We had several bids for our recent horse pasture fence project. This was a fairly large job/project. After reviewing all these bids we went with "NICE VIEW FENCE". First, they were quick to come and examine the fence project. They were within the average wait time for starting. They were priced better than all the other bids. Nice View Fence did a super nice, quality job. This was a lot of work, and they even removed the old fence and hauled it away. Their work is of definite quality. They did everything properly, no cheap shortcuts. We have some more work coming up for another couple of fence projects, and we will look nowhere else than Nice View Fence.

I am a longtime Top Pro at Thumbtack with extremely high ratings, ranking, and reviews - so this is written with deep experience and knowledge of their business model. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars with this company. More and more in the past two years, Thumbtack treats its Pros fraudulently. They create fake leads using bots to scam contractors out of overpriced lead fees and offer no real customer service. 75% of the fake bot clients never even respond after posting job requests, and the other 25% intentionally post in the wrong category. I have actually interviewed so called “clients” who do not respond by finding their addresses through a web search and asking them to call me. Guess what? Over half say they NEVER EVEN POSTED ON THUMBTACK TO BEGIN WITH.

I have filed a report with the FTC, my congress person, our local police department fraud division and district attorney with the dozens of cases I have uncovered. We will proceed with a civil case based upon those investigations. Class action lawsuit, everybody?!?! Don’t even bother calling the number given on every boiler plate response from their mouthpiece in every one star review on here. They’ll just waste more of your time and deny your request in the end. Lawyer up and file complaints with your local authorities, agencies and elected officials. Time to stop this evil empire.

I needed a new bathtub door installed. Edi ** was the first to call. He gave me a price of $280 which was fair. He was prompt and arrived on time with his father. When he got here he told me that I didn’t tell him he needed to remove the old door. It never occurred to me nor did he ever ask. The price went up. Additionally, I had asked if he could also install all the new hardware for the tub and the bathroom sink (before he came over); he said yes. Long story short, when the job was finished and after he scratched the black frame of the bathtub door, he ended up charging me a total of $630 and was there for four hours. I was left to pick up all the trash and dispose of everything left over. I’ll say he did a good job but WAY TOO EXPENSIVE.

Dear Thumbtack Team, Field of Work: Home Theater Installation, ART Installation, TV mounting. I am writing to express my deep frustration with the current state of your lead generation model. After more than five years as a loyal service provider on your platform, I’ve watched Thumbtack’s practices shift from collaborative to exploitative, and it’s now reaching a breaking point.

Here’s why: Exorbitant, Unjustifiable Costs: Charging $22+ per lead (and rising) while sending the same lead to 4–5 vendors means Thumbtack pockets $90–$110+ per customer request. This is corporate greed at its worst. You’re profiting astronomically while forcing providers to compete in a rigged system. Diluted Value for Providers: When 4–5 vendors pay for the same lead, our chances of securing work plummet. We’re essentially funding a lottery where Thumbtack always wins, and providers lose time, money, and morale. The lack of exclusivity or priority for long-term partners like myself is insulting. Declining ROI and Sustainability: My cost to acquire jobs through Thumbtack now outweighs the revenue from those jobs. What’s the incentive to stay? The “opportunity” to bleed money?

No Reward for Loyalty: Despite years of dedication and fees paid, there’s no advantage for providers who’ve helped build this platform. Instead, policies increasingly favor Thumbtack’s profit margins over the survival of small businesses that rely on you. Quality vs. Quantity Overload: Flooding customers with 5+ quotes diminishes the perceived value of our services. It pressures providers to undercut prices, degrading service quality and customer trust in Thumbtack itself. This model is unsustainable. If Thumbtack continues prioritizing short-term profits over the viability of its providers, you’ll drive away the very partners who make your platform functional.

I urge you to: Cap the number of vendors per lead (e.g., 2–3 max) to improve conversion rates. Offer loyalty tiers or discounts for long-term providers. Provide transparency into how lead costs are calculated. After five years, I want to stay—but not under these conditions. If meaningful changes aren’t made soon, I’ll have no choice but to redirect my resources to platforms that value fairness over greed. This isn’t just feedback; it’s a plea for survival. I hope Thumbtack listens before it’s too late.

Title: Ongoing Issues with Lead Relevance, Billing Practices, and Lack of Support. As a long-time professional user of Thumbtack, I feel compelled to share my growing concerns with their current business practices. While the platform initially provided some value in connecting service providers with potential clients, it has become increasingly frustrating and financially burdensome due to ongoing issues that remain unresolved.

Despite setting very specific preferences for the types of leads I’m willing to accept—such as event type, services offered, and budget range—I continue to be charged for inquiries that fall completely outside of those parameters. These include requests for services I explicitly do not offer, as well as multi-day or out-of-scope projects that do not align with my availability, pricing, or listed capabilities.

This is not only a breach of reasonable business expectations but raises concerns about the integrity of the matching system. It creates a financial disadvantage for professionals who rely on Thumbtack to deliver qualified leads within their chosen criteria. Being charged for leads that contradict one’s set preferences can be reasonably interpreted as a form of misrepresentation under standard commercial practices.

Additionally, the lack of access to a transparent and effective dispute resolution process has made matters worse. It is now nearly impossible to speak directly with anyone in the Disputes Department or escalate issues to a supervisor. The automated responses fail to address the core concerns, and the appeals process lacks accountability and fairness.

As a professional who invests significantly in Thumbtack every week, I would expect a higher level of customer service, accountability, and respect. At the very least, there should be a consistent method for addressing lead mismatches, especially when the platform’s own filters are not being honored. While I remain hopeful that Thumbtack will reevaluate its policies and restore the quality of service it once provided, I caution other service providers to carefully consider the financial and operational implications before committing to their Pro Services platform.

I have been a pro on thumbtack for a year. I do not find Thumbtack to be a good platform to get leads from. On a continuous basis I would receive leads that do not align with my scope of work. I am charged for direct leads that I have declined to do as the work does not align with my scope of work nor would it financially make it worth me taking the time to do the work. I have called up on leads right after I received one only to learn that another person was hired a day or two prior to me getting the lead. I have tried to be patient with thumbtack. I have spoken to them several times about the issue and have had very little luck in getting any matter resolved.

On July 21st I spoke with their customer service department and was told there was nothing that can be done. After that conversation I told them to please delete my account and was told no by the agent that I would have to send in a request in writing for them to review on whether I can delete my account in the mean time I am still getting leads sent to me that are not in my scope of work and I am getting direct leads of which I have declined and am still getting charged for.

I would recommend to serious experienced and qualified contractors and handyman invest your money can n another plat form. Leave this site to those who are just looking to pay their bills, by a six pack of beer or a bag of dope. Find a site where you can truly make a good living. It’s also frustrating that the same lead is sold to multiple pros, which undermines the value of paying for it. As a professional using Thumbtack to grow my business, I’ve found the platform to be incredibly unfair. I’ve been charged over $100 for two leads simply because the customer “selected my company directly”—yet neither responded at all. These types of charges are automatic and non-refundable, even when there’s zero interaction. Worse, I’ve received leads completely outside my job preferences or with incomplete/inaccurate information, yet I'm still billed $50+ for them. It feels like a system designed to generate revenue for Thumbtack, not to actually help small businesses succeed. If you're a small business owner trying to build your reputation and get real leads, I do not recommend Thumbtack. There are much more transparent and cost-effective platforms out there. They damaged our otherwise meticulous garage, and improperly installed a water heater. I have had 2 licensed plumbers inspect their work and each called the result extremely poorly done, laughably bad.

The water heater was also not as requested. They did not follow through with sending a receipt, they are not answering phone calls, and making no attempts to remedy the solution. I have filed a complaint with our state L and I department, which is in the process of fining them. That however does not result in getting my funds back and funding a real plumber to correct their terribly bad work. Thumbtack is making millions by allowing people to misrepresent their credentials and Thumbtack makes no efforts to keep fraudulent people from using that company to defraud people. After the L and I issues are done I will be filing a lawsuit.

The referral part is great! But the experience of some of these are basically handymen claiming they are professionals. If I hire a handyman, then that fine, but don't claim to know something else if you don't.

I hired a few times, and had a few messes from these referrals. And the Thumbtack team does not help you as a customer, the vendors messed up, and no help in resolving the issue, the worst part is they play dumb, and answer what you don't ask. Basically they upset you more, Never using this service again. Also, I get calls month later from these vendors when I say I no longer hiring for the job. We moved in to our new house in OnTop of the World on April 21, 2025. We wanted projects to get completed, at a reasonable cost. We chose one of their highly recommended handymen. He started by hanging 3 tv’s and 2 ceiling fans. First, he showed up without a ladder. Luckily I have 3 of them. It took him all day to do this job. Next he was installing a water softener. I wish he had told me he didn’t feel comfortable doing this job l. He did a terrible job and he overcharged for his work. It took him all day to do it. A couple of days later it started leaking. Thumbtack wanted all the information, job, prices, etc. They gave me the impression they were going to make it right. In the end they said they couldn’t do anything about the issue. I paid the handyman a $1000 and then paid a plumber $800 to fix it. Thumbtack was useless in dealing with the problem. All they said was they were very sorry I had this problem. I will never use Thumbtack services again.

Erica was very professional but a little pushy on selling other services, house cleaning.

The handyman came out, was very nice, talked a little too much about his personal life but got the jobs done which took him about 2 1/2 hours. All was completed correctly except the mirror he hung in the formal dining room. When we called back to get it corrected, we were given a date a few days later and told we would be charged an additional $50.00 which we agreed too even though we had paid the $400.00 invoice in full. We received a text several hours after the Handyman was scheduled to come on a specific day, canceling appointment to move the mirror. After several text back and forth Erica spoke to my wife and basically told her that it was our problem and not her company's, they were too busy and refused to send anyone back.

I signed up for Thumbtack to connect with a single professional — ONE message sent — and within minutes, my phone exploded with texts and calls from random service providers I never contacted. These weren’t just spam calls. Every one of them had my full message, my name, and my phone number, all directly included in an email from Thumbtack.

Here’s the kicker: These emails funneled the pros into an external dashboard that "isn’t technically Thumbtack," but was clearly connected — and that’s where my private info was displayed. This is how they skirt the issue: Thumbtack claims they don’t sell your information, but in practice, they’re handing it off to a third-party network where your data is treated like a product. When I contacted support, they flat-out gaslit me, saying it must have been the individual pro I messaged. But that pro didn’t even have my number yet — she asked for it way later. It is 100% clear that Thumbtack leaked, shared, or sold my data immediately after I hit “Send.”

I am LIVID. I trusted a legitimate-looking platform with my personal contact info, and now I’m being harassed constantly. Their privacy policy STATEs that they will not give out your information - but THEY DO. Just a total violation of privacy. Screenshots attached are from a random person that reached out - they showed me the email Thumbtack sent them (Which has the PRIVATE message I sent the first pro) -- and then the second screenshot is of them telling me that my info is available for anyone to use because again, THUMBTACK SOLD IT. Be aware that this is total nonsense, Thumbtack will not honor any of their guarantees, even though they are obligated to by law. We hired a contractor from Thumbtack and he damaged our floor. We immediately documented the damages and submitted to Thumbtack, following all of the steps in their process. They ignored our communications via email and by online messaging (there is no way to call them of course). They intentionally ignored everything, which is obviously their default practice.

We sued them in small claims court and won. A thumbtack representative even showed up in court, virtually, and tried to argue that they are just a "yellow-pages" type organization with no liability for any damages done by their contractors. Obviously this is not true, their coverage responsibilities are detailed in the contract they sign with all customers. We won and Thumbtack was forced to pay us damages. Thumbtack no doubt owes thousands of people tons of money in unpaid damages. After some frustrating back-and-forth, they finally relented and sent someone new. Hope flickered briefly, only to be extinguished when the second technician also failed to mount the TV correctly. At this point, beyond exasperated, I requested a refund for the utterly useless service. Their response? A flat-out refusal.

Let me be crystal clear: I will never, ever use Thumbtack again for any future projects. My recommendation? Steer clear and head straight to Best Buy's Geek Squad. At least they have a fighting chance of getting the job done right the first time. This entire ordeal with Thumbtack was a complete waste of time and money, leaving me with an unevenly mounted TV and a profound sense of dissatisfaction.

Thumbtack has been a frustrating experience for me. I set up a profile like I did with Angie's List, entered my card info as required, and barely used the site. Then, out of nowhere, I was charged several hundred dollars overnight—despite never contacting anyone. Thumbtack claimed charges only occur when contact is made, but that wasn’t true in my case. When I reached out for a refund, my requests were denied, and I was only offered credits that didn’t even match the amount charged. I have no intention of using those credits or the platform ever again.

My bank agreed that the sudden charges seemed suspicious, refunded the money, and canceled my card. After a heated conversation with Thumbtack’s support, they canceled my profile for violating their terms—but somehow, I kept getting charges. Now, I may have to close my account entirely just because I tried their service. Be careful with Thumbtack! #Thumbtack #ScamAlert #ThumbtackScam

I had used Thumbtack over 6 years ago for finding piano students. Back in the day we were able to accept or not a lead before paying. Since then they have hiked their prices and charge your card AUTOMATICALLY even if the lead does not work out for you. First of all, I have put my ad to be only for BROOKLYN AND MANHATTAN but I received an automatic lead from NEW JERSEY which had also contacted 5 other pros. Not only did I NOT CHOOSE NEW JERSEY, the lead did not contact me directly. They send leads randomly to 5 pros in order to make money out of us without getting an actual job. I paid $26 dollars for a job that would be $65. Not only would this not work for me since I only work in BROOKLYN AND NEW YORK. The lead did not even respond since they have 4 other pros to choose from.

I had asked since then for Thumbtack to refund me because I do not want leads from New Jersey. I also don’t want them automatic, I want to choose whether the job is worth me paying for. They have refused, their policies and IN BAD FAITH COMPLETELY. I told them I never put my ad to NEW JERSEY and that I should be refunded for so. I am asking to be refunded for this lead and for my ads to be set up only for Brooklyn and Manhattan. Stop being in bad faith, you guys make money from charging the pros not the leads who contact us!!!!

I have used Thumbtack twice to move, and both times I was incredibly disappointed; I should have learned after the first use. First guy moved me from California to Illinois and he went through my things and stole some of my furniture. Smaller items, like the last gift I ever got from a family member before she passed, was also missing. Upon delivery, when I noticed a few items were missing, he said they didn't fit in the van (?) and that he had shipped them as a courteous gesture. They never arrived and I repetitively contacted him to get shipping info and thumbtack to get a refund or compensation, to which he blocked me and harassed me on social media, and thumbtack didn't help whatsoever after months of seeking help.

Second time around was a small move, and I caught one of three movers SLEEPING IN THE VAN DURING THE MOVE. They overcharged me an entire hour on my final bill so I didn't tip, and they forgot to give me a 10% discount they promised upon booking, and I forgot to ask for it. An hour after I paid and requested the 10% discount back or to be made as a tip for the two people who actually helped move me, they blocked me and removed their company on Thumbtack.

This company sends a single lead to as many "PRO'S" in your area, and charges every PRO for the Lead. While they are making money hand over foot, the Pro's are entering a bidding war with the other Pro's who are receiving the same lead information. While the end consumer has no idea that the PRO's are all being charged by their inquiry.

This platform has to be the worst source, and HORRIBLE Customer Service to say the least. We received 12 leads in two weeks which in my opinion is low, but 11 out of 12 leads were either scams/fake/wrong numbers/nonresponsive. If I was able, I would leave them a ---NEGATIVE-----5---- Star Review if it was possible. I don't write up many reviews, but this company isn't looking out for their "PRO'S" who go out and provide the services. Yes, It's that bad!!! Save your $$$ and invest it in other areas. Thumbtack is a SCAM!!!

I lost money with their service and then learned a valuable lesson in how they really operate. Each lead they send you will cost you more than it's worth and progresses higher. So you're not giving free estimates, you're paying and you're paying for leads that seem somewhat fake. See screenshot below. I spent $200 in leads for nothing. Also see the refund policy!

As a Thumbtack Pro member, I've been increasingly disappointed with the platform ever since Instant Book was eliminated. The recent changes have offered little benefit or incentive for my business. Customers seem to lack accountability, and I've noticed that many leads come from users on other platforms who simply click on my business name—resulting in charges for a lead that isn’t even genuine.

It feels like only businesses are penalized: if I request a refund for an invalid lead or an unresponsive customer, my credit request is denied. Even Angi shows more respect for its users by crediting them when similar issues arise. Adjusting lead pricing has only increased the volume of low-quality leads, without providing any quality score, ranking, or special treatment for businesses that consistently deliver great service.

After speaking with a representative, I deactivated my account. I was met with more obstacles rather than a sincere effort to resolve these issues. This platform fails to consider the experiences of both consumers and business owners seeking fair treatment and accountability. I might return if Thumbtack makes significant improvements and demonstrates that they value the success of all parties involved. Until then, I cannot recommend this platform.

Honesty & ethics is not in their vocabulary. Soon they turned to the greedy dark side and I eventually quit this nonsense. Just read their terms (22 pages!!!) of use. Gives you the creeps! I quit in 2018 when they changed again their terms, increased rates and wanted that one agrees to that they can automatically withdraw from your accounts!

All is so full of legal loopholes, twists and schemes you might as well just sign them over your bank & credit card accounts! I think Al Capone was more fair. I’ve used Thumbtack for years. I’ve been a top pro platinum business since 2019. It used to be great. We would get good solid leads for a reasonable price. Then something changed. They dramatically increased their prices. I went back to our original leads in 2019 and they were an average of $7-$10, which is an appropriate amount. It wouldn’t sting too much if it didn’t pan out with that lead. Flash forward to 2025, my small business can no longer justify the cost. I’ve been hired on thumbtack over 120 times. I maintain a exceptional 5 star rating. I have three years of “top pro”. Leads now cost $40-$60 EACH and most of them don’t respond, barely speak English or never intend to hire you in the first place (bots)? I’ve even had multiple people reach out trying to sell us software or marketing through the app with no intention to hire. The quality of leads is at an all time low.

Currently spending $300+ a month for 1-2 quality leads is not worth it. I feel like my last 4 years building my thumbtack profile has been wasted. My Experience with Thumbtack: A Warning to Others. I signed up for a service with a company called Thumbtack, which claims to connect professionals with leads for contract work. The understanding was that I would only be charged a fee if I accepted a lead and moved forward with a job. However, my experience with this company was nothing short of deceptive and financially damaging.

During the sign-up process, Thumbtack requested extensive personal information, including my Social Security number, address, and bank details, even conducting a background check. I provided this information under the assumption that they were a reputable company, as they had been in business for some time and were featured on major media outlets like Fox News and CNN. Unfortunately, I did not check their Better Business Bureau (BBB) reviews beforehand—something I deeply regret, as I later discovered a pattern of similar complaints against them.

Unexpected and Unauthorized Charges. As part of the sign-up process, I was required to enter my debit card information, which Thumbtack claimed was necessary to receive payments for completed jobs. They assured me that I would only be charged if I accepted a lead. Despite these assurances, the morning after I signed up, I woke up to find that over $300 had been withdrawn from my bank account—completely draining my balance and leaving me overdrawn by $60. This money was meant for essential expenses like groceries, gas, and my storage bill.

Shocked and frustrated, I immediately contacted Thumbtack’s customer service. I demanded a refund and explained that I had not accepted any leads and had not received any services, and did not want the account open any longer. The representative assured me that I could receive a refund, so I requested that my account be deactivated immediately (And yet 7 times I have asked and they still have not deactivated my account because I asked for proof via a hard copy letter and I haven't received anything from them). However, he then informed me that the refund process would take more than 30 days to even begin, as it had to go before some sort of refund board for final approval. This was completely unacceptable, as my money had already been withdrawn without my authorization, leaving me without the funds I needed for essential expenses—all for a service I never used. To a supervisor and escalate this issue.

A Supervisor Who Dismisses and Belittles. The next day, I received an email from a "Kyle," who identified himself as a supervisor at Thumbtack. However, the email raised immediate concerns—it contained no last name for kyle, no direct contact information, and no company phone number. Worse, the tone of the message was condescending and dismissive. Kyle essentially blamed me for the charges, claiming that had I read the company's policies, I would have known that Thumbtack charges for "advertising fees."

He even and I quote said, "I know this is hard for you to understand so I'll explain it really easy for you!" I was, shocked, angry, upset, bewildered. You name it every emotion I could feel came at this point. This man was belittling me telling me basically that I had no brains in my head, I didn't know what I was doing, couldn't read certain guidelines, etc. What he doesn't know is that I have a bachelor's degree in psychology but even so nobody should be treated the way I was treated as a customer. This man why do is that head of Thumbtack's customer service. He's a supervisor for the customer service department and he has the worst customer service I've ever seen add all the companies that deal with in my life.

This was shocking, as at no point during the sign-up process was I made aware of any advertising fees. My understanding was that I would only be charged upon accepting a lead for a job. However, according to Kyle, Thumbtack automatically charges users for merely being shown to potential clients—whether or not those leads result in work.

Despite not receiving a single valid lead, not starting any contracts, and not utilizing Thumbtack's services in any meaningful way, they refused to refund my money. When I mentioned filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Kyle showed complete indifference. In fact, he stated that he no longer wished to communicate with me and that all further correspondence would be handled by their so-called "refund department"—a department with no listed phone number or direct contact information and he made sure to let me know that I had already been denied for refund but that I could still talk to the refund team if I wanted to even though they've already denied my claim.

A Sham Refund Process and Continued Deception. When I attempted to call Thumbtack’s customer service line again, the first automated message I heard was: "If you are calling to dispute a refund, please email our refund task force." This confirmed my suspicion—Thumbtack has a systematic process in place to take customers' money while making it nearly impossible to dispute the charges. Especially since I never even talked to a real person on that line at their customer service line it was an automated message that said if you dispute your refund to got contact the refund department at is so-and-so email address which is another red flag.

Kyle later followed up with another condescending response, offering me a credit on my Thumbtack account instead of returning my money. This was infuriating, as I had no intention of using their service ever again. Offering a credit instead of an actual refund was nothing more than an insult, especially considering I had lost access to funds needed for my essential living expenses. When I made it clear that I would be pursuing legal action if my money was not refunded within 48 hours, Kyle showed no concern. Instead, he passed my case off to their legal department, where the issue has remained unresolved. To this day, I have not received a single penny back.

Thumbtack’s Fraudulent Business Practices. After filing a complaint with the BBB, I began reading other consumer reviews. To my horror, I found countless similar stories—contractors being charged exorbitant fees for leads that were either non-existent or fake. Some users even reported that the "leads" Thumbtack provided were not real people at all.

Final Warning: Do Not Use Thumbtack. Based on my experience, I strongly warn against doing business with Thumbtack. In my 43 years of life, I have never encountered a company that operates so deceptively. Their practices are misleading, predatory, and outright fraudulent. If you value your hard-earned money, do not sign up for Thumbtack. Their claims of connecting professionals with real clients are misleading at best and outright scams at worst. They will take your money under false pretenses, refuse to issue refunds, and leave you with no legitimate way to resolve disputes.

I will continue to pursue all legal avenues to recover my stolen funds, and I encourage others who have been affected by Thumbtack’s fraudulent practices to report them to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and your state’s Attorney General’s office. Let my experience be a cautionary tale—buyer beware!

Our dryer died, he made an appointment, was on time, diagnosed promptly, he made me an invoice after searching for specific parts as opposed to replacing items that aren’t broken. That quality is really appreciated as it is keeping me from paying too much, especially in these times.! I paid for parts and already paid for one hour labor. He’s been professional, neat, clean dress, soft spoken and he’s willing to come to Roanoke, 5 out of 5 stars so far and that’s only because they don’t offer six stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am a contractor specializing in handyman services on Thumbtack. Since joining in October 2023, I've had the pleasure of serving over 792 satisfied clients and maintaining an impressive average rating of 4.8 stars. From the start, I've prioritized delivering top-notch service in the handyman industry. Initially, I invested between $3,000 to $4,000 monthly in high-quality leads, which yielded positive results. However, since August 2024, I've noticed a significant decline in lead quality, alongside an increase in costs. More than 80% of the leads I've received have turned out to be false. Through thorough research, I've been able to confirm that many of these leads come from clients with outdated phone numbers and nonexistent email addresses. It appears that Thumbtack is utilizing damaged client information.

Additionally, the platform now requires clients to click on 3 to 4 vendors for each job, which drives up costs and diminishes potential profits for service providers. This situation ultimately impacts clients as well, forcing professionals to raise their prices while compromising the quality of background checks on those entering your home. As a professional in the field, I strongly encourage you to conduct thorough research before using this platform or hiring anyone through it. Thank you.

Therefore it was leaking. Installed my electric plugs without being in an electrical box. Cut a big hole in my wall that was not needed. Contacted thumbtack about this issue. Terrible Experience for a Security Firm. Our experience with Thumbtack has been nothing short of a nightmare. We are a security firm, and 9 out of 10 leads we received were completely useless—most were from people simply looking for employment, not clients seeking security services. When we brought this to Thumbtack’s attention, we were met with an absurdly difficult refund process. We were required to reach out to the lead, obtain proof that they were seeking employment, and then submit this to Thumbtack. Even after providing clear evidence, such as screenshots, we were told this wasn’t enough. Thumbtack demanded that the lead go back to their platform and explicitly type in the chat that they were looking for a job. This was an unreasonable and nearly impossible requirement to meet.

Thumbtack’s leads are extremely poorly sourced, and they force these leads on you whether they are relevant or not. On top of this, they require an initial $500 payment to get started. Once that was used up, they continued charging our card for terrible leads. This has been the worst experience we’ve ever had with a lead generation service. If you’re a business looking for quality leads, I implore you to avoid Thumbtack at all costs and use Bark instead. Bark’s leads are far superior, and their service is far less frustrating. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of Thumbtack.

Scam. First, they send you leads in areas that you do not live. Then, they charge you for those leads which you NEVER accepted or communicated with. When you ask them for a Refund, they deny it. When you try to email them or call them but they deny the charges and claim that your profile is set up that way. This company is the biggest SCAM.

I've been using this service for 5 years. Lately, it has gotten so bad that I am going to cancel my account. You don't get any leads unless you sign up for direct leads, then those are junk. Customers don't respond, customers are inaccurate with their needs and you sign up for a job that is way bigger than the price was for. I'm getting about 1 in 10 jobs that I pay for leads.

Their way of turning the leads off is very sad, hence just randomly charging you for leads you don't really want. You have to go in once a month and tell the site you're on vacation to avoid the obnoxious leads. As soon as someone chooses you they automatically charge you and won't refund the money even if you don't want the job. I will not use them anymore.

Thumbtack is another online lead-generation service that has consistently delivered subpar results. As a service provider, you have the ability to customize your ideal client profile and turn on the auto lead match tool. Thumbtack charges you for the lead based on their definition of meeting your preferences. For example, I was matched not once but multiple occasions with individuals thousands of miles away even though I set my target geographic area of 100 miles. I requested a refund and per their definition of a match, they would not refund the lead cost even though I did not receive the phone number or have the ability to contact the lead. You’re better off generating your own leads and spending your money on organic content creation. I’ll be canceling this service and copying pasting the reviews that I received over to another review site. Terrible tech company with no ethics, par for the course.

Dana at Thumbtack set me up, and then disappeared and has yet to return my phone calls. Customer Service line goes right to his extension, and it never gets answered. Terrible customer service, emails go unanswered, as a pro, this is by far the worst lead generation company I have ever worked with. They ask for $400 to be in their network and that $400 goes towards leads which is fine, but the lack of leads, lack of lead quality, and lack of customer service (which is the biggest thing for me) makes this a lead generation service I'd recommend NOBODY ever use.

A complete scam. Stole hundreds of dollars from me. Leads are more often than not, fake. The few real leads come because Thumbtack advertises your business on Google keyword searches, at 10x the price that google would have charged you. Scam leads will never be refunded, only 'credited'. Recently, they stopped refunding even the scam ads.
