I had one called American Family for years and I felt I was treated poorly. I compared all home warranty providers and went with Select. Submitting my claim was fine. There was no problem. I liked the technician. He told me he had to get a part and it would be next week. Then he came down and called me and it was fine. He did a good job. The experience was very good. Everything went as advertised. I was satisfied.

Hello, I want to applaud Select Home Warranty for getting my ac to work in less than one day. It was over 100 degrees in Arizona and Select responded quickly. I am happy with the service they provided.
Reviewed July 10, 2014
I contacted Select Home Warranty after having the policy in effect for about 3 months. The AC unit was not running, it was over 90 degrees in the home. We waited until the THIRD day and their contractor called and said they were 'not going to be able to make it over that day'. I contacted Select Home Warranty representative and was told that if we wanted to contact a service contractor in the area that they would reimburse us for the amount of the bill, less the $45 that we had to pay for the service fee. We contacted a reputable HVAC technician in the area and he was able to rearrange his schedule to be at the home the following morning (4th day). He drove to the location, 30 miles from his business address, was at the home for over 2 hours, identified the problem as a bad capacitor. He replaced the capacitor, which had most likely been struck by the lighting and storms going through the NC area the prior week and the unit was up and running. Our family that is in the home has an infant that was struggling with asthma and the heat was making her condition worse.
Select Home Warranty representatives were unaffected by the situation and simply stated that they would 'reimburse our costs because their representative was unable to make the service call within 48 hours'. Now they tell me that their 'labor for a capacitor replacement' is $90.00 This does not begin to cover the technicians time, mileage and efforts to bring the unit back to working condition. This unit is approximately 7 yrs old. Never had problems before, The 'fine print', according to the representative states that they will only pay for 1 hr labor/installation and that I should READ the contract. I did read the contract and it is so verbose that even as a finance manager and owner of several companies, I could not 'read between the lines' of the legalese to extract the exact meaning of their reimbursement clause. I only know what I was told, three times, by their representatives.."If you need to get a contractor to get the job done, since our contractor is not able to make the appointment on the third day, WE WILL reimburse your cost less $45.00 for the service call.

I purchased a two-year home warranty one year ago. I didn't file any claims until 11 days ago. My refrigerator stopped cooling, so I called and filed a claim. The representative that took my claim said someone would get back to me that day or the next day. Three days later still had not heard from anyone. So, I called back. The rep said they couldn't find any contractor in my area to service my refrigerator and that I had to hire my own contractor and pay the $80.00 service call as opposed to the $45 service call that I would pay if SHW found a contractor. So, I called Sears and they arrived the next day.
I was told to email SHW the estimate which totaled $989.00 due to compressor failure and that it would be sent to a review board. I emailed the estimate shortly after the the technician left and called to make sure they received it. The rep told me they got the estimate and that it was under review. I would get a call later that day or the next. I got a call from SHW the next requesting photos of my refrigerator which I emailed that day. It's now been six days and I haven't heard from anyone! They don't return calls, they do not acknowledge emails. I feel like these people have stolen $700 from me! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

We bought a home warranty since all major appliances in our home were at the end of their projected lifespan. Our hot water heater was making a racket and died a few short months after we moved in. We called Select and they had a local plumber out to look at it within a few days. I had to pay the copay of $45. The plumber said our system was old and it "died" and needed replaced. It sure sounded like it was dying, so I believe their diagnosis. The plumber was getting upset with me because he couldn't get in touch with Select Home Warranty. My husband tried too. They were on hold for over an HOUR. Of course the plumber hung up well before the hour mark. He has to make a living.
My husband said, "You bought a scam home warranty." I defended them... I had researched and at the time, they were getting good reviews. Once we FINALLY got to speak with someone, Select Home Warranty said the plumber told them our tank ruptured. I am not a plumber, but I would expect to see lots of water if a hot water tank ruptures. That was entirely not true. I called the plumber and spoke to the owner and he again confirmed that they did not report a ruptured tank to Select. So who was telling the truth? My money is on the plumber. Select Home Warranty's platinum policy clearly states it covers "Water heater". But my friends, the fine print says, "This Agreement covers all modules, components and parts of the water heater system necessary to the functionality of the water heater system." So far so good....
Then it has a disclaimer under that that says: This agreement does NOT cover solar water heating systems or the components thereof. This agreement does NOT cover the following lists of modules, components and parts relating to the water heating system: i) holding tanks; ii) flues; iii) drain piping; iv) pressure reducing valve; v) leaks. My fault for not reading the fine print. I accept that fault. BUT, our tank did not rupture. The supervisor from Select Home Warranty argued with me and said they would "give me 20% of the value ($500) which would amount to $100, but he would send it onto the Review Team, who's usually more than generous."
It's now been 3 months. I haven't received SQUAT. I call weekly and get comments like, "Someone will call you tomorrow," or "I see it's gone on to the Review Team, let me check into that and give you a call back." Just yesterday, I called and they asked if I ever filled out a "Reimbursement Form?" No.... that's the first I've heard of that.... Ok, we'll email that to you right now... No email until this morning. I have the form and it is VERY legal sounding and waives me of all lawsuits... hmmmmmm.

In April, we signed up for the Home warranty policy. We were to pay a $45 co-pay. On June 20th our heat pump would not cool so we called for service. It took almost a week before we had someone come to look at it. The technician said it was a fan motor and he would order a replacement. We are still waiting and the owner has made us submit our proof of normal maintenance which we have sent to him three times. Then he has the nerve to call and say he would pay $125 toward this bill. This is not what our contract says. We pay a $45 co-pay and the company pays the repair bill.
This is a two-bit company and we have been left in 95-degree heat and they keep stalling us. I wouldn't use them to insure a doghouse. We have asked for a total refund of the 3-year premium which we paid upfront. (What idiots we were.) Be very careful you look them over before doing business with them. They are terrible -- they will not honor the contract which they sold. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and will do as much bad advertising as I can to keep anyone else from having this bad experience.

We purchased a 2-year policy in good faith. We read through the terms and conditions (when they sent it - after they had their money) and didn't see any issues we felt we needed to be concerned with. Six weeks into the policy our motor for the a/c (in the central system) started making a terrible racket and smelling like something was burning (June 21, 2014). We followed the rules and shut it off to keep from causing further damage. We called Select's claims department and filed a claim. We were asked how old our home was (no bearing on the age of the unit at all), then asked if it was completely broke down. We said it was not and the representative said they would not cover it if it still worked. We said we could turn it back on and take a chance of burning our house down. He said that he would submit a claim but that they wouldn't be able to contact anyone until the following Monday.
So we went through the rest of the weekend with temperatures in the high 80s. To cut to the chase, after waiting until last Thursday to have someone come and check out the system, we were told yesterday (Monday, June 30) that they needed pictures before the "review board" would make a decision. My wife left work, came home and took pictures, uploaded them to the company and called. For the 4th time, we were asked for the age of the home. Then, because we were unable to produce maintenance records for the past 10 years (we just purchased the home in February 2013 - an estate sale) they said that they reserve the right to only pay $125 toward the repair.
Our home is nice. We know this home has been well maintained (as a certified building inspector verified prior to our purchasing the home). Now, Select Home Warranty is ready to cancel our policy if we wish - but they say that we have to pay a $75 cancellation fee and that the remainder of our contract will be prorated at the higher annual rate (not the rate we were quoted and paid for). They DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS - THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT $$$$. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - STAY CLEAR. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AS THE SAYING GOES. There are companies that are a bit more expensive - but they are reliable. We know this because we did not renew what we had with another company (First American Home Warranty) because their rates had increased but we had to have a stove replaced last year - they bought us a new stove $1,350 and all we had to pay was $60. Reputable places do exist but Select Home Warranty is not one of them.

This company first off refused to cover any repair I've called in. The one they offered to reimburse me on was they offered $150 to replace my dishwasher. Months later, not only have they not reimbursed me anything, they refuse to answer my calls/emails. Further, I renewed this in full via credit card a couple of months ago and they continue to charge me monthly for their "policy." I purchased a Select home warranty plan and my a/c went out on Saturday June 21st at 5:15 p.m. I was told that because I have a six week old infant that I would receive emergency service. I called to check the status of my claim on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. as I had still not received any communication as to who would be out to service my home. I was then advised by a representative that it was probably my freon and that was not covered, and then he told me that it could take up to 24 hours to receive a service call.
I then called again Sunday evening as no call was yet made to me, to be told by their representative that the offices were closed. A technician was not dispatched to my home until Tuesday. The technician stated that the system was low on freon so that may affect the cooling temp, but also that the condenser fan motor was bad. The technician stated that he spoke with the warranty company and they advised that they would not pay. He said he could not help, but he would gladly make the repairs and I would have to pay.
This is a complete breach of contract. After speaking with Select home warranty on the phone they advised that they would not cover the repair if the a/c unit had ever been worked on by anyone else ever. And that I should provide them with photos and receipts of my a/c service history. The point of having a home warranty is for the what if factor in life. They are not living up to their end of the contract, they were happy to take my money to pay for a year of service upfront, just to turn around and not do any repairs that they don't feel like covering.
This is straight from my contract with Select: 6.3.6. Air Conditioning (Central). This Agreement covers the primary floor air conditioning unit of the covered home only, provided that the air conditioning unit does not exceed a five (5) ton capacity. This Agreement covers the following air conditioning components: (i) motors; (ii) compressors; (iii) condensers; and (iv) thermostats.

I signed up with this company over 15 months ago. In the first year never did I requested service for any of my appliances under their warranty. I renewed my contract with them in May. I have to place a service call with them early June due to a leak in my pool pump. I called and they gave me my claim number and I received an e-mail with an acknowledgement that their preferred provider would call me to set-up an appointment. Over 3 days went by no one called so I called their preferred provider L.A. Pools. When I asked when they were coming out they had no clue who Select Home Warranty was - no, that they were a provider to the company.
I called Select Home Warranty back and told them the story and they said that they will have LA Pools call me back. After another 2 days LA Pool did call back and they did go to my home and confirmed that the pool pump had to be changed. Another 2 days go by I get a call from Home Select Warranty telling me they needed pictures of the pump. I sent them 3 pictures to show them that it was leaking. The following day I get a call from one of their employees telling me that since I didn't have any maintenance documents of the pump that as a courtesy they would pay me $150.00 for the repair. I told them that it was unacceptable since I didn't have a clue as to how much the repair would cost. He came back and told it was going to be $940.00 and that was way above what they would pay. I asked him why wouldn't they cover the repair and he continue to over speak to me saying that it was my obligation to have the maintenance documents.
Never was I told when I purchased the service that in order to get things repaired I need the maintenance documents of any of the appliances, pool or the plumbing. The employee told me that he would call me back and he was going to try to see what he could do for me. He called back the following day and as a great solution he said that he could pay me $200.00 vs the $150.00. I told him that was still unacceptable since the repair was much more. I asked to please give me their max which was $480.00 and he said that based not having the records he couldn't. I went back to my policy and it stated maintenance documents or photos. I did provide the photos and I guess it was enough.
I highly advise anyone that wants to sign up because of a lower deductible beware that many times by being cheap you lose out on the long run. This was a lesson learned but please do not buy any warranties with Select Home Warranty. I sent a e-mail as requested by Claims to a Mr. Alex ** and of course no response. Three weeks of going back and forth no solution and it left me choice than to cancel my contract with them.

Actually I donated my premium to them, as they haven't covered any of my 3 claims since I've had them for 1 year. BE SURE TO READ THE NOT COVERED COMPONENTS of your contract before signing and giving them money. They find a way to NOT cover anything. Even if it's not listed in the not covered components, they will find a way to not pay. Most recent incident, today...... I have a faulty sensor on my garage door opener. They indicate it's not covered. Really?!?!? I read the contract and it should be, but true to form - they aren't covering it. I have three of my houses under Select Warranty, and it seems like kind of a hit-or-miss, depending on who gets called as far as taking the call for a claim or a service that needs to be done. Sometimes I get somebody who's very easy to work with or somebody who's not. When I put in claims, it seems like there's a lot of information that's asked for to be able to qualify for a claim when it's not really specified in the contract. So I haven't really been too happy with the service. Unfortunately, I have paid through I think a couple of years on all three homes. Go to the BBB website before believing any other site's claims. Air conditioner unit is malfunctioning. Similar issued occurred last year and service was provided by Select Home Warranty.
Lie # 1 - Company claims that since we do not have any maintenance records beyond the time with their company that we are in violation of their contract (maintenance was done personally and nowhere in the contract does it state it has to be done by a contractor). Lie # 2 - the "manager" tried to convince us that we had an outdated contract and finally after much argument agreed that our contract was current. Lie # 3 - they are requiring that a certified HVAC professional has to look at the unit and stated the cost was $280 and they would only cover $120 (no explanation was given as to how they came up with that number as the contract states they cover up to $250 when claim is denied).
When we contacted the HVAC company, they informed us that the cost would be $330. Blatant misrepresentation of facts. Please consumers, do your homework and stay away from this company or you may be the next person who gets taken advantage of! How anybody had a positive experience with this company is beyond my comprehension!

I learned about Select Home Warranty through a Google search I made after my previous company suddenly dropped me without notice. I chose them based off of the reviews and what they were quoting. I got a five-year platinum or whatever the highest was with an additional 2 air conditioning units, additional heater, and additional pool and spa.
Submitting a claim was a little difficult because I had to do it after hours. The website was not responding to an error with their website. I was having an issue with my pool pump. When I called in, there was unfortunately only one person who did not have access to my information and couldn't answer my questions. He was very nice and was very apologetic. The thing I liked best was he was very upfront with his limitations due to the time that I have called. He basically took a message for the next morning, but they got it. The person that came up was not able to make the repair at the time, let me know it was no big deal, came back fairly within two or three days, made the repair and it's worked perfectly ever since. I'm happy with what they did.
So far, it's been really good. The only thing they need is overnight support. I felt really bad for the technician who had to answer the calls because I understood what his limitations were and I don't think that the company should have put him in that place. That's my experience from being in technical support, over the phone for years. Other than that, everybody I have dealt with has been very kind, very customer service oriented and very nice. So overall, the experience with the individuals has been fantastic. I just wish the technology would catch up with their customer service.

So after a few days, I just called myself some company that they referred me to. This company said they never received anything from Select Home Warranty.
I called again Select Home Warranty and they apologized and someone called me pretty quickly in a few hours. The technician came, did his job, called in to someone on the spot to get authorization because he didn't have it before. He described the problem and fixed it. And I paid him my deductible and he left. The work done was perfect. Everything is fine but I would expect that if someone tells me someone will contact me, it will be true and someone will contact me. Otherwise it was a good experience.

I had to wait at least two or three weeks before the repair was done, which is a little bit unnerving sometimes. I would really appreciate it if things get done faster because we have a lot of inconvenience when things broke down for a long, long time. Submitting the claim was okay but it took quite a while for them to get a service provider to me. Also, the technician that came was pretty skeptical of the company and had worked with them before. He was frustrated because instead of being able to order the parts for a dishwasher himself and just getting it done, they insisted on ordering it and shipping it to my house. Then I had to call the technician and let him know that the parts arrived and then he was another week out so it wasn't a simple process.
When the parts came, one of the parts was missing and rather than go through the whole rigmarole again, my husband and I just went online and ordered the part. It was a cheap part, otherwise I wouldn't have done it but it was about $11 out of another $11 out of pocket for the parts that should have arrived to begin with. The part was ordered because it was confirmed but it wasn't on the parts list or on back order. I was just to the point of "we're just gonna do it and get it done."
The final result was fine. And like I said, it took the technician a while to get back to us again. But he should have been able to just order the parts through his own network and get it done rather than wait for the company to order and deliver them to us and then reschedule him to come back again on our own. It was just lengthy.

DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR BUSINESS!!!!!! They do not honor their contracts nor they have respect for their customers. We did a claim for our dryer. We paid the guy $45.00 to look at it And never heard from Select Home Warranty. We called them and we were on hold forever and still didn't get it resolve. We just took the loss. Our air condition wasn't working so we filed a claim about this. The first thing the c/s said, "If it's a Freon leak, we don't cover that. Do you still want someone to come out?" Well, what do you know? They came out and for some strange reason, it was a Freon leak!!! Another 45.00 dollars gone down the drain. Not to mention nothing got fixed. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone!!!!!!!

I was a customer of American Home Warranty. It got a little expensive so I switched last summer to Select Home Warranty. I knew it was a mistake at the time I did it! I fired Select Home Warranty last month. I have waited a month to allow my emotions to calm down. They have. However, I would warn anyone of buyer beware with this company. Have your lawyer read the fine print. If you don't have a lawyer do not do business with this company is my advice.
Situation: My heater in my family room was not working. Called Select Home Warranty in Jan 2014. After three weeks of waiting for someone to call me I called them again. They sent a very nice gentlemen out to the house within 24 hours. It was the motor on the heater. The service man cautioned me that they would only pay 10% of the cost and had another customer have major issues with SHW. I thought that won't be me. Well it was. When all said and done the cost was well over $1000 and they offered to pay $120.00. I canceled the contract in April 2014 and had to call again and again to get my refund for the remaining balance. I strongly recommend that this company not have a good standing. I have to believe I am not the only angry customer. To the vendors, you are tarnishing your name being associated with this company.

I had hesitations initially just because I've never heard of them and I was a little skeptical. The bigger name ones are the ones you're told to use, and I found Select on my own. But I'm very happy. You can tell it's a smaller scale operation so that's good. We ended up with a three-year contract. Submitting a claim with them is good. I could always get hold of someone and it usually gets the attention it needs regardless of which way it happens. They've executed all different ways of processing a claim. I called Select Home Warranty to report it the same day it happened. It took them 27 minutes to answer the phone and then after taking my information, I was told that a supervisor would be getting back in touch with me. That never happened. I called them back the next day and was told that they would not be able to repair my oven because in the contract, it states warranty coverage will begin 30 days after receipt of all outstanding payments (They Got My Money on 3/11/14). This is my third home warranty company that I have used and the first one to have this sort of restriction in their contract so they got me. Would have been nice of their representative to mention that little tidbit of very important information. Long story short, they will leave information out when trying to sell you their product. I have never been this unsatisfied with a company before and this is the first time I have ever felt the need to let people know that they make their company sound so good until you have issues go wrong. When we spoke to Adam ** the first time he was very polite while trying to sell us and informing us everything was covered from appliances to heating and air. When we had an issue Adam was EXTREMELY rude. The first time we needed to use our warranty, our hot water tank burst, they sent a repairman right out. When he got here, they wouldn't take his word for it and wanted pictures to review the claim. We never heard back from them and had to replace the hot water tank ourselves.
When our dryer went out, of course, it wasn't covered either. The second time our dryer went out, we called to see if the heating element would be covered and they said it was humanly impossible to answer that question. They said they scheduled a repairman to come out and sent an email with the repairman's name and number. After no one showed up, we contacted the repairman and they had no record of the claim from Select Home Warranty. Again we fixed it ourselves. I had this policy about 11 months when our washer failed. Select sent a repair co. out and the estimate to repair was more than to replace. I called the claims dept and was told by Sam to go out and purchase a new washer. I told him I was uncomfortable doing that without a dollar amount or a purchase order or something that would give me some idea of the reimbursement amount. He said just go buy another one and send in the receipt. I was impressed, I should have known better. Since we had a Whirlpool Duet front loading unit that is what we bought. In this company's advertising they describe situations where an appliance could cost a loss of anywhere from $500 to $1300. The impression is that they will step in and prevent the loss. What they don't tell you is that there is a $500.00 cap in the back of the policy.
So I sent in the receipt and they offered me $150.00 which was unacceptable to say the least since my receipt was for $995.00 plus tax and $200.00 for the pedestal plus tax. They then called and said they were excited that they had good news and offered me $350.00. They then informed me that the appliance cap for any claim was $500.00. I prepaid the premium for three years. These people are deceptive to say the least. Save yourself the aggravation and buy from some other company like American Home Shield!

My policy with Select Home Warranty went active mid-December. I got one because a friend of mine suggested I do it and explained to me about the one he has, so that’s what I got. So far I’ve had one claim -- a fairly simple process. They put me in touch with a local contractor. They came out, they repaired it, but they didn’t repair it properly all the way. I called them again, they sent him back out... I didn’t have to pay an additional charge.
I’m satisfied with the way the business is conducted. However, I wish they’d be more clear on what they do and don’t cover in their advertisement. The contract I received, maybe 15-20 pages long, you got to really dig in to see what is and isn’t covered. They cover the septic tank but they don’t cover the sump pump. You got to get a separate one for that. You’d think they’d be all included, but it’s not. Either something comes up or you just get a chance to really read into the contract.

I used to have AHS and I am going back. Here's the issues. (across 2 properties)
1) first call that I made against the policy was (irrigation) system was declined because they said it wasn't covered. So I called again and quoted them off the contract that it was. After that they sent a service person.
2) Also on the first call, they were reluctant to cover because they claimed they weren't in possession of the signed agreement even though I paid them in full. Once I told them I could find their confirmation, they were willing to discuss.
3) Service fee - this is a scam. I had a broken fan and they wouldn't send a technician to repair or replace, unless I purchased the fan using a partial reimbursement, and they made me sign a release. So on top of that i would have to pay a service fee, and some money for the fan. I had 15 calls and over 10 emails trying to get them to resolve. Some of their responses said that a company was dispatched, when later neither the company wouldn't return my call and no one went out to fix it. I was ready to continue escalation to an attorney, but my credit card company is working out a refund. MY SUGGESTION IS TO AVOID THEM .
4) Repair of built in appliance - They jerked me around for months and wouldn't send someone to fix. They refused to send a company even though earlier emails said that they have or will dispatch. Ultimately they offered to buy me off for 150.00 which would barely cover the partial cost of repair. Eventually I realized that NO ONE there is accountable and it appeared like salespeople were answering the repair calls and that their mission was to avoid covering the claim. Worse than that, when I would call they treat you like you are doing something wrong.

So I went online and said, “Well let me just see if I could find a reputable company” because I know some of them out there aren't that reputable. I started reading the reviews about what people said about Select. So I went to all different review sites and this one seemed to be the best. It had the least amount of negative reviews that's why I picked them. So far, so good. I had a dishwasher problem and I called them up. They sent a guy. He came right away and fixed the problem. Had I not had the warranty the problem would've cost me $200 and it cost me $45 for the guy to show up. I'm absolutely satisfied.

The company that we had was Home Warranty of America but we wanted to add some rental properties in New Jersey and the only company that did that was Select Home Warranty. We had one claim for one of the tenants, and he had a clog in the drain. The service was great! I have recommended Select already.

We were facing some health issues in the later years and we thought it would be a good idea since we're not able to do things for ourselves as much as we used to do, to have the security of that protection. We talked to several different ones and we liked what they had to offer better, price-wise.
The water heater wasn't staying red and they had a couple of guys out within a reasonable amount of time. They first said that they weren't going to cover the call but after they found out that there was more things wrong with what was first reported, they did go ahead and cover. They first said that there was just a screen on the bottom of the water here and that was the home owner's responsibility. My husband's worked with appliances all his life and he didn't know that there was a screen under there that needed cleaning. He'd be unable to clean it even if there has been one. We would've known about it. So I guess they kind of bought it a little bit that we gotten to go ahead. We're still a little bit doubtful about Select. We're not a hundred percent convinced that they're going to do all they say they're going to but we're going to give them a chance.

I already had home warranty. It’s just a matter of whether I wanted to stay with the company that I was with or going to some other company. I decided to go with Select Home Warranty because I could see, going online, it seemed to have good response from people. So I figured if other people have been satisfied with it, hopefully then I too will be satisfied with them. And I already had an issue that they responded to very well and that worked out very nicely.
I was having a group of people over, Thanksgiving was a day or so away and I was concerned that I was going to have a problem with my family room. And when you have kids, you don’t want them to be in the living room with everybody else. My family room had the big TV and I knew that would entertain them. I called them up, they assigned somebody, somebody called me, made an appointment, came, and took care of the problem. I’m very pleased with them.

I like what they had to offer. The price was better. It was lower cost than I had been paying previously and they covered everything I needed to have covered, so I went with them. I have submitted one claim with them. It went well. They came and they were very professional. They did what they had to do and got the problem taken care of.

My buddy has Select Home Warranty. He was cancelled with another company and he picked it up. I asked him, “How do you think of it?” and he said “It's pretty good” so I called up the gentleman and I took it up too. I had Sears Home Appliances and it seems like they weren't on the league for it, and it seems like I got a 5 year for a better deal. Financially, I think it came out ahead for me because they only gave me 3 years for $475 for just a few of my appliances. They're still calling me about it.
I'd recommend Select Home Warranty. I had a pipe at one of my washing machines that was backing up on me. They sent out a man out in 2 days from the day I called them. When he came out and fixed that washing machine, he later told me that's not covered under my contract. I said, “Wait a minute. I thought all my pipes under my house was covered under my contract?” He said, “No, we did this out of courtesy.” So that's something I'm looking into right away but it's been well and everything's working. I don't have to sit and worry about anything with the house for the next 5 years.

We've been with Select Home Warranty for six months. My experience with them is not very good. I had to file a claim a couple of weeks ago and I wasn't satisfied with the people that they sent me. I had some issues with my toilet and they came out and told me that it was old. And they also trekked in mud and stuff. Also, I had a faucet that wasn't covered under the warranty but they were supposed to try and fix it. They refused to look at it.

First, I got a call from American Home Shield. Then when I called Select, they gave me the same rate with cheaper call pay. That's the best part because the other one is asking for 75 and they're only asking for 45 so that's a big difference. So I decided to go with them. The service is really good. The moment I emailed for some repairs, they immediately sent me whoever is available.

I was looking up home warranties on the internet. We're in Florida and it's our first house. I know the climate down here is more humid and close to the beach - it's a little bit warm. We just moved our home so we wanted something that if something happened at the house if I was gone, my wife could call and get something repaired without me being here and not costing like thousands of dollars for something simple. I started calling around. Select Home Warranty had the best deal basically and the best kind of coverage so I chose them. I got the basic one that covers the basic things. I've used Select twice and had absolutely no complaints whatsoever. They're very clear when I talk to them. The second time I used them was for the dishwasher and they offered me options of whether I wanted to repair the pump or use the money for the pump to put into a new dishwasher. I've recommended them.

My experience with Select was good. The only problem I really had with them is I got the impression from talking to them on the phone that they tried to do whatever they can to wiggle out of paying claims because when I called them, the guy really quizzed me when I told them I had this problem with my clothes washer. “What kind of maintenance have you been doing on it? You’re going to have to prove that you had maintenance done on it and show receipts and that the unit has been maintained for us to cover any kind of repairs on it.” I did wind up getting the thing satisfactorily fixed and the company that the guy sent me did a good job with it, so I can’t complain about them either.
I actually bought as a gift for my girlfriend a home warranty on her house for her, and she has used them, they had two issues. She had the same issue when she called. They were giving her a hard time about it. I don’t like the way they handle things when you talk to them about filing a claim. They just leave a bad taste in your mouth. I would not recommend Select Home Warranty to a friend. But on the same hand, I wouldn’t tell a friend not to either.
