We looked at other home manufacturers, and we really liked Clayton Homes' salesman. He seemed really honest and wasn’t pushy. We met the owner of the company. He seemed fair, guaranteed everything and gave us cellphone numbers if we got any problems. The home came in within two months, but we weren’t ready for it yet because it was the dead of winter. The salesman kept it on their lot, then when we were ready, they were there. They were more than accommodating and we never had to use a cellphone to call. We've been in the house for less than a year and the overall quality is good so far. I’m just very satisfied with them and with the owner. They got the home in when they said it would be and kept us informed of everything. It’s a worthwhile purchase so far and I would definitely recommend them.
That's wonderful to hear, Kevin! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're glad to hear you enjoyed working with your salesman and that you're happy with your home!

I was in a pinch on the house I was in. It was going to be sold out from underneath me by the landlord. I’ve seen Clayton's showroom and I stopped in there to talk to them. I met with one of their sales representatives and told him what I was looking for. He showed me a couple of models and I picked one out. I knew what I needed and what I wanted, so I made his job really easy. Everything was really good in the beginning when I was picking everything out but it seemed like once financing got through, I couldn’t get answers on when the home would be ready to go and the communication kinda broke down towards the end.
I called and left several messages but it took two or three days to get called back. But all in all, I was able to make it into the home when I needed to be in it. I’m a superintendent for a construction company so I struggled with the finishes and I didn’t like some of the vinyl-wrapped drywall. It seems like it was just glued to the walls and there were no screws or anything holding it in. All the joints have that bead on the seams instead of an actual tape joint, so all the beads have a tendency to peel away from the drywall. It also looks like all of the trim pieces are falling off. Other than that, the home is good quality for the price. Clayton is a pretty reputable company and they seem to sell homes pretty quickly.
We sincerely appreciate your feedback, David. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and thoughts with us. We're going to pass along your concerns with how communication seemed to fall off to the right parties and it will be used to help us better our processes! We're also going to forward the information you provided regarding the details of your house to your Home Building Facility as well. Thank you again for the positive review and feedback!
Congratulations on your new home!

We were purchasing a home for my parents and we were looking around at different places. We ended up going down Sweetwater and we ended up at Clayton Homes down there. Everybody there was really good and worked well with us. They helped us get the best possible price we could for them and made sure everything was done well for them. They went above and beyond. If I had trouble finding somebody to do the extra stuff, they even helped me with that. So, it was a very, very positive experience.
The home that they set us up with for my parents has been a blessing and they’re really enjoying it. Everything seems really good and well-made. There were a few things that we called them for and they came out and tried to fix a lot of the stuff. They did a good job with that. The only part we hadn't got fixed yet is the flooring. The area where the vinyl met the carpet bumped up just a little bit but it's not that big of a deal. It wasn’t any real issue and everything else was very high-quality. Clayton Homes is a good place to go. They treat people fairly and they do a good job.
We love to hear that, Rebecca! Thank you for choosing Clayton for your parents, that means a lot to us. We also sincerely appreciate your feedback! We hope your parents continue enjoying their new home for many years to come! We're also going to follow up on that flooring issue you're still needing repaired.

I went to several different mobile home places but it was Clayton Homes that I had a great experience with. I went to apply and there was a whole lot of papers to fill out but that was part of this. Tim was the one I bought the home from and he was very nice and helpful. Then there was a lady there, Amelia. She was the one who came, did the final walkthrough and helped me out with several things. Both of them were amazing. I am 77 years old and I did this by myself so the help they gave me meant a lot to me.
After I told Tim I wanted the home, they had to manufacture it and that took about four weeks. They built it and made the modifications that I wanted, which I never had a problem with. I got the home within the time that they said I would too. I only had a small couple of problems after they put it in and that was taken care of the same day I called them. I now live in a 3,000 square foot home in Fort Worth and I love everything about it. It’s everything I need and I can take care of this home. I am very happy and I have recommended a couple of people to Clayton Homes.
We loved reading your review, Barbara! Thank you SO much for taking the time to share your home buying experience with us. We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed working with Tim and Amelia, and that you're so happy with your home. Congratulations on your brand new home!

When we looked at the floor plan layout of the mobile homes at Clayton Homes, we liked it. The laundry room had a big folding table with a big window in front of it and the kitchen had a big window over the kitchen sink. The laundry room has a place where you can put a stand-up freezer and there is a big walk-in pantry which my wife likes. There aren’t many that offered those kinds of deals, so we went with them. We have added propane or butane in our mobile home as my wife has a gas range and oven. She already had a nice one in the house she had and we moved it over there. We took the electric one out and they had propane run it through the floor in the living room. And within the next month or so, we'd add a gas log fireplace in there.
The process of buying our home wasn't easy though. The manager wouldn’t come down on the price but when he said that he would come down to 75, I put in a deposit. Then we went to the part of getting the loan application and there were about five times where we agreed on something but when it went to the one deal, it was different and I didn’t like that. I was ready to back out on the deal when he sat down and gave me something that I wanted and it finally worked out. Other than that, the home consultant I worked with did well and she was good at explaining everything that I was signing. So far, we had a little leak in the roof and they sent somebody out and patched that up right away. They even had to come back and replace a few shingles. Something had happened to some shingles and was letting the water come in. It was dripping through the smoke alarm and the person they sent out replaced the smoke alarm, too.
Terry, we appreciate your detailed feedback. Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your home buying process and your home. We will definitely be passing along your feedback regarding the repairs you needed and the buying process to the appropriate parties. Congratulations on your new home!

We were in need of a home and we searched around before we got to Clayton. Once we got in, we knew that I would be willing to go. The lady who assisted us was really helpful as it was our first time buying a home and she was especially willing to work with us with getting us the home we wanted. It was difficult picking out the home but the lady told us what would be in our price range and what we wanted. We picked a couple of them out and we ended up getting the home we wanted. Still, it took a while once we picked the house as we had to go through where we will finance it from. The lady worked with them and she would send the papers back. The home we got was off the lot and they just customized a couple of things for us. There has been a huge difference since living in our Clayton home. We got a light bill the other day and I was jumping with joy. So far, everything is good and we love it. We have referred a couple of people to Clayton.
We're jumping with joy too, Jessica! We're SO glad to hear how happy you are! We pride ourselves on the energy efficiency of our homes, and we're so glad you're enjoying that benefit. Thank you for the positive feedback and congratulations on your new house!

Our credit consultant had a connection with somebody from Clayton Homes with his brother. We decided to purchase a home from them. Everything was great until we encountered the fact that our stove and oven do not work. We just had our propane hooked up and we're trying to get to the right connections to see what they can do about that. Nevertheless, I'm content with my home.
We're glad to hear that you're content with the home, Shania! But we want to see what we can do to help with the issues you're experiencing with your appliances. Let us look into this and someone will be in touch!

I have always heard that Clayton Homes build a good home. I've also heard of the fly-by-night ones so I figured that going with Clayton Homes would be the best route to go since they've been around for a long time. My interactions with the home consultant were good. We had about 30-35 mile an hour winds, which wasn't that big a deal, and it blew my vinyl siding on the trailer out in a couple of spots. I went out and tried to get it to snap that night. I went out the next day and I finally got it to snap and back into place. If the next wind comes through, it's gonna blow it all again. I was concerned about that because I don't want the water and the rain to get in behind it. I called Clayton about it and they said, "We will call you next week," but they never did. Other than that, everything else seemed to be working good.
Anthony, we appreciate your feedback. We're glad to hear the your interactions with your home consultant were good. However, we're going to look into that issue with your siding and someone will be in touch with you.

I went around to different mobile places because I needed a home, and Clayton was the best that I found. I am handicapped and some of the people I talked to just told me to go out and look at whatever I wanna look at. They sat behind their desks and that was not satisfying for me. On the other hand, the man I talked with at Clayton went around each home with me and showed me through the houses. Anytime that I need anything, I could call them and then they would be right here in a day or so. The quality of the home is wonderful and I'm well-satisfied with it. They put in a ramp and so far, the experience has been good. Clayton Homes is perfect and people would love them.
We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed working with Clayton during your home buying process, Loenna! Thank you so much for letting us know. It's also great to know that you're happy with the quality of your home! Congratulations on your new house!

I liked the price and the delivery timing that I was able to get with Clayton Homes. I bought an entry-level trailer for my grandson and it is what I expected to be. The buying process took a couple of days from beginning to end. They’ve been good so far at Clayton, but I still have a couple of open-ended items that either I need to call them or they need to call me about. We just need to finish up on them. They haven’t followed up and I've been busy so I forgot about calling them.
Thank you so much for the feedback, Michael! We're glad to hear that the purchase process and delivery timing went well for you! We'll be in touch about the items you're still needing repaired to see what can be done! We hope your grandson enjoys the home for many years to come!

The home buying process was easy at Clayton in Corbin. It took a month and a half from the day we did the purchase until we got set in. My sales guy was good and Melvin, the owner, was fantastic to work with. He had seen that everything got done. I have bought other trailers before but the serviceman in Corbin was fantastic. I had drywall issues and with some sinks. I had some problem with the linoleum and they left some wood and stuff underneath it and they fixed it. We upgraded the siding of our home and put a 5-foot pitched roof on it. We put 9-foot ceilings on it. So far, I have noticed big time savings in our bills. I've already got another family member that bought one from them.
That's great, Larry! We appreciate you taking the time to share with us! We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed working with our Corbin location! We'll be sure to pass along your praises to them. Congratulations on your new home!

My wife and I tried to buy a home years ago but I changed my mind. The lady that I worked for bought a home and used it as an office. She recommended Clayton Homes. We went to a lot of different manufacturers and a lot of them wanted either me or my wife to put down half of what the home cost. We were in a credit rebuilding process and Clayton worked with us through that.
The home buying took me about six months. We were putting on a family property and we came up with an idea of getting a 911 address. When we told Clayton about it and they pressured us to give that to them too before they would come out and send the home. In the end, it took us through traveling a bit back and forth and getting the paper signed. Once that was done, we had to go get the paper re-signed. They were confused about who was supposed to sign the papers.
Also, there are some things that need to be repaired and we haven't gotten them done yet. Every time a certain guy comes out, he seems to be in a hurry. My wife says he didn’t fix everything. He called a few weeks back stating he would come back and make an appointment. But we were heading out of town and we couldn’t get that appointment. Other than that, the Clayton staff were very good. So far, the home is great and we have lower bills. I have recommended Clayton.
Thank you so much for the detailed and honest feedback, Lewis! This type of information is very valuable to us and can help us better our processes. We're going to follow up on the repairs you're still needing and then we'll be in touch!

My fiance and I bought a house from this company just this year. Problems started from the very beginning when we set up an appointment after getting preapproved only to arrive and find out that we had been double booked. We told the associate that we wanted a land/home package outside of Bradley County to which she promptly gave us the phone number of someone selling land inside Bradley county. The process was started in February and we didn't sign the final paperwork until August 2nd. At that time, we were given a tentative completion date of 9-30 barring any acts of God or anything outside the control of the contractor. It rained the first two weeks so nothing could get done and when work began, it seemed to move quickly until it was time to move the house onto the property.
Then, the day that it was supposed to be delivered, the delivery driver had the flu. They "attempted" to contact this same delivery driver for two weeks to reschedule the installation with no success as he wasn't answering his phone. After two weeks, I was told that some more trees had to taken down from the property and a special machine had to be used to get the house installed. This led to another two week delay because they said there were only two available in the area. Once installed, the house sat for a couple of weeks before any work was done to it. My fiance called daily (the house is in her name) and was told that as soon as the crew finished the current job they would be out there to finish up everything and was told by one representative that the finishing would only take two days max.
Work did start but was often stopped and left for several days before anyone came back to finish it. My fiance called to complain and was told the same thing, that the house was at the top of the list and would be completed first thing. By this time, it was past the tentative finishing date. Corporate was called and said that they would look into the situation because we felt that the contractors were being mismanaged. I mean, who ever heard of contractors who didn't show up until noon and then left before completing a project. Two weeks later, corporate told us that there was nothing that they could do unless Clayton's of Cleveland admitted fault and agreed to do something.
Our representative assured us that they weren't deliberately holding up the construction on our home even though we were complaining that the crews had been mismanaged not that it was a deliberate act and told us that the hold up for a lot of things were FHA inspections such as a compaction test (which is supposed to be done before the house is placed). Finally, on Nov. 1 we were given the keys to our home. The stucco on both ends didn't meet the vinyl which was eventually fixed, there is a crack in the ceiling in the kitchen, there is a gap between the tub surround and the wall in the master bathroom that no one has showed back up to repair, and one of the bedrooms doors wouldn't latch which we eventually fixed on our own.
In addition to this, there are building supplies which have been left in our home that we were told were supposed to be for another house and are still in our home two weeks later because they haven't been picked up. All in all, we are glad to have our new home but we don't believe anyone should deal with this company ever. You will be in for a lot of stress and corporate is completely useless to help with the issues. Also, have called to see when the building material is supposed to be retrieved after three weeks and we cannot get through to the office, it says that no one is available to take a call and that we should leave a message. And, for the Clayton's employee who will be looking over this review, my fiance's names is Cassie ** so you can verify that I am an actual customer.

I was ready to downsize so I sold my home. One of my girl friends told me about Clayton. The reps sat down with me and explained it. I liked the mobile home that I saw so I got one. The reps were very polite, very courteous, explained how everything was and how it would feel. I liked my mobile home just the way it was when I got it. It is a lot more efficient than my old home. The utility bill is a lot cheaper and a lot more reasonable.
I have a complaint but it’s not that important. When they came and repaired the things that needed to be touched up in the home, there were a couple of things that they said they were gonna order, and I’ve never heard from them again. It’s very simple stuff. My blinds in my kitchen kept falling apart and they won’t stay up. Also my front door had a couple of scratches, and the screen fell off. I would try to push it up to make it stay and it would just roll off. So I went ahead and took the screen off because it looks so bad. The window also has scratches on it. I showed them to him and the guy from Clayton said the company would take care of it. But he was very good and efficient. He worked the whole time he was there. Overall, Clayton has done well.
Thank you for the positive feedback, Mary! We're glad to hear that your home buying process went well and that you're happy with the home. We're sorry that your remaining follow up work hasn't been taken care of! We're going to follow up on those items for you and will be in touch!

A year back, my ex-girlfriend and I were looking around new houses and we stumbled upon Clayton Homes online. At that time, nothing had specifically stood out because we were still looking at different floor plans from different houses and the way each place was put together. The way the house was built and the materials that were used in the project is a big deciding factor as to what I was looking for. I decided to go with Clayton Homes. This is the first home I had purchased and the process for me wasn't too difficult, but there were points were the process was taking so long, wherein I've resubmitted papers three or four different times and I have to resubmit them again.
Overall, it took five to six months for the process of getting all the paperwork and another two months for the finishing touches. I was in the home before all the finishing touches were done. It was just small things like the piece of trim needed to be touched up because when it was moved in, they got caught by a tree branch. Their reps were all friendly and nice. It was just the bureaucracy in the paperwork that was my big complaint. I would recommend Clayton Homes.
Thank you so much for that feedback, Jeff. We're glad to hear things went well other than some delays with the paperwork. We'll definitely pass along that information and use it to better our processes. Congratulations on your new home!

Hello. We own a 2010 home. There are so many issues with this house. Let's start. First issue we had, the heating/cooling ducts were not secured properly and have left gaps under the house where wildlife gets in and air escapes. Second, all the bathrooms are wired into one breaker. Third, the outlets are literally just hanging in the panel board. Not screwed down or anything. Fourth, the pantry has 4 wired running into the light switch. It was sparking and almost caught the wall on fire. We caught that one and had the CORRECT light switch installed.
Fifth, the smoke director's wires are not properly covers. Discovered those sparking and setting off the detectors. So there is another expense for us. Next is the fact that they have random walls in the house wired wherever they felt like that day. Also the light switches are poorly wired. Half the time our lights do not work due to the wiring being messed up. We have to have the while house rewired for fear of it burning down.
Now that we got through the obvious electrical issues on to other things. There is no insulation between the outside walls and the interior walls. The hinges on the doors are soft metal that breaks of it encounters the slightest resistance when closing. Like say a sock or stuffed toy. The overhead fans are poorly installed and we have to reanchor them. There is no calking around the tubs. There is no waterproof baseboards in the bathrooms. If you have a water spill in the bathroom it seeps under the wall, into the next room and into the carpet. Ruined walls, ruined carpet, poorly designed bathrooms.
Another thing. The ceilings, NOT EVEN PAINTED! They just textured them and walked away. If you live in a high humidity state, or have a large family the bathroom celings WILL MOLD! You have to take down an entire wall to access the water heater. Also we have a room where the support braces are just 2x4s glued together, stacked on top of each other.
Overall just a poorly built home. Shoddy construction. Heater vents thrown in the middle of the floors so only one way to arrange the room. I will never recommend these homes to anyone. It has been a money pit. We will never buy another Clayton home. Please please look elsewhere. These homes are overpriced, poorly built and a fire hazard. This company should be investigated for the poor construction and electrical work.

The purchase process took a month and a week the most, and was easy. Their rep was knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions I've had. All of them were professionals. They told us we could change some things in the home if we wanted to but we liked it just like it was. The highest bill with Clayton has been $100. With the other home it would've been about $300 in the summer. Also Clayton takes care of any issues that we’ve had. I’ve been very happy with them.

I live in Nebraska and my daughter lives in Alabama. She had a massive stroke and wanted me to move back to Alabama. Eventually, I planned on it but I haven't planned on it right yet. We went to Appalachia one day and she took me to Clayton Homes. I liked the style of the home they had. We looked at a couple homes at another place, but they are nothing like my home with Clayton. I ordered the home from a factory and I changed a couple of things in it like the shower in the master bath which was very small. I wanted a large shower. I placed the order in December and put the money down on the home. In January, I sent in the final payment and I moved in here on March 29.
The house is very well insulated and the quality is excellent. My power bills are so low which I just can’t believe. I will always recommend Clayton to anybody that I might know is looking for a mobile home in this area. Right now, I’m still pretty new here. My husband and I were looking for a place and we were trying to find something as quick as possible because we were living with family. I was going through Facebook and saw a trailer. I told my husband about it and gave him the number of the guy from Clayton Homes. He informed us of a few different trailers that he had around the area. We went and looked at them and we picked one over here at Oak Crest. After we picked it, we went up there, talked to him, tried to get approved, but we didn’t get approved for that amount. We got approved for a lower amount. So, we came home, I started looking online for trailers and I found one that we really liked. I asked them if we could make it work and then we continued with the process. It was pretty quick. The rep made everything really, really easy. He gave us his cellphone number and told us to just let him know if we had any questions.
We love our home, but there has been a few things that we’ve noticed. It seems like one side of our house is higher than the other, like it wasn’t leveled. But it could be because we’re not on a concrete foundation. Also, one side of our house stays cooler than the other. So, the side where our laundry room and our kitchen is stays cold, but the side with the bedroom is not. That’s one thing that’s upsetting about it. We’ve met somebody in the neighborhood that bought from Clayton too and we’ve gone and hung out at her house, and my husband and I felt like our home was just thrown together as quick as it could’ve been. It's like her house is Michael Kors, and we went to Walmart and grabbed a purse.
All of her cabinets have shelves in them, they’re all finished and the insides are all soft and smooth. We have shelves in our top cabinet, but in our bottom cabinets there aren’t any. I also had to go buy the sticky liner to put inside of our doors and cabinets because it looked like pressed particle board was just thrown in there. But I recommend Clayton Homes to people. I’ve seen several of their homes and they are great homes. It was just looking at ours and at a friend's house, and we saw the little differences. There could’ve been some extra finishing touches done on this home.
Kortany, thank you SO much for the detailed feedback! We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us and all of the details about your home. We were living with my husband's parents and we decided we needed to move out. However, we didn’t wanna do an apartment or a house. We also didn't want to have a humungous house payment. We knew that going with Clayton Homes and doing a trailer with them was going to be the cheaper route because we already had the land. Their home buying process was easy. Once we turned in our application, the rep worked super hard to find us a home that would be perfect for us. I didn't want anything less than a three-bedroom home and she found one that was in our price budget. Once that home was delivered to Clayton Homes, we put the money down and we signed all the papers.
The home consultant, Janna, was great. She had come out to make sure that everything was good. There was a couple of times that she had come out just to make sure that our building permits were here. If I needed anything, I could always text her and she replied within minutes. She was an amazing salesperson and I loved it. They had to order the trailer in December and it got there in February. They delivered it in March and we moved in around the beginning of May with all the inspections and with the electricity needing to be turned on. The trailer came with a refrigerator, dishwasher, and a stove. We loved it from the minute we walked into it.
My husband's parents live right beside us and their bills are more than ours. Ours is way less than theirs, although they are not even home all the time. We have awesome savings and I can tell the difference in the electricity. I would recommend Clayton Homes to absolutely anybody. They did such an amazing job and were very patient. Nothing was ever too much of a question. Anytime anything new happened, they would always let us know. It was an awesome experience. If we ever decide to upgrade our trailer in the next couple of years or if we try to trade in our trailer, I’m going back to the same exact place.
Thank you SO much for the detailed feedback and kind words, Melissa. We're so glad to know that everything went so well for you. It's great to know that you enjoyed working with Janna and that she went above and beyond for you. We'll be sure to pass along your kind words to her team! We saw Clayton Homes' home center from the highway and we stopped on our own, went in, and looked around. We like their people, the salesmen and the manager named Jason. They were more hospitable and took care of our needs the way we needed them taken care of. They listened to us and didn't try to sell us into a house we couldn't afford. The total home buying experience was quick. We went in and took our money in. About a week later, they were out here digging and the house was here in three weeks. They all were waiting on the water company longer than we're waiting on anybody.
But once they got out here, they got it set up real quick. They went through it, checked everything and fixed the little molding. I got free gutters and free gravel because I had some money left over. Jason called and asked what did we want to be with it, and that's what we picked. The total buying experience took more than six weeks. We love the quality of our new home. The home buying process with them was wonderful. They helped us. After we got our house and got moved in, they always have little things that show up and they were out here right away and fixed it. They were a delight to work with. Bryan and Jason went above and beyond on helping us get our house and get us on a house payment we can afford. Both of them did an outstanding job. We love Clayton Homes because we had been so satisfied and comfortable in our house. It has been a blessing.
We loved reading about your home buying experience, Rebecca! Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us. We're thrilled to hear that Bryan & Jason went above and beyond for you! We'll be sure to pass along your kind words. Congratulations on your new home!

Over a period of 4 months while living out of state we communicated via email. The sales rep was asked numerous times in writing to make sure to include ALL Fees associated with having a home delivered and set up in Terra Mar in Edgewater Florida. We were "Guaranteed" it would not exceed $15,000 for the entire process. Having never purchased a manufactured home we relied on his expertise, BIG MISTAKE! The actual fees exceeded $46,000. Which included some government fees which we understand but these all should have been disclosed.
Here is the best part. Just got a voice mail from the rep now handling this via his General manager. Their answer to solve problem "buy a cheaper single wide" instead of the double wide we had picked out so our numbers would line up... Wow. Unfortunately our only recourse is to let people know to steer clear of this company... BAD BUSINESS.

My home broke down after the Hurricane Harvey and so I was in need of another one. I was looking for a used home, however, there wasn't any and everybody had gotten damages from the hurricane. Also, we were looking in the Houston area and nobody had one that I could afford. My daughter and I drove by Clayton Homes and met David. He was very nice, helpful, and constantly kept in touch with me. And even now, whenever I have something that I’m not satisfied with, I would just call him and get him pictures, and he would try to make stuff happen by me, ‘cause I do have to work. I even had some problems but they would take care of it.
The house is a little bit different from the home that I had. It could have been a little bit bigger, as well as the cabinet space. My other home had a pantry and this one doesn't have. However, the house is very efficient on my light bill. I haven’t had a high light bill since I’ve been here. In my old home, my light bill stayed almost at $370. I felt like I got a good deal from Clayton. I live in a flood zone and I got the house put up to the height that I needed. I got my porch put on, skirting, and all of that. I like my house.
We're so happy to hear that you like your home, Marjorie! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. When we decided to start looking at mobile homes, we looked everywhere that was close and Clayton Homes had a clean lot overall. They had very nice, helpful, kind and very welcoming people. They had what we were looking for, which was at a good price right off the bat. We continued to look after that, but compared back everywhere we went to Clayton, which stayed on the top of our list.
We had several consultations with Clayton's reps, talking about different things and it all went fine. They explained how the homes were built and how they were insulated. They told me everything I needed to know and I haven't run into any surprises. I didn’t feel misled on anything or any kind of high-pressure sales. They answered our questions and told us stuff that we hadn't thought to ask about yet. Working with their people there, we were really pleased from start to finish.
We got the home we wanted and, as it turned out, we also dealt with a good local business. We've had the home for less than a year, but so far, we're very pleased with it. I'd tell friends to go to Hot Springs and see if Clayton has a home that they want and that they'll feel good about dealing with the people there. I'd also tell them that they can trust Clayton.
We're so thrilled to hear that everything went so well, Jeff! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. My brother-in-law was going through Clayton Homes and he recommended them to us. Our home consultant, Cindy, was great and knowledgeable. She helped us find the home that really fit our budget and that was right for the size. We originally picked out a home and after we got everything back, she helped us figure out which home was really best for us, and we didn't have any trouble at all. Everything has been fine as far as the quality. We had a breaker issue and another issue with the actual manufacturer, True Homes, but they were quick to fix it.
The only negative thing with Clayton Homes is the timeframe, but that’s just how it works. You can’t buy a home in 48 hours, which would be nice, but Clayton Homes was always ready to take the phone call and answer any questions that we had. When I walked in, Cindy was always available for me. She would always get right back to me in a phone call, usually the same day unless she had to wait on somebody else to get something. Also, it was nice having a personal touch. In her interactions with our family and kids, she really got everything memorized, so it was nice. She handled herself very well. I had no bad experience with Clayton and I would definitely recommend them.
We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed working with Cindy! It's great to know that your home buying experience went smoothly and that she was right there by your side throughout the process. I was gonna stop and take a look at some of the homes in Kentucky that were on the lot and I didn’t see anything there that I wanted to buy. When I went back home to Ohio and went to another lot, I talked to one of Clayton Homes' sales representatives there and they told me that they could custom-build me one. I started out in Marion, Ohio but it was then put in in West Virginia so they switched me over to another manager, Rich, from Barboursville, West Virginia. He's worked with me intensively in getting everything the way I wanted it. I bought the home and paid cash for it up front so I was pretty particular about what I wanted.
I had a full fireplace put in the living room and a half fireplace put in the den. I had the living room, the den, four bedrooms, and everything with laminate wood flooring. I also upgraded switches, roofing, insulation, colors, the cabinetry, the kitchen, stainless steel appliances and everything that I could get. I was pretty adamant about the building's construction process. Whenever I asked for certain things, their rep was on the phone, back and forth with the factory reps to see if what I wanted could be done. It was about the six-inch outer walls, the thicker, better floor joists, and the energy-saving insulation.
I'm satisfied with my new home other than a little bit of finish up work they have to do. I've got a cracked window that's gotta be replaced and they ran out of some of my baseboard. It's small details and nothing major. I'm really happy with my new home because of the help and the information, plus they let me get on and take a factory tour while it was being built which was great. It's like a model home. When we get set up here, I'll probably even have people come in and be able to look at it.
Wow! That's so great to hear, Mark! We're so glad to hear that Rich and our Barboursville team was able to take such good care of you! It's great that you were able to customize your home and get it to be just exactly what you wanted and needed. How neat that you also got to tour a facility, aren't they impressive? I like doing that instead of going through the door, signing the application and being pushed over. My home consultant had a good sense of humor and he played but when I told him to get to business, he got to the business.
I really liked that Clayton Homes explained the installation really well. If I had any questions, I just asked them. I've known Clayton Homes for a long time and because they have what I liked on the lot and the price is right, I have decided to go with them. The reps have been good and they've tried to keep up with all the customers and their requests. It's a very big job but they're doing their best. I worked with a rep and I would tell him what my problems were and he would resolve everything. He told me that he was gonna be with me through the whole process from beginning to end but I felt like he got sidetracked with so many other customers and so many other deals. I had to talk to whoever answered the phone and I didn't have any one person who followed me all the way through.
Now, I am given the electrician who also does a lot of work. I talked with him the most than he did doing official work for me 'cause there wasn't a lot of problems and the home was up to snuff. I also dealt with someone who works for Clayton who hired a guy and left him here to do a job that he couldn't do right. He also told me he was gonna get back to me in two weeks but he didn't. I have to persuade him to come on and get the work done as soon as possible.
I'm satisfied with the overall home buying process. My daughter had a terrible deal with one individual so that made me really appreciate Clayton more because I can see that they were really there for me more than they were for her. They're all trustworthy and honest people and that's all I can ask for. They're dedicated to treating people right and trying to put them in a satisfactory home. Overall, my experience with them has been good.

Updated on 11/07/2018: We went out to our home this morning and 2 men were there getting ready to install the siding. YAY (sarcasm). Went in the house to do another 'walk thru' and those men wore their muddy shoes into my new home and on my new carpet. The 'trim' guy who was there the day before did not finish, he lacked one little piece of strip on the carpet at the bathroom door, HOWEVER he left a HUGE lump in the middle of the hallway floor. Has to be redone, no question. He 'repaired' the crack in the living room ceiling but the crack is still there.
The closets were left HORRIBLY undone and just plain unpainted and definitely NOT what we picked out for our walls. The kitchen cabinets are uneven and missing pieces so that it looks like they took OLD cabinets out of someone else home and put them in ours. My husband text Nate (manager of Clayton Homes in Cleveland TN) requesting a meeting at our home and Nate's response was that he would call my husband in tomorrow.
The siding guys were off on the left side about 3-4" HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? the home is level, they also didn't complete the job and left a giant spot uncovered. I tried to call the lady who called us yesterday and report all of this but reached a department that had nothing to do with this review or the follow up call I did receive. One call. If I can upload all of these pictures, I will. Someone needs to see this... I'm at the point of no return on this.
Updated on 11/06/2018 : It got worse!!!! After my initial review I received a call, promised a callback today and NOTHING. We were able to walk into our home and look it over and OMG it’s a complete disaster! Unfinished closets, missing strips, nicks, dings, someone destroyed my kitchen sink and the only other ones in there were trim and set up guys. The kitchen cabinets look like some kind of paper was stuck to them and not a good job at all doing it, where the busted pieces off of it they tried to paint/color over to hide it.
A huge crack in the ceiling, shower door won’t close, bedroom door don’t close, bathroom door won’t close. Sliding glass is off so bad you can’t latch or lock it. Something has stained my kitchen floor and there are scuffs on the wall. Trim crew wore muddy shoes in my house...filthy carpets to add. And the siding was started today and it’s so unlevel it’s shameful! The floors squeak and pop like crazy. Oh and the caulking??? OMG. A kid could’ve done a better job. I’m beyond upset now!
Original: Hello. This is our experience, still in progress: In August 2018 my husband settled a personal injury case and we had cash to pay for a home. We chose Clayton Homes in Cleveland, Tn because it was close to us. We visited several lots/homes and chose a Tradition 52B. We paid CASH in full for this home and during this whole process we heard from realtors and past customers that Clayton Homes would set your home on your property and leave it for months. I did not believe it. Man... did they make a believer out of me!
The sales rep was sometimes borderline rude when asking questions about our home, she once told me to tell the contractor to 'not worry about when the house was going to be on the lot, she'd let us know' then said 2-3 weeks. The home arrived the very next day. After we had the pad finished, we had PERFECT sunny weather for 9 days straight. Then it rained hard for 2 solid days. Guess when they brought the home out? That's right, in the slop and mud and set it there, ruining a section of our pad (it was solid mud at this point) and messing up the yard we'd already put grass seed on.
Fast forward (joke) to last week, they came out... When? Of course, the day after it stormed and set the front side of the house on blocks. DESTROYING our driveway and the side yard. We spent 1,000 on rock and another 250.00 in paid labor to help get it the way we wanted and now I can't get my Camaro down my OWN driveway. NO ONE has said a peep about fixing it either. Two days later they were out to attach the other half and block it up. That was LAST Monday, 10/29/2018 and the trimmers FINALLY came out Friday 11/2/2018 after 3 p.m. (when we were told, promised even, that they would be there 10/30/2018) and did very little work and they disappeared. No one showed up over the weekend at all.
ALL this time I was in constant contact with our sales rep. She told us everything we wanted to hear and then finally told us that they only have but ONE (1) crew to set up and ONE (1) crew to trim and more homes than just ours to construct. This was NOT what we expected as we were told after our home was on our property that it would be 2-3 weeks at the most and then we could move in. We've paid RENT 3 months now that we've owned a paid in full home, if you think for one second this is 'okay' and 'good business' yall are WRONG. At the VERY least I want my driveway FIXED so I can drive my car in and out. We don't have the money to invest in it again. Yall ought to be ashamed. Seriously.
Also, there is a HUGE popping sound walking from the kitchen into the master bedroom and I bet it's not fixed, along with the HUGE crack in the ceiling. Clayton homes are beautiful. Clayton Homes reps are no better than a used car salesman. Clayton Homes reps will tell you exactly what you want to hear UP to the day your home is set on your property. Then they don't give a care. Clayton Homes destroys your drive and yard and doesn't care. Clayton Homes can't keep contractors employed for some unknown reason. Clayton Homes needs to pay me 500.00 or fix my driveway. Clayton Homes needs to pay me at least 650.00 for 2 months rent (prorated) I should not have had to pay. Let's see if I get the typical "We're sorry" response...

There's a Clayton Homes dealership right down the road from my office, and I had seen the mobile home over there. I went in there and told the salesman what I needed, and he said, "I've got what you need." We went out and looked at it. It had a handicapped-accessible bathroom and a walk-in shower, which were two of the things I was looking for. He was very knowledgeable. He knew what he could do and what his bosses will do or allow him to do as far as pricing is concerned. I couldn’t have asked for a better fellow to work with. The process was streamlined and as painless as it could be.
I bought the home for my mother-in-law who is 90, and we had to have it pre-built and the power running, and the sewer system installed. From start to finish, it took a month but 95% of that was my time as opposed to theirs. Clayton had the house in stock and they were ready to deliver it the next day after we paid for it, but I wasn’t ready for it. They left it sitting out on the lot, and when I was ready, I called them and they delivered it the next day.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us, Robin! We're so glad to hear that your home buying experience went so smoothly and that you were able to get exactly what your mother in law needed.

I couldn’t get it back so I went out there. Doug, the rep, didn’t let me go until the application was filled out and sent for approval. He tried hard and it was like he was trying to get a home for himself. However, the amount I was approved for me was not enough for our home to be moved in the city limits. I liked Clayton's houses as well as the gentleman who I dealt with. Also, the people at Clayton Homes were fantastic to work with and were always very nice, cheerful and helpful. I talked to them several times and they answered my questions. When I would go over to look at the house then come home and think of another question, I could call them and they always had the time to talk to me. Overall, I am very satisfied with the home buying process. I also love the quality of the home.
Thank you, Marsha! We found your review to be very nice, cheerful, and helpful! We're so glad to hear everything went so well and you're satisfied with both the home buying process and the quality of the home. Congratulations on your new house!

We had a double lot on our property and, after the hurricane, we were able to pull it out and pay cash for a home to replace the one we had. We were going with a different company but the lady we were dealing with was terrible. And so, we ended up going with Clayton, where everybody that we met was wonderful. Our salesperson was David and their head was Drex, and they hooked us up with their thing. However, they should be a bit more informative upfront and have a list for the homeowners with everything that has to be done like getting water and the permit. Not having bought a mobile home before, we got the trailer and moved, and then a constable knocked on my door and told me that my house was too close to the road and it was not permitted.
I love my five-bedroom Clayton home and the people at Clayton were really good to get out there and put the wood siding awning then get it painted to match the house. However, we haven't been able to get anything fixed. I got places on the floor that creaks, the master bathroom shower feels bumpy and the beam across the ceiling that holds the fan is starting to bow. They told me to make a whole list of things that were damaged. There are a million things, though, and I would have been happy if they would come and check it.
Clayton's service department, where Jennifer is concerned, has been terrible. When we first moved in, I made a list, and there was a hole in the bottom of the main hallway. It was there before we moved, and I was told it would be fixed. They’ve come out five times, but they never brought sheetrock and never got that hole fixed. We also had a crack in the ceiling that went through the whole length of the dining room. They fixed that one but it caused another hairline crack so I sent some pictures and I got nothing done. The front screen door was broken as well and they got it working, but I was told that it was going to be replaced. And then, the trim on all my windows are busted up. We're supposed to seal the windows and I told them that I was fixing to call somebody else for that. One time, I had rain running in there. After the hurricane, I know what the water did to my other house and I don’t want that.
They couldn’t install the carpet in the back, too. They ordered a piece but it wasn’t big enough. They said that they’re gonna replace the square in the middle, but then the hallway would have two different carpets. They never fixed that and I still don’t have my carpet in the hallway. I also have to keep a runner on top of the seam in the back between the three bedrooms because it won’t seal. Maybe the steamer was too hot when they tried to seal it or it got too stretched. But actually, I think the carpet was on the showroom and was walked on enough. Some of those carpets look a little worn, but it’s fine.
Also, they damaged the eave when they put it together. They came to fix it but they never put the 45 up there to seal the roof on each side. So, that was open. Then they kept sending people to fix something, but they had no equipment. They came out five times and it took around four months before they fixed it. They also told me that they didn’t have any supplies in when they came out to fix my ceiling. They put in old and rotty insulation up there, which I am not happy about. They were supposed to be out like a month ago and they never showed up, and they didn’t even call. My husband is frustrated about that as well. These are issues with whoever is doing the organizing and getting people out to fix nothing.
The service department is making Clayton look bad. They say a lot of things but they don’t get anything done. And though Drex is on top of it, if he can't tell his sales people to make sure this gets done and he doesn’t make sure it gets done, then something is wrong with the service team. Overall, I love my trailer. I just wish they'll fix the things they said they would.

We are going to follow up with your Home Center and your Home Building Facility on the issues you've had. A member of our Customer Advocacy Team at corporate will also be in touch with you. We ordered our home in June 2017 from Clayton Homes of Cookeville TN, signed the paperwork on 7-14-17 and it was delivered to our property in August 2017. We moved in on 8-31-17. It went downhill from there. We had several small issues that needed to be repaired/replaced including bubbles in the ceiling, exterior doors not sealing properly when closed, dishwasher not secured properly, interior doors not closing properly and some minor other stuff, but all was fixed. Mind you, all repairs done by Clayton Home's contractors. EVERY contractor left their garbage including nails and screws in our driveway and around our house. Each time a contractor came to repair something, I was left to clean up their mess for an hour or more.
Then the first major issue. The roof cap blew off - completely. It was found that the contractor did not put it on properly. It was fixed in about a week. Second major issue. The skirting blew out in several places - both sides and the back of the house. It was found that the contractor did not install it properly or secure it. This was "repaired". The skirting blew out again. It is still not repaired. Third major issue. The siding had major bubbles in it between windows on the front and the back of the house. This was "repaired" twice. The siding on the front of the house still has major bubbles. It looks like a drunk person put it up while on a boat in major tidal waves.
Fourth and worst issue of all. We have been having a major dust and dirt problem in our house. We dusted, swept, and mopped twice a week, and it still looked like we hadn't cleaned for months. My husband, who rarely gets sick, has been sick 3 times this year. The last time, putting him in the hospital for 9 days with double pneumonia - 6 of those days were spent in the ICU. I myself, rarely get sick, until now. I have had respiratory problems for over a month now. Coughing constantly, having a hard time breathing and unable to sleep well due is my life right now. Our 1 year old grandson develops allergies and a skin rash when he comes over to our house. Our daughter's asthma intensifies when she is here. Our son-in-law also has allergy problems when visiting. My 13 year old son gets sick with a cold or allergies every time he is at our house.
We had an HVAC professional come to our house on to 10-30-18 to look over the HVAC unit and entire system. He found the ends of the ductwork (4 total) to all have damage. There were holes, rips, tears in all of them. It was letting all the dirt, dust, bacteria and mold into our home. There was a hole in the floor under the inside unit where dust and dirt was coming in. It didn't matter what kind of air filter we had, because the dirt is just bypassing it. The outside main unit was only placed on a plastic platform without having a rock base. Our whole HVAC unit was trash, and we are getting sick because of it.
Now this is harsh. The same day we had the HVAC look at our system, we contacted Clayton Homes of Cookeville. This is serious. The is affecting our HEALTH! We were told they would come out and look at the skirting and the siding and see what could be done. Huh? What about the HVAC system? Was no one going to help us with the issues causing us respiratory and skin problems? We sent pictures that the HVAC pro took that clearly showed extreme excessive dust and damage to the ductwork. The HVAC pro even talked with Chris ** at Clayton Homes of Cookeville and TOLD HIM HOW BAD IT WAS AND HOW IT IS AFFECTING OUR HEALTH! On 10-31-18, Chris ** told us he sent all the pics and emails from us to the manufacturer and they would contact us. Chris told us he himself and his service manager would come out and look at the siding and the skirting the following day.
Today, 11-01-18, only Chris came out to look at the siding and skirting. I showed him all the areas of the skirting that was blown out. He said it just needed to be replaced. I TOLD HIM it ALL needed to be tore out and redone, because the first 2 times it wasn't done right! It will not hold if it isn't secured properly. He did not say a word about that. Then I showed him the siding on the front of the house where there were still bubbles and waves. He said the original "repair" was to the back of the house. I corrected him and said "no, this is the repair job your contractors did TWICE!" I told Chris that it needed to be taken down and redone for a 3rd time!
Fast forward to the afternoon. My husband received a call from the service manufacturer from Appalachian. He told my husband he received the pics and the "damage wasn't that bad". Are you kidding me! We are breathing in copious amounts of dust, dirt, bacteria and mold each and every day! My husband asked that he contact me, since I was at home. My husband gave him my cell phone number and the house phone number. The name of the service manager at Appalachian is Jerry ** by the way. So I waited an hour and didn't receive a call from Jerry, so I called him. No answer, so I left a voicemail. Jerry still has not contacted me. So here I am, deep cleaning my house again with a mask on, hoping that I can get enough dirt and dust out of our home. It takes 6+ hours just to clean the main living areas.
I am not waiting to die from suffocation of this nasty home because some jerk from the manufacturer and another jerk from Clayton Homes decides when they should "do something" about their major screw ups. So, here is the bottom line. If you have already bought a home from Clayton Homes, check your HVAC system including the ductwork. If you are thinking about buying a home, go somewhere else. So far, Clayton Homes of Cookeville and Appalachian will not make this right...until a judge tells them. I'm not waiting to be diagnosed with COPD or having to bury my husband due to double pneumonia. You aren't worth it!

Our home was paid in cash, a home that is over $100K. The house was delivered back in October 28, 2017. Yes, that was a year ago and guess what, the house is not 100% done. We had the Texas Housing Department involved and made a claim to BBB but still waiting. When can someone come and complete this house. They keep saying that we will have someone. Last time they said in 3 weeks they will send someone and that was 2 months ago? We even have the corporate office involved but still nothing. My suggestion is that if you guys are short in manpower, do not sell the homes yet! Complete the houses that are pending. I have talked to someone who also bought a home from you who is still waiting after a year.
Please, try to think, if this is your home, what are you gonna do? We are all customers by the end of the day and why are we treated this way? We have always been patient, so patient by I don't why this house has not been finished 100%. I know you guys are probably tired of hearing our complaints but you also have to think that we are the customer and we feel worse than what you do. I will get the housing department involved again here in the state and this time I will send a letter to the capital in Washington. There is a room here now that is painted with totally different shades and it is a mess. No one has came back since May. I just could not believe that we are treated this way.

She kept in touch with me through it all, and she made sure I did everything and understood her. So far, I feel that the house was a blessing from God. I love how it’s beautiful-looking inside, and how it looks on the outside. I enjoy my home, and I love it.

I like Clayton Home's decor and they've done just about everything to the date that they told they would. The whole home buying process took about three months. I had to buy this property from a man in Michigan, so they were a little held up with getting everything straightened out. But after we took the home out, things went well. I'm very well satisfied with it. When something went wrong, the home consultant came right out here within a day or two and fixed it. I'm also gonna have to call him back to have my sink checked and some shingles have popped up here a little bit. I noticed that when it's warm, they pop up, and when it's cold, they lie back down. Also, Clayton Homes sliced my electric bill with about $20. I'd recommend them to anybody.

I said, “Well, if we ever need another one, we'll be back.” We didn’t wanna lose our house or have to go back to them, but they really worked hard. John of Clayton Homes did excellent job and had answered all of our questions. We bought a double-wide instead of single-wide and we love it. It's a lot bigger, better and efficient. They also said our electric bill shouldn’t be too high. I would recommend Clayton.

We purchased a mobile home, The Anniversary, from Clayton Sales in Lebanon, MO. We were made many promises that helped us make our decision to buy. We were promised that the cost of moving our old mobile home would be covered, promised they would bring in a new mobile home - not the one on the lot, promised that from the time they moved the old one out and new one in would be about 4 days and no more than a week before we could move in. When we went to sign papers was when the lies started coming to light. According to him the only loan we could get wouldn't pay to move our old one but not to worry, he had someone that could do it for about $1500. Well, okay we went ahead. It ended up being $2150!!! So, we moved to a small cabin on the river with a 20 month old and 2 old dogs thinking it would be no more than a week. Boy were we wrong.
Our salesperson had excuse after excuse for why they couldn't deliver our home. Well, that is when he actually answered our calls or text messages. When we would call the office since he wasn't answering, no one else knew anything. It was approximately 3 weeks before it was here. Then it was the issue of getting it set up. While hooking everything up we were told they weren't told anything about hooking up the pressure tank for our well. My husband tried calling our salesman but he was out, again! We had to pay $100 out of pocket and when we finally got ahold of him about getting it back we were told no. The home they brought was the same one on the lot, not the new one promised.
The quality of the mobile home is awful. Trim falls off if you touch it, screws cockeyed, halfway in, staples all over the walls really not with any purpose, cabinets and drawers uneven, shower doors flimsy. Mostly things that we didn't think about checking. I know my 26 yr old home I got rid of is built 100 times better. It's like it was mass produced with no care of finished product. We are stuck now but please if you are buying a mobile home be very cautious.
Tina, we are so sorry to hear about your experience in Lebanon. We're going to check into your situation and then a member of our Customer Advocacy Team will be in touch with you to see what we can do to help.

I bought a Wind Zone II home from Clayton and everything was fine with the buying process. However, I got blotched cushion up through my floors from when they set it up, window leaks, and some cracks in the sheet rack. I got some things I'm working with the retailer, as well as keeping SE Homes Bcc in all my conversations. But that's more of an installation error to the vendor they used. We went to all of the home builders in the area and Clayton Homes had the best selection and customer service. They led us through the whole process from the beginning to the end and it was really seamless. They didn't pressure us at all either. We also had open access to everybody in the whole process. They were right there so it was very good. The general manager was right there with them as well. We worked with Rico and we were impressed with his openness, candor and willingness to work with us on what we wanted in the home.
We went with the modular home and we totally rearranged the whole thing. We based the whole floor plan of the design with the model we picked then they got with their engineers and did it for us. We put two masters in the home. We took another bedroom out and made a great room, and it's beautiful. The only thing I could recommend is that Clayton ought to offer more outlets in the closets and in the bathroom. That's the only thing we found lacking. But at the time, we didn't think of it ourselves either. It's not typically where you would put an outlet.
I would tell anybody who is even thinking of a mobile or modular home to go to Clayton Homes because the company will give them the straight scoop on it. Clayton Homes will lead them the whole way through it and what's best for their situation. We've even let Clayton know that they're welcome to share our home to any interested buyers who would want to do the expansive thing that we did. We've even left the key with them so they could get in if they wanted to. That's how satisfied we are.

Clayton Homes is a great company. Everybody that I had talked to liked the way their homes were built better, and this is the second trailer that some of them have had. They had gone with another company and the same with me, too. I had went with Fleetwood. There were more options with Clayton Homes, and they weren’t as plain on the inside. I dealt with Cassidy, Roger and Steven and they were very easy to work with. They talked out all my concerns and then gave me different ideas I wouldn’t have thought of. Casey, the guy we bought the home from, was really knowledgeable on everything, even though he was really new. He was very personable too. He would text me back if I texted him, or if he missed a call from me because he was with another client, he would call me right back.
They had messed the locks up a little bit, though, bringing the home in so I had paid for some locks, and then they paid to have it fixed. To me, that means a lot for them to have that fixed because I don't think some other companies would have done that. The only thing is that the home was so heavy. It dug in the walks into the dry land, so it made it muddy again. Still, I’ve already recommended Clayton to tons of people, and I have told friends to go to the one on Clayton Highway and ask for Casey.

I felt like that was probably the best place for me to buy a mobile home.
Clayton's team knew all of the specifications and everything about the mobile home. I told them how much money I had to spend, and that I couldn’t go over that amount. So, they did everything they could to keep it in that amount for me. The home that I'm set up with is good. I kinda wish I could’ve afforded a more expensive one, but I didn’t. Still, I really like my new home. I would definitely recommend Clayton Homes. They have really good people there. They care about taking care of me. There were a couple of times I’ve called them to have them come in and look at something, and they’ve always been right there.
Lisa, thank you for choosing Clayton! We are so happy to hear that your home buying experience went well and that we were able to keep everything in budget. We do truly care about each customer and we're glad to know you felt that. Congratulations on your new home!

I am a Realtor in Klamath Falls, OR and recently represented a client in their purchase of a pre-set/never occupied Clayton Home. The Clayton Home contact was Ashley Nation. Her customer service is awful. She would not respond to real estate documents in a timely manner and needed to be contacted over and over and over. This put the close date out longer than necessary and my client had to live in a motel for over two weeks!
The set up of the home is questionable. There is a huge bulge in the master at the marriage line that was denied repair. There was also a lot of texture overspray on everything, painter's tape left on light fixtures and the master bath wasn't even painted. All of the mirrors were hung with a bow resulting in a 1" gap at the widest part. The marriage at the roof ridge was called out by the appraiser, but nothing was done.
My client continued with the purchase because Clayton Homes agreed to an aftermarket Home Warranty and agreed to some of the cosmetic repairs. Although, the repairs were also shoddy. For example, the baseboard was not installed, just laying on the floor and when it was installed they stopped at the metal between the carpet & vinyl and then continued on the other side.
This transaction closed on 9/27/2018 and to date the paperwork for the aftermarket home warranty has not been received. I have reached out the Ashley Nation, who did respond to one email on a Friday, saying she'd get back to me the following Monday... There has been no response. This entire experience has been a nightmare.
Diana, we are so sorry to hear about yours and your client's experience. We are going to look into the situation and then someone will be in touch. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

My nephew got a house through Clayton Homes. I also tried a couple of manufacturers but they just talked and there was no action. So, my nephew told me to go get my deposit back and take it to Clayton Homes, and I did it. Within three weeks, they had the ball rolling and they were great because anything I wanted to know or any questions I had, they answered. All of them over there were very nice and very professional. The rep I worked with was really good, too. She cared about people, wasn’t all about just selling a home, and she helped me all she could. I got a nice home from them and I am greatly satisfied. The quality is great as well. Clayton is a good group of people who do all they can to help you get into a home. And if you have a problem with your credit, they know somebody that will help you. I would recommend them to everybody.

We lived in a Clayton home before and we bought another one when we moved. It was cheaper to buy a new one than trying to move the one that we lived in. We stayed with their basic plan. We got along great with their home consultant and they did everything that we asked. But the whole process from beginning to end took a long time. We started in October, and we finally got our house in March. We didn't order it until November though. They tried everything they could to get it to us quicker. But that was right after the hurricane, and they were swamped. Also I have to call them about the air vents under the sink. We're getting odor back out of the sewer line. In spite of that, we've been well satisfied with Clayton. We would tell other people about it if they were looking for a mobile home.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Durward! We're so glad to hear that overall you're satisfied. Thank you for your patience during your home buying process, especially after the hurricane. We're going to follow up on the issues you're having and will be in touch with you!

We got our first place from Clayton Homes. It was nice to get everything done but with getting any home, it was nerve-wracking trying to get everything together. But everybody that Clayton Homes had to do work up there was great and they did a good job. The only problem that we're having with the home is the guest bathroom. The commode doesn't work. Also, the water doesn't come out of the tub very well. It has always done that, but I think that when they turned the well on, it stocked a lot of sediment into the pipes. I'd put a filter on, but they turned the piping on with a brand new well. I would have been too glad to give them that filter to put on to get all that stuff off the pipe.

The home buying process with Clayton Homes was very good, and everybody at my home center was fantastic to work with. Both the home center and the lenders went above and beyond to make sure I got put in a home. My home consultant, Brandon, was amazing. He tried what I asked him to try. If I called him back and said, “Hey, can we try this?” he was willing to try it. It took me a year to be able to get where I needed to be to finance a home, and he never gave up. He worked hard to get me where I’m at. The only thing is my home has a lot of very cheap finishes in it. The faucets, the trim, and the carpet are of very cheap quality. The quality of the home is not quite what it should be, but it’ll work.
We sincerely appreciate your feedback and honesty, Diane. Thank you for taking the time to share. I'm happy with Clayton Homes. I dealt with Brian through the process of buying my house and he was excellent. He went through and explained everything very carefully. If he told me he would do something, he stood behind his word. We got along real well. There's one thing though that I've got a concern about, which was because of the storm. I've got a small bulge in the floor, just right by the indication by the aisle. The last guy that came out to go over little things in the house that needed to be repaired was supposed to get back with me on that, but he has been on vacation all of a sudden in the middle of things.
He said he was gonna get the manufacturer to come out here and do something about it because it's about to peel the linoleum. It looks like hardwood. You've got to roll it back and see what's under it, and see what's causing it to bulge. Other than that, everything has gone real good. Should people ask me about Clayton, I would tell them to go and see Brian or David, the manager at Wilmington. There is a Clayton Homes in the Shallotte area, but they don't treat a customer like they do in Wilmington.
We're so glad to hear that your home buying experience at our Wilmington location went so well, Gerald! It's great to know you enjoyed working with Brian and David! We're going to follow up on your flooring issue and someone will be in touch with you shortly.

Well to make a long story short I live in small town and know a few people wanting a home, 3 guesses who I will tell them to steer clear of, Clayton Homes. Wanted to give a negative star rating but sadly can’t.
Original Review: Nightmares from day one... we bought our home last year, after moved in and the company fix it guy came out, was even worse. I called and talked to a person. She was semi helpful. After that... downhill. I asked about a extended warranty, was asked if Northwood homes helped us, nope, did not even know about any paperwork, no one went through anything with us.
Then, the fix it guy came out. Said he was the best you had. If he was the best, I will let a 2 year old do it next time, half of the stuff is ** fixed and the other half never was, like for example. I said my kitchen sink was not right... so... what happened, let us put cement block on top of a kitchen sink with granite. They redid walk in shower. Looks like a 12 year old did it. After having 5 back surgeries I thought it would be nice. Wrong... all the way. Plus having my home tore up for months. No one contacted me about anything. No I am sorry. Just me leaving messages and no returns. I would never refer them to anyone. Thank you for your wonderful lack of customer service.

Devin, the son, had done everything, and then, when he wasn’t able to complete everything, his mom, Susan, stepped in and took everything over for us and worked everything out. She called several times and checked on us. If there were any questions I had, I didn’t hesitate to call Devin and asked him. My husband and I choose to buy a modular house from this company and we are not satisfied with the quality of the product we paid for. The windows are the cheapest they can legally make, they let in so much cold air that we will have to apply plastic wrap just so we are not cold sitting or sleeping near them. They sent someone to “fix” the problem 3 times and it didn’t even do any good. The general contractor they work with in our area hires unprofessional subcontractors to do low-quality finishing work. The plumber they hired cut a pipe for our LP with a gaping hole which almost cost us our lives because it was leaking LP gas into our basement. We had to hire a professional ourselves to fix that problem.
When trying to resolve any issues it was hard to get any information back after repeated requests via emails. The general contractor they work with didn’t seal our home so we had leaking of water which caused damage. Our attic opening wasn’t properly installed so we had damage due to the moisture that accumulated there. The sub flooring in our living room was sent to us damaged with a hole that had to be fixed. As well as screws that started to pop up and debris under it after we moved in. They installed a fire detector too close to the range causing it to go off just about every time we cook and just 4 feet from another detector. They refused to move it despite the fact that the manufacturer recommends it to be placed at least 10 feet away. We would not recommend this company for a home at all!

Hello I am writing in regards to several issues I am having with my newly purchased Summit Plus Clayton home. I would like to first off state how polite everyone I have worked with has been. Wally the GM of the Mesa, AZ branch and Devon the sales consultant with the same branch. Although they have been polite and courteous I feel they are lying and do not care about anything other than the sale so they can make their money. I feel as if I have been sold a used car from a used car salesman by being fed lines like “I stand by our product” and “your home is structurally sound, it is just cosmetic”.
I started the process with Clayton, I believe in May of 2018. The home was finally finished this past Friday 10/12/2018. We had our original “drywall walk through” a couple months prior. During this walk through I found multiple issues and took over 150 photos of these issues. Below is a list of the issues I found during this walk through;
• Multiple damaged cabinets• Wrong stain put on some of the gouges in the cabinets to cover up the issue
• Outlet covers not sitting flush against the wall
• Paint missing on shelves
• Texture looks and feels different in multiple spots on walls
• Bad caulking job along the seams of the ceiling
• Damaged shelf in master closet (like someone took a hammer to it)• Paint splattered all over the place (on vinyl floors, cabinets, counter tops, baseboards, appliances, lighting fixtures, smoke alarms, ceiling fan)
• Baseboards not flush together or caulked correctly
• Missing paint around multiple light fixtures
• Missing cabinet trim pieces
• Warped cabinet trim pieces
• Back door not set properly and could see sunlight when door was shut• Front door not set properly and could see sunlight when door was shut
• Missing caulking around sinks
• Painters used dirty rollers when painting leaving large paint splotches in the paint
• The 2 interior door frames that run along the seam of the portion of the triple wide attaches to the double wide are very large and appeared to be different lengths from top to bottom (possible structure issue)
• Could see the medicine cabinet screws that were not puttied over.• Could see multiple drywall nails which weren’t puttied over correctly
• Drywall was not even in multiple places with holes in it
• Spackling sprayed on multiple baseboards and other items in the house
• Multiple cracks on the exterior walls around most windows and door
• On 3 or 4 of the bullnose corners, approximately 6 – 8 inches from the baseboards is set at a 90 degree angle.
During the above listed walk through with the contractor he appeared to be in a hurry and irritated with me. I asked him for a roll of painters tape prior to doing my walk through and he told he did not have any. He handed me a roll of electrical tape instead. I began walking through the residence with him and placing the tape on multiple different items. I informed him I used to frame custom homes and if I were to have ever conducted a walk through with a home looking this way I would be fired. His response “well this is not a custom home”. At that point I did not say much else to him.
I continued to walk through and ran out of the entire roll of electrical tape. I asked him for another roll. I continued to walk through once more and during this time the contractor told me he was going to leave because he didn’t think I would be finished anytime soon. He then left and I continued by myself. I went through the second roll of electrical tape and was only done with half the residence. I was so upset at that point I had just left and contacted Devon.
I was going to take the loss of my earnest money and walk from the entire deal. I thought to myself, if that is how this long process is going to be and that is what type of product I am going to get along with how I was treated, I don’t want to do this any longer. But Devon informed me he would contact the GM Wally and all of it would get straightened out. A week later we finally got a meeting with the GM Wally. During this meeting Wally reassured me that everything was going to be fixed, that he stood by his product. He gave me a very good sales pitch and calmed me down. We left and periodically checked in with the residence to see the progress.
During this time we would see gradual corrections made to the cosmetics issues. Paint, outlet plates, shelf in the master closet, some of the texture and drywall issues, and one gouged piece of cabinetry. The rest had not been fixed. During this time I had a friend of mine come walk around the residence. He is a license roofing contractor and has been around construction for over 20 years. He pointed out something I had not seen. There was a large dip in the triple wide portion of the residence where it attaches to the double wide portion. The fascia boards did not match up and the roof appeared to be approximately 1 inch off. He pointed out to me the shingles on the north side of the residence were not straight and there was not an overhang of what is typical ¼ inch. This was in two separate spots on the north side of the residence.
I informed Wally that something was wrong and I worried there is something structurally wrong. He said there was nothing wrong with the roof it is just cosmetic. I asked him if the door frames running along the seam of that portion of the double wide had anything to do with the dip in the roof. He told me they level out the floor and spray this “foam stuff” in the seam and then lag bolt the trailers together, reassuring me that the roof was just a cosmetic issue. I listened and informed him if it were cosmetic only then I wasn’t worried about it being replaced. Weeks went by and they continued work on the residence fixing things here and there but I still kept looking at the dip in the roof wondering if I should have them fix it. I called the same license contractor and asked him if he believed there was more than just a cosmetic issue. He said yes he believed it was more than just cosmetic.
The next day I made contact with the contractor working out at the property and informed him I wanted the roof fixed. He then contacted Wally and Wally put a work order in with the factory to have it fixed. A week or two went by and it was time for me to close on the residence. I met with Tim and _____ who were very nice. They conducted the walk through with me of the house. We found minor issues which were listed on walk through paperwork I signed. Most of the cosmetic things had been nearly completed other than touch ups here and there. The cabinets were still dinged and damaged and there were some caulking issues. We left and felt good knowing the roof was going to be fixed and the other interior cosmetic issues would be fixed as well. We moved in on 10/12/2018. During our move we found multiple other issues.
• We were told the house would be thoroughly cleaned. It was not, just vacuumed and wiped down.• The shower nozzle in the master bedroom was not screwed on and it leaks behind the wall.
• The baseboards in the guest bathroom are not flush against the floor leaving a large gap.
• The bullnose corner in the hallway to the spare rooms is still at a 90 degree angle at the bottom.
• The vinyl flooring does not sit flush against each other leaving gaps in between most if not all of them.
• The cabinets still have not been fixed.
• The cracks in the exterior siding have not been fixed.• The living room fan still wobbles and is not balanced.
• When checking the fan I found that one of the mount cover screws had been replaced by a wood screw and someone decided to color the back end of the screw with a sharpie marker in an attempt to blend it in. Due to the mount to the fan is now ruined because it destroyed the threads.
• On the floor there is a piece of trim to cabinetry missing.
• There was still plastic cut but not fully removed from most of the appliances and cabinets.
• There were bubbles/raised spots in the vinyl flooring which I pulled up and found out that there was an excessive amount of glue under the tile.• The master bathroom toilet doesn’t flush very well and I have had to use a plunger on it twice in the past 4 days.
• The reveal in the front door is not complete. Can still see sunlight coming in from the outside.
• One of the joists in the mother-in-law quarters is not correct or twisted causing a bulge in the ceiling.
The roof though is the main problem. The contractor from the factory came out and removed the shingles on 10/17/2018. This is the same contractor who came out and did the exterior dormer in the front which looks amazing. While he was working I would periodically go on the roof and take pictures. I and he found multiple issues. The seam that connects the triple wide to the double wide was not installed correctly. It appears that when the factory put the triple wide portion together they did not measure correctly and cut corner in every way they could which in turn caused the guys that bolted the home together to cut corners as well.
• There appears to be a different pitch to the triple wide portion as to the double wide portion which is causing the dip in the roof.• There is different shapes and sizes of plywood stuffed near the seam as if they were trying to hide the flaw.
• The cuts on the plywood are not straight.
• There is large gaps in between multiple pieces of plywood.
• The plywood is missing the clips which marry them together making the roof strong and together as a whole roof.
• When you walk on the section of roof where the shingles have not been pulled up you can feel the bend in the plywood which tells me multiple clips are missing there as well.• There is multiple different shingles that are torn which in the long run will cause leaks.
• There are staples all over the roof which in the long run will cause leaks.
• The shingles are not spaced properly both length way and width ways which will cause issues in the future.
• There is not a vent on the eve of the triple wide portion of the home.
• There was not roofing felt put over the plastic which covered the seam.• There were exposed nails that weren’t covered by other shingles.
• The fascia board is off by 1 to 1.5 inches on both sides of the home. (North and South)
• The shingles do not cover some portions of the flashing and hang at least a ¼ of an inch over the edge of the roof which will cause the water to run back into the home not away from the home.
• There was a large piece of flashing stuffed under the shingles at the pitch which tells me they knew there was an issue but were just trying to hide it.• There were shingles stuffed under pieces of plywood which tells me they were trying to shim the roof with them or just didn’t care to remove them when they tried to cover up the mistake.
Due to these above listed issues the home is not structurally sound. There are many other issues with the home and because they still have not been fixed I feel as if Wally and Devon don’t really care about the consumer. They just care about getting their portion of the sale. Again I feel like I went to a used car lot and was sold this used car on the promises of things being fixed but they never will be. These issue are not minor issues, these are major issues. This is not a $5,000 used car, this is a $266,000 investment that I wanted for me, my wife, and two children. I want my entire roof replaced, someone to come in and fix all the little cosmetic things wrong with it, and to be able to grow with my family in this new home.
My worry is if there is this many things wrong with the home now, then what else is wrong with it that I cannot see! What other corners were cut other than what is already known? What is going to break on me in the future when there isn’t a warranty any longer? I don’t know what type of vetting process you have to ensure things are being built correctly coming out of the factory but something needs to be changed. This home was poorly put together and now I am dealing with it 4 days into it. I have recommended you to a couple different people who have purchased a home with you guys one being my parents. I now regret the recommendation because I worry about the quality of their homes. I don’t want to have to hire a real estate attorney to get these issues fixed but I will if I have to.

Some family friends had looked at buying a home from Clayton Homes and they informed my wife. They ended up not purchasing and went a different route, but we ultimately decided to go with Clayton. The process was good. Jeni, the sales rep, was outstanding and we enjoyed interacting with her. However, the mortgage company that they used wanted a bunch of stuff that we felt wasn’t necessary because my wife and I have extremely good credit. There was a lot of things going on with it. Even so, Jeni's customer service was top-notch. She was always there for us and responded very quickly. She was also informative and trustworthy.
Another thing is, a lot of the things that we requested were not done at the factory, and so we had to wait a long amount of time to get those items corrected when they were on the initial build report and they just weren’t done. One thing that was very frustrating to me is the way our home faces the north, and that’s where they put our thermostat. When we were initially walking through, I’d asked it to be placed in a different spot and they chose not to do that. They said they couldn’t because that was the way the plan was initially drawn up and I can’t deviate from that plan because that’s the way it was approved. I felt deceived at that point because I was told that these homes were completely customizable. I am also paying a lot more bill than I wanted.
The back doors are still not correct, and there’s a cool front blowing in. It’s a 16 mile an hour wind, and I can feel the cold air coming around the door. I’m having to play catch-up and constantly email and get these people to come back and it takes a long time because they’re busy. It’s frustrating to me because I want it done now, and obviously, they can’t. Still, the New Braunfels office has been very diligent in trying to get these things corrected. So I have no doubt that they’ll get it fixed. I just have doubt in the time frame that they’ll do it.

We had to get rid of the old home before we could put the new one in, but we were ready by the time I ordered our new home and got it here. I like the quality of our Clayton home.

Clayton Homes was good to me and they were very informative. I worked with Scott and he was very nice and did exactly what he said he would do. They had a house I like, and it was a cheaper alternative than stick-built. I just revamped it a little bit. They had the bar coming off the wall, and I put it in the center. Anytime I had something wrong, Clayton came. I’ve not had any trouble with them. I had a door with a hinge that broke and I had a cabinet drawer that fell in, and they came and fixed those. I had some molding issues, and they came and fixed it, too. If I called and didn’t get them, they would call me right back. I have recommended Clayton a couple of times.

I would go back and ask questions again and they helped me a lot. The only problem I'm having with the home is my backdoor. When it rains real hard, the rain is blowing in over the top of my backdoor. And from different ones I've talked to, they've had problems with them, too. I've talked to them about it. Also, a few days before a hurricane hit, I got out of the trailer. I felt like it was a good, sturdy home, but I didn't want to be there because I knew our power would go out. Clayton Homes' home buying process was great but we're not happy about how they put the home together. For the first couple of weeks that we're in here, they told us to find some things that are wrong and if there's anything, we have that first year of warranty where they come and fix everything. We did something to the lights in our bathroom and when my fiancé went to go take the lights down for us to change some stuff, he noticed that how they had hooked up the light and stuff were very wrong, which could have caught the house on fire. Every time I call the company in Hammond that we're going through and I need something done or if I need to get somebody out here, they're on the ball with things.
We've had two guys come out here from Vanderbilt, the factory, to come and work on the trailer. The first guy did a lot of things, but he didn’t really do some of the things that were supposed to get done. I told them, whenever the guy comes back for the third time to fix my cabinets and stuff, I recommend him to come out, not this other man. Now, we're having some issues with our account with our bank in Vanderbilt. It showed that it was taken out and was paid, and now, they're saying that it didn’t go through. So, it's just a big mess that we're dealing with right now. Other than that, the overall process with Clayton Home, getting the home and everything was fine. I just wish they put this trailer together a little bit better than what they did because it seemed that the floor model was put together better than ours, and it's just a display.
The man who helped us there was amazing. He was on the ball with everything. He made sure that our questions were answered, any problems that needed to be solved were solved. He did a really, really good job with helping us. Everybody up there is doing a good job at making sure everything is getting done here if we needed.

One time, we were shopping for a property. I had a realtor at the time who kept telling us there was nothing out there but then I saw Clayton Homes on Craigslist. So, I had the realtor meet us at Clayton and went from there in buying our home. The house we got was perfect and couldn't have been designed any better. Though the outside is great, the roof needs help. Based on the inspection of the roof by another contractor, Clayton didn't do the roof right. When they did the marrying together in the center, all they did was put a ridge cap going from side to side but there was no backing up there. Recently, we had hail which went through the roof like bullets. Without any backing, that is just going to happen again. Currently, I have a company through my insurance provider covering my roof to fix it the way it should have been. Still, Clayton was quick to respond to any other issues we had.

When my wife and I were looking to move out of a two-storey condo into a one-floor place, we looked at low-income housing but found that it was too out of price for low income. We then looked at Clayton Homes on 291, first of two locations that we went to, and they could not have been worse. They were not helpful at all and they didn’t have samples. They told us to go online and check them. They kept wanting us to buy there and we kept going there because they were the only one that had the model home that we wanted. But we ended up going with a home through Clayton Homes in Greer and our experience could not have been better. When we pulled in the parking lot, David was up there. He was out of his chair in the lobby waiting for us. He was fantastic. He was very, very patient and he answered all of our questions, and my wife had lots of questions.
We walked around, looked at things and investigated, and David showed us sample after sample. So then we went with the Ranger 56 and it was ordered in December. We noticed though that in the master bedroom, it had a tub and a shower, and the tub had a curved step on it. My wife and I thought of it as an accident waiting to happen for seniors, because we’re in our early 70s. So, we opted to have that taken out and have a walk-in shower put in, and gave us a double safe.
My wife also chose her things, the cabinets in the kitchen and added a few things like that. And then we added an 8 x 22 foot porch on the front and a ramp on the back, all of which added to the cost. But it’s one of the loveliest homes in that development. My wife never got to live in that home though. It was delivered to Clayton Homes on January the 10th, the morning she passed away. And then it was April when they actually set it up on the site. Still, I could not have been more pleased with my experience with Clayton in Greer. They bent over backwards for me. I’m in a travelling ministry and I was gonna be away from February until mid-June, and the water company Blue Ridge Water, was giving me a hard time as they said they could not set up an account until the home was on site. So, I asked if I could I write them a check, which I did, and gave it to David, and they held it.
Clayton also took care of setting me up with Duke Power. We had a water leak in the house once it was put in, and they found that it was a broken water main that was the owner’s problem but he didn’t fix it. So Clayton came in and they fixed it. And then the owner wasn’t happy with the way they graded it. He got on my case, and so I went to Clayton and told them that the guy was giving me a hard time. They said that they have fixed his pipe and the least he can do was grade for us. But they still told me that they will do it for me. So they came back to the site and brought the equipment in, and they regraded everything to the owner’s satisfaction, which they really didn’t have to do. Through the whole process, Clayton kept in touch with me, updating me as to what’s going on and what’s happening when.
Ken, thank you so much for taking the time to share your home buying experience with us. We're so glad to hear that our Greer location was so helpful and that you enjoyed working with them! It's also great that you got to customize the home to meet your needs. We're so sorry to hear about your wife's passing. The buying process was easy. The Clayton Homes reps did great and communicated very well. However the quality of the home was lacking. We had a linoleum floor and there were stuff under the linoleum coming through like nails and it had some cat marks on it. They reimbursed us but still we had to go through their process of having it done again. Also, in drawing the water out into the water system, they hid one pipe needed to get it all the way down where the guys that tie it in could see it. It never got tied in so it filled the duct up. Clayton came out and fixed that, but the factory needs to up their quality control. Despite that, I'd recommend Clayton Homes.

Our son who is a veteran shopped around for a mobile home. Eventually he chose to buy a Clayton since he wanted one with their floor plan. We helped him buy it and it was very easy. We signed the purchase agreement, a build agreement, and then we had to put a partial payment down. My wife and I are debt-free, so it was easy for us to get a home equity line of credit to be able to do that. On the other hand, our son couldn't get a VA loan until the house is built. So, we subsidized payments for him until Clayton got it built.
The rep whom we worked with had excellent knowledge of the home-buying process. They let my son and daughter-in-law customize the floor plan so they got to change the sink, shower and bathroom layout. They also did away with one of the double doors in the front of the unit and added a French window. Additionally, Clayton stood behind its word when it came to coming in and doing an inspection as well as repairing anything that was less than promised.

Updated on 01/23/2019: I have a Case # and I have yet to get my problem resolved. Can you tell me how long this usually takes? The people from TruMH in Alabama contacted me, and the repair guy has been in contact...but no one has repaired the mobile home yet!
Original Review: When we purchased the mobile home, it sat in the yard for 4 weeks - due to rain. They could have moved sooner because there were 4 or 5 days that it did not rain that no one showed up to work to do anything. The Underside Belly was sliced open in 5 places. They repaired with black duct tape... it isn't new anymore - I complained because it was not in pristine condition when I bought it... It came damaged and they would not give any allowances on it. There were 2 holes in the Master Bedroom floor where something came through the underside. I had to wait another 10 days on carpet and flooring... They had to patch the floor with pieces so it is not solid pieces anymore.
I asked for some kind of monetary relief but was turned down because it was fixed. However, it is not new... and I purchased a damaged mobile home. I am clearly upset and will remain upset... and would NEVER use Clayton Homes or promote them. It would have been different if they would have taken some off of the purchase price. They would not have accepted the mobile home if they bought it brand new! I have pictures of all of the holes and rips and tears. While I do like the mobile home, I am unsatisfied that there was no compensation for me at all. I am not trying to get something for nothing, but I feel that I paid for a BRAND NEW, PRISTINE mobile home, and got a mobile home that had to be repaired before it was set up properly!

Buying a home from Clayton was very easy. I’ve used the local people who were a block away from where I lived all my life so I knew them very well and I trusted them. Rob, who recommended us to Clayton, knows a lot of other companies since he has sold real estate and manufactured homes before, but he likes Clayton. Brenda, the one who sold us the home, got us everything we wanted at about half the price. We got floors without carpet because we didn't want them. And she called us just the other day to check on us and see if we needed anything, and this has been at least six months since we moved in. They also fix things and don’t charge anything. Or if they do, what they charge you is exactly what you pay. And unlike others who has contractors that would promise you things and you wouldn’t get it, and you never see them again, with Clayton, they’d be with you even after a year if you need them. They’re all wonderful people.
Then, the product was as good, if not better, than the people. When you buy some other trailer, you won't get the sheetrock. But with Clayton, you get both insulation and the sheetrock which is absolutely gorgeous. My wife’s aunt bought a Tazewell house. It looked as good as ours from the outside, but when you go inside, it’s got those awful panels that you see in a trailer. She was sad about it ‘cause she’d seen ours. The house may be a very good product and cheaper, but there was no sheetrock which makes a world of difference.
We’ve been living in our home for six months already and we’re tickled to death and very well pleased with what we got. We were sold and we’ve told everybody. In fact, we’ve had people come up and look at it. We also went to Rutledge, Tennessee where the place was built and had a two-hour tour. We encouraged everyone about how happy we were with our home. We also encouraged everybody in that factory to keep on with the products that they were building because their work's great and very reasonable-priced.
Those people that buy those big, huge, high-ceiling homes and pay $350 a month insurance are a thing of the past. Clayton Homes is the home of the future. Even my doctor wants one so bad. With it, you don't need gas because you got the heat pump. You freeze it after the summer and burn up in the winter so for electricity cost, we only pay $75 a month which is unreal and fantastic at the same time with the way they build these houses with insulation. The monthly cost to maintain it is a third of what you pay when you lived in your traditional home.
We talked to builders and they told me it would've been a lot more than $200,00 in two years to build. We got ours in six months, and it cost about $100,000, but we had to do the road and all that ‘cause we put it high up on a mountain. But for a beautiful product, that price was very comfortable. It’s a hive for retired people people who needs to downsize because they would not only save money when they buy a Clayton home, but also every month. It would be hard initially because they'd be making less money but at the same time, they'd also meet their cost in maintaining a wonderful life and lifestyle.
Wow! Thank you so much for your detailed feedback, Jerry! We are thrilled to read your review and to know that you are so satisfied! That's so neat that you got to tour your Home Building Facility, aren't they impressive!? Congratulations on your new home, we are proud to have you as a customer!

Don't buy from Clayton Homes. It's all a lie. They make it seem like in the beginning they know what they're talking about but when it comes down to actually coming down to the work they will say they're going to do this and that and months later they finally start and then they dug where some of where our septic was suppose to go to still on hold. We signed our loan back in June and it's now October and alls I have is my yard tore up with a half drive and a bunch of gravel and a big hole in my yard where they mess up. Now nothing is going on.
They say they're going to come out and then never show up. Then Dave ** gave out our names and address to some people that know my husband's aunt and she told me he did that and then his boss acts like they're lying because that's what Dave said to him. He never did that but Dave has lied to us the entire time of working with him so we're not working with him now and I guess with his boss not really sure because his boss treats us like crap also. If I was you run. Don't even mess with these guys. It's not worth all of the stress we have been put through. Who knows when and if I will ever get my house. Every time they want us to come in to sign something we go in. Dave never even remembers why he even had us come in.
One time we had an appointment. There was someone that had walked in and he told them we have an appointment with him and she said, "Oh ok" and said, "Oh it's fine. I can help you. You guys were first" and then ignored us for a good 30 min. What's the point of an appointment. They treat you terrible once they have you roped in. There's no communication with Dave or the soil scientist Cale Or with you at all. Trust me. Run. There's so much more. I could go on and on. By the way it made me have to like a star at least one. If I had it my way there wouldn't be any liking of the stars. Clayton Homes is awful.

My sister purchased a home from Clayton and she had a good experience, so I went there also. The buying process was rough but Clayton made it easy. It was a lot to take on being a first-time homebuyer but they helped me understand everything and I felt like they weren’t just trying to sell me a house. They were trying to help me out. They made sure every question I had was answered and I didn’t have any questions. The quality of the house is good but I had a couple of issues after I was set up. The maintenance man came out though and took care of it and helped me out with everything we had going on. Clayton Homes treated me well and I had a good experience with the company.
Congratulations on buying your first home, Jamie! We're so thrilled that you chose Clayton. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us! Buying a home can definitely be overwhelming, but we're glad to know your Home Center worked so well with you! Thanks again for the kind words!

Clayton Homes' reps did a good job explaining the aspects of home buying to me. I had a great experience as they seemed to care about me as an individual. Furthermore, I liked the price of the home they were selling. I bought a home from them and though it had its issues, Clayton's team came out and fixed them right away.

This April, I went there and sought out the trailer that I wanted and started doing paperwork and it was about a good three-month process until I moved in. The quality of the house is good and their reps, Josh and Tim, were always straightforward with me.

We bought our house in 2007. Currently we have to replace all windows in the home due to leaking and water damage! Windows were just stapled in place. The adhesive strip backing was never removed. The crown molding was cut short inside and molding through the house was sloppy... We brought this to the attention of our representative and was told it would be fixed. It was not just made to look like it was!! Ceiling paint was used on the walls not what I had asked for and just recently realized this due to having to fix a spot on the wall and needed the paint! Flooring is squeaking now and cabinets are not quality like we were told! I thought we bought a really good quality home but I realize now we did not! Extremely frustrating since the place we bought it at is now closed and didn't know who to contact. Had I known what I know now I would have bought a completely different homemade by another company.

Buying from Clayton was good. The consultant was wonderful and he was really good. However, the total quality of the products in the modular sucks. I had no idea the products were going to be so cheap when the modular got there. I'm really disappointed. I had the front door and backdoor locks replaced three different times. The plumbing on the toilet sucks as well. The steps are really cheap and inferior. Also, I assumed in doing this for $60,000 that there would be a dishwasher in there and one outlet on the front of the trailer, not on the back. Why would you want an outlet on the back of your modular home for power? The other thing was there were no interior fans present. It's 120 degrees down here in Bullhead. I don’t get it. I wouldn't recommend Clayton to another person because of that.

My parents owned land where I live and I needed a home that could park itself on the additional piece of land that they had. For that purpose, it would have to be either a mobile home or a prefab. Clayton was an economical choice and I got a really good deal from them. They had a model that was on their lot for two years and it had a lot of the things I was looking for in a mobile home. It kind of knocked my socks off when I came in and saw it. There were some features that were nicer than what my house was.
Previously, I had gone to another Clayton location in Conroe where I was actually moving to. The guys there blew me off and didn't want to deal with me at all. I would call them and they would say that they'd call me back but then I never heard from them. Conversely, the Clayton in Rosenberg had staff who always call me back right away. They were all about customer service and were really good with pricing. I was super impressed with them.
Over the six months that I've been in my Clayton home, there has been some settling. There have been doors that started sticking. Still, these are an easy fix. Overall, Clayton is a very good choice when thinking about purchasing a home. Their mobile home models have come so far that it surpasses some brick-and-mortar homes.
Your review knocked our socks off, Jennifer! Thank you so much for taking the time to share the details of your home buying experience. We're so glad to hear everything went well in Rosenberg and that you're so happy with your new home. We appreciate your business and hope you continue enjoying your new house for many years to come!

I had a good experience buying a Clayton home and I have been in it for more than six months now. But it's been very wishy-washy with everything now that I've actually purchased the house and there are several things that need to be fixed. We had an electrical problem so Clayton sent out an electrician. He put a hole in the wall, didn’t even tell me and left. I had to call and report it.
Then there is a hole in one of the walls when it arrived at my property and that has never been fixed either. Also, there are still shipping boards on the outside of the house and one of the stands is hanging from the ceiling. I was told that there was a guy working on the issues but he was fired for some reason. So, they called and got the pieces and a rep spoke with me to get the list again. That's been almost a month now waiting on the parts to come in and for the maintenance to fix the issues. It's very hectic. They also said they were gonna mail me a check for all the inconveniences but then I got a text message saying I'm not gonna get a gift card.

We live in an area that's extremely hot. So, we're looking for a house with heat insulation and Clayton filled the bill. Javier was my salesman from there and went out of his way to accommodate what I was looking for. He would have walked their sales lot two more days if need be to find me something. I'm living with my best friend El but he was getting cold feet about the purchase. On one day El would call Javier and tell him that we weren't going to buy the home. On a different day, he would tell Javier that he would talk to me and then Javier would call me and I'd tell him to give it another day. Still, whatever we needed, Javier was there to help us out.
I bought the maximum I could get for the lowest possible price. I guess I got what i paid for. I thought the floors would be level but then they are not. I can roll a marble here and it would go up and down hills, valleys and pitches. Still, these are things that services tried to fix. If I had a 14x40 mobile home, people wouldn't notice so much but I have a double wide 28x40. Fortunately, my floors are wonky in the bathroom and in the pantry of my kitchen so it's not as noticeable. Also, the insulation and windows are fantastic. I would definitely recommend Clayton Homes.

They were also excellent with the buying process, as far as getting help and getting to where I needed to be to get the house on the property. They were nice, convenient, and friendly too. There's a Clayton place right where I lived before but I had a bad experience with them. So the manager of the park I live in now suggested I check out Clayton Homes of Ashland. And I'd recommend the salesman I got because he did real good with me. I liked him. I have a lot of health problems and I'm disabled. And he was nice and good to me. He did what he could do. They did their job and I put a bunch of money down.
They should have put other appliances in though. They put the cheapest thing in, a Frigidaire, and the whole stove gets hot when you run the oven. I don't think that stove needs to be in a mobile home 'cause they go up in flames so fast. And you have the top, the sides and the back of the stove against the wall. I wasn't happy cooking with it and I had to get a new stove on my own. Now I've got a stove sitting out underneath my pergola. They oughta come get that stove, which is brand-new, and they can put it somewhere else. But other than that, I haven't had any problems. Once you're done with them, they're done. You don't talk to them anymore, which is good.

My husband had three strokes and got some paralyzed hand and the side of his face. We lived in New Braunfels and I have two daughters down here in the Houston area who wanted us to come down here so they could help us out, which they do constantly. My eldest daughter, Priscilla, went looking for a house for us. I lived in a Clayton home for 23 1/2 years and I liked their service. I also liked the build of the home which was quite heavy. So, I told Priscilla that I wanted another Clayton home and that was what we got.
I looked at houses on the internet and looked for Clayton. Then I picked out one and I didn't wanna pay a whole lot for it because we're retired and this would be our last home. But Priscilla decided that I wouldn't like to live in the one that I had looked at, so she found another one. We paid $500 down and Clayton held the order for me until I had our old house sold. So when we came, we called Clayton and they brought the house out then set it up.
It has nine-foot ceilings, which is really nice, but it was designed by a man. It does not have a linen closet and doesn't have closets near the storage. I am now storing linens in every little crack and cranny. Compared to that, I had three walk-in closets in my other house and one of them was huge. The two closets in the two smaller bedrooms and in the master bedroom of our Clayton home are fairly decent ones but the storage is up in the top that I can barely reach the second shelf. It is the same thing with the cabinets in the kitchen and I can't get up on the stools anymore. I'm 85 years old. So, I have all this storage just sitting there empty.
Plus, the carpet is the ugliest I have seen in my life. It is army brownish and greenish, but I can I can live with that and replace that myself someday. I don't like the tub either. It is one of those big, long, deep, and soaking tubs. I've tried to bathe in it twice and I could hardly get out of it. I don't like showers but I now I take showers.
Other than that, I worked with Cruz at the place on 288 in Houston for this recent purchase and he was the nicest person. The manager and the lady that worked in the office, Jen, were also fantastic. I had some problems with the house after I got moved in it and they took care of everything. I would recommend them. They didn't design or build this house. They just sold it and the selling experience was very good.
When we bought the other Clayton home in October 1994, we went and bought it in Seguin, Texas at Luv Homes and the guy that sold it to us was super nice. He even took us to Waco to see some of the houses being built, so you can't get any better than that. But I looked at the pictures of them building now in Waco, and it is totally different. That 20-something years made a lot of difference.
Dorothy, we appreciate you detailed feedback on your home and your home buying experience. Thank you so much! It's so nice that your daughters were anxious to help you all out, you raised them well! Your feedback regarding the design elements is very important and we will pass it along to our Home Building Group! Since they are taking so long now I am stuck with rent plus loan payment. When the Clayton Homes saleswoman said it would take 2 weeks. That was a month and a half ago. Their contractors are very rude, they have destroyed property and act like they have done nothing wrong. If I was to do it again, I would buy a house not a manufactured home. Unless something changes soon. I was so excited to get this home, I loved it, now it's turned into a nightmare.

The home buying process was easy and the people in the offices were very good. However, building the house took forever because Clayton Homes didn’t have enough people to do the construction. There were also a few things that needed to get done that they haven’t been able to. The countertops have bubbles in them and they were loose, and it was not a very good countertop. Also, the outdoor light in the back didn’t have a cover for it. It was just a light bulb. Then Clayton had to do little modifications because we had them put linoleum, and there were bubbles in the linoleum when we walk in certain areas or towards to the washroom. We had to move our cabinet because it would be shaking.
They said that they were waiting to get a contractor or something that they could hire that will be able to come and check the problems that we had. We moved in the middle of November 2017 after going through this process for a year and there were no workers for them to get things taken care of. A year is a long time to wait for our house to get done especially since all they gotta do is set it up and put it on. We had to stay in an apartment a lot longer than we were hoping to until this house was finished. It's been exasperating.
Peter, we appreciate your feedback. We are going to be looking into the repairs you're waiting on and then a member of our Customer Advocacy Team will reach out to you directly.

The actual home-buying process at Clayton was the easy part. We bought a lot model, which was a lot faster instead of having to wait another four months after the loan process so that made it a lot easier. However, we had some problems at the very end with the closing of the loan and some mistakes that the loan officer had made. We had a total of 66 acres and we were putting up 15 acres for sale, and they were to add the remaining balance I had on the land, which was 18,000, to the whole loan. At the end of the process, the guy that came out and estimated didn’t finish the whole process, and they didn’t put the land sale on there. So, we were $9,000 short. Now we have two payments instead of one. Aside from that loan process, everything else was fantastic. The houses are awesome. They are greatly built and the customization is really nice. Plus all the options are really good. We'd definitely pass on the word to others.
Thank you so much for your feedback, James! We are glad to hear the home buying process itself went well. However, we are sorry to hear about the setbacks with the financing aspect. This is great information for us to get from our customers to help us work with our lenders and better our processes. We appreciate your review and your business!

Clayton Homes has been around for a long time and I’ve never heard anything bad about them. They’re proud of their name. They also had exactly what we were looking for. They're energy-efficient and we thought it was cool that they offer financing. So it wasn’t a mom-and-pop trailer shop. These people know what they are doing and they’re successful at it, and there’s a reason why they’re successful. I drive by them everyday and I told my wife to go down there and pick a new trailer so she did. Then my granddad and I went there and told them which we wanted, and they've been taking care of us ever since.
They were coming from all corners, telling us that they did financing and this and that. But we told them not to worry about it and that we would take care of it. We wanted to get something without interest. In fact, that was the only way we could do it. We wanted where I could get it and get it for a cheap interest rate then I would still be able to get it paid off where I’m not paying too much interest. I took a loan out on my inheritance CDs then we paid cash for the house. We wrote Clayton Homes a check. Other than that, everybody was quick on the feet, trying to get us into a home as quick as possible. They were all kinds of help. But they knew there was no way they could’ve beat the interest rate I got, which was only 1%.
Clayton has been real good to me. Jamie and Lisa both get a hold of me from time to time and ask me if everything’s going good. Anytime that I've had problems, I've always called one of them and they've immediately gotten on the ball. There were problems with my air conditioner this summer. It wouldn’t wanna work. But it was a simple thing, a factory deal. However, I've got two small kids under four and John was quick to say, “Hey, we’ll get you to a motel room. We’ll take care of it.” They’ve been real loyal and they back themselves.
A lot of times you sign a piece of paper and people say they would do this and that but they don’t. They try to find a small crack where they can slip through to get out of it. But Clayton has never ever tried to veer away from responsibility. They’ve always been, “What do we need to do? We’ll do it.” It’s always been, “Whatever it takes,” and I like that. We actually plan on buying another trailer from them to put at my duck camp in Arkansas. I would also tell others to call them and go to Clayton.
Thank you so much for the positive and detailed feedback, Cole! We are thrilled to hear that your home buying experience went well and that you were able to get the home you wanted and pay for it how you wanted! It's also great to hear that John, Jamie, and Lisa all took such good care of you and your family. Congratulations on your new house!

We never had any experience with mobile homes putting it on a lot, and we had gone with the other one in Millington but they weren’t friendly and helpful. We were driving through Wilkesboro and we’ve been thinking about Clayton Homes for some time. We decided to stop in and see them. When we started talking to the lady, she realized quickly that we were very serious in buying a house and she didn’t beat around the bush. She treated us nicely and we were extremely satisfied with her. A lot of times I did not understand a lot of things that they were talking about. All I had to do was call and ask her, and she would spell it out. She would go into a lot of detail about the certain thing that was going on. She didn’t cut around the bush, she told us what it was and that helped us make a better decision.
The whole setup took three months and for the quality, it’s a fair price for $48,000. We didn’t get any choice on the wallpaper and flooring but we did on the vinyl siding and shutters. It was not a top paid or top cost material, but for the price, it was done finely. Right now, we are in the year of service after it was finished and it’s a hassle to get them to come out. I understand that maybe they are pressed for time and they have other people that they have to get to, but we have things that need to be fixed and adjusted in our house. The door in the bathroom has had holes in it since they brought it. They replaced one door but they didn’t bring the second one. I appreciate all the hard work that everybody has done so far, but I wish that we can get somebody to come out from time to time. Still, I would recommend Clayton Homes.

They had problems with it and they put it in at a bad time. The people that built the house could have done a better job, but it was okay. I had everything fixed that needs to be fixed on it.

I went through Clayton Homes in Easley and the gentleman that works there has done an excellent job. I was in need of a home right then, and he got the process started and had me in a home within three weeks. I couldn't ask for anything better than that when I was having to sleep in my truck. I also like the home and it's what I needed for the time. It's for me and my son and it works out good.
However, there was always something wrong once they got it set up like a door was not shutting right, and the people they had to come out were excellent. They were out there in no time, fixing these problems I've had. I called them out to replace the floor one time. They came out and the guy that they used had a technique to fix the floor without taking it up, and the vinyl looks brand-new. I couldn't even tell anything was wrong with it. If others are marketing for a mobile home, that's where they need to go. I had a couple of other places and it was nothing but a joke. All they were worried about was money, but Clayton wasn't. Their concern was getting me in a home and that's all that mattered.
We're so glad to hear that our Easley location was able to get you what you needed when you needed it, Douglas! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We hope that you and your son enjoy the home for many years to come!

There have been problems at my Clayton home as far as some bathroom leaking, so they've had to come back and repair those issues. However, their guy Vincent is very slow to respond. Even the management can’t get him to respond. Also, I’ve been following up on the issues that have been out of the rep’s control and he’s just forwarding them to their service department. Their service lets it skip for months, so I've been without a bathroom that long. Plus, the house is now not level. I had to put a level on the house, take pictures and show it to Clayton so that they could see the issue. But overall, my experience has been good. Clayton Homes does the best they can and they're working on their issues.

I’m really satisfied with Clayton Homes. They explained everything that I needed to know and the process took two weeks to get everything squared away and approved. Brenda, my home consultant, went over the trailer with me. She was very professional in what she was doing and took very good care of me. Once, it was winter time and I thought Clayton could put something down with the ground exposed but they couldn’t get out here as quick as they could. However, the center of the ground piled up enough to do what needed to be done and it didn't take them time to get it done. Brenda worked well with that.

I made the mistake of visiting a dealer's lot just to view a trailer similar to the one I wanted to buy. It was a four bedroom and I wanted a two bedroom. The people at the dealership were not the least friendly or helpful. I did not ask them about ordering me the two bedroom model. I visited another dealer to order the trailer I wanted, and when they found out I had been to the other dealer, they told me they would not help me. I tried two more dealers and got the same response. The rejection of my business was not immediate at any of the three. Apparently they have a way to check the other dealers for the names of potential customers. I was even quoted a delivered and set up price by the last one before they told me their manager said not to deal with me.

We call again today because nobody called or showed up. They told us they called the FHA people on Friday and usually takes 24-48 hrs to get someone to do the walkthrough. I'm sick to death of Clayton Homes lying to us. They should of had these people already scheduled. Because the A/C people put the A/C in last Tuesday. I will never recommend this place to anybody. But it wasn't Clayton's fault because they couldn’t move forward until they got the okay from the financial part. I felt like the banks dragged their feet from one thing to another. Clayton gave me six different ones which I was kinda dumbfounded to all of them. I went with Cascade which was based in Arizona, and I thought that was what took so long. I went through several Claytons and I would start off telling them where I plan on putting the house and what I was gonna be doing. All of the other ones were selling me a higher end house that isn't my style and wouldn't fit in with what I was trying to do. I had specifics in mind of what I needed and I wanted the side door to come into like a mud room, utility room and have the master off of that. I'd put my house on a working farm in the middle of hayfield and I would be coming in and out with muddy boots and things like that.
I finally decided to work with the ones in Farmville that seemed to have it together, and they've been working together for a long time so they knew exactly what I was looking for. They didn't try to sell me something I didn't need or want and it was awesome. The application process was very fast and we continued going forward with taking up different features for the house that I was gonna get. It was great. When I was talking to Lisa, she knew what I was gonna need and didn't show me anything that wasn't gonna fit with what I was looking for. There was a house on the lot that was the house I selected and it was perfect.
I got in to where I wanted to live a lot faster than I would have had to in going through fixed loans and I don't have to have a construction loan and several closings, which was also helpful. From the beginning, I was told where I wanted to put the house was a bit of a challenge, but they got it done. The team I worked with in Farmville was amazing and awesome. I couldn't have asked for better service and I've already recommended to several people.
That's so great to hear, Amy! We appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your home buying experience and about how well it went at our Farmville location! It's so great to know that you were able to get exactly what you wanted and needed. Congratulations on your new home!

Every staff in that office has gone above and beyond to help us out on this deal and answer any question that arose at the time. Among them was Sherry and we called her if there was something wrong. Then she called somebody out to take care of it. We started working with them in September of last year then we moved in around February of this year. We are also very pleased with our electricity bill on our Clayton home. It’s everything that was advertised on it. If you're in the market for a home, go to Clayton. I would recommend them. I checked other brands and Clayton's homes are sturdier and well-built in terms of the materials, the size, and the way they are constructed. Plus, they are insulated better than any other home I've ever been to and that also helps with the energy billing. I already knew what I was looking for and I went in, saw the home I liked, and I bought it. The salesperson I worked with was helpful and my interactions with him were great. If I had questions, I called and he always answered my call or called me back.
The home that I got was ready to go. They came in and set the home up, and I moved in. It's summertime and I keep my air conditioner on at 74 degrees, and it doesn't' get too hot in here. Right now, they're working with me as I'm going to take up the carpeting in the living room and they're also ordering the regular flooring for the kitchen. We just had a nightmare with Clayton Homes. I was running around everywhere and Clayton took the deposits but we never got anything back. They gave us the house but they didn't put a damn thing in it. The electric wiring was open and so was the air conditioning and heating vents. We had to have friends come in and they helped us so we can either get it done or they would pay us to do it. So far, the commode water had been retained by the plastic that was under it. Clayton Homes told me they were going to pay us. They even guaranteed us that we would have a driveway and I laughed at them because my driveway is about a half mile long. They never said when they were going to be here. We never got any confirmation out of any of the things we’ve called repeatedly.
I got the kips that's holding the water back and they would put that on in and we should have water but we didn't. I had to call the plumber to get water down there. Also, the lights, the bathroom, and the pantry are so dim. You have to take a flashlight to go in there. I had no heating or air for the whole winter that we were out here. I’m amazed the thing was actually heating because they said they didn’t have the vent work tied up to it. So, between the fireplace and my little electric fireplace in the bedroom, it was the only thing we had keeping that whole house warm. But I'm pleased with Amber. She was the woman that we bought the house from. Clayton kept telling us that they would take care of the issue, and Amber finally did it. Anything that could happen, has happened.

We had a bad experience with Palm Harbor and then a friend of ours reached out and told us to go see his friend over at Clayton Homes. And it was great. He took care of everything we asked him to. We already had an idea of where we wanted to be so he showed us everything that was within our budget. Then he helped us through the financial side of it and any kind of upgrades we wanted to add. He didn’t badger us with a bunch of unnecessary stuff like Palm Harbor did.
The home he set us up with was also exactly what we needed and wanted at the time. But with the way that they put up the shelving in the master closet, they didn’t give us much hanging space. If they change the way it’s designed a little bit, they can add a lot more hanging space for clothes. That was the biggest issue we had. But that was a main project that got taken care of easily. That aside, it’s a good-quality house and if you’re on a budget and that’s what you wanna do, Clayton Homes is definitely the place to go. I’ve also recommended quite a few of my friends over to them.
Thank you, Taylor! We're so glad to hear that everything went well with your home buying experience! Your feedback regarding the closet design is important to us as well, we'll be sure to pass that along to the Home Building Facility where your home was built. Congratulations on your new home!

When I decided to purchase a home, I checked out Clayton and other home manufacturers. The other manufacturers didn't seem like they were built as well as Clayton Homes, so I stuck with Clayton. I checked in to have a home built, but it was more reasonable for me to have the Clayton Home put down, 'cause I was retiring, and I didn't want a big house now. For the price and structure, I felt like it was a good bang for the buck. The home buying process took a while with the finances, but it was good after all that was said and done. Their rep was helpful and even if I didn't get to talk to her too much when I last dealt with her, she's very concerned about any issues that we had in the house. She pointed out a few things that we may have overlooked to make sure that everything was covered that might have been scratched, and we went over all of that kind of stuff.
George over at Clayton Homes where we bought was very helpful and he did a fantastic job working with us. He can answer any questions we had and he stuck with us, 'cause we've been trying for close to two years before we have got it. It took so long because at the time we were starting to finance it, my daughter was still in college, and I had a parent loan. At the time, the parent loan doesn't come until she ends school so the question with the finance company was how much was I gonna be paying a month for the parent loan part, and I couldn't tell them because she wasn’t out of school at the time. But once she's finished, then I negotiated with the student loan people and everything was fine.
We've also had some issues with the paint peeling on the cabinets, and we brought it to their attention. We sent pictures to George and the lady, and the lady dealt with the factory people. The factory people came out and replaced all the cabinet doors that were peeling. They worked hard and did a great job. The cabinets, after they left and all, they need to do the same thing. They even brought new indoor doors because some of them were scratched and minor damaged. When I shut them against the door stopper thing, the wood that goes all the way down the door to keep you from going past and when you shut it, it hits the bottom of that wood. It was off for about a quarter inch, and it was closed at the top. But they brought new doors and replaced all of them.
However, when they brought them from the factory on the truck, there wasn't any paper or cardboard between the doors. It had the tendency to scratch on it so the doors they put on was in a worse shape than the ones that were originally on there. I went on ahead and rehung all the old doors back myself after they had left and brought it to their attention when they came back out with some more doors, but it was like the same thing. They still just stacked them on top of each other. They ended up fixing the main thing that was in the hallway where the two spare bedrooms were by taking the door off in the doorframe and fixing the doorframe 'cause it was the problem and not the door. They fixed all that and got it all painted back.
There are still some issues because of the problem with those particular type of white cabinet. After a period of a little time, the paint kinda chips on them and they're not paintable. If they were painted, we're gonna have brush streaks on them. Right now, they're smooth but they're trying to figure out an alternative on how they're gonna fix the cabinets and they're supposed to send a crew back out to handle that. Overall, their product is sturdy and not cheap, and I feel happy with the quality of our home. If someone asks me about Clayton Homes, I will tell them it was a wise choice to go with them. We spent more to make sure that it was energy efficient, and we had to upgrade on a lot of stuff in there, but it was well worth it. I would highly recommend them over anybody else.
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback, Stephen. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed working with George and that your home buying experience went well. The financing can be complicated, but thank you for sticking with us! The information you provided about the cabinets and how your replacements were transported is very beneficial! We will make sure this feedback gets in the right hands. Congratulations on your new home!

I liked the way Clayton Homes did business. A lot of the other companies I have talked to and looked at just didn't seem to be professional in some ways. At Clayton, the buying process took quite a while, but it was more my fault than it was theirs. They wanted to close it a lot sooner than I did, but there were some things that I had to do and I couldn't close it so they had to wait on me. Still, their rep was on top of the situation. While she bugged me more than I wanted her to, she was trying to do a good job.
I fell in love with the decor as soon as I walked into the home. However, my shower is leaking and I can see evidence of it in the bedroom. I have a year for major things like that, but I'm gonna do some caulking myself before I call Clayton Homes. I wanna make sure that it's not a major water issue under the trailer. On several different occasions, they tried to come to fix things on the punch list and do a little touch-up painting, but I was not able to accommodate them. I'd tell friends that if they were looking for a mobile home, I would highly recommend going over to talk to the people at Clayton Homes over on Moffett Road. They did a great job and I'm very satisfied with them.

Then we ended up looking in the Panama City area. I wanted to give my wife more choices so went to the branch in Alabama and the one that we ended up picking was at that lot. The Suter is the one by Southern Homes and my wife loved it. It is wood on the outside then cedar on the inside. We’re happy with it and everything they’ve done with it.
The person we worked with was real good too. He didn’t play wolf. He gave it straight to us, how it would be and how much it would cost. The financing went well and they were very thorough. We signed the papers off September of last year. Then they finished building the house and we had it installed in January. There are a lot of problems with the 911 service resetting things up here and it’s hard to get permits. But other than that, setting up went well and the mobile home went well. I became interested and I wanted to purchase one. From the beginning to the end, it took me about two years to get the home. I was working on it in 2015 and I had financial obligations that I had to take care of before I actually purchased the home. But Clayton cleared me for everything. It was more on my end than theirs that I had to wait on.
I customized a few features like the slide doors on my pantry and my laundry room. In the master bedroom, what was dividing the bedroom from the shower area was just an open area. So I had them put a slide door there. I also had cosmetic problems that they had to come back for and touch up a little. And it was done in a timely manner. My mom closed on her Clayton Home today at the New Braunfels, TX location. She had been talking with them for months and was very excited to sell her home and make the move to be closer to our family and her grandkids. Being a retired school teacher, we made it very clear that her income is limited and she did not want to get into a situation that would be more than she could handle financially. She was never given a firm estimate of what her monthly payment would be by the loan officer even after repeated calls and questions. She was also told the lot that her home would be on would cost $200/mo less than it actually turned out to be.
At closing, she was told her monthly costs would be about $300 more than expected. The manager Kim, then told her that they could “cancel the contract”. My mom had already sold her home and moved into mine temporarily until the inspections were complete on her new home. A home buying experience should be exciting and enjoyable. My mom left hers in tears. I’m beyond angry that these people cared more about selling the home than being truthful with an older lady who just wanted to be near her family. I got started with Clayton Homes since my dad does a lot of business with them. He does a lot of their septic systems. But I didn’t care for the guy that I had. I was young when I bought the house and he never took me seriously. I was like everybody else trying to buy a house but he didn’t keep me updated through the process. I did a lot of the work by having to talk to the mortgage company myself. I quit going through the guy that I bought it from. The other people there were good though. If I ever called and needed anything, they answered right away and were able to help me.
I dealt with the manager at one of the Houston locations and the way he talked to me was very sweet and welcoming. Every time I called, he made sure that I was taken care of. The lady in the maintenance department was really good too. When the flooring was accidentally ripped, she did the scheduling to have someone come out and fix the flooring. We were looking for a manufactured home. I was on the internet looking for them and Clayton Homes had somewhere very close to what we were looking for. We dealt with Linda back and forth and she went back to her manager to put the deal together. She did everything quickly and the way that we wanted. I liked that she knew her stuff with what we were looking for and what we were talking about. The whole process took about a month and a half.
We bought a custom home and we had everything ready to rock and roll here at this end. So it was a matter of getting a home, getting all that stuff set up, have Clayton come out and put in the census to get all the financials rolling. Linda organized their guys to come in and do the footings. Once the footings were done and set up, they kept knocking it out. Their guy who brought the house down to set it all up was dynamite. We had a couple of issues when starting up but they handled that. Everything’s good now. It was good dealing with Clayton. But they were so messed up with Vanderbilt that I told my son that he has to find his own financing then he could go ahead and buy the home. He would be a lot better off.
The home we got was an energy efficient one to start with. Then I went ahead and did some major renovations to make it more energy efficient. My first couple of utility bills were about $400 because it was cold out. Then I took the heating and cooling system out and put a high efficient heat pump system in. I did a full solar package too. We had triple-digit heat numbers last month and my bills were only $61. I also put in an addition on the home. I put a 40 x 48 carport attached garage and I bought a 10-foot porch over the back of the house.
We appreciate your kind words, Phillip! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about how much you enjoyed working with Linda during your home buying process. We're also glad to hear that you were able to customize the home to meet your needs and to be even more energy efficient, that's great! Congratulations!

We started with Clayton Homes in Lexington around 2014, but before that, we've been going down to Sanford and we saw Vanderbilt Homes, Clayton Homes, and Country Fair Homes. We looked at all of those, then we came back to Clayton Homes and we finally saw what we liked. Their price was better as well. The first one we went to was down in Sanford, where we first saw Clayton Homes, but we realized there was Clayton Homes right here in Lexington, so we went to the Lexington location instead. Everybody in the office was great to us, not only our personal sales rep. When we walked in and had questions to ask and if our rep wasn’t there, everybody would be willing to answer any questions we had.
We started looking and decided that we do some changes with the house, and they were willing to work with us. They went to the manufacturer with answers they didn’t know and the head guy from the manufacturer came up to Clayton Homes here in Lexington and sat down with me to let me know what I could or couldn’t do. They did everything I wanted and did a bunch of changes for me. We absolutely love the house. Not only that, they are really good too. If we have a problem, I've called them and within some time the next day or within two days, they have somebody out there. The problems had been minor and we haven't had anything major at all.
We customized the family room that was a living room and it had a dining room at the end of it. It also had a doorway to go into the hallway and to the kitchen. They let me take the little half wall out and get rid of the dining room. It's all family room now as you walk in. They also let me do a half wall, but I wanted to make it into a foyer since the house didn’t have one. It was just a walk-in to a living room area. Then, they let me take up part of the columns that were in the archway because I didn’t want the column.
Some of the big changes were where the family room was. At the end of the kitchen, I made that a dining area with a glass slider door instead of windows because I don’t need a living room and a family room. We needed a bigger family room because of all the kids in the family we have when we have them over. So, right now, the way with my archway here between the family room and the kitchen and when all the families are here in the family room, I can see and talk to all of them while I'm doing stuff in the kitchen. It's very family-oriented and everything is so easy to get to. I also rearranged the kitchen a bit. I wanted two ovens, so I've got a slide-in range and, on the end of the wall, I have an oven and a microwave over the top of it into a cabinet. They let me put a pantry in my kitchen as well.
We also put another pantry at the end for the dining room. One whole wall is nothing but a huge pantry for dishes. I put dishes and party supplies in it. They also let me rearrange the master bathroom. I changed it all around. I took the tub out and put a larger shower stall in there. I also made a private party area. And being a woman, I wanted a sink and a vanity, so on one side of the wall, we had two double sinks. I did a sink and a vanity for me and, on the other wall, we did a 30-inch sink for my husband and a linen closet. The house was so customized. Everybody who walks into it really likes it. We've had people stop by after we moved in and they asked if they could come in and look at it. Also, in this house, you can't hear it when it rains outside and the house is very well insulated. In the winter time, it is very warm and during this hot summer, it's great. I only have the air conditioning set on 75 and it's cool in here.
Clayton Homes worked with us in every aspect. We were coming down every couple of months talking to Clayton Homes and seeing what they could do. I had another place that was gonna do some stuff for me, but Clayton Homes was right here and everybody was really nice. There isn’t a person in that office that wasn’t nice to us and still is. I've been recommending them to several people. There's one couple that really wants this house, but they can't afford it. We got a heck of a price compared to when we were looking down in Sanford. They worked with us and really gave us a great price. The house had one price on it and I customized it which brought it up a bit more, but it was worth it. We still feel we came out of hand every bit of the stuff they did to it and we really got a great deal.
Toni, we LOVED reading your review! Thank you so much for the kind words and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're thrilled that you loved working with our Lexington Home Center and that you were able to customize your home to meet your exact needs. Congratulations on your new home and thanks again!

I needed a mobile home to house worker employees of mine and Clayton Homes had exactly what I was looking for. The people at Clayton were also friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. I bought a 14 x 76 home that was of the lower price range and I had a good experience. I'd be a repeat customer.
We love to hear that, Lee! Thank you so much for the great feedback. We'd be honored to have you as a repeat customer if the need arises!

My home has been needing attention and service since December. Over the time the service that has been sent to my home was very poor and hardly nothing accomplished. Then after they fired the service guy, the GM admitted to forgetting about me for 4 months straight after I called. I requested for somebody to come look at the damage to the home and the build quality but they instead send a new service guy to order things it needs. After about 3 weeks still nothing has changed, I feel they are trying to wait it out until my warranty ends in December.
I'm am making a video to release soon to social media of every aspect and point of the damage and poor service to this home. I need help from the corporation please. The Hammond, Louisiana office is where I bought the home and they seem like I'm just some guy that bought a home they don't care about. The Better Business Bureau will be notified soon if nothing gets done soon. And a attorney general I'm ready to defend me and my family's hard earned money. We haven't even decorated this house. We are very unhappy.
Eric, we are very sorry to hear about the experience you've had with our Hammond location so far. A member of our Customer Advocacy Team will reach out to you directly for more information.

I had great interactions with the reps of Clayton Homes and Darryl, the manager there, was really great. We lived in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and I own some property in Georgia that my daddy left me, so we decided to put the mobile home back on it and come back here. Being out there, we went to the store in Sevierville but we weren't happy with them at all. So we went to Sweetwater next. We had talked to Darryl on the phone before we went there and he made an effort to be there and help us on Saturday when we went down. Our salesman, Brent, was very knowledgeable and helpful but Darryl pretty well did everything.
The home buying process was great and could not have gone easier. It also went very quick. Darryl knew our situation. We had sold our place up there and we didn't have anywhere to live when we came back here so we were in a hotel for eight days. Darryl did everything in his power to make everything happen. We closed on Tuesday and they delivered our house on Wednesday of that next week.
The house I have now, however, is not the house I wanted. My husband and I both draw Social Security Disability but he is able to work and make a bit of money. And because we had filed taxes for the 26th paying year, we didn't qualify for something. I don't know if it’s some type of government rule, but we had to go with a different home because we had $20,000 we paid them and we would have to have more if we got the other home because it was more expensive.
It also took me longer to get my power turned on than it did to get our home. The only way I got it turned on was because a gas and a power company came out and made sure our pole was good. The power company's rep kindly put in a good word and said that we gotta have power then. So power and light were here on Monday morning. But quality-wise, the home seems to be great. The process went very smoothly as well and everybody I've talked to, from people at Vanderbilt down to Clayton Homes, was great too. I would highly recommend Clayton Homes.
Tina, we sincerely appreciate your generous feedback! We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed working with Darryl at our Sweetwater location and that everything went smoothly with your home buying process. Thank you for being patient with the power issues, and for taking the time to share your experience with us!

I bought a 16x18 mobile home with three bedrooms and three baths from Clayton Homes. It's very nice. I had a good saleslady. Her name was Kim and she was very knowledgeable. They set the home up at a mobile home park before I signed the papers. I paid my down payment before I went on my Christmas vacation and I wasn't able to move in until January 9th. But it was a good experience and everything went well.
That's so great to hear, Ricky! Thank you for taking the time to let us know that your home buying experience went well and that you enjoyed working with Kim. Congratulations on your new home!

Through the homes I looked at, I really noticed the quality of Clayton homes. Plus the sales guy, Chris, was great. He helped us all the way through and was very informative with the progress. I probably drove him a little crazy but he stayed right on top of everything. It was a great experience and I would recommend Clayton Homes. We started around May and we moved in in December. Considering all that had to be done, it was done in a timely manner. We customized our outside color, colorized the brace and added the ceiling fan in the master room. So far, the central heat and air works really great too. It’s efficient. Our power bill runs a lot cheaper now than our previous home.
We're so glad to hear everything went well for you, Cory! Thank you for letting us know! We'll definitely pass along your praises of Chris to his team! We take pride in the energy efficiency of our homes and are glad that you get to enjoy that! Congratulations on your new home!

I was pregnant and I needed a new home. The house that we were living in was the one we were raised in. But when we were remodeling, we found mold so we decided to sell the house and then buy a trailer. When I went by Clayton Homes, I saw their trailer out there and I really liked it so I stopped. I asked about the Clayton Homes people and my brother’s best friend was the one who helped us build them. I went looking in October and finally decided in November. I signed papers in December and then I was able to move in within the first two weeks of February.
I had a perfect experience with Clayton Homes but not with the people who worked on my house. The technicians would tell me one thing and then they would tell me a different thing. They also never showed up whenever they told me they were coming out to fix whatever problems that had to be fixed before I moved in. When I told them I wanted the trailer at first, they told me that I could get the laminate floor throughout the whole house. But when they first delivered my house, it had the carpet in both bedrooms even though I told them I want a laminate floor in. So they had to come out and fix that.
Both of my bathtubs also broke and even after the guy came over and put my bathtubs in, they still didn't look the way they were supposed to. But I told them that we would fix it ourselves. We didn't want them back over here. That was how crappy it was. But the house is finished and complete now, and I'm very satisfied with it. My light bill has also tremendously changed from what I used to have. I would recommend somebody to go out there and buy another house, but not through the people I used.
Thank you for your detailed feedback, Ashley! It's very important for us to know that you didn't enjoy working with the service techs at your Home Center. We apologize for that and will be getting this information to the appropriate parties. However, we're glad to hear that you're now satisfied with the home. Congratulations on your new home and growing family!

The application process with Clayton Homes was a nightmare because the bank did something wrong and they had to go rolling over for another month, which meant we had to do another application. But our consultant was great and she's a friend of ours now. Our experience was pretty easy and we got the Sweet Caroline. I fell in love with the home. They brought it out and demolished the one we had and put this one up, and they did it pretty quickly, considering the weather.
It's a big house. It's a three bedroom and two bath home, and we also have a den and a living room. Dennis came in and did the repairs on the house after it was put up, and he was awesome. He had to put together the pieces on the closet that came off and he had to repaint the ceiling in the kitchen. He did a great job. Whenever we’ve asked Clayton to do anything, they’ve been right on it.
Thank you so much for the feedback, Maria! The information about the application process is very beneficial to us so that we can improve our processes. We're very happy to hear that your consultant was great and that you're enjoying the home.

Everybody at Clayton Homes was pretty nice and courteous. They did what was needed to be done. The application process was said and done within 30 days. The consultant did his thing good and he discussed how it would be if anything happens to the house while it's settled. He said they would come back and take care of it, and so far, they have. Every time we go by and needed something to be done, they would drive out here.
We got the 1,500 square feet home and it has three bedrooms, two baths, a big living room and kitchen and dining. It's 26x50 long, and we love it. We had to wait for the home to get here in December, and they finally set it up in January. We waited and waited on different inspections that had to be done. When they got them all done on January 17, we moved in. Everything went just fine.
Douglas, we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us! We're so glad to hear that everything went well and moved quickly. Congratulations on your new home!

We were selling a property that we had in one location and we wanted to move to a property that had 30 acres but didn’t have a home on it. So we were shopping for a home and the Clayton rep helped us in every way he could. It took us a little longer to get our home than most people because we were also moving quite a few years of stuff and we had to sell the house before we could really purchase the one that we really wanted to buy. It was August when we decided that we wanted to buy the home and it was February before we got the home put together where we could move into it. We had a few issues with the doors and a few little things here and there, but Clayton had the repairman come out and repair it.
The home that we were in was over 25 years old and compared to that, the Clayton home is efficient. Our old home had single pane windows in it and there were a lot of energy things that needed to be done to it. So, the electric bill was rather high there. Here in our Clayton home, on the other hand, our electric bill even during the month of August was about $63 and it was almost $200 less than what we were paying prior to moving into this home. So, we've had an energy saving, electrical-wise, by a lot. However, I felt we could have gotten a little nicer home than what we did because we chose a home that we wanted but couldn’t afford. So, we went back and got something that we could afford. Hopefully, in 5 to 10 years, we could get the home that we wanted. Still, I had a good experience with Clayton Homes.
Vincent, we sincerely appreciate your generous feedback! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your home buying experience. We take pride in the energy efficiency of our homes, and we are thrilled to hear that you're getting to enjoy that quality! Congratulations on your new home!

I was looking for a home and I remembered Clayton Homes, and there was another, Halifax Home but it didn't have a Carolina home, so I was back and forth, looking in everything like that. So, I just went with Clayton Homes and then it just so happened that my mom was telling me about Clayton Homes too. Their rep helped me pretty well. She was able to answer the questions and she was pretty nice too. However, there were a few damages in the house, and they needed to be fixed at the time. They came out and fixed some things but I started noticing a little bit more things around the house that weren't properly installed. Then it took them a while to get to me. I had to pause and keep calling. I was being a normal customer, just being patient. But then, still no process, so I had to call again and wait.
I finally got someone out here to fix the problem, but it was the same problem and was getting a little worse. Then, I got in contact with the one who helped me with the house and she responded. But sometimes she doesn't respond. I’ve been getting in contact with them to fix the problem and this is like a prolonging thing and waiting for a long period of time to fix anything. But it's a very nice home, there are just some things needed to be done, and they just haven't been done.

We went to Clayton Homes and we looked at all the houses. They have good prices and offer good deals for their nice houses. We spoke with Rob and he was very friendly. We decided that we liked him and Clayton and so we went with their company. The home we got had a deal on it and we had to get it as it was. From the beginning to the end, the whole process took two months. Also, we don't have a gas bill, which is nice. However, we got a letter in the mail that there's a recall on it, which is a little concerning. Nevertheless, Clayton Homes' staff has been very friendly and they're always there to answer questions even after you've already bought the house. We're very satisfied with our home.

Working with Clayton Homes has been great for us. We had been trying for several years to get a home in the Farmerville area, where this lake is. Once we put in for this house, everything started rolling. But when we started out, I had my other place up for sale and I had to wait for that before I could settle on this. It was also Clayton Homes selling my other place. We had to wait to get electricity and water out here at our location now and they worked right with me on that as well. The process took about five months and it went real smoothly. Everybody worked with me and seemed to know what to do and what to say. Everything was approved right away and it went really good. So far, I'm satisfied with Clayton Homes. We've moved in and it's a big house. It's double-wide and probably close to 2,000 feet.
Thank you so much for that wonderful feedback, Jerry! We appreciate you taking the time to tell us how well your experience went. Congratulations on your new home!
