I believed that LG is one of the best company in the Indian market so I bought LG Washing Machine but before complete 3 years, I got a serious problem with my LG Washing Machine and LG technical engineer said to replace PCB of the machine. He also said that I have to pay for this PCB and I have to pay approx amount is Rs. 4500/-. This is totally not acceptable by me. After all these I have a doubt that my LG Washing Machine is original or duplicate. Is your dealer sold duplicate or not? As per my knowledge washing machine does not have any major problem till 7 to 8 years. It is very serious matter for LG also that LG demands such amount. Can LG give revert for my below queries:

-Is my decision to buy LG product is right?
-Are you thinking that within such a short time PCB problem is acceptable?

-Are you thinking that LG is still a good brand for Washing Machine ?

I request you to repair my LG Washing Machine without any charges and prove that LG is best in after sale services. Hope your best support and quick action.

I purchased an LG washer 21/2 years ago from Home Depot and last weekend it failed during a load. I could not get my clothes out. The main PCB board failed. This washer was only used for a couple of loads a week. What really bothered me was the treatment I got from LG. The service people kept hanging up on me and they would not do anything for me even though they had a service bulletin out identifying the board as a problem and had developed an updated replacement board. Stay away from LG equipment. Their equipment is not reliable and they do not stand by their equipment.

Don't buy the LG High Capacity expensive washer. It doesn't clean your clothes, musty/wet dog smell. It doesn't fill with enough water to wash a hand towel. It calls for less soap, but sometimes the soap doesn't dispense all. Every load gets the "UE" code, uneven load and you have to open and shuffle clothes so wash time is over an hour and half. Was told by friends to pour vinegar in every load, or add bleach every time you wash, leave the lid open or mold grows in it!

So I had LG rep visit and here is what I was told. Do not fill to line as specified, only 2 tablespoons of detergent, no more. You cannot wash a load too large, only a medium, fill clothes only half way. You CANNOT wash large towels, blankets or comforters in these washers. You have to add white vinegar. Leave the top open always or mold will grow. Every month you need to press tub clean and add special cleaning tablets.

So basically, this efficient washer saves on water and detergent, but you have to spend your money on vinegar, cleaning tablets and dry cleaner for bulky items. Then he added this kicker: "Blame the government" because they have high restrictions on making washers more efficient for environment, they have to make them work bad. Apparently, the European LG washer is awesome, no restrictions. Go back to Sears, buy a Kenmore with an agitator and have clean clothes.

I've posted on this site regarding my Maytag stackable washer and dryer. Now I'm posting regarding my BRAND NEW LG stackable washer and dryer. After much researching online regarding stackable washers and dryers, I finally went with the LG brand. My Maytag washer went dysfunctional after 6 months. For the following 8 months, I had Maytag repair guys at my home, every two weeks, to "fix" the same exact problem. I had an error code that flashed on the machine. It was THE same code each and every time. Every part that was replaceable on the machine had been replaced, yet the problem continued. Maytag customer service is HORRIBLE.

Now LG. The washer, when pumping water into the machine, caused a loud thumping in my walls. The vibration of the washer caused a rubbing and squelching noise from the dryer stacked on top. The company is well aware of the dryer problem and told me, "There is nothing we can do about it." They are selling a machine they KNOW has a problem. The washer problem was an electrical problem, also not fixable. And when a certified LG technician comes to your home and tells you in all honesty that he has nothing good to say about his company, then THIS IS A MAJOR problem.

The machines are 2 DAYS OLD AND DO NOT WORK. Customer service is HORRENDOUS. I literally spent an entire day talking with customer service. It was only when I was speaking with the 8TH representative that a repair appointment was finally made. One representative actually asked me this, "Can you describe the noise? Can you better describe the noise? Can you give different words to describe the noise?" Who knew there were so many ways to ask the same exact question repeatedly? I also had to repeat answers to other questions as well.

Needless to say, the machines will be returned and I am on the hunt for a different brand. The problem is, when you go to research the variety of brands, all of them have complaints. And what I have noticed is that for the majority of brands, their machines become dysfunctional at the two year mark. This is pretty shabby, considering you are spending close to $1000 or more per machine. I just don't have thousands of dollars every year to spend on appliances because the companies out there, can't seem to make durable products anymore.

My parents have Kenmore appliances. They've had the same appliances for YEARS and no problems. What happened to decent machines? And what the heck happened to great customer service?? If there was a 10 star option for the worst service and machines imaginable, I would choose that.

I've had the LG front washer now for 3 years and the only problem was not getting that fresh smell. Issue resolved by switching to powder. Use the speed cycle - only 21 minutes. Drain the pump tube monthly and leave the door open. Clean the rubber ring monthly. Try it.

First of all, they have phone representatives that are foreign and very hard to understand. They were unsure if I was still under warranty. I've had the appliance less than 2 months. Plus I purchased an extra 3 year warranty, which I can see now is utterly worthless. I gave them every model number, etc., I could find. But I could not find the physical receipt. I called the company I bought it from online, Compact Appliance, and they emailed me a receipt. That evidently was not good enough. Because then they hemmed and hawed and gave me the general runaround about getting someone in my area to come to my home. It would be weeks. And I would have to call a customer service center, which I abhor, to further this matter. I will not be giving LG any more praise on my blog. You can spend $1300 with them, but then they are going to do everything they can not to follow up with their warranty. This is patently ridiculous. Customer service? Not!

I bought a front loading LG washer. It was one of the more pricey washers. I've had it for 3 years and now it sounds like a 747 airplane is landing in the laundry room - LOUD grinding in spin cycle. The cost to replace this out of warranty is astronomical as it is a tub and bearing replacement. I posted this to the LG website for reviews and they sent me back an email saying the review did not meet their standards. I guess that is because it was a poor rating?? I will not do business with this company again. My previous washer lasted 10 years and this one only three - think I will skip LG in the future. It would be interesting to know how much LG earns on their repair side of the business.

I use softener drying sheets and my clothes smells like mold. My husband hates the smell especially in the towels! I would never recommend a front loader and definitely not an LG brand. I had the worst customer service. I'm ready just to take a big loss on this machine. The water pump went out, just 3 months after my service contract had ended figures! But I am 5'1" and I cannot reach into the washer to take out washed clothes unless I stand on a stool. I did not buy stackables because in a few years, I will be 80 and I didn't want to be standing on a stool to remove clothes from a stacked dryer. That's an accident waiting to happen. But guess what--I'm on the step stool now! Arrrrrrrrrrgh.

I purchased this washer (WT4801CW) new in December 2011 from Home Depot. I have been happy with it until just recently when my washer just stopped in the middle of the wash cycle. I tried to push the power button to re-start the load but the display was dead - no lights, no sounds - nothing! The lid was locked and would not open but my husband figured out how to get lid to open. We manually had to wring out all the towels I had in the washer and then dip out all the water. I called LG but all they told me was that since I didn't buy extended warranty they couldn't help me.

Apparently the guy I talked to at LG wasn't in the US as he had no idea how to pronounce Louisville and asked me what KY stood for. My husband is quite the repairman and was able to figure out that the fuse on the noise reducer was bad along with having no power on the main Power Control Board. It cost us around $160 to replace these parts and thankfully my husband was able to do all the work himself. LG stands for Life's Good, but apparently this is a joke on us!

It takes me hours to wash a load of clothes, because it keeps stopping blinking unbalanced, it does this whether there is a full load, just one thing or cleaning. The washer will get down to 2 or 3 minutes left in the cycle then completely reset itself back to the beginning of the cycle and start all over again. Took me 6 hours to wash 5 towels the other day, finally had to stop the washer hand wring out my towels, just to get the load done so I could wash more clothes. My towels have never smelt as bad as they do since I got this washer 3 years ago. Hate this, I have 7 people in my house I cannot wait hours to wash one load of clothes.

Called LG back and was told that would get back with me with a fax number to send them the bill of sale. After not hearing from them for a week, called them back and they told me they would only come out if I paid for service person coming out and repairs. I purchased this product less than 5 months ago and the water pump went out. Called LG customer service and they referred me to a company who refused to service any of their products. I called LG back and they gave me another phone number, called and set up a service call. They showed up with NO parts on them due to LG's "policies". They do not allow them to carry parts for their product with them. The company ordered the part and told me it would be 4 business days before I could get it fixed due to LG having to ship them the part. LG on the other hand said they 2 day overnight parts. That was a lie. The appliance repair came 6 business days later (due to waiting on part), installed the pump, and to no avail.

The technician said it had to be the computer board that was bad. What?!? We tested the washer and lo and behold due to the bad computer board, it burned up pump #2. From this point obviously I had a "lemon" of an appliance. Thank God for our local Home Depot, whom I purchased it from, because dealing with LG is a nightmare! Home Depot let me return BOTH LG washer and dryer I purchased and I traded it for a brand new Samsung washer and dryer. I will never ever buy an LG product again.

We purchased LG washer WT5070VC and LG dryer DLEX5170W in November 2012. Total cost new at Home Depot was $1400. They are both broken and cost of repair is $700. I contacted LG this morning and spent three hours on the phone with them. They did several diagnostic tests over the phone. They offered nothing. They did try to set me up with a local repairman and could not find one. We contacted Home Depot on our own and paid $97 for their diagnostician to come out. His price for repairs is the $700 mentioned above for a washing machine clutch and assembly as well as the dryer vent blower. These are both minor repairs and will still have this gross total to fix. Will never purchase LG again and plan to discourage others from buying as well. If there is anything I can do to further contact LG, please let me know. I have setup a website lgwarn.com to further document our experience and provide photos and LG's denial letter. We purchased an LG Front loading washing machine that opened up during a wash cycle and LG is refusing to cover any of the damages to our home. This is particularly egregious because LG is aware that if their front loading machines over fill with water that the door will pop open. LG is knowingly selling front loading washers that will open if, for whatever reason, they get too full of water.

MODEL NAME: WM2650HRA SERIAL NUMBER: 306PNAJ6G432. PURCHASE DATE: 4/20/2014 Retail price $1,099.00. It worked perfectly until 5/10/2014 when during a sanitation wash cycle the front door opened and poured water out causing over $3000 (supported by estimates from licensed contractors) of damage to our living space by ruining wall to wall carpet and some of the sub floor. On 5/10/14 LG service representative admitted that too much water would open the door. On 5/19/14 ** also stated that too much water would cause the door to open. This proves that LG was well aware of this feature of their front loading washing machines.

5-20-2014 LG Call ** Representative Katie refused to provide smart diagnosis report from 5/10 incident and refused to provide her last name but transferred me to a supervisor. 5-20-2014 Adrian ID** seemed surprised that two people at LG had admitted the defect regarding the door opening. On 6/16/2014 our claim was denied by LG. We have filed a formal complaint against LG with the North Carolina Dept of Justice Consumer protection dept.

Purchased a set of Washer and Dryer from Home Depot. Just over the one-year warranty period, the dryer stopped heating. The service repairman was so rude I sent him away. I ordered a new heating unit online and fixed it myself and appears to be working ok now. The washer model #WT5101H top loading washer has never worked right since new. It continues to go out of balance when spinning and displays a UE error code. Then the washer will refill and swish clothes around for a while to redistribute the clothes and try to re-spin only to go out of balance again. It will do this a number of times and then just shut down.

After doing some research, I found this machine was a part of a recall. I promptly called LG and got set up for a service person to come out and fix it. The fix was to replace the control circuit board. He replaced the circuit board and left only to find that the fix did not fix anything. It is still just as bad as ever. I called LG again and I ran a diagnostic on it with the phone and they said the circuit board is now just fine and their obligation of repair under the recall is completed but there is another problem with the machine. I would have to call for another service repairman to come out to fix it. My questions are this to LG appliance:

    1) How can they possibly call this machine energy star qualified after running through so many spin cycles? Surely this is wasting a lot more energy than it could possibly be saving.
    2) All this refilling and spinning is undoubtedly overburdening my septic drain field and wasting so much water that it is unbelievable.

    3) With all the problems with these machines particularly with the spin cycle, it would seem to me that LG has a responsibility to provide a fix that works after all this machine cost over a $1K and it doesn't work and has never worked properly.

I think my only recourse is to contact my attorney and see what legal remedies are available. Perhaps a class action lawsuit by all could convince LG to make the necessary repairs to make the machines to work right!! The only reason they get one star is that there is nothing lower! You could not get me to run fast enough away from LG appliances or any LG products in the future.

We purchased a LG washing machine from Lowe’s on May 31, 2014. About the second time we used it the clothes were slopping wet but some of the clothes had dry spots on them (both using detergent and fabric softener and without using any as we've had to wash each load 3 times or more to get the washer through a cycle). Lowe’s was nice enough to replace that washing machine with another one just like it. Lowe’s delivered and set up the new LG washing machine within a few days. The very first time we used the new LG washer it was the same problem. Also we got an E6 - clutch error message to unplug and call repairman. Lowe’s had a repairman out but they can't find anything wrong. Calling LG and was informed some needed a new control board (why?? these are brand new machines and why are they selling the machines knowing "certain serial numbers have problems)??

We don't have any children at home nor do we do heavy loads nor do we have real dirty greasy clothes. Lowe’s pretty much said we've had this newest machine 8 days and they can't do anything (had it 3 days before using it). LG advised we have to have 3 different service techs out. The first tech said he would check on the parts and call us back but that was 3 days ago and we haven't heard from him. We called today and was advised they don't know if the parts were ordered or not as the "secretary" is out until Monday.

Believe me we are slamming LG and are not happy with them at all. Service tech also advised us since it's LG it will take longer to get the parts in and this repair might or might not work. It's like let’s try this and let’s try that and maybe something will help. But having two brand new LG washing machines within two weeks and they are both doing the same thing... LG has a problem and looks like it's not getting fixed! We are very unhappy and wished we didn't purchased LG - the reviews are totally wrong!

My LG washer/dryer lasted a for a few years, then promptly stopped drying. Authorized service tech came out 4 times, each time replacing more stuff, the typical blind replacement strategy without doing any real diagnostic work. Several hundred dollars of new parts, incidentally I have the old parts in hand and they tested fine. Anyway, it still doesn't dry any better, but somehow passed a "self test". Tech said that the support guy he was talking to at factory said we should get a new unit, but when I call to begin this process, LG says they can't authorize that because the self test passed.

Call me crazy but the ultimate test of a dryer is whether it dries clothes. LG says it is normal for the clothes to come out of these combo machine dryers "somewhat wet". They've also discontinued this model (WM-3988HWA). I wonder why. Perhaps I'm not the only consumer who expects a dryer to dry things. Dismal support by LG. Yes, it is out of warranty, but if they can't fix it at any price and have discontinued the product, that to me means the product is defective and a prorated refund/exchange should be offered.

I purchased LG front load machine in June 2012, since then I am very unhappy and not at all satisfied with the cleaning of the machine. I have many LG products at my home and had no bad experience with any of them but since the day I purchased the front load LG machine, I regret the decision of buying LG product. In the span of 2 years of purchase of machine, I have called customer services on several occasions for help and few of your technician have visited my place as well. I did whatever was advised to me by your technicians, I am still not satisfied with the cleaning and the machine functioning. My sister and mother are using the same model of machine and they are highly satisfied but when they came to my place and washed clothes in my machine, even they found a problem in my machine cleaning which your technicians are unable to find. I feel as if I have been sold a LG product with false promises which is classified as mis-selling. I think customer satisfaction should be the priority of every brand rather than selling products. I, as a customer, feel as if I have been cheated. I need my machine to be replaced or else I will make sure to take this matter further. Thanks.

Purchased a washer/dryer company WM3987HW at the end of last July. In December the unit flooded due to "quality issue" - technician's words on the report. Went a whole month without a repair because according to the report that they received it was an "installation issue". They will not send me a copy of their report so I can compare to the one I have. Nowhere on my report do I have installation as the cause. Hours on the phone from customer service, supervisors and claims department and 5 months later still have no end to my nightmare. I'm in the process now of having to prove to them that it was a quality issue. I have already done all this once in my application for repairs. This will be the third time that all the information has been sent.

Second issue I have is since January my pump has been replaced 2 times with a service call in for the same issue. My unit is not working again. That will be 3 pumps replaced in 5 months. They will not replace the product and will not guarantee me in writing that they will replace the pump if it goes again after warranty. The only reason I'm even checking off one of the rating stars is for those customer servant agents that apologized wishing they could do more for me but their hands were tied. Has to be very hard to work for a company that isn't based on ethics.

After being told that this washer was the most top-rated, we decided to make the move to this HE machine to save water. It has the clear top, so we were suspicious from the start with the minimal activity and agitation seen with the impeller system versus our old machine, plus it appeared that some clothes weren't even getting wet! But the information we had read told us that all of this was normal.

We were shocked at the 1:47 hours to complete a load, but again, we were able to wash twice as much in one load. BUT, a load of heavily soiled Levis from gardening, which would have been no problem with our old machine, came out filthy, even using the Heavy-duty cycle with extra water! TWICE!! This really is not acceptable, but we don't have a lot of faith in trying any other HE machine now either. We are reading bad reviews on pretty much all of them!

We've had this washer for about 2 years now and it is a terrible machine (the model is WM2050CW). When I wash shirts (4 or 5), I get soap stains on the shirts. The shirts have developed little 'pills' (I do small loads at a time). If we don't keep the door open at all times we get a smell from the washer. It uses such little water I can't see how clothes could possibly be clean. We bought this at a Sears Outlet store. The washer and dryer were returned by a customer and we know now why.

These were issues with the washer right from the start, but it's just getting worse (and more and more frustrating). I wish we'd bought a cheap top load washer. It takes forever to do a load of laundry and while it uses less water, it takes twice as much electricity. I thought it only fair to alert you to our dissatisfaction before we start to share with others. We had only heard good things about LG, but we will never buy another LG product, and we will urge anyone that will listen not to either.

Bought washing machine a little over 5 years. Front loader, very good looking LG model. One day the washing machine wasn't turning and started leaking water. Out of warranty, I decided to take it apart. I found that a piece of the back spider had broken off. The spider made a hole at the bottom of the plastic drum. Then, as you can see from the pictures noticed that the spider itself was crumbling into pieces. I bought the spider from SEARS parts and to my surprise the part was made by LG and it was bad, defective. When I inspected the spider had tiny cracks all over the place and in the crucial sections. My complaint is how can LG manufacture a spider that lasted less than 6 years and then does not try to fix its mistakes by improving the defective parts but just makes more of the same low quality.

Of course, they played the "warranty expiration" game and tried to charge for the parts & labor. BTW, there is also a RECALL on this model - major issues with the washer losing balance.

Luckily I had purchased an extended warranty plan. The Lowe's Service Advantage rep was very nice and set up an appointment with the local appliance repair tech. He arrived today and asked (1) had I had any service before and (2) did I know about a recall? No to both questions. He explained that he would order parts and set up an appointment for next week. So far today I've had uE messages on all my loads of laundry. Unfortunately it broke down and hence I had to buy a new pair. GE/Maytag/Whirlpool are the only brands with good household appliances. If you've never used a good machine before you'd never realize. My clothes aren't clean enough. High Efficiency is crap. It uses very little water to evenly wash clothes. I got over that hump by trying different options. Yet it's very rough on clothes. It also takes VERY long to wash. My old GE took only 45 mins to do an excellent wash. The same now takes 1 hr 47 mins! The dryer doesn't dry fully. Works ok only on small clothes like small towels etc., things like bed sheets don't dry evenly. Large loads irrespective of the size of the garment don't dry evenly. I gave 1 star because it's required. It's not worth any.

It is very quiet (despite what some say about excessive noise), and for the most part it cleans "okay." However, today, my wife put in some heavily soiled clothes, after an afternoon of working in her garden. These clothes were definitely dirty, but no different from clothes that we had washed dozens of times before in our previously-owned Kenmore agitator washer. Surprise! The claims we had read about that said the new impeller-type washer just didn't clean all that well are TRUE! As I write this, my wife is running the same clothes through a wash cycle for the THIRD TIME. This may not necessarily be an LG problem, but a problem with the basic concept of impeller washers. I will NEVER buy one again (unless that is all that I can buy). Sometimes new is not better.

We bought the above LG washer new at Best Buy on 3/16/14 along with an extended warranty. It wasn't delivered until 3/29/14. We ran it for ~2 weeks when on 4/13/14 it began spraying water all over our floor from the bottom right of the machine. I immediately called Best Buy about a return. Their policy is only 15 days. They count that 15 days from the date of purchase, not delivery. (Let that be a warning). So we only had the washer in our house and running for a few days before the return period ended. They would not honor a return and told us we had to go through LG. From there it got much, much worse. Have some patience to read the rest of this and you will get the true feel for LG's "Customer Service". Pray you never have a problem.

You can see in the attached transcripts that the repairman that came out basically saw a non-fixable problem and tried to the LG to condemn the unit. LG wouldn't do it as they saw it as "repairable". Our repairman said all other companies he deals with would take the repairman's recommendation and replace the unit. He warned us that LG is different and that they would "fight tooth and nail" to not have to exchange the unit. Afterwards, I contacted LG customer service on the phone and was placed on infinite hold two times. I finally resorted to the chat room option. Read the transcript to get their idea of "customer service". We had been without a washer for 2 weeks at that point and LG did absolutely nothing to help. No replacement, no loaner, no stipend towards a Laundromat, coupon, or even an apology. What we got was "we have 30 days to fix it per our warranty" and "it sounds inconvenient for you". There was zero attempt at trying to appease us as customers.

The 2nd round of parts came in, and sure enough as our repairman said, they didn't solve the problem. It was now 4/29 and we are livid to still be without a working washer after spending over $800. He provided them copies of our receipts and LG stated they would start processing an RA (return authorization review). We were told we would hear from LG in a day or so. A few days went by, I tried calling LG again. No response. Emailed. No response. Finally, managed to get hold of a Customer service manager. They told me they had 3 days to process an RA. I told her it had now been over a week. She didn't know what to say. She also stated they didn't have copies of our receipts. They did, but I resent them again. Now go to the next email string.

Today, my wife called again. LG said they didn't process anything because they didn't have the receipts. I had to provide them a THIRD TIME. We were then told it will take 3 working days or more to process the return through Best Buy and about another week to 10 working days before they will arrange for a replacement unit. That does not count time for delivery. They still don't care and won't help in any way. So we are looking at being without a washer for about 1-1/2 months or more. We are still scrambling to get laundry done. I will be looking to get the photos taken by our repairman showing the gap in the machine and post them once received.

Consequences? My wife has been traveling 20 miles each way to her mothers house ~2-3 times per week to do laundry. A few times she has gone to a local neighbor's house. I have had to leave work early and take personal time to travel 30 miles (45 minutes) on 3 occasions so far to deal with the service calls. Hours spent on the phone and the Internet trying to reach resolution. Inconvenience. Frustration. Strained relationships with relatives. A mess on our floor that I had to clean up. About 1-1/2 months without a washer after spending $800 on what was sold to me as a supposed functional unit.

After more than 6 non-productive service calls to my pristine LG washer, which was shutting down as a result or a false error code, I sent the following to the head of LG in the US and copied the conglomerate's CEO. Nearly two months later, we have not had the courtesy of a reply from this unresponsive, arrogant, incompetent and corrupt company.

"I am writing directly to you in order to allow LG Electronics the opportunity to rectify a situation involving a washing machine, which has been deemed unrepairable by both an LG-certified repair service company and by your customer service organization, which refuses to offer equitable assistance in resolving the problem. Please note the washing machine is in good condition, not significantly worn, functions very well half of the time, and then shuts down showing a false error message.

In brief, the machine in question produces an error code and stops mid-cycle. After more than six service calls, replacement of several parts including the same parts multiple times, and numerous calls to the LG help desk, your authorized service technician declared the machine unrepairable and looked to LG for further guidance or, in the absence of guidance, an offer from LG to replace the machine since it is not repairable and well within what should be its useful life span. LG has refused because the machine, purchased in 2005, is out of warranty.

Mr. Cho, understand we are not seeking a free repair. We fully expect to pay for a repair on a machine that while out of warranty is still well within its useful life cycle. However LG has failed to produce an appliance which, when inexplicably logically shuts down, can be repaired by LG authorized service. As a result, we are forced to replace the appliance very prematurely. If you will not replace the appliance, then we request that you provide instruction on how a technician may bypass the board that is producing the erroneous fault code that is shutting down the machine mid-cycle. These good faith solutions are only reasonable.

In addition, and as a consequence of LG's failure to produce a machine which can be repaired, we have incurred expenses for sending laundry out to be done. While at this time we are not seeking reimbursement from you for these costs, which are now well over $1,000, we will not hesitate to include them in any legal action which we are forced to take against LG should LG refuse to act in good faith and choose to ignore our reasonable request. Such action may include, but not be limited to, commencement of a consumer fraud action against LG under M.GL 93 A, which provides for treble damages and attorney's fees.

Interestingly, from a non-exhaustive online search, we have learned that LG routinely refuses assistance to consumers with out-of-warranty machines, which are still within their useful life but cannot be repaired, because LG maintains the appliances are not intended to last. We therefore believe it would not be a difficult task to win class action status for any action taken against LG for intentional defects in its laundry appliances. In addition we will not hesitate to refer this case to the attorney general of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Mr. Cho, you should know that I was an early and loud proponent of your products and installed them in the laundry rooms of three estates and on my yacht as well. I did this despite the warnings of others that LG was merely the new incarnation of a Korean brand known for shoddy products, Goldstar and Lucky Goldstar. Now, it appears, your detractors were right and LG is interested only in volume sales and not in customer satisfaction or customer loyalty.

Mr. Cho, I do hope we can resolve this problem amicably and without legal action or publicity. However, please do not underestimate my resolve. As the founder and former CEO of a multibillion-dollar company, I well understand the difference between good faith effort and fraud. I am hopeful this situation is the former and not the latter. I am a consumer of means and I will not hesitate to pursue my claims against LG. I look forward to hearing back from you."

First I'd like to say that I am not a person often motivated to write reviews. I don't rush to review items that just meet my expectations. You'll only find a review from me if something is extremely worthwhile or, as in this case, seriously flawed. We purchased our brand new LG top-loading washing machine from Lowe's in December 2013 for almost $700. For the first four months I was in love with it. Then I inadvertently pushed the stop button instead of the pause button when the load I was washing became unbalanced. Since the load had reached the Rinse stage, I thought I'd just select the special option for Rinse/Spin. From that moment until just last week, I've had nothing but trouble from it, related to being out of balance. After stopping it and restarting, the machine filled several times with water that almost overflowed the tub. I had to keep pausing and stopping it to keep it from continuing to fill. From then on, every load I washed had to be redistributed at least twice, most of them four, five, or six times.

The straw that broke the camel's back came when it took me all day to get one load close to being done. Before the final jingle, I would have to go to work and couldn't finish the load. The next morning I would come in to find the load soured and smelly, so I would start it all over. This went on for 14 days. Finally, I'd had enough and called LG's customer service line. The CSR I talked to was condescending and snippy with me. I described the problem, only to be told that, either the installer didn't level the machine properly or "SOMEONE" (I wonder who she could be talking about?) had done something to the machine to cause it to be unbalanced. After I told her I wasn't stupid and actually did know she was referring to me, in a very rude manner she told me my issues were an installation problem and not covered under warranty. Then, she simply hung up on me. Since LG wouldn't help, I called the number for our extended warranty plan. Thank goodness we have that. The CSR there informed me that, "if LG says it is an installation issue, then we won't cover it either."

Maybe you should have Lowe's come out and level it. "My next call was to Lowe's, still trusting that it might be, in fact, an installation issue. The original installer showed up in short order, level in hand, to prove that, not only is the machine leveled properly, our floor was absolutely level as well. He suggested that I go to the store and speak to the manager, which I did. Actually, I ended up speaking to an assistant manager, who with a sincere straight face, called the salesman up to the service counter and asked him to call the extended warranty plan for me. The salesman, who was the same man that sold us this machine, repeated what he'd said to us when we bought the machine. "This is the top rated washing machine in the country. We haven't had any complaints at all about them." He did, however, call the warranty plan folks, who now were willing to arrange a service call.

Now, out of all of the people we talked to during a two-week period, at no point through all of this did anyone mention that there was a RECALL on this machine's controller board due to problems with... Can you guess...the machine continually being out of balance. Of all the negative reviews I had read during these two weeks, I only saw one where the controller board was mentioned. Apparently, no one at any point along the way wants the consumer to know that the machine has a KNOWN, WIDESPREAD, DOCUMENTED PROBLEM THAT RESULTED IN A RECALL. We only found out about the RECALL, because the service company, not wanting to waste their time on two service trips, called ahead to ask what issues we were having with the machine. As soon as my husband described our problems to them, their CSR told him about the RECALL. Said they would have to order the controller board and rescheduled the service call to a date after the part would be in.

Their technician came to the service call with the controller board in hand, which apparently was already loaded with updated software. Since having this board installed, I have used my machine heavily all day for the past four days. The only out of balance error I've seen was for a true out of balance condition where all my small load of clothes had ended up on one side of the tub. As long as this washer continues to operate the way it is now, I'm happy to own it. To LG, Lowe's, Lowe's Extended Warranty and any other company who sells this product without letting their customers know about this issue and the RECALL, I can only say SHAME ON YOU! BE HONEST WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS!! After being treated so dishonestly and shamefully by LG, I will never buy another LG product of any kind, even if I am told it is the top rated product in the country. LG obviously has no intention of standing behind their products when there is something wrong with them. I'm also shocked and seriously disappointed with Lowe's in whom I've had so much trust over past years.

Apparently their policy is one of loyalty to their manufacturers rather than their customers. Here's a clue, Lowe's. Without customers you don't need manufacturers. I'm afraid I won't be shopping at Lowe's for anything any more. And all of these bad feelings and sentiments could have been avoided simply by being honest with me about the issue and upfront about the RECALL. To all of you consumers who have one of these washers with similar problems, call as soon as possible to wherever you bought it and tell them that you know about the RECALL. Tell them you want it fixed or you want them to come and pick it up. Exchange it for a machine from a company who will stand behind their product to keep it working and their customers happy. Most of all, let's all quit buying products made by companies who don't keep the promises they make to us. If no one buys their products, they'll either have to change their business practices or go under. As for LG's flawed washing machine, it is my intent with this review to alert anyone who owns one about the RECALL. Remember: RECALL RECALL RECALL RECALL RECALL RECALL RECALL. Take advantage of the RECALL!

WT5001Cw washer purchased on 3/17/12 from Sears. Contacted Sears within 1st year to say washer would not dispense hot water. Sent tech out and was told LG said working according to specs. Tech told me to purchase extended warranty so machine would have to be replaced if 4 service calls were made in 1st year for same problem. I did that and then Sears said it didn't apply because LG said working according to specs. After Sears sent 4 technicians out over a period of 1 1/2 years and after the 1st year manufacturer warranty ran out, I was told that nothing could be done.

My argument is: I should have been told at purchase or stated in the manual that the machine would not dispense water above 98 degrees, even though it had a "hot water" selection on it. 98 degrees scientifically is considered lukewarm and the machine will not go above 98 degrees which prohibits me from killing microorganisms in bed linens and bacteria in reusable baby diapers. Sears would not help me and referred me to LG. LG said they can't do anything because the machine is past the 1st year warranty, even though I contacted Sears, who contacted LG within that 1st year. Sears continued to send technicians out with non-workable ideas to get hot water when the bottom line was, it is impossible to get hot water. The machine mixes cold water even when the setting is on hot. I have written to Sears CEO Eddie Lampert and LG corporate office and received responses "Sorry but we can't help you with this problem."

Just another complaint about an LG front load washer not being able to complete the spin cycle due to the load not being able to balance. Many have suggested dumping the LG and getting another brand. Often the other brands have the same issues. Samsung is one. Another problem is who is actually making the other brands, such as Maytag, etc. Often you just exchange brands, then you exchange terrible customer service centers, poor customer service centers, poor warranty service. In an attempt to make these products more feature rich, they become too complex, too problematic, too difficult and expensive to fix. I am sure that the companies are overwhelmed with complaining customers. If they get in a pattern of fixing a few machines, then all users will expect their machines to get fixed. The companies are not going to do that. Hence, the customer suffers. There should be more consumer protections regarding these products and their repairs.

Shortly after we bought it, we noticed that our laundry was coming out with a "sewage smell" on it. We used the tub clean cycle as often as possible but it didn't really help. We also started to leave the door open which helped somewhat but the odor never really went away. On one occasion, I found that the machine had dumped suds on the floor. Last week I washed a load of towels and during the cycle, smoke started coming out of the drum area. I called Leon's in Bancroft who referred me to a local service man as the machine was out of warranty. The service man said he would look a the machine but if it needed parts he couldn't help me as LG would not supply him with parts or tech support.

I emailed LG who replied that they only supply parts to authorized service agencies. The one for my area was 60 kilometers away. LG stated that they would do a 1 time courtesy repair. I asked if they would also address the sewage stink issue as well. I was advised to add "powdered" detergent to the washer and cycle it to remove residue. I was also advised to mix up a solution of bleach and water and wipe down the gasket and dry it after each use! I also asked about what would happen the next time the machine started to smoke. I imagine that I would have to call the service agent who is 60 kilometers away and pay time and mileage as well as the service time. As far as I am concerned, where there's smoke there's fire and I don't trust this faulty machine to be in my house. It is now in my back yard and I purchased a top loading machine (not LG). What is LG going to do for their customers? I'm not saving money since I have to wash my clothes several times. I have to buy products to wash the machine itself. I had to go and buy brand new towels because I do not want my family drying themselves with moldy smelling towels, but even that is not working because the new towels are already starting to smell like mold. I am SO disappointed and SO mad that I used my hard earned money on this piece of crap washer machine!!!!!

Per LG, we clean all the areas they told us & leave door & dispenser open when not in use. We have complaints to LG several times - but they were no help. Periodically, about once a month or two, the machine will dump a load of slimy black crap on our clothes at the end of a wash cycle. We leave the door open, clean the filter fairly often, and drain the tube. No warning - it just 'happens'. Use HE detergent sparingly and 'Warm/Cold' or mostly 'Cold/Cold' setting. Has done this since day one. We do clean the seal around the door as well. Not sure why this stuff 'burps' out once in a while, but more than just annoying. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

I called the LG Washer Recall Hotline first thing Monday morning. I was told that I would get a call in three to five business days to schedule an appointment. That's a long time to wait just to get the appointment. So I called Best Buy since I bought an extended warranty of 5 yrs (glad of that!). They are not allowed to service recall problems. So, today being day four of the five-day wait, I thought I'd call the service provider they assigned me to. No answer, but I left a message. I thought what the heck, maybe I should call LG back. Guess what? They made an error, the man said. They never gave the repair facility a phone # to reach me at.

Gee, I would think someone would look at the repair order and figure that out! So, here I sit with laundry piling up because I have an inoperable machine. The drum came off! I'm just lucky nothing was ruined inside of it when this happened. I'm so shocked by this ineptitude. I once had a GE refrigerator go out. I called the company and told them it was maybe four years old. They had two people out to replace the motor the same day. What a difference from LG! Oh, and my LG is three years and four months old. I hear Speed Queen is the best, but I never see it sold anywhere! I would caution everyone to avoid LG!

I found myself with so much time on my hands that I didn't know what to do with myself. I love this machine but for one drawback - RUST. THE BLEACH DISPENSER STARTED RUSTING AFTER A YEAR ALONG WITH WHERE THE TOP GLASS MEETS METAL ON THE LID. The only rust I have had on any of my washers was when it got scratched on the sides. I have never had rust like this. I read reviews that said its because of the bleach. If the manufacturer is aware of this, then why isn't preventative measures taken to prevent this? My washer continues to work perfectly but am afraid I will have to replace it because of the rust. I sanded and used Rust-Oleum paint only to have it return.

Received letter in May 2013 about recall of LG washer that I purchased about 18 months previously. Called the number listed and set up appointment for replacement of "motherboard". That is when the problems started. There were numerous problems and it involved many calls to the company. Six months and eight technician visits later I finally got through to a company supervisor who agreed to replace the recalled machine. Delivered on November 27th, 2014. The very first time I used it the machine shut down completely while full of water. Put cycle on drain and spin and it solved that problem.

In the following four months there have been a number of other problems including very low water fill, even for smaller loads. Extremely frustrating because I have to keep pressing the button for extra water and it only puts in a small amount. After the fourth press, it fills to the very top which is too much water. There is no happy medium. Also, there is a button for warm water but it always fills with cold water. As with all the other complaints I have read, there is also a balance problem with this machine. I have placed several calls to the supervisor I spoke with in November but they have been ignored. The machine that I had before the LG was a Maytag and I used it hard (we were a family of three children and three adults) and it went strong for 23 years. The only replacement on it was a belt. If my calls to the company are not returned, I intend to fill out a complaint with the BBB.

The instruction manual does not require that the four screws be taken out for cleaning. The manual requires cleaning of the plastic area so that the dispensers work well, which we did. I reported this to LG with the pictures that I am sharing. They asked me if I use corrosive materials like bleach. Of course we do and the dispenser has a location where to apply the bleach. This unit is not heavily used (3 people), well cleaned and maintained (I am an engineer). It is no longer under warranty and LG said that it is cosmetic. Just ran into problems with a code popping up and the washer quitting after about 10 minutes of use. The only option was to drain and spin once that happened. When it spinned it sounded like a jumbo jet preparing for takeoff. Anyway, we waited 7 days for a tech to come out because there is only one authorized dealer per city I believe. He had to order a part so we had to wait 14 days for it to arrive. He put it in and ran the machine on empty and all seemed well. I mentioned the jumbo jet noise and he said that's not a good sign. Of course it didn't do it while he was there.

He said if this part isn't the problem then you need a new circuit board and the jumbo jet noise would be the barrings and if that is the case it's best to cut your losses. After that we put a light load in and the same thing happened all over again. Complete waste of time and money. While all this was going on, the dryer also started to smell like burning diesel fuel inside when we ran it. We didn't bother to call back. We are done playing games. We are moving on to Maytag. The tech replaced both circuit boards but it still does not work. LG insists that because the tech said that it does add a small amount of water there is nothing wrong.

I tried to explain that a cup of water at the very end of the rinse cycle, which does not ever agitate and immediately drains out is NOT how it's supposed to work. Well, I've finally had it with this machine. We bought it & the matching electric dryer from former homeowners when we bought their house. Guess we should have done more research into the plethora of problems these sorry "excuse for an appliance" really have. These junkers would've been out on the road the second we moved in. First, within a month the dryer died. One morning I turned it on & it started smoking, so that was that. Out to the curb!

Next, we had been using the LG steam washer for about 4 months & continually noticed water on the floor around it. Never really found where it was coming from other than a drip streak down the side around the detergent "drawer" where you add the soap/bleach. Another issue was the door lock kept malfunctioning & wouldn't let the load run unless you either slammed the door shut or put pressure on it with your knee when it was trying to lock. Then the thing would sound like a 747 taking off when it was in spin mode. It would shake violently & eventually wake up the baby with it's deafening whir.

Finally, it showed an error message saying the pump wasn't able to drain the tub because of a clog or something. So I got on my hands & knees to screw open the drain "trap" & 5 gallons of water came gushing out all over the floor. There is a small rubber hose down there also, but when I took out the plug on the end of it no water drained out. What gives LG? Do you need a wet/dry vac at the ready to do this procedure or a stack of towels so you don't trash the floor? Very poor design! And doing this did absolutely nothing. Same error code came up & the pump just sickly rumbled. So it is now out on the curb also awaiting a trip to the dump where it belongs. Please, everyone, do not buy these piece of refuse appliances from LG. You will only bring upon yourself great pain & grief. Time to break out the old GE top loader that I know works fine. Glad I held onto it for back up. DON'T BUY LG!!!

Bought April 2013. Drying fault reported November 2013. Machine blew up/imploded February 2013. After 3 engineer visits that took 2 months to complete the machine was deemed repaired (engineer 1 guessed the fault wrong, engineer 2 guessed the fault right but instead of logging it he marked the job as complete, engineer 3 brought the right part and recommissioned the machine).

Soon after during a fast spin cycle the machine "exploded". By that I mean that it spun out of control at 1400 RPM, a bracket broke, the motor is broken, the drum is broken and in all I have a ruined appliance - what would have happened if my terrified wife had not been there to hit the power supply off (not to mention what could have happened to her)? The machine did not cut itself out. The 4th engineer found essential fixing screws were not where they should be ... did engineer 3 fail to correctly put the machine back together, or did LG supply a dangerously defective machine?

I would be able to answer these questions if LG showed any interest at all in handling my complaints. After being escalated numerous times to supervisors we have never heard from a supervisor. We have never received an apology. We are forced to accept the same sub-contracted repair company to tinker with this appliance. I have told the supplier that I am not accepting anymore repairs and I am demanding a refund. This is spiraling into a court case.

This machine cost 600. It is meant to be the best. Instead, it broke down within the first year and the after sales warranty service has been appalling. Their telephone number costs money to ring, it inevitably means a lengthy wait and discussion, the person at their end has no authority other than to follow a script, their supervisors make no attempt to communicate to us, their repair service is awful (4 engineers!!! and after the 3rd the machine exploded!).

I rang their head office and the abrupt receptionist repeatedly told me to speak to customer service about my problem and that they do not give out names ... the senior managers are ring fenced in hiding from customers who are thoroughly fed up with their service. I tried publicly shaming them into giving me what they legal have to. Their Facebook team ignored me and their Twitter team gave me the link to their website. Seriously, this is a company that shows no interest in customer service. If they did, then I would not be in this situation.

(And for info, the initial fault is a drying fault. The machine vents the steam during the drying cycle via the water waste pipe. Before it gets there it passes through an internal chamber and takes with it all the lint, hair and other debris collected in a drying cycle. However, that muck instead of being discharged settles on the inside of this chamber. It builds up and then blocks the chamber. This then means the machine can NOT remove the steam generated during a drying cycle so the clothes just become so hot that they will burn skin - proof being when my wife burnt herself on the machine. Now, being a simple customer I of course can't state the obvious that this is a fundamental design flaw. I have to PAY for a qualified engineer to inspect the machine and they have to write a report to state this. 1 - I have to PAY! 2 - What independent engineer is going to do that against a mega corporation?)

I will never buy LG again and their level of customer service has pushed me to channel my anger into putting an objective and correct review of them on any review site I can find. Not to mention an exponential Facebook network. They just do not care.

Repairman said in the $800 range. That is ridiculous for a machine that is less than 5 years old and was so expensive to begin with. And it sounds like this is a manufacturing problem as I read so many others who have this exact same thing happen. Can we say class action law suit? Sign me up.

They said I needed to reduce the load. What? I did that and the problem still exists. The electronic fixes did not work. This machine is clearly a "LEMON" and should never be purchased. LG is offering NO customer service. I just wanted a dryer to dry my clothes without have to clean and adjust things myself. They obviously put too many bells and whistles on this dryer to the detriment of it's primary use - drying clothes!! Don't Buy LG Appliances.

I purchased the LG top load washing machine model WT4870C only two months ago. It kept giving this unbalance code and no matter what I tried it stopped. LG did a over the phone diagnostic and informed the repairman what was wrong with. I also told LG and the repairman over the phone it looked like the drum seam was splitting. They totally discounted what I said, and a week later the repairman showed up with a number of parts. He took one look and said the drum (tub) was splitting apart. I called Lowe's but the only way Lowe's would give me my money back or replace it, was if I got a return authorization number from LG.

My concern was that I just got a lemon and wanted to avoid a bunch of repairs. I wanted a new one. LG executive department said she could not give me a return authorization until I gave the repairman a chance to fix it. I was not happy but I said I'd do it. Then, I thought I would check the LG recalls. It seems that this drum problem was not new. Then, I got into the consumer affairs comments and couldn't believe all the different types of problems LG washing machines were having! Repair after repair! Serious issues... flooding?! Traveling across a room! I'm afraid to have it in my home! I'm already having nightmares. I will use every means I can afford to try to get my money back and buy a different washer. I purchased an LG Washing machine with the pedestal back in April of 2010 for $1,309.95 from P.C. Richard's. After 3-years and 4-months, my machine stopped spinning and had a loud squeaking noise. I paid about $400.00 in repairs at that time for a power cord and the computer control panel which completely burnt out. After the P.C. Richard's Repair Man left, I washed exactly 2-loads of clothes before the washer stopped spinning and I had to call the Repair man back from P.C. Richard's to find out what the problem was. Well after the 4th visit from P.C. Richard's Repair Men, I was told that a Ball Barren was missing and it would be a very expensive job to do.

With that being said, I went for a second opinion and was told that was indeed the problem which would cost me $500.00 to repair. You know when people purchase expensive appliances like washers and dryers from Manufacturers like LG, they expect the product to last at least 10 to 15 years. I am deeply disgusted and appalled. What can I do to seek punitive damages? I am a working mother of 3 and am at a hardship to make ends meet and cannot afford a new washer right now which I was told by the repairman I should purchase a new machine. In TEARS, can someone help me please?

We being just me and my wife have had the above LG Ultra Washer for 4 years. Within the last 6 to 8 months the washer started to sporadically leak water on the floor which we could not identify where it was coming from. In the last 6 weeks the washer developed a bearing whine that grew louder by the day. I spoke with a LG CSR and explained the symptoms. The CSR stated it sounded like a major repair and I was given the repair charges. I asked why the charges were so high given its a known problem. LG flat out refused to even just pay for the parts. I in turn had my long time appliance tech come out and we removed the tub assembly. We found what we expected in that the tub bearing seal failed and took out the bearings. The tub bearing seal was either damaged during assembly at the factory or the seal was defective. LG refuses to assist customers in any way with this issue outside of the 1 year warranty. Worse is that it is a known problem. Makes one rethink spending this kind of money on a LG product. Four years old with very low usage and in need of a major repair with in 4 years. Not Good.

We bought the LG Steam Washer and the Steam Dryer, with pedestals in December of 2008 from Best Buy for more than $2,600. We're a retired couple, doing a maximum of 3 loads (not large) a week. 5 years later, the washer makes a horrendous noise on the spin cycle @ medium speed or higher. Some of the dryer cycles don't run as long as they're supposed to (and the clothes are still damp). I called LG and they gave me the name of a certified LG repairman in our area, who told us that we needed a new rod and bearings for a total of more than $600. He said we were lucky it lasted this long!!! I called LG back to seek some other recourse, and a customer service person who could barely speak English said there was nothing they could do for me. I sure wish I'd read the comments on this website BEFORE purchasing an LG. I will never buy another LG product.

Not so. After 2 years, the washing machine needed new bearings with a cost of $700.00 to repair. Now, there are only two of us, no children so we barely use the washing machine. For this machine to work only two years is clearly a manufacturer's defect. The LG engineers are designing these appliances not to last and they don't. I called LG customer service and they could care less about my problem. They basically told me to take a walk. I will never buy anything from LG again.

I purchased a new LG High Efficiency top load washer, model WT1101CW, on August 12, 2013, for a total of $659.98. On January 19th 2014, 5 months after my purchase the water would not drain from my machine. I had to pull a full load of laundry out and squeeze each dripping piece of laundry in my laundry tub. I called LG and was told that I would have to use a local third party service company to provide warranty service. They put me in touch with a dispatch center to set up a service date of Saturday January 22nd. I remembered that I had purchased an extended service agreement from Best Buy when I purchased the washer, so I then called into Best Buy Geek Squad. They were able to get someone out on Monday January 24th which worked better for me due to my work schedule. Best Buy also assured me that they are authorized to provide warranty service so I decided to use the service from Best Buy.

When the technician arrived he discovered that the pump on the machine was not operating at all. He called dispatch and ordered the part, we set up the service for the following Monday, February 3rd. He also told me that if the part did get to me sooner I should call and let dispatch know because it might then be possible to get someone to install the new pump sooner. As of Thursday evening I had not yet received the part. I called to check on the status but was told that the part is on back order and there is no indication of when it will arrive.

I am entirely disgusted with this situation. There is absolutely no reason that a 5-month-old machine should malfunction. It is also a new LG model so one would think that parts should be readily available. Unless the pump on this model is defective across the board and that is why they do not have any in stock. Up to this point I have loved everything about this machine. Now I am entirely dissatisfied with the LG product. I have two weeks' worth of laundry in a household of four people and there is no indication of when I will be able to do my laundry. I might also add that I live in the Chicago area and we have been having absolutely nasty weather, which is not at all conducive to loading up a car with 5 to 7 loads of laundry to tote back and forth through several feet of snow.

I am however satisfied with the help that we have received from Best Buy. They have even offered to reimburse us for our cost to use a laundromat. The Best Buy policy will replace this machine with a new one if it takes 30 or more days to receive the part. While this is wonderful on the part of Best Buy agreement, it is completely unacceptable to me that I will have to be further inconvenienced by LG and have no idea as to how much longer this will take.

Top loading washing machine LG wt1101c purchased at home depot - My concern is the excessive amount of water that it uses. I set the controls for bulky bedding for a test run. After many starts and stops in its cycle it finished its cycle. Then to my surprise it used 18 gallons of water in the wash cycle and an additional 18 gallons in the spin and rinse cycle. I have a 40 gallon hot water tank and it used it all… (I have a double wash tub that the used water is pumped into, dim 19-19-12= 4332 cu inches) 4332/231 = approx. 18 gallons per each side 18+18=36 gallons on a washing/rinsing cycle. There must be some cycles that use less water.

The machine I understand, weighs the load and adds the correct amount of water. I have asked LG for a chart or list showing how much water per pound is used or for each setting. I received NO REPLY. There is nothing in the operational manual giving this information. Also there is a digital readout on the control panel that means nothing. For instance If it says 54 and it starts its countdown the washer will do a series of rotational jiggles and the countdown stops and does not keep track of the time correctly (it may say 54 but it takes 70 before it stops).

The washer looks good, washes clean but the instruction manual needs to be rewritten to address these items and take into consideration this needed information. Thank everyone for permitting me to list my complaints and suggestions. If and when these suggestions are addressed I would like a revised instruction manual to be sent to me.

We bought an LG front loading washing machine from Sears one year ago. It began making more noise on the spin cycle than a jack hammer, and almost vibrated its way out into the hallway. We called Sears repair for service. That was our second mistake! They sent a repairman only to have him make a list of parts totaling more than the original price of the machine. I asked why they don't just replace the machine and his comment was, "We don't replace machines!" What a joke! So a week later, an entire pallet of boxes filled with parts shows up at the front door. A few days later, two repairmen showed up to put humpty dumpty back together again.

Well, that wasn't going to happen that day because, much to our surprise, the repairman needed more parts to fix the problem. So he ordered more parts and we waited another week for him to show up with his magic wand. I tried to discuss the issue with a manager but none wanted to talk with an actual customer. Imagine that! It's no wonder Sears is struggling to avoid bankruptcy. With nonexistent customer service, poor quality of appliances and zero accountability, the end is certainly coming. I do not wash rugs or large blankets or comforters. I have those professionally cleaned. Recently the washing machine began making really loud noises so I called a service technician. He tells the stainless steel basket has somehow become "bent." I was told that there is a lifetime warranty on it as it should never "bend" with normal use. He suggested that it may have been defective to begin with. I called LG service center and was told it was in fact covered but of course they have no LG technicians in my area to install this basket and referred me to their "authorized" technicians.

It will cost over $600 to replace this basket. When I explained to the rep that that cost was near what it would cost to purchase a new washing machine, she said there was nothing they could do. I have owned several homes and several rental properties and I never had a washing machine stop working after 3 years even with the worst tenants using them. I take care of my appliances and I am appalled that after only 3 years of less than average use, their product will cost $600 to repair. I purchased this LG Top Loader washer in October 2010 along with the extended service agreement. From the beginning I had nothing but problems, I got the UE code often, it would run the rinse cycle over and over, clothes ended up in a knot, etc. The service company checked it, said the legs needed balancing and it was fine, NOT FINE! Finally the recall happened and after "fixing" it, everything was WORSE. Every load was UE, the timer wouldn't advance, all the issues I have read about here. The service agreement sent someone out who was here 1 minute and said this was an LG issue and they would call me back. No call back, numerous calls to LG who opened a "case" at my insistence at a replacement. LG said they would get back with me in 7 to 10 days, which didn't happen. Set up another appointment with service contract, took the morning off work, and guess what a NO SHOW!!!

I suggest everyone with these problems call Consumer Affairs (the government agency listed on our recall letters), I lodged a complaint there and was seriously considering joining one of the class action lawsuits about this fiasco! Service company said I had to have one more service call before they would consider the machine a LEMON, so I insisted it NOT be a third party vendor, but an actual LG repair person. This person called me to let me know when he would be here, had a LG shirt on, and after one minute said the recall "fixer" only did half the job, not to worry he could fix it. He said some of the vendors LG hired to do the recalls only replaced the software and then didn't do the proper programming. He proceeded to replace the rotors, the motor and finished programming the software. It did work!

Not perfect as my clothes are more wet than I would like, so I have to run an extra spin cycle sometimes, but I am not getting the UE error codes, and able to use spin only cycle without water dumping in! He said don't use the cotton/normal setting, use casual and if washing towels wash 4, not only 2, and better to do bigger loads than small. The machine has a hard time sensing light small loads. I still would never purchase an LG large appliance again, or certainly this big fancy machine if I knew small light loads would be an issue, and certainly will not purchase an extended service agreement! So, moral of the story... INSIST on an actual LG repair person, even when dealing with the extended service company.

Approximately 6.5 years after the purchase, the washer broke, specifically the metal spindle completely cracked from the metal drum. I called an LG endorsed repairman who ordered a new metal drum. Three weeks later, the drum came in but was damaged. He returned it and ordered another one. Two weeks later, the wrong drum was received. Again, he called and verified the part and this time, it took four weeks to arrive.

When he went to replace the drum, it wouldn't fit and when he called the company (tech support), they verified that the drum was not the original piece. They also told him (and this was in front of me) that the specific type is no longer manufactured and that my washer would need to be retrofitted to accommodate the new drum type. This would cost more than the washer! I called customer support at LG and was told that they do not accept complaints. I asked what was done when one was sent in and was told that they just collected the complaints. I was hesitant to try a new brand, but my daughter has an LG TV that she's been pleased with, so I thought I'd give LG a try. I've raised three children and now have a grandchild, my husband's a mechanic and we farm as well, so I've put washers through a lot over the 30+ years of married life. I've never had a washing machine rust before this one. The compartment that is specifically designed for bleach is all rusted out, so I now wait until the washer is full and just dispense the bleach directly into the load. The back of lid that you can't see is also rusted.

I take good care of my appliances by wiping them down and keeping dust off of them on a regular basis, so this isn't operator's fault, this is poor materials and manufacturing. This also does not have the center agitator like the old designs and it just doesn't get my clothes as clean as with the agitator bar. I did read about the mildew smell that can occur in these new HE washers and I've avoided this by leaving the lid and soap dispensers open after each load to air things out. I've also been using the "tub clean" cycle with the special Tide cleaner about once every two months. Needless to say, I will not be buying anymore LG products. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

LG "Customer Service" states it is physical damage or it is cosmetic (not warranted) both of which are CYA excuses for bad design or sloppy manufacturing. If a plastic part can damage the paint on a metal panel enough to initiate rusting, then there is either a design problem or a manufacturing problem, neither of which they wish to hear about. The appliance serviceman sent to our house by LG made 4 unsuccessful attempts to fix it, over a span of about 4 weeks. He tried replacing both the latch (twice) and the door (twice). After this, LG wanted the service company to order still more parts for more repair attempts, but the service company finally called and told us to "call LG and tell them you want a new machine." We did, last week. After several days I called LG again. Nothing had happened, since they required an "official receipt" (proof of purchase), which wasn't mentioned in the previous call. The LG rep then said to allow 4-5 days for a resolution. Today I called back and was told it takes 7 days for the claim investigation to be completed. So it's been 5 1/2 weeks since we've had a working washer, and only God knows when we'll have one again. Instead, we're treated to multiple trips to distant laundromats and picturesque, sky-high piles of unwashed clothes. I purchased this sleek machine from Lowe’s and parked the box in my basement anticipating opening day. As life would have it, I didn't have the big reveal until almost two months later. Opening night was great. Old Kenmore was removed after 15 years. I was due for an upgrade, I believed. LG was it! Water hooked, check; machine leveled, check. All components checked and re-checked. And then we tried a load.

The auto select set me up to wash for more than an hour, but I looked beyond that. I questioned the few 'drops' of detergent needed as well as the few 'drops' of water the machine used, but I looked beyond those too. I walked away and was summoned back to my laundry room by the banging of this beaut in the spin cycle. The machine almost met me at the stairs; its movements were so profound! We checked, doubled, tripled everything - the very spot where my Kenmore sat for years was no longer good enough for King LG. We must have done something wrong, so we tried again. After all, this was an LG!

That was enough for me! Returned this fabulous looking useless piece of junk to Lowe’s who informed me that their return policy was seven days on appliances! I called LG, per Lowe’s instructions. Both LG and Lowe’s suggested a repair man. To repair what?? The once-used over buttoned, fab looking ornament? Disgusting! LG should be ashamed of this pile of junk and should stick to what they know. These corporations, including the retailers who carry these over priced inferior products have no integrity and should be held accountable! I'm not done with Lowe’s or LG! We bought an LG front loading high efficiency washer a few years ago and it has been nothing but trouble. The maintenance required for routine use is more than one would expect for an appliance such as a washing machine. The machine routinely soils and streaks clothes and has ruined countless garments despite the suggested tub cleaning, wiping down, and costly extra tub cleaner. Additionally, the washer often leaks soapy water into the floor despite the use of HE detergent, meticulous measuring of detergent so as not to overfill.

Now I must wash only small loads to keep leakage to a minimum--one of the big selling points was the ability to efficiently do large loads. Over recent days, I have had consistent leaking. I suspect we may have water damage below the floor, but no visible staining of the lower ceiling as of yet. I am constantly washing towels that I have to use to clean up the mess from routine use of the appliance. This product is a lemon. There should be some sort of buy back or trade in for some other, more useful washing machine.

Our service person from the warranty company called LG and gave us a number to hopefully replace it. After six weeks of working with them we were given two reference numbers and felt confident that the problem was being solved and they had our initial sales receipt. We found out we have been working with a call center in the Philippines from a LG representative in Alabama. When I asked why they have indicated to us things were progressing he said you are dealing with people in the Philippines and they are going to tell you want you want to hear.

In the end, I was told our washer had gone for final review and we would be contacted in 10 to 12 business days about its possible replacement since it is irreparable. When I called to find out why I had not heard back, I was given the run around again. It was only when I insisted several times on talking corporate that I learned we would have to go through the extended warranty company which was not the information we received at first. So for over six weeks we believed LG was handling this professionally only to find we had been given the run around and dealing with people who really did not understand what they were doing. I am very concerned about this kind of professionalism and why we weren't told after numerous calls and all the information they had that they were not going to replace our washer. So if you have problems beware that even though you feel reassured the problem is being dealt with, it might not be. So why did they lead us on for five weeks and numerous phone calls? What I read is they were previously GOLDSTAR.... and if memory serves me correctly, GOLDSTAR was something you would buy at the supermarket.

LG WaveForce TrueBalance anti-vibration system Model #WT5101HV, Product Code #T1309ADFH6.ASSEEUS. Bought washer & matching dryer 11/27/2010 with 5 year extra warranty on both. Three years of hell! Large-capacity washer that simply WILL NOT BALANCE, but will instead of sounding a buzzer that it is OFF BALANCE, will just restart the countdown timer as it REFILLS with WATER and starts the rinse cycle... again and again and again. Found out the hard way one time 5 hours later that it was still restarting the rinse cycle because it could not balance itself, yet it had never once sounded with the buzzer. Yes, the buzzer can work on occasion, but the load has to be very off balance.

When I first got it and the countdown timer reset and the rinse cycle started again, I mistook that it was just part of the machine's normal operation, but there is nothing normal for the waste of water and the amount of time I spend standing in front of the washer trying to catch it before it resets AND the amount of time I spend rearranging the load to try and balance it in the tub to the machine balance sensor's satisfaction... up to 30 minutes at a time moving heavy wet clothes around or removing them by hand to place one on this side and one on that side... endless aggravation. Even if I use the lowest spin and step it up to the highest spin, it will not balance. If you don't use the highest spin cycle (or step up from low to high) it takes nearly 2 hours to dry clothes on the 2nd highest spin cycle.

The factory recall notice that I received was merely an insult to the problem because it does not address the ACTUAL issue -- which is that it will not balance. Instead, the recall wants to tell me not to wash raincoats or such nonsensical "how to or not to use" the machine "properly." It will not balance with: ONLY pants or ONLY shirts or ONLY towels or ONLY pajamas. The bigger the load in this large-capacity washer, the bigger the balance problem. If I wash a tiny load like socks, it might actually finish the load all by itself once-in-a-while, but why have a LARGE-CAPACITY washer if it is useless? If you mix shirts and pants, be prepared to untangle the biggest wet knots you have ever seen! I stopped using the low-water features a long time ago when my clothes did not clean properly, so I now use the Bulky/Bedding setting, which fills the tub with water.

When I used the low-water features, the balance problem was exactly the same. I always keep the door open when not in use, so it does not stink itself up and requires special tub cleaning. I have only had to clean it once. Since the normal way this company has responded to the myriad of consumer complaints is even more impossible than dealing with the product, I see no reason to play their game of endless "service calls" when NO SERVICEMAN CAN POSSIBLY REDESIGN A FLAWED APPLIANCE. I have not heard of any service call fixing this model's problems. I bought a 5-year service policy with 2 years left. This machine's design is a lemon, so where is the company's restitution to us consumers? I don't want the "upgraded software" because it takes away wash settings and spin RPMs that I bought in the first place. A recall that is stone-cold useless and removes some original wash (gentle) and spin (extra high) variations is their "restitution," so consumer take heed.

I bought my LG washing machine three years ago. It was recalled due to issues with the drum. I had a repair guy come out and fix it. I have continued to have issues. The drum is loud and bounces, hitting the inside of the machine. It is piercing loud! I called customer service and the associate told me to file a claim and proof of purchase stating they would replace it since I was continuing to have problems. When I called to follow up on the commitment, a supervisor stated that they would need to repair the machine multiple times before issuing a new one. A commitment should not have been made and instead they should have sent someone out. I do most of my wash on the weekend because I work and have small kids so I'm busy during the week. I called again to ask for a repair person to come fix it and the representative stated that I would need to call from 8-5 so they could troubleshoot over the phone. I cannot take off work for this. The other frustrating aspect about dealing with this company is no accountability, being passed from employee to employee with no resolution. Also needing to repeat the entire issue over And over. I will never buy an LG product again and will use social media to get my story out to family And friends so they know the issues I have had.

I bought my LG Washer and Dryer on August 22, 2013 (installed by HD at the end of August) at the Home Depot and had no issues until Dec. 6, 2013. I ran a load of clothes that I started before the cable company had someone come fix my cable. I heard the beep but I couldn't go check on it because of the cable guy. Cable guy goes to leave and says where is all the water coming from? You guessed it, the washer dumped all of its water on my floor, error code E1/1E. I turned off the water supply and started working on getting the water up. Had to call ServPro to help with the damage. All the flooring in my hall, entry way and most of the flooring in my great room.

I have the claims adjuster coming out on Monday. I called Home Depot and asked the guy in the appliance area if they warranty the washer or LG. Told me since I didn't get an "extended" warranty they wouldn't repair or replace it, I needed to call LG. Call center outside the US told me to check the back and make sure the plastic on the back of the water plugs at the top were snug and if they weren't there may be a little bit of water. I told him the leak came from below the washer. The wall behind my washer had no water where the water plugs were only at the baseboards. He repeated again it would be a small amount of water. When I told him it flooded my whole house, he sent me to a local repair service. I said I no longer trusted the washer that flooded my house, I'd want a replacement not a repair. He said the repairman would need to come out and get the faulty parts replaced. So talked to the local serviceman and he said someone would call me on Monday to set a time to come out. I am going up to Home Depot tomorrow to talk to the manager. They should back up a product I got from there 3 months ago. The ServPro guy told me he's seen a number of LG washers with issues. Said they make great TVs but bad washers.

He said nothing was wrong with it, that I must be overloading the washer. I explained to him that it wasn't being overloaded and that the 1st technician ran the cycle and he saw the water coming out, that is why he ordered the part. 2nd technician refused to change any parts because he was convinced I was overloading the machine. He left without doing anything.

I washed clothes when he left. Same thing happened, water all over the place. I called service center and complained that 2nd technician didn't do anything. Service center kept telling me they would call me back, that didn't happen. I called again to speak to supervisor. LG Steam Washer WM2501h*A - I have been satisfied with this washer, except for its occasional inability to properly spin bulky or mixed loads. However all that changed the weekend before Thanksgiving when it apparently completed a load of clothes and then completely stopped functioning - no lights, no error messages, nothing. My husband did a bit of troubleshooting to make sure it was getting power (it was) and checking online. He suspected it needed a new motherboard. We found a local repairman who was able to come out the next day and he determined that was indeed the problem.

This washer is less than 3 years old, and after having an old workhorse of a heavy-duty Kenmore that worked reliably for more than 20 years, with minimal problem, I was very disappointed this new fancy machine was already having a problem with a repair cost of $350. We bought LG because they were getting good reviews, and spent a pretty good piece of change on both the washer and dryer - I would never have expected to have any problem in this short of a time frame. I probably should have stuck with an old top-loader with old proven mechanism instead of trying to go 'green' and save a little water... incredibly disappointed in LG.

It continued to leak even after turning the machine off it was a mess it I hope it hasn't ruined my floor, called LG they thought it might be the sensors coated with detergent scum. So suggested I run vinegar through machine…We did, it did not solve the problem. We called best buy who sent out a repair person within the hour.

He discovered after removing the back panel that the little clear hose that is connected to the tub and connects to a small drain tip that is connected to in the back of the machine had be pulled loose. The hose did not have a lot of give, so when the basket rotated it pulled it off. He gave it a little more slack, and it seems to be holding but we will see what happens… All in all, the machine has been working beautifully. I do not use any detergent on my clothes and they always come out clean and smelling clean. So when they say you need very little detergent I can see why. We also bought the matching dryer which is also fantastic…I called LG and let them know what Best buy found so they could notate, and make some changes. I have cleaned the gasket, inside of the tub, and door on the washing machine as directed by the manufacturer and run bleach through the tub clean cycle and still cannot get rid of the moldy smell. When cleaning the gasket, I noticed mold and mildew on the gasket and have cleaned them with modified bleach and even used Q-tips to remove the mold, it just comes back. Even after you wipe the gaskets off after each wash, you cannot get all of the mold out of the gaskets and this transfers to your clothes, sometimes needing to be rewashed 2 or 3 times. I keep the door open for ventilation but there is no way for the gasket area to stay completely dry. The smell is so bad at times you have to close the laundry room door to keep it from reeking into the rest of the house.

I am calling for service this week but I know what they are going to tell me which is exactly what I have been doing. I would not recommend this LG set to anyone. I bought an LG washing machine model WFT6500 at Courts (Mauritius) Ltd. in November 2009. Serial No. is 908.JWWZ00529. Never once washed clean and so wearily I almost never made use of it during the warranty period, thinking that it must be a machine with very low power and it is normal to wash dirty. However, after the warranty period, I contacted the seller who wanted to send someone to check but for a fee. I refused because they did not think it was a technical problem.

And so I blamed myself and nursed my woes stupidly until last month when I realized that the problem comes from the rinse cycle which is not functioning properly. It only spins the clothes but does not throw the water away nor does it do another rinse. The rinse cycle lasts only a few minutes with no additional water coming in or going out until the spin cycle that finally for the first time during the 'wash and rinse' cycle drains the water away, leaving residues of dust in the clothes.

I contacted the dealer once more, insisted that it is a defect that has been there since the first wash but they want to repair for a fee. I find this unfair because the machine has never been up to expectations and in spite of being in my possession for four years, I must have used it a dozen times only and not at all for two years at a stretch during that period because of being away from home. I guess it could be a defective machine that has been sold to our Mauritian distributor with or without their knowledge.

LG WT5001C top loading washing machine - I am ready to take my washing machine back to Home Depot and dump it in the parking lot. It all started with a vibration issue. I immediately Googled and discovered that this item had been recalled like a year ago and no one contacted me. The LG tech came out and did a software "upgrade" and assured me the unit would be fine. It wasn't. Although the vibration issue was now seemingly fixed, there were other issues: the clothes weren't spinning dry enough, the unit would become unbalanced and stop, at the end of the cycle the unit would blink with something that looks like half of VE? It looks like a light is burned out or something. Only half if it lights up?

Are you kidding me? I would have to switch over to "spin only" to get the water out of the clothes. The softener would not dispense (2x now) and the timing seemed to be all out of sync - I synchronized my cell phone timer with the washing machine and the machine added time and seemed to repeat the rinse cycle over and over. In addition the powdered soap dispenser fills up with water so after every load it is full of water and I have to manually dump it. Apparently there is a part back ordered to fix this. So an Extended Protection Plan tech came out next and said the first tech basically did not do it right. He assured me the issue was now fixed. It was not. I am now waiting for a third tech visit as I am typing here. They said they would be here between 8 a.m. and noon and it is now past noon and I don't see anyone.

My mother has Alzheimer's and the other night her sheets were soaking wet from the spin cycle not working properly and she wanted to go to bed. LG you should be ashamed of yourselves for not fixing this problem properly and for not contacting me immediately after the recall. I am tired of the "Extended Protection Plan" people calling me and telling me that "I am sorry but we cannot officially designate your washing machine a LEMON until the same issue is reported 3x times". Are you kidding me? I will NEVER buy LG again. Do I smell class action suit? For close to a $1,000.00 that I paid for this I (we) deserve better. My LG machine is 2 years old today. It is just as noted in other reviews; not enough water in most cycles, not energy efficient (1:09 hr. cycle will take up to 1:55 hr.), water levels will sometimes leave clothes dry and still dirty. Machine has been recalled and "fixed" by service representative (which took three trips), constantly going UE and adding water, etc. There is no way to shorten a cycle except "rinse and spin" or "spin only". I found the only thing that works reasonably well for cleaning is the Bulky/Bedding cycle. This seems to load the water based on level rather than the weight method. But it always fills it full, so I make sure the loads warrant the extra water used. I am considering "biting the bullet" on a different washing machine when the extended warranty expires in about ten months. I will NEVER purchase another LG product. The repairman they sent was not there to fix it (I thought it would be fixed) but just to order the parts it needed to be repaired. Okay, so he said the part would be here in a week and he will be back on Monday, another whole week. I live with my 3 grandchildren and we have a lot of laundry to do so those 2 weeks were awful with no machine and kids that needed clean clothes for school. The laundromats are not an option for they are very costly.

Okay, so the following Monday, a different repairman shows up and spends 2 hours changing parts and when he's done, he says it's still not working, must be the control panel and says he will order it and be back in a week to fix it. Now we are up to 3 weeks without the washing machine. Now I have literally piles of laundry that would cost at least $75.00 to do at a laundromat. So now we wait and Monday comes and goes and no repairman. So I call LG and they say the part is back ordered and could take up to 3 weeks to get. WHAT! So I asked for a refund so I can get a new machine and they say we have to make every effort to fix it.

So after a few more pleading calls for a refund, they agreed. They said to send in the receipt to start the process. We did that and waited like 4 days and called again and they said they did not get the fax with the receipt so we sent it again and guess what! They said they still did not get it so sent it again. This time they got it. Now we are still waiting to hear. I do not know how much longer this process will take. If you are thinking about buying products from LG, I would think again!

Had to shut off water supply, costing more than this washer is worth. Could have bought cheap washer for the cost of repairs and been ahead. It was on a concrete floor, leveled and it banged around there too. I bought the machine because my old one was not spinning!! Now I have one that is supposed to be better and work right. And all it has given me is a headache! I would not recommend anyone buying this washing machine! We have a LG4801CW top loader washing machine that has had a slow leak we just discovered, as there was never water visible on the side or front of washer to indicate leaking. However, overtime water has been leaking out of the back of the tub as far as a plumber can tell going behind the washer and under our trim and tiles/sub floor. After a year and a half of having the washer we noticed two of our tiles had cracked by the washer. When my husband pulled up the tiles, we found mold and water in the sub floor around the washer and more cracked tiles hiding behind the washer. We have contacted LG and they wanted to charge us to come fix THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT that was 1.5 years old because it was no longer under warranty. Pretty sad when they don't stand by a product that is 1.5 years old.

They were supposedly reviewing our case and would get back to us in 3-5 days, yet have not and we have called them several times and it has been a lot longer than 5 business days. I feel like we are getting the runaround and I'm sick of having a torn up house. Because of the damage to our flooring and since we have an open floor plan this has resulted in ~10,000k in flooring we have to tear up because we can't just replace one section. They no longer make our tile and we are out of extras. The plumber that came out said don't buy LG products as the design is too new and are very frequently faulty.

I have been reading many of the disturbing complaints in this forum regarding the LG washer recall and can only add to the frustration expressed here. My parents purchased one of the models that has been recalled (WT5101HV Serial No. 007KWYP02018), about 18 months ago. The machine was acting up, and they just got the letter about 2 months ago. We called LG and scheduled to have a technician come out, and they did the software patch download. This was a joke! It did not fix the problem, instead it only perpetuated it. Now, instead of the wash load spinning rapidly out of balance.... it spins much more slowly "and still out of balance!" In addition, the wash and rinse cycles still do not work properly. The machine starts the normal wash cycle, and never drains any of the soapy water! Instead, it keeps adding more and more water (just like before). It only drains all of the dirty soapy water (very slowly) at the end of the "Full" wash/rinse/and softener cycle. And it never properly spins the wet clothes to remove excess dirty water. This process takes 3 times as long as before, and the clothes never come out totally clean. A simple load can take all day to complete! They are ready to Dump the unit in the ocean!

Does anyone know if there is any kind of class action or formal legal group that is trying to get LG to make customers whole?

Best Buy honored our extended warranty and replaced our LG washer after it failed to function after the recall software fix caused the machine to continuously give the "uE", unbalanced error code. LG is trying to turn this issue into a warranty issue, rather than accepting responsibility for their failed software fix. Additionally, we were bombarded with extended warranty offers from LG between the time of the recall in December 2012 and the time we finally received our recall notice in early September 2013. We don't think this was a coincidence.

Kudos to Barbara, Dave and Andrea at Mansfield, OH Best Buy. Best Buy refunded our original purchase price, pro-rated a refund of our unused extended warranty and gave us a discount on any new washer of our choice. We replaced the machine with a Samsung front loader since we know how to avoid the odor problems caused by using too much detergent and fabric softener in front loaders. My wife was adamant that we not purchase another LG product.

I have been quite unhappy with my lovely new LG washing machine, because everything it washes comes out smelling bad. I found (online) many stories from people with front-loading HE washers who had nasty-smelling laundry. I called LG last month and the customer service people gave me a series of chores to do and said if I performed them weekly, the smell would disappear. Well, I performed them five times weekly and the laundry still smelled like week-old workout clothes stuffed in a gym locker. So yesterday, they finally sent a real, live repairman.

The repair guy took one look and said it was clean and nothing was wrong that he could fix except by telling me to use a powdered laundry detergent called "Charlie's Soap". He insisted that all the usual detergents are made with animal fats or byproducts or something, but Charlie's Soap is made with coconut oils or something vegetable-based, and that it is the animal fats that build up in the clothes in these HE washers and make the clothes smell like a week-old gym bag. He said it would take 2 or 3 washings with Charlie's Soap to eliminate all the smell in the clothes. I thought he was nuts, but I tried it. It actually worked. Now I want to know why LG doesn't tell anyone what the problem is! I was aggravated & upset with stinking laundry for six months! Do they have a financial connection to laundry detergent sales but not to Charlie's Soap?

They made a small problem worse with the software upgrade. What is even more frustrating is that LG knows there is a problem, claims it will be repaired under warranty, sends a technician without a warranty repair number so he is forced to ask me to pay for the repair on the spot! I refused, asked the tech to leave and called yet another number I was given by LG to get my machine fixed. Why not have one customer service number? Why make me wait at home taking time off work for 4 hours and LIE to me that the repairs would be covered under warranty? Basically, I have a machine that looks like new but will take over 2 hours to complete a load (if at all). My old Amana cost $300 and lasted 12 years. I immediately called LG to schedule such repair and after the first visit, the machine has lost its track of time as well as the continuation of the UE error activity. Now a 35-minute speed wash can last all day if you do not babysit the machine and catch it before it starts ANOTHER rinse on the spin cycle. To top the matter off, the repair company sent by LG, Infinity Solutions, out of Irving Texas cannot keep a scheduled appointment! I have now missed 2 days of work by staying home to meet someone who does not show up. The excuses are unending. I will probably have to do the same thing as a previous dissatisfied customer proclaimed. Buy a cheaper washer and store this one until a lawyer can get some results. LG performed the Smart Diagnosis over the phone and said it was unbalanced, which it was slightly. I have used a level and completely balanced the machine. Still, it cannot spin out a handful of socks that are evenly placed, without giving the UE code. (Let alone the sink full of smelly sopping wet jeans waiting to be finished). I have an LG all-in-one washer/dryer at my wife's salon for washing towels - it has broken down twice now in a year. I bought an extended commercial warranty for it as the regular LG warranty does not cover usage in a salon. First, both drain pumps broke down - covered by the warranty so we were just inconvenienced by having to go to the local Laundromat for a couple of weeks (don't want to wash the towels at home as you never know what kind of foot fungus the customers might have). Next, one drain pump broke down and the repair guy said the drain hose underneath the machine had cracked and was leaking. My bet is that he broke the hose as it is underneath the machine and there is no way otherwise it could have been broken. The pump replacement was covered but not the hose, so we wound up spending $250 for parts and labor plus the inconvenience of having to use the local Laundromat for another 2 weeks.

Last summer, my LG TROMM steam washer (which has always had the moldy, stinky rubber gasket problem requiring frequent cleaning) started giving the "LE" error signal which according to the book means the motor is overheating. It's 5 yrs old now and out of warranty of course. I unplugged the machine and let it sit for 30 minutes and it started working again. Same problem 2 months later, same fix. Ditto for the next 8 months. This morning again, the LE error symbol and no matter how long I let it sit, no workee.

No more LG products for me! While LG is better than the typical made-in-China junk flooding our stores, it is not that much better to justify the high price.

This checks if water is supplied, if it vibrates excessively or drains. All looked fine until I did a small load of laundry which came out unclean. Then on second try, I noticed tub basin filled up all the way to the top and agitator didn't work properly. I even made comment that it was so quiet...well when agitator is not doing its job, it's super quiet. After trying different cycles and settings and after motor started to smell like it was burning rubber, I called home depot. The sales man gave me a lesson in how much detergent to put in, reasons why clothes aren't getting clean, and told me to unplug it, wait 3 minutes, then try again.

After explaining I'm 30 and know how to do laundry, I explained again about water filling up in wash cycle and agitator not working. He said he would call LG and have a new one out to us IN A WEEK. After already waiting a week and half for first 'new washer', still blows my mind when a sales person does not apologize for the inconvenience or broken machine THEY sold.

I'm under no impression LG will stop making worthless machines for a ton of money, but listen up all the peeps in customer service, KINDNESS GOES A LONG WAY. SAY YOU'RE SORRY. DON'T MAKE EXCUSES OR GET DEFENSIVE. Does the machine not working say something about you? Or is it your ego that needs to blame the customer by default? Some customers are rude but others are just like you trying to do their best to figure out a solution to the small and big obstacles they face. If you can't at least say sorry or be respectful...think about finding another job that fits you better. LG fail and Home Depot fail. Pretty disappointed.

He said that the computer panel had to be replaced, that this had been a problem with many of these washing machines. He came out about 10 days later, and he replaced the computer piece. It worked for a few months, and the same thing started happening. It is now September, and I had to go out and buy a brand new washing machine. The guy that sold us the new machine, told us that these computer chips burn whenever there is a power surge (we had several lightning storms recently). I have had this washing machine 3 years now. We have two kids so we do a load a day. The machine washes satisfactorily. But then again, most washing machines do. What I would like to caution you against are the high cost of spare parts you WILL NEED as well as the complexity of repairing this machine. When I finally bought this machine, I had read a few reviews about how the rubber gasket inside the door started to smell badly after 6 months or so. I was so enticed by the "steam" part of the deal that I overlooked this point. Sure enough this Tromm washer has a huge rubber gasket inside the door. This part is very hard to clean as it has a concealed ledge inside. IT WILL START SMELLING after a few months of use no matter how much you clean the tub with bleach or how many times you clean the gasket. Your clothes will smell rotten after a wash. And when they dry they smell musty.

This part which costs $130 can be changed by an appliance repair service. It is very hard to do it yourself because the machine has to be opened. Total cost for replacing the gasket is $253. Next... the drain pump will break also. Give it a couple of years or so. The drain pump costs $60 to replace and with the service call that comes to another $210 total. I was amazed the work that was needed to change this pump. First of all, the pump is located in the worst possible place, and the Tromm needs to be opened in multiple places to access this pump. The job took 45 minutes to replace the pump.

I am now looking into a Whirlpool clothes washer and after investigating the same parts it seems they are much cheaper and much easier to change if the machine needs to be repaired. I for one will not be buying another LG steam washer.

After sending tons of pictures, many calls, they refused to pay since I no longer had the original machine (go figure??? Their LG repair person said to return it). Often have to rewash clothes, not enough water, loud, major wrinkles, etc. Then a recall for the machine comes and schedule appointment with LG for repair person to handle recall. They come out, update software to the machine??? and then tell me not to wash anything in the machine that sheds water (waterproof? like mattress covers, etc.). Hmmm.

Then he tells me my dryer doesn't dry because there are sensors in the dryer that get coated with dryer sheet film and it confuses the dryer. Oh and the replaced machine ripped another shirt, even though you have to button shirts, pants, and turn inside out!!!! LG washers/dryers don't wash and dry like regular washers and dryers we have all been used to in the past. I purchased the LG washer/dryer combo (model: WM3987HW) from Best Buy in April 2013 for 1 reason only: to save space. It is implied by its name that this model should wash and dry clothes. No one said that this unit does not dry completely. Steven **, the associate who sold this product along with the $129.99 WSC5 warranty to me, did not know that this model does not dry clothes completely. LG advertises this model as a ventless condensing drying system and space saver:

"This combination washer/dryer is perfect if you don't have an external venting source, which conventional dryers require, and it runs on standard voltage electricity. Although it is a space-efficient laundry solution, ideal for locations where a separate washer and dryer wouldn't fit, the full-size tub (3.6 cu ft) means you won't be compromising on washing capacity."

There is only one disclaimer on LG's website that states, "Disclaimer: Dry times will take longer than conventional vented dryer." I thought that this is a good compromise. I get to save space and in return I have to dry my clothes a little bit longer. This, however, does not mean that the clothes will come out pretty damp after hours and hours of drying.

If a product is advertised as washer/dryer unit it has to wash and dry. LG washer/dryer combo (WM3987HW) does not dry. It does not matter if the load size is only 1/4 of its full capacity and no matter for how long you dry your clothes, in comes out very damp. I tried to return this model, but Best Buy said that the plan I purchased does not cover that, and LG refused to admit that this is a problem. I did not see anywhere in the manual that this model does not dry clothes completely. If you have small children, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I wasted 4 afternoons waiting on LG's and Service Infinity Solutions' technicians to "fix" something that can't be fixed. Consumers should be informed about this in advance. I feel I was misled.

Robert the tech was punctural and very receptive to my issues. He was able to punch out my dented front exterior and the rotor and stator was replaced with brand new ones.

So far I have done 4 loads of wash and the machine performs as new! Lesson learned- always request an LG Tech when your seeking service. I don't think Sears, Home Depot , Lowes or HH Gregg should be blamed for any mechanical issues. The only thing these distributors are guilty of is having the latest and greatest appliances for sale. My next washer purchase will not be an "HE" though. I will buy a standard Speed Queen if they are still available when that time comes- for I have read down the road, the government may mandate HE only for residential consumers. Lets hope not!

On 10/18/2010 purchased a LG Washer Top Load costing $799.99. Model # WT5001CW. Washer performed well until after 6/26/13 when we had the software upgrade completed for safety reasons?? Prior to the recall, I remember only 2 occasions when the "Ue" code appeared and the washer gently rebalanced the load. I noticed the recall letter was dated 12/18/12 and I did not receive the notice till 6 months later. I asked LG about this and did not receive an answer as to why it took 6months for me to be notified of the recall?

After the recall was performed my nightmares began. The stains remained in the clothes after washing. I even switched from the best detergent on the market to no avail. The washer now frequently bangs, violent loud knocking and banging. As the machine was knocking the exterior front was being sucked inward and is now permanently dented across the middle!! The "Ue" code never appeared again since the upgrade. The machine doesn't attempt to rebalance and bangs until I manually adjust the clothes. I will not use the washer for fear it will break apart. When I called LG they attempted to run Smart Diagnosis but the call got disconnected! Spoke with a Supervisor and supposedly a tech will be coming out this week.

Based on what I've read though, I am not very hopeful. I need a washer and don't have weeks to wait. I will sign a class action suit if one comes out and if this is not corrected this week - we will be buying American - A Speed Queen- made of metal, not plastics, with no computer, not HE to twist and rip our clothes. No load sensor and I will control the water level! Will use 100% hot water if I choose so - and all for $100 less than the LG! Oh and Speed Queen guarantees PARTS and LABOR for 3 years, not 1 year!!

Do NOT buy any NEW Washing machine with a "Load Sensor"! It senses the weight of the load and determines what amount of water to add to wash the clothes. Since the Government has to be involved with every aspect of our lives to save energy & conserve water, this device is crap! There is never enough water to wash the clothes and the clothes do NOT come clean. This mandate has sent us back to the early 1900's way of doing laundry with an old wash tub, scrub board & old soap that actually cleans the clothes!!! I can't afford to buy new clothes every month & refuse to wear dirty clothes!

Only way around it.... Luckily I have a wash sink next to my washer. As I put clothes into the tub, I run the faucet hose over to the washer & wet the clothes as I put them in the washer. This creates a heavy load & as the sensor weighs the load, it is heavier and adds the right amount of water to wash the clothes!!! I have a glass lid so I can stand there & watch the water level. Unbelievable that the Government tells the Manufacturers how to build a washer with devices we don't need or want!!!

Doing laundry for over 45 years, I am bright enough to know a small, medium or large load and able to determine my own water level for the appropriate washing cycle. If you don't have a wash sink, you will have to wash your clothes TWICE! So much for saving water. What morons we have running the United States of America!!

That process can be repeated as many times as necessary unless I intervene and redistribute the clothes myself. One day I left it alone to see what would happen and it washed for 2 hours! Energy Efficient?? No way - it uses too much water and takes too long even on the supposedly shortest cycles. I'm going to donate it and get a brand I have had before and that has an agitator. The dryer works fine.

We purchase this Kenmore Elite 29002 top loading washing machine in 2012. After about 4 loads of normal, not grimy laundry, it began smelling very musty. (*We are very eat clean folks...no children in the house, etc). Called Sears, they sent out repair person twice; they looked at the drain mechanism, messed with the computerized controls and made all cycles longer; suggested we clean the washer every week with purchased $$ tablets.. So now the machine that was to save money by saving water (High efficiency)... Would now cost out to $ $15/month for cleaning tablets!! They should take it back and replace it with a better model!

Both my son and I bought LG washers. Bearings out on mine and cost to repair was equal to buying new washer. He had the extended warranty. Called the help line. Someone just kept repeating with a foreign accent, "Only the drum (stainless will be around forever) and the motor are covered." My model had mold and mildew problems from the beginning. Now we both have nice dryers and will have mismatched washers. Beware! Bearings are not covered and you will have a flood, no washer, mismatched appliances, ruined flooring. Of course our State is not in the class action against LG. Guess where we would like to stick the stainless drum!

In the middle of a wash cycle, the control panel light went out. We tested the electrical receptacle and power is okay. I would have thought my machine wouldn't have problems, certainly not after only after 5 months. The repairman came after we called a day and a half ago. He is the local service representative listed. He said he would order a new control panel and it will be here next week as this is Friday. We bought this unit at our Home Depot in East Syracuse, New York.

I have had nothing but problems since purchasing this washer from Home Depot. First it was emptying the little filter all the way down on the left side of the front of the washer. If all the water was not out it took hours for it to empty, even the smallest amount of water. Now, yesterday and today the washer cannot seem to even wring out a couple towels. I had to remove a small scatter rug yesterday soaking wet and place it rolled up in a towel in the dryer until the washer decided to finish the load of laundry, then putting the rug back in the washer to be wrung out before returning it to the dryer. Today I put a couple bath towels, not thick ones, ones I use around the house, and a small scatter rug about 2x3 ft, and now the door to the washer will not open, at all.

I waited over an hour, tried to open the door again, the washer will start and water will run, which I immediately stopped, when the water begins you can hear the click for the door, but when the washer is stopped, the click for the door does not happen - so I cannot open the door. This is a horrible product, and I am so very sorry I did not get my Maytag washer that I have had in the past - with no problems until the day I replace it. On that day, the person delivering my new washer asked if he could have my other one for his home as it was still working. I only wanted a new washer and made the horrible mistake of purchasing and LG PIECE OF JUNK - NEVER AGAIN AND I WILL WARN EVERYONE NOT TO DO SO INCLUDING MY 5 DAUGHTERS.

I have had the service man come twice to repair my LG HT5101HV washer and the first time was for the software upgrade required by the recall. I thought it went well until I started to wash my comforter and found out it would not stay balanced no matter what I did to alleviate the problem. It took me over 2 hours to finish that load after manipulating it until I got it to finish. Wasting water galore on trying to rebalance it until it would spin dry. Also I didn't realize it but LG purposely slowed down the rpms on the washer that was rated at 1100RPM to max at 700 rpms. which to me is not high efficiently.

So I continued to use the model and started to read reports of what the new software did to the washer. In my honest opinion these washers should all be recalled and replaced. They are not high efficiency anymore. They use water excessively and don't even wring out the clothes as dry as they were advertised which is one of the reasons I bought this model. Yes I liked the machine BEFORE the software upgrade and didn't have any problems with it but for safety reasons I called LG to fix it but wished I never had. The washer was fine except for the plastic support constructions and if you just load the washer correctly you would never have had a problem with it on that issue.

Now I have to deal with LG on the fact that they said they cannot fix it and am waiting a call from their rep on the next step in this process after nearly a week of waiting for that call. Needless to say I am NOT a happy camper right now and want this corrected immediately and oh yes, I do not want another LG product after this episode. I just hope they will refund me my purchase price and I can go buy another brand and now I not sure what to buy anymore. I know that I had trouble with other brands before this one. Any suggestions? And raise cain if you arehaving the same problems with the new software upgrade. All I get now is a uE when it spins and it was even doing that when I was trying to clean the basket. That is not even reasonable...... DON'T SETTLE for less than what you originally pay for and let LG know you are not happy with the upgrade on the recall.

Ever since we purchased the machine (a birthday present that was supposed to make life easier) we have suffered from clothes that stink, even right out of the washer. We tried changing detergents. No good. We purchased cleaning solvents from the store and ran cleaning cycles, good for one wash. Then the stink is back. The company says to leave the door open and wipe the inside rubber gasket dry after each use. Leaving the door open is not really an option and it blocks the hallway. I read that there are multiple complaints concerning the rubber gasket and stink from LG, and their overall response is the same as what they told me. I am more than willing to group together and go after the company for these machines. What a hunk of junk.

I purchased the above appliance from Sears about 4-5 years ago (need to find the receipt to be accurate) and it has been a nightmare. I have used many boxes of the cleaning product made by Tide to deodorize and contacted a serviceman (at my additional expense) who instructed me to use bleach (only to discover the bleach dispenser is not dependable), remove the entire dispensing tray after each day of laundry, dry the door seal and inside of machine, and leave the door ajar when not in use...... I continue to have a problem with a sickening smell emanating from my "clean" laundry. I am quite convinced that this washing machine does not clean my laundry...... Whites are grey to beige! Very often, I find "wads" of soap in towels which I believe is due to an inadequate amount of water. An answer to this aggravating and unhealthy problem would be wonderful. Thank you.

We bought a one year old LG Trom stainless steel washer from a co-worker of my spouse when we moved into our new house. I was not crazy about a front loader but loved the price and the fact he would deliver it. To its credit, it spent the next 2 1/2 years washing up here, including the cast offs of 4-5 bassets hounds, which we foster for the rescue. We got an error code OE on a regular basis and cleaned out the two filters and it came back on. It made our clothes and laundry room smell and always leaked a small amount out on the floor. Finally, it would not clear the OE code although I could run it through the cycles manually.

When I checked on getting it repaired, the eye opening started. The first appliance store I called stated that something should be done about these being imported into the country. He virtually recoiled when I told him what I had. And only person in my area (southern Houston, not exactly the boonies) worked on these and could get parts. Okay, I called him. $75.00 service call when we can get to you, and it can't be applied towards the repair. Then I researched online and found out that it would most likely cost 200-400 dollars to fix it with even small things wrong.

Okay....maybe I just will buy something else, like the top loading white Kenmore I have spent the last 50 years washing in. I checked around with two used dealers and again, they didn't fix LGs, would not carry them, and didn't want one. The used Kenmore is downstairs merrily washing away in 30 minutes time when the LG took an hour for most anything. Also, I could soak or dye anything in it. It left here with the junk dealer...Good Riddance!

This LG True Steam front loading washer I purchased at Home Depot has put rips in the legs of 3 pairs of jeans. I have inspected the inside and cannot find any sharp spots that would rip a pair of jeans. I did find that there is a plastic yellow fitting in the front top of the rubber bladder that has a slot in it. The plastic fitting in the bladder looks like it is being pulled away from it seating in the bladder, and possibly could be catching the jeans and creating a series of rips.

I have the same problem with my washer that was purchased from Home Depot November 2011. We really need to urge LG to fix or replace these faulty machines instead of doing the measly "recall" fix which does not seem to fix the problem. I just signed the petition "LG Electronics: Replace or completely fix a recalled washer" on Change.org. It's important that we pass the word and get as many people to sign as we can to get LG involved. Will you sign it too? Thanks!

My washing machine worked perfectly fine until LG decided to do their famous "recall" fix.... in which they insisted that we have done or our warranty would be null and void. What they should have said is, “We know you bought this top of the line washing machine, and it works fine but throw it in the trash bc when we send someone out to do this mandatory update, it will NOT work at all!!!!!" Sign me up for any class action suit against them.... I have a family of 7 and a washing machine that is not functioning is not an option!!!!

Initially, I had a pretty old top loader washing machine 16 years old (NOT LG) and it worked perfectly - actually loved it and all of my clothes came out clean and perfect! My husband thought he'd surprise me with a VERY EXPENSIVE, brand new $2,500 LG front loader washing machine and dryer from Best Buy. I didn't even want it because our older set was fantastic! In any case, here's where all of the problems started. I should sue LG just for all the fights and yelling I did to my husband (ha ha) for this piece of CRA-!!! Now all of the problems.

Immediately, everything smelled like mold, especially the towels (even though, we did the bleach wash as suggested and left the doors opened), SO MANY RUINED CLOTHES (almost every day our clothes got holes and rips) - I threw away about 5 pieces of clothing a week & it actually became a joke of everyday showing and telling my husband about another item I have to throw out because of the stupid washing machine. Also, even though, I don't use bleach when I wash, the lame bleach cleaning cycles later ended up leaving horrible bleach marks on our clothes.

We owned the LG washing machine and dryer for about 1 year and I left it when we moved to our new home, my headaches are now over. Now I have a very old top loader washing machine (NOT LG) and my clothes get clean, no more holes, stains or moldy smells - I love it! Also, no more yelling at my husband :o))) Side note: We also had a LG flat screen TV that we purchased from Costco - it completely died after a few years. What have I learned: NEVER BUY LG PRODUCTS - PIECES OF JUNK!

I purchased a washer in January 2013. It started giving a UE signal and delaying the cycles. No matter the size of the load, it kept doing this. It was serviced on April 9th, 2013. It worked fine for several weeks. By June it started the same problem described above. I attempted to make a service appointment online and it keeps saying there is no service for my area!!! I chatted online with an agent and this person (Gus). He asked me for all the information and also stated there was no service for my area and that he would talk to a supervisor to call me. This has not happened (7/18/13).

On Monday 7/22, I called LG and the person (Richard) told me that all I had to do was to rearrange the clothes I was washing. I told him that was not a solution and I wanted it to be replaced or money refunded. There was a lot of discussion and then he told me that a repair person (who I need to call instead of them) would charge me for the service, which I refuse to do since this is a new appliance. I went to the store I bought the washer from (HHGregg) and the store manager called LG and there was no solution to the problem. I am not willing to keep this washer giving me such hard times!!
