I've experienced some trouble with my travels and with all the uncertainty in the world today, it seems like a good idea to have my travel protected. I first found Generali through a Google search when I was first looking into travel insurance. I compared a couple of companies, and the price points, and the overall coverage, and the ease of getting a quote with Generali LED me to choosing them. The breakdown detailing what each plan does and doesn't provide is awesome to helping select the right plan that I need. Generali is affordable and a really good backup emergency protection to have for someone's travel.
Your feedback is valued by our team. Thank you, Audra, for your review.

I knew about Generali from a long time ago, but I've never had a need to file a claim. When I was taking a trip to Morocco, I went online and googled it. I could figure out their website and if I could, so will 99% of people. I got the insurance quickly and I thought the rates were reasonable. They weren't overcharging. I didn't get to utilize the insurance, but generally, I would tell people to go with Generali if they feel that it fits all their needs.

I heard about Generali from a friend. I was scheduled to go on a trip to a country that I had never been before, so I did not know what the circumstances there would be if anything happened to me. I decided to give Generali a go and signup was very easy. I got three options to select from, and I selected what felt best for me for that trip. I'm very satisfied. Generali is very user-friendly and at a very good cost. It's not super expensive where one has to think twice about it. It makes sense.

I was taking a trip overseas and Generali Global was the company that somebody in my group had already purchased from, so I was familiar with it through them. It was highly recommended because of where we were at and all the money that was spent on the travel. When I signed up, it was easy. Everything was online. Overall, it was nice to have a bit of peace of mind in case there were some unexpected interruptions in our travel plans. For the amount it was and what would be covered if something happened, it was worthwhile.

It was hard to understand all the conditions for that. I ended up not using your website. I was reading the contract that my friend who had already gotten your insurance in which I could read the details from the contract.

It was the first time I was traveling abroad and was going on a ski trip, and I wanted travel insurance. Specifically, I wanted to have medical coverage when I was out of the country because the medical coverage that I have here in the United States doesn't extend beyond the borders. Signing up with Generali was very easy. There were three choices, and I just thought about how much money I might need if I wound up in a hospital there. I didn't want to spend too much. So, I tried to evaluate what I might need, and I guessed. I did need it once. I had an injury when I was skiing in Chile. I had to go for emergency medical care. It wasn't a serious injury, but I was able to use my policy to get reimbursed. But it's difficult to know how much you really need when it comes to medical insurance if something happens. We've used the service multiple times now, and the one time I did have to use it, Generali delivered as promised.
We love our loyal travelers, Paul, and hope to retain you as a customer for many years to come!

I was going on a trip. I did a quick Google search, looked at three companies and Generali seemed the best fit. I picked the middle policy because it had a little more coverage for flight disturbances and also medical coverage, in case we had it. You'll never know what's gonna happen while you're abroad and I know from life that if something were to happen, I'd want to make sure that I'd be able to go to hospital without any concerns about money. I'd recommend Generali.

Generali has been great. I never had to use them, but I felt good knowing that I had them if I needed to. When I called to verify they were legit company, the people that answered the phone were very friendly and confident. They were very knowledgeable on the product as well. I liked what they offered me. I checked out other plans but didn't get as much coverage. Or if I did, it would be more expensive than Generali.
I cruise every month, and Generali gives me a lot of coverage for a reasonable price. It also starts immediately on the day of my trip. I don't have to wait 30 days and I can pay as I go. I'm referring Generali to a lot of people. You get a lot of coverage for a reasonable price. Their customer service is very helpful. They're not just trying to sell you a policy. They just share the information and answer the questions you have. They're a great company. I'm probably gonna buy another policy from them in a few weeks.

Claim denied due to an unreasonable timeframe clause — do not recommend. I strongly advise caution when considering this insurance provider. We purchased a policy (Policy Number: **) for an upcoming Airbnb reservation months in advance. The property owner subsequently sold the house, forcing Airbnb to cancel our reservation and refund our booking.
When we contacted the insurance company regarding our policy (Claim Number: **), they refused to assist us. They stated that the 10-day window from the time of purchase had passed. Since the host canceled the trip months after we bought the policy, it was impossible to meet this requirement. We purchased this insurance specifically to protect against unforeseen emergencies and third-party cancellations. It is highly disappointing that the company uses this technicality to avoid honoring their contract. Based on the difficulty of getting them to stand by their coverage, I cannot recommend their services to other travelers.

Generali offered a wide range of travel coverage and was easy to navigate. I purchased travel insurance this time, for the first time, because I've heard through about another friend who traveled and had a medical incident that her regular insurance would not have covered. So, I felt like that was probably a really good idea to invest in travel insurance. Using Generali's website was easy. I was able to do it on my phone and I'm a senior citizen. So, generally, we have harder time navigating because of vision challenges. But I had no problem with it. I did it all by myself.

Generali has a good policy. The policy is pretty clear about what they cover. The coverage is higher than that of other companies, and it’s for 250,000 for medical. The price is about right. So, I locked in. I wanted to get that travel insurance in case I had to cancel the trip, which I ended up having to cancel the trip. Generali's prices were good. They were very helpful, too. Updated on 07/03/2026: We purchase travel insurance from Generali Global Assistance for a trip to Mexico. In January 2025 my husband was hospitalized in ICU at Hospiten Cancun. While they were great at reimbursing my out of pocket expenses and getting us out of the country, they have yet to pay the hospital for the expenses incurred during his 7 day stay.
I have sent in the invoices numerous times along with the claims representative from the hospital. I only get an automated message even though I have requested someone call me to help me navigate this process so that we can get the claim paid. This has been going on now for a year and a half. It is really unacceptable customer service. I feel like we are in a never ending loop… the insurance company asking for revised invoices from the hospital, and the hospital claims saying they are the point person for the hospital and that they should go through them. I am beyond frustrated and don’t know where to turn to get the answers that I need. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS INSURANCE.
Original Review: My husband got sick while in Mexico on January 27, 2025. While the company was great getting my husband out of Mexico and helping us find a hospital in Oregon and also reimbursed us for what we had to put out in Mexico they have been dragging their feet on paying the hospital bill from Mexico. It has been over a year and nothing has been paid to the hospital. Everything has been submitted by myself and by the Mexican Hospital. I had to submit things multiple times in multiple ways also.
When I call they do not respond anymore. When I email, they do not respond anymore. I am getting many phone calls and emails from the claims department for the Mexican hospital. I don’t have anything to say to them because as I mentioned, Generali Global Assistance will not communicate with me. I do have one person that I can talk with and all they can tell me is that they will pass on that I called. He even told me that there is no one that I can talk with in the Investigative Department that has my claim.
I am getting ready to contact an attorney that can help with paying whatever my policy covers. I am so disappointed and frustrated that this is taking so long and that there is not one individual that has the time to call me and explain what is going on. After reading the complaints on the Better Business Bureau website, I believe that this is their MO, they have extremely poor communication not responding to people that have purchased their insurance in good faith. In all honesty I cannot recommend this insurance to anyone, which is a shame.

Apparently, all health conditions are considered pre-existing even when they have not been identified by medical personnel prior to the purchase of the insurance policy. Our friend and co-traveler was informed of a medical condition after the purchase of travel protection. Medical documentation was provided as evidence of that, but Generali ruled it pre-existing. According to that ruling, every condition would be considered pre-existing. If going to be the case, potential buyers should be informed.

Do Not Use This Insurance Company. Scammers. I was involved in an accident which was not my fault, I am 79 years old and the carer for my disabled wife who has Multiple Sclerosis, I provided both front and rear dash-cam video to Generali via my insurance broker. Generali gave no response, I was supposed to have on my insurance a substitute vehicle in the event of my car needing a repair. However when I needed a substitute car I was told I would have to make my own way to Tenerife airport after delivering my car for repair to the repair garage to sign a new car hire agreement with an unknown car hire company whose terms and conditions were prior to attending at the airport unknown. I would then also have to pay this car hire company 200 euro deposit.
There was an alternative option of using a Taxi up to a maximum of 30 euro per day however the process for this option was that you had to call Generali first on the telephone who would order the taxi however if the fare for where you needed to go, back home in my case with a fare of 45 euro, then Generali would not order the taxi. This is the comment my insurance broker Chris ** and Kalika wrote to my inquiry tenerifeinsurance.biz. "Regarding the Taxi option. The way that it was explained to me was that you would not be reimbursed. You would call the number I have provided you, they would arrange the taxi for you, and if the taxi ride is assessed to be more than 30€ then it would not be able to be arranged. So there is no reimbursement issue as Generali would be paying the Taxi directly."
Generali work with various hire car companies and the one you would be getting a car from depends on vehicle availability on the day. When you go to collect the car, you would be required to sign and agree to the hire car contract before leaving with it, so you can ask the hire car company any questions about the terms and conditions of that contract at that time. If you do not agree with them, then you don’t sign the contract and don’t use the replacement car service. Terrible service from both the broker and Generali. Beware Do Not Use.

I bought insurance Oct 29, 2025. I got sick Dec 22, saw Doctor Dec 24. Doctor advised against travel in my condition, had to cancel Airbnb stay $600 starting Dec 28th. Generali rejected claim stating my insurance only starts Dec 28 and since I was sick 6 days before my trip, it is preexisting condition and refused coverage. Generali does not honor most legitimate claims. Generali lied about my Dr suggestion in the refusal, they lied about having bought coverage when I was already sick in their claim refusal. I suggest get a better insurance company like faye, Travelinsurance.com, Travelex, IMG pay $20 more to get better company.

This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. In my opinion, this company operates like a scam. I purchased their travel insurance three times last year and paid in full to protect my family. During one of our trips to Europe, I experienced an incident that I was unable to report while traveling. As soon as I returned home, I filed the claim. From that point forward, the process was extremely frustrating and disorganized. I received inconsistent paperwork requests, and after completing and submitting all the required documents, my claim was initially canceled.
When I contacted the company, they requested additional paperwork and assured me the matter would be resolved. I continued submitting every document they asked for. Despite fully complying with their requests, once they confirmed receipt of all required paperwork, they ultimately denied my claim. Based on my experience, I strongly advise others not to waste their money with this company. It is not worth the stress or frustration. Save your money and purchase travel insurance from a reputable local insurance provider instead.

Absolutely the worst travel insurance on the market. DO NOT BUY THIS. This extra money toward your trip is worthless. If you sick, be prepared to get a doctor to write a letter to this company. Many doctors refuse to do this. They will just give you a receipt for your visit but this company wants everything. I get travel insurance for every trip my family takes. We have only had to use it twice in 15 years. Expedia offered this insurance so I thought it was good but they are a scam. You will not see a dime if something happens. BEWARE.

I received an email saying they have everything and no need to call them back, that all I needed was to respond to an email to verify my contact information, which I did the same day, that was December 18th. Oh My God, stay away! My brother decided to insure our tickets to Thailand in June 2025 through a sponsored (?) pop-up (Generali advertisement) when we purchased airfare. You can only get your full refund back, based on their terms and conditions, in 3 stipulations--and 1 hidden one (called NEVER): 1. The death of a service animal, 2. The death of your travel partner, 3. The death of an immediate family member. And secret option 4. Give you the shady run-around until you give up. Our father died the week of our trip. We have still, to this day, 12/03/25, are still fighting Generali for our full refund. Based on their terms and conditions regarding refunds, we qualified for our $3111.00 money back. We've been jumping through hoops with them for 5 months. We provided an obituary, and EVERYTHING documentation they requested.
The staff who answer pass-the-buck, give false uninformative information, and will hang up on you. It's been a NIGHTMARE going through this process since dad died on July 5th, 2025, trying to get our refund back. I finally filed a complaint through the BBB, in which they did the work contacting Generali, and then Generali came back and immediately said they would pay us minus $700 that they insured us for. My brother and I three-way called them just tonight, and when someone answered, my military brother asked the Rep for a service # or an ID # linked to the individual we were speaking with.
The Rep said his name was 'Herb' and that he didn't have an individual ID. Then the Rep hung up on us. We called back. A guy named 'Herbert' answered. (Same guy) This time, he gave us a 4-digit ID # (probably fake numbers) and then he just led us in circles. We are still going to fight for our $3000 out of principle. If time is money, then Generali should owe us interest on for the 5 months we've been fighting. Oh, and our father is dead, and this has been super fun (sarcasm). DON'T mess with this SCAM company. Don't do it! At least the Better Business Bureau has helped make headway.

For the price that I paid for the premium, it seemed like I got more for my buck with Generali. Some places were priced a little less, but they didn't offer as much coverage. I like that Generali has three packages depending on the trip - a regular, a medium, and a deluxe package. I've never paid for the deluxe package, but I normally go for the middle package.
I was delayed coming back from Ireland. We flew into Dallas and they had terrible thunderstorms. So everything was canceled. I needed a hotel room. I could see a Marriott or a Hilton, and I could walk there. I had to fill out all my credit card information before Generali would give me a room. When I got to the hotel, I asked if there was a reservation under my name and there was none. We have been up for 36 hours straight and my wife was freaking out saying, "I need to go to bed." So, I paid for the room and Hilton said, "Everything will be taken care of." So, I wound up paying for the room twice and I had to use my credit card to use the room because they said I didn't have a reservation.
The reason they said I didn't have a reservation was my reservation used the full name on my credit card, and I told them my name without the middle initial. So, it took an awful lot of paperwork to get that all straightened out. Hilton refunded my money. But it was an awful lot of paperwork to get Generali refund my money that I paid for my room. They wanted the cancellation policy of the trip even though it was only going from Dallas to Las Vegas. There was a whole lot of paperwork I had to fill out, which I thought was unnecessary since it was a minor screw up.

On July 28, 2025, I returned a rental car to the Budget-Avis office in Gare Du Nord, Paris. This rental was covered by Generali rental insurance and trip insurance (two policies). Due to a minor accident, the car had some damage to the right side door when I returned it. I had previously notified both Budget and Generali about this during my 3-day trip in France. The Budget-Avis office in Paris made repairs the next day and immediately billed my credit card $4029.52. I repeatedly contacted Budget's customer service to ask for a document explaining these charges. They finally sent me an explanation on August 9. I then finalized my claim with Generali and submitted it. I received a letter from Generali requesting that I upload some additional information on August 14. I uploaded everything except the autobody/repair shop invoice, which Budget refused to provide me. (They said that the explanation of the repairs was sufficient.)
For over three weeks I tried to contact the Generali claim officer, Brenda **, to clarify if I needed to submit anything else. She did not return my calls and emails until very recently, and she did not call me at the times when I was able to take a call. Finally, on Monday, September 8, she picked up when I called and explained that I needed to provide the autobody shop invoice (which Budget had refused to send me). When I asked her how to obtain this, she did not provide any helpful advice or information. After hanging up, I received an email letter from Generali stating that my claim had been closed.
I am continuing to communicate with Budget, trying to obtain the autobody shop document, and they are not cooperating. I may need to pursue legal action against Budget and am consulting with an attorney. But my communication with Generali was the worst I have ever experienced with any insurance company, and the lack of communication caused the delays which resulted in the claim being closed. Although the Generali tagline is "Yes, we care", I found this not to be true. No one seemed to care about my claim. My calls and emails were not returned, and I wasted hours trying to communicate with your claims office and customer service.

I travel about 15, 20 times per year. So, I was looking for a travel insurance and stumbled upon Generali when I was searching online. I have used it for several times now. However, when I had a situation where I got sick and was hospitalized, I sent all the information to Generali but they didn’t want to refund me. They kept asking for a certain document that doesn't exist in that country. I showed them the receipts, went back to Brazil and got the other receipts but they kept giving me the runaround. I spent almost $1,000 and didn’t get anything back.
After that, I never used Generali again. I also tell everyone I know, and the people I work with who travel, not to use Generali because I don’t think what happened to me was right. That trip was expensive because I spent money in the hospital, on the doctors, and on my flight. I also spent money on insurance that did nothing for me.

Travelers be wary on purchasing travel insurance with Generali Travel Insurance also known as Generali Global Assistance (they have many, many complaints filed with the BBB for denial of claims). Their policy page is about 10 pages long and you will need to read the very fine print as far as filing a claim and being refunded on what few things they will refund on. They make it sound like on their homepage that filing for a refund is easy, it is anything but that.
I flew all the way to Africa from Chicago, missed by connection flight as the connecting airplane did not wait even though they knew my plane had landed and was on my way to the gate (mind you is also a Level 2 threat to tourists in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for thefts and harassment). Ehtiopian Airlines customer service had me sit behind the counter with them for my own safety for about 2 hours while they made my return flight. Was unable to get my phone to work internationally and even when I did a few hours later, was advised by the travel agent would be 4 days for me to join up with my group.
The airlines put me up in hotel for the day until my flight left the same night I arrived in Addis Ababa, even there twice I heard my door handle jiggling. But in Generali's eyes, they believe I should have stayed in a country not American friendly for the 4 days and risk my personal safety and they continue to deny my reimbursement for trip interruption, which I informed them I will continue to fight for my money back and not walking away from over $5,500 paid for the trip that I didn't get to go on.

Generali is doing a bait and switch to prevent paying out my claim. I had a knee injury on my return trip home, which was covered by Generali. Thinking it was a simple strain and based on established medical protocols, I performed at-home therapies to see if the symptoms would resolve themselves. I contacted Generali by phone and I was assured that, based on my Premium Plan, I could submit any claim for treatment that may need to happen after the trip and up to a year after the initial injury, since treatment would take place after the end-date of the covered trip. When symptoms didn't subside, I saw a Dr., did PT, got an MRI and was diagnosed with a meniscus tear. I did more PT to resolve the issue.
After presenting my expenses to my primary insurance first who paid the bulk of the costs, I submitted the remaining payments for these treatments to Generali for reimbursement, per my Premium Plan's conditions. The Generali evaluators have denied my claim, first because I did not seek immediate medical treatment on the date of my return travel-- even though, medically, this is not the accepted medical protocol. Then they denied it because they said my plan only covered treatment which takes place during the covered period of my trip-- and nothing afterwards. I have presented to the Generali claims evaluator an attestation from my physician, validating that the timing of me seeking medical care is consistent with accepted medical practice and requesting that the claim be re-evaluated and that the claim be approved.
Secondly, I presented the Generali claims my Premium Plan document, including the paragraph that states that Generali will pay on treatment that occurs beyond the covered trip dates, when the injury requires treatment that is longer than the trip itself. I also provided a quote from Generali's own website, which highlights the fact that, when you choose a Premium Plan you can COUNT ON claims being accepted for treatment, even when that treatment goes beyond the covered trip dates, if the injury tool place during the covered dates. After six different attempts to resolve amicably with Generali, I have reported Generali to the US Department of Transportation for deceptive practices.
The claims person, a certain Terrell **, continues to hold steadfast to say that all medical treatment needed to have occurred during the covered trip, even when my Premium Plan clearly states the exception, when treatment requires time beyond the covered trip. I WAS a loyal Generali customer, having used them at least five times in the last five years, for any of my domestic or international travel. Meanwhile, about two years ago, I chipped a tooth while on a covered trip, and I waited to be back home to get it repaired by my family dentist on a date after the coverage ended-- which Generali paid, without issue.
This experience makes it clear that Generali is trying to deceive their customers, denying the customer the benefits they are due, based on a policy of continuous denials, evaluations that fly in the face of standard, accepted medical protocols, and outright misrepresentation of their own plans. The difficulty to get the evaluator to change their decision, despite that they are quoting terms that do not apply to my Plan, makes me want to warn every customer to take their travel insurance business elsewhere than to Generali.

Awful!!! Wil never purchase travel insurance from this group again!!! Had to cancel my flight due to a medical reason. Sent in all required information, doctor's note and nothing was reimbursed from my purchase. The crazy part is the airline changed the flight last minute to a time I was unable to take so there were two reasons I should have been reimbursed for my travel!

Updated on 07/25/2025: Had to file Consumer Affairs complaint. Had to file complaint with Louisiana Department of Insurance to force company to respond as to why they have not paid me over 3 months after they said they would!!!. Marcel ** is claims adjuster whose last communication stopped after I provided his own message that he still owed me money. File a claim with the adjuster in whatever state you're in if they lie. I'm only asking for money owed and promised and they are lying. As of last week my adjustor stated I was wrong and no response from company except go back to adjuster. Rely on state and government because these international companies move like they're unregulated, which is true. However their US representatives are licensed with standards to keep. Good luck. Going on month 4-5 after providing receipts, being promised a payment and still not receiving it.
Note: He has not been able to send confirmation of paid receipts out of pocket to date and last communication he stated I was not owed any money. What he was paying is what I paid out of pocket. Do not recommend, do not trust, you will not be paid and Marcel will pretend it was never owed after promise. I sent Marcel his own email stating I was owed. No response over 7 days and company response is to talk to adjuster which is him. I feel scammed and feel like they perpetrated fraud against me to date.
Original Review: It has been since 04/2025 I have not received my medical reimbursement check from Marcel **. Does not respond to my email in a timely matter, did not update my information resulting in the check going to the wrong address the 1st time though he was informed over a week prior through email. No lawyer will pick up my case since were already settled and calling customer service since March they say I am not allowed to have another claims adjustor. Tried talking to his supervisor Lisa, left messages through customer service and voicemails since 02/2025 and have not heard from his supervisor to date.
They are unregulated and now I am left having to sue for what they already said they would give me!! NEGATIVE10/10 recommend. They lie about their settlements, and you will not get paid what you're owed without fighting for it. I am proof and Marcel is the reason why they can do what they want unregulated. It's all just sad, no way to run a business. They need to regulate their adjustors better or this is the scam they've been running all along, I cannot tell at this point however I do know I am owed and unpaid for months now.

But, for somebody who has better skills, it would not be a problem. However, making a claim was a pain. When one mails something to them, it has to be in a certain time frame. Instead of paying $1 to mail, it costs $10 or $15 to mail them. It was a pain trying to get back what we were trying to do. Eventually, we got exactly what we needed, but it took a while to get it. Subject: Travel Insurance Claim Denial – Generali Global Assistance – Claim #** / Expedia – Itinerary # **. I am filing this complaint to formally raise my concerns regarding the mishandling of my travel insurance claim by Generali Global Assistance and the lack of support from Expedia, from whom I purchased both the airline ticket and the insurance.
On April 6, 2025, I had booked a round-trip flight from Orange County (SNA) to Dallas (DFW) via American Airlines for travel on May 9–11, 2025. At the time of purchase, the ticket was clearly marked as non-refundable but eligible for flight credit in case of cancellation. During the checkout process, Expedia prominently offered a travel insurance policy through Generali Global Assistance. I chose to purchase this policy specifically because I wanted financial protection in case of an illness or emergency, and I did not want to rely solely on a flight credit.
Unfortunately, due to an illness, I was forced to cancel my trip. While American Airlines issued a flight credit, this option is not feasible for me. I therefore submitted a claim to Generali Global Assistance and provided all necessary documentation, including proof of cancellation and medical justification. To my surprise, Generali responded that they would not process my claim unless I could obtain written confirmation from Expedia or American Airlines that I had forfeited my flight credit. I contacted Expedia multiple times, spending over two hours in total as they attempted to coordinate with American Airlines. Ultimately, Expedia confirmed in writing that neither they nor American Airlines has any process to forfeit or surrender flight credits. I forwarded this written statement to Generali, along with an explanation of my age (I am 74 years old) and inability to make use of a future flight credit.
A representative from Expedia even advised me that given my circumstances, Generali would likely make an exception and issue a refund. However, despite fulfilling all requirements and demonstrating good faith, Generali has continued to deny my refund, citing policies that are impossible to fulfill due to airline and agency limitations—conditions that were never disclosed at the time of insurance purchase.
Summary of Key Issues: I purchased insurance to avoid reliance on flight credit in the event of cancellation. Generali's requirement to forfeit a flight credit is not supported by the airline or Expedia, making their condition unmeetable. I submitted all supporting documents, including an email from Expedia affirming the impossibility of forfeiting the flight credit. Generali continues to deny my claim, despite full cooperation and extenuating personal circumstances (age, illness).
Requested Resolution: I am requesting that Generali Global Assistance honor their policy and issue a full refund of the airline ticket cost, as promised at the time of purchase. I also request that Expedia take responsibility for promoting an insurance product that is ultimately unusable under reasonable consumer expectations.

I do a lot of hiking trips, backpacking trips to remote areas, and I've used Generali a few times. Flight delays, in New York for one night and Seattle for three nights, those kinds of things were easy to get reimbursed. But when we went to Switzerland a couple of years ago and my husband had medical and dental expenses, both of which happened on the same day, I did a separate claims for medical and dental because I thought the paperwork should be kept separate, and Generali did not pay attention to the dental claim. They kept saying they'd already taken care of the medical. It wasn't a lot, but we paid for the insurance, and we had all the documentation, so we wanted to be reimbursed.
First, they said they tried to reach out to the doctor in Europe but didn’t get a response. Second, I had to show that my US insurance wouldn't cover it. Medicare doesn’t cover anything overseas so I asked Medicare to give me an explanation of benefits so I could prove that my secondary insurance wouldn't cover it, but they didn’t help me. So, I couldn't get anybody to verify it, and that was frustrating. Right now, we’re trying to decide whether to use Generali again when we go Africa because the healthcare part of the insurance for people who have Medicare will be a huge problem for us.

In case something happens, I wanna be smart about it. I compared the plans Generali offered, and I liked the plan that I got. I usually have a good experience with their customer service. But the number to call when you're in the middle of your trip and you have an issue, I couldn't get any clear-cut answer. I had to call back a couple of times, be transferred, and be put on hold.
My flight had been rerouted to another airport and I called to ask what kind of coverage I had for transportation—if I'm supposed to take a specific mode of transportation to get from the airport that they routed us to, to my actual destination—and nobody could give me a straight answer ever. I wasn't happy about that because I was rerouted somewhere else, and I had to sit in the airport, and they kept transferring me and transferring me. They said, "Just do what you gotta do to get there and then submit it, and we'll take a look at it then." I didn't like that because I didn't know if whatever I'm opting to do was gonna be something that would be covered.

Just a week and a half before our adventure-filled trip to Costa Rica, I broke my ankle. We were past the refund date for the majority of our trip, but I didn't worry about it--I had Generali Global Assistance. The purchase process was simple, and I expected the claim process to be similar. Sadly, it was not.
Now, just a couple of weeks before I am no longer able to claim any amount, the company is still asking for documentation that is impossible for me to procure. Specifically, I submitted proof of cancellation from Expedia for a hotel reservation, as well as the company's cancellation policy. Generali has asked that I have documentation that explicitly states the words, "No refund was given." Expedia--another large corporation--will not provide this to me. I have a transcript from my conversation with Expedia stating that they cannot provide documentation beyond what they already have sent me. I have shared this transcript with Generali, but they have not responded yet. On the positive side, the claims agent did reach out to me and left a phone message a week ago. She sounded professional and supportive on the phone message. Unfortunately, I have tried to call back multiple times, but she has not answered or returned my call.

I’ve already referred people I know to them, and I booked two more trips for later this year where I will be using Generali again. I am very satisfied. We are very disappointed with Generali Insurance. We purchased a travel insurance policy for our River Cruise. We were not able to go on our River Cruise because of the fire at London Heathrow on March 20/21, 2025. We were to fly from LAX to Heathrow LHR and then depart LHR to Bucharest. Our flight was cancelled to LHR due to the closure of the airport because of a fire. Since the closure of LHR affected many flights and people, the airlines were not able to fly us to LHR until 3 days after the start of our River Cruise. We decided it was best not to fly to a foreign country, not knowing when and how we would meet our River Cruise. We were very concerned about being stuck in a foreign country.
Since we had already started our vacation, we had to fly back home. We incurred flight, hotel, food, and transportation costs….and that is not to mention the costs of the River Cruise. Generali denied our claim as it said, “As the reason for your delay/cancellation is not due to adverse weather, mechanical breakdown of the aircraft, or organized labor strikes, no benefits are payable for your claim.” Who would have thought that London Heathrow Airport, the largest airport in Europe, would shut down. The closure affected at least 200,000 people and at least 1,350 flights to/from the airport.
We never used any of the services provided by the insurance policy. The very least that Generali could do is refund us the significant cost of our insurance policy. Refusing to refund a service that was not used is unacceptable. I was told that if I felt the claim was improperly denied or rejected, we could contact the CA Department of Insurance. This experience has left me frustrated and dissatisfied and very unhappy with Generali Global Assistance. Think twice before purchasing insurance from Generali Global Assistance.

My doctor wrote a statement initially on the physician statement indicating that even though she did not say that I couldn't travel, she did point out that the medications that I'm taking for my illness makes me very susceptible to life threatening infections.
My physician also wrote addendum on the physician statement dated, 03/17/2025 with a more specific explanation of the medications that I'm taking that could possibly lead to life-or-death infection because of my immune system, if I became ill while traveling. I also submitted an impact statement to the insurance company indicating that I did that feel that my health could tolerate traveling at this time because of the potential risk of having a compromised immune system. They denied my claims twice and the second time without explanation. I always try and take out travel insurance when I travel, but this is the first time that I have ever had to use it. Back in February we had a trip planned to Colorado through VRBO and we purchased cancellation insurance. The day after the purchase we were informed a good friend of our was placed on hospice. I then went in and cancelled the trip. Our friend died the next day so we were not able to make the trip. I've sent General Travel Insurance the requested documents on 02/07/25 and they're still requesting more information. In my opinion when you purchase this coverage, if you're not able to make the trip, you should automatically be refunded or at least within 1 week. Why is it taking so long to get our $2,700 refunded from them? I don't know that we will be using VRBO again just for the simple reason that Generali is dragging their feet. I had an extremely disappointing experience with Generali Global Assistance. I purchased a travel insurance policy for $635.63 on February 14, 2025, through Justfly.com to cover my trip with Turkish Airlines. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected schedule change by the airline, I had no choice but to cancel my trip. Turkish Airlines promptly refunded the ticket cost, yet Generali Global Assistance refused to refund the insurance premium. Despite the clear terms outlined in their "Trip Cancellation Benefit" policy, which should cover unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, my legitimate request was denied. Their decision disregards both the fairness of the situation and my rights as a consumer.
Moreover, I never used any of the services provided by the insurance policy. Refusing to refund a service that was not used is both unethical and unacceptable. I attempted to appeal their decision, providing all necessary documentation, including proof of the flight cancellation and the airline's refund. However, my concerns were met with a complete lack of understanding and accountability.
This experience has left me frustrated and dissatisfied. I strongly advise others to think twice before purchasing insurance from Generali Global Assistance. Their refusal to honor legitimate claims and their poor customer service make them an unreliable choice for travel insurance. Save yourself the trouble and consider more trustworthy alternatives that genuinely stand by their policies and prioritize customer satisfaction.

Every time I was going for a trip I use to purchase Travel Insurance from Generali. During my last trip the flight back home was delayed by over 12 hours and I filed my first claim. The total of the claim was about $300. It was denied because the reason described in the letter from United Airlines delay was "due to Late Arrival of Inbound Flight UA869 on January 05 caused by Aircraft Servicing and Crew Availability Flight Attendant". This is one of the reasons not covered by there policy. It is a scam. Do not purchase it.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Ella. We searched online and found Generali Global. We spend a lot of money and in case something happened we would have insurance. And indeed, we used the insurance because, at the last minute, my son was in the hospital emergency room. His appendix burst, so we couldn't make the trip. It was two days before we left.
We called the insurance company and according to the instructions, we have to upload the documents that they require. It was a difficult process. It took about two months. They were always saying they needed a document. We needed a non-refund statement from the vendors. But we booked it for Europe trip. It was hard to get, due to the different policies and language. It was hard to get them to issue a statement saying, “This is nonrefundable.” Some of them were saying they will give us one-year credit but we're not going to be there within one year, so we won't be able to get the refund.
We got most part back because we were able to provide the hospital statement. The airline gave us credit that we can use within one year. The insurance company didn't want to reimburse us for that. We canceled most of the hotels but the cruise was nonrefundable. Generali refunded us for the cruise and plus a little bit for the bus.
Their procedure is very hard especially with the required documents. When we bought the travel insurance in the past, it was very smooth and much easier. They asked for fewer documents.
If you don't need to go with Generali, don't. Find someone else. They're not that bad, but they're not great to work with.
Thank you for the review, Lin Li! We always aim to exceed customer expectations, and we're sorry we fell short in your case. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we will use it to make improvements.

Please read the fine print before buying insurance from this company. I purchased insurance for a trip to AZ to cover the VRBO property that we rented. On the early morning that we were to travel my wife woke up sick and throwing up. I rescheduled our flight for the following day thinking that it would be a 24-hour bug. Alas, she was also sick the following day, so we had to cancel our trip. I spend about $600 on accommodations and was hoping to get my money back. I sent all of the documentation to Generali, but unfortunately you have to have a doctor's visit or a trip to the hospital in order for Generali to pay. I'll never use this company again since I'm out the $600.

I was offered this insurance when booked my hotel. I opted for it, but was not able to see any contract or guidelines prior to purchasing it (Expedia did not offer). Had I known that the exclusions were so INSANE, I would have never purchased the insurance OR booked with the hotel I booked with given their restrictive refund policy. Although the winter storm warning was not in effect for our area at the time I booked our trip, they denied the claim because IT WAS GIVEN A NAME before I booked. This is so unbelievably insane, but they are based out of California and the California board for insurance policies did just absolutely ruin thousands of lives by canceling fire coverage before the devastating fires that are currently taking place. This insurance is useless.

The wife and I planned, paid for, and insured a life-time trip to France in 2023 for travel in August-September 2024. In February 2024 I was diagnosed with cardio-vascular disease. Over the next four months various physicians and medical disciplines worked to stabilize me for open heart surgery which was performed in late May 2024. The wife and I were hopeful that I could recover by late August 2024 to be healthy enough for foreign travel. In June 2024, medical professionals began with assessments discourage foreign travel. We contacted our travel agent for advice and assistance in cancelling our travel plans.
A Insurance Claim was initiated with extensive medical documentation. Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours/Emerald Cruises made a prompt determination and appropriate refunds. Generali Global Assistance has been less than timely, responsive, forthright and accountable. Their process has been disjointed... no one will come forward and hold a communication. Emails disappear into a "No-reply address". Customer Service phone numbers, messages, and promises that someone will respond/call back are futile.
A Mr. Andre ** intimated by email that the claim forms packet had been received and processed... only to be later advised that a resubmittal was necessary... then retracted and was again being processed. Finally on November 1, 2024, Mr. Andre ** emailed that "Generali U.S. Branch"... was "empathetic to (our) losses", "thankful for the opportunity to serve...", "We appreciate your business and the confidence (we) have placed in (them)." ..."You will be receiving twp checks in the mail in the amount of $1,928.00 each in payment for your claim... Please allow 10-14 business days for the check to be received." "We are obligated to pay each named policyholder. Each policyholder will receive a check in the amount $1,928.00.
As stated, no checks, no return phone call, no email explanation has been received. I have initiated email inquiry asking for a copy of the "mailed checks", copies of business records of their issuance and disbursement, and, as necessary, the re-issuance of such reimbursement checks. All no NO avail. I believe this is a case of ignore-delay-distract-divert-deceive the Claimants. I do NOT believe Generali is empathetic, thankful, or appreciative. I/we certainly have NO confidence in Generali Global Assistance, Generali U.S. Branch, or Generali Integrity. What I WOULD appreciate is a courier delivery of the "OBLIGATED payment to each of the Policyholders". I/we would appreciate some ASSISTANCE.

Think twice before purchasing Generali insurance, Our trip was during the timeframe of Hurricane Milton and the aftermath of storm Helene. We were driving from VA to Key West FL but were informed there were many damaged and impassable roads on our path. We didn't travel with this in mind. Generali declined our claim, even after our realty company explained in detail, the situation, and requested them to re-review our case, Both the realty company and our family have used them many times, in the past. They were referred by the realty company that we use 1-3 times per year.
I don't believe that Generali looked at all the umpteen uploads, I provided upon their request. I say this because I sent a message stating that the initial invoice I sent was not the correct number, as it included the insurance amount. Thus, our claim should have been $8k not $9k. To the end, they referred to the wrong amount. It is my understanding, the realty company will not offer Generali insurance in the future. I doubt we will purchase any travel insurance again, based on this experience,

My claim has been denied multiple times over the past several months amidst long periods of radio silence from Generali Insurance, to the point I have had to get outside legal counsel just to have my claim read at all. If I weren’t a service member with a sympathetic command team and access to experienced legal services, I would be guaranteed to be out almost $2000 as a result of working with Generali.
Generali will do everything in its power to exhaust and delay your efforts to receive your compensation, and the user interface on their website is designed to confuse and limit your options, to the point of making you unable to add multiple justifications to any given claim. If you are a service member or anyone who needs to travel often, I would advise seeking insurance money from the mob before giving Generali a cent.

The second time when I went to Europe for 20 days, it was better coverage. I didn't use it, but it's a good thing I didn't use it even if I get money. Generali Global Assistance had better medical coverage for the price with another insurance. I did everything myself online. A couple of things were based on my experience for traveling a lot. I remembered a few times my suitcase was broken. Generali had very good coverage, better than another company for a bit more money. Trips today are very expensive. So, if you have a better coverage for a bit less money, even 50 bucks, it's better. I will probably use Generali again.

My friend had used Generali for their mom and I trust her and her research and that's how I found out about Generali. I got travel insurance because it was my first international trip in about 18 years. I knew that things happens so I wanted to be covered. It was $120 or $130 and it was worth the coverage and the protection that I could have.
On their website, I put down where I was going and how much money the trip was and it gave me the three levels. I chose the middle one. I didn't need some crazy medical coverage but I wanted some medical coverage because with my current medical insurance, everything would be considered out of network. I wanted something to supplement that.
My only complaint about Generali is that it's very hard with the customer service. There's a lot of options on the phone tree and they're all referring you to just go online. When I filed a claim or I had a question, I had to keep on pressing 0 or press that I was filing a claim instead of having a question about my claim. There was no option for if you just have a question about your claim or you have a question about filing a claim. Everything was referring you to the website but some people just want to talk to a person and get advice. But the people I got in touch with were very nice. Overall, Generali was great.
When I went to Japan, there was a typhoon and my friend and I had to stay in Tokyo for two extra days. We got our two additional days lodging approved through Generali. Also, my AirPods got lost at LEX and I was able to get a full refund of the AirPods. It worked out great and the claims process was pretty easy. I got the email about what to do and I gathered all my information that I needed on my travel itinerary, my airline bookings or the receipts. They wanted notification from the common carrier and this was in Japan. There was no official notice about the train suspension so I reached out to the train company and they emailed me back with an official response, which was very nice. And then my AirPods were a gift. I showed where they were at LEX from the Find My app and then the price that it would cost to buy them. Generali refunded that, which was very nice.

I'm very impressed with the performance he gave. When we took the tour, the flight was delayed and we had to connect to another flight because we had a cruise. The airline didn't declare a cancellation until the last moment, so we had to buy a new ticket. I have to claim that, but it took me a lot of time to call Generali to get a phone number for that agent. That could be a little bit faster. It delayed almost 15 days. The agent needed some information, and sometimes it's difficult to put it on a paper. Calling would have been easier and faster for both of us. I was planning a trip for my family and was looking for insurance. I came across Generali, looked at their website and it looked pretty good. I like the clarity of quotation on their home page. I filled out a form to indicate the date of the trip, the countries we are visiting, and the type of insurance we wanted. It was able to immediately provide good, better, best kind of packages. It was so clear that I could very quickly evaluate what I wanted and buy it.
I made a claim on my last trip and it was a little cumbersome to fill out all the forms, which is understandable because they're trying to rule out fraud. They required a lot of paperwork but I complied and got paid out within five days. I was pleasantly surprised because insurance companies often are very reluctant to make payouts. I'm going on another trip in December that I bought insurance for from Generali. I was concerned about a prior existing medical condition that I have, but I was able to get the premium insurance, which covers pre-existing conditions. I can go on the trip and not worry that I have to pay out of pocket if I really get sick. I'm grateful that I have that option.

They could improve on their attention to detail. But they reimbursed us for the majority of the items. There was one thing about the flights though. It's in their policy that they only reimburse up to 150% of the original flight amount, but it was very unclear. I said, "No. You don't understand. That's not what it is. We got credit for half of the trip. So I only really wanna insure the part that I'm exposed to." They said, "We can only insure the whole trip for 40 grand." It was confusing, but they explained to me that is the way they do it. I wasn't worried about how much I would pay. I didn't wanna over insure myself for something that I knew I wouldn't get back. The price for the amount they insure has always been value for money.
Nothing went wrong. But the insurance is great when these things happen. They've been very good about sending email updates and telling me, "This is the number to call. These are the people to contact. If you have a problem, call here. If you have a problem, go there online." That has been comforting to know. There was a Generali building in every town I went to in Italy the last couple of weeks. I said to my wife, "This is great." If something had gone wrong, I could have just walked into the office and said, "Help" and that would have been fine.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review, Peter. We apologize for any confusion with the pricing of your Plan and will share your feedback with the team to improve. I was planning a trip with my wife starting September 7, 2024 and ending September 24,2024. I purchased trip insurance policy on June 4, 2024 as soon as I bought the airline tickets and resort. Airlines cancel 9/7/2024 flight and issued tickets for September 9, 2024 with return date of 9/26/2024. Morning of September 9, 2024 my wife became sick. We went to doctor’s office and were told that my wife has a virus and ear infection. Doctor stated that flight will be vey painful for my wife and we had to cancel our trip. Portion of airline ticket were refunded and resort was kind enough to transfer our reservations for next year so we didn’t have to claim total amount. All we claimed is about $500.
On the same day September 9, 2024 I filed the claim with Generali, using their website and provided all requested documents. I received and immediately received email confirmation. On September 17, 2024 I received an email from Joanna ** from Generali Claims Department requesting additional information. I forwarded this information immediately. I tried to contact Joanna ** to discuss my claim. I was on hold for 30 minutes, but then I was forwarded to her voice mail. The message on the phone stated that someone will contact me within 24 hrs.
On September 18, 2024 I called again, after Joanna ** failed to return my call. This time I requested to be transferred to Claims Department Supervisor. I was told that her name is Cynthia **. I was put on hold and disconnected after holding for 30 minutes. I dialed again and after 40 minutes of hold. The message on the phone stated again that someone will contact me within 24 hrs. So, I left a message. I was told, that refund may be forfeited, if I will not provide all requested information. First time I was contacted 8 days after filing claim. It is 11 days into my claim and Generali’s Claims department employees refuse to talk to me. It is not good faith business on their part.

I purchased travel insurance based on the advice of a representative from the cruise line I was supposed to travel with. I explained my situation to both Generali Insurance and the cruise line when purchasing the insurance. I was later informed that I needed surgery. I was assured by the representatives that the policy would cover the cancellation of my trip. I submitted all of my documents in June and July, as the surgery was life-threatening and forced me to cancel my trip. However, they concluded that I am not entitled to a reimbursement because they consider it a pre-existing condition.
I didn’t know I needed surgery when I purchased the insurance, and I explained my situation and they assured me that the insurance would reimburse me if I had to cancel the trip. I nearly died and couldn't travel, and the surgery was required after the policy’s effective date. I've been trying to appeal by calling every single day, leaving voicemails and emails, but it has been impossible to reach the person handling my claim. It is heartless to lie and misguide customers into purchasing insurance, only to then deny them reimbursement.

The only thing was it was a little expensive for no more than what we got, but it was a necessary thing.
We're grateful for your support and for your choosing us, Ray!Our pricing is based on a variety of factors including trip cost, trip duration, time to departure and more. We regularly review our pricing and pride ourselves on having some of the highest benefit limits for the coverages travelers need most. You can easily check our coverage limits and compare those to the competitors by viewing our plan charts at https://www.generalitravelinsurance.com/view-travel-insurance-plans.html. Generali is a reputable outfit and if someone needs travel insurance, they're one of the best to go to. I learned about them through VRBO and I had no option to go with anybody else for damage insurance for the rental property, so we did that. But then we investigated the trip interruption insurance, and I looked at a couple of them that I've dealt with in the past and Generali seemed to have the best deal.
I've had a positive experience with Generali. I had a claim that they didn't quibble about and paid it off immediately. I didn't have to fight with them. So it's not like they will take someone's premium and then stick them. Filling out the application for the claim form online was no issue too. They needed some supporting documentation, which I was able to download and file on their website. It was a little more complex, but not undoable.

There was a third party involved originally, one of these online brokers, and I was extremely disappointed that they didn't connect to their website properly. So I bagged them, then I went to Generali directly in order to get the policy. I gave them my credit card number and they covered me.

I did a claim on the insurance. It was only a $70 claim. I had a flight from Seattle to Chicago, Chicago to Michigan. In Michigan, I had paid for a hotel for the night because I would meet travel partners. The flight was delayed and I had to stay over in Chicago, so the non-refundable hotel in Michigan, I lost money. I submitted the claim for the non-refundable hotel. I did it that night. The next day, I got an email saying, “It's been covered.” The process went through. Less than 24 hours. I was shocked. It was wonderful. I filled a claim with Generali Global Assistance, sent all documentation, photos (claim #**). After about 2 weeks Generali insurance company sent me a check in the amount... $89 only (eighty nine dollars). What kind of insurance is that? Why did I buy this insurance? I sent by email request to explain me why Generali insurance company didn't cover all amount, why they even didn't discuss the amount I was charged because $1300 for really small dent without any scratches is a scam (the rental company knew that I wouldn't be in Ireland at that time as it was my tourist trip). They allowed me to resubmit manually, to which they continuously sent me non-descriptive emails for missing information. No one would call me back and when I called, resubmitted additional information multiple times, I was told that my documentation did not meet the specific criteria needed.
It had been over 2 months and I had to comb through articles to find what they were asking for after already submitting multiple others with date ranges covering the "6-hour window of closure" they needed specified (for road closure due to weather). Additionally, I submitted public safety warnings, but due to policy language, the matter of safety is not actually what matters when paying for insurance. I am still battling to get my claim covered. I can't see paying a fortune for travel insurance, but you never know when something's gonna happen, and Generali had what I needed. I just got a little confused on the website. I could hardly read some of the policy things because the print was so small. They need to enlarge what it covers. They don't explain a lot of stuff really clearly, but it gives you an idea. I wanted a policy that would cover me if I had to cancel for any reason, but I didn't find that there without having to pay an arm and leg. Other than that, they asked common questions like where I will be going, how much I will be spending, and what's the length of my trips? I just answered them. Then they gave me a quote. At the time she was diagnosed with a high contagious dangerous condition. We were hoping that she would recover after the first round of treatment and be able to travel. As it got closer to the trip we were advised by 2 physicians that she won't be able to travel due to the nature of her disease and it being highly contagious. I called the insurance coverage that I purchased 1 year prior when I booked our cruise. They sent me a detailed coverage of our plan. They explained to me that this is 100% covered and we are able to get reimbursed for the whole family if I supply the documentation. I was sent the claim email with an attachment. I was told that I have to cancel the trip and get documentation of cancelation and what I needed.
I started to claim process. It was a crazy overwhelming process. I have used travel insurance in the past and this for sure was the most complicated and time consuming out of all the other travel insurance companies I have dealt with. I was able to get all that they requested and upload it all. I also got even more documentation and notes from multiple dr's instead of just the 1. I submitted the claim. I got an email that they approved $419.00 out of $5,343.00 that was claimed. I phoned the company and customer service was able to confirm that what I was canceling for is covered under my plan 100% for my family of 4. She advised me that both my claims adjuster and her supervisor are not available but she will put an action on my case that allows them to see that I need a call back ASAP. She also put me through to voicemail to make sure they are aware that I need a phone call back.
Well no call back in 3 days. I phoned back and guess what...neither of them are available. No one else is able to help me. There is no other boss or supv that I can speak to. They are so sorry but NO ONE CAN HELP ME. I explained how sick my child is and my time is very busy. ZERO COMPASSION. My advise is to stay far far away. When I shared my experience on MSC Facebook group, any others advised me of the same situations with different claims over the years. Their advice to is book with an outside company. It's sad that this company has zero compassion in their customer service and their claims department has no time to return any phone calls to their customers. They take your money but won't cover you. I hope they make it right soon.

Their website states that claims will be paid within 30 days of receipt. I submitted a claim package in early September 2023. I did not add additional information not provided in the original claim but the company kept asking for the information I had already submitted. They stalled the payment for months. I spent hours sending information and talking to the company until I was reimbursed in January. They will try and wear you down in an effort to not pay.
We're sorry to hear about the circumstances surrounding your claim and apologize for the delay as we take customer service and the claims review process very seriously. What a nightmare!!! I submitted a claim on March 21 for a guest and I still have NOT received my refund. After numerous and numerous calls, I HAVE NEVER received a call back from my claims manager even though her voicemail states she will return her calls in 1 business day. I’ve called her supervisor multiple times and I NEVER received a return call back from her either, they say “she’s in a meeting”. After calling and leaving an unpleasant message to her supervisor again, I received an email on April 10th from my claims rep stating she attempted to call me but couldn’t leave me a message at a number that was not even mine, even though I left her many, many, many detailed messages with my phone number.
I returned her mail that same day and she STILL has NOT responded to the email. Previously, I noticed that they had a CA address on file when I live in Florida, so I had to correct that with a customer service rep, who only seems to be able to help answer simple questions, not detailed ones so they direct you to your caseworker who never calls you back! I looked on the portal again and the number they had wasn’t even mine. The time, energy, and hassle taken out of my day spent trying to get my money back (which I still haven’t), they should have paid me double. My passenger became sick and unable to travel and I only requested a refund for their portion. It’s absolutely unprofessional, after ALL this time NO ONE can call you back!! AWFUL experience with them!

We provided all the information, but Generali Global Assistance couldn't figure out how to derive the amounts that we were claiming. But all the information was there. We had to resubmit information, explain to them in detail what they were trying to figure out. Other than that, they met our needs better than the rest.

I use Generali as a backup emergency in case there are any issues while I was traveling abroad, and the online tool is straightforward. I just book the travel insurance, then I make sure that they sent me the formal documents. I haven't had any issues while I was traveling abroad, so I haven't had to interact with them much yet, but they seem prompt, getting everything improved in the process. As far as I'm concerned, they've done everything they need to from their end.

I made a claim on a trip cancellation because I came down with COVID and I was very satisfied with the service I got from Generali. The claim process was pretty easy to follow. I contacted them and filed the form online. Then I received responses noting that I had made the claim and I was told what I needed to submit. I did that also online and the claim was processed fairly quickly. Their reps were helpful, too. Their pricing was competitive and signing up for the travel insurance was very easy as well. I will use them again.

Generali’s coverage was a bit better and the premium, as far as what we were charged, was a little cheaper. I wanted the travel agent to get the commission so I told her to book it. Just like with anything, rates depend on destination and age and all kinds of different risk factors. But if people are not using Generali, they should get a quote and see what they have to offer. The insurance is only as good as when you make a claim. It looks great on paper. But like car and homeowner's insurance, your roof is supposed to be covered, but then they come back and say it's not. It's all about the claims process and I get that there's a lot of fraud out there and they gotta cover their bases too from the standpoint of making sure that it's an actual claim and it's a real claim. Fortunately, I haven't had to make a claim and, hopefully, I don't, but it's always good to have the insurance.

Customer service representatives continue to refer calls we initiate to voicemail for representatives who do not respond, and we've only form auto-reply emails non-responsive to our questions by email. When we submitted our claim, filled out all the lengthy documents, provide receipts, photos- everything and we haven't seen a dime. They kept telling us they didn't get any of our email attachments. When I called, they said their security blocks the email attachments. Seriously?! So we sent them a link to our Google Drive and when I called she said she didn't know if they could open/use that. How do we send our documents then? What year is this? Funny, they had no trouble taking a payment.

We were going on a Viking cruise and to the Mediterranean. It was a big cruise and Viking was selling insurance from a very well-known company, and it was significantly more. We said, "Let's look for another company." We also did comparisons when we went to Antarctica. We got whoever had the best price, was competitive and well-known. Essentially, what Generali has is misleading. First of all, I did not insure travel is correct and I didn't expect anything, but the table they have at the bottom of my policy said $1,500 for disruption. So, I worked for hours to fill a claim. I had a connection. Because of fog the airport was closed in. I missed the connection on American Airlines, a first-class ticket, which was non-refundable. I had to buy a new ticket, which cost me $500. American Airlines refunded the tax. It cost me 1,500 bucks. So, I claimed 1,500 minus the taxes and the response I got was, “It's a normal thing, what happened. And furthermore, you did not insure travel, and therefore you pay 175. You did not insure the trip,” which is correct. I only did medical, “And therefore, we won't pay you anything.”
I had a two-hour gap between my arrival time and departure time with two separate tickets, a second ticket, American Airlines, to San Francisco. So I took a two-hour difference between the flights. It's not like I did 15 minutes and the airport was closed for four hours. I reached about three hours later than it was supposed to be. And of course, the flight was already gone. And then I tried to get another ticket. The earliest date I could get anything was two days later. I did not even submit the hotel bills. I stayed at Marriott. And I bought a ticket for 1,500 bucks, plus minus. Nobody called me. I'm not blaming. Nobody called. They sent me a polite letter. I don't have any complaints about that, except that the table was really misleading. I'm not happy.

Customers report on how easy it is to obtain Generali travel insurance, and how the insurance provided them with "peace of mind." Even after receiving the information they requested, they replicated their demands and then threatened to close my claim if I did not respond within six days. Be aware that they are secondary insurance--if you have health insurance, they won't pay anything but the small amount that might remain after your primary carrier. They also won't pay anything if you receive credit from an airline or tour company, even if you do not want credit but a refund from them.
In my case, all I asked for was a refund for a trip delay due to COVID, a clearly payable event, and getting this company to reimburse us for legitimate hotel expenses during quarantine and one canceled non-refundable inexpensive flight was a nightmare. This company makes promises and makes it easy to pay their insurance premium, but in my experience they are awful when it comes to getting them to pay very small but completely legitimate claims. I would never buy a policy from this company again.

I was getting their basic policy up until this year. They have a program now where for a little bit more money, you can get a few upgrades to it. I took that on this one. Also, from what I could see, and I did the comparison, their pricing is still better than the competition. The first time we had a claim was right after COVID. The insurance was for about $10,000 and I canceled it with the cruise line. They picked up half of it and they paid out for $4,700. They didn't give me a hard time on it. When I was trying to find a travel insurance that covered us to go to Patagonia, Generali had the best coverage available. It was for a three-week holiday with quite a lot of cost involved and we needed to make sure we had good coverage. We went for the highest coverage amount so it was the most amount of money, but it was exactly what we were wanting.
Generali gave me a good service with an insurance claim I made. I wasn't sure whether I had to make the claim while we were away. I logged in and spoke to a representative on their chat function. It was super quick. They suggested that we do it when we were back because if there was another claim to be made on the holiday, it would need to be done at the same time. We had a lost baggage at the beginning of the holiday, and we filed for that when we got back. They transferred the money straight away, no questions asked, after we provided the receipts of the stuff we had to buy for when our luggage was missing. I was impressed that Generali did it well and so cleanly. I've had insurance companies try to wiggle their way out of returning the money when there was a claim.

Generali has more coverage for the different options available compared to other providers. I purchased travel insurance because I was on a cruise ship last year and five people died. I was in Aruba one time and a young girl got her leg cut during a boating accident. I started thinking about transporting bodies back to the US and medical coverage and how the medical insurance doesn't cover you outside of the country. I decided that Generali might be a good option to help cover some unexpected things.
I signed up with them online and the process was good. I put in different options for the costs of the trip because some things, I didn't care about recovering if I lost out on the trip. And I primarily was more interested in covering certain aspects of the trip, like the high expensive costs, the cruise fare and insurance for different incidents. If you would look online, it would give you the full amount of what was covered. Since I've signed up, I keep getting emails explaining different coverages and different things to watch out for. They've been good about keeping you informed.
Thank you for your feedback and for your purchase, Frederick.
