I bought a Maytag dishwasher in 2019 in Home Depot for my new home. The dishwasher stopped washing dishes after two years and 6 months. The price of the new machine was 700$ and I did not buy the extended warranty. The trouble is circulation pump, that cost to install the new one from local service would be about 350$ plus the new pump 150$. I consider quality is very poor if the new dishwasher works only two years and then it is better to buy a new item than fix the old one. Never never buy Maytag production.

Purchased a Maytag dishwasher from Best Buy. We did not buy the extended warranty from BB because there is a warranty with Maytag. After 4 months of use the washer stopped working. We were unable to return it to Best Buy because we exceeded the 2 week return policy and needed to rely on Maytag's 1 year warranty. It took over 2 weeks to schedule a repair and he was unable to fix it, it needed an entirely new Control Board and UI panel. 3 weeks later he returned with the new parts. It worked for 10 days with the NEW Board and panel, it has now stopped working again. We are not able to replace it due to the California Lemon Law which allows a company 3 opportunities to fix it before replacing. Next time I will purchase the Best Buy warranty so I can replace this Maytag LEMON.

I purchased this $857 dishwasher from Lowe's in May, 2021. It broke in June, 2021. S&S Repair was sent by Maytag to repair. It took 3 weeks for them to come, then they discovered the motor and pump assembly had gone out. Parts were on backorder. It is now August, 13, 2021 and I still have no dishwasher. Lowe's would not replace this dishwasher. Maytag will not authorize a return. This is disgusting.

The dishwasher turns on of its own accord. Sometimes when you get too close to it, once in a while in the middle of the night, and most of the time when you latch the door. It does a great job cleaning the dishes, but to no avail because it's always in the middle of a cycle when you need them.

Wish there was some way to secure all dishwasher under the cabinets better. It tips forward slightly, but gets caught on counter top, so it won’t fall over. The dishwasher itself is truly amazing. I love the stainless steel inside. I ensure I use the dishwasher cleaner on hottest cycle once a month. I have no odors. Both racks hold up well and the silverware tray has never given me any problems. I even like the thin little third top rack, which is where I lay my larger flat knives or spatula. As long as I use the finish dishwasher cleaner, the dishes come out sparkling. And a few times I have forgotten to fill the finish container, the dishes still sparkle. My teenagers do the dishes a few times a week. They don’t wash them off ahead of time. On occasion I have to pick a few pieces of corn or food out of the bottom, but the dishes still sparkle and the leftover food caught on the drain, well it looks clean enough to eat. I would definitely buy it again.

The first thing you notice about this machine is that it is tinnier than your previous machine. Secondly, it is smaller inside compared to your previous machine. Thirdly you have to be careful in closing the door because you may accidentally touch the controls on the front of the door. The led lights are great but blinding if changes in the settings are required. It is quiet and cleans well but my feeling is that it is made to only last a very short time.

Purchased a Maytag MDB4949SHZ dishwasher new from Home Depot in January 2018 as part of an extensive home remodel and addition. Did not move back in permanently until late June 2019, so the unit was not used at all until then. It quit working in January 2021 and our local (Sandpoint, ID) appliance repairman diagnosed a bad motor and pump assembly (the main functional component of the dishwasher). The unit was marketed as having a "10 year warranty" and based on past experience with older Maytag appliances we purchased it. The fine print reveals that the "10 year warranty" applies only to components that are unlikely to ever wear out or fail; all the rest are covered by a one year warranty. Part cost is over $200 and does not include installation. Maytag "customer service" (45+ minute hold to speak to a live human) of no help. No way are we throwing good money after bad to fix it. Lesson learned; just purchased a Bosch.

We bought a Maytag Dishwasher - Model #MDB4949SHW a year and a half ago at a Home Depot Location. We had previously had a Whirlpool dishwasher for 13 years of heavy use, with no issues or difficulties. At the time we purchased our dishwasher, there were various different brands on sale, including the one we purchased. The sales rep at Home Depot advised us that although we could get a similar dishwasher for the same price, that this particular model had a 10 year warranty. When I heard that, all I heard was 10 worry free years. MY MISTAKE. I could never have imagined that a company such as Whirlpool would advertise a warranty, that in the end is made up of nothing but false advertising.

We ran a cycle during the Christmas holidays, and detected a funny smell of burnt rubber but didn't know what to make of it. I googled the issue and some people had had experiences with perhaps a plastic utensil or some other plastic, being burned by the heating element, so I figured that it's what might have happened. I ran another cycle the next day, and the smell was much less prominent so I thought the problem had gone away. The next time we ran a cycle, the water didn't drain. We called in a repair person, and was shocked to learn that both the drain pump and main control board needed replacing.

We got in touch with Whirlpool and low and behold, the only items they cover are nonsense items such as the racks, drum, tub...etc....in other words, the parts that are actually responsible for the running of the machine, are not covered, neither is LABOUR. Therefore, in my opinion, their warranty is trash and should not be relied upon under any circumstances. We purchased a new dishwasher just a year and a half ago, and are left with a heap of junk in our kitchen. Our options? Either spend $600.00 to $700.00 on repairs, possibly more, or buy a new dishwasher.

When I asked if there was anything they could do to at least mitigate my damages, I was told...."Sorry for your inconvenience...but do you have any other questions." I don't have any other questions...but I do have have a comment.... Make your products better....and don't print warranties that are utterly rubbish, false, and only serve to mislead the consumer. Needless to say, we will not be buying any more appliances from this company. Their one and only goal is profit for their shareholders with no regard whatsoever for the consumer. If I could give it ZERO stars, I most certainly would. :)

The inside is stainless steel (those are the quietest) and it has a child lock so my 2 yo grandson can push all the buttons he wants and he still can’t mess things up. I love the high temp and sanitize features and everything is always clean and dry when done. It seems like it takes a long time to run through all the cycles, though. That and no adjustable top rack are the only two things I miss with my previous dishwasher.

We had a Whirlpool dishwasher for 24 years, and when it was time to purchase a new one, I did a lot of research before choosing our Maytag. Reviews by other consumers who had purchased dishwashers was very helpful in making our decision, and we have had no problems in the almost 18 months that we have had this dishwasher. It is very quiet. It washes and dries the dishes with no streaks, although I wash off the dishes before loading them. It provides 5 cycles and 4 options and lights blink, when the washing and drying cycles are complete. I would recommend the Maytag, Model #MDB4949SHBO wholeheartedly.

After reading several of the reviews, it looks like Maytag doesn't get it - or maybe they do and it's a plot to make more money. Our dishwasher model MDB8959FSZ4 was installed in Dec. 2016. Within the year, it started leaking. After many service calls it was determined that the arms holding the upper rack were not installed properly and were pushing against the door and water was coming out. After that was replaced, we've had 2 years of relative good use. Now, it won't empty and that started after smelling something burning. The burning smell has gone away but it won't complete a cycle. Service tells us it's the drainage pump and that will cost nearly $500 to replace. We won't be spending another dime on this piece of crap. We'll replace it with NOT A MAYTAG. I'm wondering if it has to do with the control panel as many others have mentioned. We don't care to find out at this point. We are buying something else.

Our Maytag Dishwasher, Model MDB4949SDE2 was purchased May 14, 2016 at Home Depot for $470. It has performed perfectly until January 6, 2020, when a noise, loud enough to imitate grinding wheel, happened with every Start-Up attempt. An independent technician advised replacing the pump motor, thinking that perhaps some popcorn kernels had lodged in the system. (Kernels were cleaned out of the drain filter.)

We operated the unit after he left, and the noise began to diminish, eventually disappearing altogether after several loads. Today, February 26, 2020, the same tech found that the large, upper impeller was clogged (not rinsing completely) with citrus seeds and VARIOUS METAL SHAVINGS & SMALL PIECES OF WHAT WOULD BE CHOPPER BLADES FROM THE INTERNAL GARBAGE DISPOSAL. After reading the Maytag Dishwasher problems experienced by others (with repeated control panel failure, burning wires, leaks, and house fires), I consider us lucky to have none of those. We will not run the unit at night, nor with an empty house. Next problem, we will buy a Chinese made dishwasher, like GE.

Maytag Dishwasher model #MDB7759SAW3 continues the Whirlpool company legacy of subpar control panels in all of their dishwashers. It is telling that they have been allowed to market the exact same failing parts for well over a decade without any accountability. They had one recall circa 2007-2010 and pushed customers into purchasing the model I have which suffers from the exact same control panel design.

To further frustrate the consumer experience, Maytag customer service reps and supervisors allege that they have never heard of a customer having issues with their dishwasher control panel before. The panel beeps endlessly and refuses user input regardless of whether the door is opened or closed. After a power disconnect it will reset and sometimes allow one load to be washed before resuming the non stop beeping. If opened and closed during the beeping it will cycle through a completely new wash cycle on its own and resume beeping. Maytag customer service response this morning was, “thank you for being a Maytag customer”.

We will my be purchasing their replacement control panels as they are of poor quality and it is well documented that the new ones fail annually as well. These are “high end” appliances and are not inexpensive. We will simply cease to use whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore, Kitchenaid, etc. brands in our home and will advise everyone we know to protect themselves the same way.

We have always used Cascade dishwasher pods, but suddenly our dishes were being left with a gritty feeling film on them and I had to run them under water to rinse them after taking them out of the dishwasher. This model showed on Lowe's website that it has a food grinder, but it cannot even get rid of a single kernel of corn that might get left on a plate. After a load is completely washed and you open the door, there is a strong smell of detergent. If you run an EMPTY dishwasher with NO soap it creates an abundance of suds like there is still soap all in the tub!!

The repairman came out and called Maytag and they ran a "diagnostic" check on it and it said everything was okay. He said to run a cup of white vinegar through it and I did. It didn't help. Still lots of suds being produced when I run a cycle with NO dishes and NO soap!!! He said the food grinder doesn't actually grind or dispose of small particles of food, just grease!! What?!!!! We had to PAY $92 for the service call even though it is still under warranty just because the repairman and the Maytag guy on the phone couldn't figure out why this dishwasher is a hunk of junk!!!! Also, the top rack has clips on the side to lower and raise the rack. The outer sides of the top rack will only hold smaller glasses because these clips get in the way. The recommended solution was to offer a service visit at $99 to identify the issue, if it's no longer under warranty, I would pay for a return visit to come back with parts and installation at my own expense. The panel can pretty easily be replaced yourself, but most have found that this is only a temporary solution for 6 months to a year, before having to replace all over again. This is the easiest dishwasher to load and it holds an enormous amount of dishes of all sizes and shapes. Adjustable and removable racks-Yes both. Everything fits including my barbecue and oven racks! Amazing. Stainless interior-Yes including silverware rack. Cleaning- 10 out of 10. Even on a quick wash (59 min) cycle this dishwasher cleans everything!

I run a longer cycle just to sanitize if we have sickness in the house. Otherwise it is 59 minutes to finish. Drying-Like most dishwashers this one is only so-so in the drying department, especially on the short cycle. Without plastic containers or utensils the machine dries more completely. However, the amount of moisture remaining after a quick or regular cycle is minimal. The water tends to pool on bottoms of glasses and plastics mostly. Easy to dry by laying a cloth across top rack. Dries in just a few minutes.

My only suggestion to Maytag is to work on drying technology to make the machines more efficient and effective. However, that being said, I wouldn't trade this machine for any other. It has every feature I love and a 10-year warranty on parts as well! My machine cost around $600.00. It was neither the top nor the bottom of the line.

Faulty Maytag MDB8969 Dishwasher - BEWARE! Whirlpool, Jenn-Air, Amana, Maytag, KitchenAid... Are all brands that fall under Whirlpool. According to Better Business Bureau statistics there is less than 1 chance in 10 that you will get the Whirlpool product you are expecting! We purchased a new Maytag dishwasher at the end of 2016. Within a couple of weeks the dishwasher began failing: discharge pumps, heating elements, soap dispensers, door leaks, faulty racks, rinsing problems... Since purchasing the machine we have had to make 7 different service calls, all under warranty. The warranty service providers have been good but the machine has been a catastrophe, having been out of commission for several of the 18 months since being installed, and causing serious water damage to our kitchen floor (based on several other negative reviews this leaking is not an uncommon occurrence).

A few months into owning the machine, after our 3rd service call, we contacted Whirlpool, Customer Service and asked for the machine to be replaced. They refused to replace the machine but extended our warranty free of charge- better than nothing but not a cure to the problem and the only remedial action that Whirlpool was willing to offer. We didn't understand at that point that the problem of faulty and defective Whirlpool products was probably so huge that Whirlpool could not afford to provide a reasonable solution to their customers; leaving many, as witnessed on various product review sites, to bear the extreme frustration and associated expenses borne from the incurred failures. Unfortunately, here we are once again, requesting our 7th service call in less than 18 months, and asking once again for a replacement.

The Whirlpool response this time (CSR was not allowed to let us speak to her Supervisor in spite of trying to negotiate that for several minutes) was that they would not replace the defective machine but would sell us a new $850 machine for $250 and would dispose of the faulty machine for an additional $25. Whirlpool would not however pay for the uninstall of the faulty unit nor the install of the new unit (about $350) which would have to come out of our pocket. We won’t be spending the additional $600 to fix this problem as proposed by Whirlpool; we won’t be installing another Maytag product in our home. We were advised that we could fill out a form if we wanted, to try and claim for the damages which the dishwasher caused to our kitchen floor. The form was never emailed as agreed and now we are just really tired of the whole experience so will simply put this all behind us.

Our Whirlpool experience has been extremely stressful and quite expensive. It is clear to us that if an appliance which is averaging a serious failure every 3 months since the first day of installation, does not in the opinion of Whirlpool warrant a full and prompt replacement, or even the direct telephone attention of a Customer Service Supervisor, that the Whirlpool quality standard must be so low, the failure frequencies so high, that the number of similar failures prohibits any commercial viability to manage the problems in a reputable manner.

Whirlpool clearly has some very large problems. It would not have been easy to destroy the once highly respected "Maytag" name. Such degradation could only take place as a result of continuous and ongoing Whirlpool quality degradation. We will no longer be their ‘crash test dummies’ but I do hope for the sake of Whirlpool (apparently North American made) that they take ownership of their poor quality condition, realign and spend the next few years becoming the company that we all once knew and respected.

Maytag dishwasher mdbh979sam1 - Every single one of the Maytag/whirlpool dishwashers with soft pushbuttons and LEDs will fail--check it on YouTube. They have a very thin printed circuit strip from the door controller to the brains, and this rusts through in a few years. You must buy the whole controller for $150, you can't replace just the ribbon. And you'll be doing this every few years. Maytag disavows this if you call them. The design runs the steam past this ribbon, so it corrodes really fast. Get a real pushbutton or a real dial knob model instead. With this model, the issue shows up when the LED pushbuttons stop responding or randomly light.

Bought a MDB7601AWW, and then replaced front panel to stainless. Configuration options are great (can’t find better at cost up to $1,200.00)! I haven’t had an issue with any stains on non-stainless tub. Problem is now control panel failing for second time. After 1st time, sealed all connections in silicone to prevent steam from affecting it, as recommended on DIY video. I just replaced the door latch, thinking that may solve it, but hard to troubleshoot without any indicator lights. This second failure (2 yrs later) shows no indication that steam or water caused it. It does start now, stuck on heavy wash, heated dry, sanitize - per top lights. Front lights totally out.

Debating whether to buy a new dishwasher ($$$) and give up super config (hard to find fold-down tines and fold-down small shelves on upper and lower racks, clips for small items, and basket that can be changed, placed anywhere) or spend at least $162 for the panel AGAIN and hope I get another 2 years from that while trusting that some other element doesn’t go out.

I believe Maytag should, at minimum, make the panel reasonably priced by offering a rebate, since the part is not sold directly through them. Obviously this problem is a design flaw. I am the only one in the house, so the dishwasher is not under heavy use. At least I found how to replace it myself on YouTube, though it requires the door to be completely taken apart and would be easier with an extra set of hands and a younger back. Hard decision since it seems newer, expensive appliances have problems as well. If I buy new, I will not hesitate to get an extended warranty (1st time ever).

However, in September, 2014 (2 months out of warranty!!), the control panel stopped working. I called the 800 number and the best they could do is to extend the warranty for 6 months BUT only after we paid for repair and control board replacement. This is not cheap!!! We were furious. I looked if there were recalls on this model but there is not (should be). Anyway, after we paid for repairs and a new control panel put in ($160.00 +- for part itself), we were very cautious about touching anything on that dishwasher. YOU HAVE an issue with design and I can give you link after link of other customers who have expressed the same thing. So, here we are in 2017... About 2 months ago, we noticed the exact same symptoms with the control board.

In fact the ONLY way we could start the dishwasher was to turn off the breaker, let it sit for 20 minutes - overnight and then turn back on and hit the start button. We lost all control over the settings. Only auto clean and delay 2 hours were working. Yesterday, I purchased yet another control board ($179 incl tax and shipping). I plan to install myself. If I could afford another dishwasher, I would do it and never buy Maytag again. Maytag really ought to be ashamed and if they were truly concerned they would offer these defective parts at a steep discount or better yet, recall. I plan on submitting something about this issue with any consumer group I can find. I guess the only way to spread the word and perhaps force a company to respond is to post on social media anymore. This is NOT a 'like'.

I had replaced a previous dishwasher only a short time before the flood. This dishwasher is JUNK. I was lucky I bought a five year extended warranty on it which actually gave me 6 years. I needed it. Within a year the control panel went. Then water started spraying out the side of door. Then it sounded like it was crushing ice every time I ran it. Then the control panel went out again. Ice noise came back again. Control panel a 3rd time. It runs for hours as it is.

Now the warranty is expired and last time I ran it the start light was blinking a few hours later. We were having high winds on and off so I thought maybe the power went on and off and that’s why it was blinking. Today I turned it on and after about 45 minutes I realized I didn’t hear it running anymore so I got up and looked and sure enough it wasn’t on. Normally the clean light is lit when done. I opened the dishwasher to see it filled with water still. I tried to hit cancel/drain but nothing works yet again. Wonderful news for a single mom that can’t afford to fix this over and over! Maytag is the worse company. Their dishwashers are horrible and they should be doing something about this as I’m not the only one that has had this issue. Home Depot was just as useless. Adding all these products to the dishwasher does not fix a poorly designed product. This product does not clean the dishes, even with rinse aid the glasses come out cloudy. I purchased the Maytag MDB8959SBS dishwasher back in 2014. I have historically been a Bosch guy when it comes to dishwashers but I have been so happy with my Maytag Maxima washer and dryer, I wanted to give their dishwasher a chance. Well, it has been a major disappointment, to say the least. For starters, it just doesn't clean that well. I am very careful in how I load a dishwasher. I do not put baking sheets across the bottom rack lol. Consistently we find dirty dishes.

Then after about a 6 months, I noticed the paint on the adjacent cabinets were peeling in spots (near the top and bottom corners). I started feeling around the outside of the door during the wash cycle and there was a fair amount of moisture collecting around the outside of the dishwasher seal (or non-seal). Fast forward to about a month ago, I noticed a burning smell in the kitchen while it was running. Did the typical check the heating element routine thinking something fell down and was burning. However, it was perfectly clean. Emptied it completely and ran a totally empty load. The smell was still there. I eventually figured out the smell was emanating from the upper right corner of the door. Coincidentally this was right above the location of the control board. I grabbed a tool and carefully removed the front panel and discovered wires were melted (some fused together) and even the inside of the panel (which is plastic) was melted in spots as well.

So yes, I could have contacted Maytag and sent pictures and fought with them over a repair but to be honest, I have no interest in keeping this appliance. It has been trouble since day one. Again, to be fair, I have had good luck with their other appliances but this was an awful experience and a total waste of money. I have since gone back to Bosch and could not be happier.

Plumber discovered the dishwasher fill valve had failed but because there was so much insulation on the kick plate, at the bottom of the dishwasher, it forced the water, which was in a pan under the dishwasher, to push the water to the back by the wall and under the flooring. Plumber said, the insulation acted like a dam to keep the water from showing in the front of the dishwasher. The first and subsequent bubbles, in vinyl were 3 feet away from the dishwasher. No way to tell the dishwasher had the problem. Has anyone experienced this problem? If not, take care to remove the kickplate and check your dishwasher for water problems.

On April 8, 2017 I was sitting in my Dining room with Dishwasher in the kitchen in cycle cleaning. All of a sudden I heard electrical sizzling and turned to see my Dishwasher was on fire. I got up and opened the door and my Husband shut off the circuit breaker for the Dishwasher. He raced to turn off water under sink and went to disconnect the dishwasher when all of a sudden hot water was shooting all over the place. I tried to catch in a bucket but it was so hot and shooting out hose fast. Kitchen and Dining room were then filled with water. He realized the turnoff under sink was installed at time of house built and can't be fixed without a lot of chopping up under cement.

Well finally we cleaned up the mess with mop and towels and relieved neither one of us fell at our age. He unconnected the Dishwasher and secured outside. About 2010 there was a recall on this model Maytag. I reported it and a repair man came to change the cycle panel and said it would be fine, not. Yes almost 7 years later a fire occurred. Just glad we caught it in time without losing our lives or my house. Never, never again will I purchase a Maytag.

Purchased this Whirlpool made Maytag Stainless Steel dishwasher Feb 2013. By Jan 2017 the washer was no longer operational. Due to poor factory design the touch pad wiring harness was crushed during the initial assembly. The harness is routed behind the touch pad/pull handle faceplate in the door. The factory design provided no clearance for the harness. Obviously after little use (opening and closing of the door) the pinched portion of the harness behind the pull handle becomes compromised causing the ELECTRICAL SHORT.

I phoned Whirlpool the maker of the Maytag Stainless Steel Dishwasher for assistance, all they offered was a "repair plan" in excess of $300.00. I purchased this supposedly quality American Made Whirlpool product as well as a range, microwave, washer and dryer in the spirit of supporting US labor. Now I'm stuck with a dishwasher that has an ELECTRICAL SHORT, possibly a FIRE HAZARD and Whirlpool trying to milk me for more money. Please think twice before purchasing anything from this Michigan based company.

We bought a new dishwasher 2 years ago. Top of the line Maytag Model #MDB8959SBW3 $749 plus tax. We bought this one because they told us what a great 10 year warranty it had. Found out that is a lie. The only thing the 10 year warranty covers is the stainless steel tub, the racks and chopper blade. The stop button on the control panel (circuit board) quit working and the dishwasher wouldn't start. When I called Maytag they said "So sorry. It broke so soon, but that is not covered".

We were told by a repair shop that Maytag has had nothing but problems with their control panel and the control panel part alone is $150 plus tax plus installation. Our old Maytag lasted 13 years and was still running great, but needed to be replaced because the racks were rusting out. I wish I would have kept the old one. I will never buy Maytag again since it is now made by Whirlpool. If Maytag is having so many problems with their control panel, they should be recalling them.

I load plenty of dishes into the space. It has extra pockets for little things and it has plenty of hooks and hangers to use for bigger cycles. Kenmore Dishwasher runs great. Very efficient and cleans the tough stains better than any dishwasher I've ever used. I would recommend this to anyone looking to buy a dishwasher. Of all the dishwashers I researched at Lowe's and Home Depot and Sears and Ace and other local stores, the Maytag was the lowest price with all the features I wanted.

I have all the same problems as everyone else, flashing lights, the washer does not properly respond to the input from the control panel... I was told that even though it was out of warranty, "as a gesture of goodwill" Maytag is sending out an authorized repair service to fix whatever is wrong at no cost to me at all... Tells me that there really is an underlying issue. Anyway best of luck to anyone else in the same boat. I am about to replace the control panel on my Maytag dishwasher (MDB7749SAM1) for the second time since purchasing it in 2012. Additionally, I have replaced the door gasket twice, as it becomes loose and does not properly seal, causing water to leak from the door during the wash cycle. There are many documented complaints of corrosion on the control panel ribbon cable necessitating replacement of the entire unit. If there were a way to replace the ribbon cable instead of the entire panel, it might be a bit easier to swallow the repair expense.

Either way, it is ridiculous to have to spend almost 1/3 the original cost of the dishwasher to make it usable again, and twice in only 5 years time! My previous dishwasher was 30 years old and still functioning (though noisily) when I replaced it with this expensive lemon. I have not contacted Maytag, as it is not in warranty, however, it seems that a major appliance should last longer than a couple of years without issues.

I was having similar issues with my Maytag model MD dishwasher. The unit was operating, and then the start/resume light began flashing. Didn't think much about it since the machine continued to run. But the machine wouldn't cycle off, or rinse or dry. It continued to run, with the start/resume light flashing. When I opened the door and hit cancel, the unit turned off. Several minutes later, the normal light and heated dry lights came on, and soon after, the unit started up by itself (Twilight Zone music is going off in my head). I let it continue to see what it was going to do. It ran, and ran, and ran some more. I stopped it and secured the power to it, left the power off for a very long time. Started it up, no joy.

I began reading the blogs sent in by other frustrated Maytag owners, we are numerous. I went back and re-read some of the posts that dealt with resetting the control panel. The one that mentioned; press Hi Temp. then Start/Resume about 3 times consecutively, that did the trick. Thank you for that useful piece of info. Saved me 143.00 plus tax and shipping for the new control panel (for now). I found some very helpful MO's (Maytag owners). I also found something very frustrating, with so many unhappy customers dealing with the similar issue. I would think that Maytag would put out a technical alert that deals with these problems. Instead, we get these so-called Maytag experts that magically appear on your computer screen. They ask you, "what seems to be the problem".

So after I described the issue, I asked the Pro, how to prove that the issue is with the control panel, or the elect. control board, both parts are 143.00 ea. (Just trying to limit my pain.) They send me to a page that wants to charge me 28.00 for the answer. What an insult. We pay 500-800 dollars for these units that should last more than 4 yrs. and some doofus is charging you for answers that saves you the consumer money and frustration. I, like many in the Maytag blog, will never purchase a Maytag product again.

This lasted a short time, and then lights on the panel would stay on, and not allow you to choose any options. I reset our breaker and this alleviated the problem for another week or so. Then it stopped working all together.

A quick Google search and it was obvious Maytag has a MAJOR and KNOWN issue with this model. The ribbon going into the faceplate/ control board sits directly behind the port that exhausts the steam. This ribbon over time becomes corroded and eventually malfunctions. I called customer support. They were completely unwilling to acknowledge the problem and also unwilling to help in any way. They offered to sell me an extended warranty @ $329.00 that would cover the service call and repair. Very unhappy that their product has an obvious defect/ flaw and they are completely unwilling to acknowledge/ or stand behind their product. On 8/26/16, we purchased a top-of-the-line Maytag dishwasher from Lowe's of Palm Bay, Fl. It began leaking water out one side shortly after installation. Because of a hospitalization, we were not able to report the problem to Lowe's until the first part of December. A repairman from Brandt's in Sebastian, Fl. came out on 12/6/16 and said it might be the door gasket, but he did not have a new one with him and if it continued, to call back. I called again and another repairman from Brandt's came out on 1/3/17. He said it was out of square and he took out 2 screws and said to cut back on detergent because too many suds could cause it to leak (which we find ludicrous). Now it leaks on both sides. This is not a small leak; it soaks the bath towel we put under the door.

On 1/11/17 Brandt's sent 2 repairmen out and they claimed we needed to cut way back on detergent and put in a capful of salad oil because our water softener is causing the suds which causes the leak. We now use 1/2 teaspoon of detergent and the capful of salad oil. It is still leaking. Our previous Kitchen Aid dishwasher never leaked and we used the recommended amount of detergent in it. We are apparently stuck with a brand-new dishwasher that cannot be fixed. We will NEVER buy another Maytag appliance.

Problems with Maytag dishwasher, purchased at Sears Canada Model MDB7749S is only a couple of years old, and as such is no longer under warranty. This Dishwasher is less than 3 years old! Both the interior and exterior is stainless steel and looks virtually new. Cost of parts and labour to repair amount to more than a new dishwasher--this is unacceptable. Poor design. Little value compared to cost. First issue: bottom rack wheels fall off because the plastic pin holding the plastic wheels on the rack become fall out, leaving no way to hold the wheels onto the rack. Second issue: faulty design of the integrated door handle and control panel on the exterior door face. The control panel pops out of the front cover panel when door is pulled open. With some struggle it can be popped back in.

I agree with another reviewer who wrote: "The design of the faceplate is defective in that too much force is applied to the faceplate when opening the unit. The handle is integrated in to the faceplate. The plastic used becomes brittle over time and breaks. The panel unit (W10811169) must be replaced in entirety rather than just its housing increasing the cost of repair. To have this failure occur within the first 3 years of use is very premature. The dishwasher was out of warranty so I decided to attempt to fix it. I took the faceplate off to realize all of the plastic tabs that screws go in to were snapped off. The only fix for this is a complete new panel from Whirlpool Parts Online to the tune of $194.17 (W10811169).

The wheels also fall off the bottom rack. The push pin plastic becomes brittle over time and does not stay in the assembly. To replace the wheel assembly (there are 4 in total) is $38.18 each (W10195416V). The wheels or push pins can't be purchased separately. Both of these items are not covered under warranty past 1 year. Maytag's 10 year warranty only covers the upper and Lower Racks (excludes cup shelf and silverware basket), chopper blade and stainless steel tub and inner door liner. So only a small percentage of the parts.

The design of the faceplate is defective in that too much force is applied to the faceplate when opening the unit. The handle is integrated in to the faceplate. The plastic used becomes brittle over time and breaks. The panel unit (W10811169) must be replaced in entirety rather than just its housing increasing the cost of repair. I purchased my Maytag MDB7749AWM2 dishwasher approximately 3 years ago. Since it was stainless inside and out I felt that I was making a long-lasting purchase. The handle on this particular model doesn't have a latch release button. You are actually just pulling the door open. That would be fine if they had used something besides plastic on the control panel cover where the handle is built into. The control panel is only held together with plastic pieces that the screws go into.

After only a couple of years of pulling on this the plastic parts holding the screws have all broken causing my control panel to just flash. My husband is a maintenance engineer and upon taking the screws out couldn't believe with such a high quality machine that they had used plastic in the main place where they needed strength. The wiring was cut so short to the control panel that one of the plugs had come undone when the cover began separating. I only need the plastic cover because my control panel is working fine but of course you have to buy the entire control unit which is $150.

I purchased Maytag because I thought they represented a reputable American company but I was very wrong. When I contacted Maytag about the problem they were very unconcerned and just gave me a link where I could purchase the part. When I told them it would be my last Maytag product they didn't even have a comment. Giving Made in America a bad name.

They are poor quality.

The control panel and the electronic control box had to be replaced after only two years of use. It cost almost as much as a new dishwasher (492 dollars). The model of the Maytag dishwasher is MDB77479SBM3. This dishwasher looks good from the outside and runs quite but the electronics are cheap and can't stand heat without melting. My wife and I are retired and only used this washer about twice per week. It looks good, cost 650 bucks and it is a pile of junk. No more Maytag in our house. We had this machine installed in July of 2014... It crapped out in July of 2016.

We purchased a Maytag MDB7749SBWO Maytag dishwasher. Suddenly the control panel does not work. Trying to find out why I found that there are thousands of complaints about this known defect with water and steam getting in and corroding the control panel. Shame on Maytag for continuing to sell these without fixing the problem. I expected my dishwasher to last many years based on the Maytag reputation instead I need to replace it. I am not going to spend the money on a repair with a machine that will have the same problem again according to other consumers.

I have only had this Maytag dishwasher for 2 years. My control panel has gone crazy! The child lock is blinking and I never touched it. I have tried to clear it by touching the heated dry button for 3 seconds, every once in a while it will clear. It eventually will start blinking again on child lock. I did research and have found out that I'm not the only one that is having this problem. I now have to get it fixed.

The 2013 Maytag dishwasher panel broke 13 months after the purchase. After several phone calls and complaints they agreed to replace the panel at no charge. Since yesterday I have the same problem and need them to replace this washer. I am on a limited SS income and I am not in a position to purchase another washer after 3 yrs. My previous one lasted almost 15 yrs. This is totally unfair and I hope that Maytag replaces this entire machine, not just another repair. It will cost them a lot less to do that by either sending or having LOWE'S to replace this one. Thank you so much.

Updated on 09/16/2016: Maytag is asking $300 to fix it and they will not replace it. So, by coincidence a friend of mine had the same problem and she did the following and I repeated these steps and now dishwasher is working. Turn off the switch or unplug, or turn off from the circuit box, your dishwasher. This cuts off electricity to the washer totally. Wait 30 seconds. Push the "cancel" button and hold on pressing it for 30 seconds (precisely, not less). Push then, the "start" button and hold on for 30 seconds again. Turn on the power and the cancel light will come on and let the cycle finish do not touch anything, until it is turned off and the light goes off by itself. Then, choose your selection for washing push start and see if it works. It did with mine and hers. Good luck and LADIES- YOU CAN DO IT, if this little old woman did it by herself.

Purchased a new Maytag dishwasher just under 1 year ago. After a 5 months it started not working. We called the dealer - who gave us a number to call because it was under warranty. We called the number and it took days to get someone to "look at it" and not fix it. It needed a new part. It's been over a week now and we haven't heard anything, and still no working dishwasher. Our last two dishwashers lasted over 18 years. Kenmore and Whirlpool, never had any issues. This is our first Maytag. Service has been snail pace slow. Don't buy a Maytag dishwasher unless you want to spend your life washing dishes.

I purchased a Maytag dishwasher four years ago and it has been serviced six times in those four years. Not just small things, main parts. Control board twice, control panel twice, and cleaning terribly the other two. They replaced the control board once and then would not do anything after that. I just got it replaced four years into this nightmare only because I bought a Sears home warranty plan and they are replacing it. I would never buy a Maytag appliance ever again.

Note:This is in response to a very poor customer service experience with Maytag about a dishwasher purchased. We bought a Maytag dishwasher 19 years ago, and we used it nearly every day without any problems. Recently the plastic retainer for the door spring broke. The retainer should have been made of metal, but that is another story. After 19 years of use we thought that maybe it would be wise to just replace the machine. After all, 19 years without troubles is pretty good. Based on our good experience with the old machine, we purchased a new Maytag (model MDB4949SDH, serial no. F53506533) that appeared to be similar to, or slightly better than, the old one. That was a gross mistake which I regret bitterly. We should have just repaired the old machine. However, the Maytag dealer did not allow returns. Small wonder.

When we use a dishwasher, any dishwasher, we remove virtually all foods and hardened materials from dishes before placing them in the machine. We use the machine for final cleaning and sanitizing. We have never, ever used a rinse aid, because the local city water is not hard and it leaves almost no residue. A rinse aid is never needed. During the drying cycle of the old machine a fan turned on to discharge the internal steam out of the machine through a vent in the door. It worked well. We could see the steam come out.

One would think that an engineer, supposedly educated in multiple areas of physical science, would understand that at a given pressure and temperature there is an equilibrium between liquid water and vaporized water, and that only so much liquid water can evaporate into the provided volume of air space. To put that more plainly, not all of the water on the wet contents of the dishwasher can evaporate into the limited interior of the dishwasher, so the contents remain wet.

The only solution is to provide for a removal of the steam by way of a fan and a vent, which the old dishwasher did have. Evidently the new machine does not have such a provision. No fan can be heard, and no steam can be seen escaping. However, when we open the door, steam comes billowing out. The water vapor condenses on any surface available, both on the tub and the dishes. Thus, you get wet dishes. The only solution is to open the door, let the steam come gushing out, and then leave the door open for a considerable time so that the hot, wet dishes can dry without being surrounded by the steam that would prevent drying.

The holes in the bottom of the tableware baskets are large enough to allow the handles of the utensils to fall through. We can't use the new baskets. We did not have that problem with the basket in the old machine. We have had to salvage the tableware basket from the old dishwasher to use in the new machine. Trying to use the basket covers on the new baskets to hold the utensils is an aggravation and limits the capacity of the basket, and placing the utensils in the baskets with the handle up would hinder free flow of the detergent solution and decrease the effectiveness of the washing process. I think that is a poor option. Even Maytag recommends placing the handles down if possible.

One might also point out the profound inaccuracy of the digital clock on the dishwasher. For example, if you select normal wash and heated dry, the clock will say that 2 hrs 37 min are required. A reliable kitchen timer measures it at around 2 hours, an error of approximately 23 percent. That does not affect the performance of the washer but for a $600 machine I expect better. Added note: When releasing the steam to then continue the "drying process" the steam nearly burns the user each time. Maytag won't replace it or refund money. They did not respond to the complaint outside of a "we like our design, live with it" attitude when we contacted them on social media.

We purchased a high end Maytag Dishwasher from Lowe's just 2 years ago. Within a year the machine was turning itself on, beeping for no reason, and eventually the functions on the control panel stopped working. When I called Lowe's they gave me a number for a repairman who informed me that the cost of a new control panel would be $514 and it's a known issue with moisture getting into the control panel. This is unacceptable. There are hundreds of complaints and a class action lawsuit regarding this issue and yet Maytag has done nothing to remedy this situation. I am forced to purchase a new dishwasher and I will never purchase another Maytag product.

We purchased all new appliances 3 years ago including a Maytag dishwasher. Same problem as a lot of others. We had the control board fail three times in just four months. Now today the repairman came and while he was here contacted other Sears technicians and Whirlpool technicians. They came up with the idea to replace the detergent dispenser which they said is causing the main control board to fail. However, while the tech was on the line with Sears and Whirlpool they done troubleshooting on the detergent dispenser and found that it was all within specifications. In fact, that was not a problem because it worked as it should. But in their wisdom they decided to replace the detergent dispenser.

We now have to wait another ten days for the part to arrive and reschedule another appointment to have the detergent dispenser that works replaced. The serviceman that was at our house said that they are making him replace a part that is working and that this does not need to be done but he has to take instructions from Sears technicians. Our service person said that he doesn't anticipate that replacing the detergent dispenser will make the dishwasher work but he said if it does it will only last a few weeks as before and then fail once again. We have the dishwasher on extended warranty and there are about 22 months. I suspect that this one will be going to court to get resolved. Never Maytag again or Whirlpool.

I purchased our Maytag Dishwasher in 2014 (Model # MDB77495B) and after a little over a year, of course after the warranty had expired the panel started to act up. I did get it repaired costing over $300 for parts and service thinking all is well. The repairman that came out had to come out twice once to look at and then again to fix after the part came in. We had a conversation and he said that was common with this brand, the steam sometimes affects the panel. I spoke with Maytag about getting an extended warranty but after looking at the cost passed on it. Well now the panel is acting up again. If Maytag thinks I am going to have another repairman come out well think again. I will see how much the part cost and do it myself if it cheap enough, if not I guess I'll be back to washing dishes by hand for awhile.

I bought this brand feeling that it was American made and the cost was on the expensive side that it would last. I am disappointed that this has happened again. For the money spent it should last at least 10 years. My old dishwasher that was given to me used lasted over 15 years with not one problem. It's a shame we cannot get good working appliances as we did back in the day.

We purchased a Maytag dishwasher, Model #MDB7749, in the belief that it was a quality product. Many initial reviews were positive. Unfortunately, that decision was a mistake. The washer is only three years old and the control panel has failed. We are unable to select wash cycles. It defaults to Auto Clean/Heated Dry only. The washer has been lightly used.

An online search found numerous complaints for control panel problems with this Maytag dishwasher. Please check ConsumerAffairs, Amazon, or Maytag's own Facebook (Maytag was forced to create the Facebook page in 2010 under a mandate from the Consumer Product Safety Commission after a recall of dishwashers for fire hazards) before making any decision to buy a Maytag/Whirlpool appliance. It would also be wise to purchase an extended warranty.

Our Whirlpool clothes washer failed after 5 years (bearings + controls). We can't afford to replace a major appliance every three to five years. The estimated cost to repair the dishwasher is $300 - $400. Maytag/Whirlpool customer service is indifferent to helping its customers. It's disappointing to see a "made in America" company produce such poor quality products and not support them.

I purchased this dishwasher from Sears in July of 2013. Barely 3 years ago. The last few months the controls have been acting odd. The control lock would automatically just turn on at odd times. Yesterday when I hit 'normal' cycle it went to a different cycle and had many other options lit. It would not start. Finally it went dark, no lights, no nothing. I see many people have had these types of issues with this type of Maytag dishwasher. Disappointing. A dishwasher should last longer than 3 years. Sears said they would send a repairman out but it would have been minimum $200 after it was all said and done. I'd rather own a non-Maytag dishwasher so we went and bought a different brand.

We have a Maytag Dishwasher Model MDBH949AWB. We have purchased the extended warranty. Today, after more than 100 minutes on the phone, mostly on hold, we were unable to schedule an appointment to replace the control board, or even have them verify that we have extended warranty coverage. It generally took many many minutes to get a person, only to be referred to a different person at a different number. Nobody had "access" to our extended warranty info, and to go further into getting a repair scheduled, they said they needed that info. I finally went on their website, and after keying in extensive information, I got a screen saying they were having trouble with their website, and to please try again later. So I did their "chat," and ultimately they told me to call 866-730-6094.

The earlier numbers I called, in sequence, were 866-576-1660 (53 minutes on hold); then told to call 866-265-0029, for another long hold. And then told to call 800-626-4342. Long hold, and I hung up. At one point, I think the second person I actually spoke with gave me an "incident number" of **. My "extended warranty" expires in Feb. of 2017, and they even asked me to renew early. Since the warranty seems totally worthless, why would I do that? Terrible customer service. Won't do business with Maytag ever again, and am warning others not do so either.
