First American has been really helpful in working with me when we had any issues. Even if the initial contractor didn't work out, we resolved any issues. And the systems that they came out to repair have been good. There has only been one that we've had an issue with.

Submitting a claim was pretty good. I thought the process was fairly easy. I was surprised. My call with the claims representative went pretty smooth. I told them what the problem was, they gave me a name of a local contractor, I called him and they said they'd be out within 24 hours and they were. I thought it was a very good experience...

My broker was the one who told me about First American. She had used them in the past and had pretty good luck with them.

When I bought the place, I asked for a home warranty and they selected First American, and so I've used it since six years ago. It’s always been great submitting a claim, never had a problem. It’s just very simple. The claims representative was excellent. They've been extremely positive up until now. I just recently had called somebody up because our dishwasher wasn't working and it’s been several weeks. They told me that they were going to try to get the part and it might take 5-10 days. I have never heard from them again. I've left a phone call for them to let them know I was going to be out of town, so I think it’s been like 5 or 6 weeks and I still have not heard back from them.

I first heard about First American through the real estate company. I have no particular reason I chose First American over another provider, it’s just everyone’s talking about them. My experience when submitting a claim has been great and easy. Claims representative has been good. Just the turnaround time is what’s so great, and the people that work are awesome. The air conditioner people have by far been the best; they’ve all be good but they went above and beyond. If I would summarize my experience with First American in a few words, I would say it’s the lifesaver.

We submitted three different claims with First American. We had an AC issue, a sink issue, and a garage door issue. The claims process was pretty easy and the representatives were great. They contact very good subcontractors. It has been excellent but it would be nice if there's like a policy review of what we currently have. If we had known of other options, we wouldn't mind paying a few dollars more a month to get more things that would have been covered. We realize that we don't know what we have or don't have until we actually had to submit a claim.

I have had this home warranty service for 6 years. They have the worst customer service. You are placed on hold for over 30 minutes. They sent someone to repair my air conditioner and his response to the call was "there is nothing I can do". And left. The air conditioner clearly does not work. If you set it for 75 degrees it runs nonstop and never gets past 85 degrees. The company that came out no longer even works for them. Then they dispatch a company that does not even service our area. Then they dispatch another company that is 2 1/2 hours away. I call them and they say they have not even been dispatched so I call FAHB again and they tell me they are dispatched. And the representative has the nerve to ask me what I want her to do.

I am beyond frustrated. Am to the point that I am ready to take them to court. Someone also commented a class action suit should be made against them and I totally agree with them. If you have them as your home warranty service and have not needed to use them, cancel your policy with them and go with someone else before you may need repairs. When you rate them you have to mark at least one star and they do not even deserve that.

I am here to help people make decisions about home warranty companies. Please DO NOT use First American. They are a scam and I would love nothing more but to run them out of business. We purchased a home and the warranty came with the purchase. Since moving in, my dryer broke because of the excessive debris in the wall vent, which first American SPECIFICALLY does NOT cover. Then my sprinkler system was not working, which first American does not cover. Then the top of my electric cook top cracked, which first American does not cover because it was not due to "normal wear and tear. " And finally most recently, my AC went out on the Sunday of memorial day weekend in which we were hosting a large party, so I had an AC repairman come out on holiday pay expecting first American to reimburse the cost because I know my AC is covered under my warranty.

I spoke to customer service representative who informed me that first American does not reimburse for repairs. So my $450 AC repair that should be covered by first American is left for me to cover because they have no company morals and no desire to keep their customers happy. First American would have to BEG me to renew my contract with them because I believe they are more trouble than they are worth. Good luck with your home warranty decision. Please look for a company that will honor their contracts and support you in a time of need.

When I submitting a claim, such as our washing machine, it was a quick response. They're either out the same day or it takes at least a day to get them out, and they're able to fix it quick, and it makes me not need to mutter obscenities under my breath. It was a great experience. I've never had an issue, I've never had to wait longer than expected to get the situation resolved.

We purchased our home about one year ago and have submitted about a half dozen claims in that time. Almost without exception we are eventually told by First American that they cannot find a contractor, and instruct us to find our own contractor (and if cheap enough they will reimburse us later). If finding a contractor is part of their function, then how are we expected to be able to find one when we work full-time jobs? What if we don't have the money to pay upfront? What is my $60 per month really getting me? When we do call we are invariably on hold for 20 - 30 minutes, transferred multiple times to "other agents," and ultimately we go in circles until somebody hangs up on us. We have 3 claims outstanding now (one of which is more than two weeks old) and we cannot get anything at all done with it when we call because of the aforementioned problems. As of right now we feel like we are being ripped off. We are going to change home warranty companies if possible.

In fairness, have to say once I posted my complaint against First American, (thank you consumer affairs.com) I was contacted by a live customer service representative who apologized for excessive wait times and getting hung up, and had already arranged for a contractor to get my garage open the next day (rather than wait 4 days as the original assigned contractor suggested.) When I told First American's rep I had my own contractor arranged to come that day, they offered that I could submit my bill for review for at least a partial reimbursement. I canceled my contractor and waited until the next day for First American's contractor who was competent and courteous. I also appreciate that the customer service rep called to follow up and has given me her phone and email should I have any issues in the future. Fair is Fair, and they made good got my car out of the garage with a day, followed up and I am now satisfied.

I have been a customer of First American Home Warranty for 26 years, have recommended them even to my children but will not be renewing my contract or theirs. The last two times I need to make a claim, I had to hold for 15 or more minutes. I used the online claim but the contractor for my garage door can't come for 5 days and my car is stuck in there. I held for 13 minutes and operator answered and said their system was down, so I held for 27 minutes and then the operator could not hear me. There is no way to contact this company to speak to anyone without waiting over a 1/3 hour. I am done, will not renew and will find an alternative insurance company.

It has been handled efficiently, effectively and with complete satisfaction. The only downside is that they have never been able to find anyone in Victoria. They always have to send someone from cities far away - Corpus Christi, El Campo or places like that. But the people that have provided services have done good work for us and we're very satisfied.

After writing the review, Stephanie of claims resolution contacted me and at that point she worked to resolve the claim. The company agreed to pay for the new condenser and a relay. I would rate that a "5". The technician was experienced and nice to desk with, even coming after hours for the installation. Again, a "5". It took from the end of May to the first part of June to complete the work that's unacceptable and I would rate that a "1". We waited 2 weeks for a part that we were told would take 3 days to get. The parts company have relays in stock and is within 10 miles of our house. Also, the AC company did not return voice mail or email messages for days.

    Original Review: June 2, 2014

AC went out and contacted FA since the unit was running but just blowing hot air. Tech came out a few days later and in 10 minutes was finished. Ran water on outside unit and told me to clean the coils myself since he didn't do that sort of thing - he considered that maintenance and he doesn't do maintenance. He told me if that didn't work, call him back, but he didn't know what he would do because he couldn't find anything wrong. I cleaned the coil but the temperature continued to rise.

I have an illness and the heat can be dangerous to me. I called another company that night to come the next day Saturday. They diagnosed a bad compressor, but FA doesn't accept outside reports. So now they are sending the original tech out who can't diagnose the issue. Two weeks without a diagnosis using FA. Poor.

I contacted First American in early May for my air conditioning blowing warm air. They had a contractor (Heating & Cooling Inc) dispatched to address the issue. The technician showed up in a unmarked vehicle and no visible badge. He spent about 40mins working on it and put new refrigerant into the unit. 1 day later the system failed again. This process repeated for 5 visits over the next few weeks. Heating and Cooling never provided any documentation to me or the warranty company about their visits. On the third visit, the tech said he was going to report the outside unit needed totally replaced because it was "end of life". Next visit, tech came out to repair, not replace. I called and reported my issues to both companies with no action from anyone. I have a 6-month old son and wife that have had enough of this heat and it's just the beginning of summer.

So First American went to another company that was supposed to be here today and they have yet to call me or return any of my many voice mails. First American said they have spoke the company and assure me someone is coming out. I am beyond frustrated and upset my family and I have to endure the heat in our home. First American did offer $150 to buy fans or window ac units but denied my $139 fan claim that I submitted to them. I have contacted the Ohio Attorney General, local news stations, and a lawyer to get help. First American is in clear breach of contract and they are refusing to just have the unit replaced. I have missed hours of work and now a entire Saturday. I have no idea what to do next. They are an awful company and I will never suggest anyone using them. I will also continue to report negatively on any website or social media that I can. Awful company! If my AC unit is not end of life, I would like to see one that is. In addition, since there have been so many service calls, the outside unit has not been put back together properly. I have nothing positive to say about any of these companies, it is the worst customer service I have had in my life!

I’ve been with American Home Shield and they raised their prices, so I thought I’d check around and check your prices and you were a little bit more reasonable on the house calls. They were 175 and you take 65. They took the claim good. It was getting it filled that was the problem. They had to keep coming back and coming back and it was just a mess. I was without my refrigerator in the house for almost a week and it seemed like I had a lot of problems to get my refrigerator fixed. It got fixed but it just took a while. We'll just see how it works the next time I need them.

Even though my appliances were new, they have had some use so I figured some kind of protection would come in handy. My realtor got the home warranty for me. He gave us three choices to pick, but she picked First American and we just went with it. My experience with them was not the best but certainly not the worst. Most of the home warranty companies work in a certain manner and I've had few claims submitted so far. The first one we had plumbing issues and nobody followed up. We phoned First American and they said the claim was closed. Nobody showed up but their record shows the work was completed. I'm not sure how that happened. The second time, I called them with AC; they did follow up and the problem was taken care of.

It was fairly easy to submit a claim and most of the paperwork is done by the contractor. The claims representative was not the friendliest but there's nothing in particular to complain about. They're open late in the evening so I have a chance to call them up from work. They had some caveats in terms of what they had to offer. I did not find that certain things aren't until the claim was filed, so I had to pay more from pocket. Had I known earlier, then I probably would have an expanded coverage. If I had gone to another warranty company, I'd probably be facing similar issues. The experience with them has been helpful and frustrating.

Interacting with their claims rep has been excellent. The only thing that I would probably change if I could: If a person came out, you only have 30 days to have the person come back out if you have any problem. Well, if like on the 35th day, I have an exact same problem, but I only have a 30-day period, they would have the person come back out without additional charge. I would probably lift that to at least 60 days, because 30 days is certainly not enough time. It should last longer than 30 days. But overall, it’s very good company. I would highly recommend.

To say the least, I am extremely disappointed in this home warranty and consider it a waste of money and will be letting the masses know on social media sites what a rip-off and play on words your associates use to get out of what should be covered by your brochure. The company should be ashamed of itself as it uses unethical tactics and wordsmiths to get out of covering home issues

I have a blockage in my kitchen sink, to which we called your company who promptly sent out the plumber. The plumbers evaluation required that 7 ft of pipe be replaced due to rust, corrosion and sediment build up in the pipes. He called in the claim which your company denied because it was not specifically listed under the plumbing covered section. It was also not listed under the not covered section of the contract as not being covered. The warranty has a general statement that it covers unknown conditions which can include rust, corrosion, sediment problems but was not specific to what it actually covers.

The agent said that for blockages only snaking and hydro jetting is allowed, but the contract never states that plumbing stoppages are only limited to those 2 actions and once again, it is not mentioned under the not covered section of the stoppages. I have one area of the contract that states I am covered by unknowns conditions which can include rust, corrosion and sediment buildup which is not specific to anything. A plumbing stoppages section that states that they can use snaking and hydro jetting but it is never stated that it was limited to just those two actions for stoppages and the not covered section never mentions that replacing pipes because of sediment build up is not covered. Additionally, the plumbing covered section speaks to leaks and breaks with replacement of pipes but in the not covered section. It never mentions that replacing pipes due to buildup causing stoppage is not covered nor does it default to the stoppage section even though your contract states it is. It makes no sense to have a leaking pipe which causes damage replaced but a corroded pipe which also causes damage is not replaceable.

Once again, your tactics for not covering items which should be according to your warranty is both unethical and you should be considered thieves. I will warning other potential buyers of your warranty not to waste their time and money via social media sites, and am very disappointed in which this was all handled.

We purchased our house less than 2 years ago. The sellers paid for First American for the first year. We had a few claims pertaining to a/c and the service was adequate. When it came time to renew, we thought the product was worth the money since the house was built in 1995. Now, we have an issue in our bathroom from the previous owner's lack of competent contractors. When the bathroom was torn apart for a complete remodel, we noticed that the Jacuzzi tub was not plugged into a GFI. You can only see this when the tile surrounding the tub and shower were torn down.

We also found out that the Jacuzzi is on the same circuit breaker as the air conditioner and alarm system. We called First American Home Warranty and they sent out an electrician. He said that to put in a new GFI and a new circuit will be covered. That was 1 1/2 weeks ago. Today, we get a call saying that it is not covered. What changed??? Why did my husband have to make the call to find out where the electrician was? Why weren't we called to inform us of the change? The amount of money we spend on this company monthly is not worth the lies. I think I will be calling to cancel my coverage and contacting their biggest competitor.

To make a long story short, the repair person burned off the furnace and had to rebuild it. They broke something in the heat pump and I had to wait for those repairs. It ended up that it was January before everything was put back together. It was miserable, it was cold and I was very frustrated. But it wasn't First Americans fault, it was the contractors; the people that came out to do the repairs. They need to be more careful about who they hire to do the repair work and they shouldn't have done business with that contractor. This spring, my stove microwave blew up but it was taken care of and I'm very happy about it.

We had three different service calls come out regarding sump pump. First two times (same contractor), we were told nothing was wrong. They also gave us a hard time because they didn't want to reinstall the cover (we have small children so it's a safety issue). Finally the last contractor (just a month or so later) acknowledged it needed to be replaced. We 'settled' with First American so we could have our own contractor replace it. They deducted money from the refund to pay their contractor even though we already paid the service fee directly to them. Then we get a letter that we owe them for the first contractor- not sure why they didn't charge us at the time (maybe because it was their second visit and they did not do or find anything), and that they are going to send us to collections if we don't pay it within 15 days, despite no previous attempts to contact us about this. Not planning to renew our contract.

We contacted First American customer service and were advised by the answering service that claims couldn't be submitted until 12/27, and they couldn't get anyone out to look at the heater before 12/27 at the earliest. (The wait recording says that service is available 24/7). Maria advised that we should get the heater taken care of and to submit the claim on 12/27, which we did. We were fortunate enough to get a local plumber on Christmas eve. The heater was not repairable so we had to replace it at a very reasonable cost. We did as directed by Maria, however, when we submitted the invoice we were advised that we weren't covered because we didn't receive prior approval. Not only did First American not provide service as contracted they initially denied the claim. When they finally did agree to some reimbursement, it was well below industry standards.

In addition, there was no speaking to the "claim adjuster" it was only through email. What kind of customer service is that? She would leave voice mails with no call back number. There was no way of contacting her other than email.

I do all my claims online and it's streamlined and has a quick turnaround. My interaction with the claims representative was great. They're really good and very informative.

I had First American several times and they've always selected the people that did a good job. The people that owned this house before me had it when I took over the house and I just continued the policy. When you call them, they usually get back to you pretty quick. You can get a claim if somethings are not working and you can call them at the office. It wasn't difficult at all if you know how to talk. And then they call somebody else. Somebody comes out to check and fix it. My interaction with the sales rep has been good. I had no problems with any of them.

My experience with First American was good. One of their customers recommended them. They've had good luck with them and they got one, so I decided to get one. Submitting the claim was frustrating at first because I couldn't get a hold of anybody, but then afterwards everything just fell into place. It took about two weeks to finalize everything. I called and talked to two or three people in the process of getting a washing machine replaced and each one was helpful. I'm glad I had it because I wasn't expecting the washing machine to break down and it's terrible to go without one.

I'd recommend the home warranty... but not the recent experience I had with a contractor: We got a home warranty with our home purchase and have been very pleased with the services we've received, up until this last time. We had a fan motor blow in our air conditioner and we were assigned Jay Jay Mechanical in Harrisburg for our services. This contractor is horrific.

Day One: (First vacation day I used) He never called me, so I ended up calling him around 4pm. He said, "Oh, I was just about to check my email" and ended up coming out that evening. He informed us we had a bad motor and that our a/c needed to be serviced, which was not covered by the plan. He said he had ordered the part and would be back the next day to install it.

Day Two: (Second vacation day I used, so that I could be there while he installed the part) He never called or showed up. After several attempts to call him, he finally called me back around 4pm and said that he had just gotten the approval from you all to order the part and had just done so (considering the contractors prior to that had been able to get immediate approvals from you, this was fishy) and would be at my house no later than 11:30 the next morning.

Day Three: (Third and last of my available vacation days) No call and no show by 12:30, I called every hour until 2:30, when I finally got a call back. He said "I am on my way and will be there by 3:30 - but I have a Dr. appointment, so if I don't get there by then, it'll be 4:30". I informed him that this was the last of my vacation days, so the work had to be done. At 5:00pm, when I hadn't heard from him, I began calling again. He finally showed up to my home at 5:45, ensuring that I had completely wasted my last 3 vacation days at work, which I had planned to use next month for a visit from my mother. All 3 days COMPLETELY wasted because he showed up after I would have gotten off work the 2 times he bothered to show up at all.

He came in, installed the motor - we had a pest issue at that point, so additional work (not covered) would have to be completed. He and my husband chatted and as an apology, he said, he would come back Saturday, repair the part and would also complete the service for free. On Friday afternoon, he contacted my husband via email to confirm the Saturday morning appointment, my husband confirmed that we would be there at 8am Saturday. He never showed up.

At 8:45, my husband called his phone, only to be told via the voice mail that this man was on vacation until June 27th. Around 9:15, another contractor showed up. We never heard from Jay Jay Mechanical that they would be sending anyone different, so we had no idea who this man was. Thankfully, he was able to complete a portion of the work, but we never did get the a/c service done, which is imperative.

This has been a disgusting example of probably the worst customer service I have ever personally dealt with. Every other contractor you have assigned us to for other things have been wonderful. This guy? I won't ever use him again and have taken to social media to warn others. He's unreliable, untrustworthy and lies through his teeth each time he opens his mouth. I sincerely hope you'll consider dropping him from your contract roster.

When we bought the house, the house came with the First American warranty so we just kept it. It hasn't always been the best with them. I've had a number of incidents where I've had issues. In fact, I had one yesterday. I submitted a claim to have the valve on my bath toilet replaced because the system was just filling up or was not retaining water. Unfortunately when the tech called, I was actually stranded on a boat, so I asked him if he could go to his next appointment and maybe fit me in because I know that my problem is a ten-minute affair and wouldn't take very long to fix . He said he would call me back after his appointment that he was actually going to in place of mine, and he never called me back even after I left multiple messages for him on his cell phone. So as of now, I have a toilet that's unfixed. I'm about to call the company again to see if I can reschedule it. But then again, I felt that was poor customer service on their part.

I've had numerous problems with my air conditioning. Every year I put in a call to have at least one or two of my air conditioning units fixed, and every time it’s like a patch-up job. They work for a little bit and then it breaks down again. I call them, I pay another $75. Last summer I paid close to $3,500 (I have the receipts) in air conditioning repairs in addition to what I pay for the cost of my home warranty and the service fees that I pay to the tech, the $75, plus parts that are not covered. I’m fine with that but if I’m paying close to $3500, I expect my air conditioner to work, right? I called them six times in the course of a summer to repair the same air conditioning. Then this summer, the first day, the temperature went to 90 degrees. Guess what happened? My air conditioner doesn't work. Again, I’m writing another check for $75, and that’s the first check I’ll probably write for this summer. So am I happy? No, not particularly!

They replaced one, but again they were trying to extract more money out of me. I raised hell and I’m like, “No! This is why I have a home warranty. If it’s broken, it needs to be replaced. I need a new one.” With all the money that I paid in the last two years, I could have probably used that myself, forgotten about the home warranty, and just bought myself a new air conditioning unit. I stick with them because I keep thinking it’s going to be fine but no.

Then the second time, this is just another incident... The two years before that, my thermostat control unit was broken, the downstairs unit, and needed to be replaced. The guy came, took a look at my unit and said, “Oh, I have one in the truck.” So he went out and he brought this tiny control panel. It wasn’t the same brand, it wasn’t the same size, and even worse, it was one of those that had an on and an off switch. There was no control to set the temperature, to raise the temperature, to lower the temperature, there were no timer buttons – nothing.

When I questioned him and said, “You’re giving me an inferior model from what I had before,” he tried to tell me that my home warranty doesn’t cover. When I said, “Listen, hang on one second, I know what my home warranty covers, okay?” he said, “No, no, no. I just dealt with the woman right before you, an elderly lady, and she had the same problem as you, and you know, it says that I just have to give you what I have.” I said, “No, sir, you have to give me the equivalent, or if I’m not mistaken, upgrade me. I’m willing to pay for an upgrade, I’m willing to pay the difference, but you cannot put a substandard AC temperature control in my house. I’d sooner pay for the upgrade than have a downgrade.” He said, “No, no, no.” He said I don’t know what I’m talking about. So I said, “Hold on one second. I’m calling First American.”

So as I was on the phone with a customer service rep who very kindly assured me, “No, Mrs. **, you’re absolutely right. We have to, according to what it says on your policy, we have to give you exactly what you have there or something comparable. If we don’t have either, we have to upgrade you, and there is no additional cost to you, ma’am.” As soon as I came off the phone, he’s gone slipping across my front lawn. He said, “Oh, guess what, I found one.” And so I think what was happening was he was going to try to pull one over on me and substitute my good control for an inferior value and bill First American what it would have really cost. So he would have made a little something on the side. Anyway, I’m glad you no longer have them. They are not who they say they are. There are some companies out there who are not legit, who are trying to make a fast buck, who are abusing the right that they have to service clients by using First American and are ripping off clients, not doing a proper job and are trying to make a quick buck...

Don't get me wrong. In the six years that I've had First American, I've had some good experiences too, usually with the smaller companies, the mom-and-pop companies who are people like us and you are their bread and butter and they value the business; the bigger companies, not so much. But would I recommend First American to a friend? Probably not. In fact, I’m personally thinking about switching. They are inconsistent.

My realtor introduced me to First American when I bought my property. I got it just to have an insurance to cover my home in case something occurred. I've had it for years and I've seen a progression of improvement, because now they give you the contact information of the contractor and your reference number as soon as you made the claim, so you can even call the contractor yourself to set it up, they’ll even email you. They handle things really quickly when I submit a claim.

Overall, the process is very easy. They’re just very efficient and their timeliness is very good. I did have only one bad experience and that was actually within the last 30 days, when I called and they were busy so I had to settle for the automated system. It said that somebody will call me back and no one ever did. So I needed to call them and reschedule. But aside from that instance, I’m very satisfied. It’s been good.

Upon filing a complaint here, I was contacted by Stephanie from First American. She was extremely helpful and set up an appointment with a new plumber. They contacted me the same day, were out to my house the next day, and were able to fix all but one issue that same day. The plumber answered all of my questions, crawled under my house to check for additional leaks, and came back the next day to complete the job since he did not have the parts to complete the job. The first plumbing company suggested a complete piping overhaul of my home.

The second company reassured me the job would be done correctly and in a timely manner, and they did just that. Stephanie followed up with me once the job was completed, and I let her know how happy we were with the service provided. In my opinion, it shouldn't have taken a negative review from me to receive this type of service. I am relieved to see there are employees within First American that care enough to help out as much as they possibly can.

    Original Review: May 16, 2014

First American was the home warranty my home had when I purchased it 3 years ago. I have filed approximately 6 claims since then. There has been a problem with every single one. A busted water heater where certain parts weren't covered meant I had to pay an additional $300, a water leak in my kitchen sink that took 2 different contracting companies to fix, an exhaust fan in my master bathroom that took 5 visits to get fixed, 3 visits to replace a dimmer switch (yes, 3 visits) and service 3 ceiling fans, and now, a contractor that says he can't fix a leak under my bathroom sink unless I remove the cabinets and granite countertop. His solution? Replace entire piping under the house. This company uses third rate contractors that are unwilling to fix problems, but are more than willing to collect $60 every time they come out. First American's reps don't fair much better. Many are rude and unwilling to assist you. First American has poor ratings folks. Do some research, something I should have done. Needless to say, I will be canceling my contract and looking for a reputable company that will do what they're supposed to do - help paying customers.

They would not approve the replacement of pipes as it was not "normal wear & tear". How could it be anything other than that? The pipes were behind walls for 35 years with no work done on them at all.... untouched by anything but water. They eroded over time and cracked. Somehow this "warranty" finds a way to deny your claim. Save your money- don't buy this joke of a warranty and instead place your money in a bank account so you have discretionary funds available should you need them for repairs on your home-- because you cannot rely on first American Home Warranty to offer insurance on your purchase as they claim to do.

First American came with the house we bought. Submitting a claim with them was one of the easiest things I've ever had to do. We've filed three claims since we've been in that house for a little over two years. Any time we've had to deal with anybody from there, it has been great. They've been very professional, very helpful and very friendly. Even on the phone you just say, "Hey, this is wrong. This is what it's doing." They get somebody out and no "we can't do that." It was always really simple to get a hold of somebody and have them come out and deal with it.

They jumped in and did everything they could to make it right. I've got no complaints when submitting a claim to them. I enjoy the timeliness of getting an appointment scheduled. They’re trying to do the right thing. I've just had really bad luck with contractors so far but First American themselves have done a good job.

My wife's a realtor and uses First American a lot when she sells homes and I have had several of my own homes insured with them, too. I've had very good experience with First American compared with my experiences with others. The claims I submit are handled quickly and the claims representative takes the information and gets some help going, so everything’s been positive and quick. In fact, the contractor that they sent out for the last case we had was very professional and did an excellent job. He’s done more than what was expected of him and was probably one of the most professional contractors that First American has ever sent out. I recommend First American because their services are worth every penny.

I got First American through my escrow. I didn't know anything else at the time so I just went by what they recommended. Submitting a claim was okay but then when I asked questions, I wasn't answered properly. They didn't answer the questions the way they were supposed to and I wasn't satisfied with their responses. When the person came to do the work, I told them I did not appreciate it and that I was going to get somebody else to do it. And the response was very unprofessional to me. So I said if I had another choice I would look for somebody else.

I didn't have to complain about the second incident, but the first was not too good for me. If I could have changed them, I would. If I knew what to do, I could have gone with somebody else. Nobody gave me an option at the time. They were just thrown into my face and I just accepted. They need to know so they can do better next time.

They were just a little slow; it took like over a week for them to call back and come out. But it wasn't First American's fault. I guess they were busy or whatever, but they were okay. Then after the contractor left, it was leaking again. First American took care of their side of the problem right away. We had a good experience with them.

I had a very good experience with First American. I did not have a problem with them. They helped me out. We tried to solve the issue with finding a part, and couldn't find a part. So they just replaced it with a whole new unit. I've had them for over four or five years. Their prices were very reasonable and better than a lot of other people. At the time, I went with them on price and eventually they proved themselves to be very good. It's very easy and simple to submit a claim. You can do it either automated or you can talk to a customer service. I always like talking to somebody, instead of doing it automated.

The claims representatives were knowledgeable and very helpful. The only issue I had was with the lack of communication with the technician. On the First American side, I had to do a lot of following up myself. I couldn't contact him so I had to go back to First American. When First American was aware of my situation, they got a hold of him right away and resolved everything so I know it had nothing to do with First American.

This company is a JOKE! We had a problem with a refrigerator and called First American to file a claim. They sent a technician out to take a look and promised to be repaired within the week..... Six weeks later I finally call someone else and the problem was fixed in TWO DAYS! We also filled an electrical claim that First American stated would be covered under our policy. They sent a technician to come out to take a look at the problem. He was at the property no more than 5min and charged me the $65.00 service fee. A few days later First American called us and stated that the work would NOT BE COVERED! Their tech did not even know what the problem was nor did he do a complete diagnoses. We again called a private company and after $150.00 the problem was fixed that day.

Now the latest as of 5/8/2014. First American authorized a repair to be done on an oven that had an electrical malfunction. Instead of just replacing the electrical board they tried to repair it and again charged us $65.00. After 33 days we encountered the same problem. I call First American to let them know. They told me that since it had been over 30 days that I would need to pay another service fee of $65.00! THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM... and I will be posting this on every social media I can find to warn people of this company.

Called in repair of broken AC 4/1/14. It was fixed and then broke again within two weeks. Contractor was to call with an update by 5/1/14. On 5/5/14 I called the warranty co who had never gotten in touch with the contractor when he did not call with an update 5/1. He apparently is waiting on a part that had it even been shipped from outer space would have been here already. On a side note the Contractor stated that the warranty co would not replace the unit and it was up to the homeowner to replace. After 7 phone calls, 4 service reps, 1 claims rep (Jennifer **) and 2 Managers (Mark **) for one I can't get anyone to call me back. The manager asked to have the call transferred from the rep to himself at which point he let it go to voicemail and still has not returned the call.

I have been told that there is no timeframe as to when I should expect the AC up and running again despite the weeks that have passed. I have been told that while it will be 90 degrees on Thursday it will cool off by Friday. I was treated as if I was attempting to fraudulently obtain a replacement AC unit as if I had not been a customer for 4 years now and switched from AHS as I thought First American was better. Boy was I wrong. To top it off there is a minor child in the home and First American does not care. I would avoid this company at all cost. Believe all the reviews you read as we all have the same complaints and are treated the same when it comes to First American not holding up their end of the bargain.

When we purchased our house, it was part of the package that the seller put together. We were given it for one year but we were pleased with the company, so we decided to renew it since 2010. It is very easy to submit a claim. I can just go online and I could be extremely specific with what the problem is. It gives me the ability to describe in my own words about what our issue is, so they know exactly who to send out. And then every single time somebody is sent out here, they've been very pleasant, approachable and easy to talk to. They've explained the entire process so that's why we continue to renew our contract with First American Home Buyers Protection.

The worker they had sent out discovered that there was some wiring issues up in our attic and was able to take care of that for us, which was a huge relief. And then we had the issue with our dishwasher one day and the one that was sent out was just a really nice great guy. He explained everything and walked us through everything and it was all covered under. I think it's $70 for them to come out? Well, everything was just covered underneath that fee so it's reassuring and comforting for me to know who I'll be working with, and have an idea what the cost will be before we call anybody out. So it's nice to have that loyalty to a company and have that reassurance. They create ease of mind and gain confidence in the service that you'll be getting is gonna be fair and good. I'd recommend First American Home Buyers Protection.

Upon posting my complain at consumer affair, First American representative Shanee has promptly contact me to solve the issue I posted. The resolution is First American will reimburse my garage door with check. While I'm still waiting for the check to arrive, I think my general experience this time with Shanee is much better than before. It is as prompt as it could be, and I think this effort should be credited.

However, if the honesty and promptness is shown in the very beginning of this claim, this experience will definitely be more than satisfying. Since my case being resolved with a reasonable solution, I am satisfied with the solution. But other consumers should know where to find helps when such a issue happens.

    Original Review: April 28, 2014

I had a garage door issue that the door cannot close properly. It would go down and back up again from time to time. I called First American and they said it is covered and send a technician. However, when the technician came, they only inspected my garage door for less than 5 minutes and said it is the garage opener's design issue and First American wouldn't cover it. Later on I also got a call from First American saying that they will not cover that repair. Nevertheless, the issue still need to be resolved so I paid by my own and found another technician to have the job done (since the technician First American sent is talking to me with a very provoking tone and attitude, I didn't let them do the work that I have to pay from my pocket).

However, I recently got a service charge of $60 from First American. The technician did nothing to my garage door besides inspecting, which I could ask any garage door repairer to come and give me a quote without a charge. When I called First American service line to see if they can remove the charge, they said to me because the technician has come, even without doing any repair and First American refused to repair my garage door issue, they still have to charge it.

It sounds very sarcastic since the service representative mentioned to me that "Delaying the payment might delay your repair service." Since I got no repair service done by them, does it mean I can delay the payment for how long I ever wanted? Anyhow, I might still pay that $60 service charge to avoid the hassle and time wasted, but it definitely worth my time to post my bad experience here if someone read my comments and made a better decision when they want to purchase a home warranty.

Live in Costa Mesa. Got warranty via seller in home buy. Woke up to gushing water in closet where water heater located. Could it be a pipe break in the floor? Saw WH shutoff valve and tried to turn it - stuck open (so much for inspection) and could not locate whole house shutoff (outside behind some bushes). In a panic with gushing water, I picked up local Penny Saver magazine and left messages with several plumbers - one calls back 10 minutes later and walks me through shutoff process. Comes out less than an hour later and replaces shutoff valve and defective Home Depot WH supply tubes where the leak really was. $400 no big deal. Called FirstAm via their 800 number tree system (took a while) and sent info. After 10 days, no response so called again.

Sent info again (and both times the phone reps were very responsive in taking the info), and 3 days later through a rather brusque phone message was told that while it may have been covered, by not calling them first via the same 800 number everybody has to wade through, it cannot be covered. FirstAm at a minimum should spell out what to do in an emergency in its booklet. Also, provide a sticker with the number to call (hopefully an expedited service number versus a general 800 number). By doing what I did, I avoided a lot of consequential damage. IMO for this situation and after reading other reviews, FirstAm is very inflexible. At renewal time, NO WAY, and every chance I get, I will badmouth them.

First American Home Warranty used to be a decent company that provided services for home owners and I used to recommend this company to all of my friends and clients. But in the past couple of years it has gone downhill big time.

I had requested a repair on my Air Heating because it stopped working during the cold weather. A Technician came out and gave me an estimate of $1500.00 for the service and a modification of the units for re-installment of the iron pipes and requested to pay a $60.00 charge for the service fee!!! I refused to pay the 60.00 service fee for the 1500.00 estimate of the service invoice. I called a regular air conditioning company and requested the same service; they came out immediately and fixed the problem for an exact fee of just $45.00.

Couple of weeks later, my garage door spring's broke. I then again called and a technician arrived in couple of days and told me that my policy does not cover the springs replacement and requested to pay $60.00 for the service fee!!! I refused to pay the 60.00 and the Technician couldn't leave my house because his car broke all of the sudden and on top of everything he left his car keys inside his car. I spend a couple of hours helping this guy to open his truck fixing his car. Does that mean I have to charge the Garage repair company (North Star Mechanical) to pay me for my time and effort??

With all of these issues caused by this company, I now have to advice all my of friends and clients to be very careful with the First American Home Warranty before they make any business decisions on choosing the Home Warranty providers. This company taught me and opened my eyes about what kind of issues can arise in the services we are paying for. Such a horrible experience and I do not recommend this company to anyone unless you want to deal with major issues.

I have had First American for a few years now and have submitted less than 4 claims. Each claim was one disaster after another. They have sent unlicensed repair people to my house to do repairs. They have sent electricians to do plumbing repairs. Each repair job the individual sent out was unprepared to accomplish the required work. Looked at what needed to be done and charged $60.00. When and if they returned they said it was another $60.00 to actually do the repair and then the repair wouldn't even be done correctly. This repair person extremely unprofessional and continually insulted my wife. I was not at home at the time but when she told me about it I immediately called First American.

Sure they apologized about it and I informed them that this repair company will not do any additional repairs at my residence. They sent another company out to do the repairs and still had the same poor workmanship. First American contacted the company that I had an issue with and the owner actually called me and said he was going to come to my residence and confront me in person for lodging such a complaint. I have reviewed several other complaints concerning this company and they all have the same issue.

This is a poor company and I would recommend staying away from them. There are other home warranty companies with positive reviews and excellent customer service. First American has poor service, poor contracts (please read them carefully each time - They do change them when they want to without your knowledge and approval), poor contractors working for them (unprofessional and unlicensed).

At first, I loved my warranty company. Loved the low monthly payments and service fees. Unfortunately, it took more than one time to fix each thing that went out. My a/c went out and they came out and fixed it. Two weeks later, it went out again. Luckily since then, it's been working fine. And since GA summer is coming up, I'm glad it's working. My heater wasn't working properly and it took them 5x to fix the problem. Of course a new problem each time within a month. But now it works and all is well.

Then it was my garbage disposal. They installed a new one that same day but then my dishwasher stopped working!!! I knew it had to do something with the new garbage disposal. They had them come back out but they said everything was fine. So I had to file a new claim for my dishwasher. He came out and guess what? The garbage disposal wasn't installed properly. So not only did I have to pay him the deductible for the dishwasher when he did nothing to it but I had to wait a month before they issued me a refund. The plumber came back out and fixed the problem with the garbage disposal and all was well.

My toilet was leaking and filed yet another claim. Fixed done good! A week later, my water heater busted. I file an EMERGENCY CLAIM and it's taken 2 weeks and still have yet to get a water heater. I have two toddlers and I'm currently pregnant and not being able to have hot water has sucked. Apparently you can't use your bath tub or dishwasher unless you have a water heater. So the past two weeks with the kids and I have been pretty hectic. Over the past two weeks I have spoken to 10 different reps trying to address this issue and see where the hell my water heater is that was suppose to be here 3 days after the claim was made. They have spun me around so many ways it's ridiculous. Got hung up on twice. They had the nerve to offer a cash out of $408 to pay for a water heater and labor.

I'm sorry but that will only cover 1/2 the cost. So is shelling out $400-$500 of my money for something that is covered under my warranty. Now how is this fair? The plumbing company who is suppose to install the water heater has spent all day doing First American's job and calling the supplier and doing everything in their power to get my family a water heater ASAP. It's suppose to be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed. The claim agent supposedly working on my claim didn't read Into any of her notes from today and called me and asked if I was interested in the cash out. Um no, sorry that's not going to cover the cost so no I'm not interested. And if you'd paid attention to my file, you would see in there that there's a water heater being sent out yet again that should have been sent out last week when the other one went "missing". Came to find out it was never ordered in the first place!!!!

After 14 years of paying for my warranty, I actually had to submit a claim. I guess that's where the problem started. It wasn't a big claim - only $1500. They sent out a contractor to fix a leak from the upstairs bathroom. It was only a few hundred dollars. Fixed... sure... 3 months later, there was mold growing in the downstairs bathroom ceiling. Had to call out a service repair company. Apparently the first time, the leak wasn't properly sealed. First American claimed it was not their problem and refused to cover the damage at all. I had to hire an independent remediation company to come fix the leak that wasn't fixed right the first time, repair the ceiling and get rid of the little bit of mold that had started.

A year later I am STILL TRYING TO GET A RETURN PHONE CALL FROM THEM asking them why they don't back the vendor that they claim they "screen and select only the best vendors". So after 14 years of paying my premiums, they refuse to pay the $1500 out of pocket fees for the remediation company because their "hand selected vendor" couldn't fix a simple leak in the first place. I will be contacting Dept of Consumer Affairs on this as I see that there have been many complaints filed against First American in the last 30 days on this web page... How they can they even stay in business at this point? I suggest everyone do the same. This company does not deserve ANYONE'S business.

In a four letter word all I can say is SCAM! This company will do whatever they can to get out of actually taking care of their customers under their contract. In the year that we suffered with their extremely poor customer service and lack of communication on their website we are done! We scheduled a service request for a plumber to come out and it was all scheduled. The contractor even called us to confirm. Then today I go on the website only to see the service request shows that is has been closed and completed. I called and they said that the kind of plumbing problem we were having was not covered and the appointment never should have been accepted by their system.

Two weeks later I find this out! Typical Also I received a very rude phone call from First Ham trying to get me to renew our contract for another year and when I told them I didn't want to for various reasons they would not take no for an answer. It actually turned into an argument and I just hung up. A class action lawsuit needs to be filed against this company. I have already notified the California Board of Realtors and my next step is the BBB and anywhere else on the web and I can get the word out that this company has to be closed. But if they continue down the path they are going they will mostly get caught at some point and I will do my best to see that this happens. Enough is Enough.

I moved a 2x4 in 5 minutes in the attic following a knee surgery and in recovery (really complicated). Days later, they dispatched the technician (on a Friday). He came back without the part, (instructed by FA to pull the fan only).

He pulled the fan in less than 5 minutes and took it to the shop. Of course, everything is closed on Saturday. So if we are lucky they can order the part on Monday. It will be at least 10 days before this simple blower is fixed. This is not as bad as the A/C that went out 2 years ago in 100 + degree heat in Houston and it took them over a month to get it fixed. Do not sign up with them whatever you do.

I have paid for a warranty for 13 years. Feb 3 I called regarding a refrigerator that had died after 13 years and my heat pump system. My heat pump system is 29 years old. I received a $262 electric bill for one month so knew something was wrong as I live in a 1000 foot townhouse. Turns out I was using my aux heat as the pump outside had stopped completely. The contractor put more Freon in and plugged a leak and he also admitted he had used a starter the 2nd time he came out, when a day later I realized the system was using aux still. He came out and said he would send an estimate to FAHB. This took many phone calls and over an week with the only offer from the company was to replace the compressor at a rate of $869 or I could accept that amount as a buyout. For a $5000 heat pump that I had insured this whole time.

They were unbending and didn't care to any logic. I have spoken to several HVAC specialists and they are clear that it is insane to put a new compressor in an 29 year old system as the remaining system would not be able to handle and parts of that system would break down which would be an additional $65 every time I had to call for an additional repair. I have been a good consumer, paying on time always and not using the warranty except when needed. In addition, I am suppose to pay my monthly fee until then end of July even when they are not acting ethically or responsible. The refrigerator is the same story. I have to now decide what to do about the heat pump as it is costing me everyday to heat with the aux.

I have had this home warranty for 4 years but did not have to use them for anything more than a handful of very minor issues. This winter, 4 weeks ago, my heat went out and I needed a furnace replacement. I have never been so incensed by a company from which I am paying for services. They have absolutely no sense of urgency, follow-up or customer care. It is like spinning on a wheel that gets you nowhere. I am the one that has had to initiate things to get done throughout the process. This one instance, among many, in my recent claim is a great example of who they really are because they are definitely not the company they claim to be.

I live in a condo building and like most condos we require proof in licensure and insurance in order to complete any work. The contractor that First Am assigned me to was asked to provide these documents. I called the contractor to make sure this was getting done and was told they were in the mail. I called again a few days later and told the same thing. At this point I called First Am who regurgitated what the contractors were saying. That was 8 days before my scheduled work with them. By the night before my appointment we had still not received the documents. I called First Am and told them for the third time that I had not received them.

Their response was that I had to get them from the contractor. Enraged, I said "if they won't provide them, and you won't provide them, how am I supposed to get them?" This was a supervisor, mind you, who hung up on me. No return call, no nothing. I let the contractors show up. They came without any paperwork and were told to leave. I called First Am to let them know that the work could not be completed because the contractor THEY assigned to me did not submit the docs. That was yesterday morning and I have yet to get call back from them. Obviously, I am done with everyone involved and moving on to more reputable businesses. Overall - First American is as shady, dishonest and indifferent as the companies they contract with!!!!

I was stuck with this company when I purchased my home. It was part of a deal I believe the company and the real estate agent had. When I contacted her with the first issue she told me that she had a relationship with them and always used them. Personally I think she gets kickbacks from them. Anyway, after living in the home less than a month, my toilet got stopped up. I am a single older woman with a small dog. Evidently there was something stuck in the toilet when I purchased the home. The plumber said the only way to fix it was to replace the toilet.

FAHB said all they do is unclog and if I need the toilet fixed I had to do it myself, regardless of the fact that I purchased the upgraded version and am suppose to have replacements if the original cannot be fixed. So if I want to use my own toilet, I need to replace it myself. Anyway, no way around this. Spoke with 3 different folks about this all were not helpful and the last guy was downright rude. I am trying to cancel my contract however you can only do it in writing, guess no one in cancellation talks on the phone.... I am sure I will be out the money paid for this plan. I can’t see the cancellation department being any more customer service oriented than the company. BEWARE!!!! I would not purchase or advise anyone to purchase a plan from this company... My washing machine stopped working on December 17th, 2013, and I still don't have resolution with this claim. I have been visited five times by technicians; of course, each time I was required to be at home losing time at work. The short of it is that the First American do not want to replace a failing item. They will keep you waiting on their phone lines and talking to representatives who really have no power or intent to help you. From the 15 day point, I was supposed to have someone overseeing the case because it wasn't resolved. No one contacted me.

When I learned the name of the person, it took three phone calls to her to get her to return my call. Once I got to speak with her, I realized she was just following the company line of "let's wait and see" what happens after this sixth visit from a repairman. They seem to have faulty communication between their repair people and their reports because she and I had a very different point of view of what had occurred over the past month and a half. I have unfortunately had to speak with many representatives to try and get this resolved and their pretense is that the warranty company needs to be told by the repair company that the issue is unfixable. I was told that by the servicemen and the fact I have had so many visits. The company claims this information was never shared, so their hands are tied. They cannot act. Their motto is service, value, and integrity. It should be deceit, deception, and dishonesty. Do yourself or your new home buyers a favor; don't buy First American.

They authorized me to get my own plumber and then did not authorize them to the do work. We were immediately denied on a claim for a furnace that broke down two days after we moved into a new home on the premise that it was a pre-existing condition despite the fact that the Home Inspection Report and another inspection found that it looked and worked satisfactorily. We were asked to supply the Home Inspection report which we did along with a letter that quoted the contract which we received from the company which states that if the system is visually inspected and mechanically works it cannot be denied coverage.

We still have not received confirmation of receiving these items that were requested and they will not call us back when a message is left for the person handling the case. We have been without heat now for 11 days and it is quite cold here where we live. Most frustrating is when we call to leave a message with the extension number of Lynn we end up going through at least a 15-20 minute process to just leave a message for her. Their phone system doesn't allow you to go to an extension number or they have it set up that way to avoid dealing with people making claims.

Who knows what is happening over there. We would just like to be able to get in touch with them. Meanwhile we are freezing and it will take more time to finally order a new furnace. This is not a home warranty - they do their best to avoid making good on their contract by immediately declining claims and then avoidance of customers till they get tired and just eventually go away because they need to have an appliance, etc. fixed. Buyer Beware.

So I sent message on their website on the claim I have and no one contacted or replied back. A week after I sent another message and no one contacted me to reply back to me. So I called them today and waited on the phone for 15 min. to talk to an agent which said she will look into it and call me by the end of the week which is 5 days from today. Surprising enough, the supervisor said the messages I previously sent goes to another department and she doesn't know anything about it, and that what they can do and she didn't care at all. Woke up to a cold home on 12/14/13. Phoned LAST ** Home buyers SCREWERS. I was assigned a complaint number, a contractor, given a direct number to the contractor etc. 3 - 4 hours later, the contractor, A Advanced & Air Conditioning - who SUCK also, showed up & diagnosed the issue. The tech tells me he doesn't have the part he needs to fix the problem. He goes on to say that he is passing the supplier en route to his next assignment and he needs to have his office contact the supplier to see if the part is available. Me, thinking of getting my family out of the cold, ask if he can call the supplier while he's here to try and get it expeditiously. The tech tells me, "No. I have to call from my truck."(???). Once the tech is gone maybe 20 minutes later, I receive a call stating that the supplier is closed now (12pm on a Saturday) and the part won't be able to be picked up until Monday, 12/16/13.

Monday morning, I call A Advanced only to find out that the part has to be ordered and won't be in until MAYBE Tuesday, 12/17/13. I'm also told that IF the part comes in before 4pm, the repair can/will be done on 12/17/13. I ask the agent at A Advanced, "Jennifer **", considering it's been quite cold in my area and we've already been in a cold house for 3 days, is there any way the part can be upgraded to express delivery or next day delivery? I'm told by Jennifer that the part has already been designated for next day delivery.

The morning of 12/18/13 - I decide to call A Advanced to see if there's any tracking info I can get so I can see exactly where the package is and when it will be delivered. I start my calls at 9am. My first three calls are directed to Jennifer's voicemail. At approx 1230pm, I push 1 to be directed to customer service. "Willie **" who is alleged to be assigned to the Northern VA area goes on and on speaking up for Jennifer's work load and giving excuses regarding her failure to answer the phone. When I ask Willie about possible getting tracking info on the part, Willie tells me that A Advanced doesn't order parts and suggests that I call my insurance company for any and all tracking concerns/information.

I can't resist asking the obvious: "If A Advanced doesn't order parts why would Jennifer tell me the part had been ordered and designated for next day delivery? If she didn't order it or the part wasn't ordered by A Advanced, how would she know? Willie's response - what I'd like to refer as the "spin cycle" - more of the same..culminating with, "Call your insurance provider." So, I call Last American Home Buyer Screwers. I ask to speak to a supervisor because, the day before, "Juan" seemed bothered that I was calling so early inquiring about my home still being cold.

After holding for 15 minutes, Michael ** Quality Dept - proceeds to tell me that FAHBP doesn't order parts unless they are repairing full units. He tells me they have no tracking info and that the contractor is responsible for said part(s). so, okay, I've been lied to. My response to Michael ** Quality Dept - "Would you call A Advanced while I hold and find out what is going on with the repair at my home, please?" I hold for 5 - 7 minutes. Michael ** Quality dept returns. He tells me that he left a voicemail for Jennifer and asked her to call me with the status of the part and scheduled repair of my furnace. I ask Michael if HE or someone from FAHBP will be contacting me with an update regarding my furnace/the part and when my furnace will be fixed? Michael stated, "No. Unless the contractor requests that we contact you, they will update you on the part and when your issue will be taken care of."

Not trying to be argumentative, I mentioned to Michael that I pay FAHBP every month... not A Advanced. I informed Michael that I'm HIS customer, I'm not A Advanced' customer. Michael joined in, further conducting the "spin cycle" and simply repeated that A Advanced would be contacting me. 3 more calls over the next 2 1/2 hours.I finally speak to Jennifer. She didn't pick up on her extension.she picked up when I attempted to get "customer service". she didn't identify herself, I recognized her voice and asked if it was Jennifer I was speaking to. I was informed that the part was scheduled to be delivered and given a guarantee that the issue would be rectified today(12/17/13).

An hour... maybe an hour and a half later, the same tech from Saturday morning, "Nick", plus 1, "Trevor", arrived to fix the problem. "Trevor" looked like he was fresh of the corner or fresh out of juvenile detention... pants sagging off his ** and complaining, a few minutes into the repair, about how he was ready to go. "Trevor" was handing me the manual that came with the part, "just in case someone else has to service the furnace", before "Nick" had even tested the part and/or the furnace to make certain everything was working and heat was restored to my home. Nick didn't even have receipts so he could detail the fix and closeout that complaint as resolved (so much for FAHBP' assertions that they follow a strict policy with regards to who they contract for their customer's repairs). Needless to say, I cancelled my policy with FAHBP 2 minutes after the techs were out of my house.

He never did and when I called the company, they said that they didn't send anybody. Full of lies.

Now, almost a year later, and we are still waiting. They finally installed a new furnace, but it took more than 15 days. They called because I need to pay $700.00 for the piece that American First didn't cover which I am not going to pay because the furnace STILL DOES NOT WORK. I called again and they came and explained what happened, but left without fixing it. They're coming on Monday and I know it's going to be the same story. This company should be reported and shut down. READING ALL THE REVIEWS, A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT UP AGAINST THIS COMPANY.

This company is a complete mess and the contractor which works for them was the same. I had two issues with my house plumbing. Problem number one (pipe leaking inside a wall): Called FA and contractor AZ plumbing was assigned. Guy comes, looks at wet drywall and says that I have to make access to the pipes but he cannot wait 5 minutes while I could do it. He will come next day. After I make access, he shows up, looks at the leaking pipe and says he needs to go to Home Depot and buy the pipe and will be back the next day. So I had to waste three days of vacation to have a small leak fixed. Best part is that FA sends me bills for two work order calls and it takes looooong waiting on hold to clarify that.

Problem number two (pipe leaking in the ceiling). AZ plumbing assigned. Guy comes, asks for access and tells me where to make holes in the ceiling. After I make them, he comes (without ladder! so he needs to borrow mine). He looks at the old pipes and tells me that he cannot do it and needs me to make another hole in the middle of the living room ceiling. I send him away, close the water, cut and remove the old pipe myself. Call them the next day that it's ready. So he shows up still with no ladder and no pipe. After another trip to Home depot he is finally ready, he puts the new pipe in within 10 minutes and is gone. FA bills me again twice for service fees and this time denies to solve the problem. Customer service person is repeating things over and over. And the result is that they submit the claim to debt collector company. Please be aware of these guys!

We have had several problems with this company. Basically, they charge you $60 for a service call, and when they can't fix the problem, they deny your claim. We had an issue with a washing machine that was backing up into the bathtub and the bathroom sink with rinse water from the washer. First American sent a plumber out and he told us that in order to solve the problem, they would have to replace our sewer pipes which would cost thousands of dollars.

First American told us that they would not cover it because it was a "pre-existing condition"! So we called a reputable plumber who investigated the problem and discovered that there was a clog in the line, snaked it and the problem is now solved. It cost $145 to fix the problem. So we had to pay $60 to a plumber who did nothing and $145 for a plumber to solve the problem. This warranty program is useless and definitely not worth the money.

I went to my backyard and found out that the water was leaking from a pipe that was coming out of attic. I went to attic and found out that one of the A/C unit was leaking water into the Pan and the pipe in the pan was carrying water outside. I call the First American and they said that I have to pay $60. They sent the technician. He went to attic and using his flash lights, he said, "Yes... main pipe is clogged." To clean it would cost $250. I asked him why not $60. He said it's the maintenance issue and it's not covered. When I called First American, they did not specify to me. I did not let him work on unit.

I called my regular guy who always fixed in my old home. He checked and said that there is nothing wrong with Pipe. Due to higher concentration of humidity, system is creating lots of water and the main pipe had a "U" turn right next to unit which could not handle the incoming water volume. He removed the "U" shape since there is already another "U" pipe in the bathroom where this main pipe releases the water. I don't have problem anymore. American Home Shield called me and informed me that I still owe them $60 and they have submitted to third party to recover money... Full of scam. Only reason I had this is because the previous owner gave it to me when I bought the house. I have told all my friends and family to stay away from all home warranty companies. They are full of scam artists.

I have utilized them on five(5) occasions to date: 1) Air-conditioning unit, Trane 5-Ton, they replaced the A-coil with no issues; 2) Dishwasher needed a pump replacement. Came out verified, part needed, ordered it, arrived at home in 2 days and installed the next; 3) Microwave was throwing arcs across one third of the interior. Came out, verified problem, replaced part all in the initial trip; 4) Dryer had heating element burn out. Came out, and replaced the heating element; 5) Double garage door spring broken. Came out, replaced the spring assembly and good to go.

I almost did not sign up for any of the home warranty programs after reading the internet reviews. Then I realized how many of my friends used them and they had minimal complaints, if any. I am glad I opted for the First American plan. It has been a huge plus for me and would recommend to my friends if asked. I think it's good to note that among the dissatisfied customers that post their complaints, there are hundreds if not thousands of satisfied customers that have no need to post how happy they are. I just decided to take the time to pass on to those interested that I am a very happy customer.

After many attempts to get my washer repaired, First American could not give me a time that would prevent me from taking off work. So at last, I took off on Friday, 10/11/2013. Two technicians came, one who was obviously a trainee. The trainer left the work to him while he disappeared. They finished and said the washer was repaired but did not run it through a cycle to be sure. I paid the fee and thinking the washer was repaired began to wash a load of clothes. To my disappointment and frustration, the washer was still not spinning. I immediately called the technician back. He returned and said I needed another part. I called First American and was told the earliest another technician could come out would be 10/18/2013 and I would need to call Sears directly.

I did not know until the next day that the washer had been dismantled by the technician, and now does not even come on. First American is notorious for giving customers the run around and can never accommodate customers at a convenient time. The service is poor. We pay the yearly charge in full and at the end of this cycle, we will no longer wish to have first American as our home warranty provider. What a lousy business. I would never recommend them to anyone.

Just got off the phone with the claims manager of First American who has decided after sending out 3 different techs to repair the fan unit on my microwave, an integral part of a functioning microwave that quit working after I bought and paid for a 1 year warranty with these clowns, that a 4th tech from a different company should be able to diagnose it correctly. The first 3 techs were from Sears and every time, they sent someone different to make a diagnosis. Every time they sent out for a different part that came in mail and a week or two later, somebody would actually call to schedule for me to take time off work to let in another Bozo tech.

So today, I tell the manager that they have wasted enough of my time and enough of their techs' time and that any rational business would have opted to pay for a new $150 microwave than to keep attempting to fix something that nobody seems able to repair. The 1st line of claims service was a lady by the name of Yvonne who decides that it should be replaced (good for her) but then changes her mind when she realizes that the microwave still emits microwaves (not so good). After I got all up in her grill about her piss-poor decision making skills, I request to speak to a manager and get Mariano who dodges all of my repeated requests for him to simply replace the unit and quit causing me to take off work to meet yet another tech that can't seem to fix things.

The joke here is that gas is about $3/gallon. These guys probably get about $8-10 per hour for looking at my microwave. My time is worth about $35-50/hour depending on what I have scheduled for work since I am self employed. The Samsung microwave retails for about $200 = wholesale closer to $150. You do the math and tell me who is getting screwed the most. But the biggest joke of all is that Marianno with First American... was calling me from the Dominican Republic!!! We can't even keep American companies American. This truly is an Obama-Nation.

Broken KitchenAid dishwasher (day 30 and counting): I've had 4 technician visits by 2 different companies. The first technician replaced the control panel; that didn't work. He then came back and replaced the control board; that didn't work. Instead of replacing the dishwasher, FAHW requested a 2nd opinion! They sent a 2nd company, which (again) recommended a new control board. FAHW said that the new control board could be faulty, so they want it replaced AGAIN. Each time a part has to be ordered, the wait is 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS, so that means 2 weeks. And 1 of these parts was on "Back Order" so the wait was longer. Seems that the company wants to make the customer wait so long that the customer becomes exasperated and pays for a new unit himself/herself (the reps kept mentioning a "cash out" as another option, which I rejected). I have complained to 2 supervisors, but to no avail. I had to cancel a big family party because I have no confidence that I will have a new dishwasher before 10/26 - even though that is 6 weeks after registering the complaint.

I have purchased a plan with First American that is supposed to cover all utilities including my A/C unit in case of repairs or failure. My automatic garage door opener was improperly installed by the previous owners and collapsed. First American would not cover it since the damaged part was sold at Home Depot. At least, that is what I was told via customer service phone call. 1 1/2 weeks ago I called First American and they sent contractors out to take a look at my A/C that wasn't getting cold enough. They said it was low on Freon and filled it up, but never bothered to troubleshoot why. I was told if we were still having problems within 30 days that we would not be charged another service fee of $60.

Well, (fine print) only if they send the same contractors out does this apply. So I got screwed out of 60 bucks when they sent someone else out 1 1/2 weeks later. The next bunch said I needed a new coil in the upstairs unit because the old one was leaking Freon everywhere and it needed to be condemned. The previous crew never even went upstairs to look at the unit, only the outside unit. The estimate came to 730 bucks and those contractors told me they have never had an insurance company not cover at least half the cost.

First American called and said they would be covering none of it. I was perplexed by their response, thinking why not? All insurance I have ever heard of at least will cover something unless the owner deliberately neglected or intentionally damaged the equipment. None of these were the case. Their reason was "We don't cover modifications". How is an essential repair to get the A/C working considered a modification? It’s not plastic surgery. My arm is missing over here!

Consequently, I asked about the 300 and change charges for disposal fee and other non-categorized into modifications charges according to the printed estimate cost. First American said they do not cover that either. I asked a hypothetical if my entire unit blew up, if that would be covered.... the answer was no also. I guess paying them to cover nothing is a pretty good scam. I want my money back from this useless company, and I have never in my life heard of an insurance company as terrible as this one. I will be dropping them promptly and looking for an insurance company that actually covers unexpected costs. I wish I could give negative stars as rating. If I had the means I would sue them. They made me that angry.

It's necessary to "shut off" the vacuum, and not leak so that the suction at the remaining sites is functional. Am Home Warranty's solution suggested is to repair the flap that's no longer available and install an adaptor on the hose. This make the remaining 4 inlets non-functional. They want me to pay $150 for each of the remaining 4 inlets to adapt them to match the repair (We may be headed to small claims court).

On 9/5/13 I called First American Home warranty co. to get someone out to fix my A/C. On 9/6/13, got a call from a contractor they set up to come fix the A/C. They stated that it would be 9/9/13 before someone could come look at the A/C. Okay, on 9/9/13, the contractor came by, took 30 minutes to look at the A/C and all he did was look at the light indicator that said what the problem was. He said it was the ECM motor that was bad and needed to be replaced and would have to order the part. Contractor stated he would order the part that day then call to make appointment to install it. Got call on 9/10/13 stating the part was in and made appointment for 9/11/ 13 for installation. Then on 9/11/13 in the morning, got a call from the contractor stating that the EMC motor was a part that could not be replaced so they would need to replace the furnace and have to get approval from the warranty company.

That made me confused, the contractor had the part to fix it, then all of a sudden that part could not be fixed and a new furnace was needed? So I call the warranty company to tell them I do not trust this contractor and I would like a second opinion. The warranty company told me I could not get a second opinion because they have already received the request for a new furnace because my furnace had several cracks in it and needs replacing. I told the person at the warranty company the contractor did not look at my furnace and I would like a second opinion. Again I was told I could not get one from them.

I called the contractor to talk to them to ask more questions about what was going on with my A/C problem and why the furnace needs to be replaced. I left voice message with this request on 9/11/13, got no call back. I called and left messages the rest of the week and still no call back form the contractor. Called the First American again on Friday, 9/13/13, asking again for second opinion because I did not trust this contractor they sent . Finally, was told I could get a second opinion on my own. So I did and was told it was a bad starter module and that the furnace was fine, no cracks in it. So I called First American to let them know what the second opinion found out on my A/C and they ask me to fax it to them. I emailed it instead.

I called First American on 9/14/13 to see about getting this second opinion company to fix my A/C and all they wanted to do was offer $50 for box fans. Then talked to a manager who offered $150 for an A/C window unit. All I want is my A/C fixed. It was going on day number 8 with no A/C. Then First American said they would send a second contractor out to look at my A/C. This is on 9/14/13, the weekend. So on 9/17/13, I got a call from the second contractor First American set up to look at the A/C telling me they stopped by my house and left a note on my door stating they had come by. Really? Think the call should have come first to set up a day and time, not a drop by whenever they want to. I have no faith in the First American warranty. It has been 13 days now and I have called the contractor I use for the 1st second opinion to come fix my A/C on 9/18/13 and bought a warranty with them on my A/C so I do not ever have to go through this again.

My ac stopped working on August 23, 2013. I live in Arizona and the temperatures this last 2 weeks are in excess of 110 degrees. It is now September 7 and my house is 90 degrees. These are the unacceptable issues:

First American Home Buyers finds service people that are not good. I now know this from experience. This is why they are inaccessible just as First American is. Wait times when you call is consistently in excess of 1 hour. Once I spoke with the rep, I was given the phone number of L&S AC Repair. I called them and was placed on another 15 minute phone call. Three days later, a service technician by the name of Justin arrived - replaced a part and left without checking if the repair worked. Within 5 minutes, it was obvious the unit wasn't working and I called him on the phone number. He called me at 1/2 hr before. He turned the truck around, came back and repaired something else - once again didn't check the unit to see if the unit worked - and left.

I called back in to let them know that the temp in the house was 85 degrees even though I had turned it down to 77 degrees. Once again I had to go through the rescheduling line and 3-4 days later, he comes back. An aside: I asked L&S to send out a different tech, but they sent the same one. At this point I don't have any confidence he knows what he is doing. They ignore my request and send him again anyway. He comes out 3 days later - Saturday and says I have a blocked cooling line and that he needs to get authorization to fix and since it is a holiday weekend, authorization will take another 3 days.

On the following Tuesday, I wait for a call in regard to authorization. By afternoon I call - am on hold for 20 minutes once the L&S person answers, she hangs up before I can even say my name! I am on hold for another 10 minutes after that. They said they just received authorization and schedule me another 3 days out - I request a new rep - they give me the name of Jeff. Jeff comes out and "fixes" the unit saying that it may not work and to call if it doesn't. House is still not cooled - and at this point it is 90 degrees. I call Jeff and he comes out the next afternoon - does not call me back. Last night - Sept 7 I pick up a phone call that I need a compressor and that it won't be until this coming Tuesday.

Please note that I live in Arizona and the temps are in excess of 110 degrees. L&S does their best to not give service. It is my opinion that they stall service so that you will go outside of the warranty and buy it yourself. Both First American Home Buyers and L&S are scammers. They are in the warranty business for a reason - and it's not to service the warranty. I have never received such poor, rude service. This company should be reported and shut down. I will come together with anyone else that is interested in a class action suit against them. This has been an absolute nightmare.

Of course they email me after I got off the phone that the vendor would contact me during business hours. I wasn't too happy after the rep had already told me one thing, now the contact stated something different. But I waited until Monday. I asked, "What kind of damage are you talking about?" They said the contractor told them there was a hole on the corner of the unit and it looks like a dog had been urinating on that side which caused the damage. I explained I bought the house 4 years ago and had the home inspected before purchasing and the house was under Home warranty from the Seller (at First American) and since then I kept up on the warranty that's deducted once a month via direct withdrawal on my bank account.

Furthermore, I have NEVER owned a dog period. I don't have guests that owned dogs. So then, the representative stated that maybe it's the neighbor's dog that may be the culprit. Thus I told him, actually my back yard is fenced in and so is my neighbor's yard. There is no way a Dog has been in my back yard urinating on the a/c unit. After arguing with the rep for another 30 minutes because I just couldn't understand why this was happening, she said to me, "We have DENIED your claim. You better hire your own contractor to fix your A/C and pay for it yourself. I understand you are not happy about it but there is nothing else we can do for you."

I was like WOW... Flabbergasted, first it took their contractor a week to try to resolve this issue and now they were clearly opting NOT to honor the contract based on a reason that I clearly could prove was not accurate. I am very very disappointed in First American. I realize now that they're in the business of selling people a false sense of security. I paid them every single month hoping that if I ever needed them, they would show and help and obviously I was wrong. From all the other reviews I see here, it shows that they are truly crooks. I have no idea why they are still allowed to operate with the level of disappointment and heartache they cause their customer base.

Again, 4 years as a customer and this is how they treat me. I called them today and requested they email me or fax me the copy of my contract and the denial letter of the claim and they absolutely refused and stated they can only do that by mail. I explained that I am traveling and will not be home, to please make an exception and email or fax it to me. Again they absolutely refused and said that's not how they do things. If I want those documents, they will be mailed to me and it takes 7 to 10 business days for me to receive it.

My mom who has high blood pressure has been baking in the house for the over a week now. I'm trying to dispute this claim and resolve the matter and they are dragging it out... I guess they want to wear me out so I forget about the issue. But I have a news flash for First Am. I think what you did is wrong and I will continue to fight this because your reason for denying my claim is bull. I will patiently await for the letter and I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau as well.

Just prior to starting up the evaporative cooler which is mounted on the roof of our mobile home in Munds Park, AZ, our maintenance contractor performed his usual maintenance check and he coated the water pan of the evaporative-cooler on the roof with a good, brand-name sealant, which he has done the last few years. Our adult daughter went up there with her son the following weekend after the pan had four or five days’ "drying time". When she turned on the water to the cooler, after a short time, water began dripping out of multiple places in the ceiling below. She immediately turned off the unit and placed towels under the leaking places and called us here at our residence in Scottsdale. She could not use the cooler for the remainder of her stay, 2-3 days. It was very, very hot.

We called Home Depot in Flagstaff regarding buying a new evap cooler, and were told we'd have to use a contractor out of Phoenix (120 miles each way!) who when he called us back proposed to first drive to Munds Park to estimate the job, then they would go up with a crane truck to do the install. This would have involved 480 miles total trip charge!

We found a cooler here in a Phoenix Home Depot, loaded it into our station wagon and located a HVAC contractor in Flagstaff who did installations, drove the cooler to Munds Park and the installer did the job the next day in a satisfactory and workmanlike manner. We called First American Home Warranty before the unit was installed on an EMERGENCY basis due to the extreme heat we were experiencing (we are both in our 80's). We were told the claim was being denied because we should have called the insurance company first, before starting any work.

It seems to us we should be rewarded, not penalized, for stopping any further damage to the property. We also probably got the job done for much less than a claim would have been had we not acted as promptly as we did and had not done the transporting ourselves. We lodged a protest and were referred to a man who was in the Dominican Republic, and who requested we email him a copy of the receipts for the cooler and the installation which we did. Then the man, Jose **, said he needed a statement from the installer as to what he found when he got to the site. Despite the fact that there was a language barrier we did as he asked and then he told us "that's not a satisfactory receipt!" And he rejected the invoice we sent him. There was nothing that would satisfy him. It became obvious his mission was to deny, deny, deny.

By the way, we've paid into the warranty plan for five years. I believe that First American Home Warranty does not do business in good faith. I believe their primary mission is to collect our premiums without any intention of assuming any risk or responsibility, and most certainly without any expectation of ever offering a reasonable and righteous compensation.

What a Nightmare this FIRST AMERICAN HOME BUYERS IS: Their Customer Service is unprofessional. My KitchenAid range top burner stop working. I called FAH that I needed serv, they sent local tech out repair. When they left I discovered that the indicator light for the burner they repair no longer worked, so I contacted the tech to inform. Few months later my husband was preparing dinner and a loud blast from range occurred and my small grandchild was present with my husband it really scared them.

Now 3 burners stop working. We call FAH to adv and send out contractor, but not the previous contractor. Lo and behold I arrived home to find the same contractor that lied back to our home. I told them I requested you guys not to come back, so he left. And FAH sent new contractor out. My husband was present. The new contractor told my husband that range cannot be repaired, and he wanted to know who serviced our range. He told us he was surprised we didn't have a fire, because when he open the range he said all wires were crossed up causing a danger. He see why my indicators lights did not work because it was disengaged.

The contractor contacted FAH to tell them of problem and we need replacement. To make matter worse after HOLDING FOR SOME 39 MINUTES. They are willing to replace range but not my KitchenAid Elite range which is a step up to what their only option for me is Whirlpool. They cover features but not name brand. Also their low cost is nothing compared to what we paid for our range. They do not return calls and they NEVER address the problem that their hired contractor destroyed my range to non fixable, and they will not replace my name brand. I don't care what contract I have with them. I am cancelling and telling all people that I know not to use this sorry company ever again.

I had been a client of First American Home Buyers Protection for over 3 years and was happy with their services. That is till our refrigerator began having issues. We contacted them and they sent Sears who was a reputable company and seemed to do a great job. But after we had 8 different appointments and the issue remained I requested that we get a replacement as did Sears because they were not able to determine the issue. However First American Home Protection wanted to continue repairing it despite everyone's efforts to move for a replacement. According to the invoices left by Sears American Home Buyers protection paid over $4,500 in repairs but the issue remained. Once the 14th tech had come and gone and the almost every part had been replaced my wife and I just gave up and decided we wouldn't keep items on the top shelf or in the door that we did not want frozen.

Plus we could not afford to take off any additional time from work. In July we decided to renew our service and this prompted us to try again. We requested a different vendor despite Sears being great since maybe a different set of eyes would be helpful. After 3 visits and nothing changing (Except this repair company changed out 4 of the 6 items Sears changed out previously) I again asked for a replacement and asked them to stand behind the service I had paid for for all these years. They told me that I needed to contact another vendor and spend my own money and then they would reimburse me. So 10 months.... 17 service calls and they ultimately just tell me they will not repair or replace the item.

My water heater failed that First American replaced 4 years ago. The water heater itself is still under warranty. Because First American is so CHEAP and they pay their so-called plumbers a specific amount, the plumbers have to RIP you off in order to make any money on the deal. Because the water heater is under warranty, it's not worth the technician's hassle to go pick it up and replace it as First American only pays $110 to do so. So Home Warranty Plumbing and A-Plus Plumbing want to tack on and replace parts that have not failed in the water heater - like the gas line $100, to attach the valves, $100, new pan $70, reconnecting the water heater $150, yada, yada, yada. I had another plumber inspect it and he told me that if none of those parts have failed they do not need to be replaced, just the water heater itself. If the water heater wasn't under warranty the plumbing companies would be making a lot more money! TWO WEEKS AND ZERO RESPONSE. I pay $900 a year for this stupid policy and all they do is refuse to fix things once the problems arise.

After consideration, I no longer want or need your company's services. I've been a customer for almost 2 years and with the first claim I ever made, it was a complete nightmare! To speak with an agent shouldn't take an hour of hold time. You may want to consider hiring more customer service representatives to cut the hold time. I waited for a call back, for my AC issue, and it took so long I had to call back. I waited on hold another hour and 10 minutes before speaking with Kelly **.

I'm a customer that has always paid on time but when I needed you guys, it seemed to fall on death's ears. My AC went out originally on the May 28, 2013. I called and North Star Mechanical sent a guy to the house on May 31st. He was there for about 10 minutes, took my $60 deductible, and gave no feedback. The AC was working fine for 30 days and went out again. I called back and another AC technician was sent on July 2nd. He came out and said the box in the back of the house (called a disconnect) was burnt up. He told me he didn't have the parts to fix it and would come back the following day.

He came back on July 3rd with all the parts and said it would be $280. I didn't question it because it was hot and I wanted it fixed ASAP. He told me that an electrician needed to be hired because there was not a ground wire for him to set it up properly. Why didn't the first technician say anything about me needing an electrician? I didn't call back to hire an electrician through your company fearing your hold time and not wanting any more delays (as I was on day three without AC).

The North Star Mechanical technician told me that he would come back on July 5th to fix it if the ground wire was fixed. I called and spent $350 of my own money to hire an electrician. The gentleman came out and fixed the problem. I called the tech back on July 5th and he told me I had to call you guys and he would not get paid if he just came back to the house. The day before, he told me to just call him direct and he would come back! Due to your ridiculous hold time, I called North Star Mechanical and they told me they would have to get another request from you. So, I'm waiting on paperwork and reports to go back and forth and I'm supposed to have house guests and can't because the house is an oven!

SY-Miguel ** offered $150 toward buying a window unit. I spent $340, so the $150 is like a slap in the face! I supplied you copies of receipt. I had to pay an out of pocket expense of $550 for electrician and a window unit. I called back on July 6th and waited on hold for hour and 33 minutes. I begged for someone to get a technician to my house and they said they couldn't do anything until the following week. I have five people in my house and I was not waiting any longer! I called the North Star Mechanical technician back to try and just buy the parts from him since he already had them and I could just hire another person to complete the work. I had to leave a message. I felt that I was a bother to him and his company at this point. The technician called back and said he could come back on Monday (July 8th) for $280 and install the disconnect.

To sum it all up, I did some research of my own and discovered that the part was $10. I went to Lowe's, bought the part, and installed it myself! I supplied that receipt, too. Why do I need your company, or them? Why in the ** would he charge me that kind of money for a $10 part? That's ROBBERY! I was already out $550 and would have had to pay another $280 to get my AC fixed (for 5 minute job and a $10 part) if I would have used you and your third party company.

Put yourself in my shoes and tell me how you would feel. I have three rent houses and three other neighbors that were considering joining this company and there's NO WAY I would let anybody I know join your company, or use North Star Mechanical! PS: Kelly and Miguel both were great! I don't have a problem with them as they did try to assist me, but to get to them just takes way too long. Miguel did tell me to send in my receipts for the electrician, but he couldn't give me a guarantee that you guys would pay because I went outside the warranty. At this point, I'm not wanting the money back as I've learned a lesson about First American Home Warranty Company and North Star Mechanical. I will go elsewhere!

I'm an on time person and like things handled in a timely manner, and nothing about this company is timely. I didn't like being bounced between you and North Star as paperwork is sent and my house is a furnace! I waited two weeks to calm down before I sent this email just to make sure this was the best decision for me and my family. The anger is still there for being put through all this, and this was the first claim and the fact that I was going to be charged a total of $830 for a $10 part. CANCEL my policy!

I had a backed up sewer line under my house. First the Kitchen and laundry backed up, then the entire house. I called and told them I needed a plumber ASAP. They put the work order in and the plumbers that called were not available for over a week. I called First American back. They called some other plumbers and none of them were available. They agreed to let me use my own plumber. I called a well known local plumber. They came out and unclogged the lines. I had to pull my own toilet out so I didn't get hit with a $250 fee. They also found that there were cracks in my main line and my secondary line (Kitchen & Laundry) was broken all together.

The plumber agreed to call to get authorization to fix the lines. First American said it was too expensive and I had to wait over 2 weeks for their plumber to come back out. He came out on the 4th of July. He looked at the plumbing and said he would call me in a few days. He never called. After calling him for 3 days I finally called First American and complained. They didn't do anything about it. The next day I finally got a call for the plumber. He came out the next Sunday and fixed the plumbing. The day I had the lines unclogged, 3 weeks ago at this point, I paid the plumber and faxed the receipt to First American the very next day. It’s been over a month and I still have not received my reimbursement. I have called and waited so many time I am beyond furious with this company. I feel sorry for anyone who has paid for their services. As we speak, I have been on hold for over 45 minutes waiting for a supervisor to find out where my money is.

We bought a new home, and a home warranty from First American was included with the purchase. We have had 2 plumbing problems in the first year that we called them to fix. The first problem was in the winter. We had a hose bib break and was leaking. We put in a work order and a plumber came fairly quickly. I explained to the plumber what the problem was. I am pretty certain I also wrote in my work order what the problem was. The plumber came to our house for all of 5 to 10 minutes and then told us it wouldn't be covered. I feel someone could have told me this over the phone. We were charged $60 for this visit.

A few months later, I talked with someone at First American that said the claim was never denied and that a new work order would be submitted. We never heard from the plumber and ended up fixing it ourselves. I have had someone call to check if the work was done, but when I call back I am prompted to leave a message and nobody calls me back. What a waste of $60.

In the spring, we put in another work order for a clogged drain. The same plumbing company was sent out and again we were told this wouldn't be covered because there was no vent for them to go down. We charged another $60 for no work and told to call a rooter service. So $120 later with no work done and a refusal to refund any of the money, I am writing this review. I feel like I was ripped off and they could care less. Don't purchase a warranty from this company!

I am a renter. When I moved into the rental house I discovered the ac and the oven didn't work. I have to go through the rental company who then contacts First American. It took FA sending out 3 different companies to diagnose the problem (even though the 1st one already had). 19 days after moving in I finally got ac (I live in Florida). The last technician told me they hated working with FA because FA insists on doing the ordering of parts and invariably order the wrong part or size (which they did in my situation). Now day 48 and I'm still waiting on my oven. They sent out 2 different companies, one of them twice. The oven finally arrived today but could not be installed because it must be hardwired. So my new oven is sitting proud in my living room. Wonder how long I'll have to wait. Oh and at the same time I informed them of the ac and the oven, I also told them about the toilet that is not bolted down, actually missing a bolt. They sent a plumber about 6 days later but we never heard from him again. At first I thought all these problems were because of the rental company but evidently it wasn't. The only thing I hold them accountable about is not staying on top of the repairs even though I was making call after call to them.

ZERO STARS. DO NOT PURCHASE. We called every day, the wait times were 20 min to 3 hours. Most of the time it was 2 hour holds or call backs. We had both ACs go at the same time and had no air for almost 2 weeks. This issue WOULD NOT have been resolved (that's what they want, so there is no payout) without our wonderful real estate agent and Keller Williams getting involved. Our claim had been escalated to the so-called supervisor. She actually told me on the phone to fix it myself (again hoping there is no payout from them). I told her that will not happen. They pieced the whole job out so we had to have electrician, plumber, AC guy. I had my own AC friend look at who has been in business for years, and he said it was totally unnecessary to piece out, that his guys do it all and the elect and plumbing part was nothing but blow out pipe. We had at least 7 guys at 7 different times and some did not even show up. $1100 out of our pocket. In the end the job was done and has been okay for three weeks.

After a service call for a non working AC unit, First American Home sent a local dispatcher call or service request; this one would locate a technician in my area and schedule a visit to verify the unit and estimate the repairing cost within the same day. However if there wasn't a technician available in my area within that day, I had the option to call a professional AC technician to verify the unit and provide me with the estimate and repairing cost. First American Home called to inform me that unfortunately there wasn't a technician available for the same day and that I could call my own, which is what I did.

After getting an estimate for the repairing unit I contacted First American Home and the representative informed me that her supervisor thought the estimate was too high and now they need to send one of their technicians for an estimate. I never got an answer into why they thought the estimate was too high and never was informed that if they thought the estimate was too high they would need to send one of their technicians. So, in other words I had to contact a non expensive technician for them to approve it! I requested to ask to a manager and they transferred me to a VM that said that the manager works M-F 8am -5pm (This all happened on a Saturday).

Also, they claim they are available 24hrs/7 days a week and 365 days a year, but I wasted more than 3 hours on the phone just waiting for a representative to answer the phone. I think that is false advertisement, especially if they don't even have a manager on site to answer the customer’s questions/complaints. I wasted my entire day not only waiting for their call, but also waiting for the AC guy to identify what was going on with my AC unit and after that waiting to talk to a representative for 3hrs without a resolution. Now they want to send their technician and in the mean time I have no AC. I think this is a scam and something should be done about it. I am very disappointed in the home warranty purchased from First American Buyer and I thought that what I read online was all manipulated...Guess I was wrong! I'm a victim too.
