I have front load washer and dryer; I have had them for 16 years and this year is the only year that I have any repairs done and it was only the dryer and it was minor repairs for parts and labor ($200).

Broke the window on a front load washer, no replacements are available and I checked factory dealer, repair locations, eBay etc. No such exists. I love product, I have a set that is 20 years still working excellent. I bought a second set for a second home and broke door window moving it (my fault).. Can't buy a replacement part, need to buy a whole new washer, BS.

I have always like the Whirlpool brand in general. It is a well known company and the products have always been of quality. I will say that recently I discovered that Whirlpool will only allow their own technicians to work on more current washers and driers and that is concerning since I have always used a technician I know and trust.

Whirlpool has been around for years. This is my 3rd machine. I had both washer and dryer. But machines today aren't made like they use to. They breaks down easily. The parts are cheap. I had a Samsung washer. It was one of the recalls. I got ripped off by Samsung and Best buy. I have received the full value.

This washing machine has been nothing but a problem from the beginning. There's always something wrong with it. Things that cost so much should last much longer than a couple of years! I have to clean out the drain about every 3rd time I use it or it won't spin out as well.

The washer and dryer are great. They were a reasonable price and they have not failed on me yet. Thank God. I like the little reservoirs where you could put your fabric softener and soap which this one does not have but it was a good price so I ended up purchasing it. The whole family puts all their clothes in it and it runs on a daily basis so I have nothing bad to say about it. That's for sure.

We've had a of Whirlpool washer and dryer for well over 8 years now. The only thing we've had done to it during that time was to give it a "tune up". That was done by a friend and only took a half hour or so. I don't know exactly what he did to it but the "tune up" didn't require any parts. In fact, when my friend was finished with his version of a tune up, it was as if it were turbo-charged and our clothes came out cleaner than ever. The washer runs quietly, as far as washers go, and the capacity, washing options, etc. are perfect for a washer that gets a ton of usage.

This machine has been very reliable. We have had since 2001 and have had not issues, I'm really not sure on how clean our clothes are. Sometimes they have a odor but this is common with front load washers. I leave the door open and put baking soda into the machine regularly. Also clean the rubber seal because mold will accumulating on it.

We purchased it from Best Buy. It was a good thing we got the extended warranty. They completely rebuilt it two times. In the 6 years we have had the washer. The motherboard went out. The bearings went out. The only thing nice I can say is that it’s a top loader and doesn’t get smelly like the front loaders do.
Reviewed May 15, 2020
The washer is a lower priced but basic machine with few bells and whistles. However this is what we wanted. Less tech with less problems so for us it works. Does the job it is required to do. Cycles do take much longer than our old machine did. Probably due to water conservation.
Reviewed May 15, 2020
My Whirlpool is reliable, however it does not have a soaking cycle which I would enjoy having. It also has an unbalancing problem when speeding if I attempt to wash heavy loads on the extra large load cycle. However, it responds very well on large loads for heavy washing. Shortly after I got it the timing had to be replaced, but no problems since then. Overall pound for pound for the dollar it is a good machine.

I am a fan of Whirlpool and I think the issues I have with this Duet machine is more because of the style but who knows. This is a front loader with lower water usage. It would have never gotten my son's sports uniforms clean. Never. The gasket around the front loading window frequently clogs so water doesn't drain. And perhaps worse, the drawer where detergent goes stays wet so it had gotten moldy and I didn't realize it. Now I remove the drawer after every wash so it can dry and I leave the loading door open as well. That just seems like a major design flaw and health issue.

Design is made so you will need a repair man to clean filter. The machine has to be taken apart to get to filter. About one hour of your time. If you're not handy it's a paid repair About $250 to $300. Also the valves that control the water into the washer failed after about 5 years. An easy fix part costs about $60. All appliances are designed to fail after the purchased extended warranty expires. More features more repairs. So if you aren't going to use a feature get a simpler machine. Please help me Whirlpool! Our washing machine (Model WTW8500DC2) is less than 3 yrs old and I understand it’s out of warranty but we got an error code and had to pay $95 for a service call to be told that we need a new Panel W10838672 and Board W10812418 which will cost us more than the machine is worth. We are looking for a concession for parts which the repair person could have done previous but no longer can do. Now the consumer had to ask the company. The machine should be built to last longer than 3 yrs.
I spoke to Rina in customer care who was so nice and exuded so much customer service and was a great rep. She transferred me to a supervisor, Ashley in MI, who was the complete opposite and did not want to have anything to do with helping me. She said they don’t sell parts and we are financially responsible for them and she isn’t a technician and doesn’t know what else to say. I ended up apologizing to her cause I thought I did something to upset her. I honestly was taken a back at the customer service and annoyance I received and really am hoping Whirlpool can help us.

When I put the clothes in the washer I make sure that the clothes are evenly placed in the tub. The clothes comes out tangled and some not clean. Bought this washer/dryer set Jan 2020. No agitator but has nubs in the bottom. Huge washbasin that will have 5” water in the bottom. I watched the was cycle and my Nursing scrubs NEVER went underwater...ever. Yes, we made sure the center was wide open and didn’t cover the center, at all. Filled the basin 1/3 full. My daughter’s sweaters had been rubbed together so aggressively in the basin they were unwearable because the knit was pulled and fuzzy. Looked like they were run over in the street. Soap never rinsed out of the clothes. Two daughters developed skin rashes. After I took my clothes to a commercial washer and rewashed them, no more rashes.
My mom called Whirlpool. They tell us use NO MORE than one teaspoon laundry soap. LOL! There isn’t even enough water to get the clothes wet! Try Deep Water cycle... Got 6” of water. Load requires an hour and 15 minutes to wash!! Machine is outrageously loud. Now the dryer... Takes over an hour to dry clothes. Not towels or jeans..just cotton t-shirts, nurse scrubs, socks. Takes two dry cycles. Bottom line? Two and a half hours to get one load of clothes that have soap residue and aren’t clean. Whirlpool is aware. DO NOT BUY these! You will regret it!

Whatever the wash is the setting for cycle, water amount, temperature, etc. is and whatever the load, the same amount of water enters the tub. Unless you are washing a load that is about one-third or less of the tub being full, there is not enough water for wash or rinse, thus requiring major human intervention to get what we got for 30 years with the old WHIRLPOOL.
I do not know, but this may be a problem with other machines, but when I called WHIRLPOOL, all I got was, ''The modern machines do not use as much water. Even though you are under warranty, if we send someone and the tech does not find a problem, you will have to pay for the service call.'' If the under-warranty service call is made (We have 11 months left.), and it is the tech's word against ours, then we are at war with WHIRLPOOL, with 15 or 20 loads videoed and narrated and a lawsuit against WHIRLPOOL like the one we did against Samsung and won for the premature failure of their $2500 refrigerator.

When I opened the rear panel of the washer the bearings had literally come apart and bearings fell out. All of the floor and the oil/grease was everywhere. I replaced the bearings but it didn't matter because the drum is warped. Priced the drum and it is nearly $400.00 to replace the assembly. The cost of the drum assembly is about half the cost of a new washer. I will never buy another Whirlpool product again. Just a shame that the cost of a replacement drum is so high. Let me start out by saying that I had a Whirlpool washer that lasted me for over 25 years and done a great job of washing my heavily soiled clothes. One day it refused to run and I tried to get parts for it but it had become obsolete and no parts were to be found for it, so I had to buy a new washer. I chose whirlpool again and let me say that it was a huge mistake. This model is a low water, high efficiency, top loading machine. It has "nubs" in the bottom that agitate to clean the clothes. The first time that I used the machine, I found that I had made a mistake purchasing this machine. It does not clean the clothes and there is NOTHING efficient about this machine.
I have to run the washer twice to clean my clothes and they are still not clean. It leaves soap in the clothes and does not rinse them clean of the soap. What it does very well is extract water from the clothes during the spin cycle. This washer really turns up the high RPM`s on spin cycle. It has ripped apart several of my shirts during spin cycle. Whirlpool really failed badly on this machine. I see clearly now that Whirlpool is not the company that they used to be back in the 1980`s. I still have the whirlpool dryer that I bought back in the 1980`s and it still works very well.
To end this story, I loaded up this NEW WASHER in the back of my truck and took it to the scrap yard and I asked them to destroy it in front of my eyes. I wished that I had recorded the destruction of this piece of JUNK and posted it on YouTube for the world to see. I got over $450.00 of pleasure watching the crane operator completely destroy this pile of crap.

We contacted the service center and it was taking too long to have a visit from a technician. Then the technician, who also installed the unit came and checked the unit. He called someone from corporate office or from support team to ask what is error code "Ed1" and overheard over the phone that this is a known issue on the brand. The technician said it is possible that unit will be replaced or only the motor. I contacted the brand support thru Messenger and requested to have the unit replaced, because again, the unit is not over 1mo old.
I was advised it is not possible as replacement of unit is only applicable when the issue happened within seven days of delivery. STUPID ISN'T? Policy is something unworthy for a product that is over 30k. And again, unit started to malfunction not over a month after it was first used. I would say we pretty much took care of the unit, we only use it twice a week. Placed it where it was perfect to put. Followed every advice given to us by the technician who installed it but still, it malfunctioned a few weeks after we started to use it. I am ashamed of the brand itself, we should have chosen Panasonic or Samsung instead not a dumb brand like Whirlpool. I certainly do not recommend the brand for a washing machine unit. In July 2018 I purchased a coin operated commercial front load 27 in washer and dryer. It was placed in and used in a six unit apartment building occupied by 8 long term adults. Prior washers and dryers had been operational for years with minor repairs at times. In June of 2019 the interior cement center balance on the top of the washer drum broke with resulting damage to screws securing the center balance and potentially other unknown parts. This was reported to Whirlpool customer Care service and they referred me to one of their a repair services. The repair service in about early August repaired the washer.
In late September 2019 the cement balance broke a second time and this was again reported to Whirlpool service who requested I notify their recommended repair service. On inspecting the washer the repair service stated the entire washer was required to be rebuilt. The labor for installation of would cost me $1,125 with Whirlpool providing the parts under their warranty. The $1,125 labor cost was just under what I paid for a new coin operated front load washer.
I reported this to Whirlpool whose supervising staff, without any inspection of damaged washer as to determine whether the washer was fit for its purpose when sold as a commercial washer, rejected any replacement of the less one year old washer and insisted they would only pay for the parts and I would have to pay for the labor, particularly when the both the cost of the replacement parts and the labor would be substantially in excess of a new machine. Due to time and effort constraints the problem was resolved by simply dumping the defective washer and purchasing a new commercial front load washer from a more responsible company.

The service guy will say that “oh! 2. The bulky/sheets option is useless. Sheets are sopping wet. I have tried this setting multiple times with just a few sheets or blankets or a set from 1 bed.
3. When you wash sheets on other settings, there is often a dry area on your sheets. (This is with 1 set of king sheets.) **** Please note - Within warranty... I called about the issues. Whirlpool was very good about sending out a repair person. They replaced every inside component of my washer with the exception of the tub and replaced the entire control panel. Unfortunately, issues persist.
Dryer-1. Very few items can be dried at once if you expect clothes to be dry at the end of the appropriate cycle.
2. I usually use the towel setting or timer setting for all load types. Otherwise, dryer stops and clothes are still wet. I have tried to use the appropriate settings.
3. I have put clothes away that have felt completely dry only to find that they had an odd smell when selected for wear within a few weeks. I have had to re-wash these items before wear.
4. Multiple dry cycles have to be utilized the majority of time. I do not feel this is a good use of energy or my electricity.
Whirlpool - sorry for the bad review, but I am incredibly disappointed with your products. I thought we had selected quality machines that would help preserve energy. Sadly, as replacing the machines would be costly, we are now stuck with these inferior products.

I’ve had this washer since October 2018. Worst purchase ever. It does not clean the clothes nor does it put enough water in it. I’ve tried the deep water option too and it’s for sure still not enough. I don’t understand how they even thought that this was perfectly fine to sell. If I could’ve taken it back a month after having it, I for sure would. And no one will buy it because they’ve read reviews of how it’s terrible. I wasted $900 on this washer. I have the dryer also which works amazing.
The washer just sucks something terrible. My husband's military uniforms always look dirty and a lot of the clothes aren’t ever wet. I’ve finally seen a picture of how you’re supposed to have clothes in there. Why in the world would you only allow barely a layer of clothes at the very bottom to be cleaned by the agitator? Why would you have this huge drum only to put not even a load in there? This was such a waste Whirlpool and I’m glad I’m not the only person who has the same issue. I will never purchase another Whirlpool washer, it’s upsetting I can’t currently get rid of this crap washer I have now.

In addition to that I find the "HE" rating a joke as it takes 2+ hours to run a load of whites despite it saying on the read out that it will be 1 hour and 4 minutes, it literally tears up my clothes. I have now gone through 3 sets of sheets, 4 towels, 5 baby onesies... How can a washer that doesn't have an agitator cause holes and shredding in a garment? I honestly don't know what to do anymore. It takes two days to do the wash for 2 people when I could get it done in hours with my old machine. And to think I spent close to $900 on this washer makes me sick! I had purchased fully automatic top loaded WHIRLPOOL WM 360 BW PRO-HS 9.5 on 08/05/2019. I had purchased the above machine after going through the various claims made on the website. However, I regret to say that since installation I find that the performance of the machine is not up to my satisfaction. Even after two visits by the engineer, the following issues remain:
(i) The machine makes lot of noise in the initial stage.
(ii) Though the timer shows a particular time during selection of a washing cycle, in reality the machine takes one and half times more than the timing shown. In case one selects warm / hot water, the actual time taken is twice that shown or more. I am sure in winters it will take more time in case warm / hot water is selected.
(iii) The clothes get badly entangled during wash.
In the past I had a LG front loading washing machine which never gave me any problem. I had gone for the best top loading model of Whirlpool hoping for better performance but it has only caused problems. Not worth the expenditure.

Whirlpool washing machine was not a "good buy" at all specially after using it and seeing that over the years I had to incur high costs of maintenance. Over the months and years of buying Whirlpool front load washing machine, I had to replace motor twice, digital display twice, motherboard twice THAT TOO at a very high price every time something broke. This time the angle that supports the drum broke and Whirlpool says drum needs to be replaced. HOWEVER, after waiting a month company says DRUM IS UNAVAILABLE. Which means my machine has become absolutely useless just because Whirlpool does not have the spare. Whirlpool has a ridiculous track record with poor service and poor product quality. Manufacturing in one country and selling it in another WITHOUT SPARES is defective and poor service, totally unreliable. Wouldn't recommend Whirlpool to anyone.

We purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio washer and Dryer May 2017. First, this washer is SO LOUD! Honestly, NEVER had a washer that is this loud on the spin cycle. My second issue is, that when I wash my blacks, they have white "splotches" streaks on them. I use ALL clear and free liquid washer and Downy softener, so I stopped the softener, and still the white streaking. I've since will use the additional rinse on during the wash, but still leaves white streaks. After 3 separate rinse cycles, no streaking. This leaves me thinking that with the lighter colored clothing, there is probably streaking as well, just can see it - my conclusion is that the clothes aren't getting cleaned properly, or rinsed.
Another issue is the dryer. First, takes longer than all my previous dryers, even the set 110 mins for towels on high, still takes longer. My washers are not packed tight with clothes either - it's just my husband and myself - not a lot of washing. Also, I noticed a crack in the inside dryer/drum where it looks like the paint is chipping and cracked. I used some high heat touch up paint, and it did not help. Needless to say, what I thought was an good reputable product, turns out to be, not so good.

We bought a Whirlpool model WFW5620HW front-load washer at Lowe's. The unit shook so violently during part of the spin cycle that the Whirlpool-authorized service company technician said not to use it while parts were ordered. It seems the "balance ring" was not functioning. Parts ordered were shocks and tub assembly. The technician suggested trying to get a whole new unit, as the repair is so intensive he had only done one or two in his career.
Whirlpool customer service said they would not replace the unit, and an escalated request had the same response. I think this is terrible customer service - when there is such intensive failure in the unit, they should provide a brand new machine. The work has not yet been done - we are without use of a washer for an unknown period of time, since the order of a tub assembly is so uncommon that they do not have a time estimate. Needless to say, we will never buy Whirlpool again, and suggest you do the same.

We purchased this washer in 2017, it's the top loading Cabrio washer and it has been nothing but junk since day one. Purchased from RC Wiley in Boise and unfortunately did not buy the extended warranty because we trusted that this American company would make a washer that would last longer than 3 yrs. This washer barely washes clothes, leaves a residue on them since there is no agitator, also constantly gets unbalanced or gives and error of LF which means water supply issue when there isn't one.
My 15 yr old about has a heart attack when he uses the quick setting and his clothes aren't done in an hour and a half. I've even resorted to turning the thing on to just rinse and spin so things get done sooner, still the stupid washer just sits. I would sell it but I don't want to pass on the pain, so it's going to the dump to or to Goodwill cause it's not worth the headache. Too bad you can't trust an American company to make a good product. Sad I really wanted to like this washer.

We purchased this from Sears and bought the extended warranty (thank God). One of the times the technician ordered the parts to repair the machine. The service center sent the wrong parts and we had to wait an additional week for the correct parts to arrive. The 3rd transmission they installed lasted a week before it leaked gear oil all over our floor. When you do get a service call scheduled it will get rescheduled to a later date. This happened twice. They also cancelled the service call once before they fixed the machine. If I could give a zero star for this I would.

We purchase a Whirlpool washer model # WTW5000DWI, SERIAL #C842 43102 ON 10/30/2019 and it has been nothing but a disappointment. We are senior citizens living on a very limit income with several health problems, and cannot go to a washeteria to wash our clothes. We had a washer that lasted over 19 years and when the motor failed I figured it was more practical to purchase a new washer versus repairing this old one. We had a very reputable Whirlpool dealer here and was very helpful and recommended this washer and the price was in our budget! Was that a big mistake, it does not clean the clothes, does not rinse the clothes with using the 2 rinse cycle and still, does not rinse a load of sheets.
I bought a large capacity washer so we could wash 2 sheets at a time. Wrong! You cannot get more than a couple inch of water on the Deepwater cycle, so it's like washing clothes on a riverbank on rocks, it rubs clothes together. On my wife's good clothes it will cause little balls of fabrics on them, clothes does not smell clean, and if it's real dirty clothes, it will not clean or take the stains out. It's water efficient alright, it does not use any water!
It's for sale, and I have talked to a lawyer. Whirlpool customer service was no help at all/All they want was to send a dealer to check it out, the only problem if there is nothing wrong with it that will cost me min. of $125.00. Warranty will cover a manufacturing defect, not a design problem which is what this is. I will just go to small claims courts and get my money back and be done with Whirlpool, hell they don't care! I would buy any washer that is cheaper and has an agitator, without a water efficient features and is top loaded model. It does not pay in this world where large manufacturing companies don't care.

We were a Whirlpool family, and have been using a Whirlpool front loader – Duet Steam Model # WFW9500TW - for the past nine years without any issues until recently when it started to vibrate. Technician sent by Whirlpool blamed it on failing bearing and that it was cheaper to replace than to repair (In hindsight, I wish we had tried repairing). Naturally, we decided to replace with a new front loader from Whirlpool - Model # WFW6620HW. Our previous version had a max spin speed of 1000 RPM and a capacity of 3.5 cu. ft. This new one has a top spin speed of 1160 RPM and a capacity of 4.5 cu. ft.
The main problem with our old one was vibration, and this was being caused by the washer going into high spin while the clothes were not evenly distributed throughout the drum. In one spin, the clothes would spin perfectly without any vibration, but in another spin of the same cycle, the washer would not allocate that same clothes properly throughout the drum, which leads the drum to cause vibration from unbalanced high spin. Vibration is a problem, because like most Americans, we live in a wood frame house, and have a basement underneath with the washer located on the main floor. Vibration from unbalanced high RPM spin gets sent down to other areas of the house, causing damage, drywall cracks, separation in trims, etc. And these are all only the damages one can see with their eyes.
One point about vibration and some myth busting. Provided that all your washer legs are meeting the floor and not on a saggy floor, your washer should not vibrate more than it does during an empty spin. If it does, then it is due to faulty, poor design/engineering. What happens is when the steel drum becomes unbalanced with laundry in high spin, it starts to shake as more of the weight is on one side, which one can notice looking inside the washer window. There are concrete weights fastened to the top and bottom of drum to keep the drum in place and to reduce its shaking tendencies.
However, this weight also causes the washer cabinet to wobble if the drum itself is shaking. This wobble in turn causes the washer legs, which may be firmly grasping the floor, to very slightly come off the floor, which one can feel if touching both the washer feet and floor with their finger at the high spin of an unbalanced spin. And that motion of legs coming off the floor and hitting back at high RPM is what causes vibration to be felt on the floor and to be seen on the cabinet.
Of course, this effect is amplified with washers that decide to go into an unbalanced spin with an even higher max spin. When our old washer perfectly balanced the clothes, it behaved like it was running high spin while the drum was empty. This is how all washers should behave, especially in America where the vast majority of homes are wood frame based. However, that was not what we experienced with this new Whirlpool. If a washer is not capable of balancing out the clothes, extra function or feature should be deployed in containing the drum shake to within the drum, and not allow it to escape.
First, our old front load Duet Steam Whirlpool was Made in Germany. This new one is ‘assembled’ in America. The door window of the new one is plastic and feels cheap and flimsy, but I expect all the darker color door windows of newer front loaders to be plastic. Consider it cost cutting. We did not look for additional anti-vibration technology because our old Duet didn’t have anti-vibration features aside from its two springs and four suspensions. We decided not to use Load & Go because I have personally seen liquid HE detergents gum up over time, so I didn’t want to risk it gumming up inside the washer.
After the installers left, I spend an hour cleaning the outside of the washer to perfection. Sadly, time wasted. Once I was done, I first did a wash without clothes, and then with clothes in Normal, fast spin cycle with drum about 2/3rds full. Just pants and t-shirts. There is a recirculating pump at the top of the drum to distribute the water, and to also distribute soap mixed water. But I am not sure if this is without problems. These pumps can collect soap residue with time, and you will eventually end up rinsing the laundry with soap mixed water even in rinse cycle.
In getting to the first spin in wash cycle, I was flabbergasted to see how, just how rudimentary, I want to reiterate the word rudimentary, the load detection was before entering high spin. Our nine-year-old washer had a more comprehensive one. The new washer would spin the clothes at very, very low spin and simply see if the drum is most evenly spinning. That’s all. Compared it to our old washer which would also shake the drum to see if there was movement from side to side, because clothes can change their position when entering high spin. This rudimentary load detection causes the new washer to create an even worse uneven load distribution around the drum before spin, even though it may seem even at very low RPM. So, why is the new washer’s load detection so basic? I believe it is due to ball bearings.
Front load washer models from other companies employ ball bearings to reduce vibrations from uneven loads. Whirlpool does not employ such feature, at least, they do not advertise them. However, to my surprise, I hear metal balls hitting each other every time the drum direction changes during the wash cycle. I inquired Whirlpool about this and I received contradictory responses.
My theory is that the basic load detection before spin speed is used because Whirlpool assumes any changes to load distribution will be taken care of or reduced by the ball bearings of the washer. But this ultimately allows the washer to go into more uneven spins. The bearings may also be used to increase the tolerance of what is considered an ‘unbalanced load’ in order to get the washer to go into spin cycle faster, decreasing the time involved of the washer to go into spin cycle. Sadly, to my dismay, the new washer ended up causing a worse vibration than our old one with failing bearing.
I called up the retailer the same day of delivery and complained of vibration. He first sent an installer to see if it was installed properly, and upon showing the installer of the vibration issues, the retailer sent me a new washer couple of days later thinking the first one was a lemon, and even though it has less noisy draining noise, it too exhibited the same issues with it going into significantly uneven spin. In the end, we decided to return the Whirlpool washer all together, at a loss of $200 because the retailer did not hold up to their spoken return policy.
We have done many loads in this washer to see if our loading is an issue, loads of varying sizes, loads of varying types, loads of weights, and we maybe only had an evenly distributed load around the drum about once or twice. Once it was a King comforter. But, like our old washer, this too ended up not distributing properly around the drum in the final spin cycle and started vibrating, even though it was vibration-free in the previous high spin cycle. This proves that the problem exists directly within the washer, not the floor, leveling, load, etc.
Some other problems with the washer:
- The washer door, Load & Go dispenser at bottom, and single load dispenser at top are all plastic parts which all vibrate significantly during fast spin cycle. Especially the Load & Go dispenser which keeps hitting the cabinet to make banging noise.- Drain sounds are much, much louder than our previous Duet. It was even louder in the first one we received. Combine this to uneven spins and this washer can perhaps compete with an engine in terms of the sound it generates.
- Single use dispenser at top left will hit the washer door if washer door is opened when the dispenser is also in open position.
- Buttons are sometimes unresponsive, to which I have to power off and try again. But this has only happened a couple of times.
- There is a small ¼ in. opening where the steel drum meets the rubber gasket, opening in which items like coins, etc., may fall through and are irretrievable. Don’t think small socks would be affected.
To potential buyers, I suggest you proceed with caution when it comes to this washer. Understand the retailer’s appliance return policy and make sure it is shown in paper. It can save you a lot of headache. Get the extended warranty of three years because manufacturers only give you one-year warranty for a reason. I would also suggest that you avoid this washer at all costs if you have any floor level below where this washer is to be installed, especially if the level below is a basement. Your house is more important and more valuable than a $1000 washer.
In the end, I am very disappointed in Whirlpool, an American company. Perhaps Whirlpool focuses their attention on top loaders, not front loaders. But Whirlpool had nine years to improve their washers, and it is sad that we may now have to go outside of America for a quality product to be used in American homes. P.S. No solicitation please, Whirlpool. This washer is in the process of being returned. P.S.S. I already posted this review in Whirlpool's website, and it is under 'moderation'.

Bought the washer in Sep 2017, and it’s been repaired for 5 times. When it passes warranty, I paid for repair out of my own pocket. I find it so unfair to pay for the frequent issues. It must be something wrong with the model. So I talked to their customer service and I explain to them about the situation. I was very pissed off and I asked the representative, "Do you think it reasonable for me to keep paying for this? It’s never been fixed for good." And she said “Yes, it’s reasonbale...” I filed a complaint to BBB, they get back to me days later and the executive manager granted me two year extended warranty. I was pretty satisfied about it.
One day after receiving the warranty, the washer was broken again. And a Whirlpool technician came to check and said nothing to be replaced, and he cleaned up the clogged item and left. In the same evening, it’s not functioning again, and I called back for service again. During the time, the washer just sat there. Same guy came and this time he told me to go get a new machine. It’s totally broken, not worth repairing it. I was so shocked. I’m trying to get a new one. But after I’m telling this story to my friends, they said it’s so fishy. You should go after them. And then I tried to talk with Whirlpool about this issue, they ignore me and transfer me from one department to another department and they don’t let me see the technician report.

It has overfilled and underfilled with water a few times, the machine shuts down while washing and I have had to restart the machine. Half the time the clothes come out covered in soap and I have to put them through another rinse cycle. My bedding always has to either go through a second rinse cycle due to being covered in soap or I have to rewash it because it is all packaged together in the fitted sheet and never got washed. During the spin cycle it sounds like it is getting ready launch into outer space and it vibrates excessively. On numerous occasions I have had to untie my clothes as they are tied in knots. There have been times that I had to put the clothes through another spin cycle because the clothes contained too much water.
The final straw was last week (03/27/2019). I washed my sheets and they came out bundled up in the fitted sheet full of soap stains and I had to rewash them. When the sheets were done I put the comforter in the wash and started to clean the house. When I went into the laundry room the washer was not running but the wash light was on so I opened the lid and felt the comforter and found it to be dry. I closed the lid and pushed the start button. After a few seconds the washer shifted to rinse without even washing the comforter. When the washer stopped running and the ready light came on I removed the comforter, unplugged the machine, shut off the water, disconnected the water hoses, placed the machine on a dolly and took it to my scrap pile. Wrong. They require physical possession of the machine to issue a refund, which I assume is a way to ensure that they never have to issue refunds - who would keep a broken appliance around? When our sheets were washed in bulky/sheet cycle and deep water this happened. Maytag sent out repair person to find the water pump went bad, pump was replaced. After repair same bad washing results as stated previously. Maytag then sent out repair person for the second time.
This time the main electrical board was replaced. Still after two repairs wash loads are still coming out dirty, soapy, dry in spots in any of the selected wash cycles large or small. Third call to Maytag and a third scheduled repair date coming up in a few day. Over the phone the Maytag employee only words of wisdom was, "Did you buy the extended warranty." Went to do a load last night and that's when it stopped working. Powered on, cycle selection was fine, lid locked, typical clunk noise, then nothing, no water. Paused the cycle, lock lid light flashed but didn't unlock. Machine powered off on its own and unlocked. I powered it back on after 30 minutes and it wouldn't let me change the cycle, panel selection was frozen. So I powered it off and contacted repair. They think it's the water inlet? Pending repair to see for sure. This is not OK! I had an older machine from the '90s that was still working before I bought this one. So sad to have this type of product from this company.

After much frustration and disappointment, as well as 2 huge repair bills with my front loading washing machine I sent it off to the scrap yard, still looking brand new, and went back to a top loading machine. I purchased a Whirlpool top loading, high efficiency, low water machine. I have had it for almost 2 years now and am extremely happy with it. I would highly recommend it. Fairly quiet and easy to use and takes very little detergent. It does not have an agitator so it is gentle on clothes. I know some users have complained about tangled clothes but, in my opinion, if it is loaded correctly this should not be a problem.

Everything comes out clean and it doesn’t cause items to be tangled around each other. It has a setting for every possible type of load. I especially like the option of having “deep water”. Not having a “glass” lid is a plus.

3/16/2019 washed a load of bed sheets, on the white clothes cycle, put the wash in at 9:21am. Left the house at 12:41pm. Wash still not finished! It was finished by the time I arrived back home, I was gone about 11/2 hrs. I have yet to complete a wash cycle in less than 1hr 15mins. I hate that I have no control over water level, that I have to put detergent in the bottom of the tub, and the damn lid locks! My clothes don't feel clean. Why does "big brother" get to decide how my wash should be done, when they don't pay my water or electric bills?

I refuse to waste money fixing the piece of junk and when I go to purchase a new one it won’t be a Whirlpool.

We bought this Whirlpool washer dryer set last year and extended warranty. 7 weeks ago the washer stopped working. I have spent around 60 hours so far trying to get the washer fixed. Have talked to the repair shop as well customer care up and down the chain. 5 visits so far by technicians and still not fixed. Customer care people promise to call back w/update but never do. We were going to buy LG but bought this to give business to an American company. Now our patriotism is bearing fruit. Customer care blames AIG (service contractor) and Whirlpool say that they can’t manage AIG. At the end of our rope with constant trips to laundromats. Have no idea if it will ever be fixed. So frustrating to see the name of Whirlpool tarnished to this extent. Nobody seems to be in charge and everybody passes the buck. Whirlpool is a shameful example of a company that deserves to go out of business.

We purchased a stackable electric washer/dryer unit and received in October. Had issues from the start. Called Whirlpool in Dec 2018 and they sent out their contracted service company. Told us they were ordering parts. Never heard from anyone. Called service contractor and they said never received parts. Called January. WP told us that because it was a new model, they didn't have the parts. We asked them to replace the unit. WP called us and said they would replace the unit and it would arrive in late January. NO CALL. Called 2/22 and said, no similar units available. Ask them to upgrade me if there were units available. Said they would and the inventory of the upgraded unit was promising. Would get a call from delivery company for a 3/6 delivery and install.
3/2: Called because hadn't heard from anyone and called WP. Today Katrina ID # ** tells me they are making the new upgraded unit with an "anticipated delivery of MID MARCH." I just about flipped my lid. I asked for a supervisor of which she said she was a "SR support specialist." I asked that this be escalated and I get a call regarding status. She advised that she would inquire and call me back. Likely shouldn't hold my breath or try to call back because you are on hold for up to 1-2 hours. Just to clarify, have never had an issue with Whirlpool. Every appliance we have in our home is Whirlpool. I just can't believe this experience. I am going to the media on my next stop.

I bought a Whirlpool washing machine, model WTW4855HW, and was I ever shocked at how noisy it was. The wash cycle had a grinding noise that was just too much. After 2 loads I sent it back and didn't regret having to pay the restocking fee. I just couldn't believe that with all the technology we have today, that they couldn't build a quiet machine. I'm an engineer so I know there are methods through gearing, belts, soundproofing, etc, to produce a quiet machine. Remember the dishwasher of days gone by. You couldn't watch TV with the dishwasher going. Nowadays, you can stand in the kitchen and have a nice conversation with it running. The technology exists. As a matter of a fact, my old Maytag that finally went bad after 10 years was fairly quiet. So, if you don't have your washing machine in the garage or basement room where you can close the door, don't buy this machine! Bruce in Portland

Do not buy this washer. It does not get clothes clean. I use extra rinse (that negates the water savings) and still clothes comes out with stains on them. Some clothes are not even fully wet when removed after washings. I find myself soaking and pre-treating many items. White socks and undergarments are "grey" soon after buying. I always liked Whirlpool washer and dryer products, but this is a very poor product.

It's supposed to be "energy efficient" yet it takes AT LEAST two times as long to get one load done, regardless of size or cycle preference! Now laundry takes all day! Literally! And why is there a lid lockout? Did someone accidentally fall in? If I drop something after I've pushed start, I have to wait until the machine unlocks the lid. Why? This seems counterproductive. It's a top loader!

This Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine just does not do the job. It smells inside and does not get clothes clean, just normal everyday laundry. I usually have to put them through twice. It is supposed to be a water save, but I don't think it uses enough. I use minimal 'he' detergent, yet you can see detergent residue on the clothes after they are washed, I think because there is not enough water running through to rinse clothes very well.

I didn't realize that being so called energy efficient meant that it didn't put enough water in to get my clothes saturated! On large loads or bulky items when I put in my laundry detergent only to find out I had to try to wash them again. Parts of the clothes would still be unwashed & dry after going through a whole cycle! After washing the clothes that did get clean comes out looking like I took them to a stream and washed them on rocks. It has all these fancy buttons for all different types of cycles and loads and they all seem to wash the same. As a mother of 3 kids I want my kids to put on CLEAN clothes. The quality of appliances, really such since the manufacturers are greedy. And after the 5 year Warranty expires, only Lowe's buys back the the appliances and Home Depot. Their Warranty specifies that you have to purchase from them to replacement of an appliances if purchased from them!??? Therefore I would not buy any appliance from them. A refrigerator, washer or dryer, you can take parts from each one and build a whole new appliance, which is very disappointing! TO ME THIS IS BAD BUSINESS FOR AMERICANS, not all people know this by experiencing this yourself and I let people know about my experiencing this myself, manufacturers should make products in The United States of America???

Within two years I did have to replace the gasket on the washer. A wire behind the gasket caught on my load of clothes creating a mess and the whole thing had to be replaced. The washer is a side loader which I think does a better job of cleaning and uses less water, but if you have toddlers you will have to keep door closed and that cause mold and mildew buildup. Other than that I have had it for 12 years and both dryer and washer work well.

It goes off balance, frequently. It is moldy and stinky. I wipe it out, use a cleaner and leave the door open, but it still stinks. I am getting rid of it and buying a Speed Queen top loader. I am extremely disappointed in the front loader Whirlpool.
Reviewed Feb. 15, 2019
We have front loaders. Far, far less damaging to the clothing than a top loader with agitator, would never go back to top loader. That comes with a caveat though. There is a difference you may not realize between the two styles. With a front loader comes a little maintenance. You will need to clean the washer periodically. Most all the stores sell the cleaning tablets and no, not all cleaners are created equal. I will only use Affresh after testing most of them. With a front loader there is always some water in the bottom of the drum, even after the cycle ends and even when it looks empty. So if you wash real dirty or smelly things, you’ll want to run an empty cycle to rinse out that leftover water or run with cleaner.
In between wash days you’ll need to leave the door open so it doesn’t mold or mildew. The door gasket/seals will show mold and mildew and or you’ll get a mildew smell in your clothing. The only issues we’ve had with these units were the learning curve on front loaders in general and with the dryer we had the water valve for the steam function stick open (after 5 years) but it was due to calcium build up from our well water, not a issue with the machine itself.
The dryer lint screen could be better. It is vertical so as the lint builds up during a cycle it drops to the bottom and accumulated at the bottom falling off as you pull it out each time to clean it. The lint catches on a crazy amount of extrusions inside the lint trap which also makes it nearly impossible to get down in and effectively clean all the crap out. One last thing if you're changing from top to front loaders. Buy the peristalsis, they’re expensive but it’s a pain in the butt to get stuff out if you don’t have them. Overall we’ve been very happy with our Whirlpool front loaders and would confidently recommend them to you.
