I have a Rheem furnace installed by Gemaire distributor that's less than 1.5 years old. The motor has already burned up in it and it's 105° today where I am for the second day in a row with a heat index of 116°. Not having AC is not an option right now. I've been told they have no motors for this unit and when asked how they plan to honor their warranty they have zero answers. It becomes a circular conversation at that point and they never answer "What then?" I'm going to have to install a completely different unit at my cost despite paying them for a product that's defective and still under warranty. This is abhorrent behavior on the part of Rheem. My attorney is being contacted for a possible lawsuit but a little research shows that Rheem has had several lawsuits filed beginning on 2016 for faulty and defective units across many appliances. Do yourself and your pocketbook a favor and steer clear of anything Rheem.

I paid thousands of dollars for a new air conditioner. A faulty part broke after only two years and they only warranty the part. I have to pay $500.00 for labor to have it repaired. If you are going to make and sell something that costs your consumer thousands of dollars, it should work longer than 2 years or you should be responsible for repairing it. Not a good look, Rheem.

Bought a Rheem HVAC 5 years ago after my 30 year old unit died. 1 month after ARS installed it, the unit started breaking down every few months. The motor just quit working again and I decided to cut my loses. I bought a new brand from a different company. Rheem would not answer emails nor phone calls about the problem. Never again.

I recently had a new Rheem air conditioner/heat pump installed. The Rheem service partner, Blanton & Sons, did not disclose that the Rheem unit they recommended does not qualify for the federal energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act. Further, the contractor indicated Rheem does not have equipment that meets the SEER2 rating requirements for the tax credit. BUYER BEWARE! The tax credit for a split unit is $2,000, so be sure you get equipment that qualifies for this credit. Don’t trust Rheem or their service partner to disclose their noncompliance before you agree to install a unit. Consider other manufacturers.

I bought a new construction home, it came with a Rheem AC unit. Within the first 6 months the unit completely died. It was under warranty with the home builder so it was fixed for free. Here we are a year later and the unit completely failed again. This is less than two years old and I was told by two separate HVAC contractors ($100 each) that the compressor was blown and I’d need a new one plus refrigerant and a few other parts, the compressor is under warranty but I was quoted at $1,700 by one company and $1,500 from the other. This is an extreme cost especially that it’s happened twice in less than two years. Who’s to say in 6 months it doesn’t die again and they want another $1,500.
Rheem won’t cover the labor or other parts that were ruined when the compressor blew. This would be the equivalent of buying a new car, driving it away and the brakes don’t work so you crash the car. Then the car company simply installs new brakes while leaving the rest of the car totaled. Insane, there’s no making any progress with Rheem themselves. I was told to have the installers of my unit contact Rheem district coordinator, too bad the home builder couldn’t care less to help me so I can’t do anything. So what are my options you ask? Apparently either we get a class action lawsuit going so we can stop this or else we are all just going to be here paying $1,500 every year on AC maintenance. Meanwhile here I am sitting in my 82 degree house in Florida debating whether I should pay my mortgage or the AC company.

Called Rheem which took several tries was told to contact plumber and gave phone number. Called their authorized plumber and was charged $350 for them to show up and call rheem for technical support to be told they can’t accept any more calls due to the volume of calls. So he left. No hot water for us. Will just have to rip it out and replace with a regular water heater. Do not waste your money. Only the parts are warranty, not labor.

About 2 months after the purchase and installation, the Rheem water heater began to leak, and the top parts were rusted. The installer and the plumber we work with called the Rheem company and was told to lower the set temperature. He did it but it was still leaking, and we had to wipe the water in the plastic plate on the floor. The e explained to me that he has been having problem with Rheem products recently and decided to switch to another brand. This was a very disappointing experience which might reflect the declining of American manufacturing.

I purchased a Rheem Water Softener at Home Depot in Mar of 2022. Two weeks ago it malfunctioned and sent Resin beads all through my plumbing. It was quite difficult to finally reach someone to speak with. The Rep on the phone, (Allison), was very polite and professional. She was very thorough and easy to work with. She said they would send the part for ME to fix the water softener. The next day she called back and said they would replace the water softener instead. She said they would send one out to me. I mentioned they could simply authorize Home Depot to give me one from the store and they could replace that one. I was told it doesn't work that way. I was told it would be 1 to 2 weeks for the replacement to arrive. I complained that it should NOT take that long. I said it should be sent out within a day or 2 as it was their product that failed and they would want to satisfy the customer as quick as possible.
I received an email from Ron on the Monday, a week after complaining saying the water softener would be sent out on Wed and thanks for my patience. I wrote back saying my patience was very thin because of the time consumption. I never received a response. I thought Rheem would send one out RIGHT AWAY to get it to me. It took TWO WEEKS for the new water softener to arrive. This issue also cost me money out of pocket due to the damage the resin beads infiltrating parts of my plumbing that had to be replaced due to the clogs. I am truly disappointed in this company! This is unacceptable and I WILL NOT BE BUYING FROM RHEEM AGAIN!!!

I purchased a brand new Rheem AC unit and the compressor went bad after a little more than 2 years. The parts are under warranty, but the labor to replace the compressor and the cost to replace the freon was over $1200. It SHOULD NOT cost this much to cover a part that is under warranty!! Rheem should be covering these costs, as the unit was expensive enough to begin with, and the freon would not have needed replaced if the compressor had not gone bad. How can we get a class action lawsuit going? When I called Rheem, they don't even care.

I purchased a Rheem RHS-32 from Home Depot. It failed and had to be changed twice within one year. The first time was within 2 weeks and Home Depot made all the arrangements to replace it. The second occurrence happened within 359 days so it was still under warranty. I called Rheem and spoke to Wil H. and together we diagnosed the problem with the unit. A cracked shaft that allowed water to gush out and flood my garage. He stated that he would send the part and that it would be a “Do It Yourself” simple replacement since it would be easy to remove a couple of clips and replace the part. He clearly expressed on the phone that if I could not do it he would arrange for someone to come and fix it.
After 7 emails I received the "part" and to my surprise it was an entire new unit. Great except I could hardly manage getting it inside my house. The UPS Driver was kind enough to help. I am a senior with limited mobility. After more emails with Wil H and numerous diagrams, I was told it was simple to change the unit and I should get some family or friends (verbatim from his email) to help me. Basically he was washing his hands of it and passing the "buck".
The warranty reads and I quote from the Operation Manual "For a period of one year, labor to repair or replace any part deemed to be defective in materials or workmanship, will be provided at no additional cost". Wil H. answer is below. I copied and pasted from his email: "I hope this clears everything up, your warranty does not cover installation of a softener. Wil H. Customer Service".
I was supposed to get a replacement part. Rheem chose to send a new unit. I was quoted $650 to install it which is more than twice the cost of a new unit. Nowhere on their Warranty Disclaimer does it state that if the unit fails, installation of a new unit is not included. Wil H. is a person that I trusted to honor the warranty. He instead mislead me. I strongly recommend that you think twice before buying a Rheem product. The unit failed twice (I am on my third unit) within one year. Buyer Beware. Their customer Service is deceiving and misleading. They do not Honor the terms of their written warranty.

Ladies and Gents, More than half of these reviews on here are installer problems not unit problems. Your first rule is never go the cheap route on such an important investment for your comfort in your home or office. Your second rule is to service your equipment. It's just as important as changing the oil in your car. This is something almost everyone skips. "Out of Sight out of Mind" in this case is brutal. Rheem is a good product hands down. You just have to get a installer that knows what they are doing. Research them. Ask for their previous and long ago customers. Take the time and call everyone and most importantly ask for at least 15 because half won't answer.

If you are considering purchasing a new HVAC system, do not purchase a Rheem. I purchased one in 2018 and have already had to refill it with very expensive refrigerant twice. The total cost of this has been in the ballpark of $2,500. This is a new system that should not require costly repairs! In the most recent case, the technician who inspected it took one look, found a hole in the intake valve and said "that's clearly a manufacturer's defect." So I called Rheem. What did they say, you ask, when I requested that they cover a portion of the $1,600 bill to replace the refrigerant that had leaked out through this clear manufacturer's defect? They offered to cover exactly $0 of the bill because they do not pay for new refrigerant. The loss of refrigerant was caused by their defect! Rheem's customer care is absolute garbage, as are their products. I will never buy another Rheem system, and neither should you.

I live in my primary house and also have a rental. I figured that I would have two similar units installed. It was quickly noticed that the units would fail at similar times. At the rental we are on our fourth motherboard and fan motor. I am on my third in my own house. At one point the exact same parts failed five weeks later. Lucky for me there was only a 30 day warranty so I get to have it done twice. We also had a check valve part that failed which was very expensive. I am now waiting for it to go out on the one at my house. The unit at my house freezes in the middle of the night and I have to turn it off to throw. The tech little more than said I had to put up with this. I am lucky to have a 10 year parts warranty but get raped with the labor costs. I have never seen such a high maintenance system in my life. My journey started July 2021 when my 13 month old Rheem water heater notified me that it had detected a leak. My first call to their customer service line was exactly like everyone who has had the misfortune to need to call them. No one picks up, hours of wait times, numerous transfers, and calls dropped at their end. This sets an ominous tone for what every customer is going to experience with Rheem "customer service". After more than 6 weeks, they finally sent out a technician to diagnose the "leak". Obviously, it was not a leak. After replacing the leak sensor and the control board, the technician determined that the water heater was bad and should be replaced under warranty (which states that the unit and all labor are fully covered in this time frame).
Before the technician left my home, I was on the phone to Rheem. The technician heard the music playing on my phone, as I had already been stuck in the call cue, and stated "oh, I am very familiar with being forced to listen to that music for far too long". Once a Rheem CS rep finally answered, they had me perform some additional troubleshooting steps despite what the tech that they hired had deduced. In the end, their CS rep stated that they agreed that my unit needed to be replaced at their cost, since it was still fully covered under warranty.
However, this is where Rheem has proven that their intent is to make sure that all warranty claims are made so difficult that their customers will give up trying to get their due satisfaction. Since their recognition of my valid warranty claim and statement that they would honor it by replacing my unit at their cost, I have had to be constantly contacting them because they will not take the initiative to make sure that they keep me informed, their CS reps have argued with me every step of the way, I have had to make all of the arrangements and suggestions of how to resolve the issues that they have created with their business practices, and, as an added bonus, I had to purchase a new unit on my own dime, while hoping that Rheem would honor its warranty contract with me and their promise to send me a check for the replacement unit.
The unit has was replaced in November and I have been waiting for the supposed check for 38 days. Rheem blames the post office and they refuse to overnight the check. My recommendation to anyone thinking about making a purchase from Rheem is to think again. If, God forbid, you ever need customer service from them, you will never receive it because this company despises having to ever have to provide service to any of their customers as evinced by their approach to the entire process.

After being told by one representative that he would be sending an email with how to submit for reimbursement within hours, I had to call back after a few days to advise I did not receive such email. Summary: $1,500 water heater was declared a "lemon" by Rheem's tech support -- Rheem will not issue a full refund. I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem water heater (PROPG50-40N RH67 PD) from an authorized Rheem dealer, Johnson Thermol Temp Inc., Washington, MI. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi feature, used to raise/lower the water temperature from a smartphone, never worked consistently. After a seemingly random period of time (a few hours to a week) the Wi-Fi connection would drop, resulting in lukewarm-to-cold showers.
During the next several months I placed many calls and invested dozens of hours of personal time working with Rheem's tech support. To prove my home network wasn't the issue I was required to purchase and install two different Wi-Fi extenders. Rheem/Johnson Thermal made several attempts to troubleshoot the problem. They replaced the Wi-Fi unit. They replaced the gas valve three times. Nothing worked. Unable to solve the problem Rheem's tech support declared the water heater a lemon (their words, not mine, case number 3137948) and told me to return it and Johnson Thermal would provide a refund.
Johnson Thermal took the water heater back. A few weeks passed; no refund. After two more phone calls to Johnson Thermal and another week went by I received a partial, $700 refund. Attempts to discuss the refund amount with Rheem failed. I placed two calls to their warranty group. Both times I was told that "the manager was not available but would call back." Neither call was returned. Attempts to discuss the refund amount with Johnson Thermal failed. I placed a call to the manager -- it was not returned. A partial refund is not acceptable for a water heater that *never* worked properly. My expectation was/is for a full, $1500 refund.

Beware before buying online, spent over $7000 dollars on two new Rheem furnaces with entire AC set ups inside and out. Used an internet ad to find a great price from an local supplier in Florida and they sell to the public. I had issues with a bad furnace board when we set the first unit, so I figured no big deal. It's under warranty through Rheem. Oh Boy was I right but told I was so wrong by the Rheem HVAC customer service rep Sandy, so asked for the supervisor and got Tim and he said the same statement. Rheem limited warranty disclosure, under Exclusions line J states.
"1) Any covered equipment manufactured by the manufacturer that has been sold to the consumer via the internet or auction website, AND has not been installed by a trained, qualified HVAC professional." Rheem will not deal with warranty, saying I bought it from a liquidator (Budget Heating and Air). Not a liquidator at all. Rheem, Please read and know your own wording, AND in the middle means both statements together as written in your own document.

I purchased a High End Seer Unit through my contractor 5 summers ago. I was under construction and forgot to send in my warranty. After 5 seasons and spending thousands of dollars for this unit I had to replace a motor for $900. Because I did not mail in my warranty I was covered for only 5 years. If the warranty was sent it 10 years. This is a game!!!! I understand there are rules but the company knows exactly when my unit was purchase and to me this is a game to the consumer. Lastly they Rheem should stand behind their product!!!! My advice do not purchase anything from this company. If anything they should have offered something to help offset the $900 I had to spend. Rules are made to be broken.

We have a legitimate warranty related issue. We had a leak due to a failed weld which a certified Rheem tech repaired. We paid the tech and then looked into filing a warranty which any consumer would do. We were told you don't cover freon or repairs only parts? That is just silly. You have a factory weld break in the first year and this is not a warranty related issue. We are going to need you to say that in writing. We are sick of the runaround and feel Rheem has not done their part. We, like many consumers have had issues with an installer. We still have units in our homes which require warranty service and your warranty should transfer from vendor to vendor. Our system had a catastrophic failure at 9 months and lost all its coolant. Cost for the repair was not cheap and exceeds $1119! Please advise.

Same issue except this time Rheem refuses to honor warranty. Tech advised nearly all of this model installed in last 4 years has failed with either bad coils or this TDX valve. Rheem stopped honoring their 10 year warranties late last year on these models. So in 2018 I paid 7500 for new unit and coil, and 2022 I am having to fork out another 7500 to get another unit. We purchased a home in Florida 10 yrs ago for when we retired. We purchased a brand new complete Rheem AC unit from Heavenly Air in our town in 2012. We were told they would register it and we would have a 10 year warranty. We finally retired and moved in last fall. So actually the unit was never used on a yearly basis, just while we were here for 2 week vacations twice a year. It was set for 85 degrees any other time. The unit stopped throwing cold air. We called Heavenly Air. Yup, out of business and the company that took over will was no help. We called an air conditioner service they said 1200.00 to replace the coil. They reached out to Rheem, Rheem said it was never registered. I don’t have proof as I trusted Heavenly Air. The original manufacturing date sticker on the unit proves it's not even 10 yrs old. So, please consider this if you are thinking about purchasing a Rheem system.

We had an old Rheem furnace that worked great for 30 years so when it had a moisture rust problem and kept going out, we looked for another Rheem, and it was a little tricky to find an installer who dealt with them in our rural area, but we did eventually. In the meantime, we did get quotes on all major systems available from a handful of vendors, and was surprised that many of the other systems cost twice as much but got worse reviews. Our newer Rheem furnace has been working great now for 10 years with no problems (we did discover there are a pair of hidden button-like protrusions that you can use to re-set the furnace if it goes out due to a sudden surge or power outage, or if something is blocking the intake and it activates an emergency shut down, which we used once).
A dishonest technician could take advantage of someone who didn't know that was there. We should never have the same rusting with moisture and cracking problem again because the new part is rust-proof with a lifetime guarantee. Because our 1860's basement has little room, and new vents would be difficult to cut in, we couldn't easily have the air conditioning part of the furnace installed, and just use our window air conditions which work fine. Although the furnace is great, I would be hesitant to buy a Rheem air conditioning unit due to the many problems I have read about others experiencing where they get corrosion and/or mold in the coils, and I also probably would not buy the Rheem water heater as there are a lot of complaints about that, unless a newer model becomes available that addresses these issues.

Compressor on my Rheem unit serial # 7842W281100514 failed 9 years into a 10 year warranty. Oil leaked from compressor into lines destroying entire system...coil, condenser, transfer lines. Got 2 estimates to replace and both were appx $5500. Rheem said they would give me $570 only to compensate for their faulty compressor but after spending half of summer 2020 with no a/c whatsoever, and countless hours on the phone with two different Reps, I have received nothing. Comically, the last correspondence I received was a rep explaining I'd receive the $570 after I paid the installer in full myself. When I questioned this and asked how this would be done procedurally, they went dark...have not heard from them in months. I have literally spent 20-25 hours trying to recoup their measly $570 offer. At this point, I do not want another Rheem system and am pursuing alternatives.

Less than a year ago, I had two brand-new Rheem heat pumps installed to the tune of $16,000. One of these units had a factory defect which resulted in nearly $1,600 in electric overages (as the defect made it so that our home was unknowingly running on the ‘emergency heat’ setting for two months). As soon as I realized that something was amiss, I contacted the company – where their customer service agent led me to believe that such charges would be reimbursed provided it was deemed a defective part. HOWEVER, given the situation with COVID, she also informed me that unfortunately no agents would be able to do a home visit – and therefore the defect could not be verified.
After reaching out to the HVAC installation crew, they were able to connect directly with Rheem and arrange for agents to come take a look. From my first contact, to the date of that visit, was 14 days. With a two-month old infant in our home, it was not an option to forgo heat during this time… and I shared my concerns with the customer service agent that with each passing day, we were accruing $30 in additional heating expenses.
When representatives were sent – presumably as ‘damage control’ their conduct was unprofessional and abhorrent. Unbelievably rude and condescending to the HVAC technician (who had been nothing but kind and solution-oriented), one agent told the technician he needed to “teach him a lesson.” As a business owner myself, this is not acceptable behavior for anyone working on behalf of the company– much less, in a customer-facing position. I felt bad for the technician who was demeaned in the presence of customers as the Rheem rep arrogantly passed the onus of responsibility onto him.
Prior to selecting these heating units, I did ample research. I decided upon Rheem because of their strong reputation and quality products. It is unconscionable to me that in these unprecedented times, there has yet to be any sort of restitution for expenses incurred as a result of a FACTORY DEFECT. Simply replacing the unit is not satisfactory… that is a given, as the product (at less than a year old) is still well under warranty. Reimbursement for the time spent with a faulty product that, once identified, wasn’t even replaced in a timely manner should be a given.
In good faith, I have been beyond patient in awaiting resolution. Again, as per my initial conversation with Rheem’s customer service agent, my burden of proof was met. Curiously, when I requested full transcripts of those phone calls to verify what had been communicated to me, Rheem avoided providing said documents. Instead, I was provided with a copy of the warranty and an accompanying letter from the supervisor stating that there is "no accommodation for utility charges" (despite this being explicitly stated nowhere within the warranty he himself provided). So basically, their faulty product, and the subsequent delay ran up my electric bill, and they see themselves as being at no fault for the issue, or their slow response (during which I continued to be charged at the emergency rates)... Not to mention, the time I had to take off work to deal with this mess between phone calls and the visits with technicians and reps.
Never in my life have I written a negative review... and yet I find myself compelled to do so as I feel so wronged. All in all, this experience has been a failure at every turn of the road, and months on, I am still awaiting an appropriate response and the compensation which they have previously acknowledged I am due, given the factory defect. Their products (when not defective) may well be great. However, in my experience, they are unwilling to stand behind them in moments where it counts.

Please before you buy a Rheem HVAC, research the quality of their coils. A year after purchasing a new system I have been experiencing dirty sock syndrome. It is a known issue with the coil and there is a known fix, the coils need to be dipped with in a bronzing solution or an epoxy. This prevents mold and bacteria buildup on the coils and then spewing the spores throughout your home. Rheem calls it an environmental issue and refuses to reimburse for the costs to have the problem remedied. After installation either a UV light or a Global Plasma System at my expense, my issue may be resolved, again Rheem refuses to reimburse my costs. I am also reading that their coils have a problem with corrosion and failure, once again a problem corrected by dipping to prevent the corrosion.
Buyer beware, the limited warranty is just that, extremely limited, no labor to replace defective parts, no Freon replacement costs on defective equipment, no labor to correct their known issue with dirty sock syndrome. I guess they think these things just magically fix themselves. I bought my unit from an authorized Rheem dealer and was told these were some of the best units on the market.

It is definitely a sorry unit. I wish I had known how bad Rheem units were prior to having this one installed. I trusted the person, whom I know personally, to help me, not rip me off. My elderly mother also has a Rheem and the motor on her new unit went out a few weeks after the unit was installed.

Because it was 17 years old & started having small problems, we decided to purchase a new one, which was a Rheem. Btw, we lived in another home prior to this one & that a/c (not a Rheem) was still working great when we sold that home 20 years later. After having the new one for two years, the coil was leaking & all rusted out. It was under warranty, but the labor to install a new one cost us just under $500. Almost six years after that, just recently, the compressor went out. The charge to relace it (labor) plus refrigerant is $1600.
We purchased a new a/c unit so we wouldn't have to be putting more money into an old unit, wouldn't have to be inconvenienced & uncomfortable. We now have bigger & more expensive problems with the a/c than we had before. Rheem makes an inferior product & I wouldn't wish this product on anyone. Do not buy from Rheem, you'll be sorry. P.S. The agent said, "No worries, we will reimburse." The tech came out to install a new thermocouple (not too bad only $$20) and it was done, but there was a part it connected to that was defective. We called back and asked about the part needed. He said that it would take several days for it to be shipped here. We have a 2 year old and an 8 year old, not acceptable. But for a $30 fee, they would overnight it. Ok, now I am out another $30. 2 days later the tech came back to put it on. He showed us the parts and remarked how better quality the new part was. Alas, that didn't work either. It needed a new brain. Which was not cheap ($128). The tech purchased it and now I have hot water. I was thrilled.
I called to see where I sent the receipts and was transferred to get a claim number. I got a claim number, but was then told I had to submit it all online, once I received their email. OK. I get the information emailed and it states that they only reimburse up to $125 for a tech fee. WTH!!! Are you kidding. So - 2 hours of work on a Sunday ($85 an hour typically with the discount), but it is time and a half (on Sunday) $212.50 plus another 2 hours when they got the new part, going after the brain, plus labor was another $170. Total tech fee was $382.50 labor. So I guess their agent wasn't aware of this $125 max, but that is not my fault. Guess if that is their policy, then it's tough dodo for me.

We have a Sure Comfort system and have had issues since installation. It has had numerous leaks that we have had to get replacement parts for and there has been a tiny leak over the last eight years that no one can find. So twice a year we have to get the refrigerant recharged at our cost. There should be a lemon law for these! And, keep your warranty as it may save you a few dollars on parts (mine did not cover labor or refrigerant). They will test you on the warranty limits! Hope you get better than we have received!

I contacted customer service 479-648-4900 and spoke to Cody regarding having to install another aluminum coil after 16 months. She explained; “The coil is under warranty for five years however the homeowner is responsible for the cost of all labor and refrigerant.” Well the cost for labor and refrigerant is $1400 to remove a defective coil and install another (no doubt) defective coil. After reading through other reviews of RHEEM’s defective coils and the cost to remove and install, I’ve decided to replace their crap with a reliable system. Taking into consideration that their coils continue to fail, I anticipate having to pay $100-$150 a month as a cost to owning a RHEEM HVAC system. I will also be posting my comments on other sites, not only to inform prospective buyers, but to seek relief from gov't agencies since this is a consumer issue that Rheem is fully aware of!

Purchased a new Furnace and Air Conditioner in 2013 and have had nothing but problems. In 2017 the air conditioner was leaking gas and needed a new evaporation coil. At first we were told that the coil was not covered under warranty but after some investigation on our part we figured out that it was indeed covered, however we had labour cost of over one thousand dollars.
This year during a bad cold snap the furnace broke down and needed a new blower. The blower had to be ordered from the States which took 2 weeks to arrive. The blower is not covered by warranty so we were on the hook for the labour as well which was again well over one thousand dollars. Now 2 months later the furnace has stopped working once again and it appears to be the same issue so it’s a cold waiting game until after the weekend to find out what’s wrong this time. Honestly unless you have an unlimited budget for repairs I would stay well away from this product!

We had a new air handler installed in our condo in the spring of 2014. Since that time, we have had the evaporator coil replaced three times and the blower motor replaced once. Although Rheem offers a ten year warranty for the parts, they will not pony up for labor for the customers out of pocket expenses. It cost me $1450. Despite the fact the coils are obviously defective, Rheem will not take any responsibility for a product that is less than reliable. The fire department pulled out the electrical system to make sure the fire was out. I sprayed a whole can of fire extinguisher in my garage. Made a huge mess. Didn’t care. I called. They said they would find a technician. They didn’t. I had to find one. Finally after a lot of calling found one. Got amount authorization from them. I submitted my invoice twice instead of invoice and receipt, resubmitted with corrected info. Now they want my credit card bill to verify the receipt was real!!! They all need to be subjected to having on fire in their home. So they also won’t cover the extra $200 for the new water heater which I wouldn’t of had to get if the one they sold hadn’t started on fire. So please don’t ever buy anything from them. We purchased a new direct vent gas hot water heater online though Home Depot in September. Right from the installation we have had issues with the tank not working. The first problem was the vapour sensor. It was faulty and therefore the tank was not staying on to heat. The sensor was replaced and then the tank stopped again. The tech that came out said the issue was with a valve that was not working. We ordered a valve, had it installed and this time the problem was not resolved, even for a few days. The tech said we needed another part which was ordered. Of course, going into a weekend, so we had to wait more than the 2-3 days they promise for delivery. We have been without hot water for 6 days in January, during a very cold snap in Edmonton! We've had to shower at the gym and wash dishes in cold water. Not impressed at all! Updated on 01/24/2020: Just an update to my first post. Just got another look at my electric usage since installing this unit...UP HIGHER than the previous month. It seems the unit runs excessively. Part of that I believe is due to the amount of cold air it blows at the end of the cycle...keeps it in a constant cycle. What a waste of $6,000 dollars. DO NOT BUY.
Original Review: We had the system installed in November 2019 and I just received our first electric bill covering a full month of service. What a disappointment! Our electric bill DOUBLED during that month. So much for energy efficient! Compared to a year ago, with a 16 year old unit, during the same period it was higher. Technician checked, said there was nothing wrong. So clearly they are simply do not offer the energy savings we were told to expect. I will not recommend this.

Our tankless water heater failed within the extended warranty time, no problem, we will just contact Rheem customer service and get them to send a new one. Paid $80 in shipping, installed the water heater, errors out with an ambiguous error code 13 while using water at a normal flow rate. Dozens of calls to Rheem customer service, they tell us we need to have gas guy come out and check our gas service. We have to pay $200 for that check of the service, and it turns out the service is fine. Call Rheem about their defective unit and advise gas is fine, they start their "claim" for sending another replacement unit, another $80 for shipping.
We have not had hot water now for weeks and will be waiting for another week and a half for a new one to be installed. I started looking into the company to find out that, they have a TON of defective units out there and unfairly expect the customer to shoulder the burden of proof, and costs associated with shipping, inspection, and installation. One unit failed within 9 months and needed a new fan motor and the third unit managed to last two years and needed a new condensing fan motor. For what you pay for these systems I can't even see one of them failing this quickly but three systems is inexcusable and I don't run my air conditioning hard at all. I keep my house at 81 degrees and the two other houses are kept at about 75 or 76 degrees. There is no excuse for these units to fail this quickly.
Every time I call Rheem they just tie me up in questions about serial numbers and product numbers and they never give me a firm answer as to why the systems failed so quickly and they obviously have never made any offer to reimburse the expenses of repairing these systems. The first two were covered under the warranty. The third one was not because it failed in two years so I was stuck paying for the repair. I'm actually afraid to use my air conditioning for what might break down next and I can't see these systems lasting 10 or 20 years. Each time it costs about $450.00 = $1000 so I have spent over $2000,00 in the last 9 years for these pieces of JUNK. CLass Action Lawsuit needs to happen. Why do I have to pay the labor to constantly replace parts that are under warranty? Company should stand behind their products.

Now, this last winter (2018), I started getting huge electric bills and realized the heat pump was running almost continuously. The cause was eventually determined to be a leaking coil in the air handler in the basement. Since we're not the original purchaser of the HVAC equipment, none of it is covered under the factory warranty. But the installer advised that these Rheem/Ruud coils are leaking on almost all of the units made around that 2012 time-frame, and it's throwing good money after bad to spend the $1000+ to repair it, vs buying a whole new system. At this point, I'm just waiting for the 2nd. floor unit to fail as well...

I replaced my 15 yr old HVAC unit with a Rheem about 3 years ago. Since then, I've had the fan unit outside replaced in yr 2 as it was unbalanced. Not from misuse and not from damage. That leaves quality. Now in yr 3 I have a blower unit that is acting up and goes into alarm so frequently we'll turn the system off at night as there is no way to suppress the alarm. The tech said that the control unit in the motor senses hesitation in the motor and throws the alarm. When the blower doesn't start a second alarm is thrown for the main limit switch. A061F and T022F are the codes shown on the EcoNet t-stat display. The system is still under warranty but I'll end up paying over $300 in labor to replace another major component due to another quality issue. My old system wore out but never had issues like this. I would advise anyone NOT to buy a Rheem. Hope their QA people read this.

I would give zero stars if I could. To make a long story tolerable to read, I purchased a new unit to the tune of over 3,000.00 with a 10-year warranty. I signed all the papers and used my own credit card to purchase. The warranty document states the Warranty is to the Purchaser- in 4-5 different places it states this. Now they will not honor my warranty because the house was not in my name at the time of installation. (I inherited the house) They claim they meant Owner, who is usually the purchaser. Well it doesn't state that. I sent a certified letter to the CEO and when I didn't hear back after a month I called yesterday and was told there wasn't even going to be a written reply. We purchased a Rheem system in 2017. The system was installed by one of Rheem's listed contractors. After one year, the system began to malfunction and blow water into the ductwork and house. The unit in the garage overflowed and began to leak into the garage causing water damage. Ceilings inside the house were damaged by mold and water leakage. This caused extensive damage. Mold began to form around ductwork and near air conditioning outlets inside the house. I have not before had an A/C system malfunction in this way after just one year. Very poor quality system and I would recommend other more reliable brands over this.
Both the installer and the company do not care and refuse to stand by their product. Even though their product is at fault they want the consumer to pay to fix the problems they caused by selling a bad product. They will not fix the damage caused or repair the system or take responsibility for their own mistakes. They sell a faulty product which malfunctions after just 1 year then to cause more costly repairs. They apparently design their products to fail after 1 year so you are forced to spend more money with them for expensive repairs! If you want an A/C system that will run problem free for at least 5 years then I would recommend against them. Many people cannot afford these enormous expenses due to a faulty product. We have had difficulty contacting Rheem, they have no contact phone numbers and simply do not care. Stay away from Rheem.

Bought it in April of 2017. Called up and registered the warranty the day it was installed, gave all information and documentation I was asked for. Died on Nov 1 2018, called the number on the water heater, was told the labor warranty was expired but parts were in warranty so they'd send the part, got the part on Tuesday, got it installed and still got 7 flashing red lights, so called back on Wednesday, the second tech I talked to on Wednesday said two failures of the same part were considered a complete failure. I'd have to bring the water heater back to point of purchase and they'd replace it.
As we talked she offhandedly mentions that it had a 9 yr part warranty and a 2 yr labor warranty (since I'd been told it was out of warranty I was under impression that the labor was 1 yr) and that the labour had expired in August. I told her I had purchased it in April, she had me email the receipt and serial number to another email. That night I got an email that my warranty was updated and if I had any problems to call 800-432-8373, so first thing Thursday morning I called and they said they'd schedule a service technician to come replace it and I'd be contacted within one business day with the name of the service tech and the appointment time.
A short time later I got an email stating "Thank you for contacting Rheem. A request for labor coverage has been submitted to our Dispatch team for processing. You will either receive a call from our dispatch team with labor options or from an independent contractor in your area within 1 business day to setup an appointment. Labor coverage includes the repair or replacement of any part of the water heater due to defect in material or workmanship. If you do not receive a call within 1 business day, you may call 800-248-3553 Mon-Sat 8AM-8PM ET for further assistance."
So, I don't hear anything further on Thursday, and I don't hear anything on Friday. So Friday night I tried to call but it was after 8 pm et, so I called again Saturday morning. I explained my situation and asked why I hadn't been contacted with any update within one business day like I was promised. The person I talked to (never Identified herself, but her "manager" said her name was Leah) told me that the techs don't dispatch service people, they created a ticket on Thursday which went to dispatch who created a rework ticket on Friday and it's Saturday and I'm talking to the person whose job it is to call the service people and schedule them and if I'd let her do her job she'd call and see if someone was available.
She put me on hold and came back and said, "Nobody is answering so they're probably closed for the weekend. I'll call them on Monday and see if they'll come out, or I can give you a warranty claim number and you can do it yourself." Kind of ** since if your people hadn't been slow walking it and had contacted me on Friday LIKE PROMISED I could have called on Friday and had someone scheduled to work on Saturday or Sunday, but since it's already Saturday I cant contact anyone until Monday. She then told me if there's nothing else shes hanging up. I had to stop her and ask to talk to a manager, who told me if I didnt want to wait until Monday for someone to be called she could give me a warranty claim number so I could call someone myself.
She also said she had to defend Leah's behavior because she such a good and loyal employee and Leah was the only person who could possibly handle my claim. She also refused to admit that your company failed in any way in upholding your promise to contact me within one business day, telling me she understood why I would feel that way (without specifying what "way" I was feeling). Very well trained to be noncommittal. Cant think of another company that's given me such horrible customer service in the last decade.

I went to the Rheem's website and attempted to leave a message. However after a few attempts I realized that I wasn't being allowed to leave a message.
I live in California and began calling at 0630 but didn't get through to a person until after 0800. I explained the symptoms and I was told that they would send out a technician. Silly me assumed that they meant today. I called again after 1300 to get a time we should expect this technician. I was required to go through the entire story again because they didn't appear as if they bothered to keep any records. I was told that they needed to send me a part. However the warehouse was now closed. I asked why they didn't ship it out this morning when I first called. Again it didn't seem as if they bother to keep any records. I asked for the name of the company/technician who will do the repair so that I might contact them to see if by some stroke of luck they had a part in stock. Rheem didn't have a name to give me.
So now I'm waiting for a part to arrive sometime Wednesday or Thursday and then for some unnamed technician to come out and install it on some other day.Expecting a customer to be without hot water for a week because of a $50 part is asinine, especially today with overnight shipping, etc. Like I said there was absolutely no urgency on Rheem's part to do anything that might convenience a customer.

I should not be out of pocket $1,460 dollars on labor and supplies related to a faulty AC unit in a 5 year period when the warranty is for 10 years.
But Rheem will just quote you chapter and verse like Stepford Wives instead of assuming one ounce of responsibility. If this is how Rheem operates, I will not need to wait long to have the last laugh. My A/C contractor has already stopped carrying their brand due to poor quality and customer complaints. After having spent a non-consecutive time span of 15 hours on hold between Rheem and Home Depot, I was continuously growing more and more frustrated. Yep, because of these people, I had been 2 months without hot water, and all of the fun that that brings (YAY!). That was over two weeks ago.
Two days ago, I received my new water heater--sorta. They botched the delivery. It was supposed to be delivered to my house, but instead, they shipped it to Home ** Depot, so I had to scramble out of work, and go pick up the thing--did I mention it was delivered a day late? On my work Monday, and I do not work in an industry where you can just pick up and go. I open the box to find, a dent about the size of a baseball, or so--but it gets better. The box was undamaged. They had to ship it in this condition, knowingly. I have emailed them, I have tried calling them, but I have yet to hear back.
I am appalled, by this level of unprofessionalism, and lack of quality oversight. And after reading the preceding reviews, I can assure anyone who reads this, that Rheem will never, ever receive any of my business, ever again, and I do not understand why anyone would give them theirs. We paid the tech and now a year and a half later, we started having the same problem... the AC isn't cooling again!! Called a tech and he said our coil needs to be replaced and it would still cost us "after the warranty", about $1,000.00!! This is ridiculous for only 5 years of use!! You might as well say it started in the "3" year old time period because of the first service call for "not cooling"! I am disabled with a fixed income and my mother doesn't make a lot of money either.
If there is a problem with the parts (Rheem) that they are installing in people's homes, they need to fix it "FREE" of charge! Something has to be done by Rheem immediately! I was not even aware of this problem that Rheem was having! The last service done on my Rheem unit was only a temporary solution and soon the coils will fail completely and hopefully not cause any damage to my home in the process! Friday called toll free number see if warranty would cover parts that need to be replaced and work. Rheem calls back to inform us that we live too far away from a tech to send one. That we would have to call the plumber ourselves and pay for all work. We then send the invoice to Rheem and they decide if they will reimburse us for it, but only up to $125.

Costs covered by the famous Rheem 10 years’ warranty $0.00. Likelihood that Rheem/Ruud will ever see my business or anyone I know again 0%. This short-sighted strategy creates an incentive to produce subpar products. I highly recommend looking at another heating and air supplier and pay close attention to what they cover in their warranty.

I filed a warranty claim with the company via their web form with all the required information. Rheem never responded one way or the other, on a water heater that failed after just two years on a 6 year warranty. During installation we discovered that half of the gas heating unit was missing. Rheem graciously sent us a new heating unit, though, as it turned out, even that was defective, but was able to repair with locally sourced parts. Between my father and I we have used Rheem water heaters in this house for over 60 years, but obviously, there must be new management, who neither cares about quality control or fairness in business practices. Had the one fail after 3 years and was told I had to bring it to Home Depot myself and then Home Depot only gave me a credit for lowest sale price of the unit instead of even exchange. Anywho as I needed a water heater and I'd rather use the credit then lose it all I decided to pay the difference and bought the platinum edition unit with the 12 year warranty with 3 year in home labor coverage. However, 2 hours after install I noticed the pan was filled with dirty water. Turned out the internal tank failed. POOR quality control. No way this tank was tested at 300psi as the sticker states. Maybe the brand but not my specific tank!
So meanwhile I just got done lugging old one into Home Depot, then this one home, installed etc. Now been trying to reach Rheem for 5 days straight but they are having phone issues. Finally get ahold of them and am told it's under warranty so I can on my own dime and my own hurting back uninstall this unit, drive it to Home Depot and exchange it even though paperwork and stickers on tank say DO NOT RETURN TO STORE... So I guess this 12 year warranty just means that I'm able to install/uninstall for exchanges for a period of 12 years worth of crap merchandise? What is the point in having a 3 year labor in home warranty if they won't send anyone to my home!

He started up the unit and said we needed new parts and he would call Rheem to let them know which parts need to be shipped to the house. I called Rheem on Friday the 29th because the unit stopped producing hot water again and the parts were never ordered. We've been without hot water since Friday the 29th. Hold time to speak to customer service is 40 minutes. I've been calling everyday 2 to 3 times a day to see if the parts were ordered and still have no answer. I got a teenaged millennial who had never installed a water heater and clearly wanted me off the queue. I got exactly one question, what's the voltage across the incoming electrical leads. Despite both leads providing 120VAC, I was told it was an electrical problem, determined by ONE test, and dismissed. No other diagnostics were performed and no interest in what, where are when anything happened. Describing the problem and steps taken was of no interest to the teenager on the other end. Clearly designed to avoid actual customer service. So if you want to talk to a know-it-all teenager on a phone in a cube, call Rheem customer support. We moved into our new place in 2012 and a month later the Rheem gas hot water heater blew its side. We were relieved to find it was under warranty but it still cost us $600 to have the new unit installed. One month less than 5 years, the HW heater blew its side again flooding our basement. I called Rheem and they told me there is no warranty on this unit since it was already a warranty replacement. I tried demanding a better solution than that but the person hung up on me and I never heard back from them despite numerous attempts.
I have a family of 6 and need hot water so I had to get a new unit a.s.a.p. It cost $2000 all in. I am livid that such a huge company can't back up their products. When they realize you have had issues with their product the first thing you hope to hear from them is "Sorry you're having trouble with our products, Sir. The reinstall was done badly and I was engaged in a 6 month back and forth battle with the installers to get Rheem to at consider paying the labor but no deal. Now Oct. 2017, the Coil has failed again and will also need to be replaced. The quality of these Rheem Units is very poor. I am told the coils are aluminum and they do not last long when in contact with dissimilar metals. Rheem doesn't care how many times you replace them as long as you keep coming back for more. They are also made in Mexico if that has anything to do with it. If that were not enough, I live in a condo and there are many of these units here, many of them have had coils fail and been replaced.

Updated on 06/10/2020: Update. I continue to have issues with the 2017 Rheem air conditioner installed at my house. Rheem never followed up on my calls. I had a twenty year old Carrier that worked better and gave less problems at 20yrs. Don’t let anyone convince you to install a Rheem. It is loud, the motor failed once In 2019 and is failing again in 2020. Capacitor failed in 2019. It does not cool well and is more expensive pushing up my electricity bill. How my twenty year unit was cheaper to run is beyond me but Rheem managed to manufacture something less efficient than a unit twenty years old. If you want to quit your job and dedicate your life to dealing with AC problems, this is the unit for you.
Original review: Royal Air and Heating in Dallas installed a Rheem unit at my house. The unit is extremely loud and it is like living next to a ship’s engine room. Even the Addison inspector who came out on the permit said the unit sounds like a 40 year old unit. The Rheem unit replaced a 20 yr old unit and the new Rheem unit is much louder than the old unit. It is also next to the master bedroom, so you cannot sleep in that room. In June 2017, when the unit was installed, Royal Air and Heating said a Rheem rep will have to come out and check it. It is now the end of September 2017 and still no Rheem rep has come to check the unit.
I also contacted Rheem. They called me back and said they will follow up. They never did. Don't allow anyone to install one of these units at your house. It is a headache and you will not get any customer service. And, you will be waiting forever for a Rheem rep to come out. Surprised this awful company is still in business. Royal Air decided to install Rheem though I raised issues based on the reviews I saw. However, I had no choice since through home warranty. I also had to pay approximately $1,300 for upgrades, etc. And, this is what I am left with, an obnoxiously loud unit that infringes on my quality of life because I can no longer sleep in the master room. It is so loud.

The Valve which monitors the flow of the Freon just stopped working, so no cooling at all. & 189.00 to install a lubricating oil to see if it work. Then if it does not work, Replace the monitor/valve. Cost of replacing the part which is still under warranty will be $1400.00. Finally a replacement COIL was manufactured. Now the fan and motor needs to be replaced and I have to wait for the part. We had a Rheem 5 ton A/C unit installed a couple of years ago. Our installer is a great person and has installed other units in our home. This unit, however, has never cooled. I have records of my many calls and emails to him. He has come to our home more times than I can count. He over engineered the duct work, etc to try to get this unit to cool but still, no luck. I called the supplier here in Nashville and he offered me a couple hundred dollars from their slush fund for dissatisfied customers (eye roll) to contribute toward my service fees that I am having to pay to get this NEW $7,000 unit serviced.
Recently, we had freon added but it continues to run 24/7 and can't cool the rooms. I am told that it is so much more efficient and that is one of the reasons it is not as effective as our old unit (which we wish we could get back). I have evidence that our electric bill has gone up significantly in the summer months since we have had this unit. Also, we have four A/C units in our home and yet, for these upstairs bedrooms, we have to run FANS in the summer and today I actually considered buying a separate room A/C unit for a couple of bedrooms so they are livable. THAT was when I realized that this unit is going to be removed.
We have decided to remove the unit entirely asap and then pursue legal recourse with Rheem. There is no way to contact them. Zero. They hide behind a cloak. We are contacting an attorney in the morning and possibly, he will be able to reach Rheem. I can't help but wonder if there are more people out there with this same experience. I was told by either my service rep or the supplier that they realized that they had a problem and have changed a coil system or something. I need to go back through my notes. I am so frustrated with not only the hot upstairs but also for all of the time and effort that I have had to put into this.
Furthermore, I now have to pursue it all legally so that will require much time, etc. SO, BEFORE YOU INSTALL AN A/C, MAKE SURE YOU ASK YOUR INSTALLER IF HE HAS EVER HAD A PROBLEM IN THE PAST. We trusted our installer and more importantly the manufacturer - RHEEM- and they gave us a bad unit and will do nothing about it. My hope is that we can also charge them for service fees AND attorney fees. My email address is ** if you have this issue as well. This company needs to stand behind their products instead of behind their installers and suppliers.

It worked for only an hour and then shut off and could not be restarted. My licensed contractor called the telephone number on the Rheem water heater 866-279-4566 as directed on the label attached to the water heater. He was treated unbelievably rudely and was instructed to take the entire burner mechanism out of the water heater which involved disconnecting all the internal gas lines and wires!!! We explained that it was illegal for us to do that since we had neither the tools or instructions to ensure that there was no gas leak upon reassembly. In response the Rheem technician stated, "Just do it and call me back." He then hung up on us.
I called back and spoke to another technician who was even more rude to me when I asked her for permission to return the defective heater to Home Depot. Her reply was, "No, that's your problem." When I reminded her that my unit was under warranty and that I had it installed only two hours earlier, she told me that a technician would call me within two business day to schedule an appointment. I then asked to speak to her supervisor to which she replied sarcastically, "Sure" and then she hung up on me.
I then called Home Depot in East Capital Expressway in San Jose California and spoke to the assistant manager there, Paul, who was just wonderful and told me to bring the defective unit back to the store for a replacement unit. Home Depot gets an A+++ from me for their responsible and outstanding service. Upon investigation and numerous calls I became aware that the company is selling units with copper coils (aluminum is the best choice) that are eaten through by the Freon and thus cause leaks in the coils which and in turn the unit shuts down.
The company denies that they are having significant problems and will not help me financially address the repair. So, at this time I am repairing my air conditioner from my own "Pocket" even though I bought the units in good faith along with the assurance that Ruud/Rheem was a trustworthy company, WHICH THEY HAVE PROVEN ARE NOT TO BE.
When I called the company, the customer service representative was in complete denial of the problem and I think they were trained to say certain pat answers to avoid liability. I purchased an entirely-new Rheem heating and cooling system in very early 2013 (paid in full 3/2/13), having the RASL048JEC compressor-condenser unit, and RGPE-07NBRQR air handler/gas furnace unit. The Rheem compressor is a microprocessor-controlled, dual compressor design. From summer of 2014 onward, this compressor will "latch up" and not self-recover from any disturbance of the AC power coming to my home: brief power outages or brownouts will cause it to stay off. Originally, just pulling the fuse cartridges for 2-3 minutes and re-inserting... would make the unit recover.
After 2015, this easy fix no longer works: now the compressor unit needs to have the cover removed such that the "technician" can do a "hard-reset" of the microcontroller boards by pressing circuit board switches to clear the (saved and displayed) error codes. Two weeks ago the A/C would not come on but "error code 21" was showing, and this was traced to a Freon leak in the ADP-manufactured evaporator coil. This is a known problem with Rheem A/C units having the original copper coil; my local A/C contractor, Alaskan Home Services, had to change out three (3) such coils... including mine on the same day. The new ADP coil appears to have the same model number as the old (copper) coil, but it has aluminum tubing rather than copper. Checking online, it appears that evap coil "failure" in Rheem units is a widespread problem; there is even an attempt at a class-action lawsuit on this issue.
Now yet another "new" problem has surfaced with the furnace / air handler unit: gas burner comes on, but the duct fan does not, resulting in an "error code 46" on the controller board for the air handler... and the burner shuts off. And this came after the evaporator coil repair. I am really upset that this high-cost system is so unreliable... especially since it was bought with reliability in mind. Additional issue: Alaskan now charges me a "diagnostic fee" for coming out... although my old paperwork on the extended PMA ("preventative maintenance agreement") was supposed to be all-inclusive contract, with no trip or travel time charges. Review of the PMA paperwork shows "diagnostic fee" ABSENT as a topic.
