Builder has to be constantly cleaned. To do that you have to take the machine apart. Dispenser for fabric softener does not work and has been replaced. After replacing the dispenser it still does not work. We've had to clean V filter at least once every two months which takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes each time. And it's not easy. Also water drains on the floor when we do this.

Because the lid was not thoroughly covered, painted and sealed, it began to rust within first year. When I contacted Whirlpool about this - they were not only rude, but will not support quality issues with their products. They basically said they did not care and even acted like a consumer should expect such things! Actually said because it's subjected to high moisture levels. WRONG, I do NOT just expect rust. It only formed due to poor quality paint job and was not cured correctly. My Kenmore washer and dryer both, were 25 years old and had zero rust and still functioned when I replaced them with these Whirlpool. It's frustrating that there are no quality, American made products anymore.

It does a clean wash, however common sense does remind people to not over-load a front load washer. If one follows directions, it gets the job done, and one's machine lasts longer without problems. I have used Kenmore products for about 50 years, so when it came time to replace my old washer I looked at Kenmore/Whirlpool. I upgraded to the top of the line. I had been warned by 2 service techs (2 different companies) that had tried to keep my old Kenmore alive that the new ones are not up to par compared to the old ones. The first very small load that I tried, was not even thoroughly wet when I took it out to put in the dryer. 1st service call, tech suggested that I put machine on extra water.

That helped sort of. A few weeks later, wash is not getting clean. Called Whirlpool, they suggested getting the washer cleaner and clean the washer. Went out and bought a special cleaner, $10-12 and two cleanings later using the extra water and extra wash water I now was getting cleaner clothes. They said I would need to clean the washer every 2 to 4 weeks. I have continued to use washer but frequently have to rewash about 1 in every 5 to 10 loads as it doesn't always clean everything in the load. Called the Co., they sent service out, they said it's OK!

In Jan. We went out of town for 2 weeks. The washer had not been used for 4 days before we left. Came home to water all over the floor which are hardwood. Needless to say our hardwood is all warped! Service came out, ran the washer for about 15 min. and said it was fine, nothing wrong! Called Whirlpool again! Washer is now out of warranty. They said call a local service, out of their hands as it is out of warranty! Nothing more than they can do.

I have used Kenmore/Whirlpool Appliances all my life and they have been wonderful. The new ones are garbage as far as I can tell. I have a Refer that is now 3-4 years old and I have had problems with that, a new dishwasher that is 2ish and have had service out on that one, now my brand new washer top of the line and it is so bad I am afraid to use it unless I am sitting right in front of it watching it! Further if you have the rinse cycle on the clothes come out so wrinkled that you need to get out your iron out and iron everything including sheets and linens. Lucky that I did not replace my old dryer! Do I recommend Whirlpool anymore? Not on your life. I wish I knew what to replace them with!

My Cabrio was built in April 2016, it's now Feb 2019, and it's not working. Shows error code of LF, the inlet water value is bad. I bought a Sears protection plan, repairman comes out, tells me no-one has the part anywhere, it's backordered and no way to know when it will deliver. Sounds like a scam so Sears doesn't have to fix it and Whirlpool makes little to none of the part so you have to buy a new machine. This machine also takes forever to wash clothes, sometimes part of the clothes come out dry because not enough water. It's a huge tub, but of no use because there's not enough water to clean properly therefore, you have to do small loads. I always put it on "high water" because the other features like, "quick wash & normal" do not give but only little streams of water! The first one I had delivered made a funny noise from day one so Sears replaced it the next day. This one has NOT even lasted 3 yrs.

There needs to be new legislation placed upon these companies with regards to the products they make. It should be illegal to make such junk and be able to charge high dollar for it and it doesn't operate well or last very long. They are laughing all the way to the bank on everyone's dollar, intentionally making products that last less than a few years! I Will NOT purchase Whirlpool or any of their products again! The plastic pieces inside the drum all broke. Every few months I would get an error code. And During spin cycle it would literally shake my entire house. The problem with all the front loaders is the construction of the drum and the drum bracket. They are made of dissimilar materials. (Stainless and zinc) When you add soap to the water then the bracket becomes an anode and the drum becomes a cathode, which creates electrolysis which corrodes the bracket. When the bracket breaks your machine is totaled. I’m finished with every manufacture except Speed Queen. I bought a Top loader Speed Queen and I love it, it is built like a tank.

I bought this washer less than 2 months ago and I am devastated to say the least as they are not even remotely cheap. Appears that is doesn't come close to using enough water or enough agitation to get even 2 pieces of clothing clean. What good is 5.8cu (largest size tub) if you can't even wash a load sized for non HE washer. I am forced to wash a 1/4 of the amount of clothing now vs my previous standard washer, if I even want half cleaned clothing. I have tried every cycle with no difference.

Doesn't use enough water but appears to spend most of the cycle time, filling with water. I know that sounds contradictory, but there isn't really any other way to explain it. Might as well not even have an (agitator), I use that word lightly here, as it does nothing to help clean the clothing inside. Pre-programmed cycles are not enough to do what you need it to do. Because of the pre-programmed cycles, unable to place clothing inside, fill with water, agitate a little and then stop or pause long enough to let contents soak for a while. I really miss being able to do this with my previous Whirlpool washer.

It doesn't matter how little or how much detergent you use, the results are always the same, clothing comes out partially dry and dirty. Usually requires 2 or more wash cycles to remotely obtain clean items. Most items never even go under the water, no matter how much water it decides to fill with. I am so disappointed with Whirlpool with this fiasco they call a washer, with their name on it and they should be also. I have never owned any other brand than Whirlpool, so I didn't hesitate to buy this set, as I had wanted them for several years and finally made the decision to purchase and what a mistake this was. Will never make this mistake again. Whirlpool needs to correct this for every customer that has purchased these washers or risk ruining their reputation.

After having a local repair company diagnose the issue, we were told by Whirlpool we must use their "authorized" service companies. After 6 weeks of waiting for service, parts and several trips to the laundromat, we had the repairs completed by Whirlpool's authorized service provider. Within one week, our machine failed again, called Whirlpool and they said will not help us. DO NOT BUY WHIRLPOOL PRODUCTS!!!

So we purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio in August of 2017 and it broke down when it was still within factory warranty. Whirlpool covered the costs of the repairs but I dealt with it being down for over 6 weeks before getting fixed. I have a very large family of 11 children with 10 still living in the house so the wash machine runs nonstop. After spending $200 at the laundromat for a couple weeks I went out and bought another wash machine. Once the wash machine was repaired and I started getting some faith in it again I sold the other wash machine. Granted I’m still paying on the credit card that I purchased that wash machine with because I didn’t get enough out of it but I didn’t want to keep a spare wash machine around the house.

2 months later the Whirlpool wash machine breaks down again. This wash machine has had a new touch panel installed, control board, lid lock, and drain pump yet it still keeps breaking down and when I speak with Whirlpool I’m not getting any voice of concern. I don’t recommend ever purchasing Whirlpool wash machines and purchasing the extended warranty is nothing but a joke unless you are ok with it being broke down months at a time. Which in my lifestyle with the size of family I have this is ridiculous with the service I’m receiving.

We then called a person from their company to repair the machine which costed us 10000 rupees after which the person who repaired told us it's just like a new one and we would not face any difficulties for two years. But we are having problem again after 4 months and the new repairer says we need to pay more. 4000 rupees. We could have a bought a new one with so much money. It was really a bad experience. A repair person came and said that I needed to load the clothes in a different way. Different from what the salesperson told me. Still tangled and still not dry enough to put in the dryer. I have to use the drain spin cycle every time!!! My dryer still takes 120 minutes to dry a load!!! Second repairman comes and tells me I need a new computer system and I will have to use the laundromat. I will be happy to provide exact details soon but wanted to share I have had most of our clothes and household items-sheets, rugs, towels etc. ruined by this machine. And it is under warranty and Lowe's in Dallas, Texas where I purchased it has seen the evidence. I rolled in with a suitcase full of different examples of ruined items and some photos. The repair person Whirlpool sent out was nice but not willing to document clothes and said the machine is fine after a few diagnostics digital checks. He did not run a load of clothes! And it takes forever to set up. My wait was over 3 weeks. etc. Lowe's has been incredibly wonderful but states the warranty is Whirlpool's decision and all Lowe's needs is a RA (return authorization from Whirlpool) and Lowe's is happy for me to buy whatever ever washer I like and even are willing to give me a discount as they know how horribly Whirlpool has treated me.

The manager stayed on speaker phone with me for over an hour. My husband is a lawyer and I will further pursue this situation as Whirlpool hopes I will just drop it by March when my Whirlpool warranty runs out or give up from protocol internal exhaustion. As they have insulted me in every way... Even suggesting I sell the defective machine to someone else... And I said, "How in good faith and having a conscience could I do that?" Anyway after spending a lifetime it seems trying my best to get this resolved with a cauliflower ear from being on the phone for so many hours with their resolution leaders and specialists etc.

It is obvious I am about to have to go on social media and do everything I can to Save others from this time waster, Save their laundry, etc. and Did I mention at times it leaks a little bit of water out the front. As it was the least of my worries as I was showing nice tech my expensive ruined 900.00 ski pants, ruined shirts etc. I think the machine cost around a 1,000 to 1,200 so... Will get back to you for an update. I have a whole file folder on documentation now and it is not about the money or the fact I cannot wash clothes. It is down to principle... On my third top-level resolution leader in MI. -Jim- basically had me "read between the lines" that I was dealing with a Fortune 500 company and would never win.

He is underestimating the level of frustration and lengths I will go to not be taken advantage of as a woman, a career girl, a wife and a yoga teacher. I will be in Yoga warrior mode and this is disheartening as all I want to do is wash my clothes. Did I mention all my Lulu Lemon pants are ruined and I never put them in the dryer! Only delicate cold etc. Have them remain intact etc. really simple here but Whirlpool not standing by their warranties. And my whole home is outfitted with Jen-air, Kitchen-Aid, Maytag etc. which are all owned by the same company so I have been a very loyal customer who possibly just got a lemon. Or standards at the company have severely changed. More later on developments hopefully. Sad in Dallas.

The anger I feel towards Whirlpool Customer Service and the logic they use in providing repairs on a “goodwill” basis are unbelievable. After a Whirlpool certified appliance repair person diagnosed our fairly new washer as requiring the entire guts to be replaced... transmission, bucket, etc., we were told the repair bill would be over $1,300! Are you kidding me... the washer only cost in the mid $500 range, and now Whirlpool is going to do us a big favor and cover that outrageous bill!

I told the customer service supervisor to please give us a new washer and take away our broken washer and use it for parts (if there any good parts left in this miserable machine). His reply “that's not going to happen”. He used this phrase to us at least 20 times during our service call until I finally told him I thought his attitude was aggressive and demeaning. I refuse to be bullied by a major manufacturer for a substandard product.

I can only warn you when considering Whirlpool (and every major appliance in our two homes are Whirlpool) that you should use due diligence in your selection. We paid extra to upgrade all our Whirlpool appliances in our homes and I will never make that mistake again. And don’t get me started on the white film that covers my dark clothes. They say I use too much detergent... not true. I am not stupid and understand the HE requirement to cut way back on soap.

The cycle times jump around from the original time it tells you and the smell is just so bad. The little tray where you put liquid detergent doesn't even have a way to drain the detergent into the laundry properly and after every wash I have to dump the tray out because it stays filled with water where the water comes in and causes the detergent to rise out of the tiny hole on top. You might as well just add the detergent directly onto your clothes. I use an excellent brand of detergent that has top reviews and my clothes still don't come out smelling good from this washer. I have tried other detergents too to make sure it wasn't that one. I wish my hubby and I would've never paid for this thing and gone with a different one.

All washes have to be put on the deep water cycle and some loads have totally dry spots on clothes where the clothes did not even get wet after the washer went thru the complete cycle.

Also, get this, this washing machine even has to be cleaned itself with a cleaning tablet run thru a cleaning cycle. What happens are the clothes get a nasty, slimy, white muck on them. Even, immediately after the washer gets cleaned, sometimes the clothes 32nd up with this muck on them again. If you do not see this muck on your clothes before putting in the junk dryer, then the clothes have to be washed and dried again. This washer is supposed to be efficient, not a chance. It gets costly having to purchase the cleaning tablets and the washer(28th only two people in the household) has to be cleaned a lot more than what the manufacturer says and I called and asked. It looked like it was wet from the window but when I dug through the clothes I pulled out a t-shirt that was almost bone dry. Some of the other thicker clothes like jeans etc. had a lot of dry spots too. This is why the odors don’t come out and why spots and lines are left where the dry meets the wet. There just isn’t enough water get all the material wet.

I then proceeded to pour a pail of water in to get all the clothes wet. When I started it back up, it drained some of the water and I still had the problem. So now I get all the clothes wet in the sink before I put them in the washer. It’s amazing how clean they got and they didn’t have the body odors either. I think this machine would be fine if it could be reprogrammed to add more water for cycles. I know that would change the “Energy Star” but this water saving idea is bogus if we have to rewash and add more water to the cycles. At this point I will be looking for a new machine that doesn’t have the energy star but allows me to adjust the water myself. I do not trust these machines anymore.

First off, took five weeks to get the damned thing delivered after buying it at Lowe's Home Improvement. Have problems with the drain overflowing when the washer tries to empty. Major plumbing work to rectify that. My complaint with Whirlpool is the washer doesn't work. It will partially fill and then stops. The wash light then lights up and nothing happens. I let it sit for three hours and the clothes never washed. It took an act of God to get the washer to empty. It never did spin the clothes. The washer refuses to work through the cycles. $1500 wasted on this POS! Trying to get an appointment scheduled is equally frustrating on Whirlpool's website. Never again will I buy Whirlpool!

I bought the Whirlpool WTW 5000DW1 washer and dryer to go with it. Within the first 2 weeks the plastic handle broke on the dryer. I've been using the corner of the plastic handle ever since to open the dryer. The washer is the worst washer I have ever purchased in my life. The tub doesn't fill up over the clothes half the time. It is perfectly balanced on the floor but it always bounces around and you cannot open it to rearrange the clothes because they lock the lid. The only option is to try to hold it and wait for it to finish or start over by pressing the button for at least 3 seconds.

I have had a few items get shredded by it and a lot of times the clothes don't get cleaned and rinsed properly. Even on 2 rinse option. Just the fact that it has a 2 rinse option is a big red flag. It is supposed to be a energy saver and water saver but that isn't true. If you have to wash and rinse the clothes twice because it has spots from the detergent still on the sheets, something just isn't right. Whirlpool shouldn't even put a product like this on the market. I have owned many Whirlpool products before this but this is the last Whirlpool product I will ever buy. Obviously Whirlpool doesn't test its products or care about quality.

It makes a very loud annoying sound through at least a third of the cycle (which I was just told by Whirlpool is the normal agitating sound). We have also had to have service out here twice in the first few months because some of the clothes come out dirty in areas that were folded over because of lack of water even on the high water setting. It also, ripped my favorite white blouse right in half. Trust me DON'T buy it, you will be sorry.

My review merely echoes the other 1-star reviews I've read below, but I'm including it anyway. We bought the Whirlpool Cabrio from Lowe's in 2013. Two weeks ago, a mere five years after purchase and shortly after our warranty expired, it broke. It kept showing the UL code and took multiple cycles to wash the clothes. Unacceptable. We called the technician; he came out; told us it was the bearing that busted; and quoted us $800 to fix it (I noticed below another customer was quoted $400 for the same issue). We told the technician thanks but no thanks and purchased a $450 Samsung washer. Our family will never purchase any Whirlpool product again. From their customer service to the performance of their machines-- it's all very much lacking.

The other machine lasted 15 years so go figure. We purchased the Cabrio from Lowe's. Got the extended warranty but as it goes the machine fails when all warranties expires. Over the last couple of weeks this machine started to not complete a wash cycle. All lights go off except for spin light and machine stops.

Even asked the person in charge of washers and dryers at Lowe's about this who then told me to get an extension cord and plug it into a different outlet. Seriously! I have had to unplug the machine after it fails to complete cycle, wait 5 minutes or so, plug it back in, select rinse and spin, it fails again 13 minutes left in cycle, unplug again, plug it back in, select drain and spin, wait for it to MAYBE complete that cycle. Do not purchase this type of machine. Just for a technician to come look at it is $100 or more and to replace whatever circuit board is probably another $300 or more. Screw that! Going to find a good old fashion one if possible. Piece of junk. Not going to spend $700 or $1000 just to wash clothes for 2 people.

After several more calls they scheduled a service call in 10 days.

We are a family of four, yes no washer is a problem. Finally the technician showed up and said the main bolt holding the drum assembly in place had broken off. He would have to order the bolt. It is now on backorder for 3 weeks. No washing machine for 4 people and now nearly a month is a pain. Not only did my calls to Whirlpool do nothing but the calls to the third party Warranty Company have been very frustrating. Purchased a new Twin Thin washer & dryer combo when I first moved into my new apartment two-years ago since it was a good fit for the space that lies inside my patio. Nothing BUT problems from day one since it DESTROYS/EATS your delicate clothing. Repairmen in and out could find nothing wrong with it. The problem lies in the fact that the so-called gentle cycle agitates at the same rate as the other cycles, but stops so that the agitation time is shorter, but at the same time the agitation no matter if it's shorter is still too vigorous for delicates. Under contract, so keep having repairmen come at no cost to me other than a complete waste of money purchase inclusive of unwearable brand new RUINED clothing.

Called the company the other day & was told they could SELL me a different one, but they would probably not pay to have the "LEMON" removed. Also, suggested I wash my delicates in a mesh bag which is impossible to do when one has maxi dresses that tell you to wash on the delicate cycle. Mesh bags are made for small items - DUH!

Repairman came again today, and was kind enough to make call to them. Later found that their response to him was that I was putting too much into the washer. Like no way, Jose! Asked tech to forward e-mail to them advising that they were more than welcome to come film me when I wash because that was NOT the problem with it. Already knew Whirlpool had discontinued this washer/dryer combo, but THAT fact was never mentioned. A lot of sites online no longer even carry the parts for it. Found others with the same issues on various sites relating to this now discontinued model which is akin to a Purana fish with shark fins. E-mail sent to tech that was here today asking him to forward my e-mail to whomever he made contact with today via phone that unless the situation is remedied that I would have to take further action. Now awaiting response from the main man tech or whatever his position is at Whirlpool.

Bottom line is that it is a LEMON that has not only cost me money, but excessive amount of time to resolve this issue not to mention time spent online researching this, that and the other concerning this discontinued appliance. Warning to all out there - DO NOT BUY WHIRLPOOL - UNLESS YOU WANT A HASSLE and a lot of BS. Found they already have an extreme number of lawsuits against them during my online searches. So, ball is in their court at the present time. Will be calling them the end of the week once again in order to get this problem resolved unless I hear from them via e-mail.

Totally exhausted from it all. Word to the wise: DO NOT waste your money on Whirlpool appliances unless you want more problems than you already have. I have health problems which are exacerbated by stress, and believe me this has been one of the most stressful and one of the longest things to resolve (two years) brought on by their lack of admittance that this DISCONTINUED product is a real LEMON. BUYER BEWARE OF WHIRLPOOL - I rest my case.

Updated on 07/12/2018: Can't seem to find this model anywhere now. Not to mention the fact that I found it not only "eats" my delicate clothing, but is also ruining my towels, etc. and I use the regular wash cycle for these items. You can't find my model #WET4024EWO anywhere; looked like they put a similar one out with a slightly different model # in which the drum/agitator differs from mine. Now find I'm having difficulty finding that NEW stackable model on the WEB. Leaves me wondering if that one has also now been discontinued???

They have given me no resolution to my problem as of yet, and I'm totally EXHAUSTED from it all. Have high blood pressure, a heart condition, and can't even sleep right anymore due to their lack of cooperation to solve this on-going problem which is certainly not helping any of my medical conditions either. It's causing nothing but STRESS, STRESS, STRESS and more STRESS! Will be filing a complaint with "The Better Business Bureau" by next week if not resolved by this weekend (if I live that long).

Updated on 07/17/2018: In looking at this Washer/Dryer Combo Model # WET4024EW aka "LEMON" again today after noticing more clothes which now have holes in them after being washed on the gentle cycle with the highest water level possible, I noted the size of the agitator. Bottom line on this is that the agitator also appears TOO LARGE for the machine which also could also be another contributory factor to the destruction capabilities of this now discontinued model. Also, inspected towels today and found torn stitching & thread tearing in those also; appears EVERYTHING you wash in this machine gets destroyed. In researching further on their newer makes noticed that the agitator appears either much smaller or has been removed altogether. Hopefully this will serve to aid anyone out there who is thinking of buying this machine second hand from anyone out there that is attempting to sell it vs obtaining restitution from Whirlpool.

We purchased a Whirlpool washer model WTW7500 in November of 2017. I found the clothes were not getting clean and also noticed that even after a full wash some parts of the clothing or sheets had dry spots! I checked all connections and called for service. As soon as the serviceman saw the machine he said, “yes, that’s a problem with those machines”. "They are low water/water saving as per some American regulation and that’s what happens... you’re going to have to live with it." He also suggested running an extra rinse and using “deep water” function. I did this and it made very little difference except now a wash cycle for bedding is 104 minutes! Also, still had a big dry spot on my sheets!

When I called again to Whirlpool they scheduled another repairman for a second opinion, turned out to be the same person with the same answers... I called Whirlpool again and was informed that my washing machine is working as designed! I argued that a washing machine is designed to wash and clean clothes so this one does not do what it is designed for... I spoke to the supervisor, she was actually just rude, also said I not had 30 days to make a complaint and I was outside of that, when I asked to speak to her supervisor she said there was no one above her although she denied being the owner of Whirlpool! It would start dinging and going thru all the cycles at random times. Then there was the error code for the door lock. The door lock wasn't the problem, the surround was slightly warped and the door wasn't catching. Warped I'm sure from having to literally climb into the machine to retrieve the clothes!

Then a few months later it was another error code - the machine wasn't draining fast enough. It didn't drain at all. We had to use a water hose to drain it. After the second time with that, I went and bought a new washer - different brand, dials - no touch screen, and it has an agitator. Unfortunately, I ran into other customers in the appliance department who were having the same issues from 2 other brands of electronic washers. We all went back to as old school as was available.

Whirlpool has been my brand for years but I must say that after buying this washer #WFW75SHEFWO from Lowe's - on sale, which is clearly a lemon, that I will never buy a Whirlpool appliance again. Not because I believe all of their products are subpar, but because the service on these units is unacceptable. The first call for service repair resulted in the Appliance Repair Service company missing the first appointment due to being overbooked, rescheduling and missing the second appointment due to illness, and the third appointment the guy finally arrived nearly five hours late. Supposedly they were a man short. When the technician finally showed up he claimed it was the board and the pump and scheduled a time to return to fix it and then he never showed up... No call whatsoever.

Clearly a lack of clear communication and no respect for a customer's time. I called Whirlpool to complain. Nathan, a supervisor was attentive. I requested a different company and was refereed to Appliance Doctor in North Hollywood. Rosa, the customer service receptionist at Appliance Doctor, is quite pleasant, professional and clearly wants to correct the numerous missed appointments that keep occurring with her Whirlpool appliance repair company. First repair appointment missed due to illness, next he came and did not really inspect the unit completely, and third appointment rescheduled nearly a week later due to a death in the family. No other repairpersons? I am certain it will be a car breakdown the next appointment.

I have no patience for bad management because it is always an extension of bad ethics, which if you believe many of the negative reviews on this site Whirlpool and their various appliance companies appear to frequently miss the opportunity to engage within an honorable sphere. This is a new washer purchased only a few months ago. One technician mentioned it was due to overuse of soap/. The other technician was adamant that it was a sock stuck in a pump. Really? He did not open it up or even check the unit with any thoroughness. Error codes are enough. I was informed it would cost me and that this problem of the unit shutting the door and not completing the wash cycle was not covered by warranty. I informed him that I would call the manufacturer and insist on the unit being fixed. I did so and Whirlpool agreed to cover the repair.

My schedule has been adjusted repeatedly to be present for these various service appointments only to have them cancel with a text. Bad business. I called Whirlpool repeatedly and was informed that socks must be put into a wash sack and no rugs with rubber backing. Again, my jaw dropped. What? I had an Amana washer and dryer for over 12 years and they worked great! So sorry I got rid of the Amana washer now. The Whirlpool is a piece of junk... Poor design and the fact that they are okay with such bad service has me calling around to other companies for a new washer and dryer set that will be on par with my Amana set.

Whirlpool is clearly keeping these appliance companies in a brisk business with such abysmal technology. I am on the phone with another Whirlpool rep, Tracy, who is very attentive and helpful. The music playing while waiting, sometimes for 30 minutes, is similar to a film score, which helps calm the anger of time being wasted.

The dryer has a new heating element that we proudly fixed ourselves after the repairmen told us that these were meant to be throwaways. We just thought he did not want to work on it. After watching several YouTube videos we had it apart and found the issue was a cracked heating element. We ordered a new one for 100$ and spent another 4 hours putting it back together. If we had to pay a repairmen to do all that the bill would have been the price of a cheap new one.

You Have Been Warned! Do Not Buy A Whirlpool. We bought this Whirlpool washer from Lowe's. It is a top loader without the agitator in it. The sales pitch was very good. One of the best washers on the market. It was less than 1 year old when it started getting out of balance. We would stop it and rearrange the clothes and start it back up. Over a few months it just got worse. Now, it will scare you when it gets out of balance. You can't set within 5' of it or it will run you over when it jumps, but you have to set close enough monitoring it or it will run out the door of the utility room after you. Now, I find out the Maytag has bought Whirlpool Corp. Not a good move for them. Whirlpool has mess it's own name up, why would Maytag want any part of it? I don't think I will trust Maytag anymore either for fear it may be a Whirlpool.

I bought a Whirlpool washing machine from Home Depot 4 years ago. It immediately started to grow mold in the seal even though I wiped it clean after usage. I called a certified technician to replace the seal. As he was removing one screw on the lock the Washing machine shorted out essentially destroying the panel and rendering the machine broken. I called Whirlpool and told them that the machine was defective otherwise, why would it do that? My technician has worked on hundreds of machines and this is the first time this has happened. The two managers I talked to refused to help me because I didn't have an extended warranty.

It is true that I don't have an extended warranty but also, I had faith that Whirlpool had sold me a good product. There is no other explanation for the washing machine to do that other than it was defective. I asked the managers to send me replacement parts, but they refused to do that. The last machine I had was a Maytag that lasted 20 years and when I gave it away, it was still working. I expected no less from the Whirlpool I purchased at Home Depot.

Updated on 03/15/2020: We bought this eight years ago to replace a 20-year-old Maytag that had finally developed a rust-related leak after serving us faithfully and needing only one almost trivial repair ($10 DIY lid switch replacement) over that period. I have replaced the water pump, the gear case, rotating seal (3 times), the lid switch striker (3 times), and the replacement gear case is making noises indicating incipient bearing failure.

In its finite wisdom, Whirlpool decided to make the failure-prone main bearing irreplaceable, which means you have to replace the entire gear case, at a best-case cost of $120 and a worst-case cost of $300, plus labor, unless you do the work yourself, as I do. The secondary issue is mold and a musty odor. The most effective way to eliminate this is to pull the drum (non-trivial, requires a car jack, a 2x4, and a special spanner/wrench) and swab down the inside of the tub with disinfectant. (Been there ... done that three times over 8 years.)

Original Review: I am in the process of replacing the bottom seal on my 6-year-old Whirlpool Cabrio (WTW5500XW2) washer. This will be the fourth major repair I have done on it. Fortunately, I can do the work myself and know how to find the best price on parts, but it is still discouraging that a lightly-used washer would have so many problems in such as short time. (It replaced a 20-year-old Maytag that finally rusted out.) Repairs to date: 1) replaced drain pump motor; 2) replaced lid switch; 3) removed basket twice to clean outer tub, due to mold and odors; 4) replaced suspension rods due to excessive spin vibration; 5) out of commission awaiting a new bottom seal. Total cost of parts (labor was on me) is well over $100.

After researching the bearing issue, I find it will cost $250 to $300 to have them replaced. It's also a common problem in this model even when the washer isn't at all worn out and old. The pants still have dirt on the knees. I think a rinse in the sink would yield better results. I use the highest soil setting, warmest water fabric will allow, and exclusively Tide detergent. I only fill the tub with half a load (completely voiding the value of large capacity) and yet still have to run clothes through twice.

I really don’t have time for this. All the kids' clothes have to be inspected before drying. I wish I could go back in time and keep my Samsung which was recalled. The washer does not clean well, often does not spin dry, and leaves some clothes dry after a full "wash" cycle!!! I have to wash small loads on the deep water cycle to even have a chance at cleaning the clothes. The clothes are so dreadfully compacted and tangled that it takes great effort to birth them out of the washer, unfurl them, shake them, and put them into the next torture machine- the dryer. It is as if Whirlpool intended to build a machine to twist clothing so tight that it requires a bodybuilder to untangle the clothing. Then the items are so incredibly crumpled that ironing has found its way back into my already busy life. Ironing is a massive challenge to the degree of wrinkles in the clothing. The slanted tops are icing on the cake. Can't even pull the clothes out of the dryer to the top of it because they slide right off. Cool.

Then only 9 months later it started acting up again. This time it sounds like an airplane taking off and there is a black spatter leaking from underneath, also the lid lock stopped engaging. I started to look up the error code for the lid lock and while reviewing that issue it was an easy fix, however, the noise and black spatter issue led me to tons of horrible reviews about this product. It is a bearing/tub/shaft issue that is going to cost me $500 to fix.

First off I did not pay cash for this set, I rented it for 3 years and paid twice what it’s worth, around $4,000. Stupid on my part but I couldn’t afford it the other way. Weekly payments were easier. Now I am scared to fix this product because of all the reviews I’ve seen from other consumers. I haven’t had the other issues like dirty clothes, not enough water, high cycle times because they all start with a high number but after it configured the load the time shrinks, but this major issue about the bearings, they say I have to replace the entire tub assembly which is half the cost of the unit. So stupid and I cannot believe Whirlpool is getting away with this crap. Please please please inform me about any lawsuits. I will gladly participate in that. They should be held accountable for such a worthless piece of junk. Like I said I am now afraid to fix this machine because from what I’m reading, more than likely it will only last a short time.

Pretty crummy product if major part like a door has to be replaced every 3-4 years. We do not wash large items like blankets/quilts in this machine. That goes to a laundromat where there are oversized machines or to a dry cleaner. So the only reason for this breakage is a default in the lid assembly.

There is only one phone number for customer service, repair, parts etc. Put in my service call and filed a complaint at same time hoping for at least a small discount. Ha! $100 plus tax for service call- part price ranges from $150-230 plus tax. Whirlpool could tell me the part exists but would not say how long it takes to get it! I went from an HE front loader to an HE top loader (Whirlpool Cabrio WTW7000DW0) due to the risk of mildew with the front loader. I'm not the only one doing laundry and if someone else does it, it always seems that they shut the door when empty, contributing to moisture and mold that needed to be cleaned out of the gaskets. I am so unhappy with my top loader HE washer. When I stop the machine and look, I always see my laundry half covered with dingy water, sometimes part of it still dry at the top and it is disgusting. I frequently have to rewash loads due to detergent getting "trapped" in folds or pockets created that hold on to dirt and lint, even being careful with the detergent amount. I run the washer now every time with settings of "deep water, extra rinse, heavy load and presoak" with instructions, with settings taped to the top for others.

At almost 1 1/2 hours each load, we just can't keep up. The laundry still forms pockets and sheets form a giant tent over the entire load that has to be unraveled at the end of the cycle and wound so tight it had no chance of rinsing. I had to get a repair person out because it got out of balance and he had a small hand-held computer to enter a code to rebalance it. When we discussed the issues I was having, he was ready for everything I was doing wrong. He told me I can not wash blankets or large items (I thought I was buying large capacity with such an enormous drum). He told me they have "caught" people adding water with a bucket during cycles and that the washer software can tell them if people are trying to work around the system which voids the warranty.

Apparently, this is a common complaint he blames on the government wanting high efficiency so they make the numbers look good, sacrificing the ability of the washer to perform at what a consumer expects. I have never seen the water in my drum higher than a couple inches and the drum is HUGE, but never used to capacity. He told me his wife demanded they get a commercial washer because she was so angry about how poorly it cleaned. I feel so scammed and I wish I could have my old agitator back. $100 for the repair call, $150 for the code to be put in and I'm on warning that they will see if I try to add water, run out of balance or don't comply with any reason they can void the warranty by just checking the data the washer is collecting on us.

The Whirlpool Cabrio HE top load WTW7300DW1 washer calls for very short 4 second bursts of hot water as it fills. It does this on ALL temperature cycles, even cold. This is because the minimum wash temp for cold is defined as 55º by Whirlpool and in the winter, cold water is well below that temperature. Hot is on for about 4 sec then off about same time. This causes the tankless water heater to keep coming on full blast and then the flame partially dies down only to come on full blast again in a few seconds. With no water flowing during the short periods it's not demanding hot water, the TWH heat exchanger gets stinking hot and the water boils, blowing about a quart of steaming hot water out the temperature and pressure relief valve and shutting the gas down for the water heater due to tripping the ECO cut-off.

I called the dealer, they'd never heard of this problem. I called Whirlpool, they too had never heard of this. They set up an appointment with Factory Authorized service. I spoke with the local repair service company telling them I wanted a seasoned tech familiar with tankless water heaters. He called before coming out. We talked over 20 minutes as he patiently listened to my description of what's going on. He had never heard of this before either but he totally agreed with my diagnosis of the incompatibility of the crazy way this washer demands hot water and the tankless water heater. He said there was no purpose in him coming out to look at the washer because it's operating as designed.

Whirlpool should know about this. I have tried contacting them not only on the phone, but also in a Chat with customer support. They say there is nothing they can do. I asked for a way to contact engineering department and was stonewalled saying there is no way they can do that. My choices are to get rid of the washer or buy a new water heater that would be compatible with this crazy washer. That is a very expensive option especially when the whole house tankless heater is otherwise working just fine. The washer is computer controlled. Just because a computer can be programmed to ask for repeated 4 second mini-bursts of hot water doesn't mean it's a smart thing to do. Whirlpool and the dealer should have advised me of this problem.

I agree with the person who said they would rate it no stars, because this washing machine model (Whirlpool Cabrio Model No. WTW8500DC4) does not deserve one. It truly does need to go back to the engineering department. This washing machine is a replacement for another Cabrio! Short story on the first one: Installed on February 2, 2017. October 5, 2017, machine would not go. Then began a series of waiting for repair people, parts, etc. I think it was a total of four trips -- the first one to inspect, three to install parts, the last one being where the repairman took the machine totally apart in the laundry room and was here for several hours. Still would not work. On November 29, 2017 (almost two months later!), Whirlpool had one delivered by JB Hunt. Well, that wasn't so short.

This complaint is on the replacement machine. Installed on November 29, 2017. On February 3, 2017, washer said it was done. Well, it wasn't! Clothes were sopping wet, had not been spun, and the fabric softener had not released meaning, I guess, that they had not been through the rinse cycle. It gets better! Tried to start it on a "short" wash, meaning not very dirty as that is the only way to shorten the cycle. The timer showed 40-something minutes, then went to 1:36 minutes, then to 1:42. Turned it off, unplugged, let sit 15-20 minutes. Plugged in, started it back up. It went crazy! Water was pouring in the machine, then I heard a noise, looked to see what it was -- it was water coming out the bottom of the machine. Husband turned off the water spigots, didn't stop the water. I unplugged the thing from the wall; water did stop.

Water was in the laundry room, the pantry, the kitchen! Thankfully I was standing there to see what it was doing or it could have been really bad. This time I took photos and video of this thing. Technician is coming Wednesday. We'll see, won't we? Do not want another Cabrio, but what do you do if, like most people with new washer/dryers, you want a matched set?

This machine needs to go back to the engineering dept. There are too many engineering defects to mention. My Cabrio washer and dryer was delivered October 11th of 2017. It is just my husband and myself so laundry was scarce. I have been unhappy with the washer since the beginning and just recently decided to try and solve the problem. I contacted Whirlpool first and was told these machines have great reviews and nothing is wrong with them. When I started describing the flaws, there was one excuse after another and the person from Whirlpool blew me off.

The flaws... all begin with not cleaning which is caused by design. The water level, even with the "deep water" setting, does not even cover the amount of clothes in a small load; the agitator is so small, there is no effect on agitating the clothes; even with using a SMALL amount of HD detergent, there is always soap residue on the clothes because of the lack of water; and last issue but not final is the load going off balance. The machine will walk all over and error codes according to the repairman need to be cleared so must call if it happened again. Well, the very next load it went off balance again. I did not call because I would have the repairman living with us and I am not willing to set up a bedroom for him or feed him. So, Whirlpool does not care if their product needs redesigning, they only care about selling their product and then the consumer is on their own.

Basically the same train of thought from Best Buy where we purchased the machines. Best Buy would be happy to sell me another laundry set... per the store manager but that is all he could do. Will I purchase from Best Buy again... I think you know the answer to that. If they cannot stand behind a product they sell, then they can keep everything they sell, no more money coming from my checkbook to them ever again. Someone, whether the manufacturer or the retailer, should be willing to stand behind their product. But, no one cares. Bottomline, do not believe the ratings on the Cabrio washer. This machine has design flaws that cannot be corrected.

I was thrilled to get it delivered and should have had the delivery man from Lowe's take it right back, when he told me they had just come from picking up one from another lady who was thoroughly dissatisfied with hers.

Well, it didn't take too many washings for me to understand why that lady was upset! I really wish I had done the same thing! EVERY load of dark clothes have to be wiped off to get off the disgusting wet lint that's all over the clothes! That's been going on since DAY 1! In every load, the clothes do not get completely wet and I thought I had combated that issue by having a pitcher of water always available to pour onto the load, so the sensor will add more water... That doesn't work, I now see!!! I just noticed last night lots of wet lint was on my fabric shower curtain liner, and I was thoroughly upset! I just never feel as though anything I wash gets clean. I truly wish I had come across this site BEFORE I purchased my set, and I would never have done so. Is there ANYTHING that can be done for people who have purchased these horrible appliances?

I bought a Whirlpool Cabrio 1.5 years ago and it has already died. Repairman need to replace the control board which had gone out. $450.00 to replace that piece, but could not guarantee that it would be the only problem. The motor or some other issue may have caused the board. This machine was purchased at Home Depot on sale and at $450.00 to repair would be approximately 70% of the original price. It will be cheaper to buy a new one rather than fix this one. We were not happy with this machine in the first place. It leaves the clothes stained with a white powder that never rinses off. The cycle time is very long, up to an hour to wash a load. The clothes are still very wet once the cycle is finished, which of course increases the drying time. I cannot recommend Whirlpool top loaders after my experience with this machine.

Technicians have come out 4-5 times to “fix” it and replace parts and it is still not working. I called Whirlpool today again and they want to send a technician out again. I told them I can't keep missing work to wait for a technician which is costing me money. But they don’t care. They should be ashamed of selling these manufacturer defected products and then simply refuse to take them back. I wasted around $1700/set on their defected washer and I hope they make it last as they will not sell another product it depends on me purchasing it.

I am livid to see how cowardly these big corporations get away with treating the little guy so poorly. But, that is ok, I'm in tears right now as I lost my hard earn money and will now have to buy a new washer/dryer set as yours simply don’t work. You just want to continue doing patchwork instead of taking the appliance back and researching what you did wrong to avoid selling these defected products to consumers. Very unfortunate. So if you are reading this review, please don’t buy their products. And big stores like Lowe's and HD should stop selling this brand. I’m more angry at the way I’ve been treated by Whirlpool. I had one of the first Maytag Neptunes. Loved it to pieces but finally had a problem and my beloved repair guy said it was almost 20 years old so to give up and move on. Obviously, can't be without a washer for very long so grabbed this Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum Washer. One of the biggest disappointments ever! Clothes come out streaked and splotched, don't smell very fresh or clean even straight after having been washed, stains don't come out even with pre-treating, have to run everything on "heavy duty", whites are getting grayer by the week, and all-around horrid performance.

I'm ready to give up my Starbucks, start packing my lunches for a couple months, skip whatever treats I have to in order to get back to a quality machine that can actually WASH CLOTHES. I wondered exactly what it was or wasn't doing so I stood over it for half an hour. Initially, it loads up about a gallon of water and then spits it out over the rotating drum of clothes. Then it stops and spins that water out. I suspect the design logic was that it would force that gallon of water thru the clothes taking some dirt out with it. It repeats that stupid process several times. Then it finally gets a few inches of water in the bottom and the vestigial agitator tries to move it around.

I watched one hand towel lie on top like a dead weasel, never getting pulled down or pushed out or whatever it was supposed to do to get down among the other items and squish together. Life throws me everything from sick kids spewing body fluids to people coming home reeking of hydraulic and other industrial fluids. When I say clean I mean CLEAN. This piece of junk couldn't satisfactorily process half a dozen dust rags. Neptune, I'm coming back with my hat in my hand and a whole new appreciation!

Anything black constantly comes out with a white residue and whites are dingy. I've tried numerous detergents and used as little as a tablespoon and still get the same results. The company just insists that it's too much detergent or that I need to run the "clean cycle" after every 4-5 loads. The service guy that came out said this is the number 1 complaint with these washers and I've talked to plenty of friends that experience the same issue. The company would have you think this is the first time they have heard of it.

I have spent hours on the phone with whirlpool and Home Depot over the past year and neither accept responsibility or offer any solution other than some free cleaning tablets from Whirlpool and Home Depot offered $200 off the purchase of another washer. This was when the washer was only 6 months old. The only way around this is to rewash the clothes and a second cycle and to wash all loads on bulk load with an extra rinse. Yep. Great water savings there! Purchased at Lowe's a few years ago, I started running into problems right after the warranty expired, so the lid was not covered when the glass popped out of the lid. I didn't notice it at first and when I went to adjust the settings for the load, I cut my finger on it. I noticed that one side of the lid had cracked. I called Whirlpool customer service and they said this was the first they were hearing of this problem (uh huh...like I was born yesterday) and recommended a repairman who wanted $99 just to look at the machine. The repair would be hundreds of dollars more, if he needed to replace the entire lid. I read up on this and found there were many reports of this happening.

I called Whirlpool back and told them that since this was a defect in the unit that caused an injury, they should be responsible for replacing the lid. Before telling them of my injury, I was getting the runaround, but one of them suggested that I call the safety department. They immediately said they would cover the repair and parts and sent out the repairman. He said that I needed an entire lid and he would order it. After a few weeks, he came back out with the wrong color. I told him, "It's the wrong color". He installed it anyway and said "OK?" I said, "No, it's the wrong color. My washer is white. You brought silver." He didn't want to discuss it and left.

I called Whirlpool and they sent the correct color. The repairman returned and installed it. No more problems? WRONG! A year has passed and now I'm seeing little shards of rusty metal mixed in my clean wet laundry. I did not put them in the wash. They come in through the rinse cycle. They are SHARP AND JAGGED. I see a few pieces almost every load. I looked in the manual. There is nothing in the troubleshooting about it, but again, I'm reading that this is a common problem told online by purchasers of this washing machine and they are paying hundreds of dollars to fix it. I've also run into all the other issues that consumers are relating here. Holes in my clothes, poor cleaning due to lack of agitation and color issues from lack of rinse cycle, etc.

People: THE WHIRLPOOL CABRIO Washing Machine IS DEFECTIVE! It is dangerous and a health hazard to those who use it. I have no idea why it wasn't recalled. I see there are thousands of bad reviews here. Some have not run into this, YET. What does it take to replace this monstrosity? Whirlpool, if you read this, you are responsible to remove this hazardous appliance from the market before it causes any more injury. Recall these washers and replace them with a safe one that works properly. Do not tell me that you have not heard of these problems. I own several Whirlpool products, but I won't continue to buy yours if you don't take this defective mess off the market!

Because all you're going to get with Whirlpool's washer is all talk and zero action. Thanks for the not so clean clothes Whirlpool. The local laundry mat thanks you when I need to actually clean my clothes.

Whirlpool's front load washers do not have easy access to the drain pump filter. The entire front of the machine including the door has to be taken off to access the filter. When putting washer back together the parts are cheap and screws break. Most companies that sell front load washers provide easy access to the drain pump filter. Buy one of those instead of a Whirlpool and you will save yourself a lot of time and hassle.

I have purchased 2 Whirlpool washers in the past 6 years. Both have been a huge disappointment in quality and dependability. The 2nd washer I bought May 8, 2015 had problems from the initial purchase. In just a little over 2 years I have had to replace the suspension rods, and now the transmission is broken. Both washers had transmission problems. I have bought my last Whirlpool products. I recommend persons considering buying a Whirlpool product check the reviews before you purchase! I cannot believe this company continues to survive.

Purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio 4 years ago. It worked fine until last October when I had to call a Repair Service as all the Digital Controls would not work. It was the Digital Board had to be replaced at a cost of $ 315.00. That was October 2016 and in October of this year 2017 it started doing the same thing again. I call the Repair Service and they told me not to waste any more money on this machine as it is a piece of junk. I guess he was right as when I read all the bad reviews it got today, I realize I will be better off to buy another machine. It will not be a Whirlpool product. I purchased a Sears Kenmore Washer & Dryer back in 1995 and the washer lasted 20 years and I still have the dryer. This is what you refer to as a good product.
