We bought a front loading LG Washer and Dryer in November 2006. We have had problems with it from the time we got it. We were not told that you must use HE detergent with it which lead to our first problem, a mysterious leak. We had issues with our store warranty and couldn't seem to get that problem fixed for over a year. Finally, the machine stopped working totally. We had to have a repairman come fix it (and they fixed the leak, caused by a faulty seal). We also have had problems with the smells. If you don't take the clothes and move them to the dryer almost immediately, they start smelling. If it isn't used for a few days, the inside also starts smelling. At the moment, the machine is getting a LE code again. This has been such a letdown as I was very excited about buying a front loading washing machine, let alone for the value of my money spent.

Purchased 9/03 LG Tromm/Front Loader Washer and Dryer with (paid additional $200.00 ea.) stands/drawer. From the second month of purchase we noticed a horrible smell after clothes were washed, we have tried everything to correct this, wiping the seal, which incidentally has a tear that we discovered, leaving the front loader door open. Nothing has worked, contacted LG, CS no help or accountability. Besides the odor, the washer often will imbalance, plus sound like demolition derby in spin cycles. As for the dryer, I can't say we are pleased to have paid over $3500.00 for the pair, never again will I purchase LG products! This is fleecing of the American Consumer!

Bought my LG WM 2688 (steam washer) and DLE5977 (dryer) from a local distributor in July of 2007. Soon after I started using it, it started leaking a large amount of water out of the bottom of the washer. It wouldn't do it on every load but only every five to ten times. I had two different service companies come look at the unit (both of which were referred to me by LG customer service). Neither of them could trace the problem on four different occasions. One technician told me to use less detergent... I tried it with NO detergent and it STILL LEAKED!! The other one just said he didn't know what was wrong and basically passed the buck to LG. I called LG and asked the unit be replaced and all they said they could offer is more warranty service! This seems highly unfair and also seems to be a common issue with these units after looking in to it.
The biggest issue I have is that my clothes SMELL LIKE MOLD!!! No matter what I use in the machine or how much I use in the machine or how fast I am to take the clothes out to dry them NOTHING WORKS! I clean the tub and clean the filter as per the manual too. I suffer from mold allergies too and this doesn't help them, let me tell you, and is quite embarrassing to smell that way. I also have an issue with the dryer... The sensor dry is a joke. It never works and I'm ALWAYS having to restart the cycle over and over to fully dry my clothes. The dryer screen is cleaned after every load and the exhaust ducting is ran properly.

I bought a front load washer in 2005 and a little over a year later, the motor went out. It was replaced Jan 2007 and it has happened again. It appears that the motor breaks down every year and a half. However, now it is out of warranty and we were told that there was a 1 year parts & labor warranty so we have to have it repaired at our cost. Both time we were told that it broke because we were using the wrong detergent. We just thought it a coincidence that the motor goes out after year or so.

LG Tromm Mold Issue. Same issues as everyone else. This can't be healthy. It seems to me there are certainly enough complaints on this site about the exact same issue that LG would respond before a class action suit is filed! I just want a washer that does not stink AND that cleans my clothes.

We bought the collection of LG products, the stove, the dishwasher, the matching pair of washer & dryer front loader all to put into our new house... Well, we haven't lived in it a year and the smells from the products are terrible. I thought maybe it was the water, the soaps, the anything... Nothing helps. I have to wash clothes with a powder soap, a liquid soap, fabric softener and sometimes even Clorox 2 all together to knock down the smell. The dishwasher is just as bad. It doesn't get the dishes clean and they are always WET! I again get an awful smell that company complains about, so sad that a $800 dishwasher can't hold up to the $300 I had at my old house. For the $4000 I spend on this company, they have only caused me problems... Good luck if you own them!

We have had the LG Tromm front loading washer for over a year. It smells and our clothes smell after washing. We have contacted customer service and been told to drain and clean the filter and run the tub clean option regularly (we are doing this twice a week). This has done nothing to effect the bad odor, and LG customer service has done nothing more. We spent over $1000 on this machine less than two years ago. The hope was that it would aid in reselling our home. Today, we are buying a new top loading washer. It will most likely cost $500. Add to that the expense of removing the malfunctioning LG Tromm. WE HAVE BEEN SOLD A LEMON. PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU ARE PURSUING ACTIONS AGAINST LG, AND I WILL PROVIDE Cust Service calls, etc.

I purchased the LG Tromm Steam Washer/Dryer unit 1 year ago and I am disgusted with the moldy smell that comes from the washing machine. Clothes come out smelling worse than they went in. I have complained to customer service multiple times and followed all of their suggestions on how to clean the unit but nothing has worked. This product is a failure and there should be a recall demanded of LG. We spent $1169.10 on the washing machine and I am completely disappointed in the unit. HELP!!!!

I purchased an LG Tromm, and my husband kept complaining that I wasn't getting the laundry from the washer to the dryer quickly enough, because our clothes smelled so horrible. I have drained the bottom of the washer and made sure the filter was fine, which it was. I now know that this smell is NOT my fault and that we have spent very good money on a unit that is faulty BY DESIGN! This company should perform a recall on its products. I wish I had just fixed my old washer and skipped the fancy new unit.

We spent $2000 on the LG TROMM STEAM WASHER and Dryer set in red, in February of 2007. We were so excited, as we wash at least 3 loads per day, usually more. Within a month, the washer had a horrible smell. The towels came out worse than they went in, making us smell bad when using them after a shower. There is never a fresh smell on the laundry, no matter what detergent, softener, or dryer sheet is used. It cannot hide the horrible stench in the washer. We have always left the washer door open, always wipe it off, try to clean the filthy mold and slime off the seal at the door, but nothing helps. This should be a recalled item replaced with a new one. I've never spent so much on such a horrible machine. We had our old machine from Sears for 15 years, and never did it smell like this, without even cleaning it! We have 3 children and lots of laundry, and this is ridiculous to have to deal with such an odor on every load. We are unsure what to do.

We purchased an LG washer 1 year ago. We had owned a Maytag Neptune... and other than its demise in 7 years, we were happy with the HE washer. We read all the reports and we confident the LG was the way to go. WHAT a disappointment. Within 4 months, the LG began to smell of mold. We tried every product on the market, from Clorox to vinegar to Afresh to Whirlout to Smellywasher. NOTHING worked. We spent more time cleaning the washer than our home. Finally, we accepted our mistake and purchased an old fashioned washer - for substantially less money. How wonderful to NOT smell mold. One good thing, we were able to talk another potential customer of LG to NOT purchase the product. She too bought the old fashioned washer. Score one for the good guys.

My name is Patricia ** and me and my husband own the LG front load washer. We purchased it from Best Buy in Dec 2006 and have had on going issues with a mildew smell that stays in our clothes. We've had this on going issue for almost a year now and LG customer service will not do anything to correct the problem. I have read the owners manual and repeatedly completed all maintenance on the product and the smell continues to stay in our clothes. The LG customer service representatives can only tell me to clean the washer and do the maintenance steps that they recommend and it should take care of the smell. I've since followed every recommendation the LG CSR's have given me and I was told that LG will not replace the product, even though we spent over $2500.
My problem is that all of the maintenance takes up so much of my time and it takes me twice as long to complete my laundry. I should not have to do repeat steps every time I wash clothes for my family (family of five) for a washer that is so expensive. The only reason why we purchased it is because it supposedly saves energy cost and uses less water. But for all of the hassle it takes in order for my clothes to get clean is ridiculous.
I've heard many complaints come in on the Clean of Queen show and also know personally others who have the exact same problem. I've also been on www.consumeraffairs.com and many others over the country have the exact same problem. I want LG to do something more for me as a consumer of their product other than having me do clean cycles that do nothing to help me. Please help me pursue this company. I am looking to write the president of LG and continue to pursue this until something is resolved.

Washer smells like mold, period. No matter what you do. Followed every sentence in their manual with no positive results. I too often rewash clothing or run numerous bleach no-clothes cycles hoping to solve or at least kill the mold for a short period of time. Another complaint is that a fog or mist builds up if the washer door is left shut. When that happens and you open the door, the stench almost knocks you over. Additionally, white clothes are coming out with yellow streaks. To top it all off, tonight the washer refused to drain. The estimated time left was 10 minutes... which lasted 30 minutes. The washer is 1 year and four months old.

I bought an LG front load washing machine in August of 2006. My wife has been complaining about the smell that we can't seem to get rid of for a year now, but I just never thought much of it. The smell continues to get worse. It has ruined some of her clothes, and now the machine has a mysterious leak somewhere. After reading so many other complaints about these same machines, I have learned that this is not an isolated incident but I'm not sure what recourse I have. Really the only damage so far is some lost clothing. If this leak continues, it will damage the floor and surrounding walls of the laundry room.

I found this site searching for tips on how to keep an LG front loader clean and odor free. We bought our LG TROMM front load washer in January 2007. We use it several times a week. I noticed a musty smell and ran the Tub Clean cycle. There was no improvement. The rubber liner around the door is impossible to clean thoroughly as the water flows underneath where it is impossible to get to. Still, I clean what I can reach.
Today I just washed a load of white sheets and they came out with grey-brown streaks. I guess this is from the gunk that is living somewhere in the bottom of the washer where I can't get to it. I am willing to take the thing apart if that's what's necessary, but I can't see how to do it. Other than the mildew problem I am happy with the washer.

The other said that we don't have enough water pressure.
3) The washer stinks. I have used everything to get the smell out. All my clothes smell like mildew. 4) The washer is suppose to weight ur clothes and adjust the running time. Everything washes at the same time 1 shirt or a comforter will all run at the same time. 5)The dryer almost always has to be reran to get the clothes to dry. It will blink six minutes forever. We lived in the UK for several years and I fell in love with front loaders. Mine were economical, efficient, and meant my husband could install a handy counter top over them for folding and work space. When they became available here in the states I mooned over a few models until he bought me a lovely LG pair for Christmas last year. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!
The smell is revolting and our clothes are always wrinkled. The temperature controls on the dryer are ineffective and even the cool-down cycle leaves our clothing wrinkled. The lettering is disappearing off the front of my washing machine, making my 9 month old machine look years older. I now hover over each wash load to pull them out immediately when finished in an attempt to avoid more ruined clothes.
I have begun to throw away irreparably smelly clothing and linens. Our utility bills have increased because our so-called high efficiency equipment has to be run with extra-rinse, water plus for every load to even come close to the same cleanliness standard I once got routinely with my old Whirlpool machine. My wonderful husband, normally a very frugal man, went into debt for almost $2000.00 to surprise me with this generous gift. Imagine how he feels! Please let me know if we have any recourse. Many thanks.

I purchased these machines in April, 2006. I used them for one year and then stored them for ten months during our house remodel. They are back in action since Feb. 2008. I noticed a few months after purchasing, a moldy smell, noted the water that was trapped in the rubber surrounding the drum. I cleaned all around the area, poured clorox in it, did a clorox only wash. That treatment minimized the odor for a short time, but ever since the problem seems to get worse. Clothes smell moldy - the laundry room even smells moldy.
There are other shortcomings to these products: lengthy time for wash cycles, dirt/spots not removed; dryer takes several times to get heavy items dry. I called customer service and was told to use a product called A-fresh, which I have purchased and used - makes no difference in the smell. Yesterday, at wits end, I cleaned the washer with clorox and a toothbrush (!), did two hot water and clorox cycles. Rewashed my husbands shirts, which came the first time smelling awful. Not much better the second time.
I want a machine that washes properly, leaves clothes clean and fresh smelling. I think that is what they are meant to do. The thought that keeps coming back to me is that I should get rid of these machines, take the $1600 loss and get a new washer and dryer that are not front loaders, nor as water efficient.

When we had our new house in Gilroy in June 2006 we bought our LG Tromm WM2277HW washing machine and LG Tromm DLG5988W dryer. We were told by Best Buy that this tandem is one of the latest models and had positive feedback from consumers. We were taken by the sales talk and bought the LG Tromm tandem of washing machine and dryer.
Then we started to having problems on the smell and we have to put a cup of the Downey in the washing machine and again 4 to 5 sheets of Downey in the dryer. The LG does not wash well especially the white clothes compared to the Maytag. The white clothes collar and armpit still has the stains even if you put the chlorox bleaching agent and the colored ones fabric and color fades after several washing. The machines are located on the 2nd floor and when in use, the washing machines literally rocks the 2nd floor of the house.
The dryer does not dry well and you have to do a 'Refresh' of 10 to 20 minutes. For drying heavy cotton clothes and rugs, you have to do Refresh 2 or 3 times. It's sensor does not work well to check if the clothes or rugs are dry. When you retrieve the clothes from the dryer, they are not as pressed when compared to a Maytag dryer, including denims or chinos. For some of the time, you have to do ironing to remove the wrinkles. The Wrinkle Care feature of the dryer do not worked also, totally useless.
I called up LG early this year about these issues. The customer service personnel took name & phone number and said will forward to management the problem. I hope that any government consumer bureau takes up this issue for the benefit of the consumers who was misled into the superior and advanced features of the machines. I am still paying through our credit card these inferior machines and do not have enough money to buy ourselves a new set.
Drain on our finances due to you have to put more perfumed downeys, use more electricity because of more drying, and buy new clothes often which you should not be. The physical damage possibly is the rocking of the house which in the future may affect the stability of the house, Heaven forbids. The more damage is the psychological when it puts stress that you bought an inferior equipment when the promises made fails, you cannot replace with new working ones because you are in dire financial problems, and you are carrying a financial burden because of the credit card costs.

I purchased one LG front loading fully aautomatic washing machine, 4 years ago and was working well. Recently the machine started having terrible jerk while itis working. later, it lost the slow speed of washing and began to run at higher speed. So the callcentre was contacted and as per their advice a team came and checked and said that the speed control board is faulty. After 2 days, another team came with the board and fitted it, but it wasnot working properly. So they said, the fault may be with the wiring. For a complete checkup they have taken the machine to the centre.
On 1.8.2008 they informed me thet the motor has to be changed. I went there and agreed for the new motor costing Rs 5120. I received the faulty motor, because the speed module of the motor is damaged and according to them , only remedy is to change the motor. So I received the motor and checked. thespeed module is situated on the back of the motor and is a simple machanism .It consisted of a coil and a rotating magnet. There was continuity of the coil, and the magnet was loose on the shaft of the motor. So it was misplaced in the coil and not rotating. I applied a little glue on the shaft of the motor and magnet was fixed. It showed the pulse on the meter. So I took the motor to the centre ad requested them to fix it in my presence. they were verymuch adamant not to check the motor again.
After a big quarrel, they agreed to check next day (in my absence). After three days they called me over the phone and informed that the mtorwas checked and was not working. So I accepted the defeat and agreed to fix the new motor. On 26.8.2008 they brought the mchine and installed. Its working was not satisfactory. They advised us to try washing and left.
The same evenig we tried the machine and it showed the same old fault. This time I called the Cente and told them that I am planning to follow legal steps. The very next day they came and changed one switsh and two shock absorbers also and then the machine started working. Shameful part of the story is that the faulty motor returned after trying was checke by me and found that the speed module coil is damaged by burning it ( it did not show continuity and no pulse noted).
LG being a sophisticated company compelled me to spent money on motor instead of just fitting the small inexpensive coil of the module. This is just like the story of loss of a kingdom for want of nail! I paid As follows- Invoice 4294 dated 23.7.08 Rs 337, 1841 dt.26.8.08 ---Rs.5370, 1842 dt.27.8.08 --Rs. 532. That's not possible as my laundry area is small, with an exit door to garage which would hit open door and block entry exit from house. This is a terribly poor design, with no fixes offered from Manufacturer. I'm so sorry I ever bought this monster. Everything smells musty. A lot of extra work to manually drain and clean machine after each use, and that doesn't remove the smell.

After looking and researching for a year - we bought the LG Tromm front loader washer and dryer. What a mistake. We have had problems that the washer drawer fills up with water and soap. I use about 1/4 of the recommended amount, and yes it is HE soap. I use bleach about every month and a half - the load afterwards gets bleach marks. And the dryer doesn't dry.
I have spend hours on the phone with LG and THE GREAT INDOORS (the Great Indoors are just as rude as LG). I have had the service techs tell me I don't know how to wash clothes and I am using too much soap. OKAY I AM USING 1/4 OF WHAT THEY SAY I AM SUPPOSE TO USE. No it is all my fault. I have been washing clothes for about 30 years. I have called and called - I have the mold problem - I have water leaking out of the bottom of the washer every so often. I did find out that the dryer isn't meant to DRY CLOTHES COMPLETELY - they are suppose to be wet because it is better for the clothes (per LG) - so you have to set it at a higher setting to dry.
I won't be buying LG again. Service techs are rude and treat customers like they are idiots - LG and the GREAT INDOORS are both horrible. I planned on having the EXPENSIVE ($2500) washer and dryer for at least 10 years - I'll be lucky if it lasts 3.

LG Front Load Washer has terrible odor (mold/must) and leaks. After reading multiple complaints on ConsumerAffairs and other websites it would appear that this is not an isolated issue. It looks very likely that LG has a design flaw in the unit and has taken no action on its own to solve these problems. LG should be pressured by the government or a class action suit to remedy the problem. These were not cheap machines (1200.00) and they have not lived up to their claims.

My point is I should not have to do this to my washer. It should have been designed to drain the water properly. The newer models have more holes and larger ones so clearly they realized the design flaw. Also the washer does not hold what it should. If you put in 3 bath towels it gets off kilter and stops running without draining leaving soacking wet towels. You have to re-run the washer again to get it to drain the towels and the washer properly.

Upgraded all my appliances to LG in Oct. of 2006. In April 2007, dishwasher made awful noise and had a code # flashing. After several calls to LG was referred to local tech for service call. About the LG Tromm Washer, the bleach cup fills with water every time I do a load of laundry. I will not call about this one, I just keep emptying it. I do not want to be charged a couple of hundred dollars to fix.
Service tech came out and determined the dishwasher needed a part. Actually, he knew right away on the phone when I described the problem. It needed a whole new motor part that drives the draining of the water. He said he replaces those all the time. That's nice at a pop of $200 plus for the service call and part. I think this is a big scam. This is obviously a known defect. I even asked LG if there was a recall on the dishwasher, and they assured me this was isolated, HA!

We too purchased an LG washer and dryer, both 3 yrs old. The washer has a horrid smell that nothing seems to help. We have had no leaks, but the seal is molded and between the seal and drum is gunk that I cannot completely clean. This has been blamed on the use of softeners. I could maybe buy into that, however i dilute my softner in half.
The dryer makes a horrible noise that cannot be explained even after several service calls. One tech even told me he thought a dryer sheet had somehow been sucked into the machine. True story, you can't make nonsense like that up. I don't use dryer sheets.
I have never had such poor equipment and the customer service from LG is non existent. What really ticks me off is the idea that this is a design flaw I was in an appliance center just 2 days ago (4/2/08) and went straight to the LG washers. The seals still have a fold in them and additional drainage holes have been added. I talked to my sister who has a FL Maytag and she has never had a mold or smell problem with her washer. The rubber seal is just that, sealed, no place for water to sit. I want to add that I researched washer/dryer sets extensively using Consumer Reports and the Maytag was poorly rated and the LG was rated just under Whirlpool.

We live in Saudi Arabia (where I work) but spend the summer in Lebanon (our homeland). We have a barely-used LG washing machine (LG Inverter 7KG WD-10235FB)which we bought around april / may 2006 timeframe. Like every year, this year my family went to Lebanon (on 20-June-2008) to spend the summer. Upon arival, my wife found out that the LG washing machine (which was not used for the past few months) is not functioning right so she called the LG service center in Beirut to send someone to check it and repair it.
LG service center said that they needed to charge US$22 for the visit regardless of the repair charges. We agreed to this and they sent someone to our place. The repair technician claimed that the electronic board needs replacement (the cost will be US$77); my wife told him that the washing machine makes noise when running and the technician checked the engin and said it needs replacement then he dismantled it and took it with him.
Few days later another repair technician (Mr. Jhon) came in with the board, the wrong engin and a bill of US$185). Since the wrong engin was sent, he was not able to repair the washing mashing and made a report about what happened and informed my wife that the first technicial should not have taken any parts out of our home.
my wife then contacted the LG service center many times and the lady answering the phone kept giving promises with no action. Till date (5-July 2008) the washing machine is unrepaired; the removed parts are not returned and the replacement parts and not fitted. The least you can say about this is that it is very unprofessional and unethical. Taking the parts out of our house is cheating & theft. I will surely not be buying any LG appliances in my life again and I will suggest to my friends that they do not do so. If I could, I will sue the technician for cheating my wife and for steeling the parts from our house and I will sue the LG service center in Beirut & worldwide for the way they are handling this case.
This I can not assess -- but it is surely frustrating to have to live through such experience

I have tried many things to prevent/clean this, including vinegar rinses, bleach/hot water rinses, scrubbing the door seal, wiping the excess water away, leaving the door open. I cannot get rid of the smell or the mold growth. There are also areas in the gap outside the drum that are soiled but I cannot reach to clean.
Besides the health issue related to this mold, the washer has ruined my towels. All of them have a sour smell to them. We went through 5 visits from the tech - to be told I don't know what's wrong. Thank GOD we had purchased the extended warranty.
The most frustrating part of the experience was that Best Buy and LG could have cared less. They thought nothing of the issue. Now please understand I realize that there are WAY more important issues occuring in the world that are much more important than my broken washer BUT the poor customer service was AWFUL. To no avail. Finally gave up and called service thru Fry's warranty dept. Stood up first time, rescheduled, but before he made it out had an incident of flooding from washer all the way through laundry room, down family room carpet and pad (more than 20 feet worth, at least five feet wide)down to wood flooring in kitchen. Got wet-vac then rented a blower which ran for 3 days. Then he showed up only to say that couldn't find a reason for flooding (also looks like a universal response) but wanted to replace the rubber gasket.
Came to install (taking apart the machine completely) only to realize - wrong rubber seal. Called to set up another appt - no show. When we called they said "wrong part had come in". No call to tell us. Finally came to install rubber gasket. The first load washed after service guy was here resulted in same flooding, same extensiveness, same procedure to dry carpet and get someone to stretch and tack carpet back down properly. The biggest problem I have right now is it fills with water, spins a little...once it fills, it makes a grinding noise and doesn't do anything. I have to manually drain it. I called LG and they told me to use a tub cleaner called Whirlout which should fix my problem. I went to the maytag store and asked them what they thought. An LG tech came out in February and said that we installed it incorrectly. We did NOT install it--it was a company that HomeDepot contracts with.
We were told that our outside vent needed to be replaced and that the dryer would dry. Note the vent tube was over 5 foot long but the tech said it was fine. Next problem, the washer was not washing and we had terrible wall and window vibration. Tech number 2 came out and informed us that high efficiency liquid detergent was to blame and that we now needed to buy a product called Affresh to strip the detergent film left by the high efficiency detergent, and this needed to be done every month. He also said that we should NOT use liquid and to buy powder detergent (I don't THINK so!). Said to call installation company to cut off some of the vent hose.
We called HomeDepot (which by the way, is worthless in customer service) and installation tech's came out and cut off 5 foot of vent hose. They removed pedestals and then used a leveler to see why we had the shaking of the walls and window. Were told that original installation was to blame. Still to this day, the washer turns clothes yellow, gray or blue, and does NOT wash. The dryer still does NOT dry. The so-called sensors either dont work or are a hoax. The walls and window still shake, and HomeDepot is still working on it . FIVE MONTHS LATER--NO RESOLUTION! DO NOT BUY AN LG!! They stink and your clothes will too!

In August of 2006 we splurged and bought the LG TROMM washer/dryer set from Home Depot. With four children we thought it would be worth it to have the bigger capacity items. Within the first six months of use the washing machine started leaking during some cycles. This continues today. No service person has been able to find a cause for it, though, and it makes no sense that it only happens once in a while.
We previously had a top-load machine that we had purchased used and I was able to wash much larger loads in it. Anything more than a couple pairs of jeans and the water does not spin out.
I called the company about the horrific smell and they said to use bleach and the clean cycle at least once a week. Even doing this, the smell continues. I will try leaving the door open based on comments here.
The dryer has never completely dried a load in just one cycle and both the washer and dryer have exceptionally long cycles. A regular cycle on the washer is always close to an hour and the dryer always has to go through two cycles, usually totally forty minutes or more. Very disappointed in these products and frustrated that we spent so much money. An expensive lesson to learn.
Excessive electricity used for additional drying cycles, cleaning cycles - to remove moldy smell (per a company reprentative), ruined floors and clothes.

We purchased an LG Waher and Dryer and Dishwasher a year and a two months ago. The washer broke a week ago and the serviceman came yesterday and said that he could not find anything wrong with it. First load I tried to wash after he left, the machine stopped and I got an error message.
I just spent 45 minutes on the phone with LG and they said it was the thermistor and the repair man had been told that he had to replace it. So I had to pay for the repair yesterday and now I am supposed to pay him (the only serviceman who repairs this brand) to come out again. I asked the customer service rep if I was going to have to pay for this repair every year and she said, I don't know.
The dishwaher also doesn't clean the dishes, but we gave up on that appliance too and wash them by hand. Obviously this is an issue because I am seeing these problems all over the internet.

In June of 2003 we purchased an LG WM1932CW washing machine from Best Buy. It worked well enough except for the moldy smell it left on our clothes from time to time. After doing some research on the internet, we discovered that the door must be left open at all times when it is not in use. With that handled all was fine until we started getting LE error codes and then a CE error code that tripped the breaker; it would not work at all after that. We called LG on 03-29-08 and was told that this was not a warranty problem and they refered us to a local authorized service center (Marks Service Pro of Spencer, WI ), who sent a tech out that day. He determined that it was the main board and the hall sensor. He ordered the parts and said that it could take up to two weeks for them to come in.
After two weeks of hearing nothing, we called and were told the parts were back ordered and would take one more week. It took two more weeks before both the parts finally showed up. The tech came out and fixed the washer and we thought we were good to go. After he left we got three loads done before we once again received an LE error code - a motor overload (the load in the washer that caused the error code was a t-shirt, a cotton tank top and 2 lingere items.) I called the service company and was told it could be this or that, they didn't really know, because they said it should work based on the parts they already replaced. They ordered the parts that would most likely fix the washer and said they would be out to fix it when the parts came in.
I then called LG and told the Customer Service Rep (CSR) of my trouble; he told me that I was over loading my washer (with a set of queen sized sheets, a hand towel, a t-shirt and a pair of flannel sleeping pants.) This is a Super Capacity washer! The LG CSR also told me that the water has weight. IT IS A WASHING MACHINE, IT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE WATER IN IT! I then asked to speak to a supervisor and after being put on hold for 10 minutes I was told by the supervisor that it is not covered under warranty and they were not going to do anything to help me. This has to be the worst company for customer service. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!
This fiasco has so far cost me $400 in repair bills, about $150 at the laundrymat (not to mention all the loads of laundry we have done at my parent's and a friend's house), a trip to the doctor for a skin allergy that came from clothes washed at the laundrymat, and so much stress and extra time carting laundry all over that my wife and I are at our wits end and at each other's throats. So as a temporary remedy, until we can find someone who can actually fix it, we bought a used Whirlpool top load washer for $200.

My husband and I bought a LG Tromm Front loader washer and dryer March of 06 from Home Depot. When we bought the washer and dryer we told the kid that we wanted the extended service plan since we were spending so much ($2300.00). Plus we bought a hot water tank. So all together we sent 2400.00 that day in Home Depot. After having the washer and dryer for one year and 2mos the washer would not spin the water out of the clothes, so I called Home Depot they told me i would have to call LG so i did that got the run around they said if i got a service plan with Home Depot i would have to call them.
So I called Home Depot the informed me i never bought the plan. I was so mad I called the manager of the store where i bought it and told him about the day i bought it and dealing with the high school kids who work there and had no clue as to what was going on. The manager hung up on me so i emailed the main office all they wanted to offer me for my innconvience was a $25.00 gift card. I didn't stop there i told them they had one week to make it right or i was going to the better business bureau. They replied to my email and gave me ref. #.
So i called and spoke to customer service and we got the store manager on the phone and come to find out his phone went died on him. They bought the service plan for me and found someone to fix my washer. It was the mother board that i guess controls the whole thing. Now that we got that fixed, we have come up with a leak and i can not find where it is leaking. I guess i can say i am one of the lucky ones cuz Home Depot made it right for me.
I would not tell people to go and by an LG washer and dryer because i think if you are going to spend that kind of money it should last forever not just one year. If there was a law suite i would want to join in on it cuz i dont know about the rest of you but were i leave money doesnt grow on trees. I feel as though LG could stand by there products better, but i guess that is what you get when you buy something and it doesnt say made in the UNITED STATES!

Warranty service is terrible. Every company that services their washer and dryers are refusing to provide warranty service. This is deceptive.
Washer has continually leaked water on tile floor and has damaged wood in hallway. Clothes are damaged, towels are damaged due to molded odor that will not go away. Dryer does not dry clothes. It takes almost two 50 minute cycles to dry towels and some clothes. A class action should be filed. I would definetely want to be included in a class action suit.

The smell of foul water is the problem. I shouldn't have to run an empty washer with bleach to try and get the odor out. The purpose of buying a front loader is to save time and water, not to use more. Of course the company says nothing and Best Buy still sells them. Yes, a 1,000 dollar mistake.

I want to thank all of you for voicing your complaints. I was able to diagnose and fix my problem without calling a service company. I figured out the odor issue on my own very quickly, because I had a front loader before. You definitely have to keep the door open when not in use. Problem solved.
More recently I received an error message to clean the filter and drain line. What? I had a machine full of water that did not drain. I always wondered what that panel in the front of the machine was. Thanks to one of your comments, I know. I opened it up, took out the hose and drained it into a bucket. The water slowly went down in the drum. Then I took the bucket and put it under the other piece, and unscrewed it. That is where the filter is. The rest of the water came out and all the stuff that was causing the water not to drain in the first place. It seems that my husband washed a chenille blanket when I was not home. Bad idea. My suggestion is if you have animals in the house, or wash fuzzy clothes or blankets, you need to clean the filter every six months, just as a maintenance. You have to realize that, although expensive, these are just machines. You cannot expect them to perform miracles. You take your car to get the oil changed, you change the filter on your a/c or vacuum, so why not clean your washing machine? I think you will see that they will perform much better for you if you take care of them.

I have ruined all of my children's baby clothes and had to replace countless shirts, blankets, socks, etc. On occasion, the washer has actually stained clothing with yellow or greasy stains on clothing that was stainless previous to wash. The dryer sensor rarely actually dries the clothing fully so that you have to keep running it. We also have had issues with error codes on the display. THESE MACHINES ARE LEMONS!

I have had the smell problem with my LG WM2277Hw front loader. I have found the trick to cleaning it so you won't have to have smelly clothes. I know you say if I spent all this money I shouldn't have to clean it, but I can't afford to but a new one so I do the best I can. After you finish washing all of your clothes, take a dry towel and dry the inside of the gray rubber part just inside the door--go all the way around. Then get a Q-tip and clean out the three or four little holes in the gray rubber part. Then I usually leave the door open all night to dry up any excess water. Then get a big bowl and at the bottom of the washing machine there is a compartment to open and take the tube out and pull the cap off of it and drain that water until it stops. Mine usually goes about a half of pitcher. After that, unscrew the black thing inside and remove any pens or change from that compartment. I dry mine after all my washing is done, and I don't get the smell anymore. Hope this will help some of y'all.

Then came the smell. Not only have I noticed, but my entire family is complaining. Not to mention the embarrassment of people I work with and the people my husband works with either joking out loud or on the side commenting about our clothes stinking! This is a MAJOR EMBARRASSMENT. As for the replacement for the electronic problem that I was fortunate, this they have no answers except for asking us to run bleach in the drum once a week, which is ridiculous. I would turn the machine off and hit spin cycle for it to complete what it was doing. On the 1st few occasions it would work, but after a week or 2 nothing I did would make the machine complete its spin so I checked the receipt to see their return policy but it had nothing. This is when I called Roberts Stevens, 31 days after purchase. I was told that I missed out because the purchase exceeded the 30 day window and there is nothing they can do. I explaind to them that it is not stated on their receipt and was told it's pasted somewhere in the store.
I was given the name and number of Bakers appliance repair to have them come out to do the repair. I did not want it repaired because how can a new washer start giving problems within 2 weeks of purchase? This started a disagreement and I was clearly told to go contact LG appliance regional manger and was hung up on by an employee at Roberts Stevens. I called back and spoke to the manager/supervisor who apologized for the employee's actions and tried to handle the issue, I called Bakers Appliance repair and they have come out 3 times within these 10 months. Now it's broken again and after spending almost $700 for a brand new washer for convenience I have to be going to the laundromat to have me and my families laundry done, paying $30 each time I go. I wouldn't mind LG taking back their washer and give me my money back.
Constant calling and being verbal abused by Robert Stevens staff, burning gas and wear and tear on my vehicle, leaving my infant, toddler and daughter to go to the laundromat, paying $30 weekly to have laundry done, additional stress thinking about my $700 being wasted, and increase in my electric bill because I had to keep restarting the wash cycle thinking this would help the situation.

The dryer did not completely dry the loads and needed to run on a double cycle each time I used it. I called 2 repair companies, who came out and checked both units. Each said that there was nothing wrong with them and that my complaints were typical problems associated with front loading washers and that the dryers, being made overseas, were calibrated to different drying standards. I've been told that I have to do weekly or monthly clorox wash cycles and, then go through several steps to drain the unit afterwards to keep the mold down. Had I been told when was looking at these units that this was what I would have to put up with, I never would have bought them, especially for what they cost.
Neither Home Depot or LG will take responsibility for the lack of full disclosure. I have to let the door of the washer hang open at all times to keep the smell down, and still it is noticable. Our clothes smell like mildew terribly. I have had to purchase all new T-shirts and and socks because of the stench. My wife leaves the door open to the washer after every load, and she runs vinegar cycles with no clothes a few times a week. This is insane. It gets worse! The dryer takes hours to dry a load. The cooling light is on 24/7 no matter what setting you use. If you put it on auto, it shuts off in 10 minutes, and the clothes are soaked. I have shortened the dryer hose, cleaned it many times and nothing fixes it. We constantly have baskets full of dirty clothes because we can never get it caught up with two children and our own clothes. Then remember if you do finally get them dry and wear the clothes, if you perspire or get warm in them you get a terrible musty smell coming from your shirts. It's sick, really.
I am about ready to just trash them and move on, but it's a lot of cash to be throwing away. It's not right. Do not buy these--just look at all of the complaints out on the web. I wrote to LG on December 20th and have not had the courtesy of a reply. I am now going to the Better Business Bureau for the State of Arizona.
We have had to pay for doing our laundry at an automat which in addition to the cost, has cost my time which as an artist I earn approximately $100.00 per hour. I have four children ages 2-11. I have rarely had problems getting stains out of my clothes until now. The gray-looking stains DO NOT come out, period. I have been very patient from the start. I thought it was me because I was new to the front loaders. I tried everything suggested. I even stopped using fabric softener (non-concentrated). I tried using very little soap. I clean the unit regularly. I leave the door open when not used. I GIVE UP. It should not be such a hassle to do laundry. My next complaint is the smell. I have horrible smelling clothes and I hate the moldy-like smell in my towels (with or without softener). I tried more water, extra washes etc. They still stink. The repair men are nice but they admit they have no clue to the stains. They shrug their shoulders and guess like we all do.
