I purchased this dryer in September 2011. By August 2012, one month before the warranty expires, the thermo fuse blew and the dryer would not dry; no heat. I replaced fuse and 30 days later, it blew again. I replaced it again and now, March 2013, 6 months later, the same thing; the thermo fuse blew, no heat. The vent is clean and air flow is very good. Maytag will not admit a problem. This is not an inexpensive dryer; it may be cheap, but not inexpensive. Maytag quality appears to have vanished. I have Maytag throughout the house but will think twice before purchasing Maytag again. Chinese produced parts/products are inferior. Maybe I'll look at Bosch or LG from now on.

This was a terrible design. The clothes on the washer come out tied together. It stops spinning. I bought this because I thought it had a good name. Never buy the washer without an actuator. I have had trouble with this machine since the day I bought it. I have 6 loads of laundry to do, and it will not spin. I have had this washer for about 3 years, and I am going out tomorrow to buy me a good washer; but never a Maytag again.

I have a Maytag Bravos washer and on almost every other load, the dark clothes (mainly slacks) come out with white splotches on them and then I have to re-wash the pants and the splotches go away. What could be causing this? I'm tired of washing clothes more than once. It's incredibly wasteful and bad for our environment. Thank you.

I purchased a Maytag Bravos washer and dryer combo 2.5 years ago. Six months in, I noticed that the washer would always stop halfway through the cycle. We had a repairman come out because it was under warranty and he said it just had to be reset. I then started to become weary of the product. The washer, that is larger than most, is still a problem today. The dryer, the last couple of months, has not dried clothes completely. Today the dryer just stopped. Maytag will rip you off when called for service because the warranty is expired. I have owned old dryers for several years and I am so disappointed with the Maytag product that I will make sure that anyone I know thinking about purchasing a Maytag will buy another brand. The worst washer and dryer I have ever owned.

I bought Washer and Dryer Pair new less than 2 years ago. Within 6 months of purchase, the bearing went - warranty. Then 1 week before one year old, bearing went again. I contacted Maytag. They told me it was my problem and I should have bought extended warranty. Lemon law should apply and I asked about appeal process and was told that there is no such thing. Now, the washer is needing a new pump and it is not even 2 years old!

I purchased the Legacy series washer and dryer from Home Depot in 2005. For the first 3 years, the washer worked fine. Since then, it has all been downhill. When I use bleach, I have to run an empty load because for whatever reason, the bleach goes through to the next load which has resulted in a number of ruined clothes. The wash cycle leaves clothes dirty and some even come out partially dry?! The rinse cycle does not always work as more times than not, the fabric softener is still in the dispenser cup. The spin cycle is getting worse with each load. Sometimes I reset the spin cycle as many as three times at which point I hand wring the clothes. This creates a strain on the dryer as I have to run it extra long to dry the clothes. I am more disappointed than I can say. I will never purchase anything Maytag again and I will not purchase from the company who makes Maytag products.

Bravo XL - I purchased this dryer in June 2012. In October, the first thermostat was replaced, again in February 2013 and two within a week from March 8th and March 12th. I was told it was my vent. However, the appliance continually showed venting "good". I was told to have it cleaned. I did and it is documented that there was great air flow before and after and only a handful of lint collected. I have spoken with Whirlpool and no one will have the integrity or courage to say it may be a faulty unit. I will never purchase another Whirlpool product. I had spent nearly $5,000.00 in Whirlpool appliances in June of 2012. I feel they will cover any issues until the warranty is completed, and then the problems are mine and at my expense.

I have a 6-month-old top load Bravo Washer. It has destroyed two bottom fitted king size sheets and 2 shirts that now have holes. It apparently slices the sheets during agitation. I have a service policy and called the service agency. The technician said there was nothing wrong with the machine, yet it literally ate 2 more items. Help! I need a solution to this problem.

Maytag Bravo Quiet Series 300 - I purchased the set 2.5 years ago and after 2 years, it started making a rubbing sound. I kept using it with having a family of 5 and this is why I purchased it in the first place; with 3 boys, I do a lot of laundry. It then quit working on me all together and wouldn't spin the clothes. I had a technician come out and it was the barriens that spun the drum so I had them fix it and it cost me $400. Then about a month later, it was flashing code F51 and not spinning. I had them come back out thinking it would be covered since it just got fixed but no, it cost me another $100. Now, 6 months later and here I am again unable to do laundry because it's flashing F51 and won't drain or spin. I called Maytag and they tried selling me a warranty and said it wasn't recalled because there wasn't enough complaints. We need to all call and raise a ruckus. This is ridiculous. Sorry to hear everyone going through as I am.

We purchased our Maytag Bravos washer and dryer in 2008. Within a year, the hinges that held the door open on the top load washer broke. In year 2, the area around the fabric softener dispenser rusted so badly that it almost completely ate the porcelain enamel away. In year 4, it started making a noise that I will compare to a jet on takeoff during the rinse cycles. It continued to work but got louder and louder. We looked into the cost of the repair, which was going to be $350 parts + labor. If it had been a good machine, we might have considered fixing it but it wasn't. Even a set of sheets could put it off balance, which stopped the machine with the wash cycle incomplete.
It also set its own water level based on the weight of the clothes and many times the top items came out with dry spots that hadn't even been submerged throughout the whole cycle. Consequently, the clothes were never very clean and I would have to rewash many loads. This machine was not cheap - around $1,000. I was so frustrated and felt completely taken by the Whirlpool company again. We have had many unhappy situations with their products over the years - Kitchenaid, Jenn-Air and Maytag. We finally learned our lesson and researched washers online. The best rated that we could find was Speed Queen. We couldn't find it in Canada, so my husband drove 5 hours round trip to the US and bought one.
We have had it 4 months now and the difference is unbelievable. Our clothes are clean again. I can set my own water level and the hot cycle actually gives you hot water. It never goes off balance no matter how many or few clothes it has. If I see that I need more water part way through a cycle, it has a button that lets you add some part way through. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles. It's a basic but excellent machine that is a pleasure to use. I would recommend it highly. I realize it has only been a short time, but my Maytag never performed like this machine even from day one. It reminds me of my very first washing machine many years ago, an Inglis, which never had a repair in 15 years of use. If our dryer goes, we will definitely buy Speed Queen. The trip is well worth it.

I purchased my Maytag washer and dryer set from the Maytag store in Glendale, AZ in September 2005. I even bought the stands for them. With my purchase, I got the extended warranty for four more years. I didn't realize that I would really need it. I have had so many issues with the washer and dryer I can't even count - from the control panel not working, to the noise and the vibration when washing, or maybe in the smell of moldy cheese. I also have issues with the constant chimes of D5 code that keeps coming up on the display screen. After 2009, I finally gave up on calling the Maytag customer service folks to have someone come and service the washer because it was out of warranty. I just decided to live with all those issues.
As far as my dryer goes, the rollers went bad and that was replaced. The burnt smell isn't so bad as long as you use a wire hanger with a sock on the end of it and clean the inside of the vent. Then try to vacuum it, take the sock, get it wet, and clean the inside of the vent again. This was the most expensive piece of junk I have ever purchased in my life (almost $3,000.00 with the stands and warranty).
What really gets me upset is I had the Maytag people servicing my washer and dryer up until 2009 and no one told me about a recall of my washer and dryer. The only reason I found out about it was searching for the specs as the washer finally died and I am replacing it. Trust me. I will not be purchasing a Maytag. I know that Whirlpool purchased Maytag so I am not even going to consider Whirlpool either. Since Whirlpool purchased Maytag, Whirlpool should have contacted all Maytag consumers, (which they didn't), put ads in newspapers (which I did not see) or put an ad on TV. None of these appeared to have happened.
By the way, when I bought my Maytag appliances, I was supposed to get a $200 rebate for buying the stands that never came. It must have gotten lost in the mail - as well as the Tide coupons for three years. You, guys, remember that too. I will never ever purchase a Maytag appliance or Whirlpool, since they own Maytag now.

We purchased a washer and dryer two years ago. The washer got louder and louder until we realized something was wrong and we called to get it fixed. Luckily, that was within the time of the warranty. The noise, however, began getting louder and louder within a very short time. Maytag refused to fix it again. Now, the washer sounds like a jet engine and won't drain the water at all.

We purchased the Maytag front loader Neptune washer and dryer set in 2006. Since then, the washer violently vibrates during the spin cycle - moving out of place and requiring me to move it manually. A certified Maytag technician came out to fix it and could not. The Maytag representative I spoke with said the circuit board is known to be defective and Maytag has not given any direction on how to fix, but that the board is irreparable at that time (in addition to the mold smell that emits from the washer despite the fixes for this). The old washers also used to have a coin receptacle so that any coins that were left in pockets went into the coin receptacle instead of into the pump area. This protected the pump assembly. But to cut costs, they took that coin receptacle out. This causes any coins or other possible things that fall out of the pocket to go into the pump area, getting lodged in there and requiring a costly replacement for the part in addition to costly labor.
This washer does not do the best job in the spin cycle because it vibrates so much, leaving a lot of excess water in the clothes. I have also smelled a burning smell when doing loads that suggests there may be electrical issues that could cause a fire hazard. Then there is the dryer. The Maytag Neptune front load dryer has design issue with the electrical assembly. We smelled a burning smell and unplugged it. After taking apart the front cover, the heating coils had set on fire excess lint that had gotten into the heating assembly. In addition, the coil snapped in half, possibly causing a short in the wiring. This also caused other electrical issues that are causing more money to fix.
In addition, this is the second time we have dealt with electrical issues with the dryer that have cost us over $400 to fix, including having to replace the drum because it was cracked. Lint and other items seems to get into the very important electrical areas of the dryer due to a faulty design in the lint tray, because the lint goes right through a hole into the areas where the heater coils are, which caused the burning smell in our dryer. In my opinion, both these machines could be very good machines if they were not made so cheaply and if they put good quality into the machines. They don't seem to be worth the price and the support is not there.
Even more frustrating, the company does not stand behind the product, leading me to believe that they know about these problems, but don't want to fix them when they go bad. This can pose a hardship for families waiting for two weeks for parts while their dryers or washers are broken. Not to mention the enormous repair costs after the warranty has expired. Try to get them to replace something on the warranty and you have even more problems.

My original Maytag washer lasted over 25 years (still using dryer purchased in 1977). But the Maytag model SAV 4655AWW I bought a few years ago is a piece of junk! Not long after it was out of warranty, it started making noise. Not overly loud, but noisy. Since then, though it makes such a loud noise, you can hear it 3 rooms away. It leaks water from the seals, shakes and vibrates all over the place (even when level). The rocking appears to be due to pathetic self-leveling legs they put on the back of the washer. I had to put a 2x4 on the back side of the washer to keep it stable. That took care of the rocking, but still noisy, leaking water and now it gets off balance when spinning and stops. It also won't start sometimes and you can smell it overheating.
The transmission is now going out of it. This thing has been one issue after another. What is worse about it is I saw in another forum that this washer wasn't even made by Maytag. Supposedly Maytag bought? After the purchase, they just put their name on it. I bought a Maytag because of the dependability of their "previous" products, so I'm thoroughly disappointed in their company and products. If I had wanted a washer built by some other company, I would have purchased it versus theirs. If you purchase a Maytag, you expect to get a product designed and built by them. I'll never buy another Maytag product and I'll thoroughly research the product I'll buy to replace this hunk of junk. My advice would be don't waste your money on Maytag.

Everything was fine until 6 weeks ago. The bearing went bad under the drum. 2 techs and 2 weeks later, at the cost of $527 and change spent on repair for a $650.00 machine, I started to look into reviews. Not! Can you say class action lawsuit! The fine gentlemen informed me 5 years ago about the Canada buyout, a local retailer that only sold Maytags. He shut his doors due to the fact that he will not work on junk! Oh well, he was right. 13 months' worth of use and I'm going to spend that kind of money. Now I understand why the repairman in the commercials retired! Shame on you. Love, crazy Mike.

I reinstalled (I'm in mechanical field, service tech by trade), and two weeks later, it's off again. I called Maytag, and all they wanted to do was schedule service. When I asked the person on the phone what the service tech was going to do different than what I had done, he had no idea. I then asked for Tech Support and was told there was none? I didn't purchase the extended warranty believing that I was buying a quality product that would last many years, not just two. I will never buy Maytag/Whirlpool again.

Maytag Frontload washer MHWE300VW12 - I bought the washer and dryer in 2010 through Lowe's. In Dec. 2012, it started making a loud sound when it would be in spin cycle. I called for service. When the repairman came out, he said the rear seal/bearing was bad and has gone out. The part and labor cost would be $1,184.36. Come on, are you flipping kidding me? That's twice what I paid new for the washer. I bought them for the Maytag name. If I would have known it was a Whirlpool, no way I would have gotten them. My mother had a Maytag set that lasted 30 years. That explains why they don't show the commercials with the Maytag repairman that wouldn't have anything to do. We purchased the washing machine (MVWB400VQO) on July 9, 2009. Now we must buy a new washing machine as this one is apparently beyond repair, or else the repair costs will far exceed what it would cost to purchase a new machine. We are completely disgusted with its failure, as we paid $822.36, with the delivery fee and the tax. We expected that this machine would last for years, but here we are, 42 months later, having to again invest in a washer. Now that we have a computer and are able to browse your performance reports, we wish we had been able to read them before, in which case we never ever would have bought it at all.
Yesterday it spewed water all over our basement, flooding things that should not get wet, providing an atmosphere for encouragement of mold and rust. The motor is gone as the housing is cracked, which was caused by debris getting into it, something that we could not have known or prevented. This is very poor design by your company, in our opinion. We called some repairmen, all useless as apparently the whole machine would have had to be completely dismantled at a rate of $84.00 per hour, and he could not tell us how many hours that would take, to say nothing of finding a new motor for the thing.
We will never again buy a Maytag product as they are expensive with a too-short shelf life and there’s nobody who cares when you need help for something that should not have happened at all. I understand Maytag is really not the good old dependable Maytag we used to know and love at all, but rather is now owned by the Whirlpool Corporation, whose products we will never purchase either.
I know why that lovable old Maytag repairman we used to see on TV is "retired." It's because he could no longer stand the quality (or lack thereof) of the appliances that you are now producing. He is probably home, hiding his head somewhere and hoping nobody will recognize him. And what, kind sirs, do you have to say about this? Thank you in advance for your prompt reply.

I called the company and they will not cover the cost. Instead they want to sell a warranty for over $300.00 for one year and then if I purchased it, then they would fix it.
If I did that, I would have more money into the repairs then what the machine cost ($583.44). Isn't there a lemon law? It looks like I will have to get rid of this machine and buy a different brand. Yes, Maytag has let me down. I cannot recommend their products because of the quality and answers that they give. I cannot afford an attorney, which leaves me upset when somebody won't cover the cost of the third repair.

We bought our set when they first came out at Home Depot. We gave a pretty penny for the set. The 2nd complaint is, for a couple months now, the UL light comes on and beeps. I have to open the lid, close it and it starts that part of the cycle over and it usually does 4 to 5 times before it actually spins and finishes. I put it in the shop; they said they can't find out what's wrong with it. They said the leveling rods are still new looking. I was like, I know it's still a newer set. It's money for nothing. I called back the next day (5/17/11) and told them I'm still having problem. They told me to call the appliance team and have a different tech come out. I called and left a message. No one called me back. I called the next day and asked for a supervisor (Kitty), who gave me specific numbers to call. I called an appliance repair, who was leaving on vacation and gave me yet another person to call.
Finally, I got Scott out to look at the washer on 5/27/11. He said the only thing he sees wrong is it got very sudsy, so use less soap. I started using the smallest amount of soap and diluting it with water, running the washer on the bulky cycle and running water through the machine if I ever used bleach. Did it solve the problem? No. Finally in December 2011, the machine ruined a very expensive shirt. I called Maytag and was informed that if a tech comes out, I would have to prove the machine has failed or they would charge me. Bought our washer dryer set from Sears in the fall of 2010. I had reservations from the start as the machines were new and the salesman was really pushing this set (on sale), with all the customers, even offering extra discounts on these models only, if customers bought that day. Apparently, they had overstock and were trying to sell them all ASAP. That was a warning to me but my husband convinced me that I was being overly suspicious. We had previously owned Maytag machines for 20 years and loved them. So I agreed.
Well, I have been cursing that decision ever since. You have to hand wash/prescrub any stain on clothing, even a little make-up like blush or a little mud. Then you have to put up with an inflexible system that won't allow you manual options regarding spins and temperature or times, etc. It's all programmed. Then you put up with clanging spin cycle as it bangs against the wall. Then you pull out very wrinkled and not always cleaned clothes only to begin the most frustrating dryer experience ever. It has a mind of its own. It can actually keep spinning as it keeps adding dry time and the clothes never dry!
God help you if you have a regular load. All your clothes will get stuck on the little ledge. They stay there in a heap as the machine spins and spins. The solution? You have to add a bunch of dry towels to create a lot of mass so that it keeps your laundry from getting stuck on the side. Then you have to repeat this several times cause it doesn't dry well. I will never ever shop at Sears and I will never buy Whirlpool or Maytag again. I am now saving to buy another set.

My husband bought me a brand new Bravo Maytag washer and dryer from Home Depot in November 2010. In May of 2011, we moved and the dryer hookup was electric instead of gas. My husband knew how much I love the dryer, so he surprised me with another Bravo dryer to match the washer. We put the other dryer in storage and were happy with our purchase until April. In April 2012, the dryer stopped working. It wouldn't dry the clothes at all, and every time we tried to dry, the dryer was filled with wet lint.
We were only a week away from moving again, so we waited until we got to the new house. The new house had gas hookups. So, we put the dryer that didn't work in storage and were thankful we didn't get rid of the other dryer. Now, just a few months later, the gas dryer isn't drying and is having the same issues as the electric dryer. How very disappointing!
Both dryers are broken now, and it has only been 2 years. Each dryer has gotten about a year of use and then both quit. My husband, I and my two-year-old don't do that much laundry to break 2 dryers. We purchased our Maytag 4000 series washer and dryer (Model: MHWE450) in December 2010 from Best Buy. For the first six months or so, we were very happy. We started to notice that the washer was getting a little louder by the month. I checked the level multiple times to be sure that wasn't the issue. Assuming it was just part of how the washer broke in, I just let it go - a bad move! Fourteen months after I purchased the set, the washer flooded all over the floor. I opened the washer and pieces of plastic were all over our clothes. After further inspection, the drain was completely full of the same plastic. I cleaned it all up only to find that the washer tub was so loose that it was banging side to side.
I called Maytag to ask for help or suggestions. They basically told me that I was out of warranty and kind of out of luck. I responded that we do a total of four to five loads of clothes per week and that there was no reason that this "commercial" series washer should have failed after 14 months. They offered a one-time service plus extended service contract. Feeling that I had no choice, I spent almost $400 assuming that I had a fixed washer and a year extra warranty. I was told that someone would be out to look at the washer in three days. Finally, after me pressing and pressing, someone showed up a week later. He put a list together of all of the items that were needed to repair the washer.
Two days later, Maytag service calls and says that the washer will be too expensive to repair and they would be giving me a reimbursement for buying a new one. They didn't have an exact amount yet. Two more days later, they finally called me with an offer of around $550 ($250 less than what I paid) based on their research of what I should be able to find one for and directed me to the website. One big catch though - it didn't include the $125 shipping charge. When I called to request for it to be paid as well, they declined with basically a “take it or leave” type of attitude. Not knowing what to do, I called every local appliance store until I found someone that had two in stock. When I went to look at them, I was told that both of the ones that they had were rebuilt because that model Maytag washer had a major issue with the bearing and basically needed to be replaced on all of them.
Luckily, I was able to buy the washer and a five-year extended service contract for around $690. So in the end, I paid $799 for the new washer, $400 for a warranty, another $100 to replace the washer, and close to $100 in laundry mat costs for three weeks. I promised everyone that I spoke to with Maytag that I would write a review to share my story and that's why I wrote this. The repair plus warranty is a joke. I like this washer/dryer but will never buy another Maytag appliance again. Next time, I will buy extended service contract from the start.

When I go to Lowe's or any store for that matter and see someone considering this product, I warn them as quickly as possible to stay away from this product. I will continue to do so. I have only had a couple of weeks. They said the only thing they could do is replace the tub. Why should I get stuck with a machine that left the factory with a hole in the tub? My husband and I purchased a Maytag washer and dryer (Bravos series) from Home Depot for $1494.50 and delivered on 08-29-2012. The washer has not worked from almost the first. I called Home Depot and they said I had to call the company manufacturer for repair. I contacted the repair service they provided. They came out after I scheduled an appointment. I then had to wait for over 10 days till the part came in and then schedule another appointment to install the part. They declared the machine working and departed. I went to wash, only to find it would not go past the wash cycle. I called again, scheduled another appointment. They came out, ordered another part. I waited over another week until the part arrived and had to schedule another appointment for them to install. They declared the machine "good-to-go".
I went to wash only to find the machine would not go past wash on any cycle again! They were out again this week only to find the machine will not allow cold water to come through and that each time the "error board" does not indicate a problem. I am now waiting for a part to come in next Monday to be installed on Tuesday. I have not had a working washer since September. When I called Maytag, they said sorry, schedule more service repair. I have spent days waiting for service, months not being able to wash (on a brand new machine). I'm going crazy and have no confidence that once repaired this machine will last.

I purchased a Maytag front loader washer less than a year ago. Based on their deceptive advertising, Maytags rarely need service (model MHWE201YW00). There was a loud banging within 11 months. I called service for the additional warranty I purchased. The service man told me "this machine is shot". The bearing completely broke and the drum was loose. They ordered 3 huge boxes, 3-1/2 feet cubes delivered to my house. I had to drag them into my garage where they have been sitting for two weeks.
I am now 4 weeks without a washer with 4 kids. I've called Corporate Headquarters and have spoken to their "Corporate Board" Gwenn and Jackyln who seem to think they can diagnose the problem. I told them the machine smelled like it was burning and the last load was dripping wet and the clothes smelled burnt. This is a stackable in my kids' bedroom and I told them I was concerned about an electrical fire. I've already missed one day of work for this. I am now being told Jan. 11, 2013 is when it can be serviced. That would be 2 months without a machine.
They are willing to endanger my children with wet wires and an electrical fire. Mr. Fettig is impossible to get in touch with and this customer service center apparently has no supervisors. What they say, goes. A class action should be started against Mr. Fettig and his team of crooks who are putting crap out into the market place, falsely advertising it and then not backing up when their product breaks less than a year and becomes a possible hazard in someone's home. I've sent to his home address a UPS letter to Mr. Fettig, letting him know if a fire starts in my home due to water on the wet wires (water that got behind the drum because of the faulty bearing), water that was leaking from the bottom of the washer that I hold him and his company personally responsible.
They have been alerted to the problem numerous times and ignore it. I spoke to their Safety department and I asked what to do if I smell a burning smell when the machine was running. They told me to immediately shut it off and unplug. Yet Whirlpool is trying to put a Band-aid on a machine that has already been infected with water damage to the wires. This has been such a frustrating, stressful experience. Even 5 weeks from now, when my replacement parts are put in, I will worry each time the machine is run if there will be a spark from the damaged wire.
Something must be done legally to stop these crooks from doing to this and getting away with it. All they care about is their profit margin. The Whirlpool creed to their customers is a bunch of bull! Mr. Fettig vacations at his home on Dolphine Island, Alabama while hardworking people are scrambling around trying to figure out what happened to their new appliance that promised to work but is broken in less than a year. He vacations at his home in Florida while the hard-earned money you spent on his product is a waste.

The problem I had is the motor control unit (MCU), which is a $225 to $275 part online. However, Maytag will only replace the board under extended warranty with a refurbished board that they say costs $330, whereas they say the new one is over $600. Why is it that Maytag charges double what everyone else charges? If so many people are having these problems, it is obviously a defect and should not be the consumer’s responsibility. We purchased a front loading Maytag washer in January of 2011. We purchased an extended service plan in January of this year. I noticed a very loud noise and inappropriate operation during the spin cycle. I called the service plan, who contacted a repair service to come out and check my machine. I was told that there was a major problem that would be very expensive to fix and that the Assurant company would contact me in a few days. The company called and said that they would give me 75% of the value of the machine ($650) because fixing it was not economically feasible. I said that I did not want the money; I wanted the repair that I was guaranteed by my service contract. They referred me to the small print on the back of the sales letter. When I asked about any manufacturer's warranty from Maytag (the washer was less than 2 years old), I was told that they had nothing to do with the manufacturer and I had to take that up with them. When I tried to call Maytag, they were decidedly unhelpful and referred me back to Assurant.
There are several issues related to this event that I wish to complain about:
1) How dare a major company sell a thousand-dollar appliance that becomes unrepairable in less than 2 years and take no responsibility for the breakdown? There was obviously a defect in the machine that took over a year to show up (we are a household of 2 adults and did not overuse the machine).2) How could a service contract issued under the Maytag name not be aware of parts covered by the manufacturer?
3) Should not the buyer of a service contract bearing the Maytag name be informed that it is not Maytag (the manufacturer) that is guaranteeing the product, but a third party?
4) Should not the seller of a service contract be required to display the terms of the contract in a prominent place? The sales letter specifically states "Repair or replace - If we can't repair your appliance due to a mechanical or or electrical breakdown, we'll replace it." The limits of coverage are in fact given in small print at the back of the letter and are on the contract, but this contradicts what is displayed prominently on the promotion letter. This is false advertising and should not be tolerated.

I really thought I was getting a great deal and product when I had bought both my Maytag Neptune washer and dryer FAV6800 - they had all the bells, rings, etc. They were supposed to be water and energy efficient and all digital. I bought my washer and dryer brand new when they first came out because they were supposed to be equal to the front loaders. As a result, I have had these set repaired too many times to count. This washer and dryer are junk and I am out of all the money I have spent on them. I truly wish they would recall them. I cannot tell you how many times the washer plate, transmission, and clutch had to be replaced, let alone other parts! There’s the cost of repairs and Maytag comes out to find out what is wrong while they are broken and then they have to order the parts (so there goes more time without a washer). There’s also the cost of going to the laundromat and hauling dirty clothes - not to mention who wants to wash their clothes anywhere else but their own home? The washer went first and now the dryer - it took 3 hours just to dry a small load of clothes.
I really thought Maytag was a reputable company. My parents, grandparents, and other family members loved their products, but I have to say after this I am done buying anything from Maytag. These washers and dryers are junk. The parts are mostly plastic and no one likes to work on them - not even the repair people who are paid by Maytag, which is now owned by Whirlpool! I got a one-year warranty on these and bought a five-year extended warranty for all of the inconvenience of not having a working washer and dryer half of the time. I called Maytag and they sent out a repair-person, warranty up, only to find out that it would cost $1100.00 to fix just the washer (parts included).
Maytag swore to send me more warranty info to buy into and never had received it at all. For this much money, I might as well add $900.00 more and this and that will be the cost of the set itself, not including the extra warranty on them, taxes, delivery charges, etc. on them. But if you include all the laundromat charges, gas expenses as it is to get back and forth, I probably have that already invested in a total loss on two pieces of junk. Next time I will review anything that I buy from other consumers/customers. And to think I could have gone and bought the standard washer and dryer with the regular agitator in the middle of the tub for almost half of the price! They just do not make things the way they used to!

I was told this was a top of the line model when I purchased it for $999. I've never had such a piece of junk before in my life. I run loads of bleach weekly to control the mildew.

We bought our Maytag Bravo top loader on May 5, 2010. The machine was working fine. Then last week with no warning, the F51 error code popped up. We called Sears and they sent a repairman out. The result was the sensors work independently from each other (tested correct in the Ohms range). It made it through an entire diagnostic test, but will not complete a wash cycle. The repair guy concluded that the control board was bad. Estimated cost to fix was upwards of $400. I cannot afford to fix. Our issue with this product is that it is apparent, from reading all the forums, that this is a known issue. And we believe Maytag should be reimbursing consumers for this repair or they should recall the washer. Our washer is used on the weekends and it should have lasted us for minimally five years. All we wanted was to make it through one military overseas tour with it, not asking much. Instead, this machine lasted two years. Unacceptable.

We purchased the Bravos X washing machine on Feb. 9, 2012. I had a Maytag for 30 years before this one and did not have any problems. My model # is MVWX700X. I have given it sufficient time to get used to it. I have tried all cycles for my whites and am not satisfied. I use Clorox in the receptacle and I have only used Tide HE. I spot treat all of our underwear, which is changed every day, and it always comes out unacceptable. I am so disappointed since I was so fond of my old one and only thought I wanted another Maytag. We just replaced our 20-year-old washer and dryer for a new Maytag Bravos set. The Home Depot staff convinced us that top loading units were of good quality and reliable. We were fairly satisfied with our expensive purchase when our washer stopped spinning. We are just past our 1-year warranty of course so we called the service department. A young man in a beat-up pickup truck showed up and spent his time reading the manual that was hidden under the washer. His best guess was a $300 part plus a $100 fee for him to show up. So to repair a less than 2-year-old machine is $400. I'm tempted to buy a different washer. It won't be a Maytag, unless you can convince me otherwise. I give you credit for great advertising! I was convinced that Maytag was a good name with limited repairs.

Maytag Bravos Top Loader Model #MVWB400V90 washing machine went out and was showing code F1 code. I looked in the book and it said call service. So, I called Maytag who provided a repair number for the local authorized dealer appliance doctor. I called them 2 weeks later and the tech said, "Before I do anything, you have a common problem I’ve been seeing with the motherboard in these machines. You should contact Maytag," and charged me a $100.00 service call fee. Then when I called the Maytag line, 1-800 253-1301, the first lady says I have 2 options: purchasing a $315.00 program plus which would send a tech, cover the part and 1 year warranty or get the number for an authorized repair place. But after hearing the first option, I didn't like either.
She proceeded to tell me I could no longer have option 1 because I called a tech out. What?! Where do you think I got the number from, hello?! Then after I asked for a supervisor or manager, they put someone on the line who claimed to be the last and final authority (Robin) that I could speak to. When I asked does she have a boss, she said doesn't everybody? I said after several condescending comments by her. I am being treated like I am not the person who just spent 700 plus dollars and after only 3 years, my washing machine is out and you are treating me like I am the bad guy.
I asked for a complaint line or email address to voice my concern but again Robin stated the buck stopped with her; what?! Is this the Maytag my family would own 20 plus years later going strong or a new version who doesn't care after you purchase their washer if it lasts or not? To ask me to spend 600 plus in repairs after you tried to offer me 300 plus in a program is ridiculous and I will never ever buy a Maytag because of this response plus treatment. I will have to buy a whole new washer after only 3 years but I am going to tell the entire world to avoid Maytag if they want a washer to last without any type of resolution beyond doing it yourself.

We purchased a Maytag Bravos Quiet 300 about 8 months ago and it will not clean anything. Not one setting will make this machine clean. You have to wash everything 2 to 3 times. There is no savings of any kind with this machine and I don't know anyone who has the time to wash everything multiple times. It's all about the water; it's about as much as you can spit. I ran a hose from the faucet and added 8 gallons about 10 minutes into the wash cycle and was able to clean (float) a set of sheets. I find this energy star machine to be worthless and I would have been better buying an old machine at a garage sale than this Bravos machine. Junk. I purchased a new Maytag from Home Depot. It was delivered and installed by them on 7/20/12. Today is 9/18/12. It is less than 2 months old and the tub is starting to shred around the upper rim. I called to get it repaired. What a nightmare. First I tried to understand a Filipino woman through a bad connection. She advised me to call a different customer service number, 1-800-688-9900. I talked to Crystal. She called up information on me using my phone number. She asked for the serial number as she had the model number available from the online registration I completed on 7/20/12. I told her I do not have that and asked where it was located. I also told her that I was unable to get it at this time as I am handicapped.
She advised me that I had to show my repairman the receipt or I would have to pay a $60 service charge. I get nervous about throwing good money after bad. So I then asked why. If the serial number is so important, why is it not a required info when you register online? She had no answer. I asked to speak to her supervisor. I waited 4 minutes. Enna finally came on the line. She gave conflicting info about my online registration. She said I was not registered online (if not, how did Crystal have all my other info including my model number? Why did Crystal tell me I had registered without the serial number?). Enna told me that the repairman could key in the serial number when he gets to my house and if my washer was under warranty, I would not be charged.
Again I asked why, if the serial number is so critical to the process and with all the info they seem to have on me (name, address, phone number, model number, place of purchase, date of delivery, etc.), why is the location of this very critical number is not in the owner's manual? Why do they allow you to register without it online and why don't they track sales and delivery by serial number? She was unable to address these issues. I asked to speak to her supervisor. She told me she would give me her supervisor's name and number (Kim, **) but she would not give me a last name or contact information. She told me that she was the highest level that I was allowed to speak with.
Bottom line, my Maytag is falling apart, getting through the red tape to get it fixed under warranty is silly. Maytag ignores its own concept of tracking by serial number and does not support the use of serial number by telling you where it is located on an appliance or requiring it to register online. Calling customer service is a joke! I was mad when my new $800 washer started to fall apart. Now I am just sad with the way we allow manufacturers to treat us. Mad about the way we allow them to operate in the United States. They create junk or junk parts overseas, products fall apart over here, calls for repair get routed around the world, and then they create more red tape and call it customer service. I made one bad choice. Hopefully, you are reading this and can avoid your own.

I had an old 406 Maytag washer that was worth its weight in gold - repaired it as long as possible. I bought this new one because it was a Maytag and that was a mistake. The way it agitates my clothes get tangled and they never did that in the other original Maytag. We had to have it fixed not long after we got it and now every time I turn it on, it immediately starts to agitate on every cycle except hand wash, which it never did before. If I knew it agitated the way it did, I never would have got it. Good thing we bought an extended warranty for this machine. I'm totally done with the Maytag brand that I've trusted for over 30 years. I never knew until yesterday via Facebook friends that they are not true Maytag-made anymore. They were bought out by Whirlpool eight years ago. I bought my top-load Maytag Bravo 400 Series Washer ($1,028) at Home Depot in October 2008. No problems with it until now, less than 4 years old with error code DL. So I looked in the book and found it was the lid lock (the little red light wasn't lighting up when closing the lid, which prevents it from running).
I made an online appointment with Sears Home Appliance repair to check it out. But after talking with online friends and googling fix videos, I was able to get it running today by taking the top off, unplugging the lid wire and plugging it back in. So far, it's working but now I will fear each time I go to use it that something else will fail. My old Maytag's (washer and dryer) bought in the 80's never needed service until they approached the 14- to 15-year mark. That only tells me that the newer made appliances are total junk! So many complaints and how the companies don't back their appliances, it just sickens me.

I purchased the Maytag Load-Sensing washer and dryer in June 2010 and up until recently, was pleased with the overall performance of the machines. However, approximately two weeks ago, the washer did not function properly as it left the clothes still saturated with water when the cycle was done and was not spinning the excess water out, which required me to run my dryer twice as long to get them dry. When I inquired where I had purchased the washer, I was informed that they sell them only and do not provide service nor could they recommend someone to me that does provide service on Maytag in my area.
I finally located a repair shop and when the service technician came over, he informed me that the problem with my 2-year-old washer was the transmission had gone out and it was not worth fixing as the cost would be higher than buying a new one. I perhaps could understand this if the washer had been misused or overloaded in any way. I do laundry for myself only and have never overloaded or misused the washer. The last washer I had lasted me 15 years and I fully expected that a Maytag would do the same or better. That is one reason I chose a Maytag.
I am thoroughly disappointed that I now have to replace a major appliance that should have lasted at least 5 years. I will not purchase another Maytag and I will let others know of the poor quality that Maytag has become. I have not contacted Maytag directly as it appears by all the complaints they have received on their appliances that they do not care about the customer. Since it is all electronic, you can't select a spin cycle without the machine adding more water into the tub. Again, this does not self-correct the out of balance problem. Trying to balance the cloths several times during a wash cycle extends the length of time it takes to wash one load on average two hours. Maytag offers no customer service or customer support. The excuse that I was given was (per quote) our machines are made by people and we have no way of determining the outcome of our products past the given warranty. Maybe you should have considered buying the extended warranty that was offered at the time of purchase. Yeah, maybe I should have, but Maytag should build a product that consumers are happy with, and extended warranty sales past a longer period of time might make more sense.
If you are thinking about purchasing any Maytag appliance, I would think twice or you just might get some person on the other end of the line that just doesn't care, representing the name of Maytag! I visit the Big Box Stores daily and you can bet your tail that I will make a special visit to the appliance section just to discourage any one from making the same mistake I did! Just think, the last washing machine that I purchased lasted for 9 years (not one issue) and it was still working when I gave it to someone in need! I have three appliances in my kitchen that are 11 years old, never had one problem with either one. Thank You KitchenAid! I should have purchased your washer and dryers!

I bought a Maytag Bravos top loader washer and dryer less than 2 years ago. I started having problems with my dryer 3 months ago and after several service calls (and a few hundred dollars), it still does not dry our clothes. I spent over $1500 for the pair and was excited to have a top end washer and dryer. My biggest complaint is with the manufacturer, Maytag - they just don't seem to care. I did not buy the extended warranty for two reasons. First, I bought a nice unit and expect it to work properly for a reasonable amount of time (at least 4-5 years without any problems). Second, they are just a bad purchase and they cost about half of the unit and if you buy a nice unit, you shouldn't need one.
I could have bought a new dryer for what I spent to try and have this one work properly. My wife and I spent $600 for our last set which lasted 7 years without a problem; they were manufactured by GE, which I now wish I would have bought another GE. My wife talked me into buying a new pair to accommodate the needs of our growing family. I wished I would have kept the GE pair that was working.
I would not recommend any Maytag appliance: they really just don't care to provide any reasonable service to stand behind their products. What a shame. This reminds me of why many foreign manufacturers are beating us at what we used to do best - make products that last and work! The washer and dryer look nice and have many great features, but these don't matter much if they don't work.

I had the washer repaired twice in January, once in April and again in August, the same repair wire coming out of harness. I had to pay a second time before Willie, the repairman, finally put a longer wire on the harness. Maytag told me they would send a new repairman after I called to complain. All 4 times, it's been the same man and it cost me money. It seems like a bait and switch with the repairman. I called both A& E and Maytag. Both refused to refund the $129 second charge because it was more than 90 days. I say it's been the same issue, repairman is a scam when they don't fix it right and charge again. I had another man there who knows about repairs and finally told the repairman to change out the wire or it wouldn't have been done this time either. From the time I wrote the complaint until February 2012, I had been dealing with this Maytag Atlantis washing machine (and dryer, which was equally as bad) and I am pleased to report the thing finally died for good! I got another (almost) 3 years out of it! That's pretty impressive when you consider that I had to manually adjust each load to re-spin. To recap, I purchased it in the summer of 2002 and managed to hold on to it for almost 10 years. I wouldn't normally recommend doing what I did but I was determined to run it into the ground before I replaced it. I replaced it with a GE washer and dryer and couldn't be happier. I have read all the complaints. I have similar issues with Maytag Bravos. I’m frustrated that "modern tech" products stink to high heaven, especially when we refer to clean clothes not being cleaned well. The specific issues I keep getting are the following: the LF codes appear and the cold water does not fill so that it won't rinse or drain. I have replaced the defective washers and that helped for one load. I refuse to fix it. Why throw good money out for the same bad product? I’m looking for a no bells and whistles washer or dryer that works. I have issues with the dryer, too. No more Maytag products in the future. The washer was extremely noisy; we were told this was normal. The dryer began making strange noises just outside the warranty period, and the belt and pulley had to be replaced. I was shocked at the cheapness of the pulley design, but the replacement part was of better quality. The washer began making a horrendous squeak shortly afterwards, again, outside the warranty period. The repairman said that "they were all like that, Maytag used inferior transmissions" and that it would be cheaper to replace the washer than repairing it. I have had the Maytag Bravos washer since November 2010. This washer does not clean clothes. They are never even submerged in water. Had I known this, I would never have purchased it. The salesman at Sears surely didn't mention it. I remember being disappointed at the fact that there wasn't a washer in the place with an agitator. I am disgusted with the washer and the company. I realized that it has been over 12 months since we purchased it, but most people do not feel the need to investigate what is going on under the lid of their washer. I unfortunately assumed that the washer was going to wash! Silly me. No, it does a little spin spin and a little spritz of water (literally, that's it) and at the end, you are left with funk concentrated in the creases of your twisted up, stinky clothes. No agitator plus no water equals no clean! The smell is awful. Someone else described it best - a mildewy basement.
Anyone else who is claiming that their clothes do not stink with this machine are surely being deceived by strong perfumes in their detergent and fabric softener. To get a true idea of what their clothes really smell like, they should wash a few times with a scoop of borax and no fabric softener. Then tell us how they smell. I am convinced that the entire line of HE washers is a sophisticated line of crap! They use such small amounts of detergent because that little bit of water going into it will not get any more soap out, much less sweat, dirt and lots of other nasty stuff. This may not be a big deal to other people, but it is huge to me. We have a small homestead. Our clothes get dirty. We spent several hundred dollars of hard earned money on a name we trusted and they do not care.
Every load, every day, I am reminded of this fact and it infuriates me. I'm not typically one to write in complaints, but as an American citizen where there is a free market (somewhat), I have an obligation. If a product is really good, the makers deserve my praise. Likewise, if the product is really bad, the makers (and refuses to compensate in any way) deserve my complaint, as do my hardworking fellow Americans shopping around for a new washer. Stay away from Maytag and if at all possible, stay away from HE machines. It is so true that they don't make them like they used to.
PS: Maytag tried to blame this issue on government regulation when I called. I'm sick of this passing the buck. I am fully aware of the chokehold government regulations have on business, but they only hurt small business. To act as if this is not a partnership between the government and big business (like Maytag) only adds insult to injury. Take a look at the money spent lobbying by this company. Disgusting. The good news is, any success they currently enjoy will not last.

I purchased a Maytag Bravo washing machine item # 26 23872 for $617.69 on 11-23-11 and it was delivered and set up on 12-02-11. My problem is if you have dirty sweaty clothes, you cannot get them clean with such little water. I used the HE detergent as directed. I talked to a woman at the local Sears Appliance store this morning, 7-11-12, about it. She said I need to use Affresh. So I did clean my washer but with a similar brand and my clothes are still stinky. I have even washed an empty load or two with bleach and hot water. I make sure I wash with hot water and completely dry my clothes.
When you take a bath and dry yourself off with a towel, it smells like a musty basement. I am allergic to mold. I can't even take a wash cloth, get it wet and wash my face without wanting to throw up from the smell. I have had guest comment on the towels as well. It's embarrassing. The problem is you cannot clean something with an inch of water in the machine. I am 58 years old and now have to do the wash. I went to the store and asked if we could return it for an exchange or anything like a discount on a new one and she would not budge. She said it had to be within 90 days but 90 days was in the middle of winter and I was not having dirty sweaty clothes from doing outdoor yard work.
Now that summer is here, 7 months later, my clothes have been smelly for a few months. I can't take it anymore. I showed the woman that I had been to Lowe's and had an estimate of 10% off with free delivery, set up and haul away. She said she could do 15% but when you add on the delivery fee, it was higher than Lowe's. I purchased my whole upgraded kitchen stainless steel appliances for about $7,000 and this set of washer/dryer but Sears could not help me out? What a disappointment that a loyal customer such as me could not at least get free delivery on a new washer. I went right back to Lowe's and ordered the same machine I wanted Sears to sell me matching Lowe's price.
So now, I am stuck with a 7- to 8-month-old machine still in the one year warranty that is like new but is a worthless piece of junk as my clothes all stink. Run, don't walk if someone tries to sell you a low water HE machine. I tried sending this letter to searsinfo.com corporate office and it is rejected even though the website gives you that address.

I purchased my Maytag Bravos washer and dryer in July 2007. As with any appliance, we always purchase the extended warranty as it usually runs about $100 on appliance. My first experience with problems was in February 2010 when the control panel went out. If I had not purchased the extended warranty, I would have been in trouble. It ran out in July 2008. It was downhill from there. In September 2010, it quit spinning; and the fabric dispenser would not work. I called again in September 2010. The tub was out of balance. In June 2011, the panel control went out again. In November 2011, it would not spin. In June 2012, the panel for control had to be changed out again. In July 2012, now the pump is leaking. And guess what, my extended warranty is up 8/1/2012.
I contacted Customer Service, which said unless there was the same problem within 12 months, there was nothing they could do. Well, I'm fired up. I intend on making a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and anyone else who will listen to me. I paid over $2000 for the washer and dryer, and it should last more than 5 years. This is ridiculous!
When Whirlpool bought out Maytag, then the product went to crap! Don't tell me the Maytag repairman does not have anything to do now, because I know I keep him real busy. I am so tired of the company's just blowing you off when you work hard for your money and purchase a product for your family that should last at least 10 years.
I am a principled person, and this is not going to go away easy. The repairman is coming next week to fix it again. I am going to give him an earful as well. The last one who came to change out the panel board (3rd time) said they had nothing but problems with this unit. Well maybe they made it that way, so when the warranty runs out, they can charge you an arm and a leg for the part and the labor to repair. I will never buy a Maytag product ever again. My next one will be the new LG washer and dryer. Talk about the lemon law. This product from what I am reading here should very well fall within that category.

I bought my Maytag Bravos washer and dryer set about 4 years ago when I moved into my home. The performance of the washer has always seemed mediocre. Despite using the correct HE products, clothes don't get as clean as with other washers I owned. Many times the washer becomes unbalanced, gets the UL code and I need to move my clothes around to get it running again. A few months ago, the washer started a new behavior: stopping during the initial fill cycle and displaying an "F1" error. I soon figured out if I hit "cancel" and then "start" again several times, it would resume filling and proceed with the cycle. Over time, I had to repeat it more and more. I read about other complaints and suggestions on the internet and tried pulling the plug for a few minutes to reset the control panel as well as turning off the breaker to reset the machine.
After troubleshooting the problem for 15 minutes or longer, the machine eventually runs. Then I can run subsequent loads with no problem. After a week or longer of doing no laundry, when I try to start the machine, I need to go through the entire process of canceling the wash load and terminating electric power to reset the machine. I have called Maytag/Whirlpool and got unsatisfactory answers. I only wash two to three loads of wash about every ten days and sometimes even less. The 800 number for Maytag was automated and would only schedule a repair without asking about the specific problem or being able to talk with a person. There was no way to cancel the service call scheduled and I had to call another 800 number to finally speak with a Whirlpool representative who tried to help me. She connected me with A&E Factory Service to cancel the service call.
Both representatives stated that most likely the control board is the problem and the cost for diagnosis would be $130 plus the cost of parts, which could run from $200 to $400 since I'm no longer under warranty. I canceled the service call as the cost of repair would be easily be almost half or more of the cost of purchasing a new (and different) machine. This is the electronics module, something that shouldn't be worn down or broken by use or even user error. This is an integral part of the machine and if it has a fault (which it clearly does), the manufacturer needs to stand behind it and help the consumer. The customer service manager even admitted that models with other model numbers had had similar problems and a free control board was sent to those customers. But my model "was not in that range.”
I had purchased a Maytag Bravos dryer at the same time as I purchased the washing machine and the dryer had a problem within a week of the warranty expiring. A service repair person came to my home to repair the dryer as it was barely a year old and I did not use it for several months that year (due to other reasons). From the volume of complaints I've seen online, the Maytag Bravos washing machines should have been recalled and repaired or replaced free of charge.

The tech came out and said the motherboard was bad. He said that this has been a common problem with this machine and that Maytag should actually recall the part. The replacement part was much better. He suggested I call and complain. The part was $180. He said that Maytag may reimburse me because it was so close to the warranty cut off. I called Maytag to explain the situation, and what do you think their response was? "Since you already paid for it, there isn't anything we can do." Nice! What a joke. I will never buy another product from them and neither should anyone else.

Maytag Maxima 9000 washer not working since day 1: I have placed a call on Friday, June 14, about my Maytag washer not working. The service man came in on Friday, June 15, 2012, and stated that a UI board needs to be replaced. I have called Whirlpool to ask for the part to be ordered so it is faster, could not do anything. Then, I have not heard from Whirlpool since. I called them again on Wednesday, June 20th, and I was told that the part was ordered and it will take up to 10 days for it to arrive. Once it arrives, the technician will call to set up an appointment. So, according to Maytag (Whirlpool), I can be without a washer for at least 2 weeks (as 10 days are 10 business days) and it is all good.

I bought my Maytag Bravos washer and dryer set about 3.5 years ago when I moved into my home. There was a 20-year old set here that did work, but I wanted something newer and more efficient, so I donated the old set and bought these. Performance of the washer has always seemed mediocre, clothes don't get as clean as I think they should, whites are dingy, despite using hard-water additives and the correct HE products.
A few months ago, the washer started a new behavior: stopping during the initial fill cycle and displaying an "F1" error. I soon figured out if I hit "cancel" then "start" again, it would resume filling and proceed with the cycle. Over time, I had to repeat it more and more. It's now up to ten F1 errors both at the beginning and end of the cycle. I don't have that kind of time to babysit my washer. I already have a full-time job.
I have called Maytag/Whirlpool twice now, both times getting unsatisfactory answers. Even after escalating to the customer service supervisor, I was basically told that it is most likely the control board that is the problem and since I'm no longer under warranty ("that washer ‘is’ almost 4 years old, ma'am"), I'd either have to order the part myself from their supplier (total cost $250 + the risk of DIY), or buy their service package for about $350 which included fixing that problem plus one additional year's warranty.
I pointed out that for a major household appliance that I (over) paid for, I expect a life of more than 4 years, especially since I had a working 20-year old washer when I moved in here. Since when is this acceptable? I could understand if it were a wear-and-tear part, like a rubber seal or something that moved constantly and would eventually need replaced. But this is the electronics module, something that can't (or at least, shouldn't) be worn down or broken by use or even user error. This is an integral part of the machine, and if it has a fault (which it clearly does), the manufacturer needs to stand behind it and help the consumer.
What angered me even further is that the customer service manager even admitted that models similar to mine had had similar problems, and a free control board was sent to those customers. But my model "was not in that range of production", so clearly they have no fault, in their eyes. Apparently, it's not even remotely possible that maybe when they determined the range of models they believed to be faulty, mine hadn't been in use long enough to display the same behavior? Maybe the range they selected is too restrictive and they missed some. From the volume of complaints I've seen online, I'd bet that to be the case.
I asked to be transferred to their legal department, and was refused because "we just don't transfer customers to the legal department". Well, I just don't buy Maytag or Whirlpool anymore, and I'm going to do my best to make sure nobody else does either. I'm replacing this ** with a different brand, one I'll be sure has tremendous reviews and a manufacturer that will stand behind it.

I purchased Maytag Bravos MVWX500XWO top loading high efficiency low water washer and it is a piece of junk. All my clothes came out horribly wrinkled and ruined a white jacket when I used the color safe bleach dispenser. I purchased the machine from Sears, where I purchased the extended warranty. I had an A&E technician out and he explained that the new technology of machines are expecting all clothes to be dried in the dryer. Okay, but what do you do with clothes that say hang dry and they come out so wrinkled and twisted that even an iron can't get the wrinkles out? Another suggestion from the technician, put the hang-dry articles in the fluff cycle of the dryer. Well, that's a big nugatory since they are supposed to hang dry them.
Supposedly, this machine is all about energy efficiency but isn't it a contradiction when you are using more energy with running a dryer? Someone suggested to me that perhaps there wasn't enough water being dispensed during the spin cycle resulting in horribly wrinkled clothes. Either way, I am on my last nerve with this machine. I always thought that Maytag was an elite company. Well, how wrong I was! Their customer service is pretty much not customer-oriented. It's all about the almighty dollar. After speaking to a supervisor, she explained to me that I should contact Sears with my complaint that Maytag had no recourse.
Well honey, Sears did not make the atrocious machine. They are just the so-called "messengers". I have unfortunately found that once Maytag sells their horrendous product, they don't even stand by it. Now isn't that typical of companies nowadays and sadly, lacking with this company? Pride in their workmanship! And again, it's all about the almighty dollar and who gives a ** about customer satisfaction? Maybe that's why they don't have the Maytag repairman. The frontload washer 4000 series began making a very loud noise on spin. I called Maytag and requested service. The technician came and made a diagnostic evaluation, stating this has been a bearing defect affecting several of these models. I called Maytag, and the representative agreed to ship the parts at no charge. A week later, we received the parts, only for the technician to find one of the parts damaged in shipping perhaps. So another part was sent directly to the Maytag dealer.
Upon my research, this appears to be a known issue with the Maytag/Whirlpool corporation, and I found where customers had requested Maytag to also be responsible for the service/labor costs, which were also covered by Maytag. I made the call today and was advised no and to be happy that Maytag paid for the parts due to a known defect and that no service or labor charges would be covered. I purchased a Maytag Centennial Commercial Technology washer in September 2010 which is less than two years ago. It decides to stop spinning correctly in the Spin cycles. Clothes come out sopping wet so I contacted Maytag to have a tech come out. On the day that the tech came out from A&E Factory Service, he stated it was a switch. He changed the switch and still, it did not spin correctly. He then proceeds to state that it is another part, which again, it did not do the function correctly. He then proceeded to state that it is the clutch, then the transmission. The cost was raising to $519.00.
I stated that I did not want to proceed because I would be purchasing a new washer with that quote. I stated to place all the original parts back onto the washer. He did so, but did not place them on correctly. The casing of the washer no longer is secured to the drum - bolts and plastic pieces are still on the side. He left my house with finger prints of grease on the walls. If this is the workmanship that Maytag recommends, then my business deserves to go elsewhere.
A complaint was filed with the A&E Factory Service. However, no one has contacted me about the complaint as was requested. All I want is for my washer to be fixed or to have a tech who is knowledgeable to come out and fix it. I contacted Maytag to inform then of the situation and they stated that all their techs are certified. I do not believe that my washer of less than two years old could possibly have so many parts that are faulty. I hope that this may, in turn, help another consumer to avoid purchasing washers through Maytag and their parent company, Whirlpool.

I called Best Buy that said they only stand behind a product for 3 months and since mine was about 3 months and 2 weeks old, I had to contact Maytag to fix it. When I contacted Maytag, it took them 3 long, angry, upsetting phone calls before they finally made an appointment for someone to come look at it the next week. I was without a washer for 9 days and when the man came, he said it was "too new for parts". He would order a new latch (apparently, he thought it was not latched and so would not run), but it would take a while to get it in. He'd call me.
3 weeks later it and he showed up. He said apparently, the latches were bad because the new one didn't work either. He would order one more and if it didn't work, he would have to order a new back panel and it could take a few months, instead of weeks, for it to come in. The second new latch finally came in and the washer still did not work! However, he reprogrammed its computer to accept the new part and it finally worked. By now, it was the end of January 2012! My new washer I had paid for in 3 payments had been broken down longer than it had run! Best Buy said basically, "you buy it, it's your problem". Maytag said basically the same thing.
They were hateful and it took over 10 phone calls to get anything done! I was not reimbursed for any laundromat usage, gas or phone minutes, of course! I was treated like I was expecting something that I had no right to have, a working product. Once I bought the product, it was my problem and not theirs. The end. The motherboard needs to be replaced because it gets stuck on a UL code near the end of the cycle. Now, we have had two people come try to fix it, and they said to trash it and buy a new one. Only three years! If I had paid $300, I wouldn't be so upset, but that was a total waste of money for it to last less than any machine I've ever had. I am writing for your assistance with an ongoing problem that I am having with my Maytag Series 2000 front-loading clothes washing machine. I am, frankly, astonished and frustrated beyond any means of coping with the response I have gotten from Maytag about the lemon washing machine that was sold to me. As I have never before had any sort of reason to complain about any major appliance purchase (nor about any car or house purchase), I’m not yet sure of what avenues are available to me. It seems prudent to inquire of your office before getting a private attorney to help me with this. The following is my situation:
First of all, I am asking for a replacement washing machine. I am clearly saddled with a lemon.
On or around December 2010, we purchased the Maytag Series 2000 washing machine from Cedar Appliance of Medford, MA. Within the first several months, the washer started ripping, shredding, and putting holes in our clothes. This did not happen during every wash cycle, just sometimes. At the time, we didn’t know if it was the washer or the (also new) Maytag dryer that was causing it. After living with this for some time, we decided to call Cedar Appliance for service. Cedar came out several times to look at the machines and they couldn’t tell what machine was causing the holes. Eventually, I started examining every article coming out of the washer to determine which machine was causing the problem. Over time and many visits later, Cedar Appliance referred us to L.A.R. Service of Wakefield MA, which they called Maytag service.
L.A.R. Service came out and looked at it. They said that we were missing a part. They ordered the part and installed it and said everything should be fine. They also sold us an extended service contract. I am still having the exact same problem with the machine. Today I called L.A.R. and they told me that I had to call Cedar to get an authorization for service. I called Cedar and they told me to call Maytag. I called Maytag and after spending an inordinate amount of time recalling the details, the service representative told me that I could pay up front for an extended warranty and they would send someone out. I asked for a supervisor. I got Kitty. Kitty told me that Maytag would not replace my machine, which is clearly a lemon because I hadn’t yet had enough service done on it. I explained that I have spent hours calling for service, scheduling service, waiting for service, supervising service, and paying for service. She explained that on only one service call did they install new parts, so I needed more service. So, I should have demanded new parts on each of these service calls so that I would have earned some credibility for my lemon machine?
The fact is that my family and I have lost hundreds of dollars on torn and ruined clothing caused by a new washing machine! After the boot was installed, or replaced (I’m not sure exactly what was done), we are experiencing the exact same problem. When the L.A.R. Service people left last time, they told me the problem was solved. It wasn’t. This is not normal. This is a lemon machine.
It's one thing to have clothes destroyed, but what is extra frustrating is that I never know when the machine is going to destroy an article of clothing. This past Friday, we were preparing to go out of town for our daughter’s basketball tournament. I took the clothes out of the washer on Friday evening to discover that one of the blue uniforms was destroyed. There was no time to replace the uniform and my daughter was out of luck. This means that I cannot put an article of clothing into the washer that I absolutely have to have.
I can’t live this way. This is a relatively new washer that should last 20 years. Right now, I can’t wash any important article of clothing. I’ve been told before that it was all set. Kitty has L.A.R. coming again this Wednesday to repair the machine. What am I supposed to do when it’s repaired? Put a uniform jersey in it? This is a very brief description of the experience I have had over the past 1.5 years with this new machine. The hours, money, disappointment, and utter frustration is more than I can describe in an email. I have attached three photos of recently destroyed items. Unfortunately, I threw away tens of items several months ago when L.A.R. fixed it.
Is this unbelievable? Or are my expectations too high? Is this really what Maytag/Whirlpool has in mind for customer service? Is this really what they mean by standing behind their products? Why wouldn’t or why shouldn’t Maytag replace this machine? How much more time, money, and tears is a customer expected to spend and endure? How do I regain peace of mind and quality of running a household? Am I supposed to toss this machine and buy a new one? Believe me, that’s what I will have to do if I can’t get relief on this problem. There is no way that I can go many more months with this headache. In many ways, buying a brand new machine would be worth the peace of mind, but I am trying to make sure that my family, as consumers, are treated properly. It is also the principle of the thing.
Please advise on any remedies available to me here in Massachusetts and please let me know what additional details should be provided and to whom.
As an aside, Maytag/Whirlpool does not seem to be doing well with their reputation on the internet regarding customer service.

The lack of recall communication is inexcusable, especially since I even went as far as to buy a 3-year extended warranty and still was not notified.
What really set this situation was that the repairman suggested to not buy a Maytag washer and he added that it would not be a problem since Maytag has been purchased by Whirlpool and that the Neptune washer played a part of the ending of Maytag! I would rather have my money back, go somewhere else, and get a new washer. I will never buy anything from Sears again. They could not send a person out for other repairs for 1 week. Then they would have to send out for parts, because the drum is peeling on the tops. So that means more time to wait for parts to come in, and the machine is not spinning out. The cycles are not washing right; sometimes, they wash a cycle 2 times.
Sears does nothing but give you a runaround. And the Morrisville Vt. store manager is so rude. He was talking to me like I was stupid. Now, I have to wait 3 more days before a washer comes in from the warehouse after Sears told me it was coming on 4/24 between 9:45-11:45. Then the manager told me I could take the floor model if I want it today, which has scratches on it.
I was hoping someday to buy the dryer to match the washer. But now, I do not want anything to do with the brand. I bought a Maytag refrigerator also last year. It's beautiful. Everything is in my kitchen, and I have been working on getting everything to match. I am raising my 2 grandchildren and am on a fixed income. They treat people awfully at Sears, and it is too bad Maytag works with them.

After 9 months, the $850 Maytag Bravos started making extremely loud grinding noises during agitation cycle. We had 5 repair tech visits from A&E Repair, Maytag's national repair vendor (and several cancellations + unscheduled visits by same). Each tech said a different part needed to be replaced requiring weeks of waiting for parts deliveries and getting huge boxes delivered to our office and dragging them home since my husband and I work for a living and are not home to accept large parcel deliveries. We had to unpack the washer basket in order to get it into our car and saw it was completely damaged. After 4 months of tech repair visits, using my home as a repair shop, forcing me to take days off from work and still no resolution to the problem, I was finally able to get Maytag to replace the machine.
Our previous washer was original to our 25 year old house before it died. Unbelievably, the new Maytag has the very same problems and we are back on the same merry-go-round. This has become a part time job and super headache. I have never had such a horrible experience with a purchase or company. This is not a case of heavy usage either. We are ready to dump this machine! Do not buy a Maytag or affiliate product - Maytag is the worst!

I purchased the Maytag Neptune set in 2004 and was not informed there was a class action lawsuit and was never notified. When washer quit working, I called Maytag who sold me a $300 service contract. They came out and said they couldn't fix the washer and I needed to buy a new one. I paid a fortune for this piece of junk and now have to spend another $700 to get a new washer. I will never buy Maytag again. How can they get away with selling washers that are on recall and involved in a lawsuit?

My washer has always had an odor, and I clean the gasket. It gets mold on the gasket and smells horrible! Now for my dryer, it has 3 baffles inside that helps turn and fluff the clothes, and 2 of mine have broke off. And that results in clothes that look like they have been in the dryer for weeks. And I take them out as soon as they are done drying.

I purchased a Maytag Centennial Top Load Washer in February 2012. I wish I had understood the workings of the washer before making the purchase. I am not at all happy that the lid locks as soon as the washer starts and unless I push a button to get the lid open. I cannot open the lid to maybe add more items or check to see if the water amount is sufficient or too much. I have no idea how much goes in for each water level. Of course, I cannot take water out but I could put more in if I see it is not enough. And after learning the water levels, I would know just how to determine the level I need. Some man must have designed the panel. Otherwise I am satisfied. I really like the large load capacity. I originally thought I wanted a front load to get a large capacity but this suits me fine.

Maytag/Whirlpool don't care, Customer Service doesn't care - all I hear when I call is, “too bad”, “so sad”, “call a repairman”, so you can spend another $100.00 plus. I hope this doesn't happen with someone else's brand when we buy it. Shame on such a big company.

I own a 2004 "Neptune" front end washer that I've dealt with the terrible smell of stagnant water since I got it. Now the motor went and I was told I need a new washer even though the product warranty information clearly states the motor is covered for up to 10 years. The repairman told us that the motor that's in my machine is no longer being manufactured. How is that my fault? I do not have another $800.00 for a new one, which is now not even a lot of money for a washer. I've already bought 2 washers since I built my home 14 years ago. It's just not right!

I purchased a Maytag washer and dryer (Bravo series) in February 2011. The top edge of the drum in the washer is fraying. I contacted Maytag about the issue and never heard back. Now my dryer is not drying clothes. It feels like there is heat, but after 1 hour, the clothes are all hot and steamy, but still really wet. Our previous washer and dryer was over 10 years old and had no issues whatsoever, we just decided to upgrade to an HE W/D and now after just 14 months, the dryer doesn't work. They don't make them last anymore.

I bought a Neptune Washer in 1999. 6 years later (2005), it started making the "747 landing" noise. It was implied that somehow it was our fault, maybe, something from my contractor husband's pocket. After all, it was a Maytag, and surely there could be no design or engineering flaw! (My daughter still has 34-yr.old one.) We were told the repairs would be so expensive. It would be wiser to buy a new one. Foolish me, I bought another Neptune to match my dryer. Of course, now this one has the same bearing problem and again it's cheaper to buy a new washer. I am angry and not sure how to proceed. Any washer, but especially a Maytag, should last more than 5 - 6 years. I should not have to buy my 3rd washer in 12 years. And if I do, it certainly won't be a Maytag!

My Maytag Neptune had an outer tub bearing fail. I emailed Maytag and a representative called me back and made an offer to repair it with a $299.00 extended warranty. I was recently laid off and felt I could afford, however, I surmised it was all I can do. I can't buy one for that. Well long story short, the tech told me all they will pay for is $350.00 and parts are much more! I had to call them and they said "good news, we are going to give you a check for $174.00". What? I just gave them $300.00. I am livid.

I live alone and bought this unit for long life. After a few short not-used-much years, my washer sounded like a 747 was landing in my laundry room. I am a maintenance person, so I did a bit of troubleshooting and narrowed it down to the bearings installed in plastic on the outer tub that failed. My cost was $600.00 to $750.00, parts alone. It still worked, just very noisy on high spin.
I emailed Maytag (now Whirlpool) and was phoned by Lee Ann. I told her I had all Maytag appliances in my home and was laid off and that if after the use this washer has had and it will cost this much if I do the work, I was not impressed with this company. She apologized and told me she will issue me an extended warranty for $299.00 that will cover it. I told her that without a job, I cannot make a decision so fast. She gave me the next business day to decide.
I concluded it was cheaper than the part, so I called her back. I was scheduled for a repair, and the man opened the front and looked at it and said it was an outer tub bearing. He went to his laptop in his truck and returned to tell me that they would not authorize that expense and that all they would authorize was $350.00. He put the front of the washer on, then as if he forgot something, took it back off and reached way in the back and did something. Then, he reinstalled the front. I was livid! They charged me $299.00 for a warranty and would not repair!
So I called back and was hung up on. Next, I called my credit card and disputed the charge. I tried to use the washer, and it made funny sounds and then filled up my home with smoke and stopped working. I called Maytag again, and he denied the repairman would tell me how much they would authorize to repair it and told me good news that they would issue a $174.00 check. I gave $299.00, and a few days later, they give me $174.00? This is why Whirlpool is destined to fail. I will never buy again, and I will wash in my laundry tub first! This is exactly why imports will rule! So Whirlpool, you got me for the last time!

First of all, the hoses that came with my washer leaked and were cheap made. My husband put the hoses from my old washing machine on the Maytag. Then, I hadn't had my Maytag washing machine but about two months when I had a problem with the mixer. I had to turn the hot water connection off in order to wash in cold water. When I called the store to explain the situation and ask if they had their own serviceman, the person I talked to made me feel like a complete idiot. He said in his twenty something years of selling Maytag's, he had never heard of such a thing. Anyway, when a serviceman finally came, he also had to replace another part due to a recall. Now, my washer is right at four years old and is leaking from under it. My husband checked the hoses, and they are not the problem. I bought a Maytag thinking I was buying the top of the line but I guess I was wrong. I will not buy another one nor recommend them.

Unsafe Maytag - We have had lousy service from our last purchase of a Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer. I found the inside too so full of lint. I believe it was only days away from catching fire. The blanket of lint I removed from the top of the heating element appeared to be charred and black, a fire ready to start in my opinion.
I will not have this machine repaired. I want this fire trap out of my house. Before you ask, I must add, my wife cleaned the lint trap often. The Maytag Company has not been helpful. I will add that our first set of Maytags gave us many years of good dependable service. What happened to this company?

I called the Maytag CEO's office and talked to a machine. Some really nice lady called me back and said she cannot do anything to help me. They have no consumer person to help you and troubleshoot with you. The washer is rusting, it is an inside washer. I live in SE, Texas and they told me it was due to living close to the coast. If the load gets off balance, you have to wring it out by hand because you can't get it to spin again. I did a load of flannel sheets and it went off balance, wringing sheets out by hand is enough to make a person want to send the machine back and get an old-fashioned wringer washer. And the price to fix is $846. It's essentially a throw-it-away deal. The tech says he has done hundreds of these and it's a 3-hour major tear down, the bearings are press fitted and you essentially buy a new outer tub instead of replacing the bearings in the old one.
