I bought a Maytag bottom freezer refrigerator (Model MBF1956KEB) and the refrigerator section stopped cooling after 3 days of being delivered. The freezer's back panel forms a block of ice. I tried defrosting it manually but it does not work. I called the store where I bought it and they are trying to get it fixed ASAP, but are still waiting for the part to arrive. It has been a week.

I bought a refrigerator last December 2004. In August 2007, I had to put a new compressor - August 2009 came, and another new compressor. I have called and asked at the very least for a 4-year warranty. The response was that would give me a 10% discount on a new refrigerator. I feel that this refrigerator is a lemon. I paid $1,900 not even 5 years ago. I have had to pay for the repairman's service calls plus the cost of the food I have lost. I have been without a refrigerator for weeks at a time. I am not sure what to do from here. My fear is in another 2 years, it will go out again and the cost is $700-$900 for repair. At this point, Maytag has covered the cost of repair but only until the 5-year mark. What do I do?

We have a Maytag Plus side by side refrigerator/freezer. From early after delivery, we had to replace the ice-makers. Then, the door push pad switch went out and a service man replaced it. Shortly after this, there was a leak in door which, after a while, it started showing rust over the edge of the plastic cover. Now, we have a top of the line unit that looks like **. All because either the service man messed up, or because of a defective water connection in the door (because it leak water or moisture, causing issues with the door switch control). The repair people play this game with homeowners and factory so that homeowners get the shaft! Well, we are remolding the entire kitchen over the next several months, so guess what brand of five new appliances we're looking at?

Less than three years ago, we furnished our new home with what we thought were good quality Maytag appliances, refrigerator, washer and dryer. Currently our S/S fridge/freezer, Model #mzd2663keq, Serial # ** sticks in defrost mode. I have a temp. probe in the freezer. When it sticks & heats, you can watch the temp. go from -2 to 40 F, if the plug is not pulled. The defrost board was diagnosed by a repairman. Four boards later, it still sticks & heats. Using any of these boards, at different times - no pattern, produces a fully functional fridge, for a while. Then something else happens and causes it to stick & heat. This has been going on for months. It works, then it does not! We no longer keep anything too valuable in the freezer section. We rely on the old freezer in the garage.

I purchased a $1700 Maytag side-by-side fridge and have had nothing but problems with it -The ice maker constantly jams (It has been replaced.), the water holding tank has been converted to a tube system, the drawers don't keep the correct temperature, and after the 2009 safety relay recall, the fridge stopped working. As it is no longer under warranty, I was forced to pay a $276 bill to have it fixed. The A&E service rep told me the part cost $88, but the labor was almost $200. It took him literally 10 minutes to replace this part. When I asked how much they charged per hour, he told me they don't charge by the hour but by the job code. It sounds like bologna to me.

I am extremely disappointed and have had no problem with my 20-year-old Whirlpool fridge in the basement. I will never purchase a Maytag product again and will tell everyone I know of my experiences with my Maytag appliances. I also have a stove and washer and drying system and have had problems with these items as well.

Maytag refrigerators had a relay recall. My refrigerator fell under the recall but had actually failed before the recall (part melted and smoked). When Sears came out to fix the fridge, the individual service call was going to cost more than purchasing a service agreement, so we paid for our repair by buying the service agreement ($50 cheaper). Maytag will not reimburse for the service agreement, even though we would never have called Sears or purchased a service agreement if our fridge hadn't failed due to their faulty relay.

I'm sure anyone that had their relay fail before the recall, that called for their own repair, would have taken the cheaper of the two choices (pay for individual service or pay for service agreement which will cover the needed repair), and Maytag is using it to their advantage to not have to reimburse their customers. I’m out $250 and my fridge has still not been looked at since the recall to ensure it won't happen again.

The refrigerator is not cold and the freezer is icing over. This has happened a few times now. Luckily, we still have insurance on it. We bought this from Sears in 8/2002. It used to be a year between repairs. Now it happens every 6 months that something goes wrong. I go into the internet about Maytag today and found out it is still happening today with the new Maytags. How come you people haven't stepped up and notified the public of this? Not in your magazine, but on TV where it would get to all the people and stop the public from buying this piece of junk product. It tells me that you guys are no help at all and are part of the problem.

I am very disappointed in my Maytag french door refrigerator which I purchased in April 2006! I thought I was purchasing a very good product. Wrong. I spent over $2000 for an inferior product. First, the computer board went out in first year and a half. Warranty barely covered it with a lot of runaround. It took me hours on the phone complaining. Finally, Maytag agreed to pay. This year, July 2009, the icemaker went out. I called Maytag and no recall from what service rep said. I can't believe that something that expensive has problems so early in its life. My grandparents believed in Maytag; unfortunately, things have changed so do not buy this product.

We received notification of the recall from Maytag in April 2009. We were scheduled for repair on July 9. We waited all day but received a call from A&E service (It's apparently a company Maytag contracted with. We have heard they are owned by Sears.) at 4:45 saying they would not be able to make it out that day. They came on Friday, July 10 and installed the relay.

On Saturday morning, we discovered the refrigerator wasn't working at all and the floor was covered with water. We called Maytag and spoke first to April, who referred us to A&E, the service company. They said they could not come out on Saturday and referred us back to Maytag. We then reached Anastasia at the escalation line of Maytag and got a huge runaround about sending someone out that day.

After numerous calls, A&E did eventually send the same repairperson out on Saturday, July 11, who admitted to us that they are aware that the relay has caused this same problem with other customers. (It caused the compressor to go out.) A&E had to order a part, which was to be delivered to us on Monday. The part did not arrive, and we were re-scheduled for repair on Tuesday, July 14, which was again re-scheduled on Wednesday, July 15. Both appointments were cancelled by A&E. Finally, one week later, the repair was complete.

My fridge suffered a short circuit, blew up the compressor, and scorched the wall behind the fridge. The costs of repair were too high to merit doing it. So we threw the fridge out. We then learned of the recall. Maytag is not offering to compensate for anything other than the 78$ diagnosis. They refuse to discuss this further. They admit the fridge was faulty, but since I don't have the fridge, they won't do anything about it. If a class action suit gets going, I would vote yes.

This is related to the Maytag recall on the side-by-side refrigerators. The recall part was installed about five weeks ago. After about a week, the fridge began to get too cold and the milk froze. So, my wife turned down the temperature. Within a couple more weeks, the fridge got really warm. So I turned it up to max, but that didn't fix it and some of the food spoiled.

I called Maytag and told them that whatever they did, installing the recall part has messed up something else, because we've never had this problem before. I've read many posts where people could not even get in touch with Maytag. To be fair, I got a representative right away. She scheduled an appointment for the following day but argued with me that the recall part caused the problem.

The popular A&E company rep came to look at the fridge. I told him how things went down and that it was simply too coincidental that this occurred after the recall part was installed. I also showed him six or seven pages of complaints from other people stating the same problem after the recall part was installed. The A&E guy looked at the freezer, which was completely frozen in the back and in the coils. He went on to describe that the part that controls the air flow temperature or something like that probably burned out. But he went on to describe that the recall part was the very same part as the old one but just with a cover on it to keep sparks from shooting out and starting a fire and that it would not have caused the other part to go bad.

I interrupted him at that point and told him that if he's investigating the problem right now, he let me know the moment he thinks he's going to want to charge me any money and to not proceed till he tells me that. He said fair enough, then he went out to his truck for a while. He came back in with a hair dryer and a part. He defrosted the freezer, then he installed the part on the inside of the fridge. He had to remove the panel that has the temperature controls on it and got in there to replace the part.

When he was done, he sort of lectured me that A&E is not out to screw anyone over and that they are a responsible company, etc. He then handed me a receipt, and I said, "Is this a bill?" because I saw $278 on it. He got kind of upset and said no! Well, how would I know that when I see $278 on a printout. Anyway, obviously, things went ok for me versus other stories I've read about this problem. I think what's happening is that A&E is getting the same bad rep as Maytag now. And well, they should because they know what is going on just as much as Maytag does. I'd make an educated guess that they know the recall part is blowing out that other board, but their payoff from Maytag might not be such a good thing since their reputation is going down the tubes.

I'm writing this to help other folks, who are getting burned in this situation. I was all prepared to buy a new fridge and put the Maytag in the garage till the class-action lawsuit, which I'm guessing is soon to come, will finally get me my money back. There was no way I was going to pay to have the A&E guy fix the unit. I have that luxury though, because we have another fridge to survive on. But, I think the combo of the printouts of other people on this site and other sites, my body language to the rep, and possibly Maytag/A&E coming to the reality that they're going to get pummeled if they don't do the right thing got me the fridge fixed at no charge. Thanks everyone else for giving me the ammo I needed. I hope this note helps, too.

We had our Maytag refrigerator's side-by-side relay switch replaced on 7/8/09 because of a Maytag factory recall notice. The very next refrigerator was broken. They sent another repairman out the following day to fix and charged us $286, claiming it was unrelated to the relay switch replacement. We purchased our refrigerator in 2002 and have not had any problems with it until they replaced the relay switch.

We purchased a Maytag refrigerator in March 2005. About 1 year later, the ice/water dispenser stopped working and we noticed a burnt smell. And the release bar for the ice dispenser was melted. I called Fry's, and they refused to help, citing I didn't bought the in-store warranty. I called Maytag. They stated that they have a documented warranty for me and asked if I registered the product. They said they could send a repairman but with fees.

Soon, the refrigerator started barely cooling and puddles started to appear on my wooden floors. The freezer started developing ice in the back of it, not cooling along with the fridge side. It would defrost and start cooling again. We learned of the recall and called Maytag. Our refrigerator has every one of the symptoms; however, they said our serial did not start with the proper letter. We have lost hundreds of dollars of food repeatedly. I have requested numerous calls from Maytag management, and we have not heard a word from them.

Our refrigerator compressor, and possibly the relay, stopped working, so we had a repairman come look at it. He said that he had replaced two relays in the fridge but that it looked like the compressor was shot. So we called Maytag, and the person we spoke with said that it was out of warranty and that they could not help. So 4 days went by and we're trying not to spend $4700.00 in repairs. But we had to go to Lowe's and purchase a new Whirlpool fridge ($1190.00). The day after we bought the new fridge, we got a letter from Maytag which indicated that Amana have been having problems with a certain model number and serial number and that they give the listings. Ours match the recall serial number and model number, but when we called back, Kevin told us that even though the model and serial number matched, it is "not" one of the ones on the recall (after we mentioned the fridge was broken).

My wife made the first call to Kevin and I made a second call to him today and spoke with him and his supervisor, both giving us the same standard answer. It is quite a coincidence that our fridge breaks and it has the matching numbers but not one of the ones on their list. Our model number is (ARS)E66ZBW with the code given in the parentheses, and our serial number is 10287373(AX) with the code given in the parentheses. Our manufacturing number is PARSE66ZBW0.

I have the Maytag Wide by Side refrigerator. For the second time now, it has gone out. The first time the defroster went out - causing the refrigerator to quit cooling - then causing us to lose food, etc. Got the replacement part - then got the recall repair (the fire hazard) - now it has gone out again - can't get the refrigerator under 65 degrees. I have a $300 refrigerator in my garage that has performed infinitely better than this $1,700 one. The consequences were; lost food, repairs that didn't fix the problem and a refrigerator that doesn't work.

Purchase warranty for $81, A&E truck. 11 months later, it dies. Replace under warranty motor start relay and motor capacitor. Relay made in Brazil. Service van is not A&E, but an unmarked truck with no yellow pages listing. No receipt offered.

On 6/29/09 it dies. Trips circuit breaker. A&E van arrives, replaces toasted compressor, announces capacitor previously done under item #2, was a "hard start" unit, and subject to failure. Beware of 3rd party subcontractor repair types, and if you don't have a service agreement, you're screwed. Maytag reefers suffer from low-grade offshore parts, and Sears’ service can be iffy depending on who shows up. I will never use Maytag again in my lifetime.

A serviceman came out to do repair and found out that he needed a repair board to make the repair. After he left, we found out that nothing worked anymore. A&E Factory Service came to replace the recalled relay switch in our fridge. The technician then said that the condenser fan was not working and needed to be replaced. I had never had any problems with the fridge and demanded that the work be done at no charge. A&E refused, but Maytag said they would authorize the repair at no charge. When a second technician from A&E came 4 days later, he said the electrical connection was good but the fan motor was burned out. Maytag then denied saying they would authorize the work and I told the technician to leave. When my husband went to remove the fan with the intention of replacing it himself, he saw that one of the electrical terminals was bent/unconnected. When connected properly, the fan worked fine. Either A&E has incompetent technicians or they are intentionally sabotaging appliances to obtain more work. We had to drive 40 minutes to a parts store to get another motor for freezer so it would work, not the identical part but what was recommended to us for substitution. I paid tons of money for this fridge, a ton of money in parts, labor and more parts, not to mention all the food we lost and threw out. This fridge was bought the same time as a washer. I had a fridge delivered on June 5th that I ordered from an actual Maytag store and not a reseller like Best Buy. I paid $1000 for the side by side and purchased a three-year warranty. The guys came to deliver it the next week and I thought it was strange that the same guy who sold it to me also delivered it but no biggie. They came in and took out my old one (the compressor went out). Then I got called outside to take a look at the fridge. As soon as I walked outside, you could see a golf ball sized dent in the side of it. I did not purchase a scratch and dent fridge. John, the seller and delivery guy, said that I could either take it with a discount or they could order me a new one and have it delivered the next week. I told him that I didn't purchase a dented fridge but I couldn't wait for a new one as I didn't have a second fridge in my house and I have a family. I told him to bring it in and I would discuss it with him when my husband got home. I asked him what the discount would be and he told me well since it's not the highest end model, Maytag will probably only give me $50. I said who cares how much I spent or what model it was, I didn't order a dented fridge.

So the guys left and my husband called and they did only offer us $50 or a new one. I just got back from maternity leave and I have no vacation left to take off to wait for a new one. My husband has vacation but not much. I called the Maytag customer service line and explained to them what the problem was and that they were putting me in a position to where I had to accept the $50 (not enough money for the dent) or get a new one and waste a vacation day. She told me that she could offer me a six-month extension on my warranty but that's useless as the warranty doesn't cover the dent. I told her no, I didn't want the extension, I didn't want the $50 and I would take a vacation day. I wanted more money off the cost of the fridge. She said that I was given three options and those were the only three options that she was going to offer me and she kept repeating herself.

I told her that I would never purchase anything from them again and that I would do everything I could to keep people I know from buying from them and all she could say was, "I'm sorry to hear that." She didn't seem to care. Go figure. I wasn't expecting a free refrigerator. I just expected more than $50 back as I know for a fact that they would sell it for less than $1000 on the floor as a scratch and dent because I almost bought one for $300 less than what I paid for. After the delivery guys left, my neighbor who watches everyone came over and said that she saw them dent the fridge in the truck and they were freaking out because they didn't know if I was going to keep it or not. She said that they swung the door open on another fridge and it hit the side of mine. I told the customer service rep this and she ignored me and didn't even address that problem. I will never purchase anything from them again and I hope that none of you will as well. Their customer service line is horrible and very unhelpful. They don't care about the consumer!

There is a recall on Whirlpool/Maytag/Kenmore refrigerators which was caused by the failure of the relay (appears to be a different part number but with the same issues of catching fire).

After going from department to department, the Sears consumer affairs division put me on an emergency service call list and they're scheduled to come in two days. I have contacted Whirlpool and was told they can do nothing for me despite being the manufacturer. They refused to provide information relating to the relay whether there have been other reports of this occurring with this relay. Quite obviously to me, if this issue is occurring with relays, there should be a recall on my model but it is not included in the recall. I'd like to have others who have had this issue provide me with details so I can pursue it and hopefully extend the recall to this model.

Maytag Refrigerator Recall Notice: Maytag is being disingenuous regarding its commitment to repair and rectify this fire hazard. My refrigerator (which is on the recall fire hazard list) is recessed in cabinetry. When a repairman arrived, he refused to pull it out unless I signed a waiver absolving him of any damage caused by him to get to the rear of the refrigerator. When I refused to sign the document, he left without making the repair. In a telephone conversation, he later stated that it was a two-man job and Maytag would only pay for one man. When this information was brought to the attention of Diana, a supervisor in the "escalation department" of Maytag, she insisted that the form be signed, or as an alternative, that I accept the sum of $75 in full satisfaction of Maytag’s recall/repair obligation. It also made no difference to Maytag that I and my husband are senior citizens and are unable to personally remove the refrigerator so it can be repaired. This does not seem to be a good faith attempt by Maytag to fulfill its recall obligation.

A month ago, my Maytag refrigerator started smelling like it was burning, making noises, and finally stopped working. I lost everything in the fridge and the freezer, which was such a waste, since I am receiving food stamps. I bought this piece of junk in Portsmouth NH on Christmas Eve in 2003. I was desperate, because it was Christmas, and needed the appliance immediately. I got nowhere with State Street Discount or Maytag, so I called 3 different times to report this issue to the US Consumer Product Safety at the above phone number. I was told this fridge was not in the recall. My numbers match on the recall notice (model number "MT"B22156GE*).

There are 2 model numbers in the fridge. One is on the inside left, and the other one is inside the freezer. The only difference in both numbers is that the one in the fridge has a W at the end of it. This is definitely a recall, because the beginning letters match the recall notice. I have been without a fridge now, since all this started a month ago. I just don't have the money for repairs, or a new fridge. I will badmouth the Maytag Company until the day I die, and will spread it to all my friends in the internet, hoping they will spread it to all their friends!

In the meantime, I am not eating properly, because I have nowhere to put my perishable foods, and I am an elderly with all kinds of health problems. I didn't know, until this happened, that I had so many tears left in this old body! I am physically sick over this, and I am still without a fridge. I lost money, food, and health (I did get very ill one day when it all started, because I ate a sandwich which had meat that had gone bad, because the fridge was too warm). Now, I will end up going to court over this. In fact, I am going over there this coming Monday.

My refrigerator went out back in February, around the 20th. The compressor went out. I talked to Maytag and since the refrigerator is only 2.7 years old, they would give me 50% off the parts, so I said okay. I hired the repair company locally and they charged me $306.00 to install the parts and install the new freon. The refrigerator still did not work. The technician I hired then called Maytag himself and told that the compressor did not take and additional parts are going to be needed to take care of the problems. Maytag agreed to send us the parts free of charge.

I have received the parts, but I am still waiting for the evaporator which has been back ordered since February. We are now into June, I still do not have a working refrigerator. I feel I am been jerked around. I have told Maytag what is the problem, their response is that I do not have a warranty on the refrigerator. I told that is crap, I have two other refrigerators I have had for over 6 years and never had a problem with them. This refrigerator is the Ice2O model. I paid good money for it and it does not work. This is not the first time I have had a problem with this refrigerator. It went out after one year and a day and I had to fight with them to fix it again. They told me the warranty was up. I fought with them and they fixed it two weeks later under warranty. Now, with this problem, I have been without a refrigerator since February and I feel a replacement is in order or a refund of the purchase price, so I can go out and buy a new one but a different brand!

Luckily, I have two other refrigerators in my garage so the family and I have been using those in the garage, but it is a big hassle to cook in the kitchen then have to walk back and forth to the garage to get the items we need to cook with.

I purchased my Maytag refrigerator in 2001, thinking I was getting a "top-of-the-line" appliance that would be trouble free. I have had 3 ice makers installed, and this last one is flooding my kitchen, as well. My fridge is part of the recall...my son opened up the freezer door one evening and a flood of water, blood, and ice cream gushed out. I called a repairman the next day. He said I was lucky it hadn't burned my house down because the compressor was running REALLY hot. I can't afford to get it fixed, so borrowed an old fridge from a friend. The Maytag made a very nice looking pantry. No money for a new fridge! Then I heard about the recall on the news. Called up Maytag and sat on hold for three and a half HOURS! I was told that they were really busy so I should call back "tomorrow" because they couldn't help me, due to the large call volume. I called back three days in a row, being kept on hold for a MINIMUM of two hours each time. I finally gave up and decided to wait a few days. I called back four days later, sat on hold two hours and fourty five minutes before someone actually answered and sceduled a repair man to come out. He replaced the starter motor, which had burned out, due to the compressor not working properly. He told me it was fixed and I would have no further trouble with it. This was on March 4, 2009. On Saturday evening, my son opened up the freezer and the flood washed over his feet AGAIN! The coil at the bottom back, behind the panel, was glowing red hot, it was making a sizzleing noise, everything in my freezer was melted and the meat had started to COOK! The inside of the freezer was so hot, we could not take the food out without using oven mitts! We unplugged it immediately and pulled it away from the wall. The wall behind the fridge was too hot to touch! I hate to think what would have happened if we had been sleeping or not home! I called Maytag to discover that the phone number that says "call anytime" only works before 8:00p.m.!! I called at 9:00 a.m. Monday morning and was tranfered from one person to another for over three hours! I called FIVE different phone numbers and was told by all these so-called "customer service" people that since I had already had it fixed once, due to the recall, any other repairs were my responsibility! Even if it turns out that it is the same problem. Apparently their recall policy is NOT to actually FIX the problem, but to make you THINK they have fixed the problem. They do and say ANYTHING to make the "valued" customer pay for the repairs. I am afraid to plug this fridge back in! I don't want to burn to death! I don't want my children to burn to death! But they don't care. It's "not our responsibility to repair your refridgerator". I can't afford to have someone cme out to fix it. I definitely can't afford a new fridge! The attitude of the Maytag staff is definitely NOT one of customer service. They seem to be trained to protect the Company no matter who they kill in the process. It's not their problem. NEVER again will I buy a Maytag. And I'm telling all my friends and family and co-workers, and anyone else I talk to! DO NOT BUY A MAYTAG. They have NO customer service and their advertising is EXTREMELY FALSE!

Saturday afternoon we went opened the freezer and most everything POURED out. Our frig, which was working before the 'repair', now was not. Sean said that they would send the repair person back out, on Monday. I asked him what I was supposed to do with the food that was no longer frozen and actually kind of warm. He said i should put it in a cooler. I told him they needed to send someone today, Saturday. He informed me that the repair shop that came out was closed until Monday. I asked him to call one that was open on Saturday, he said he couldn't do that, they HAVE to send out the same company that was there. I asked for his supervisor, he said he didn't have one, he's the one in charge. After confirming with him that he was not the CEO of Maytag, he finally told me that his supervisors name was Abby, but she did not have a phone, so I could not call her. I asked him how he communicated with her when he needed to and he said that he would walk over to her desk. ? He finally tranferred me, after leaveing me on hold for 10 minutes, to someone that identified herself as a 'corporate manager'. Jessica, id#11739, who gave me the same story, we can't call someone else to go out, it has to be the same company, they are closed until Monday. I told her that would not be acceptable and asked for her supervisor. She said his name was Mike, would not give me his number, and would not transfer me to his voice mail. She said that he is just an administrator and would not be able to help me. I asked again for them to call someone else, she said "this call is no longer productive, good bye" and hung up. I called back to speak with Sean again, was placed on hold for another 10 minutes and then disconnected. I called again, was placed on hold for over 10 minutes. While waiting, called on my cell phone and asked to speak to Sean and was placed on hold. The person on my cell phone came back on and transferred me to Sean. While speaking to Sean, the first person picked up and said that Sean was at lunch and could not come to the phone. I told her that I found that interesting since I was speaking to him on the other line. I purchased a Maytag refrigerator model #MFI2568AEW in August of 2007 and it just started experiencing problems; specifically the control panel lights flashing and the flapper valve for the ice dispenser is cycling open and closed causing a popping noise. I called Maytag customer assistance this morning. They did not know what would cause this problem and suggested I get a Maytag certified technical service representative to look at the refrigerator (at my cost). I then did some research on the internet and found numerous other owners of this refrigerator that had the same problem (in 2007 and 2008).

Coincidentally, most experienced this problem just after the warranty period expired. According to the internet posts, the problem is caused by two capacitors on the control panel that overheat and fail. Someone with a little electronic repair skills can purchase replacement capacitors at a local radio shop and perform the repair with minimal cost for parts (about $20.00) or purchase a new panel board and replace the entire board (cost about $200). After reading these internet posts, I again called the Maytag customer service department and asked if Maytag could send me a replacement control board at no cost, since there were so many people that have experienced this issue. I was told that I would have to pay for the part since there were no current recalls, etc. for the model of refrigerator that I owned.

It seems to me that this is a design flaw that should be corrected by Maytag. Hopefully, your organization can look into this problem and try to get Maytag to acknowledge they have a problem and provide owners with a re-engineered part that will correct this issue. Thank you for your consideration.

I have a Maytag Plus refrigerator, model# MSD2556AE. Last month, the refrigerator stopped working. I contacted Sears and made appointment for a technician to come out and fix the fridge. A technician came out, investigated, found what he said the problem and got the fridge running. After paying a fee of a $186, the tech went about his business. Couple hours after the technician left, the fridge stopped working again. Hah, I was furious. Like most people nowadays, barely have money to buy groceries, now I am an extra ~ $200 deeper in a hole.

I contacted Sears again, explained the situation and scheduled another appointment. Another technician came to my house (first thing in the morning), investigated and told me such and such was not re-installed properly. After taking out the assembly out (located on the upper right hand side) and re-assembled, the fridge was humming again like it was working so the tech left. Around evening, the wife and I feeling happy, went out grocery shopping (didn't even bother checking the fridge). Couple hours later, after spending close to $200 on groceries, we came back home. I opened the fridge door and lo and behold, the stuffiness smacked me right in my face. The fridge had stopped working again. I contacted Sears again and this time a senior tech was scheduled to come look at the fridge. Upon the tech arrival, I asked him couple questions and based on his answers, I went out and purchased a new fridge from Sears Scratch and Dent. I am waiting for a refund from Sears.

Couple years ago, when I got home from work. I went down to the basement and found my carpet was soaked and the basement stuffy. After further investigation, I found that the water was coming from the fridge. I had to re-carpet the basement due to stuffiness. The fridge had been leaking for quite sometime and I didn't realize it. I called a Maytag repairman to come look at the fridge. His investigation revealed a bad sensor of some sort. I believed I paid him about $400 to come fix the fridge. This fridge had put me thousand of dollars in a hole. As I am typing this message, I am looking at the fridge ready to take a sledge hammer through it. It's amazing how a company can screw up consumers and there is really nothing consumers can do about it. Maytag has no ethics.

I then today, 4/6/09, called 1-866-533-9817 to see about getting the repair bill taken care of and was given 1-800-344-1274 to call. I called that and was given 1-866-317-9017 to call. I called that and was given 1-866-949-0676 to call. At this number, I was told the repairman I used was not Maytag authorized person so I could not get refunded. I don't think this is fair because I did not know about recall until after the fact.

This is not my first bad experience with Maytag. The other involved a Neptune Washer and dryer, but that is another story. What upsets me the most is Maytag is supposed to be the most dependable according to my grandparents and other relatives and I assumed that I could not go wrong with purchasing them. All I want is the money I paid for repair.

Maytag has a massive recall on their refrigerators and mine has done exactly what the recall is about. It has almost started a fire two different times after being repaired. The front ice/water dispenser has completely melted twice and caused minimum smoke damage in my kitchen. It melted the front panel beyond use. When it faulted on three different occasions, ice and/or water would start dispensing and then smoke would roll out of the panel. If I hadn't been there the last time, it probably would have burned my house down. I plan to take legal action since Maytag won't claim responsibility. My model# is MSD2356AEW. They say it is not on the recall list, but if it is not, it definitely should be. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

The repairman offered to try and repair the refrigerator, but could not promise that it would not catch on fire again, and did not blame us if we wanted to purchase a new refrigerator. Contacted Maytag again, and they would not even partially reimburse us for a new refrigerator, or the loss of food.
Just found out about the recall on Maytag refrigerators through a friend. Called the recall number, and our refrigerator was one that was recalled. After being disconnected 3 times, I finally spoke to an employee, and explained to her my situation, and asked if I was now going to be reimbursed. The employee tried to set up an appointment to replace the part, I explained to her again that we did not have the refrigerator. She stated that there was nothing that could be done. Asked to speak to a supervisor, and the supervisor said that there was no record of me contacting the Safety Dept after the repairman came. I called my husband who was traveling in New Mexico at that time and he told me to uuplug it. We had another refridgerator in the guest house so I moved it over and exchange everything. We didn't know about any bad parts. We knew it was bought new in 2001, and there probably wasn't any warranty since it had been 6 years, so it has set for 2 years. We finally got extra money and bought a new compressor from ADP. After getting it installed, the compressor was no good so it had to be removed. We took it back and they would not give our money back even though we paid cash. They said it was policy on COD orders. The compressor had to be sent in to Maytag and after we filled out the paper work it would take 6 to 8 weeks to get our money from Maytag. It also burnt up the wiring harness and the dryer was replaced. ADP told us we could pay cash for another one while we waited for our money. I told them they had to be crazy if they thought I would be out that kind of money and what if it wasn't any good. They got cash from me and would not give me cash back. They would not get our business again, if that's the way they do business. The women in the office would not work with us but we waited 3 days and talked to the gentleman who had sold us the part and he said our money would be backin our account within 2 to 3 business days. i checked today an it was.

On June 13, 2008 my husband and I woke up to the smell of melting plastic. we called the local fire chief to come and help us find were the smell was coming from. After our call we began smelling smoke. I had to wake up my boys (ages 3 & 8) and get them out of the house. By the time I got the boys out of the house and me back in the house my husband found the back of the refrig on fire!! We both pulled the refridg from the wall and he used a fire extinguisher to outen the fire. It then flared back up again!! He had to empty the enire fire entinguisher on the fire. By then the fire chief and trucks were at our house. Thank god my husband knew how to respond to the situation and thank god we had the correct fire extinguisher. The fire department had to set up exhaust fans to remove the smoke and fumes from our house. There was only a scorch mark behind the refrig. I could have been much worse. The fire chief recommended that I call Maytag that day, and notify them that the relay switch had caused a fire. I did and I was told that they had not had any problems reported. Maytag asked me if I cleaned the coils and the condenser atleast twice a year. They asked me if the refridg was on it's own circuit. The answer to both was yes. At the time they made me feel like it was my fault that the refidg caught fire. Like there was something that I neglected to do. By the way the manual on the refrig tells you that it has a no clean condenser. Maytag said all they could do is give me 15% discount on a new refridg. They did not cover the food lost or the cost of cleaning all the smoke smell and fire extinguisher dust from my entire home. My insurance company told me that because of the amount of my deductable that it wasn't in my best interest to claim the fire and if I reported the fire that my insurance would go up. I asked Maytag if they could do anything else for us, but the could not.

Our Magtag refrigerator, model #MZD2766GE, stopped cooling on 1/09/09. We called our appliance repair company, Flint Service Co. and the repairman replaced the relay switch. We then learned that our refrigerator was included in the recall list. Maytag arranged for A&E Appliance repair to do do the recall work, which was done on 3/12/09. At that time, we were told by the repairman that the defective relay switch had already been replaced. I faxed a copy of the original repair to Maytag, requesting a reimbursement of the $155.50 charge. I was told that I would not be eligible for the reimbursement because the relay switch that was replaced originally was not an authorized Maytag part. However, because the defective relay switch was replaced immediately, it may have prevented a fire. The repairman said he did not use a Maytag part because the part he used was more reliable. We have owned this refrigerator for 6 years and we have had three repairs on it, totaling $442.08. In the interest of providing good customer service, I think I should be reimbursed for the original repair of the defective part, even though it was replaced with a non-Maytag part. This is the first and last Maytag appliance that I will ever purchase and I will be sure to pass on this opinion to all of my friends.

I bought a Maytag Wide-by-Side refrigerator for my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary. They had seen them on T.V., in magazines, etc...and really wanted one. I bought it for them in June 2002 and before 6 months was up, there was trouble. The fridge was barely cooling and everything in the freezer was melting. Called Howard's and was given the run around and they told me there was nothing they could do and for me to call Maytag. I did that, the man came out and said it was a switch that controlled the cooling mechanism. He had to order the part, which he did and replaced it three days later. Of course, all the food in the freezer and some of the refrigerated things had to be thrown away. Once it was fixed, I went to the grocery store and replaced all that was lost, approx. $150.00. I no sooner got all the groceries put in it and it happened AGAIN. I called Maytag, another guy came out - 2 days later, said some adjustments needed to be made and everything would be fine. Again, I replaced all the food that was lost and guess what - YUP, it happened yet again, except this time, there was smoke and sparks coming from the electrical outlet. Needless to say I was NOT happy, especially since it was a gift for my parents. I called Howard's and demanded they take this thing out of the house. They refused. They told me that it was not their policy to take things back on returns. I fought with them for several days, all the while, we had no refrigerator, food had gone bad AGAIN and then i had to threaten them with a lawyer. I told them that if i did not get any sastifaction and get to speak with the manager, I would be in the store that evening with a lawyer. In the end, I went to the store, picked out a new refrigerator - a Fridgedaire, which was almost identical to the Maytag one but half the price AND dependable. I wanted to be reimbursed for all of the lost food, they refused, I called Maytag for the same reason, they also refused. I think what made me really mad in the end was, as I was leaving Howard's that night, I told the sales guy that sold this piece of garbage to me that I would NEVER buy another Maytag product and his response was, Well, as far as washers and driers, they really know what they are doing, but they just haven't figured out how to make refrigerators yet. I couldn't believe he actually said that, especially knowing that he lied through his teeth to get me to purchase it once i showed an interest in it. It was not cheap either. I paid $1,700.00 for that thing. Unfortunately, Howard's is still in business and I'm sure they continue to tell their sales people to lie to customers to make a sale, however, I will NEVER shop there again nor will I ever buy another Maytag product.

After wrangling with a very nice customer service gal, she agreed, as a one-time accomodation, to send replacement fan no-charge. She sent only the fan blade, no fan motor. When I called, at first Maytag denied there had been a no-charge replacement and claimed it was half-price, then they admitted they had sent it no charge, and although it was the wrong part, too bad This is a one time accomodation. I spoke to a Maytag authorized technician, he said they replace these faulty fans every day, and further, look out -- the circuit board may fail; and costs hundreds. Our appliance repairman was over 70 years old and had done appliance repairs for decades. He was independent, not employed by Maytag. He told us the nowadays newer appliances are built using cheap parts. It's sad that we would not trust any more appliances that carry American brand names. We wanted to buy American made products, now we would just purchase an European one. The pipe on the back broke and water was gushing out and into the basement through the ceiling. This happened at night and ruined out Pergo Floor and many other items in the basement (we just had finished). 5/2006 I went to clean the stove, locked the oven door and started the cleaning function. Smelled smoke, the seal on the stove was burning and burning the handle of the oven. $ 100.00 to replace the handle. 11/18/2007 - Sunday -- The Maytag side by side refrigerator starts leaving puddles on the floor, open the freezer door and everything is defrosting. Called Maytag they tell me it's out of warranty. Had to call a service technican. Cost me $120.00 flat rate just for them to come to the house. Compressor motor went, can't replace it until Friday. It's Thanksgiving week, no other refrigerator in the house. My husband looked up the part on line and went and picked it up himself in 20 minutes and put it in himself. $ 60.00 for the part. 2/2/09 - Open the freezer this morning to get ice, all of the freeze pops were liguid. By afternoon my son called and told me everything in the freezer had defrosted. Called Maytag again, this time they said because I was such a dedicated customer they would cover parts and labor and called A & E repair. All well and good, however it's Monday, they can't come until sometime Wednesday between 8 and 5. Again, I have lost everything in my freezer and refrigerator for the second time. I will never ever buy another Maytag appliance. From reading all of these complaints these refrigerators have problems. The Refrigerator, Model No:MSD254VEU has got a known problem; the fridge door cannot be opened for 2 min after the freezer was opened. Maytag knows about this problem. Not only that it takes several weeks to get the technician out but the only thing they do is to tell you that you need to put a rubber into the door frame so there is some air coming into the fridge; Payless Appliances told me that this will create another problem: It will facilitate the creation of ice into the fridge. The technician that came out told me they have numerous complaints about this model number, overwhelming amount. At Maytag is impossible to speak to a supervisor or somebody in charge. Few days after I bought the refrigerator and asked to be replaced, they told me that is tough luck and I need to get it repaired?. I am going to pursue this and write to the CEO of the company.

Two years later, I had to have the hinges replaced AGAIN. Last month the cap on the door ice dispenser broke (have to manually close it). This past Mon., 12-29-08, I called the repairman to come fix it--we made an appointment for tomorrow (1-2-09). Today, New Year's Day, I woke to find the fridge luke warm and the freezer barely cold!! Since it's New Year's Day, I know I can't get the repairman out today (fortunately, I have the appointment I made on Monday for tomorrow). Well the defrost mode stopped working on sunday 12/28. I called a&e frist thing monday morning the customer service woman was really rude, she wanted to know what i wanted her to do? I explained to her that the tech stated it would last on defrost mode until the part came in, she stated he should have never told me that and she could not get any one at my home until tuesday 12/30 so I hung up and called the corporate office of whirlpool in michigan, the operator transferred me to a executive I assumed in charge of compliants her name is Carolyn S. she commonly looked up my name and number put me on hold to see where the part was advised I should have it today or Wednday and she stated while I was hold she looked up the model number it showed my model number msd2641keu had no other compliants. So I asked her once the refrigerator was fixed what happens when it breaks down again because it will it just takes 8 to 11 months for it to do it. So she stated for one time only she would extend the warranty once again and that would be it. Which that was nice and all, but i wished i had seen this web site earlier so I could read to her all the problems everyone had with all of thier refrigerators. I will never purchase another Maytag or Whirlpool product. 70 months ago I bought a Maytag refrigerator. It was sold to me in a Maytag store, as the best in that moment. I also paid for an extended warranty agreement for 5 years.During this period, this refrigerator was repaired in multiple occasions for multiple problems(more than 10 occations??). Doors continuously sweating, Ice dispenser always clogged (the whole 5 years), and lately problems with the cooling system. The service company had to change the compressor twice in 3 months. The last time 60 days prior to extended warranty to finish. Days after the warranty expired, it stopped cooling again and the service company was called again and I had to repair it by my own since he told me it was not covered by the warranty anymore despite it was just chanced prior to service agreement expiration date. I paid for it and one month latter I had the same problem. When I called him back he told that this was caused by a defect in the cooling system that disintegrates in the inner coil that clogs the compressor and the filter; and that I better throw it out and buy a new one. Then I called another company to confirm his version. The new technician evaluated the unit and told me the compressor was burned again, that the previous compressor was not good, that it was refurbished and that the story of disintegrating inner layers wasnt real. I paid $400.00 again. It worked for 30 days and I had to call the mechanic again since the newest compressor was burned out. He came back twice more and today it is in the same condition. I am really tired and burned out I cannot continue with this refrigerator spending any more money. The original cost was close to $2,000.00 , and I have spent an extra $700.00 trying to fix it up. I have thrown out hundreds of dollars in food during this period. Do you think it is honest and healthy to spend this money for only 70 months of service?

Just before Thanksgiving 2007 I noticed a sheet of ice covering the bottom of the freezer. I called a repairman and spent $300 to have the evaporator fan replaced.

2 weeks later the entire unit went out with no cooling and loud noises. The same repairman returned and said the compressor had gone out. He said that I should call the Maytag warranty service - A&E Factory Service. I had 15 people coming to my home for 4 days for Christmas. Fortunately I have a 25 y/o Kenmore in the garage and the weather was quite cold so were able to put food outside.

It was Jan. 2008 before the compressor was replaced. For the last 6 weeks I have again had water dripping out of the unit onto my wood floor. Today I took everything out and used my hair dryer to remove the 2 layer of ice on the bottom of the freezer. I am sick of this!!

My 6 year old refrigerator (Maytag Plus model mtf2156gew) caught fire. The description -- acrid black smoke billowing from the bottom of the fridge -- frighteningly matches many other descriptions on this site. 5 minutes later, the fridge was spewing the smoke. Whirlpool sent a repairman (on their dime) the next day. He said he'd never seen anything like it. The little box that the wires plug into had melted to ash. There was no property damage, aside from a non-working refrigerator, a stinky smell, and several hundred dollars in lost food, thanks to my husband's quick response.

I'm scared to death of what could have happened had we not been home. Whirlpool is replacing the wires, the compressor, the white box thing, and the motor, and paying for 5 hours of the tech's time to do the work. Crazy expensive for an $850 fridge. When I asked why not just a new fridge so I could sleep peacefully and leave my home knowing the fridge wasn't going to burn down the house, the response was, "Well, ma'am, we're willing to fix this model. If you want a new one, you'll have to pay for half ($426.50)." I asked for assurances that this would not happen again. She merely stated that they could only guarantee the workmanship of the service tech.

I'm keeping all old parts, just in case.

We purchased 3 new Maytag appliances from Home Depot in March 2007. Within months the bottom-freezer refrigerator began freezing food in the crisper and other areas of the frig. After several weeks of throwing out frozen food, I noticed a banging sound that continued until ending with a loud pop which continually went on day and night, loud enough to wake us up. I called the company and they said they would contact our local Maytag repairman and he would be in touch within 24 hours. It took several more calls and a wait of several more weeks before a repair technician came out, and made a small change in the frig, and for a while things seemed to be alright. Soon though the food began freezing again, and the noise started up. So did my phone calls, and promises to send out a repairman. By this time about 8 months elapsed since the purchase and I was anxious to have this resolved before the year was up.

By now the Magtag repair service washed their hands of it I guess, because when I called the Maytag company in early 2008, they said they'd be contacting a different appliance repairman and within 24 hours he'll be calling. A month went by and finally I called him myself. He said, "I haven't serviced your area in 2 years, and Maytag knows that. "So back to calling the company, and threatening to go to Better Business Bureau. Nothing happened, and I continued throwing out frozen food items. Now trying to use the door shelves as a crisper, in an effort to keep fruit and vegetables from freezing.

Finally in frustration I wrote Better Business Bureau a letter and within 2 weeks I had a call from Maytag (now Whirlpool) and Alison ** promised to send yet another appliance repairman out. (Generously, she promised this would be at no cost to us - HELLO??? I should hope not! I've only been complaining for the past YEAR!) He did indeed come (it was now July 2008, 16 months after purchase) and he did a small repair, and said he needed to return with a new damper. He seemed to think the noise was insignificant and ignored it. When he returned a few weeks later with the part, it turned out to be the wrong one. It was now September 2008 and I, in frustration, phoned Alison ** back to once again complain that NOTHING has changed with the problems in my refrigerator. A couple weeks later, I pick up a parcel addressed to me, and there is a new damper for my repair. So it's now up to me to call the appliance repair company back. He comes to install the new damper, and SURPRISE!! It's the wrong one. Now, October 2008, and I'm waiting.....again.

Handle from bottom freezer keeps falling off. Bought in January 2007. ABT came in and replaced the bolts and handle in April 2007 and now it is out of warranty and handle won't stay on. Cost of handle is $27.00 and bolts are extra and I would have to replace it. Maytag refrigerator over $2000.00 shouldn't be doing this.

First I would like to say that we have had Maytag dishwasher for years and love it.. Now the refrigerator. We bought a Maytag Plus about 5 or 6 years ago. It has the worst ice maker we have ever had. The ice jams when we try to get ice out and builds up inside, then we have to open the freezer door to get it loose. When we do this of course the ice spills all over the floor. Sometimes it just has a big clump of ice that stops ice from coming out. We will probably never buy a Maytag refrigerator again because of this.

Bought this new as Hme Depot. Lucky I bought the extended service. First the ice maker went out. Now the whole unit isnt working. Compressor seems to be shot. Less than two years old, and it seems there are alot of complaints on the net about Maytag. Anyway, all my food an frozen items are ruined. I noticed when cleaning the back of the unit, the compressor is made in Brazil. Maytag obviously outsources most of the unit. What a piece of junk.

I will never buy a Maytag product again, ever! My old fridge was about twenty years old an still working, and never a problem. Had to go to H.Depot. At least they loaned me a small unit so I have something for the weekend. Home Depot should not carry any Maytag products. Even the people at the store says they have nothing but complaints.

On or abt. Nov. 1, 2006, I purchased a side-by-side Maytag refrigerator from Home Depot. Less than 11 months later, I discovered that it had stopped cooling and everything in it, including meats & frozen vegetables in the freezing compartment had thawed, were smelling bad, and had to be thrown away.

I called Home Depot and they said it was not their responsibility and I had to call Maytag Repair. I did. They said it would take 10 days to get a repairman out. So much for their famous (and false) TV ads about the Maytag repairman with nothing to do. I told them I needed a working refrigerator. They didn't care. Ten days .. take it or leave it. The repairman showed up on the assigned 10 days later and replaced the defective cooling unit. The warranty was still in effect.

Now, here it is September 2008, less than a year later and the same thing has happened: the refrigerator is not cooling and I've lost everything in the freezer again (It's getting costly to keep replacing meats & fdrozen vegetables!) Apparently the repairman gave me another defective cooling unit ... or Home Depot sold me a lemon. I am just furious about this. Now I will have wait another 10 days and this time the 1-year manufacturer's warranty is over.

Should I have to pay for a defective replacement cooler or demand a replacement refrigerator for this lemon I was sold? I'm at wit's end on this. Can you advise me of my consumer rightd in thid matter? Thank you.

Wasted meat & vegetables. Not being able to put items in the refrigerator for 10 days at a time .. not to mention anger & stress (I'm doing chemotherapy and don't need this stress).

Purchased Maytag MFD 2560 French door refrigerator in Sept 2004. This past weekend Sept 2008 the unit stopped working. Called maytag for service and was told they would be there on Tuesday morning. Called service company tuesday morning and was told they could not be here until Wednesday morning. Called Maytag back they were able to get another authorized repair company to come out tuesday afternoon. I met the repairmen at the house in checked the unit and said the board was bad. I asked him why that would cause the compressor not to run and he stated that the boardssometimes do not allow the proper voltage to the compressor causing the compressor not to run.

He went to a supply house and came back replaced the board and compressor still did not run. He than checked the charge and found the unit had leaked the freon out. He repaired leak and changed compressor out, but instead of charging the system with the original freon (R-134a) he used a differant refrigerant (R414b) I questioned him on this and he stated that the supply house did not have any R-134a and this was the same thing. He than added the wrong refrigerant never evacuating the system or weighing the charge in. He than stated that the capilarry tube was plugged and that he would call the factory for advice. The factory astated that there was a fix kit a whole new evaporator section and capilarry tube replacement. But he would have to drilll holes in the back of the unit to do this work.

I am experienced with Refrigeration having been in the field for 30+ years. I called Maytag again to complain and asked if I could talk to a technician/Enginer. I was firmly told that customers are not allowed to discuss repairs with any one but the authorized repairman. I firmly told them that the work was done improperly and they stated that they would have a technician call the repairman and discuss how to repir the refrigerator.

I again asked to talk with a experienced enginner and was told Maytag/ Whirlpool would not put anything in writing or allow me to discuus this with anyone. My option would be to have another Maytag authorized service company come out ( another service charge to me) and review the situation. All I can say DO NOT BUY Maytag products they do not stand behind there product or services.

I bought a Maytag refrigerator from Home Depot in March 2007. And I started using the refrigerator after my marriage which was late in May. After 3 months later I noticed that the food and water in the cooler were not as cold as before. And I noticed that there was ice building up in back of the freezer part. I thought either my wife or I didn't close the door well. So I melted ice by turning off the machine. It took me serveral hours to remove the ice in the freezer. Right after that it seemed to be working again. But another 3 months later it happened again.

So I called Maytag to find out if there's a way to replace the machine. It's happened after short period of time after the purchase. Maytag said I'll have to get the service. They don't have any service like replacement. Since it's in warranty period I called A&E Fatory service to check the problem.

Technitian came and check the machine and he used hair blower to melt the ice. He said it seems working again. If it happens again he will order parts and replace. And 2 months later I see the ice built in the back of the freezer again. So technitian came and order the parts. It took me almost a month to receive all the parts.

After the parts were replaced, it seemed working ok. But it just took little bit longer(5-6 months) to have ice built in freezer. This time I tried the hair blower to melt down the ice. After I did that, this time it only last a month. So I called the A&E service and made a servoce schdule. This time the technitian called me and said the warranty was over last March so if he comes today then there'll be a charge to check the problem. and he mentioned that there's no such a service like replacement. I'll have to get the service no matter what even if it happens 100 times or 1000 times. It was ridiculous. If i have to get a service every 3~5 months, what's the point to keep this machine. I'm thinking to buy new one instead of paying service charge.

I had to throw away the food and beverages in the cooler every time I got service. I had to have a day off from work to get service the machine. And my wife and I got stressed out over a year dealing with repeating problem.

In August of 2004 we purchased a Maytag French Door refrigerator (model MFD2560HEW) from our local Lowes. This August, 2008, we discovered the refrigerator was not cooling. Luckily we discovered it early and we had an Amana side by side in the basement, mosly used for beer and sodas. We lost a very minimal amount of food. But when we tried to get it fixed, (five year warranty), the real problems started. First I called Whirlpool. They said yes it is covered but we don't service your area.

So I called Lowes. Their service people said they would send someone that could fix it under warranty. Wrong. The guy came and looked, said the compressor had failed. he said actually he would not have had to look, they all fail. Anyway, when I asked about warranty he said he didn't do warranty but could fix it COD. Price on the compressor, $1200, and that wasn't even installed. I figured there must be a way to get warranty repairs so I said no thanks. He said OK, that will be $85.00 diagnostic fee please. So I paid the guy, he's just trying to make a buck.

I then called Whirlpool again, got a customer service person and explained the situation. She apologized profusely, said she would need to take the problem to her supervisors since they had no service where we live (Culpeper County, VA). She promised to call back within 24 hours. As has been noted in some of the other complaints they don't call back. I told my wife they wouldn't if this website was right. They didn't.

Next my wife says 'let's go to Lowes '. So we got the receipt and the manual and off we went. I figured she was fired up so I'd let her do the talking. She got the manager and the appliance guy and they looked in the computer and talked and himmed and hawed. Finally the manager says to go back and pick out a new refrigerator. My wife says, 'bottom line, what's it going to cost me?' Manager says 'nothing'.

So today we received a brand new Samsung, 26 cubic door French door refrigerator. Free! Kudos go to Lowes. The appliance guy said if the manufacturer doesn't step up to the warranty, Lowes will. And they did.

I paid 1300.00 for a cabinet depth fridge. Then on top of that I am out about 500.00 in service charges and parts. I contacted Maytag to see about possible recall. The remedy was to offer me a 15% discount on a top end model ( Maytag, Kitchenaid, Jennair, or Whirlpool). What a hunk of junk! I shouldn't have to purchase a refrigerator every 3 years. About 6 years ago we bought a Maytag Plus refrigerator because we thought Maytags had a good reputation for quality and dependability. We found neither of those to be true though! It seemed to work well for a couple of years, but that's hardly reasonable service from such a promoted quality product. After the first couple of years we had to replace the compressor. We just figured it was a fluke until our recent breakdowns.

Within the past year we had to replace the ice maker unit ($250), the thermostat ($300) and now, just 2 months later it's not cooling again! What's wrong NOW we're wondering? We've already now sunk 1/2 the original cost of the thing into repairs, but is it worth it to fix it once again or just cut our losses and buy something else? We're thinking to DUMP it and start all over with something new. You can bet it won't be another Maytag though...OR Whirlpool, since they now own Maytag.

In addition to the costly repairs, we also lost the contents of our freezer & refrigerator twice in 6 months. All expenses considered, it about totals the cost of the refrigerator to start with...$1500!

Tried to call Maytag, but they were closed. Could not reach them until the following Tuesday due to Labor Day weekend. Maytag has a 48 hour return policy and since I could not contact them(not my fault) they had to repair it.

They had a company come out and said it needed a new compressor. I told them I wanted a new unit and Home Depot(who has bent over backwards to help me) offered a discount if I would just have it repaired. I agreed and when they came out to fix it they found it had zero refrigerant. I told Home Depot to just exchange it at this point. With a refrigerator the leak detection is hit or miss. Home Depot took it back and had a new one sent out. I got the new one on 6/18 and it had the same problem.

A repairman came out and found it also had no refrigerant. I contaced Maytag and they told be basically to have it fixed and they would not do anything else for me. Fortunatly, Home Depot is going to exchange both of my refrigerators out for another brand(anything not owned by Whirlpool). I will never buy another Maytag or any other Whirlpool product and will tell everyone I know about this horrible experience.

My real problem is that last year the evaporator fan went and everything in the freezer thawed out. Thankfully it still had enough juice to keep the fridge cold so the milk wouldn't go bad. $300 later and the issue was solved. Then last month it happened again. Thankfully three days before the year had past so the part is under warranty. This time it will only cost $180 to fix, but the service company that Maytag recommended has changed it's policy to a 90 day part warranty.

Next time I won't be so lucky so I'll just dump it. Ironically I had planned on complaining to Maytag directly, but I can't find an email on the Canadian website. Now we have been without a refrigerator for about two months. So we are in desperate need of a refrigerator. Why, don't I just buy another one? Please help all the consumers who can't afford to spend more money for a new one.

I purchase a Ice20 French Door bottom freezer refrigerator in May of 2007, based on years of advertisements extolling the virtues of Maytag quality and the Maytag repairman. It is very noisy at times and can be heard 3 rooms away and, at times, even upstairs. Maytag sent a service man who told me that the throbbing, buzzing sound accompanied by a higher pitched sound was normal for this $2000 plus refrigerator. Per the manual, I called Maytag customer service who told me nothing would be done, that I was just stuck with a noisy refrigerator.

Apparently, my only recourse would be to replace the unit at my own expense with another brand.

My Maytag refrigerator/freezer will not defrost. the model number is not shown on their website; they list have no MSDS as required by federal law and no refrigerant type listed on the appliance as required by law. There is no help from a live operator, for a year. I am a refrigeration tech, and I consider this item and company to be the worst by all standards.

Hundreds of dollars of food and the refrigerator/freezer sitting unused for a year, are due to Maytag as builder of the appliance.
