    We are loving the First American Home Warranty service. We've had them for four years ever since we bought the house. And we had our refrigerator, microwave, oven and stovetop go out. So, we've had all of those replaced. And we've also had a window unit in our den go out twice. They repaired the wheels on our dishwasher, and fixed our washing machine twice. And they're replacing glass inside the oven door. We have not had to pay anything out of pocket.

    We have liked all of the contractors that have come out. They're very knowledgeable and friendly people. When they came out to fix the stovetop, they saw the steel on the refrigerator. That is how we ended up doing the claim on the refrigerator because they couldn't get the right steel ordered. They no longer make it for that refrigerator. However, there was one guy that never even came out. It was related to the air conditioner. It was the first time. The guy told First American the wrong information. They ordered the wrong type of air conditioner. And we explained to him, it's a window unit not a hotel window unit. But FAHW corrected it. You need to get them.

    First American Home Warranty is the The worst home warranty company I have ever had. I have had to wait more than a month for repairs. I have had managers lie blatantly to me and then argue with me when they were caught in their lie. The departments do not communicate with each other, And if you file a complaint it goes nowhere. I'm honestly not sure if it's even written down.

    Hello Lawrence. Our records indicate you placed a claim on March 5, 2022 for the kitchen refrigerator not cooling. First American dispatched independent contractor, Home Service Tech, to diagnose the failure. The contractor reported they replaced the defrost thermostat however the unit was still not cooling. The contractor requested the service be continued to a contractor that services sealed systems.

    On March 16, 2022, First American dispatched Nana Services, but due to the contractor missing appointments, First American then dispatched Sears on March 22, 2022.

    On April 8, 2022, Sears reported the receptacle in the wire harness is burnt out and is non-repairable. The contractor recommended replacement of the refrigerator. That same day First American offered a replacement refrigerator and informed you of the estimated availability date of May 27, 2022.

    On April 11, 2022, you accepted the alternate option of a cash payment in lieu of replacement instead of waiting for the arrival of the replacement refrigerator.

    Please be advised, First American considers this claim resolved and closed.

    We had a plumbing issue, a garbage disposal problem and a dryer problem and all those were fixed. We love the people that came. They were good. But some vendors were terrible. They didn’t call and we had to wait all day long.

    My dishwasher pump went out and we had a little bit of a problem with the repairman. But First American intervened and had him call back. The repairman came the next day and diagnosed it. The problem was that a part had to be ordered, and he wasn't good about keeping me informed on that. Then I got a notice from First American that the part was in. So I texted him and asked, “When are you gonna come?” But he wouldn’t return my call for a couple of weeks. So I finally called First American and they got on him. He answered me back that day and scheduled. So it was good. I was really happy with First American's service.

    I decided to try and use my warranty for a plumbing clog. The company they use wouldn’t work around and schedule so I had to take a day off of work to wait for the plumber to show up. He arrived, wasn’t even there 5 minutes and said he has to see if my warranty will cover what needed to be done. Never heard anything back so I had to reach out to First American to only find out they denied the request because “they don’t cover that in my warranty.” I still have to pay the 85$ service charge and on top of that schedule with another plumber and pay them to actually come out and fix the problem! It was a waste of time and money and I would never use it again!

We are always looking for ways to better our service and your feedback is an invaluable part of the process. At this time, our records indicate that on March 31, 2022, you placed a claim for a plumbing stoppage. First American dispatched independent contractor Affordable Leak Detection LLP (Affordable Leak), who reported to First American there is a mainline stoppage in the east side of the home, however there is no ground level clean out to clear the stoppage. Please be advised, First American will clear of stoppage through an existing ground level cleanout and will not install a ground level cleanout. Please refer to your warranty contract under Plumbing Stoppage section, which state:

    “NOT COVERED: STOPPAGES CAUSED BY FOREIGN OBJECTS, ROOTS, COLLAPSED OR BROKEN LINES OUTSIDE THE FOUNDATION, ACCESS TO DRAIN OR SEWER LINES FROM ROOF VENT AND COSTS TO LOCATE, ACCESS OR INSTALL A GROUND LEVEL CLEANOUT.”

    First American considers this claim closed.

    Got an emergency plumbing issue due to clogged the main line. Issue a new service request. Plumber come out and said he can’t do it due to he can’t get up to the roof because of afraid have problem the the roof. Ask to request another company that can do from the roof. Call customer service for a few hours and got Hangup after a few hours waiting to talk to customer service. Can’t wait so I have to call another outside plumber and fix the problem within an hour. FAHW still bill me for service call for a guy to come out and do nothing.

    Extremely difficult to process a claim. First American will replace it if they cannot fix it. However, they will take forever to repair and make your life miserable. I have an existing claim open to fix our refrigerator for more than three months. I have called customer service multiple times. After a 30 min wait, the customer service told us that it would take only two days for the parts. I am in the fourth month and no ETA from First American.

    First American’s service has been great so far. I got my new water heater and the dishwasher shortly after I moved in. So, it was nice not to have to worry about paying so much out of pocket. The only issue I have is the dishwasher that I got really did not work that well. But that’s not their fault. It’s just the product itself. It doesn’t wash well. The tracks are completely off. Sometimes, the soap dispenser doesn’t even open, and that was happening right after I got it. The techs who came were both great. They’re knowledgeable, walked me through everything and they were quick.

    I've been with First American for at least 20 years and I've always loved it. They're prompt and they have always got somebody within 24 hours to contact me. The contacts have always been great too. They have always been on time. I've never had to wait around or worry. Somebody's really going to call. My washing machine went out two months ago and it was more expensive to repair it than to replace it so First American replaced it with a good one. This is as good as the one I had so I was excited about that. My only problem with First American is I'm moving to Alabama and there's not one over there. I can't imagine anything being any better.

    They did my dishwasher a couple of months ago and wound up having to replace the entire thing. The company who came was really nice. That was a really nice process and it went rather smoothly. But this time, not so much. I filed a claim back in March and they had a guy come out on March the 15th. Supposedly, he said that we were going to take a cash offer and First American sent me a letter saying, “Hey, we're trying to get in contact with you. Are you in agreement with this amount?” And I said, “I didn't agree to anything like that. I just want it fixed.”

    I called First American and they were like, “Okay. Well, we'll reach out to the company that came out.” Then I called them back the following week. And they're like, “Oh, yeah. They got it all corrected, so they can order the part.” I haven't heard from them since then. Here we are, April the 15th, and they still haven't come back. So, I'm not really satisfied with First American.

    One day, my oven kept shutting off. I reported it and First American got in contact with a service person. The techs pulled the oven out and said that it had several boards and they took some amount. They said to my daughter that a couple of those boards had been discontinued so they put it all back in and pushed the oven back in. They came back and put a new board in. The oven has been working though it still beeps every once in a while. So far, my claim experience has been good. On one claim, they had somebody come out of Houston. The next time, I had a plumbing issue, I asked them if we could get somebody local, and they did. I was well satisfied.

    As a first-time homebuyer, I prepared to embark on many warranty claims, home improvement projects, etc.. However, nothing could have prepared me for the journey I have started with First American Home Warranty. My first claim was to get my locks changed on my house. I submitted the claim, paid the claim fee, and then waited for my email/phone call to let me know who the contractor would be. Unfortunately, after a few days, I received a phone call from First American about them being unsuccessful in contracting a locksmith to switch out my locks.

    However, I was understanding and appreciative of the lady I spoke with since she refunded me the $85 and informed me that if I could successfully find a locksmith to switch the locks out to fill out the form, the company would reimburse me for my out-of-pocket expenses. While frustrated with the scenario, I thanked her for her time and the accommodation. Granted, I have not had the chance to replace all the locks due to being a full-time student, but I plan to do so this summer when I can call and quote locksmiths.

    My second claim with FAHW has gone significantly worse. While not necessarily on them initially, the way the entire process was handled has been horrid. To explain, the contractor never actually formally scheduled their booking, so they arrived at my house a week later than expected. The contractor never actually introduced himself, he just came in and went to work. So in a matter of 24 hours (really 8 days), I had two red flags but proceeded with the process since the most out-of-pocket expense would be $85. The contractor left, received an email that he submitted the work order for the repair. Seven days later the work order was approved.

    Roughly 6-7 weeks went by and I get an email from FAHW asking about my experience. This is when I realized how much time has went by. I called the contractor asking for an update, but the assistant couldn't even tell me if my part has been delivered nor what the ETA would be. A few hour later she called saying it has been delivered and asked would I be able for them to come out and repair the dishwasher on a Wednesday. I explained that Wednesdays are the one day of the week I am unavailable. Instead of having other dates available, she said she'll have to call me back with a new date and time. Never heard back.

    I waited 7 days, then I called FAHW. Explained my frustration with the entire process and how as a customer I do not feel as if my time, money, and comfort is being appreciated and valued. Expressed how instead of sending me a survey they should have been calling me to follow up about the claim not me having to call them. By the end of the conversation, I expressed and stated my frustration with the entire experience and how I do not want that contractor back in my house and at this point getting a dishwasher is more justified (due to the age and the part being ordered is an aftermarket part). Nonetheless, they still reached out to the contractor even though I had no interest in dealing with them, but they did escalate my claim to be handled by their senior team.

    Come Tuesday, I received a called from FAHW stating they would not accommodate and my only options were to either deal with the subpar contractor or get a new contractor (who may or may not be better) and start the process all over. Once again, I expressed my frustration with the entire experience and how now it includes them because as the consumer, I am being punished for the poor experience.

    By this point I requested to canceled my warranty and get a prorated refund because both service claims I have placed haven't been completed and both have left me disappointed. After speaking with their cancellation department, I learned they cannot honor the request because they used all the money I paid to cover the part. For the fourth or fifth time, they once again tried to force my hand to accept the contractor or start the process over. I declined again because it's not worth the headache nor time and it would be worth the expense to buy a new dishwasher from a big box store since I know I would be appreciated as a customer, which I expressed to the representative.

    By the end of the phone call I was left angry and disappointed, I asked can I at least get my $85 back since at the very least they could do that. Got told no they could not. Ultimately, I ended the call expressing my overall negative experience and how since I have a lot of friends who will be first time home buyers (like me), I will be making sure they avoid FAHW because they will be scammed out of their money.

    Two years ago, I was not pleased with the service for my furnace. I went without it for a Month. Plus, the contractor they sent said they had to do modifications which they didn't. They put a piece of sheet metal and charged me $1,400 extra. We had space heaters the whole month in March. It was awful. But most of the time, service is pretty good.     First American is The WORST homeowner warranty company EVER!!, NEVER sign up with them, and I’ll personally terminate my contract with them after this issue. They’ll make you hate your life, and waste many hours try to reach them out or talk to either a representative or even a supervisor!! I’ve been dealing with this safety concerns for over a month and had the WORST experience ever with First American and their last contractor company “Fox Appliances”!

    My stove dose an explosion sound randomly when I try to use a specific burning eye, it happened 3 time and first time it literally jumped 3 inches from its location!!! They have assigned me 3 different contractor to check same issue!!! As first 2 contractors either recommended to buy some parts and fix the stove or replace it!! Lastly they sent supposedly an “expert”, then the guy they sent came in literally without carrying any single tool!! Did nothing on the stove (not a single diagnostic test) then provided a report to First American that “there’s no mechanical issue”!!

    I talked to multiple managers and asked for a complain email, they said they don’t have and I can just send them a letter over mail! Their resolution is just live with it!!!! Indirectly, wait until it explodes or kill someone so that we can be convinced to fix it or replace it!!! First American is a BIG scam, don’t waste your time or money paying for them!!

    Hello Fady. Our records indicate you placed a claim on February 7, 2022, for your oven range left side making a noise when turned on/off. First American dispatched independent contractor, EuroCare Appliances Incorporated, to diagnose the failure. The contractor informed First American they were unable to fully diagnose and found the burners turning on, they requested the service request be continued to a GE contractor as the appliance is GE.

    On February 18, 2022, First American dispatched Encreso who requested a different contractor be assigned as they were unable to service.

    On March 8, 2022, Fox Appliance was assigned who reported they found no mechanical failure at the time of service. Per the home warranty contract under Limits of Liability Number Three, First American will cover repair or replacement of an item for a failure due to normal wear and tear. You disputed the diagnoses.

    On March 24, 2022, Premier Appliance was dispatched as a second opinion. First American is awaiting Premier’s report.

    First American considers this claim pending.

    Last year, we had a bad experience with the contractor First American sent. It took a long time to resolve that and I was disappointed that they kept telling us they'd call back but they never did. They eventually resolved it to our satisfaction and so we gave their warranty another try. It has worked out pretty well and they really made the effort. They listened to me when I said, "Please don't put me with that first contractor ever again."

    Recently, they got my washer fixed. It was done fairly quickly and it was nice that the techs were out within two days. They sent out somebody who is a contractor for Sears whom we've had before and they were terrific. They knew what they were talking about. They did a good job and didn't leave a mess. So, we were very happy.

We had to wait for parts to come in, but that wasn't their fault. When things go wrong, First American works hard to make it right and that's important. It's is one of those things where once you get it, it makes sense to keep moving forward with the same home warranty people. The pricing is pretty good, but I like the experience I've had with them over the years.

    I like First American. I did a dishwasher, a water heater and some plumbing done to the house thru them and everything was straightforward. Their customer service was good because they were on it. They would call me back if they couldn't get a contractor. They hired people locally, which is good. The people came right out. The first one was the plumbing and I got Dobkins Home Repair. They came out the next day or two, looked at it, and repaired it. They had to contact First American in regards of how much it was gonna cost. After that, I did the dishwasher. They had to replace the whole unit, which is pretty good for me too. I got a brand-new dishwasher. The last thing was the water heater which is a tankless one. It was tricky because those newer ones are difficult. The thing that was burned was the motherboard which tends to be pretty expensive but First American covered it so I was happy about that. The contractor came out the next day or two also.

    I have been a client for close to 3 years. In my opinion the company has gotten worst. The contactors that are being scheduled are sub par. In general, I haven't been satisfied with their work and mostly the repairs required a second visit. This is so inconvenient 'cause I have to take off work to be present. I have made complaints but was told the contractors that are sent out are the only ones that service my area. I will not renew my contract. Then find my own contractors.

    We bought a home in Orlando FL in January 2022. The previous owner had a refrigerator repair work order since October 2021 with First American HW. We were told that the repair would be conducted in early February and decided to prepaid a one year coverage that included everything. The problem consisted of a bad freezer door and ice maker on a Viking refrigerator unit. It is hard to describe the process my wife and I have gone through with this company that sales lies and is not honorable. After multiple calls to customer service and being told a different lie every time they were able to send the parts to the appliance repair company but sent them to Georgia instead of Florida which is not surprising due to FAHW inability to provide quality control at their office. We elevated our concerns to "someone that would help us getting the problem resolved" as described by one of their liars aka customer service reps.

    Fast forward to March 14th 2022 and after not responding to my call and emails the higher up "problem solver" sent me an email apologizing for not replying to my email because she was out of the office. A simple automatic out of the office would have been enough but again I am not surprised because they lie and do not care about customer service. Her email offered $175 to close the order because that is what our ice maker repair parts and labor would cost. She never acknowledged the main problem "The Freezer Door". Her email read "I have reviewed you claim and understand that your ice maker is to be replaced." It is obvious she di not review my case and only scanned over it so she missed the broken freezer door.

    I called to cancel the warranty and was told you'll be charged this and that but I'll gladly pay anything to get out of this business relationship with a company that does not honor a contract and trains their personnel to lie and to avoid replacing an appliance. They should have honored the advertised online quote "If we can't repair it, we'll replace it*" but their business motto is to get your money and not replace units even if a work order takes 6 months to get resolved! Please, please do yourself favor and run away from from FAHW. There are other very reputable and responsive companies out there. Do your homework before signing a contract.

    On the back end, being able to see when the service call was made and having that date information available for homeowners would be helpful. I had a dishwasher repaired but for 90 days I was supposed to contact the vendor but there wasn't a date tied to the claim. To be able to peg down the last date of service which would be when that 90-day period would have started would have been really helpful. It would save everyone a lot of extra phone calls and going around in circles.

    Recently, I had a garage door malfunction. Their online interfaced worked smoothly. I was contacted by the vendor and we got it fixed. As a new homeowner, this warranty was very good. I recommend it.

    Due to a medical need in the house my claim was supposed to be escalated to ensure that it was taken care of quickly. This however did not occur. They did not contact me and placed the onus on me to reach them for any update even after telling me that I would be reached out to by someone from their team. I was then transferred to a very impolite representative who after listening to my issue gave me a very curt response regarding the medical condition and would not allow me to speak when I requested to be transferred to a manager. I was then placed on a very long hold while waiting. I am literally still waiting as I type this... Very unhelpful... Do not recommend.

    January 20th, 2022 my home had a natural gas leak. My wife smelled what she thought was gas, and called the gas company. The gas company verified there was a natural gas leak and shut off the gas to the house. The temperature was under 30 degrees, below freezing. My family stayed in a hotel that night, but the problem is the house with no heat below freezing will cause the water pipes to burst. I called First American Home Warranty to submit a claim for this gas leak which they claim to cover. They sent a plumber out on January 21st, he said he needs authorization from First American, and even if he got it he doesn't have enough time in his schedule to fix it that day.

    First American's contractor said soonest he could be out was the next week. It would have to wait a week in below freezing temperature with no heat. A big emergency. I called another plumber and he came out to fix it right away. I submitted a claim for reimbursement from First American to cover the repair, since their contractor would not fix it in time to prevent my entire home from being destroyed with water. They told me they would not reimburse me and it was not an emergency. A gas leak not an emergency? No heat below freezing temperature not an emergency? Bursting water pipes not an emergency? My choices from this company were let my home be destroyed or have to pay out of my own pocket to fix something they cover.

    I submitted a complaint elsewhere, First American responded by saying "Company will consider it an emergency when failure of a covered Item renders the home uninhabitable; in these instances, Company will make reasonable efforts to expedite emergency service" The home was uninhabitable, due to a natural gas leak and no heat during below freezing temperatures. First American made no reasonable efforts to expedite emergency service. When confronted about neglecting their own policy, their response was " The claim was placed using the online system and was placed as a normal priority." Which it was not, it was placed over the phone, with no option to request an emergency service with their automated system.

    My situation by their definition was an emergency, and they failed to adhere to their own policy. First American denied my request for reimbursement and could not address any of these mistakes they have made. "They blatantly neglected their own policy, and proved beyond a reasonable doubt they did not follow their own policy and chooses to deny a claim covered in their contract regardless of their failure. I would not recommend First American Home Warranty to anyone. Expect to be denied coverage and expect to be neglected during an emergency situation. Expect First American to not follow their own policies.

    Been a member with First American Home Warranty for a couple of years, paying monthly membership and a service fee for EVERY service call request to diagnose the problem. Dishwasher had history of problems, latest being the worst with it not functioning and cleaning the dishes, the electrical panel needs replacement, and other repairable stuff like upper rack broken off, railings loose, bottom tray rusted with broken spokes. With the dishwasher NOT working and electrical panel out of stock due to supply chain issues, this has turned into a real major urgent problem with the dishwasher, that needs to be REPLACED, not delay for weeks trying to push the repair.

    It seems like their escape route is to blame it on the tech and so they will not replace it but somehow try to repair even with extreme delay. They don't listen to you and kept repeating on loop that it can only be repaired. When confronted, they said, if the electrical panel is changed and there are still problems, then there is a CHANCE that First American might CONSIDER the possibility of replacement!!!! This shows complete lack of professionalism, No customer "care" at all. Horrible experience. Why pay this company several times the cost of a new dishwasher for subscription dues when you get nothing in return? Don't waste your hard earned money with them, not worth it.

    I've been pretty happy and impressed with First American. The service was prompt. The repair shops would call right away then come and fix at the appointed time and the appliances are working. I was pretty happy. I was surprised because I was skeptical initially when I signed up. The cost is reasonable and the coverage is reassuring.

    My cousin also had First American and she's in Northern California. She dropped them because the repair people they had contracted with showed up and didn't have the parts and yet quoted her some price beyond the deductible so she wasn't happy. Then she couldn't get ahold of them. There was no follow-up. First American tried to contact them and get them to come back, but it didn't work out. So, First American's success is married to the quality and availability of the service shops in the community. They don't send their own people from the insurance company. That's just an insurance company. That varies a lot because her experience was so bad, but I had the opposite experience in my area.

    Our built in refrigerator has gone out 4 times in the last year and a half, twice in the past 3 months. First American Warranty only provides a 30 day warranty on the work that has been done. After speaking to them about the issues they informed us that we will have to pay the service fee every single time the refrigerator quits working, if it is outside of the 30 days which I understand. However they are not providing us with a long term solution. You're telling me that if the refrigerator goes out every 31 days I will have to keep paying the service charge when they are not willing to fix the actual problem. The refrigerator is 20 years old. They state that as long as they are able to get the part needed they will keep replacing it, and will not consider getting us a new refrigerator. They are only providing us with a band aid for the issue and not a long term resolution. Looking into switching to a different company due to their inability to provide quality services.

When it first started getting hot in the summer, we had air conditioner problems. The company that came out was very good. They had to come out again because there was another issue with the same problem and they came out really quickly. They fixed it and figured out what the problem was where they felt what it was the first time. I also had plumbing issues and the plumbers have been really good, as well.

    Our oven started failing in August 2021. In the first week of December, FAHW said they would replace the oven. The oven they chose is not available so they have finally offered me a cash out option. Unfortunately, the amount is over $1000 below what it would cost me to buy the oven at a retail price, have it installed, and get the old one hauled away. I do not get FAHW's Lowes discount, and since Lowes doesn't have the oven currently, neither do they. All I have asked for is the amount it would cost me to buy the same appliance at Lowes and have it installed and the old oven hauled away. I was told today that I have no other options and that FAHW's offer is very fair. Wow, this has been the worst insurance experience of my life, and I still have no resolution.

At this time First American is researching alternative units comparable to the initially offered one. First American considers this claim to be pending.

    The last time I called First American, it was way better than the year before when it was a challenge for me to understand the accents of the customer service reps. Back then, it sounded like a heavy Indian accent and I don't do very well with that. It was a bit frustrating for me. The last time, it sounded like someone whose English was their first language. So, it was a much easier conversation.

    Every time I've filed a claim, it was pretty smooth. The only time it wasn't was when was for our last call with the plumbing. I wish the vendors were able to schedule me sooner than they were able to. Other than that, customer service has been excellent. I get ahold of someone really quickly. In the past, I've had long hold times and I wasn't able to speak to the people I needed to speak with. This last time was very quick, easy, and just great customer service.

    We had a claim for the water heater and they addressed that. We got a new water heater. But when we had the refrigerator go out, it took six weeks for the repairs, for the possibility of being done, because of COVID. So we went out and we bought a new refrigerator on our own and then tried to negotiate a cash-out. That took about five months. There were a lot of issues on their part.

    They also worked on the air conditioner and it took a little longer for the parts because it was also during COVID, but it got taken care of. First American has been pretty good, except the last couple of years with this COVID. Then it’s been a little more stressful to negotiate stuff with them. But we sort of understand that, because in the prior years, we've had no issues with them. This COVID has really put a whole jinx in everything around here. But otherwise, we've been very pleased with First American.

    I liked First American's price and the stuff that are covered. Some of the equipments are not being covered but then I checked others. There's no big difference on that. I have mixed emotions on their claims process. When I open a claim, they give it to the local contractor and I've noticed that in some cases, they're taking too long. The water heater blew up, and it took about three weeks to get it fixed. I was without hot water for all that time. Apart from that, there were a couple of occurrences, and the repairmen were pretty sharp. They came pretty quickly. Overall, the contractors have been okay. I didn't have any major concerns and complaints. They followed up. A couple of times, they didn't do the job right and they came back and did it right. First American is a good program to have.

    I've had First American on almost every house I've been in. It's always worked out for me in a very positive way. I have to pay for the fee, but it's usually much cheaper than what the repair would have been, depending on what is going on. I’m on very limited income, so $50 a month is hard on me. But it's not near as hard as a few hundred dollars for a repair. Over the years, they replaced my dishwasher, my washer, and my dryer. First American's repair people seemed to be a little more on the ball and a little bit more qualified than I'd had with other companies over the years.

    When I call First American, I can usually get somebody in pretty quick. I'm not waiting a week for something like when I was with the other companies. I've had First American before, and then I switched to different companies over the years. Then I came back to First American because I had had good service with them in the past. Since I've been back with them the last few years, I've had very good service again. Their guys who come out know what they're doing. They send qualified repair people and that's worth a lot. I've been really happy with them.

    We've made a couple of calls to First American and it's been a good experience. The only time we had an issue was when we had an AC repair through them and it took a long time. But after that, everything was fine. Submitting a claim has been very easy. I called last time that we had an issue and they sent me a text message that is some sort of receipt.     I have had First American for 2 years now. Never filed a claim. Recently my hot water heater went out. I called to let them know. Told them by the grace of God I was home went the hot water heater out of nowhere started shooting water out the top. If I had left for work like I was about to my home would have flooded. This happened on the 9th. They hooked me up with a company Circa. They said we will send a technician the 22nd. I called FAHW back and said, "This is serious. I can't wait that long." They "expedited" it but it's been 48 hrs and haven't heard anything. This is not the service I would expect after 2 yrs and no claim. I need help. Better off putting the money I pay in a savings account. At this point I would have 2000.00 in there and could go buy one and install it myself. This is ridiculous. I have no more faith in this company. If my house floods I will sue them!

    For our recent claim, they changed out the thermal switch, but then it ended up bursting. I had to file an insurance claim for that because it went to the ceiling to the downstairs carpet, parts of it. They came and replaced the hot water heater yesterday. I just thought the coverage part was crazy that they cover the tank, but then I still had to pay almost 600, for something with the pipe that connects to the hot water heater, and then the gas connected, and then something else out of the tray.

    The claim process of First American has been really simple. I just make the claim, and then within 24 to 48 hours, somebody contacts me, and they come out and do what they got to do. My furnace went out, so they had to replace a new furnace. I also had some plumbing issues that they sent a plumber out. I had an electrical issue that they had to send somebody out, as well. I'm really grateful for their service because just replacing the furnace pretty much paid for itself. I would not have been able to pay for that out of pocket.

    The policy was transferred to me and for the claim process, I've been told to call the number but I realized there's a website. It’s easier and straightforward, which is what I expected it to be. First American sent me a message that the claim has been assigned to a certain company but the company wouldn't respond back. It’d be good for First American to check with me to see if the company has contacted me. Asking the homeowner to reach out to the company adds an additional step in my process. So, that is a bit challenging.

    My fridge broke down and it almost took me a month to get it sorted out because of various reasons. The fridge broke down in September and it was sorted out then, saying that the starter was replaced. The same fridge broke down in December and it took a month because of the holidays. Also, people that they assigned it to weren't available to do it. It'd be nice if First American knew the companies they're assigning their tickets to, if they can work on it or not and if they have the capacity or not. I'm still to resolve that because I have not been provided any feedback on those claims.

    It took me a long time to figure out what is included and what's not in the policy. The layout of that policy is not clear. If they can make it simple and say that these are the things and appliances that are included and are not, as well as what is required to include them and that if something breaks, it comes out of the policy. They should organize the data a little more clearly than sending it to the customer. It should be visually readable. First American totally did not deny everything or did not come through. When I call them, I can get ahold of somebody. But it takes a while to get them on the phone. And they're still behind on their online ability to communicate. There’s a total need to upgrade their systems and collaborating.

I was assigned to a customer service agent (JR), who assured me she would be stay with me until my dishwasher was installed. I received an email from her on June 7, 2022 telling me the dishwasher was delayed, and the ETA was March 31, 2022. I've reached out to JR three times, on March 21, 23 and 27 and she has not responded. I left a message for the company on this website, and no reply. This is the most dishonest company I have ever encountered. I have been without a dishwasher for three months!! Do not do business with First American!!! I have documents to back this review.

    Original Review: It has been six weeks since I put in a service request to fix my dishwasher and after three service appointments, my dishwasher is still broken. The part needed to fix the issue is not made anymore because my dishwasher is 15 years old. First American has been dragging their feet in replacing my dishwasher. I’ve made numerous calls and been given the run around which only adds to my frustration. It has been a nightmare working with First American and think twice before purchasing insurance from First American.

    We like First American. We've had great luck with them over the years. Generally, we get good service when we call in and everybody we talk to seems to be informed, polite and kind. Also, the contractors are timely. When we started with First American, the deductible was $60 and now, it’s $80. It’s a sign of the times but we live on a fixed income so it makes a difference. Also, we just had some heater work done and we thought we were gonna have to get a new heater. It had to be brought up to code and I don’t understand why they were not gonna cover the cost of upgrading to bring it up to code. Other than these two, we've had absolutely zero bad experiences with First American.

    When I needed a rekey, I went online and filled out a form. I didn't like that I was required to pay my $85 deductible before I could even put the request in there and I didn't understand why it was that way. Then, I heard back from First American that they couldn't find a qualified person to do it but if I could, then I should let them know. So, I made one phone call and the guy was qualified. I sent the information by email and First American approved him. The guy came out and did the work. I paid him, sent the receipt by email and they paid his cost. It was just to rekey because I just moved and there was no urgency in that. So, I was okay with it.     First American's services have been 50-50. Some of their contractors are people that might be just starting a business and need to get their name recognition out and I don't have a problem with that. If they don't know what they're doing, don't tell me something and give me a little bit of runaround. I don't like that. That's what happened with the faucet and the dishwasher. It took too many times to get it taken care of. It's not convenient for the tenant. Their co-pay is a little pricey, but I've paid it.

    The first two times, all they did was rebuild the faucet. This last time, it was replaced, but it was the size for a bathroom sink. It should have been a kitchen. I talked with my husband saying that we'll just do this ourselves because I'm not gonna pay another $85 to come and have them do the job right the first time. I also couldn't get the tenant because they have their own lives and I couldn't get someone to be there. But I've been very satisfied with the major appliances. If they haven't been able to fix it, they'll replace it. Once, I had them pay me out because they were having a sale here in town and I got a bigger dryer for the same price that they were buying me out on.

    We bought a 40 year old home in May 2021. To date, we have requested 3 service calls. To date, exactly zero repairs have been completed through our home warranty. First American sells policies in areas where they have exactly zero contractors, then they have you pay the $100 service call, and you wait and wait, yet never get an actual contractor to come out to even look at anything.

    Most recently, we needed hvac service. We waited 7 days for one company, and moments before they were set to arrive, they called to let us know that we were outside of their service area. We got assigned to another company, and it’s been 10 days at this point. I finally gave up trying to reach them on the phone and drove to their location.

    It’s literally a tarot card reader’s office. I called FAHW back for a 4th time and I was told they can’t help me, and can’t provide any refunds for service calls or for the home warranty they sold me, yet can’t fulfill. First American is a TOTAL SCAM. If you have the patience to actually wait the 2-plus hours to reach a human on their phone system, they barely speak English and are less than zero help. I’ll be filing a claim with my credit card company and the state Attorney General to prevent them from scamming more people in our area.

    We purchased the home warranty for a manufactured home that we rent out. In the past I've taken care of maintenance and repairs myself, but recent health issues have made it more difficult for me so the home warranty seemed like the best thing to do. We're so glad that we had it because the electric forced air furnace in the home stopped running during some very cold weather. We were able to get a service technician the following day and he was able to make temporary repairs to get the furnace running again.     When the temporary repairs failed a week or so after getting the replacement part, the service tech was able to return, install the part and test the system to be sure that it was running properly again.     They used to be ok but now they are horrible. They do not allow online feedback on claims anymore in their system (was able to do this before). We had an issue with the dishwasher and the first contractor came three times and could not fix it. They sent a second contractor who came twice and could not fix it. Every time we had to stay off work several hours. Called FAHW many times (after more than 30 min wait each time) and they said the 2nd contractor has not filed a report to move further. Called the contractor several times but could not reach (answering machine full). We've been without a dishwasher for nearly a month with no resolution in sight.

    Every time I file a claim with them it's denied. Our HVAC system stopped working. I needed my electrical panel and circuit breakers repaired. I put in a work order by phone and contacted their contractor. Contractor could come out for 10 days. He came out on January 17th. He wants to make sure that I have reported to FirstAm to find the new assigned Plumbing Company. I do admire the Real Professional and Caring Heart People in this current world.

    First American has been better than my last home warranty company. I can understand their people a lot better and I feel like they have been able to help me more when I want to have a claim. They're better at getting stuff done. The only complaint I have with them is that there are no contractors in my area so it takes them a while to get one out and they don't want to pay somebody extra for travel if they don't have to. I had a claim for my washing machine a couple of weeks ago and they had to search for two weeks and there was nobody here. It was kind of fruitless that they have to spend extra time searching when I could've just had my washer up and running two weeks sooner. Other than that, they have been pretty great.

    I recently had a 30 year old gas furnace go out during a massive snowstorm that hit Grass Valley CA. The storm was so bad it knocked out power for 72 hours and the roads were shut down for almost a week. The governor of CA had to issue a state of emergency because of it. I am currently a active duty military member and had to go to work as safely as possible. I scheduled for a outside technician to come out as soon as possible since going without heat is a life threatening issue. The technician does his job and says, "You need to replace the whole furnace because the part needed to fix it isn't being made anymore". So I pay for them to do the work and gather all paperwork to submit my claim to First American.

    Turns out you are not allowed to use outside contractors even during a state of emergency. I explained to Customer Service several times that I could not follow the normal procedure because one I needed heat as soon as possible, two scheduling a technician with them would have been pointless because he would be risking his life just to get to my house and three I need to go to work. I don't have a normal job where I am allowed to call out. Even after all of this the contract is the contract with no exceptions which I find ridiculous.

    I will not be using this warranty company again because they are not friendly to US military personnel which I found humorous since they call themselves First American. Also their contract is so stringent and doesn't offer the flexibility to use outside contractors. If I knew that I would never have purchased this home warranty and would have went with another company who allows for this type of flexibility. Furthermore trying to get a manager on the phone or send a simple email to their superiors is next to impossible. For those of you looking for a good home warranty company this is not it. Shop around and make sure your home warranty gives you maximum flexibility. Do not go with First American Home Warranty. Worst service I have ever received and to make matters worse no compassion for your situation.

After you call and you complain and it doesn't work after three times, it's time to replace it but they kept wanting to fix it. You put more money into fixing than it would cost to get a new one. They ended up replacing it but it took so long.

    When my toilet was stopped up and it was an emergency, First American couldn't send anybody out. So, they told me to pay for the repair and they would reimburse me. I said okay and asked if somebody would call me for reimbursement and how to go through that. They took care of it that day and called me with the person that was going to do the reimbursement, and it went smoothly.

    It's to people’s best advantage to keep the home warranty once they purchase a home because stuff does happen. Your house insurance may not take care of it but you can always call First American and they'll send someone out or contact you or you can contact somebody that gives you a contact that day to come out and help. Sometimes they don't come out right away because they just sent a referral. But they always follow up with a phone call to whoever they gave me the job to do. So, I always follow up with that. You got your washing machine, dryer, refrigerator, heating and air conditioning and plumbing. All of those things are things that's going to happen on a regular basis and you can always call First American and for a fee, they'll come out. Right now, they're going up to $80 but it started out a little lower. You know how it goes with inflation or increasing costs but it's still the best buy.

    The claim process is terrible, but I have a specific rep that I email directly since I do a lot of real estate deals. If I go through the regular phone line, it takes forever but the portal is good. There's been one or two contractors that could have been better, but overall, they have been great.     I've had multiple claims and one of the things I hate is how long it takes to get someone here. It ranged from a week and a half to two weeks. Our refrigerator door would pop right back open and I have to put a chair up against it, which then became a trip hazard for us. I told the guy that I thought the refrigerator was possessed by a demon, which I didn't actually mean. But he wrote up the ticket to say I thought my house was haunted and there was a demon in the fridge.

    Then my frustration is that when it doesn't work and I have to say, “Hey, it didn't work,” I get a different company. If the same problems have continued, even though it's 30 days, First American should still send it back to the same one. They're telling people about a problem and these people are asking questions about what the other guy did and there's no paperwork to tell them. Their going based on what I remember is not a good idea. It took four attempts to fix the fridge and the last guy got it the best. I just have to close the door gently and it stays closed after that.

    When I called to put in the claim for the microwave, I said that the door was cracked. They took the ticket and wrote it up. The guy came and said that he'd submit it. First American then called me up to tell me that they don't cover that. That should have been said at the beginning. Then the guy that came said he would send me a quote of what it would cost for me to do it out of pocket, and he never did. So, I'm living with it until it completely breaks, and then I'll replace it.

    I had one issue with the HVAC where it was frozen over. And they asked if it was cooling. I said yes. They didn't tell me to turn it off and let it melt. When the guy came, he said he couldn't work on it frozen. I had to wait another week and turn it off. This was in the summer so we were in the heat. There are pieces and parts that could be better. Nonetheless, I'm glad First American fixes stuff, although every visit is 85 bucks for me. If they didn’t get it fixed, they should come back on that same 85 bucks.

I had to call First American and wait for them to contact somebody, and then I had to get that information. So, if I just called somebody myself and said, "Hey, my heating and air, I got a problem with," I got that person there coming out right away. With First American, it's more of a process.     I very rarely write a bad review. But this one I feel is necessary. First, let me say that I have had First American Home Warranty for well over 10 years. I've had a few hiccups along the way but they were overcome. I recommended that my son purchase a policy and while visiting with him over Christmas holidays his LG refrigerator died Christmas Eve. We have been assigned to 5 different agents, none of which seemed to get anything done. The claim was reported on Sunday, Dec 26. FAHW assigned the claim to Sears with a response date of Jan 7. Obviously, this was unacceptable. They gen assigned GE then Electrolux. NONE of these companies work on LG.

    After several days passed with no refrigeration, FAHW gave approval for us to hire a LG certified company with an alliance of a total amount of $300. On Dec 31, The LG certified technician diagnosed the unit to need a compressor and PCB Board. FAHW is now asking us 1. Before they approve, they need a breakdown labor estimate. This should have been requested from the beginning. The repair company says there s no breakdown. FAHW says can't approve repair..2.Have LG warranty authorization for compressor..we are now in limbo (Jan 5) and nowhere near resolution. Eating every meal out for almost 2 weeks is UNACCEPTABLE! I've referred over 5 people to FAHW. NEVER AGAIN will refer anyone to FAHW.

    I do the app or my wife will make a phone call when filing claims and either one is very easy to use. If there's any feedback, it would be that whenever we set it up, it's faster if we call ourselves and make sure we get an appointment scheduled. Otherwise, we’ll wait several days. The technicians that have come out and the total quality of work have been very good. Generally, the timing has been fast.

    It's just that the best that First American could improve on would be a little bit faster acknowledgement. That way, we're not always calling just to follow up and get the appointment scheduled ourselves. If we set it up in the app, it'd be nice if there was a policy or if it was just a default where someone would be contacting us back within 24 hours. I've seen some apps that allow a person to actually look and see what's available on the schedule, and he would just schedule it right there so he won't have to make a phone call. Other than that, I've had no major complaints and I would suggest others try and experience First American.

    I have submitted a claim and it worked out really well. But when we bought the house, I had to get a new hot water heater. The person that I used was out of Covington, it was R & R. When he came to measure it, he didn't measure that it went in the pan. So he left it like that. The pan is not big enough and he was going to order me one. I called him many times but I couldn't get him to return my calls. So I’m gonna have to get somebody else to come and put the water pan in. First American is great. They'll get somebody there pretty quickly to look at it. If it needs a part, they buy the parts. You have to pay the $85 service call, but that's no biggie. I've had real good luck, except for that R & R Plumbing people they used.

    The communication with First American has been all right. But there had been times where I had to call them for a follow-up more than them reaching out to me. Also, I hope if I open a claim, I would want them to have people that can do the service. That's the problem that I've been having, is in my area, they don't have contractors.     Some of my experiences with First American have been really good, but some of the issues had not been resolved easily. It depends on the value of the contractor they send to you. Some of the contractors have been awesome while some of them, not so. Right now, we have two service requests in for them that have been in since late December, and we still haven't heard from the contractors. It's very difficult to get a person to talk to at First American when you have an issue like this because the automated system isn't working. I go and say the contractor hasn’t contacted us, but it goes into a loop and never gives me the contractors’ numbers. It would be good to able to talk to a person about issues and for First American to make their system more user-friendly.

    Water heater was replaced. Unit installed was not functioning. It was the end of the work day so nothing could be done. After calling the installer who could not provide any information, I called FAHW who advised that it was up to the installer to contact the manufacturer to handle. I advised FAHW that the installer could not provide any information as the technician was working with the manufacturer. Turns out the manufacturer was now treating this as a warranty claim. FAHW offered no support to contact manufacturer. I would have thought that FAHW would step up to resolve this immediately as it was FAHW who made the purchase of the water heater.. Our home went 48 hours without hot water and according to the technician if could have been a week before the manufacturer would have responded. Fortunately the technician was able to handle this as he stated the company normally does not do this.

    This service was started in August and finally finished in December. The initial Service Company sent out didn't have a clue as to how to repair the fan/lights & clock unit in my Cooktop Hood and said so. The Technician from the second company sent out (Beacon Appliance) said he had never seen a unit like mine before (the unit drops down directly from the ceiling) but he made a call or two, researched the unit and had a circuit board ordered. After several weeks the part was delivered and the technician installed it. The unit only worked for about five minutes before quitting. He then ordered the User Inner face (?). After several more weeks the part was delivered.

    The Technician disassembled the entire hood, installed the part and it has been working great the last month. The Technician for Beacon Appliance did a great job and should be commended for the job he did. First American should also be commended for not giving up under difficult conditions as the parts were difficult to locate. Even though the repair took several months I am delighted with the result and very happy I have a Service Plan through First American Home Warranty.

    First American has been very receptive. Sometimes, I feel like it takes a little bit of time to get through because you have to go through all the prompts, but it got a little bit better this last year. Also, if I don't get the service that I need, they're receptive in getting someone that will take care of the problem. Their overall claim process is good. My latest claim was for the backwash valve for my pool that was leaking. I needed that repaired. I did have a lot of difficulties. They had a really bad person that came out. That was the one thing I did not like. The pool repair person was not good. He tried to repair something in the back of his car, put it back on, and then a week later, it was broken again. At the very end, they wouldn't get back to me. First American finally changed them. I was glad to hear that because this other company did a lot better job.

    My pool is doing much better. It was leaking so much it was degrading my cement. The other thing that upset me too was that I paid the $75, but I didn't report it right away. I lost another $75 because I needed the person to come back. After so many months, you have to let them know that it's not working, but I don't go outside to check my pool equipment.

    Another thing is when I got my water heater installed, the company that did it charged me $400. I know they charged to have it taken away, but they charged me some other stuff. By the time I was done, it was expensive and I'm like, "But I have that insurance." So, I didn't understand why I had to pay the $75, then I had to pay the other thing. Then, they said they had to charge me extra for repiping and that wasn't included in my insurance. Now, my water heater broke after three months. I didn't call First American because then I'd have to pay the $75 again and it was still under warranty. If I called the plumbing company, then they're going to charge me.

    So, I finally got to the company and they were not going to come because I'm so far away, but they were nice enough. They did come and they fixed it. It was some type of pilot light that went wrong. I was like, "Are you kidding me? It's not that old." That was kind of frustrating. Overall, the plumbing people that First American has are not that great.

    I had First American on a previous purchase of a home and I figured I would just stick with them. Submitting a claim can be easy at times, and like pulling teeth at other times. There have been times where we've had disagreements over who was responsible for the claim and what they were gonna pay. Let's say there's a plumbing leak. Common sense tells that the drywall, in addition to whatever was leaking, should be covered. Well, they don't do that. Then every time I call somebody, it's someone who doesn't speak very good English. If they're an American company, then hire someone who speaks English. But the contractors that they've sent have all been great.

    Been waiting over 2 months the replace 2 failed toilets. After waiting this long and endless hours of waiting on hold and broken promises, they offered $20/toilet as settlement! Total fraud!!! The contract repeatedly said they would take care of it and never did. The First American agents kept promising that would get it taken care of would call back within 24 hours. Each time no one called back. Probably called at least 15 times and average time on the phone over an hour!!! What an insult to ultimately be offered $20/toilet when the policy requires the toilet to be replaced and installed or a fair cash out!!

    Most recently, our furnace wouldn't turned on. I assumed it was a pilot light, but it was something else. The tech was very accommodating, gracious, swift and competent. We were certainly pleased with that. But there was a bit of confusion at one point that annoyed me a bit, because I called and I got this automated process and they want to know what appliance my issue was. And I said, "It's not an appliance. It's the furnace." "But what appliance was it?" It kept recycling and recycling. Finally, I placed a second call. And I think I must have pushed 0 or something, got to talking to somebody. And then we cleared it up.

    So, the automated service didn't really capture what I was trying to accomplish. Also these days, it takes longer to see a contractor. The first notice I got was two weeks. I said, "But we don't have heat. The furnace isn't coming on." Happily, the temperature wasn't below 30, and so we didn't really freeze. But I didn't know that in the month of November how cold it would get, and so I was a little put off with that.

    Called the company and had a response the same day. Next day the plumber assigned to my claim visited my house and have the veredicto water heater was too old has to be replaced.     I have First American Home Warranty (premium coverage). My furnace/heater stopped working last week and only blows cold air. I called to have it fixed. They assigned Kravets company. The guy came first and said there was no gas line and that I needed to contact the Gas Company to have installed. This was false because it previously worked without any problem. I again called FAHW to complain because I believe Kravets filed a false report in order to deny my claim. I requested a different company and they resent the same technician.

    This time, he said he was wrong and it was a circuit board of the furnace. FAHW called me today and said based on the report, they cannot cover it or repair it. I bought FAHW to exactly cover this kind of problem. I don't know what else they would cover then. Why would anyone buy a home warranty when they can even cover a simple problem like this? I saw their advertisement, "if we can fix, will replace it". Is this a case of false advertisement?

    First American apologizes for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your claim and thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We are always looking for ways to better our service and your feedback is an invaluable part of the process. At this time, our records indicate that on November 8, 2021, you placed a claim for your air conditioning and heating not turning on from the thermostat. First American dispatched independent contractor KRV CO INC (KRV CO) to diagnose the failure. KRV CO reported to First American that there is no gas coming to the furnace through the gas line and recommended you contact the gas company.

    On November 30, 2021, you informed First American that the gas company reported no issues to the gas supply. As such, First American recalled KRV CO back to the property to diagnose the failures. On December 1, 2021, KRV CO reported to First American that the zone control system control board is not working and needs replacing. First American denied the claim as the zone control system is not covered by the warranty contract. You may refer to your warranty contract, AIR CONDITONING section, which states:

    “NOT COVERED: HUMIDIFIER/DEHUMIDIFIER SYSTEMS OR ACCESSORIES, ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANERS, GAS AIR CONDITIONERS, UNDERGROUND OR OUTSIDE PIPING AND COMPONENTS FOR GEOTHERMAL OR WATER SOURCE HEAT PUMPS, COOLER PADS, ROOF JACKS OR STANDS AND SYSTEM MANAGEMENT OR ZONE CONTROL SYSTEMS (WHETHER MANUAL, ELECTRONIC, COMPUTERIZED OR PNEUMATIC).”

    Please be advised, First American’s decision remains unchanged and considers this claim closed.

    The most annoying part of the claims process with First American was the automated system of filing it. But beyond that, it was smooth and easy. I like that the reps communicated during the whole process. I was getting text messages and emails, and once the vendor called me, I could tell they've already contacted First American Home Warranty. The whole step was being communicated, which the type of person I am, I loved it.

    My refrigerator needed to be repaired and there was a process that the repair guys were trying to go through. I disagreed with their original diagnosis and I had to call them out three times to get it fixed. But they were happy to do it and First American happily backed it up. There were no problems in the process, except it wasn't fixed the first time around. But on the First American side, it was good. They had to schedule somebody to come back out and it worked out well. My schedule was jampacked so it took a lot longer than it would have. The three visits ended up taking a month because I was not available to meet anybody.

    I had some miscommunication issues a couple of times. I would get this information, First American would tell me one thing, and then the people that I was dealing with haven't called me. I was reaching out and I was on hold for a long time although I didn't know if it was because of COVID. It took a while for the claim to go through like my air conditioner that went out at the beginning of August and I didn't get a unit in till about October, which was due to the person that they sent. He made racist comments towards me and my husband like, “Can y'all afford this service fee? Is there any way that y’all can send somebody else?” Then he made comments like, “This unit is so raggedy. Why do you still have this unit? But I'm not going to tell them to replace it because insurance companies don't like to replace stuff. They put Band-Aid on them and that's what I'm gonna do.”

    I called First American and told them that I don't want to use him anymore as he was very rude. They said that unless we do the process over again and charge me another $85, I'm gonna have to use that company. I was very upset with First American because they should waive the service fee and get somebody else as I had a bad experience, but then they said they reached out to the company.

    The company called me back and they apologized and that the person's an old guy, set in his ways. Well, that was unacceptable. If they're sending him out to people houses, we don't have to accept his ways. They promised me that they would make this up to me. They got the part in the warehouse, they would just let the insurance company know about the part and that they could expedite my service. Then they went to a sales pitch saying that since the unit is so old, we should buy one from them and just get a discount from them. I kept saying no. Then every time I called to get an update part, they said that the insurance company was not getting the parts in time.

    When the person finally came back out, he was three hours late from the appointment time, saying that he went to get the part and he was told that the part wasn't in. But then as soon as he got back to the office, they told him the part was in and the lady there made a mistake on the numbers, so he had to go back and get it. He put the part in and the air ran about 30 minutes and he left, and I said, “The air is not working anymore. You just left here.” He told me he would see if he could get somebody to come back out. But then again, I had to wait for another appointment for that. Then they came back and they couldn't believe they missed things. They've been out three times and then they said that there's a hole in this unit and that it has to be replaced.

    So then I had to go through the process again. They have to do another report. The insurance company had to approve that the unit be replaced. I have to wait on the unit then get an appointment. My appointment was a month out and they finally replaced it. They told me to buy a wall unit and they'll reimburse me $150. I did that, but with the way my house was made up, one wall unit would not cool out a 1,900-square-feet home in the middle of August. I had to call several times and resend the receipt to several people. Finally, the last person I sent the receipt to, sent the $150 refund on the unit. But the unit I had was $1,300. They then said that we've got to pay them 800 and something dollars because the insurance won’t cover that part. By time I got the unit, I don't even need it because it's fall now and so it’s cool. Overall, it was the worst situation ever. I’ll never use those people again.

I also had an issue with the air conditioning and I was a little disappointed to learn that only when air conditioners break down, First American pays for them. But then filing claims was pretty simple either through the website or through the phone.

    I have no problem submitting claims because I go through my sales rep, which is the easiest way for me. I know him well. During the pandemic, I had a terrible experience with a vendor that was sent for my air conditioning. First American was having trouble getting any vendors and the guy came from way out of the area. The first time he came was in May and he came back for the fourth time in July. The AC was never fixed. Then, he said he didn't have time and he couldn't fix it. So we went to someone else here in town who was good. I finally got my air conditioning in September the 9th. So, I went through the whole summer without air conditioning system in Redding, California.

    My sales rep gave me an allowance to get a portable air conditioner that I could put out. My son helped me, so that I could have one room in my living room to be cool. I have been taken care of well by First American and it's not the company's fault of what we went through. This whole pandemic threw everything in a crisis as far as finding experienced people to do anything. The experience has been very good and First American had treated me excellent so I have no complaints whatsoever about them.

    I had a couple of dealings with First American and they've been pretty good. But our last claim was a little bit different. Our pool broke and it was in the middle of storming time, so there were all kinds of stuff getting in the pool and it wouldn't run. First American told me that someone would get ahold of me within 48 hours. That was the norm so we thought everything was going to go through like everything did before. Come Thursday, no one called us. We had the phone number of the people that First American referred to us to because they said we could call them if they didn't call us.

    On Friday before closing, we called and no one answered so we left a message. No one returned our call. I looked up the company and the reviews were horrible. They were located three hours away from us and that was probably why they were not calling me. On Monday morning, I got on the phone with the warranty place and told their rep, "Look, this isn't right. We should have had a phone call by now. We haven't. There had to be someone closer by. The rep said they had to send someone that they were contracted with.

    I told the rep that I didn't want that company out here. She said she would see what she could do and would call me back. But I didn't get a call back on Monday or on Tuesday. I called again and said I needed to talk to someone. Our pool was a disaster and it was going to get worse and harder to clean. The rep apologized but said that they had to go through the process that they go through. But the process where someone was supposed to call me within 48 hours did not happen.

    Finally, First American said that they were going to send those people out because they were the only people that they could get out. When I asked about their reviews, the rep said they don't base their reviews on Google reviews. They send people out to make sure the customers are happy and First American follows up. The contracted company ended up calling us and they were really nice on the phone. A guy called me to say he was coming and I told him that the directions here on Google Maps are really difficult and people get lost all the time. The guy showed up perfectly on time, checked things out, and fixed our pool. He knew what he was doing and I was very pleased with the service.

    Things worked out very well in the end but what we had to go through to get that to happen was ridiculous. The communication was horrible. First American needs to make sure the communication is there. That's big. We've had three different instances that we used them and they did well. This one with the pool happened to be a fluke. I'm hoping our next experience is going to be a good one.

    With First American, I get a tech out here quickly if there are some issues. And since I pay monthly, I have just a service fee and I already know what's covered and what's not covered in the policy. I'm a happy customer. The pool is the main reason why I still have First American. We've had issues with the pool pump before and it went back and forth. They're finicky and getting someone to come work on it is hard because I live in a small town so, we're limited. Also, replacing a pump is thousands of dollars but most of the time, it's not the pump that needs fixing but the little joints in there.

    I have dealt with this company for 4 years now, and fortunately have not had to deal with them a lot. However, every time I have like today, it's like a dog chasing its tail. You never ever get same day service even if people in your home are ill, and they use bottom of the barrel contractors for the most part, or upstarts that need business. When this fiasco is over, I am seriously going to research other companies. I am sure they are all competitive price wise, but hopefully offer better service. When you call a contractor as you are supposed to, and no one is there to even answer the phone, Houston we have a problem.

    We had a claim for our toilet and it was for the mechanism inside the tank. The person came and it took him 10 minutes to do the inside of the toilet. He walked out, came back, and fixed it. Then I tried to tell him that brown stuff was dripping on the back of the toilet. He said he couldn't do anything about it and that it looked like urine. I told him that I've got grown men in the house and there was nobody peeing on the wall and it was running behind the tank. He looked, but he didn't bother to figure out what was wrong with it, and he left. I didn't pay $85 because nothing ended up getting repaired with that.

    Every time we have a claim, it's less straightforward than going directly to a repair person. But we've always managed to get what we needed to be done. There was a claim that was frustrating when the freeze happened and our pool equipment wasn't covered. But then we had successful claims like when we had a dishwasher that wasn't working and a stovetop that wasn't working, and the repair person came out and fixed both at the same time. I love the fact that if I have more than one item that falls under the same repair category, it's only one visit.

    The other one that was the most astonishing was when our utility room refrigerator went out and they replaced it and it was 25-years-old. The replacement wasn't exactly what I would have picked, but refrigerators are not being made like they used to. Then it was one of those where I could take this refrigerator or I could take the money. At that point in time, trying to get a refrigerator was next to impossible, so I chose the refrigerator. It took the company three times to actually deliver it, which got very frustrating ‘cause I was off of work and didn't have schedule. For two times, they didn't show up and they didn't call. Then after they delivered it a month later, I got a call out of the blue and they were trying to deliver another refrigerator. I told them that they already delivered mine.

    I've had some hiccups, but those were outside of their control. One thing that is difficult is when you call them, it's going to be a long phone call. If they could institute something where they'd say that they'd call back and leave your number so that you're not hanging out on the phone waiting for them to pick up. The last time I called them, there was not that option. Other than that, it's always been a comfort to know that a big expense wouldn't come up and I could pay my monthly premiums and First American would take care of me. We had a Sub-Zero that went out, and Sub-Zeros ridiculously expensive. We didn't get anywhere near close to what a new Sub-Zero would cost, but they gave me a lot more than what any other home warranty would have given. I was able to find a built-in that we had to chip in a bit, but nowhere near what we would have had to, otherwise.

    Been trying for several months (since 06/17/21) to have our trash compactor repaired or replaced. First American Home Warranty (FAHW) chose the contractor Montezuma Appliance (MA) instead of the Sears technicians. MA's assessment was that the compactor needed a new foot pedal. After over a month waiting, Nope, now the tech said it needed a new basket, Crickets for over a month, then FAHW calls and MA's response was that they ordered the wrong part. Now the compactor has completely quit with the compaction ram stuck in the basket preventing the door from opening with stinking rotting garbage inside with no way to remove the trash from the basket. I had to remove the unit from the kitchen because of this.

    Again no follow up as promised by FAHW on 11/17/21. So here we are with no compactor and only one 96 gallon refuse container which it costing us more money every week for extra trash bag collection. The contractor that FAHW chose is giving FAHW a black eye. I have told FAHW on several occasions that their selected contractor is unreliable. FAHW has served me well in the past but certainly dropped the ball on this one, one that I'll remember when it comes time to renew our contract.

    The original service took place on 10/11. Over a month later I still have no answer from First American on fixing it. I have contacted the company they contracted with to fix my problem and they told me they have tried to reach out to First American on 3 separate occasions and have never had any of their messages returned. I also called First American and a person (who was very difficult to understand and communicate with) told me that it would take 8 weeks to get the part in but could not tell me if First American had ordered the part or not. I am thankful that this did not happen in the heat of the summer but I want this resolved. I have paid my annual premium and the service charge for this particular problem and I expect it to be fixed.
