I bought a fridge, model number MBF1958, it's a top fridge-bottom freezer. The freezer part leaked and spilled water that then froze onto the bottom of the freezer, which of course froze. I discovered this 1 month after the 1 year warranty ended. Maytag gave me a "courtesy" repair service guaranteed for 90 days. Of course, 2 weeks after the 90-day period ended, I have the same problem again.

I always thought Maytag was the best, maybe because of their ad. Finally, I bought a refrigerator two months ago, which has turned into a nightmare. The company has sent a tech six times and they all say that it is a bad design which makes my vegetable drawer full of water because of moisture. And they refused to do anything about it every time (bad management). They have already spent more money on service than what I paid for the refrigerator. Figure that out.
Do not buy Maytag. It was the biggest mistake I made. I also bought a washer and a dryer at the same time. I wish I could send them all back because of the ignorant people they have working for them in their complaint and service office. Anybody out there, if you want to buy an appliance, make sure it is not Maytag.

I have a 4-year old Maytag refrigerator. The back of the top freezer compartment is frosted and frozen, and the bottom refrigerator is now too warm to put food into. I wonder if a lonely non-busy Maytag repairman can come and fix it? Oh wait! That's the deceptive false advertising that I 'bought into' when I wrongly assumed that these were great appliances. I can't afford to get this fixed and after what I've read from other peoples experiences, it wouldn't matter anyway. It would just break again anyway. What a joke! I'll unplug it and try replugging it in after it thaws and maybe that will work.

April 26, 2011, I purchased a Maytag top and bottom fridge from Home Depot. After a few days, I noticed frost starting to form in my frost-free freezer and the fridge wasn't really that cold. I adjusted the dials thinking that may do the trick. Nothing changed, it was all the same and instead, frost was thicker. I contacted Maytag, which by the way was taken over by Whirlpool. I told them my situation and since I had just bought the fridge, I wanted a new replacement. They told me things didn't work that way, that I had to honor the warranty.
Fine, we are almost entering October now. I have had several services calls, I have written to the Better Business Bureau, I have lost a few hundred dollars worth of food for it would be full of ice and had to be thrown out, I have contacted the executive offices of Whirlpool but they, along with the Better Business Bureau are not doing a thing. Tomorrow, once again, I am having a service call and once again, I know the issue will not be fixed. All I wanted was to either get my money back, along with extra for the loss of food or for them to just exchange it for another one, since this one was purchased with a problem.
I really don't think that it's right that they are able to get away with this. Just looking at this page, I see that there are plenty of people with this same issue. What is being done about it? If it were them with this issue instead of us, you know ** well they would have had a new fridge the following day. Here is my model# M1TXEMMWQ and serial# VS04658359 for this fridge. Please, I would really appreciate some help here.

We purchased our home five years ago. We bought a new Maytag oven and fridge/freezer. Within one year, the oven control went out. Then a few months later, the heating element went out. Within two years, our fridge/freezer went out. I purchased Maytag products because of the commercial where the Maytag repairman is doing nothing. I will never purchase a Maytag product again.

We bought Maytag refrigerator MTB2195 AEW in 2006 for a hefty sum. The store where it was purchased was closed. The place where it was serviced was closed. We have had seals replaced, fixed, etc. twice. The freezer is full of ice balls hanging. The refrigerator doesn't keep as cold as it should and stays steamed on glass. I had a repairman again today and was told that he can't fix it. The frame will not stay tight. There's a 3/8 in. drop from left side to right. It can't seal properly.
You have always been a great product. What's happening here? What can you do for me; I'm at wits end. I have an older refrigerator in the basement that's 26 years old and is still going strong. I need something done quickly as I don't want to wrangle with this ice any longer and shouldn't have to. Please give me your attention on this as soon as possible.

We purchased a Maytag refrigerator model # 1TXEGMYWOO. The refrigerator part froze all of the food in it. We moved the temperature selector to the last place (two notches away from the recommended setting), and the food still froze. The furniture store we purchased it from replaced it with another refrigerator (same model). And that one did the exact same thing. We had to throw out more groceries. Obviously, this model is defective. We are now waiting for the store to replace this one (with a different model and brand). They have been very good about trying to make things right for us. Maytag, however, is a different story. They were very rude and indifferent when I called to complain. Their policy is to repair or replace the part (temperature gauge). I don't want a new part. This is a new product. And I bought it expecting it to work. I have had to throw hundreds of dollars worth of groceries away. I was very disappointed in their attitude. I will not purchase another Maytag item again. They used to have a good reputation. They now sell inferior products and do not stand behind their products.

This has nothing to do with the vendor. This is clearly shoddy workmanship on the part of Maytag. I bought this refrigerator in 2005 and already the compressor is gone. So therefore, I have to replace the whole unit.
What kind of ** is this? You mean to tell me that you people can't find someone to build a compressor that holds up more than a few years? Why don't you try American made and built.
I am disillusioned by the whole industry. I'm sure the people at the top could care less.

I purchased Maytag French door stainless fridge 5 years ago for $2200. The doors were out of alignment and I put in new control board; both items almost right away. Then in May 2011, we had to replace another control board for about $400. Then in July 2011, the compressor went out at a cost of $300 for the compressor, $350 for labor. I called to Maytag, Gwen agreed to pay for the compressor but not the labor to put it in. So we now have about $1400 invested in our $2200 refrigerator. Letters to Maytag CEO Mr. Fettig remain unanswered. Do not buy a Maytag appliance!

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator, stove, dishwasher and microwave in 2006. Like another commenter, I also insisted on all Maytag appliances.
What a huge disappointment. About four months into owning the microwave, a computer module had to be replaced. The microwave stopped working about six weeks out of warranty. It just stopped working, period. I was told by Maytag that they consider microwave a disposable product and they would not cover the repairs. It was cheaper to buy a new one than repair the old one so I replaced it with another brand.
The dishwasher failed after 4.5 years (would not drain) and again it was cheaper to replace it than fix it. The oven range handle broke off (normal use) in August 2011 and that cost me approximately $200 for the part and the service call. The refrigerator has had two service calls for the ice maker to replace the motor. The first was covered by Maytag, the second by me. This occurred when the unit was approximately three years old. In August 2011, I had another $90 repair because the ice maker drain (?) was plugged and had to be cleared fixed.
I have never been able to pay what I paid for these appliances. Prior to this, we always purchased a middle-range appliance and we never had problems like this.
I will never purchase another Maytag product again. This is so disappointing. I live in MI and I wanted to support a MI business. Unfortunately, I won't be able to help out this particular company any longer. Don't buy Maytag appliances. It is a waste of money.

I bought Maytag frost-free refrigerator last August 2006. But now, I noticed that ice builds up in the freezer. The product is only five years old but I was told by Whirlpool that they had discontinued making defrost heater. The reason why I bought Maytag was the ad on TV showing the Maytag service technician seating and doing nothing, implying that Maytag brand is a good product. Think again before buying Maytag products.

On 7/8/11, the non-freezer part of the refrigerator failed to cool to needed temperature. This fridge is model MI TXEMMWWOO, with serial no EY4705715, purchased on 7/13/10 at Home Depot.
We contacted Maytag and were told to wait until Monday. On Monday, we were told that a serviceman would be out on Thursday, the 14th. On Wednesday, the 13th, the serviceman called to inform us that he would come the next day and that he would have to collect for the call. Since the fridge was still under warranty, we demurred.
We went to Home Depot for advice. They called Maytag, and after an hour of getting the runaround, we were told that the serviceman would come on the 19th and that the call would be covered by the warranty.
On the 18th, the serviceman called with the same message as before: he would have to collect the charges for the service call. Another trip to Home Depot led to the advice to activate the extended warranty at this point.
Under the extended warranty, the serviceman came on the 21st, had to order a new part, and finally installed the new part on the 29th, three weeks after the misery began, and after spoiled foods, many bags of ice, and great inconvenience.
We have other Maytag appliances, but this purchase has been a cruel lesson in Maytag's lack of product quality, deceptive warranty practice, and indifference to consumer satisfaction.

3 years ago, we purchased all new Maytag appliances for our home. Within one year, we had issues with the top load refrigerator getting warm and the bottom load freezer getting extremely cold. After calling Maytag and getting horrible customer service (long wait on the phone, no supportive/suggestive advice, rude representative), we were given a phone number for a local Maytag repair man who charged $300 just to walk into the house.
He was literally in and then out of our house within 10 minutes. His advice was to unplug and "defrost" the refrigerator for 24 hours. Thankfully, his suggestion worked, but should have been given to us as a troubleshooter by the representative on the phone with Maytag.
We have had to unplug and defrost the refrigerator about every 3 weeks since. It has become very annoying and stressful. There is obviously a defect in the refrigerator that should be replaced by Maytag! I will never buy a Maytag product again.

About 9 yrs ago, we remodeled our house. And when it came to appliances, I was vehement we were going to go with Maytag because of their great name and reliability (We have 7 sons and needed reliable appliances). Boy, was I ever wrong?! We have gone through 2 Maytag dishwashers and countless repairs to the Maytag dryer. And our top of the line refrigerator has been a piece of junk!
Of course, shortly after the year warranty was up, the flimsy pieces of plastic holding up the shelves started breaking off. The repairman, who came to replace the cooling coil on the refrigerator, said those shelf plugs couldn't be fixed. The whole front of all drawers have come off as well. He mentioned that Maytag was going bankrupt and started compromising on fit and finish. And he said that we just happened to purchase in that time frame. Now, we have a compressor that needs to be replaced for over $500! I have, in my garage, a Gibson freezer from my grandma that is 40 yrs old, and literally the most reliable appliance we have. Never have we made any repairs to it!
I called Whirlpool (since they bought Maytag) to tell about my horrible experience with Maytag, and let them know we have to replace these appliances. I asked if there was anything they could/would do (discounts whatever) to redeem their name. I was told that they would not be able to help at all. So, I told them that I would not give Whirlpool anymore of my business and warn anyone I could, not to buy Maytag, Whirlpool or Amana. Isn't there any appliance company out there who cares about customer service, a good name and a reliable product?!

My Maytag fridge was purchased on 2006 and since then have had multiple service repairs. Too much freezing, not cooling at all, fan replaced. Now freezer door not sealing.
I tried a few days ago to get extension on warranty but was told it had expired so I could not renew. Why wasn't I told I needed to renew back in April before it expired? I believe they are not renewing because of the history of the appliance as it has too many repairs, it will not be cost effective for the company. We have also, in the last 10 years, purchased a washer and dryer and a large screen TV and all have the same problems. What are the chances of getting all lemon appliances? Obviously we are not shopping there any longer but many people are going to have to deal with same issues we did. All the while the company keeps making money!

In the past, Maytag was considered a high end product. I wonder where the manufacturing is taking place for most of the parts. Could be it was cheaper to go overseas and now we are all paying for unacceptable products.
I will never purchase Maytag. Maytag should be selling products they can stand behind! Products that are made in the USA, where our standards are higher and we expect products that work!

I purchased a Maytag side-by-side refrigerator in May 2010 to replace a 20-month-old Whirlpool fridge with a dead compressor. The now 14-month-old Maytag has a dead compressor. I have been told by the repairmen that I have come to know that the compressors used in these units are of poor quality and do not last. That must work out well for the appliance industry if consumers must replace a $1,000 + unit every year or two.
To Maytag's credit, I spoke to customer service and they agreed to cover the parts and labor for the repair even though it is two months past warranty. Maybe I can get another year out of this reliable appliance. I am told that all of the major brand appliances use the same compressor.

I purchased a stainless steel Maytag Plus Bottom Freezer, model MBB2256GES, in 2005 from Home Depot. After three years, a loud knocking noise could be heard from the freezer. Food in the fridge was freezing. I cannot keep any fruits or vegetables in the fridge because they freeze. I came home one day and all food in the fridge was spoiled and the freezer was a block of ice. I called Maytag customer service and was simply told to call and schedule a repairman to look at the fridge. The repairman came and said that the thermostat was bad and it would need to be replaced at my expense since the warranty expired a few weeks ago.
So now every 3-4 weeks, I have to take out all food from the fridge and the freezer in order to thaw the freezer as it frosts up solid in the back and the fridge then starts blowing warm air. I thaw it and within 1-2 days, frost is building up again. I called Maytag customer service again and again. I was told to call the repairman. The repairman came again and said it was a bad compressor this time and would need to be replaced, again at my expense. I can only use the freezer for meats or vegetables already frozen. Ice cream only melts. So I either keep defrosting or pay another service call fee, parts fee, installation fee, all the while losing time from work because I'm sitting next to a stainless steel lemon.

We purchased a Maytag bottom-freezer-drawer fridge #MBL2256KES5 a little over a year ago online from HomeDepot.com for $1300 plus taxes. The top part stopped cooling 26 days past the one-year warranty date. After waiting on hold for 30 minutes, I was simply told, "There was nothing we can do." Really? This is the best they can do? Yes, it is. They did offer to schedule a repair with what must be a very, very, very busy Maytag repairman, not the "lonely" one you may have seen on their ads. I declined.
Now that I'm reading various websites, I see our scenario is actually better than average with most having all sorts of problems with their Maytag appliance during the one year warranty period. We didn't buy the extended warranty since consumers' advocate groups consistently recommend against it. Shame on us for not paying attention to these published horror stories before we bought. We will never, ever consider buying a Maytag appliance again and will discourage everyone we know from doing so. Paying $1300 for an appliance should get you at least five years down the road before you start feeding the meter.

For all I know they still work. In 2005, I bought a Maytag French door refrigerator. Like others filing a complaint, it failed. The compressor went out. A Whirlpool compressor had to be jury-rigged to make it run. It failed again because the previous fix did not hold. The interior of the fridge is not square so the wide deli-drawer lid broke. My sister-in law and I both had problems with Maytag Neptune washing machines. Now I have an LG. Her refrigerator broke too and so did her dishwasher. I told her to unplug it and I would be home. I left work and went home. As soon as I walked in the house, the smell of burning plastic was evident. I pulled the fridge out a bit and saw flames coming out of the back. I grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. Thank goodness my house didn't burn down!
I called Maytag and the woman said, "Oh, didn't you know about the recall on that unit?" No, I did not know about the recall! She then asked when I could be available for the repairman to come fix it. I had to wait 3 days for a repairman; I had to take off another day from work. I also had to run out and buy a little dorm fridge to have some milk and stuff for my children. I had to throw away about $150 worth of food that was in the fridge, which I itemized and sent to Maytag with a copy of the receipt for the mini-fridge as per C.S.
So the repairman shows up and says the fire was so bad it melted the compressor, also! Now he had to order a compressor and have someone else come fix it, I asked how long and he said 3-5 days! So, I was without my fridge for over a week.
Today, 10-13-2010, a Maytag rep called me and said that they will send me $100 and that she will not cover the cost of the mini-fridge or the food that was thrown out. Also, they would not do anything for the 3 days I missed from work or the trouble because of the fire! I told her that was unacceptable and she said that was all they would do. I then asked her for the name of her supervisor, which she refused to give me. She refused to give me her last name. All I got was Christine, and she said that if I wanted to sue, my lawyer could look up the information.

I purchased Maytag Refrigerator (freezer on bottom) Model #MBF2556HEW July 17, 2004. It last a little over 5 years. On October 9, 2009, the freezer started frosting up and then the refrigerator failed. After paying a repairman $150 to tell us the Electric control circuit board was bad, we paid $100.00 and installed it ourselves. Now, Oct. 11, 2010, the freezer quit and now the refrigerator and so all our food is spoiled once again. I understand from reading other complaints about Maytag it is fruitless to seek remedy and Maytag knows their products are junk and won't do anything about it. Just wondering what brand to buy next. We purchased a Maytag Armoire s/s refrigerator/freezer in summer, 2006. I assume it was made in 2005. We took it to our home in Baja, Mexico (just south of San Diego). The refrigerator failed this summer, while we were away on a long trip. The freezer still worked. Then the freezer failed in early Sept. (also while we were away). The local guys wanted $250 for a new electronic board. No thanks.
I got one online for just over $100, and have plugged it in, but it requires that a code be programmed into the front panel. There is no place on this refrigerator with any model number on it. So, I have no idea how to program it. Anyone have any ideas? I sure would like to have a functioning refrigerator again! I lost about $300 in spoiled frozen food. After reading all these comments, I sure hope replacing the board does the trick but I need that model number!

I told them I purchased all Maytag for myself as well as many homes built or remodeled. I explained in my second home that I have all Maytag. Refrigerator’s compressor let go after 5 years and 4 months and about 250 days of use. All tags, ties inside and stickers are still on like new. They told me what do you expect after 5 years? Things happen and products do not last forever.
It’s unrealistic to think a manufacturer can provide assistance after 5 years. A refrigerator should last a lot longer than 5 years, especially one with so little use and can be documented. $800.00 for compressor to be fixed. I bought new refrigerator instead of wasting $800.00 on inferior product. I bought a high end washer dryer from Maytag as well valve problems on little used washer 3 times and water everywhere each time. Again, nothing they can do. $229.00 each time.

Now, after almost five years, it has stopped working completely and needs a new compressor. I bought a Maytag refrigerator with a bottom freezer less than three years ago. It has been a nightmare! Last summer, the refrigerator is quite cooling. However, the freezer continued to overwork, freezing everything like a brick. We paid nearly three hundred dollars to get it fixed because the repairman said it needed a new motherboard. This summer 2010, the refrigerator is quite cooling again and the freezer froze everything like a brick. This time I called the Maytag Company and the person I spoke with said the refrigerator was frozen up and the solution was simple - unplug the appliance and let it completely unthaw, plug it in again and it should work fine. She said the motherboard was fine since the freezer was still working and I probably didn't need a new one last summer since the freezer was still working then.
So I just spent $300.00 for nothing. I did as I was told and unplugged the appliance. The fridge began working once again. However, three weeks later, the same old thing happened again. I came home to find the refrigerator temperature nearly 70 degrees. I am so sick of the unreliability of this Maytag refrigerator! The food waste alone in three breakdowns was very expensive. My suggestion is see a Maytag refrigerator that runs the other direction. The economic impact was significant, $300.00 last summer for the repair plus the cost of all the food lost. Twice this summer, I have had to throw out food because of the unreliability of this refrigerator.

I finally gave in last year and replaced it with a top load model and that is now broken just 14 months after buying it. There is no Maytag quality any longer and their products are totally unreliable.
I called to see if I'd get any satisfaction from their customer service team and all I received was some lady who seemed to be too busy chewing her food than worrying about taking care of a long standing customer. Rest assured, I will share my disappoint with as many people as possible. Maytag just lost a very good customer and I'm posting this so that others avoid making the same mistakes I did. I thought I was alone, but reading all the complaints, I quickly learned that I'm not. I want you to be aware of my issue as well, and hopefully Maytag will take responsibility/ownership for their inadequate product.
I moved in my newly built home with all Maytag appliances on September 2004. I experienced a minor problem with the ice maker, November of the same year, but the issue was fixed within a week while under warranty . However, April 2010, my side by side refrigerator (model MZD665HEB) stopped working/cooling. It was repaired with an overload relay part. Well, four months later, the refrigerator stopped working again. I called customer service again, but as with the first 2010 incident, they only offered me the names/phone numbers of repair services in my surrounding area.
Of course this is another expense to me for a refrigerator that I've had for only 6 years. I'm praying Maytag will do the right thing, as other companies are doing by recalling/replacing their substandard products. Maytag, what happened to your Vision? I grew up with quality built Maytag products and services. I cannot afford to continue putting money on repairs, and must decided on my next step if Maytag does not take ownership.
I'm a diabetic, and unable to refrigerate my insulin, which has been the most severe medical issue. I've lost frozen foods, and several refrigerated required foods to the tune of $250-$300.

Earlier, in April 2008 the refrigerator stopped working. I called Maytag and they set me up with a company to come and fix my lemon of a refrigerator. I had to pay for the service call, but they were more than happy to pay for the major part (compressor) that needed to be replaced. At the time I voiced my concern with Maytag that such a new appliance would need so much work and my concern about other stories I had read about the exact same model failing. Yesterday, I had the repairman out for the third time in three weeks since the compressor failed due to leaking hoses causing oil and water to get into the compressor. Yesterday I received the bad news it was completely unrepairable. I purchased a Maytag side-by-side refrigerator in March 2009. In May 2010, the ice maker stopped working and had to be replaced. Of course, it was 6 weeks out of warranty. Maytag agreed to pay for replacement parts. It has now been replaced at a service cost of over $160.00 to me. Imagine, a brand new $1200.00 refrigerator whose ice maker dies after a little over 12 months. Of course, when I called Maytag, they said they couldn't or wouldn't pay any part of that exorbitant repair bill. Reading some of the other consumer stories about Maytag refrigerators gives me chills, pardon the pun. Stay away from Maytag refrigerators!

My wife and I bought a Maytag refrigerator in 2004. Every year since we bought it, we've been having repair people come out time after time. We've had the refrigerator serviced five separate times to date. We've never even filed for reimbursement for each time we've lost the food in the refrigerator. That's because they have a monetary cap that doesn't even come close to the money we've lost every time it's happened.
One time it happened days before Easter Sunday and we lost more than $400 of food that we bought on that one occasion the Easter dinner we thought we were going to be cooking for friends and family. Needless to say, we had to change plans and go to a restaurant for that Easter dinner.
Over the the five different times we've had to have the refrigerator serviced, we've paid close to or more than the cost of the refrigerator with all the food we've lost every time that refrigerator's broke down on us. Knowing we had a lemon on our hands we even had to buy an extended service warranty, which was close to $200. I even posted on YouTube the problems we've had with the Maytag refrigerator and a Maytag representative wrote me and sent me a message for me to call her.
Every time I called her, I'd leave her my phone number and a brief message about the problem, (which she was obviously already aware of due to the YouTube blog) but never got back to me. My wife being in sales told me that's what they do these days because they can supposedly count that towards their quota of calls they are supposed to make for their job. I just put another video blog on YouTube about how we are still having trouble getting any satisfaction regarding Maytag's reluctance to realize that we've got a lemon and provide us with a replacement for the one that's cost us so much money between loss of food as well as time off from work due to someone needing to be here when the repair person came to "fix" the problem, which has never happened so far.
We are not asking for a better or a newer model. Just the same refrigerator but one that doesn't keep breaking down on us. I will be posting another blog on YouTube because it's becoming obvious that Appliance Smart, Warrantech and Maytag do not care about working with their customers in good faith, unlike us when buying the refrigerator. If we'd known that all entities mentioned didn't also practice in good faith, we never would have bought a refrigerator from Maytag but from another refrigerator manufacturer.
I hope that we will finally be met with someone who believes in dealing with clients in good faith instead of "take the money and run" or "promise them anything but when it's obvious that we've sold them a defective product, screw them". I certainly hope that is not the case. We'd thought we were dealing with an honorable company when buying a product that we thought was constructed by a superior company. I certainly hope that this is just an unfortunate but honest mistake on Maytag's part and not a practice. We would hate to have to take further action such as contacting the Better Business Bureau as well as The Attorney Generals Office regarding this matter. We've been more than patient regarding this matter but are now out of patience. Please contact me so we can avoid any further inconvenience on our part as well as yours.

We bought a French-door Maytag refrigerator in December 2004 at Home Depot in Tulsa, OK. When it was delivered, it was defective and they took it back and delivered another one in January 2005. We bought a five-year extended warranty. The icemaker was defective and replaced twice. Then it stopped cooling and freezing. We have had at least three times of this. At first, the tech just used a hair dryer to defrost where it was frozen up in the wall between the icemaker and the water dispenser.
Finally, he did some kind of rigging where he drilled a hole somewhere to keep it from freezing up. I think the warranty was up in January this year. Now, it has frozen up again. I read online where one person said they have to remove everything from their refrigerator and use a hairdryer to defrost the freeze-up about every three months. We can't do that. What can we do? Is there a recall? We paid almost $2,000 for this piece of junk. We are retired and on a fixed income. We thought this would be the last refrigerator we would have to buy. Now, we are using our old one in the garage. We lost a whole freezer full of food again. Thank you.

It has been thoroughly cleaned out several times now, and it still smells slightly of lettuce. What could this be? And, yes, our compressor also went out in 2009 (5 yrs. old). I had the service plan, so it did not cost us anything at all. The plan is very reasonable. Except for a little rust on the freezer drawers, it is a great refrigerator that smells like lettuce!
If you have any ideas as to why, please let me know, and how to fix it. I have not yet called for service, trying to renew the service plan, which I let drop last year. The plan also has worked for the Maytag dishwasher we have. It was repaired (new motor) for nothing as part of the service plan. What could make this refrigerator smell like lettuce for a month? Just a little disarming--the odor, that is. I still love the refrigerator. It has been much admired as to size and sheen!

I bought a Maytag side-by-side refrigerator, Model MSD22651 in 2005 and have had problems beginning in 2007 with the freezer temp rising to 40 degrees for 10 hrs then back down to zero. It repeats this process over and over until finally the freezer no longer keeps the food frozen. I paid over $1400 for this refrigerator and have had nothing but problems. We now know it's the compressor that has gone out and we are looking at around $700 for parts and labor. Although mine seems to exhibit the same behavior of other models listed in the massive recall, the serial number is not on the recall list.
As a result, we have lost food and will need to buy a used refrigerator until I can afford to have this one fixed. I feel like I may be better off spending $700 on a new non-Maytag refrigerator rather than risking future problems with the one I have.

Msd2651HEW refrigerator, I purchased as a group of 6 Maytag appliances from Home Depot, delivered 13 December 2004. In November 30, 2009 the sol/start relay shorted out--replace at a cost to me of $206.25. The Maytag repairman said I was lucky a fire didn't start. He also said that there could be other problems requiring a compressor system replacement.
In February 2010, while I was not at home, the defrost board shorted out and so did the new relay causing the defrost to heat up the inside of the freezer to the point that there was a partial cooking of some of the meat I had. The kitchen was full of smoke and smelled like burning wiring. When I checked the refrigerator, the inside of the freezer, side walls were so hot I could not hold my hand on them for a long time. I unplugged the unit and called the same repairman who came out and found that the entire system was junk.
At first only a parts replacement was authorized, but that was later changed to a parts and labor, 100% whatever it took to fix the unit, this came from their product safety people in Washington State. When the repairman came to fix this pile of junk, he spent 10.5 hours in my home. We had a working unit, only for about a half hour then it stopped working. His idea is that the heat exchange/cap tube needs to be replaced along with the evaporator unit. This cannot be done as Maytag never made these key repair components.
In other words, Maytag built a refrigerator knowing that it was defective. That’s right, the same components that are involved with the other recalls were used in this model, too. As has been suggested by their product safety department, we will prorate and replace their refrigerator." This means an additional cost to me, totally unacceptable, no consideration has been taken for the out of pocket dollars at my end. The cost of prior repair, food lost twice, and the fact that it took almost a month and a half to get to the point that I will have to replace this refrigerator at my expense.
Dollars I have invested as of now is $1500.00 without buying another refrigerator at a cost of about $1500.00 for a total out of pocket of over $3000.00. Unacceptable! As I have informed their product safety person, I intend to post all of my information on every blog on the Internet starting with Facebook, MySpace, SodaHead and MSNBC. I intend to contact the local news stations, CBS and Fox both have a consumer hotline and will amend my complaint to the consumer safety commission and supply them with the components I have and contact a product lawyer for possible lawsuits.
In addition to joining any class action suits I can find, can Maytag-Whirlpool survive any more bad press? We will see! I may even place this junk Maytag refrigerator on my lawn with a 4x8 foot sign stating, “Buy Maytag-Whirlpool at your own risk. You could have your house burn down and family hurt. The only way Maytag can make this go away is to replace free to me this junk. Maytag went out of business due to its laundry products. The service company then came back a week later changed the compressor, computer board and thermo controls. It took an entire day. Guess what? The refrigerator is down again. Now, it's the evaporator coil. Six weeks down and counting.

I purchased my Maytag side by side (Model: MSD2732GR) five years ago and after two other problems, the compressor is bad. My extended warranty company came in, looked at it and said that it was not worth repairing. I am appalled that after only five years, a $1,500 investment is not worth repairing. Luckily, I kept my old refrigerator going in the garage. Please let me know what I can do about this obvious faulty appliance. Thanks.

I bought a Maytag side-by-side about 5 years ago and have had nothing but trouble. It has been serviced at least 5 times and was part of the recall for a potential fire issue. Now the fridge isn't getting cold on the fridge side, yet the freezer part appears to be cold. I'm sick of this refrigerator! Loss of food, time and money.

This is a small but annoying complaint. We purchased a new Maytag fridge 5 1/2 years ago. The interior parts of the upper compartment are plastic. The divider between the fruit/veg drawers has just had to be replaced for the third time. Small part but annoying to have to order the part in pairs to have a replacement at hand on a 5-year old appliance. I had a GE fridge for 42 years. The parts were metal and didn't break in all that time. I should have stuck to GE when we moved. I'm just annoyed at Maytag.

I purchased a new Maytag model PSD263LHEW side by side refrigerator in June of 2004 and purchased the platinum extended warranty from Lowe's. Just past five years, the thing started making a buzzing and clicking noise, quickly followed by warming interior temperatures in the fridge and freezer compartments. I called the extended warranty number and they sent a tech out the next day. He tried a start relay switch and comfirmed the compressor was bad. His company does not do "sealed system service", so I am told another company will be calling me, but nothing yet. A refrigerator should last more than 5 years. It costs over $1000. I will not be purchasing more Maytag appliances.

I posted a complaint with Consumer Affairs, and emailed the head of public relations at Whirlpool expressing my extreme disappointment. I got a call the next business day, and a check for complete reimbursement a week later. I'm impressed. Whirlpool wants to do the right thing, it seems.

From reading the consumer complaints, I can see I am one of several people that have Maytag refrigerators which have very serious problems in cooling and the freezer icing up. When the service man came to replace the recalled part and I asked him about the freezer icing up and the refrigerator not cooling, I was told it was a design flaw in the drain system and there was nothing that could be done about it. So this tells me that Maytag has been aware of the problem and apparently has done nothing to correct the problem in any of the refrigerators they sell. Consumers are being taken advantage of and Maytag should be held accountable. As I am typing this, the temperature in my refrigerator is over 50 degrees. I have had to throw out hundreds of dollars in food and I’m not in a situation where I can purchase another refrigerator.

We own a Maytag side by side refrigerator, model #msd2356aew, serial #10050669wd. In both recalls, we have been told that ours is not included; therefore, we are not entitled to receive any repair. We purchased this refrigerator in 1999. We also had a protection plan in place until 2006. This was purchased when we purchased the refrigerator. Within the first 2 months, I had a problem with the ice-maker. I called the store and was informed that I would need a retro-kit. The refrigerator was not keeping the food cold. In fact, it was warm. The service dept. had us wait for 4 days to install the new retro-kit. All food was spoiled; this after only the 2-month point, but this was only to be the beginning.
Approximately 6 months later, the retro-kit needed to be replaced. Again the refrigerator was not working, warm interior, sides of the doors were hot to the touch. The service man told me of a little trick to make the refrigerator become cool if I should ever have this problem again. The trick, he told me, is to use a hair dryer in the bottom area of the freezer, to loosen-up any ice, and this will create melting (defrosting?). So, it appears that the service man knew full well at that time there was most definitely a problem. We keep towels on the bottom shelf of the freezer to prevent water from running and seeping onto our floor. It is not possible to utilize this bottom area for storing food. We no longer use the ice-maker for fear that it will only create more of a problem.
At this point, we know that it functions poorly. We check every day to see if ice has accumulated on the bottom of the freezer, then we must scrape out the ice and soak up any water and leave towels on the bottom. When I would call Maytag, in regard to these problems, I was told there was nothing they could do. My service protection plan didn't cover this type of problem. Customer service advised me to call Maytag. I realize that it has been 10 years; however, the problem is the same as it was when this appliance was new, and we are unfortunately unable to afford a replacement.

I have conducted an online search for problems with the same model number as the one we have. Many, many, many, many, many complaints came up. Clearly, this is not an isolated issue. How do we as consumers know any of this in the store? Also, don't buy the 30" Gas Range Model # MGR6751BDS. You can't fit two pots, much less place four all at once on top. The back is poorly made which takes up the room for the pots. So, when buying appliances, bring in your pots & pans, 9 x 13, etc. to see if they fit. And don't let the salesman tell you stainless is nice. It's not. It shows all marks and it is definitely hard to clean.

My barely 1-year-old Maytag bottom freezer refrigerator has stopped cooling in the refrigerator section. This has now happened 2 times. The first time was only for a day and the following evening it began cooling again on its own. We attributed it to having lots of company on a hot day and figured the door had just been opened lots of times. This last time it has lost coolness over the last 3 days. Ice has formed both on the front of the door of the freezer as well as on the back wall of the freezer. This time we lost all of our perishable food: 2 1/2 gallons of milk, several packages of meat and lunch meat, vegetables, fruits, etc. Most concerning was that it compromised 4 bottles of very costly insulin.

Maytag immediately tried to distance themselves from the service technician, claiming he was not certified. He has, in fact, been working with them for over 20 years. Maytag then offered me a pro-rate exchange. They would replace my refrigerator with a new model for $516.84. I negotiated the cost down to $316.84 and asked that they throw in a 5-year extended warranty as a sign of good faith. Janet at the customer experience center flatly refused. Maytag’s limited warranty lasts only a year and is not even listed on the Maytag website; customers are asked to call the customer interaction center for details. Each time the warranty company has responded to the claim; however, they have not been able to effectively repair the unit. As of the last complaint on 07/12/2009, the same warranty company stated that the only way a unit can be replaced is if the unit fails 4 times and those 4 times must be within the contract period. We have renewed the contract four times, but the repairs have spanned over three contract periods. Therefore, each time the contract is renewed it resets the count to zero as if no problems have occurred. This is clearly designed so the warranty company has the advantage of motivating the customer to renew the contract without them having to take any real action on a unit that is obviously a lemon.

Maytag refrigerators had a relay recall. My refrigerator fell under the recall but had actually failed before the recall (part melted and smoked). When Sears came out to fix the fridge, the individual service call was going to cost more than purchasing a service agreement, so we paid for our repair by buying the service agreement ($50 cheaper). Maytag will not reimburse for the service agreement, even though we would never have called Sears or purchased a service agreement if our fridge hadn't failed due to their faulty relay.
I'm sure anyone that had their relay fail before the recall, that called for their own repair, would have taken the cheaper of the two choices (pay for individual service or pay for service agreement which will cover the needed repair), and Maytag is using it to their advantage to not have to reimburse their customers. I’m out $250 and my fridge has still not been looked at since the recall to ensure it won't happen again.

We received notification of the recall from Maytag in April 2009. We were scheduled for repair on July 9. We waited all day but received a call from A&E service (It's apparently a company Maytag contracted with. We have heard they are owned by Sears.) at 4:45 saying they would not be able to make it out that day. They came on Friday, July 10 and installed the relay.
On Saturday morning, we discovered the refrigerator wasn't working at all and the floor was covered with water. We called Maytag and spoke first to April, who referred us to A&E, the service company. They said they could not come out on Saturday and referred us back to Maytag. We then reached Anastasia at the escalation line of Maytag and got a huge runaround about sending someone out that day.
After numerous calls, A&E did eventually send the same repairperson out on Saturday, July 11, who admitted to us that they are aware that the relay has caused this same problem with other customers. (It caused the compressor to go out.) A&E had to order a part, which was to be delivered to us on Monday. The part did not arrive, and we were re-scheduled for repair on Tuesday, July 14, which was again re-scheduled on Wednesday, July 15. Both appointments were cancelled by A&E. Finally, one week later, the repair was complete.

This is related to the Maytag recall on the side-by-side refrigerators. The recall part was installed about five weeks ago. After about a week, the fridge began to get too cold and the milk froze. So, my wife turned down the temperature. Within a couple more weeks, the fridge got really warm. So I turned it up to max, but that didn't fix it and some of the food spoiled.
I called Maytag and told them that whatever they did, installing the recall part has messed up something else, because we've never had this problem before. I've read many posts where people could not even get in touch with Maytag. To be fair, I got a representative right away. She scheduled an appointment for the following day but argued with me that the recall part caused the problem.
The popular A&E company rep came to look at the fridge. I told him how things went down and that it was simply too coincidental that this occurred after the recall part was installed. I also showed him six or seven pages of complaints from other people stating the same problem after the recall part was installed. The A&E guy looked at the freezer, which was completely frozen in the back and in the coils. He went on to describe that the part that controls the air flow temperature or something like that probably burned out. But he went on to describe that the recall part was the very same part as the old one but just with a cover on it to keep sparks from shooting out and starting a fire and that it would not have caused the other part to go bad.
I interrupted him at that point and told him that if he's investigating the problem right now, he let me know the moment he thinks he's going to want to charge me any money and to not proceed till he tells me that. He said fair enough, then he went out to his truck for a while. He came back in with a hair dryer and a part. He defrosted the freezer, then he installed the part on the inside of the fridge. He had to remove the panel that has the temperature controls on it and got in there to replace the part.
When he was done, he sort of lectured me that A&E is not out to screw anyone over and that they are a responsible company, etc. He then handed me a receipt, and I said, "Is this a bill?" because I saw $278 on it. He got kind of upset and said no! Well, how would I know that when I see $278 on a printout. Anyway, obviously, things went ok for me versus other stories I've read about this problem. I think what's happening is that A&E is getting the same bad rep as Maytag now. And well, they should because they know what is going on just as much as Maytag does. I'd make an educated guess that they know the recall part is blowing out that other board, but their payoff from Maytag might not be such a good thing since their reputation is going down the tubes.
I'm writing this to help other folks, who are getting burned in this situation. I was all prepared to buy a new fridge and put the Maytag in the garage till the class-action lawsuit, which I'm guessing is soon to come, will finally get me my money back. There was no way I was going to pay to have the A&E guy fix the unit. I have that luxury though, because we have another fridge to survive on. But, I think the combo of the printouts of other people on this site and other sites, my body language to the rep, and possibly Maytag/A&E coming to the reality that they're going to get pummeled if they don't do the right thing got me the fridge fixed at no charge. Thanks everyone else for giving me the ammo I needed. I hope this note helps, too.

My wife made the first call to Kevin and I made a second call to him today and spoke with him and his supervisor, both giving us the same standard answer. I bought this French-door refrigerator on January 7, 2008. I contacted Maytag in June 2009 to see if they could help with the expense of repair. They gave me the name of their repair service. A serviceman came out to do repair and found out that he needed a repair board to make the repair. After he left, we found out that nothing worked anymore. We had to remove all items from the refrigerator. We lost several items and we had to wait a week for repair. Maytag finally said they would pay for parts but not for labor. This was an expensive repair and it was only 16 months old.

A&E Factory Service came to replace the recalled relay switch in our fridge. The technician then said that the condenser fan was not working and needed to be replaced. I had never had any problems with the fridge and demanded that the work be done at no charge. A&E refused, but Maytag said they would authorize the repair at no charge. When a second technician from A&E came 4 days later, he said the electrical connection was good but the fan motor was burned out. Maytag then denied saying they would authorize the work and I told the technician to leave. When my husband went to remove the fan with the intention of replacing it himself, he saw that one of the electrical terminals was bent/unconnected. When connected properly, the fan worked fine. Either A&E has incompetent technicians or they are intentionally sabotaging appliances to obtain more work. Why does Maytag continue to hire this company when there have been so many similar complaints?

Maytag French Door SS: It is 2 1/2 years old. I have called for service on the ice maker at least 3 times and mickey moused it the other times to get it to make ice cubes. I had the guy out today, and well, it needs a new ice maker already. You spend $2500 on it, and it breaks after 2 plus years. Come on, Maytag, do a recall and fix the problem so it doesn't break. It's probably the motor mechanism. Help all of us!

We have a side by side Maytag 2003. There is no build up on defroster but water comes into freezer from defroster area onto freezer floor. It builds up and also leaks out and onto our floor. Now, our floor has buckled on both side of refrigerator and freezer. It seemed to start after repairman fixed recall item a month ago. We had defective defrost controller replaced in 8/08.

My refrigerator was on the recall list for possible fire hazard. Repairman came out to replace a part which took 10 minutes. After he left, our freezer stopped working and now the refrigerator side has stopped working. Complete loss of food. Being Sunday, I did get an answer at Maytag and A&E but nothing can be scheduled until Monday. I am a mother and this is an extremely difficult situation to manage with two small children. I am mad and moved to file a complaint and investigate starting or participating in a class action. I know others have stated the same. We are all being taken advantage of. This is not the first time I have complained about Maytag and their supposed service. I filed an e-complaint directly to them two years back for their handling of my ice machine repair.

I had a leak at the water line connection, the tray and tray holder under the water/ice dispenser. Maytag should stick with washers/dryers as they make a lousy refrigerator. I should have bought a Kenmore! The water leak left marks on the kitchen carpet that cannot be removed. I'm unable to completely remove stains from the tray. Also, the tray holder is rusty!

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator, model # MTB2156GEW, five years ago. Within two years, motor in freezer burnt out and had to be replaced. I called Maytag and they replaced motor. It cost over $250 in parts and labor. I watched him repair, remove cover, remove two screws, remove clamp and plug new motor in. Well, this part burnt out again, not even three years and it's bad. I called seven places to get this part. It is on backorder until July 15, 2009 with no guarantee that they will have it then. I spoke with Maytag and found out about faulty relay switch. They sent a tech out from A&E. I waited all day from 8 am to 5 pm. He came at almost 5, supposed to replace part, left me no paperwork or proof that this part was replaced.
We had to drive 40 minutes to a parts store to get another motor for freezer so it would work, not the identical part but what was recommended to us for substitution. I paid tons of money for this fridge, a ton of money in parts, labor and more parts, not to mention all the food we lost and threw out. This fridge was bought the same time as a washer. The Maytag washer was history after four years. First, water pump went and then transmission. It cost more to fix than what it was worth. I now own a GE washer. I will tell everyone what problems I had and consider myself fortunate the relay on fridge didn't burn my house down.

It was repaired once and the repairman promised it was a “fluke”. Fridge goes back to Appliance Store tomorrow! It damaged the wood floor and ceiling in the lower level.
