We purchased the Maytag Neptune Washer and Dryer in Sept, 2005 when we bought our house. We purposely bought Maytag because we thought their appliances were top-of-the-line. We thought wrong. The washer violently spins out of control all over the place. We've tried everything, had repair people come in and we're told there's nothing wrong with it. We can't spin it on the max speed otherwise it would crash through the floor/wall. It also leaks water because it spins so violently and the clothes stink when they come out.
I've always used the HE type detergents specifically made for front loaders and never use a lot of soap. The dryer drum wheels broke and the felt came off. We're told we have to replace the entire drum ($500). We were also told that the Neptune's aren't even made by Maytag to boot! I feel we were entirely ripped off. These appliances cost over $1500 and they're only four years old! I will never buy a Maytag product again! This is a total nightmare. Our laundry room floor is getting ruined because of the violent spinning, marks on the wall/floor, water leakage on the floor, not to mention we can't afford to buy a new washer and dryer so we're screwed!

I bought a Maytag Neptune washer and dryer 2 years ago. It is the biggest hunk of junk. The spin cycle sounds like a freight train and vibrates all over the place. We replaced the floor, so it's not that. The drive belt on the washer's tub has cut the drain hose twice, therefore, messing up the floor in the laundry room. On the Neptune dryer, the lint gets beyond the filter and clogs the hose line. I have to take a coat hanger down there every time I dry clothes and make sure there is no more lint.

I am extremely disappointed with the Maytag Neptune washer and dryer we purchased in 2006. The fabric softener dispenser has not worked since 2007 and about six months ago, we noticed the concrete darkening around the machine as if it was wet. My husband began looking closely and discovered that the machine is leaking and the parts connecting the drum are all rusted. Lately, the machine is not draining, leaving our clothes to sit in dirty water. Yesterday, the dryer began not heating enough to dry the clothes. It is truly a shame that a company can produce such a poor product.

I bought an expensive Neptune washer and dryer about 7 years ago. I replaced boot in the washer twice. Now it needs a rear bearing. The same week, a fin in my dryer became disconnected and service will be here on Mon. I will find out the cost then. I will never purchase another Maytag and would have gone with Whirlpool but am scared too after the merger.

I purchased a Maytag washer/dryer set in June 2005. I have had numerous repairs on the washer and it still does not spin correctly and the only cycle that still works is the regular cycle, the others don't spin. Also the dryer stopped working altogether. I had a tech and he worked on it for 3 hours and it still does not work.

I purchased a Maytag Neptune front load washing machine and had vibration problems from day one, and told that was normal. The 2nd year, it got so bad the washer was pounding and walking all over. We had already beefed up the floor as suggested. The repairman said he contacted Maytag and they sent him a dampener to install on the machine to make it better. We have it on gentle spin, which is the lowest you can use, and it still pounds and dances around no matter what size load we use. We are going to junk the washer and never buy another Maytag product.

I bought my washer and dryer (Neptune) in 2006. Thank God I got the extended warranty. The washer quit in 3 weeks the first time. I have had repairmen out 7 times since. Once the washer was down for 6 weeks while they found a part for it. Dryer is down now. It has been for a month. I have complained several times to the warranty people and to the Maytag company. No one has done a thing. Keep putting me off. I want a new washer and dryer because after my warranty is up next year, I will be left with a repaired junk. I didn't pay $2,000.00 to get junk. This is the first and last time I will buy Maytag.

The product is rubbish. I now, for the first time with any washer, have grubby towels, underwear, and shirts. I cannot wash clean with this washer. I replaced my 10-year-old washer as it was upstairs, and I feared a leak in its aged mechanisms. I do not know how to get clean laundry now. I cover articles individually with laundry detergent in the hopes of getting them clean. Never buy Maytag again.

After 5 service calls on my brand new 10-month-old Maytag washer, I'm now being told that the drum is 'gone'. This will take two hours to be repaired. I feel I was sold a 'lemon' and I think I should get a brand new machine. I have been patient long enough. Expenses I have had to incur are Laundromat expenses and time off from work on these 6 occasions.

I purchased my Maytag Neptune series in 2005. My mother had hers a couple of years and liked them, so I upgraded my old set to them. She had a minor issue when she first got it, but it was repaired and went on. She left the set in their old home when it was sold and upgraded to the newer model of it. At the 6-year mark, about 6 months after my parents sold their home, the owners called wanting my mom to pay the $600 repair bill. Of course, no way was it happening. Then mom's new set started having issues. It has always jumped around and service people have cited unbalanced, too many clothes, etc. It's laundry, folks, not rocket science. It has ruined the floors in their home, but since it's already ruined, she's using it till it dies.
Back to my Neptune set, I have been cleaning mold from around the seal since day 1. Less than 5 years after we purchased the set, it sounds like a jet engine during a spin cycle. I know there's no use even calling someone in to repair it because it's out of warranty and the repair costs will be pretty close to what a new machine will cost. Again, it's laundry, not rocket science and it's absurd to be made to feel like a fool for doing laundry. I promise I'll do more research before I buy my next set.

We purchased a Maytag Centennial Commercial Technology washer and dryer combination about a year ago. The first couple of washes, it seemed fine. Then, it got louder and louder and shook like mad. Our first servicing, they replaced just about every moving component and the clutch among other things. We were told that due to our problems, the warranty would be extended to one year from the repair date. Now we're having problems again. And when we call, one of the first things out of the mouth of whoever takes our call is a solicitation for us to buy an extended warranty. It hasn't been right even after the first servicing. I think we're entitled to it being fixed correctly or replaced. They don't want to hear about replacing it.
This time they sent another repair person who said the motor needs to be replaced without even listening to it for more than a few minutes and not even long enough to hear it change cycles. When we called to request a replacement, they sent another person to evaluate it. He said that there is nothing wrong with the machine, that they are all loud and nothing more than a piece of crap since Whirlpool took over and started putting cheap parts in them. When he reviewed the parts list from the first repair, he stated that he didn't even recognize the part numbers for the parts installed the first time.
You can hear ours over our television set turned way up. When it changes cycles, it sounds like it's coming apart. We also have to keep our loads small because the ** thing is so unbalanced. It's almost a year since we bought it and only about 4 months since the first repair. Now we're almost backed a corner to buy an extended warranty, because they're dragging their feet getting us service this time.
The attitude of the customer support call center people is atrocious also. We went to the place where we bought it to complain, also. The local Lowe’s just said that the manufacturer would have to live up to the warranty. Overall, this is the worst appliance buying experience of my life. We'll never buy another appliance from Lowe’s and never buy anything manufactured with a Maytag name on it or related to Whirlpool.

Our Maytag Bravos Dryer model MGD6600TQ1 has caught on fire on three occasions now. Lint settles in the bottom of the dryer where a consumer does not have access and the heat of the drum and heater unit catches the lint on fire. In addition, the inside drum of the dryer has burned up as well. We have contacted repair only to have the techs pull the dryer apart, vacuum the burned lint and try to blame our dryer vent. Previous models of Maytag would turn off the heater component if a vent issue occurred.
Our clothes and bedding smell like a wet forest fire. We cannot leave the house while doing laundry in fear that the house will burn down. Tonight, my wife and I went to a laundrymat instead of doing laundry in the comfort of our own home with our worthless $1000 dryer due to the foul smoke smell it places on our clothes. My son has asthma and we are concerned this might trigger an attack.

I bought my Neptune washer front loader in 2001. It was the second generation of front loaders. I remember early on that water was coming out the front and the rubber ring needed replacement. I didn't have any problems until year nine, where this really loud sound was happening in the final spin cycle. The repair person said it was a pulley and the internal spin loader needed replacement, which total $280.00 plus two or three hours of labor. The total would be around $500.00. I am so mad that I spent $990.00 in 2001 and the washer only lasted less than nine years. It wouldn't make any sense to have this repaired. I will never by a Maytag or Whirlpool. I have to trash my washer after nine years. The repair costs would be around $500.00.

This is about the way overpriced Neptune washer that has been trouble since we brought it home. I had Maytag service it 4x and they would not even put laundry in the washer to "test" it. The washer shook like crazy and would finish the spin cycles, leaving clothes sopping wet. It happened on all cycles with all types of loads (almost worse with smaller loads for some reason). The clothes come out wrinkled & twisted; one shirt was even ripped, it was twisted so bad. Maytag never repaired the washer and I stopped dealing with them. The washer was purchased in 2005 and now in 2010, it has to be replaced. I will never buy Maytag again. You need to file a class action for Model No. FAV6800AWW.

The only complaint I have is that some water remains in the tub after the completion of the wash cycle. This has not caused any problems but I would like all the water to be drained from the tub at wash cycle completion. Does anyone know of a fix for this condition?

The washer had two rubber inserts and still would not drain water. I developed rashes from the laundry due to water and mold. My house almost caught on fire from the dryer. My laundry room flooded again yesterday and I had to have both the washer and dryer hauled off as junk. I bought them brand new in 2005.

I purchased this high-end machine in late 2006. Soon after purchase, I became aware of a problem with this model whereby water leakage could cause a fire. The Maytag remedy for this was not to cure the leak but to supply a GFI. I have operated this machine for 40 months (and I live alone so usage is not heavy). Last week, the house GFI (not that supplied by Maytag) started to trip. I called for service and was advised that water leakage had caused the motor controller to burn out and this item only supplied with the motor. Provisional estimates set repair at over $400 so I have scrapped this product. Supplying a GFI to remedy a known water leakage problem is not a cure. It possibly protects the company from the consequential damage of a fire but did nothing to correct the root cause.

We have been ripped off on Maytag washers (Neptune) 2 times. The first was the first dream set of Neptunes that rotted with mold--had two computer mother boards fry--$100 on repairs! There was problem after problem. Then, years later, they admitted to their moldy boot story so it had been replaced three times. We finally bought the new awesome Maytag Neptune 2 1/2 years ago--a washer and dryer set. They had given us a depreciated credit for the recalled mold monster.
Now, this incredible dream piece of ** sounds as if it is going to rip half of our house's foundation and crash it through the roof. It is enough to make you not want to leave the house. Come to find out it is our fault that this earth-shaking washer and dryer is going on two years and seven months after purchase. Just two adults living in this house! I have been told we used too much laundry soap. Get a clue! It is a washer so it needs soap. I am on a septic tank and I do not use too much. The repair is due to a bearing that soap bothers. Oh, boy. $1,600 for a washer that is allergic to soap--but it does not grow mold in large crops now! Hooray!

We have a Maytag Neptune washer. We have had it serviced several times. We can't use it to the fullest because the spring band that holds the rubber boot on will break. It moves without a full load and they tell me it's not off balance. I purchased this machine so I could wash large amounts of clothes at one time. I paid $967 for this. It is sad that I have these many problems. I purchased it on 5-30-05, back out on 8-26-08, 09-08-08, 09-13-08, 12-15-08 and 09-07-09. The Maytag washing machine I had purchased 34 years prior had very few maintenance issues, which is the reason I purchased another Maytag expecting the same reliability. Being a senior citizen on a fixed income and no COLA increase for the next 2 years by Social Security, this put me in a dire situation. I have concluded that Maytag now makes an inferior product and is lacking in quality control, therefore I will never purchase a Maytag appliance of any kind. I inherited both a Maytag Bravos Washer and Dryer from my father who passed away 18 months ago. He purchased both appliances brand new in October 2007, only 30 months ago. Approximately 9-12 months ago I called your company with a complaint that my clothes come out of the washer and/or dryer (not sure which one, if not both are the problem), severely wrinkled, especially pants. They come out of the wash tangled, almost in knots. Although I shake them out very well before drying, have reduced the size of my loads, made adjustments to water temperatures and remove them from the machines within an hour or two completion time, maximum, etc...Nothing has changed. I'm very particular with my laundry and also hate to have to iron so this issue is a major problem for me.
The rep I spoke to last year suggested I make the above adjustments to eliminate or at least improve this problem. I've tried it all to no avail. Today I spoke to Kyle and he agreed to send a trouble-shooter from A & E Appliance to my home tomorrow free of charge. I am hopeful that the machine can be repaired and if not, that Maytag will compensate me in some way, by supplying me with another appliance or via a monetary compensation.
The economic damage is simply, that my time is money and this issue costs me at least 2-3 hours of ironing each week to rectify and in many cases, even ironing can't get out the wrinkles, they are so deep and embedded in the fabric of especially jeans and cordoury's.
I've owned [Maytag] appliances in the past and they've lasted 1-2 decades with few repairs, if any. It seems as though I simply have a machine(s) that is malfunctional. I will contact you with the results of the trouble-shooter, whether the news is good or bad. I just wanted to send you this complaint so that you'd have it in writing in addition to my call to Kyle today.

I have complained about the product and asked if they could do something about maybe exchanging for a different machine. Each time they have apologized and just fixed it. I took out an extended warranty on it just to be safe. Good thing.
But now I am seeing that when that runs out, I will be screwed because I have more than used up my warranty's worth. All I can say is that I have never been so disappointed with a product as this one. The reason why I bought Maytag was because of the good name that comes from it. Needless to say I won't buy another one if this is what I get for trusting a good name. All I want is a simple washing machine that won't screw up almost every time I use it.
Do you think you could accommodate me on this. The store I bought it from has been very pleasant, they just said they won't replace it with a dependable one. I am hoping that I don't have to walk away from a brand I have always trusted. Please respond ASAP because right now I cannot use my machine once again.

For the last 6 months, the spin and drain cycles have not been working properly. I never know when I will have to run the rinse or spin cycle again. Now the machine is also making a loud racket when it spins.
I am disgusted with this washer which I paid $600 for. My previous washing machine was a Sears Kenmore which lasted 21 years and only had 2 minor repairs. I think a class action lawsuit would be a good idea since so many people are having similar problems with these Atlantis machines. Maytag knows that this is a defective product but it's obvious that they are not going to do anything about it.

On February 26, 2004, I purchased a Maytag Top Loading Neptune Washing Machine (Model Number FAV6800AWW, Serial # 10699216EA) at Sears in Hanover, PA. This machine was highly advertised and was supposed to save water and energy and be easier on the clothing. I absolutely loved this washing machine, until August of 2009. It would get stuck with 11 minutes left, not draining and spinning after the rinse cycle and with a DC code in the screen. A service technician came to check it out. He couldn’t find anything wrong, but by looking at things and jiggling something, it miraculously started running again. It worked fine again until November 19, 2009, when it did the same thing.
We called a new repair company hoping they would be able to find out what was wrong this time and fix it so it didn’t stop working again a few months later. The repairman hooked up an electronic device and the computer in the washing machine sent a code to the device. He went back to the shop to call Maytag Technical Support to find out what the code meant. Upon the advice of Maytag’s technicians, a control board Part # 25001217, a $211.01 part, (cost covered by Concession # **) was ordered and there was no charge to me for the part. The service man came back to replace the part, only to discover that they sent him a defective board. He said it looked to him by the way it was packaged that this was a refurbished part. Now keep in mind I am without a washing machine during all of this time!
I called Maytag customer support and demanded a new part. They sent a new board to my home address. I called to have the repairman come back out. He showed up with a board they sent them too. He installed the one they sent me and it didn’t work again. So he went ahead and installed the one he received. Now the machine was throwing a code that the lid was not shut and it was and he had no idea how to fix this so he returned to the repair shop (by the way this is a Maytag Authorized Repair Shop). They sent out another technician to look things over before calling Maytag. He made some calls from our home and then he returned to the repair shop to get prices for the parts.
He called me and gave me the list of parts that again he was told by Maytag technicians we needed to fix the machine, and when he called me and told me what we needed, I called Maytag with the part numbers and to give them payment information. The repairperson came out after I called and told them I received the parts and he installed them, only to find out the machine still did not work. He said it looked to him like the tub seal was leaking water and this caused the clutch and the control to go out on the bottom of the machine. He went back to the shop and called Maytag Tech Support.
On 12/17 he called to inform me I needed 1 Basket Part # 25001199 (covered, lifetime warranty), 1 Gear Case Part #25001089 (covered, 10-year warranty), 1 Clutch Part # 12002211 (not covered) $154.00, 2 O-Rings Part # 25001096 (not covered) $5/each Total $10.00, 1 Top Seal Part # 25001090 (not covered) $22.00. Shipping for these parts $80.00, Labor to install them $150.00 and Tax $24.97 Grand Total $441.09. So here I am having already spent $163.74 for Labor and $219.44 on parts, but I still don’t have a washing machine that works. Were the parts they suggested needed? They didn’t fix the problem.
I called Maytag 12/17 and they offered me 50% off the parts (which are non-refundable and may or may not fix the machine) or 15% off the purchase of a new washing machine. I paid $1,000.00 for what was supposed to be the top-of-the-line washing machine in 2004 and this is all they can offer me? The customer service representative at Maytag said, “The life expectancy on these washing machines is 10 years, so you’d probably be better off to just buy a new machine.” Okay, did she just hear what she said? My machine is 5 years old, not 10. I am getting half of the life out of a machine and you are offering me 15% off a new machine? Here’s an idea: send me half my money back $500.00, plus all of the money I’ve spent trying to get this washing machine fixed $383.18 and I’ll go get a new washer and it won’t be a Maytag or Whirlpool! I should be able to buy a nice machine for $883.18, which is what I believe they owe me!

We purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer in 2004. We have had nothing but problems starting in 2008. When you spend $1500-$2000 on a washer and dryer they should last longer than 4 years. We have contacted Maytag starting in 2008 and was told that when our machines were made, Maytag used Kingston parts to be more cost effective.
Maytag later figured out the parts were poorly made causing many problems with the machines. We called for the 7th time today and was told there was nothing we can do. I am so frustrated that we spent so much 6 years ago and the washer and dryer do not work fully. I didn't expect them to give us a new washer or dryer. I just expected Maytag to fix the machine to last longer then 6 years.

The clothes are barely covered with little room to move. The rinse cycle is the same, not enough water, and there’s no way to manually add more. I’m very disappointed with the automatic fill feature.

I bought a Neptune Maytag top of the line washer. It always had water inside. It was weird. It worked okay for the first year but then started making noise on the spin cycle. I had a repairman out and he said the drum bearing was going out and would be at least $700.00 to fix! This is at 1 year after purchase. He said his advice would be just to use it until it breaks down. So, for the next 4 years, it was a torture but it still worked though it sounded like a freight train going through our house! So loud that you could hear it from the street with the house closed up! What a piece of junk! Now, I found out that there was a lawsuit. Maytag is a third world company now with no customer support! The only steam from my Bravios MGDB700VQ0 is coming from my ears. Today marks the third time this dryer stopped producing heat. Maytag used to mean quality. Now it is just a stock ticker to me whose future doesn't look to bright! That poor lonely Maytag man is going to get overtime on this product! We are on a first name basis. The first time Maytag sent A&E (Sears) to my house, the technician was learning about these dryers as he was taking mine apart. Needless to say, there were 2 weeks glue and a rattle when they were done.
The second company had never seen one of these either. Their marketing department sends me an offer for warranty at least once a week. If they spent the money they use for marketing on R&D I would not be writing this note. I am hoping to not have this dryer long enough that it will need a warranty. Does it save money? No, I have to keep going to the laundromat to dry clothes. The dryer now rattles and makes a clumping noise. Screws are missing (not replaced). Dryer vent was not reattached and it blew off. A second service man found missing screws inside the unit. This could have led to high levels of CO in my house (Gas Dryer), not to mention the fire hazard as a result.

My washer was making a terrible noise during the spin cycle -- I had a certified Maytag repairman out to look at my machine. He said it was because I had not used the HE soap exclusively, it had ruined my washer (the suds gets into the motor housing and ruins it). Cost to fix was $650 at least. I purchased Maytag Legacy series washer 2005 from Home Depot. The washer tub seal begins to fail 1 1/2 years later. The washer makes very loud grinding sound as bearings begin to fail. The tub begins leaking water on the floor. I called Maytag. They stated that the 1 year warranty on the moving parts has expired. Maytag stated that this is a common problem in the Legacy washers (if you read the other consumer complaints on this site, you will see this issue discussed multiple times). Maytag offered no remedy to fix or replace the defective washer. There was water damage on the wash-room floor. I had to purchase another washer within a very short span of time.
As many consumers on this site have expressed, a 20-year-old Maytag is a fine piece of machinery. It can very well last a lifetime. But because of the reliability of these older Maytag washers/dryers, Maytag could not sell the volume needed for increased profitability - as a Maytag washer/dryer set did indeed last a very long time with no need for replacement. Also, the cost to produce these quality machines increased above consumer tolerable price points. The result was that Maytag began producing poorly engineered and constructed machines with a short life span. This worked for a short time, but then most consumers (except a few like me) became aware of the decline of Maytag and bought other brands. Maytag went bankrupt. Whirlpool bought them. It doesn't appear that Whirlpool has brought back the Maytag of old now, does it?

We had it installed at a cost by Home Depot. This was a little more than a year ago it was installed. Two months ago, it began making strange noises and the drain pan started filling with water. It is located on our second story of our home.
This week, we had a Maytag repairman come out at a $70 fee. He told us Home Depot installed the washer with zip ties still attached to the drum. He removed those and it still makes noise. He also said that Maytag discontinued this model and that we should run it with out the back on it because they tend to overheat! No explanation for the water in the drain pan either. So far nothing has been done by Maytag or Home Depot. This set is only 13 months old and we paid $800 just for the washer! Story to be continued.

This complaint is concerning Maytag Neptune washers. I have sent numerous emails to Maytag but get no response until I just happened to come upon this website. We made a large purchase four (4) years ago; it consisted of both the Maytag Neptune washer and dryer and a large 25 cu ft side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. My dryer works fine. The fridge works so-so. It is difficult to keep the temperature adjusted in the crisper drawers. The vegetables freeze a lot and (of course) have to then be thrown out. If I can keep the veggies from freezing, then the meat spoils in the meat drawer.
All that being said is mild compared to what I think of the clothes washer. I hate it with a passion. The engineers who designed it and also the team who accepted/approved the design to be manufactured and sold to the public all should be demoted. Ours is a home that cannot have mold or strange odors in it due to allergy related complications. There is constant mold growing in that washer. Water that doesn't drain from the door-round because it has no place to go and also around the soap/softener dispenser.
The dispenser has to be taken out constantly and scrubbed & bleached to try to keep the mold as minimal as possible. The softener dispenser is just simply a very bad design and is never completely emptied and so therefore there is a thick gooey buildup in the area. Once again, you have to keep it cleaned and scrubbed constantly. I never thought I would have to spend as much time cleaning & bleaching the washer as I do our clothes. The wrap-up is I hate it totally and I will never buy another Maytag product.

Two years ago we purchased the Maytag Bravos washer dryer combo at Home Depot. We paid over $2000.00. We thought we were upgrading our wash and dryer and getting rid of the inefficient Frigidaire 15-year old pair. (Coincidently we gave that away, and it’s still working!) However, the washer does stop every tenth load or so due to bunching of the clothes, causing it to be unbalanced. Now it has just stopped altogether, no more spin cycle. The service company we had out told us that it is $375.00 to replace the motor control board. It reads on the display F50 for a fault code.
We have a service repair manual from the internet instructing us how to test the components of the washer, which clearly states "that if it is not the board to continue replacing other parts until the unit works." Wow, it does not take a genius to figure this out but it does take lots of cash! Are there others with this same sort of problem? Someone told me of a recall, but all I found is the Neptune recall. Maytag told me there was only one year warranty. Hmm, you know the phrase hindsight is 20/20? Well, there would have been an extended warranty purchased. We thought we were making an educated purchase when we bought a Maytag Neptune TL FAV6800AWW washing machine on September 11, 2004 for $1000. We looked and shopped around and bought what we considered the biggest and best that we could afford at the time. We have put up with a lot from this washer--moldy smelling clothes; knotted clothes; clothes put into the washer with food crusted to it, and after it was washed, the food was still there; and we even put up with clothes coming out with dry spots on them. But this takes the cake.
Over the course of the last week, it has flooded our laundry room twice (and you can only imagine the smell of my baseboards now) and locked up several times giving me the code nF and Lr. I cannot believe that our washer only lasted six years for the price we paid for it. My parents still have the Whirlpool washer they were given (used) when they were married 26 years ago. Some of the items needing repaired are still under partial warranty, but the bigger things are not, not to mention labor.

I have owned my Maytag washing machine for just over 2 years. At 1 year and 11 months, the machine started making grinding noises then smelled funny and stopped agitating or spinning. I had previously owned a Maytag washer for about 12 years, which worked like a champ washing clothes for more people than are in our household now. When I called the customer service number in November 2009 to get help from Maytag, the person I spoke with was not discourteous but certainly didn't care at all about helping me. Besides the washing machine, I had bought a Maytag stove, dishwasher and refrigerator. All because of the Maytag name.
The information told to me was that since I did not have an extended service warranty, I was out of luck. When I told the person I had also bought all the other appliances too and why she went and asked someone, she then came back and said that Maytag would cover half the cost of the part. Since I was told that it was highly likely that it was the motor that had failed, I did not accept that offer as it would still involved more of an expense than I felt was fair.
I spent what was a lot of money for me on that washer and this situation was totally unexpected. I expected Maytag to stand behind their product. Ironically, my son then gave me an older model Maytag washer he was upgrading from to use and that one just flooded our home. Buying another washing machine was not an expected expense and it is affecting me economically.

I was one of the unfortunate many who purchased the Maytag Neptune washer and dryer, thinking I was making a wise purchase by buying a top of the line set. The marketing of Maytag was genius (i.e. hook the unsuspecting consumer into buying a piece of garbage under the illusion of presenting Maytag as a provider of excellent quality, being long lasting with little or no repairs). Well I have been saddled with the Neptune front load washer since 12/29/2003 and there isn't a day that goes by that I look at it and hate the ** machine. We were lucky enough to get a new boot for the washer as part of the class action settlement. Big freaking deal.
Here I am, 6+ years later, washing my clothes twice - the second time to remove the mildew originating from the washer from my clothes and the second time did not remove it all. I would love to go out today to purchase a cheap replacement, but who can afford it in these unsettling times? I realize there are far greater issues that other folks are dealing with than a design-flawed front load washer. However, combine that with the other stresses of these times and it can get pretty discouraging, especially when you are dealing with a large corporation and you are the little guy. It is useless.
Rest assured I will never ever purchase another Maytag product. More importantly, I will always voice this opinion when I hear of a friend or acquaintance in the market for a washer/dryer. If this design debacle hasn't had Maytag take a serious hit to their bottom line, I hope it does soon. No consumer deserves this raw deal. We've been royally screwed and there isn't a darn thing we can do about it, but to dig deep into our already shallow pockets and purchase a non-Maytag replacement.

They claimed to know nothing about any manufacturing problems with these drums.
Based on what I've found out about the number of drums with the same problem, I'm not prepared to spend multiple hundreds of dollars repairing it with something that again may only last a couple of years. They still claim on their website to stand behind their appliances with a strong warranty, but it's only 1 year on P&L. I'm faced with finding a way to dispose of this faulty appliance and replace it with something that will hopefully be more reliable than this. Forget about the bleach and softener dispensers, they have been replaced and still don't work. I don't even bother using it anymore. Our biggest and last complaint is that the clutch and bolt underneath the drum is all rusted out and the repairman, after three visits, determined that it would be too much money to fix. Why do we have to pay big bucks for a machine that didn't last five years? What is happening to our country and our businesses? So tonight, we are going to purchase a bisque colored GE washer for $399 with no frills and trying to find the color bisque is hard enough to find a matching color to the dryer which thankfully has had not one issue.

We had bought the Maytag Neptune TL washer and matching dryer about 5 years ago. Our house has always smelled of mold on the lower floor and I never dreamed it was the washer. We have had other plumbing issues so I always blamed it on that.
My Neptune broke down for the third time just before Christmas and the first repair guy refused to come over the phone solely based on the name Neptune. The second guy came in and took one look at it and left, saying that he did not work on that model - even though I had told the company what model I had before he came.
The third guy said it needed a plastic bracket and a gasket but it would have to be removed from my home, repaired in the shop and returned. His estimate for the repair was $700. He told me to get rid of it and buy a basic Kenmore, no computers - dial only. And that is what I did. It cost $485, delivered and set up and now, my house no longer smells of mold! I have a no frills washer that works.
Imagine that! The washer has flooded my first floor and carpet area numerous times, it has caused me to haul 15+ loads at a time to the laundry mat and God only knows what kind of damage is caused by breathing in mold all these years. I wish I know about the class action lawsuit. They should have paid for a new washer for every single person that ever purchased a Neptune. I will never buy anything "Maytag" ever again.

I purchased one of the first Maytag Neptunes model #MAH3000AWW 12 years ago. I have been fighting with Maytag on this machine for the last 10-12 years. It still has an odor and my white clothes has little black spots on it when I am finished washing the clothes. This has always been the case. I shake my clothes out and hang it up to dry or put it in the dryer. I can't afford to continue buying new machines every year. The machine now just stops and will not go through the rinse cycle.
I can't even count the times I have had a repair man here to fix this damn machine. The control panel also had to be replaced. My kids have said "Mom, just buy a new machine", but I paid over $1,000 for this machine and that is the most I have ever paid for a washing machine. The place where you add the soap, bleach and softener is cracked again. I already had it replaced. I take pride in the clothes that I wash. I like my clothes to be clean. I also do not have my children at home anymore, so none of this stuff can be blamed on mishandling of the machine.
These first Neptune Machines should have been recalled from the very beginning. I read other comments regarding this machine and we are all saying the same thing. Shame on you Maytag for *** over the people. I did receive a check for $240.94 for the claim settlement. This hardly covers the grief and money I have put into this machine. The check is now expired. What can I purchase for this amount?
The sad thing is I went to the same store tonight and purchased a new machine; the only ones left are Maytag. The other brands they had are all sold. So help me God if there is anything wrong with this new machine. I will come after your company full speed ahead. I see there are lots of recalls for your products. What is the matter with you guys? Do you have no conscience? You better back your products or your company will go out of business.

This washer was returned to Lowe's by the original owner. Tag on washer read "will only spin, repaired." The salesman assured me that the washer carried the one-year warranty on major parts. I purchased the washer on November 11, 2009. It stopped working on January 07, 2010. Again, it will only spin. When I contacted repair service, I was told, immediately on the phone, that the water pressure switch was the problem. The repairman told me the water switches are bad on many of this type machine. I would like to know if there is a recall because of this. I am so dissatisfied with this product. Even if it worked the way it should, the features are misleading and useless. It has a choice of heavy duty, normal, casual or delicate but it only has 2 agitator speeds. It requires you to tell the machine whether or not you've added fabric softener with every load. It has a choice of 3 soil levels which does not affect the agitator speed. It has a choice of 6 water temperatures.
The worst feature is the "automatic water level". It senses the size of the load and fills the washer accordingly. If you open the lid for any reason during the cycle, it automatically fills to capacity before continuing to agitate. For instance: if I need to add one item to the load, it automatically fills to capacity which is a waste of water. I'm hoping there is a recall on this washer so I can get rid of it without a loss. I have bought Maytag before and had good service. I even owned more than one of the old wringer washers in which the body would rust before it had any mechanical problems. I realize this is long but I am so dissatisfied with this washer. This caused waste of water resulting in higher water bill.

After not hearing from Maytag on the reimbursement for the repair, I called them and they said that I did not send in the receipt by a certain date and therefore they would not honor the reimbursement. They also told me they would not reimburse me for the certificate on the new Maytag appliance I had bought. So I was out all of this money. It really bites. I told the repairman not to repair it as I was going to call Maytag and get a new one, as this was unacceptable to me. After all, I was brought up being brainwashed by all those Maytag repairman commercials. I was also a prior avionics corrosion control expert in the military and I knew that this corrosion had not developed over the 6 months I had owned the washer.
I contacted Maytag, explained my problem, and get this, the customer service lady tells me that she is over 60 years old and the repairman can come back out and repair it but I was in no way shape or form getting a new washer. I called the local Maytag retailer and they came out, looked at it, and got me a new washer because they could not believe it either. Occasionally, the water wouldn't drain from the washer, and now it happens every 5 or 6 loads. I just have to turn it back to the spin cycle and it takes care of the issue, but it's an inconvenience. My dryer's first issue was that one of the "paddles" came out, screws and all. Eventually, all of them have spontaneously come out. I just feel like for purchasing a Maytag, it is poor quality. My parents had their Maytag for 20+years. I thought a washer/dryer should last longer than 7 years for the amount of money that was spent on it.

I purchased a Maytag washing machine on 12/28/01 for $999 (Model: MAH5500BWW). On 11/16/07 (six years), I had to have the lid replaced at a cost of $240 because the lid was rusted and going into the machine and on any clothing in the machine. The machine has a 10-year warranty on the lid. But, of course, I had to pay for the labor. Well, two years later (12/09), the lid needs to be replaced once again. It is rusted out the same way it was two years earlier. (I have pictures).
I feel that this is a very poor design and that Maytag should be paying the cost of the labor to replace it. I received the general email from Maytag that, "it's not their problem." I know of others that have or had the same machine and they also had the same problem. One of them just got rid of the machine and the other got her lid replaced at no charge to her. I feel that Maytag is not standing up for their products.
I now need to replace my machine and dryer (it's a pair that sits at the back of my kitchen so I have to replace both). I will not be looking at Maytag or Whirlpool for replacements. And in the future, no Maytag or Whirlpool for other appliances that will need to be replaced. My refrigerator and cook top are both Maytag, and I will find a different manufacturer to replace them.
After the first lid was replaced within two months, the motor went out of the machine. They say it has nothing to do with each other but we are not convinced of that. So to me, this machine is a money pit and I am not putting any more into it. If they will replace it at no charge to me, then do it. My clothing and whatever else is being washed, is getting rust on them. So I don't want to have to replace all our clothing and everything else that is being washed in that machine. I need to replace it soon because I am not putting any more hard-earned money into the pit.

I informed her that I was unemployed, and if Maytag was willing to pay, I would gladly stay at home and wait. She did offer to give a discount on parts, for those "approved personnel". I again reminded her that I wasn't working and when I purchased their washing machine, it was based on their solid reputation and not for the machine to fall apart. In the fall of 2005, we were given the gift of a new washer/dryer and we chose the Maytag Neptune LED TL washer and Maytag Neptune dryer. About a month ago I put a load of wash on before going to bed. Sometime before falling asleep, I heard the beep letting me know the wash was finished. That must have woken my husband up, so while getting himself something to drink he started asking why there was water in the floor. After getting up to help investigate, we found that the washing machine had flooded the laundry room, pantry, and was coming into the kitchen/dining area. The next day and after all flood waters were cleaned, I decided to try another load watching for any reason the machine would have flooded the house.
Not seeing any problems, I continued to use this washer until last week. The machine would get to the last 12 minutes of the load and then stop with the error message “DC” for an unbalanced load. I continued to change the clothing around and removing clothes, but the message continued to come back. Finally, today, we had a local repairman come to the house. He told me that it was a problem with one of the circuit boards. We could replace the boards until we found the problem at a cost of $200.00 a piece or we could just buy two washers for the price it would take to fix it. He told me that he had been to a house yesterday where he had to fix a transmission on one. He suggested that we put it on the curb so the scrap man could come by and pick it up. We bought this washing machine for $999.00 in late 2005. Since the purchase of this machine, we have had numerous problems - expensive problems. It does not balance and adjusting it or otherwise does no good. It is very noisy, even after moving the load around. The tiny door button - little black one - broke off a year into the washer. It costs $99 to replace the large part for that little button. The clothes started smelling like mildew no matter how quickly you got to them. If I washed them while sleeping and left them overnight and hang it up, it’s mildew stinky. A year into it, the bleach/fabric softener compartment stopped working. I still cannot get it to function. Oh, and as far as getting anything clean, it stinks at it.
About two years into this expensive purchase, it started a slow, steady drip from the water entrance into the clothes washtub. It dripped and dripped. If we didn’t use the washer for a couple of days, the tub would fill in the bottom with water and we would have to cycle it out. That turned into filling in a day and has grown into a bigger mess. It has grown to a full outpouring of water that will not stop ever, unless we cut the water supply to the washing machine and finish the cycle. The tub fills completely and starts leaking out the door on the bottom. Yeah, I know. We have to call a repairman and spend tons of money on a machine we spent tons of money on. No. We will not be buying another Maytag to use for anything - ever. We hate this machine and we don’t have the money to call a repair man at $80 an hour to tell us to spend $300 to fix a $1000 machine. I bought my Maytag Washer & Dryer from Home Depot mid-2004, thinking they would last indefinitely, based on a believed (now understood to be only a marketed) reputation of this brand name. Just like the complaints that I now read here, my Maytag Legacy series washer (Model SAV515DAWW) started making a noise like a jet engine. Soon after, it began leaking all over my floor when it went into the spin cycle.
I had someone look at it for me and, upon investigation, found that it was leaking slowly from the bottom seal on the drum, which was especially evident when the washer was on the spin cycle. I was researching whether it was economical to fix it. As it costs around $100 just for the first 15 minutes of a service call, and based on what I read here, I believe it's pointless to repair a machine that is flawed in design, so I will be forced to buy a new washer.
If people with Maytag Legacy series models keep completing complaint forms on this same issue, perhaps there will be numbers large enough to warrant Maytag to do the right thing and compensate its customers.
Right now, I will never buy Maytag, or any expensive appliance again for that matter, without researching it first.
Unfortunately, I'm one of many educators suffering economic hardship due to budget cuts, so replacing my washer is an expense I'd rather not have right now. Any bright, forward-thinking company might spot that Americans, and perhaps citizens of other countries too, are making a cultural shift. Most of us are having epiphanies about our past practices of spending, leading us to become more frugal and conscious of our energy and consumption footprint on this earth.
Why are products not made to last anymore (I've had similar problems with vacuum cleaners and microwave ovens too.)? If you ask me, America could help dig itself out of this depression if it went back to ethically manufacturing goods that are durable, and earth-friendly too, thus building long term customer-loyalty that weathers financial cycles which are driven by throw-away-and-replace consumerism and must-have-now policies.
Imagine how large the appliance graveyard is that we leave our children - it's littered with Maytag washers, containing non-recycled materials that do not break down or are decaying into our soil and water table. Come on. Wake up, America, and think!

The cycles on the dryer do not count correctly and the dryer makes a loud rattling noise. I can run the dryer on the normal cycle which automatically sets at about 44 minutes. Come back an hour later, the dryer is still running and the timed cycle now reads 1 hour and 39 minutes left to dry. When I stop the continued cycle, the clothes are hot to the touch. I need to wait for them to cool down before folding them. This last heating element that was replaced had burnt marks in the element. Typically, the technicians leave the old parts behind but they took this one with them. When the technician took the element out, a piece was broken which he claims was preventing the element from heating completely. I then asked why the burnt mark on the element of which he couldn't explain but he did say he could put the element back into the dryer and let me continue to use the dryer until the new part came which would be a week.
I told him no because I felt it was a safety hazard. In addition to the timer not counting correctly and drying cycle running continuously until prompted to stop manually by me, the dryer walls on the outside of the dryer are hot to the touch. It is now five days with a new element in and the problem has occurred all over again. The product is still under warranty. When I mentioned to the technician the possibility of having a defective dryer since they are replacing the element so many times, he said it more than likely won't happen and then offered to sell me an extended warranty. If this were not covered under warranty still, I would be paying enormous amounts of money for technician fees and labor costs. It worked fine for about 7-8 months and it quit again doing the same thing.
I called Badcock again and they said that A&E should fix this for nothing; they would talk with someone about it. They told me to call A&E again, which I did, and they said it was only warranted for 90 days. They did not tell me this at the time they came out and fixed it. I asked them about signing and getting a paper where they fixed it but the service man would not give me one. So I really do not know if he put a new motor and timer in or not. Recently, I also noticed a grey build up (possibly mold) under both rotators. Many garments were ruined due to rust stains. I am stressed and concerned about health issues due to mold.

We purchased a Maytag Neptune TL washer and dryer set on March 18, 2004. The washer Model # FAV6800AWW has had uncontrollable mold since the first week we owned it. We purchased it from Home Depot and bought the extended 5 year warranty which has expired. The washer won't spin now because of code # DC (out of balance). I looked on the Web and saw a class action suit settlement for Maytag Neptune washer purchases made from April 1, 1997 to August 9, 2004. We sent our registration in upon purchase and were never notified. I contacted Maytag customer service and after they denied any settlement, they sheepishly told me it was for the front load Neptune only, not for our top load. Do we have any recourse?

I bought a Neptune washer in 2002 or 2003. I have been dealing with a smelly and moldy gasket for years. I thought it was something I was doing wrong or because my state has high humidity. Someone else didn't scrub out the gasket a few days ago and it's bad now. I thought I'd see if I could get a replacement gasket. I googled Maytag Neptune and found out there was a lawsuit years ago and and the deadline to send in the paperwork was about 5 years ago. I was never notified even though my address is still the same. I wish I could have gotten in on the lawsuit, but not to get a new washer, just a gasket.
So far, except for the mold and part of minute remaining display, I haven't had any problems (knock on wood). In fact, it cleans better than any washer I've ever seen. I'm kind of afraid to say anything because it does work so well. I'm afraid that if someone comes out to repair, they might find other things and it will never clean as well as it does now.

I have been married 31 years and have only had 2 washers and dryers. First washer we bought used from some friends was Kenmore from Sears and was 6 years old when we bought it. We had it for over 17 years! Can you image that happening today. No. The washer actually cleaned the clothes, unlike the new Bravos (top of the line) most expensive one I could buy that doesn't clean anything. We used the same detergent and washed a pair of my granddaughter's pants that had been washed at least 6 or more times in my washer. None of the stains are coming out.
One time in my father-in-law's Bosch washer, the stain is out using the same detergent we use in mine. None of the laundry gets clean. All of the stains are still on it when it comes out. I thought maybe it was just me, until we washed at my father-in-law's. Then the top of the line Bravo's dryer with steam is supposed to help with wrinkles and smell. Haha. That is a joke too. I am glad that I tried to help a USA company stay in business, and they don't even care when I call in to complain. The warranty is only if a part is broken. What a joke. They don't stand behind anything they make.
The stove is Maytag double oven. It's a piece of garbage like the other two products I bought from them, and they don't care either. I spend good money on these appliances instead of buying foreign. What can I do? The representative said the warranty is legally binding to only fix what is broken. It obviously doesn't matter to them that all the advertising they are doing is false. I would love a washer that actually cleaned the clothes. I would never recommend these to anyone. I would never buy from them again. Very disappointed!

When I purchase the machine, I was sure I was upgrading and wouldn't have any problems since your repairmen said they are the loneliest repairmen. I was told that the caliber seal and bearing was messed up because the water had been running on the bearing for some time and that it looked like it could have come from the factory that way. In 2000, we purchased the Maytag Neptune washer (Model # MAH4000AWW). We had continuous problems with it. In 2006, shortly after the warranty expired, the repairman from Karl's Appliance encouraged us to purchase a new machine because he felt that we would continue to have problems with the machine and would end up "putting a lot of money into it!" We purchased another Maytag Neptune and have had nothing but problems with it since day one! It is still under warranty, but is not always covered, as there have been a few times that the repairman tells us something like "Oh, well, I found a coin in the machine, so you're going to have to pay for this visit." Yeah, like a coin can fit through a little 1/8 inch hole - the only access to the inside of the machine.
My questions and concerns are: We were never informed by Karl's Appliance, Maytag, or anyone else that there was a class action lawsuit against Maytag in 2004 against Model # MAH4000AWW for failure to operate properly, and Maytag lost the lawsuit! What can I, as a consumer, do about this as I was never informed of the class action lawsuit? Also, as we have continued to have nothing but continued problems with the second Maytag Neptune front load washer, is there anything that can be done about that? Thank you for your time.

I purchased a Maytag Neptune TL (Top Loading) washer about 3 to 4 years ago. It worked fairly well for about 9 months except for getting out-of-balance alarms occasionally. After 9 months, the O-o-B alarms happened with every load. At about 12 minutes left, it would alarm out and I would find all the clothes knotted in a ball that would roll to one side when it began to spin.
I had 3 different repairmen to try to fix it. They replaced the clutch and the electronic circuit board, but nothing helped. Its repair cycle took until after the warranty had expired. Then, Maytag wanted me to pay for the parts that were replaced. It was a struggle to get them to admit that the problem started while the washer was under warranty.
After experimentation and suggestions from the repairmen, I found that the only way to get it to complete a full load was to completely load the machine to the top. Even to the point of having to pack the clothes tight in the washer until I can almost not close the door. There is absolutely no way to wash a small or even half load. The 2 rotating discs roll the clothes into a tangled ball that spins to one side and causes the out-of-balance alarm. It is necessary to put so many clothes in the washer that the ball completely fills it and can't roll to the side.
The design concept for the machine is completely flawed. Maytag should replace all these washers with something that works. I will never buy another Maytag product. It's the worst appliance I have ever owned.

Of course, we had the normal mildew problems with the washer until it quit in July 2005. When we called out a service rep, he told us it would cost more to repair than it was worth. I paid $999.00 for it. I contacted Maytag and was told they had a lot of problems with the frontloader and if I purchased a Neptune toploader, they would refund me $300. So I went out in good faith on 7/19/2005, bought the Neptune top loader (Model #FAV6800AWW, Serial #13512565EV) and again paid $999.00 for it. I sent all the paperwork in as requested, and a few months later, they regretted to inform me that I didn't qualify for the rebate. Last week, my second Maytag Neptune quit. The first one lasted 6 years; the second only 4 years. Before it quit, it was doing the same thing all the other people have had problems with. It would go to 12 min. left and give an off balance code. The only way I could get it to finish the load was to basically overload it, and then if I was lucky, it might finish. I owned a Maytag washer for almost 20 years, and I loved it (1982-2001). When it was time to purchase a new washer, we purchased a Whirlpool since we knew Whirlpool had purchased Maytag. That washer only lasted 8 years. In June, we needed a new washer and dryer and decided to go with the Bravo series since we didn't have room for front loading machines, but we're anxious to use that new technology. Big mistake! The Bravo washer does not get the clothes clean, and it's impossible to set some of the water temps on certain cycles - such as soak. Simple stains that should come out by merely washing have been set into fabrics because of this washer. My husband got dirt on his pants - simple dirt - not red clay or anything that usually causes major staining. The Bravo washer didn't get it out. Simple ink from a Bic pen didn't come out until I took a brush to my son's shorts. I've never had this problem with a washer before. And I have to wash everything on the Hand Wash cycle in order to keep the clothes from getting so twisted. The clothes also look very worn which I've been told is from all the twisting. After almost 20 fantastic years with Maytag, and then using a Whirlpool, I was really looking forward to getting back to a Maytag again. I am incredibly disappointed with the Maytag Bravo washer.

In April 2005, we purchased the Neptune top loader washer and dryer at a local Home Depot store. Exactly 3 months after this purchase, we encounter our first problem with the washer locking sensor. Initially, we contacted Home Depot about the problem. They informed us that the problem was a manufacturing problem and therefore, we needed to contact Maytag directly. We then contacted Maytag and reported the problem and were told that we would need to contact one of their technicians to have the problem fixed. Upon diagnosing, the technician determined that the washer computer board needed to be replaced.
A couple of months after the replacement of the washer computer board, we again experienced another problem. By this time, we went back to Home Depot and told them that we wanted to return the washer. Home Depot told us that they couldn't take the product back because it was a manufacturing problem and that we needed to contact Maytag. Maytag refused to take the product back and informed us that they don't take products back but would have their technician fix the problem again. Needless to say, Maytag is not a consumer friendly company.
Basically, we got stuck with a defective product. We were given the runaround and being bounced from one department to another and being put on hold for long periods of time with no resolution. It has now been 4 years since we purchased the washer. The computer board to the washer has been changed 3 times since then and the locking mechanism sensor has been repaired 3 times. Every year during these 4 years, we have had to contact Maytag for repairs on this washer. Every year since we bought the washer, we have purchased an extended warranty. Unfortunately, we did not renew our extended warranty on time for this year, 2009. By the time we were able to purchase the extended warranty on September 1st, my old warranty had expired.
On September 21st, we contacted Maytag for service on the washer again. I was told that since my old warranty had expired before I renewed it, that there was a 60 day waiting period before my new contract would be effective on October 31, 2009. I was also informed that since this is a pre-existing problem, it would not be covered even when my extended warranty became effective. I explained to Maytag that this problem was the same problem that I have been having since I purchased the washer in 2005. I then was transferred to a supervisor in the Service Department. After explaining the situation to her, she suggested that since this was a manufacturing and recurrent problem, that I should speak to the Manufacturing Department to see if they would take the product back.
I informed her that I didn't see how that would be possible since I had already tried doing that 3 months after I purchased the product and Maytag didn't take it then. She gave me their phone number and suggested that at least I give it a try and that it wouldn't hurt to ask. I then contacted the Manufacturing Department to no avail. I was informed that they would only fix the product and not take it back. And basically told me that since I let the warranty lapse between the renewal of the new contract, that I would be responsible for fixing the washer on my own, and that I would need to submit proof showing that the problem was fixed. Needless to say, I contacted a Maytag technician to come to my house and diagnose the problem. It turns out that the computer board has to be replaced once again.
He proceeded to inform us that they have been having a lot of problems with the Neptune washer computer boards. He also informed us that it would cost us $461.00 to replace the computer and that he would guarantee the computer for only 3 months. He said that they used to guarantee it for 1 year but it was changed to only 3 months. Well now, we are stuck with a broken washer that keeps breaking down every year. Why isn't there a lemon law to protect consumers from companies like Maytag? There are a lot of complaints against Maytag and yet they fail to compensate their customers. As my husband and I are the only people in our home, I only do laundry for the two of us. I have taken very good care of this set; they still look showroom new. We chose Maytag with the belief that this would last through our retirement years. Now we are told that the repair will be well over $500.00, because the tool the repairman had to buy for this repair is around $1,000.00. I think if this was a known problem that Maytag should have had a recall and fix this with no charge to the consumer.
Now we are going into retirement with a broken washer that we expected to last the rest of our lives. If I would have known that Maytag was not the quality that it used to be, I would have chosen another brand. We now need to replace the bearings and do not have the money to do so. I am on S.S. disability and my husband has just applied for S.S. last month. We don't have that kind of money to pay for the repairs. That shouldn’t be needed in the first place.

We purchased a Maytag Front Neptune and dryer in December of 2000; didn’t have any problems until 2007. That’s when we had to have the circuit (mother) board replaced at a cost of just under $300. Now in June of 2009, the machine would not spin. We had Sears come in and they replaced the timer. When doing so, the serviceman then tested it and popped the breaker. He then said that we needed a new starter and another piece that goes with it. We waited for over a month and were finally told they (Sears) could not find the part anywhere to fix the unit. We could not wait any longer so we went out and bought another washer as the cost of going to the laundry mat was getting expensive. To date we have a Neptune sitting in the garage with a broken start button. It’s hard to believe that a machine that is 8 years old is obsolete for parts. It makes me feel that someone is trying to hide something from the public on these units.

I bought a Maytag washing machine 2 years ago and have had nothing but the same problems everyone else is having with it. It’s a Maytag Neptune Front-Load machine and I just paid $400.00 to have it repaired because they put faulty parts in them which required me to have to replace a bunch of other parts because they all needed to match and work together in order to operate properly. My warranty says the motor is covered for 5 years and that was what went wrong but because the harness and controls only go with the new style replacement motor, I had to by all of that also. It was their mistake by making the units faulty in the first place and I am so disappointed with my original purchase. Consequences: $400.00 when I already paid $1,700.00 for the washer and dryer expecting it to last more than 2 years.

I bought my Maytag Neptune frontload washing machine 3 years ago. For the last 6 months, every load I wash smells musty and I have to wash them again to try to get rid of the smell.
I was not aware of any class action lawsuit because of a mold problem when I bought my washer. Had I known about it, I wouldn't have wasted $600 on this washing machine. I did buy it at a scratch and dent sale, so I didn't pay full price like other people. I will now have to buy a new washer, so my family and I will have clean, nice-smelling clothes to wear. I should not have to buy a new washing machine after only 3 years due to a problem I was not aware of.
Save your money and do not buy a Maytag Neptune frontload washing machine, unless you want many headaches and clothes that smell horrible after you wash them. I will now be going out to spend money I do not have right now to buy another brand of washing machine. I really wish I would have found these complaints before I bought my expensive and smelly mistake.

I purchased a new washer and dryer in 2000. I was sent an extended warranty by Accent Amana. I paid and renewed these contracts. My current contract is good until 12-26-2010. Once again the dryer doesn't work. I called to set the appointment for repair and I was told that they already have invested more in the dryer than what I paid for the dryer, and will not service it or replace it. What the hell kind of warranty is this? As long as you don't use and they make money, that's fine. I bought it for protection against a poor product. These things are all scams. They take your money and refuse to live up to their end of the bargain. If the product is sub par, it should have been replaced.
They claim that they are not the manufacturer, but they send all the stuff with Amana name slapped all over it leading you to believe you are purchasing an extended warranty from the manufacturer. This is **. They will not fix the machine or give me my money back. What a scam this joint is and I have no idea if Amana is aware of them using their name. What can I do? I purchased a Maytag Legacy Series washer in late July 2008 from Home Depot. For the last few weeks, the washer has been making a loud, metallic banging sound during the wash, rinse, and spin cycles. To rule out the possibility of unbalanced loads, I ran the washer without any laundry items in the tub. The machine was also checked for level. I called Maytag's 800 number and was told that this was an unusual complaint and that there was no history of this noise being a widespread problem. The representative then informed me that Maytag may cover the cost of any defective parts, since the washer was so recently out of warranty, but any labor costs would not be covered. I thought perhaps that I was just unfortunate with this particular washer, then I came upon this website. This noisy operation must be well known to Maytag and they refuse to compensate purchasers for defective design and/or materials.

We purchased a Maytag Neptune washer and Maytag Neptune dryer in September of 2000. The cost of the washer was $999 and the cost of the dryer was $549 plus $10 for parts. The panel control board on the washer failed in June 2004. It cost us $397.12 to repair it. We had no idea there was a class action suit against this machine and paid the repair service charge. Didn't the service man know? This week the control board for the motor, located at the bottom of the washer failed. At $75 for a Maytag repair man to come and look at it, his estimate for the control board alone was $250 and that did not include labor(approx $200).
We are now at $525 for repairs and have a 9 year old Maytag washer that now would cost us $1900 if we repaired it. We did not repair the machine, as advised by the repair man, to which we agreed. We have no washing machine and I am not sure if we have any recourse regarding the class action suit filed against Maytag. (Yes there is a great amount of mildew on the rubber door ring)! The dryer caused more wrinkles and would change cycles on its own; e.g., if I specified 20 minutes, after that time, it would re-set to 60 minutes. And it's much too hot! Last year, the washer started making grinding sound. I contacted Maytag by letter on June 29. They advised they would give me a 15% discount on any replacement Maytag or any other Whirlpool branded appliance. I decided to forgo their offer, and put up with the grinding noise. Two weeks ago, I noticed water on the floor (small amount) and had a service call today. Repair person said the washer needed a "main tub seals with bearing" and it would cost anywhere from $300 to $350. It was his recommendation to replace the washer since we were running the risk of causing the wooden floor under the washer to deteriorate. Also, I was told the washer had probably been leaking for about 6 months from the appearance of the interior.

I have to use the extended spin and sometimes the extra rinse to get a load of clothes clean and to get the water out of the clothes. It is putting holes in the clothes too.
Now, this washer stinks all the time and I have to run bleach in it at least once a week for the mold and odor. I paid a lot of money for this machine, and thought it would be worth it because I had a Maytag before this and it lasted 22 years. In 2005 I purchased a Neptune Washer and Dryer from Appliance Connection in Moundsville, WV. It was over $1500. It has had to be repaired several times. On the 19th of August the repairman came again and I was told several things were the matter. The control panel had a problem, the motor had a problem, there was oil and grease on the floor under the washer. There is also mold on the gasket. I was advised that it would cost too much to fix it and I should just get another one. I was also informed that these brands were not being made anymore due to these same problems and that Maytag sold out to Whirlpool.
I started to look at the Internet and ran across story after story about the same issues I was experiencing. There were also issues with the dryers of overheating and running the cloths. My dryer casing gets so hot at times it cannot even be touched. I also found that some models were recalled due to fire hazards. There was also a class action lawsuit involving my washer model. This was in 2004 and paid out to the people the money they paid or replacement certificates in 2005. I bought mine in April 2005. Appliance Connection after contacting them acknowledged they knew about the lawsuit but had to sell the appliances as they were a Maytag dealer. According to Whirlpool it was there option to sell or not sell.
The bottom line is that I bought a washer and dryer that was still in the stores after they had been part of a lawsuit for defective equipment. Whirlpool has offered me a option. That is to buy a new washer and they would give me 15% discount once I sent them the purchase information. I asked for this is writing and was told that as soon as I produced the paperwork I would receive the money.
So I believe that I should have never been able to buy the washer and dryer in the first place as they were defective and should have been pulled out of the stores. I was not informed by Appliance Connection there was a lawsuit on this model and now since these are the same machines in question I should be compensated just as those who were part of that suit. I am trying to also pursue the mold issue as a health issue. I and thousands of others are in the same situation so I think it is time to revisit the class action avenue for those of us who have the models in question.
The economic damage is that I have already paid out for the washer and dryer and the repairs and should not have to put out more money to have a washer and dryer. I am not sure with the mold issues if this is not a physical issue as well. I have an elderly mother with health issues and a son who is in the intensive care unit right now with respiratory problems.

I have a Neptune front load washer, and the machine has had a motor and timer replaced. The clothes do not come out clean. I have spots on the clothes after they are washed, even with the extra rinse cycle. I have taken apart the soap/bleach dispenser on the top of the machine, because it is rusting under the plastic dispenser, and the rust is flushed out when the water is being pumped into the dispenser, dumping it into the washer drum, and getting on the clothes. The other problem I have is that I have to use tweezers to pull out the wet lint, which stays trapped around the brushes that are around the grey drum seal, and this takes about one hour sitting on the basement floor. I believe this is causing a musty, mold smell when the wash cycle is complete.
Also, I was told by the repair guy to leave the machine door open to dry it out from time to time, which I did try numerous times, without any promising results. He also suggested running a bleach cycle to clean the machine, but that did not help the smell. I believe the pump on the machine does not totally pump out the water and that water sits in there and also causes the smell. This front load machine is supposed to save water, but if you have to run it once a week without clothes in it to clean it, or run the wash twice because the clothes are not clean, then how can this be economical. On the other hand, this is just one more piece of junk added to the overflowing landfills.
I am so tired of the junk that is being produced now. I had a top load Maytag washer, which lasted 23 years, before I purchased the Neptune. My old machine ran two or three times a day, because of my four kids, without ever having had a service call. I purchased the new Neptune when my top load Maytag machine finally quit working because my husband said it was probably not worth fixing because it was 23 years old. I am sorry I didn't just get it repaired. I now have a fairly new piece of junk that cost almost triple the amount of my old Maytag, and it still is not working the way they say it should.
Whatever happened to "made with pride in the USA", and not the made in some foreign country for a profit only. What option do we have as consumers? Our only option as consumers is to purchase another appliance every couple of years, and keep filling the landfills with the junk that is being produced. I would rather pay a little more for quality that is guaranteed to last for years, than fill the landfills with the junk we are forced to buy because no one believes in making quality products to last. They only believe in making quantity products for profit. My family and friends all will be informed of this piece of junk, so they will not have to deal with the problems I have had to.

Complaint: one year later, the washer would not drain. Repair was called. Three visits were eventually fixed. The cause was a coin in the pump. A few months later, the washer would not work. There’s no resolution to complaints made. Maytag still won’t work and I continued contacting Maytag with emails (after form was submitted, they stated that the site was under construction, try again later). I called and stopped into the Maytag dealer where I bought it and they said to contact Maytag. I have had no luck getting through calling. I wrote a letter - no response as of today.
There’s no resolution to get machine repaired (90-day warranty on machine and parts). There have been more days in the 3 years that I have had the machine that it did not work than the days it did work. I went to the Laundromat. I will have surgery this Friday. I will have no use of right arm due to the rotator cuff injury and will not be able to drive for 4 months. Over the last few weeks, it has begun to leak water more and more, to the point where we can't walk into the laundry room without bringing a canoe and a paddle!
This is mystifying. How many of us could provide a product/service for thousands and thousands of people, have it work for a very short period of time, and then make every one of those customers pay again to have it fixed, or even worse, purchase a new one all over again! We would be in jail if we did things like this. I have a five year old Maytag washer. I've had nothing but trouble with it over the five years repeated service calls. Today, a repairman (from the official Maytag service company in St. Louis) told me, in essence, I needed to buy a new washer because this round of repairs would cost more than buying a new washer. Among the repairs were a new pump and belt, idler and spring, the main/triple seal. He said the main or primary bearings were out. The total repair cost was in the neighborhood of $490. So I paid the $89 service call and called customer service at Maytag.
The best they would do is a 10% discount on a new Maytag washer. Given this, I decided to buy a new washer (from Home Depot) that is not manufactured by the company which makes Maytag (I bought a new GE washer). The repairman told me this should not have happened to a five year old washer. I bought the washer, paid for repeated repairs (meaning, I feel as though I bought it twice with the repair costs) and now five years later, must buy a new washer. I can't believe this machine has performed so badly and that the company will not stand behind it.

I bought the Maytag Neptune washer and dryer when it first came out. I paid over $1,600 for the pair. I have had nothing but trouble with both, but especially the washer. Mold, mold, mold! I replaced the gasket twice. I replaced the circuit board in 2007 and today, it quit with a sopping load of clothes in it and I use a wheelchair and can hardly stand. I had to wring out the sopping clothes and will have to drag them to the laundromat. Maytag did not notify me of the class action suit. I found out about it after it was settled and their attitude was "Tough luck, it was on the news and in the paper." I don't get a newspaper and I don't watch TV. They should have notified owners as other companies do when there is a suit. The mold has been making me sick for some time. Now I have standing water in the washer and what am I to do? I'm not putting more money into this mess!

I have bought a Maytag Neptune washing machine back in 2001; I believe the year was that. I have only problems with it. I thought the mold smell must have been my dryer so I threw out my two-year old dryer to get a new one. I still get the mold smell and I don't use the dryer which means the washer has a mold problem. I didn't know that there was a lawsuit for this problem. Can I still put in a claim? I now know I shouldn't have had to buy another dryer but couldn't figure the problem until I have looked Maytag Neptune complaints. I have a warranty which cost me a lot of money and the Sears man keeps having to come back replacing the same parts over and over again. Is there anything I can do to recover my costs with buying a new drier?

I bought a Maytag Legacy Washer in 2007 from Home Depot. It is 2 years old. About 6 months ago, it started making noises on the spin cycle, now it has completely gone kaput. The ball bearings were ruined and the entire motor needs to be replaced. I just found out today that the transmission may still be under warranty. But labor, costs of repairs and all else I have complained about, have led my husband to just buy another washer, not a Maytag or Whirlpool (which, by the way, are the same company now). So, he bought a New Zealand brand, over $800, after we paid over $500, only 2 years ago for the Maytag Legacy. I will never buy a Maytag or Whirlpool again and I will tell all my friends about this experience (and how there have been so many similar complaints).

I own a Maytag Neptune washer (Model Number: FAV 6800AWW). I called Maytag service about the mold problem in the washer some time after the original purchase because we kept smelling mold. We were told that they could send service out to clean at my expense and that it's not their problem. I have been taking the top off and cleaning this washer every two months in order to keep the mold under control; otherwise, the mold grows between the tub and the plastic liner and the smell and growth of mold gets out of control. Even after you wash your clothes, they would still have a linger of mold.
My wife is allergic to mold and for the longest time, we could not figure out why she was getting ill. I have continuously keep cleaning this machine. If there is anyone out there that has filed a class action lawsuit against Maytag, please let us know. My wife was getting ill from this stuff. We purchased a Maytag because of the name - never again.

I purchased Maytag Atlantis at Sears in 2000. After 9 years, it broke completely and had to be replaced. I was not going to spend $500 when I could purchase another washer from a "made in the U.S.A." company! What happened to the Maytag quality control? Are they using "planned obsolescence" like what the car manufacturers are doing?

I wanted you to know how extremely disappointed I am in my Maytag washing machine. After 25+ years of marriage, my husband and I were in need of a new washing machine. Our old Whirlpool was 15 years old and had about 3 visits over those years from our repairman, when it was time to buy new. I talked my husband into going with the best - a Maytag. After all, we were not newlyweds but well-established career people and I did not want to have a mismatched washer-dryer setup.
So, we paid the extra money needed to upgrade to a Maytag top-of-the-line Neptune. After all, I told him it would last for 20 years based on the reputation of the Maytag name. We have three grown-up-sized children and needed big capacity and longevity. Even though our dryer was still working fine, we got a new matching set (spending around $2,000).
Four years later, my washer repairman told me that the seals and bearings on my new Maytag Neptune needed replacing! What?! You're kidding. It's only 4 years old! It would cost $800 (3/4 of what I paid for it) a trip to the shop to be broken down, plus parts?! Four years earlier, I could have spent $300 for a machine that lasted only 4 years, not $1,000! Now, it needs costly repairs? I could have gotten a brand-new washer for that. But no, I insisted that my beautiful Maytag set stay together. So we paid $800 for the repair. After all, it would last at least for 4 more years, right? Wrong. It lasted 1 year and 5 months! One year and five months later, it was broken down and leaking again!
I could not justify another $800 (It was the seals and bearings again.) to repair it. I went to Sears and bought a $400 Kenmore washer and had the Maytag hauled away. Now, I have a mismatched set. I can only hope that the Maytag dryer will last as long as my Kenmore washer. I am hearing from salespeople, as well as repair men, that evidently Maytag created a lot of junk for a few years that there was a lawsuit? That some customers received some kind of compensation for the poor quality of this machine.
I'll tell you that I received nothing but financial hardship, disgust over my bad timing, and great disappointment in my selection of Maytag. I am a public school elementary teacher and cannot afford mistakes like this again. I will do my homework in the future and not rely on a name again. As far as the name Maytag goes, I will never buy anything (nor recommend to others) anything with that name ever again.

My complaint is my Maytag Neptune washer. On 12-12-02, Maytag installed a PHA because of mold in front of the machine. It stopped that problem for a while. Now, two more problems: after the clothes are washed, they smell moldy. I ran the wash cycle with hot water and bleach several times. It still smells. Now, when it's on the spin cycle, it is so loud we can't stand to be in the house. What can be done?

I absolutely would never buy a Maytag washing machine and have also told friends and family not to. The Neptune constantly gets dirt and gunk on my clothes when I wash them. I spend more time cleaning my washing machine then my clothes. Dirt and scum collect around the rubber seal of the drum constantly.

I bought Maytag washer Legacy series, model number mtw5570tq0, from Home Depot on 09/05/07. On 08/21/08, 11 months later, we had to have the timer replaced since it would not turn and also sparked. This is within the one year warranty. I did not figure a washer that cost less than $400 would need a extended warranty which costs $337 for three years or $132 for one year; also, since my mother had a Maytag for over 20 years and needed no warranty or service repair the entire time. Guess what? Within 11 months of the new timer being installed, it is now not working again. So I'm guessing the timer has only an 11-month life.
Now my washer's one year warranty is up and they will give me the part but I have to go to one of their repairmen to have it replaced which is at least $70 for labor. I am afraid the motor will also go after I read other complaints even with the timer being bad for other people. This is so bad for Whirlpool and Maytag. Hopefully, people will open their eyes and not buy from them. In this day and age, we cannot afford to be paying for an appliance that was less than one year old and now less than two years old that has the same problem. They sure don't make things to keep on working like they used to. It seems they are more interested in selling you the extended warranty for almost as much as the item cost. Now, I see why. Hey, I bet the Maytag repairman isn't sitting around looking for work anymore. His job seems more secure than most.
