December 2006 our Maytag refrigerator, purchased August of 2005, made awful high pitched buzzing and ringing every 30-60 seconds for 15-30 seconds. By the next day the refrigerator and freezer were warming up and destroying the $200 of food I had just purchased the day before.

Since the one year warranty was up (of course!) we had to pay an appliance repair person $121 to come out. He replaced the relay with a Maytag relay and later that day the noise began again. After a few days the noise got louder and more frequent until the freezer shut down and we lost all of our food again. The next morning the refrigerator finally shut down.

The people who after hours answer the phones at Maytag are VERY RUDE!!!! to say the least. They are suppose to be out here tomorrow - we'll see what happens.

We purchased a Maytag Stainless Steel French Door refrigerator (over $1000.00) from Home Depot in April 2005, it wasn't installed until August 2005 when we finished our new kitchen. In October 2006 the unit failed to cool, we finally got a service call in 2.5 weeks and was told it was the compressor which would take a week to order and another week to schedule a repair.

I bought my Maytag side-by-side refrigerator in Feb 2005 and I loved it, for a while. In Nov 06, it completely quit working. I called Maytag, who basically did nothing. I called a local Maytag service company who couldn't come to my house for a week. When they did, they told me the compressor was bad and they would order it. Three weeks later, a guy shows up with a broken compressor (sent from Maytag).

Two weeks later, I call Maytag again, where I get hung up on 3 times, transferred to the wrong department twice, and for 12 minutes listened to a lady dial numbers in my ear over the phone before disconnecting me. Dec. 21, 2006, I finally get a compressor. Dec. 22, 2006 the compressor quits working, all my food goes bad again and I can't do anything about it until after Christmas. My family has been living out of a dorm size fridge that my father happened to have in the garage.

After reading all of these complaints I guess we're in for a long problem. According to Maytag there are only 2 companies in Illinois who can fix my refrig. Well, the first place said they can't. That leaves one place. They won't come to our house. They are called A&E. They are horrible!!! They don't give a care about consumers AND will do whatever it takes to avoid going on appts. So... I am now on day 10 with no refrig. I had to go buy a $300 Home Depot refrig to get by. I can't live out of a cooler any more. This is horrible... horrible... horrible.

I've spent $300 to purchase a new refrig. That's alot for us. I have children who require unusual and unique healthcare as well as a husband who too needs excessive healthcare. I don't have money to throw away. Nor do I have time to toss away either.

We have one of the waterfall version of the Maytag side by side. It is very pleasant sounding, late at night. Even from our BR we can hear the water gently running from the front door down to the floor, through to the basement where it pitter patters. Ha ha, unbelieable. We'd say its all been covered very well, ours is only (4) years old. We've had several floods. We've decided not to fix it any more. We'll run it untill it ruins the food one more time then replace it.

We have put an old old frig back in the garage, it must be 20 years old, no kidding but we put our meat, etc in it and just use the new high end Maytag for soda, milk and beer. What is a good make for replaceing it, we'd like to have the ice/water in door feature again. Thanks, Bristol CT PS, like many we also bought a Maytag Micro, its a piece also, it just goes off, no ligths no nothing. We unplug it, my wife keeps a little stool by the stove so she can reach the plug, it's all unbelivable.

Floor, food, bottom of cabinets and we are now wondering about mold!!! I have asthma !!!!

We purchased a Maytag refrigerator from Lowe's on August 18, 2006. Maytag Stainless - French Door with the freezer in the bottom. We had a service person out twice to this date of November 10, 2006. Last night when we opened the freezer for ice cream, it was more like a milk shake. I couldn't call for service since the Magtag service center was closed until this morning. When I finally did get a real person on the phone, they didn't have a service person available until tomorrow between 6am and 7 pm. The light is on in the refrigerator and freezer BUT the control panel on the outside of the refrigerator has no lights and does not function. My food is rotting and defrosting as I write this.

Maytag doesn't give a care about the consumer. Buy the product and deal with their problems. They will not replace this piece of garbage. I asked the service rep for a phone number for their corporate office and she replied with an address. I asked how a person would get in touch with someone by telephone and she replied with you can't. I guess Maytag/Whirlpool Corporate must work out of their garage? If we ran our business in this fashion we would be out of business. I will find a number for the corporate office and I will get results. This Maytag is less than 3 months old and I need to wait a least 24 hours before some Maytag repair person will be at my door. This is insane. I am a 58 year old woman and I have purchased major appliances since I was 20 years old. I have never encountered such an inferior product. In all these years I have never had a single service call on any of the applicances (none of which were Maytag).

The mental anquish I sustained during my request for service goes far beyond the spoiled food. It's a lose-lose situation.

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator from Sears in June of 2006 and by October 2006, the compressor quit working. I was out a refrigerator for two weeks while waiting for the repairman and part. After the repairman spent 2 and a half hours putting in the new compressor, it appeared to be working again for one whole day before breaking down again. I phoned Connie (the manager) at Sears and told her I cannot afford to keep throwing away all of my food and taking time off of work to wait for a repairman and that I would like a replacement. Lo and behold, the response is dodgey and political and in a round-about way a NO. I now need to repeat this nightmare again of missed work, lost food and headache. I will absolutely NEVER purchase another item from Sears again!

I have two receipts for recently purchased fresh and frozen food. One is from Costco for over $200.00 and the other from Albertsons for over $100.00. This food was spoiled and had to be tossed out. I missed two half days of work at $40.00 per hour (massage therapist at an athletic club) and have another two half days lost pending the next repair. I estimate my lost wages totalling around $650.00. The total loss is around $1,250.00.

I purchased a Maytag Refrigerator in 2000. We have had about 15 service calls on the I/M. My father-in-law purchased a Maytag Refrigerator about 6 months to a year after we did and is having the same problems. I have spoken with the service company and they say that Maytag has had many problems with the icemakers in the refrigerators from that year. I will never buy another Maytag Refrigerator.

The last service call around August 2006 and the guy I spoke to at Maytag said that my appliance had been serviced for the same problem more than 4 times within 1 year and that someone from their LEMON department would be contacting me. No one did. Why am I not surprised. My extended warranty expires in January 2007. The guy from Maytag also told me he could give me my service history on my appliance. Like they had something to hide.

We purchased a Maytag side-by-side stainless steel ice-in-door refrigerator freezer in 2001. It has been nothing but problems.

The ice maker has been replaced three times. The ice-to-door has never worked properly - it makes crushed instead of cubed. The refrigerator side stopped working and the produce drawers constantly have to be replaced because the entire front comes off in your hands and breaks.

Summer of 2003 we purchased a Maytag Elite refrigerator. In December of 2005 the evaporator motor, located in freezer, had to be replaced. The repairman warned me this would happen again.

This part was replaced again in early 2006 and now in September 2006 we are waiting for the part to come in the mail so we can replace it again. Fortunately the repairman was kind enough to show me how to replace the part, so I have no cost in labor.

I thought the Maytag repairman was not a busy man - sounds like job security to me.

Because we have a 20+ Maytag washer and dryer that have never needed a service call we purchased a Maytag side by side refrigerator about four years ago. It is a good thing we purchased the service contract from Sears as they make bi-monthly visits to our home. The design of the side by side is great - lots of usable room inside but something about the ventilation has caused us continual problems. I can not keep lettuce in this refrigerator - have to run it to the one in the basement. The lettuce freezes in the Maytag. Also many items at the top get too cold and freeze. I have it set on a low setting.

Also, there are these plastic covers (that cover wiring) under the doors and they are constantly falling off. It is irritating. MY SISTER-IN-LAW PURCHASED THE SAME SIDE BY SIDE REFRIGERATOR AND SHE REPLACED IT AFTER ONLY ONE YEAR.

My elderly mother purchased a traditional, (freezer on top) Maytag refrigerator in April of 2003 from Sears. Within a few months, she was experiencing water dripping from the freezer door and collecting between the door and gasket. She called Sears in August 2003, they sent a technician. He couldn't find the problem so he told her it was normal. So my mother lived with it, continuing to wipe the door and resulting frozen water accumulating inside the freezer and around the door. In November of 2003 she called an authorized Maytag repairman to have him diagnose the same problem. He also told her it was normal. She gave up trying to get it fixed.

Now she has a freezer door that has rusted through. Maytag customer service told her it was NOT normal for water to be dripping from the door, but that my mother would have to pay $139 to have the problem diagnosed. She told them she did that already, twice, and noone could find the problem. All she wants is a new door ($100). Since it's out of warranty, Maytag won't pay for the service call or new door, even though the problem began and continued during the warrantee period. Since the door costs $100, it will be cheaper just to replace it. I told her to go back to Sears and see if the salesman will stand behind the product (and not just use it as protection from all the disgruntled Maytag customers! Ha! Ha!).

The customer service rep I spoke to on behalf of my mother was rude and had the audacity to say that my mother was lying!! It's obvious Maytag has no reputation to salvage so the consumer is left to fend for themselves. I had been considering purchasing the French door refrigerator with ice/water through the door and the double oven freestanding range, but after reading all the horror stories about Maytag appliances I'll look elsewhere! Thank God for this website. I've checked Consumer Reports and their information is very inacurrate. They should really check websites like this one or have a customer satisfaction link where the consumer can get the true picture of product reliability and service.

We bought a Maytag refrigerator in 2003 and also purchased an expensive extended warrantee with it and it's a good thing we did. In March of 2006 we discovered that the freezer fan that circulates cold air wasn't working and we had to throw out several hundred dollars worth of food. Maytag replaced the fan on our extended warrantee. Then on August 21 of 2006, the same thing happened. As the repairman fixed the problem, he said, and I quote, "It's a good thing you have the extended warrantee. Better keep that up." I asked him if this problem was typical of Maytag refrigerators and he just shrugged. Then on August 23, we discovered the SAME thing had happened because the ice cream in the freezer turned to soup once again. We can't believe that in 3 days, a brand new part went bad! Now I'm waiting for a repairman again.

I don't trust that this problem can be permanently fixed and our extended warrantee is up in January of 2007. This refrigerator is only 4 years old and has given us more problems than any other appliance we've owned in our 30 years of marriage.

My two and half year old refirgerator does not work. Doesn't cool and runs constantly. When it was working it made big clunking noises when it shut off. I had to pay a diagnostic fee of 130.00 just to get someone to come out and look at it. By this time, it was not covered under any warentee but major parts. I can't believe this refrigerator failed so soon. When talking to customer service, they said - parts fail - there's nothing we can do about it and we only stand by those parts for a year. i paid extra for what i thought was maytag quality but obviously, I was wrong. Hopefully things will improve with WHirlpool but i work with both compnaies and don't have much faith in either now.

I will never buy another Maytag product and I'm really hesistant to work with Whirlpool as well. Maybe we have to step up to Bosch. i wish i woudl have looked on this website before I made the purchase. i will now, seeing all the many other ocmplaints about Maytag refirgerators and compressor failing - seems to me it's more than a part here and there - it's poor workmanship and inferior parts which lead to poor quality. My refrigerator broke a week ago and after waiting several days for someone to show up to diagnose the problem it turns out it is the compressor. It isn't even 2 years old! The cost for coming out to diagnose the problem was $191 and I lost well over a $100 in groceries. Now I am paying more on a brand new refridgerator?! We purchased a Maytag Refrigerator in December 2005. After, six months the refrigerator just stopped working - with a food loss of at least $200.

We managed to get Maytag Customer Service to send a tech after 2 days. At first they told us 5 days, and only because we had an emergency response due to medicine that needs to be in a frige. The tech, from Sears, spent 20 min trying to find the problem and then told me that he had to order a part...The ETA on the part? 2 WEEKS. We spent more than $2.5k for their product, and they don't have spare parts to guarantee a speedy repair. I asked the tech, if there was a chance that this could repeat itself...the response, Maytag has a problem with their refrigerator electrcal board, I wouldn't be able to guarantee that the problem won't repeat itself!

Tried to get a straight answer from Maytag Customer Service, about the why they don't have basic spare parts, and they gave me the run around.

We purchased a side by side Maytag refrigerator/freezer Model 2648 in May 2005 and in less than one year the compressor failed. They told us it would take three weeks to get a new compressor. That was fine just get it done.

In the mean time we lost all the food we had in the refrigerator and freezer. They told us to file a claim and it would be handled in 14 days.

We called yesterday and asked when we would get the check for our lost food ($157.25) and were told that they do not handle food claims. They said that we should have anticipated the lost of food and got that kind of coverage when we bought their product! I purchased this new Maytag refrigerator through Sears in the summer of 2003 and have since had three compressors replaced. One of the last visits was a service tech who left an oil leak behind because he failed to properly solder the pipe. The last tech re-soldered the leaking tubing to make it right. Right! It still isn't freezing properly and is running above zero and allowing ice cream products to be very soft. I called Maytag yet again on May 31st, 2006 and it would be another $129.00 for a service call.

My plan is to spread the word at every opportunity, to donate the refrigerator to someone to use for storing soda and to never, never buy any product remotely related to Maytag. I understand that Whirlpool bought out Maytag so now one must be assured that Whirlpool is not Maytag. The service department is an I don't care attitude. I bought a $1500-1600 Maytag Plus side by side with water and ice through the door 6 years ago from Circuit City.

The plastic hinge cover pieces never stayed on, even though the set up men came back out to try to get them to stay on.

The side panel of the main shelf cracked while under warranty, but the repairmen kept cancelling so we just said the hell with it.

About 2 months after that, the water through the door warranty was expired, the ice maker part that pushes the ice through the opening stripped and no longer would push ice out the opening. That also meant the end of crushed ice as well.

Since we had only finished paying for it just over a year before, we really did not have the money to invest into the repair of these "luxury items" and did without. We still could get chilled water through the door, but to stop it from flowing one had to open the other side or the water would keep flowing.

The outside door light would also mysteriously turn itself on after filling a glass with water and we would be unable to turn it off, having to wait at least one full minute before the outside door switches would mysteriously work again.

About 3 weeks ago, and a little over a year after the warranty on the compressor is up, the non-freezer side of the fridge became warm while we were gone for the day. All the food was spoiled and had to be tossed. There went about another 100 bucks. Upon a closer examination, it appeared that the upper left hand corner of the fridge (inside)was frozen. We let that thaw and it seemed that did the trick.

About a week and another 100 bucks in groceries later, I awoke to hear the sound of running water at 4:30 in the morning. The Maytag was pumping out water by the ton , through the door, and it was kind enough to even turn its little light on for us. It swamped my kitchen floor and soaked up into my kitchen cabinets. It took every towel in the house, 2 8 packs of Bounty towels and a squeegee to get all the water out the door. Most of the food in both the freezer side and the regular side was thawed and mushy.

The repairman came and put a new "Brain" in it (computer board) for the fee of $347. Imagine our surprize when nearly the same thing happens a week later. This time, it wasn't the water throught the door controlled by the mother board causing water to once again cascade all over my kiitchen, but the compresser died a sudden death, causing all the ice to melt and to just pour through the door opening, sort of like pouring a gallon or two of water on the floor.

All my calls to Maytag were met with the same company line- they think that 6 years is an "old fridge." I bought this stupid Maytag to replace a cheap Hotpoint purchased in 1971 for around $175-$220 that had ONE service call in all those years.
