I purchased a Whirlpool 3-door refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom on 8/17/12. Within 4 days, the ice maker stopped working. It took two days for the repairman to come out and fix it. So all is well with that. Less than 2 weeks later, the refrigerator isn't cooling. Several days later, the repairman came and determined it was the evaporator fan motor and clutch. The parts were back-ordered for 10 days. Parts came in 2 more days before he can come out and install them. He realized they sent the wrong parts. Another week went by, then he came and replaced the fan motor, which is now making an ear-piercing buzzing sound. He came back a week later and said it needed a gasket, which is back-ordered.
In the meantime, he put some stick on insulation around the unit. Not much help. Another week went by, and the gasket showed up. It is still making a high-pitched whining sound. He said it was the compressor. Whatever! I hate the refrigerator. The sound is one that just grates on your nerves and you can hear it in all the rooms surrounding the kitchen! A repairman has to deem it unrepairable before they will even consider replacing it. They consider it fixed. What about my bleeding ears! I just want it gone! I am so disappointed. I thought Whirlpool was a good product with a solid reputation. I have a $2300 noise maker! Is there a class action lawsuit?!

Let me just start by saying I have multiple Whirlpool appliances, and I have always bought Whirlpool appliances in the past. I bought a refrigerator 3 months ago, and it quit working. So, I called Whirlpool to come service it. The service repairman said someone left the freezer door open and it froze up. Two days later, I had to call them back again, because now, the fridge part was not keeping food cold. He came back out and told me it was the compressor. I then in return called Whirlpool that afternoon, and they refused to replace it saying they had to follow their "Warranty Policy" and they would call me back on Wednesday. They did call back on Wednesday and told me they had located the part. I got a call on Tuesday of the following week and was informed they could not locate the part. I called Whirlpool the next day, and they told me they would have to send it to their "Exchange" department for review and I would hear back from them in 3 business days. I asked for them to rush my request, but they told they have no way of doing that. I will never buy a Whirlpool product again!

I purchased a Whirlpool French Door refrigerator (G16FDRXXY07) from h.h.gregg appliances and electronics in Columbia, South Carolina, on August 3, 2012. It was delivered and installed on August 11, 2012. It functioned well for three weeks, and then temperature of refrigerator dropped to 25F. Vegetables and eggs got frozen. I made a service call to Sloan Appliance Service as soon as I was aware of the problem. In the 3rd visit, the thermometer was replaced after troubleshooting. After replacing the thermometer, the temperature of the whole refrigerator got higher than it was supposed to be. Refrigerator got around 53F, and freezer got 34F. All foods in the refrigerator got spoiled.
In the past six weeks, the company sent technicians to my house to check the problem, and they tried to fix this refrigerator for 5 times. The situation got worse and worse. I have not had a functional refrigerator for 6 weeks. A technician came with a compressor on 10/22/2012 to see if replacing it could fix the problem. When he cut the copper pipe, he found that refrigerant was leaked out. There is no refrigerant at all. He refilled refrigerant without changing compressor. Because he thought the leak was slow, it should be caused by the evaporator.
He thought it should work and last long enough when a technician comes back with evaporator replacement. It turned out what the technician thought was wrong. The temperature of both refrigerator and freezer did not drop to normal, 53F/34F. The problem persists. I called Whirlpool customer support line several times. The response I got was that Whirlpool would not replace for having manufactured a faulty appliance during manufacture warranty. They can only keep sending technician onsite to check and repair. For 6 weeks and 5 times onsite visits/repairs, this newly purchased refrigerator still does not function.

Whirlpool refrigerator Model WRT771RWYW01 - Having been pleased with my old Whirlpool, I made the mistake of buying one now made outside the US. First, we had to have the cold cut tray replaced, which was covered in our warranty and not a problem. Then, we complained because you can only put things on the front half of the shelves or they freeze solid. We were told, "This is the way they are made, don't put things in the back.” So, I have to put my eggs in sideways so the back ones don't freeze and can't use the back portion of the refrigerator shelves. I paid a lot and I am angry. Let's go back to the US people where things were made right.

Glad to know we are not alone in our disappointment with our Whirlpool French door refrigerator, but I am wondering what and when Whirlpool is going to do something about this. What a blow to their reputation. Goes to show things are not made as they used to be. We purchased our Whirlpool Gold French door (bottom freezer) in August of 2010. Here we are October 2012 and this is the third time it has stopped working. We have lost food, weekends waiting for repair people and cleaning up messes, and money. Same problem as others are reporting - the electronic board and controls. I just spent my Friday evening on the phone with Whirlpool, first explaining the problem to no result then waiting for a manager to call me back. Who (guess what?) never called.
I finally called them and got the same script as the rest of you. It is outside the manufacturer warranty. Really, that is what you are giving me? Plus they will only look at it if we have a Whirlpool repair person come see it. When can they come? In 4 days! Ha, not likely. I am not giving this company another cent. We spent almost $2,000 on this fridge, all we are getting is 2, 3, 5 years? What a shame. We are fortunate enough to have had some space in our garage "beer" fridge for what I can save of the food. Our 7 years old, $300 Moffat fridge has been working like a charm. We will never again fall for the looks of a Whirlpool, let alone purchase another one of their appliances.

I purchased a side-by-side Whirlpool fridge and the ice maker stopped working 2 weeks after I purchased it. The retailer said that I would have to go through Whirlpool to resolve the matter. This has gone on for almost six months now. I've had two service companies do 7 service calls to fix the problem and today, the 8th service call was supposed to happen and the guy never showed up. The company has lied to me telling me that it will just be one more service call each and every time.
I want my refrigerator exchanged for a new one. They are refusing to do so until each service call is completed. I think they sold me a lemon based on the fact that nobody seems to be able to fix the issue. I can't seem to get anywhere with Whirlpool at this point and don't feel that I should have to keep a product that never worked from the start. Help! Is there some kind of lemon law on appliances?

I bought a Whirlpool refrigerator water filter from the Marcone distributor. This distributor, whose name I received from calling the 800 number in your manual, did not send instructions on installation. I called Whirlpool and they did not have instructions on installation. The product is 4392949. In talking with your customer service department filters, I learned that the young man knew nothing about filters. He told me that the filter that I purchased was the wrong one. It's interesting that he tried to convince me without knowing my refrigerator model number. I asked if he wanted the model number and he said, "yes, please." It was very sad how I had to do a song and dance with an idiot. I had no help from your company. I will return this water filter because I was not provided instructions for installation. Neither can your people produce them. For this reason, I will never purchase Whirlpool again.

Whirlpool Gold Refrigerator Control Panel Failure - This French door refrigerator with freezer on the bottom was purchased new in November 2008. This August, the refrigerator stopped cooling. I contacted a reputable local appliance company who diagnosed the motherboard was not functioning on the appliance. They ordered a new one from Whirlpool and replaced it. Forty-five days later, the replacement motherboard stopped functioning. When I contacted Whirlpool directly to inform them what was happening, they continually stated that the appliance company was not part of Whirlpool's approved appliance technicians, and offered no assistance in guaranteeing the problem will not continue to happen. I am extremely disappointed with Whirlpool's customer service and unwillingness to guarantee their products. A 3 year old refrigerator should not stop working.

It took 5 deliveries to get a fridge that wasn't damaged. First two came from Leon's - the same damage on both. Then they said we had to go through Whirlpool because so much time had lapsed. We had purchased the full set of Whirlpool Gold for our kitchen renovation; therefore, we were unable to unpack the fridge until the cabinets were completed. I phoned Whirlpool Canada, and they said they had to send a service tech. The service tech came, and he confirmed the damage and was told to patch it with a proxy. Sorry but I had just paid $1500 for a new fridge. I didn't want a dent and damage. We received no offer for discount to accept the damaged fridge. They sent another one, still damaged. They used their truck to deliver and the guy had no idea how smashed our brand-new trim.
So Whirlpool sent another fridge, and even though I asked them to check it before sending, they didn't. It was damaged. This is four fridges. I'm tired of fighting with Whirlpool. I called Leon's, and they take care to get me a new fridge undamaged. I told Whirlpool about the damage, and they sent a form. First, they wanted me to claim on my house insurance. Why should I put on a claim? If not, get two quotes and fill out tons of paperwork. I'm just too tired after fighting for over two months to get a fridge that isn't damaged. Not even an offer of compensation to cover all the time taken off work and the stress on me and my family. This is the second set of Whirlpool Gold we have purchased in the last 4 years. I doubt I will ever purchase again, because you are a company that doesn't treat your customers with respect or concern.

Ice maker kept freezing up. I'm continually taking the ice tray out to unfreeze. The frequent removal of the tray eventually broke the tab off on the liner. I've now been told this (liner) is not a replaceable part and since that is the case, the warranty will not cover. I'm upset that the repair technician did not process the claim properly and state that the make had a problem freezing. What kind of company would manufacture a product that would have parts that are unrepairable? You spend close to $2,000 on a refrigerator, wouldn't you think you would have an ice maker that works? I know they hope to sell more appliances this way but you can bet I will not be purchasing another Whirlpool anything! I will also be retracting my recommendations to friends and family to purchase a Whirlpool. The company does not stand behind its products.

I have the same problems that all the consumers are complaining about. I have a Whirlpool refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. I have it for 2 years to date, and it doesn't keep my food cold. I will never blame the business that I bought it from; I will blame Whirlpool. Hearing all what the consumers did to try to fix the problem, it sounds like a waste of time and money. I'm sorry to hear what you went through, but also I want to thank you for your complaints so I don't have to deal with it. Whirlpool sounds like a piece of junk. I’m going back to a GE.

We bought a Whirlpool freezer-bottom 18.5 cu ft. fridge from Lowe's. The compressor broke in less than three months of regular use. I called Whirlpool who sent A&E to check it out. The technician didn't even file a report and lied to me about what was wrong with the fridge. They sent a different company to come look at it and they confirmed that the compressor is broken. I called Whirlpool customer service and was told that the warranty only covers repairs not replacement even though I paid over $1,000 for a defective product. The excuse: It's a man-made product so we can't guarantee it! So what used to be a 3-5 year warranty not too long ago is now what? A one-year warranty is virtually useless. I can see a future not too far off where there is no warranty at all. Where is the protection for the buyer? If I wanted to purchase a second-hand fridge, I would have. I will never buy Whirlpool again.

I bought three Whirlpool appliances (fridge, gas dryer and washing machine) from Abt in June 2012, delivered in July 2012. The fridge has not cooled from the moment we plugged it in and because I am out of state from Abt (IL), I have to deal directly with Whirlpool. According to both the Whirlpool customer service rep and her supervisor, if a product is defective from the start, Whirlpool's policy is to try and repair it until they determine it to be scrap and only then will they replace/refund. I find this policy appalling since I paid for a good working product, from a company Consumer Reports rates very highly, but was shipped a defective one. Now, I have had two service visits, the second because according to Whirlpool the first technician did not perform the correct service. I have been told not to put anything valuable into my freezer for 5-7 days because most likely I have a coolant leak and the fridge is bad.
This is terrible customer service and instead of fixing their error which is the purpose of having customer service, they are quickly building a reputation for a terrible product and terrible service. Good customer service would be replacing the defective fridge as it is clearly their manufacturing issue, taking the item back to their warehouse, repairing it if possible and selling it as reconditioned for a discount. I am noting my suggestion in case any Whirlpool representatives read this website. Another interesting item to note is the gas dryers absorb air from the environment around them so if you do any painting (full room or touch ups), the clothes that come out of the dryer may have a burnt/gas smell for up to 7 days. I am still waiting to hear back from the Whirlpool technician as to my burnt smell problem/resolution, but was told this from a separate service representative so I thought I would pass it on.

In January 2011, we bought several appliances and a refrigerator was one of them. The model number is G15VAXVQ01 which is a side by side, French Door Ref with water and ice on outside. We have had problems with the very cheap plastic drawers that are at the bottom of the refrigerator to hold vegetables and meat. We have to be extremely careful so they will not break when opening the drawers. As of late, the fruit and vegetables have been freezing. I went to change the temperature on the outside gauge and dropped the control to 33 degrees and it stuck there. I tried to unplug the refrigerator to reboot the system, to no avail. The temperature is stuck at 33 degrees which will freeze most of our food in a few hours. The freezer side temperature gauge does work.
We also have problems with the ice/water machine. I pushed the water button a week ago and from then on, I couldn't get the ice to come on. I did unplug the refrigerator to reboot and then I was able to switch over to the ice, but I could not get back to the water side. Also, there is no crusher on this machine so the ice comes out in chunks. If we had to do over again, we would not buy a Whirlpool as it appears that they are not interested anymore in quality products and consider cheap junk something to be desired. Not by us! We will get this albatross fixed and see about getting rid of it. It is a buyer beware market so I suggest others beware of Whirlpool products.

I am in construction and have had to deal with failed motherboards on new Whirlpool fridges that we put in some rental properties. Knowing that, when I went to buy a fridge for my own house, I went to a very reputable appliance company and talked openly about getting a fridge that wasn't going to be a problem. My sales agent and I go back always and he was very open about the problems with the more "gadgeted" Whirlpools so we picked a low bells and whistles French door fridge to avoid that. It stopped cooling at about the same age as all the rental units did and had a control panel fail. The sales guy and I laughed about how even knowing about the issues I didn't avoid it. Their company came out and fixed it for just short of 300 bucks.
Two months later, it stopped cooling again. The service tech came out and this time hit the side of the fridge with his hand and opened a relay getting it to work, at least for another week. The tech told his boss that I must not have shut the freezer causing it to go into defrost mode. The third time it failed, we were out of town and lost all our perishables. We had the same tech come out and replace the board he got to work the last time with a whack to the side of the unit. That board should have been under a parts warranty for 90 days but I may have missed that with the slap repair working for the additional 2 weeks.
I'm trying to put this behind me but Whirlpool sent me an "Extended Warranty Plan" opportunity. I can now buy a plan on an almost 3-year old fridge. I am wondering if they are trying to give me the hook up on a bad product or just hoping to prey off my fears and cash in. The company I bought the appliance from has been first rate but their hands are tied by Whirlpool who has virtually no support for their vendors. Before buying a Whirlpool, consider a Sub-Zero. After you figure in the repairs, they aren't too far apart in price.

My Whirlpool refrigerator model #ED5FHEXV001, serial #HR0248 - I have spoken to a couple of reps on the phone. I am very dissatisfied because it was like one rep I spoke with on the telephone advised me to buy an extended warranty and at that time, the company would consider alternative ways to deal with this complaint and perhaps replace the refrigerator. I did not want to pay an additional $100 for a warranty, unless the company would guarantee me a solution, preferably my money back. I did not really believe the warranty would help me after the warranty was expired. I would still have the same problem and I feel that in the event after the extra warranty expired, the company would tell me I should have kept the coils clean, which is my complaint. There is no way to keep the coils clean. I guess blowing out the residue, then all that residue material would end up all in my house.
Also, very important, there have been 3-4 technicians to my house the first year. I was told various things to do, such as adjust the refrigerator to a lower setting and freezer to a little higher setting. One tech actually replaced a part? The second tech said he would clean the coils. The last tech told me the problem was my coils had to stay clean. My question is, how the heck is that possible with the coils on the bottom of the fridge and susceptible to a lot of dust and dirt, unless I move my fridge everyday? Most people do not expect to have to clean under the fridge each day and the coils would still be dirty anyway. It is very dumb that the coils are not on the back of the fridge. With the fridge coils on the back, I have never experienced this problem. Please advise what my next step would be. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I have had to replace the shelves while still under warranty quite a few times. The sides of these glass shelves are made of poor quality plastic and crack constantly. The drawers are the same way. The refrigerator is no longer under the warranty and Whirlpool wants $109 per shelf. I told them I would pay for replacement shelves only if they could send shelves that were made with better quality materials. Otherwise, I might be spending $1000 per year replacing shelves. The Whirlpool representative told me there is nothing that they can do. I see many people with this problem posting complaints on the internet. Do not buy a Whirlpool refrigerator. I do not know if my mail would be read or not, but I am writing it just to my satisfaction. I am a doctor (dentist) living in Haridwar. I had bought a Whirlpool fridge around 2-3 years back. I am not sure about the date. I have the bill. I will have to check the exact date. So around 3 months back, the fridge stopped cooling and I lodged a complaint in your customer care center. The engineer turned up, and he said that the compressor was not working and the company will change it. We only have to pay for the gas to be refilled. I said ok.
Everything went well for nearly 3 months, then again one fine day, the cooling stopped. I called the company's customer care, and they gave me a complaint number and customer satisfaction number. But nobody turned up for 2 days. We have a Whirlpool Gold fridge that was manufactured in 2009. MOD: GS2KVAXS01. SER: HRY0570897 and it has not been cooling properly for the last few weeks. Some days it is fine, the next day not and we have had to throw our a lot of rotting food. We got the fridge checked out and were told the Electronic Control Box for the fridge was not working. My question is, why would a Whirlpool Gold fridge that costs $1800 or so have such a large issue with 3 years? It's practically a brand new fridge and I'm outraged that a large part of the fridge is not working. I understand parts break and there is warranty but it's pretty bad that after the warranty expires the control box would become defective. I have been a loyal Whirlpool customer and solely buy the brand and this break upsets me very much. Especially since replacing the part will cost me $400 plus labor, we are talking about a part costing 30% of the total fridge cost! That is ridiculous. I am hoping there is something you can do to rectify this, as a fridge manufactured by what I thought was a great company should not cause such an issue and I would like to continue to buy Whirlpool products but not if this is the case.
We have called Whirlpool customer service many times to be ignored, berated, told "I cannot speak to a supervisor" and "nothing will be done." Never in my entire life have I ever known a company so horrible to exist. I have had bad service before but this takes the cake. Plus, no company that I have ever dealt with would ignore you and not provide any discount or remedy. I can't believe this is a big brand with the way they carry on. You would assume they would be some one person owned company who doesn’t have a penny to spare. I don’t respect this company at all and expect a resolution because they are truly insulting in all the channels.

I purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator from Gerhard’s Appliance, Glenside, PA on 12/15/2011.There have been problems with the unit since it was delivered on 12/19/2011. The doors were not the same height. There were stains (which looked like rust) on both doors. A shelf on the door and one in the fridge were missing. One of the deliverymen adjusted the door height then, and the door has been creaking on opening/closing since. That door has been replaced, but the problem continues. The freezer (which has an icemaker/water dispenser built in) started to produce ice on the inside of the unit door and on the wall surfaces. Attempts made to rectify the problem were unsuccessful. A new freezer door was ordered. After the door replacement, the frost problem got worse. I can fax you a copy of all service contacts so far (at least 7). Please help me replace this "lemon".

The first 7 technicians(!) did not have a clue of what the problem was. After many calls, they sent a supervisor who "discovered the problem" and finally, after 10 months of this battle, they changed the fridge for a new one. But guess what?! I received the new fridge 2 weeks ago and the new one has exactly the same problem. I am very disappointed and I do not know what to do at this point. After reading all the complaints with Whirlpool, I would never buy another one again. Then, the lady said to unplug it and plug it back in. We had since cleaned it out. I unplugged it and plugged after a minute and it came back on.
The Ace service guy called to confirm his schedule. After hearing that it is running again, he said they are computer controlled and unplugging it and plugging it back in reboots it, as you might reboot locked up PC. He also said that since it is now running, Whirlpool won't stand behind a service call. He said wait until it does it again. Now that's just jim-dandy. Avoid Whirlpool at all cost. I have had the GSS series, which was horrible. It was declared unfixable by service after 2 weeks of ownership. It was replaced with a similar WP model WS series and was told it was basically identical to the GSS series except for some 'cosmetic differences' (They do 'look' identical and yes, it’s just as horrible as the GSS.). The first one was defective from day 1. It was replaced and assured the next one would be thoroughly checked out prior to delivery. Obviously, nobody did this (was still in box and never opened).
The fridge arrived and had the same exact defects as the previous units. Service literally said these were junk and they had nothing but issues with them that they simply cannot fix, and issues Whirlpool is obviously aware of but will not admit to, nor back up their products. Service literally told me to avoid WP at all cost or I will have nothing but non-stop issues and non-stop service calls and the fridge will still not be 'fixed'.
I purchased the extended 5 year warranty that clearly states that the fridge will be fixed or replaced if deemed 'non-repairable'. Mine was! Yet, neither Whirlpool nor the retailer will do anything. I was literally told 'Take it to the dump and go buy a new fridge' by both Whirlpool and the retailer. My purchase was less than a year ago. The 3rd fridge has only been here 3 months. They took my $1,500. They took my money for the extended warranty. It has been declared non-repairable, yet Whirlpool’s and the retailer’s response is "Too bad, we are keeping your money, not honoring the warranty. We don’t care if it’s 'non-repairable. Take it to the dump and buy a new one."
This is new! The money it cost, the money for extended warranty, the money for lost food, the money for lost wages due to having to be here for repeated service calls, the huge amount of time spent using hair dryers and everything else under the sun (this fridge must be 'baby sat' and monitored pretty much 24/7 due to more issues than I can list). The fact this fridge has taken over my life, with freezer and fridge unusable (totally unusable, it has taken over my life, but I still can’t use it and spend a fortune getting take-out food) is just shocking, but more shocking is the fact neither WP or the retailer (the blue one that starts with an L, ends with an S and competes with HD the 'orange store') will stand behind the product or the warranty and instead is telling me to flush multi thousands of dollars down the drain and take my new, with extended warranty, to the dump and buy a new one. Calls to both companies only led to more wasted time and frustration.
I don’t even see how this can be legal. They happily took my money. They fully explained how I needed the extended warranty in case something like this happens and assured me the extended warranty would protect me in case something goes wrong for 5 full years. They will replace it with a new one if un-repairable. Yet in less than a year, I've gotten 3 defective ones with the last one only 3 months old with the first service call made on the day after delivery, but I’m supposed to throw all this money down the drain, take my new fully warranted fridge to the dump and buy a new one?!
Shocking and not something I can afford to do. If I could afford it, I would get this thing out of my house in a heartbeat and buy something else, but I’m not made of money so this is not an option. Not sure what I can do other than to warn others to avoid Whirlpool and avoid the retailer (L---s). I’m just in shock and to say I’m upset would not even come close to describing my utter disappointment and frustration with both companies and this whole ordeal (never ending nightmare is more appropriate).

We bought a new Whirlpool counter depth side by side stainless steel refrigerator in January 2012. We have had 7 service calls because things were freezing on the top shelf. They installed a new part and it still froze. They told us to do dumb stuff at Whirlpool like turn the temp up, don't use the top shelf, etc. The money they want for these appliances and you should put a band aid on it to make it function properly? Duh? The final fix was to duct tape the vents to allow less air flow. This appliance should have been recalled.
I have since read reviews and it is an ongoing problem. Before buying, do your homework and make sure the other brands are not manufactured by Whirlpool. The Whirlpool hotline for problems is not that service friendly, they have an attitude. I need to replace two more appliances and they will not be Whirlpool. The repair service was great but they are independent companies, not Whirlpool.
How do you fix a lemon? Consumers need to be aware of this. Whirlpool would rather spend money on repairs that did not work instead of replacing the appliance. If you want 7 or more repair visits and no results, buy Whirlpool.

I took everything out of the freezer and removed the panel over the coils. There was major ice buildup on the coils. I completely defrosted it and dried it out. I restarted it and it seemed to be working okay. But a few days ago, when I got something from the top shelf of the freezer, it was not even frozen. So, here I go again. When my wife and I were planning our retirement, we made a to-do list before we officially stopped working. We are loyal Whirlpool users and over the next 3 years we purchased 4 major Whirlpool appliances in preparation of having 8-12 years of problem-free time as we go from a two-income working family to two people on fixed incomes. I retired in December of 2011 and unfortunately this did not pan out on 2 of the 4 appliances. The washing machine, in late February 2012, blew a transmission 23 months after purchase and 11 months after the warranty expired. Discussions with Whirlpool by phone were unsuccessful in getting the repair covered.
Ultimately, this repair cost us $265.00. In late April, 9 months after the warranty expired, the refrigerator iced up and had to be manually defrosted, despite being equipped with ADS. My family and I did the defrosting because it was a weekend and tech support was not available. On Monday, the refrigerator was functioning, so I was told to run it and see what happens and call the tech if it happens again. I had done research online and found many folks were having trouble with this refrigerator model and the main problem was the "control board”, a board that is used in many Whirlpool refrigerators. I ordered one after the initial problem and waited for it to ice up again. On Sunday, May 20, it repeated the same symptoms displayed and I put the board in myself and it solved the problem. This computer board cost me $95.81.
I contacted Whirlpool about the two premature, post-warranty expiration issues in hopes of getting some reimbursement for the repairs. The Whirlpool rep told me that because there had not been a recall on either appliance, they could not reimburse me. They instead offered me a 6-month extension on the dishwasher I bought last July. I have been on several complaint websites and have seen the refrigerator control board repeatedly mentioned - all within the approximate 2-year timeline as my control board failed. My refrigerator was a GB9FHDXWQ01 model, but the control board is used in many of their refrigerators. If this has happened to you, please contact me at ** and, hopefully, together we can get enough data to get a recall and get proper treatment from Whirlpool. Please include your refrigerator’s model number so I can verify the board is the one in question. Thanks.

We've had water overflow on our wood floor. When this happened the third time, I called Whirlpool to send a repair person.
The person I talked to said it could be over $400 to repair and that it would be more economical to get an extended warranty for about $314, which I did. I did not receive the contract via email (it may have gotten lost in spam). The repair man came and said yes, this was a common problem due to a design flaw and that it needed a $6 part to make the water drain smaller - so that too much air didn't get in.
It was May 1st before the repair could return to install it. This was done and we thought - expensive but it's taken care of. Today, May 5th, the same problem happened and I have to throw away food again. It's the weekend and there is not a repair person available for two weeks - I got an order number and may request that the repair come sooner. To add insult to injury, I found out that the extended warranty is good only up to $450 and not good for any repair that might be needed in a year. Writing this in assumption that you understand the pain middle class men goes through to but something worth Rs. 20k and spends another Rs. 10k for repairs. We had high expectations from your product but that was not to be.
Following were the problems we face in last 4 years: 1. Refrigerator not cooling (5-7 times); 2. Top door broken (1 time); 3. Main door broken (1 time); 4. Water leak problems (5-7 times). I hope someone will read this and forward it to concerned department.

We bought the Whirlpool Gold series side-by-side about 2 years ago with an ice maker in the door and with this design, the ice bucket is on the inside of the door, which we thought was a very clever design, taking up less freezer space. Well, to remove the ice bucket, we had to use a blow dryer because even though you press the button which is supposed to disengage the bucket from the door, it has always been frozen onto the base.
Then we started having issues of water leaking from the ice maker. It turns out, that the lever that controls the chute was broken. We called a certified Whirlpool technician to come out to fix the ice maker dispenser lever. Well as it turns out, it cannot be fixed. It is a "sealed in the door" unit and to fix it, we have to replace the door, a repair estimate for door and labor is approximately $800. That is absurd.
I contacted Whirlpool and was told that my refrigerator is out of warranty and that there is not an option to repair the dispenser. There is nothing we can do. I said that according to the repairman, we are not the first to report this problem. When I contacted Whirlpool I was told there is no recall for this item. We purchased the Whirlpool based on the reputation that it has had in the past and the good product we have in a Maytag (which is associated with Whirlpool) dishwasher. Well, never again are we going to purchase a Whirlpool or any of its subsidiaries products. I have read so many unhappy customers here that I cannot believe that Whirlpool continues to make such inferior products or designs.

I am a Whirlpool Privilege Member - IFB privilege number **. This is Mrs ** here and I possess two Whirlpool Fridges, one single door and one double door (Elite Model). In fact, all my family members have Whirlpool refrigerators because I recommended them and because I have had a very satisfying experience with your service until now.
I recently (first week of March) logged a complaint as my fridge was not working (it was working on and off). The Mechanic from the service center visited us and said that the compressor was at fault. I had some doubt about this as the Fridge was working on and off and I requested my friend who had a workshop to come and have a look. He checked and said that the compressor was working perfectly but looked like there was some problem in the supply of current which could be a loose contact or something.
So I logged another complaint and when the mechanic came (this time a different one), I was out of the country and my husband was there in the house. He checked the fridge and said the compressor was working and apologized for the earlier mechanic’s wrong diagnosis. He also said that it was difficult that since the wires were inside the beading or the Puff, or whatever, the fridge could not be repaired.
I am really astonished and pained by this comment by the mechanic as we spent a lot of money and bought a fridge for its brand worth name. I shudder to think if this complaint had happened two years after I brought it, should I simply throw the fridge because it can't be repaired? Is there anything at all where the company can say it can’t be repaired? Are fridges used and thrown in India? I am all the more worried because I have been recommending Whirlpool Fridges left and right to everyone and I tell them that there could be a situation when Whirlpool would ask you to simply throw your fridge away. I still have belief in Whirlpool and I firmly believe my recommendations would not go wrong, and it is only the fault of the mechanic who could have made this remark unwittingly.

After 1 year, my fridge's plastic interior wall/liner started cracking everywhere. One crack is right across the entire back wall; other smaller cracks are on the sides and back. Three fridge shelves literally fell apart: pieces fell off! The glue came undone on the sides of the shelf that hold the glass in. Pieces of the shelf itself were falling out of the fridge. The microwave door has plastic trim around the glass on the door, and it is cracking also.
It seems that anything that was made Whirlpool and is plastic is cracking and/or disintegrating. Sears caulked the cracks in the fridge and is replacing the shelves, but nothing is being done about the microwave. Whirlpool said, "Too bad. Go to Sears. We may have made the product, but Sears is responsible." And Sears is saying "Too bad; we've done all we can."

I called Whirlpool’s 800 customer service line to let them know I was having a problem with this loud humming and rattling noise coming from my refrigerator because of a manufacturing defect (according to the service tech that came to my house to fix it). Apparently, the metal grid is being held by a flat mental hook which vibrates. What a loud noise. We cannot eat in our kitchen: the noise it terrible. The repairman's solution was to put a piece of rubber between the two metal pieces. It worked until he left. I told him it would start again and it did! I even let the customer service rep hear the noise and she agreed. I am in the early stages of my problem, but from what I have read I am not very hopeful. I would like to have the names and phone numbers of the people at Whirlpool who refused to help. Maybe if we would all band together and call them, they would get tired of hearing from unhappy customers and fix the problems. I am game. Anyone else?

I purchased a new Whirlpool stainless steel French door refrigerator MSRP for $2,500 in good faith. If something were to go wrong with the appliance, Whirlpool would fix the unit as applicable under their accompanying written Whirlpool Corporation Major Appliance Warranty for the duration of one (1) year from date of purchase. However, this has not turned out to be the case at all. As per their written Whirlpool Corporation Major Appliance Warranty for one (1) year from the date of purchase, when this major appliance is operated and maintained according to instructions attached to or furnished with the product, Whirlpool Corporation will pay for factory specified parts and repair labor to correct defects in materials or workmanship that existed when this major appliance was purchased. Service must be provided by a Whirlpool designated service company.
My refrigerator was purchased on 10/27 and delivered on 10/28. Service repair performed by a Whirlpool designated service company was on 11/30, 12/30, 1/9, 1/18, 2/9, and 2/23. A future appointment was scheduled for 3/22. Whirlpool’s designated service company notes from 2/9 specifically state that the refrigerator will not run and parts were ordered. Whirlpool’s designated service company returned on 2/23 for parts installation and noticed that other components of the appliance were not functioning properly and proceeded to call the "tech line" for support. After hours of troubleshooting and multiple failures to function properly, the service company deemed the refrigerator as un-repairable and clearly stated in their notes that the unit was not cooling, there is a manufacturing defect, restriction in the unit's seal system, and the unit needs to be replaced. I was instructed that the "tech line" would complete the ticket, send the information over to Whirlpool Corporation, and I would need to follow up with Whirlpool’s customer service to set up the delivery of a replacement and haul away of the non-working defective refrigerator.
Furthermore, the company (manager Wanda at the TN office), had already promised to replace this unit if the service repair performed on 12/30 did not fix the unit, which the company has never honored and has since decided to recuse themselves of this promise made on behalf of their employee. In addition, this Whirlpool manger (Wanda at the TN office) even gave me her direct phone number and extension to follow up with her. She has never answered any of my 10 phone calls over a period of 3 weeks and never attempted to return a single voicemail that I left for her. Since the promise of a replacement refrigerator, I contacted Whirlpool by phone on the following dates: 12/30, 1/3 and 1/16; 1/17, 1/19, and 1/30; 2/20, 2/24, and 2/28; 3/2, 3/9, and 3/13; and 3/15, 3/16, and 3/19. I as well have emailed them information they have requested on 2/20, 2/24, and 2/28.
Below is verbatim of the last few Whirlpool customer service representatives that I have had correspondences with.
2/28 (Tabitha): I have sent in your information for the PEX (replacement unit) since I see here that your unit is un-repairable. Someone will continue to contact you within 24 to 48 hours to go over the PEX process with you.
3/2 (Brittany): I see we received your file on March 1st; however, it was denied because the request was blank. Can I place you on hold on a moment? (After a long pause) I apologize for leaving you on hold so long. Your records were listed under two different accounts on our end with one being linked by your phone number and another being linked by your address; therefore, all of your records have probably not been viewable. Upon further review of your information, our Whirlpool designated service company that performed service on 2/23 will have to call into the tech line to complete their notes before we can proceed.
No, you cannot speak to a manager. If you wish to have a manager contact you, one will do so within 24-48 hours. You cannot speak to a manager because at this time there is nothing they can do to assist you; unfortunately, this process is moving along at its fastest place and there is nothing more we can do for you at the moment. There is nothing that we can accept from you to speed this process along, even though your copy of the service company’s receipts include the statements of work from our designated service company. If you wish to escalate this matter, you can write to Whirlpool Customer Relations Department at 553 Denson Road.
3/9 (Kia, supervisor): Although our designated service company may deem your unit un-repairable, Whirlpool has to deem your unit un-repairable for a replacement to be issued. At this time, Whirlpool does not deem your unit un-repairable. You will need to contact our designated service company and have them forward over your information. I am the highest level of supervision for the company and if you wish to escalate this, you can write to Whirlpool Customer Relations Department. Their mailing address was already provided to you previously. At this point, our conversation is over. We will not be replacing the product as we do not determine it to be un-repairable. Thank you for calling Whirlpool. The information we have discussed will be documented. I am the highest level of management for the company, so your request to be transferred to management is denied. I am aware of everything you have said and I have documented this information. At this time, I am done discussing this with you and will now hang up the line.
This kind of customer service is not only discourteous, but it is despicable in the upmost matter. This displays complete corruption in regards to the written warranties provided by Whirlpool Corporation that come with your Whirlpool product at the time of purchase. Currently as it stands on 3/20, my $2,500 valued Whirlpool refrigerator is just under (5) months of the purchase date and has been deemed as having a significant manufacturing defect, as well as needing replacement by Whirlpool’s designated service company that they hold a contract with. Yet, Whirlpool refuses to replace the unit and refuses to speak with me based on the ground that only their contractactually designated service company deems the refrigerator as un-repairable, but they do not. My refrigerator has not worked in weeks!
From reading the Whirlpool appliance product reviews online, I discovered that I am by far not the only consumer that has suffered from victimization on behalf of Whirlpool Corporation. I saw numerous consumers who had purchased the exact same product (matching model number) as me, had issues, and Whirlpool refused to assist them. Therefore, I think that we as consumers need to take a stance to stop these unethical practices of Whirlpool Corporation and demand that they honor their written warranty for their products. This company’s abuse and neglect of their consumers is absurd.

The average life of a refrigerator is 11 years. We purchased a Whirlpool convertible refrigerator (Model EL7JWKLMS02, Serial # EWR1339731) on 6/12/04 from the Lowe's here in Visalia, CA. The first delivered was DOA and Lowe's delivered another. That should have been a warning sign. We have had several problems with the product, as early as 2006. All repairs went through Sierra Appliance & Franks Appliances.
We are now in the market of another refrigerator to replace this one. We have had to have freon added now for the third time. Sierra Appliance was unable to find any leak, but each time, the freon was depleted. In addition to the health hazard of having freon leaking into the house, we have had the distinct displeasure of having to deal with food waste, etc. Because of the ongoing problems with this product, we are now facing the reality of purchasing another refrigerator to replace this Whirlpool product.
Due to this, I feel it is difficult to consider another Whirlpool product and will question any product to ensure that it is not Whirlpool-related. If there is anything that Whirlpool or Lowe's can do at this point, it would be appreciated. Thank you for reviewing this note of dissatisfaction. It appears that we will be shopping for a new refrigerator this weekend unless we hear from Whirlpool. In any event, I would like this recorded as a complaint from a former customer.

I was told that it included the labor and service charge. I asked if I would need to pay for both units if I did it the same day. She said that the company provided a 30-dollar discount. I decided to only service the fridge at this time. I spent the entire day today, waiting for the service person to come. And when he showed up, I told him that the fridge needed a computer board. He then started telling me that it would cost $200 for labor. I explain that I was told that it should be $129.99 for service call and labor. And he said, "No lady, it's $70 for the service call and labor is $200.
I then called Whirlpool where I spoke to multiple people within a forty-minute call to explain that this is absolutely wrong and that I am not going to pay for the service call. I then spoke to a Niki (3544) who is supposed to be a manager, who basically said my problem now is with the service company, not with Whirlpool and that there is nothing they can do even if they misquoted me. I agreed to pay $129.99 for service and labor, not an $70 service plus labor.
I am so upset because I have been a client of Whirlpool for ten years. I have called for service on multiple items in my home, and I have never had a problem. This is so outrageous. I didn't know how smoothly an ice dispenser was supposed to work until I got this one.
To remind you of my experience, it died on Thanksgiving. I purchased side-by-side model ED2KHAXVQ just over 18 months ago. It quit cooling on Thanksgiving Day. I got a repairman out the following Monday. He diagnosed it as a “sealed system” problem and would be $500-800 to repair. He was surprised that a serious defect like that wasn't in their warranty. I went to the Lowe's where I purchased it. He said he couldn't help me and told me to call Whirlpool. Customer Service said all they could do was send a repairman. I informed her I had just spent $70 on a service call and didn't need another one. I told her what the serviceman had told me regarding the warranty, and she said they took that out of their warranties in 2009. Well, of course they did! My mother has a similar model and has nothing but trouble with the ice maker since day one.

Hard to believe Whirlpool has gone so far down hill. The products are no longer quality and their customer service couldn’t care less. I am now on my 3rd Whirlpool. I had concerns due to many reviews stating numerous issues. However, after speaking to whirlpool numerous times they assured me--heck, they promised me that none of the issues I mentioned were accurate. They claimed the reviews were written by the competition or disgruntled employees. I pointed out there were far too many reviews all mentioning the same issues for the above to be true. They again stated none of the issues mentioned were known to whirlpool and again assured me my fridge would have none of the issues mentioned. I now have my 3rd one with each one having the exact same issues and the very same issues I found on tons of reviews that Whirlpool claimed were fakes.
I have never been so frustrated in my entire life. This fridge is ruining my life. Weird crazy graining non-stop noises. Awful smell like the compressor is overheating. Unit runs non-stop. Negative 30 degrees in freezer and it will not cut off even if I raise it to the warmest setting. Sometimes it defrosts 5 times in one day and other times it goes 5 days without defrosting a single time. When it does defrost, 50% of the time the hole in the defrost drain pan is frozen and the water cannot drain down in to the pan and instead ends up on the bottom of the freezer under the basket and all over my floor. This beast is impossible to move due to the awful 3-wheel design, yet it has to be moved daily or more then that to wipe up all the water. The doors are loose and get looser with each door opening. The ice dispenser operates on its own! Yep, the pad that has to be pushed to work, does it on its own, dropping ice all over the floor, with nobody touching the dispenser pad. The ice maker itself is 100% useless unless you consider having to spend 4-6 hours everyday--yes, everyday, using a blow dryer to melt the frozen dispenser tray as being useful.
I don’t! The ice does not drop in to the bin. It just sits on the dispenser tray the ice comes out from. Fills with water and causing the entire thing to freeze. The motor will kick in to dispense the ice and since it’s frozen solid, it just runs and runs the motor but will not do anything because everything is frozen solid. Turn ice maker off and blow dry to melt and as soon as bin is put back in and even though it is off and the ice is now melted water, it dispenses the water in to the bin! This happens 2-4 times everyday: frozen solid, blow dry, dumps water in to bin; blow dry and clean out bin; drops ice into hot bin even though ice maker is off, causing you to repeat again and again. Water line freezes causing more need to blow dry and again. Once unfrozen it immediately wants to drop the melted ice in to the bin even though maker is off. Without even dumping any ice, the water valve kicks in and fills the tray that has frozen ice in it with more water. Obviously, this ends up getting the water in the bin and all over the dispenser, freezing it solid. I could go on and on, but frankly am sick of typing. Each of my 3 fridges all have done the exact same things, with tons of others posting online that theirs too have these issues.
I bought this based on Whirlpool assuring me these issues so many mentioned were non existent, yet they quite obviously are and I’m on my 3rd one with each having the same exact issues. Whirlpool could not care less. My retailer said if the 3rd fridge didn’t work then “too bad.” They claim I can’t be satisfied. Nope, wrong! I just want a properly working fridge that I paid good money for. I never asked for a different model, so quite obviously it has nothing to do with me not liking the fridge or no fridge will satisfy me! Just give me one that works. But nope, Whirlpool could care less and my retailer could care less, even after seeing the issues themselves! I am so dismayed it is not even funny. This fridge is killing me. It’s a 24/7 job for god’s sake. I mean that literally. Between all the many issues and the non-stop blow drying, this fridge has me working on it 24/7!
I can’t work, can’t sleep, can’t eat--my entire life is spent messing with issue after issue. Who ever heard of needing to blow dry 3 or 4 different parts of a fridge 3 or 4 times everyday? Like I said, I could go on and on, but I’m worn out. 4:30 pm now and just like everyday, I have been blow drying and doing the same ** I have to do everyday since 5 am and when I’m done typing this, I have to go blow dry again since I hear the motor humming and the tray filled with water without dispensing the frozen ice from the frozen dispenser and it’s now frozen solid again. I've never experienced anything like this, and again neither Whirlpool nor my retailer will do anything to resolve this. I paid good money for this defective piece of junk. I have a warranty. Service has been out and they are clueless. They just keep saying, “Awful design. Seen many others with exact same issues. We can’t get them fixed.” Can’t fix it? Can’t replace it? So what the heck do I do? Although it has a lot of issues, I figured I could eliminate some by just cutting ice maker off. Nope, doesn’t work and get this: Whirlpool said I can’t cut my ice maker off for more then 8 hours or my water line will freeze! Um, didn’t they tell me 20 times there are no issues with the water line freezing? Yes, they sure did! And they said I had to actually turn off the water valve behind the fridge if I turn the ice maker off or it will freeze/rupture/flood my house!
Stay away from Whirlpool! They used to make good quality products with great customer service, but no more. They have lousy defective products that they will not stand behind and non-stop lies about issues they claim don’t exist when they most certainly do exist and they are aware of it and are lying saying they are not aware. Then the retailer won’t do anything! Beyond frustrated!

We called Whirlpool which was no help. Then we called a repair man who told us, “There was a leak in the seal system and it was low on freon. Would have to replace a compressor, evaporator and it would be better and cheaper to just buy a new refrigerator." It has just turned 4 years old. I called Whirlpool again and they said they didn't know why it went bad. I said is it a recall or just a bad refrigerator. The girl was no help at all; I kept asking to talk to a tech and finally asked for their corporate office address which she said was 553 Benson Rd., Benson Harbor, Mich. 49022. I now have to buy a new refrigerator and it will not be a Whirlpool.

We bought a Whirlpool model GC5SHAXVY01 side by side. The ice maker had problems within the first month, and they continued until the following year. Finally, the ice maker was deemed irreparable. Whirlpool worked with us, and we got a replacement for $600.00. The replacement had been in our home 3 months, when we realized it was leaking water. The guest room behind the fridge, had water soaked carpet, and molds growing on the baseboard. The hardwood under the fridge had been water soaked, and could not be dried by professional machines running 24 hours a day for 4 days. Oh the noise! The guest room carpet was pulled out with the baseboard immediately, and today, they are ripping out the hardwood affected in the kitchen. We called the CEO's office at Whirlpool to tell them. The answer was "talk to our legal department".
We are very angry. This has been very disruptive and upsetting. The floor is black under the hardwood. We are now awaiting the drying machines to come in for 3 days, and waiting to learn about what appears to be black mold. Be careful, and good luck if you buy from Whirlpool.

I do not have the ice maker hooked up . It is plumbed for an ice maker but the servicemen who delivered it advised me they didn't do that . I didn't have the money to hire a plumber. The fridge was a PG& Energy Partners project in which those of certain age and income levels were presented new energy savers in exchange for old ones.

I am completely dissatisfied with the competence and accountability that I have encountered while dealing with Whirlpool Canada. I ordered a Whirlpool Refrigerator in September of 2011. I opted to switch the door swing myself since it is a relatively simple task and of course they charge you extra if they do it for you. Once I had the door installed, the last step was to screw on the handle. The door was missing the threading which allowed the handle to be installed. I contacted Goehman's to set up a service call. They looked at the fridge only to tell me that they needed to order an entire door. A month and a half later I had not been contacted by anyone regarding the whereabouts of the replacement door.
Long story short, over four months later and after hours of phone calls recounting the details of the events numerous times to numerous employees, all Whirlpool had to say over and over again was "I understand, but unfortunately we do not provide any compensation.” They said that the warranty only covered repairs and not product replacement, which would be fine if it ever broke but they delivered a fridge that was not built correctly in the first place. They took no responsibility for the lack of quality control.
After speaking with the supervisor Josh, and insisting that we be compensated for the inconveniences and frustration, he finally agreed to extend the warranty by 3 months. I told him that they should offer a year extension since if they stood behind their product that it wouldn't even cost them a cent. He politely told me that he understood and what email address did I want the extended warranty information to go to and that he would offer only the 3 month warranty. When I received the email, I found out that I had yet another phone call to make in order to engage the extra 3 month warranty.
I am extremely frustrated with the level of service and I feel as though they school their employees to be therapists that offer no solutions. They were all very willing to listen and offer a sympathetic ear, tell you that they understand but not to take action or offer a solution. They seemed to think that it was acceptable that I pay them full price for a fridge but not deliver the full appliance for a projected 6-8 months. In my book and to most consumers, this is not acceptable. When I pay full price for a product, I feel that a full product should be delivered to me in working order. Whirlpool got their money and the "special order" door seems to be at the low end of their priority list. How else can they justify a 6-8 month wait for part replacement?
Somebody please sell Josh a car with no stereo system, make him pay for the option and see if he if he thinks waiting 6-8 months for it is acceptable. Oh yeah, and waste 6-10 hours of his personal time trying find out where the heck his stereo system is then tell him how much you understand. I guess I can stroke Whirlpool off as a brand of appliance for any future purchases.

I finally had to go, because I had an appointment. When I got home, I called back, and got a man by the name of John, and at least he recommended he could schedule a repairman.
The problem I told him is, the inside wall of my refrigerator has 2 cracks on the side, and a crack on the back wall. This is about the Refrigerator ED5VHEXVQ01, side by side. As with many others consumers, I have had multiple cracks in the sliders, drawers and glass shelves and also stress fractures and cracking in the inside liner. I had cracks filled with tub calk the first 12 months of ownership by a Whirlpool factory authorized service repairman under warranty. Whirlpool sent me drawers, sliders and glass shelves after calling it in and talking with 5 different customer service reps. Less than 2 years later .all the above cracking, breakage, fracturing of the drawers and liner have come back with a vengeance. Whirlpool asks did I purchase an extended warranty.
It wouldn't matter with the cracking and stress fractures of the liner because Whirlpool considers all of it cosmetic. I say **, they fixed everything the first time. They should stand behind the flimsy plastic used in the manufacturing of this appliance. Whirlpool says the defects do not impede the functionality of the fridge. I say **, the appliance runs more than usual with the cracks and will shorten the life of the product.
I am but one person with many voices. USA might stand up and enforce the manufacturing quality as it once was. I do not want to ever hear from another Whirlpool Rep. I understand that because if they did, they would stand behind this shoddy workmanship found in the Whirlpool Refrigerator I purchased in 2009. I know I will not get the expected life out of this Whirlpool appliance.

My 2 year Jennaire (made by Whirlpool) broke down on 12/14/11. Repairman came out on 12/19. He said that the compressor was not working and ordered another and he came out again on 12/22. He said that it could not be fixed (internal leak or something). An aside to this story was that a tank of compressed oil blew and damaged my hallway and kitchen walls and floors and 2 rugs. That was being handled by the repairman's insurance company.
We called Whirlpool and they said that they we could pick out a new refrigerator priced at no more than $2399 even though we paid $2799 for the Jennaire and would have to pay the difference for a model costing more. We went with a Maytag (Whirlpool product) that listed for $2899 but was available at 2 local stores for $2050 and $2100 but I had to give Whirlpool anther $500 because they use the MRP.
They finally delivered it on 1/5/12 but would not leave it because no one disconnected the water line to the appliance and they would not touch it. It took me 20 seconds to do it and if they would have told me so it would have been done on the 5th. Rescheduled delivery for 1/8/12 and the unit was delivered damaged (large dent in front) and they would not temporarily leave it until a replacement came.
I called Whirlpool again and asked them to just call a local Home Depot or anyone in my area (all had the unit in stock) to deliver one but they told me that it must come from the warehouse in Michigan (I live in PA) and that it would be yet another 5 to 10 business days to receive it. So, I am paying $700 more for a unit that I could have bought and had delivered before Christmas not to mention the inconvenience of no unit for a month. Not to mention the damage to my home, $200+ dollars in thrown away food, time to shop for new unit, time for 2 repairman appointments and time for the 2 deliveries thus far and countless phone calls to Whirlpool to get the new unit.
Today is 1/10/12, so I guess I'll have by month end if there are no other problems, you would think that they would try to expedite this just because its been so long or give us a substantial credit for all the trouble. Never again Whirlpool.

Purchased Whirlpool refrigerator at Lowe’s. Refrigerator would never get cold enough, so I exchanged with a Whirlpool Gold side-by-side refrigerator. After installation coffee was spilled behind refrigerator. I was unable to pull refrigerator out from wall to clean coffee spill from behind. When checking with Lowe’s on the 35th day, I was informed that Lowe’s 30 days warranty had expired and I would have to work directly with Whirlpool.
I discovered it was very hard to communicate with Whirlpool; there was a problem that they only had on file the first refrigerator I purchased not the one I kept. The Whirlpool service rep did not seem very cooperative but with insistence they told me they would change my information to the correct model and serial number and a repair order was sent to a local service shop.
The problem with not being able to roll the refrigerator out from the wall is that Whirlpool had changed their wheels to a tri-wheel support and there was not enough height on the single front wheel to lift the refrigerator to clear the screw down leveling stops on each corner. The service rep had no solution for the problem and had to call the Whirlpool service. He indicated he never was able to get assistance from that department. I told him I would talk to them as the consumer but they refused to discuss the matter with me, so I gave the phone back to the service tech. Whirlpool told the service tech to order replacement wheels of which I knew this would not resolve the problem.
After two weeks, the replacement wheels arrived, the service tech installed them and as I expected they did not resolve the problem. I then requested the service tech to remove the rubber from the stops on the corner to allow for the additional required clearance and this solution worked. This is a very poor design for Whirlpool, but I accepted the results. Two weeks later I receive a phone call from the service business and they tell me that Whirlpool did not have the refrigerator model/serial number they worked on. Whirlpool was not willing to resolve the problem I had with them initially and the service business would have to bill me directly and was not covered under the warranty.
At this point I lost it and informed the service business I resolved this model/serial number with Whirlpool before. Whirlpool gave them the authorization to work on the refrigerator and they would need to collect the fees from Whirlpool. I have purchased my last Whirlpool appliance mostly because Whirlpool makes it very difficult or refuses to talk to the consumer and it appears the quality is no longer there. Will Whirlpool become the next Kodak? With this kind of service, people will just quit buying from them.

Regarding a Whirlpool Refrigerator (model ET8CHMXKQ04) purchased in '05. I don't remember exactly when the problem began but the freezer starts its defrost cycle, water drips down through the refrigerator compartment (soaking all paper/cardboard covered products), collects under the crisper trays and eventually spills out onto the floor. It's a river of water that requires a towel to collect.
I believe what's missing is some sort of collection funnel and tube that catches this dripping water and delivers it to the evaporation tray behind the base cover plate under the refrigerator. Obviously, Whirlpool has no quality control nor does it do any field tests to ensure their products are designed and operate properly.

The second one was also loud and we debated if we should send it back also but we just put up with it! Second mistake was not buying the extended warranty. Since we have always had good luck with WP we didn't purchase the extended warranty. Neither WP or Lowe’s would do anything to help.
The repairman who looked at it and diagnosed what was wrong said the compressor was undersized for the size of refrigerator and that it had worn itself out trying to keep up. He said he would not put in the same size compressor or it would do the same thing. Hence the loud noise of this model. These cars will be guaranteed to run ok. However, once the car is heated up under normal working conditions, the cars will be guaranteed to leak oil all over whatever surface they are parked upon. Our Whirlpool refrigerator, model MODGI5FSAXVYO, began leaking water from the freezer onto the floor about 3 months ago. We purchased the unit in January 2011. We had to keep a towel on the floor to absorb the moisture. Our troubles began after the freezer door was left ajar and the interior became quite frosty. We had turned off the freezer several times to defrost but nothing helped until this morning when I read the comments of Marea of McClellanville, SC and Ruth of Vavenby, BC.
I then decided to begin exploring taking apart everything until I reached the freezer unit in the back of the freezer. I discovered a lot of ice with the ice blocking the drain hole which is supposed to drain condensation from the freezer fins to a drain pan in back of the freezer. Apparently, leaving the freezer door ajar caused the drain hole and surrounding area to ice up. Condensation from the fins would keep dripping until it overflowed onto the bottom of the freezer until it filled up with ice. The water then had nowhere to go but out of the freezer onto the floor. The simple solution to this problem is to turn off the fridge, empty out the freezer and allow the frozen drain hole to thaw out. You can easily remove the back panel of the refrigerator to see if water is then draining into the drain pain. Good Luck! Ed

Lowes sent repairmen many times and even replaced the one we purchased with a newer model. Whirlpool refused to replace. The problem persisted and we had to continue calling repairmen. The last straw was when the repairman asked to borrow my hair dryer to help him melt the ice that continuously builds up in the door chute. I stopped going through Lowes and went directly to whirlpool for repairs.
Since then I have been told that I should remove the ice box and clean out weekly, be nicer in order to get better help and that my husband should do the talking so that Whirlpool will be more helpful. I am so disappointed. It's been a couple of years since I last called for repairs even though we had the extended warranty. I have to clean the chute daily in order to get crushed ice from the door. Whirlpool knows that their engineers developed an ice dispenser with problems but will not admit it. Their customer service is the worst ever. I will never buy a whirlpool refrigerator again.

This is the most horrific episode in my life. Our Maytag refrigerator caught on fire started the kitchens vinyl floor on fire completely totaled the refrigerator. It ruined all of the carpet, all wall coverings and paint were turned gray or black , smoke damaged the family clothing in the laundry room, water damage, curtains, metal leveler mini blinds, everything ruined, air duct system contaminated with smoke which moved all of the particles of the melting insides of the fridge throughout the entire house. This was at 2 am when I was awaken by horrifying screams from my youngest daughter, that I could only assume was being attacked.
I grabbed my firearm and ran through the house as fast as I could and found myself in a dark haze and still heard screaming coming from the haze which I soon realized was smoke, but I was still afraid that this was part of the attack on my daughter life until I found her trapped in the upstairs stairwell afraid to come down through the smoke. I found that the Maytag refrigerator was on fire and ran out the back door and grabbed the water hose and began fighting the fire. I had knocked the fire down some and found my way to where we keep a fire extinguisher and emptied that on it. And then removed the power and we escaped the home grasping for air.

Purchased side-by-side model fridge, and within a month, the ice-maker froze up. Within a year, the relay switch failed, and caused the compressor to fail. What a lemon. Also, the clear bins in the door of the fridge side, have all cracked. Whirlpool says it is a cosmetic issue, but I think it is hazard and a material processing failure during their manufacturing process. They obviously would not cover any cosmetic issues under the warranty.
I was one of the lucky ones, at this point, as the repairs were under warranty (expensive compressor, only by one week), had to buy an extended warranty to cover me in the future. I was only out the cost of extended warranty, and a fridge full of food. Lucky me. Customer service is worthless for any issues. I don't think I'll buy another Whirlpool product again. Buyers beware.

This will be the last Whirlpool appliance I will buy. We purchased this Whirlpool refrigerator Model # ED5GVEXVD literally a few days over 2 years ago. It is a side-by-side refrigerator with shelves that are supposed to slide out, however, we have never used it in that capacity. The problem is that the plastic frames on every shelf, even the ones that do not slide out over the bins, have cracked in no less than 2 places on each shelf.
We contacted Whirlpool over a month ago. The good news is that they responded quickly. The bad news is that they stated, "It is unfortunate that you had problems with the shelves, but we are unable to do anything for you because it is out of warranty. If you would like to purchase replacement shelves, we could order them through their consumer parts department. "
This is such a crock. If it was one shelf, I could justify the possibility of it getting smacked or something overweight was placed on it, but every shelf? As I said, not a single shelf is crack free, including the ones that sit directly over the bins, which should have additional support from the bin construction.
By the time I replace every shelf that is cracked, it will be equal to what I paid for this refrigerator 2 years ago, and it will net me maybe 2 more years of service. If I have to invest that kind of expense into it, the refrigerator will go to the recyclers and I will buy from another manufacturer, which will definitely not be a Whirlpool or Whirlpool subsidiary.
The cracks were noticed early last month. The cracks are already getting larger. I will no longer allow my children to get anything out of the refrigerator since I'm afraid that the shelf will crack, the glass in the shelf frame will break and we will have an injured child, which instead of reaching this website, I will be contacting a lawyer. I need to do something with this refrigerator, but with the economy, I can't afford to just keep replacing a $1,000 refrigerator every 2 years.
This refrigerator does not get extreme use since it is the 2nd refrigerator in the house. The primary fridge has been in our house since 2005 and I wouldn't trade it for anything. This Whirlpool refrigerator, however, is poorly made. The materials that the refrigerator shelves are made from were just a poor engineering decision because it is not holding up to mild to moderate use without cracking.
We purchased this Whirlpool appliance thinking we were getting a quality product from previous reviews we had read, however, this is obviously no longer the case with this company and seeing the complaints that I now see online. Someone would have to give me really compelling evidence to make me decide to ever purchase another Whirlpool appliance again.

I purchased a Whirlpool Gold from ABC Warehouse in Flint, MI, for $2099.00 before tax and it was delivered on 10/22/2010. Head-liner of inside of refrigerator has a crack about 3-3 1/4 inches long and the refrigerator is running more often. A repair tech came today, 10/14/2011, and did his job fine. He called Whirlpool and they stated to fix it with epoxy? The repair tech is ordering this.
I called Whirlpool at 9:00 am right after the tech left at 1-800-253-1301 and spoke to Sherry. I explained everything to her in a very nice manner and she stated that according to the manual, they give us it is for repair only? I said, ok, could I please speak to her Supervisor and she said yes but it will be the same answer. I spoke to her supervisor, Lisa at 9:15 am, she came on talking about the problem and let me talk, I asked her on several occasions are you still there, and she said yes, her words were that Whirlpool only repairs nothing else for the year as per my paperwork (record). I said we don't even get this till after we purchase the item, I mentioned I had a Cabrio Washer and it was junk and had more service calls than any other machine I owned.
I have a stove as well from Whirlpool it’s been good so far, I told her with service like this, and them knowing their liners are made of cost cutting saving materials as I have read enough complaints about this on the internet, that Whirlpool is eventually going under and so are the other small shops that do part work for them and their jobs will be outsourced to Japan, China, India and so on, I asked if there was another person higher up than her I could speak to and she said "no, they’re not available at this time" I snickered and said that's management for you. They have a customer service rep (call center complaints which is Sherry), then supervisor like you (Lisa) then some other management that don't want to talk to you. Way to go Whirlpool.
I told her to document that I will never buy another Whirlpool appliance and I will definitely tell others and so on, and if we get enough folks to ban them they will leave USA or close and then Sherry and Lisa will be unemployed just like the rest of us in the good ole USA. Poor appliances for folks that can barely afford to make it and if you’re lucky and working like me and you buy something; shouldn't a refrigerator last more than this, and you stand behind your products?
I also told her I know some are abused but this was not an abused product from me. It is a Whirlpool ‘cut your cost savings product’, and forgets the customer. Please look at the old appliances, I also mentioned I have an old Amana in my garage that is 17 years old runs great and never had a problem. And I gave her up for this piece of junk Whirlpool. I then told her I will write letters, emails and everything I can think of to ban this make and product. Model number of this refrigerator is GI7FVCXWBO, freezer on the bottom, fridge on top, side by side doors, solid black with ice maker.
When I purchased this I bought it to last a long time as I had to finance it, and take from our monthly income. I had never had a nice fridge, but heck this is not nice. It’s a joke and the sad part is, I owe over $900.00 still and just got laid off. Thanks to the good ole USA and Michigan, but I will pay it off no matter what cause I pay my bills, and stand behind my name as a good person and citizen unlike Whirlpool.
Boycott their products as they don't care about us or the American workforce. Oh, and this damage was not caused by abuse to the fridge - it was poor quality of materials in their products.
Thank you for letting us complain about products! Also, it’s not like I can go out and buy another refrigerator as it took me over 18 years to get this one. Thanks WHIRPOOL for letting me down on another bad product but it will never happen again. I've definitely learned and will teach others. It's just not fair that these big manufacturers can get away doing this to the poor people, maybe it's like they say; corporate greed?

We called the repairman in who told us that Whirlpool knew there was a problem with their ice makers, but because they did not cause fires, they were not recalled. We paid $480 later for items that should last at least 10 years, not 3-5 years.
We will never purchase another Whirlpool appliance and neither will any our family. A company with this level of ethical behavior that knows they have a faulty piece of equipment and just chooses to do nothing does not warrant my business.

I bought a new Whirlpool French Door bottom-freezer refrigerator at Lowe's in September 2010. I started seeing ice form in the bottom of the freezer compartment in July 2011. I cleaned it out, thought maybe the door had not sealed good. In a few weeks, it had formed again. I checked for leaks at ice maker. I noticed a condensate was also freezing on the back wall.
I called Whirlpool in October 2011 to see what could be done, since the problem began before warranty had expired. (The warranty expired in September.) I was told by 3 different Whirlpool reps that they would not cover any of the costs of repair, but they suspected it was the auto defrost system and they would be glad to line up a repair person.
Most of my appliances over the last twenty years have been Whirlpool, and I have had good service out of them other than a microwave that had a recall and that Whirlpool repaired. I was shocked that Whirlpool would not back up their product any better than this, especially since it is one of their higher-end models. I'm not sure why Whirlpool has a customer service (or disservice) line to call.
They were very uninterested in helping me. I can call my own repair person. I was insulted by the manner that the helpline personnel spoke to me. My experience has convinced me to try a different brand other than Whirlpool for all my future purchases.

I purchased a Gold Star Whirlpool Refrigerator from Sears which was installed on July 1, 2010. The freezer was icing up along seams, so sealant was used. However, now I noticed after 14 months that the interior refrigerator's lining is fracturing throughout the sides and bottom of the refrigerator. Not at seams but all over fractures, spanning 10" to 3" to 2" on the bottom and side of the interior lining of the refrigerator.
Sears' answer is more sealant, and Whirlpool does not take any responsibility in designing a defective liner since it is pass the one year time frame. This causes your refrigerator to be on more often, because of the cracks. Unfortunately, the consumer loses out. Both representatives were nasty and when I asked for a supervisor from Whirlpool, an incident report was written, however I will not ever be able to get a copy of it. It will be considered an internal document. It is a great setup between Whirlpool and Sears having defective appliances made to last a year, and Sears to win with warranty agreements for the life of your appliance of $250, for one year coverage. When you buy the warranty and have a lemon, Sears doesn't replace it, My suggestion to consumers is to buy a tube of sealant.
