Generali made it kind of difficult to submit a claim. It's like they were trying to not pay it because every time we'd give them an item, they'd ask for something else. They drag it out, which most insurance companies do but Generali made it difficult to try to pay us.

We had boarded and then, probably an hour after we'd been on the plane, we were told that something happened during refueling. So the plane couldn’t be flown and we were sitting on the plane for about three hours. We were told that we were going to be rebooked for the next flight. But that wasn't until 24 hours later. November 4th was the original day we were supposed to leave but we didn't end up leaving until the 5th. The travel insurance paid for the day we missed. We had to pay for the Airbnb that we weren't there for. It took a while for a response about the claim with Generali but once they looked at the claim, it went quickly. The customer service was great. I was glad Generali was able to help compensate for something.
Thanks so much Alexis for your review. We're so glad we could help. The claims process can take some time, as our regulatory laws require a number of reviews and required documentation. Under normal circumstance, the process can take up to 30 days, however, we were glad to be able to process yours in 22. Thanks again for being a loyal Generali customer.

I got a claim in with them right now and I haven't heard anything from them in a couple of weeks. The claim was for United Airlines, coming back from Florida on my last trip. They had a lot of trouble with their planes and they canceled flights and that was what happened to me. I had to spend the night in a hotel. So, I put a claim in for the expense. I called last week and they said, "Leave your phone number and we'll get back to you," if I didn't want to wait in line. I did that, left my phone number, but I never got a callback. But overall, I'm very happy. I'd book again.

I had an incident where there was confusion from the government on my visa requirements and they had to send me back. It wasn't my mistake and it was the airline’s mistake because they let me board the plane. I submitted a claim but Generali Global Assistance said that they were not going to pay me because this visa documentation was not their concern. But it wasn't visa documentation. It was miscommunication from the government and the airline, which was the sad part. I gave up on following up on this because it was a nightmare to deal with from every aspect of trying to get money back. I ended up losing $10,000 for no fault of my own, even after buying an insurance. The process took me three months and I went back and forth with providing details and providing more details. It was horrible.

My guest bought their insurance for their stay at my vacation rental home. I claimed damages with all the evidences. Spent lots of days in a week to contact them. 1 month later, they finally asked me my Zelle info for reimbursement. A week later I received a check in a mail instead. It has bounced back with bank fees that I had to pay. It has been 3 weeks since I saw my bank statement showed the bounced check and fees. I still have not received the money.
All they say is - the check got cleared. I've sent them multiple emails of letter from my bank stated bounced check, my bank statements. They say they didn't see my email. They repeat - "The check was cleared, have a copy," "Didn't you sign on the back??" When they finally called me back (when I was driving) Virginia blames on me that I didn't have my claim number with me, she cannot issue a new check. And Virginia didn't see my emails of my evidences. It has been 2 months since I begin to contact them. I reached out BBB yesterday. I am pretty sure they mess things up by themselves and trying to make clients giving up receiving money. Such a bad and rude people works here even supervisor.

We purchased travel insurance for protection from unpredictable events that could force a trip cancellation. This is exactly what occurred when the state of California declared that all national forests will be evacuated and closed due to fires. The closure order went into effect on the dates of our trip. California is prone to fires, especially in the area we were supposed to visit. Prior to purchasing the trip insurance through VRBO and Generali insurance, I made sure that mandatory evacuations due to natural disasters (fire) are covered.
After 45 days had gone by I had to contact the insurance company to ask why the claim was not progressing. We had provided the government closure order and more than enough information. The claim was eventually denied without any basis besides the statement that this was not a mandatory evacuation. What is the purpose of trip insurance if not for this exact scenario? This company heel drags and uses tactically vague jargon to get out of claims.
Hello Mick. We're sorry the plan you purchased did not meet your expectations. We did receive your claim and finalized it within 16 days.

Having travel insurance is important given the current climate. Everything was moving so fast, so I didn't want to be stuck without one to have my travel reimbursed. What insurance companies should do though is if you don’t use it, they should give you a percentage of it back. That would make people more inclined to get insurance. If it weren’t for the pandemic, I would not be buying travel insurance.

We traveled to Puerto Rico and when we were going back to Alaska, we had four flights to catch. Our first flight was delayed because the airlines had a staffing issue. That delay would have caused us to miss our other three flights. I called Generali looking to see if that was covered and if they would help us get another flight out of there. They didn't. We had to switch airlines in order to make our other remaining flights. We spent $1,000 because of the delay and because of the coverage. We had to buy last-minute super expensive flight tickets. Because of the delay, everything was not reimbursed. We had to then change our other flights, pay those fees, and buy a hotel overnight. I didn't have a great experience with Generali because I didn't get any assistance.
The representative was fine but the information wasn't given up front. It wasn't disclosed to me that if an airline traveled outside of a certain context that it wouldn't be covered. I was being honest with them. I was told only afterward how the flight would have been covered. I wish I had known that prior to using Generali as a fail-safe for the trip.
Hello Mary Catherine. We were sorry to hear of your travel issues. We do see a call into our Customer Service Team about your flight delay, but not an official claim. We were going on vacation in Turks and Caicos and the place required that we had travel insurance. When I did a search, Generali was one of the first ones that popped up that had all the criteria required. Turks and Caicos also recommended them in the top three companies to look at. The villa we stayed at also offered us information on the travel insurance and Generali was number one in their list of options. Overall, Generali came back as one of the top rated companies and that pushed me in that direction.
Generali was one of the better websites that allowed me to pick through different options. I had three tabs open on my browser with the different companies and I was toggling back and forth looking at who's got what. It was really difficult with some of the other companies because there were different options. Generali's website was the easiest to navigate. I just plugged it in and they immediately gave me the three different levels. I could see what I was getting, what it was going to cost me, and how they would different. That just made it really simple. I kept doing the searches on the company because you have no idea what you’re buying because you may not use it. But there were plenty of people who may have had to use it at one point in time.
I would have never considered using Generali if it wasn't for the pandemic and the requirement of the travel. But I found that maybe in the future, I would likely use travel insurance because when you go away and even though you have your own health insurance, it will only cover certain things. If you’re in a foreign country that has limited healthcare options, they may have to send you elsewhere. I read some horror stories of people who had something happen. Somebody had to have dental surgery and there was nobody there on the island to do it, so they had to send them somewhere else. That was covered. If it hadn't been covered, they would have had to pay upwards of $200,000 just to get transported. When I read the binder that came with what I got from Generali, I was surprised at how much stuff they covered. There were things you wouldn't even think of.
Thanks Anthony = that is great to hear! Thanks for your business. Enjoy your trip!

I'm not pleased with Generali Global Assistance. The trip was reserved in October. In April, I started to try to cancel the trip. It took quite a bit of doing, but it was because my trip was to Greece. Greece was not scheduled to open until May 14th. I was scheduled to arrive in Greece on May 13th. Since then, the COVID restrictions have gone up, down, backwards, and forwards. There was no way that that trip that I had reserved in October was able to take place. Generali denied my request for a partial refund. The reason for cancelling the trip was not covered by my insurance policy. I had, with much trial and tribulation, got the travel agency to agree to refund. They had given me a choice either to have a travel credit for the future and then the third choice was a partial refund.
The whole trip cost at least a little under $2,000. The travel agency was going to give me a $1,500 refund. So, I was asking Generali for $495. But the reason for canceling the trip was not covered. That’s a little unreasonable after this 15-month stretch that we've had. We're in a special situation with this COVID garbage. I could have claimed I'm not able to walk, and maybe that would have done it. Then I would have had to get a doctor's. But it should be a little bit clearer. I wouldn't have gone through the claim process if I had any idea that that would not be covered.
We're sorry the coverage didn't meet your expectation. Unfortunately, like other insurance plans you may have, travel insurance cannot cover every event that might cause a traveler to cancel their trip, including government restrictions. While frustrating, we want our customers to understand their coverages and what is not included, which is one reason we provide a 10-day free look so that you have extra time to review your coverages.
We also want to assist you in using your policy at a later date when travel resumes. To see if you qualify, please visit generalitravel.com/voucher. for more details.

They notified me during that conversation that their system was down and they were not able to make the credit. They would make it as soon as it was backup.
Fast forward another week, I made another call. It was still not credited back to my credit card. They told me that they have no time frame of when it might be fixed or if it will be fixed. So I am just not going to get a refund??? They told me I could contact my credit card company. Why should I even have to do that? This is deplorable. I've used Generali before. My mother was sick in the hospital and I had to postpone a trip. They gave me my money back. I was shocked because I've never used it before. You have to fill forms out and get doctors to fill forms. You have to show evidence and I get it because there are a lot of phonies out there. Recently, I was trying to get insurance that has primary medical. I went online, entered names, birth dates, dates of trip, where you're going, and how much you're spending on each person that you want to insure. It generates a number and you're either happy or not happy.
It's easy to fill out the forms. There are three or four choices of what you want. There's a list of a few products that you can choose from. Make sure you know what you're buying. You can't complain if you don't buy the correct product. I've done it enough times that I know what to look for and I'm fine with it. But there are some people that just take the cheapest product and for $20 or $30 more, you can get a better product. When you cut a trip short, they cover that if something were to happen and you have to go home. You can use it as a secondary insurance but if you can get it at a reasonable cost for primary, if something happens, you get reimbursed much quicker. The rates are really good too.

The second time we used Generali, my wife had a medical situation arise that appeared very serious and had to have an operation, and everything turned out fine. We provided them with the proof of the illness and they paid off on the insurance claim. It was very hassle-free so we've continued to use them because when we needed the insurance, it worked.
This year, we had to cancel. A lot of people did cancel some trips. We had bought the insurance and the refund process was a little bit confusing. I didn't know if we bought the insurance through the VRBO site. We called Generali and they said, "You got to call VRBO. It's got to be refunded through them." It was a little bit of a hassle. I called Generali and they said, "You got to get a refund through VRBO." We'd paid for one insurance and we needed a refund because we'd canceled that trip within the canceled time on VRBO. So, we got our money on the house back from VRBO, but we needed to get the insurance back 'cause we didn't use it. We got emails saying they'd refund our premium. But it turned out, somehow, the original debit as well as the credit, disappeared. We never did see a credit but we never did get charged for it. It was within a week or so after booking the house that we cancelled. Maybe they intercepted the original charge.

I found Generali on the internet when I did a search. I compared them to other insurance providers. I've had travel insurance before, and I thought their coverage and what they presented were the best for the travel that we were going to do. So then, I purchased the travel insurance from them. The whole process online was very simple. Then when COVID hit and I went back to them asking for a refund based on the fact that the insurance wasn’t necessary, they reacted positively and gave me a refund. I purchased travel insurance from them again for a trip that we're planning on taking in June because of their service and the way they handled everything.
When I was seeking my refund, I did speak with live people and they were very accommodating. They told me exactly what I needed to do in order to get the refund. Then when I had a little bit of delay in getting it, I spoke to them again and they pushed me in the right direction. It finally worked out. Right now, it looks like they're doing everything right. Generali seems to have a better selection of options than some other travel companies.

We do a fair amount of international travel. If we do it with a tour company, they usually offer travel insurance, but it's at a high premium. So we've gone on internet and looked at different insurance companies. When you're looking for a price and you pull up a list, there are 20 insurance companies that will come up. Each one of them is gonna have their price and they range anywhere from $100 to $500 for a particular trip, so then you have to look at the small print. When we first did this a few years ago, we looked closely at Generali, and then from that point on, we decided to zero in on this company. We don't understand all the small print and the difference between one company and the other anyway. Generali was was not necessarily the cheapest, but it wasn't the most expensive either. It's the one we felt the most comfortable with.
We've used them five times and purchasing it is straightforward. It's very simple for us because we're used to it, so we know that we have to have the invoice for the trip and flight plans. If it's through a travel company, we need to have that invoice number and a copy of the invoice. This last year we've had a couple of trips that got cancelled because of the COVID. We simply called them up, referenced the trip that we were referring to and then got back to them and let them know that it was rescheduled for 2021. In two cases, there was a premium increase and I argued with this. “How can you give me an increase? We didn't do anything.” However, I understand inflation and how that works. There's also more of a risk going forward because of the uncertainty of international travel.
Thank you for your review and feedback! We understand that while your trip may not have changed, you may be buying insurance coverage further in advance, which could result in a different insurance premium. We wish you safe travels!

But I had to have that special travel one to go into Turks and Caicos. I had six people going. One of my son's significant other did all six of us online. She was done in one minute. The policy got me into the country and that's what I needed for my vacation for two weeks. It was a $50 policy.
Generali should get hooked up to all these Caribbean islands that are requiring this extra insurance. They need to get with their government and say, “Will you promote our insurance?" Because whenever Americans travel outside the country, if they were an experienced person or if they network, they need to know what they need to go to that country so they go to that travel website. But America has it too. They say, “Oh, don't travel to Russia,” or “Don't travel to China,” or whatever on ours, but it doesn't tell you you have to have insurance going in there. You need to go to the marketing person for your company at the department and just say, “Hey, I was just talking to this lady from Turks and Caicos. This is how she found our company, was from their government," which requires the insurance for the two weeks that I'm there.

My Airbnb host recommended that I purchase Generali Global due to their strict cancellation policies. He also said his family used it all the time, and that he had good experiences. So, if I was looking for travel insurance, I should just use Generali Global. I got the insurance, but I'm going on a trip. So, I won't have to do a claim. One of the reasons why I bought it was because my host was saying that in the past if you get the highest tier, you can cancel for any reason. I did purchase it but then I got an email that said, “Thanks for purchasing, by the way, we're not doing the cancel for any reason thing right now,” which I assumed was due to COVID. But I didn't see that before I purchased it. At that point I was just like, “Okay.” I purchased the highest tier, but that part of the policy isn't available right now. I didn't see that in advance. It's fine but that's one thing that I wish was still going on.
I purchased the policy online, but I tried to call to ask about that clause and I couldn't get through to anyone. It was like a weird phone circle. I couldn't speak to a real person. I tried pretty hard to get to a person for about 30 minutes, but it was impossible to get to an agent on the phone. They just kept routing me through different call trees. That's not covered but you can file a claim if you want to." He said that he would send me the link and I need to go online. He also told me I would need documentation to submit for the claim. But that's not our unit. That's someone else's account as far as the power. They're not gonna give me information on that account number. So instead of vacationing, I was trying to print off everything and snap everything I saw concerning the Gulf Shores and that unit. Hopefully, all my stuff that I've been saving is going to help with the claim.

AFTER a claims format was finally provided and submitted I was told the policy had been canceled and my fees had been refunded. Those were lies. I complained that I had not canceled the insurance and I had received no information from Generali to that effect and I certainly had NOT received a refund. Their response was to cancel the policy on THAT very day and refund my fees THAT day which I confirmed with my credit card company.
So 3 months after my loss and after my claim was posted they canceled my policy resulting in the loss of many hundreds of dollars, possibly thousands of dollars. It would be great for every insurance company to cancel a policy AFTER a valid claim has been submitted. This is the most unscrupulous company that I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. LITERALLY!!!
We’re sorry to hear of your frustration. We strive to make our claims process easy with links to our online claims website within the Generalitravelinsurance.com website where you made your purchase.
In looking into your comments, your policy was cancelled and fully refunded to you. Upon notification of your need to file a claim, we determined that the policy appeared to have been cancelled and refunded in error. While we are sorry for the error, we notified you that we could recharge the premium to reinstate the policy, however, based on the facts of loss, there would likely be no coverage.

My mom told me about Generali. I bought a different one before and I wasn't happy with the previous travel insurance. The price was about the same, but my experience with submitting a claim with the previous insurance that I bought was very complicated. They wanted a million different documents, which were totally irrelevant. Their website was down as well. When I tried to submit the documents, they would not accept the file attachments. I didn't wanna use them anymore, and since my mom said this one is the one that she uses, I decided to try it.
All insurances are very easy to purchase, but when it comes to submitting a claim, it can be very difficult. With Generali, it works much more smoothly. I was able to get the claim done online within an hour. The month of August has been bad. I had some bleeding in between my period. I went to the doctor and they sent me to get an ultrasound and they found a polyp in my uterus. The ultrasound was $200. In Canada, none of the clinics accept insurance, so I had to pay for everything up front. That's a lot more difficult than just giving them a policy number, but this is the way it is here. If Generali reimburses me for my medical expenses, then I would recommend them.

I cannot recommend this company. We paid for travel insurance because we were urged by the home rental company to obtain it in case our plans changed due to COVID. The conference we were supposed to attend in November was cancelled. I submitted the insurance claim because we had already paid our deposit for the home and our claim was denied. Not only did I lose the money paid for the deposit at the home I also wasted money on travel insurance.
We’re sorry the plan didn’t meet your expectation. As stated in your policy documents, our plans only offer reimbursement if you need to cancel your trip for one of the 20 covered reasons. Generali Global Assistance plans do not offer coverage if you cancel your trip due a cancelled conference, unless you added Trip Cancellation for Any Reason coverage to your plan.

At this point, I am considering this insurance either a scam or just a company with HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and bad employees! I bought the insurance on 6/23 with my beach house being rented 8/1-8/8. On 7/31 I received an email (from the real estate company I rented the house from) that stated that At 9PM this evening the Town of Holden Beach issued a mandatory evacuation for all rental guests effective Saturday August 1, 2020.
"We are sorry we will not be able to check you in tomorrow for your upcoming vacation." I provided this exact information in my claim (submitted on 8/1) along with all required paperwork (paid contact, etc). I assumed that the company would verify the hurricane evacuation order. Instead, they claimed my covid-19 claim was denied. I NEVER stated ANYTHING related to covid-19. We will see if any of my emails and additional uploads are reviewed. I will update my review if they ever respond. There is NO number to call to talk to customer service about claims, you need to have a claim reps number (which they didn't provide).

Almost impossible to ever reach anyone… Phone or email. It took days and even weeks. Very frustrating. Phone tree… "Press this number, press that number, that response not valid, we’re busy call back later". However… Trying to reach someone was the worst customer experience I have ever had.

We’re taking a trip during the pandemic and now is a good a time as ever to get trip insurance. I googled trip insurance and Generali was a preeminent search result. They were the most straightforward online about what they covered in terms of their different types of plans and pricing. I also liked the ease and ability to get a quote and the detail provided.
The user interface of their website was intuitive in terms of getting a quote but it could be designed better. If you need to submit a claim, that was a little bit more cumbersome. It took a while because the website where you sign up for the trip insurance and the website where you submit a claim are different websites. They seemed to be related companies but sort of separate entities so there was some going back and forth between two different domains.
The user interface felt a bit clunkier and also less assertive for something as sort of complex trip insurance. When a trip goes wrong, usually there are a lot of details that need to be provided. It's a generally complicated thing that the website while clunky was also sort of almost too simple at the same time. In fact, it was difficult to provide the necessary detail to probably explain in-depth everything that was going on when filing the claim. Also, the document upload process was pretty difficult to use. It was unclear which documents were necessary to upload for which specific type of claim. There is no detail provided there either.
We submitted the claim about a month ago and we haven't heard anything back. Everything's backlogged due to the coronavirus but the pandemic’s been going on for several months now and hopefully people who have wanted to cancel their trips have done so at this point. When something goes wrong, usually it's in the thousands of dollars. We need expediency when it comes to getting reimbursed for unexpected trip expenses. We’ve been carrying a couple thousand dollars in charges because we haven't heard back on our claim yet from the beginning of August. That's starting to occur interest which is never fun.
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry the websites weren’t to your liking. We do have a separate claims interface, which we’re working to improve upon.

If you're gonna go skiing, they have a different package than if you're just gonna go hang out on the beach. Even though I've never had to exercise the insurance when I was traveling previously, it was good to know that they would pay for a hotel room if you got canceled on your flight or something like that happened. I bought travel insurance for my trip to Maui back in March. I was laid off on June 17th from my job due to the down turn in the oil and gas industry which has nothing to do with Covid. I have been going through the claim process now for 49 days and still don't know my claim status. Originally my claim was denied because they said I lost my job due to Covid even though the original paperwork I submitted stated very clearly why I was laid off. Then I could not get any one to respond to emails or phone calls so I put in a complaint with the BBB which immediately got a response. I was informed by the BBB that I needed to have a letter from my employer regarding my lay-off, keep in mind that I NEVER received any communication from Generali about this requirement only from the BBB.
So I sent in the letter and waited another 2 weeks before reviewing an email from Generali asking me to sign a form stating I would not use any airline credits from my trip. I signed this form and sent it back a week ago and now I’m playing the waiting game again, I haven’t heard a single word back from Generali regarding the status of my claim. I find it hard to believe how quickly they are able to respond to these reviews yet they aren’t able to respond to their customers regarding their claims. Then after that, I needed to make a change because my travel plans changed because of COVID. I had to postpone my reservation then my booking was cancelled and the trip was delayed by the airlines, so they suggested that it was not covered. My intention was to travel and have my trip insured so I'm postponing my trip to September. But I had to call several times to get through to get the policy change for the new dates, which they did it, but up till today, I haven't received the new coverage policy. I tried calling after that several times and I was unable to get to them and then I gave up. I even requested that policy online too 30 days ago and nothing.
Generali's customer service needs to improve. When people try to reach them, they should answer the phone. If they cannot answer the phone now, right then and there, I should be able to leave a message instead of phone getting disconnected and then somebody should be calling me back when they can. Now, I'm having second thoughts of not using them the next time because I haven't even known that damage has been done, but I paid $670 in premium, and I don't even have my policy with me. Other than that, the person was nice and willing to help. She said that they could transfer my coverage to the new dates, which was some misleading information because even if the airline cancels the ticket, there is a delay that is not caused by me. When I got my thing done, she paid my policy and promised me that I would get new coverage, although no email yet.

It was always handled by my agent at the travel agency and this last time, I had to do things totally online because there was absolutely nobody to talk to. I needed to change the dates of my insurance. I don't think it matters, but we’re gonna leave a little bit sooner than we were before.
I sat on hold for 45 minutes and gave up. I then emailed them and got no response, so I blew it off. It’s frustrating, but I understand they have situations to deal with like everybody else. Right now, everybody's having trouble getting in touch with anybody that they need, so I'm not faulting them for that too much. With everything being canceled, right and left, I'm sure they get a lot of calls coming in as well.
I also understand that people don't have a lot of people in the office now, but I don’t see why people can't work from home as long as they’re doing things over the internet. I don’t know why they don't have any people and why it takes so long to get somebody on the phone, but I’d still recommend Generali. They have treated me fine. Everyone assures you that unless you buy the cancel-for-any policy, which costs almost as much as your trip, it's not gonna cover pandemic. They don't cover COVID and so far, I don't think they have refunded anybody. When we signed for a trip to Alaska, the bear part of the trip didn't go because of the weather. The flight service should have refunded us but they didn't. They told us to go to our trip cancellation. I did and had no problem collecting.

We purchased Generali Travel insurance for a VRBO stay in March. When we heard we couldn't legal travel with COVID I cancelled my trip immediately after we found out. I didn't get our money back from the owner since it was just past the 30 days before cancel policy of our rental. I made an online claim with Generali online April 8th after not being able to get through on the phone. I'm still waiting and still no response nothing. It's been almost 2 months. What's most frustrating is that I can't ever get through on the phone or email. They'll put you on hold for 30 minutes then hang up on you. VRBO recommended this travel insurance and they won't do anything to refund us either! It looks like we're out $2550! Isn't this what you buy insurance for? Unforeseen circumstances!

Now they say they will give me a voucher to use toward another trip in the future. DO YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD USE YOUR COMPANY AGAIN! GET REAL. This was not posted publicly by them for you to see. Original review: I purchased CSA/Generali Travel insurance last Dec 2019 for a trip to Italy May 23,2020. My trip was cancelled on 04/26/2020. I have submitted a claim to them and did get confirmation that it was submitted. I have tried to call at least 5 times only to be directly put on hold for a little over 25 min and then you get disconnected. I have emailed them three times for the status of my claim, and nothing. According to the insurance commissioner they only have 30 days to process a claim. I can't even get them to respond. DO NOT USE THEM!

On March 9 I took out a travel policy and on March 16 I inquired about canceling the policy. Their policy is a 10 “free look” period - meaning I had till March 19 to cancel. I have sent numerous emails asking for a response. I have also spent hours on hold only to be told to call back later. Today I was told there would be a 25 minute wait time. At about 26 minutes on hold, I was to call back later. What does it take to get my refund.

I completely understand your company has high call volumes and these are crazy times but it's been two months and I've heard nothing. I filed my claim online and it just says "submitted" when I check on it. I've tried calling, only to be left on hold for up to two hours and then it hangs up on me. I've tried chatting but no one responds. All I'm asking is to have someone tell me they're working on it and an expected date of my refund.

My wife and I purchased Generali Travel Insurance before our month long trip to Paris France this March 2020. It was easy to purchase and seemed like a good purchase at the time. However, once we arrived in Paris, everything began to shut down due to COVID-19. We stayed two weeks, hoping to make the best of it, but then it was intolerable being confined to our room the whole time. I filed for a full payment on 3/30/2020 (claim **) and here it is 5/16/2020 and not even a peep out of Generali. Not that I expect instant payment, but two inquiries about my claim have gone unanswered - no response at all. What good is insurance if you can't settle a claim in a timely manner? Or, at least get an answer to a simple, reasonable, question?

Stay away from this company. I took out insurance at the end of February for a trip in March. My daughter has an ultra-rare immune disorder. Because of the Covid situation, the doctors told us that we should not take our trip. After the renters only refunded us 50%, I filed a claim. The company's website wouldn't allow me to file the claim because of tech issues. Then after hours of being on hold, someone finally got back to me. I filed the claim. Didn't hear from them for 2 months. Then I got an email with a bunch of computer error language.
I tried to call to get an update on my claim. After waiting for hours on the phone, I wrote an angry email to people high up in the company. I finally got a phone call back. I was told that the claim is denied. Hours wasted. Money lost. They are using Covid as an excuse to not pay out the claims. STAY AWAY from CSA Travel Protection/Generali Global Assistance. It is a scam. The policy is written so they can deny anyone for any reason. And they don't even have the decency to have a customer service system that doesn't require you to wait on hold for 2 hours before they automatically hang up on you.
We are sorry to hear of the circumstances surrounding your claim. Similar to other types of insurance you may have, travel insurance doesn't cover everything. Coverages are listed in your Description of Coverage/Insurance Policy and our plans only reimburse for non-refundable, pre-paid trip costs if you need to cancel your trip for a covered reason. Updated 07/29/2020: I had posted a negative review of Generali and tried to amend it. Since that didn't seem to work, I wanted to write an update of it and reflect it in a positive light. I wasn't receiving any sort of response and wanted to get some answer back to an initial denial on my claim of travel cancellation insurance. Things were hectic and frustrating but ultimately I was able to reach my agent (who was understandably backed up lots of other claims) and she worked diligently to fix the outcome of the decision to an accepted claim. I am eternally grateful for that. Out of respect to the agent, I will not name her for privacy concerns, but I am forever in her debt. Thank you Generali and I apologize for the earlier reviews. I was in the wrong.
Updated on 07/22/2020: I filed a claim for trip cancellation under Job Loss (which is a covered condition) and provided all necessary documentation proving such. After 10 days, I was denied on my claim and the trip has already now passed, so I couldn't have went even if I tried. This insurance is a scam, plain and simple anyway you cut it. They pulled a stunt early into the pandemic and rewrote the policy that COVID-19 related problems were not covered and that should've been my warning sign for what kind of trickery I would be encountering down the road. I would be absolutely ashamed of myself, being a $25b company that denies claims during a pandemic, especially just and fair claims.
Original Review: I purchased travel cancellation insurance back in February for a vacation in July through Generali via HomeAway, well before the COVID-19 pandemic became recognized. I've never received a copy of my policy from Generali, so I decided to contact them over it, as well as disturbing reports I've been reading about their recent updates to their policy standards over COVID-19: allegedly canceling policies at will with new language and not honoring their initial agreements.
I called to discuss the rumors of this, which I hope aren't true, but over 4 phone calls where I was on hold for exactly 28:03 minutes each time before an automated voice tells me to call back, as well as 4 failed webchat assist sessions to which no one answered and finally an unresponsive email; I've gotten ZERO information or help on this matter. Which to be honest, is only strengthening my suspicions and fears. With no end in sight, states still issuing travel bans and restrictions still tightly in place nationwide, its beginning to look like I may have to cancel this trip out of the safety of my family.
To make matters worse, the rental property has a no refund policy to which they and HomeAway suggested previous to all of this, to book with to be able to cancel in the event of an emergency. I'd say a global pandemic constitutes as an emergency but what do I know, right? It would be nice to be able to speak to someone, anyone really, but it's not looking well. As this escalates, I suppose I will be in contact with the State Attorney General's office unfortunately.

I talked to one Generali rep who was really nice when I was first getting into insurance. He told me about his company and how they work when I have a problem from overseas. Currently, I get Generali when I'm going out of the country since at my age, having some major things when out of the country would be devastating if I didn't have some kind of insurance. Even though I'm on Medicare and I have good supplemental insurance, that doesn't help when I'm out of the country.
While my experience with Generali Global Assistance was fine, they didn't give me a rebate. They gave me credit instead. I went back through TripInsurance whom I contracted to get Generali for me. They made a request to Generali who then said that I needed to come to their website to get a voucher for my money and that would expire by December 31st. It would be a lot easier if they had not put a six-month time limit on it. It’s all a big game that they play. They keep my money in the bank and they make interest on it. That’s what disturbs me. I should get my money back and get interest off of it for myself instead of Generali getting interest off of it. Still, their price is right and their limits are great for that price.

After traveling from the US to Cambodia (More than a day travel time). I was robbed by two motorbikes driving on both sides of my tuk tuk (w/ helmets) and they took 2 bags. They were long gone within seconds and I knew immediately I would not be getting my belongings back. I had 12 other bags in a van behind me that I had to worry about and I was exhausted. Apparently, Generali is the one insurance company that has begun a policy that you must go IMMEDIATELY to the police station (filing a police report is a 6 hour minimum ordeal in Cambodia and usually requires an interpreter no less).
I went first thing within 24 hours the next morning which is every other company's (including Generali’s subsidiaries) requirement. To change wording from within 24 hours to a broad “immediately” is pretty malicious and deceptive to customers. Even polices outside the US from Generali explicitly state that you must go to the police station within 24 hours. It’s been 5 months of fighting this and I’m exhausted. Generali is fighting me that I did not go immediately, but as their policy also states below that I also had a responsibility to protect my other bags. Leaving 12 bags in a van while I try to file a police report is a no brainer if you have been to Cambodia. So I took them to my friend's gated home and filed first thing the next morning.
Generali says I should have gone “immediately” and that I was responsible for keeping the bags safe while filing the police report at the same time. Again, all of this after traveling with 14 bags across the world for the past day and a half they expected me to go “immediately”. Generali was both policy supplier and the underwriter which explains the very good coordination of denial of benefits. THANKS GENERALI.

I Googled travel insurance and Generali came second on the top 10 list. And based on the reviews that I read about them, I figured I would go with them. I’ve also used Generali four times in the past but I only use them when I took cruises. So, rather than get the cruise line’s insurance, because I know that’s crap, I’d go with an outside carrier. All my friends that would cruise would use Generali as well. Their website is user-friendly and very easy to use. Use them and take a chance.
Other than that, one advantage of Generali is that they have no out-of-pocket expense. If you use them for medical and you call them, they're supposed to pay whatever medical facility you’re using. Compared to that, most other insurance companies, even the cruise line insurance, want you to pay out of your pocket then they reimburse you. And that reimbursement might not come until six months down the road. I know people that have gotten sick and got the cruise line insurance. They paid and the cruise line insurance gave them problems getting their money back.

They put our insurance claim for review then came back and said it was closed due to a voucher we received from iTrips. We spoke with iTrips prior to filing our claim and they said to contact the insurance company for a refund.
Fast forward did all that all for them to say the pandemic was going on since January and we were fully aware and we still booked anyway. How were we to know, how was anyone to know that this was going to cause such a disruption in everyone's lifestyle. So we called iTrips back and received a rude response. I will be leaving a review on them here after this one. Based on this experience, do not book through iTrips...better yet do not insure your travel plans through Generali Global Assist. When it was pointed out on pg 19 regarding should a situation arise such as this and specifically points out about quarantine, the agent claimed he did not know what we were reading and was of no further assistance. Clearly stating that the claim is closed and that is that. My advice do not insure through them. We are out almost $1000.
Original review: Approximately 3 wks ago (3/2/2020), I have made a home rental reservation for April (4/12-15/2020) up near Salem, Ma. My best friend and I booked this rental for a spring break trip as well as to tour a couple of colleges. Well, in light of the current situation with COVID-19, colleges and universities have canceled tours and classes are online for their current students. I have spent hours on the phone multiple times and even left my number (to hold my place in line) for a call back. I have emailed the company as well. All to no avail.
I understand and can appreciate the high volume of calls and longer wait times but a couple of hours just waiting for someone to come on the line is just ridiculous. What is the point of travel insurance if you can't even get through to properly be refunded?!? We've already canceled with the home owner but their response is to offer a voucher. Unacceptable when we don't have a time to use it. It's under 30 days of the initial booking. I expect a full refund. But nevertheless, I would still expect the full refund as this is an unforseen event. But that is looking bleak as time passes and no call back or can't even reach someone whether by phone or email. My best friend booked the reservation under her name but the cost of everything has been split between us for both of our families. I can understand if they rather discuss this with her as it is in her name but she cannot get through either.

Please, please, please do your research on CSA Travel Insurance before wasting your money. I wish I had. I booked a vacation through Homeaway in October, 2019 and purchased the travel insurance. Due to Coronovirus scare I decided to call them to verify everything was in order for our upcoming trip in 3 weeks. I first contacted them and went through the automated system. It verified that there was a policy issued but that it is "not in an issued status"??? I basically have then on auto re-dial 8 hours a day and can't get hold of anyone. You are only given the option to leave your phone number for a call back that never happens.
I have left my phone number numerous times, sent multiple emails and also faxed them documentation that the insurance was paid for but NOTHING! Everything I am reading says this is the norm for CSA. You can't get hold of them, they don't answer the phone EVER, not on a sun shiny day, NEVER! And if you are the one lucky people who do get hold of someone they won't cover anything anyway. You basically have to schedule your medical emergency, evacuation, quarantine, etc around the terms of your policy. Waste of time and money. Better off not having purchased this policy and taken my chances.
We apologize for not meeting your expectations. We are experiencing unprecedented claims and call volumes as a result of the current events surrounding the Coronavirus.
Please note that only our claims department can issue claims determinations, so this is not an official determination of your claim and only meant to help provide you with some general information. Your Vrbo/HomeAway policy will not provide Trip Cancellation coverage for this event. As noted in the policy language, your plan only can reimburse you for trip cancellation for named events. The Policy/Description of Coverage outlines the complete terms and conditions of the plan purchased and is provided both before and after purchase so that you can be familiar with your coverages.
We understand many of Vrbo/HomeAway hosts are giving credits and/or refunds to travelers given these circumstances. We encourage you to visit https://help.vrbo.com/articles/What-can-I-do-if-my-reservation-is-affected-by-the-Coronavirus for more details.
We also want to assist you in using your policy at a later date when travel resumes. To see if you qualify, please visit generalitravel.com/voucher.

I searched in a consolidation website for travel insurance which offered a comparison of different travel policies. I input my parameters and Generali offered the value that we were looking for and covered what we needed for our trip. I’ve used Generali a couple of times on some trips that we’ve taken and that worked out fine.

My experience with online ordering of travel insurance for a European trip in August was fairly straightforward. However I would like to have had access to the entire policy before signing up. Certainly the simplified charts of comparison make it easier to understand the options. And the cost seemed reasonable. I would sign up for this again in the future.
Hello Chris. You can access the entire policy language both before and after booking at https://www.generalitravelinsurance.com/retrieve-policy.html. We provide links on the /view-our-plans and /choose-plan pages. If you have any questions post booking, you do have a 10-day free look period.

We've used GGA travel insurance in the past and will continue to do so because the website is easy to navigate and they are a reputable company. In 2017, we needed to cancel a trip due to the death of a parent. GGA gave us the info we needed to file the appropriate forms/documents and our refund came in a reasonable timeframe.
Thanks for your kind review. We appreciate your business.

I do not usually purchase travel insurance but I'm taking my girls on a trip of a lifetime. We're spending a lot of money so I decided to get one. I looked at the reviews and ratings and between Generali and another one, I decided to go with Generali because they were based in the United States. I just signed up for the paperwork. I’m a little disappointed, though. I figured out yesterday that I’m not covered by the Corona Virus outbreak if my event is canceled. The event is not ‘til August so I’m gonna wait and see what happens.

Generali had a good price. I used them for the Japan cruise that I booked. I am not happy with them, though. Viking Cruise Line cancelled our cruise ‘cause it was to Japan. I asked Generali to refund the money that I paid for the insurance, and that’s where I’m getting a hard time. They’re asking for this and that and they know the cruise was cancelled. I sent them the letter saying that it was. They have not returned my $800 and some that I paid for the insurance. It wasn’t my fault that I couldn’t go on the cruise. Generali said they couldn’t refund the money until Viking refunded all of my money, which I’m still waiting for. I don’t know what’s gonna happen after that, if I’ll send them a copy of the check or something. I’m supposed to get the money from Viking by the middle of March. That’ll be some time probably next week.
We're sorry for the frustration. We have reached out to a Supervisor to help and understand they have been in contact with you.

The plan was easy to purchase online, but the terminology was often not the usual terms used. For instance, "Emergency Assistance". Does this mean "Medical Evacuation"? If yes, why not use this standard term as I saw on other policies from other companies.
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize if the terminology used was confusing. Emergency Assistance & Transportation is both covered medical emergencies that occur on your trip and medically necessary transportation to the nearest or most appropriate facility (including evacuation).
