We purchased a 3K Maytag refrigerator/freezer and purchased an extended warranty as well. 5 months later the ice machine stopped working. We called Maytag to get it repaired since it's under the 1 yr factory warranty and they sent an appliance service company they contract with to repair it. 6 service calls and two months later it's still not repaired. I called Maytag back to say if you can't fix it please replace it. They say it needs to be deemed "not repairable" to even consider replacement and that they would send out a different repair company. As of yesterday (9/(9/14) another month and a half and 5 trips from the second repair company and it still does not work, so I call Maytag again to complain and they give me the same line ...."needs to be deemed unrepairable"...

How long and how many service calls does it take to fix a ice maker? How much work and how many hours do I need to miss to get what I paid for? I went to their website and it talks about how their mission statement is customer service etc, etc, etc..... That's just a bunch of lip service and judging by the HUNDREDS of complaints I have read this is their standard method of operation.... I for one will not let this go and will be filing a claim in small claims court to get what I paid for..... BE WARNED if you are looking to purchase a appliance.

I purchased a brand new French door Maytag refrigerator from Yale Appliances. It stopped working after 8 years. The service technician told me it required a new compressor and evaporator. These items cost more than $600. Whirlpool which owns Maytag asked me to buy an extended warranty in order to help fixing the refrigerator. It has become a common practice with many companies to make shoddy products and then sell extended warranties. The govt. should look into this. I have a whirlpool refrigerator which cost me far less than the French door refrigerator. This is about 20 years old and it never had any problem.

My stainless fridge has the French doors on the top and a freezer on the bottom. Purchased just under three years ago, this summer it has started leaking on the floor. As stated by others, Maytag knows it has this problem. The service repairperson told me that to save energy and money, Maytag stopped putting a heater by the condenser when manufacturing the product. Why there hasn't been a product recall is beyond me. I'm a single mother of three boys and spent over a year paying for this $2,000 fridge on my Home Depot card (12 mos. 0%). Now I have to spend a $100 to fix their mistake. Looking for a class action attorney this afternoon. This is wrong, wrong, wrong!!!

We purchased a Maytag Refrigerator - French Doors, Bottom Freezer - Model #12569YEM0 in June of 2011. A few months after installation, the water dispenser on the front suddenly started pouring water all over the wood floors in the kitchen. Fortunately someone was home and able to turn off the water. We called the repairman. He replaced a part. Problem solved. In recent months, we have had water leaks coming from the bottom of the refrigerator (freezer) and these leaks have damaged an 6 - 8 feet of our flooring. We have kept towels on the floor around it until we can get it repaired, but it has happened about 10 times now. My husband went online and found that the drain line may be clogged -- he has it taken apart now to replace a part. Apparently there is a replacement part that prevents this from happening, so why has Maytag not notified the consumers of this product and offered to replace it? Had they done this, our floors would not have to be replaced. This refrigerator, while it looks good, has been a major pain and is far more costly (with home damage repairs) than its actual cost.

I have a Model MBF 1958XES4 which I bought from Home Depot in June of 2012. It has leaked repeatedly onto my wood floor. The water also collects and freezes on the floor of the freezer. I already have warped floor boards as a result. I just got it fixed. The repair person said he has done over 200 of these repairs in the last year. He also said Maytag knows it's a defect and has supplied them with replacement parts. The company apparently tells its repair companies not to discuss this with their customers. I have yet to contact Maytag, although apparently from others' experiences that will be futile. I'm willing to join others in pursuing this. I had a 40 year old Kelvinator which was still working well which I replaced with this refrigerator when I redid my kitchen.

We purchased a new Maytag side-by-side refrigerator back in 2011 and for the last several months it has been leaking water into the bottom of the freezer unit when it goes through the automatic defrost process. The water freezes and after a few of these cycles causing the ice to accumulate and build up, it starts to leak out onto our kitchen floor. About every 10 days we have to open the freezer door, break up the accumulated ice on the bottom of the freezer and remove the ice chunks by hand. What a pain in the neck! Most of the time we can prevent the water from escaping, but not always. This is going to damage our kitchen floor, not to mention it's a safety hazard for slip and falls, and/or fire or shock hazards. We have contacted Maytag directly, but nothing will be done as they say it's beyond the 12 month standard warranty.

They said one option is for us to purchase an extended warranty plan from them for only $359. Really? Are you kidding me?? They don't seem to care about a potential product liability property damage claim/suit, nor an exposure for a potential bodily injury claim. As I've tried to explain, this is NOT a warranty situation, it's a product defect situation and one probably worth a class action lawsuit based on the number of complaints I'm aware of. They know it's a product defect problem, but choose to ignore it at the expense of numerous innocent consumers. The only resolution seems to be filing your own lawsuit against them for some kind of remedy to this very aggravating situation that occurs every 10 days or so. Maytag used to be very good appliances, ones that were made of high quality materials, and lasted for years without any problems. That's why I became a Maytag fan in the first place, but ever since they were purchased by Whirlpool Corporation, it's not the same old Maytag we used to know and love. DO NOT BUY MAYTAG APPLIANCES - you will regret it!!

Unbeknownst to us, our Maytag Refrigerators (MFD2561KES) ice maker developed a problem with the fill hose which connects to the back of the refrigerator, causing it to pop off. The hose had been leaking water onto our wood floor causing all of the boards under the refrigerator and 6 feet in front to buckle. I cannot see why Maytag did not use a compression fitting instead of using a squeeze type hose clamp. Plus the ice maker has left a large sheet inside the freezer on the bottom. I use the ice maker daily to fill my cooler for work.

We also have a Maytag Dishwasher which has a push button panel in front which has decided to give out as well. Not to mention our Maytag Double Oven which has never been able to close properly since we have had it. (The service man said that there is nothing wrong with it). We bought our house 7 years ago and my wife wanted nothing but Maytag because of our experience in the past. I gave up buying american automobiles years ago and I guess the same will happen when I replace these appliances (after I finish paying for my new floor).

Duck bill valve for defrost water from freezer malfunctions, water flows into freezer freezes, then eventually overflows onto floor. Huge problem for folks with wood floors. Also a slip/fall danger especially for the elderly. When the repair line is contacted, they deny the problem and say you are the only one. But if you do your research, you find there are hundreds of complaints and in November 2013 they issue a service bulletin, but it's internal, not meant for consumers to find out. So if you have this problem, go to the Consumer Product Safety Commission and fill out a complaint. Maybe then something may come of it.

Seems this is a common problem and Whirlpool isn't willing to stand behind their product. Their technical bulletin (W10632338A) issued Nov 2013 states they will cover parts & labor for only 2 years after purchase. I argued with a supervisor that Whirlpool should cover it regardless of when it was purchase as this is a design flaw. Got nowhere. Why is it my responsibility to pay to correct a duckbill valve that gets plugged. If it's a known problem, which it is, they should have contacted consumers to advise them, but they don't. This affects Whirlpool, Amana, Jenn-Air, Maytag and KitchenAid. In Googling this there are people that have had their hardwood floors damaged because of this defect. A class action lawsuit is needed here.

I have a 26 cu. ft. side by side Model MZD2665HES, like most folks in my neighborhood (spec homes). The icemaker died and service was called. They looked at solenoid, and replaced the ice maker assembly as a wag that it was the problem.. still no ice, but the water was still able to be called. I replaced filter- still water only, no ice. Little did we know it was the filler tube blocked with ice, and the service man didn't once suggest turning off the water service. SO, every time water was called to either make ice or to fill a cup with, it put intense pressure on the point of assembly where the water line comes into the fridge (water inlet tube). A pin hole developed in the little plastic bit (water inlet tube plate) and every time the water was called to ice, guess what happened - it shot right out the back on drywall.

Almost $20,000 dollars worth of damage to wood floor (warped), drywall (jello), and flooring (carpet) ensued. Mold was all over and had to be contained and treated for days to be fixed. I'm still duking it out with service repairman and insurance companies. My advise: If you have this fridge or anything like it and the ice maker stops working, IMMEDIATELY shut down the water supply, turn the fridge off and check the filler tube in the back for ice blockage. Probably a good idea to pull the fridge forward once in a while and check the back for water also.

Refrigerator (Model Mff2558vems) purchased end of November 2011. Early in 2013 notice refrigerator first forming ice all over freezer, including an ice sheet on bottom of freezer. Then noticed water around refrigerator. Called maytag and they sent repairman even though a little over year and out of warranty. Their service people seemed to know exactly what was causing the leak as they came in with the correct replacement part. Worked fine however, there was damage to my newly refinished hardwood floors which Maytag did pay to repair.

A couple of days ago I opened the freezer and again noticed ice all over freezer. The next day, water all around freezer. I cleaned everything up, so I thought. The day after, we noticed the hardwood in kitchen buckling up far from refrigerator and the laminate in dining room bubbling, even though there was no visible sign of water. Called Maytag repair company but they couldn't come out for a couple of days. Called another local repair service familiar with Maytag refrigerators and he couldn't find anything wrong with refrigerator even though he knows leaking caused by refrigerator. Called insurance co. and they sent over service master. Leak is definitely coming from refrigerator. They had to pull up hardwood floor, part of walls, the dining room. They now have five large fans going and a defroster to dry things up. This is upsetting, as my daughter's wedding is next month, my husband is currently laid off and I don't need this kind of aggravation again.

I love the french door idea, so roomy for my large family, but I am now afraid of this refrigerator. I don't want it but think it is ridiculous I have to shell out more money when the refrigerator is less than 3 years old. I talked with a higher level supervisor at Maytag and they are only willing to give a 100.00 rebate towards a new refrigerator since the refrigerator is out of warranty. This is ridiculous. I thought by buying American I was helping our economy but what I got in return is heartache and crappy merchandise. If there is a lawsuit in California against Maytag about these refrigerators I want to join. My friend in N. CA who bought her Maytag refrigerator the same time I did is also experiencing leaking. So frustrating.

I purchased a bottom freezer Maytag refrigerator two years ago. It recently began leaking water onto the floor from the freezer compartment. I just had it serviced and the serviceman told me that it was a common problem. The duck-billed check valve gets plugged. This is a problem with Maytag, Jenn-Air, Whirlpool, Amana, and KitchenAid refrigerators as they all share the same manufacturer.

There is a service bulletin out on this that lists hundreds of model numbers affected by the problem (Technical Service Pointer #: W10632338). I think it is criminal that consumers are expected to pay hundreds of dollars to have this manufacturer's defect repaired. I tried to find a place with the government to file a complaint, but wasn't clear who had jurisdiction. Perhaps a class action suit is in order. There have to be millions of consumers potentially facing this problem. Anyone with any knowledge of how to further pursue this defect, please comment.

Not the Maytag quality that was produced in Newton, Iowa. You can tell these are plastic machines made in Mexico. Of course you still pay for the Maytag name just not the quality. Purchased French Door MF12269VM 22 inch from The Brick furniture April 1, 2012. Turned out to be a real April fool's joke. Purchased extended warranty with TransGlobal for 5 years. First, fridge delivered after about a couple of weeks because it actually wasn't in stock. Naughty Brick lied about availability. Fridge arrives and after a service call from Maytag repair, they ascertain compressor doesn't work.

Order fridge number 2. Two weeks later, get second fridge but lever for dispensing water is broken off. Order fridge number 3. Usual two-week wait and fridge finally arrives but the whole side panel is damaged. Send it back and order Fridge number 4. Service from Brick, Maytag and Whirlpool, terrible customer relations. Misrepresented delivery dates, supply issues, and operational damages.

Fridge finally installed. Ice maker operates intermittently for the next year. Service techs from TransGlobal offer a variety of suggestions including changing filter, water pressure issues. Finally ice maker stops entirely in Summer of 2013. Is replaced after a month of waiting for parts of which the wrong part was sent. Ice maker continued to operate intermittently. Sometimes just a small of ice or no ice for a day. Finally in May after another service call, ice maker stopped working for about 4 days. Tech comes out and miraculously, it starts working again. A month later stops again and hasn't worked since.

Contacted TransGlobal off shore call centre? And arranged to have an assessment to see if we needed a new fridge. Request declined and Maytag (Whirlpool) sent a tech out after another week. Service tech recommended new freezer. Waited a week for parts and arranged for Service tech to replace ice maker. Wrong ice maker part (for the second time) in less than a year.

The latest trick from our possessed fridge is recent alarms from the temperature control. To say we are disappointed in this product, the retail experience, the quality of the manufacturing, the shipping procedures, the poor engineering and design, doesn't come close to describing the shoddiness surrounding this appliance and the service we've received.

In conclusion, we are still awaiting an ice maker and are contemplating buying another fridge. What it is fair to say, we will never ever buy another appliance with their the Whirlpool or Maytag attached to it. Nor will we ever again buy anything from the Brick, or depend upon TransGlobal for repair services. Are there other Manufacturers and retailers out there who understand the meaning of service and quality. I certainly hope so. Otherwise I'm going to invest in a good icebox.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed some darkening of my wood floor to the left of the refrigerator and so I pulled it out from the wall a bit. What I saw was that my entire floor was wet and falling apart under the left side and when I looked into the freezer, I pulled out the bottom basket and the bottom was covered in about an inch of ice.

I called, posted on Facebook and was put on hold several times for as long as 20 minutes before I hung up. I called Home Depot and asked them to intervene and speak to a rep from Maytag. I have heard nothing. There is black mold in the corner of my kitchen and a soaked floor that may go way beyond. I googled the leak and apparently this is very common with Maytag French Door refrigerators. I have a meeting with an attorney. Fridge Model MFF2258VEB6 - Our refrigerator is less that 2 years old and it won't make ice! The bottom of freezer is filled with water that froze. Everyday there is water on the floor. We asked at Home Depot where we purchased it and they said we need to change the filter. What filter? The owner's manual is a joke. We can't figure out where the filter is located so it looks like we have to pay money to have someone come look at this. Hey, this is ridiculous. I thought Maytag had a good reputation and that's why we bought ALL Maytag appliances two years ago! Never again!

Shame on Maytag! Customer Service is appalling! Paid 2500 for one of their top of the line refrigerator/freezer and had the repair people 5 times in one year. It was determined that it is a bad model number that Maytag won't recall but knows it is faulty. Started with ice build up in freezer making it sound like a plane taking off. It kept running trying to defrost (energy efficient-right). The repairman put in a request to have the product replaced based on symptoms and freezer being at 26 degrees. We had to wait five business days for Maytag to review it. I have a family and was having guests. They told me to buy a dorm refrigerator and they would send me a small credit towards it in 4 to 6 weeks.

They finally agreed to replace the known faulty model, but I have to wait for the exchange team to contact me (2 weeks later). I keep calling and leaving messages but can't get the exchange team to even return my calls. I have my son's graduation this weekend and I don't have a freezer and my refrigerator is faulty with all my vegetables rotting within two days. It also took two days to originally get someone in management to call me back (even though it did no good - she can't help me). You cannot talk to management if you call customer service. They downright refuse! What a company!

Bought all stainless steel Maytag appliances when we remodeled our kitchen in 2010. French door fridge freezer broke down three times. First the fridge lost its temp and we lost our food. The freezer went into overdrive and froze the vodka solid. Second time massive ice build up in bottom of freezer so we had to constantly chip it away to keep door closed. Third time was a repeat of the fridge not working at all and the freezer going insanely cold. Sad to say, we have given up and bought another fridge freezer for $1,500, not a Maytag!

On to the washing machine: a super duper top of the line expensive Maytag. At the end of last year it started to make disturbing jet engine noises in spin mode. It for worse and worse so I had a repair man come and take a look at it. He said it would cost over $700 to fix. Once again, we decided to cut our loses and buy another washing machine. I have saved all the paperwork including the repair bills for both appliances so I'm good to go on the class action lawsuit.

We renovated our kitchen in 2008 and installed all Maytag appliances. We had purchased a Maytag dishwasher 3 years prior to the renovation-- that we kept. Well, the dishwasher was the first Maytag appliance to go. After replacing several cheap plastic parts on the dish racks (I resorted to use twist ties at one point to hold the racks together) the racks started to chip and rust, leaving stains on our dishes. The cost to replace the racks was about $150 so we just replaced the dishwasher (with a Bosch - so far, no problems!)

Then, a couple of the igniters on our gas cooktop stopped working. Since they were the back burners that we didn't use much, we just used a match to light them and let it go. Next, one of the hinges on the double wall oven door snapped. This is a little concerning because the doors are heavy and will need to be replaced. And the final straw concerns our French door refrigerator. The control panel started flashing wildly and the ice door was opening and closing with a loud clicking sound. Of course this happened on a weekend so I looked online and found hundreds, if not thousands, of similar complaints.

So I called Maytag and spent nearly an hour on the phone only to be told that my model number was not one of the recalled ones. I explained that my problem was exactly like the others and was told that the best they could do was offer me 50% off any parts. The service call and shipping would not be covered either. The Maytag representative that I spoke to tried to cheer me up by telling me that at least they had the part I would need in stock, unlike the recalled models. Those parts are discontinued and have to be specially manufactured and have a two month waiting period. The part is about $250 and add to that the shipping and service call and I am sure this is going to cost me several hundred dollars even with the discount on the part. Very, very disappointed. Never again will I buy Maytag, never again!

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator (model #MBR2258XES1) on April 2012. In less than six months from the purchase date, the freezer stopped working. I called Home Depot who stated they don't provide replacements after 30 days from purchase date; that I should call the manufacturer which I did but they referred me to the Maytag extended warranty plan. The extended plan had someone come to diagnose the problem. The guy indicated that it needed a new compressor and a new evaporator; these were then replaced by a different repair person.

The refrigerator continued to malfunction - it did not freeze; I called the Maytag extended warranty plan again and they sent out yet another repair person. This guy said that the guy that put in the parts did it incorrectly causing a leak. He fixed the leak and it lasted for a little while. For the past two weeks, the refrigerator has stopped freezing again. The Maytag extended warranty sent another repair guy - this one said that it needs a new compressor, a new evaporator and a new condenser, basically a new refrigerator; he would not touch it after that.

I called the Maytag extended warranty again so they send yet another repair guy. At first this guy did not think it was the compressor but after defrosting the accumulated ice in a corner of the freezer, he said that a compressor was needed and probably a dryer as well and that he was told by the manufacturer to solder all the wires. I told him that the compressor was replaced the last time along with the evaporator. He said he'd be back at the end of week with the parts and that I would have to live without a refrigerator for yet another week. Because no one renders this faulty refrigerator as non-repairable, they will not replace it. This refrigerator is less than 2 years! Now I'm no mechanic or technician but it doesn't take half a brain to know that if they keep replacing the same parts, it isn't the parts that are faulty, it is the product!

Horrible Refrigerator MSB27C2XAM00. I bought this refrigerator November 2013. Over the past 5 months I have made over 10 calls to Maytag customer service. Each phone call averages 30-45 minutes in length. In total I have and have had 6 service repair visits. Within 4 weeks of acquiring the unit, the letters on the ice/water dispenser wore off. They replaced the panel and within 4 weeks the letters wore off on the replacement panel. The subsequent calls made to customer service were regarding slow water dispensing and shrinking ice cubes. I was advised in order to maintain water speed and decent sized ice cube production I would have to replace the filter every time the water dispensing slows, which is on average every 4 to 6 weeks (each filter costs $40).

When I asked why I would have to change the filter so frequently when the packaging instructions with the water filter states you can expect an average of 6 months use or 200 gallons, (mind you we are a family of 2 adults and one child under the age of 10 surely not consuming 200 gallons of water within 4 weeks), Maytag advised me to attain a whole house water filtration system. I was told that the water supply to my home must require extra filtration which is why the filters are not lasting. I asked if other NYC residents have made such complaints. Maytag advised they cannot share this information for confidentiality reasons. I told the rep that I did not want specific names/address of the complainants. I just wanted to know if there were any other similar complaints! If it's the NYC water supply I would have to believe there would be similar complaints. Maytag would not advise.

They will not budge in replacing the unit. After spending $1,400 on this refrigerator I am now expected to invest $500 annually on water filters in order for the refrigerator to work properly. I was also advised that if another service tech came to my home and the issue was found to be the same I would be responsible for payment of the service call. I did my research before purchasing this Maytag product. I ultimately selected Maytag for their reputation. I am so disappointed with this unit and with the company that I will never purchase another Maytag appliance and I will advise everyone I know to never purchase from this company again. Such a disappointment!

Upon inspection, we noticed that the refrigerator was not working. Went over to Home Depot and were given the name and number of the authorized Maytag repair dealer (A and E). The technician arrived on 2-5-2014 and replaced the compressor on-off /overload relay and charged $243.82. On 2-16-2014 (11 days later), the same thing happened again. The technician came on 2-19-2014. This time, it was the compressor at a cost of $800.00 plus the $75.00 service call. One can purchase the compressor online for $300.00 and I am sure that A and E buys it for a lot less. We thought about it and decided not to get it fixed because we did not know what else would go wrong and how long would the second compressor last.

We talked to the Appliance Department's assistant manager and were told that Home Depot does not give any kind of consideration and she had worked there for 11 years and had not heard of any problems. She was not telling the truth or she was not aware of the numerous negative customer reviews online. She also informed me that I should have bought a warranty. We have bought quite a few refrigerators in 50 years and they lasted for many years. Home Depot sells inferior products. Maytag must sell these inferior products at discounted prices and of course, some stores are looking for larger profits. I do not trust Home Depot any longer and will not purchase appliances there anymore. It was a very expensive lesson - the price of the refrigerator, loss of food (twice) and the stress it caused. Maytag microwave and refrigerator - The microwave stopped heating after three yrs. Appliance repair charged us 115 to tighten a screw. When that didn't work he suggested we replace the magnetron = 256.00 much more than the microwave cost initially. We bought a countertop model and are now using that instead. The bottom draw freezer is building up ice and draining on to my kitchen floor. The fridge is also 3 years old. Maytag should shut down the company. Their products are crap and the service even worse.

We purchased a Maytag refrigerator (freezer on top) model m1txegmyw00 in May 2012 and the compressor recently failed roughly 3 months from the two-year mark. We first noticed the issue this winter when the bottom level of the fridge start freezing our food. We adjusted the internal temperature setting down, but this did nothing. Then the compressor started cycling on/off for roughly 5 minutes at a time. After we noticed that, the freezer no longer kept things frozen. We called the Maytag repairman ($80 including taxes just to visit). He said the compressor is gone and that "They don't make them like they used to." - I thought he was joking. He also recommended getting a servicing contract on a new fridge (but I would expect that from a serviceman).

The cost to replace the compressor was over $600 and their work is only guaranteed on that part for 3 months (so anything else in the fridge could go wrong). I asked if we could have avoided this - he said it was possible that if we had unplugged the fridge for 10 minutes when we noticed the on/off cycling, it might have given the fridge time to reset (so take that for what it is worth). Our previous fridge lasted over 8 years - I don't understand how Maytag (owned by Whirlpool) can sell a high ticket item that will work for less than two years. I will not be purchasing another one.

I purchased a new Maytag top freezer refrigerator. From the time it was delivered the freezer temp never went below 10 degrees. It ran between 10 and 20 degrees. Ice cream was soupy, bread did not freeze. I called Good Deals Appliance in Fort Myers, FL where I bought the refrigerator 3 days after delivery to report the freezer problem. They sent a service tech out who looked at it and said the model I bought has no freezer control so it could not be fixed. The store I bought it from said Whirlpool, who owns Maytag, said 10 degrees is acceptable for the model I bought so there was nothing the store or Whirlpool would do to replace it.

I called Whirlpool numerous times, was on hold for over half an hour each time and was told 10 degree freezer temp is acceptable. After considerable arguing, they agreed to send a second repair person who came out and said the freezer temperature problem could not be fixed. After numerous additional calls, a complaint to the BBB and a stop payment on my Visa, Whirlpool sent a third service person who said it could not be repaired. I began the round of phone calls to Whirlpool again as well as to the Good Deals salesman who has been as useless as possible, continually saying it is our problem to deal with Whirlpool.

The BBB contacted me and then Good Deals who said Whirlpool has agreed to replace the refrigerator but I have to contact Whirlpool. I have called Whirlpool, waited forever on hold, and left three messages and no one has returned my call. Whirlpool should not call what they do "customer service". They are rude and argumentative and make it very difficult for customers to contact them and even more difficult to get a defective appliance replaced. I purchased a Maytag refrigerator from Lowe's about 6 years ago. French door with bottom freezer. About two years into it all the Freon was lost. I live in a loft home so it is a rather big deal getting the appliance up the stairs. I turned the unit over on it's side to diagnose the problem before I bought a new one. I found that the copper line from the compressor to the condenser was directed through the condensate pan and had two pieces of foam around it to avoid vibration. This created a point for the line to corrode in a wet and dry cycle. What engineer would do something so irresponsible. I have some experience with refrigeration, so I cut out the bad piece and silver soldered a new straight piece of copper line that didn't go into the condensate pan. I refilled the Freon and it has been good ever since. I bet if mine failed like that, so did countless others. The only other problem was one of the sliders on the freezer drawer, but that was an easy fix.

The first appliance to go was the refrigerator. The freezer floods my floor every 4 days. I have to take a ice pick and de-ice the bottom of the freezer. This has been going on for over a year. It was just a couple of days past the one year mark. Maytag wanted 300 bucks plus just to come and look at it so that's not going to happen.

My microwave was second to go. It takes over 4 minutes to heat a cup of milk on 100% high power. The dishwasher is a nightmare and the pieces inside are breaking. Every other day I find something else, so I don't use it anymore. The Oven on convection setting either burns or doesn't cook the food. I absolutely wish I would have left the cheap appliances I had in the house when I bought it. 11 years with them and not one problem. I just wanted something nicer and boy was that a mistake! Bought new Maytag French Door with cooling drawer refrigerator in July, & have had nothing but problems with "both" product & customer service since. Have already had 2 service calls for the SAME problem. The in-door ice maker/dispenser is a horrendous mess. Place a container below the opening to get ice cubes & ice is sprayed in chunks all over the floor & around the kitchen. To get ice, you have to put the container in direct contact with the opening, & then place a towel over the entire in-door unit to keep ice chunks from spraying all over the floor. The unit has a small flap-door in the ice maker, which must open & close automatically when getting ice, but the flap failed to close, so the ice in the ice maker was melting & the water running into the refrigerator unit & onto the floor.

Called warranty repair & they came out & said they fixed the door-flap, but they did not. Ice was still melting & the freezer unit would not even keep ice cream & pastry items frozen solid. Called repair a 2nd time during the first 4 months of ownership, & they came out & replaced the motor to the small door-flap in the in-door ice/water unit. When asked why the freezer would not keep ice cream & pastry items frozen solid, the repairman stated (quote): "Freezers don't keep ice cream frozen solid because it has so much sugar in it, it's like alcohol". Had no excuse about the pastry issue however.

We replaced a 12-year-old Jenn-Air with this piece of junk, but at least the Jenn-Air kept ice & ice cream frozen solid, & the ice maker did not leak & spray ice around the kitchen. Jenn-Air must know something about freezing "sugary" ice cream, that Maytag/Whirlpool do not understand. Then today we got a notice that Whirlpool had denied payment for the 1st repair visit, even though the unit was only 2 months old then. As such, we expect them to deny payment for this 2nd visit, even though the unit is now only 4 months old. Bad product & sloppy customer service, from a company with ZERO consumer support.

After another Freon charge 7 days later, the fridge will freeze ice only in a manual ice tray. The water in the ice maker for whatever reason will not freeze? To make matters even worse, the freezer fan has been noisy for the last year. Maytag's solution is to purchase extended warranty for $300 plus or hire repair person at $100 for first hour. A 36 month old refrigerator is in essence a disposable item. Basically for a $700 fridge… that breaks down to about $20.00 per month service charge and then it’s time to replace!

The woman I spoke with said that Maytag has been having a lot of complaints about this as the pan put in the refrigerator was too small. In my opinion - an obvious design flaw. The service tech came to our house today with a larger drain...not a pan as I had been told by Maytag (Maytag is the one who ordered the drain to be put in). We ended up paying an unexpected $209 (Pan vs. drainage replacement is a lot more expensive). Needless to say, we are upset for having to pay $209 for a Maytag design flaw as well as not being told upfront what the correct part was that was being ordered. First, the temperature of the refrigerator declined drastically causing us to lose over $500 worth of food. Items that were even unopened had to be thrown down the drain. The first call was made to Maytag customer service. They decided to send a technician. Great. The technician came and informed us that it was the refrigerant. WRONG. The second technician comes and states that the compressor is shot and that is why it is not staying cold. Time to order the compressor that is on back order. Shocking.

Another week goes by without a fridge. Cut to the third technician who comes and installs the new compressor. Fridge is cool and at about 32 degrees for probably 4 hours. The food goes back in the fridge and the temperature climbs to 70 within minutes. Strike two. Contact Customer Service and demand answers on what can be done. Speak with the first representative named Melinda. If you get her good luck. She states she doesn't care and hangs up. Call back to speak with another representative who is very sweet and compassionate and tries her best to help.

Unfortunately, she was unable to do so. Asked to speak with a supervisor and had the displeasure of speaking with Scott. For all the trouble that we have been going through, time wasted, food thrown away, Scott can offer $100. Yeah, okay, nice try. The more we speak with Scott, he ups the ante to $150 and the final offer of $200. I advised Scott that there is someone higher than him that needs to be involved after he told me that he was the highest I could go. Wrong again. Time goes by and nothing happens. We receive a call from Yvette ** that was missed and call her back in the corporate executive office. We have contacted her and left her 4 voice mails and the response has been nothing. Actually, calling her you get her message that she is not available. This is over the span of a week. Nothing.

ANOTHER technician is sent to look at the fridge and what was supposed to be a brand new compressor that was installed and states that the fridge is condemned. Well isn't that lovely?! Of course because the parts are made in Brazil and Maytag is charged $15 for them and they charge the consumer $200. There is no reason why they should work. We got in touch with the appliance store who told us that we need to speak with Maytag to ask for our money back because we are NOT taking the same fridge as a replacement. Now, we are plagued with the appliance store not taking our calls, the corporate executives not taking our calls, and a $1300 stainless steel french door paperweight.

With a call in to our attorney and the phone poised to be dialing our local news stations, I am not sure of what the next move for Maytag will be. I'm sitting here after 21 days of not having a refrigerator hoping that a call and resolution comes soon. My family will NEVER EVER purchase a Maytag appliance again. Ice maker stopped making ice within first month. Repair man came out next day. Said ice maker only makes 7 cubes at a time 8 times a day. REALLY? A $2000 refrigerator only makes 50 ice cubes a day??? Why would I need a refrigerator that size if there was only one of me? Obviously, I'll be keeping a bag of ice nearby.

This a 28-month-old bottom freezer fridge purchased from Home Depot. At about 26 months, the freezer started to leak water as ice was completely covering the bottom of the freezer floor and the excess water would then run out once the door was opened. I managed to get the ice out with slim bladed putty knife and did this about every 10 days. Contact with Maytag affirmed that I had no warranty available as it only comes with a 1-year, except for the compressor. Every effort was made to sell me an extended 1-year warranty for $330, and then a technician would be sent to fix the problem. I asked if the compressor had failed, would I be discounted as it is warranted and the answer was no, the fee was still $330. I had great difficulty in explaining why I would purchase a warranty for an item that is already warranted to no avail.

I decided to go with their 2nd option of having a local appliance tech to solve the problem at my expense which I did for a final cost of $130. Technician came and immediately knew the problem and removed a little black rubber stopper valve that is supposed to let water pass but gets clogged and the water backs up into the freezer. It took him all of a half hour to fix everything, $85 for the visit and $45 for time in place, $0 for parts. He stated that this is a continuing problem that he has seen many times. Moral: Don't buy any Maytag products as the Maytag repairman who had nothing to do has died.

Troubleshooting instructions from representative over the phone was a joke. Made us wait until the next day for service. Lost close to 500.00 worth of food. Company prints in instruction manual that they are not responsible for food loss - which hint should be your first clue that they suck and this is obviously an issue for them so they print it in their user manual to cover their stupid **. If anyone has had this problem I suggest you call a news company such as 7 On Your Side/Help Me Howard, write to Better Business B., file a small claim file - anything to tell this company they should be held responsible for food loss under circumstances like this.

I am extremely disappointed with Maytag and the representatives I spoke with this evening. One laughed after I told her I was 7 months pregnant and without a fridge for a week after owning it less than a year. I was repeatedly and curtly told, "We don't cover that," when I asked only to replace the recent food I had purchased. After having to request a manager several times, I was put on the phone with Dana ID ** who said she would not be able to help with any food despite the delay of a week for repairs to our fridge. However, she could extend our warranty for 6 months.

The only reason we were able to get someone out as early as we did was because we knew a licensed Maytag service repair company. Otherwise, we would still be waiting for someone to come out to tell us it would be another week before repairs. The originally assigned service repair company by Maytag did not return our call. There was no concern or empathy from the Maytag representatives that I was pregnant and could have eaten food that was not cooled to prevent bacteria growth that would harm me and my baby.

Even their service repair technician recommended to contact them about the spoiled food since it was impossible for the repairs to be completed before the end of the week. We will never purchase Maytag again. The appliance failed with no warning in less than a year, and the representatives made no effort to resolve our issue of being without food for a week.

I bought the newest most energy efficient Maytag model M9BXXGMYM00 (for about 1K) from a local appliance store and after 9 months it wouldn't freeze. The local store picked up and left a loner for the fridge and made repairs in shop returning it in a week - great - except that approx. 11 months later the fridge again wouldn't freeze. The store sent repairman who charged 125$ to tell me it had leaked it's freon again and would need repairs which were no longer covered under 1 year Maytag warranty. I asked the store to back their work but was only given a refill of the freon and half off the service visit. 2 months later the fridge is not freezing. I know because the repairman and store owner Mike told me that it had freon leak and that Mike himself had made "repairs" to the leak that the unit wasn't "repaired".

I have read that freon is toxic and can be hazardous to people with heart conditions and a list of bad effects. Maytag will only send someone to repair unit for a service call charge plus the repair charges and will not replace a defective unit. I can take the appliance store to small claims court over faulty warranty repairs but probably not the health risks - which are disputed by the "experts". I've read reviews and have heard from people who have appliance issues that the companies basically use a defective unit as a cash cow sending repairmen back again and again and never fixing the problem making a lot of money off of frustrated people who have bought a lemon from a company who doesn't back their product or their work. I was only looking for a decent refrigerator and paid plenty for one. I now have to get rid of a nuisance or pay to "fix" it - probably more than once and spend lots of time getting through the court vs. store owner process for any of the 1000 bucks lost on the defective toxic junk I got from Maytag.

They said put in dye and recharge. 24 hours later, not cooling. 3rd call, next day checks with sniffer nothing. Recharges again, finds leak in the back of fridge near the top with sniffer at inaccessible area. Calls Maytag and they said to resolder every joint. In order to do that the fridge has to be almost flipped over on my kitchen floor. 2 days go by, still no appointment from EDWARDS APPLIANCE REPAIR, SEWELL, NJ for 4th service call. I have a similar story to Patricia. Been without a fridge for over a month. Refrigerator is almost brand new (bought last year) and a service-person has been out three times (going on 4) to "fix" it. The fixes NEVER work and then they have to order ANOTHER part and I have to wait for the part AND THEN the service person. I should not have to wait once the part comes in. People who have been waiting should be at the TOP of the list. Then again, this is Maytag...probably EVERYONE has been waiting for a fix.

I'll never buy a Maytag appliance again unless they give me a new appliance, pay for the apartment sized refrigerator I was forced to buy while I waited--I have 3 children who need fresh food--and replace the $300 worth of groceries that went bad when I was assured the second fix would work (they won't replace my refrigerator--if they do, I'll be satisfied--unless it breaks in less than a year, too).

It means that as I cannot to pay a repairman hundreds of dollars to repair it, I have to order the HV board myself and will attempt to fix it. He then told me everything was perfectly alright, the noise was "normal" for a Maytag, and that I was going to get used to it.

Needless to say, he had a totally condescending attitude. It's the first time I ever bought a Maytag. Previously, I had a General Electric that was noisy but not as much as the new Maytag. Prior to that, I had a good old Kenmore that was perfectly alright but that I had to give away for other reasons. This time I chose Maytag because I thought it was good quality and I wanted it to be very quiet. Well, nope. Next time, for sure, it won't be a Maytag.

It came without a fridge, so I used some of my settlement money to buy one I had been dying to get - stainless, French door, with bottom drawer freezer! It worked fine for the first 9 months or so. Then, water started pouring through the ceiling of my downstairs master bedroom. Turns out it was coming from the freezer water line. Ceiling tiles ruined, carpet stained. Then it started making this god awful noise. It starts, rumbles for a while (long enough to wake everyone up or give the dog a coronary), then is quiet for a while.

Next, I open the freezer to find a sheet of ice across the bottom of the drawer. I assumed I had done something, so I got rid of it and thought nothing else of it. Last night, I get ready to make dinner and there is this blizzard of frost all over the freezer. It looks like a winter wonderland. Approximately 2-1/2 months ago, less than 7 years after I bought the fridge, it started getting too cold inside and then too warm and then too cold, etc. Then it stopped cooling altogether. From what I read, it was either a problem with the compressor or the relay on the compressor. There was a recall on the relay on some models, but not on mine.

I can't even afford a service call. Let alone a repair charge. If the compressor is the problem, I'm looking at a repair bill in the hundreds of dollars. I managed to get it outside after leaking spoiled food all over my floor. I washed it out and contacted Maytag after reading the hundreds of complaints. They sent someone out to fix the panel but he couldn't get it to cool. He said many times when a unit goes down that the acidity from produce along with moisture can eat through the aluminum components causing a freon leak. Obviously, this happened to me.

I contacted Maytag and they said they would fix that too but once I called back, they said that it was a separate issue. Then I spoke with another person who said they would send a tech to inspect. I took off work and finally got a courtesy call from tech saying he was told not to come. I was amazed I missed work waiting and got no call from Maytag saying they changed their mind. I called back in and was told flat out I would not be covered, even though the fridge was fine before this happened.

I suggest everyone read over the Consumer Protection Act which covers defective equipment causing issues by both injury and property damage. A class action lawsuit needs to be organized concerning this also. In the meantime, I implore each of you to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in your state along with Michigan where Maytag is headquartered. This will guarantee a response from corporate. Also, make copies of this forum and send it to your State Attorney General explaining how you have been sold a defective item.

They say ABC news once did a segment on this fridge issue also, so I suggest contacting them asking for a follow-up story. For those that use social media, go onto their Facebook and Twitter page to post a link to this site and the way you have been treated after spending over $2,000 and a fridge that has lasted 7 years or less. When I called Maytag to see what they thought, they said that because I called a non-Maytag assigned repair person (even though this small-business repair guy didn't even take apart the refrigerator), I could no longer get their repair plus one year warranty offer which runs 400 dollars. But there is nothing I see on their warranty page that says this. Here I was trying to help our local economy by calling a small mom-and-pop repair person who is known in our town and has a good reputation, but I guess that by doing that minor well-intentioned act, it goes against Maytag corporate policy. Wow, how foolish do I feel now?

I feel ashamed to admit this, but I actually started crying when I was on the phone with their customer help rep and asked, "Isn't there something that can be done?" I was thinking to myself that two months after Christmas with three kids is a tough time to replace a 1300-dollar refrigerator. I offered to pay the 400 dollars to get the refrigerator fixed by a sanctioned Maytag official with their warranty, but that I didn't know that I wasn't supposed to call anyone else besides Maytag if my appliances broke down. I would have never called our small local guy if I had known that Maytag corporate had such a policy. She said that no, there was nothing that she could do, and that is what happens to customers who call a non-Maytag assigned repair person.

I guess when this happens to your fridge, you ask your neighbors if they can keep some milk, lunch meat and cheese for you, at least until you can save up for another fridge. Thank goodness that dried pasta and Ragu sauce don't have to be refrigerated. There are also cans of peas and corn and dry cereal, so it should be okay.

I can't express how absolutely disappointed I am with myself and with my purchase, and how this has soured me on everything Maytag. I feel like an idiot. Can you believe that I had actually scrimped and saved up for months to buy this Maytag refrigerator and the extended warranty (hah, just to be safe)? I had bought it because I thought Maytag was a reputable company and because it was supposed to help the environment with its energy saving technology. But don't you think that a $1300 refrigerator should last more than 7 years (Believe it or not, this newer Maytag fridge was replacing a 20-year-old fridge that I gave to my cousins and which is still running to this day!)? And to add insult to injury, I already had a major repair done 4 years ago on this same French door Maytag fridge when it was only 3 years old.

Maytag should offer to come out and fix their mess, but all I received when I called Robin, the supervisor, at their Tennessee call center was a, "Sorry, there is nothing that I can do and there is no one else that you can speak to," and "Nope, there is no one at corporate that you can call for help either and I have no advice to offer you. I can give you a mailing address though, if you like." I think I did hear pity in her voice, so that was some comfort. Pity from a call center supervisor, think about that! How awful it must be for her if that is all that she can offer to the desperate people who look to her for guidance! I actually felt sorry for her after I hung up the phone. It must be terrible to know that the company that you work for is probably mistreating its customers and all that you can offer is an "I'm sorry". I wonder how often someone says a rosary for her and her workers taking on those endless calls for help. How often does she cry herself to sleep after a day of that?

I really don't like complaining online and I rarely do it, but this experience was just so awful and hopeless that I feel I had to say something to save other people pain and money. I hope that everyone learns from my miserable Maytag mistakes and please pass on my experiences to all of your friends and family. Those big tax refund checks will be coming soon, and I know that a lot of people upgrade their appliances with that money. Please, please think twice before you buy anything Maytag. I would feel better if I knew that people could learn from my stupidity. Remarkably, I was once gullible enough to trust and believe in American-made Maytag - goodness, was I wrong to do that. I am considering Facebooking my friends and family to let them know what happened and save them the heartache too. I hope that everyone who reads this can learn from my own mistakes and misguided trust in a company. In a world where so many companies throw away or roll over on their loyal customers, all I can say is something that I learned from a wise high school English teacher - "Et tu, Maytag? ".

I purchased a small (14.5 cubic feet) refrigerator for my basement from Home Depot on January 26, 2013. It was delivered on January 30, 2013. On February 14, 2013, we found that it was not cooling like it was supposed to. The soft drinks in it were not cold. I called Home Depot and was told I had to call Maytag for a repairman to come out. Since it was so new, I felt it should be replaced. They disagree. The warranty only calls for repair. So a repairman came out on Feb. 19th. He said that it has no freon. He doesn't know why. It could have a leak. It could have leaked out in the warehouse. There is no way to know this. He said another repairman would be out to fix it on the 20th.

On the 20th, no one showed up or called. I called the repair company, S & S Appliance of Bessemer. I was told the repairman that I needed is in Montgomery today and the repairman yesterday was told to tell me he would call me. He was told to not tell me someone would be out today. So now, I have to wait until tomorrow for someone else to call me and see when he can fit me in his schedule.

I think Maytag has a problem with their refrigerators. I think Home Depot has a problem not standing behind what they sell. I think S & S has a problem with their servicemen. I am not happy with any of these companies and will never buy another Maytag refrigerator or washer, but that's another story.

Service person is upset. I contacted corporate and they do not care and told me I should have bought their warranty. Yes, they had to be here when it was under warranty. Still freezing, they played with air hoses, replaced the temp panel and did everything they can, with no results. They're giving it one more try and it is going to be hooked up to the Silverado and put on I-75 with a sign on it.

Do not buy from this company. Terrible service. I emailed CEO and no response. I just tossed a tomato and strawberry on the tile floor. Yes, buy American. They moved their plant from Indiana (union) to I think TN for non-union. Well, get what you pay for and the employees get what they are paid for. I work in the building business and everyone knows not to buy this product! Just throwing your money away. One good thing is if you like frozen beverages, this is the product to buy! Never again! I purchased a Maytag French door refrigerator (model MF12569) two years ago. The bottom drawer freezer does not work well. Apparently, the inner tubing of the freezer clogs and it creates huge puddles of water. My floor got damaged and I keep calling Maytag and all I get is their apologies. I purchased an extra warranty which will expire on the third year. I am really disappointed with their product. I see why there are so many complaints filed and what makes matter worse is that they don't seem to acknowledge the problem. Apologies do not cut it. The dishwasher stopped working in the third year, and now, my refrigerator (model# mf12568AEB) won't cool. The technician told me that all of the Freon had leaked out because of a design flaw. We bought a Maytag refrigerator serial # K11101146 and model # MBL2258XES1 on 5/7/2011. We started seeing puddles on the floor about a month ago coming from the bottom freezer. The warranty on the refrigerator was only good for a year. We investigated it further online and saw that a lot of other people were having the same problem. We found a video on Youtube on the solution, which was to tear the bottom frig apart (which is a pain and takes about 3 hours to complete) and to thaw out all the ice accumulated on the coils and run hot water down the drain until that thaws out. It makes a real mess. Now we see that this will probably have to be done again and again from others online who are having the same problem.

We never had this problem with any of our refrigerators or any problem with them for that matter. Our last one was a 15-year old Amana and we wanted a more energy efficient refrigerator. We bought this one at Home Depot thinking that this one would last us for the rest of our lives. We are in our mid 60's now. This should not be happening at all especially as much as we paid for the refrigerator. I contacted Maytag and they more or less said, “Sorry about your luck.” I hope something can be done about this, especially for the amount of complaints filed. Unfortunately I did not take pictures but if it happens again, which I understand from other complaints that it will. Thank you.

They elevated it to the manufacturer who was going to come out and look at it on Friday, November 23 between 8 and 12. (This is day after Thanksgiving is my only day off.) He doesn't show up nor does he call. So, I called and he is running behind. I should wait until he gets here. Evidently, he doesn't have a phone. We moved into our first house just over two years ago and decided we needed to get a new refrigerator. We did a ton of research online, reading reviews, etc. We found a few not so great complaints regarding Maytag; however, we took our chances. (Note that we live in a house built in the 40's, so the fridge space is small and we needed a fridge size that is smaller than normal. We didn't have many options.) Well, a little less than 12 months later (yes, luckily right before the warranty expired) our ice dispenser stopped working properly. The mini-ice door would not close properly, resulting in a lot of frost in where the ice door was located. (There was so much we couldn't open the freezer door. It would get stuck.) So, we called out the repair guy and he said he had never seen this issue before and basically had to replace the whole flap and parts. Sweet. It was fixed and cost was covered!

Well, about 5 months later, it happened again! Ah, they got it fixed yet again. Well, another six months later and after the warranty expired (lucky us), the fridge completely stopped cooling. (And it just happened to be Halloween, not a great day for a house issue.) So, we had to remove all our perishable food and place it in a cooler (which works hundred times better than Maytag products), and move all frozen food to a family members house 15 minutes away (luckily!). We were also super lucky we found a repair company that could come out at 5pm the next day, which happened to be a Friday! Awesome company (Conner's Repair in Metro-Detroit). He concluded the defrost board was broken, meaning it was freezing and creating frost and then not defrosting, clogs the vents and not allowing circulation to occur. He was shocked when he found out we only had this fridge for 2 years and said this is something that normally happens in 20-year old fridges.

I then decided to call Maytag and nicely requested a refund for the issue. I was told no due to the warranty expiring and also because we didn't use a Maytag repair company. I didn't want to wait a week as I thought this was something that needed immediate attention. I also am not sure why it matters who you get to fix your fridge. I have an invoice for proof of the issue and the repairman even said he'd call to verify the issue. I don’t understand why I have to pay for something that was not properly produced, and not to mention the time out of my schedule to deal with Maytag's issues. I now know not to buy any Maytag products due to the lack quality. I guess I learned the hard way.

I will never buy another Maytag appliance. We built our home in 2005 and bought brand new Maytag kitchen appliances (refrigerator, gas oven/stovetop, dishwasher, and hood microwave). In seven years, we have had problem after problem with all four appliances. We had to replace the compressor in the refrigerator in the first 18 months and then the fan in the refrigerator about a year ago. We have had to replace the heating unit in the oven twice and the handle has broken off of the oven door twice. We have had to replace the handle latch on the dishwasher once and today, the microwave stopped working. We are not rough on our appliances (especially the microwave as we rarely use it), so I think the fact that every single Maytag appliance has broken down one to three times in different capacities in the last seven years says it all. We have had a very poor experience with this brand and will definitely never buy another Maytag appliance.

We built a new home in 2008 and purchased a Maytag appliance package from Home Depot, including a dishwasher, stove and refrigerator. From the beginning, we had problems with our French door refrigerator (MFC2061HEW; it has been discontinued). Within the first year we had 3 ice makers replaced because it was not making any ice. Now, mind you, we went through Maytag to have their repairman to service our appliance and they set up all the service calls. We limped by for awhile and called a different repairman to come and check the fridge because it was not staying cold or making ice again and, of course, it was out of warranty. The first thing he did was check the freon and we were told that it didn't have enough freon to keep it going, so he recharged it and it worked great.

We have had to have the repairman come back again this month because it stopped making ice and the temperature for upper and lower was all over the place. He checked the freon again and said the unit has a slow leak in it and he was unable to fix that. I contacted Maytag because I felt if the first repairman had checked the freon from the beginning, we wouldn't be having this problem. The only suggestion I got from them was call a company with a dye kit test and that they are sorry, but it's not under warranty. I don't know about anyone else, but $2000.00 for a fridge that has been a pain since day one is a lot of money to replace. I feel they don't care about their customers and they should be responsible for paying for the repair that should have been caught from the get-go.

We have experienced everything from a malfunctioning ice maker, flashing control panel, overloaded compressor, erratic freezer (freezes much of the fridge contents), and doors not staying closed/inadvertently popping open. We have owned this fridge since 2007 and have repaired the ice maker and the freezing problems on our own dime. When the clicking sound woke the entire house up at 5 am, I finally decided to post! I realize that appliances are not perfect, and that Maytag had the best of intentions when designing and producing this product, but what really infuriates me is that Maytag has known about this widespread inherent problem since late 2006! Why no recall? Why no notice? Why no assistance? When I called the customer service line this morning, the representative acted like she'd never even heard of this fridge having problems - yeah, right.

All you have to do is Google the model number or just "Maytag fridge panel flashing and clicking problem" to discover thousands of similar complaints. I do not fault Maytag for manufacturing a "less than perfect" appliance, but I do hold them accountable for adequately repairing/replacing such a rampant and unsafe (compressor overload) product! Maybe it is time for a class action. Something needs to be done to protect the consumer from a company that is so slow to correct a long-standing and potentially dangerous problem!

It turns out they sold me an extended warranty, but that was never explained in the conversation. Prior to contacting them, I had Sears out to fix it; they are the ones that told me it was the compressor. 1 week after buying the extended warranty, the repair company came out to fix it and found out the refrigerator was unplugged and informed me it needed to be plugged in for 24 hours in order for him to determine what was wrong with it.

I scheduled an appointment 1 week later. When they came back, they said it was the compressor, and they needed to order the parts. 1 week later, they came back, and the compressor they came with did not work. 3 weeks now, no refrigerator. They said they would put a rush on the order, haha. Now, I have to wait another 8 days for them to come out to repair. 4 weeks without a refrigerator? I think there is some type of implied warranty when you purchase large appliances; these companies are getting away with murder. Are refrigerators now disposable commodities? I bought my Maytag French Door Refrigerator model MFF2258VEW2 in 2010. A little over a year, it froze my vegetables. They came out and fixed it (over $800.00). Six months later, it froze up. I called and they said they would send someone out (but I would have to pay for it), I can't afford that kind of money. I got someone to come out a lot cheaper. Well 6 months later, it froze my vegetables again. I called and all they can say is, “I am sorry.” They should replace the refrigerator; it's a little over 2 years old and it's a lemon for sure. I had a Maytag for 30 years and never gave me any trouble.

We purchased a French door Maytag refrigerator model MFD2561HEB in November 2007. In August 2008, the unit stopped working suddenly. The high voltage control board was replaced under warranty, but the tech could not determine why the board failed. I called Maytag to demand a new refrigerator. The best they would do was to extend the warranty for 6 months, no charge. The unit quit twice more in September. A tech was summoned (paid service call), nothing found. It started working again. Since then, the thing has quit several times. We unplug, move all food to a second refrigerator, wait a day, plug it in, and move the food back.

The useless box quit completely this week, not quite 5 years of service life. The tech said the board must be replaced again, no guarantee. We declined. I called Maytag again to demand a new replacement and escalated the complaint. They are to call back, ha! In the 5 years of poor service (and poor customer service) from Maytag, the 30-year old second refrigerator has been up to the task of preserving our food. This experience has made me vow never to do business with a Whirlpool-affiliated brand again.

My refrigerator is a lemon! We bought a Maytag bottom freezer French door refrigerator model #MFD2561HEW in May of 2007. Less than a year later, it stopped working and ruined all the food inside. I can't remember the problem that time, but it was fixed by Maytag and we were reimbursed for a portion of the food we lost. Two years later, the temperature got warm in the refrigerator and freezer sections, and we were gone for a couple of days, so when we got home, all of our food was spoiled. This time we had an extended warranty in effect and they replaced a circuit board, but we were out the food. A few months later, the same thing happened. This time we were home and saved most of the food. The compressor was replaced, again under warranty, but it took 2 weeks to get the part.

Now, less than a year later, the freezer and refrigerator compartments are getting too warm and frost is forming in the back of the freezer. When it finally does get cool, it freezes the food in the refrigerator section. It also makes loud "bumping" sounds. I paid $80 to a repairman today to tell me that there's nothing wrong with it, that's just the way it runs! He suggested I put a gallon of milk jugs filled with water in the freezer to hold the temperature when it starts to rise! This piece of junk is just 5 years old! When I complained, I was told to call Maytag and discuss it with them. This refrigerator was not cheap and I see that many others have had similar problems. How do they get away with selling an inferior product?

Now, we go on vacation and come back to all of our food ruined because the refrigerator stopped working! No refrigerator should stop working within two years!

I called Maytag and they offered me a Repair Plus One package of $302.73! Are you kidding? We paid $400.00 for fridge. Then of course, only one-year warranty and have to pay at least $75 for a service call, labor plus parts! If it’s the compressor, the charge is $326.20, plus shipping and handling! What a joke! There needs to be longer warranty and should offer free service calls and much more. I am disgusted in Maytag products and in which we purchased due to a reputable name! Never again.

My Maytag refrigerator, model number mff2557heb, serial number 10375839gv, was purchased in 5/2005. Two weeks ago, this refrigerator stopped working. I called the Maytag technician and then right away came to my house and find out it is the compressor that needs to be replaced. He told me to search if it is under warranty. I searched in the internet Maytag compressor warranty and I found it and then called the Maytag representative. I told them I have found in their website that compressor of this Maytag is covered for 10 years but labor is not included. Then they asked me to fax it. I faxed the copy on 6/20 and they responded on 6/22. He said they received the copy and he said, "Yes, it is covered for 10 years but you will shoulder the labor."

So to make the story short, this Maytag representative scheduled Friday, 6/29 for the Maytag technician to fix my refrigerator. My husband did not go to work yesterday, 6/29, Friday, so he will be home for this Maytag tech. Maytag tech came at about 2pm yesterday and when he confirmed that it is the compressor that is the problem, he asked for the warranty paper. And when my husband present the proof, the copy of their warranty coverage that came from the Maytag website, he refused to work with my refrigerator because he said the one in the internet is not valid.

It is really upsetting because I faxed the copy of it to them on 6/20/12 and they honored it. That's why they arranged the technician to come to my house and then my husband did not work for them to work with our refrigerator and then asking me $79 for just saying that it is not covered by the warranty. I even gave them the model number and the serial number of the refrigerator so they can verify if it is covered. He said yes 10 years warranty on the compressor. In fact, two employees that I have spoken to both agreed that it is 10 years coverage except for the supervisor named Rachel. Her employees agreed to 10 years based on the paper that I have faxed them and it came from their website and they don't want to honor it after they sent the technician to my house. Thank you so much for your time and for reading about my grievances against Maytag employees.

I purchased Maytag refrigerator (model # MSD2572VES). The fridge side stopped working. I was told that the vent/chute between the freezer and fridge ices up and prevents the cold air from the freezer to go through the fridge. The tech said that Maytag was sending him a tube of silicone to apply all around freezer and fridge and that this will probably fix the problem. So in other words, because of a design flaw, the refrigerator cannot function without adding silicone (maybe). I believe I purchased a lemon with a design flaw and they want me to accept a permanent band-aid as the solution. Shouldn't I have right to demand another model instead of having to accept a cheap alternative (silicone)? Now, if factory installed parts break off, can you imagine silicone tubed in after the fact where there was no silicone "crevasse"? I can't imagine it staying on - permanently.

He suggested switching bulbs to 25 watts which cannot be found for fridges. The freezer continues to go out and sometimes restarts itself or by flipping the breaker switch, brings it back. Yesterday, he put a new starter relay on the compressor stating that this series of fridge/ freezer has had a problem with the compressor and Maytag will not take responsibility for this. We insisted on one without a dent. They replaced the refrigerator, and shortly after, the board and the ice-maker went out right away.

Although the parts were under warranty, we had to pay for the labor. The refrigerator is 6 years old and now it is making a constant knocking sound. I noticed a couple of months later that the freezer was freezing up again and was worried that the fridge would go out again and in February 2012, they came out again and it turned out that the freezer had been put back incorrectly and the freezer gasket didn't fit right and thus, the freezing up on the circuit board.

I purchased a Maytag stainless steel French door model the middle of 2006. While cleaning the French doors with the cleaning product given to me with the purchase of the new fridge, I notice what looked like coffee on the doors. It wasn't, it was rust on the stainless steel doors. I called the service tech and they came out. Rubbing the fridge, he told me it wasn't rust. He took a closer look and found that it was in fact rust. He called his office; they told him that rusting on the doors has been an issue lately. He charged me $65.00 for what I already knew. I called Maytag and it took a while, but they decided to send new doors. However, I had to have a Maytag rep install it, which would cost me. I didn't have it done.

Two years later in 2010, the French doors felt hot to the touch and the inside was warm and not cooling. The freezer was fine. I called for a tech to come out and it’s another $65.00 to fix a fan motor that blows cool air from the bottom to the top. Oh, it’s not under warranty because it wasn't inside with the motor. Total cost: $235.00. In 2010, I woke up and opened the fridge to get milk out. It was warm and so was the inside of the fridge. I thought it was the same problem, but the freezer also was warm. Upset and not wanting to pay for this again, I unplugged the thing and started using a little fridge that I have stored in the basement. It has no freezer.

Today, I finally got over being pissed and decided that I would have a tech come out and find out and finally fix it. The tech said that the compressor has failed and it would cost $790.00 to fix. I'm not having it fixed, so it’s another $65.00 gone. The tech said that the compressor in Maytags/Whirlpools has been a pretty big issue lately. All I can say is that I will not ever purchase Whirlpool products again. From inside to the outside, this product has been unsatisfactory. I just noticed that the rubber is failing on one of the French doors. Wake up, Whirlpool. Model number is MFD2561HES.

The compressor failed along with ice makers and some high-use parts inside. I can understand the plastic lids and guides wearing out with heavy use, but not the compressor.

I called Maytag and was directed to their proud Tennessee Service Location. It might as well be in China, where the real owners are located. She said, "Oh well, we build quality units that are to last 12 years. However, they are man-made, and you can't count on that being a positive thing." What arrogance. After several adjustments nothing changed. I ordered a water control valve and installed it. The problem persisted. I installed a water pressure regulator but the problem persisted. I installed a water filter, the problem persisted. I turned off the entire ice maker and the problem persisted. The problem wasn't the ice maker. The real problem was the defrost cycle of the evaporator. The drain for the water was plugged with ice. I bought a Maytag refrigerator, model MBF 2256 KEQ2, two and a half years ago. Now the cooling coils are freezing up. I checked heater and thermostat for continuity and they were okay so the only thing left was the timer control circuit. On the earlier models, the timer control circuit is controlled by a Timer Motor or an Adaptive Defrost Timer which is separate from the main Electronic Control Board and much less expensive. On later models (including mine), the timer control circuit is incorporated into the main Electronic Control Board so if your automatic defrost quits working, more than likely you will have to replace the main board. I did not purchase an extended warranty because I believe they are useless from past experience. I bought the part on Amazon.com, received it in four days and replaced it myself for a cost of $78. Our Maytag refrigerator was about a year old when we noticed rust on the edge of the stainless steel doors. I called Maytag and they were nice enough to replace the doors even though the warranty had expired by their standards. Keep in mind, the warranty starts when you purchase the product, not when you install it. We ordered our appliances from Lowe's well in advance of our kitchen remodel so we would have them when we needed them. The time our appliances sat in Lowe's warehouse used up two months of our warranty.

Now, the new stainless steel doors are rusting and they are refusing to do any thing about it. Should stainless steel rust? Maytag doesn't seem to care whether their product performs the way they should. It's all about the warranty. Once the warranty lapses, they could care less whether their product blows up. That's the customers' problem. Whatever happened to building a quality product that lasted and customers bought for generations? Obviously, that's a thing of the past.

My goal in writing this is to make consumers aware of appliance warranties. When I spoke to Lucas, a Maytag customer service supervisor, he informed me their products offered no warranty on the finish of the product. So, according to Lucas, the finish on your brand new Maytag appliance could flake off like dandruff and it's your problem regardless whether it's a manufacturing defect or not. Remember, buyer beware!
