Seven years ago when we bought a new house, we bought all new appliances, Maytag Washer and Dryer, because they were suppose to be extra good and sturdy, what a joke. For the past four or five years, I have had to replace the lock on the door of the washer, which means I'm without a washer for a week. Since no one stocks the parts because it is such a joke, some repair places won't even consider repairing a Neptune. Seems like since the company stopped making them because of the problems they have, as a minimum they should replace all Neptune washers that have been sold with a reliable washer, front loading in the same price range. I will never buy another Maytag product and will be sure to tell everyone I know not to buy them either.

I researched and saw there was a class action suit for this very problem and I was never informed. The washer may pose a health hazard and I would like Maytag to do something about it.

We lost our home in a tornado in 2005 and had to buy all new appliances. So, I bought a Maytag Neptune front load washer and dryer. It was my 1st ever. I will never buy another Maytag appliance again. Just at the end of the 5th year going into the 6th year, the bearings started to go. So, I checked with the place where we bought it and was told how expensive it would be to fix. It was anywhere between $500.00 and $700.00. Well, that's crazy. I therefore e-mailed Maytag numerous times and was thanked for my complaint. But they offered no help with this matter.

If they don't back their stuff at all, why would I want to buy their stuff? They could have at least offered to help with it. There are only 2 people living in this house and there is no excuse why that washer should start failing already. If I thought it was worth it, I would load it up and drop it off at a Maytag store and leave it there. It still runs. But it makes an awful noise and we are just waiting for it to crap out. I am going to try to sell it for as much as I can get out of it, hopefully before it completely stops. Maybe some fix-it guy would want it. We'll tell him what's wrong and they can fix it and sell it to some other poor person. I lost my job in January. Therefore, I can't afford that much to fix it. So, I will now have to try to find something used, because Maytag does not back their stuff. I would rate this machine lower if I could, but that wasn't an option.

I spoke with Mike today at the customer service department at Maytag to see if Maytag would pay for the parts to repair my 04/2010 Maytag front load washer (model MHWE450WW00). The bearing assembly needs to be replaced. So, that means the tub and basket need to be replaced too. The original cost in 04/2010 was $1,088 plus tax. The cost to repair is $1,048. Maytag will do nothing since it was purchased over 12 months ago. I can't believe I just threw almost $1100 away on a washer. Obviously, there is something wrong when an appliance doesn't work after 1.5 years.

We bought the highly rated Maytag Bravo washer and dryer in March of 2010. In less than a year, the dryer broke down and the drum drive belt had to be replaced under warranty. Last month the washer drum stopped turning. A & E Factory Service quoted $466.87 to replace the bearing that had failed. We have hated this washer since the day we got it. So, it wasn't hard to buy a Samsung front loader and have the miserable Maytag hauled away to wherever badly designed machines go. Trying to wash clothes using high speed spinning instead of water causes excessive wear on the clothes and the machine as well as tying the clothes in knots. It is one of the worst mechanical designs I have ever seen.

We purchased a Maytag Bravos Quiet Series 300 in June '09. The dryer timer has malfunctioned since shortly after purchase, it will add time near the end of the cycle, sometimes as much as an hour or more. We have had factory authorized repair firms (tried several) attempt to fix the problem both during the original warranty and extended warranty periods. They replaced the "mother board" twice and the moisture sensor on another occasion. All to no avail. Maytag has been worse than useless in the whole situation, and now will do nothing. It seems our only choice is to live with it, keep replacing parts, hasn't helped yet", or buy a new dryer. You can bet it will not be a Maytag!

This situation is dangerous, if left unattended when the malfunction occurs the clothes and interior of the dryer get extremely hot. It is a potential fire hazard.

I purchased it 8 months ago. I have had problems with the machine leaving clothes soaked at the end of cycle. I have contacted Maytag (still under warranty) and they replaced the motor. The first load after repair still had the same problem. They said the check drain was not clogged. The snaked drain has no backups. After every wash, I have to reset the cycle to drain and spin. The machine spins for seconds and fills back up with water and doesn't spin again, but does drain. Clothes are sopping wet at the end of cycle. I contacted Maytag. They said I could be billed for customer education ($129) if they find no problem (threat). I want my money for purchase returned or at least 3/4ths. I expected my new machine to last years, not months.

If I could rate it lower than 1 star, I would. We bought ours new in 2005. Within 6 months, the main pulley for spinning the drum fell off not once but thrice. The repair tech said that the shaft was machined incorrectly at the factory and the bolt that would normally hold it on was backing out. The 3rd time it happened was close to the end of the warranty and the tech could not make it out before the warranty date. When he did show up, they wanted to charge us. I wound up putting the part in myself. Two months later, the 'suds' alarm came on, which caused the water valve to open. The pump kicked out and the water valve stayed on flooding my basement and the electronics in the washer. This happened twice. The second time was a week ago and I tossed the ** out to the curb. We also have a Maytag Gemini double stove which does not work either. This is the second and last Maytag appliance that I will ever own. They are junk!

The Maytag Neptune FAV6800AWW Washer has to be the crappiest product I have ever bought. I bought it brand new and hardly ever used it. The first time it broke it was luckily under warranty, although we had to pay for the repair man to install it. It took two new circuit boards before it was fixed. A few months later, the circuit board went again, and it was conveniently for Maytag now out of warranty. The repair man told us that their company never carried these washers because from the get go they had a ton of problems. He said that the odds of it breaking again were great and that we would be better off putting the money into a new washer.

I don't understand how the company, in good conscience, could continue to sell a product to consumers that they knew was faulty. It was not a cheap washer and I have never been so disappointed in my life. You would think they would have had a mass recall or, knowing how many problems consumers were having with the product, offer so much money towards a new one.

I laugh at the commercials where the Maytag man was bored because their product never broke I could have kept that man busy for months!

I did receive a call from the Maytag customer service and all they would do is make a note of my complaint. I feel if you pay almost $1,000.00 for a machine it should work for more than 22 months. I believe Maytag manufactures an inferior product.

Not only did it not last, my family and I found that the clothes didn't come out as clean as it should have, and sometimes, the towels would have a mildew smell to them after washing and drying. As far as the dryer was concerned, I was told to live with the timer issue rather than replace the expensive mother board. I was also told that the "drum bearing" issue with the washer is fairly common with the Maytag machines. It looks like the Maytag repairman isn't so lonely anymore! We purchased our home in late 2010 and was excited about our HE front-load washer (and dryer). Immediately, we noticed mold on the rubber boot, and the smell was horrible. We ran the washer with Affresh several times and left the door to open when not in use, and that seemed to help.

Then most recently, the washer's been shutting off mid-cycle through normal wash setting. I used to pound the washer out of frustration, and that seemed to get the machine working, but now it doesn't work at all. We had a repairman come out, and he charged us $94 to basically remove debris from the drain hose, and he told us that if the washer fails again, we'd be looking at an expensive repair cost pertaining to the central control unit.

We had a second repairman come out and replace the central control unit. It worked while he was here, but now it's messing up again, shutting down mid-cycle. I have to unplug the washer for hours, replug, put it on rapid wash cycle (and hope it doesn't fail), and if it fails, then unplug, wait, put it on spin cycle...

It's aggravating, and we're looking at $300 to $400 in repair costs. Our repair man says front loaders are a nightmare (and he still has his non-HE washer from the '80s, and it's still working). Our washer is Maytag Epic Z, model number MHWZ600TE00. Avoid front loaders, and definitely Maytag or Whirlpool front loaders. We'll need to shop around for a new washer, an old-fashioned top loader this time.

The machine had light use over the past 15 months, and hence was not covered under warranty. So I am out $650 for the machine and $200 for the repair that resulted in continued and even worse malfunctioning. Our Maytag washer 4000 series was installed on September 2010. Within 12 months and 5 days, we are now waiting for our second spin bearing to be replaced. It is a repair that takes 2 guys and 2 hours, and they basically have to replace the guts of the machine. I can imagine this is, at minimum, a $500 repair. We didn't buy the extended warranty, but luckily, the appliance shop was able to talk Maytag into eating the cost since we were only 5 days out. With the purchase of our new house, we "upgraded" from our appliance allowance to this model. With everything going on with the new house and selling our old one, I didn't do my normal internet searches for customer reviews and that was a mistake!

Maytag has since sent us a warranty extension offer for $350, covering 3 more years. I guess I'll be buying that. It sucks that you pay top dollar for a washer only to find out that you have to pay an extra 40% just to keep it running for 4 years. No more Maytags for me, ever. Note to Maytag, you sell junk and your business goes into the ground. You are selling junk! Stop trying to squeeze every penny out of design and build, or you won't have a job.

I have the Maytag Bravos washer and dryer. The machine has broken several times every year, and every year, Maytag makes me feel like it is my fault. They built a machine, and they do not stand behind it. And I cannot get a local machinist to work on it. I have asked Maytag to replace it from the start, and they refused, telling me "it's out of warranty." The only thing out of warranty is the frame--all parts are new. Here is the history:

On 1/04/2008, I purchased it from Home Depot, and it cost $815. Then in 4/2009, there was an F51 code, and Maytag replaced the mother board after long hold times and much pleading to help me. They said they could do nothing, because it was out of warranty. It took manager to manager to manager to get the agreement to extend the warranty. (I then found that this was a regular Maytag issue.)

From 9/2010 to 10/2010, an ld code occurred. The approved Maytag scheduled service had to come out 4 different times to attempt to fix the issue. One time, they said it was broken wires for the drain pump. The next, it was off balance; and the next, it was a sensor. Then the next time, they replaced the mother board again, and again after much argument that the part was less than a year old. Each time, they get more and more difficult to deal with and made me feel more and more like I am asking them for something unreasonable. The service guys said the washer was like new.... All new parts and I would never have a problem again. It cost $80 after argument, and Maytag covered the parts.

Last 2/2011, problems include a fast spin, ld code, and off balance; and it stopped working. It needed new suspension rods which cost $250. Maytag paid nothing. Then in 8/2011, ld code started again, and I would have to turn off to drain and then restart to spin. Maytag called in a service call, and they never showed up. Every time, they said they read over my file and that there's nothing they can do to help me. And no one else for me to speak to.

In 10/2011, the ld code came on permanently. The Maytag call I made this time again said there was nothing they could do to help me.

I am so frustrated; I don't know what to do next. I threw away an older set working washer and dryer, thinking I made a great decision to upgrade to this new set. Now my family of 5 cannot wash our clothes. No one will work on the washers locally, and Maytag treats me like I'm complaining for nothing and I should just spend endless dollars to fix this machine. And I'm at a loss. I had to get a part for the dryer the other day, and the parts store person told me that this washer is one of Maytag's mistakes. if that is so, why won't they help me?

There is no lint collector and after about 8 years of using this washer, the old lint is in the bottom of my washer after every wash. Now, I have to deal with the thing coming to a screeching stop, not spinning out the water after the wash cycle. Now tonight, I went downstairs and found water on the floor, it’s leaking. My question is to call and get it repaired or not waste my money and go buy another brand. I may go with the latter.

I purchased a fridge and dryer at Home Depot a few years ago. I wanted to stay away from Maytag name. I purchased another name only to find out it is part of Maytag. No wonder I’m having trouble with my fridge, making ghost-like howling sounds so loud it consumes the entire house. So annoying. Stay away from Maytag. I called Brothers Main, they sent a service person who identified right away that it was a known problem and he had over 6 repairs already, but be prepared to wait up to 3 months for the replacement parts. This is ridiculous. The service center, you can never get through to them and when you do, they don't seem to care. I had a 10-year old washer that made less noise than this brand new one that I spent $1800 for.

I purchased the Maytag Atlantis Washer and dryer in 2004. I had the washer transmission replaced in 2006, I believe. For about a year now, the washer makes an awful screeching noise. I am not sure if it's towards the end of the spin cycle or the rinse cycle, or both. In addition (and over the last 3-4 years), the dial sticks or stalls every delicate cycle. It will stop during the initial agitating and all you can hear is a ticking noise, in which you then have to manually give the dial a slight turn for the cycle to continue. It does it once on the light delicate and twice on the normal delicate. It really is a shame that Maytag is not acknowledging all of these problems as it is not feasible for most people to have a spare $1500 kicking around for a new washer and dryer every time they unfortunately buy a lemon. My previous washer and dryer were 25 years old and still working perfectly when I decided to part with them because they were fairly small. I don't even ever recall having any issues with either one of them in the whole 25 years that I had them. To see all of these complaints makes me more irritated with my appliances and my selection!

We have also replaced the door switch, as well as flooding my laundry room floor several times.

In 2006, we received a notice of recall. We responded to the recall and were supplied with a GFCI plug for our washer, as this was to prevent the control board from catching on fire. In September 2011, the control panel on the Neptune washer failed.

It had a recall for a heater part that could potentially burn down my house, so we couldn't use it while we waited for that part to be replaced. They offered me a small sum of money towards the purchase of a much more expensive dishwasher which I declined since I'd only had the dishwasher a few months at the most. It is now the end of August 2011, a month past their factory warranty. The dishwasher did not get my dishes clean, made awful grinding noises and three days ago, it refused to drain and then spewed 50 or more gallons of water all over my kitchen which then leaked into the basement.

The repairman charged $85 to tell me that the computer in the control panel had burned out and was not fixable. I think I paid somewhere in the region of $500 for this machine. My last dishwasher lasted about ten years. This is completely unacceptable. In searching the internet, I found hundreds, if not thousands of identical complaints. Clearly, this machine is a lemon and Maytag should be forced to replace it or better yet, refund the money spent to purchase the machine. Plus, pay for my valuable time spent mopping up water, washing dishes by hand, searching the internet for probable cause and potential solutions, waiting for Maytag/Home Depot to respond to my inquiries and a large sum for general annoyance. I purchased an Atlantis washer in 2005 and assumed that Maytag was still one of the better manufacturers. How naive of me!

What genius at Maytag thought it was a good idea to place the water filter inside the washer? Not only can you not keep the filter clean so that cold water will flow properly, even worse, if the filter completely clogs, the water will not stop filling into the tub which could, of course cause an overfill and flood. I narrowly escaped this scenario once. No one should have to stand and watch their machine fill with water to insure it stops. Now the machine is causing a grinding noise when agitating. I expect it to stop working any day. I will not buy another Maytag or Whirlpool, who of course now owns Maytag. And I will not pay another repair bill for the filter or any other part. The brand was once considered the best in America, now it's just another brand that's a piece of junk produced in another country.

In 2007, we bought a Maytag Neptune Washer Dryer Combo from Lowes. By 2008, the washer started stopping operation at every rinse setting, requiring someone to constantly monitor the machine to assure that the button was pushed to fulfill the entire cycle. We called a repair company and were told that the machine was shutting down because the screen in the water intake was getting clogged with debris and was making the machine feel that the water was shutting off. Thus, according to the repair man, the machine was shutting itself off. He showed me how to clean the screens in the intake line and charged me about $150 for the service call. Within a week the machine was doing the same thing again. I pulled out the screens and they were clean. We continued to "watch over" the washer whenever it was doing the wash and continued to push the button to restart the machine. We live in a very rural area and there are really no repair services available without paying enormous fees just to get them to make a call and the wait is often more than a week.

Shortly after the intake incomplete cycle problem, the washing machine stopped getting the water out of the clothes in the spin cycle, forcing us to wring out the clothes before putting them in the dryer. Then we noticed that the washer was leaking from the bottom rear all over our hardwood flooring. We went out and bought a new washer dryer based on reading consumer reports.

The cost to replace this piece of crap from Maytag was in excess of $1600. We are only in this house part of the year so this Maytag product not only did not work very well over the short time that we owned it, but it was only being used for a few months out of the year. We have since learned that there was a class action suit over this product line and would like to know how to join the suit. We are so far out in the woods that we will not get our new washer / dryer until some 2 weeks out from our purchase. We have spent nearly $3,000 since 2008 on washer dryers, an average of $1,000 a year.

I share the complaints of others about the Maytag Bravos washer (model MVWB300WQO), which I purchased in October of 2009.

Besides being overpriced, it's a washer that doesn't soak clothes, develops a bad odor, has silly things like unnecessary lights and music, and you can't add an item once the wash cycle has begun without the cycle starting over from the beginning. It also leaves washed items in twisted wads and the lid locks so you can't see what's going on inside. In addition, it damages items. I'll have to replace a full-sized blanket that it recently destroyed and now I can't trust that it'll wash things safely, which is a problem.

The person I spoke with at the company's customer service department simply said that I should've used the bulky item option instead of the regular cycle. I explained that I'd used the bulky item cycle before and the same thing happened. The washer leaves larger items stretched very tightly across the tub and I suspect that is how my lightweight cotton blanket was destroyed. She offered to schedule someone to service the washer. But it's not broken, it's a poor design, so sending someone here would be a waste of time.

I purchased a Bravo Washer and Dryer from Home Depot. The Maytag Bravo washer and dryer we purchased from Home Depot did not work from the beginning. Before I called Maytag, I tried for several months to redo the way I was loading the washer and dryer.

I tried several different settings however, the clothing keeps coming out smelling like it is still worn. Spots are in the clothing that normally comes out with a washing (with my prior washer). The clothing just does not get cleaned and it gets so tangled that it has ruined some of my clothing. There is clumping of the detergent, even though not a lot has been used.

I had the repair company come out three times for both the washer and the dryer. They have checked and no errors codes where found. One gentleman told me again to redo the way I load the washer and the dryer. I have done it so many times, but I tried again and even purchased little dryer balls. It made no difference.

I called Maytag again and was told they would have to have another company come in and do a second opinion. The person came and said that he agreed that the washer should be able to wash and the dryer should be working correctly. He recommended that a possible problem with the motherboard for the dryer (which was a possible problem mentioned by visit #2) could be handled, but he had to have it approved. He would check with the company and get back to me.

I received a call the next day and a message was left telling me there is nothing he can do with the washer. He was told by Maytag/Whirlpool that I should only fill the tub lightly and not pack it down (I told everyone how I load and I never pack my clothing down). The washer should, when loaded with wet clothing, be only 1/3 to full otherwise it decreases the wash ability dramatically.

The problem of the siphoning action for the softener section of the washer should be handled by running boiling water through the tube to loosen up the wax portion of the softener. The possible correction for the dryer exchanging the motherboard (it could be set incorrectly) was turned down by saying that the dryer is running to Maytag/Whirlpool’s satisfaction and nothing else would be done, since there are no error codes for both washer and dryer.

My towels have a mildew odor to them when they are used. They have to be washed twice and run through the dryer a long time before I can put them away. I purchased a high capacity washer and dryer and I am told now not to fill it more then 1/2 full. That is not what I was told by the person selling it. Otherwise, I would not have purchased this set at all.

Service was scheduled to come repair the "broken" baffles inside the washing machine. A&E arrived on 6/23 to inspect the problem. They did not have any parts on the service truck, they had to be ordered. The repairman said I could install them myself. I refused and had A&E come back to install the baffles due to the warranty. The "new" baffles were installed on 6/23. Today 6/29, the baffles snapped again. I called Maytag (Whirlpool) immediately and let them know I was very unhappy since they were repaired 7 days ago.

I demanded a new machine (I paid $804.12 just for the washing machine). I was offered an extended service agreement for 1 year, I requested a new machine. I explained I could not keep going through this every couple of days or months. Dina told me they would not replace my washer. I asked to speak with someone higher and was told she is the highest it could go. I requested the address for the executive office, it was given to me. Service was rescheduled now with A&E for 7/6 and an additional 1 year service agreement. My concern is this will continue to be an issue with this washing machine.

I bought a Maytag Bravo Washer and Dryer two years ago last May. The wash does not put in enough water to wash the clothes well. Yesterday, I added about 6 gallons of water and it washed fine. When I called Whirlpool/Maytag, all they could tell me is that was the way it was designed. I said there is something wrong with a design if it is an automatic washing machine and it will not wash clothes. Clothes that still smelled, spots, had to turn blankets over and wash again.

My Maytag Neptune washer wasn't spinning the water out then it kept going on to pause so I called the place where I bought it from. Their repairman didn't know what was wrong so he called the main company. Their tech didn't know either. So the repairman tried a new computer board and that wasn't the problem.

Now, I get a call from Zielges where I bought it from stating my washer needed a new motor and motorboard that would cost for part only $415. They suggest I call the main company. D/T was bought in 2007 and see maybe they could help with the price. When I called, the only answer I got was that the warranty is off and there's nothing they can do. I understand the warranty is off but this machine coast $700 and the part will cost $415.

When I bought this Maytag, it was built to last. So what happened? This is unfair to pay $700 new and four years later spend more to fix it. I can't afford to fix it or buy a new one with the recession now. I have to go to laundry center. I'm very upset and frustrated with the company. Maytag has always been a better brand. All I wanted was part of the cost of a new motor and motorboard.

Maytag dryer model MEDC300X - I bought a new dryer from Lowe's. The first time I used it, it snagged all my towels which were brand new. I determined the sensor had a sharp edge on it, thus the snagging. It was repaired and the sensor replaced. I emailed Maytag and was told their warranty does not cover this. It was delivered defective. It didn't happen after using it for years. I can see that, but it was brand new. I sent a UPS package with pictures, a letter explaining, the service slip, even the threads I had to cut off my towels. I emailed them yesterday to see why I had not heard from them yet. I sent my letter on May 27, 2011. She said there was nothing they could do and she offered me $50. Those towels cost me $168.00 (without tax). It seems a small amount to pay to keep customer satisfaction, which is also good advertising for the company. Now, I have nothing good to say about Maytag.

I purchased a washer (Maytag Legacy Series); and at the same day, it would not wash. A repairman came out; and it was the transmission. I should have sent it back at that point. After the repairman removed the new/old transmission and replaced it, it worked fine. Then about 11 months later, it started leaking. I kept thinking it was my water hoses or the water spigots coming from the wall.

After another 5 or so washes, and a couple of more weeks, with my husband and I looking and feeling and watching, I discovered it wasn't a leak from the spigot or a back-up in my wall or my water faucets nor lint build up. It was indeed the washer. I sat it in the garage and it's still sitting there. My laundry room is on the third floor of my tri-level home; water leaked all through my ceilings. What a waste of money. No, I did not purchase an extended warranty, so I was out of luck; and it was just a few days past the one year point. We had no warranty and we were out of money, stuck with a new piece of junk. It still looks brand new.

From the start I had problems getting clothes clean on the Hand Wash cycle, sheets, and blankets wading and the machine becoming unbalanced. I now wash most our clothes on Bulky to get them clean. This week error code F-36 showed up. So far three times and worse each time.

I did not purchase the extended warranty as I was spending close to a $1000.00 for a quality product and have found they are usually a waste of good money. I have contacted Maytag this week, twice. Their response is pretty much, you should have bought the extended warranty, we cannot help you. Oh, but you are a valued customer!

After looking through comments on many sites, it seems lots of people have problems getting their clothes clean and have error code F-36. It appears Whirlpool-Maytag has built a product with lots of problems and is not going to stand behind it. Anyone else feels ripped off?

We purchased a brand new Maytag washer in September 2010 from Home Depot. We also purchased the extended warranty since we plan on keeping our appliances for as long as possible. It worked fine for about 5 months. The spin cycle gradually began to get louder and louder until it became virtually impossible to hear anyone talk over the noise.

I contacted Whirlpool/Maytag and scheduled an appointment under the 1 year manufacturer's warranty. The warranty repair company came out, spent about one minute checking out the spin cycle, and knew exactly what the problem was. It is apparently a common issue, and the entire tub, as well as 2 other parts, must be replaced. As it turns out, one of the parts is on backorder and the scheduled shipping date is July 1. Of course, this may be bumped back as well.

In the meantime, my washer continues to get louder and louder and now, it sounds like parts are coming off. I honestly do not believe that it will work for the next 3 weeks while I wait for parts. I have a family of 6 and having clothes to wash every single day. The part about this that is the most ridiculous? It is going to cost Whirlpool/Maytag over $1,000 to repair a washer that cost us $750. If I cannot get this resolved quickly, I will never buy a Whirlpool appliance again.

I bought a new Maytag Atlantis washer & dryer (top-of-the-line models) from Best Buy mid-May 2003. About 3-4 yrs later, the dryer started having problems. I had to "angle" the knob to get it to start, which later became jamming a plastic letter opener behind the knob to help "angle" it more, to finally having the console replaced. The repairman remarked that this was unusual - the Atlantis washers are the problem, not the dryers. About 2 yrs ago, the washer started occasionally making a high-pitched squeal at the end of the spin cycle (flashback to repairman's statement). After awhile, it became constant & the cycles weren't working right (extra rinse wouldn't spin, etc). Replaced the console on the washer which fixed the cycle/spin problems but still had the squeal. A couple months ago, while washing a king comforter (the MAIN reason I chose this particular washer), it wouldn't drop the fabric softener or spin. Although it drained the water, the comforter was sopping wet.
No, it was not out-of-balance (been washing the same king comforters in this machine for 7+ yrs), tried the other spin cycle, etc., nothing worked. Took the comforter out & ran a small test load of clothes - fine. Ran 2 more regular loads of clothes - fine. Tried the comforter again - fine. Ok, so maybe it was a fluke. A couple weeks later, it became extremely loud throughout the entire spin cycle - no more squeal at the end, this is more of a "cleared for take-off" loud (actually sounds like a plane winding up). These machines are almost 8 yrs old now so I looked up the washer's "symptoms" and found it's a problem w/the drive which is a $4-500 fix. SCREW THAT, MAYTAG! I've babied these machines from day one (they look brand new, I buy special cleaners to clean them - inside & out, I vacuum the dryer, etc.) & I'm not putting any more time, effort or money into them - I'm done! I have had it w/Maytag & Whirlpool (also have issues w/Whirlpool fridge & dishwasher that were well taken care of, too).

Used to be, you could buy a Maytag or Whirpool appliance & you'd be proud of how well they worked & how long they lasted - now they are just junk. I forgot to mention - the washer is very hard on clothes, towels, sheets - I have always had to wash one level below, i.e., wash cotton on permanent press, wash permanent press on delicate, et al. I decided to do some research before the washer gave out so I would know what to buy rather than be panicked. After doing my research, I decided not to wait on the damn thing to die so I'm anticipating delivery of my new LG ultra capacity, high efficiency set on Friday. Can't wait to see them haul that Maytag Atlantis crap out of my house - good riddance!

Sometimes it stops because it thinks the clothes are dry; other times it just keeps running and I realize it has been too long which makes me afraid to leave the house with it running.

My real complaint is the washer. It does not get clothes clean. I'm washing things three times and it's really hard on the clothes and me. It's physically taxing because the clothes are tangled and wadded. I bought a top loader because I thought it would be easier on my back. I am now unloading, untangling, shaking out wet clothes then reloading them again and again just to get them clean. You can actually see clean/ dirty streaks on light-colored items. I've taken the suggestions from customer service and the owner's manual. I've had the machine leveled twice. It goes out of balance frequently. Every time you wash pants because they get so tangled it drags them into a ball and the weight becomes lopsided.

I have tried all different settings as suggested. I have tried loading the clothes differently ( like folding pant legs and shirt sleeves in) but nothing helps.

We purchased A Maytag Neptune front load washer & dryer soon after they came out 1/2000. Sometime after it began making a horrible racket. It did that for a long time. I bought the extended warranty and had a serviceman come out. It was a bearing that was going. The entire drum & casing had to be replaced. It took 2 guys a couple of hours to do it once they got the parts in one piece. They seem to come broken quite frequently. That repair cost the repair co. more than they were paid by Maytag. It was well over $1000. I was lucky to have the insurance. Now here we are again having problems that the washer stops mid cycle & I have to babysit it and if it stopped, simply push the on button again & again & again as long as it takes to get it to finish. It washes & rinses everything fine. Clothes are clean & spun out nicely. The washer sometimes gets very noisy. The dryer has never given us one bit of trouble.

We also had to contact Maytag for the moldy odor. They gave us a brush with some detergent to clean it out. My husband cleans it periodically now so it stays fresh. My other option was a coupon for a few hundred bucks toward a new machine. I didn't have money to go and pay the other hundreds of dollars to go with the few measly dollars they offered me to buy a new machine. I was pretty lucky that my machine is now over 11 yrs old & when it started acting up again we decided it was time to let it die. We just went out & purchased a new Maytag MHW6000XW 4.3 cu. ft. front load washer & MGD6000XW 7.4 cu. ft. gas dryer with the steam. They will haul away my washer & set my dryer out in my garage. I will sell that on Craigslist.

I have a Maytag dishwasher that I have had for over 11 yrs also with only one problem and that was a recall & they came & changed that part out. No problem. I hope I am not making a mistake by buying this machine. I am excited to have the steam dryer & the Extra Heavy Duty washer so that I can wash my king size blankets & comforters. Had to go to the laundromat with the Neptune. They were way too small for that king size stuff. Just a note to everyone with a High Efficiency Washer!!! Make sure you are only using the High Efficiency (HE) laundry detergent in your machine. Save yourself the money by saving detergent and it is much easier on your machine & clothes.

I purchased a new Maytag washer six months ago and it broke on 2/11/11. I called the 1-800 number for Maytag to have it repaired as it was still under warranty on 2/12/11. They were closed and I could not report it until 2/14/11, a Monday. That day, they scheduled a repair for the first available, which was Tuesday, 2/15/11, with Shelton Service Co. in Tulsa. They came out on 2/15/11 and said that they needed to order a part which was a new control panel as the one on it had gone out after six months. They were supposed to come out on Saturday as that would give them time to get the part in and install it. They also wanted me to have someone to help them move the dryer off the top of the washer as they were stackable and I had paid extra to have it installed on top of the washer.

My husband and I were not able to lift the dryer so we asked the company if they could hire someone to help them. They said that they could not. I told them that I would ask my adult sons to help but they could not take off work--but they were off on Saturday. This is why the repairman said that he could come out on Saturday so that my sons could help him lift the dryer off the washer to repair it. On Saturday, 2/19/11, the repair company called and said that the part (from Dallas, TX, they said) did not come in and they would have to reschedule. They rescheduled for Wednesday, 2/23/11, as they said that was the soonest that they could reschedule for.

That morning of 2/23/11, the repairman said that he needed for our sons to be there to lift the dryer off the washer and he scheduled us for the last appointment of the day so that our sons could come after work at 5:00. He came at 6:00 PM, and installed the new control panel. It did not repair the washer. At this point, the washing machine had water standing in it for a week and a half. When he got the door open, it smelled so bad it took your breath away. I asked him to drain the water. He could not because the new part would not fix it. He said that he needed to call the Maytag tech line and they were closed at that time. But he would call us the following day, 2/23/11, and would come back out and fix it.

He did not call back by 2:00 PM the following day so I called him on his cell phone as he had given it to me. He said that he was in Bartlesville, OK, and was going to call me when he got back to town. He said that the Tech line told him that the control panel, the new part he had installed, must be defective! (I purchased a Maytag brand specifically and paid more for it because I thought that they had dependable products. Now, the new part is defective as well as the original part on the washer. Do they not test the parts before they send them out?) He said that he had ordered a new part from Dallas just like the one he had installed and that it would not take a very long time to come in. He thought that he would have it by Friday, 2/25/11, and he would put us on his schedule so that we would not have to wait any longer and could repair it by then.

The afternoon of Friday, 2/25/11, I began calling the repairman on his cell phone as I had contacted him by that number previously. I only got his voice mail and left him three messages to call me and let me know what was going on with my repair. He did not call back on either of the three messages. Today, Monday, 2/28/11, I called the 1-800 number for Maytag repair and told them that I wanted them to send someone out today to repair my washer. This is the most expensive washer they make. It is a front loader with steam. They offered to send out a different company to repair it but they could not come out until Tuesday, 3/1/11. They could not guarantee that the new company would not have to order the part and it would take longer.

At this point, this washing machine has been sitting in my house full of dirty stinky water and my whole house smells! In addition to that, it is molding the washing machine so that if they are ever able to repair it, it will have mold in it and cause the clothing to stink. I asked Maytag to bring me another washing machine or fix that one today. I do not think that I was being unreasonable. They would not do it, but offered to extend my warranty for six more months. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was transferred to one. She called Shelton service company in Tulsa and was told that they had not ordered the part until Friday, 2/25/11, even though the previous one had failed to fix the washer on 2/23/11.

She then told me that when the repair company got the part, they would come out on Monday, 3/7/11, to install it and that was the soonest that they could come out. I again asked for them to replace the washer. She said that they could not and again, offered to extend the warranty for six more months. I am worried that this machine is a lemon since they tried to repair it and the brand new part was defective. I am not sure that it was defective, but I think that they are just telling me that because they do not know how to fix it. Even if they do repair it, the awful smell will never come out of this. They refused to do anything. I want to know about the lemon law in Oklahoma. Is there anything you can do to help me or do I have to hire an attorney?

We have been putting up with these problems for years. Recently, the washer flooded our laundry room. I inspected the door and the drum abraded through the plastic in the door, causing all the door water to leak on the floor. I called Maytag and of course, they were of no help. This is obviously a design flaw and potentially a new problem with this series of washers. I recommend those who have the Neptune model to inspect the under surface of the door as this may be worn. This may save you from flooding your floor! We spent over $1200 for this washer and it only lasted 5 years. We will never buy Maytag again because they don't stand behind their products even if they know that they have designed a lemon.

Both items have been worked on numerous times and took close to 2 weeks before anything gets fixed. When I called and complained, I was told that on the new extended warranty it has only happened once even though it happened 3 to 4 times on the previous warranty. I really feel this is taking advantage of the elderly and not standing behind your product. These two items should have been replaced a long time ago. I have been a long time customer of your products and after my experience with customer service for my in-laws at this point, I cant say I will ever purchase another product of yours again.

We bought a Maytag Neptune Top loader in 2005. We have had nothing but problems. The first year, the LED panel went out. Under warranty, we still had to pay for service call. Over the next three years, we replaced three door locks (more service calls). Now it is completely broke and needs a new clutch. This repair will cost over $300. I am not throwing any more money at this machine. Is there a "lemon" law that would apply?

This is more of a product complaint regarding the Maytag Bravos washers/dryers. I purchased the set in the summer of 2010 after a fairly extensive product review online. I guess I should have given more weight to the individuals who indicated the issues with the product. Because the majority of the reviews were positive or mostly positive, I went with this product. However, some of the reviews I read indicated that the washer was rough on clothes (I agree) and that the washer balled up the clothes into tight wads producing many wrinkles (it does).

Some of the reviews also indicated that the dryer takes a long time to dry (it does) and that it does not get out the wrinkles that the washer causes. Unfortunately, though the pair may be energy/water efficient, I wish I could get my old washer and dryer back. This pair is such a huge disappointment and not worth the substantial expense (at $1,700) compared to an average washer and dryer. Since I kept my old pair for 14+ years, I will probably resign myself to being stuck with these machines for some time to come. My suggestion is try another make/model--don't go with Bravos!

I will have to replace my dryer because of a 96 dollar part that Maytag opted not to manufacture. This is a horrible product lifecycle management. I truly expected more from a name like Maytag. But I guess that's the result of Whirlpool driving.

I purchased a new 4000 Maytag high efficiency washer and dryer in September 2010. High efficiency is a joke. The washer does not do a good job of cleaning, and when the load is done, the clothes are twisted all up with each other. It is terrible. The dryer takes much more time than my old dryer, so I do not see these as high efficiency, but poor results and perhaps lower water usage with not very clean loads. I am very upset with this purchase. The total for my washer and dryer was $2,294.00 which is not exactly inexpensive!

This supposed "Centennial" top-loading washing machine was purchased from Home Depot on 10/28/2007. Since that time, the timer, which controls the machine's progress through the cycles, broke down on 1/18/2008. We had it replaced. This same part broke down again on 5/28/2010. We had the timer replaced a second time. On 1/14/2011, this same part has broken down for a third time. Clearly this part is defective. How do we get Maytag (now owned by Whirlpool) to either fix this washer permanently or refund the money paid for this useless machine?

I purchased a Maytag washer and dryer about two and a half years ago, which I also purchased warranties to protect my new appliances. After a year, the dryer stopped working and it took me many months to receive a replacement after it was coded as unrepairable. My first washer with the set flooded my house straight out of the box after hook up, causing great damage.

Maytag would not do a thing. I returned the washer to the retailer and this washer has been repaired numerous times, with the next repair estimating 700 to 800 dollars. The machine flooded my house yesterday and warranty is not responding. They explained three criteria for replacing a machine.

    1) Has the same part failed three times.
    2) Is it cost effective, meaning is it going to cost more to repair the machine then to replace it.

    3) If the parts are to costly (which repeats #2). Well, after previous service calls, and the next estimated service call, it is then the machine is selling for and with three deliveries of parts that have been delivered broken (delaying repair for three months), it seems to me that the numbers well exceeds the replacement cost of the machine.

I spoke to the warranty department and they refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor and refuse to replace my machine, and stated that I will just have to wait until a part shows up without being broken for repairs. They are also not responsible for the damage to my house that this machine has caused for the second time. Can anyone tell where to go from here?

My Maytag Atlantis washer (MAV8757AWQ) which we bought in 2003 started having problems with the spin cycle in 2009. I would sometimes have to repeat the rinse and spin cycle. The next problem was the loud racket the spin cycle made and the machine would sometimes seize. Then it started to leak during the spin cycle. Thanks to the input from people on this website, we were able to sort out a solution. We bought a thrust bearing kit and a triple lip seal and bearing kit. The triple lip seal and bearing replacement was a very difficult job but I think it solved the problem.

After all the hours and money ($170) we spent fixing these problems, I hope I am able to use this washer for a few more years. I am sending Whirlpool a letter with all of my bills. I read that after Maytag bought Amana, it had to cut costs so it started using cheaper parts. I will never buy any Whirlpool products or any of the other brands they own again!

I took the washer apart and found the most disgusting amount of mold and sold scum build up in all the black rubber hoses and the most mold and scum on the arm that holds the Stainless Steel drum in. We get about 5 lbs of mold and scum out. We in our family were getting sick on a regular basis. Colds and sinus problems. When relatives and our grandchildren stayed with us they also experienced sinus issues. We believe this is a direct cause from the clothes, bedding and towels being washed in this disgusting mold. They replaced the transmission and it cost us about $300 it would have been over $600 if it had not been under warranty. I purchased an extended warranty, I had a general service on it earlier this year, covered under the warranty. They replaced some gasket or rubber belt covered under the extended warranty. Next, in August/September, the same problem again this time it was the motor, it burnt out. The first appointment, they called at around 4pm after I had been waiting for them all afternoon, the usual they will be there between noon and 4pm. Well, they over booked or it took the service person too long and they couldn't make it that day and had to reschedule. Got another appointment for a couple of days later and they showed up this time.

They replaced the motor at no charge, covered under the purchased warranty. It would have cost several hundred otherwise. Ever since this was replaced I have smelt a burning plastic smell. At first, I thought it was just something burning off the new motor and would stop after it had been used a few times, it didn't. Now, it's doing it again, it won't spin the water out. This time, we had an appointment for the Monday afternoon before Thanksgiving. They again had a problem and called at around 4pm saying the service person wouldn't be there and we would need to re-schedule the appointment for a week later! I explained to them in no uncertain terms this was unacceptable and was able to get another appointment for Wednesday afternoon with a Master Tech person.

Well, that person said that it was the electronics that controlled the washer and he didn't know why they replaced the other parts and didn't replace this. He had to order the part which since it was the day before Thanksgiving wouldn't be placed until Friday. We couldn't re-schedule the appointment until the part arrived at our house! In this day and age you'd think that they would be able to know when the part would arrive since they were placing the order! We will never buy another Maytag appliance. Right now, we have the washer and dryer plus a stove, microwave and dishwasher.

The dishwasher is one of the models on the recall and that took me 4 days to report it to them. I tried online and kept getting bumped out. I called the number on the notice and kept getting transferred and then the line was dropped or it wouldn't connect to anyone. I finally called the Maytag sales customer service and they helped me get it recorded and an appointment to get it fixed.

I own a Maytag Ensignia washer and dryer. My first Ensignia washer left each load still dripping water. No matter how many times I pulled the clothes out and re-distributed them, they were still pretty wet at the end of the cycle. Maytag sent repairmen out twice in the first several months to fix the problem. Though I bought the machine partly because I needed a large-capacity washer (we have a large family), each repairman told me that I should not wash large loads in this machine and that I should not do frequent loads either. Each time, they would leave, telling me there was nothing wrong with my machine. I got so tired of having to take soggy clothes out, balance them and start the spin cycle again. My laundry was never finished until I had fiddled with it several times. It was especially upsetting because this is the loudest washer I've ever heard and I had to repeat the spin cycle over and over. When I finally called for another repair, Maytag replaced the washer with a new one.

I have the same problem with the new one, but to a lesser degree. The clothes are still pretty wet once the cycle finishes, but only when I wash towels or blankets are they still dripping water. The drive shaft broke on my washer shortly after I got the new machine. That's when we learned that the drive shaft is made of plastic. I asked the repairman at that time if that was common in high-capacity washers. He said only that I should not do large loads in this washer and that I should use it as infrequently as possible. I also asked if there was something wrong with the sound package, since the machine is billed as a quiet washer, but both of my Ensignia washers were so loud. He just shrugged and said there was nothing wrong with it.

I've also had trouble with the blades on the agitator/auger breaking off. I really try to keep my wash loads small so that they spin better, but even so, the blades have snapped off. I've replaced the agitator/auger unit twice now, spending about $80.00 each time. It's particularly galling to have to invest in a machine that is never going to spin my clothes very dry.

My Ensignia dryer has given me trouble as well. It began squeaking last year, but was still drying clothes. Finally, the squeaking became painful to hear and I started finding black streaks (they looked like lines from a black marker) on my laundry. My husband took it apart to see if he could fix it. We found that one of the stabilizing wheels had cracked and fallen off its axle. Since we don't have much faith in Maytag repairmen anymore, we ordered the part and fixed it. I've wondered if we could have avoided that problem if the clothes had not been so wet when they went from the washer into the dryer.

Honestly, I would expect that Maytag would stand behind their product for more than 1 year, and to have the same thing go bad that was already replaced within the 1st year of ownership is very discerning. Of course, when I contact Maytag, all they say is the item is out of warranty. Very disappointed that this company that I thought sold reputable products is like this.

This washer is the biggest piece of junk and a major disappointment. They have replaced the drum twice in the past eight months. When I called the ESPP a few days, they told me that they cannot do anything as long as the parts are available. I was also told that Whirlpool is no longer making this product and parts will become harder to get and may take longer. I asked to speak to a manager and I was told I would have to wait up to 30 minutes before someone got on the phone. I left my name and phone number for a call back and have not received one. I'm sure the managers are very busy trying to deal with upset Maytag consumers.

I will never buy a Maytag or Whirlpool product again and trust me, I will tell anyone that will listen the same.

I have a Maytag Neptune dryer that I purchased in mid-2005. First of all, I must state that I was never notified of any recall and now I have a defective dryer that has to have the electronic board or sensor, or both, replaced because it is stuck on "51 minutes, sensor dry". It makes a constant chirping noise that is so annoying and does not start when it is locked in that position. I was told by one repairman that I can put alcohol on a cotton ball and rub that on the sensor inside the dryer and hope that works. It actually seemed to do something for a while and then that stopped working, too. Even with the alcohol "fix", I have to keep unplugging the dryer and praying that it will start so I can finish a load of laundry.

The only way I trust it to actually complete a dry cycle is to try to do a timed dry. I am not sure if the sensor is shot or if it is the whole control board that short circuited, and my appliance repairman is not sure either. He is suggesting I replace the board and see if that works. Great! It's about $400 to start in repair costs and still not sure if that will solve the problem. I am very upset. This was supposed to be the top of the line and a big splurge for me.

I remember the days when you invested money for a washer and dryer and they actually lasted for 20 or more years! I guess those days are gone forever. I am seriously considering buying a different dryer after reading all the complaints from others experiencing similar complaints. I'm not sure if it is worth it to repair it. So frustrating!

I purchased both a Maytag Bravos "MTW6700TQ (SN CW3370131) washer and a matching dryer (MED6600TQ, SN MW3417712) as I "thought" you had the best product on the market. Our old Maytag lasted 20 years with only on service. I have owned these less than two and am getting ready to service them again. After just 380 days I had to pay to have the washer and dryer serviced. The washer started making weird noises on spinning, leaking and the pump had to be replaced, while the dryer started displaying "AF" indicating an airflow problem, even thought the vent was clean and our house new. Well I though, ok just this once, but here it is a year later and guess what, same thing is happening again with both units! I was surprised the warranty was so short, and these are such lemons. I think I will fix them then sell them. Maytag used to mean something to me. I have posted a complaint on their site.

I replaced motor and control board because I kept getting LR which I understand means locked rotor, in the motor I assume. After replacing above components, the same LR exists still. Rotating the drum after first turning off and restarting the machine sometimes works. What can I do?

We bought a Maytag compact stackable washer and dryer in 2006. The front load washer, Model MAH 2400AWW, worked very well. We never had a problem with it, and it did a good job cleaning our clothes, until the motor burned out after only four years.

We had it in our vacation house, which was occupied, on average, only six months a year. So the actual time when it was in use was even less than four years. With parts and labor, the repair is more than half the cost of a new machine, so we are stuck with replacing it. Given that the 25-year-old Whirlpool washing machine in our year-round house is still going strong, I was surprised when the Maytag failed after such a short period of time.

There must be some design or manufacturing flaw in the Maytag, or else our machine is a lemon. The Maytag electric dryer that we bought along with the washer has never worked well. It sometimes takes more than an hour and a half to dry a small load of clothes. Sometimes the clothes are not dry after the dryer shuts off at the end of the cycle; sometimes the dryer keeps going after the clothes have dried and are quite hot; sometimes when I open the door to check if the clothes are dry, the dryer resets to the beginning of the cycle, even if the clothes are almost dry.

I neglected to get a service call for the dryer during the first year, when the warranty was still in effect, and have continued to live with the problems rather than trying to have the machine repaired. Compare the poor performance of our relatively new Maytag dryer with that of the 25-year-old Whirlpool gas dryer in our year-round house that still works as well as it always has, drying a large load of clothes in less than an hour, with a built-in moisture sensor that accurately gauges when the clothes are dry and signals the dryer the correct time to shut off.

Of course, both our Whirlpool washer and dryer have required a few service calls in the 25 years that we have had them, but neither one has required a major repair in all that time. I am shocked that today's manufacturers like Maytag are allowed to market poorly performing appliances that fail in less than five years.

The same story. I bought a Maytag Legacy washer 4 years ago. And I've had it service twice. The second time, the technician tells me the transmission is shot and it's not worth fixing. I'm now in the same boat as a lot of other people I feel and know I've been ripped off. I've always trusted Maytag/whirlpool products. Never again. They need to be held responsible for the defective products they are selling everyone.

We purchased a home in March 2010 that came with a Maytag washing machine. I immediately noticed a horrible odor and what appears to be black mold on the seal inside the opening. I called customer service and explained the problem. I was told to clean out the lint that collects in the brush under the seal. I used the bleach he suggested. But the smell never went away and the mold is now very black and it is nearly impossible to be around. I just came across the information about the class action suit that was settled and had a deadline to file in 2004. Since I did not have this product until 2010, shouldn’t Maytag still be responsible for fixing this problem or replacing the machine?

I bought a Maytag epic high efficiency front load washer in 2008. The washer does not clean clothes as it should, cleaning tablets must be used in it regularly or the clothes will stink. The washer door must be left open when not in use or it will mold inside. We have had trouble with drain code in washer. We are having spin problems now. I will not waste any more money on this worthless machine. When it needs repair, I will throw it away and buy another brand of regular top load washer.
