I found Pacific Sands Building Plans and Engineering on Thumbtack and have 0 luck. No complete work, paid 80% of fees with no communication, Un-approved plans check drawings, not even good quality work, lacking completeness for the county review. Will have to report to the Board of Professional Engineers. This company is a middleman, suggest going directly to an engineer doing the work. There's no communication during the process because they are not engineers, they hire consultants, so you should too.

Their prices are totally ridiculous and definitely not priced for regular middle class. Even for small projects they charge way too much! Don’t waste your time! Rip offs!

Thumbtack rips you off and gets away with it and no one will do anything to help the companies that just want to work and do a good job and not be rip-off by them with their outrageous charges for customers. Never respond but you still get charged for doing nothing. We all need to get with a lawyer and go after them because what they are doing is wrong.

I signed up and was charged instantly for fake leads — people who never responded, answered their phones, or showed any signs of being real customers. The worst part? Thumbtack takes your money BEFORE you even see the lead, even though they claim you’ll only be charged when you respond. Total lie. When I tried to delete my account and protect my personal data, they charged me AGAIN — suspiciously right after I submitted the deletion request. That’s not just shady, that’s predatory. I’ve contacted support and demanded a refund, but this experience makes it clear: Thumbtack is more interested in draining small business wallets than actually providing value. If you're a service professional, stay far away. You're better off marketing yourself elsewhere.

Terrible customer service. As a former PRO, I highly do not recommend. They will charge you for a direct lead that is in another state and will refuse to refund the money back to your card. They denied my refund and then came back and offered a credit. I no longer want to use this service, so the credit is useless. I have not been able to contact an actual person. Seems like I am chatting with a robot. Seems so unethical because what if a person accidentally inquired without paying attention to the location?? I have used this app for years to book weddings as an officiant. I still do because I am not sure what else to use. In a word I “hate” it. You automatically get charged for the lead if it matches your specifications. In the past they would refund the charge if the customer didn’t respond. Now you are on your own. They have a list of reasons you can get ask for a refund but good luck getting one. I had the maximum distance to travel as 50 miles. They charged me for a lead around 100 miles away. I was told it was “close enough” to my distance and they denied the refund. They have their own mysterious formula for figuring the lead price and it has been rising. I usually pay around $27 and I repeatedly pay this for jobs that I don’t get. I’m only charging about $150 for a wedding so to pay that amount for nothing is difficult. My advice is look for another service first.

This company sends a single lead to as many "PRO'S" in your area, and charges every PRO for the Lead. While they are making money hand over foot, the Pro's are entering a bidding war with the other Pro's who are receiving the same lead information. While the end consumer has no idea that the PRO's are all being charged by their inquiry.

As a Thumbtack Pro member, I've been increasingly disappointed with the platform ever since Instant Book was eliminated. The recent changes have offered little benefit or incentive for my business. Customers seem to lack accountability, and I've noticed that many leads come from users on other platforms who simply click on my business name—resulting in charges for a lead that isn’t even genuine.

It feels like only businesses are penalized: if I request a refund for an invalid lead or an unresponsive customer, my credit request is denied. Even Angi shows more respect for its users by crediting them when similar issues arise. Adjusting lead pricing has only increased the volume of low-quality leads, without providing any quality score, ranking, or special treatment for businesses that consistently deliver great service.

After speaking with a representative, I deactivated my account. I was met with more obstacles rather than a sincere effort to resolve these issues. This platform fails to consider the experiences of both consumers and business owners seeking fair treatment and accountability. I might return if Thumbtack makes significant improvements and demonstrates that they value the success of all parties involved. Until then, I cannot recommend this platform.

It's a "legalized" scam, skimmer "service". A modern day concept of slavery of the trades. I was with them for a few years back in the beginning when it all was more or less reasonable. Honesty & ethics is not in their vocabulary. Soon they turned to the greedy dark side and I eventually quit this nonsense. Just read their terms (22 pages!!!) of use. Gives you the creeps! I quit in 2018 when they changed again their terms, increased rates and wanted that one agrees to that they can automatically withdraw from your accounts!

All is so full of legal loopholes, twists and schemes you might as well just sign them over your bank & credit card accounts! I think Al Capone was more fair. Just this excerpt here is NoKo style: TRACKING COMMUNICATIONS "...In order to ensure appropriate charging of Fees and compliance with these Terms, Thumbtack may track the occurrence of communications between Consumers and Service Professionals that occur off of the Platform via email, phone call, SMS text message, third-party websites, or any other means, whether initiated by a Consumer or Service Professional..." Operating under contract, I had a dispute placed against me from an extremely problematic customer. Despite me showing the contract that was signed and paid on. I’m extremely transparent with my work so I showed physical evidence the job was done and we abided by our signed contract. None the less with all this I was asked to submit. Thumbtack ended my account after taking payments for leads I had disputed that was bogus. Never giving the benefit of doubt that all customers aren’t cordial and taking in that we operated within our legal contract… This site is a scam.

I am a disabled senior and my out of state family arranged various repair/ handy man services, all with unfortunate outcomes, before it became apparent that Thumbtack was the common link. They searched by need and locale, and never thought it necessary to vet Thumbtack itself. Looks like those offering services can end up as unhappy as those who engage such services.

I'm sure there are competent professionals listed with Thumbtack, wish I could have run into at least one of them! Sure, let the buyer beware, but what is Thumbtack offering? Do they do no background check at all? Everyone shows up just fine, at first. Four different referrals over the course of a year -- ranging from incompetent to potentially dangerous, no, actually dangerous - I cannot safely use my wheelchair on decking improperly installed. $$$ spent in good faith, oh well, guess Thumbtack is doing alright, though. I am sad. My family really thought they were helping! Trust, schmust, huh? The worst part is, I bet Thumbtack will say there's lots worse out there! Some defense, huh?

I’ve used Thumbtack for years. I’ve been a top pro platinum business since 2019. It used to be great. We would get good solid leads for a reasonable price. Then something changed. They dramatically increased their prices. I went back to our original leads in 2019 and they were an average of $7-$10, which is an appropriate amount. It wouldn’t sting too much if it didn’t pan out with that lead. Flash forward to 2025, my small business can no longer justify the cost. I’ve been hired on thumbtack over 120 times. I maintain a exceptional 5 star rating. I have three years of “top pro”. Leads now cost $40-$60 EACH and most of them don’t respond, barely speak English or never intend to hire you in the first place (bots)? I’ve even had multiple people reach out trying to sell us software or marketing through the app with no intention to hire. The quality of leads is at an all time low.

Currently spending $300+ a month for 1-2 quality leads is not worth it. I feel like my last 4 years building my thumbtack profile has been wasted. If you’re a business owner, look into other ways to spend your marketing budget. Thumbtack used to be great. Now it’s a joke. And based off all the recent reviews I’m not the only one who feels this way. Unless you like to bleed money, Stay away from this app.

My Experience with Thumbtack: A Warning to Others. I signed up for a service with a company called Thumbtack, which claims to connect professionals with leads for contract work. The understanding was that I would only be charged a fee if I accepted a lead and moved forward with a job. However, my experience with this company was nothing short of deceptive and financially damaging.

During the sign-up process, Thumbtack requested extensive personal information, including my Social Security number, address, and bank details, even conducting a background check. I provided this information under the assumption that they were a reputable company, as they had been in business for some time and were featured on major media outlets like Fox News and CNN. Unfortunately, I did not check their Better Business Bureau (BBB) reviews beforehand—something I deeply regret, as I later discovered a pattern of similar complaints against them.

Unexpected and Unauthorized Charges. As part of the sign-up process, I was required to enter my debit card information, which Thumbtack claimed was necessary to receive payments for completed jobs. They assured me that I would only be charged if I accepted a lead. Despite these assurances, the morning after I signed up, I woke up to find that over $300 had been withdrawn from my bank account—completely draining my balance and leaving me overdrawn by $60. This money was meant for essential expenses like groceries, gas, and my storage bill.

Shocked and frustrated, I immediately contacted Thumbtack’s customer service. I demanded a refund and explained that I had not accepted any leads and had not received any services, and did not want the account open any longer. The representative assured me that I could receive a refund, so I requested that my account be deactivated immediately (And yet 7 times I have asked and they still have not deactivated my account because I asked for proof via a hard copy letter and I haven't received anything from them). However, he then informed me that the refund process would take more than 30 days to even begin, as it had to go before some sort of refund board for final approval. This was completely unacceptable, as my money had already been withdrawn without my authorization, leaving me without the funds I needed for essential expenses—all for a service I never used. To a supervisor and escalate this issue.

A Supervisor Who Dismisses and Belittles. The next day, I received an email from a "Kyle," who identified himself as a supervisor at Thumbtack. However, the email raised immediate concerns—it contained no last name for kyle, no direct contact information, and no company phone number. Worse, the tone of the message was condescending and dismissive. Kyle essentially blamed me for the charges, claiming that had I read the company's policies, I would have known that Thumbtack charges for "advertising fees."

He even and I quote said, "I know this is hard for you to understand so I'll explain it really easy for you!" I was, shocked, angry, upset, bewildered. You name it every emotion I could feel came at this point. This man was belittling me telling me basically that I had no brains in my head, I didn't know what I was doing, couldn't read certain guidelines, etc. What he doesn't know is that I have a bachelor's degree in psychology but even so nobody should be treated the way I was treated as a customer. This man why do is that head of Thumbtack's customer service. He's a supervisor for the customer service department and he has the worst customer service I've ever seen add all the companies that deal with in my life.

This was shocking, as at no point during the sign-up process was I made aware of any advertising fees. My understanding was that I would only be charged upon accepting a lead for a job. However, according to Kyle, Thumbtack automatically charges users for merely being shown to potential clients—whether or not those leads result in work.

Despite not receiving a single valid lead, not starting any contracts, and not utilizing Thumbtack's services in any meaningful way, they refused to refund my money. When I mentioned filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Kyle showed complete indifference. In fact, he stated that he no longer wished to communicate with me and that all further correspondence would be handled by their so-called "refund department"—a department with no listed phone number or direct contact information and he made sure to let me know that I had already been denied for refund but that I could still talk to the refund team if I wanted to even though they've already denied my claim.

A Sham Refund Process and Continued Deception. When I attempted to call Thumbtack’s customer service line again, the first automated message I heard was: "If you are calling to dispute a refund, please email our refund task force." This confirmed my suspicion—Thumbtack has a systematic process in place to take customers' money while making it nearly impossible to dispute the charges. Especially since I never even talked to a real person on that line at their customer service line it was an automated message that said if you dispute your refund to got contact the refund department at is so-and-so email address which is another red flag.

Kyle later followed up with another condescending response, offering me a credit on my Thumbtack account instead of returning my money. This was infuriating, as I had no intention of using their service ever again. Offering a credit instead of an actual refund was nothing more than an insult, especially considering I had lost access to funds needed for my essential living expenses. When I made it clear that I would be pursuing legal action if my money was not refunded within 48 hours, Kyle showed no concern. Instead, he passed my case off to their legal department, where the issue has remained unresolved. To this day, I have not received a single penny back.

Thumbtack’s Fraudulent Business Practices. After filing a complaint with the BBB, I began reading other consumer reviews. To my horror, I found countless similar stories—contractors being charged exorbitant fees for leads that were either non-existent or fake. Some users even reported that the "leads" Thumbtack provided were not real people at all.

Final Warning: Do Not Use Thumbtack. Based on my experience, I strongly warn against doing business with Thumbtack. In my 43 years of life, I have never encountered a company that operates so deceptively. Their practices are misleading, predatory, and outright fraudulent. If you value your hard-earned money, do not sign up for Thumbtack. Their claims of connecting professionals with real clients are misleading at best and outright scams at worst. They will take your money under false pretenses, refuse to issue refunds, and leave you with no legitimate way to resolve disputes.

I will continue to pursue all legal avenues to recover my stolen funds, and I encourage others who have been affected by Thumbtack’s fraudulent practices to report them to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and your state’s Attorney General’s office. Let my experience be a cautionary tale—buyer beware!

Since joining in October 2023, I've had the pleasure of serving over 792 satisfied clients and maintaining an impressive average rating of 4.8 stars. From the start, I've prioritized delivering top-notch service in the handyman industry. Initially, I invested between $3,000 to $4,000 monthly in high-quality leads, which yielded positive results. However, since August 2024, I've noticed a significant decline in lead quality, alongside an increase in costs. More than 80% of the leads I've received have turned out to be false. Through thorough research, I've been able to confirm that many of these leads come from clients with outdated phone numbers and nonexistent email addresses. It appears that Thumbtack is utilizing damaged client information.

Additionally, the platform now requires clients to click on 3 to 4 vendors for each job, which drives up costs and diminishes potential profits for service providers. This situation ultimately impacts clients as well, forcing professionals to raise their prices while compromising the quality of background checks on those entering your home. As a professional in the field, I strongly encourage you to conduct thorough research before using this platform or hiring anyone through it. Thank you.

They connect you to unqualified workers that do bad work and damage your home. You're not able to talk to an actual person to voice your concerns. The customer service is nonexistent and the "customer resolution" is a joke. They don't help you with any issues and only redirect you to the worker who did the bad job initially. They send generic emails and won't respond to any inquiries. They won't help if you have an issue. They open a "dispute", which is useless. They give a timeline for the worker to respond and then nothing happens when they don't respond. They "reopen" the dispute happens but a never-ending cycle, wasting time.

She was unable to take measurements and was more than 1 foot off and she simply skipped a few windows on the plan! We had to tell her about codes and she still did not get it. We tried to help her but she complained she could not work with us because we disrespected her work! Terrible Experience for a Security Firm. Our experience with Thumbtack has been nothing short of a nightmare. We are a security firm, and 9 out of 10 leads we received were completely useless—most were from people simply looking for employment, not clients seeking security services. When we brought this to Thumbtack’s attention, we were met with an absurdly difficult refund process. We were required to reach out to the lead, obtain proof that they were seeking employment, and then submit this to Thumbtack. Even after providing clear evidence, such as screenshots, we were told this wasn’t enough. Thumbtack demanded that the lead go back to their platform and explicitly type in the chat that they were looking for a job. This was an unreasonable and nearly impossible requirement to meet.

Thumbtack’s leads are extremely poorly sourced, and they force these leads on you whether they are relevant or not. On top of this, they require an initial $500 payment to get started. Once that was used up, they continued charging our card for terrible leads. This has been the worst experience we’ve ever had with a lead generation service. If you’re a business looking for quality leads, I implore you to avoid Thumbtack at all costs and use Bark instead. Bark’s leads are far superior, and their service is far less frustrating. If you are thinking about joining Thumbtack as a Pro, I would caution you. I didn’t know how it worked but when you sign up they don’t automatically charge you. You can look through leads and reach out to customers but I never had one person respond. Somewhere along the way my targeting preferences were changed and I started seeing charges for leads. I was charged over $550 for 10 leads. Out of those leads, 4 people never responded and 2 needed a totally different service outside of my scope of work. I requested a refund on each of these and Thumbtack denied each one.

Here’s the other kicker, a customer can choose up to 4 other contractors in the first hour and can choose as many as they want after that. So, not only are you paying for a lead but you have a lot of competition. As an example, I paid $65 for a lead where the customer never responded. That means Thumbtack potentially made $325 (5 x $65), plus $ for any additional Pros the customer contacted, on a lead where a customer never responded. I filed for a refund on the non-qualified leads and they were denied. It’s pretty clear their mission is to charge Pros for qualified and non-qualified leads, but always deny requests for refunds. This is very shortsighted for long-term success of a company because contractors will not continue to pay for non-qualified leads and always be denied when requesting a refund.

I wish I could say I have fond memories of using Thumbtack, but my recent experiences have led me on quite the rollercoaster ride—one that I just can’t recommend to anyone anymore. I started with hopes of finding quality service providers, but I can only describe my journey post-2022 as thoroughly disheartening.

Initially, Thumbtack had the makings of an excellent platform. However, over the years, I've watched it go from a reliable lead generator to what feels like a hollow shell of its former self. Their phone support is less than useless, often rerouted between phone agents back and forth without any helpful resolution to actual service inquiries. When I called in hopes of settling a misunderstanding, I was provided with a dizzying matinee of outdated terms & conditions—it was as if I had entered some alternate dimension of customer service.

It was puzzling, to say the least. Browsing their website, I'd come across specific terms that should apply, but attempting to apply them was like piecing together a jigsaw puzzle with half the pieces missing. When I asked customer service about the inconsistencies, I was given vague references to “outdated” online policy. Really? In a digital-age company, that’s a major red flag.

As if that wasn’t frustrating enough, I've noticed more and more fake leads cluttering the platform. Instead of helping businesses find genuine work and clients, Thumbtack seemed to have regressed to a place where the leads felt like ghost whispers—there one minute and gone the next. I opted to give it one more shot, hoping they would salvage our relationship, but the toll-free number operated like an emotional black hole, particularly when trying to connect about my actual queries, not sales jargon.

All in all, it saddens me to see a company with so much potential evolve into yet another shadow of what came before, much like experiences with Yelp that also ended in frustration more often than expectation. I truly hope Thumbtack turns things around, as I’d love for future customers to reconnect with the genuine service they used to promise—but as it stands now, I can no longer be part of this increasingly disappointing narrative.

I am a Thumbtack Pro, or I used to be one. I started with them since the beginning, that was about 5 or 6 years ago, they used to charge the right amount, the quality of the leads was great. My business was making money using only Thumbtack. Now I barely use them. Why, what changed? They've got greedier, now they are a public company. Just yesterday, I started to get leads, but all of them for things I don't do. I sell blinds, shades and drapes, which is under "window treatment installation or repair" but ALL the people who contacted me yesterday, wanted someone to install hurricane shutters, which is something I don't do. I am not a handyman.

Requested a refund, at this point the refund is about $100 or more. They tell me that the charge is right and if I don't want to do those, I have to modify my services listed. Well Hurricane shutters, to my knowledge is not window treatment and is installed outside. Gladly, my business does not need the poor service that Thumbtack is offering me. So I lower the amount of money I would allow them to take from me. I cannot recommend a business like that. My business warranty, which is how and why people contact me, it's 100%. They might not care much what a professional has to say, they only care about share holders now. But if they don't fix that mentality, they will not have a business anymore.

I started with the company in 2012. I was likely one of the only ones in my area, possibly my state. I had hundreds over leads daily. So many I could pick and choose which I wanted. Even ended up hiring others along with my self to take in all the jobs. That changed in 2018. In 2018 they began stealing money. Literally every lead .2 cents. When I was getting hundreds daily this added up. Then from there they doubled the Cost per lead; then tripled. Then began sending fake leads; computer generated fraudulent leads. Or a customer I've already had; using their information a second, or third time without the customer even being aware. As I checked with those clients. Then when I sent a complaint about a lead that made me uncomfortable and was illegal. They shut down my profile and ability to use the app further. Despite me having over 300 reviews and being hired over 1500 times. I was top on there platform.

Overall they became similar to all companies who take a turn and greed feeds them instead of integrity. Honestly they should be shut down. Oh and another key component, the reason their leads are found so much is because Google funded this company 100million. They are making sure they get their money by using their search engine to populate Thumbtack.

I used to love Thumbtack many years ago. I just closed my life coaching service on Thumbtack today. They double charged me for a client who has never called me, won't pick up the phone when I tried to call. They have a 30-day refund (if you can get the refund, which Thumbtack almost always now says your refund request was denied). I called on day 31 and asked if they would refund both charges, which amounted to almost $150 total. They declined it, but they thanked me for my 8 years of being a client!! Mind you this is for a life coaching job in which I would have to work 2 sessions with a client just to break even. This is so wrong - Thumbtack should only be earning a portion of what I earn, not more than I earn.

In my life-coaching business, it isn't like going to a therapist, where you go for years, but usually the client has one problem that can be solved in a couple of sessions. Thumbtack sets the pricing and the minimum is $54 and up to $140. I told the Thumbtack guy that makes no sense. I provide other services where I charge $300 per hour, and I net maybe 5K for the whole job, so yeah I would be willing to spend $100 for a lead. But these Thumbtack people are clueless - totally unprofessional to charge $140 for a job in which you might only make $85, a few hundred dollars at most. I want to set my lead pricing for life coaching to $15, but with a $54 minimum, it doesn't make financial sense. I terminated that service.

I also have complained to Thumbtack that they don't tell the public that the professional is paying for the lead...so people maybe have a bad day and sign up for something and the next day they change their mind thinking it is no big deal - no harm done. If they knew the harm done - that I spent $140 to get their name, or if they had skin in the game and had to pay $25 nonrefundable fee to Thumbtack, would they think twice before signing up?

I signed up for Thumbtack after being told repeatedly how their platform could bring more clients to my business. One service that caught my attention was the direct lead feature, which was supposed to connect me with potential clients in my working area. Unfortunately, this experience has been far from what was promised. Firstly, many of the leads I receive are located well outside the areas I serve, making it frustrating and pointless to pursue them. Even worse, these "direct" leads are not exclusive—other pros are sent the same leads, yet I’m still being charged for them, regardless of whether I secure the job.

Despite numerous calls from Thumbtack pushing various forms and strategies to improve my visibility, I haven’t seen the return on investment they claim. I’m consistently charged for leads that don’t align with my target market or service area, and I find the platform’s value highly questionable. For me, this service has been more of a drain on my resources than a benefit. I wouldn't recommend Thumbtack for businesses looking for quality leads. The platform and its services, in my experience, are simply not worth the time or money.

If I could give zero stars I would -- I would give negative stars! I started out with thumbtack several years ago and I was a "top pro" for many years, then they changed their "platform" and now look at legitimate businesses as their next greedy meal. Initially the prices for leads were very reasonable, and I rarely, if ever had a lead that resulted in a no-reply, or disconnected phone numbers, or received leads that did not even HAVE A DOG! ( I am a dog trainer.)

NOW: they "show" your profile along with every other dog trainer (or whatever your field is...) and ENCOURAGE potential clients to connect with MORE providers than maybe the one or two they chose. They DO NOT disclose to the potential customer/client that the provider is charged for every single "lead" (I use the term loosely) they receive. Up until a few years ago it was a great way to get clients. NOW, they keep changing the "rules" and the costs keep going up. Now they literally have providers bidding AGAINST other providers by upping the amount a provider is willing to pay. So, if i.e. If trainer A charges $10 and trainer B charges $50 for the same service (Based on offerings, and level of education, and what their offering provides ) trainer B "could" absorb the lead fee of $40, but trainer A could not (at least not if they are in the BUSINESS of earning a living.)

In addition they offer "canned" replies for an outrageous monthly fee, so if a trainer is not able to answer a lead right away-- it will seem to the customer that they got a quick reply from said trainer, which they may then start corresponding with an hire before the average trainer can get back to them. In my case I typically reply in 1-2 hours if I am out with a client. But another trainer will "reply" in 4 minutes. Come ON! How is this even okay??? In addition, "leads" are more likely than not to be 1. not read, 2. not answered, 3. wrong phone number, 4. disconnected phone number, 5. not an actual person looking for a service.

I personally have received more "wrong and disconnected" phone numbers in the past year than I did in the 10 years prior. They deny the requests for refund as "not meeting their requirements" - to which I ask "what ARE they." On their own "Refund Request" form, it will list things like "bad phone number" or "no response" or "customer stopped communicating" or "not the decision maker" etc. BUT those are the very reasons they will deny a refund as "Not meeting their requirement for a refund."

In the past providers had the opportunity to "need more information" from the buyer. This allowed the provider to ask questions like "do you have a dog currently" or "do you have a doctor's letter for a service dog," etc. so those without a dog, or those wanted to get their dog certified as a service dog so they can fly free when the family goes on vacation, can get a reply that says a. I can help with prepurchase of your new dog for $xx or b. It's against the law to train a dog as a service animal to avoid plane tickets for them, without pays $25-40 out of the providers pocket.

How am I even able to sell my service from a lead with a wrong or disconnected phone number? Or a 12 year old that didn't get permission from parents to even seek out dog training? Or someone that doesn't have a dog and doesn't even plan on getting a dog? Or even better, someone asking about dog boarding when it isn't even a service I provide? These are legitimate leads according to THUMBTACK and non-refundable. That is absolutely wrong. How is that ethical or even -- LEGAL???? They just provide blanket denials for refund requests. SO why even OFFER them?

This once good company is the worst or the worst kind of bottom feeder. Users do not pay them- The providers do!! Yet they outright charge ridiculous amounts, and deny legitimate refunds. And this whole bidding thing is pitting trainers against each other and may in fact be the reason my industry has priced itself out of the homes that need their services the most!!! It's like all 100 dogs being let out into the Roman Roman Colosseum to fight over a 10 oz sirloin. Ridiculous.. and isn't this in SOME WAY illegal???

Thumbtack claims they conduct background checks. Do NOT trust this. I connected with a 'pro' who ended up actually being a fraud. After he defrauded us and stole our money, I found out that he had an open criminal case for consumer fraud. We would never have used him knowing this, but we trusted the 'verified background check' Thumbtack posts on their website for the pros on their platform.

When contacting Thumbtack, they made it clear that their background checks only flag if the pro is convicted, not if they are currently facing criminal charges. This means they can have criminal charges for multiple crimes and they will let them stroll into your house, exposing your family to potential criminals. The only thing Thumbtack offered me was to act as a mediator between me and the crook they sent me. So due to their negligence, we lost all our money and now have no kitchen. Make sure you background check anyone they recommend!

They quickly refunded you for fishy leads. If a customer didn't respond, your money was refunded. No more. Lead prices have increased ten-fold. I am currently paying almost $200 a month, and getting very little out of it. My business is hurting because of this shift. Would not recommend Thumbtack to anyone. They obviously don't care, and make it hard to complain or contact them. I am seriously considering deactivating my account, and am looking for options to replace this platform.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Thumbtack. The customer service is simply awful. There is no adequate support when you need help, and communication is practically nonexistent. They take forever to respond, and when they finally do, the answers are vague and unhelpful. One of the biggest frustrations is the charge for leads. They charge a significant amount for leads that you often don't even get a chance to speak with the client. Many of these "leads" never return messages, and you end up paying for something that generates no return. It's like throwing money away!

Additionally, Thumbtack's lead system seems to be manipulated. I received several irrelevant leads that were clearly not interested in the services I offer. It feels like they are more interested in making money from the charges than providing quality leads. The dispute resolution process is another joke. When you try to contest an unfair charge, it's like talking to a wall. There is no flexibility or understanding from their side. They simply refuse to listen and resolve the issues of the professionals using the platform. In summary, my experience with Thumbtack was terrible. Poor customer service, unfair charges, and a faulty lead system. I do not recommend this company to anyone. It's a waste of time and money.

Do not engage with this company as a contractor or pro. Their lead system is unfair and they will make getting a refund complicated to do. How it works- if a lead reaches out to 5 pros, all 5 pros get charged whether or not the lead decides to work with them or not. I literally had one lead reach out, then in the next message say "disregard this message". I got charged for that. And I'm sure the other pros did as well. Be careful with their refunds. Instead of refunding it back to the original payment, they will issue it as a credit. You have to notify them that they refund it back to the original payment. I lost money because they didn't want to refund the credits when I decided to close my account.

Thumbtack is the WORST if you are a professional! They seem to forget that the "Pros" are their customers also. They are completely non transparent with customers about how Pros get charged, have a criminally arbitrary scale for charging for leads, many of the leads do not match the Pro's criteria, allow customers to "shotgun" Pros (which is fine, but still charge the Pro's the same amount for the lead even if it is less valuable then), have a completely shoddy refund protocol for fake or erroneous leads (including a patronizing message when they give you a partial refund out of the goodness of their heart), and incredibly limiting structure for Pros to charge. It's nice that they round everything off with a nearly absent customer support. I cannot stress how lame this service is for professionals.

As time has passed however it's become clear their only goal is to take as much cash from as many contractors per lead as possible while making it impossible to get a refund. For instance- a customer who contacts and then disappears without hiring any of the 3 contractors they contacted- no refund gotta pay. A lead that is not 100 square feet when you have preferences set to 100 or more- no refund gotta pay. No phone customer service even though they now want us to talk to customers directly. I've notified her that she's in violation of the agreement and terminated the project. Thumbtack is a joke. My review is quiet simple and straightforward. Thumbtack claim is false. Thumbtack identifies everyone listed in their site as a "Pro", but, has no mechanism to qualify them if they really know what they do. In 2 jobs, I was hit with the so called 'Pro', renegotiating the price on the work start day onsite and in 1 of the jobs, the contractor left me with a ugly work, worser than it was. Clearly the contractor had no clue how to do the job and brought a helper "Pro", that was even worse.

My only reason to hire this contractor was that Thumbtack calls this person a "Pro" and I trusted Thumbtack on their claim. Contractor was not a "Pro" by any means, only it was Thumbtack's false claim. Even the contractor himself said that to me, well after he left me with an incomplete work. Thumbtack wants me to now submit a review about the contractor. So they can pit us against each other and simply watch the show. I declined, am not doing that. Worst concept ever. No protection for contractor at all. The fee should be put on customer not contractors. Customers don’t want to pay much and on top of that they select multiple contractors without knowing Thumbtack charges so much fee to all contractors. A lot of times we got charged and we didn’t even get a chance to talk to customer or customer don’t respond at all. Thumbtack should let customer aware that every contractor is being charged with fee regardless they get job or don’t even get a chance to talk to customer.

I have hired Jay ** of Dream Finish company in Akron Ohio thru Thumbtack, to patch and paint my ceiling. Upon completion, we agreed that he will be paid by a check that I will send electronically. It took several days for the bank to deliver a paper check but it was delivered, signed and cashed by the recipient. Nevertheless, said contractor reported to Thumbtack that he had never received the payment. So Thumbtack took his words for granted and removed my account. Just like that. I can prove that I did pay the contractor. I have a screenshot of the payment and a PDF file of the check. Sure enough, the $300 came out from my bank account. Too bad that the Thumbtack doesn’t bother to double-check and takes their contractor's words for granted. Will never use them again and don’t recommend.

***HOMEOWNERS BEWARE*** I found this contractor on Thumbtack. We are profoundly disappointed by our experience with MOSQUEDA Renovations, owned by Oscar **. We advise against using this company for home renovations, as they failed to meet our expectations and even caused further damage. Despite hiring them with hopes of receiving professional, top-notch work, our project has been riddled with numerous issues.

The expensive lighting fixtures we purchased are already malfunctioning and completely broken. Several sections of the painting job remain incomplete, and there are persistent problems with the tile work, especially noticeable on our front patio where the tiles are uneven and retain water from the pool. These issues, among others, require immediate attention.

Additionally, we are dismayed by the subpar repairs, the replacement of tinted windows in the shower area without consulting us, and the dismissive attitude toward our concerns about tile quality and door refinishing. The flooring in our master bedroom, installed incorrectly without proper underlayment, is now lifting and cracking, despite assurances that it would "settle."

Communication with Oscar and his team has been extremely poor, characterized by instances of no-call, no-show, and a disregard for our attempts to reach them. We were compelled to resort to impersonation to elicit a response, casting doubt on the reliability of their services. Considering the substantial $40,000 investment in this project, we expected a level of professionalism and craftsmanship that has been sorely lacking. We demand prompt resolution of these issues and clear commitments regarding warranties and guarantees for the work completed.

Unfortunately, our trust in Mosqueda Renovations has been irreparably damaged, leading us to file a complaint with the Arizona Board of Registrar’s. Their inspection validated our concerns, but more importantly, we no longer feel comfortable allowing Oscar into our home. Their dishonesty and lack of integrity have wasted both our time and resources, not to mention the interest we are paying on this subpar work. It's important to note that filing a complaint with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors mandates allowing the same contractor back into your home, even though it's been proven they are not capable. Despite adhering to this requirement and allowing them back into our home, they were still unable to rectify the issues.

As a professional service provider, I am utterly disgusted with my experience on Thumbtack. Let me be unequivocally clear: Thumbtack's business model is nothing short of predatory. They lure you in with promises of connecting you with potential clients, only to slap you with exorbitant charges for leads that are often irrelevant or unfiltered junk.

First and foremost, Thumbtack's pricing structure is an absolute scam. They charge professionals for leads, regardless of whether those leads are legitimate or not. It's like paying for a fancy dinner only to find out it's a moldy sandwich. What's worse is that these charges add up quickly, draining your hard-earned money with little to no return on investment.

But it's not just the predatory charges that make Thumbtack a nightmare to deal with. The quality of leads they provide is abysmal. More often than not, I've found myself wasting precious time and resources on leads that go absolutely nowhere. It's as if Thumbtack doesn't bother to vet the leads at all, leaving professionals to sift through a mountain of garbage in search of a single diamond.

What's even more infuriating is Thumbtack's utter unwillingness to help professionals get what they pay for. When you try to reach out for support or request a refund for bogus leads, you're met with silence or a runaround. It's like talking to a brick wall – frustrating and utterly pointless. I refuse to be a part of Thumbtack's unethical practices any longer. I urge fellow professionals to steer clear of this cesspool of a platform and explore other avenues for generating leads. Google Ads, Angie's List, or any other reputable platform would be a better investment of your time and money. In conclusion, Thumbtack is a disgrace to the professional services industry. They prey on hardworking professionals, offering false promises and delivering nothing but disappointment. Save yourself the headache and avoid Thumbtack like the plague.

Thumbtack as a pro is solely based on paying for leads. Customers are unaware every prob they contact gets charged as they mostly have free account. Thumbtack preys on small businesses and charges for every lead with little chance of getting refund for bad leads. There is no way for a pro to know if leads are even legit as 75% who reach out don’t even read the messages they are sent, 10-15% don’t match preset criteria or budgets set, and the rest are legitimate leads. There is no way to even verify that leads are legitimate. Anyone can produce false leads so they get paid. If they want to be a quality trusted company they should come up with a monthly plan that’s reasonable for leads and then charge a fee when jobs are booked from those leads. Can’t fake jobs but sure can fake leads.

In fall of 2023 I hired a cement worker through Thumbtack to replace 2 driveways and two sidewalks, knowing that permits would need to be pulled for the sidewalks. The contractor estimated it may be an additional $700 for permits. We prepaid for the driveway job, and upon completion we paid the remaining balance plus $1,641.00 prepayment toward sidewalk materials for the next project. When the contractor came back from the city permit office, he told us he was raising his price by $10,999.00 for permits. Since hiring the city costs less than that, we declined and asked for our deposit back. The contractor told us he was keeping our money because "we had a deal" and we were not allowing him to complete the sidewalks (for an additional $11 grand). Then he told us he was leaving to Mexico and would return the money in January (he didn't).

We tried to file a complaint with Thumbtack, but were told that this was a "price disagreement", and Thumbtack would not pursue it. We have the original estimate and a recording of the contractor verifying the payments made to him in cash and the dates they were made. It's not worth the money to get a lawyer to get my money back, and I'm upset because Thumbtack guarantees that this won't happen, but used the loophole that since we wouldn't pay an extra $11,000 for permits, it was his right to steal $1,641 paid towards a job that was never done.

Holes in the floor were busted out with a hammer instead of using a hole saw. Boards were cut too short and they were putting in tiny pieces to fill in the gaps instead of cutting the flooring in normal complete pieces. Flooring pieces cut to where pieces were fitting too tight and would not allow expansion. They had no intention of using subfloor adhesive and that is what subfloor adhesive is made for. Corner 2x4s cut too short to even reach the floor. Flooring cut too short to even reach beams to attach to and were bowing when stepped on. Insulation that was barely put in completely fell to the ground in basement.

Absolutely zero drywall put up even after being told some pieces were already cut and ready to just put up. All of this left in this condition when they quit job. All of this in 5 hours they were here. THESE WERE THE ONLY THINGS NEEDED FOR THIS JOB AND THEY COULD NOT EVEN DO ANY OF IT. They refuse to do anything to resolve all of these problems or refund my money for their absolute do nothing incompetence. Significant waste of materials. Significant damage to my property. I was also told that the name on our Thumbtack account doesn't match the name on the license. This is pure laziness on Thumbtack's part. Had they bothered to actually look at the license they would have seen that my business's principal is shown on line one, which is immediately followed by my business's dba. The dba matches the name of our Thumbtack account. Furthermore, the email that was sent me stating this is from a donotreply email, so I have no way of emailing them back. When calling in it's Thumbtack policy that I cannot speak with the verification team.

I have to speak with a low level agent, who is "apparently" is also not allowed to speak with the verification team. They can only pass along messages. How can they possibly fine this efficient? At any rate, the license is still showing as not verified. I was told that the team that handles license verification should need no more than 1-2 business to verify the documentation I provided. It's now been five days! All the while potential clients are seeing my business as not a verified contractor, and I might be losing out on jobs. While they originally delivered qualified leads with good conversion rates, things have changed significantly in the past two years. Currently, I receive one qualified lead per month versus four "doubtful" leads who don't engage (read messages, answer calls, etc.). Despite these low-quality leads, I'm charged between $28 and $98 each.

Thumbtack's policy towards professionals has become unfair. The "zero refund" policy for these unproductive leads makes it a gamble, and achieving high visibility requires allowing them to charge you hefty per-lead fees. If you refuse, you're buried with no leads. As a small business, I spend $800 monthly on Thumbtack, but my conversion rate has plummeted from 80% to a mere 20% in two years. While I still receive a few good leads, it's a significant financial burden.

Given my membership-based service model, I can absorb this cost. However, I urge businesses without similarly resilient models to stay clear of Thumbtack. Their current practices could leave you financially strapped before you even turn a profit. In short, unless your business allows you to weather these questionable leads and high costs, avoid Thumbtack.

What is particularly troubling is that these leads lacked any work description, making it impossible for me to assess their needs or determine the legitimacy of the inquiries. Moreover, the fact that these leads were sent between 3 AM and 5 AM raises serious concerns about their authenticity. It is highly improbable that genuine potential clients would be submitting requests at such odd hours.

When I contacted your customer support to address these issues and requested a refund, I was met with repeated refusals. The explanation provided, that Thumbtack cannot force clients to provide valid contact numbers or any other info that will prove the lead authenticity, is unacceptable. As a professional contractor who has invested time and money (over $1,500 a week!!!) into Thumbtack, I expect a reasonable level of quality control in the leads I am provided. It is disheartening to see that Thumbtack is unwilling to take responsibility for the quality of the leads it provides and that there seems to be no effort to rectify the situation or compensate for the wasted time and resources.

This experience has severely eroded my trust in Thumbtack as a reliable platform for connecting with potential clients. It is disappointing to feel taken advantage of after years of being a dedicated pro contractor on your platform. I urge you to thoroughly investigate these issues and take corrective action to ensure the quality and authenticity of the leads you provide to your pro contractors. Additionally, I request a refund for the leads that were clearly invalid and unproductive for my business. I hope that Thumbtack can address these concerns promptly and restore my confidence in the platform.

As an electrical services company, we had an enormous push from Thumbtack to help us build a solid client list; Thumbtack's charges were fair back then. Now, since 3 weeks ago, Thumbtack has gone crazy high with their charges. The situation is frustrating for pros; the charges are around 50% of our profit, sometimes even more, since they charge us when the client contacts us for an offer that sometimes the client ends up not accepting. Ex: client contact: $100.18 (Thumbtack fee), our rate $200. So, Thumbtack made 50.09% profit. For us, $200 - $100.18 (Thumbtack fee) - $40 materials= $59.82 or 29.91% of the total. As someone already stated, I am surprised Thumbtack is not yet involved in a huge lawsuit!

0 STARS!!!! Poor lead generation. Charges out the butt for leads, customers cancel and then the company can't refund the money. Charges such a high rate for leads, the customer ends up having to take the cost or the jobs aren't worth doing. Customers make fake leads then we can't get refunded from Thumbtack. List goes on and on. What a poor performance from this lead gen company. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL LIE, ROB AND STEAL YOUR MONEY!!! Save your time and go to Angies or someone else!

I am marketing my moving company through Thumbtack and I have been a loyal customer for about 4 years now. Thumbtack is the only app I market through, mainly because I spend so much money per week/month $340.00 a week and $1,360.00 a month to be exact. I’ve been extremely successful throughout my time using this app. However the changes they are making are compromising the way us as professionals and contractors are able to successfully book jobs and conduct our business.

First thing is that I don’t believe they make the customer aware that every professional or contractor they request a quote from is being charged fully rather they book with us or not, we are charged. So a customer can reach out to 5 pros and all 4 pros are charged anywhere between $10-$200 depending on the job request. Instant booking are now triple the amount per lead and it still isn’t a guarantee that you will book the job, mainly due to the customer not understanding what they are signing up for. Thumbtack has become very greedy and it’s starting to feel like we are being scammed out of our money and time. I’m extremely upset with the changes and miscommunication they are creating between us as pros and the customers we are looking to serve. I’m very close to shutting down my account with Thumbtack and will spending my money elsewhere.

Don’t not sign up as a pro!!!! I repeat don’t sign up as a pro! This company are scam artists! As you start you will get some refunds after that everything will be decline or they will say this not eligible for a refund. The instant booking is way for them to get more money from you at whatever they want to charge you. I is don’t believe all the leads are real. Well the bottom line is if you want to get scammed then sign up.

I have been receiving leads through Thumbtack for several years on and off and for the most part had been pretty satisfied, except for the few leads that were not good leads that they would not refund, until recently. They have started requiring their pros to participate in instant book. The cost of these bookings can be as much as a third of the cost of the job. It is ridiculously expensive, and I am not at all sure that forcing someone to participate in a plan they do not want in order to consider receiving the less expensive leads is all that legal. I do sense a class action lawsuit in the wind, and would be happy to participate should anyone else feel the same.

I have cancelled my account with them because I was charged $53.00 for a $160.00 booking who ended up cancelling when I couldn't guarantee that her now black carpet that was supposed to be off-white/tan carpet would come clean. When I asked for a refund it was declined. They did provide a free instant book which was now only a $120.00 job. At least this client is reasonable. However, I am still out the $53.00 so I have lost more than a 3rd of this $120.00 job. They used to make the pro think they cared about them, now they make it clear they only care about their own pockets. Steer clear of this service. They change their policies on a whim and don't really give you much say.

Thumbtack confirms your appt all week long. Then on the day you expect Smiths Handyman and maintenance Vince leaves a message that he did not write our confirmation, but thumbtack wrote our messages and on the day he was supposed to be at my house he states the price is $110.00/hr, not the $40.00 stated in the ad, and give him a call to set up a say and time. Unbelievable.

I have been a top Thumbtack pro for over four years and they have never changed. I am honestly shocked that they haven’t been hit with a huge lawsuit yet. Stealing constantly from pros is an understatement. They have total disregard for the refund policy and as many has mentioned they refuse to answer the phone half the time. I honestly do not wish to do business with Thumbtack any longer. Beware!
