We purchased a bottom freezer refrigerator from the Home Depot in 2013 and I am sorry to say this refrigerator does not deserve any stars. Immediately after the warranty was up our refrigerator started leaking all over the floor. The drain clogged and freezes up on the bottom under the freezer. When it becomes full, it leaks all over my hardwood floor. I have now become a slave to this refrigerator. Each week I have to open the freezer and get down on my hands and knees to break up the ice, scoop it out, toss it in the sink. I have spread the word and I hope anyone who reads this does as well. Never buy a Maytag product because not only do they make defective products, they won't own up to it and recall it.

Product: Maytag MFI2665XEM Ice2O 25.5. Bought this refrigerator on Feb. 2013 at Home Depot. Maytag cannot repair the "heat exchanger" as it is a discontinued model. Our only option: Purchase another comparable current model refrigerator with a full price of $2,199.00. It will be sold to us for a discount price of $1,308.00 with free delivery. NJ tax and installation not included. This is a two year old refrigerator with orig over $2000. We had requested for a repair since August 2015. We had spoiled food expenses and rented a temporary refrigerator. Numerous attempts to repair and order the parts to no avail. The excuse is either they ordered the wrong part and eventually was told it's been discontinued. Our warranty was automatically canceled.
We have spent numerous hours with the Maytag customer service and was given a promise to find the part overseas as well to get the appliance fixed. Finally, this morning of November 2, 2015, we were given the final "I'm sorry and this is all we can offer you, to buy another refrigerator from us." It appears that this is a defective model but we have not received any recall letters or warning about it. This needs to be addressed as this is an unacceptable practice and deceiving to the consumers, and certainly unfair for people like us who work very hard to pay for this appliances. We cannot afford another $1500 refrigerator. We are now stuck with this worthless, stainless steel junk in our kitchen.

I have a French door fridge Maytag like everyone else. The bottom freezes over and I have to de-ice it. Now the freezer doesn't want to cool. It's 3 years old. Total piece of junk.

I think that I finally figured out a way around the piece of junk Maytag sold me. I bought a Maytag french door, stainless, yada, yada refrigerator in 2006. When it broke down, see later description, the first several times it was ok because of the warranty. This POS has failed 7 times requiring $300+ to fix every time. When contacted about the issue, the people at Maytag seem happy. The business model is working perfectly. There goes another sucker. The refrigerator begins its eventual breakdown with the door alarm light and sound beeping constantly. Beeping that continues for days and weeks. The next progression to failure continues with it not beeping anymore but now the interior lights do not light when the refrigerator is opened. Finally, the refrigerator stops cooling entirely and it is dead.
Now, Maytag no longer wants anything to do with it so you need to call a repair man. When the repair man arrives, the entire time he talks about what a piece of junk Maytag is. They, every time, at first think it is the switches and replace them. This NEVER fixes the issue. Next, they have to replace the computer brain. $400 to fix. EVERY TIME. Now, at least every year. If you buy Maytag and have a similar experience, get your wallet out. Sell you junk then don't stand behind it.

Fridge model # MSF25D2EAB00. I have had the fridge 3 years and 2/3 shelves have crumbled to pieces, the compressor has gone, the ice bucket crumbled, the ice maker stopped working, once ice maker was fixed it got stuck on crush, and now I am "trying" to order another shelf because it has also crumbled like the rest and this is in a household of 1 person! I am just getting the run around... I have been redirected to 3 different numbers now (800-344-1274, 866-368-6478, and 877-468-2371) and now I had a rude customer service rep so I asked if I could speak with someone else and I am now on eternal rot on hold. Pretty sure he didn't even transfer me and I'm just sitting on hold on his line while he is laughing. Time to hang up and try again another day. #un**believable
I was also told that if I purchased the extended warranty plan that it would cover the crappy shelves in the future so I did and now they are telling me it doesn't cover them and it only gives me a discount on them. MAYTAG YOU OWE ME A NEW FRIDGE... THIS ONE IS A LEMON! I have no clue what my order number is or where my receipt is at the moment but I could get a copy I'm sure because I purchased it on my HomeDepot credit card so if you want it let me know and I will provide it to you then.

A refrigerator has to keep your food at constant temperature. The first Maytag refrigerator I purchased from Home Depot could not get cold. I mean the refrigerator never got below 65 degrees. I called Maytag and they played dumb. Just wait weeks for a repairman to check a brand new product that is not working. Home Depot replaced it in few days with another refrigerator of the same model. It runs but doesn't get really cold (it only has a fan in the freezer and the air comes down from the freezer to cool the refrigerator). I live with it because all you will get out of Maytag/Whirlpool is to turn the dial to a colder temp.
A little over a year passes and the fan in the freezer just stops running. I called a local certified service person. He looks at the fan and says that it's running but barely. I had to replace the motor at cost with labor of around 200 dollars. I kept the motor. Turns out the motor is made by Panasonic. The current replacement motor is made in Mexico. Now the refrigerator runs cold. Since I had two of these refrigerators that failed to get/stay cold, I think they got a bad batch of motors. Maytag response was to refuse to pay a dime, it is outside of the warranty - even though I had called about the refrigerator not getting real cold on the second refrigerator. So basically I lived with food being kept at a way too high of temp causing spoilage for a year and Maytag/Whirlpool could care less, they are only worried about their bottom line.
That is not the only problem with their product. The drain pan grows a mold that looks like pudding. The only way to clean it is to pull the refrigerator out, take off the motor area cover (which is really cheap cardboard) and clean it out with a rag. There is no way to remove the pan. The compressor is mounted so low that it heats up the floor. I have concrete floors thus I have no fire risk but if you have wood floors, I would check the heat level. It is nearly impossible to clean the dust off the fins on the refrigerator coolant lines. The back of the freezer door shelves are metal and very sharp on the back. Thus if you stick your hand in to pick something up, you will get a nasty cut.
I have owned only Maytag, Whirlpool and Amana products my entire life. I will never purchase their products again. They may pretend that you are buying an American product (they use the American flag) but this product is nothing but OEM garbage made by the lowest bidder. They try to sell you an extended warranty for around 300 bucks for an addition 3 years. I figured if the fridge went bad after 3 years, I would just buy a new one. I never expected a motor to fail less than a year (I would say it started going bad about 6 months into ownership as started making ice at a lower rate). Maytag refuses to stand behind their products. When I told them I had the motor that failed, they had no interest in even looking at it. Do not waste your money on their products. I also own a Maytag washer that is the worst washer I have ever owned.

We purchased this freezer (Maytag Model MZF34X16DW) from a local Home Depot store. We were told that it could be returned within 48 hours if there were any problem. The freezer was delivered and we were unloading the instruction book, etc from the inside when my husband discovered there was a problem with the door seal. We contacted Home Depot right away.
Days later and many phone calls to Home Depot and the Maytag service center they finally agreed to pick up the defective freezer. Home Depot asked if the delivery team inspected a replacement thoroughly would we accept a new one and we agreed to do that. A few hours later we receive a call from Home Depot stating that Maytag would not send out another freezer that the old one would have to be returned and we would have to wait for a refund and then if we want another freezer we have to go back to Home Depot and buy another. We have since located numerous complaints online about the same problem with this freezer. We are taking the fact that Maytag is not going to issue a replacement for the defective one as a good thing.

Purchased a Maytag side by side MSB27C2XAM00 in June 2014 to replace a 20 year old Kenmore. After 14 months the fridge stopped keeping things cold in the food compartment and in the freezer. And, the water and ice dispensers stopped working. Called Maytag and they confirmed the fridge was 2 months past the warranty and the best they could do was offer an extended one-year warranty for $325 and set up an appointment. I declined and called a local repair company. They responded promptly and discovered the problem was a bad board.
Had to replace the board at a cost of $475 (parts and labor). It was $150 more than the extended warranty but I was already in the hole for $100 service call and I was able to get the fridge repaired on the spot. I had the Kenmore for 20+ years without one repair. Maytag was good for one year and 2 months. Don't know how this company will last with a $2000 product that lasts a year. I can not recommend this product and advise anyone in the market for any appliance to avoid Maytag products.
Updated on 11/20/2015: After the board was replaced, the fridge worked but was not keeping either of the side by side compartments cold. They were cool but not cold. Repairman returned. Said it was the compressor which needed to be repaired/replaced. Maytag said the compressor was under a 10 year warranty unlike the other parts of the fridge. Good news, Maytag covered the cost of the part / but bad news that it broke after 14 months of use. However, the service people told me the cost of the compressor was the smallest part of the repair. Labor and service would be costly and I'd be better off getting a new fridge with a 5 year warranty contact.
After I got over the initial shock of having to toss a 14 month old fridge that cost $1500 and complaining to Maytag, I went to Lowe's and found a replacement fridge. This time it was not a Maytag. Moral of the story stay away from Maytag. Don't be fooled by the brand. Avoid them at all costs. And purchase a fridge with a 5yr+ warranty contact!

Shortly after purchasing my Maytag refrigerator had to pay for a new motor in the ice maker. The cover for the lower large food tray broke. Now approx. 4 years later am getting ice build-up on the bottom of the lower freezer unit, about one-half inch thick. It is enough so the freezer door won't seal when it closes and the inside builds up with frost. Not happy with Maytag or this refrigerator.

I bought a Maytag refrigerator, model MBF2258XEW, March 2013. Bottom freezer, single door. The past 3 or 4 weeks I have been noticing water occasionally puddling on the floor at the freezer. The ice maker has never been hooked up, with no problem before now. I recently noticed that my wood floor is darkening in a spot that often gets wet. After reading some of these complaints it appears I am not alone experiencing water problems with something that is sold on its reputation for being trouble-free. I also see that I should expect to pay a few hundred dollars out of my pocket to fix the problem. Very disappointing.

NEVER in my opinion buy or do business with Maytag. I will never again. The customer service is terrible. Next the product design is defective in that it allows moisture and air to seep out of the fridge to cause black mold to form in the seal folds, the center bar and top where that bar connects and on the seal of the bottom freezer top. There is no way either stop it nor get it totally cleaned. It just keeps returning because the French door design does not fit or seal correctly. Also the misfit doors cause the ice to shoot out to the side and not down and forget the noise of banging caused by the ice maker. Maytag won’t do anything about that either. The French door may look nice but it’s a horror.
Stick to the original designs. Quality NO LONGER EXISTS in American manufacturing and there is even less in imports. Today it’s buy at your own risk and once you pay top dollar it screw you for any recourse on their part for defects. A 3 year old fridge has been a horror and I can’t be the only one with such seal problems. Obviously I am not the only one with MAYTAG problems. A class action suit against this company needs to be seriously considered along with the same against other because manufacturers have now taken full advantage of consumers.

We purchased a Maytag MFI2670XEW6 french door/Bottom freezer refrigerator in July of 2012 through Home Depot and for the past 6 months have had to scrape ice off the bottom of freezer every 5 days or so to prevent water flowing on floor. I see so many exact complaints from people that I am just fuming! Cannot believe this company is not backing their products up with that issue. A recall should most definitely been done. I grew up believing Maytag was top of the line but I am wrong. I bought this to replace a 16 year old GE refrigerator (side by side) which I never had any problem with and now I regret not replacing it with another GE.
I haven't contacted the company yet as I thought I would check complaint reviews before I did that but it seems that the company is just treating their customers like dirt. To spend $2200 for a refrigerator and have problems within the first 3 years is unacceptable!!! They had better start going good on this problem or face the fact that they will no longer be in business a short time down the road. The best form of advertising is word of mouth and online reviews and it looks like they are going to lose a lot of customers with the direction they are taking.

Just got off the phone with Whirlpool Customer Care after getting the run around between parts and customer service for most of the morning. My issue is with the shelving on my MSF25D2EAS01 Maytag side-by-side refrigerator. The plastic surrounding the glass shelving is disintegrating and they are not admitting to a defective design only that the original part has been "obsoleted" and a new one is available for purchase (an over $300 expense to replace three shelves) on a unit that is just over 2 years old. I am willing to bet the old part has been replaced with a different design after they realized a substantial number of customer complaints.
As an engineer, it is obvious to me that these shelves are poorly designed for their intended purpose, furthermore my work allows me to recommend appliance brands for large projects so I see no reason to recommend Whirlpool or any of its subsidiary brands (Kitchen Aid, Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air) to any of our clients. Whirlpool quality and customer service is substandard and no better than any imported brand of appliances.

My refrigerator outer case has felt very warm to the touch at the section between the top freezer door and the lower refrigerator door for several years. I thought this was a normal function of the defrost mode. It is now very hot to the touch so that I cannot touch it for more than a few seconds. I don't know how long it has been like this. This cannot be normal. I did some online checks and found that there was a Consumer Product Safety Commission Recall release #09-145 and 09-322 that warns about the same problem I am having. My model # (MTB215) matches the recall, however, the last two characters in my serial # is "WQ" does not. This problem appears to be very consistent with the problem in the recall releases.

Maytag side-by-side fridge with water/ice dispenser (Model # MSD2572VEW00) was purchased in 2011. Mechanically, fridge is working, however, every piece of plastic inside the refrigerator section (the regular glass shelves with plastic rims, vegetable bins, and door ban shelves) are all cracking and falling apart. Additionally, the buttons on the ice/water dispenser fell off, exposing the actual buttons on the panel. All three of the regular sized shelves have severe cracks in the plastic that affect the sturdiness of the shelf. Both vegetable drawers are badly cracked, falling apart and one doesn't even stay secure on the track. Even all three of the door ban shelves are cracked with fractures along the sides and bottom. We've resorted to putting clear packing tape just to hold the shelves together.
We contacted Whirlpool, who owns Maytag and because our fridge is 4 years outside of the 1 year warranty, they could do nothing for us. In over 30 years of owning refrigerators, this is the first time I've seen every shelf and bin crack the way this fridge has and in less than 5 years no less! Whirlpool's solution to our issue was to send my call to their Parts Department.
The total cost to replace all the cracked shelves, bin drawers plus the ice/water dispenser panel is $702.28. No thanks, that's as much as a new fridge. Whirlpool should be utterly ashamed of their total lack of Customer Satisfaction by distributing such a piece of junk. Who would have thought that an appliance costing a couple hundred dollars would be considered as disposable as an aluminum pan and in only 5 years! One thing is for sure, I will certainly think carefully again on ever buying another Whirlpool product again since they are so apt to take my money only for me to repurchase an expensive appliance again in less than 5 years.

We didn't buy the extended warranty because we have owned a few refrigerators and all have lasted just fine for 15+ years with no problems. So I called Maytag. They said for a charge of $369.95 they would schedule a repair and would cover the service call, parts and repair and provide an 12 month warranty.
If the service call results in an inability to repair the refrigerator, they will refund the full amount of $369.95. So I asked if Maytag would then replace the refrigerator, and the rep said we have to start with the service call before they would discuss any type of refund or replacement. This is the worse designed product. The gaskets on the door keep making mold. The "end caps" that hold the "pantry lid" keeps snapping off, had to replace them twice. It is a very elaborate and complicated installation which of course they will not cover. The water dispenser is inside the left side of the fridge and the water runs so slow, that you lose a lot of the refrigeration by the time you fill a glass.
This appliance is very noisy. The customer service is sometimes nonexistent. I called on 9-16, I waited 24 min on the line and decided to hang up. The next day I tried again after 15 min they hang up on me. I tried again later got Customer service, but no they could not help me with installation of a replacement for a warrantied part that snapped off for no reason at all. Purchased an expensive brand new home which had Maytag appliances in it. After about 1 1/2 years the freezer bottom began to constantly freeze and drip onto my floor. I researched the issue and found it was common, simply thaw the area where it freezes. Did it multiple times, we do not overfill our freezer etc. We must take the ice out of the bottom every 4-5 days. My hardwood floors are destroyed now. We purchased a Samsung fridge freezer bottom when they first came out years ago, had it for 7 years, 0 issues, but it went with the house. Now my Maytag oven door is locked shut, also it takes a very long time to boil water. Maytag junk. I am going to buy another Samsung fridge tomorrow.

We purchased a Maytag Refrigerator-Freezer from Home Depot, in July, 2014. The first two months we had this appliance, it would not make ice (we purchased one that had an ice maker it the freezer!). After numerous calls to Home Depot and about 7 service visits, the service company gave up trying to get the ice maker to work, and instructed Home Depot to give us a replacement refrigerator. The new one came with an ice maker that works some better, but still very slow in making ice, and the new refrig makes a grinding noise every time we open the door. The Maytag Company, whose service people never have anything to do, say this is a "cosmetic problem," and they refuse to fix it.
Have been in consultation with Whirlpool Company (who bought out Maytag I assume), trying to get the appliance repaired... or at least put an end to the grinding noise. We paid a lot of money for this refrigerator freezer, and have had nothing but trouble and issues with it. If you are thinking about buying a Maytag refrigerator -- Don't!!

We had the same problem that everyone is complaining about re: frozen water in bottom of freezer dripping out onto floor. Swore when I got rid of the Maytag smooth top stove that broke after 5 years that I would never get another Maytag but broke down and bought this fridge. Maytag rep made it clear that the Fridge had a NOTE on file about the drain, but it was NOT a product recall. So after virtually taking the freezer apart before the repairman came, we ended up paying $120.00 for the repair, not the part. Yippee. Please note that the repairman told us we "saved" a lot of money by taking apart the freezer so most repairs probably cost a lot more than ours.

Approx four months ago we got new stainless steel Maytag fridge, stove and dishwasher. Terrible, terrible, terrible. The dishwasher rack was broken, and the parts are plastic and hardly any room on the racks. The fridge had the wrong hinges and doors on them. We have been waiting for four months to have them replaced. Today we checked with Maytag and still not coming. The fridge makes a very loud humming noise it almost shakes the floor. This was some sort of compressor problem. Now the fridge is having problems with the freezer. It is freezing up with frost everywhere. The stove is terrible. I waited an extra month to get a convection oven which I have had before and this one is terrible. The double oven is a great feature if they work. They take forever to heat and if you do anything with the food you have reset the temperature?
The top is the worst for cooking as the only one that works fast is the boost but then it slows down and you have a hard time cooking the food. The black top is very very hard to clean. I have owned a Maytag washer and dryer for the last 34 years. They have been excellent. Since Whirlpool took over Maytag they seem to have run the name into the ground and all the good service and products they had built up are now ruined. I told my neighbor a few years ago to buy a Maytag washer and dryer and they did. They have had nothing but trouble and are now having to buy new ones but not Maytag. It is a shame that with all the technology that Maytag has built up over the years is now gone. If you look at all the terrible reviews I don't think Whirlpool will be in business much longer with products and service like this.
I still have a fifties fridge for pop and beer and it is the best fridge ever with no problems and my last fridge in my garage, that I replaced with this Maytag is still better than this new fridge. The service man that came to fix the fridge said we had to build in the fridge to keep the noise down. How come they never had problems with Maytag products years ago. I feel it's all about the almighty dollar. They only last a few years and you have to buy expensive warranty. If you made them properly you would not need warranty and they would last for years like before. If anyone knows if there is a class action suit against these companies let me know since all of us should not be ripped off and costing us time and money.

After cleaning and disinfecting the fridge and throwing out all of the food I found that the smell was just as bad as before. When I checked online I found that Maytag owners have been complaining about the smell for over a decade now. It is caused by a poorly installed drain pan. I can honestly say that my Maytag refrigerator is indeed the worse appliance that I have ever purchased. This is how it rolled... I bought a new Maytag stove, frig, microwave, and dishwasher in June of 2006. Here is what I am now dealing with... the frig went on the fritz 2 years ago (warranty expired). The problem being the freezer would not automatically defrost. Because of this the coils would ice up and this prevented the cold air from moving from the freezer into the frig part. Things remained frozen in the freezer, but everything became warm on the other side, the frig side. I had it repaired about a year and a half ago to the tune of $165. Then about 6 months ago the problem reoccurred, but instead of paying for another repair I figured out that if I used my blow dryer I could defrost the ice from the coils on my own.
Unfortunately, the problem reoccurs more frequently now and I have to manually defrost the coils almost every week. This past weekend things finally came to an end as no matter how many times I manually defrosted the coils, it would be fully iced up again with an hour or so. Also, all the time it is acting up it just sucks up electricity, and I have notice a spike upwards on my energy bill. It must be related to the frig. So, I bit the bullet and bought a used frig on craigslist just to hold me over until I have time to do research on what appliance brand is indeed reliable. I should of done this before I bought my Maytag appliances from Home Depot. As far as my other Maytag appliances, here is their current condition. Microwave about the stove: the handle broke off a little less than 2 years after purchase. Stove: now has rust on the front of stove, at the bottom of the stove which is a pull out drawer.
Dishwasher: not working at all. The start button doesn't work. Normally, you just push the button and a green light comes on and it begins the first cycle. This is no longer happening and no green light comes on. Refrigerator: Took it to the dumps this morning to be recycled. Can't believe it, all of these appliances are nothing but crap and I will never purchase another Maytag. I have shared my experiences with all my family and friends and have encouraged them to avoid Maytag, as it is not even close to being the product it used to be. Another piece of junk coming from somewhere other than here in the USA. We lose jobs here in the US, and then end up buying the goods from another country that makes inferior products. How stupid can we get!

The problem started before one year when my wife saw some leakage of water on floor in the front side under the fridge freezer door. In the beginning, this was occurring once a month or every two weeks, so she didn't think it would be a problem or it might happen occasionally.
However, the water leakage now became worse and almost every day. We had to put a towel permanently under the freezer door to dry the water which appeared ugly. Also, I had couple of accidents that my child slide over because of that water leakage. I spoke to one technician, he told me resolving this type of problems is not guaranteed because the problem will appear again or after while. He said this could be a manufacturing defects in this type of Maytag fridge models!!! Another problem appeared also one year ago, that one of the door handle started to shake very little, but now it looks like moving from its position and there is no way to fix it!!!
Therefore, when I requested the help from Leon's they told me that, "You didn't buy the extended warranty and we can't do anything for you!!! You can talk directly to Maytag." Then, I send email to Maytag explaining the problem. They even didn't bother to reply or call me. Now, I feel that I was bluffed by these companies. I asked him to stay till it turned on and he said he could not stay any longer. I waited for him from 2 PM till 7:30 PM. He was to arrive between 3 and 6. Talk about frustration, and I only wish I had read all the reports before I bought this junker. I was so worried I decided to get the insurance for 4 years.
The reason the ice forms is because you have no control over the ice. You can't see them and they get stuck. I had a side by side before this, and I can kick myself for not buying a side by side again. I was told to "shut it it down when you've had enough ice cubes, to stop it from getting stuck". At the same time I bought the fridge I bought a Maytag top load HE washer and a drier. I had to throw out the washing machine last year. It would have cost me too much money to fix it. I was so excited to have such a beautiful refrigerator and new kitchen...but shortly after it started freezing on the bottom of freezer and leaking all over. My new floors and kitchen cabinet are ruined. Every other day we have to break up ice and clean it out from freezer.. it still then leaks.. several family members have slipped and hurt themselves. Please if anyone knows how to get it fixed without it costing us a fortune let us know. Maytag (Whirlpool) knows it is a defect... Why will they not fix it? I can't afford a new refrigerator and shouldn't have to after only two years.. If a class action comes up.. please contact me. Shame on them...

The water drainage tube on the Maytag Refrigerators is DEFECTIVE and needs to be replaced during manufacturing of the appliances!!!!!!! The existing drainage tube kit in the appliance has a very tiny opening for the water to drain and what was not factored in during this manufacturing of the refrigerators was bacteria and dirt build up from the water draining to CLOG this very TINY opening in the existing drainage tube system. This results in the water having no place to drain except causing an ice build up in the freezer and then water draining onto the floor when it has no where to drain in the appliance.
I am told by my reputable Maytag repairman, who also needed the same repair, that replacing the water tube drain #W10619951 occurs with customers 4-8 times PER WEEK in his practice. This is obviously an ONGOING defect that Whirlpool is IGNORING and needs to be addressed and corrected with some type of compensation for its customers. The service call and the replacement of the drain tube kit #W10619951 cost me $122.31. My Maytag refrigerator with a bottom freezer is less than 3 years old.
Amazing also if you google MAYTAG refrigerator leaking water there is a MULTITUDE of youtube videos and websites instructing the consumer on HOW to replace this part in the refrigerator. Obviously there is a strong need for this instructional information to the consumer for this repair since it is an ONGOING PROBLEM that has not been addressed legally with manufacturer. Action needs to be taken. I am saving the original part that was removed from the appliance in case a class action remedy is necessary to correct this costly defect in the Maytag Refrigerators.

I made the mistake of buying a Maytag fridge and dishwasher when I moved into my home 16 years ago. I've had nothing but trouble with these inferior appliances since almost day one. The seals on the freezer quickly started to separate, causing ice chunks and insufficient temperatures. We had an extended warranty, but they refused to replace it. We've had that fixed approximately 10 times - never resolved it. The plastic covering on the dishwasher racks began to peel early on, which caused the metal underneath to rust, in turn causing the "clean" dishes to come out with little rust flakes all over them. This company obviously cares only about profits. Save yourself a ton of headache and DO NOT BUY MAYTAG.

Same problem as the others on this site and undoubtedly thousands of other consumers that bought a similar refrigerator freezer combo only to discover puddles in front of the unit and a 1" thick slab of ice under the freezer drawer. I contacted Maytag parts and when I described the issue he transferred me to warranty. The warranty department acknowledged this was a known problem and they would supply the part, no charge for the part but I would have to pay the serviceman to install it. They would not however, send the part to me to install. The unit is out of warranty, of course it develop the problem until right after the warranty expired. I plan to examine the drip pan and figure out how to improve on the design myself. I will not replace any appliances with Maytag, Whirlpool, Kenmore, or any other major appliances from this group of companies... Beware!

Called a repair man he says he doesn't know why it's shocking probably is the manufacturer's fault as well as the defect causing it to freeze up and leak. I call Maytag and the guy doesn't seem to care that my 7 year old has been shocked and says unplug it and I will just need a new fridge. I already spent the money on the new fridge. Why should I have to go buy a new one now after 2 years, that I can't afford. It's ridiculous how many other people are having problems. It's a defect and should be recalled and they should have replaced the crap fridge they sold me in the first place.
You would think for such a big company they would do something but yet people are getting seriously injured and this seems like it should be taken to court for a lawsuit. It is worthless. Repairman, Maytag Certified, says that it appears to be internal problems and probably come from the factory that way. He suggested I contact Maytag directly and they should be able to make things right for me and my family.
So, I called, sat on hold for 10-15 minutes, and was finally connected to a customer service employee. I explained all that I knew about the problem, she pulled the repairman's notes and the notes of the technician that had spoken with the repairman. After reviewing the file, she informed me that my 2-year-old refrigerator was out of warranty and there was nothing that could be done.
What ever happened to American Made companies standing behind their product? I didn't spend $2000 on a refrigerator that would last me 2 years. I expected 7-10 years, AT LEAST! I expected a company with the name MAYTAG to show some shame for creating a piece of junk and charging a customer this much money for something they know is obviously flawed from the factory. Shame? No. Guilt? None whatsoever.
Caution to those considering a Maytag product. Run away! Go find a more reputable company. Go find a company who views customer service and quality products as a priority. I didn't purchase the cheapest refrigerator on purpose. I paid extra for American made and what I thought was a quality product sold by a quality company. Reality has now set in.

My washer and dryer even made it through the fire and are still going now 14 years after the fire. They are 34 years old. The other appliances I purchased were a chest freezer, dishwasher, stove, and, a refrigerator totaling around $2,000, a pretty sum in '95. I have nothing but good to say about the freezer and the dishwasher, however, the refrigerator and stove stick me in the side every time I look at them.
I purchased a smaller refrigerator than I had planned because I was PROMISED that the refrigerator was designed to hold the milk in the door. Went like this and I finally told him like I told him at first "I do no want this refrigerator! You said and the pamphlet says it is capable of holding a gallon of milk in the door. It does not. It can't even hold catsup bottles without breaking. That's when he told me that yes, they were having an issue with this refrigerators door shelves.
He then gave me the rest of the shelf ends he had and said after that they were gone, they had discontinued them. Also said I was past the days to trade my refrigerator. I told him that was because he kept stalling me, ordering parts. LEMONS AND LIES. Now the refrigerator sits in my laundry room, freezes food in either section on its own whim, and the shelves are held on with DUCT TAPE. When our ice maker (Model # MF12269VEM10) stopped working, we contacted Maytag, only to be told that the 1-year warranty had expired. So we had no recourse but to contract a repairman. He replaced the valve (and in the process, because of Maytag's decision to use plastic tabs instead of screws, the tabs for the filter housing broke off in his attempt to reach the rear of refrigerator where the valve went and we had to pay to have the housing replaced, also). The new valve did NOT fix the problem. Water continued to run out of the water dispenser after you removed your glass. We re-contacted the repairman who returned and proclaimed that there was air in the lines and it should work itself out over the next several days. Yet that night, I noticed drops of water running down the control center and filling the drip tray. I placed a towel on the floor and emptied the drip tray several times that night, before turning off the ice maker completely the next day.
Unhappy with the original repairman, we contacted another who came out and discovered that the new valve was leaking from the top. That is when the filter housing broke and we had to use duct tape to hold it in place while the new repairman ordered a replacement. He tightened the valve and cycled the ice maker several times only to discover that the water overflow switch on the ice maker wasn't working, thus water was overflowing into the ice maker container. He turned down the water pressure to the refrigerator, and we tested it again. All seemed to be well until the next day when no ice was released from the ice dispenser. When I removed the ice storage bin, I found everything frozen from water overflow. I turned off the ice maker entirely and contacted the repairman, who ordered a new ice maker, which took about a week.
After the new ice maker was installed, along with the new filter housing, the repairman cycled the unit several times before leaving. Yet by the next day, the ice in the storage bin was frozen in place again (I have pictures), and we contacted the repairman who ordered yet another ice maker. It took yet another week for the part to come in. After it was replaced, I monitored the ice container each time I heard ice drop into it. The 1st time there were a few drops of water in the bottom of the ice maker. The 2nd time, there was a 1/4 cup of water in the bottom. I immediately contacted the repairman to let him know and turned off the ice maker yet again.
I find it hard to believe that a new valve, fresh from the package, and 2 (TWO) ice makers, fresh from the box, were all faulty. The repairs started on February 25th 2015. It is now March 21st and the ice maker is still not repaired. The 2nd repairman is doing his own research into the problem (for which we applaud him!) and now we ask you for your feedback as to the problem and how it can be solved.

You're already paying twice the amount to get one cause of credit issues. But that's no reason to double screw someone or should I say triple cause you getting doubled the rental company alone. They need to recall this refrigerator. It has been a lot of complaint and they want to tell you to go behind the refrigerator unstop a line. I never thought in less than 3 years my fridge would stop working. I called Maytag, first question from them was about warranty. So I knew I was screwed. So, basically for $300 they would come out and fix the problem. I only paid $800 for the fridge. I am lost as to why in 3 years my fridge is broke?? Makes no sense to me. So I paid a tech $100 to tell me what was wrong with it. The evaporator is leaking. It is leaking. So the evaporator is bad and I cannot fix myself. So for another $300 they would fix, so a total of $400 in an $800 fridge.
I am pissed. I remember my parents having a fridge for over 25 years. Why does Maytag not take responsibility for their problem. The products we buy should last longer than 3 years. It is just a way for them to get us to buy another product. So needless to say, I am one pissed off customer. So let the emailing and letter writing begin.

OK, LAWYERS -- Where are you?!! You have a lot of very unhappy people who feel they have been justifiably TAKEN! Whirlpool needs to replace these refrigerators with another brand! We bought same bottom freezer Maytag refrigerator in 2010. Luckily, which we don't usually do, we purchased a five year warranty plan. Within six months we noticed the rubber seal on our refrigerator on the french door part was turning yellow and then getting darker. We feared something was burning the rubber. A Maytag repairman looked at it, called Whirlpool, told them that there weren't enough parts to fix this refrigerator. Whirlpool asked him what they should do and he told him it should be taken out on the front lawn and "burned" (yeah for that repairman)!!
Whirlpool agreed to replace the refrigerator with one, very similar but a new model #. Thank heavens, after our insistence, the warranty was extended to the new one. Now after about three years, we are having the same problems that all of you are having with the next one.. Our Home Owners insurance adjuster just gave us a settlement to have all the ceramic tiles removed, which are cracked in almost two dozen places, and whole floor replaced (minus our $1,000 deductible). The floor was put in new three years ago. The refrigerator repairman is next to come out. From what I have just read about all the complaints on this refrigerator, NOTHING is going to fix this problem short of replacing it at our expense.
My advise to everyone --- FIGHT THIS. Write to Whirlpool (not Maytag -- Whirlpool owns it), and blast them over and over with letters and complaints and threats of lawsuits. Why should we be taken for that amount of money while Whirlpool does nothing but keep it. A class action suit is badly needed. Big corporations should not be able to take people over like this and get away with it. If it takes a lawyer willing to take on a class action suit, this is it! In the meantime, bombard Whirlpool with letters and don't stop! It takes persistence, but in the end -- most of the time, we will prevail. Big companies hope we will give up and go away. They count on it. Don't let them win!!! I have had a Maytag washer and dryer for twenty years with no problems. Problem is that Maytag doesn't exist anymore -- who is making this....?

Bought a 2400.00 refrigerator 1 year and 4 months ago. The freezer quit working and we lost everything in the freezer. We called and were out of warranty. The commercial on tv shows the bored repairman who never has any work because Maytag is so reliable. What a crock! We are going to have to pay for the labor which could be as high as 800.00. This is so wrong. This is a high end refrigerator and the fact that it only lasted a little over 1 year is unbelievable. I would dump it if I could afford to. It is a piece of junk. I will never ever buy Maytag again. Make a new commercial, one where the repairman is so busy he works 24/7. We got screwed by Maytag. They do not stand behind their product, they rob you blind.

Fixed under warranty. 9 months later the same thing. I had to pay $190. Now, it has been happening for 6 months, and I use a spatula to lift the sheet of ice out. I have to do this every 10 days, or it leaks onto the floor, tile and rug in my kitchen. This is just wrong. I see I am not the only one. It's an old story with Maytag. We purchased a refrigerator in Nov 2012. Three days ago we noticed the refrigerator was making a constant buzzing sound and that the freezer was not cold. A repairman confirmed our suspicions. Bad compressor! Cost to repair, $729. And, the warranty on the new compressor was only 90 days. Cost for a new one $1700. Contacted Maytag. "We do offer extended warranties (up to 10 years on compressors) on some models, but not yours." So, we will get a new one but with the extended warranty. It won't be a Maytag.

I bought my first Maytag French Door fridge about 7 years ago. When it was two it started running water on the floor. I paid a service guy to tell me a tiny little drain in the back clogged up and stopped coil defrost water from draining out. He fixed it. A year later, the fridge stopped cooling but the freezer was cold. I hired another service man who charged me a mint to diagnose that a fan that blows cold air up into the refrigerator failed. Rather than pay him again, I ordered the part.
Here's the joke--the part wasn't available. An older part was substituted. Why? The first fan motor was small to make the energy start requirements--but it was too weak to be reliable. The new motor was an earlier model--almost twice as large and powerful. So much for Energy Start. At exactly 5 years and six months, the compressor went out. I'm on year two with the new one. I said to myself they can't all be that bad. Now it is leaking on the floor. I have to disassemble the freezer, remove the inner wall, defrost the coils and clean out the drain hole. Wouldn't smart engineers make an easy way to do that from the back? Seems simple.

The Maytag Refrigerator Model #MFF2558VEW2 I purchased from Sears is a lemon. I've had problems with the freezer getting a sheet of ice, under the storage basket. The ice starts melting, and pours out on the floor. I have to remove everything from the freezer basket, remove the sheet of ice, and mop the floor. I've had problems with a great deal of noise coming from the unit as well. The unit has now stopped working completely.
I called Maytag at 1-800-253-1301, and spoke with customer service. I was informed of a faulty part, in the freezer. I received the part in the mail, and a phone number of their contracted repair company. The repair man charged me $166.00 to install the part, and informed me the digital control board needed to be replaced as well, for an additional $170.00. I called Maytag again...they said nothing could be done about it. I've had the refrigerator for 3 1/2 years, and had all these problems for over a year. I'm not going to invest over $300.00 to repair a faulty product. Maytag should stand behind their products, and at least furnish the parts, or replace the unit, with something that actually works.

In October of 2012 we bought a Maytag Refrigerator Model MFF2258VEM. In the spring and summer of 2014, we noticed puddling on our kitchen floor. We thought it was our dishwasher or sink since the $1800+ fridge was new, but couldn't find the problem. We travel a lot and are gone for extended periods. When we returned in winter of 2014, we discovered that there was substantial puddling and found a sheet of ice in the bottom of the freezer compartment. We did research and found that this is a common problem with all the bottom-freezer Maytag models, which then leak.
We discovered that the leak had seeped into our kitchen sub-floor and was destroying all of our kitchen floor tile, causing cracking and breaking, a renovation of just a few years previous that cost a lot of money. There was NO problem with the floor until we put in this Maytag refrigerator. The remedy for the leaking is constant maintenance and a lot of work, totally ridiculous for a product that costs so much. I want to sue Maytag for both replacement of the refrigerator and the cost of replacement of my tile floor. Can someone please advise? Thank you.

Internet stated refrigerators should last a minimum of 13 yrs and up. Mine is less than 5 yrs. old, a Maytag 25 cu. ft. French Door Bottom Mount Ref. with freezer on the bottom (MFF2558VEW). Had to replace upper gasket in less than 1 yr. of purchase and needs another now (not affecting the sealing aspect on doors, more aesthetic on upper door thin flap that tears easily).
Drain plug & configuration for drain was a known manufacturers defect, but cost me money to replace as 3 yr. extended warranty expired. Lower gasket had to be replaced in yr. 4 of ownership, bottom of freezer was producing a sheet of ice that needed removal every week. Normal settings is #3 for both top and bottom, worked fine for 4 yrs at this setting.
Last month irregular cooling started to occur- top down to 52 degrees and bottom freezer below -20 degrees - ice cream hard as rock, have to defrost each time in microwave. Maytag repairman said could find nothing wrong, but try emptying entire contents and unplug for 24 hrs. I could hear pieces of ice melting and dropping throughout the evening. Next morning towels I had put around frig were saturated with water. Restarted frig after 24 hrs. and was working fine for 5 wks.
This week same exact problem returned so I did the same thing only this time I had to go out and buy a small chest freezer as I had a full one in my Maytag and no place to put frozen food. It is nearing 24 hrs. and no water has appeared on the floor nor did I hear any ice melting and dropping - so don't know what to do. Will call repair man again and see what he suggests. As soon as I can afford another $1400 frig (this was on sale for $1,002 after discounts, but I will buy a less expensive one this time) I will purchase another brand with NO French doors and no bottom freezer.
I loved my frig the first 3 yrs. under warranty, but now causing me too much physical problems having to empty and restock frig for repairs. I have a Tappan Frigidaire in the garage that is from 1998 - I bought from a neighbor who was moving and it has been working fine for 16 yrs. with no repairs. They don't make them like they used to!

Same complaint as most of the others: bought a refrigerator in 2013 and about one month after the 1 year warranty had run out the freezer started leaking water all over the floor and build up is on the bottom of the freezer, making it difficult to pull out the metal drawer. :( We do not have the water even hooked up to the automatic icemaker so have no clue where the water is coming from. Clothes washer has never worked properly from day one, didn't fill up with enough water. Had the repair man here while the warranty was still in effect and he verified that the washer DID not fill with enough water therefore leaving soap and grime on our clothes. :( He had to order an entire new "brain" and replaced it. Worked for a couple of months better than it ever DID and now back to soapy, grimy, dirty clothes again.
Why isn't there a recall on the part that keeps backing up on these bottom freezer Maytag refrigerators? Someone needs to start a class action lawsuit and get these things recalled and replaced. Spent a lot of money on this brand new refrigerator and was so jazzed to get a brand new one for the first time in my life. :( Well that was surly short-lived. Shame on you Maytag, your company has really gone downhill. I would love it if an attorney could start a class action lawsuit with Maytag on their bottom freezers.

The customer service rep explained to me that Maytag discovered a design flaw in the part that allows the water to drain when going through the defrost cycle. I also called Home Depot. Their response was it was my problem because the fridge was out of warranty and I did not buy an extended warranty plan.
After two more calls to Maytag, they scheduled a service appointment. The service repairman told me the same thing about the design flaw. I have the old part and the package the new part was in. The two parts are completely different. I requested that Maytag or Home Depot replace the fridge or give me credit for the amount I spent. Maytag is now saying there was not a design flaw and because of that, Home Depot refuses to replace the appliance. I will never buy another Maytag product or shop at Home Depot. The extended warranty is a way to place the responsibility directly on the consumer and eliminating the responsibility of the manufacturer and the store.

As a supervisor, Mr. ** failed to provide true customer service for myself and future customers who may be in the same situation, with the potential of causing a hazard for customers. The Maytag supervisor should learn to provide customer service and prevent possible hazards for customers, taking the next necessary steps or research the issue with other departments within Maytag. The parts below are evidence of the issue, the suggested part has two wires, the one from the refrigerator has three... poor customer service, at best with potential hazards to families and children. It may because their appliances don't break, according to their commercials, they just have too much time on their hands and can't provide the assistance that is needed.

Like many others I've read about online, our Maytag fridge model MFI2269VEW5 with bottom mount freezer has ice forming at the bottom of the freezer compartment. The ice then melts and runs onto the kitchen floor. At this point, I am able to prevent this leakage problem by removing the 1/2-inch layer of ice that builds up about once a week. Using a stiff plastic spatula, I am sometimes able to remove the ice in one large sheet but usually it breaks up and has to be removed in pieces. I have seen several videos online showing how this problem can be fixed but as a pensioner with limited income, I am sure the expense of a repairman would be prohibitive. I could likely make the suggested repairs myself but because of a knee replacement, I am not able to kneel for any length of time so that is out of the question. Besides, when we purchased this fridge 3 years ago, we expected it to run trouble free for the rest of our days.
This is obviously a design problem and Maytag should be covering the cost for all repairs. However, it is a sad reality that Maytag and their owner, the Whirlpool Corporation is only interested in making a profit to satisfy their stock holders. They apparently only pay lip service to making quality products that last and customer satisfaction seems to be a thing of the past.

Approximately one week ago, the display on my fridge began to flash and ice door flap continuously opens and closes. Upon researching the issue, it seems to be a very common issue and a known defect. One in which was apparently a recall at one point. I was told by a Maytag representative that the recall was from 2007 to 2009 and has since expired. Expired? It's a known defect and should be the responsibility of Maytag to provide the parts and labor to repair the fridge. I asked for a supervisor and was told that one would contact me within 24 hours. Well, about a week later, I never received that call so I called Maytag again. This time I was told by the maytag representative and a supervisor that there was no recall and that it was a "Quality" issue. A play with words, in my opinion.
Anyhow, regardless of the title the issue was given, I was told I would be responsible for the repairs and costs. I attempted to look up the recall on Maytag's website and had seen the last two letters of the serial number to my fridge listed under the recall, but when I tried to investigate further, the site referred me to the 800 phone number I had been calling. Now, had this been an issue that was not a known defect and apparently a recall, I wouldn't be writing on this site right now. Read MANY complaints about these units leaking water onto the floor underneath. This is accompanied by a sheet of ice forming on the bottom of the freezer under the main drawer. Good money says the cause is a plugged drain tube. I had a Subzero that suffered a similar problem. The factory installed drain tube was a flexible coil type and food particles would be easily caught, compromising water flow - leading to an ice plug and eventual evaporator ice-over. I replaced the factory tube with 1/4-inch rubber fuel line and the problem went away for good. With the Maytag units, if memory serves, access to the drain tube is from the back of the unit. You have to remove an access panel to get to it. There is typically a small removable rubber "restrictor" cap on the bottom of the tube; this is the most likely spot for a clog to form. Due to its design, IMO, clogging and ice-over will probably be a periodic thing. If you are really handy, you can do this maintenance thing yourself.

This is not the first time this Maytag product had problems. Expensive piece of junk in my book! First, as many consumers have experienced there was water leaking in front of the refrigerator onto our hardwood floor. Now the door gasket seal ripped on the end tabs. What happened to Maytag?

The water got so bad it damaged my cabinets. I called Maytag, they admitted my model was sent out with no drain hose so this entire time my $2000 refrigerator had a missing part that they are very aware of. The part was free but I had to pay for the service. It's still leaking on the floor because the drip pan got fried from having no water in it to evaporate so it melted my drip pan, now it needs more service that I have to pay for. I have no faith that this will fix it. I will never buy Maytag again it feels like cheap plastic. I would love to start a claim against them for taking our money knowing the refrigerator has missing parts. Now I'm part of the "towel on the floor club group."

In August of 2009, we had an opportunity to remodel our kitchen plus add new windows and doors. How exciting! SO we had put down new flooring in our kitchen that matched our oak cabinets and since we had a little money saved, we wanted to purchase new appliances to match. We purchased a Maytag side by side with ice and water in the door. It also had the fingerprint resistant stuff on the outside. It cost about $1300. You buy name brand so they will last a while but here we are November 12, 2014, 7 years later and the compressor goes out. If repaired, it will cost $8090 to fix. Why do I want another Maytag. I got a citation I bought in 1978 and it still runs. Hello Facebook, you will my next visitor.

DO NOT BUY MAYTAG REFRIGERATOR. I purchased a Maytag refrigerator 3 years ago, now it started to leak water on the floor. Repairman said this happens after about 3 years to all Maytag refrigerators because the water hose is too small and gets plugged which causes water to flow into bottom of freezer; 2 inches of ice on bottom of freezer. Now we have to remove everything from freezer and refrigerator, unplug for 2 days to melt ice so we lose all of our food in freezer and refrigerator.

Having issues with my mother's refrigerator, simple enough huh? She had misplaced my owner's manual. NOW you buy the fridge, but like everything else, once they get your money you're basically on your own! I call to have a owner's manual sent to her, she doesn't interact with the internet. I mean, there are still your older ones that doesn't even get on a computer. BUT I was told I couldn't get one! But when I bought it, I had one. Please let me know if there is a product recall. Not the Maytag we used to have. My parents bought all their Maytag appliances when they got married and they lasted over 30 years! This is why I bought the Maytag fridge... not sure of the quality now.

Bought the Model MZD2766GEW and the MSD2454GRW side by side models of the Maytag side by side and the wide side by side from Home Depot in the year 2002 replacement appliances after a fire. For both units I paid $2526.92 dollars plus tax to put one in my kitchen and one in my basement. I was told by a plumber Maytag was the best, buy Maytag. It seems like from day one things went wrong. The ice maker kept building ice in the bottom of both freezers. The ice maker never worked right and would build up so much ice in the dispensing area, you would open the door and ice would fall all over the floor and you would have to take a knife to the shoot of the ice maker to unclog it. The drawers would freeze, the vegetables and anything in them, you had to keep the refrigerator temp to Zero and things would still freeze. Water eventually would leak all over the floor and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. The freezer's on the left but then water seem to be running to the right and out the refrigerator part. I couldn't afford to call anybody and the warranty was running out. I had 2 year parts and one year labor but at the time couldn't afford the service call charge.
Eventually I was sent a recall notice for a compressor or such. I thought, Hurray, It will be fixed. Not at all. He replaced both those parts on both refrigerators and after he left it started leaking again. I called Maytag and they said, "did he replace the part that was recalled?" I said yes and they said They were not obligated to pay for anything past the recall. I should call and have the units serviced by a technician at my cost. If he says it's the recall piece again, to call them back. Again I had no money to call a technician right away but when I did, he came to the house, told me it wasn't the recall and claimed to fix some kind of defrost sensor which cost $180.00 for the parts plus labor, plus service call and this had been a different technician than the first. He left and the problem continued to leak, freeze etc. In fact it seemed worse. I gave up calling and decided to deal with it hoping one day to replace but money problems happen and it is now 2014 I never could afford new refrigerators and have had to put up with the leak for all these years and continue to pick up and replace soaked towels everyday.
In 2005 I disabled the ice maker which helped when I opened the door since ice doesn't fall out but both Refrigerators continue to make thick sheets of ice on the bottom and food is frozen into it so I can't use the bottom and when the buildup gets so bad it takes 2 days to defrost by shutting the entire unit off. All I can do is put my food in one freezer and refrigerator while the other defrosts. I also have turned the downstairs one off completely. Now as a second refrigerator I just don't trust keeping it on leaking also. I bought these units after a whole house fire and the last thing I want is another fire because Maytag just doesn't care but I can't afford new Refrigerators because these repairman and Maytag can't figure out whats wrong and fix the problem with this dangerous feature and I call it that because it seems to come with most of their units from when I bought the unit till now.
12 years later people are still having the same problem with the same and copy cat units. Maytag, a plea goes out to you to recall and repair these units. The original recall did not work and like me a lot of people need to be redeemed for what you left go on and a lot of repairmen are ripping off people calling this problem what it's not and stealing our money when you know what the problem is and can fix it. My plea is recall this problem or be responsible before God or who you believe in for letting it go on so long and the damage it may cost people. Maytag, people use to love you but you've ripped our hearts out and it will cost you in the long run.

We are told it cost so much to fix one that we would be better off to buy new. I bought an extended warranty but of course all is out of warranty and Maytag is sorry for the inconvenience and that parts do fail. I am going back to using the old style refrigerators that last rather than paying an enormous amount of money to buy something new and looks nice but will only last a few years. When is a recall in order? When are companies required to do better for the customer? We are told that the compressor might be OK but it could be low on coolant but it is very difficult to find a leak.

Took the back panel off and noticed ice around the copper tubes by the compressor going up into the body. Not good. Put a small brick heater in and slowly melted the ice into the drip tray. Warning, it filled up 4 cups of water and of course spilled and killed the wood floor. After the clean up. Plugged the unit in and it seemed to work for about 3 months. Now it's dead again. Looked into parts around 300 to 400 bucks plus labor to replace the system needed parts. P.S. the fridge, this junk replaced is downstairs working after 25 years not one issue other than the color. MF12665XEM7 - Maytag Refrigerator purchased from Home Depot. We initially thought it to be a good value until it started leaking puddles of water onto the floor to the front sides of the bottom freezer drawer. This event repeated itself and I feared the water would seep between the floor tiles and begin to degrade the sub flooring or possibly cause mold as well. Upon further investigation of lying on my side and pulling the bottom drawer open, I felt, what I thought to be ice on the bottom of the refrigerator's floor. I gently inserted a smooth butter knife and with a nudge, a whole sheet of ice about one half inch thick, lifted from the refrigerator floor. I have since had to repeat this about every three weeks or so. I'm nearing retirement and shouldn't have to lay on my floor like this to protect my floor and to keep my wife and I from a potential hazard of a slip and fall from this water on the floor! Called Whirlpool service since under warranty. The very nice service man replaced the thermostat. Only a little bit better as the temps do not range quite as extreme - only 25-46 now! I am now waiting once more for a service appointment, at least 10 days. Plus in Massachusetts they will only give you a 8-5 service window. They give a robocall the night before and you are given a 8-12 or a 1-4 time for your appointment. I also have had trouble with the meat drawer falling out of the track because the upper shelf bows with the weight of a normal amount of stuff. Now the bracket has cracked and the meat drawer no longer stays on the track when it pulled out partially (such as when you need to reach in and get something). Same thing happens with the lower drawer on the right side although the bracket hasn't cracked.

Purchased this unit back in November 2011. Sometime this year it started leaking water just like many others from the freezer unit onto the floor (many times large puddles). I'm tired of the permanent towel on the floor to absorb the water to prevent a potential slipping hazard. I too went online and found a very nice video on youtube which showed how to disassemble the freezer compartment. Took everything apart and noticed that there was water frozen on the supply line. Melted this and put everything back together, for about a week there was no water leaking so I figured all was well. About a week later the puddle was back so I sent an inquiry to Maytag and let them know I had an image of the issue and asked if it was covered through manufacture warranty.

Frustrated I went online and found this forum where hundreds of other people had the same issue and that many of them were resolved by the new "P Trap". So I watched another video by the same guy on youtube that showed how to replace the P Trap. I went online and found the replacement P Trap Manufacturer model # w10619951. One of the comments there actually said to call Maytag first as they were able to get a replacement P Trap for free. I believe if it was under a year old they would also pay for the labor to have it replaced. So this morning I called Maytag, the first guy Jim said I would have to have a certified Tech come out (76 dollar service fee, plus whatever the labor would cost) and Maytag would cover the cost of the part. I asked Jim if he could just send me the part and I'll do it myself, he reassured me that he could NOT do this and that the system was very specific. I told him I did not understand that a bad design and known quality defect, why should I have to pay several hundred dollars to fix? He told me that was the way it is.
I asked to speak to his supervisor and put me on hold. Not only was the hold music extremely obnoxious but there was a loud humming noise as well, I waited for 10 minutes hung up and called back. I spoke with Maggie this time. I told her I wanted the part sent to me and if she couldn't help me I wanted to speak to a manager. She said she did not have the authority to ship me the part without approval. She said she could ask for approval and after waiting for about 3 minutes she came back on the line and said she spoke with her supervisor and that they would be sending me the replacement P trap today via FedEx. Had they not sent me the part my next stop was going to be the better business bureau..

Hundreds of dollars later in parts and melted groceries all because you won't issue a firmware update? Also have water leaking out of the bottom of the fridge late at night so I'm never awake to troubleshoot it. We purchased our Maytag Refrigerator brand new, about 18 months ago. It always ran loud so the repairman came out during the 12 month warranty period. He told us to unplug and reset it, but that never did the trick. Eight months later, the fridge stopped cooling. We called our local repairman and he told us ($97 later) that the compressor was out. He said we should contact Maytag because the compressor should be under a 5-year warranty. Then the nightmare began.
I spoke to four different reps with a total hold time of about 2 hours. Two of the reps put me on hold to get a supervisor and/or consult another rep and I was mysteriously "cut off" each time. One rep told me my compressor wasn't covered under warranty. The last rep I spoke to told me it was covered and he scheduled a Maytag repairman to come and replace the compressor. I was thrilled. The repairman came out and informed me that the compressor was indeed out and handed me a bill for $137. I asked why I was being billed and he said because that was the way that Maytag had ordered the service call. I told him that the Maytag rep had assured me that Maytag was covering the repair. He apologized and said that not only was I obliged to pay for the diagnosis (which I didn't need because I had already paid my local guy for the same information), but that it would cost $900 to replace the compressor.
I was flabbergasted. I called Maytag and they denied all responsibility. They said that even though the rep had assured me of Maytag's commitment to replace the compressor under the 5-year warranty, he had made a mistake and I wasn't actually covered. So I paid our local repairman to replace the compressor, because by that time, we had been living out of ice chests for 2 weeks. That was 3 weeks ago. Now the unit is freezing water on the bottom of the freezer and then leaking water on the floor. It is unconscionable that this company be allowed to defraud people to this extent. The bottom inside is frozen sheet. I break up and manually remove quite often. NOTE: I intentionally do not use, did not "install", the ice maker - historically they are poor risk so I don't bother. The ice unit is in the machine but not installed. I assume my water build up which freezes on bottom related to poor design of defrost drain and that is supported by other comments here. I find it disgusting. Live and learn. It's B.S.
