Since 2015. My daughter and I bought a home, they didn't shows us the home until after we signed papers, was told it was a miracle we got it, and I thank God, but regardless if it's a miracle or not we are paying almost 600 a month. Nothing was done as I ask they had to come back to do my floors which now have strips that collect dirt when I sweep, counter tops scratched, the kitchen counter edge is worn off as if it had been years, all the cabinets are peeling fake wood paper off, and at floor where I mop, they finally got me a garden tub I had requested, came, put that in. Didn't frame it or put enough glue. It's coming loose from wall and water will get behind it, light switches just fall off, Mike tells me he's gotta order stuff and never hear back from them or he's always on vacation. Love my house and very thankful for it but really? 3 years? I just quit calling.

We bought our house around July 2017, and moved in in Oct 2017. The buying process was super simple and set up was fast, however the house is literally coming apart. A service tech was sent to my home in November to fix the long list of mess ups and broken things, but NOTHING was fixed, just made to look WORSE! My cabinet doors were very uneven so the tech took them off and rescrewed them on and stuck putty in the holes from the previous screws. The tech removed the molding around my bedroom door to replace it and even it out, and he cracked it and PUT IT BACK AROUND THE DOOR. There is a gap that is progressively getting wider between my master bedroom and bathroom where the house is supposed to be put together. There is a huge scratch in my living room wall. Other bedroom doors are very uneven.
My back door and front door both do not seal and have to be slammed to shut. The second time the tech came out, he replaced the door frame and back door. He smeared caulk all on my door, vinyl siding and on my back porch. The door is worse than it was to begin with. The carpet in my living room looks 4 years old compared to 4 months old. Molding is falling from various places in the house. I went to my home office and spoke with them and told them that I did not want that service tech back at my home, that I needed someone else that knew what they were doing to get my home fixed. They scheduled the same guy to come back to my house after I told them I did not want him back at my house!

Macey, I am sorry to hear about the experience your family has had with your home so far. A member of our Customer Advocacy Team will be reaching out to you privately.

We'd been looking around quite a while and Clayton was one of the closest dealers we had. They gave us a better deal overall and I liked the floor plans they had. The whole process took five months which was faster than I thought it would be. They give me anything I want and anytime I have trouble, they send somebody right out. We’ve had some issues with the furnace going out and a few minor things, but other than that, I've been satisfied.

We're glad to hear that you're satisfied, Kirk! Thank you for taking the time to let us know. Congratulations on your new home!

We started looking into manufactured homes around January of 2015. Everybody out in the Farmington office and in Colorado office up at the Federal was really nice. They offered a lot of help in those places. And their representatives are easy to deal with. They want to see their customer get into a home and be happy with it. So, they do all they can. They worked with us on everything. They would work with us when we wanted to be down there and see what’s happening. So, they took a while because we’re bouncing between Colorado and New Mexico.
This new home was up and running by Christmas. It was done in a good timing manner. I like a lot of the modern updates and that they use a lot of the PVC impacts for pipelines in there. So, it’s nice compared to a lot of manufactured homes that I’ve seen. We spent a week down there and on and off, it was cold and we had space heaters running so nothing would freeze underneath the house. It keeps heat in there and our whole bill for two and a half months was $7. It's efficient. We’re just looking forward to dealing with them on April and get a lot distressed cracks fixed and little touch ups here and there that they had said they would help us take care of. But everything else seemed to be great. There’s not half as many cracks that one would see with a manufactured home. They did a fantastic job fixing it. I would say to somebody to definitely check them out.

We appreciate the positive feedback, Andrew! Thank you for taking the time to share. We pride ourselves in building energy efficient homes and love hearing from satisfied customers. Congratulations on the new home!

Whenever I called Clayton, their reps helped me with anything I needed. They were easy to get along with. And it was very easy enrolling with them. The process started in February and ended in August, it took so long to sell my home. But once my home was sold, the process was quick. The home I have now is much smaller and I'm comfortable in it. I would recommend Clayton Homes.

We appreciate the kind words, Kelli! Thank you for taking the time to share your home buying experience with us. We're happy to hear you're comfortable in your new home.

I had a bad credit and didn't think I'd be able to get a mobile home, but Clayton Homes worked me through and I'm living in one now. I worked with Wes and he did really good. Everything was already on the lot, and the refrigerator is the only thing I customized. The builders of the home didn't do very good as far as building it and making everything fit right. The walls inside this thing and the doors are really bad. My daughter has got her bedroom light on and I cut the lights off from the living room, and I see the lights through the top of the walls from her bedroom and mine. And then, the doors are crooked as they can be. The quality of the home is poor as far as I'm concerned. If I had built it, I'd never been able to sell it. But other than that, Clayton is going to take care of the issue. So, everything has been good.

We lived in an RV for a year and a half and we got a Clayton property. Rhonda, the rep that we worked with was awesome. She gave us hope. We're not living in an RV anymore but we now live in a nice house. It got to a point where our home buying process was made easier. Clayton got the pad done really quickly and they paid for the rafters to put in. And then when they put the well in, they paid for some add-ons that don't normally come with the house. So, I'm very grateful that they really took care of us. The pad part was not the best thing, but everything else was nice. I love the lights and it's a spacious home. We bought one that has the right proportions and it's got the right spaces where they belong. Overall, Clayton did an incredible job. I'd recommend them and I'd tell others to go see Rhonda.

My wife had done some research and found the layout that we wanted. We went to Clayton Homes and saw Jeremy and we told him what we were looking for. He made some recommendations about the home as far as the quality and we decided to go with the Buccaneer. We sat down with him, went through the books and went through the different colors and floors, and got exactly what we were looking for. We changed the floors and the cover in the middle. There were some cabinet tops that my wife wanted. There was a desk that we didn't want, and we had them pull that out for the bookcase there, and that really came out nice. So, everything that we customized on it really came out great.
All the contractors that we used that they recommended did an outstanding job. The concrete guys came in, we had long talks with them and they showed up a couple of times before we even poured concrete under it. We got it all talked out. And then, when it came to putting the trailer there and doing all the follow-up work, Lawrence and his crew were excellent. They did everything we asked them to do and even pointed out some things we had missed.
We were all flooded out here and that's the reason why everybody went into buying new homes but they had problem after problem. But we didn't have any of that. The quality of our home is excellent. And for the few little problems that we had, Lawrence and his crew came in and jumped right on it. Clayton did an excellent job. They have done everything we've asked and they were really easy to work with. I've recommended them to several people, including my daughter, who bought a piece of property right next door to me. She'll be going there and dealing with Jeremy again to buy her new trailer over the summer.

We LOVED reading your review, John! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your positive feedback with us. We're thrilled to hear how well your home buying experience went and how happy you are with the home itself! We'll be sure to pass along your praises of Jeremy and the whole team! A couple of corrections had to be made once the home came in but that wasn’t Clayton's fault. I was a hundred percent satisfied with them. They were helpful, didn’t try to push me into doing anything and didn’t pressure me. They were very knowledgeable and thoroughly explained the home buying aspects more than I could’ve hoped for. The guy that we dealt with at Clayton Homes, Nate, was excellent and personable. He helped and kept us up in the loop of what we could do and couldn't do. Now, he's a manager of their Cleveland office. So, we dealt with Chase and he finished it right up. We got in almost a year ago, but one of the big hold-ups was that we previously lived in my parents' house which was on the property that Clayton put the new house on. They had to tear it down and clear the land off. Then, there was a hold-off from Real county even though it's an Anderson county with the weather as the issue.
By the time that we got it, the flooring and the backsplashes were obsolete. So, I got to pick out what I wanted for those items and the curtains that came with it. Then, the cost that could have built the front porch was a lot more than what I was willing to pay. So, we just went with the landing area in the front and had the back porch covered. We didn't want to smoke in the house so we needed something covered outside. It was cheaper to get a smaller back porch covered than have a bigger front porch covered and we’re happy with it.
Berry, the repair guy has always been here anytime we had a few little nicks and crannies. When we called Clayton, we talked to Ben, who we also appreciate along with Chase. They’ve been very helpful and great, but Berry has sometimes went way above and beyond when he comes here to take care of something. He’s been very educational on how to take care of different things and lets me know different things that we could do to keep all of our system going properly. For instance, I didn’t know how to change the back-end lot over the big tub master bathroom and he showed me how to get the little lock up and down so that next time, I could do it.
It also came with a fireplace and the house is spacious. The electric bills went down quite a bit. However, the water bill went up because now we have three bathrooms versus one bathroom. But other than that, the house is great. We love it and we're very pleased with the house. It really looked like the model that we looked at. We didn’t change anything because I fell in love with it. I have recommended them to several friends. I told my friends that Clayton Homes would work with them no matter who or what they are. Clayton tries to help everyone and fix something. They weren’t pushy like a lot of salesmen are. They explained my options and gave me time to think about it. When we decided to buy, they walked us step-by-step and we didn’t really have that much to worry about ‘cause they took care of everything. They just told us when we had to do something. Now, two of my friends are looking at Clayton Homes.

Tammie, your review is music to our ears! We love hearing about our customers' wonderful home buying experiences! It sounds like everyone you worked with went above and beyond for you, which is exactly what we want. Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us and congratulations on your new home!

I had already looked at a lot of stuff and I don't like it when reps follow me around. But Cindy of Clayton Homes was great. There was never any question that she couldn't answer and she answered immediately. She was the only person that gave me the keys and let me just go and look, so I didn't feel pressured. That was the best thing she has done for me. I found what I wanted in less than an hour and I was very happy. I wanted two bedrooms and the thing has two bathrooms, which was very important for me. After we picked out the house, we came back the next day to buy it.
Cindy was very knowledgeable and helpful with everything, including making sure that we can't put down the property because we had some trouble with the rail but even before we realize we needed the help, she was already on top of it. She did a very good job and was very easy to get along with. Wendy was really good too. She's the lady that sends out the guys if there's something that needed to be fixed. Everyone we spoke to was really good.
We would recommend Clayton Homes to another friend. When we buy another one, we'd buy it from Cindy as well. If all reps would handle it like she did, that would be fantastic. Overall, Clayton Homes was great. They went above and beyond anything that they should have been able to do. We had problems with a part, and they stepped in and took care of it. They made everything super easy for me.

Extremely satisfied with Clayton Homes. Randi, the sales rep we worked with, was just amazing. I went in initially by myself, as my wife was out of town, and met with Randi, and she showed me what was available. When I got my wife over there a week or two later, she literally started just picking out the design and materials that she wanted. My wife selected which cabinet color, and surface, and quality she wanted. We also extended the floorplan a couple of feet on the length of the home so it made the dining room two feet longer. We also took out a closet out of the hallway and increased the master bedroom closet size. And the process seemed to flow very easily and straightforward. The knowledge of our consultant was extremely high.
We placed the order right at the end of the year. We moved in Memorial Day weekend, so the process until having it took five months. However, part of the holdup was the lot we were going on. There was a delay because of the weather and everything else in getting the lot prepped, but that was outside of Clayton's. We had a fantastic experience with it. It worked out extremely well for us and so we’d refer friends to them.

After I met my salesman from Clayton Homes I felt comfortable and I didn't feel like he was jerking me around. And I wanted to deal with him just because of that reason. I was very pleased with the way Matt handled everything and I would refer people to him. I trust him a good deal. The process was a little bit overwhelming. I didn't know what to do but everybody that was supposed to be there helped me all the way through and I appreciate them for that. There was also a lady who I spoke to about 50 times on the phone and she helped me tremendously.
I'm very happy with the home. We like everything about it. But I'm still waiting on some parts like the back door and some things that were supposed to be changed. The doors are a big thing for me because there's a crease across the back of my door and some stuff on the front of the door that they had to change too. I went through the holidays with my family coming to see my new place and it ended up that the doors are not looking right.
I'm not necessarily upset but I would like to go ahead and get that part done. I had a problem and they came this week. They sent somebody over so it's not like we haven't been in touch. It just seem like it's taking a lot longer than I thought it would. They said that all the parts, like anything they had to get for the home, had to come from Memphis where the homes are actually built so it took a couple of weeks.

Michael, we're pleased to hear that you are happy with how your home buying experience went and that you enjoyed working with Matt. We're going to follow up and check to see that the issues you mentioned have been taken care of. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback!

Anytime I had a problem or the need to get information, I could talk to the people at Clayton Homes. The individual I was dealing with was out for a day and the next person gladly drew out a way to help me. With all the obstacles we had, it took them nine months to get everything settled. Things were done trying to get the title of the house signed over and making sure the land was straight. I hired an attorney to do it and he wasn’t doing it. So I ended up firing him and Clayton introduced me to their attorney who took care of everything.
My wife loves the interior look and had a port built in the front. She would call and tell me when something was wrong and I would call Clayton to notify them. Then they would send someone out to take care of it. At first, we were having problems with the pull-out drawers by the refrigerator. Two of them had fallen off the bracket. They came out about three times but it has a flared-up set. Other than that, the quality's very good and I'm very pleased with it. I could also see an amazing difference with the energy savings. And the people there seemed to be very helpful and wanted to see me get the home that I was looking for.

I had a couple of people that mentioned Clayton Homes and say how they have pretty decent homes, and so was the pricing. The home buying process was really easy. Clayton Homes helped me out a whole lot. Jay started off and he's the one that did all my paperwork. Candice was very friendly. I was expecting them to be like, “We can't do anything any further” because I couldn’t afford the first one that we picked out, but Candice was like, “Let me go and find something that probably could fit your price range.” She was good about it and not just giving up on me. We changed it up probably about three or four times. She was facing with me on making my decision and would call me back and check on me. She communicated pretty well.
I got a misunderstanding of something that I didn’t really know on my end though, with electricity and stuff I was supposed to take before they bring the house out. I thought maybe they would give me a heads up because it was my first time on buying. But right now, I'm getting some stuff repaired on the house. Candice told me to walk around and see what I needed to be done that wasn’t right or needed to be fixed. She called me and let me know that they were working on getting somebody to get those done. I'd definitely recommend Clayton Homes and say they were very helpful, friendly and they did pretty much everything in a timely manner.

Paid extra to upgrade my shower to a fiberglass stall with a seat so I can sit in the shower, I'm 70 and it's a feature I wanted. The shower came and the seat is located under the shower head, yes under it. I had to buy a shower stool to be able sit in my shower the way I wanted to and now it's crowded with the useless seat that is molded into the stall. I have complained and sent pictures but the only response I have been given is that it's not going to be changed because it wasn't specified that the shower head be on the opposite side of the seat, but why would common logic and sense not prevail when they installed the shower stall with a seat, they screwed up and won't make it right.

We ordered a house from Clayton Homes which was brought it in a timely manner. Their home consultant was very friendly. He was pretty much available to answer any questions I had and made suggestions. He communicated very well and sounded very knowledgeable as well. We visited him quite often and did emails, texts and phone calls. He took care of everything we needed.
Then the guy who came and evaluated the home found a lot of stuff that I didn’t even see and didn't consider needed to be fixed which I thought was pretty good. He looked and said, “No, you can't let that go.” He knew what to look for and fixed things. Clayton also had one guy come who put the air conditioner in front of our waterspout but they sent him back immediately and had him fix it. They needed to ask lots of questions and make lots of lists like the things that had to be fixed. They took care of things and I had a good experience with them. They were helpful and honest, because if they weren't, I wouldn't even have bought a house from them.

We’ve been seeing Clayton Homes for years. We checked out the mobile homes and we fell in love with them. We just love the way they were built, their style and how they do them now. But the paperwork for the place that we were getting money from took them forever. There was a lot of red tape at that finance company they use. But I understand it was a government thing so it takes longer.
The people from Clayton Homes were wonderful. Cathy and Lora were really good. Anytime I need anything they’re always there to answer my question real quickly and get somebody on the ball. The weather slowed the construction down but as far as them doing stuff they were quick and I enjoyed it. It was fun watching them build it in steps too. We would watch them, talk to them, and joke around with them. They were real friendly. We keep walking in here and we just can’t believe that we got a new place and how beautiful it is. Everything is great. I work at a hospital so I was telling one of the nurses there if they were looking for a place to go to Clayton.

That's so wonderful, Gary! Thank you so much for taking the time to share the story of your home buying experience with us! We applied to Clayton Home and got approved. The associate who we worked with was really helpful. They were with us every step of the way, always kept us up-to-date. We wanted to go and look for land and they kept pushing for the land that we were actually getting so it could be set up. The timeframe we were given was about four to six months. And with them calling and pushing, helping us out, they sped it up and it was on the lot within two months. As far as moving in, they were on top of that too, calling the electric and the utility companies, and they got us in pretty good and they got us in fast. We've had a few small detailed issues with the home and the ground guy came and had been on top of everything. They fixed everything and they always leave our home the way that it should have been made, like the moldings or stuff that come loose that we didn’t notice through the walkthrough. They’ve excelled in keeping us happy.
They called or emailed when we couldn’t get to our phone, as per request and they followed through on that. We did a down payment and when that down payment was doing, they worked with us on little bit payment plans so we could take care of our other issues first. So, they culminated to what we needed to do and how we needed to do it at that certain time. They were always in communication. Buy at Clayton because the customer service has passed our expectations. All the way from applying, all the way to closing, they were in contact with us. And if we couldn’t get a hold of either of the utility companies they committed to helping us by getting a hold of them for us because we were looking to pushing to move earlier. The customer service is top quality, and the home is great.

Clayton Homes' team was really nice and I really liked them. They were good people and they bent over backwards to satisfy us on anything. I’m intelligent about mobile homes, and when I would ask one of them, Sheryl, anything, she knew the answer. She did really well. We got a good mobile home and we've been in it since May of last year. It’s a decent little mobile home for the price. It was really a good deal. It has two 16 by 16 bedrooms, a little front porch that they put on it, and it's totally electric but energy efficient. It had a few little issues, but they took care of everything. I’m happy with it.
The application process went fine. It took a good two weeks before we got in our home from signing the application. We were mainly waiting for the plumbers and electricians. The construction up here is booming and these people are backlogged. So it wasn’t their fault. They had a trailer moved out here just after I got everything signed and ready to go. And, they’ve done a good job. I'd tell my friends to check Clayton Homes out.

It was over a year but when we were finally ready to start it went very quickly. We worked with Chris and he answered all our questions. He was very helpful and anything that we needed to know if he couldn’t answer it right away, he would get the answer for us immediately. He’s a great salesperson. We really enjoyed working with him and we think of him as a friend now. The home however wasn’t as high quality as some of the other ones that we were looking at but we were okay with it because it was a better price. They also put in a very large shower in the master bathroom that we had asked for. I was very satisfied. They were very helpful and knowledgeable, and I would highly recommend them.

Also, the consultant was awesome. Any questions I had, he answered. However, when the ground froze, my skirting board got really bad. The home consultant has been a lot of help walking us through what the house is going to be like and helping us getting the layout for the purchase and all the paperwork, and setting up the appointments. She was very knowledgeable. But the process was a little lengthy -- being in the VA with everybody getting all their I’s dotted and T's crossed. We are past our six-month trial period and we’ve got enough repairs that I’m waiting for them to get back with me to have it done. When the house settles you get all these nice cracks in the foundation, above the windows and the doors. I’m waiting on them to get back with me to schedule to have somebody to come in and look at it.

The buying process at Clayton Homes was so easy. I had never bought a house before in my life, so they explained everything to me, what was going to have to be done, what I needed to do and what they needed to do. I had to get the down payment up and then I had to have the foundation for them to bring the house in. They called and said everything looked great, and I was approved for the house I wanted. If I had a question and they didn’t know the answer, they’d go find the answer for me, which was great. It amazed me how easy it was.
There were a few things that me and my brother-in-law changed in the home. It didn’t have any ceiling fans, so we went and bought ceiling fans to put in it. There's also a great, big cupboard next to the sink with no shelf in it, so we put shelves in them. Also, I’ve been bugging Clayton about the vent for my back bedroom. Nothing comes out of it. They keep telling me they’re going to send somebody out to fix it, but nobody's been out to fix it. Other than that, I had a great experience with them.

Clayton Homes' buying process was very easy. I went to Clayton, looked at their homes and I just thought that it's what I wanted. I went there on the 28th of February, we went to the buyer's office and signed the papers. I paid cash for it and they had it for me in about five weeks. However, the guys that came out at that time were supposed to put in the septic tank. I had to go to the health department to pick up the septic tank after the guys had done their part. However, that department kept saying they didn’t have it. They were slow about putting things together. I called Clayton and told them something was wrong. In fact, a lot of people already know that I had trouble and Clayton Homes found out that the problem was on their end and they took care of it. They changed all the guys in that department and I've had a better experience since. So, I would recommend someone else to buy from Clayton Homes.

Sometimes when I'm shopping, I feel as if I'm being hounded or being pushed into what we wanted. We were working under a time constraint and Clayton Homes met those. We had an idea as to what we wanted. We were shown three different styles of homes and selected the one that we wanted and everything went so smoothly, not only in the office but also having the house delivered. Everybody from Clayton Homes were more than helpful and willing to listen and do what we asked. Their communication was wonderful. When we asked questions, they clearly answered and if we had an additional question, they had information that sometimes we wouldn’t even think of and they would just offer the information to make us feel much more comfortable about the entire process.
After the house was delivered and set up, we moved in and there were two times that a helper had to come out because we had creaks on the floor which they said was natural and normal. But they came out and fixed them. But what I appreciated the most was that even though Clayton Homes has a different series of large homes versus smaller homes, they didn’t force me into going to the high-end if it wasn't what I desired. It was a great experience with them and we were very pleased with everything. Being in our 60’s, with the fact that we didn’t want to take a year out of our lives to build a home before we could get into it, then this is definitely the way to go. From the time we got our property to the time the house was put on the property was three months. We have recommend them to our friends.

Everything was great till we're doing our closing, rescheduled twice then called us the morning before Thanksgiving Day to close. We did the walk through. Noted everything that needed fixed. We even put a deposit on a furniture and decor package we were told could be duplicated which was the first of many lies to come. Once delivered they scratched and damaged front window. I sent all pics of that damage as well as other issues. Got told by manager they would be fixed. We then waited 2 weeks for installation and meter pole to be done. Made a few calls to the office and we're made to feel like we were bothering them. Then two days before county inspection our personal contractor informed us the pipes that were supposed to be ran from under the mobile home at least 20ft out were never done. We had to pay our contractor out of pocket $550 to do them.
When we contacted Clayton we were told she would look into it, we're still waiting for a call 3 weeks later. We were told the contractor would be by to fix everything that was wrong. That never happened either. We were also told we would be credited for the decor mishap, didn't happen either. Our furniture we were promised were still waiting on that was supposed to be ordered before Christmas. I could go on and on but I'd be here for hours. I have everything documented from pics, texts and phone calls. We're now in a home we hate, paying a mortgage we were lied to about. I recommend 2 people and got told I'll be waiting a while for my referral check. I sent the second person elsewhere as the first person I referred is experiencing the same issues as us. This is a nightmare I'd give anything to go backwards but we were unfortunately homeless and had no choice but to move in.

A few years ago, I went to Clayton and met an absolutely amazing woman by the name of April. She helped me try to get a home, and my experience with her was so wonderful that two years after that, she kept in touch with me, checking on me to see how everything was. A few years later, I went up there a second time, finally had my credit in line and money for a down payment. She said she had two that I needed to look at. The first one was a little too small for what we needed, but the second one she picked out was absolutely perfect. I was absolutely satisfied with her and I couldn't have asked for more.
However, I wasn't thrilled with the Clayton manufacturer. It seemed that they skipped a lot of corners and left everything unfinished. One of the cool things that we liked about the house was the entertainment center that had one of those little wire holes in it, and they didn't even cut the hole out for that. They didn't look like they were proud to put out what they put out, and it ticked me off that I'm paying so much money for that.
But everybody at Clayton has been more than helpful. The service tech guy has come out numerous times trying to fix things here and there. April went way above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that we were satisfied. We got everything that we needed and she helped us out. There was a little bit added on to the loan to get us a washer and dryer 'cause we could not get one. She had it delivered and installed, which was phenomenal. I'm the person who normally does all the work around the house, so for her to be able to do that and alleviate that off of me was amazing. I have already recommended Clayton Homes to everybody that I come in contact with.

And even once we settled in, if I had an issue with something, I would call up there and they would send somebody right over and have it fixed. The first time we went over at Clayton Homes to buy the mobile home, there was a man there who didn't seem to be all that nice, but he did deal with us - he looked at us like we didn't have the money or couldn't afford it. They called us back and told us that the mobile home that my son had originally picked out was really not for sale, but they would give him a deal on another mobile home. So, he went out there and got that one. The lady we dealt with was very nice. I also always thought that when you bought a mobile home, the set up and delivery come at the price of the mobile home, but my son had to pay separate so some more money had to come out and he paid cash for the home.
So when they got the home delivered, the people who delivered tore the concrete up out there, but they did not come back to fix it. We went to Clayton Homes and told them about it. My son also had some issues with the home, but he's not had a lot of time to deal with it because his wife has been in and out of the hospital. The home also got some kind of an electrical issue going on with it, and the drainage line that comes down to the water is also torn up.
Right now, they're staying back here at my house until we can figure out how to get water back out there at their house because of that mess up under their trailer. They took the axles out from under the trailer and took them with them too. They should leave the axles on the trailer in case we decide to move again. That comes with the trailer. The fan on his refrigerator is also not working as it has probably bounced across the floor when they were doing all that moving. In order for them to have a refrigerator to work, they got a house fan set-up behind it on the floor so it can blow on it to help it keep cool down. All this is not right considering he paid a lot of money for that home. I would not recommend anybody else to go there and buy a home.

We set an arrangement with Clayton Homes and asked them to give us a copy of the agenda and requirements for the home. They emailed that to me and we brought down all the documents that I needed. They ran through our names and gave us information of how much we need to put down for down payment which we did on that same day. It took three weeks until they give us a final answer. And then, they showed us the home that we were into. They had a couple of houses there in the lot and they let us choose which one we wanted.
The sales reps were generous and kept in contact with us. In fact, until now, the person who sold the house to us still calls and texts us to make sure we're still happy with what we've got. Every time we called him, he would answer. If he was busy, he would leave a message and give us a call back. All the questions that we asked him, he always gave us a thorough answer. And if he wasn't sure, he would double-check and give us a call back. He also told us about our warranty when expired so he's pretty good.
They were waiting on us for delivery because where we reside at, we had to get the land leveled out. But the crew came up pretty quick as well. The person that sold the house to us told them that we needed a few basic steps and he sent them out within a week. The crew spent a couple of days there and they finished it out for us. We've been living in it for a little bit more than six months already and everything's good. Our new home is very nice and spacious. My kids love it and we enjoy it.

I applied for a mobile home through Catholic Charities, and they set me up with Clayton Homes. I am 100% pleased with their choice and I could not have chosen better. The person who did the sale was Justin and I'm so impressed with him. He answered all my questions and if I called him or texted him, he answered immediately. One time he was obviously busy with customers and it took two hours for him to get back to me. I was concerned because I thought he was on vacation, but he did call me and we had a little chuckle about it. That's how good the service is.
I got a form from the Boulder County Assessor's office that I was supposed to fill these things out about my new home, 'cause we're trying to evaluate my property taxes. I didn't know how much any of these things costs or what was included in the price of the mobile home. So, I called Justin and he said he printed out the form from the Boulder County Assessor's office. We went through it and he gave me every answer on this form.
Stacy, who schedules work repairs, gets back to me immediately as well, and she is absolutely wonderful. Plus Victor and Manuel, the workmen who came, are so thorough in their work. There were little things that I wanted fixed, and both of them were excellent. They were perfectionists, and you could tell by the way they were working. They really take pride in their work and they really get things right. What's most important is that when Stacy says Victor or Manuel will be here at 9:00, they're here at 9:00. When people from Clayton Homes say they're going to come out, if they're not five minutes early, I'm shocked. Every time they said they would be out at whatever time, they're there.
The rep who went over the place with me before I moved in was also very thorough. He must have spent two to three hours with me, showing me everything. We got together at 5:00 PM because I was at the hotel and I couldn't get here until he came and picked me up. He didn't leave the house until 7:30 in the evening, and he wouldn't leave until I had arrived. He was so nice. My neighbor is in the process of getting a home through the same program that I went through, only they picked another mobile home dealer. And I know for a fact that their company is not as on top of things. Everybody at Clayton Homes has been wonderful.

I got in contact with Clayton's rep online and then he showed us all the options they had. We settled on one and he helped us through the paperwork and everything else. He is a very, very nice guy, very helpful and answered all our questions. He was everything we needed and I was very happy. They were knowledgeable all throughout the process. The process was very quick like less than three weeks from the time I first talked to the rep until they had it on my land. We did a cash deal and he told us that it went quicker than usual because of that. If there's financing involved, it takes longer. It was an easy and great experience.

I had gone out to the Clayton Homes in Bedford and I found the trailer that I really like. I was going to do that as a modular home instead of a trailer home and I was very excited. I told this to a customer and then she told me about the Clayton Home in Roanoke. That’s where she had gotten her trailer and I went out there to take a look. I met Rob there and he was so personable and so welcoming. I walked around and looked at the trailers and I liked them, but I didn’t like them as much as the one that I saw in Bedford.
So I settled everything in process to buy the one in Bedford and then they told me how much my mortgage payment would be in a month. I’m 64 years old, and I did not want a thousand-dollar plus mortgage payment. I panicked and I left. And then my husband came up and suggested that we go back to the one in Roanoke and look again. So we did that and saw a couple that we like. I eventually bought the one that I have now, and it's $600 a month. Even if I’m not working and I’m living on Social Security, I’ll be able to make that payment and I saw the lot and I’m very comfortable in that home. I like it very much.
I had a little bit of trouble when I found something wrong and they didn't respond right away sometimes. But when they do respond, they were very good. Also, Rob was always quick on the phone and I really like him. I was very satisfied.

One of the great things about Clayton is you do have the ability to shop around and find the best deal for you and your family. Thank you for taking the time to share with us your experience.

Bought a home with cash in July 2017 after our home burned to the ground. Clayton couldn't get dirt delivered then couldn't get concrete poured. Home was damaged and remains so six months later. Missing doors. Missing outside water spigots. No deed. No title. No return calls and no customer service. Reached out to the regional manager, Eddie **, and that was a further aggravation and waste of time. Incompetent outlet and incompetent, rude employees at Lafayette. I've told a couple of people about them.

I went down to Clayton Homes in Waynesville and filled a loan application for the loan amount that it was going to take buy a piece of property and set up the house. The application process was good and took about six months. The representatives were very professional, courteous and did a lot, above and beyond probably what their normal duty is for me that helped me in getting my home. They gave me a lot of information on what to expect and on the grading on the property. Also, the septic system was set up for a pump system originally and it was done previous. But the guy who came out said that they can get around not doing a pump system and just move the house. He was very knowledgeable about doing stuff like that.
I love the home and it's a great home. The only issue I've had was with the heat pump, but they're fixing now. When they first came out and installed it, the guy didn't have one of the lines soldered good enough so it leaked the freon out. That caused the pump to burn up. They put another pump in it but for some reason or another, the compressor has gone out of its rails so they're fixing to put the third one in it. Other than that, it has been a very good experience and I would highly recommend Clayton Homes.

I wanted the mobile home moved as soon as possible and Clayton Homes accommodated me. But we had rain and they couldn't move it right then. The salesman that I spoke with was willing to work with me and I was very pleased. Once the home was moved, he came and told me that I may find some things that would need fixing as time goes by and I should just make a note and let him know. So I contacted him when the shower didn't work and the girl at the head office scheduled the service. Then their guy came out and found out that they had to order another piece.
The week after I moved in, I had a multi breaker that kept tripping, so they sent their electrician out. It turned out that there were several rooms that were together for the light. And they had put it on two switches. So when you turn it on, it would keep both switches off. It was just some wiring problems from the manufacturer, but the electrician fixed it. I also found a couple of other little things and I just shoot the salesman a text message and he gets me in touch with the lady at the head office. And they come up right away and fix the problem. The service people respond in a timely manner and when they say they're going to be here, they're going to be here. They're very professional as well when they come out.
I bought the home that was on the lot and I moved in on January 31, 2017. The whole process took about three weeks, and it was done in a timely manner. I also looked at a mobile home from another place and one of its big sales point for me was it had a really big pantry. I told this to the Clayton Homes salesman and he said he showed me the pantry but when I opened it, there was no shelf. He told me that he'll put some shelves in it, which he did. And I'm very pleased with it. He was also willing to work around the price to make sure that we were happy. It's a beautiful home and I get a lot of compliments on it. So I'm happy.

But the guy who took over after Jerry left did fabulous. He was very professional and courteous. He did a very good job taking care of everything. He also did very good in answering all my questions and getting everything done. The home buying process was very pleasant and easy going. I was a first time home buyer so I didn’t know anything. The receptionist where I work lives down the street from the showroom, and she had mentioned them. So, since it was not too far out of my way, I stopped on my way home to look. I went with Clayton out of convenience in where we could go see them, and the ability to not just sell a home but get a set-up taken care as well. The folks were really nice, as well as the the houses. Their prices were competitive, and they were able to customize for us -- we needed it to be handicap accessible with wide doorways, grab bars and tall toilets. Since my dad absolutely hates vinyl, the outside was upgraded to look like wood planks although it is made of synthetic material. As we paid in cash, it cut down on the paperwork, too.
The rep was really nice too, although he was not good with the follow-up like turning in paperwork. We had originally ordered a brick edging around it, and it turned out they couldn't put it in. It took him a couple of weeks to manage to turn the paperwork in to get a refund for us for that in order for us to get another material to put around the base. Getting the home up and running was a nightmare, but it was not Clayton Home's fault, or not much anyway.
When I first went in, I told them I lived in Citronelle city, so they looked it up and said we were good. However, I should have called the city hall to find out for sure if our area was zoned. And I'm out in the middle of the country and lots of people have module homes out here, and it turned out I wasn't zoned for it, and getting a variance from the city council to get the home installed took a couple of months and it was just a real pain. I just took their word for it that we were zoned for modular homes, but I shouldn't have because apparently somewhere in the paperwork it does say that you're accountable for making sure you've got the right zoning.
Nevertheless, I'd recommend them. It is an impressive house and they really bent over backward when they couldn't get the sighting on the particular house my dad had picked out and got another company to build it to specifications for us. They are well-built, good-looking homes. If we had chosen to go onto a foundation, you would not know that this place was a modular home. But, since they advertise, "Hey we can do the whole thing, we can install it, we can put in the electricity", I would expect them to be a little bit more accurate on whether or not you can actually have a home there.

Clayton Homes is very good. We were helping my son get this place for him. And we went through a couple of different lots. One was in Anderson, and another one was in Easley. In both of these places, the houses were good. When they saw the one that they really liked, we made the deal. The people were terrific, very helpful, and they called us making sure we were happy with everything. We also got a five-year warranty on the place. When we were introduced to the people who were going to put the house on the lot, they took us step by step. Everything was right out in the open, and any little things that we wanted to look into, they took care of it right away. The place that we looked at was just exactly what they wanted.
It took three months to complete the process because I owned the property. It is an eight acres lot, and I was giving my son four with this place on. So, a lot of that time was taken up dealing with Greenville downtown with all of the permits, which had nothing to do with Clayton. But they took care of all the other permits for the building going on the property. They gave us time frames, and they stuck to it. They also called us before they came. I’m impressed with the houses, how they’re built, and the way they’re set up. It’s a nice economical way for people just starting out to get a home.

Clayton Homes was over in Ripley and when I was looking for a used home, they happened to have one. I bought it outright and I wrote the check for it the same day. And then, it was about three weeks before I got somebody to move it from West Virginia to Ohio. My consultant was a very nice lady. I bought all the skirting to her, and she helped me find somebody to set it up and somebody to do the initial hook up underneath and all the plumbing. I bought the home as it is. It was not in a really good condition but it looks new now after about three months going through and fixing up all the things that were destroyed in it.
The front door had to be completely replaced because they had tried to open it and busted the jam out. And every door had two holes in it. The home had been smoked in heavily so we had to get all the carpet. And then, we took all the seam strip off of the rack and taped those. So, it looks more like a house inside than a mobile home. Before I installed the carpet and all the appliances, I put a walk-in shower and the master bath. And then, I did our roof over with a 40-foot porch and a parking space on the back and a 16 by 15 porch on the front with a covered parking space. My son and I did the work.
If I had to do it all over again, I probably would have bought a home in a little better shape than the one I got. But although it’s only seven years old, it lived a rough life. And there was a leak at the front door that runs down inside the wall. And I understand that it is a problem with some Clayton homes. They don’t have a good enough overhang or drip trailer. Still, I'd recommend Clayton Homes. They didn’t throw anything, and they let me know only what I was getting.

We had never really gone through a home buying type process. During the part where we decided on what home we wanted, there was a brief period there. We popped in several times and anytime we did, Darren gave us the keys and told us to go look at what we wanted to and to ask him if we had questions. He also walked us through quite a few things like what was covered under warranty and what wasn't as well as the process of what they were going to do when they would come out and set it up. We needed to have ready the documents that we needed to bring in and certain things. Any question that we had, I would just text Darren and he would call me back within 24 hours.
We got our home delivered towards the end of April so it took almost four and half months for the whole process, from start to finish. So far, the home is standing. We're in North East Texas and it's withstanding the rain and the winds and hasn't blown away. We just had a few little home repairs that are kind of standard but no major things. We have a five-year warranty and if it's the plumbing or something that needs to be replaced, I would just call the service manager Ed and he would have somebody out within a few days. It's been a great experience.

I was about to purchase a Double wide home from Clayton Homes in Benton, KY. I was unable to get financing through them so I let them know I was trying to get financing through a bank but it would take a little while. At the same time, my best friend had purchased a home through them and was waiting for delivery. Her home finally arrived in the middle of Oct. 2017. When they went to "set" the home (a single wide), they dropped it (this is what I was told so I went out to look for myself). Joists were completely busted, the roofline wasn't together and it looks like it twisted because as you look down the front of the home, it looks like a roller coaster. Because of this, I decided to hold off on my purchase. I wanted to see how this company would handle this situation as I was going to have them remove my old home of 32 years (double wide 3 bedroom) and replace it with a new one (double wide 4 bedroom which was 12ft longer and 6ft wider).
TO DATE: Dec. 27, 2017, she has called many times with no callbacks. They came out and "fixed" 1 joist under her bathroom floor and it looks like he used a 2ft piece of scrap wood he found in the back of his truck to fix it. In her bedroom, the floor is like walking up and down a hill to get to the bathroom. The bathroom she paid for was to have a garden tub with separate shower and it was a cheap small tub and shower. The wall pieces were pulled apart from the seams (I'm thinking it's because of the drop and twist). Around the outlets they cut them too big so there is open space on one side of her outlets and those are all around the house. She has taken over 100 pictures with NO RESPONSE resolution from Bill, the owner. She's called their corporate office several times, sent them pictures and they keep telling her they would get someone out there with no response back.
I feel SO SORRY for her as she is a single mom that's a Veteran! She's just trying to make a good home for her 3yr old daughter and this is the way this company treats her. I have since got my loan, I WILL NOT be purchasing from this company nor would I send anyone else to purchase from this company. I am very upset on the way Clayton Homes has handled this situation. It's funny because when I was in looking for me a home, Stewart, the salesman told me that my friend was going to be in her home by Christmas. The home is sitting there but it's not safe to have her daughter in it. She's already having to make payments on the home but can't move in.
If I could have given a "NO STAR" I would have done it for this company and especially the Benton Sales office. This is sad that a company would do this to a normal customer and to top it off a U.S. Vet!!! Shame on you Clayton Homes, Bill and Stewart at the Benton, KY office!!! PS. I understand this is NOT my house but she is my best friend and I WAS going to purchase one from them. My house is 32 yrs old and looks in better shape than this "NEW" home! Attached are a few pictures we but there are many more if you want to see them. They have been sent to Clayton's Benton Office and also to the Corporate office. If you want to contact her, please message me and I'll give you her name and number. BUT this is my experience also as I have been watching it to know if I should buy my home through them.

She called me everyday and notified me of what was happening next. Signing the papers lasted 30 minutes and it was quick and easy. And I got a really good deal. I was able to customize the color of the mobile home outside, and I like it. It was a really good experience and I've recommended Clayton Homes a few times.

The home buying process for us at Clayton went well. We went to the lot, walked around a little bit, went in and talked with the lady who had a very pleasant attitude. The house on the lot was beautiful and put together well. But when we received ours, I am not satisfied with it at all. I like the kitchen but there are a lot of issues with the home itself. There’s a crack in the basement where we can fit a paper between and it’ll come out through the bedroom. There’s also light that shines from the kitchen into my bedroom. The guys who put the home gave it the best they could but it’s a manufacturer issue so I’m trying to reach somebody about that. It had also been holidays so I wasn’t able to get in touch and talk with the lady and I haven’t heard from her yet.

Clayton Homes was very good to us and we were very pleased with our experience. They tried to keep us in a timely manner. They always wanted to make sure we were happy, and if we were not, they would try to compensate or make sure that everything was good. Michael was our sales rep and he was very good to work with. He bent over backwards for us. Anytime that I needed any help with anything, he was there. If he didn't have the answer, he found out the answer and called me back. We needed a new house. We went to the one in Alexandria, Louisiana. And it didn't have anything that was really in our price range. So, then we went to Lake Charles and it was a lot better. We found one that we like and we can get financed through a bank in Bayou Louisiana. We're happy with our new home so far. We've had a couple of things that we had to call about, but the quality of our home is good.

We had looked at several different stocks and went with Clayton Homes because they were the cheapest, and that lured as in. And it was the salesmanship and the quality of the home that sold us. Teresa was our consultant and she was very informative, while George, the repairman that comes out here, seems like he talks a lot. We love our home, but there’s a few issues. I understand that we’re going to have that with a new home, most especially a trailer, but overall we’re still very happy with it and we have recommended Clayton to other people.

Clayton Homes has been very good. My salesperson, Blanca, was excellent, and I love dealing with her. And if there was a problem and somebody has given me a hard time, she went right to the source of the thing and it was taken care of. I also like the other two guys who were there. I picked out my home in Arizona, put down the deposit, and then, I went back home to New York. I was in a townhouse and I finished the lease agreement on it, and then I sold everything I owned. I didn't want to pay over $3,000 to have old furniture transported out. And Clayton Homes had a sale going on at the time I bought my home and they gave me a deal to a furniture store.
I went through FHA and it was a nightmare going to them. I had to pay off $28,000 in credit card which was fine, but then after I paid them, FHA called and told me that I had to close each and every credit card that I have had for 25 years. I had a good credit rating, and I was so upset but I did because I thought already halfway into it. Then my down payment which was supposed to be $4,000 turned out to be $16,000 because they said they made a mistake. Everything was told at the last minute when I was halfway through it. And it took FHA forever to be approved. I left New York and came out to Arizona to live in a mobile home because we thought it would be a quick close. But we didn't close until the end of April and then I was in my new house in May.
Once everything got approved, Clayton sent a contractor who went right out here and did everything that they were supposed to. Everything went along and the house went in fine. I did an inspection of the house several times because it is going to be my home for my life. I love my Clayton home but there are a lot of things like the veneer on the kitchen cabinet that wears so fast even though I polish them every day and I don't get them wet. Also, I had to call them back twice for the trimming at the bottom of my floor. It had a space and I didn't want it so they came back then. And when I found a crack in the ceiling in one bathroom, the contractor said they will only be sent out one time so I told him I would call Clayton. My sales person took care of me on that. Also, everything that I've called on, Clayton had put it down and they did not give me a hard time and whatever they think was right, they've taken care of it.
My sister and her husband recently came out from New York. And my sister was having a quick look for a piece of property and she asked me to help her because she is going to do a Clayton, too. I introduced her to Blanca and we looked at a few places. I've seen some beautiful places and ten years from now, I'm going to be back in with Clayton. I'm going to be upgrading because I want all wooden cabinets in my kitchen.

Yvonne, thank you so much for taking the time to share your home buying experience. We're sorry to hear about the delays with FHA, but are thrilled to hear how pleased you are with Blanca. We will be sure to pass along your feedback to her team! Congratulations on your new home!

I went in there one day just to look around. The lady gave me keys and told me to look at the trailers, so I did. When I went back in, I talked to Matt and he asked me to fill out an application just so they'd know if I'd get one or not. He called me back a few days later and said everything went good. He took care of just about everything there was been. He explained everything very well so that I knew what was going on. Our experience with Clayton Homes has been absolutely wonderful. We are so pleased. We were much more pleased with what they have available than some of the other people that have mobile homes. The one we got was 100 times better than what we saw when we were looking. The only comment that we would have would be maybe if the manufacturers pay a little bit more attention to some of the details. We made our list of the things that needed attention and the people that worked with us and helped us came out and took care of it.
My daughter bought a mobile home from them 10 years ago. She told us that we needed to go there first and check it out, and we did. And then we went across the street, down the highway, a few other places, but I was so impressed with the model that we got from Clayton. It seemed so wide for a single. The cabinets are very, very pretty. The wood on those, and the built-in entertainment center where you put the TV. I also like the floors. The carpet’s a little cheap, but I understand. I didn’t get any extra stuff; it’s just me and my roommate. We’re not hard on anything. I’ve already had several people that came and were just so pleased with the layout.

Our parents went to deal with Clayton Homes a long time ago, so my wife and I just went with them too. They came and everything is the way that I wanted it. Everything that I thought of doing, they already thought of and did it. JP, the home consultant, was great with any concerns. I sat there and gave him a call and he had somebody coming out to fix it the following day. We started working with them last September and if it wasn't for the township, we would've been in by the end of December or early January. But with the township and everything, we didn't move in until the end of April or beginning of May.
In the old house, we went through two tanks of fuel in one year. So far, when I had the propane tank put in when we moved in, it was like 150 gallons, and I just got it filled up here like three weeks ago. I love the quality. My buddy and his wife are also looking for a house. I've told him I still had JP's card and handed it to him. I said, "Here you go, this is the only guy you need to talk to. I had a horrible home-buying process with Clayton Homes. Everything went wrong. To begin, there was delay after delay on the set-up and delivery, and the work being done at the house was late for weeks. At the end of the day, they just did the numbers the way they wanted and more than what they originally had set. They gave me an explanation but the moment I asked for actual receipts, they didn’t give me anything, so, I don’t even know if that was true. I talked to them about it but they were not interested. That’s how Shawn, the manager, and their company is. He doesn’t care about clients, he just cares about the money. I already closed and paid them because I had to move out of my apartment and there's nothing I could do but to go with their final number. It wasn’t pleasant at all.
However, the sales guy was a great guy. He tried helping me as much as he can and always tried to do things better. But at the end of the day he wasn’t the one overseeing the project, though he was amazing with it.

A friend of ours who used to work with Clayton Homes said that they were the first people that he would prefer to go to if he had to buy a house himself. We had some local competition, but after reading some reviews we decided to go with Clayton. The process was pretty easy. It didn't take long at all. If we went down one weekend, looked at everything and the next weekend we started signing contracts.
The only thing I wish I could have done would be to see our particular home or at least something close enough to it before actually buying it. But we saw the homes that they have on the lots, there were certain features that we knew were going to be on ours, so we could kind of compare that way. Other than that, I know they can't stock every single home that is available so I can understand that.
We customized completely. They actually did a couple of things that they said they've never done before, which was cool. So it worked out well. They did everything they were supposed to do, if not more. It was primarily on us to make up our minds. They also called us routinely, it seemed like to see how things are going. They were very responsive as well. They were great. Interacting with the consultant was perfect. Everything went smoothly. You get a lot for what you pay. Clayton is well-worth the cost. I had trouble figuring out how in the world they make money on them because at the cost that we got it at and for the amount of work and effort and time that went into it, it's got to be pretty tight on profit. I'm very impressed.

We are setting the house up for winter. We've been there for a little time and there were some things wrong like water leaks. Most of the things have been fixed by Clayton Homes to date and the last thing they have to come back to is about one tub not having hot water. We didn’t notice it until we were there last time but we weren’t long enough for them to set up to come out and they’re not going to do it until we get back.
Overall, the house is good. We realize that we bought a row end and didn’t buy the higher grade but we're a little bit disappointed in the seam. I haven’t brought it up to them but we see nails in the carpet. We walk on them and we can see them. In the master bedroom, it seems wrong that from the wall, we see staples where the carpet is. If they were just a piece of trim, it would have covered it up but they say there’s no trim where carpet meets wall. So we’ll end up changing it. But the house is worth the price. We looked at some higher-end home and the value is there. You can get what you pay for.

And though the process never went as fast as we wanted to because there was a lot of paperwork, they have been wonderful ever since. I dealt with Kim and she was amazing. She was very knowledgeable about what paperwork we needed.
The home buying process was kind of difficult but mostly not because of Clayton. It was because of the financial people's slight hiccups. It had to have paperwork completely pushed to a beginning stage. The process took us about a little over a year. We were ready to purchase when we first walked in there and I went in through a Federal loan. That was what mostly took the biggest part of the time of getting that pushed through.
But I had a pretty good deal. Clayton and I have very similar taste, so it worked out really well. When we moved in, we had two very minor things. We called them and the next day each time, the issue was immediately fixed. The quality of our home is amazing. Our family has completely moved into it and we’re really comfortable with it. The salesperson immediately made us feel like we've been lifelong friends. He's the reason we purchased from Clayton Homes. We spent $200,000 before we knew it. The purchasing process went very quickly. It was less time to buy this house than it normally takes to buy a car. The salesperson knew what he was doing.
We love our home. My husband was completely against a modular mobile home and I was up for it. But then when we found that to have stick-built house built would probably double our cost of buying a manufactured home, my husband said that even though he was against it, he's very glad we did what we did. We were also able to negotiate a better price for buying the model home on the lot and we got it faster.
I am almost 100% satisfied. There were a couple of little issues like we've noticed around the kitchen island, the little trim that they have going on, are popping off if you barely touch them. My husband said, “Oh, it's just a glue thing. We'll just glue them back on.” Also, in the bathroom where they put the holder for the toilet paper, you have reach back a little bit. If you're an over-sized person, you're going to hit it when you're sitting there. We can move it but then I'm stuck with having to repair my wall. We just don’t use it at all. I purchased a freestanding holder because it's just in such an awkward position, you can't get to it. But that to me was the only little quirk about the whole house.

My husband and I are first time home buyers. We purchased a “modular” home from our local Clayton Homes dealer. First red flag was the fact that the price we were quoted when we filled out our application (which is what made us choose this company over others) was not the price submitted to our lender. We saw the higher price when we sat down with the sales worksheet after our approval from our lender was received. When we inquired about this the response from the salesperson was, “I misspoke.” Really?? Shouldn’t we have gotten a phone call about the $20,000 price difference before it was submitted to our lender?! We should have left then. Communication was poor throughout the entire process. We chose a floor plan from a double wide model on site to “upgrade” to modular. Being that this was our first time purchasing a home, and a modular home at that, we were unfamiliar with what we should expect and how things worked.
The roof pitch of our home was never discussed and we thought this was part of the whole “modular package” that we upgraded to. Modular homes have a higher roof pitch than a double wide mobile home and though we have paid so much more to upgrade to modular our home looks like a DOUBLE WIDE TRAILER. Being that we were specifically wanting a modular shouldn’t this have been something that was mentioned initially by the salesperson?! We had to constantly ask for information throughout every step of the process to know what was going on, what steps to take, what was going to happen next, etc. Our lender had to contact US numerous times due to having trouble getting documents and information from this company for the purchase of this home. We started this process at the very end of February 2017 and did not get into our home until October. A process that we were told would take “3 months or so”.
Once our home was delivered and “complete” and we walked inside we were very disappointed. The paint on the walls was splotchy in pretty much every room. Trim around base boards and crown molding looks TERRIBLE. Patched areas where Sheetrock had cracked looked like an inexperienced do-it-yourselfer did it. Caulk is everywhere and not only is it everywhere it’s very messy and bulky and poorly done. Moldings are crooked, baseboards are uneven where they meet at the corners of walls, I have some crooked doors, my floors have paint splatter ALL OVER them. I have had to get on my hands and knees in every single room of my home with a magic eraser, rag, and scraper and scrub and pick paint, grout, and caulk off (in sections because it takes so long). That is not an exaggeration.
My beautiful master tub has paint splatter all over it that still to this day (2 months later) I am still trying to scrape off. There are screws felt under the floor and in a few spots these screws have actually torn through the floor. A whole section of the wood over the “floor seam” wasn’t even nailed down. It was just basically set there. My husband fixed that.
I have been pulling off the caulk the “professionals” put along my baseboards and I’ve been redoing it myself as well as fixing the horrible uneven paint along them. My ceiling is not even painted. Where the seam is where the two halves were connected it was sprayed with texture spray and left. All of my [white] cabinets in every room are A) low quality [They’re not even wood. My plates were causing the shelf to sag so my husband had to add reinforcement] and B) they are all scuffed and marked and nicked. The walls above my cabinets are not even painted, there’s bare sheetrock up there!!!
There are numerous cracks (some gaping) in the grout in my kitchen back splash as well as my bathrooms and around my master tub. We have asked for this to be fixed for months now and NOTHING. Under my cabinets where any sink is the areas of the walls the pipes are going through are just big uneven gaping holes that look like a child installed them.
When we first hooked up our washer my husband ran it to make sure everything was fine and the sink in the laundry room filled with water and didn’t drain. A guy came out that night and got under the house and saw that the water was draining into the belly under the house soaking the insulation!! It all had to be pulled out in that section, left open to dry, and reinsulated once the plumbing mess up was fixed. All of my showers leaked when on (my husband fixed those), water leaks between the sinks and faucets in my bathrooms because they weren’t sealed. I have a light switch that doesn’t work and no one could tell me what it’s for. A contractor came it almost 2 months ago to do a checklist of things that need to be done and NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE SINCE.
I guess the checklist was just for show? We had to replace our locks/doorknobs within the first few weeks of moving in bc the front door lock jammed and broke 3 times, and the back door lock was so poorly installed we couldn’t even lock the deadbolt. It’s like the cheapest of everything was used in this house. I could go on and on. Walking through the home to do a “punch list” you see a lot of things, but moving in and LIVING in the home you see everything you don’t see when you’re just “walking through”. And in our case it’s a lot.
We question if we even have a modular home at this point. It really breaks my heart that we were so excited about our brand new home and we were met with all of these disappointments. Moving into a BRAND NEW HOME shouldn’t come with all of this work. I hate that we were put into a position to regret our decision. I suppose my expectations for Clayton Homes were too high. Knowing everything we know now we would NOT make the same decision.

My wife and I were in the market for a mobile home because our other house had burnt down. We were driving around and stopped by Clayton for designs. I liked the customer representative that I dealt with. They gave us a tour on all of the mobile homes that were available that we were interested in. She told me to go shop around and see something better that I like, but if not, to come back.
The salesman finished the tour. We walked through the mobile home that we purchased. He said if my wife wanted to move around or redid different than what was laid out, that he could have that done. He said he'd be with us from beginning to the end, from the time we purchased it to the time they brought it out and set it up, and made sure everything went according to plan. I was real impressed that he'd even come out once they delivered the mobile home and set it up. Any little thing that was wrong with it, he sent us their repairman out to fix some very minor stuff or a trivial item. The only issue I really had when the trailer really got settled was the back door. It was just a little off a level but it was fixed.
When we went inside the mobile home, my wife fell in love and the only thing really she wanted to change was to take out the carpet in the living room, but after meeting her and discussing, we decided to leave it like it was. She wanted a wooden floor. We love the amenities. It's been everything that I expected. It's well-insulated. It's economical as far as heating. It's also well built. We stayed in it through the little storm and nothing got damaged or got blew off. We're pleased with it.
We went on a Thursday and looked at the mobile home. I told them I'd be back Saturday morning with the money for it. My wife and I drove back up Saturday morning. We've done everything in two days. The only thing that really slowed it down as far as it getting set up was the parking lot. Once I called in and told the salesman I had everything out of the way and everything was situated and settled, he called these last people. They’ve came out with a foundation people. They’ve came out for the dirt and leveled it off and everything one day. Then the next day, they were here with the trailer. I've recommended Clayton Homes already to a couple friends of mine, even my son because he and his wife are in the process trying to find some other place. Some other friends have already bought one from them too.

Anytime I called and she wasn’t available or she was dealing with someone else anybody that I talked to were really friendly and helpful. They made sure that there's a smooth transition and process. I love Ms. Vicky as well. I think she’s their office manager and she answers the phone. We didn’t have any delays or anything that I’d call again. When I have concerns they always send somebody and it was overall a great experience.
I started the process mid April and before the end of April we had done the paperwork and we moved in first part of May and they got everything done quick. With our new home our energy bill is most definitely is lowered. I referred Clayton Homes at least to two people so far. When somebody would talk to me and say, “I love your home. It’s beautiful.” I’d say, “ Oh, look at Clayton Homes."

Karen, the representative at Clayton Homes was very helpful. But, it was difficult to find a home that had everything I wanted. I wanted certain things and Clayton Homes didn’t have one made up like I wanted. We started looking around in October of last year and we kept looking and Karen found something she thought I might like so she sent me down to Birmingham to look at a mobile home that was already set up. So we went down there and we looked at it. It was something we could work with. However, the closet should have been bigger. And also, the flooring in the kitchen has got bubbles in it and when I called, Karen sent somebody who took pictures of it but he said he couldn’t do anything to it. Other than those, Clayton Homes does a good job and they continue to come and fix the problems as they arise.

Clayton Homes' representatives were excellent people to deal with. They were very helpful and if I had any questions, they answered it and any problems, they come and take care of it. We were discussing the issue with the doors which could be because the ground settles and everything gets out of whack, but they’re coming back to take care of it. The only problem was the process was a little slow but it was the rainy season. Other than that, everything is in good shape and I like all the people at Clayton Homes. They're good and friendly people.

The consultant that we worked with was awesome. When I first went to Clayton Homes, I explained to her what I was looking for and she took me in three homes. She was very clear with showing the three homes that had exactly what I had told her we wanted in the homes. So we didn’t waste time looking at something that wasn’t going to be right in dollar value or size. We also went to another copany offering similar services, but we felt we had more choice in our price range with Clayton Homes. And they were built better quality when we looked at them. They kept us informed as the process was going along with actually building the house. The process took close to 60 days. We're ex military and we've owned quite a few home, but Clayton Homes had the easiest process I've ever had.
We got a home that was on their lot. I had all the options that I would have put in that home, and they offered us a good price for it. We're completely happy with the home. But all of the walls in this house is flat and you just can't wipe anything off of it. We'll need to repaint them because we have children and dogs. But we had an awesome experience and I recommended them.
I just called Clayton Homes the other day because we're looking at purchasing two more from them. My faher will be moving here in the Spring to live with us, and we're looking at getting him a small one. Then my younger son is getting engaged and my daughter-in-law loves my home. I told her she can get a better value going through Clayton.

I walked in at Clayton Homes and my house was almost top market because it was being sold, so I talked to Tish, the home consultant. She got me into it and I just paid for the house. She’s super wonderful and I like her a lot. After my house closed, I had to fill out the paperwork. The buying process took two days before I got it. I like the house a lot. It's nice and the energy bill's a little bit lower than what I'm used to paying. If I ever end up moving again, I’ll go through Clayton Homes. Wherever I go, that’s the place I’d go and look first. I’ve even recommended them to several people.

It was a lengthy process with Clayton, but it was an exceptional situation. The lot was on undedicated road. There were a couple of mistakes in the manufacturing process, but all you got to do is call them and they come out and fix them. They're easy to reach. If something might have been damaged during the transportation of the trailer, just text them. They missed a little spot of paint on the roof, but that's expected. Everything I asked for Clayton to do, they'd done, and they did a good job. I would recommend them.

It’s not just something I need but it’s also something I love. I also got refrigerator, stove and dishwasher that are helping me save in energy bills. I got a well installed too. I'm very satisfied with the amenities. There were some quirks and some issues that we had to resolve. But they did everything they could do to accommodate what we needed. My mother lives at home with me and she's tetraplegic. So, we did have to make some immediate modification such as we had to have doors wide enough. They really went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. The people at Clayton Homes are very knowledgeable as well. I was always on the phone with them. We were preparing for our daughter to get here and we wanted something new for her with better heat. And we were more than satisfied with Clayton Homes' overall home-buying process. Our daughter was born very premature, so she was in the hospital for a while. And they worked with us and held off until we got home and got settled. And then, we finished our paperwork. We worked with Mark and he was wonderful. He kept going until he got us into a home that fit our budget.
Clayton has done everything that they promised they would go through with. They even paid off my husband’s truck and our lawn, so that way we wouldn’t have extra payments going out. Our home was built perfectly. It was spacious and a whole lot bigger than the place we were living. We have more room now than I could have imagined even it being a three-bedroom. Our daughter is nine months old now. The house got delivered three weeks after she came home from the hospital. We were in the process of moving with the itty bitty little newborn, and it was exciting. All her first holidays were spent right here in our new house. It was perfect the way it fell. I would highly recommend Clayton Homes to anybody who wants to buy a home.

We already had a home and site built homes. We bought 10 acres behind our old site built home and we figured we’ll put a manufactured home out there. We started looking around and the first place we looked at was Solitaire Homes in New Mexico. They were big and nice but it was just too big, and so we went to the Sierra Vista Clayton Homes and looked and they had some nice ones.
I had already gotten approved for a loan but the manager at the office didn’t want to have any part in it. He wanted us to go through Clayton. I put some money down on one of the houses to hold it. A few days later, my son and I were in Tucson and we decided to go buy Clayton Homes there. We looked at Cavco and I felt they were cheaper built. I didn’t like them. The people at Clayton Homes Tucson were really nice. We looked at some models that they had and they had models that were for sale. The one that I absolutely fell in love with. The Tucson office went way above the call of duty and were so good to us. I would recommend them to anyone.
We ended up getting a three-bedroom, two bath but it’s not as big as the one that we looked at in Denning. The minute we walked in, my husband and I both said this is the house we want. It was our dream home. The layout is very open and it has archways. It has a nine-foot ceiling and our windows are all seven-foot. The floor plan is awesome and the house had a lot of the upgrades to it. We have the nice wooden cabinets and all of our sinks are porcelain. Everybody told us we’ll have a terrible time when the contractor starts coming in to do the preparation for the home, but the contractor that Tucson uses did an awesome job. They had a guy who actually works for Clayton Homes and he did a few little things like fixed a leak under the sink. Every person that we worked with was absolutely wonderful.
The only thing is that I’m waiting for Clayton Homes to call back because they told me to watch for cracks in the drywall once it settles. I do have some, but they haven’t called and that was in October. It's the only issue I have, but we’re very happy with our house. I love it. It’s everything that I would want if I would have ordered it. It froze here last night but the house is well-insulated that we haven’t even turned our heat on yet. My house is all electric plus we're paying a propane bill, and my bill runs $180. It's very efficient.

My home consultant was very nice, very friendly and always ready to answer our questions about stuff. And he communicated a lot which is the best thing. He was always on top of it and told us if he had any issues or anything popped up, and made sure that we are aware of what we had to do. We did a little bit of customization for our home. There were wide of options but, we weren't too picky. We liked it so much we just went with basically how it was.
The linoleum floors did really really well. It's easy to clean. The island and the kitchen was really nice as well, very open and inviting. A lot of people as soon as they walk in say, “Wow it looks really nice". However there's been some issue as far as quality on some of the items in the house. There were issues with some of the outlets for the entire kitchen, only some of the lights worked. And there were also issue with the hot water heater where it wasn't actually plugged in. But, as far as the cosmetics of it has been very great. I settled the issue with that. And as soon as I called them, they came out immediately and got that fix for me.
Everything's taken care of immediately. Overall it was fantastic! People don’t look at the trailer like they did 20-30 years ago. Its a lot more accessible and easy to do now. They're expensive for what they are. But my price was very good for what I got. But, looking at some of them they're expensive and you could almost buy a house for it so, I'm very satisfied with it.

We have had nothing but problems with the home and the company, our siding blew off so did our roof shingles. The cupboards are all falling off the hinges because they left them on during the move here. The shower in the master bath has been torn apart for months waiting for the right tile to be installed (they sent the wrong one two times before), and one of the faucets doesn't work. We have been waiting for a year for these issues to be fixed and are still waiting. To top everything off we just had an inspection done of the foundation for the home and it failed. They did everything wrong.
So now we have a new house that's falling apart that we can't even finance because it failed inspection and we can't sell, and the entire home we have been living in for a year has to be lifted up so the foundation can be fixed. DO NOT. DO NOT. DO NOT buy a home from this company. They hire the cheapest contractors to do the work from beginning to end. We even have a ton of paint spots on the floor from the factory. They take absolutely no pride in their work because they will sell the home regardless. Do yourself a favor and have a house built no matter what. I wanted to see if we can finance it out and then basically he’s like, “Hey, this is what you can get.” And I was like, “Great.” And we were excited.
The general manager of it was very helpful. He went up for our land person and inspected it and made sure that we knew exactly what we were looking for and what we needed to do to make sure we get the land ready. Every step of the way they were there for us and then finally we got everything installed and it was just a great thing. The process took about three weeks. I felt like I handled. They weren’t just selling me something. They were helping me put a new home out there. I didn't feel like I was buying a car. I thought they were helping me decide which one was going to be the house that we will live in for like 30 years. I felt like I was guided and I was driving a bus and they were like, “Hey, you turn this corner.” And I just felt like I was in charge.

We bought our single wide home new in 2003. While shopping we looked around at several different companies but end up deciding on Clayton because the salespeople were so nice and friendly. Worst mistake ever... as we've found out since, friendly salespeople is ALL this company has going for it. Our home is now 14 years old and it's falling apart despite us taking good care of it. The trim is falling off, the laminate countertops are peeling off, the laminate on the cabinet doors is bubbling and peeling and looks crappy. We've had to replace almost every doorknob because they all just fell off. We have a cabinet that wasn't even built square and actually bows out on the side. The front doorway wasn't even built square so our door hasn't ever properly closed. We can't even close our door well enough to lock it. It's super poorly insulated and we fight HIGH electric bills in the winter.
The most recent thing that happened, which really opened my eyes to exactly how incredibly crappy these homes are made, is a roofer recently FELL THROUGH OUR ROOF as he was putting a new roof on. We recently had some storm damage (Wind blew a section of shingles off) so we had new shingles put on. The roofer was up there removing the shingles and stepped on an area that was pieced together. When they built it, they took a bunch of little scraps of that pressed chipboard and PIECED them together without any sort of good support.
He basically stepped right on that spot and his FOOT FELL STRAIGHT THROUGH OUR CEILING. Now, get this... the spot he fell through wasn't in the area that was damaged and all the wood was fresh and clean... NOTHING ROTTEN or anything. Now if that isn't a crap job of a build, I don't know what is! It makes me sick thinking of all the money we've forked into our home. We'll be lucky if it's livable by the time we get it paid for. Speaking of paying for it brings up the other part of this horrible company. VANDERBILT. Hands down the worst company to have to deal with ever... but that's opening up a whole different can of worms and I don't have time at the moment to get into all that. So PLEASE... if you're looking for a home and you come upon a Clayton Homes center... DON'T STOP. KEEP RIGHT ON GOING.

I really liked the Clayton Homes salesperson. I walked from lot to lot and he was a lot easier to talk to. He allowed me to look around and ask questions and then told me the benefits of different choices that I make. It was really no pressure and once I had an idea of the direction I wanted to go, he helped me piece the whole thing together. He understands the process that a home buyer goes through. Purchasing the home was very easy but the sales team should have tripled the time estimate when everything will be ready. They use outside contractors for everything and there are a lot of stuff outside their control so there were delays and missed schedules of getting something installed.
I got the model that was on the lot and chose not to do any customization. I've only been in my house a little less than six months and I got mixed feelings on the quality. The carpet is probably the cheapest option out there and it is already starting to wear out. It even feels like there may have been some debris that the carpet got laid on top of because I feel bumps underneath. Also, I'm starting to see where they had rolled the linoleum floor over nail pops and they're starting to come up. A little more padding or maybe one step above with the flooring would have gone a long way. Other than that, I've been pleased with everything else and electrically, all the appliances are working.
Moreover, the person who has made all the difference for Clayton Homes is the maintenance guy who works after the homes are sold and set up. We've given him the key to our house to come in any time he needs to fix anything and he's been extremely trustworthy. If he says he's going to be there a certain time, he's there on time. He's been fantastic and the absolute star employee in my eyes. Overall, I would definitely recommend Clayton Homes.

Everything worked out real good. And I believe the house was made in Sulphur Springs Texas. And I’ve heard a lot of good about that. The price was reasonable. And it was to the point where we figure that was the best option. I've been very happy with the people at Clayton in Porter Texas, starting with the manager down to the young man who has just started working there. Their people brought the house in and they set it the way I wanted. They put the house together and the finish inside. Everyone did a great job! It really worked out good for us. However I had a few little issues with the house but the lady who handles sending out the worker to come out and make the real small adjustments responded very quickly. We love the layout of our home and the rooms but the only thing we’ve not liked were the cabinets that were in the kitchen. They were very cheaply made. When we took them apart, they were very light and easy to move. I would rather have the nice ones already put in and paid that. So, we replaced the cabinets with some that were durable. Wanting to move closer to family from Florida to Kentucky, and four (4) years of research, it was decided to locate a Clayton Homes business close to where we were moving. April, 2017, we found a home and paid cash. Agreements were signed, process outlined, etc... In June, 2017, we returned to Kentucky to check on next steps and found there were some delays: 1) Rep had not been to property to examine feasibility of property we purchased; 2) Were told the full "crew" had 'walked out' and there were 30+ other people waiting ahead of us.
In July, 2017, after numerous and countless emails, texts, phone calls, it was decided we officially retired and moved 2nd week of August. We were told we were NEXT to have our home delivered to our land. We were then informed by an employee, that crew had not quit/walked off job; they had all been released. Upon arrival in Kentucky, we found that not even a shovel of dirt had been moved and were told they were waiting for us to arrive. SO, storage units were rented as movers were arriving within 2 weeks thinking delivery would be into an actual house; a place to stay for 4 of us was needed; etc...
On October 10, 2017, a complaint was filed with the Clayton office in TN; after 3 weeks of phone call messages not being returned from them, another call was made to another "advocate" and 68 pictures were emailed and a four page listing of damages/items to be repaired/fixed. NO RETURN RESPONSE from anyone at Clayton Home's office in TN to date (Dec 2, 2017). After many more phones calls, visits to local office, as of late October, our house was still not ready for occupancy.
1/2 of house was delivered damaged first week of September (severe crack in ceiling of living room and the roof; and frame damaged/tongue) and mover damaged home on road en route to location; (pictures taken); second half of home was delivered one week later; 2 windows were left open -- rain soaked bedroom carpet and other into kitchen; 1/2 of home delivered in dark (sun had set 1/2 hour earlier - picture of darkness was sent to sales rep as we had been informed the crew said we would not allow them to finish their job) and we did stop the crew from attempting to get it anchored in pitch black due to safety concerns of them and the home.
After getting 2 pieces put together, damage was noticeable inside and out. (Pictures taken). Towards end of October, 6 months after house was purchased and available, inventory of the condition of home was taken. We had purchased the furnishing package and NO items were secured for move -- consequently broken items on floors (glass particles - pictures taken) -- including refrigerator which slid about 4-5 feet during move. Our present accommodations were not available after 3rd week of October. Consequently we located a hotel for a while.
A full inventory was taken of house damages etc., and presented them to a manager from the local Clayton Homes; a meeting on our property was held with him, a representative from Fleetwood Homes. They were -- specifically Fleetwood rep -- extremely rude and condescending to point one of us had to leave the room due to the tone and bullying tactics of the conversation. After many more days of delays, a rep from Fleetwood arrived to repair "some" of the damages but as of four weeks later -- 12/2/17, has not returned to finish replacing molding missing resulting in an opening in the walls/corners.
As of today, we still only have one means of egress from house which is safe; the HVAC or HV system is STILL not working properly, it is bringing outside COLD air into house when heat is put on; water is expelling from pipe for the AC even though AC has not been turned on in 4-5 weeks; corner edges are cracked outside of home; front door is broken and has been broken since day home was delivered; loose lever on hot water heater, ceiling in living room is falling again (although it had been repaired shortly after delivery); bathroom fan is hanging loose; etc., etc., etc...
Another call was made to the local Clayton Homes on November 30, 2017. Response was promised on Dec 1. No calls received. We have over 68 pictures of damages and 4 pages of issues. GREATEST CONCERN: we have guardianship of two grandchildren -- "under age" -- aged 11 and 14. We can only put so many blankets on them when temperatures are in the '20s and '30s and the air is blowing into the house via vents.
My recommendation is to read the reviews on this company and take them seriously. Working for 45-50 years to purchase a home to retire in and to safeguard our two grandchildren and have nothing to show for it was not our dream. Info I've received on other Clayton dealers is hearsay and therefore will not elaborate. I am addressing the Clayton Homes of Benton and the customer advocate dept. (customer complaints) at the TN main office.

Everyone was good to me at Clayton Homes. I wasn’t expecting to get the loan, but when I applied for it, they had lenders that work with people with less than perfect credit. Then Clayton told me that I was approved for the loan. They had set up the whole thing like they were supposed to and everything went smoothly. The home consultant was good and answered all of our questions. We had always wanted to get a different trailer because of the size, then the one we wanted came up. The home consultant worked with the builder down there and we took a long beach drive there, then Clayton said, “No problem. We’ll get it ordered.” They understood about everything and set things up just as we wanted. There were a lot of rearrangements that had to be done with the other trailer that we thought we were going to get. But they were able to get for us the longer trailer that we wanted, so we didn’t have to get the shorter one.
The only thing was, Clayton had told me that my home was set up for moving in by a certain date. So, we assumed that they would have everything done by then and we were ready to move out from our previous place. But then they turned around and said, “We didn’t say that.” They need not say something that isn’t actually going to happen. We had to move because the place we lived in had already been rented out to someone else. Despite that, however, I'll recommend Clayton Homes to people and I'd buy again from them.

I purchased a 2017 Clayton home 16x80 and upon first glance it looks amazing!! Myself and the seller did a QUICK walk through and I was very excited about the layout and all the neutral colors. I ended doing a lease to own option and the asking price was $56,400.00. As we were moving in we were doing the new construction clean up and to my surprise the house literally started to fall apart. I started by washing all the walls floor to ceiling and as I'd come across the strips that covered the seams of the sheetrock they literally FELL OFF just by hitting them with a wash rag! So I stopped altogether and walked around the entire home inside and out. WOW. I am so very disappointed in the quality of the craftsmanship. Not only did they shoot the nails too far through the wood on the trim but also around all the door trim!!
Everything was falling off the walls!! #2 under all my windows where they had pre hung curtains were wrinkled spots where they messed up on installing the wallpaper. Here's the real kicker... I decided to do a detailed inspection of the exterior of the house and I about had a heart attack!! During transport of the house they screw wood slats to the form of the home to keep the siding from coming off as well as down the side of the home about 10 feet back from the front of the house. Keep in mind that they said the house was done and really for move in! No joke. There were screw holes everywhere on the siding! Before I went to tell management I decided to jump up on the roof before I went and spoke my piece about the place. There was literally 147 screw holes in my shingles! None of them were sealed.
I've now been here for 30 days and I've had ABSOLUTELY NO PROGRESS to the repairs on my home. After I spoke to management about the issues with the house I was told I had to contact Clayton Homes to file a warranty!! Or the manager would do so for me. Here I moved in on Nov. 2nd and here in Minnesota it's winter!! I'm still waiting today for the repairs to be started! Ok. I got to vent a little about these homes. Now let's talk about what was promised. I was promised a shed with the home along with a deck and skirting and NONE OF IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED YET TO DATE!!!
The purpose of me ranting and raving about this is because I spent so much money and for what??? To be treated like a number! Here is almost December 1st and the ground is freezing and there's still no skirting. There are over 30+ brand new homes in this community so I decided to take a walk and look at some of my neighbor's homes with their permission and much to my surprise all 5 houses I looked at were in the same shape as my home!! FALLING APART!!! Maybe we just got the short end of the stick on this one but then again maybe not! I went to management with my concerns and yes I was a little upset. But I was told if I'm unhappy I can just move out! SAY WHAT!!! Ummm what about fixing my home instead of telling me too just move out! SERIOUSLY!
All in all... This was a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Now I'm sitting here with no skirting, holes in my siding and roof, I have 2 very large holes in the belly of the house, I'm missing siding in spots, my front columns are all bent, my doors have gaps where air comes through, I have had 2 faucets break, a drain pipe was cracked, the bathroom waterline was broken, all the doors need to be readjusted because they're tight on the top and there a gap a out 3/4 of an inch on the bottom!! All the trim needs to be replaced. People... Even my kitchen drawers don't close right! I'll end this here because I could rant all day. CHOOSE WISELY WITH CLAYTON HOMES!

Buying a home from Clayton Homes has been great. My home consultant, Steve, was awesome and he communicated very well. I didn’t have to always call. Instead, he always called me and kept me updated. He even allowed me to switch homes until I got the exact home that I could afford and that I like. Even after I got the home, he was pretty good. If I had any issues, he asked somebody to come out to make sure that everything was done properly. He also called and checked in to make sure that it got done. He was on top of his game from the beginning to the end.
Before I even got the home, Clayton's reps told me all the different banks that I could have financed through. They walked me through the paperwork and before I could sign everything, they gave me the breakdown of the mortgage as well as how everything can be paid. There were lots of things I did not know before I got there or never had experience with and they gave me good tips on the things I needed to look out for and those that I needed to be aware of as far as credit goes. Once I got approved, they told me not to get nothing else because it would affect my credit when I'm purchasing a home. Overall, Clayton Homes should keep up the good work. I have also recommend three people to them.

Hi Brittany! We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed working with Steve during your home buying process. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We hope everything is still going well and that you're continuing to enjoy your Clayton home!

Our home buying experience with Clayton Homes went well. Their consultant was very informative and funny. I had a little trouble with understanding how things were going to go in planning out my property and setting up utilities and she was really good at explaining those things to us. When I went in, I wasn’t even sure if I was ready to buy a home because I was concerned that my credit score wasn’t where it needed to be. So, she encouraged me to just go ahead and fill out the application and we’d see where I stood. And that way, I could figure out what I needed to do to get to where I needed to be. I got a conditional approval initially and so I had to turn in some stuff. But she was really helpful with it. And when I get frustrated, she would just talk to me. She was really great. In the end, I didn’t have to work on my credit at all. My score was actually higher than I thought. I now have my own house, it's my first home and everything is really good.

How wonderful, Ladawn! We're so glad to hear that your home buying experience went so well. Congratulations on becoming a homeowner, it's quite an achievement! We hope everything is still going well with your home!

Clayton Homes is in our hometown. I've always seen it but just never had to stop before. I decided one day to stop. Then I bought a mobile home for my granddaughter and then I bought the one that I just purchased and the quality is fine. The sales person was just so friendly and seemed well to do. The home buying process was great. They explained it all and it went smoothly. Miss Donna just wanted to help us so much. She was wonderful. I customized a lot of things in my home. I put ceiling fans in every room. I put one of the bathtubs I liked in one of the other homes, brought it in mine and they put it in there for me. I also put a utility sink in the utility room and they customized that for me, upgraded our kitchen. I also put atrium doors on both sides of the kitchen.

It's SO great to hear that you're so happy, Betty! We love knowing that you enjoyed working with Donna and that you were able to customize your home to be exactly what you need. Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your home and your experience buying it. Congratulations!

When Clayton was bringing the trailer, the bottom part hit and it broke some plumbing pipes when it got set up. I called them and asked them If they want me to wait and they'll send somebody out because my plumber was there to hook everything up when he found it and they told me to just go ahead and get him to do it and they would pay it.
I've sent the invoice, and I've had to call four times, and they’ve never paid him. They keep telling me that it's corporate. But other than that everything else was great. Everybody was awesome. My mom has been in the trailer for months. Their people made the buying process very easy and they were very helpful. Anytime that we did have problems, they always took care of it.

My mom and dad were buying a house the same time as my wife and I were. We went in and walked through the houses from Clayton Homes. My wife and I were thinking about what we're buying and looked online for a couple. Clayton Homes broke down our prices on what we could afford. I said the exact monthly payment that I didn’t want to go over and they made sure that we didn’t go nowhere near it. It was a nice and simple process. The first home consultant that we had was Alesha but she ended up transferring out. She left us with Steve, which is the manager of our site and home down here in Mobile, Alabama. He calls me all the time to make sure if there’s anything else I need or if anything is wrong.
I had everything that could go right but what really stood out was their customer service. It was my first time every buying a house. Any questions I had, I can call them up and if they’re busy with someone else, they'd still get back with me within the day or the following morning. They’re always looking for ways to improve themselves without anyone else saying. When there's something incorrect that came from the manufacturer, they'd say, “Okay, let me see how I can fix that.” Instead of, “Oh, well that's all back on them, there’s nothing we can do about it.” I enjoyed everything with them and I’d recommend Clayton Homes to anybody.

That's so great to hear, Kevin! It sounds like even with the transfer of your original home consultant, everything still went very smoothly! It's awesome to know that Steve is taking such good care of you and checking in on you. We were very satisfied with Clayton Homes. Their reps were great, answered all of our questions and got back with us if they didn’t know the answer. Also, when we had a water leak, they were right there to fix it. We had to get the area dried out because we didn’t find the leak until the water saturated the closet. Then they got the mold people out there to check it for molds. They tore it out, then, they had to dry it out for a few days. It went two weeks before they got everything fixed and painted back.

I am very pleased with my home and everybody that has come to see it says it's beautiful. My favorites are my bathroom, and my kitchen, the open concept part of the house. It's fabulous. My guest bathroom is very beautiful and it looks like a master bath. Kristi, our home consultant, was fantastic. She helped me so much through the process and took a lot of the stress out for me. When it should have been on me, she said, "Let me deal with it, I know what to do", and she guided me through the whole process and told me exactly what to expect, and was wonderful. She called me whenever something needed my attention, and helped me all along the way. She went overboard and she was very good.
I was impressed with how Clayton worked with me and got the things that I wanted in this particular house, and for accommodating me. This house did not have a second story and they worked with me on the floor plan, the things that I wanted to change about, and just did it to my specification. Everything turned out better than what I thought it would. Dan who works in the manufacturing company helped a lot too. He showed me pictures to make sure that it's what I wanted, and we went out to the factory, and he let me see the process of how they get a home and watched it being built. It was very good and they were excellent.

Thank you SO much for such thoughtful feedback, Lisa. We loved reading how happy you are with your home and everyone you worked with at Clayton! We'll be sure to pass along your praises of Kristi and Dan to their teams. Congratulations on your new, custom, home!

My wife and I purchased a new manufactured home in 2001 from a Clayton Homes retail center in Casa Grande, Arizona. This was our first manufactured home and it'll be our last. As with any home, you expect to have a few issues over time and numerous problems will inevitably occur like finding dirt under the carpet. However, we found a few very serious problems shortly after purchase with others much later either due to necessary replacement or during remodeling or repair which can only be described now as "quality control" issues. We found an incorrectly installed A/C unit during replacement and grossly inferior windows discovered with a little time and weather.
Finally, severe quality control issues were found during a remodel of the kitchen and guest bathroom. We discovered large holes in the floor in both areas, rat droppings, and part of drywall was missing (behind the tub) exposing the outer insulation. The large holes allowed rodents, outside air, and dust to freely enter our home unbeknownst to us. See photos. The most unforgivable problem, perhaps due to our lack of experience, was that we were never given an option for upgrades at the time of purchase. Had we known, we would have certainly opted for better windows and 2x6 studs in the outer walls.

I bought the lot model, and I’ve been having problems with it ever since. But Clayton Homes has been great about what they could do. The company, itself, is doing good but their contractors are kind of lax and some of the work of the getting done are shabby. I had a leak in my small bathroom. They came in and they replaced it, but they left out a few parts. The plunger that lifts, that stops the water doesn’t work. They left that part of it, and they changed the batteries for the smoke detectors, and one of them wasn’t even connected. And it still doesn’t work. The master bath had a low part in it that the tub, it wouldn’t drain all the way. It only took about three or four months to get it done, get it replaced.
Clayton should make sure the model that is set up on the lot is complete and ready to go because I tried to turn on a circuit breaker and it completely shorted out because they had a big old wire going from one end to the other that caused the short, and it left a lot like that. And some things weren’t done like I got a laundry room, it had no vents going out for the dryer. Do not to buy the model home because that’s what we bought and that’s what we got and it had all kinds of problems with it. But I’m happy with the place we have although we’d put a lot of work and time waiting for it to get up to snuff.

She came out here and knew what it took to get my best interest in. She was also down to earth and I really appreciated her. But there are a couple of things that I still got to get them to do.
There's a septic tank line connected to my home but it's not yet covered up so they still need to finish that. For some reason, they're a little bit slow about getting it done. I told them about it a while back and they came out, but they covered only half of it. As far as everything else, they’ve come in and fixed pretty much everything that I had a problem with. Also, to my understanding, mobile homes are not going to be custom-built. But there are a few things in there that I wish were done a little bit better like the molding and the curtain rods which are an inch and a half out of level. Overall I’m happy with Clayton Homes and the home that I got from them.

We started looking around different lots after the flood in 2016, and went over to Clayton Homes. We looked at what they had, as well as two other lots around the area. Then a guy that sets the trailers up told me that if I wanted him to set my house up, he has a really good reputation. SET Movers then told us that if I wanted him to set my house up, we had to get Clayton, which is why I ended up going back there, buying a special built Deer Valley modular home. From that point on, everything just fell into place.
We had a brick home that was 19 years old, so we had to tear it down on this slab. I was looking for something that could fit in the existing slab after the initial house was demolished. We went over a lot of the drawings that Deer Valley offered online, and we came up with a plan to modify our model and make it fit my slab. We got together on it, and we were able to come up with a design that I could work with without having to pour a lot of concrete. We only had to pour 9 yards, which was a very small amount.
We did a lot of upgrades with the house. We went with better cabinets and a lot of the upgraded stuff. There were some that were just more than we could afford, but the other things, we did ourselves. We did different things to the house inside, and we can’t complain about the quality. We made the home ours, and we love it! Both Clayton and Deer Valley have been great to us. When we’ve had minor issues, Deer Valley sent crews out here, three different times. Each time that we would let them know we had a problem, they were here within a few days. I’m really happy with them. And if I had to do it all over again, I’d still do it with them.

That's so wonderful to hear, Darrel! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your home buying story with us. We are so glad that you were able to get a home that's customized to be exactly what you need. Congratulations!
