We used Generali earlier last year, and we had to cancel the trip because I had an emergency procedure. I became ill just before we were due to go away. I went through the process online, then we were given a person who deals with the refunds who was very helpful and led us through the whole process. The people that we worked with at Generali were excellent when we set the thing up, and they were also excellent and timely when we submitted the paperwork and got the refund. If I needed to call them, they were very interactive and supportive. I was very happy with them the whole way around. That's why we're using them again for a vacation next year, and I've recommended them to other friends as well. They have competitive pricing too.

We went online, chose the plan we thought we wanted, input our names, and where we were traveling, and the amount that we expected on our vacation. They used that to determine the cost of your travel insurance. Everything was well. We didn't have to talk to anybody and there was no reciprocating correspondence. But last year, we had some issues, and it was pretty rough. I only went back with Generali because I was using last year as a one-off, but it was a pretty bad one-off. We had a flight canceled on our front end, and they also didn't return our luggage, so we wound up traveling without our bags and never got them until the end of the vacation. Generali was really difficult. Their customer service was not good. We had to fight tooth and nail for everything.
It took five payments to get what we really deserved back from them. Our flight was supposed to be Friday night at 7:00, and we got canceled at 6:00. From that point on, we were in jeopardy and trying to figure out how we were gonna go on our vacation. Generali made life really, really difficult from that point on. We couldn't even go with the same airline because they first rescheduled us on a Sunday, which was two days later. We were only taking seven days.
The airline rescheduled us for the next day, Saturday, and then they canceled that flight, so we had to find another airline and fly. The cost was higher but they didn't wanna cover it at first, even though that was very much part of what they cover when you had two cancellations. So if you have a claim, Generali is not very good. Even after last year, I still used them because I didn't know who else to go to. They seem to be one of the leading travel providers, at least insurance-wise. So I hoped it was just a one-off, but it was terrible.

I have a bachelorette trip with 12 other girls next year, and I wanted to be prepared just in case. I bought travel insurance through Generali's website and I liked how it gave me all the features of the different tiers to let me know which one was best suited for my travel needs. Generali was about $50 cheaper than other places too.

I filed a claim for delayed baggage on 8/3/2023. Reason: I arrived in JFK from Manila without my 2 checked-in baggage, so I had to buy items needed during my stay in NYC until the baggages arrived. I only had my carry-on items with me. The airline, PAL, only allow 7 kg of carry on baggage. First, I called Generali. Was told to fill out claim form, sent the form back with supporting papers. I have sent emails following up on my claim. Calling to follow-up is frustrating since I can't get to a real person and just told to go to the website. Last 2 emails I got was dated 10/2/2023 stating my email was received and dated 10/3/2023 stating that a claim number has been assigned and that a representative will contact me if additional information is needed. I do hope I will be contacted soon. It's been over 2 months since I filed the claim.

I submitted claim in June and was never contacted and never paid for essential items I needed to purchase. Very sad as I've taken many policies with y'all, and my first claim was unworked and unpaid. That's the reason to buy policies, for the confidence payout will happen in covered losses.

I Purchased Generali insurance for our trip to Croatia. We missed our connecting flight and had to spend the night in a hotel the airline provided. However, we missed the first day of our tour and included meals as well as what we paid for hotel in Croatia, sent all of the information including documents from the airlines and expenses, at the minimum the financial loss for having missed a day of touring and connection with Art for a group. We had to fly to another city to catch up with our tour group. I submitted a claim, and all of it was denied with proof of everything. The whole reason I bought this insurance was to ensure my trip, all they do is keep asking for more information. They don’t return phone calls and do everything in their power not to reimburse you. Don’t waste your time with this company. Waste of money.

We purchased Generali Travel Protection Insurance when we rented a VRBO in October. We were on our plane to fly into Portsmouth airport and the pilot informed all passengers that we were unable to fly, because the Portsmouth airport is shut down and not allowing commercial flights to fly in for about a week. The Portsmouth airport was shut down due to mechanical issues with the fire trucks. I contacted Generali and provided documentation of the shutdown and was still refused reimbursement. Now I am out almost $2000 for Vrbo that was never used. This insurance is a scam!

Unfortunately, like other insurance plans you have, travel insurance cannot cover everything. Generali has been easy to deal with. It was easy to go online and sign up. I feel like all of the options were clearly set out so it was easy to choose one. We had a situation where there was a hurricane that came up the coast when we were supposed to be traveling with small children. We didn't feel safe traveling so we didn't and Generali provided the refund for the vacation rental that we had booked. We got the service we expected.

We were going to Lahaina and Maui and couple of weeks before we were gonna leave, it burned down. We had to cancel. We got all our money back and it wasn't that long, a week to 10 days. We'll definitely use Generali again. We're happy.

I've used Generali twice. The first time I used them, they were awesome. They were very helpful. My flight got canceled and my trip was delayed for three days. It messed up everything, and they were awesome because it was such a big issue. I was really happy the first time. The second time I used them, I had a small issue with travel where my suitcases were delayed. One of my bags got ruined because they left it out in the rain and all my clothes got wet. So, I went to file that and I had to take an Uber because the flight was delayed. So, it was small stuff and they were asking for so much documentation that I said, "You know what? It's not worth it for 100 bucks." So, I ended up not filing. It was cumbersome. But in general, I would highly recommend Generali.

I had put in a claim and it was handled to my satisfaction. But there was a delay because the cruise line didn't provide the proper documentation the first time. So, it took a little bit longer than it should have.

I usually get travel insurance now because I know I'm covered overseas. I add Generali as a backup when I travel, and it's easy to sign up for. I travel a lot, and the first time, I didn't really know of them. I was connected with them through one of the sites, and the rates were good, so I continued to use them going forward. I was offered another one and it was more expensive.
I would highly recommend Generali. The first time I used them, I needed a cover letter to send to the country I was going to as proof for my visa 'cause I was going to Vietnam. I contacted them, and the customer service people were very helpful. They sent me the paperwork I needed and did everything I asked for. I was very pleased with them.

I purchased trip protection on a condo in FLorida.We were to stay from 08/29/23 to 09/02/23. There was a hurricane named Idalia heading that direction. The fact of not knowing where the eye of the hurricane was going to hit made us feel uncomfortable.I talked to an employee on the phone before I filed a claim, stated that we did not feel comfortable traveling with all unknown uncertainties and they stated just show proof of hurricane heading in area and send some pictures of news stating named hurricane and your claim will be paid. The company denied my claim. Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of an emergency for 49 counties in Florida. We did not feel comfortable traveling when there were so many counties under state of emergency. The whole reason I purchased insurance is for incidents like sickness or HURRICANE.

We went to Spain and we purchased insurance from Generali. It was an easy process to buy it online. Their website was easy to use. The price was very similar to other options, but since my brother used Generali, I chose them. Generali has a good reputation.

I had a good experience with Generali Global Assistance and it was everything I needed to take. They have better rates. I haven't had to do much with customer service as the process was mostly done online. Their website was very streamlined. It was very easy to use. I would recommend Generali if you were going on vacation. If I go on a trip again, I'll probably be using them again.

We ended up having to cancel a trip back in April because of a death in the family and when I talked to the girl from Generali, she explained what the time frame was gonna be and that was very good because if I had been expecting something faster, I might have gotten upset. She said I would get an email from them with a link to a web page. It would tell me all the information I needed to send in. It was 30 days from the event that caused the cancellation to when I was actually able to submit the paperwork and then, they reviewed it. They committed to 10 working days but it was less than that. They called me and said it was approved. It was as easy as could be and they came through in a big way. So, I will use Generali from now on. They are cheaper than Allianz and a little more expensive than a couple of other companies I tried but I had a great experience, so I'll pay that little bit of difference.

I used them in the past to cancel a trip and they were very forthcoming in accepting my medical reason for canceling. I purchased it again and my experience with them online was clear and the policy was well explained. They also have good rates for reasonable coverage, or sometimes, better than average coverage.

Generali offered the items that I wanted in an insurance policy. For what I wanted, they were close to the best. When I factored in the Better Business Bureau ratings and reviews, they were better. Their rep was very friendly and helpful with the information that I requested. I was looking for some information for our stay post-trip in Munich and she gave that to me quickly online such as getting from the airport to the subway as well as the location to our hotel. Generali did fine for what I needed them for. I was comfortable knowing I was covered and I'm glad I didn't have to use it.

When I was in Hone Kong, there were floods all over. Generali sent me an email if I needed to file a claim but I didn't have time to fill it out. I'm happy with Generali though the policy is pricey. I've always been with them when I travel.

My wife got appendicitis a few days before the trip. We were lucky we had the insurance with Generali. I went online to file the paperwork for the claim. When we weren't getting a response, I found it difficult to get people on the phone. Eventually, I was able to get one of their representatives on the phone and he was extraordinarily nice, very understanding and cooperative. However, I found out that, apparently, the representative who was trying to evaluate the case whether or not we were qualified for coverage wasn't getting the same information that I was putting online. He wasn't seeing what I was seeing. I was sending it to him personally rather than through the online portal and it worked out correctly.
Based on the experience the first time, I have another trip that I'm planning and I got Generali insurance again for it. All in all, I'm pleased with Generali. It wasn't always easy, but it worked out well once I understood the process and got the right representative on the phone to help me through the process. It's expensive but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Generali to someone else who is considering travel insurance. The company is reputable. They stood behind their insurance. Once they got the details that they were asking for, they were very honorable in the way they handled the account.

I had to do a claim and I was never able to talk to anybody. I just had to do it on my own online. I'm old, so doing stuff with computers is a little confusing and difficult. But, I got paid, so it worked out. They settled my claim when I had to cancel a cruise. I submitted the documentation, and they reimbursed me for my loss on the cruise. It just could have been easier if I could talk to somebody and get a couple of questions answered.

I'm gonna be 73 years old, and I'm on Medicare. If I travel out of the country, I don't have any coverage. I did a search for the top 10 travel insurances, and Generali was on it. I signed up and it was easy.

Signing up was easy but I wasn't happy with the service. We had an issue with our hotel. It was not as advertised and it didn't feel safe to be there. It was not easy to find how to reach out to them to get assistance. I had to dig through emails to find the number to reach out to Generali. Plus, they required hours to get back to me. If there was a bigger emergency, that would be such a hassle. Because it was gonna take so long to resolve, I ended up putting another hotel on my credit card. They didn't want to reimburse us for the money. I don't think I would use them again.

I was nervous, because from what I've read, there are a lot of holes in policies where they don't cover certain things. And I wanted to be sure, because a hurricane hit a couple of weeks before we went. So a couple of months ago, I decided, "It's hurricane season, we need to get it." I purchased travel insurance to Florida during hurricane season where it ended up I had to cancel. The eye of the hurricane was so unpredictable they weren’t sure where it was going to hit. I called insurance to let them know I wasn’t comfortable traveling with all the state emergencies surrounding so many areas. They told me it would be covered just to call the condo where I was staying. Then when I filed a claim they denied. Now I can’t get a explanation to why though it’s on recorded line, I was told it was covered. No response from company after several emails. If I would of known they weren’t going to cover I would of given that room for the week to someone in surrounding area that was effected by the hurricane a place to stay. I will never purchase insurance from this company again!! Also I would make sure their staff knows what they are talking about if you have to cancel.

I have another company that I purchased travel insurance on a cruise, and my father-in-law passed away and we had to make a beeline home. It was an extremely difficult process as far as reimbursement, and that prompted me to give Generali an opportunity. I compared products through internet research, and it was easy. I can use the policy as far as travel reimbursement back to my home dwelling.

I went on a cruise one time and was offered cruise insurance, which I did not like. I had problems with them in the past and they didn't honor what they wrote in their policy. It took about six months to get our money back for what we spent at the doctor on the cruise. I was then offered Generali and it was a much better policy for the same coverage. I went on their website and booked it for a trip that we're all going on in November. Signing up for the insurance was easy and the price was a lot better than what we thought it was going to be. I had a call customer services because I had some issues and they walked me right through them. I recommended Generali to people. I have several people coming with me on the trip and they already got their insurance through them as well.

Last year, I had to submit a couple of little claims. I had a kidney stone and while I was in Costa Rica, they had to give me some pain meds. It was an emergency. I thought I could just submit the receipt, but they won't let you do that. I had to submit all the medical stuff to my health insurance in the States, and then get an explanation of benefits. Then whatever my health insurance wouldn't pay, Generali would pay. It was quite a long process but in the end, it all got paid. I was so shocked that my insurance up here actually paid for part of it and Generali only paid the 40 bucks for the copay. For the whole thing, it was only 300 bucks out-of-pocket which wasn't bad.
Generali's prices are reasonable but their name is confusing. They used to be CSA, and I used to be an affiliate with them. I don't know why they changed their name to Generali.

I didn't have to use them but I felt comfortable knowing that I did have them. I really appreciate the fact that I had some insurance and setting up was very simple and easy. They didn't ask many questions and it was easy for me to respond online. I'll be using them again on my next trip.

We used Generali for the first time for our trip to Panama. Our flight from Hartford to Atlanta was delayed for 3 hours, so we missed our connecting flight to Panama and had to stay overnight in Atlanta. We were stuck at an overpriced hotel near the airport. Generali Global Assistance easily and promptly reimbursed us for our hotel room and dinner. It's the first time I've put in a travel insurance claim and was pleasantly surprised.

When I purchased my insurance last year, I had a problem with flight delayed and I would like to be compensated for that. But they don't return calls. I don't know who to talk to. I made several attempts already and the message said, "If you want to be called back, we will call. Give me the phone number." They say it's gonna take about three minutes but it never happens.

The entire process has been nothing but painful. Not able to get a live person. Send many, many emails and go on the site. Look for updates…. Now you can’t send the payment directly via Zelle. I have to wait for a check and it’s been an ongoing nightmare. I am highly disappointed in the service level offered.

The first time I looked into travel insurance, there was a whole lot of all the great things it does and it was very hard to get to the fine print and to sort through it to understand exactly what I was getting for it, what I wasn't getting, et cetera. My partner was very serious about wanting to get travel insurance and she also trusts Viking, so she does everything through Viking including airfare. She booked it so I read the fine print and realized it was through Generali. So I looked for them and had to do a bunch of comparisons with a bunch of other people, and I had to read through all the fine print. It took forever and nothing was straightforward. It was not very clear the first time and the more Generali could do to be straight up with people and educate them a little bit about what they need, it would go smoother. But the second time, I knew what I was looking for and what I wanted to pay. So the experience with Generali went very well. I booked it in five minutes.

I submitted a claim for a travel disruption and an additional (more expensive seat purchase) required which was accompanied by assurances that the original seat purchase would be refunded (it wasn't). Generali reviewed our claim and reimbursed us those expenses in what I felt was a reasonable amount of time. Well Done!

They eventually paid my theft claim, even without a full police report. I will say they ask for an usually large amount of documentation for claims. For instance, they wanted proof that I had attempted to submit my claim through my homeowners insurance first. It makes absolutely no sense to do that when my home owners deductible is $1,000 and I only lost $250 worth of items. I think it would be better if they asked specific questions first before requesting additional documentation. Other than the request for documents during the claim process, they did fine. My only other gripe was that it took over 3 weeks for my claim to get assigned to an agent. I had to call and ask why it was taking so long. Nevertheless, they paid out exactly what they should have based on my loss.

Very very disappointed. Very bad customer service. One Bag delayed, One bag Lost, Trip delayed, trip interruption, 45 days and getting runaround. Claims are not processed. How long I have to wait to get my claim paid. Lost lots of valuables.

Our return flight from Tahiti to Seattle was indefinitely postponed due to a labour action by Air Tahiti Nui cabin crews. We had to stay in Tahiti one night longer than expected, stay an additional night in LA and spend on meals, etc. The overall situation was very confusing, fluid and uncertain. The reporting process to Generali was very smooth, claim was opened instantly and we get some suggestion for early departure, although we didn't use them. The only little complaint is claim processing time, it took more than a month. However the resolution and compensation was fair. We are looking forward to work with Generali in future.

I called to follow up on my claims. I got a called and got a message that my cases are still in the queue. It’s been a month and no word, it’s a waiting game? 10 days I was told that somebody will update me but I was told it is still in the queue. It can be 3, 6 or 12 months? Who knows.

Generali travel insurance through Airbnb is a complete waste of money. We purchased the insurance for a trip to California. for the first time in 84 years, a tropical storm (previously Hurricane Hillary) made landfall in the state. Due to a state of emergency being declared for many counties (including ones we were travel from, through, and to) and travel warnings being issued by state and local emergency managers, we cancelled our trip. When filing a claim with generali, we were repeatedly told that our situation did not trigger the policy. What??!! Rather, we would have needed to travel to the location and then, maybe, if roads were washed away or we were forced to evacuate once we were there, the policy might go into effect.
Very intelligent… ignore emergency managers, put ourselves and others in harm’s way by traveling through torrential rain, rock slides and possibly debris flows in hopes of having the travel insurance we paid for actually help us as customers. We attempted multiple times to communicate this to generali and received the same answer every time… no. We now are communicating with airbnb about the highly questionable quality and business practices of the insurance carrier they offer and recommend to their customers. At this point, we are out nearly $500 for choosing to not risk human life/safety. Generali travel insurance through Airbnb… a complete scam and waste of money.

I made the request and 10 or 15 places responded with their prices and Generali had the most reasonable price so we went with it. I'm satisfied, so far. The only thing is my flight was delayed and when I came home, I sent an email but until now, no one has responded.

Good quality. They're fast to answer my call. They are in the mid-tier when it comes to pricing. It's not the cheapest, but it's not the most expensive. But I continue with them because of the experience that I have with them.

Updated on 07/08/2023: Thank you for your reply. I would be interested in your opinion of these 2 calls, as well as my auto answered call that said my policy # could not be found. Your company appears to need an upgrade to your electronics and training of all the random people answering the calls of your customers. A $1,423.00 investment deserves reliable service.
Original Review: I called to verify policy, pre-trip to foreign country to make sure the $1,400+ policy we purchased was intact. The man was very helpful but could not find the policy. I did not have the Policy # with me, but he had nothing under my name, email, phone #, address or zip code. I found the policy and called back because I was fearful we are scammed by this outfit. The auto answer asked for policy #, which I entered. Response was, there was no such policy # in their system.
A woman finally answered, I told her why I was calling and she immediately found my policy. With relief I explained to her the history of my previous call as well as the auto answer saying there was no such policy #. She was in a completely different locale than the man I spoke with earlier. She was extremely rude, talking over me. I had to repeat a lot because her machine gun response continually interrupted me with her erroneous conclusions as to what I was trying to tell her. I pray we don’t have to use this policy. Reviews regarding this company are atrocious. I can see why.

We've used them for multiple trips. In fact, we have another trip coming that I've already paid for the insurance. We did call once because our flight was delayed and we missed our ship. We didn't know what was going on and talked about cancellation. We got to a real person, put them on notice, but we ended up catching up with the ship and never made a claim.

I had a trip to Greece planned in April. 2 weeks before my trip my husband was diagnosed with cancer. He had surgery the day I was to leave. I filed a claim that week. I'm still dealing with the claim. Today I learnt my claim was closed. What does that mean? Just closed? Live chats are generic. "I'm sorry. I'm a bot [spelled bot} in training and don't understand your request. Please consider asking in a different way or a different question." I can't speak to anyone on a phone. I get more requests for my cruise policies. Numerous times I have told them I did not take a cruise. I'm dealing with my husband's illness. The only thing I can say is frustrating. My next recourse is to hire a lawyer. I will not tolerate this. I have keep copies of all my emails and online chats.

I called to get an explanation on a couple of points within the policy involving the difference between trip interruption versus trip cancellation. It was a very good experience. My plan with Generali will help cover any lost luggage, flight cancellation, and flight delays. The main reason I got it is for the medical coverage when I go overseas. As far as getting it set up, I just go on to their website and put in the information where I'm going, how long I'll be there for, and what kind of coverage I want. It's very easy to sign up, so I’d recommend Generali.

Filed a travel insurance claim three months ago. Website say claims take approximately 1 month to process. It has been three months now and still the claim is in limbo. After 2 months I received an email requesting additional information which I provided the same day. Now I am trying to contact the claims representative by phone and email. Automated phone system doesn’t work and no response to multiple emails. I will never again buy travel insurance from VRBO or GENERALI.

At our Airbnb we have been asking our customers to buy Generali Global Assistance Vacation Rental policies for about $60 per stay. After years of purchase we had a bike missing (or Stolen) during an stay, so we filed a claim... 3 months later it was determined that "Missing" items are not covered, only "Damaged" items are. Soooooo if you discover that all TVs, Furnitures, Antiques, Appliances, Etc have vanished during your guests stay, it's not covered!!! Because they're not "Damaged"... We no longer asks guest to purchase these policies.

I purchased travel insurance for a trip to Egypt. Upon arriving in Frankfort Airport to get a connecting flight to Cairo, I was told that all flights were cancelled due to a computer problem. I was told that a flight may be available the next day. The next day, the only flight available was a return flight home. It took me almost two months to get all of the proof Generali required. I submitted the required documents on 04/07/23.
On May 8th and just about every day until today, May 15th, I've been trying to find out when I would be reimbursed. Their system does not allow you to speak to anyone who can give an answer or even confirm that everything I filed was appropriate. On one occasion I was told the name and number of the person handling my claim. I called that person and got her voice mail and left a message to call me. She never called. I called again today but got no reply. My last resort was to file a complaint with the California Department of Insurance. Stay away from Generali.

I got my Generali insurance online and their website was straightforward. I purchased the medium policy and it had a sports feature in there that I knew I would never use. However, I went ahead and purchased it because it offered the 150% on travel protection. At one point, I contacted them because I was interested in purchasing a policy for a relative that would be traveling from the UK to California. However, they said that they didn't have a policy for that and that I couldn't do that online.

I purchased travel insurance for my trip to France. On the return, the airline misplaced my luggage and could not find it for 2 weeks! I had my work uniform and all my personal toiletries so I had to buy a new uniform and some basics. They amounted to $300 and after many calls and emails to Generali, they denied the request. This was after listing all the items, providing receipts and proof from the airline that the luggage was delayed. They said that because it was found eventually it wasn't covered. Isn't the whole point of "luggage delay/misplacement insurance" to cover you for this? Plus, the coverage was stated in the policy documents! Complete waste of money and horrible customer service. I DO NOT recommend this company!

I bought travel insurance from Generali to cover a trip from Naples FL to Argentina and Peru. Problems started the first day with missing baggage from my flight to Buenos Aires from Miami. That caused me to lose a day of vacation and hotel expense. I went on a cruise with Norwegian Cruise that missed 2 ports due to high wind. In Peru, my day trip to Rainbow Mtn was cancelled due to civil unrest and another trip to Marcahuasi due to a washed-out bridge (from heavy rainfall the day before).
The day trips were reimbursed by the tour companies but the hotel and airfare to get to them and the lost days of vacation were not. The company refused all my claims. They said the washed out bridge was not due to weather :-\. They said the missed ports were not covered because I was still on the boat (could not leave). They had no excuse for the civil unrest claim or the baggage claim. I consider this a breach of contract.

American Airlines cancelled my flight within 8 hours of departure. I had to rent a car to get to an airport 2.5 hours away that had an available flight. I uploaded a stack of documents they requested and they kept telling me they weren’t received and said maybe my files are too large. My scans were standard size. I eventually gave up because it was such a waste of my time duplicating uploads. I are the $340 and will never buy travel insurance again.

We were looking for basic coverage for an upcoming trip. We decided to use Generali and when we signed up online, selecting a package was easy. We got the one that would include coverage in case we had some medical issues or if luggage was lost. So we went with their standard package rather than their preferred. There were three levels and we went with the basic one. Having it provides peace of mind.

I bought from them one time and they paid a claim far more expeditiously than other companies, so I went back and bought again. The process was cumbersome but they were responsive. If they cover your kind of trip, then they are worth looking at.

Bought travel insurance through my agent and signed up online. No problem. Until... Flight from PA To Germany was canceled by the carrier and rescheduled for the next day but I wasn't made aware until I went to check in. Wasn't going to work for the tours we had scheduled in Italy so we booked 2 one way tickets with another airline. Placed a claim for reimbursement due to canceled flight. I have email confirming the flight was canceled but not the reason why. Generali wants the reason so they can process the claim. I have emailed and called and been on with Lufthansa customer service and have been told they are not giving me a reason so stop asking. I'm not losing out on my $1600!!

I bought their travel insurance. My flight was cancelled by Southwest on Christmas day. Guess what? They denied my claim for travel cancellation. They asked me to approve the flight cancellation was due to weather. It is a total waste to buy their travel insurance.

Working with Generali was a monumental waste of money (a $1500 premium) and time. Perhaps they’re better with medical claims, but “buyer beware” if you need to file a claim for any other loss. Here’s the story: My wife and I purchased Generali insurance to cover the $15,000 cost of renting a home on Sanibel Island, FL for the month of February, 2023. On September 28, 2022, Sanibel was hit by Hurricane Ian. The entire island was flooded by 4-12 feet of storm surge. Our ground level (ranch) rental was flooded to the rafters and made uninhabitable (no intact interior walls, no kitchen, no bathrooms).
We filed an on-line claim November 7th for the loss, based on Section 7 of the “Trip Cancellation Benefit,” which states that covered events include "Your Accommodations at your destination made Uninhabitable due to fire, flood, volcano, earthquake, hurricane or other natural disaster.” All of the requested documents were provided (a long list). Simple and clearly covered, right? Well, no… After patiently waiting for 30 days and hearing nothing, I called Generali’s Customer Service number and the “nightmare” began. The service representative had no specific information but did give me the direct number for the agent handling my claim. After leaving numerous unreturned voice mail messages, I called back, and Customer Service gave me the name of the agent’s supervisor.
Countless calls to both agent and supervisor went unanswered until January 5th, when after a 3rd call to Customer Service, the agent finally called me. She apologized for the delay, stated that she had all the information needed, and promised to process the claim in a week. Then, on January 13, I received an Email from her denying the claim, stating that there was “no longer a mandatory evacuation or road closures that would have prevented you from taking your trip.” She completely ignored the basis for our claims (that the house was uninhabitable). P.S., The good news is that our host was able to cancel the reservation, and as a result, Airbnb issued a full refund. If only I had known this was an option…

Generali’s customer service seems good and when I contact them for changes, they seem on the ball. The purchase service and modifications are very good and the cost is okay. One of the things that’s lacking is a full year plan. I travel so much and I buy a plan for every time I travel. So, it'd be nice to have a full year of travel plan. Otherwise, I'm very happy.

We rarely do trip insurances but we purchased one with Generali Global Assistance because my mother-in-law has some health issues and we didn't know when we booked what the situation would be. I was impressed by the purchase process. There was a grid on the website and it showed various levels of protection. It detailed what the differences were and it was super easy to pick one and then pay.
I liked the ease of doing business with Generali, not only on the purchasing side but also on the side where we were gonna need support. It sounded like they were very easy to do business with. The experience has been great so far. But the proof is in the pudding. We will go on our trip next week and hopefully, things will go well.

I had purchased Car Rental Insurance from Generali for a trip to the UK. Unfortunately, somebody hit my car when I was in the parking lot of a tourist attraction and didn't leave a note. There was some noticeable damage and when I returned the vehicle I was charged by the rental car company. I had filed a police report but held out little hope.
The claims process was extremely straightforward and easy to navigate on their website. I uploaded all of the appropriate documentation. The process took a little time but I was paid the full amount after providing some more documentation. The response from CS when I asked for the claim status was very quick and precise. I would definitely use Generali again but hopefully I don't have to file a claim!

Generali seemed to have a lot of good reviews so I picked it. I'm using it now. We were on a very long cruise and on the 30th of November, my sister started to get ill. The Wi-Fi was very poor and I could not contact Generali until we were in a port. It got really hectic because we had to come home from South America and my sister was COVID-positive. They wanted six or so pieces of info, like a copy of her passport and I sent that. I sent all the things they were requesting and now, I have to scan receipts. I have to give them what I want to claim. She had a $1,500 doctor's bill in Cusco. The Machu Picchu trip itself was also really expensive and I want to try to claim that because my sister was just sick in bed. I had to get another hotel room.
The part that I didn't like with Generali was the phone menu was convoluted and tricky. The phone menu was sort of blocking me from talking to someone. I could get to someone, but I had to be smart about it. I really needed to talk to someone because this was a complex situation and I had to go into the backdoor. Once I got to a person, it was good and fine.

We haven't taken the trip yet but the last time I used Generali for the same trip. The producer cancelled because of COVID, and Generali refused to refund my money. So I wasn't happy about that. They didn't even respond when I wrote them.
I said it’s for a cruise, postponed because of COVID. I said, “Can you accept the money for the adjusted date? Or can you refund the money and I’ll pay again when the trip is scheduled?” I wrote two emails, and they never responded. And the only reason that I'm using them again is because they have the best rates. But I didn't think it was right that they didn't respond.
The first time when they didn't respond, I had ordered the coverage through a broker. And I wrote both the broker and Generali, and neither one of them responded. This time, I went directly to Generali. Hopefully, nothing will happen on the trip, and they can keep my money. And I'll keep my health and that'll be wonderful.

I booked my vacation, and at first, I denied the insurance, but then I went back and signed up for it. The trip was in Florida, right before the hurricane hit, and I wanted to insure the trip, just in case. I went online and purchased the insurance, and it was very easy. It took me five minutes or less, and I didn't speak with anyone. I would recommend Generali. It was very reasonable for a week's stay, and it more than covered all the basics.

The trip I was taking required that I purchase travel insurance. There were certain benefits that I was more concerned about. I did a comparison between the Generali policy and other policies that were out there, looked at the ones that had the benefits that I was looking for, and then made the selection based on price. The first time I got travel insurance, it was required in order to visit the Philippines, the country that I was going to. Generali was one of the very first places I saw when I was searching for travel insurance. After doing some research, they seemed like a credible place, one that's been around for a while. It was very hard to read the policy to understand what the exclusions were. I understood that a pandemic was excluded but I was concerned about the financial viability of the travel companies I booked with. It was very confusing because there was the actual travel company and then the travel agents and it was very hard to ascertain. When I called Generali, I found that the customer service person was not knowledgeable about it at all. Their policy could be clearer with regard to financial solvency and to issues surrounding the pandemic and pre-existing conditions. Other than that, the claim process was fairly good and they paid my claims on a relatively timely basis, which is why I've reused them.

My connecting flight on Aer Lingus was cancelled on September 10th 2022. It was cancelled due to computers going down and their back up system also went down. You can Google it to confirm. Apparently Generali Insurance says the computers aren’t part of the plane and are not covered. If the plane had a flat tire and was delayed it would be. So Boeing stuck in Dublin for 3 days, first day calling and spending over 8 hours on hold, getting disconnected every 2 hours, second day spending over 6 hours in-line to get nowhere. I was able to get a flight myself. But thank you Generali for not covering my claim.

If I can give a negative star I would. We planned a trip to Sanibel in Nov. As everyone knows, hurricane Ian destroyed the island in Sept. When we booked a beach rental property in Sanibel I bought travel insurance from Generali Global Assistance. After seeing in the news the destruction on the island I filed a claim after hearing back from VRBO that the house we had rented was destroyed by the hurricane. Today I received an email from them that said they will NOT cover my trip because they have a 15-day window clause for the trip cancellation.
They are aware the house I rented in Sanibel no longer exists because of the flood. But because the flood happened on 9/27/22 and my trip is 11/21/22, my travel days are more than 15 days from the time of the flood so they will NOT honor my claim. What the ** is this? I didn't read any fine print regarding the 15 days when I sign up for this insurance. This 15-day clause only showed up after I filed a claim. This company is a disgrace. I am filing a complaint with the BBB next. Stay away from Generali Global Assistance!! They are SCAMMERS!

Our policies cover 30 days after a mandatory evacuation and 15 days after for interruption of road service, accommodations made inaccessible, or interruption of services at the destination such as electricity and water. It was spelled out clearly online that Generali had the Covid coverage in. I couldn't find it in other places and then, you have to call or email. The ease of making sure I had what I wanted made me decide on them. They had three options and it was easy to see which one I needed. I wouldn't travel without the coverage.

I took a sailing trip and I ended up having emergency surgery in Tahiti. I was billed almost $9,000 and Generali did not cover me while I was away. It's strictly a reimbursement policy, which to me is not insurance. Also, I paid the extra $4,000 to get home. That's between airfare and a hotel that I had to stay at because I couldn't fly right away. If Generali doesn't pay this claim, I will be thoroughly disappointed because there's no way I'm coming out of pocket 10,000.

For a first time I decided to purchase travel protection for a trip to Ft Myers Beach, FL. Due to hurricane Ian, we received a notice that our reservation was canceled because of the destruction and the condo was inhabitable, and I was advised to file a claim with the insurance company. Because our reservation was more than 30 days out (54 days), the claim was denied. Additionally, this company seems to go to lengths to make it difficult to speak with anyone unless you are extremely persistent.

I WOULD NOT get travel insurance through this company. I had an Airbnb booked, but due to our party increasing, I had to cancel with one rental and rebook with another airbnb. Because they have a "FREE LOOK" it is only good to cancel within 10 days. And that is not what the first airbnb agent told me. This company won't even cover my new airbnb house, nor refund me. I never received an email nor did I get any info on this policy they have. They don't even provide good customer service. When I contacted them, it was basically like "oh well".

My flight to Ireland was cancelled after being delayed several hours because the airline was unable to get enough crew members to staff the flight. I was rescheduled on a flight the next day. I filed a claim for my first night's lodging which was already paid for and nonrefundable. The claim was denied; the explanation was that airline staffing problems are not specifically listed as a covered event, and that I should have read my policy more carefully. DO NOT BUY INSURANCE from this company if you expect to be reimbursed. They will use any loophole to deny your claim.

The night before we were going on the trip, I was feeling sick, so with COVID going around I didn't want to take the chance and travel. I called Generali Global Assistance and told them that I was going to cancel because I didn't want to be on vacation with COVID. But they said there was no cancellation within 24 hours. So, I was disappointed in that, especially in a situation like we're in now with this so-called pandemic.

This company also goes with other names Generally Travel Insurance or CSA Travel Protection. DO NOT PUT YOUR MONEY INTO ANY INSURANCE POLICY. THEY JUST ROBBED YOU. When a legitimate claim submitted, they deliberately delayed and finally abandoned your claim despite the claim is entitled for travel cancellation coverage according to policy. Not worth the headache and stress. Rather donate your money to a purposeful charity than a scam.

My husband and I are photographers. We travel all the time and we use travel insurance all the time. I found Generali when I was doing a comparison on a website. Generali's customer service was very good because my big concern was the COVID protection. I picked what level of policy I wanted. Even though it said on the website that COVID was covered, I called just to make sure. Customer service picked up the phone right away and they gave me a definitive answer. They were very responsive.
The website was very user-friendly. I'm an experienced person buying travel insurance. On some trips, I need to buy a lot of medical evacuation like if you're in Antarctica. On other trips, you don't have to worry about being evacuated. You can vary things like do you want it to cover the cancellation, delay, or medical evacuation. It was very easy to change the variables.

I took a trip with some friends and they were researching travel insurance. One of them has diabetes type 1. So, she needed a specific kind of insurance that would help also with medical stuff. She did all the research to find the best one for her at the best price and Generali was what she recommended. So, the four of us all bought it. I used it because, when I came back to the states, our luggage was delayed and I wasn't going straight home. So, I had to go to a store and buy one day's worth of clothing. It was so easy to submit a claim and get reimbursed.
The online procedure was really straightforward and basic, and then I didn't have to do anything. It was like two weeks later that the money went to my account. It was totally worth my time. I had such a good experience with Generali that if anybody was looking for travel insurance, I would recommend it. This was the first time I ever purchased travel insurance and I was skeptical. Generali converted me. If I do any significant traveling again, I would buy it.

On our first trip, there was a strike at the airport, so we couldn't get in and we couldn't get out. Generali settled it within 24 hours. So, it turned out we didn't have to do anything with them. We ended up just spending the night and they comped us. We've had no issues and they have been very helpful. We do travel insurance, especially flying to the Caribbean at that time of the year. So, for us, Generali is a must.

DON'T BUY INSURANCE. THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOU. I just had one of the worst travel experiences of my life. After having been stuck outside of my home country due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, I couldn't travel back home because they closed down the borders to the country for almost a year. My passport had expired in the meantime along with my national ID (required to renew passport). Therefore, I couldn't renew either until I was physically in my home country. Circumstances beyond my control, right?
Well not to this company! Air Canada refused to board me (I secured another airline ticket the same day toward my home country with no issues but for thousands of dollars more) and the "Insurance Company" would not refund my ticket because it is not LISTED under their "Covered Items". Which is just a blanket statement to cover themselves when they want to refuse a refund/claim.
I have been unemployed for two years due to COVID-19 Pandemic, and I couldn't go back home for the longest time... This experience with both Air Canada and Generali Travel Insurance have proved to be the worst of my life. A traumatizing experience and financial burden and strain on my family. Don't purchase from this insurance company, because apparently they don't account for any circumstances that they don't have listed in their policy list.

I was looking up on Forbes the best travel insurance for bang for your buck and I found Generali. They have offices in Croatia, which was where I was going. I purchased insurance for a trip to Europe in May. The price for the coverage was really good. The person I spoke with helped me go through the policy and I had everything that I wanted.

I had a claim a couple of months ago and it was handled perfectly. I arrived at the airport and my luggage was broken. There was one wheel completely gone and there was a big hole at the bottom of the luggage. So, I made a claim with Bianca, the rep, and then I made a claim with Generali. They immediately refunded me for the value of the luggage. They were great and I was happy with that. The experience with them was extremely positive.

Generali mailed me the policy when they said they were going to. When I had a question, the person that I talked to was helpful and friendly. Also, I really liked their website. It's very clear what you're covered for. There are a lot of pages to the actual policy once I read it, but the summary is really clear. I've been buying Generali for a while now and I have a big trip coming up next year that I haven't bought insurance for yet. It’s the biggest trip we've gone on, so it's more expensive, and of course, the premium is more. So the premium is gonna be over $700 for this trip. There's another insurance company that is also reputable where the premium was only $550. So we might go for the less expensive one in this case because there's such a big difference.

Following my entry on this website yesterday, I received emails from Generali this morning notifying me that checks are in the mail for my claim. The terms of the policy I purchased prevented me from receiving compensation for all expenses submitted, but did seem completely fair according to the terms.
A thing to be aware of during Covid times is the maximum compensation coverage for accommodations and meals during a travel delay. In our case, the maximum was $2000. Due to travel restrictions after a positive Covid test, we were delayed 10 days. Realistically, $2000 is not enough to cover lodging and meals for that long. In normal times, with normally shorter delays encountered, $2000 would be adequate. Just something to keep in mind when selecting your plan.

Updated on 08/30/2022: Generali's claim-filing platform was not working well, so I ended up filing paper and sending by snail mail. I quickly received 2 emails stating that checks would be sent. The smaller check arrived immediately. 40 days after that email notification, the large check has yet to arrive. I reached out to the company after 21 days and was told there had been a glitch in processing, that the glitch was now corrected and the large check should be mailed on August 16. 15 days later it has not arrived and, most concerningly, my calls and emails to my customer service rep are not receiving responses. I remain hopeful that I will be able to improve this review very soon, but at present it is frustrating.
Original: I am hopeful that my issue will resolve into an experience I can give 5 stars to, but right now I am just simply baffled and frustrated with the process. I submitted multiple documents to support my claim over a week ago. Since then, I have checked back online multiple times and the message is that there is no claim on file. But the system also won't allow me to just start over and do it all again. There is a definite problem with this company's website, and trying to talk to a real person is impossible. Like I say, if this turns out in the end to be a satisfactory experience, I will revise my stars. The truth is that you never know how good travel insurance is until you file a claim. Then, the proof is in the pudding.

I made a purchase and it was all online 100%. The website seemed sufficient. Before we left though, I got a thing called cellulitis, which is a form of blood poisoning. I was in the hospital for five days right before the trip, and the doctor said I absolutely could not do the road trip that we planned. So, I filed a claim as a result of that and it was extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive.
Generali handled the claim fairly quickly, but on my end, it wasn't quick because it took quite a while for me to get all the forms filled out. They wanted all sorts of information and I had all the information that they needed, but they wanted to have the doctors fill out these forms. I had to run down to several doctors, which wasn't easy, and had them fill out forms. I had to talk to the doctors in person, and I had to do screenshots and faxes as well. Generali needs to be able to somehow streamline the filing process.

Generali is reasonable, if you think there's going to be an interruption in a vacation or coverage. Commonly, I do not use it because I don't expect it. But I have a very senior mother and we are concerned about her health. If she was unable to go, we'd have to cancel. In this case, it was merited. We had it as preventive medicine. Everything went well so we didn't use the claim. Nobody likes to separate with money for insurances, but it was definitely worthwhile.

I bought the insurance from Generali and there wasn't any problem. My niece was very happy with them. She had to file a claim. She traveled but something happened to her. They had to cancel the trip, and they were able to refund the money.

I picked the cheapest insurance with Generali called the standard package. It seemed to fit my trip. I didn't want to insure a $12,000 trip for $50,000 as that didn't seem necessary. I did the insurance in case I tested positive for COVID and was trapped in Vancouver. I did all this process via the internet and the keyboard. It was relatively painless and went right through smoothly. Everything was more or less answered in the big disclosure or the contract.

The policy looked like it was covering what I needed and it was easy enough to understand as well as purchase. I had a certificate of insurance in an email, and I felt protected. I'd sign up for Generali every time I traveled, if I got a rebate if nothing was used. That'd be an incentive to buy because it's a gamble. I'm betting something's gonna happen, and they're betting something's not gonna happen.
Insurance companies profit in the billions. If they paid everything that ever came in, they’d still make a huge profit. Our trip was 500 bucks and if everybody on that trip bought something like that, that's 6,000 people, 18,000 over two weekends or some crazy number. Even if they had to pay on every claim on that event, it would be a big hit. Every other trip that they book and don't pay on, it would way more than pay for it.

I wouldn’t have bought travel insurance through Generali because it’s covered by my credit card, but the country we were going to required us to have travel insurance because of COVID. American Express gives us the same stuff, but they didn't accept it. I just wanted it done, so I paid for travel insurance. It was a colossal waste of money, but it was a necessary evil.

Generali's login process didn't work well. It would say that my password is incorrect. And I kept on trying. It finally let me in. So, that was a frustrating aspect about it. Other than that, submitting the claims was straightforward on their website. They handled it within their stated guidelines. They said they would look at it within 30 days. It was day 26, and we finally heard some conversation with them. They contacted us via email. They needed additional documentation. We provided it. And that same evening, they said that they approved our claim and they would get a check to us within two weeks. And it came within a week. So, we're satisfied about that. Overall, it was a positive experience.

The application process with Generali was very easy. They gave me all the information I needed. I got the email that they sent me confirming everything. Having the insurance gives me a sense of relief to know that if something does happen before we go on the trip, we have the option of getting our money back. Even while we're there, we have the option of having to stay there longer if we had to. We could use that also.

Part of my decision to get Generali was the cost and part of it was the benefits they offered as far as what percent of coverage they had. I came in contact with a person when our original travel got cancelled because we booked up for 2020. I had to deal with the travel voucher. The only negative thing is what I didn't know. We had a trip planned. It got cancelled because of COVID. And we got a travel voucher. So, when I rescheduled the trip, the price almost doubled.
Generali said, "Well, part of it is because we're extending your window for travel." So I said, "Okay, fine." But when that second trip got canceled, when I was on their website, it said, the vouchers were only good for the end of the year. And when I just happened to get back on because I was looking for insurance for a different trip, it said the travel vouchers were good through 2023, which we had the trip rescheduled for. Again, I got another voucher. So, I thought I was out of pocket all that money. But they could do a little better about notifying me that, "Hey, by the way, if you didn't take your trip, you could still extend the voucher." Other than that, I would recommend them.

Generali made it kind of difficult to submit a claim. It's like they were trying to not pay it because every time we'd give them an item, they'd ask for something else. They drag it out, which most insurance companies do but Generali made it difficult to try to pay us.

We had boarded and then, probably an hour after we'd been on the plane, we were told that something happened during refueling. So the plane couldn’t be flown and we were sitting on the plane for about three hours. We were told that we were going to be rebooked for the next flight. But that wasn't until 24 hours later. November 4th was the original day we were supposed to leave but we didn't end up leaving until the 5th. The travel insurance paid for the day we missed. We had to pay for the Airbnb that we weren't there for. It took a while for a response about the claim with Generali but once they looked at the claim, it went quickly. The customer service was great. I was glad Generali was able to help compensate for something.

I got a claim in with them right now and I haven't heard anything from them in a couple of weeks. The claim was for United Airlines, coming back from Florida on my last trip. They had a lot of trouble with their planes and they canceled flights and that was what happened to me. I had to spend the night in a hotel. So, I put a claim in for the expense. I called last week and they said, "Leave your phone number and we'll get back to you," if I didn't want to wait in line. I did that, left my phone number, but I never got a callback. But overall, I'm very happy. I'd book again.

I had an incident where there was confusion from the government on my visa requirements and they had to send me back. It wasn't my mistake and it was the airline’s mistake because they let me board the plane. I submitted a claim but Generali Global Assistance said that they were not going to pay me because this visa documentation was not their concern. But it wasn't visa documentation. It was miscommunication from the government and the airline, which was the sad part. I gave up on following up on this because it was a nightmare to deal with from every aspect of trying to get money back. I ended up losing $10,000 for no fault of my own, even after buying an insurance. The process took me three months and I went back and forth with providing details and providing more details. It was horrible.

Our flight was canceled and we needed to buy the tickets for another flight so it was much more expensive and we still haven't gotten any compensation. We've provided all documentation. Also, customer service replied to us two or three weeks after our request. It's a little bit of a long time. Then, there were too many questions and emails. I needed to explain the same situation three times. Other than that, generally, we have had a good experience with their customer service.

So I fell ill and had a need to file for my trip interruption. It was settled promptly! Unfortunately, I also have a claim for pilferage from my baggage which Delta settled in THREE days! I now await for the settlement from CSA. I had filed this claim separately as I was waiting for Delta airlines to settle. I am sure that CSA will match Delta’s record! I understand that it is the holiday week.

My guest bought their insurance for their stay at my vacation rental home. I claimed damages with all the evidences. Spent lots of days in a week to contact them. 1 month later, they finally asked me my Zelle info for reimbursement. A week later I received a check in a mail instead. It has bounced back with bank fees that I had to pay. It has been 3 weeks since I saw my bank statement showed the bounced check and fees. I still have not received the money.
All they say is - the check got cleared. I've sent them multiple emails of letter from my bank stated bounced check, my bank statements. They say they didn't see my email. They repeat - "The check was cleared, have a copy," "Didn't you sign on the back??" When they finally called me back (when I was driving) Virginia blames on me that I didn't have my claim number with me, she cannot issue a new check. And Virginia didn't see my emails of my evidences. It has been 2 months since I begin to contact them. I reached out BBB yesterday. I am pretty sure they mess things up by themselves and trying to make clients giving up receiving money. Such a bad and rude people works here even supervisor.

We purchased travel insurance for our trip. We had to cancel due to illness, my husband has cancer. We filed a claim. We reached out several times to the company and got NO RESPONSE. This was a bad choice obviously and wish I had done research on a more reputable company.

We purchased travel insurance for protection from unpredictable events that could force a trip cancellation. This is exactly what occurred when the state of California declared that all national forests will be evacuated and closed due to fires. The closure order went into effect on the dates of our trip. California is prone to fires, especially in the area we were supposed to visit. Prior to purchasing the trip insurance through VRBO and Generali insurance, I made sure that mandatory evacuations due to natural disasters (fire) are covered.
After 45 days had gone by I had to contact the insurance company to ask why the claim was not progressing. We had provided the government closure order and more than enough information. The claim was eventually denied without any basis besides the statement that this was not a mandatory evacuation. What is the purpose of trip insurance if not for this exact scenario? This company heel drags and uses tactically vague jargon to get out of claims.

Having travel insurance is important given the current climate. Everything was moving so fast, so I didn't want to be stuck without one to have my travel reimbursed. What insurance companies should do though is if you don’t use it, they should give you a percentage of it back. That would make people more inclined to get insurance. If it weren’t for the pandemic, I would not be buying travel insurance.

We were traveling outside of the country, and with the COVID climate, I thought having travel insurance would be important in case anything happened to us. We wanted to make sure we had coverage if anybody got sick on the trip and needed to be flown back to the US. When I bought the policy, there was an issue with the website and I clicked to pay, and it didn't process. The screen popped up again and I clicked it so I ended up buying two policies. It took Generali forever to refund me the second policy, but I got it back.

I had a trip planned and I bought insurance from CSA. I believe it was $378. I am a senior and also have underlying chronic kidney disease. I cancelled my trip due to Covid and received a full refund from the hotel. I put a claim in with CSA for refund on my travel insurance and they denied my claim. I have had to cancel so many trips due to Covid and I have received refunds from everyone, cruises, plane fare, etc. I am disgusted that this company is being so unfair in the times we are going through right now. I guess it is all about the money for them. Terrible customer service, would never use them again. Susan D

We traveled to Puerto Rico and when we were going back to Alaska, we had four flights to catch. Our first flight was delayed because the airlines had a staffing issue. That delay would have caused us to miss our other three flights. I called Generali looking to see if that was covered and if they would help us get another flight out of there. They didn't. We had to switch airlines in order to make our other remaining flights. We spent $1,000 because of the delay and because of the coverage. We had to buy last-minute super expensive flight tickets. Because of the delay, everything was not reimbursed. We had to then change our other flights, pay those fees, and buy a hotel overnight. I didn't have a great experience with Generali because I didn't get any assistance.
The representative was fine but the information wasn't given up front. It wasn't disclosed to me that if an airline traveled outside of a certain context that it wouldn't be covered. I was being honest with them. I was told only afterward how the flight would have been covered. I wish I had known that prior to using Generali as a fail-safe for the trip.

We were going on vacation in Turks and Caicos and the place required that we had travel insurance. When I did a search, Generali was one of the first ones that popped up that had all the criteria required. Turks and Caicos also recommended them in the top three companies to look at. The villa we stayed at also offered us information on the travel insurance and Generali was number one in their list of options. Overall, Generali came back as one of the top rated companies and that pushed me in that direction.
Generali was one of the better websites that allowed me to pick through different options. I had three tabs open on my browser with the different companies and I was toggling back and forth looking at who's got what. It was really difficult with some of the other companies because there were different options. Generali's website was the easiest to navigate. I just plugged it in and they immediately gave me the three different levels. I could see what I was getting, what it was going to cost me, and how they would different. That just made it really simple. I kept doing the searches on the company because you have no idea what you’re buying because you may not use it. But there were plenty of people who may have had to use it at one point in time.
I would have never considered using Generali if it wasn't for the pandemic and the requirement of the travel. But I found that maybe in the future, I would likely use travel insurance because when you go away and even though you have your own health insurance, it will only cover certain things. If you’re in a foreign country that has limited healthcare options, they may have to send you elsewhere. I read some horror stories of people who had something happen. Somebody had to have dental surgery and there was nobody there on the island to do it, so they had to send them somewhere else. That was covered. If it hadn't been covered, they would have had to pay upwards of $200,000 just to get transported. When I read the binder that came with what I got from Generali, I was surprised at how much stuff they covered. There were things you wouldn't even think of.

We had a college reunion that was supposed to take place in May of last year. Because of the pandemic, I had to call to ask Generali to change the travel date from last year to this year. I couldn't find anybody at Generali and I had to hold on the telephone for a long time. But who has time to wait on the phone for 30 minutes or even longer and get no response? I also wrote to Generali hoping to reach them by email. Finally, I got somebody on the phone who took care of everything. They let me change the date and I had to pay an additional 100. In the end, it was a happy ending. But our schedule was postponed a second time so I had to call again.
