Wish I would have read the many, many, many reviews on the Maytag MDB8959SBS dishwasher before buying it. As noted by others, the touch control buttons stopped working 1 month after the 1 year warranty expired and Maytag won't do anything about it. BE WARY OF THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY CLAIM - IT DOESN'T COVER THIS PROBLEM. Maytag should issue a recall on this product and do the right thing - take care of customers like they used to.

Add me to the long list of disgruntled buyers of a Maytag Dishwasher. Just like the other 488 people that similarly filed an unsatisfactory rating on this site I too am now on that list. And no surprise - the control panel ceased to function 13 months after I purchased the unit and one month after the manufacturer's warranty expired. After brief inspection the problem was obviously a design error leading to premature wear of the electric ribbon in the handle. Phoned Maytag and they advised me it was the first they'd heard of this problem with the model.

Only subsequently did I search to discover that the problem was so common it might be characterised as routine. Replace part was 8 weeks and Cdn $153, about 2x the US price. However they wouldn't ship it to me from the US. The repair isn't too difficult: 11 screws and a little patience if you're so inclined. Before installing take a few minutes to trim the plastic where the electronic ribbon strip passes from through the handle without clearance. Save yourself the same repair in another 13 months. Lesson learned - no more Maytag/Whirlpool dishwashers for us.

Like so many others, I now discover, we are having a ridiculously frustrating problem with our Maytag dishwasher, bought one and a half years ago. Last week, the control panel stopped working -- we press "normal" and a whole bunch of other lights come on; try to press other cleaning options and entirely different ones light up again. Sometimes we can get it, with luck, to quick wash or super clean and thus have our dishes cleaned (which the machine never did that effectively anyway); sometimes we can't. I haven't called the company yet, but given what I've read, I'm unsure if it would do any good. Judging from all the similar comments, Maytag is clearly selling a radically inferior product and care nothing much about this. We will surely never, ever buy another one of their products.

After 15 months of use the Maytag Dishwasher MDB8959SBS2 the control panel start malfunction. I read very carefully about the Home Depot Customer reports before purchasing this built in stainless steel dishwasher, and supposed to be one of the top notch on the market, around $850 retail price. It becomes a big disappointment. After three months of use, the top rack handle broken but it still under manufacture warranty, so we get it fixed by Maytag contractor. Then 15 months after regular use for a family of five, the control panel start malfunction, few bottoms will not start anymore. We are out of luck with one year manufacture warranty and working towards our VISA card extended warranty to try to get it fixed.

14 year old Maytag dishwasher keeps on. When I purchased this dishwasher it was because ALL of my pans would fit, even my turkey roaster and my oversized dutch oven! The only repair for this appliance in all of these years up to this year has been the seal, and that was just last year. I broke the hinge this year. It has always cleaned my dishes wonderfully. Great job Maytag. :) Same with my washer and drier that are 29 years old!!!! Just DON'T ask me about my refrigerator or stove. See that in another review.

Within 2 months of 1 year warranty running out, the control panel went wacky - does all kinds of weird things except work right. Called to see if there is any suggestions or work arounds and was told they would be glad to set up a service call for between $70 and $100, where they could tell me how much it would cost to fix. As with the other 100s of folks with the same problem, they basically said "gee, you should have bought an extended warranty." If you have this many people with the same problem then it is Maytag's problem, not the poor sucker consumer who got stuck with it. If you are considering this dishwasher, run, don't walk, as far from a Maytag or Westinghouse product as you can get. If anyone starts a class action suit against this product, please count us in!

We bought a new Whirlpool dishwasher, and it was a nightmare. So after four years of that we tried their sister company Maytag's dishwasher. I have to say that I think these two old American brands have been ruined. This Maytag dishwasher is always making my dishes smell like rotten fish or a dead animal. I have to dump bleach and or vinegar down in the bottom constantly to keep the stink down. And I have looked and there is no food laying in the grinder. Then we started to lose wash cycles, and the buttons (not real buttons but a cheapo control panel) started to malfunction after 2 years. Now, 3 years into it the plastic adjusters in the top rack are broken, control panel has gone totally haywire, and still smells terrible. I remember when American appliances were sturdy and reliable because they were designed by engineers. Now they must be designed by accountants and shareholders. Goodbye Maytag and Whirlpool.

I bought a Maytag dishwasher just 15 months ago. Worked fine for the first 12 months. Then literally, a few short weeks after the warranty expired, the buttons on the control panel started acting up. The normal button, when pushed, would light up the delay hours. The light cycle would make the rinse only come to life. It was beyond frustrating. My husband would unplug it to reset it and that worked for two weeks but now, nothing. It won't work at all. I'm FURIOUS, considering we spent $450 on this thing and now its useless. I had a Kitchen-Aid that I loved but due to cost, decided to get this hunk of junk. I learned my lesson..Maytag, you should be ashamed you make such horrible products.

We purchased this brand new Maytag dishwasher (Model MDB7749) from Home Depot July 30, 2013. Now a little more than 18 months after purchase the control panel is out. Some lights blink, several go on at the same time. Tried resetting by removing then reinserting power plug (that worked once before, a couple of months ago,) but nothing works. Pretty much the same defect and problem I am seeing with other folks with these Maytag dishwashers. I saw online that a Sears outlet was selling these same model Maytag units for 48% off...Well, now I know why.

My older Maytag appliances lasted many years. My Maytag washing machine was replaced two years ago, and it had lasted 14 years. I guess they simply do not build them like they used to. I should of just bought a cheaper model for 3-400 bucks, would of got the same use out of it. Does anybody know of a brand and model dishwasher today that is reasonably priced, dependable and has some longevity to it? I will call for service on this, but I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on a defective engineering flaw, throwing good money after bad. Besides, the repair would probably only give me a 30-90 day warranty anyway. Learned my lesson. I will never buy another Maytag product again...Ever. Also I see now that they are part of Whirlpool, so they are out too. Anybody have any suggestions on a good replacement unit? Thanks...

We purchased a Maytag dishwasher model number mdb7749sbm in April 2013. March of 2015 the controls stopped working completely. We looked online and instantly found it was a problem among many others, and said it was a result of corroded ribbon cable. We opened the panel and, sure enough, inside the ribbon cable the electrical wires were completely rusted through!

We called Maytag, and, of course, despite the numerous complaints of the same problem, they would only fix it if we paid $250, or send us a replacement part for $350 to fix ourselves. Not going to spend that much on a dishwasher that already cost $600 and only lasted 22 months! We are attaching a picture that shows after we tried cleaning the rust (when Maytag refused to fix it) how much of the electrical wires disintegrated! We tried soldering a small wire to connect it again, but the ribbon was so thin it just melted right through.

Do not buy this dishwasher unless you get the extended warranty. We purchased this dishwasher in Jan 2014. The first one delivered was completely busted up (which was probably the delivery company's fault for not handling it correctly). Then we had to wait for the replacement one to come in to get installed. In Sept 2014 the control panel stopped working. It was repaired under the warranty but it took several weeks for the authorized repair shop to be able to come out, diagnose, order part, and then come back to fix it. Now March 2015 (5 months later) we had the same exact problem with the control panel. The repair company was unwilling to order the part to bring with them even though they already had it in their records what we needed due to the previous repair. It was going to $300 to repair it since they only warranty the repair for 90 days. We decided to replace our 14-month old dishwasher rather than put any more money into it.

Shame on you Maytag for putting out such a bad product - obviously this is a common problem. It is quiet and does a good job of washing but to have it take several weeks to get a repair done combined with having a problem that cost 50% of the purchase price to replace twice within a year of each other, absolutely not worth the money. Should have just spent the extra on a higher quality product. Will definitely get the extended warranty on whatever we replace it with.

I purchased a complete Maytag set for my kitchen (fridge, double oven, microwave, dishwasher) from Home Depot on November 22nd 2012. About two months ago I noticed the dishwasher started to glitch here and there, but was still functional. I removed the panel and found that the wiring was completely corroded and would need to be replaced. I put everything back together and have managed to make it almost a month on the same cable. In the mean time, I searched for my receipts, my manuals, and anything else to show my purchase given the 10 YEAR WARRANTY Maytag wants to mention as a sale point. Aside from Home Depot not being able to find my order information to duplicate the receipt, I managed to find where I had ordered my set online and was emailed a copy.

Home depot is not involved with the warranty process, unless you purchase the additional warranty. They deferred me to Maytag. I contacted Maytag and was informed that the warranty only covers the stainless internal tub, the racks, and the chopper. Seriously?? So, absolutely NOTHING mechanical about the product past one year.

After paying the $699 for the washer, and another 57.99 for installation and kit, I was told by Maytag that I could buy another 1 year warranty that would cover the part, but it would cost me $289, or roughly half the price I paid to get a whole two years out of the dishwasher in the first place. This means I might as well be paying almost $300 a year just to have this product... ridiculous!! Just to buy the part and do the work myself, the part is $172 plus tax/shipping. Since it is only 4 screws and a couple clips holding this thing on, I am likely going to go that route.

I have read many people saying similar things about the electronic wire corroding and this appears to be a well known issue with their products. They recommend sealing the entire area using a tube of silicone to help reduce the amount of time it takes to ruin another cable. Very very very poor craftsmanship. Nice racket they have through charging people so much every couple of years for their products!! As my $4000 kitchen appliance set falls apart, I doubt I will ever replace it with another Maytag item.

I had several 3 service calls and changed dishwasher soap several times per their suggestions. I contacted Maytag and was told that the only warranty was for mechanical problems and since the problem was not mechanical there was no warranty. I then went through the Better Business Bureau. The ultimate decision from Whirlpool was "It has been determined there are no defects with the dishwasher and the issue is use and care. Mrs. **'s request for a refund is respectfully denied." It was in small pieces and brittle as though exposed to excess heat. The repairman fixed it free but made the point it was not covered under warranty. Next the heated dry cycle baked the water onto the dishes forming a white crusty layer. We have a water softener that works very well. We stopped using heated dry because it is too hot. Last night before bed, I was standing in the kitchen and I smelled something burning. My wife had mistakenly programmed heated dry into the cycle. We purchased our Maytag dishwasher from Nebraska Furniture Mart in February 2013. The touch panel on our Maytag dishwasher quit working in December 2014, several lights would come on or flash or not work at all. The first repairman that we had come out took the panel apart, cleaned it up and put it back together ($100). It started working again but a few days later it started doing the same thing again. So I called the repairman back and he said the touch panel would need to be replaced. He called all over Omaha and no one had the part in stock. He called the Chicago Maytag warehouse and was told by them that they were out of them because there were so many defective dishwashers that they used them all. Now they are trying to find a new manufacturer to make them. It could be months before they get them in.

So I contacted Maytag and of course they said that is not true and put me through to a parts company that they said has all the parts available. When I told that company that it was the touch panel, I was told by them that you only replace the touch panel for cosmetic reasons! So we got a second opinion from another Maytag repair company and he spent about 10 minutes looking at the dishwasher and said it's a defective touch panel. He said he has replaced a lot of them in Maytag dishwashers. He recommended that I contact Maytag customer service and try to get them to pay for the part. I did call them and of course they refused because it is out of warranty. The supervisor even told me that they have not had any complaints about the touchpad malfunctioning! They do not stand behind their products anymore.

I will never buy a Maytag or Whirlpool product ever again. I told them exactly how I felt and their only reply was "I'm sorry you feel that way." I am surprised they continue to stay in business. I don't understand how major stores can continue to sell their products when they are garbage. Based on the other reviews I've read, I'm not even sure we should fix this for $250.

We follow up with Maytag and they say they've ordered the wrong parts so it will take longer. We try calling the repair man and he doesn't call us back.

Then call Maytag again and get them to call the repairman to see why he doesn't answer us. They told him to call us twice and every time he tells Maytag that he's called us and we don't pick up.

So we tell Maytag he's lying, the repairman hasn't called us for weeks and Maytag doesn't give a **. And seems like this repairman is freaking lazy and doesn't want to work, even if he's paid for it. You know what's happening now? Chargeback! That's right Maytag, screw you.

When I do another house I will never buy Maytag again! Horrible service and a very defective product. I thought we were paying for quality!! I purchased a Maytag dishwasher because they are supposed to be known to be a good brand. But my dishwasher is 3 years old and it started rusting around a steam vent on the outside of the door! This issue has been ongoing but as I've been busy, I haven't had the time to address the problem with Maytag since it's out of warranty anyway. But I feel like this should not be a warranty issue to begin with, it should be a recall issue. I had a plumber look at this, and he said that it was caused because the vent was not properly sealed during manufacturing. Now it looks as though mold spores are growing inside the steam vent! Maytag will not stand behind their product, so why should I invest anymore money into it?! I would rather purchase another dishwasher (OTHER THAN THIS BRAND) than dump another penny into this garbage dishwasher!

We have replaced two thermo fuses, one door latch/switch and now need the front control panel and handle because two mounting locations for the six screws have broken off. I truly expected a much longer product life than three years when I purchased a Maytag. So much plastic in crucial high stress areas must have slipped by the engineering folks. Or was it just cost cuts. I believe it will be a long time before I consider a Maytag product again based on this one. Thank you.

It's a lose-lose situation for the consumer, as the cost of parts and labor for the repair equals or eclipses the replacement cost of a new unit.

Another fine example of the degradation of an American brand, once known for quality and reliability. Don't be fooled by the branding. Buyer beware!

Model # MD87749SAMO: Second failure of the control panel. This is such a common theme in almost every review on Maytag dishwashers no matter where the review is published. I purchased the machine in December of 2012. In the first week the controls stopped working. When the repair man took the panel apart the entire control panel electrical strip was dangling inside the door because it had not been installed properly at the factory. After it was reinstalled, the machine worked quite well for the next year and a half and then the panel failed again. Currently, it only rinses the dishes. So, to keep it limping along until I receive the new control panel electrical strip I will just twice-rinse the dishes with detergent. It does clean the dishes but it certainly is not a very good solution to the problem. What I will probably do is buy two control panel wiring strips and keep one as a spare and install it myself the next time it fails. This isn't an elegant solution nor does it get Maytag to address the issue. But it does allow me some control over scheduling repairs. I will also find out if there is a reason why the strips have such a high failure rate, such as condensation/moisture corrosion in the door cavity, and see if I can remedy it myself.

I was told that MAYTAG was a very reputable company and that they stand behind their product. WRONG!. The company KNOWS these panels have problems and should replace them free of charge as it is obviously a defect. Nope, first they offer to send someone out (In a week) to repair it at $80 just to look at it and the panel is over $100 to replace, and when I complained they tried to sell me extra coverage for $250. REALLY? What is the purpose of purchasing a "QUALITY" dishwasher? I might as well purchase a cheap dishwasher and replace it when it breaks. Perhaps I have a lemon, I do not know. I bought the machine on the 23rd of November and it was installed on the 29th of November. Here it is December 12th and I am sick to my stomach. I have already had to contact Maytag customer support and have a repairman coming. This machine does not clean worth a damn! My glasses look worse coming out of the machine than when they went in. I have run two loads with the machine so far. The auto-sense cycle is a joke. It took over four hours to complete and things did not come out clean. Last night I tried the normal cycle. It came up with a run time of 2:36. The first "rinse" was cold water. The detergent cup was open and empty at 20 minutes in.

So what does the machine do for the next two hours??? When the cycle was finished I looked at the glasses and they were spotted and streaked with remnants of fingerprints and lips. So I ran it again trying the quick cycle. Not one bit of difference, still nasty looking glasses. If this machine cannot get the upper rack clean, how can I be sure the lower rack is getting sufficient cleaning? One would think that for $600 it could at least do the job it was meant to do.

What I'd like is for Maytag to buy this lemon back from me for around $400 - I paid nearly $600 (including installation). Again, I doubt this will happen. From my research online it appears that the control panel issue is a latent defect which Maytag knows about but either won't or can't figure out how to deal with it or correct it. A few months later, I called Maytag because I thought that the control panel was probably shot (based on my previous Maytag for which I replaced the control panel 4 times, before Maytag finally agreed to get me a new dishwasher). At that point they sold me an extended warranty which for 300 they would make this repair, and any other repairs for the next year. They have been out 7, yes 7 times, in 4 months. They would probably be out more often, but since it has been difficult to get a repair person out here, more time than not I'm washing dishes by hand.

Their customer service is horrible, their products worse. Still waiting for the dishwasher to be repaired. They won't send out a different company, even though they have been out here 7 times, and keep coming back. Even when it is repaired, they will not cover the cost to replace the soap bin, the racks, the wheels on the rack, and all the little pieces made out of the same quality plastic as the stuff I buy at the Dollar Store (except when that stuff breaks, it doesn't ruin my hardwood floors). Don't buy a Maytag, roll up some $100 bills and light a match, because you can look at a pretty flame and won't raise your blood pressure dealing with their customer service.

Get a call from the appliance repair co. the night before stating they cant live by Depot's schedule, they wont be out til the following Monday between 9-1. Schedule a vacation day. They come out then have to order parts, they wont be in for 7-10 business days. After 12 business days, I call back and they set appt. between 10-2. Schedule vacation day. They come out and the control panel the warranty company sent is the wrong one. Now I have to start the whole process over again. I purchased a Maytag Dishwasher (MDB7749) in 2012 and one day before my 1 year warranty was up, my start button on the control panel wouldn't work. I called P.C. Richard and they sent a repairman who fixed it. This was in June of 2013. Here I am now hand washing again 1 year and 4 months after the repair. I called P.C. Richard again and was told that all brands have their weak points and because I got it on sale in the first place, I should not feel angry.

Now that I am reading the reviews from 5 years ago, I realize that P.C. Richard knew this was an issue and chose not to disclose it or stop selling it. I had my G.E. for 10+ years and will go back to one. As I have no money for another new one, I will try to learn to fix this one on You Tube.

I bought a Maytag dishwasher, when I bought my house (7/2010). I live alone and I use my dishwasher only once a week or once every two weeks. After 3 years of working perfect, it stopped working. I had someone come look at it. After troubleshooting with the basic steps, making sure the water was correctly hooked up, a fuse was not the problem. The dishwasher door was shut completely. He took the racks and all movable parts, & thought something, a piece of glass, etc, was stuck in the drain. Nope.

After reading these reviews I realize it is got to be the control panel because the start button will not come on and all these people have the similar problem. It just stopped. Period. The panel lights come on, but not the stop button. I am a single person as stated and on disability and on a very tight budget. I bought a Maytag because of the name and reputation. How long would it have lasted under normal use, say a family of 4, using it nightly? Certainly less than a year. I have no idea what to do now. I cannot afford a repairman, & I am certain it is the control panel on the dishwasher. I do of course have all the model numbers, etc & papers, when I bought it. I can provide proper paperwork, when contacted.

Maytag dishwasher mdb7749awm2 - It appears that everybody who bought one of these dishwashers has run into this issue at one time or another, and it usually takes one full year of use before the control panel goes out on these units, and in most cases, it has to do with moisture getting on the thin strip of wires leading from the control board to the control panel. It usually occurs right where the strip enters the control panel... There is nice little gap for moisture to rest right on the wires, which will eventually lead to corrosion. I included an image of what to look for (see the nice black rust areas on the wires? That was my problem, and probably yours, too). If you have some very, very fine sandpaper, and have patience, then you can get the rust off the wire, but be very, very careful, or you could take the small thin wire off in the process!

I've made this repair myself to my unit, and I did it for one my friend's machines (it was a Maytag, and his lasted two years, but had the same problem, too), and both had similar problems and right in the same spot! After removing the corrosion, the system worked great again. However, before hooking the unit up again, I sealed the area with some silicone to hopefully prevent this from happening again. Now, I'm not saying that this is the problem that you are having, but it's worth investigating, and don't be afraid to pull-off the front panel...it's just held on with an adhesive and will go back on with no issues. Anyway, this could save one hundreds of dollars in repair costs. I hope that this helps.

Bought Maytag dishwasher 2007 at Lowe's. Model mdbtt60aww-37837606ll manufactured in Benton harbor, Michigan. First got a recall that something was faulty, could cause fire, needed replacement. Took 2/3 weeks to get repaired. So couldn't use. Never quite cleaned good - many times had to rewash silverware, glasses. Never took off food unless very well rinsed. Today the control panel went. Called a local repair he said, "Don't even fix. Toss and get a new one because it's too costly to repair". I asked what should I get. He said no GE, they are getting out of appliances, no Samsung. He's got whirlpool so guess I'll give that a try. In the past I've had dishwashers 20 years, appliances 20 years. This junk lasts a year or two. Plastic cracks. None of these appliances are great anymore. Doesn't matter who you buy. Someone needs to get some quality control on what these companies are peddling .

I contacted Maytag and they walked me through a reset. It has not worked. It looks to me as if the control panel has failed. This seems to be a common problem with the Maytag dishwashers. As soon as the warranty expires, so does the dishwasher. I purchased this dishwasher from Home Depot for over $600 thinking I was buying a quality product. My previous dishwasher was also a Maytag, even a lower end one that lasted almost 14 years! This one has not even lasted 14 months!!

I was told by Maytag that I could purchase an extended warranty for $267.45 that would last a year. I believe, 4402 based on other reviews that I will be dumping more money into this one even after that. Very disappointed!! I will never buy another Maytag product again! I should have bought the Bosch. It was roughly the same price and high quality. I bought Maytag based on my previous experience. No More!!

We are completely satisfied with the operation of the unit, our only disappointment is the wire racks. The original racks plastic coating broke at the end nubs and became rusty and swollen. We found someone selling a unit and we just took the racks and left the unit for him to resell rackless. Unfortunately not two yrs later the same thing has happened to those racks. Even tried these little plastic covers that are made specifically for this problem. They were virtually impossible to get on and didn’t last more than a few months.

After a nearly hour long call between hold times and conversations I was told the service would be scheduled for Thursday or Friday of this week. As we were scheduling the appointment, I was told the computer for scheduling had gone down and to call the next day to schedule.

I called next day and spoke with a customer service rep who said there was no record of my call the day before. I gave her all of my information, then she transferred me to another service person who then had no record of my two prior conversations. After giving my info to the this 3rd customer service representative, I learned that a repair could not be scheduled for over a week. I asked to speak with someone about my complaints and was told there was no one I could speak with but that she would pass on the complaint.

I asked for a return call or email to confirm that my complaint was received and she said that I would not get that. I then asked for a free service call because of their poor customer service. This was of course denied. The dishwasher has been fine for the short period of time I have owned it but I won't buy another Maytag because of their poor customer service and because the dishwasher has a problem in less than two years. I am just writing this as a warning for other potential Maytag customers.

Maytag has stuck their head in the sand. Either they are ignoring this issue or just don't care due to excessive cost of replacement. This is obviously a design flaw due to poor engineering and Maytag needs to stand behind their product and fix this issue. Personally we had to save up for 1 1/2 years in order to afford a dishwasher. Now we are stuck. Some people have replaced this part costing $200 2-3 times. The serviceman came out and spent 20 minutes, checked the door switch for continuity, and declared the control panel bad. "How do you know it's the control panel," I asked. "It's my gut feel, based on experience," he said! He charged me $129 for the visit and said a new control panel would cost $380! When I called Maytag, these were the options given: 1--have it serviced out of warranty at $89-$150 for repairman's trip & diagnostic, which doesn't include parts & labor or 2--obtain something called Repair plus one, which covers the cost of repair and reinstates the warranty for one year at the low cost of $264.95. So either way, I'm going to have to pay almost 1/2 of the original purchase price. Ridiculous!

It worked okay but then in the middle of 2010 we got a letter in the mail saying our machine was being recalled because the heating element might catch fire (!!!). The recall gave us the option of getting it fixed or getting a $150 rebate. We chose the rebate option so we trashed this dishwasher and went back to Home Depot to buy another one.

We found a very nice Maytag with the stainless steel tub and the racks with the lifetime warranty against corrosion (which was good because our previous Maytag had started to leave rust on our dishes because the plastic on the tips of the rack tines was starting to come off), model #MDBA979AWB1, serial #FY2501885. The one we found was a no-box display model but it had all the accessories with it and still had the factory warranty. We got it for just over $300 and with our rebate applied we were out the door for under $200 including tax. I installed it myself and didn't have any issues for quite some time. My wife and I were both very happy with how clean the dishes got!

Now, last night the dishwasher wouldn't start. I checked it out this morning, made sure it had power and was able to get some lights on the control panel to light up but still couldn't get it to start. Looks like I've been victimized by the control board as most of these complaints have said. I guess I should consider us lucky since ours seems to have lasted longer than the average 18 months to 2 years. Now, we have to pay $275.00 for the new part and service call. My previous dishwasher lasted twenty years and we never had a problem. I thought Maytag was a quality product. Sadly mistaken!!

It is not worth fixing it and having it malfunction again. Maytag will not say anything about this, only offers a repair person out to fix. I am very disappointed that my hard earned money purchased a sub standard machine. Maytag used to mean reliability. NO more.

Called Maytag and told it wasn't covered by warranty but they did walk us through resetting the power and it fixed the problem until we ran the next load. Now when you try and set it, the rinse only light comes on. Bought the Maytag because I always believed them to be dependable - wrong!! I had a basic model Whirlpool running for a family of 5 for 25 years prior to this Maytag without ever having to call a repair person. Maytag won't deal with the issue so I would recommend to anyone else having any issues with unreliable appliances to do what I am doing - boycotting Maytag!!

The control panel began to fail within the first year. Called the Maytag service center which confirmed it was still under warranty and scheduled a repair date. On the date of repair, I called the service center after waiting a few hours and not hearing from the technician for an ETA. Service center confirmed that I had made the appointment, but that they did not have a record of dispatching the technician. I asked if the reschedule could happen in the evening or on a weekend so I would not have to take more time off of work and was told no. I asked if the request could be escalated and was also told no (note: even though this was an irritating experience, the people in customer service were polite.) I told customer service I would call back to reschedule.

I attempted to escalate this via the Maytag website email system, which states responses to emails will occur in approximately 3 days. After waiting a week with no response, I gave up and called to reschedule another appointment. I called back to reschedule an appointment 8/25/2014 with the original Maytag service call number. Maytag's first response was that the unit was now just out of warranty and wouldn't be covered as such. They reconsidered that when I responded that the original request was under warranty and that the service call had failed to happen.

I am now waiting to hear from their local service provider on when the repair will be scheduled. My overall rating of Maytag: Quality of build questionable with a failure within first year. Quality of service and their service processes (including the website) is not dependable and not customer friendly. Capability of customer retention poor at best.

Had some extra time, so I thought I'd add my .02 to those including myself disgusted with Maytag products! 1st up, the Maytag washer and dryer I purchased from my nephew after his divorce. The washer shot craps 2 months after I bought it from him (out of warranty of course!). The transmission went out - cost to repair $550.00. My nephew paid $350.00 new at Sears. We happened to have our ol' reliable clanking GE, so we used that while deciding what to do about the washer. In the meantime, the dryer quit heating. Cost to replace heating element - 400 smackers! Dryer new at Sears was $250.00.

Come to find out that even though they had Maytag names on the washer/dryer, they were cheap copies by White/Westinghouse. Well anyway we bought a set of Whirlpool Duets before doing our homework, cuz if we knew what was gonna happen... Before we knew the trouble we were going to have with the washer/dryer, we got a Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwasher (Maytag Quiet Series 300 MDBTT60AWW). Yip, the control panel failing problem! Only purchased 1 so far (only 1?!), but my wife likes to hand wash the dishes. If we were the typical family using the dishwasher all the time, I would have replaced more than 1 at a cost of $135.00 each from Sears and doing my own R&R work, saving on the labor. Cost new at Lowe's - $350.00

Up next is the Maytag fridge. I purchased it back when our 2 boys were at home. I bought it mainly for the name and large capacity. After about a year (yip out of warranty) the cooling was very uneven. Sometimes the freezer would defrost by itself, then it would start working ok again. The top couple of racks in the fridge would be quite a bit warmer than the bottom. I understood the top racks would be a little warmer, but I'm talking like 15 degrees. I called a repairman and told him about the problem. He said he's received numerous complaints on this particular fridge, and there's really no way to repair it unless the electronics are replaced as well as the compressor because as the compressor gets weak over time, the electronics get fouled up by this. Cost new - $1300.00. Estimate over the phone cost to repair - $950.00 with no guarantees. Replaced with a Samsung

As far as the Duets? No problems so far. They work great and we are very pleased by them. But I have did my research and am holding my breath! I also have a Maytag microwave that's still working, but has did a couple of unusual things - the lights in the front panel display started flashing showing a fault. I unplugged it when it's did this to reset it. That was a while back and now it seems ok. At least for now!

When someone says, "Yeah, well, you might just have a lemon, but the rest of Maytag's appliances are fantastic"! My wife and I when we hear this are ready for a fight! We've had experience with all of Maytag's products, and with the exception of the Duets (so far), they are nothing but junk!! Another thing I wish to mention is the Samsung fridge. It's about the only model that has a factory 5-year warranty on the compressor and major components. We've had several fridges in our married life, and the Samsung is far superior to any fridge we've owned. I'll be looking to that brand in the future. The last item I promise: If you read the reviews on front load washers, none of them get very good ratings. If I would have know that, I may have purchased a top load. But the Duet washer does do a superior job (IMO) cleaning the clothes, and the clothes are virtually dry after the last spin.

I bought Maytag because my old dishwasher lasted 13 years. What is interesting is that a company whose name I've forgotten sent me bimonthly requests to purchase a warranty from them. Now they have stopped. I am a single mom of 3 with an unemployed ex. I work and support my family without any assistance. I count every penny. I cannot afford repairs nor a replacement now or any time soon. This is a travesty.

I do not understand how Maytag's denial of the problem and their unwillingness to correct the problem can improve their image. I will never purchase from Maytag or its associated companies ever again. What a scam! The control panel works intermittently -- I've replaced and ruled out the door latch -- now I've got the problem narrowed down to either the control panel or the circuit board. I've read about this diagnostic cycle I could run to try to help diagnose the problem. I emailed Maytag for the code and waited a week and didn't get a response.

I called them today and they said they can't give me the code--they only give that to their technicians. My dishwasher is not brand new, but I paid good money for it, and I'd prefer to not have to guess what to buy when I'm trying to repair it. Each of these parts costs about $150. I'm not sure what the policy is for other dishwasher manufacturers, but for the next washer I buy, I'll find a company that either 1) has more reliable products or 2) at least tries to help the customer repair his own equipment.

So I have had my new dishwasher 14 days, and have been able to use it a total of 4 times before it failed. I am now awaiting the new parts. My biggest issue is that maytag has a diagnostic code for most new appliance, but they will not give out the codes. All this is a sequence of buttons you push on the front and it then tells you what is wrong. They do this so the repair guys can figure out what is wrong. If they let the consumers know this, you would not need to call a repair person at all and you could by the parts for very cheap on amazon. On June 16th, I went to run the dishwasher and it would not turn on after hitting the start button. The cycle buttons lit up but the dishwasher would not start. I called the service number in the user instruction manual and talked to a service representative. When I asked for a qualified Maytag repair service company in my area, she only had one company to give me. This company does not have a very good local reputation so I preferred not to use it. My question is - How can a part that runs the dishwasher not be covered under the warranty? If the start button on the control panel is defective then the machine will not work. I also have a model MDB7749AWW2. After reading some of the 356 complaints about this very dishwasher, I think the Maytag Company must be well aware that there is a problem with this machine's control panel and they are choosing to disregard the customer. I only use the auto clean cycle (that decides how dirty the dishes are, and is the cycle you use to conserve water). I don't use heat dry at all. Anyway, now I go to use the dishwasher and even though I press the auto clean button, the normal/heat dry/delay start buttons flash on. I try canceling this cycle out; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't see Maytag as reliable anymore.

Dishwasher Control Panel MDB7749AWM2 - Purchased unit on 11/22/2011. June of 2014 my start button stopped working, and after searching online I guess I consider myself lucky. Spent 38 minutes on Maytag consumer service site speaking to a rep who walked me thru a reset that did not help and then explained that my machine was no longer under warranty and $149 for the service call and the cost of the part assuming it was a control panel would total over $250 on a machine I spent $500 on. I spoke to a supervisor who was only willing to sell me a control panel at 50% off and do it yourself, and while they claim there are no consumer issues with this part, they stated that the warranty on the part is only 90 days. I told them this was the last Maytag/Whirlpool/KitchenAid appliance I would purchase and they did not seem to care so I will be moving on to another dishwasher since I will not invest $250 in a fix of an item that they will only stand by for 90 days!

Today I have the same electrical problem and after waiting on line 12 minutes to talk to Maytag's customer service, I was told it could cost me a couple of hundred dollars to repair my 7-year old dishwasher. In my last home, my Kitchenaid dishwasher lasted 20 years before needing to be replaced. My daughter's Maytag dishwasher lasted on 12 years. What ever happened to "Maytag's lonely repairman"? You'll be lucky to get 8 yrs out of it. They make them with such cheap parts now". Well, I guess he way over estimated the longevity, as it conveniently stopped working just after it went off of warranty. It must be the control panel that everyone else has issues with. First, knew there was a problem when we'd set it to run, and come back several hours later to find it still running. Now it does nothing, but hold the drying dishes. The outcome? My husband does the dishes by hand and we have an over-sized dish rack for which he places them to air dry.

It seems that the company and its employees don't know [or care] about the product. Contacted their service/helpline to let them know that the screws on the insides of the latch [on the cover] are NOT screwing into anything, they come loose. The repair man told me that if it failed a third time, that Maytag would replace the dishwasher all together. The control panel quit again just a few days before the warranty expired. When the Maytag repairman came for the repair, he tried to convince me that it was not the control panel this time. He then replaced the control panel, but did not use the embedded electrical connectors. He literally cut the wires and wired it together by hand, wrapping everything in electrical tape. He said this was a different repair than the others and the three strikes and a full replacement rule didn't apply. I wasn't convinced and called Maytag to complain. I was promised a six month warranty extension, if I would accept the repairs.

Two months later and the control panel has quit again. When I complained to Maytag, I was told that I had no six-month warranty extension and it had never been promised to me. Those days are over and these guys are busy working to fix these devices they label as "dishwashers". Since my warranty is now expired, it was an unexpected $96 "service call" to tell me what I already knew - "It's your panel again sir, it needs to be replaced. Sears fixed but then 2 more repairs followed with blown fuse and pump motor went out. We knew this was a lemon so we purchased an extended 3-year warranty through Maytag. Well the unit only works for a month or two then we are constantly calling for repairs. We just had the pump replaced a 3rd time and yep you guessed it the unit is loud again so here comes repair 15.

The warranty contract states that if the same part fails 3 times, Maytag will replace the unit new one time and voids any further repairs. My wife and I are very frustrated and lost all confidence with the Maytag company. Our old one lasted 14 years and this new one is a piece of junk. The company reviewed my request of unit replacement but was denied for whatever stupid reason. This unit has over 5000 dollars worth of repairs not counting the lost time of appointments waiting for the repair. My wife has had to stay home and wait for 4 to 8 hours an appointment. She has many other obligations to do with her time. It's sad that Maytag does not stand behind their product.

It's my conclusion that this company does not want to sell good product, they only want to sell extended warranties. Your products are not reliable if you have to offer warranties. I would like to see if I can get to repair 30 before my warranty expires by March of 2015. Maybe I could then see if 30 repairs would make the Guinness Book of Records on the most repairs done on a dishwasher with extended warranty. It did nothing, the dishwasher still would not wash, just fill up with water and drain, but would never go into wash, so we call and argue. First girl said that recall has been known to burn out the control panel so we have to pay for a service person to come out and diagnose it, if that is it, they will pay to repair it. Then when he does diagnose it, we call back, the next person says no, the recall has nothing to do with the control panel, that it is just a bracket that holds up the heating element... REALLY.

Well then the Consumer Protection Agency has the wrong info because I just looked on there and the recall says, "Electrical failure with the heating element" that is not related to a bracket, I can read and I am not stupid, so we were out the $50 service call, so we finally got them to agree and pay for the part, but we would have to pay to put it on...HHHHHH NO, I am not spending another dime on service calls, I could spend the same amount and go and get a scratch and dent dishwasher for the same or just a little more. We are calling back tomorrow to argue more with them, then I am emailing the local TV station that handles these kind of issues. I purchased a Maytag model no. MDBH979AWB dishwasher on 4/28/2010, and I did not take out the extended warranty. I thought a Maytag product was built to last, but according to Maytag, I am wrong because they only offer a 1-year warranty on their products. About 2 months ago the hi-temp button on the control panel stopped working. Then a few days ago, the START button stopped working, I emailed Maytag and they sent me a PDF file that shows the warranty is only 1 year. I purchased the dishwasher at Home Depot, I went there and talked to customer service, they were no help either.

I am very disappointed in both Maytag and Home Depot for selling products that Are CRAP! I paid $499 for this dishwasher, and if I would have known it only came with a 1-year warranty I would not have purchased it. I will no longer purchase any products that are made by Maytag or any products associated with Maytag.

We bought a Maytag Dishwasher on March 16, 2013. Less than 10 months, we had repairman come in 5 times. First was soap scums left on the glasses after a wash. Then, the soap dispenser was leaking. Now the control panel is not working. We have to wait for a week for the parts to come in. Total length of time for hand washing dishes since we bought this dish washer is three weeks. They said they are not going to replace it until it can't not be repaired. What does that mean?? Please never ever buy Maytag dishwashers!!!!!

I called customer service to ask if there was some way that Maytag could assist me with repair of this like new dishwasher. When I said it was out of warranty and I had no additional warranty, I was told that a repairman could come out for $110 and diagnose the problem and that parts and labor would be extra. I explained that I had purchased Maytag because I saw commercials, for years, showing that Maytag repairmen had no work. She was very unhelpful and kept droning the same mantra, that a repairman could come out for the above charge.

I was very angry and asked for the name and address of the President of Maytag so I could send a letter of complaint. I composed a letter, however: it is Thanksgiving time and I need my dishwasher so I made an appointment to have it repaired. I was told he would be out Mon. between 8 and 5. I asked for a more specific time and was told that I would get a call on Sat. with the time.

Thankfully, no call came, because on Sunday, I read the reviews on this site and realized that Maytag was no longer a reliable nor a responsible company and I decided to save myself money and time and stress and just go out and buy a GE. So we will hand wash the dishes on Thanksgiving and buy a GE on Black Friday. This does not mean that I am letting Maytag off the hook. I intend to send my letter to Jeff Fettig at Maytag and also join in the class action suit. How very sad that the name Maytag has become just a name used to shill for defective and shoddy merchandise.

I think it would be nice to state on the box of dishwasher that customer may need a water connecting fitting and hose for their new dishwasher. Yes, I was asked if I needed anything else and I replied I don't think so! Well when I got home, I did need the water supply sweep 90 degree elbow. Or tell sales people to inform there are parts missing. I had to drive back to Huntsville, AL from Hazel Green. Not life or death, just saying! I do like Maytag products. The dishwasher I replaced was17 years old and we had good service! It’s just starting sounding like a rocket motor. Time to upgrade, I thought. Well my wife really thought so! ;)

13 months after installing the dishwasher, the touch pad no longer functioned. Called Maytag 800 number and they said "out of warranty". I sent out repair man and he gave me a price for repair totaling approx. $300. Called back to Maytag and asked for a supervisor, she agreed to send the parts for free and I had the repair man install. Out the $120 for the repair and wonder how long it will last this time! I will consider a buying an extended warranty? Next time I will buy a lesser priced dishwasher with a dial, no more touch pads.

I bought a Maytag dishwasher in April 2012. The electronic control panel failed in October 2013. Repair quote was $250, and there is no guarantee that the new control panel will not suffer the same consequences. My research has revealed that this is a very common problem with the dishwasher experienced by a large amount of owners, all about at the 18-month mark. I contacted the company and was chastised for not purchasing the extended warranty and was basically told, "Too bad so sad". Buyer beware, do your research before you purchase this appliance. I will never buy a Maytag appliance, or any brand associated with the Maytag name.

We bought a Maytag dishwasher March 2012 and the unit wouldn't turn on October 2013 - 6 months after the warranty ended. We called their service department and they told us to unplug the dishwasher or turn off the circuit breaker. We did so and the unit still would not turn on. We called a repairman who advised us that the touch pad was not working. The cost with parts and labor would be close to $300 which was more than half the original price. We repaired it and I sent all the papers with a letter to the consumer department and today I got a call advising us that they would not do anything. Do you think I have any further recourse? If not, I will never buy a Maytag product again and will advise anyone within a listening area as to how we were treated.

In the last 6 years, I've had a Whirlpool dishwasher that the motor seized due to poor design and overseas Asian motor builder (3 years of normal service). I cleaned the motor and it seems to barely work another couple of months but the design and manufacture process was garbage at best. Thinking I would go with the best produce MAYTAG (Old commercial about repairman having no calls), only to find out that it too was bought out by CRAPPY WHIRLPOOL and it too lasted a couple of years with cheap MADE IN CHINA electronics!!! That's why we are the laughing stock in the world as far as products.

I remember the days of where built in the USA was the best of the best, now with selling our great nation down the toilet so some Wall Street Commie can make his/her biz-zillion dollars and sell this nation down the toilet. Maybe they need to go down to Arlington and see who really has paid the price for their luxurious life-style!!!

Last year we replaced a Maytag dishwasher which had a faulty control panel after just a few years of light use (There are just the two of us). It was going to cost almost as much to repair it as to buy a new dishwasher, so we opted for an $800 model (MDB8959AWW6) with a control panel across the top of the door. There had been a recall on that first Maytag for the heating element or something, so we decided to put the credit towards a machine that would last us for years, we hoped!

We have been in this house for 18 years and the original cheap builder-installed dishwasher lasted for 12 years. In fact, there was nothing wrong with it when we replaced it with the last one. Whatever happened to the lonely Maytag repair man? We did not buy an extended warranty, but I can see now that probably these things are only meant to last the lifetime of the warranty.

We are semi-retired and cannot afford to have the dishwasher repaired, so it will be a decoration in the kitchen from on. Never ever will I recommend Maytag to anyone! One bad experience should have been enough, and we probably would not have bought a Maytag again had it not been for the credit we got for the product recall on the last one!
