Ease of use and easy access and uploading capabilities, it did not take a lot of time and effort to get my claim information completed. This was the easiest accessible application I have ever used for an insurance claim.

Sam ** arrived 1/31 and was very thorough. Very prompt in getting out to my house and took lots of pictures. Very courteous and understanding. Called promptly and returned calls and answered all of my questions.

Getting renters insurance from Assurant was easy and quick. Their UI is easy to navigate and give enough details to select the insurance type. I have been using this service from past 5 years without any issues, getting best quote from others.

I love Assurant and Geico. Before my dear brother passed away in May of 2020 we had used Geico since 2010 for auto and for our homeowners insurances as well as Bobby's motorcycle which is now mine and still covered by Geico so naturally when we lost the house to greedy mtge vultures and were forced to move so very far away from everything we knew and moved to a rental house (It was 10 yrs ago 26 Jan that we moved in here) we chose Geico/Assurant for our renters insurance and each year I do nothing and my motorcycle and renters insurances are auto renewed w/o me having to lift a finger and my payments are also auto paid from my bank acct each month. And nobody is less expensive for so much coverage as Geico and Assurant. BTW does Geico own Assurant?

The representative was very friendly and professional. He was respectful of my time and did a good job explaining the policy and the related discounts. I didn’t spend a lot of time on the phone and was able the finalize the policy with the rep without a call-back.

I was and still am pleased with my Renter's Insurance with Assurant through Geico. They are efficient and courteous. Payments are affordable and renewal is a breeze; whenever I need/have to communicate with Assurant (whether email or by phone) it has always been a pleasant experience.

I was broken into with a significant amount of personal belongings stolen over a month ago. Assurant has been less than helpful. They told me there is a discrepancy between my claim and the police report. When I asked them what it was they couldn't tell me and said they could not provide me a copy of my initial claim. (It's also NOT available online in their portal). I'm literally stuck and they get away from paying. Next up, complaint to the attorney general. Look elsewhere for renters insurance! Take photos of everything and keep receipts.

My closet in my apartment complex collapsed on me causing me major injury and the loss of my job!! And now I fear I’ll lose my apartment, my car and everything else. Worst of all the leasing agent told me that the closets break often like it was supposed to make me feel better. And to call my renters insurance. That’s it. Not a care in the world. Sad world we live in so I hope my renters insurance can help me through this nightmare.

I was able to get renters insurance in a matter of minutes, I was actually able to do it while I was at work on my 15 minute break (and I had time left over). They even sent over the paperwork to my leasing agent so that I didn't have to. Super easy!!

Simplified renewal, rate actually went down a bit. I've never had anything put positive experiences with this provider. Other companies quoted a higher price for less coverage. I even have 100K personal liability included.

We needed renter's insurance when we renewed our apartment lease. At first, trying to decide on a carrier seemed daunting, but a closer look at Assurant made all the difference. They offered a reasonable price for reasonable coverage - with hands free renewal - which made their product a no brainer for us.

Good price. Easy transactions. Good communication when policy is expiring and needs to be renewed. Overall, an inexpensive insurance policy through a strong company. You can’t go wrong with Assurant as they are a subsidiary of GEICO who has amazing customer service.

The person I spoke with on the phone was very helpful. I wasn't sure if my situation would be covered or not (and I am very stressed about navigating this situation, the increasing costs associated with it, etc.). She was kind, compassionate, and helped guide me on what I needed to do and what the next steps will be. Filed a loss of use claim well over a month ago. I have yet to hear anything. I cannot reach anyone. I am being ignored it seems. Was driven from my apartment due to a fire. Was in a hotel well over two weeks. I have heard nothing about my policy and it has been 6 weeks.

The renewal process was easy, I really didn't have to do anything so that was a great plus. I wanted to only pay for a few months, but that wasn't a viable option, but they did tell me they'd refund me anything I didn't use. So far, I have had no complaints about this company and fortunately haven't needed them yet.

Easy, affordable, friendly, Policy is always up-to-date and accurate, auto pay works flawlessly and like clockwork, anytime I’ve had to call with a question I was greeted with a friendly and very knowledgeable representative (mind you that’s only been one time). My dumb question was answered and resolved in a blink of an eye. Honestly I kind of wish my transactions with every company work as flawlessly as Assurant. It’s good to know my property is covered and I don’t even have to worry about it. Thank you all.

Assurant always has a customer service agent available and willing to help. The agents are, as well, easy to reach and you don't have to wait forever on hold for them - which is a plus in my book. Fair pricing on insurance as well.

During the Online claim it was very easy to use. It just was not clear at one part when you have to choose if your belonging is new or average. Did it mean you bought it new or the way it is when you claim the insurance but other than that it was good.

The insurance is very reasonable. The interface to choose the coverage required was easy to use. The monthly option to pay the amount owed for coverage is awesome. I hope I never have to use the insurance but I feel good knowing it is there.

Filed a claim in Oct 2020, submitted multiple police reports, evidence, proof, inventory lists, and packet of paperwork requested by ins agents, felt like I was doing their job and responsibilities, I contacted Assurant in Aug 2021 in regards to my insurance claim, they stated my claim was denied in June 2021, without any notification whatsoever, I trusted them and patiently waited for almost 1 year and complied to their requests and proved my words for claims with hard evidence police reports.
Do not trust this company with your kids' belongings and your family's personal property, my kids and I suffered through a burglary and theft and Assurant made our lives even worse by denying claim which I paid for renter ins through Assurant and now will regret in doing so but I forgive them for they know not what they do, during a time when we needed help the most Assurant let my kids and me down and we have been forced to start over again when all our vehicles and personal property and personal belongings were stolen in a theft and burglary, we are suffering having to repurchase everything we had already owned and paid off.

It was so easy to apply for and obtain renter's insurance. I love the bundle with my car insurance. As a new car owner and a first-time renter, I was really nervous about the prospect of needing renter's insurance, but Geico made it so simple to be immediately covered. As a new car owner (as of 2019) I was nervous about how to go about getting car insurance and the cost. Geico solved all my problems and left me with a huge discount and a reasonable cost of coverage. I'm grateful to the individual who helped set up my policy because they helped everything be crystal clear! So simple and great coverage!

Communication is very easy with Assurant. Payments are even easier, no problems. I had one claim a few years back and it was quickly and professionally dealt with. I only wish they had home owner's insurance for the house that I am buying.

I wanted to pay my rental insurance fee but I did not see a way to pay it online around 45 days before the expiration day. So I called and someone helped me to pay my rental insurance fee. That was a great help because I could not renew my lease unless I had paid my rental insurance fee. Thank you very much indeed!

The site was easy to navigate and intuitive to use. The file uploads were easy as well. I found the response time really quick. An agent called me right to tell me what my insurance would cover. Another agent called to tell me when an external adjuster would schedule an appointment.

I have been renting since I sold my home in 2002. No matter whether I have insured a room or a whole apartment, the process is effortless. Renewal is automatic with having my cc on file. Everyone should have renter's insurance to protect their belongings.

The survey. I opened my account since I had it on auto pay And found that everything was OK. I have never had to use the insurance but I have had an excellent year-by-year continuation of this policy. And by using auto pay I don’t have to worry about it not being paid on an ongoing basis.

I purchased the insurance online. The company who runs the management where I live recommended Assurant to me. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out I could use Assurant to obtain renters insurance for my upcoming rental property. The process was simple, everything was explained and described in detail what was needed from me. It also shows you the rates you will pay if you choose to pay monthly, yearly, etc. which I always find helpful when deciding between which plans to choose. I would recommend everyone to use Assurant if it is available to them.

It was easy to speak with a representative and get my questions answered. The gentleman didn’t rush me into accepting anything and explained the reasons for different coverages and why certain things were not covered. I was very disappointed to learn that it didn’t cover basement loss of property as that is where my husband has most of his tools and other items that are quite expensive along with other household items. We have felt more secure since we purchased our policy especially with the current unstable and unprecedented weather we have been having.

After 6 years as a renters insurance client, I had a fire in my apartment and saw Assurant's true terrible colors. A fire in my kitchen destroyed/damaged most of my kitchen and nearby stuff. The stuff that wasn't totally burned up still was affected by the fire, extreme heat, and/or significant smoke. This included various electronics, medications, and food. The whole thing was traumatic but this is why I have renters insurance, right?
I took 100+ pictures and painstakingly submitted them on the Assurant claim website, which only allowed me to submit 6 images at a time. Four times I had to start over due to website errors. It also requested I enter items manually into the website despite me already spending significant time on a detailed spreadsheet. I eventually had to submit that by email along with the report from the fire station. But I powered through it all and filed the claim.
I got a settlement response offering a payment amount of approximately 20% of what I claimed. Despite my coverage, the settlement offer did not offer cash value or replacement cost for any single item. Instead, for the items they did "cover," they offered a "cleaning allowance." Every electronic, every medication, regardless of the fact that it was partial ashes, exposed to significant heat, or haunted by smoke, only got coverage for a cleaning. They gave me a $20 cleaning allowance for an iPhone 11 Pro burned/melted/ruined in the fire.
Their offer made clear that no one bothered to look at any of the pictures I sent. As an egregious example, they denied giving me anything (not even a cleaning!) for a pack of chia seeds with plastic melting into it as shown in a picture. The whole settlement was absurd. Over the last month, I have emailed, left voicemails, and online chatted with Assurant asking to speak with someone and outlining my issues. No one has responded. I am looking into all my legal options. Please avoid Assurant for renters insurance. Please! After this experience, I'm honestly questioning whether to stay with GEICO for car insurance given that they've linked me with Assurant. Please get renters insurance from another company.

I've never had to claim anything on insurance. With this being my first time I would like to say it was easy, stress-free and thank goodness quick. Living on the Gulf of Mexico is difficult with all the hurricanes we have, filing insurance shouldn't be. With Assurant it most definitely is.

I really liked the prices for what I got. The one thing I did not like was trying to get my address put in correctly. I realized I put the wrong number for my apartment first. Went to correct it and it was so difficult. Then had to call to get it fixed.

I know nothing will change with this review but even if one person could stay away from them that would make me feel good. I have been their clients for years, someone broke in to my place and stole my watch that means a lot to me. I just like another person called the claim center. Uploaded my paper work, etc. According to them my adjuster will call me in 48-72 hours. No one called, I left voicemails to my adjuster. She didn’t mind even calling back.
After 3 weeks, they emailed me that they can only pay me 1/10 of my cost because it’s a jewelry. The watch was my personal property and according to the their coverage policy they are covering my costs up to $15k with $250 deductible. On the paperwork there is not a word says excluding jewelry, etc. This is how misleading this company is. I am still trying to connect with my adjuster, she never responded. This is how this so called insurance company is taking care their clients. Stay away. This is my claim number **. STAY AWAY!

I've been trying to work with my adjuster since last November to get compensation for water damage repairs in my bathroom and have received incorrect information about how I should proceed, faced months of unreturned phone calls and a reluctance to cooperate with me to try and get a resolution. The adjuster has refused to speak with the other insurance company involved and has had me acting as liaison pushing information between the two using technical terms that I don't fully know and which my adjuster hasn't been forthright in explaining when asked. I have been frustrated and left uncompensated for what should be a straightforward and common claim (leak from the ceiling in my bathroom). I requested to speak with supervisors or even to have my case moved to another adjuster and as a result my calls have been unreturned.

I have been trying to get paid out on an insurance claim submitted over 6 months ago for a building bike theft. I had to submit my receipts on 3 separate occasions because they claim they never got them. They deliberately cut me off from their system so there was no tracking of my records and submission. They do respond to emails, and they do not return calls, they do not follow up, they do not communicate what is happening. I believe it is all by design so people just get tired and give up. They do not do what they are supposed to do. They take advantage of their power.
They only partially paid after I involved the Better Business Bureau but short paid me "recoverable depreciation" of $1,711.40 without any explanation of what this is of how to recover it. They also sent the check to an address I made it clear I no longer lived at. Likely hopeful I would never receive it. This company will do everything they can to NOT do what is required of them in your time of need. I am a long-time executive and I have never seen worse customer service in all my years experience. No exaggeration. I was victimized by criminals and then again through their process of torturing you to get what is rightly yours. Do not buy through them.

After having their insurance the past year with no issues I decided to continue with them as I moved into a new place. My policy was on an auto-renewal plan so once I moved I just changed my address. They cancelled my plan, didn't say anything and I only noticed when I went to get a declaration page. I immediately called to renew they said it would take another day and couldn't speed up the process. So now I have been without homeowners insurance for a few days and have to wait another day because of their inability to provide customer service. If I wouldn't have just paid my renewal I would be going elsewhere.

I have had Assurant renters policy for many years now. It was very easy setting up my account, making payments, and moving my coverage when I moved to different apartments. However, my claim experience has been the complete opposite. This is my first claim ever which was due to water damage. I placed my claim on 6/24 which was when my apartment had a leak which completely flooded the place. All my belongings got wet. My apartment was deemed unlivable which is everyone's worst nightmare. Where do you live in such short notice? Where do you work if you work from home and need direct wifi connection to a router?
Assurant claims they should be reaching out within 2-3 days of placing a claim. My adjuster noted that he called me and there was no way to leave a message. That is what I was told by one of their representatives. I waited for that call all day since I could not work for few days. Answered every telemarketer hoping it would be the adjuster. My voicemail is definitely set up and working. It just happens I work for my cell phone provider as customer service and tech support representative. That call never happened. I spoke to the adjuster once because I called him the following week and advised him of my situation. I sent in all my documentation via their website and waited. I was told I could only upload 10 pictures and a list of my belongings. I was never told I should keep the receipts of food and laundry mat while I was displaced from my apartment. I only found out after the fact when I received a letter via mail.
I kept calling the adjuster leaving several messages which I never received a call back. Finally two weeks later I left a message for his supervisor and also did not get a call back. My children and I are still not back in my apartment since I placed the claim. Today is 7/21 and I have no idea if they are going to cover me or how much they are going to cover me? There claim website just shows the claim is pending of approving documents. My advice is get a better renters insurance. You don’t want to find yourself in a situation where you need them and they are not there to help. Unless it’s collecting your money that you get great service.

Assurant is convenient for my rental property management company's requirements for liability and loss coverage. The integration with the GEICO portfolio interface makes payments and checking updates easy. I find that the policy can be updated to reflect changes to management company, liability coverage limits, and valuation of property easy and quick.

Filed a claim as some things were stolen out of my car in November. Process initially moved very quickly and it was great. However I have begun buying items back and have been sending receipts to get my depreciated value for some things and trying to contact my claims examiner to get this process moving and no answer. I called every day for a week and no response, left a voicemail with my name, phone number, and claim number and still nothing. Voicemail says all calls after 3pm will be returned the next business day and they never are. Got a new claim examiner as my first is no longer with the company and it's the same thing, doesn't answer the phone ever or return calls. Very disappointed with the customer service I have received.

I filed a claim due to water damage while I was away. My neighbor alerted me and I contacted Assurant when I returned. By the time I returned everything was cleaned and removed. I’ve been playing phone tag and exchanging emails with Jean and his coworkers to NO avail! I’ve lost about $4000 worth of items and at this point I think it’s a wash! I’m already shopping for a different policy. I only went with Assurant because I bundled it with my Auto.

Worst insurance company ever. STAY AWAY because your place will have been destroyed by the time you can get a hold of someone. I have a condo insurance and I can never reach my adjuster, Jorge **, or his supervisor, Victoria **. They rarely respond to my emails, never answers/returns my phone calls, and tells me I'm impatient since my place has been sitting in water, rotting away "only for few weeks." It's been three months and I still haven't been able to return home. I'm floored how this place can still operate. STAY AWAY FROM GEICO AND ASSURANT.

Getting our quote was very simple, did not take long, seeing how much it would cost was fast, easy to add things or take things off and see how much it would affect the premium, the little x next to things if we needed it to be explained further was really wonderful! That way we didn't have to read through a bunch of things we already knew, but we could click on it if we needed further clarification. I have not received my papers in the mail, which I did request, and the only thing that was or is frustrating is making sure my auto and my renters insurance are both bundled together, I thought it would help save us on our auto insurance but I have yet to see any savings and am having difficulty finding how to join the 2. Other than that the process was simple and fast, and I also liked the payment options, at the time I did have the money to pay for the entire year, that is a great feeling. Thank you.

After leaving a review on this website and about 65 voicemails and 15 emails (no exaggeration) the claims adjuster from Assurant finally got back to me. This is good news as it means I won't have a total loss on the theft that occurred for my 2019 Santa Cruz Bronson. However, the claims adjuster had no idea what they were looking at when they were trying to evaluate the price of the bike and ended up undervaluing my bike substantially because they used an older body style with a completely different suspension layout off of Pro's Closet to determine the price. Never mind the carbon rims my bike had on it.

Updated on 06/29/2021: 2nd review?! I finally received a letter. I sent a paper copy of the police report although no one made it clear whether or not I needed to send the actual hard copy of report or the police number showing that the police was notified. I sent the hard copy in May 2021, learned through the customer service center that it was documented as received 6/9/2021. I attempt to call the claim adjuster 2 -4 times to check the status of the claim, left messages and still no response. I likewise called her supervisor, left detailed message without affect?!
I filed my claim 02/05/2021, provided the requested paperwork but was told by customer service that they are backed up with many claims, as though that’s my fault? That’s like me telling one of my patients that I provide care to that they must wait until I have time to give them their doctor prescribed medication that they need and that their insurance cover nor give them a good reason as to why they must wait? Assurant will not ever get my business, and likewise I’m willing to pay more for a different company to insure my cars and new home! Geico has done well but Assurant is a part of them and therefore not worth my time nor business likewise! Don’t ask for my insurance claim/ policy information as though you all are going to assist with my concerns?! Because I’ve called and likewise sent the requested documents several more times and still have not received a response! A denial? NOTHING!!!
Original Review: So I have an ongoing claim with Assurant for a Car break in with loss due to someone breaking into one of my vehicles. I’ve had Geico and Assurant for a while but as for renters, I’ve never had to file a claim! My claim adjuster never called me once. I left her several voicemails always leaving my name, claim number and phone number and have sent emails that have gone unanswered. I had questions on certain procedures that I'm still not sure of because I couldn’t get ahold of my adjuster to answer the questions. I have been completely ignored by my own insurance company and her manager has not responded to any phone calls either.
They had my apartment number wrong in their system, then gave me the run around saying I must contact Geico to fix it because Geico is who open the claim and due to address apartment number not being correct, my claim may be denied. I was transferred back and forth? I finally talked to someone that said their manager would view all and call me back, but I never heard back? I cancelled my renters policy! I would rather replace my phone at full cost than to use assurant for any further insurance needs! I only went with them because of Geico. They are an awful insurance company that has no concern about their customers. You pay them and they ignore you.

Unfortunately my claim representative was the worst ever I ever talk to. Name is S.J. took three days to get back to me. She mention they gave her the wrong claim number for my case. After receiving all the information I needed to file a mold claim S.J. say she doesn't know if Massachusetts has clogs in the contract for molds. Then she change her mind and say your cover. S.J. mentioned she sending an email to where to send all my documentation to myclaiminfo@assurant.com. Everything was sent on 3/31/21 5pm. Never heard back till 4/23/21. By email S.J. sent out another email starting they still need the information.
I call to talk to another represented she transfer my call to S.J.. Get on the phone. Very rude. I had enough of this sorry customers services. I'm done and I made a post about this company. I never in my life Experience poor service. Usually it takes a week to receive a check from your insurance company even from Covid-19. I am a property manager and selected Assurant for my coverage after comparing benefits and pricing with my other insurers. I found a dollar difference of $100 for the same plans through my motorcycle and car (different) insurance providers. I have assisted many of my renters with signing up and purchasing a plan with Assurant, too. They feel confident they have made the right choice knowing I have the same coverage as they do.

Am currently renting a 2 bedroom 11/2 bath townhome. Renewable every 12 months in a variety of ways. I choose to pay online without any problems. Maintenance is exceptional and timely. The office staff is friendly and helpful. Grounds are well cared for. Most residents are friendly and are dog owners who take care with their pets' activity. In general, a very pleasant place to live.

I switched all my insurance from Liberty to Geico. Only reason was price. I didn't even realized who was the renter insurance company until I had to file first claim on 3/31/2021. As a bundle Geico brought us Assurant. You get what you pay for. It was a nightmare. They either pick up your calls nor return. One guy gave me a number and it was a bonus number. I am listing the number here so that you can verify. 1-800-652-1263 ext **. I assigned me an adjuster and he neither return my call nor respond to my texts. I called Assurant and complained and they told me that they will assign me a different adjuster. The same adjuster texted me an hour later that I am stuck with him.
The Assurant Claims Examiner asked me all kinds of document including condo master policy certificate. I told the claim examiner that it was the fault of the unit above nothing to do condominium association. If I had to deal with everything I don't need to buy an insurance. I filed a similar claim with Liberty and their service was excellent. I have never went through all this hassle. I am planning to switch to Liberty. No more Geico, no more Assurant. Having this kind of insurance is more headache than helpful. By the way after 6 day still nothing get done.

WAS a Geico customer for many years. Tried out their renter's ins. It's actually Assurant. My claim was approved in December. I was sent a check for a small fraction of the damage and told that another check would be sent. Has not happened. They are impossible to get ahold of. Phone messages unreturned. Emails unanswered. Four months later I am still waiting. If you want to be completely ignored with no resolution, they're your go to.

I've been an Assurant rental insurance customer for ten years. I went TEN YEARS without ever needing to make a claim. Then our apartment got mold, and some of our belongings were damaged. We tried to file a claim online -- the form was broken on Assurant's end. (We tried several browsers.) Since we couldn't submit the information via webform, we emailed it to our claim adjuster. Then we tried calling, and left a voicemail for our claim adjuster. We didn't hear back, so we called again the next day. We called every day for a week and a half and never heard anything. We found our claim adjuster's supervisor and called. Nothing.
We call the main line, and sit through extremely long wait times, navigating phone menus, getting placed on hold and getting dumped back to the menu when they were allegedly transferring us to someone who could help. Again, no help. This whole process is made to be impossible. On purpose. Because if you can't actually complete your claim, Assurant keeps your money and never has to pay out.
Over a month and a half later, we finally get to speak to our claims adjuster. We explain our situation and no surprises here -- our claim was denied. Even though we have a provision in our policy that says mold damage is covered. The real test of insurance is: if you need to make a claim, do they help you? If you're with Assurant, the answer is clearly no.
How much money does Assurant make by denying your claims? Assurant's CEO Alan B. Colberg made $9,465,745 in 2019. Assurant's Chief Financial Officer Richard S. Dziadzio made $3,526,168 in 2019. Assurant's Chief Operating Officer Gene E. Mergelmeyer made $4,232,613 in 2019. Assurant's Executive Vice President Keith W. Demmings made $3,016,777 in 2019. Assurant's Executive Vice President Robyn Price Stonehill made $2,226,913 in 2019. These five executives alone made $22,468,216 in one year. Twenty two million dollars. Unless you want to spend your hard-earned money helping buy Alan Colberg another mansion, avoid Assurant. They won't help you when you need it, and they'll make you spend dozens of hours of your life you'll never get back for the privilege of denying your claim.

This is by far one of the worst companies I have EVER dealt with when it comes to customer service. I am beyond over their antics and the way they beat around the bush with customers. At this point, T-Mobile is about to lose a customer because of them. My phone was stolen yesterday, 03/01, so I filed a claim. I am being told that once I upload my ID to them it will take 3-5 DAYS for them to process my claim. NO ONE IN THIS DAY AND AGE has 3-5 DAYS to wait for them to look at a picture and verify that it's me! I asked for 2 managers and they all told me the same. Supposedly, they went through a lot of people claiming they didn't have their device when they did. DUH, people do scams everyday. But why put everyone else who is genuinely trying to get a phone put through this.
It is not safe to be without a phone nowadays. I have a program for work that I use to login or access. I need my phone NOW. The deductible is already high as heck!! I am so sick of dealing with this company and Tmobile needs to deal with someone else before they lose a bunch of customers! The last time I filed a stolen phone claim, they asked me to sign a document and my phone was shipped! Now granted, the phone ended up being returned to me and I cancelled the claim and sent the phone back!! They told me this claim didn't even count against me! Again, I am beyond done with their antics and the agony that they put customers through! Do better Assurant!

So I have an ongoing claim with Assurant for a Fire Damage loss to our apartment due to an apartment fire in another unit. Our claim adjuster has called us once. We have left her over 15 voicemails always leaving our name, claim number and phone number and have sent emails that have gone unanswered. We had questions on certain procedures that we now know they will not cover like dry cleaning because it has to be done a certain way but we couldn’t get ahold of our adjuster to answer these questions. We have been completely ignored by our own insurance company as her manager has not responded to any phone calls either, customer service can't get her to call us back and we even called a 4th number and can't get anyone to call us back. We only went with them because of Geico. They are an awful insurance company that has no concern about their customers. You pay them and they ignore you.

Assurant Renter's Insurance has handled my claim for theft at the hands of my moving company with marked delays and delayed, unprofessional service. I am writing as a very dissatisfied customer of your Renter's Insurance product, due to the delayed handling of my claim and issues with the website updating information that has already been provided.
Regrettably, having experienced a theft and loss at the hands of an inept moving company nearly two weeks ago on 1/15/21, I was hopeful in having my claim handled expediently to offset the losses incurred as a result of this theft. Although my Claims Adjuster, Karen **, is very friendly and thorough in her work, I am distressed at the fact that my claim seems to be delayed after sending every detailed document (receipts and police report) as required for my claim, and calls go unreturned when leaving voicemails for updates on my claim. Per the adjuster's request, I have provided very detailed copies of receipts for each item stolen multiple times (save for those that were gifts, as explained to my adjuster), as well as a detailed Police Report from my local precinct for the reported loss.
My issue stems from the fact that my Adjuster repeatedly requests new documents, after promising a claim completion date of today (Friday 1/29/21), and it is my position that the company continues to stall my claim for any arbitrary reasons they may find. Today, Ms. ** stated that another department (SIU) has requested more validating documents -- a copy of my lease and moving contract -- which I immediately provided via email to my adjuster, only to be told this will delay the claim further. The moving company was extremely inept with shady business practices, and I did not even have the chance to physically sign any paperwork, as can be noted on the contract, as they replaced the signature lines with *, and proceeded to steal many of my items.
While I understand that each claim is unique, and the timeframe for resolution varies, I feel that the handling of my claim has been stalled even in the face of me providing every document required to expedite the handling of my claim. In addition, the Assurant website continues to show documents missing while I have provided every required document multiple times to my adjuster both via the online portal and email. The conflicting information provided me from my adjuster, customer service and the Assurant website continues to cause me distressed confusion regarding my claim, and this needs to be resolved promptly.
During an already very challenging times, compounded by the daily stresses of the COVID pandemic, Assurant continues to cause me distress at the poor handling of my claim and false promises on the handling and completion of my claim. I have provided every document requested by Assurant, immediately when requested, and I feel that Assurant is engaging in stall tactics to pay my legitimate claim, which has been amply validated with multiple documents on several different occasions. This service remains very subpar, and I am in need of immediate senior management assistance to complete my theft claim at this time.

I bundled my Geico insurance and had Assurant for our renters. On Christmas Eve the upstairs unit above us started a fire causing our apartment to be totally damaged from the water from their sprinklers. It ruined Christmas, we didn’t have anywhere to go, it’s been complete chaos. We had a claim adjuster for a week and then he quit so we had a new claim adjuster and it’s been over a month now and no sign of our money and we have exhausted all of our finances and we call as often as we can. They obviously don’t care that people are suffering when these emergencies happen.

Unbeknownst to me, Geico uses Assurant insurance for homeowners and renters insurance and I am appalled. For the first time ever, I unfortunately had to file a claim due to extensive water damage to my home that was caused by a neighboring unit. My home was under 6.5 inches of water. Most everything was damaged beyond repair as the water came from above and crashed down on every inch of my home. I have made countless attempts to connect with my claims examiner, their manager, and even the manager's manager to no avail. I have almost exhausted all emergency funds on lodging, food, and gas as my home is unlivable while repairs are underway. This would be covered under my ALE coverage, however no one has contacted me or made any attempts to initiate payments to assist.
The investigator confirmed the damage as well when he came on-site almost a week after the event took place. A week AFTER! Since then, no one has contacted me via phone or email which is beyond unacceptable at this point. I have made all documentation available to my claims examiner including receipts and over 120 images that capture the extent of all damages. The one time that I was successful in contacting my claims examiner was two days after my home sustained water damage. She continued on about how they will not pay for this and that though I had supporting documentation that is listed in my insurance paperwork as a requirement for the claim to be filed and remediated in a timely manner.
When the investigator came to my home even he stated that the damage to my personal property alone was extensive and would exceed my already robust coverage. The fact that we as customers have to chase down these lackluster agents that are assigned to us with no say is baffling! I have already spent countless hours combing over all of my documents and ensuring no stone is unturned prior to making this information available to my examiner. I have done this with the hopes that this process would be seamless and promptly resolved. I couldn't have been more wrong. I’ve now had to engage my attorney and am moving forward in filing a formal complaint against Assurant via the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.
This company should be ashamed of themselves as should Geico for subjecting their customers to Assurant’s atrocious and nonexistent customer service. My claim is STILL open with no remediation in sight. I can be patient, however, when there is no communication and an overall sense of, “let’s make this already tumultuous experience that much harder for a timely paying customer”, restraint is out of the question. Assurant, DO BETTER!!!

Updated on 12/19/2020: I called Assurant to speak to a supervisor regarding the claim that was declined on 12/15/2020. The agent could get a supervisor on the line. The agent was instructed to take the details for my call. The agent I spoke to did not believe 2 claims filed in less that 3 years was a reason for my policy to be flagged as a policy that should not be covered by Assurant. He would not provide what is the maximum number of claims other applications were approved with a valid policy. I do not feel discriminated but for sure this is an experience other people should be aware of before they plan on buying a renters insurance policy from Assurant.
Original Review: ON A RECORDED LINE. I spoke to Ray Julian **. My gun and other property were taken from my vehicle parked on the driveway where I live. I was able to find the original Ruger box that came with the gun so I could read the serial number. I filed a police report. After I filed the police report, I filed a claim. After all the paperwork was submitted, Ray Julian ** called me on 12/15/2020. He has previously asked me if I had filed for insurance claims in the past 3 years. My answer was always the same - "YES". Today he called me to tell me the claim was declined. He wrote that I had misrepresented and made false statements by failing to report past claims on my insurance. Sooo. I went back to find the email I received from Assurant with 2 attachments. One attachment was the policy information. The other attachment was the application. The application clearly includes that I declared a claim on 2018.
Clearly this company needs to hire a better IT person, better software so the claim processor can see what is on the records or get a claim processor who can read insurance applications and stop wasting the customers time filing and reporting complaints and negative reviews. It is disappointing because the last time Assurance processed a claim, it was a good experience.

I moved out of my apartment several years ago, and I've been trying to cancel my insurance ever since. Every year the annual payment auto-renews, and this reminds me to try to cancel it again. Calls and emails to Assurant don't work. I'm not trying to get a refund, I just don't want to keep paying for insurance I'm not using. How come you can easily press a button to get the Assurant insurance, but you can't do the same to cancel? I will NEVER use them or recommend them to anyone.

I had a policy with them for the last 3 years. Two weeks ago my window was broken and house was vandalized. When I filed the claim, not only they denied me, they were rude, unprofessional and even revised my policy behind my back. There is nothing good about this company, it is a bunch of scammers.

I purchased renters insurance from Assurant because Geico offered it. Geico is a good company so I trusted getting renters insurance from Assurant. My condo was broken into and they stole some items. I called the police and made a report. On 11/2/2020 I went online and started a claim. They stated an agent would be in contact within two days (first lie). I had to called them and left a message on a voicemail. I got a call back on a Monday and the agent left a voicemail. I called back and left another message. Didn't hear anything for two weeks. Then on 11/16/2020 I get a call from the number that the agent called me from so I answered it and she just hung up on me. This company is clearly a fraud and I'm planning on really digging into the legitimacy of this company. I'm also leaving Geico since they referred this company as well.

I had a issue with water damage in 9/14/2020 and filed a claim through them. Got through Geico bundle and had an adjuster call me explaining what happened and I was told I will have two claims one for property and personal. I provided everything I can to them and I don’t keep receipts like that and investigation came and took pictures so they got pics and everything. Never heard about that. When call insurance adjuster unable to get him. Always voicemail and it’s funny I get someone by pressing any number and extension and then they can’t reach adjuster.
I haven’t heard from them then when the person I speak to email adjuster and manager then I still don’t get a physical call. They send an email saying they are putting acct inactive status because I didn’t give them anything. I have mold growing in my home. Reached out to landlord and still don’t know what to do. I called a lawyer and all too because this is unacceptable. They don’t care about people. I hate this company. After this claim is justified I am done with them. Going somewhere else that really would help in time of need. This is a mess and hassle then I have to fight with them. I am going to have to take to small claims court. They can care less for people knowing that things happen.

I filed a claim and they say they will reach out within 2 business days. I never received any correspondence so I called on the 4th business day to see what was going on and they said they tried calling 3 times... which I know is not correct because I answered every single phone I have received since filing the claim in case if it was the adjuster... only to find out that they have been calling my leasing office instead? I understand calling my landlords but maybe a phone call to me would also make sense?
So I get the phone number for the adjuster and call him, to find out that he is going to be out of the office all week so I call again and ask to be reassigned to another adjuster or his manager so I can get the ball rolling. I have yet to hear back from anyone and I tried calling customer service today to see what is going on and they just hang up on you after placing you on hold for 5 minutes. I don’t know how this company is still in business. I highly recommend canceling your policy and getting renters insurance elsewhere because that is exactly what we will be doing.

I purchased a renters policy from Geico. I wasn't aware that this policy would be through Assurant. I had a burglary on August 20th. I submitted my claim and the adjuster reached out to me one time. I called several times a day trying to get in contact with the adjuster and he would not return my calls. Finally the adjuster called and told me my claim would be settled by the end of the week. I didn't receive a call by the end of the week so I called Monday only to be informed that my claim had been given to another adjuster. The calling process started all over again. I was never contacted by the adjuster and he never returned my calls.
After about a week and I called and was notified that my claim had been assigned to another adjuster. I started the calling process all over again. She told last Thursday that my claim would be finished by that Friday. I did not receive a call or email so I called again today and was told that it should be wrapped up today. Tomorrow will make 2 months that I have been waiting on my claim to be resolved. This is the worst customer service that I have ever had to deal with. I have cried, begged, and done everything in my power to get my claim resolved but as of today I am still waiting. I wouldn't advise anyone to deal with this company. They are horrible.
