The price and quality of the homes at Clayton were good and competitive. I'm extremely satisfied and happy with the home-buying process that I had with them. The consultant was great. He followed up with me, made sure everything was good and in the way that it’s supposed to be. Any time I call them, they call me right back. They delivered the product on time and on budget. The people at Clayton Homes are good and I would highly recommend them. I’m very happy with the quality of my home.
We're extremely satisfied that YOU'RE extremely satisfied, Steven! Thank you for sharing your home buying experience with us. We're glad to hear that everything went smoothly for you and that you enjoyed working with your consultant. We're thrilled to receive the ultimate compliment from you: your recommendation. Thank you for the stamp of approval and congratulations on your new home!

We were purchasing a property and our real estate agent mentioned Clayton Homes. We liked the people at that place and they were easy to work with. However, the workmanship on the finer details within the home could be improved. Still, the rep from Clayton Homes was very forthcoming and helpful. Any issues we had, he was right on top of everything for us. The process was simple as well.
Thank you so much for your feedback, Michael! We are glad to hear that your home buying process went well and that your Home Center was easy to work with. We're going to pass along your feedback about the workmanship to our Home Building Group as well. We're glad to hear your issues were addressed promptly! Congratulations on your new home!

I had gone to several manufactured home builders and Clayton Homes did the closest to a brick home as far as structure. Linda, the sales associate, is the best. She had good knowledge of construction as well as mobile home manufacturing. I customized the home, and I told them what my needs and wants were and they said it wasn’t a problem. I and one of the sales associates designed it ourselves. I live right on the lake and we’ve had several severe storms. The home is just as sound as the brick and concrete Hardie board home that I had owned for many years in Forney.
That is SO great to hear, Mona! We loved reading that you are so happy with the quality of your home and how it stands up to storms. We're also thrilled to hear that you enjoyed working with Linda to buy your home. It's so exciting to be able to customize your home to meet your needs and wants, isn't it? We hope you're still enjoying that lake view for many years to come! Congratulations on your new home.

Our experience with Clayton homes in Waco has been one of the best experiences we have ever gone through. We love our home and all the staff at Clayton. However, we have white distressed cabinets throughout our home and they're terrible. I thought they were painted but they're not. They are a thin paper like wallpaper. This is a horrible idea. Every where we use water and open a cabinet the paper is peeling off and it looks awful. I called Clayton to see what could be done but after several calls and sending pictures of the damage and several weeks time I was told their hands were tied.
They no longer make this finish at Clayton in Waco. That’s fine, I don’t want this finish again but I sure would like for them to be painted. I’m very disappointed about this. We take care of our home and want to be proud of it but right now I am devastated with the way this looks. I don’t know what to do or how to fix this. I can't recommend this to anyone. We do love our home but paid a lot of money for a really bad design.
Thank you so much for your feedback, Mary. We're sorry to hear that your cabinets are not holding up as well as expected. We're going to touch base with your Home Center and your Home Building Facility to see if there are any other options. Someone will be in touch with you soon!

I lived in a Clayton home for a while before I got a new one. My wife and I like that particular mobile home. The home buying process was quick and easy. The people up there at the Clayton Homes of Johnson City were nice and helped me a lot. Josh, their home consultant, was great. He explained all the aspects of my home purchase very thoroughly. I like the quality of my home well. It seems like a good home.
Roy, thank you for taking the time to leave us an awesome review. We are glad to hear that your home buying process with Josh went well. Congratulations on your new home and welcome to the Clayton family!

The home buying process was quick and simple with Clayton Homes and they worked with me better on the price. The entire process took three months and it met my expectations. At first, my interaction with their woman home consultant wasn’t that great, but then it got better. It was her attitude, but I stayed with her. She must’ve been having a bad day the first day when we did it all, and I get that. And she got better. In terms of the home quality, there are some things that could be put together with better materials now that we’re in it. But overall, we're satisfied with our home.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Shauntel! We are so glad that the home buying process was smooth! We strive for excellence in our product and service! Congrats on your new home!

I liked Virginia at Clayton. She was a really sweet person. She was very personable and she knew what she was talking about. She was forthright with me, and then when I looked at the home, we went over everything together about how I would want certain things done. Virginia also added some things that I hadn’t thought about, so overall, I couldn’t ask for anything better. If I had to buy another one, I’d go back to Virginia.
As far as the quality of the home, there’s no wasted space, and that’s impressive. The color is beautiful. The paint, however, is not what should be in the house because if you touch it, a bit of dirt spots it immediately and you can't wipe it off. So, if I had to go over again, I’d get the same color but I would get a paint that you could at least get fingerprints off. Nevertheless, the overall feel of the place at Clayton Homes was 'family.' Everyone was extremely courteous, and they made me feel part of the family when I was there. I had checked with other places, and Clayton far exceeded my expectations. I was very happy with Clayton Homes.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Robin! Exceeding expectations is exactly what we strive for! Welcome to the Clayton family and congrats on your new home!

We looked at buying places when we were younger but my wife’s grandpa told her that we would be getting his home when he passes away. However, we were in a tight spot. We were renting a place and my ex-landlord, who was supposed to be a friend, decided he was gonna take four and a half months’ worth of rent, buy himself a car and not pay the mortgage. While the whole process was going on, me, my wife and our two-year-old at the time, lived in a camper for a year and a half, in my sister's yard.
My momma bought her house from Clayton Homes 13 years ago. We talked to a few other places but Clayton was the only home building place that we could afford. We were well-satisfied with the buying process. You go to the bank and get pre-approved. Then, you gotta talk to Kim at Clayton Homes of Albemarle. She walked us through the whole process. We told her what we were looking for, what our budget was and that we were looking for a three-bedroom, double-wide because we were simple, old country folks, even though we were still in our 20s. As long as I got a roof over my young one’s head and a bed for her to sleep in, my wife and I didn't care what it was. We told Kim that we just needed a home and nothing fancy. Kim gave us our options. She said that whatever we wanna do, she could make it happen and they did. Clayton was a saving grace.

The people at Clayton are great to talk with and deal with, and when you ask them for some advice, they own it. I'll recommend Clayton Homes.

I was very satisfied with the home buying process at Clayton. The salespeople were very helpful, very knowledgeable and very friendly. They answered all of my questions when I was buying the house and the financing was worked out. After it was set up, I had a couple of problems. But they took care of all those problems, and everything’s good. We got to pick out everything for the house. We had French doors added, got to pick out the carpet, the wall colors, tile and countertops. They did everything right.

We worked with Chris and Ella, and they were very helpful and personable, and pleasant to work with. They were always very responsive.Clayton Homes had the unit that I wanted. It's a trailer so I have to keep my expectations at a certain level, and they have met those expectations. We bought the trailer right off the lot. It was already there. There was a modification that we wanted and they took care of that for us, so that was nice. They're actually in the process of fixing an issue this week. There was a leak in the dishwasher at installation. It was just a small leak so it wasn't detected until I had done some damage to their floor. The particle board in the flooring got damaged and they're coming this week to repair that.

I was looking for a house and one of my friends recommended Clayton. I went to Bossier, looked around and the salesman was great. He kept asking me if I needed anything and if everything was okay. He was so nice. I got a different sink because it was white and I wanted black because I have a boy, so that worked out. The home buying process went well. They even call me from time-to time to make sure that everything’s still working out for me. I had a great experience and I love the quality of our home. I would recommend them for anyone that’s looking for a home.

I'm very satisfied with the home buying process with Clayton Homes. The application process was easy and everything went smoothly. It only took two weeks for me to get approved. They were interested in helping me get what I needed and what I wanted. They got me in a home that I could afford and the one that I really liked. I was renting a house and I was paying way too much for it. My electric bill was $500. But the highest electric bill in my home now is less than $115 so I'm saving money and I'm extremely happy.
Also, they're the nicest people when I still call them to ask something. I had a concern about my air conditioner. I called Clayton Homes and the rep said that they will get somebody out here. But I told her that I've already called the number that was in my unit. Then she said, "Well I would have done that for you." They've been great.

Clayton is the place to go because they stand behind what they promise. Whatever they said, they delivered. We got a brand-new home from them and the process was excellent. It wasn't aggravating and it was easier than what we thought it would be. The application process went smoothly, although it was a little long. Even so, the home consultant was wonderful and my husband and I really liked him. He was very forthright with home phone numbers and everything, and we had good interactions with him. If I had any questions or concerns, all I had to do was either call the camp down at Clayton in Morganton or send a message to his private cell number.
Great feedback, Sandy! We genuinely appreciate it and we’re glad to hear that you’re happy with your experience at Clayton Homes!

We bought a 2019 Tru Homes double wide and the sales person was wonderful. His name is Brian and I recommend him to anyone. He was very friendly and worked hard to get us into our home. Then they delivered it and set it up and we moved in it December 2018. Then they told me to make a list of everything that needed to be fixed so I did. I had 3 pages of things that needed fixed and one thing was the screen door wasn't straight. It had a big gap at the top and a small gap at the bottom. So the guy came and said he got it close and I didn't look till he was gone and I seen how he fixed it. He loosened half the screws on it and just left it like that and I told him that the screws holding the doors up most of them are stripped out and he told me there wasn't anything he could do about it.
So if you do get any kind of mobile home check the screws holding the doors up before they leave and if they don't do anything I would get a attorney because you want your doors to stay up because sooner or later it will affect your home and if I would have known this I would have just built a new home instead of a trailer... And they just called me and their fix on the stripped screws on the door is to get bigger screws to put in instead of replacing the frame and door and get weather stripping for the back door to stop the moisture from coming in so just cover the problem and not fix anything... SO my suggestion is to build a house and don't go with a trailer house...
April, we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. This type of information is important for us to better our processes. We are going to follow up with both your Home Center and Home Building Facility regarding your door and then someone will be in touch with you!

Buying from Clayton Homes was great. It is our first time ever buying a home and they just made it so easy with their explanation on how things work and what we needed to do. It was very relieving. The application process was very simple and we were approved really quickly. We worked with several different people, but they all worked together as a team. One person did one thing, another showed us the house, and then we were moved to another person when we got to the process of buying our house. That person came out and looked at our land and the first trailer that we had.
After we had our house and moved in, we were passed over to a lady who handled any issues that we had after the settling of the house. We had to have the guys come back out and re-leveled the house because it had rained a whole lot and our house settled. They also redid some doors that all of sudden weren’t closing and had some minor fixes done with the floor because of the setting.
The people from Clayton are very helpful and knowledgeable about what they're doing. Unlike all the other mobile home places that we went to, Clayton was more about getting us into what we wanted. We went to other places and the first thing they did was ask for a credit check. Overall, we're very satisfied with Clayton because we can still call them and they'll come out. I would tell others that Clayton would help them out whatever their situation is. They are willing to work with anyone and find a solution to whatever problem they got.
Great feedback, Tanya! We genuinely appreciate it and we’re glad to hear that you’re happy with your service and home!

The home buying process at Clayton was great. It was our first time, so we weren't really sure about what we were doing, and they helped tremendously through everything. Our sales rep in particular, understood that it was all new to us. Any time that we had a question, we'd text or call, and she would always get our answers to us. The home we purchased was kind of a model and it already had all of the upgrades. The quality of the home, as of now, however, is probably less than that of a standard big villa house. We've been living in it for about seven months now and we've already seen some issues. Clayton has been helpful with getting them fixed to their standard of warranty, but probably not to my standard. It was not what we had hoped they have done or would do. Still, we had found in Clayton the company that best worked for us and suited our lifestyle and what we liked.

The people at Clayton were very nice to deal with. They weren't in a hurry. The manager, Allison, took time. We drank some coffee with my daughter-in-law and my son. When we left, Alison came out of the building, down the steps and got to the car and hugged every one of us. And I love the mobile home. I fell in love with the double walling. My son just installed one of the heater on, and I haven't turned down real low. It feels wide open and so insulated. The home is really beautiful and of nice quality.
The people from Clayton said they were not gonna give me the mobile home that was on the lot, but build me a brand new one. I do not like carpet in my house so what we had to do was spread out the linoleum around it. They did it and it was pretty. My daughter just came in and said, "Mom, this was like your home that you just moved from." When you walk in there's a living room, a sunroom and a dining room and every combination. It’s just open and I also love that.

We were first time home buyers and this was the worst experience I have ever encountered!! To start off with after putting a down payment on a trailer to “hold it for us” they sold it out from underneath us! Said they ordered another one and would give us an allowance to purchase the furniture that was like the other we had picked out but they seem to have lost the paper work as to what was in it!! After several calls they final cut me a check I had to go pick up and it wasn’t even close to what was in the other one!! Then they had us sign paper work on the trailer before they perked our land and I have called several times to ask about the perk And was told it will be fine. Not knowing that we are on three natural springs and living in a swamp and the smell is unreal!!!
When they delivered the trailer they hit a tree and messed some things on the out side up as well as the inside so they send their service man who just started and don’t know how to fix things too well due to lack of training. He has been to my place at least 3 times and things are still not right and still tearing up!!! I have contacted them several times requesting someone from the manufacturer come out and they ignore me!!! I have all the email trails!!! I have also contacted the Customer Advocacy Team with no response!!! The list goes on and on!!! I have only lived in my home since July and shouldn't be going thru all this!!! Please think twice before purchasing from Clayton Homes in Tazewell Va!!!

I went to Mount Airy Clayton Homes to get myself a home. They had one sitting on the lot for quite a while but they kept putting me off like they were gonna sell it, but they never did. So, I called a rep at Winston and he said to go there and that he would sell me the same home for the same price. Ron and Scott, their home consultants, went beyond the call of duty trying to keep me happy. Thus far, I love my home and the openness of the kitchen into the living room. I also like that my home has two bathrooms, one on one end, and one on the other end.
I also love the closets that have enough space. The closet in the master bedroom that's in behind the shower is a godsend. Since I have it back there, I can get dressed in the bathroom. Also, I've had so many compliments on my porch from my brothers who looked at the way it was built. They said that the man who built my porch knew what he was doing. It is nice and it wasn't just thrown together. Overall, we're getting what we want from Clayton.

Clayton Homes has better quality with a lower price than what a lot of the other places had. The buying process was really good. We had a couple little glitches here and there that was a little frustrating, but overall, it was a good experience. We started in April and we were in by mid-June, but there were some problems with some of the doorways, and the factory had to come out and make some repairs, and that didn’t get done until almost August.
Everything's fixed except for the floor. I'm still waiting for them to send somebody out to fix it. It squeaks very loudly and wakes up my baby. They usually call me back on the day when I reach out to them if I have concerns, but it just takes a long time to actually get somebody out here to do anything. We called about a week before Christmas about the floors, and this is February, and they still haven't had anybody out here to fix it.
I really like our home and I really liked most of the people I worked with. The only comment that I would have is that the folks at the Northport branch should be a little bit faster to resolve issues. I could see having to wait two weeks to get some jobs lined up going in and out ‘cause I understand it's a pretty sparse place that people have homes, but two months is a little bit too long to have to make somebody have to wait. Other than that, everything's been great.

I was looking for a mobile home and went with Clayton Homes. John, the consultant, was very helpful. He was an outgoing, down home country boy. I picked a home that has a floor plan that would hold my dining room. It has a gigantic garden, too, in the back. I really like the layout of my home. But I would like something at the front entrance that would not be carpet. I’m planning the first chance I get to talk to John about getting the vinyl in the dining and kitchen rooms. If I can get a piece of that from the floor where my couch is sitting to the wall, it would make my carpet look a lot better. I've got rugs down there that I'm walking on because I don't have the yard work done yet, so it's not a clean walk in the house. Other than that, I had a good experience with Clayton Homes.
Thank you so much for the positive feedback, Peggy! We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed working with John and that you're so happy with the layout of your home. We were looking for a home close by the school where my daughter is going and contacted a couple of places and the manager at Arrowhead recommended Clayton Homes. I live in Texas, and we worked with the home consultant over the phone. He took care of the insurance and warranty stuff, and things that we needed. He did everything on the phone. We filled out all the paperwork on the phone. They did a very nice job. I never even saw the home until we actually moved in. So, they did everything when we got there.
They had a couple of technicians that came out for little things like the small adjustments on the door. But everything else was good. The trailer was good, and the only thing that was amiss was the appliance warranty that they took care of. The dishwasher in this place is not working. They changed every part of that machine and it’s still not working. Other than that, I’m very happy with them. They dealt with everything else right away.
We're so happy to hear from you, Tom! Thank you for sharing your home buying experience with us. We're so glad to know that everything went smoothly for you and that you were able to get a home in the right area for your daughter's school. Family is so important to us as well. Congratulations!

Our friend who works with my brother had recently gotten a Clayton home. She talked to my brother about her experience and said that we should definitely go to Clayton. And being that Green Acres, the only other home provider, is way overpriced for crappier stuff, we went with Clayton. The buying process was easy and Brent, the rep, did good. He even showed us the homes and helped us find what was gonna work best for us and our budget.
Getting the home built, however, was a bit more difficult and it took a little longer than I expected. It took some months after I got everything approved. There were very few people working on it, whereas the Clayton in Jackson has whole teams of people, so it gets done a little faster. Our foundations were done by one person in his 70s, and I felt bad for the guy. Some of the little strips that hold the pieces of the wall together had bows in it because I guess they were in a hurry. So, I'd just take a nail and nail it back in. Nevertheless, as far as the pricing goes and the quality of the building materials themselves, Clayton is good. In fact, the quality of the home that we have is better than that of Green Acres. The Clayton people were good people too and I liked them. I would definitely still recommend them to a friend.
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback, Rachel. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed working with Brent and that your home buying experience with him was good. We're sorry to hear about the timeline delays and the build taking longer than expected. We will definitely pass along this feedback so that we can use it to improve our processes. We're so thankful to hear that you would still recommend us, thank you again! Congratulations on your new home.

Everything was great with Clayton Homes in the beginning. It was perfect. When we went to the site, they showed us a home that was a perfect fit for us. We didn't even go anywhere else. We were happy. They bent over backwards to see that we got this home and it didn't really take a whole lot of time to actually get to closing. Everybody was also friendly. When we made a phone call to them, they were very nice. But with my experience going forward, I'm not really happy. When they sold the house, they were like, "Okay. This is your problem now.”
When we first had the home being moved onto the property, their contractor ran the first part of the section of our home, tried to put everything together, and kind of fixed the floor. And then, we had trouble with getting other things actually fixed throughout the home that needed attention. When I tried to get ahold of Clayton Homes, they helped us along the way, but they wouldn't stay in touch with us. Every time I'd call in, I'd give them an update on what needed to be fixed. The contractor would then come out and fix one thing, and then they would leave. Then, I was like, "Okay, what about the rest of the stuff?" Nobody ever wanted to communicate with me and that's my main gripe. I have to be the one to constantly call Clayton Homes and say what is going on instead of them calling me if everything's on track. As a matter of fact, our anniversary date’s in July and we still have issues that we have not gotten fixed.
So, we wound up having to call the company that made the home. We made a complaint to the home office as well about what was going on because we weren't getting anywhere. That finally helped us out and got fires lit under people's tails to get stuff done. The company that made the home sent another contractor and did a lot of work that needed to get done. But, the things they fixed are broken again. Now, we still have no communication with the company. I also haven't heard from them on what they're gonna do about the other items that could not be fixed by the contractor they sent. No one wants to pick up the phone, so I'm back to square one. We're to the point where I'm ready to start talking to a lawyer. I would not recommend Clayton Homes.

We went to visit Clayton Homes in Chillicothe and dealt with the salesman by the name of Denver. He was very nice and polite. He worked with us but we waited and at the end of 4 months, we could still not find out how much it was gonna cost us to buy the home. So one day, we were in Huntington, West Virginia and my wife was wanting a certain wood. It looked like Clayton Chillicothe did not have that wood. I told her to check the Clayton Homes down in Huntington and maybe they've got it.
There was a man named Rick in Clayton Homes Huntington and we told him that we had been dealing with the one up in Chillicothe for 4 months but we could not get a price of the home. He told us to give him 24 hours and he'll have something going on for us. My wife had all of the paperwork so we went over all the paperwork with him. He asked us to come back the next day and that he'll have the price. We went back the next day, and sure enough, he had everything we wanted. And so, we asked him if we can we buy a home off of him instead of the one at Chillicothe and he said as long as we've not paid anything down, then he can take our order. So we went with him and we've been very satisfied with him.
Roger, thank you so much for the detailed feedback. We're sorry to hear that things didn't go well with our Chillicothe location. However, we do appreciate you letting us know that once you started working with our Huntington location everything was back on track. We're going to pass along your feedback to the appropriate parties. This type of feedback is important for us to better our processes. We appreciate you taking the time to share, and congratulate you on your new home!

It is so bad we have been trying since March 2018 to get things fixed and still until this day can't get the home right and like the one we chose. The ones they did send to do some work made everything worse.
Now we are having a major issue with water in all of our light fixtures throughout the mobile home but can't get an answer to why not get it fixed. We also now have mold in one of our closets and still don't have things done or fixed. Always getting the runaround. I wish we would have never went to Freedom Homes. I was trying to get a place put in here in Gold Beach and I wasn’t having too good a luck with anybody. Then, I went to Clayton Homes in White City and I talked to the salesman. His name was Ken and he was really nice and upfront. He explained every one of the homes that he had there and he gave me a paper that said different finances that I could go through in buying a home. He said we could look at other homes. I had been looking, going on almost two years to put a house here but we went with Clayton. Ken helped me arrange to get the house and a couple of months later, my house was brought out here. Their people put it all together and did the foundation work.
I’ve had three other homes and the last home that we put in, I did the foundation work and helped do it. But with this, they put it together really good. All the walls are good, the floors don’t creak and all the windows open up. It has been great. The process took six months but it would have been less if the title companies do disbursements here in Curry County. They only have one title company and if they don’t wanna do anything, they don’t. Nevertheless, my experience with Clayton Homes had been very good. In fact, I have told numerous people about it and people are thinking about putting more of their homes over here.
We're so glad to hear everything worked out for you to get a home through our White City location, Thomas! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your home buying experience. We're going to pass along to Ken & his team that you enjoyed working with him! Congratulations on your new home, we're glad your long search is over and we're sure you are too!

After my horrible experience with Mobile Home Liquidators, I went to Clayton Homes and they did everything better. I was messed around with Mobile Home Liquidators for about six months, but I elevated my paperwork that I started to Mark in Crossville. Since I was pretty much homeless, I had to choose one off of the lot so I could get it immediately. Mark had one and then, once I took my paperwork out to him, I had a double-wide. I like everything about the quality of the build, except for the bathroom. They are not good quality and of poor material. The bathtub in my daughter’s room already has cracks in it. Given my experience, Clayton needs to improve the showers and the bathtubs because I still feel like I'm about to fall through the shower when I get in it. It doesn’t feel like it is very sturdy. That aside, I love Clayton. They were outstanding to work with and their home consultant did amazing.

I’ve always heard that Clayton Homes is the best and I was familiar with them since I have a brother-in-law that bought a home from them. The home buying process was excellent. The home consultant gave me all the pointers, answered all the questions and he was very easy to deal with. If I have a question, he gets back to me while I was on the phone and it was pretty quick. But if he had to check with somebody else, it may take an hour. My house got two to six walls. I’m heating it during the winter, and I’m well pleased with all that. But I’m not too happy with the quality of the way they put it together.
I put 30 years in manufacturing, and the quality shows that the house was manufactured as quickly as they can. What we looked at in picture had a ceiling fan in the living room. I asked if they could put them in the three bedrooms, and they said that they couldn’t. But when we got it, the fan was in the master bedroom. And they didn’t have the curtains in the other two bedrooms so they’ve brought me curtains but I haven’t had a chance to get all that put up. Other than that, everything's fine and if I was gonna do it again, I would go right back to the same people I dealt with.

In November of 2018, we purchased a home from Clayton Homes in Garden City, ID. The selling of the home was done well, and most all the questions were answered. After we put the money down, the nightmare began. We were promised that the manager would come and look at the home site to explain anything that needed to be done. The manager never came. Then, we were told one of her other managers would come. This never happened as well. And the nightmare continued.
We hired a very experience concrete company that has been doing foundations for 40 + years. Due to his vast knowledge, he finished the foundation before winter set in, and it was completed as to the State's standards. We continued to try and get Clayton to come see the progress as the home was being built, but we received nothing but empty promises. The building inspector came out and gave the foundation a resounding 2-thumbs up, and said it was one of the best jobs he ever sees. So, we were assured "by the state" that everything was in order. Now comes Clayton's part.
Finally, after 3 months of waiting, we finally get a call "on the day they were coming" that one of the lesser managers and the set-up installer were going to arrive in an hour. The concrete person, and myself, were not even in town. Instead, my 83 y.o. mother had to try and explain what was done so far. Clayton gave her a new list of things that needed done, most of which are not REQUIRED by the Idaho code (as I read it myself).
If these things were so important to be done BEFORE they delivered and set-up the home, then Clayton should have come out and told us all this BEFORE we had everything done and ready. However, they dropped the ball, and are making it look like it's OUR fault!! Unbelievable!!!! So now, we're very frustrated!! I'm to the point where I would rather just get my deposit back, and go find another company that can be more professional and will do what they say. I will NEVER recommend such an irresponsible company. If a person wants a Fleetwood home, GO TO ANOTHER DEALER!!!

Clayton Homes had the best selection of mobile homes. They also had very good consultants and I was impressed with their general knowledge and their ability to work with us. We were not able to get the financing that was enough to customize a home. So, we had to stick with a lot model. When we moved in four months ago, the home was exceptional but the longer we are living in it, I am really not impressed with the quality of the mobile home. The wood on the interior doors does not have the best quality and the windows are drafty. I thought we were getting good quality because the home was newly built and it was not sitting around for a long time.
Other than that, Corey and the whole team have been totally awesome about helping us to get things fixed. They were out here as quickly as they could schedule for our main door issue and they were able to get it fixed. Although, there was nothing they could do with the drafty windows as it is a manufacturer’s issue. I'm single and I don’t have a lot of needs or requirements, just basic or something simple, and that's what appealed to me about Clayton Homes. I got one on the lot and there were so many steps to get everything going with the home buying process -- having to get all the bells and whistles and all the paperwork, going to the tax office and getting the deeds because I had to trade in an older home that was here and get the title transferred over. It was a good bit of running around to get everything in order, but all in all, it was not too bad.
Six months prior to that, I was trying to buy a house, but they fell through on their end, so I was already doing the runaround once and Clayton wasn’t as bad as that. The process with Clayton took longer than normal for them to get some things together, but I understand they had to make out some things that were working through. They didn’t get me in my place until about a month and a half after they were scheduled to have everything set up.
They had issues where the setup crew went and they backed it out into the set when they were setting the home up. They ran into the septic and had to get all that repaired. Everything got fixed, although it took time. Nonetheless, I'm happy with everything. I just wish I had told them to level the property because there was a home on it before and I thought it was leveled, but apparently, it wasn’t leveled and when they came and set the home up, the underpinnings weighed it on the ground. It is just cosmetic and it is something I can fix later on down the road, but it was an expense that needed to be factored in prior to me buying the house and I was unaware of. It's just one of the things that slipped through the paperwork when I was doing it. There are no hard feelings on that and it's completely on me.
I never had any issues with the functionality of the house or the actual structure, nonetheless, and I haven't had an electric bill over 100 bucks yet, so I have no complaints. My parents have a Clayton Home as well and it's about 10 years old now. I've noticed some general design changes in the overall house over the years and some things that Clayton is doing now make a lot more sense, like the water shut-off valve right in the laundry room is awesome.
Wow! We appreciate your detailed feedback, Zackary! We're so glad to hear that all of the runaround and delays has paid off and you're happy with the home. We love hearing when our customers keep Clayton in the family. We're honored that your parents chose us, and even more honored that you chose to follow suit. My husband surprised me and set up an appointment for us to bring certain little things back. We started in May and June we had it because they had to build my new home because I wanted four bedrooms. I liked everything, But then, after they moved it to my spot, stuff got messed up. When we did a walkthrough we had to write down whatever we seen once the trailer got here because when we had to go back there, after they finished, everything was right. But then after they brought it, you could see different little things didn't happen. But it was some work that they supposedly should have done. I spoke with somebody since September and it haven't got done. I wished Jeremy was still there because I felt like I knew him and things have happened when he was there. Last summer, we bought three mobile homes and there was one of them that the factory has never come back and fixed issues on.
There was another home that I bought a few years ago and no sooner than I got the home, the wind was blowing the shingles off of it. To make the long story short, I put the shingles back on there and got reimbursed. Clayton ended up having the factory come out. The factory man said that the shingles were messed up. There was no word from the shingles manufacturer. The man got up there with his caulking gun and did a lot of filling through the shingles. But, he even said the tar was ripped and it wasn’t even in the right spot. Clayton never did anything about it. I just paid it, had a roof put on the house and had been done with it. I wished the one we bought where I can just bind a black paper on them. That way I can just get my guy to put the 3-tab shingles on it and be done with it. Still, the people at Clayton Homes in Lynchburg were great people to deal with.
Thank you for your detailed and candid feedback, Sidney. We appreciate yours and your father's continued business with Clayton. We're sorry to hear that things didn't go well with the roof on one of the houses. We'll touch base with the Home Center and Home Building Facility and use your feedback to improve our processes.

Recently purchased a home and the whole experience has been a disaster. We had no days notice to move out our old house and so they could move it and bring in the new one. All we got was a knock on the door saying, “Can you get your stuff out.” Then we have had nothing but problems with the staff and the plant technicians and supposedly our house doesn’t get caulked or the staples in the walls don’t get taken care. According to the manager that is how a house is supposed to be. If I was Clayton I would be embarrassed to put my name on this product.

Clayton Homes was so much easier to work with than the other people. Their customer service was excellent. The home consultant that we worked with was awesome. She did everything that she said she was gonna do and she kept in touch with us in every step of the way. She addressed everything. It's a good trailer, and we got a new washer and dryer included in it.

We were looking for a new home and we happened to talk to somebody else that we knew that was buying a home. They were buying theirs from Clayton Homes, so as we shopped, we went by there and compared them to the others, and we decided to go with Clayton Homes. Everybody there was great and helpful. They answered all the questions that I had and they seemed to find time for me every time I needed to ask something or talk to them. They were always polite, courteous and were all knowledgeable on their job. They helped me through knowing what I was getting and how it was gonna work. They also told me what I needed upfront to get the loan to go through. I took care of that and they took care of their end, and it was a good experience.
I like the concept of the home and the way it is. The only thing I did to it to upgrade it, that I've done myself, was I added a taller toilet. I'm 6'4." I love the home. The insulation package worked better than I thought. It has kept my electric bill down and it has been efficient. All the walls are stable. The only place that I see anything I would change is the wasted space where the water heater closet is. It is an awfully big place and it could have been part of the pantry. I would definitely recommend Clayton Homes, nonetheless.
Thank you so much for the positive feedback, William! We are so pleased to hear that your home buying experience went so well and that your Home Center's team was so great to work with! We're happy that you're happy! Congratulations on your new home!

They walked us through the steps of what was gonna happen, how much we had to put down and how much each home costs. They helped me buy my home and set it up. They didn’t even complain when I told them I wanted to move the house in a certain way. They moved it around for me and then had it set just the way I wanted. I like our home and I'm pretty satisfied.

Clayton Homes had a package deal where they helped clients purchase the land before closing. They also had a couple of options and their consultant was great. He always responded and it would be immediate, sometimes depending on who he had to track down to get an answer and then he'll tell me what he knows then and try to keep me in the loop. When you're dealing with accounting, permitting and all the other outside forces though, there are all kinds of issues and sometimes the answer was he's still waiting, like for an inspection. Anyway, I had quite a few customizations. I wanted a rainfall showerhead, so they redid the plumbing and the roofline was changed. The home looks great and any time an issue popped up, because parts of it were built out-of-state, my local dealer came out and took care of it. They were a couple of hours away from where it was built but they would come out usually the next day. They responded quickly.
That's so great to hear, Terri! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're so happy to know that your home buying experience went so well and that you were able to customize the home to be exactly what you want and need! Congratulations on your new home!

My father passed 3 years ago and left my mother who is 76 now, on her own raising 2 Great granddaughters. After much thought and prayer I sold my brick home and moved with her to help her. She lived in an older brick house they had purchased 30 odd years ago. It was not big enough for me and my daughter who was expecting her first child, so after living there in cramped quarters we decided to get a house together and put it on land my mother already owned. We ended up going with a Clayton house because of affordability for the size of home we needed. We have been in our home almost 3 months now and it’s been nothing but trouble after trouble. First I want to say the salesperson and the home center we brought from, Clayton Homes in Angus Tx, was very great working with. They were very helpful and took lots of time with us.
I don’t really feel the problems I’m having is any way their fault. It all stems from the quality and workmanship of the house. I know things were not going to be quite up to the standards of living in a brick home but I feel that the homes we looked at on the lots were made with better quality materials than actually used on our house. The cabinets are very thin and fragile feeling. It is a veneer over particle board I believe. Not painted. The walls are very thin and sound travels room to room. I’m in the Master and feel no privacy. We have had too many repairs and stuff that needs repaired to list. But one of the major ones is my light switch and outlets on 2 walls in master does not even work. And the contractor they sent out (which 2 have actually looked at it but only one even really did) says it is going to require a master electrician to rewrite.
That was 3 weeks ago and still have not heard from them. The master bathroom has a separate shower and bathtub. Every faucet in the bathroom and the rest at the house has piping hot water but the bathtub in the master. The water is barely lukewarm. I have not been able to use the bathtub since moved in. And they have refused to send anyone to look at it stating they think it was a safety valve problem and that they were not allowed to do it. I had insisted they sent someone out after having a family member he is a plumber look at it and he said it was no safety valve on it. They have responded but not sent anyone. The siding on the house is coming off and repaired but came off again. There is just too much to list. I’m very upset and looking into my options. I would definitely advise against buying a Clayton Homes. I feel we should get a whole new house to be honest.

My husband and I were looking around and weren’t really planning on buying a home. We went to Clayton Homes and we saw a mobile home that we liked. The consultants were very friendly. However, I wish they could have lowered their price so I could have gotten the home I wanted. Our credit was good enough for it but we couldn't afford the payments on it. We saw another one that was cheaper and we got it. I love the quality of the home as well as my tub and kitchen. I got the deluxe bathroom with the sunken tub that didn’t originally come with it. If I ever get enough money, I will go back and do another land package deal with Clayton and get the Commando which was the trailer I wanted in the first place. I love Clayton Homes and I will recommend them to anybody.
We're so happy to hear that your buying experience went so well, Margaret! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story with us. We purchased a house from Clayton Homes about a year ago. Salesperson was super friendly. Asked all the right questions and helped us pick the house that we wanted. That’s why I gave 1 star. Everything after that was a disaster. The contractor they sent to do the work of setting up only showed up when he wanted to. They finally fired him and got someone else out here to finish the job. I have a 5 bedroom double wide. Lots of issues.
This is a list of issues after 1 year in the house. 1. When they connected the dishwasher they forgot to connect the water. When we contacted them about no water they said it wasn’t their problem so we had to pay a plumber to come do it. 2. The ceiling is cracking at all the intersections of Sheetrock. They said it’s from the house settling. Again not their problem even though we paid them to set the pad and level our house. 3. All the trim is falling off. I paid someone to come out the first couple of times to fix it but finally just bought a Brad nailer and fix it myself when it happens.
4. The cheap light switches they used are starting to go out. Thought it was light bulbs but it’s not. The electrician has replaced 3 so far because the lights weren’t working. 5. Our bathroom locks do not work. We will have to replace those. And our front door lock won’t unlock from the inside half the time. I’m scared we will have an emergency and not be able to get out before I can replace that lock. (For the second time). That’s not all of our issues but you get the idea. I would not buy again from Clayton Homes. They have not given us any service after the sale.

Clayton Homes was a cheaper option for me. But the home buying process - looking and trying to find what you want - was aggravating. I wish I could have what I wanted. It's a hard decision to make when you go picking out something. Otherwise, my consultant was all right and I didn’t have any problems. Clayton has done everything they said they were gonna do so far.
To come out of the mountains to our Clayton home right here was hard to get used to, but we adjusted. We sort of like it and don’t because we lived in a house in the mountains for many years. We were used to burning wood and we had done that for about 40 years. Now, we have a heat pump which is hard to get used to. But we are getting more settled in, and we like it more and more all the time. I’m satisfied.

The manager has sent out their repairman numerous times to try to fix the problem. In 10/2018 the repairman came out and said that another new door would be ordered. And a new faucet would be ordered because when the hot water side is turned on, it squeals. Now the kitchen faucet is doing the same thing. Now it is 1/17/2019 and no one has been came out. My husband and I just purchased a new Clayton home. This home was well over $100,000. We have been in it now for 2 months. At our first walkthrough of the home a lot of things were wrong. Kitchen counter needed replacing, mudroom counter needed replacing, front door, french door, and mudroom door all would not close properly and the latches on the doors were crooked, screws or nails (not sure at this point) are under the carpet in the master bedroom, the paint job throughout the house is a very poor job, cracks in the ceiling and walls, leaks under 3 out of 5 sinks, and trim not on properly. A couple days ago we discovered a leak in the master bedroom closet and found out the master shower must come out and the floor in the master bathroom will have to be replaced! We are disgusted. How did this house pass inspection before being released? Plus, we have been living here two months and the porches haven't been built yet.

Clayton Homes' workers and the salesman were easy to deal with and they explained things well. Everybody was professional and everyone I talked to was really nice. It took a while to get my loan but that was the first home I’ve bought in years, so it may just be the process. I went in in February of last year and we closed on April the 25th. There were a lot of the things that I happened to round up then I had to get all of my paystubs and W2s together, and that took a little time. So, it was not anything that Clayton Homes did.
Then, once I got all of that turned in, there was a little bit of back and forth with getting stuff in line. Other than that, everything was really good The house is nice and I like it. The quality of the build is good as well and I’ve enjoyed it. But they still haven’t quite finished the repairs that need to be done. I looked up manufactured home sales and Marion popped up. Clayton had selections and the house I liked was there. I was thinking about building a smaller house versus that. I chose that because everything was done right. I also went with Clayton for the price. I’m satisfied with the home-buying process. I paid cash so the process was really quick, a matter of a couple of days. Then somebody hit something when he brought the trailer out, but Clayton went above and beyond to take care of me so I wasn’t stirring any problem.
John was a good sales consultant. I met him out there and he was friendly, didn’t give any pressure and made sure he answered my question. As a matter of fact, he drove to me which is a little hard from Marion and bought me lunch and I thought that was really awesome. I’ve lived in the house since May and I'm really happy so far.
Wow! That's awesome to hear, Jason! It's great to hear how happy you are with your home buying experience, with John, and with the home itself! Thank you for sticking with us when there was that bump in the road while delivering the home, we appreciate it. Congratulations on your new home!

I like the house we got from Clayton Homes. There were a couple of little things which come along with manufactured homes that we just had to deal with but for the most part, everything was good. The reps were all very friendly whenever I went on the lot and talked to them about what I was interested in. I gave them some ideas as to what I was looking for, my time frame to where I wanted to be at and they were very accommodating. They knew the product that they were selling, tried to stick to what I was looking for and didn't push anything that wasn't necessary. Clayton Homes has a good product especially for a starter home and they're easy to deal with.
Thank you for the positive feedback, Aaron! We're so glad to hear that everything went well and that you got exactly the home you needed! Congratulations!

My application with Clayton went well enough. Everybody was good and their home buying process was great. I was approved in timely order and got a 14x60 home with two bedrooms and two baths. Though I had a few problems namely two doors that leaked, they replaced two and fixed the last one they put in. They've done everything they said they would do.

Clayton Homes is near where we live. They have a good service and a good price. Also, they weren’t pushy as far as the salesmanship. So, we went with them. The loan process was completed within six weeks and everything went very smoothly. They were very helpful and everyone was very supportive. If the salesperson that we were dealing with directly wasn’t available, someone else took over. They communicated very well and they came out to our site four times to check on the progress of how the land work was taking place. Their service was excellent. We really love the house a lot, too. Overall, our experience with Clayton was great.
We LOVE to hear that, Neale! Thank you so much for taking the time to share that positive feedback with us. It sounds like you experienced exactly what we want all of our customers to experience while buying their home! We appreciate you letting us know. Congratulations on your new home!

The staff at Clayton Homes were great. Did have a few issues with them not being informed or passing on information. The wife and I love the house. Construction on the other part stunk. I am having a wall replaced for shoddy workmanship. Bowed. Crown molding cracked all through the house. Baseboard doing the same. When we first turned on the water. Leaks galore. Hoses to the spickets leaked. Not tight. I thought there was a inspection process that had to be done before delivery. Still I love the house. We are here. Can't leave. For what we paid, there should not be headaches. I can live with a nail pop. Glad there is a 1 year warranty.
Edward & Pat, we're sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your home. It's good to know that that your home buying experience went well, and we appreciate you letting us know! But, we are going to check in on those repairs you're needing and someone will be in touch.

I went to six different home builders and Clayton Homes seemed to be a lot more comfortable to deal with. They were a lot nicer and they took a lot more time to explain things. Jeremy, the general manager, was such a nice guy. I’ve recommended other people to talk to him. He has the attitude that it’s not all about the company and him, it’s more about what can he do to make me happy. Any time I’ve ever had any problem and I’d call him within a short period of time, depending on what it is, it’s been taken care of so I have no complaints.
There was only one thing I got disappointed in and it had something to do with the previous manager. I had another address and I wanted the title to be mailed to that address, and they lost my title. So now, I got a brand new home that we paid cash for and I ended up having to have a duplicate title. It bothered me a little bit and there was nothing Jeremy could do about it by that time. It wasn't his fault. Other than that, I didn’t have any problems and I hope Clayton just keeps doing what they’re doing and hang on to Jeremy ‘cause he’s the main wheel in there that keeps it going. Pam is wonderful too when I call for maintenance or need stuff done and I’ve never had a problem with her either. The quality of the home is wonderful and I couldn't be happier. I would recommend Clayton Homes.
Thank you so much for your detailed review, Steven! We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed working with Jeremy, and with Pam! We're sorry to hear about the issue that happened with your title, but we sincerely appreciate your understanding and are grateful you stuck with us. Congratulations on your new home!

We’ve had very minimal issues with anything. They do a good job down at Morgantown. I was satisfied with them.

They told us that all of homes were going on sale, and it was more in the price range of what we wanted, so we took it and it was all right. The service was good. While everything was fine on their end, I had some paperwork issues with the trade in so the whole buying process took about 3 months. Then there are a few minor things they happen to have to come back out and fix. Some of my flooring's trim or edging are popping out and the nails or whatever they used on them are not deep enough ‘cause it’s popping out. Also, my countertop is still not screwed down. They came in, put some heat on it and it came right back up. Other than those issues, everything is great. I love the home. I will refer Clayton to anybody.

My brother bought a home from Clayton Homes and he had a good experience with them. Clayton is convenient and close to us, so we decided to go with them as well. The home-buying process was easy and I was satisfied. They finished it as they should do. It took about three and a half to four months from the time they got started with the application to the time we moved in. The staff at Clayton was great and I don't think they could have been even better. They were kind, friendly and polite. They were like they have known me all my life. They answered the questions and took care of me any way they could.
The home is great, except for the water heater and we are getting it worked right now. The water heater went out last week and we’ve been trying to get a water heater in the house for a week. It has to be replaced. We got a tech come out here and do it, and the tech said that they got to take out the hot water here, but I said no. I’m not taking it out. It’s got a warranty from what I understood, but they told me that if they find another water heater and if it costs more than the one we have, I gotta pay the difference. And that is not right. There is a year’s warranty and it should be replaced free of charge. The water heater is my only downfall about the place, but it’s not with Clayton Homes. It’s with the manufacturer. Clayton Homes is doing all they can to help us with everything.
We called Clayton Homes and they told us who to call. We had to call the manufacturer, the one that built the mobile home. We had to call somebody up there and they told us who to call and who to get a hold of. We went to customer service warranty department and that is who we are dealing with. I’m supposed to have somebody coming out, but no one has called me. They gotta come out here and take it out, take it to them for the warranty, and come back to put it back in. It’s the manufacturer that’s giving me the runaround and a hard time.
My brother bought his home about 11 years ago and haven't had a bit of trouble with it. That is why we bought a home from Clayton. They came right out to work and if we had a problem, they came out to fix it. Clayton told us what to do, so we go with what they say. They said they would do everything they have done. They got the home done for us as it was supposed to be. They got it here and they set up, put up, and fixed up, and it was ready for us going in. I couldn’t ask for anybody better than the people they have to deal with. If I had to buy another home down the road, I’ll buy another one. I have told the people that ask where we bought our home and they have been checking Clayton out. What we have is really nice and we had it custom-made. We tell our people to talk to Clayton. I love our home and the people at Clayton went out their way to take care of us.

We're glad to hear that your brother has had a great experience with his Clayton home, and we're just as excited to hear that you had a wonderful purchasing experience. We're sorry to hear about the issues you've had with your hot water heater though! We're going to check in and see what kind of update we can get and then someone will be in touch with you! We didn't wonder about anything because they would answer anything we've had.
After we got the house, I felt like some things were not nailed in properly on the walls, but I know that happens whenever you move in. Everything was fixed, except our counter had some problems. They fixed it, but it messed up something else. They were supposed to come back, and they never did. We also kept calling them about some stuff they hadn't fixed yet and it's not yet fixed. All in all, getting the house went smoothly. It was nice and we ended up getting ours on sale. I'd recommend them.

We bought a house from Clayton Homes and we liked the way that it was built. And whenever we're just looking, we decide to go by there. Recently, we bought from them again and we dealt with Scott. He was really nice. He always worked with us and he did a really good job on everything. The whole process took about a year to complete though. We went in Clayton Mobile Homes up in Waynesville and bought a home there but we were moving it up to the mountains and there was bad weather up there. Every time we turned around, they couldn't get it in there because of the weather. It was on a flood plain, too, where we had to make sure everything was high enough.
In the meantime, my wife had cancer and she had to have surgery. So, that put us a little bit farther along than we thought. Then, when we finally got ready to do it, put the deposit on it, and had it held, the headwoman that was over it went up on about $3,000 from when we signed the papers and paid the deposit. She also said that was the only way she could sell it to us, so I told her that she could keep the house. I then called Scott back over in Shelby and we went up there to talk to him. He said he'd work with us and that he'd do everything he could, so we got the same trailer from him.
So far, we love the quality of the home. It’s a summer home and we hadn't been up there a whole lot during the winter. But other than that, everything’s great. At first, they brought it straight from the factory to the lot an they never went to the store. So, whenever they got done, Scott told me to look and see whatever we needed to be done. Then he sent a person up there and they fixed everything we needed. Both of the houses that we bought from Clayton are Connor Homes and we really like both of them.
We appreciate your detailed feedback, Michael! We're sorry to hear that things didn't go well and ultimately didn't work out with the Waynesville location, but we're happy to know that the Shelby location was able to get you taken care of. We'll definitely let Scott know how much you enjoyed working with him as well! We hope that your wife is doing well and that you all enjoy the new summer home!

I had a great experience with Clayton Homes. I live in Kentucky, but then, this home is something that we put on the lake over there in Tennessee. In that area, the company that I work for sells them some stuff, and then, I've also got a friend that bought one too that put me on this particular dealership. I've looked around several places, but Chris, their salesman in Rogersville, was excellent. He did a great job and he didn't push me. If I had a question, he'd answer it. Otherwise, he just left me alone, and that was the way I like it. We got out and run around, and found the home that we wanted. We actually found one that we liked in Kentucky, and they had one on the lot in Rogersville. They broke things down for me and gave me my options on how I needed to do it. What little problems we had, they fixed them right off the bat. Clayton at Rogersville is an awesome place and I'd recommend them.

I stuck with one person to cut down on some of the confusion in purchasing a modular home. So, I went with Clayton Homes. I had a good salesman, Monroe, who worked hand in hand with me and explained everything as I went along. I was impressed with his congeniality. He was also very complimentary and he sucked me right in. The relationship between me and Clayton's salespeople was very good and they’re nice people to have in the community. Clayton's overall process was also good and they kept me notified.
But at the manufacturing level, they must’ve hired all the incompetence from miles around. I have a tub and they put a wood skirt around it. They also put in a new outlet. But the ventilation system is not working right and the master bedroom is very cold. They came yesterday and put in another ventilation duct in the floor. So it was a little better last night, but not really good. There are still some major problems here that somebody’s gonna have to deal with. But every time the fan comes on to heat the place, the return air is so high that it sucks air right in through from the outside. I had to get the AC people to explain that to me. I’ve been working with Clayton Homes here in Spotsylvania and they've been very cooperative and sympathetic to the problems. They also sent somebody right out. But these things keep showing up.
When I came in in the bedroom, the electrical outlet was hanging out of the wall. Somebody just somehow stuck the receptacle in there and didn’t nail it down to a stand. Apparently, when they unplugged their Sawzall from a nearby receptacle, they pulled the receptacle right out of the wall. There has been a lot of stuff like that. Plus, I need to address the issue with the insulation in my ventilation piping. I also had a little trouble with the air conditioning not being what I thought it would be. The bill payer is uncomfortable. Aside from that, my front and my back storm doors won’t close and they never fit right from the get-go. They hit the door casing and as far as doors, I had to slam on past that to get the storm door to close.
So far, I had 27 items that were pretty well took care of. Clayton got people down here and they were good people. They had no attitudes or anything like that. Right now, I’m about to launch a new punch list in a new billing. That's when they finish putting the building together, then everybody goes to work and develop some punch list of discrepancy or problems and submit it back to the contractor. I got a five-year guarantee on everything and I’m just playing along with the way they’re working and we’ll get them all fixed eventually.
But my point of view is that I bought a new house with all new appliances and equipment, and all should be practically new. But Clayton does not have a good professional inspector, particularly with this house. It went out with a lot of discrepancies and I didn’t expect some of the problems that I'm coming up with now. It makes me wonder whether the people that are in the office understand what’s going on in the field. I talked with the salesman about coming out in the house and he said he has never been out to the house. All he does is sell them.
Clayton has more than one person out there running the show anyhow and these are some things that somebody in the upper echelon needs to look at in Clayton Homes as far as quality control. Everything looks good when you get it, but it ain’t so good. I’m not trying to make any noise though. I just wanna get what I paid for and get down the road. But I’ve never been angry about anything. Their reps were very cordial to talk to at the home site and mostly, I was very satisfied the people at Clayton. But I don’t like the people they hire to do the skilled work. They certainly aren’t very skilled. I got a bath tub sent here right next to an outside wall that has no siding between me and the outside. So, that is one situation. I’ve been trying to get things straightened out since last May when we went to closing and things are moving along slowly. But they did get the first list worked out back in November.

We started out with the Clayton Homes in Chino Valley, but that experience was not so hot. Then we met the rep, Ashley, at the Clayton Homes in Glendale. Most warranty requests were completely ignored even though we submitted them in a Word document via email to the dealer. They did NOT honor their warranty in that they did not fix everything on our list. Much of the finished product looked rushed. For example, the trim didn't match up, light switches were crooked, the airflow was off in one of the rooms, there was a lot of over spray, there were missing screws on the breaker box, there were several strange uneven spots in the floor, the dishwasher was installed broken, there were cracks in the shower, there were holes in the shower, there was missing paint on the exterior, and last but certainly not least, we have had the house for 1 year and have already had a roof leak and are having to replace the entire roof, etc. etc. etc.
They didn't even send Clayton employees to fix the house. It was always some unknown contractor who just tried to get out of doing the work. One said he would return and never did and then claimed he fixed things he never even looked at. My girl and I are both teachers. I spent my life savings on the down payment and did NOT get the house I paid for. It has caused a rather dark depression for both of us. As teachers, we have to just take it. They refused to honor the warranty. I mean really, what can we do?
I would never recommend dealing with this truly disgusting company. To take someone's money for something and not give them what they paid for is fraud. I suppose it would be easy to make money if I advertised one thing but delivered something else and then refused to make it right especially when you do it to people who are of a lesser socioeconomic class who can't send an army of lawyers after you. At this point, if I could, I would haul this house away and buy a completely new house. The only comfort I have is that Karma is real. You simply can't treat people this way and get away with it. The universe will deliver like to like.

Clayton Homes was right across the road from where we lived. When we first went there, we worked with Judy who had been there for years. And then, we couldn't sell our home. So, we backed out of even looking. And then, a couple of years later, we went back and worked with Connie. And she was just awesome, together with Rob and Judy. She was very conscientious and she understood what we wanted. I was impressed with the way she didn't act like a salesman.
As far as the process of buying the house, it was fine. I was upfront with them and I told them they gotta be upfront with us and they were. If I had any questions, they answered. They'd call me right back with it. I'd just stop there and tell them we got to talk and then we'd sit and talk, and they jump right on it. It was the easiest thing I ever did as far as buying a house. We made some friends and I had sent people to them.
We had one little problem in the construction. I wanted a double lot. I didn’t wanna go and extend ‘cause there was no money. I had the inside just like my modular like I wanted it. I wanted the double-wide roof and I didn't care about any upgrades. We found out my land was on had to be a double-wide or a stick-built. It had to be modular or a stick-built. So, we had to go back to the drawing board for that. We had to rewrite it. We found out in December they had to start that up. They jumped on that process and Rob got in behind Clayton Homes or where were they building at, and my house was ready in April.
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback, Debra! We're so glad to hear that the timing eventually worked out for you to buy a home from us. We're also so happy that you enjoyed working with Judy, Rob, and Connie! We appreciate you sticking with us during the issue with your land, and are relieved to know everything worked out. My experience with Clayton Homes was good. All of them in there were good to work with and I enjoyed working with them. I even got housewarming gifts. Their customer service was excellent and the purchase actually didn’t take that long. But I had a lot of hindrance in my way like land and easements. LGI worked with me though. They helped me make phone calls and handled Duke Energy for me. So they were a big help. I got the home on the land at the end of November and I closed in April. So that took about six months and so far, the quality of the build is good. It was a mobile home but I turned it into a modular. I customized the flooring and that stands out. They’re different.
We're so glad to hear that your home buying experience went well, Angie! Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us. It's great that you were able to customize the home to be exactly what you need. Congratulations!

I bought the Smithfield last year after a difficult start with a salesman when Joanne stepped in and smoothed everything out. She basically saved the sale along with Bonnie and Shane. I love my new home with one major exception - the 45 gallon hot water heater doesn't fill the master bathtub! The lot did everything they could, but still cannot use the tub. I've called corporate about it only for them to keep telling me they will look into it and call me back. Keep in mind this has been going on since I bought my home and I still can't use the tub due to not enough hot water. They sell homes with a Roman tub and a small hot water heater that only fills the tub up with max 6 inches of water before it turns ice cold! Everything else in this home is wonderful.
Thank you for the positive feedback, Gayle. We're sorry to hear that things were off to a rough start, but we're glad to hear that it got smoothed out. We're going to look into the matter with your tub and someone will be in touch.

Our sales guy was West and I liked him. He was a good sales guy. But we were kind of expecting a little more from the house by what they promised us or what they told us. It's not exactly what we got. We were told that the exterior walls were plywood like a regular home. But when we had some guys out with my husband to take a look at the wall, they took down a piece of the siding, and he realized that it was like particle board or compressed cardboard. So we're not happy about that. We were under the impression that we're going to have actual walls, and that's not the case at all. The manufacturing part of the home itself sucks. The quality that you get from the manufacturer is not good and they are lollygagging. Clayton Homes' hands are just tied at this point, but they've done their best with what they've got to work with. I like the people that work there. They're awesome. But we've got a whole laundry list of things for them to fix from the manufacturer.

After several calls to both Highland Hills and Clayton Homes they have done nothing in almost a year. Now some of siding they did replace has fallen off in the wind. They were also very attentive. If I had a concern, they took care of it promptly. We had never lived in a mobile home before as we've always lived in typical construction houses, but the one we got is very well-insulated. I’m even considering going back again for an add-on or for one of my daughters. The one disappointment is that the hardware and the doors are not great quality. But I've been very pleased with the overall construction because it’s very cold out and there’s at least a 30-degree difference, sometimes more. Meanwhile, the guy at Clayton comes back if anything is messed up and fixes it. He was good. However, the manager that we bought the place from, he did well until after we bought it. He pissed me off cause he said that I didn't buy a Taj Mahal and just bought a trailer and that comment didn't sit too well with me. He doesn't work there anymore though. Also, they got a beginner to build my single-wide trailer. When you look at the doors, they're not straight across me, like they didn't hang them right. Still, I am very satisfied with what we have. It's perfect and we love it, we couldn't ask for a better place. Also, if I call down there and have a problem, the girls in the office get right on to it. Clayton Homes is local, up the road in Roxboro, and I decided I wanted to do someone local. Just in case there were problems, there's somebody close by to get back in touch with. They also have a good reputation. I heard a lot of good things about Clayton, and I think they've been voted Retailer of the Year several times. The home buying process with Clayton was good and the salesman that I dealt with was very good about getting back in touch with me. If I had questions or anything that I needed to know, he'd let me know. There were a few minor issues here and there, and the people at Clayton were very good about getting out here as quick as possible to get things taken care of.
Working with Clayton was everything I expected. The home I purchased was already on the lots. I looked at three that I was trying to decide between. And one of these that I was looking at got moved to their clearance lot and that was a substantial saving in money. I took that house and it was just a question of getting it out here. We have some weather issues with a lot of rain and stuff that held us up a bit, but that was out of their control. Once they got started, it went quickly. The build of the home is good quality and so far, I haven't had any problems with it.

We went around and compared prices. Although we liked some of the other homes, a lot of them were either too expensive or the reviews weren't what we expected. Also, when we went to some of the other places, we were walking around outside for 20 minutes but nobody came out to greet us. Then with some of them, we went into the office and when we talked to them, they told us to go out, take a look around and let them know what we think.
Then we checked out Clayton and the service was a lot better. They immediately took us in since we got there. They told us about the history and what they had. From the beginning, they were very helpful. The home consultant we worked with also seemed like she's been doing it for a long time. I was impressed with her friendliness and knowledge. I would like a bigger yard though and maybe a little bit more variety. They had an area for single wide and an area for double wide. But they didn't have a whole lot of triple wide.
When we moved in, they had a guy come out and we went through and noted anything that needed to be fixed. The hood above our range did not work and he ended up replacing the entire hood because he said the motor was out. The unit was brand new but the motor was out. The only real issue that I had though was the vinyl siding in the front of my home, right above the living room window. They had trimmed it too short. But when I told him about it, he basically said I was stuck with it because it was a manufacturer's defect when they built the home. He said he only comes out and replaces stuff, like the light. He replaced the light fixture for the front porch. Also, we had a big long crack in our master bedroom ceiling but they said that happened during the move. Things were gonna happen during the move and I knew that. But I also had to tell them to double check the plumbing. Otherwise, the house has seemed to be holding up pretty well.
We're so glad that you chose Clayton, Douglas. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us such detailed feedback about your buying experience. I had to have a place to get in fast because I was living with somebody and I wanted to come home. Clayton homes were the first ones that I looked at, and I went with them. I’ve had a bad experience with them however. I’ve had several issues with the trailer, but they're things I can fix. The problem was mainly the flooring that had big bumps in the mold. A worker came back out and tacked the mold, and now the molding is all right. I’m also having trouble with the one of the toilets but it’s nothing major. I like the rest of the quality in my new home, and people who come here like it as well.
I'm also having a problem with the lady that works in the office. She told me, and I have several witnesses who were there with me, that if I would send somebody in to buy another trailer, they’d give me a certain amount of money. Apparently, that’s something they do. So I sent a girl in and her husband purchased a mobile home from Clayton. Then the lady said she was gonna put my name down and she promised me that I would get the money. I told her to make sure that happens, but now, they won’t even answer the phone when I call.
I live on a fixed income and I only get a bit a month from widow’s benefit. If Clayton is not gonna give me the money, they ought to tell me. I’ve been good and I hadn’t bothered them. But I told my daughter this morning to look up Clayton's main office because I may file a report. I’m gonna start calling and they’re coming out here and they’re gonna fix everything wrong with this trailer. My brother, meanwhile, is looking to buy himself a double wide and he’s looking at my home too. I told him to give Clayton a chance and see what they have. Overall, I’m satisfied with Clayton Homes.

We bought a home from Clayton Home Center in Lowell Arkansas. We were so very excited to buy our first home. At first the experience was EXCELLENT. Then we closed on the house. (and they got their down payment). Well they were trying to put us in another home... NOT the home we wanted and got the mortgage for. So that had to be fixed. It took a bit and we figured it was just an accident and they worked quickly to get it corrected. It did cost us another trip to Lowell. From the first time I contacted them about buying a new home I made it clear that time was of the essence. I explained our situation to them fully. Our old home had apparently been used to “cook **” in it when it was a rent house before my husband bought it. It started to cause all sorts of health problems. So we HAD to get out. They were super supportive and helpful. We closed on October 16th.
On October 29th our old house was bulldozed. My kids and I started staying with my dad 30 miles from our home site and jobs. My husband stayed in a Derksen building that was only partially insulated. We had been broken into and cleaned out several times when he was in the hospital for long periods of time. He wanted to prevent theft of what little we were able to keep out of the house. Some of our big stuff didn’t fit into the storage building with room for him to stay as well. So It was covered up outside since it was going to be a quick turn around. Now keep in mind It has periodically been in the teens at night. He is staying in a partially insulated STORAGE SHED!! They know this. My husband is disabled. He had open heart surgery last year (part of the conditions caused by the old house) and is a bilateral below the knee amputee. HE HAS NO LEGS!!!
Since it has been so long, most of our big stuff is ruined. The house has completely set up, tied down, skirted, with stairs and ramp built by December 4th. We are still not allowed to live in it. It is one thing after another, Wes had to take pictures to submit to the mortgage company, FHA inspectors, a “welcome home” walk through and after all this then they will have a better idea of when we can move in. WE HAVE BEEN HOMELESS SINCE OCTOBER 29th!!! They really don't care a bit either. Also, the guy that delivered and set up our home on November 21st was the person that was to hook up the water and sewer. His family was on their way to Iowa for Thanksgiving and he did not have time to hook everything up so he called Wes at Clayton's and got the go ahead for us to do the hook ups ourselves. We would be reimbursed up to $1500 for this since it was financed into our mortgage. Now they refuse to reimburse us.
I cleaned out my Savings in order to get this stuff done because we are all exhausted. We can send an invoice from our electrician friend that hooked up the power and that will be reimbursed... Where is the rest of that money going??? Definitely not to me! AND I HAVE TO PAY IT BACK!!! I am just completely exhausted even thinking about the crap this place has put me and my family through. I lost the new home joy a LONG time ago. Today is December 11th. We are still homeless. This is stupid. Is there any ADA laws that would help protect my Husband??? I guess I will DEFINITELY be looking into that!!! I would HIGHLY discourage anyone doing business with this company.
Carrie, we are so sorry to hear that your experience at our Lowell location has not gone well. We are going to look into the situation and someone will be in touch with you directly. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

However, I have been waiting to close on my mobile home since August of 2018 and it is now December of 2018. That lawyer that Clayton was not working on my best interest. In fact he was the same attorney another had used. This attorney wanted to know where I got the money the land, I had purchased. I felt obligated to tell him, that I sold my house in Charlotte and used the money to purchased the land. My credit union is going to finance my loan. They have given me an approval letter, talked to Clayton homes, yet I am still waiting for a closing date.
My credit has called me several times asking what is taking them so long because they too are ready for me to close. All of this leaves me with many questions, Why am I being treated this way? Is the profit not enough for Clayton Homes since I am financing with my credit union? Is Clayton Homes profiting more from the dealer homes sales and do they care about the average buyer?

And during that process, I had already picked out a place where I wanted the home put in. Everything went smoothly. I bought a lot model, I got a double wide. It is a mobile home and it's made on the cheap side. The home is complete and I got all the appliances. I put my own washer and dryer in. There are four bedrooms and two baths. The only thing that the home really lacked is storage, but I knew that going into it.
I've already contacted Clayton about moving forward because we're gonna eventually buy a piece of property in Tennessee, and I wanna put several homes in for my family. They've indicated that they will sell me factory-direct. And purchasing more than one home at a time, they'll give me discounts and whatever is available at that time. So, we're probably gonna end up purchasing another four homes from them here in the next three years.
That's so wonderful to hear, Richard! Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us how your experience went! It's so good to know that everything went so smoothly. We look forward to hopefully eventually helping you again when you move south!

The rep and the initial process were amazing, but I have holes in my walls because of staples and it's not hidden. There are nails too. Clayton Homes needs to slow down and not put nails through the holes, which are not gonna be covered. They also need to lay off the putty. It's bringing an oil base out through the wall and now I'm stuck with walls that have spots. It's been almost a year and the men are nice, but I don't like that they are still coming in and fixing things in the house. All in all, the new house is good in some places, but in some, it's not.
Thank you for your feedback, Sarah! The information you provided regarding your walls is very beneficial for us. We'll be passing it along to your Home Building Facility so that they can use it to better their processes. We had stopped at Clayton Homes a time or two before and whether the people were just really busy or they didn’t care, we felt then that we were getting first to decide. We were looking at homes and I knew I was gonna buy something, but I couldn’t decide. Then, we walked in when Daniel happened to be there and he talked to us. We had several questions that day and he answered every one of them, so we made up our mind that if we are to buy a home, it would be from him. He was great and very helpful. We were happy with how the buying process went. The only glitch we had was, due to some money that I inherited, I had to explain why I had a big deposit in my account. We customized our home and that went smoothly as well.
Also, the overall quality of our home is great. There have been a few little things, however, which just come from it being manufactured. With these homes coming from mass production, I feel like sometimes they just get slapped together in a hurry. But Clayton has been really good with the issues, and had sent somebody out to fix everything we’ve asked them. I’d recommend them to anybody.
We sincerely appreciate your feedback, Bruce. Thank you so much! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed working with Daniel and that your home buying experience went smoothly. It's also great to know you're happy with the quality and that the issues you had were repaired quickly!

The home buying process with Clayton Homes was fine and I had a really good experience with the salesman. He was really nice. Clayton did a great job setting up our home. They put a fireplace in it and they changed out the stove for me. I also had carpet put in the den. However, the quality of the home could be better. Everything else got fixed except the fireplace and the salesman is supposed to be working on it. My fireplace is still messed up. They didn’t do a really good job on it. They were supposed to have sent somebody out, but they never have. I got two rocks that looked terrible. They put a rock on one side at the top then put it on the other and put plaster, and it’s already cracked. The floors in it are not really good flooring and the floors flake. There were things like that that could have been better. Despite that, I'd still recommend them.
We appreciate your feedback and positive review, Ann. We're glad to hear that your home buying process went well and that you'd recommend Clayton. We are going to follow up on the issues with your fireplace, and someone should be in touch soon!

Clayton was the best deal around, so I went with them. The service that I got there was incomparable with any other place that I went to and the prices were reasonable. I talked to Brittany there, she was the lady who sold me the home, and she was really nice and courteous. Every question that I asked her about the home, she had an answer for me and she wasn't guessing at it. If she didn't know the answer, she was upfront and asked me to give her a couple of minutes to find out for me. But the thing that meant the most was she didn't force me into anything and wouldn’t rush me. She just gave me a key to the ones I wanted to look at, told me to take my time, and said to come and talk to her when I was ready.
The quality of the home is pretty good considering the long journey that it had to make. There were a few small repairs that I had to make but they were nothing major and nothing that wouldn't be expected anywhere else. Also, there are a couple of things that I would have done a little differently. For instance, if I was building it to sell to a consumer, I would probably go with a little higher-end faucets and a lot bigger carpet. In fact, I already had to change the carpet out because there was no padding at all under it and when you're walking on it, you're feeling the nails that the plywood is nailed down with.
Other than that, Clayton's reps have called me up four times since I purchased the home to check on me. They wanted to see how things were going and if there was anything they could do. They’ve been really courteous after the fact and weren't just in a hurry to sell you a home where they never worry about you again. I was happy with all the service done and I couldn't ask for anything better. As long as they can keep that up, I'd be more than happy to recommend them to anybody.
We appreciate your detailed feedback and your positive review, Shannon! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are definitely going to pass along your feedback regarding the faucets and carpeting to our Home Building Group. We're thrilled to hear that you're happy with the home and that you enjoyed working with Brittany. Thanks again for the kind words and congratulations on your new home!

Clayton Homes helped us find our property to put the home on and found an exceptional builder to do the construction side of it. Those guys were really moving and we got moved in faster. The home was ready before we thought it was gonna be and it was exceptional and more than I expected. We did a larger opening on the master shower and got rid of the tub option since we don't use the tub a lot.
The office staff, our sales agent, especially the field technicians, were all awesome. They were always available if I had any questions. From the time we did the initial assessment of the home to getting things repaired was a bit timely, but everything else was great. The home buying experience was very good and seamless. I'm completely satisfied and I would highly recommend them.

I went with Clayton because my grandma had done investments with them and she said that they were a good company. I was deciding between them and Oakwood Homes and when I researched and looked into them in person, they also carried Oakwood Homes. They were also closer than Oakwood. My only dissatisfaction was when we were buying the property for Clayton Homes. We were recommended to somebody for a Realtor but the Realtor was not knowledgeable about how to handle buying the kind of property that we were trying to do for Clayton Homes. It caused me to lose $500. I would recommend that someone going into Clayton Homes be knowledgeable. I wouldn't trust Clayton to give me a recommended Realtor after what happened. I'd wanna make sure I had my own going into it.
I also have a comment as far as stuff getting done. We're a military family and we didn't have time. We were living on a couch because it took them almost a month longer to complete the house than expected. If we had time, I would not have closed on the house until the grade was completed. We purchased the house in April and within the first two weeks of us we lived here, we noticed that the foundation for the house didn't really have a grade. It slopes down six inches away from the house in the course of 10 feet. So with the rain we've gotten, the whole front of the house has flooded really bad.
I've taken pictures and sent it to Chris, and they keep calling to say that they're acknowledging it but I haven't seen anything happen yet. I understand the weather plays a big part it in but I thought something was gonna happen a month ago. We did have good weather and yet, nothing has been done about it. Other than that, we also wanted to have the shower area customized. Instead of having a bathtub, we just wanted a stand-up shower. But I was a little bit disappointed at how the shower turned out. It wasn't what I was expecting it to be. But it's a shower so I was happy.
Thank you SO much for the detailed feedback, Jacqueline. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. We're definitely going to pass along your feedback to the appropriate parties and use it to better our processes on the front end, especially with the realtor recommendation and grading. We're also going to follow up with Chris about your situation and see what we can do to help. Someone will be in touch soon!

I bought a home from Clayton or an affiliate of theirs back in ’97 in the Charleston area. It was in Walterboro which is a nearby town where I was working. The home buying process was great. They were right on it and everything went perfectly. They had to put the building up 7 feet so they had to coordinate with bricklayers and the people in Charleston County. We had to have a crane put it in and do all that. So, it was a hard build. The rep got it done in a reasonable length of time, there was no extra money needed and everything went smoothly. There were quite a few leaks in the vent on the roof and they didn’t hook up the washing machine drain correctly but they fixed them. Everything else was fine and it was a great experience.

I was very satisfied with Clayton Homes' salesman. He was very, very helpful and excellent. Once we got the trailer, they had to fix the countertop because it was leaning towards the back, they had to fix a couple of beams going across the living room and they had to put blinds on the sliding glass door. In the hallway, they had to fix a piece of panel that they had a hole in. I was satisfied with all that. I was living in Iowa when my husband died and I was looking for home builders in Missouri. I have seen one by St. Louis but when I talked to them, they said that it was gonna cost a fortune to move. So when I came down right around Thanksgiving, I asked my son if there was some place around there that we could go look at and he said that the Clayton Homes over in Neosho had a good reputation. We drove over there that day and the homes were so nice. The first one I walked into was the one I wanted and I talked to the people at Clayton and told them that I wanted to make a down payment. But then I had to sell my house in Iowa, and they said that they would do everything to work with me. And they truly did.
The people at Clayton kept in touch with me when I was in Iowa and when I told them I was coming in the spring, they got me the house. Rusty and his crew would call and ask if I have a problem. Then any time that I had a problem, I would call over to Clayton and the people would talk to me even about stuff that wasn't with the home, like with the water filter. I've never lived in the country and they were so good they explained to me how it works. When I had some trouble with the furnace, they called two different people and told them that they needed to get it fixed right away because I'm elderly. Also, that they didn't want me sitting here without having everything working. Anything that I have a problem with, Jonathan would come over and get it fixed right away. He would even go the extra mile. They did super nice in making sure things were done right and I was very impressed with that.
I went with a better Clayton home that was taped and the quality is very nice too. It's like waking up and thinking I'm in a hotel. I love the set-up of it and it's perfect for me. Everyone that walks in it would go, "Wow." They couldn't believe how well it was set up. A couple of people even said that they would consider going with one. We call it a modular home because it's classy.
Meg, you have us saying, "Wow!" We loved reading your review! It's so great to know that you're so happy with your home and that your home buying process was so great! Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know. Congratulations on your new home!

I was interested in getting a trailer and I went through Clayton Homes’ dealership. I liked the higher ceiling and the transom windows in the living room of the house. Their service was also great. They took care of any kind of problem that I had almost right away. We bought a long trailer and when they moved one end of it, four rooms had to be completely re-sheetrock because it was twisted so much. They also lined up their air conditioning right through the middle of the room instead of up against the windows. In the summertime, the air conditioner works great. We didn’t have to turn it up or turn it down. But in the winter, it’s not that way. It's supposed to be energy efficient. The windows allow cold air to come in so I will get curtains because of it.
The other thing that we didn’t like about was the trim that they used around the doors and the windows in this trailer. I’ve got two, three pieces of trims that have already come off completely. They come loose from the nail heads that they've got in there. I’m not sure why, but they do. That’s gonna have to be replaced. After a while they just kinda buck up and come out. Nevertheless, I would recommend Clayton Homes but I would also let people know what the problems were.
We appreciate your positive review and your detailed feedback, Olivia! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your buying experience and also about the issues you're experiencing with the house. My husband and I recently purchased a home from Clayton Homes (aka SE Homes, aka CMH Homes, Inc.), and have had a poor to fair experience with customer service, product quality, and resolution/repairs. I would not recommend purchasing a Clayton Home at all. We ordered our new Abigail model home in June 2018. It was delivered in August 2018. To date (December 4, 2018) there are MULTIPLE issues that were present at delivery that have not been addressed. Here is a detailed account of our experience so that hopefully, another customer can avoid this headache all together.
Customer service: Let me first say that everyone at the dealership has been very nice and accommodating. However, there is a point at which when someone tells you that you will receive something the next week, or that they can get something done by a deadline, and fails to deliver again and again and again, nice morphs into patronizing. The overwhelming theme of our experience with the staff is that they readily tell the customer what they want to hear, rather than facts. This leads to a customer service experience in which the dealership over-promises and under-delivers. And unfortunately, that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Poor quality materials and workmanship: When we toured the model home, one of the big features were beautiful barn doors in the master bathroom. When our home was delivered, we immediately noticed that the doors we received were not real wood at all. They were particle board with a cheap wood pattern overlay glued over them. The doors were ultimately replaced with the doors from the model home that we toured (our understanding is that the doors we received were actually pulled from the model that we viewed). One of the particle board doors was disposed of in a burn pile at our home (with our permission), and we noticed that as soon as the moisture from outside hit it, the cheap overlay bubbled and peeled. These particle board doors are now the standard in the Abigail home, and they are in a bathroom, where they will be constantly exposed to moisture.
I use this as an example, because although my doors were replaced, we toured a home with a much better product, were quoted a price for the home based on that product, and we received a far inferior product to what we originally paid for. It was only after several follow ups and complaints that we were able to get the doors that we originally paid for.
Poor communication and purchasing process: The ordering process is frankly a bit of a joke. Part of the order process is to sign off on all of your modifications for your home, but the details of the order form leave a LOT to the imagination. Ultimately, you have to rely on the communications between the factory and dealership salesperson, and hope for the best. One example is that the exterior of our home was to be a light color, with a darker insert. The order form simply states the color and any upcharge – there is nowhere that you sign off on where those colors were to be placed, and when we received our home and they were inversed (dark with light instead of light with dark), we had NO RECOURSE whatsoever, since that is what was on the order form.
Flagrantly usury verbiage in an attempt to remedy company errors: In addition to the order form itself, there is a lot of back and forth between the dealership and factory before you actually place your order. We had discussed one countertop the first day we were at the dealership, and chose a different countertop. The countertop on our order form is not what we received. (Who even signed off on the specs at the factory inspection prior to delivery, because they’re clearly not doing their job?).
We agreed to come up with a settlement agreement, in which Clayton Homes offered us only a portion of what it would actually cost to replace the countertops. The agreement we were sent to sign and actually get the check included the verbiage “Buyer(s), jointly and severally, do hereby forever release, discharge, and agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless [Clayton Homes] from any and all claims, liability, damages, and expenses whatsoever, whether now existing or hereafter arising.”
We had an attorney review this document and he agreed that this verbiage released Clayton Homes from ANY repair, not just related to the countertops. Clayton was unwilling to redline this agreement and to date, we have yet to receive any compensation from this company for THEIR error. Our home is yet to be complete: As of the date of this writing the following issues persist at our new home.
We have not received the deep cabinet drawers for our home. The home was delivered incomplete, and for months we have been told that the 13 missing cabinet drawers would arrive “Next week” and “We’ll get it taken care of”. Our lighting upgrade is nonexistent/inoperable. We paid a premium to have additional lights installed on the exterior of the home at each entry. The lighting for the front entry was not installed at all. The additional lighting at the rear door was installed, but is inoperable (does not function). (Again, someone signed off that the entire electrical system was tested before the house was shipped.)
Our skirting has yet to be installed. And the issues with our kitchen island. We paid $1,600 to have the island widened to the size of the countertop instead of having a seating ledge, and to add an additional bank of cabinets on that side. The cabinets were added, but not extended like they were supposed to be, making them dysfunctional to use. Also, the cabinets installed did not match the opposite side as requested (there are no drawers). In addition, several cabinet bodies were “unfinished” leaving a matte appearance next to a glossy cabinet. This gives the appearance that the cabinets are two different colors of black.
Clayton Homes sent a representative from the factory to view the issues first hand, and that representative brushed off the complaints stating that “it’s not that bad”. Clayton homes offered us $350 in compensation for their errors on the island, or they would replace it. The compensation should be calculated as how much it would cost to get this fixed to specifications not what Clayton deems their shortage of performance is.
We opted to have the island repaired to specific performance, and the replacement cabinets that arrived had the same issues with some of the surfaces being unfinished, and were the same incorrect depth. We also waited over 3 months for this repair because we were told a team from the Alabama plant would be sent to make the repairs. Only one person showed up with the cabinets, he was from Fort Worth, and he had no helper with him. My husband had to help him carry everything, dismantle everything, etc. We are not here to be Clayton Homes’ free labor for repair orders. To date, this issue has not been resolved, and we are paying interest and mortgage payments on a home that is incomplete. Please save yourself the headache, and avoid purchasing a Clayton Home.
Wendy, we are so sorry to hear about your experience. We will follow up with you shortly.

I originally ordered a home from another dealer who said they could get it and then after six months and telling me all sorts of lies, I found out they can't get it. I went back to Clayton Homes in Walton, Kentucky, fell in love with a house and went with some higher upgrade packages than what they have on the lot. I had to redo all my bank financing and once I got the go for the financing, we had the first closing with the bank on my loan one week, and a week later, I was touching the home at Walton, Kentucky, which was ordered about two weeks earlier. They had spots reserved, and they had a spot open to build a home when they didn't have any deals going on. They went ahead and jumped mine in before I was able to get everything finalized. I was in a 100-year-old old farmhouse with baseboard electric heaters and there's a lot of difference with my new home, including seeing a lot of savings on my bills. So far, everything's good.

I liked the price of Clayton Homes compared to building a stick house and I was hoping they were better than they used to be. The house seems to be solid and nice. I asked for certain things when I purchased the home, but it went short. It was no big deal, though. I wanted a baseboard and I wanted crown-molded. They let me have the material for a good price. They were gonna put it in, but they made a deal with me for me to do it, so I put that in myself. I used to work on mobile homes, but my biggest disappointment is the mice have found their way inside the house.
Mice came into the house when the weather got cold and I caught about eight mice in about seven days. It means they got access somewhere. I had it under the pen when we bought the house and I asked if there will be a problem with rodents getting in. The salesperson said no and that the house is tight and the mice can’t get in. However, they got in by the block, somehow or another, and they found their way into the home, somehow or another. Clayton must not be putting any metal around the pipe holes where they are getting in somehow.
I liked the salesperson that I dealt with, Chassidy. Clayton tried to do me good, although they might have burnt me on price. However, I wasn’t too happy talking with the service guy they put on to supposedly fix my home. There was a problem with my bathroom sink, with the little plunger that goes up and down in there. I was also asking him how to get the grid out of the shower. My home shower in another house has a screw down in it. I tried to turn the one in the new home a bit, but it wasn’t turning and I wanted to take it out, so I could put something in to clean my drain out and make the water flow better out. But I don’t see how to get it out without turning it up, and that was something I wanted him to fix. However, he was just trying to tell me there is something to buy that runs down there to clean the drains out and he just did not want to fool with it.
I made a bad choice because Clayton Homes got their own contractors. I got an outside contractor to put my septic system in and he said that the county in Lincoln County only let it go 8 inches in the ground. I had the home set at least four blocks high because I wanted a room to get underneath to it in case I needed to do some work later on. I finally could put the septic system in. But in this county, it shouldn’t be at least five blocks high and I wish my home was one block higher because of the shallowness of the way they put the septic tank in. It made a big hump in the backyard.
We like the home, but it really disappointed me that mice were able to get in the house. If I had to do it over with again, I would’ve looked harder to have somebody build me a stick house. I don’t like holes where rodents and snakes can get in, neither does my wife. I’ve also got one place where the floor squeaks badly. I wanted to get them to take that out and I’d like the drain fixed in the master bath. I wish there was some way that I could get something done about mice being able to get in.
There needs to be a screen or something put up somehow some way. I’m not happy. I got holes that rodents can get in, but as far as the drywall work, the guy has done well. The people that worked here were nice. I was very satisfied with the speed that they had done things -- setting it up and getting it -- because when they brought it in here, I didn't even think they could bring it in here, but they did. The contractors that they hired here did better than the contractors I hired.
Benny, we are sorry to hear about the situation you're having with your house and the rodents. We are going to look into your situation and then someone will be in touch with you! Thank you for the feedback.

I had seen a commercial about Clayton Homes trading old ones for money off a new one so we went down there. We went to a different Clayton Homes in Albertville, and the guy there was awful and very rude. We went to Tara in Athens, and we looked at a ton of different homes trying to get one in our budget and get one where we didn’t have such a high down payment. Tara was fantastic on helping us on what we needed as it came to our down payment or our monthly payment. It took us two months to decide on one and get the money to get it. But after we had finally found one in our payment, it was easy and smooth sailing from there on the buying process.
We had originally picked a different one, and we were gonna close on it. It was the one that we were just settling with because we really wanted to own something instead of renting. Then a week before we were gonna close on the other one, Tara called me and said that she got a new one on the lot that was about the same price as the other one, but it was a completely different layout. She asked me if I wanted to see pictures of it, and she sent them to me. They didn’t have that one so she put our names on it as soon as it came on the lot. We changed everything over and closed on the one we have now instead of the other one, and we love the home.
We had a little rockiness with the contractors on getting the land and stuff ready, which I know weather conditions put everything behind for them. They have people ahead of us, but that took us forever and it was frustrating. But I have sent many people to see Tara, and they were talking about wanting to get a new home.
We appreciate your detailed feedback, Tesia! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your experience. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed working with Tara and that she helped you get the exact home you wanted. The weather can definitely add some difficulty to getting the land prepped and the home setup, so we appreciate your patience! Thank you for your referrals as well! Congratulations on your new home!

Two of the properties of Clayton were located not too far from where I was raised and born. And then I saw the sign there on 84 that says purchase some land in order to get a three-bedroom, single rise so that’s what I did. I put my property up to get this trailer here. Everybody at Clayton was understanding. They were there for me whenever I needed to get this home here in these two acres. Everything was customized already, like the furnitures. We're well satisfied with the home and the way it’s designed. Everything was suitable. The quality of my home, so far, is 100%. When I was purchasing my home everything was on time and l truly liked that.

Clayton Homes is at work around our country and I bought a home from them. Their consultants knew what they were talking about but the homes had some issues. I had a water leak in it and there were some parts that had to be replaced. But Clayton Homes was able to take care of those. I just called and they came, looked at the issues and ordered the parts. Then they came back and put them on.
Thank you for your feedback, James! We're glad to hear that the buying process went well for you and that your repairs got taken care of!

Clayton Homes had some of the best deals and their homes were built a lot better than any other place that we had been to. The home consultants we worked with were awesome. Their names are Abby and Bert and they both helped me through the whole process. While everything is pretty decent since we've moved in, we've had a few things that popped up and they're supposed to be sending someone out to look at our kitchen island. Cause when they moved the trailer to our property, the people that set it up cut the floor and had messed up some of the piping that's in the island to the sink. The pipe busted after they had replaced it and so it got a little bit of water damage. It's not Clayton Homes' fault though. That's from the contractor and they're no longer with them. Other than that, Clayton Homes is awesome. I would recommend them to anybody.
Thank you so much for your feedback, Jamie! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed working with Abby and Bert! We'll be sure to let their team know you were speaking so highly of them. We're also going to follow up on some of the repair issues you're still having and someone will be in touch.

My fiancé’s father told us about Clayton Homes 'cause they were gonna buy a house from there. They were the first company that stuck out to us. Furthermore, we had a really good sales rep who was really straightforward about things. He sat down and talked to us about things in detail. I didn’t feel pressured in anything. We told him what we wanted and he made it work. Since getting our home, we've really liked it a lot. I definitely recommend Clayton Homes. I had a really good experience with the company.

Clayton Homes had what I liked and they had a good deal. Moreover, I couldn't want their staff and the purchasing process to go any better. I don't know whatever you do when you're buying a trailer. I've never been to anything like it before. But their staff tried to explain everything that was about the trailer. Overall, the quality of the home good, but I've got a problem. My son has been handling all of this stuff and he has seen wood molding that's come loose, and I haven't been able to get him to get a hold of anybody over there yet. But the Clayton Homes team has been nice. One of the guys even sent me a piece of gift certificate. You don't find that from any businesses anymore. That was a shocker. It's not no big thing. He took money out of his pocket to show appreciation. If you would go to Clayton, I don't think you would wanna go anywhere else.

He was friendly, listened to everything we needed, had really good knowledge on the home buying process, and helped us find something we could get finance for.

The home buying process at Clayton Homes was very satisfying. They helped where I needed help at and it didn’t take long to get everything done. The application process was very easy. I just filled the application out and went along. The guy called me, and he went through the little things that he needed to go through, and set it all in.
The home consultant was also very nice. She was willing to help and things went on smoothly. She never got an attitude about anything I asked. She was just very helpful and anything I needed, she was there and helped me do it. The process was very well explained. She didn’t talk to me like I was dumb. She laid it out there to where you can understand what she was talking about. She just took into consideration everything, like the questions I had. She said, “Let me get back with you on it.” And then the next day, she got back with me and said, “This is what I think will work best,” or, “How about we go about this this way or that way,” and it just worked out perfect.
You need to go see Clayton Homes, because they’re the best to work with. They weren’t like total buttheads like the other companies I tried to go through. The other dealers just wanted to keep giving me the runaround. As soon as I went to Clayton, Lisa said, “Hey, how can I help you?” And I told her what I was looking for, what type of price range, and she said, “Hey, I’m the one for you,” and we just started working together. She never gave up on me.

Anytime I walked in Clayton's door, I had the best service. I went down to other companies, but I couldn’t even get anybody to help me. They wouldn't even let me look. I said I was going back to Clayton and talk to somebody there. Their personnel was so much better than anywhere I've ever been. Anytime I've called, the rep I dealt with knew who I was and where we stood on everything. Some of the other guys knew me by name and I've never even dealt with them.
We customized the cupboard on the cabinet, the countertop, the walls and the curtains. One of the curtain colors we chose wasn’t there and the lady I was dealing with took care of those. She put something in that we would like and would go with everything. She did a fine job on that. We also did the vinyl all throughout the house. The overall quality of the home is decent. I still have a few things that I'm waiting on for somebody to take care of, but otherwise, I'm well satisfied with it. In fact, I have sent several friends down to talk with Clayton.

My fiancée's cousin has a trailer park in Illinois and he knows about manufactured homes. We were gonna get us a place and he said, "You can't go wrong with Clayton Homes." We could spend $400,000 on a house that's gonna sit there in equity or we can buy a neat, brand new home as we have now and use that equity at our age to travel and do stuff because I'm 74 and my fiancée is 69. The Clayton rep, Bobby, worked with us mostly. If we had any problems, he made sure it was corrected and we're very happy. The overall quality of the home is good and we got what we paid for. There are a couple of things here and there but we're happy with it. We've been recommending Clayton to people we know. We had a cousin come by and spent the night with us. My husband and I were looking for a home. We would always go to Tilley's for some reason, but we saw Clayton's sign and went there ourselves. We just wanted to see what they had that was different. We looked at quite a few places, but we kept going back to Clayton. It was more of the customer service that we got from them. They were very friendly and professional. In the other lot we went to, sometimes they wouldn't acknowledge us until a little bit later. But as soon as we go into Clayton, they'd acknowledge us right then. They would ask if we needed something to drink and we would have coffee. They didn't treat us like we couldn't afford anything on their lot. We built up a friendship over time and they would ask us why don't we look. We'd say to give us the keys we'd go look. Then we'd come back in and they'd ask what we saw. We did this for a while.
We kept going back to Clayton for a couple of years until we finally got to the point where we knew we had to move from the bad area we were in. The Clayton home that we purchased looks more like a home instead of a mobile home. When I saw it and walked up in there, there was no need to look at another one. I liked the quality of the home. The closets in the room should be a little bit bigger though. Aside from the master bedroom, the other bedrooms seem to be small and the carpet space is limited. But overall, I love the space and the living room. We had a very good experience with Clayton Homes

I'm an adjuster and I've handled home claims in the past. My wife and I lived in a children's home for 18 years, and we had an apartment there where she worked. Then she retired and we had to move, so we decided it was time to purchase a new home. With Clayton, there were no problems in the process. We just needed to figure out where the financing was gonna go. We ordered our home on the second week of December and there was a bit of backlog in Albuquerque. Then we finally got it in and the weather cleared. They started assembling the home and we got to customize it. In one bedroom, the closet was tucked in behind the laundry room. So we put the closet in the third bedroom to match the closet in the little bedroom so we could have more feet of laundry room. We also wanted to make the dining room bigger to put some furniture in so we split two windows and put a door in between them. Then we locked the back from the dining room.
I had pretty good interactions with the salesman and Terrence, the manager. I already met Terrence years ago and this time he let me borrow his template so that I could put the knobs on the cabinet doors. My wife wanted to pick out her own knobs, so she left me with the task to do all those holes and I used Terrence's template so I could get them all the same. Terrence was extremely knowledgeable of how the homes are built, the features and the energy savings. I was pretty impressed with his work ethic and how and what he did. The home buying process with Clayton was fine overall, and my bills have been pretty good. Last month when we weren’t home as much, our electric bill was $107 and for this month, it's $160.
We appreciate the detailed feedback, Leigh! We're so glad to know that you're happy with your home and that you were able to customize it to be exactly what you want! Terrence is a valued team member, and we'll be sure to pass along your praises of him! Congratulations on your new home!

We got recommended to Clayton then we checked out different websites and what we could do on how we could customize our home. In the end, we went with Clayton Homes for the great price and affordability. My wife and I purchased a house from them about six months ago or so and we had a great experience with the company. We'd recommend it to other people, especially for how fast and reliable they were. We'd also recommend them for the quality of the product which came at a very reasonable price.
Clayton was very timely and organized. Initially, they told us about how they get their customers in the homes very quickly and easily after they find land and/or a lender. And once we got approved for our loan, we were in our home and decorating it. The rep at Clayton who assisted us was very good and professional, too. She helped us through the whole process and she had great knowledge. The store manager who was coming to our site every once in a while was good as well.
I love the quality of our home but whenever you build one, there are always little things here and there that you miss. Clayton had a site contractor come out who said that there were some staples that needed to be redone and that there was a board that was a little crooked. They were stuff that we didn't even know but they came out and double-checked. Then, a different contractor came out and fixed those things within weeks, which was really good. And they have a high-quality with their product and with fixing anything that needed to be fixed within my one year guarantee. All in all, I'm very satisfied with Clayton.
We're so glad to hear how satisfied you are, Garrett! Thank you so much for taking the time to give us such detailed feedback regarding your home and your home buying experience. It's so nice to know that you'd recommend us! Congratulations on your new home!

My previous home was destroyed in a hail storm. I found Clayton Homes on the internet and it took about five months before I got my new home from them. That was partly because I was out of town and it took about 16 weeks to build a home for construction. There were a couple of customization things I did to the home and they were able to take care of that. In the master bedroom, I didn't want the overall big old full tub and I wanted a big walk-in shower. The factory was able to accommodate me with something and I had a really good relationship with the reps at Clayton Homes in Wichita. They worked well with me. Also, I'm sure my new home is a lot more energy efficient than my previous mobile home.
But I was a little disappointed with getting somebody out in getting warranty work done. I live out quite a ways away from which tower I purchased the home which was built down in Bonham, Texas. Plus, the factory service representative wanted to do what he damn well pleased and expected me to accept his shoddy work. But I did not accept that at all and it took a couple of tries before the work was done to my satisfaction. Overall, I'm happy with my home but as far as its construction, there were things that needed to be changed in the factory.
Thank you so much for your feedback, Mark. It's very important for us to get this type of information from our customers so that we can work with our Home Building Facilities to better their processes. We'll be reviewing your feedback with our Bonham facility and with our Wichita location. Thank you again, and thank you for choosing Clayton!

I went out to Clayton Homes and told them I wanted to look at the townhouse. I liked the house that they got me set up in and bought it. The sales manager helped me decide whether to finance with a bank or to finance with one of their finance groups. The Clayton people were very nice and very knowledgeable. I already knew what I wanted when I went out there and I already knew what needed to be done to get a piece of property ready for that a couple of times. I already had that information, so they didn’t have to explain to me very much. They were very helpful as far as the process and how long it would take to be built and delivered. The price to build them only turned up on one part of the floor plan. That was complained and Clayton Homes made that right with me. They came out and put the home together and did an awesome job. It looked like a custom home when I started to move in.
I have had some issues with it since I've been living with it, but they’ve been fixed and repaired within a good time frame. I've also recommended them to plenty of different people. I've had lots of people come and look at my home, and people would email me wanting me to send them pictures. It was really great and the Clayton in Tulsa was really good to work with.
That's fabulous, Lylah! We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us! We're happy to know that your home buying process went so smoothly and that your follow up service all got taken care of in a timely manner.
