We were promised over and over that we would be moved into our new custom ordered manufactured home by the last week of December 2015. We didn't even sign papers to begin ordering the home and construction on the property until December 11, 2015. Our house was delivered to the property on December 2, 2016. That was after numerous changes to the floor plan because Clayton Homes kept messing the plans up. We said from day one we wanted a French door. It was delivered with a patio door. We had to fight to get the French door we wanted. We also custom ordered extra lights in both bathrooms. Both were messed up. We also ordered (and paid extra for) outlets on every exterior corner. We cannot use for much of anything without blowing a breaker.

Instead of being on their own breakers they are connected to the interior of the house. Such as entire sections, bedrooms and bathrooms, living room and hallways, kitchen and laundry rooms. Our foundation was not installed properly and now we have nothing but a house that is falling down around us. Almost all of our piers were loose within 6 months of living in it and they came and tightened them and added more bit since they have not fixed the foundation. According to the private home inspectors we have hired, it is just going to happen again. We had a crown in the living room marriage line that went away when they tightened the piers. But now we have ripples in our linoleum. The linoleum that we were told was high quality that you can't set any furniture on or it leaves a permanent dent in. Every wall has cracks in it.

The manufacturer Fleetwood sent Trent Case and his son out to do repairs. The taped and mudded a couple of the hundreds of cracks but got mad when we pointed out that they missed 99% of them. After that they just slapped some caulking over them or paint. I had already painted some rooms different colors and they just used generic paint. The house originally was on top of my custom paint even though I told them I had custom paint. They also replaced caulking that was falling off at the ridge line between wall and ceiling. They used a razor blade to cut the old stuff and just let it fall down. That included falling onto my floor, furniture, plants, and into my open turtle tank filled with water. They also had to regrout in bathrooms and kitchen. There was grout all over the tiles and the counters left for me to clean up.

Due to me being a disabled veteran we had been told beforehand that they would take care of all cleaning and moving of furniture. That was not the case. And after they left they wrote up a work order and lied to Fleetwood complaining that we would not help them with cleaning or moving furniture. The kitchen sink, bathroom faucet have not been puttied. Window sills are coming apart and windows do not close. Walls are not plumb and are shifting (due to foundation). Door trims are coming apart and doors no longer shut properly or will not open (including front door). Glass was missing out of peephole on back door. Carpet was not tacked down to tack strip and within 3 months already needed to be stretched out. We paid extra for combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in every room.

We now have only 1 combination alarm and the rest are just cheap smoke alarms. They have been replaced 3 times because they have been wired wrong and go off almost every night. We have not been refunded for having been given cheaper alarms. We have a metal roof. The metal is twisting and lifting up and screws are falling out due to the shifting foundation. Missing screws means empty holes to allow rain and snow and other moisture which will cause mold. They have refused to fix it. In places you can see daylight between pieces of the metals. We have never asked for more than what we paid for more. We have been met with opposition and flat out refusal and plain rudeness and nothing but a bunch of lies from day one. They promised us a dream home. Instead they gave us the worst experience of our lives and a nightmare of a house (I can't even begin to call it a home).

Down payment kept going up. Been in this trailer for about 4 months. The work on this home is a joke like it was thrown together. Things don't line up. Trim popping loose, gaps, just a shifty built home. They want their money on time. Well I wanted what we paid for. Vanderbilt is very rude. Clayton Homes needs to be sued. They are a con package. I'm ready to walk away from these people and take my loss because I really don't have nothing worth paying what they want. My 72 trailer was in better shape. Wished I'd thought about looking at the reviews because I'd rather be homeless than live in a place that's already falling apart. All the hard earned money gone to hell. They definitely have a racket going on. If this place is huddle approved then had needs to step in. They need to be bankrupted and close their scam housing down. Very disheartening.

I purchased my home in 2015 from Price a Clayton Homes dealer located in Houma, Louisiana. It is now May of 2016. My house is now in the process of falling apart after only one year. The floor has nails coming up in just about every room in the house. The kitchen floor is bowing and has a two inch hole in it in front of the stove. The wall separating the kitchen from the master bedroom is bowing and has been "repaired" by a company that claimed to have 26 years of experience doing this type of work yet my wall is bowing out again. And when he reinstalled the light switch he wired the laundry room into the kitchen light switch on the other side of the kitchen. A second electrical company had to come out and fix that one. The cement company that he used to do the demo of the old house and to lay the new cement does not have a lic on file on the parish level nor on the state level.

The original company that came out to hook up the sewage, the lights and the air conditioning did not properly install the copper tubing and a second contractor had to come out and redo it because all of the freon leaked out in my house the first night I stayed in it. Now Price only wants to focus on the fact that this was not a true statement when I filed a complaint with the states fire marshal. Donald ** whose main concern was how I was wasting Price's time with all of this and he insisted that he had never Price before in his life yet when other homes dealers in the area were mentioned he seemed very familiar with them. Yet Price claims to have been in business for over 15 years. I find it hard to believe they have never met before yesterday which was May the 9th but he seemed to know so much about everyone else. And since that was never in question as to whether they met before he insisted on that fact 4 times.

Ever heard of Hamlet and the saying "The lady doth protest too much". Mr. ** eased Price's concerns by listing the defects in my home as cosmetic. The manufacturer sent out repair crews that were suppose to address the issue of the nails popping up and they both argued with me that it was debris, only to find out that they were in fact nails. My middle bedroom window was in a bind and Price admitted that when I showed him that the window would not open more than two inches. Price brought the mover he used out with him for the inspection and the man had to get on his knees and strain to open it. Then proceeded to show the fire marshal the window would open and it was not an issue and that is the only time the fire marshal stepped up and said it was.

The mover Zach ** claimed the window was not a fire escape in an attempt to relieve Price of his responsibility for fixing it by saying it was not a fire escape even though the sticker that was two inches from his face said it was. I showed the marshal over ten nails that were popping up and yet he said he only saw 3. And proceeded to tell me that it was better left alone because repairs of this type only make the house worse and most people regret having the issues addressed. He then claimed his house that is over 40 years old has the same issues. The walls that make up the shower in the master bathroom have had to be stapled back together twice. The shower door is unlevel. The wall that makes up the laundry room has separated so much a piece of paper can be slipped through to the other side and yet all I kept hearing was how it was withing HUD tolerance levels.

My doors are unlevel and during the morning you can see the how the gap is small on one side and larger as it gets closer to the other side. The carpet is coming unraveled in all the rooms. And this is only some of the issues I have had dealing with the person Price **. The cement company that he used for the demo was suppose to leave the power pole up but yet knock it down with their front end loader and left the pole on a pile of debris that smoked and sparked all night until I could get a hold of Entergy to do an emergency shut off before it caught it on fire. They damaged my driveway even though they were informed beforehand that driveway was weak and were told to use mats to protect it and they didn't. I finally got them back out to repair my driveway only for them to dig out the area and then leave it for over 6 weeks until I had to call and threaten to sue them to come out and fill it back in.

Then added insult to injury by offering me 400.00 dollars instead of fixing it. The men they sent out to fix it was sitting in my yard under a tree as a lightning storm was moving through so for their safety I told them they could come back the next to finish it. But that was a mistake. Now it's being said that I sent them away and would not allow them to finish. I never told them to leave my yard. I gave them option to come back the next day when it was safer for them to be out there working. They use the fact that I am poor and have vision problems against me by saying I have to get on my hands and knees to find the nails coming up out of my floor.

Government funds were spent on this house because I am disabled and needed assistance to replace my house after storm damage from hurricane Katrina and Gustav because I didn't now qualify for FEMA either time for monies for repairs even though I could not afford homeowners insurance. I waited 8 years for this house. And it is heartbreaking that Clayton Homes dealers are allowed to get away with this. Warren Buffett should be ashamed of himself doing business in this manner by taking advantage of the poor, sick and elderly. And if you review the behavior of other dealers for this man it seems they all behave in the same manner. They disrespect their customers to the point of causing them anxiety and mental anguish.

When I first submitted the request to have my walls fixed because they were separating Price's answer was to send out his maintenance man to take the molding off and scoot it over so you couldn't see it anymore. I pointed out that the wall was splaying at the bottom which this is the same wall that was repaired was just the molding yet you can see the sheet rock is not flush with the frame. I have pictures on file to show the damage.

Well we have had contractors here 3 times. The sheetrock looks like a 2yr old did the work. The paint work is terrible, front door will not stay shut without forcing it. Molding does not line up, cracks in all the corners of sheet rock. Still no ice maker hooked up. Still haven't changed hot water heater out 30 for a 50. Had to call heat pump man out. He forgot to charge the unit. Had to call the carpet people back and the did fix. That ceiling fan in the living room not flush with ceiling. They did not hook up the crossover for the heat and air and when they did left it laying on the ground.

Thanks to the state inspector he made them fix that. He has turned this house down twice. So far I only wish that he inspected the inside also then this crap wouldn't fly. The manager of the sales is nothing but a lying crook using his unskilled buddies to do the work. Tomorrow is Wednesday. They are supposed to fix all this in one day. Well I'm telling you if not then I am done talking. We will finish this in the courtroom. We work hard for what we have and I fully expect to get what I'm paying for.

I feel by reading review we were very lucky that we never were ABLE to purchase a modular home from Claytons. We were trying to purchase a 185,000 modular home. We had to get our own financing because they only offer one lender who is too high on interest rate. We never could get a hold of Candy who is the manager of Clayton Homes in Conway but yet if I drove down guess who would be there. She treated me like I was a street bum trying to spend time in the design home on lot. We had already told her we were buying home still communication or lack of got worse. She practically pushed me out of the house one day because she had a meeting going on but yet my friend has went in and were told "Come on in we are having a meeting but it's ok look around". And here I was a buyer.

They close their office before the hours they are suppose to. I had to call corporate office for SE Energy Homes to even get samples to see my options and when they mailed them to Clayton she wouldn't let me in house but wouldn't let me take samples home either. She was rude, hateful, and I can only imagine how things would have changed once they started building home. We also went to another location to try and do business. We really wanted this home and still no sample just online website which I was more familiar with at this point than they were. The guy was nice but he treated us like we were building a mobile home that has very little options vs. a modular customized home for 185000k.

It would honestly take me all day to list the things wrong with our home! We purchased our home in Corinth, MS. We were pretty much threatened by Horrace, the repair guy, if we did not give them a good review on the survey! He even asked us to lie to Clayton when they called and tell them he made repairs on things he never touched so he could bill them for more money! He did this every time he came out. We were also told by Blain the salesman he would give us a wonderful surprise if we gave them a good review on the survey. We are still waiting on this surprise.

When we purchased our home we were told the coating on our cabinets had been recalled, but they would not repair it because it was too much work! It started peeling off the cabinets the first month! We also have electrical sockets that have pulled out of the wall and was told by Horrace that the home was not made well enough to hold them so we should use our thumbs to hold them in place when using them! Our front door leaks water inside and all of the moulding in the home is falling off the walls.

They even got the concrete piers backwards and refused to fix it! Our siding falls out even when there is just a light wind. They did not connect it completely. It had gaps and the guys who did it were very rude and told me to fix it myself! I am disabled so that was a joke! We also have no water pressure in one of the bathrooms. They said it must be an acorn in the pipes, but they would not fix it! We also had sawdust blow out of all the vents for over a year and not just a light coating! I will NEVER recommend Clayton to anyone and I will spend the rest of my life warning others!

My husband and I bought a Clayton Home in 2013 Oct. We were so excited to have our first home and our retirement home. We had to call them back out because they didn't hook up the back restroom plumbing so needless to say (guess where all the mess from the toilet went?) - exactly. Then they had to come out and put on the skirting and paint it. Well it didn't match the house color as requested so they ended up painting the entire house again (including the screens). We cleaned up that mess. Then about a year and a half we began having other problems. It rained and the roof leaked, into the back bathroom down the hallway wall, down the connecting living room wall and under the floor tile. We were told to contact our insurance. It was not under warranty, because we didn't have a check up on the house after 1 year of being placed. Well you think someone could have called and reminded us? HECK NO!!

So we got that taken care of as well. Then last month we noticed water in pantry, tracked it back and the waterline for the refrigerator had been installed, in one of the cupboards beside the refrigerator one that doesn't get used a lot holds holiday dishes etc. Well when we opened the cupboard guess what had been leaking apparently for a while because the entire inside of the cupboard was covered in mold and rotting? Lovely. Our insurance said not covered because apparently they don't cover water leaks from faucets only if the leak is inside wall. And Clayton well let's just say if there was a return policy I would gladly give them back the pile of pressed wood and cardboard they sold me for 92000,00 dollars.

We purchased our modular home from Clayton Homes in Morganton, NC about 11 years ago. As we went through the process of picking out the perfect floor plan, we thought that everything was going good and that we were getting a really good deal. Little did we know, that a good deals = poor craftsmanship. A few days after our house was submitted to be built, the salesman called and said the floor plan was upgraded, but no design details were given. When the house arrived, we no longer had a walk-in pantry and recessed lighting. The pantry was one thing that sold me on the house.

Also, all our receptacles and light switches are not fixed to the studs so they pop out of the walls. Our floors started creaking within a month of moving in. Now we cannot walk through the house without making noise. All the cabinets in the house have particle board faces with a laminate wrap, which is peeling off. Other than having a roof over my head, I have nothing good to say about their homes.

I purchased a 2015 Clayton Home through AMEGA Sales in Ashland, MO. I paid cash for a 28'x68', 4 bedroom, 2 bath home with 2x6 exterior walls. I informed the salesman we wanted hardwood cabinets and trim, oak cabinets, energy eff. windows and doors... interrupted mid-sentence we were told "AMEGA Sales has just what you want in our top line cookie cutter model with everything everyone wants." Well it didn't, no fireplace and no double back door. We purchased one that just arrived it was still wrapped so we didn't see much at all, people never do this.

Clayton Homes have 2x6 ext walls, but no exterior boxing, it has 1/4" foam, we can hear everything outside at night. No elect boxes for plugs or switches, and not mounted to studs, they are mounted to 3/8" sheetrock. We have pulled 4 right through the sheetrock, 4 of the light switches were broke. Sheetrock very thin and many locations seems are not secured to studs, every sheet of rock was loose.

Toilet seats are so cheap thin plastic they cave in if you sit on the lid, bathroom sink is plastic, tubs are abnormally short and very, very thin plastic, closets for not have light switches except master, bathroom has ONLY ONE receptacle, all door are out of level and alignment, exterior doors are so cheap and light weight and sprung out of shape I am replacing, furnace did not work and was told I had to find a dealer who would warrant it to get it fixed, carpet became matted after one month - very cheap, cabinets were very thin almost cardboard - I replaced all of them, kitchen sink so small and shallow water sprayed out of the plastic water fixtures all over the countertop that has no backsplash, nor do the vanities. There is not a single wall that is square, interior walls 2x3 with 1x3 top and bottom plate lumber.

The finish crew were so bad. One of the windows the sheetrock did not reach the stud so this guy shot 54 nails in the length of a window trying to make it stay in place. None of the paper trim had square cuts. They provided no base trim at the floor, trim is 1" wide and to cover errors. They just doubled and tripled trim strips. The carpet has never been seamed, I was told they don't do that - it isn't profitable. Skirting was thrown up like wrapping tape around toothpicks, no cut corners. It's warped and buckled and uneven. This crew made a huge mess all over our new home - saw dust, dirt, gravel, glue, caulking, construction material debris. We cleaned everyday - they trashed it and walked out every day.

Everything about our Clayton home from top to bottom, sales group to finish crew were so far below low in quality, craftsmanship, dependability. One would never think it possible something like this is even offered. I have NEVER in my life even seen such low quality materials, didn't know this type of cut-rate stuff were even available. I have tons of photos of this ridiculous experience my wife and I have had to deal with. If anyone would like to see, I know this is a lot but this home is so bad I got to where I had to laugh when AMEGA says, "Well we don't cover that."

NOTHING, AT ALL, I can say about this home is good. For God's sake Wal-Mart sells a toilet seat that is solid plastic you can sit on for $5.44. If you are thinking about one of these homes think about all these things I labeled above. They have to be counting on people never questioning the quality of the toilet seat so they get away with supplying the $0.79 quality seat. Stay away, don't go through this, no one deserves a disposable box like this.

I purchased a home from them last year. It took over 6 months to finally get the home on my property. The main person in charge blatantly lied to convince us to buy a home. He promised us things, such as a washer and dryer, but when it came time to sign the documents none of those things were included. My husband recorded him making the promises and told him we would sue him in court. The main guy was infuriated but eventually gave us the porch as promised but it was really a set of steps to get up to the door. We did not get the washer and dryer because they claimed there was not enough left on the loan. After everything was said and done, there was well over a $1000 not used on the loan. We also purchased the 5-year warranty. They refuse to actually abide by the warranty. We have to pretty much harass them to do anything.

The back door leaked and would open randomly all the time. They finally replaced the door after numerous failed attempts to caulk the door. The guys they sent out basically called me stupid when I told them the door would open all the time. Now water is leaking in several spots on the exterior walls on the ceiling. They claim this is "normal". There are not enough vents in this poorly made tin can to even heat the living room properly. One room's closet is basically a meat locker in the winter time. They did finish putting the cheesy trimmings in one bedroom so you can see inch wide gaps between the sheet rack. Everything in here is made of plastic or compressed cardboard. I regret immensely buying this mobile home. It's not worth it.

They put the home in backwards because they didn't want to level land properly so my front and back doors are reversed from all my neighbors. They didn't put new items in like they were supposed to. Put a cream color door instead of white to match other interior doors. They built a crappy storm door instead of putting a new one in to save money. They didn't seal all drywall cracks. They don't return calls. And worst of all, they didn't put our paperwork in properly to transfer title to our name. So a year after we let them know, they still haven't done it and we are in the middle of selling it. Filing next with BBB and calling the press. Do yourself a favor and find another company.

Well I am fed up and pissed so now my lawyers can get my home and yard fixed the right way. For $130,000 it should have been right the first time. Clayton Homes can kiss my white ass. This is the first time that I have ever hoped a company goes belly up!!! Vanderbilt's piss poor excuse for a mortgage company can go with them! Our credit got approved but the house that we were trying to buy and had already put a 20 thousand down payment on was already sold. They wasted our time asking for the same information over and over and to end up telling us the house we wanted they had already sold during our process of getting the loan approved!

Purchased a manufactured home from Clayton mobile homes. The people at our local office were great and as helpful as possible but the home we purchased for $90,000.00 was truly a piece of crap. There was a hole in the tub, a hole in the drywall between the master bath and the laundry area you could put your fist through. Interior wall studs in some areas did not even reach the floor. The walls were out of square and floor alignment was non-existent. Cabinets were made out of some material I have never seen before and covered with a wood grain type tape. It is extremely brittle and difficult to work with. They are poorly made and will have to be replaced before long.

Both toilets were improperly installed which broke the mounting flanges and had to be replaced. Had the floor been covered in linoleum as was recommended, both toilets would have rotted out the sub floor and eventually fallen out of the home onto the pad underneath. Corners were split and cracked requiring ample amounts of caulking which required additional painting work. I was told by Clayton that the home came with a one year warranty and they would fix any problems but my feelings were this: If they cannot put it together properly, how in the world would they be qualified to repair it properly?

Exterior paint work was shoddy and I had to repaint it due to it being the wrong color as well. Local Clayton office supplied the correct paint at no cost to myself and even paid me a minimal amount to repaint the exterior and interior to remove the roller lines left by an unqualified painter. The home came without toilet paper holders, without towel holders and unfinished wood work. The baseboards, window casings, door jams and all doors had not been painted, only primed. Again, the Clayton dealer supplied the paint for me to do the work myself.

The carpet that was supplied with the home could not have been cheaper and was not installed at our request so we could install laminated flooring. Both baths and laundry area were also unfinished at our request so tile could be installed. (I have been a contractor for over thirty years and while being amply qualified to do construction and restoration work, I can honestly say I have never seen such shoddy and unprofessional construction.) Trim work for the paper-like cabinets was not installed but supplied by the Clayton dealer at my request since it is not considered to be standard but optional if demanded.

Windows, doors, bathtubs and showers were left un-caulked with the explanation being their design did not require waterproofing which is a total crock. To add insult to injury, even the mini-blinds that were installed at the factory in Chandler, AZ were not evenly placed in the windows and have to be re-hung. Door casings were out of plumb, weather stripping was improperly installed and sub-floor was uneven in many areas. I can honestly say if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't.

My wife was in tears and it took me eleven and a half weeks to correct the screw ups in this double wide manufactured abortion of a home. I feel the manufacturers of this home should cut me a check for about $45,000.00 since I feel as though I paid twice what it was worth. I want to make two things very clear about this lengthy complaint. One: The dealer here in Snowflake could not have done anything more to try and be helpful and correct my complaints. I have no complaints about them what-so-ever. Two: I have no complaints about Vanderbilt mortgage company. Their interest rate is about twice what it should have been, but banks and loan companies wanted my property as collateral and that was not going to happen. They have been helpful, informative and worked with me to my satisfaction.

My anger and frustration is with the so-called manufacturing of the home itself. I would never, ever recommend the purchase of a Schult mobile home.... not even to someone I truly disliked. On a scale of one to ten, I would give them a score of NEGATIVE 20. If anyone wants to challenge what I have said here, be advised I took many, many photos of the situation and have several people who would testify UNDER OATH about everything stated here.

We started the home buying process in May 2015 and we signed our closing paperwork on September 1st. We were told it would take 60 days at the latest to be moved into our home. We are now in November and we have already made a mortgage payment and still not in our home. Vanderbilt mortgage was our only option because of our student loan payments and debt to income being too high for traditional mortgage loans. We have gotten very poor communication from Clayton Homes of Ridgeway VA. I have had to call and email every week to get updates because there is no follow up on what is going on.

After calling and emailing every day in October, we were finally told the code to get into the home with the lockbox on the front door. When I asked about the painting that was being done on the inside that looked like my 5 year old could have done better, I was given the excuse that they were waiting on power to see everything to do the touch ups. We heard earlier this week power would be done by the end of the week to find out the wiring had been done by the electrician and still couldn't be completed. Then Clayton tried to say we are the ones that told them to wire everything that way.

Last time I checked, I wasn't an electrician and this is the first time we are purchasing a home therefore I wouldn't know what to do in regards to the wiring. Met with the guy from Appalachian Power this morning and his response is "I can put in the work order, but it will probably be after Thanksgiving before you get into your home." This is unacceptable. We are now paying for rent and a mortgage because we can't get in our home without power. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T USE CLAYTON HOMES IF YOU CAN. AVOID THEM. THEY LIE AND THEN TRY TO BLAME YOU...

My husband and I started to buy a home from Clayton Homes in Elko, NV. We told the salesperson and office manager up front how important it was for us to know where our property lines were as we had a bad experience in Oklahoma that same month. The property we tried to buy there was encroaching on property next door by 12 feet. We could not stress how very important this was to us. We told them they need to be marked. We were ensured by Katie office manager that they would mark them for us. They have never marked even though we have talk to her about this numerous and she would always tell us she was getting it done. Here it is, November, and we still do not know where our property lines are. Also, she has talk down to me several times. Told us when our house would be ready. Wasn't ready until a month later.

Cost us more money for all the delays. Lied to us about so much. Has not finished our landscaping which she keep saying would be done that week every time I talk to her. I would wait a week or 2 then call her again. Same story it will all be done this week. Not done. Last time I talk to her about Landscaping and property lines her statement to me was "I am trying. Don't you think I am damn tired of you calling me about this every day." I didn't call her every day. This person doesn't know how to talk to people.

I would never buy from Clayton Homes again and would tell everyone not to buy from them as I have talk to everyone in Company I can and no one is will to stand up for us on this. Her boss Damon is no help either. This was suppose to be a new beginning for me and my husband as we have been through in last year. Katie has taken all the joy of buying this home for us.

We purchased a 2014 model home from Clayton Homes of Grand Junction CO. We were supposed to be moved in in December of 2014. The home was not completed until July 2015. Clayton Homes of Grand Junction has failed to honor their warranty. They are very rude dishonest and untrustworthy. We had an electrical issue to the extent that it burnt up 2 TVs, a new kitchen mixer, and a large air compressor. Their disposition after the 2 electricians told them it was because of faulty wiring is that it is not their fault nor responsibility. If that weren't bad enough our children burnt their hands on a light switch because it became excessively hot. It took involving the manufacturer to get any resolve.

According to the state inspector, the foundation is incorrect, which is why in just 4 months the different halves of our homes are unlevel, doors won't open without screwdrivers, the drywall cracks ceiling to floor overnight, and the foundation itself is coming apart. Not to mention the floors are raising at the joints in the subflooring. Exterior and interior walls are shifting learning in/out. Clayton Homes of Grand Junction has done nothing but dismiss the issues their own contractors have attested to. Dream home my butt more like nightmare from hell.

We are in the process of suing them but would be interested in filing a class action suit. To sum it up quickly electrical issues, sewage issues and leaks, water line leaks, damaged cabinets, damaged flooring, shifting moving walls, excessive drywall cracking, inoperable doors, non-functioning electrical outlets, an inappropriate deteriorating foundation, and more lies than in politics in less than 4 months. Why would anyone want to buy this kind of headache?

They began to blow-off the first year we had it. Recently I had lost so many tabs I decided to do some repairs. When I went to remove the first shingle, I noticed that there was no "Felt" installed between the Shingles and roof sheathing. No wonder the roof was leaking... When enough tabs blew-off, the water went straight to the plywood (chipboard) and right into the home. When I called Clayton to ask if they would help, they said “Sorry... It's out of warranty.” They did admit there should have been paper under the shingles, but refused to help me in anyway. Thanks for nothing Clayton. You sold me an "FHA Standard" home, said there should be paper under the shingles - there is none there and you refuse to help. You do NOT stand behind your product and this is basically fraud.

I stated, "No Eddie, Clayton Homes has my clear title," but Eddie kept insisting that I give him $1000.00, then it was $500.00 until he got to $300.00, and I went back into the office and told the ladies to get my title I would be going somewhere else, at which time they handed me my title and I left! I went to three other mobile home sales which the first thing they informed me of was Eddie at Clayton Homes had been fired from numerous mobile home sales for that very reason including stealing!

I ended up at McComb, Mississippi Clayton Homes! Greeted by a very nice lady named, Lisa! So nice she had everyone that came through the door eating sugar out of her hands! He finally left and Lisa and I looked over the papers I had filled out and she said, and I quote, "I think we can do business!" Much to my surprise Darren agreed! I picked out a home, "nope, you can't afford that one," so I kept looking! Finally, Lisa & Darren picked one out for me! Sent me the floor plans and lo & behold, I did like the floor plans!

So Lisa and I picked out the colors and just the basic, bare necessities! I bought my Clayton home from CA based factory DBA Karsten Homes otherwise inc under CMH Manufacturing, Dealer DBA Woodcrest Homes under McDougall Weiner Inc. Purchase date: Sept. 18,2014. My nightmare began with the realization that things were just not right from the get go. Rattling floors, heating duct making banging noises, ceiling and wall cracks all over the house. Truly a drywall mess throughout. Window taking in water, kitchen cabinets doors hung crooked, door knobs loose. That was the first report then the cracks got worse and I found more. I am told by the dealer that it was settling. Well there are no settling cracks which are at doors and windows. The corners are cracking, the ceiling was not joined and evenly textured, the paint isn't even sprayed evenly.

Then I noticed nails coming out of my siding. This ended up being a wildland fire code violation because there was no caulking and the nails coming out or nailed improperly. Even the siding was not attracted to stud in places. All of you out there inspect your homes for siding and trim installation codes violations. The manufacturer and dealer/installer got ugly with me when pushed to repair according to my knowledge and in reference to siding manufacturer guidelines. They pulled up stacks and invited me to file a claim with State department of Housing. What a joke that was. The man from the state was arrogant, argumentative and cited the fire code violation but would not address the entire complaint. Even excluded the exterior trim from repair and installation guideline. Now he says I have to file another complaint! Ughhh!

The state is not helpful and they are supposed to be a consumer advocate! Well folks it is the other way around! I even had a local attorney tell me that his experience with the inspectors in Northern CA is very frustrating for him as well. He said if in the Bay Area it would be different things get done! So here I am with a half assed siding repair splotchy paint job, floors still rattling, sink leaks, plastic seal under the home with cut-outs not sealed. Windows starting to warp because there are no gutters. In this El Nino year we could get 40 in of rain! Huh a house in the mountains with no gutters. The water just pours into the windows as there is barely a overhang. My carpets are worse. Get this I was told to hit it with a hammer Lol! Really? This home is a money pit in it first year! My wood deck to the front is even falling apart with tremendous cracks in all the deck boards and posts are splitting in half!

I am so upset! I bought this house for $77,000 a HUD price! I am grateful for a roof over my head as my situation was homeless for 3 years. I am disabled at 60 wanting this home to be the place to be until I could not care for myself any longer. On a fixed income I have tearful days wondering if I will be able to afford this disposable home I bought. Karsten/Clayton and Woodcrest Home should be ashamed of themselves. HUD and the State of California should be too for that matter because there is no oversight to the lack of standard and the corner cutting this company does.

If there is a lawsuit out there let me in on it. Class action is warranted for us all! I continue to fight and for my right to have this home not fall apart anytime soon. This is not only my home in the park but a string of them installed last year. All of us have many of the same issues. One for sure is the siding installation not within the wildland fire code. Who inspected these homes? I want to know. This person is culpable too I should think. In my opinion they are all on the take benefiting from a HUD contract and getting away with substandard homes sold to low income!

Problems from day one: floor, ceiling cracks, trim missing, siding warped... Okay so new homes are going to have problems upon initial inspection BUT the repairs should be done in a timely manner and not over 2 years later. My phone calls went unresponded to. My kitchen cabinets and counters started warping after my home was only 5 months old. I was told that the condensation from cooking caused it! I am sorry but I do not know how to cook without causing some steam nor washing dishes without getting some water on the counters.

Now, 2 1/2 years later my ceiling is leaking, black mold is growing in my a/c closet, and everyday a piece of trim is falling off and the ceiling cracks are migrating. I want the 3 walls in the a/c closet replaced (because of mushy black mold) but am being told that condensation is the cause and thus not covered under my extended warranty. A/C condensation is not my fault and the walls should be equipped to handle the moisture. No one has come to assess the ceiling leak but I am being told that the roof is not covered under the warranty because it is not structural(?). Clayton Homes quality is substandard. Maybe I just got a dud, but if I were you I would not chance it. Go with another brand of home.

I was most frustrated with the fact I left messages and never received a call back as well as expressing how I felt through email.

It has since been weeks now - never got anything back... not even a sorry for crushing your family's dreams. I thought they were rude and spent more time smoking than taking care of issues. Extremely mad but after reading game these reviews on the quality and customer service, I have to say this is the best thing that could have happened for us. Supposed to have warranty but they have yet to do anything. Glue on walls. Had to replace every door frame in this house. Worst experience I have ever had. I wouldn't recommend my worse enemy to buy a house from these low life gimmes. And not to mention also had to replace my dishwasher already. And yes, we are fixing to buy another one and guess what. Won't be from Clayton. I promise that.

Clayton sold us a home in 2007. Nothing but problems ever since. We were charged for foundation work. We have no foundation. They lied to us saying we could SRT up in town on property we owned. They didn't check with the city. I asked if they had. The manager said they had. They had not. So we set up in the county on land my father owns. Now we have to pay him rent.

Additionally, the house was cheaply made. I have a cupboard that barely opens. The stove is in the way. The stove doesn't go back fat enough because the gas line wasn't installed properly. The doors don't shut right and have to be readjusted frequently due to shifting. Did I mention there's no foundation? The only swamp cooler vent blows directly over the only place for a kitchen table. The cupboards will peel if you look at them wrong. OK that's an exaggeration, but scotch tape does the trick. The carpets have rolls. The floors squeak horribly. There's a distinct slope in the main room. The center strip where the two sections go together has had to be creatively reattached. etc., etc. I can't sell or refinance. I don't have money to sue. Don't know what to do.

My Clayton home is the biggest "piece of **" ANYTHING, that I have ever spent my hard earned money on. You'd think that in a factory setting the quality could be superb. They have been doing this a long time and should have it perfected. The quality of materials is less than adequate. The floor joists have a camber making the center of the floor higher than the outside walls. Some walls have a bow. The roof or walls leak during a rain and then they don't during the next rain. I haven't figured out exactly how the water is getting in. The short wall next to the refrigerator was sunk into the floor. Had no brace between floor joists to support it. Had a panel pull off of the laundry room door before the house was even set up. Turns out the nails were too short.

The service guy spent two whole days out here leveling and correcting things that were missed at the factory. I understand it is a $40k manufactured home, but like I said it is built in a factory and should have better quality. The linoleum floor is not even glued down. I can step out of the shower and with damp feet the floor will stick to my feet and when I lift my foot the flooring comes up. So many things are crooked and it seems the house was just thrown together. There are humps in the floor and new ones that just appeared after 2 years. I could go on and on, but I think anyone reading this or anyone who has wasted their money on a Clayton POS knows what else I could say. If you have to buy a mobile or manufactured home don't buy a Clayton. I should have bought a Solitaire.

We just purchased a new home at the end of March 2015 with Clayton Homes of Anniston Alabama. At first they did everything they could to help get us financed. Even went above and beyond expectations, but that's where it stops. After they get your contract signed, they start dragging around and not fulfilling promises they made and even things that are legally supposed to be done. And when you call, they avoid your calls and never bother to call you back. We are very angry and are pursuing legal action against them. They set our home up the first week of April, it had been raining and was extremely muddy.

To start with, the land clearing wasn't done the way we wanted it done and home not set up where we wanted it placed either. Then the pad wasn't done correctly, it is supposed to slope away from the home on all four sides and the spot be built up but instead they left the front sloping down right to the home which made the home like down in a hole so to speak and did not slope the sides at all. The back is the only part that is sloped correctly. The state inspector didn't even pass it, said they had to fix if first and then they didn't even come back to fix it for 2 months. Then all the man did was push the dirt around and make it worse so still not fixed and these morons swear it's right and refuse to do anymore to it. To this day to our knowledge, the state inspector still hasn't passed it but they swear it passed but the inspector himself told us it was wrong. But these fools done threw up the underpinning and so called porches.

Then there's the matter of the home itself... It's not even put together right. It's a double wide and they put it together crooked and don't want to get off their lazy butts and fix that either. And when the guy from the manufacturer came to fix what he could do the internal damages they caused during the delivery and set up, he verified that it was in fact put together crooked and that it was the dealership's responsibility to fix. We have only had it 2 and a half months and walls are cracking, floors popping up, walls pulling up from floor. Man said it would only get worse if not fixed, will not be livable in a few years and this is a brand new home with a 947.31 a month mortgage for 23 years we are talking about here and they don't give a ** enough to come fix it. DO NOT BUY A HOME FROM THIS PLACE... YOU WILL END UP WITH A MESSED UP FALLING APART NEW HOME!!!

State regulations require felt paper placed on the roof then the shingles, there is no felt paper on my roof. I have serious, nasty ceiling damage because of the leaks. Some areas are molding. My septic tank has had problems since day one. And this is no joke, truly, my A/C came on and the kitchen floor literally blew up like a balloon. They lie, a sales person was suppose to be taken off our case because of obscene jester, and she was not. They say they do quality work, there is not. If a professional did the tiles in the bathroom, it does not look like it. They just do things to get things done. We are probably the only customers who have not let things go. We have had to order doors three times. They do not listen, oh they make you think they are listening. They hurry up to do things so you can not change things.

My husband has a bad heart, the stress is over the top. We remodeled three houses, we never fought like this. We spaded. It was a fight with them right from the beginning. We would tell her we did not want something then we found out it was ordered anyway. Well we did not let it go. People need to speak up. Stop letting things go. There is something wrong with the way they do business. The sales lady three times paid for the mistakes she made in ordering, that seems to put up a red flag. She said she paid for things, that was only to cover her butt. She knows she did wrong and she was not going to get away with it with us.

For 42 years I made a list of what I wanted when my husband retired. They threw the list away. That should have been a red flag. Our contractor who delivered the house is wanting to not do anymore work for them. They delivered the house the second week of November. We have only been in for a month. Things did not ever seem to get done, everything kept going wrong, and had to reorder different products. I have a lot more to say. If you want to get what you want in a house, do not get a manufacture home.

This went on for over 2 months. His reasoning was that I would give him a bad customer service rating and he said would not allow that. I ask for his reasoning in writing and he refused to give that to us.

I see a lot of bad reviews and my heart goes out to those people but I purchased my home luckily from one of the good locations in Rock Hill, SC. Me and my husband have always wanted our own home. Our rent was about to go up again, we have animals so it's hard to find other options, my company had moved to a location further away, and I really wanted a place to start a family. I have bad credit from when I was younger and had my identity stolen by a family member. My husband has good credit but is self employed. I found that I could get approved at Clayton. We came in and filled out an application. I saw two models before making a decision. We found out we only qualified for enough to buy the home and we had no land. The lady put us in contact with a man who works to sell land through a loan they create so our credit didn't matter.

We found a one acre piece in the middle of nowhere already developed and signed for it. Clayton did take a check as a deposit from us before we signed for the house but they didn't cash it. We were waiting in the loan to go through. There were some hoops with the loan because my husband was self employed but in the end the entire process took two months. We closed on the house in March and by April it had been delivered. The home we bought came with dry wall in some of the rooms. It wasn't an option to get it in other areas but our sales associate called to ask anyway and got it for us.

After we moved in we had some issues. We had the faucet head come off because the water pressure was too high, they replaced it. Our door wasn't properly aligned in the beginning, they fixed it. Our key didn't work, they gave us a master key to use until they replaced it. Our toilet seat broke because it's made with the cheapest material, they fixed it. Our septic backed up, they came out made sure it wasn't the plumbing and then told us to contact the man that they had recommended to buy our land from and he came out and fixed it. The issue was our pipe had been pushed out of alignment with the septic hole and it only had a small space to drain. This was all for free no hassle, no heavy paper work, just a simple phone call.

Our one year warranty just ended with them and I'm having issues with my fridge which technically falls under the manufacturer anyways but I called them to see what they recommended and were able to check that I had the extended warranty and provided me the contact information and told me to call back if I had any issues. They have been so nice and helpful. The only con to purchasing from them is the high interest rate and it's hard to get manufacturing homes refinanced. That's it. Since this is going to be our forever home though, the high interest while annoying isn't one I'm worried about for getting a return on my investment.

For the last 6 years, we have happily rented a home while raising our family and working to repair credit. Recently our home was sold and because we were on a month to month, our new landlord decided he wanted use of the property. Meaning we have to move. Renting another home in the Denver area is not an option because the market is crazy. We simply can't afford it. Buying is our only option, but with OK credit and a minimal down payment, my husband and I decided to look into buying a mobile home. The idea of living in a brand new home that we could create from scratch was very appealing. We barely made it past the application process before I backed out.

I could tell from the start that the sales team and management at Clayton Homes of Denver was out to screw us. It started out with them taking a deposit check from us that they weren't supposed to cash until the paperwork was final. Several times the salesman stated the check was a good faith gesture to show the finance company we were serious. The check would be held and not cashed until the sale was completed. 2 days later they cashed that checked. I immediately demanded my money back and was denied. My request was brushed off completely. The salesman simply stated that "corporate office" asked them to cash all held checks and if we didn't go through with the purchase, all money was refundable. We decided at that point to do more research on Clayton and needless to say, we weren't impressed with what we found.

Over the next several days we made many more attempts to contact the salesman and GM about our money. No answers and no returned calls. I finally found a number for an organization equivalent to the BBB specifically for mobile homes. 24 hours after contacting them, my money was returned. Not refunded to my account, but in the form of a check. I also found out that in 1996 the state of Colorado passed a law to protect mobile home buyers because Clayton Homes was waiting 3 and sometimes 4 months to deliver homes while still charging mortgage payments. So the law prevents companies from collecting before mobile homes are delivered and setup completely. I'm lucky to have gotten away but I'm sick that this company on a daily basis, robs families of everything. Money, home, quality of life. Shame on you Clayton Homes.

We bought our home from Clayton Homes at the end of 2014. We had ours built custom and was initially very happy with the house. As anyone, we were extremely happy to live in a brand new home! For the most part we love our home. I have to admit, I really wish the cupboards were better quality. For the amount of money we put down and the amount of money we are going to pay, I am very disappointed in the quality. Cheap pressed wood with stain colored sticker covering. Same with the indoor trimming. The paint on the inside is a little thin too. I've already had to do touch ups but Clayton Homes has provided the leftover paint.

I absolutely love my granite counters. They did a wonderful job finding the right granite. I love the colors we picked out. Matches all of my furniture to the T! I love the look of the outside of the house as well and the skirting around the bottom. They made it look like a stick built home on a concrete foundation. The maintenance guy has come out a few times for little things like settling cracks and floor squeaking which is normal for the settling in the first few months. He was wonderful at fixing everything.

The ladies at the Clayton Homes office on Austin hwy have been absolutely amazing! They have gone above and beyond with everything through the whole process! They have helped our dreams come true and am very grateful for them. I would definitely buy another Home from Clayton Homes with upgraded cupboards and indoor trim. The floor in front of my door and by my laundry room makes sounds like it is going to fall through at any moment when you walk across it. The GE stove that came in the mobile home always got too hot and would burn food even on a low setting. The burner went out twice and I paid to have it repaired twice. I finally bought a new one last year when it finally quit working. I have had to replace the thermostat, the microwave has had to have a new "brain" and my dishwasher is so cheap that all the prongs on the bottom rack have burned off within the first year and my water is not even turned up high! I am so disgusted with this home that the thought of having to pay the rest of the $40,000.00 loan for the upgraded single wide piece of junk makes me nauseous.

I had to replace all of the faucets in my home because the one in my son's bathroom burst and sprayed everywhere! My fiance and I are hard working people with blue collar jobs who decided to buy a brand new mobile home to try and avoid these problems at least until the home had some age on it, anyway! At 5 years old my home is literally falling apart! I am afraid of what my home will look like in 5 more years... I know I will be living on the street by then because at least it will be safer! Vanderbilt Mortgage owns the home until it is paid off and I can tell you now that they do not care about the customers, they only want that payment!

Vanderbilt Mortgage Company is the greediest bunch of low life scum on the planet and I am not paying one more dime out of my pocket to pay for repairs I did not cause! My insurance company said that I should have installed gutters to stop the seal from leaking and causing mold... that is the biggest load of b.s. and they know it! I would like to know how they expected me to keep my roof from becoming a skateboard ramp??? Manufacturing companies need to be held accountable for making faulty products that are ridiculously overpriced and falling apart... and mortgage companies need to realize that it is their responsibility also to help make sure that the products that they own until paid off need to be repaired and they need to take action as well.

My wife and I purchased a Clayton Home in Summer of 2009 and it's been a complete nightmare and money sink. Since my wife wanted specific options, the home had to be manufactured for us instead of taking one "off the lot". This was done at the Fayetteville, NC manufacturing plant, according to our documentation.

When the home arrived and installed in the manufactured home lot, problems immediately became apparent. Over the next three to six months, we had to constantly call Clayton to come out and address a myriad of problems, big and small, while under warranty. Here's but a short list of SOME of the issues the supposedly finished home had upon receipt:

    - Multiple electrical outlets were installed but not connected.
    - Bathroom plumbing fixtures (including both toilets) leaked uncontrollably.
    - Decorative moulding wasn't installed in the living room/kitchen area.
    - Both outdoor light switch fixtures were installed upside down (down: on; up: off).
    - The living room carpet was not nailed down where it met the kitchen or front bathroom vinyl flooring.

    - Two windows were left only partially sealed.

After four months, further calls for issues to be addressed were outright ignored. For the remainder of the warranty year, we were constantly shuffled around various offices as Clayton deflected addressing other shoddy manufacturing issues. Two months after the one year warranty expired, two of our kitchen GFCI outlets stopped working, requiring a visit from an electrician. The electrician found significant water penetration coming in from the vinyl siding and roof. Also that year, we had to fully charge the coolant in our air conditioner system. The HVAC technician said it was likely they simply never fully charged the unit upon installation, a problem the technician said he had seen before.

In the second year, we once again had no coolant charge in our AC unit. The same HVAC technician was called and he ran a series of tests only to discover there was a significant leak (or leaks) in the system. This required us to completely replace the air conditioner's a-coil. Also in that year, our GE freezer's ice maker completely ceased working and the GE dishwasher's impeller motor broke.

Year three was the year of mold in the windows and spending months trying to determine how widespread the mold had become. It's now been five years since purchase we've had to put another $7k of repair money - well over a tenth of the price of the single wide we purchased - into the home. Clayton bailed on their warranty responsibility and left us holding the bag. If anyone is considering a Clayton Home, don't waste your money. Look into other options first. A neighbor bought a Fleetwood Home 6 months after we bought our Clayton and they haven't had a single issue outside of a problem with the contract home installers running over their lot's water pipe. Clayton sells garbage that's engineered to break after their one year limited warranty expires.

We bought a Clayton home a year and a half ago. It was a huge purchase for us. We put our property up as collateral. We have had so many issues. The trailer is actually not level. The skirting is 7" short in spots. The walls are dinged. The cabinets are coming apart. The doors won't stay open. The carpet has pieces of wood or some kind of lumps of trash under it, so bad you feel it under your feet when you walk over it. Window leaking. Shower door not closing and causing leaking. Trim coming off around the doors. We called and called during our first year under warranty. They would take weeks to come out, and then offered us quick fixes that are not holding up.

I feel like my home is falling apart before my eyes, and we have run out of warranty. They ignore calls. Never call back. I'm so upset. I would like to sue them for the cost of this monstrosity that I will have to forever repair! Is that possible? I'm really just done dealing with these rude people. The salesman told us trailers are not like they use to be, that old junk is a thing of the past. One or our last phone calls we were told, "You bought a trailer, what do you expect?" SERIOUSLY? I expect $80,000.00 to buy me something that won't fall to pieces in one year.

Clayton homes are a prefab cheapest quality material they can find. I ask for the vents to be as close to the walls as possible but they did not do that cause it is all figured up to run in a straight line. I also had 2 extra windows install: 1 in the hall & 1 in the bathroom... I was told they had 3 people that performed quality checks.

Well they left the window out of the bathroom, all 3 missed it. Then when they came & installed it they put a small window in for the same price as the big window in the hall. So I had them redo it. The toilets, Tubs are the cheapest they could get.

Once they deliver the trailer, they apparently don't check the plumbing because I had water running out of the pipes inside the walls due to connections being loose. Also my itemized list for the trailer said no entertainment center in the master bedroom but there is one. Again all 3 inspectors missed that part too. If you try to go with more than 3 color schemes they want to charge extra. They can't promise to cut the linoleum floor & go from wood grain to tile look & keep the joints butted up so that there is only a small strip covering where they join.

They have never contacted me to see what I thought about the workmanship or the quality of the trailer. They piece together the molding when one 8' piece would have looked better there may be 2 or 3 pieces covering an 8' section. They are trying to use every scrap they can to save. Then most of the molding will pop loose due it is no even nailed to a stud... It proves they really don't care, it is based on how many they can produce & sale as quick as possible. It is a never ending job fixing things that keep popping loose.

One of the bathrooms had to be redone entirely within weeks of moving in because a pipe behind the wall and been installed incorrectly and burst, leaking under the floor and into the crawl space, destroying some ornaments. The kitchen sink and all the fixtures are cheap plastic. In fact, the sink was scratched before we even moved in. The caulking around bathrooms sinks is brown, looking like a children's crayon did it. The wood flooring is also cheap. The master bedroom window was installed incorrectly and had to be redone. It took months to get that resolved. The roof has already had to be repaired. The front porch gathers mounds of water, which is in turn very unsafe in icy weather. I could go on and on. It actually appears that the home was dropped, however the sales manager swears that is not the case. Neighbors have told us they moved it in and were gone in about an hour. The entire master bath is shambles, major ceiling cracks, broken vinyl, siding, missing furniture are just a few of the issues. We were also suppose to have a gas range, a/c and door installed between master bedroom and bath. None have been addressed. We have been told the weather prohibited repairs... I understand that for the outside but not the inside. Communication is almost non-existent. It is my understanding that Clayton is now owned by Berkshire Hathaway... We are involved in a legal claim against Clayton Homes. We've had 6 vents on our roof leaking. Our 1st reported leak was 5 days into our custom built home. They supposedly fixed the problem. It has only progressively gotten worse. Our mold inspector & every contractor or roofer we speak to says it's a manufacturing issue. Homeowners insurance won't do anything. They & Vanderbilt are owned by the same company that owns Clayton Homes. We have 4 molds & 3 are toxic, including stachybotrys (black toxic mold) resulting in all 5 family members & animals being very ill. One animal has passed. We've lost everything we own due to the mycotoxins of the stachybotrys.

Clayton Homes is claiming it's our fault because homeowners are to caulk their vents yearly & claim it's in the manual. It in fact is not in the manual. The only reason there are no class action lawsuits despite over a dozen websites of Clayton Homes manufacturing problems is that they have you sign an arbitration clause upon closing. I strongly urge any persons with manufacturing issues to contact a lawyer immediately. There are time frame laws concerning manufacturing problems. This is a rotten company that preys off of the working middle to lower middle class in hopes to become richer at the cost of people's lives. This has got to stop! People's health are being affected by their poor standards.

After paperwork signed my trailer was moved to the lot where I would be living. It was winter time. It took them 2 weeks to put my skirting on. Plus who ever hooked up my water to the toilet had it backwards. Hot water was coming out of the toilet. Also took 2 weeks to fix. Lived in my home 3 years, I came into some financial problems. Fell behind on my payments. When I call the loan company that I was financed through to get a deferment I was told that they do not give those and that I was informed incorrectly. The mobile home my son bought brand new almost two years ago is so cheaply made that it is falling apart. Everything in it is some sort of plastic stuff. The sink drains to the faucets, the trim on the walls, the counter tops and trim, the cabinets, the list goes on. The cabinet doors are pushed on these tabs. No matter how gently you close them, they fall off. The stain on the kitchen doors is coming off and bubbling up. The trim around the counter top has popped off, the trim on the walls is popping off, the vents in the floor are plastic. Three of them are broke. They put the vents where you have to walk on them.

The appliances are a joke. I didn't know they even made cheap stuff like it! The linoleum in the kitchen is bubbly and thin. They tore a place in it when they put it down and rubbed some glue on it. The carpet is a joke. It is the cheapest thinnest thing I have ever seen, there is no padding under it??? The front door is crooked, has been from the start. The list just goes on and on. How do these even pass inspection? The state came out to inspect everything else. Why don't they inspect these fall apart homes???

We kept calling Clayton, they sent this guy out to fix the molding around the bar that popped off. He put glue on it and before he got out of the driveway it popped off. He left glue all over the counter top to boot! I don't even want to tell you about Vanderbilt. They are crooks too... The same as all of the rest of you on this page except he has never missed a payment, but they raised his payment because of their mistake on paying the taxes (first year they paid out of escrow to the right county but the second year they said they sent it to the neighboring county). Now who's fault is that?

They are trying to make him keep their insurance company too! I for one am turning them into BBB, our congressman and whoever else I can come up with. I might even go up to Clayton and picket them... I will be looking into this some more. I wish my son had told me sooner. I will be updating so please come and look again...

As a single, sole supporting parent without the best credit record, this was the most affordable, and basically, the only option for me in providing a home for my daughter. I've got less than 3k to pay on this overpriced (30k) heap of junk and I'm left with soft floors that I'm sure to fall through at any moment, a kitchen ceiling through which rain will sometimes just pour, and numerous other issues. These people prey on the working poor. I've dumped everything I earn into keeping a house and an automobile and have nothing to show for it but a decaying heap as far as the home is concerned, which I am forced to live in for lack of available funds to make improvements or purchase a better home. I know how it is to be forced into this option, but if you have any other possibilities, I'd steer clear of buying a mobile home.

The first winter we experienced that the windows sweat terribly bad leaving mildew and mold. We have had to replace the hot water heater due to leaks that had rusted and pitted the pipes. We have multiple electrical issues. The carpet has worn holes around the front door due to poor grade carpet. And now in 2014 a new neighbor bought the surrounding property and instantly started threatening to close the only access to both properties, the only access to my property period. Threatened to shoot me for leaving my home or trying to come home. For almost a year this has been going on. I called the local sheriff department several times and was told it is his property and he can do what he wants. Then I find out Clayton homes did not file legal implied easement so I have been blocked onto my property at times, locked out at other times. Emergency help, fire ambulance etc has been blocked.

I have had to borrow 5000 dollars to hire an attorney to sue this man. I am disabled and handicapped. I have no money. So I have had to buy another easement for 2500 just to be able to leave my home. Now I have to build a road in a lot of sand. It is going to cost me thousands more dollars to do that. Clayton homes did pay to have the new easement surveyed, I thank them for that. But I am scheduled to have a total knee replacement in September, my second one and I am having to delay it and suffer in a lot of pain until I can get thousands of dollars to build a new road. So I can have this surgery and my home health workers can come and care for me. In all fairness Clayton homes should repay all of these horrendous expenses and build me a road since their assessor approved the implied easement and did not file it legally.

Ok I'm going to get up on my "Do the right thing and take responsibility if you make a mistake" Box. As you all know my home burned four years ago and I replaced it with a mobile home. Not just any mobile home but one that I had built from the factory and paid extra for upgrades to appliances and sinks and faucets, plywood floors and 2x6 walls, ceiling fans installed, etc. I even had the cable lines ran so I didn't have holes drilled in my floors or walls. Well, thanks to the good ears of a friend, she heard the constant drip of water and after further investigation we found that my hot water supply line to the master tub had began to leak then spray. All this is taking place under my tub which is closed in and not visible. Ok, so here goes the problem that I have with this whole thing. I understand leaks happen and I was blessed to have found it pretty soon BUT - what caused the problem is what has me chapped.

When they built my trailer they sat and fastened the wall in top of my hot water line and supply line. The normal shifting of the trailer rubbed a hole in the supply line, this was not good because you could not just put on a new supply line because the wall is sitting on the connection. Had to go without water for 4 days and then get a plumber to come out and fix. Thank you Joe ** for coming so fast and taking care of it. I called the place I bought my home (Luvs Homes in Bryant) and just wanted them to take help me get in touch with someone who could tell me exactly how I was to fix this (schematics of water lines) so I would know where to start looking for a solution. They said since I didn't buy the extended warranty then they could not help me. REALLY? I finally (about 8 phones calls, later wore them down) and got a phone number to the factory that built my home. It is located in Tennessee. I spoke to a girl there who said the service manager was on vacation and she would have him call me Monday, MONDAY, REALLY? I am livid by now as you can imagine.

I called her 4 more times and got her to have quality control to call me. Well, they didn't in a reasonable amount of time. So I called back and she finally found me the layout of my trailer which might've helped some if I built trailers for a living.OH MY GOSH! But at least she did try. Well quality control called me late yesterday afternoon and he said that accidents happens but he didn't see where it was their fault. REALLY? Wrong answer? I told him that 3 people caused this, the guy that laid the water lines down before the walls went up, the guy who set the wall on top of those lines but mostly it was quality control idiot who dropped the ball, they checked the work over and said HECK YEAH looks good boys send it out. (Yes it was visible from above the floor) before they put in the tub. I told him he had to be kidding me if he didn't think this was their fault and then told him I would be reporting this incident and their response to the BBB. And that the internet goes nationwide and I would be putting it on the complaint website for Clayton Homes.

Okay so now I've vented and I thank ya'll for listening. If you have any kind of construction done be diligent and look everywhere especially those places that may not be highly visible. I was blessed it messed up some of the insulation under my home and a little bit of the sheetrock under the tub and my charming personality for about 4 days just glad I was home, could've been a lot worse. The cost was fairly low $80.00 to fix but should've never happened.

Went under there and it was water that was filling it up, a pipe had come loose. Called Clayton Homes and they said to turn water off at the main and they will send somebody out. 2 days without water and they came and fixed it and we had to leave it open so the insulation could dry out. A year and a half later the walls in the kitchen and bath on the other side of the wall started to bow. When the fridge was hooked up the guy ran over the hose when he pushed it back. So water had leaked all that time getting absorbed in the walls.

Had to call Clayton and the guys came and had to change all the walls in the kitchen and bath. Had to use a different color (ugly green) because there wasn't any of our color. But aside of all the little things that were wrong, the biggest was the outside heater/air unit. When they set it up, it was on the wrong side of house so they had to move it. They laid the duct on the ground. After 6 years of pulling in the moisture our house smelled like mold and mildew. Nose burned, eyes watered, lungs hurt, had skin rashes. Called Clayton and nothing happened. So we replaced the duct, I am on allergy shots for 5 years and we are both taking allergy meds. We bought a new indoor furnace/air unit and got rid of the outside unit so we are not breathing humid, pollen filled outside air and the house is getting cleared of the mold smell. This is Florida! CLAYTON HOMES, has bad manufacturing that they and the owners and president of the company cares nothing about... Sales is all that matters to them... I complained to management about leaks around my windows and they put makeshift gutter covers on my front gutters. They didn't care to really fix the real problem which is the roof and screws, nails and staples left. They did not fix any true reason why it rains in my window. They left so many mistakes that caused my house to leak there and other places. They made so many manufacturing mistakes and don't fix them all or fix them right. Warped walls, glue on walls, floors and ceilings. Holes miscut in floors that let in mice and other pest. Miscut carpets and then mend them wrong. The people that set them up don't do their jobs right that cause more problems with these things to get worse and other problems to arise by themselves.

From day one...in Oct. 2006...there has been nothing but trouble. I take good care of my home - still smells brand new - but nothing I do helps. The tub in the small bathroom started sinking within a few months... to the point it finally cracked in less than a year. Glue from walls, and everything else that was glued, wiped on walls and surfaces. Walls pulling apart... carpet has never been stable... trim work left unfinished. Nothing level, nothing square... just extremely poor quality. Because of this house, I will never buy another home from anyone. Because of this house, I'll never be able to sell... No one in their right mind would buy it. If I were to sell it, I wouldn't get nowhere near what I even owe - much less what I paid.

I tell whoever is in the market to buy, to stay away from Clayton. This has been the worst decision...and I'm married to it for another 20 years. The home has already had to be re-leveled...and it sits on concrete. I'll have to replace my home... I don't see it lasting another five years... and I'll still be paying for it. Even when the people came after it was set, they didn't fix what was wrong; water leaks, twisted duct work... they only made a shoddy attempt. I have a well used, 12-yr-old tent that is more structurally sound.

We purchased our Clayton DW in 2008. The carpet is and has been for quite a while buckling up and looks as if it is 10-20 years old. Also, the screws in the flooring is coming loose and the floor squeaks when walked on. I agree these homes are quite expensive for the things that come with the home to not last any longer than they do. It is just my husband and me with very little other traffic. I love my home, but wish I didn't have to replace the carpet so soon.

My husband and I purchased a 2013 Giles double wide from Clayton Homes. It all started on the delivery, they had to get it off the lot by a certain date and we found out they pulled into a truck stop for two days so they could get paid! Then when delivering the home, they dropped half of the double wide the tongue came off and it hit the black top! There was a lot of cosmetic damage to the home and they came in and half fixed a few things but we still have a lot of issues out of it! All the flooring is bubbling up and the trim is off everywhere! We had three pages of things wrong that they refuse to fix! Not to mention we ordered all the doorways to be handicap doors because I take care of my aunt that's confined to a wheel chair and when we got the home there is three doorways she can't fit through, one being her escape route in case of a fire! We have gave them plenty of opportunities to fix things and make it good but still haven't got anywhere! I guess my next step I'm gonna hire a lawyer and make them replace this hunk of junk! We paid $95,000 for it. You would think it wouldn't have so many issues! When they dropped it, they should have replaced it then!!!!!

My wife and I bought a home from Clayton homes of South Boston, Va in July of 2013. We put a substantial down payment on the home that cannot be found by looking at the final figures to this day. When we question the manager at the closing, at that time he show us the figures, but we haven't seen those figures since. For some reason we didn't get that set of papers. The guy that notarized the papers wouldn't go over the papers with us, he refused. The home was discounted $16,000, but it doesn't show in the final figures. When we would call the office manager he was never there and wouldn't return our calls.. We thought something was wrong when we closed before they started working on setting up the home. Everything they said was included in the set up we had to pay again over and above our down payment. It came to an extra $6000.

Clayton's setup people cut an addition 1/2 acre of timber, which belongs to us without our permission and charged us for it. The lot was already cleared. They cut an extra driveway we didn't want or need, and they also took our timber with them. They charged us for digging a well that was inclusive, plus we had to pay the set up guy again also. We already had a well on the lot, so why did we have to pay for it again. They left all their trash and stuff left from the setup on the property. The manager kept asking for money from us for all his workers until I threaten to call HUD. Everything in the home along with the decor was promised to us but someone took a set of dishes before we moved in. Clayton haven't replaced them yet.

All the door knobs are bad, they have replaced most of them. We have a large picture window in the kitchen that is bad. They have been ordering it for 6 mos and nothing yet. The carpet looks as though it is 10 yrs old. The molding in the ceiling is cracking and doesn't line up with the corners. The plaster is coming out the ceiling, look like it may fall at any time. The floors creak when you walk on them. This was the worst experience I have ever had to deal with in buying a home. It was like a nightmare you could not wake from.

I am a disable veteran and when Clayton saw my bank account, they set out to get every dime. We were on to their deceptive dealings, but the manager wouldn't stop or give us credit for the money we'd paid. We did not want to lose our down payment, land (which belong to us), or the house, if we pull out of the contract. They do not refund your money.

I wish we had been given the option for wood cabinets and upgraded bathroom fixtures but we can live and replace these things. We are having a problem with the kitchen floor raided in a couple of places and screw heads showing through but I have been assured that these will not cause the linoleum to wear through and I have an open complaint if they do wear through. The one thing that bothers me the most is the carpet. We upgraded but this is the cheapest carpet ever. After one year it looks like it has been down 10 years. If we stay here we will have to replace. Other than the carpet we are happy with our home

In October 2006 I bought a manufactured home from a retailer in Virginia known as Wamplers Homes. My home is a Clayton Manufactured home and was built in Tennessee. After being in the home for about a year I started having issues where the walls started showing cracks, the molding was showing cracks, the heating system was not working properly. I continually tried reaching Wampler Homes to no avail. They said they would come out and fix the issues, but never did. They also told me Clayton homes wouldn't help me out. Now I find out they have closed.

My home is going on seven years old and I am continuing to have problems. I have had to install a new heating system, replace the bathroom flooring, plumbing issues, get a new refrigerator. The stove is not set even with the counter. The kitchen cabinet drawers are continually breaking. The sliding glass door screen has broken, and I have issues the glass door. The back screen door is broken. The kitchen tiles are starting to come up off of the floor. The Bay Windows are showing signs of cold air coming through them. Now the latest issue is I am finding that the roof is leaking as I see spots on my ceiling.

I feel this is not acceptable for a home that is ONLY 7 years old. I paid over $121k for this home and didn't expect to be putting this much money into it sevens years into owning it. The home came with appliances, etc.. I can't contact the retailer I bought it from since they are closed and I can't find where to contact Clayton homes as there are no numbers on my sales papers, just the retailer's contact numbers. I am so frustrated and stressed at everything that has gone wrong with this home. I am not sure if you can help or guide me as to what I should or can do next.

The double paned windows, black mold in every window in the house and now the back bedroom where furniture was up against the wall, black mold, all the closets black mold. Carpet started turning black, thought it was stain. Cut it, the cold air from outside was blowing underneath and there was black mold under it. Insurance says it won't cover it. I still owe $20,000. They said said the whole thing will have to be gutted. The carpet helps conceal that where the flooring and walls meet or not sealed. That's why the condensation build up and all the mold. I talked to another insurance agent in the same building where I work and they have had numerous complaints of people having black mold because Clayton also doesn't have proper ventilation. My home is barely 6 months old. I had it customized and it came to me straight out of the packaging. From day 1 (the walk-through), there were obvious problems which I think Clayton just assumed wouldn't be a "big deal to me". Most of these problems still have not been fixed. Repairmen cancel ALL THE TIME and when they do come out to fix a specific problem, they do not have the correct equipment, etc... and will tell me they will be back. The repairmen call and cancel appointments all the time. PROBLEMS FROM DAY 1: missing trim work, 2" gaps from doors to floor, the connection trim that joins the 2 sides of the house, the skylights have faulty wiring, warped vinyl siding, broken front door latch, foundation cracks everywhere, nails and staples exposed everywhere, window trim has gaps where trim joins one another, refrigerator had door flaps (butter storage place) missing.

Other problems that have arisen since purchase (and seriously new problems arise EVERY DAY): ALL the cabinets are peeling and have 'bubbling' (I was told I should have upgraded to the REAL wood cabinets. At the time of purchase this was not offered to me). My kitchen cabinets have warped, bubbled. The countertops are coming apart thus exposing the cork (the home is 6 months old and already there is a work order in to replace my kitchen countertops). And I don't know why but none of the interior of my closets are painted. I WILL PURSUE A CIVIL SUIT WITH ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO JOIN ME. I am disgusted. I am sent a tin of cookies on a monthly basis by Clayton Homes! I guess that is their way of trying to keep me satisfied and not report them! Ha-Ha! Wallpaper is wrinkled. Debris under the flooring - factory didn't even sweep the floor before laying rugs/floors. Cheap, cheap material - plastic faucets that leak, fridge makes humming noise, stove is just cheap period. I have gone through all the proper channels. The Maine Manufactured Housing Board reps showed up WITH the seller and manufacturer for my inspection.

No, I never got to invite them independently! To AG's office, only to be told several months later, "Oh, you contacted Housing board, case closed - contact Governor's office. But my biggest problem now. It started with a small waterfall inside my window seal on the inside of the house. Obviously my roof is leaking. I inspected the roof to see if I can find some damaged shingles but I didn't find any damage singles. But I did notice in multiple areas on the roof that was very spongy. I could probably put my foot through if I stepped hard on it. Then I noticed how wavy the roof is you can see where all the joists is. This roof is sagging in! Moisture is passing through the shingles into the plywood with its 1/2 OSB paneling that stuff is not load bearing. I can't believe they used it on the roof. Any moisture gets to OSB it will fall apart! Overall I need to spend a lot of money to do it right with plywood and something better than 10 year shingles. Clayton builds these homes with the cheapest material so they can make a big profit. Almost disposable homes they build I would like to think.

The Clayton headquarters never got back to me once. So for years now I have fixed things as they occurred. This year I decided to go ahead and tear out the whole underside of the home down to the floor. Now I see why we have had so many problems. The wiring looks like Mickey Mouse did it, exposed wires, pitiful splicing, total junk throughout. The ductwork for the heat and air is worse, seams not sealed, mashed areas, gaps everywhere. I found empty beer and soda cans throughout the underbelly where the workers just tossed them down any hole that was open. Floor cut-outs were just allowed to drop into the belly. Now I see the Duck Dynasty guys have signed on. I wonder if they know how these homes are really built? I would like to get a class action suit going. I purchased my home from Clayton Homes of Lancaster, SC in May 2012. Immediately upon walkthrough, the fire place was wrong and they never replaced so I had to paint it. The carpet was pulling away from the walls. After 3 visits, nothing. They never fixed the problem, so I had hardwood floors put in because the carpet looked like crap. The walls in the house are crooked and the sheet rock all through the house looks like crap with the joint tape pulling away, holes in the walls and nail pops everywhere. Well they made me an offer on the sheet rock for $1,300. I had three estimates with all 3 being in excess of $2,800-$3,200.

My cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms are chipping and you can see glue and staple marks all in the joints and side walls of the cabinets. Keep in mind, my cabinets are supposed to be a flat mocha color. Well they sent their yard guy Eric out. He brought some old English stain with a shine to it, poured it on an old shirt and wiped down all my cabinets. So now I have shiny and dull cabinets that completely look like crap.

There were two toilet drops and 3 sink drops never hooked up under my house. So for a year, sewage drained under my house. After sewage backed up into my showers, sinks and bathtubs, did they come out and fix a loose pipe? Not the problem, still backing up. So after several calls and a few more weeks of sewage draining under my house, they sent a plumber out. He did eventually get it fixed. He said it was a mess and sewage was standing on the low side under my house, a foot deep. He needed a pump truck to pump it out.

Last but not least, my yard looks like crap. I have no positive drainage and when it rains, my yard is a pond. Well they fired the original guy who did the clearing, septic tank and drain fill which is sinking. I can see my septic tank because the dirt around it has caved In. Well they got their new guy to come out and look at the yard. Well the gentleman stood in my yard and said it is destroyed and would cost them a lot of money to fix it. Not to mention all the money I have in grass and straw. Well after all that, I was told to file a consumer complaint with the state and haven't heard from them since.

Bad thing is I know of 5 more people with similar problems and no attempt by Clayton Homes of Lancaster, SC. Steve, who is the manager and was rude with my wife, hung up on her. Then there is Bob the salesman who is a yes man and never does what he said. Eric, the yard boy, who does not know what he is doing. So I would definitely not recommend them to even my worst enemy. You will get shafted. That is a fact. Oh and if you try to call corporate, they won't return your calls. But it's okay. If the state doesn't do the right thing, then I will hire an attorney and get a class action lawsuit going because I know for a fact there are many, many more out there that would be on board. Thanks for listening!

I bought an Oakwood Home in 2002, and put it in a manufactured park. But ever since the market crashed, I have been underwater and nothing to do about it. I found out that Clayton Homes would do a trade in on my home for a new home and some land. We went down there, did the credit check - of course it was with Vanderbilt mortgage whom I have been with for the last 10 years - and they denied me. They said my credit was not good enough, although they had a sign saying credit of 600, no problem. So they had another mortgage company we tried and I was approved for $210K, said my credit was awesome.

So we already had found some land and told them to see if I can get it. What the deal is that Clayton would buy the land, have my home as a trade-in, carry over the $20K I was underwater on, and put a module home on the land. In order for the land home package to be done, it had to appraise for what I was approved for - $200K. I called Clayton once a week to see how things were going. I got the runaround that we are working on it. After a month with no progress, I found out the property was sold underneath me. I told them and all they can say is it was their fault and they dropped the ball.

After them taking their sweet time, I decided to go out to palm harbor homes and do the same thing. It only took them 2 days to tell me they can't do it because I was too far underwater. Okay cool, at least you didn't wait a month to tell me. Well a month went by and we found some more property. So we decided to go back to Clayton Homes and try it once more. This time I told them we need to hurry because I don't want to lose this one. This time they were on the ball. They came by to my old home and took pictures and said things look good.

The whole time they told me things were looking good and it should push through. After he took pictures, they told me they will call in a couple of days. 3 days went by, no call. So I called them. They hee-hawed around and told me the answer was no. I said why? He said the short answer was that my space rent in the park was too high and they couldn't sell my home after they purchased it. So although I was already approved for the loan, they didn't want to do it as they couldn't sell the home after everything was said and done.

We bought our Clayton in 1995 brand new. We live in rural West Virginia and by the looks of the siding when home was delivered, I thought they had back roaded the home to the site. We did our walk through and noted the things that need to be replaced or repaired. We had 1 sheet of drywall that needed to be replaced due to leak from the siding. After being jerked around for a couple of months, we were told that Clayton no longer uses that drywall and they couldn't get it so it was never replaced. From our first walk through, we reported that at least half the windows were sticking and hard to open. The repairman came out and beat on the window frame with a hammer. This did not fix it.

The repairman said they would have to order new windows from Clayton. So I am thinking, okay at least this problem will be fixed. I have the repairman’s cell phone number. So I call him and he says that the work order has been turned in and they are waiting for the windows to come in. Well, in the amount of time that I was being jerked around, the warranty had expired but I am thinking this problem was reported before the warranty had expired so it will be fixed. I don’t have the patience to be jerked around too long, so I go to the dealer that sold us the home, I asked him how much longer do we have to wait for these windows to come in from Clayton. He said, “Let me check,” and walked out of the office.

He came back a few minutes later with a folder, started looking though the papers in the folder and said there was no complaint that was ever filed on the windows and no work order was ever turned in. He also told me that the warranty has expired and nothing could be done about the windows. After all the ** that I had to put up with from day 1 of buying this house, I had to walk out or this was going to get ugly. So document any work needed done and make sure you get copies of everything. My house is now paid off but the problems I am having now is the wiring on this house. My heater has quit on me more than once due to (in my opinion) the proper wires not being used to wire up the heater.

The wires coming from the breakers in the heating unit have fried 3 times in the past couple of years and what I find strange is the fact that there are 2 breakers in the heating unit and 2 breakers in the breaker box. It did not flip the breakers. They just melt the insulation off the wires and short out (which should flip a breaker but hasn't). Next, I have 2 lights in my kitchen. One of them started flickering so I took the fixture down. There were exposed wires in the fixture and they were shorting out. So after fixing the wiring, I replaced the 2 light fixtures and they work fine now (this is another thing that should have flipped the breakers in the breaker box and didn't). I think Mickey Mouse and friends did the wiring on this house.

I bought new 14x80 on the 1st of July 2012, paid for linoleum in the living room to replace the carpet and paid for skirting to be added after we moved to our home site. I had two weeks to do this work while we readied the site. When the mobile home arrived two weeks later, the mover backed into the dirt bank (we think) bending rear separator (holds frame rails together), but said it would not hurt anything. I opened the front door to find that carpet had not been replaced and noted that the first 12-14ft of vinyl siding on the front of the home had come loose and could not be re-zipped back into place. First, the wall panel in the guest bedroom had pulled loose directly behind the loose siding and/or behind the bedroom door. This all indicated a severe turn or twisting of the home during the move. At any rate, all this was brought to the attention of the seller.

After water was ran to the home, about a week later, I noted a pouch under the home that reached almost to the ground. I stuck a knife blade in it and out ran about three or four gallons of water. There must be a leak somewhere. I called the seller who sent a "crew" down the next day to fix the leak. The crew slit the black vinyl under the home, about 2x2 feet and commenced to look for a leak. He checked the water heater, guest bath, sink and commode, but could not find a leak. He said everything back toward the living room appeared dry. He sealed the 2x2 feet opening with white tape, did not look like the proper type of tape. The white tape attracted two of my dogs, who decided to inspect what was there for themselves, pulling the tape off, but it did give me a chance to note that there was still water leaking out the hole.

Now we have been waiting about three weeks for a "crew" to replace the bad vinyl siding and over a week for a "crew" to install skirting (already paid for), but I haven't seen or heard anything out of either party. There are other problems, which I sent a list of to the seller, but that is not the point. We've spent good money to bring this thing here and if it had been a car, it would definitely be on the lemon list and I might have some recourse. By the way, we have not moved into the home despite the fact that it's been on site for 27 days, today. I already paid a note and another will be due in a couple of weeks.

Whatever happened to American workmanship and workers' pride? I guess it went to China, along with all other money and values. Oh, I did write a letter to Clayton last week, but no one has bothered to respond despite their claim that someone would email or call within one to two days.

I would not recommend this place to any of my friends. We bought our mobile home from them just 6 months ago and the roof is leaking. Our ceiling is caving in from all of the water and is about to fall through. When the maintenance man came to look at it to make sure it actually was a leak, insinuating that we can't tell that it's a leak ourselves, he poked 2 holes in the ceiling with his finger. At that time I thought, "Great, now what if it rains again? It is going to drip into the carpet." He told me that someone would be by first thing the next morning to come and fix the roof to try to see if we can get the water to stop leaking in. I asked, "What if it's not reparable?" He replied, "Oh it's definitely reparable." So my question is if it's definitely repairable, then why are they trying to see if they can get it to stop leaking through?

So the next morning, my boyfriend stayed home from work (an inconvenience to him) so that he can be here when they come to fix the roof. We got awaken by a hard storm and the first thing I thought was "Oh crap, the ceiling." We ran to check it and just as we thought, it was dripping into the carpet. We first put a pot under it, but then it was dripping so much that the pot would have been full in no time so we had to take our trash can and put it under it. We sat here waiting for the people to show up to fix the roof. They were supposed to be here at 9AM. Then at about 8:45, they called us and said that they can't come today because of the rain. So we're sitting here having to deal with a leaking roof and ceiling until they decide that they want to come out and fix it.

When my boyfriend tried to call the office at Clayton Homes on Clinton highway, they will not answer the phone. We have the cell phone number of the guy who sold us the trailer and he will not answer the phone either. When I tried to call them to tell them about the problem in the first place, I called the guy 3 times. He didn't answer so I left a message. This was around 8:30AM and then around 11AM, I called back and he finally answered. He said he just now got my message 3 hours later. I had to call him back when after he got my message, he should have been the one to call me. The people here act like it's not their top priority to fix a problem when there is one. Their top priority here is just to sell the home then once it's sold, they don't care about you or what happens to the trailer.

We had some problems right after we bought it too. Our kitchen sink didn't work right. When you'd turn the handle, nothing came out. Sometimes it took ten minutes of sitting there with the handle on before anything would come out. Also when we bought the trailer, it didn't have deadbolt locks and we told them that we would like to have deadbolt locks put on. They said that was no problem. Well when they finally got the trailer ready for us to move into it, it still didn't have the deadbolt locks on it. So, they had to send someone out to do it. They had to put whole new doors on it and new doorknobs. The guys who were doing our new doors complained the whole time about how much they hate doing doorknobs and what a pain they are.

They literally complained the whole time. It was a hot day so I offered them something to drink and they had a specific request, Diet Mountain Dew. I didn't have Diet Mountain Dew so I offered them regular Mountain Dew or regular Coke or water. One said if I didn't have Diet Mountain Dew, he didn't want anything and the other took water. I don't know if they realize it or not, but my home is not a restaurant. I hope anyone thinking about buying a trailer from here will think twice before they do it.

We purchased our first "new" home in Feb 2007 and within months, had trouble with the windows holding moisture and mold forming around the window sills. I contacted the dealer where my home was purchased and was given the runaround and was told it is due to living in a damp area. After fighting with the manufacturer, I did receive new windows throughout the home. Soon after the windows were replaced, I noticed mold build up along the crease of where the wall meets the floor and the sheetrock was wet about 8 inches up from the floor. The manufacturer did send a crew to my home who replaced sheetrock but didn't fix the problem.

So now, after 7 yrs of having my home, I fight constantly with mold that causes my family severe allergy issues. Now my floor behind my stove is falling through from the moisture. It appears the issue is the overhang on the roof is not out far enough to stop water from leaking down the inside of the siding. After paying my monthly payment and utilities, I do not have the money to do major repairs. When I contacted the manufacturer the 3rd time, they told me I would have to turn it in on my homeowner's. I don't see how this is fair that I file a claim on my homeowner's which would raise my rates to fix a defective home when it was built. If these issues arose 7 yrs after having the home, it would be different but the problems started within the 1st year. This is definitely a manufacturer defect and is not the buyer's responsibility.

We bought a new manufactured home. We ordered many upgrades and specific changes which we paid the difference. We went over our upgrades and requests many weeks to make sure we all understood what was being ordered. Our home was delivered to the sales lot on April 18, 2012. We asked to be able to look it over before they delivered it to our location. We went to make sure the major changes were as ordered - they were not.

The salesperson called the plant, and the general manager of the plant met us to go over our concerns. We were told "that it doesn't come that way" and we said that is not what the model showed and that was our only sample. When we asked to see an upgrade that was offered, there was none to be seen anywhere. So we took their word that it would be what we wanted. We were asked to pay more money to have the changes made and we refused because we were not told that it would be any extra at the time it was ordered.

Since the home has been delivered to our location, we have found more problems in electrical work. The air conditioner does not work, the plumbing was not correct, fireplace mantel is not installed correctly, and the wrong stove was delivered - we requested gas, and electric was installed. That means they had to break the seal under the home to run another line for gas. The microwave was damaged and their fix to that was to put a screw in it. The incorrect shower was installed. The furnace was not installed far enough back into the closet because the door does not close. There is not a main water shut off inside the house, which was an extra cost.

Corian was ordered at an additional cost of $8,000 and was not correctly installed. Some of the light fixtures do not work anything. We had to pay extra for shutters and did not get all of them. Now, we are told that they don't install any on that window but we did not get a refund. I talked again to the general manager today, 6/1/12, and he told me that it wasn't a million dollar home so that is the way it is! Really, safety is required for all homes, manufactured or not! We still haven't moved into the house and are waiting for the major things to be fixed. I am checking the box to not have an attorney, but we may want to have one if our home is not fixed correctly.

The Bryant A/C/H unit is a self contained unit(no outside unit). Everything is in the same metal enclosure, but separated, and the outdoor air coils have an air intake located under the home. There should have been a duct built with a screen or grille to channel the outside air to the outside air intake and to the coils. But there was none installed. They put a skirting on that just allowed air under the home. All the dirt, lint, pet hair and pollen in the air over time would plug up the outdoor air coils. The dirt plugged the drain on the outdoor air side which you can't see and it allowed water to spill out on the flow and warped the floor. The unit leans 3 inches at the top and at times it touches the wall and rattles.

I noticed that at times during the heat of the day, the temp in the living room and kitchen gets up to over 90 degrees. This is after I added 3 window units to help cool the crippled main unit. I bought an infrared temperature monitor and there are lot of places in the house where the ceiling and walls read the same temp as the outside air. There's very poor insulation.

Also the home has a metal roof that ripples when the wind blows and it vibrates the home. This has caused the insulation to settle. I doubt if there is any insulation in places. There's no way the main unit if it was in good working order would cool the house. This is also a problem in the winter, the house is so cold. With no insulation in places, the ceiling and walls read what the outside air reads.

One of the first things they told me when I was looking at homes, is they use marine plywood or equivalent wherever there is water, such as toilet, sink, tub, dishwasher and cloths washer. Well after 13 years, the seal went out on the dishwasher. It soaked the kitchen floor from the stove to the refrigerator.

These are not warranty issues. They are defects caused by poor design and installation. My wife and I have suffered long enough. Please help us asap.

They sent out a friend, had it fixed and said they would return to fix the opening they got under the house with (still not done). Why are they so sloppy and neglect their customers to such point of not caring on their part? This needs to be corrected since I am a widow and cannot do these things on my own! I was told that whoever installed the rugs the first time did not know what they were doing. The second contractor did a nice job. But we now have had the problem for over a year and to top that off, we have a roof that leaks. I know that if I call, they will tell me that there is nothing they can do.

So, since that is the issue, I will go to the Attorney General, Consumer Affairs, my senator, and the press and see what kind of results I can get from them. It is sad to say that William ** is a ** since he doesn't seem to care about the company he owns. But maybe the press can help him wake up and smell the coffee.

They never put the underlayment until several months later after the continious complaints of all the open holes that allowed vermin into the mobile. The holes were never sealed around all the pipes under the mobile, this took several repair orders and distress on my family, the mice basically took over the home. The heating unit went out after 2 months, which was repaired. All of the cabinets were pilling after a few months. The drywall, 3/8 in was cracking throughout the house, the bathroom wall has mold on it, the roofing was loose shingles, the siding started coming off, the doors do not seal, the back door holds water and is rusting, the laminate flooring is coming up, the over all poor quality makes this mobile home a no go.

Multiple reapair calls were made and multiple men were sent out to do a half crap job. Frankly, these mobile homes are junk. They won't even last a year, regardless of how clean and careful you are, the mobile will fall apart inless than a year. When you call, it takes weeks on end to get a response and the time lapse causes the 1 year warranty to end. They use the cheapest and the worst workmanship I've ever seen. Basically, I just would hate to see others watse so much money and time on a Clayton Mobile Home. It's basically my loss for not doing proper research on the company and it's product. It's my loss for not noticing that they never put the underlayment and did not seal the openings around water pipes, furnance ducts, etc. properly.

I have had nothing but problems with the mobile from day 1 and when they come out to repair something, they only do part of the repairs or only do a quick fix and have to come out more than 3 times for the same issue. It's really pathetic how horrible the mobile homes are by Clayton Homes. They should be ashamed for selling crap to people and pishing the buck to others and not repairing faulty items properly. There is No pride with this company.

I purchased a home from Clayton Manufactured Homes in Monroe, LA. I was in the home for a couple of years when I noticed black mold growing on several walls. I contacted the local office on numerous occasions, and finally they sent a rep out to look at the damage after trying to convince me that the damage was from things I had not done. Their rep came and took pictures, and told me that it was a manufacturing error and he would contact the national office. This was in August of 2009. After months of calling and getting the runaround, I was put in contact with Mr. ** at the national office.

In February of 2010, he sent a crew to fix the damage. They replaced siding and installed a drip guard which had never been installed, which is where the problem originated. In replacing the siding, the contractors tried to cover over rotting wood with the new siding, and only replaced the wood when they were caught in the act.

As of now, July of 2010, large hunks of the replaced siding have come loose, and no one will return my calls. It took from February of 2010 until April of 2010 for someone to come and replace the damaged (moldy) sheet rock, and this was a half-done attempt. While replacing the sheet rock, they reported several electrical shorts to me, which of course they could not fix, but would report to the national office. So now I'm in slightly better shape, but still, much needs to be done, and nobody will return my calls. However, Vanderbilt Mortgage has increased the cost of my monthly notes! I've incurred loss of time from days lost working to observe workers. I am now experiencing substandard living conditions, and possible health concerns due to living with black mold for so long.

My son, Michael Mistriel, Jr, and myself, Star Ali Mistriel-Kogan, purchased a manufactured home from Clayton Homes of Las Vegas aa little over year ago,but only took possession of it in November, 2008. We primarily dealt with our design of the home, lot preparation, and getting the loan with Las Vegas Clayton Homes saleman Steven Ward. Throughout several months, we told him what we wanted, drew and labeled pictures, asked to make sure it was possible to do, before taking delivery of the home. There were many snags, as Mr. Ward, was not forthcoming on information in a timely manner, nor was the lot manager, Gene Hall. Our designed home, 50 X 32 feet had to have two feet taken off the end to fit the 60 x 100 foot lot and leave the required easements as we wanted it place long side to road for a nice home curb appeal. (As it turned out-Mr.Ward miscalculated by leaving out the eave's overhang and therefore caused a 60 day delay in moving in time). Throuhgout the process, my son and I were extremely clear about what we wanted, that if the home was in ground, there was no need for a deck or steps but if it was above ground, we wanted the steps (as designed and presented and a deck as presented) to be included in our loan with the home. Also, I wanted doors replaced that had no mental vents on them, a frosted master bath window in lieu of the clear, linen closet in master bath, 42" screen television above fireplace, french doors in master and second bedroom, door between second bedroom and bathroom. We were on a deadline as I am a school teacher and needed to have it ready to move in by the beginning of school, which never happened. My son and I both would telephone and leave messages for either Gene Hall or Steven Ward and never receive return messages, regarding our requests or concerns, so in a week to week and a half, either of us would physically drive to the lot at Clayton Homes and personally discuss our message. They (Mr.Ward/Mr.Hall, one or both) would assure us that something is being done/would be done. Another week or two passes. My son and I began signing in in the Clayton Home visitor registry book at the door with the date, our name, list of our concerns that was bringing us in. After a month, they tore out those pages from the book so others could not read about the problems we were experiencing with them. We expected to meet and sign with Mr.Ward for our loan with Vanderbilt Mortgage, but Mr.Hall was there alone. We were at that point under duress, between a rock and a hard place, as our old home was moved out (204 miles away) and we were homeless in the middle of summer in Las Vegas! Mr.Hall said he did not know about the deck we wanted nor steps, and the grass left uncleared on the "prepared lot" would just die and go away. "If you(we) didn't want the house, fine, we won't sign the papers today." We objected about the deck that somehow Mr.Ward neglected to put in to our loan and final papers, that we did not (after several attempts to get any paperwork about our new home via telephone call or in person up to that time) ever plan to NOT have them if the house was above ground level.
This constitutes deceit and fraud on the part of both Mr. Ward and Mr. Hall. After signing the loan documents in July, the home arrived at the Clayton Homes lot, upon which my son and I and Steven Ward did open and inspect, finding several cabinet and drywall problems, and exterior and interior paint overspray issues. Mr. Ward assured us these things "would be fixed before us moving in." They were not, and are still not, today, October 30th, 2009! The manufactured home was moved onto the 5526 E. Carey Avenue cleared property in August and sat for well over a month with nothing done. I returned from my stay in Northern Nevada to find that I had to rent a hotel room to live with the dog. After a few weeks and running out of money doing that, my next door neighbor asked me to stay until I could move into the new home. So, daily, I go to work, come back, nothing done. Mid September, I find out that I must contact and get a conditional use waiver signed by my adjoining neighbors because Mr.Ward did not take into considerations the code when altering the house to fit the lot. More waiting. Then the contractors that did the water line, pulled out my good copper water line and replaced it with a plastic one (which now leaks), which I requested be put back in or saved. They threw it into the yard and then someone stole it. The older home's outside stairs were stolen as well. I did make a police report per Mr.Hall's request, which later he asked me to lie to the insurance company to make the claim (in front of Mr.Ward). On November 1, 2008, we got a key to go in and out of the home, and was assured a walk through. The front door was defective. None of the keys provided to us worked on all the doors except one. So we bought new ones for all the doors at our expense. There was damages done inside the home prior to obtaining the key: workers threw around coils of electrical wiring and scratched the new kitchen counter, dryer, electrical panel plate and drywall. Colossial drywall cracks lined walls in several rooms, gashes in drywall from careless workers/workmanship, bumps under carpet, crack on new shower side and bottom, paint and glue overspray on walls, appliances, windows, fixtures, doors, throughout the home. We did not get our concrete front steps until after February 2009! We still have no concrete steps for the back patio, laundry, second bedroom, nor master bedrooms! NONE, just makeshift wooden temporary steps, not meant to last a year, let alone 30 years. Work yet to be done-the deck/steps, the replacement of the backdoor, front bedroom windows, trash removal of materials left by lot prep people (yes, it is still there in the same pile for a year now), refrigerator ice maker never worked (I have contacted GE). Upon the old home being moved out in July 2008, the company Clayton Homes contracted to prepare the lot, did not abate grass where the new home was to be placed--I have an ongoing issue with grass growing under this new home now. I have written and called and told them and have simply given up and tried to spray them although I have two bad knees.

Where do I start? Okay, let's talk about the lying, deceptive way that the people who work in this company do business. I owned a standard home for 10 years and sold it to move for my job. I rented for 4 years and was tired of giving people my money. Based on my credit, a modular home was the purchase that best fit my budget so I can repair my credit and move on. I called the folks at Clayton Homes first and made sure my credit was good enough to purchase a home. FHA gave us a cap and we were able to go shopping. We walked through 3 doubles. With a 17 and a 15 year old plus a dog, we wanted the 24x70, which we could not afford. We were able to get a 24x56, which we could work with.

We did the initial paperwork and paid off any FHA required collections on my credit. I borrowed $5,000 from my 401 K plan which was given as a down payment to get the deal rolling. We could not afford what they call a glamour bathroom, which was on the floor model we looked at. So, we agreed to a fixed shower stall and a window since we don't like baths and could live with this. We could not get a few other small items IE: microwave over the range, vertical blinds, etc. But the salesman told us that the rest of the home, as we looked at it, was what we would get (everything). The papers were drawn up, signed and we began this disaster in motion. Here is a list of events that happened.

Original salesman fired, so they brought a "ringer" into the deal who began to give us the ** story that the salesman was fired for not knowing what he was doing, and that she was brought in to fix it, yeah right! She promised us an AC unit and a storage shed not originally in the deal. I asked, specifically, about the type of bathroom that the master bedroom would get. And she told me that what was negotiated was what we were getting. I asked if she was sure and she told me she reviewed the "plans" and yes she was sure. We asked about the date to get in and we figured the end of June '09 (this meeting was in May 09).

A couple of days later, we got the first call that we call the "I am changing my mind" events. No shed now, AC is okay. (With formaldehyde in carpets and the summers time coming, could safety reason be why A/C was kept in the deal?) They told me no, but now they were lying and I can't trust what they were saying. This should have been a red flag, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Closing day: I went to sign papers against my wife's counsel, since I was signing for something that I have not seen yet. I wrote a group of questions and asked (the second time) about the master bathroom, because I wasn't signing anything unless I was assured that the bathroom was what I was getting. She assured me that we were, and I reluctantly signed the closing paperwork.

The house is on the wonderful corner lot in our park, and I was taking pictures, excited about the prospect of moving into our new home. I was looking through windows, and happened to be able to see through the master bedroom window, and guess what I saw? The same standard bathroom that is in the hallway that our kids and guest would use. So, I immediately called Clayton to tell them, and since we did not have a "certificate of occupancy", we would have to wait till the walk through for them to check the bathroom and write up the findings on the "inspection sheet".

Walk through day: in a nutshell, there was no ceiling fan as in the pictures I have taken of the floor model we were shown. There was no chandelier. There were no clothes rack in the washer and dryer area, and no bathroom. Plus, the driveway outside was destroyed when the footings were poured. My wife was furious. Then, Clayton homes said that the paperwork that we signed did not have these things written down so we were not getting any of it. Now, my wife does not want the home, and if she isn't going to be happy, then I do not either. The "ringer" told me that she would then take our keys and sell the house and my wife told them to do it.

The "big ringer", now the regional manager came into the picture, apologizing in every imaginable way to make this deal right. At this point, we have moved in because we could not stay in our rental any longer because they needed to rent the place. We were trapped and had no choice but to move in. So, Bill **, the "big ringer" for Clayton came to our home. He did a tick sheet of 20 things to include the chandelier and driveway repair, along with other things wrong with the house, but the master bathroom was not going to be done. Structurally, it could not. At one time he asked us if he wanted Fleetwood to build us a new home and I asked if it would be put in the spot that we were in and he told me no. So, that was not an option.

He asked us what Clayton could do to make the bathroom "mix-up" better, and how we can be happy with our home. I told him that we could not be happy because I would be paying for 15 years and showering in a bathroom I did not want. I did asked for a storage shed since we went from a 1,800 sq. ft. 2 car garage rental to this home. We need the storage area. They are going to give me $500 to do whatever I need to do for the home. They are not buying a shed. They are not fixing the bathroom.

The "under ringer" was sent to us to talk through everything because we refused to sign any more paperwork. This guy (Scott **) was the pleasant personality portion of this ** job of theirs. He was sent to sweeten us up and sign our lives away. You can probably guess how this part went. He promised to negotiate everything with Bill up to and including the shed. The end result, nothing more than the $500 promised and limbo on the shed. I won't even go there on their crappy appliances. The first chance I get to get these out of this house I will.

Consequences: Let's talk about the financial problems we incurred: 1. $541.90 rent for 11 days in our property; 2. 11 days of added utility bills for July; 3. $210.55 for the loss of the mover scheduled and my sons and my needing to rent a U-Haul and move ourselves. Our labor should be back charged to Clayton; 4. $55.00 month storage fee for our home goods (continuing); 5. $59.76 mini-blinds for the windows so we don't live like gypsies; 6. 11 days of phone and cable expenses; 7. $56,000 for a house that I have to live in, and look at, until it is paid for that we did not agree to; and 8. I won't even go with having to live with a woman that hates the home she is in, because if the woman of the house is unhappy, the whole house will be as well.

I have already had to replace the hot water heater and at that time I found out that the wireing needs replaced due to it being a fire hazard. I am a single mom of three children all under the age of 7. I live in fear that we will all be asleep one night and it will catch fire. My kids and I have suffered terrible Asthma attacks and nose bleeds from the black mold.I used my land that my parents gave me for the trailer purchase so if I leave the trailer I lose my land. I only want the deed back to my land they can have the trailer, I don't want it. I don't recommend anyone to purchase a home from them.
