Worked great first few months until I tried the Turbowash. Now the normal and heavy duty cycles are stuck on TW & the permanent press cycle is defaulted to TW so you have to manually turn it off every time. The TW is an option that I had to add the first time I used it. I did not like it as the clothes felt & smelled like the detergent was not rinsed out completely. I use an approved HE liquid and only 1/2 of the amount the dispenser calls for. I was told by the service repair person that they could not fix it as LG Customer Service says that it is supposed to function that way. I spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with customer service myself and was finally told that once you use the TW for the first time it is DESIGNED to stay on and you cannot turn it off, and that they would not repair or replace it, or return your money.
The owners manual states that TW is an option that you can add when you want and nowhere does it state that it will stay on. Even LG's own FAQ website states "The Turbowash feature is designed to deactivate at the end of each cycle, and not to be used during the next, unless specifically selected. If this option does not deactivate, then this washer may require service." Now instead of pressing 2 buttons to start a normal load (on & start) I also have to choose a different cycle, adjust the water temperature, the spin speed and the soil level before starting a load.

We purchased a $1,000 LG washing machine in October 2011. We had always bought Kenmore, but the salesperson said that LG was a great company with good products. So we made the purchase. When the machine was delivered I had noticed on the interior rim that the paint (porcelain?) finish was not smooth in a couple of places about the size of a quarter - this would be directly under the spray head and another area a few inches from the spray head. The delivery person didn't seem to think this was an issue. About 2 years later I noticed that the area directly under the spray head was turning brown, but I didn't think twice about it because at the time I didn't realize this round piece of plastic was a spray head. Well today when I was wiping down the interior of the machine 2 places the size of a pencil eraser came off exposing the metal of the machine.
So I called LG to find out what could be done. The first person asked me to upload them and photo, which I did. She told me this was rust and LG would not do anything as this is considered cosmetic. I'm like "REALLY", this machine is less than 4 years old and rusting. Yup that was the answer. Not good enough for me. So I had purchased an extended warranty - warranty only covered moving parts but they gave me some advice. They told me, in their opinion, this was poor workmanship/defective product and LG should be responsible.
So I called LG back and this time I spoke to a head supervisor, of course this was after I had to go through the whole issue with another service rep, just like it was my first call. This woman was so rude, kept cutting me off when I was talking and could not have cared less so I asked that I speak to her supervisor. I asked 3 times to talk to her supervisor and she told me that they do not handle this type of issue and NO I could not talk to them. She repeatedly kept cutting me off saying she would give me phone numbers for some companies to come and make the repair. I am ready for a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT but not sure how to get in touch with those of you that indicated you want to do the same.

LG Top Loader WT1001CW. DO NOT - DO NOT- DO NOT- BUY this washing machine. I agree totally with all the other reviews. It does not fill with water enough to even cover the clothes. There is virtually no agitation to get the clothes clean. Clothes usually remain in the same position in tub during the entire wash process and dry spots remain on clothes.. they didn't even get wet. I have had to rewash loads again just to try to get them clean but still they don't come out clean at all. Spin cycle is crazy and clothes just lay on top. This is the WORST machine ever made. I don't know how they get a good rating. Someone stacked the deck to trick consumers into buying this machine. I have had this machine for about 6 months and wish I could return it. Do not buy LG washers.

Purchased top of line LG washer/dryer ($2,256.79) from Warners' Stellian (WS) with 5 year warranty- expiring 2016. Model #WT5101HV. Between WS, LG, and NSI extended warranty company, they've been unable to repair or replace our wash machine. We've been going to the laundromat for one month. We are beyond livid! Each entity blames the other, no one will take responsibility. I would not recommend WS, NSI, or LG to anyone. Beware! We just want a working wash machine!

We purchased an LG washer in July of 2014. I have not liked it from the start - tub is too deep, fills with very little water to wash clothes, feel clothes are not clean. The washer broke on July 30 and repairman from Sears, where we purchased washer and dryer, came the next day. He advised us that valve was broken so water was running in constantly. He told us he would have to order it from South Korea (what?). Not acceptable but he could not order it in U.S. I called Sears Parts and was told they had the part and would send to us. The part arrived on August 3, and the next day two more valves arrived from Texas. I called tech dept but was told our tech had set August 10 for repair and they could not change that!! How screwed up is this? Never purchase LG again nor will I purchase appliances from Sears. Totally disgusted. Tqq.

We bought a new LG Washing Machine from Lowe's in March 2015. We have already had problems with the machine. Now we are getting the message E6 which means we have a clutch problem. We have had to wait a week for the service call. Very disappointed with Lowe's and LG.
Updated on 08/14/2015: It seems as if we are nothing to Lowe's or LG. The repairman showed up Tuesday and now has to order parts. These parts are a clutch and PC board. Lowe's and LG has no idea when the repair company will receive the parts. We have now been without a washing machine for over 2 weeks. I will not buy another LG product nor do business at Lowe's unless it is an emergency. Thank God we do have a 5 year warranty on the washer and dryer.

Also was told I had to pay out of pocket for the tech to come out but with the situation of clothes and water locked inside it I have no other option but the number I was given. I purchased a Top Load LG HE washer in Nov 2013. It replaced a 27 year old Kenmore that I never put a dime into repairing. I cried the day that washer died. It has been two years of hell with this machine. UE are the letters now that make me want to throw a two year old tantrum. I have literally seen these two letters on the front panel of this washer more times than I can count. I am now keeping a log of every load and how many times the UE appears before I can actually get a load done. It is usually a minimum of 2. Every part that can possibly be replaced has been done.
I have one final repair man coming in a week. He just needs to say that at this point the washer is unrepairable and I will get a replacement. It doesn't matter what type of load I do, sheets, towels, jeans, every one will be UE. If I could take a sledgehammer to it I would. My question now is who is making a decent washing machine that doesn't cost a fortune? I think we need to go back to the old style of set your wash level, temp and what type if load. I want to tell my machine what to do and not the other way around.
I'm so tired of taking all day to do one load of wash. My old machine would take 25 minutes top. A cotton normal cycle with fabric softener takes 1 hour and 11 minutes in this machine, really??? LG, go back to the drawing board and give your customers a machine that we can say good thing about and not turn grown women into raging lunatics who just want to throw a tantrum every time they do a load of laundry!

We bought LG top load washer and front dryer as a pair; WT5170HV, 5-2012. The only problems we've had was the washer electronic control board shorted out & now we've noticed rust forming underneath the top rim of the washer. There is a notice about not splashing bleach when adding to the dispenser. We are careful, but apparently it splashes up on the bottom of the lid and around the dispenser when the machine is operating. This is a design flaw and needs to be corrected by LG. This will be the last time I buy LG products unless they show me that they will stand behind their products and fix the design flaws... So be careful when buying appliances and read consumer reports.

In October 2014 water flow from under the washing machine and the dryer didn't dry. The dryer had alarm that filter is not clean, or it has finished the drying cycle after few minutes and laundry was still wet. They have changed the filter with another model. They have cleaned the system. I was told also that the motherboard was replaced with a new one And the machine was tested But it is not written on report that the motherboard was changed.
Now, after 10 months the same troubles appeared. The washing machine they have changed the back tub, shock absorbers, sensor of vibration, POB. They also told me they have replaced the motherboard, but that is not written on the report, and they have tested the machine. So now after 10 months it seem that same mistakes are appeared. Sadly, that is my experience.

Well my washer (LG wt5001cw) started making a grinding and whining noise after owning if for 2 and half years and come to find out my repairman tells me it can't be fixed and it's time for a new one. Really it is not fixable? So if your washer has these issues and it's this model number good luck. I also have emailed LG a letter and let them know I won't be spending anymore of my hard earned money on their products. At least they don't make any life saving devices I hope. Please do not buy their products. My repairman said that this is common with their products and they are only made to last about 3 years. He sees it everyday.

We are without a washing machine and LG does not stand behind their products. From all the reviews, it appears we do have enough people to level a class action suit against LG. Are you in? We purchased a LG front-loading washing machine in November 2014 from Home Depot. When the machine was delivered, there was rust inside the drum. We called Home Depot and complained and two weeks later (a month and a half after purchase) we finally received a new washer.
Around the end of June 2015, (6 months) I noticed a loud notice when the clothes were washing, it sounded like the drum was rubbing. I mentioned it to my husband who told me it was nothing. In July the noise was getting louder so I called LG for service. The customer service was atrocious! They told me that the technician was only available on 1 day and that if I was not available, then I would have to call back because they did not have a schedule for the technician the following week. I asked the representative to call me back when they had a schedule and he agreed, but I never got a call back.
I called the following week and again I was told they only had a schedule for Tuesday. I asked for a supervisor, Cherry, who advised me to keep Wednesday, Thursday and Friday open for the technician and that she would call me. I asked her to have a member of management call me and she said they would call me back in 48 to 72 business hours. After 96 business hours, no one called me back, so I called again. A supervisor, Vincent, said he would get a technician out there on Monday. The technician arrived on Monday, and stated it was stator assembly and rotor assembly but stated hopefully it is not the drum, and that he would order the parts and be back on Tuesday to replace them.
When he showed up on Tuesday to replace the parts, he said, "oh no - the drum shaft is bent and that we would need a whole new rebuild of the machine." He then told my husband to call Customer Service because he could not order the parts (he was able to order them the day before) - that we needed to order them through Customer Service. While my husband was on the phone with Customer Service, the technician Nick just left. My husband then spent the whole day on Wednesday trying to get answers. Mid-day he was able to contact Sherry in the Executive Offices who told him she would research the issue and contact him by the end of the day about replacing the unit. She did contact him back and asked him to get the invoice because she did not have the information - however LG had the purchase date, model number and place of purchase.
I then tried to contact Sherry the following day. Sherry indicated to me that she spoke to LG Management and that they refused to replace the machine but would order the parts for rebuild. When I asked Sherry when the parts would be in, and when we could expect the repairs to be done, she stated, "The technician will give you a call when the parts arrive to schedule service." I then explained to her this was not acceptable to have a time frame and that I also wanted to keep the parts that are replaced for evidence. She told me she did not think I could do that, that decision would be up to the technician. I explained again that I was keeping the parts for evidence.
My husband then called back and asked to speak with Sherry's manager. Amber, who answered the phone, said that she was Sherry's manager and there was no one above her to speak to. She stated that LG will not replace the machine, and that someone would call us when the parts arrive. We are without a washing machine, and LG does not stand by their products. NEVER, EVER, BUY LG. You will have dirty clothes and you will have $1000 less in your pocket! 10-year warranty - BS!

In 2013 we purchased the set of LG washer/dryer from a well-known appliance outlet chain. Earlier this year (2015) we noticed the washing machine started leaking. In fact, water was leaking out from the bottom of the machine and collecting in the drain pan. We immediately contacted the store we purchased it from who informed us that our warranty had expired, and they would have to charge us x-amount of dollars to troubleshoot. Instead we did some extensive research on the LG machines, only to find tons of video complaints from other angry and frustrated consumers. The leakage seems to be consistent with many other complaints. The detergent dispenser tray slot has mildew build up behind the tray itself. The bleach dispenser tray is rusting... what the heck.
We finally pulled the back of the cover off to notice the water was pouring out the back of the machine during the rinse cycle. Basically $700.00 put the window... and this is the top loader extra capacity washer without the middle agitation piece. Newsflash, another service tech shared that your clothes aren't even getting as clean as they should without the agitator piece in the machine which helps move the clothes around. Technology... you have to wonder. LG knows these issues exist and still push out these poor performing products. Sad. I am definitely in on a class action suit... let's band together and get it started. Conyers, Ga angry and disappointed.

It often takes an entire day to do one load of laundry because this LG top load washer WT4870CW cannot balance itself and vibrates severely and smacks into the wall. Often, when I try to rebalance a load, the load seems to be already balanced, but the machine does not think it is balanced. This HE machine is supposed to save water, but the water constantly runs as the machine tries to balance at the spin at the end of the wash and during the rinse cycle. I have tried to contact LG several times through their online portal and they ignore my requests for service, or send me a video about how to balance the machine (the machine is level). Now going through the calling them phase of trying to get this resolved. I hate this machine and wish I had never bought it. Clothes do not clean even after sloshing in the water for an hour. I have the original receipt, and would love to replace it. They came out and said that there was nothing they could do, that it was normal and we called them just before the warranty ran out, and once again right after and never got it fixed. We finally discovered that there was a hose at the bottom of the unit, and learned we were supposed to drain it from time to time. Actually, I have to drain it EVERY TIME! Every time I empty the water from the hose (about 4 cups of water), it stinks like sulfur or eggs. If I don't drain it, that water just goes onto my next load of laundry that I'm washing. My wife and I purchased a new LG WT5070CW washing machine in January of 2013. This is a top loading machine. We started to experience mold/mildew smells from the machine shortly after we purchased it. We use high-efficiency soap, use very limited amounts of soap, dry out the entire machine (including the top lip of the washing tub) after every use, remove and empty the soap detergent/softener dish after every use, plus dry it out. We have used commercial after-market mold/mildew solutions to treat the machine. We have also used bleach rinses and vinegar rinses. We purchased a carbon filter bag that we place in the machine when not in use. Nothing seems to help and the smell is getting worse. So much so, that we are considering purchasing a new machine.
We contacted LG about our problem and got a canned email response... do this and do that... all of which we had explained to LG earlier that we had already done. By canned, we mean it appears to us as if this response was meant for their front loading machines, as it mentioned making sure to wipe dry the gasket on the door of the machine. Our top loading machine does not have a gasket on the lid. We responded to LG's suggested fixes and asked to talk to a supervisor about this problem. So far, nothing from LG.
The LG washing machine and dryer combination were not cheap. LG's customer service department along with their engineering department leave a lot to be desired. We ditched our LG phones earlier this year for Samsung and will probably do the same with the washing machine... although I am not sure what we will replace it with. LG products are problematic and I suspect will not have a lot of repeat buyers.

This machine is the biggest piece of garbage I've ever been duped into purchasing. Usually, Consumer Reports is my guide when purchasing larger priced items, but they were way off the mark on this item. I bought the LG WT4870CW washing machine, with the matching dryer. The Home Depot crew set them up, made sure they were level, and all attachments properly secured. I have NEVER had as many problems as I've had with this machine! Each load takes approximately TWO HOURS to complete! I have to babysit the machine and continuously redistribute the clothing because the "Uneven Load" continues to flash and my washer will stop. Some days, if I'm really busy and forget to BABYSIT the machine, it may take all day to do a load of laundry!
If it weren't for the fact that the machine is less than two years old, I would take it out to the backyard and gleefully blast it with continuous buckshot. I cannot sell this machine to anyone else in good conscience. Tomorrow, I'm having a repairman come out (from a non-chain appliance company) to see if they can figure out why this "energy saving machine" is taking over 120 minutes to do a standard load of laundry. WHEN I WAS A KID, MY MOTHER OWNED A KENMORE WRINGER WASHER AND IT DIDN'T TAKE AS LONG TO DO A LOAD OF CLOTHES IN A 1950S WRINGER WASHING MACHINE! I am beyond done with this POS. It's unfortunate that ConsumerAffairs does not have a fragmented star rating. This Devil's Spawn doesn't even deserve one star!
Updated on 7/22/2015: Yesterday, I had a service man come out to look at my machine. The news wasn't good. Due to poor design, cheap components, and computer directed, this machine isn't worth repairing. The cost to replace a significant part (18 months old) is half the cost of the machine. In addition, the part necessary, is on back order with an indefinite lead time, due to the multitude of orders for replacement parts! CAN ANYONE OUT THERE TELL ME HOW TO INITIATE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST LG? I'm sure, just from reading the reviews on this site (and others), there are enough disgruntled and duped consumers to justify such a claim. We may not be able to recover the complete cost of this machine, but I'd be happy to receive a partial award to offset the cost of replacing the currently owned LG machine

It is so big, it will wash my king size duvet cover. Now, not only is the washer constantly off balance, it will actually fill the washer almost to the top to wash clothes. Today, it spent four hours washing my sheets. As it is off balance, I constantly have to check it and at this point, restart it, to spin only in order for it to finish the wash. Even better, I can find only one repair company who will come out and they want $250 to look at it. So much for customer service. I thought it was bad to replace my last washer after 7 years. It will go back to filling rather than rinsing. PURE JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BIG MISTAKE! I WASTED A LOT OF money, time, have been so aggravated and frustrated. BIG RIPOFF!!!!!!!!!!! I had dealt with our old washer for years. It would become unbalanced a lot. Clothes would come out with washing detergent, dirt, food and baby poop still on them. We decided to buy a new set and not have to worry anymore. We paid almost $2000.00 for the pair. It's exactly like the old one except we're out $1000.00. The dryer is fine. Love it, but HATE, HATE THE WASHER. Scale of 1-10 it gets a 1.

We had register complaint then 4 to 5 times their different technicians came telling various problem. And at last they found but spare parts are so costly so I will not suggest this w.m. for ordinary people who can't afford this regular maintenance of around 2000. If small part is also damage you have to take whole unit e.g. PCB harness for one part of filter PCB. It is really not affordable. Company should provide those small parts instead of insisting customer to buy whole units.

LG Top Loader WA48J7700A - I purchased this washer last month and hate this machine! Not only does it not fill with enough water to cover the clothes, it doesn't even put enough water in to get all the clothes wet! When I look at the little bit of water that IS in the machine, it is dirty. I wondered, how does the little agitation in this dirty water get the clothes clean?? Oh! It doesn't! Today I am done! I am looking at a white shirt that is dirtier than when it was put in the washer (yes it was a light color load). I have noticed this before, along with dry spots on clothes after being washed! There is also often white streaks (detergent residue?) left on dark clothes.
After reading other reviews that sound JUST LIKE MINE, I realize this is an ongoing problem (perhaps with all these energy efficient top loaders this is an issue?) I had a front loader prior to this machine and it too used little water but more than this does! And, the way a front loader works, the clothes were always moving unlike this machine where they almost stay put! On the phone right now with Home Depot to get this lousy machine out of my life!!! I'm going back to a good old fashioned top loader that fills with water and washes the clothes!!!

The washer won't come on. Why does it seem that all the LG washers have this or a similar problem? If there is a problem with the "motherboard" recall these washers and fix them. This is a factory problem not the customer that bought it. The problem is too similar in every case. You are turning people against your LG products. My model is WM2487HM.

It took almost a month to finally get LG to respond. First call they needed proof of purchase sent to them (strange, since they already knew my model and date of purchase while on the phone!!). They said once received, a manager would review to determine if they would extend the warranty, which would allow for the top to be replaced.
No call back. Called again a week later--same story, but never a call back. Called again a week later, and demanded to get this resolved. After waiting for 40 minutes on hold, it was denied. I said that was not acceptable as this is common complaint about this washer, etc. I demanded to talk to a supervisor.
After about another 20-25 minutes, a supervisor approved the warranty extension, and scheduled a service call to replace the top. A new top is being shipped in time for the service call. Hopefully the replacement top has been redesigned around the bleach cup!!
To those of you who said they denied your claim, do not give up! Demand to talk to a higher up person! I also told them I would be going to Home Depot to complain and every time I was there I would drop a picture of the rusted washer into every LG washer on display!

My machine is almost 4 years old. I am single so I do not do a lot of laundry. I have recently rust stains near the blue bleach area cover. When I was able to remove it from the location. It is then I noticed the area was completely rusted. The edges have no paint left on them. The machine looks horrible. I am very upset to think the quality of this product is inferior to the point that it rusts after almost 4 years of minimal use. This along with overall poor performance since day one (not enough water, going out of balance with large loads. Why do they call this large capacity if you cannot use it???). Last LG product for me!

I have had the LG HE machine for approximately 2 years. When I first got it, I called LG because the machine wasn't getting all of my clothes wet and certainly not clean. They smelled dirty when they came out. The repairman said that the machine was working properly and proceeded to completely fill the tub to prove it to me. I have since found that the only way to get a full tub of water to cover my large loads is to run the washer on "Bulky Bedding" with "Heavy Soil Level". (Nice trick for the "repairman" to use). How much longer will LG (I don't know about other so called HE makers) be allowed to dupe the public into buying these machines? I bought it to save energy and water. I care about our overuse of the earth's resources in fact I am one of those who still hangs clothes outside on my clothes line. As soon as we can save enough money, we will dump this machine.

Boy, do I wish I had read this website 2+ years ago, when I decided to purchase this LG WT5070CW HE "WaveForce" top loader. I too was swayed by the glowing review from Consumer Reports. I've been burned several times for following their recommendations, but that's a different story. This has to be the worst washing machine ever. I agree with everything everyone has already said. The bleach dispenser on my machine is also rusting (identical picture to the ones already posted).
I've had clothes come out with detergent still on them, dry spots where the water never even penetrated, all stains are still on the clothes. I've re-washed, soaked, applied stain removers, etc... If there's any grease/oil component to the stain, you will still have it on your clothes -- even after the "heavy duty" cycle. Try to do a load of sheets (and I'm talking about one set of sheets without the pillow cases) - they just float on the surface and never get pulled down into the tub of water. Come out stale smelling.
I am so over this machine. How does something like this get foisted on the public? There are so many identical complaints. I could have written each one of these posted here. As I am merely reiterating that which has been said, I will stop. I have just purchased a Speed Queen top loader (old fashioned agitator type) that I've never heard any negative reviews about. It's being delivered tomorrow morning. Hallelujah! I am donating this present piece of garbage to whomever wants it.

And also recently I have had problems with the door where the soap/bleach/softener goes.
I am having problems opening the door because of the section that holds the softener is lifting and not allowing the door to open and I needed to call for service. I agree with what everyone has to say about these new washing machines. I bought the LG 1101 washer 2 years ago. Chose this model as consumer reports gave it a raving review. After doing a couple loads I felt that the machine wasn't washing the clothes very well - white streaks on dark clothing, dry spots on clothes, not smelling clean at all so I would watch how much water would go into a load - not much! I pulled out a grey dress shirt after a full wash cycle & could see that it was completely dry in certain areas! I called LG & asked them if they were the right people to call or should I have called Sears (where I purchased it). Of course they said I made the right call as they would send a repairman out & because I had the machine for only 2 weeks. I should have called Sears because then I could have returned the machine!
Anyways repairman said that the machine is doing what it's suppose to do - senses load & puts water accordingly. I showed him a picture of the shirt & he said he understood. He has heard the complaint many times. He said to get around the not enough water issue was to open up washer so it thinks you're adding more clothes so then it will add more water. What a waste of time having this machine is! I have been doing this with every wash load but sometimes I forget because I don't have time to wait for it to start filling. I now put about a bucket full of water (about 10 litres) into the machine after putting the clothes in & then start up the machine. Pretty pathetic that I have to do this to a brand new machine. I absolutely hate my new LG washing machine. Wish I had never purchased it. It's really too bad as I was so excited about getting it as I had never owned a new washing machine before.

I recently bought LG WD1275QDT, found disappointing not unto expectation for the price range. Not recommended (but company suggests) for liquid detergent use if you use pre-wash, Main-wash detergent will leach into pre-wash and left nothing for main wash (Media has better design for dual use). If you open detergent tray risk softener leaching into wash (bad design). Rinse and wash water inlet is same. Expect more soap may leak every time. Also pipe is corrugated may hold detergent. Takes long time to wash. 2-3 hr is most common option (I found time being wasted between cycles, NOTHING is optimized may be company wanted to use all possible rotations of inverter control).
Load sensor will NOT help to optimize/help select correct detergent according to load because 1. Reading not indicated 2. You have to put detergent before start (waste of technology). If paused door opens after 2 mins and machine switches off after next 2 min (very bad). Sometimes door doesn't open even after pause or power off??? If you pause 2 times machine switches off, have to start over again (Software bug?). Machine has option like selecting pre-wash, spin, temp crease care, intensive but they have to be selected before, change of mind. No way.

Placed 1/2 load of towels in washer, started machine, then went shopping. Upon return washer door was open, water was pouring out of the door, and the towels were all over the floor. Apparently, this happened soon after we left because the washroom was flooded, the hallway was flooded, the bedroom was flooded, and the basement had the equivalent of an inch of water everywhere, it had even streamed into the garage through the wall from the washroom. After calling LG we were told the machine was out of warranty and to call an LG repairman. He was not available for two weeks.
After performing extensive diagnostics in conjunction with LG tech support, he was advised that the machine checked out in all respects, but that LG recommended replacing the "main board" and both inlet valves at a cost for parts of over $500 plus labor. We could use the machine, but recommended that we not leave the house. We have had a number of repairs to the machine for the door not locking and have expensive switches replaced. Over $500 in repairs in the first two years. Now the machine is 4 years old and they want more money (see above) for repairs.
Consumer Reports currently rates LG as the top front loader. We cannot understand how this can be an honest report, because our experience with these products and with LG has been abysmal. We noticed that on searching for LG washer problems, we came across three other reports under "Consumer Reviews" describing exactly our problem. This is the worst appliance purchase I have made. Most loads show as unbalanced to which the washer responds by refilling the tub with water. It is almost impossible to meet the machines balance requirements. The constant refilling makes the machine a little less than 'high efficiency'. The company's position that you need to wash things of similar weight in a load is ridiculous. I would have to wait until every piece of clothing I own needed washing before I could meet that requirement. A typical load takes 2+ hours to complete which includes multiple attempts to rebalance the clothes. I would recommend that you look elsewhere. I cannot fathom why there are so many positive reviews for this giant POS. (Model WT1101CW)

I bought an LG washer (model WM3170CW) and dryer (model #DLE317OW) from Home Depot in April, 2015. The installers cracked two tiles in my entryway. That was nothing compared to what followed. The dryer has to be stacked on top of the washer in order to fit in my laundry closet. The dryer makes a rattling sound because the stacking kit was apparently not installed correctly. When I called LG's foreign call center, the customer service rep. said the dryer should not be stacked. Really? Why do they sell a stacking kit then? The LG repairman they sent said at first that he couldn't fix the problem because he couldn't move the dryer by himself, then he claimed to fix it by sticking a piece of cardboard in it.
That didn't fix it, so I called LG again and told them I wanted the rattling noise fixed, and to please send two repairmen the next time, and to please not send the first repairman again (I waited for hours for him to show up, and he spent less than five minutes sticking cardboard in it). I was told they would send two guys the next time to fix it. Then, the night before the second appointment, after 7:00 p.m. at night, the same repair guy calls me and says LG will not send out another person without charging an additional $99. Then, just last week, the washer FLOODED my kitchen and dining area, causing me to spend HOURS waiting for drywall repairs to be made, at my expense.
I complained profusely to the Home Depot manager, and he basically told me that he will not allow me to return the washer/dryer, even though I've had all these problems with it, until LG has come out three times to fix it. So, basically, it appears that the 90 day return policy on Home Depot's website is not accurate. Returns are up to the HD manager's discretion, and there is no appeal process. I told him I'd be willing to buy a different brand of washer/dryer from Home Depot if he would just take this one back, but no, I have to wait around all day again for LG to show up.
Calling LG is a very frustrating experience because the customer service representatives do not speak English well. One wanted to "troubleshoot" the washing machine problems over the phone, by asking me more than once if I was using HE detergent (yes) and how much detergent I was using (seriously? the normal amount). Since when does using a normal amount of HE laundry detergent make washing machines flood gallons of water all over the floor? Unless all other washer/dryer companies go out of business, I will never buy another LG washer/dryer again, and am seriously considering boycotting Home Depot as much as possible for the foreseeable future.

The first problem was (what I found out is very common) the pump broke. The hose had to be drained and the pump replaced. Paid for new pump from authorized LG repairman plus fee for his visit. Second problem, the dryer settings stopped working. No matter what settings were selected the dryer stopped at 20 minutes. Clothes were not dry. Now we can only use the Time Dry and Temperature selection. At least we can dry the clothes. Third, the washer stopped working. We tried following instructions from LG and nothing worked. They suggested calling their authorized repairman who would charge for the visit as well as parts, etc. All the blue lights blink but the washer will not choose a setting and doesn't start.
We tried holding the start button down for 3-10 seconds. Song plays. Nothing happens. Still cannot select setting. Occasionally it is in a good mood and works normally--about 1 in 200 tries. The only way I have been getting it to wash clothes at all is by holding down the Start button at the same time as the Pause/Play button. Then IT selects a setting, usually Cotton, and the door locks and washer starts. All through cycle all lights blink including the orange one for Delayed Wash. Now nothing is happening but the blue lights for Start and Pause/Play come on, song plays and no selection, no start, no way to operate washer.
We were told LG was the BEST brand. "Life's Good" their commercials say. They should change them to "LNG: Life's Not Good" because now we can't wash our clothes and drying must be done manually. THESE WERE VERY EXPENSIVE APPLIANCES. SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SEARS AND BOUGHT THE CHEAPEST ONES SO WE COULD REPLACE THEM WHEN THEY BREAK. It's cheaper than paying the authorized repairman to come out, pay for his visit and parts. All computerized and we're told on the phone that the whole panel might need to be replaced. THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

When we went shopping for a new washer/dryer, I was upset to find that nobody carried the old-timey washing machines -- unless you wanted a very small tub that you can't wash your bedding in. I did not like the fact that these new washing machines did not let you set your own water level or preferred washing cycle (you know, permanent press, delicate, regular, etc.); nor did I like the fact that it did NOT have an agitator. I do not need a washer/dryer for "dummies" who need presets for the various types of loads. LOL Plus, I had a sneaking suspicion that a washer without an agitator couldn't get laundry cleaned properly.
Well, as it turns out, everything I did not like about the new washers is everything that I absolutely hate about our LG top loader that we bought in 2012. I was right not to want one in the first place, but I had no choice but to buy one if I wanted a NEW washer/dryer. The load sensor simply cannot gauge the size of a load properly. It either adds too much or too little water. Most of the time, it won't add enough water to cover even half of the load. When you trick it into adding more water (by opening and closing the lid as if you added garments), it ALWAYS adds water to the top -- even for a tiny load of undies.
I was told they came out with these new types of washers to help reduce water usage. Well, that's an epic fail! Especially since the machine never gets the laundry clean, which often results in washing a load two or three times. I always wondered why Downy came out with those scent-boosting pellets, which we never needed with our old-timey washer -- because these washers simply do not clean clothes and they need something to make things at least smell good. Who do they think they're fooling when soiled clothes come out of the washer still soiled?
Now, about the lack of agitator, I couldn't have been more right. I was told by the salesman that the "wave force" is the way the machine "agitates" the clothes. Well, how can the wave force work when there's too little water in the machine that it doesn't even cover the load? When it fills the tub to the top on a load that didn't need that much water, the wave force causes the clothing to get all twisted. Each piece is twisted on itself as well as twisted with other clothing items. How gentle is that on clothing?
With my old-timey washer, I could wash the dogs' bedding and have it come out minus all of the dog hair and any stains and smells. Not with this machine. There's always a significant collection of dog hair, particularly on the top, and I had to begin using color bleach to help with stains and smells better, but it's still not clean. Don't even get me started on how unclean undies come out. LOL Those two types of loads, as well as towels, are usually the ones I have to wash two or three times -- and they STILL aren't as clean as they should be.
At least the dryer does a decent job, but it makes a weird noise that has me worried it will break down at any moment. Also, I fortunately have not had as many issues with the washer getting unbalanced as I've read that others have had, but I hope I didn't just jinx myself by saying that because it does seem to be happening more often of late.
At the moment, I simply cannot afford to replace a washer/dryer set that's only a few years old. My old Maytag lasted 20+ years with only two minor belt replacements, so I certainly did not expect to have to replace a three-year-old set or spend gobs of money fixing something that, according to other reviews, probably won't fix a thing.
I tell you what, though, when I do go to replace them, if the stores do not have the old-timey machines with large-capacity tubs, I will go to a store that refurbishes them and spend my hard-earned money there -- most likely on a Maytag set. Maybe I should go check them out now to see how affordable they are. I know for a fact they won't cost thousands of dollars and will STILL actually get my clothes clean with less time and water -- not to mention without Downy's smell-good-dirty pellets. LOL
In conclusion...just say no! Not only to LG, but any washer like it because it's not possible to PROPERLY wash laundry without an agitator. Furthermore, if you're a green person like me who wants to save on water, you will cringe at how much water these washing machines cause you to waste just trying to get your laundry clean -- and to no avail.

I finally put on special and set spin only to get water out but it goes from 13 minutes to eight and then back to ten minutes.
I finally put clothes wet into dryer. Problem was intermittent initially but now seems to be problem every time. I can't stand with machine all day so generally takes today six hours to do one load wash. Out looking for a replacement machine and when purchase will put this on curb of my busy street with sign about its problems. Company recently said won't fix machine under warranty and I must pay. I've already paid for their junky machine and won't give them any more money. Anyone who buys this company's washing machines has to be crazy in my opinion. I should have purchased a good Sears set originally.

The panel under the bleach tray has started to completely erode and even showed signs early on. Received a total run around and was told "rust" is not covered under the warranty. I tried to explain that it was due to defective materials. This is a known issue by LG and they refuse to take responsibility. When my wife and I purchased our LG washer and dryer from Best Buy in highland, Indiana, our sales rep informed us that installers could switch latch and hinge side of doors upon delivery. When our machines were delivered, installer was able to give us a left side hinge, as we desired on our dryer. However, we were informed that washer was not so adaptable. We would need to wait up to two weeks for the correct machine to be delivered. When I contacted Best Buy, they would accept no responsibility for their sales agent giving us incorrect information. After using machines as is for some time now, it is really inconvenient to use with left hinges on both machines.

This washer is a POS. The stinky clothes comes from it being too stingy on the water. Yes, it's supposed to conserve water but if I don't want my clothes to stink then I have to run 2 extra rinses with each wash and then run a "Rinse and Spin" cycle once that is done. The problem is that these washers don't use enough water to rinse all the soap out, leaving some soap on the clothing fibers... which causes them to stink and stink worse once you start sweating in them. It sounds odd but the excess soap is actually getting funky in the clothes causing them to smell. Give it a try. I'm going to sell my front loader for one that doesn't care about using less water. I'd rather smell like I'm clean than save water.

Where do I start. I have the top loading, no agitator, wave force. It uses too much electricity figuring out load weight. It doesn't clean the clothes well. The bleach dispenser has ruined many towels. If I interrupt a cycle to add an item (during that time the machine allows you), it screws up the machine on how much water to add so it fills the tank completely full. Contacting the company is a joke. The repairman tells me everything's normal (he's probably in a hurry to go to the next complaint of LG washers. The feature I have allows me to put my phone up to it so LG can hear the beeps and tones for a diagnose - DOESN'T WORK (hence the repairman). I extended my warranty to three years. Problem with that is when they tell you nothing is wrong, your warranty is useless. I'm sorry for anyone who buys LG! I hope you see the negative reviews and run the other way.

You could have a large or small load and it will go uneven. When you restart the load, it will add more time and then go uneven again. There are times it will take over an hour to complete a load. You can never do small loads! I will never purchase an LG washer again. I want to get rid of this machine so bad, hard when we have paid so much for this washer. I bought this washer to replace a 20yr old Kenmore when I moved to my new house. Large loads, blankets etc I was told it would work for all. Within a year there was a recall because it became unbalanced. I had that 'fixed'. Every time I do a large or heavy item this machine goes off balance. It does not stop but goes over and over again from the beginning, wasting water and electricity. In other words I have to do multiple loads and/or stay in the house checking on the machine to be sure it doesn't go into this wasteful cycle. Always out of balance. Cannot wash a small load. Doing a bath robe? Better buy 10 of them so the machine is full otherwise it will not wash and will go out of balance. Have a blanket to wash? Sorry, you will need to wash every one of them in the house because the machine will go out of balance if you have fewer than 4-6 blankets. Forget about washing your bath mats with the waterproof, non-slip backing as those are not recommended to be washed in this washer. Just throw them out every week and buy new ones. Plan to spend hours every week staring into your washer waiting for it to go out of balance because if you do not babysit this machine, it will empty and refill, empty and refill, using hundreds of gallons of water in a futile attempt to rebalance the load. Would write more but my LG washer is out of balance again so I have to go.

LG Top Load WT517OHV washing machine is very stylish. It has a window on top so you can see into the machine. What we don't like: it smells very musty between loads. You can't wash rugs that have a rubber backing. You can't wash water-proof or water-resistant items such as jackets. The machine doesn't fill with water for a full load. We've tried all the settings. Every time we wash a load, we have to set the egg timer to come back after 10 minutes to shut the machine down. We then reset it to fool it into filling the drum entirely with water. How do you wash a full load of very dirty clothes with the tub filled with water half way or less?
Yes we called LG several times for help. Our opinion: Buy basic washing machines w/o water saving sensors. Save your money because you only need standard settings to wash your clothes effectively. Wash only full loads to save water. We've had this washer and an LG dryer DLEX5170/71 for two years w/o mechanical problems.

My new large capacity LG washer model WM8000HVA does not spin out water ninety percent or more of the time regardless of the size or type of load. The machine was purchased on 07-08-14 and delivered at the end of August 2014. I started having problems with the machine not spinning out from the first use. I had three service visits and at the 3rd visit LG technicians suggested that the service tech replace the hall sensor and main computer. They subsequently decided to replace the machine with a new one and the same problem continued. I have had two service appointments on the replacement machine and on the second visit the LG technician replaced the main computer and the hall sensor on 06-10-15 but this did not resolve the problem. I had a medium load in the washer when the tech showed up and the machine would not spin out displaying a UE error code.
After replacing the computer and sensor it still did not spin out displaying the same error code so the technician suggested that I take out more than half the clothes and then the machine spin out in three separate loads from what was originally a medium load. I inquired why this is and he informed that the machine was not really designed to wash loads above a certain size or weight. I then inquired why would one buy a large capacity washer that could not wash large loads including comforters and he said he understood. I later called LG Executive office and spoke to ** and informed her that this machine was defective and unsuitable for my needs. She initially said they would not allow a return but then later informed that she would research further and contact me by Friday 06-05. I have not heard back from her or anyone in her office to date.
I would like to add that this machine was purchased to replace LG model WM2277H which is a 4.0 CU. FT. Washer which I had for over ten years and was able to wash larger loads in than the new machine with no problems and it still works. The new WM8000HVA is advertised as a 5.2 cu. ft. mega capacity washer. I would like to have LG reclaim this washer and issue a full refund because the service/repair options have been exhausted and the machine is not working as it should which indicate there is an un-repairable defect.

This washer and dryer were rated about as well as any, so it was kind of a tossup what to get. You are supposed to use TUB CLEAN cycle monthly or more often (This on a front loader that is supposed to SAVE water) and after every time you use the machine you are supposed to wipe around the 2 gaskets that stay wet. If you don't, and even if you do this creates odors, sometimes even if you're careful to wipe all around. Wiping the gaskets down requires getting on the floor and going into the tight crevices with a rag all around. Also, you are supposed to frequently empty the "drain" at bottom and clean out the filter. This also requires sitting/crouching on floor and the first few times I had water all over the floor and under washer. Very impractical. So far it hasn't had repairs (2 years old) but is noisier over time and thumps around a lot on spin cycle. Poor design all around.

I purchased a condo in October 2010. The condo "came with" an almost new LG washer/dryer (WM2101). The washing machine has not lasted even 5 years. About a month ago, the washer "shut down" with an Le error. I called the LG 800 help number and was instructed on how to reset the machine. Multiple attempts at resetting did not resolve the problem. After determining an authorized LG service provider in the southern California area, I had a service representative come to assess/diagnose the error. The service provider could tell me that from the serial number of the machine, that it had been manufactured in November 2009 - less than a year before I purchased the condo.
Now, it is May 2015 - not even 6 years since date of manufacture - and the machine is shot. The Le error is due to worn out bearings in the machine. During the less than 5 years that I have owned this condo (and the washer/dryer), the machine has not even been used that much. The cost of repair of the machine (by this "authorized" service provider) would exceed the cost of a new LG washing machine. Not only would the cost of repair of the washing machine be excessive, the LG service provider did not recommend keeping the existing LG dryer, which was stacked on top of the washer.
So, I would have to pay for removal of both machines - with an additional cost of $160 to "unstack" the machines. As far as I am concerned, I never intend on purchasing another LG appliance. I am appalled that the US government allows companies to "prey on" US consumers with the current quality of workmanship of manufactured goods - especially large (and expensive) appliances. What happened to appliances that lasted 20+ years - or even 10 years? These large appliances that do not last but 5 years are ending up in our landfills - or having to be disassembled for recycling. Environmentalists and legislators - where are you?

We called for service which was to take place on April 29. It was determined the machine needed a new pump. It was ordered that day and was to be in in 3-5 business days. After waiting 10 days, we called Diamond Warranty service. We were told the part was ordered and there was nothing else they could do about it.
We then called Home Depot and when they checked, they found the part had been backordered and then reordered and again should be in in 3-5 business days. It finally came in May 15. We set up the repair for May 19. I took off work because my husband was in court all day. At 7:30 on the 19th, they called and said the repairman was ill and rescheduled to Thursday, May 21. On May 21, they called and said the person would be out the rest of the week and could reschedule next week after Monday.
I have now been without a washer for 25 days. Home Depot said they can do nothing but file a report against Diamond warranty and it will take one to two business days for a supervisor to respond. When I called LG they said they were very sorry and could only do the same. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they asked me to stay on the line. I held for 13 minutes and then hung up. Obviously neither LG nor Home Depot care. I want out of the extended warranty and they can take the washer and shove it because neither are any good. I have been to the laundromat 4-5 times and spent 11 to 15 dollars each time and still have no washer. I will never buy anything from LG or Home Depot again. It wasn't until the IE code that we called Sears... 2 months after our expensive $170 3 year warranty. They told us the part and we ordered it... wrong part. Finally got the right part and replaced it. The machine worked ok but we still had excessive vibrations and then it started stopping on 17 minutes. Wouldn't get past that time. Now, it is stopping at 45 minutes... and it took 3 hours to get to that point. My husband called Sears after finding out our machine is recalled and they claim that our machine doesn't count. He called a different Sears number and they said to call LG because it's an LG machine.
He calls LG and LG says that they no longer have a relationship with Sears and we need to talk to them. We then talk to Sears and the rep says our machine is definitely recalled but we need to call the recall line (which was the 1st call that had been made). He gives us the number to the escalation department and the rep claims she can't find our account. Then she says she needs a few minutes to research it and the call is disconnected. What are we supposed to do now? There really is a recall on this machine and I think it shook so bad over time that something was damaged in the unit. Sears won't help. LG won't help. Who can help? We purchased our LG Wave Force top loader model number WT5001CW about 4 1/2 years ago at my local Home Depot for $850. The biggest mistake of our lives. First, the issue with washing blankets, towels etc. The code I think IU or EU pops up and you have to reorganize the blankets and make sure the machine doesn't continue to fill the tub. Sometimes it would take 4 hours to wash my blankets or comforters. Second, the bleach dispenser (I use non-chlorine bleach) seems to always be filled with water. We think the tube is clogged but we are dealing with a more serious issue right now which is my final issue. The third and final issue having dirty clothes come out of my washer after you are supposed to have clean clothes. The delicate cycle does not allow you use to use a lot water so your clothes are not completely covered in water. Then I take out my clothes and find these pieces of dirt and pebbles.
Changed all the hoses. Didn't help. Have to shake my clothes of these dirt/pebble pieces then vacuum out my washer to do my next load. We tried to take the bottom plate off and just took off the bolt but the plate is stuck. We did find A LOT of icky stuff on the bolt so we know under the plate is the real issue. Most likely there is build up and needs to be cleaned out. My husband tried to bang it with a mallet to loosen it up and filled it with fabric softer but nothing happens. This washing machine is such a headache and I wish someone would just take it. I dislike it so much. Plus with the recall you can't wash waterproof items, haha. Depending on the setting it can take awhile, but the usual load on normal settings takes about an hour. No complaints here other than I wish it came with a booklet that described the settings. I bought a floor model so it could just be missing.

This ties in with the rust that has been running down the hinges as well. From what I've read this is common. I'm afraid to pull covers and see what's inside. Seal around the dispenser area is junk. Not happy.

If only I had checked for reviews prior to my purchase. I moved to Georgia from California a little over a year ago and was so excited about getting a new washer/dryer. I went to Home Depot (it's a small town, so the store selection is limited) and found what I thought was a really nice washer/dryer combo from LG. I couldn't have been more disappointed. The washer takes FOREVER - mostly because it continually rebalances the load - all to no avail. After multiple attempts the washer gives up and chimes to tell me to come and rebalance it.
Now - I've had washers before (all with agitators, which this one doesn't have) and one - sometimes two - rebalances corrects the problem... NOT with the LG - sometimes I have to rebalance 6 or 8 times in order for the load to complete the cycle. Then I have to repeat the process with the next spin. It doesn't just happen with odd weight loads or odd sized - it's nearly everything. I HATE THIS WASHER. DON'T BUY ONE!!!

Now they've been out 5 times, replaced 3 parts and have been told by 2 repairman from 2 different companies they have no idea what is making this noise that is so loud I can't hear a TV in my great room. Purchased an LG front load wash machine July 2013. Unless the wash machine is running the door is left open. We are having terrible mold issues. I can clean the mold off of the rubber seal where it is visible but there is a lot of mold where the seal meets the drum and the rubber does not fold back. I have tried cleaning it with a toothbrush and bleach since my finger barely fits in the space but the smell is still horrible and there is no way to wipe the mold out of the small space. I know the problem isn't detergent because I only use one pod per load and don't use fabric softener. I would definitely not recommend an LG front load washer!!!

The washer makes so much noise and lights flashing that my papillon stands back and barks from afar. No matter if I choose 20 minutes for delicate or speed cycle that says 30 minutes it takes an hour. I bought used Maytag and wish everyday that I could own any brand but LG, and I will never buy anything that saves water again. How much is my time worth? A lot. I will join you in any lawsuit or civil action. These machines are horrible and expensive. What a waste. But I laughed so hard reading the posts, I am sure it added years to my life. I was looking online to see if I could throw the detergent in with the clothes because the dispenser does not work anymore.

Purchase a set of LG washer (WT4870CW) and dryer from Best Buy that was last year’s model on 04/12/2014. Upon the washing machine acting up and not draining after about 10 or 11 months, we called LG support to get it corrected, was when we were informed it was almost two years old. Even when we had it less than a year. The washing machine had OE and UE errors popping up interrupting the spin cycle continuously, requiring resetting and restarting in the spin cycle. The first tech diagnosed it needed a stator, ordered that to our house and installed it, problem continued. LG schedule second tech service company, who diagnosed, after reading bulletin stator replacement no longer done, but circuitry parts. Ordered two, parts came to house and third person came in only installed one circuit, stating I needed two separate circuits for washer and dryer. Problem continued.
LG was notified and I was informed the previous appliance service technicians came from an appliance service company that they can no longer recommend. Plus since this problem has extended past the original warranty I needed to get an extension, which was done at no cost, to cover the next service person. A third appliance company, who came today and diagnosed "Pipe in house will not let unit drain, gets pressure build up and no drain. Customer needs plumber. Nothing wrong with unit.” I immediately returned home and showed the tech the fault of his diagnosis by detaching the drain from the drain pipe in the house and connecting the cold water feed to the drain pipe and had it run for several minutes. THEN he said, "I don't know what to tell you." Then he said my pipe was too high, so I pulled out the manual nearby and NOPE the pipe length was well within the distance in the manual. Wrong again.
"The machine works" he said, when you don't connect it to the drain pipe, so it’s a drain problem he said. Nothing wrong with the machine when you disconnect it and let it run in a garbage barrel, he said. What are you talking about, the machine worked for like 10 or 11 months and now this problem won't go away and you are saying that the problem is not with the machine? “Oh it tries to send the water up but it can only send so much, then it figures it can't then it shuts down.” “Oh,” I said, “then it’s a sensor problem, or a computer problem.” “No there is nothing wrong with the machine, when you disconnect the pipe into a garbage barrel.”
How does this continue on? “Oh, I'll have my boss give you a call, because I can't fix a problem that isn't there.” There were also suggestions to re-route my drain pipe through the basement window opening, creating a new larger pipe, but his suggestions simply met deaf ears by that time. So after he leave and here I am at the Consumer Affairs site reading all the numerous complaints and I find one service tech diagnosed a pressure switch as the problem, which under warranty I would welcome before I send this unit to the scrap heap.

I do not recommend purchasing an LG washing machine. Repair calls are expensive. If this repair is more than a couple hundred dollars, we're dumping this machine and buying something else.

December 2008 we bought the pair of LG front load washer/dryer model of washer WM1333HW at Corbeil Electro. We've made several complaints to LG about the problems with both machines in summer 2013. They send the Oxebo service company to repair both. For the washer they had to come 3 times, drain was not fixed properly and machine was doing awful lots of noise. They did came to fix the drain (after it had ruined my wood floor, without no compensation) but they never fixed the noise, they said it was normal even though it wasn't doing so much noise before.
During the autumn 2014, the noise was getting more and more intense and was literally eating and ripping the clothes (the baby's clothes were disappearing or getting ripped and the leftovers were found through the drain at each wash). I then did another service call on February 24, 2015 to LG, they said I would have to pay a fix price for each problem (about 200$ per problem for the noise, the eating of clothes and the drain). I decide to do nothing thinking it was too expensive.
In April 2015, now the washer is no longer working, pieces were coming out of the drain, I called LG service again, but this time they said they wouldn't repair the machine at a fixed price. I had to call Oxebo service company myself and pay for time and material. When I asked why they wouldn't do the repair because I called a month before, they said the rules have been changed for this machine. I asked what this meant and the lady answered that for this serial number they wouldn't do the repair... I then asked to speak with a manager and the lady said he would call back in 48 hours, but after 2 weeks he never did.
My thinking is that they know the washer had a problem to begin with, the company that repaired it did not repaired properly and the machine is broken and no one at LG wants to take responsibility for it. I don't mind paying for the repair, but they should at least offer to repair it since they know it wasn't repair properly a year ago.

We have been dissatisfied in every way. It takes hours to complete a wash cycle and the only chance you stand of getting through a wash cycle without machine stopping every 10 minutes and showing an error code is if you wash like items, ie only towels or only jeans... and then you still often times have to reposition at least once. Many times I can't get the load to finish and have had to remove and wring out by hand soaked and dripping items from machine. On one occasion it took over three hours to complete a small load as the load had to be redistributed and the washer restarted on three/four separate occasions. When I e-mailed LG regarding this problem I was told to check the circuit breaker!! This is a design flaw. LG as well as some other manufacturers have eliminated the costly, heavy and expensive transmissions found in earlier washers with a system that just plain doesn't work. Unfortunately after a week of calling them and no return calls I ended up having Sears come out. He spun the drum in the machine all for $105 and then stated that the repairs would be $1100 as the bearings had gone out.
I paid $700 for this washer. How can the repairs cost more? The Sears service rep said that I was over using the machine. I explained that I only fill up to the minimum line on the guide inside. I purchased a $700 LG washing machine. After 1.5 years, the machine stopped working. It literally died, no display, no nothing, right in the middle of a wash. The lid was electric, therefore we could not get our clothes out of the machine (in about 12 inches of water). We had 4 different servicemen out (sent by LG) and none of them knew how to open the lid, until the 4th arrived with a 9 volt battery and got it open. Of course, the clothes were ruined. I explained the situation to LG and they actually sent me a check for $275 (the estimated cost of the clothing) and Best Buy gave me credit for the defective machine, which we used to upgrade to a "better" model LG washing machine. The new expensive machine continually gave the UE error message, inappropriately. It would show this even when we were cleaning the tub and nothing was in it. This got so bad eventually it started taking us a day or more to complete one load of clothes.
Sooooo, I put in another call to customer service, who repeatedly told me it was out of warranty and they couldn't do anything. I asked to speak to someone in management and was transferred to executive services. They actually listened to my story, sympathized with me and sent out a repairman (who ordered parts, over $900) and fixed the machine. It now runs great! So, even though some companies like LG make a product that has serious performance issues, their customer service has done an excellent job addressing my concerns and going out of their way to make it right.

Had I read the numerous horror stories on this website I would probably think twice about LG appliances. However, I have absolutely no problems with my LG washers/Dryers. The first pair, purchased in March 2011 were front-load 4CF washer model WM2101HW, and WM2101HW, electric dryer. This set still works perfectly at my ex's place.
The second set, purchased 11/2014, were top-load 4.7CF washer model WT5070CV, and DLE1101W electric dryer. This brand new set works great - the washer has a huge capacity with a short, stubby agitator at the bottom. However, I miss my old LG front-load washer's advantages: it uses less water yet cleans clothes slightly better, it is much gentler on clothes hence producing little lint if any, and it washes bulky loads such as pillows better because, having no agitator, it just tumbles the load over and over. So far so good, knock on wood.

I will NEVER buy from LG again. They have done nothing to correct the problem but come in and replace the motherboard which does nothing. I ignored the reviews that said the front load washer leaks. LG will not cover the leaking door in the WARRANTY. It’s a handsome machine, looks great, washes well - but have a rag, sponge, or mop handy because the DOOR LEAKS. MY WASHER IS 6 months old. We have done around 8 loads of wash. We are a couple with no children yet, so we dry clean most of our clothing and have little to wash. The first time it leaked I thought it was a fluke. The second time I ignored it. This machine is pricey and for the money, you should get a PERFECT MACHINE! I am warning people to read reviews then ask a few sales people if the door leaks and they will tell you, YES IT LEAKS. IF THEY SAY IT DOESN'T, GET IT IN WRITING!
Until LG deals with this problem, they shouldn't be allowed to sell this washer. The puddle gets bigger with each load. I wonder when the floor will be covered with water. We clean the door, the rubber gasket and don't pack clothes into it. Our other front load washer by a different manufacturer does not leak and we have had that pair at our summer house for eight years with no problems. Don't waste $1000 Dollars on a machine that leaks because Home Depot and LG will not help you. LIFE’S GOOD WHEN YOU PAY FOR SOMETHING AND IT WORKS!

I bought this washer from Conn's 2 years ago along with the matching dryer. I bought it on the recommendation of my nephew who had the set. I guess he never used it otherwise he wouldn't have recommended it to me or 2 of my sisters or he flat out hates us. My 2 sisters have already sold off the washer for cheap on craigslist and bought GE products; I will be doing it the same thing soon.
This POS gets off balance even when during a Tub Clean which is done when the washer is empty. It can take hours to complete a load as you have to babysit it to make sure you won't get the UE code; when that happens it will fill the washer with water and try again, over and over. When I can get a load to go through a cycle completely without an error code I feel like I have won a prize. I do know that the best way to get a load to complete is to fill that sucker up! Small loads will continually go off balance until you reach the breaking point of pulling out most of the wet load and spinning it out by sections. I've done this too many times to count but I won't wash baby clothes with the regular laundry.
Oh yeah, when the machine had to refill and refill with water, the detergent and softener dispensers get filled with water even after the load has completed so when you go to do another load and pour the product in, it releases into the load immediately as it's full of water. I now have to check that the drawer is empty before adding in the detergent, if not then I have to shake and open and shut the drawer rapidly to clear out the excess water.
If you have small children be aware that they can climb in the drum and if they have accidentally turned it on and closed the lid, they are going for a ride! My 7 year old daughter and her friend did this to scare me only it backfired on them, the machine started despite the fact I had the child lock enabled. The lid would not open even after being unplugged, the mechanism jammed. We had to break the lid to get the girls out before they suffocated. Needless to say they were the ones scared beyond belief and mostly unhurt except some scratches and bruises. The drum is HUGE, 2 kids fit in there along with half a load of laundry! LG replaced the lid and said they would work on the child lock aspect and get back to me but I haven't heard a thing from them.
I don't think it cleans well either, I've pulled out crib sheets and they still have spit up on them which is gross. Because of the way the drum agitates, items usually end up balled up or tangled together so not everything gets cleaned. On every load I usually set it to the soak cycle so I know everything is getting wet; when I forget is when I find stains that should have come out. Buy any other brand than this one, I'm buying a GE even though they are loud machines. This is a quiet machine, you don't even notice that it's refilled the washer in the rinse cycle for the past four hours straight as the UE signal doesn't always come on.

When it was programmed for the amount of water it uses now, the engineers lengthened the washing cycle, which increases electricity use. Lengthen the cycle did not cause the clothes to get cleaner. More water is the key and maybe a redo of the soap used in cleaning the clothes. Either way there must be an adjustment. Let's hope they listen eventually or they will lose sales big time. My sister has the same problem with her front load machine. The dryer is just fine, great. You just have to take my word for it. Pictures won't give you the smell and why would I lie about a purchase that I paid over a thousand dollars to buy?

On March 28, 2015 our LG front load machine was run on the tub clean cycle. It overfilled with water and the door seal failed. Water poured out of the machine and it just kept on filling. Water damaged several rooms in our home. We handled the emergency by shutting off the water supply. Hooking up shop vacs to the drain hose to empty the water in the machine. Shop vacs were filled many times over to clean up the floors and empty the machine. Commercial Dehumidifiers, floor dryers and fans were brought in to try and save the wood and tile floors, cabinetry and personal things. Water bubbled out of the wood floors in our new home.
We contacted our retailer, Grand Appliance in Madison Wisconsin and they said they will file a claim with LG, but that LG doesn't typically cover both replacing the defective machine and repairing the damages caused. I will report back when we have something in writing from LG, but we are not happy that they haven't responded yet and even more unhappy that the retailer cannot assure us the manufacturer will make this right.

Purchased a new LG top loading washing machine from Home Depot Dec. 2011. The coating on the top of the machine at the bleach dispenser has disintegrated resulting in the metal rusting and flaking off. Occasionally, clothes are coming out with rust stain. I have contacted LG and have gotten no satisfaction from them. I was told the machine is out of warranty and that this is a cosmetic issue and there is nothing LG can do. Home Depot's extended warranty also does not cover this problem. Apparently we purchased a washing machine that was not designed to operate and dispense bleach as one of its functions. This is an example of poor design and quality that a major company is not willing to recognize and offer the consumer assistance in correcting. We can get some comfort in the 10 year warranty on drive motor even though the machine won't last that long. Needless to say we will not purchase another LG product.

Stupidly, I purchased LG front load washer/dryer from Best Buy in Ocala, FL May 2014. February 2015 it started leaking on the final spin cycle. I phoned LG and they referred me to a local company for service. They came to my residence, of course, couldn't find the leak. He left and stated if the problems persists to phone LG. Well, sure enough, that Saturday I used the washer and it leaked. I phoned LG and found them to be extremely rude and uncooperative. He told me it was my detergent. I explained that I have used Gain packets ever since I had the washer and if this was the problem why didn't this occur last year? Well, he obviously didn't get it. He just kept saying it was my laundry detergent. I finally, in total exasperation, told him that I was very angry and was hanging up.
That week, I played his game. I bought Wisk, in a bottle. Well I had 3/4 of a load and I put the detergent in the cup well below the normal line! Well, you guessed it, IT LEAKED. I phoned Best Buy in Ocala, FL and spoke to **. He was very nice and stated, "LG needs to replace the washer." ** called LG. HOWEVER, they wanted the service man to come out again. Well, he did, and no, he couldn't find the leak. Just used this worthless washer and it leaked again. I phoned Best Buy in Ocala, FL and spoke to **. Couldn't reach **, they supposedly have two **s. Well ** was of no help. When I told him ** said the washer should be replaced, he stated he couldn't help me as I didn't BUY EXTENDED WARRANTY! You've got to be kidding me. It's still under the original warranty. Best Buy sold it...Best Buy should help customers. But that's not the case.
I've cancelled my Best Buy credit card, I will never go there again. This is outrageous. To spend this kind of money and have these problems. My other washers lasted 15-20 years and I never had any problems. This is the first and last front loader that I will buy and also my first and last LG appliance. They are junk. Everyone needs to be aware. Go back to top load washers -- They are cheaper and stand the test of time!

Purchased an LG Direct Drive washing machine model WT5001CW in 2011 from Sears. Seemed to be working well. Would get UE error for unbalanced loads now and then, and machine would stop. In 2013 we received a recall repair notice and as a good consumer scheduled the repair. Since then, the machine has not worked properly. We get UE message sometimes but typically at the 9 minute point in cycle, it goes into a continual refill/empty mode. We have to reposition clothing and try to get it to spin clothes but it rarely does. We end up having to cancel the cycle and re-program a spin only cycle. Sometimes this resolves the issue but most of the time doesn't.
I called LG today to let them know what is happening and got nowhere. The rep said I am out of warranty date. I explained this has been happening since recall "fix" but it didn't matter. He offered to schedule a repair but it would cost a minimum of $200. Basically, a 4 y/o super expensive ($900) washer is defective due to their repair.

I have contacted LG a number of times and they have just given me the Royal runaround with absolutely NO satisfaction. They have had me do smart analyses and even sent a serviceman to my house twice when I have tried explaining to them multiple times that there is nothing mechanical wrong with the machine...it's just a manufacturer's design defect (that would be LG). I have tried 5 different detergents and now they want me to try pods and even buy a water softener which I do not need because my water is not hard. I had a Kenmore for many years before this lemon, and it worked just fine with my water. I begged LG to exchange this washer for one that actually cleans since I have a warranty as well as an extended warranty and they refuse to do anything at all. Not only did LG not stand behind my nearly new washer, this machine is pure junk.
I know to watch and check that hose frequently although I can say it's never had another issue with the assembly correction. Problem is it just doesn't clean. I'm a mom of 3 super-active kids and laundry is done all the time in my house.

So he tried to recreate it by running several loads...felt stupid - He never smelt it again, but gave me his card and said call if it happens again. So it did a day later. he came back out. Opened up the top and saw nothing near the mechanical piece at the end of the washer. Smelled nothing after several loads. He said, "Well make your loads smaller and of the same weight, That way there is nothing off balance." He assured me that if there was a problem the circuit would break if it got too hot.
Well I threw a load in and went upstairs talking to my son. I came down and there were smoke fumes everywhere spurting out from the drum of the washing machine. Had I not come down and stopped it -- my house would have burnt down. I unplugged the machine quickly, opened all doors on a frigid winter day, and brought a fan to get fumes out of our house. Every person even the repair man and the guy at Lowes when I was looking at new washers said he had NEVER heard of a washing machine catch on fire.
