The Assurant Renters Insurance website was extremely easy to use and understand. I think it is the easiest site I have ever used to include many shopping applications. Determining the total value of my items was the question I took the longest time to think about. I was a little disappointed that it did not ask about categories that might result in discounts. Nor did it ask what breed of dog I have as mine is an ESA. That is the reason for the four stars and not five.

I had a fire start at a neighbor's home that spread to where I lived, it caused significant damage. (To the point it is uninhabitable for the next 6-8 months). I filed a claim and Brandon P, who was assigned to my claim was patient and very knowledgeable. I had never had to use my renters insurance before, but he explained the process and I had so many questions that he patiently answered. He always responds to my inquiries promptly, and even if I’m a little excited or nervous he is very professional and kind. Assurant also has an awesome chat system setup via text to share documents and information, the payout system is smooth, and overall I was very grateful to Brandon and Assurant for their support, guidance, and assistance.

Absolutely the easiest and most efficient website that I've EVER used. Everything a person needs is readily available. My experience took less than two (2) minutes from start to finish. I would recommend this business to anyone that is shopping for renter's insurance.

I hate having to file claims for loss but Assurant has been helpful and quick to act in the two times I've needed to file with them. The first claim was with a person and that was great. This time around, I chose the self-serve option which basically entails me needing to upload all of the documents myself. It was still pretty easy. Now just waiting to hear back to get an outcome on the claim.

I filed a claim and they responded really fast after I submitted everything. I just don't agree on how they come up with the money that is owed after filing a claim. It's way less than what the items are worth.

The customer service was very kind and down to earth, I am not the smartest when it comes to insurance. He was able to break it down well enough I could understand it. He was very patient and we was on the phone for about 45 minutes. He helped me set up the app and even walked me through the app a bit.

I filed a claim for theft from my vehicle. The claim was accepted promptly and w/o delay. I accepted a e-check for my claim. My bank refused to cash it and I found myself running and spinning around spending hours to get it cashed. I finally ended up paying $50 to get it cashed. That made my whole loss worse. I wouldn't recommend a e-check to anyone.

Nothing wows me anymore. No one shakes hands anymore and no one goes above and beyond. It seems as though no one cares about their jobs and are just there to get a paycheck. The reason I gave this a 4 stars is because of the ease of using the website, I would recommend the site.

Please keep in mind that all the good reviews for this company are from people that have never filed a claim. Every company is great if you've never filed a claim. I'm 37 years old and this is the company that led me to make an account just to warm people. I got tricked into this by bundling with Geico. I've had a claim open since July! They ask me to upload the police report. I do that and don't hear from them for over a month. When I finally got ahold of my adjuster, it was give me 10 days to finish this.
Five weeks of silence. Finally get ahold of her again. This she needs until Friday this time. That call was on Tuesday, October 25th, and it's the last time I have spoken to her. I have called dozens of times. Straight to voicemail every time. Soak to the next agent? Nope. They're magically always busy. Call the supervisors number... Voicemail every time. Leave multiple messages that have all gone unreturned. I have no idea what to do next.

Geico makes buying new policy simple via their online portal. No time wasted with unnecessary human interaction. It is easy to understand your policy term and adjust them if required. The price is transparent and comparable - sometime cheaper than that of other company.

The pricing is reasonable and provides the appropriate coverage without a lot of hassle. Notifications on renewals and monthly payments are given in a timely manner so that they are lapses. When I have questions and concerns the customer services personnel are very friendly, knowledgeable, and patient.

I lost a lot of my property in Sept. 2022 when hurricane Ian blew through Venice, Fl. No one has contacted me. All I received was a check for food loss $250.00. Why is my account closed before it was reviewed? I paid my payment on time and I did not get the help when I needed it. I lost a lot of my property and no agent never called me. Some kid came and took pictures of my damage and that's the last thing I heard from your company. I called and talked to someone I could barely understand and they said it was under review and I will be getting a call from my agent. Who never called. You should stand behind your company and at least pay me for my damaged property.

I lost the contents of my apt in Sept. when Ian blew through Charleston. I filed my claim on Oct. 2nd and the adjuster came to access the situation the week after once it was safe to enter the building. I have not heard anything from anyone at this company since. I have left numerous voicemails and sent many emails with no response. People with claims get sent straight to the adjuster's voicemail. I finally found a new place 2 months later and was going to transfer my policy but I can't even contact a person to speak with in regards to that. I would highly recommend looking for coverage elsewhere.

We were victims of a flood from an apartment above us. We were displaced for six weeks, and we have been trying to to speak with someone to find out the status of our claims and they keep taking messages when we call and say they will call us back and nobody does. This is terrible customer service. We need to be in reimbursed for the money we laid out to be able to move back into the apartment and live there, and we need the proceeds from our claim to be able to go out and purchase furniture and replace items that we lost from flood damage but we can’t afford to do so until we get money back from the insurance agency.
It was bad enough to live between friends and family and hotels for six weeks. You want to feel that you can trust that your insurance company is there for you when a disaster happens and they have not been responsive to our calls or efficient in processing are claims. We were the victims here and we pay insurance so that we don’t have to worry if a disaster happens. We are finally back in our apartment and we have to still deal with these issues through the holidays as if we haven’t dealt with enough troubles. Adding the individual items was difficult because I couldn't find the general names for the items. I kept having to type in the name of the item over and over again. Maybe it would have been easier on my phone or ipad.

The process of filing a claim was simple and easy. I was able to enter the required information and navigate to each section with ease. It didn't require me to look up any additional information that wasn't readily available to me. I like that I was able to do the claim right from my mobile phone instead of having to sign into my laptop.

I filed my claim on Oct 7th, which was related to the tropical storm on Sept 30 (small claim of 6 items!). I was told by my FIRST claims adjuster (who took a week to contact me) that once I submit the needed docs, the turnaround time was around 4-5 days. Well, I submitted all required docs on Oct 17th. I waited and waited and kept trying to reach my adjuster, and couldn’t leave a voicemail bc her voicemail no longer worked, and the main claims line went straight to voicemail and the mailbox was full. I sent countless emails - nothing. I finally figured out how to talk to a real person who told me my previous adjuster no longer worked there and I had a new one.
Well, having no adjuster and a new one is the same experience, as it’s been 2 weeks since I found this out and no matter what I do, I can’t talk to the adjuster or her manager (Andretta & Tony). I was then contacted by Pilot Catastrophe who told me they were contracted by Assurant to do the inspection, which they’ve done. They also notified me that the estimate has already been received and reviewed by Assurant and they’re not sure why they haven’t contacted me regarding my payment. It’s been more than 30 days. Tomorrow is Veterans Day, and I have been on the phone all day again trying to get this resolved. I am still no closer to answers than I was when I first filed my claim. I have no choice but to file for assistance from my state’s DOI. I would NEVER recommend this company.

I became homeless in September 2021. I do have an income so I needed assurance (see what I did there?) that what I had left was safe and insured. Assurant is affordable and it was easy to apply for. The documents I needed were available immediately.

My experience has been the most horrific experience I have ever experienced when it comes to service! I filed a claim October 6, 2022. I was sent an email stating my claim was received and to submit documentation. Due to this being my first time filing a claim I had more questions regarding what was needed. I called customer service and was told what to submit and how to submit it. I submitted all documents and was given a date of October 21st 2022 when it comes to hearing from the adjuster Hilda **. That did not happen. I then called and was told by customer service Hilda left a note in the account stating she tried calling me. However, my voice mail was full and she could not leave a message. This was false. I was then given a date of November 4th.
November 4th came. I called the company and spoke with customer service who gives the bare minimum in information at least 8 times. I was told Hilda was available and would call me by the end of the day. I called 30 minutes before closing and was told she responded to the chat and would call me before she left for the day and still never called. I called back on the next Monday and Hilda left another note saying she tried calling me and left a voicemail on the 4th. This was not true. I asked for a call on Monday and never received a call. I called back today and was told Hilda put another note in the account saying she tried calling me on yesterday which was Monday and left a message. This is not true. I asked for a manager and was told by Donna this was not possible.
I then spoke with John in customer service who stated he had to escalate this to a manager. Through all of this I have called Geico who escalated this to a manager, this has also been escalated 3 other times, I have not heard from a manager even after leaving messages for one. Hilda ** is noting lies in the account causing the escalations to pause. My goal is to get this complaint to the claims liaison. I am being told this is not possible because the adjuster Hilda is noting she is trying to call me. She never leaves an update regarding my claim.
Customer service refuses to complete task I ask of them due to trying for weeks to speak with my adjuster. I asked for a manager in customer service and was told they take calls to help with the queue and could not speak with me. Donna in customer service is really rude and these reps are not equipped to be able to help customers. It has now been over a month since I filed my claim with no updates. There is no way possible to speak with my adjuster nor a manager. This is horrible!

I'm using Assurant because my late mother was a policyholder and she was was very happy with the coverage. That's what made me decide to use Assurant for renter's insurance. Their integrity and commitment are vital. I wouldn't trust any other company other than Assurant, I trust them when it comes to coverage for personal items and whatnot; I believe they're the best company out there. As I said, my late mother utilized Assurant and she was extremely satisfied; so, it was natural for me to choose them too.

Easy to enroll / de-enroll. Everything done online. I didn’t make any claims yet, thanks god no issues or damages so far but I think the claim process also will be easy if it comes to that. I trust Geico and its sister companies for almost 15 years, they never let me down.

Luckily I have not had to use the insurance and hope I never will have to. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I have this and because I bundled it with car insurance and I got a great rate. The paperwork was all online and it was easy to understand and read. Even living in a senior apartment that has fire suppression and smoke systems, this insurance will cover all my belongings.

My renters' insurance company has responded to my claim, in a timely and professional manner. I have been a Geico customer, for many years, so, when they recommended Assurant, I trusted their advice. I realize, that many property management companies require that the tenant carry renter's insurance. I rent from an individual (who owns multiple homes, which he leases, on an annual basis). He did not have that requirement, but I decided, since it is a single family home, that I should get the insurance.

Hurricane Ion was here over a month ago. I filed my claim long time ago. I can’t leave a message in cars. Mailbox is full. I’ve sent several emails. No replies. I even texted. No replies. I am disgusted with this company. Even though my payment goes on time monthly.. They don’t even have a customer relations department managers and claim adjusters work until five only so after hours service is useless. Unfortunately they’re still paying to the staff… So renters insurance buyers please be aware it may be a fraudulent set up, not really clear what’s going on!!! Anything I can say is no replies.

I changed to Geico Motorcycle Insurance and Assurant Renters Insurance. I saved $1,000.00 by changing to Geico Motorcycle Insurance with better coverage including roadside assistance and towing and saved $1,000.00. The renters Insurance was about the same cost of my previous renters Insurance Policy BUT I received better coverage with Assurant.

My basement flooded due to a faulty washing machine. I contacted Assurant and filed a claim to have my pack out covered so the repairs could be done by my landlord. I spoke to my adjuster, who was very friendly, a few times during the initial filing. Once the work was complete and I was ready to have my personal property returned, the pack-out company, Core Restores, needed to settle the account with them first.
I have been attempting to contact Assurant since the work was done around the 2nd of this month, as has Core. They have not returned my phone calls or emails and have only responded once to Core to request billing information. I’ve made daily calls to both my adjuster as well as her manager and have not received a response. Furthermore, I reached out to other people at Assurant and done the same, with no response. I’ve never had such abysmal service with a company like this. Their lack of response seems to be a willful avoidance.

The process was very easy and seamless to take care of online. However, there was an issue with date feature when listing items. It does not allow you to choose October, November, or December as the month. Also, the area to type out the details of the incident had a maximum amount of characters. These two issues prevented total accuracy while reporting details to the claim.

Very easy to include with car insurance. I just called GEICO and received the information to include. Very efficient. Representative was efficient, provided the information I needed, and processed the insurance very quickly. No muss, no fuss!! All representatives need to respond to their customers with empathy and efficiency. Assurant has done this throughout the years I have had coverage.

The claim filing website was easy to use. The only thing I'd suggest improving would be the access to it. I had to go through many phone service hoops to get the link. If it was easily accessible via mobile app, it would be much better.

I found it very easy to increase my coverage as I went through the renewal process. With inflation I decided it wise to increase the coverage amount. I find your premium quite good as well. Your website is easy to use.

Updated on 10/31/2022: I have had a claim open since (Labor Day weekend). I am working with George G. It took him 2 weeks just for the initial call. Once received he informed me of the things they were not going to be able to pay for, he also let me know that I need to find the receipts to the items I am reporting, which other insurance companies do not require you to do this however I found most of them and used bank statements for the ones I did not have. Another 3 weeks passed and I had not heard anything from him when I did he had his own prices on the items that he asked me to get proof of then did not include all of my items.
Once I received my eob I seen what he had done and had questions because he had released my check and I had 72 hour to enter deposit info or they would mail a check. I had tried several times to get in contact. Still no response every time I call the number. There are no adjusters open to take call and I get sent to a voicemail. I have even sent countless emails. I am keeping record of the number of emails and phone calls I am making and the turnaround that it is taking to have them returned just in case I need to go legal route. This is absurd and I am not sure if George is upset that I had to file a claim or not but I have had renters insurance for over 10 years and never had to file a claim and to be treated as if I'm money hungry is unprofessional. Not one time has he even said I'm sorry. This has happen he started off with what they can and cannot pay for. I would like a resolution asap! This is very upsetting.
Original Review: My home was broken into Labor Day weekend, & several items were taken. I filed the police report & filed my claim. It now 9/23 & I haven’t heard one word from the company. I’ve called 100x to adjuster goes straight to vm. I’ve called to speak with rep who said she couldn’t help but sent over a message. This is ridiculous. The situation of being violated in your own home is one thing but you pay all this money for situations like this & they do not even have the moral obligation to answer a phone call or return one back. This is horrible! & I will be canceling my policy no point of giving away free money

We have been w/ Assurant Renters for a few years now. The quality of their Customer Service Reps, you can't find anymore.. They are knowledgeable, Courteous and treat you the way you would want to be. They treat you as "Family". We will never leave them and tell all my friends to make the switch..

Paid claim timely caused by timely. However, somewhat disappointed my claim was denied so I had to pay for the damages caused by tenant. Nonetheless, it is beneficial to have landlord insurance, it's a saving grace, and keeps situations timely and less confusing.

Coverage is just what we need, received a reminder a well before renewal was due, ease of using site to renew was simple, price was right, and discount for multiple policies (auto being the other through GIECO) was a bonus. The Ceiling fell in and I made a claim, the customer service agent was thorough with a quick information gathering process. The call to action online claim process was efficient to start the process. No real way to ascertain the level of service yet.

Have water damage in my apartment. Have 3 kids. My walls are completely torn apartment. I should not be staying here and I tried to contact my adjuster 30 times today. Goes straight to voicemail. By far the worst experience I’ve ever had. If anybody needs renters insurance I suggest you pick another company.

Having renters insurance is affordable and very easy so everyone should buy for his own peace of mind. Also, today most of the rentals require renters insurance. Everyone should get it sooner than later. Me and my family get it without any hassle so why not everyone.

Great company to do business with. You guys are always ready to answer my questions and I always get great service. I am so thankful for Assurant. I purchased my rental insurance through Geico and though I could not afford renters and auto I contacted my renters insurance and made my payment and right after my things were stolen, broken and I was in a wreck. I live in a college dorm and every body. Anybody listening...You need this. Though college should be safe. Things happen. It's only a small fee per month and could save you a lot of hardship in the end. At least you get the thing you need.

This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Put in an insurance claim back in June and yet any updates or communication. When you call no one ever answers the phone, they tell you leave a voicemail, but no one ever returns your call. Sent several emails, no responses, then they tell you text, but still no response. You try to talk to a supervisor but all you get is a voicemail with no response. I call and got through one time, my claims adjuster asked for my claims number, she said, "Let me put you on hold while I look up your claim number," and to my surprise, after being left on hold for 10 minutes, the phone hangs up, tries to call back and it goes straight to voicemail. This is ridiculous, why are they an insurance company if they refuse to communicate with their clients. Will be carrying my services to another company, someone who cares about their clients.

Customer service is very efficient and friendly. The response is very quick. 10/10 on people skills! The insurance scheme is also easily understandable. Would recommend renters to go with their insurance programs. They can also edit and correct your insurance plan over phone very quickly. Even though the waiting time was long to get connected, the work was done very quickly and efficiently.

The representative that helped us was fantastic! Made the entire process easy. We had been having issues with the lender rep being able to set up the escrow account for the insurance. When I called Assurant I had no problem finishing the set up. It made my day! I had no idea why there was a problem.

Updated on 09/09/2022: I really don’t like to write reviews however it seems writing one here is the only way I get a response from this company. I had initially filed a claim 07/27/22 due to water from drain getting all over my laundry room floor and ruining hundreds of dollars of clothes, a mattress and other items I had stored in there. They said inspector had to come and see the damaged property, when he showed up Sunday morning unannounced I was still in bed but I called him back and just for his information let him know I had already thrown out the damaged property as it had already been a week and the clothes and everything were moldy and I am sensitive/allergic to mold.
He said that was fine, could I text him pictures of the items and also of the basement. Which I did, and have the text still of him saying “that should work”. That was 7/31. I did not receive any email or phone call from my adjuster until Cynthia until 8/16 when she left me a message and said they had to deny my claim due to me telling the adjuster/inspector I did not want him coming into my home to inspect the property. Completely untrue information as I never once told him he could not come in. I told her that and on her message she said if I’d like to allow entry he could come back out. I called and let her know that and said, "Perfect send him back out." That was on 8/22.
On 8/25 after not hearing anything from inspector in regards to an appointment I sent over an email to Cynthia and asked about it. She then called me and let me know the inspector had already told them he wouldn’t be coming back out as it was too late to tell if water was from flood (my state and areas around me did have flooding that week, however my water issue in the laundry room has happened before this flooding and is still happening as I am waiting on the landlord/plumbing company to fix the backed up pipes).
So due to the company's negligence to inform me without the inspector coming inside (I thought he just wanted to see damaged items and was never told differently until after the fact) that my claim would be denied and due to lack of responsiveness my claim had to be denied? They said if I wanted to get a report from a plumber that shows there is a back up and send it I that they would reconsider the claim. My landlord finally got an appointment with the plumber. He said there was severe back up due to tree roots, soil and possibly a broken pipe. As soon as I received the report from the plumber company I emailed it to Cynthia, as instructed on 9/1/22. I also uploaded on the website and then sent again on 9/2 asking has it been received.
I have YET to hear any type of response no call, no email nothing. Even if just to say, "Nope it’s still not covered." One main problem is they are an hour ahead of my time, I work as well so every time we try to contact each other in the phone it’s like we’re playing phone tag and say, "Well if email's better we can email." I send multiple emails and even when I was able to call and it seems like no one gets my emails as like I am ignoring them and they have been desperately trying to reach me by any avenue available but can not, especially until I come on here and write a review or a response to review and then they respond.
I can show proof of all the calls and emails I have sent. I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism, the processing time, the lack of clear communication, etc that I have received during this process. I have never had to nor never wanted to have to file a claim before and now that I needed to it has added undue stress into my life.
Original Review: I recently had drain backup and a lot of water in my basement which damaged a lot of my things. At first I didn’t think about filing a claim as I thought it wouldn’t be covered. A friend of mine told me submit it anyway you never know. So I did and I also saw I had water/sewer back up coverage. I submitted the claim around 7/26, I got an initial call which I missed due to working but tried to call back and couldn’t get through. I also sent an email and never got a response. When I talked to the guy coming out to assess the property the Sunday after I filed the claim I had let him know that due to severe flooding in the area the city was offering free dumpsters for people to throw out all their water damaged property so I took advantage of that. I already suspect mold in my house as a lot of clothes had to be thrown away due to mold and I have bad mold allergies. I did not hesitate to throw out the ruined property.
I uploaded the pictures of damage/items on the website and also sent some to the adjuster as well. He submitted them on 7/30. The portal says my stuff was submitted on 7/28 and to expect an email within 2-3 business days and since then I have not gotten another email, phone call or anything. The hold up with this is keeping me from potentially getting assistance from another source such as FEMA due to declared disaster because they need to know if I received anything from insurance first. I would just like an update on my claim and to know if I need to submit anything further.

It is one of the companies under Warren Buffet. Particularly in insurance business, integrity and trust are 2 most important tenets. Buffet have both. I also had a Geico car insurance. Now that I currently have a Travelers and had 2 claims, against which I can compare my experience. Travelers processing is slow and inaccurate as my body shop had to correct their assessor's estimate and also as I had to correct their quote of my coverage. I am extrapolating my experience in the condo policy. That's why I switched to the Geico recommended company. kt

I appreciate receiving advance notice of my renewal & the option of automatic payment that Assurant offers customers. The coverage is very comprehensive for the premium cost with some extra inclusions for additional protection. The company gives their clients good value for the money.

The process was very easy and I was wowed at the cost (very reasonable). I always thought renter's insurance was not necessary because I did not think I had anything of value to insure however after talking to the representative, I realized I was wrong and that I was making a good choice in starting a policy.

When I need my condo insurance, I looked around and I found this insurance very reasonable premium and the coverage. I have been with them for > 5 years. Same premium for the same coverage. Their customer service is very efficient.

Everything seems so good so far, it was referred to us by our apartment agency and our property is extravagant and the payment plans are good. It's nice to go 5 months and not have to pay a bill during the summer. I just hope they pay damages as they claim they would if it is ever needed. I love the easy online payments. So I can only speak to one side of the experience and not the full experience. Client for a few years now. The last rate increase was a bit much. Insurance executives need to learn to take a pay cut from the top and pass it on to the renters who made them rich.

Easy, seamless communication on the website, so you don't need to get on the phone with anyone, and you have all the information at your disposal. The email and billing schedules are also very, very well done. I would highly recommend this provider to people living in apartments and homes are. This is the best-priced renter's insurance & coverage that I have found. Also, it's a plus that they are partnered with Geico, with whom I have car insurance. I like that they offer different payment schedules, i.e. monthly, quarterly & annually.

The Representatives I spoke with were very helpful. It was very easy to set up the policy. They gave me all the information I needed. I then unfortunately had to postpone my move-in date, and when I called assurance, the representatives were very understanding and made me feel comfortable and reassured me that the previous policy would be canceled and a new one would be written and sent to me. And that was done very quickly and I was able to forward it to the apartment complex.

The Claim process was a bit confusing. It wasn't clear if my claim was handled by emailing pictures or the person that came to make the estimate. It also never was any follow up whether the claim will be paid by my policy or the building's master policy. Compared to GEICO auto policy certainly it was a lot different service.

I filed a claim on May 10th 2022 about my items being stolen from a moving truck. My adjuster manager goes in and denies my claim saying they don’t cover damaged property. I clearly said I had STOLEN PROPERTY so they closed it based on the wrong assumption. Adjuster tells me she will partner with the manager and says she can do my claim in one day and all of a sudden everyone is ghost. I called in several times about someone calling me back to tell me what’s going on and a month later still nothing so I’m reporting this company. They are terrible and don’t return calls or emails. I’m disgusted and I can’t even go the website to check my claims because it is not updated. No way I’m going to keep paying to be covered and get this type of treatment. Anywhere else the claim would have been done and settled.

I recommend that everyone should have rental insurance on their personal belongings. Most do not realize that other insurance does not cover personal belongings. Assurant staff really broke it down for me and gave me all the information I needed. I am glad and proud to have Assurant behind me. They have my back.

I spoke with someone after hurricane Ida about an electrical surge that burned my washing machine wire. I was told someone would get back with me. It worked out and I didn't have to replace my machine, but I never got a return call. Although, I didn't need to file a claim, I expected a return call.

I am very satisfied with my Assurant policy. The premiums are low. Sign up and renewal is effortless. Filing a claim is easy. They paid my landlord for some flooding damage and didn't raise my rate. The only thing I don't like is that I can't change my billing options online.

I just asked her about renters insurance. She directed me to another team member. At the end I got renters insurance in upcoming 15-20 minutes. Okay. I am a single, "over the road" trucker and I am rarely able to be at home. I was not aware that my rental insurance had lapsed (it slipped through the cracks in my bill-paying) and I was very concerned that I was going to have a problem getting it reinstated. When I called the Assurant Renters Insurance number, the people were very helpful and the reinstatement was easily and almost effortlessly accomplished. I was pleasantly surprised and I give Assurant a 100%, "A+" grade. Everything is back in order now and all is well. I can be out here rolling and delivering stuff all over America without being concerned about my coverage! Excellent!

Believe me, if I could recommend an insurance it would be GEICO. Trust me, It has a tremendous platform and it is easy to use. It is unbelievably fabulous how transparent this company is. To be perfectly honest, it is very much involved in the quality of their service, that I can tell you. I wouldn’t recommend anyone purchase insurance with Assurant, ever. For starters I’ve been a customer for a little over 2 years, considering I never had to file a claim in that time span everything was fine. My autopay came out on time every month and that was that. Fast forward to March 19, 2022 I was returning from out of town for my birthday trip and I made a stop along the way. My car was broken into and EVERYTHING I had was stolen. My window left shattered, almost $7,000 in Louis Vuitton luggage stolen. All of my new clothes I had JUST shopped for, it was all gone. Everything.
Long story short, my claims process has been the absolute WORST! In fact, it’s been so bad that I cancelled my policy DURING my claims process and found renters insurance elsewhere because in the event that something else devastating happens, I NEVER want to have to deal with them again in life. I have been so utterly frustrated that I cannot even begin to express it. My biggest regret it not researching this company, because there are so many reviews from people who shared the same experience as to what I’m currently going through.
It is now May 7th and my claim is still “pending”. I have been assigned two different claims examiners, both of which have been God awful. If you have this insurance, pray to God that you don’t get Rebecca ** or Lindsey **. Rebecca was my initial claims examiner, she wasn’t that awful but her customer service still sucked. Lindsey however is the absolute devil. She doesn’t return voicemails, she’s only responded to ONE email of 11 sent, which was just a generic correspondence letter. I have called and left voicemails for both their supervisors (Ron ** & another lady whose name I can’t remember), all which were unreturned and unanswered. I beg and plead in emails for someone to just respond to me and update me, and still nothing.
These claim examiners are the laziest most rude people ever and I’m utterly disgusted that something like this could ever happen. Lindsey has called me ONCE after I had to have a customer service representative instance message her while she was in her office (coincidentally I had called her direct extension twice before the customer service line and she didn’t answer, prime example of how negligent, careless and unresponsive she is) and she stated she requested my police report on April 5, 2022. My incident occurred on March 19, 2022.
To add insult to injury, I found out she had never requested my police report until April 15, 2022, not the 5th like she lied and said. I ended up requesting my own police report and obtained it in 24 HOURS!!! After she again lied and told me “you won’t be able to get it any faster than I can so you’ll just have to wait until I get it back.” Nobody treats you like a victim, and not that that’s necessarily the treatment I want but I am one!!!!! My car was vandalized and I had THOUSANDS of dollars worth of items stolen from me, and they simply do not care. They take your money every month but as soon as you file a claim you’re met with unprofessionalism, you get ignored, they treat you like they’re disposing of you.
Everything I’m saying I have proof of. All emails that have gone unresponded to. Screenshots of all the calls I’ve made, voice recordings of the voicemails I’ve left, everything! I’m at my wit's end, it’ll be 2 months next week with no resolution reached. If you are reading this considering insuring with Assurant, DO NOT DO IT! Should you ever need to file a claim, you WILL regret it!!!!

In short I recently had a vehicle with my belongings stolen that are covered under my policy.. The process is drawn out and the adjusters are pure lazy!! They do not help and expect you to do their jobs.. I also have Progressive for my car and worked with them simultaneously.. The experience was day and night.. My Progressive adjuster was available and returned calls while my Assurant rep was never available regardless of email, text to the designated app or phone.. I loved working with my Progressive guy. He made me feel like he cares.. Assurant had a, "Well you figure it out attitude.." Not someplace I wanna continue to give my money to.. With Progressive my claim was resolved in 1 week and a half while it been a month and 2 weeks with Assurant still going through claims process .. I feel like I need to note I am no way affiliated with Progressive just had a way better and seamless experience with them considering.

I did not understand the initial renewal charge of $23.51, while the recurring monthly payments for the year are $16.95. I am guessing the $6.76 difference is due to the start date of my policy. It would be nice to have an explanation.

I wish there was a way to provide more information about a product. like my comforter, bit is a King Size down hypoallergenic comforter. this type of comforter is usually around $500 for a quality item. Mine was $370. It's worth the price as it still looked as new as when I purchased it prior to this incident.

There are some questions that don’t match the damage, but have to be answered anyway. For example my damage was on the roof, there were no rooms affected(interior). For the most part however, it’s an efficient method to file a claim.

I have had renter's insurance with Assurant for about 10 years, and it is one of the most affordable rental insurance plans that I have found. I had to make a claim for the first time a year and a half ago, when the building next door caught fire. Though we didn't burn, all of my belongings were damaged or destroyed by smoke and soiled by soot. Assurant made sure that all of my textiles got a professional cleaning and that badly damaged furniture and artwork could be replaced. I can not recommend Assurant highly enough.

Hello to all who read this review. As a 3 year customer of Assurant Rental Insurance, I found it to be an immense dissatisfier with the management of my Water Damage claim. The Claim Adjuster ** was unbelievably rude and disrespectful, provided subpar customer service, and treated me as if I was NOT the victim of substantial water leakage/Flooding due to the negligence of my property management. The adjuster would not contact my property management for verification despite that information being requested in the initial claim application.
It was very unfortunate that I was treated in this manner and I dreaded inquiring about my claim status as S.J. was my claim adjuster. My family and I have since replaced what we could of our own property and relocated because of this debacle. The anxiety of having another flooding event and having a Renters Insurance company that will argue, debate, belittle, demean, and degrade their paying customers that are under the impression of being insured is a bit overwhelming. I hope that the company utilizes a more customer service framework moving forward and develops more of a culture that is inviting [FOR CUSTOMERS} as opposed to one that is discrediting.

Updated on 03/10/2022: Update on my previous review - I just received notification I am getting a settlement of $2,000 for my $14,000 claim - my MacBook and iPad were worth that much. This place is a scam and they are evil. STAY AWAY.
Original Review: STAY AWAY!! This company feels like a complete scam. My apartment was broken into and it has been nothing but trouble since I filed this claim. It took me FOUR HOURS to report all of the items stolen on their website (two tries) and it wouldn't work. I finally called and was casually told.... "Oh, yeah... our website can only take two or three items and you have to email the rest." Since I've filed the claim (only 3 items) and emailed the list, I have had to submit and resubmit my police report and property loss list three times - my adjuster, Toni **, was insistent each time that I never sent it. It was submitted with the original claim, it was emailed, and it was texted to her twice (so I could track it and provide proof). This delayed my claim by three weeks before it was even started.
I am certain she is screwing with me and intentionally delaying my claim. I caught her accidentally admitting that I sent the reports and list with my original claim - she has been openly lying to me. When she finally accepted that she had it, then she needed additional information that could have been requested 3 weeks prior. She promised to process by the end of last week, after no communication I reached out and, of course, it will be processed by the end of this week. These people are evil. Taking advantage of vulnerable people in traumatic situations. It is vile. I will be surprised if I get a small fraction of compensation for what was lost. Stay away from this company.

Their claims process starts off great. Until they realize they owe the insured money for property damages and loss of location fees due to a fire. Then Assurant ignores your claim completely and hopes you forget or you just disappear.

Assurant home insurance company. I have filed 1 other claim with Assurant and the results were fast and simple. Their personnel have always been polite and respectful. I am older and had to have things repeated but the agent didn't seem to mind. As of February 16th 2022 I have a new claim for wind damage on my roof. The setup process was hassle-free and their rate is very affordable compared to other providers I contacted prior. I was done within minutes. Can't recommend them enough if the goal is an amazing variety of services that are not cutthroat.

I had a large claim and it was handled very professionally and was please very well. My adjuster was very knowledgeable and courteous. I was very happy when they continued my my policy with a good rate on my renewal. It is very easy to make payment using the online internet site. The site is easy to use and does so quickly. I am glad to see an insurance company still values their customers time.

it was easy to file a claim. It gave more detailed information. Last page of little confusing, need some detailed information to submit the review. Other than that, it is cool idea to submit the claim online.

After, I called the claims department, I liked cutting right to chase and having the option to get sent a text that directed me right to the online claims website. I liked submitting the claim online, the website was really clear concise, easy to follow and the process was rather quick.

Obtaining and paying for the policy was extremely easy and quick, I liked this policy even though it was a little more expensive because it had some additional coverage that not every other company offers. Everyone I've spoken to has been really nice as well. My problems, or rather concerns I guess, started when I filed a claim clearly covered by my policy - or so I thought, and I did check with Geico before I filed.
Today, the adjuster told me that unfortunately this loss would not be covered because it was not a "named peril" under Section 1. She is right about that, but I was filing a claim under what was supposed to be "Additional Coverages," which is listed under Section 2 along with a few other things. She said that since one part of Section 2 discusses exclusions that means everything in that section is excluded. Insurance policies are generally worded a bit strangely, but a phrase in a section dedicated to additional things they also cover besides all of the things they listed already that starts with "We will pay" is fairly unambiguous language. She couldn't really explain it after I pointed this out, only agreeing that the wording throws people off all the time.
The adjuster was nice, and she said she'd try to get her supervisor to call me, but this is a little bit much. The fact that I can't speak to anyone else now that I've filed a claim is a bit frustrating too, but it does make sense for a claimant to be routed directly to their adjuster instead of an agent at the main call center having to connect it each time. I've never filed a claim before and at least that part of the process was much easier than I was expecting. I just need someone to make this make sense for me.

It wasn't hard or confusing at all to file a claim online, just answering the questions about what happened whatever your situation may be.. Not bad at all and if you have any questions or problems they will assist you.

I had no issues in filing a claim this afternoon. The interface categories made submitting my claim and the loss details very easy. For these reasons I will continue to use Assurant to file any claims in the future.

Relatively easy to submit claim online and to upload photos, documents through the Assurant portal. Allowed me to upload law enforcement report, photos and item descriptions as a separate document I had ready to upload rather than type into the portal. I suffered substantial property theft and vandalism and am hoping for cooperative claim coverage.

I've been happy with the amount of coverage I get for the rate that it's offered at. I've never once broken the bank paying for my policy and the staff and service have always been top notch. Even if I sometimes forget to renew a payment I'm glad that the reinstatement is an easy fix that just picks the service back up and doesn't reset it. I honestly really love that about this company. Thank you!

Was easy to start process of getting home insured. Once insured, always easy to pay premium online and file a claim. Paying premiums was easy with several payment plans available. So far have filed one claim and process was easy to start.
