The home buying process with Clayton sounded very easy but when it came down to it, it turned out to be a huge pain in the butt. They could have handled their communication differently. Also, I'm six months in and I'm having a lot of problems with the home already. I’ve got one cabinet door that came off in my hand and it’s sitting in between my washer and dryer. And they’re gonna have to completely change all my countertops out. All the molding is coming off. I’ve had 10 different people come into my house to fix things. They came in with a tube of caulk and that was how they fixed things. I would not recommend Clayton Homes to anyone. It's shoddy, shabby, and cheap-made.

My daughter and my mom both purchased from Clayton Kodak. But Clayton Strawberry Plains gave us a better price. Joseph, the salesman, was great. He was super nice. We were his first sale. However, Greg, the manager of that home store, flipped out on me, and then he refused to speak to me again. The first couple of months that we started all this, he called me all the time. He was out at the property all the time. He was like overseeing everything.
And then that day, I called him and said, I didn’t know who to contact about the foundation, there's a problem. And it was early in the morning and it was like I caught him having a bad morning. I was like, I didn’t even know. I was in shock so I just shut up. And then I was listening to him and I asked him twice, “Why are you yelling at me?” And then a few seconds later, I said, “I cannot believe you’re yelling at me like this.” And that’s when I hung up, and I haven’t heard from him since.
I bought the house and only financed the house, and I paid for a lot of other things in cash, like the foundation, the waterline. And the foundation is cracked all over the place, and he didn’t wanna hear it. He didn’t wanna have anything to do with it. But we used his contractor and I didn’t have any other way of contacting the contractor. And, that was the day he got real nasty with me. I had to hang up on him because there was no talking to him. And then after that, I only dealt with Tony. Tony is very short with me. Tony has much done everything I’ve asked. He did send the foundation guy back out to fix the work, but there are still cracks and hairline cracks.
When Tony took over from Greg, Tony came into the house, it was the day that we were supposed to be moving in, and he said, “If I take your picture, will you give us a good review?” I said, “I can give you a good review and I can give Joseph a good review, but I cannot and will not give Greg a good review.” He said, “If you don’t give Greg a good review, my guys don’t get their incentives. We just get little stuff, like lunches and dinners.” And he said, “If you don’t, we won’t get it. If you can’t give me a good review, I can’t post your picture.” I said, “Okay, then don’t post my picture.” And they didn’t. So, nobody has contacted me at all about how Greg treated me. I’ve never had anybody speak to me that way. He’s the head guy there. Nobody else is above him there. So, there’s nothing they can do. He gets away with it.
I love the house. I saw a few things that I need to have fixed, but I’d try to wait until I get a few things together. I’m happy with the house. The salesman and Tony were great. They fixed a leak under the house. Tony has had the foundation guy come out twice now to fix the cracks. But dealing with Greg and having to deal with Strawberry Plains again, I’d probably never go back to Strawberry Plains.

Clayton Homes is located on Route 17 and we drive by there all the time. We’ve looked over there seven times in the past five years, while trying to figure out if we wanted to do this or not, and last year was when we decided to do it. Our deciding factor was the timeframe. Sometimes it’s easier or faster to get a home put on your property instead of having it built. Another reason is wanting to have a new home and not something that’s somebody’s been already in. At first, the home buying process at Clayton was really good. We got to sit down with the salesperson. She went through everything pretty well. It was the process after the sale portion of it, we were trying to wait for the trailer to get set-up in an amount of time. Other than that, everything else was pretty good.

I have had a couple of issues. We moved in our home 2 years ago. Our AC Started freezing up after being here for 6 months. (Still under warranty). The AC guy came out and recharged the brand new system and left. I asked, if it needed recharged, that means it is leaking right? Needless to say, I have been trying to get someone to repair my system since then. It is now 4/3/20 and it is not working. I had a repair company take a look and he assessed that a valve in the unit was overheated and damaged in the install. (I have this documented.) I have been trying to get this fixed along with the block underpinning since we moved in. Guess what, I cannot get anyone to do what they say they are going to do. Not even return my call after they tell me they are going to take care of it and I never hear back.

The whole process of buying at Clayton Homes ended up taking five months. The financial end of it was very slow. It took the people from Clayton so long to pull my credit. They called me back and said that they were gonna have to pull it again because they did run out. But as far as the Clayton salespeople down there, they were very nice and very knowledgeable. The folks I got to work with did a very good job. I love the quality of it. But I had a sink that was in there the other day. I went and I started to fall backward, so I grabbed the sink and the sink came out. It was not cemented in. So, I’m finding little things like that. I had to go repair that myself ‘cause I don't know if during this COVID if they’ll send anybody out or not.

We've had our home for five months now, but the home buying process wasn't very good. They're still not done fixing our house yet either. When they brought it out, the linoleum floors had air pockets all over them, so they came out and replaced them. They made it worse than it was before though. Now, they've been trying to avoid coming back and doing it again. They said they can't get ahold of the contractor that did it.

Through other people, I came to know of Clayton Homes. When I happened to be looking for some property, I had also seen stuff about them on the side of the road. The home that I was looking at was the one that I really wanted that’s why I went ahead with the company. Also, the homes were a lot better made than before.
During the buying process, we went back and forth on a lot of different things. They would say I could get this and this and all of that. I said, “Okay. We change this, we change that.” But they don’t tell you how much the setup fee is until you go through the papers to buy the home and it’s a sticker price. When you’re looking at how much it was and you add another 27,000 on top of that, you’re like, “You got to be kidding,” because you’re not looking for that.
There was another Clayton Homes in Johnson City. It was said those homes had the sale price of how much their homes were with the setup fee in it, so you automatically knew how much you were paying for the home and setting it up. The other ones did not though. It had just the price of how much the home was gonna be.
I was able to customize some things in my home. But I was very disappointed in one. I wanted the beam down in the center where the two halves meet. When the guys came out to make sure everything was put up together, I told them they forgot the beam. I told them that there was supposed to be a beam down the merge line. But no one told them about that. They called the manufacturer and talked to the engineer. The engineer said that they didn't put the beam in there because they didn’t feel that that would be a good thing to do.
I had the fireplace in. I was really surprised that they really didn’t know a whole lot about that. I know I had the guys to come out and they had to do the conversion, but it took me a little bit to figure things out. We got that taken care of though. I didn’t get the beam and they reimbursed me for that. They said they gave it a little extra and I thanked them.
They also took out the big old tub and there was a little shower off to the side where I had the big tub in. I just got myself a big shower. I told them I wanted a vanity set so I put all my makeup and all of that stuff there. I wanted a vanity that comes with drawers and usually with a mirror. I took pictures. I told the guys that it was like a folding table because I really wanted one. But when it came, I asked where the drawers and the chair were. I couldn't get them to do those and they told me that was what I ordered. But I didn't think so. That thing couldn’t have cost $250 or more. But that was what I got. They said to go to Walmart and get the ones with three plastic drawers that roll and I can put my stuff there.
I told the guy that goes to the selling and gets all the permission stuff, “How would your wife like it?” He just had got married. I had to get all of the crap from one side of the bathroom, put it on the other side then turn around and have to put it back on the other side where I got it from. I told him his wife wouldn’t like it. But that was what I gotta do. Overall, I love my home but I’m not completely not satisfied.

We changed the locations of the air vents and we put hardwood or vinyl throughout the whole home instead of carpet anywhere. So far, the quality has held up pretty good.

We've bought two homes from Clayton Homes before. We liked the way they looked from the outside. Working with them was great. The rep answered all of our questions and she took time. And this home, we bought our retirement home, so I told her everything that I wanted in a home and she found it for me. Within two weeks, we had our house. I'm very happy with it. We just had a few minor things that they had to come out and readjust, from bringing the houses in, some stuff shifted, the doors adjusted, but nothing major at all. Overall, it was a very good experience.

Will was great. He helped us through everything and made sure we had everything we needed. We were very happy with him. Once my credit finally got approved, the process took a couple months. My credit wasn’t very good, so they had to work with it, and they helped me out a whole lot. I'm satisfied. Our house was originally a two-story house and there were several things that we did. We brought it down to a one-story, took out the staircase, made my daughter’s bedroom bigger and added a closet. It’s not a stick-built house. There are some parts I feel like the quality could have been a little better, but we’re very happy with the house. There are contractors still coming and they get back to me very quickly. Everything worked out well. We had also bought a Clayton home before and we’ve recommended somebody who followed up with them too.

Clayton Homes switched managers three or four times and none of them communicated with each other, so none of them communicated with us. We didn’t even know that the person we were working with didn’t work there anymore and none of the things that we had agreed with her was honored because the next guy pretty much said that it was not his problem and he didn't know what to tell us. We then dealt with someone who treated us like crap and not a priority and after a while, he just didn't answer my emails and left us high and dry. Then he apparently left the company also and nobody told us. The current one is Tracy. I was irritated with her too at first because she didn’t even send us an email to let us know that she would be our new manager.
I don’t know how many times we had to contact Clayton to come and fix something. They left our house sitting out there in the middle of the field for so long that it got mold all over it, and then it took them forever to come and fix it. We still have mold because they've just painted some parts over and said that it's dry enough. None of the doors shut because it’s so crooked. Apparently, Tracy is just trying to blame it on Skyline, but they’re not the ones that put it together on our property. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I have emails of them basically ignoring us and putting the faults on other people and not taking their responsibility for anything. I was not impressed and I would not recommend Clayton Homes to anybody.

Clayton Homes in Carson City has a really bad reputation and I was told that before I ever bought the home. I got one of their lot models, Champion, which was the ultimate home. They'd agree with me on a price and they back up to see how far they could push and what they could get. I bought it for 150,000, and then they wanted 155,000. I went ahead and did that because my wife really wanted it or I would not have done it. Now she's very ill and she may never get to see our home finished. That's one of the bad things. Besides that, they got their man out there already putting the foundation down. They figured they could put the screws to me because of that. The guy that came out worked hard but he did very sloppy work. Clayton said that they would fix everything. They sold a lot of mobile homes all of a sudden, and Mike the contractor, told me that they would do my home first.
Some of the people that worked with them before told me that we couldn't trust them. They knew about this Champion home and said that it's beautiful if we could get Clayton to move it in one piece, where they won't tear it up. Well, they tore it up. From the very beginning, they cut the floor. It was all this hardwood-look home all the way through the house, except for the two bathrooms and the laundry room. They told me it was that kind, but it was a composition floor. Then they went down through the middle of it and cut right down to the seam in the center of the mobile home. It was too late to say no after they cut it.
I got a call from two or three different people, they said they would try to remedy it. One contractor said that they'd have to completely abandon one room with the hardwood floor in it. Then Champion Homes came out and looked at it and it's already been there nearly six months. The damage was between $3,000 and $12,000. The walls and the outside siding were busted, and this is a real high-quality home. They called their boss and said that it looked bad and it also made them look bad. The boss told them to fix everything so they did that, which the contractor and Clayton were supposed to do. The one guy there working for Champion said that instead of paying $700 or $800 to have the floors taken up and put back together, the contractor paid somebody $35 to cut the floor and we were out the cost. So, I'm stuck with fixing the floor and it's not even either. My wife has a lot of trouble walking and it's dangerous for her.
I had another contractor, Claywood Construction, and he said that it would be about $3,000 to $5,000 to take the floor up and try to put it back together. If Clayton would tell where they got this flooring, then he could probably find some. Clayton contractor never gave us an invoice to what it costs or who put it in 'cause I don't think they want me to know that they told this man to cut the floor and then run. The guy that's building the home with Claywood did the work for them because it had to be done right away. He built a garage, 35 feet by the same light as a mobile home, and it looked like one piece of house. He did a good job, he was a good builder. He walked by and looked at the other things then shook his head. He told me that I shouldn't have to put up with this.
Another thing was that Clayton contractor made up the contract and they said they were gonna cut the floor. I told them to take that out there. They were trying to get me to sign everything that I did before and sign away all my contract, 'cause they ain't our warranty or federal warranty for one year. They wanted out of that so they could just walk off and sashay away from the whole situation. I said, "No." I wanted a warranty on it. We re-signed the contract.
Then Mike couldn't get the job done. Clayton kept pulling him off of mine. He worked one day and then worked four days someplace else, and I was paying him money upfront to stay there. He has been lying to me as well. He'd tell me that they would fix it. Then he called me right at the end of last year saying that they would fix everything and that they would have to replace the whole floor, they just needed a good rating from me. I told him that he's been really bad so far. I wanted to see it done first. I won't give him a rating before he finishes it because I don't trust him.
Then after about January the 20th, he sent me a text saying that they would not do anything. Whatever I wanna fix, I fix it. I'm on my own yet I have my home warranty for five years or seven years. When I went in, he said, "You don't want that." I told him that I wanted it. He wouldn't bring the papers out for me to sign, so I called Clayton myself and they said that the company was supposed to do this. I told them the company won't do it. I went back up there and wrestled with Mike again, back and forth. I finally told him that I didn't wanna deal with him anymore. When I got a hold of another Mike, the manager, they sent a deal with the old contractor and said that they were gonna cut the floor. I told him to sign the contract and that I wanted it back and we redid the contract.
The truck came in and they were supposed to bring in the mobile home and put it over the foundation. When the guy came up to the gate, he said that he wouldn't go in. He'd leave it on the side of the road. I told him not to leave it there. He said that he couldn't get in that gate. The gate was like 26 feet wide. He just didn't want to. He told that he won't do it unless I tear the posts out. I did $1,000 worth of damage on my fence taking the posts out. I ran into it with a backhoe and a bucket, picked it up and threw it over to the side. I had to cut everything else.
Then I told him to pull in. That road is hard as rock, but if he gets in no man's land, it's gonna sink down. I told him to come in like this, back in there. He said that he couldn't back far enough. I told him to do it and that I would help him and pull the home over the foundation. He came in and instead of doing what he did, he made a great big wide circle in no man's land, where the road was soft as it could be, and he got the mobile home stuck up to the bottom of the frame for about four weeks before we could get it moving. Then instead of getting the right kind of equipment, they just kamikazed it. It did more damage to it again.
When they pulled it over the foundation, because they didn't have any way to pick the mobile home up high enough, they didn't have a hydraulic lift on the back of the truck, the pipes went down and the guy scraped and tore the bottom of the motor home up with a bolt sticking up in the foundation and so there was damage. When we hooked it up, there were leaks which he didn't even find out.
I had the customer relations call me. They tried to work it but they kept lying. I talked to the other people that formerly worked with them and they said that was Clayton Homes Carson City. Those people never inspected my home because we don't live in an area where it has to be inspected. I had three mobile homes sold for them in Fish Lake Valley. The homebuilders from Pahrump inspect everything just like they do anyplace else, even though we don't have inspections in our county. And because of that, Clayton cut my throat. There's still a federal inspection that they're supposed to do, which has never been done. When they hooked the water up to the home, a lot of the water came into the walls. The contractor should've caught that. Then Champion came back out.
There are still cracks down the ceiling of it. It looks like a Pinto horse because the paint didn't match when they were trying to do it. They told me they were gonna make it look as good as new and they have not kept their word. It looks terrible. I had nothing but trouble with them. I could never recommend them to anybody. I have known other people that bought homes from them that had the same problem.
Hi Jim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We apologize to hear of your wife's health problems. This has undoubtedly caused additional stress on you. With your home being a double wide, it could never have been moved in one piece. The laminate flooring is what we discussed prior to moving the home and the manner it was cut and a transition strip put in was not only spoken about, it was put on the contract. The set up was not part of our contract, therefore the inspections would need to called in by the contractor you hired. We're sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with the paint. The home you purchase was a two year old lot model, and when the home was put back together on your property, the fresh paint will not match the older paint exactly. This is common when lot models are purchased. We are sorry you felt you've had a poor experience, but we have provided everything according to our contract. We wish you nothing but the best in the future.

I would like to start out with I would not recommend them. If I would have to give them any stars would be zero stars out of five. Clayton Homes DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR HOMES WHAT SO EVER!!!! They false advertise an airtight efficient home when their homes are not efficient nor are they airtight. We’ve been dealing with Eric this whole entire time trying to get things fixed between our doors showing light at our side door or back door or window leaking air along with blowing dirt into the home and we were told that that is normal and weary have to learn to live with it. Not to mention that our electric bill is out the roof along with our propane bill and Eric basically told us in order to prevent dirt from coming in the house we had to build a windbreak of either shrubbery or build a wind break. Along with being told Their warranty does not cover cracking walls cocking any cosmetic damages of the house settling.
But to put it in perspective for everyone our neighbors' bills for electricity is under $100 a month. Wow ours is over $300 a month along with going through a tank of propane every month to month and a half. So it’s gotten to the point where we have to hire an outside contractor to come put new windows in a home that is less than nine months old and been getting lived in less than six months. They’re hard to get a hold of or have anybody return phone calls back and when they do they come out and basically make you feel like an idiot and that all this is your fault that it’s happening and they’re not taking any accountability for their poor craftsmanship of their Company. I also put a review with pictures on their Facebook page of the kind of shenanigans they’re trying to pull. It’s at the point that we are ready to take legal actions for failure to complete agreed fixes of the house before moving in.
Update 3/18/2020Mike **, G.M. Clayton Homes of Evans came out to look over our issues along with our realtor we went through to get this home. Mike came out looked at our windows and basically told us there is nothing wrong with our windows and that all the dirt that is building up in our windows is from us opening and closing the window. Which is far from the truth due to the fact it winter/early spring time and it’s cold here. The only time the windows have been opened is when we did our walkthrough with Eric and Mac from Clayton home and just recently when Eric and Mike has came out. Both told us it is normal to have this fine dirt come blowing in your home from around your brand new windows.
We showed mike our power bills and he said that there normal price for the power bills. As I mentioned previously our neighbors that live in the Clayton Homes power bill is under 100 bucks a month. Mike told us that he would suggest us doing some landscaping to get the dirt to die down some which requires water and our water well is an in-house only well so we are unable to use the water to water plants grass trees animals or anything besides what is inside the house. I told mike how are we supposed to do landscaping if our well as a house only well which would require us to haul water to water the landscape. We live out in rural Briggsdale Colorado one a property that was advertised as a horse property that you're not allowed to use water to water your horse/s with.
Mike kept saying this is an airtight and efficient home. Which in any person In their right mind means the windows, doors don’t leak air or let in dirt in to your home. Then he proceeds to open the windows and tell us the vinyl weather stripping needs to be cleaned and vacuumed out on a weekly basis to maintain the dirt from building up and making out windows we don’t open leak. I’m not talk about one or two windows leaking air and letting dirt and dust in. I’m talking every window (All 12) and sliding glass door in our new 2019 built house.
Next was outdoors. Mike told us that the doors on every Clayton home is custom built to fit the home with there not these house are build on an Assembly line and pushed down the line. Nothing is custom built for any of these houses. I called him out on that. He became very aggressive and very defensive towards me and said that he did not say that. Our realtor who is not associated with Clayton homes in any way. Expressed that mike came acrossed very aggressively toward her over the phone through our whole process of buying this home.
To sum up mike's visit. We didn’t not come to an agreement, was told to leave and that Clayton home will not help with the cost of the new windows we are getting put in a less then a year old home. That is going to cost us $30k for. Now we are looking in to having to get someone to come out and make a custom fitting doors for or front and side doors. All in all this is a very poor company to get a house from and they do not stand behind there homes. We will also be contacting the regional office for Clayton homes and speaking with someone from there. There only out to get a quick buck and do the bare minimum in warranty work as possible. Feel free to contact me I have hundreds of photos and videos of how poorly built this home is.
Hi Derrick. We appreciate your patience as we allow the Shelter In Place orders to lapse before additional interaction takes place at your home. Once they do, we are working with your realtor to schedule a home inspection which would include a thermal imaging study. In the interim, these suggestions may be of some benefit . The good news is that nice weather is approaching. The native grasses surrounding your home do not require watering and now is a good time to seed the area around your home and, as the grass reestablishes itself in these areas disturbed during construction, this will help minimize dust levels around your home. Your furnace, a 95% efficient Nortek unit, will help considerably in controlling utility bills for your home. It brings in a percentage of outside air to ensure safe Oxygen levels in your home. It is necessary to keep a filter on your furnace and keeping it clean will help considerably in controlling dust levels within your home and will have a significant impact on the life of your furnace. We thank you again for your patience.

I went to Clayton’s London location and I was told a bunch of stuff that wasn't right. The reps lied to me and drew me out for about two months. They wasted my time. So, I went to the one in Richmond and I got exactly what I wanted. The rep was great and she helped me out a lot. I didn’t want carpet so I can sweep the floor every evening when I get home and I love that I got that. I would have liked to have a bigger trailer but where I put it, that was the biggest one that would go down the road. It was three-tenths of a mile and it took seven hours to move it down the driveway.

The Clayton Homes rep is a good lady. Everything she said was right and she did a lot. She did everything good, but we just had trouble with the service techs. One guy had quit and another guy got fired. We were left waiting for a while. But they have one subcontractor, his name was Jamie, who is good and I trust him. Then the guy that they have right now is pretty good too. But all others were sketchy. They were not somebody who I’d leave in my house by myself.
We had little bumps here and there but Clayton Homes pretty much took care of everything. I'm just waiting to hear back on a couple of more things that have to be taken care of. I kept feeling something sharp on the carpet and it turned out to be a sleeve of staples under it that I had been stepping on. So, I have a hole in my carpet right now. But so far, everything seems to be good with our new home compared to others. I’ll be happy as long as I get my floor fixed 'cause there are still issues.

In the very beginning of buying the home, Clayton Homes said they would put straw and seed my yard however it wasn't and it was a horrible mess. Another issue was that they left the house sitting sideways against my garage for over a week before anybody else came out to put it on the foundation. Back in the fall when it was time to turn the furnace on, I had problems. They sent somebody out to check the furnace and they had to come from Bloomington, Indiana. The person that came to check it didn’t hook up some of the wires on the inside and the outside. That could’ve caused a major fire but that got straightened out. They need somebody to check on the people who put the house in.

Clayton Homes was pretty aggravating for quite some time because it took a little over a year for us to finally get into the home. One was due to the weather, but then there were a lot of things that could've been prevented. We're in now and we're settled though. We started out with Oakwood Homes. So in the midst, they closed our store down and put us with someone else. In two months, nothing happened. We just got put on the back-burner. Then, it took them three times to figure out how to level the spot to put the garage on. It was ridiculous like they had no common sense with the land. That held us up another four weeks because they couldn't get that right. I couldn't believe how it took them that long to figure out how to level a piece of ground and put a garage on it.
They finally got that done too and nothing was really wrong with the house. I didn't pay enough attention to the houses that we looked at on the lot. The cabinets are not being really real wood. The outside of the cabinets are like board stuff, and around the island, it's peeling off already. I was expecting more quality with the cabinets and the sinks. They're squeaking already, the kitchen sink is scarred up and cracking. It's one of those farmhouse sinks and it's around the drain. I was told it was gonna be ceramic and it's plastic.

The rep at Clayton Homes helped me out a whole lot. She went above and beyond. She was very nice and understanding. I was told that I could pick my floor and my cabinets but I had to get something fast. The buying process with Clayton was smooth and my questions and concerns were addressed very well. I looked all over Phoenix and Clayton Homes told me they could get the home to me in my time frame. They also looked like they had the style of home that I was looking for and they weren’t also quite as high-end as some of the other home manufacturers. They did really well. However, the timeframe was a little behind time. But that was more of the workers' fault and everything kinda bunched up on them. They had originally told me we could get in the end of May, or early June, but we weren’t in until August. But the quality of the home is great. They’ve also done everything to help and they’ve taken care of all of my issues. I got the three-bedroom with the den option and I love that. That’s great.

The home came from Clayton but I dealt with the person from Oakwood. The process as far as filling out the application with Oakwood and Vanderbilt and being able to get approved was all fair. It was explained because we even had an attorney come and go over the paperwork and made sure that I understood it and we signed it. I would have negotiated on the price a little bit more for the amount that was deposited. I had to keep the insurance and I didn't find any provider. That made me pay at least $700 a month. If I could change that, I would go back to $500 something a month. Then I had some stuff that was lacking. My countertop wasn’t glued and it started rising and I also had some panels that were not screwed or nailed. But they sent a guy out to complete it and he did a very fair job. Everything is holding up pretty well. I like the floor plan. It's built pretty sturdily and not that cheap board.

I was looking for a house for months and I was treated badly by some people. They were a little bit racist because my wife's not from this country. Clayton had no problem with that. I went down there very first day and at the very first house we walked into, I said that was it but I didn't wanna rush so I said we would check all of the other ones on the lot. Jeremy, the rep, didn't get mad and told me to take my time, look around and get a feel for it. He kept making us laugh the whole time and he didn’t get mad when I wanted him to go back and check the same house six times. We searched through every house and I ended up getting the first one we walked into.
My parents and I parted off the property and put a house up there. I live next to them. I like the color scheme and the little windows at the top in the living room that let in even more light. So I'd only have to use electric half the time because I've got the sunlight coming in. I also like the big bathtub, which is just a regular bathtub, but I'm a big guy and I can fit. Clayton did a great job and they even sent us cookies afterwards. I like them so much.

The quality is just solid. From the moment I was even dealing with the sales lady, I told her when I walked in, it just felt like home. The rep was the best. I loved her. She was very personable and she didn’t hide anything. She didn’t sugarcoat anything, but she was very upfront. Nathan, the home consultant, was a little scatterbrained, a little busy during that time, but he was a big help. He completely answered all the questions and quickly. He was very thorough. Working with Clayton changed our lives for the better and we love our new home. I've been pleased with everything about the house except the plumbing. We’ve had a lot of issues with water leak since we’ve been in the home. But everything else has been fine. They get the service out either usually that day, or the day thereafter. They’re pretty quick.
Amanda, we want to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your home buying experience! We're so happy that Nathan was able to help you find your dream home! Please, don't hesitate to reach out if you ever have any concerns.

My mother and father bought a mobile home from Clayton Homes. I got one as well and it's an older home, but it was in a very good shape. Everyone that I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. Rich, a representative there was very nice. Any time I called, if he wasn't in the office, he returned my call. Whoever answered the phone would tell him that I called, and he would call back immediately as soon as he got back in the office. So, I could always get in contact with him. I didn’t have to wait days. It would just be hours.
Sharon, thank you for the kind words! We are so happy that you found a home that worked for you! Clayton welcomes you to the family! We hope you have a wonderful day!

I purchased my home in May 2018 and have had nothing but issues with it. When I received it there was paper taped over a hole in the countertop. Which are just vinyl adhesive heated onto plywood. Someone was sent out to fix this. Now less than a year later the covering is once again separating from the plywood. The floors had bubbles throughout and when you vacuum the covering lifts up, you can actually see the dirt bouncing around the floor. There are a number of areas that have leaked. During the first year they sent someone out to patch the problem however; it seems there is no end! I did not notice it until after my 1 Year was up but somehow there is a leak beside/around the ac/heat unit which also leaks into the back part of my pantry.
Noted it when I pulled everything out to do my annual deep clean. I also clean behind the stove and fridge every six months or so and found shoddy work on the flooring. The siding looks like crap! They said it’s because of the high winds in Oklahoma. Maybe they shouldn’t sell these homes in windy states! They use cheap materials and expect it to hold up! The wall plugs pull out as they just sit in a hole, there is nothing to secure them. I hung Christmas cards with clear tape and when I took them down the covering came off of the built in bookshelf! I have learned a valuable lesson but it has certainly been a costly one! Please for your own sake avoid the purchase of one of these albatrosses!

This is the first time to live in a trailer and I love the home. But, we had so much trouble with it. We cannot seem to Clayton Homes do anything to it okay. Our front door will not stay open unless we prop it open. And then the backdoor does not fit back in the jamb right. I hope if it is locked that you cannot tell from that because you do not see it from the outside. And then as you go down the hall, the drywall stuff is coming off the walls and falling on the floor. The butt joint, where you put two sheetrocks together, is bad. Then, in the kitchen cabinet, one door propped open and it almost fell clear out. It won't close where I put the silverware in. The same is the case with the drawer in the bathroom. We keep telling them about it and they listen to what we tell them and then they hang up. They do not do anything about it.
Working with the home consultant, nevertheless, started off good. We were satisfied and could not wait to get in. Also, since we have been in it, they said that nobody had ever been in this home before. But twice, where you flush your commode, it wants to overflow on us. And then in the bathroom sink when you run water on it, it wants to flow up and does not want to drain down very well. I do not understand what their problem is, why they cannot come and see for themselves what we have.
Hi Patricia, we really appreciate you voicing your concerns, and we do apologize that this has not been a good experience for you thus far. We are looking into the matter and will follow up. We appreciate your patience!

It went very well with Clayton Homes and they’d be here when I called them. Nora, the salesgirl tried to make sure it was ordered exactly what I wanted. She was very friendly and helpful. Anything that we needed, she tried to figure it out. We have a nice lot and we're in a 55+ mobile home community with people that are very friendly. But I wasn’t very happy with the flooring choices that I had for this home. I'll eventually have to replace it. We had the same floor plan. I did change some windows around ‘cause I didn’t want a window here or there. Besides that, everything was straightforward from the plan.

We’ve had multiple roof leaks in the house and Clayton had to replace the roof. I had to replace the flooring because my drain in the sink wasn't hooked up correctly and it's stuck into the wood. They're gonna have to replace a partition wall where my washer is because it molded from the water and I've only had the house since the end of August. I went to the store in St. Albans but nobody from the manufacturer has been sent to my house yet. There has been two emails sent by Josh, the manager of the St. Albans Clayton Homes, to the manufacturer.
If there's a problem, Randym the rep, is there as quick as he can be. He's a busy man but he does whatever he can. He's been on our roof probably six times already, seven including replacing a lot of the vents. He replaced 15 subsections of the room already. The seal on the bottom of the basin was messed up and it was letting water get through it. He fixed that. He redid the plumbing and some of that screw-in attachment to glue attachment. He did the same thing with the washer. He took one of the panels out to let it dry and cleaned the mold out of it. But the water got into the actual two-by-four at the bottom of the partition wall. It's a two-foot wide partition wall to have a break between the washer and dryer and the back door but it's been quite a bit of hassle.
I would recommend Clayton Homes as far as how they're built, versus the old models to the new models, except for the material in the rough tub. They should let them breathe because that was what was causing all the leaks. But I'm glad the house is not just a piece of paneling and tin with a half-inch of insulation in it that burns down in 11 minutes like it used to be. We’ve had the house six months and I can still call Clayton at any point and they resolve the issue. The store's customer service and ability to get people out to me goes further than the problems we've had.

I received an initial phone call following up with everything several weeks ago and Clayton filed a thing with the customer advocacy group because there were several issues that I had with my home. They requested that I email them pictures and conversations, and I had. We only just moved in on August 1st and within the first few months, there were some major shifting where the doors weren't square with any of the door frames. The door frames weren't square with the wall. I know that with the strips on the walls, they would keep falling down and we couldn't put them back up because they would no longer fit. They weren’t the right length. There were more falling off on one side of the house and then, they really didn't fit. They fit before so, there was something going wrong with the foundation of this house. It's shifting in a way that now the distance between the ceiling and the floor is not the same as it was.
Only a couple of weeks ago, Clayton came in and did some repairs but when the skirting was put on, they didn't cut a hole for our spigot. When they put the house on the foundation itself, it wasn't even square on the slab because we purchased a slab foundation and they didn't even put it on the square. When they put the skirting on, the skirting overhung on the side of the slab foundation causing a gap. Then, we had a mouse infestation. I would have liked to sit down to tell Clayton face-to-face a lot of this stuff, and then get people out to repair it. But the day that we moved in on August 1st was the very first day I started my new job. So, I had no time to come out and wait a day for someone to come and fix it. Then, when they said they were gonna come and fix it, they didn't have any people available that week. So, I had to wait for three weeks for someone to come out.
I have a two-year-old, a three-year-old and a twelve-year-old, and I have two dogs. So, when there were stuff falling down and when there were things that they forgot to put up like the stoppers on the floor, my salesperson wanted to order stoppers on the floor instead of the wall, which was just fine. But when you had someone come in and install it, and then they forgot to install it and they leave loose screws on the floor of my three-year-old's room, I'm not okay with that. They came in and there were no toilet paper rolls installed in the house at all. We asked them to install it but they put it wonky and crooked.
I was tired of sending emails and pictures of things to get fixed and telling them that we couldn’t keep taking days off to have them come and fix it. They're gonna have to work with our schedule. So, they finally came in two weeks ago and fixed the laundry list of stuff that we had. They went underneath the house and said the foundation was fine and that there was nothing wrong with our pylons.
I need a second opinion because there's gotta be something wrong to one side of my house. I'm not a first-time homeowner and I've lived in a regular slab foundation home before. I know what foundation issues look like and this is a foundation issue. I don't know whether it's the slab foundation sinking itself or whether there's something going on with the pylons and the structure of the house is compromised but I called them because they're the only ones that come out. When we tell them to fix something, half the time it's not fixed right. And so, when they came and fixed stuff two weeks ago, I went behind them and made sure that they fixed it correctly, and that they didn't do a crap job.
I purchased a double wide trailer but I wanted to make sure that it was as close to a home that I've had before. We purchased a slab foundation, and we upgraded the home and the amenities. When you walk in and if I covered your eyes, and I had you look and ask if this was a trailer, you wouldn't have guessed except for the paneling on the walls. My kitchen is absolutely gorgeous, and my living rooms are beautiful. You cannot tell from the inside except when you walk but I have spent and my mortgage is over twice than what I've spent before.
If this is how a home is "supposed to be" because I've never purchased a manufactured home, then this is the biggest amount of buyer's remorse than I could ever feel. It’s almost $190,000 and I'm putting in money for something that's gonna fall apart around me in the first five years and I would just have a shack. Then my neighbor asked me if I purchased the extended warranty. I didn't even know that there was an extended warranty and I don't know if my husband knew there was an extended warranty. Apparently, whatever things that need to be fixed you're only good for the first year that I purchased it and then after that I'm screwed.

Updated on 05/06/2022: I bought a home from Clayton Homes and it has been the worst decision in my life. Have had nothing But leaks since shortly after buying my mobile home. Reached out many times since it was purchased and was promised by Clayton that the would take care of the leaks. They have never kept their word and now it has been about 7 years and still more leaks. If you want a home that you can trust I currently cannot recommend them. My shingles continue to blow off because they are stapled on at the top edge of the shingles and half the staple is attached to the shingle and the other half is above the shingle.
Original Review: My wife and I bought a home about 5 years ago from Clayton Homes. We were thrilled at first, we bought the extended warranty. Within the first year we had to get the AC unit filled with Freon because it had all leaked out, luckily it was covered under the warranty. You can see nails protruding through the linoleum, we called and we were told that it wasn’t bad enough. We called about the walls bulging out, the front door allows water to drip on the inside of the house behind the drywall. This started within the first year, but all we got was a runaround. The master bedroom ceiling has been leaking.
We call and they come out and tell us it is the vents that is causing it. I have caulked the vents twice in the past year and I have sprayed a rubber coating all the way around the vent. This still has not stopped the water from leaking into the house. This was going to be the last house we ever buy but at the rate of issues we are having, I am not so sure it would last long enough. No matter who I call I just get the run around that the vents are leaking. I am tempted to trade it in but it is ridiculous to have a new home and feel trapped due to the issues with it.

When we purchased our Clayton home, the consultant we dealt with was good but we didn't know there were things we could change. We realized the cabinets are not as big as regular ones. We upgraded the cabinets anyway, but we would’ve made them to the size of regular cabinets instead of the smaller ones where one can barely get stuff through the doors. We would’ve upgraded the paint because the if one barely touches the paint in the house, it leaves a mark. And the consultant never told us, “You all should think about this,” or “You can this,” or “You can do that.”
The only real problem now I'm having is getting them to come out to fix stuff. They come out and try to fix when I call them but it just depends on who I get to whether they bring in all the stuff they need with them. For my door, they didn't have what they should have and they said, “Okay. Well, we got to order a door.” So, I waited a month and I called them to ask if the door is in or what’s going on, and the lady there said, “Oh yeah, I got your door laying here. We’ll have them out there Friday.” I feel like I've gotta call them and I never get return calls saying, “Hey, we’re gonna come back on this date to fix this stuff.” Then, they gotta come and patch the roof as well. Still, I understand things are gonna settle in. If someone’s buying one of these houses for the first time, then they should be informed a little bit more. While it was our first time buying one of these things and we did a lot of upgrades, we love the house and everybody was helpful.

Clayton homes are well-known and they’re well-made. But I am having issues with the house, and I don’t know whether they’re gonna get resolved or not. I think they will eventually, but I’m just not hearing any positive news about it, and I like to go and get it taken care of. We’re finding a trim that is not stapled down very well. The main issue is the flooring. We have humps in the floor. I don’t know whether it’s due to the level of the house, or whether it’s the lag bolts which is what they’re saying it is and very possibly could be, but I don’t think that’s all the problem. I’ve received a call and then they had forgot about it. They’re well aware of it. It’s been just about from day one that we’ve had this issue. And I always thought it was in the leveling, but the floor squeaks in one area of the house.
We had to glue a piece of bolt in the hole where the staples were not even in the wood to hold it down. There’s a lot of little trim work. We talked to them about the flooring issue on three or four different occasions, and we haven’t heard anything back from them on that. Clayton is one of the top lines. There’s only like three main companies out there that build the homes and Clayton is among the top three. So, we were comfortable in getting Clayton but now, I’m kinda a little uneasy about it.
Still, each and every time that we’ve had an issue, they have been down here and they've fixed it. The only issue now mainly is the flooring and they have been down to check it. And everything they said have been true. We had the vinyl siding that was rippled up down, and they said give it time to heat up and that was very true. It did correct itself, and a lot of the stuff they told us was happening. We didn’t have the room to put a bigger house in here. So, we took the design of another house that we really like, and they shortened it for us and made it fit the way we wanted it fit. As far as the design, we’re very happy with the way it’s designed and set up. We just wish we made our bedrooms a little bigger, but once again, that wasn’t on the manufacturer.

I really like the person that I bought the house from. She always kept right on top of everything. The layout of the home was very good. It suits me perfectly. It’s a four-bedroom and it’s modern. But when I went to look at the house, there were no shelves in the kitchens and in the cabinets and it was made kinda cheesy. It’s really bad. I didn’t understand why it would be like that. Also, the fitters and stuff set in my house are not level and I've got cracks all over the place.
If there was something that needs to be checked, Clayton Homes offered to fix it. And they have come out to fix most of it. I’ve still got a whole list of stuff that they’re supposed to fix. They hooked the heating system up and it was fitted backward. That took us a week or so for the guy to figure out what was wrong with it. He had to come back and rewire or do something to it.
Clayton Homes should’ve told me from the beginning that the home didn’t have shelves. The back of the cabinets are the walls and there are no risers, shelf, nor anything in the cabinet. They’re just holes. That was the way I got them and I didn’t realize it was that way when I got it. I should've been more diligent and looked at them, but I never imagined the cabinets were without shelves or backs in the cabinet. So, I just went ahead and hired somebody to put those stuff. The shelves guy told me that it was the way they came and there wasn’t anything they could do about it. Other than that, Clayton Homes is very good at what they do, and they try hard to make sure everything is done the way it’s supposed to be.

The actual salesman that they assigned me to was not the best. We had an appointment with on Saturday at 1:30. We got there and the guy wasn’t there. We waited a little while, they gave us some water, and we looked at the home. I wrote him a check and signed a pieced of paper and went on my merry way to go to try to arrange to move it. But they never even told me that there was a closing and then I had to come back for more paperwork. I was living 2.5 hours away from there. They could’ve told me that at some time I have to come back here.
I made a special trip back up there to do the closing. The salesman knew exactly what day I was coming in exactly what time. I showed up a little bit early, and he said he didn't have the paperwork ready yet. But he had known for two weeks that I was going to come back. We did his closing, which he didn’t even know how to do. When we finished that up, he said, “Where are you now? I’m getting ahold of the people that move the homes for us, and I’ll let you know how that goes.” I told him that I drove 21 hours to get up there and that I was hoping that he could get this set before I fly back home. So ball was in his court. But everything else with Clayton Homes was good.
The guys who delivered the home were great. The service manager who came out was excellent. He was charming, polite and helpful. He did everything fine. The home is the perfect design I wanted. It is big enough for me, the dog and the cat. I walked in and it was the colors I would’ve picked if I was picking. I like it. The only thing that was not really the best in the world was the communication after the house got put on the lot. There was a back and forth. We called and never got an answer. But eventually, we got a callback. The whole process was longer than it was supposed to be. By the time we got the house set on the lot and got it set up, it was well over a month because we had to make a payment before we moved in it.
As far as the quality, the home’s fine. It’s a decent home. The service guys were pretty awesome. We had some doors that needed to be readjusted, and their guy came out one day and fixed those. He was a really nice guy. And then there was a guy that came out and fixed the piece of trim on the front corner of the house, on the outside, and he was really nice and a great guy, too.

I saw Clayton Homes in Facebook. Two guys in Kentucky started a page where you can see the home that they sell and stuff. I went on there and I liked the features I got for the money compared to other homes. Clayton Homes had 8.5-foot ceilings and I liked the ability to change stuff in the home. I changed the access to the backdoor on my home. It was supposed to be on the very back of the long side of the house. They did that with no questions asked. Also, my wife didn’t like the beams in the ceiling. It’s sort of a farmhouse, so we took the beams out. Clayton also had quick availability. I looked in Norse’s beforehand but they were almost two months out before they could even start building our home. I talked to Brandon, my salesman, and he promised me it would be ready in two weeks and it was.
The others I went to didn’t want to be asked about the price. They didn’t want to include tax and if you go and tell them a bunch of features, they didn’t wanna tell you a price too. I asked Brandon what price it was gonna be and he said what I was gonna mortgage. The only downfall was the time frame and the setup crew. It was summertime and they put my home together. The inside of it where I had drywall didn’t get finished in the time frame that I would have liked. I had to complain to Brandon to get the setup crew to go on and finish the inside of it so we can get finalized and moved in. They were waiting for rainy days to finish the inside and they were doing other jobs.

The gentleman that I worked with was wonderful. His name was Russell, and everything he said happened within the time period that he said it would. He explained things to me that I didn’t understand. He stayed in contact with me the whole time, and he still keeps in contact with me. He would text me every once in a while just to see how things are going.
I had a couple of issues with a leak in my roof for a second there, but the guys he has working for him came out and fixed it. It was something that they had to do with putting the lights on it to move the trailer. It leaked down into my smoke detector and it went off. We kept trying to figure out what was going on with it. It took us about two days to figure out what was going on with it. But once they did, it got fixed. It was fantastic. I'm thoroughly pleased with everything. I really enjoyed my experience with Russell. Everybody that works with him and for him was fantastic. I couldn’t ask for a better experience.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Theresa! We're thrilled to hear that Russell was such a great help to you, and made your home buying experience amazing!

The reps that I worked with were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They were real good. Every step of the way, they were there. We asked a couple questions, but not too many questions we asked were unanswered. We like the chairs and table. We got the barn door, so they would close off the kids’ area.
That is so wonderful to hear, Shelvin! The team here at Clayton Homes is so happy to hear that you love your home and its features!

We have a family that lives in Delaware. So, we were looking around at houses in different parts of Delaware. My fiancée lived in a modular and she said that there was Clayton Homes down there. We walked in the first one and she fell in love with it. We’re both seniors and I’m still working. She didn’t wanna go into another older house. She wanted it to be for our retirement.
Clayton Homes did everything from A to Z for us and everything went really smooth. Their rep did it all from the house to the concrete and to the layout. She went through every inch and she was fantastic. She did all the footwork and the paperwork. I’m in Philadelphia 100 miles away. We did everything over the phone. We even did a mortgage over the phone. We just went to a settlement table and 15 minutes later, we’re already owners.
The location is just unbelievable. It’s all country. We’re born and raised in city life where you can hear your next-door neighbor talking. Out here, you hear crickets and you hear frogs. It's beautiful. We’re very satisfied with our home. I’ve got a lot of friends who are looking into moving down here. Delaware is a quiet, little secret to tax-free state and it’s a great environment for seniors to retire.
We’re still ecstatic over the house and the development and what we’re going through. It’s still a little work in motion. My fiancée changed everything on the walls like three times already. Also, the kids came down and took everything off the walls, and sanded them and spackled them, and did everything they had to touch up and painted.
Hey Mark, this is wonderful! We're so happy to hear that you love your home and the location! It sounds wonderful! We are also so glad to hear the team you worked with was so thorough and made sure you had a great experience!

Clayton is 30 minutes from my home town so I drive past there all the time. We went in there and looked in. We found one that we liked and we decided to go with them. We liked the open-floor concept on the one that we got. I was able to go look at the homes that they had on their lots without a salesman there pushing me and I was able to do it freely. It was nice to be able to have that with my fiancee, so we could talk. Our salesperson did an okay job but there was lack of communication from who we financed through and then the home center and then myself. I wasn’t up-to-date on anything and I was always having to call and ask numerous questions. It took five months until we were able to move in from the time that we chose the layout.
We changed the master bath and did the bigger walk-in shower. The quality of the home build is good although I would’ve liked to have known the type of floors they were putting down in there because I wasn’t certain on what they were doing. It’s almost like a piece of paper on the floor that looks like wood grain and we’ve had issues with moving furniture in. Then, I’ve had to go back and nail more of the trim than what I felt like needed to be done just because it wasn’t done properly from the get-go.
We had issues with the air conditioner and it’s still an issue that I’m having today with the master bedroom heating and cooling. When it’s cold outside, it’s freezing back there but hot in the living room. When it’s hot outside, it’s hot back there but cold in the living room. They came out three different times and looked at it and they say the issue has been fixed. The first guy came out and said the ductwork was bent. So the second guy came out and he said he fixed it but it wasn’t fixed. So, it’s really been a roller coaster and I’ve given up.
I would let people know the experience that we had. It’s not all Clayton Homes’ fault, but they’re the only one to go back to for the issues that we’re having. So, I don’t know that I would recommend them, by no means, to anybody. Nothing has been resolved. The reps from Clayton came out and fixed the floor in a couple spots but as time went on, we noticed more spots on the floor messed up. Then, we’re still waiting on the Vent-A-Hood over the stove. I’ve just got wires and a light hanging, and we’ve been in the home seven months now. It’s one thing after another that we’re constantly waiting on or something’s wrong or something didn’t get fixed when they did the walk through. I specifically went through the house and put pieces of masking tape over everything that was out of place or needed to be fixed, and half of it got fixed and half of it didn’t.

The salesperson did a good job. I liked her but I got confused where my house at. She showed me too many. I thought I picked one that had hallway and something else but I didn’t have these in the trailer I got. So, I went out there one day and asked them to show me what I picked out. They asked why and I said it was because I didn't think I got the right trailer. They said, “You wait this long to say that?” I said it took me that long to comprehend something. They told me what I bought and I don’t think that’s what I should get, but then I moved in.
Carl came to finish what was supposed to be done. I got shingles for my roofing and I’ve got two bands hanging from my roof. And how they put that electrical box thing in there, they left a big old whole under there and a bunch of mouse came in. I couldn’t figure out where it was coming in. I started checking everything and I couldn’t figure it out. I don’t think they were put together, but they said that was how they make them. So, I just went with that. Then they sent another guy over, and he fixed it.
Also, when the trailer came there, and I was walking around looking right in there and I had moved some furniture in there, worms came out of the wall. They squeezed out like maggots. I sprayed, swept and put them in a trash. Maybe they were in the sink when they moved it here. They were mainly in the living room, the kitchen and the hallway. After a while, they started coming out in the bathroom. That was the main thing I was really upset over. I kept telling them, but nothing was really ever done about that.
But I like the house and I have sent people over there at Clayton Homes to buy trailers. I just wish they’re able to fix some of the things. The toilet in the front bathroom keeps getting stopped up. It was cracked. We put a new toilet out there but that didn’t really stop the stopping up thing. I’ve been pouring some boiling water on it but that didn’t help too. We don’t flush toilet paper down there and I buy septic safe toilet paper. I don’t know how they got the piping underneath. I know everything is connected to one thing and it all goes to the septic tank. We had the septic tank already put in and we had the lines already running before that. All they had to do was hook it. And then, we had the power thing already done. All they had to do was hook that up as well. But some people there were good. They tried.
Another thing, when they separate the panel thing, those that had little strips were coming off. You’ll find a bunch of little staple marks where all bunch of little staples in the wall. The ones in the bathroom are coming loose of the staple. I kept reminding them and they sent the little man out. It was kind of annoying. It was nine times a year flipping on the side of the trailer and you didn’t know what was going on.

I bought my 2014 Clayton home brand new and have had nothing but problems ever since. I shouldn't have to try and sink all this money into a brand new home. Within the 1st year I had two roof leaks from the vents which resulted in new shingles, insulation and drywall. While the roofer was up there he informed me that the vents were never sealed and that we have instructions and leftover materials that were placed in the ceiling of which I have pictures of. Our heating system also went within the 1st year and I had to replace the entire top unit. Oh and I did call the insurance company. They came out and said it was manufacture and owner neglect. How can that be? The home was barely a year old.
Let's see what else. Our electrical sockets are popping out of the walls. I am having to replace them one by one. The light in the dining room doesn't work anymore. We have to have a whole new line ran from the electrical box. The kitchen cabinets are falling apart because they are made of press board. The 2nd bathroom toilet had a leak within the 1st year which resulted in new flooring laid down. We have to consistently fix the underpinning from falling apart. We have taken the entire skirting down and replaced all the screws with bigger sturdy ones. I paid extra for better weatherproofing and insulation but the home is still cold and very drafty. This house does not warm or cool evenly. The back of the house always stays cold. The siding we had to fix more than once since 2014.
I was so excited to purchase my 1st home on my own but have been disappointed in my purchase and feel like I made a HUGE mistake that I am stuck with. I have been making all the repairs myself and letting it go. However this last problem was my last straw for reason to file my complaint. Now I have to have a whole new roof, the entire side of my back bedroom has to be taken down studs and all and be replaced. They are damaged from a behind the wall leak that was not visible until we seen mold show up on the drywall its self.
When you go outside you can see where the side of the house is starting to bow out where the wall connects the roof. Who knows what this is going to cost but I am at my breaking point. The roofer came out, looked at it and said this has been leaking for a while. He wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't leaking for a few years now with the amount of damage behind the wall. Never again will I buy a Clayton home or a mobile home again.
Joann, thank you for your feedback. We apologize that you have had this experience! You are more than welcome to go ahead and send us your insurance report and we would be happy to review it and someone will be reaching out to you.

I live in Jasper and I always passed by Clayton Homes. I always knew about them so I just went up there one day and went talking to them. The rep was wonderful and she was a very sweet lady. She did a very good job and I would refer her to anybody I know. I love the community I live in but it took Clayton Homes about four months to come out and fix my wall plugs. They were coming out of the wall. There were also some holes on the siding and the shutters on my windows were screwed in too tight and they were bulging. I called and made a complaint and they finally came out and did it. It’s been good since then.

The homebuying process took too long but they said that was regular procedure now ‘cause they changed the laws. I told them I could buy a $50,000 car faster than I could get a $30,000 trailer. The folks there were good but they didn’t follow up after I signed the line. I’ve asked them to come check my air conditioner, and they said they’d check it. That has been two weeks ago and I heard nothing else from them. They hadn’t come back and that’s all well and done, too. It ain’t gonna kill me not to have one.
The home is very cheaply made. Every access to a hot water heater, a waterline and air condition got an access panel to it. As soon as you walk in the door, you can see big old screws. That’s not professional at all, but I’ve never lived in a trailer before, I reckon that’s the way they do things. Actually, I looked at another Clayton but it was in Panama City.

Clayton Homes was excellent and we’re happy with the house. We like the windows and the fact that when we moved in, the set up turned out like we envisioned. Sometimes that doesn’t always happen but with Clayton, it worked well. We picked the plan and the paint for our home, then we put a sliding door and more windows in. We were able to customize the home and make it look like how we wanted it to. The location is perfect for us as well. We moved back to a ranch that we’ve owned for years. We moved to another property then we set this home back up on a place where we lived for about a year. We dealt with a fellow named Dominic and he was good to deal with. He was straightforward and not pushy at all. He also took care of any questions and everything he said he’d do, he did. So, we’re pleased and we'd deal with him again.

At first everything went great. They helped us get approved and we got to pick a home we really liked. However that was soon to change. We signed the papers in early February 2018. The home was not delivered till end of March. They told us it would be delivered in about 2 weeks and finished before March. We did not get to move in till the mid or end of April. When they finally said that we could start our move, the home was not cleaned, nor move in ready from construction of putting it together. They did not do a walkthrough to be sure everything was assembled correctly. Within 2 weeks, the marriage line seemed to be splitting and the cover was wavy like the board had not been treated and left outside to while placed over top of rocks and rained on. The home also was and is still not level.
We contacted the distribution store the home was purchased from and informed them of every issue we were having. Between the leveling, molding falling off, flooring bubbling up due to a nail, plus uneven cut boards under the flooring you can feel, doors not shutting correctly, you can see the rafters in the ceiling, the closets not being finished (2" gap between the ceiling and the sheet rock), countertops being broken, the counters pulling away from the wall, the shower leaking into the bathroom through the wall due to a loose fitting, along with a leak in the roof and so much more. We contacted them over and over again to come look at what was going on. The first time we were told we were on the list and we also needed to wait 6 months for the house to settle for it to "level out". Needless to say we are almost 2 years in the house and still have the same issues plus some. We even called corporate prior to our 1 year mark and never heard back.
Finally now that we are almost 2 years in the home corporate calls. They tell us that we are past the 1 year warranty, however they will come look at it. The guy that came to inspect the house from corporate did nothing except tell us that we had a leak because a vent on the roof of the house needed to have caulk put around it, which we should have maintained ourselves. Considering how new the home is we thought it should have been assembled correctly the first time. We have finally given up on it and started repairing the issues ourselves. If we ever decide to buy another mobile/modular home it will not be from Clayton. Also maintenance had come out to level the home. They stated that the frame was level, however they were concerned that we were sold a faulty or defective home.
Kortany, we appreciate your feedback. We're sorry that you felt you had a poor experience with us. It's very important to us to provide a world-class customer experience, and we will forward your feedback to the appropriate parties in order to better our processes.

I was looking for a home, and I didn't wanna spend over $150,000. I'm a single woman and I couldn't afford it. I also didn't want any issues like no roofing, no foundation, no plumbing, no heat and air. My son told me about Clayton Homes. Everybody has their bias opinion about mobile homes, but when I went in there, I was fascinated and impressed. I was happy with the one that I saw. It was so customized and I don't need to do anything with it. Everything is beautiful and their reps were so nice too.
I immediately put down my down payment around May and I moved in the house in August. I've told several people about them because homes are so expensive. I spent 80,000 and got a new home. I chose the Breeze Farmhouse. My daughter just graduated from culinary school and the kitchen is fabulous. The only concern that I had was the agreement that they had with Yes! Community that I wasn't aware of. If I would have purchased my own land, it would have taken a year. If I would go with their agreement and go into a lot, I could do it sooner, but I didn't know that I would be stuck in that lot for 4 years. But it's okay because then I'd get me a chance to save up more money to buy the property to move the home. It's gonna cost me about $10,000 to move the home eventually.
Christie, we are thrilled reading your feedback and so happy that you and your family love the home. Thank you so much for recommending us to your friends and family!

They had to ship the home a long ways because I happen to be in Boise and there's a Clayton Homes in Twin. They had to work really hard to get us our house versus going to Twin. It’s a tiny little single-wide home. I like that the walls are taped-and-textured. We custom-ordered that. We had a problem with the shower. There was water running out from underneath. It leaked down into the insulation and they came and taken care of that.

Stay away or even run if you have to from Clayton Homes in Wilmington NC (representative Brian). They're nothing but lies and more lies. The price kept changing and the Clayton Homes (representative Brian) acted as if he and the lending institution which was Union mortgage (representative name Wendy **) were concerned about their commission and making money. Once I started asking questions about the fees and the overrated charges, my file went from preliminary approval to a denial because the Linda stated I didn't have reserves. Crazy fact is I have over 50k available with over 10 acres of land and they were still asking me to bring funds to the table to close.
Stay away from Clayton Homes in Wilmington NC. Brian the lazy procrastinating representative had me jumping through hoops and paying for permits that were ultimately denied out of my own pocket. This was the worst experience ever as an ** experiencing this type of treatment. I would like to think my color didn't play a big part in this situation but unfortunately the representative Brian paid more attention to people of the opposite race which was noticeable.

We were waiting on getting done with our land before we could move anything but everything was handled in a well amount of time. We found Clayton after shopping around for about a year. We went to Oakwood Homes, and spoke to the manager over there and a new sales associate and really enjoyed our interaction with them. That has really what helped us decide on Clayton Homes. Matthew was very professional, respectful, courteous and knowledgeable about what his job was and what he was doing. Brian, who was a new associate at the time, took Matthew’s instruction and I could see the effort that he was putting into it. He was courteous and respectful, as well. And that was always a positive.
Our house came straight from the factory. From that moment our decision was made and what house we wanted and we ordered it, and from the time it was delivered, we were disappointed about it. It did take longer. We were given two different excuses that contradicted each other on why it wasn’t delivered when they said it was gonna be delivered. The factory or whoever was over there, or the woman in charge at Oakwood Homes was not being 100% honest with us.
There were also small details in the home that they could’ve paid more attention to because those were not hard to do like the trim lining up and seams lining up in the walls, trimming on the lower cabinets. Some of the cabinets weren’t closing all the way. The doors weren’t really lining up. I could be in the restroom getting out of the shower and look up and I could see where the trim didn’t meet together, that it was off up in the corner somewhere. But we liked the floorplans and we love the design and style. My wife loves the kitchen 'cause she loves a big kitchen. It’s bright. It’s white. It’s like the centerpiece. Our friends who have seen it, love the design of the kitchen, with the big island.

The quality of our home is not what I've expected. You can see through the walls, where the walls come together inside the house, from my mudroom, I can watch my wife doing dishes. I haven't heard from them, so we figured nothing else was gonna get done and we were on our own. There’s a big hole. The people that put our stucco up on the outside of the home where there’s stucco instead of brick, they poked a big perfectly centered hole right in the siding where water is running in. I put a piece of tape over it just to cover it up, but it rains so much here in West Virginia that it got inside the tape and just washed the tape off.
There’s still stuff that isn’t done. The front door leaks between the doorjamb and the walls or the outside, which means that it runs in between the house door and the screen door and runs into the house. There’s nails or screws or whatever starting to work their way up through the floor and sticking up, starting to poke up through the floor.
Three-quarters of the doors in the house don’t close right. They came out and said they fixed the outside door on the side by the mudroom. Then it lasted for two days and now, we literally have to slam the door. We can’t just close it. We gotta turn the handle and pull real hard and then hope that it closes. I don’t know how many times I've woken up in the morning and the dog has been outside on his own because the door comes open.
Our caulk on stuff has mold in it that you can’t get off. It’s coming from the outside in, that you cannot scrub off. I tried scrubbing it off with mold cleaner and a toothbrush and it is embedded. So now I have a home that I've been living in since September that has this mold thing. The home is very energy-efficient. It’s great for the heat and the air and all that stuff. But that should tell you that there should be no mold. I take a little knife or whatever and just scrape it, and it’s on the inside of the caulk. We pointed all this stuff out to them at Oakwood Homes in Knightsville, West Virginia, where we bought it from.
The tub surround has nothing on the top of it. The water is running down between the tub surrounds and running down in-between the wall. It’s coming out of the bottom by the tub and by the floor. It’s getting to be where nothing’s gonna get done. I mentioned to them about getting an attorney and they said that I'd get an attorney, then they wouldn't send anybody out there at all. It would go through the courts. Also, the rep said that it as a design flaw that they tried to bring up in meetings to get fixed. She said that she would bring it up again with them the next time they would have a meeting to see if she can get something done about it. But I haven't heard anything back.
Now Clayton sent somebody all the way from Tennessee and come up there to fix the floors. The guy took one spot where a screw was coming through the floor and he took a razor knife and cut it and pulled the nail out, and then took a hot glue gun and glued it back down. So now, I got a spot on my floor where it was just hot-glued. We even have furniture coasters under everything and everywhere we set furniture, it leaves a permanent dent into the floor. They said there was nothing they could do about that and that the floors would actually move. The representative that comes from Tennessee said that the vinyl wood flooring was not glued down to make them easier to repair and that was the way they do them.
We spent pretty much $96,000 to buy a home and get it put in and everything else, and then they put it on June 4th and then we never even seen them again until September. We had to keep calling to get people out there. They wanted us to put the “purchased” on, and I told them I would not put “purchased” on until the stucco’s on.
It took Clayton forever and a day to come to do that and then they left all their garbage. A rep came out there and took pictures of everything. These guys left their garbage, Monster cans, all their scrap stuff. They even took stuff that wasn’t even used at our house. They just unloaded their pickup truck in the back of our house because I had a brush pile back there. They left broken bricklaying all over the place, and then nobody picked up any of their garbage. Whatever they used outside or in the house was left there.
Clayton Homes sent somebody out and one of us would have to take a day off of work for them to be there to get something done. The guy worked for about an hour and a half, and then said he was gonna run out to his van. Then he ran out to his van and he was gone. Then they told us that they weren’t gonna put up the molding and everything that come with the house because it was cheap and was gonna break and we were better off just to buy our own. I told them that I paid for this home to be finished, but the guy said that the stuff was cheap and that we should just geet our own and put it up. Then it took up until a month and a half ago for us to get our doorjamb casing.

When I was looking for a new house, I went through Clayton Homes and got hooked up. The home buying process was easy and we were able to customize the colors on the outside. Dan helped me out a lot. He changed my life and my family. There was some problem with the trim though. The little staples were coming off. I called Chris from Clayton Homes and he is gonna come out and take care of it. Also, when the heater wasn’t working, Chris took care of that, too. The home was a good deal and we like it.
Thank you for the awesome feedback, Austin! At Clayton Homes, we strive to provide this type of service to each and every customer. It is wonderful that Chris was able to resolve any issues you had. We are thrilled that you and your family love your home!

This is my 15 month review of my $150,000 2018 The Lloyd home. If you haven’t made your Clayton purchase yet do yourself a favor! Keep shopping! My Clayton journey started out great. I used an independent Clayton dealer in Parsons Kansas and they treated me great. My purchase was fast and easy and my home was delivered on time. But that’s where is all changed. I quickly realized i had made a mistake after seeing the poor quality and horrible craftsmanship of the home.
The first thing we noticed after moving in was the bad air flow in the HVAC system. In our master bath and bedroom (the farthest rooms from the AC unit) we have almost zero air flow out of the vents and the rooms stay 5-10° cooler or warmer than the rest of the house. The tech said that there was nothing they could do and that I would just have to deal with it. Not what I wanted to hear with my $500 electric bills! Next was the plumbing issues! I had leak after leak in the kitchen and both bathrooms. I had to replace multiple valves and fittings and both toilet bowl valves. Then rainy season came around and we notice a huge puddle in the living room floor and sure enough the roof was leaking! After about 6 weeks and countless towels and buckets of water later they finally got the roof sealed.
Those were our major hurdles in the beginning and we are still living with the sub par HVAC system. Now I have a list a mile long of poor craftsmanship examples that I have to look at every day! I have walls that are out of square with the floor and ceiling. Nearly all of the trim has shrunk and pulled away from the walls leaving gaps. The floors have humps and sags in places from who knows what. Some of the door jambs are so out of what the doors won’t even latch. Our front door isn’t sealed right and leaks in rain storms, ruining our trim inside.
Our master shower was leaking and the caulking had cracked out and separated from the fake tile and when we cut the old stuff out we found that there was in fact no drywall or backer board behind the tile and there was actually flat cardboard boxes spacing the tile panels out away from the studs! We were shocked. How does a major company in 2018 get away with something like that?? If you don’t believe me then you need to check out these pictures.
I could go on and on but the point is my Clayton built home is finished poorly and I don’t feel it was worth the money I spent. If you're in the market do yourself a favor and pay attention to details. Ask about quality, walk through that house again and really take a good look. If you're expecting a top notch finished home then you're in the wrong place!

I work in the Conroe area, so I went to the Conroe Clayton Homes and we saw the house, and we fell in love with it. The home process was amazing. They helped us out and even waited for us. We had the property but it wasn't ready to move, so they helped us out with that. They also helped us out with the process of the water and the septic. The consultant was really polite and he called us when we needed him to. Even when he wasn't there, he would call us back and see how he could help us. Even after the sale, he was up-to-date with us, making sure that he has his coworkers worked on the waters and the septic.
Hey Alice, we are so thrilled that you have had such a wonderful experience with us through the home buying process! It's so wonderful to hear that any issues that arose were fixed promptly, and that you are pleased with everything! We appreciate you so much!

We looked at all different places and we always kept going back to Clayton. We had Jay for our salesperson, and he was the most terrific, awesomest person ever. The house sold itself to start with, but he went to every effort to make everything perfect. If there was something that we were concerned about he answered all the questions. He even fixed the problem that we had about where the house was laid out because we didn't know that it could be switched around different. He was spot on everything and he made suggestions. He was with us the whole way, letting us know everything that was going on, including the guys that would be coming out, doing this and that. We had a lot of rain during that time so there were concerns but he kept us informed on everything.
And Jay wasn't pushy at all. He said, "Take your time if you're not ready to put down your deposit or make sure that's the right house that you want." And we went to other places that were kinda like, "You gotta put $2,000 down right now or it's not gonna be here." We were looking for a certain mudroom laundry room. We didn't want something with just the washer and dryer fit in. We wanted something bigger. And everybody else aside from Clayton only had small laundry room. We weren't thinking about a porch until we saw the Clayton model one day when we were out there and Jay said, "Oh, yeah. You can add that on if you want." So we ended up adding a porch on the end where the laundry room is. The laundry room is just like a mini-kitchen. It's just wonderful because I got my washer, dryer and I got cabinets.
I also wanted a certain place to put a freezer because in my other house we had the freezer just sitting out in like a little deep area and I couldn't stand that. So we worked around that. Jay also helped us out with the colors. We had a couple little, minor things, but the guys set their appointments and they came out there and got everything done lickety-split.
I was worried about not having a place to stay in between the transition. But Jay said, "Don't worry. Don't worry. It's all gonna work out. You're gonna have electricity and water into it. We'll get everything where you can move in." I didn't wanna have to pay for a hotel and have extra expenses. Everything worked out perfect. I'm a worrywart to start with and Jay made me feel very confident that everything was gonna go great, and it did.
Dave and his crew, who set up our house that day, were awesome just as well because they were the cleanest. We walked in the house after they first set it up and they were doing stuff inside, and they swept and mopped. It was just awesome. They didn't have any trash outside. They were as pleasant as can be. We spent a lot of time with them out there, putting everything together. Dave came out and helped us with the sewer line. The guys worked really hard even when it was like 100-and-something degree weather. Clayton at Florence couldn't have made it any better or easier buying a house. All the people there were just wonderful. I'd recommend them to anybody and everybody.
Hi, Billie. Thank you so much for reaching out regarding your recent home buying purchase with Clayton Homes! We are so happy that you had had such a wonderful experience! My husband and I visited several Clayton Homes locations throughout our process of choosing a home for us, the right home for us. We chose a Clayton Homes a couple hours from our location but it was because the customer service (at first) was amazing. Everything was explained in detail and we were reassured through the process that we were going to be able to get the home we chose. Our appraisal for the land we were buying came in lower than anticipated, however, we were again reassured that Clayton would make it work.
We started seeing a trend of actions. The numbers were increasing each time we spoke. At first it was explained that we would pay $157,000 for everything, then when we met with our lender he had a figure of $172,000 and asked if Clayton showed us the breakdown, and we told him no. We then had to make some changes for the appraisal adjustment but that didn't work because the loan amount changed to $194,000. When I told my rep that wasn't going to work, I mean who would pay that kind of money for a manufactured home, he quickly came down to $183,000. That was not going to work either, Our appraisal is $147,000. Which to me should be plenty for a manufactured home.
I mean let's face it, the whole purpose of an appraisal is not only to protect the lender but also the buyer. You don't want to pay more for the actual value. Truth is Clayton is way overpriced. And I feel once they don't think there is really much they can do for you, find you the home you want, they string you along and provide empty promises. Clayton wasted a lot of our time, months. I would not suggest buying your Manufactured Home with Clayton. And if you choose otherwise, do your research. Look at several home places and compare prices. There are other places out there that will treat you like family, be honest, and not overcharge you. I wish we did this from the start. If we did, our house might be in the process of being built as we speak. Instead, we are starting all over.
My husband and I work long hours all week and can only get out on Saturdays to see homes and talk to people. Too many weekends and months have been lost because of Clayton Homes. If they were just honest or took the time to sit down and explain what they could do for us instead of telling us they would have to call us the following week, it would have saved time. Not to mention when we were told we would be called back, we never got that call. I had to stay on them by calling or emailing or texting. That is not good customer service. Be careful who you deal with when dealing with Clayton Homes. They are a large company and sometimes with that, you get what you get.
Denise, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your experiences. Clayton Homes strives to provide exceptional customer experiences, and we are taking new measures every day to improve upon our practices. The buying process with Clayton Homes went well. But I was disappointed with the end product for what I thought I was getting and what it turned out to be. The factory has sent a representative out to take care of a number of things, but there were predrilled holes under the vinyl. He had to take the vinyl up. There was a lot of debris under the vinyl that he had to clean out. The toilet seats didn’t fit. The paint job is terrible and it’s still terrible. We’ve not repainted it. There are places with no paint on the walls or on the trim at all. On the cabinets, three of the doors are gonna have to be replaced, which they’ve already put in their order for those because they didn’t match. To pay what I paid for it, I expect to get a top-line product.
The people at the dealership were so nice. The guys that came out from the dealership have done their best to try to rectify things. The gentleman that came from the factory did a fantastic job. His name was Homer. He works like he’s fighting a war, and he knows his job. He knows what he’s doing, which was something that you don’t see a whole lot of anymore. There are still things that are not corrected and probably will never be corrected, but it is a nice home.

Now that the warranty has expired I have issues with my shower floor pan. You can feel and see the floor shifting when you are in the shower. This is a construction issue not a foundation or other issue. This just highlights how terrible Clayton Homes is at construction and customer satisfaction. I wish I could have sent the home back on day one and I told the plant that as well. I should have listened to friends that had experience with Clayton Homes, they all said not to buy a Clayton. I should have listened! If Clayton truly stood behind their product they would have a better warranty for their product, but clearly they know their homes are crap so why stand behind them. Buyer Beware is all I can say....

When we bought our house, there were no written plans and It was hard to find anything online to say what it would look like. Evidently, it was something unusual. We picked blinds, flooring, walls in the inside, but we picked from a different home plan. We weren’t able to even look at our own home plan. We also added a couple of things and turned a bedroom into a den because we’re only allowed to have two bedrooms on our lot. The process took longer than we thought it would take, but they warned us. The whole thing took about eight weeks from the day that they would deliver to their lot. According to them, it went pretty quickly, but to us, it took forever.
Because it is a mobile home, the quality is okay. We know that it’s a mobile home. Not everybody has to know that when they walk in though because they won’t think it is, but there are a lot of little things that the builder could do that would make it less like a mobile home and strange. There are a lot of silly things about the house, like the placement of electric outlets. They just don’t make a lot of sense.
Also, one side of our house has shutters on all the windows, but on the front where you see it from the street and where the porch is, it doesn’t have any shutters. To me, that was kinda weird. I thought, "Why didn’t they think of that?” However, they just delivered an identical house in our neighborhood and that one has shutters on the front. But all in all, we like the house very much.

Everything went well with Clayton Homes. It took a little longer to get everything set up out here in the country because of it being a new property. The home was here a little before we could get the water and electric hooked to it, so we had plenty of time to get things that we brought with us moved in. We didn't bring everything down with us. We were moving from Katy to Houston and everything turned out well. Richard was the main manager and Rico was the salesman who worked with us. Susan was the secretary who did a lot of the legwork and I still call her and ask her questions. They did a good job in explaining all aspects of my home purchase. We decided not to finance and paid cash. That way, we didn't have to worry about a mortgage or an escrow account, so we’re free and clear. Still, they were willing to help us out if we had any questions. A lot of time, if people sell a product, they're done with you, and Clayton was not like that at all.
I like the spaciousness of my Clayton home. Compared to the one in Katy, this one is so open and there’s a lot of room. We’ve got four bedrooms and it has a lot more square-feet. We don’t like living in the country, which is why we’re in this town. So, that’s a big plus. They returned calls and emails. Someone was always out here at the drop of a hat if we had a question about something or anything going on. They were right here with us the whole time.
This is so wonderful to hear, Audrey! It sounds like Richard, Rico, and Susan went above and beyond to make sure you were taken care of. I am ecstatic to hear that you felt cared for during every step of the home buying process and beyond. I will be sure to forward your feedback on to Richard and his team!

My wife's cousin is a Realtor. I was referred to go over to Clayton and meet with Julia, and she’s phenomenal. They addressed my questions and concerns very well. Even Derrick, the manager over there, was very good. The home-buying process was smooth and very easy. They simplified everything. What was really good too was that they followed up, just making sure how everything was. I got along better with them than I do with most family members. It was very pleasant.
I bought a floor model and although I could have done customizations if I wanted to, it would have just been an add-on. We were fine with the way it was. It even came fully-stocked with furniture. It was a great deal so we couldn’t pass it up. The home is very well-built too. Instead of a modular home, it’s a standard house and with the insulating factors, my electric bill is barely over 100 bucks for how big it is. The house that I was living in previously was smaller and the electric bill was almost 200 bucks. It’s a night and day difference. When I got it there and things moved, they got it set up and they got everything back, if not better-conditioned than it was originally. We’ve been very pleased with everything.
Wow, Andrew! I am thrilled to hear how happy you are with your home! It's awesome to hear you are saving money on your electric bill, too! It's wonderful to hear that the items moved into your home were left in better condition than when you originally placed them! I will be sure to forward your positive feedback to Derek and his team! I’m disappointed with Clayton because I haven’t got anything done about my fence. My water pipes are exposed. They weren’t buried underground like they should have been. I really am upset about my pipes being exposed like that. They have been coming in and doing some repairs. They replaced the faucet, they did some caulking on my roof to keep it from leaking and they caulked our door because it was leaking so bad. Water was covering our carpet.
I had a guy from Clayton come out a couple of days ago and he took some pictures. Nothing was said about getting it fixed. But I was promised a gift card because I never got a cleaning on my house, which was supposed to come with the house, and we never got a cleaning service. I was also supposed to get a discount card to get a carpet cleaning. Also, we have an 8-foot wooden fence and he told me that the fence didn’t look as bad as they were saying it did. It did have a hole in one of the planks, but not a very big hole. But the guy said that they were gonna replace it because it was rotten. He also didn’t think the pipes should be above ground. Clayton would have been in some deep trouble because you don’t mix a waterline pipe into the high-voltage power line.
Everything was supposed to be working in the house, and I was able to buy a fan motor and put it in the freezer and got my icebox working because it wasn’t working either when we bought the house. Hurricane Harvey damaged our other home and we had to get something. It’s a new place to live. There’s a central AC and heat that’s working. We went from a big house to a single trailer. So far, we don’t have our complaints. I’ve dealt with very nice people. They followed through. My pipes are still above ground, but I don’t wanna put them down. It was their contractors that they contracted that did the job bad. If they would get different contractors out to do it right, then everything would be great. Nonetheless, they have tried to help. I just hope they get on the ball and get things going.

We’ve been to 2 or 3 different mobile home outlets and decided on Clayton where we got a better deal. We live out in the country and they handled the whole home-buying process real well, including the moving service they used. In getting set up, things got jiggled loose or banged around, but they were right on the spot and repaired that to make it home-ready. The Clayton people were very professional and made it so we felt right at home. We’re pleased with our home, but the model we got could have used more drawers than cabinets. There’s about a million cabinets and it had one set of drawers in the kitchen. But we got that handled and worked out. So, when they build another home this size, they should add more drawer space. The overall experience went smooth and easy, and they had good salesmen as well.

We love our salesman from Clayton Homes, Matt. He was awesome and there was nothing else they could've done to help us out especially with me being seven months pregnant at the time. I work at Walmart and Matt came to my line four months before. I have seen that he works at Clayton and I told him that my husband and I have been talking about buying a house. I asked if he had a card and he said he didn't but then he could give me his number. When we went to Clayton, I went through a woman at first but then she didn't think we were serious and brushed as off. So, we came back and that woman put Matt with us. Fate brought us together 'cause he remembered me from Walmart.
At Clayton, the popcorn they gave was amazing. Also, I brought my daughter who was four at the time and the reps printed on papers for her to color. Buying from them was an amazing process. Matt didn't try to oversell anything. Instead, he asked for the do's and don'ts and what would be the deal-breaker which would be why I wouldn't get the house. We got it but were delayed a couple of months. But still, the Clayton reps called and checked on us when I had my baby. They sent stuff in the mail and stayed in contact. At the time, we were paying rent of $805 for a three-bedroom, two-bath place. Now were have a four-bedroom, two-bath place and we pay roughly $700 with our insurance. Everything that I told Matt I wanted, the home has.
This is so wonderful, Jasmine! I'm so happy Matt was able to assist you and your husband, Bobby, in the home buying process! The person (Lauren) who is in charge of the project keeps giving me the run around. I paid 300000 for this house and it looks terrible inside. There are crack everywhere, dents in the walls, spackle that is not finished, they painted it without cleaning so there is dirt clumps all over the walls. The trim looks terrible. The strip binding the house does not match anything. The crews show up for half a day.
Nothing but excuses from Clayton and Eagle River. The exterior is not done. The septic keeps malfunctioning. The grading of the land is terrible. There has been several meetings and Clayton blames everyone but themselves. My house has been on the foundation for 4 months now and it is nowhere near done. And so, I had Lexington Clayton, which was close, and then Asheboro, Clayton was the closest. I called both and I knew that I wanted to go to Asheboro. The home consultant I dealt with was excellent. I picked out my floors, walls, and cabinets, and I’ve done the two-bedroom instead of the three, and that made everything much larger all the way through it.
Any time that something moves and settles, it is going to have a few little inconsistencies -- even a brand new house will do that over time as it settles. I’m one of these very OCD people, and the only thing that I wished I would have that I don’t have is some kind of a touch-up kit that I could touch up some bad places that were on the walls. I’ve tried several different things but I’ve not come across a formula yet that I could touch up places.

When you call the guy's attention, he goes to do the repair fast, but he needs to repair some drainage issue next week. I also have more issues, like the ceiling is cracked in the inside. We have to wait a long time to put out the order for going to fix my home, and I understand that because the guy has a lot of work. But, then, I have another issue that starts as soon as we got the home. The attention to the customer for repair is not so good. I’m not happy for that.

The first time we went to Clayton Homes, we felt really comfortable with the salespeople. Also, I really liked what we saw on the lot and that we were able to custom-order what we wanted. We didn’t have to take what was there. The overall sales experience from Clayton Homes was good. The consultant was helpful in helping us find the floor plan we wanted and getting everything set up. And anytime we had questions, he was always available. Although there were a couple problems, like with one of the contractors that did our concrete work, the consultant was quick to get them fixed.
I like everything on my new home. The open-floor plan is very nice. It’s a single-wide, but it’s like a 16-wide. And I’ve had friends over who see it on the outside. They would have something in their mind what they think it should look like on the inside but they'd be like, “Wow!” It’s not what they expected." We went for the no carpets because we have two little dogs and they were accommodating. We also got the light-colored cabinets instead of the dark-colored ones, and when the home consultant saw it, he was so impressed. He said he’d never seen that color combination before and he thought it was fabulous. We’ve referred some friends of ours to Clayton and my they recently bought a home from Clayton as well.
Penny, I am so happy to hear that you had a wonderful experience while visiting our home center. I'm pleased to hear how happy you are with the custom features available to customize your home. It is also very nice to hear that any issues that occurred during set up were immediately attended to. Congratulations on your new home and we are hope you and Carl enjoy your home for years to come!

Eight busted walls. I sign papers 9 17 2019 before Thanksgiving. I’ve been after them to fix things and make it right. They were supposed to remove the trash still there to this day 4 24 2020. They make it like it’s my fault me and my wife we been cleaning up ourselves and they got paid for it. All they care about is line their pockets. They have no customer care. Not even want to compensate us for all the time and money spent Out of all pocket when we paid them $62,000 for the home and for the job. So we are out weeks of lost wages.
Cleaning up they have tore up the fence on the property line. Push trees over the property line and tow up neighbors trees and Have not fixed it to this day. They don’t care about your property or anyone else’s. The home office doesn’t care either. I talk to the GM he doesn’t care. Just be aware of Clayton Homes. Make sure that you put in detail your contract when they gonna start and when you gonna be in your house and make it clear. If not they won’t finish what they start do you houses or is it that well-built to start off with. Clayton home had a good name. All it is now is a smokescreen and a way to line their pockets. They advertise the customer comes first. I haven’t seen it yet. All I’ve seen is one runaround after another. I’ve got a log that I have kept. Go to Clayton Homes Sweetwater YouTube. Check out the videos and see if I’m telling a lie or not. Beware of Clayton Homes.
Original: They did not build the pad properly and has no drainage. My house is it under three or 4 inches of water. When they went to in the driveway they only cut a 14 foot hole for a 16 foot trailer. They damage the vinyl. The roof. The screen door. I can take an 8 foot three-quarter inch piece of pipe and push it in the ground 4 foot by hand with no problem. I have eight busted walls. 19 busted ceilings. It’s been like this now for going on 14 weeks. If I was to send out somebody out on the factory but he did not have no clue what he was doing. I’m post to have another meeting but we’ll see how it goes.
The house was not built that well. The fire marshal call me an hour. Y’all have charged with 15 Violations on Hylda house was installed. I wish someone would call me so I can send you all pictures. I asked for the representative to call me personally and I’ve yet to have anybody with any Sorgi to contact me yet all they wanted to do reflector $62,000 and leave me hanging. Y’all see. Y’all keep high standards where are your standards. I don’t see you know how standards at all. I’m personally trying to let people know do not buy anything from Clayton Homes. In Clayton Homes If they can’t start doing as a claim and expecting these houses before they leave the site and on the site like they like they are post to do and they have no standards. So it’s a puff of smoke that they are sending out to the public that they have our best interest in mind. All it is is they want to land a pocket.

Clayton Homes was amazing. They were really nice and willing to help. It was really smooth for the most part. But with the contractors, it was kind of a slow process and I understand that they were a little backed up. And then the people that put down my deep well were having issues with keeping people hired. They would hire somebody and then they wouldn’t show up. It was that kind of stuff. It wasn’t anything that was controllable so it wasn’t very much of a big deal. It was just a little frustrating to me to have to wait. But other than that, it was great. I was able to set up the space how I wanted it. I told them what I wanted and for the most part, they were able to accommodate me with that.

I like the way our Clayton Homes' house was built. The structure of the home is totally different and the wall structure is really steady. And most of all, I like it for efficiency because my utility bill is way down on what they used to be. Clayton's home consultant let me know to just call him anytime if something comes up. Any questions I asked him, I got a good and right answer. He explained everything that I didn't understand and was just right there with me.
Barbara, I am so thrilled to hear that you had such a positive experience! Clayton Homes strives for this kind of response from our customers, and we are so happy that you are happy! We are always here to answer any other questions you may have.

I heard about Clayton Homes from my aunt, and they made me feel at home, like I was more important than anything else. The home-buying process was very simple and easy. Once they explained to me the steps, it all fell into place. Phillip, the consultant, knew everything about them. It was outstanding. It was like it was second nature to him. The process did not take long because all the information and paperwork I had to sign went along with it. The quality of home is good and the house was fine the way it was, but I wished they would not do plastic fittings on the water system. When I first got the house, as soon as the water got put to the sink, they started to leak because it was plastic fittings. That doesn’t seal the way it is supposed to. We got that upgraded now, metal to metal, and it has not leaked since. Overall, Clayton is perfect, and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Bruce, the rep from Clayton, stayed in communication the whole time. If I had a question, I called him. He was good. I didn't think we were gonna be able to get a home and he worked as hard as he could to get us one. Clayton Homes got us in the house in a timely manner and they did everything they were supposed to do. But Clayton should take time and do it right when they make the house. The floor squeaks and they didn't hook up the septic tank right. So, the water in the master bedroom doesn't have a good flow. One of the doors won't shut right. The quality of the home compared to the cost was not what we wanted. There were some things that needed to be done, but it was better than what we had.

Everything went smoothly and very nicely with Clayton. It was a quick process too. It took about four months from the time we first looked at the trailers on the lot to the time that we signed everything. I was very satisfied. The rep made sure that we knew what we were getting into. We’re very young, so he helped in that aspect. We didn’t have any worries or stresses about all the paperwork and he explained everything to us. Clayton did everything perfectly, and the quality was fantastic in relation to the cost. I didn’t think they made mobile homes so pretty. I love the size of the home for the price. We didn’t think we would be able to have a four-bedroom. So, that was amazing.

I’m in the business as well, so the consultant I dealt with and I spoke the same language. They were very knowledgeable about what they were saying. And they did what they say they were going to do and when they said they were going to do it. I do business with people like that. I bought a used home from them and we came together on a fair price. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have bought it. If I could change anything, the only thing would be to lower their price. Nevertheless, overall, I feel good about Clayton Homes.

If you tell him something was wrong, he didn’t mind fixing it. He went over and beyond. I hate that he's not with them anymore. I was renting for about 10 and a half years from my landlord and I got tired of it. I got tired of seeing all my friends leave and doing better. Clayton's homebuying process was very good. They went through it step by step with me and was telling me what I had to do and what I needed to do, and I did it. There are a few minor things that they need to take care of. And I called them. They’re supposed to be sending the superintendent out here.
When they put the home together, it was kinda crazy because they stapled the panel, and some of their staples weren’t even long enough to hold it. And then you can just put your finger in and it’ll fall off. So, I’m waiting on them to come now and fix it but everything is good. The doors are all set. I feel good about my home. This is the first time I had a dishwasher. It’s a very nice home. Chris and Steve went well out of their way to get up in here. Clayton did pretty good, but there's just a few kinks and stuff that they need to take care of.

The quality of the home, as far as what we have put into, is really good. However, there are a few things that we had asked and paid for which we had found out that wasn't done. We had asked for OSB board to be in the bathroom surrounded because we needed handicap bars. We had paid for that then we had found out that has not been put in. We've had some trouble with something across in the ceiling showing and they had to get a specialist that does drywalling out to fix that. We've also had some trim come loose from the ceiling and they've had to put it back on. Then, the hoses under the sink weren't tightened up, so it leaked once they got everything in place.
We had to have a floor replaced down to the insulation, and that's when the people from the plant came. I'm very well pleased with their work. However, sometimes they just put a band-aid solution on it. They're nice people but they're just in such a hurry so they can't do anything in-depth. Still, the issues we've had have been settled and everything has been real good overall.

Clayton Homes' consultant was great ‘cause he was personable. He made sure to return phone calls and took care of everything that needed to be taken care of on his end. The home feel is very well put together, and for the money that we’ve paid and are gonna pay, it's definitely worth it. The community the house is in is in the woods. It's quiet and away from everybody. I love it.
However, whoever did the decks or the exterior building part didn't do a very sturdy job on it. It's wobbly and didn't last very long, so we had to replace some of the railings already and it’s not even been a year. Other than that, everything went great. They were always timely in getting back to me if I had any questions and thorough with everything and they still are. If there was something wrong or I needed something fixed, they were very attentive.

Everything went fine with Clayton, and I am enjoying my home. I worked with consultant Jim, and he was very helpful to show me everything about the house that he thought I needed to know because I didn't know much about a mobile home -- I had always lived in a brick home until my home burned down. Then there was another guy named Mike and he was nice too. After I picked out the home that Jim showed me, Mike came out and measured the plot. He also showed me how everything would be set up on the plot and where everything would be. So, all in all, I was satisfied with what they did for me.
I have been in other mobile homes before and I know this is a new one. Mine was built out of a lot better material than the older ones were. They gave me a color preference and I picked out whatever they showed me. I picked the one I wanted, and everything worked fine. They changed some light fixtures for me like I wanted and they had a microwave over the stove. I wanted a hood and a fan there because I'm short, and I didn't want to get burned taking stuff out of the microwave. So, they changed that for me. Whatever I asked them to do, they did.

Buying a home from Clayton Homes was really easy and good. The home consultant was super nice. I had his number and I could call him at any time. He always answered all of my questions. I had to order my home so I got to pick what I wanted in it. I changed the way the wallboards are hanging. It’s turned to the side to keep from having so many of those little seams. Giles Manufacturing made this one, and it’s one of the things they did in the front room. And it's one of the reasons I really liked the home that I got ‘cause I had them do it in the bedroom also. However, whatever's inside the cabinets around the refrigerator and the kitchen are not very thick or sturdy enough to hold something heavy. I don’t know if I would put a hole out on the bottom. Other than that, I like the quality of the house.

I liked working with Lauren and Clayton Homes very much. They were fantastic people and I got anything I needed done. I can complain about my trailer but I can't complain about them. The reps were good and they answered any questions I had as well as any problems, or they came. They were excellent. I also like my home very much and I'm very happy but I have come across some major issues that I’d like to wrap them on the head. A couple of months ago, there were seven people in here, and all of a sudden, we heard what sounded almost like a small bomb. Everybody got scared and ran out. We had it checked several times and nobody could find anything but I know something happened.
The reps from Clayton were gonna come down last week so that I could set up an appointment for the boys to come down. I have a feeling that I have a crack in my ceiling but that has nothing to do with Clayton Homes. Then, in my closet, there is daylight that comes in in my bedroom. So, they're supposed to be fixing that. It sounds like an airplane in my house when my furnace is running. It is so loud and it's because of the door. They should put a better-quality door on it. You don't know about it and you don't think about it when somebody comes and sells you. You're looking at it but you're not hearing it because everything’s shut off. If I heard that, I wouldn't have bought the trailer. But I have a beautiful home and I'm slowly getting it to where I want although that door is so annoying.
Clayton sells the homes but they're not the ones who build it. I cannot condemn or blame them. The dealings with them and the girls were fantastic but the crack in my ceiling has been the second or third time. My home is all in level and it’s a good-sized one. It's easy to maintain, well-insulated and comfortable. I have enough room to turn around. Some places were small and they jacked my lot rent up because they're doing some waterlines and adding people on to that. I can either sell the trailer or I'm gonna start looking for some land. If I can afford to pay for the lot rent, I can afford to buy a land. I am really upset because I'm on a limited income and this has been putting a hard burden on me and I'm debating what I wanna do because it's difficult. I was very upset with it. I got a letter in the mail and I sat down and thought that I couldn’t do this. I don't do anything and it's not like I have all kinds of stuff going on.
I have my trailer sitting here on the lot and the only thing that I get is that they pick up my garbage and I have my water and sewer but it's $376 a month. That's too much. I am really pissed off because I wouldn't have bought the trailer. I can handle $300 a month but when you add another almost 100 bucks on it, I'm not okay. But the ladies came in and I requested them to put a step-in shower in for me and I love it. I got the barn door on and I love that too. It's all been good.

I downsized quite a bit and size-wise, I'm loving the home because it's a lot less to clean-up. I also love my kitchen. I love that little galley style. Then the home has the rest of the floor completely open and I can move my table anywhere I want to, so I’m not constrained. So far, the home's quality has been good, even when we've had some really horrible storms in the last couple of months. We loved the home. The kids are happy. We have just a few flaws with the home, but overall, I'm happy. It’s just some other things should’ve been done to the home. But overall it’s a really good build. My wife needs it to be handicap-accessible, and the home is really not fully equipped to be handicap-accessible. So, in the future, for other disabled clients that wanna get in a home like that, I would suggest that you have a roll-in shower, because that’s one of the problems that we’re having. We don’t have a roll-in shower, and then it takes two people to put my wife in the shower. And then, all of the doors need to be widened. But other than that, everything is okay.

My husband and I started the process of buying In July. All seemed to be going pretty smooth, that is until around the beginning of October. We’d already had our pre-approval so we had be gathering information as needed. We were told in October before our wedding that the house would more than likely be done before or shortly after our honeymoon. Then one thing after another it’s been pushed back. We were told on closing a month ago it would be done by the end of this month. Now it’s sometime in February.
Then the contractor called us out to the property. The driveway and and where they put the septic was put where house should have gone. We were told that this was due to best spot for the septic. As I told them before that would have been fine had someone called us and told us, so now the house is being put at an angle neither one of us wanted due to flat land. And if someone would have called my uncle does that work and would have gladly went out and flattened so we could at least angle the house.
There have been multiple things had we known in advance and even though we’d asked if we’d need anything else could have been done. My kids have been transferred to a new school because they assured us it would be done before the end of this month. And now we are going to have to figure out how to come up with money to stay in a hotel for the next month and a half all while losing money because I’ll have to go in late and leave early. We are very unsatisfied with how things are going and if we could stop the process of this we would. Won’t be coming back here again.

My wife loves the floors, the laundry room, and those kinda hidden in the kitchen. The quality is good for a single wide. The only issue that we have is the strips holding the panels on the wall together would break really easily. So, the only recommendation I have is for the manufacture to find some stronger strips. Other than that, everything is holding up very nice so far. So, we’re very pleased with it.
