I bought an LG washer and dryer in Jan 2006. I had problems with the dryer, not shutting off after the clothes were dry. It was fixed under warranty after three service visits. However, the washer continues to leak on the floor. I have followed all instructions regarding cleaning the "pump filter" and cleaning of the door gasket. There is still an issue of an odor as well as leaking water on the floor. The wood floor is now damaged and needs to be replaced. I do not know if the washer can be fixed, unless a qualified mechanic knows exactly where the problem is and can be repaired.

The leaking problem has been going on for at least three years. I was changing the amount of clothes being washed as well as the amount of detergent used. Nothing has worked, the washer leaks. Who makes a washer that leaks? LG I guess. I am going to call LG service and also the mechanic who repaired the dryer. After reading all the complaints about the problems with LG washer and dryers, there should be some type of investigation and/or settlement with the obvious defects of these products.

I have scoured the internet and have yet to see a good word about an LG product. I have posted on other sites than this one and will add my ***** about LG to this one as well. This is without a doubt the biggest joke of a business that has ever existed. The $2,000 front load washer and dryer purchased from Best Buy approx. 2 years ago has been the nightmare of appliances. The dryer is noisy and the washer smells of mold. I had replaced both the hot and cold water inlets on the washer. I had a Kenmore washer that I bought for 100 dollars and used trouble free for 4 years. This stuff is just junk all the way around. Customer service is non-existent. Maybe after all those who have already bought this junk inform those who have not bought this junk, this junk company will at last be junked out of business.

I have a LG washer and as most of the complaints here, I have the smell issue and leg level problems as well. I'm glad that I didn't buy the stacking brackets because that could be dangerous problem. I bought this washer because of the recommendation of Consumer Reports as well. There isn't a company that even knows how to deal with these problems. Irritating! I think that I'm going to use my Gorilla glue for the leveling and as for the smell, I guess, I'll keep the washer open so the whole house can smell too.

I bought new LG Tromm Washer and dryer two and a half years ago. Both the washer and the dryer are now giving problems. The dryer runs intermittently and will not shut down. I turned the power off to the dryer. When restored, the power the dryer still began running again. The only way to stop the dryer is opening the door. The dryer does not seal well and has mold growing around the door. We bought these hoping to have bought something that would last for many years. We are considering replacing these units but definitely will never buy another LG product after this.

About 3 years ago, I purchased an LG washer and dryer combo from Home Depot. I had previously owned Whirlpool appliances (1st set lasted 14 years, 2nd set lasted 12 years) and was looking to buy another set of Whirlpool washer/dryer. However, at Home Depot, I was told that Whirlpool was no longer reliable and was making very poor products. I was foolishly persuaded to buy LG products. Big mistake!

When the products were delivered, the washer worked fine. However, from Day 1, the dryer has been terrible. To dry a small load of clothes requires running it through the cycle at least 3 times. If the load is larger, it may take 5 or 6 times. It is ridiculous. My 12-year-old Whirlpool could dry circles around this "state-of-the-art" non-dryer.

In calling LG service, I have never encountered anyone who has actually been trained in customer service. They seem to have a manual to refer to where they blame the customer if their machine does not work. When I have called them about the non-drying issue, they have variously blamed it on the vent (it has been cleaned repeatedly), dryer sheets (haven't been used since this was pointed out as a problem), or on the size of loads. They usually recommend reducing the size of the load. If I reduce my load from 2 bath towels and 2 hand towels to something smaller, I may as well use a hand-held hairdryer to dry my clothes! The service department is of no help whatsoever!

I intend to go on every website that I can find and register my complaints so that other people will not go through what I have been through. I will never buy a LG product again! My dryer is absolute junk and LG does not stand by its products. I also intend to include Home Depot in any complaints since they obviously were hard-selling this product. I can only conclude that they don't care about their customers in the least and helped slime us by promoting LG products against our best interest.

I would certainly join any class action suit against this company. In my opinion, it is the "Toyota" of home appliances in every bad sense. It refuses to acknowledge its culpability in the design and/or manufacture of its obviously defective products. At least Congress is forcing Toyota to do recalls and make repairs. Who is going to help us with LG? Please tell everyone you know what junk LG makes and about its non-existent customer service. If their sales start to fall, maybe someone will actually pay attention.

Six months ago we bought an LG washing machine and dryer from the local Home Depot. They came and installed it (stacked on top of one another) as promised. We noticed that the machines rocked during the washing machine's spin cycle (the feet on each side come up off of the floor when it does so), but it didn't rock so much that we felt in danger of it actually tipping.

Last night, however, about halfway through the wash cycle we heard a very loud banging and the stacked machines began jumping up and down and rocking violently back and forth. My husband ran to them and held them upright while I shut them both down. In the 3 seconds this was happening, the machines moved six inches away from the wall. We opened the washing machine to find the drum sitting on the bottom of the machine, hanging from the rubber lining.

We live in a small house in Brooklyn so our machines are in what also functions as our dining room. Had we not been home (or even been upstairs) when this occurred, the machines would have tipped over, crushing two pieces of furniture and likely pulling away from their water source which is always turned on, very quickly flooding our home. We are now trying to decide what to do about getting it fixed. If this happened in only six months is it even worth having something that dangerous in our home?

We had also read Consumer Reports before making this purchase, which listed this machine as "recommended" (and does so to this day). Having now found out how many people have also experienced this issue, not only will I never buy LG again - I will never turn to Consumer Reports for advice. Oh, and our washing machine smells like mold too, by the way. We decrease the effects of that problem (which now seems incredibly mild by comparison) by mopping out the rubber lining with a towel after the last wash of the day and never closing the door. Any enterprising lawyers out there looking for a class action lawsuit?

I have the same issue as everyone else. The mold in the rubber part of my machine is gross. I never close my washing machine as I always try to dry it out. I'm glad to read I'm not the only one that has to clean my washing machine. I should not have to clean a 2-year-old machine. So much for using consumer reports when buying a high priced item!

I have to clean the washing machine with Q-Tips to remove the mold build up. I'm considering buying another brand as the mold is now turning black on the rubber. Cleaning products will not remove the mold.

I purchased what I thought was a state-of-the-art LG washer/dryer around 3-4 years ago. I immediately noticed my clothes did not smell clean. I thought it was because I was not using to a front load type washer and that I just needed to adjust the way I was doing the laundry and maybe I need to use a different type of detergent. I have tried every thing. The washer and my clothes stink.

I told my husband I had had it. I was going to have to purchase a new washer. I can't stand this smell anymore. I rinse my clothes up to three times sometimes and they still smell bad. I leave my washer door open. I put a container of baking soda inside to absorb moisture. I buy products that you are supposed to cycle through you washer for odors. I've used less soap, more soap, bleach, febreeze, hot water, cold water--nothing helps. I decided to go online to see if there were other complaints. I knew there must be. Surely I couldn't be the only one with the problem. I was really glad to know I'm not alone. They should be liable for this. This has created a great deal of stress and extra time and money trying to get my clothes to smell good, not to mention that they were very expensive and I've got to replace. I just can't stand the smell anymore!

We purchased an LG front end washer and dryer in January 2009 from Home Depot, based on its reputation. We have the exact same problem that everyone else has written about... the mold and the terrible smell. We had a service technician come out and advised us what we could do for the smell. We have tried everything from bleach, less soap, drying out the rubber seal and the drum, cleaning out the trap, leaving the door ajar (we leave it open all night after the last load), the tablets sold to clean the machine etc. Nothing works.

We spent a lot of money on the set. Maintenance on an appliance is necessary, but this is absolutely stupid. We have to clean the machine after each day of laundry if we don't want our clothes to stink. This is becoming extremely expensive to be cleaning the machine on a daily basis along with the wear and tear on our clothes as they need to be rewashed constantly.

This needs to be taken care of. We need some help in dealing with this problem. We are having the constant smell in our home from the washer and the ruining of clothes due to the excessive washing that has to be done to get rid of the smell. We would never buy another front end washer due to this problem.

3 years ago, we purchased the LG frontload washer & dryer and the LG bottom freezer French door refrigerator and have regretted it since. The washer is extremely noisy and shakes violently during the spin cycle. (We had the repairman come out shortly after it was installed only to tell us it was working fine.) There is a strong mildew/mold odor coming from the washer even though I periodically run bleach through the cycle and leave the washer door open when not in use to air it out (recommended by a friend with same issue). Clothes often come out looking and smelling less than fresh.

4 weeks ago (2 months after the warranty expired), the washer would not turn on. The repairman came out the following week only to tell us that the power board was fried and needed to be replaced. He would have to order the part. It took 2 weeks to get part from LG. The repairman came back out and after spending 45 minutes, he was not able get this one to work either (defective). He now has to reorder the part again and tells us this will take another 2 weeks. He tells us that he "always have problems with LG and that they have terrible customer service."

We have given up on the refrigerator. We had the repair service out 4 times in the first year because the freezer constantly went out and the entire contents thawed and then it was leaking water that would frost the entire contents. We often had to chop out the ice that layered the bottom of the freezer. We stopped using the freezer altogether for over a year and then inexplicably the freezer started working about 6 months ago. Still we do not use it much though, because I just don't trust it to be reliable. I will never buy another LG product.

I deeply regret my choice of purchase in an LG washer/dryer set due to this company's extremely poor customer service. We have a six-month old dryer unit that we discovered has a buckled under carriage. I only found it due to the stacked unit vibrating severely during the washer spin cycle. I thought it was a simple broken foot until the repair guy discovered that the entire front under side is caved in. LG informed me that "cosmetic" issues are not their responsibility and that "consumers typically fail to inspect the underside of washers and dryers". Who would think to inspect the bottom of a washer or dryer?

The saga got worse after I tried to seek help from Home Depot where we bought them (Sandy, Utah store). Two days after my service appointment, I was called by Home Depot on conference call with LG to schedule another service "to have the problem taken care of." The LG rep scheduled the appointment from 8 am to noon. I thought as was well with the world and that customer service reigns! That is until the service tech never showed.

I called Home Depot, who again conferenced with LG. This LG customer service rep called the tech and then told me that they had already informed me they weren't going to help. My question, which this woman couldn't answer, is how this fact didn't come up in the conference call the day before when the appointment was scheduled? Why the hell would they have scheduled the appointment in the first place? I took another morning off of work for their guy to never show up and for no one to call me to say they weren't coming.

This customer service rep happened to be "dealer support" and she also spent about three minutes too long telling Home Depot that customer complaints need to go through another department, but she "will go ahead and try to assist you". So, if they are rude and unhelpful to their dealers, why would they be any different to the customer? I am kicking myself for not asking more questions when Home Depot magically called to say they were going to get things taken care of.

These are expensive items and this company's approach is appalling. My Home Depot store is now trying to see if their manager will help us pay for the repair. I am not hopeful. If they won't assist, I am going to try to return the units. These items came into my house severely damaged and I will not bear the burden (about $300) to repair them. After reading several comment boards about the legitimate appliance failures of their product, I now wonder what would happen if something that is supposedly covered under warranty broke. I doubt my experience would change. Customer service should be a key ingredient to any business model, but LG apparently missed the memo on this. I spent $725 on a dryer that has extreme physical damage. I lost two days of work.

I purchased an LG washer 5 years ago and have had major problems with it. After owning it 2.5 years, a sensor had to be replaced costing me $285.25. At that time my repairman said he has repaired many LG washers and that they are in his opinion a "low-end product" at a high-end price". I never thought about his comment until yesterday when I had to have him come out again. (2 years later) New problem: When my washer hits the spin cycle it sounds like a 747 is landing in my house. Woke up yesterday and found my laundry room flooded with oily water. He said that the drum and rear bearings are shot. He gave me a $442.00 estimate to fix it.

At this point, I would be spending close to $700.00 just for the privilege of having an LG product. That is $140.00 extra a year for every year of ownership. Had I purchased a unit that was "cheap" I might of expected it not to last; however, spending $1200.00 for the washer. It should last longer than 5 years. The repairman gave me the number for LG customer service and told me "good luck they have the worst customer service and do not stand behind their products". I called and he was correct. They don't. I purchased this brand because 5 years ago Consumer Reports listed them as good quality. My next letter is directed at Jim G. My advice is not to purchase any LG product based on their customer service.

The machine is noisy and shakes violently during the spin cycle after it was professionally installed and balanced. The odor from the rubber seal is disgusting and clothes don’t come out clean. On April 4, 2008, I purchased for $1709.92 from Home Depot in Murfressboro, TN an LG washer/dryer combo model WM3431HW for my kennel. This appliance was recommended for that purpose by a Home Depot salesman who said it was a top-of-the-line appliance. The machine worked more or less well until December 17, 2009, when it shorted out during a wash cycle. It blew the house breaker and leaked all over the floor.

I contacted HD who recommended a local repair company (MARS) as the only one that would work on this appliance. The HD salesman John ** said that there was an LG special two-year warranty in effect at the time I purchased the machine. Today, they denied this. The MARS repair man said the machine would cost more to repair than the cost of a new machine and then would still be a crappy machine.

I called LG Customer Service and spoke with "Louis" who said we had to call their designated repair company Bottoms Appliance (second service call charge) who also said that the machine would cost more to repair than a new one and that until they got into it, they couldn't be certain how much it would cost as there was a lot of water damage inside from it leaking on itself.

Neither LG nor HD wants to do anything about the situation. But 19 months is far too short a time for a major appliance to last unless they are defective. The 74 pages of complaints just about washers on this website since just 2006 suggest that these machines are substandard, defective, and sometimes dangerous--that it threw the breaker suggests an electrical problem that could have resulted in a fire had the breaker not blown.

Complaints about other LG products suggests a widespread (even worldwide) problem with these appliances. Now, it seems like a very good time for a class action suit against the manufacturer and its major retailer Home Depot.

None of them knew what they were doing. The first two replaced the main board. The third did nothing. He said he didn't know what else to try.

So I've been living with it for over 2 years now. My clothes constantly stink and I am so sick of it. I contacted Home Depot customer satisfaction department and they also did nothing. Stay away from LG! I have a fridge that is bad too. I've had to take my clothes to the Laundromat if they are nice clothes that I don't want to stink.

The mental anguish of it is terrible because you pay so much for an appliance and you don't know who to turn to for help. I've also spent so much time waiting to speak to a person on the phone and then waiting all day for repairmen when they never tell you what time they will show up. I've given up after many tears. I purchased an LG front loading washer about eight months ago. The first one was delivered damaged and was replaced one week later. I built a platform for it to sit on so it was easier on our backs to use. The machine would not balance and consistently walked around on the platform. The other day, it actually fell off, breaking the water lines and was laying on its front side still running. I was able to shut it off and got help setting it back on the platform. I put a barrier around the machine so it could not walk off again. I balanced the platform, and then the machine, using a level and checking top sides, front/back and diagonally from front to back. It still will not balance when spinning.

I called service and the person answering the phone spoke broken English which I had difficulty understanding. They said that I could purchase their platform or set the machine on the floor. I asked for service to check it out but they just kept saying it was designed to be on the floor or screwed to their platform. When I purchased it, I was told that I could easily build my own platform.

I also purchased the matching dryer. It doesn't dry the clothes and has to be run twice on the automatic cycle. Consumers Reports rated this equipment best for its class. It is horrible and a giant waste of money. I will never purchase from LG again. The equipment is dented, scratched and continues to rock and roll when spinning. Any machine that falls off a pedestal and still keeps running is a safety hazard. My old machine would just shut off if it got out of balance.

6 years ago, we purchased an LG front load washer and dryer (dryer DLE2532W). A few months ago the drum started to crack apart. I called the 800-243-0000 number and explained the situation. All I was continually told was that my warranty is only a year (1). I explained that I understood that, but I didn't feel that a steel drum should be falling apart after just 5 and 1/2 years. I asked if they did not care about the quality of their products - that this appeared to be a flaw in manufacturing. As I was quite certain that they would not be manufacturing a dryer that would fall apart in 5 and 1/2 years - of course at this point it appears to me that they do not care.

After going round and round with Cheryl ** of the customer service department she actually hung up on me. I repeatedly asked to speak with her direct supervisor and she told me that the call would not be escalated any further. She did tell me that her direct supervisor was Daniel ** and that he was not at his desk. I told her that I would be glad to leave a message, but she just continued to tell me that she would not escalate my call any further and then hung up.

The customer service at LG is appalling - I will never ever purchase another LG product. And any company that can only afford to cover their products with a 1 year warranty should be ashamed! I understand that parts that are subject to wear and tear are your responsibility, but a steel drum should not fall apart!

LG should be ashamed. I hope this information helps another consumer make a better decision when purchasing products regardless of what you are looking for - the customer service at LG is awful!

I purchased from Home Depot on 11/19/2007. The first two items were delivered--they were defective and were not installed. The third one began leaking from underneath almost immediately but not always a discernible amount. I had bought a plastic tray to set the stacked pair in but was told by HD installers that it would not be necessary, so I returned it. My new ceramic tile floor is scummed up, but I am hoping that there is no real damage as it has only leaked into the next room twice and I usually try to wipe up as much as I can reach right away.

I have called repairmen three times on this issue (only problem I have had), but they are never able to recreate it in the 15 minutes or so that they can work on it, and even though they see the photo and the scum marks under the washer, LG has refused to replace the washer. I routinely check the filter but have never found anything in it, so it is not a clogged filter. I am planning to move to a house with a wood floor, and there is no way this washer should be used anywhere except on a cement floor next to a floor drain.

Like everyone else, this is the most expensive washing machine I have ever purchased, and it is, by far, the worst as well. LG customer service is just propaganda. I kept a "leak log" for the year 2008 where I recorded what cycle, what I was washing, etc. I am about to launch an effort to get Home Depot to stand behind this junk since I purchased an extended warranty. But I don't really expect them to care much either, frankly.

From the reading here, I expect that everyone who sold this product is getting pummeled with dissatisfied customers. These defective washers would have been recalled if LG were a reputable company. I think that U.S.A. should quit exporting this junk and a class action suit should be filed against these bold and brazen junk dealers. I am being reminded every time I wash a load of clothes how I wasted $1,300 on a piece of scrap metal by falling for marketing hype.

The LG Laundry Washer/Mdl: WM0642HW s/n 802KWBY009 was purchased almost two years ago; the moldy smell is horrible once the clothes are washed and the machine walks across the laundry room floor when it goes into the spin cycle. The first time service was called, we were told it was a balance thing and it was taken care of (in May 2008). Then this time, we were told there is nothing they can do because they now are claiming it's the flooring the machine is on and it now needs to be placed on a cement floor. This isn't an option for us since the laundry room is on the main floor of the house, along with the plumbing. When we purchased this model, I specifically asked Best Buy if there would be an issue with placing the washer on a linoleum floor and I was told "no" (The floor was only 2 years old at the time).

I have repeatedly asked LG for a refund since we've been told that it will continue to do this going forward by the service men that have come to our home. I'm very happy with the dryer, I just need a washing machine that bounced across the floor and blocked the doorway to the laundry room. Best Buy has washed their hands of this as well. We were also told that we should purchase the shock-absorbers that they now sell (which they didn't have when we bought the machine) because they are now seeing problems with the vibration of the washers. Again, I asked if the flooring is an issue with these machines and the same person that sold me the set in March 2008 said "no, the flooring shouldn't be a problem." My warranty expired on 3/29/09. By far it truly isn't a quiet machine as advertised. How do I go about getting a full refund through LG and returning it to Best Buy? Any help in getting this rectified is greatly appreciated.

This washer has never cleaned the laundry properly from day one, especially towels. If I had not bought the extended warranty, this washer would be at the scrap yard.

I bought an LG Tromm washer (model WM2277HS) less than 3 years ago and it is a total piece of junk. I am having the same issues with mold and mildew and nothing works to get rid of it or fix this build up problem. And even thought the idiots that work for LG's customer support seem to think the hundreds of people having these issues do not know how to properly do laundry or clean their machines, the fault is with this company’s cheap and poorly made products.

I spent over $1200 on this worthless mold infested waste, and am stuck with no help from a horrible company. I will never buy LG again, and am also contacting the Better Business Bureau along with some other consumer agencies to complain as well. LG won't admit it, but they know the fault is with their machine, and particularly this terrible model. Funny coincidence that suddenly this model is no longer being carried in most of the stores and isn't even available on LG's website any longer, yet they still try to say the machine is fine and everyone else is at fault.

I hope their CEO gets trapped in a room with his moldy, faulty washers for a week and then maybe he will do something about the millions of dollars consumers have wasted on their junk appliances and illness problems so many people have had to deal with thanks to them. Yeah, “Life is Good” for this terrible company because they are ripping off millions of people every year.

I can't allow my children to go into the laundry room because I am afraid of the mold and mildew problem with this washing machine. I have wasted tons of money or cleaning products to try and fix this problem with no changes at all. I clean the machine more than the manual suggests and still no solutions. And of course I wasted over $1200 on the junk washer that isn't even 3 years old, and now have to put out money for a new one. I will never buy any LG products again, and will gladly warn anyone I see even looking at their appliances whenever I am in a store in hopes to save them from wasting money and time.

I purchased a front loading washer from LG, and it had a problem with the control panel. After much fighting and fussing, they replaced the washer. When the guys came with the washer, they did not know how to install it because they were only delivery people. Anyway, they struggled and installed it. I am not sure if it is properly installed.

When the washer is spinning, it is very, very loud and it shakes and bounces. On the other wall is my china cabinet; when the washer begins to shake, I can hear my dishes shaking in the cabinet, and my daughter can feel the vibrations upstairs in her bedroom. I have called LG several times and had technicians come out several times, and LG's answer is that I should have the washer in the basement on a concrete floor and not on a second floor. Yesterday, I spoke to one of them who told me that the washer should not be on a second floor. I told her that LG does not have that posted on their machines when you go to purchase them, and she told me that the sales rep should have told me that before I purchased the machine.

The thing that none of them can explain to me, is how come that I had the same exact machine, same make, model and color in the exact same place and it never had that problem. No one at LG seems to be able to answer that question. Are there any legal steps that I can take to get my washer fixed? I have not even touched the problems with the odor. My family has a lot of allergies, and the odor and mold is not good for our health. Also, there is the potential of the cabinet falling and hurting one of my family members. I would like to prevent any damages.

Within two weeks, we discovered that our towels and undershirts came out of the wash with holes, rips and/or tears. We've had a technician out three times in less than a month. The only problem being that they tell us that if they can't find anything wrong with the machine and there is nothing wrong with it and, therefore, there is nothing to be repaired. Just because they can't find the problem doesn't mean there isn't one. At the rate we're going, we won't have a decent towel or article of underclothing to our names. The first problem was the odor as many of you already know, so then you have to go purchase another product to get rid of the smell, that runs you into more money. That rubber ring does get all moldy, it's nasty! For the last few months it, doesn't finish the cycle all the time. Then sometimes it will finish all cycles, you open the door to take the clothes out and surprise a flood all over the floor then to my rug! I have had a repair man here, who thought it was fixed it wasn't I called around Christmas and hadn't heard about an appointment. So, I learned just to put the machine on spin cycle only after it was done to make sure all the water drained out. Well, tonight is the cherry on the topping!

My husband, son and I were watching TV and all of a sudden a big bang then gosh, well the washer door flew open hitting the door that is next to it and water just was gushing out everywhere. Called repair, doesn't open till tomorrow, called LG they never heard of such a thing! So here I am, they want me to get there repair man for 75.00 and up to fix or maybe renew my warranty. I don't think so. I don't want to give them another penny. If this letter helps a least 1 person, it was worth it! Unlike my machine. A full load of queen size sheets and pillowcases reads as the smallest load, getting very little water (not enough to get everything wet). It constantly requires use of the water plus and second rinse button just to run a routine load, clearly defeating the water saving feature of the machine! I have tried dumping extra pitchers of water into the machine since it seems to gauge load size by weight, soaking a beach towel and adding it to the load even though it is clean, running the entire load through the rinse and spin cycle with no rinse so it's completely wet and then running the "normal" wash cycle. Nothing works. I paid $2,000 for a washing machine that does not wash properly! Service personnel are incredibly rude and would not even send out a $10.00 leveling wrench that the Best Buy installers forget to leave behind - ended up charging me $10.00 for the wrench and $16.00 for shipping! It's incredible on a purchase of more than $2,000! The code LE would show and I tried over and over to get this thing to start again, turning it on and off, unplugging it, restarting the cycle. Every time it would stop again after being on a few minutes.

I could not readily put my hands on the information of contact to call for service, so I went online and ran across this website. I can identify with all the problems listed, because we have them as well: the smell, front door leaking, cycles incomplete, the drum not turning, etc. I mean everything that was listed, I experienced it. Clothes were ruined, there was the bad smell of mildew and an expensive machine that does not work.

LG front load washer (model no. WM2277HW) was purchased on 8-29-2004. I have had an authorized service agent working with LG Technical Support to fix this washing machine due to an error code (LE) during wash cycle. After two months and over $300 of parts and labor, the service agent determined that the 5-year-old washer was irreparable. I have contacted LG Customer Service numerous times with no help to resolve this issue. The first customer service representative I spoke with (12-9-2009) informed me that if the service agent would call Technical Support and tell them that the washer was irreparable, they would start this replacement process. This was done.

When I contacted LG the following day (12-10-2009), a different customer service representative informed me that there was nothing he could do and transferred me to a supervisor (Delano). The supervisor informed me that the washer was not irreparable just because their "authorized" repair service could not fix it. The only solution that the supervisor offered was to find another repair center in my area and get the information to LG so that they could authorize them to fix the washer. I spent the next two hours calling service repair centers in my area (5) and non-local repair centers (2). All seven of the service repair centers refused to work on the washer stating that they could not fix the problem.

I called LG to speak with the supervisor again; however, the third customer service representative that answered the phone would not allow me to speak with the supervisor. He did, however, suggest that they had an LG technician in my area that for an additional $75 charge could come out and diagnose the problem. When I reminded him that I have had an authorized service agent and LG Technical Support working on my washer for two months and the problem has already been diagnosed at the cost of over $300, he very rudely said that there was nothing else he could do for me.

This washing machine is approximately 5 years old. There is no power to the unit. The main control board was replaced by the service agent with direction given from LG Technical Support on one of his earlier visits, but it no longer works. The gears are stripped in the motor. The bearing on the rear drum is seized up and the drum will not spin. The washing machine is no longer under warranty; however, all of the parts with the exception of the control board are still covered under the seven-year parts warranty. To replace the control board, the gears, the rotor, the stator, and the rear drum assembly, plus the cost of labor will cost more than a new washer not counting the $300 I've already spent to replace the control board which is now defective.

The LG customer service representatives have been very rude and unwilling to offer any other solution than for me to give them more money for a washing machine that is obviously of poor quality and not worth the cost of the repairs. I will never buy another LG product due to the unprofessional, discourteous customer service staff, incompetent technical support staff that took approximately two months (5 service visits) to diagnose the initial problem, and the overall quality and durability of the washing machine.

We purchased the LG front loader washer and dryer 18 months ago. We also had a serious problem with the clothes smelling badly until my wife switched to Tide powder instead of liquid. We do not have that problem anymore. Clothes do not come out as clean as they did with our old machine though. Our big problem happened two months ago - the dryer drum cracked and the dryer does not work. It will cost $150 plus a delivery fee for the new drum. I don't know what it will cost to have someone repair it. We contacted Sears and LG and were told by both of them that it is not their problem. I cried.

We saved to buy these machines. My husband wanted to surprise me and got what he thought was the best product. He even got them in cherry red. I was disappointed about the smell and the substandard cleaning, but I am heartbroken about the dryer not even working. Our clothes have become dingy, and I am now washing all the clothes and taking them over to the laundromat to dry.

LG washers and dryers are nothing but a piece of crap. I've read the emails on this website and I confirm all of them. LG should have a class action suit against them to have their products taken off the market because of bad design, poor workmanship in building their appliances, etc. I purchased an LG washer/dryer combo from Home Depot in September 2008 and have regretted that decision ever since. As a senior citizen, I have had a few appliances in my lifetime, but none can be rated so low as to in my opinion to be taken off the market.

My complaint along with the constant upkeep to keep this machine working is the control panels on both the washer and dryer. The washer control panel went within the first year and the dryer is just a little over 2 years old and that one has experience the same problem. You push and you push the button and nothing happens. Now, the Sears repairmen, after having been to my house 3 times, have to order another control panel because the replacement panel is defective. This shows poor quality, poor workmanship and no quality control. And, along with the rest of the respondents on this site, everyone that I know will hear about LG and their products.

After researching, I found this to be a common problem with no remedy from the manufacturer. When contacting LG, we were told that they could not help since the dryer is out of warranty. The dyer also now says that it's in cooling mode 100% of the time (but it still dries fine). The washer has the mold problem as well. We just clean the gasket regularly and it helps. Do your self a favor and do not purchase an LG appliance unless you can afford the repairs. The company will not help you. The drum is now going to cost $150 plus delivery.

I have had to throw away a lot of clothing. My husband always complains about the smell of his clothes and the towels. I heard on the news about the mold problem and checked it out. Of course, there is mold within the rubbing lining along the door. I have also let the door open to allow the washing machine to dry out. My child has serious allergies. We purchased an LG front load washer (model # 2688hwma) on August 12, 2008. Everything was running good until it started making a lot of noise around June 2009. At the time, I had an LG technician (Harriet) working on my refrigerator and had him to take a look at the washer as well. He said the drum in the washing machine is the cause of the noise during the washing cycle, which needed to be changed immediately. He told me that he will place an order for parts needed for my washer, and I was advised to call LG customer service later in the day. I called LG (800-243-0000) to schedule an appointment for servicing the washing machine and told her that the technician had examined the washer and had gone ahead to order parts needed for the repairs. A week later, LG technicians Harriet and Michael started taking apart the washer and removed the drum that was causing the noise.

I wasn't watching them every moment until I heard loud banging and decided to see what was going on. They were trying to remove the "alter tub" apart from "drum". After 1 1/2 hour had passed, they came to realize that these two pieces were sealed together and will need to be replaced with a new set. Because of the banging, the center rod has broken the seal, which may cause leaks. So they came back with the new drum for the washing machine, and I noticed the drum had huge dents all around the drum. I told Harriet that this is unacceptable and I would prefer a new drum with no dents to be replaced back to my less than a year old washing machine. So the washer was pushed to another week until for another new drum to arrive.

Finally, on July 14, 2009, Harriet and Michael came with a new drum and started putting back the machine together, and I noticed he was removing the rubber gasket from the problem drum. I had asked him, “Why are you replacing the old gasket to the new drum?” I called the customer service immediately and was advised that rubber gasket was not ordered during the time when the drum was ordered. He simply said, "This is fine and is not broken.” So I had no choice but to take his advice since he is a certified LG technician. So after they left, I felt relieved to have my washing machine back in order and started doing my laundry.

I noticed on the second load that there was water on the floor. I immediately called customer service to have them come back to fix the problem that might had been caused by the repair, but she said they will be on vacation until August. I told them that this needs to be fixed since I am still under the first year warranty. They had advised me to get the extended warranty for my washer and I did. I had a technician from "DIAL", an authorized LG service center, come to take a look at the leak, but he said he can't find the leak and cannot stay and wait for the leak to happen. So, I called the LG people again to set another appointment about the leak, and he came again and did nothing to fix the machine because he cannot stay and wait for the leak to happen. At this point, I called LG and she said she will get a 2nd opinion from another authorized LG technician to come out to see my leak problem.

It is September 2009; I get three technicians from B&H appliances. Before they came, I had put in a load in, so when they arrive, they can see where the leak was coming from. They made me remove my wet clothes out of the washer and then shut off the water supply before the source of the leakage. So, how are they going to find where the leak is, when there is no water? And the floor had gotten wet from removal of the wet clothes, so it was even more difficult to see where the leak was coming from. They just lifted the machine in an angle at the bottom to see where the leak was. They didn't find a leak because they shut off the water supply, and they were on their way out the door because they did not see any leak. After they left, I replaced the wet clothes into the washer, and in no time, water was coming out under the machine, and this time, it was a lot worse than it was before they started working on the bottom and the top side of the interior of the machine.

I called LG again, and I spoke to someone from customer relation department named Dorothy. She said there is nothing they could do because they had a 2nd opinion and found that there is no leak. Also, they made an assumption that I was not using "HE" detergent because the technician saw an old bottle of non-HE detergent in the laundry room. Mind you, this LG washing machine is less than a year old, and of course, I had regular detergent lying around from my old washing machine. I clearly stated that she already had taken sides and this was not fair. They never asked me what detergent I was using and made assumption. Also, I told her they were here only for 10 minutes and the problem wasn't fixed.

I had spent more time over the phone trying to explain the leak than for the repairmen to fix the problem. What is the point of having the extended warranty when the customer service and the repairmen did not do anything to fix this ongoing problem from day one? She advised me to look into hiring a technician to access the problem out of my own pocket and file a claim report that I “maybe” be reimbursed. I don't think I should take out any more of my money to fix a leak, which I know it was caused by them and was under the first year warranty.

I will also follow up with the class action lawsuit listed in complaints. When large companies take advantage of the consumer with the defective products it sells, they leave no options. I will never buy anything LG again: from a cell phone, to a TV, or anything with LG on it. I am done with them.

We purchased a front loading LG washer and dryer. From the very beginning, the washing cycles are over an hour. Some cycles are even 2 hours. I couldn't figure out why the clothes were smelling sour. I kept asking my husband what could be causing the clothes and towels to stink as they do. I would rewash them over and over. Sometimes I would use our other washing machine and dryer, and they would still smell. But if I washed clothes with our washer downstairs, dish towels, etc., items that were on our first floor, there was no odor. Now after reading complaints on the LG washer and dryer, I realize what the smell is all about. Plus, our dryer isn't working after only 3 years and there are only two of us living here. The dryer doesn't heat up after 2 years with only 2 people living in the house. There is no reason why they can't build washers and dryers like they used to. I had my Maytags for a bit over 20 years raising 4 kids. Go back to the basic washer and dryer. I will never buy or recommend an LG appliance.

Whatever you do, do not purchase LG appliances! I purchased a refrigerator, a dishwasher, and washer and dryer from store # 6372 at Sunrise Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33304. Less than a year has passed, and I have had the service representative at my house three times and counting for my refrigerator. It's not even a year old. The corporate office handed me over to Mr. Glenn. He told me I needed to buy an extended warranty for my refrigerator. It's obviously a lemon. It had three services in less than eight months. I explained that I did not purchase a refrigerator to have all these problems. He said there was nothing that he could do. Can you imagine that? I called the corporate office of LG, and they told me there was nothing they could do. Well, they did actually. They sent me down the river. Well, here I am to tell my story, hoping to deter anyone from purchasing an LG appliance. I'm actually going to put a sign in my front yard that says "Don't buy LG products. They stink! Ask me!"

My washing machine stinks after using it. They told me I need to leave the door open after using. Otherwise, you have to go buy tablets to remove the smell from it. Run a cycle and use electric and water, so that it won't smell. Imagine that. Hey, I'm buying a new car, and after I drive it, I need to open the hood and leave it open, so it won't smell. Wow! They sure don't tell you these things when you go to buy them. They should have installed a heating element to dry the washer after you use it. I guess not. Leave the door open, so you can bang into it! Well, folks, I have not even hooked up the dishwasher yet due to construction. I'm sure I'm in for more grief as well! I called Home Depot, and you know what they said - Sorry, pal. So please, whatever you do, do yourself and your wife, significant other, or family a huge favor; Don't buy LG appliances! We bought an LG front load washer from Best Buy in 2008. Soon after we purchased it, it started smelling like mold and soured clothes. We have tried cleaning out the rubber lip around the door, we leave the door open and we never leave wet clothes in it. We have run an empty load with bleach, nothing works. The smell just keeps getting worse. When people come over, they always ask about how I like my washer and I tell them we hate it. I regret buying it. With so many people having the exact same problem with this washer, you would think LG would do something about it. When a machine's sole purpose is to wash clothes and your clothes come out smelling like mold and mildew, there's something seriously wrong.

Mold problems with your LG washing machine? I believe I have the answer to the question as to why the expensive LG washing machine you bought is not working correctly. See if this doesn't sound familiar. The machine started out working like a champ. Well, it should have, you paid a little extra money for it. But it looked good and the reviews (by the way, who wrote these reviews? The company? Buyer beware!) were great. Then, your clothes started smelling a little funny. Your initial reaction was, I must have left the wet clothes sit too long in the washer. But then, the smell got worse and was more consistent. So you got on the internet to see if you could find any information about it, maybe someone has had the same problem and they found a solution. Lo and behold, you aren't the only one with this problem.

As it turns out, there are many people with the same problem with about as many solutions - clean the drain and run a hot cycle, use bleach, use vinegar, wipe the gasket out and leave the door open after each use, buy a special product, it works wonders, etc. But wait a damn minute, I didn't buy this machine at ACME discount appliance store. I bought a name brand at a reputable store and I paid a premium for the machine. I shouldn't have to do this. Ladies and gentlemen, I have done more research (physical and digital) than I have should ever have had to do and this is what I have discovered: The machine does work great, at first. After each use, water accumulates in the rubber gasket that seals the door/drum. Mold grows in the damp area created in the rubber gasket. OK, there's the problem.

The fix? Unfortunately, there isn't a magic solution. This washing machine has a design flaw (described above) that LG is, so far, unwilling to admit as it would lose much money refunding money to consumers for a defective product. There is at least one class action lawsuit that I am aware of (Jan 2008). I believe it was entered in court by a law firm from Ohio. You should be able to find it if you Google it (LG washing machine lawsuit). I personally am opposed to class action lawsuits and I believe this country is in desperate need of Tort Reform. However, I also believe that this circumstance is one of those few times where a class action lawsuit is legitimate. LG produced and marketed a product that is defective and it appears the majority of consumers have the same problem.

In the interim, if you want to fix your washing machine, there is only one solution and it isn't easy. The rubber gasket must be removed and cleaned or replaced. The area around the drum must also be cleaned to remove all the mold. Some machines (such as the case with mine) may find other problems - detergent buildup, clogged lines, etc. To take care of these problems, the front of the machine must be disassembled. This will require a licensed appliance repair technician or a handyman, who has a couple of tools. The repairman is a no-brainer. Make a call, get an appointment, tell him what the specific problem is (i.e. you need a new gasket and you need the machine cleaned) and pay the bill.

If you know someone who is handy with "things" (my option), the machine can be disassembled using the schematic from the following website **. This website has step-by-step instruction on how to take the machine apart and get to the gasket. After removing the gasket, I tried to soak it in Oxi-Clean in the sink for a couple of hours, scrub it, then soak it in fresh water for 24 hours, didn't work. I bought a new gasket. Keep in mind, this machine has a design flaw. The problem will reoccur unless you keep the gasket dry after each use. I know this was a lengthy post, but I hope it helps a couple of folks who are pulling their hair out just trying to get what they paid for, a washing machine that washes clothes properly.

He changed them himself but when I complained to the store about the loss of my expensive clothes, they did nothing. Now, I have another problem. I am sick from my LG Washer. The odious stink that comes out from the washer is spreading through the house. I feel nauseated each time I go near the machine. I have tried to run empty cycles using bleach and it lessened the problem for a while but it is back again. What can I do? I can't afford to throw away the machines and buy new ones. LG has to take responsibility for this manufacturing defect in the machine. When I checked, I found out that a lot of people have the same problem with the washer. The mold is a health hazard. On 11/10/2005, I purchased a new LG washing machine. Within 6 months, clothes, sheets, and towels smell moldy. I called LG about this issue, and they indicated that we needed to clean the dispenser and run an empty cycle with bleach, which we did. Clothes still smelled moldy, and today, I know why. I opened the dispenser, and a large clump (1 inch long by 1/8th of an inch wide by 1/8th of an inch thick) of black mold fell into the prewash compartment. I investigated where this clump of black mold came from by removing the dispenser, and I found above the prewash compartment a 2 inch by 4 inch patch of mold that in some areas is 1/4 inch thick. Also, at the back of the opening for the prewash compartment was another 2 inch by 4 inch patch of mold which center has a 1/4 inch thick of mold. I called LG (Ginell) again and described this condition, and I was instructed to simply clean the mold out. This is an obvious defect with this machine.

I bought an LG front-loading washer and dryer from Home Depot in November 2005, totaling approximately $1600. I also purchased an Extended Service Plan for each for $160 ($80 per machine). From November 2005 till approximately January 2008, I had mold problems with the washer. I had a technician under the ESP service. He told me that I was using too much soap and nothing could be done about the mold. Around that time, January 2008, I began to use a little Clorox in 1-2 white loads per week, something I hadn't done before since I don't like using Clorox bleach. It seemed to help the mold problem. Unknown to me, a lot of the Clorox was draining out of the dispenser cup and down the front of the washer while I was pouring it in. With the drawer open while dispensing, I was unaware of this. I would smell Clorox very strongly but didn't think much of it.

In April 2008, I noticed pitted corroded marks on the front panel paint. I called the service people, and they said they wouldn't service that. I continued with my routine until June 2009, when I finally discovered the issue. I had a pile of clothes on the floor in front of the washer, and the Clorox drained on top of them, ruining the clothes. I then find out what was happening. For more than a year, Clorox was draining down the front and sliding under my washer (I have not yet assessed floor damage.) and corroding the paint on the front of my washer. Not only does it look bad, I am worried about the electronics in the front panel.

ESP people came out. The first man said I was filling too full. (Hopefully if I were, there would be safety measures to prevent external exposure.) I was not overfilling. He refused to assess the issue and left. I demanded a second service, and that individual documented the issue clearly and exactly. Now, the Extended Service Plan says they will not do anything about my machine, except replace the drawer. I believe the life of my washer has been compromised by the Clorox leak and feel my machine will not last as long as it might have. I have one more year on my extended service plan.

Needless to say, my husband and I are handy people (good thing). We cannot get anyone to come back and fix our set. I have an extended warranty, no good if you cannot get help. Anyway, all of you LG users, I am with you as well and will never buy another LG product. There should be a recall on these machines.

I did, however, spend my Sunday undoing every hose the machine has to offer and still, the machine gives an error of a drain problem. We manually emptied 6 garbage cans of smelly water, still not fixed. We came back later to tackle the machine and started taking out screws - to no avail. Inside the tub, we removed the 3 long grey "agitators" with the 4 black balls and discovered the grossest black sludge. I am a nurse and am not grossed out easily. I gloved up for this one. Needless to say, I cleaned all of the 3 agitators and soaked them in bleach overnight, cleaned them with a toothbrush.

No, I am not OCD, just don't want to smell funk. After 6 open cycles with bleach (no clothes in the washer), my washer smells clean. Also, the drain that the book shows to clean is also smelling good. Hope this helps someone. The project takes a little time, but if it works, it is less expensive than a repair person or a replacement.

We purchased the LG WM2277HW washer about two years ago. I'm frustrated with this appliance for two reasons. First, we started seeing LE and CE (motor overload) errors within a month of owning the washer. Customer service was marginally helpful. They ended up replacing a part under warranty, but the errors persisted about once a month. We are not overloading the washer. This sometimes happens with very light loads. Second complaint is on the difficulty of finding repair parts. The washer recently started leaking. I can pay a repair service to come look at it ($75 to walk in the door, plus parts and labor to replace). So, I pulled the back panel off and quickly discovered a leaking drain hose. Easy fix, right? Well, it turns out no local distributor carries LG replacement parts.

Finding repair info on LG website is a chore, and it pointed me to a business (Andrews Electronics) serving the West Coast which appears to no longer exist (website down, busy signal on phone after four tries). So, I tried their East Coast service rep, at least their website worked, although the part I needed wasn't available. Finally, I found a $10 replacement hose on Partstore.com. What should have taken 15 minutes ended up consuming two plus hours. The washer performance is okay, but I'm not impressed with LG's customer service and even less impressed with their spare parts business model.

The washer has now developed a leak from the soap dispenser that causes the soap and bleach to run out on the floor. We spoke to LG and were told to wash out the dispenser and area behind the dispenser to clear out soap build up; there was no build up but I washed it anyway. The problem continued and now the front of the unit just below the dispenser is rusting from behind. I'm told that this issue is not covered by warranty and my cost to replace the front panel of the unit is a huge expense. These units cost just under $3000 just over two years ago. Leaks and rust should be covered by the manufacturer with no questions. The washer and dryer I replaced were 20 years old and never leaked or rusted. I have no choice but to live with the leak and rust until I can afford to replace the unit, now discontinued. I only use the smallest amount of HE, gave up on Tide, all to no avail. I have thrown away many, many towels as they seem to retain the smell the worst. The so called energy saving features are a load of crap because you have to add water and an extra rinse cycle so the wash cycle takes over an hour! Within four months, the washer broke after I washed three small, cotton throw rugs (bathroom size rugs) in it. A repairman did service it. He recommended, at that time, rubber footing to reduce vibration. Within three months, this problem has repeated itself after I washed only two small area rugs. This machine is supposed to be a large capacity machine and nowhere in the service manual does it stipulate how much one can launder in it and what cannot be washed in this WM1020CW model. I have several friends who have other brands of front load washers that capably handle regular use by a family of four and the washing of large cotton towels, small rugs and multiple other items.

I purchased an LG Front Loader Washing Machine WM1832CW and LG Electric Dryer DLE2532W from Best Buy. Mold and mildew developed within 6 months on the front gray rubber seal. I always leave the washer door open and thoroughly clean both the seal and washing machine with bleach and Mean Green. I also use Affresh tablets. Nothing resolves the mold & mildew issue. I've even resorted to using a toothpick to clean the very small holes LG has in the seal for the water to adequately drain through which has mold & mildew. It is absolutely gross to think that my clothes are being washing with all that mold & mildew. The clothes stink after being washed, worse than they did before they were washed. My husband has thrown "clean" clothes back into the dirty clothes because he refuses to wear a stinky clean shirt all day at work. This in turn has made me double up on my washing but nothing helps the smell.

I have changed detergents and always use a fabric softener in addition to a bounce sheet in the dryer. Clothes still stink. I even smell the same smell in my closet now. The washing also makes a horrendous noise when spinning regardless whether it is a small or large load. It is level and not unbalanced. In addition, on many occasions, the bleach dispenser has not released the bleach during a load. Before I can wash the next batch, I have to either remove the dispenser cup and dump the bleach into the washer and run another cycle to get rid of the bleach or try to properly dispose of it in another location. It is a good thing that I pay close attention to the bleach dispenser; otherwise, it would have ruined my colored clothes during the next wash if it would have decided to dispense the bleach.

Also, it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to dry towels, even though I have cut the washing of towels into 2 separate loads. We are only 2 people living in the house, and I wash almost every day or at least every other day so it is not like it is overloaded even if I were to put all of the towels in the washer at once.

The LG set is expensive, and I expected so much more than what I got since purchasing the washer and dryer. I heard so many comments that LG was top of the line, so I was determined to get a set regardless of the price. I do regret my decision. I have talked my mother out of buying any front loader washer because of the mold & mildew issue, and I have even alerted a consumer in Sears of the problem while I was passing by them while they were looking at a front loader washer. The only reason I have not replaced the LG set yet is because I paid way too much for this one just to throw it away.

Many will not touch the LG. Finally one repairman came out and thought it needed a new sensor, waited 4 weeks for that part, which turns out not to be the right part. I'm thinking that this poor guy knows nothing about fixing the LG machine; he's been out twice and still the machine sits in the hallway. If you want a washer that breaks in 4 years, and can't find anybody to fix it, this is your brand! LG should make service/repair training a priority.

As soon as we got our new LG washer and Dryer, our washing machine vibrated so much that it shook our whole house. We called LG and they told us that it wasn't installed correctly and needed to be re-leveled. We re-leveled it and it still shook. We ordered special rubber feet off the internet that we supposed would help and the machine still shakes our whole house on the low spin. After all of this, I called LG and demanded to have it serviced - especially since it is a common problem that many consumers have complained about.

The warranty had expired 6 weeks ago and they want to charge us. If they had acknowledged that it was a faulty design and not told us it wasn't installed correctly and needed to be re-leveled, they would have had to fix it when it was still under warranty. It is such a scam. I have called customer service and they might be extending the warranty after I insisted. So, we will see what happens. Also, the machine smells like mold -- which is also a common problem. I would never buy an LG again!

I purchased my LG dryer in March of 2004 and since then, I have had a non-heating issue with it twice. The first time was about 18 months after I bought it, so it was just out of warranty. Recently, I have experienced the same problem and am awaiting a service call in the next few days. I went to a troubleshooting website and found that this is about the number one problem with almost all LG gas dryers. No recalls just because it's not a safety issue? I certainly would not have bought this brand if I knew that this was the case.

Our sixth month old LG front loading washer and dryer's lettering began to smudge for no apparent reason. At this point, we can no longer read many of the words on the machines. Even though our appliances are new and we purchased the best possible warranty, we have been told by both Best Buy and LG that they will do nothing to fix the problem. Both stated it is cosmetic damage and is not covered. I am curious to know how I am supposed to find my washer and dryer cycles. I suppose I will have to write in Sharpie Marker on my brand new appliances.

It is ridiculous. We are so disappointed with both companies. We unfortunately know now that this is a common problem with LG. I do not recommend this product to anyone. I also do not recommend buying your appliances from a company that will not honor its warranties. I do not see how this could be a cosmetic problem as you would not buy a washer and dryer without any lettering. The lettering on the washer and dryer has worn off, making it illegible.

We purchased the LG Tromm WM2277HS in August of 2007. We based our purchase on consumer reports, which gave the LG the highest scores across the board for noise, cleanliness, repair issues, etc. The first machine we had vibrated so badly that it sounded like a space ship was taking off in my house. That was days after having it. Home Depot had a different unit delivered. Since then, we still have had noise problems but even worse shortly after having the new unit, there was a foul smell coming from the washing machine. I have bleached the washer, used vinegar, you name it. The smell is there. You either get nasty sewer smell or the distinct smell of mold!

I am disgusted that we spent so much money, money that we could not necessarily afford on a washing machine like this. I am disgusted with both LG and Consumer Reports. I will never listen to consumer reports again. My guess is that LG made a sweet deal with consumer reports to give their units such high praise. The reviews were so great I'm sure sales went up for LG, of which consumer reports the so-called unbiased source profited as well. There is black junk inside the unit and I am sick of cleaning it. I am also embarrassed as we were so excited to be getting this washer and dryer. Now, we look like fools to everyone.

I hope LG steps up and fixes these machines. I hope consumer reports actually starts reporting the facts because now two years later, the facts are there. Perhaps it's fear of retaliation from customers. Either way, I hope LG pays as it's not fair to all of us as consumers to fork out money for repairs and new machines when the units we have are not even two years old! Ugh!

It is out of warranty, except for the drum and drum motor. But unfortunately, neither of those is the problem. I have been in contact with LG Customer Service 7 times today already. They have supplied me with several phone numbers of repair centers, ranging from 15 to 100 miles away, as well as suggested that I contact someone, anyone, locally. I live in somewhat of a rural area, so my local choices are fairly limited.

Out of 8 attempts, I have gotten the response that the repair centers do not travel this far, they are not willing to work on this combo unit, or both.

In my 7th and last call to LG, basically, I was told "Sorry. As a consumer, I understand; but we cannot help you any further." Do I have any recourse? I bought this unit in good faith, never dreaming that I would need service in less than 3 years' time and certainly never imagining that I couldn't get it serviced when needed. In December of '05 I purchased an LG black washer and dryer from Best Buy in Delafield, WI. It was delivered in January '06. Over the last few years I have had a sporadic problem when it went into the spin cycle. I never thought it was anything serious--just thought the load was off balance. In the last few months this problem has escalated so that it vibrates so hard and loud it actually causes some crystal collectables in a cabinet behind the washer wall to fall off their pedestals. I must point out that I did not purchase a service contract. My husband and son-in-law tried leveling the machine and also called Best Buy for service to come and level (that bill was approx. $133.00). The serviceman suggested buying pads to fit under the machine to absorb the vibrations (cost of approx. $65.14). These pads did not solve the problem. I'm wondering why LG had these pads. Is it possible that other customers had the same problem? I telephoned LG customer service 3 times, spoke to three different customer service reps (Jason, Gilbert, and Alfonso) and received no support.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and I talked to Freddie (he didn't give me his last name). I told him my story, and suggested that perhaps the washing machine was defective from day 1. I do 4-5 loads of laundry per week and I'm away 3 months a year, so the machine in my estimation should have a lifespan of at least 5 years. The repair on this machine is estimated to be around $500-$550. Since I already have the service call and pads bill that brings it to $700-$750. Note: the color black has been discontinued from LG's washers and dryers, so if I replace it I would have two different colored appliances sitting on black pedestals (the pedestals were $229 each). So now we're looking at replacing both washer and dryer so we can have coordinating colors since I have a 1st floor lady room. I am so frustrated with this whole messy situation, but am grateful to have a place to vent. I will be forever grateful if anyone could help me to find a cost-effective solution to this problem.

The front loading LG Washer I purchased for my family back in August 2004, Model #WM2277HB, catastrophically failed. The top, 15 lb. counter balance worked itself free of its mounting posts. It then fell at an angle landing on the large rubber seal at the door opening, wearing holes on the seal. It then broke the third mounting peg off the outer drum causing it to leak and spin out of balance. The counter balance fell to the bottom of the machine, lodging itself against the front face and denting it. The counter balances are mounted on a plastic, two-piece outer drum by four (4) expansion posts. A screw with a wedge head is driven through the post to expand the three arms of the post to keep the weight in place. No washers, clips, or keepers are used to secure counter balance beyond the wedge screw and plastic post, exposing the system to the possibility of losing the weight. Of the four mounting posts, two broke. The other two posts still held the original wedge screw which speaks to the fact that the wedge screw/plastic post design did not hold the counter balance in place during operations. The outer drum construction is 1/8th of an inch thick plastic. Where the posts are molded, the plastic is thinner because of an offset in the mold design. The thinnest spot measured where the post is molded is less than a 3/32nd of an inch thick. This shows how the drum is designed. Great care went into reducing the amount of plastic used to build that drum. These drums like the machine are not over engineered, but designed to save money on material and manufacturing costs.

This problem started shortly after owning the machine for four years around December or November 2008 where it knocked and shook a little. When the machine began knocking louder and leaking, spinning out of balance and jumping across the floor, I investigated the problem. I called LG in early April 2009 to discuss the situation and the damage I found. Photos were taken of all the damage and sent to a case manager, Jose **, (Case #**). After exchanging emails and explaining the problem looked like a design flaw after consulting an LG certified appliance repairman, we received no further communication from LG. A call was made today, June 2, 2009, to follow up with LG and see what assistance they could offer since this is not a typical malfunction. I spoke to a customer service supervisor named Keith. He did not have my file or photos of the problem nor could he find the file. I explained the situation to him and the history noting that we’ve been patiently waiting for a response for nearly 2 months. Keith, armed with his sticky note, simply stated that the washer was out of warranty and there was nothing LG could do. I asked to speak to his supervisor, and he responded that the executives don’t like to get involved in these matters, but he would send them a note to ask if they would like to speak with me. Shortly after buying them, the washer started to smell of mold/mildew, then so did our clothes. I called LG and they told me to use bleach and the tub clean cycle, leave the door open, wipe the seal, clean the drain holes and drain the water! Oh yeah and I should get the Affresh tablets. Then there is the dryer that has from day one taken almost two hours or more to dry the clothes. Now, there is no heat. When I called LG, they had no info for me and were very rude after I expressed that I was disappointed with their product. After spending $1,900 for a washer and dryer, I expected them to last more than 1 1/2 years. I get the impression that LG thinks they are disposable items that I should cough up more money for another set. What has happened to a company standing behind their products!? I got rid of it because I could not get rid of the mildew smell. Foolishly, I bought the LG front loader thinking it was a brand issue with the Frigidaire and the LG would be better. From day one, I used HE soap, 1 tbsp. I always left the door of the washer open immediately after washing clothes, kept the gasket dry, used the tablets they recommended once a month, etc. I still ended up with a mildew odor so strong that I am now washing at the laundry mat. Best Buy keeps trying to repair this machine and does not want to replace it. This will be the second time I've had to replace the washer due to mildew. The Frigidaire washer was not even a year old and I just could not use it. Now, the LG is not even 3 years old and I cannot use it either.

All of these companies know the front loaders end up with mildew problems and continue to sell them. Something needs to be done because with today's economy, who can afford to run out and buy a new washing machine? Why should we have to buy a new machine when these aren't even lasting 3 years? I spent almost two grand for a washer and dryer and I'm at the laundry mat? It's just wrong! My daughter has very bad allergies and I cannot expose her to mildew. I need to have back surgery and trying to carry clothes to and from the laundry mat is very difficult for me. This has cost me a lot of extra monies that I do not have to spend.

I purchased an LG Tromm washer and dryer (model DLE8377NM, serial number 610KWXD01146) on 12/16/06 and a 24-month extended warranty from Conn's. My dryer started making a horrible noise so I contacted LG repair (Velaro) and asked about what it could be. They said I could have a cracked drum or the rollers could be bad, but I needed a technician to take a look at it to be certain. I got the name of an LG appliance repair service center from LG while chatting to Neil online. After a $70 service call and getting my dryer taken apart, I was told that I had a cracked dryer drum. The weld had broken and the metal shaved portions of the blower motor and two front rollers off. The technician believed that the weld was defective and told me I should call LG and see if they would help with the cost to replace it. This model (Tromm) was one of LG's top of the line dryers. When purchased, you would think after paying $1,200 for a dryer that it would last longer than 2 1/4 years!

I called LG customer service and the representative (Velma) said she would talk to the manager and see if they would do anything to help me. They would not. I was too far out of warranty. You would think that a defective weld on the dryer drum that is now costing me $426.18 to get replaced and dryer repaired would be at least partially covered. It was not covered in any way shape or form. I am upset that after paying $1200 for the dryer, and had 24-month extended warranty which expired in December that I have to pay so much to get it fixed after only a little over two years! I wash as little as two loads a week, occasionally 3 or 4 depending on if I wash sheets or blankets. I do not use the appliance every day and wonder if I should have stuck with the $350 dryer I got from Sam's. I thought I was buying a quality washer and dryer. I could go buy a new dryer for what it is costing me for the repair!

I just want people to be aware that even though you may pay a small fortune for high end appliances, they are not any better than the lower end appliances and add a warning that extended warranties are not all they are cracked up to be. Think about it long and hard before you purchase one because it seems like these days, an appliance will last only as long as the warranty or in my case, three months after the warranty expired! Manufacturers don't seem to want to take responsibility for defects in the workmanship even if it is discovered only after the manufacturer’s warranty expires.
