My husband and I purchased a Maytag Neptune washer and dryer in Oct. 2005. The washing machine is shot. The repairman told us that the bearing assembly and seal along with the stabilizer for the drum need to be replaced. The repairs would cost more than the $700 we spent on the washer. I spoke with Maytag. All they could do was offer an apology. Needed to vent my frustration of spending so much money and in a little over five years having to replace an appliance that we thought would last 10 years. We will never purchase Maytags again. My Maytag Atlantis washer (MAV8757AWQ) which we bought in 2003 started having problems with the spin cycle in 2009. I would sometimes have to repeat the rinse and spin cycle. The next problem was the loud racket the spin cycle made and the machine would sometimes seize. Then it started to leak during the spin cycle. Thanks to the input from people on this website, we were able to sort out a solution. We bought a thrust bearing kit and a triple lip seal and bearing kit. The triple lip seal and bearing replacement was a very difficult job but I think it solved the problem.

After all the hours and money ($170) we spent fixing these problems, I hope I am able to use this washer for a few more years. I am sending Whirlpool a letter with all of my bills. I read that after Maytag bought Amana, it had to cut costs so it started using cheaper parts. I will never buy any Whirlpool products or any of the other brands they own again!

I purchased a Maytag front-loader washer and dryer for $2400 4 years ago. An absolute lemon. I had to spend another $650.00 in repairs and recently both washer and dryer just went out. What junk. How does a company get away with things like this? They have hundreds, if not thousands of complaints against them. This caused consistent loss of money, excessive waste of energy and poor clothing wash.

I bought a Maytag Epic Z Washer MHWZ400TQ a little more than 2 years ago on this Black Friday. Its outer white holding tube broke at where the motor mounts so water leak out. Because the washer is in a small washer/dryer room so I can only take front lower panel off to view inside. It is out of warranty, but I still called Maytag customer service because it is clearly a problem with design, manufacture, workmanship, and/or the quality of material used. But the so-called corporate level supervisor was so impatient he almost shouted at me and only offered 75% off on parts and has to be ordered by myself. I don't think I am going to repair it myself or spend that kind of money to repair it. I videotaped the leak and I am going to post it on YouTube so anyone who’s interested can see it.

We Purchased Maytag Neptune Clothes Washer and Dryer. We noticed an odor in the wash and in our towels. It got worse when the cloths would get warm. We reported it to a local certified repair shop. They said we need to purchase tablets. We did and still had odor. We purchased new towels, clothes and bedding. The new items began to smell after a couple of washes. The odor got worse.

I took the washer apart and found the most disgusting amount of mold and sold scum build up in all the black rubber hoses and the most mold and scum on the arm that holds the Stainless Steel drum in. We get about 5 lbs of mold and scum out. We in our family were getting sick on a regular basis. Colds and sinus problems. When relatives and our grandchildren stayed with us they also experienced sinus issues. We believe this is a direct cause from the clothes, bedding and towels being washed in this disgusting mold. How would the owners of Maytag like for their families to be exposed to this mold or the moldy clothing they prospered from. This is a crime and they should have to pay.

I had a Maytag washer for 27 years. The transmission started to leak, so we bought a new Centennial Washer in Nov. 18, 2008. On Nov. 27, 2010, transmission on new washer has locked up and will not agitate. Maytag says they will pay for half the parts. Either we spend the money to fix the current machine or we pay about the same amount or slightly more to buy a new washer.

I have a Maytag Washer that has been serviced over 4 times for the same problem, the water doesn't spin out. The first time it was still under partial warranty. They replaced the transmission and it cost us about $300 it would have been over $600 if it had not been under warranty. I purchased an extended warranty, I had a general service on it earlier this year, covered under the warranty. They replaced some gasket or rubber belt covered under the extended warranty. Next, in August/September, the same problem again this time it was the motor, it burnt out. The first appointment, they called at around 4pm after I had been waiting for them all afternoon, the usual they will be there between noon and 4pm. Well, they over booked or it took the service person too long and they couldn't make it that day and had to reschedule. Got another appointment for a couple of days later and they showed up this time.

They replaced the motor at no charge, covered under the purchased warranty. It would have cost several hundred otherwise. Ever since this was replaced I have smelt a burning plastic smell. At first, I thought it was just something burning off the new motor and would stop after it had been used a few times, it didn't. Now, it's doing it again, it won't spin the water out. This time, we had an appointment for the Monday afternoon before Thanksgiving. They again had a problem and called at around 4pm saying the service person wouldn't be there and we would need to re-schedule the appointment for a week later! I explained to them in no uncertain terms this was unacceptable and was able to get another appointment for Wednesday afternoon with a Master Tech person.

Well, that person said that it was the electronics that controlled the washer and he didn't know why they replaced the other parts and didn't replace this. He had to order the part which since it was the day before Thanksgiving wouldn't be placed until Friday. We couldn't re-schedule the appointment until the part arrived at our house! In this day and age you'd think that they would be able to know when the part would arrive since they were placing the order! We will never buy another Maytag appliance. Right now, we have the washer and dryer plus a stove, microwave and dishwasher.

The dishwasher is one of the models on the recall and that took me 4 days to report it to them. I tried online and kept getting bumped out. I called the number on the notice and kept getting transferred and then the line was dropped or it wouldn't connect to anyone. I finally called the Maytag sales customer service and they helped me get it recorded and an appointment to get it fixed.

Guess it only costs me $150 a year to wash the clothes. Gosh that is less than $3 a week what a deal. Instead of throwing good money after bad I will forgo the repair and buy another washing machine. It won't be a Maytag. I really think Maytag could tighten up their engineering so that the failures could occur the day after the warranty expires instead of waiting another two years. If you are going to buy Maytag be warned.

I purchased my Maytag Atlantis set at Best Buy in 2002. First of all, the washer needed over 5 repairs in the first 2 years and after the 5th repair, they gave me a new one due to the contract warranty with Best Buy. Now the new washer has a rusted lid and I'm very meticulous with my appliance and wipe them down on a regular basis and it's still rusted. Oh yes, one of the problems was that the washing machine flooded my laundry room, kitchen, and dining room which is behind the laundry room completely!

My machine is moldy inside too and smells bad. Now for the dryer, well that thing has had the repairman here 4 times with the motor timer going out and now it just went out again. So my husband has to go buy the 100 dollar part and fix it himself. I had a Kenmore for 30 years and got rid of it because it was ugly. Boy, do I wish I had the ugly machine back now. Ugly is Maytag units!

Six weeks later and 6 service calls from Cliffs, we still have no heat and are unable to use our dryer. MAH8700AWW and dryer model no. MDE9700AYW. To start, my washer makes my clothes smell like mold, and I have to put it on spin cycle a few times to get it to spin out all the water left in my family's clothes. And as for my dryer, the drum has been replaced. (The weld on the seam was bad and it split.) Less then 6 months later, the thermostat went. I had it Fixed. Now the front display panel is bad. I purchased this set because I wanted a worry free washer and dryer that I could depend on. And by the way, did everyone notice that the little Maytag man isn't sitting around doing nothing on commercials any more because he is at my house repairing my washer and dryer. Sorry, a little humor. If not, I would sit and cry. Please notify me by phone or address.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer in 2006 and have had repairmen out a couple of times to deal with issues regarding the spin cycle and water draining. Now, my floor is covered in grease and oil. The repairman who came out today said that this machine is actually a Magic Chef machine not Maytag! The transmission is blown and needs to be replaced. The cost will be at least $450.00. The repairman advised us to buy a new washer. I looked online tonight and was amazed to find over eight pages of consumer complaints echoing my problems. If these many people have posted these problems, I can only imagine how many times these machines have let families down.

In October 2010, the machine would stop spinning when 8-9 minutes remained in the cycle, or with only 1 minute left. I was able to then, stop and restart the machine, to finish the cycle. However, in November, the same problem occurred again, which i was not able to correct. A repairman came from the above store and noted the struts were very worn, the control panel was overheating, and the pump was wearing out. The cost for these repairs were estimated at $866.77. Occasional heavy loads were done with this machine, but essentially, normal washes for two people. Needless to say, we are upset and disgusted, that this machine only lasted over four years. We thought Maytag was rated as the best. As retirees, do we pay this huge repair cost or purchase a new machine?

We called a repairman and were shocked when we were told that the transmission and clutch belt needed to be replaced.

Apparently, from looking at the posts of other Atlantis washer owners, this is a common problem. I called Maytag today to see if they would honor their 5-year warranty on the transmission since it only expired 3 weeks ago. First, I had a forty minute wait on the phone to be told that I needed to speak with the extended warranty folks since "they could do more for me"; another forty minutes later I was told that I had wasted my time talking to them since my extended warranty had expired 2 years ago. I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer (MAV1734EWW) and Maytag electric dryer (MDE7400AYW) in June 2003 from Lowe's. We had Maytags before but when we moved, we left them in our old home and purchased what we thought were high quality appliances. The washer has always made screeching noises and doesn't spin the water out of the washed items. In October 2009, the timer on the dryer stopped working. New timer plus labor was $290. The repairman suggested a service policy on both appliances which we signed up for. Thank God because 2 months later, the transmission in the washer stopped working. The policy covered the repairs 100%. This service policy was purchased from a local company and has nothing to do with Maytag.

Now, here we are a year later (Nov 2010) and the washer is making horrible noises again. The last time we tried to use the dryer, it smelled like something was burning inside like the motor? We clean out the dryer vent pipe every month, so that isn't the problem. We are done with Maytag forever! Maytag may have made good appliances once, but the Atlantis models are junk. Tomorrow, we will buy a new washer and a new dryer. I promise you, I will not ever buy another Maytag appliance. I had a 1993 Dodge Caravan that literally fell apart (transmission, motor, abs brakes, etc.), but even that piece of garbage lasted 12 years. My Maytag appliances only made it to about 5 before they began to crash. Maytag = junk.

I own a Maytag Ensignia washer and dryer. My first Ensignia washer left each load still dripping water. No matter how many times I pulled the clothes out and re-distributed them, they were still pretty wet at the end of the cycle. Maytag sent repairmen out twice in the first several months to fix the problem. Though I bought the machine partly because I needed a large-capacity washer (we have a large family), each repairman told me that I should not wash large loads in this machine and that I should not do frequent loads either. Each time, they would leave, telling me there was nothing wrong with my machine. I got so tired of having to take soggy clothes out, balance them and start the spin cycle again. My laundry was never finished until I had fiddled with it several times. It was especially upsetting because this is the loudest washer I've ever heard and I had to repeat the spin cycle over and over. When I finally called for another repair, Maytag replaced the washer with a new one.

I have the same problem with the new one, but to a lesser degree. The clothes are still pretty wet once the cycle finishes, but only when I wash towels or blankets are they still dripping water. The drive shaft broke on my washer shortly after I got the new machine. That's when we learned that the drive shaft is made of plastic. I asked the repairman at that time if that was common in high-capacity washers. He said only that I should not do large loads in this washer and that I should use it as infrequently as possible. I also asked if there was something wrong with the sound package, since the machine is billed as a quiet washer, but both of my Ensignia washers were so loud. He just shrugged and said there was nothing wrong with it.

I've also had trouble with the blades on the agitator/auger breaking off. I really try to keep my wash loads small so that they spin better, but even so, the blades have snapped off. I've replaced the agitator/auger unit twice now, spending about $80.00 each time. It's particularly galling to have to invest in a machine that is never going to spin my clothes very dry.

My Ensignia dryer has given me trouble as well. It began squeaking last year, but was still drying clothes. Finally, the squeaking became painful to hear and I started finding black streaks (they looked like lines from a black marker) on my laundry. My husband took it apart to see if he could fix it. We found that one of the stabilizing wheels had cracked and fallen off its axle. Since we don't have much faith in Maytag repairmen anymore, we ordered the part and fixed it. I've wondered if we could have avoided that problem if the clothes had not been so wet when they went from the washer into the dryer.

I purchased a brand new washer & dryer on August 1, 2005. Within the 1st year, the washer was making a loud noise and the bearing needed to be replaced. Since it was under warranty, I did not worry about it. Recently, this same bearing is bad again and needs to replace. I had bought an extended warranty; however, the warranty company is refusing to fix it as the repair of the item would be in excess of $800. They are offering me a settlement for a portion of the costs of a new one.

Honestly, I would expect that Maytag would stand behind their product for more than 1 year, and to have the same thing go bad that was already replaced within the 1st year of ownership is very discerning. Of course, when I contact Maytag, all they say is the item is out of warranty. Very disappointed that this company that I thought sold reputable products is like this.

My husband and I bought a house 18 years ago and it had an old washer and dryer. We decided to wait until they "died" before we bought new machines. They lasted and lasted. Finally, about two years ago, we decided to buy an energy saver washer and dryer and decided on Maytag Bravo because we thought it was the top of the line.

This washer is the biggest piece of junk and a major disappointment. I have called for service numerous times and was told by the Extended Service Plan Provider (ESPP) that it is going to take a minimum of two weeks or longer to get parts. They have replaced the drum twice in the past eight months. When I called the ESPP a few days, they told me that they cannot do anything as long as the parts are available. I was also told that Whirlpool is no longer making this product and parts will become harder to get and may take longer. I asked to speak to a manager and I was told I would have to wait up to 30 minutes before someone got on the phone. I left my name and phone number for a call back and have not received one. I'm sure the managers are very busy trying to deal with upset Maytag consumers.

I will never buy a Maytag or Whirlpool product again and trust me, I will tell anyone that will listen the same.

I have a Maytag Neptune dryer that I purchased in mid-2005. First of all, I must state that I was never notified of any recall and now I have a defective dryer that has to have the electronic board or sensor, or both, replaced because it is stuck on "51 minutes, sensor dry". It makes a constant chirping noise that is so annoying and does not start when it is locked in that position. I was told by one repairman that I can put alcohol on a cotton ball and rub that on the sensor inside the dryer and hope that works. It actually seemed to do something for a while and then that stopped working, too. Even with the alcohol "fix", I have to keep unplugging the dryer and praying that it will start so I can finish a load of laundry.

The only way I trust it to actually complete a dry cycle is to try to do a timed dry. I am not sure if the sensor is shot or if it is the whole control board that short circuited, and my appliance repairman is not sure either. He is suggesting I replace the board and see if that works. Great! It's about $400 to start in repair costs and still not sure if that will solve the problem. I am very upset. This was supposed to be the top of the line and a big splurge for me.

I remember the days when you invested money for a washer and dryer and they actually lasted for 20 or more years! I guess those days are gone forever. I am seriously considering buying a different dryer after reading all the complaints from others experiencing similar complaints. I'm not sure if it is worth it to repair it. So frustrating!

We bought a Maytag compact stackable washer and dryer in 2006. The front load washer, Model MAH 2400AWW, worked very well. We never had a problem with it, and it did a good job cleaning our clothes, until the motor burned out after only four years.

We had it in our vacation house, which was occupied, on average, only six months a year. So the actual time when it was in use was even less than four years. With parts and labor, the repair is more than half the cost of a new machine, so we are stuck with replacing it. Given that the 25-year-old Whirlpool washing machine in our year-round house is still going strong, I was surprised when the Maytag failed after such a short period of time.

There must be some design or manufacturing flaw in the Maytag, or else our machine is a lemon. The Maytag electric dryer that we bought along with the washer has never worked well. It sometimes takes more than an hour and a half to dry a small load of clothes. Sometimes the clothes are not dry after the dryer shuts off at the end of the cycle; sometimes the dryer keeps going after the clothes have dried and are quite hot; sometimes when I open the door to check if the clothes are dry, the dryer resets to the beginning of the cycle, even if the clothes are almost dry.

I neglected to get a service call for the dryer during the first year, when the warranty was still in effect, and have continued to live with the problems rather than trying to have the machine repaired. Compare the poor performance of our relatively new Maytag dryer with that of the 25-year-old Whirlpool gas dryer in our year-round house that still works as well as it always has, drying a large load of clothes in less than an hour, with a built-in moisture sensor that accurately gauges when the clothes are dry and signals the dryer the correct time to shut off.

Of course, both our Whirlpool washer and dryer have required a few service calls in the 25 years that we have had them, but neither one has required a major repair in all that time. I am shocked that today's manufacturers like Maytag are allowed to market poorly performing appliances that fail in less than five years.

We purchased a home in March 2010 that came with a Maytag washing machine. I immediately noticed a horrible odor and what appears to be black mold on the seal inside the opening. I called customer service and explained the problem. I was told to clean out the lint that collects in the brush under the seal. I used the bleach he suggested. But the smell never went away and the mold is now very black and it is nearly impossible to be around. I just came across the information about the class action suit that was settled and had a deadline to file in 2004. Since I did not have this product until 2010, shouldn’t Maytag still be responsible for fixing this problem or replacing the machine?

In April 2005, we purchased a Neptune Maytag front loader washing machine serial # 19091151GG model # MAH55FLBWQ from Home Depot in Neptune, New Jersey. After a year, I noticed the clothing smelled like mold after every wash. I noticed that mold was growing on the gasket (gray) around the front loader door, inside of the door, and also where detergent and softener is poured into. I called the warranty people at 877-342-1446. The tech came out and cleaned the machine, and told me I had to use this product called Affresh every month, and it would solve the problem. Now they come 3 in a pack for $15.00. He also told us to us Cascade dishwashing detergent. We did everything to alleviate the mold and it does not work. I have to do a dummy load with Affresh or Cascade before I do my regular wash. The smell really never goes away. It is a moldy, mildew smell.

We paid good money for thinking the best product and got a lemon, and only to find out just this week that there was a recall, class action suit out on the Neptune front loader washers! This ended in October 2005. When I called Maytag today, they told me there was nothing they could do for me. We bought the Neptune Washer in April of 2005 and did not receive any claim form. Austin informed me that Maytag did not get our paperwork about buying this machine till October 2005.

So why then, knowing that there was a recall and class action suit? Were they allowed to sell these lemons to the public! Austin, the Maytag supervisor, said my model number was not listed in the class action suit, but my serial number ending in GG is! We were taken advantage of. They never fixed the problem to begin with. They kept selling washing machines with the same problems! This is not fair. Please help me. Less than 2 years later, I had to replace it again at my cost. The washer will not spin out without manually resetting the timer to spin. After I bought mine, my son bought a model mav3600aww and he has had worse luck than I did. His quit spinning out and 2 days ago, it started grinding and was emitting a burnt wire smell. I tore it apart and found the drive motor frozen, in our opinion not worth fixing.

Out of curiosity, I took the timer out of his machine which is now at the curb for trash pick-up. I took it apart to see if I could figure out why it would not spin out. I found a plastic follower that rides on the timer spool broken and suspect that the same thing is wrong with mine. I can't believe that Maytag has not stepped up and made this right with consumers. I read the crummy reviews on the Bravo's Washer and did all my homework. The owner of a well known and respected appliance store here told me the reviews were wrong and it was a great set.

I purchased the Maytag Bravo's newest models and my salesman assured me he had last years model and it was great, efficient, quiet etc. I spent over $2000 on both the Washer MVWB750WQ and the dryer MGDB850WQ. I am so disappointed, I could cry. I only do a couple of loads a week but the washer is a nightmare.

It is true it knots the clothes in little balls and the dryer does nothing but set the wrinkles. We look like we are wearing dirty clothes. My salesman told me to put little groups of clothes around the area where the agitator is and I did but it does not help. Because the clothes have no water to cover them there is no room to swish they just ball up.

The best I have found is to do the hand wash load and put the spin on the least amount of spin but that means all my clothes are washed on the same cycle. It is very disappointing. In addition to that my machine started making a very loud sound like something was hitting the drum. I called the repairman and he literally took apart the machine and found nothing. It was not making noise when I left but we had it on a light load and he didn't listen to the whole cycle.

The very next load, I tried bulky on my first try. A single blanket. It was not off on the spin or anything, but immediately when it was filling and then the drum was moving it began to make this banging noise. The washer is located downstairs and while we had a movie in upstairs my husband asked me, "What is that awful noise?" I have another appointment for Friday which I believe to be a waste of time.

I am considering filing a small claims action if the store does not let me get something else. I will never buy another Maytag. The dryer is ok, not great. The steam function is nothing like I thought. It heats the dryer up for 4 minutes which pretty much will set any wrinkle, this is without steam. Steam comes out for a few minutes but really does not work for one item. It just makes the dryer wet inside and if too many items, the steam will just settle on the item closest to the one tiny steam sprayer on the inside of the dryer. Its a waste of $2000 in my opinion. I am a consumer advisor for the county of San Luis Obispo and feel like I should have taken my own advice and listened to the bad experiences others had, they were not lying.

Purchased a Maytag front load washer about a year ago with extended service plan. Shortly after purchase, the bearings in the wash machine went bad and it took the repair people almost 2 weeks to fix it. Last month, the machine started making noise again and it took them over a week to get here for the repair on the machine. After the people left, the washer started dumping water on the floor so I called the service number and was told it would be a week before they sent another tech out to look at it and it was just a loose connection.

I decided to remove the front cover to see if it was just a clamp that needed tightened up and found that the rear tub they installed in the machine had a huge piece missing out of the side. The missing pieces were not in the machine and there was no way the installers didn't see this huge chunk and crack in the tub. I called the service center again to be told they would send someone out next week and that after the tech looked to see that the part was broke, only he could order the replacement parts. They would then set another date in a week to two weeks for the parts to be put on. I told the guy they should just replace the machine or get the guys that put the broken parts in out here to fix this thing and he just laughed and said "that's not how things are done".

So after all this, I called Maytag at 800-688-9900 and was told after the products are purchased, it's not Maytag's problem but the service contract's problem. I was then told Maytag makes the best products on the market and when I pointed out the thousands of complaints on the Internet I was told that's just people's opinions and has nothing to do with the quality of Maytag.

Bottom line is they won't do a dang thing about this junk washing machine or the substandard service you get from A&E. I would never advise anyone to purchase this junk from Maytag.

    Update to last correspondence 7/29/2010.

I reported a dishwasher by Maytag/Whirlpool that, as last report and after a great deal of frustration, was agreed to be replaced by Whirlpool. It is now Sept. 24, 2010 and no action has been taken, under the guise that the dishwasher is, again, on back order. This has been the response every time I call. They again advised me that the dishwasher was being shipped to Bob's Appliance in Rochester for installation. On August 23, 2010, I called Bob's the day before it was supposedly going to be installed, and again was told they do not service my zip code.

I then called Whirlpool and talked to Eric (866-640-7146 x6364) because Alyssa (866-640-7146 x7771), my original rep who never returned any of my phone calls, was out of the office. Eric, again, contacted Bob's and found out I was, again, right. He did, however, finally find someone else in Preston, MN who would, in fact, service my zip code. However, the item was on back order so the point was moot, but it was supposed to be delivered to the installation company around the 30th of August.

Having not heard anything, by Sept. 9th, I called and left a message with Eric, who never returned my call. I then called customer service at the installer and was advised it has not come in but would be called when it came in. I waited for a call back from Eric, who had called me back once before, but apparently I'm back on ignore.

I then called customer service the week of Sept. 13, figuring I had given Eric enough time to respond. This time, I ended up talking to a customer service rep, Nicole, who advised me that the dishwasher is on back order until 9/21/2010. She claimed that if it didn't ship this time, I would have to take a refund. A problem with a refund is we bought the unit at Home Depot but they no longer install in our area due to distance, curbside only. We also bought an extended warranty through Home Depot which would transfer to the new unit if replaced but not if I bought it at Lowe's, who will still deliver to my area - cost of warranty $100.00 (rounded off). I wasn't pleased with the refund option.

I called today, 9/24/2010, at customer service and spoke to John who asked me if I had spoken to the installer since 8/27 (and here I thought he was looking at my file). I told him yes and that I had just spoken to Nicole in customer service almost 2 weeks ago and was told it was on back order until 9/21, also that the installer said they would call me as soon as they receive it (and they have proved to be responsive)- no call - no dishwasher at installer. John has advised me that there is no record of receipt or shipment of my replacement dishwasher. He also added that the Exchange Dept. is handling this and he has sent and action notice to them to call me tomorrow to discuss it. I won't hold my breath for a phone call. I cannot, in good conscience, ever recommend Maytag or Whirlpool products. Not because the product might not be reliable but because, if there's issues, they have to deal with the most frustrating customer service organization I've ever dealt with.

I purchased a Maytag Dishwasher, model #MDB7601AWQ, in 2006, for over $500. I purchased a Maytag because I have always had good luck with them, and told they were the best. The dishwasher stopped working over a year ago. The control panel has shorted out, but apparently the part costs over $100, and even more for a service call. I have contacted Maytag several times about this, without any satisfaction.

This dishwasher is part of the most recent recall that Maytag is having, but the recall has nothing to do with the issue that I am having. Because of the recall, I was offered either a $150 or $250 rebate. if I purchase certain model numbers. Of course these particular models are over $500, so this new dishwasher will still cost me over $300. Either way, I can not win. I was even told by a Maytag repair person that there should have been a recall on the problem that I am having with my dishwasher, because it is quite common, and very costly to repair.

Maytag is forcing the consumer to: a) Purchase a more expensive product from them b) sink a lot of money into a product that I no longer have confidence in or c) fill our landfills with junky appliances. I will never buy another Maytag product. I have lost all confidence in their company, which is unfortunate because I have had other Maytag appliances in the past, and have been happy with them. Unfortunately, Maytag is not the company they once were. I still have not resolved the problem, nor have I decided what I am going to do. Unfortunately, in this economy, I don't have an extra $300 to purchase or repair a new appliance. It will cost me over $300 to purchase a new Maytag with the rebate offered, or it will cost me over $300 to purchase a new part and have it installed. A crazy amount of money for a product that only lasted me a little over 3 years, that I originally paid over $500. for.

I purchased the Maytag washer this spring. It cost much more than I intended to spend, but it was supposed to be energy efficient, etc. My complaint about this model is, it was very poorly designed. The dispenser for dispensing the fabric softener is in the center of the dasher. When the wash cycle is over and it spins the water out, the centrifugal force spins out your fabric softener, after that it goes through the rinse. Now the fabric softener has never interacted with your clothes. Putting in fabric softener is like throwing the baby out with the bath water. The clothes don't smell good and are not soft.

I don't necessarily expect any kind of resolution to this, but I think the public should be informed of this crazy design. If someone would not know, this is happening, they are spending money for softener that is a total waste. I do not like this washer. A repair man told me this is the way it is supposed to operate. Also, the third thing that happened is that when setting the machine on a wash cycle, after the tub was filled, the machine just buzzed instead of going into the wash cycle.

Again, we would prompt the machine to do what it was designed to do and move the timer into the wash mode. I had a technician take a look at the washer and he said the transmission was shot, and wouldn't be cost-effective to repair. Note that this is less than a month after the extended warranty ran out. So, now I am looking to buy another washing machine, but will not be buying another Maytag product. Does anyone know if there has been a recall on this poorly made product? I now have to go and buy a new washing machine. I thought that by purchasing a Maytag that I wouldn't need to buy another washing machine for at least 10 to 15 years, not 5 years.

Just wanted to let everyone know. DO NOT buy Maytag. The Neptune washer and dryer look great in the laundry. Dryer is working out okay but the wash machine is a joke. Just got through scrubbing it with Lysol and now running Lysol through a hot cycle. The machine sounds like a 747 taking off in the spin cycle. Our hiking cloths smell like sweat, and we rinse them twice because we have had blisters across our toes. Soap was left in. I hoped that they would last as Maytag did for my Mom but we feel cheated.

This is about our Maytag Bravos Model MVWB400VQO with SN:CW3770762. We purchased this washer on 11/10/2008. The washer began making loud noises. The serviceman advises that the bearing on the bottom of the drum is bad. The drum bearing is a total combination. He knew prior to coming out the most likely cause of our problem, because this is a recurring problem with the model Maytag washer. The parts to repair this machine are on back order for approximately 2 months. The cost to repair is: $84.00 service charge; $253.39 parts; $160.00 labor. The total cost is $497.39 to repair versus buying a new washer for $800.00. We paid $800.00 on 11/10/2008.

We called a repair person and when we gave him the model number he told us that it wasn't made by Maytag but it made by Montgomery Ward and wasn't even worth fixing. We were really upset because we assumed that if it had the Maytag label it would be made by Maytag. It is deceptive to sell a product with another label on it and the washer is faulty.

Purchased a new Maytag washer. My fourth such machine after 54 years of marriage. I was always so happy with my previous machines, but this one is a huge disappointment! It is noisy, inefficient and very poorly engineered. The bleach dispenser is on the right-hand front of the tub! Most people are right-handed and so are loading the clothes from the right-hand side, which means that your are pulling the clothes across the bleach dispenser. I wipe it off after pouring the bleach in, but it has still ruined two nice items, removing color from them. Also, I don't like having to put the detergent in the washer before adding the clothing. I sometimes find the powder not dissolved as it sits on the bottom of the tub. Sometimes, I also want to add other items to the load after it has started and according to your instructions this fouls up the washing process. The whole machine seems "tinny" and a large disappointment.

My last Maytag washer lasted 20 years! I will be surprised if this one lasts 5! Go back to the drawing board engineering staff.

Physical damage: 2 ruined shirts (previously in excellent condition).

I have been doing laundry for over forty years. I raised 9 children including a profoundly disabled child with extreme laundry/sanitary needs. I bought this Maytag Bravos, top of the line machine, paying more for it than for all of the other machines I have had put together. I hate this new technology. My large sheets ball up because of no agitator. Some parts of the fabric only get sprinkled with water, never submerged. I have ran large sheet sets through more than once because of these problems. This is not saving water or energy. I hate this machine more with every month that passes. This new technology you have come up with is a great idea in theory. Now, find someone who has been doing dirty laundry for many years to test your new ideas the next time.

Trust me, all the claims made by the wonderful new liquid detergents are just as bogus as your machine's ability to depend on them to do so. Just wetting fabric a little, pouring on some magic liquid detergent and then rinsing does not get stains out. Nice idea, but not real. I spent $1200 on a machine that does not get most of the dirty clothes cleaned. It has twisted and torn some items and causes some wrinkles from the extreme wringing cycle to be permanent unless ironed with linen heat and spray. Also, I must now send our thin quilts out for cleaning. The machine just balls them up in the washer. It looks like a giant mushroom when I opened the lid and the inside is still soapy. They wash well in my cheaper, but old Kenmore. This is **. Now, I have to have them dry cleaned. What is wrong with this picture!

At the end of June/beginning of July 2010 I experienced problems with the functioning of the panel again. I called my service provider and was informed the panel had a warranty of 90 days. Maytag offered to pay 50% of the cost for a new panel due to the dryer being 7 years old. I asked how long was the first panel suppose to last and I could not get an answer from anyone. I have hated this set since I got it because it does not spin out clothing. You have to make sure you wash the same type of fabrics; you cannot have a sheet in with towels as they come out soaking wet. There are many issues with the pump and thank goodness, my husband has had experience with appliance repair or we would be doing major costs on repairs.

Now, the water temperature control is out. I have had it with the constant re-spinning clothing, removing wet clothes and re-spinning one thing at a time. Now, I realize it was not just my machine, but the entire model. I used to trust this brand as buying the very best. Maytag technician couldn't find anything wrong and said it was normal for that machine, redistributed the clothes .We still live with the vibration, once a while. I forgot to mention that the cost of all of the repairs done and the service calls were completely covered under the extended warranty.

August of 2010 (expired warranty) started making grinding noises. We redistributed the clothes and it stopped. We called for repair and the tech immediately said it was a bad pump $ 135; while he was replacing the pump he miss diagnosed "is not the pump, the pump is good, is the motor". Now replacing the motor will cost about $380- $400 and that it was not worth repairing because next may be the transmission, pump, timer etc, etc. The repair technician during his 20 years he had to replaced only twice a motor. It is very rare that the motor will not function in the short life of the washer. He though that is a faulty motor. Spoke with other repair companies to include Sears's technician and they said the same thing; it would cost a lot more to repair the machine than what it is worth! Better buy a new one.

I purchased a Dependable Care washer in 1998. Over the years I have minimal problems. I had one issue where it began to leak so I replaced the seals. No big deal. In fact all was well until a few days ago. No one would say, "Only 1 major problem in 12 years, how can you be upset?" Well here is the story.

A few days ago, I noticed that the agitator wasn't working. As far as I know it may have failed years ago. I never listened to the unit and when the top is up the agitator doesn't operate anyway. So I look on the forums to see what to troubleshoot. I ended up opening up the transmission and found that the yoke assembly was worn out where it attaches to the agitator shaft. So I figure it was a wear and tear issue and ordered the part.

It came in, I installed it and the unit agitated for about 10 seconds before it stopped. Thought I had installed it wrong, but when I opened the transmission I saw that the agitator shaft was not seated in the yoke any more. So I pushed it in and closed the unit up and then it hit me. There is nothing that is keeping the shaft in the yoke. I look at the parts list from Maytag and guess what? The manufacturers failed to install the agitator spring. Now this is not a small part and is not something that one can miss.

If it had fallen off in the transmission, the whole unit would have been shot. Without the spring the shaft has been free to move up and down since the unit was purchased. That is what ended up chewing up the end of the yoke. So I contacted Maytag (Whirlpool) and this is what they told me: 1. it worked for 12 years, so how could it be a part we failed to install. 2. You should have had a certified technician come out to do the repair (apparently the wisdom they gain being certified allows them to see parts that are missing that those of us who are not certified couldn't possibly notice). 3. No one else has ever had this problem before because we don't have any "quality" notices on this unit. Mind you that there are other threads on the internet where the user indicated that the spring was missing.

So based on the negligence of the manufacturer and the attitude of customer service, I will attempt to avoid purchasing any Maytag (and Whirlpool and their affiliates) products in the future. I will also tell my story to anyone who will listen. About $150 in repairs, but that is not the point. This is out and out negligence on a manufacturer. Just because it doesn't cause physical injury doesn't make them any less liable for their negligence.

I purchased a Maytag washer and dryer in early 2008 and installed them in our new home. A month ago, the machine started making a loud noise during the rinse and spin cycles. After reading through the manual that came with the washer, I decided I needed to call a repair man. The repair man inspected the washer this week and discussed his previous experience with this machine. He said it is known that the tub bearings last about 2 to 3 years, which is the problem. He said he would have to take the machine to his shop to repair it because it would have to be broken down to get to the area that needs repairing and it would take about 6 hours. The cost is at least $200.

The repair man also told me that this would be a recurring repair and I should expect it to last about 3 years. My husband called Maytag to discuss this matter. Of course, the warranty is expired, so we will have to bear the cost. We were offered a 25% discount on the parts. I am shocked that I will have to spend this kind of money on what I consider a new washing machine that I paid $800 for just a little over 2 years ago. The economic damage that has resulted is the large repair bill that I will incur to have this washer repaired. I understand the cost of upkeep and repairs and expect that as an appliance ages, but this machine should perform longer than 2 years before major expense is incurred.

After two service calls, I was told that they worked as designed. I would pay to get my 40-year-old real Maytag back. It cost me approximately $400.00 and two months of aggravation. I'm disgusted with Maytag/Whirlpool for not being able to copy an old design that worked.

Of course Maytag will not replace it, they want to send a technician out to half repair it again until the warranty expires I'm sure. On top of that, the technician called to reschedule the appointment for a week after I placed my service call. This is very aggravating and someone needs to come up with a better process! I will never purchase another Maytag appliance and I will certainly spread the word to my family and friends.

Since we've purchased our Maytag washer, we have had nothing but problems with it. Since day 1, it has jumped across the floor. It shakes so hard that it has ripped the flooring and cracked the dry wall in the laundry room. We have had it serviced several times, and I believe I have spent more on service fees and purchasing additional parts than what I probably purchased the machine for originally.

Each time that it has been "fixed," it returns to its usual behavior a few days after. Its latest issue is that now the machine has "locked" us out. The door won't open! We have tried unplugging it, turning it off, trying to start a new cycle....nothing works. And unfortunately, the wet clothes that are in there will probably be ruined by the time the service technician can come. They couldn't get here for another 2 days.

It is really unfortunate to spend hard-earned money on a product we thought had a great reputation. But it is the biggest "lemon" we have ever purchased. The sad thing is that we had an old top-loading machine that worked perfectly fine, but which we got rid of, so that we could "go green" and buy something newer that used less water and energy.

It turned out that the water valve regulator and the drum bearings went bad in less than a year. In other words, the entire washer has to be rebuilt. I purchased it on December 2007 and had to replace the lid in 2008 from rust. They are stored indoors and if you look under the top of the washer, it has rust also.

I contacted Maytag and asked to speak to someone about washers and rust and was told that there was no one to speak to. They did however tell me that it was out of warranty but would replace again. Why can't they make one that I have to keep replacing the lids. As I stated, they are kept indoors in my kitchen area and should not be rusting.

I would like someone to look at it and see that they are taken cared of and should not be rusting; it gets rust on my clothes.

I purchased a Maytag Neptune approximately 5-6 years ago. I am aware of a recall/problem after I purchased the machine, and they came and replaced, I believe, a gasket. There was water getting into the machine around the door. They did come and do this, but it did not fix the problem. I have called two times now, complaining because the water now sits inside the machine and is causing mold. My clothes are coming out smelling musty. My daughter is very allergic to mold, and every time I wash her clothes, she develops a rash.

At the same time, I purchased a Maytag range. I have many issues with this also. Every time I used the self-cleaning feature, it left a dark brown stain on the outside of the door. When I called to customer service, they told me it was due to a lot of acidic material (pizza, tomato, etc.) on the bottom of the stove. This was never the case. I have a one-year-old stove that looked about 20 years old. I will never purchase a Maytag product again. I am not able to use the washer if I am washing any of my daughter's clothes due to the rashes developed by reusing the stagnated water. She has to go to a relative's house to wash her clothes every time. This is ridiculous!!!

I purchased a Maytag Legacy about 8 years ago. I had the first Maytag one week and they had to come and get it. It turned out to be a Lemon. Everything went wrong with it. They brought me another one, same model that worked for 8 years but would not hold the water when soaking clothes. Instead the water would flow out the bottom of the washer and flood the laundry room over and over. There was a loud roaring noise when it would go into the spin cycle. Well, yesterday after the service man spent two hours on it, checking it out, my home owners insurance decided that it wasn't worth fixing. They decided that it would cost more in labor and parts than it would to buy a new washer.

The reason I'm writing this to the Maytag Company is because of growing up. Maytag was always the brand that stood out amongst the rest of the brands, the elite washer. But after two Maytags that I have had now, I decided Maytag washers are not what they used to be and I will never buy another one again. Two in a row is enough for me. I think your company should be aware of their products and the products’ ability to perform the functions they are made to do. I'm sorry but these ‘two’ Maytag experiences have been a real let-down to me and I wanted to let you know that you should really do something about this. I'm sure that I'm not the only consumer who has complained about the washers in the past.

We purchased a Maytag Neptune Washer on 8/22/05. The first service call was in December of 2005. The repair was to replace a water level switch.

Since then, we have had many more calls for repair. Generally a different part would be changed. There have been 2 recurring problems. The first being the softener dispenser would not dispense. Twice, they had to replace that part. Several incidents involved the washer not draining, with error code 'nd' , which happened at least 4 times. Finally, the washer would not spin out all the water, leaving the clothes too wet. One of the repairs included replacement of a motion sensor, and the control board. One repair was to replace a broken pump. Thankfully we did purchase the extended warranty.

Yes, we did pay over $1000 for this washer. Yes, each time it breaks down, it takes several days before a service person can come, then several more, each time a part must be ordered and installed. Each time, we incur more charges in having to use the laundrymat. We are a large family, so the laundry costs have been a drain on our budget. I do wish I was aware of the problems with this model before purchasing it. In this economy, I cannot buy another washer.

We purchased a matching Maytag Atlantis washer (MAV6461AWW) and dryer in July 2006. The first year we had the lid replaced because it had rusted. It also wasn't spinning out water as well as expected but the Maytag technician couldn't find anything wrong and said it was normal for that machine. We remained leery of the explanation and purchased an extended warranty from Maytag in 2007. The second year, the new lid had rusted but now was not considered a covered item.

In January of 2010 we renewed the warranty again for another year at $110.72. With the original purchase price of $499 plus the extended warranties, we have well over $800 "soaked" into this crummy washer that leaves clothes too wet. We are concerned this is putting too much stress on the dryer.

Jump to June of 2010 and the agitator started making grinding noises. We redistributed the clothes and it stopped but it left even more water in the clothes after spinning. We called for repair and the technician immediately said it was a bad transmission and never even looked at it. He went to the truck to call in for parts and came back with "good news". Maytag won't fix it but we are covered for replacement. Someone from federal Warranty Service Corp. will call us within three days. It has been five days and still no calls.

With over seven pages of complaints, this certainly seems like something that deserves a class action lawsuit. The repairman told me Whirlpool immediately trashed all remaining units when they bought out Maytag.

My Maytag Bravos top loading washer has ripped several loads of laundry over the past year. My first experience was that I called Maytag to make them aware of the issue, and they sent a technician out to make an assessment. The technician replaced a part in the bottom of the tub that rotates the clothes. He said that should resolve the problem. However, the problem kept occurring.

My nice sheets and towels are among the many items destroyed by this machine! I called Maytag again to let them know what happened and they scheduled a technician to come assess, again! After talking with the technician, he told me that I was responsible for payment of the service call. After hearing that, I became frustrated and called Maytag again (keep in mind, each phone call takes an average of 15 to 20 minutes). I had to talk to 3 different people and explain my disaster 3 different times.

After arguing back and forth with the consumer affair representative, Joy (who wasn't joyful at all), I was told, "Fine, we will pay for the service call, but we will not pay for anything else regarding this matter!" I then told her that the statement is incorrect, because if the technician cannot fix it, Maytag will have to replace the defective product. She then corrected herself and told me that we must wait and see what the technician says in the report. The technician came out and, of course, was not able to fix the washer and saw the damage it has caused to my clothes. He wrote a summary and submitted it. I called Maytag, and they did not receive the summary, so they asked me to call back in 24 hours.

I will be calling them tomorrow to see how it turns out and will let you know. I have a feeling that Maytag is not going to make it right and stand behind their product. They have been trying to run away from their responsibility of providing a working washing machine! It's so sad! You wonder why American companies are getting outdone by China!

I purchased a new Maytag Washer through Loews and a 5 year warranty on the washer. When the clothes and towels and bedding were washed the agitation was so harsh it ripped the hems and seams and made new items look faded and worn out. Our clothes and towels would get tangled and caught under the agitation device and it would be very difficult to remove them from each other and even harder to remove them from the machine. There also was a problem with the warm water. To better dissolve the soap and clean our colored clothes we have used warm water for many years. However our new Maytag has hot water running onto the clothes then later the cold water comes out separately. This causes hot water to contact our bright colors causing them to fade.

We contacted the repair service and they said there was nothing they could do to change the operation of the machine as it was operating the way it was designed to. It says 3 cycles but really each cycle has the same agitation speed so we cannot put anything in the gentle cycle or wash any small or medium loads in our washer due to the increased roughness when there are smaller loads. A fabric shredding machine is not what we expected from a reputable company like Maytag, however that is what we got.

I have had to use the laundry mat for the past year and a half since I cannot use my new Maytag. This has been an increased financial burden, more time consuming and defeats the entire purpose I purchased my own washers. I am not supposed to be lifting or carrying things because of heart problems and balance issues. Some fine lingerie, towels, bedding, clothing were ruined. I purchased the Maytag Washer good faith that I could use it to wash a gentle, permanent press, and a regular wash cycle without undue damage and destruction to the items. The agitation has only one speed: very rough.

Thank goodness I had insurance on it the last time it broke down, because it was the motherboard and it would have been real expensive for me to repair. The washer smells moldy, and it is the worst washer for cleaning your clothes. There's no freshness to them. Thank goodness the dryer I bought at the same time is still running; at least, when I go to the laundromat, I can bring them home to my dryer. The dryer is a Neptune dryer with the whole top compartment.

I spent a lot of money for the pair, but the washer has been a piece of crap. I bought it because I was told it was a great washer, and yes, the commercials say the Maytag guy has nothing to repair. All Maytag would offer me was 15% on buying another Maytag. No way will I buy Maytag again.

You can press any of the buttons and it does not do anything. Every now and again, I will push a button and I can get it to start, but it is very infrequent and random. The model # is MDE5500AYW. When I called Maytag yesterday, all that they said is they can send a repair person out. From what I have read, I will either have to replace the control panel or the mother board. So, I am looking at spending between $130-350 just on the replacement part. So, right now I am going to the laundry mat.

In February 2003, we purchased brand new Maytag washer/dryer from the ABT store in Glenview, Illinois. Since we are "empty-nesters", the weekly loads of wash are what my husband and I alone generate. I have been washing laundry for more than 40 years, so I believe I know my way around using washers and dryers properly. The Maytag washer we bought: oversized capacity plus washer PAV3360 model. The Maytag dryer we bought: clothes dryer Model #SDG5701AWW.

Well, after 4 service calls over the years on the washer, it finally broke down to the point it no longer made sense to pay for the costly repairs needed. At that point, the repairman told us with the machine pulled apart, that we did not own a Maytag, we really owned an Amana product! Meanwhile, the clothes dryer also required 4 various service calls for repairs. It is now on its "last legs" and we have been informed that this, too, is not a Maytag but an Admiral product!

All the outer branding on both machines says "Maytag" as do both product manuals included with purchase but we have now spent more than the combined total cost of the original purchase price of these two machines in repair costs and I feel that Maytag has defrauded us, big time! Thank you for considering our story. I do not consider ABT, the store where we bought these machines, responsible for Maytag's duplicity.

While researching this problem I find out that there was a class action suit regarding the bad odors (never notified) and recall with model mah9700 spin cycle that sounds like my problem with mah8700. Our old beat up washer (different brand I might add) came to us second hand and we got easily 10 good years out of it. Yes, my husband is very handy and had to replace a belt here and other worn out things there but that was a ** good washer. Even when they know of these serious problems, they don't inform the customers of any recalls nor get the problems fixed! Sears shouldn't deal with manufacturers that don't have any Quality Control nor responsibility towards their products. Bad clutches, sensors, motors...etc. They should give you a spare when you buy the one set, so you can have it replaced they first time it breaks. You'd still lose, but not as badly...

Loss of time and aggravation of having to look for parts, and the expense and mistake of purchasing to other Maytag sets from Sears. For the money I spent, I could have purchased a commercial washer/dryer that could last me for 20 years. I have my GE Profile frig for over 20 years. At least they did something right.

Once the machine is disassembled and the item is removed from the pump, you can continue the cycle. I have three children, a handicapped brother and son, and a husband who is a mechanic. I have read many of the same complaints from other consumers on the internet. I do know a lawsuit was recently settled on older Neptune models.

We have had - at different times, 7, 4, 5, 7, 4 extra people besides my husband and myself using our machine. Until 2009, we had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS at all with either machine. I lost count a long time ago the number of loads of laundry that my washer has done. It does have mold on the inside of the rubber gasket, right inside of the door. You know, all you have to do is wipe it down after every use, and if necessary, use a little bleach on it. Sometimes I even run it through an entire cycle just to clean it out, just like I do my dishwasher and garbage disposal. The bolt came in right away, but the scheduled service for April 28 was cancelled, because the tub and basket were back-ordered until May 7. I went to Home Depot where the items were purchased to complain and got the parts overnighted. They arrived on April 29, and Home Depot scheduled a service with A&E to fix the washer on Friday, April 30 between 8-12pm.

At 11:20am on that Friday, I called A&E to see where the technician was, and I got the response that we were not on their schedule until May 4! They told Home Depot that they had overbooked and I had been bumped from their schedule. I had been told by A&E that this would be a 2-man job and would take close to 3 hours to fix and that they could get to me on May 4.

I called Whirlpool/Maytag to complain and spoke to Andrea who called a few service companies and got me an appointment for Saturday, May 1 with American Pride. A technician named Craig would call me in the morning and be here to fix my machine between 8-12pm. Do you think Craig called? No! At 9:30, I started calling American Pride and finally reached Tony at 11:20am. He told me that I was not on their schedule and that he actually did not have anyone named Craig working for him but he knew a Craig that worked for American Home Service and gave me their number telling that Maytag must have screwed up.

I called American Home and spoke to a receptionist who told me that I was not on their schedule and that they don't fix washers on Saturdays. I called Home Dept and spoke to Stuart who then got in touch with America Home Service and got Craig here.

The issue is that Maytag dropped the ball and did not communicate to American Services what the actual problem was with the washer, and therefore, they only sent one technician when they knew I needed 2 to fix the washer. They also gave me the wrong ** contact information. Austin, a manager from Whirlpool/Maytag offered an extended warranty and $150 money back. But who needs that! I need my washer that is 3 months old to work!

I will never buy an appliance from this company again. They don't stand by their warranty, their team does not know their ** from their elbows and blame the customer! I can't believe that with all we've been through and how patient we have been, now almost 3 weeks without a washer, that neither Home Depot or Maytag have offered to replace this machine!

When Craig arrived solo, he said he will be back on Monday with help to work on it, but he has never seen such a bad damage to a new machine and that I deserved a new one! This coming from a licensed technician who services these things all the time. We deserve a new machine and Whirlpool/Maytag's deepest apology for this tremendous inconvenience.

I am 4 months pregnant and have been hauling baskets of laundry to my neighbor's house since April 16. I have sat in for 8 hours for scheduled appointments through Maytag, waiting for a service person who never showed up! I called for repair and 2 days later, the repairman came, replaced the circuit board and ran through a few wash cycles and voila, it was fixed. I got home with mounds of clothes to wash, put in clothes, detergent and clorox, turned on and 1 minute later it was inoperable again. It was the same thing. I called immediately and was told I could not get an appointment for 6 days. 6 days later, my husband who works nights stayed awake and there was no repairman.

I called AE Service to see what was going on and was told the repairman showed up and ordered the part. I explained that no repairman had shown up and how did they know what the problem was if no one showed up. I was then told that there was a problem with the circuit boards and they had seen this before. So, my husband stayed awake for no one to call or come by. He is an RN in a very high volume emergency room and loss of sleep is detrimental and could cost someone a life if he is not rested.

That means at this time, it's 2 days my husband got no sleep. Three days later, the part arrived and I called to set up appointment. I was told 6 more days until someone could come by and install the part. 6 days later, the repairman showed up, again my husband stayed awake to have the washer repaired. The repairman replaced the circuit board and ran through a load of clothes before he left. All was okay. Nope, I got home and was excited to get caught up on clothes.

I put a load to wash and all was okay until it reached 18 minutes left. It got stuck and the motor was running and running and running with nothing happening. I turned the power off and still the motor continued to run. At this point, I was alone at home and afraid that it will catch fire, etc. With the washer full of water and the clothes which becomes a little heavy, I managed to pull the washer a few inches from the wall to access the plug and had to unplug to stop the motor running. This is the short version of my experience with my new Maytag washer. I have had to load up dirty clothes in my car and head to the laundromat, and beg neighbors to allow me to wash clothes. My husband has missed 3 days of sleep and this has been a horrible experience.

This is the short version of my experience. I have lost faith in Maytag and try to remind myself that it is not Lowe's fault. They carry the product and do not manufacture it. All I want is to be able to clean my dirty clothes with my new Maytag Washer. That is what I paid for and that is what I expect. I am not expecting anything else. I have been patient up until now because I know things happen. All I want is to wash my clothes. My husband has lost 3 days of necessary sleep waiting for repair. Several times they did not call. His loss of sleep can be fatal to another person when they come into the emergency room if he is not rested. If he makes a mistake, he could lose his license and then would be out of income and 18 years of a career. I have had to lose valuable time with my family to go elsewhere to wash clothes and that money has come out of my own pocket.

They tell me it doesn't require as much water which worries me as it doesn't appear to be getting clothes wet enough and clean. I will never buy another Maytag product! I should have complained more, the washer shakes badly. I had a Sears repairman out three times to no avail. I called Maytag and complained, but they did nothing. I finally gave up. We bought the machine in December 2006 only now decided to mention it to a Sears salesman just out of sheer disappointment not expecting anything new would happen. The salesman said that there were a lot of complaints about the Neptune series and they had given some credits on new washers. After calling the Sears 800 number, the man I talked with said it was too long since we bought the washer to do anything about it now, even though it hits the wall and damaged our floor.

My wife and I were given a two-month old Maytag Legacy Series (heavy duty) washer. We've had it now for nine months or so. We have a house full of six people and enjoyed the large capacity of the washer. But for the past month, the machine has been increasingly noisy. Trying to grind the dirt out is my speculation of the noise that comes from down the hall.

A small reoccurring puddle of water shows up, peaking out from under the machine, not good. I rolled the ugly beast over on its side to see the belt and three pulley arrangement on its underside. Leaking evidence from the tube's main bearing and the (possibly) transmission in the right rear corner had a terrible case of dry worn out loose wobbly bearing.

This noise maker will be a booger to replace. I searched the net for other complaints and see the same problems with Maytag washers less than two years old. I have settled on a yard sale washer to replace this beast and cannot afford a service call. The water on the floor has since dried up and the laundry room is quiet.

I have had to have the timing circuit board and wax motor replaced 6 times. This is unacceptable. I have researched Maytag products and found that Maytag's idea of standing behind their product is a sad indictment of the way they conduct business. I purchased this washer because it was touted as being a premium product but is actually just so much junk. I once had a Westinghouse front loader that served two families, with 4 children, for 25+ years before it required any service at all!

The appliance repair told us to throw in extra towels, which does not work either. I have spent over $400 in repair bills and still have the problems. I was not notified of a lawsuit as I read about tonight in 2005. Why? My first Maytag lasted for over 30 years and this one is garbage. Is there any course of action I can take at this time? As far as I can tell, Maytag has not rectified the problem two years later. We should be entitled to the same treatment as the previous model owners. Please advise. We had to call the repair technician twice on the door locking mechanism and the mold stench from the washer is noticeable. We use ammonia in the rinse cycle to control it somewhat. It makes our family members sick--few of us are mold sensitive right now, partly because of continuous exposure to this unit.

Estimated cost of repairs were ridiculous. Therefore, I purchased another washer. Then the dryer issue began, from overheating to no heat.

I think Maytag owes a lot of consumers damages for replacements and repairs due to their faulty products. These products should have never been marketed because obviously they were not tested properly. This has caused me extra expense to replace washer and now the dryer, and expense of repairing flooring and baseboards.

I then manually moved the dial to 'spin'. The machine spun for another 2 hours. I finally manually moved the dial to 'off'. I called Fry's in Roseville at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm the following day. After each call, I was assured that the manager would call me back promptly.

Nine hours later, I received a call, but not from the manager. I was told by a staff person that the manager would not be in for another 2 days. The staff person told me that the cause must be in the plumbing and that they would send a technician to fix the machine. I advised the staff person that I wanted a replacement, not a 'fix'. I was told that since the problem was probably pluming that they could not give me a replacement. I have tested the wash cycles 3 times and the dial does not move, however Frys does not believe this to be true. My father then went to Fry's to complain and about 1 hour later was advised by the (mysterious) manager that I would provide a replacement in 3 days.

I thought this was a "heavy duty" machine. Replacing a washing machine is not cheap so I've put up with this lousy machine for a long time now and sadly, I will have to for some time to come because I do not have an extra $600 sitting around to replace this once (allegedly) "top line model" with an "economy" machine. In March 2001 I purchased a Maytag Atlantis Washer MAV7000AWW and a five-year extended warranty from Best Buy. The total cost was about $690. In 2005 the water would not get completely out after the spin cycle. I called the repairman and he came out the next day and replaced the pump. After he left I did a load of laundry and it did the same thing. I called them back the same day and the repairman returned the next day and really didn't know why it was still doing it. So he said he would replace the motor and the belt and see if that would fix it. That did fix the problem.

In 2006 it developed a bad vibration during the spin cycle. I called the repairman and he said it was balanced. He thought the problem was because we had replaced our vinyl floor with laminated wood flooring. Laminated flooring is more cushiony. We still live with the vibration. I forgot to mention that the cost of all of the repairs done and the service calls were completely covered under the extended warranty. I didn't pay a penny. With the exception of the vibration it has run great from 2006 until now.

Now it will not agitate. It will fill, drain and spin. Have not called a repairman because the warranty has expired. By observing the operation and the terrible sounds it makes, we believe it is the transmission. I have a family of six and this washer has done an average of 12 loads of laundry a week for the past nine years. Can't complain about the service of the machine. Now that we are going to have to buy another washer, I am concerned about getting another Maytag just because of the reviews I've read here. I can't afford the high-end washers. It used to be, for $600 you could get a good dependable washer. I guess nowadays quality has gone but the price has remained the same. I don't know what to do now. I can't afford a $600 mistake.

My complaint is about my Maytag Neptune front loading washer Model MAH55FLBWW. We purchased this item 7 or 8 years ago after being blessed with twins. Up until March 2009, my only complaint had been the mold on the gasket -which is disgusting to say the least - and the goop build up on the soap dispenser. That all changed last March when I awoke to water standing in my laundry room, my son's bedroom, across the hall (and my new hardwood floors) into the bathroom, and into my computer room.

It cost us $1000.00 to repair the damage from the washing machine. We utilized our home warranty program and paid $60.00 for the Sears repairman to come out. His comments to my husband was that he'd never heard of this problem and had nothing in his manual to troubleshoot this problem. My husband also called Maytag who said they had received "no reports of such incidents". A water valve was changed, though we lost faith in our washing machine. About a month ago I opened the washer and saw water standing in the tub of my washer.

We've been turning the water off after each use to prevent any repeat. This morning as I was in a hurry, I started a load of laundry and left for work. When my daughter returned home this afternoon, she found water all over the laundry room. Luckily we don't believe we have the extent of the damage as we did last year but we're very upset. I have 5 family members to cloth, no usable washer, and a disappointing investment. We won't ever purchase a Maytag again!

Apparently, the Service people that Maytag sent 'A & E Service' stated it is a software problem since the software in the control board determines the level of water needed.

The tub is huge but if there is not enough water in any of the cycles, the clothes get tangled and do not smell clean. My wife is furious to say the least! Seems like a good machine and hope Maytag -Whirlpool does address this issue. Wish we had kept the old Kenmore which had a knob and gave the person the ability to increase the water level. I called a local repairman who told me my best bet was to use it until it quit or until I just couldn't stand the noise any longer.

To fix the washer, I would have to buy the whole inside (the part alone was over $450), since everything in my model was built together as one part. That's about half the cost of the new machine. My question is why weren't these machines pulled off the shelves when there was a class action suit and why weren't all the people notified of this? I purchased mine in August 2005.

What about all the people who spent $100.00 plus the extended warranty and extra service calls? Why weren't we notified or offered $1000.00 certificate for a new washer? I contacted a Maytag repairman who said that it sounded like a buffer ring and that this was common in this type of machine. He said, he would call me back but never did.

As I investigated more, I realized that I was not alone with this problem and the repairman knew that this machine just could not be fixed because it is some sort of a manufacturers defect. I contacted Maytag who basically said, try leveling the machine and that the warranty was over and they could do nothing about this problem. I checked everything on this machine. My son, who works in repair and maintenance, said he would look and the machine and replace the buffer ring if need be.
