Installation went very smoothly. The installers did it in one day, which I didn't think they could, but they did. They were very careful too. I was there to watch what they were doing and they left everything perfect with instructions on how to clean the walk-in shower. I used shower and I liked it very much. However, I didn't get a chance to use the seat yet. A week after I had the walk-in shower put in, I fell in the bathroom, but it had nothing to do with the shower. Besides that, I used the handheld and the rain head, and I was very happy with everything. Overall, I would recommend Safe Step as being very neat, efficient, and on time.
We're sorry to hear about your fall, but we're glad to know it wasn't related to the shower. It's fantastic that you're enjoying the features, including the handheld and rain head. Your recommendation means a lot, and if you ever have further questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out. We're here to ensure your continued satisfaction with your Safe Step product!

I had a good rapport with the people who worked at Safe Step. The guys that installed the shower were very good. But the follow-up was not good. There were a couple of issues that I couldn't get ahold of anybody to get them resolved, so I had to do it myself. They forgot to put the setscrew in. So when I turned the water on, everything fell apart. I had to get that and put that in. There were so many restrictors in the shower wand that there was not enough water pressure to rinse the soap out of the hair. So I bought a new shower wand and put it on and everything was fine. I called Safe Step and left messages, but they were never returned.
Edith, thank you for sharing your experience with Safe Step. We're glad to hear that you had a positive rapport with the installation team. I contacted Safe Step and a salesman came to the house. One thing led to another, I paid a down payment and then things weren't working. I tried to cancel it but they said I would have to forfeit my money. When the bill came for the payments, it was ridiculous. It was nothing I had heard of during the discussion. I knew he was charging me so much a month. But the months turned into years, like it’d be in 2038 for it to be paid off with the situation they set up. They wanted their money, but nothing was ever sent to me to tell me where and how to send it. Then I got a letter threatening a lawyer, so I took it on myself to get it straightened out, and I called the factory up in Nashville. They gave me a couple of numbers and I finally got to a lady who was very sympathetic and set up a payment thing.
One time, they referred me to Mexico and a lady said, “Well, just give me your debit card number and I'll make a payment for you.” But I told her no. One thing led to another and now it's set up. They sent me a payment look but I've never seen it. I called yesterday and they checked and said, “Well, you should get it in the next couple of weeks. Don't worry about it. And maybe three weeks. Don't worry about it.” But it was quite a bit more. $2,000 down and got it to where it would work. They charged me $12,000 extra for labor to get the shower put in. It was only one man. It took him about four days. I was stunned. But my wife likes the shower.
The shower is a good looking thing. The only flaw is that he put the shelf on the wrong end. The bench is on the one hand, and the shelf to put the shampoo on is on the other end. My wife can't reach it. She's gotta get up and get it, so I bought a plastic thing and glued it in to where she could sit and reach it. That's the only change that was made, and it works all right. The installer did a good job, but it's wiped out by the story of the cost.
Hi Richard, thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear that you had a positive installation experience and that your wife likes her new walk-in shower. Safe Step's rep was polite and to-the-point. That's what I liked. Also, the installers had it clean as a pen. It was well done. I was very pleased with it. The tub has plenty of room in it. It's easier for my wife to get in and out.

The sales rep from Safe Step was okay. I didn't have a problem with him. I had a problem with the installation. They, to this day, have not corrected all the issues that I am having. I told them right after the installment happened what was happening, and they kept telling me they'd get back to me or they'd send somebody out. This has been going on for three months and they still have not corrected the problem.
They say that the bottom of the shower is level, but I don't see how that is possible because I'm having problems with my shower curtain. One end looks like it's sitting lower on the floor than the other end. Water is sitting up on the side of the shower, the bottom of the shower walls, and it's running on my floor. I can't keep my shower curtain in there. There is a huge soft spot right in front of the drain that goes from one side to the other side.
When the installer put that in there and I stepped in there, he had a piece of cardboard in there. I was like, “Oh, maybe that's so we don't get it dirty.” So, when I stepped in there, I said, “Why is that soft like that?” He said, “Oh, that's just the cardboard.” Lo and behold, it takes 24 hours for the curing process. I waited four days before ever using that shower. When I did use the shower, that soft spot was still there. I saw it when they put it in. It's like you have hollow holes with nothing underneath the shower pan.
I'm trying to get them to take care of that. Now that the water is sitting up on the side of the shower wall, it's going to destroy the caulking and then it's gonna end up kind of destroying my wall. I spoke to like 10 different people, and they kept telling me, “Well, we'll get back with you. And let me find out about this. Let me find out about that.” Last week when I called there, the gentleman said, “Well, let me get with somebody. If I don't call you back this week, I will call you this week,” which was this week. Here it is today, Friday, and I tried to call them. They're monitoring my calls. When they see my name come up on the caller ID, it's like they're not answering their phone to me.
I called him today, and I knew he wouldn't answer. I left a message. He still has not called me back yet. This has been going on since the 3rd of October. I've even told them I was gonna contact ConsumerAffairs, and they were acting like they couldn't care less. I've even mentioned contacting an attorney to them, and it’s like they're still throwing me to the wayside. We've already made two payments just for them and the company that they do their financing through by the time they get finished. My husband had thought about calling the finance company as well because they charged us almost $12,000 to do the installation. By the time they went through their finance company, the total cost of this no-good stuff that they did was 24,000 something dollars.
We have another walk-in shower in our other bathroom. My husband did that himself years ago, and there are no problems. The only reason he hired somebody was because of his medical condition at this time, he was not able to do this himself. He said, “I don't see $12,000 in this.” I have osteoporosis. I have to put the chair up after I finish with it, and the chair doesn't even wanna stay up. Every time you fold it up, it flops back down. I called Safe Step again today. I still could not get any progress with them. It seems like we're gonna have to contact an attorney. They got us for like $24,000.

I need one thing with Safe Step. The thing about my shower is I couldn't walk anymore, and in order for me to wash myself, the soap is at the end of the shower and I couldn't get up to walk over to get the soap to wash myself. It's not accessible to me. So, my husband has to do it for me. But the installers did awesome.

I talked to the Safe Step's rep. When he said he could get it financed with me being on a fixed income, I said, “If you can do it, I'll do it.” And that's what happened. We got a shower put in. We’ve used it four times since then, which isn't many, because we have been waiting for our installer to come here and fix a leak since he hasn't called me back. He said, “How about such and such a date?” I was going to the hospital at that time, so I told him, “I can't do it then. I'll be in the hospital. But I'm not in a big hurry at the moment because of the hospital. Give me a call back here in the next few days.” That has been two weeks. I didn't get ahold of him.
I tried to get ahold of him, sent him a text, told him I was back home and available. I was getting ready to go in and have eye surgery next Tuesday. So, it was hard trying to work him in here now because I would have some more things going on at the hospital. But it's tough getting him out here. I know where the leak is coming from. I was just gonna tell him to put a little goop on it, but that's not my job for an $11,000 shower.
I prefer a shower over a bathtub any time. And it's a beautiful shower. But it doesn't look like it's worth $11,000 to me. I checked on canceling it, but Safe Step told me I only had three days that at one time, because I found somebody that would do approximately the same thing between $3,000 and $4,000. It would take them a week to do it, not a day, but that part didn't bother me. I have three bathrooms in my house, so I could have taken a bath or a shower in any of them. All the pros and cons about the cost for what you get is a bit high. If I could get it done cheaper someplace else, I'd rather do it. But it's a good piece of equipment. If you've got the money to spend, go ahead and do it.
Hi Roger, thank you for sharing your experience with Safe Step. We're pleased to hear that our representative could arrange financing to make the installation possible for you.
However, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you've faced with the leak issue and the delay in the installer's response. I put in a lead request and Safe Step's sales rep called me back. Then, he came out to the house and went over stuff and gave us a quote. He seemed to know what he was doing and was professional. For the installation, two guys came out and they did a great job. It took them about six hours and we've had no problems. They did everything right and we haven't had to call them back for anything.
The walk-in shower gives us a lot more space and it's easier to deal with. It's totally flat and it's almost floor level, but it's got a little soft rubber-type bump that keeps the water in the shower. There's no step down when we get out of it and I don't have to step up over a ledge or anything like that. It's really good. The price was a little high, but sometimes you have to pay to get what you want.
We appreciate your review, Tom! We're delighted to learn that you enjoyed your experience from start to finish, and we sincerely hope that your new Safe Step Walk-In Shower brings you joy for many years to come. Thanks once again!

I like the shower. We can walk in the shower rather than climb over the side of a tub. It's easier to get in and out of the tub. However, Safe Step's customer service sucks. They left trash around and drywall screws in my driveway. Good thing I've seen them before I ran over and picked them up in a tire. They left scraps of lumber and styrofoam. Underneath the house, they had to cut out for the drain. Sawdust fell on the floor and that's where it stayed. There was a vacuum cleaner sitting right there. They never vacuumed that up. They left without finishing caulking. They had to do some hammer work to get things to fit and they knocked the plaster off the inside of the closet.
I have contacted the rep, Mike, several times and voiced my displeasure with not getting any calls back on when they were gonna finish the caulking, but he has not got any results there. The price was a little high. He had asked me if I would write a check and just deposit that money to where the check would clear, which I did. I had called him and voiced my displeasure with the trash they left laying around and the dirty job site, and first thing in the morning, that check was slammed into my account. But I can't get anybody to call me back to get them to come back here and finish the job. Another thing I am disappointed in was the little corner shelves. You can't even put a big shampoo on them. We ordered two extras and had them put three on my wife's side and one on my side. They installed it up so high that you can't put the shampoo bottle on the top.

We live in a very rural area and had called other providers. We would get a response that they do not service our area. But Safe Step made the trip. Our knees don't hurt when we try to get in there. We also have a bench installed in it.

The walk-in shower didn't get here on time. Safe Step had to push it back three times before they could get it out here. The salesman didn't measure correctly so when they came out to install it, the install guys said it was too small. The salesman need to learn how to take measurements. The install gentleman came out and he remeasured. Everything got correct that way. They were supposed to install it but they called back and said that they had double-booked us with somebody else, so they had to move it again another time.
We also had communication issues with the salesman. We didn't get a lot of what he was saying because the shower didn't come out the way we thought it was going to be. It’s a Safe Step shower, but it came slippery. My parents couldn't stand in it so we had to call them again. They had to come back out and put a non-slip coating on the shower floor. We had them out the other day because they were getting water out from underneath the door of the shower. That was taken care of, but it wasn't a quick and smooth experience we had hoped for. Everybody was very nice though. They called and texted whenever they needed to. They answered questions and if they couldn't, they found someone who could. All in all, it's a beautiful shower. $14,000 is a lot of money for a shower but my parents have more space and it's easier for them to step into ‘cause it's lower to the ground than the one they had.

The sales rep was a nice lady and explained everything to us. She didn't try to push anything that we didn't want and just talked to us about the Safe Step walk-in shower. I liked her, the way she explained that. The four installers were here at 10:00 and left at 6:00. So, they did a good job. I can get in and out of the walk-in shower. There's a seat tub to sit down on if you want to while you're washing your hair and you can pull the shower thing down there and closer to you. I'm satisfied with it.

Before I even put my money down, I told them I needed the stuff set up for somebody little. They should have asked me first before they installed a certain few things. I’m only 4’10” and they put the showerhead way up where I can't even reach it. I have to stand on my toes and try to get it down a little. I have to get my husband to take down the showerhead. The hook that they put it on should have been another 4 or 5 inches lower. Even the back shower thing is too high and should be lower by a foot.
I'm very disappointed that they saw how little I was and I said something to them when they came in and they just went about and did what they're used to do and didn't even assume what I needed. I paid $11,000 for something I'm not happy with. Also, they brought the tub out and they put the tub on the porch. I asked them if they would put it down in the yard but they left it on the porch. But the guys were nice and polite and they did their job.

The sales rep of Safe Step was great. She helped us to get it financed. When the installation people got here on October 25th, they took the bathtub out. They put everything in. They said to not use it for a couple of days 'cause the caulking was settling in. It looked okay. However, it was missing some caulking in little places. I tried to put my mom in, but I had to turn off the shower because it was not going down. It was going down slowly, but it was filling up too fast. The guy that came to check on it said that maybe under the end part is not set right for it to drain. But he told me he was gonna have to call the rep back and tell her that she needed to send somebody out to look to see what they did on the drain. 'Cause he thinks it's part of the drain part that is not set right that's why it's not going down. At first, my mom loved it. When it didn't want to drain, she said she didn't like it anymore because I still had to bring her to the other side to take a shower.

The Safe Step rep's tone of voice and way of acting could be improved. He was demanding at some point. But the installation went very well. The gentlemen installing it could have done a better job of cleaning up but they were very polite and helpful. I like the shower. It's more for my husband's convenience and he enjoys it. It's a big progress.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Roseann. It's wonderful to hear that you had a positive experience with our installation team! The sales representative provided great information and the installation team was very pleasant. They did a thorough job. They were a little late then had to go back out. They didn't bring the drop cloth and had to go to the store to buy drop cloth. Other than that, it was okay. They were there for about six hours after they came back. They had to come back because they said our shower was a special case. It's a lot larger than most. They had given us a heads-up that it would be a two-day project. My father likes the space that he has. Their previous one had the built-in little seats in the acrylic and they were small and low. But with the Safe Step shower, it's wide open and barrier-free. I like the grab bars for my mother.
Vanessa, we greatly appreciate you sharing your experience with us. It's rewarding to learn that your encounter with our team during the sales and installation process was positive. Our team is dedicated to providing informative, courteous, and efficient service to ensure the best possible customer experience. Your satisfaction and the enhanced safety, independence, and comfort brought by the Safe Step Walk-In Shower truly delight us. Here's to many years of continued enjoyment!

The installation team was quick and cleaned up their mess. However, Safe Step could have offered me more discounts. Also, it took five weeks when they told us two days. We live in Rawlins, Wyoming and we're way off the beaten path. One of the pieces was broken and the other piece was the wrong piece. They didn't have all the materials, and they just put us on the back burner. They didn't call us for weeks at a time to let us know any update on when they were gonna be here. Then all of a sudden they called and said they were gonna be here. I would not recommend them.
Bonnie, thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the challenges you faced, including the delay in the installation timeline and the issues with broken and incorrect pieces. This does not align with our commitment to providing a seamless experience for our customers, and we understand the frustration it must have caused.
Your concerns about communication lapses and being kept in the dark are duly noted. We are actively reviewing our internal processes to ensure better communication and customer updates moving forward.
Regarding the discounts, we regret if our offerings did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide competitive and fair pricing, and your feedback will be taken into consideration for future improvements.
We appreciate your candor, and your experience is crucial in helping us enhance our services. If there are specific details you would like to discuss further or if there's anything we can do to address your concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at service@safesteptub.com.

The sales rep with Safe Step was a nice man. He gave me some discounts and let me get it at a certain rate. He didn't take forever telling me about what they were gonna do and how they were gonna do it. He explained that, but he wasn't long-winded about it. The warranty is good too. The installation team came in the afternoon and were in here a good while. They were gluing and fixing pipes and adding the handles. My closet and my bathroom are probably about the same size, and they got everything done. They told me to make sure to not get in it for 24 hours, which I did. It was lovely once I got in. I'd never had a rainfall showerhead before. It's very relaxing. It's wonderful to take a shower.

I called the main office in Nashville and Safe Step sounded good. The presentation was nice. It sounded like a good product. I got the combo and I was on it one time and used the hose and I've got some problems with it. I thought I'd be able to take the power hose back to the back of the seat, which I can do, but there's no place to put it to leave it there. The only thing you can do is put it on the floor. There is no place to hook it. That really pissed me off. I'm planning on calling the man that sold it to me to talk about it. But I was very pleased with the first people with him and the people who put it in. They did a good job.
I'm crazy about the L-shaped bar that takes you to the front of the shower. But the problem with me is when I got in it and got to use that bar to walk to the front of the tub, it's a little too big and round. It can't hold a dry or wet rag. It'll fall off and hit the floor. I'm short and when I get up to where the shelves are and the controls, I could just reach the bottom shelf and the second shelf to put things on, and just reach the controls to turn it on. If it had been a smidge higher, it would have been of no use to me.
Another thing was that the rep told me I was gonna have a steering wheel on the front where you turn the controls and to hold on to an extra thing. But I didn't get that. Also, it is easy step to get in, but it is slippery. I was under the impression, from what the rep told me, that it wasn't gonna be slippery. But overall, the quality of the shower is good. It looks good and I love that. I'm tickle pink with the seat in the back of the tub that you pull down. It's great.

I would recommend Safe Step. They're very good people. They're not pushy. They didn't offer towel bars and I had the tub with the shower in there. I was losing three towel bars. The sales rep offered to pay for the two towel bars for me. That's a good salesman. I feel so safe with Safe Step. It has a good floor. There's nothing like it. It's fabulous.

We're very happy with Safe Step. The salesman told us what our options were. We were debating between the Classic and the higher model, and we were able to switch the hold bars from the higher model to the lower model. We ended up getting the lower model, and when it was done, I wanted a grab bar on the entrance to the shower on one side. They said it was not a problem. I just had to pay for the grab bar, and they came out and put it in. I like their ability to switch things around
There was one little problem during the installation. We got a washer and dryer in the closet next to the tub. The tub doesn't go up close against the wall. Whoever installed the dryer vent had the vent go behind the tub. They said that was a showstopper. They couldn't do that work. They have an agreement with Safe Step that they do only work directly related to the tub work. I had to go find my own carpenter to have the dryer vent underneath the floor where the shower floor was gonna go. It delayed it about a week. But even with the little snafu we had there, I would recommend Safe Step.

The salesman did a good job selling Safe Step to us. The fellow was friendly and he knew his stuff pretty well. The presentation took an hour. The installers were nice enough and it took them two days to do the job. Partway through the day, one of the workers got sick and the other guy had to take him home so they had to come back the next day. We had some safety bars put in at our request. We told them where we wanted them. It looks lousy. The shower has a marbled appearance. The color's very good but in one of the corners, it’s pure white. We asked Safe Step to replace it and they said they would. It's been about a month now and they don't seem to be interested in replacing it.
Also, the installers left the bathroom a mess. There was a quarter of an inch of dust from them working on the cement on the bottom and cutting the tub up that they took out. There were little gobs of caulking on the floor as well as out in my garage where they worked. That was a mess too. They said that they were gonna come back, but they didn't. I called the salesman and left a message on his phone to tell him I was dissatisfied with the job. I have not heard anything from him. Safe Step has a project manager and we talked with them a couple of times. I have a mongrel-looking shower installed and dust and dirt all over the place. Their response is a zero. They're terrible.

I had their rep come by and he did not explain the process good enough to suit me because I misunderstood the price. I thought he had said counting all the discounts that I had, plus my good credit, that we’d get a certain amount of money off. I called him and told him I was very upset. He called me back and said he explained those. He did a lot of really fast talking. Also, when he gave me the papers, I just folded them. It was my fault that I didn't read the papers and I accept that.
The one thing that I didn't like about Safe Step is they had their own finance company called GreenSky. I wanted to go through my own bank but the rep said, no. He also said that if I was gonna make the deal, I had to do it that day because he wasn't coming that far back down here to talk to me again about it. I went through GreenSky because that's what he told me I had to do and I ended up paying $10,713. He said that I could stretch it out and I wouldn't have to pay payments but like $157 a month. But then when I got to looking at it, I was gonna pay a heck of a lot more than $10,000 back.
Other than those, the men who came and worked on my shower were very efficient, polite, and professional. They did it in one day and they cleaned up their mess. The shower is very efficient for what my needs are. It's very low down to the floor and I can step over. I'm more than well satisfied with it. I would recommend Safe Step to my friends. I know that they’re a very good and reputable company and I believe that. That's why I went with them. But I would recommend them with the understanding that it's a very expensive way to get a shower put in.

I had a good experience with Safe Step Walk-In Showers. They did a good job. The rep was courteous. He sat down, petted my dog. I only had one problem after I got to use the shower. I like using it but I needed another handrail to where one would get in so I could hold on to it to keep from falling when I'm getting in and out of it. So, I called Safe Step and they said, "Well, VA only approved for two handrails," but they said that they would see what they could do. I got a call and the guy set up an appointment to come this morning. He got here at 8:30, put it in at no cost to me. I got a hold of it and stepped in my shower, turned around and got a hold of it, stepped out of my shower. It worked good. I called Safe Step and gave them their $34 that I owed them. 3,400.

So, we were scheduled for two days. He did everything. He showed us how to use it and all the little clicky knobs. Everything was great. My mother-in-law likes it and that's good because she's very picky. The only thing I don't like about it is they said it was super duper durable and the floor was like boat stuff, but when I stepped in it, it bows down a little bit. But it's normal for those types of showers. I just figured it would be sturdier. Everything else is great on it.

Safe Step Walk-In Showers did a fine job, but make sure that you check everything out when you're done. Their rep was straightforward. We went over whatever we decided on. We set up an appointment. The installers came in, did the job and got out. The shower works fine. It's the hole they left on the wall that's not fine. The installers did a lousy job. The hole was elongated. It's roughly half by inch and a half. It wasn't a hole at first. They punched the wall. So, the wall was pushed through. And it was broken. So, they had to break it off and fill the hole. I didn't know how far they would go. They drilled the hole and left. I know you can't just drill on a hole and just let it be. You gotta come back and finish it. They didn't fill it. So, I had to do it myself. Other than that, we are able to get in and out easier and relax. We wanted it to be easier to access ourself to a shower and it is. It's very much easier and it's what we wanted. And it helps with aches and pains.

Everybody was very, very cool. I'm a 5'10" and about 120 pounds, but I got no butt. I had to get a butt pillow because the chair hurt when I have to sit in the shower. I have bad legs. We've only had it a few weeks and we're getting used to it. It's just very different to the smaller shower that we had. So it takes some time to get it to where we're as comfortable as we wanna be. But it's fine. We were used to a regular tub and a smaller shower, and this Safe Step tub is bigger and open and it's colder in there than we want. I don't mind that it's not zero entry but I do mind that the shelves weren't put where we asked, which was in the rear of the shower, not the front and there was no soap dish. I love everything about my shower, 'cause I went from a small bathtub-shower combination thing that leaked. Safe Step's reps were very courteous and professional. Being a sales manager for 30 years, I can recognize certain traits with companies and their employees. And if I interviewed those people, I would have hired them myself. They were good employees. They drove a long ways to do the job, too. They drove from Oklahoma City, two and a half hours one way. And they worked their butts off to get it done in one day so that they didn't have to drive all the way back the next day. They were here from early in the morning until 10 o'clock at night. It was a husband and wife team and they worked very well together. She had her job that she does and he has the things that he specializes in.
The walk-in shower is in my master bedroom and it looks great. But I had mentioned to the gentleman that I plan on tearing up the tile in the bathroom and doing all kinds of work in there, but I didn't say when. He assumed that I would do it soon so he didn't caulk in around the edge of the shower where it meets the tile. There's a quarter to an inch gap in certain places. He said, "We'll come up and do that if you want. We thought you were gonna change your tile out soon." It would be five hours round trip to come up and just caulk it. I said, "No. Don't spend the gas, tolls and time just to come up to caulk that. I can do it. No problem." But that was nice that they offered to come all the way up to just caulk it.
Meanwhile, I have another bathroom and I've been using it with a shower chair in it. With the tub, it's difficult to get in and out there. I'll put the shower chair in the walk-in shower. It's a roll-in shower. The bottom lip is a little soft so you can wheel a wet wheelchair into there, which I'm not gonna do. But I liked it a bit lower. And I'll get my shower chair in there and I'm sure it's gonna be great.
It has a little holder on the side for the nozzle, where right now, the one in the other room, I have to lay it on the floor of the tub, and when I'm doing my hair, I got soap in my eyes, I have to feel around for it. Normally, they only do one bar. And they put a bar on both sides. So, no matter which side I get out, I can grab a hold. And they had their work cut out for them because it's backed up against the fireplace. When they took all the wood, they had all bunch of brick and stuff there, too. I would refer them.

I got a Safe Step shower. The presentation was okay. The rep showed me a piece of the material and how dirty it was and supposedly gave me some deals on some extras. The installation took seven hours. I like it. It was a quick install, but it is pricey. As far as the shower goes, the safety bar was included. I didn't get the shower chair. That was extra and a lot more. The salesman even told me, "You can go to Walmart and get one for like 30 bucks," but I don't need one as of the time. A corner shelf was included.
We opted for the glass doors, which was extra. I realize I have an old house and they said my walls were really crooked, which I didn't think they were that off. I'm not really happy with the way they close. There's like a quarter to a half-inch gap on one side. It touches at the bottom, but it doesn't touch at the top. Also, I had this tile board stuff halfway up on my walls, and if they would have cut that out, which I wouldn't have cared, I think it would have fit a little better. Maybe I should have said something to them while they were installing.

I called Safe Step. The guy came out, gave me the bill, but it was too expensive for me. However, he was aware that the VA had a program for veterans that I could qualify for. And I had in my master bathroom a shower that had a drain. I couldn't use it. It was leaky when I bought this house three years ago. The guy said, "Maybe we could hook you up with that kind of a program." So, I followed that with the VA. And I was able to qualify for that.
It was a frustrating experience to get to completion, but I am most satisfied with the completed result. Because the first guy had us turn in some stuff, said he would call me and be back the next week. But I never heard from him. He quit and nobody picked up my job from his stuff. I called the second time and said, "This guy said I could do something with the VA and I need to turn in to the VA to see if I can do this." "Oh, okay." So, they got somebody else out here to do the measurements and it got turned in. I was approved reasonably quickly.
The day when the installer was supposed to come, he got sick. So, Safe Step called me and said, "We're sorry, but our person is sick." Nobody could have done anything about the guy who got sick. So, they had to reschedule me again. Finally, on that last time, the guy showed up and did an excellent job. It took me from June the 6th when I first got involved until October 15th when they finished the installation.
The installers had to take out the old cement drain and relocate for the position of the new drain because the shower that would go in would have a longer base than the one that they would take out. And they had to do all the stuff for the plumbing to get that up into the studs. They measured everything out and put blocks where they would put braces. And they got everything braced where they had to put in the ceiling. Also, they had to readjust where things were on a wall that was there.
The installer worked with his helper the first day when they put up all the sheets of stuff to make the walls. And the next day, he came back and did all of the detail work. And he had to do a bit of putting in a piece of sheet rock in an area where it was left because he worked in a 60-inch space. But I had a pipe that took up five inches of that. So, they could only put in a 48-inch shower so he could throw in a piece of sheet. The second day, he came back. He did all the stuff, got everything caulked. The second day was easier and he didn't need a helper. But he was very meticulous. He did an excellent job. I was amazed that one young man did it because it looked so good. I like its size and that it can now be used. That was a good thing that they approved that I could increase the size of it. I was able to update the rest of the bathroom as well. It fits the space much nicer.

We had a Safe Step Walk in Shower installed this spring. The expensive one was $18000 and it does look very nice BUT our plumbing system is now experiencing Water hammer and they have still not managed to make it stop despite having a plumber out and installing a new item??? in the shower wall twice. The install tech was out again yesterday and told us the manager has refused to send what is the correct item to fix this problem and some other people in the Southeast Washington area are having the same problem.
Order #** from Safe Step. That tech is no longer employed by Safe Step as he says the manager (Steve) does not want to spend the money to correct this problem. Water hammer will end up damaging our plumbing system and I do not need a leak. What recourse do we have for this problem? Steve had been slow to respond to complaints and if I do not call him he does not bother to call me see what is going on. Not very good customer service.

The installation day was a very busy day for the men who were working. They did a nice job and almost finished the Safe Step walk-in shower but I had to finish the tile that they cut away. Also, I wanted to put up one more grab bar. But I like that I don't have to step over a bathtub and it has more room in it. Sometimes, I wish it had drawers but I can do with the drapes.

I was annoyed by their presentation. The salesman was telling me about their product compared to what I had. He said, "Yours is just a plastic bathtub." And I said, "No, it's not." And he said, "Yes, it is." I started throwing him out of the house right there. The installation was not very professional. The difference between an amateur and a professional is that the professional covers his mistakes better. The techs didn't even cover their mistakes very well. I've sent an email and SafeStep has not replied. The shower is good but I'm not pleased with the Safe Step. My old bathtub was at least three times as thick on the floor. Plus, I can feel the floor flex in the Safe Step.
I can't say that I'm really dissatisfied because what I have is nice compared to what I had. But the product is not what the rep was claiming it to be. It's not far superior to what I had. It does have the room that I was looking for. It has a little edge to it that takes up space. Also, the slope at the back and at the front takes up space too.
I got the chair for my wife and I. If she wants to shave her legs, she needs to be able to lift her foot up and put it on something. And since now it's not a tub and it's just four or three walls that come all the way down to the bottom, there's nothing for her to set her foot on. She would have to lean over all the way to do it. I also got it for the other bathroom so if someone's in there and they need to, say, dry their foot off and they can't bend over well like me, they can lift their foot and set it up there.
The chair folds back up out of the way and if you were going to sit in the chair while you were taking a shower there's a place where you can place the shower head so it'll spray on you. But it's at the elbow knocker area. I was hoping that if I told them about that, the techs would move it. Also at the corners of the shower where there are places to put soap or shampoo, it's just two shelves. One's at the front of the shower and one is at the back and they're both too high.
Additionally, the shower head in the master bathroom is too high for my wife. The caulking job was also not done right. Mold could grow in the little indentations of the caulking and that's in a couple of places on mine. Also, the wall piece that they put in is a semi-waterproof board that was placed where the shower head is so it has something secure to mount the shower head on and mount the valve that turns the shower on and off. But for the other two walls, nothing was placed there. If it's not cut completely straight, then there's a gap. The gap we have is almost three-quarters of an inch wide and it's just filled in with caulk. Caulk does not last. I've mentioned this in my email to them but they haven't bothered to reply.

The gentleman that works for Safe Step did an excellent job. He had a great personality. I got an answer from him for anything that I asked. One of the things I always look at is the employee's personality. Were they courteous and always there to answer questions and they were. The new shower is great. It allows me to slide right in on the wheelchair. I would highly recommend it to anybody, whether it be a veteran or nonveteran. The work has been exceptional.

We were a little disappointed that the Safe Step salesman who gave a sales pitch seemed like he was scripted. I had been in sales in the past for a while and some of the things he said were just right out of the book on how to close the sale. That was just amusing more than anything. He did say that if we purchase the step-in shower, he would be there either at the end of the day that day or the next day or so to check it out and make sure everything was up to snuff. That did not happen. We waited patiently for almost two weeks after it was installed and still heard nothing from the salesman.
So, I reached out to the guy who installed it because there was a couple of things missing. We did not get the little corner caddy that's supposed to be put in there to hold your shampoos and things. The salesman also told us that even though we probably wouldn't need it, it's a kit. So, it comes with a shower rod and a shower curtain liner kind of thing. We did not get that. We also did not get a second grab bar. There's supposed to be two grab bars. We only got one.
When I called the installer and mentioned those things to him, his response was, "Well, I can't put a second grab bar in because that would have been positioned right where the sliding glass door is attached to the wall." He also said, "Well, you don't need the shower curtain rod because you have glass doors." As far as the corner caddy, he made an appointment with us for several days out to come back and install that. He did not show up. He didn't call us. So, I am a little disappointed with the customer service after the sale.
As far as the product, we're using it. The quality is fine. I reached out to the salesman before I called the installer and I had to leave a voicemail. The next day, he did call back, but it was after-hours and I missed the call, and he never tried again. So, it is a little disappointing. We're talking about a high-dollar item here. The product itself is good but there was a lack of customer service after the sale.

Steve was a gem. I have a German Shepherd, Lily. She is big and mouthy. I was locking her up and he asked me not to. He made friends with my dog before he made friends with us. That was the selling point. The installers showed up and it was kind of weird because I had some other work being done outside. So, it was a little hectic. These gentlemen were remarkable. They came in and did everything. Before they left, they made sure that they ran everything past me and everything looked like it should. I knew how everything worked and they left. Even the contractors that were outside working on another project of mine commented on how quick they did it and how efficiently. They weren't bothered even by them. So, it was smooth the way it worked. They told me not to use it for 24 hours because of the caulking. But we had to experiment on it the next day and it worked better than I would have dreamed.
The tub is big enough for my husband to go in there and the dog to poke her head in and out. Steve also recommended that because of Lily liking the shower and she loves water splashing on her, he recommended not getting the glass door on the shower. I did not know that was an option that we didn't have to have the glass door. So, they brought a shower curtain for me. Lily goes in and out. She peeks her head in to make sure my husband is okay. My husband likes the chair and I like the rain forest sprinkler head. I was going to remind to ask about it when Steve showed up and he informed me that that was part of the packet. So, I didn't even need to ask. It also has a wand that has a smaller rain showerhead attached to that that we can take off and move around us. That is amazing as well.

Only one person came back the next day and he worked till 10 o’clock at night. He said his help had quit. Most of the work happened on the second day and Safe Step was short-handed. The faucets are backward. The cold water is hot water, and the hot water is cold water. We’ve been trying to call Safe Step for three weeks trying to get them to come out here and straighten it out. The salespeople didn't try to push anything on me and gave me options. They told me what their opinion was but I made the final decisions on everything. It was a very pleasant experience. The representative took measurements and even made suggestions. All the walls of this house are bone-colored. So, I first suggested just doing the walk-in shower in white. The rep said it would look a lot better if we did it in bone. It would match the walls almost perfectly. And he was absolutely correct. The installers set up a date for the installation and let me know the time when people would be here. The people showed up exactly when they said they would be here and even put down drop cloths all the way down the hallway to where the bathroom is located at the end of the hallway. They were very meticulous in regards to making sure everything was neat and clean and no debris was left behind.
The new walk-in shower is very nice. I haven't used it yet but I got into it and tried out the fold-down seat. It's bolted right to the wall through that one opposite wall where the shower is at, and it's very sturdy. They said it would hold up to 300 pounds and they're right there, too. But I mainly put it in for a guest that might come. The walls are smooth and sealed with a trim around them. I had glass doors installed instead of plastic and they're very beautiful sliding glass doors, and I couldn't be happier. Safe Step’s reps were very professional and did exactly what they said they would do. They even followed up making sure I was happy. If I had to do it over again, I'd contact the people at Safe Step. They do a heck of a good job. When they cut the pipes out to reinstall their showerhead, I even asked them if I could keep the copper because I could use it. The Safe Step walk-in showers are not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Seven years ago, we put in a tile shower and it was leaking. I had a deep tub in there that I didn't get in anymore because I was afraid of falling so we started looking at Safe Step for the bathtub part. They also had showers so we had them do a walk-in tub and a walk-in shower. My husband said the price was a sticker shock. It was expensive but we no longer wanted a tile shower.
I'm very satisfied with the Safe Step walk-in shower and we like the guys who did it. First, the installers put the tub in and then, they came back and put the shower in. After they put the shower in, it was holding some water. They were not in town and had to drive far, and they came and fixed it right away. It was great. My husband said there are no leaks and there are so many different things we can use in the walk-in tub. We got the one with the microbubble and that's probably my favorite part, and just feeling safe and comfortable. I love it more than I thought I would. The rep, Kim, was great and I liked her. Safe Step is pricey, but they do what they advertise. They advertised they would put you in a shower and it would take one day, hopefully. And it did. I talked to a plumber here, and he told me that I would have to hire him and a carpenter. I could just see the mess that I would get into. I could get the plumber, but the carpenter I couldn't. I would be without my shower. So I said, "One day, it's worth it." And what the plumber quoted me was what I paid Safe Step. And that quote from the plumber was two years before. It is pricey, but it's fair.
The reps were courteous and answered all my questions. It was very good. The installers were very nice, professional, and neat. They told me upfront when they took the bathtub out, that it could be longer than one day if they ran into problems. They put down runners all the way to the bathroom. The guy said, "The floor under your tub look pretty good, but I wasn't positive so I reinforced it." So, he went the extra mile. And they cleaned up after themselves. They came at 8:30 and were out of here by 4:30. The shower is roomy and easy to get into, exactly the reasons I bought it. If you're looking for an easy access shower, I would recommend Safe Step.

We called Safe Step and had a gentleman come out and talk to us for an hour and a half or more. We felt very comfortable about what was going on, so we signed the papers and got the shower. The installers did a pretty good job. We have noticed since they left that some of the caulking around the edges, instead of a nice, straight, steady bead, it's got some little starts and stops and little chinks here and there. I'm not really happy with the way the caulking looks. I've run beads of caulk myself and I thought they could probably run a little better bead of caulking. But we don't have company in the shower, so it's not a big deal.
We also had some drips that did go away, but I called the number I've been given and I left a message, but I never got a response on that. Other than that, the installation took three and a half, four hours, and it was pretty amazing. My husband loves to shower and he feels very confident in the walk-in. He likes having the seat and it's one of the smartest things we did for his health condition as it is right now. We paid a lot but we got a lot.

I talked to my primary care physician who is a VA doctor. I just mentioned Safe Step Walk-In Showers to her, and she said, "I'll look into it." They called and told me that they had received my prescription for a walk-in shower. My doctor did all that. I was called and told when the installers would come out. So, I asked them what time, and they said between 8:00 and 9:00. So, I've got my family up, and we waited on them to arrive. They came in and Louis introduced himself, and his partner came up.
They started bringing their equipment in, and worked on taking the tub out. They moved back and forth, took stuff in and out. When they got down to the part where they started putting it together, they started bringing the equipment in. I didn't wanna get in their way so I stayed in the living room while they brought the shower in piece by piece.
One asked me if I wanted to take a look at how it looked so far. I went back there and saw it was taking shape. So, I went out. And it took them the whole day to finish it. When they got to completion, he said, "Would you like to take a look at it now?" So, I went back there. I was amazed how good it looked. I told the man, "That is nice." He asked, "You like it?" I said, "Yeah, I like it." He said, "I'm glad you like it now." So, they went on and told me that he were finished. Everything that they ripped up, they took out. After the installation, they vacuumed up all the debris which they took and hauled off. Once they came out, I said, "You guys heading back to North Carolina now? He said, "Yeah." I said, "Have a safe trip." And I thanked them for the shower.
I was the first one to take a shower after they finished. Because I asked the installer, "When could I use it?" And he said, "Tomorrow." At first, there was a minor problem where I couldn't get the hot water mixed with the cold water because it was scalding hot. So, after I finished showering, I called Safe Step and asked them if they could send the installers back out, because there was a small problem where I couldn't get cold water to come in and mix with the hot water. And they had a few problem as far as getting the installer to come out. But he finally did.
It wasn't the same guy. It was a guy named Joe. And he has something to do in the office there. He said, "Someone will be there even if I have to come myself." So, he came out and corrected that. I took another shower and had a wonderful experience. The water was good and the spray was fine. It's making a bit of impact. I was unable to take showers because my legs wouldn't allow me to get over the bathtub level. My skin was drying out because all I could do is go into the bathroom and use the sink to wash up. So, I had some spots on my leg where I had been injured playing softball. I couldn't keep it moist with water because I couldn't shower. And it was far for me to reach down there with my hands to do it. I could walk right in and turn the water on, and stand up under the shower with a washcloth and scrub myself down. And that takes care of some of the dead skin.

The representative came over and was here for a few hours trying to take the measurements. He acted like he had all day to do what he wanted to do when we talked. He sat down and went over every nickel and dime, right to the very end. Then, when the guys came over to install the walk-in shower, they were here early. I told them what they gotta do. I was working on my porch and I told them to just give me a call if they needed me. I was outside so every now and then, I'd go in and see how they were doing, and they were going right along nicely.
The installers took a good full day to get the installation done. They were missing a part that wasn't shipped with them, so they had to make a special trip back. They said it takes them three hours to get from where they're located to where I live in Ballston Spa. But the guy came down and put the corner bracket in where your soap and shampoo go, and then he had to put some more silicone around the area that those guys didn't get to. But other than that, it was fine. I'm happy with the whole system. The walk-in shower is very easy to use. It's safer to get in and out of than what I had been doing. And it's great to have something brand-new again.
I got two different levels. I can have the showerhead up on the very top but I don't have a seat in mine, because I didn't want one at the time. But if I wanna put it down lower, I can. And it feels like I've got more room. I have not taken a bath since I was probably eight years old because from then on, it's just strictly been showers. And I continue to do that because I don't like sitting in dirty water. But I'm very happy with the Safe Step walk-in shower. I love the texture of the wall but I had the ceramic tile on three sides of the wall where the tub was and I just loved it so I miss that. When I step in the shower, it's just plain bone white, whereas, the tile was sparkly and bright and blue.
The walk-in shower was a little bit more costly than I thought it was going to be but it was worth it. It's one of those things that if you want something good, you pay for it. And you get it, hopefully. The $12,000 to have that installed in all for one day's worth of work blew me out of the water. But it's gotta be done so let's get it done. It's either that or I'm gonna jump in the shower some night and find myself in the basement. The tub was leaking that bad and it wasn't plumbing. The tub itself around the drain was where it was leaking. But that tub has been in there 30 some odd years.

I figured we'd look around and my mom was not happy with me because I scheduled with Safe Step without telling her. But she just signed the contract that day. Safe Step was rated pretty good. All they do are the walk-in bathtubs and showers though and they don’t have their own workers to do the installation. They didn't necessarily represent themselves clearly and subcontracted out. But the guy who did the installation has his own company and we've contracted with him for some other work. We like him a lot. He's great. We were told the installation would be done in one day, but they ran into one issue and then, they had to put one piece in and replace it later. So, it took two days. The grab bars were the last thing to go in and it took a few more days to get that in. But my father could use the shower after the first 24 hours.
When we tried to get back to the sales guy, he said he didn’t know who the installer was. He should have said he would see if he could find out something instead of just saying he didn't know. I'm old school and customer service would say they would find out for me. Still, it was a good experience. We love the product and we're very satisfied with it. My father likes it and it’s just getting used to it. He only showers every few days and that's because he doesn't do anything. My mom has helped him a few times when he has taken a shower to try to figure out everything. Once he gets into the habit of doing it, he’ll be okay. But if he passes before my mom does, then she will get to use it. I would have a walk-in shower in a heartbeat myself. I'm thinking about putting in an extra bathroom in my house and it's a 100-year-old farmhouse. And we talked to the contractor about that.

The initial contact with Safe Step was wonderful. The sales rep was a very pleasant man. But it took quite a while for them to come out and install it. They had given us an initial date then it went past that date. When they came out to do the install, they did it quickly. But there were a couple of issues. There were three panels that went in. The third panel was not behind the showerhead but on the opposite side of the showerhead. When they were drilling that to put up the last panel, they drilled through the other side of the wall. The installer was very upset with himself, and he came out to the living room and apologized. He said, "We're gonna seal up that hole. It didn't go into your fuse box. I'm gonna put a temporary thing up. You still won't be able to use your shower until then." This was a Tuesday. He said his brother is a plumber and that he'd send him over that Friday to put the last wall up and fix everything.
In the meantime, my husband looked in the bathroom and saw this long scratch in my wall, on the opposite side of the toilet. It wasn't a big gouge, but it was deep enough that it had to have some type of fixing. It had to have some kind of a putty or something to fix it. Also, we didn't know how to match the color of the wall. I called the guy on his cell phone and he called back. He said, "When my brother comes out, we could get the paint matched. He can get that fixed up for you." It made it sound like it was no problem.
The next day, we woke up and smelled this horrible sewer smell. We went in and used the toilet to flush it. We heard these loud gurgling sounds. I was not only angry that he put a hole on the wall near the fuse box and had this big scratch on the wall, but we also had this smell and gurgling noise. When I called down to the main office, I spoke to a lady thinking she was the one I needed to speak to. I vented with her first. The she said, "I need to pass you over to the manager." I had to go through it again. When I was speaking to the manager, she was at a point where she didn't wanna let me speak. I've been in customer service. I used to train operators on the phone for answering services. The very best thing to do is allow the person to vent, let them say everything they want, then diffuse the situation. She wasn't doing that. As I was raising my voice and trying to get my point across, she was raising her voice at the same time.
At one point, I told her, "Please let me vent out everything I wanna say and then respond to me." She wouldn't let me do that. She kept interrupting me and telling we they were handling it. Three times, as we were talking back and forth, we got disconnected and I'd call her back. It would go to voicemail. She was avoiding the call. I waited a little bit and called back again. Finally, she answered. She said she had reached to the older brother and he was gonna be calling me back. A little bit later, he called me back and told me, "All you have to do is have you or your husband run water. They didn't finish running water into your system to test it and allow that hatch to close. The hatch is open right now and that's why you're getting the odor and the gurgling." As soon as he told us that, my husband went into the bathroom, ran water in the shower, and that thing closed. There was no more smell or gurgling.
But overall, we're happy with the shower. It's beautiful. The old showerhead was very stiff and you couldn't move it. This showerhead is very flexible. It's so much easier 'cause I have trouble with my hands with neuropathy. The settings on it are easy to get to. I just wish the whole thing wasn't so expensive. When it came out to 11,500, that was double what I was anticipating.

The sales rep from Safe Step was very knowledgeable, polite and able to sell. He was good at what he was doing. The installation was very good but the installers were supposed to finish the outside of the wall that they put up, and they never did. They had to build a wall in order to put the shower up because I had a clawfoot tub before and they had to put some tubiforms to make the wall. They were supposed to put something over those tubiforms and that was not done. So, when you walk in there, you can see the tubiforms in the back of the shower wall. I called the representative and let him know about it. I assumed he was gonna take care of it but nothing's been done yet, and that's about a month ago now.
The installers also said I was supposed to get a shower curtain and I never received that. And there are a couple of holes in the floor that they should have found some way to cover up so the water can't get down into the ceiling over the kitchen. One was for the water line and the other was for the drain line for the old tub. I like that the walk-in shower has a wand and a shut-off valve on the wand. It also has a chair. I got a lot of physical problems so I have to sit down in the shower and that way, I can take the shower head over to the seat. I can shut it off while I'm on the seat instead of having to go over to the wall and shut the valve off. It's very helpful.

We had a full-sized tub there. The installers removed that. They made sure the dust stayed down. They cleaned up after themselves, because it was the original fiberglass, all in one piece, that was put in when the house was framed. And they had to work around a chairlift on the stairwell. So, they covered everything so no dust could get in. We have wooden floors. They took care of that. Everything. The fellow's name was Dylan. And his partner, the young man who assisted him, was very good as well. I like the ease of cleaning the shower, the setup itself. The way the grab bars are set up. The showerhead is movable. And the chair is excellent. It's simpler and safer in the shower area. There's no climbing into a tub. A solid product that meets our needs.

Michael did the presentation and he had a good attitude. They did the installation in a couple of weeks and it was going good all the way up until I started asking questions. They showed up late on the first day and the next day. Then, they had to beg for time so they could stay to finish it up. I found a few things after using the shower a couple of times. They had a couple issues with the floor pan, the drain, the aesthetics of it and adjustments. It is not the best quality I've seen and it's not a $15,000 job. They sent a guy out to take a look at it. He said he has to make sure he gets the right panel and that he's gonna come back with the time frame to call me up and let me know.

The sales rep was very nice and informative. He answered all of our questions. Safe Step said they were gonna get the installation done in a day, and they did. It costs so much and yet, it's just a generic shower. My brothers had some questions about the flooring. It was my understanding that they were going to replace any flooring that was bad, and there was an area where they just put another piece of plywood over the top of it. So we called them, and they came back out to look at it, and I haven't had a chance to talk to my brother since then. I'm not really sure what the outcome of that conversation was, but I have confidence that it'll be taken care of with whatever the outcome.

Safe Step's rep was nice. We sat in the kitchen and talked. He went over everything. I originally wanted a walk-in tub. But I don't have anywhere in my house to put another water heater. And my water heater is too small for a walk-in tub. So, I had to downgrade to a shower. We started talking about the cost. It was too much. But when you get the quality of the work that they put into it, and the fact that I wouldn't have to worry about getting it repaired if anything tears up on it, all I have to do is pick up the phone and call them. And they would come fix and replace it. It has a lifetime guarantee with it.
But the guys that came to install were very polite and explained everything to us.

Safe Step Walk-In Showers lost money with me because the person who brought the first shower brought the wrong stuff. It was supposed to be a shower for a wheelchair. Safe Step corrected the problem by sending a second shower. It took a while to get it here. It's not a one-day delivery. It's more like one month. The second people took the shower out and put the new one in which is now satisfactory and hopefully, will work all right. The people who installed the shower were very polite and understood the problem.

Safe Step Walk-In Showers came out and did a presentation. The rep went through the presentation as far as which model would be best for us. And he sold us on the luxury model with the jets in the front. When they put the jets in, the water pressure went down because the pipes were half the size of the original ones. Plus, they couldn't reach the thing. They had put a hole in my shower in order to install it. So, I have to take that out and see if they would return it for me.
When they installed the shower, the shower stall came up half over the window. The installer cut it out so we could see out the window. But on both sides, part of the shower went over the frame of the window. We were very unhappy with that. He did not measure where the window would go and how much he would need to have so it would fit the window correctly. We paid $19,000 for that and it's not worth a hundred.
I contacted Safe Step. The girl said, "Just have the installer fix it." I said, "It's not the installer's fault. It is the salesperson. He did not measure." She said, "Do you wanna call him or should I?" I said, "You're the one selling the product. You call." So, she got snippy with me. And when I wanted to talk to the manager at corporate, she called me back. I said, "No, I don't wanna talk to you. I wanna talk to the manager at corporate." "What can I do for you?" She wouldn't put me in touch with him. They didn't care. They just cared about selling it. So, I am very unhappy.

The presentation by the rep came at a time when it was necessary. My husband was not able to get in the shower by himself and my son had to come over. So, we were anxious to get the installation done because of the time frame. But it was done in bits and pieces. It wasn’t a one-day thing that Safe Step promised. The truck broke down and the installers had to go back and forth with stuff on it. And the shower curtain never got delivered. They said that it was gonna be mailed but it never got here. My husband is now in a nursing home and he keeps telling me to use the walk-in shower. But I have my own bathroom that I've been using and I told him that when and if he comes home, I'll consider it.

We need a facility for a sister-in-law who visits that has challenges. The sales visit with Safe Step was good. We had some specific requirements. Although my sister-in-law is not wheelchair-bound, we had some height requirements and certain safety bar locations. We needed to make sure that the shower could accommodate from a safety standpoint. So that was really good. Safe Step gave the safety features that my wife was comfortable that my sister-in-law could maneuver by herself, which was a key thing. They were able to provide that assurance for us. My sister-in-law loves that she doesn't need any assistance the way it's set up. So that was perfect. We had to convert quickly and it was timely with Safe Step. The work was done really well. The only issue was that the install crew had some challenges with their vehicle when it came in. So they started and stayed later.

And this is when we can do this, that, and the other." And I went, "Terrific. Great." The installers came in and put the shower in here together. They laid their tarps and things on the floor to keep from messing up my floor. And when Eric went out of here, he forgot to pick them up. When he came in, he said, "Did you put those down?" I said, "No, you left them down." He went, "Oh." I got a kick out of that. But whatever he found wrong in there, he fixed for me. He explained it all to me. I don't remember the name of the young man that was with him. But they were great at what they did. They explained everything, told me what was going to happen, and they worked well together.
I've been meaning to call Safe Step and get them to call Eric and get him to call me because he did something in there and I agreed to it. And he told me some things that he found wrong under the house when he went back to turn my water on for the shower. My plumber came by and told me about it. He came in and said, "Do you know what he did? You know where he's got the faucet? Do you realize that's on the outside of the house? It's on insulation in the bathroom. But when it gets down to the foundation, it's gonna freeze down." Outside of that, I love my shower. My cats love it, too.

With the Safe Step shower, she ain't got to step up that high, and I ain't gotta worry about her falling or tripping. It got good space, too. On the installation day, they reconstructed everything. They took the tub out, they cut away anything that was messed up, and redid the whole floor. The final product is excellent. There is a chair in there and the detachable shower head, and she can sit down and really wash and clean herself. She doesn't have to worry about bending over and slipping and falling. The grab bars work fine, too. I like the way the textured bottom of the floor of the shower is slip proof. I'm really satisfied. She loves the product. A nice gentleman came from New Jersey and he couldn't get it done in one day because my iron tub with a porcelain cover was almost impossible to get out of where it was. He had situations in my bathroom to deal with that he didn't usually have, like cutouts at the end of the tub. But he did a wonderful job. I'm not happy with my Safe Step. The original order was for three grab bars and they only had two. So, they put one that was slick and not rubber coated. When we first tried to use the walk-in, we almost had a very serious accident. I called Safe Step and said that this was not going to work. They said that I was gonna have to pay for a new bar as I didn't have it in my order. I also explained to them that when I turn the handle towards the blue dot, it should be cold but it's hot. When I talked to the installer about that, he said that the handle was a flawed design. Maybe they're getting them for $2 off from China or they're painting them wrong.
We had a girl in 24-hour customer service who wasn't very helpful. I told them, "There's three on the order." The installers did not have what they needed and they put in a substitute. They made up some type of ticket and the rep called the project manager. She was supposed to call me back but she didn't. Three weeks later, I got someone out. The installer said he was coming and I waited all day for him. He did not show up so I called him. He said, "Oh, my truck broke down. The thing's been on back order." If it takes three weeks to get a grab bar in, how are they staying in business.
This was a big issue for me. I had to send my sister home because I could not care for her hair. I have another bathroom, but it has a much higher tub and there is no way she could ever get into that. I had to pay someone to take care of her. There was no way I could wash her up adequately. I was very very disappointed with the whole ordeal and the fact that they wouldn't call me back. I should have known that there was something fishy with the rep who gave the estimate because he told me, "If you don't take the offer today and decide in a week that you want it, it'll be $1,000 more." I said, "That's not really good business practice. That's kind of like a high-pressure sales pitch."
They finally put the bar in but there was nothing they could do about the water situation. Plus, I would have to be a midget to use one of the grab bars. The tech said there wasn't a stud in my wall where he could put it up higher. I can stead myself on it but it's only 3.5ft off the floor. The one on the other side is about 4.5ft where one can actually get ahold of it and pull myself. I'm not happy but not totally dissatisfied because I'm able to use the walk-in now and bring my sister back home.

I was working with Kevin who was very much a salesman. The price was a little high but I decided to do it because I needed to get a shower in place of the tub. Kevin did everything he was supposed to do to sell me the shower. The technicians came from Albuquerque and were late. Patrick was one of them. They had to wait for a store to open so they could buy supplies. It's a distance to get here. I'm in Silver City, which is far from everywhere. Then they left and went to get some equipment they hadn't been able to get and came back. They seemed to be working very consistently and efficiently. But I realized later that it was a little too efficient that I felt like they were rushed. Since I've seen the quality of the installation of the project, I wish I had gone with Jacuzzi.
They told me not to use the shower for 48 hours. While I was waiting to be able to take a shower, I heard a big boom in the bathroom. I went and looked, and the shower head holder had fallen off. When I finally got in to take a shower, I found that the acrylic work was slovenly done. It was bubbly and had that depth to it that shouldn't be there. I called Kevin and told him what the problem was and he said it would be a while before he could get somebody out here. I hadn't heard from anyone then finally, I heard from a couple of people that I explained my problem to. I had to call Kevin four times but he's a wonderful guy.
The other day, Patrick came back by himself. He lives in Phoenix so it's a long drive for him and he was not happy about that. He went to the store, got some sticker tape, and put the shower holder head back on the shower in a new place where I asked him to change it. He said no shop in town had the material he needed, which is an edge material to cover, not to fix the acrylic paste. He wrote out a paper but I did not get a copy of. He said that he would get back down here but didn't know when. He had to get this edging he wanted to get in the store in Albuquerque or Phoenix.

It was good service with Safe Step. The only issue I had was that they scheduled me, but on the day I waited, they didn't show up. They said they meant it was the next month. The crew was great. Last week, they had to come back and secure the handrail, the safety bars, and the door handle on the shower. The the grab bar wasn't installed properly and it was weak, bouncing back and forth. It wasn't secured to the wall and there was too much space in-between it. They came to fix it and took them about three hours because of the situation on the walls. They had to drill through the wall a little deeper.

It took a long time for the two guys to install our Safe Step walk-in shower. They got here around 9:00 and they didn't leave until it was late in the evening. But their work was very good. Everything works and in each corner of the shower, there are little stories. They had the parts that they put on the wall for me to put the shower head down there. I also ordered a chair to go in there because my son is a amputee and when he comes to visit, he uses that because he's got one at home. I might use it as well, but I like what I'm doing right now. Having the walk-in makes it safer for me to take a shower. It feels natural, too.

Safe Step has more of the safety features that I wanted in the shower. They are a little expensive, but they give you a very safe shower. The rep was upfront and told me everything. He gave me a good description of what they were gonna do. The only thing was they couldn't put one grab bar because of the window in the shower. They dropped the price of it by $199. I love the shower. It works well. I like the bars around the faucet when you turn the water on. That way, if you're not steady, you can hold on to that. I got the rain shower head on it which I like too.

The Safe Step sales rep took his time and he sold me on the product because I really wanted to get it. He was really good. For the tub, the installation was a long day, but they tried to work as expeditiously as possible. They cleaned up behind themselves. They showed me how to use the tub. For the shower, it wasn't as long, but the installers also were very courteous and cleaned up behind themselves. I enjoy the tub. I usually take a shower during the day and depending on what day of the week it is, I take a bath, sit down and let the water run. It's easier for me even if I'm taking a shower in the tub area. I'm very satisfied with the product.

I called Safe Step and spoke to Amy, our representative. She came out and showed us a fast little clip on the showers. I told her we would love to have it, but we wanted doors on our shower. She said they don't put doors on the showers. I told her we couldn't do it but she said, “I think I know someone that can install doors for you.” I said, “If we can do that, we wanna go ahead.” We went ahead and I paid her $6,000 down on it that day.
The men came out and were good workers. They were David and JD. They took the tub out and found out we had to have a plumber. We got the plumber the next day. David and JD came back a day later and finished the install. Amy later said, “Stephen could put those shower doors in for you,” so I called him. He said that he could do that but later said, “You need to get the doors then we can install them.” He told us the measurements to get it. My husband and I went to Home Depot and got some nice doors. They were 800 and something dollars.
JD and David took the doors and went to put them in. But the doors were a little longer at the lip of the bottom of the shower. He said immediately, “These won't work.” He helped us get them back in the box. We had to take them back to Home Depot and get our money back. David said, “I think we have some shower doors in our shop. We'll check.” But I never heard anything back. About a week and a half later, I called Stephen. He said, “Call Amy and let her get the doors for you.” I called Amy but I've never heard from her. We've been discouraged. We still have two years to pay on this.
The shower is nice. We're enjoying it. But we don't have the doors that we had asked for. There were a lot of confusion and things that were not done as they were said they would do. It's been frustrating. It should have been done right the first time. When Amy was doing the agreement for us, we had told her we would like the subway tile. When I looked at the agreement on the computer she sent the second time, it did not have the subway tile. The reason she had to do it again was because we told her we wanted shower doors. She took $1,000 off because of that and gave us a nice showerhead too.

We had quite a talk with the rep and he was the most pleasant to talk to. The installers put tarps and carpet lights all the way through the hallway. They went to work on the installation and did a good job. There used to be a glass door where my shower used to be. They had to take it out and put a curtain up on it. The tile ran outside of the bath shower. The tech said, "Okay, we'll make sure we'll put this all the way out here so we can cover everything up if we're taking the tile down." But it didn't get done that way because though they took all the tile out, the last row on the outside of the shower didn't get covered. I have to have somebody sand that down and repaint to match what the rest of the bathroom looks like. Also, I'm trying to figure out the dial. It has a red mark and a blue mark. I'm assuming that the red mark is the hot side and the blue mark is the cold side. I don't know if they hooked it up wrong but the red side is the cold side and the blue side is the hot side.
Other than that, they put handrails in and I'm very satisfied with my Safe Step. The way it's put together and everything now is that it seems to me that it's larger than what it was before.

Pam from Safe Step handled all of the VA claims and they have a lady that all she does is take care of the veterans. So, that was a big deal. The sales rep was very professional and wasn’t overly selling. But he offered certain upgrades that Ronnie may benefit from at his age and with some of the disabilities that he has. He had a very large product knowledge about everything that they offered and some of the things that would help Ronnie feel more independent.
The two gentlemen arrived 15 minutes early, got to work, and completed the installation of the walk-in shower. They worked till about 8 o'clock that night because they committed to getting it done in one day for Ronnie because he had a bunch of other appointments. So, they worked with his schedule. There were a couple of items that he was unhappy with after they left and they made it a point to come back and repair it. There were a couple of pieces that were sticking up and they made it right, and Ronnie is super happy. He did not go with any of the extra features because he had to do a lot of work to put his flooring. It's a very old house and because of the rigorous restrictions in the VA, he had to do a bunch of other work. So, his money was tied up in restructuring the door frame and we had to widen all the area to make sure that it could fit in a wheelchair through. Safe Step is a great company. They're professional and efficient.

Working with Safe Step was nice. The reps knew about the product and the company. The installation went well too. The walk-in shower was supposed to come one week, then the guy said he had to change it to the following week. I had to change all my dad's appointments at Roswell, but it was all right. Everything turned out okay. The installers put in the shower good, but then a piece fell off and my dad was in the shower at the time. I was pissed about it. I called the guy who set everything up for me. He gave me a number to call for the people to come out to fix it, but they haven't gotten back to me yet.
The day before yesterday, I texted the guy and he said he would handle it, but I still haven't heard anything back yet. Other than that, it's a nice shower. My dad lives with me, and he's 83. He has cancer in his back and his bones, and it really helps him. My dad and I love the walk-in shower. We can get in and out. It has a shower curtain, which I'm not quite sure. I'm a door person, but they told me to check the shower curtain out and live with it for a few months. If I don't like it, then they'll come back and install doors. So I'm good with that. But so far, the shower curtain is great. It has an overhead showerhead, and then if you turn the dial, it has the spray-on showerhead which is removable to be able to clean the shower. We opted not to get the seat that's on the back wall because we wanted more space to be able to walk around. We're not that old where we need a seat yet. We were dissatisfied a little with Safe Step because the sales rep promised it would be a one day job. The walk-in shower was for my parents and they're in their late 80s. They don't like to have their life disrupted. And it ended up being a three-day job as the people kept not showing up. They kept having equipment issues and trucks breaking down. I ended up having to call corporate and they said they were on top of it. They said they'd call me as soon as they figure out what was going on but I never heard from them again.
In the mean time, my parents were living in dust and clutter for days. And they have walkers. They can barely get around the house as it is. But the sales was fabulous and the installers did a great job. After the installation, they did not clean up and luckily, my parents have a house cleaner that was supposed to come a few days later. They called her and she came the next day to clean it up. So, it all worked out. But it was a little more complicated than they had planned for. If you're that old, that's a lot. Safe Step Walk-In Showers' rep was a lot of fun. He knew his business. And he didn't try to push anything off on us that we didn't need. Barbara wanted the chair. And I wanted a glass sliding door. The fellas brought it, but they showed me that the toilet is so close to the shower, that it wouldn't be handy. I realized that, so we just went with the shower curtain so I got an $800 refund.
Cody and his partner did a great job. After they did everything, they wanted us to wait a day or two before we use the shower. The shower is on the second floor, so it sits right over our dining room ceiling back in the corner of the ceiling. It was a bad leak. So, I had to call Cody back out, and it ended up they tested this and that, poured the water down the drain. He put more sealant around the drain in the shower, but it still leaked. So, I got him back. He cut a section out of the ceiling, and his buddy was upstairs, so they could talk on their cellphones. We heard Cody say he saw water. So he told me, on the drain pipe, he had to put another gasket around it. And that took care of it. They patched the section up in the ceiling, got it in good shape.
I told Cody on the phone, when he comes out, I would pay him for this because it's not their problem. It's nothing they did to cause it to leak. But he didn't want to take it. We love the tub. It has a good grip on the bottom of our feet. My wife has to use a cane to get around. So when she takes a shower, I have to help her get in and help her get out. Now, I can just stay downstairs. She goes up there, takes her shower, no problems.

I have a small bathroom and I wanted a step-in shower. I didn't want a door. I know it's expensive but I deserve some fringe benefits at my age. Working with Safe Step was very nice. They scheduled a person to come down and decide what I want and decide if they could do it and set a date. They hired a guy from Hot Springs and he was a very nice guy. He and his wife worked and got everything down. That took them all day. One reason I chose Safe Step is they go down to the bare wall, the studs, and everything. They then reinforce that and they built it back up again. This is an old house I live in and that was what I needed.
I love my new shower. What I got is what I wanted. I got a seat where I could sit down and I got the other holder for the shower down there by my feet, where I can cross my legs and scrub my feet up. When I had the tub, I bend over in order to scrub my feet real good. Someone did have to come back a second time because I didn't know which way to turn to make hot water. The guy that installed called me and he said, "Make sure you turn it all the way to the right." In my kitchen and with my bathroom sink, the hot water is on the left. The hot water for the shower is on the right. Whoever installs needs to really stress that for us old ladies that don't know right from left. Other than that, I recommend SafeStep.

They said they got to get the material in and they said they got the wrong color of material. Lots of lies. But the guy that installed it did a really good job. We're really pleased with it. It took him all day. His helper didn't show up that day, so he didn't have any help. He had to do it by himself and he worked all the way through. He didn't even stop for lunch.
We're happy with it. There's one grab bar. I need more than that and I've got some more that he left. He took some off of my old shower and left them here. I gotta screw them back over the wall. It has two showerheads, one that's hooked to a hose and one that's overhead that showers down on you. That works really fine. And the part where you adjust the water works well. I'm 75, and we had an old shower with a big step to go over. We wanted something that we could just walk into. So we called up Safe Step and they came out and told us when they could do it. I called one day before they were supposed to come and asked how they were gonna get the tub through the door. The rep said, “It's not one piece. It comes in several pieces and they caulk it." I also have questions about the caulk but nobody from Safe Step has called me to see how this went. The salesman that came out was so nice. He kept saying, “Oh, please be careful. I know this is hard for you to get into until we can get out here and fix it. Please be careful.” He was so sweet.
The installers were supposed to do the work on the 1st of May, and they called on the day before and said they had to put it off a week, and it would be on the Friday. I said, “I don't think you can do it in one day. Are you going to work on Saturday? Because I am not going to have a mess at my house over the weekend.” He said, “Oh, I couldn't do it in one day.” So we left it that they would come out the next week on Friday. Then he called on Wednesday, and he said, “We're going to come tomorrow.” So I had to hurry and get all my stuff moved. They came out the next morning. The installation was fine, except about six in the evening, the guy cut his finger real bad. They had to leave in a big hurry and they left all this mess in here, which I expected because I didn't think they could get done in one day. But they came back on Friday and finished the job and left. It looks pretty good, except I'm a little concerned about a couple of places where the caulking is.
The caulking just disappears. You can see the bead of it coming down the wall, but you can't see it anymore. It doesn't look good. It's not a full bead all the way across like it should be. But other than that, we're happy with the Safe Step showers. I can get in and out by myself and there's bars to hold on to. It's much bigger than our other one was. It's cleaner and clearer and easier to get into.

The shower part of our walk-in tub is okay and the other shower fixings were fine. But there are a couple of problems. I went to Home Depot and bought a showerhead that would come down more. They had it set way too high. It was going plumb on top of my wife's head. I told the guy that installed it about this and he said that was their standard thing. But what about the short people? That's the whole idea of a safe shower. It means they accommodate me for it to work for the safety of people. I had to go get fixtures and it's just a matter of hooking them up. You don't have to be a genius to do it. I got that solved.
The other issue is the water thing that turns the water hot and cold takes forever. When the water finally gets warm, you turn it up and it gets way too warm. That part doesn't work. Also, where the curtain comes down, the lip on the front of the base of the shower, it's not high enough. The curtain has magnets on it, but it doesn't stay unless you're really careful and watch the water 24/7 from coming out into the bathroom. It's not bad, but still, it should drain more in. If the step was just a little bit higher, the curtain would have more room at the bottom to where it wouldn't come out over the top of the thing.
I also had the guy come out. I can't bend over that well to wash my feet so he put a handle bar-like thing down low enough to where I could put my foot up on it and wash my feet. After I tried it, I thought, "That'll probably work." But it doesn't. I don't have a good balance. I had him come back out and take it back off and position it somewhere else in the shower to where it worked for me better.
Outside of those things, we're happy. I didn't go ahead and get the seat because it was too much. I couldn't see paying $800 for a fold-down seat. I bought a shower stool which we can use instead and it works. My wife and I are both handicapped. The reason we got rid of our tub was my wife could get in but she had to have help. I had to steady her so she could step up over the top of the tub. It's the same thing with me. My back is hurt too. Overall, we like the way our Safe Step walk-in tub looks. It's a good-looking thing. I like the room too. It's got a lot more room than the bathtub had.
It's easier to get in and out because you just got a small lip down there. But it's not a big enough one to keep the shower curtain in. The weights help but you have to be really careful because if you're not, you'll have to get ahold of it and pull it back over where it's supposed to be. Also, I saved Safe Step some money because the guy that worked on it said the little things that hold the soap and stuff were really small. They put on a couple of extra ones in there on each side. But he came up with an idea.
I had this white block on the walls for the covering. I told the guy I would like to keep those two. But it wasn't as good. It wasn't as nice as far as holding things. So the guy said, "Well, what I can do is, right down here, I can cut across here, cut around those and cut across and cut across, and leave those there." The deal was to enclose the whole shower, the top, and the sides. That was already done so that saved him from having to do that because he didn't have to put the whole wall. He still had to put a piece in there about four-foot from where he cut on down. It really doesn't match. It looks okay but it isn't quite the same whiteness as the other was. But I can live with that. Overall, it's all right and I'm satisfied.

My father's very pleased with the Safe Step walk-in shower. He loves it. He wishes he would have done it sooner. The salesman also gave a good pitch and the price was reasonable. The installers were considerate of the home. They put down a tarp to walk on so they didn't walk on the carpet. They were fast and efficient. I really like the nonslip floor that the shower still has. I didn't see that on any other of the other ones I've researched. That was an added bonus. I also liked that the seat could flip up if he wasn't using it, as opposed to being in a permanent fixture on the side back into the wall. I would have liked to have had frosted glass. It's a clear glass. But I don't think they offer that, or at least that was what I understood.

The sales rep was extremely polite, professional, and friendly. He knew his products. My mother and sister were there during the installation and they both said that the gentleman was also very friendly, and professional. He explained that there was a pretty bad storm moving into the area and that he would have to leave a little early to help the company get some other products inside, and he would be back first thing in the morning to finish, and he was. They were very pleased.
The shower is not cheap. But my mom said the shower was so pretty. We put in grab bars and the seat and then also the showerheads where she can reach them. She also had an extra shower bar in there, and they relocated it for her on the outside of the shower, so she got that when she got out. It was an extra and it was very nice.

The Safe Step walk-in shower is fine. We're enjoying it. A middle-aged man came, sat and talked with us and we went from there. I gave him a deposit, and I had to wait a month before I got it done. He called me a week later and said he had gotten behind and delayed it for another week. It was one day the installer finished his work, but there was a malfunction and we couldn't use the shower. Because every time we turn it on, water sprayed all over the place. So, I kept calling and that is what took the time. It took a couple of days before they got out to fix that. They should have checked everything, but they did not. But he did the same thing. He said, "Everything looks okay." I kept calling there but I couldn't get anybody to come out for a while. Other than that, my wife likes the walk-in shower.

The Safe Step rep was cute as a bug. His father owns the company and he had lived and/or gone to school just down the road from us in Virginia and it was funny to run into him in Colorado. It was a good experience. He was fine. However, I'm sure that some people need a blow-by-blow. We're fairly bright and well-read and we knew as much about the product as he did. To me, it was way too in-depth and took too long. But that was for me. He probably has to do that for a lot of older people.
The installation itself was not problematic. But we had some problems getting them here on the day that they said that they were going to be here. We had a couple of different cancellations and that's stressful when you're trying to plan your life and doctor's visits and you don't exactly know when they're going to be there. But they were very professional and they did a good job. They were kind. It took a day and a part of another day and they were very clean. They laid down tarps on the floor and were very careful. You can't live without being able to get clean. And we were having to go to the rec center. We don't live full-time in Colorado. This is our second home. That's why the shower was absolutely necessary. It dramatically had an effect on our lives as we've gotten it.

The Safe Step salesman was very good. He told us how to apply for a veteran's loan. The installers were good too. A little messy, though. The first day they were here, they left. The next day they came back, I said, "What are all these things on my windowsill?" They said, "Those are the caps to the caulk." I said, "Something that should have gone in the garbage?" But I threw them away. They were in my hand already. One rep also cut something wrong on the wall. He said, "I usually carry an extra," but he cut it wrong twice. So, they had to come back and finish the next day, which was fine because I have two bathrooms. I also called them back once too. They also had an issue with the drain and he didn't have the drain pipe. I walked down just as they were walking out the door and I came running. I made them come back 'cause they didn't cap the sewer pipe. But everything else was fine.
I love the shower. I got bad knees and it just makes it easy to get in and out. My husband is also a disabled veteran. He has dizzy spells from time to time and it is so nice to be able to know that he's safe. He fell getting into the shower and that's what started this whole process of trying to get the walk-in shower. I wanted the bench for him. But they said the VA won't pay for that. The VA won't pay for doors too because he could fall and break the door and crash through the glass. We went and bought our own bench. But they put the bars in. I was very pleased with Safe Step.

Everything about it is exactly what I wanted. It's comfortable, easy to manage, and it works fine. My daughter lives with me and she loves it too. I may eventually put a chair in. They said it can always be added if I want it.

I have a very good experience with Safe Step. The sales rep gave me a pitch and I ended up requesting it to be installed. I really like it. I enjoy taking a shower every day now. I'm really satisfied. I have a basic and there's no chair, there's no hook where you can place your hose onto it if you bring it lower. It's just two safety bars, one on each side of the entrance, and then two soap caddies, which really works out for me well. Because I'm by myself. I don't really need more than that. I'm able to grab that hose and maneuver it around my body very well.
However, after a few showers, I noticed there were a couple of slits at the very top. I wasn't sure that was by design, so I let them know that maybe somebody took a safety knife and opened the back too close to the shower curtain itself. I took photographs and he put a work order in for that to get it replaced. I was in no hurry. But when they're in the area, just drop it off.

I'm very disappointed with Safe Step. I've had to reach out to them a lot. The girl that sold it to me was great. She was very nice. The installer came and he stayed for two days. He was here from 10:00 to 5:00 the first day. The second day, he was here from 10:00 to a little after 12:00 that night. He tore the tub out. My husband had a stroke. It's the reason I had the tub taken out. The tub had jets in it, so in the closet, it had a motor that had to come out, which he disconnected but he didn't take it out. He was supposed to take it out. When he finished, he was gonna go ahead and finish taking it out and fix the two holes in the wall in there. He ended up tearing up some of my tile and he had to move the wall out further, which was okay. I could deal with that. To me, he did not know what in the world he was doing.
The job was awful. I called several times. He called me and asked me if he left his battery charger downstairs and I went down to see and I told him, "No, I don't see it. But when you come out here, you still gotta take this motor out." He said, "Yeah. I forgot to take it out. I'll be out in the morning," which would have been Saturday morning, and he didn't come. I didn't hear from him anymore. So, I called them again. Also, this piece that he put on the bottom from the wall to wall outside the shower thing, and he cut it too short. I didn't realize that the first day.
I told Safe Step, "I do not want this guy back out here. Send me somebody else." They did, and he was extremely nice. It took a week and a half for him to come out. He called me and told me who he was. He took the motor out, fixed the holes and did a beautiful job. He came in here to see what else needed to be done and he looked and he said, "Why in the world did they put this big, what I call, trim? You just need a little one at the bottom. He put white in here against the bone. I don't understand that." I told him about the seat where he sealed the corners in there, and he said, "Well, to begin with, he should have never used white. He should have used a bone color." He said it doesn't look good. I also have not gotten my cups in yet. They were back-ordered but he told me as soon as the cups get in, he will come back out and install them. Other than those, I'm satisfied and if they can get those things fixed, then I would be very satisfied.

The rep was very informative and personable. He was not pushy and he worked with us with the price. The techs who did the installation were very good. There was one challenge they hadn't anticipated but they worked around it to make it work. The installation took an extra day because the tub that they removed was a spa tub and it had a motor for jets. They had to remove that but it was fine. They were very neat and considerate of our rugs and floors. We enjoy the features of the spa. It's nonslip and very convenient. It's safe and clean. It's everything that was advertised.
When the techs installed the glass doors, they did a great job. They worked very nicely except that there's a three-quarters of an inch gap on each side. I wish they could have lined up and closed a bit better. Also, we had the most economical model but if we could have a second shelf in the corner, we would be able to share a little bit more than just the very minimal shelf in the corner with the basic unit. Other than that, the overall quality is very good.

When the Safe Step salesman made his measurements, he did not tell me that my shower was going to be four inches smaller. And now, my wife can't use it because there's no room for her to move her arms and she keeps hitting the glass door. It's very restrictive. I've contacted Safe Step and asked them if they could modify it by four inches. The pan needs to be wider and longer. But they were saying there were liability issues and they couldn't help me. I told them I'd sign any waiver they want me to but it didn't matter. So, tough stuff and I'm stuck with a shower that we can't use.
I even contacted the subcontractor and they said they'd get back to me, but that had been almost three weeks. It seems they don't want to deal with me either. I'm going to have to search for somebody who is willing to do that for me and pay the money. Other than that, the installer was very talented and he knew what he was doing. Everything looks great and the workmanship is good.

I had a leak and the installers had to come back a few days after I called them. The guy opened up the drain before he had it drained out after he turned the water off and that was what ran down in there and was running down on the ceiling and in the room underneath the bathroom. So, they didn't think anything was wrong. They said it was just water running down there and it was only the insulation dripping. But 10 days later and it was still dripping, which was when I told them. I said something wasn’t right and the guy came out and said it was something to do with the pipe down there. It was a cracked plaster or elbow where he connected it but they told me at first there wasn't any problem. Another thing was, when the installers took the old shower out, there was a shower door. The guy had the boy take it out and he must have thrown it to get it up in the truck. The shower door glass was all over my driveway and nobody said a thing about it.
We went out and didn’t notice it till we came back because my car was parked out in the front and out of the way. They were already three hours away by then and the guy was asking what he was going to do. He said he thought the boy cleaned it up. He was not gonna tell me whether he cleaned it up or not, and that they didn't see that glass when there were two of them still here. They had to both get in that truck and it was all around the truck and under it. It wasn’t like he didn't know he didn't do it, which was what kinda got me with that. I didn't expect him to come back since it was a three-hour drive each way. But I didn't expect to have that sort of thing like, "Well, whatever." Still, I like the Safe Step walk-in shower so far. But I'd still have to tell whoever I would recommend to that there are certain things they have to watch out for.

The rep was a very good salesman. He presented the Safe Step product very well, what was gonna be done, what it entailed and the quality of the equipment. The installation was very good but they were supposed to remove a base underneath the old tub and instead of doing the additional work, they just put it right back on top of the base. It annoyed me a little bit. Also, the shower curtain is almost a foot too long. I had to fold it up and flip it, and the bar where the shower curtain goes is not even. They didn't do the job right.

I love my Safe Step walk-in shower. However, during the installation, they told me I would have to wait another 8 to 10 weeks to get a new floor pan because the one they had didn't fit. When they came and put the other floor pan in, that was when everything went downhill. I'm a neat freak. The goop that they put on the second time they did it looked a little sloppier. I love the shower curtain that they gave. It has these little suction cups so you can stick it. But the goop was spread so far over that it won't stick to the rubber glue that they put on. It has to stick on to the material of the shower, not the rubber.
The name of the company is Safe Step, but it's not safe at all. I'm scared. I'm very careful when I have to go in there. It's very slippery. They sent somebody out that said, "If we put this scoop down on it, it'll make it rougher." I said, "That would be good, but I don't know what it's gonna look or feel." When the salesman came, I could look and feel a piece of it, so I felt comfortable with it. But now, they wanna put something in that I don't know how safe it's gonna be. I've left several messages for them to call me back and see if they could do something else - at least give me another option I could look at that I could feel safe in. But I can't get them to call me back.

The salesperson and the lady I spoke to the first time were intelligent and nice. They treated me like I had a brain. Sometimes, they hear an old lady on the other end and they tend to think I'm stupid. The salesperson showed me the three styles that they had, gave me the three prices, and asked me which one I wanted. I couldn't ask for anything better than that.
The installation took a week. It supposed to take two days max. A lot of it had to do with the fact that the installer wasn't based in Savannah. He was based an hour out of town. He also didn't have everything with him the first time to finish the job. You would think they knew how to do this stuff and would have everything they needed but evidently not. They came back three days later. I was without my shower for a whole week. Thank God I have three bathrooms. They still had to come back and fix a couple of things. It was leaking around the showerhead. The vanity plate that goes over the showerhead next to the wall was missing. They broke my bathroom window. Some caulking wasn't up to par. But they came back and took care of every single one of them. Now, I'm happy. I enjoy the Safe Step walk-in shower. It's wonderful.

The salesperson that I talked to was a former installer. So he kind of knew what to look for. The shower would be installed in one day. Safe Step had a person that does it routinely for them. So it was an experienced person. The installation person came and had two helpers with him. They were very neat and organized. They knew what they were doing. As far as I can see, they didn't damage anything. They were very respectful. They cut the old shower out and then they put the new shower in and reinforce the walls where it needed. Before they started cutting, I made sure they had all the right components. So this way there wouldn't be any interruptions. They completed the work in six hours and everything's been working okay since then. The workmanship was fine. Everything was even and matched up. Nothing was loose or broken. We went through everything before they left.
The Safe Step shower that I had put in was their basic model. I had put in two metal grab bars and a foldable seat. Also, the shower was more flushed against the wall. So there's more room in it than there was in the original shower. I have a shower head that's removable so that I can use it to wash myself down, and there's a separate handle that I can put it in so that if I'm sitting, it'll be reachable. I shower almost every day. The grab bars are very helpful. It minimizes the risk of falling. My oldest daughter who's a physical therapist looked at it and she said that she liked it because it had all the safety features in.
The only negative thing about Safe Step is that every little bit that you wanna do is an upcharge. For example, I have basic white walls and floor. They'll say, one that looked like a subway tile, which is really a little bit of etching that they put in at the factory, wasn't allowed. So you had to go from the $11,000 model to the $16,000 model if you wanted any small upgrades to make it a little better. So they are steering towards an upcharge or more expensive unit. But everybody's like that. When I interviewed other people, it's just the norm of the business.

The sales rep showed us everything and gave us options on what the walk-in shower would look like. We wanted to go with Safe Step because they do the wall installs for the bars to help Rob get a little bit of an easier experience while he's in there. The rep explained the dynamic of what the feel would be like. So, he was very detailed and helped us figure out what would be a little bit better for Rob in the long run. He liked the openness because he is disabled and he cannot always comprehend stuff all the time. So, he tends to repeat himself or he'll keep calling Safe Step during the day multiple times just to remember. The reps were nice to be patient with him so he liked the experience because sometimes, some people will tend to just not answer his phone calls because they already know it's gonna be the same thing.
The reps from Safe Step were nice to keep us informed about the process of when we would be expecting the walk-in shower to come in since they said that once it does, it has to be built for the space. Once it got a little bit closer, we were able to move forward. We had to do payment arrangements at the time so we talked to the reps a couple of times before they started doing the installation. There was a little bit of a delay before the installation but the installers did it all in one day. We're still having to do our floor, so we don't know exactly what the end would look like for the rest of the remodel for that bathroom. But just from the shower, it looks good.

The reps were the most kind people, when we spoke with them, and they were very professional. The cost was also below every other contractor we interviewed, and they work with the Veterans Administration. My husband is a disabled vet and Safe Step worked closely with them to get the new shower in. The installers arrived early, not on time, which was very acceptable to us. They were two Hispanic gentlemen who were very limited in the English department, but we communicated sufficiently with them when we had a question. They were very polite and steady at work. There was no goofing off, laughing, or cutting up. I was not here at lunch time, but my husband told me that at approximately 12 o'clock, they stopped their job and went out to the truck. They ate a sandwich on the back of the truck, then they came back in and got right back to work.
The two hardworking, young men stayed steady at it until 7 o'clock that night, and I cannot complain at all about the service that they did. Superior does not even begin to describe the quality of the workmanship. We did not want any of the built-in seats, but we got one corner shelf with two shelves on it. That is very nice. We got the safety bars, and they were very well installed, which was very much appreciated. We're very satisfied with it. The room in the shower is much bigger than just a bathtub shower, and it's made me a much happier person to go in there, take a shower and have plenty of room, and a nice, new, clean facility. I am in love with this new shower, and I've been telling everybody about this already.

The sales rep fom Safe Step was all right but I had wanted the tub, and I got the shower. That was a mistake there. When he came out, we discussed getting the tub. I wanted the tub, and he sold me the shower. What happened was I signed some papers, and I signed my name, but I thought I was signing for a tub. I'm in a wheelchair and I wanted the tub where I could get in and take a shower by myself. He told me to sign, but we were talking and my son was there. He told me I didn't have to put my signature and just to put my initials, which the paper said for me to put my signature there.
When the installers came out, I stayed out of the way. When they came and told me that it was finished, I went in there to the bathroom and I kept asking, "Where is the tub? Where is the tub?" They said, "Ma'am, we weren't instructed to put the tub in. We were just told to do the shower." I said, "No. I wanted the tub." He said, "But you signed for the shower. And you would have to call him." So, I did call the next day. He said, "No. You signed for the shower." He knew I wanted the tub. It was my fault too because I should have read the small writing and put my signature instead of my initials. When they came and put it out there was nothing I could do. They took down some things that I had bought on my own.
They gave me a seat. The shower was okay, but that wasn't what I wanted. I can sit, but the seat is too far back. You can't scoot the seat up. I had a shower chair that I had had before. So, that's what I use now. When I called the gentleman that sold it to me, he admitted that they were not supposed to take anything out of my house without me telling them to. They didn't ask me. I don't know if they knew what to do or not, but they took my shelf out. They took two of my bars out and everything.
The installers were very nice. My son was here, and we bought them lunch, and they came back and did it. Then they asked me could they stay longer than they had planned to because one of them was from Kingsport, Tennessee. Then he have to leave and then come all the way back. I live in Murfreesboro. So, I told them that was fine. They came about 12:00 in the morning and left about 12:00 that night. As far as the shower, they have the long handle shower brush for me to use. I have a rheumatoid arthritis, and I have it in my hands and my legs. So, I still have to have somebody help me when I take a shower. I didn't take showers. I like to take a bath. I had a shower with my other tub and that's why I wanted the walk-in tub, where I could walk in and sit down and take a bath myself.
The shower is okay, but that wasn't what I wanted. Plus, when the salesman said he would give me a tub, and I told him that I didn't want one, he said, "You mean to tell me you don't want one?" I said, "No. Because I'm not able to pay that much for a tub." If I had known the tub was gonna cost that much at first, I wouldn't have gotten it. He didn't tell me how much it was going to cost. I paid him $2,000 down and then I paid him $9,000. I gave the young man a check for $9,000 when they finished that night. I couldn't have afforded the tub, and that would have saved a lot of trouble because I would have told him right away that I couldn't afford that much.
All we talked about was the tub. We never mentioned the shower when he was selling it to me. They did reimburse me some. I had gotten a lawyer to go to him and talk to him about it. I talked to him on the phone and I told him it was partly my mistake, but it was his mistake too. The lawyer told me to call him and talk to him, which I did. If there was any trouble, got to call him back and that he would see about doing what he could. I came back and got the papers that I had. I read the contract over again. I didn't read it when he told me I didn't have to put my signature and just to put my initials, which I did. After that happened, I came back and read the contract. That was when I saw my mistake because I should have put my signature instead of my initials.

I reached out to them and the salesman came and went over everything and had some samples and took measurements. Everything went fine. Two gentlemen came for the installation, and they called me and said they were on their way. They were only here for about four hours, and they had everything done.
The only thing is there is supposed to be a fold-up seat in the shower, and when they came, they said the seat did not come. It was on backorder. So, I kept waiting and I never heard anything. A couple weeks ago, I called Safe Step. They said they'd look into it. Then the gal that was in charge of setting up my appointment called two weeks ago and said that the seat had been shipped. It's been eight weeks, and I still don't have a seat in my shower. I'm not happy about that.
I’ve used the shower since it was installed. I have an old seat from my other shower that I put in there. The shower works properly, but I have a problem with the Safe Step installer. When he first set up to install the shower, he did not cut the main water valve off in the basement, so when he went to make the connection, water went everywhere. Water came down on the ceiling in the living room, and it was on my sofa and the cushions, and we had to dry all that out. The installer said he would be back in a couple of days, which he wasn't. I had to call him and he came back, then he did some plastering. He told me to call him back within a week 'cause if it dries, it may bleed through again and he had to come back and redo it. That didn't happen.
I called the salesperson and explained to him. He said, "I'm gonna call him," then the installer came. Now, this is going on a second week. Also, I see on TV all the time, the companies have a one-day shower replacement. That's not true because they gotta have the inspector come out and check the work, and those inspectors are very busy.
My install took three days. The installer got done with a piece of the project, and an inspector had to come out. The next day, the installer did something else and an inspector had to come out and check that as well to make sure everything was good. Overall, the salesman and the installer were very pleasant, and we love the installation. We had them put a fold-down seat in there, so it's not a permanent seat, and we love that aspect of it.

I could have gone out, bought one of these things and done it myself, but I didn't feel like it. There's a good warranty as well. I was gonna get a flip down chair with the step-in shower, but Safe Step wanted 1,000. I said, “1,000 for a chair? Is it gold lined? That's a lot of money.” I went and bought my own that I can move around. It's not tied to anything. It's a shower chair made by some company, and they sell it at the pharmacy for 50 bucks instead of 1,000.

The installation went fine but the techs made a minor mistake. They connected the tub so that the hot water is on the back side instead of the left. But my wife and I figured it out and we've been using it for almost a month now. So, we're okay with that. We like everything about the walk-in shower. It made it so much easier for us to get in and out. Overall, the product is of very good quality.
