I bought a Maytag bottom freezer refrigerator (Model MBF1956KEB) and the refrigerator section stopped cooling after 3 days of being delivered. The freezer's back panel forms a block of ice. I tried defrosting it manually but it does not work. I called the store where I bought it and they are trying to get it fixed ASAP, but are still waiting for the part to arrive. It has been a week.

I bought a refrigerator last December 2004. In August 2007, I had to put a new compressor - August 2009 came, and another new compressor. I have called and asked at the very least for a 4-year warranty. The response was that would give me a 10% discount on a new refrigerator. I feel that this refrigerator is a lemon. I paid $1,900 not even 5 years ago. I have had to pay for the repairman's service calls plus the cost of the food I have lost. I have been without a refrigerator for weeks at a time. I am not sure what to do from here. My fear is in another 2 years, it will go out again and the cost is $700-$900 for repair. At this point, Maytag has covered the cost of repair but only until the 5-year mark. What do I do?

We have a Maytag Plus side by side refrigerator/freezer. From early after delivery, we had to replace the ice-makers. Then, the door push pad switch went out and a service man replaced it. Shortly after this, there was a leak in door which, after a while, it started showing rust over the edge of the plastic cover. Now, we have a top of the line unit that looks like **. All because either the service man messed up, or because of a defective water connection in the door (because it leak water or moisture, causing issues with the door switch control). The repair people play this game with homeowners and factory so that homeowners get the shaft! Well, we are remolding the entire kitchen over the next several months, so guess what brand of five new appliances we're looking at?

Less than three years ago, we furnished our new home with what we thought were good quality Maytag appliances, refrigerator, washer and dryer. Currently our S/S fridge/freezer, Model #mzd2663keq, Serial # ** sticks in defrost mode. I have a temp. probe in the freezer. When it sticks & heats, you can watch the temp. go from -2 to 40 F, if the plug is not pulled. The defrost board was diagnosed by a repairman. Four boards later, it still sticks & heats. Using any of these boards, at different times - no pattern, produces a fully functional fridge, for a while. Then something else happens and causes it to stick & heat. This has been going on for months. It works, then it does not! We no longer keep anything too valuable in the freezer section. We rely on the old freezer in the garage.

I purchased a $1700 Maytag side-by-side fridge and have had nothing but problems with it -The ice maker constantly jams (It has been replaced.), the water holding tank has been converted to a tube system, the drawers don't keep the correct temperature, and after the 2009 safety relay recall, the fridge stopped working. As it is no longer under warranty, I was forced to pay a $276 bill to have it fixed. The A&E service rep told me the part cost $88, but the labor was almost $200. It took him literally 10 minutes to replace this part. When I asked how much they charged per hour, he told me they don't charge by the hour but by the job code. It sounds like bologna to me.
I am extremely disappointed and have had no problem with my 20-year-old Whirlpool fridge in the basement. I will never purchase a Maytag product again and will tell everyone I know of my experiences with my Maytag appliances. I also have a stove and washer and drying system and have had problems with these items as well.

Maytag refrigerators had a relay recall. My refrigerator fell under the recall but had actually failed before the recall (part melted and smoked). When Sears came out to fix the fridge, the individual service call was going to cost more than purchasing a service agreement, so we paid for our repair by buying the service agreement ($50 cheaper). Maytag will not reimburse for the service agreement, even though we would never have called Sears or purchased a service agreement if our fridge hadn't failed due to their faulty relay.
I'm sure anyone that had their relay fail before the recall, that called for their own repair, would have taken the cheaper of the two choices (pay for individual service or pay for service agreement which will cover the needed repair), and Maytag is using it to their advantage to not have to reimburse their customers. I’m out $250 and my fridge has still not been looked at since the recall to ensure it won't happen again.

The refrigerator is not cold and the freezer is icing over. This has happened a few times now. Luckily, we still have insurance on it. We bought this from Sears in 8/2002. It used to be a year between repairs. Now it happens every 6 months that something goes wrong. I go into the internet about Maytag today and found out it is still happening today with the new Maytags. How come you people haven't stepped up and notified the public of this? Not in your magazine, but on TV where it would get to all the people and stop the public from buying this piece of junk product. It tells me that you guys are no help at all and are part of the problem.

I am very disappointed in my Maytag french door refrigerator which I purchased in April 2006! I thought I was purchasing a very good product. Wrong. I spent over $2000 for an inferior product. First, the computer board went out in first year and a half. Warranty barely covered it with a lot of runaround. It took me hours on the phone complaining. Finally, Maytag agreed to pay. This year, July 2009, the icemaker went out. I called Maytag and no recall from what service rep said. I can't believe that something that expensive has problems so early in its life. My grandparents believed in Maytag; unfortunately, things have changed so do not buy this product.

We received notification of the recall from Maytag in April 2009. We were scheduled for repair on July 9. We waited all day but received a call from A&E service (It's apparently a company Maytag contracted with. We have heard they are owned by Sears.) at 4:45 saying they would not be able to make it out that day. They came on Friday, July 10 and installed the relay.
On Saturday morning, we discovered the refrigerator wasn't working at all and the floor was covered with water. We called Maytag and spoke first to April, who referred us to A&E, the service company. They said they could not come out on Saturday and referred us back to Maytag. We then reached Anastasia at the escalation line of Maytag and got a huge runaround about sending someone out that day.
After numerous calls, A&E did eventually send the same repairperson out on Saturday, July 11, who admitted to us that they are aware that the relay has caused this same problem with other customers. (It caused the compressor to go out.) A&E had to order a part, which was to be delivered to us on Monday. The part did not arrive, and we were re-scheduled for repair on Tuesday, July 14, which was again re-scheduled on Wednesday, July 15. Both appointments were cancelled by A&E. Finally, one week later, the repair was complete.

My fridge suffered a short circuit, blew up the compressor, and scorched the wall behind the fridge. The costs of repair were too high to merit doing it. So we threw the fridge out. We then learned of the recall. Maytag is not offering to compensate for anything other than the 78$ diagnosis. They refuse to discuss this further. They admit the fridge was faulty, but since I don't have the fridge, they won't do anything about it. If a class action suit gets going, I would vote yes.

This is related to the Maytag recall on the side-by-side refrigerators. The recall part was installed about five weeks ago. After about a week, the fridge began to get too cold and the milk froze. So, my wife turned down the temperature. Within a couple more weeks, the fridge got really warm. So I turned it up to max, but that didn't fix it and some of the food spoiled.
I called Maytag and told them that whatever they did, installing the recall part has messed up something else, because we've never had this problem before. I've read many posts where people could not even get in touch with Maytag. To be fair, I got a representative right away. She scheduled an appointment for the following day but argued with me that the recall part caused the problem.
The popular A&E company rep came to look at the fridge. I told him how things went down and that it was simply too coincidental that this occurred after the recall part was installed. I also showed him six or seven pages of complaints from other people stating the same problem after the recall part was installed. The A&E guy looked at the freezer, which was completely frozen in the back and in the coils. He went on to describe that the part that controls the air flow temperature or something like that probably burned out. But he went on to describe that the recall part was the very same part as the old one but just with a cover on it to keep sparks from shooting out and starting a fire and that it would not have caused the other part to go bad.
I interrupted him at that point and told him that if he's investigating the problem right now, he let me know the moment he thinks he's going to want to charge me any money and to not proceed till he tells me that. He said fair enough, then he went out to his truck for a while. He came back in with a hair dryer and a part. He defrosted the freezer, then he installed the part on the inside of the fridge. He had to remove the panel that has the temperature controls on it and got in there to replace the part.
When he was done, he sort of lectured me that A&E is not out to screw anyone over and that they are a responsible company, etc. He then handed me a receipt, and I said, "Is this a bill?" because I saw $278 on it. He got kind of upset and said no! Well, how would I know that when I see $278 on a printout. Anyway, obviously, things went ok for me versus other stories I've read about this problem. I think what's happening is that A&E is getting the same bad rep as Maytag now. And well, they should because they know what is going on just as much as Maytag does. I'd make an educated guess that they know the recall part is blowing out that other board, but their payoff from Maytag might not be such a good thing since their reputation is going down the tubes.
I'm writing this to help other folks, who are getting burned in this situation. I was all prepared to buy a new fridge and put the Maytag in the garage till the class-action lawsuit, which I'm guessing is soon to come, will finally get me my money back. There was no way I was going to pay to have the A&E guy fix the unit. I have that luxury though, because we have another fridge to survive on. But, I think the combo of the printouts of other people on this site and other sites, my body language to the rep, and possibly Maytag/A&E coming to the reality that they're going to get pummeled if they don't do the right thing got me the fridge fixed at no charge. Thanks everyone else for giving me the ammo I needed. I hope this note helps, too.

We had our Maytag refrigerator's side-by-side relay switch replaced on 7/8/09 because of a Maytag factory recall notice. The very next refrigerator was broken. We purchased our refrigerator in 2002 and have not had any problems with it until they replaced the relay switch.

We purchased a Maytag refrigerator in March 2005. About 1 year later, the ice/water dispenser stopped working and we noticed a burnt smell. And the release bar for the ice dispenser was melted. I called Fry's, and they refused to help, citing I didn't bought the in-store warranty. I called Maytag. They stated that they have a documented warranty for me and asked if I registered the product. They said they could send a repairman but with fees.
Soon, the refrigerator started barely cooling and puddles started to appear on my wooden floors. The freezer started developing ice in the back of it, not cooling along with the fridge side. It would defrost and start cooling again. We learned of the recall and called Maytag. Our refrigerator has every one of the symptoms; however, they said our serial did not start with the proper letter. We have lost hundreds of dollars of food repeatedly. I have requested numerous calls from Maytag management, and we have not heard a word from them.

Our refrigerator compressor, and possibly the relay, stopped working, so we had a repairman come look at it. He said that he had replaced two relays in the fridge but that it looked like the compressor was shot. So we called Maytag, and the person we spoke with said that it was out of warranty and that they could not help. So 4 days went by and we're trying not to spend $4700.00 in repairs. But we had to go to Lowe's and purchase a new Whirlpool fridge ($1190.00). The day after we bought the new fridge, we got a letter from Maytag which indicated that Amana have been having problems with a certain model number and serial number and that they give the listings. Ours match the recall serial number and model number, but when we called back, Kevin told us that even though the model and serial number matched, it is "not" one of the ones on the recall (after we mentioned the fridge was broken).
My wife made the first call to Kevin and I made a second call to him today and spoke with him and his supervisor, both giving us the same standard answer. It is quite a coincidence that our fridge breaks and it has the matching numbers but not one of the ones on their list. Our model number is (ARS)E66ZBW with the code given in the parentheses, and our serial number is 10287373(AX) with the code given in the parentheses. Our manufacturing number is PARSE66ZBW0.

I have a $300 refrigerator in my garage that has performed infinitely better than this $1,700 one. The consequences were; lost food, repairs that didn't fix the problem and a refrigerator that doesn't work.

Simple Maytag refrigerator, MTB1956 GEQ. 7.3 years later the freezer fan dies; 4" Panasonic fan-motor combo. $155.38 parts, $178 labor. Purchase warranty for $81, A&E truck. 11 months later, it dies. Replace under warranty motor start relay and motor capacitor. Relay made in Brazil. Service van is not A&E, but an unmarked truck with no yellow pages listing. No receipt offered.
On 6/29/09 it dies. Trips circuit breaker. A&E van arrives, replaces toasted compressor, announces capacitor previously done under item #2, was a "hard start" unit, and subject to failure. He also informs that the t-stat is toast, needed to order, 8 day delivery and repair appointment. 1-800 phone calls all end up with accented English phone jocks of very little help. Beware of 3rd party subcontractor repair types, and if you don't have a service agreement, you're screwed. Maytag reefers suffer from low-grade offshore parts, and Sears’ service can be iffy depending on who shows up. I will never use Maytag again in my lifetime.

A serviceman came out to do repair and found out that he needed a repair board to make the repair. After he left, we found out that nothing worked anymore. A&E Factory Service came to replace the recalled relay switch in our fridge. The technician then said that the condenser fan was not working and needed to be replaced. I had never had any problems with the fridge and demanded that the work be done at no charge. A&E refused, but Maytag said they would authorize the repair at no charge. When a second technician from A&E came 4 days later, he said the electrical connection was good but the fan motor was burned out. Maytag then denied saying they would authorize the work and I told the technician to leave. When my husband went to remove the fan with the intention of replacing it himself, he saw that one of the electrical terminals was bent/unconnected. When connected properly, the fan worked fine. Either A&E has incompetent technicians or they are intentionally sabotaging appliances to obtain more work. Why does Maytag continue to hire this company when there have been so many similar complaints?

I called seven places to get this part. It is on backorder until July 15, 2009 with no guarantee that they will have it then. I spoke with Maytag and found out about faulty relay switch. They sent a tech out from A&E. I waited all day from 8 am to 5 pm. He came at almost 5, supposed to replace part, left me no paperwork or proof that this part was replaced.
We had to drive 40 minutes to a parts store to get another motor for freezer so it would work, not the identical part but what was recommended to us for substitution. I paid tons of money for this fridge, a ton of money in parts, labor and more parts, not to mention all the food we lost and threw out. This fridge was bought the same time as a washer. The Maytag washer was history after four years. First, water pump went and then transmission. It cost more to fix than what it was worth. I now own a GE washer. I will tell everyone what problems I had and consider myself fortunate the relay on fridge didn't burn my house down.

I had a fridge delivered on June 5th that I ordered from an actual Maytag store and not a reseller like Best Buy. I paid $1000 for the side by side and purchased a three-year warranty. The guys came to deliver it the next week and I thought it was strange that the same guy who sold it to me also delivered it but no biggie. They came in and took out my old one (the compressor went out). Then I got called outside to take a look at the fridge. As soon as I walked outside, you could see a golf ball sized dent in the side of it. I did not purchase a scratch and dent fridge. John, the seller and delivery guy, said that I could either take it with a discount or they could order me a new one and have it delivered the next week. I told him that I didn't purchase a dented fridge but I couldn't wait for a new one as I didn't have a second fridge in my house and I have a family. I told him to bring it in and I would discuss it with him when my husband got home. I asked him what the discount would be and he told me well since it's not the highest end model, Maytag will probably only give me $50. I said who cares how much I spent or what model it was, I didn't order a dented fridge.
So the guys left and my husband called and they did only offer us $50 or a new one. I just got back from maternity leave and I have no vacation left to take off to wait for a new one. My husband has vacation but not much. I called the Maytag customer service line and explained to them what the problem was and that they were putting me in a position to where I had to accept the $50 (not enough money for the dent) or get a new one and waste a vacation day. She told me that she could offer me a six-month extension on my warranty but that's useless as the warranty doesn't cover the dent. I told her no, I didn't want the extension, I didn't want the $50 and I would take a vacation day. I wanted more money off the cost of the fridge. She said that I was given three options and those were the only three options that she was going to offer me and she kept repeating herself.
I told her that I would never purchase anything from them again and that I would do everything I could to keep people I know from buying from them and all she could say was, "I'm sorry to hear that." She didn't seem to care. Go figure. I wasn't expecting a free refrigerator. I just expected more than $50 back as I know for a fact that they would sell it for less than $1000 on the floor as a scratch and dent because I almost bought one for $300 less than what I paid for. After the delivery guys left, my neighbor who watches everyone came over and said that she saw them dent the fridge in the truck and they were freaking out because they didn't know if I was going to keep it or not. She said that they swung the door open on another fridge and it hit the side of mine. I told the customer service rep this and she ignored me and didn't even address that problem. I will never purchase anything from them again and I hope that none of you will as well. Their customer service line is horrible and very unhelpful. They don't care about the consumer!

Our Maytag Elite refrigerator (model 106.52209100) manufactured by Whirlpool very nearly to what I can see caught fire this morning. The relay is melted and fried and has apparently burned out the compressor (relay part # 4SP1101). There is a recall on Whirlpool/Maytag/Kenmore refrigerators which was caused by the failure of the relay (appears to be a different part number but with the same issues of catching fire).
After going from department to department, the Sears consumer affairs division put me on an emergency service call list and they're scheduled to come in two days. I have contacted Whirlpool and was told they can do nothing for me despite being the manufacturer. They refused to provide information relating to the relay whether there have been other reports of this occurring with this relay. Quite obviously to me, if this issue is occurring with relays, there should be a recall on my model but it is not included in the recall. I'd like to have others who have had this issue provide me with details so I can pursue it and hopefully extend the recall to this model.

Maytag Refrigerator Recall Notice: Maytag is being disingenuous regarding its commitment to repair and rectify this fire hazard. My refrigerator (which is on the recall fire hazard list) is recessed in cabinetry. When a repairman arrived, he refused to pull it out unless I signed a waiver absolving him of any damage caused by him to get to the rear of the refrigerator. When I refused to sign the document, he left without making the repair. In a telephone conversation, he later stated that it was a two-man job and Maytag would only pay for one man. When this information was brought to the attention of Diana, a supervisor in the "escalation department" of Maytag, she insisted that the form be signed, or as an alternative, that I accept the sum of $75 in full satisfaction of Maytag’s recall/repair obligation. It also made no difference to Maytag that I and my husband are senior citizens and are unable to personally remove the refrigerator so it can be repaired. This does not seem to be a good faith attempt by Maytag to fulfill its recall obligation.

A month ago, my Maytag refrigerator started smelling like it was burning, making noises, and finally stopped working. I lost everything in the fridge and the freezer, which was such a waste, since I am receiving food stamps. I bought this piece of junk in Portsmouth NH on Christmas Eve in 2003. I was desperate, because it was Christmas, and needed the appliance immediately. I got nowhere with State Street Discount or Maytag, so I called 3 different times to report this issue to the US Consumer Product Safety at the above phone number. I was told this fridge was not in the recall. My numbers match on the recall notice (model number "MT"B22156GE*).
There are 2 model numbers in the fridge. One is on the inside left, and the other one is inside the freezer. The only difference in both numbers is that the one in the fridge has a W at the end of it. This is definitely a recall, because the beginning letters match the recall notice. I have been without a fridge now, since all this started a month ago. I just don't have the money for repairs, or a new fridge. I will badmouth the Maytag Company until the day I die, and will spread it to all my friends in the internet, hoping they will spread it to all their friends!
In the meantime, I am not eating properly, because I have nowhere to put my perishable foods, and I am an elderly with all kinds of health problems. I didn't know, until this happened, that I had so many tears left in this old body! I am physically sick over this, and I am still without a fridge. I lost money, food, and health (I did get very ill one day when it all started, because I ate a sandwich which had meat that had gone bad, because the fridge was too warm). Now, I will end up going to court over this. In fact, I am going over there this coming Monday.

My refrigerator went out back in February, around the 20th. The compressor went out. I talked to Maytag and since the refrigerator is only 2.7 years old, they would give me 50% off the parts, so I said okay. I hired the repair company locally and they charged me $306.00 to install the parts and install the new freon. The refrigerator still did not work. The technician I hired then called Maytag himself and told that the compressor did not take and additional parts are going to be needed to take care of the problems. Maytag agreed to send us the parts free of charge.
I have received the parts, but I am still waiting for the evaporator which has been back ordered since February. We are now into June, I still do not have a working refrigerator. I feel I am been jerked around. I have told Maytag what is the problem, their response is that I do not have a warranty on the refrigerator. I told that is crap, I have two other refrigerators I have had for over 6 years and never had a problem with them. This refrigerator is the Ice2O model. I paid good money for it and it does not work. This is not the first time I have had a problem with this refrigerator. It went out after one year and a day and I had to fight with them to fix it again. They told me the warranty was up. I fought with them and they fixed it two weeks later under warranty. Now, with this problem, I have been without a refrigerator since February and I feel a replacement is in order or a refund of the purchase price, so I can go out and buy a new one but a different brand!
Luckily, I have two other refrigerators in my garage so the family and I have been using those in the garage, but it is a big hassle to cook in the kitchen then have to walk back and forth to the garage to get the items we need to cook with.

We purchased a Maytag Plus refrigerator because of the fine Maytag reputation and to match the other appliances in the kitchen. I guess, compared to the long list of upset customers, we are somewhat lucky. We have not experienced any technical difficulties until the door that holds the ice maker started peeling and looking rusted. We called Sears, and Sears told us to contact Maytag, and Maytag said nothing. It was our problem and we had to fix it. A year later, we have a large rusted area close to the handle. It looks so pretty! This week, we received in the mail a letter from Maytag advising of a recall due to potential fire hazard. My husband called the number on the letter and they sent a tech today to replace the faulty part. He also gave us a $468 repair estimate to change the door. My Maytag washer (of 2 years) stopped working in October and it was cheaper to buy a new washer ... Go Maytag! And, I really mean, go, and take your crappy products with you.

Our Maytag refrigerator went out on February 5, 2009 during the night. I called 3 different Whirlpool service companies on the 6th. They told me it would be a week before any of them could come out to repair the unit. Being a diabetic with insulin to store plus all the food was now at room temperature, I called a local service provider who could come out that evening. He replaced the part that is on the recall for starting fires, a relay.
I called Maytag, and after much correspondence, I was told that they would send me a courtesy check for $100.00 against the $178.00 I paid to get the repair done. Not counting the insulin or food, I agreed since they offered something. Now, April 18, they tell me that the part was not one of theirs so they now won't send the check. I am taking them to small claims court for the $378.00 I am out. This is customer service! I just replaced our washer and dryer with Bosch products, never Whirlpool again!

I bought a Maytag fridge in 2000 and have had to fix it no less than five times since I got it. It stops cooling and my food spoils. I've paid more to fix it than it was worth - $1,100.00. I was told by a Sears repairman that the fridge is a lemon and it freezes up. The model I have has to be fixed repeatedly. It was the top of the line when I bought it - model #MSD2456DE Maytag Plus. The water on the front door won't stop pouring either. It is crazy! It makes me crazy! I have asked Sears over the years, different managers, to reimburse me or give me the Maytag dealership number to call. I was told recently when I called again that I could buy a new one and they could discount it down to $1,300.00. Well, just great since I only paid $1,100.00. So why would I buy another product from them if they won't make good on this one?

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator model #MFI2568AEW in August of 2007 and it just started experiencing problems; specifically the control panel lights flashing and the flapper valve for the ice dispenser is cycling open and closed causing a popping noise. I called Maytag customer assistance this morning. They did not know what would cause this problem and suggested I get a Maytag certified technical service representative to look at the refrigerator (at my cost). I then did some research on the internet and found numerous other owners of this refrigerator that had the same problem (in 2007 and 2008).
Coincidentally, most experienced this problem just after the warranty period expired. According to the internet posts, the problem is caused by two capacitors on the control panel that overheat and fail. Someone with a little electronic repair skills can purchase replacement capacitors at a local radio shop and perform the repair with minimal cost for parts (about $20.00) or purchase a new panel board and replace the entire board (cost about $200). After reading these internet posts, I again called the Maytag customer service department and asked if Maytag could send me a replacement control board at no cost, since there were so many people that have experienced this issue. I was told that I would have to pay for the part since there were no current recalls, etc. for the model of refrigerator that I owned.
It seems to me that this is a design flaw that should be corrected by Maytag. Hopefully, your organization can look into this problem and try to get Maytag to acknowledge they have a problem and provide owners with a re-engineered part that will correct this issue. Thank you for your consideration.

I too purchased a Maytag refrigerator because of their reliability. I, too, was burned! My refrigerator has had so many repairs. It has cost me 6 times what I paid for it. The compressor constantly keeps going out. Every time, I have had to throw out all the food in the fridge/freezer costing me hundreds of dollars. Maytag does not care and has no customer service. They don't even have Maytag repairmen. They just contract with whomever is in the area. Even if the part were covered (which they always found some excuse why it wasn't), I was still responsible for the labor. Do not buy Maytag. It is the worst as far as reliability. If you get one year out of your appliance, good luck to you.

If you have a Maytag appliance and it stopped working, don't bother getting it fixed. Throw it out the door. If you don't have one, then you are one of the lucky ones. I have a Maytag Plus refrigerator, model# MSD2556AE. Last month, the refrigerator stopped working. I contacted Sears and made appointment for a technician to come out and fix the fridge. A technician came out, investigated, found what he said the problem and got the fridge running. After paying a fee of a $186, the tech went about his business. Couple hours after the technician left, the fridge stopped working again. Hah, I was furious. Like most people nowadays, barely have money to buy groceries, now I am an extra ~ $200 deeper in a hole.
I contacted Sears again, explained the situation and scheduled another appointment. Another technician came to my house (first thing in the morning), investigated and told me such and such was not re-installed properly. After taking out the assembly out (located on the upper right hand side) and re-assembled, the fridge was humming again like it was working so the tech left. Around evening, the wife and I feeling happy, went out grocery shopping (didn't even bother checking the fridge). Couple hours later, after spending close to $200 on groceries, we came back home. I opened the fridge door and lo and behold, the stuffiness smacked me right in my face. The fridge had stopped working again. I contacted Sears again and this time a senior tech was scheduled to come look at the fridge. Upon the tech arrival, I asked him couple questions and based on his answers, I went out and purchased a new fridge from Sears Scratch and Dent. I am waiting for a refund from Sears.
Couple years ago, when I got home from work. I went down to the basement and found my carpet was soaked and the basement stuffy. After further investigation, I found that the water was coming from the fridge. I had to re-carpet the basement due to stuffiness. The fridge had been leaking for quite sometime and I didn't realize it. I called a Maytag repairman to come look at the fridge. His investigation revealed a bad sensor of some sort. I believed I paid him about $400 to come fix the fridge. This fridge had put me thousand of dollars in a hole. As I am typing this message, I am looking at the fridge ready to take a sledge hammer through it. It's amazing how a company can screw up consumers and there is really nothing consumers can do about it. Maytag has no ethics.

I purchased this refrigerator from Maytag on September 5, 2005. This is now April 8, 2009. I have just had to spend $378.25 to replace the third ice maker in this refrigerator. The initial one went out approximately one month after its warranty expired so I had to pay for another new one at that time, and now this second one I paid for has failed completely. I seriously feel that Maytag is misrepresenting itself as a reliable appliance manufacturer. I bought the Maytag because of their former reputation. I also have a Maytag washer and dryer, but I certainly will never purchase another Maytag appliance. My last refrigerator/freezer lasted almost 25 years - it was not a Maytag. I am deeply dissatisfied with Maytag's customer care and I feel that some adjustment should be made for the exorbitant costs on the repair of such an expensive appliance - it is a French door, bottom freezer model - one of the most expensive models available at the time of purchase.

I came home from work to find water on the floor and a burning smell in the air. I opened my freezer part of the refrigerator and found it was not working. I cleaned it out and called the next day for a repairman to look at it. He could, on Sat. and fixed it. It was the relay switch that was bad. I paid him and then went to Walmart to replace everything in my refrigerator and freezer which was not cheap. Later, I found out from a relative that he had one of the recalls and Maytag fixed it.
He did not know how to contact anyone so I said, "Oh well." But then a friend of mine who takes Consumer Digest saw the recall notice and I went to the site listed, Repair.maytag.com and entered the model and serial number which said that my refrigerator was part of those recalled. I then today, 4/6/09, called 1-866-533-9817 to see about getting the repair bill taken care of and was given 1-800-344-1274 to call. I called that and was given 1-866-317-9017 to call. I called that and was given 1-866-949-0676 to call. At this number, I was told the repairman I used was not Maytag authorized person so I could not get refunded. I don't think this is fair because I did not know about recall until after the fact.
This is not my first bad experience with Maytag. The other involved a Neptune Washer and dryer, but that is another story. What upsets me the most is Maytag is supposed to be the most dependable according to my grandparents and other relatives and I assumed that I could not go wrong with purchasing them. All I want is the money I paid for repair.

Maytag has a massive recall on their refrigerators and mine has done exactly what the recall is about. It has almost started a fire two different times after being repaired. The front ice/water dispenser has completely melted twice and caused minimum smoke damage in my kitchen. It melted the front panel beyond use. When it faulted on three different occasions, ice and/or water would start dispensing and then smoke would roll out of the panel. If I hadn't been there the last time, it probably would have burned my house down. I plan to take legal action since Maytag won't claim responsibility. My model# is MSD2356AEW. They say it is not on the recall list, but if it is not, it definitely should be. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

A few months after the 1 yr. warranty expired, I had to have the hinges replaced on both doors as they weren't closing tight (cost approx. $200). Two years later, I had to have the hinges replaced AGAIN. Last month the cap on the door ice dispenser broke (have to manually close it). This past Mon., 12-29-08, I called the repairman to come fix it--we made an appointment for tomorrow (1-2-09). Today, New Year's Day, I woke to find the fridge luke warm and the freezer barely cold!! Since it's New Year's Day, I know I can't get the repairman out today (fortunately, I have the appointment I made on Monday for tomorrow). In the meantime, all the food I purchased yesterday for the long holiday weekend is rotting.
I'm a single-person household, have few visitors, and NO kids in my house. Depending on what the repairman says tomorrow, I'm facing the possibility of buying a new refrigerator--whichever, it's going to cost me more money. I am totally DISGUSTED with Maytag and will NEVER by another Maytag appliance.

I bought a new Maytag Plus bottom freezer refrigerator (MBB2254GEW) from Home Depot in June 2004 after diligently researching the best product. I bought the Consumer Best Buy recommended by Consumer Reports. I had multiple instances of frozen produce, but kept turning the temperature down in the produce drawer. Just before Thanksgiving 2007 I noticed a sheet of ice covering the bottom of the freezer. I called a repairman and spent $300 to have the evaporator fan replaced.
2 weeks later the entire unit went out with no cooling and loud noises. The same repairman returned and said the compressor had gone out. He said that I should call the Maytag warranty service - A&E Factory Service. I had 15 people coming to my home for 4 days for Christmas. Fortunately I have a 25 y/o Kenmore in the garage and the weather was quite cold so were able to put food outside.
Finally the A&E Factory Service man came after Christmas and confirmed that the compressor was out and needed to be replaced. He said the part would be ordered and delivered by UPS to my home. It was Jan. 2008 before the compressor was replaced. For the last 6 weeks I have again had water dripping out of the unit onto my wood floor. My 6 year old refrigerator (Maytag Plus model mtf2156gew) caught fire. The description -- acrid black smoke billowing from the bottom of the fridge -- frighteningly matches many other descriptions on this site. 5 minutes later, the fridge was spewing the smoke. Whirlpool sent a repairman (on their dime) the next day. He said he'd never seen anything like it. The little box that the wires plug into had melted to ash. There was no property damage, aside from a non-working refrigerator, a stinky smell, and several hundred dollars in lost food, thanks to my husband's quick response.
I'm scared to death of what could have happened had we not been home. Whirlpool is replacing the wires, the compressor, the white box thing, and the motor, and paying for 5 hours of the tech's time to do the work. Crazy expensive for an $850 fridge. When I asked why not just a new fridge so I could sleep peacefully and leave my home knowing the fridge wasn't going to burn down the house, the response was, "Well, ma'am, we're willing to fix this model. If you want a new one, you'll have to pay for half ($426.50)." I asked for assurances that this would not happen again. She merely stated that they could only guarantee the workmanship of the service tech.
I'm keeping all old parts, just in case.

We purchased 3 new Maytag appliances from Home Depot in March 2007. Within months the bottom-freezer refrigerator began freezing food in the crisper and other areas of the frig. After several weeks of throwing out frozen food, I noticed a banging sound that continued until ending with a loud pop which continually went on day and night, loud enough to wake us up. I called the company and they said they would contact our local Maytag repairman and he would be in touch within 24 hours. It took several more calls and a wait of several more weeks before a repair technician came out, and made a small change in the frig, and for a while things seemed to be alright. Soon though the food began freezing again, and the noise started up. So did my phone calls, and promises to send out a repairman. By this time about 8 months elapsed since the purchase and I was anxious to have this resolved before the year was up.
By now the Magtag repair service washed their hands of it I guess, because when I called the Maytag company in early 2008, they said they'd be contacting a different appliance repairman and within 24 hours he'll be calling. A month went by and finally I called him myself. He said, "I haven't serviced your area in 2 years, and Maytag knows that. "So back to calling the company, and threatening to go to Better Business Bureau. Nothing happened, and I continued throwing out frozen food items. Now trying to use the door shelves as a crisper, in an effort to keep fruit and vegetables from freezing.
Finally in frustration I wrote Better Business Bureau a letter and within 2 weeks I had a call from Maytag (now Whirlpool) and Alison ** promised to send yet another appliance repairman out. (Generously, she promised this would be at no cost to us - HELLO??? I should hope not! I've only been complaining for the past YEAR!) He did indeed come (it was now July 2008, 16 months after purchase) and he did a small repair, and said he needed to return with a new damper. He seemed to think the noise was insignificant and ignored it. When he returned a few weeks later with the part, it turned out to be the wrong one. It was now September 2008 and I, in frustration, phoned Alison ** back to once again complain that NOTHING has changed with the problems in my refrigerator. A couple weeks later, I pick up a parcel addressed to me, and there is a new damper for my repair. So it's now up to me to call the appliance repair company back. He comes to install the new damper, and SURPRISE!! It's the wrong one. Now, October 2008, and I'm waiting.....again.

So much for their famous (and false) TV ads about the Maytag repairman with nothing to do. I told them I needed a working refrigerator. They didn't care. Ten days .. take it or leave it. Now, here it is September 2008, less than a year later and the same thing has happened: the refrigerator is not cooling and I've lost everything in the freezer again (It's getting costly to keep replacing meats & fdrozen vegetables!) Apparently the repairman gave me another defective cooling unit ... or Home Depot sold me a lemon. I am just furious about this. Called service company tuesday morning and was told they could not be here until Wednesday morning. Called Maytag back they were able to get another authorized repair company to come out tuesday afternoon. I met the repairmen at the house in checked the unit and said the board was bad. I asked him why that would cause the compressor not to run and he stated that the boardssometimes do not allow the proper voltage to the compressor causing the compressor not to run.
He went to a supply house and came back replaced the board and compressor still did not run. He than checked the charge and found the unit had leaked the freon out. He repaired leak and changed compressor out, but instead of charging the system with the original freon (R-134a) he used a differant refrigerant (R414b) I questioned him on this and he stated that the supply house did not have any R-134a and this was the same thing. He than added the wrong refrigerant never evacuating the system or weighing the charge in. He than stated that the capilarry tube was plugged and that he would call the factory for advice. The factory astated that there was a fix kit a whole new evaporator section and capilarry tube replacement. But he would have to drilll holes in the back of the unit to do this work.
I am experienced with Refrigeration having been in the field for 30+ years. I called Maytag again to complain and asked if I could talk to a technician/Enginer. I was firmly told that customers are not allowed to discuss repairs with any one but the authorized repairman. I firmly told them that the work was done improperly and they stated that they would have a technician call the repairman and discuss how to repir the refrigerator.
I again asked to talk with a experienced enginner and was told Maytag/ Whirlpool would not put anything in writing or allow me to discuus this with anyone. My option would be to have another Maytag authorized service company come out ( another service charge to me) and review the situation. I bought a Maytag refrigerator from Home Depot in March 2007. And I started using the refrigerator after my marriage which was late in May. After 3 months later I noticed that the food and water in the cooler were not as cold as before. And I noticed that there was ice building up in back of the freezer part. I thought either my wife or I didn't close the door well. So I melted ice by turning off the machine. It took me serveral hours to remove the ice in the freezer. Right after that it seemed to be working again. But another 3 months later it happened again.
So I called Maytag to find out if there's a way to replace the machine. It's happened after short period of time after the purchase. Maytag said I'll have to get the service. They don't have any service like replacement. Since it's in warranty period I called A&E Fatory service to check the problem.
Technitian came and check the machine and he used hair blower to melt the ice. He said it seems working again. If it happens again he will order parts and replace. And 2 months later I see the ice built in the back of the freezer again. So technitian came and order the parts. It took me almost a month to receive all the parts.
After the parts were replaced, it seemed working ok. But it just took little bit longer(5-6 months) to have ice built in freezer. This time I tried the hair blower to melt down the ice. After I did that, this time it only last a month. So I called the A&E service and made a servoce schdule. This time the technitian called me and said the warranty was over last March so if he comes today then there'll be a charge to check the problem. and he mentioned that there's no such a service like replacement. I'll have to get the service no matter what even if it happens 100 times or 1000 times. It was ridiculous. If i have to get a service every 3~5 months, what's the point to keep this machine. I'm thinking to buy new one instead of paying service charge.
I had to throw away the food and beverages in the cooler every time I got service. I had to have a day off from work to get service the machine. And my wife and I got stressed out over a year dealing with repeating problem.

The bottom of the Freezer should of not crack with it being only a year old.
I wanted them to replace the refridgerator but they told me no. I am also filing a complaint against Maytag for not standing by their name.

In August of 2004 we purchased a Maytag French Door refrigerator (model MFD2560HEW) from our local Lowes. This August, 2008, we discovered the refrigerator was not cooling. Luckily we discovered it early and we had an Amana side by side in the basement, mosly used for beer and sodas. We lost a very minimal amount of food. But when we tried to get it fixed, (five year warranty), the real problems started. First I called Whirlpool. They said yes it is covered but we don't service your area.
So I called Lowes. Their service people said they would send someone that could fix it under warranty. Wrong. The guy came and looked, said the compressor had failed. he said actually he would not have had to look, they all fail. Anyway, when I asked about warranty he said he didn't do warranty but could fix it COD. Price on the compressor, $1200, and that wasn't even installed. I figured there must be a way to get warranty repairs so I said no thanks. He said OK, that will be $85.00 diagnostic fee please. So I paid the guy, he's just trying to make a buck.
I then called Whirlpool again, got a customer service person and explained the situation. She apologized profusely, said she would need to take the problem to her supervisors since they had no service where we live (Culpeper County, VA). She promised to call back within 24 hours. As has been noted in some of the other complaints they don't call back. I told my wife they wouldn't if this website was right. They didn't.
Next my wife says 'let's go to Lowes '. So we got the receipt and the manual and off we went. I figured she was fired up so I'd let her do the talking. She got the manager and the appliance guy and they looked in the computer and talked and himmed and hawed. Finally the manager says to go back and pick out a new refrigerator. My wife says, 'bottom line, what's it going to cost me?' Manager says 'nothing'.
So today we received a brand new Samsung, 26 cubic door French door refrigerator. Free! Kudos go to Lowes. The appliance guy said if the manufacturer doesn't step up to the warranty, Lowes will. And they did.

I called for service and the A&E tech showed up late morning on 7/16/08. He reported the Compressor had seized up and required a replacement. I asked Joetta at Maytag service for a replacement REfrigerator but she said it was not their policy but she could expedite a compressor shipment in about 2 days. I complained through the Maytag site email and got the same reply from their responder Erin M.
Meantime I had lost all my food and had no ref. I complained to Home Depot and they came through for me allowing the tempoary use of a refrigerator until my new selection, a GE model (made in Korea) arrived and they would take back the Maytag. I am suing Maytag for food loss in small claims and so should a lot of others who seem to be in the same boat. Maytag does not stand by their products. The qulity is poor and the Maytag slogan BUILT STRONG TO LAST LONG is far from truth in advertising.
Over $300+ in food loss. Four hours lost work time by my wife waiting for the A&E tech. Constant running back and forth to fetch foods that could be used during the day. With gas at over $4/gal this was not cheap.

We bought Maytag's Stainless Steel, French Door, Bottom Freezer from Home Depot in Chantilly, Virginia less than four years ago. I don't have the paper work in front of me at the moment, but it was a very expensive refrigerator....about $2,500.
I am now on the THIRD compressor in less than four years! The third one just arrived today and I'm not so sure this one will last as it was made in Brazil. The service man said if this doesn't work he will have to replace the main control panel.
Fortunately, we are under warranty (for the compressor only) being less than four years since the purchase, but at this rate we will have something else go wrong next year for sure. The service man said the main control panel may need replacing also and this is not covered, nor is the $300+ loss of food, nor me having to take a total of four days off from work. I'm a dental hygienist and I don't get paid unless I work.
The only bright spot is that I have laughed hysterically over some of the other complaint letters. I guess misery loves company. I know that there is a lawyer out there that could do quite well for himself or herself and help others with a class action lawsuit. I just cannot believe how many people are having trouble. Maytag should be sued. Sign me up!

Maytag does not stand behind it's lemon law policy. Each time, the fridge box climbs to 80 - 90 degrees, and each time it's a replacement of the same inadequate part.
This unit is not inexpensive to begin with, and one would hope would last 10+ years. I have lost hundreds of dollars on groceries that have been cooked in my fridge when it quits while I am at work, have lost time at work sitting at home awaiting a repair man, have had to purchase extended service agreements in order to keep pumping life into the fridge, and it's not even 4 years old.

Purchased a Maytag refridgerator when we moved to our new house 5 years ago. Probably 1/2 the time we have owned it the ice maker has not worked properly. We had two service calls, where the one time we had the ice maker replaced. We have hesitated making a third call as we don't think that this problem will ever be rectified. About 9 months ago the small door that lets the ice out, broke. Then the icemaker started filling with water. Water also collects on the bottom of the freezer and will run out onto the kitchen floor. About every two days we need to break/chop the ice out of the bottom of the freezer.
Of course, letters to Whirlpool/Maytag offer little or no help. We are just given the name of another tech to contact. By the way, I finally disconected the water line but there is still water collecting in the bottom of the freezer.(if only it would form as ice cubes I would be willing to overlook this design flaw). I keep hearing that our Fridge is out of warranty so there is nothing they can do. I never understood why a company could not bypass their guarantee or make good on their product when there is obviously a problem!

Within the past year we had to replace the ice maker unit ($250), the thermostat ($300) and now, just 2 months later it's not cooling again! What's wrong NOW we're wondering? We've already now sunk 1/2 the original cost of the thing into repairs, but is it worth it to fix it once again or just cut our losses and buy something else? We're thinking to DUMP it and start all over with something new. You can bet it won't be another Maytag though...OR Whirlpool, since they now own Maytag.

There will not be a maytag appliance anywhere in any the the future homes he builds. Maytag, you should be disgusted with yourself. I also know that whirlpool bought you out, so guess what , none of those product will be in the new homes either.
I lost all my food. It wasn't run of the mill food either. Organic meats such as lamb, beef, chicken, and game meats that can't be replaced easily. Organic berries picked myself from the Pacific northwest. The only things salvaged were sauces that I put in the garage Amana refrigerator that came with the house. Mind you it is thirty years old. What happened to quality merchandise? If I wanted crap, I would have went to Wal-Mart. But no I spent a ton of money only to get bigger crap.

We bought this Maytag Dual Cool new from the local Maytag dealer for over a grand on Aug 1, 2005. (We have no problems with the dealer.) But over the course of the first year, they had to come out to repair the refrigerator 5 times. They replaced the frig for free because it was in warranty. (We can provide the specific repairs with some searching through our files.)
Within the next year we had 2 more problems and we lived with them because it would cost us over $300 to repair. One was the module that provided for ice and water. We finally broke down and fixed it for $300. We didn't buy the advanced warranty as it was $226. a year and we thought, Gee, everything that could go wrong is already fixed!
We are making this complaint because we are angry with Maytag and feel their products are poorly made and therefore breakdown too much.
I almost forgot: we also bought from them Maytag washer/dryer. Both the washer and dryer had problems during the 1st year and they had to come out for them too. No additional problems for us, thank goodness.
Lost hours of time and convenience during the many repairs during the warranty, as well as $300 for repairs after the warranty ended.

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator side by side doors, that is basically four years old. About two months ago, I heard a strange noise coming from the refrigerator and I asked my husband to look at it. He cleaned in the necessary places and it ran for about two more weeks. Now we have been without a refrigerator for about two months. So we are in desperate need of a refrigerator. Why, don't I just buy another one? Well, in order to get another refrigerator where we live would be by air or boat, which the cost is outrageous.
I paid a pretty penny for this refrigerator, now I have to go fork out another $1,000 to $2,000 not including shipping to get it here. There are no service agents in the bush of Alaska so we have to figure this out on our own. I tell you what, I will never buy another Maytag product again, because you never know if your product will even last until MAY or if will only for the month of MAY. MAYbe it will and MAYbe it won't. I think they tag these items to say that...that's why they are called MAYTAG. The MAYbe machine.
All the food that has gone to waste because of this MAYBE I'll Refrigerator has costed me more than 500,00 dollars because she ship food in by bulk to feed our families, which mine is a family of nine. I shop at Costco and pay 67 cents for pound of shipping on a cargo airplane to get it here, so after spending 500.00 worth of frozen and refrigerated food, I am out once again about $800.00 after paying for shipping.

For the second time in 7 months, my less than 3 year old Maytag French door refridgerator/freezer isn't working. The first time it was a fan motor which caused the refridgerator compartment to fail, I lost the contents of the fridge then. This time, the appliance tech told me it's the compressor which, if covered under warranty, won't be available to me for a week to 10 days. This time, I lost the contents of the freezer, ie, meats, ice cream, breads, butter, etc.
When I called Maytag (now Whirlpool) I was told there is nothing they can do for me but try to get the part out sooner. The rep called a parts distributor and got no answer as it was after 5 pm. Now, they want me to call the distributor to check on the part availability. I was basically told that there's nothing they can do. I thought Maytags were the brand with little or no service issues and yet my refridgerator has broken down twice in 7 months. I can't believe that the company is unwilling to offer me any compensation at all.
I lost over $250 worth of frozen foods because they can't be re-frozen once defrosted. I saved some by cooking them but, still lost quite a bit.

In May of 2006, we purchased a Maytag French Door Refrigerator from Home Depot. Two months later, the freezer evaporator fan motor needed replacing, as well as the freezer door guide tracks. Now, some 23 months later, it quit cooling...on a Saturday. Due to our son being diabetic, and the need to store insulin in the fridge, we were desperate to find a repair person. Some one was able to come Monday, and confirmed that the compressor needed replacing. After receiving two out of the three parts, I was informed on Tuesday that the third part was on back order until May 16th!!! I will NEVER purchase any type of Maytag/Whirlpool appliance EVER!! I am now trying to feed a family of 5 out of a dorm fridge, and trying to keep all our son's insulin cool.
With my military husband away for the week, my family is eating out almost every day, or going to friend's homes for dinner. I've purchased a dorm fridge to keep meds cool, and have lost in the neighborhood of $200 worth of food. The emotional distress is priceless!! I can't fathom trying to get my famly by until this other part arrives. I'm at wit's end, can't afford another refrigerator and am looking at Navy Legal for advice in suing Maytag for selling a LEMON!!

Made the mistake of buying a Maytag MSD2756GEQ side by side refrigerator. About 1 month from the expiration of the warranty the thing stopped cooling. Still waiting for the final repair bill which will be steep based on the time and troubleshooting involved. Apparently the problem isn't with the major components that are covered by the 5 year warranty. Bottom line is I paid $1300 for something I will have to fix 4 years 11 months after the date of purchase. Never again will I buy a Maytag product, and will spread the word to discourage anyone from doing likewise.

Today my three year old Maytag refrigerator broke. The refrigerator has the Samsung name on the front but is actually made by Maytag. I found this out while looking for replacement parts online.
The problem began one week ago when the refrigerator started making darth vader like breathing noises. The noises where coming from the inside vents. Today the freezer stopped working and everything inside melted. I took the inside of the freezer compartment apart and found oil leaking from the coiling tubes. Oil is in the refrigerant so it was a leak. Surprisingly the refrigerator compartment is still working but I think it will fail soon, because the compressor is getting very hot.

Bought a Maytag French door refrigerator 1 1/2 yrs ago, at the tune of $2200. When you pay that much for a refrigerator, you assume it will not have problems for at least 10 years.
Well, the control panel started flashing at 3am on a Sat morn, and the ice door kept opening and shutting. I called my extended warranty (luckily I purchased one) and they could not get anyone out on a weekend. On Tues I called again. It would not be until Thursday before they could get a local repairman out. Meanwhile I had to purchase a small apt size fridge for my wife's medications and our food.
The repairman said he has seen 5 other of the same problem in our area and that Maytag is aware that the computer board has a problem, but no recall has been made.

We bought a new Maytag refrigerator in late 2005. We didn't buy any extended warranty as I consider them to generally be a rip-off, and with the Maytag/Amana name, it shouldn't have been necessary. However this last week, less than 3 years after purchase, the compressor took a dump. The tech who checked it out thoroughly, and came to the conclusion that it was shot.
A new compressor would cost us almost half what we paid for the box in the first place, so we are just going to get a new one. Needless to say, it will NOT be a Maytag or an Amana.

I bought a side by side Maytag refrigerator in 1999 from a Maytag local store after watching the Maytag ad on TV. Luckily, I bought the warranty because the first year, they had to service it for a broken handle door and then a water falls from a frozen water tubing. I guess this is just a start because they've visited us 2-5 times more for other problems. Last year, the freezer quit and the repairman told us that to unplug it and pour warm water inside the freezer to defrost--then it should work fine. It did work for few weeks; then it quit again. This time, they changed a part.
Recently, my fridge quit, and I was told the compressor is broken, and another repairman is to diagnose the problem. I am still waiting now over a week. My Maytag warranty had expired a long time ago, and my home warranty has been sending us a repairman. After reading all these complaints, I am disappointed with Maytag and would look for another brand.

We purchased a 25 cu ft French Door refrigerator in June 2005 from Metro Builders in Oklahoma City, OK. If we fill the top refrigerator more than 3/4 full, food starts to freeze, then the water line to the internal filtered water dispenser freezes, then the compressor fails. We just had our second compressor failure in 3 years. So far, warranty has covered parts, but not labor. Luckily we have a second refrigerator in the garage (not a Maytag...thank goodness) so we haven't lost food. But still, what a piece of junk. Two compressors in 3 years and having to constantly make sure that the refrigerator isn't filled more than 3/4 with food.

I have been buying bags of ice for months. I have had four different repair businesses work on it and was told this refrigerator is a real problem. Paying over $1500 for an appliance that has basic structural and mechanical problems is the pits. This model should be recalled immediately. My warranty expires in weeks, and the problems will continue I am sure.

We purchased a top of the line Maytag Side by Side refrigerator. Inside of a year, it failed. An electrical control failed. We lost the food and it deposited a pool of water on our new hardwood floors, ruining them. That's not so bad. Companies can have quality problems. What made it worse was Maytag customer service basically told us out of luck. Electrical controls are not under warranty. I wrote Maytag. They never responded! I filed a small claims suit. A month later AT the trial, the judge opened a letter received from Maytag the day before the trial. They claimed that they did not do business in California. AMAZING. I paid hundreds of dollars to find their agent of record in the state to serve them and they pulled a last minute shell game. I then paid other fees to have them served at their corporate headquarters. Meanwhile, the refrigerator (after having been repaired) failed again depositing another pool of water on our already ruined floors. I would never buy another Maytag appliance. I would only operate a Maytag appliance with a tray underneath it (to catch water!) and with an electrical surge protector. Their company sells poor quality products marketed as being reliable.

I never had any trouble getting this accomplished. However, today (07 JAN 08), I ran into the most obstreperous people ever in customer service. The first time I called, a man said he couldn't help me unless I could provide him with the account number of Benson's in Peoria. I have NEVER before had to give them that information! I did secure it, but they said no one had ever before asked for that information! I called back and had the misfortune to get a person named, Chris, i.d. number 7343. He was totally rude, loud, nasty, impolite.
After finishing our conversation, I asked him to connect me to his supervisor. A woman named Susie answered. I told her why I was calling her. I started to tell her what happened and all SHE did was interrupt me and start asking for my details. It might have been more polite and PROFESSIONAL of her to HEAR ME OUT before interrupting me for details? Oh, and before she hung up on me (some awful noise came over the phone on their end like someone pressing a key on the phone), she said there was no record of my confirmation number. She did get my phone number information. You'd THINK she would phone me back after the noise on the line and her disconnect, right? NOT!
