My dishwasher is two years old and it just stopped working. I called the store I purchased it from and they sent out a repair man. He told me that the control panel was damaged and that he would have to replace it. The cost is $145.00 plus the $50.00 service call. He said something must have spilled and got into the control panel. It is a built-in dishwasher underneath a kitchen counter. I think it should somehow be protected against spills and/or moisture getting into the control panel as it is underneath the kitchen counter. I do not remember spilling anything that ran down the front on the dishwasher. But even if something spilled, if it was made properly it should still be working. I will not recommend a Maytag to anyone and will also spread the word about what happened. Unhappy in Pennsylvania.

Purchased at Home Depot in July (2013). The thing does not stop running!! Ridiculous response from appliance dept. I called to ask for a service call. Cindy was her name... "Oh no.. They can run for 3-4 hours!!! New efficiency models". I asked, "How could that be efficient? Electricity and water..." She said, "You'd be surprised... and if they came out, it would be a service charge because there is nothing wrong with it!" How ignorant... and what intelligent person would leave any appliance running when you are not home for any normal running time. I will see what someone else comes up with for an excuse when I call again tomorrow...

Dishwasher model: MDBH949AWW3. Gradually over a month's time lost its control functions and its status display. Ten days ago the last button to fail was the start button and the dishwasher stopped working. Maytag confirmed over the phone that there was no recall on this model. The part costs $190 and is out of stock till end of October 2013. I opened the dishwasher and took a closer look at the keypad. It has the cheapest touch buttons I ever seen. Maytag had provided at purchase time a user guide and a large sheet with a sketchy incomplete drawing (W10142800C) for service use only.
I made my own schematics and I built my own keypad for less than $50. You may notice that the info I have on my attached schematics is missing from Maytag/Whirlpool incomplete drawing. My keypad is working fine and will outlast all the remaining parts in that dishwasher. I wish there is an angry lawyer out there with a bad dishwasher like mine that will use this info to sue Maytag. Please give the schematics to any user having troubles with this lousy touch pad.

This dishwasher has an electronic control panel that is faulty. Within one year of purchase, the control panel shorted out. It was replaced under warranty. Almost exactly a year after that, the same part failed for the same reason. This time, Maytag refused to replace it for free since it was out of warranty. A new control panel would have cost over $250. Disappointed with this Maytag product and their refusal to replace an obviously defective part, I decided to buy a new dishwasher from another manufacturer. Also, it did not make sense to me to spend that kind of money to replace a part that would continue breaking every year. AVOID Maytag dishwashers with electronic control panels!

My Maytag dishwasher is a nightmare. I purchased it in February 2013, started having problems with it turning off a week ago. I called Maytag customer service on Wednesday and was told I had a service call scheduled for Friday. I took the day off of work to be available for the repair service. I was given a phone number for the repair service. By noon I was wondering when I would receive a phone call to let me know when the technician would arrive? Then I was told that my appointment was scheduled for next Tuesday... ARE YOU KIDDING???? THAT WOMEN FROM MAYTAG CUSTOMER SERVICE LIED TO ME ABOUT THE DATE OF SERVICE!!!!
I spoke with Scott, customer service representative (manager) and he told me that I was sent an email with confirmation. ANOTHER LIE!!!! I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY EMAIL FROM MAYTAG. I would never buy another Maytag appliance.... They DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. LOUSY CUSTOMER SERVICE... SUB PAR TO SAY THE LEAST!!! Very dissatisfied customer - wasted my time and are not willing to make it right.

My fiance bought this dishwasher 5 years ago but has never been able to use it due to the fact he is disabled and unable to open the door. When I moved in 4 months ago, I began using it regularly 2-3 times a week. Yesterday, I loaded it and when I hit the start button, it did nothing. The lights come on but the start button doesn't seem to be working. I have torn it apart twice and after looking all over the internet have determined that the control panel is bad. We live on a very fixed income and fixing something like this will take a large part of our budget. I am shocked that something so expensive can only last a few months then stop with no warning. We will be calling and adding our names to the list for the class action lawsuit here in California.

Purchased Maytag dishwasher model # MDB4709PAB3 8/2012 @ Lowe's in NY with extended warranty. After a while, noticed wood floor warping in front of appliance. Called repair and after several tries, they couldn't repair leak under door. After many complaints to Lowe's and Maytag, was finally issued a new dishwasher 8/2013 same model #. Person that hooked it up couldn't wait around to see if all was okay. Ran dishwasher after he left and as usual for this model it leaks worse than before. Called Maytag complaint dept and they said they would issue me another dishwasher of my choice and same price through Lowe's. But they never spoke to Lowe's and Maytag will not call me back. I would think there must be a leak problem with this model. Do not buy. It is not worth the trouble!

I am so furious!!! At this point, I may just have to bite the bullet and buy a brand new machine. This should NEVER happen to an appliance that is so new! What a laugh regarding the Maytag quality! It is the WORST I have ever seen in my life! Stay away from Maytag!!!! Buyer beware!!!!

I purchased our Maytag dishwasher last November. Last week, the control panel went out. I called customer service and they were actually polite and helpful, except for the fact that I had to wait an entire week to have a technician come to my house. Being that I live in the Balt/DC Metro area, I would have thought they would have enough people in the area to come over faster. Anyhow, we finally had the technician come today and tell us that the control panel needs replaced and that he highly recommends an extended warranty, which costs $200 for 5 years. He let my husband know that the repair itself would cost $500 if not covered by warranty!!! What a ripoff!
I purchased this dishwasher because I grew up believing in the Maytag brand. Sounds like this is an extremely common issue and if Maytag wants to make things right, they should discontinue sale of their crap product and provide those of us who are stuck with it, a complimentary 5 year warranty. I shouldn't have to pay $200 in extended warranty to make up for the fact that my control panel is likely to go out again in another year, when I'll be forced to buy a new dishwasher.

Very Poor Quality from Maytag Although (Dishwasher, model MDB8959AWS) - I knew Maytag always had a reputation of selling quality products I have never purchased a Maytag appliance because they usually cost more than other brands, so this is my 1st Maytag product. After ~25 months (after all warranties have expired), the unit stops working. The lights seem to have a mind of their own. I removed power from the unit for 1/2 hour attempting to "re-boot" the computer but the condition did not change. After researching the issue online, I found that Maytag has a two big problems: 1) Defective dishwashers, 2) Bad or no customer service.
I am an engineer and this type of a problem (it happens from time to time) MUST be acknowledged and the customer made whole or the reputation of the company is destroyed and future sales will (and should) diminish to the point that the company may(?) go away for ever. I know products are not designed to last a lifetime like they were in the 60s & 70s but 3.3 years for a $650.00 appliance is way out of line. The dishwasher we replaced was ~18 years old, and we only replaced it because my wife wanted a more modern look.

We purchased at Home Depot on 5/12/2012 a Maytag dishwasher model MDBH979SAM. The following November it started not working correctly. We had to fiddle with the cancel button to get it to work at all. It just kept on getting worst to where it would not function at all. We called Maytag service. They set up a service call with a local warranty service provider who ordered a control board and a week later came and installed. No charges at this point. Now, here at the end of August 2013, out of warranty, it is doing the same thing!
I just called Maytag customer service in Tennessee and was told they are so sorry but would sell me a one year service contract. This I immediately refused. I told the person I was talking to that I had seen this website and was aware that hundreds were having the same issues and that I knew first hand that they were doing nothing about it! I informed this person I will be in contact with my home states Attorney General’s Office Consumer Fraud Division and would ask for any assistance from them available. This person then offered to replace the part at no charge, but I would have to pay for the service people to come and determine the problem (real hard to figure out that it is the control board again, same as everyone else) and then pay to have them come and install it after they order and receive it!
The service order left by the tech when he replaced the first board showed a $74 fee that was covered by the warranty. So from this I have determined that it will end up costing me $150 for this repair. I also realize this repair may last six months to a year if I am lucky! Needless to say I refused this last offer too. I will have to wait to hear from our Attorney General's office. How can any reputable business do this?

I grew up trusting and believing in the name brand Maytag. Unfortunately, I won't anymore. I purchased a Maytag MDB7749AWM1 dishwasher from Lowe's thinking that I would not need the extended warranty because well it was a Maytag and they just keep working and working for years to come. Not true anymore. 1.5 years after the purchase the control board has gone out. I come to find that hundreds upon hundreds of people have all experienced the same thing. Shortly after the manufacturer warranty expires, the panel dies. By all accounts it is an issue of POOR engineering and Maytag now being produced by Whirlpool.
The replacement part is between $150 and $200. That's about half the purchase price. It is a racket. Companies like this probably think, "well if we build something that is going to last and last we can't make money on that. So let's rig it so our stuff breaks right after the warranty and charge half the price of the unit to fix it so we continue to make money either by people buying the part or just going and getting a new dishwasher." Well I can tell you I will be getting a new dishwasher and it certainly won't be a Maytag OR a Whirlpool.

I have a Maytag dishwasher MDBH980AWQ10, within the 1st month of owning it there were issues. Now the electronic control panel is shot, dishwasher won't turn on. To replace it...almost the cost of what I paid, warranty has run out. In the last 7 years we have had problems with 5 various Maytag products, replaced our Maytag dishwasher which lasted 20 yrs and Maytag washer & dryer that lasted 30+ years and ran without a hitch. Maytag has not been helpful at all and their authorized service repair. A&E Repair Service is a bigger scam than they are. It is a waste of my finances and time to buy major appliances every 5 years.
Each and every one of their new appliances has died shortly after all the warranties have run out. I'm beyond frustrated, disgusted, and financially drained. It does not pay to be brand loyal to Maytag for they are no longer respectful nor appreciative of their customers. I would love to give corporate the opportunity to enjoy the same products that are in my home...in their homes...as well as the experience of their customer service. Last Maytag purchase for me! Is there anything that I can do in the meantime so I'm not stuck with their lemons?

I was so angry I was ready to buy a new dishwasher and forget about them...but I don't have that kind of cash to throw away. After going 5 weeks without a dishwasher (first-world problem) I paid for the part and a repairman to come and fix the dishwasher. Now 3 months later, the touch panel won't work. I am so upset that I wasted the money to fix this piece of junk. I will never purchase another Maytag again.

Unfortunately, I've just been obliged to open my third service call on this "new" dishwasher. The first service call was made in August 2012, just outside of the first year warranty period to repair a wire which had come loose in the control panel, making the dishwasher inoperable. The second service call (May 2013) was to replace the front panel housing and touch pad which had broken off at the screw-mounts holding it on to the door. As the handle to open the dishwasher is part of the front panel (which must be pulled out pretty hard to open as it does not have a latching mechanism) screws set into unreinforced, thin, plastic posts holding the panel to the door seems like a serious design flaw.
The third service call which I placed last week (August 2013) is to address the fact that the dishwasher has become completely inoperable with no lights on the front panel and is completely unresponsive. To say the least my experience with this product (and by extension the Maytag brand) has been a serious disappointment. I guess the reason I no longer see those TV commercials with the lonely Maytag repairman is because these days he's actually really busy fixing broken down ** Maytags. I will never, ever buy any Maytag or Maytag-family brand appliance ever again.

Might as well get a new dishwasher. Joining the lawsuit. It is about time corporations take responsibility for defective merchandise, not make money to correct their mistakes by charging customers for overpriced parts and stupid worthless warranties. I purchased a Maytag MDB7749AWW dishwasher in March of 2012. The electronic control on this unit failed in June of 2013 (3 months out of warranty). I have been trying to get a replacement part for over a month; the part is on backorder and unavailable. Whirlpool is unable to tell me when the part will be available. So, I have had no dishwasher for over a month and have no idea when, or if it will be repairable. Additionally this part is $150.00 and another $75.00 to have it changed. So it is going to cost me $225.00 to repair a 15 month old dishwasher that I paid $450.00 for. I have received ZERO support from Whirlpool. They told me today, 7-31-13, that the part is still unavailable and they will notify me in 3-6 business days as to if they can find a part.
After seeing all the issues other people have had with this part, Whirlpool's total lack of concern or support for the consumer and the cost issue it makes no sense to repair this unit only to see it fail again in a year or so. Basically I have a $450.00 boat anchor. The retailer purchased it from feels bad and is offering me another manufactures machine at a reduced price. Maytag has refused to do anything for me. I bought my Maytag dishwasher in February 2011. It seemed like a good model - basic functions, upper spray arm, stainless interior. Well this dishwasher has been all downhill since I got it. First it is cheaply made. The racks and plastic stoppers on the racks immediately started falling apart. The one year after we installed it the front control panel went out, rendering the dishwasher completely useless! The warranty had just run out! To my pleasant surprise, I received an extended warranty offer from Sears. Had the front panel replaced and it started working again.... but apparently it is a bad design and it is likely to happen again. After reading online I am not the only one with this problem.
Now another year later we are having a the sprayer on the top and the back hose replaced..... (still waiting for sears to install). It makes grinding sounds, leaves white marks, doesn't clean.... it is a non-stop battle with this product. Upon calling Maytag, they said they could give me advice but can't pay for any parts or even give me a coupon towards a new product! I have tried everything with this dishwasher - fancy soap, cleaning solutions, jet dry... it's not me, it's Maytag! I will likely be in the market to buy another dishwasher next year because of all the issues, and it for sure will not be a Maytag.

My Maytag dishwasher (MDB7749AWM) stopped working at only 15 months. I had a technician check it and he said it's the control panel not responding after he opened the door panel. It's when I searched online for replacement part I learned about the defective control panel. So I decided to forgo repair and bought a new dishwasher. I feel the manufacturer should be held responsible and called the number found on the internet, 858-646-8500, about a class action lawsuit filed in California federal court. The lawyer handling the case called me back that day explaining to me it's a long road before the case qualifies for class lawsuit. Because I live in Texas, he will need someone to represent Texas plaintiffs in order to include Texas in the national settlement down the road. I said, "I don't expect anything but would like to see a class action." Since I have no use of the defective dishwasher, he asked if I am willing to send the machine to him at his expense. I said yes. For all of you complaining about the defective dishwasher, I suggest you to call the number to join the lawsuit. Even though we may not see a penny for long, long time, it's the only way to punish the deceptive business.

Why is it that my grandmother's old dishwasher worked for 30-40 years and now you are lucky if you can get an appliance that works for a year without breaking? This planned obsolescence is ridiculous. Do not buy Maytag products - hit them where it hurts - in the wallet. They used to build quality products, but not anymore. Maytag Dishwasher Model MDB6759AWS3 Does Not Start - If you are having the following problem, here is what I did to fix it. All of the lights on the touch pad would light-up when pressed but the dishwasher would not start. It appears to be a corrosion problem on the connector from the touch pad to the control panel.
2. Remove the inside cover to the dishwasher door - approximately 10 screws.
3. Disconnect the electrical connections from the inside cover to the control panel still attached to the door. These are "snap" connectors. Always a good idea to label the connections before disconnecting in order to make sure everything goes back together properly.
4. Remove the black cover on the control panel. There are 3 screws.
5. Find the green conductor tape that connects the touch pad to the control panel.
6. You will remove the green conductor tape from the control panel. DON'T just pull on it. There is a white piece of plastic that slides away from the control panel and toward the green conductor tape. It will remove pressure from the conductor tape and the conductor tape can then be disconnected from the control panel.
7. Get a good pencil eraser and clean off the exposed copper connectors in the conductor tape.
8. Place the conductor tape back into the control panel and slide the white plastic piece over it to reconnect the conductor tape to the control panel.
9. Replace cover on the control panel.
10. Reconnect the electrical connections from the inside cover to the control panel.
11. Place inside cover of the dishwasher over the proper screw holes - make sure the bottom of the inside cover is overlapping the bottom of the door - or the door won't shut properly.
12. Replace screws.
13. Turn on power and check.
It worked for me and saved me time waiting for a repairman and expense of the repair.

They shipped me a new control panel and the tech came back to replace it under warranty. It worked great until July 2013. Again, it is full of water and dirty dishes, won't turn on and has no lights on the front panel. I called Maytag to get a service tech. The warranty is expired of course.
They offered to sell me a replacement dishwasher at a discount for $409, Model # MDB7749SBW. Or I can buy an additional 1 year of warranty for $269. I also could buy a control board for about $150 online. None of these options is attractive right now, but hopefully if I get the new model, it will not have any issues... I wish they would just tell me it was a crap unit instead of giving me the option to either get a new one or pay for a useless warranty. Maytag Quiet Series 200 only 1.2 years old: I moved into my home about 2 months ago and the touch panel on the dishwasher, which is of course just past the warranty expiration date, has progressively gotten worse until now, doesn't work at all. I have tried calling Maytag many times on numerous occasions, who apparently only has one phone line because it's ALWAYS busy. The cost for the touch panel on this dishwasher (model# MDBH945AWS3) is $150 which isn't even worth fixing since I can go to Lowe's and buy a new FRIGIDAIRE for $300. The problem is the circuitry from the touch panel to the control board gets too much moisture in it with no protection around it. If I were them, I would find a way to make all these parts separate so regular people, like you and I, would be able to buy parts a lot more cheaply and repair these items ourselves.
However, since the front panel and the circuitry attached to it is all one cohesive unit that can't be taken apart from one another, nearly at all without ruining it, then I might have been posting a different review here. However, that is not the case. IF I could actually get in touch with Maytag, I would ask why on earth isn't this a recalled item and when they are shipping me a new part since it seems everyone is having the same issue with their Maytag dishwasher, no matter what "series" it is. I do not plan on buying a Maytag appliance in the future. I do plan on buying a Frigidaire since the rest of my appliances (stove, fridge and overhead microwave) work perfectly without any issues whatsoever.

I bought this Maytag dishwasher model mdb6709awq1 from Home Depot that installed it; they did a good job installing for a fair price. My gripe is with Maytag. I have owned a Maytag dishwasher since 1977. Back then it was the best you could buy. Since Maytag sold out to Whirlpool to save being bought by the Chinese, the design of the dishwasher has lost or gave up their unique design that made it so good and dependable. The inside of the rack/drawers has been totally changed. It used to have fold down racks on each side of bottom rack that was great for coffee mugs, small bowls/containers, and they came out sparkling clean. The utensil basket was centered front and again the utensils came out super clean.
Maytag sold their soul when they sold out to Whirlpool. Don't know if that was part of the deal that they give up their unique design or why did they change the rack design. I wish I still had my old Maytag from 1998 that yes, worked without a problem, then I sold the house with the dishwasher. Why is it that so many appliance makers have taken dependable workhorse designs and phased them out? What is wrong with an appliance lasting for years, decades without problems? Only thing I can think of is that they won't make millions every year as they only would sell so many a year if they are dependable as they won't need to be replaced.

After writing a polite but stern complaint to several of the executives at Maytag and Whirlpool we got a call from their executive assistant. She arranged to have a technician come out to our house and assess the installation. He found nothing wrong and Maytag replaced the control panel for free. The technician has seen numerous faulty electronic control panels, and not just with Maytag. He would not recommend a preferred make or model. He longed for the old mechanical timer switches, which we could no longer find in the newer models. With enough customer complaints maybe they will do something about the electronic control panel in the future.

About 3 years ago, we purchased a Maytag dishwasher (model MDB7609AWW1). A year and a half later, the control panel suddenly quit. You cannot run the dishwasher without the control panel. We purchased a new control panel. After complaining to Maytag about the failure and submitting a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, they reimbursed us $50 for the panel. To me, this indicates they were aware of a problem with the unit. Customer service recommended to put in a surge protector and open the door after the cycle. We did that.
A year and a half later, the control panel went out again! This time they are offering us to come out and fix it for $289 with a one-year warranty. No way! They have a design flaw, as you can see from the other complaints here, and are not willing to fess up to their mistake. They need to fix the problem and replace that control panel for free! Believe me, we will never buy a Maytag product again.

I had a Maytag dishwasher that I purchased around 2005. I had no issues with it at all. Then, I got a notice that it was being recalled due to a fire hazard. My options were to either get a repairman to come out and fix it, or get a credit towards a purchase of a new dishwasher. I chose the second option. Even after getting a credit, the purchase cost was way more than my original dishwasher. I purchased the new dishwasher in June of 2010.
Last spring (May 2012), I noticed a gap in my hardwood floors around the sink. A flooring rep looked around and said he would bet that there's a leak either at the sink or the dishwasher. I took off the front kick-plate to the dishwasher and discovered a wet spot. I monitored that area and discovered the leak coming from under the dishwasher (around the float switch). It wouldn't leak all the time, but every now and then, it would leak half to a full cup of water. I had the hardwood floor fixed (cost $350). At the same time, I schedule a service repair through Maytag. They sent a rep from a local repair company (Convenient Appliance Service, Inc.). The service rep couldn't identify the cause of the leak but said it was more than likely the seal around the door. So, I paid another $160 to get the repair done. I monitored the leak for a week and had no problems, so I put the kick-plate back on.
In September 2012, I noticed a wet spot in front of the dishwasher. I took off the kick-plate and discovered that the dishwasher was leaking again. This time the leak was worse. It would leak 1 to 2 cups of water during a wash cycle. I called the repair company and they came out free of charge to take a look at it. The service rep said the float switch had "gunk" build up in it. He cleaned it out and said that should fix the problem. I monitored the area for 2 weeks and everything seemed to be fine. Last week (March 2013), I noticed some gaps in the hardwood flooring around the sink and dishwasher. I pulled off the kick-plate and discovered a wet spot. I ran the dishwasher and discovered that it leaked a ton of water (over 4 cups). I contacted the repair company that came out last time, and they said they would have to charge me $100 plus to come out and take a look at the problem.
The rep recommended contacting Maytag. I contacted Maytag and they said I would either have to pay $129 for a service call (not including cost for parts), or $269 to get covered under their Repair Plus 1 program (everything's covered and it adds 1 year of warranty my dishwasher). I asked at what point Maytag would replace a dishwasher. The rep said when it is deemed unfixable. Other than that, they just keep coming out if I have issues. Part of me thought I need to cut my losses and just rip out the dishwasher and get a new one (cost somewhere around $700). But I went with the Repair Plus 1 program in hopes that they can resolve the issue. But I'm definitely going to have to get the hardwoods ripped out again. It looks worse than before. It’s probably going to run another $500.

I had a Maytag dishwasher for 17 years, and it has still worked fine when we moved to another state. At the end of 2010, I bought a new Maytag (1) because my old one performed so well and (2) we left it at our old house. Well, slightly over two years later, this piece of junk (Model MDB6709AWAQ1) needs almost $300 worth of repairs. The repairman said they are no longer made to last and have been that way since about the year 2000. All of the inner workings are run by electronics which only last about two years. I said, "What happened; the Maytag repairman got tired of sitting around doing nothing?" I would never ever purchase another Maytag dishwasher, or any other appliance made by them or Whirlpool which took over Maytag.

I had the exact same experience as the Tampa person with my Maytag dishwasher (Model: MDBTT60AWW). It was not cleaning the dishes, even when I thoroughly rinsed them. Plus, it started leaking midway through the cycle. Since the warranty was expired, I purchased an extended warranty in July 2012 for $296 (yes, in hindsight, I should have just bought a new appliance, not Maytag). I had 3 visits from 2 different technicians, both telling me the dishwasher did not leak. One telling me I was using the wrong kind of detergent and that's why dishes weren't getting cleaned. The other telling me that there were too much suds and that could cause it to leak. So, I should pour a tablespoon of cooking oil (yes, cooking oil) in the dishwasher when it starts leaking and that will cut down the suds. I don't think so!
Then, I found out a couple of weeks ago that this model was under a recall since 2010, not related to the leak at all. Yet, Maytag still sold me the extended warranty (where's the ethics of that?). I requested a pro-rated refund of the balance on the warranty - and wouldn't you know that with the technicians' service calls, the amount of time used on the warranty (6 months) plus an admin fee - I have used $296.48 of the warranty amount. It is almost to the exact penny of what I originally paid, so I will not be receiving any refund. They are only giving me a debit card of $150 or $250 once I buy a new Maytag to replace the recalled model. I do not want to continue down this frustrating path known as Maytag appliances.

My experience is very similar to Richard's below. I have an MDBH979AWS3 that was purchased new in April of 2010. Just over one month after my warranty expired, the touch panel ceased to work. Since it was no longer in warranty, I had to replace it out of pocket. The wiring harness to the old panel looked heat damaged. Last winter, the central computer died. The machine was useless. I called Maytag customer service and actually seemed to find a sympathetic ear. They agreed to a new part if I paid $129 for one of the two companies doing certified repair to install it. During the summer, it blew several fuses. Then in late November of this year, the touch panel went again. I hesitated on how to respond and waited until after the holidays to call them.
I got the most rude customer service rep that I've dealt with in a long time. Somehow, I was blamed for a misdiagnosis on the computer panel (duh, no, that was a different issue and it was indeed broken), accused of misuse of the dishwasher, and flatly told that they weren't going to do anything more on a machine. "So far, out of warranty." I'm sorry, but I can't accept that a machine under 3 years old should have 3 major failures. Maytag has to step up and at least look at this problem. From what I've read, this is a common problem that has resulted in several fires. Maytag has to know about this and continues to do nothing, not even issue a recall on the current touch panel used. I am now faced with putting another $100 in (which puts me at about $350 total on a machine I paid almost $500 for) or just buy a new product. Rest assured I will never buy another Maytag-Whirlpool appliance.

I bought model MDBM601AWB3 in October of 2009. The control panel and wiring harness burned in August of 2011 after, at the most, running twice a week. I called customer service and talked to numerous people. All said, "Too bad, out of warranty." I did a quick Google and learned it is a common problem and even a fire hazard with Maytag dishwashers. My wife, who was being treated for lung cancer at the time and was very emotional, got a hold of someone in corporate and literally cried that we could not afford the $600 to fix a problem they knew it had when they sold it to us. They relented and agreed to pay for parts; we pay labor. Today, 1/10/13, the control panel is dead again. I suspect it is the same problem as all they did was replace the panel and wires. This machine has obvious dangerous design flaws that they were aware of. I find it sad that a company can screw people like this and get away with it. What recourse do we have now?

Replacement part and service is about $400 per local appliance repair shop. They recommended buying a new dishwasher. However, I had seen testimonials on the web of dishwashers lasting on average 9 years - not Maytags. I will be avoiding Maytag for next purchase. Dear Maytag moron engineer: Look out the window and notice that every garden hose that is hooked up to a hydrant leaks! Why? Because it is a quick coupler design and made for short term outdoors. When it leaks, it is under the machine, a place where it is paramount to be dry. And when it leaks, the flooring is damaged! I am taking the old brass water shut off and putting it in the new machine so I can sleep at night. It lasted 10 years without losing a drop. You need to go back to engineering school!

We upgraded and purchased a new Maytag Dishwasher Quiet Series 300 MDBH955AWQ to benefit our new kitchen remodel. Initially, the dishwasher worked great. I routinely insist on keeping the filters and interior clean as I was raised up believing that if you take care of your equipment, it will take care of you. Very shortly after purchase, there was a fire recall which was taken care of by Maytag and a third party contractor. Then as time went on, it continuously rendered out dishes with debris and food on them. Then it stopped working. It turned out the latch or door handle broke on the pivot point on the interior of the door. I got that replaced and everything was good again. Then about three months later, of course after warranty, it would not start or anything. I verified power and connections and nothing. I spent about $60 on JustAnswer for further advice and the answer was to replace the control board.
After about $250 for a service call and $130 additional, it turned out the control board went out. I observed how it appeared to be a poor design due to the control board being exposed to all of the humidity and other moisture from within the dishwasher door. Then after that being fixed, about six months later, the door latch broke again. It's minor enough that you may not realize it's broken until you open the door panel back up again. The plastic is breaking I'm sure due to the heat and moisture, but it's just minor enough that it will not make contact to indicate the door is closed. I got that replaced again for another $140. Four months of that getting fixed and I'm getting the same result, no functionality at all from the control panel. In other words, the control board is out again!
I've spent almost as much in repairs that I have for the dishwasher in the first place. As many have stated before, why are we not getting quality products anymore? I went to the Maytag website to see if there were any other additional recalls for this dishwasher, and the recall site was down, so I called. The lady on the phone, as pleasant as she was, indicated that the recall for the heater coil was already performed, which I already knew. I asked, due to the other problems I've had and money I've spent, if there were any additional recalls, and of course the reply was no. I'm used to staying with a reputable company and providing loyalty to that company for quality products and service, even if I have to spend more initially in order to spend less overall. Obviously, Maytag is now out of the question for future business or referrals. This dishwasher is getting replaced before I put one more dime into it.

I bought a (Maytag brand) Whirlpool washer but it didn't clean clothes, so I had a repairman out. He ran it through their test and agreed that my clothes had lint, pet hair, and dirt on them, and said that was as good as it was going to get. No one called back from Whirlpool. I called them and a second repairman came out, but it was the same story. I got the same repairman back out again after several calls to Whirlpool and listened while he called in and answered questions from Whirlpool - Is she using HE laundry soap, etc. - the same things they asked me.
I bought the machine because it was supposed to have one of the largest capacities available. I stood there while the repairman told them that the clothes hanging to dry were covered in lint, dirty, and extremely wrinkled because they twist into a big knot in the machine, among others. No one called back again, so I called them. The service representative told me that I was loading the machine wrong, I was not using the right soap, and that the report they got from the repairman stated that the machine was working as intended. I told them that I was standing there as the repairman told them that my laundry was not clean. They told me that it was not what their record stated.
I thought washing machines were supposed to get laundry clean and get the smell of body odor out. They suggested that I use the bulky setting, so I asked them if I should have to use the bulky setting for a load of underwear. They said that the machine was working as intended, but I wanted to have someone else come back out. The appointment was scheduled, but then the repair company called me and asked if I was aware that I would have to pay for the service call. I explained that there must be some kind of mistake because it was a new machine. She told me that Whirlpool had been doing this for a while and they weren't sending out repair techs anymore without notifying the customer, and that Whirlpool has been doing it as standard practice for some time now. I requested a written statement from Whirlpool about the incidents but I was refused.

The last time was a few weeks after the warranty ran out. After a lot of discussions with Lowes management, they then took it back and gave me choice of any brand. We picked a Samsung and have had no problems so far.
As for the MDB8859AWS dishwasher, it was just stuck under the counter for the first 6 months of its life, because we were in the middle of a remodel and it wasn't plumbed in yet. Once we got it working, my wife loved it. We've used it maybe 40-50 times since she was still hand-washing small sink-loads of dishes. A month or so out of warranty, it went out. There were no lights on the keypad and everything was dead. We thought it was the main control board, but it wasn't. Next, I tried the keypad, because I've read many posts about these 2 things seeming to always go out on these models. I still have the fridge and stove, and hopefully they fare better than the microwave and dishwasher.
What kills me is when I look at my old Maytag dishwasher and Samsung counter top microwave in the garage; both 15-20 years old and still worked just fine after getting replaced. It has never had a repair of any kind. I went out and spent $639.00 (it was on sale, the regular price was $799) on a ** dishwasher and it didn't even last a year. I bought a Maytag MDB7809AWW2 dishwasher two years ago. The control panel just started doing free-games. Lights would come on and off during the cleaning cycle. When selecting a cleaning cycle, some functions would be automatically selected without the capability to deselect them. It is our second and last Maytag dishwasher. Stay away from them!

Same problem as all the others, the dishwasher stopped working. The dishwasher is less than three years old; for a two-adult household. The control panel just stopped getting power. After multiple calls to Whirlpool/Maytag, all they will do for me is "document my complaint". I'm now out $167 to get this thing running with no guarantee that it won't happen again, as well as the fact that this should not have happened in the first place. I didn't misuse my dishwasher. It just stopped! I think there needs to be a class action lawsuit since the manufacturer will not stand behind this obvious defect.

There should be a recall. Just look at the number of people complaining about this same exact occurrence about the control panel not activating. I'm on my second control panel in 24 months. Some people are on their fourth already. Give me a break. There needs to be a recall and a redesign of this thing, which turned out to be a piece of junk washer.

We purchased a Maytag dishwasher MBD7749AWM on 03/15/12 from Home Depot. The control panel went out on 01/24/12 under warranty. The unit was down approximately 2 weeks waiting for parts and a second service call. Just six months later (approximately 08/05/12), the control panel failed again. Thinking that a trusted American, iconic industry leader such as Maytag would stand behind their product, I called for what I thought would be a covered repair. I explained to a supervisor that their panels have not made it 1 year in service. She assured me there were no out of the ordinary problems with the panels for my model dishwasher in one breath, then stated they were out of parts and on backorder for three weeks. Now the truth comes out, further telling me that the unit is out of warranty and nothing can be done short of sending out a repairman, that I would be responsible for parts and service.
After further discussion, she reluctantly agreed to send me the part for free if I arrange the installation and told me that it was very simple to install. When the part finally showed up on my doorstep with no paperwork, it was wrong. When I called and complained for waiting 3 weeks for the wrong part because there was no quality control in their parts and shipping department, all they could do was say sorry. They told me just to keep the part they sent and they would send the correct part. I begged that they ship the correct part overnight and they adamantly stated that was not an option. "Maytag stipulates their process only allows ground shipping from FedEx per their contract." Knowing I had no other option, I agreed and waited for 5-day ground.
The part showed up 13 days later and delivered by USPS. Apparently, I was lied to again and the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. Apparently, Maytag/Whirlpool have an inadequate and poorly trained quality control system in place and their manufacturing and electronic divisions are surly lacking a strong management team needed to go in and clean house. Instead, the whole mess they have contributed to continues to haunt Maytag has continued to be made to believe it's okay to produce subpar products while continuing the complete demises of a once trusted American, iconic industry leader all while living on the Loral's of twenty years past.
Whirlpool would do itself and this country a huge service by just letting this brand die and thrown on the heaps of scrap steel headed for China where maybe they can copy and fix what they were not capable of.

This is a continuing aggravation! On July 27, I discovered the dishwasher (MDB7600AWW) tub had developed a crack in the bottom right rear and had warped my countertop and the floor under it was full of water! I called the appliance store where it was purchased and was told to call Maytag. I have a 20-year warranty on the tub with free replacement of the unit if it fails. I called Maytag and was told we needed a service call to verify. I scheduled it for July 30, and 3 minutes and $75 later, yup, tub is cracked. It's a known problem, and the dealer has already replaced some for customers. I called Maytag to get the ball rolling for replacement. I spoke with Jennifer and was told she'd get back to me.
Meanwhile, we went to several stores, checking out other Maytag models. So, I'd have some idea of what was available as a replacement. I called Jennifer on July 31 with a suggested model I'd find as a suitable replacement. She said she'd check and get back to me. On August 13, I called Jennifer for some answers, got the voicemail, and left a message. On August 14, I went online to chat. Finally, I was told I'd have a replacement in 10-12 days. I'd be contacted to schedule installation. On August 16, I called a local dealer again. He can't understand the problem. He'd replaced two others in a few days. He made some calls for us and gave us the name and phone for the company replacing the dishwasher as well as the work order. Installation was tentative for August 23. (He'd been cut out completely!)
I called Optimus Solutions, and they're awaiting shipment. Tentative installation was on August 23. On August 22, there's still no word. I called Maytag customer service. Sorry, it was shipped to the wrong address, so it was shipped back! It's now in transit and supposed to be delivered to Optimus Solutions today but not being scheduled for installation until August 31!
This has become one nightmare after another with everyone pointing the finger at the next guy. Phone calls get only the same runaround. No, speaking to a supervisor won't help - they'll tell me the same thing. Isn't that convenient! Meanwhile, I'm still washing dishes by hand and having psoriasis on my hands, which are like two pieces of raw meat right now. It is beyond aggravation; it's bordering on torture! (No, I can't wear gloves. They make my hands sweat and even more sore!) Besides, I shouldn't be washing dishes by hand. I paid for a dishwasher that failed through no fault of my own, and now, I'm being punished for purchasing it. I can guarantee that if I had no warranty and had to replace this dishwasher, it would have been replaced immediately!
Never again. I purchased all Maytag products for my new home. As they fail, I can guarantee I will not be replacing them with Maytag or Whirlpool, which now owns Maytag. I will be telling everyone who will listen to stay away from Whirlpool and Maytag, because their customer service sucks big time.

The dishwasher (model number MDB7100AWW, serial number 158462977YH) that was replaced due to recall for fear of fire hazard has only lasted two years. Is there any recall on the recall? Our dishwasher was purchased in 2001. We live approximately 30 miles from the former location of Maytag manufacture, Newton, IA. In our 39 years of marriage, we have always had Maytag appliances: washer, dryer, fridge, and dishwasher with long lasting results. Our previous dishwasher lasted 23 years. It is very disappointing to feel the need to replace a Maytag appliance, which we've always felt was industry standard after such a relatively short life! It no longer fills correctly, and trouble has been diagnosed by service tech as bad control board. It seems there's a possibility of fire hazard once again. Can you offer any help short of replacing appliance as cost of repairs does not seem effective? Thank you in advance for your attention.

My husband and I purchased the Maytag dishwasher model #MDB7609AWW2 in December 2010. July 2012, the control panel would not operate. I called Sears to schedule a repair appointment. (I did not have an extended warranty.) After reading review after review of complaints about Maytag and control panel issues and learning it is a very costly repair, I called Whirlpool which now owns Maytag. (Be advised, Maytag is not the quality product it once was). Reviews also indicate that the replaced control panels are failing within 6 months to a year and a half.
After talking to a person in the Maytag/Whirlpool service department, he suggested some things to do: unplug power, unlock control panel, etc. He determined it was most likely the control panel that needed to be replaced. I asked how long a new panel would last informing him of the complaints I'd read. All he would tell me was that I had the option to buy an extended warranty. We have decided not repair the dishwasher and will replace it with a non-Maytag and non-Whirlpool brand. I will never buy Maytag or any products made by Whirlpool again. For a major component of the dishwasher to last only a year and a half is unconscionable.

Almost nine years to the day after purchasing all Maytag appliances for our new home, we noticed excess steam coming from around the dishwasher (Model: MDB7600AWW). It buckled the countertop! My husband checked underneath and found the floor full of water. We called the appliance store we bought all our Maytag appliances from. They walked up through inspecting a few things and we discovered that there was a crack in the bottom right rear of the tub. A known problem, according to the appliance dealer. He had just replaced the same unit with the same problem for two other customers. There is a 20-year warranty on the tub, with free replacement of the unit if the tub develops a problem.
I called Maytag (now Whirlpool) and paid $75 for a three-minute service call. Yes, it's cracked. I called Maytag again and they said that they'll get back to me with replacement information (replacement models and such). I went online to check out models and then to local stores for hand-on inspection of models. I called Maytag with an acceptable replacement (in my opinion) and was told they would check and get back to me. Another week, no contact. I called and left a message - no return call. I went online the next day for a chat and was told a replacement would be made within 10-12 days.
Another week without contact, I called the appliance dealer again. He made calls, got a service number and the information on the dealership replacing the unit - not him! The unit is coming from Atlanta to a dealer outside Philadelphia! We would hear from them the next day. Another week passed without contact so I called the dealer again. He made more calls. Then, it seems that they shipped it to the wrong address (do you believe that?) and it will be another week. I called Maytag (Whirlpool) again, what a waste of time and breath.
Meanwhile, after talking to friends and relatives and even the dealer, I learned that other people have gotten replacements within three days! A month without a dishwasher and I suffer from psoriasis. My hands are like two pieces of raw meat at times, and washing dishes by hand is not a pleasant experience. No, I can't wear gloves as they make my hands sweat and even more sore.
My Maytag refrigerator/freezer had a recall problem a few years back, and Maytag took care of it in a snap! What's wrong with Whirlpool? It seems that Whirlpool is taking a good name - Maytag - and turning it into a dirty word. I am spreading the word - no Whirlpool, no Maytag! (My appliance dealer is now recommending GE for their great service). I was really dismayed to find out that Whirlpool has DirecTV too. That may explain why the service left me with a bad feeling the last time I had a problem. What a pity.

Sure enough, about one month after the warranty expired, it all falls apart. There is something wrong with the control panel and I can't get anything to work. I've been looking online and see that this is a common problem. So rather than throw more dough into the money pit, I'm purchasing a new, simple, uncomplicated GE Americana washer from Home Depot for $279. I bought a Maytag dishwasher (MDBH979AWW3) in Dec 2010 and it worked fine till yesterday, when the buttons on the right side of the control panel no longer works (about 1.5 years old). I went through the diagnosis and finally found that the control panel cable was at fault. The cable is part of the control panel and there is no way to replace it without replacing the whole panel. The issue is that the cable wire was made of printed circuit, which was eroded and broke. The new part costs more than $150. Ironically, the old dishwasher I replaced was also a Maytag and it was more than 20 years old and it was still working when I replaced it. I thought Maytag has reliable products and that's why I bought it. Obviously, the company is no longer the company it used to be.
I am very disappointed and will not buy another Maytag again. It appears that there are plenty unhappy customers with Maytag dishwashers and many point to the control panel problem. I brought this to the attention of Maytag. I was told there was nothing that they could do. Repair people were sent to my home several times to see if the noise could be fixed and unfortunately, it could not. This is the loudest dishwasher that I have ever had. I should have stayed with the same brand that was over 10 years old that died! Now the control panel blew out and will cost over $300 to have it fixed.
After reviewing the numerous complaints that you have on your dishwasher with the control panels not working, I would think Maytag would be more financially responsible in helping the people that have your products that no longer work after being less than three years old. Just a heads up, Maytag, I will be replacing instead of fixing and not with another Maytag product!

On October 14, 2009, my family bought a Maytag Dishwasher (model #MDBH979AWW) from Home Depot. It had run beautifully until last week, when the left-hand side of the control panel went dead. I then called the Maytag service number (800-688-9900) listed in the instruction manual and scheduled an appointment with the A&E Factory Service vendor for the following Friday (July 6th, 2012) between 8:00AM and 12:00PM.
Around 12:30PM, no one had arrived, so I called again. I was told by the agent that the technician was en route and would arrive at my home in forty five minutes. At 2PM, still nobody arrived. I rang again when I was then informed that my name had been strangely kicked out of the system and made available for a reschedule. Wanting to stick with a Maytag-approved business, I went ahead and scheduled the next earliest appointment available, Monday, July 9, 2012. The technician from A&E Factory Service that actually did show up reported that the entire control panel had to be replaced at a cost of $281.48. Interestingly, he added that he had seen other Maytag dishwashers with this exact same problem and recommended that I wait until the water settled before adding extra dishes during a cycle since water apparently leaks into the electronics via a small gap on the top of the inside of the door. Of course, there is nothing in the instructions warning against such.
I chose to fix the machine since I didn't have the money to purchase a new one. Are your dishwashers designed to last only a few years? We went to Home Depot and bought a Maytag front load dishwasher and dryer and microwave 3-1/2 years ago. The washer and dryer were put in right away. The dishwasher and microwave stayed in their box for another year due to us remodelling the house room by room and the kitchen wasn’t done for a year. We put the appliances in and the dishwasher panel went out in October 2011. The washer in April 2012 started having a failure 8 when it gets to the last spin and rinse in which takes a lot of shuffling clothes to get it to finish its cycle. Then last night, May 14th, 2012, the microwave caught fire and all I was doing was brew tea in a glass Pyrex measuring cup not to mention the fan didn't work from day one. The whole house was full of smoke and it melted the plastic. So the most I got out of 3 of these products is 3 years at the most.
This is very sad that we spent this much money and it lasted less than 5 years. I am writing this to warn consumers not to buy Maytag appliances. They should last longer than 3 years and are not cheap to buy. We updated our 25 years old dishwasher, which ironically still worked, to a Maytag we bought at a BrandsMart in GA in November 2010. Sixteen months later, the unit just died. The panel would light up, but would not run. We contacted Maytag and were assigned a repairman (The Appliance Guy) who could not come to fix the dishwasher until 5 days later. Once he finally showed up, I was informed by him that the control panel for the dishwasher had two shorts in it and "it would be cheaper for me to just buy a new dishwasher because the repair to this one would be $344.44". When I contacted the customer service for Maytag, they offered to let me pay for the repairs and then they would give me a six month service warranty for free. Does that make sense to anyone?
I could buy a totally different brand, brand-spanking-new and have a twelve month warranty with a better product. I asked to speak with Cheri's boss and got to speak with Aaron, who offered me the same spiel. Heavily scripted, "I apologize that you are dissatisfied, but all we can do is give you the service warranty for six months after you pay for the repair." I asked him if he was reading a script and he replied no. Now I know that he had probably repeated these same words twenty times a day. Here's a thought, Maytag claims to be a "green company", using less electricity and water, and saving the customer's money and yet they are filling up all the landfills with these appliances that are not even five years old. How is that being a green company?
You know how when you buy a nice new button-up shirt? The makers of that good quality shirt go ahead and sew an extra button on the inside bottom part of the shirt because they know that there's a chance you'll lose a button. Well, I'm thinking that Maytag should just start shipping a couple extra control panels in every box of Maytag dishwashers. Crazy idea, right? Okay, so an easier and cheaper way for Maytag to correct the problem is to stop making dishwashers. Go back to the drawing board, make the engineer who designed the control panel wash everyone's dishes (as punishment and he can get help from the customer service people because they're really doing nothing), start building the old design dishwasher that has the old switch and dial, and start respecting their customers. There, problems solved!

A local repairman came out to see it for $160, diagnosed it, and suggested that we call Maytag to see if they would give us the part because it was only a two-year old machine. He did say that the control panel was not a part that was troublesome!
Maytag offered an extended warranty for only $287 that would cover the part! The total repair cost was almost equal to the cost of a new machine. Home Depot, when consulted, acted as if they "know nothing." After reading about other people's experiences with this company, I feel that it is no longer an honorable company standing behind its products. In fact, the whole repair process is set up to rip off the consumer.
We will now look to purchase the best and cheapest non-Maytag product, not from Home Depot, and throw it away when it gives out, which more than likely will be soon. These companies have finally convinced me to do what I am sure what they have always wanted every consumer to do. Throw it away when it breaks down.

We purchased a Maytag Dishwasher Model #MDBTT60AWW3. Shortly after manufacturer warranty ran out, the control panel went out. Luckily we had purchased the extended warranty. The repair company came out and put a new control panel in it. Two months later, the control panel goes out again. The warranty firm sends out a different repair company. They replace the control panel again. This time it doesn't work. They replace some of the buttons as according to the repair person they aren't registering the correct OHM reading. It works again. Yay!.
A week later, it's not working again. The repair company is coming back. This is really starting to get old. Between the multiple times it has broken down, waiting for the repair company to come out, diagnose the problem and order parts, we have been without a dishwasher for approx. 2 months the multiple times it has broken down. I'm so fed up with this thing. I also will never ever buy another Maytag again. They need to have a major recall on these because of the terrible, terrible control panel. This isn't just me, it's a lot of people.

Our Maytag dishwasher was just past the 1-year mark when the control panel stopped working. A certified Maytag repair service came out to diagnose just that and charged us $89. Maytag sent the user interface out to us, and my husband noted that there was absolutely no way that the part could be installed wrong. The wires could only go one way. The repair service (DSM Appliance Service) wanted another $120 to install it. We installed it, and it still doesn't work. Maytag will no longer assist us in any way. I will never buy a Maytag or Whirlpool appliance again. After investigating, I see that this control panel issue has happened many, many times; and I wonder why there hasn't been something done about it.

I built a new house in 2006. As part of a builders package, we had all new stainless steel Maytag appliances installed. The side by side refrigerator compressor stopped after 26 months (of course, passed any warranty). No customer support through Maytag and as previously posted very scripted responses. Maytag microwave handle has broken off several times, the glass seal in the oven door was compromised and the inside glass is stained - most recently the on-going issue with my Maytag dishwasher model mdb5601.
I've already replaced the handle /door latch assembly twice and am confronted with the current dilemma if I should replace the control panel that now appears not to be working. It goes without saying that I will never purchase Maytag products again. However, I am not in a position to replace what are fairly new products. That being said, I am reluctant to purchase costly replacement parts given their poor performance and ratings as mentioned in this thread.

I bought a Maytag dishwasher in 9/2006. I was happy with it until 12/10 when it smoked and almost caught fire in the middle of the night! Luckily, I have a GFI circuit breaker and it shut the dishwasher off before it burned my house down. After researching on Google, I found out that my dishwasher had been recalled as a fire hazard, and I was never notified by Maytag. I called Maytag from my house phone and the automated system knew my name and address immediately just by me calling -- so they could have easily notified me but they chose not to.
I ended up getting a voucher to purchase a new dishwasher (model: MDB7709AWB2). The one year warranty has literally just expired, and the "Start/Resume", and the "Cancel/Drain" buttons no longer work. The replacement parts from Maytag cost $212.37, and that price does not include the price to get it installed from a service technician -- add on another $100-$200 depending on where you live. This is a known problem, and seems to repeat yearly! Another annoying thing about this dishwasher is the wheels on the racks. They don't glide easily and they constantly get off the track. I hate this dishwasher and I will never purchase another product from Maytag/Whirlpool/Jenn-Air again!

We bought our $600 Maytag dishwasher less than two years ago and have had three separate problems with it, from faulty instillation, to a faulty seal to faulty control panel. The first problem was covered under warranty, the second problem we fixed ourselves and the third problem, nothing can be done except pay an additional fee of $250+ for a new part. Maytag used to be a good name but with three problems in under two years, the only guarantee given is that if you buy one, be prepared for problems. The bottom basket costs $200 to replace, a third of the cost of a brand new dishwasher. Everything else about it is fine but my dishes will be chipping away. I was told they had no record of any complaints and offered to sell me an extended warranty for $269, but there was nothing else they could do for me. I ultimately had my repairman order the part and it was replaced. My repairman did say Maytag did upgrade the panel because of all the issues they were having with the panel. Control panel broken for a second time in 23 months: I purchased a Maytag dishwasher less than 2 years ago at Home Depot. 11 months later, the control panel went out. Specifically, the start/cancel buttons stopped working. A service tech called me under warranty; the control panel was shipped to me, and the tech fixed it. He also told me that they had had numerous problems with the control panels.
13 months later, the control panel went out; specifically, the start/cancel buttons stopped working (sounds familiar). I can get nothing from Maytag, except a demand for service fees or sales pitches for extended warranties (at a price that was half of what the dishwasher cost new). They also offered me the "free part" as long as I pay the service call fees. I told them to just to ship me the part and that I'd do it myself. Nope. I must pay the repairman. Now, they'll ship me the part if I pay for it, but they won't ship me the free part. It only comes with a service call.
Maytag also told me that there were no reports of problems with the start/cancel button, an obvious lie with a quick internet search. The customer service rep sounded like she knew I was getting treated badly and kept using the word "policy." Her supervisor was much more cocky and made sure I knew that I wasn't getting anything from her company.

Maytag will send me a $250 Prepaid MasterCard, providing that I: 1. Remove the old dishwasher myself. 2. Destroy the machine and/or render it inoperable. 3. Sign and date under "PROOF OF DESTRUCTION AFFIRMATION" that I have complied. Statement on the form (Your signature is your confirmation that you have complied). 4. Purchase a stainless steel machine (over $700). They list models you should buy. 5. Record on the form; Model Number, Serial Number, Purchase Price, Store where purchased, and Date purchased. 6. Send the signed Rebate Form back along with the sales slip. (Sales slip must show clearly Purchase Date, Purchase Price and Retailer Name). 7. Allow 6 to 8 weeks from the time the Rebate form is mailed.

The control board went out and because it was past the industry standard one-year warranty, we were told we need to pay the cost of repair and parts ourselves. Well, I came here and seen that there were numerous complaints about that board specifically with all their models of dishwashers. I called and raised hell two times, and then I found them on Facebook and publicly bashed them there on their own page. They got back to me there and gave me an email address to explain my problem with their product. So I did. I even copied this web address and pasted it to my complaint. First, they called me and offered the part at 50% off. I told them, "Go to hell. Even at 50% off the part combined with the tech's labor, I'm still better off buying a new machine and it will not be a Maytag ever again!"
A week after that another phone call came from them, this time saying they will cover the part 100%, but no labor. I agreed and for about $180 I got a new control panel installed and a one-year warranty on everything except cosmetic damage. Not bad, eh? Certainly not typical, I was told by the repair guy. However, we continue to have problems with the control panel and have had to replace it twice within the last six months. Each time, it cost us nearly $300. Upon searching online to see if others have had this problem, I found this site where many of you have had the same exact problem. It seems to me as though the control panel is defective and replacing the part will only be a short term solution until it breaks again. More than likely it will break after 90 days because that is when the warranty runs out.
I contacted the company to see if there was any recourse. I received a reply apologizing for my trouble with the product. But because it wasn't under warranty, they could not help me. I then called customer service and was told again there was nothing they could do for me. I requested to speak to someone who could help me understand why Maytag would not stand behind their product. I was told I could only speak to Lisa, their supervisor of customer service. I asked to speak to someone ranked higher than her, and she said that is not possible. I then asked for the contact information of the president. She could not provide me with an email or phone number, only an address. Here is the information: Jeff Fettig, **.
If anyone out there is a lawyer, maybe we could get a class action lawsuit going. It is obvious that this is a defective product and Maytag has chosen to ignore that fact and to ignore the fact that it is putting a strain on American families that take their hard earned money and invest it in what they think is a quality product. It is a deception on their part, and we should be smarter than they are and figure out a way to stop the deception. Please contact Jeff Fettig at Maytag and let him know your feelings. Also, think about filing a claim in small claims court. And finally, if you have a background in law, please post on this site any ideas how to get Maytag to stand behind their product and make right a wrong.

Occasionally gets to run after slamming door multiple times, but dispenser doesn't function properly. After trying to diagnose myself with door switches, connectors, etc., I caved in and called service. Service quoted $470 parts and labor to fix the problems, including control touch panel, dispenser, and control board (seems common from what I read here). Wish I had seen this string of posts before I called Maytag/Whirlpool customer service to see if they would 'help' before I did any repairs. The responses I got from the service rep were rigid and scripted. Only time she varied from the script was to explain that modern high-efficiency appliances don't tend to last as long as ones 20 years ago. 18 months? Really? I might buy that if it was a mechanical durability design issue.
Supervisor's responses were also scripted, pointing back to the 12-month warranty. She said she did a warranty search on my model and that there was no warranty concern for this problem (really?). If there was, she might be able to help me. I guess there is no warranty history because most failures are between 12-24 months and the consumer has to pay for replacement outside of warranty. No semblance of customer service or customer care, just repeating what is on their website. Response was: I am sorry you are dissatisfied with the product and my response, but there is nothing I am authorized do.
Sent an email to Maytag customer service regarding the problem and customer service interaction. They called back saying they stand by the original customer reps' response, but offered to have someone else come out to give a second opinion on the problem. From what I read here, that doesn't seem necessary. Wish Maytag/Whirlpool would at least acknowledge that there is a problem, even the auto industry seems to have figured out a way to equip the service industry with known recurring problem history (TSB) and offer token help to keep customer loyalty. We purchased our Maytag dishwasher (model MDB7609AWW2) on November 14th, 2009 from a local appliance shop in White Plains, NY. Total purchase price was $449, not including tax.
Sometime in November of 2011, the unit stopped working. I tried every simple test I could think of to hopefully reset the unit. Finishing the obvious checks, I researched some possible problems on the internet latch micro switch, drainage problem, dirty latch, etc. Frustrated as nothing got it working again, I called a repairman recommended to us by the appliance store.
The repairman charged me $75 for the visit just to tell me that the control board is shot. Even worse, and this is the reason for this letter, the part costs $329 plus $40 in labor! That is outrageous! If you do the math, I am facing the costs of a brand new unit to fix the old one. That might make sense if the unit was 8 years old but it is barely 2.
I have sat on the decision now for a few days as I am beyond upset and I never make good decisions when I feel like this. But to recap, Maytag manufactures an appliance where its basic function - turning on - fails in 2 years and the repair cost essentially totals (to use insurance parlance) the unit. I find this absolutely unacceptable.
I don’t expect Maytag to do anything for me. But I will say this; I plan on letting everyone I know just how this experience went. To make things worse, I am willing to pay for a quality unit but how does anyone know what that is anymore? For color, my grandmother has a KitchenAid dishwasher from the 1970s that is still running fine. No membrane controls, no delay functions or fancy BS super sanitary cycles and guess what, it has no control board, just plain old dials and buttons. Imagine that mechanical control? Built to last unlike the junk you see today.
To remedy, I plan on picking up a used machine from the classifieds. I’ll install it myself and be able to do this for 9 years at $449, assuming it only lasts one year (I’m finding these units for $50 used). I may get lucky and find an old one from the 70s that will last a lot longer than that.

I thought Maytag products were better than the other products so I paid a little more and got a Maytag only to find out that they are garbage. I purchased a new Maytag dishwasher (model #MDB4651awb3) for $300, in December of 2009. Seven months later, the dishwasher refused to start. Some lights on the front panel would remain on, while others would not respond. The Maytag repairman made a house call and replaced the front control panel, and vent. After the repair, the dishwasher worked fine for nine months. Then, the same thing happened again. It refused to start with the same front panel light problem.
I called Maytag, and since the machine was now past the one year warranty, they wanted $275 for an additional 1 year warranty, to repair the machine. Since I can buy a similar new machine for $25 more, and felt this was now an ongoing problem, (it would be the third panel in less than two years). I expected Maytag to offer more to take care of their lemon problem. Since they refused to reconcile the situation, they obviously no longer stand by their machines. I will no longer buy Maytag/ Whirlpool machines, and do not recommend them.

Upon remodeling our kitchen about 4 years ago, we decided to put in Maytag appliances, one of which was the dishwasher . On Nov.29th, our granddaughters were playing with our dog when they ran through the kitchen and the dog started to yelp and went down and started to bleed. As she went past the washer her leg was sliced open by the bottom of the washer door.
As it turns out, the bottom of the Maytag dishwasher doors has a sharp cut edge with no covers at all along the entire bottom of the door. We have also read about two children who have had the same thing happen to them. This is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. The first surgery as of now has been $3,600.00 because of cut tendons. It would be totally irresponsible not to warn all consumers of this extremely serious hazard considering most families let their small children play in the kitchen

I also am the unfortunate owner of a Maytag dishwasher Quiet Series 300. I bought it in April 2006. The control panel has been a problem since the first year of operation. Typically, one of the indicator lights would randomly go on and off during the machine's off mode. At other times, the control panel would not operate. However, if I waited a few hours, it would "dry out," enough and then would operate.
Apparently, steam leaks into the control panel and causes it to be erratic. This has been a problem with this design for many years and the Maytag Corporation has not cared enough about it's customers to correct the design flaw. I remember when the name "Maytag" indicated a top of the line product. Sadly, this is no longer the case. As a result, my loyalty to them has ceased.

First they made up a story as to not having my contact information. This is simply not true, as I purchased the dishwasher directly from Maytag. Three years ago there was another recall and the heating element caused another problem so Maytag replaced my dishwasher.
If a heating element overheats, it seems to me that a short-term affect could be overheating the control panel, causing it to malfunction. I read through a few recent complains and would also like to inquire about having this issue looked into by the Consumer Affairs.

I purchased the top model Maytag dishwasher, and within four uses, I noticed major water damage to the side of my cabinetry. I pulled out the dishwasher and realized it was coming from the side unit where water enters the tub. These things happen, and I phoned their customer service department expecting this unit to simply be replaced, being that it was less than a week old, and that I would have been left a satisfied customer.
They were willing to send a technician over to try to fix the problem, but not replace it. I now have to replace my cabinets, and maybe even my granite as it may be damaged in the removal process. I am not asking them to fix that even though the damage was caused by their dishwasher, but a new dishwasher, I did expect them to cover.
Their customer service stinks, and I suggest to anyone that if you have any problems with a new unit, the best thing to do is return it to where you bought it. I'm sure they will gladly give you a new unit and send the bad one back to Maytag. Dealing with Maytag's customer service is the worst thing you can do. They do everything in their power to not replace it. Instead, they'd rather lose a customer for life. What's sad for them is that I'm a builder, and I usually build approximately three houses per year. That's a lot of units they've lost sales on over a simple replacement of a dishwasher. It's not a good way to do business. The bottom line is, stay away from Maytag.

Do not buy a Maytag dishwasher with model # MDBH969AWB1. I bought this dishwasher last Dec. 2010. I could not use it for 2 weeks, because the door would not shut. The repair man came & fixed the door. Then when I actually got to use it and after it finished running the cycle, the tub was dripping with water all over--top, sides, door, bottom. I had to dry the dishes on the top rack, and I had to leave the door open for days in order for the inside to eventually get dry.
The first thing I noticed about this dishwasher when it was installed was that it was smaller than my other dishwasher. I hate the design because of the way they have made the racks plus because it is smaller--it holds less dishes than my old one did. I could actually get almost twice as many dishes in my old one than I can with this one. Do they not think of asking the consumer about what they want in a dishwasher instead of going ahead and making something that is not functional?
I am so frustrated with this thing; it has brought me to tears. I just today went to Sears and looked at their Kenmore dishwasher. It is designed more like my old one than any of the other makes out today. I wish I had checked this out, before I bought this Maytag. We've always heard how Maytag is at the top of the line with no problems, right? Don't believe it. I will never buy another one.
Whoever is designing these dishwashers need to go back to 1990 and take a look at how it was designed and then go back to making them like that. I loved my older dishwasher, and I wish I had never let them take it away. I wish I had taken the money I spent on this ridiculous Maytag and had my old one fixed no matter what the cost. I made a terrible mistake.
If you have an older dishwasher and it has given you good service for years, I suggest you have it fixed and keep it, because you will not like the performance of what they are selling today. It does not matter what brand you buy, they are all designed the same. Just take a look and compare them. But if you buy, please check out the Kenmore. I don't know if the performance is better, but the racks are better designed.
My old dishwasher was a Hotpoint. It was the cheapest one on the market, and it gave me the most wonderful service ever. The dishes were always very clean, the heating element was fantastic, and it always dried the dishes completely. I can't believe they would make a product like they do today and sell them for what they do. The heating element in them today is not as good or strong as what they used to make. That is why the dishes won't dry properly. You get way less than what you pay for.
Thinking a new dishwasher is the way to go, think again. Please, if at all possible, keep your old one and have it fixed over & over again. I hate this dishwasher. What a joke on the unsuspecting buyer.

I too have a Series 300 purchased in July 2009 that began balking at operating after a year or so. Finally, last April 2011, it would not start. I took it to a repairman, and the diagnosis is faulty control board. When he told me the price of the new board and installation ($135 + $70 labor), I said, "No thanks." He said, "Let me try something." And he disconnected the flat tape wire that leads into the board (You must remove the board from the door. It's very simple to do--just three screws), and he used a pencil eraser and removed an invisible film of corrosion from the tape end (copper). He put it back together, and it has worked fine until a few days ago.
Today, I disassembled the door, exposing the control board. I took it apart and removed the flat tape/wire and re-cleaned it with an eraser. Then I put it back together, and it was as good as new again. It was probably a 10-15 minute job from start to finish, and it's a bit of a nuisance, but very easy to do. And it sure beats a $200 repair that will likely just fail again in a year or so of use. I too never intend to buy another Maytag product.

I have a Maytag washing machine (MDBTT53AWW1). The total cost is $524 for machine plus installation. And the cost of yearly repair on this machine is $300.
I purchased this machine a year and 10 months ago in January 2010. A few months ago, the control panel started to only light up partially but the washing machine continued to run. A few days ago, when i tried to turn on the machine, it would not work--the control panel was no longer lighting up. I called a repair man recommended by Lowe's, and after explaining the problem over the phone, we scheduled a time for him to come (ten days later was his first available opening!).
Ten days later with a broken washing machine and doing all the washing by hand, the repair man came late. When I made the appointment, I was told he would come anytime from 8 to 11 a.m., and of course, he did not show up until almost 1:00 pm. When he finally arrived, all he did was look at the model and determined instantly that the reason our control panel was no longer working was due to a faulty design. This dishwasher allows the steam to escape through a small vent placed to the left of the control panel. The steam inevitably causes a short circuit, meaning that this will be a reoccurring problem every year.
He did not dismantle anything and was in my home for no more than 5 minutes. I was told the cost of a new control panel would be $141 plus his "labor fee" of $137. So all in all, if you purchase a Maytag appliance, the initial cost is irrelevant. If you purchase a Maytag appliance, you will spend almost $300 yearly to maintain it--basically the cost of a brand-new washing machine.
Something needs to be done; this is unacceptable. The least Maytag could do is provide all of us, fools who believed in their product and thought that they were of quality, with a free10-year warranty for this faulty machine which is pre-determined to break down every year as a result of their poor design planning.
Cost aside, what kind of world are we living in that major appliances are made to last just one year and then are to be thrown in the dump? There is no way I will pay $300 for the next ten years to maintain a product that is made to break. That is wasteful and disastrous for the environment. Shame on you, Maytag. You will be filling landfills around the country with your terrible products, and the world will be a worse place for it.

It was genuine Maytag parts in both cases.
I found out from the installer of the Kitchen Aid dishwasher that we just bought that there was supposed to be an engineering design problem with this Maytag model. Earlier calls to Maytag customer service never yielded that answer, even though I asked if people reported problems with the control panel in the dishwasher door for this model. I suggest that people carefully read the warranty on a Maytag dishwasher for electronics which is only for one year unless you go to an extended warranty, but not sure what that would even cover.

Thereafter (December 2008), the touch pad failed and I replaced it for $50. It is now August 2011, and that new touch pad is bad again, and this time, the part is $170. The Maytag will not run and the lighted display will not function from the start button. This was a $450 dishwasher that is now only five years old and useless.
In all fairness to Maytag, their customer service is very good and willing to work with customers. Unfortunately, the product is very inferior in my opinion. To have stupid stuff like a control touch pad failing every three years is absurd and the replacement cost makes fixing it a bad investment.
I will be going out this weekend and buying a brand-new inexpensive dishwasher that is on sale for $229. This model is not a Whirlpool product but it is a name brand.

I purchased my first Maytag dishwasher and it was recalled as being a fire hazard. I was offered to have it repaired or pay for an upgrade (approximately $200). I chose to pay and upgrade because I don't want a fire hazard in my home. After my paid replacement, I received a recall on the new dishwasher regarding the same issue (different model) and I chose once again to pay and upgrade (thinking that if I spent $700, I wouldn't have a problem).
In less than two months of installation, the dishwasher died in the middle of a cycle. Filled with water, I bailed it out and called Maytag. I told them that I wanted a new one and they told me that I was past the replacement period. They sent a service man out and he stated that it was a problem with model # MDB7709AWB2 and serial # F03002958. He said that it was easy to fix and said he had done it several times. So now, within less than 1 month before my warranty is expired, the dishwasher did the same thing--it died in the middle of the cycle and won't turn on.
I called Maytag and they told me that they would send out a third party repair company (JD Appliance) but I would have to wait for four days. I contacted Maytag and said that I was concerned about the dishwasher breaking down again for the same problem (bi metal unit blew). This is the second time it happened. Jeremy, the repair man, said that the first replacement was not installed properly and they should have replaced the entire unit. He stated that it was a common problem with that model, as did the first repairman in Dec 2010.
When I spoke to a supervisor named Kia at 800-344-1274, she stated that they had no known issues with this model. I said that it was not what the repairman told me as well as the Maytag dispatcher. They both said that the heat sensor (Bi Metal Thermal Unit Part No. W10258275) goes up and has to be replaced because it is overly sensitive. If you are out of warranty, it costs around $200 to have it fixed. I told Kia and she said that it was not documented in her file, therefore, it never happened.
I want to know my consumer rights to address this issue. I have paid for (on 3 occasions) a new dishwasher and have continuous issues that cost me money. I want an assurance like an extended warranty, free of charge, for the dishwasher that has already been repaired twice for the same exact problem. I have the original part that was improperly replaced to prove that it wasn't replaced to specifications, therefore, blowing it again. I was told by Kia that Maytag does not compensate or replace their products unless deemed not repairable by the technician. It doesn't matter how many time the same problem occurs. I would appreciate your attention to this matter.

We purchased a Maytag dishwasher from Home Depot in January 2009. We did not begin using it until perhaps March of 2009, so just over 2 years ago. It gets ran maybe 1 to 2 times per week. I went to turn it on a day ago and the right side of the control panel, where you press the "start" button, does not work. When I checked Maytag's website, I discovered there was a recall due to the heating element. So, I had the repair technician out and he told me that the control panel was bad and it would cost $300 for parts and labor to repair.
We paid $600 for this dishwasher. Of course, we have the option of purchasing a new dishwasher and receive a rebate but that ends up being more than just ordering parts and replacing them ourselves, but something only 2 years old should not break. From reading all the other complaints on this forum, I am surprised that Maytag has not done something about the control panel and the humidity issue which seems to cause the control panel to go out. This is an expensive fix which Maytag needs to address. Come on Maytag!

I bought a Maytag dishwasher less than two years ago. The Maytag repairman just informed me that the control panel, the control board and the harness were burnt and needed to be replaced with parts costing over $300. I said, "No, thanks." I paid him the $99 service call fee and called Maytag to see if they would help. Nope, they pretty much said, "tough luck."

I also have a Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwasher. The front panel has stopped working. It was a horrible dishwasher from the beginning. The dishes were streaky on the top rack. And I had to replace the rollers after just over a year. The upper rack has rust on it. The Maytag double ovens I bought at the same time had to be replaced within a year, as the racks damaged the porcelain interior. I also wish I had found your site before my purchases. My husband is not working now. So, I guess we will be washing dishes the old fashioned way.

I purchased a Maytag quiet series dishwasher (Model Number: MDB6759AWW) for $500.00 in May 2009. Three months later, I started experiencing difficulty with the control panel. One light would continue to blink and it would not do anything else. I called to have it repaired but by the time he was to come out, it started working again only to stop working again the next week.
On 7 Oct 09, the repairman came out and replaced the panel. Then, about six months later, it stopped working again. I called again but canceled the appointment because it started working again. Then, after having it for one year, it stopped working again and I called only to be told that it was no longer under warranty. Now, we can't get the control panel to do anything. From all the other similar complaints I have read, it seems like there is a defect with the control panel. A dishwasher should last for more than one to two years. This is very frustrating.

I bought a Maytag dishwasher on June 2008. This new Maytag dishwasher replaced an older Maytag dishwasher that caught fire and was recalled (I found this out after calling Maytag). The new dishwasher (Model: MDB 5601 AWB) also had a recalled part (heater coil) in February 2011. Two months ago, (the unit is now 3 years old), the control board started malfunctioning (certain cycles no longer work).
I called Maytag today (Aug 24, 2011) but I was told by a Maytag representative that there was nothing that they could do. After reading so many complaints, I am ready to file a class action suit. It seems that this company continues to perpetrate fraud against an unsuspecting consumer for they knowingly continue to manufacture defective products.

The dishwasher stopped working. The lights on left side of control panel aren't working; so, machine won't start. Then machine was purchased in January 2010 for $525 and not including installation. Kim says it will cost $129 for their repairman to come look at it.
I wished I had read the list of complaints on your site first.

I purchased a Maytag Dishwasher in Jan 2010. In Jan 2011, the electronic control panel failed. It was still under the 1 yr warranty so Maytag had it replaced. The repairman says there is a problem w/ steam/water getting into their front panels. One month later, the 2nd electronic control panel failed. Maytag replaced it again "as a courtesy". One month later, the 3rd electronic control panel failed. (Note: I would not open the door until the next day to avoid water/steam from entering the panel.)
Maytag refused to honor the replacement of the 3rd control panel even with threats of litigation. I wrote to Home Depot who had sold the unit. They contacted their Maytag buyer who replaced the dishwasher with a new one and installed it free of charge. I do believe Maytag has a design flaw. Hopefully, the new one will not fail but I am buying the extended warranty to be on the safe side.

The rinse-aid dispenser has gone out twice, in a little over a year. I don't actually think it was ever "fixed" after the repairman replaced some parts in it, when it was only 6 months old. I had always thought Maytag was top-of-the-line (prices still are), but since Whirlpool bought them, the quality has gone down. I will never own another Maytag again!

I purchased a Maytag washer (Centennial) and it does not clean clothes very well. I tried different detergents, pre-treaters, lighter loads, hand washing, restarting washer so to fill with more water -- everything that I could think of. I called troubleshooting and they were sorry to hear that I was dissatisfied and having issues; but I had tried everything they would have suggested. They said that they could schedule a service technician; but, if the cycles were about an hour long and I could hear the water being agitated, then I would be billed for the service call.

When we bought our first home, we renewed the kitchen and purchased brand new appliance from Home Depot, all from the Maytag brand. The appliances were delivered on August 2, 2009, but were not used until the end of August, when the kitchen was finished. My complaint is concerning the dishwasher model MDBH945AWW, the cost was $349.00. The control panel stopped working some time in May of 2010, nine months of having this appliance. I called Maytag customer service. They tried to give me a hard time, but after a few arguments, they contacted a local company to fix the appliance. So someone from that company came out one week later, spent two minutes, and said that he needed to order a brand new panel. It took them three weeks to come back to install it.
Here we are, a little over a year with the same problem. So we called Maytag, and they said that there was nothing that they could do. After a few complaints, they transferred us to a "manager", she said that she could give us the parts 50% off, one was $109 and the other $179. The same parts according to her were replaced last year. So we asked if there was a warranty on the parts. She said, "Yes, for one month". So if this breaks again in two months, we are going through this again. She was sorry but it was the company policy, so she couldn't do anything about it.

I purchased a quiet series dishwasher in March 2006. The control panel died in September 2007, then again in July 2008. It has happened again. The washer is only 5 years old and needs a third control panel. The product is defective, and it seems to be a very common complaint from all Maytag dishwasher owners. It needs to be recalled and/or replaced by the company. They are refusing to admit the defect.
The dishwasher sold for $800.00. The service repair is $145.00 each visit, and the part is $245.00 each time. That means I am paying well over $1000.00 for a defective product. I would like the company to admit there is a problem and repair or replace it.

We purchased a Maytag Dishwasher in July of 2009. The front panel has been replaced 3 times. It just went out again. The dishwasher model is MDC 4650AWB and the front panel isn't getting any attention from Maytag. The repairmen admit it is a bad front panel (a tiny wire that goes out and they are replacing them a lot.) Maytag doesn't seem interested in fixing. The dishwasher is a lemon and should be recalled.

I purchased a Maytag Quiet Series 300 model MDBH970AWW dishwasher in the fall of 2003. The middle of the plastic door handle has broken off. There is also rust on the racks. Other than those two problems, it's been a pretty good dishwasher. However, the door handle is an essential part of the dishwasher! With the middle part of the plastic door handle broken off, it is very hard to open, so one of these days we won't be able to open it.

I purchased my dishwasher about 4 years ago. After using it for a month or 2, I called Maytag because the dishes were not coming out clean. They sent a repair man out, who told me that I was loading the dishes correctly. But I needed to run the hot water first, because the unit does not heat water that well. That did not seem to make sense to me and I questioned him further. But he kept on insisting that I try the "hot water trick". Needless to say, it did not really work that well, but it did help a little. I called Maytag once or twice and got nowhere. I gave up in frustration.
Then the recall hit. I was actually happy about it thinking that maybe this would fix my problem. But no such luck. It was fine for a month or so. But now it is worse then ever! Dishes come out just as dirty as they went in.
Is there any help? Are there other people who are having the same problem? I figured that there must be.

We purchased a Maytag dishwasher (MDBH979AWS2) from Home Depot in August 2009. In January 2011, it simply stopped working. I got a repair guy out and he said the control panel needed to be replaced. That would cost us another $350 on top of the $550 we already paid. This is what kills me about the way businesses are run. Their warranties run out before anything goes wrong, and they expect you to buy extended service plans in case the $550 you already paid isn't enough to guarantee at least two years of useful life. I will never buy another Maytag appliance again and neither will my family. I hope the $550 was worth it.

My husband and I bought what we thought was the best dishwasher available to us, at Best Buy in Little Rock, AR in 2004, soon, after we were married. Within a year, the control motherboard, where you push the selections, went out. It was still under warranty, so we had it fixed. It went out again several months ago, but we don't have $250.00 to spend, on the very same problem. I always thought Maytag was the best, and that is why we purchased it. We cannot afford to have all these repairs. I know they no longer build and supply parts here in the USA, and that is probably why we are having this issue.
