I'm quite happy with Clayton's home buying process. It was quick and simple. They pretty much did everything for me. Anything that I wasn't sure of or questions, they did it all. Even the building permit, I didn’t know where to go. They called and got me an appointment. I literally just had to sign the papers. My consultant was great. Everything was pretty quick.

My son has worked on mobile homes before and he said Clayton was the better built so he recommended me there. They had what I was looking for. Everybody was nice and everything went smoothly. I had a few issues that got taken care of in a short and timely manner like my bathroom mirror kept cracking.

It's mostly me, spending that kind of money during a pandemic and your job is not like it was. The rep did good. I appreciated her help. We made a few changes with the home. There were a few things wrong, but Clayton is working on getting them fixed. Also, the particular home manufacture didn't have a bunch of upgrades but we took what we can. We upgraded the trim, commode, and then put another barn door on the closet.

When I'm buying something, I don't want to be hassled or the whole salesman pitch. I want to discuss things with my wife, and I want to be left alone. Clayton let us look around and do our thing. That was very satisfying to me. If we had any questions, we could go to them and ask them. They addressed it and if they didn't know the answer, they most certainly got it for us. They were there with us in every step. They did everything they could to make the whole process comfortable and get us the best price and the best home for me and my family. It was a wonderful process. The guy who actually helped us, the salesman, the manager, and everybody were very informative. If there were any issues, they were on top of it. It was a great experience.

My girlfriend flew by and told me about Clayton. The way that their homes look are very modern and like regular houses. They're roomy. Inside and outside, they look like a regular house rather than a trailer. My girlfriend liked them. Also, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff made me feel obligated. I bought the Isabella. The quality is good but not great. You don't notice a lot of things when you purchase the home, but you don't know it until you really get it there.
The siding is not like the thickness of the siding on a normal house. They're very thin and fragile, and mine keeps blowing off. And I got a skirt. I paid good money for it. My modular house is 60 feet long, and the skirt is long. You just put the skirt in with some screws, and they got a little track. All of that is very flimsy. Any little wind that blows, it blows it off the track right there at the bottom and the screws come out. And the track is only a quarter of an inch so it's easy to come loose. But other than that, the homebuying process was great. We talked to other manufacturing companies. Clayton helps you with everything from start to finish. But with other manufacturing companies, you had to do certain things yourself, like sometimes you would have to call the people to put the septic tank up on your own. But Clayton took care of all of those needs, and that's very helpful, and time-consuming too for them, but not for the buyer. They made it very easy for the buyer.

My mother-in-law and my boss both bought homes from Clayton. We went there with them and they were friendly and helpful, and were willing to answer any questions. My wife saw the floor plans online. It didn't have any inside pictures. But they told us that we would go to this website, and then we could choose a color scheme. We were able to choose and pick what we wanted in it and do the optional stuff, like the extra bathroom and the upgrades in the master bathroom. However, our shower leaks and it still leaks. And the guy said, "Well, just don't spray water in that corner." We got a three-year-old, so it's hard not to. And they had to cut some of the paneling out to get it to dry out. It has been a month now and we still got the paneling missing out of our bathroom. Other than that, the total experience was awesome.

The home buying process with Clayton Homes was awesome. The sales lady, all the help and the staff up there were phenomenal. Regarding the home, I'm pretty dissatisfied. We bought a demo unit. It has a great build. I needed to get it off the lot. We didn't have to wait for the manufacturer and we got some money off on it. It was a perfect deal. They got it out here and got it installed quickly. We're having a lot of problems though. We keep calling them, and they'll come out and they'll do all the repairs.
The front storm door won't stay closed. When the front door was closed, you could see light coming through it. They've already worked on that once or twice where the two halves marry together. There are issues with the flooring. There's like a trim molding that goes across it and that keeps popping up. Back in where the carpet’s at, there's like a recessed area where you can fill it in-between. They said somebody from the factory was gonna have to come out.
Also, the floor wasn't level. When you would walk on it, you could hear a creaking or almost a popping sound. They looked underneath it. They said that the manufacturer was going to take care of it. Now, it's getting worse. My concern is we spent all this money, and we got into a loan. Essentially, even with it being a demo unit, pretty much, it was brand-new. I'm concerned that 10 years from now, I don't know how much further downhill this thing potentially could go. They come out and they do repairs. Sometimes, the repairs work. Sometimes, they don't.
We were in a unique situation because we had moved out here to the country. My wife was working out-of-state at the time. Me and the boys moved out here in an RV with the intention on building. And through nothing on Clayton’s part, unfortunate events would come up. We had made the decision. “All right. Well, to get a quicker turnaround, we're gonna consider the modular home.” It's kind of mixed emotions because it was great. I've had 2,500 square-foot of belongings in storage containers. So, getting to move into somewhere, and get all that stuff out, and not be in a camper was phenomenal. At this point, I probably wouldn't really recommend anybody to get a modular home. They're just not built as well as kind of what was advertised.

My husband and I went shopping and we were told to look there at Clayton Homes. It was the first place we looked and we didn't have to look anywhere else. We were satisfied. We were one of the customers where Julia was both a sales and service manager because she was switching roles in the company and we were one of her last sales. She was great. She is gonna be great at her new job as well. I need to get with her. We have a few little things that they will be able to work on. Because every single time I have contacted them to fix things that we found wrong, they have come out. But no problems as far as obtaining the home initially, and the problems that have gotten fixed before have been fixed well. The process has been great. We are enjoying our new home.

The home buying process with Clayton was great and my satisfaction with the reps was good. I dealt with Chase Wise and they were awesome with it. I bought the home during Covid so it was a different and unique situation that we didn't get to do the open house deal like normal but everything else was great. I had to go out there when we did the open house and get the keys from Clayton Homes because they couldn't come out during that time. I understood all that. They explained everything to me so that was part of their goodness. There was no hidden anything. They were totally open with me the whole time with it.
I just wish at times during certain steps, they would have come up and said that they were fixing to do things instead of saying that my home would be there and then, they would do this and that. They told me everything they were gonna do but not when they were going to do it. I got a call one morning after they'd put the concrete down and they poured a slab part. A guy also called me one morning and said that they just hooked onto the first half of my modular home and they were headed my way. Then, they would get the second one after that. I told them that I would call in and take off work that day. I was not being informed about the timing of when things were going to be done and we were getting quite a bit of rain and stuff at the time as well. If I could have had 24 hours notice, it would have been great.
I've recommended Clayton to several friends and three of them has already purchased from them. My experience with Clayton was good because they made it simple. I didn't have any credit issues so that was a big plus too. That helped things go smoother because it was almost an immediate deal. They ran it and said that I was all clear. My credit score runs about 780 which they said was a platinum and they don't usually get those.

Clayton offered a home and land type of loan through other people that they utilize and that sounded great to us, so we went with that. However, the whole deal did not go too well for us very quickly. The first gentleman that was dealing with our stuff ended up quitting. They handed it over to the manager, and we ended up dealing with him the rest of the time and he did not contact us at all. I had to contact him to try to figure out information. We asked for the house to be ordered in October and it didn't get ordered until I contacted them two months later. It was when I was trying to check in and figure out where our house was and when it would be prepared and ready.
As far as the construction went, the manager did not have any set schedule for it. It was like just have the third-party company come out and do it whenever they want to. There were a couple of times that I caught the manager in lies because he said, “Oh yeah, somebody had been out there, and it's too wet for them to bring the house.” I called him out on it. I told him that I was sitting there and nobody ever came out there nor had it rained. It was a couple of things that went south for us when it came to that. We finally got our house in and it took him quite a long time to go up and close on the house park in Victoria, Texas. Other than that, my understanding is that he got terminated and we ended up talking to another person.
The guy that got terminated told us to go ahead and move in to the house. When the new person came in, she's like, “Oh, you're already living in it. You're not supposed to be living in it.” We also barely got our book, saying, “Here you go. Here's your house. I'm glad you closed on it.” It was quite a roller coaster for us. We didn't even get our 30-day grace period of making sure everything works. There were a lot of things that they had to come fix after the house was sent there. One of the contract companies, a third-party guy, told us that it was a house that came off the lot, and they didn't even order our house. We had to go through that process as well.
When the house got set, they had to come back and do all of the trim around all of the windows. All of it had to be re-done. The doors got put up and they were put up by different-sized screws. I had to have them come in and re-set all of the doors. When I asked for one of the doors to be replaced, they asked me if they could just putty it and put it back up. I absolutely refused that because I paid for the house. There were no chains for the ceiling fans as well, so we had to get that on order.
A couple of weeks went by and we got some heavy rains. It ended up flooding inside of our house through the windows because they were not caulked. They had told us that, “Well, you can just caulk the windows yourself.” and I said, “No, that's not part of the agreement.” They came out and they caulked the windows, and I'm hoping that we don't have mold in the future. If people ask me if I would ever do business with them again, probably not. That's how angry I am.

Everything went well with Clayton. They are one of the major sellers around this area and it seems like they have a reputation of being better, like the higher end as far as mobile homes go so I went with them. I didn't want the hassle of trying to build a house on my property so it seemed like a good tradeoff. I chose the model that I got because it had a more open design. It's a larger open area. It has a shower and a bathtub in the bathroom versus just a shower. I also chose to have gas furnace and gas stove because I have free gas on my property. Everything's nice. It's got regular drywall ceiling and drywall paneling. In mobile homes, that's kind of rare. But the place wasn't cheap either.

Everything went about as smooth as can possibly be expected with Clayton, considering the circumstances. They were finishing up the job right when the COVID lockdown occurred. The guys scurried and did what they possibly could do to get us in the home on time. It was an unusual buying experience but these guys could not have done any better than what they did to get us in. They got us in right when we requested and they busted tail to get the job done. We were going back and forth with the factory because we had made about $40,000 in upgrades and changes to the interior of the home. So, they were doing different things. It was not a cookie-cutter home where they could say they've done this thing 100 times. They were doing some nice changes for us. I've turned a few people onto Clayton already. It's a big purchase and I did a lot of research. They've got the best package out there right now.

The process was good. The consultant was also good. However, this home had no options for customization. The walls are thin and the floors buckle. We had an air conditioner that was leaking water when I first moved in. I've been talking to the manager in Carencro trying to get some replacement parts for the house. That is no fault of the manufacturer. My cat scratched up some trim. He told me he'd get back to me and it's been probably three weeks. He's kind of hard to work with. I have asked them to direct me to where I can buy more trim at but I've never heard back.

My parents went to Clayton Homes here in Springfield as I was growing up. I’m also a trucker so I drove past the one in Lebanon. Seeing that they had a good deal on a trade in, I drove up and that's where we checked out. My rep, Mike, was really good. It was pretty quick on the closing part of it. We got the display model and it all went fairly smooth. I wish I would’ve customized it but that was right when the pandemic happened. The shops that were building the places were all closed down. Now that we've been into it for a while, there are a few things in the house that I feel that are very cheaply put together. When we first moved in, I had to go through and fix a lot of stuff. But it could be with it just sitting on their lot for a year or two and people going in and out of it.
It took the contractors three or four weeks to get the home moved in and set up. They didn't fix my yard very well whenever they left so now I've got rubble in my yard that I've got to go through and fix. They should have left my yard in better shape. They were also talking about possibly charging me more to move my house down to where I did because they thought they were going to have way more issues if they were gonna have to go through a neighbor's field. They were moaning and groaning about these things. I had to fix the electric by myself. I paid $13,000 for it to be set up and moved so I don't feel that I should have had to pay any more for them to come out. I was being charged for new water lines and they weren't gonna do them. They did fix the siding but they broke it. They backed the truck into it and hit a guardrail moving it. I don't think they were very professional.

Some friends of mine were looking into getting a mobile home and they recommended Clayton. I went and talked to them and they seemed to be helpful. I tried to decide what I wanted and they asked me questions. They worked with me well. The lady at Clayton named Christy helped me find the kind that I wanted. She also said that Clayton was a good company and that they build good mobile homes.
I did a little bit of customization. Clayton looked into it because I showed them on the website where they said they had several customizations. I wanted to do those and Clayton tried to get them to work with me on it. But they said that they couldn't do customizations so they didn't do them. But it worked out where the rooms were open. They were more of a square instead of cut-up rooms and I was losing a lot of space.
It took a whole lot longer than I thought it was going to. I ordered it and they said about three or four weeks, I'd have it out there. They were right. In about three weeks, I had it on my property. But it was probably another almost two months before I was able to move into it. Even when I was moved in, they were still working on it. They were still putting up blinds and getting it leveled up. I wasn't quite too happy about that. There were a few things here and there that were delayed.
There were also a few little things. The water pipes had to be wrapped but they were exposed. I figured when I paid the plumbers to hook everything up and it cost me a fortune that they would do all that. But it ended up they did not do that. It was not required by them so I ended up having to do that myself. They also dug all my piers and it was like a week later before they poured my concrete so they were all full of water. They had to pump them out and it took longer. But all in all, it worked out. Clayton was pretty good with a lot of stuff. They've told me quite a bit that was upfront. I went ahead and did the plumbing and electrical separate instead of putting it out on my loan so that was very helpful too.

The process was outstanding. The only problem I'm having is the follow-up punch list and getting things taken care of from the move. The front porch light will not work unless the inside light is on. So, it's wired wrong. There's a bowed panel where one of the doors is rubbing up against so it's damaging the panel. There are also some other minor issues. They haven't come back out to do anything about it. It's been four months and I call them every month or so. They said they haven't forgotten about me and they're gonna schedule me in but I never hear from them.
The quality is not as high as you would put in a single family residence, but I understand. I'm 95% happy with what I have. Clayton as a whole did a fantastic job with the sales process, getting it moved out there, and getting a couple of things taken care of like the dishwasher that didn't work. There were a few things that they’d come out and worked on right away.

It was more around my price range that I was looking at at the time. I had to make some quick decisions to get it going. I had some troubles on my end but Clayton was real patient with me. I had good dealings with the sales at Clayton but the home could use some improvements. The molding has holes from the nail gun that they didn't fill. Also, instead of making sure that they've done the right measurement, they filled the corners where the moldings at the ceiling meet with some pipe caulking and moved right on. And the cabinets aren't square. The doors are crooked on some of them. The craftsmanship of what the factory did wasn't that great but other than that, everything went well with the dealers.

He was really great. But I had people sit here before that couldn't do anything about it. It’s still not right, but from what they told me, the vent has been put in the wrong place. I also had problems with the water heater. It went off three different times, and I had no hot water. The fire detectors would go off, and they found out that the wire was loose on one of them. It started doing that again today. I have nail pops in the home, too. The floor is vinyl, except the bedrooms, and you can see where the nails are trying to come out. It has been a problem getting stuff done. Still, they have been good to me. They are very good to deal with and I would recommend them.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Betty!

I'm happy with the home. But trying to go through Clayton to have it put up was like pulling my own teeth out. We closed on it in September, and we were told that Clayton would walk through what was happening. We had heard that it was typically somewhere in 45 to 60 days that a house would be delivered out here, be set up, and we had an estimated completion date of sometime in January. They are already pre-made in the factory. Nothing new, nothing too crazy, about three months.
In September, we applied for the building permit. We closed September 19. Around October 13th, we called because we were like, “Hey, we haven't heard anything. We're trying to speak with the agent we had gone through. They were like, “Oh, well, we're glad you called. She doesn't work for us anymore, and your building permit was rejected. And we've been meaning to get back to you.” Our building permit was rejected and it sat on her desk for two to three weeks, no idea, without them trying to reach out so we could get the issues corrected.
We fixed the issue with the building permit. The house was delivered to the lot around December. It’s a two-piece home that they have to seam together. It sat out on our lot for most of December. No work was being done, nothing was being told to us. Clayton came out here one day, did the block foundation around and got it all seamed and put together, and it was a slow process. We didn't move into the house until beginning of April. Six months for a modular home. During the process, we had a lot of issues with the contractors.
Everything was going smoothly and then the bank contacted us in January who we got our loan from. And they were like, “Hey, we were told that this was supposed to be done in January. We need something explaining why we need to extend this out or we’re foreclosing the loan for it not being completed.” We had to scramble and get with Clayton and talk to them. They didn't know too much about it, but they got with them and got that extended out.
When we had closed, we had agreed, in the closing document, there was supposed to be a 6x16 covered front porch. I guess the general manager was handling it since we didn’t have an agent because that agent quit. The way I found out that that wasn't going to happen was I saw them building the wrong sized porch on the house. I called Clayton. I told whoever that was working that day. And she was like, “Well, let me call them and see what's going on.”
She called me back a few minutes later, “Hey, I can't get ahold of any of the contractors out there working. Can you go over there and just tell them to stop working? I have to call the general manager and figure out what's going on.” So, we told them to stop, and they were like, “They can’t. Look, just let them go on and finish. If need be, we'll just tear it off and put the porch that you’re supposed to have on there." I was like, “All right, fine. Yeah, sounds good.” A few days earlier, we were told, “Hey, we overestimated your project by $6,000.” I'm like, “That's a big overestimate. But hey, it happens. We're all human. Whatever.” We had signed agreeing that our principal would be reduced by $6,000.
Then the General Manager, David, called my wife and told her, “Hey, that wasn't part of your loan agreement. That's on the closing documents. There's no word on it. If you want to refile through Cascade, you can do that to have that porch put on. But there's nothing we can do. They’re expecting a 4x6 porch. Not the covered porch or anything. There's no money left in the budget.” I was like, “That's weird ‘cause we specifically stated that to the agent when we purchased to start doing the closing documents.”
I called the bank. I was like, “Hey, what happened with this?” Because we're looking at the process of trying to get it added back in.” The bank told me that they called the general manager and they told him, “Hey, you're $6,000 under budget. What project wasn't completed?” He was like, “Well, this is what we've done.” The bank asked him, “It shows here in the documents that they're supposed to receive a 6x16 covered porch.” The general manager told the bank, “No, that's not the case. We're not doing any other land improvements in lieu of it. Just refund the $6,000 off the principal.” When I talked to her and found that out, I was extremely pissed off that he called and lied to my wife, and that I had to call the bank to find that out.
And then when we tried to get it corrected, they didn't have any contact with their contractor. Because we don't have a sewage system out here in the county, we had a septic tank put in. They installed the septic tank through my front yard. So, I'm no longer in compliance to be able to do the 6x16 covered front porch. When I talked to the manager about it, his excuse was that it was listed last in the closing documents and he didn't read it.
And then, the contractors left a ton of trash out here on our property. It sat out here for about a month, pile of pallets where they got the blocks and whatever materials. My wife and father-in-law, while they were trying to clean that up, found one of the contractors had taken a Walmart bag, pooped inside of it and used a work rag to wipe himself, and just threw it there and left it. They had a Porta John that we had to pay for as part of the construction process. Talking to the county, because of the way the septic system was set up, and the way Clayton's contractor did it without consulting us or anybody, we can now never put on a bigger front porch. It will be too close. It will encroach upon the septic system. Go to anybody else.

Clayton Homes has a good and easy process. Everything went smoothly with the home buying process. My home consultant was good. She was very helpful. She answered the phone all the time. I even called her at like 8 o'clock one night, and she answered the phone and answered my questions. I had some issues when I first moved in. Whenever you move to a home, there are things that are kind of out of place. But they responded quickly. The maintenance guy came and fixed everything. Every time I called back, they came out right away.

The overall home buying process through Clayton was confusing. They need to set up a system to where they could explain more to first-time homeowners who don't have multi million dollars but could invest in small homes. They really need to upgrade some of the stuff, or you’d be blindsided when you go in. You're really excited about buying these trailers, getting something for the first time, and nobody really sits down and helps you get through it. They could have a better salesperson at explaining the whole process.
Their sales representative absolutely need to not work with people who don’t have money because he wrote me off the first time. I worked with another rep when I went and started the one in Opelousas, and if it wasn’t for her, I probably wouldn’t have bought from Clayton Homes. She was friendly. She was nice. When I walked into the house, I expected it to look just like it was. The quality of the build is horrible. I called and spoke with the rep, and they addressed some of the issues.
They should be ashamed of the countertops in this house. That ain’t nothing but a piece of cardboard that they put together. I understand that this is for people that’s just learning how to buy, but they could do a better quality than that. I just replaced it because they kept breaking. They kept replacing them with the same cheap ones that we buy from Walmart. As far as the flooring, I could feel where they didn’t glue it all the way down together because it’s gapping and this trailer is not even that old. My whole thing is that they need to help people like me. Just because I started out buying a small house does not mean that I won’t go back and buy a bigger house. It was supposed to be an exciting experience, but it wasn’t. I wouldn’t buy my second house from Clayton Homes.

My sister bought a home with Clayton and I liked her home. But her process was much better than mine. Hers was smooth and issues were fixed immediately. Mine has not been an easy one. It took a lot longer than anticipated. I was told that I would be in the house first by Thanksgiving of last year then it was Christmas of last year then it was February. I got an exact date in March. I gave my landlord notice and I arranged for movers. I got to Delaware and my house wasn't ready. This was in the first height of the pandemic. I had to live in a hotel for three and a half weeks with two dogs, which was not cheap. There was no food and only one change of clothes. I spent a lot of money.
I'm dealing with Clayton right now and they're basically refusing to reimburse me. It has not been a good deal. For every new home, there's a punch list. I moved at the end of April of this year and I still have punch list items. I get that there's COVID and I don't want a bunch of strange people in my house. But there are just certain things. For instance, I have a gas fireplace that doesn't work and it's getting cold. Clayton knows this. I'm still waiting for someone to come fix it.
Also, I ended up talking to a district manager but he was less than helpful. He was very combative and was trying to put things that were not done in the house on me. For instance, there was no garbage disposal. He apparently checked my contract and said they were not gonna come and put in a garbage disposal at no charge to me. I've got a 30-year mortgage and I'm paying for that garbage disposal for 30 years. That was included in the price of the house. It's just ridiculous things like that. I don't know who he is used to dealing with and whether he really thought he was snowing me. Maybe it's because he's a man and I'm a woman therefore I must not understand these things. There has not been a lot of satisfaction.

My wife and I were in the process of buying our land and we were undecided if we're gonna build or buy something to put there. We were looking around and we happened to be driving by Clayton Homes on the Gulf Freeway in Houston. Jennifer was our rep and she was great. It's just we had some other issues and a lot of it had to do with COVID starting then it flared up. That delayed us big time with the contractors. The contractor that Clayton used for us to get our land improvements was also a big mess. There was a lot of miscommunication and dragging of their feet. They were not communicating with Clayton or with us to let us know what was going on. I had to step in myself. A lot of the county stuff was shut down for a little while so I had to keep checking to see when they were gonna open up. We're renting somewhere so we're trying to not pay rent and get our mortgage started at the same time.
Finally, the counties opened back up to do inspections and surveys. The contractor was sending us emails like, "How do you know? Who told you this?" I'm going back and forth with them. I'm calling them every day to find out because we're trying to get moved into our home. They weren't checking on anything. They were just waiting until they felt like doing stuff. Overall, the experience was good. But I would recommend everybody to do their own land improvements if they can instead of having somebody else do it for them. They could pick their contractor. We couldn't do that because of our financial situation so we had to roll that into our loan.

We were looking for an inexpensive home to purchase for our daughter, and very quickly. Clayton Homes had a model that we liked. We liked the floor plan and the price was competitive. When we got started with them, everything went really well. We were trying to find out when the home was gonna be delivered. Then COVID just started and that kinda messed stuff up. So, I couldn't blame them for that. We had to call and push it along in terms that we still need that house delivered because everything was ready. It ended up turning out okay and it got set up with no problems.
We still have an issue with the stove. We filed the warranty with it, but the stove company is not responding, and Clayton hasn't stepped in to help us resolve that. There's also a leak that they've been out twice to fix on the one door, and it still sometimes leaks when the rain hits it a certain way. My daughter can't get anybody on the phone. When we couldn't get ahold of the people and we couldn't get them to come out and repair the stove, I wished that Clayton would have stepped up and said to swap the stove out for us or do something to help us get ahold of the manufacturer of the stove. They just threw that ball into our court and said sorry.

My daughter lives in Tylersville and Clayton Homes was close. I worked with several people there and they didn't know things. Then we finally got there and I called them back and asked questions. I was really shocked that if Clayton told me that I didn't qualify for the particular home that I looked at, then why did it take me to call them back a week later after I felt like I was no good and kicked to the curb. That should have been a salesman point already. They should have already been ready to sell me something instead of me having to go back because when I went back, I could have gone to another one.
But once we got past all of that, we were buying. We were able to meet what we needed to meet and get down what we needed to get down. I purchased a private property so I'm fine with it. I love my bathroom. I've never been in a home with two bathrooms. I’ve always been in a small home and one bath, and that just rocks my world. I feel like I am a queen because it's bigger than my bedroom. I also love my floors.

He's a real good guy so we ended up buying from him. It was really Adrian that sold it. They also gave us a better deal ‘cause we were going through him. The place next door had a trailer exactly like it. They went down lower than what the people next door did. We bought three of them from Clayton and I've had good experience with everything except one time. It was the customer service after the sale where they took forever to get my skirting. But any trouble I have now, I call Adrian and he makes sure they take care of me.

I looked at Clayton on a day that it was 102 out. I had gone inside and inside the building, it was like 76 degrees and there was no electricity hooked up to it. It meant that it was well-insulated and that was probably one of the biggest reasons why I chose Clayton. I got a three-bedroom and two-bath unit. Their third bedroom was bigger than on some of the models that I had looked at. Getting everything finished was a little slow but there were some extenuating circumstances so it wasn't all their doing that took so long. However, I'm not too happy with Clayton Homes right now. With the COVID and everything else, I've run into a thing where I had to pay medical bills instead. I had asked for a deferment for one month just to catch me up on all my bills but they refused to do so. They flat out refused after I bought it. I had had it for seven months and I hadn't been late on a payment yet.

They were kinda cheaply made and some of the parts fell apart and that was why the guy had to come back and fix it. So I didn't like mainly how it was made. The price that we paid was cheap.
Some of the parts were kind of just thrown on there. The light switches in our bathroom and then in the hallway broke three times after using them, and they had to come back and replace them twice. I didn't like that very much. I didn't enjoy the home itself and the way the builders put it together. But the overall experience with Clayton themselves was wonderful. They worked with us. We lost our first approval which was good interest rate because of delays and second had terrible rate. We order our home, our master bath was wrong, no bookshelves were not our living room. They tried to tell me how to dig hole for house, spent a lot of money and still did not get right.
We had to do hearing for house on my land and they did the wrong size unit. So we had to wait another month to do again. Unit got on our land in October and they did start on it until end November. They kept lying to us about inspection on our deck that they would not come out because of holidays. I met inspector out there and he told me because the people they had out there did not know what they were doing so that why he did not pass. They messed my floors up and have not fixed. It took us 2 months to get our keys to house once we moved in which was in January. We did get them to pay to payments because the bank makes you pay payment once the unit is on your land for 30 days. So they wanted me to pay and we were not even in our house and they will not give you a date on when it will be done.
My house a year later still does not have final because they never came back and graded and put seed down because they failed for that. There was another couple at same time also they did not finish their house either. They ended up finishing themselves. I also talk to another friend that when they deliver their trailer they put huge hole in his put on his lot. Also took them forever to fix that. The staff does not know what they are doing. They cannot get contractors to finish work. They have a complaint line you call but nothing gets done when you call it.

The home-buying side with Clayton was easy and convenient but the biggest issue was they came out and replaced the original door that was on it. I wasn’t aware of it and when I came in, I noticed immediately that the door wasn’t shimmed correctly. It wasn’t gonna keep water out because they didn't seal outside. It took about six months of hassle, and back-and-forth, and them sending their repair guy out to try and fix it. But he never did.
They had to send the factory out to replace the door or doorframes, the studs in the walls, the boards, the seals, and re-floor and re wall. It was kinda sagging in the middle. I work on the road a lot, so every time I come in every two months, I would call them and say it's getting worse. Also, the floor was creaking because it gets wet and swells, and then it dries. It sinks.
The maintenance guy got sent back out to repair it again and I walked in and I saw what he was doing. He was trying to use three-inch wood screws to screw into the studs without shimming the door properly and he wasn't sealing the door. So, it’s making the AC run all day. And then, it's gonna leak through, and so on and so forth. The factory came out and got it fixed. I'm gonna go through and re-floor the whole place because they split the linoleum in the living room and separated it from the living room and hallway, and put these dividers. And there are loose spots on the floor where they pinned it down to keep it free-floating.

My wife saw Clayton Homes on the highway, and wanted to stop in there and look at what they offered. She was well set on Clayton and nobody else so we decided to go with them. I'm happy with the franchise owners but the salesman needs a lot of training. He needs to work with maybe only Spanish-speaking people. I couldn't understand him half the time. If I needed to ask questions, I asked somebody else. If you take the salesman out of the equation, I'm happy with everything else.
For the price of the home, it's the quality I expected. We tried to get something better but our credit wasn't good enough to get the one we wanted. Once Clayton gets everything fixed and everything that's wrong, it's a good house. It's growing on my wife. She likes it and we had a couple of things customized. Clayton Homes itself and the corporation and the other people at the office are doing me right on fixing everything that was wrong on the trailer that didn't get installed right. They're coming out. I had some people or a guy from corporate. The factory called me and went over what needs to be repaired. I'm very happy with that. It's just my experience with the salesman was not optimal.

We wanted to make sure he was aware of the grading that will be happening to our land before home is set. The mover got in touch with our sales rep and informed him that I had to choose a (smaller) different home because he didn't want to move the one we LOVED due to it being 72 feet long. The mover told our sales rep that we could only do a 28×56.
The sales rep got in touch with me and informed me of what was said. I asked the sales rep for a reason why we had to choose a smaller home because once grading is done it will be more than enough. The sales rep then asked the mover about it. The mover said the 72 foot wouldn't make it up my driveway. Which I find hilarious because my parents home right next to mine is over 80feet long and so is my neighbors. Which the mover would had to have seen while he was here.. The sales rep/mover would not work with us at all, only option they gave was 28×60 MAX. I didn't want to settle with that, I LOVE this home. So the same day I called Oakwood homes in Asheville and they said they would make sure I got that same home! The process has been great and so fast! We've only been working with them for 1.5 months maybe?
We have already ordered the home, and we are closing soon! They have been top notch on top of everything. Very willing to help you in anyway possible. I would recommend them to anyone. When I messaged Ian the sales rep and informed him I was proceeding elsewhere and he didn't care at all. He was "sorry to hear that" didn't even try to work with us. I'm glad we went to Oakwood and didn't settle with Ian and the mover for the smaller home.

However, I've got some concerns with the quality of the home especially now that it's been settled. There was a problem with the tile in the shower. It's been ongoing since the house was installed and it still has not been resolved. The follow through from Clayton is not the greatest.

Clayton Homes had what I wanted and the process was alright in the beginning but it turned out to be a bad experience. They hooked me up with a contractor and whoever they used for their contractor was very late. They told me they could put the house in in wintertime where I live. There’s no way that they could do that because of the snow but I asked the rep about it several times and they said that there would be no problem doing it. It turned out it was a couple months late because they had to wait for the ground to dry. They also didn't include any of the permits so when they delivered the house, none of the permits were attained. I had to go get all the permits myself.
The quality of the home is fine but there was a disappointment that there wasn't more communication about what they had got and what they hadn't got. It cost me a lot of extra money. We were supposed to write them a check for it all and it'd be done. But it didn't work out that way. It was $20,000 on top, that I had to come up with.

Clayton walked me through the whole purchasing process and did a very good job. I was really comfortable with Shane. He wasn't pushy and he was very personable. And we really like our home. I like the layout of it. The kitchen and the living room don't have any walls so it's a great big area that we like. Also, it feels very roomy and glad for the three-bedroom home. We set up an office in one of them and have visitors, when they come, in the other one. I'm very happy with it. The only thing is we would have liked to have a set of stairs when they first had this home set up. We borrowed some from our friends in another city and we got that done but if that were provided, it would've been a nice gift.

My wife had a Clayton home when we lived in Colorado and they had the trailer at the right price and what we were looking for so we decided to work with them. The buying process was very long. It was a bad time to be buying anything at the time because of the COVID stuff. But the process wasn't all that bad. The rep we worked with, James, tried to help us get everything fixed. I had bricks that fall off the wall, cracks in the ceiling, and water damage problems going on. We've had contractors out here, good ones and bad ones, and they've been constantly working. I've had some that I told Clayton I didn't want ever coming back. But I still need them to come out and I haven't heard from the company for a couple of weeks or so. They should be out here fixing the back room that's messed up and they're taking forever.

Also, the general manager is super nice. They explained the process, the warranties, and all that good stuff. The model that we chose is large and that was what really sold it. We needed a four-bedroom and it gave us the space that we needed.

We were out shopping last fall looking to see what we might purchase to put on our little lot. We just happened to buy a lot down there and decided we're gonna put a trailer on it. We did some looking around and five different dealers came up with the floor plan that Clayton had that we liked the best, so we went with Clayton. Jennifer, the home consultant, did a great job. Clayton's staff did an excellent job, but the quality of manufacturing leaves a lot to be desired. Once we got the home and started looking and finding things, we're really not very happy about that part of it.
A lot of the trim is coming off in places. They didn't clean the floor, so we got bumps underneath the linoleum. That's gonna end up wearing a hole in it. And they just didn't clean it very well. We were really surprised with the quality of workmanship. It's stuff that you don't see when you first walk through that. We're only there on weekends, so every weekend, we seem to find something else that just ain't quite right or could've been done better.

Our experience with Clayton was a headache. No one would communicate with me. Everyone in the office couldn't even tell me my house was arriving. I had to let people know that the house showed up on my property. My big thing was you need to let me know when you're coming out there 'cause I've got animals and I need to lock up and I keep my property locked up. So, I have to unlock gates for people to come in. I had people show up and I had to leave work early 'cause no one would call and give me a time.
When I tried to get ahold of people, they still couldn't tell me anything. When my house showed up, the truck driver let me know. I've talked to Kurt in the office and he told me the house would show up on a Friday but the house showed up on a Monday, and he didn't even know. It went to the yard. But everyone that came out there and worked on the house was great. They cleaned up and they didn't leave a mess. They also let us know when they were showing up.

I told him what I wanted and he showed me the houses. I really liked all of them. It was just an all-around good job.
I'm a big kitchen person, so my home, it's got the island, with a lower height island on the other side of it. I really like that. However, a lot of my trim pieces are not nailed down all the way. They just finished on it. They were just put everywhere. It wasn't uniform. When I got in my house, they didn't really clean it very well. There were footprints on my wall. I’m assuming when they were putting the sheetrock up, they were walking on top of it. But I would definitely buy from Clayton again. I have referred people to the salesman I worked with as well.

Clayton had outstanding services, especially our salesman TJ. He did pretty good. He was the one who kinda hooked us with Clayton and gave us a good deal on the house that we were looking for. Compared to Clayton, all the other competitors' quality wasn't as good. And although we had a bunch of delays, setbacks, and it took a little longer than normal, the process went pretty smoothly. The house overall is a good one although there were a few minor things like the sink faucets seemed a little bit on the cheaper end. Recently, the whole faucet spigot part shut right off and water started shooting up in the ceiling. We ended up having to replace that. Also, there's a little bit of trim coming off from the house settling. Other than those, everything was good. The electricity bill is a lot better than a normal-sized house or a motor trailer. The house definitely way better insulated and I'm not paying as much.

By the end of September they gave us the keys to the house because the contract was going to be done by the end of September but the was not finish. David in Newport News said he was going to finish it but today we still have a damage refrigerator, a crack window, a crack panel in the kitchen, a toilet in the guest room that needs to be change. I had to fix some doors myself, the driveway still not done yet so I have to park my Harley and one of the cars out in the street and the list keep going.
I call them every day but they always have a different excuse. Sold my other house in May, 2020 because David said it was going to be done in time been living in a hotel since and I just move to the house this week because I couldnt wait no more. If I knew this was going to go this way I would it buy a regular home and not a house from Clayton. Many promises nothing has been done. Here in Clayton NEW PORT if they said is going to be done in less than a year dont trust them cause is not going to happen. Our home buying process with Clayton all went smoothly and nicely. They did great, answered any questions I had and came back if I needed anything. It's a really good home. I bought a home that was a two-bedroom that had been on the lot a year. We just went through Hurricane Laura and Delta. I live in a trailer park and almost every trailer was devastated and unlivable. I lost little sidings, shingles and the skirting. But, nothing happened to the inside. It held up. It was one of the only ones that did and I'm thankful for that.

Our sales experience with Clayton was wonderful. We had the best people. They allowed us to pick out furniture, paintings and whatever furnishings that they had, and they put them in this trailer for us. They furnished it for us and we paid their cost at a reduced rate. That was so far above what they had to do. Anytime we've called out to have something done that they do, they've come out and took care of it.
The home is beautiful. However, it's got some problems that need to be fixed and it's something that Clayton has to do. The countertop in the kitchen leans. It's got a hump on one part then goes down to the corner. That's the major thing. We've asked them to be addressed so many times but we've not got a phone call so Clayton's service sucks. The company itself is not taking care of business. If I had a way of contacting them, I’d call them. But they've already had emails sent to them from the place where we bought it. I don't know if they're waiting until the year warranty is gone.
Everything else, if there was something needed to be fixed, we called and they sent somebody out. We had water dripping through the vent hood onto the stove. There were boards coming loose. Our bedroom doors sometimes close but sometimes they won't. They've been out here two or three times to fix that, but it goes right back like it was. The island in the kitchen has a light over it. It's got four bolts coming down and one of them's bent. I also don't think they did a really good job with the skirting. We've got places where it's stuffed in or sticking out.

Our rep was very personable and explained almost everything. But I had one minor difficulty. On the particular day we went out to look at the place, I did not take a checkbook with me. We saw what we liked and we decided to go ahead with it. My residence is approximately 50 miles from The Clayton Homes establishment. I handed them a credit card, which they accepted, and we put in a downpayment. Everything seemed to go smoothly until we finally decided to get to the closing.
Having previously owned a business, I'm well aware of it that there was going to be 3% charge on the downpayment we made to Clayton Homes for a service fee by the credit card company. Clayton Homes didn't wanna eat that and they didn't say anything prior to this. We get up there ready to take possession and close on the whole thing and I get handed a bill. They had refunded the credit card company the downpayment because they didn't wanna pay the fee that was involved. I was totally unprepared for this and I had to come up with the amount in less than 24 hours.
Fortunately, I keep a line of credit with my bank so I was able to do that. But by the time my credit card got credited for the payment of this, it took over a month because that the processing of the credit card company. It caused somewhat of an inconvenience to me but we cured the problem in a relatively short period of time. But this if somebody is gonna buy a house to live in, that problem could've caused a great deal of difficulty. This may be the first occasion that Clayton Homes ran into this situation. I would advise them to put out the word, "We're not taking credit cards as a downpayment."
But in general, the buying process was good. The big shocker was the difference in the price. I understand the price of a new mobile home but by the time we got through, it was higher. A lot of this had to do with demolition, prepping the lot to accommodate the new mobile home and everything else that went along with it. The contract was drawn up on September 17, 2019. But we didn't get the mobile home until sometime in March of 2020.

I have two locations in Lake Charles, Louisiana. I was actually told by my buddy of mine to go to the one in Lafayette because he had just bought the same trailer I bought, the Cascade. We drove to Lafayette, and we dealt with Jeremy and Jamie. Everything has been amazing since then. Even after the sale, they've done everything. Even after we’ve been hit after two hurricanes, they still go out their way to do whatever they can to help me. The reps were amazing. They answered every question I had. They got me everything I wanted inside the home, and they made sure everything fit my budget. They stayed day by day until we got everything, how I wanted it, and the numbers are right. I couldn’t ask for better people to work for.
I liked the fact that Jeremy, the store manager, works side by side with Jamie as with other people too. But he stayed in contact with me as did my salesperson. I’m in sales myself, and you don’t get that very often. It’s just locked down the right house and the right to own everything in it and got everything, and then we closed on it. And they ordered it. We had some issues inside the house. They worked with me day by day and made sure they sent out the best contractors to do the job and got it perfect until two weeks before Laura, and then bam.
We changed off the sinks. Instead of putting a tub in the second bathroom, we put a big stand shower. Instead of sliding doors, we put extra doors on it down the master bedroom and then from the utility room to the panic room. We changed the countertop to the Dolce Vita. We made quite a few changes countertop-wise and everything else. They got a picture of our house on their website on Clayton Savannah before Hurricane Laura and after Hurricane Laura to show that made it through 175-mile an hour winds. The main damage was just a sycamore tree fell on the roof, put potholes in it. And then whenever Delta came through, it got hit on the backside of 100 miles an hour and it got some more damage, but it’s standing. I’d definitely recommend Clayton Homes anybody.

My mother was an employee at Clayton years ago. I love that the house is mine. I like some things. But I don't like the fact that all of our kitchen knobs are falling off. They slowly have started just falling off, coming unscrewed, then we try to screw them back together, they fall right back off. I like the house in general. But all the issues we've had has been just extremely significant issues. There has not been a lot of enjoyment. We have had significant issues to the point where we waited on our house for months after they said we were gonna get it, it took forever. We use their contractor to come out and do the work. He never would come. And then finally, they would say, "Oh, you'll have someone this week," but they would not come, and then this week, but they would not come. And then for two months, that went on.
And then the house got here and everything was wrong on it. The outside was the wrong color, the inside was wrong, and they never contacted us. The supplier said that all that stuff had been discontinued, so they just use whatever, which we signed a paper saying we were fine with it, we weren't even gonna fight it because we just wanted our house. So we accepted it the way it was. Then it took another month to get it from the dealership, that's 30 minutes away. It took us another month to get it. And then we finally got it. We paid the contractor for land clearing through them. We had 15 trees cut down. He left every one of the stumps in our yard. We paid him for land clearing, not leaving 15 stumps in our front yard. We couldn't even put our steps in front of our house correctly because the stump was in front of our front door.
We had to hire a private contractor because we talked to them for months trying to get them to come out. We hired a private contractor and paid him thousands of dollars to come out, because then it was an inconvenience. Because all the lines were already there, so he had to work around everything we had. We paid him a lot of money to pull every stump up and haul off what he could because the contractor left a good bit behind. He cleared the land and left everything there. So we still, to this point, have a burn pile behind our house that's full to the top because we've slowly been trying to burn it down.
We've had our house leak multiple times, we've called them, they came out and fixed it, then it leaked again. Our front door is now broken because they couldn't get to seal it right and we had the hurricane come through and it ripped the door off because air could easily get into it. Our back door is rusting because it leaks and they still have yet to come fix it. We have 10 pieces of molding they were supposed to improve and fix, but they never did. Two of our doors don't shut correctly, they were gonna come and fix that, they never have. It has been a lot. It has just been a very irritating experience. They tell me, "Oh, we've reached out and tried to contact you." But they haven't. And the contractor left two trees up. He said he was going to come and take them.
Now, we have a next-door neighbor. It's my mother-in-law, but still the point, it's her property. And the two trees that they left up were dead. We were afraid they were gonna fall on our house so we wanted those down. We had it in our contract, everything was fine. When the hurricane come through, those two trees fell down. Thank goodness they did not hit our house, but they fell in my mother-in-law's. So now, she had three trees fall right there next to each other. Those trees fell, hit other trees, those trees fell and crushed the back of our house and her pool. Her company said the insurance would cover the tree that's on her house. But the trees that fell on the pool, those were on us. I contacted Clayton. It's best that we let it go another way, because at this point, I can't get them to cooperate.

Things went well with Clayton Homes. My experience went so smoothly considering I purchased and ordered my mobile home right during the height of the COVID-19 mayhem. I went with the Clayton Homes in Barboursville because of their reception when I went on the lot to look and getting questions answered. I upgraded some stuff and kept some stuff. I got the kitchen package where I'd get the range over the stove, the dishwasher, and the fridge with the ice and water. I got the farm sink with the Cole faucet. I also got the upgrade for the entertainment center in the living room and the extra cabinets and buffet in the kitchen. Most of the stuff that I added was in the kitchen because I grew up in a farmhouse and in a mobile home. So far, I've been impressed with the energy efficiency of the thermostat in the summer. I had been running an aerator 24/7 plus having the air conditioner on and my bill was lower than when I lived in a previous townhouse.

Clayton Homes is right down the road from my work. We like the house. It's a beautiful house. It's just trying to get some stuff done that shouldn't have been the way it was done. At least treated it with respect, from Clayton Homes Lacey, it wasn't happening. And as much money as we put out and the issues we're having and not getting any results from that side of it doesn't make us very happy and doesn't make us wanna have anybody go there with that management. Follow through was not very good. Supposed to be called once a week during the whole process until after we get the home, then it’s supposed to be once a month. That didn't happen unless the rep wanted something from us. There has been issues with the house, and he would send somebody out and they would look around, say, “I have to talk to my boss,” and leave.
One of the times that I had them look at something, all it needed to be done is put back on the strings on each side of the window. The tech ripped the window out and broke part of it, and then took the rail. So they had the factory put a new window in there. And then, come to find out our floor started squeaking. The contractor said the problem was the factory cut boards too short and glued them together. And that's not feeling very well. The contractors that put the house in dug it down so far that we get water in our crawlspace all the time. When it rains, we've had to dig ditches on the end mound on the outside of the house to get it to drain away from the house. It has been a mess. My husband was supposed to talk to them this morning. I'm starting to see some water damage next to the fireplace from water going down. I don't know what's gonna happen now. We haven't been happy. This whole process has been a battle.

We own a Clayton home and got another from them. We walked into Clayton and said we liked a particular home and where did they have it. They showed us where it was. And because we already have a home, we didn't ask very many questions. But the couple ones we had like the insulation in the windows, they answered. The buying process went smoothly. We were not given the opportunity to customize the home though.
Clayton has very nice homes but they could improve on a couple of things. The carpeting should be a better grade. Ours has wrinkled terribly and they said they are gonna fix it for us. Also, there wasn't really a linen closet in the master bathroom. They didn't think about that. There was no place to put your towels and there's actually room. I bought a freestanding cabinet and put it in there because I needed a place to put my towel.
We have roller barn doors but if I had the money, I would pay somebody to come in and switch them out for regular doors for me. The barn doors don't close and they eat up all the wall. We've tried changing the doors around to make them stick together better. And why can't the vent for the air conditioner or the heater go in under the window? They go in the corner, which is the only space that you have to put a cabinet, a dresser, or a tabletop. Those are little things that could be fixed probably with little process. I'm not asking for big things. But I found those things to be a major problem.
There's also the thing with the outlets at the entertainment centers. When you don't have the entertainment centers, you have that big thing sunk in up in the middle of the wall when those should be down on the floor so you could hide them. But the outlets are either on the side panels or on the mantle. Clayton should have it dropped all the way down to the floor so it doesn't look like such a mess of cords when you hang your TV in the entertainment center. Those outlets just weren't laid out well. Other than those, we love the home. For us, it's been very efficient.

When I first started, my experience was great, but then the salesman I had that was doing everything he could, he left and went to another trailer selling place. I got put with the sales manager for that branch. At that point, we were having a lot of trouble with the place I live in. They were giving ** to everybody. I wasn't getting any information of how things were progressing and I'd have to call Clayton Homes every other day.
I would ask if they heard anything or what was going on and the person would tell me about the people he talked to. All I needed from him was for him to let me know and keep me in the loop. I was waiting to get in my house. It was six months from when they moved my house on my property before I could move in. During that time, I had to call and beg for information. I personally wouldn't recommend anybody to buy from that place.
Afterwards though, where things needed to be fixed and taken care of, Pam was great. She does that at the Lafayette Clayton branch. When I call and I ask her something, she sees what she can do and then she'll call me and let me know. She tells me what appointment she got and what might happen. If they need to move them up or back them up, she makes sure she calls me and lets me know. I'm good with that.

I've done business with Clayton in the past. This time, we bought a lot model from them. The home-buying process was okay. They've done some changes in their office recently when we started the process. They had just changed some people around to new departments, so they needed more training. Other than that, my rep was very nice and I'm pretty satisfied with him even though he misquoted us and wasn't willing to back up his original quote. It happens. And they answered our concerns even though it took some time.
Our home is good. My biggest issue was the people that came out to do the final touch-up and the repair. It took them eight trips and part of it was the whole COVID deal, which we understood. Another was the service manager was brand-new to her role and was not really familiar with everything. We understood that too. But there was a lack of communication between her and the guys who kept coming out to do the repairs. It took three months for me to get my house in order where I could move into it. All-in-all, I know that it was bumped because of COVID and because of the changes that had recently happened in the Clayton office. For the most part, they did everything they could eventually to make everything work. We just had some bumps to go through. It was not a bad deal although it was frustrating.

The purchasing process with Clayton was pretty quick and easy for the most part. Austin was our consultant and he was kind of on top of it throughout the process. He had referred us to one finance company and they couldn't get their act together. He was able to get us with a different company that got us approved right away. He was helpful in getting us through the process and making sure that the finance people were communicating with us because they didn't do that. We were able to get ahold of Austin and he would get in touch with the finance people.
We have a beautiful brand new house. We had a lot of issues but they were mostly cosmetic stuff. When we tell Clayton there is something wrong, they have been responsive. We are compiling a list to have them come out a second time to do more repairs. One issue we had was with both toilets. When you have a new house, you expect at least one toilet works. We have a septic and we can't have toilets that constantly run. Clayton kept sending somebody out thinking it was fixed but it wasn't. They went as far as to pay for us get our own plumber out here a couple of times. But it still wasn't fixed. We ended up buying new toilets ourselves and putting them in to fix the problem. There was also the issue with the flooring having a lot of bubbles. People came out and fixed those but then more have popped up. There are a lot of cracks as well and this and that. But the house itself is fine.
For the house, the cost is not bad. It's a nice house overall but there are a couple of things we would have done differently if given the option. We weren't told that the entire house was gonna have flat paint. If you've ever had flat paint, it's awful especially when you have children. They so much as touch the wall and the next day, it looks like a dirty mark. You would see handprints. You could see anything just from bumping a wall so every week, I'm washing walls. We would have had an issue if they told us we were gonna have flat paint job in the house. Also, we wish that the flooring would have been done better.

I had a good experience with Clayton. The first time I bought a home with them, I dealt with Justin, the salesman there. That was almost 10 years ago. Justin became a friend through the deal and kept that relationship with us through all the years. That's a good one. When it came time to do another home, we reached out to Justin and Adam to do it. When we were looking for properties to do a home on, my Realtor reached out and he knew who she was talking about right off the bat. That was kinda cool that even though we don't talk every single day, he knew exactly who she was describing.
We're so happy that you had such a wonderful experience! It's so amazing how our customer experiences turn into friendships, and it makes us grateful to do what we do!

We initially went through a different company and it turned into Clayton in the middle of the process. The buying process was absolutely horrible. I will never use Clayton again and will never recommend them to anybody. They are still making my life a living hell. It took forever to set up certain things and put certain things that we ordered and paid for in the house. They completely charged us for $2,000 worth of doors that did not come in the correct doors. But I finally got my cabinets that we ordered over a year ago and paid for. We ordered the trailer in July of 2019.
We've lived there since March now and Clayton still has not fixed my floor from a leak in a pipe from when they set up the home. Clayton hired a guy that came out and told us that not only did they not seal the ducts, they also did not properly put in the correct size of the ducts. But Clayton got the factory to send me a letter in the mail the other day stating that they weren't going to work on anything else because they felt like it was the air conditioner’s fault and not their fault we had leaks all over our entire house. The leak that involved the floor wasn't even air conditioner-related. It came from the master shower. Also, one of their salesmen decided to become inappropriate over the phone one time. It was kinda creepy asking me about what kind of shoes I was wearing. I thought that was weird because I didn't know him. It has just been one thing after another and the list goes on.

One thing that would have been an improvement is to have somebody manage the experience from beginning to end. Sometimes, it felt like the project management side of it was a little lacking. But other than that, it was a good experience. The salesman was able to fix things as they came up. He knew a lot and then what he didn't know, he was able to get the answer to us pretty quickly, so I was pleased. We bought a model home so a couple of things wrong are to be expected. But with the warranty, everything was fixed promptly. It’s been a good home thus far.

When we went in and looked at the home, we had a really good salesperson. Then the sales manager took over from that point. With the starting of the home, we were given a date to be in it. That date moved four times and we were not called ahead of time to try to make arrangements. I understand move-in dates move, and I allowed for that at least 30 days, but it went way over that. We ended up paying a lot more out to stay in a timeshare than what we had anticipated so I was not really happy about that. Then, there were supposed to be folks out there working, and they were not. Where we were staying was not far from our property and we drive by here. As far as those dates, we could have been in this home sooner had the contractors been doing what they were supposed to do.
When we originally had the deck put on the house, we told them we wanted a wheelchair ramp on there to make it easier to get up and down, ‘cause my wife has a hard time walking. When they put the deck on, the contractors built it with steps. My son came by the house and asked if we changed something as there were steps but there was no ramp. His mom would not be able to get in. I asked him to send me a picture so he did that. Then I called the sales manager and asked about it and this was close to us finally getting in. He said that they would get that changed after we get in. I told him that my wife won't be able to get in there, so, therefore, we cannot get in. That needed to be fixed. He had the contractors right then change it. Otherwise, who knows when that would have been changed.
The sales manager was not following up with the contractors like he should have been, and he is no longer with Clayton Homes. They got a new person in there. She's been right on as far as getting somebody out and getting our home repairs done. But as far as the old sales manager we dealt with, I wouldn't go back to Clayton Homes.

I'm from North Alabama. I've heard of Clayton Homes for a long time up there. I just didn't know how big they really were when we got down here. We started shopping around and we landed up at Clayton. We were looking for a certain design and Clayton had the closest thing to it. I was very satisfied. They did a very good job with me. James worked well with me and Sarah followed up with me after the sale and did a great job following up and making sure that everything was kosher with me and sent the crew out here to fix things that were wrong. And they were pretty good. I was very impressed.
We came in to Clayton Homes living off the grid. We met James over there and he understood our situation because we were living in a tent, and then in a shed that we built, with no power and no water, and we lived through the winter like that. He did the fastest escalated process he could get to get us a home because we were gonna build, and then we found out from a builder that we would be doing what we were doing for a year. We decided we're not doing that.
We went to Clayton the very next day and signed the papers and James said he would get it to us as fast as he could. And he did. Within about seven weeks, somewhere in that, we had the home on site. That was very fast. They really did good a job. They assigned good crews to support the sale except for one guy. We weren't too happy with the guy that they recommended for us to use to clear the land and set up the pad. He was very expensive and condescending. He was a snotnose and we didn't go with him. We went with somebody local.
We wanted to customize the home at the beginning. They gave us a regular bathroom and they settled with us on it instead of fixing it. But the house that we were originally looking at had a tiled bathroom, a shower, and it was a notch above what we got. But they decided it was more dangerous to try to fix the problem rather than just settling. Also, I'm not impressed with cabinets and the drawers. And then, the light switch is not working on the outside, but I'm sure it's nothing major. It's probably a loose connection somewhere. Otherwise, it's a good enough quality. Everything seems to work pretty good. I like the fact that they really tied it down with a lot of straps and anchors. My wife and I like it better than the Jacobson that we had.

I really liked the people. They were very concerned and they listened to me. That was the main thing. The process of getting the loan was no problem. I had some issues back when I got it that they came right out immediately and fixed. It's just that countertop. I'm a little perturbed that the company that builds it, up North Alabama, doesn't check before they send it. The people that came the last time had laid it out on some sawhorses so I could see it. It had all kinds of trash underneath so it was bumpy. I've got a hump of about 12” wide, and about 3” or 4” high, away from where the counter should be. This isn't right. I asked them that if they would take that countertop if this was their house and they said no. I told them that I would sign whatever I need to send it back and get one that's right.
During the hurricane, I had some water that showed up. The contractor came out and said that the people didn't put a gasket or sealant around one vent. Everything else was dry. He climbed up and did it. When I commented that I couldn't close the back door, they came out and fixed it. I'm trying to keep on top of this stuff mainly because for the first year I wanna make sure everything is right. I'm just hoping I get a counter before too much longer because I always have a bunch of kids, my grandkids, and stuff over to make cookies. I really could use that counter. The Clayton's price is a little high but it's worth it to me. I'm pleased with everything that I've run across so far.

We were looking for a trailer because we were renting. And the rent lady had went up all the way to $820. If we would pay that kind of money, we might as well just go ahead and pay for our own. We looked several places, and when we got there, they greeted us real well. They were so sweet. I’m the head of my house. I have a husband, but whatever I say, that’s what goes. I said, “Okay. We’re gonna stay right here.” When we started, it was nice. Josh had just started three months before we came, so he really didn't know what he was doing. But Mr. David took over. And once Mr. David took over, then we rolled, and it was so nice. I loved the hospitality. That’s why I didn’t move anywhere.
However, I have this terrible leak in the air condition unit. I thought my children would get electrocuted. I don't know who it was that went up on top of the roof and cut this hole to get in there and fix the air condition leak, but he guaranteed that it wouldn't leak again. So, he left. I kept reporting that but I can’t get anybody out here to do anything.
They sent people once a month. But when you call in, Miss Rebecca would send me to the one that built this trailer. And then, that lady would send me back to Miss Rebecca. So, I don’t really know what’s going on there. When we bought the trailer, they said it was a 2020. But the air condition unit that’s in here is 2019. That's why they were trying to say that my warranty is up, but I just got the trailer. I’ve only been in here for eight months. So, if they put a 2019 into a 2020 trailer, it’s not my problem. I have a real nice home. It’s just getting everything in order where I wouldn't have to keep calling back to Clayton. Other than that, they are really nice people. I recommended three people there.

There are cracks and stuff on the walls, which is still settling. We're trying to get that figured out. The pocket doors were not installed right and they eat up every time you open and close them. A few things could be a higher quality, like the drawers. They put on the drawers with this plastic, so they break. If you put your silverware tray in the kitchen drawer, it breaks so you have to reinforce it. Also, the covers are a lower quality material. That's what it feels like, but I'm happy. We purchased a mobile home 15 or 16 years ago, and we were in the market to get the new one. We went shopping again and looked at different places. The same company that I bought my other mobile home with financed this one. I looked at the home and the pictures, and we looked at some of the homes there, and we picked one out that we thought we needed, and that was what we bought. The people we dealt with at the dealership, including the manager out there, have all been nice and patient. Unfortunately, they have to apologize for the quality of build of the Clayton plan. The type of work that they've done on this unit was substandard. They've been nice about coming out here and re-working stuff and redoing things they should never have to do. If this thing was built properly, it could have been sold for about $7,000 less than what I paid for it.
They send a guy out here periodically to do repairs. You come in and you have trim that is crooked and are falling off. Also, doorframes that are out of square. It's ridiculous. When we first got the home, we had no electricity to my vent hood. And then, they sent a guy out here three separate times. He would be on the phone calling the factory, "Well, what is this? What is this? Why is this not here? Why is this not there?" Finally, after the third time, they got it wired up to where my vent hood worked after they tore my floor in the washroom. Had to go under and take everything out of that and replace all linoleum in that. And now, I put a threshold where I did it one time, have a solid piece of linoleum from my washroom throughout into the kitchen, living room, no joints, no nothing. They had to cut it and put a threshold in it.
I wanted somebody to contact me from Clayton, but they do not. They could send somebody out to this plant if they really cared and they could look at this thing right now and say, "Man, this is unbelievable. I cannot believe that this was done." The people I've dealt with were excellent, but I'm completely unhappy with the quality of the build.

They are very lazy and poor about getting stuff fixed when they said they would have it fixed within weeks. Now it's been eight months. I’m tired of calling Clayton. Having a poor experience, I’m really against Clayton now and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

I heard about Clayton Homes through word of mouth. Everything was great. The builders were great to work with. The home is all right, but it could have been a little better. The trim fell off. I have glued it back on. It’s just a minor thing that should have been corrected. Other than that, it was a good experience.

My in-laws had a home from Clayton Homes before. We liked the floor plan that we picked out of all of the locations that we went. Everyone that we dealt with was very professional. And when we had a few things that we had to tidy up, they were very responsive and quick at solving the problems that we had. They weren't really problems. They were just an outlet here or there that didn't work. But we're very satisfied with the people we dealt with. Honest to goodness, everything went right like it should have been. We've been happy with it so far. Clayton is a 5-star organization. I've already recommended them to someone else who is looking a home right now. Joe, the gentleman from Clayton Homes, was real nice. He was part of the reason we bought the house. He didn't pressure us into buying from them. He let it all roll naturally. I love my home. It's on family land, so I couldn't beat that. However, some of the trimming wasn't put on right so it has fallen off a bit. But it was an easy fix. Some of the light switch covers have also fallen off. Other than that, we like the shower and the living room.

I was looking for a home and I Googled homes nearby, and Clayton Homes popped up. I looked at their homes and I liked what I saw. It was a home buying great process. They did what they said. They got me in my home within a couple of months. If I had an issue, I would call them and they would call me back within a day. Ruth handled my process and she did great. She was on top of it. Any kind of questions that we had, she walked us through it, even down to them bringing the home out and going through what process would be taken. She was very thorough.
The quality of the home is pretty good. I've had a couple of issues with squeaky floors, and then I had a big hump in the floor, and little odds and ends. But Clayton has come out and corrected them all so far. I had a great experience. I would highly recommend anybody to go to Clayton Homes if they're interested in buying a manufactured home rather than having a stick-built house. It sits out in the rain while it's being built, where a manufactured home sits inside of a shop being built.

Clayton Homes was the only place that sells mobile homes around our town. Getting the home there was less than 30 days. But since March, they still haven't come back for any of the repairs yet. It could be for COVID, but they haven't come back out and finished 100%. When they were moving the home, we had a hole in one wall, some leaky pipes, and just small things. I've talked to them a time or two and they told me they would get on it, and then it would go away. I forget about it myself. I work out of state. Other than that, I like how everything was done and I'm happy with it. I enjoy it.

It was my fault. I had some credit issues so we had to wait until we got those cleared up. In the home, I had a bathtub changed out. I had those kitchen counters changed out. It was nice not having to worry about doing all the paperwork and everything was taken care of when Clayton Homes was in. I just don't like making monthly mortgage payments and at the time, I couldn't afford a stick-built house, but with the prices Clayton Homes was offering, I could get a house at a reasonable price within my price range. I also liked our rep, Connie, and I was impressed with her personality, knowledge, and skills.
So far, my experience with them has been good, but the quality of the home can be improved. They still haven't been out there to fix the problems that I've reported back in January. The brick foundation has got holes in it and it's allowing water to get up underneath the house. And if they don't fix it, it ruins the vapor barrier up underneath the house. And it's going to cost me money to get it fixed. It seems like due to the severity of it, they would be able to fix it by now. They kept telling me that the people would be out here, but when they came out here, they didn't fix it the way that I wanted. That's not what I paid for. I paid for my house to be the way I wanted, the way it was intended to be, and not sit here idling for the last nine months.

We felt that Clayton's pricing was better and the financial options with them were better. Our experience after purchasing has not been a pleasurable one though. We signed the documents in January, and we still have a lot of stuff around our house that's not been completed. We had been living in here three months and found out that the drain beneath our master shower was not connected, and it was pouring water underneath the house. Our septic wasn't hooked up right and our back door has to be replaced. The first service guy was unreliable, and then the second service guy only came once. They connected the drain pipe underneath the shower, but we still have standing water at the end of the house. It hasn't been pumped out from underneath the house like we asked them to, which could cause possible water damage underneath the house, to the flooring and the insulation.
I'd tell others not to go to the Clayton Homes in that particular location that we went to. It may have just been the timing in which we went and who the manager was, which has changed hands since we purchased. When it changed hands, the current manager wanted to kinda smooth things over with us and all 29 other customers that were on his list. On the initial meet-and-greet where he said, "I'm gonna make it a great experience for you," was him trying to get a better rating. We have not heard from him since. When I gave my rating to who called me the last time, he called to talk to us about the rating that we gave them.
I would not recommend that location to anybody. The next day, he called my husband first, and he called me. I work a day shift job. I don't have time to talk on the phone, and he left me a voicemail to call him back. It was to talk to us about the rating that we gave him. We only had one interaction with him and it wasn't like, "Okay, I came in and I fixed everything." It was like, "I'm gonna come in and I'm gonna do that. And you should give us a 10 because I'm telling you I'm gonna do that."
He hadn't done anything to provide us with reassurance that it was gonna be a different experience with him than the previous manager. Since the first time he sent his new maintenance guy, we've seen the new maintenance guy one time, and that was almost two months ago. We have not seen anybody else. We have siding that has to be replaced, there's still water that puddles at the end of the house, there's a hole in our shower, and the back door has to be replaced. There's a whole list of things that hasn't been touched.
Hi Shelley, we want to thank you for taking the time to reach out and share your feedback. We love the house. I couldn't ask for a better home. So from that standpoint, Clayton Homes is spot-on. The rep I dealt with initially was fantastic. She was the entire reason we went with Clayton Homes. Her follow-up and everything she did for us down to the financing options when our bank rolled over and screwed us on a loan once we were at that purchasing client. But she was fantastic.
The whole process with the new rep, Brett, once he took over everything sucked to the point that the day my home was supposed to be delivered, when I was told my home was gonna be delivered, which was in the wintertime. So we were weather permitting. Lots of things had to fall in place. We had a firm date for the home being delivered. My septic guy was scheduled for that same day based on the time frame of when they were gonna be out here and I had to call Clayton Homes three times to find out that, allegedly, the truck bringing the home from Effingham to our place broke down. It was about a week or two weeks later when my home actually showed up.
After talking to the home delivery guys, it wasn't even scheduled. They had no intention of bringing it on that day. Brett flat out lied to us. I still don't have my home complete. They did the home and gave me the keys a while back after I'd been living in the house for about three months because it had taken that long to get things fixed and skirting taken care of, which was still not complete. I'm missing a trim piece under the deck. I was told by the guy putting the skirting up that I was okay to build my deck. I left room for him to do what he needed to and offered to take off boards if I needed to for him to get easier to the areas.
I still have an outside corner piece of siding that has a hole in it that has been there since shipping. We're about two hours from Effingham where Clayton Homes is out of. The repair guy probably made six trips down to my house to work on stuff. Sometimes he didn't have the right product or he didn't have enough product. To me, if you're driving two hours each way, you should plan on being there the whole day. The repair guy flat out told us that they were not allowed to work anything over eight hours. So his drive time was two hours, both ways, and then in some cases, he had to go pick up material in the morning, so that was an hour and a half. He was only at my house for two and a half hours sometimes.
All they had to do was the normal interior work, which I did a lot of the small stuff inside. I put the shower doors on. I got all the light fixtures inside. So the repair guy had exterior lights. He had some work to do. Softening got damaged in shipment, the skirting needed to be put on, the siding was damaged in shipment, one of my outdoor spigots was damaged in shipment. So there was some work, but never a full day was put into my house. I understand that they got other homes and they lost their maintenance man for a little while, and then COVID happened. So he was at home for three weeks. He communicated that to me. But then when he started coming, he was allotted one day a week and that was only two to three, maybe four hours for one person coming two hours each way and not getting much done.
I've emailed Brett at Clayton Homes because my home is still not completed. I will never do business with him again. His follow-up skills are not great. His personality is nothing like I expect from a salesperson. I like being told straight up on what's going on. I don't like being lied to. If something is a delay, then I wanna know it's a delay before I have to make multiple calls to find out.
Hi Aaron, thanks for sharing your experience with us. Customer service is of the upmost importance to us and we take feedback very seriously. As far as the home, we like the open concept. The hallway is wider than normal, which is good. The whole house is fine. We had little glitches of things that were needed to be fixed. But as soon as we called Clayton Homes, the guys came out and they fixed it right away. If I ever had to do it again, I’d definitely go with Clayton Homes again.

I had bought a Clayton home about 25 years ago. We were upgrading and decided to check into some of their upper level homes. We went into the Norris and the home buying process was excellent. We had a fantastic salesman. If there were any questions, he called directly to the factory to make sure that whatever we were requesting would be able to be done. We customized a lot. This home had a wrap around porch. We took the wrap around on the side off and made our family room six foot longer on the one side. We changed the bathrooms, so we could have an oversized shower. We have a modular and it has three sections and they're huge. We've got large family room with wall to wall fireplace and I got custom cabinets. We were very, very pleased with everything that we got.
The quality is very, very nice compared to some of the homes that we looked at that were stick-built or site-built. There's a lot of things that are different. I have very large window sills and I've got 2 x 6 walls instead of 2 x 4 walls. We have extra insulation. A lot of the things that weren't even offered on the stick-built homes. The only thing I was disappointed in was their interior doors. They are very substandard.

I had a guy that did the brick stuff around the bottom and I waited six weeks on him. He would come and start, then he would stop, then he would start, then he would stop. If I ran a business, he would never do anything for me. Because of him, Clayton couldn't do nothing. They couldn't do the yard and finish the gutters because of it. We were looking into the housing market and the houses that I found in my area didn't suit my needs. They're slightly dilapidated or needed repair or there was something that I didn't like about the property or the house itself. Some were just too much out of our budget. I thought of having a house built and was running across an idea that having a mobile home or a double wide put on the same property would be something that I can accomplish. We checked around and the first company I looked up was Clayton Homes. That was in Dalton. But Dalton gave me the sales pitch runaround and I didn't like their approach to handling customers or what the customers was looking for.
I blew that off for about a month and then I decided to give it one more shot. I was looking for another mobile home facility and I saw the one up in Ringgold. I ran up there and then they walked me through the process and won my interest in looking at a mobile home. But I'm not really happy with them right now, particularly with some of the issues with the structure of the mobile home. The repairs being done or checked into are very slow, sometimes weeks or months. We have to do all the calling and when we do, we don't get any response back about any decisions or follow ups from Clayton Homes.
We got no calls from the repair people saying they're setting up anything. And after they came out, there's a lot of things that still needed to be addressed, like a couple of sags in the roof and the skirting around the mobile home that was put on the wrong way. Their repair specialist hasn't given us any feedback as to what they’re gonna be doing or what time they’d address it and I'd like to get some issues taken care of ASAP. I really need somebody to look at this roof. I can see right now that there's a double dip in the roof line and I know that's not structurally on purpose.
Hi Fred, thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback with us! We're sorry to hear about these issues. We reviewed your concerns with our team, and they let us know they had spoken to you on Thursday, September 24th, and that they will be addressing your roof issue. We appreciate your patience!

As far as the people working with Clayton Homes, our experience has been great. But the quality of the home, I over expected. They had nice homes. I have no complaint except for the quality of some of the things that I've seen. I know this was not an upper echelon, high priced mobile home, but there are some things unacceptable. In my small bathroom, the siding for the shower is coming off. We have not even been in this place six months yet and it's peeling off of the wall. It concerns me about other things that are gonna go wrong with this house.
For example, they put a plastic sink in the kitchen. When I looked at it, I thought that it was a metal sink but it was white. But my wife has already damaged this plastic sink. She let a pot sit down on the edge of the sink, not knowing it, and it burned the place in the side of the sink. That is just too cheap. Descriptions need to be more upfront. It needs to have some sticker on it that says it's a plastic sink. If a customer wants to have a metal sink put in, they can do just that. Also, the toilets are terrible.
But they did a great job during the purchasing process. They were very personable, willing to help and got to answer questions to the best of their ability. I understand at the same time, I did not know the proper questions to ask. I had never bought a mobile home before. So when you do not know what to ask, you miss a lot of things and that's not their fault.

The service of Clayton was excellent. I'm a repeat purchaser. I had bought a home before. The salesman handled everything from every step of the way. He was upfront on what they would do and what they wouldn't do. He just moved the process smoothly. When we picked it out, one, two, three, it was done. The interior was what stood out. It had the drywall and it didn’t look like I had a modular home.
We're so glad to hear that, Russell! Thank you for being a life-long customer! We really appreciate you!

Everything was good through the sales. Our salesman was great. He did everything he could to help us out. He stayed in contact with us and got back to us in a timely manner when we had questions. When we got the keys to the home, nobody had walked in and inspected it. There had been a water leak and the bathroom was full of mold. The drywall was damaged in one of the bathrooms. So that postponed us moving in. But we already turned in our two weeks at our rental house by the time we got the key and found that out. So we had to go back to them and they were gracious enough to extend our rent for a couple more weeks.
When we finally moved in, we had problems. The hot water heater wasn't hooked up right, so we didn't have hot water the first night that we were there. They only hooked up half the ventilation system so only half of our house would heat at night until they got that fixed. The refrigerator didn't work and I thought they would bring us another one. But they were stubborn about it. They told us that we gotta call the manufacturer and go through them. So we had to borrow a refrigerator for a week until the manufacturer came out and fixed the one that was in the home. The service department did absolutely nothing for us. Then when we called and complained, the service manager took it personal. After that, every email we had with him was very short and to the point, and he wasn't very friendly. I don't respect anything like that.
Our friends had bought a Clayton home and they warned us about the one in Greeneville. They told us to go to the one in Newport because they had heard that the one in Greeneville had problems. But we didn’t listen to them and we should have. The one in Greeneville gave us a better price. But I would’ve rather paid more to have better service.

The salesman we dealt with did a fine job with us and we worked well with him. He's a good guy and we really enjoyed him. When we entered the deal though, we were told four to six weeks, and it seemed to be six to seven months. There were unforeseen delays with the factory. The factory got hammered and they were really backed up at the time. Still, between the salesman and Jeff (their field guy), they had good answers for everything that came up. I'm happy with the quality of the house as well.

I talked to Kevin and he did well. We upgraded the appliances and then chose the color of the flooring. Clayton Homes did okay and they were easy to work with. But the people that they contract out don't follow up. The trim work would be the thing that I'm having the most trouble with. It's coming apart. You can see wide spaces between it right now and a piece around the door just fell off. I haven't been able to get anyone out to fix that. They put on an extra awning on my house weeks ago and they were supposed to come back to finish it but they never did.

I liked the way the home was and the quality is fine, but the work that Clayton Homes has done is inadequate. Cardell was all right, but he wrote up the sales agreement and somehow he changed it around. I gonna have to go up there and show them the contract of what price is in it, compared to what they're saying. The original loan was for $98,500 and they're saying it's only $92,000. They said they didn't have enough money to finish cleaning up the property. I started the closing in March and they have not taken out the trailer, the scrap and they have not straightened up the property. There's a trim on the corner of this trailer they still haven’t fixed as well.

The house was installed in March but I'm still waiting for stuff to be fixed. They came out last week and replaced the gutter and the front door. They ordered a sink and a window blind but they didn't have that with them this time. They had to come back and patch some of the walls where the cracks were. They still haven't fixed the crown molding, which I don't know if they're gonna do or not. It's been one fiasco after another with these people. They sent their boss out here and he supposedly gave them an email of everything they were supposed to fix and that was supposed to be done by July 4. But here we are in September and it's been an ongoing battle with the people down there. It's ridiculous.
When I asked to get the boss's phone number, they told me they couldn’t give his number out. So I couldn't even speak to the boss again. I told them I'm tired of their lies and their promises that aren't kept or not made. I still feel they owe me money back because things never got done that were supposed to be done. They said I just bought a normal home where they didn't have to do crown molding or vaulted ceilings. Had I bought just a base model, it would have been perfect. But I asked for high end of everything and spent a lot of money to put this home in. They’re not used to building high end. It frustrates me that I get the same answers like, “Oh, that's the kind of home I bought. Yeah, we have the same problem.” If you have the same problem, then you should know that it needs to be fixed. We're still getting drywall dust up and it's been seven months. So I'm not real happy with them.
They suck at communication. Two weeks ago, I called and asked when they were gonna come fix the stuff. The rep said they were going to get this guy on the schedule and that they would talk to this guy. The guy showed up here yesterday but I never got a call that he was even coming. He was lucky I was even home. He was out to fix all four things but Clayton didn't send the right shade and the sink. So he got the door and the gutter fixed but now I'm still waiting on the shade and the sink. I've had to replace a toilet at my own expense. I coulda had a stick house built better than they built this thing. I will never, ever, ever recommend Clayton Homes.

I would recommend Clayton Homes to anyone, including my family. They were very helpful and I really appreciate everything that they did. I moved here from DC, and when I first came here, I saw the commercial on TV and I used to laugh about it. I said, "One of these days, I'm gonna have me one of them homes." I lost everything but the clothes on my back in a home fire on June 16th last year. I lived in McDowell County and the following week, my girlfriends came in from the city, and we went straight to Clayton Homes. My friends took me straight down to another state, Tazewell County, Virginia and we looked around at several homes. Clayton Homes gave me the opportunity to get the money. It was amazing how they helped me and my companion. I now live on a busy highway on Route 52. The young men who got this trailer in this lot in one swing were pros.

I deliver to Clayton Homes every day so I kinda had an idea of what I wanted and which particular facility I wanted it to come from before I even walked in the door. The home buying process took a lot longer than I wanted it to but it wasn't necessarily Clayton Homes' fault. A lot of that was because I was in the middle of trying to sell the house that I had and purchased the new home at the same time. I worked with two different Clayton reps. The first guy that I started with wound up transferring. So I started working with Allan after that. We got along good. I didn't have any problems with any one of them.
We had an issue with house placement. We went over and we walked the lot. I wanted the home set in a specific location and it wound up getting set in a totally different place, and I wasn't happy about that. It was the only issue that I had through the whole process. I added a couple of plugs in the house and then I changed a left-had door into a right-hand door.

I wanted the split bedrooms, one on either end, and Clayton Homes had that. Instead of 6x6 decks, I went 12x12 and I love it. Everything they did, they made good on, except for one thing. They came out here and saw the old trailer that was here. They said they would remove all that rubbage and that I'll have a clear lot, but that didn't happen. They removed the old trailer that was here, but the old decking, the underpinning, and plumbing are still there. They pushed it down to the backyard. This brand new house is gorgeous, but then when you look in the backyard, you see all that. Still, I love my home.

I loved Clayton. I was pleased with them. They got pretty well on top, and everything got set up pretty quickly. From beginning to end, everything took a week and a half. They had one guy coming, and he did those footing. After they got done, the next guy came in the next day and poured the concrete. Then, they brought the trailer in a couple days later. It went a lot quicker than I figured it would. Any time I had something to ask our home consultant, he was there to answer it. Also, when they brought the trailer in, they had some siding broke on it, and they replaced it for me. Everything I pointed out, he had it fixed.

The process with Clayton was going pretty good until we signed the papers. They brought the trailer out and from then on out, it's been trash. On the way out, they hit a tree with the corner of our trailer and then tore it off. Then, after we moved in, the roof started leaking. The drywall and the ceiling got wet and the light fell out of the ceiling. I sit and waited and they came out and patched the spot so it quit leaking. Then we sat there for two months with the light hanging out in the ceiling but nobody came to fix it. I fixed the drywall and the light myself.
The roof had 200 nails stuck everywhere and singles tore. All they wanted to do was come out and cut the little bitty pieces of singles out that had the nails stuck in them, cut a new shingle, slide it up under, and nail it down. I wasn't too happy with that because I was told that voids my warranty on my roof and my trailer. And when I was up on the roof walking around with the guy that came out to look at it, the rafters are so far apart. When you step in between them, the roof sort of bows down. Also, the lines on the septic tank are leaking and coming out of the ground. It's not built as good as I expected for that much money. It was delivered back in February and they’re still not done with it. I really wish I had done more research before I bought it. Clayton Homes on Richmond needs a lot - new employees, new management.

I have had a few problems that Clayton had to come and check out but other than that, I'm okay with my home. I had a problem with my door, and it seemed like the contractors couldn't get it adjusted right. So they had come out several times for that. But they were all very polite and nice. The storm door still is not catching and it slams a lot and it shouldn't do that. Doors have like air in them that makes them catch before they come to, and that piece is not in the door because it slams all the time.

The only thing I don't like about my Clayton home is the floor. The rooms are carpeted except for the dining room and the living room. It's like large planks of wood put together and it is laminated. Also, it's sort of grey and it's depressing. But I imagine there's a lot of people around here that have floors like that and I'm not gonna change it because I'm in my middle 80's and there's no sense in trying to go changing things. Other than the floor, the whole house looks really nice. I have the furniture in place and the furniture that they had here is very nice. It looks good.

I’m still not finished with Clayton. The striker plate things were never installed, and the outlet in the spare bathroom has never worked. There's one piece of trim that was cut an inch too short around the doorframe and I said, “That could be replaced, because it’s definitely noticeable.” None of the trim is cut correctly. I understand there’s is going to be little imperfections. They can't check every single thing before they give a home, but the trim work was pretty ridiculous. The gentleman that came was very polite. If it wasn't for him, then I definitely would not have recommended Clayton to anyone ever. He was awesome and he made everything right. He couldn't do it all in one day, and he has not been back.
The consultant that I worked with, April, was awesome at first but it seems like as soon as everything was fine, then she never replied, ignored me and lied constantly. She told me several times that she had already ordered the house when I first bought it. Then a month later, she said, “What color shutters did you want? Was it black? We're about to order it now.” There were different things in the sale and it was a big hassle trying to get it to be exactly what it was that I signed for. In the end, everything ended up correct. She was a super nice woman. I just don't know if she had too much on her plate at the time.

I went looking for a place to buy a home and I saw Clayton on the side of the road. The first one I looked at was the home I loved. The consultant was fantastic. Ronald was super easy to work with, informative, and personable. He knew everything about it. If I had any questions and he didn’t immediately know, he would find out. It was my first time making a major purchase like that. It took a while getting everything necessary but it's finally finished.
I asked for a few things to be done on the home and they were done perfectly. I had the sliding door put in place of two windows in the dining room, so I could step out onto a deck. It's beautiful and has a light view. It's just amazing. I'm so tickled with it and I love it. The other thing was there's a guest bathroom for two bedrooms at the other end of the home and I had that shower tiled like in my bedroom. My daughter and grandson stay with me and I thought that was nice to be able to give them a tiled shower. Everything was beautiful.

So I'm a little disappointed at that because I have grandchildren and they were all here and we couldn't use the bedroom. We still don't have furniture in the bedroom. Clayton was in our area and we liked what they look like on the inside. They were in our area so it was easy access. We had to decide on the floor plan that we wanted for us. And then, we had to decide on the options. After that, we had to decide on the price of the home, and we had to find the land to put it on. That process was pretty difficult.
I would have liked for the price to have been more transparent. The price kept changing. We were never really given a price. I understand there's a lot of variables. There were certain variables in that whole process that they couldn't nail it down to an exact price. They never gave us a solid figure to stand on. The rep had to go back and forth between the person who was over her. She would have to tell us that she had to get with that person and then she would give us a call back. But nothing was ever carved in stone.
There are two dealers in the area. There's one in Buckeye, and then there's one in Glendale, who we were trying to dealing with. They had a home there that we really liked and we were seriously thinking about that one, so we asked all these questions about customization and options that we would have. But then we decided later on, that home was too big. It's too much than what we need. And then, we got on the internet and found the same home and layout but less square footage. Buckeye did not have that on their lot, but this other place had it on theirs.
At one point in time, before we even signed on the dotted line, we had been at Buckeye, and had been told that there were a lot of customization that we could do. They had a whole board full of options on colors and all kinds of stuff. But then, the reason why we wound up at Glendale is that they had the floor plan that we found online on their lot, so we could actually see it and spend time in and make sure that was the one we wanted. They told us there were no options. So, being the kind of person that I am, I'm like, “Why has one place told us one thing and another dealer is telling us something different?” So I started digging in a little deeper, and then all of a sudden, there were options. That was frustrating because I felt what Glendale was doing was to make it as easy on themselves as possible.
That's why we had had contact with the other dealer who seem to have all these options, and they had a clear cut price on it. I understand that it's a different management at each one, but it's still the same company. We thought we would have the same experience. Things changed a bit because at one point, I wanted to cut ties with them and I wanted to go back to Buckeye. I went over to Buckeye and got in touch with their manager. He said, “Well, we have a policy that once you have paid your deposit with another dealer, we can't get involved.” And I said, “Well, if Clayton wants to sell me a home, then somebody needs to get involved because I'm getting nowhere with these people and I don't like the way this is going.”
He got on the phone with the manager after I left. Because I told him, “Right now, I only have $500 tied up in this whole deal. And I don't care if I lose it, I'm getting ready to walk away from this deal.” So I left. I guess he got on the phone and called Glendale, and spoke with that manager. And then she called my husband and said that they wanted to work with us as best they could to make us happy. We were very open with them about, “Well, one place had all these options and had a clear price listed on the home, and you don't. You don’t have all these things.” We already had four months getting tied up in this, and we have the land purchased.
Another thing they kept telling us was we needed to understand that they could not tell us a completion date, that we did not need to try to hurry this along, that we had no control over the timeframe. Okay, we understood that. Thankfully, the people that I was renting my house from, once I got through that initial lease, I could lease on a per month basis. So, that was no problem. I always told my husband, “I'm not gonna continuously call them and check on this. As it goes, they will call us and let us know.” As they contacted us, I took whatever information they gave us and I was happy for it. We signed the contract in June, then the house was ready by the end of August. That's how quickly the rep called me and said, “Hey, the house is ready.” I had no idea it would get ready that quick.

Me and my wife started looking for our first home. We have always rented. We Started out looking at several different Mobile home lots. Just about all offered a turn key package. But Clayton had the better deals as far as cost with what looked like a strong built home. So we started the process and was approved for a land home package deal turn key. We meet, done the paperwork, paid the required down payment. When ask how long it would take before we could be living they had no idea. Said usually 90 days once the house is in. But we were told they already had one on the lot that another couple backed out of and it was just like we expected out. I asked could we view it. They said no, it's not together and the plastic is still on it.
When in about 3 weeks it showed up on our land. The only way we knew it was there we just happen to ride out and show family where the land is. NO phone the first. Well it sat there another 3 weeks nothing ever got done. Until one day we come over to cut the grass and seen the trailer had finally been set up and that was all. The vinyl has not been installed. A few more weeks go by and they are working on the Vinyl and the inside. So we walk in and see there is carpet in the bedrooms. We spec all linoleum through the house. Called about that. Said they would change it out or pay us a 1,000 $ to keep it. We wanted it changed. So 3 more weeks go by. Notice the well has been dug and that's it.
A few more weeks go by well been plumbed in & Power Panel has been installed. Keep in mind have not had the first call about anything being done. We would keep calling leaving messages no return calls. Couple more weeks go by. Get a text message about what type of bricks we want. We call and tell what type we like. They show up within 2 weeks. Sat there for 2 weeks when called and ask how long would it take. The salesman Malcom ** stated they were about done with the brick. I said, "No sir they are all still stacked up." I explain the only thing it's been done is that someone took a flat shovel and scooped about 2inch of dirt out and poured concrete mix on the dirt and left it in a powder form. They waited for it to rain so the powder mix would get hard enough to set brick on (Is this code) then they bricked the house up. What to stop it from washing out in the future and left for me to fix?
IT HAS BEEN OVER SIX MONTHS SINCE THE HOUSE HAS BEEN ON THE LAND NOW. We were told all inspection were done waiting on power. 2 weeks go by no power. I call the inspection dept myself on 8/14/20. The lady that answer said I just talked to some about that same address from Clayton and told them that the inspector would not go out until the following Monday to do final on septic to check if the barrier have been installed and we were told over a week ago by Clayton all that was done waiting on power. Now we have power. I told them not to worry about the carpet that we want to move.
We are tired of all the stories being told. Power is on now and still cannot get the keys to move. Now I will have to pay a power bill and not even living in the home. This is the worst experience that I ever had. I thought buy your first home was suppose to be one of the best feeling you could ever have. This has been one of the worst nightmare I never thought I have.

We went with Clayton for the home that we liked and the fact that they were local. We had two of them fairly close to us. We had a fireplace installed where the mantle was. We had a window taken out and sliding glass doors put in. We're happy with the house. The quality is good. However, here in Bellefontaine, there was a lot of miscommunication. We went through and picked out everything we wanted multiple times. There was some miscommunication on a couple of items. They told us that they were to take care of everything mechanical with the house. And then come to find out, we didn't have a sump pump installed at all. We had to take care of it ourselves. But they worked that out for us.
Multiple times we had to go in and tell them the siding and shingles we wanted, what kind of cabinets and countertops, and the changes that we wanted done with the window and the fireplace installed. We did that multiple different times to get them to come out and actually finish everything in the home, like the trim and the carpet. And then, in both of my daughters' bedrooms, they told us they would be out on Wednesday. But then, it was actually a week later that they would come out and do it. We wanted to hold the last 10% until they came out and finished, but they told us we could not be in the home until we gave them that. So, we gave the rep the 10% but we told him they have to get out here and finish the house. They then came out within a couple of weeks.

We're still working on our Clayton home. Because of the epidemic and stuff that's going on, they're still coming back and fixing some things around the house. What they're doing is because the home is still settling, there are cracks on the outside that they're trying to redo. They said that's gonna take at least a year to a little bit over a year and I don't want them coming out here every time I see a crack, because of the installation and stuff, they have to take care of it. Also, the house is still not set in the foundation. I see cracks on the inside of my home as well. A couple of things in the kitchen. When we first moved in there, one of my drawers fell out. I don't know if they didn't install it right or it came out of the little railing.
There was water damage too but they've already fixed that. They have already fixed the trimming of the windows of the outside. They redid the whole thing and I haven't had a problem. The cracks where they put the frame up on the inside of the home were already plastered. There are just little things here and there. But everything is good so far. I always have only one person come out which I always request him at all times since I've already met with them and he already knows what needs to be done so I don't have to be re-explaining every time I get a new construction worker out there. He lives in the area that and that's convenient for him. He doesn't have to travel that far.
We were back and forth with the home consultant. Ashley was helping me a lot too from the Clayton Homes office. There were things that needed to be sent, so I would send it to her, she would verify and send them out. Everything went pretty fast. It was supposed to be a Christmas surprise for the whole family but we did it after the new year. Everything went well.
Irene, thank you so much for sharing your experience with Clayton Homes! We thrive on customer feedback such as this, and we're so happy that any issues that have risen have been addressed.

Clayton has mobile homes and we checked them out. They had pretty good prices, that's why we went with them. I just had to get transferred quite a bit to two people while trying to figure out which house I wanted and which jobs. The last lady I dealt with was nice and polite. She was good about getting back with me. If there’s something going on with the trailer, I can contact her and she’ll give me what I need.
The model we got was the Anniversary. It was one of the better single wide that they could get for us. It had a his-and-hers sink, and we wanted a shower and tub, and it has that too. The only thing we changed was the vents. They were originally on the floor but I switched them to the ceiling. Then we had heavy rain when they were putting my house out there so it was hard to get out with all the mud and stuff. We also had a leak and the strip kept coming off and they had to re-put them back on. It was a little difficult for them to fix it because of the Coronavirus. But everything seemed to back up after the Coronavirus died down.

When I went to the Waycross Clayton Homes, they were very friendly and helped us out. A lot of the other places just gave us a map of what was on their lot and they let us go and do our own thing. I like the way the kitchen was laid out and the house altogether with Clayton. In the lot model, the cabinets were white and I wanted a brown cabinet, or like the wood color cabinet. The shingles, the siding on the outside, I wanted the greenish color.
The home got delivered to the lot. I went to look at it at Thanksgiving and the factory built the wrong one. The cabinets were wrong, all the colors were wrong, so they had to go back and do it again. Then when I went back and looked at it at Christmas time, it was right. It was after the New Year they brought it out and set it down. Then if I have anything that comes up or any issues that I have with it, they schedule a guy to come out within two or three days to fix anything that I didn't notice right away. I get calls from Brittany asking me if I have any issues or if I need anything or if I have any questions. She's great.

Clayton is the closest thing to where I live and I chose The Dream Maker lot model. I like that it's an open floor plan and it's got a nice kitchen layout. It was just that we had a whole bunch of rain so that kinda threw us behind. Also, COVID-19 kinda messed up a little bit once we had gotten set up too. I've had a few things that they've had to adjust a little bit for me like doors and stuff and it was pretty easy to get ahold of them and schedule stuff like that. I'm having a little issue with my roof thing. There's something going on with it and I haven't had a response back from them on that. That's been about two weeks now. But they've been really nice. Overall, it was a good experience. Everything went well.

I'm getting roaches in my trailer because the trim work hasn't been put around my door. Then at the bottom of it, there’s this hole where I can put both my thumbs in it and the roaches are crawling up in the gap there. Because my door is being fixed, there's a lot after I moved in it. My baby here, he's disabled, had seen one on the door and had a fit. I got up to kill it and I saw a whole pile. There were 40 roaches in my door. I told this lady that I can't get rid of them. My son says that an exterminator is gonna have to come out and I can’t afford that. At the beginning of June, a man is supposed to be fixing it, which now, has been working on it. It didn't start until July when they got my door ordered. I'm still upset now with my door not being done. I called the corporate office last Thursday and they told me it would take 24 hours, but somebody would be back in touch with me. I'm disappointed that the corporate office hasn't contacted me back.
The customer service was good in the beginning. They really wanted to get me in the trailer. My son's in a wheelchair and I didn't want the carpet in the house, but the guy told me that I had to take it that way because it would cost more money to get the carpet taken out and I would have to wait on it. They were also not sure if they were getting that model in so, of course, I took it and I had to deal with shampooing my carpets. Then it was bad enough that they knew my son was in a wheelchair, and that guy told me that the little wooden ramp we got there might not be helping the door any. I said that I have to get my son in this trailer. What am I supposed to do to get him in there? They put steps on my trailer instead of making sure that it was level for me to get a ramp to put up there. So my son cut the railings off the stairs to be able to get my little ramp thing up there on it and it was horrible.
They were supposed to be fixing a few things. I can't get my back door to stay shut without slamming it and so I got a crack in my wall in my kitchen that’s supposed to be repaired. This guy that came out had to do all this. He looked at my trailer and said that it got paint on the strip. I ain’t complained about that, it's a little bit of paint, and it ain't killing me. I understood this guy got a nail in his eye so I was very patient with him. I had to cancel one day on him ‘cause I was out of town. But my sons are still there. They would take off work to meet the guy to make sure they fix the doors and the walls. I got this stress on me and I'm sitting here worried about my trailer and how many more bugs is getting in it because the door ain't been fixed. I called corporate because I said I won't be dealing with the trailer place I bought from no more. I was tired of dealing with them.

He was the main one I talked to most every time. He said to call him anytime and I called him tons of times. When they ordered the home, we hadn't ordered one in time, but we had a timeframe when we wanted me to move in. They had some that they put on the lot and they went ahead and took what I want. I added a deck on the back, 10x12. I'm very happy about the quality of the build. Working with Clayton Homes made the whole process so smooth and easy, even with the land.

We took the day off work and we went around looking at all the local mobile home dealers. I've been to eight different places that day and it seemed like we were a burden on every place we went to except for Clayton Homes. That was our biggest motivation to deal with them because they were willing to work with us and go the extra mile, and we had results very quickly. Mike, the salesperson at Clayton Homes, was the only person who pushed to sell the home. We had a lot of questions and he was super knowledgeable and helpful. He was able to answer all the questions that we had on our first visit. We started the credit application and the process. It was a smooth deal and we got all the information that we needed when we wanted it on the very first day.
This was our first home that we had ever bought. It was in our budget and that was what we were looking for. It was a lot model. There were some nice homes on there and there was a lot of features that we wanted, but it didn't quite fit in our budget. We had always rented before so, we didn't know the process. We had a piece of land and that was it. So, we needed to put a well, a septic and bring the home in. We closed on October but the home wasn’t set till January 10th. Once the home was set, that process took a long time.
We wanted to move in as quickly as possible but we were trying to get the HVAC guys out there to install the heat pump and trying to get the guys out to install the underpinning. It was January when the home was set. Clayton was very persistent that they do this all the time and it didn't make a difference whether they set the home in January or July. They could still do everything that needed to be done. But then, afterwards, we kinda got the runaround with that and that was a little frustrating because we were a month and a half without the underskirting around the mobile home. We were in there for about three weeks before we got a heat pump installed.
We've kinda settled in but we're still waiting for them to come back and fix some things. There was some siding on the wall there that was damaged when they brought it in. Some of the walls are cracked as well as some of the wall board. The front door needs to be replaced. We have an appointment set up September 21st for them come out and fix that but we had to stay on top of them to try to do that.

Everything with Clayton Homes went really good. The manager was great and was very responsive. Cheryl was wonderful, and so was everybody else there. Everybody was just pleasant and helped both me and my mother with our houses. There are a lot of bad quality control issues in the house itself, which doesn't have to do with Clayton Homes.
I'm not super happy with the quality of my home. My mother's was about $40,000 more, but hers was a custom-built house and her quality is 7,000 times better. The things that are just bizarre to me, the light switches don't make any sense. One time, the Tonkin lamps on the ceiling look like a drunk had put them in. They fixed those. And then, some vents in the ceiling were sideways. Not at an angle, but not parallel to anything. Every single piece of trim, you can see the nail holes in. When I'm sitting there on the toilet in front of me, there's a strip that goes up the wall and there are 75 nails in it that you can just see them. I was not very happy with the quality of my home. But in the actual functionality of it, it's just fine.
Some stuff is understandable. The house was shipped here, and there were some cracked clock and other stuff. They came and fixed all that. In this house, whatever the wall covering is, already has a texture on it. It's not painted. It's like a fabric or vinyl on there, which I like a lot. If I wanted to, I could really wash the walls and I'm wouldn't ruin the paint. But because of that, the trim is the same thing, they just stapled right through it and it looks God-awful in some places. It took forever to get anybody out here to repair anything.
The other issue is I had four different times people came out and they never had a complete punch list. They called and said they would be out on such and such day, and that was fine. I said, "Well, do you have the punch list?" And the person said, "No, I'm just a scheduler." But I wanted to go over the punch list because of the fact I had with my mother's house where half the stuff wasn't done on her house. When they came out, they didn't have half the list of stuff. That was one thing that was annoying. It took months for the punch list to get done both on my mother's house and mine. But other than that, I was very happy with Clayton Homes' service.

Clayton Homes has been wonderful to deal with. They're a 10 for 10. The response time made the experience so smooth. What few questions or problems I've had, I'd call them and they'd been right there to take care of things. Joe has been great. Pat, the serviceman over there, has been great too. They have another guy, Scott, who comes and fixes little things. They're really good people to work with. At this point, we're satisfied. I've got a couple of squeaks in the floor I haven't called them about yet but I'm sure they'll take care of that when I do. I feel very good about the space of my home. It's what we bargained for. If there's one thing that should be corrected with the homes is the quality of the doorknobs. I have a problem with my front door and they told me if they replaced it, it would be replaced with the same stuff that's on it. I said, "What's the point?" They're of very cheap quality. I'm just gonna buy a new lock and put it on the front door.

I lived in Panama City for over 20 years and I've seen Clayton there. When I started looking, I looked at a couple of different places and I liked the way Clayton Homes were built. They seemed to be built sturdier and had better quality than the others. Everything went smoothly once we got started and everything just fell into place. We didn't have any problems with it other than a few minor repairs that needed to be done after the house was set up. It was taken care of quickly. I love the 8-foot ceilings throughout the whole house. As soon as I walked into it, that set it off right there. It made me feel like it's an actual house.
Clayton had to order some new drawers for the cabinets because they weren't fit right. There were a couple of things from the manufacturer that was weird. Every sink, the hot water and the cold water lines were put in backwards. Whoever was putting them in was laying on their back. The cold to the right and the hot to the left. But that was fixed very quickly. It was no big deal. Also, it's a brand-new house that was built and there's a lot of dusts that was left so the cleaning could've been better. But other than that, everything was great.

My daughter lives at Statesboro and Clayton Homes was down the road from her. I saw their lot. I liked that they would finance more like the well, and I didn't have to come out of pocket for the well and septic tank. They financed all that in with the purchase price. The home buying process wasn't bad at all, but it was too damn long. I signed the papers in November. It was March the 17th before we could move in. The home was put on the lot January the 17th. My daughter does stay with me. When I originally purchased the house, they told us once it got onto my lot, a month tops and we'd be moving in. I actually had to call them and tell them to come get this house off my property before they finished.
We had a lot of rain in January and February. I agree with all that. But they couldn't get the well and the septic tank guy out here, and they kept saying it's too wet. "Well, we haven't had rain in two weeks, could you please come and do something?" I think it failed when we were going through the salesman. He should have told us to go through the office and not him. But we were going through the salesman because we didn't know any better. FInally somebody said, "You talked to anybody in the office?" Then we found out that he got terminated because he was allowing not just me but other customers to go through him and not the office. When I finally got a hold of the manager at the office there, I told him flat out, "Just come get it. I'm done."
I waited for so long. He kept saying they were working on it. They were not giving me answers. When the new manager got there and I spoke with him, within two weeks, things were done and we were moving. I feel like it was a breakdown but the salesman kept trying to do it all. That really wasn't his job. After he sold us the home, he should have said, "You need to go through the office." But somewhere it broke down between us, the salesman, and the office there. It was like they weren't helping me. I'm happy with the house. I was just unhappy with the wait time, from what I was being told and what actually happened.

We couldn’t afford a Wayne home, so we were looking at modular and Clayton Homes was the only one around us. The home buying process was not great. We refused to speak to our home consultant after a little while and just spoke with the manager ‘cause he was terrible. We would have to call multiple times to get answers. If we spoke to Ralph, our original home consultant, he would tell us one thing that wasn't true at all. He originally promised us when we signed on the house that we'd be in in 90 days, which 90 days was November. We didn't move until January, and then the house still wasn't even done in January. It didn't have a working septic until April. We didn't have a good experience.
They do not have enough staff to keep up with their promises which is fine. It does take longer, I get that. But don't tell me that it's gonna be 90 days, and then it's not 90 days, ‘cause we had sold our house. We were living with my in-laws at the time. We had a child. We were pregnant, and we were expecting to move in, and then everything kept getting pushed back. Then when we would ask about stuff, they would tell us one thing that wasn't completely true. Our house got to the lot in September, but they didn't start working on our property here until late October. The communication was the number one problem. But I'm happy with my house that we chose, and I'm happy with where we're at now with it. We had some issues. It was a week ago but the factory came up and did some repairs and their repairs were very good.

Going with Clayton, price was a big point as well as the size of Clayton. And my home consultant, Greg, was my favorite salesman. He was good. He was one of the main reasons why I decided go with Clayton. He wasn't overly pushy. He answered my questions. He had some better upfront pricing than a lot of the other places where you go in and they say it's gonna be one thing, and then by the time they add it all together, it ends up being $15,000 more than what they said. He did a really good job. To get it there, he knew what window I needed. Then he was always available when I needed him, but he didn't bother me.
I was fairly impressed with the whole home buying process. Jeremy is the manager, and he came to the closing himself so that he could be sure and answer any questions I had because I had a lot. He also made sure that I understood everything in the process that was going on. I have no issues with my home so far. The few little hang-ups I have had have been fixed. Steve, the maintenance guy, has been out here a few times. He always gets everything taken care of, shows up when he says he's supposed to, and then stays till the job's done. I did have an issue with the door, but they came out and got everything fixed up for me.
Clayton is much more affordable, and it seems to be of higher quality than what it used to be. I’d tell people that it's of higher quality than what they've heard about, and that it's extremely affordable. My goal will be to pay off my home as quickly as possible. It made a lot of sense for me to find something that I could do that with.

Most trailers are a trailer. When we walked into this trailer, it looked like a home. It was more put together than a square box. It was on sale when we bought it, but you can walk into an old one or newer model, but on sale $29,000 or $39,000 home. That was what we did. We walked through at least 8 of them over there, and we picked two. Then it was between these two and the one we got has bedrooms with carpet, the rest of it was that wood grain and laminated floor. It looked nice. Everything was set up right and the kitchen was right in the best way. Everything was perfect.

I've known about Clayton since I was about 16 years old and the first time I ever purchased was when I was 18. It was with Clayton up in Tennessee. They have always been top-of-the-line. We'd had house plans drawn out for years of what we wanted and when the hurricane came in and destroyed our home, we went to Lake City, to Deerlake and all over the State of Florida, Georgia and Alabama looking for someone who would build what we wanted.
My husband was working in Nashville and he was driving by a Clayton place and saw The Abigail. He pulled in and looked. It was about 80% of what we had drawn over the years. So, he told me about it but Panama City didn't have one at the time. So, we drove all the way across to Georgia. The woman up there was one of the rudest people I've ever talked to but I gave a brief look anyway. Then, I waited a few months until they got one in Panama. I went and looked at it, and when I started questioning about adding extra windows, doing different things, so on and so forth, is when D.C., the rep, told me that they could do anything we wanted. So, I was hooked. We went to Jasper, Alabama and looked at the factory, which was when I was set on it and when I wanted it.
With the problem now, I called DC, who is the lot manager in Panama City. He was the first one we spoke to. I kept calling until they got that home in over there and then, Stephanie called and let us know it was in but not together. So, I called D.C. I told him that I wanted to look at it and that I don’t need it together. I just need to see the front half of the house. He said that he would get the stairs and we would go in it.
We have carpet in the house and we have that linoleum we paid top dollar for. It’s supposed to last for 25 years. They didn't sand down the floors like they were supposed to and they also didn't make sure that the things were sealed before they put it in. We've only had our home a few months and because of the COVID, the young man, Boris, couldn't come back out and do a lot of fixing. The whole floor has got to be replaced. I've got some places where it’s 4 to 6 inches, and there’s no way I’m gonna let them pack it when I gave $12,000 for it. I’m gonna have to get a lawyer to fight it to make sure it's done.
Also, there are humps. If you throw an area rug down and one of your kid’s balls or a toy gets under, you can feel it. So, that is the biggest issue that I have with our house. I don’t call DC and complain to him about it because there's nothing he can do. There's no need to complain to Jeremy either but I have talked to a young lady up at Clayton in Jasper, Alabama. I was a contractor and I used to build homes from ground up so I know what the process is. They didn’t sand the floor and they didn’t put the board that was supposed to be put underneath this. It's supposed to be a seamless, airtight floor so that the floor was supposed to be sucked down to the existing floor, and they didn't do that.
The construction of it is fine but I’m a detailed person. My center island is off three quarters of an inch. So, instead of it being 3 foot from counter to counter all the way down on each side, it’s not. It wasn’t put in right either. The way that they built this home was they were behind. They were pushing out a lot of homes for the hurricane victims. I get it but what I don’t get is sloppy work. I even had to screw everything up when I came to the house. Even my siding is popping off the house. It’s not cut right. Every time I've had somebody call me and ask me if I would recommend Clayton, I would say yes, all the way across the board. But if I ask if I could talk to them about the factor, they would say no.
There are other high dollar issues. I told them when I first got the home that the toilet rocks left to right and it’s due to the fact that the floor is not level. So, the floor wasn't locked down properly. There were no head bolts put in the floor to hold it so that the toilet wouldn't do that. If you don't put it on the beam you put it on the edge of the beam, it's gonna work its way down so it's always going up and down. You have beams that go across the floor, that's what the board connects to. So if it's not there, and it's over on the side of the beam, then the floor is gonna go up and down. They have stated that they had to go underneath the house and do things, which means that they got to cut my insulation. It’s a repeated problem.
I bought an extended five-year warranty but at the same time, I'm not gonna claim any of this on my homeowners insurance because I'm not gonna let my homeowners insurance go up because the factory chose to do a shoddy job. Also, they put the dryer vents four inches from the wall and it is six inches, so you've got a 10 inch gap between the wall and the back of your dryer, which has my dryer six inches in front of my return air. So I have to move the dryer, unhook the dryer, pull it out, to drop the returned air to take the filter out. It was slap it together and get out of here because they were behind schedule. At the same time this was going on was when they fired that one factory manager and hired somebody else, and put in another one.

Clayton was pretty good about things. My home consultant was Randy and he was a nice gentleman. Every time I would call to ask a question, he'd either get right back with me or find out the information that I asked almost immediately. If he didn't know the information, he would ask right away. He would put me on hold and go ask a question. Purchasing the home was pretty self-explanatory. He went through the aspects of it. The only issue I had was they treated it more like an assembly line. They were trying to get about 12 homes done instead of working on one at a time. I get that because everybody's in a rush to get their home done. But Randy took the time explaining that stuff to me to make sure I wasn't completely off my rocker.
We bought the home right off the lot. The said they had a special on this one and my wife liked it. This is my first modular and I bet it set on a lot for a while too. So there were stuff that the guys came out and did maintenance on right away and there were other things that got broken on the way up. But Clayton did an all right job as far as getting me through the selection process. They were really helpful as far as sending me with paperwork that I could fill out. They also had time for me to sit there in the office and do paperwork. My wife and I went out to the site no less than six times to look at homes and see which one we exactly liked the best. Overall, they did a really good job as far as addressing the concerns that I had. The only issue I've had is with the actual mortgage company and that's another story altogether.

Clayton had some of the nicest houses and when I showed up there, people didn't run to me and try to sell me something. They didn't try to push anything on me. There was quite a bit of difficulty involved in the process. When the installers put the home together, I had a lot of roof leaks and it took them a long time to get that problem fixed. They had to call in some help because they couldn't fix it. By the end of it, we had a whole new roof on it. Once they put the new roof on, it was pretty well taken care of. But it took about a month to get to that point. We came from a little bitty 14x60 single wide that the walls were like paper. You can hear every vehicle that came down the highway. But this home is pretty soundproof. That's my favorite quality about it. You can't hear everything that happens outside.
Evan, we're so happy that you found a home to meet your needs! We hope you enjoy your home for years to come!
