First I would like to say that we have had Maytag dishwasher for years and love it.. Now the refrigerator. We bought a Maytag Plus about 5 or 6 years ago. It has the worst ice maker we have ever had. The ice jams when we try to get ice out and builds up inside, then we have to open the freezer door to get it loose. When we do this of course the ice spills all over the floor. Sometimes it just has a big clump of ice that stops ice from coming out. We will probably never buy a Maytag refrigerator again because of this.

I purchased a French door bottom freezer Sept. 2006. March 5, 2008 a voltage board had to be replaced at cost--$203.29. Today October 3, 2008 ice maker had to be replaced--Cost--$377.68. I am 80 years old and have always had a refrigerator and have never had to have one repaired. It seems to me there is something wrong with a Maytag refrigerator and people should know about it.

Bought this new as Hme Depot. Lucky I bought the extended service. First the ice maker went out. Now the whole unit isnt working. Compressor seems to be shot. Less than two years old, and it seems there are alot of complaints on the net about Maytag. Anyway, all my food an frozen items are ruined. I noticed when cleaning the back of the unit, the compressor is made in Brazil. Maytag obviously outsources most of the unit. What a piece of junk.

I will never buy a Maytag product again, ever! My old fridge was about twenty years old an still working, and never a problem. Had to go to H.Depot. At least they loaned me a small unit so I have something for the weekend. Home Depot should not carry any Maytag products. Even the people at the store says they have nothing but complaints.

On or abt. Nov. 1, 2006, I purchased a side-by-side Maytag refrigerator from Home Depot. Less than 11 months later, I discovered that it had stopped cooling and everything in it, including meats & frozen vegetables in the freezing compartment had thawed, were smelling bad, and had to be thrown away.

I called Home Depot and they said it was not their responsibility and I had to call Maytag Repair. I did. They said it would take 10 days to get a repairman out. So much for their famous (and false) TV ads about the Maytag repairman with nothing to do. I told them I needed a working refrigerator. They didn't care. Ten days .. take it or leave it. The repairman showed up on the assigned 10 days later and replaced the defective cooling unit. The warranty was still in effect.

Now, here it is September 2008, less than a year later and the same thing has happened: the refrigerator is not cooling and I've lost everything in the freezer again (It's getting costly to keep replacing meats & fdrozen vegetables!) Apparently the repairman gave me another defective cooling unit ... or Home Depot sold me a lemon. I am just furious about this. Now I will have wait another 10 days and this time the 1-year manufacturer's warranty is over.

Should I have to pay for a defective replacement cooler or demand a replacement refrigerator for this lemon I was sold? I'm at wit's end on this. Can you advise me of my consumer rightd in thid matter? Thank you.

Wasted meat & vegetables. Not being able to put items in the refrigerator for 10 days at a time .. not to mention anger & stress (I'm doing chemotherapy and don't need this stress).

Purchased Maytag MFD 2560 French door refrigerator in Sept 2004. This past weekend Sept 2008 the unit stopped working. Called maytag for service and was told they would be there on Tuesday morning. Called service company tuesday morning and was told they could not be here until Wednesday morning. Called Maytag back they were able to get another authorized repair company to come out tuesday afternoon. I met the repairmen at the house in checked the unit and said the board was bad. I asked him why that would cause the compressor not to run and he stated that the boardssometimes do not allow the proper voltage to the compressor causing the compressor not to run.

He went to a supply house and came back replaced the board and compressor still did not run. He than checked the charge and found the unit had leaked the freon out. He repaired leak and changed compressor out, but instead of charging the system with the original freon (R-134a) he used a differant refrigerant (R414b) I questioned him on this and he stated that the supply house did not have any R-134a and this was the same thing. He than added the wrong refrigerant never evacuating the system or weighing the charge in. He than stated that the capilarry tube was plugged and that he would call the factory for advice. The factory astated that there was a fix kit a whole new evaporator section and capilarry tube replacement. But he would have to drilll holes in the back of the unit to do this work.

I am experienced with Refrigeration having been in the field for 30+ years. I called Maytag again to complain and asked if I could talk to a technician/Enginer. I was firmly told that customers are not allowed to discuss repairs with any one but the authorized repairman. I firmly told them that the work was done improperly and they stated that they would have a technician call the repairman and discuss how to repir the refrigerator.

I again asked to talk with a experienced enginner and was told Maytag/ Whirlpool would not put anything in writing or allow me to discuus this with anyone. My option would be to have another Maytag authorized service company come out ( another service charge to me) and review the situation. All I can say DO NOT BUY Maytag products they do not stand behind there product or services.

I bought a Maytag refrigerator from Home Depot in March 2007. And I started using the refrigerator after my marriage which was late in May. After 3 months later I noticed that the food and water in the cooler were not as cold as before. And I noticed that there was ice building up in back of the freezer part. I thought either my wife or I didn't close the door well. So I melted ice by turning off the machine. It took me serveral hours to remove the ice in the freezer. Right after that it seemed to be working again. But another 3 months later it happened again.

So I called Maytag to find out if there's a way to replace the machine. It's happened after short period of time after the purchase. Maytag said I'll have to get the service. They don't have any service like replacement. Since it's in warranty period I called A&E Fatory service to check the problem.

Technitian came and check the machine and he used hair blower to melt the ice. He said it seems working again. If it happens again he will order parts and replace. And 2 months later I see the ice built in the back of the freezer again. So technitian came and order the parts. It took me almost a month to receive all the parts.

After the parts were replaced, it seemed working ok. But it just took little bit longer(5-6 months) to have ice built in freezer. This time I tried the hair blower to melt down the ice. After I did that, this time it only last a month. So I called the A&E service and made a servoce schdule. This time the technitian called me and said the warranty was over last March so if he comes today then there'll be a charge to check the problem. and he mentioned that there's no such a service like replacement. I'll have to get the service no matter what even if it happens 100 times or 1000 times. It was ridiculous. If i have to get a service every 3~5 months, what's the point to keep this machine. I'm thinking to buy new one instead of paying service charge.

I had to throw away the food and beverages in the cooler every time I got service. I had to have a day off from work to get service the machine. And my wife and I got stressed out over a year dealing with repeating problem.

In August of 2004 we purchased a Maytag French Door refrigerator (model MFD2560HEW) from our local Lowes. This August, 2008, we discovered the refrigerator was not cooling. Luckily we discovered it early and we had an Amana side by side in the basement, mosly used for beer and sodas. We lost a very minimal amount of food. But when we tried to get it fixed, (five year warranty), the real problems started. First I called Whirlpool. They said yes it is covered but we don't service your area.

So I called Lowes. Their service people said they would send someone that could fix it under warranty. Wrong. The guy came and looked, said the compressor had failed. he said actually he would not have had to look, they all fail. Anyway, when I asked about warranty he said he didn't do warranty but could fix it COD. Price on the compressor, $1200, and that wasn't even installed. I figured there must be a way to get warranty repairs so I said no thanks. He said OK, that will be $85.00 diagnostic fee please. So I paid the guy, he's just trying to make a buck.

I then called Whirlpool again, got a customer service person and explained the situation. She apologized profusely, said she would need to take the problem to her supervisors since they had no service where we live (Culpeper County, VA). She promised to call back within 24 hours. As has been noted in some of the other complaints they don't call back. I told my wife they wouldn't if this website was right. They didn't.

Next my wife says 'let's go to Lowes '. So we got the receipt and the manual and off we went. I figured she was fired up so I'd let her do the talking. She got the manager and the appliance guy and they looked in the computer and talked and himmed and hawed. Finally the manager says to go back and pick out a new refrigerator. My wife says, 'bottom line, what's it going to cost me?' Manager says 'nothing'.

So today we received a brand new Samsung, 26 cubic door French door refrigerator. Free! Kudos go to Lowes. The appliance guy said if the manufacturer doesn't step up to the warranty, Lowes will. And they did.

I called for service and the A&E tech showed up late morning on 7/16/08. He reported the Compressor had seized up and required a replacement. I asked Joetta at Maytag service for a replacement REfrigerator but she said it was not their policy but she could expedite a compressor shipment in about 2 days. I complained through the Maytag site email and got the same reply from their responder Erin M.

Meantime I had lost all my food and had no ref. I complained to Home Depot and they came through for me allowing the tempoary use of a refrigerator until my new selection, a GE model (made in Korea) arrived and they would take back the Maytag. I am suing Maytag for food loss in small claims and so should a lot of others who seem to be in the same boat. Maytag does not stand by their products. The qulity is poor and the Maytag slogan BUILT STRONG TO LAST LONG is far from truth in advertising.

Over $300+ in food loss. Four hours lost work time by my wife waiting for the A&E tech. Constant running back and forth to fetch foods that could be used during the day. With gas at over $4/gal this was not cheap.

Basicily I only keep breas and cheese in this freezer. Maytag has refused to replace the machine which cost us @ $1800.00. They will get us a service tech at $60.00 a hour to come out and fix or replace any part.

We loose food and the machine has a water leak that has to be cleaned daily. We also had to replace kitchen floor( lucky our homeownwers covered the problem but aslo did not renew our insurance coverage. We had to find another insurance company)

We bought Maytag's Stainless Steel, French Door, Bottom Freezer from Home Depot in Chantilly, Virginia less than four years ago. I don't have the paper work in front of me at the moment, but it was a very expensive refrigerator....about $2,500.

I am now on the THIRD compressor in less than four years! The third one just arrived today and I'm not so sure this one will last as it was made in Brazil. The service man said if this doesn't work he will have to replace the main control panel.

Fortunately, we are under warranty (for the compressor only) being less than four years since the purchase, but at this rate we will have something else go wrong next year for sure. The service man said the main control panel may need replacing also and this is not covered, nor is the $300+ loss of food, nor me having to take a total of four days off from work. I'm a dental hygienist and I don't get paid unless I work.

The only bright spot is that I have laughed hysterically over some of the other complaint letters. I guess misery loves company. I know that there is a lawyer out there that could do quite well for himself or herself and help others with a class action lawsuit. I just cannot believe how many people are having trouble. Maytag should be sued. Sign me up!

Purchased a Maytag refridgerator when we moved to our new house 5 years ago. Probably 1/2 the time we have owned it the ice maker has not worked properly. We had two service calls, where the one time we had the ice maker replaced. We have hesitated making a third call as we don't think that this problem will ever be rectified. About 9 months ago the small door that lets the ice out, broke. Then the icemaker started filling with water. Water also collects on the bottom of the freezer and will run out onto the kitchen floor. About every two days we need to break/chop the ice out of the bottom of the freezer.

Of course, letters to Whirlpool/Maytag offer little or no help. We are just given the name of another tech to contact. By the way, I finally disconected the water line but there is still water collecting in the bottom of the freezer.(if only it would form as ice cubes I would be willing to overlook this design flaw). I keep hearing that our Fridge is out of warranty so there is nothing they can do. I never understood why a company could not bypass their guarantee or make good on their product when there is obviously a problem!

The morning of the 18th, we noticed it was warm in the fridge. Another repairman came out on the 21st and reconnected the damper. I paid 1300.00 for a cabinet depth fridge. Then on top of that I am out about 500.00 in service charges and parts. I contacted Maytag to see about possible recall. The remedy was to offer me a 15% discount on a top end model ( Maytag, Kitchenaid, Jennair, or Whirlpool). What a hunk of junk! I shouldn't have to purchase a refrigerator every 3 years. These are durable goods. That 15% doesn't even cover my service fees or lost food. Not to mention the aggravation!

About 6 years ago we bought a Maytag Plus refrigerator because we thought Maytags had a good reputation for quality and dependability. We found neither of those to be true though! It seemed to work well for a couple of years, but that's hardly reasonable service from such a promoted quality product. After the first couple of years we had to replace the compressor. We just figured it was a fluke until our recent breakdowns.

Within the past year we had to replace the ice maker unit ($250), the thermostat ($300) and now, just 2 months later it's not cooling again! What's wrong NOW we're wondering? We've already now sunk 1/2 the original cost of the thing into repairs, but is it worth it to fix it once again or just cut our losses and buy something else? We're thinking to DUMP it and start all over with something new. You can bet it won't be another Maytag though...OR Whirlpool, since they now own Maytag.

In addition to the costly repairs, we also lost the contents of our freezer & refrigerator twice in 6 months. All expenses considered, it about totals the cost of the refrigerator to start with...$1500!

Tried to call Maytag, but they were closed. Could not reach them until the following Tuesday due to Labor Day weekend. Maytag has a 48 hour return policy and since I could not contact them(not my fault) they had to repair it.

They had a company come out and said it needed a new compressor. I told them I wanted a new unit and Home Depot(who has bent over backwards to help me) offered a discount if I would just have it repaired. I agreed and when they came out to fix it they found it had zero refrigerant. I told Home Depot to just exchange it at this point. With a refrigerator the leak detection is hit or miss. Home Depot took it back and had a new one sent out. I got the new one on 6/18 and it had the same problem.

A repairman came out and found it also had no refrigerant. I contaced Maytag and they told be basically to have it fixed and they would not do anything else for me. Fortunatly, Home Depot is going to exchange both of my refrigerators out for another brand(anything not owned by Whirlpool). I will never buy another Maytag or any other Whirlpool product and will tell everyone I know about this horrible experience.

My real problem is that last year the evaporator fan went and everything in the freezer thawed out. Thankfully it still had enough juice to keep the fridge cold so the milk wouldn't go bad. $300 later and the issue was solved. Then last month it happened again. Thankfully three days before the year had past so the part is under warranty. This time it will only cost $180 to fix, but the service company that Maytag recommended has changed it's policy to a 90 day part warranty.

Next time I won't be so lucky so I'll just dump it. Ironically I had planned on complaining to Maytag directly, but I can't find an email on the Canadian website. So tough luck for them that my complaint is that much more public now. My favorite part is that both service techs who came out said the same thing - these things always have this problem.

Now we have been without a refrigerator for about two months. So we are in desperate need of a refrigerator. Why, don't I just buy another one? Well, in order to get another refrigerator where we live would be by air or boat, which the cost is outrageous.

There are no service agents in the bush of Alaska so we have to figure this out on our own. My Maytag refrigerator/freezer will not defrost. the model number is not shown on their website; they list have no MSDS as required by federal law and no refrigerant type listed on the appliance as required by law. There is no help from a live operator, for a year. I am a refrigeration tech, and I consider this item and company to be the worst by all standards.

Hundreds of dollars of food and the refrigerator/freezer sitting unused for a year, are due to Maytag as builder of the appliance.

We purchased a side-by-side Maytag refrigerator (Model MSD2732GRQ) in July, 2004, to replace our 27 year old Amana after it failed. We have replaced the compressor under warranty. It was 15 months old at the time. And once the 'sealed refrigeration system' is opened - even by a certified Maytag repair serviceman - ALL other parts within the 'sealed system' are no longer under warranty of any kind. It took SIX weeks for a new compressor to arrive during which time we, and our H.S. age kids, lived out of coolers - not to mention all the food we lost initially. Of course we were told the new compressor was arriving 'within a few days' every time we called.

When it was finally repaired, I told the repairman the temperature often fluctuated, so he also replaced the thermostat. Currently we are mopping up every day since the fridge leaks water on the floor. Also the plastic flipper for the ice dispensor broke off and the thru-the-door water doesn't work. Not to mention the frozen vegetables and solidly frozen eggs last week (or should I say AGAIN) - irregardless of how many times I adjust the thermostat to a warmer setting. This appliance is 3 years and 4 months old. So much for spending big money to 'buy quality'. We just went to Home Depot, where we purchased it, and tried to get them to pressure Maytag but it doesn't look hopeful. I am another customer who will NEVER buy Maytag again and I will also check to find out what other brand names they sell appliances under. I wish now I had payed any amount of money to repair my old Amana.

Like most people on this site, we have had nothing but trouble from a very expensive $2300 French door stainless steel refrigerator purchased on 9-18-06. The very first day, the ice maker would not work and we had to wait for two weeks for repair. Since that time, we regularly have to pull out the ice maker as it jams with ice that falls behind the ice tray.

Now it has become possessed and the lights on the water/ice display are blinking and the flap/damper opens and slams shut every 3 seconds.

I called the hotline number listed in the manual and the CSR told me to unplug the unit for 30 minutes and that would rectify the situation. It did not. Called the Lowe's Repair number and they have diagnosed the problem over the phone (fried motherboard - imagine that) and are supposedly overnighting the part to me. They also extended my service agreement until next year, but after reading the logs on this website I am afraid of what is to come.

Thankfully, the Maytag CSR was extremely helpful, kind and the parts are not on backorder. He scheduled repair for Friday even though the schedule was full.

Sadly, we purchased a Maytag refrigerator in December 2006. We are currently listening to the drumbeat of the FOURTH damper that has been installed in this unit. Maytag admits that a poorly engineered damper is the cause. They refuse to trade or issue a credit, claiming that a noisy (really noisy!) damper is not a defect. The Maytag Customer Service department was absolutely useless! They have stated, in essence, that as long as the refrigerator is cooling properly, they have no liability regarding noise issues.

Even though they are aware of this problem and are re-designing the damper, they continue to sell the defective model (#MBF2262HEW) to unsuspecting customers. There must be some protection for those of us who bought in good faith. I strongly encourage future customers to think twice, or even three or four times before purchasing a Maytag product.

Our Maytag refrigerator, Model MSD2456GEW, has just had to have its compressor replaced at a cost of $600. It is only five years old. I thought if I spent $2200.00 on a Maytag it would last a long time. This is very disappointing. I also now have to replace a large portion of my hardwood floor as it was ruined by water leaking out of the fridge. When I search for contact information for Maytag/Whirlpool, there is none to be found. They have a phone number but it just leads from one automated menu to another. Is anything being done to stop this company from selling appliances that will be sent to the dump after a very short lifespan?

I had trouble with the ice flap, flapping all night; and I had water leaking out after I was done getting the water needed. Now it's leaking more water than before. One repair man told me "Oh, yeah, they're having a lot of trouble with that." When the flapper started flapping, I had to wait 2 weeks before I could get it fixed. In the meantime, I had to keep making or buying ice to keep my husband's Insulin cold!!All the food had to be thrown out and 2 parts replaced. They told me I was getting PRIORITY service, because of the Insulin! That's what they call Priority? Maytag doesn't care; they got their $$$ out of all us fools. I did get the extended warranty, but who's going to pay me for 7 days of waiting 8-to-5 for them to come, not to mention all the food that was lost? I just want my $2800 back so I can go buy something I don't have to have repaired 7 times. I already emailed the BBB about them. So far I haven't heard back. Oh, by the way, when the repairman was here one time, I asked what part is going to go next? The guy told me to write all the parts on pieces of paper and put them in a hat. Luckily when we needed to replace the compressor it was still under warranty because that's a $500 part just itself. We've called Maytag's customer service every time to let them know what has happened and except for a $70 credit for the first repair we received no other compensation.

Well, it has to be repaired again. Although we are not sure how much this repair will cost, it's more money we lose. The only thing the customer representative could give us, agreeing that we bought a lemon, was a 6 month warranty on parts after we pay for this current repair.

We believe we did buy a lemon. Maytag is supposed to be a quality product and we did buy it because of their reputation. We researched refrigerators before we bought this one and didn't buy a cheap model.

I had the top of my electric stove replaced because of a stress fracture. Then, I had black mold build up in my washer. I called Maytag and was given a list little things to help reduce the mold build up. I didn't buy a front loading washer so I could bleach and scrub it regularly.

The icemaker in the refrigerator has been nothing but a constant pain. It leaks water, ice builds up, gets stuck and doesn't empty properly. Ice also builds up on the top shelf inside the freezer door, under the gasket. Black mold appears around the freezer gasket. On the frig side, the bottom drawers get ice crystal build up if I don't open the drawers.

Last Saturday the frig side was very warm. The repairman told me this was a problem Maytag had with refrigerators and he had to install a tape kit on the freezer vents. Why, after 5 1/2 years, is the taping of the freezer vents necessary? Isn't there a bigger problem?

I had to turn off the water and can no longer use the water or icemaker, plus I spend more time cleaning the washer than doing laundry.

The icemaker has required replacement every year, including the first year under warranty. I've had water overflow problems in the freezer that caused glaciers of ice. I've had to defrost my frost-free freezer several times each year. Just after the icemaker was replaced again in Feb 07, apparently the solenoid  went bad. When the repairman replaced it, he said it has obviously been leaking and has rusted the frame on the fridge. He said the warranty won't cover that because it's considered an act of God.

If God was acting in this situation, He would strike Maytag where it hurts!

Now it's stopped cooling correctly (again!), and I need yet again another service call in 2007 -- that's three in the first three months of this year alone. Fortunately, I've maintained an extended service contract on this product. However, should it be necessary to buy a policy year-after-year to keep a Maytag product functioning from year 2 through 5 after purchase? We're not talking about a 20-year old product. I have spoken with the service company and they say that Maytag has had many problems with the icemakers in the refrigerators from that year. I will never buy another Maytag Refrigerator.

The last service call around August 2006 and the guy I spoke to at Maytag said that my appliance had been serviced for the same problem more than 4 times within 1 year and that someone from their LEMON department would be contacting me. No one did. Why am I not surprised. My extended warranty expires in January 2007. The guy from Maytag also told me he could give me my service history on my appliance. Like they had something to hide.

We purchased a Maytag side-by-side stainless steel ice-in-door refrigerator freezer in 2001. It has been nothing but problems.

The ice maker has been replaced three times. The ice-to-door has never worked properly - it makes crushed instead of cubed. The refrigerator side stopped working and the produce drawers constantly have to be replaced because the entire front comes off in your hands and breaks.

We have probably spent over $800 in repairs.

Summer of 2003 we purchased a Maytag Elite refrigerator. In December of 2005 the evaporator motor, located in freezer, had to be replaced. The repairman warned me this would happen again.

This part was replaced again in early 2006 and now in September 2006 we are waiting for the part to come in the mail so we can replace it again. Fortunately the repairman was kind enough to show me how to replace the part, so I have no cost in labor.

I thought the Maytag repairman was not a busy man - sounds like job security to me.

Because we have a 20+ Maytag washer and dryer that have never needed a service call we purchased a Maytag side by side refrigerator about four years ago. It is a good thing we purchased the service contract from Sears as they make bi-monthly visits to our home. The design of the side by side is great - lots of usable room inside but something about the ventilation has caused us continual problems. I can not keep lettuce in this refrigerator - have to run it to the one in the basement. The lettuce freezes in the Maytag. Also many items at the top get too cold and freeze. I have it set on a low setting.

Also, there are these plastic covers (that cover wiring) under the doors and they are constantly falling off. It is irritating. MY SISTER-IN-LAW PURCHASED THE SAME SIDE BY SIDE REFRIGERATOR AND SHE REPLACED IT AFTER ONLY ONE YEAR.

My elderly mother purchased a traditional, (freezer on top) Maytag refrigerator in April of 2003 from Sears. Within a few months, she was experiencing water dripping from the freezer door and collecting between the door and gasket. She called Sears in August 2003, they sent a technician. He couldn't find the problem so he told her it was normal. So my mother lived with it, continuing to wipe the door and resulting frozen water accumulating inside the freezer and around the door. In November of 2003 she called an authorized Maytag repairman to have him diagnose the same problem. He also told her it was normal. She gave up trying to get it fixed.

Now she has a freezer door that has rusted through. Maytag customer service told her it was NOT normal for water to be dripping from the door, but that my mother would have to pay $139 to have the problem diagnosed. She told them she did that already, twice, and noone could find the problem. All she wants is a new door ($100). Since it's out of warranty, Maytag won't pay for the service call or new door, even though the problem began and continued during the warrantee period. Since the door costs $100, it will be cheaper just to replace it. I told her to go back to Sears and see if the salesman will stand behind the product (and not just use it as protection from all the disgruntled Maytag customers! Ha! Ha!).

The customer service rep I spoke to on behalf of my mother was rude and had the audacity to say that my mother was lying!! It's obvious Maytag has no reputation to salvage so the consumer is left to fend for themselves. I had been considering purchasing the French door refrigerator with ice/water through the door and the double oven freestanding range, but after reading all the horror stories about Maytag appliances I'll look elsewhere! Thank God for this website. I've checked Consumer Reports and their information is very inacurrate. They should really check websites like this one or have a customer satisfaction link where the consumer can get the true picture of product reliability and service.

We bought a Maytag refrigerator in 2003 and also purchased an expensive extended warrantee with it and it's a good thing we did. In March of 2006 we discovered that the freezer fan that circulates cold air wasn't working and we had to throw out several hundred dollars worth of food. Maytag replaced the fan on our extended warrantee. Then on August 21 of 2006, the same thing happened. As the repairman fixed the problem, he said, and I quote, "It's a good thing you have the extended warrantee. Better keep that up." I asked him if this problem was typical of Maytag refrigerators and he just shrugged. Then on August 23, we discovered the SAME thing had happened because the ice cream in the freezer turned to soup once again. We can't believe that in 3 days, a brand new part went bad! Now I'm waiting for a repairman again.

I don't trust that this problem can be permanently fixed and our extended warrantee is up in January of 2007. This refrigerator is only 4 years old and has given us more problems than any other appliance we've owned in our 30 years of marriage.

I can't believe this refrigerator failed so soon. When talking to customer service, they said - parts fail - there's nothing we can do about it and we only stand by those parts for a year. i paid extra for what i thought was maytag quality but obviously, I was wrong. Hopefully things will improve with WHirlpool but i work with both compnaies and don't have much faith in either now.

Maybe we have to step up to Bosch. i wish i woudl have looked on this website before I made the purchase. i will now, seeing all the many other ocmplaints about Maytag refirgerators and compressor failing - seems to me it's more than a part here and there - it's poor workmanship and inferior parts which lead to poor quality. We managed to get Maytag Customer Service to send a tech after 2 days. At first they told us 5 days, and only because we had an emergency response due to medicine that needs to be in a frige. The tech, from Sears, spent 20 min trying to find the problem and then told me that he had to order a part...The ETA on the part? 2 WEEKS. We spent more than $2.5k for their product, and they don't have spare parts to guarantee a speedy repair. I asked the tech, if there was a chance that this could repeat itself...the response, Maytag has a problem with their refrigerator electrcal board, I wouldn't be able to guarantee that the problem won't repeat itself!

Tried to get a straight answer from Maytag Customer Service, about the why they don't have basic spare parts, and they gave me the run around.

In the mean time we lost all the food we had in the refrigerator and freezer. They told us to file a claim and it would be handled in 14 days.

We called yesterday and asked when we would get the check for our lost food ($157.25) and were told that they do not handle food claims. They said that we should have anticipated the lost of food and got that kind of coverage when we bought their product! I purchased this new Maytag refrigerator through Sears in the summer of 2003 and have since had three compressors replaced. One of the last visits was a service tech who left an oil leak behind because he failed to properly solder the pipe. The last tech re-soldered the leaking tubing to make it right. Right! It still isn't freezing properly and is running above zero and allowing ice cream products to be very soft. I called Maytag yet again on May 31st, 2006 and it would be another $129.00 for a service call.

My plan is to spread the word at every opportunity, to donate the refrigerator to someone to use for storing soda and to never, never buy any product remotely related to Maytag. I understand that Whirlpool bought out Maytag so now one must be assured that Whirlpool is not Maytag. The service department is an I don't care attitude. Let's put that sad, in the commercials, lonely Maytag man to rest.

After contacting Sears, they sent someone out to check my refrigerator. The first two visits they couldn't find anything wrong. By the fourth visit they had ordered and installed three parts (thermostat, defrost timer, and control assembly). By this time I had already lost about $300 worth of food. Since they supposedly fixed it, I have lost another $200 worth of food. I have talked to so many people trying to get this problem solved. They want to shuffle me from one person to the next, and nothing is really getting done. The last person to look at my refrigerator went back to Sears and said that they could not find a problem, the next day I get a call from someone at Sears telling me there was nothing wrong with my appliance, and there was nothing they could do. I have a 1 year manufacturers warranty on the product and also purchased (at their request) an additional 2 year Protection agreement, and they still do not want to make things right.

I bought a $1500-1600 Maytag Plus side by side with water and ice through the door 6 years ago from Circuit City.

The plastic hinge cover pieces never stayed on, even though the set up men came back out to try to get them to stay on.

The side panel of the main shelf cracked while under warranty, but the repairmen kept cancelling so we just said the hell with it.

About 2 months after that, the water through the door warranty was expired, the ice maker part that pushes the ice through the opening stripped and no longer would push ice out the opening. That also meant the end of crushed ice as well.

Since we had only finished paying for it just over a year before, we really did not have the money to invest into the repair of these "luxury items" and did without. We still could get chilled water through the door, but to stop it from flowing one had to open the other side or the water would keep flowing.

The outside door light would also mysteriously turn itself on after filling a glass with water and we would be unable to turn it off, having to wait at least one full minute before the outside door switches would mysteriously work again.

About 3 weeks ago, and a little over a year after the warranty on the compressor is up, the non-freezer side of the fridge became warm while we were gone for the day. All the food was spoiled and had to be tossed. There went about another 100 bucks. Upon a closer examination, it appeared that the upper left hand corner of the fridge (inside)was frozen. We let that thaw and it seemed that did the trick.

About a week and another 100 bucks in groceries later, I awoke to hear the sound of running water at 4:30 in the morning. The Maytag was pumping out water by the ton , through the door, and it was kind enough to even turn its little light on for us. It swamped my kitchen floor and soaked up into my kitchen cabinets. It took every towel in the house, 2 8 packs of Bounty towels and a squeegee to get all the water out the door. Most of the food in both the freezer side and the regular side was thawed and mushy.

The repairman came and put a new "Brain" in it (computer board) for the fee of $347. Imagine our surprize when nearly the same thing happens a week later. This time, it wasn't the water throught the door controlled by the mother board causing water to once again cascade all over my kiitchen, but the compresser died a sudden death, causing all the ice to melt and to just pour through the door opening, sort of like pouring a gallon or two of water on the floor.

All my calls to Maytag were met with the same company line- they think that 6 years is an "old fridge." I bought this stupid Maytag to replace a cheap Hotpoint purchased in 1971 for around $175-$220 that had ONE service call in all those years.
