My wife and I bought a new Maytag washer on 9/21/2008. Since the time we bought it, it has gone through 2 controllers; and just yesterday, 7/17/2009, it went out once more. Is there no end to this? What happens when the warranty is done? We paid around $600.00 for this washer, thinking we were buying the top brand to ensure no problems. But man, were we wrong! I cannot believe the number of problems Maytag is having. One thing is for sure, if I have to eat this and buy another washer, it sure won't be a Maytag. And I also will do all I can to spread the word - Maytag is crap!

I purchased a Maytag Top Load Washer in 2007 from PC Richards. It is now June 2009 and I was told by a PSEG technician that the problem was the transmission. I called Maytag and was told by them the warranty was only for 1 year for my model, MAV2755AW. Oh well, I guess this is how Maytag stands behind its products, 2 years and the transmission blows. How can a company do this to consumers who trust in their brand! Disgusted w/ Maytag.

After having my new Maytag washer delivered and trying out one small load, I found that the instruction book failed to list the problems associated with an auto-water level sensing feature. The machine will not fill with water or operate if the lid is opened. Therefore, if you want to add one more item to the existing load during the initial fill, the water level automatically fills to the maximum, even if only two small items are in the load. How can this be considered and energy star appliance when the automatic water conservation feature is inadequate?

Once the washer is delivered into your home and hooked up to the faucets, it becomes a used appliance, even though it has never been used. It can then not be returned or exchanged, even though at the time of purchase, the feature's flaws were not explained or even mentioned to me. I now have a brand new "used" washer that uses twice as much water as a non-energy efficient model.

My husband and I purchased a Maytag Neptune front loading washing machine (model #MAH5500BWQ) and a dryer through Sears on 9/13/06 to put in our new house. The washer has developed a very loud noise when it spins. I asked the Sears technician, who was here servicing another Sears appliance, to listen to the noise and tell me what could be wrong. He said the bearing was gone. I told him we had only had the machine for less than three years. He said he has seen the bearing go as early as eight months after purchase. He said the casing around the bearing is plastic and doesn't hold up. I asked what it would cost to repair and he said about $500.00 for the part and another $200-plus for the labor because it takes two men to take it apart and fix it. I told him that was as much as I paid for the washer. He said he knows, but that's the way it is. He said there have been many complaints about this issue. He said Maytag is now owned by Whirlpool.

Is there anything we can do to remedy this situation? It seems unfair to buy a product of that cost that was explained as a great machine and have something this expensive go this quickly. It has been making noise for several months now. Thank you for any advice or help you can give me. He says if the bearing breaks, water will keep leaking and could do great damage. He says to never leave it unattended. It is only my husband and I. And I do 2-3 loads a week. I'm so disappointed.

On July 2, 2009, I hired Jose to fix my Maytag stackable washer in my home. Jose came along with another person named Chuy. I explained to Jose that the washer would wash clothes but that it seemed to not be spinning because there would still be a lot of water in the clothes as well as in the water after it stopped. Jose stated that the washer needed a water pump. When I asked for the cost, Jose stated the cost with parts and labor would be $200 and I would need to give him a $110 deposit in order to fix it.

I gave him the deposit, and on July 3, Jose, along with Chuy, returned to repair the washer. Jose came to me when he had finished the work and told me that the washer was completing the washing cycle but it was indeed fixed, and he collected the remaining $90 for the work. After the washer stopped, I put a load of clothes in. But when it stopped, I still had the same problem as before. I immediately called Jose and informed him of the problem. He told me that he would return the next morning, July 4, to repair it.

I called Jose the next morning to confirm the appointment, but I was told by Jose that he would not be coming because it was a holiday but that I would see him on Monday morning at 9:00 am. At 10:30 am, I called Jose, because I had not heard from him. He told me that he forgot that he had a doctor's appointment and that he would be at my home after 11:00am. At 3:00pm, I contacted Jose, and he informed me that he had needed to go to the hospital to have test done on his liver. Jose told me that he would be at my home on Tuesday.

Then on Tuesday morning, I did not hear from Jose; but by Tuesday afternoon, a person by the name of Edgar showed up at my home, saying he was there to fix my washer. When I asked where Jose was, he told me he didn't know he had other clients but that Jose had hired him to fix my washer. I asked him his name, and he told me his name was Edgar. I asked what company he was from, and he said Garcia Appliances (562-423-8199) in Long Beach, 741 East Artesia Blvd. He worked on my washer on Tuesday. When he was finished, he left the washer running and he instructed me to call him after it completed the cycle to give him the results.

When it finished, I called to inform him that it was not fixed. I called Jose on Wednesday morning to let him know that my washer was not fixed. Jose never returned himself to fix my washer. Edgar returned again on Wednesday, but at the end of the day, I still had the same problem. I contacted Edgar again as he instructed me to, only to be able to leave a message letting him know that not only was my washer not fixed but that now, the washer is cutting off at the wash cycle and not starting. I had not had that problem before. Edgar never returned my call.

I contacted Jose this Thursday morning, July 9; and Jose was very rude and belligerent. He stated Edgar would not be coming back. I asked him why would he not fix my washer since I did hire him; I paid him $200 to fix my washer, and I have a 6-month warranty that is stated on the receipt. He told he that he would only give me back $100, because he claimed Edgar's service was over $350. But he would not give me the $100 until Saturday after 1:00pm. I had requested an invoice for the water pump, which I never received or an itemized list of the work from Edgar.

I contacted Garcia Appliances in Long Beach, and I was told that Edgar was not an employee but that he did work for them from time to time. I was told that they would contact Edgar on my behalf, but I have not heard from anyone. When asked, Jose would not provide a business address or a business license number. I did a telephone search, and the telephone number is not under Jose Gonzalez or Gonzalez Appliance, but it is under Mario ** at Los Angeles, CA 90059. I asked Jose why won't he fix the washer since it is his business, and there was no legitimate response. I never asked for my money back. I would like for my washer to be repaired, and I think I have been fair and have given him an ample amount of time, even though I am frustrated. The reimbursement was Jose's solution, but only for $100 and at his discretion.

I am on a fixed income, and I don't have the money to hire someone else at this time. I feel it is only fair that I be reimbursed the total amount of $200.00, if anything. My daughter Mina also contacted Jose regarding his business ethics as well. You may contact Mina and my daughter LaRhonda, who can vouch for everything that I have told you.

I have a Maytag Neptune that has finally quit working. It never did really work well. It made a horrible noise while washing last week. It usually sounds like a jet taking off, but this was different. The repairman told me it is unfixable. One of the springs broke (probably from the violent spin cycles) dropped onto the motor/wiring then shorted out the circuit board. Good riddance! We spent a lot of money for this appliance and have been unhappy ever since. The washer we had before that cost 1/2 as much was so much better and lasted 20 plus years. The Maytag Neptune lasted 2 years?!

We purchased a Maytag steam washer, supposedly top of the line. Within one month, the machine would not work. It was obviously defective, but we were told it could not be replaced. We waited for a week before anyone would come to look at the machine. We waited another two weeks before anyone would come back with the part. During that two weeks, we attempted to contact the service providers, but they would not return our messages, would not answer their phones and even turned them off after we attempted to call.

Of course, they finally come, but Maytag had told the repair man to order the wrong part. I called myself to order the part that they now say they need and was assured that it would arrive the next day by 4:00 p.m. Of course, it did not arrive. When I called to check on my part, all I am told is that my order did not go through but that they would send it again.

So now, I am waiting two to three more days. I asked to speak to management and was treated horribly. He told me that they would no longer speak to me about my past inconveniences and that he would only talk to me about the part not arriving and that he would not compensate me in any way. He told me that I should not have scheduled service so late in the day, even though I was assured by his service department that the part would arrive. I have already waited nearly a month, of course, I wanted the machine fixed as soon as possible. I am now out 4 days of work. I have no clean clothes to wear and the machine is still not fixed. I have never been treated so rudely in my entire life. I will never purchase another Maytag or Whirlpool appliance.

Maytag prides itself for product durability and integrity. The metal of the dryer drum cracked. It is caused by one of the following reasons; design flaw by using lighter weigh metal or improper metal joint or improper manufacturing process that caused metal fatigue. I purchased this product in 2005, dryer model # MDE9700AYW for $799.95. The metal drum cracked in the 4th year of its normal use. When I called Maytag about the product warranty, they informed me it has expired. No one ever heard of a dryer drum crack within 4 years of its life. Dryers used to run forever. This cost me $360 to repair the product of which I could have replaced it with any brand dryer that will last me for 30 years.

Brown specks occur in my washer and get all over my clothes that are being washed. This occurs even after I use Afresh in it to clean it. I leave the door open so that all the water will dry. Today there were hundreds of little brown specks around the tub and on my clothes when I opened the door after washing a load. I have ruined several white blouses and shirts with the brown specks that get on them and create a brown spot when touched.

We purchased a washer and dryer set on 03/17/2006. Since 2006, we have had multiple problems with the washing machine. Maytag has replaced the circuit board twice and the console once. On June the 7th, a repairman came to fix our washing machine again. He called another repairman on June 15th, at which time he let me know that the circuit board needed to be replace again and some valves on the unit was not properly working. The Maytag repairman was to order the parts and install them within 7 to 10 business days.

Two days later, I received a call from the Maytag repairs office informing me that my washing machine was no longer covered under the warranty. I was told that a person from logistics would be calling me. Andrea from Maytag Dependability called me on June 24th to explain that the repairs to the machine had exceeded the purchase price and there was nothing they would do for me. I asked her where we could find this information as in the clause of the warranty. The section she told me to look in is as follows:

    3. Claim Limitation

The total claims limitation under this contract is the original purchase price of the covered product less sales tax, delivery and installation. During the term of the contract, we may elect, at our option, to buyout the contract for the original purchase price of the covered product less claims paid, less sales tax, delivery and installation, or replace the product with a comparable product. In the event we reimburse you or replace the product, we shall have satisfied all obligations owed under the contract.

Andrea informed me that due to the fact that the other claims have almost exceeded my purchase price, no repairs will be made to the washing machine. She needed me to fax her my original invoice for proof of purchase and sales amount. I request that the machine be replace with a comparable product and was informed that option was no longer available. I would only be refunded what was left from the claims per the purchase price.

We purchased a five-year warranty that was to end on 03/26/2012, and we purchased an additional warranty on the motor of the washing machine for another six years. Both warranties totaled $199.00 for the full price of $399.98. The purchase price of the washing machine was $899.00, plus taxes. We still, to this day, do not have a washing machine that works. To me, when you pay $1,298.98 and only have an appliance for three years and three months, the company that manufactured the appliance should stand behind that appliance.

We have not received a refund check to date. I am unaware of how much they will refund back, due to the fact that they can set their own price for repairs.

My Maytag washing machine has been serviced three times because during the spin cycle, I think the drum becomes unbalanced (or perhaps it is warped). The grey rubber scrapes against the door of the washing machine and made a hole in the door. The door has already been replaced twice. Now, the same problem is occurring even though we are putting less clothes in the washer (half full). As a result, I am washing more times, using more electricity, more water, more soap and wasting more time!

The last time, the repair service also replaced a computer board. They said that it would adjust the spin cycle speed but the same problem is happening. GE keeps telling me the door is not covered under the service contract. The company that was initially supposed to come for this third service call does not have an opening for nine more days (I have not washed clothes for five days since I called for this service).

GE called another repair service company to come tomorrow. This company called and when we said it was a Maytag Neptune Washer, they said they do not service this washer--too many problems, too many headaches with them. Now I had to call GE back again and the woman told me the door was not covered and I told her the drum is spinning up against the door and scratching it--so she has called another company and I am waiting for them to fix my washer. GE is sending me a check to wash my clothes in a Laundromat. This is ridiculous.

In addition, my washing machine smells really bad all the time. We have complained about this on our first service call because we can hear water inside the washer when the drum moves when loading and unloading the machine. Is this normal? The smell is really bad. It smells like mildew or something, not like fresh soapy water!

I bought a Maytag washer in October of 2006. As you can see, it isn't 3 years old yet. It started making a terrible noise probably 6-12 months ago. Finally, I called a repairman and all he could do was spray some kind of silicone to make it better. I am very disappointed in Maytag. I always heard you never had to call a repairman. I will never buy a Maytag and I will tell others not to buy one. Any chance I get, I'll let people know about how I feel about the Maytag product. The noise is so bad you can not be close to the room where the washer is. You can hear it all the way into the back of the house. I have no choice but to keep it and listen to the sound. I had to pay close to $60 just for the repairman to come and spray something that did not work. I ask the one at the store where I bought it and he said his makes the same noise.

I have a Maytag washer and dryer. Both are in need of servicing. I have not had the Maytag washer for even a year (August 2008 purchase) and the dryer for three years (August 2006 purchase). The dryer has been worked on in the past year, because the drying element went out and now the pulley is gone and so is the drive belt. The washer does not wash a full load with me restarting it by pushing on the sensor to turn it back on.

I spoke to Maytag, and the young lady was rude. She was defensive, and I don't understand why. I told her someone needs to say something to corporate office about these products and the engineers who designed the products. They are not reliable and non-functional.

Her attitude was so bad, and so, I decided to call the customer service line and got Howard. Howard offered to give me $50. That does not solve my problem. It will not repair my washer and dryer. It will not give me the money I have spent at the laundromat and time I have spent going. They really need to do something about their products. But in the meantime, consumers need to be made aware of their products and customer service.

Thus far, I have spent $21 drying clothes for my family. I tell the kids to use the same towel again, to keep from going to the laundromat more. The dryer has been down for 10 days and have 4 more days before someone will be out to do anything.

We just learned about the class action lawsuit a few years back regarding the Maytag Neptune Washers. We have had both the washer and dryer repaired over the years and although both were registered from the date of purchase (2001) for their warranty, we were never notified of the lawsuit. Why weren't we ever notified? We know for a fact that Maytag has all our info because we called them yesterday regarding our most recent problem and they had all our info- names, date of purchase, model #s, etc., right in front of them on the computer.

We have now had the dryer repaired three times since purchase and the washer at least once and are out several hundred dollars, and we deal with a constant odor in the washer from the horrible mold and mildew build-up. We have purchased tablets that were supposed to clean the mold, but they don't. We try to leave the washer door open when not in use, but wonder if we are being exposed to toxic mold?

I purchased the Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer in Arizona in 2005 with no problem due to the dry climate, I am assuming. I moved to North Carolina in 2008 and have noticed a major mold build up and odor coming from the machine ever since. I have an extended warranty that covers me through 2010. However, they don't cover the mold problem. I was transferred to Maytag after being told that they would for sure cover the problem, only to find out that they do not.

The solution they gave me was to run a clean cycle with bleach and hot water. I have done that, and it does work; but it seems that I have to do it on a weekly basis to even begin to control the problem. I currently have a septic system, and the thought of bleach pouring into it every week is appalling just to ensure that my washing machine won't make my self and family ill.

Maytag should be ashamed of themselves. I bought this machine in 2005, which is the same year the class action lawsuit claim expired for these exact issues on these machines. I have recently sent off a complaint letter to Maytag. I have not had a response and doubt that I will.

I bought it in April 2004 and after doing research, I discovered there was a law suit about this problem but you had to file a claim by some time in 2005 to get them to fix it. Now to get it fixed, we have to pay for this even though they admitted it was a manufacturing problem! I think this is wrong and they should fix their own problems.

My husband and I purchased a new Maytag washer and dryer from Queen City Appliance in Concord, NC. The washer has problems. It does not go thru the cycles as it should. We reported this to Queen City. Nothing was done to correct the problem. We reported it again. We were told that they did not receive a complaint from us. Fact was the person who took the complaint never registered the complaint with the managers as we found out 2 months later. I wanted the washer replaced since I purchased new. I expected it to work like new. Queen City said we had to let them send out a repair tech first.

The repair person did come to my house but said he did not have time to hang around to put the washer thru a cycle to find the problem as the company gives him a tight schedule and he had to do so many appointments in an allotted time period and left without determining the problem. We called back to Queen City Appliance to complain about this behavior. At first the female employee was upset with the repair company as they pay them by contract to do repairs. This repairman went back and lied to the company saying that the washer was ok and that the problem was my plumbing, which was totally not true.

So then Queen City sent out a private repair man from another company they do business with. He figured it was the timer that was defective and replaced it but that did not fix the problem. We called back Queen City and wanted the lemon washer replaced. But they refused flatly, claiming that they would not stand behind the appliances that they sell. They told us if we had a problem, call Maytag ourselves. We called Maytag 2 times with no results. It has been 2 and a half months ago and we still have not been able to get the lemon washer replaced. We purchased a new washer and dryer for over $1000, not damaged or second hand appliances. Also, the dryer was dented which we were willing to over look. But the washer has not worked correctly since day one. We believe we have the right to receive a working new replacement. We purchased a new washer and dryer but that’s not what we got.

I am calling Goodwill to come and get both of them and I will never buy another Maytag again. Whatever happen to the lonely old Maytag repairman with nothing to do? The washer model is SAV2655AWW. I did contact Maytag who at the time said, "I'm sorry but we won't help you since it didn't show the problem within the 1st year." Then I filed a complaint on the internet complaints board and someone from Maytag did contact me to try and help. They said they would pay to have one of their authorized repair services come out and gave the list of authorized companies.

I made an appointment with one of them, Koczaweiz, who did not show up on the scheduled day on which I had off from work. Maytag claimed they couldn't do anything. I cannot take another day off from work in the hopes that another repair company will show up. Maytag said they couldn't ask their authorized repair companies to reschedule around my schedule so that I didn't have to take off again. I would never spend another penny on Maytag and I feel it's my duty to let as many people as possible know that buying a Maytag product is nothing but a headache and has tripled my water bill every month.

I didn't really think anything of it at first. Then I noticed that it would totally skip the spin cycle and when I opened up the lid, there my clothes would be-sitting there in soapy water (in retrospect now, I realize that it was/is probably skipping the rinse cycle also). When I put a load of laundry in, I have to time the washer for exactly 30 minutes and then manually stop it, put the knob in the middle of the spin cycle and let it do its thing. I shouldn't have to do this! It's been doing this from early 2003 on. And I have noticed the bad odor coming from the bin for a while now. I have never really felt that my clothes have cleaned to the extent they could be cleaned. I don't notice a smell to the clothes-I just don't believe that they are getting rinsed properly because of the fact that I have to manually run the spin cycle every time. I don't really know how I came up with running the spin cyle again, it was just the thing that I did to get the water to empty out of the washer at the time! I can't believe, from all of the complaints I've been reading on here, that some recall hasn't happened for this model/brand. I purchased a Neptune front load washer in December 2005. It worked well for about a year. Then the mildew odor started developing and it started dancing around the laundry room during the spin cycle. The only thing that keeps it in place is either the wall or the hoses. I'm expecting it to rip the pipes out of the wall one of these days. I've put rubber anti-vibration pads under the feet and this helps a little but on most loads, the machine simply vibrates off one of the pads and then it really starts rocking.

I've had the Maytag repair guy out as well as the repair guy from GE (GE has the extended service contract). Neither could stop the vibration. They suggested that I load the machine up with towels whenever I do a partial load. That makes a lot of sense. I will use it for a while longer, since it cost about $1K and when I get annoyed enough I'll put it out on the curb with a sign - DO NOT BUY MAYTAG APPLIANCES!!!

The salesman at the local Lowe's said that these machines are known to be problems and were intended to be used in the basement on a concrete pad. The store I bought it from naturally said nothing about these problems. I suppose that they just wanted to get it out of their store. I also own a Maytag gas range. The oven doesn't work. Bottom line - I will never buy another Maytag appliance and will advise my kids, sisters, brother, cousins, neighbors, work colleagues, and anyone else who asks not to buy Maytag either.

I told him that my previous washer had no problems and it was used, so we wanted something new and nice looking since our hook ups are in the kitchen. He still insisted it was the floors, so I sucked up the often walking of my washer and only did laundry if someone was able to sit on the washer during the spin cycle.

In February 2009, my washer shuts off after a few seconds of running. Then it would kick back on after about 10-15 minutes, and a few seconds later, kick off again. It took over a full day to get a load of laundry done. Now in March, it began washing right again. In April, it began not spinning out the load, like the timing was off. However, if I turned it back to spin cycle, it would spin out the clothes. It still wasn't rinsing the clothes out properly.

I called Maytag and they sent someone out; that cost me $65. He informed me that my timer needed to be replaced, which I told the lady on the phone. We purchased a Maytag Neptune washer and dryer about a year ago and have had nothing but problems with them. I had an appliance repairman come out to look at them, and he said that he has had many calls on this model. The washing machine reader board malfunctions constantly and stops the machine on the spin cycle. I have had to restart the machine sometimes 6 to 10 times to get it to complete the load of wash. The repairman said to replace the board is over $400 and there is no guarantee that the new one would work either because there is a defect. These were very costly machines, and if they have a defect, they should be taken off the market. We do not feel we should buy a new board when we could encounter the same problems so we have to buy a new washer. It will not be a Maytag!

I have had multiple problems with Neptune washing machine. It had problems recently, last spring, in Dec. and this March. I have not been able to use it since March 10. It has been serviced multiple times since. They can't get the specific part for it. It's on back order until April. I spoke with manager at Maytag Dependability Plus. I asked them for a renter machine until my machine is fixed. They said they do not do this. I explained to them that I can't go without a washing machine for two months! They said that I have to wait for the part. By the time I go to the laundromat, I could have bought a new washer. Please, please help!

I have a Maytag Neptune model # mah5500bww. I am going crazy! Last month, the door burst opened and dumped about 50 gallons of water all over my kitchen! I am not kidding! It took me over an hour to clean it up. The door registered locked but did not. I fiddled with it, did another load and watched it. Then it dripped a bit. I changed the door around, and it worked for about two weeks with no problems. And then last night, bam, the door leaked. This time I caught it and only about 10 gallons of water came flying out! Now, when I unplug it and have everything off, the water continuously runs in to. The washer stinks and it has collected tons of water inside. When I manually spin it, I can hear a lot in there. I have no idea what to do. This has been a pretty good washer until now, and I am really getting hit hard now! I have no idea how I am going to purchase a new unit in this lousy economy. I called a repairman to come out tomorrow but something tells me that I am screwed. My stomach just hurts, not to mention my neighbor is already tired of washing my clothes. Three boys and a husband tend to make a lot of dirty laundry.

Like everyone else, I've had problems with our washer (neptune front loader). The washer has 9 months of extended warranty left (three years), but of course coins stuck in the filter entrance aren't covered by the extended warranty. I convinced one of the repair men to show me how to fix this myself. So right now there are no coins stuck. However, the last time I called them out, they said there was nothing else wrong with it. It doesn't drain or complete the spin cycle. It stinks and we've resorted to going to a laundramat again. We paid almost 1000 dollars for this stupid machine and We're going to just have to eat it. Maytag should be sued again for continuing to have machines with such poor design out on the market. I would like to know why this product was still allowed on the market after the first class action lawsuit. This is foul smelling!

During the time we have owned the Neptune washing machine which was purchased in 2001, we have had the lid lock switch, circuit board, and motor control board replaced. Now the front door boot seal needs to be replaced. At the time the service tech was out looking at the front seal, he mentioned the pump is on its last leg and will need to be replaced. One of the main problems we have encountered with the machine started when it was approximately one year old, is it releases water from the machine onto the floor, which has created several problems. The first is the carpet that surrounds the outside of the room has gotten wet.

The other is the wood door jamb leading into the laundry room has been damaged from the water that the washer has released. We have had the washer checked out several times by a service tech. The service tech was unable to find any reason for this action. The service tech recommendation was to install a metal catch pan under the washer to catch the excess water the machine discharges on to the floor. The metal pans have water residue contained in the pan approximately once a month depending on the usage of the machine.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washing machine in Sept. 2003 because my mother previously had a Maytag that was very reliable and I thought the company would stand behind their product. The washer was not used that often the first two years with only 2 people in the house, then only slightly more with the addition of an infant. Well, after owning the machine for 26 months, I did a load of laundry and heard a gushing sound after the spin cycle--all the water came pouring back in the washing machine instead of being extracted! Maytag was very rude and matter-of-fact when telling me a service call from a repair man would cost $158 just to look at it. When I found out it would be less money for a local repairman I refused to be ripped off by Maytag. Local repair shop replaced the pump for slightly less than Maytag wanted just to show up at my door. Washer seemed to work okay for about another year. Then it started getting extremely loud when going into the spin cycle (so loud you can hear it outside with the doors closed). Also noticed it wasn't spinning the clothes completely dry. Add this to the fact that, throughout my ownership of this wonderful machine, I have had to keep an eye on the filling cycle because the water will continue to run into the machine without filling it up (only remedied by switching to a smaller load size--where's the water going?) and the timer will often get stuck so the cycle will not progress without being physically reset. I recently noticed water damage to my baseboards in my living room (directly behind my wall where the washer is located). My suspicion that the washer was the culprit was finally confirmed when the floor underneath and around the machine became flooded with water while doing a load of laundry. After this experience (and learning of others' problems with the same model) it doesn't seem worth it to repair the machine. I will NOT be purchasing any more Maytag appliances for my home.

However, it only took a few loads to determine that the clothes coming out of the machine looked dirtier than when they went in. They have lint all over them, especially black slacks. My husband and I looked for a lint trap to empty, called the service number, and they informed us that the Bravos machine does not have a lint filter. Their explanation was that's what you have a drier for. Needless to say, things that qualify for hand wash do not go in the drier. Further calls to the service number proved equally unsatisfactory. A service tech was sent out, who billed us $80 to tell us there was nothing wrong with the machine. Follow up calls to the service number could provide no additional assistance, although this service rep did try her best to help. Meanwhile, I've got a $1000 washer that makes clothes appear dirtier, and there's no energy efficiency, because I have to run an hour-long cycle every week to wash the washer before I can wash clothes.

Other than the control buttons wearing out and having to push them ten times to get them to work, there have been no major issues with the dryer. The washer is a different story. The washer tied clothes in knots that you could hardly get out. The dryer could not even get the wrinkles out, needles to say the washer tied the clothes in it together in knots making it almost impossible to get the clothes separated. We have had nothing but problems with it. Having to have a repairmen out 2 times for the LC button not being able to clear from the screen and being able to reset the washer. We were only one step away from the lemon law that could have worked in to place if we had had to call service repairman out just one more time for that repair. How ironic, it worked. Then the washer started making a horrific noise sounding like a jet engine was landing in my home. We had repairman out and the repair cost was $1200. Heck we refused that and used it til the end. TWo days ago it stopped draining the water from the tub, the lid was locked, we had to force the lock open to get our clothes out of the machine. Now tonight we had to go out and spend money that we did not have at present time on a new washer when ours was only purchased not even 5 years ago. The way I found out about the GFCI recall was by a service man who recently came to my house to service another recall issue on my Maytag refrigerator. I was SHOCKED to see so many people out there with (My Problem) and very disappointed to read about the results that every one is getting from Maytag. Somethng needs to be done by Maytag in the result to this mildew issue resulting within their machines. It is not very sanitary to be washing our clothes in such unclean bacteria filled machine. I'm afraid to turn it on this crack is going to eat something i just know it. The repair guy assures me it wont he placed some kind of tape or something over it so it won't eat my clothes. After loving my Maytag Washer and dryer and using the set got 22 years,in Dec 2003 I purchased a new set of Maytag Washer & Dryer, washer model LAT3600AAE as the bearings on my old washer were gone.
In Jan 2004, my new washer tore a hole out of a new shirt; the agitator was replaced on warranty service. In July 2006, my 2 1/2 yr old washer tore some sheets and clothing; the agitator was again replaced at a cost of $200; Maytag agreed to and did reimburse me the cost of the part, about $56. Earlier this month, Feb 2009, my washer AGAIn tore some clothing and bed linens. I called Whirlpool Executive Offices to complain about this defectively designed or defectively produced product and to request a new washer at Whirlpool's expense. Maytag investigated my complaint and the Monday after my Friday phone call advised that they had never heard of this problem before. (However, the website, appliancejunk.comreports on Maytag washer damage from the agitator fins getting older and cracking and eventually breaking. I kept the 2d agitator which damaged my items in July 2006 when it was replaced.) Maytag offered once again to pay for the agitator part, but I refused to subject my clothing and bed, bath, and table linens to the vagaries of this product. At long last Maytag agreed to reimburse me 20% of the cost of a new machine. I purchased a new machine and had so much trouble with the Sears installers that I called Sears headquarters to get that issue resolved.

I bought a maytag, bravos, washer and dryer on 9/15/07. I read the instruction manuals on both. I use the recommended detergent and fabric softener, plus an odor killing additive. The washer tangles the legs of jeans and sleeves of shirts into knots. When I finally get them untied, shook out and into the dryer, they are still wrinkled when they come out. My laundry no longer smells clean. Two of my daughters, individually, noticed this, also. My husband made comments on the smell. He and I work out in the yard a lot. The stains and dirt do not wash out, as they used to, before I bought this washer. Even when pretreated and soak and stain cycle are used, the clothes do not come clean and odor free. Towels have to be rinsed 4 times. In January of 2009 the washer started to sound like a jet plane, while in use. The catch on the dryer door jams and will not close, unless I place it in a certain position. The clothes are not dry when the cycles are complete. I have to put it on a timed dry instead of the auto cycles to get them dry. Enough is enough! I called where I bought them. Out of thier control. I called the company. I was told I should have bought the extended warranty. Why would I pay $2000.00 for them, if they were not going to last over a year and not work right? The rep did not answer. She basically told me, sorry about you luck. She said I could pay for all labor and service call. When I threatened to run a full page ad in the local newspaper about these defective machines, she said this one time only, they would send someone out to repair them. I have to get my 16 mo.old, top of the line washer and dryer repaired? Amazing!!!!! The bearings are going out on the washer. In order to repair it, they had to replace the entire tub. It was sent out broken, by maytag manufacturers. The repair service had to order another. A new part for the dryer door was sent too. I am waiting for the new tub to get here, so they can finish the repairs. First one took a week. The laundry is piling up. I am stuck with these lemons. The maytag rep said they would only repair them once. I am very dissatisfied with performance, dependability, and quality of the set. The maytag repair man would not be bored with this set, as it has shown him to be, on thier t.v. ads.

There is very little water added to the washer for each load and the clothes don't ever get submerged in water. How can you possibly wash clothes without getting them wet. This is the craziest piece of junk that has ever been invented. You can't select your wash load size, because the machine will not let you ... it decides what size load you have and it then is supposed to add the amount of water needed to wash the clothes ... it then adds about a cup full of water and proceeds to twist your clothes in knots and tears up your delicate items. Once again ... this is the craziest piece of Junk ever invented. Maytag should be ashamed to put there name on this junk ... It should be removed from the stores. Naturally I declined. The unit was purchased at Home Depot in May of 2007. We chose Maytag because of it's reputation and spent over $1000.00 expecting years of dependable service. Boy did I make a mistake. The serviceman could not assure us the new bearing would last any longer than this one. I thought most reputable manufacturers of washers would warranty the bearing for more than a year, most do...This unit does not. This will be my last Maytag product. Thinking a lot more initial cost would pay for itself ended up with a scrap washing machine that is just over 1 1/2 years old. I should have researched the warranty more, but again I made the purchase of the brand I believed to be superior.

Our whole family is allergic to mold and now our clothes (especially the towels) have the smell even if I am standing right there to change over the laundry to the dryer. This is something I never had to do with our 12 year old washer in our previous home which was NOT a Maytage and was a top loader. Our builder picked out these models and we never heard about the class action lawsuit. I can not believe the amount of money spent and now they are a health hazard. With this economy it is difficult to replace which is the only option since the other option would be to pay for a repair man to replace the gasket only to have the mold occur again. Maytag has ruined their reputation and needs to take responsibility. They need to offer all with this defect their top loader model with installation.

About 2 months ago I started noticing black mold on the door gasket and a moldy type smell when I would open the door. There was a class action lawsuit that ended in 2004 or 2005. I was not part of that class action as my machine was in storage and did not even know about the suit. My model number was included in the lawsuit. I contacted Maytag several days ago regarding my machine and they gave me instructions for cleaning the mold and removing the musty smell from the machine. They also informed me that I must use HE laundry detergent only in the machine and to leave the door open when not in use. I only use HE laundry detergent in the machine anyway and leaving the door on leaves the machine on thus using more electricity. They also said I could have the door gasket replaced at my own expense since it was an old machine. Replacing the door gasket makes no sense as the mold will appear on that gasket in a matter of months as well.

This was a problem that generated a Class Action lawsuit in 2005. Of course, this dishwasher was installed just about a year ago to replace the previous one that leaked horribly but I don't recall why. We purchased the Maytag Neptune TL Washer the year that it came out. We paid over $1,000.00 and were told that it was a top of the line washer. It has been nothing but a nightmare. It has taken me up to 4 hours to try and complete one load of laundry. After getting up at 4:30 AM every day for work these 4 hours at night to do one load is an extreme hardship. If the load is not absolutely perfectly weighted for this machine it will stop, especially at the spin cycle. I can rearrange the clothing in the machine up to 20-30 times and it will continually stop. We did call a repair man after the 1st year of our purchase and we were told that Maytag discontinued this model because of all the problems. $1000.00 is alot of money to purchase such an imperfect machine. Physically and emotionally I am not able to keep this machine and am asking for some monetary reimbursement from Maytag for a faulty model which had to be immediately discontinued. Please advise. I was looking online for information on the Maytag Neptune Washer. And came across your website that mentioned a lawsuit against Maytag of said product. We have had the same problems with our washer but did not have any knowledge that this was a big problem which created a lawsuit. At the time it was settled April 19, we had been in the process of completing our newly built house and closing on it. Packing and moving in April 2005. Then of course after moving, it takes time to settle in and complete the finishing of the new home. So we were not aware of the August 9, 2005 deadline. My question is are we still able to be compensated in some way for above said lawsuit.? Would we contact Maytag? Thank you, Linnae Anderson

My Maytag Neptune front load washer is only 4 years old. We noticed it leaking about 4 months ago. When we began researching the source of the leak we were surprised to find that the bottom of the inside of the door had a wear hole completely through to the inside of the door. It leaks water down the inside of the door and down the front of the washer spreading water over the floor. It has had only a few moments of jumping across the floor when faced with an uneven load. Sometimes the washer doesn't spin completely leaving absolutely soaked clothes. The door however, is my main concern. I cannot seem to find a replacement door online. "While my less than four yearold Neptune washer Model No. MAH5500BWW Serial No. B2802810ER does a very good job of washing my clothes, the water that accumulates inside the rubber seal is a breeding ground for slimy mold. No matter how many times I have attempted to clean it out every load that I remove from the washer has bits of slimy mold on it. In addition, the mold smell in the washer is quite strong inspite of my using Affresh and leaving the washer door open as often as possible. I now find that the only way to assure there is no mold in the washer is to replace the otherwise undamaged seal at a cost of $150$175. Had I known this was a chronic issue with front loaders I would have purchased a top loader model instead. It is remiss of Maytag not to design a drain or pump system so that the consumer does not have to be responsible for sponging up puddles, scraping mold and replacing parts because of manufacturing defects on a costly appliance. Since it appears I have no recourse but to replace this expensive rubber seal, I would ask Maytag to please consider reimbusing me for this expense." Maytag's 5/22/08 response is, in part, as follows: "We do understand and appreciate your feelings concerning the problems you encountered and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Unfortunately, due to the age of the washer, we are unable to provide assistance with regards to reimbursement for replacing the part on your washer"

During the 1st year, Maytag extended the warranty to two years. Our mistake was not returning the washer immediately. The repairman has replaced the sensors, wash plate, cable harness, tub, and water pump. The service person has gone above and beyond to try and fix the problem, but there seems to be no solution. Once the extended warranty is done, it would be a waste of money to pay for repairing the same problem over and over. At over $800, this is the most expensive washer we have ever owned. At twice the price of a conventional top-loader, junking this machine after only 2 years is a serious burden to our finances.

I bought on March 9, 2004 a Maytag washer which is a Neptune TL top loader from Home Depot, also a service from Home Depot which is GE-Zurich which expires in March 2009. The model number is fav6800aww. This is a brief story hopefully. Within a year from owning the machine, it had numerous problems such as lid locks the liner, the fabric softer was shorting out, the LCD panel which they rigged, also the pump; I can't tell you how many times that was replaced and also, the clutch. I went from 3 weeks without a washer up to 7 weeks without one. The clothes were always dirty. I had water on floors when broken. This is what took place this year alone.

I'm still covered under GE-Zurich till 3/2009. In March, I had the LCD panel replaced; then in Aug. 2008, I needed a pump. I believe they said they came with a pump. It would not work so I had to wait 3 more weeks, in total 7 weeks. They fixed it with an LCD panel. Then in Oct. 2008, it went; it was the clutch or pump -I'm not sure. They came within two weeks and the part was no good. 3 weeks later, they came and fixed it. As of 1/1/2009, it went again. This is just in one year's time what I've experienced. I say at least 2 times a year or more, since 2004, I've gone without a washing machine for anywhere from 2 weeks to 7 weeks. I now decided to buy a new one on 1/2/2009. I once wrote Better Business and I was told where they're fixing the product, by law there is not much they can do and it had to have 3 failures of the same part within the year's time. So, I didn't have much of a choice.

It took almost 3 weeks for it to be repaired, waiting on parts, that problem was fixed. Now, it vibrates so bad on the spin cycle that I do small loads only. I have read this seems to be a problem common to these machines. It will not spin the water or soap out of the clothes.

I live in a mobile home. The washer shakes so bad that it has loosen all the screws on the ceiling lights. After one of the globes fell out in the middle of the night, I have check all of them at least once a week. When the washer was in the repair shop, I had to drive about 16 miles to do laundry. To get this machine out of this house is a pain. With this machine not spinning the water out, my drying time is longer, using more power. Sometimes an extra rinse is needed, too.

What I would like to know is why Maytag has no solution to this problem. I had a Whirlpool washer for over 14 years. I needed a larger machine so I bought this so-called name brand. NEVER AGAIN!!!

This is for information only regarding Maytag Neptune/ All front loading laundry. Most manufactures of High Efficiency front load laundry can have mld/mildew issues. That is because the washer does not fill with water so the seal does not get cleaned very well. Now there is a product called Affresh tablets to help clean your washer/seal. It will help prevent mold/mildew from starting. Using bleach with whites also can be a factor to prevent mold from starting. Some appliance manufactures are even injecting the seals with an anti-microbial foam to prevent mold/mildew from starting. Keep in mind that Maytag is not the only manufacture to have this issue. They did have a bad product design with their Neptune series but their products now are much better.

About a year and a half ago we purchased a Maytag Neptune front loading washer and matching dryer through Aarons (a local rent to own store). We started having problems with the machine making strange noises when it was in the spin cycle within just a few months. While we were under the rental contract we had two repair men out (at no cost to us) that said the machine was so new that they did not know for sure how to repair it. The second repair man was at least smart enough to look at the manual that came with the machine and told us that he needed to replace an interior part within the motor. We were told the machines were new, that the store just got them in. The store was new to our area and with the repair men not even being familiar with them; we believed this statement to be true. So we thought it was a bit odd that a part in the motor needed to be replaced so early. It took weeks for the part to come in and we had a loner machine for that time. They finally replaced the part in the motor but after a few loads the noise returned. We immediately called the manager at Aarons and this time because of warranty issues they needed to call a Maytag service man out. He showed up while I was at work and spoke with my son at home and said that he could not tell there was anything wrong with the machine so my son knew to call me immediately. I explained that when we first got the machine it was so quiet that we had to really listen closely to tell if it was in the middle of a cycle. Even the spin cycle was quiet. Now you can hear it all through the house. He said that is normal after some usage and that since he didn't find an issue his job there was done. If we had to call him out again we would probably be charged a service call. I immediately called Aarons and demanded a replacement machine; which they did give me-same model. Now this machine not only has a slight smell of mildew but we have to manually drain it by putting the drain hose into a PVC pipe that we put on the floor and out the back door. It will also get stuck durring a cycle. For instance last night the digital counter was stuck on 8 for 10 minutes. I have tried everything it says in the maunual. We are extremely upset and frustrated with this machine.

We purchased a MAYTAG NEPTUNE WASHER AND DRYER back in 2000 when we built our home. I was never aware of any class action lawsuit against Maytag nor did I have any knowledge that I could have received a rebate of some kind. My washer does have some mold in the basket and around the rubber seal inside the door. That rubber was replaced a few years back. Also, when the machine is on the spin cycle it does shake and make a lot of noise. Can you tell me if it is too late to receive a rebate of any kind?

On 08/01/2006 I bought a maytag/neptune front load electric clothes dryer. About 2 months and a couple of day later the drum splits. we call the repair service , the repair man comes out looks at it , orders the part. says he'll be back when the part is delivered to my house. Well the part arrives but there is only one problem the drum is crushed . So we call back to the repair service, they say that they will have to locate another drum. finnaly after a couple of weeks. The drum arrives and a week or two or three the repair man comes back and fixes the dryer Well we go for a couple of months later and we have more problems again the dryer breaks, and again we call the repair service and again the repair man comes out, and you guess, the parts have to be order and ofcourse the parts are on back order. Finally the part comes and we have a fixed dryer again. We Hope.... You would think , Nope a week before my daughter's 21th birthday of this year 08. The dryer breaks down again. Well again we call/ they come out look at the dryer says its broken they the repair man orders parts. Again we wait for the day the parts arrive, they finally come but there is one thing wrong, its not the parts that is needed to fix the dryer, and again the repair man has too reorder the parts. I mean parts , new motor , new drum. new vent thing, new everything. All we like is a new outher caseing and we would have a new dryer. Finally the day arrives sometime in the later part of June of 08. and the the parts are here and the repair man is here, and we have a dryer again... For a while, well you would think with all these new parts that its fixed. Noooo. So in November just before Thanksgiving of this year 08. The dryer breaks again we call and a week later the repair man comes out , It the same poor guy that came out before, when we had too have all the new parts put on. He thinks he just might have the part in the repair van , nope he doesn't . He says that he will have to order the part but he doesn't know what roller that it will take so he will have to order 6 rollers , to make sure that he will have the right part. He was suppose to come and repair the dryer Dec 11,2008 but i got a call today Dec 10,2008. From the A&E Factory Service and said that the parts are on back order and again we will have to wait. So maybe before x-mas I might have a clothes dryer. Maybe or maybe after the new year comes in ..... Who knows

Our 2 year old Maytag Neptune front load washer has vibrated and jumped all over since owning it. We called service about the problem and were told to buy a pedestal to put it on. How ridiculous this is. The washer is tall enough and any more height would make it less stable. We were never notified of the service advisory sent out by Maytag on 5/1/06 describing that the control board needed replacing in the 8700 model washers because the sensor allowed the washer to spin to fast, thus causing the vibration, jumping and noise. On top of this the jumping around damaged some type of bearing in the rear tub. We were also never notified about a class action suit on this washer. I really would like to know why and it is already over. I just found out about all the problems with this washer on the internet today.

Purchased Maytay Neptune washer on 2007, Maytag claims that this is a energy efficient machine claim that appears not to be true since each load of laundry takes one hour or longer and still comes out without a clean smell. Please call or write to let me know if other people are having the same problem. Thanks

We purchased the stackable Maytag Neptune washer/dryer (model MLE2000AYW) in 2000. The first time it was used, the water wouldn't drain out and the entire unit was replaced. Black mold and excess water in the washer have plagued us for some time. Recently, the washer stopped working. The repair person came today and told us that the control board needed to be replaced, but that Maytag must have had a problem with the one for this washer so they now have an upgraded replacement. The only problem is that the present motor is not compatible with the upgraded control board and would also have to be replaced for a cost of approximately $560 in addition to the $75 we had to pay for the house call.
When asked about the thick, black, smelly mold, the repair man said to check the manual. He never mentioned the common complaint with the Neptune washers and mold or the retention of excess water in the washer drum. I would assume that a Maytag repair person would be aware of these complaints as well as the class action suit.

We purchased the Maytag neptune washer and dryer a few years ago and have had problems with them ever since. We are very disappointed with their products and will never buy anything made by Maytag again. The washer is not reliable, at times water leaks all over the floor and at other times there is a terrible odor after the clothes are washed, and also at times the door will not lock therefore the machine will not rinse and empty or spin and the clothes get ruined as they are laying in a pool of water without being drained out. We thought that by purchasing Maytag appliances that we were purchasing the best, top of the line........but we were mistaken. We cannot afford to buy a new washer and I am at times afraid of getting shocked because of the fact that the water leaks out at times onto the floor, and also at times the door will not lock and the machine has water in it but the electric is still on. Maytag is not a good product, we learned that the hard way.
