I purchased an LG WT5101HV Washer and DLGX5102V Gas Dryer in May 2011. For two years, I had no problems with either machine. Occasionally, I received an Unbalanced Error, but if I did receive the error, the load was truly unbalanced. I received a recall letter in the mail in July 2013 and called LG to schedule a recall service, with the assumption that the defective parts (plastic tub supports) would be replaced. LG sent Buy Rite Appliances to do the repair. The technician arrived and told me he was there to do a software update and was in and out of my home within a few minutes. My washer has been unable to complete any cycle that I have attempted since the software update was performed.
I called Buy Rite Appliances to report that the machine was unable to complete a cycle, as it was constantly flashing an Unbalanced Error during the cycle, with or without items in the tub, which meant that the tub filled, agitated and emptied over and over and over and over again, without ever switching to the Spin cycle from the Rinse cycle. I was informed by the technician that performed the update that this is "normal" and that I should pause the cycle upon seeing the error and restart it again. In my mind, this was not normal as I never had to do this before. Before the recall "fix" I started a cycle. It completed by itself, and then I moved the laundry to the dryer.
After that discussion, I called LG and explained my situation to three different people before someone agreed to set another appointment with Buy Rite to have them look at the washer again. The next morning I received a call from Buy Rite basically refusing to come out and look at the machine, as the Unbalanced Errors are "normal." I explained again that my machine had not completed a cycle since the update and was unable to switch from Rinse to Spin and that this was not, in fact, normal. They said they would make a call to the tech hotline and call me back. Later that day, they called me back with some more questions and stated that they would call me back when they knew how to proceed. Two days later, I called them to confirm the repair appointment that LG had previously set with them and was told that they determined, without actually looking at the machine, that I would need a Rotor and Stator and that it would be up to me to call LG and get an APM, and that, no, they would not be out for the service appointment.
I called LG again and explained the parts and APM situation with Buy Rite to three different people and was ultimately told that I would need to upload my original receipt before a determination could be made on parts approval. I uploaded the receipt and called LG for a status update. After talking to three more people and explaining the situation each time, I was told I would need to be connected with someone to perform a Smart Diagnosis and after that an extended warranty would be issued and only then parts would be approved. When I was connected with the Smart Diagnosis department, I spent over 20 minutes on hold before being told to call back later because they could not pull up the Smart Diagnosis application on their workstation.
I downloaded the Smart Diagnosis application to my phone, which diagnosed a Symptom Num (5, 88), which states "the symptom needs to contact the call center." I contacted the call center though the phone application and explained my situation to two people at LG. The second person performed a Smart Diagnosis twice over the phone and then told me that I had no problems, it was just an Unbalance Error and I should check the size of the load and the leveling of the machine, etc. Upon beginning to hear this explanation, I abruptly cut the representative off and explained for the umpteenth time that my washer had worked perfectly prior to the "Recall Software Update" being installed on my machine, and now the machine was unable to complete a cycle, rendering it utterly useless to me. The representative then scheduled yet another appointment with Buy Rite Appliances for 7 days later with approval for repairs.
And here I sit, with a broken, recalled machine, waiting for someone to make it whole again. Although I don't have an "exploding" machine as of yet, I would be more than happy to be a Named Plaintiff in a Class Action. My receipt clearly states that I purchased an "LGAP WT5101HV/S-GLA GR/S 'LG' 5.2 1100 RPM 'HE' TOP-LD." This is not what I have sitting in my home now. I have an LG machine that, by all accounts, tops out at 700 RPM due to the software "fix", which is false advertising and may yet explode, and is unable to complete a cycle, but fills completely the tub with water over and over and over again in its inability to complete a cycle, wasting both water and energy, rendering it definitely not, in my mind, "HE." And there is that mountain of laundry that is accumulating that no one but me seems to care about.

I don't care how many times a mo. I run the cleaning cycle, it still smells. My laundry comes out smelly. I leave the door open for up to 2 or 3 hours after I wash, dry the inside around the door. I also drain the drain hose about 4 times a mo. I take the roller jets out like 2 times a mo. and clean them. We have leveled it so much and even put a piece of plywood under it and that didn't help with leveling. This washer is really just a joke.

When I decided to purchase this washer, I chose LG expecting to be dealing with one of the top corporations in electronics. What a disappointment! On trying to have it repaired - error message indicating the machine is not draining - I contacted you asking for a local authorized dealer. I was given the name of RISING SERVING SOLUTIONS whom I contacted and got an appointment for a WEEK LATER. So far, after 3 visits of their technician who changed the drain motor twice, the "brain" of the machine and having paid $390 for the "repair", I continue to have the same exact problem. On my last conversation with the technician he alleged that the problem is with the drain hose/pipe.
Although I'm not knowledgeable on the subject this explanation makes no sense, since the machine drains water properly on the wash and rinse cycles, presenting the problem only on the spin going on to dry cycle. Calling twice and speaking to your "supervisors" at customer service led nowhere. What to do next?

My brother bought my mother a state-of-the-art LG washer. It is supposed to wash and dry all in one. At first, it worked good. However the drying failed and LG sent out a repair man. They told my mother that it was her fault that the machine was not working (pilot error) wrong! I tested it myself. I spent hours one night doing every combination the book asked and followed the repairman's advice as asked. It did not dry properly. I cleaned the traps and drain the water from the drain hole. My mother has had clothes all over the bathroom to dry her things. She has had LG get repair for the same problem over and over. This time it burst some sort of air line and made a screaming vent of air. I happen to have been visiting her when it happened.
The repair man could find nothing wrong other than it not drying. Mom talks my ear off over the matter and all she wants is to wash and dry. She is running back and forth to the laundromat. She is 72 and should not have to have this type of problem. I know she will not run it now. The machine had scared her on the air whatever. The machine is still under warranty but all they do is try to rip her off. One service sent by LG wanted $65 to even touch something not covered. She asked if he could fix the garbage disposal and he did, and charged her $95. I was smoking hot when I heard. One he was there to fix the LG, but took her for 95 dollars for a clogged disposal.
I am 300 miles away and all that keeps happening is I talk to the damn repairman via phone. Anybody have any idea on what I can do? The machine was over $1200 and it only washes a few things at a time. My brother was trying to make things easier for her getting the machine as a gift, but it has made her life hell. She would have been better with her old upright washer. And of course the machine worked the two days he visited. He was impressed with the bells, whistles and lights. How can a company like LG get away with this?

I would like to participate in any class action lawsuit, but have very limited time to devote to any effort like this so am hoping it can be simple. I've been dealing with the stink of this machine for years--I've followed the directions in the users manual as well as reading online comments--but the odor has built up so badly that I have to drain it every day and keep the door wide open all the time, as well as do the regular cleaning maintenance. The odor in my towels is impossible to remove. Basically, I would like to have some type of compensation for the significant inconvenience that this expensive appliance causes.

LG sucks. I bought an LG washer and dryer set (top load) and just like the other 907 people on here complaining... my washer does not work right ever since LG so called upgraded our washer!!! No, it will not even complete one cycle. LG is doing NOTHING to fix this situation except for continuing to send repair people out... All I want is my washer the way it was BEFORE the so called upgrade... I will NEVER and I MEAN NEVER OWN ANOTHER LG PRODUCT!!! Save your money! DO NOT buy LG!

I do not understand how your company can recall a washing machine, put a part in the machine and it is still not fixed but yet your company calls it completed. I am not able to wash my children's winter coats, raincoats, sporting clothing, bathroom rugs, and everything else that has water proofing including my son's, who is in a crib, mattress bed. I don't understand how your company can call it fixed. I am very disappointed with your company and unless I get resolution to this problem, I will be going to the Attorney General in NYS. I plan also to spread the word regarding the lack of customer satisfaction I received from your company. This is awful to do to customers who made good money for a product. Now, I have to go to a Laundromat to wash my clothes. Does that make sense to anyone who has bought a washer???

I own an LG front load washer. It has been problematic since its purchase 3 years ago. It never cleans the clothes. It makes clothes smell awful. I found out others are having the same problem. I wish they give my money back. I used all the recommended treatments, washing machine cleaners (additional expense), emptying its water often (additional inconvenience), leaving the door open when not in use (hit my legs and bruise them), still clothes smell horrible, especially towels seem to absorb this mushy smell. I hope soon I will get rid of it. I missed clean smelling fresh clothes so much. I need to use a ton of drying sheets to suppress the smell. NEVER BUY FRONT LOADING WASHER. I WILL NEVER AGAIN. They do not save water because you have to wash your clothes again and again. Also you need to clean the machine with special cleaners while running it empty. So in the end no water is saved.

I received an LG front load washer at 12 noon today. I did the first load which spewed soapy water on the floor. I did subsequent small loads with no overflow. The dispensers retain clear water after cycle completed. I contacted LG to question why the water remains in the dispensers and why the overflow. I was informed that I used too much soap which caused the overflow. This is my second LG, and I am no dummy. I know how to fill the soap dispenser to the 'normal' or 'max' levels using HE products. The response from LG is "We only recommend 2 tbs for a big load." I measured the amount of liquid to fill to the 'normal' mark which is 5 tbs and to the 'max' level which is 7 tbs.
I explained this to the LG rep and the response was, "We have already sent this numerous times to the designers." WHAT??? They know about the problem, continue to produce the product using the same improper guides in the manual and intuitively, the consumer follows the dispenser level marks and provide no ALERT to consumer!!! Of course, I still needed to know about the clear water remaining in the dispensers. "That is normal. The dispenser dispenses by overfilling the drawer, that is shy there is water remaining at the end." Of course! We all want stagnated water to sit in the drawer possibly turning moldy and smelly to be dispensed into the next load of wash! I am absolutely incredulous!
How can a manufacturer possibly continue to produce and sell such a subpar product? I was pleased with my last LG that performed well for 6 years and recently started to overflow and would not pump the water adequately out of the washer. Not wanting to put money into repairs, I foolishly elected to purchase a new and improved LG washer. What kind of fool am I?

Recalled for the off balance spin issue; repair took a week or two, then after software upgrade, was told I could not use the washer for washing some items that I need to wash in it - the reason I originally bought the machine in the first place. No apparent solution to this issue - only to purchase another machine. After this experience, would NOT purchase another LG washing machine...

Purchased Kenmore Model # 29272 on 07/07/2013 from SEARS, and this model is an LG product. That is confirmed online. Most important product info is this Washing Machine has a current recall by The CPSC Consumer Protection and is not approved for resale in the US. Always check, as I did, if the product you are purchasing from Sears, or other companies, labeled "floor model, used, etc." is not a recalled item. Still shopping at Sears. B+.

This is the second washer we purchased from LG and the first one lasted three years and was unable to be fixed. We purchased a higher grade, better washer that has now broken after 2 years. The warranty company came and replaced all new parts and left. I went to wash a load and it was still not working with the same issue. They are now unable to come back for two weeks! Who's paying my laundry bill and if it’s not fixed again, do we get a replacement?! What type of company sells a $1,300.00 washer that lasts two years!

I also purchased an LG front load washer with all the bells and whistles. The first month, it worked fine, then clothes were coming out with holes in them and the color was gray and dingy. I have written at least five letters, and as yet have not received any written response. Upon calling, l was referred to repair or Best Buy. My warranty was not an issue, but l failed to get any results. It has been three years and l as a consumer will never purchase an LG product again. And interestingly enough, on the day it was delivered, the delivery guy stated, "Good luck as the machine is a piece of junk." He was absolutely correct.

I used to own a front load LG washer. It was great and served our needs very well for years. The only problem with it was it sprung a leak and we could not get a repair man out to fix it in our area! I decided it was time to replace this machine and bought another LG washer, this time a top load. What a mistake! This washer is a nightmare. It has wrecked our sheets. They are permanently stained a blotchy grey color. They have large bleach stains as well. This is not where it stops either. Our towels are all bleach stains, as well as socks and other items a person would use bleach for. This washer wrecked many of our belongings! I just hate it! It got moisture in the control panel a few weeks after owning it. I phoned to Lowe's and they told me to call LG. LG told me to call a service company who would not come out until LG called them for fear of not being paid. I have never had any result! WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY I PERSONALLY SAVED TO PURCHASE THIS DETRIMENT TO MY HOUSEHOLD!

LG WM2301HW Washing Machine has been nothing but problems. I started a load and smelled something burning. I found the washing machine not working ... it's burning from within, black burning internally - arched inside on the wires - caught fire. LG does not want to recognize that there is a problem... This is a huge legality and liability for LG. No machine should catch on fire... LG needs to make it right. Could this model be a recall? I found a lot of bad reviews on this model.

I purchased an LG washer in Sept. ‘09. On June 13, 2013, I attempted to wash a medium size load. But when I went to put the wash into the dryer, the washer was flashing OE. I checked the manual and did as instructed. The drain hose was not bent, pinched or clogged. I clean the filter. Finally had to call for service and was told the motor assembly A/C pump needed replacing. This machine in not 4 years old. Guess that's why the warranty was for only 1 year on all the smaller parts. What kind of company makes such items and can only guarantee the said item for "1 year"??? Thank goodness for "Worry Free".

I purchased this expensive front loading washer/dryer set from Sears 3 years ago. I bought the extended warranty! And within 6 months, the washer (which smelled terribly moldy inside) would not drain. I read the manual, opened the little door at the bottom left, pulled out the hose and drained the machine. It took a long time! It happened several more times over the years. I would call for service under warranty and the repairman would do the same thing I did, but never really FIXED the problem, which SHOULD NOT HAPPEN over and over. Is there a recall of this machine or permanent fix of this problem? Has anyone else had this happen? I’ve had it with LG products!! What to do?

I purchased washer from Sears on 3/21/13. It is now 6/15/13 and the washer has been out of service for 8 weeks. It is always the same problem, the computer board. The first time it went out, the service person came out and said it would be 10 days to get the parts shipped. It worked for 2 days before going out again. This time, it again took 10 days to get the parts shipped. This worked for 1 day before it went out again. The service guy called and said it was another part and had it shipped another 10 days. When it got here, the service guy said it was the wrong part, so now another 10 days for the parts to ship.
In between scheduling for someone to actually come out and repair the machine was always a couple more days. I called LG USA directly and was basically told nothing. Not even a "Sorry for your trouble." Their response was that there was nothing that they could do. Apparently, once you buy an LG product, you are on your own. They already have your money so they don't care about anything else. If you see an LG appliance, run away, run far, run fast. Just stay as far away from it as possible. Buy a Samsung or any other brand but stay away from LG.

We are so disappointed that we will have to replace this expensive appliance after just three and a half years. The service tech said it would need a new spin basket, motor, stator and hall sensor. It will cost $530 for parts and $350 for labor. But we can deduct $92 for the cost of the motor which is covered under the 10-year warranty. I feel taken. LG had the best repair history according to Consumer Reports, which is why we made the decision to purchase an LG. But I feel like three and a half years is way too short for a washing machine to last. I won't be buying LG again.

They scheduled an appointment that a part had to be ordered so the date had to be changed. 10 days later, the part was put in my washer. It still doesn't work right.
I have had 3 service calls on it. Everyone tells me my washer has so many problems don't bother getting it fixed. I have tried to talk to someone at LG to be transferred from one dept. to the next to emailing. The website won't let me make a complaint. LG Front Load Washer & Dryer - Bought new several years ago. Worst product, bad design, many problems, and bad smell despite frequent cleaning of the bottom trap hose and screw on filter thing (and despite sanitize/tub clean over and over). It never rinses clothing or even washes it satisfactorily. Not energy efficient because it takes 4 rinses to get soap and stinky sour odor out of clothing. It never smells or feels clean anyway. Spent a thousand dollars to have it fixed when it wouldn't turn around. The smell is bad. Lots of other bad design issues besides the biggest problem. It doesn't clean the clothing!!
LG makes REALLY BAD QUALITY PRODUCTS. The gas range is awful and so is the gas dryer and the microwave. It is blue inside, which is the only good thing about it. NEVER BUY LG ANYTHING. Maytag Neptune are great. I had them before the LG and were amazing. LG SUCKS.

Well, we are now scheduled for the 13th time for a "certified LG tech" to come look at my washer that doesn't work. This is the replacement machine for the first one that didn't work. After several calls to LG's 800 #, I was transferred to Robert in the executive call center (ha ha). At least he spoke English. He acted like he was concerned about the problem I was having and was going to help get it resolved. He talked to their techs, called the local service company, claimed to have had parts sent out and a service appointment scheduled. I was to receive a call when the parts arrived (2-3 days) to schedule a time that would be convenient for me (ha ha). Well, it's been 4 days and no call, so I called the local service company and they had received nothing from LG. They had a call but nothing had been scheduled, no parts sent, and no authorization for service. Surprise, surprise, surprise!
I called LG again, asked for Robert, and instead I got some silly girl that did not have a clue. I insisted that I wanted to speak to Robert and was finally transferred to him. I am not sure if it was the person I spoke with before but this time it was a new story. No parts were being ordered. They would have the tech come look at the machine and go from there. So it will be another week with a broken washing machine. It took 6 hours to do 2 loads of laundry. The machine continues to think it had an unbalanced load and fill to the top with water. Never really washes clothes, just fills, jiggles and few minutes, drains and starts over. Definitely energy efficient!

Our washer (LGWM2301H) was purchased 3.5 years ago. Recently, it developed a grinding sound that was amplified when spinning. A repairman charged me $80 to tell me that the bearings were going and, OF COURSE, that particular problem was not covered under the warranty (whatever the hell is), and that the repair would cost more than $500.
My husband and I are both a little shy of 70 years young and do just a few loads a week. Also, we have used numerous AMERICAN-made washers in our lives that never broke down but just were replaced due to age. This expensive LG was a treat for my retirement; my husband wanted me to have the BEST. Well, as it turned out, we bought the "BEST" of the "Asian junk market" or wherever this jewel was conceived - LG has taken care not to provide that information. It has been hauled away today and been replaced by an ALL AMERICAN-MADE MAYTAG top loader. The downside of this is that LG screwed us out of $800. (I could have had my laundry sent out for that amount.) But the upside is that, hopefully, LG will continue to put out junk and screw itself out of the market with the rest of the junk producers. It is refreshing to know that the MAYTAG IS ONCE AGAIN COMPLETELY MADE IN AMERICA, BY AMERICANS - WITH COPPER WIRING AND NO ALUMINUM JUNK . Go for it, LG. I can only hope that you will continue digging your own grave.

I bought a washer and dryer, one on top of the other one, with stacking kit offered by LG. It is even in the manual as an option for the customer from Home Depot. The washer is leaking from the bottom when it was two months old... I can't believe a brand new machine is not working right in only two months. How can I be sure when they delivered this washer at my house that it was brand new? I am very suspicious with how Home Depot and LG do business. I have this one year warranty offer by LG. Well, it is not like that. I called for service and first of all, they don't have their own technicians. They hire subcontractors who really don't know what they are doing, that's why so many stupid people, instead of fixing, were messing the machines up.
On top of it all, this subcontractor wanted to charge me $145 to put the dryer on the floor in order for them to inspect the washer, which is at the bottom. I called Home Depot and I DID not get any help from them, either. When I bought these machines, they told me it was covered and I didn't have to pay anything if it breaks under the 1-year warranty. They even offered me an extension warranty that I DID not take... It is only two months old, and in order for the technician to come before they inspected the washer and fixed it, I had to come up with $145.
What a rip-off. I asked for a manager, and he said the same thing, blaming me for choosing to stack the machines one on top of the other one. They talked nonsense. I wanted to return it to Home Depot...They didn't take it. And they can't even exchange it. I paid for the installation, as well, but it is for nothing that I spent almost $2,000 for these ** LG machines...I will never ever buy LG products. They really suck and it is all a **.

I had an LG washer for about three and half years. The washer stopped spinning. I called LG for the 10-year warranty and was told that a technician would come out and check the washer. I was told it would be around $100 to diagnose the problem. I told LG that the motor was slipping, it should be covered under their 10-year warranty. They said I would still have to pay a technician to come out to tell me what I already knew. I argued with them many times about the problem. I even asked them to send someone out for a courtesy call; they would not . They finally gave me the number for Parts.
They found the part for the motor rotor assembly. They opened the back of the washer, undid the mounting bolt, removed the rotor, and sure enough, the rotor assembly gear was made of cheap plastic. It was strange because the new one with a metal center was stripped out. This not only should be covered by the warranty, but also, a defective product should be covered by the company. The whole job of replacing this part was about 15 minutes and $75 in parts. I have photos of the part being removed with its stripped center and the new one being installed.

Do not waste your money on the washer, and do not bother getting Home Depot extended warranty. Both are useless. LG doesn't want to know anything after only 1 year. Extended warranty states that it is not a covered service, so why the extended warranty? Just to get more money out of you. Washer has defect - seal gets damaged and they state it is not a mechanical problem, even though water is leaking due to the seal hole. The rep told me the seal just keeps the door closed, but the washer is working fine. The seal gets damaged due to a manufacture defect. They know this and so it is not covered. I searched many reviews and complaints are all the same. Do not bother purchasing LG products. You get no help in correcting their defects!

I purchased an LG WT5101HV washer and an LG DLEX5101V dryer from Sears Hometown Store a year ago. First mistake was getting an LG product. Second mistake was getting it from Sears. I purchased these items on 5/06/12. All was fine until I read there was a recall on the washer. I called the number provided and Sears sent A&E to do the needed repair for the recall. December 31 at 4pm, the idiot showed up and said, "I don't know anything about a recall." He made several calls and said he needed to order parts and would be back in two weeks. I had called and found out it was a software update that was needed. Two weeks later, he returned and put in a new display circuit board. Now just to be clear, I had had no problems with the washing machine. It worked great. That was the last time it ever worked properly.
He was back several times, said it had the wrong software, and basically totally ruined a perfectly good machine. The last time he was here, he complained how he didn't get paid much and basically had a pity party about his job. I had had enough, called LG, went through hours of BS on the phone and finally got them to understand I was done dealing with Sears. They scheduled another tech to come out and look at it. Keith was great. He knew what he was doing and told me that LG was not the brand to buy and why. He was here another three times and talked directly to LG each time. They finally then agreed to send me a new one. It was a slightly different model. A week later, the new machine arrived. I really thought the problem was solved. Was I ever mistaken! Three days later, the dryer started making a knocking noise in the motor. It doesn't do it all the time. Tech came out, tore the dryer apart, and found the dryer vent (inside the machine) was no longer attached to the blower. He fixed that and said it was good. Next load, the knocking was back, obviously coming from the motor.
Tech was back again, said he didn't know what it was and to call again and ask for a different tech that might know more than he does. Of course now, the new washer is not working correctly. If I use the add water feature, it fills to the top and now fills to the top in the rinse cycle. I now have a repair appointment scheduled for Keith to come and see the new washer and banging dryer. This is the 11th service call since 12-31-12. My dogs wag their tails at Keith now. Maybe we should ask him to stay for dinner. He is here more than my kids! This is not funny. I spent over $2,000 for these worthless machines. I won't even go into how rude LG is. A supervisor just hung up on me yesterday when I asked a simple question. Being I have purchases several other appliances made by LG, I am sure I will be writing more.

I'm happy to say that all has been resolved. After finding out about the recall due to the unbalancing issue, LG sent a repairman out and he replaced a board that he said would address the issue of the UE error code and would probably address the OE code as well. After running a cycle, we got no UE code but the machine would still not spin and drain. He looked again as it was running and noticed that a connection to the drain pump had come loose probably due to the high spin mode. Needless to say, I'm very happy now.

Repairman found defect in the tub ring causing the rips. Neither LG nor Best Buy will allow me to return it for a different model. I'm stuck with an 800-dollar washer that can't clean and needs a repair at 2 months old. I will never buy LG product again.

Three months after buying the set, the washer started to bang and leak. We bought the extended warranty but it did no good. When I told them it sounded like the bearings were going out in it, they told me it doesn't have bearings and we caused it to leak by not keeping it clean, so I wipe it almost every time and it still leaks. They were here 3 times and never did anything about it. Our warranty is up and we're stuck with a lemon. We bought it from Sears. I don't think we'll be shopping there anymore. Please don't buy LG washers and listen to all these people about the other appliances. None of us have money to waste on these products. Shame on LG, and Sears for selling LG.

We have both a front load washer and dryer (Model WM0642H). I've been reading the letters being sent for over an hour. I wish I had known about this site before I purchased any LG anything! The pump went out on our washer last fall. At that time, it was under the extended warranty. The tech came out and diagnosed the problem and ordered the part. In the meantime, we were going to the laundromat, at a cost of about $60 each time. I called the repair company after a week. They were still waiting for approval from the pump/repair - another $60 trip to the laundromat. I called after another week - still waiting, another $60 out the door.
Finally, I called HHGregg for help. They contacted LG and finally got the ball rolling. Now, about 6-7 months later, the pump is gone again. How much money and how many trips to the laundromat will it take this time? My husband says he will just fix it himself this time, but you can get no help from LG. They will not give a customer the schematic.
After reading all these letters, and from our experiences, we will never give another dollar to LG. Their products are not "cheap" dollar wise, but certainly are cheaply made. We are looking at refrigerators and were considering an LG. That will not happen! I can't believe I fell for the hype. LG appliances are rated among the best. Makes you wonder just how they got those ratings. It does not appear they were from actual customers!

I bought an LG washer model number WT5001C in April 2012. One year, the water pump is so close to the tub that the tub knocked the water pump out of place causing it to cut into the water outlet. This resulted in water being released all over the floor. In trying to get this repaired, I discovered that LG parts are not stocked here in Dallas but at one distributor. And the best case lead time is 7 days to get the new water pump.

I bought LG washer/dryer from Best Buy and had the 5-year service protection plan. I have had leaking problem and had Best Buy out two times. Two weeks ago, the washer started leaking. I found plastic pieces in cleanout. I contacted LG, who referred me to A&E Factory Service (nationwide). I called and they returned my call on a Monday. I then made appointment for Thursday. They called that day sick, so I had to make another appointment a week later (earliest and now 10 days after speaking with them). I called LG, who referred me to a local company. They came out the following Monday (now over one week). They turned the washer on and said the lifetime warranty stainless steel drum is warped. I said it is hard to bend them, so was it an original problem? They said it caused damage to seal.
After paying them for diagnostic trip, he said I have to pay for all labor and any other part, except wash drum. Okay, he approved using washer if I was okay with small leaking. Appointment was set for three days later. I used the washer and it turned into a gusher. He came back that evening and said that drum ripped front gasket. He will pay for that. Meantime, I called LG. They said that drum suddenly becoming warped is not likely, but it could happen. I said it has been this way since we had it. It has always been loud and it vibrated more than our old Maytag but we had to leave it at the old house on sale of house. They said they will cover drum, but nothing else. Tech came out on Thursday (this past) and opened up washer. (Finally, he actually opened to look at all of it.) The drum was so warped that it cut open (gouged) a hole in the outer plastic drum (front section). It had a circular gouge around the almost complete perimeter. He told me that part is no longer available because washer was over 7 years old. It was made in 2005 and I bought in 2006. He told me to buy a new washer.
After he left, I called LG who said that part can be bought as an aftermarket part but they do not make the original part anymore. Swell. They gave me names of two parts suppliers. Part is $100 but has to be mailed at an oversize part ($50). I called service company to tell them it is available. They called and placed an order. On Friday, next day, part still was not shipped to them. I cancelled service (now estimated to be over $400) and bought a new Whirlpool set. LG refused to take ownership of problem that was caused by a lifetime part and they admitted that it was likely like that from beginning, but would not say 100%. They're out. They told me I should have noticed something not right, even though I had Best Buy out two times. I called Best Buy and they told me their service is a plan not a warranty. If there was a lifetime warranty issue, they would have had LG fix it, not them.
Now my problem went on for two weeks with no conclusion, other than me cancelling service and throwing that piece of junk out. The company I called recommended the Whirlpool because it is US made. They said the biggest problem with LG is that it is all Korean or Chinese made and parts are difficult to come by. No kidding. Manufacturer is only obligated for 7 years per them and LG. If you want your machine to last more than 7 years and you paid big bucks for it, look for something other than LG. They will not back up their products in any way feasible. I understand warranties but when a lifetime-warrantied product is the culprit of a major problem, don't blame the customer for not knowing it was an issue, even though a service tech they recommend doesn't catch it either.

Original manual says, "Do not wash or spin water proof clothes." Literature Update: "Do not wash or spin any item labeled or known to be water-proof or water-resistant, even if the product care label on the item permits machine washing. Failure to follow these instructions could result in bodily injury, severe damage to your laundry, your washer and/or property damage as a result of abnormal vibration of the washer. Examples of water-proof or water-resistant items include certain mattress pads, mattress covers, rain gear, camping gear, skiing apparel, outdoor gear and similar items."
I contacted LG and they informed me that it is all legal and there is nothing they are going to do to help me wash my water resistant clothing. Of course, this is after speaking with several reps and getting the runaround, playing stupid, not understanding that water proof and water resistant are different, and outright telling me that this is all in the original manual. I had to email a copy of the page in question for LG rep to tell me that yes, they have changed specs on the washer but they are legally allowed to change it and there is nothing I can do about it. Specs are supposedly listed and changed on LG website and it is all legal to change it after sale of a product. I have read the whole manual and LG rep has pointed me to the exact page they claimed at first this information was to be found.

I opened the machine during the wash cycle, and the water was consistently cold while the water in the sink by the machine is very hot. The technician from the store where I purchased the machine came out and found it working correctly; however, he also agreed that the water would not get hot. I called LG and discovered that the CW in the model number stands for cold water. In other words, this machine is designed to use lukewarm or cold water. That’s strange! I thought hot water was helpful in the washing process. I am now doing battle to exchange this ridiculously designed machine for one that will actually clean my clothing, and I won't give up until I have a replacement. No one in the appliance store understood what CW meant. They thought the W was for white in color. Good grief! By the way, the dryer isn't wonderful either.

LG Washer WT5001CW - We purchased the washer and dryer from Home Depot two years ago. In September 2011, I had already called the "useless" 800 number three times to complain that the washer kept unbalancing during spin and gave us the UE signal. Each time they claimed that we were not distributing the clothes correctly, that we needed to wash like items, or that we needed to use a different cycle.
We use our machine down in basement. The timer is an estimate of time remaining, meaning you need to guess when the machine completes the wash. I asked if we could increase the volume of the end of cycle "tune" even with the selector to the highest volume. The answer was no. My wife has trouble walking the stairs. So without the loud completion cycle signal and the "guessing" of completion time, she just sets the upstairs egg timer to estimate time plus 10 minutes. It still does not help her and she makes many unnecessary stair trips.
We like the old AM/FM radio. With other washers, there was no interference with the radio. With this washer, we just turn off the radio during wash cycles because of the electrical interference (yes, we can actually leave the radio on to tell us when the washer cycle is finished, but you can get a bad headache). When I asked the 800 number if this is normal, they said all digital machines make this interference. That's not true! We had a Maytag computer (or digital) machine for years and never had that problem.
After all my calls about the unbalance issue, we got a recall letter in the mail. Remember that the 800 number told us that we were not distributing the clothes correctly. Now the recall fix is to stop the UE problem. Apparently, one or more machines just flew apart that initiated the recall. I had to make at least 3 phone calls to the 800 number and then got transferred to the LG "Executive" group just to get a technician to come to "upgrade" our washer for the recall issue. The first scheduled date, the tech called off sick and I was called midday after taking a vacation day that he would not come to the house. I then asked for a Saturday appointment, which the Executive group arranged. On that Saturday morning, the technician called and said that he could not come. We finally got the LG tech (the one that was sick) to come on a weekday with another vacation day for me. It took him about 10 minutes to plug in a mini-computer and do the upgrade. He did some tests and said it was ready.
While he was there, I asked about some small black pieces that were appearing in the wash water and in our clothing. He showed in the bottom of the tub a small reservoir (after removing cap) that had a buildup of excess detergent. He said we needed to use HE, which we read in the manual and had been using since day 1. Then he said that we were using too much detergent; we said that we were using the recommended on the detergent bottle directions but he said that was too much. I got the manual and showed him that the LG washer manual did not state anything about how much detergent to use. He said to try what he recommended. We did.
One month later, in January 2013, my wife noted that the washer was spinning with 1 minute on timer. She waited and waited for 10 minutes. The machine kept spinning and spinning. The washer never did this before the upgrade. This happened several times. The last time, it occurred at the 20 minutes on the timer (at 20 minutes for 10 minutes). We started turning the washer off when it occurred. I called the 800 number and asked for an explanation. They said that they would submit my question and someone will get back to me. I am waiting.
Also, the black pieces on the clothing and wash water are back. The reservoir is clean! I asked the 800 number how to fix this problem. They will submit my question and someone will get back to me.
We had a Sears Lady Kenmore and a Maytag washer. Each lasted for almost 15 years with minor problems. I had this piece of crap for less than two years and it is horrible. We paid so much money for it. I actually had one of the 800 number people tell me that "these are delicate machines and needed to be operated precisely to have them perform well." If they are that delicate, they should not be placed on the market!

We bought a beautiful looking top loading LG washer and dryer from Sears in Eureka, California in September 2011 for our second home in Humboldt County. We didn't purchase an extended warranty - although looking back, we should have done so. Because the appliances are installed in a second home (to this date, April 2013), they have been used about 12 times total.
Suddenly, during a visit to this second home in mid-February, the dryer quit drying; there was no heat at all. We did the trouble-shooting with LG Customer Service to no avail. Then we contacted Sears to arrange for a repair. We returned to the home at the end of March, and the repairman came to the house. His analysis showed that the heating element needs to be replaced, which he had to order.
As the repairman was leaving, he told us that he is about the only one in the area who will "tackle" fixing LG appliances because they are so poorly made. He mentioned that our washer is probably on a recall list. Sure enough, the washer - Serial Number (WT5001CW) is on the LG recall list. So now, I am attempting to make sure that the "only repairman" in the whole area who will "touch" LG appliances is prepared and scheduled to come to our second home when we can schedule ourselves to be there and can fix both appliances!
It is hard to believe that these appliances are so poorly made, that they both are broken after having been used a handful of times! They look great but apparently are pieces of crap; and they cost a lot of money. What is the matter with these corporations and their quality control? Do these people really think I will ever buy another LG appliance again? And is it really worth the (certainly temporary) health of their bottom line to continue to sell these shoddy products? And what else do disgruntled customers do? They tell everyone they know about their negative experience with these products. Shame on LG!

We had purchased the appliances through Best Buy and were able to cover some of those repairs under the extended warranty. All the appliances are long out of warranty now.
Last year, we found that there was an internal leak in the washing machine causing the rear left housing to rust completely through which resulted in a flooded laundry area every time the machine was running. Now the freezer/refrigerator stopped working (again). I have not yet contacted LG as I don't expect them to actually do anything about these issues. The dryer is still running as far as I know. Both the installer and I spoke with LG, that tried to blame it on a water pressure problem. There is no water pressure issue here. The installer stated the new machine is defective. The installers removed the new defective machine and put back the old defective machine. Incredible. Whatever I try adjusting the feet (no easy task, let me tell you), making sure the machine is stable by pushing the dryer up against it, wedging it against the sink, or adjusting and re-adjusting the load (because the machine stops and tells you to), it doesn't work. I had a Maytag for 13 years with not an ounce of bother, but this machine has been a headache. I usually have to wash the clothes twice because it doesn't spin well; not only due to the balance error message on the front panel, but also because it just doesn't spin fast or very hard the way the Maytag did.
Sears have sent technicians out, time and again, but who wants to spend half the day waiting at home for a service call? Not me. Isn't that defeating the objective of a world that wants less time spent in the laundry room? I'm going to suffer through the rest of its years and feeling annoyed at it. I will then replace it with my favorite: a Maytag. Sigh. Now, I'm about to go reset it so that it will attempt a spin cycle with my quilt, but I know that bed cover will come out of the machine too wet for my liking, and I'll have to put it out in the sun for some time before I can even attempt to dry it. Our front load LG washer began giving us problems 8 months from purchase. I called LG twice and they recommended unplugging the unit to reset the computer. The machine would work after waiting 6-8 hrs. Eventually, that did not work and repair was needed. The repair men discover two tears in the rubber gasket that were caused by metal clips below that had 1) sharp edges and 2) placed too near the gasket. Over the year of use, the tears occurred and dripped onto the thermistor. It was a manufacturing/quality issue, even supported by the repair man and discussed with their technician at LG who agreed and "took notes." LG refused to pay for the repair because it was outside the warranty period. They were disrespectful on the phone and emailing exchange kept sticking to company line of "outside the warranty period." Good companies stick by their workmanship. I believe they can make good machines. Mine was a lemon and they couldn't care less.

We purchased the LG front loading washing machine four years ago. It does vibrate but not like a Bronco. It does smell sometimes but we bleach out the machine once a month or so. It does not clean our clothes very well. I have to soak my shirts and pants in a water/ammonia solution before putting them in the washer to get a start on cleaning them properly. I guess if we use high-powered stink detergent, we would not notice a not quite clean smell of freshly laundered clothes, but we don't want artificial stink on our clothes. When my mother sells her house, I'm going to trade our inadequate machine for her 15-year old Maytag top loader with the suds saver. We would warn anyone about purchasing this washer. I had no idea that so many people had those amounts of problems with this product. Wish we'd read here first. It figures that LG is a Republican supporter, lots of big stink to cover up even bigger stink.

In August 2011, I bought an LG top load washer (WT5001CW) at Sears as well as a dryer for a total price of $1,850. Less than one year later, the lid on the washer locked. When the technician opened up the top panel, I noticed that the metal was scorched - like in fire. The entire board had to be replaced. I've also noticed a foul smell ever since I've had the washer. Recently, I was notified of a recall due to some balancing problem. I was also sent a sticker advising me not to wash or spin any item known to be waterproof or water resistant, even if the label on the item permits machine washing. I was under the impression this warning would only be in effect until the recall problem was taken care of.
Oh no, the technician who came out made sure he told me never to wash things like bathmats or mattress covers that may have rubber/vinyl backing. I asked what am I to do since bathmats for one thing need frequent washing. He told me, "Lady, go to the laundromat." I'm 75 years old on a fixed income and the money I paid for these appliances was hard to come by. I've had many different washing machines in my lifetime, but never encountered anything like this. I wish the LG CEO's office was nearby so I could dump this piece of crap in front of his desk. Life is not so good right now.

We noticed, when using the washer, that several items of clothing came out with small holes in them. At first I thought it might be due to the clothing. But it has gotten worse. Now items like new jeans, t-shirts and pants are experiencing holes. So I felt all around the drum and didn't see any sharp items that would snag the clothes. But then I looked at the drum design. The drum is supported by three brackets. Each of these brackets have small drain holes about 1/8" high and 3/4" long on each side. Two of these brackets are located not near the dimpled holes in the drum. But the third bracket is located about 1/4' from the dimples.
In looking at the cutouts in the brackets, I noted that they had sharp edges. I wet a heavy cloth and pushed it in between the dimples and the slot, simulating centrifugal force of a rotating drum. At times the cloth was snagged by the bracket. Therefore, I believe that there is a design deficiency. I checked the newer models at Sears and the slot on the brackets have been relocated away from the drum dimples. Please advise how do I get LG to correct this situation and compensate for lost clothes.

We bought an LG Front loading washer and dryer from Sears about 1 1/2 years ago. We immediately encountered sporadic occurrences of what looks like oil streaks from the washer. We called Sears and they sent someone out, who replaced the tub and some other items, and also told us to use a different kind of detergent. A few months and a few ruined items of clothing later, we called Sears again and they sent someone out who replaced a bunch of stuff again. They then sold us an extended warranty on the washer.
We thought Sears sold it to us, but it turns out we bought it from LG. So the problem has continued and we've called LG, who is telling us that our complaint doesn't fall under the terms of the warranty, that we are complaining about "cosmetic" outcomes of the laundry. Crazy us, expecting a brand new washer to clean our clothes and not leave grease streaks. They have been horrible to work with. They are offering to refund the warranty which, of course, allows them to walk away from us completely. I guess we'll need to try and get Sears back involved, as technically we brought this to their attention under the original warranty, and it never was resolved. If you are considering buying LG, I hope you have better luck than we've had. I will never buy another product that says LG on it.

We purchased an LG front load washer at Home Depot. Only after it was installed could we, and did we, learn that it vibrates incredibly loud on a firm modern floor regardless of the load and balance, and due to its very high spin speed. Home Depot and LG refuse to exchange it for a top loader. A Home Depot representative admitted that they intentionally do not mention that problem to potential purchasers. LG does not even respond to our many forms of contact. They both claim that the machine is working as designed, which can only mean that the design is defective. In our opinion, no one should purchase an LG front loader washer. We have had to resort to ridiculous and only partially successful steps to dampen the vibration and noise, such as cramming pool noodles around the washer (see attached photo).

This is a follow-up to a review written on January 22, 2013 regarding my LG washer. I did hear back from the resolutions department at LG who extended a prorated offer for my unrepairable washer. Whereas I feel the offer is fair, it is a year late in coming! The offer will allow me to purchase another machine. Trust me, it won't be another LG despite their good ratings on various websites. I am still out the hundreds of dollars in labor costs, plus the cost of having my clothes laundered at a local dry cleaners. As I said in my remarks on the 22nd, I do consider myself a pretty savvy shopper by checking both company and customer reviews. But this time was way off the mark. I hope and pray that my next choice in a washer, this time a front loader by Electrolux, is a wiser decision and that I won't be on a first name basis with my local repairman for a long, long time!

I purchased the LG matching washer and dryer (Model #WT5101HV) in June of 2011. While still under warranty, we had an issue with error messages appearing and the tub not spinning completely. LG sent one of their repairmen out to change the "bolt" in the drum. After a few months, the same issue occurred. This time, I was subjected to a service tech telling me how to load a washer properly. Really? I'm 56. I’ve been doing laundry longer than the repairman telling me how to sort and load my washer! Loads were not the problem! Fast forward to December of 2012 and I had the same issue with error messages and washer not spinning. I have had no less than 7 repairmen here to "fix" the issue, another bolt, a new motor, one part of the motherboard, and now a second part of the motherboard. Is it fixed? No!
I have made numerous calls to LG who graciously, if you can call it that, extended my warranty. So I was not paying for parts, only labor. I'm out $529 in labor costs to date, yet my washer is still broken! The last repairman who left 20 minutes ago had not even reached his next call when I was called to tell him it's not fixed! I made another call to Executive Services (what a misnomer!). Executive Services has now turned my case over to "Resolution Dept." It will take them (Resolution Dept.) two days to get the paperwork so they can review my case. I have no idea what they will do, but whatever it is, I hope it includes a service that will take my mountain of clothes, sheets, and towels that have been mounting since Dec. 11 and wash them for me! I consider myself a pretty savvy shopper, but this time, I drove off the cliff! I will never purchase another LG, and I will advise anyone looking for future appliances to avoid the LG brand. They do not stand behind their products and could use some lessons in proper customer service. Buy anything else. Just don't buy LG.

We bought a front loading washer and dryer. About three years later, the washer is shaking so hard it sounds as if it will tear down the walls and cave in our floor. The washer shakes so hard, it moves across the floor knocking into other items as well as the dryer. We called LG and were told it is no longer under warranty, but shaking was due to an unstable floor. I told her the floor has not changed, only the washing machine's performance. The representative stated that all of the washers shake a little, this was to be expected. I asked if there was a part that could be replaced to stabilize the machine. She said no, there was no such part.
A few days later, I looked up an appliance repair company that works on LG appliances in our area. The repairman told me LG had this problem and it just needed the struts replaced. So we had them replaced. It was better, but not as stable as before, not like any of the previous washers I'd had throughout my life. I trusted LG to be an upgrade in quality. It was not. After only six months, it is as bad or worse than before the struts were replaced.
Additionally, we've put heavy duty pads underneath. It just walks right off the pads, tipping over as if it will fall on its side. This washer is worse than the old wringer type with the incredible noise and the bouncing and moving. My husband and I have to restrain it or turn if off. And like some of the other owners, it does have a stinky, moldy smell. Mold is not normal in a machine designed to clean. I've been leaving the door open after each wash, spraying inside the drum with Lysol or Windex.
Cleaning clothes is an effort toward good hygiene. Moldy water defeats that purpose. Yes, standing water creates mold, but what is wrong with a design that causes mold to proliferate like this. Perhaps Maytag, Kenmore, or GE could teach the engineers at LG something about designing for public use. If this were normal, as the rep would have us believe, it would seem appropriate to include these features in the sales material - LG Front loading washer has a normal smell of mold in the machine which naturally transfer to your clothes. Another very normal feature that astounds LG consumers is the washer's ability to mimic a wild bucking bronco, leaping and jumping out of its stall.
It is a relatively expensive purchase. Consumers expect quality to equal cost to equate value. I don't want to feel like I have been duped and bought a piece of trash. LG has changed my opinion of its products - washer & dryer, refrigerator, microwave, internet TV - I can't trust them no more! We believed that your "Life is Good" motto included us, not just you.

Our washer/dryer set (WM2016) was purchased from Sears about 4 years ago. My wife has always complained about the stench in the tub. Then last week, she was complaining about a smell (different). The next night, I came home from work and she said it was smelling again. When I got to the laundry room, the smoke alarm started sounding and I could not see the washer. After getting in and shutting it off, the drum was on fire which was quickly extinguished. I pulled the washer out and unplugged it. At that point, I needed to remove the top to make sure the fire was out, which it was. The next morning, I took the machine apart to see what happened to our 4-year-old washer.
It seems that LG made a part inside of the plastic drum that is made from aluminum that was not treated by any means. It corroded, causing the drum to contact the outer drum. Had we not been home, we could have lost everything. I will not purchase anything LG produces from here out. When contacted, they could care less as we have your money!

In the last year, we have been using only the low spin with only using light loads. This seems to elevate the washer moving a foot, however, it now moves about a foot with all three. The low spin, only putting in half load or less with the pads under the feet as well. There are other problems too. The washer will leak from the front. The washer will sometimes not get the soap into the drum. We have tried all of these options because the set cost $3,200.00, which is ridiculous considering our problems. LG Washing Machine Front Loading WM235OH*C - mold in unit: As the other 899 complaints, I purchased my Washer and Dryer Set 5/9/2011. From day one, the detergent dispenser had standing water and the tub would get a foul odor. I read the owner’s manual and it stated that both were common. The foul odor could be removed with a HE washing machine cleaner and it should be used monthly. It is also recommended to leave the door ajar. I also called "customer service" and they confirmed that both were "normal". I started noticing mold spots on the detergent dispenser tray and would clean it and run an extra load of bleach through the machine. My clothes were not cleaning properly and the smell never went away.
On 12.13.12, I noticed more mold spots so this time I had my husband completely take the top off the machine and remove the dispenser tray. The tray and plastic gasket that allows the detergent to flow into the machine were covered in solid black mold. I called LG immediately and offered to forward pictures. The rep I spoke to, was very empathic and stated that LG will back their product and either replace or refund the machine. She also promised that someone from the Executive Team would call me the next morning to handle this issue quickly for me. No one called me. At 3:00 pm, I finally called them back and this time my phone conversation was very different - no one was going to do anything. They could send out a repair tech but that would cost me and most likely find nothing wrong since standing water and odor is "normal". They stated the mold came from not using HE detergent and not cleaning the machine. I told her, “I am not stupid, of course I followed the owner’s manual not to mention all the stickers on the machine that say only use HE detergent.”
The commercials on TV indicate to only use HE detergent for HE machines and to avoid the smell from the tub, use the HE cleanser monthly. Duh. Really. If I was that stupid, I wouldn’t be calling anyone. I told them I would be more than happy to forward the pictures of the mold and articles on the health risks that black mold offers. She stated that LG would not replace, refund, or promise repair on the machine. I agree with all the other 899 people. Do not buy LG. Do not throw away money and very important - do not place your health at risk

The end result was $700 to repair the drum and motor and replace the plastic drum around the inner drum, which of course has no warranty, and about 5 hours labor to tear it all apart. However, this issue was such that I was the only person strong enough to make it happen and even then, I would have to close several times over before I could get it to latch. After about four or five visits, changing boards, door locks, and finally a new door, it was fixed. Within the past few weeks, the washer now has suddenly stopped powering on when the button is pressed. Since these devices come with a whopping one year warranty, it's now out of that coverage.
If I unplug and plug back in, a spark will appear, every time, and it may or may not work for a load of laundry. I contacted LG and they had me do a hard reset, power off, hold the power button, plug back in. After establishing the hard reset was probably not going to do anything, they gave me the names of the local businesses which were authorized to work on the machine. Repairman has been here a total of two times. He was great but can only do what LG will authorize. My washer since this summer has quit adding hot water when I request a hot water wash. The water is usually lukewarm at best. I was talking with an LG rep, then a supervisor and received no satisfaction. They state I should run my laundry room sink to get the hot water flowing because it's colder out now. The last time I checked, my plumbing was indoors. That also defeats the purpose of buying a water efficient washing machine. I also did not have trouble with hot water last winter.
So I did what they said. Today, I disconnected the hot water from the washer because I do not have a wash basin. My washer is also in the same room as the hot water heater. I then run the water into a bucket. In 10 seconds the water was plenty hot. I hooked the hose back up to my washer, filled it on hot setting. The water was 28 C, not hot. I even shut off the cold tap and tried to refill on hot setting. Guess what? It would not fill until I turned the cold back on. What? The cold needs to be on when asking for hot?
I could see if that is some sort of energy saving feature to use less hot water, but the washer used to put out plain hot water that I like to use with my kitchen rags.I don't know what to do now. I was always such a fan of LG products. I own 5 in total but being a loyal customer seems to mean nothing to LG. In the end, they said that's just the way the machine works. That is not the case. They told me to plug it into a different outlet. I did this. That did not fix issue. I told rep that I smelled a burning smell coming from unit. The rep told me to unplug unit. I immediately unplugged unit. Rep stated that since the unit was a bit over warranty, I would have to send my original receipt to them to be approved for an extended warranty.
I faxed LG the documents they requested. As we waited days to see if this warranty was going to be approved, on Sunday, 11/4/12, my husband went down to basement to see if washer would turn on. We found out that the main power source in the washer had caught on fire and this wasn't the first time since 10/31/12. We immediately called LG to report this & they seemed uninterested in helping us. This call center was in Asia.
We also took many pictures. This rep told us we needed to contact LG on Monday to find out what to do next. On Monday, we called & talked to a rep in the USA by the name of Adrianne **, a supposed supervisor for LG. She wasn't helpful whatsoever and she was extremely rude. She made us re-fax and email another copy of original sales receipt to call us a few hours later to tell us that we were not approved for the extended warranty. Then this stupid rep told us to go to Best Buy to see if they could do anything for us, which we did that same night, which was tonight. The Best Buy manager pretty much laughed (not at us) as they were shocked LG told us to go back to them. Now, we are in a situation of being without a washer. I tried calling to order parts and the answer that I keep getting from repair places is good luck getting parts from LG! This is ridiculous! I will never recommend or buy anything LG again!

I have bought this LG Intello 6.5 Kg washing machine (Product T7066MN) in 2009 for Rs 12,000, and it is just out of warranty, and it has stopped working. I reported this to customer care on 1/9/2012, and the engineer reported a major repair worth Rs 4,000. My concern is the machine is just out of warranty and has such major parts under repair. Is this the quality of LG products? My previous machines I bought had minimum life before coming to repair (6 years). What is the guarantee that if I spend Rs 4,000 now, which is 1/3 the original cost, it will solve all of the problems? I would not recommend LG products to anyone. They just have good looks and no quality.

(Re: LG Tromm WM1841CW) I moved in with my GF, leaving my old cheap top load behind for the new tenant and thinking hey, why not, the GF has an expensive LG; more expensive, a lot more expensive, so it must be better, right? Wrong! On top of the musty odors, I swear I am gaining rather than losing stains on my clothing. These look like grease stains. Certain materials seem more prone, such as cottons, especially softer cottons. LG suggests all this ** about cleaning the door seal, door, and tub at minimum daily. What a load of **! What, the consumer has to fix LG's bad design problems? And this thing cost more than a thousand. My 50-dollar secondhand washer never had these problems and got things clean. Save your money and you mind and buy yourself a good ol’ cheap top loader. Going forward, I will hand fill (over fill) the tub with super-hot water and pout in a couple cups of bleach and let it wash for a few minutes before letting it sit for a few hours. As for the laundry, I will see about over filling it with water to get the wash actually clean.

I bought an LG W2101HW and a matching dyer in February 2010. First, the washer ran great with no problems, and then July 2012, error code comes up for heating element. Warranty is out. I find that only two repair companies will even touch them - out of fifty or more repair places. Here comes the great part - it needs diagnosis to determine the cause of the problem that the machine tells you with the code. They won't to charge you, but then if it is stacked, you have to help them unstack it. Great when you’re disabled then find out you don't need to after all! So you call them and they tell you it will take a week to ten days. He comes out and reads the same code. That will be $79.00. When we fix it, it will be fifty more plus part, which is fifty dollars.
We have to order the part and that will take five days. They come back more than week later. We got the wrong part and needed to order new one. A week goes by and no one calls. I give them another four days and no one calls (forgot about you). They will come the next week. They only go by zip code, so it’s always a Thursday. Repairman brings part and installs part (no unstacking), I pay the money, and everything is fine. Two weeks later, it’s the same thing again. I called repair and no one ever called back. More than a month later, still no call. I bought a new washer and dryer (GE). I will never ever have an LG. Nothing, the company does nothing for you when called, only a stupid email, so sorry. What a joke. Never buy LG washer or dyer; you will be sorry. I paid over $1,600 for both.

I got my LG washer in 08/09. It's now 3 to 4 years old. I had paid good money for this thing. It started banging and we thought it was the bearings. We tested it to check if it was the bearings that seemed to be the problem. We ordered the parts costing to some $80. My husband and son, who do small engine repair work, took everything apart to install them. Well, once the bucket was removed we found out that the T-bracket that is attached to the drum was also completely rotted. Seriously, they gave warranty for the bucket but not for the bracket. So even though it says, "Stainless steel bucket and warranted," the bracket is not. Avoid LG at all costs! Waste of my money!

I do that and use the recommended amount of detergent to wash the clothes and still, they come out with black and gray streaks. I contacted LG to get a replacement (I have been repairing appliances for 20+ years professionally, I know what I am doing); they absolutely refused. They said, "Thank you for contacting LG Electronics. I am delighted to hear from you as our valued customer and I will be glad to answer your concern. I apologize for the inconvenience you're having. Drum motor such as stator, rotor and hall sensor have a seven year warranty from the date of purchase."
Yes, the motor is still in warranty as I checked based on the serial number you provided. The washer has a one year warranty for parts and labor from the date of purchase but has exclusion for warranty of other parts as stated in the warranty page in the owners manual. For LG technicians: diagnosis - $89, minor repair - $150 + tax & parts, major repair - $225 + tax and parts. I apologize I don't have the information for the rate fee for our authorized service technician. They have different rate scheme than our own LG technicians. I hope I was able to help you with your concern. If you have other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again either via email or by calling our customer service division at 800-243-0000 at your convenience. Thank you for choosing LG!"
I called Albert and told him I was a qualified appliance repair person, and it only took me 10 minutes to diagnose and remove the offending part and to please just send me the part. He absolutely refused. In order to get it replaced under warranty, I would have to spend $239 in labor. The part is available to me wholesale for $73.11 and it will take me 5 minutes to replace it. Of course, I will bite the bullet and buy the part myself. What gripes me is that the part is under warranty but I cannot get the part. LG has figured out a way to screw me out of the warranty they supposedly provide. Even worse, the replacement part is new and improved with metal splines in it, proving LG knew there was a problem and are refusing to do anything about it. I called LG’s number for the smart diagnostics service and was asked what error code was displayed. When I told them that no codes were shown, they said they could not run the smart diagnostics program. Apparently, this feature is another of LG's false advertising ploys. They then gave me the name of the repair service in my city. I called this company and was told that they do not service any LG products. I have a relative who has operated an appliance repair business for over 30 years and he told me he will not touch LG products.
I have not been happy with the machine since it was new. It runs the motor more than 50% longer than the old non-energy efficient machine it replaced. It may save a little water as at times the clothes have dry spots where they were never in the water. However, water is cheap in my city, but electricity is not cheap. So this machine overall costs more to run than the old machine. I sure wish I had found this site before purchasing this product. I will not buy LG again, that is for certain.

This is the first LG product I have owned. After owning a washer/dryer set for 10 years with no problems made by Frigidaire, the dryer stopped heating. I gave in and decided it was time to upgrade my set (did a lot of shopping around). I purchased the set on 1/28/2012 (WT5001CW - Top load washer & DLE5001W-Electric Dryer) from HHGregg, cost $1701.58. On July 14th of 2012, the washer just stopped mid cycle with no power (clothes still wet inside it). One servicer in the state of KY services LG and could only get to it on 7/25. Power board was fried (order parts will be 3-5 business days to get and install because LG won't overnight the parts unless I paid for it). So now, we are looking at 8/1/2012 for a repair (the washer has a foul mildew odor since it has been filled with water since 7/14).
With two young kids and a husband who works outdoors, not doing laundry isn't an option; so I have to pay a laundromat to get my clothes done since sitting for hours isn't feasible with a 20-month-old. LG was awful and couldn't care less if their product is bad and couldn't care less about a client's situation (I was lied to four times about finding another servicer to get to it faster and finally told that I would have to go with the first one). I was offered a laundry reimbursement on 7/26 (after at least 6 phone calls last week), but that was just a maybe. Once the washer is fixed, I can submit the claim for that and wait and see. I am disappointed in the service and product that LG offers. I was so excited to get this new pair and use them, but now I wish I had spent the extra money and gone Whirlpool or Maytag. I will never own another LG product again. Maybe I should sell this pair and cut my losses and move on.

LG dryer SN 611KWBY00437, model number DLE5977S and LG washer SN 612KWFN02411, model number WM2277HS/01 - We purchased this set of front loaders for obvious reasons, or so we thought. We wanted something efficient, low cost to run and something big enough to handle the capacity of clothing that 3 teenage girls throw at you and 2 teenage boys, then of course, mine and my husband's along with being able to wash a comforter for a king size bed and actually get them clean. This is not what we got with the LG front loaders at all! No matter how often we use the tub clean, the washer still stinks! I've washed the rubber gasket inside and out thinking something is lodged in the gasket making it stink, but nope, it's the tub or better yet, what's under the tub.
They that claim it's a buildup of soap and fabric softener, so I asked the LG representative how I could get rid of this horrible smell that wreaks through my home while washing a load of laundry and how do I get it to stop ruining my clothes. I've had to throw away towels and clothes because the washer makes my clothes stink and the stink won't come out! She said that is not something they're obligated to fix, which really turned my attitude from pleasant to obvious anger and asked her "If anything goes wrong with your products, your obligation to fix because you damn sure aren't doing a good job or there would not be so many complaints!" Needless to say, my family must deal with the problems of the washer.
Now for the dryer, out of the blue the dryer sounded like I put a few bags of rocks inside. It was so loud I just knew the drum of the dryer was going to explode! So, I called Sears to have them come and take a look at it and fix it. He said, "I hear the noise and understand what you are talking about, but I can't find where the problem would be at." Drum belt, rollers or split drum. He felt bad about it and told me this has been a frequent, continuing problem with the LG front loaders and I know the guy felt bad because he didn't even charge me. He works for Sears and we know how they are about that $75 service call. So now, I'm back on the phone with LG and they told me to do what I've already done and that was to call Sears for repair.
When I told her I already did that and went through all of that, she said if the repairman doesn't find a problem, then the dryer is fine and should be working properly. I turned it on for her and she was just so sure I put something in it for dramatic purposes! I explained to LG, a minimum of 10 calls, that the washer stinks and is ruining my clothes and that my dryer is obnoxiously loud, takes 1 hour and 39 minutes to dry clothes, which is the maximum time you can put on this particular dryer and the clothes still may be damp. She said I was probably overloading the drums. If 6 towels is overloading front loaders (washer and dryer), then the quality of LG is of very, very poor quality. With so many people having these very same complaints, LG should take pride in their customers and recall these items.
When you spend $1,900 for a matching washer/dryer front loaders that claim to be efficient, but it takes over an hour to dry clothes, it doesn't sound very efficient to me. Needless to say, if anyone ever asks me about LG washers and dryers, I will not only tell them to run, but to sprint like their butt is on fire because they will be wasting their money. The washer tub stinks, which makes your clothes stink. No fix. The dryer is horribly loud, doesn't dry clothes very well at all. Finally, the belt and/or rollers on the dryer tub broke and the heating element went out. An expensive fix and a very common problem with this product. Do serious research when you're ready to purchase a new washer and dryer. No way would I ever recommend LG products.

As soon as our warranty was up, all 3 agitators fell off - inside a wash and most of the items were shredded to bits. The appliance store we purchased them at told us we were SOL, and to call a repair man. Due to unemployment and lack of funds, we were forced to try and fix it ourselves. We finally found a waterproof glue which holds them on for a few months but they continue to fall off and we have to keep sticking them back on.

I've never heard of anything like this happening to a washing machine. My husband is on his way now to the home improvement store for more glue, as the load of towels he just ran was making the loud booming sound of it happening yet again. We also get the funky smell, mostly on towels, and I have to keep wiping the inside of the glass door to keep the mold from growing, but I can deal with that. I will never buy an LG product ever again. Did I say never? I mean it too.

First my front loading dryer drum cracked. Clothes keep getting stuck in it and they rip. Next, the front loading washing machine is mildew smelling and the rubber seal has got holes in it and water runs into the motor compartment and the door leaks. The tray you put the soap into has broken and soap runs down the outside of the washer. Our clothes get caught in the seal and get ripped. The clothes don't come out clean and sometimes smell. This set is a piece of junk! I will never buy another set of LG products from Home Depot again!

As a follow-up, after contacting my local TV station, they came out to film my washer in action. They then contacted LG and told them the review would run at 10:00 pm unless they received a reply from LG (up to this point LG ignored them). Wow, LG called him ASAP and offered a full refund! Push, push, push! I filed a complaint with BBB, LG and local news. Next step was a class action lawsuit. Home Depot is backing me in this refund. Hang in there and do not give up. I worked 24 hours every week to get this refund and to let them know they are not superior.

We too made the mistake of purchasing an LG front loading washer and dryer from Best Buy. After just 15 months, the circuit board on the dryer went out. The technician that came out told us it was probably because of the vibrations from the washer which the dryer was stacked on top of. The salesperson at Home Depot, who sold us the stacking package, never indicated that this could create a problem.
Lucky for us that when I called LG, they agreed to extend our warranty enough to cover the bad circuit board. They would not refund the $85 I spent having a technician come to my house to diagnose the original problem. I have read a lot of complaints about LG washers and dryers and I cannot believe that no consumer groups or the consumer protection agency of our government have not jumped all over this. A dryer used under normal conditions should work for years without any of the types of major problems that are being noted all over the internet. I, for one, will never buy an appliance from Best Buy nor another LG appliance.

LG Life's Good? LG - Laundry's Grubby - Just like everyone else, I am incredibly frustrated with my top-loading LG WT4801CW clothes washer (purchased from Home Depot). I spend more time and money redoing many loads of clothes because they just do not get clean and sometimes a streak of dirt is left on the clothes, so back to rewashing the same small load of clothes again and again. (There goes the water economy function of the washer down the drain). And my washer is also starting to smell (great). Based on everyone's reviews, the machine should be breaking soon and at that point, I will give it the boot out of my laundry room.

We purchased an LG front loading washer, WM2101H, almost 3 years ago. I thought the bad smells from the washer was our water (we have hard public well water). Reading the reviews, I can see I was mistaken. Just recently our washer stopped spinning. We called out a repairman who told us that is would cost $850 to repair and oh, by the way, only $205 is covered under warranty. It wasn't just one thing. It was the seal that broke which caused the motor to get wet? I don't remember exactly the chain of events. I was in stun mode when I talked to the repairman. He said that the washer does really bad with hard water and water softener. Funny, they never told us that when we bought the thing. I'm pretty upset! We only paid less than $800 for the washer to begin with. I will never buy anything LG again!

After about 11 months of having to wash clothes 3 to 4 times just to get them clean and the problem getting worse, I contacted LG’s customer service about my washer not cleaning properly along with clothing having a musty smell and having clothing torn apart in the machine. Even when using bleach on the bright white setting, the clothing still comes out dirty. The rep said they would have someone come out Monday morning to look at the LG front load washer (WM3360HWCA). Over two weeks later, I still have not had any contact or visit from service company A. I called back to LG about the no-show with the first service company. The rep apologized for the failure of the third-party service company and offered two other service companies for me to contact and get the issue resolved. My wife contacted service company B, only to have them refuse to work on my LG washer.
My wife then contacted service company C and scheduled an appointment. At 3:00 pm, on the day of that appointment, service company C called to say their technician went home for the day and they would have to reschedule. I immediately contacted LG about this issue since two vacation days have been used to get this warranty work done. LG's response was basically they are sorry for the issue, but the only thing they could do was to have service company C reschedule. This would require wasting a third day off from work. Although my warranty says they have an option to replace my machine, Valerie from the executive department said that was not an option. She basically implied that I could not read my warranty and that the warranty did not state the item could be replaced. I asked for her supervisor and after holding several minutes, I was transferred to someone's voicemail who stated they would call back within 48 hours.
I hung up and my wife, sensing my frustration with LG, called back. She got to Glenn in the executive department and he informed her that all LG would be willing to do was reschedule the appointment with service company C, which would result in using another 2 vacation days (one for the diagnosis and one for repairs according to service company C). After my wife had become frustrated with LG's lack of consideration of our time, she handed me the phone back. After some additional conversation with Glenn, it was determined that LG was not willing to do anything to fix the problem without causing further inconvenience to our family. I asked if service company C could do a Saturday appointment since they messed up to start with and was told no! I then asked for a service company that could do a Saturday appointment and was told that none of LG’s service providers work on the weekends. I then asked LG to find a service provider that could work on the weekend due to the situation and was informed that LG would not do that.
I then asked for me to be able to find a local contractor to repair my machine and be reimbursed by LG for the work. Again, I was told it was very unlikely LG would do this since the contractor must agree to LG's fee schedule and I would have to complete all this additional work before they would consider it. I am now being left with no option other than to take more time off work to resolve this issue. I wished I had seen some of the comments regarding LG washers before buying, but they just did not exist at the time I purchased my machine. The comments now probably explain why no one carries this machine any longer and cannot be found at any of my local retail stores or their websites. I must say that my matching LG gas dryer is no better than my washer as the dry sensor shuts off the machine with the clothes soaking wet. These two machines, along with another issue I had with LG’s customer service, have convinced me never to purchase another LG item again. This is truly a company where the buyer should beware. Shop for other manufacturers.

I bought a front loader (LG True Balance) in December 2011. My clothes don’t seem to get cleaned, I watched it run its cycle and it doesn't run like the sales lady said, it will go clockwise 4 tumbles then hesitate, goes counter clockwise 4 times and hesitate and then continues like that the whole wash cycle. It spends more time not doing anything than tumbling. My daughter bought a Frigidaire and I watched that run and it runs like the sales lady said mine should run. It tumbles on both directions but for about 1 minute and only stops for a bit nothing, like mine.

Unhappy at first, there wasn't sufficient water filling the machine. The result was that the clothes had a musty smell, they were simply not clean. The solution was quite simple; however, it may not be found in their user book. Beneath the top of the washer, there is an upright screw mounted on top of one of the sensors. There is only one screw that may be turned, hence, you cannot go wrong on this. Take a Phillips head screwdriver and turn the screw 1/2 turn clockwise. This tells the water sensor to allow in more water. Caution: Do not turn it a full turn or you will have too much water.
Now I'm happy. There is ample water in the machine and the clothes come out refreshingly clean. In this day, when everyone is going green, LG thought it prudent to just dampen your clothes and thereby save 3 gallons of water during each load. The result of going green, caused clothes to come out of the wash still soiled and smelly. Wash these a few times more and they smell even worse. LG should wise up. Important note: The top of the washer should not be pried off as it will bend the retaining metal. Pull the machine out, unscrew the holding screws in the back top of the lid. Then pull the lid back towards the rear about 1", the lid may then be lifted up. The LG front-loading washer works wonders with ample water. Adjust the water sensor and enjoy clean clothes.

I have had my LG washer model number WW3360HWCA for 11 months. After 8 months, my whites have taken on a grey color. LG sent a repair man out that told me I needed to use sanitary wash. Okay 1 hour and 46 minutes later, the whites were still grey. The repair man also told me I could only load the machine 1/2 full. The manual says pack load lightly but be able to close door. If I have to wash for 1 hour and 46 minutes with a 1/2 load, no way.
He then told me to use the steam wash on my regular clothes (dress shirts, shorts, t-shirts and etc.). He informed me that the machine was actually able to split the water molecules on the steam mode. I said there was no way it could do this, if so, it would be a real blast! He said yes it really does (wrong by the way). He also told me not to worry about the 1 hour and 46 minute wash cycle because the machine uses a series of magnets that store energy to run the machine (wrong again). He also told me to use only 1 tablespoon of detergent.
I called LG to let them know about their "factory trained technician". The rep told me I actually need to use 2 tablespoons of detergent that is why my whites are grey. The real problem is the amount of water, it is too low. It cannot wash properly, it cannot rinse properly therefore we have dirty smelly clothes. Why do you think all the new products are coming on the market for fresh laundry, i.e. Downy Unstopables? Our dirty clothes stink! As a company LG sucks. Forget living good, how about light grey or like gunk?

I could hardly get my finger inside of it and out came globs of black mold. I continue to run bleach through the machine as well as the fresheners that are recommended for front load washers. The odor still remains. I want my top load washer back, so I can return to Tide Mountain Spring detergent. My family was always complimented on how fresh our clothing smelled and I miss that! Shame on you, LG. You should be having a serious recall of all of these machines!

1) "Super-duper energy efficiency" is achieved by hard tumbling. I always set up this machine on the lowest possible setting for soil and spinning, yet it ruined a whole load of clothes. Everything made of knitted fabric (read: all T-shirts and all short-sleeve shirts) after one single washing cycle is stretched to the point that it is no longer usable, precisely - became 2 times wider and 2 times shorter. Also, I have 2 regular shirts ruined - the machine tears off buttons with pieces of fabric, and just tears apart fine fabric. I want to underline again - it happened on the lowest soil and spin setting. So, basically, if you are interested in "Delicate" cycle - it does not exist. All other cycles have no value, since you will get your clothes ruined anyway.
The only thing the machine could be usable - washing jeans and soldier uniforms. Towels and linens are okay too, but forget about washing your clothes, any knitted and fine fabric.
2) Because it is "high energy efficiency" machine, you cannot choose water temperature. Well, nominally you can, but in practice it tries to use cold water. In most of the settings except the last one, you will get cold water in the washing tank. The highest possible setting, "hot/warm" still uses cold water from the tap, and the machine does not have a water heater. So, to get hot water only you have to dance around it, and turn cold water tap off, then on.
3) "Water efficiency" feature does not exist - it has a couple of settings like "half tank" and "full tank". So, if you want to wash a couple of jeans or 4 shirts, you will get a half tank of water, and the tank is huge.
Overall - taking into account the price, the "efficiency", and the amount of good clothes I have spoiled by the machine - this is the worst purchase in my life.

We purchased a brand new LG washer and dryer from Home Depot in November 2011. As soon as we started using the washer, we noticed water was leaking from the bottom of the machine, which several months later caused heavy damage to the drywall and created black mold. Initially we contacted LG in November and a technician was sent to our home three times; however, they couldn't identify the problem.
First, we were told that the sensors had to be replaced and then the machines had to be replaced. However, LG doesn't replace products, they try to fix it. It wasn't until June 2012 that we noticed there was mold on our baseboard. This has caused major stress on us since we have a newborn. We called an environmental company to come and inspect the wall and test the air in our home, which cost us $450, and LG still refuses to replace the washer and dryer.
The problem with the dryer is, if you place comforters or a heavy load, it shuts off without finishing the complete dry cycle. I constantly have to check the washer for leaks and turn on the dryer every time it shuts off. I cannot understand how brand new machines cause so much trouble. We explained this to LG and they said they can only send a technician to correct the problem. So far, the technician has come twice this month and it still hasn't been fixed. I cannot understand how this company cannot replace defective machines. This is horrible customer service. We are disappointed and will never recommend nor purchase any LG products again.

I bought my LG washer, model #WM2016CW, on 5/17/2008. I have noticed all along that the clothes have this odor to them and then it transfers to the dryer but I kept doing the cleaning cycle and it worked for about a week then back to that smell. I tried every HE detergent I could find but the same results. But today was a whole new problem. I put the laundry in and went about doing my cleaning. I went down to the laundry room to change the clothes into the dryer and there was a mess on the floor; it was glass. I thought maybe a light broke but this was thick clear glass. I could not believe what I saw. The glass front of the washer burst into pieces and I had chunks of glass everywhere. The strange thing is that the washer had finished its cycle and the clothes were all done so this must have happened after the clothes finished. There was not a drop of water anywhere. I am still in shock that this happened but with LG anything can happen.
I am told I will have to pay for a service man plus parts and LG will not give me any answers. They told me to call Sears, the place where I purchased it, and go through them. Sears gave me the runaround also. They told me that I would have to pay $75 just for a person to come out to look at it and then it could cost up to $350 depending on the cause. The whole door may have to be replaced and they have to try to find the cause which it sounds like they don't have a clue. So the washer is sitting in the laundry room and I am out looking for a new washer. I do not trust this washer at all after the explosion. I am writing my Attorney General and letting him know about this and many other things about LG products.
I also own an LG gas stove. It is almost two years old and I have had LG people replacing the glass window. This has been ongoing since I bought the stove. There is a leak in the glass oven door and it just keeps fogging up and food particles get in between the glass door and oven door. What a piece of junk that cost me $1100. LG refuses to do anything about it so my husband and I keep taking the glass off and cleaning it and it is not an easy thing to do. I will never buy another LG product and I will tell everyone I know not to buy LG. They sent one guy over and he put the glass back wrong. All I can say is that LG is getting a bad reputation and if they don't get it right, then they will soon be out of business. I just finished reading 800 reviews of LG ovens and they were not good at all; most of them real bad. What is wrong with the LG company? Are they that stupid not to see what people are saying about their product? I will try to find a new washer made in the good old USA.

I purchased the LG WT5101HW Wave Series ultra large capacity high efficiency top load washer with LED display, ColdWash technology, 1100 RPM, energy star compliant on January 1, 2011 after spending hours on Consumer Reports looking for the best machine. I purchased the machine from Appliance Connection and even though they encouraged me to purchase the extended warranty, I did not. I now have an EO error that will not go away. I checked on the LG website and the only remedy was to remove the hose and look for blockages and to check the filter. I did check the hose, there was no kinking and no blockage. There is no filter in the drain line, the only filters are in the hot and cold water supply lines which have nothing to do with water draining from the machine.
The only way to get the machine to drain is to have the line lower than the tub, which is not feasible because I do not want the dirty water draining on the floor or for that matter, anywhere other than the drain line. When the error occurred, the machine had a load of towels and we had to wring the towels out and remove the water manually by dipping it out with a small bucket. This took a great deal of time and energy. The LG representative told me that I need a service call and the company that performs the maintenance is 1.5 hours from where I live and cannot respond until Friday between 8 and noon.
This is very frustrating to have an issue that may or may not be corrected before the weekend because the technician may or may not have the parts. I also checked the company that is to respond to the service call and they have had several negative comments from former customers. I have now read the comments on this site and am apprehensive as to whether I will have a satisfactory outcome. I am also contacting Consumer Reports since I relied on their evaluation of this washer. I also purchased a dryer and I did get a 4-year extended warranty, which I will probably need. I had a Maytag washer that is now being used by my son and his college roommates. I may ask for it back!

We purchased an LG front load washer (LG WM2688HNM) and dryer in June 2007 from Best Buy. We had constant problems with the washer leaking. We had technicians out almost monthly to try and find the source of the leak without any success. After about five months of complaining to LG’s customer service, they did have Best Buy give us a replacement in June of 2008. Unfortunately, the new machine did the same thing, but not quite as often and more like every two or three months. Again, the technicians cannot find where the leak is occurring from.
It does not seem to make any difference how much detergent or bleach one uses. About two years ago the machine started dancing across the floor and vibrating items off the shelves in the laundry room. The technician put pads under the washer that are supposed to keep it in place and reduce the vibrations, but to no avail. It just keeps moving from one side of the laundry room to the other side, so we have to put it back in place until the next load.
Oh, by the way, the dryer does not work much better than the washer. It goes through the dry cycle (and it doesn’t seem to matter which one) and the clothes are still damp if not wet. It doesn’t seem to matter if one uses the wrinkle guard or not. One technician suggested that with LG, one needed to use normal if you were doing permanent press, clothes, etc., but they still don’t get fully dried. Based on our experience, I would have to say do not buy LG products. As it stands at this point, I don’t think I would take an LG product if they were to give it to me.

I've sent pictures of the loads that come out in big knots! The machine is high efficiency so it should be economical, but when it goes UE all the time, you can never leave it alone to do a load. It will keep draining and filling up to try to even itself. It's very wasteful of water! This is not a floor leveling problem at all. It's the machine's problem. Some loads just all float to the top and never get pulled down through the water, which leaves spots on clothing and not overall good cleaning. It's just a lemon!

I called LG and they gave me a hard time, but I demanded something so they allowed me to email the receipt from HHGregg and they will consider sending someone to look at the rust. They decided no and instead, suggested I purchase another plan that covers this problem. I didn't realize we needed a plan that protects poor quality metal!

In a nut shell, LG is designing washing machines that are designed strictly to garner a low Energy Star rating and they don't function as a consumer has every right to expect them to. Main example: set washer to cotton/ normal. Choose hot wash. What I end up with is an 84-degree water in the tub when the hot water heater at 120 degrees is only 2 feet away. I know for certain that it is engineered to pull cold water in with the hot as it fills the tub. Set on hot wash, you cannot even defeat the machine by turning off the cold water. It stops and won't run until you turn it back on. The main factor, I come to find out, in a washing machine’s total energy used includes the energy it takes to heat the water it uses. If the hot cycle uses less hot water from the tank, and the warm cycle is not warm, the overall energy consumption is low. It gets a great Energy Star rating. But then what the consumer end up with for their 620 dollars in this case is a washing machine that is designed to be a bad washing machine.
But I think you see the point that the consumer has the right to expect that when they want to wash hot, they get hot, want warm, and get warm and so on. And the washer without a doubt under-performs because of it. It also won't get clothes clean unless you choose "water plus". The manual states: "Use this option for superior results.” But, of course, we know when being tested for Energy Star, they are not using water plus. Clearly, LG is marketing an Energy Star rating, not a washing machine. They have with purpose designed a machine to be marketable and deceived the buyer into believing the machine works as effectively as other machines with worse Energy Star numbers.
I have been to the wall with LG over this. After five service calls and an LG service man and an independent one, they say they hear the same complaint all the time. When asking the service technician and at every level of customer service, including what they call executive services, why it pulls cold water into the hot cycle, their answer is that it’s designed that way and that’s just the way it is. A description read to me by Valerie in executive services about how the hot cycle works was a blatant, probable lie. I’m going to try and get it in writing or get it to read it to me again and record it. She, of course, could do nothing but deflect questions about why water ends up at 84 degrees in the tub with 120 degrees in the hot water tank.
When I told her I was absolutely not satisfied with her answers and ask to talk to someone else, I was told in 2 different calls on the matter that she was the final authority and that was the end of what LG would have to say about it. I would think that proving a machine was designed around the Energy Star rating for marketing purposes without regard for the resulting machine actually qualifying as a washing machine would make a good class action. And this low energy consumption design is across the board on the LG machine.
Narrow it down to machines of similar tub size as my WM2140C and you can clearly see the absurdly low yearly energy use numbers. Washing machines are not rocket science. There is no magic in their motors or circuits to have the actual machine use dramatically less energy than its competitors. The savings is coming completely from it using less hot water and that of course is not something in any sales literature or the manual. I have the right to expect something marketed as a washing machine to allow me to wash whites and other things I decide that need hot water in actual hot water. By the way, the warm cycle is 58 degrees. In whose world is 84 degrees hot and 58 degrees warm?
The machine is 10 months old and still under warranty until mid-May. I perceived the hot water difference early on, but didn’t initially complain about it because I gave the benefit of the doubt as to whether it would function at those temperatures, which I now see clearly that it does not. Then, it took months of service calls to solve other problems with the machine. Pressure sensor problems would continually shut the machine down mid cycle. Turning the machine off and back on cleared the code, but you’d have to start the cycle over again and hope it worked. It became a real problem to go to the basement expecting the machine to be done only to find it shut down. They replaced the same pressure sensor 3 times and it still had the problem. Finally, they replaced it again along with the whole wiring loom and the main electronic board before it worked. Then, I was back to the temp issue. I had no reason to think that manufacturers could play these kinds of games with the Energy Star rating. I bought the machine based largely on the perception that LG was a reputable manufacturer because I was very happy with an LG HD TV I bought 4 years before.

I purchased an LG washing machine on November 26, 2011. The technician from LG came and put it to function by November 28, 2011. On my 1st use on December 4, 2011, I was shocked to discover a considerable leakage of water underneath the washing machine. I called for repair. First, they adjoined a torn part, then on the second call, they changed the host with leakage with another one.
I discovered later in early January 2012 that some considerable number of clothes came out completely dry without being washed. I called for repair. The technician came and said that he cleared something that blocked the way for water passage. I discovered that I'm still suffering of the same problem. I sat in front of the washing machine to watch it, then I found that no water was visible from the window and clothes came out with detergents. They came and changed the water balance. Frankly speaking, I lost count of how many times they would come and make repairs in a defective machine that doesn't function.
I simply need the value of paid money. I need them to change the defective machine with another one that's functioning well, as I have lost patience with them over the last 6 months. I care about the image of the company, knowing that I also have other LG appliances at home, and I don't want to lose confidence in LG as a brand name. Please, if you are not concerned with my complaint, direct me to the one in charge to resolve my problem. Thank you in advance for your kind cooperation.

I purchased an LG WM1832CW from Best Buy on 02/09/2004, had it replaced on 02/19/2004. On 02/22/2004 the door was leaking and on 8/05/2004 the door was leaking, continued to leak on & off. A technician showed us what to do, and waiting around for service all the time sucks - my time is valuable. On 07/11/09, water’s not draining, and the sensor was replaced two different times.
Then about a year ago, it sounded like a jet plane so I paid the service guy $75.00 to say it's the bearing embedded in the drum & will cost $400.00 to $500.00. He said use it as long as I can and junk it. One last ditch effort, I called LG today, spoke to Tyrone, he transferred me to Sears, and they said they would warrant it. It would cost me $319.99, if they will only cover up to $500.00. Does anyone have an idea on total cost of labor on a job like this? Sears said the parts will cost $290.98 + tax.
I am very uncertain about this, any thoughts on this? Honestly, after reading all these complaints, there should be a recall. If LG wants a good reputation, you think they would back up their product, LG now makes Kenmore, those machines used to last 30+ years. I am most certain that will no longer be the case.

LG should be thoroughly ashamed that they have released this piece of junk in the public domain. The washer does not use enough water to wash properly and leaves clothes stinking and gross. The thing vibrates like crazy on spin cycles, it sounds like it is going to rip itself apart half the time. Yes, you can use less detergent and leave the door open, and clean the thing with bleach every week, but your clothes still end up stinking. As punishment, I think the designers of (and those who tested) this travesty of engineering should be forced to use it for a year so they can see what everyone is talking about. I will never buy another LG product because of this or recommend them to anyone. The company deserves to go under for such a horrible transgression.

After one month, I noticed that clothes and shoes smelled. Simple physics: you can't wash dirty clothes in less water and less detergent. LG 2350 front load washer does not rinse out the detergent from the clothes nor cleans them that well. Then the dryer dries that smell into the clothes. You perspire and your business colleagues say, “What’s that smell?” and you have to explain. Buy new clothes and shoes. I work far away from home that my skin got so irritated because of the detergent issue in the clothes. I got rashes and itched deep into my skin, leaving scars. The Best Buy rep came after I complained so much. He suggested we put clean load in wash on sanitary. The washer started sudding up with no detergent added and I have it on video. I requested assistance with my washing machine on the 15th of March. Nobody pitched, on Friday, I phoned again and was informed that one technician was on leave. She would send somebody on Monday. Nobody came. I phoned again on the 22nd of March. She said she will ask the technician to come on Friday. That Thursday afternoon, I received an SMS saying that they would be at my house. Unfortunately, I was in town to collect my daughter and asked them to be there 16:10. When I got home at 16:00, they left a note saying they were at my house and I was not there. The next morning, I received an email saying that they would be coming on that Friday.
I requested them to please come at 13:00 when I am home from school. The lady replied that the technician will be there before 13:00. I told her again that I am teaching and I'm not allowed to just leave. I will notify her if I leave earlier, which I did. Then Louis came and told me the rubber was perished, that he does not have it in stock but will order it. It should be here the next week. I kindly requested him to notify me on the day that he will be coming, in the morning, to say whether he would be coming in the morning or afternoon. He promised me that he would phone me an hour before he comes.
Today, he sent me an SMS 30 minutes before he stopped at my house. I had no idea that he was planning on coming today, so I was in the gym at the point when he sent an SMS. I did not hear the SMS as there is loud music in the gym. I am totally dissatisfied that he cannot respect me as a paying customer and have the decency to ensure that I did receive the message and that he cannot respect my wish to know in advance which day he will be coming. We are on holiday and I might have been at the beach with the kids, then I would also not here an SMS. I feel it is unfair of him to expect of me to sit and wait at the house until he one day decides he is coming to fix my machine. Today is the 26th of March and my machine is still not fixed.

LG customer service has not been helpful, stating we should have called earlier with our complaints. I had to beg for a supervisor, who said he would try to get it covered to be seen by a technician by sending our complaint to a consultant. We are in the process of doing that currently. I am very disappointed with this machine from the get go.

We had no idea what a nightmare we would be having after purchasing our LG Top Loading Washing Machine. The very first problem was a significant leak that was repaired in a timely manner. After that, I had a problem getting the soap out of my clothes and called the toll free number. I was told to use only 3 tablespoons of HE detergent, I was only using 1 tablespoon and still could not get the soap out of our clothes. I was taking our towels outdoors and hanging them from our clothesline and hosing them off until they were freer of suds. Finally, I called a repairman and was informed to use only 1 to 1/2 teaspoon of soap, but I still have to use a lot of water to get our laundry somewhat soap free. Our water usage has gone up over a 1,000 gallons a month.
Things went along for a while, until I started noticing small shards of a foreign material stuck in our towels or in our pockets. I was baffled as to where these little hard pieces were coming from, and about that time, the washer was starting to make a strange noise during the spin cycle. I called the repairman again and we discovered that the drum was rubbing against the fiberglass liner. Those small shards in our laundry were coming from the washer tearing itself apart.
I agreed that this particular washer was to be replaced. I wanted my money back minus the months of usage, but was told that was not an option. Finally, in the later part of November 2011, 6 months after our initial purchase, we received a replacement machine from LG. All was fine for a while, until the bleach dispenser stopped emptying completely. So, I called the repairman again and we received a new dispenser. Well, that one did not work any better and another repairman determined that there was a problem with the control panel and the washer drum needed to be replaced, because it was not in balance.
It has been less than one year since we made our original washing machine purchase and it has been one problem after another. The fact that this type of machine does not properly rinse laundry and requires a lot of extra water to do so, is irritating. I always have to stay alert because the machine goes out of balance a lot and I have to leave the wet laundry and try to get the machine going again. In my opinion, this machine is poorly designed and will never work properly. Life is 'not' good at LG, and we'll never purchase another one of their products.

Who is at blame, in customers being led to believe that LG makes wonderful washing machines? I agree that we all need to bring about a class action lawsuit against them. I purchased my set of washer and dryer model WM2501H on black Friday of 2010. One month later, the repair man came out and replaced the main board. Everything is fine, until the load tries to balance. This can take 45 minutes and maybe more. You are supposed to be able to do large loads. I try 2 blankets, 1 pair of pants, 2 towels and a pair of underwear. The repair people said you should mix loads, so I did. This is not always possible for the two of us. After waiting 45 minutes, my husband stopped the machine and took out one blanket and it still took 10 minutes to balance. The repair people don't tell you how your machine will age much faster by wasting all this energy and wear and tear on the machine. So much for a lower electric bill. I will never buy anything made by LG again.

We also bought the top load model 4801 and it was defective out of the box. It shredded (snagged) several items of clothing (shirts, sheets, etc.). LG said they were only obligated to repair it, meaning take it apart and replace the drum assembly, etc. I said that wasn't acceptable. The service tech, even though he saw and documented the damaged items, could not find a specific problem with the unit. Because of that, they refused to pay for any damages their machine caused, instead stating there is nothing wrong with the machine. I argued until I was blue in the face. They would not budge. They would not let me talk to someone higher up. They gave me bogus phone numbers and e-mail addresses of people to whom I could escalate my complaint (the e-mails were returned as undeliverable and the phone numbers were not valid).
Thank goodness Home Depot gave us a replacement machine against the wishes of LG. Pray that you never need service for any LG product or you will regret it from the start. I like to refer to them as the "axe murderers of customer service", the worst I have ever experienced.

Wow, had I known they sell the same crap in Canada as elsewhere and service is no better here, I never would have purchased this had I known. Anyway, I replaced the hull sensor thanks to the internet and saved hundreds on a service call. By the way, it is a major defect with these machines. Even though that was done, I still had the same LE code. I checked the internet again and found that the water pump is also an issue with drain tube clogging or pump malfunctioning. Also, the reason for the smell is that pump is below the tub, which means it never drains completely and leaves water and junk in pump. Hence, the smell. The only way to completely empty water from tub is to remove drain plug on tubing (coin access from front) and draining it manually or go through the speed cycle. Anyway, for expensive machines, they are not built to last and customer service is horrible. Shame on LG!

It seems that we need to have someone out here all the time. We just had it repaired because the computer needed to be reset. We have had it serviced 4 times. Now beyond leaking, it stops mid-cycle often so I have to sit next to the machine while washing clothes to restart it and finish cycles. Beyond that, sometimes it gets stuck at 9 minutes left and starts spinning and stops spinning over and over again. In 2010, I began to have electronic issues with the machine flashing the code "le". I had 3 service calls for this problem (August, September, and December of 2010). The service tech would check the machine and circuit board for each call. This cost me $68.50 per visit. The same electronic issue code, "le", began again in 2011.
I have had 2 service calls (March and December). The same "fix it" job checked the circuit board. Again, the cost was $68.50 per visit. Now, in 2012, I have had 2 more service calls (February and March) for the same electronic issue, which cost me $68.50 and $119.00 respectively, for labor fees, to have the service tech do a full load of laundry! I was told that I needed to put heavier loads of laundry? After the tech left, I did a heavy load of laundry, and the machine again flashed the same electronic code, "le"!
I have another service call tomorrow. They will now replace the circuit board (for around $300.00), but they told me that it might be another problem, like the motor. The total cost is around $461.50. LG does not produce good products. My advice to anyone looking at this brand is the old saying, "buyers, beware!”. Shop for another brand!

The service men informed us that it could no way be their problem--it had to be something we did. They also had no idea how to get rid of the smell.
We were still under warranty at the time. I had to keep taking off time from work to be here when they were here. The towels can only be used one time and they have to be washed again. I use all the right HE products. I quit using liquid Downy, thinking that was the cause of the build up.
I use the washer cleaner that Tide makes and it does no good. All these products just cost more to operate the machine. Truly, when is this product going to be taken off the market and the truth be told? I will certainly use the word of mouth to all that will listen. We have had our LG 2301HR Direct Drive Front Loading washer going on two years. First of all, when the washer starts its water loading process, the valves close so forcefully and quickly that the water pipes throughout the house clang, bang and shake. You can not only hear them but you can feel them. To make matters worse, the closing of the valves are frequent and many throughout a wash cycle. This is a major design flaw.
Secondly, I am replacing today the cold water inlet tri-valve system due to a water leak that developed in one of the valves (most likely due to the water loading process). I believe this will fix the water leak but unfortunately it will not affect the rapid shutoff process that created it. Hence, the part is only 35 bucks but that is with me doing the work and finding the problem. Too soon to be having problems with repair or replacement and I feel this solution to be only palliative.
Third, yes I, too, have the same problems with all clothing having a moldy, musky odor. This has been since day one. We have tried and are still trying ways mentioned by the other reviewers with little to no resolution. The clothes do not smell clean because of the mold problem and it is obvious some soil is remaining in the clothing. Overall, the initial price tag of the washer made it a big decision for our family. It, too, was a replacement for our older top loader that worked just fine.
We were sold on the idea that it was much more energy efficient and would pay for itself in time with the energy and water savings. LG is making inferior washing machines at the cost of our ignorance or belief that we are buying a better product. They are deemed defective presented by the problematic facts as testified by the reviewers/owners. The health issue alone (mold and mildew) should be enough for the Federal Health Dept to intervene.
What about the BBB (Better Business Bureau)? Someone getting paid off?! What happened to our rights as consumers? Our forefathers are turning over in their graves. My "seasonal allergies" have become year-round chronic and come to think of it...it has been for the last two years. Go figure.

That's the only thing that helps get the clothes clean or I have to soak them in the sink before washing them in the washer. It's supposed to be a large capacity washer but I have to keep the loads small. I've pulled out things that don't even feel wet and still smell dirty after running through a cycle. There's also rust around the place where the soap goes and chunks of rusty metal are starting to fall off into the loads. The dryer almost immediately started messing up. The lint tray had a felt-like edge around the rim that's supposed to stop lint from going outside the tray. That peeled off within a month and it doesn't stop all the lint now. It runs really hot, so if you use the auto settings it will just turn off. I have to use the time buttons to get it to stay on. It can't be run any higher than low or it will cook your clothes. When I contacted the LG company directly about the problems, I was directed to use the LG service repair. Beyond disappointed and frustrated. We are worried about the negative impact we may experience with our health with the constant mold that continues to plague the machine. After reading all the logs, something needs to be done about this problem! LG WM2233HW.

I purchased an LG washer and dryer at Sears in Overland Park, KS. I have had service out twice complaining about dirty, dingy clothes and a loud banging sound when the washer is "filling" with water.
Both times, I was told to use a high efficiency detergent and 1-2 tablespoons of detergent. I have complied. My clothes are still dirty and dingy. We have taken to soaking the whites in the sink in a Clorox solution to bring them back. I feel as though I might as well get a washboard out and do the laundry by hand.
I replaced my upright washer, which was doing a fine job, so that I could have a quiet washer. The noise is louder and the clothes are embarrassingly dirty to the point where I cannot wear them.
Nothing has changed in our laundry, same clothes, same people and same amount of wear. We do not perform any manual labor that would create unusually dirty clothes. My husband uses his washables to lie on the couch and watch television. I am a homemaker who hires out all of the dirty work. We both do workout, regularly. In theory, we are a washing machine's dream customers.
I hired a plumber to deal with the loud bang in the pipes and he told me it was the solenoid. Today, the solenoids were replaced and there is no change in the loud banging in the pipes. If anyone in the house is asleep, the washer cannot be operated because of the very loud bangs.

LG front load washer (WM0642HW) - The washer vibrates horribly when in the spin cycles! Our whole house shakes! You can hear the vibration outside the home! The floor vibrates when washer is in spin cycle! We have bought several different kinds/brands of "shock-absorbers" and installed them under each "leg" of the washer. Still no help! This is obviously a manufacturing defect. We called LG and they sent a certified LG appliance repair man to our home. All he would tell us was: "LG makes a great product and use less than half the recommended amount of detergent to control the ‘smell’.” This is my second contact to you. Do you have other complaints against LG for this same problem? LG should replace my unit. I am willing to trade down just to get rid of this vibration! I have matching dryer. Together, these appliances were $1900.00!

I purchased an LG front loader washer in 2006. We have been dealing with the smell, but more importantly the mold. You can smell it on your clothing and towels after each wash. We have tried everything possible to get rid of both. I have developed many health problems, especially respiratory, in the past 5 years. I can not believe from reading all the complaints about the mold in the washers, that nobody has done a thing about it. Mold causes very serious heath problems in humans, especially children. I don't know about you all, but I'm going to sue LG. You should too. If you're getting ill, that mold in your washer could be causing it.

Since the first week I had LG, it made my clothes smell. Despite calling LG, and having a service company come out, the smell won't go away. I have a sick person with cancer, and they cannot lay on the sheets, because it makes them nauseous. I have to take the wash to my son's house. This is totally unacceptable. I have allergies, and the smell is giving me headaches. LG needs to take this machine back, because there is something gravely wrong. The reason is it does not empty all the water out, and sits in the machine. The water gets smelly, and goes into the clothes.
To sit on the floor and empty the water after each wash, is unacceptable. Bleaching and numerous cleaning doesn't help, as long as it holds at least a gallon of water all the time. Please recall the LG front load model WM042HW/01. According to LG, this is normal, and are trying to say it is the soap/detergent that is the problem. This is not so. It is a water problem that always remains in the machine getting musty.

Out of warranty, 3 year old top of the line all stainless unit (3.7 cu. ft. capacity), now water temperature goes up to 98 F at most during all wash cycles. A Sears’ contract proved no better. The Sears tech put in a new heater unit, it made no difference. Even though the water is tepid at best, the worker from Sears says it is working fine and he sees nothing wrong with the machine until a month ago. I got nice hot water when I washed my clothes. Now, I have to settle for tepid water or cold.

I purchased an LG washer. After the warranty ran out, a tear appeared in the gasket around the washer. It seems like this is a default, this should not have happened in this small span of time. It will cost around $350 to repair plus the technician's fees. I'm very disappointed in this machine and would not recommend it to anyone. A class action law suit sounds good to me.

We bought our LG in 2007 and for two years, we started noticing black stains and black and brown moldy slime around the rubber. It's disgusting! Clothes are smelly, stained and dirty. The product does the opposite of what it is supposed to do. Also, the bleach and softener trays we don't use as there is water in there constantly that does not get flushed out. To think my babies wear these dirty clothes everyday, no wonder they have a skin problem! I tried draining the water from the pipe where the filter is and the smell of the water stinks up the whole house! Unbelievable. I'm all for a class action suit! O do where get started? ?

After using my hand me down washer that was 23 years old, we decided to purchase a brand new LG front loader. We purchased it at a Best Buy with the matching dryer in October 2011. Now February 2012, I had to have a service technician come out to repair the washer. When the washer tried to turn clockwise, it made a grinding sound not be able to spin. It did spin counterclockwise. Of course, the warranty ended three and a half months prior to this problem. The technician told me he reconnected the bolt on the inside and it should be good for a few days. He told me that he assumed that I washed large loads. Why wouldn't I wash large loads? That is why I bought a large capacity washer. Stupid assumption! Anyway, he told me it would cost $350 to replace and repair the part. As for it lasting a few more days, I put in a load of three pairs of socks and one t-shirt. It still grinds! So much for a few days. Also, Mr. technician, is three pairs of socks and one t-shirt a large load to you?

So we splurged and bought one of those washing machines with all the bells and whistles. Rust formed around the bleach dispenser after just over a year. This is completely unacceptable. It continues to grow daily and is not cosmetic to me. I have never had a washing machine rust out on me, what will this look like after 3 years? 5 years? If it lasts that long. There were some huge lawsuits back many years ago with auto manufacturers and rusting vehicles. Maybe an attorney should look into a class action suit against LG. A $1200 washing machines shouldn't rust. If they do, you should get relief from the company not the runaround.

I purchased an LG Front Load Washer (model:WM2688HWM) on 8/19/06 from Best Buy, for $1,349.99, plus pedestal for $179, 2-pack of hoses for $26.99=$1,555.98 plus $101.14 for tax. My total payment was $1,657.12. In addition, we purchased the 5 year service plan from Best Buy for $199.99. Our total investment was $1,857.11. The unit was delivered on 9/15/06. Exactly 5 years and one month after delivery and 1st use in 2006, on 10/15/2011, our machine flashed "tE" on the display, and we could not use the machine, and we were out of warranty by 1 month. An authorized LG technician was called, and he came out, ordered a new thermostat, and replaced it on 10/24/11. 3 weeks later, on 11/18/11, the machine stopped, and again flashed "tE" on the display panel. The technician was not able to come out right away, so a new thermostat was installed on 12/3/11.
On 1/31/2012, the machine flashed "tE", is not working, and again I am waiting for the Authorized Technician to come. I called LG Customer Service this morning, (1-800-243-0000). The rep I spoke to was very nice, but could only give the answers he is trained to give. I then spoke to a very nice supervisor, who was also well trained to give non-helpful answers to the consumers. My first washer lasted 22 years, and it was not an LG. I never had a service call for a thermostat problem on that washer, but did replace it once on the dryer.
At that time we were a family of 6. The children played sports. We did a lot of laundry, but the machine was made well, and I paid a fair price for a product that was predicted to last 20 years, but lasted longer. With all the laundry we did, I would have been thrilled had it lasted only 15. This LG has cost much more money. Our youngest was a senior in high school, and then left for college when we bought it, so basically I have done laundry for my husband and I, who don't get terribly dirty, and the machine was used 2 or 3 times a week.
The repair man is now here, and the new thermostat he has installed is still flashing "tE". He said he has spoken to the company, and was told that " the problem could not possibly be the 'main board', that it has to be the thermostat". He is on the phone with them now. I will pay for another service call today, but as soon as I send this email, I am going to start researching and determine what washing machines have a better service record. I have been told that LG has such great technology, but what benefit is good technology, if it cannot be incorporated into a product that will work for a reasonable length of time?

I bought an LG washer at Best Buy in 07. After less than 2 years, the gears went in the front load. I purchased an extended warranty through Best Buy and they had a service tech come out and diagnose it. They said it would be too much to fix so they replaced it. I was downgraded but I was just happy to have my washer back. That was September 09. I bought another extended warranty through Best Buy. Now, another 2 years later, it has stopped spinning and won't drain. I contacted Best Buy and they told me that my warranty expired in September 2011. They told me to contact the manufacturer. So I called LG and they said that they will not do anything. I then emailed LG to tell them that I was unhappy and I believe if you pay over a thousand dollars for a washer it should last for more than two years. They then emailed me back and told me again that there was nothing they could do about it and " thanks for choosing LG" and be blessed. That made me furious . The state of Maine has a 4-year implied warranty through the manufacturer. Don't buy anything LG . They don't stand behind their product.
