After one year, this "famous" Neptune washing machine began to sound so noisy during the spin cycle that neighbors must have thought a 747 was taking off from our house. After researching the web, I found that the main bearing "always fails" in this machine and there is a new one-man repair industry started up across the US to just replace these bearings. In fact, someone invented a bearing puller just for this problem. I am deeply disappointed that a once fine company would knowingly put out such trash. I am replacing ours with another brand, even though we have used Maytag for 30 years. Customers always determine who wins and who loses in the long run. Bye, Maytag!

Faulty Maytag Bravos electronic dryer model MEDB400VQ0 - I purchased a new Maytag Bravos washer and dryer in Feb 2011. About 3 weeks ago, I noticed the dryer not drying my clothes. They were hot, but not dry, leaving them hot and steamy. There was also wet lint that kept accumulating inside of the dryer. I took the back off of the dryer to see if there was an obvious problem and I found the blower belt and large bolt that holds one end of the belt to be off and laying on the bottom of the dryer. I have also looked online and did a search on this make and model and the issue I was having, it brought numerous people having the same problem on multiple internet forum sites. Apparently, there is also a service bulletin on this exact issue, but according to the Maytag customer service department, "no recall". Therefore, I am out of luck as far as getting any kind of repair (unless I pay for it) because I am out of warranty by 3 weeks.
I purchased the Maytag brand thinking this was going to be the best and will last me a very long time. Unfortunately, I was wrong. It only lasted me one year without breaking down and the customer service department is horrible. You can tell they definitely don't stand by their name, the Maytag name is a thing of the past. I will never recommend this brand to anyone else for purchase and I regret having swayed my mother to purchase the very same set I did. This has been an awful experience and I am wishing I had chosen a different brand. Maytag leaves me angry and very much dissatisfied.

February 2011, I purchased a washer from Lowe's and started having problems with the washer leaking and skipping cycles on the first week. Lowe's exchanged the washer end of first week. The new washer started with not adding water in wash cycles. The repairmen sent by Maytag could not find any problem with the washer. The washer worked off and on for months with problems. Cycles with bleach added worked fine, but 3 or 4 loads later with no bleach having been added, it would produce bleach-stained clothes. The repairman came out again and could find the cause for skipping cycles, but suggested I run clean cycle every time I use bleach. It defeats the purpose of purchasing an HE water-efficient washer.
The third repairman sat and watched the unit run a load and then he said "I know what is wrong". He took the washer control panel apart and found the wire harness was not properly connected from tub to control panel. I have not found what causes bleach stains 3 loads after the bleach was put in the washer. I will not recommend this unit to anyone because of manufacturing problems with harness assembly.

The washer stopped and displayed F51. It had that growling, horrible sound like it was dying. After restarting and trying everything, including going back to Lowe's to see if a serviceman could fix it, with no luck, and father reading all the reviews on the F51 error and all of the displeased customers we divided after two years on a $900.00 machine, we would tear it apart and fix it ourselves! If possible and if not, what are we losing? Nothing! What we found was clothing between the outer casing and the drum preventing it from spinning. Unfortunately, we did not know how to get to them. With a lot of effort, we got the leggings out that was causing the drum not to spin. I am sure there is a lot more socks and a pair of fairy wings that I never found after Halloween in there.
If there is anyone out there who knows how to get the outer casing off of the drum, please let me know. After removing the tights, I no longer have the error code F51 and my washer now works. I just wanted everyone with F51 error code to know it goes away after removing the clothing that gets stuck between the drum and the outer plastic casing around the drum.

My Maytag washer and dryer (5000 Series) is about 2 years old. Just as soon as the warranty ran out, I started getting F35 and suds error messages. Information found on the internet tells me that many Maytag customers have experienced the same problem. What's up with this Maytag? Since many of your customers have experienced the same problems, are you willing to meet the consumer in the middle by repairing the product at no cost or are you building the appliances to last as long as the warranty?

The Maytag Centennial (Model MVWC6ESWW1) washer was purchased in September 2009 and within 18 months no longer provided water at the temperature selected on the control panel. The problem started after we used a spin setting to remove water from a cycle that did not complete itself. Somehow selecting a spin cycle "disturbed" the water temperature control mechanism.
We were advised by Sears to unplug and then reattach the electrical connection (similar to rebooting a computer), but this was not successful in water being delivered to the washer at the temperature indicated on the control panel. While there was minor damage to clothing and a waste of hot water before we realized what was happening, the real inconvenience is not being able to rely on the water temperature setting.
Based upon reading comments on the internet (including Consumer Reports) concerning this washer, the public should be warned not to purchase this machine. Better still the machine needs to be recalled in order to protect the consumer.

I purchased a Maytag Washing Machine in August 2010. It recently failed and the repair cost is $1,000. A brand new machine is $1,000. The old machine is essentially trash after 1 1/2 years and Maytag refuses to make any accommodation whatsoever. All I got was, "Sorry, there is nothing we can do." I attempted to move up the ranks, but was only able to talk to one level up. After that, they refused to allow any further discussion.

Our washer, still under 5 year parts and labor warranty, wasn't functioning properly. We went through proper procedure having repair personnel first attempt to repair; waited over allotted time for replacement parts, wanted to attempt to repair again, then to replace with sub-standard model. We are now in our 5th month of being told 3-5 business days, 10-14 business days, and I was just told it will be 'weeks' (after waiting 19 days) that replacement will return our call as they are 4 to 6 weeks behind. I have pages documenting dates, times, names, departments and excuses. What can I do at this point? What are my options?

I purchased this machine (Maytag washing machine model MVWB700VQ0) from Home Depot in December of 2008. When purchasing it I decided to spend a bit more money on the machine, thinking I would get a quality product. For the last two years and 5 months it has only been me and my wife in the house as the kids are in college. Hence, the washer has not been used as much as some would use it. Within the last two and one half weeks the machine started making a horrible growling noise (probably the tub bearing going bad) and then started to leak yesterday. I noticed this morning that there was a large puddle of bleach water coming from under the machine. I called Maytag, which is just a fancy name for Whirlpool, and they basically told me too bad. It is inconceivable that a machine that used to last 20-plus years barely lasted three with only two adults using it.
When I owned my previous home in another town the house came with Whirlpool appliances which literally fell apart within 5 years. I wanted to stay away from Whirlpool; however, I did not know that Maytag was owned by Whirlpool. I have received no assistance from Maytag. I am absolutely disgusted with the fact that an "American" iconic company such as Maytag is producing such garbage. I am going to be forced to figure out and fix what is wrong with the machine myself. However, I do believe this subject should be looked into further and possibly a class action law suit against Maytag for bad customer service since there seems to be quite a few people with issues surrounding this machine.

Washer is Broken After 1-1/2 Years: Yes, the code F51 has come on quite often. Now, my washer does not work at all! Does not spin out, makes thumping noises even though I have taken good care of this machine. It cost me quite a lot of money and thought that this was a wise decision. It’s broken after a year, unbelievable! Also, clothes don’t get clean. I had to wash 2 - 3 times. The clothes wrap around each other and the machine does not clean them well. It’s a horrible machine. I have not called Maytag (Whirlpool) yet as I see from the comments that they will not stand behind their machine. I don't know what to do!

Purchased in 08 for a second home, we visit every other weekend mostly in summer. I have never been pleased with the set really. It takes too long to wash/dry, clothes get tangled, dryer goes off on first buzzer, wrinkled and now, the control panel has gone out on washer and they say it is approximately $500 to fix. I have probably used it 20 times a year. I have Maytag in Lex, which I have had for 15 years, that is 100% all the way around better.

The washer worked great for the first 6 months, then it didn't dissolve the soap, it wouldn't complete the cycle, and there is a loose bolt like sound when you spin the drum. The load level is not an issue. We have had the serviceman out four times, he has called the tech support each time and they cannot resolve the issue. Maytag said sorry! Unless it does it constantly then they can't help. The control panel has been replaced and the drum has been replaced. So we keep paying the water and sewer bill to rerun the load 1/2/3 times to get it to complete the cycle. This washer was purchased last May, 2011 and they say we're stuck with it.

Maytag washer has increased my water bill; it was supposed to be energy efficient! Also, the washer will not wash a blanket. Sensors will move a large item to one side causing an uneven load which then causes numerous extra fills until stopped manually. I was told to add more items! A blanket barely fits in the tub. I had to invest in lint rollers since the rinse cycle is inefficient. This washing machine is useless. I should have stuck with Kenmore.

I purchased a product less than one year ago. The clothes are getting snagged in seam on interior of the front panel. I went back to the store and felt the same gap in the seam on the panel on a floor model, so I know it is not just my machine. I called Maytag service and a representative acknowledged the problem but also said that if there is no fix for it, I would be charged for a service call even if no part was replaced- quite a contradictory statement. She said she doubles as the Complaint Department. If this is a manufacturing defect, it should be replaced. The front panel should be recalled.

I purchased a Neptune washer/dryer front loader. All Neptune washers have basic design flaw over which the company should be sued. Since the bulk of the weight is in the front of the horizontal wash-drum, the entire assembly is suspended by a rear mounted bearing allowing the drum to spin. That bearing assembly is woefully under-designed and not able to support the unequally distributed weight that is inherent in any front load design.
Since the forces of gravity cause a loading of the rear bearing on the front of the bearing raceway only, the machine is doomed to catastrophic failure of the entire drum system--and they all do this. When the washer goes into "spin" mode, it sounds like a jet engine taking off and that is a symptom of the bearing design beginning to fail which begins on the first use of the machine. The cost of the drum assembly/bearing and the labor is far more expensive than buying a new machine and therefore, not worth it. Avoid Maytag products at all costs.

I purchased my Neptune Washer in 2005/2006. I had a mildew problem, and the store told me to clean it with bleach. It is now 6 years later, and the ball bearings are going out. I called two different repair companies, and were told by both they would save me the call out charge, because the ball bearings were going out, and it would cost between $ 600-$700 to fix, so I may as well buy a new one. The washer is only 6 years old.
This is completely unacceptable! I then tried to find someone online to fix it, and I ran into the fact that the Neptune Washers had a recall. Why was I, not notified? I bought the washer and dryer set from a Maytag store. No one tried to reach me. I am now stuck with the problem of buying a new one, and really cannot afford one at this time. I went with Maytag due to the brand name, and I knew it would be reliable. Is the joke really on me? Can someone please call me, and point me in the right direction?

I have a Maytag Neptune (model number MAH5500BWW and serial number 85981207AE). On February 22, 2012, the washer started smoking and a burn smell was apparent. Fire department was called. They pinpointed issue to the washer. On February 23, 2012, I spoke with Brenda from the Safety Department. She prioritized a diagnosis from a local certified technician. On February 24, 2012 , the technician diagnosis was "defect motor and control runs hot after load." Then Lorna from the Safety Department stated they will not cover part/labor.

I purchased a Maytag Neptune 24” front load washer (MAH2400a) and 24” electric dryer (MDE2400AYW) on October 26, 2005 from Sears in Chesterfield, MO. In April 2011, the drum in the washer began to slush and grind. Water also began pooling around the machine. I called Sears and arranged for service repairman. Before he even looked inside the washer, the repairman wanted to give me a coupon for $50.00 off a new washing machine from Sears. After my insistence, he finally opened the washer and told me I needed a new drum. Because of the Sears repairman’s reluctance to look at the machine, I had another appliance repairman review it and was told that the water pumps for this model were defective.
Any loose items the size of coins collected inside the pump and damaged it. I paid $340.00 to get the pump replaced. Ten months later, the dryer started smoking. After scheduling a service call, I was told the heating element burnt out and it would cost $360.00 to replace. It was then I noticed that the washer was leaking again. I took the front base cover off and saw mold growing under the machine. A little research uncovered that this set of machines has had many dangerous problems, from mold to catching on fire. There was a class action lawsuit filed and won by consumers in April 2005, yet I was sold this model in October 2005. I feel both Maytag and Sears knowingly sold me a defective and dangerous product. I would like to be refunded for this set.

We bought a Maytag Bravo washer and after less than 6 months of use, it stopped working with an F51 or 53 error (can't remember which because it's been a month now). After looking online, it seems that almost everyone who buys this gets this error and has to have a part replaced! And Whirlpool hasn't recalled the faulty part even though everything I've read says it should be a recall.
It's now taken over a month to get a repair person in to fix it. From the time we called Maytag, to the referral to the service person, to the service appointment, to waiting over 2 weeks for the part to come in, it's been over a month with no washer. This is unacceptable Maytag! The repair company is finally showing up tomorrow only after 3 left messages from us.
Either build a better washer or stock your replacement parts with the local repair companies and you should be reimbursing your customers who've spent a lot of money at the laundromat after spending between $700 and $900 on your washing machines.

Customer service argued with me insisting the new models are energy efficient despite the fact that it takes 4 times longer to wash a load. Machine makes load uneven then refills several times to redistribute. Rinse and spin are insufficient in some cycles causing extra dry time and excessive lint. Also, water is always left in the drum. This will cause many problems.
The new design which uses sensors, locks, and tones, is mostly useless, is time consuming, and makes doing laundry an aggravating chore that takes much longer to complete. Obviously the intention is to sell cheap models that require replacement sooner.
Phone conversation did not go well and customer service online refuses to answer questions or attempt to resolve this. Pat response is to give instructions on how to do the laundry.

I purchased the Maytag Neptune pair in 2002 and was never informed of the product recall/class action lawsuit for the washing machine which occurred sometime around 2004-2005. We have had many problems with our washing machine over the years and ruined many clothes with what appears to be bleach stains, even though no bleach was used in the cycle of wash. I had to replace the board which controls the latch on the door and the clothes that are washed are not clean and have an undesirable odor to them. I would have been part of this class action; however, I was never informed of the lawsuit. I called Maytag today and they advised I could set up an appointment with a service person; they did not want to honor my complaint as the "class action" lawsuit has been resolved and they are not handling these types of complaints anymore.
My children have started a new school after semester break and their brand new uniforms are now becoming ruined due to this defective machine that Maytag will not take responsibility for. What type of recourse do I have? I will never purchase a Maytag anything if this is how they treat their customers. Problem will not go away by hiding their head in the sand. That was three months after owning the piece of junk. I was having a bad day already, so I basically completely lost it. I'm surprised I didn't get arrested for that. We bought this washer in February of 2010. We had the pump replaced under warranty in January of 2011, and the pump appeared to have a hole in it from some type of hard object that had gotten inside the pump and damaged it. We then replaced the L-shaped hose between the tank and the pump because it had a small hole in it - very thin rubber.
This washer performs very well when it is working but it seems to be too fragile to handle on normal usage.
The Whirlpool washer we replaced with this one ran for 23 years with no problems before it finally went out. From all appearances, it seems that every failure we have had with this washer has been due to damage from foreign objects getting trapped in the pump. Is there no screening mechanism to prevent hard objects from entering the pump? This seems to be a design flaw more than anything.

I have been on the chatline with Maytag customer service for two days, trying to enforce my warranty, which expires next week. My washer flooded my kitchen over the weekend, and I contacted Maytag to schedule the repair under the warranty. First, the woman, Aisha, looked up my registration, and confirmed that I was who I said I was, that my address and phone number had not changed, and told me that according to the records, the washer was purchased on 2/7/2011. What's the problem? First, they wanted the model and serial numbers. I realized that this is important information in determining what machine needs what repairs, except there was not one sticker anywhere on my washer! Aisha said that the technician would not perform the repair, if the manufacturer did not install the model information properly on the machine.
As if I had any control over the placement, or lack thereof, of proper ID for the washer. This was followed by a request for proof of purchase. I explained that I moved, and misplaced it, but I would have it emailed to me from the original purchaser. I was told that unless she could verify the proof of purchase, and the date of purchase, she could not schedule the repair under the warranty. This is despite the fact that not 5 minutes ago, she had just read this information from her computer! I asked her why would I register someone else's washer under my name and address? She didn't care. I told her I would have the receipt emailed the next day, and she stated that regardless of the date I requested, and scheduled the repair, if the actual repair took place after the expiration date of the warranty, it still would not be covered! I told her that makes no sense. I have no control over your scheduling issues.
If you can't honor the warranty if the repair is made after the expiration date, then I need a date prior to that. I am entitled to the terms of the warranty, and intend to use them. Aisha said again that, without proper proof of purchase and purchase date, without proper tags on the washer, and if the repair takes after the expiration date, it would not be covered. I disconnected from her, and reconnected with another rep, who told me that some of the information Aisha gave was incorrect. I can schedule the repair, get the receipt and email it, or submit it through the chat, and regardless of when the repair was actually done, the warranty would still be honored. This person couldn't be sure what effect the lack of proper tags would have on that.
My third re-entry into the chat was no better. I located a copy of the receipt in my email, and contacted the chat again. An almost amazing thing happened! This woman again confirmed all of the information Aisha recited last night, and was prepared to schedule the repair, without even asking about proof of purchase. This woman, Jennifer, was willing to schedule the repair, verify that it would be covered under the warranty, even if it was after the expiration date, because I had called and arranged the appointment before the expiration date, and she was willing to have the missing manufacture tags replaced. I had to ask her three times to review the email, and confirm that I had the correct receipt for the technician. I asked if the technician in the course of repairing the washer, had to remove the drainage hose, could he either replace it with a longer one, or add an extension, because according to Lowe's at the time of installation, the hose they installed was supplied by the manufacturer, not them.
Jennifer stated that since he was only there to repair the leak, and installation is not covered under the warranty, I would have to pay for him to replace the wrong hose, with the correct hose myself, even if he removes it! I told her that she needed to ensure that the technician absolutely did not remove the drainage hose from the back of the washer during his repair, because if he removes a part that is obviously the wrong part, and then replaces the wrong part after his repair, I would file a complaint every single place I possibly could.
Why would a "repair technician" remove a part, determine that it is the wrong part, and then put it back! That is like a mechanic repairing the axle of a car, and discovering the brakes are bad, but since he is only there to repair the axle, he replaces the bad brakes after fixing the axle! He was going to be able to replace the missing manufacturer tags, though! This entire process took at least 3 hours and two days. To date, Maytag/Whirlpool is absolutely the worst company I have had to deal with, right after Sears, and ahead of AT&T. The consequences are that so far, Maytag refuses to have the technician replace the wrong hose with the correct hose, if he removes it in the course of repairing my washer.

Maytag washer manufacture changes are not worth a dime. I suspect EPA made the changes, and engineering was made by someone that has never washed a load of clothes in the entire life. There is no agitator and/or supposedly made to conserve water. Well, it saves water alright with each load. There will be a 2 foot circle in the middle of a bed sheet that doesn't get wet; the same with a sweaters. I have checked with different stores and all made the same. And heaven forbid if you dropped a sock and wanted to add it to the load with the mate. The lid locks. I am both angry and dissatisfied and will tell this same story to anyone wanting to purchase a washing machine.

We were sold a Maytag Neptune washer mah550bbw in 2004 when it was already on recall by Maytag and a class action lawsuit was filed against Maytag. We also bought an extended warranty. Now we have the same problems as the lawsuit. We own dry cleaners so we do laundry once a month for small articles. For the last few months the clothes have an odor and they come out looking not clean. We were sold a defective and recalled product and are not happy right now. We would like a fast resolution to this problem; otherwise, we seek legal actions.

I have had nothing but headaches with our washer. We purchased it 4 years ago and after using it for a few months, I took it out because our clothes came out smelly and unclean. Called Maytag and they did nothing. So we went back to a regular washing machine and put this machine in the corner of the basement. I refused to throw away a $1,100.00 machine! So this year our machine quit, so we decided to try using the machine again to save us some money instead of buying another one... Well, that lasted for only a short time. Clothes still smell, came out unclean and just yesterday, the machine stopped rinsing and spinning! This machine has barely been used and it's been nothing but trouble. Maytag service just plain sucks. They don't care about their consumers. I will never buy a Maytag again and I always let everyone I know to not buy this type of machine.

I bought a Maytag Bravos Quiet Series 300 washer just over two years ago from Home Depot. The control board and sensor went out last week. The service technician seemed rather surprised that a 'newer' machine would have that kind of non-wear-and-tear problem and suggested that I contact Maytag/Whirlpool to see if they could help offset the parts costs, as the repair was going to cost over $600! The customer service agent I spoke with said that there was nothing they could do because the item did not have an extended warranty.
I explained to her that we purchased this unit, even though it was out of our price range, because we were told that it would last a lifetime. I would have been happy if it would have just lasted 5 years! She was very detached and it was clear that Maytag/Whirlpool was not going to stand behind their product. I purchased a Maytag dryer several years ago, not a fancy one but just a plain simple dryer (model number MDE2706AYW). Thank goodness from the other complaints I have read I didn’t buy one that is computer controlled. The heating element has burned out twice, main thermostat and limit thermostat has burned out, and if you look close, it seems the wires are trying to melt or at least the insulation. Well, the insulation is melting. And the venting system is cleaned regularly so they can’t blame that. The last dryer I had lasted well over ten years with zero problems.
I should have just fixed it. I’m sure I wouldn’t have spent as much money on repairs as I have with this one. You remember that lazy Maytag repairman that was on TV for so many years, you know why you don’t see him any longer? He is at my house repairing my ** dryer! Cost is $386 for motherboard plus labor and I will not put one more cent in this piece of crap.
Listening to the salesman and consumer reports on the best washer to buy. All they are concerned with is energy savings and believe me when I say that all energy savings products are a joke because you give up operating ability for the sake of energy savings-- true of refrigerators and washers, dryers, furnaces and the like. I bought a Maytag front load washing machine. We paid $1,100 for this machine. About a month ago, it was making a loud noise. I called them and they said were going to come out and fix it. However, our washing machine did not have a serial number. It had the model number/purchase date, etc, but no serial number. Our drier had it, but not our washing machine. All Appliances stated they could not help us until we had a serial number. We spent around 3 hours on the phone with Maytag, trying to get a serial number. Melinda informed us that we were out of luck, and that there was nothing they could do for us. She stated to call Nebraska Furniture Mart, to get the serial number. We did. NFM does not keep serial numbers. They keep model numbers, and purchase dates, but not the serial number.
I called Maytag back, and spoke with Arthur. Within 10 minutes, he gave me a serial number to use. Interesting. In the meantime, I have been without a washing machine for 2 days. I have a load of wash in the machine, because now the wash machine has gotten so bad it is shorting the breaker, and not allowing electricity to the machine. This caused the front door to lock and shut down. Inside the washing machine is a load of clothes. All Appliances now has the serial number to order the parts. The parts were supposed to be here yesterday, Jan. 9th. Surprise, they are on back order until Jan. 13th. I called Maytag to see what they could do regarding me without a washing machine for over 5 days, which could turn into 2 weeks. They simply replied that it takes time to order parts, and there is nothing they can do and apologized. I asked what about me having to go to a laundromat and sit for hours, doing laundry. What about sending me out a "loaner", to do laundry until you can get the parts. They again replied; there is nothing they can do.
I also stated I spent $1,100 for this front load top of the line, Maytag washing machine, because of its name, and supposedly good quality. They again said there was nothing they could do. They did tell me that the washing tub, the part that we needed, was on back order until January 28th. This puts me at about a month without a washing machine. They stated they would try and locate the part, and have it sent out to my house, not the appliance company that is supposed to fix it, but my house, so that once I did receive it, I could call All Appliances, and set up the time/fixing of the machine. This has been pure hell! Maytag is a joke. I paid a good price for a supposedly good company/machine. They are doing nothing to expedite the parts. They are doing nothing to back their products. They are not even offering compensation for my inconvenience of having to go to a laundromat, or being without a washing machine for over a week, and potentially up to a month.
I have been without a washing machine for over a week. I have had a load of laundry locked in the washing machine. I have had to drive to a laundromat to do laundry, which includes time and mileage. I have been informed that the parts are on back order, and now could be up to a month without a washing machine. Maytag is not offering any compensation, no "loaner" machine, no replacement. Instead, they are just saying, "sorry, you have to wait for the parts". I would really like the VPs. and Presidents of Maytag to go without a washing machine for a week, or their families to go without a washing machine for a week, possibly a month, and see what they have to say about that company.

We bought a Maytag Neptune front loading washer from Ben's Maytag in Surrey four years ago and it has been nothing but trouble. There is no screen in the machine to prevent small things (like coins, screws) from going behind the rubber seal and into the pump. As a result, coins frequently block off the outflow to the pump so the machine doesn't drain.
We have had to pay for service calls more times than we can count, and have spent more than original price of the machine making repairs and replacing the pump. We now have learned to take off the hoses and open the pump to remove coins ourselves, which we have to do every few weeks!
Ben's Maytag tells us that it's our fault for letting coins go in the wash. There is no accountability for the faulty design of the machine that allows this to happen. We should have cut out losses and thrown this piece of junk out three years ago. We want Maytag to take responsibility for the faulty design of this product and to credit at least our purchase price toward another machine that works properly!

We purchased a Maytag Bravo Washer and Dryer in late 2007. We had a one-year warranty on the set. At just over 2 years, we started having problems with the washer. It started making a loud noise when spinning and started beeping all the time during the cycles. We contacted Maytag and they said the only thing they could do for us was to sell us an extended/repair warranty for $320.00. If the cost of fixing the machine was too much, they had the option to replace it with another machine equal to the value of the machine in today's market, or cash, or a gift card equal to that.
We were angry about the cost of the warranty and we were unemployed at the time and couldn't afford that so we just had to let it go. The machine progressively got worse where only two of the cycles would work, but not without beeping several times where you had to fix the load, and the sound got so loud it sounded like you had a jet plane just overhead. Just the other day it completely quit working. We have been in contact with Maytag several times but their only answer is their repair warranty. We've talked to numerous appliance repairman, who all knew exactly what was wrong because they have seen it so many times, and they told us that we have several things going wrong with the machine we would probably need a new drum, a new drain pump and a new control board.
We were told that it would cost more to just buy the parts than it would be to buy a new machine. In the course of our phone calls to Maytag, they have continually told us that they are sorry but there is nothing they can do, in fact they only have record of two of our calls (how convenient!). Since experiencing the issues with the machine, we have researched it online and found that scores of consumers are dealing with the exact same problems we are having which shows that there are defects in the manufacturing of these machines. Maytag should be forced to fix these problems. They are well aware of them and they should have to back up their products.
There should be a class action lawsuit out against them. We were told by an appliance repairman that Whirlpool (who bought out Maytag) has a washer called Cabrio that is the exact same model as the Bravo and that they do have a class action lawsuit out against this model. Consumers that purchased the Bravo should be included in that lawsuit. I am stuck with a broken down washer, mildewing clothes and don't know where to turn outside of paying out the money for the extended warranty with no guarantee of what we would get out of it, purchasing a used set with no guarantee, or putting out the expense for a new set.
This set was an expense set and we went with Maytag because they used to have a good reputation, but we feel like we have been totally cheated. If the appliance companies were forced to offer a longer warranty on their products, they would have to manufacture them at a higher standard. For the cost of these new machines this is exactly what we as consumers should expect. Please help us to know which direction to go. Even with purchasing a new machine we are apprehensive!

My question to you, since when is rust in the inside of a washing machine a cosmetic issue? Are you aware of this issue? Do you as the CEO believe this is what is acceptable for a Maytag washing machine? I firmly suspect this issue is beyond my washer based on my research with various stores and sales people. They are telling me I am not the first with this issue, non-Lowe's stores. I was told on Black Friday that my machine required both baskets and the rotary motor.
My machine is just 4/5 years old. No unusual wear and tear. There are only three people in my family and we live in a fairly warm climate so no heavy winter clothing, etc. I was told that my stainless steel basket was rusting to my plastic basket. Now it's November 2011 and the element is out again. Maytag is sending a service man, of course I have to wait until Monday, I am now inconvenienced 2 times in a year.
There's also what appears to be a burn mark on the back of the drum. Two years ago, I paid more than $400.00 for this thing and when it does work, you have to run it over and over again to dry your clothes. Wow! really energy efficient. What a piece of junk! I had my old dryer 10 years before an element went out. I did buy the Lowe's protection plan that was sold with a No Lemon Policy. "If the product requires more than 3 repairs for the same failure, they'll replace it", it says in the front of the brochure.
In the small print on the back, it states 3 repairs for the same failure in one year. These companies are making money off us consumers who buy Maytag because of the name and what is supposed to be quality, and are ripped off by these insurance programs that say one thing but another in the small print. Big business is nothing more than robbers who get away with robbing the hardworking American people. When is it going to stop?

I purchased this washer in 2010. It has broken 4 times since purchase for the same reason. I was told by the appliance repairperson (which Maytag referred me to last time it broke on 03-11-11) that the manufacturer does not replace the machine until after it has broken down a 4th time. Now, the warranty has expired (in 09-11), and it has broken down again for the same problem - water won't fill. Sherry at call center informed me my machine does not qualify for replacement. Then, she would not give me a number or contact info for corporate office so I could forward my complaint. This machine is only slightly over a year old. I have had nothing but problems with it. I want a new machine, or at least unlimited repairs for the recurring problem. And I should not have to pay for a warranty that costs almost as much as the machine itself when I've already paid for the machine, and at least an equal amount to the cost of the washer in repair bills just to keep this lemon on the road. I want a number and a name for someone that will listen. I may be part of the shrinking middle class, but I am a customer, and I should be treated right. Please help me.

We bought the Bravo washer and dryer in 10/2009. Since then the dryer has never worked well. We've had at least 8 service calls on same and the sensor doesn't work, i.e. says the clothes are dry when they aren't and we always have to run them through at least two-timed cycles to make them completely dry. The washer is another nightmare. At least 8 service calls as we'll, and after one where the motor was replaced, it 'popped off' and flooded my entire house.
They laundry room is located on the second floor. I had to replace floors, walls, ceiling, light fixtures, etc. Insurance covered it but it never should've happened. Now the washer doesn't drain properly and the error code LD displays every load and we must manually drain it by either setting an extra drain cycle or take the entire machine apart and vacuum out the water. Each load takes twice the amount of time it should, if not more. But I guess it's okay because the dryer takes just as long to dry a load of clothes.
Something has to be done. Maytag is refusing to stand behind their products and it seems as though many of the complaints are for the same issues. Is there a lemon law for household appliances?

This is not a complaint but a love-letter. I know that today's "Maytag Neptune" is not the Maytag of old. But I'm here to report that I'm still using a Maytag washer that was built in 1982! The only thing "wrong" with my machine is that it occasionally goes off-balance when I wash heavy towels or blankets. Note: We "inherited" this machine with the purchase of a home in 1991. We were a family of 6, so this machine has done many heavy loads! I'm looking forward to celebrating my Maytag's 30th birthday, come Jan. 1, 2012. And I would love advice on how to replace it, eventually, with another machine that has "just the basics" - no bells and whistles, computerized control panels, etc.

I agree with everyone else on here. I would give this Maytag Neptune washer less than 1 star if I could. I also purchased this washer 5 years ago when I bought a new house. According to their commercials, the Maytag repairman is bored because their products are so great. I believe it is because the cost to fix their merchandise when it breaks costs so much.
I had a 5-year warranty on my purchase and this washer started making this awful noise but the company wouldn't repair it because it was not broken. However, here I am less than 5 months later, and the bearings are so bad, the tube is scraping and falling apart and leaving plastic pieces in my clothes. I have a 3 year old I don't need plastic pieces in my clothes. You know my husband just left me and I do not have the money to spend on the repair ($500-700) nor have the money to spend on a new washer. Thanks Maytag for your great and wonderful service!

We called Home Depot, we got the runaround and I think Maytag sent someone out. When he tipped the washing machine over, a belt was off. He said "it happens." The next year, something else went wrong with the washing machine (not under warranty anymore) and I paid $129 for that visit. Three weeks ago, the spin dry quit doing a good job on the extended spin cycle. Tonight, I put a load of clothes in and though the washer sounded like it was agitating the clothes, when I lifted the top I saw it was just noise, no agitating. I cannot afford the service call, let alone the whole repair or a new washer.

Since no one stocks the parts because it is such a joke, some repair places won't even consider repairing a Neptune. Seems like since the company stopped making them because of the problems they have, as a minimum they should replace all Neptune washers that have been sold with a reliable washer, front loading in the same price range. We lost our home in a tornado in 2005 and had to buy all new appliances. So, I bought a Maytag Neptune front load washer and dryer. It was my 1st ever. I will never buy another Maytag appliance again. Just at the end of the 5th year going into the 6th year, the bearings started to go. So, I checked with the place where we bought it and was told how expensive it would be to fix. It was anywhere between $500.00 and $700.00. Well, that's crazy. I therefore e-mailed Maytag numerous times and was thanked for my complaint. But they offered no help with this matter.
If they don't back their stuff at all, why would I want to buy their stuff? They could have at least offered to help with it. There are only 2 people living in this house and there is no excuse why that washer should start failing already. If I thought it was worth it, I would load it up and drop it off at a Maytag store and leave it there. It still runs. But it makes an awful noise and we are just waiting for it to crap out. I am going to try to sell it for as much as I can get out of it, hopefully before it completely stops. Maybe some fix-it guy would want it. We'll tell him what's wrong and they can fix it and sell it to some other poor person. I lost my job in January. Therefore, I can't afford that much to fix it. So, I will now have to try to find something used, because Maytag does not back their stuff. I would rate this machine lower if I could, but that wasn't an option.

So, it wasn't hard to buy a Samsung front loader and have the miserable Maytag hauled away to wherever badly designed machines go. We have had factory authorized repair firms (tried several) attempt to fix the problem both during the original warranty and extended warranty periods. They replaced the "mother board" twice and the moisture sensor on another occasion. All to no avail. Maytag has been worse than useless in the whole situation, and now will do nothing. It seems our only choice is to live with it, keep replacing parts, hasn't helped yet", or buy a new dryer. You can bet it will not be a Maytag!

The 3rd time it happened was close to the end of the warranty and the tech could not make it out before the warranty date. When he did show up, they wanted to charge us. I wound up putting the part in myself. Two months later, the 'suds' alarm came on, which caused the water valve to open. The pump kicked out and the water valve stayed on flooding my basement and the electronics in the washer. This happened twice. The second time was a week ago and I tossed the ** out to the curb. A few months later, the circuit board went again, and it was conveniently for Maytag now out of warranty. The repair man told us that their company never carried these washers because from the get go they had a ton of problems. He said that the odds of it breaking again were great and that we would be better off putting the money into a new washer.
I don't understand how the company, in good conscience, could continue to sell a product to consumers that they knew was faulty. It was not a cheap washer and I have never been so disappointed in my life. Then most recently, the washer's been shutting off mid-cycle through normal wash setting. I used to pound the washer out of frustration, and that seemed to get the machine working, but now it doesn't work at all. We had a repairman come out, and he charged us $94 to basically remove debris from the drain hose, and he told us that if the washer fails again, we'd be looking at an expensive repair cost pertaining to the central control unit.
We had a second repairman come out and replace the central control unit. It worked while he was here, but now it's messing up again, shutting down mid-cycle. I have to unplug the washer for hours, replug, put it on rapid wash cycle (and hope it doesn't fail), and if it fails, then unplug, wait, put it on spin cycle...
It's aggravating, and we're looking at $300 to $400 in repair costs. Our repair man says front loaders are a nightmare (and he still has his non-HE washer from the '80s, and it's still working). Our washer is Maytag Epic Z, model number MHWZ600TE00. Avoid front loaders, and definitely Maytag or Whirlpool front loaders. I have the Maytag Bravos washer and dryer. The machine has broken several times every year, and every year, Maytag makes me feel like it is my fault. They built a machine, and they do not stand behind it. And I cannot get a local machinist to work on it. I have asked Maytag to replace it from the start, and they refused, telling me "it's out of warranty." The only thing out of warranty is the frame--all parts are new. Here is the history:
On 1/04/2008, I purchased it from Home Depot, and it cost $815. Then in 4/2009, there was an F51 code, and Maytag replaced the mother board after long hold times and much pleading to help me. They said they could do nothing, because it was out of warranty. It took manager to manager to manager to get the agreement to extend the warranty. (I then found that this was a regular Maytag issue.)
From 9/2010 to 10/2010, an ld code occurred. The approved Maytag scheduled service had to come out 4 different times to attempt to fix the issue. One time, they said it was broken wires for the drain pump. The next, it was off balance; and the next, it was a sensor. Then the next time, they replaced the mother board again, and again after much argument that the part was less than a year old. Each time, they get more and more difficult to deal with and made me feel more and more like I am asking them for something unreasonable. The service guys said the washer was like new.... All new parts and I would never have a problem again. It cost $80 after argument, and Maytag covered the parts.
Last 2/2011, problems include a fast spin, ld code, and off balance; and it stopped working. It needed new suspension rods which cost $250. Maytag paid nothing. Then in 8/2011, ld code started again, and I would have to turn off to drain and then restart to spin. Maytag called in a service call, and they never showed up. Every time, they said they read over my file and that there's nothing they can do to help me. And no one else for me to speak to.
In 10/2011, the ld code came on permanently. The Maytag call I made this time again said there was nothing they could do to help me.
I am so frustrated; I don't know what to do next. I threw away an older set working washer and dryer, thinking I made a great decision to upgrade to this new set. Now my family of 5 cannot wash our clothes. No one will work on the washers locally, and Maytag treats me like I'm complaining for nothing and I should just spend endless dollars to fix this machine. And I'm at a loss. I had to get a part for the dryer the other day, and the parts store person told me that this washer is one of Maytag's mistakes. if that is so, why won't they help me?

There is no lint collector and after about 8 years of using this washer, the old lint is in the bottom of my washer after every wash. Now, I have to deal with the thing coming to a screeching stop, not spinning out the water after the wash cycle. Now tonight, I went downstairs and found water on the floor, it’s leaking. My question is to call and get it repaired or not waste my money and go buy another brand. I may go with the latter.

Maytag suggested having it serviced by A&E, but I see on the Internet that they are probably not the best choice (very bad reviews). We called our local Maytag dealer, and they said that there is no fix available. They just stink. We will buy a new washer and will never buy anything Maytag again. I called Brothers Main, they sent a service person who identified right away that it was a known problem and he had over 6 repairs already, but be prepared to wait up to 3 months for the replacement parts. This is ridiculous. The service center, you can never get through to them and when you do, they don't seem to care. I purchased the Maytag Atlantis Washer and dryer in 2004. I had the washer transmission replaced in 2006, I believe. For about a year now, the washer makes an awful screeching noise. I am not sure if it's towards the end of the spin cycle or the rinse cycle, or both. In addition (and over the last 3-4 years), the dial sticks or stalls every delicate cycle. It will stop during the initial agitating and all you can hear is a ticking noise, in which you then have to manually give the dial a slight turn for the cycle to continue. It does it once on the light delicate and twice on the normal delicate. It really is a shame that Maytag is not acknowledging all of these problems as it is not feasible for most people to have a spare $1500 kicking around for a new washer and dryer every time they unfortunately buy a lemon. My previous washer and dryer were 25 years old and still working perfectly when I decided to part with them because they were fairly small. I don't even ever recall having any issues with either one of them in the whole 25 years that I had them. To see all of these complaints makes me more irritated with my appliances and my selection!

I purchased a Maytag Legacy Series Quiet Series 300 in early July 2010. They offered me a small sum of money towards the purchase of a much more expensive dishwasher which I declined since I'd only had the dishwasher a few months at the most. It is now the end of August 2011, a month past their factory warranty. The dishwasher did not get my dishes clean, made awful grinding noises and three days ago, it refused to drain and then spewed 50 or more gallons of water all over my kitchen which then leaked into the basement.
The repairman charged $85 to tell me that the computer in the control panel had burned out and was not fixable. I think I paid somewhere in the region of $500 for this machine. My last dishwasher lasted about ten years. This is completely unacceptable. In searching the internet, I found hundreds, if not thousands of identical complaints. Clearly, this machine is a lemon and Maytag should be forced to replace it or better yet, refund the money spent to purchase the machine. Plus, pay for my valuable time spent mopping up water, washing dishes by hand, searching the internet for probable cause and potential solutions, waiting for Maytag/Home Depot to respond to my inquiries and a large sum for general annoyance. Maytag had a reputation of reliability (emphasis on "had"). They've got some slick ads but they do not stand behind their products at all. I purchased an Atlantis washer in 2005 and assumed that Maytag was still one of the better manufacturers. How naive of me!
What genius at Maytag thought it was a good idea to place the water filter inside the washer? Not only can you not keep the filter clean so that cold water will flow properly, even worse, if the filter completely clogs, the water will not stop filling into the tub which could, of course cause an overfill and flood. I narrowly escaped this scenario once. No one should have to stand and watch their machine fill with water to insure it stops. Now the machine is causing a grinding noise when agitating. I expect it to stop working any day. I will not buy another Maytag or Whirlpool, who of course now owns Maytag. And I will not pay another repair bill for the filter or any other part. The brand was once considered the best in America, now it's just another brand that's a piece of junk produced in another country.

In 2007, we bought a Maytag Neptune Washer Dryer Combo from Lowes. By 2008, the washer started stopping operation at every rinse setting, requiring someone to constantly monitor the machine to assure that the button was pushed to fulfill the entire cycle. We called a repair company and were told that the machine was shutting down because the screen in the water intake was getting clogged with debris and was making the machine feel that the water was shutting off. Thus, according to the repair man, the machine was shutting itself off. He showed me how to clean the screens in the intake line and charged me about $150 for the service call. Within a week the machine was doing the same thing again. I pulled out the screens and they were clean. We continued to "watch over" the washer whenever it was doing the wash and continued to push the button to restart the machine. We live in a very rural area and there are really no repair services available without paying enormous fees just to get them to make a call and the wait is often more than a week.
Shortly after the intake incomplete cycle problem, the washing machine stopped getting the water out of the clothes in the spin cycle, forcing us to wring out the clothes before putting them in the dryer. Then we noticed that the washer was leaking from the bottom rear all over our hardwood flooring. We went out and bought a new washer dryer based on reading consumer reports.
The cost to replace this piece of crap from Maytag was in excess of $1600. We are only in this house part of the year so this Maytag product not only did not work very well over the short time that we owned it, but it was only being used for a few months out of the year. We have since learned that there was a class action suit over this product line and would like to know how to join the suit. We are so far out in the woods that we will not get our new washer / dryer until some 2 weeks out from our purchase. We have spent nearly $3,000 since 2008 on washer dryers, an average of $1,000 a year.

I share the complaints of others about the Maytag Bravos washer (model MVWB300WQO), which I purchased in October of 2009.
Besides being overpriced, it's a washer that doesn't soak clothes, develops a bad odor, has silly things like unnecessary lights and music, and you can't add an item once the wash cycle has begun without the cycle starting over from the beginning. It also leaves washed items in twisted wads and the lid locks so you can't see what's going on inside. In addition, it damages items. I'll have to replace a full-sized blanket that it recently destroyed and now I can't trust that it'll wash things safely, which is a problem.
The person I spoke with at the company's customer service department simply said that I should've used the bulky item option instead of the regular cycle. I explained that I'd used the bulky item cycle before and the same thing happened. The washer leaves larger items stretched very tightly across the tub and I suspect that is how my lightweight cotton blanket was destroyed. She offered to schedule someone to service the washer. But it's not broken, it's a poor design, so sending someone here would be a waste of time.

I purchased a Bravo Washer and Dryer from Home Depot. The Maytag Bravo washer and dryer we purchased from Home Depot did not work from the beginning. Before I called Maytag, I tried for several months to redo the way I was loading the washer and dryer.
I tried several different settings however, the clothing keeps coming out smelling like it is still worn. Spots are in the clothing that normally comes out with a washing (with my prior washer). The clothing just does not get cleaned and it gets so tangled that it has ruined some of my clothing. There is clumping of the detergent, even though not a lot has been used.
I had the repair company come out three times for both the washer and the dryer. They have checked and no errors codes where found. One gentleman told me again to redo the way I load the washer and the dryer. I have done it so many times, but I tried again and even purchased little dryer balls. It made no difference.
I called Maytag again and was told they would have to have another company come in and do a second opinion. The person came and said that he agreed that the washer should be able to wash and the dryer should be working correctly. He recommended that a possible problem with the motherboard for the dryer (which was a possible problem mentioned by visit #2) could be handled, but he had to have it approved. He would check with the company and get back to me.
I received a call the next day and a message was left telling me there is nothing he can do with the washer. He was told by Maytag/Whirlpool that I should only fill the tub lightly and not pack it down (I told everyone how I load and I never pack my clothing down). The washer should, when loaded with wet clothing, be only 1/3 to full otherwise it decreases the wash ability dramatically.
The problem of the siphoning action for the softener section of the washer should be handled by running boiling water through the tube to loosen up the wax portion of the softener. The possible correction for the dryer exchanging the motherboard (it could be set incorrectly) was turned down by saying that the dryer is running to Maytag/Whirlpool’s satisfaction and nothing else would be done, since there are no error codes for both washer and dryer.
My towels have a mildew odor to them when they are used. They have to be washed twice and run through the dryer a long time before I can put them away. I purchased a high capacity washer and dryer and I am told now not to fill it more then 1/2 full. That is not what I was told by the person selling it. Otherwise, I would not have purchased this set at all.

I asked to speak with someone higher and was told she is the highest it could go. I requested the address for the executive office, it was given to me. Service was rescheduled now with A&E for 7/6 and an additional 1 year service agreement. My concern is this will continue to be an issue with this washing machine.

I bought a Maytag Bravo Washer and Dryer two years ago last May. The wash does not put in enough water to wash the clothes well. Yesterday, I added about 6 gallons of water and it washed fine. When I called Whirlpool/Maytag, all they could tell me is that was the way it was designed. I said there is something wrong with a design if it is an automatic washing machine and it will not wash clothes. Clothes that still smelled, spots, had to turn blankets over and wash again.

Now, I get a call from Zielges where I bought it from stating my washer needed a new motor and motorboard that would cost for part only $415. They suggest I call the main company. D/T was bought in 2007 and see maybe they could help with the price. When I called, the only answer I got was that the warranty is off and there's nothing they can do. I understand the warranty is off but this machine coast $700 and the part will cost $415.
When I bought this Maytag, it was built to last. So what happened? This is unfair to pay $700 new and four years later spend more to fix it. I can't afford to fix it or buy a new one with the recession now. I have to go to laundry center. I'm very upset and frustrated with the company. Maytag has always been a better brand. All I wanted was part of the cost of a new motor and motorboard.

Maytag dryer model MEDC300X - I bought a new dryer from Lowe's. The first time I used it, it snagged all my towels which were brand new. I determined the sensor had a sharp edge on it, thus the snagging. It was repaired and the sensor replaced. I emailed Maytag and was told their warranty does not cover this. It was delivered defective. It didn't happen after using it for years. I can see that, but it was brand new. I sent a UPS package with pictures, a letter explaining, the service slip, even the threads I had to cut off my towels. I emailed them yesterday to see why I had not heard from them yet. I sent my letter on May 27, 2011. She said there was nothing they could do and she offered me $50. Those towels cost me $168.00 (without tax). It seems a small amount to pay to keep customer satisfaction, which is also good advertising for the company. Now, I have nothing good to say about Maytag.

I purchased a washer (Maytag Legacy Series); and at the same day, it would not wash. A repairman came out; and it was the transmission. I should have sent it back at that point. After the repairman removed the new/old transmission and replaced it, it worked fine. Then about 11 months later, it started leaking. I kept thinking it was my water hoses or the water spigots coming from the wall.
After another 5 or so washes, and a couple of more weeks, with my husband and I looking and feeling and watching, I discovered it wasn't a leak from the spigot or a back-up in my wall or my water faucets nor lint build up. It was indeed the washer. I sat it in the garage and it's still sitting there. My laundry room is on the third floor of my tri-level home; water leaked all through my ceilings. What a waste of money. No, I did not purchase an extended warranty, so I was out of luck; and it was just a few days past the one year point. We had no warranty and we were out of money, stuck with a new piece of junk. In September 2009, I purchased a Maytag Bravos, Model # MVWB850WQ0. From the start I had problems getting clothes clean on the Hand Wash cycle, sheets, and blankets wading and the machine becoming unbalanced. I now wash most our clothes on Bulky to get them clean. This week error code F-36 showed up. So far three times and worse each time.
I did not purchase the extended warranty as I was spending close to a $1000.00 for a quality product and have found they are usually a waste of good money. I have contacted Maytag this week, twice. Their response is pretty much, you should have bought the extended warranty, we cannot help you. Oh, but you are a valued customer!
After looking through comments on many sites, it seems lots of people have problems getting their clothes clean and have error code F-36. It appears Whirlpool-Maytag has built a product with lots of problems and is not going to stand behind it. Anyone else feels ripped off?

We purchased a brand new Maytag washer in September 2010 from Home Depot. We also purchased the extended warranty since we plan on keeping our appliances for as long as possible. It worked fine for about 5 months. The spin cycle gradually began to get louder and louder until it became virtually impossible to hear anyone talk over the noise.
I contacted Whirlpool/Maytag and scheduled an appointment under the 1 year manufacturer's warranty. The warranty repair company came out, spent about one minute checking out the spin cycle, and knew exactly what the problem was. It is apparently a common issue, and the entire tub, as well as 2 other parts, must be replaced. As it turns out, one of the parts is on backorder and the scheduled shipping date is July 1. Of course, this may be bumped back as well.
In the meantime, my washer continues to get louder and louder and now, it sounds like parts are coming off. I honestly do not believe that it will work for the next 3 weeks while I wait for parts. I have a family of 6 and having clothes to wash every single day. The part about this that is the most ridiculous? It is going to cost Whirlpool/Maytag over $1,000 to repair a washer that cost us $750. If I cannot get this resolved quickly, I will never buy a Whirlpool appliance again.

Sometimes it stops because it thinks the clothes are dry; other times it just keeps running and I realize it has been too long which makes me afraid to leave the house with it running.
My real complaint is the washer. It does not get clothes clean. I'm washing things three times and it's really hard on the clothes and me. It's physically taxing because the clothes are tangled and wadded. I bought a top loader because I thought it would be easier on my back. I am now unloading, untangling, shaking out wet clothes then reloading them again and again just to get them clean. You can actually see clean/ dirty streaks on light-colored items. I've taken the suggestions from customer service and the owner's manual. I've had the machine leveled twice. It goes out of balance frequently. Every time you wash pants because they get so tangled it drags them into a ball and the weight becomes lopsided.
I have tried all different settings as suggested. I have tried loading the clothes differently ( like folding pant legs and shirt sleeves in) but nothing helps.

We purchased A Maytag Neptune front load washer & dryer soon after they came out 1/2000. Sometime after it began making a horrible racket. It did that for a long time. I bought the extended warranty and had a serviceman come out. It was a bearing that was going. The entire drum & casing had to be replaced. It took 2 guys a couple of hours to do it once they got the parts in one piece. They seem to come broken quite frequently. That repair cost the repair co. more than they were paid by Maytag. It was well over $1000. I was lucky to have the insurance. Now here we are again having problems that the washer stops mid cycle & I have to babysit it and if it stopped, simply push the on button again & again & again as long as it takes to get it to finish. It washes & rinses everything fine. Clothes are clean & spun out nicely. The washer sometimes gets very noisy. The dryer has never given us one bit of trouble.
We also had to contact Maytag for the moldy odor. They gave us a brush with some detergent to clean it out. My husband cleans it periodically now so it stays fresh. My other option was a coupon for a few hundred bucks toward a new machine. I didn't have money to go and pay the other hundreds of dollars to go with the few measly dollars they offered me to buy a new machine. I was pretty lucky that my machine is now over 11 yrs old & when it started acting up again we decided it was time to let it die. We just went out & purchased a new Maytag MHW6000XW 4.3 cu. ft. front load washer & MGD6000XW 7.4 cu. ft. gas dryer with the steam. They will haul away my washer & set my dryer out in my garage. I will sell that on Craigslist.
I have a Maytag dishwasher that I have had for over 11 yrs also with only one problem and that was a recall & they came & changed that part out. No problem. I hope I am not making a mistake by buying this machine. I am excited to have the steam dryer & the Extra Heavy Duty washer so that I can wash my king size blankets & comforters. Had to go to the laundromat with the Neptune. They were way too small for that king size stuff. Just a note to everyone with a High Efficiency Washer!!! Make sure you are only using the High Efficiency (HE) laundry detergent in your machine. Save yourself the money by saving detergent and it is much easier on your machine & clothes.

I just needed a large machine to do my growing family's laundry without being home all day to do it.
We were not having issues with it until today, 1 May 2011, when I hear a noise coming from the washer like my clothes were trying to fight their way out of the wash. When I looked, I thought it was just off balance and I rearranged the laundry. It was fine for a bit to only start again. So, I propped the lid open and watched it during the spin cycle. I purchased a new Maytag washer six months ago and it broke on 2/11/11. I called the 1-800 number for Maytag to have it repaired as it was still under warranty on 2/12/11. They were closed and I could not report it until 2/14/11, a Monday. That day, they scheduled a repair for the first available, which was Tuesday, 2/15/11, with Shelton Service Co. in Tulsa. They came out on 2/15/11 and said that they needed to order a part which was a new control panel as the one on it had gone out after six months. They were supposed to come out on Saturday as that would give them time to get the part in and install it. They also wanted me to have someone to help them move the dryer off the top of the washer as they were stackable and I had paid extra to have it installed on top of the washer.
My husband and I were not able to lift the dryer so we asked the company if they could hire someone to help them. They said that they could not. I told them that I would ask my adult sons to help but they could not take off work--but they were off on Saturday. This is why the repairman said that he could come out on Saturday so that my sons could help him lift the dryer off the washer to repair it. On Saturday, 2/19/11, the repair company called and said that the part (from Dallas, TX, they said) did not come in and they would have to reschedule. They rescheduled for Wednesday, 2/23/11, as they said that was the soonest that they could reschedule for.
That morning of 2/23/11, the repairman said that he needed for our sons to be there to lift the dryer off the washer and he scheduled us for the last appointment of the day so that our sons could come after work at 5:00. He came at 6:00 PM, and installed the new control panel. It did not repair the washer. At this point, the washing machine had water standing in it for a week and a half. When he got the door open, it smelled so bad it took your breath away. I asked him to drain the water. He could not because the new part would not fix it. He said that he needed to call the Maytag tech line and they were closed at that time. But he would call us the following day, 2/23/11, and would come back out and fix it.
He did not call back by 2:00 PM the following day so I called him on his cell phone as he had given it to me. He said that he was in Bartlesville, OK, and was going to call me when he got back to town. He said that the Tech line told him that the control panel, the new part he had installed, must be defective! (I purchased a Maytag brand specifically and paid more for it because I thought that they had dependable products. Now, the new part is defective as well as the original part on the washer. Do they not test the parts before they send them out?) He said that he had ordered a new part from Dallas just like the one he had installed and that it would not take a very long time to come in. He thought that he would have it by Friday, 2/25/11, and he would put us on his schedule so that we would not have to wait any longer and could repair it by then.
The afternoon of Friday, 2/25/11, I began calling the repairman on his cell phone as I had contacted him by that number previously. I only got his voice mail and left him three messages to call me and let me know what was going on with my repair. He did not call back on either of the three messages. Today, Monday, 2/28/11, I called the 1-800 number for Maytag repair and told them that I wanted them to send someone out today to repair my washer. This is the most expensive washer they make. It is a front loader with steam. They offered to send out a different company to repair it but they could not come out until Tuesday, 3/1/11. They could not guarantee that the new company would not have to order the part and it would take longer.
At this point, this washing machine has been sitting in my house full of dirty stinky water and my whole house smells! In addition to that, it is molding the washing machine so that if they are ever able to repair it, it will have mold in it and cause the clothing to stink. I asked Maytag to bring me another washing machine or fix that one today. I do not think that I was being unreasonable. They would not do it, but offered to extend my warranty for six more months. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was transferred to one. She called Shelton service company in Tulsa and was told that they had not ordered the part until Friday, 2/25/11, even though the previous one had failed to fix the washer on 2/23/11.
She then told me that when the repair company got the part, they would come out on Monday, 3/7/11, to install it and that was the soonest that they could come out. I again asked for them to replace the washer. She said that they could not and again, offered to extend the warranty for six more months. I am worried that this machine is a lemon since they tried to repair it and the brand new part was defective. I am not sure that it was defective, but I think that they are just telling me that because they do not know how to fix it. Even if they do repair it, the awful smell will never come out of this. They refused to do anything. I want to know about the lemon law in Oklahoma. Is there anything you can do to help me or do I have to hire an attorney?

We have been putting up with these problems for years. Recently, the washer flooded our laundry room. I inspected the door and the drum abraded through the plastic in the door, causing all the door water to leak on the floor. I called Maytag and of course, they were of no help. This is obviously a design flaw and potentially a new problem with this series of washers. I recommend those who have the Neptune model to inspect the under surface of the door as this may be worn. This is more of a product complaint regarding the Maytag Bravos washers/dryers. I purchased the set in the summer of 2010 after a fairly extensive product review online. I guess I should have given more weight to the individuals who indicated the issues with the product. Because the majority of the reviews were positive or mostly positive, I went with this product. However, some of the reviews I read indicated that the washer was rough on clothes (I agree) and that the washer balled up the clothes into tight wads producing many wrinkles (it does).
Some of the reviews also indicated that the dryer takes a long time to dry (it does) and that it does not get out the wrinkles that the washer causes. Unfortunately, though the pair may be energy/water efficient, I wish I could get my old washer and dryer back. This pair is such a huge disappointment and not worth the substantial expense (at $1,700) compared to an average washer and dryer. Since I kept my old pair for 14+ years, I will probably resign myself to being stuck with these machines for some time to come. My suggestion is try another make/model--don't go with Bravos!

I purchased a Maytag washer and dryer about two and a half years ago, which I also purchased warranties to protect my new appliances. After a year, the dryer stopped working and it took me many months to receive a replacement after it was coded as unrepairable. My first washer with the set flooded my house straight out of the box after hook up, causing great damage.
Maytag would not do a thing. I returned the washer to the retailer and this washer has been repaired numerous times, with the next repair estimating 700 to 800 dollars. The machine flooded my house yesterday and warranty is not responding. They explained three criteria for replacing a machine.
1) Has the same part failed three times.2) Is it cost effective, meaning is it going to cost more to repair the machine then to replace it.
3) If the parts are to costly (which repeats #2). Well, after previous service calls, and the next estimated service call, it is then the machine is selling for and with three deliveries of parts that have been delivered broken (delaying repair for three months), it seems to me that the numbers well exceeds the replacement cost of the machine.
I spoke to the warranty department and they refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor and refuse to replace my machine, and stated that I will just have to wait until a part shows up without being broken for repairs. They are also not responsible for the damage to my house that this machine has caused for the second time. Can anyone tell where to go from here?
