Clayton had some of the nicest houses and when I showed up there, people didn't run to me and try to sell me something. They didn't try to push anything on me. There was quite a bit of difficulty involved in the process. When the installers put the home together, I had a lot of roof leaks and it took them a long time to get that problem fixed. They had to call in some help because they couldn't fix it. By the end of it, we had a whole new roof on it. Once they put the new roof on, it was pretty well taken care of. But it took about a month to get to that point. We came from a little bitty 14x60 single wide that the walls were like paper. You can hear every vehicle that came down the highway. But this home is pretty soundproof. That's my favorite quality about it. You can't hear everything that happens outside.
Evan, we're so happy that you found a home to meet your needs! We hope you enjoy your home for years to come!

We came across Clayton online. It was local and it was 40 minutes from my house which made me decide on them. Oscar was my rep and he answered my questions. I bought the home off the lot and it was delivered to my location. The buying process took me about six hours. I did everything and everything else was over the phone. It was quick and easy. Plus, the quality was exactly what I expected.

It was a bad experience all the way around with Clayton Homes. The manager at Clayton made promises that he couldn't keep. He was like, "Oh yeah, don't worry about that. You won't have to make a payment till 30 days after you get into your home." Within my home, I got a phone call from Vanderbilt saying that I was a month behind on my mortgage. When I confronted Carl about it, he was like, "I didn't say that." Pretty much called me a liar to my face. So it was just one thing after another. The house late being put in, and had to make house payments and rent payments at the same time.
Also, none of the doors would shut right. It took two months to get a window fixed that was busted. I've had problems with the air conditioning. None of the cabinet doors are aligned straight. None of the windows sit straight, they're all crooked. It was the worst experience trying to buy a house for the first time that I've ever had. It was terrible from the get-go and I didn't appreciate how people acted and went back on what they said. I wouldn't recommend Clayton Homes to anybody.

The home buying process at Clayton Homes took a little while, but it was okay. It was during the summer and my brother got the trailer around December. Charles was the home consultant we worked with and he was okay. Although sometimes, we had to call him back a couple of times. We called back a couple of weeks ago. The refrigerator comes in the trailer, but my brother was having problems with it. It was leaking. They told us we have to go to the person that they bought their refrigerator from. I've been trying to get in contact with them.
The floors were a little off and we had to call them back a couple of times to get them to adjust the floors. Otherwise, it's okay. But if I had to go back through it again with one of my brothers, I would choose a different trailer. But overall the experience with Clayton Homes was okay. Tiffany, the girl that's in the office, anytime we called her with an issue, she was right there and was on it. She’d get the person to come out and take a look at it. She was very good.
Hi Linda, thank you so much for reaching out and sharing your experience with us! We're glad that the issues with the home were resolved, and we definitely recommend reaching out to the appliance manufacturer regarding your refrigerator.

We were looking for a mobile home and found Clayton Homes. We went to Spartanburg and they were very nice, but then later on the lady, Joyce, said that she didn't say certain things. Then it took several months upon months to get the house out and set up. We finally got it in March. We started in September of last year. Now, they still never came out and hooked up the ice machine. I also still have pipes laid out everywhere. The grating was never done to the yard.
The site manager, Tom, had come by one time, not long after we moved out. He was like, “People will come out and fix it.” One of the contractors hadn't even covered up the water line that he had dug. He finally came out and did that and he was like, “I'll come back and do the other stuff." But they never did. Now I have grass, so I'm like, I’ll just keep it on the yard. It's to the point of I’ll just call somebody and come to fix everything else because I don't want to deal with them. I would never recommend them. But I love the house. It's beautiful and so far, it’s good quality.
Hi Sheena, we're sorry to hear that you have experienced these issues, and we are currently looping in the appropriate parties for support. We appreciate your patience.

Everything with Clayton Homes went very well. I was very happy with the end results. The communication could have been a little better once the deal was signed. I didn't really hear anything from anybody. I'm the one that kept having to initiate phone calls asking what was going on. I know it takes a while to build a trailer, so I didn't push it too much but the communication could have been a little better. Other than that, I was very satisfied.
I was a little rough on the first sales guy that I talked to. He kinda turned it over to his manager. I had a meeting with his manager. Then we kinda worked a deal out together. Richard was the sales guy and Doug was the manager. As far as the home, I'm not too happy with the underpinning. It's like if it was really vinyl siding, it would be a lot thicker. It's almost like an eggshell type material. You can take a rock and throw it and hit it and you'll go right through it with little effort at all. Also, I got one of the first new heaters and we discovered that water was leaking into my vents. It was something that came from the factory that was never connected which is causing the water to drain back into the furnace and down into my vents. They came over and took care of that right away.

Our experience with Clayton Homes was excellent, especially the fact that they were working as hard as they were to get me in that house. Some folks show no initiative in this world. There was a little hurdle that came up. They kept me informed and kept me moving on my end, which was sometimes difficult. Everything was made clear and they made the process easy, which was what I wanted.
I don't think there's anything I don't like about the home. When we went through there and looked at them, we'd looked at several that day and that was the last one we looked at. They had a little bit of furniture in there. My youngest son and I were walking through there, and we plopped down on the couch. We were sitting there talking about, "We like this one." Then it just dawned on me. I was like, "Hey, look around here. This is it right here." He stopped, looked and said, "You know, I think you're right." I love the community too.
James, thank you for sharing your experience with Clayton Homes! We love that your son helped make the decision on the home! Enjoy!

We worked with Greg during the purchasing process at Clayton Homes and he did a good job. He went over the contract with us and then he helped us to pick out exactly what we wanted in there and showed us the videos. Also, whenever I needed something, I called him and he jumped right on it. He was excellent. At first, I didn't think the quality of the home was that good. Then they started doing all the other maintenance, the things that were out of whack, getting lined up. It went okay after they came out doing all the maintenance. Whenever I needed them, as soon as I called them, they came right on out and took care of it.
Clarence, we're so glad that Greg and Clayton Homes made your home buying experience wonderful! Thank you so much for your feedback!

My dad told me about Clayton Homes all when he bought his first camper 30 years ago. They were also the only ones close to me. Their home buying process was easy. They just came and picked the one I wanted and that was it. We also customized the shutters and blinds for the outside and inside. I got to select the color of the outside. Chris, the rep, was nice. He made everything seem like a valid question and he'd answer to the best of his ability, if not, he'd get back to me super fast. He even called me a couple of times to check up, to make sure I'm still doing okay with the house. Super awesome guy. I was comfortable working with him. He made everything seem like it was really easy.

The sales people from Clayton were wonderful. The sales rep was fine. I told him what I wanted. They showed me what they had available because I wanted only a two- bedroom. My wife and I picked out the model and we signed the contract and everything was fine. I paid cash. Now, my warranty work is a different story. It hasn't been really prompt. I called for service on a couple of problems I had. After two months, no one came, so I called the corporate office in Maryville, Tennessee and told them I needed some warranty work done.
They did send some technicians out last Tuesday, and they tried to fix the problem but the problem is not completely fixed. I'm not really satisfied. There's a problem with the vinyl siding. It kinda bulges and sticks out on certain areas on the front of the trailer. There was also a problem with the underpinning on the backside of the trailer. It’s pretty minor and they said they were going to try to fix it and I have not been back over there to check to see if they got that fixed or not. Other than that, I'm satisfied with the home. It's a good product.
Hi John, thank you so much for sharing this feedback with us regarding your purchase process with Clayton Homes. We're sorry you experienced issues with the underpinning of the home, however, service was completed on the siding and skirting on 8/11/2020 and the work order was unable to be signed off by you. I went through financing, and Clayton Homes was the only one that would finance. The sales part was great. They were right on top of everything and they were making sure everything was taken care of. They'll give you what you want and tell you what you wanna hear. But after that, you're on your own. Once we got into the home, I felt I'm being neglected. I've only been in the home for five months, and it's already starting to fall apart. I'm not getting any service. I did get one callback, but they acted like they didn't know what was going on. I haven't been happy with the service after the sale. They lied to us too. They sold us homeowners' insurance that doesn't cover anything in our area because we are in a hurricane zone, and the insurance doesn't cover acts of God. They told us the insurance was good and they kinda sugar-coated everything. When I pulled out my policy, I found that out. So, now I have to go out and buy my own insurance.

I did research on the other places and read reviews. Then after I went there at Clayton Homes, I didn't have any problems because they were very inviting, welcoming and understanding. There was no fakery about it. That means a big difference to me. The rep I talked with all the time was wonderful. He was very thorough and made me feel very comfortable. I made a few changes with the rep's help. I changed all the appliances to stainless steel. They were black. But then, some changes happened as far as backsplash and countertops with a few changes in the color, and we got together on that. So I picked out the different ones I wanted on that. The quality of the home is very good. It's been really hot here and my electric bill is not high.

Clayton Homes is conveniently located for us. They’re on the road that goes to my child's school. We walked in one afternoon and took a tour of a couple of models. We chose the one we wanted, but then that one was not able to be purchased the way we wanted so we had to look at some different options. But the home consultant was able to find us one that fit more of our requirements.
We put the deposit down in April. It took a while to get things going because of this land we were purchasing had some problems, and had to deal with the county which took forever. But we were able to get the house in November. They got it out to the site quickly. However, the weather did not cooperate. We were able to move in the last week of January. So it was a little longer than expected. But there really wasn't anything that was Clayton’s direct issue. They were very helpful when I called to have questions. They were knowledgeable and helped us move things quickly when we could. So overall, it was a very good experience.
We have had some issues as far as items that were done or not done correctly at the factory. But either the factory representative or the Sanford rep have been out to correct and troubleshoot and fix them. There are a few things that are still outstanding, but with the COVID issue and the reduced hours as far as them making in-home visits, that have been delayed, which is understandable.

We looked all around. I wanted a better built home and that’s why I went with Clayton. We were supposed to go to Clayton in Augusta. We ended up buying in Dublin because they had what we were looking for there. Christian, the guy that sold us the house, was excellent. From the time we walked in until the time we left, it was great. We told him what we would do and Clayton did exactly what we asked him. Everything turned out real good. I liked the inside, the sheetrock and mold, and the home didn’t look like a little cracker box. Everywhere we looked, it was just a very cheap mobile home. On the other hand, this one was pretty nice. It was what I was looking for. I had a good experience. I have told several people about Clayton. I have cards that I pass out for people just looking for mobile homes.

Back in 1989, I’d seen Clayton Homes putting a double-wide together in a nice spot. I looked at it and then bought it. The two guys back in ’89 that delivered had brought it. They put plastic down on the ground under the unit before they put blocks under it. This time, they had a bunch of goofballs and about two at work, and there was a lot of stuff they just didn’t do right. Plastic caved under it. I bought plastic but without even piers under it. Hard to see how I'm getting under there.
The finishing guys didn’t do what all they were supposed to. They sent service guys and propped the gable on one end before they left that undone. The service guys did it, it’s popped and coming loose. One of the corners was damaged and they had the corner to put back on it, but they just capped it over the other one, and it didn’t fit right. When they pulled the thing in, I showed them where the septic tank stuff was, and they wound up messing my field line. I had to put in another field line. They sent somebody out to work on it if anything was wrong with it, but it seemed like they were awfully slow. That end gable needs to be fixed. They burst up the corner deal down there and dragged it in. It should be replaced instead of another just capped over it. I got a commode that’s leaking out from underneath the commode or I guess it’s that seal. Clayton is supposed to come back on the 5th, next Wednesday.
Hi Michael, we appreciate you reaching and and taking the time to leave this review. We are going to confirm with the retail location the service schedule, and will make sure they followup with you. Thank you!

I liked Clayton Homes that's why I chose to go that route. But dealing with two of their home offices to get it started didn't go good. I was in limbo and going through a long process for several months for no reason. I had poor sales reps that I was dealing with at that time and it seemed like they were trying to work more for what they could get commission off in their pockets instead of helping me as a customer to get me in my home and get it done. It was an agonizing wait because I was homeless getting this process done. I told the employee there at the home center that the house that I was renting got sold because they knew that I was gonna move forward instead of buying it. I had got to move out so we were trying to get everything done in a timely manner. It went on to where it stretched and stretched and stretched for a long period of time because they were trying to be greedier and selfish about how much money they were gonna get out of the deal.
It finally snapped and came to me. My lender said we were ready to close but Clayton Homes couldn't get their numbers right. They were trying to charge separately for a lot of different things that were included in the package of when you buy a Clayton home. That was why I switched and went to the Georgetown, Indiana office. When I cancelled that home office and called them, I said, “I gave you all $1,000 deposit and I really didn't have to." It was like an earnest deposit. I was told by the home center’s manager that I was not getting that back. They did this and that. I told them they didn't do anything. The head corporate contacted them and let them know they owed me that refund because they did not use my money to do anything for nothing.
But when I transitioned and started using the Georgetown, Indiana home office, they got everything moving on the ball way better instead of me being in limbo and waiting. I called and asked if they could give me a simple answer. From there, they were honest and very helpful. They got the numbers right for the prices of everything to submit to the lender so we could go ahead, do the final closing and get everything done out of the way so I can move into my home. I'm still grateful to this day because I was living in hotels and I paid storage for a whole year.
The home is beautiful. I love my kitchen. I've always wanted a kitchen the way my kitchen is. As far as cost, it may have been the same if I would've had a house built. It’s got almost the same quality to me. But I'm satisfied with the house. I definitely would recommend anyone to go to the Georgetown, Indiana home office to get their Clayton home done.

Clayton Homes had the best plans, houses and financing. My daughter also bought a home with them. The openness of the layout and the ability to be able to modify it to meet my needs really stand out to me. It has been a long process for me and I still have a few things that have to be completed. Everything would have gone super smooth but COVID held that up as far as getting it out here. There was a lot of stuff that seemed like we had to do that Clayton should've done. My wife was on the phone every day for about three months straight trying to get everything lined up and I'm still waiting on some repairs from the factory but Clayton Homes is doing good. The trailer was damaged during transport and it’s probably the reason they’ve messed it up a little bit. It seemed like the dealer to factory communication is a little lost but they tried to do the best they could with what information they were getting from the factory.
I still got soft spots on my floor and squeaky floors. So, I’m not happy right now.. The first set of guys who came to repair it had no idea what they were doing. They had to redo all the linoleum in the living room and kitchen. They also put my sink downspout in sideways. It was almost at a 45 instead of a straight up and now, it has leaked under my sink. Some of the damage they did, being that they were only going through the floor, they said the factory would only do the floor one time. Some of it where they tried to hide their damage had made it to where the next guys couldn't fix it properly because they used the wrong stuff to try to fix it.

I like the guy that walked me through the homes and the prices. We liked everything that we picked. We're happy with the home. The quality is really good. We've been very happy with the quality of the home itself. But there was a lot of false promises made as far as when things were gonna get done on time. It was all delayed. Some of the pieces to the house got ran over while they were in your yard. So those had to be reordered. Also, there were some things that needed to be fixed on the home.
When the house was several months behind schedule, I was told by the salesman that we've been working with the whole time that they were gonna make the first payment to make up for it. It wasn't until I got a call 30 days after that first payment was due and Vanderbilt was calling me that they told me that I was 30 days late. That was a punch on my credit. So I called Roy, the manager, and asked him why they didn't do what they said. He said, "Well, I don't pay for customer's loans. That doesn't happen like that." I told hem that he shouldn't have told me that. It went against me. He said, "Whenever they call to get a rating on me, you're gonna give me a 10 and I'll make your first payment." I agreed to it and he made the first payment. He pretty much blackmailed me into giving him a 10. I didn't like him.

The Clayton Homes rep was fine but there were a couple of little things that we were gonna try to do everything in the loan and were underestimated on some stuff, but it was not something I'd get worried about. But there were some issues with the manufacturing like one of the walls was crooked. You couldn't fix it unless you take the whole wall out. There was a spot in one of the bedrooms where there was the bottom of the wall starts out straight but once you'd get about a foot to 18 inches from the floor, the one wall was bent in about three inches. So the bottom two by four that those studs were going into was warped. Then there was some spackle on the ceilings that wasn't textured at all. You could still see the taping there. They brought someone out for all that stuff but they couldn't fix that deal on the wall. Everything else, they patched up everything and cleaned it up. They did great. We've been very happy.

My daughter, my son-in-law, and I were buying a home together. When we found that we didn't feel like we could afford a site-built home, we started thinking out of the box and thought about a manufactured home. We looked and verified there was a property we could afford to buy. We started looking at all manufactured homes. There was Solitaire in Roswell and we went there. There were some manufactured home dealers in Hobbs, New Mexico and we went there too. I also knew that Clayton was in Carlsbad and we went there.
We started looking a year prior to what we knew when we would be needing it because we wanted to be able to have a chance to look at everything. When my daughter and I went to Clayton that very first time, I was upfront with them saying we were not ready to buy for at least a year but we wanted to find out what they have and what they look like. They brought us into the office, put us in a little room, sat us down, asked us a few questions which we answered, showed us a little short video, and gave us pamphlets.
The salesperson who was a very young lady said, “When you're ready to come to buy, just come back and see us.” She didn’t even offer to show us a home. That really pissed me off. That's not customer service. As we drove away, I told my daughter we were not going back there. We went to Solitaire several times. We went to Hobbs a couple of times then we went to Clayton Homes in Odessa. I expressed to them my experience with Carlsbad and the lady that was there. She explained to me that they would love to sell us the home, however, she wanted us to be aware that there was gonna be a lot of red tape because of crossing state lines.
She answered all of our questions. She was willing to take us and show us a home. However, we picked the wrong day. It was raining that day and when we got there, it had stopped raining. By the time we finished what we were doing on the inside and she was going to take us to show us a home, it started pouring rain. We didn't want to go trampling and taking mud or anything in the home. At that point also, I looked at the time, and I still had to be back home to go to work. We needed to leave fairly soon so I didn't have time to sit and wait for it to stop raining. She encouraged me to try and go back to Clayton in Carlsbad so we did. This time we got a gentleman and he did the same things, but this time, he took us and showed us two or three houses.
My daughter, my son-in-law, and I ended up choosing Solitaire. The problem was that before we got that decision relayed to them, they had sold off the lot. They told us it was gonna take at least four months or a lot more before they would get another one of those homes in. We couldn't wait that long so after that, we went and looked again at Hobbs and Clayton. We found one in Hobbs that we liked the best. We went with it and were going through all the process. The loan company got back to us in terms of what the mortgage would be. We had told them we needed the mortgage to be less than $1,000. Once we found out that was $1,200 for a month, we went back to Clayton again, looking at the one that we bought, and we decided on it.
However, we made the decision in February and we didn’t sign the papers until August. We weren’t even able to move into the home until November. We easily could have waited out Solitaire and got the one that we wanted. It had more room for me and what I wanted it for. It's a better-built home. Having lived in our home for 6 months, the quality of what we got with Clayton is okay but I can't say that it's great. But I like that it's a brand new home. I shouldn't have to worry about anything breaking down and going bad.
We paid over $50,000 on it but my bathtub did not have a stopper in it. There's trim work that is loose all over the house. There should have been a transition strip from the living room carpet into the dining room linoleum and there’s not. Going from my bedroom into my bathroom, there's a cut strip and it looks like crap. I have contacted Clayton several times for this. I have provided them pictures. We ended up with black mold in my daughter's bedroom within a couple of months of moving in, and it was because my son-in-law had to take the wall panel down. It was the back of their shower which faced their room, and it was leaking. When I showed them the pictures on that, they did get somebody out here immediately. They did get that resolved, but they’ve never addressed the rest of our issues. On top of that, we have our front window which are two windows side by side. One swings, one does not.

Carl, the Clayton Homes manager, did great. I needed some help on the stairs. He made that arrangement. He made sure the information I needed and my questions were answered timely. He got the extra work. The sales lady that I had quit. So instead of putting me over to another salesperson, he stepped up and did it, which for a general manager, that's good. I like the spaciousness of my home's rooms. My wife loves the island in the kitchen. I feel good about the community.
Thank you so much, Steven! We really appreciate the kind words, and your feedback!

We liked the experience with the salespeople. A lot of the other Clayton Homes that we went to, the salespeople followed you around saying, “We wanna know what kinda money do you want to spend? What kinda payment are you looking to be in?” I don't like that. But over at Johnson City, they didn't do that. People know what they can afford to buy. When we looked, they said, “You go out, take a look. You see something you like, come back in, let us know and we'll talk about it.” We got what was already there because I liked what I saw and it was done the way I wanted it. I also liked the colors. The quality was decent. They were better than a lot of the others.
Our biggest struggle was we bought late in the year and the weather held us up from getting it. It took us about three months to be able to get in and get it moved here. We've officially moved in here in January and there's still a lot of things that need to be done and it seems like feet are getting dragged. There's some discrepancies with the people at Clayton on as to when to do things and when not to do things. There's a vapor barrier that has to go underneath the home and there's still some discrepancies on that. We still haven't gotten that done. Some of the people at Clayton say that it should’ve been done already. The manager at Johnson City told us that we gotta get our underpinning put up first. But that's kinda like putting the horse behind the cart. It seems like it would be something that would be harder to do with the underpinning up because they have to go under the house to do it.
We finally got our front door replaced yesterday. The door was messed up on the lot, which is understandable because they told us that people would go in and look at the homes and not close the doors and the wind would blow and catch them and warp them. They worked on the door twice before they decided to replace it. They put a bunch of shims in and it was so funny when the guys took the door out yesterday. About 50 shims fell in the floor. The guy said it was crazy. But when they replaced the storm door, they didn't send the door handle for it. But the guys were really nice about it. They even went to town and bought one and brought it back. But it wouldn’t fit and the guy said that’s because a lot of mobile home things are made where you have to go back to a mobile home manufacturer to get stuff. So he just pieced together what was on the old door.
When they worked on the door, my door handle was actually two different colors. The guys that was here yesterday tried to make things right. I've got four mini blinds that needed to be replaced and they brought out blinds and it had my name on the box. When they opened them up, they were the wrong size. It took them three tries before they finally got the right screens to put back in my home because there were screens missing and there were some that were messed up on the home when I bought it. They finally got them squared away a couple of months ago.
When the guys were here yesterday, they said that they would go back and let them know that the wrong blinds was sent out but I have no clue how long I have to wait for new blinds because it took me forever to get them. Also, I had to have the blinds replaced on my sliding glass door. The blinds fall off of it all the time. I had the guy put them back on yesterday. Now, this blind has only been up for a month and a half but it was messed up when the boy put it up. The boy said that he was gonna tell them that it wasn't right. Apparently there are some clips inside of it that were broke off.
I'm still waiting to hear about my bathtub in my master bath. When they brought the home out, I had to go through and clean everything before I could even move stuff in. When I was cleaning all the dust and fills out of the bathtub, I noticed that there was a puncture hole in it. I talked to somebody at Jiles about a month ago and I'm still waiting to hear about that. It seems like if you talk to one person then it's like everybody tries to make good with everything. But it seems like there isn't a chief at the helm that takes responsibility to try to correct things. The people that came out here to work on stuff have been great.

The sales guy was very explanatory and kept me informed on pretty much anything I was asking. Dylan did an excellent job as far as communicating. But his bossman wasn't relaying messages to him or anybody else. As far as their communication with the upper management, it was very poor. Dealing with his bossman, Ricky, they would leave people in the dark after we sat there and communicated in person in the office about stuff. Ricky didn't let me know nothing. We are 10 minutes away for the the house that we were moving to. We would drive out there periodically to see different phases of the construction of the home. I had explained to Ricky as clear as day that I would like to be notified as to how their steps and procedures are going. My wife and I had a plan to make a photo album from the time it got cleared and for every step of the construction. But I wasn't informed on any of that besides for us just riding by there, being nosy and to see how far along things were going.
For first-time homeowners like us, we were both eager to see how everything was rolling. I work in construction so I already know the fundamentals of everything that goes on. But dealing with that individual, I was left in the dark, and the only light that was given was me driving out there seeing everything. But I love the home. The quality seems pretty good. I went from renting a little house probably half the size I'm living in now. I've seen my light bill drop significantly. I was paying $300 a month for my light bill in the middle of the summer for air conditioning trying to keep that little bitty house cool, and then now, I only pay $120 a month for a light bill and the air conditioner runs 24/7. So it’s a big difference.
We had moved in a week before Thanksgiving and ended up hosting Thanksgiving at our house. My favorite part is the kitchen. Growing up as a child to my adulthood, I've always lived in a house or home trailer where it had a small kitchen and you could only have one or two people in there. But where I'm at now, you can have 10 people in the kitchen and you barely start feeling congested. There’s so much space to move around the big island.
Hi Juan, thank you so much for reaching out and sharing this feedback. We take communication with our customers very seriously, and we apologize that you didn't have the best experience with that. We are so happy that you love the home! It's awesome that you can host large family gatherings, and that your light bill is cut! We hope you have many more Thanksgivings in your home!

Never did we ever do business with a company like this, they take absolutely no pride in hiring qualified subcontractors, we feel like we're in a nightmare from hell. Our land has been destroyed by tree demolition, house is being put back together sloppy, our siding is all lumpy and dented and mismatched color, everyone hired to come out starts and never comes back to finish, house was on sale at the lot they pulled it from and they charged us full price. We were offered with all furniture, then during construction they breached our trust and took out dining room set, they snuck it off the property in a trailer by one of the subcontractors, on top of all the horrible work we were told by the sub contractor that took the dining room set they were told to rush it and get us in and after were in we can file claims, when these people are on the job site and should be doing it right the first time, no work ethic at all.
Now because we won't let them walk all over us, we've been threatened two times by GM and his subcontractor to have worked stopped. We were also promised well would be in first because we closed on our other home in June 2020 and were living in a camper, no water yet after a month, we've had workers tell us they'll be here and we wait and they're no shows no call, no professionalism at all. The GM, has been bad-mouthing my husband to his subcontractors just because we're upset at all the issues were having.
No one buying a home should ever have to go thru any of what we've had to. The only ones that did good work so far was HVAC, and electrician. They actually showed up when they said and on time and finished early. July 19th 2020 We're still not in the home. We're living on the property with no water, we use gallons of water daily and a generator, we go to hotels for full showers. 150k house we're paying insurance on and were living like squatters. We contacted Clayton corporate and it was like I was talking and no one was really listening.

The salesperson was a really good guy. We enjoyed him a lot. We've almost had this house for a year now. He's been good as far as checking up on us and how we are liking the home. But we still have stuff that's not finished in this house. It's a whole saga. We got it delivered and they tried to put the old trim back in. It was terrible. So we called them and told them about it. Then we had some floor issues, where the floor was coming up. All they did was glue it down. We also had the sink issue where the sink was mounted too far back. Anytime that you turned it on, it would hit the back of the sink and water was going everywhere. They said they would replace the counter.
When they came over here, they just patched and moved it forward. They didn't replace the counter. We had a rusty window that they replaced but they didn't replace the outside vinyl. You can see that it still has the rust. I went and bought a trim gun and an air compressor to start fixing the trim because they still haven't been back out here to fix it. The trim is fine now because I fixed it. But it was coming apart.
We've had an issue with the paint on the roof. There was a big crack there and they came out here and fixed it but they said we wouldn't be able to see it anymore and that they patched it. But clearly, there's a big line on the ceiling. Then the lights above the island have paint splotches on them. So a lot of the trim has paint splotches. Our bedroom door doesn't stay open. It swings. When we told them about that, they just left new hinges with us. They didn't put new hinges on it for us. The tech said, “Well, let's just see if it does that again.”
Our front door is bent. You can see daylight in the front door. The bathroom door trim is the wrong size trim. There's a half inch gap in the trim. I tried to fix that this morning with the trim gun and I can't fix it because it’s just bowed out. It’s the fat trim, so when you try and close the door, your hand hits the trim before you could even close the door. There's a lot of problems. This house was put together poorly. Some of the spots in the floor has sunk that I can run my foot over and I can hear it hit the board. They told us that this was a brand new house and it's been sitting in a lot since 2018. So it was a brand new house that no one has lived in, but it's been sitting there.
Some of the trims in the house are too short. They didn’t cut it to the right size but it was close enough so they just left it. The cabinets still have pencil marks where they were measuring, and then where the corners meet on top of the cabinets, they cut it too long and it's pushed out. You could see cracks in the top of the trim of the cabinet. Then one of our cabinet doors on the islands just fell off. The drawers completely fall out and then you can see a big crack where the island splits.
Anytime that I talked to them, they said, “Okay, we'll set up another time to come and do it.” It would be a different guy pretty much every time. Then when they come out here, they find something new and say, “Okay, we'll just order that and then we'll be back out here.” And then it never gets done. So I paid $114,000 for this house and that's supposed to last me 20 years. But I haven't even been living in it for a year and it's falling apart. I'm kind of stuck because there's nothing I can do about it, I already bought the house. I’ve followed up too many times. I’m tired of following up.

No one told me what those were so I didn't know that we needed to get that. But overall, it's a good starter home. We're loving it.

I had a good experience and a bad experience at the same time. The in-between was not good, but it was all made right so I’m happy. When we were purchasing the home, Clayton Homes' general manager at the store here in San Angelo and the salesperson were both amazing. In the middle of us buying a home, they both got transferred to Amarillo, Texas. With the new people that came in, the experience turned into a nightmare. What I had to do was to call those people back in Amarillo and get them re-involved. They straightened everything out for me. They made me happy. My ultimate experience was good, and I'm very happy with my home. It's well-built and well-insulated. We have it as a second home at our lake property. Everything has worked great. With the AC, the house stays cool in all the rooms. We love everything about the home.
Hi Bryan, we're so happy that you love your new lake home! We apologize that things did not go 100% smoothly for you, but we're grateful that our teams were able to turn this experience around for you! We truly valur you as a customer!

Robert was a fine salesman, but then at the end, there were some issues with him. I'm not sure if they let him go or if he quit voluntarily. At the time, from the start until I got the house, everything went great. Any question I had was answered, and a couple of things I wanted changed in the house were done successfully. Everything was in good shape. I was very happy with the house. However, I'm not happy about the location. If I knew it was would be like this I would've chosen a different place. The lot itself is nothing but rock. I have so many rocks in my yard. And then, the whole location is in an HOA community but they don't do what I think a HOA is supposed to do as far as keeping the community looking good. If I could, I would move the house to a different location, but that's not possible now. I'm just trying to make best of it over here for now.
I'm just by myself so I didn't really need a dishwasher. Otherwise, if I had one, I would have to stack the dishes for a week at a time. I would've rather wanted a cabinet covered in that spot and they did that. They took the washer and our dishwasher out and put a cabinet in the space in that area. I was very pleased with that. Also, the homes now, they come with the solid glass door for the front door. I didn't want that. I wanted a combination door so they changed that out for me also.
Everybody there at Clayton that I've talked to has been very helpful. You go in there and they speak to you right away and see what you need or ask, "Do you have any questions?". If I ever have any questions or call up there for something, Jay is the one I talk to now. He handled everything. Every question I had, he could answer it. Or if he didn't know it at the time, he would find it out and get back to me.
Initially, when I was first looking at the homes and deciding what I wanted, I had to put a deposit down on one to hold it then. And then, I was told by Robert that the downpayment had to be separate from that. Then when everything was done I would be refunded that $500. When it was all said and done, Robert was gone already and nobody knew about the deposit. But when I was working with Jay, he found everything out and I had the deposit back within seven days. He really did good so I told him that the survey would come out real good for me and I would recommend anybody to go to Clayton. I told Jay about this area and that if knew it would be like this, I would've chosen a different place. He told me I could always sell it and come and pick out another house or pick out the same one as I have. I love the house. It's gorgeous. I told him I might think about that if I get too disgusted with this area.

Clayton's salesperson was good at telling a lot of lies about how the process was gonna go, what was gonna happen, when it was gonna happen, what's included and what's not included. Nothing he told us was fact. So, we're very disappointed with our whole experience. A week after we signed papers, the salesperson was transferred to Tulsa. He got some kind of promotion. The first couple of times we called him, he called us back and talked to us about stuff, and then after that, he completely ignored us. He never answered another phone call and never returned a phone call. We ended up having to deal with April. We just have to talk to them to try to go through the rest of the process. It was very frustrating.
Clayton delivered a different home than what we applied for. So, the exterior was a different color. It's still nice. We didn't object to it. But they kept it locked, so we couldn’t go in until they were done setting up. Then we went in and everything on the inside was a different color than the scheme we had picked out. All the countertops were supposed to be black, but they were all brown. The wall color was different. The built-in cabinet doors were all a much lighter color than on the one we looked at.
They didn't wanna change the home. They didn't wanna come back out and get it and bring another one. They offered to build like 4x4, landings at the front door, and they said that they upgraded the skirting but the skirting that we talked about with our sales rep is not what they initially put on it. They put the really cheap vinyl stuff and we had asked for the cement board. So, they counted that as part of the upgrade for their error. We had already lived in our camper for a long time. There are three of us plus five dogs. Everybody's nerves were frayed, and we were so irritated at that point that we just said, “Screw it. We’ll just make do with what we have. Let's just get it done and got it over with.”
Hi Wanda, we appreciate you reaching out and sharing your feedback with us. The lot model you first saw on the lot was a 2018 model and those colors had since been discontinued. So to start we had a pretty good experience with the sales man and it went down from there. We were charged for a lot of things extra but the main thing is the property it is a mess still and we are in the house for over three months and it’s looking like it going to cost us double because we are going to have to hire someone to do the work. The trailer was set in wrong to start with but I walked the house and said it was ok but that’s where I made my first mistake. They set it so far up from where it should have been I have no front yard. It’s all hill and once we build a porch there won’t be any yard at all.
I have had nothing but a big run around with Clayton Homes in Chillicothe. I’ve had three knee surgeries and I can’t even walk to property and we have already had to buy a new blade for lawnmower. We can only use a push mower. The yard is like you're hiking in the forest maybe even worse. I just don’t understand how we can be made to have to hire someone else when we paid for the yard work once already. There’s so much more I can say but not trying to write a book. We were deciding whether we were gonna build or put a manufactured home up. My credit was good enough and I didn't have to put my property up so we shopped around and came up with Clayton at that spot over there on Memorial or Mango. I liked that Kyle, the rep, gave me the key and told me to look instead of harping on me. When I was done, he asked what I thought and which one I liked. It was hard to make a decision but I had to go with the price. Clayton did a good job and the people we dealt with were awesome. Everything you called about, Sarah got on it.
The home was sold as is and everything that was in it stayed in it. It’s a manufactured home and there are a few flaws in there but whenever I called about a problem, they sent somebody right out and fixed everything. When the house was moved, it had a tight fit where it was going so some things got damaged in the process. They sent people out and they wouldn't even let us in there until everything was fixed.

I thought that Clayton Homes was reliable and I found what I was looking for with them. I communicated with them by email and phone and those were fine options. The consultant I worked with was great and dandy prior to signing the papers, but after that, I got reluctant help from anybody. Also, the quality of the home was rubbish initially. I had three out of the four appliances that would not work and my waterline had a nail hole shot through it during the build. It was so dirty that even after I had lived here for two months, I told them that the place where the hot water tank is needed to be cleaned up. Clayton local set someone out here to clean it up but he didn't do it.
Aside from that, the dishwasher was not hooked up to water and the microwave had a pinched wire. They came out and fixed it but they didn't change the wire. It still didn't work and I feared that it would set my house on fire. They finally came back, put it in a new microwave, and took out the one with the pinched wire. Then, my microwave worked. But it had been a nightmare and those are dumb workmanship stuff. I also had a storm door that was messed up. It was among the first things that I reported and it was the last thing that was fixed. Initially, they sent someone to fix it and he did something to it but made something else go bad.
That was the way their work was. They would fix one thing, then they would cause something else that causes something else to fall out of kilter. But they have done a lot of work and they've almost rebuilt the house since I've had it here. They got everything fixed now, except for one. I asked for compensation for the wrong bath shower that they installed and they didn't ever mention that. So, I felt like they should pay me for something that was wrong but couldn't be fixed because it hurts the resale value.

I knew they had a new service manager and wanted to make sure that she knew everything. Contacted corporate. Finally got the smoke detector fixed after 18 months!
Just received a phone call. They will provide some of the parts but we will have to pay someone to come out and fix it. They are not honoring their warranty and this is stuff they have known about since our house was delivered! Clayton damaged our countertop during delivery and replaced it. They drilled through the countertop when installing. They are now not fixing it.
Anytime we get a good rain my hood vent leaks. Not being fixed. Cracks in my ceiling they “fixed” now looks worse than it did. Not being fixed. Siding has been falling off for almost a year. My uncle purchased a home from them after me and had to replace his roof among other things because they wouldn’t fix it even though his house was under warranty!

We strive to provide a world-class customer experience to everyone through the joy of owning their own, beautiful home. The home center you worked with has visited your home numerous times while under warranty to repair items. As stated by their team as well as Corporate, with the home being over 7 months out of warranty, we are willing to offer the parts free of charge, but will not be providing any repair service. We feel we have gone above and beyond to make sure that you all as our customers are happy, and we have explained that these items would be considered home-owner maintenance.

My parents bought a home from Clayton and since they were the most willing to work with me on my down payment, I also went with them. The process was pretty streamlined and they made it pretty easy. The best thing for me is I put in for it one day, then they called me a couple of days later telling me that I was approved and I just got to pick my house. I picked the one I wanted and it was already in the park. Then, I put in a new rack in the master closet and installed black iron pipe instead of the little wire racking that was up.
The home buying process for a mobile home is a little different than for a regular mortgage and Clayton's rep explained things well. The home that I bought from Clayton was new and that also makes a difference. I didn't have to go through an inspection like you would on a home and I didn't have to drive all over town looking at houses. I was able to go to one spot and look at the home that I wanted. The virtual tours on their website are awesome because you can see it all and that makes it easier for a person to decide whether they want to look at the house or not. Plus, you're getting a brand new home so any blemishes at all will be fixed and they've been great about that. Any issue I've had, there had been no delay in getting it fixed. So that's been great.
All in all, I had a good and painless experience with Clayton. The quality of the home is less than desirable but I knew this going into it because my parents have a Clayton home. Everything's so fragile. You bump into a counter and the laminate rips the edge of the counter off. I've already got to have them come out and redo the floor as well as the closet because the nails are starting to rip through the floor. It's just poor quality as opposed to some of the other homes. I know other people that have homes through Trading Post and they're much better quality. But you get a much higher price tag with them, so you get what you pay for.

I went through a good home buying process at Clayton when I got my lot model from them. However, it took them so long to get my air conditioner. They kept putting me off and I lived in my house for at least three months with no AC. They said they sent my request over to the AC people. When I called the AC people, they said they never got it. Still, Clayton's reps got to me as soon as possible.

When we went to Las Cruces where the rep originally was, she told us, whatever we wanted, we can get. That was why we went with Clayton. The overall purchase process was great. However, right now, we're not feeling too good about the quality because we have to get the inspector to come out and look at it. There are a lot of things that need to be finished. They came the other day but brought the wrong paint. So, they have to come back. But overall, they're a great company.

The Clayton reps whom I worked with were professional and knowledgeable. They broke the home purchase down and showed a slideshow of what we'd be paying them. They told me how long I would be paying and what would be going into our contract. So far, the home we bought has been great. However, the process of getting the home set up perfectly has not been that good because they haven't been really hands-on with coming out and fixing stuff they're supposed to fix. When the home was moved, it got cracks in it and they said they were coming to fix that. Plus, some of the wall plugs didn't work when the home got set up. Those still don't work yet. Clayton says they're backed up. When their techs come out to our place, the plugs would work for a day or two then do the same thing.

Over at Oakwood Homes, they were fantastic. I also love that the house is bigger and I love that it has air conditioning. For a house over $100,000 though, you'd expect it to not start falling apart right off the bat. With the amount of breaks, I don’t like that we keep having to have somebody come out for repairs. The kitchen faucet handle kept falling off and we lost some aluminum siding. The door frames still weren’t put in right too. In fact, we’re still having some trouble with certain door frames. However, when I need stuff fixed, they take care of fixing the problem and they do a great job. They were able to come out, except for the pandemic. We couldn’t do that during the quarantine. Overall, we still like the house. We enjoy it and we love that there’s no carpet. They listened to everything we asked for that we got.

The rep I purchased my home from at Clayton was very easy to talk to and was very helpful. So far, my favorite thing about it is that it's custom-built. We downgraded it to a Farmhouse Flex. For the main bath, I told the builders to leave the bathtub out and put one big shower in. They did that and put some shelves where the other shower would have gone. In the laundry room though, the door opens to the inside and I would rather have it coming out. Currently, when I open the door to the inside, the space is so small that I'm almost bumping everything going in.
Plus, the dryer plugin is stuck five inches from the wall so I can't set the dryer back against the wall. If the dryer is pushed as far as it would go, the vent would still be halfway to the side of the dryer such that I have to take my vent hose and run it around. This can be changed but I have to run the hose in a crooked way and that takes up space also. If the vent and the plugin were on the back wall, there would be no problem.

I went over to Clayton Homes and picked a couple houses that I liked. Then I took my wife over there but I took her on a bad day. She wasn't feeling good and she didn't like any of the houses. So we went back when she started feeling better and she picked out the house we’re in now, which was my first choice anyway. It's just nice to be able to come home and sit down. My wife has a nice kitchen to work in with great storage, cabinet space and counter space. We just really like it. We like everything about our new home.
However, I noticed that in the subdivision where we used to live, Clayton went and bought a lot themselves. I guess somebody had bought a house and put it in there and that thing was set up, tied down, power run, water run, and ready to be moved in to in about six weeks. On the other hand, it took us about four and a half months to move. When we went over to Clayton and picked out the house we wanted, we gave the consultant a right good-sized down payment and they got the house over here after we did all the paperwork. We paid them the remainder on the house but the house sat here from the middle of November until January before they ever did anything substantial to get the house ready. We didn't get to move in the house until March. But since then, every time I've needed Clayton to come over here, they just jump all over it. So overall, we're pretty happy with them.
Also, the thing I like the best is the heat and air conditioner. Where we lived before for almost 15 years, we never had heat in the winter or air conditioning in the summer. We had to cool one room, like the living room and the bedroom, with window units and then heat it with an electric baseboard heater or the little small electric heaters. But today, with 90 something degrees out, I walked into a 72-degree house and it's so nice to know that.

My friends were living at a manufactured home and they said that they were happy with it. I also called a few people who were eligible via construction and therefore may not appreciate Clayton, but manufactured homes are different than they used to be. Clayton's homes had better floor plans, too. When we went in, we saw something that looked appealing then we talked about it and made our decision to go with Clayton. The home buying process went really well and they were very easy to work with. They checked all the boxes and covered all the bases.
The person who assisted us at the time was very good and was not high pressure. She gave us plenty of time to look around and think about it. Plus, she addressed any question we had. It was a really good experience overall, but the quality of the home isn't the best. We’re still having people come out and COVID kind of caused a problem. We moved in in February, then COVID hit in March. Now, we're just getting back to whatever thing that they've seen that was an issue that they've tried to resolve.

In the master, we had the big walk-in shower that we got along with the closet that was not attached to the bathroom. Everything was about like we expected. We, however, had a water leak when they hooked that up in the bathroom at the end of the trailer. But, everything else seemed to be fine.

She didn't try to sell us anything extra, so it was good. We like all of our home. It is nice to call something ours -- we have been renting for a while and we decided we pay as much as we paid in rent and that we can get a house.
However, most of the people they get out are contractors and they did not clean up after themselves very well. They would get here at 10 o'clock in the morning to do something simple and wouldn’t leave until 9 o'clock at night. And then, they spent two days here like that, and then went back and told Clayton Homes that everything was finished. There was like insulation hanging out and the boards from shipping that hold the plastic bound and it was still on the house. There were a lot of stuff that they didn't do for the amount of time that they were here. They were also supposed to come back and do some more things but they haven't. We were looking for a four-bedroom, three-bath with a master on one side and the other three bedrooms and two baths on the other. We also wanted two separate living areas, and Clayton Homes had the floor plan that we liked. The sale with the salesperson was good. Her name was Tammy and she was a great salesperson. We were told things that they’re really doing, but it wasn’t a killed-the-deal kind of deal, so we just moved forward and disappointed, but thought, “Well, we can live without that. We’ll just move forward.” We were on a time constraint.
After the sales, their customer service was absolutely horrible. On the setup of the mobile home, they’re supposed to send a crew out to get the home set up and ready to move in, and they sent a crew out that did not know what they were doing. They tore up more than they fixed. Then we were told that a professional cleaning crew was gonna come clean it before we move in. The crew didn’t know what they were doing.
We made multiple phone calls to the manager at the local Clayton Homes where we purchased, and he told us that he had full confidence in these people and that they knew what they were doing even though we told him multiple times that they did not know what they were doing. They were supposed to do what he told us would take a week. They took three weeks and then still didn’t have it done right. I wound up having to call a vice president who stepped in and got things done finally.
The customer service was really not up there at all. The phone calls that we made with our concerns were kinda brushed off. We purchased the home for our son and daughter-in-law. I told the manager multiple times, “I’m a real estate broker, I work with contractors all the time, I can tell you these guys don’t know what they’re doing.” Then, their professional cleaning crew consisted of one of the guys who they hired to put the mobile home back together. Prior to just moving in, his wife came over with a vacuum cleaner that was about 40 years old and vacuumed, and that was it. From what they did, there were nails everywhere. It was horrible. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had by anything ever.
Finally, the vice president that I spoke with got someone out of the nether city to come in and they fixed everything. Then he told me if I could find somebody to clean it, that they would pay, and then they did, and we finally got moved into it. But it was a month after we were supposed to have been moved into it. I would never recommend them.

I selected Clayton because they were in Sacramento and I wanted somebody that was almost local. There were three other builders there. But when I went in there and looked around, Clayton seemed to be a cleaner office. The general manager was very attentive at the time, and very helpful. And so, we looked at that and then we went and looked at some of the other coach places. Then we decided this is what we wanted.
We didn't know for sure what kind of coach we wanted because we had to pick something very specific for our unique circumstances. But he said we could do whatever we wanted. I come from a place where custom home is very realistic. So, when he said he could custom make my coach, that interested me a lot also. I could design it the way I wanted it.
Customizations that I made is cut the floorplan so that the door was on the driver's side. Because of my unique situation, I had to put the kitchen over here and the bedroom was in the back but I made it a little bit larger because it didn't seem large enough. And then the other things, I added ceiling fans, plugs all around the place. I put a gas stove in and other electrical. Clayton gave us a choice, a selection of carpets and linoleum. When we got all done, when we put in more custom things, we had electric readjusted some more, we did some other stuff. Everything worked out very well.
One of the things I did not like is that I learned when I built my custom home is when I wanted to change something, it was not a problem to change it. All it takes is money. It doesn't cost a lot of money because they were still at the building stage. But once I signed the paperwork, this is what I'm stuck with. One is n that I should have put some plugs up in the eaves because Christmas lights go up there. However, they can't do that now since I already signed off on it. I was able to change the porch from 6 feet to 10 feet. And the reason that's important is because 6 feet isn't big enough, and I had the room for 10 feet. But it was 6 feet on the original plan and the very next day I changed it.
When we did a tour through the place, it still had a 6-foot porch on it, instead of a 10-foot porch. I was able to make the change that the same day but if it had been two days later, it would have been a problem. So, in that respect, I don't like the non-flexibility. Their sales rep was not very good. Once I signed the paperwork, getting him to return phone calls, getting him to do anything, is like he moved on with life He gave me to a customer service girl named Julie. She did anything and everything as soon as I asked for it. She returned my calls and did what she could do.

The buying experience was great. We signed on a Tuesday and the home was delivered on a Thursday. Everything went so fast. However we’re having issues with after the sale service of Clayton. We’re still fighting to have the concrete work completed by the contractors. We had a conversation with the manager of Clayton Homes yesterday. They were supposed to show up again yesterday but nobody showed. They are supposed to show up tomorrow, so we’ll see what happens there.
We dealt with a lot of water freezing this winter but thank goodness, the pipes didn’t burst, but that was a real concern. We also have issues with the maintenance of things that got broken when the home was delivered. We’re having issues finding the right parts to fix it correctly. It's been a nightmare. Everything inside the home is great. But when the home was moved, some of the light fixtures fell out of the kitchen ceiling. It took them a few months to put one back. It’s a different kind. It’s not like I could go to Walmart and buy one and we had to deal with that.
When they cam back to replace the bulb it doesn’t match the rest, and we’re still trying to get some to match. The guy that comes to the home to do their maintenance said he will just bring four that will match. But when he came back he said he tried to order. Another issue is that we had to have the door replaced on the front door. We had to wait until for about two weeks ago before that got put on. We’re still trying to have several pieces of the siding replaced. Some of it was busted up pretty good. There was also a hole in the ceiling over the shower. They fixed that. We have been in this home since November. But anything that we need to do outside, we can’t do because the concrete underpinning is not completed. It’s putting a hold on our landscaping and on our sidewalks.

The reps never really tried to force me into anything, and they let me see what our options were. The lady in charge of the contracting work was good with communication. Any questions we asked, they pretty much had the answers to. The contracting work, however, wasn't very good. We paid them to put our septic in. They came out and dug the hole, put the septic in, ran the lines but didn't flatten the backyard back out. There's some work inside that the paint doesn't match, the drywalls were cracked, the trim is bad. I had to have somebody come out and fix the AC because it wasn't hooked up right. This is my first home. It's definitely cheaply made but it's a nice house. There's some trim that they could probably upgrade.

Initially, I noticed that when it was raining, the water was coming through the glass in the door. When they assembled that, they didn't do a real good job of sealing the glass within the frame that had existed within the door. There were also a couple other smaller issues that they had to take care of. But I had no problem contacting them and having them come out and take care of it.

Our two grown daughters wanted a house to live in on our farm. We had a place on the property where there had been a home before. We had gone to Joplin to look at the homes and drove by Clayton Homes and we were impressed with what we saw. So, we pulled in and looked it over. When looking at all the floor plans that they had, the home that they chose met my daughters' requirements. The people from Clayton were friendly and helpful. They answered our questions and the whole process was very good. They exceeded our expectations and everything was great. There were some siding that had to be replaced and a broken glass in the storm door when it was delivered. But they fixed everything very promptly and very good. I would recommend the office in Joplin to anyone in our area that was looking.

Clayton Homes was the first place we looked and we liked the stuff there. We also liked the salesperson, Gregory. He’s pretty cool. He was awesome, helpful, and he answered everything we ever had questions. If we couldn’t figure something out, he worked hard to find out the answer for us. I went ahead and bought the lot model. We got the Breeze 2.5. I couldn’t do the customizations on it, but we were able to get it on the land faster. The sinks are small which is not so great about the lot model. But everything else is good. All the coloring and the doors, the hinges, all the little things like that are all cool and awesome. I also really like barnyard doors features. Clayton Homes fairly did everything pretty great.

Stacy from Clayton was nice and she helped us out well. She got a warranty on my appliances that were already in the home. One time, the dishwasher door wasn't locking and water was going all over the floor. I cleaned up the water and stopped using my dishwasher. I called Stacy right away and let her know what the problem was. I scheduled an appointment with Clayton's techs and since then, everything has been all right. Overall, the home we got is of good quality.

Everybody at Clayton Homes was really helpful. They made it a whole lot easier for a first-time home buyer, especially Daniel. He kept us in the loop. He was always contacting us and telling the progress on the house, especially when they came to set it up. We still talk to him today a little bit. I was impressed that they wanted to get us in here before the holidays and they got us in here right before Christmas. But we had some bad weather to work through, which held us up a little bit though. Overall, I really liked the experience.

Clayton Homes has been absolutely fabulous. The consultation with them went fairly easy. I sent an email and someone contacted me. But we just ended up going up to the actual site to look and see what they had available. We spoke with Chase and he helped us through everything. He was very nice and very accommodating. He walked us through everything. After we signed the paperwork, it took about three weeks and the house was ready. They didn't deliver the house until the day after Thanksgiving and we were in the house about a week before Christmas. I had to customize the house that we purchased afterward. My husband loves the house. There were a few quirks and a couple of little things that were out of alignment but anything that I had an issue with, they immediately came and fixed with no problem.

The Clayton Homes consultants were helpful and we’ve been satisfied with the home. But there are some issues with the house that the consultant has failed to come back with. I'm personally dealing with Clayton Homes now and not through the consultant. I had a water leak that showed up the day before yesterday with this rain. I called and reported that and they have it as a warranty issue. I don’t wanna have water coming into the house. You’d think they would hurry up and get here to try to figure out what's going on, but we're looking at over two months.

The home that's built for me is already falling apart. From production, there were nails sticking out of the ground. When I talked to my dealer about it, they said that Clayton Homes would do nothing to repair it. They sent one of their maintenance guys and he just ripped the nail out of the floor. There was a big old hole, the size of a nickel on the floor, and this was right in the middle of the living room. Then, he put some kind of little policy on it and put the fake floor back over. Now, there's a little dip about the size of the thumb on the floor. There were also nails sticking from the ground in the carpet area but I told them not to even worry about it as I didn't want them to rip it off the floor.
Another thing was completely upgrade the master closet because all the shelves got ripped out of the wall. It didn't even have a lot of weight on it. They offered to do it but I told them no because they would have to either put the second shelf up or I'd have to deal with again at a later date. I ended up putting the shelves myself as I wanted to make sure that it was sturdy enough.

We paid cash for our home so everything was very simple. Our salesperson has been wonderful right through the entire process. She seemed very genuine and she was attentive to us and our concerns and our wants. She was good. The whole process of getting the house from the day we looked at the first drawing was about a year. It was quite a process, but everything worked out in the end. The quality is very nice, although there were a couple of tears in the floor. It could have happened at the factory or when they were setting the house up. But overall I am happy. They’ve got me in my home. I'm going to retire in one more year and that’s where I'm gonna spend the rest of my life.

She then decided at the last minute that she didn't want a shower and would take the bathtub instead. Clayton fixed that for us too. So far, everything has been good with the quality of the build. We had an issue with a roof leak one time when we had 15 inches of rain in three days. But once we called, Clayton guy was out within the hour. He got up on the roof while it was raining and fixed the issue. Clayton has been amazing. People just don't get service like that.

Clayton Homes is the only manufacturer I know and the home that I purchased from the is nice. I enjoy it though it wasn't quite exactly what I was looking for when I went to buy a home. But that was what I could afford and it's grown on me since I bought it. I like the fact that it's a three-bedroom and one of the bedrooms has the linoleum instead of carpet, so I can use it as my office. It's very wide and has an open type floor plan. During my purchase, I had a great interaction with their rep. She was able to answer the questions I had and was very helpful during the buying process. She kept everything moving and going. And she was there to answer my questions as they came up. If she didn't know the answer, she found out and got back to me right away. So, I was well pleased with her and with the way that she worked with me.
But after I moved in, I had some issues with one of the walls at my living room leaking water during rainstorm. And it took me about two months to get the guy to come out and fix it. He came out the first time right after my first call, and he did a little caulking around one of the shutters. The next day, it rained again and I had water coming in my living room again. I called and it took me another two months to get him out here to fix it. But other than that, he was able to encapsulate the window area and get it all sealed up now. So, it hasn't leaked since he did that.

With Clayton, I was confused with what I was actually buying and what their warranty covered. The whole time, their consultant was telling us that we were getting a driveway. We didn't know till after we closed that we weren't getting one. She really didn't know what was going on. It was a headache. Plus, the rep told me that their coverage was gonna cover my septic and my water well. That's why I am paying extra to have those covered. Now, it turns out those things aren't covered in my warranty. The house that I got itself was good. But then, there are people driving over our septic. Also, whenever Clayton would come to repair the house, they never did the job.

Clayton Homes are good people. But they wanted me to have a double-wide but I wanted a single-wide to start with. I have four kids and I don't have a ton of money like that. They were trying to put me in something that I wouldn't be able to afford. So I went down to speak to Oakwood Homes, which is the same, and he was able to do it. That's why I have a single home. The rep was a very nice young man and was easy to get along with. He did a pretty good job.
I love the home, but there are a couple of things that need to be improved upon. The cabinets are the biggest disappointment 'cause they are already coming apart and we haven't been in here for six months. The second day we were living here, we pushed the door shut and the whole front broke off. I had to glue it all back together. They are already pushing apart and I don't have a lot of stuff in there. I live right up the road from one of the lots from Oakwood Homes and I saw a house out in Clayton Homes' lot that I liked. The people that I worked with like the GM Brad and Joe, the salesman, were wonderful. I consider those guys pretty much friends at this point. The person who I dealt with when I was buying the home was fine. Afterwards, trying to get stuff fixed and the amount of time it took from when I started the process of buying was almost a whole year before I was able to get into my house. We've been here since November and we still got a lot of issues that haven't been fixed. My understanding was after I moved in, I have a year to get everything taken care of. I'm just hoping that because of this virus thing, it gets extended some because nobody has been able to come over to fix anything. I haven't wanted anybody to come over with everything that's going on.
I've spoke to Joe about it and they assured me that they're going to do what they need to do. I like my house but there's a lot of issues that I feel should not exist considering how much money I paid for it. I got one of the higher-end houses that Clayton sells. I've got some semi-major to major issues that I'm hoping to get resolved. I did construction for a long time too, so I can understand some things.
My sister-in-law is purchasing a home, so I've already recommended Clayton. I told them once the process was over, I would get on their website and make my comments. I'm not planning on doing any of that until the process was over with. Say two, three months from now, if this coronavirus stuff is over and we're able to get started again and my situation is not handled, I would probably be very dissatisfied. But if they come back and handle everything like I'm hoping they would, then I would be very satisfied.

My husband and I were going around to different sites and looking at the homes. Clayton came out to assist us whereas some of the other homes kinda let us look in the homes by ourselves, so no one was with you to be able to answer questions. The person from Clayton who went around with us was able to explain the process for us, made it so easy and simple that we didn’t have to guess about what we were doing or what we were looking at. She explained some of the features of the houses that we went through. They also explained the process in terms of lenders that we could use. We had the opportunity to choose which vendor we wanted to work with from the list that she gave us. That helped a lot because I’ve never bought a manufactured home before so to know that we had a list that we could just pull from and not have to search out someone ourselves made it a lot easier.
We bought straight off the lot because I liked the home. And then we wanted to try to get it in place by a certain date and if we were to order it, it would have been three months out from when we really wanted to try to move in. We were able to purchase some of the furniture that was in there, which also helped a lot. I’m happy with everything.
The biggest thing that we weren’t happy with is the guys that came out and put the siding on. The ends of the siding were kinda peeling up and they had to send out someone else. They had to remove some of the boards from the backside of the house. And now, I’m noticing on the side of the house that some of the siding boards are lifting up. It’s not tacked down really good. There are several boards now on the side of home that weren’t like that at first. Also, at first, it was a matter of waiting for someone to be sent out but after they were able to arrange for somebody to come, they came straight on and they worked on it until they got it completely finished. They came back and they did it all in one day. I’m fine with the home itself overall.

I work in Kingsport, Tennessee and there are two lots there. We just chose one over the other one and went to Luv Homes of Kingsport, which was where we got our home from. Starting out, we were really encouraged. Things were working good and we were making plans. They were listening to our desires of how we wanted the home and how we wanted it set up. The process beginning was excellent. However, after we signed our papers and got our closing, they didn't care what we wanted or how we wanted it. The experience wasn't really good after that.
The home was set up on October 14th. We were excited about it and even documented it. I've got pictures of them putting a home on the property, which owned ahead of time. However, we got our occupancy certificate just last week because of issues with contractors that didn't have anything to do with the home itself. The inspector said that if it wasn't a manufactured home, he would have evicted us until the issues got resolved. But knowing it was a manufactured home and the quality that they were built, he allowed us to stay in the home until the issues with the contractors outside the home were corrected.
The weather was involved in part of it, but there were weeks at a time when nobody showed up at the house to do any kind of work. We sold our old home to purchase this home and our old home sold quicker than we expected so we were living in a camper. We told the rep we'd appreciate anything he could do to speed up the process and to get with the contractors to let them know that so they could work two or three days steady and get it done. They didn't care what we had to say. The contractor would kinda work for a couple of hours, then say they had to leave and go to another site and do a few hours of work. Then we wouldn't see him again for six to eight days.
Clayton said that it was out of their hands. They said that they sold more houses than they had contractors to set them up and do the finishing work on them. I said asked why don't I just hire more contractors? They said that they have contractors that they use all the time and they wanna stick with those contractors. Some of them were good, one of their service guys that does the touch-up work even said he would recommend one of the contractors but he wouldn't recommend the other one because of the type of work he does. If your employee knows that, then it's time to look for other contractors.
We messed up when we trusted our sales representative to listen to us and give us what we wanted and didn't write anything down. He was making notes on his little notepad and we didn't make any documents of what we discussed. When it came down to it, we asked him about certain things, and he said that we didn't discuss that. My wife and I knew that we had discussed it and that it was included, but we didn't have any proof.
There is a lady who was buying a home from Clayton and she is putting it in the property beside us. She is now in the beginning process of it and I told her to get everything in writing. If you discuss something, you make a note of it and make them make a note of it, so you're on the same page. However, as far as the home, we love it. We got the anniversary model, which came out in 2018. I would recommend the home, but I would go with a different location to purchase it.

The Clayton Homes manager that I bought the home from lied to me from day one until I got this home finally put in. And it cost me money getting the home put in. I’m very dissatisfied with the Decatur office. If I’d known that it was gonna be that way with them, I would’ve never bought it at the Decatur. I would’ve gone to the other Cullman office. I was very dissatisfied with him and the sales rep that actually sold me the mobile home.
I paid 3,000 in cash upfront for the mobile home and then I paid to have the electric in and to have the septic done and everything. He did not follow up with anything. I had to get on him hot and heavy about it to get it in on time. He still didn’t get it on time and we’re running the rainy season. And it cost me money as far as getting my driveway and that put in because the rainy season hit. Now, my driveway is settling and sinking because they didn’t get it in on time. They even forgot to find the actual contract for me to get my tags for the mobile home when they made the bill. They kept telling me they were not responsible for that. And I had to call the main office and get on to them to get him to come back and do it.
Also, the mobile home when we were looking around didn’t have everything in it. I ordered it special and I’ll be darned if they didn’t ruin that. They messed up everything that I ordered. It had stuff in it that the other one had and it wasn’t supposed to. But I had to be satisfied with what was in it because if I ordered it, it would take them another week for me to get it and I couldn’t wait a week because we got a lot of rain coming.
They had carpet in it and it was not supposed to be carpet. It had mirrors on the walls, which it was not supposed to have because they start taking mirrors off the walls, they glue them things on and when you do that, you tear everything off when they do it. But that’s fine and the rest of it was hardwood. And then the sink in one of the main bathrooms was crooked and everything. The guy told us that it would cost more to fix it. But another guy, Joe, had that thing tore out, put back in, and had it looking perfect. I said I didn't want anybody coming out except him. He was the only one that seems to know what he's doing.
As far as the home, my wife loves it. It's a nice home. We have a few cracks in it and stuff like that, but that’s from the moving and from the settlement. And as soon as it gets to where we can do it, I'm gonna have Joe come out and take care of it. Once I met him and got some people in there that I could trust, it was good and everything.

It took Clayton a little while with the whole process because I wanted to get permits. That’s one thing that I'm kinda ticked about, but they went ahead and built the mobile home before I gave them the okay because I wanted to make sure. I got two houses on this property now and I wanted to make sure that I get permitted before they started construction on it. We got permitted and everything went well. I used their contractor and he was a decent guy. We got along well. I had vaulted ceilings and vaulted corners and upgraded the appliances, carpet, and pad. We upgraded a lot of stuff. I had a little bit of a problem with the Formica that they put in. It chipped, but they took care of that. I like the floor plan. I was able to move some doors and get rid of a bedroom, which was nice. I can customize it the way I wanted, so I'm happy with it. Everything seems to be good.

When I purchased my home from Clayton, Josh, their manager, didn't negotiate very well. I was trying to talk him down to the price I wanted it at but he didn't want to do it. More recently, I was able to set the price because they can't sell the home. However, the build is of poor quality. Clayton doesn't inspect their item before they install it. The trim on my home is all bubbled. Plus, they didn't sweep the floor before they laid the lintel and there are nails underneath it. The installers dropped tools too while knocking holes in the lintel. While I know my home is a manufactured home, it still should not look like a pirate ship roped in and with shot holding the lintels.
Clayton should improve in building their homes. They should have inspectors come in. They should also tighten the fittings when they put the washer in the home. The fittings in my washer leaked and Clayton's crew had to come back and do sheetrock work. Clayton's sales team is good and everything went smoothly. Still, the house they built is crap.

Everything went pretty good with Clayton Homes except I was overcharged for some stuff. When we bought our house, we had a video of us walking through it and there was a tag on the refrigerator that said delivery, set up an AC included. Then when I looked at all the receipts, which they didn't want to give me, they charged my construction loan for delivery, the setup, the blocking of the house, and the AC. It was around 6 grand.
I worked with Randall and thought that he was pretty good. He was kinda like a used car salesman, but he was nice and worked with us a little bit. However, he didn't listen to a lot of the things that I wanted and didn't come out to do a site survey before the house was brought out like he said he would. I really wanted him to do that because I wanted him to see what I wanted since it was my money.
What really upsets me is that when we first went in and started looking, he asked me what kind of house I was looking for. I said I didn't give a crap about the house. I found some land and I wanted to shop. He said, "We can do that, that's part of the deal." I asked how that worked. He said to pick out where I wanted to build it, they send me the invoice, and I pay them. That never happened. I ended up getting a bill that I paid for out of my pocket, but I was gonna pay for it anyway. That's not a big issue. The big issue is the delivery, set up, and the AC that they put on my construction loan.
When the guy got there to do the rock for the driveway, he didn't want to do what I had laid out because Clayton wasn't gonna pay him for that. I said that it was not my fault that they had to come out there and look to see what it is I want. He did it and I'm sure Clayton got charged the construction loan fee. I had also asked for a poured concrete slab for my air conditioning to sit on.
They built up a pad for the house to sit on, and I knew that that was not gonna work for the AC. They didn't do that. They put in one of those little plastic ones. Then the next thing I know, the AC guy was calling me and he said that he got one of those concrete pads for me. I told him not to take it out here because that was not what I wanted. They finally poured concrete and paid the AC guy to move it. Ginny, the little girl that does their repairs, has been perfect and I like the house. I don't feel like I was completely ripped. But Clayton should quit lying to people.
Hi Jerry, thank you for reaching out. We take customer concerns very seriously, and we appreciate your feedback. However, we have done everything in our power to make sure you have been accommodated during the process. We have been very transparent about every price including invoices sent. Clayton Homes has pretty good service. I got the warranty on the house so if I had any issues I just call them up and they come right out. We had a couple issues where somebody turned the electric on before the hot water heater so the element burned out so they replaced those and fixed everything out, and everything went well.

We talked to Clayton's Oakwood reps and they gave us a pretty good deal. They were very nice and cooperative too. They said they would bring our home out and set it up. Everything seemed to be working well then. While the Clayton people at Oakwood were fine, the contractors they hired to build decks were a different story. I ended up firing them. As I am a contractor myself, I finished up what they left. Clayton reimbursed me what it would cost them to have the decks built as well as the front and back porches.
When I was a kid, I had a trailer that was put together pretty well. On the other hand, the trim for the Clayton home that I got is coming off on the inside. I could tell that they used a Brad gun on it. Plus, the refrigerator we got has never shut completely. They gave us a phone number at Clayton to call Frigidaire but they kept putting me on hold so I gave up. Additionally, the drip edge that goes down in front of our windows is a little too far back up on the roof. So, the windows get wet instead of the water coming off on the side of the trailer. While for the price, the build quality is not too bad, the trailer looked like it got put together really fast and is cheaply made. I paid way more than I should have.

I bought land from Clayton Homes, Oleander Drive and I was trying to put a home here, but they just kept giving me the runaround. They were rude and they lied. I went to the one in Hampstead and they were awesome. They helped me out tremendously. They did everything they could and filled out every number. I could take my hat off to them. The rep was straight up. Every time I called, he answered the phone.
The buying process was quick and they made it simple. They were right on top of it. The longest process was getting the place in, which they had no control over. It was the factory. I have a one year warranty through them and then the manufacturer picks up another five years. We ordered the home in July, but then we had that storm and there was a backlog. In October, it was delivered, set up, ready to move in. The floor is squeaking a little bit and we put a carpet up in the bedroom, but other than that, nothing needed to be done. Only two people live there and we keep the place really homey.
George, we're so happy for you and want to thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your purchase process! We hope you and your family enjoy your home for years to come!

A friend of mine referred me to Clayton Homes. All I did was contact Mikaela at Clayton and she took care of everything for me. I liked how the build had a lot of space in it. I didn’t make the laundry room as big as what it was supposed to be, and I made another bedroom. And then with two rooms in the back, I cut the big walk-in closet to give room to make a third bathroom. I love my home. I wouldn’t change anything about it. Clayton Homes is in a location we drop by all the time. The price and the style of the home made us choose them. They were very responsive. We didn't have any problems getting ahold of them. However, the setup calls were murky. We didn't get any kind of breakdown on what we were getting for the price. But the rep was very helpful. We kinda looked through the homes ourselves and he let us do that. We then came back and talked to him. We went back about four times before we decided on a home. We put a deposit down in July and we moved in in December. It was not a really long time especially if you have a stick-built home, but when you're in the process, it seems forever. We asked that we don't have any carpet so they used the laminate throughout. I love the quality of the build.

The whole process with Clayton took a little while, but it wasn't anything due to Clayton. It was more of our end trying to get the loan secured. Once we got that lined up, everything went really good. It went exactly as Christina said it would go for us. Christina and the guy that comes and does the warranty work were both fantastic people. I love being able to work with both of them. We had an issue in the closet when they didn’t put the clothes rack on studs. They just screwed it into the drywall. So, as soon as we started hanging up clothes on it, it ripped right out of the drywall. They had to go back and rescrew it all into the studs. But that’s okay. It was not a big deal. It was just 20 minutes to fix. Other than that, the quality seems really good. We haven’t had any major issues with anything.

The Clayton rep we worked with was a great guy and we were really comfortable. The only complaint we have is that it took a long time. He told us upfront that it was gonna take that long so it wasn't a total surprise, but we were expecting it to be quicker. We applied on February and we moved to the house on November 1st. We had some trouble. We had to exchange the model that we wanted twice because of several things. We also had issues with the lot that we were placing the mobile home at first and then we had to search for another one. It wasn't something we can control, and that's probably why it took so long. But the house itself took a long time to the actual lot.
Also, we had some trouble with leaking at the beginning and they came over and repaired the leak. Then, it started to crack again on the ceiling. It hasn't leaked again, but it shows the crack. And the sliding door lock isn't working. We have to call again and make another appointment. Other than that, we are really happy with the house. I love the design and we haven't had any problems, just minimal cosmetics.

I like everything about our home and I love it. My favorite piece is the island. I love the space underneath. I also love how wide it is. It is a double-wide one. The typical trailer is only 13 feet wide and this is 16, so that couple extra feet make a big difference. Trevor, the home consultant, was great too. He went above and beyond to help us out and he walked me through every step of the way. When I was painting the walls, however, I noticed that the drywall was not very good. It is mostly hidden places you won't see unless you are painting it, and I'm fixing it myself. So, now, I have to sand it down and repaint it.

My house had burned down and when we pulled in at Clayton Homes and looked at the manufactured homes, we saw one we really liked. We went in and talked to Bryan, and they were very professional. This home was delivered and they did everything so nicely. The concrete pad was put down and the home came in here. There were a few little mix-ups here but that’s gonna happen when you're transporting something as big. This is a big place, 2,200 square feet.
But when I had any problem and the salesman didn’t help me, the manager helped me and she is so nice. She went out of her way. I asked for extra curtains on the two double windows and she got them for me. I'd recommend them to anyone. The only thing that I'm probably gonna replace in there is the toilet seat in the master bathroom because it's a little bit small for me. I ain’t big but I like the more elongated ones. That one there is just a little bit smaller and I would like to be comfortable when I go to the bathroom. That aside, this home is really nice.

We took a trip to Florida from Tennessee for a week and looked at all the homes, and we liked Clayton Homes very much. We were in Florida, and we were going back and forth by phone, and paperwork, and it went fine. We talked to two reps. We talked to a man first. He did most of telling us everything, and then, we talked to the lady. It went very good. We got exactly what we picked out which is a big, three-bedroom home. We customized the floor and the cabinets. For the floor, we put the planks and different shades of browns. And then, the cabinets were done in a maple. They were all antiqued. And then, the countertops were like a Formica and more of cream and brown.

It took us a year to get this thing all done. Part of it was Clayton’s fault. Part of it was the contractor’s fault. Part of it was the company we were dealing with for the mortgage. It was a terrible experience although I like the people. When we got to moved in, the crew at Clayton’s actually helped us unpack three storage boxes. They were nice people. Clayton Homes was okay with customer service until the actual sale. We ended up with a poorly-built house and they didn't back us up or take care of problems. We were getting the runaround every time. Even leading into it, we were just getting put off. We were not getting real answers.
The house looks like it was built by 10th graders. There were a lot of issues. I could do better work than this even when I was in 10th-grade shop. It's sloppy and parts don’t go together right. There is unfinished work. When we pointed this out, the answer we got from the manager at Clayton was that we didn’t pay enough to get a better-quality home. The salesman kept saying they would get it done. But for example, one of the lower vents from outside was caved into the underneath during their construction and it was pointed out several times, and to this day, it has not been fixed.
The master bathroom was supposed to have supports behind the shower so we could hook in grab bars. Right now, we’re having to use the shower in the second bathroom because it’s smaller and I can at least hold onto the walls. That should have bars in it but there’s just no place to hook them into because they didn’t reinforce the showers. As a matter of fact, knowing that I had problems, they put a set of steps out here with no railings on it and I fell. Luckily, I didn't get hurt seriously enough to have to do anything. But they finally put the railings in, begrudgingly.
When I went to change the furnace filters, there was no way to slide it in. I had to bend it in half to get it in. The width of the door is about a half-inch short. This furnace, particularly the casing around it, looks like it’s totally jerry-rigged. We also got things like the molding or the painting around up on it, and sometimes, it’s nicely-matched but sometimes we have almost a half-inch above it. It’s that bad. The molding is also misaligned all over the place.
Three of the switches in here are also put in backwards. They're multi-switches but when you walk into the room and you hit the light switch, you want the first switch to be the light. That’s normal. In the master bedroom though, they got the fan next to the door, not the light. Then In the other two rooms, they got the fan switch which they put in in case we have to put a fan in up there so it’s a dead switch. So if you’re in a hurry, you tend to hit the wrong switch and you have to go back and do it again to get the light. That’s not very safe. We asked them to fix it and they said they won't fix it.
Somehow, the key to the backdoor got lost and that was a different lock set than the front door, which doesn’t make sense. Finally and begrudgingly, they gave us a new lock set to put in. After I put it in the new lockset, I actually found the old key. But I’m really not anxious to walk back over and give it to him because I’ll blow sky-high. I understand Clayton didn't build the house. But this place was never even cleaned up. We pointed it out before we even actually got to move in but we’re still cleaning up paint and glue now. Clayton had a great reputation and Fleetwood is supposed to be one of the best in the country for building these manufactured homes. But Fleetwood did a rotten job as far as the construction. I am totally upset with that because I’ve never seen such terrible work. I would tell people to find someplace else to buy a house.
They said we should have paid more and bought a better-quality house. But if you buy a brand-new house, aren't there certain things you can expect about it? We didn't buy this place used. This is brand-new and built here. Nothing lines up. It’s terrible and I don't know what I can do. I’m just a consumer who got screwed by all these companies. Clayton said they were done with us. The last time we saw them, they said there’s nothing they can do about our situation – we bought a cheap home; we got a cheap home. That is one of the most disgusting things you can say to somebody that just spent, with the foundation, $107,000 plus the loan.
This deal even went on for four years originally until we found the right deal. Some other things happened and then we decided if we could get it where we needed it, then we would do it. We got it close to where we needed it, not too far off from what we had paid for the place that was here as far as monthly payments, and then we had to take out the old house and put in the new. Part of that was a total disaster, simply because you hire people you can trust, and they don't do the job. The guy was supposed to dismantle the place but he dismantled it, took everything of value plus some stuff he wasn’t supposed to take and left all the junk here. And it is a lot of junk. We had a 14-by-70 set in here.
There were some things I had questions about on their demo. The demo had been set in there. It wasn’t on a foundation. I was worried because I see cracks in the ceilings and across the wall. They said that's just settling and that it would be all taken care of. They also had to come in here and redo caulking around half the house, between the wall and the ceiling. The guy doing it was very nice and very good at what he did, and he said they used cheap caulk. Everything was done as cheap as possible. The lids on the toilets won’t even stay in place. I would expect this after years of use. But we’ve been here since October and there’s already stuff that we’re looking we’re gonna have to replace. I would rather just replace than go back to Clayton.

But after that got all straightened out and we found a proper lender, it went very smoothly. I worked with Nathan at Clayton Homes and I couldn't ask for anybody better. I love my home, too. I had a couple of issues but the biggest one was a manufacturing issue. Once we accepted the house and got the keys, we went back to where we were staying because we didn't have any furniture. Then, a fitting on the water heater busted and flooded half of the house. But the general manager and my salesperson were on top of it. And within three weeks, they got everything replaced and fixed. Then we did the official re-move in, so it all worked out.

I was looking at between Clayton Homes and the one that was in Anniston. Clayton was closer, so I felt delivery would be quicker versus going all the way to Anniston and have it delivered to where we lived at. The process of looking at the homes and doing all of the paperwork went great. The problem came in after the payment and closing were done. They rushed getting the house in because they were trying to hurry up before rain came. When we got in the house, there was am abundance of errors in it. The manager kept wanting to come out to make sure that we have enough land for the house and that everything was straight, but we have 50 acres of land that’s on flat land. But after we got the house and we had errors, we couldn’t get the manager to come out for anything.
After sending videos and pictures and then complaining, they had the people that was supposed to fix the home to come out. I showed everything to him because he was only sending the people out that was supposed to fix on the home for like 30 minutes or 10 minutes at times. When he came out, he said that he saw why they need to be out here for five hours. It was a headache trying to get them to come out and fix the things that the manufacturer should have done in there. Half of the trimming is coming up off my home. There were some on the kitchen and in the tub and in the bathroom. We were able to put it in ourselves because the only two guys that they have working were always busy with other stuff.
The trimming in the kitchen was messed up and they’re still trying to order trimming. They came out one time with trimming that was ordered the wrong way and now they can’t get the trimming to line up because the manufacturer didn’t do it right. So the trimming in my kitchen is gonna be off or either they gotta have to redo the whole back wall of my kitchen. I have one piece of trimming that they took the trimming with them to see if they could order the right one. Nobody has called me back to say, “Hey, we ordered it. We got it in. Let us come see if it’s the right one.” It’s not a priority to them. They were more into the process of getting the money than it was to try to make us happy now that we have the house. I didn't like that. But the people that came out and did the repair were awesome. The issue it the management that’s in the office.

My salesmen was always preoccupied with his personal life to do his job. My house was delivered in March 6 months after I closed so now they have 90 days to finish. So during this I’ve been renting a townhouse. They were nice enough to let me rent bimonthly. Stewart my new salesman promised I would be in before June. Well now my lease is up. I’m homeless. Staying in hotels and with friends.
I’ve called corporate. They see nothing wrong with this. I still have no septic or drain field. I know we’ve had a lot of rain in April but dang not for the last 8 months. Last week was beautiful. Still nothing except for them delivering the stuff to do the work and put it on top of my new trees. They have thrown their soda cans and taken a deuce in my yard. Stewart was supposed to meet me to let me put my large stuff in the house. Showed up a hour and a half late. It was raining. Said he had a customer hold him up after he called and confirmed. So would I recommend these folks. NO WAY!!!! Do yourself a favor - go somewhere else.

He explained everything. The process went fast for me. Most of the people that I've talked to that got homes were like, "Oh, it took us longer to get our home." And I was like, "Well, they were right on." I got my stuff in once we've done the paperwork and everything. I love everything like how my home is. I enjoy it every day.

April at Clayton Homes in Northport really sold us the house. She did a good job at selling it, and that’s why we chose to go to Clayton Homes. It was easy for our first time buying a home and they were very nice too. They made us feel like we were part of their family and they helped us the whole way through the process. They kept us up to base and made sure that we had everything. They did a good job and they made us feel like home. Another family was looking at the trailer I wanted the same time we were, so they came to me and told me that we would have to order one, then I could’ve done my customs. That family fell through though. They found another one, so they called me and told me that the trailer was available if I still wanted it.
I said yes, so we didn't do any customizations on this one. Still, the quality of the home is good. I know that within the first year or so, the trailer has to set, so things fall apart. We called for all the trimming and other stuff that have come off, and they came back and fixed everything. It doesn’t take them long too. Any time we had a problem, we’d call them and they're there within the next couple days to fix it. All in all, I was ready to buy my first home, so it was exciting. I’m satisfied and I’m happy. We have recommended friends to go and check into Clayton Homes too.
We appreciate your feedback so much, Samantha! Customer service is of the upmost priority and we want to make sure all your needs are met with your home. Don't hesitate to reach out!

I had a place but I had to sell it to pay for the trailer. I worked with Taylor and Jay at Clayton Homes and we had a good rapport. The process took a while and they helped me out a lot. I had my house put up for sale when I first talked to them and it was a matter of months before I actually did anything with Clayton. When the buyers paid me, I went straight over there and Jay did all the paperwork. He got the ball rolling and I was out and moved up here before my 90 days was up. I was very happy with the way everything went and with the way everybody handled my situation.
I had some minor things in the home, but they fixed it quickly. All I did was call Taylor then she sent the guys out and they fixed everything. But I’ve had trouble with my heat and air unit shortly after I moved in. It wasn’t heating, then their tech came and checked it. It worked okay for a while but it did the same thing again. It wouldn’t cool and the temperature I had it on would go up. So, the tech came and fixed it today. He changed a part in the return room there and said that that should take care of the problem. Other than that, I’m very pleased with my house and I love it. I paid extra and got the front porch built. So, it looks really good. And when I get the outside fixed up a little bit, I’m gonna do the landscape timbers about two feet away from the trailer and put rocks.

They had put one light off-center, but the factory came out and fixed it, and we're good.

I've called them several times about the air conditioner. The one that they gave us didn’t work when they hooked it up, so they said they’d give us a different one, and it's not working either. Other than that, I didn’t have any problems. There was communication and it wasn’t the best, but they're friendly people. There were a couple of reps and they seemed to know what they were talking about. The knowledge was good and they answered all the questions we had.

Installation tore out vapor seal compromised and this is a newly built home. Web site says the pressure test plumbing as part of inspection. Well I guess they missed that step or didn’t inspect it. VERY dissatisfied with home. Would not recommend this company to anyone. Will discourage anyone from buying Clayton here in Tennessee.

I went to one other place and their price range is better. I found the same exact house as one of them that was about $10,000 more than the one that I had with Clayton Homes. I would’ve liked to have more involvement in it. We would’ve liked to have seen pictures along the way as it was being done. They could’ve sent it to our email. But anything that needed to be done afterwards, like little things that we needed changed out after we got it, they were very obliging and helped us with everything.

Lightning struck and our place caught on fire, and we were in need of a place. I’d been staying in a motel and a friend of mine for a little while. We found out about Clayton because the Realtor woman called me. I looked it up, and I got a friend too that has Clayton Home. I always thought they were better than most of them. During the purchasing process, I always got to talk to Carl. We got all the paperwork, and we went and signed. As far as his part was, it was pretty fast getting everything done.
There were some things on my part that I should’ve got straightened out. There was some mix-up on my paperwork. The woman next door is going to put up a privacy fence. I dug deeper on my papers, and it said I had a two-car driveway. They moved some of the gravel that Clayton put down, and the guy at Clayton said that they might not have got it right. But there’s no way for anybody to come in my driveway now. This has been kind of aggravating. I don’t know how I’m gonna do the landscaping, too.

Everything with Clayton Homes started out good. Sean, the salesperson, was very good. The buying process was good, but my mobile home is horrible. My experience wasn't good at all. I have work orders, and I have seen no one before November. They had somebody who had tried to call me. They called to do a survey, and I haven't got to call them back. I've told them about my electrical, about my air condition, and there's other small stuff. I had told Clayton Homes in Corpus where I bought my home, but I wasn't even gonna sweat the small stuff because I can't even get them to fix my big stuff.
I tried to get them to fix the electrical before Thanksgiving and couldn't get them to do it. Then I told them that half of my air conditioner is cold on one side of my house, and it's hot on the other side. I told them my ex-boyfriend has already looked at it and said what the problem is. I just need them to fix it, and they have yet to come and do it, and then I couldn't even get them to even talk to me about it. I told them I'm done.
Also, I didn't like that when I was buying the home, I was told, "No, it's gonna be four weeks," then it wasn't four weeks. It was even longer. It started out in June. I didn't get it until September. So, I was very frustrated with that. I finally got it, and then I was happy. It took forever to get my keys as well, but then I got in. Then it seems like it was one issue after another, but I'm living with it. Now, I still have the air conditioning problems and the electrical, and I wanted to deal with what I can use and what I can't use on the electrical, and I don't like it but I have to live with it.

Clayton was a mile from where I bought land and I had to pass it every day getting there. Laura was the one that we bought the house from and I didn’t like her very much. I would ask her a question about something and she would say that she would me call me right back. It would be four days before she called back. I told her that I didn't want something on the house and she went ahead and got it anyway. The house is alright but there were a few problems. One of the supports underneath the floor was loose so there was a big old bump like a hill in the kitchen. I told Clayton about it and the girl said that was the factory. So, I had to wait for the factory to call me but they never did. It was that girl there that called me and it was at least three months after when the house was moved.

When we first got the house, there were a few little things that they had to fix. I wasn’t really happy with is like a few of my knobs had fallen off, which is normal. We just had to replace some of our knobs, like on our cabinet. Other than that, it's been pretty good. We love everything about it. It has the vaulted roof, so we love that. We’ve really enjoyed it.

The sales consultant was great. I knew for a long time that I wanted a new manufactured home on my own lot so I was visiting Clayton Homes even before I had a piece of land. I’ve seen all the models many different times and then I had an idea of which one I wanted. Then he sent it to the factory to price it up. This factory took over a month to get my pricing back to me. They said something about some kind of a computer crash. I finally got the price and it was way higher than what I wanted, so then I was back looking at all these models. I was kinda frustrated because I liked the model and I couldn’t really figure it out. So, without swaying me one way or the other, he just said to take a fresh look at one model. By doing that, it’s like he knew what I needed and wanted. That ended up being the one I got and I’m super happy with it.
The one thing that I had to have no matter which model I pick was the tile shower. It’s easy to clean although there is one design flaw. The grout used is not permanent, and so if water splashes on it continually, it will erode. It's always dripping on the two corners where the showerhead is. After a while, the pan started to show from the grout. Clayton re-grouted it, but then the same thing happened since the grout is not permanent. They didn’t caulk it. I have a couple of washcloths in the corners so it won’t splash directly on the grout until I figure out what I’m gonna do. Overall, it’s great.

I moved to Arizona from Ohio. I had to practically jump through hoops to get the trailer Clayton Homes. When I got the trailer, they brought it without letting me know. I didn’t even have my water or anything else in here. Finally, when I did get it and got in here, they put some crazy steps in. I told them that they were too high, and their rep said that he was told that they were to code. I told him that they weren’t to code and I took pictures to prove it.
My trailer was set here from August to October and I never had a key for it. I had the key one week and I broke my ankle when I was trying to move some stuff in the house. I was at the bottom of the stairs and a washer fell off the dolly and come down landed on me. So, it took another six weeks to get in here. Finally, they gave me some crazy steps in the back. They had built some steps that the screws were actually coming out of the wood, and I had to pay $2,400 to have a porch made so I could get my stuff in the house.
I’ve been in the home since January the 1st and I’ve already had to replace the strap in the bathroom because it’s broken. The stripping off the wall where it goes in between the paneling and the stripping on the wall is coming off. My son had to glue it. I’m not happy with it. The trailer was not easy to purchase. I had to pay my car off before I could get it. Every time I almost had it, I had to pay something else off. I went through my whole 401(k) just trying to get everything paid off so I could at least get the trailer. It was a process and to go through what I did was just ridiculous. I would never use Clayton Homes again ever and I would never recommend them.

I’ve known about Clayton Homes since they were here ‘cause they’re just a hop, skip, and a jump from my house. There’s a lack of options around where I live but Clayton’s reputation is good. However, I feel the need to have more transparency on what somebody’s paying for. There was a home price and then ultimately, I ended up borrowing $20,000 more than what the home was. I kept asking for a breakdown of what actually am I paying for, and I never got a solid answer on what is included in that other $20,000. I didn’t know what I was really paying for.
They kept saying I needed footers and I kept telling them I didn’t. I had a mobile home here and I just had new footers five years ago, and the person that was gonna do the footers is the one that did them. It was a reputable company ‘cause it’s the one they used to do the footers. I ended up not needing footers but my price never changed. I know there were a couple other things they did for me but I don’t know that it equaled the price of the footer. It left me with a feeling of getting ripped off. But sales consultation was good for the most part. After it was brought here, it took a while to get things fixed. I know they’re busy and were down a person, but the communication wasn’t there.
In my bedroom, the thing that goes to my vent was twisted. There was absolutely zero air getting through there. It’s middle of winter and it’s 10 degrees outside and my room was getting down to 54 degrees at night. There was a couple nights it got down to 50. I finally sent them an email and I’m like, “This has been two months. I’m freezing. Can I get somebody here to help?” Finally, they came and fixed it for me. They were always very nice. Never had a problem with any of that when they came out and fixed everything basically the same day with the exception of the ceiling. They did a good job.
With this pandemic though, I told the tech not to be in a hurry, but when the guy came home to fix the cracks in my tile in my bathroom, he kept telling me it was the color that he had, a tan, and I kept telling him it wasn’t. He said, “They’re telling me it is.” I said, “I’m telling you, I look at it every day and it’s not.” He put it on anyway and it’s way darker than what the normal is. It looks like it’s dirty when it’s not. I asked them to get the right color so I can go over top of that so it doesn’t look like my brand-new shower that I clean every time I’m in is dirty.

We ordered a double-wide. We got two dogs and we wanted vinyl to the whole thing. We ordered it gray outside, vinyl siding with black shutters. When we went to sign the papers, the house was tan with green shutters and the front part of the double-wide was carpet. I asked Clayton what they could do about it. They didn’t offer any kind of discount and just said that they could build us a new home. I asked them how long that would take and they said five weeks. Updated on 05/24/2022: I wrote a review a while back and got a little more help from Clayton. We are now into the 2nd year of owning our home and in that time another window was replaced as it was leaking water when it rained also. My storm door was replace but we are having the same problem as before and the contractor that replaced the storm door didn't even bother to put the chain back on the door, nor did he leave the chain so I could replace it myself. Guess how we found out? Yes it blew open in the wind and pulled the frame loose at the top.
We have also discovered when I stepped down onto the floor by the door frame going out the door that the doorframe where the door opens has been leaking water for awhile that isn't noticeable due to no water on top of the linoleum has rotted out. No fix from Clayton on this as they only have a 1 year warranty. There are places all over the house that you can feel as you walk that the floor isn't laying flat. I hate my house, and wish we hadn't gotten it.
Original Review: House has problems. Clayton finally sends someone out to fix them months later. They made a mess. I now have cracks in my ceiling and walls paint on my beams and floor and my home is only 6 months old. Was over a month from delivery, set up and key turn over and the delay was not weather caused. New home had to have a window and a door replaced as the window was warped and the sliding glass door leaked water in when it rained. They took so long to replace the sliding door that the sheetrock along the wall molded and also had to be replaced. My storm door on the front door is set crooked and you can see daylight above, below and down the side it barely latches and the wind has opened it and about ripped the thing out.
The contractor that came to fix the sliding door and window repaired some of the cracks but got paint on my trim and beams and speckled my linoleum floor with paint. I barely have water pressure at one end of the house and was told that was within the allowances. The skirting was applied sloppily and keeps bowing out. I'm told that's due to the house settling well. Clayton homes hired the guy to build the pad. It's not my fault if he didn't pack it. Not loving my new home. Moved in Oct 2019.

The home buying process with Clayton Homes and the consultant we dealt with were both good. We were looking for a trailer for our daughter, and the one we looked out in Elkins was a two-bedroom, and then we found this one in Buckhannon on sale and it was a full package -- it was about the same price but it was a three-bedroom one. That one worked out better, so we got it. We were satisfied and we didn't have to change anything at all. I, however, was a little unhappy that I found that there was a lot of formaldehyde in it. The odor is well gone now. When we went over the paperwork, the lady mentioned it, but for some reason, it didn't register.
Hey Alice! We're so happy you're pleased with the home! At Clayton Homes, we strive to provide a unique experience for each customer, so that they can be happy with their purchase decisions. We are happy for your daughter!

We were looking for a place for me to buy and put next to my mom’s and went traveling. When I first looked at Clayton, the home had some decent building materials. However, some of the other Clayton we looked at were built like junk. The countertop was junk. We had a hardwood countertop island in it and I was not impressed with the people that I bought from and the people at the factory. I also still haven’t got my place finished. It has been seven months and I still got interior trim work that’s not done and a house that’s not leveled and needs to be releveled. I’ve also got cracks showing up in my sheetrock.
They said they’ll be here. But I’ve been told that for about seven months now. This place was supposed to have been finished in September of last year. And for a long time, they avoided even answering my phone calls. I’ve talked to the people I bought the place from and the manufacturer of Clayton Homes. I got the runaround from every one of them. The next step is legal action. I am not happy at all and I’m very dissatisfied. I won’t recommend someone else to go buy from Clayton Homes.

The home buying process with Clayton sounded very easy but when it came down to it, it turned out to be a huge pain in the butt. They could have handled their communication differently. Also, I'm six months in and I'm having a lot of problems with the home already. I’ve got one cabinet door that came off in my hand and it’s sitting in between my washer and dryer. And they’re gonna have to completely change all my countertops out. All the molding is coming off. I’ve had 10 different people come into my house to fix things. They came in with a tube of caulk and that was how they fixed things. I would not recommend Clayton Homes to anyone. It's shoddy, shabby, and cheap-made.

My daughter and my mom both purchased from Clayton Kodak. But Clayton Strawberry Plains gave us a better price. Joseph, the salesman, was great. He was super nice. We were his first sale. However, Greg, the manager of that home store, flipped out on me, and then he refused to speak to me again. The first couple of months that we started all this, he called me all the time. He was out at the property all the time. He was like overseeing everything.
And then that day, I called him and said, I didn’t know who to contact about the foundation, there's a problem. And it was early in the morning and it was like I caught him having a bad morning. I was like, I didn’t even know. I was in shock so I just shut up. And then I was listening to him and I asked him twice, “Why are you yelling at me?” And then a few seconds later, I said, “I cannot believe you’re yelling at me like this.” And that’s when I hung up, and I haven’t heard from him since.
I bought the house and only financed the house, and I paid for a lot of other things in cash, like the foundation, the waterline. And the foundation is cracked all over the place, and he didn’t wanna hear it. He didn’t wanna have anything to do with it. But we used his contractor and I didn’t have any other way of contacting the contractor. And, that was the day he got real nasty with me. I had to hang up on him because there was no talking to him. And then after that, I only dealt with Tony. Tony is very short with me. Tony has much done everything I’ve asked. He did send the foundation guy back out to fix the work, but there are still cracks and hairline cracks.
When Tony took over from Greg, Tony came into the house, it was the day that we were supposed to be moving in, and he said, “If I take your picture, will you give us a good review?” I said, “I can give you a good review and I can give Joseph a good review, but I cannot and will not give Greg a good review.” He said, “If you don’t give Greg a good review, my guys don’t get their incentives. We just get little stuff, like lunches and dinners.” And he said, “If you don’t, we won’t get it. If you can’t give me a good review, I can’t post your picture.” I said, “Okay, then don’t post my picture.” And they didn’t. So, nobody has contacted me at all about how Greg treated me. I’ve never had anybody speak to me that way. He’s the head guy there. Nobody else is above him there. So, there’s nothing they can do. He gets away with it.
I love the house. I saw a few things that I need to have fixed, but I’d try to wait until I get a few things together. I’m happy with the house. The salesman and Tony were great. They fixed a leak under the house. Tony has had the foundation guy come out twice now to fix the cracks. But dealing with Greg and having to deal with Strawberry Plains again, I’d probably never go back to Strawberry Plains.

Clayton Homes is located on Route 17 and we drive by there all the time. We’ve looked over there seven times in the past five years, while trying to figure out if we wanted to do this or not, and last year was when we decided to do it. Our deciding factor was the timeframe. Sometimes it’s easier or faster to get a home put on your property instead of having it built. Another reason is wanting to have a new home and not something that’s somebody’s been already in. At first, the home buying process at Clayton was really good. We got to sit down with the salesperson. She went through everything pretty well. It was the process after the sale portion of it, we were trying to wait for the trailer to get set-up in an amount of time. Other than that, everything else was pretty good.

I have had a couple of issues. We moved in our home 2 years ago. Our AC Started freezing up after being here for 6 months. (Still under warranty). The AC guy came out and recharged the brand new system and left. I asked, if it needed recharged, that means it is leaking right? Needless to say, I have been trying to get someone to repair my system since then. It is now 4/3/20 and it is not working. I had a repair company take a look and he assessed that a valve in the unit was overheated and damaged in the install. (I have this documented.) I have been trying to get this fixed along with the block underpinning since we moved in. Guess what, I cannot get anyone to do what they say they are going to do. Not even return my call after they tell me they are going to take care of it and I never hear back.

The whole process of buying at Clayton Homes ended up taking five months. The financial end of it was very slow. It took the people from Clayton so long to pull my credit. They called me back and said that they were gonna have to pull it again because they did run out. But as far as the Clayton salespeople down there, they were very nice and very knowledgeable. The folks I got to work with did a very good job. I love the quality of it. But I had a sink that was in there the other day. I went and I started to fall backward, so I grabbed the sink and the sink came out. It was not cemented in. So, I’m finding little things like that. I had to go repair that myself ‘cause I don't know if during this COVID if they’ll send anybody out or not.

Through other people, I came to know of Clayton Homes. When I happened to be looking for some property, I had also seen stuff about them on the side of the road. The home that I was looking at was the one that I really wanted that’s why I went ahead with the company. Also, the homes were a lot better made than before.
During the buying process, we went back and forth on a lot of different things. They would say I could get this and this and all of that. I said, “Okay. We change this, we change that.” But they don’t tell you how much the setup fee is until you go through the papers to buy the home and it’s a sticker price. When you’re looking at how much it was and you add another 27,000 on top of that, you’re like, “You got to be kidding,” because you’re not looking for that.
There was another Clayton Homes in Johnson City. It was said those homes had the sale price of how much their homes were with the setup fee in it, so you automatically knew how much you were paying for the home and setting it up. The other ones did not though. It had just the price of how much the home was gonna be.
I was able to customize some things in my home. But I was very disappointed in one. I wanted the beam down in the center where the two halves meet. When the guys came out to make sure everything was put up together, I told them they forgot the beam. I told them that there was supposed to be a beam down the merge line. But no one told them about that. They called the manufacturer and talked to the engineer. The engineer said that they didn't put the beam in there because they didn’t feel that that would be a good thing to do.
I had the fireplace in. I was really surprised that they really didn’t know a whole lot about that. I know I had the guys to come out and they had to do the conversion, but it took me a little bit to figure things out. We got that taken care of though. I didn’t get the beam and they reimbursed me for that. They said they gave it a little extra and I thanked them.
They also took out the big old tub and there was a little shower off to the side where I had the big tub in. I just got myself a big shower. I told them I wanted a vanity set so I put all my makeup and all of that stuff there. I wanted a vanity that comes with drawers and usually with a mirror. I took pictures. I told the guys that it was like a folding table because I really wanted one. But when it came, I asked where the drawers and the chair were. I couldn't get them to do those and they told me that was what I ordered. But I didn't think so. That thing couldn’t have cost $250 or more. But that was what I got. They said to go to Walmart and get the ones with three plastic drawers that roll and I can put my stuff there.
I told the guy that goes to the selling and gets all the permission stuff, “How would your wife like it?” He just had got married. I had to get all of the crap from one side of the bathroom, put it on the other side then turn around and have to put it back on the other side where I got it from. I told him his wife wouldn’t like it. But that was what I gotta do. Overall, I love my home but I’m not completely not satisfied.

Clayton Homes switched managers three or four times and none of them communicated with each other, so none of them communicated with us. We didn’t even know that the person we were working with didn’t work there anymore and none of the things that we had agreed with her was honored because the next guy pretty much said that it was not his problem and he didn't know what to tell us. We then dealt with someone who treated us like crap and not a priority and after a while, he just didn't answer my emails and left us high and dry. Then he apparently left the company also and nobody told us. The current one is Tracy. I was irritated with her too at first because she didn’t even send us an email to let us know that she would be our new manager.
I don’t know how many times we had to contact Clayton to come and fix something. They left our house sitting out there in the middle of the field for so long that it got mold all over it, and then it took them forever to come and fix it. We still have mold because they've just painted some parts over and said that it's dry enough. None of the doors shut because it’s so crooked. Apparently, Tracy is just trying to blame it on Skyline, but they’re not the ones that put it together on our property. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I have emails of them basically ignoring us and putting the faults on other people and not taking their responsibility for anything. I was not impressed and I would not recommend Clayton Homes to anybody.

Clayton Homes in Carson City has a really bad reputation and I was told that before I ever bought the home. I got one of their lot models, Champion, which was the ultimate home. They'd agree with me on a price and they back up to see how far they could push and what they could get. I bought it for 150,000, and then they wanted 155,000. I went ahead and did that because my wife really wanted it or I would not have done it. Now she's very ill and she may never get to see our home finished. That's one of the bad things. Besides that, they got their man out there already putting the foundation down. They figured they could put the screws to me because of that. The guy that came out worked hard but he did very sloppy work. Clayton said that they would fix everything. They sold a lot of mobile homes all of a sudden, and Mike the contractor, told me that they would do my home first.
Some of the people that worked with them before told me that we couldn't trust them. They knew about this Champion home and said that it's beautiful if we could get Clayton to move it in one piece, where they won't tear it up. Well, they tore it up. From the very beginning, they cut the floor. It was all this hardwood-look home all the way through the house, except for the two bathrooms and the laundry room. They told me it was that kind, but it was a composition floor. Then they went down through the middle of it and cut right down to the seam in the center of the mobile home. It was too late to say no after they cut it.
I got a call from two or three different people, they said they would try to remedy it. One contractor said that they'd have to completely abandon one room with the hardwood floor in it. Then Champion Homes came out and looked at it and it's already been there nearly six months. The damage was between $3,000 and $12,000. The walls and the outside siding were busted, and this is a real high-quality home. They called their boss and said that it looked bad and it also made them look bad. The boss told them to fix everything so they did that, which the contractor and Clayton were supposed to do. The one guy there working for Champion said that instead of paying $700 or $800 to have the floors taken up and put back together, the contractor paid somebody $35 to cut the floor and we were out the cost. So, I'm stuck with fixing the floor and it's not even either. My wife has a lot of trouble walking and it's dangerous for her.
I had another contractor, Claywood Construction, and he said that it would be about $3,000 to $5,000 to take the floor up and try to put it back together. If Clayton would tell where they got this flooring, then he could probably find some. Clayton contractor never gave us an invoice to what it costs or who put it in 'cause I don't think they want me to know that they told this man to cut the floor and then run. The guy that's building the home with Claywood did the work for them because it had to be done right away. He built a garage, 35 feet by the same light as a mobile home, and it looked like one piece of house. He did a good job, he was a good builder. He walked by and looked at the other things then shook his head. He told me that I shouldn't have to put up with this.
Another thing was that Clayton contractor made up the contract and they said they were gonna cut the floor. I told them to take that out there. They were trying to get me to sign everything that I did before and sign away all my contract, 'cause they ain't our warranty or federal warranty for one year. They wanted out of that so they could just walk off and sashay away from the whole situation. I said, "No." I wanted a warranty on it. We re-signed the contract.
Then Mike couldn't get the job done. Clayton kept pulling him off of mine. He worked one day and then worked four days someplace else, and I was paying him money upfront to stay there. He has been lying to me as well. He'd tell me that they would fix it. Then he called me right at the end of last year saying that they would fix everything and that they would have to replace the whole floor, they just needed a good rating from me. I told him that he's been really bad so far. I wanted to see it done first. I won't give him a rating before he finishes it because I don't trust him.
Then after about January the 20th, he sent me a text saying that they would not do anything. Whatever I wanna fix, I fix it. I'm on my own yet I have my home warranty for five years or seven years. When I went in, he said, "You don't want that." I told him that I wanted it. He wouldn't bring the papers out for me to sign, so I called Clayton myself and they said that the company was supposed to do this. I told them the company won't do it. I went back up there and wrestled with Mike again, back and forth. I finally told him that I didn't wanna deal with him anymore. When I got a hold of another Mike, the manager, they sent a deal with the old contractor and said that they were gonna cut the floor. I told him to sign the contract and that I wanted it back and we redid the contract.
The truck came in and they were supposed to bring in the mobile home and put it over the foundation. When the guy came up to the gate, he said that he wouldn't go in. He'd leave it on the side of the road. I told him not to leave it there. He said that he couldn't get in that gate. The gate was like 26 feet wide. He just didn't want to. He told that he won't do it unless I tear the posts out. I did $1,000 worth of damage on my fence taking the posts out. I ran into it with a backhoe and a bucket, picked it up and threw it over to the side. I had to cut everything else.
Then I told him to pull in. That road is hard as rock, but if he gets in no man's land, it's gonna sink down. I told him to come in like this, back in there. He said that he couldn't back far enough. I told him to do it and that I would help him and pull the home over the foundation. He came in and instead of doing what he did, he made a great big wide circle in no man's land, where the road was soft as it could be, and he got the mobile home stuck up to the bottom of the frame for about four weeks before we could get it moving. Then instead of getting the right kind of equipment, they just kamikazed it. It did more damage to it again.
When they pulled it over the foundation, because they didn't have any way to pick the mobile home up high enough, they didn't have a hydraulic lift on the back of the truck, the pipes went down and the guy scraped and tore the bottom of the motor home up with a bolt sticking up in the foundation and so there was damage. When we hooked it up, there were leaks which he didn't even find out.
I had the customer relations call me. They tried to work it but they kept lying. I talked to the other people that formerly worked with them and they said that was Clayton Homes Carson City. Those people never inspected my home because we don't live in an area where it has to be inspected. I had three mobile homes sold for them in Fish Lake Valley. The homebuilders from Pahrump inspect everything just like they do anyplace else, even though we don't have inspections in our county. And because of that, Clayton cut my throat. There's still a federal inspection that they're supposed to do, which has never been done. When they hooked the water up to the home, a lot of the water came into the walls. The contractor should've caught that. Then Champion came back out.
There are still cracks down the ceiling of it. It looks like a Pinto horse because the paint didn't match when they were trying to do it. They told me they were gonna make it look as good as new and they have not kept their word. It looks terrible. I had nothing but trouble with them. I could never recommend them to anybody. I have known other people that bought homes from them that had the same problem.
Hi Jim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We apologize to hear of your wife's health problems. This has undoubtedly caused additional stress on you. With your home being a double wide, it could never have been moved in one piece. The laminate flooring is what we discussed prior to moving the home and the manner it was cut and a transition strip put in was not only spoken about, it was put on the contract. The set up was not part of our contract, therefore the inspections would need to called in by the contractor you hired. We're sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with the paint. The home you purchase was a two year old lot model, and when the home was put back together on your property, the fresh paint will not match the older paint exactly. This is common when lot models are purchased. We are sorry you felt you've had a poor experience, but we have provided everything according to our contract. We wish you nothing but the best in the future.

We looked at quite a few manufactured home lots in the area through Austin and we liked the people at the Clayton East lot. They were honest, knowledgeable and very friendly. We didn't want carpet at all and so, we asked if we could change the flooring and they said that it was not a problem.
Terri, thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're glad to hear that you were easily able to customize your home, and that our team was so helpful!

I would like to start out with I would not recommend them. If I would have to give them any stars would be zero stars out of five. Clayton Homes DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR HOMES WHAT SO EVER!!!! They false advertise an airtight efficient home when their homes are not efficient nor are they airtight. We’ve been dealing with Eric this whole entire time trying to get things fixed between our doors showing light at our side door or back door or window leaking air along with blowing dirt into the home and we were told that that is normal and weary have to learn to live with it. Not to mention that our electric bill is out the roof along with our propane bill and Eric basically told us in order to prevent dirt from coming in the house we had to build a windbreak of either shrubbery or build a wind break. Along with being told Their warranty does not cover cracking walls cocking any cosmetic damages of the house settling.
But to put it in perspective for everyone our neighbors' bills for electricity is under $100 a month. Wow ours is over $300 a month along with going through a tank of propane every month to month and a half. So it’s gotten to the point where we have to hire an outside contractor to come put new windows in a home that is less than nine months old and been getting lived in less than six months. They’re hard to get a hold of or have anybody return phone calls back and when they do they come out and basically make you feel like an idiot and that all this is your fault that it’s happening and they’re not taking any accountability for their poor craftsmanship of their Company. I also put a review with pictures on their Facebook page of the kind of shenanigans they’re trying to pull. It’s at the point that we are ready to take legal actions for failure to complete agreed fixes of the house before moving in.
Update 3/18/2020Mike **, G.M. Clayton Homes of Evans came out to look over our issues along with our realtor we went through to get this home. Mike came out looked at our windows and basically told us there is nothing wrong with our windows and that all the dirt that is building up in our windows is from us opening and closing the window. Which is far from the truth due to the fact it winter/early spring time and it’s cold here. The only time the windows have been opened is when we did our walkthrough with Eric and Mac from Clayton home and just recently when Eric and Mike has came out. Both told us it is normal to have this fine dirt come blowing in your home from around your brand new windows.
We showed mike our power bills and he said that there normal price for the power bills. As I mentioned previously our neighbors that live in the Clayton Homes power bill is under 100 bucks a month. Mike told us that he would suggest us doing some landscaping to get the dirt to die down some which requires water and our water well is an in-house only well so we are unable to use the water to water plants grass trees animals or anything besides what is inside the house. I told mike how are we supposed to do landscaping if our well as a house only well which would require us to haul water to water the landscape. We live out in rural Briggsdale Colorado one a property that was advertised as a horse property that you're not allowed to use water to water your horse/s with.
Mike kept saying this is an airtight and efficient home. Which in any person In their right mind means the windows, doors don’t leak air or let in dirt in to your home. Then he proceeds to open the windows and tell us the vinyl weather stripping needs to be cleaned and vacuumed out on a weekly basis to maintain the dirt from building up and making out windows we don’t open leak. I’m not talk about one or two windows leaking air and letting dirt and dust in. I’m talking every window (All 12) and sliding glass door in our new 2019 built house.
Next was outdoors. Mike told us that the doors on every Clayton home is custom built to fit the home with there not these house are build on an Assembly line and pushed down the line. Nothing is custom built for any of these houses. I called him out on that. He became very aggressive and very defensive towards me and said that he did not say that. Our realtor who is not associated with Clayton homes in any way. Expressed that mike came acrossed very aggressively toward her over the phone through our whole process of buying this home.
To sum up mike's visit. We didn’t not come to an agreement, was told to leave and that Clayton home will not help with the cost of the new windows we are getting put in a less then a year old home. That is going to cost us $30k for. Now we are looking in to having to get someone to come out and make a custom fitting doors for or front and side doors. All in all this is a very poor company to get a house from and they do not stand behind there homes. We will also be contacting the regional office for Clayton homes and speaking with someone from there. There only out to get a quick buck and do the bare minimum in warranty work as possible. Feel free to contact me I have hundreds of photos and videos of how poorly built this home is.
Hi Derrick. We appreciate your patience as we allow the Shelter In Place orders to lapse before additional interaction takes place at your home. Once they do, we are working with your realtor to schedule a home inspection which would include a thermal imaging study. In the interim, these suggestions may be of some benefit . The good news is that nice weather is approaching. The native grasses surrounding your home do not require watering and now is a good time to seed the area around your home and, as the grass reestablishes itself in these areas disturbed during construction, this will help minimize dust levels around your home. Your furnace, a 95% efficient Nortek unit, will help considerably in controlling utility bills for your home. It brings in a percentage of outside air to ensure safe Oxygen levels in your home. It is necessary to keep a filter on your furnace and keeping it clean will help considerably in controlling dust levels within your home and will have a significant impact on the life of your furnace. We thank you again for your patience.

I went to Clayton’s London location and I was told a bunch of stuff that wasn't right. The reps lied to me and drew me out for about two months. They wasted my time. So, I went to the one in Richmond and I got exactly what I wanted. The rep was great and she helped me out a lot. I didn’t want carpet so I can sweep the floor every evening when I get home and I love that I got that. I would have liked to have a bigger trailer but where I put it, that was the biggest one that would go down the road. It was three-tenths of a mile and it took seven hours to move it down the driveway.

The Clayton Homes rep is a good lady. Everything she said was right and she did a lot. She did everything good, but we just had trouble with the service techs. One guy had quit and another guy got fired. We were left waiting for a while. But they have one subcontractor, his name was Jamie, who is good and I trust him. Then the guy that they have right now is pretty good too. But all others were sketchy. They were not somebody who I’d leave in my house by myself.
We had little bumps here and there but Clayton Homes pretty much took care of everything. I'm just waiting to hear back on a couple of more things that have to be taken care of. I kept feeling something sharp on the carpet and it turned out to be a sleeve of staples under it that I had been stepping on. So, I have a hole in my carpet right now. But so far, everything seems to be good with our new home compared to others. I’ll be happy as long as I get my floor fixed 'cause there are still issues.

In the very beginning of buying the home, Clayton Homes said they would put straw and seed my yard however it wasn't and it was a horrible mess. Another issue was that they left the house sitting sideways against my garage for over a week before anybody else came out to put it on the foundation. Back in the fall when it was time to turn the furnace on, I had problems. They sent somebody out to check the furnace and they had to come from Bloomington, Indiana. The person that came to check it didn’t hook up some of the wires on the inside and the outside. That could’ve caused a major fire but that got straightened out. They need somebody to check on the people who put the house in.

The person that I started with at Clayton Homes wasn’t being as thorough with me and wasn’t including me in the loop. I wanted to know every little thing and we had an issue with communication because the only way I could communicate with him was through email. He ended up leaving Clayton Homes and Nate took my call and became my go-to person. So, he handled it from there. I had some issues when Clayton set up my double wide but I got Nathan, the General Manager, do that and someone fixed the issues quickly. He has been on anything that has happened between then and now. Clayton has gone above and beyond as far as getting somebody out here to fix any issues I’ve had. Clayton has great quality but being able to communicate with your customers is key. Other than that, it was an excellent experience.
Hi Tina! Thank you so much for sharing your feedback regarding the entire purchase process you had with Clayton Homes! We do apologize for the previous issues you had, but we are so glad that Nathan was able to remedy those to ensure you had a wonderful experience.

We were looking for homes and I Googled places. Clayton Homes was the first one to pop up and I called them first. Mike, the rep, was wonderful through the whole experience and he helped with any questions that we had. No matter how many times I texted or called them, he got right back to me as soon as he could. We were living in an older double wide when we got the home off the lot. I like the cabinet space and the flooring is nice. If I have any questions or if I need help with something, I would call Clayton and they would come right out and fix it. The customer service has been good. I have a girl that I work with that I recommended Clayton Homes to and she's in the process of buying a home now.

I wasn’t thrilled with the project manager. I don’t think he was on his game in helping me. I was on my own lot. Clayton Homes was not in control of everything within the lot. The coordination was tough between the project manager when I had the septic team and the clearing team. In the end, everything’s okay but it cost me a little extra money and time because of the project management. Other than that I like the home. I’m happy with the quality of the home build.

Clayton Homes was pretty aggravating for quite some time because it took a little over a year for us to finally get into the home. One was due to the weather, but then there were a lot of things that could've been prevented. We're in now and we're settled though. We started out with Oakwood Homes. So in the midst, they closed our store down and put us with someone else. In two months, nothing happened. We just got put on the back-burner. Then, it took them three times to figure out how to level the spot to put the garage on. It was ridiculous like they had no common sense with the land. That held us up another four weeks because they couldn't get that right. I couldn't believe how it took them that long to figure out how to level a piece of ground and put a garage on it.
They finally got that done too and nothing was really wrong with the house. I didn't pay enough attention to the houses that we looked at on the lot. The cabinets are not being really real wood. The outside of the cabinets are like board stuff, and around the island, it's peeling off already. I was expecting more quality with the cabinets and the sinks. They're squeaking already, the kitchen sink is scarred up and cracking. It's one of those farmhouse sinks and it's around the drain. I was told it was gonna be ceramic and it's plastic.

When I started looking for a home, my father was ill and I was told that he couldn’t stay by himself anymore. He was in an old mobile home and he ended up going into the hospital, so I was trying to get everything done as soon as possible so he could come back home and not stay with another family member. The rep at Clayton Homes helped me out a whole lot. She went above and beyond. She was very nice and understanding. I was told that I could pick my floor and my cabinets but I had to get something fast. The buying process with Clayton was smooth and my questions and concerns were addressed very well. They made sure I understood everything before I left. Unfortunately, my dad passed away before he can actually get inside the home. But when they put it out, he got a chance to see the outside and he was very satisfied. So, I couldn’t ask for anything better.
Tia, our hearts our with you, and we want to share our deepest condolences regarding your father. We're blessed to hear that he was able to see his home and was happy with it! The entire team here at Clayton Homes wants you to know that you are a part of our family. Please let us know if there is anything we can ever do for you!

Customer service is my biggest concern when it comes to big purchases. I spoke through several other places and they were just trying to wine and dine and get that sale and it wasn't as such with Clayton Homes. They treated me absolutely like a person. Their team was phenomenal. You couldn't ask for a better team. Their collaboration and their ability to keep me informed during the whole process was impressive. You go with the process of buying a home but they put a lot of ease at it. The quality of the home is topnotch. I like the open floor plan and the square footage for the price was huge. My wife absolutely adores the barn doors. If I have an issue, it's taken care of within days by their repair guy.
Hi Eric! We want to thank you for this wonderful feedback! We're so glad that our Clayton team exceeded all of your expectations! We are so happy that you and your wife love the layout and design of your home!

Everything went really well with Clayton Homes. We were very happy with what we’ve been with Clayton Homes. We were looking for a good, used mobile home and they said they didn’t have one on the lot. The manager came out of his office and told me he might have something I was interested in. He had bought this mobile off of some people but it never had been moved to the lot yet. He took us out there, showed it to us and we liked it so we bought it. It’s a nice trailer. It’s an older trailer. It’s a 90 something model, but it’s in pretty good shape. They went out of their way to help us, so I was very happy.
This is amazing, Pauline! We're so happy to hear that our Clayton team was able to meet your family's needs! We strive to provide this unique type of customer service in order to build a wonderful customer experience. Enjoy your home!

The rep whom I dealt with from Clayton, Randy, was very good. I liked that when I'd call, he would answer the phone. He didn’t try to avoid me or anything when I asked things. He was polite and friendly and he really helped us. He did a great job. The Clayton home I got is a quick and easy house. The commode gets stopped up sometimes but other than that, I haven't had any trouble with it. It's a nice house that is very roomy and the price is fair.
Thank you so much, Carl! Clayton Homes is happy to hear that you are loving your new home! We're also thrilled to hear that Randy was such a huge help to you!
