March 2011 upgraded to a RHEEM Heat Pump (15pjl42a01) and Air Handler (rhkl-hm4821ja) with a larger rated SER level and performance factor every 4-6 months since the system goes DEAD. Leaking valves, leaking evaporator coils, blown protection valve and now a shorted compressor.....all fixed under warranty, but the Rheem Warranty team has never replied to the website posting..... Tried customer service and got a reply from Troy ** (479-648-4900) who passed me along to their distributor on warranty items, as the backlog of parts was very time consuming.....

This product is not a quality build or a quality design. The operating costs far exceed the previous unit and the service calls are expensive due to the Warranty not covering FREON loss or the Labor to remove the defective RHEEM products and install warranty parts..... Very disappointed with Rheem...... Will move over to their competitor on the next failure.....expecting that will be Sept - November of 2014.....

Bought a Rheem water heater in Feb 2012. After 11 months Jan 2013 thermocouple went out. Replaced no charge. Feb 2014 thermocouple goes out again. Will ship the part to me but I need to pay labor. I was told by a Rheem rep the new part has been redesigned but Rheem was not covering labor even though it affect all the water heaters they make. Very angry and disappointed in Rheem product and customer service. At this point labor cost for repair is $95.00 a hour. A lot of money for a unemployed person!!!

Since the purchase of our furnace in 2009, we have had at least two times each year where the furnace stops working and shows code 5/7. We know how to fix the problem...by blowing out the small Orange rubber tubing, but it keeps happening. We have complained to our furnace guy. He said the company knows of the problem but has not come up with a permanent fix. We feel this is a design/ workmanship problem and we should get a new different furnace. Isn't there a lemon law for furnaces? We have been lucky enough to be home each time the furnace fails, but what happens if the pipes freeze because we are not? Sincerely a permanent fix needs to be given or a new product/ furnace now. We have waited 4 years.

I was told the warranty started in 2010 and is only valid till 2015. How is that even legal, that means the warranty started before I bought it, can they do that? If so how?

Had a water heater installed approx. 3 months ago. 3 weeks ago it started tripping the circuit breaker. After inspection, we found the insulation around the lower heating coil was soaked so had the lower heating coil replaced and dried everything out. Last week it started doing it again. Upon closer inspection they found the tank was leaking higher up and was irreparable. When I spoke with Rheem customer service I requested to speak with the service rep's supervisor/manager who told me in a flat tone that while Rheem would cover the part and materials they did not have to cover the cost of labor. When asked why I should have to cover the labor cost to replace a 3 month old unit that only needs replacing due to a fault that is their responsibility, I was given the same flat-toned scripted response. I assured them if Rheem was not going to be flexible enough to work with its customers when the cost should rightly fall to them then I would not waste another cent with them and ensure anyone I encountered knew why.

All work done by a licensed/certified/bonded contractor that I've done business with for many years and has an impeccable reputation. This is not my first encounter with Rheem but it is also nothing different. I'm usually a forgiving person but things like repetitive bad customer service stick with me for a long time and though this incident may cost me a couple hundred dollars I will do my best to ensure it cost them as much as possible in lost customers. My advice? Avoid Rheem products at all cost.

RPMC 060JAZ Heat pump 10 SEER R22 15 yrs old - I have been researching/replacing this system because 3 leaks were found. 1 in the "A" coil upstairs, 1 in the coils outside and one where the over pressure valve had been replaced 1 1/2 years ago. The only other repairs I have had to do on the system are 1) fan and start-up capacitor, 2) compressor start-up capacitor and 3) relay (twice). I mentioned I had the overpressure switch replaced due to failure. Other than the overpressure switch I replaced all other parts and I kept the system maintained except for every 3rd year I had an A/C company come and do a check up so they could check freon level.

The first 7 years the system was trouble free, wash the lint and debris off the coils outside, keep the blower clean upstairs and keep the filters clean till the outside unit fan died. Replaced the fan, start-up capacitor and the compressor start-up capacitor and relay myself. Had no trouble until year 13 when the overpressure switch went bad. Please NOTE: every 3rd year there was a slight top off of R22 of about 1 lb. Not bad. That is an average. Now in year 15, I need about 12 lbs and 3 leaks fixed with no guarantee that 2 of them can stay fixed due to their location and my system being a heat pump and the temp variations. They tried to sell me on Carrier. I have researched Carrier and they are tops in SEER rating, but I am finding out not good with the customer. But also have found that to be true with some of the complaints on all of them, but found Rheem to have the least complaints.

Most of the complaints I have read deal with they will not cover the lost freon on warranty repair. I have researched every company for 2 days now and NONE of them do. The customer has to pay for the freon for warranty repairs as I have done in the past so accept it, and move on as it is policy of all companies I have researched if it has been in place for a year as most of the complaints I have read indicate. I am thinking 90% about sticking with Rheem as I had good luck with it but the unit I have is not made anymore. Still more research to do.

Tankless water heater model # RMTG-74 PVN-2 - For the past several months we have been having issues with our Richmond tankless water heater. Our hot water is intermittent. It will start to work then shut off and produce only cold water. We have done all the preventive maintenance required, replaced a gas line, and had a plumber clean the burner unit. The water heater worked for about a month after she cleaned the burner, then the same problem occurred again, always a c2-11 error. Tech support sent us a new burner unit, which we had installed only to have the problem continue. I just got off the phone with tech support again and went through the diagnostic procedure again. I couldn't get the problem to replicate and tech support told me that I didn't have a problem because it is working and if the problem happens again I should call them when it happens wtf!!!!

While talking to tech support the hot water quit finally and she told me that it was my problem because they sent me a new burner unit and that should have fixed the problem or it was the gas company's fault. This water heater worked perfectly for four years and worked fine for a month after the burners were cleaned, but now it's a gas problem. We have other gas appliances and all are working fine. I didn't do a lot of research before we went with a tankless water heater and that is my fault, but hopefully someone is reading this now and will avoid Rheem/Richmond. Don't buy one of these or any of their products for that matter.

I purchased my unit from a certified Rheem dealer and he has since retired. We no longer have a Rheem dealer in my community so I will have to pay a $179 travel fee for someone to come to my house to look at my unit, and then AGAIN when they come to repair it IN ADDITION TO the labor to replace the coil that is leaking, AND the Freon that has to be replaced making my "warranty" work around $1500 (minimum). Sheesh! This is a $5,000 unit that has only been in service since 4-25-2011, and I have already had to pay to have the Freon replaced on August 31, 2012 at a cost of $389. So, my "energy saving" unit will have cost me almost $2,000 to run for 2 summers. We replaced a 25 year old unit that ran great but wasn't "energy efficient". From other complaints that I have read from all over the internet, this seems to be a recurring problem with Rheem. My advice, do NOT buy a Rheem!!

This water heater was installed in my new home by the building contractor's plumber for around $800.+. I had no control as to the choice. It recently stopped working and I had a friend who is a certified heating and air conditioner contractor. He said that the heater is leaking from the top and fills up the blower and shuts off the exhaust. There as a safety will not turn on the burner. He removed the water from the blower and the heater worked for two weeks. Loaded up with water again. I never was given a copy of the warranty, so I did not know about the six years expected life on this expensive heater. I have had two other homes and never had a water heater that did not last 15 to 20 years and they did not cost $800+.

I called Rheem, but warranty is no more, which would not have made any difference, from what I read from others that had the same model 41VRP4ON, and got no response. My heater has been fixed again and is expected to run for another two weeks, until the blower fills up again. When I finally give up on it, the service man says he is going to take it apart and expects poor welding by the manufacturer where the pipes goes into the top. No heater would leak from the top in less that 6 years if it was properly put together and inspected. I will certainly let my contractor as well as the others know about this brand, in order that others are not cheated out of their money!

I wanted to replace a 30yr old RUUD hot water heater. Found out Rheem now owns Ruud. I tried to buy a Rheem out of loyalty and NO local dealers would sell me one without installing it. I found one on Amazon and got free shipping on it. It arrived in great condition. I installed it and sure enough the anode rod cap was cracked through the threads and leaked. This was caused by the suspended weight during shipping. Rheem refused to warranty the part, said it was not a part they warrantied. Unreal, I contacted Amazon and they said they would refund the purchase price for the part. They did (I love Amazon). After 3 years my daughter turned up the tank to midway (C) on the thermostat. Within 2 days the top of the tank sunk in 2" and made it too dangerous to continue using it.

After several calls and pictures sent to Rheem they agreed to warranty it (good til 2018). The only problem was NO dealer would handle warranty claim because they didn't install it. I contacted Rheem again with no response. I then filed a Better Business Bureau complaint for a full refund due to the fact I had to drive 50 miles and buy another brand tank to install so my family would have hot water. Rheem again played their delay game and wanted to start the warranty exchange process all over again. I replied I do not want a tank, I have one. I want a refund. They refused.

Rheem has to have the worst customer service in the entire business world. NEVER BUY A RHEEM PRODUCT. They operate with the totally outdated dealer network business model to fix prices and make it impossible to get a warranty. Even if you have their dealer install the unit there will be much cost involved to have them warranty repair anything. Terrible management people at RHEEM.

The cost to me at this point is over $1800 from their techs out of Denver and plumbers in the Greeley area trying to fix them. Rheem sent one new unit out but not enough pipe to install, and then I was informed that I was going to have to tear out part of my finished home to install and they wanted me to install the 1st unit before they replaced the 2nd. What a mess, and thousands to install. Now the head tech at Rheem, Mr. Daniel **, has been dragging this out; he's not returning phones and doing nothing to help me. He's not even giving me an answer to what they will do.

I am so sick of this. So very much money to buy and install at the start and now there is no hot water and more and more costs, all because Rheem 1st tankless system and venting was not right, so you, the homeowner, must figure out how to get hot water in the home where there is no place/room to install, no electric or water or gas lines to change to some other type of heat. Just tear down a new home and pay thousands of dollars to get hot water.

A 50 gallon, lowboy, electric hot water heater (Rheem model #R82SV502526027) was installed in October 2012. Hot water runs out after 15 minutes in a shower with no other appliances running in the house. The installing plumber checked it out and said all was okay. My former 50 gallon hot water heater (23 years old) never ran out of hot water, even when a washing machine or dishwasher and shower were running at same time. Rheem customer service said it was "normal" for this to happen and refused to send out a service technician to check out the unit. The plumber said he can't do anything else and he has not had this complaint from other customers (which indicates something is wrong with mine).

Rheem said a 50 gallon unit only has 35 gallons of hot water at a time (using 70%) because new, cold water is filling the tank as the hot water empties out. Showers use 2.5 gallons per minute. So at 14 minutes, I should run out of hot water. But I take a warm shower, not a hot one! I am not using all 35-50 gallons of hot water at one time! It infuriates me that Rheem won't consider that their product is defective and send out a rep to look at my unit. I do not recommend Rheem and will never purchase their products again.

In winter, I noticed that furnace kicks in directly in the second stage and never works in the first stage. It is too noisy and heat variations are high. I tried for 3 months to determine the contractor to come and fix the issue. It was not an emergency, but the unit was under warranty and did not do what was supposed to do. After 3 months, the contractor comes and tries to call the dealer in order to get support from them as the contractor did not know what to do (despite the fact it seems a very simple setting). I took 2 days off, and every day the contractor cannot reach the dealer's technician despite the fact that this was scheduled in advance.

I was frustrated and tried to send a complaint directly to Rheem. I filled in their contact form (there is no way to contact them via phone) and wrote a long note venting my frustration and bad experience with the whole chain. And at the end, when I tried to submit, it didn't go through. I tried 6 times and every time, it failed without telling me what the error is. So in the end, there is no one to contact at Rheem to explain the situation, and how the dealer and the contractor and possibly the quality of their product affect their reputation. In the end, I am a very unhappy Rheem customer, and I would never ever recommend someone to buy a Rheem product due to the overall experience I had with all 3 entities involved (producer/dealer and contractor).

Rheem he80-130n commercial water heater - I own a restaurant in Phoenix and your water heater was nothing but trouble for me. It's a real hunk of junk. The unit was very expensive to begin with and was only 2 years old when the first igniter went out. Now, when the unit was 3 and a half years old, the igniter went out again and blew the main board. We replaced blown igniter again and blown board again. The plumber I had working on it said the unit was poorly designed. I can't believe what a hunk of junk this unit is. On top of that, I could not buy parts on the west coast. I had to have them shipped next day from Boston. It really is bad business to have a product that you can't even get parts for. A restaurant can't run without hot water, so it needs to be easy to repair. But to only last for 3 years and cost $6,000 is totally unacceptable. That I put $900 in parts and the unit still only worked for a couple of days is crap!

So I had to take your unit out and replace it with another one, which cost me a lot of time and money ($5,000). It also caused my business to suffer from having to close kitchen because of your faulty product design. You would think for all that money this unit would work much better than it does. For the igniter to blow and destroy the motherboard, that’s a poor design. I believe your company should refund me part of the cost of the unit for it being such a piece of crap, or at least for the parts that I purchased and the labor to install them. I purchased a Rheem Paloma tankless water heater in November 2012. The unit had a bent exhaust pipe right out of the box. The seller sent a replacement and I contracted with a plumbing company to install the unit. Additional parts were required just to adhere to basic code requirements. The unit oozed an oily substance and the power quit halfway through a cycle (fun times when taking a shower). They said to send the fail code and I have not heard anything back for more than 10 days (I had included photos also). The unit also emitted an oily substance that beaded up and so now I'm reluctant to use it at all. Not having a potable water source in a suburban home is a real downer. I'm taking water samples to the County Water Health Department tomorrow to see what substance is in the water.

The installer I hired has now passed on doing anything further, left the job, cleaned up his mess and waived his installation fee for fear that he might be linked to this product. Rheem has admitted that the unit is not in production and out of warranty. It's another reason to never buy things like this on eBay. Based on the other posts on this site, Rheem is displaying behavior that needs to be well publicized to avoid rewarding this kind of corporate behavior to those of us in the consuming public. Rheem has a list of other tankless units posted that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and mine does not yet fall within that list.

I had to spend more than $2,000.00 for a 3 years old unit in repair labor and R-410A. The unit had the reversion valve replaced before (only parts are covered by the Rheem warranty), more than a year ago, and now it needs the txv to be replaced. The unit was still leaking R-410A according to one HVAC technician that recharged the unit couple times. The contractor (Rolph HVAC from Seaford, Delaware) that installed our heat pump does not do business with Rheem, according to the owner/representative, because of bad experiences with that company.

When I talked with the customer service representative from Rheem to complain about our heat pump, she said that Rheem will replace the part that is on warranty, but labor costs are between the customer and the installer. I had to explain to her that because of a defective unit from her company (Rheem), I had to spend money every year on repairs for a new unit that is only 3 years old and that should not be that way. This unit should be working without any issues for many years and should not be like what it is now, a money waster. The customer representative was helpless, and she referred me back to the company (who are making money out of this situation, of course) that installed the unit. This is not right - selling and installing defective units so the customer have to pay for repairs and labor for a brand new cheap Chinese heat pump unit. I will never buy a Rheem product again since they have these cheap Chinese defective new products and bad customer service.

Rheem 80,000 BTU heat pump - I purchased a complete HVAC package two years ago through an installer in my area (Loveland, Ohio). The product is a high efficiency Rheem. Almost immediately and continuing today, the heat pump shuts down because of condensation working its way into a vacuum line that monitors the gas valve. I have been told that this problem is particular to Rheem (and they are aware), but have not corrected the problem. I tried submitting my problem and complaint to Rheem on their website but when I press the submit button, nothing. The comments go nowhere. I have turned the gas valve a 180 degrees on its bracket so the tube has a slight back flow. I'm hoping this helps eliminate the problem. I will never purchase another Rheem product again.

I have a Rheem Power Vent model 41VRP50N that was OEM for my house built in 2006. The unit failed for the first time (six months outside warranty) in late August 2012. My wife called a Rheem designated repairman; after three hours stumbling through troubleshooting that he was being coached to do by cell phone, he told my wife that the integrated gas valve/controller had failed, and gave her an estimate of $1,680 to replace it. I stalled for time, downloaded troubleshooting info (pretty good and readily available) and called Rheem customer support (little or no wait, English as a first language and knew their stuff) and after two hours, discovered: the gas valve/controller had indeed failed, but you can buy one for $300-$450 and an inexperienced person can replace it an about an hour and a half.

Actually, as far as the $1,680 repair quote was concerned, you can buy an entire new heater for $1,455. Can you say repair fraud? Here's the persistent problem: The gas valve/controller, made by Robertshaw Controls is a POS. I've since had two replacements fail, each within two weeks of installation. Rheem, to their credit, has helped me validate the failures, warrantied the part both times and had a no-charge replacement at my door in 36 hours. Unfortunately, even if this last one is finally good, it'll be a year before I get up in the morning and not worry whether or not we'll have hot showers.

One month after installation, there was no hot water, an element burned out and our plumber replaced it. Then a couple months later - no hot water again. For three weeks, we have been without hot water. We've called Rheem/Rudd maybe 20 times. They've sent out their own Rheem certified plumber to check it. He replaced some parts. We still have no hot water - three weeks and counting. BTW - I'm six months pregnant and can't sterilize dishes, wash clothes, etc. Every time I talk to Rheem/Ruud, they tell me it's not the hot water heater, yet their plumber says it is the hot water heater. Now they asked us to do our own tests on the machine! They don't want to send out another plumber. The customer service is terrible! The heater is under warranty - they don't care. All they care about is spending money to send out a plumber. It's horrible. We are just so unhappy with the service. Still today, we have no hot water.

Failure in 5 years and 10 Months and a 6-year warranty not honored: The Rheem water heater was installed when the house was finished in July 2006. The water heater failed in May 2012, having rusted through the bottom. The product was designed to fail shortly after the warranty date. Water heaters used to be considered durable goods, and that level of quality needs to be our expectation, given the nature and cost of the product.

Rheem confirmed that the unit was still covered under warranty. However, the warranty terms and the procedure for replacement are unconscionable to the point where it would be more cost-effective to replace the unit at your own expense. So, we have a non-durable good and a difficulty to enforce warranty. Both of these conditions are illustrative of failure (and indicative of our national culture, which encourages corporate theft through planned obsolensce).

I have sent a certified letter to Rheem on these issues and concerns. Let's see if the company will stand by its products. The reviews on this site and others don't give me much hope in this regard.

It lasted 30 months, and died with what turns out to be a common problem with the valve. The installing contractor sent the repair over to a Rheem specified service organization, who was not very responsive. Sure, just wait 5 minutes for it to start ignition failure recycling every 2 minutes. Finally he saw that, went and got the part, and fixed it. I just got the bill. 3 hours at $125 (should be one hour) and $356 for the "Smart Valve". Sure it's smart for Rheem and the repair guy. I purchased/installed a 40 gal GE hot water tank from Home Depot just 1 month ago. It's a model SE40M12AAH, w/12-year warranty, and while it's a GE brand believe the mfg is Rheem.

When the top element is "on" the tank makes a loud hissing noise and you can almost hear it heating the water. This noise is constant when the hot water was just used, or is running. I can't even stand to work down my basement anymore because of this obnoxious unbearable noise. Sure am glad it's not installed on a first floor living area.

I called GE/Rheem technical support and the rep asked me what kind of water supply I have? I told him well water but it's filtered, doesn't have any iron/sulfur/minerals, and is as clear as spring water.

He told me the the top element probably has sediment built up on it and I need to remove it/clean with beach. I told him I've lived here for 26 years, have had 3 hot water tanks, and none of them ever made this loud noise. I also asked how sediment would build up on the top element since if there is any it would build up at the bottom of the tank? He said I will still need to pull the element out and clean w/bleach. I asked him what tool I needed and he said I need a 1 1/2" deep-well socket to remove the element or a plumber's element removal tool. Think this is called a element winch. Regardless, I don't have one and he told me I will need to get one.

The tech did say he would send me a "complementary" replacement top element.

I can't believe after just 1 month of use I'm expected to work on this new hot water tank. Should I expect this every month??

I purchased the more expensive 12 -month warranty hot water tank since I thought it would be better and last longer. It's already turning into a nightmare and wish now I wouldn't have gone with GE/Rheem.

In looking over the warranty there is a 1-year full warranty where they are supposed to send someone out to replace defective parts free of charge. I sure wasn't offered this service and I saw nowhere in the warranty where they mentioned well water may be a problem. It sure wasn't with the other tanks I had including 2 which were Rheem brands.

It should also be noted this tank is listed as a "self-cleaning tank" so how could any "sediment" be building up on the elements already?

They sure don't build them like they used to. I also miss the exterior bottom thermostat control knob for turning down the temp up/down as needed, or down when you are on vacation. Now you have to remove the bottom thermostat cover, and insulation, to turn the temp up/down with a screwdriver.

I've yet to contact Home Depot on these hot water tank problems and it will be interesting to see what they say.

It's kind of ironic Home Depot raised the price on this tank to $366 from $319 a month ago. Nothing like paying $47 more for a hot water tank I'm already having problems with after 1 month of use.

The hot water heater is 15 months old. It no longer works and is under warranty, but for parts only. That should say enough! But the story goes on; we are required to pay labor hours to a plumber to stay on the phone with tech support at Rheem. Oh, and let's see, Rheem decides it is the part the plumber already knows and then they mail only half of the required parts. Oh, and then it is Saturday, and they don't ship and then when we get this part on Tuesday (remember this is under warranty). Still doesn't work, the tech support's answer is that now we need a "blower". Guess What? Your customer who still has a warranty hasn't had hot water for 5 days!

Economic harm? I am paying for the labor. So far, it is in exceeds of $300.00 for something under warranty. And, I actually do have a professional job, and who would think that are health reasons to have no water for days after installing a hot water heater only one year ago. For a well known company, with what I thought was a good reputation. They actually suck!

I had a new Rheem 4 ton heat pump installed at my personal residence in April 2010. Less than two months later, the unit fractured the bleed line from the condenser orifice. I had it repaired costing 481 dollars. No parts were changed, just the line repaired and 15 lbs of freon. This line vibrates badly when the compressor starts and will probably break again if something is not done. I talked to Rheem and they had nothing to say about. I have heard of many other units with the same problem.

On April 28th, our hot water tank burst. The tank was only four years old. The tank was purchased from Home Depot. After talking to GE/Rheem, they decided to replace the tank since the tank actually burst from inside and was not an overflow problem. The tank was a top of line 50 gal 12-year tank. Since the tank didn't even last a third of its guaranteed life, I called Rheem to see what compensation they would provide. After getting the blah blah runaround, I finally was put in touch with Daniel. He stated that it would be "morally wrong to provide any compensation for their faulty tank." I then asked to be connected with someone who had the authority to resolve my problem in my favor. I was directed to a Philip who was not available.

The next day, he left a message saying he was calling to hopefully resolve the issue. When I recalled Rheem, he has on every following call been unavailable and has not called either my cell phone or home number. If this same situation happened to the president of the company, I know for sure that he or she would have had the problem taken care of, no questions asked and certainly at no cost to their selves. If the rule is no help, then I know someone further up the corporate can make the decision to make an exception to the rule ruling. I am not necessarily looking for a large amount of money, simply, that as a good corporate citizen, they would cover the install cost of the replacement tank after three and a half years. Both Home Depot and GE/Rheem had the opportunity to do the "morally" right thing and come up with at least some cost covering expense.

Pilot light goes out at least twice a year. It finally refused to stay lit longer than one minute. Plumber looked at it and said, "Yeah, you're going to have to call Rheem to get the warranty validated". They got some type of safety sensor in there. In order to validate the warranty, Rheem tech support requires me to "remove a safety feature and send it in", and if it is bad, they will send me another one.

So, what do I do about no hot water for four days, while we mail this, and mail that around? Did you ever try telling a nurse that there's no hot water for her? Do you know what part of the bear is sore? I think that this is just a really neat way for Rheem to avoid any warranty coverage that they have.

Hey Rheem, you want to run a business right? Send the sensor out first and require the old one be returned. Or better still, how about some reps that can fix your junk? This is just one more prime example of how bad business has got in the US in the last five years. You'll never get me to buy one of these, or a rude, again.

Please be advised that I am requesting your assistance concerning what I feel to be a defective GE/Rheem hot water heater. Also my licensed plumber does not accept Rheems answer of pressure issues for many reasons. First, there are no other pressure issues within the entire house. Second, all homes in the area have same pressure and I've discussed this matter with my neighbors, and the utility company and no one else has reported pressure issues to the St. Lucie County Water and Utilities. I would hope that you as a company they would want to investigate this matter beyond a few pictures sent via the internet.

I've purchased a replacement and this morning, my licensed plumber installed the replacement. He again today called Rheem and stated that within his 40 years of experience he's only seen this happen once before and it was on a much older model and make of hot water heater. Rheem ignored his explanation and requested for a Rheem representative to investigate beyond a few pictures. We asked this not only for warranty issues but for the safety of other consumers. I would think they (GE/Rheem) would want to investigate for their company's liability and I truly feel I have a faulty and defective product.

You have been sent numerous pictures of our defective hot water heater. As you can see from the photo the bottom of #1102B24278 has expanded from the bottom causing the copper tubing to actually be lifted up. I have been trying since Friday March 12 to seek resolution. Today at 2:45 pm, my plumber spoke to Jose and since that time, I've been calling (cell phone usage) and emailing pics today alone for two hours, not to mention paying for a plumber. I would appreciate your assistance before the pipes burst and flood my garage and/or house.

Rheem authorized a replacement tank, but I had to pay over $200 for the installation.

Last week, March 12, 2010, the second failed exactly as the first one, with water pouring out the vent on top of the unit. I called Rheem as the unit is only 3 months out of warranty. They refused to replace the unit under warranty and would not acknowledge a manufacturer defect, which I believe is the case. Both units have a manufacture date of February 2003.

They insisted that it was my fault, as I had not had an annual inspection of the anode rod. They were arrogant and rude and refused to investigate the possibility of a manufacturer defect. I purchased a Rheem heat pump in May of 2008. All summer I had no problem with the air coditioning, but, as soon as I started using the heating system, I had problems. I called the original contractor that installed the system, E. Wrenn Heat/Air, Scott **. He tried several times over the winter to fix the problem, to no avail. My problem was that the external fan was making a terrible rattling sound and I kept getting a horrible smell through the vents (dirty sock syndrome).

Finally, after consulting with a local Rheem tech., they came to the conclusion that certain parts needed to be replaced. After weeks of waiting and several phone calls about it, I was told by Scott, that he couldn't get cooperation from anyone and they kept telling him that the part hadn't come in. By this time winter was over, so, I decided not to push the issue right now, because even if they did fix it, I wouldn't know til next winter when I used he system. Of course by the next winter, around November 2009, the problem started again.

Again I called Scott. He again tried to look into the problem. Very shortly after that, my external fan totally quit working and nothing but ice cold air was coming through the vents. The only way I could get heat was to use the emergency heat strips. I knew this would run my electric bill up, but, I had no choice. By this time I was dealing with Rheem directly. Problem is they kept giving me the run around and putting me off. Meanwhile, my electric bill more than doubled, of which I cant afford to pay.

Finally, now that this winter is about over, on 2/17 they had another contractor to come out and replace the parts that they thought was causing the problem. Everything worked fine until 3/3, when I started having the same problems that I had originally had. I, of course, called David the next day, no answer, as usual. Finally got him on 3/5, and he said he would have the new contractor get in touch with me right away to come back out. Another week went by and no word from anyone.

Finally on 3/11, I called David. He returned my call app. 5.30 pm. He proceeded to tell me that I had two options. Either let Brian come out again and check things out and they would pay for that, or they will replace the system, but, I would be responsible for getting and paying someone to install it. I agreed to let Brian come out for now, but, it is not acceptable that if unit needs replacing that I have to pay a penny more to have it installed. I don't have that kind of money. I need someone to completely fix the problem now.

I also has talked to David about getting some compensation on my high electric bill, but, he told me that there was no way they would do that. Again, not acceptable. My electric bill would have never gone that high if I had had a system that worked properly. It's not my fault that their system was faulty. I think they should be held responsible.

So I contacted Rheem with a bill from the plumber to unhook the old water heater and install the new one and to and from travel for the exchange. I sent the bill in figure having the rug shampooed and the cleanup and throwing out water/rust damaged stuff and the told me a 12-year water heater is 1 year parts and labor and an 11-year prorated exchange policy unless you have pictures of the heater where the seam burst on the tank and an engineer do an analysis proving the product failed.

We were told we needed to diagnose the heater with device from a home improvement store, report results, and they would ship us the correct part. This was such a strange way of handling warranty repairs. We assumed that maybe we had reached the number authorized service providers use to resolve warranty issues. I called Bob, agent # **, this morning with my request for in-home service as stated under the 6-year limited warranty where customer pays for the parts and customer pays for the labor which I attached to an email. He said I needed to get a multi-meter to test which part was out. He suspected it was either a heating element or the thermostat. Once I used the multi-meter and diagnosed, I was to call him back and they would send out the part I needed for me to install.

He said they only provided warranty service by shipping out the parts and would not cover the parts under warranty if a service tech came to our house and replaced the part. Two weeks after the full year warranty ran out in early Dec. 2009, the water heater developed a problem with the gas valve. The pilot would not stay lit. I tried appealing to both Home Depot and Rheem to honor the 1-year warranty as the failure occurred immediately after the full warranty had expired. I was told by both I was covered for parts not labor.

My wife made some phone calls and was able, after great effort, to get Rheem to cover the labor which was great; however, the parts took two days to arrive. I was without hot water for a total of 4 days. My main beef is with the quality of the product and the surly and unhelpful people at Rheem Customer Service. A water heater should last for years without service.

I had a Sears Kenmore water heater in my previous home from which I got 20 years of trouble free service before it failed. I was told by a service technician who works for an independent Rheem dealer and service center that gas valves on Rheem water heaters fail routinely. You'd think Rheem would get a clue and fix that issue. Rheem's customer service people are unfriendly and much less than helpful. They are not empathic to the plight of a customer who has gone days without hot water.

I found out after several calls when asking for the name of the person who had helped me on a previous call that there are 3 call centers that answer the same 1-800 number. The customer service representative would tell me there is no person at this call center with that name. I was told that information as if I should have known it. Rude, surly, condescending and arrogant are suitable descriptions. I will never buy another Rheem product.

Rheem refuses to accept responsibility for the heater not working, claiming the enviroment around the heater is too dirty for the unit to operate properly in. The heater is in my basement in the same location a previous gas water heater that operated with no problem for 13 years. Rheem has installed a shut off damper through which all air must past to the burner for safety reasons. I propose the damper membrane holes are too small and become easily plugged which blocks off the air supply. I paid over $1000.00 for their product and am not at all happy with not having water for 5 days and the poor customer service. Rheem also told me that they do not have Senior technical support operators on the weekends. So I guess if you have a problem with your water heater you'd better hope it happens on a weekday. I also feel that since they are aware that they will not be able to ship parts on the weekend, that when a consumer calls on a day that falls close to the weekend(in my case a Thursday)that they should send a plumber the same day, to assess the problem, and then the part can be shipped immediately not after the weekend. When calling Rheem also be prepared to wait on hold for a long time. Both times that I called I was placed on hold for over 27 minutes.

No damage just huge inconveniences. I had to boil water for myself and my daughter to take a bath. Could not launder certain clothes. had to boil water to wash dishes

Rheem water heater was installed on 02/10/06. in April 2008 my water heater destroyed a room with a leaking hose, now in May 2008 there's no hot water and no water pressure. Called the representative and he said to replace the unit and keep the labels on the unit. No further information was given.

$4500 worth of damage to the house.

My home had a Rheem Hot water heater,

years later, the unit leaked, and required replacement. Since the failure was within the 6 year warranty, Alabama
Power (my electric supplier) provided me

    This heater was defective

I have recently found out about a now-explored class-action law suit regarding failed dip-tubes in water heaters. We had our Rheem water heater installed 12/31/98 by Flat-Rate Plumbing in Kenosha, WI. (They told me the water heater was guaranteed forever.) They charged me $l000.00 - I guess because it was New Years Eve. We have almost no hot-water pressure in the bathroom and very low pressure in the other taps in the house. When I read about the class-action suit, it was WAY too late. Was I supposed to be notified by Rheem or the plumber of the lawsuit? I never was. What can I do? Also, was (is) there any physical danger to the particles in the drinking water?
