Sure, it's got a 10 year warranty. But who cares? Shouldn't have to deal with so many issues 2 years in. We know where this crap is manufactured. No one should be surprised, just warned.

You should have just said "Our Bad" and brought out a new complete tank this weekend. I assure you I will make it my goal to let anyone and everyone know to avoid your pro.

I have had bad experience with big companies before, but not as bad as I have with Rheem. Warranty is as bad as it can get. I have been waiting for a coil replacement because the one that came in with the unit is leaking freon after 7 years of being used. I still have 3 more years of warranty and Rheem has not backed up the warranty. Customer service is as worse as they come. It is a shame that they have had such a good reputation and it has come to not backing up their warranty promise.

If I could give Rheem a 0 I would have. Their products are no good, especially their hot water tanks. I have had so many problems with their gas water heater and all Rheem wants to do is troubleshoot it over the phone. And when that fails they want to keep sending you different parts to fix the issue instead of a new one. Mind you the customer has to pay someone to come out each time to change a part. It makes no sense..! And customer service is the worst of them all, there is always a wait time over 1 hour and 15 minutes and more. I believe they want you to get discouraged by the long wait time so you can hang up. I've been on hold now (while writing this review) 1 hour and 17 minutes 28 seconds.. This is ridiculous....

I've bought a brand new HVAC unit for my house, which Rheem offers a 10 yrs warranty. After the 4th year I had a capacitor failed, which although they paid for the part the labor was over $200. Also had coil rusting out and leaking all the freon, coils were out of stock for 2 weeks and would cost me thousands in labor, so I'm at my second repair, $700 each, and Rheem called me after a BBB claim to read me their warranty. Awful service and disposable quality. Won't ever buy this manufacture again...

The first Rheem product I ever purchased was a water softener (Model RH542). I bought it online, I unfortunately had no idea what the informational screen was like. Of course, most of us don't generally consider the digital information screen when buying something like a water softener. Well, lessoned learned. It's unimaginable that any product oversight group could review the size of the fonts used on the information screen and walk away thinking they were sized correctly. Particularly given the size of the area they had to work with for the screen. The letters are so small and with a terribly backlight (who puts a black font on a dark grey background!), that they are absolutely unreadable.

The font size used is so small and what looks to be a "narrow" font selection, that it's almost as if they made the conscious decision to make it horrifically difficult for the customer to read. I've left of photo of the screen which was taken from exactly one foot away. Totally unreadable and I have 20/20 vision! It's criminal they can sell something so obviously deficient for such an important part of the unit.

Then in December of 2024 more failures totaling another $1200. The worst part is we have been without heat going on 2 months during the coldest winter in years! They are still "waiting on the part". Any calls to to Rheem to get a status on the part have been answered with silence. Now we are starting to be worried if it will even be fixed by summer when the temperatures hit 98 degrees. So, thanks Rheem for keeping my family frozen during the winter! And here's hoping we don't die of heat stroke since I imagine you still won't be able to get any replacement parts by summer.

I have experienced three failures since installation ... the last one being an evaporator coil failure with a repair charge of $1500. After the last failure I researched Rheem quality and discovered they've had a long history of evaporator coil failures. There were also references to supply chain quality issues coming out of the COVID shutdowns. With that, I reached out to the company (in writing twice) to see if there was anything they could do to help me. The result ... absolutely no response to either communication. Quality issues and poor customer service is a lethal combination.

We lost our air conditioning and was told we needed a new compressor. The service tech that came out, dug a little deeper and found that the wires on the outside unit had charring which indicated overheating and possibly could’ve started a fire. By this time the compressor had already been paid for. Upon further inspection it turned out that spot in the fuse box was not only the wrong spot for the breaker but also the wiring inside the breaker box also showed burning/ charring for which the technician promptly went outside the scope of his duties and fixed the problem while also relocating the breaker to the more appropriate spot in the box. It turns out that we only owed 800$ for the addition of a surge protector on the air conditioning unit as opposed to the 2,800$ for a compressor.

Now, why would that cost this much? At the initial install of the unit a parts warranty was offered but not a labor warranty which for some reason is separate one from the other! Had it been offered I would’ve gotten it. When looking at the credit card statement the charge for the compressor that we didn’t need is still listed and the difference between the surge protector the two was not and has not been credited? The technician who was named Cecil did an outstanding job in his efforts to solve the main problem to which the company had been out to service three times before. And, he did this on his day off. How do I know it was his day off? Dispatch told me so! I’m being shafted and I shouldn’t have to tolerate such blatant disregard as a client.

It is amazing the extent this fly by night company go to not to stand behind their product. This great sounding warranty that entices families to spend the extra $$$ for a unit that is less efficient than other heaters in that price range is absolutely worthless. I personally purchase many of these products annually——and from this day forward I will never purchase anything associated with this brand or its subsidiaries period.

I wish I could go back and return all of my previous purchases and use a quality product with real warranty that works as advertised instead of dealing with this inferior company. Rheem should get into politics the way they lie and mislead the public. $3000 for a water heater that lasts 2 years? That's a lot of money for something heading to a landfill. RHEEM no longer holds up to their name, unfortunately. My home has two AC units as my next door neighbor does too. We had all four (4) RHEEM units installed within the same week by same company in Sep 2020. Three (3) years later, my 4ton compressor broke. Yes, under warranty but still cost me $2500 to fix. Neighbor had his compressor die at 3yrs 3months. As of July 2024, my other unit's compressor just broke and my neighbor's is about to break cause it's doing exactly what mine has been struggling with for about two weeks. To be clear, I had RHEEM specialists come out to inspect the installations, both were done properly so that's not the issue. Approximately 80% of AC issues are from improper install. All 4 units are cleaned regularly, in Florida, about every 3 months for basic drain flush and twice/year for full coil clean which are hardly dirty when they come to clean anyway.

In 2020 we moved out of my old house that had a RHEEM for 15yrs and still running. Regular maintenance and repairs from wear were the only issues, which is normal. Today? NO, STAY AWAY FROM RHEEM no matter what you read. Absolutely bottom of the barrel. I'm going back to American Standard I had at another house for 10yrs, not a single issue. Keep in mind, even that's not always the answer either. Company's change materials, government changes regulations. It's not easy but during this decade, stay away from RHEEM and RUUD (which is owned by RHEEM).

The AC company I used, in an emergency, when the system failed, did not file a claim with Rheem. I contacted them myself to try to get reimbursement, or a replacement capacitor. Knowing that the part had failed twice, even if they wouldn't reimburse me for the repair, I would like to at least have the part replaced through the warranty so I have to get install the next time it fails, which is likely!

Rheem did not uphold the warranty, claiming that since the AC company did not file a claim and used a different part, they do not need to cover it. The fact is, a RHEEM part failed. The RHEEM part is under warranty. They should still be replacing the part, and they claim they are not liable. The tech says it needs a replacement Thermo Reverse Valve, which got stuck in the cooling position because of a cracked hose. This repair requires a complete drain and refill of all of the refrigerant (Puron type R410a). He said this type of repair would cost about $800-900, because labor and refrigerant aren't covered under the warranty. I asked the tech to explain how the hose got cracked. He responded that "they don't make them like they used to". My last system operated without any major repairs for 25 years. We purchased a Rheem HVAC system (heat pump, air handler, miscellaneous other items) when our previous HVAC system failed. In less than seven years, a small part including a short length of copper tubing suffering a split resulting in a repair totaling over $1200 to replace lost refrigerant and cover other costs (that total being roughly 20% of the earlier total system replacement). Our repairing contractor stated the original part was flawed and replaced it with another Rheem product.

Less than 60 days later, it too failed as had the first. Fortunately our repair company did the repair at no cost given the short duration between failures, again to include replacement of expensive refrigerant. My call to Rheem led to their representative stating that only the part was covered and they would not reimburse for any of the additional cost despite the very short period between system purchase and the two failures. The logical conclusion seems to be that a buyer should not be surprised to find Rheem products suffering early failures, to include parts essential to critical functions that result in complete loss of refrigerant and, therefore, potentially very high and repeated maintenance costs. Ironically, the Rheem heat pump sits beside that for our downstairs, a York unit that apparently was installed 17 years ago and which has performed flawlessly during our seven years of ownership.

I bought a new construction home, it came with a Rheem AC unit. Within the first 6 months the unit completely died. It was under warranty with the home builder so it was fixed for free. Here we are a year later and the unit completely failed again. This is less than two years old and I was told by two separate HVAC contractors ($100 each) that the compressor was blown and I’d need a new one plus refrigerant and a few other parts, the compressor is under warranty but I was quoted at $1,700 by one company and $1,500 from the other. This is an extreme cost especially that it’s happened twice in less than two years. Who’s to say in 6 months it doesn’t die again and they want another $1,500.

Rheem won’t cover the labor or other parts that were ruined when the compressor blew. This would be the equivalent of buying a new car, driving it away and the brakes don’t work so you crash the car. Then the car company simply installs new brakes while leaving the rest of the car totaled. Insane, there’s no making any progress with Rheem themselves. I was told to have the installers of my unit contact Rheem district coordinator, too bad the home builder couldn’t care less to help me so I can’t do anything. So what are my options you ask? Apparently either we get a class action lawsuit going so we can stop this or else we are all just going to be here paying $1,500 every year on AC maintenance. Meanwhile here I am sitting in my 82 degree house in Florida debating whether I should pay my mortgage or the AC company.

She said they would send the part for ME to fix the water softener. The next day she called back and said they would replace the water softener instead. She said they would send one out to me. I mentioned they could simply authorize Home Depot to give me one from the store and they could replace that one. I was told it doesn't work that way. I was told it would be 1 to 2 weeks for the replacement to arrive. I complained that it should NOT take that long. I purchased a Rheem RHS-32 from Home Depot. It failed and had to be changed twice within one year. The first time was within 2 weeks and Home Depot made all the arrangements to replace it. The second occurrence happened within 359 days so it was still under warranty. I called Rheem and spoke to Wil H. and together we diagnosed the problem with the unit. A cracked shaft that allowed water to gush out and flood my garage. He stated that he would send the part and that it would be a “Do It Yourself” simple replacement since it would be easy to remove a couple of clips and replace the part. He clearly expressed on the phone that if I could not do it he would arrange for someone to come and fix it.

After 7 emails I received the "part" and to my surprise it was an entire new unit. Great except I could hardly manage getting it inside my house. The UPS Driver was kind enough to help. I am a senior with limited mobility. After more emails with Wil H and numerous diagrams, I was told it was simple to change the unit and I should get some family or friends (verbatim from his email) to help me. Basically he was washing his hands of it and passing the "buck".

The warranty reads and I quote from the Operation Manual "For a period of one year, labor to repair or replace any part deemed to be defective in materials or workmanship, will be provided at no additional cost". Wil H. answer is below. I copied and pasted from his email: "I hope this clears everything up, your warranty does not cover installation of a softener. Wil H. Customer Service".

I was supposed to get a replacement part. Rheem chose to send a new unit. I was quoted $650 to install it which is more than twice the cost of a new unit. Nowhere on their Warranty Disclaimer does it state that if the unit fails, installation of a new unit is not included. Wil H. is a person that I trusted to honor the warranty. He instead mislead me. I strongly recommend that you think twice before buying a Rheem product. The unit failed twice (I am on my third unit) within one year. Buyer Beware. Their customer Service is deceiving and misleading. They do not Honor the terms of their written warranty.

And then he came out, and he did all the work and everything, and billed us 1,200 or $1,300, and then left us to believe that it was all gonna be covered under our warranty through the manufacturer. My journey started July 2021 when my 13 month old Rheem water heater notified me that it had detected a leak. My first call to their customer service line was exactly like everyone who has had the misfortune to need to call them. No one picks up, hours of wait times, numerous transfers, and calls dropped at their end. This sets an ominous tone for what every customer is going to experience with Rheem "customer service". After more than 6 weeks, they finally sent out a technician to diagnose the "leak". Obviously, it was not a leak. After replacing the leak sensor and the control board, the technician determined that the water heater was bad and should be replaced under warranty (which states that the unit and all labor are fully covered in this time frame).

Before the technician left my home, I was on the phone to Rheem. The technician heard the music playing on my phone, as I had already been stuck in the call cue, and stated "oh, I am very familiar with being forced to listen to that music for far too long". Once a Rheem CS rep finally answered, they had me perform some additional troubleshooting steps despite what the tech that they hired had deduced. In the end, their CS rep stated that they agreed that my unit needed to be replaced at their cost, since it was still fully covered under warranty.

However, this is where Rheem has proven that their intent is to make sure that all warranty claims are made so difficult that their customers will give up trying to get their due satisfaction. Since their recognition of my valid warranty claim and statement that they would honor it by replacing my unit at their cost, I have had to be constantly contacting them because they will not take the initiative to make sure that they keep me informed, their CS reps have argued with me every step of the way, I have had to make all of the arrangements and suggestions of how to resolve the issues that they have created with their business practices, and, as an added bonus, I had to purchase a new unit on my own dime, while hoping that Rheem would honor its warranty contract with me and their promise to send me a check for the replacement unit.

The unit has was replaced in November and I have been waiting for the supposed check for 38 days. Rheem blames the post office and they refuse to overnight the check. My recommendation to anyone thinking about making a purchase from Rheem is to think again. If, God forbid, you ever need customer service from them, you will never receive it because this company despises having to ever have to provide service to any of their customers as evinced by their approach to the entire process.

Not only do they have you holding on the phone for hours and when I mean hours I mean whole hours, they can't even assist or communicate reimbursement procedure effectively. After being told by one representative that he would be sending an email with how to submit for reimbursement within hours, I had to call back after a few days to advise I did not receive such email. Another rep advised the reason I didn't receive the email was that they did not have the necessary voucher to send...so why not say that from the first call or someone reach out me to advise instead of me waiting on an email that was never to arrive. As we speak I'm literally on hold for what seems like another hour just to speak to a manager. P.s. This is all due to a defective part on a water heater that was installed less than year ago.

Summary: $1,500 water heater was declared a "lemon" by Rheem's tech support -- Rheem will not issue a full refund. I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem water heater (PROPG50-40N RH67 PD) from an authorized Rheem dealer, Johnson Thermol Temp Inc., Washington, MI. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi feature, used to raise/lower the water temperature from a smartphone, never worked consistently. After a seemingly random period of time (a few hours to a week) the Wi-Fi connection would drop, resulting in lukewarm-to-cold showers.

During the next several months I placed many calls and invested dozens of hours of personal time working with Rheem's tech support. To prove my home network wasn't the issue I was required to purchase and install two different Wi-Fi extenders. Rheem/Johnson Thermal made several attempts to troubleshoot the problem. They replaced the Wi-Fi unit. They replaced the gas valve three times. Nothing worked. Unable to solve the problem Rheem's tech support declared the water heater a lemon (their words, not mine, case number 3137948) and told me to return it and Johnson Thermal would provide a refund.

Johnson Thermal took the water heater back. A few weeks passed; no refund. After two more phone calls to Johnson Thermal and another week went by I received a partial, $700 refund. Attempts to discuss the refund amount with Rheem failed. I placed two calls to their warranty group. Both times I was told that "the manager was not available but would call back." Neither call was returned. Attempts to discuss the refund amount with Johnson Thermal failed. I placed a call to the manager -- it was not returned. A partial refund is not acceptable for a water heater that *never* worked properly. My expectation was/is for a full, $1500 refund.

We paid the tech and then looked into filing a warranty which any consumer would do. We were told you don't cover freon or repairs only parts? That is just silly. You have a factory weld break in the first year and this is not a warranty related issue. We are going to need you to say that in writing. We are sick of the runaround and feel Rheem has not done their part. We, like many consumers have had issues with an installer. We still have units in our homes which require warranty service and your warranty should transfer from vendor to vendor. Our system had a catastrophic failure at 9 months and lost all its coolant. We had an old Rheem furnace that worked great for 30 years so when it had a moisture rust problem and kept going out, we looked for another Rheem, and it was a little tricky to find an installer who dealt with them in our rural area, but we did eventually. In the meantime, we did get quotes on all major systems available from a handful of vendors, and was surprised that many of the other systems cost twice as much but got worse reviews. Our newer Rheem furnace has been working great now for 10 years with no problems (we did discover there are a pair of hidden button-like protrusions that you can use to re-set the furnace if it goes out due to a sudden surge or power outage, or if something is blocking the intake and it activates an emergency shut down, which we used once).

A dishonest technician could take advantage of someone who didn't know that was there. We should never have the same rusting with moisture and cracking problem again because the new part is rust-proof with a lifetime guarantee. Because our 1860's basement has little room, and new vents would be difficult to cut in, we couldn't easily have the air conditioning part of the furnace installed, and just use our window air conditions which work fine. Although the furnace is great, I would be hesitant to buy a Rheem air conditioning unit due to the many problems I have read about others experiencing where they get corrosion and/or mold in the coils, and I also probably would not buy the Rheem water heater as there are a lot of complaints about that, unless a newer model becomes available that addresses these issues.

Less than a year ago, I had two brand-new Rheem heat pumps installed to the tune of $16,000. One of these units had a factory defect which resulted in nearly $1,600 in electric overages (as the defect made it so that our home was unknowingly running on the ‘emergency heat’ setting for two months). As soon as I realized that something was amiss, I contacted the company – where their customer service agent led me to believe that such charges would be reimbursed provided it was deemed a defective part. HOWEVER, given the situation with COVID, she also informed me that unfortunately no agents would be able to do a home visit – and therefore the defect could not be verified.

After reaching out to the HVAC installation crew, they were able to connect directly with Rheem and arrange for agents to come take a look. From my first contact, to the date of that visit, was 14 days. With a two-month old infant in our home, it was not an option to forgo heat during this time… and I shared my concerns with the customer service agent that with each passing day, we were accruing $30 in additional heating expenses.

When representatives were sent – presumably as ‘damage control’ their conduct was unprofessional and abhorrent. Unbelievably rude and condescending to the HVAC technician (who had been nothing but kind and solution-oriented), one agent told the technician he needed to “teach him a lesson.” As a business owner myself, this is not acceptable behavior for anyone working on behalf of the company– much less, in a customer-facing position. I felt bad for the technician who was demeaned in the presence of customers as the Rheem rep arrogantly passed the onus of responsibility onto him.

Prior to selecting these heating units, I did ample research. I decided upon Rheem because of their strong reputation and quality products. It is unconscionable to me that in these unprecedented times, there has yet to be any sort of restitution for expenses incurred as a result of a FACTORY DEFECT. Simply replacing the unit is not satisfactory… that is a given, as the product (at less than a year old) is still well under warranty. Reimbursement for the time spent with a faulty product that, once identified, wasn’t even replaced in a timely manner should be a given.

In good faith, I have been beyond patient in awaiting resolution. Again, as per my initial conversation with Rheem’s customer service agent, my burden of proof was met. Curiously, when I requested full transcripts of those phone calls to verify what had been communicated to me, Rheem avoided providing said documents. Instead, I was provided with a copy of the warranty and an accompanying letter from the supervisor stating that there is "no accommodation for utility charges" (despite this being explicitly stated nowhere within the warranty he himself provided). So basically, their faulty product, and the subsequent delay ran up my electric bill, and they see themselves as being at no fault for the issue, or their slow response (during which I continued to be charged at the emergency rates)... Not to mention, the time I had to take off work to deal with this mess between phone calls and the visits with technicians and reps.

Never in my life have I written a negative review... and yet I find myself compelled to do so as I feel so wronged. All in all, this experience has been a failure at every turn of the road, and months on, I am still awaiting an appropriate response and the compensation which they have previously acknowledged I am due, given the factory defect. Their products (when not defective) may well be great. However, in my experience, they are unwilling to stand behind them in moments where it counts.

Please before you buy a Rheem HVAC, research the quality of their coils. A year after purchasing a new system I have been experiencing dirty sock syndrome. It is a known issue with the coil and there is a known fix, the coils need to be dipped with in a bronzing solution or an epoxy. This prevents mold and bacteria buildup on the coils and then spewing the spores throughout your home. Rheem calls it an environmental issue and refuses to reimburse for the costs to have the problem remedied. After installation either a UV light or a Global Plasma System at my expense, my issue may be resolved, again Rheem refuses to reimburse my costs. I am also reading that their coils have a problem with corrosion and failure, once again a problem corrected by dipping to prevent the corrosion.

Buyer beware, the limited warranty is just that, extremely limited, no labor to replace defective parts, no Freon replacement costs on defective equipment, no labor to correct their known issue with dirty sock syndrome. I guess they think these things just magically fix themselves. I bought my unit from an authorized Rheem dealer and was told these were some of the best units on the market.

They should offer at least a rebate when a unit doesn't last over 10 years!

WARNING - Be sure to register your Rheem Heat Pump. Without registration, you lose 5 years of your 10 year warranty. BETTER YET... DO NOT BUY RHEEM. If I could zero or negative star I would. My installer did not register my unit 7 years ago nor did I. I was not given a registration card to mail in. For the past 4 years, I've had 5 techs here to work on my unit. Made a horrible loud banging noise that would wake us up at night. The blower motor was replaced. See-cell warped fan blade on condenser replaced. Thermostat replaced. Added 2 lb. of freon... All to no avail. Now the compressor is gone.

I had AEP out when I got a $400.00 electric bill. They said air was not circulating evenly throughout- kept the unit running continuously. I had to close of 3 rooms to afford my electric bill. I mailed Rheem Corporation a copy of my dated bill, installation date, model #, serial # and copy of my 10 year warranty. Their reply was ... Sorry.. There's no registration recorded, your warranty is gone. So Rheem Corporation is gone for me. My friend also purchased a Rheem heat pump and her unit is having the same problems. DO NOT BUY RHEEM.

I said I wanted a new unit before closing. Rheem begged us to let them fix it and that we would have a ten year warranty they would back. A year and a half in, have had 4 repair people in 3 months and getting Rheem to help forget about it, the warranty process is very complicated and you never hear back. You have to keep calling the headquarters. Yes I should have known better and just said, "Give me a new unit", my bad and I will never make that mistake again. But we were good to Rheem. DO NOT PURCHASE A RHEEM AC as they are unscrupulous! I bought and had installed a new RHEEM AC in 2014 that came with a 10 year parts warranty from RHEEM. Because the HVAC company that sold/installed the unit failed to register the unit with RHEEM within 60 days, which I had NO WAY OF KNOWING, RHEEM ONLY honors 5 years of the warranty and not 10 years. Rheem would NOT bend on these rules even though I am the original homeowner with the unit currently installed nor would they allow me to speak to any RHEEM executives. I filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General for this unscrupulous behavior! Their CEO is JR Jones who has no contact information on their website or LinkedIn.

The next day the unit froze up and the company that installed it had to replace the defrost board. April 2020, we now have a bad coil which we believe was damaged when it froze in 2019. Called them back the next day and spoke with Cody who said that the $225 was their final offer. We purchased a Rheem air conditioner in 2012 because we were having small problems with our original air conditioner that came with our house when it was built in 1995. Because it was 17 years old & started having small problems, we decided to purchase a new one, which was a Rheem. Btw, we lived in another home prior to this one & that a/c (not a Rheem) was still working great when we sold that home 20 years later. After having the new one for two years, the coil was leaking & all rusted out. It was under warranty, but the labor to install a new one cost us just under $500. Almost six years after that, just recently, the compressor went out. The charge to relace it (labor) plus refrigerant is $1600.

We purchased a new a/c unit so we wouldn't have to be putting more money into an old unit, wouldn't have to be inconvenienced & uncomfortable. We now have bigger & more expensive problems with the a/c than we had before. Rheem makes an inferior product & I wouldn't wish this product on anyone. Do not buy from Rheem, you'll be sorry. P.S. I have a neighbor who also replaced her original a/c of 19 years with a Rheem & her unit just stopped working. She is still waiting for the repairman to look at it while the high has been 100° each day.

On Sunday, 4/19, I had no hot water. A quick call to the company and we were told to call and get a tech out. My husband remarked that it is Sunday!!! That is going to be expensive. The agent said, "No worries, we will reimburse." The tech came out to install a new thermocouple (not too bad only $$20) and it was done, but there was a part it connected to that was defective. We called back and asked about the part needed. He said that it would take several days for it to be shipped here. We have a 2 year old and an 8 year old, not acceptable. But for a $30 fee, they would overnight it. Ok, now I am out another $30. 2 days later the tech came back to put it on. He showed us the parts and remarked how better quality the new part was. Alas, that didn't work either. It needed a new brain. Which was not cheap ($128). The tech purchased it and now I have hot water. I was thrilled.

I called to see where I sent the receipts and was transferred to get a claim number. I got a claim number, but was then told I had to submit it all online, once I received their email. OK. I get the information emailed and it states that they only reimburse up to $125 for a tech fee. WTH!!! Are you kidding. So - 2 hours of work on a Sunday ($85 an hour typically with the discount), but it is time and a half (on Sunday) $212.50 plus another 2 hours when they got the new part, going after the brain, plus labor was another $170. Total tech fee was $382.50 labor. So I guess their agent wasn't aware of this $125 max, but that is not my fault. Guess if that is their policy, then it's tough dodo for me.

After reading through other reviews of RHEEM’s defective coils and the cost to remove and install, I’ve decided to replace their crap with a reliable system. Taking into consideration that their coils continue to fail, I anticipate having to pay $100-$150 a month as a cost to owning a RHEEM HVAC system. I purchased three separate Rheem HVAC units for three of my house. Has one unit failed within three months and needed a new water pump. One unit failed within 9 months and needed a new fan motor and the third unit managed to last two years and needed a new condensing fan motor. For what you pay for these systems I can't even see one of them failing this quickly but three systems is inexcusable and I don't run my air conditioning hard at all. I keep my house at 81 degrees and the two other houses are kept at about 75 or 76 degrees. There is no excuse for these units to fail this quickly.

Every time I call Rheem they just tie me up in questions about serial numbers and product numbers and they never give me a firm answer as to why the systems failed so quickly and they obviously have never made any offer to reimburse the expenses of repairing these systems. The first two were covered under the warranty. The third one was not because it failed in two years so I was stuck paying for the repair. I'm actually afraid to use my air conditioning for what might break down next and I can't see these systems lasting 10 or 20 years. If they're breaking down like this now I don't know who regulates HVAC companies but Rheem needs to be reported. They are either making substandard products or they are pawning off reconditioned systems as new systems.

We have a Rheem air conditioner that was installed March 2017. Since then it’s broken twice. The first time it was a simple fix as the defroster board needed to be fixed. Not a big issue as the repair company could do it quickly and only cost $250. It breaks again 7 months later in the middle of August in Florida. The condenser coil has a leak which caused all the Freon to leak out and burn out the compressor. None of that is an easy fix and will end up costing us $1900 for a unit that’s less than 3 years old. Called and talked to Rheem and they are unwilling to help. All they’ll tell you is the parts are under warranty and there’s nothing else they can do and will hang up on you. So unless you want to be spending thousands of dollars in labor every year to get it fixed and deal with the worst customer service I would stay far far away.

The serviceman stated they have more call on Rheem and Ruud than all the other brands combined. Rheem used to be a good brand but they are one of the lowest selling brands since moving production to Mexico and stopped making their own parts. Most parts are made in China, Mexico and Canada. Both Goodman and American Standard sell more units than Rheem and the reliability on Goodman is much higher than Rheem. I purchased a Goodman Heat Pump for my other house in 2016 with no problems compared to the Rheem that breaks down every year. A heating and cooling place examined it and determined it had some wiring that shorted out. They rewired it successfully and got it going again.

Now, this last winter (2018), I started getting huge electric bills and realized the heat pump was running almost continuously. The cause was eventually determined to be a leaking coil in the air handler in the basement. Since we're not the original purchaser of the HVAC equipment, none of it is covered under the factory warranty. But the installer advised that these Rheem/Ruud coils are leaking on almost all of the units made around that 2012 time-frame, and it's throwing good money after bad to spend the $1000+ to repair it, vs buying a whole new system. At this point, I'm just waiting for the 2nd. floor unit to fail as well...

Mold began to form around ductwork and near air conditioning outlets inside the house. I have not before had an A/C system malfunction in this way after just one year. Very poor quality system and I would recommend other more reliable brands over this.

Both the installer and the company do not care and refuse to stand by their product. Even though their product is at fault they want the consumer to pay to fix the problems they caused by selling a bad product. They will not fix the damage caused or repair the system or take responsibility for their own mistakes. They sell a faulty product which malfunctions after just 1 year then to cause more costly repairs. They apparently design their products to fail after 1 year so you are forced to spend more money with them for expensive repairs! Died on Nov 1 2018, called the number on the water heater, was told the labor warranty was expired but parts were in warranty so they'd send the part, got the part on Tuesday, got it installed and still got 7 flashing red lights, so called back on Wednesday, the second tech I talked to on Wednesday said two failures of the same part were considered a complete failure. I'd have to bring the water heater back to point of purchase and they'd replace it.

As we talked she offhandedly mentions that it had a 9 yr part warranty and a 2 yr labor warranty (since I'd been told it was out of warranty I was under impression that the labor was 1 yr) and that the labour had expired in August. I told her I had purchased it in April, she had me email the receipt and serial number to another email. That night I got an email that my warranty was updated and if I had any problems to call 800-432-8373, so first thing Thursday morning I called and they said they'd schedule a service technician to come replace it and I'd be contacted within one business day with the name of the service tech and the appointment time.

A short time later I got an email stating "Thank you for contacting Rheem. A request for labor coverage has been submitted to our Dispatch team for processing. You will either receive a call from our dispatch team with labor options or from an independent contractor in your area within 1 business day to setup an appointment. Labor coverage includes the repair or replacement of any part of the water heater due to defect in material or workmanship. If you do not receive a call within 1 business day, you may call 800-248-3553 Mon-Sat 8AM-8PM ET for further assistance."

So, I don't hear anything further on Thursday, and I don't hear anything on Friday. So Friday night I tried to call but it was after 8 pm et, so I called again Saturday morning. I explained my situation and asked why I hadn't been contacted with any update within one business day like I was promised. The person I talked to (never Identified herself, but her "manager" said her name was Leah) told me that the techs don't dispatch service people, they created a ticket on Thursday which went to dispatch who created a rework ticket on Friday and it's Saturday and I'm talking to the person whose job it is to call the service people and schedule them and if I'd let her do her job she'd call and see if someone was available.

She put me on hold and came back and said, "Nobody is answering so they're probably closed for the weekend. I'll call them on Monday and see if they'll come out, or I can give you a warranty claim number and you can do it yourself." Kind of ** since if your people hadn't been slow walking it and had contacted me on Friday LIKE PROMISED I could have called on Friday and had someone scheduled to work on Saturday or Sunday, but since it's already Saturday I cant contact anyone until Monday. She then told me if there's nothing else shes hanging up. I had to stop her and ask to talk to a manager, who told me if I didnt want to wait until Monday for someone to be called she could give me a warranty claim number so I could call someone myself.

She also said she had to defend Leah's behavior because she such a good and loyal employee and Leah was the only person who could possibly handle my claim. She also refused to admit that your company failed in any way in upholding your promise to contact me within one business day, telling me she understood why I would feel that way (without specifying what "way" I was feeling). Very well trained to be noncommittal. Cant think of another company that's given me such horrible customer service in the last decade.

I would not recommend ever buying a Rheem. I've had the unit for 5 years and the coils went bad. I was told by my HVAC company that they have had this problem numerous times with this model. The part is covered under warranty, but the freon that lost because of this bad part was not covered. This freon would not have been lost if not for the bad part, but the warranty says it's not covered. Therefore, it cost me over $600 for the repairs. As I read the reviews on this site, I see that others have the problem and the replacement coils have gone out in a year or so.

I bought this Rheem HVAC less than five years ago. It has so many problems such as bad compressor less than a year. Bad reverse value twice. Now I have to pay for labor and wasted freon. I did not want Rheem because of bad reviews but my contractor insisted on this brand. Please, please learn from my mistake. If a contractor insist on Rheem, go to another contractor.

Our Rheem Performance Platinum water heater's control panel started an electrical fire. I have numerous documents on it - fire department report, photos, etc. It caused smoke damage and carpet damage to our home. We are out a $2500 home insurance deductible due to the faulty appliance. After the incident I searched online regarding the particular make and model of this water heater and found out there is a recall for this very same reason. We were never notified by the manufacturer of this recall/defect. I had sent in my warranty card the day we had the water heater installed, but still did not receive notification. Notification could have prevent this fire at our house. I have tried contacting Rheem several times and have not received a response.

Two year old 5 ton premium unit. $9700 to install in July of 2016. Since this August I have had to pay $1500 to repair all the solder joints on the heat exchanger... Turns out it was made in China... Inferior solder corrodes and fails. Then one month later the secondary valve leaked (another 12lbs of Freon @$76/lb). Another $1400 to fix. Then two weeks later the control board fried...the installer is now telling me I need to buy a new unit. BS!

I purchased a top of the line 12 year model less than a year ago at our local Home Depot. It worked like a champ until suddenly last night, Thursday, we had no hot water. I went to the Rheem's website and attempted to leave a message. However after a few attempts I realized that I wasn't being allowed to leave a message.

I live in California and began calling at 0630 but didn't get through to a person until after 0800. I explained the symptoms and I was told that they would send out a technician. Silly me assumed that they meant today. I called again after 1300 to get a time we should expect this technician. I was required to go through the entire story again because they didn't appear as if they bothered to keep any records. I was told that they needed to send me a part. However the warehouse was now closed. I asked why they didn't ship it out this morning when I first called. Again it didn't seem as if they bother to keep any records. I asked for the name of the company/technician who will do the repair so that I might contact them to see if by some stroke of luck they had a part in stock. Rheem didn't have a name to give me.

So now I'm waiting for a part to arrive sometime Wednesday or Thursday and then for some unnamed technician to come out and install it on some other day.

Expecting a customer to be without hot water for a week because of a $50 part is asinine, especially today with overnight shipping, etc. Like I said there was absolutely no urgency on Rheem's part to do anything that might convenience a customer.

Have two units at my home in Northern Virginia. Been through 5 units over the past 6 years and at least 4 other service calls. Leaks, compressor, blower motor, control board, etc. Latest issue is leak in coil outside where coil goes through bracket... Likely due to wear caused by vibration. This one should have been anticipated by engineers and mitigated with simple, low-cost (pennies) solution. Had multiple Rheem installers/service folks out so it's not likely them. Done with Rheem for my lifetime and letting other folks know my experience as well to help as many as I can.

Clearly based on the handful of reviews I have read quickly here, I will just be further confirming the total lack of responsibility that Rheem takes in their products, as well as the gross incompetence and total lack of regard that their Customer Service Department has for the reputation of the company, much less the customer (Specifically you Supervisor Tim). I should not be out of pocket $1,460 dollars on labor and supplies related to a faulty AC unit in a 5 year period when the warranty is for 10 years.

But Rheem will just quote you chapter and verse like Stepford Wives instead of assuming one ounce of responsibility. If this is how Rheem operates, I will not need to wait long to have the last laugh. My A/C contractor has already stopped carrying their brand due to poor quality and customer complaints. And my guess is that the losing combination of bad quality and poor accountability will be the death blow to a company like this in due course. Customers are too savvy today to keep a stone aged approach like Rheem has alive for much longer.
