Whenever I have a problem come up and I have to file a claim with First American, I prefer calling and the contractors I've had so far have been great. They were quick and helpful, and right away, they were able to take care of what they needed to.

On October 7 I called First American Home Warranty (FAHW) for the service because pipe under kitchen’s sink has drainage problem (stuck) plus food disposal leaking. FAHW scheduled technician on Tuesday. But later changed to Wednesday. The technician fixed the drainage problem first for almost one hour. Then checked with food disposal and confirmed the leaking, further the plastic pipes under sink need be replaced, some if not all.
However, the technician said that he needs to report the food disposal to FAHW because it was connected with power cord outside of it. Even I requested him to change the pipe first, he expressed to solve disposal before he can change the pipes. Later FAHW rejected to replace a new disposal or pipes because the disposal was connected outside of the disposal is not complying with code.
The Warranty was bought by previous house owner as the deal in transaction when I bought this house in last December 2017. I can believe that even just turn off the switch that technician won’t get any hurt, but just this excuse to reject the service and ask customer to pay by himself. And I wonder why don’t they blame for the space too small for the power cord so hard to connect and put it inside of the disposal. If this little service FAHW doesn’t list to service, what kind of good service that FAHW can provide for all of other customers? Let alone you’ve to pay $75 each time customer to call for service. And now FAHW is shameless to ask for $75 for not finish the service and waste me much time for waiting. Don’t be fool to buy FAHW service anymore! Period.
We appreciate your feedback and look forward to being able to address your concerns directly with you.

We had a very bad experience with claim service. It is disappointing and frustrating when the claim has not been fixed after 10 days. First home warranty assigns the contractors, expect us to chase the contractor. The contractor commits that he will come on Sunday at 10 and later at 12 when we reach out to him, moves to 2-4. After which there is no response from the contractor. Till today, the claim is not resolved. On reaching out to first American Home Warranty to understand the time frame when the contractor would come down for the service (10 days past the claim date), the customer representative could not reach out to the contractor. I even proposed to the supervisor to change the contractor as the service is not yet delivered. First American supervisor tell us to wait for the contractor to respond. We do and nothing happens.
We take service from home warranty company, Don't understand why the company cannot take the responsibility of servicing the customer on time. Also there should be some minimum timeframe by which the service should be rendered. In my case it is 10 days and the service is not complete. Every time as customer we have to spend 30+ minutes on calls to understand the status for which we taken the service. I have never seen such a bad service model for a company whose main service is to cater to customers claims. I want everybody to be aware of the terrible claim service before deciding on for this warranty.

The First American warranty has been in our household for years. It's been through different houses. The claims process is relatively easy. I use the phone to do it and although sometimes, it takes the contractors a while to get out here, it's just a few days. It's still acceptable. And generally, they are very competent.

We received another bill for a $75 service fee. The frustrating part is they said we had been "unresponsive to previous efforts to resolve this account" and were going to turn the bill over to a collection agency! Ha! I can't count how many phone calls we have endured about this situation as well as photocopying info and sending it to them. It boils down to the fact that they sent a contractor out to do work that FAHW doesn't cover. When the contractor arrived, he said FAHW did not cover turbines. We paid him anyway, and he said to contact FAHW for a refund. We did and FAHW said they would refund the fee on our credit card, and they did.
Then they sent us a bill for a service fee for another contractor which we had already paid. When we called, they claimed that we double paid that contractor and they had refunded the double pay by giving us $75 on our credit card. Tonight--after an hour and a half--the guy said there was no record of us calling to dispute the turbine call and that there was no record of them agreeing to waive the service call fee. So, we paid another $75. Now we plan to call and find out what is involved in cancelling our contract and find someone else. I still can't believe they made us pay a service call fee to a contractor who did nothing because he shouldn't have been sent in the first place!!!

I prefer submitting claims with First American by phone and their representatives have been great. The technicians have been very good as well. I had two who came out today and they were foreigners so I had a little bit of difficulty understanding what they were talking about. But typically, the work First American's contractors perform is good.

Claim resolution is terrible. I have submitted a claim on Sunday December 2 for a bad hot water heater. Today is December 7. Still no resolution. The warranty company could not find anyone for over a week. I was instructed to find an outside vendor to give an estimate. On Tuesday the 4th I submitted a quote. Today is Friday. Still have not heard from anyone. The only contact I get is when I call them. This warranty company has the worst customer service I have ever seen. I have not had hot water since Sunday. I just keep getting, "I never got your fax," etc. I would advise not to use this home warranty company.

First American was recommended to us. We've only submitted one claim, but so far, we had a good and easy experience. I called and it didn't take too long for them to send a technician. It was just within 24 hours. One of the technicians that I was assigned to, came in. I wasn't home, but said they don't deal with that sort of repair. He went back quickly and somebody else was assigned. The next company that came tried to fix it but a part was missing, so they had to order a part. We had to wait a couple of weeks but they were diligent about it. They called me when they got the part, and they worked hard on trying to fix it and they did eventually.

I had a different home warranty company a long time ago when I had my old house and I was with them for seven years. But towards the end of that period, I didn’t have a good experience with them. I had something that needed to be repaired, but they gave me a hard time. After that, I sold that house and when we bought this house, we needed to have a different home warranty company. So, I googled and saw the review on First American, and we decided to use them. I've been calling them to submit a claim and my experience in doing that has been perfect. The first time, I had a claim for my washer. The contractor that contacted me did the repair right away and their techs fixed my washer on the same day. I was happy with that. Then something happened to the motor of our AC and the techs are now in the process of fixing it. Overall, the techs that usually come out to fix things have been perfect.

Realtor bought this for me and I paid for a second year hoping they would help me replace my HVAC, which was 20 years old so I didn't think it would last much longer. Instead of replacing, they were willing to pay $500 to find a part that is no longer in production to repair my unit IF I will dish out $1500 to upgrade my HVAC to comply with city code! WTF? If it's out of code, help me replace it! That's what I paid for! All their other coverage are the same. Basically, the monthly/annually fee you pay is a membership fee. Every time you need their service, you pay their associates a flat fee of $75 to fix it. Sometimes it costs more to hire a private plumber sometimes less to hire an exterminator. So for $50 a month, you can just pay a flat fee of $75.
That's what you get and if that had been how they marketed themselves I would have been okay with giving them five stars... But I would have never bought it because I have friends and family who can do most of these things for less than $75. My neighbor would benefit from First American. She's in her 80's and constantly in and out of the hospital and has no friends and gets taken advantage of by solicitors. She needs something like this so she has one place to go when she needs help with a busted appliance or pipe in her house. If that's you, you should buy First American.
Hi Axe. Our records indicate that your claim has been resolved. Thanks, Shanee.

I owned a home and lived in California prior to settling in Arizona and it had a First American Home Warranty and they’ve been really good to me. They’ve had great referrals and they usually make the repairs within three days and finish the job. But since moving to Arizona, their referrals have been questionable. This one plumber had to come back and forth, in and out of the house, four times. He didn’t fix the problem the first time, then he came back and replaced the hardware and he didn’t fix the problem. Then he had to come back the third time to set the hose in the back side of the toilet and then he came back the fourth time and he actually replaced the whole part. It took him four days to finish the job fully.
I complained about the plumber and suggested that they look for at least average-quality vendor to come and repair. I was concerned because I asked him if he was licensed and he said that he wasn’t and that he learned the trade from his brother. That explains why he had to come in several times. The last repair that I called was regarding my dryer and the contractor came in to look at the dryer. They said that they would have to order a part but it took about two weeks for them to receive the part. But other than those, First American has been great and the past repairs have been above average. I am very satisfied and loyal to their service because they’ve been really good for me.

I've done the online claim with First American and I prefer that over the call in method. Online they give me nine options and I'm like, "Oh, crap which one?" And then I had to go back. It's a pain. But when I do it online they automatically schedule me an appointment within 48 hours. There was a time I had to go back and resubmit a claim. So the issue wasn't resolved. But their technicians have all been great. They're professional and they explain what they're doing. They take care of what they need to take care of quickly and they are accommodating to our schedule. The actual work that they've done has been good quality work.

My experience with this company was the worst! I would say please save your money because when it comes to an emergency like sewage being backed up into your Home they will NOT have anyone out there within a reasonable time frame and when you call a plumber yourself the same day after they said they couldn’t find a contractor to come out there that day they will not refund your money in a urgent issue like this! I never like to write bad reviews but please save your money and chose a different home warranty! These people are not helpful and they rather take your money than put money out to help you when you are in need! Total scam company!

I've had First American coverage for 20 years and 99% of the time, I get a perfect service. Whenever I call in and explain what the problem is, they get in touch with the contractors. I've had problems with contractors when I wasn't able to get them out here promptly as I would have liked but that has nothing to do with First American. When something goes wrong, it's always urgent and First American always understands that. But for contractors, because they are scheduled by then for other service calls, they don't realize how important it is. Usually, it's about $100, $125 for a plumber or electrician to come out and they charge for all the parts and anything above and beyond diagnosing what the problem is.
But when I pay the $75 to First American, I feel like the problem is being handled from beginning to end 'cause no matter what happens, they're not going to charge me anything extra and I'm saving myself money. When we're lucky, there are years when nothing goes wrong all year and that's okay because I paid my premium and it's the sense of security knowing that if I need anything, I know who to call. I'm a strong believer in First American because we have a home and a rental property and I have their coverage there as well. I have referred them to many people and majority of the time, everybody is professional, they know what they're doing and I've never had a problem.
Thank you for the review Judi. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know how we are doing.

The reps have been polite and courteous when I do it over the phone. I usually get a call from a vendor within 24 hours after submitting a claim. Also 98% of the technicians throughout the years have been great. There's been like one or two that I was like “Mm, okay, you can't come back to my unit." It's just their attitude and how they handle business so it didn’t really have anything to do First American. And I haven't had any issues with any other vendors. I referred about 10 people to First American and 8 people have also purchased the service.

My washer was washing/spinning but would not progress to the rinse cycle on its own. First visit I was told they could find nothing wrong. I paid the $75 by check to the repair person. Problem persisted so I called First American Home Warranty again. Same person was sent out second time. I made him stay through the entire wash cycle so I could show him how I had to manually turn the dial to get a rinse cycle. We waited after the wash cycle quite a while to see if it would proceed to the rinse cycle on its own. He turned the dial and it proceeded to rinse, then said, "See, it's working just fine." He also tried to convince me that there is no agitation in the rinse cycle. When I protested, he became agitated and rude. Warranty company said they had no one else to send so washer is still not working properly. I kept getting billed for the $75 because the person they sent out did not submit it. I had to prove to them I paid the $75. I am not renewing my contract.

I call First American when I have a claim and they get my information then send somebody out. And so far, everybody, except the last contractor I had, was very competent. I called and explained that to First American and the rep I talked to told me not to pay the $75 deductible, so that was what I did. But the next time I called for a claim, they told me that they couldn't send somebody out because I didn't pay my previous claim. When I told them that their rep told me not to, they asked me who that rep was. But I told them that I don't get everybody's name that I speak to. In the end, they said that they wouldn't send somebody out until I pay that $75, so I paid it. I had no choice because I had a spring break in my garage door and I needed somebody to come and fix it.
At another time, my oven had a problem and when I submitted a claim with First American, the tech they assigned wouldn't answer the phone and they wouldn't return the phone calls. Finally, they sent somebody else and the guy that came out ordered the part, installed it, and everything was perfect. All in all, I would recommend First American, but they should retrain some of their employees.

I've had First American since 2007 when I moved here from California. They're good on who they select here in Idaho. When submitting a claim, everything is okay. The reps are great and responsive, except I never hear back after they tell me who they're gonna contact. A couple of months ago, I had a water heater problem, and APlus Plumbing came out to do the plumbing work. The plumbers that came out had their shoes completely covered so no dirt would come in. They were very sharp in their communication. They kept me updated with everything that was going on. However, I also had to be charged for an inspector permit. It was $100 and no one ever came out here and inspected anything.
Once First American selects something and I go back and challenge them, I don’t seem to get a positive answer. Once I call to make a report and asked them, “Why wasn’t this done,” they tell me to go to whoever came out. First American should really know what was going on between the two. Still, they're doing good and they do a excellent follow up. There's excellent communication by the company who they contract out to, and the companies were very good. I recommended several people to go to First American. In fact, I showed several people what they’ve done here recently and I'm very happy with them.

The water heater in my home has been broken for more than 2 weeks and just to get in contact with anyone from the company it’s an issue. I call each time just for them to promise to fix the problem and nothing is being done. They say they will call back but won’t have the common courtesy to do so. The prices they quote and the cashout process isn’t even reliable to fix the issue because it’s not correct at all. Honestly I feel as if this company is a scam, they won’t even release their last names when speaking to a customer. When I called to get help one time out of many they didn’t even type of the report when they say they would. This is very unacceptable and this is DEFINITELY not a way a real business should be ran.

We had a 60-foot tree come down on our yard and the whole back end of the deck was terribly weakened. All the steps were damaged, flattened and there was nothing there except debris. It was very traumatic. We saw the damage done and the tree had to be taken out of our backyard. The contractor came out when he was called up to and called us. I felt that he was really listening and looking at our situation. He was always very pleasant on the followup calls too. He had to look at the deck and he showed us that if we walk there, it’s wobbly. That’s really scary because I haven’t been out on it.
The deck has been compromised and all the undermining of this whole section of the deck had to be redone. We had to estimate getting a truck in, cutting it, and getting it all the way. We wanted two people to come and the contractors who came were very good, nice, courteous and fair. They felt very honest and I really liked them. I thought there was gonna be a meanness involved and there was none of that. Our experience was very good. I am very pleased with First American and I would recommend them to friends.

So. My home was built in 1985. The Moen shower faucet cartridge finally broke in the master bathroom. Rather mundane failure - the single stainless steel screw that holds the handle to the cartridge broke, leaving the body of the screw flush with the cartridge. The most common tool to repair this involves a simple pulley that screws into that very hole. Put in a claim, and a week later a repair tech finally shows up. Informs me that 1.) He can't remove the old cartridge, and 2.) Being 33 years old, it's probably stuck on the faucet assembly and can't be removed without further damage. My only option is replacing the whole faucet. He calls First American, and they tell him they won't cover the claim. I then call and they tell me that the cartridge was "improperly installed" (remember, 33 years ago!) And that I needed to prove I didn't break the handle screws on purpose!
I appealed the denial. I called today to see how that was going, and they informed me that they are standing by their denial and that the damage was probably due to excessive force turning on the water! I canceled my policy within the hour! Oh, and to make it more interesting, they told me that even if they did cover the repair, they wouldn't cover the hole on the wall needed to access the plumbing. I asked why, seeing how I upgraded to the premiere policy that said it included such things, that's when they informed me that they have a 1) basic policy, 2) premiere policy, and 3.) Premiere plus policy, and that I needed to have the add-ons on my premiere policy to cover those types of things. According to their tech, even if First American covered the replacement, they would need an additional 750.00 to finish the job.

I never really needed a warranty, but I figured that if my refrigerator goes out or I lose my dishwasher, it's comforting to know that I have this backup plan to get that taken care of in a pinch. My house also has central air and heating and cooling. So I figured it to be wise if I could afford the repairs, I might be saving money in the long run.
Everything with the reps from First American was great. There was no problem at all. I had one claim I had to submit when my icemaker stopped making ice, and where I live, we operate off of well water. I'm up in the mountains and that house was built in 2004. I have the same refrigerator from the original owner, and there is a sort of a sediment in the water that can build up over a long period of time. The fella who came out analyzed the problem right away. He knew he just needed to change one little part on the refrigerator which filters water and it was blocking the line. He got the icemaker going again. He was excellent, nice and even left his card. After the repair, the refrigerator has been perfect.
We appreciate the feedback, Noel!

I've been with First American Home Warranty for many, many years. They've had good service and I've had nothing but good luck with them. My claims experience with them has been good. I usually do it over the phone and the reps who have helped me were really good. I like First American's promptness and the quality of work that they do. I like asking the technicians questions about things. I had a technician out not too long ago to do some work on my clogged sink. I asked him what I could do to keep it from happening again, if I was doing something wrong, and whatever I was putting down my disposal. He explained to me what I should and shouldn't put down. So far, everything has been so good. I bought this house a couple of years ago, but last winter, the heater went out and their contractor came out and replaced some parts. They kept finding different things wrong with it and they replaced everything in it. I've recommended them.
Thank you, Max for the positive review. We appreciate you and your time.

We had to wait for approval of parts from First American and due to the weekend, However as per my previous and current resolutions with American Home Warranty, I am delighted that everything was taken care of in a very timely manner. I am not good with names, however my Claims Agent I believe her name is Kayla but not certain took care of both my Claims (1) Our Electric Stove and (2) our heating vent issues in an excellent manner. I am always pleased with my home warranty insurance company and will continue to stay with them. We now have a new Glass top Stove and our heat pump is working excellent.

Do not use this company. They lie and don't care about doing the right thing, or what's best for the customer. My HVAC went out in my home and they couldn't get anyone to come out for two weeks. The dispatch called me and told me that I could hire my own Furnace tech repairman and they would reimburse me. When I call to get it set up Jose (the supervisor) listened to the voicemail I had and said that he wouldn't honor the voice mail. They also canceled the appointment I had scheduled. My wife has a disease and can't be cold. This meant nothing to them. I called 7 times and each person refused to help.

Every time I’ve had an issue, First American has gotten people right out and handled the claims professionally. I generally call the claims in and I get right through to them. Plus, their reps have been very good. However, we live in a rural area, so sometimes it’s tough to get technicians. That has been the biggest challenge, but we get it sorted out eventually. Sometimes, they identify technicians that are far away, but there are closer technicians that they could use. For the most part, the quality of the technicians' work has been good. We had a plumbing issue that took a couple different plumbers to get resolved. They were good about getting it resolved though. It just took longer than it should’ve and they had to come back for a follow-up. I would recommend First American.

I've had First American here at my new house for almost one year in Oklahoma and everybody is not a participating contractor. When I put a claim in, nobody calls me. I live in a little town, but the little town is surrounded by the metropolitan area. I don't understand why they don't come. There's nobody on First American's list to come to me. With my last three claims, I had to find somebody and then submit the dollar amount. I had to pay for them, the money funnels through me, and I have to submit it to First American. Then, they approve it and they reimburse me. It's not too convenient out here.
Also, with my first experience, I needed a plumber. A plumber came and said he needed to rebuild the water heater and said he would get the part but he never came back. I had to call every week and ask if he was coming. He said he was coming and gave me a day. I waited on that day but he never came. And then it fixed itself. I wound up having another problem and they assigned it to the same guy. I told them he never comes. Now, I've got recommendations for the people that work in my town. I would just use the local plumber and a local heating/AC guy. Other than that, I've spoken to one of First American's reps through email and she was so great. She gets right on it. Also, they asked me if I wanna renew and I don't mind renewing because I need some type of coverage. It's expiring here in a week or two and I have to get on my research and see who services out here.
Thank you Allyson for your feedback!

I'm updating this review 1.5 years later, sorry! Yes, we took the cash check option but it was a headache that it took so much time for a simple ceiling fan that was available. I'm upgrading this company to three stars because, overall, we feel it was worth the money to have the warranty when owning a house, especially adding on the pool equipment coverage. The downside is that you have to spend a lot of time on the phone to make a claim, sometimes arguing about the quality of companies that get sent to repair something. Would suggest asking for a claims specialist whenever there is a hint of a problem.
Original Review: Dec. 1, 2018
We have had pretty good luck with this company in the past even though the quality of sub-contractors they assign to jobs is not always the best. They have usually sent another company or assigned a claims specialist for any problems we've had, however--at least after a lot of calls and time on the phone. This time it's been different. We had a ceiling fan go out on us recently and we have totally given up on even resolving the situation. The company they called, came and got the model number off the fan. We paid them the fee.
Our fan was bronze with a remote control. They said they would send us a "choice" of fans. We realized that we would probably not get a premium fan but what we got was a choice of ONE fan which was SILVER and had no remote. I checked on Home Depot and they had the same fan in bronze for the SAME price? How hard is that? The warranty company is not trying to make it right, either. They will send us a check for a minimum amount and that's it. Not satisfied with this outcome at all. PHOTOS ARE 1) Our Fan, 2) Silver Fan Offered, 3) Bronze Fan same price.
Hello N,
We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your ceiling fan claim. Our records indicate you accepted the cash payment in lieu of the ceiling fan replacement. You will receive your check in seven to ten days. Please be advised, your claim is considered closed.
Thank you.

I am a realtor and I recommend First American on a regular basis. I know what it does for my clients. The claims process has been seamless and fantastic. However, I've had a broken refrigerator for months and the contractors cancelled on me again today. It also took me two or three plumbers to get a new water heater when mine was leaking.
They would send out sub-superior contractors, who didn't even know what they were doing or the contractors were afraid that there was gonna be some expense to them, so they try to cut corners. I know that if something's broken it should be fixed. But they would be, "Oh, it's no problem. There's nothing we could do," and they would walk away from it. I've had that happen on countless things. It started when we had an issue with our air-conditioning about five years ago and they told me it was nothing. Thank God I pushed to say it was something because it was leaking in the ceiling and if it hadn't been resolved, and I haven't called and really complain and said, "Send somebody else," the drywall in my hallway would have come through into the house because there was a continuous leak.
So if they could make improvement on who they choose to work with, it would be a huge benefit to their company because the concept of the service is great. Being a property owner and having tenants, I think it's great for them to have a resource of who to call. But then, I also know that I have to be on guard to follow up with it, to get the job actually done. Nevertheless, I recommend them because they're as good as any other home warranty and I like my rep, but I think there's a lot of room for improvement.
Hi Crystal. Thank you for providing your feedback, we appreciate it.

First American is a good company and they always respond. For the most part, submitting a claim with them has been good, except for when our air conditioner went out. We had a lot of problems and it was a terrible experience. We had to stay with our daughter for two weeks. But we didn't change companies. We stuck with First American, and all the other claims have been great. The only thing that aggravates me, is that all the appliances in this house are old. And what they do is that they just patch up and fix the appliances. And a lot of times, the appliances probably need to be replaced, but I understand where they're coming from. Other than that, we've had excellent experiences with their claims reps, and the interactions with the techs were good.

When I first moved in the house, I also filed a claim when my AC went out and it was a converter thing, a small thing. I've also had my garage door opener go out and that was no big deal either. The technicians I had were very professional and informative. I've been with First American for years and it has been easy to submit claims over the phone. The only negative thing is that a lot of times, they don’t cover certain things that go wrong and you don’t find that out until a service representative comes out and you have to pay for them to be there but then they can't actually fix what they need to fix because it's not covered under warranty. But I understand that’s kind of how it has to be. But if they can't fix it, then I don’t think I should have to pay the service fee.
I had one problem with my air conditioning and the person that they sent out messed up my heater, which I didn’t know until heating season came around and then the heater didn’t work. And when they sent another person out, they said, “Well, whoever fixed this the last time, they fixed it incorrectly.” So they fixed it correctly and I had to pay extra because the first person they sent out didn’t do the AC part right. But for the most part I had been extremely impressed with who they sent out.
I've had somebody to come out and fix my dishwasher, and that guy was great. I always keep the names of the ones that I like, and then when I do call in for that service I would ask First American if they could bring those guys out again, and they were always really nice about that. They don’t just force you to people. If you have some people that you've used throughout the program, they'll let you use them again. So that’s cool and I have recommended them to friends.

We bought our house in July and have had several issues with it since. FAHW has been nothing less than difficult to work with. Currently our water heater won't stay lit for more than 24-48 hours and we are now on our third attempt to get it resolved with FAHW. Each time we've paid the $75 to have them fix the issue. This time they have finally decided it is time to replace the water heater, but want us to pay $700 to do so. I'm sorry, but what is a warranty for it you are going to charge me for the water heater and labor anyway. I could fix it for less!!
To top it off the fireplace also currently isn't working and according to FAHW it isn't covered. It is a part of the house, built with it - not added on, and it doesn't work. How could this not be covered? What does FAHW cover and not nickel and dime you for everything? This is ridiculous and I would recommend you go with any other warranty company but FAHW if you actually want quality service and a warranty company that stands behind their service.
Hi C'Anne. Your home warranty contact only provides coverage for items specifically mentioned as covered. Unfortunately, at the price point of your contract, it isn't feasible to cover all systems and appliances. Accordingly, the fireplace is not covered.

He wanted $600.00 to "fix" the problem. I called my old repair person. He determined a conductor was shot. He charged me $215.00 which First American reimbursed me. The second call brought the same repair company. It took two weeks to get my AC fixed as a new motor was needed. Way too long as motors are readily available in Daytona Beach. Then, the repair required a second service call to fix a clicking noise. That ended up a wire that the new fan was hitting. Things got fixed so the neutral rating. It just took too long and had an air of fraud associated with it from the contractor.

The claim was such an easy thing to do, but it was something that I would have had no way of knowing that it was that simple to do. No parts had to be ordered and nothing had to be fixed. It was a matter of a little pressure valve thing and a cover had come off of it. I asked one of the guys if I should have know about it and he said no. So he really made me feel better.
I would highly recommend First American based on the professionalism of the first people that came out to see me. My realtor bought my First American warranty as a gift for me when I bought my home. For the most part, First American has been great for me. They are responsive and helpful. Though I’m not always in love with their contractors, most of those that have been sent out have been good. However, there were a few who really didn’t know as much as they should. I don’t have time to wait with people because I work out of my house. I can’t afford to be sidetracked on things and scheduling with people who would come by. I need someone to come in, just do the job and fix it. It’s one thing if they come and research, and they need a part. It’s another thing when they come in, get the part, set it up another time and they still don’t fix the problem. The frustrating part is when they have to have someone else come out and fix it.
Things do break so it’s good to have a warranty company like First American, a protection company that supports you on issues and resolve them. First American has been very helpful that way. Definitely, you also get to save rather than going directly to a plumber, for example. One time, I had a plumbing situation before and they did great. Any time I asked First American to fix something, they sent someone out to repair the issue and they did a great job. I recommend First American all the time.

They have been able to help me every time I contact them, so I’m pretty happy with it. Within hours, the technicians are able to contact me to give more details about the problem, and so far, they have been able to fix the issue.
We’ve contacted First American a few times because of the different issues, and so far, so good. Sometimes, the repairs take longer than expected because of parts, but other than that, everything seems to be okay. We had an incident three or four weeks ago with my washer machine and I called the techs back to fix it because even though they installed the part, they didn’t fix it correctly. But the second time, they were able to get it done.

I have had this warranty for two years. First year one claim handled well. Year two first claim handled well, second, third & fourth absolutely horrific! It took 14 days to get a microwave replaced. The contractor requested replacement on the first day First American opted to repair. Contractor installed parts unit blew up again immediately. Was offered a cashout or a cheap replacement. Took the cash out & purchased a good replacement.
Water heater went out. First contractor told me they would be out in four days. I called first American & they got another contractor to come the next day. Due to first Americans rules he had to wait 3 days for a water heater. He then had a family emergency & First American said “He will install it in a week.” A household of 10 with no hot water for 14 days is unacceptable. Finally with a lot of phone calls I was able to get a 3rd contractor. He installed 2 days later but he had to put 2 new pipes on that the warranty doesn’t cover. Two 15 inch pipes apparently cost $400 dollars which I had to pay for.
Now my fridge has quit. I answered all their questions about brand, type... First American assigned a contractor right away. I called to set up the appointment & the contractor said “We don’t work on your brand. We have told First American several times we don’t, but they don’t really care.” So now I have spent 3 hours on the phone trying to get another contractor. Was told it could be 48 hours before someone comes out. With their track record I am guessing my family will be without a refrigerator for 10-14 days. Just called back to see if they had made progress & the “customer service “ rep hung up on me. I am a believer in a home warranty just find a company that knows how to take care of their customers. I was told in purchasing my home that a home warranty is a good thing to have. I got First American and their website is user-friendly. I go online when I submit a claim and there’s a response within seconds saying that this person will be out and that they’ll call me to set up the date. It always goes very quickly and I’m very happy with it.
Having a First American home warranty is valuable. I was heartbroken the last time I used them, but it wasn’t to their doing. I have to pay the money once I file the claim and I thought my garbage disposal was broken. When they came out, it had started working and I didn’t realize it. I still had to pay the 75 bucks but it wasn’t their fault. Even if I had discovered that it started working, I still would have been responsible for it. That’s their business, so I couldn’t get too upset about it. Other than that, I've always had good interactions with the contractors that come out. They did a lot of work last year on my air conditioning, and whoever they sent out was good too. Overall, I’ve had nothing but good results and quick responses with First American and I’d refer them.

We got First American Home Warranty when we bought the house and it has been 13 years since we've had them. I just call them on the phone when I submit a claim and it works fine. Being located in the desert, it's hard to get some people out here that they use. They allow me to sometimes pick a local person in emergencies and pay them, and then they'd reimburse me, which is nice. The technicians that they’ve sent out were very professional. I've told a couple of people already about them and they’ve changed from theirs to First American. In fact, my daughtdeer in California is one of them.

We have had First American Warranty for 1 1/2 years. We have had small repairs throughout the year and they did fine. However, recently our A/C coil was leaking and needed to be replaced. The company they sent out to do the repair was notorious for poor workmanship and dishonest dealings. This company informed us that the total cost was $1500 to replace the evaporator coil ($500 of which we would have to pay, leaving $1000 to be paid by First American).
We called 3 other companies in the area to get quotes on replacing the coil and all 3 gave us a total of $1500. Because of the contracted company's reputation, we called First American to get a payout so we could go with a different company. They offered me $350!!!! This wouldn’t even cover the cost of the part. We have filed a complaint on BBB, with no resolve. I have also left messages to speak to a manager twice and never gotten a callback. All we want is our A/C fixed by a reputable company.

First American's warranty was what we were given when we first got our house 19 years ago and we’ve kept our warranty with them ever since then. I've usually called on the phone to submit a claim with them and that has been pretty good for the most part. There was one time a few years ago, though, when they didn’t respond and I had to keep going back to them, but they’ve been really good ever since. The last tech that was sent out for our garbage disposal is a nice kid and he was amazing. He did everything in one trip and did not have to go back to the store to get anything. He was proactive and had what was needed with him, which was great. Everybody there has been really good and our issues have always been resolved.

My mother wanted to get First American home warranty because we have stuff here that we’re gonna have to pay out of pocket eventually and she didn’t wanna do that. First American was decent and their guy had a good pitch. We called them when something went wrong with the oven, spoke about it, and they recommended Sears. We dealt with Sears way back many years ago and they’re not reliable. First American assigned a Sears person for us to come out on a Friday, but he was a no show, no call. Then they sent some other knucklehead out here and he was five hours late. He didn’t do anything because I scared him off.
First American assigned another company and the guy came through, apologized, and did the job. I told him what I needed him to do and he said he didn’t like it, but he still asked me to let him change something. He did a good job. There was no more customer service. First American needs to cut Sears from their itinerary and not deal with them. I told a lot of people and I suggest that they need to have a monitoring system like someone who deals with one of their customers. They need a log for their customer so we'll be able to trace back who is not representing their company correctly. They also have to really pick and choose who they want to really represent their company because nowadays we find that they don’t have that sensitivity of being compassionate towards other people.

Hot water supply line was leaking inside the wall, called First American. They could not get anyone till 3 days later, we turned off mainline, with galvanized pipes, the rust can block the leak, plumber came could not see the leak, though was shown corroded elbow that was still wet and sheetrock soggy around it. We turned water back again, few hours later leaking again (Thanksgiving Eve), called Ins again, advised they do not have anyone and I should call same plumber day after Thanksgiving, which we did.
Plumber comes out claiming that no dielectrical nipples installed which was installed, but dusty, and of course they denied the claim, been on the phone for hrs with Ins again sending pic that it has dielectric nipples, they say the earliest they can send someone is 5 days from now. We have been with no hot water for 4 days. Terrible ins. I have tried American Home Shield, Select and basically they are all the same, thieves and will make up reasons to deny the claim, in spite of the misdiagnose and sending incompetent plumbers. Stick with HomeAdvisor and get decent rates and no need for hassles and spending hours on the phone.

Our First American home warranty was part of our house purchase deal on the first year and the sellers paid it for us. We got to pick who we wanted to go through. Our realtor uses First American and he said he had had really good experiences with them versus the other people that he had prior to them. I also did a search on First American versus the other ones and they had better customer reviews. I’ve had around three claims over the last 17 months and they've been really easy. I pay the $75 and that’s it. The contractors contact us and it takes between 24 and 48 hours for them to come out. I've had a very good experience with First American and it is very important to have a warranty on our property so we renewed it.

I called First American and told them that their contractor didn't repair the leaks and that I would have to get someone else. The man from First American told me it'd be $100. I was confused since I already paid the $100. The contractor was supposed to change the pipes but he did nothing. It's still the same pipe according to my pool person and it's gonna burst if they don't change it. When they send someone next time, I will have to stand down there with them and watch them because they are not doing the work. Each time up until the end, First American has been right with me, helping me but the contractor that they sent out has not done what was supposed to be done. At this point, the problem is still not fixed. So, it's not a good experience. I'm very dissatisfied and I'm not pleased with them at all.

First American Home Warranty came with my house and it has been easy submitting claims with them. I could either go online or call, but going online was easier since I could do it any time. The interactions with their reps have always been good and usually, after I submit a claim, they would get someone out here no more than three days. However, I had a problem with one of the technicians trying to get my refrigerator repaired. I called First American and they told me somebody was coming out but they did not show up. I called First American back and they said so and so is coming and again didn't show up. One time the tech said he wasn't scheduled for that day, but he worked because I talked to him. We had a bit of an argument on that, but First American got that fixed. Overall, with the quality of work done, everything has been good. I've also got an appliance replaced with them, so that was good too.

Our 1st call was handled beautifully. Then we called them about replacing a turbine on the roof. We wanted to know if that was covered under "attic fans." The 1st person told us it was NOT covered. When we called for clarification, the next person told us it WAS covered and sent a worker - Connerly Electric. The worker arrived and said it was NOT covered. We gave the worker the $75 fee by check. The worker said to contact FAHW for a refund, because the worker should never have been sent out. We did, and FAHW refunded the $75 by crediting our credit card even though we had paid by check. We thought everything was settled.
This week we received a bill for $75 from FAHW. When we called, I had to go through 3 people explaining the situation each time. The 3rd person, Yvonne, said FAHW should NOT have refunded the $75 and that we had to pay it again. We don't understand why we need to pay a fee for a service call that FAHW should never have scheduled in the first place. This seems like a mistake on their part. They need to better communicate to their call center workers what is and what is not covered. If we would have been told it was not covered, we would not have scheduled a service call. Why do we need to pay for FAHW's mistake?
Hello Sharon,
We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your electrical claim. Upon review, in the interest of customer service, your $75.00 service call fee was reimbursed. Please be advised, you will receive your check in seven to ten days. At this time, First American considers this issue closed.

To submit a claim, I'd call in, make the order, and wait for someone to contact me. Then, the issue would get fixed. Their reps were very professional and helpful. It takes a day or two to schedule a contractor. Once, we had to delay the visit though. They were ready to come and we couldn’t be available, but they were very flexible. The interactions with the contractors were cordial and casual. They’d ask where this was and I’d show it to them. Having the warranty is very valuable for peace of mind, security and comfort. I do it online then I receive a call within the next day and we would go from there depending on my schedule. The contractors explain the process and then if there are any issues, they explain it a little better. I would not recommend First American Home Warranty to anyone. I can't tell if it is them or Sears that is responsible but I think it is both. As of today, I have been waiting seven weeks for a dishwasher to be repaired and they have moved the repair date again from 11/26 to 11/30. If they actually show up that day it will be 8 weeks!! That is unacceptable. I have been very patient for a long time, but it appears that Sears has no accountability to anyone. If their technician reschedules there is never a reason given. I will never ever recommend either one of these companies to my circle of influence. First American should look into another repair company. Thank you, I hope that helps someone purchase a different home warranty company.

BAD... BAD and Very BAD experience from FAHW and am really skeptical if you are real company. The issue on water heater was raised on 14th and today it is 20th and till date the issue is not resolved. The contract company you guys sent said that they are placing the manufacturer's warranty for the parts and they waiting for it and when we called them for update, they just put us on hold for 40 minutes and disconnected the call. Every single time same experience.
I have been calling FAHW as well as you guys don't have courtesy to update customer on status nor to acknowledge the messages. Such a bad company FAHW. Finally when I called today FAHW mentioned that the manufacturer warranty product should be covered under them but the fact is the Manufacturer warranty will be covered only if I am the primary purchaser of the product whereas I am a home buyer here and the manufacturer will not cover the warranty to new buyers.
As a home warranty company you guys should be knowing this and I wonder why you guys redirected to manufacturer's warranty. I wonder why in the world would we need to add water heater to extended coverage with home warranty (FAHW) if you guys won't cover and redirect to manufacturer's warranty. Finally in this case as the Manufacturer's warranty don't cover this. Please go ahead and do the needful to have my water heater fixed and working by today as already am suffering without water heater for last 1 week and along with it bad service and lot of time waste in calls with you guys as well as off days from work and stress out of all these.

The house had been sitting empty for a while and we decided to acquire a warranty. Our realtor friend recommended First American Home Warranty. He felt that it was one of the best on the market. I’ve been with First American for about eight years now and I file my claims online. Thus far it has been very straightforward. We live out of town though and some contractors are excellent and some are dreadful. We had one instance where a plumber did some work, didn’t get the problem fixed properly and he kept scheduling to come back but he never came back. We had to get somebody else to come and do the repair.
Also, First American used to deal with either Acme Pool or Green Valley Pool and any time that we've had Acme, they’ve been really poor at responding and have a very lackadaisical attitude about getting things fixed. They just did some service on our pool recently when they took our pump apart and ordered parts and when I called them to ask how long before the repairs are completed, the rep said that their pool repair techs are out on a course for another week. They didn’t have anybody who could tend to our repair.
Unfortunately, First American doesn't deal with Green Valley anymore who gave phenomenal service before, so we’re stuck with Acme Pool. I wish that they'd get rid of Acme and go back with Green Valley. But overall, our experience with First American has been really positive. We have owned a bunch of rental properties and we’ve got warranties for the rental properties through First American as well. It has been worth it for us because we have a big house. We have two fridges and we’ve got a pool. Now, we have the peace of mind knowing that if any of those things go wrong, we’ve already covered it with a home insurance warranty.
Thank you for the feedback, Carolyn.

When I bought the house, the realtor recommended First American and I've renewed with the company every year since then. Except for high consumer things, such as air conditioning in summer, everything else has been quick and easy to deal with. I submitted a claim with First American by voice, but now, I’ve been using online because I find it very easy. Doing it by phone was fine but it's a bit lengthy. I go through a lot of “Press this, press that, press the other.” But when I do it online, it’s a lot quicker and straightforward. But both methods work.
I have the ability to pay the fee of $95 online but a couple of times, I’ve not done so. I said I’ll pay First American, but the company never sent me a bill, so I ended up ringing them up and submitted it that way. I don’t know if the interaction with the company about this $95 payment is actually linked. But that’s the only issue I’ve had recently. The techs that they've sent out have all been great. There was only one occasion where somebody didn’t fix an issue, but somebody else came straight out. Over the last five years, everybody’s been very good.

I spoke to some realtors who said that First American is what they use as well. The warranty was offered to us by the sellers of our house and we got it. We are military and we’re in a house only for a few years, so the least amount of money we can invest into it, the better. Submitting a claim with First American has been simple and I usually do it online because that’s easier. The only issue we had was when we were trying have our AC fixed. It was during a heavy time, so it took a while to get somebody out here.
First American finally told me to look for somebody myself but if the cost of repair was over a certain amount, it was gonna be added to the cost of that work, then we would have to get approval. When the contractor arrived, I had a great interaction with them. Luckily, the AC didn't become a big issue and the contractor just charged me their come-out fee which would have been about the same amount I would have paid for the warranty service. Like the plumber we had out, the AC contractor was very thorough. We also had an electrician out before. Overall, the claims process with First American has been painless.

Our ice maker claim was submitted five months ago and the gentleman who came out, Jeff, looked at the unit. He said that it needed to be replaced and that he was going to order it and it was gonna take a couple of weeks. He also asked me to close the call out and in my naiveness, I did. Two weeks later, I got a call from him saying the ice maker was in, so we did a service call agreement. When he was going to come out, he said he was backed up on another call and he needed to open up another four-hour callback time. I couldn't because I do shift-work and I needed to go in to work. We were going to do another callback, but I had to cancel the second time.
The third time, they cancelled on me again and I let it go, but I had somebody move in and we called Jeff back, but he said the call was complete and it wasn't. He asked me what kind of refrigerator I had and then said he'll deliver an ice maker from the warehouse. I live in a gated community and when he came to deliver it, he couldn't get in. I told him he would have to go around the other gate since the police department closed it down and he hung up on me after saying that it would have been nice to know before he drove all the way out. I thought this man was gonna be agitated and put my dog outside, but he was nice when he arrived. He put the ice maker in and said I was gonna have ice in four hours. When he came out, my friend and I watched a movie, came back, and we had no ice.
I called in the next day and got no response. It was the weekend, so I called on Monday and explained I didn't have any ice. Jeff told me to call my homeowner's company again and First American told me that because the call had been so long, I was gonna have to pay to have someone service out again. Jeff agreed that it was too long. One, I should have never closed the call out. Two, I had to convince him he replaced it. He knew the business and he knew exactly what he was doing, but I was willing to work with him to get the issue fixed. He said he would call me back, but he never calls back. He was rude and he hung up on me. My roommate, Jillian, heard him and asked to speak to him. We weren't gonna get far arguing, so I told her to go ahead.
She called Jeff this morning and he was irate with her as well. He said that we, women, do not understand that he was not gonna come out and we do not understand how ice makers work. He said it's been five months and he wasn't coming back out. She explained everything to him and when the call ended, he called her a ** and hung up. She called back wanting to speak to his supervisor and he said he owns the company. Jillian told him that we understood what he was trying to say and asked if he preferred to talk to our male roommate and he hung up on her again.
I was upset that he belittled us. He was irate from the beginning and he was extremely derogatory, demeaning and racist. He was not very professional or respectable. I called First American as soon as I spoke to Jillian and I spoke to a nice lady who apologized and said they were gonna send a different contractor. On a different note, I called for my washing machine recently and it was fixed and resolved through another company. I would recommend First American.

The reps of First American Home Buyers does good service. Most of their contractors also do a pretty good job. The washing machine guy acted professional and was courteous. The only problem they had was that they had the wrong phone number. The phone number they were calling was disconnected and it wasn’t even my phone number. I live way out on the top of a mountain and they drove up here. It was even after they couldn’t get a hold of me and verified what was wrong. But they were able to order the parts. They came the following week and fixed it.
Also the biggest problem with First American is finding contractors that work with them. A part of it could be where I live. But then again, they shouldn’t be selling warranties if they can’t supply the service. I had a air conditioner problem and they had fits trying to find somebody. They kept trying to get me to find somebody, and I said, “No. I pay you to do this. You find somebody.” And so they finally found somebody that came out. I was charged up to three times, and then they quit so First American had to get somebody else.
The next thing I know, the motor blew out of the air the conditioner, so they knew I wasn’t messing with it. They had to replace everything. A year went by and the air conditioner went out again. An old man from here in town, came out and wired it and got it to work. As far as the effort First American put into it, they do good. I’m gonna continue using them until I sell the house. I’ll also probably put a year’s warranty on it for the other people, and then I’m done.

We submitted a claim with First American Home Warranty for them to come out to fix our drain. I contacted their contracted plumbing company and I asked when they could come out. I also told them that I haven’t washed the dishes for four days and that I was running out of glasses. Though they had the appointment scheduled for three days up, they came the next day and took up to two hours to clean out the drain.
The tech was a very professional young man. He had some help and they did what they needed to do. They solved the issue for me. However, $35 was still required and I had a card, but the tech said that he didn't take cards, so I told him to just send the bill. A lady called me the next day and stated that they bill First American. I said yes and she said that First American would be sending them a bill. I said that it was fine and to send me a bill. I would write them a check or I would do whatever that needed to be done. I didn’t have $75 in cash and when the tech came by once more, I assumed he would take a card, but he didn’t.
Still, the whole experience with First American was really good apart from the payments terms and the vague area of not knowing when they were gonna come. The submission process was very simple, although it was a bit confusing at some point. It was quick and the rep was done in about 20 minutes. He was very efficient and very knowledgeable with the claim. I said that my drain was clogged and I’ve taken everything apart in the sink twice. While I put it back in place, it didn't go down. I didn’t realize that the problem was part of the policy at all, but it was, so FAHW had that dealt with and it was great. They did what they should do and I had a good experience. Though the drainage company was dragging out, it was fine. Overall, First American has been fantastic and I recommend them.

Last summer, we were having family in town for a week. As it happens, the air conditioning went out. The first contractor they called out said that someone put a screwdriver through the coil. First American said that they would not continue with the process until the coil was fixed. So, I called another company and had them come out and they said that there was no problem with the coil and that the condenser was out and there was no Freon. I had the guy take pictures of the coil and sent them to First American. It took over a month before First American would finally agree to fixing the condenser and have freon put back in. Mind you, this was June in Nashville. I had to put my guests up in a hotel when I had two perfectly good guest rooms that were at 85 degrees.
My latest fiasco is happening now. It is November and we are having weather in the 40s. The heat went out. They scheduled the first contractor from the problem above. I called immediately and told them that they were not allowed on my property. They scheduled another HVAC guy. He came and said that we needed a blower motor. First American took 3 days to order the part. They scheduled another contractor to come out. It has now been 8 days without heat and my living room is at 52 degrees even with the fireplace going non-stop. We still have no idea where the part is or when it will be fixed.

Updated on 11/23/2018: I spoke with your representative a few days ago, but your company doesn't get the issues. Your claims department received full explanation of problem in both cases but did not ask enough questions and said both claims were covered when in fact they were not. The service fee on the garage door was ultimately waived after I forced the claims department to go back and listen to the phone call when claim was made. The person who called me called the issue with the pool an actuator "valve". My pool guy, who found the problem called the device a "valve". When I placed the claim I referred to the defective device as a "valve". The claim was accepted using that terminology.
I later find out the "actuator valve" is part of the pool management system. Nowhere in the policy does it call any device an actuator and show no coverage. How would one know this is part of the so called "pool management system"? In both claim denials, I was never notified by the company of the denials. It was only on my follow-up calls was I told the claims were denied. First American Warranty system is flawed both from a claims processing standpoint and from a customer service perspective. I stand on my claim that I would never again use First American Home Warranty and will continue to advise others not to use your company. Did I mention that your company charged my credit card for an additional month of service after the policy was canceled and for a month where I no longer lived in the home? Well, your company did! What kind of customer service is that?
Original Review: I have used First American Home Warranty on two occasions. My first experience was fairly good but my last experience was not so good. I submitted two separate claims and over the phone in screening for the claim coverage, I was told the insurance would cover the claim each case. When the technician came out for the first claim, I was told that the claim would not be covered and the technician tried to sell me an alternative product. This was for a garage door opener that had jammed. First American proceeded to bill me for the co-pay even though not covered. When I had them go back and listen to the phone call when the claim was made, they finally waived the co-payment.
On the second claim, my pool man called the actuator a valve, so when I called to make the claim, I described the problem as being a pool valve. When the technician came out he told me he didn't think this was covered. He called it an "actuator." I contacted First American and they said this was not covered as part of management system. Nowhere in the policy does it refer to an actuator and valves are covered. They forced me to pay the co-payment even though not covered.
At worst this was a mischaracterization of the issue by my pool man. When we moved and I terminated their service, they approved the termination and then turned around and charged me the next month's premium the next day. I disputed this charge with my credit card company but they insisted the charge was part of the contract. Bottom line was I paid premiums for approximately 18 months, filed two claims which were both denied and was charged an extra month premium for nothing. I would never do business with this company again.
We appreciate your feedback and look forward to being able to address your concerns directly with you.

I bought First American Home Warranty in July and since then, I’ve already submitted three claims. The most recent one was for my pump house. My water system stopped working. I filed for it on the telephone so that way, I got to go back and forth without having an email back and forth and waiting. First American told me that when I have no water, it was more of an emergency and that we needed to get it repaired quickly. I asked them if the people who installed it years ago was on their list and they said yes. So, within an hour, everything was taken care of. It was a terrific experience. In fact, I’ve sent several people to First American to buy their product, and they have already.
We appreciate your feedback, Tom!

Recently, I filed a claim to First American for my gas stove. The electric starter and a couple of burners weren't doing what they were supposed to do. I spoke to a rep at First American and told them what the issue was. They gave me a claim number as well as the name of the company that they would be contacting. Thereafter, their technician came out and I went over everything with him. He was very polite, kind, young gentleman and he knew his business.
I’ve been with First American for over 20-some-odd years, and every single person that they have always sent out had been very kind and very attentive, have done a beautiful job of fixing what needed to be fixed. Also, my service fee is only $65. That covers the service person coming out here, repairing it, doing everything that needs to be done. To me, that’s nothing and the policy is reasonably-priced. I have nothing but high praise for First American and I highly recommend them. Being elderly and retired, I look at the money that they save me by having this policy.

I've submitted three claims to First American over the years and doing it was very easy. The only thing that could be improved would be the response time of getting someone to come out because I had to wait a couple of days in line for the last claim. Everybody was ahead of me, but that was to be expected. The techs that came out were perfect and they knew exactly what they were doing. They did awesome work. The biggie was the water heater and I'm glad the tech did it. First American provides a very needed service and I have certainly appreciated it.

Everything has been great as well whenever I deal with their reps. Also, the last tech that they sent out was really good. He knew what he was doing. He had actually been here before because we had the same issue a year or two before. He remembered us and he remembered what the issue was, so that helped him to resolve this second issue. My wife had used American Home Shield but they gave her a hard time on all the claims so we decided to try something different and got First American. I go online when submitting a claim and I like the website greatly. Once, I had a problem with a heating and air company. It took them four months to fix my heating and air in the summer. While I did let First American know I was having problems, they couldn't get the contractor to do anything much either. But other than that one very bad company, I've never had any trouble with anybody else. First American saved my butt. I pay them about $800 and I get that back in one claim on heating and air. It's like having an insurance policy. You don't need it until you need it. I recommend them all the time.

FA has proved itself to be nothing more than a scam company who will gladly take your money in exchange for nothing in return. I recently purchased a home eight months ago. The home is over thirty years old so my realtor purchased a FA warranty for me. Recently I came home and found my basement floor covered with water because of a leak in my hot water heater. It was late evening and the leak was not too bad plus I was still getting hot water so I decided to wait until the following day to get a plumber out to confirm where the water was leaking from. By the following evening (Sunday) it was pretty evident to the hot water heater was the cause of the leak and needed to be replaced.
Because the problem occurred unexpectedly I had forgotten about my warranty with FA. Therefore, I contact the local Home Depot and made arrangement for them to send one of their contracted plumbers out to replace my hot water heater. Since it was a Sunday evening I waited two hours before the contractor called me and said they were unable to locate a plumber who was available to come out to install a new hot water for me. At that point I went to the Home Depot and purchased a hot water heater, found a licensed plumber who was willing to come and install the unit for me.
A few weeks later I remembered the FA warranty my realtor had purchased for me. I called them up and ask if they covered replacing a hot water heater. The agent I spoke with said they did. I explained to him that I had already replaced the unit and wondered if his company would be willing to reimburse me for the cost of the hot water heater and the installation. He suggested I send an email explaining my situation to claims department for review. Well I sent the email (explaining my situation including receipts and pictures of the installed unit) and received a response from them denying the reimbursement. The reason they denied it is because I didn't follow the protocol in the contract, which states that if I have an issue I needed to file a claim and they will send out one of their contractor to fix the problem.
At first I was going to let it go and then I decided to call their customer service to find out if they would be willing to at least reimburse me for the cost of the hot water heater. Again I was told no because I did not file a claim with them so they could send out one of their contractors to fix the problem. I explained to the agent that the water heater broke on a Sunday evening and no plumbers were available at that time so I doubt that her company would have been able to find anyone to send out as well. Her response to me was they would have bee able to get someone out within eight hours, which is ridiculous. I ask her if me waiting eight hour to have someone maybe, or maybe not show up made any sense to her. And, was I suppose to go without hot water and a flooding basement for that long and possibly longer. Of course I did not get a response from her.
The moral of my story is FA and most warranty companies are nothing but scams. They are happy to take your money but have no intention of ever paying you a dime when you need them to do so. I understand that I did not file a formal claim with them. However, I was faced with an emergency situation that needed to be address as soon as possible, which is what I did. Unfortunately, FA didn't see it that way even though I provided them with receipts from the Depot and the plumber in addition to pictures of the new hot water heater installed. The least they could have done was reimburse me for the hot water heater.
Of course, how silly of me to think a warranty company like FA ever had anybody's interest in mind other than their own. They scammed me once but they will never ever scam me again. Anybody who is considering a home warranty company stay as far away from FA warranty as you can. They are nothing but a scam.

Gas company showed up, opened a line and proved gas was going to the heater. FAHW contacted me two days later saying I need to give them $450 to cover the cost of the "modifications" for the repair. I had First American when I bought my home and kept it. All the reps were very professional. However, when we called in and put in a claim, it seemed like it always showed some company that was not even here in the Palmdale and Lancaster areas. They were always contracting out to somebody that has to come up from the Valley and take an hour and a half ride to get to me. First American was right here in the area so, I had to go back and forth with them. I told them who I wanted and they told me that they may not be available. So then, I tell them that I understand they may not be available, but these are the people that I really want to come in my house.
First American had a company come here from down below and they were not professional and was rude. They did the work but I wasn't that satisfied. So, the next time that I had a situation that encountered that same type of work almost to be done, I told them I didn’t want these people coming back to my house. When I initially bought my home, I knew they were gonna call All American Plumbing. They were right here and not even 20 minutes away from my house. I knew who I was gonna be dealing with and if I needed to drive over there for something, I knew I can drive there to do it. These other people coming in from somewhere else act mad when they get here because they had to drive through all that traffic to get up here in the mountains where I live. We're in Antelope Valley but it's the mountains. So, people have to travel.
I would love for First American to take note and see what companies they have that have their businesses here and who have some availability. Also, you got to wait for the people to call. The rep from First American gave me the telephone number and name of the company which they told me to call if I didn’t hear from them on that day. In some cases, they do. However, in other cases, they will call you through the next day or two days later because of their scheduling.
I gotta be smart and when the rep gives me the number, I would call the contractors after we hang up. I would ask them if they see an order for me. They would check and if they were booked up, they would ask if it would be okay to have somebody the next day which would be fine. First American should let us know what and how many companies they have in the area. Their reps said they didn’t know because everything is computerized. They just put the information in there and it spits out these different companies.
A pipe burst in my laundry room and First American had the plumber come in to fix the problem. However, when it came down to the damage that the water did, I had to use my homeowner's insurance and they had to get in contact with our contractor that came here who got all that stuff out and re-put in all the drywall and stuff in my laundry room and redid it.
My daughter just recently got their plan from First American when they bought their home. I would recommend it because it's a thing that you need. Any homeowner should have something like that because it comes very handy. Going through trying to use your mortgage insurance is crazy. The more you use your mortgage insurance, the more it goes up, every time you file a claim. You gotta give the people $75 to come in and fix and repair or replace whatever the problem is and this is affordable.

I asked for a different company and they said, "Well if we go with someone else they will have to order the parts again..." I said that is fine. When I bought the house that I'm living in four years ago, it came with a First American Home Warranty that was paid for one year. When I make a claim, a phone call is easiest. I tell them my problem and they ask for my number, address, or account number. They also ask on when they can send somebody out, and that they will have the people call me and set that up. If I go online, it will take me 20 minutes to get to the right place I need to be. Then, I'll put in the wrong information or push the wrong button, and it'll erase everything.
I moved in on October and 30 days after that, my hot water heater went out on a Wednesday, and Thanksgiving was Thursday. Everybody was off on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I called First American and told them about it, and that water was dripping out of it going down the drain, that it was not lit anymore, and it was leaking. They said that they would send somebody out, and they'd call me and set up a time that's good for me. They did that and they replaced the hot water heater including the little backflow thing that goes with it. It was $1,300 but they didn't bat an eye.
About a year later, my washing machine went out. I tried a different company because that company was cheaper. They said they'd send me $125 towards the purchase of a new one. I told them that the last company I had either fix or replace it and not give me $125 toward a new one. I got rid of them and I came back to First American. First American sent a repairman out here and he couldn't fix it. He said that the threads were shot on the drain thing and I gotta have a whole new basket and a rotary thing. It came up to be more money than buying a new machine so First American sent me an email saying to pick out a washing machine that I'd like. They gave me about nine choices and what they recommended wasn't the cheapest, but it was the biggest. It was good for a good-sized family so they delivered that, hauled away the old one, and set the new one up. How could I go wrong?
The last thing was a refrigerator that was leaking water out from underneath it and coming out in the front, and it was starting to warp my wooden floor. They sent a guy out from Sears and the guy said that sometimes those tubes get frozen, and when they do, the water backs up and ends up going up underneath the fridge. He aired it out with a heater thing, cleaned it all up and fixed it. It worked fine ever since.
I've had a lot of help from First American. I brag about them all the time 'cause they save me a ton of money. And with $66 a month, in 10 months, that's $660. That's not even half of what the hot water heater costs. I have gained more than I've spent with the hot water heater, the washing machine, and fixing the refrigerator. I got an outside freezer an outside central air conditioning, a central heat, forced-air heating that is down in the basement area, and all the other appliance in the house that are covered by them. If one of those goes out, then I've got to really make out 'cause those are expensive to replace. Just like the advertisement says, "It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when." I'm totally satisfied with First American.
Thank you Bob for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are happy to hear about your experiences with our company. We look forward to servicing you in the future!

Most recently, Total Air Care has been to our house on October 12, October 23, October 31 and November 8. Now we are at the point where I am almost 3 months pregnant and our heat doesn’t work, leaving me susceptible to otherwise Avoidable illness. We asked, "Could we use our own company?" And was told no. How long are we supposed to standby without a resolution?! Something needs to be done and that means a permanent fix and not a temporary Band-Aid. The guys came on time, took off our toilet put it back on and said, “Can’t help you, this is not covered. $75 please.” We said we were not paying because he didn’t do anything. We called another plumber out on our own and they snaked the plug out, no problem... Haven’t had any issues since.

We have had First American Home Warranty for four years and our most recent claim with them was for an issue with the dryer or washer. It stank and we couldn’t do laundry. My husband called in to submit the claim and it didn’t take long for the techs to come out. They had to order a part, so it took a few days, and they came back out. Overall, First American was fantastic.

This is the 2nd call back is about 4 weeks for my refrigerator which stopped cooling which means perishable food going bad. I was initially frustrated because the provider who repaired it the first time was unavailable and I certainly couldn’t wait more than a week for them to return. Therefore it was assigned to another provider which is fine but it just started the process over again at ground zero. This provider said There needed to be more parts ordered to repair it and they would return to put them in when they get there. The parts have been ordered and I wait as food continue to spoil and I continue to get bagged ice and a cooler for my food. It has now been almost two weeks and no word... FRUSTRATED!

Consumers! Please visit Yelp to see REAL consumer reviews about FAHW. ConsumerAffairs should not allow this company to create fake post about "how wonderful" their company is towards consumers... They are not! Homeowners who have paid for this insurance should be refunded for all expenses paid to FAHW. 1000s of Yelpers have given this company a 1 Star review. I hope ConsumerAffairs removes the fake post from their website about FAHW. This company is the worst! They don't cover anything! They charge the consumer $75.00 in service fees and profit off from a bad situation!
This past year I've had claims for my garage door, furnace, AC unit, garbage disposal and nothing was properly covered by FAHW. I was stuck paying double! A 75.00 service fee plus whatever cost for the REPAIR and everything else that FAHW said they didn't cover... Plus, I PAID FOR THE PREMIUM WARRANTY which was supposed to COVER MORE! This company isn't American. I bought my home less than a year ago and FAHW promised to make the buyer feel more at ease. Feels more like another scam.

Submitting claims to First American is fairly easy, either over the phone or on the web. The feedback to get a claim open and going is usually pretty quick. The part that was a challenge was the initial signup. I wasn't sure how they link you directly to your house on the initial signup, and so I had to call in. First American's customer service has been great. There may be some cases of a language barrier, but overall, the reps are still able to understand. I deal with international business already, so that’s not something new. But for a straight-off-the-block person, that may be a little difficult. Some of the deals on trying to do an online initial startup don’t quite work. But overall, once you submit a claim, usually it gets assigned to a contractor, if not on the same day, within 24 hours. Then that contractor will give you a callback to schedule an appointment within 24 hours.
The technicians that had been sent out were fine. On one particular claim, First American actually sent three or four different technicians. Overall, most of the technicians that they send are very friendly and prompt. They show up on time, and if they don’t, their contracting company gives me a callback that says they’re gonna be late or we need to reschedule. But that only happened once out of the four times I’ve used them so far, and I'm guessing that the rescheduling was due to the contractors' back-to-back appointments. Nevertheless, I’m pretty satisfied about the quality of their work.
The one issue I currently have in contention are some of their policies around the appliance working versus it working the way it used to before you opened the claim. The appliance could be working according to their own definition of working, not working to where it's like you just bought it. There’s a fine line between working, working brand-new and working repaired. So read the fine print and make sure, if you need to, to sign up for proper additional coverages. For those who don’t have many problems, or bought a new home, or are familiar with some home warranty, you might look at the option of creating a just-in-case plan rather than buying a home warranty.
For those not familiar with home repairs and things of that nature, however, a warranty is definitely a good investment. But still watch out for any home warranties. Read the fine print of what’s actually covered, how they will repair things and how they will replace or repair whatever is broken. Home warranties in general know that the homeowner or owner of the warranty may have to pay additional fees for code changes. So, you may have a house that was built in 1990 and the code said, “You do ABC.” But now, it’s 2018 and they’ve changed the code. When the techs repair something, they have to fix it to what the 2018 standards say. Yet, your home warranty coverage does not cover any updates because of code changes and it also doesn’t cover disposal of your failed equipment.
Thank you for the feedback, Wilbert.

Our Realtor suggested First American as a warranty company when we bought our new house. They were the most highly rated from people that we know in the area and from our Realtor. It was very, very easy submitting a claim and they really did a great job. When we called First American, we had two electrical issues that were supposed to be fixed. The first electrician that they sent out to us was amazing but they did not do their part. The first time, they came out and assessed both problems. The second time, they said they were only going to fix one and if we wanted the second one fixed, we would have to pay another $75 service fee in order for them to come out and fix it.
We called the home warranty and they took our concern very seriously. They called another electrician who came the same day and we were not required to pay a second service fee. The second company was phenomenal. They came out immediately, assessed it, and fixed it. We are really, really happy with First American. We currently only have a one-year home warranty, but we are definitely going to get another warranty policy with them for the following years. We previously had USAA and I am much happier with First American Home Warranty.

I'm completely disgusted that the first time I need to use this warranty the problem is not covered. I will not be renewing my warranty when it comes up. In my conversations with the salesman (who is no longer with the company) I was told basically everything was covered. I was just told washer and dryer are covered along with the roof, water heater, A/C etc. Now I find that the dryer isn't drying because the vent is clogged at the roof vent. I now find that clogged vents are not covered. I can't believe I fell for a scam. Live and learn.

We had First American for the first year paid for through the seller of our house when we bought it and we just renewed it. To submit a claim I go online and select whatever the appliance is that I’m having a problem with and the brand. They contact me usually the next business day to make an appointment to have somebody come look at it. Last time I had my dishwasher fixed. I had an online appointment. With another claim somebody had called me to set up an appointment. I’ve never had any problems with anybody. The contractors have also done a good job. I’ve had three people come so far. Twice it was the same guy, and then the last time, it was a different guy. They’re very professional. They came in and took care of my stuff.
We had a washing machine that couldn’t be repaired, so we purchased a new one. The dishwasher and the fridge got repaired, and they worked fine. But with the dishwasher the contractor had to order a part and was required to order a refurbished part first if it was available. When the refurbished part was here, he came back in the next week to put in the part. We got here and the part was missing pieces so he had to leave my house and go purchase a new one, which he could have done the week before had they allowed him to do that. I wouldn’t have had to take two days off work to be here to have it fixed. I understand they have to save money. But it was not very convenient. Nevertheless, having the warranty is worth it. I would tell somebody to do it if they could afford it, at least for a few years, especially in a new house.

Let me first say, I had First American with my previous house for 15 years. No complaints. I bought this house two years after selling my previous home. So insisted on First American as my home warranty company in the closing contract. A home inspection and pest inspection were done mid August. Moved into my home mid Sept. The master shower on/ off shower valve broke, while in use.
The faucets in both bathrooms were a bit loose. And one of the toilets needed a new wax ring. The toilet was found in the inspection and was repaired by the original company. However the faucets and the shower were found to be in good working order during the inspections. When I submitted my claim, a guy was sent out from a MSE plumbing, never gave me a card, so I don’t know that he was an actual plumber vs a handyman. He didn’t so much as turn on the water. He wrote up the issues and promptly wrote on the work order “pre-existing”. He didn’t charge me. And told me, “I doubt First American will cover any of this”.
He was right. I received emails, letters and a call telling me it was pre-existing. My house was built in 1972, everything is pre-existing. When I asked them to reconsider, I was told I would have to submit my home inspection as proof. It seems to me that by submitting my home inspection it would give them more reasons to use the excuse pre-existing on future claims. To top of this entire fiasco, I received a bill from First American for $75. When I inquired, I was told I had to pay even if no work was done. I told them Jamal the “plumber” told me no charge, unless they return to do work. First American said even if the company doesn’t charge, the money comes to First American, because we sent out the worker. Silly me, I was thinking that was what the annual payment was covered.
Lucky for me North American home inspection company stepped up and helped me with the repairs. And they certainly didn’t have to. I would definitely hire North American again. And this point I will not renew my contract with First American. However, the contract is paid for the next year, maybe they will redeem themselves.

We filed our first claim with First American Home Warranty this past summer. We were having problems with our central air. They sent a technician out and he tried to fix the problem, but didn't succeed the first time. I don't blame him. It was a case of our AC working till it hit a certain temp, and then stopping so it was hard to see if it was truly fixed or not. The second time they sent a technician he found the problem and fixed it in an hour or so.
The second claim we had came a little over a month ago when our microwave stopped working. They sent a technician and he came out and determined it need some parts that were probably not available. I received an offer to replace it within about a week. We couldn't accept the replacement because it was the wrong size, but we asked if they would give us the cash instead of a replacement and we could add some of our own money to find something that would fit the spot it went in. They agreed and we ordered a new microwave. It fits in the spot we had, and we sent in the receipt for it so they could reinstate the warranty on the microwave. I thought it went pretty well. Their customer service reps are nice, and professional, and I would renew the policy, and recommend it to a friend purchasing a house.

I opted for First American given that their account representative is always taking care of me. Whenever we submit a claim, it's quick and easy, though usually, the vendors take a little longer to come out. We had a problem with the refrigerator as the water wouldn't come out of it. It took five different vendors to come out and actually fix it as nobody could pinpoint the issue. But it wasn't First American's fault, and I know they are a good company. We had two issues so far that would have cost quite a bit more than what we spent so it's worth the invested money. I also get about 30 policies from them per year being a realtor so I tell others to buy it.

My husband passed away and I didn't know how to fix anything. I went with my sister's recommendation and got First American Home Warranty. Submitting claims to them has been a fine experience. The first time I did it for the hot water thank, it ended up being still under warranty so I couldn't book that claim. The second time, I called about my stove oven microwave. Their rep switched the claim around but they finally got somebody out to fix it in the end.
However, I had another claim for a plumbing issue. There was something clogged enough to fall where the water wouldn't come through. It seemed that their techs didn't have all the parts needed. He just cleaned out what I had and put the pan underneath the sink back up in there. Still, the plumbing man was very nice and did his work well. He came back and put the parts in without any problem. But then, I recently noticed when I got ready to cook that I don't have a lightbulb in my stove. Whatever he put in shorted and it went hot. He didn't see that the light bulb was out.
It appears that First American's techs don't double check stuff. I paid $75 to get my plumbing fixed and all their guy did was clean out the little pan underneath the sink. It worked fine after that but he didn't have a new filter put in. Still, for my $75, I'd get a new filter. Other people should be careful with how they request service because they're only going to fix what you have asked them to fix. Despite these issues, I'd recommend this company.

I've spoken with several reps from First American Home Buyers Protection and have had good experiences with their customer service. The contractors whom they send have been good as well. One time however, I had an issue when I had to have my heater and air conditioning unit replaced. First American Home Buyers had to come back less than a year later and replace it again. They also sent a different company out the second time. Still, the second company got it right.
In the house that I was living in, I had a special type of heater which was all electric, it was really difficult to find a contractor in my area that would work on it as I lived in the mountains. First American Home Buyers had to get one from pretty far away. Also, when they put the replacement unit in, they didn’t put in the right type of thermostat for it, so that burned out the compressor which they had to replace again.
When you live deep in the mountains, it's harder to find contractors. It's like that with every home warranty company. Still, I think it's harder to find contractors that are under contract with First American. Even so, I would always recommend this company. Once they get your claim to a contractor, everything goes fine. I no longer live in the mountains as I have bought a new house. Since then, I've had a couple of contractors come out and they've been excellent.

I reported an issue with my refrigerator not working and losing $200 worth of groceries when the freezer stopped working on Oct 9th. It’s now been 4 weeks without a working refrigerator and they are yet to replace it!!! They say not before Nov 19th because Sears doesn’t have it in stock. I can’t even buy the same model from any other and have it replaced because First American insists on dealing with a Sears who is going bankrupt!!! We had a problem with our washing machine leaking so we went online and set up an appointment for repair through First American. The repair was done through Sears and we were really happy with them. The tech fixed the problem that we had. Our washer was brand new and it was making a noise when the hot water would come in, and he said it had something to do with the pressure in the valve. It turned out that that valve had to be replaced this time, and since it was replaced the sound has gone.
We've never had a problem with anybody that we've had from First American. Whenever we've had a repairman out for whatever reason, they’ve been good. We've been real happy with our insurance. I wish the price would quit going up. If you total the amount of claims compared to the amount that we pay every year, we're probably in the hole paying for the insurance. But when we need it, we don’t have to worry about anything other than paying the deductible and that’s convenient. It's worth it. We would definitely recommend them. Our neighbor has it and she's always coming over and telling us something’s wrong on her house and how long it's taking for First American to take care of it. I'm really shocked at that, but I'm beginning to think we must have different insurance plans because we've never had that experience.

I finally got an email after submitting a written request to send in my photos and have a second plumber come out to evaluate. As a “gesture of good will,” they authorized another plumber who did a more thorough inspection of the toilet, and determined the wax ring could be replaced as there was no issue with tile. I’m still awaiting a response about the stripped hose bib, but at least the issue inside the house was taken care of. I’m hoping I’ll never have to deal with the one agent ever again. The agent actually assigned to my case online was responsive.

I ordered service for 3 plumbing issues shortly after moving in and discovering issues in my house. Since one was a drain hose on the dishwasher, they wouldn’t let the plumber deal with it and required an appliance specialist. That was a little frustrating, but at least it got handled for $75 (to wash out a hose under the sink).
The toilet leak and damaged hose bib were a whole other story. The plumber’s secretary called on a Monday and left a message I couldn’t understand (apparently she calls from a cell phone in the truck, so reception isn’t always the greatest). I worked Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday day and night, so I couldn’t call to schedule until Thursday between jobs. At that time, the secretary told me the work order had been cancelled because they had called 3 times without an answer. That was true, but really? Monday to Thursday and it gets cancelled? I didn’t even know who called until Tuesday when she left the second message. I did not feel comfortable with the plumber, based on reviews and the level of professionalism (or lack thereof), and requested the order be reinstated and referred to a different plumber.
FAHW reinstated the order, but only to the same plumber. He was over 40 minutes late (after calling and telling me they were on their way and would be there at ** time). He spent less than 5 minutes, and sent in an inaccurate or incomplete report. My hose bib has no threads and is completely stripped, so nothing can screw on it. He placed a report saying I was missing a part-which was a part that has to screw on). FAHW denied the claim because they don’t cover missing parts. I explained that I could replace the part, but the hose bib that I called in to fix in the first place was stripped, so the missing part could not be replaced. Because I couldn’t account for how it got stripped, and I said it was probably like that when I moved in-at least when I attached a hose it was spraying all over-so they denied the claim as a pre-existing condition. Seriously? The previous owners had a hose on there until they moved!
The toilet report blames the floor tile for being leaky. Last I checked, the wax ring that the toilet sits on doesn’t have much to do with the floor. Now, my house is under 20 years old, and the floors are all the same. There is nothing unusual about that bathroom floor, and all I wanted was the wax ring replaced. FAHW denied that claim because they don’t cover construction, and would only fix the ring after I replaced the flooring. I’m on a cement slab, on a flat lot, and there’s less than a .25” difference from the highest edge of one tile, to the lowest edge of another-and those two points aren’t even adjacent. I asked for another plumber to come out and evaluate, but again-denied.
The best part is, the rep on the phone kept talking over me, ignoring things I said, and then flat out refused to transfer me to a supervisor. First, she would not do anything until I told her exactly why I wanted a supervisor. Then she continued to talk about the claims. I cut her off and told her I would discuss the claim with a supervisor and to please transfer me to one. She told me I was rude and put me on hold. After a lengthy hold, THE SAME woman came back on the line and said she had discussed the case with a supervisor and... unfortunately my phone cut out and I couldn’t call back the same day. Even my realtor is amazed at their lack of coverage and lack of customer service. In the very least, my realtor will be recommending other insurers and letting her partners and other realtors know how great this company is. Oh-and yes, I paid the plumber $75 to come out late, for less than 5 minutes, and file bad reports. Total waste.

The real estate person that I hired to do all of the due diligence gave me a referral for a number of things that I needed, along with purchasing a home warranty from another company called Old Republic. However, I encountered such an unbelievable incident when I made the first claim. I switched to First American because of their rep. His name was Michael and he was excellent in telephone work and he's also a fabulous person. I ended up going from an annual fee of $390 to $600, but he handled it so beautifully.
I have submitted a claim for a one-year-old microwave. It vents off and I couldn't turn it on. I then waited for a few minutes then I put my hand on it and it was hot. While I was on the phone with the rep, the microwave went off. So I asked for her guidance because I didn't know if we should just make a note to the file or follow through with having a tech come out. She recommended for a tech to come out.
Although it took a long time from the initial call to the tech coming out, the rep that handled the call was outstanding and the tech was absolutely superior. His name was Johnny and what he did was something I felt was absolutely appropriate. He kept me fully informed. He even told me that he was going to recommend that they replace a relay switch. While he told me that it may take up to five business days, he was actually back in less time than that. Given my experience, I will renew my First American policy when it comes due, and I will do so purely based on the quality of care I received throughout this year.

I have in past years had two or three home warranties but I am more satisfied with First American Home Warranty than any from the past. They have kept me updated on repairs to be made and were quick with getting companies scheduled to be at my home. I definitely will use them again if I have the need, very satisfied!
Hello Geri. Thank you for providing a feedback. We appreciate it and look forward to servicing you in the future!

On Oct. 8th the service company came, determined that my oven control board was not working, after being told that a rebuilt one would not work, First American assured me that if the board did not work or fit, they would revisit the claim, so I agreed to the control board. Then I received an email with the incorrect address (not even close to mine) saying someone would be picking up the board, I emailed back my address, as of today 10-31 no one has, going into the holidays it would be nice to have a working oven.

Everything I have had done so far has been satisfactory. I ran into a lot of problems moving into my new house and they have been fixed. I had no trouble contacting the warranty company and they were courteous and helpful.

We bought a house in a rural area. Bought this coverage when we bought the house. First the HVAC system had problems. It took First American two days to tell us that they don't have a contractor for our area, but we could find a contractor ourselves, pay them and First American will reimburse us. Found contractor, paid him and now First American is refusing to reimburse us stating that the contractor didn't call for approval. Second problem. Had a major electrical problem. One of the main power leads from the meter to the house was shorting out. Called First American again, and again was told two days later don't have a contractor. We said no to the, "You pay. We will reimburse you." This went on for ten days... Elevated this problem to the state's Attorney General's office...WOW.
First American found a contractor. Two days later no contractor. After several hours of calling to find out where is the contractor is, First American refuse to pay the service fee. The contractor had to drive one and a half hours one way. Again called the state Attorney General's office, told them what is going on. WOW, 20 min. later First American calls telling us the contractor is on his way. This only a small list dealing with this company. Every time we call it's a minimum of four hours on the phone explaining things... Very bad company.

It took a month to get my heat pump fixed. In Yuma when it is HOT (115 degrees) it would be nice if a little urgency would be put into the situation. We went ahead paid a company to put coolant in the unit so it would cool so we could remain in our house. If we had not have done that then we would have had to stay in another place for a month and it would have cost us more money overall. It seems items break down on weekends when service is limited. If it breaks down on a Sunday, someone can't be called until Monday, then 48 hours, means Wed. before a tech is at your house. Then another month to get final repairs done. Not good when it is 99 to 115 degrees outside.
Hi Judy. Thank you for your feedback. We are glad your heat pump was repaired and look forward to servicing your next claim!
