I have been a loyal Kenmore customer for over 20 yrs. Still have Kenmore stand alone freezer working well for 20 yrs and an 11 year old Kenmore refridge which is now an extra. We replaced appliances and went with the Kenmore Elite French Door Bottom Freezer, Model starting with 795. Within 1 month the water filter was bad and not dispensing water. Per tech, they said to replace the filter. I did that however the 2nd filter did the same thing within about 2-3 weeks. We have no water issue! Obviously we don't want to replace expensive filters for the rest of our lives every month. They replaced the "head" within the filter compartment but that didn't help. Both technicians said it is a common and known issue with the fridge. Bad design of the filter.

Sears now will not replace the refridge and want a tech to come out again to validate that it can't be fixed, and then maybe they will exchange or replace refridge. It works fine without a filter using the "bypass dummy filter". We specifically went with this for the "Active Stainless finish" which means if we wanted to stay with that, then it would be the same underlying mfg brand and design. Extremely disappointed they put this product out for the money spent. They will lose a long-time customer for life if this isn't resolved to my satisfaction. Don't buy!

Just bought a house and appliances were left in kitchen. The Kenmore Side-by-Side refrigerator was made in 2006. I unplugged it and took out the drawers and shelves. I started washing the parts after two days. I got through most of it but when I immersed the bottom shelf in the lukewarm water, it exploded! The explosion was traumatic. The thousands of glass fragment went in my hair and clothes and into the garbage disposal and all over the kitchen floor. I can't even go near the refrigerator! I would like to sue the company. Any suggestions?

We purchased a Kenmore Elite 30CF bottom freezer refrigerator in October 2014. We thought we were buying top of the line for many years of peace of mind. By March that refrigerator had so many problems and 6 repairs. Kenmore agreed to send a replacement in April 2015. It is now September 2015 and the second replacement refrigerator has had 4 repairs. Kenmore will not even offer an extended warranty to stand behind their product and my $3,000. Yesterday the refrigerator was repaired again. We'll see how long it lasts. All Kenmore says is that the replacement in April comes with a new 1-year warranty and to contact Sears to purchase an extended warranty. Like I want to invest more money into this piece of crap? I'll start saving that money towards its replacement which will likely be in a few short years, if that. This purchase has been such a nightmare. I do not plan on buying from Sears or Kenmore ever again in the future.

I purchased a Kenmore side by side refrigerator in 2006. In 2012 it needed to have the motor on the ice maker replaced. The same part needed to be replaced again in 2015. I understand that parts break down but this appears to be an issue for Kenmore. And of course this is an expensive part to replace. I always considered that Kenmore produced quality appliances but this experience has changed that opinion. The service person who made the repair gave excellent service.

I purchased a 4 door Kenmore fridge a year ago. I was excited to get it home and begin using it. They offered a 1-year warranty and we declined (Didn't think a $3000.00 fridge would give out in a year). However we were told information on extended warranty would get sent once it was close to our year ending. Well about a month and a half ago, we started to notice that the ice maker wasn't making enough ice. Then noticed the water was not as cold as it usually is. But we brushed this off as using it more than usual. Fast forward to a few days ago, our fridge completely stopped working.

I immediately called Sears and was told that our warranty expired 3 days ago. We had mentioned that this seemed to have gone on for some time and just never caught it (I'm not a fridge repair person). They said we would have to pay someone to come out and pay for labor and parts. We decided to call a local repair person, and he came out and told us that the computer board in the fridge is damaged and we would be looking at a minimum of $500.00 to replace just that part! So as of now, we aren't sure exactly what is wrong it and Sears said they would come out to look at it in October (today is Sep. 9th). This is so frustrating, and we weren't able to get any assistance from either company. If the computer part is damaged or broken, isn't that considered a defective part?

When we purchased our Kenmore elite refrigerator model # 795.77563600 Serial # 603KR02266 we were told it was top of the line. Little did we know what they really meant was top of the line to constantly break! The first thing to go was the fan, then the motor, then the ice maker froze solid and was leaking water all over. The glass that goes on top of the veggie pull out drawers shattered and the plastic frame of the veggie drawers cracked right in the middle! We still had warranty so everything was replaced or repaired. I refused to pay $500.00 to keep the warranty for another year and being everything had just been replaced/repaired, I didn't anticipate any more problems. Boy was I wrong! The seals around the doors cracked and tore, and the ice maker froze up. Literally it's ONE BIG PIECE OF ICE!

Then, one day I was sitting in the living room when I heard water splashing. I went to the kitchen and the water dispenser was spitting out water as if someone had a glass pressing on the water dispenser lever!! I thought the dispenser had somehow become stuck. However after I pressed it over and over trying to "unstick" it, the water didn't stop. I had to open the doors to get it to stop spurting out water! I had to leave the doors open because every time I closed them the water would start coming out again. My husband finally got home and had to disconnect the water at the back of the refrigerator! We are amazed that this thing is actually still working (keeping the temps. accurate in both freezer and refrig.) I have NEVER been so disappointed in any product as I am in Kenmore Elite!

To this day I refuse to purchase anything from Sears because of the bad service and more importantly the HORRIBLE PRODUCT we were sold! All Sears had to say was, "The only thing we can do is send our repair guys out, but you're going to have to pay for their services because you didn't purchase our service contract! NO THANK YOU!!! I'd rather save the 500 bucks and purchase a new refrig. somewhere else being that the older the appliance, the higher the price goes on the service contracts!!! What gets me even more is that I'm still paying for this overpriced piece of junk!

Not a happy camper. I have a 7 month old Kenmore Elite french door refrigerator that is a lemon. First the ice maker quit and everything on the dispenser door. Took 3 weeks for a repairman to come out yesterday. He said we would have ice soon. So I excitedly looked for an ice cube this morning to make my girls breakfast smoothies to find the whole refrigerator is not working... Only thing working is the LIGHT. Everything in the freezer is thawing. Everything in refrigerator is not cold... 45 degrees in refrigerator. I called repair number again and they want to send out another computer which was just replaced yesterday, and it will be Sept 14th before anyone can come out to try to fix. Grr... Do not buy this refrigerator. I wish I had bought a cheap $400 refrigerator instead of this $4000 one. They want to offer is a 1 yr. warranty plan in case it happens again. Unacceptable.

Bought a beautiful stainless steel refrigerator about 1 year ago. 5 days later the Sears repairman was telling me that the clicking noises I hear in the fridge are due to materials expanding and contracting as the fridge runs, and that it is a design issue and cannot be fixed. 4 months later fridge is warm because the freezer section had ice frozen hard in the air pathway that cools off the fridge so of course freezer is ice cold but the fridge below is warm as no cold air comes through.

Today, about 1 yr and 3 months later I have had to defrost the freezer 3 times so my food does not spoil in the fridge. This is my first ever review. I know not everything is perfect always but I'm very disappointed with this product. I have talked to friends and the general consensus is that the Sears name no longer means the quality of past years. I guess I'm talking about the stuff my parents had which was solid and reliable. Argh, Sears sucks these days!!!

I purchased a Kenmore Coldspot model #105 March 8th of 2014. Last year had a factory water line break and ruin my kitchen floor and drywall in the basement. I filed a claim and received a check for the damages (No problem things happen). Now 1 year and 4 months after purchase (4 months past the expiration date of the warranty) the fridge has stopped cooling. Had to take all of our food to my wife's grandma's house at 10:30 at night. Called the repair service line and they tell me since it's out of warranty it will cost me 90 dollars plus whatever parts are needed to get a technician out to the house. OR pay 40 dollars for the extended warranty and then 60 dollars every time a tech has to come out. I feel like a fridge should last AT LEAST 5-10 years right? If I'm forced to buy a replacement then I will never buy from Sears again. I'm so outraged I can barely think. What can I do?

Within 18 months, rust appeared on top level panel and across bottom freezer drawer. A company service technician reviewed the rust and had no explanation for it as it is not near a water source. Kenmore customer service refuses to repair or replace, and Michael (ID **) from Kenmore customer service refused to give contact information for a manager to further address this issue. We bought a Kenmore Elite 27.5 cu ft refrigerator 3 years ago. It stopped cooling and a service technician came out the next day and replaced the compressor. This fixed the problem for 3 days when it went bad again and we were told the new compressor was bad. We waited 10 days for the next service call when we were told that it was not the compressor, but an internal leak which was not under warranty and we needed to replace the entire unit. Our last refrigerator lasted more than 10 years without a problem. Even at 3 years, I would not have expected an epic failure that could not be repaired requiring us to purchase an entirely new unit. Disappointed in the lack of longevity of the unit. Will not buy Kenmore again.

Poor Ice Maker performance on our Kenmore model 106.5113 Refrigerator (Purchased April 21st, 2015). We are dissatisfied with the quantity of ice our new Kenmore refrigerator produces. We called Sears for a repair technician to come out and look at the unit. The technician explained the Sears no longer offers a repair service for these units and he was a third party contractor. He couldn't find anything wrong with the unit and said the new unit is not as good as the old ones. He suggested the accelerator option to force the refrigerator to make ice faster. I told him we tried that and even in accelerator mode, it only fills about one-half of the ice bin in twenty-four hours. We usually do without ice about midday.

Our last Kenmore lasted 24 yrs and until the day it died it still would fill the ice bin in less than 24 hours. I wish I would have had it repaired now instead of this piece of junk. His only advice was to use accelerator mode. This is an indoor ice maker and it is very inferior to our previous machine if that's the case. We use to fill a small ice chest with our old machine and it would be full again in a few hours. I don't ever remember this thing ever being full. I gave their service department a poor review so they called me back for a follow-up and said that Sears didn't make Kenmore anymore and I would have to contact the manufacturer. They said this was a Whirlpool unit, gave me their number. I called Whirlpool and they said they didn't make the unit either. I'm going back to the store for a refund. No wonder Sears is struggling these days. What a nightmare!

Have a 5 1/2 yr. old Kenmore Elite bottom freezer fridge. The unit developed a leak in the cooling system. Of course the warranty is expired (5 yr.). Have been without a working fridge for 6 weeks and counting. Service dept. is terrible. Have been here 6 times. Bought that extended warranty at the time of the first call to Sears to try and offset the repair cost. Have a whole different problem with that. The leak ended up burning up the compressor (which the tech. said wouldn't happen) which lead to another call to service to get the compressor fixed, which ended up being another call to service because the replacement compressor is bad too.

Have to wait days and days between appointments, with the last one originally being 13 days until my constant complaining got it lowered to a mere 7 days. Problem has escalated to sears Executive Complaint Dept. which is helping but is too little too late. I will never buy anything that has a Kenmore or Craftsman name on it again. My days of shopping at Sears is also over. Do yourself a favor and avoid Sears and their service dept. at all costs.

We purchased a Kenmore Elite 24 cu.ft. Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator model# 78043 in Feb 2015 and installed it in late April 2015 for our new kitchen renovation. We loved the appearance of the unit and the space available inside. We had been noticing for the past 3 or 4 weeks that our food was going bad and an unusual odor inside. At first, we thought we had just purchased some out of date food. We placed boxes of baking soda inside for the odor. We installed a refrigerator thermometer inside both compartments and began monitoring the temperatures. The temp range in the fridge was 43-54 degrees and the freezer was 6-20 degrees even though the settings were at the recommended 0 and 37.

Please be aware if you purchase this unit that the display only shows the setting temps, not the actual temps. Two months after being put into service, this unit has stopped cooling the refrigerator/freezer compartments adequately. In the end, all of our food had to be discarded. Initially, Sears service suggested they would replace the defective unit because it was so new, then said we had to schedule a service call 22 days from now. We purchased this item based primarily on the Kenmore name. That was obviously a mistake.

Updated on 08/19/2015: This is an update to our previous review of the fridge we purchased from Sears. The service tech finally arrived on Aug 4 after our original appt was re-scheduled for a week later. He ordered the parts which were delivered the next day. The appt for install was Aug 19. Sears called yet again to reschedule for Sept 1. In the meantime, we discovered the part they sent was the wrong part. We called today to hopefully get the right part before the rescheduled Sept 1 appointment.

This review pertains to a Kenmore Elite refrigerator Model 795.74022.410 purchased for $2500 (retail price is about $3800) at the end of November 2014. It was supposed to be an upgrade/replacement for our GE refrigerator of 19 years. After 8 months of ownership, we had defrosted the refrigerator 3 times. This is something I have not done in more than 30 years, because refrigerators are "frostless." I had noticed that the defrost drains were iced solid. There was a sheet of ice at the bottom of the refrigerator and water was dripping out the front.

A serviceman finally came to examine the unit, disassembled the inner parts of the refrigerator, and performed a defrost with a steam gun. He installed a probe to detect icing and assist the defroster. He was very professional and did a great job. This repair/modification had been his third unit this week. At the end of the service call, he tried to sell me an extended 1 year warranty for $320 (>$26/month). I felt this was a last ditch effort for Sears to profit and mitigate their risk. I expect a refrigerator to last nearly 20 years, and I don't believe this unit will make 3 years. When I replace this refrigerator, Sears won't even be a consideration. In fact, I will no longer shop at Sears for any product.

I purchased 3 Kenmore appliances in January. The refrigerator is a basic top mount freezer, lower refrigerator. It was installed in late January. For over a month the freezer has had ice buildup inside, causing the freezer door to push out. I am now on the 3rd service call--actually 4th. The first call to repair, sent a dishwasher repair person--so much for out-sourcing our calls. The gentleman who came the first time, said a part had come off the top of the freezer. Being the saving person I am, I had found and saved said part. He installed and caulked it. (Also convinced me to buy a service agreement--thank you for that.) That made it worse.

Second visit he caulked all around the edges of the freezer. Again this made it worse. The ice buildup is also causing my refrigerator to run more often. I am up to 3rd visit this am. Thus I have wasted 4 days of my time waiting upon repair. The refrigerator was on sale and cost 564.29. Each of the repair visit receipts have been for 220.32. Thus this visit exceeds the cost I paid. I have always purchased Sears appliances--and I am old--64. I am most disappointed and would like a new refrigerator.

I did not buy more than a 1 year protection plan and am quite annoyed that I had to pay over $200 to have it replaced. I wish I had seen the reviews on Sears products (specifically my Kenmore Elite refrigerator manufactured by LG) before I bought it. I completely remodeled my kitchen and filled it with Kenmore Elite products because why the Kenmore name along with Sears is supposed to be good quality, right? Wrong. Well, partly wrong. My dishwasher is excellent, as is the oven. HOWEVER, the refrigerator is a totally different story.

First, we purchased the refrigerator (Kenmore Elite model # 795.71053.011) in Apr 2011. On 20 Aug 2012 it stopped cooling. Called Sears and it was 2 days before someone could look at it. Bad compressor. 2 days later the new compressor arrives (free because of the 5-yr sealed refrigerant system warranty), but they couldn't come put it in for almost 2 WEEKS. Talk to Sears and all they want to talk about is a Master Protection Agreement. All I want to talk about is why their refrigerators only last 1 year?! I bet whoever is in charge of this program at Sears has never been without a refrigerator for 2 weeks in the summer. Anyway, that was fixed finally on 7 Sep 2012.

But then on 5 Oct 2012 it started cooling intermittently. One day the refrigerator was 30 degrees. The next day it was 4 degrees. Another 2 weeks before the technician can come look. Bad dryer and possible system contamination. Fortunately, it was fixed on the spot on 18 Oct. So, we'd been w/out a refrigerator a month that summer.

Fast forward 3 years. Early June 2015 the refrigerator stops cooling again. Not only that, but when my wife opens the in-door icemaker door to clean up the leaky mess from the melted ice, the ice crusher/dispenser parts fall out all over the floor. Add to that the fact that I noticed the door seal gasket was ripped where it folds and comes together with the other side door and I just have to say: Sears you have one heckuva product here. Of course it was about 2 weeks (18 Jun) before they could get a technician out to look at it. Bad compressor. And as of the date of this writing, they won't be out to replace it for 3 weeks without a refrigerator again. What a way to do business.

After the noise and ineffective cooling of the interior volume clearly was not going to abate I called Sears and they sent an authorized repair serviceman. After checking a few things inside the refrigerator he looked at the unit behind and below the unit.

There he saw a piece of cardboard that was pierced to fit over the coils on the condenser still in place on the condenser. This was a piece of protective cardboard that should have been removed in the manufacturing process, after assembly, by the assembler. The repairman exclaimed that this was what was causing the unit to overheat and that likely caused the refrigerator to fail. The repairs he suggested would be necessary would cost $527 dollars above and beyond the $95 service fee he charged to come to my house, totaling $8 more than I paid for the refrigerator 18 before! I spoke with a representative from Sears/Kenmore and he told me that all Sears could do was reduce the cost of repairs by 10%!

If you pay $3,000 for a refrig it should work properly. We are tempted to have them just come and pick it up.

After having this refrigerator in my brand new home I was ready to chuck it out the window. The most God awfully annoying sound you could ever imagine was coming out of this machine. An irritating high pitched intermittent whistle. But when a service man arrived it was classified as a normal sound. Yep, I said normal. Unfortunately my husband was the only one home at the time so I couldn't argue. The next day I had a second repair person who said this Kenmore refrig is known to be noisy. I called customer affairs and there was nothing they would do. I ended up calling Sears store directly and they took care of it which I am thankful for. A new Whirlpool will be sent to me by the end of the week.

We bought our Kenmore Side by side approx 7 years ago. From the start the fronts of the top two shelves cracked from just normal use. I called since it was under warranty. The person who I dealt with has no clue what I was talking about. I spent 15 minutes trying to describe which shelves I needed and what model the fridge was. When the new shelves arrived they were the wrong ones. I returned them to Sears and spoke to the salesman who handled our sale. He advised me to come back the next day and he would give me new shelves from one of the floor models. I returned the next day and he became very agitated and told me it was too early in the day and his supervisor was around. He told me to come back just before closing.

This was all too sneaky for me so we just kept the original shelves which I attempted to glue with epoxy. Didn't work. The paint on the fridge was so thin that flexible plastic refrigerator magnets were scratching the surface. The drawers frequently went askew when you pushed them back in. Last week it finally gave up the ghost and stopped working, thawing everything in the freezer section. I lost a few hundred dollars in food. The repair man told me the compressor was running hot and the thermal safeguard would shut it down at a certain temp which cause the freezer to get warmer. Cost of repairing the compressor about $600 on a several year old refrigerator which we now have to replace. Never buying a Sears product again..

Pathetic. We purchased the fridge in 2005. Kenmore Elite Cabinet Depth French Door Fridge model 795.7519240. The vegetable drawers have been a pain forever. They always come off their tracks and are awkward to put back on. No matter how careful we are, it happens. Also the cold water supply main switch control from the main board wire broke because it swings when the door opens and closes. It is in the molded insulation of the door, so a new wire had to be routed under the rubber gasket and a hole drilled through the insulation to bring the new wire to the control board (The factory wanted to sell us a new door!). Sad, sad when the fridge it replaced had been working almost 20 years without a hitch.

I purchased a Kenmore Refrigerator (Model # 795.7203) in April 2013. Exactly two years after purchase the refrigerator stopped cooling. The service tech analyzed that it is either a bad compressor or the circuit board and ordered the necessary parts to be delivered to my home via UPS. The warranty for this product (as included on page 3 of the manual) states "For ten years from the date of purchase, a defective compressor will be repaired free of charge."

However, the service department and the customer solutions department of Sears have stated that the warranty does not include the cost of labor. To me, the warranty statement is very clear and I should not have any out-of-pocket expenses to repair the faulty compressor. I have spoken with several people at Sears, but since no one will give you their last name you can never talk to the same person twice. After being transferred through four different departments I ended-up speaking with **, supposedly a manager in Customer Solutions. ** agreed with my interpretation of the warranty and assured me he would send me an email confirming the interpretation to present to the service tech. ** also gave me his Tech ID ** and gave me a phone number to contact him further if needed.

When I received the email, it simply restated the wording in the manual and did not provide the additional clarification he told me it would include. When I tried to contact ** for more information I was told that the Tech ID number ** gave me could not be used to contact him and that since there are over 500 people in the department there is no way to identify who ** is. So I had to start all over. (I had not been given a case number). One person told me I would have to contact the manufacturer of the product and assured me it wasn't Sears. However, when I called the number supplied in the manual it was Sears and that person said Sears is the manufacturer of the product through Sears Brands Management Corporation and that I would have the resolve the issue through Sears.

I have now been given a case number and there is a record of each person I have spoken to. I have most recently been told that there is no record of the parts being ordered and since I had not yet paid for the parts that they could not be ordered, and this issue cannot be discussed or resolved until there is an official record of the parts being ordered. What is the truth, and how can I get someone to honor the warranty as stated in the manual and as presented to me by the original sales person?

I purchased the Kenmore Side-by-Side in July, which was then replaced twice, one because the door was out of line and the second because the dispense water button lettering was coming off. Within two months the lettering started fading again, so a repairman came out and replaced the button. He said to make sure I did not use cleaning products on it and if it happened again, to let the company know as it was then an issue because it was coming off just by people touching it.

When I reported it in December, I was told this was natural wear and tear and I would be charged for the appt. Not for a $3,000 refrigerator. I insisted a repairman come out today, who again told me it is natural wear and tear. Nothing in the owner's manual states this and someone in Sears today admitted it is a problem with this product. In August 2013 I purchased a Kenmore Refrigerator Model 10672153111. The handle failed in March 2014 due to a stress fracture through the screw holes anchoring the top of the handle to the door. I thought the failure might be the result of the deliverymen overtightening the handle during the delivery/installation. I felt that this might have resulted in a stress-riser leading to the failure. A serviceman from Sears confirmed my diagnosis and a replacement handle was shipped to me free-of-charge which I installed myself, careful not to overtighten the anchoring screws. Almost one year to the date the handle fell off again caused by the same problem, a stress fracture through the two anchoring holes. This can NOT be a coincidence and must be either due to the material (plastic) or the orientation of the anchoring holes.

When I returned to my other home the next day I examined the handle on my 20+ year old Non-Sears refrigerator. The handle was also made of plastic but I noticed that the anchoring holes were oriented FRONT-BACK, 90 degrees opposite the LEFT-RIGHT orientation of the handle on my Kenmore. I've spent over 90 minutes with cheerful reluctant Sears employees in the Home Services, Parts, Kenmore and Recall Divisions and have received no suggestions other than to purchase a replacement handle, certain to fail in another 12 months. A little research suggests that the model I purchased is no longer sold and that all the models Sears now sells has FRONT-BACK orientation of their handle anchoring screws, leaving me to conclude that the orientation of the anchoring screws results in torque to the handle making stress-failure inevitable. If none of us gets relief, perhaps a class-action lawsuit?????????????

3 1/2 years ago, I had no income and received state aid from an agency, OLHSA. They provided me with a new refrigerator (brand-new from Sears and Kenmore), insulation and a few other items. Now the refrigerator is leaking water everywhere, which is highly unusual for a refrigerator that's not even 3 1/2 years old. I contacted Sears and they said that they can't help me because the refrigerator is out of warranty. I contacted OLHSA, the state agency who provided me with the refrigerator (at no charge, since I had no income). I am now on permanent disability with low income. This past Monday, a representative from their office (OLHSA) came to my home and tested the refrigerator.

He found that it was defective and it needed to be replaced. However, I received a phone call from OLHSA on 3-5-15 telling me that my income is too high for them to repair the refrigerator, even though they are the ones who provided the refrigerator in the first place (AND IT IS NOT EVEN 3.5 years old!) When OLHSA asked me to submit my income documents, I did so and was not told there was any limit on income to have the refrigerator repaired OR replaced. So now, I have a refrigerator that WAS brand-new, less than 3 1/2 years ago, that was bought for me by a state agency. It is now defective and leaking water. I have a very bad back (which is why I'm permanently disabled) and cannot be getting down on the floor and sopping up water every 7 to 10 days. I'm shocked that this refrigerator didn't last even 3.5 years AND neither Sears OR OLHSA will stand behind their work OR the vendors they CHOOSE to do business with.

Do I any alternative than to buy a new refrigerator? As I said, I'm on permanent disability and the checks I get don't go that far, especially when my electric bill is $74 a month because my refrigerator is running constantly! I have appliances that were here when I bought this condo that are still working fine. I didn't choose the Kenmore refrigerator, OLHSA DID. I can't believe they can't/won't make this right, especially since I'm permanently disabled & on a fixed income. WHY DID THEY NOT TELL ME ABOUT THE INCOME REQUIREMENTS before the technician came out? At least I got confirmation that indeed, the refrigerator is inefficient, does NOT meet gov't standards & is defective. In the meantime, it runs almost 24/7 (running up my electrical bill) & I continue to have to throw away food that gets wet.

During the last few visits of repairs to my freezer my ice maker and water dispenser stopped working. Since this problem was not in the original complaint I had to pay for the repair. I was told by the repairman that it was a design flaw in the refrigerator and I would have that problem again which I did 3 months later. I spoke to him about my situation and he promised to call me in 3 days. He never returned my phone call. I went to the store and spoke to the assistant manager. He said that the products that they sell are not meant to last and that it was out of the store's hands since I had their Kenmore repairman work on my refrigerator. He again gave me their number and all they said is that they would offer me a 20% discount on my service. I told them that I did not have $1500 to spend on their defective product. By the time he got to the end of the driveway the refrigerator was not working again. I called for another service appt. and was scheduled for 2 weeks later. The same repairman arrived on time with the same 18-year old girl. The tech worked on the refrigerator and said he had the temperature as low as it could go and fixed the water dispenser. I was told not to keep the milk at the top of the refrigerator because it was freezing. 2 days after the repairman left the water dispenser was not working again. We were also experiencing things at the top of the refrigerator freezing.

Service was called again and about 3 weeks later a tech arrived on time to repair the water dispenser. This time the tech used our hair dryer to unthaw a pipe at the bottom of the refrigerator behind the crisp bins. The tech said that we needed to keep food items away from the walls of the refrigerator and away from the sensor. The tech arranged the items in the refrigerator to help us out. One day after he left the same problem reoccurred. Service was called again and was scheduled 3 weeks later. We are waiting for February 11th to see the outcome of this repair. I have cleaned it off but it keeps coming back - it is not plugged in and we are no longer using it. I finally removed the square piece around the panel to find out what I could. I found out that the area around the dispenser under the plastic panel had eroded away. Now the door is ruined and pieces of it fall off if you try to put the square piece back on the panel. The refrigerator still works well, but we don't have the water hooked up to use the dispenser. The website I added later in the review has the list of models and serial numbers included. The lawsuit claims that certain LG Signature Model and Sears Kenmore Model Refrigerators contain a defect with the ice fan that is evidenced with: an IF error; low or no ice production; clogged ice systems, water leaking; the refrigerator shutting off on its own; loud motor sounds; or ticking and grinding that goes away when the refrigerator is shut off. The settlement provides: 1. Repairs, 2. Reimbursement for damages (food loss or property damage), 3. Warranty extension.

Claims and Reimbursement: You can get a claim form at www.lgrefrigeratorsettlement.com (this is also the form for Kenmore refrigerators). The site has links on the left for more detail regarding the lawsuit. Complete the form and mail no later than April 11, 2015 to Clark v. LG Electronics, U.S.A., Inc. Strategic Claims Services P.O. I am looking for other reviews/claims regarding the stainless finish coming off. Perhaps another class action lawsuit is in order. While the company can claim this is only cosmetic, I paid $2666.44 for this refrigerator and the brown spots are increasing weekly. I deserve a product that will last.

We have purchased Kenmore products in the past with great results. I will NEVER EVER purchase another Kenmore product or buy from Sears again. The seals on the French doors are deteriorated and the freezer on the bottom won't close properly so it fills with frost and water to the point we need to chip it out monthly. The vegetables freeze and wastes a lot of money with ruined food. Wish we could afford something else. Will never own a Sears anything ever again.

I was searching for a site that demonstrated unclogging that drain that causes water to leak all over the floor on my Kenmore French door refrigerator w/ the bottom drawer freezer and I ran across this site. By the number of people that have had problems with this, you would think Sears would recall it. Maybe we should go in on a class action lawsuit. The refrigerator wasn't cheap and it's really bad publicity for Sears, who usually does thorough testing before putting a product on the market. I don't know what happened but I'm beginning to think I need to put this unit in the trash and go for something else. It's already ruined my floor.

Don't buy the Kenmore Elite series side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. I bought this product and have had several problems with it prior to the warranty expiration. The freezer bins keep cracking. The refrigerator temp could not be controlled, it was freezing all of the food. The doors did not seal properly. The latest incident is that the refrigerator and freezer are no longer cooling. We have tried to get an emergency repair appointment and were told that we would have to wait 12 days because there were no appointments available until that date. Meanwhile, all my food, about $500 worth has spoiled and the only compensation that was offered was $160 for reimbursement for a small refrigerator.

We bought a Kenmore Elite several years ago. I registered for this site so that I could let other consumers know what a terrible refrigerator it is. Do not buy. First, the lighting unit burned, I guess because something was too close to it. Replaced that piece and then it stopped working, shorted out and left brown burn marks. The icemaker quit a while back. The molding around the refrigerator is ripped and held together with duct tape. The plastic pieces surrounding the door shelves are cracked. Now, one drawer pull is broken and can't open drawer. This is a piece of junk. I will never buy a Kenmore again.

Bought a fridge from Sears in October online. Said in stock on site. They took the money right away then sent email it was back ordered a month. Finally it arrives and there's a small dent in the side (I didn't want the hassles of sending it back). Then we started noticing the milk spoiling quickly. The ice cream in freezer hard as a rock. I put a thermometer in the fridge and it’s +15 c (good thing no food poisoning) but had to throw out all our food the week before Christmas. Talking with Kenmore’s "customer service" in Bangladesh or who knows where, is exasperation. Still waiting after 5 days for repairman. Kenmore did say they'd reimburse perished food. Overall pretty shabby.

Model 10673206300 - mom and I purchased this in 2005. Was told by salesman that this should last without problems for 15 to 20 yrs. Explained to clerk that week - really needed something to suit our needs. We are both disabled and live on a fixed income. We purchased the warranty and early on in 2005, the drawers had to be replaced. For the past month the fridge has leaked off and on. We attempted to repair but was unable. Called sears today - they want $75.00 to diagnose and was also told it would probably be $200.00. Or I could sent Sears $39.99 monthly and pay only $60.00 for the diagnosis. I was struck by the fact that the first question asked by automated system is ...is fridge leaking? Lets me know that sears is aware of this defective product. NEVER AGAIN Will I BUY FROM SEARS.

I bought a new Kenmore fridge from a Sears store in April of 2013. On Dec.5, 2014 I opened the door to the fridge (which is separate from the freezer handle) and the handle broke off. I then discovered the handle was plastic and a screw had caused the handle to wear away from the attachment. I went to my Sears store and they said they could order a new handle and it would cost me $50 for the handle, $17 for shipping and labor. Since I was a half year over the warranty they were not covered by the company. I made my case with them on-line and on the phone, but they said sorry!!! This was installed wrong and the company obviously knew what a poor quality the handle was. The clerks in the store agreed this handle was a problem for others too. Sears/Kenmore should stand up and admit poor quality and replace the handle free of charge --warranty or no warranty. Now I know why people buy from local merchants who stand behind the brands they sell. Beware of all Sears quality.

We had our appliance man, Paul Long Appliances come to fix the door and he has applied loctite to the screw that came loose at the bottom. He assured her that the screw will not come out again. He stated that this is a design flaw that allows the screw to come undone by opening the door to the right. We bought a Kenmore Elite Refrigerator with French doors about 5 years ago because we trusted the Sears Kenmore name brand. It was almost $3,000 retail. The ice maker and temperature controls went out the very first year. A Sears vendor came out and replaced the ice maker after a few weeks. Stated it's an LG first year not Whirlpool. LG brand refrigerators are not good quality and parts take forever. In fact all service vendors have commented this brand is not good and takes forever for parts.

Over the past 5 years have had 4 ice makers (including another one tomorrow), 2 control motherboards, temperature sensors for both refrigerator and freezer, heating element and a host of other issues. These units are the worst ever and if we knew it was made by LG - would not have bought it. Lost several hundreds of dollars in food. Sears needs to recall these units and until then I am boycotting them.

I absolutely hate to put down such a venerable old name as Sears and Kenmore. I bought a brand new high end refrigerator, range microwave and dishwasher from Sears 6 years ago, and they have all been falling apart ever since. It's heartbreaking as I had old appliances that I chucked out that had served me well for 30 years, but after a kitchen remodel, I wanted all shiny new stainless steel appliances. The troubles started soon after purchase, and now two of the appliances are non-functional, and the other two are limping along.

REFRIGERATOR - Be sure to look over very well any refrigerator you buy. For some odd reason, this Kenmore stops the rack several inches short of the rear of the fridge. Not only cheats you out of valuable space, things are constantly dropping down in the "no man's land" I call the back of my fridge. The worst part is the ice maker. The ice hopper would block up constantly, and I'd have to manually pull out, bust up and defrost the ice in the ice hopper and clean it out - an easy hour wasted on this task. Now the ice maker does not work at all. The ice freezes in the water supply tube, and has to be defrosted by a hair dryer, which takes forever to do. I'm tired of spending hours getting this darn ice maker to work. I just put ice cube trays in the freezer now. It's very disappointing.

RANGE - From the get go, the range has had a strange hum when you turn on the jets, and the oven. It scared me at first, but the salesman that sold me the range told me it's common for a hum noise when you first turn on the jets, and the oven. Strange, I thought, but it doesn't stop humming - it just sounds like a kitchen range practicing yoga...hummmmmm. The oven has to be set about 50 degrees hotter than the temperature asked for, otherwise you'll find a raw turkey in your oven at dinnertime on Thanksgiving, like I did. I learned to adjust for the inaccurate temperature on the range, but 50 degrees? Sheesh!

MICROWAVE - The door closure foot has broken twice, and good thing I bought two of them from the Appliance Parts Bank here in H.B. I have replaced two of them myself, not wanting to pay $75.00 minimum for a repairman to come and fix it. Also very annoying. Shoddy construction - plastic parts that are not made as well as my grandson's Lego parts!

WORST PROBLEM & DANGEROUS... The microwave runs when it is in OFF position. In other words, if the door is closed, the microwave runs, never shuts off, and I mean HOT! A couple of times I have used it and went in the other room to do something and came back to almost a fire in my kitchen - smoke all over and the microwave still running. It has automatically shut off a couple of times. The door has to remain open at all times and the bright light is burning 24-7. I've got to unplug the whole machine now as I don't want my house to burn down.

DISHWASHER - What a piece! I use it seldom but water does not drain out properly. THAT'S ALL FOLKS - Very sorry, as I bought these from Sears because Sears was paying its reserve troops who were called to combat - my sense of love for that act alone propelled me to buy these units.

Bought a Kenmore Refrigerator model number 795.7130 (March 8, 2013) a double door refrigerator with a bottom freezer. Within the first couple months a part broke off on one of the doors. The tech said this was a common repair. OK! A couple weeks ago the refrigerator started making noise which would stop after a while and then start up again. Sunday before Thanksgiving the refrigerator stopped working, would not made ice but the freezer was still keeping the food cold. The soonest they could come out would be Friday the day after Thanksgiving.

The tech never showed up Friday. After 2 phone calls was told they would send someone Saturday. It was determined that there was an ice buildup behind the back panel in the freezer which was blocking the fan. When he took off the panel there was a huge ice buildup. He suggested around every 9 months we empty the refrigerator and freezer, unplug the unit so any ice buildup can drain. He was very, very polite and professional. Should I have to buy an emergency refrigerator?

Called my cousin in Virginia and was told the Sears is quite aware of these problems, that the problem is where they outsource the refrigerators parts who install inferior material. Spent another $251 for an extended warranty that is only for a year, I didn't get the extended warranty when I purchased the refrigerator because I had faith in Sears products. Your warranty only covers up to $500 and if your refrigerator can't be fixed, Sears will give you $500 towards a new one. I will not buy anything at Sears ever again. If you really want to buy a top quality product buy a Dyson vacuum. They give a 5 year warranty. They have faith in their product.

Purchased new freezer in March of 2014. Reasonable installation, installers broke a small part which was replaced by Sears. I purchased extra hoppers for the door. All was OK until this winter when we had several power outages. After the second outage, the freezer stopped running. I called and spoke to a technician who directed me to reset the breakers on the electrical box. She said the freezer would come back on in awhile. It didn't, so I called for a service call which had to be scheduled some time much later than I needed. In the meantime, after a week or so, the freezer resumed working. All was OK again for about a week when the freezer stopped again. I went through the breaker box routine again with no results. However, two days later the freezer resumed running but only for an hour or so. (Are we having fun yet?) I have called again for a service call, again sometime in the future and have cleared out the freezer and turned it off with the interior dial. (I would pull the plug, but I can't reach it.) The consequences as you can imagine are the loss of the entire contents of the freezer and extreme stress to me.

Within the first year, Sears had to come out to replace the motherboard on the refrigerator because we kept getting an error code and we were unable to use the ice maker or water dispenser. About 6 month ago, the same thing happened and they replaced a condenser and compressor but the fan in the freezer kept freezing up and then the freezer stopped working altogether. Most recently they came out to put a heating element around the fan but now the refrigerator doesn't keep a steady temp, there is limited airflow (this coming from the repair guy) and the ice maker makes the ice but wont drop it. We have emailed our case manager at Sears but now they simply don't respond even though all these current issues are because of the work they did!

Sears refuses to replace it and now won't service their poor quality workmanship, in fact they want us to use our own repair man to see what they can come up with, but there's no way, and the warranty would be voided if someone else touched this refrigerator. It seems to me, that there are a lot of people with these same issues on this site that could warranty a class action lawsuit against Kenmore.

Adding my experience to the host of people complaining about the same thing. My unit is less than 2 years old and suddenly it started to smell like a bad fart when you open the door. After the usual remedies of removing possibly stale food and cleaning the unit, I removed the back panel and cleaned out the coils and drip pan. The pan was empty, so no odor cause found. I hear there is another drip pan that is inaccessible? I just submitted an email to SMAdvisor@searshc.com so we will see if anything comes from that. There was a successful class action lawsuit over a Kenmore unit (produced by LG) that had a light that would not shut off and caused unnecessary service calls and food spoilage. I think this issue is a VERY good candidate for another class action lawsuit given the possible design flaws and losses incurred.

I had an issue with my bottom freezer Kenmore refrigerator this week that I bought 15 months ago. Control panel showing "Er rF" error and water dispense, ice dispense and refrigerator was not working. Only Deep freeze was working. Freezer was making big sound sometimes. I called Kenmore from Warranty page. She set-up appointment to come out tech guy after a week on their available basis. I asked her if that will cost me anything? She said no unless there is part that do not cover by factory warranty and if I do not agree to replace the uncovered part, it cost nothing to me. She said that after tech guy look at the refrigerator he will give me cost that include part and labor.

So, that evening I also discovered that refrigerator also not working and food went waste. Then I called local tech from the Web that was picked up by SEARS guy. After I gave my phone #, he found that I have schedule to check refrigerator week later. Then he started telling me the prices that involved the tech guy coming to my house. I told him about the conversation I had with last rep. He claimed that she was lying and they will take action on that. I was so confused. The 1 year, 5 years and 10 years factory warranty that was written in manual that I tried to explain to him, he just denied and speaking behalf of Kenmore company. The price he quoted me same as Steven below. That is $79, just for the tech guy coming to my house, $278 for 1 year extended warranty but first visit I have to pay $60 extra to the tech guy and if the refrigerator is not fixable, they will give me credit of $500 towards my next new purchase of SEARS credit. This was a totally different kind of conversation than I was told by the previous rep. He was trying hard to take the offer at that time. But, I just told him, I am confused and I will call you back once I figured out what to do.

Then I called back after an hour at 1-800-469-4663 (the # from Manual) to accept the offer since I have to have working refrigerator. Rep found that the appointment next week that was scheduled by 1st rep. I asked her to move the schedule a little earlier since freeze was not working. Luckily, she found next day appointment. I again asked her if that cost me anything. She said no unless there is a part that needs to be replaced that is not covered by your Factory Warranty. Sweet, I just did not ask anything.

Next day tech guy came and take a look my refrigerator with no cost. I did not have to change any parts. He fixed it and freeze is working. I did not pay a penny. So, good.

In fact, SEARS is manipulating to charge money to consumer. Do not call the SEARS, call the phone # from manual. In manual it also listed as SEARS too thought. Since I had this experience with SEARS, I am not going to purchase anything from SEARS. SEARS trying to rip my money. I would suggest everyone to call 1-800-469-4663 rather then SEARS. Hope this will help everyone. If your refrigerator is less than 5 years old and you have not purchase extended warranty from SEARS, at least tech guy come to your house free.

DO NOT TRUST SEARS. I have all my appliances are Kenmore brand and bought from SEARS, but I am not going there again. Their cheap way to do business is not acceptable.

I purchased a side by side Kenmore Refrigerators in June of 2013. In July of 2014 my Refrigerators started to leak water all over my floor. I read the manual to see what it could be and it said to check the hose. I pulled the Refrigerators out and the water was leaking from the side where the ice maker was located. I turned the ice maker off and cleaned up the water. I left the icemaker off for a while. I turn the icemaker back on and the water started to leak again. When I call their customer service, I was told that my warranty ended on June 26, 2014. One month prior to my call and then he proceeding to pitch a sale for the Home Security system to protect my appliances. Then he explained that I need to set an appointment to have a service representative come out to diagnose what the problem is and pay him 75.00 and then I will need to pay for all parts needed to correct the problem.

This really upset me because if an appliance breaks down after operating for 1 year, I view as a defected item. I have three other Whirlpool appliances and they are all over 10 years old and I have never had a problem with either of them. Not one. I don't care who the company is, they should stand behind the product much better than that.

Considering I am a single person with no one in my home, stands that the ice maker was not in over use. I also purchased a dish washer and a vent to go over my oven at the same time I purchased the refrigerator. If I am asked what I want, I want another refrigerator. This one was defected in the beginning. I will be make complaints to everyone involved in my sale, including Kenmore, Sears, and BBB. My local TV station has a special segment dealing with people that are dissatisfied with a service or product and I intend on contact popular published radio stations to express my dissatisfaction with my new product. I appreciate the opportunity to share my story.

Yesterday we had our Kenmore elite refrigerator repaired yet again. Ice maker issues again. Repairman put in a new ice maker that now only has 2 screws that hold it in whereas there used to be 5. Therefore when the water came in to the ice maker it didn't go into the cup/tray instead just spilling all over. He turned off the ice maker and told my wife to have me turn down the water pressure when I got home and left. The ice maker is not screwed at the top allowing it to tip away from the water line and making the water spill. If I turned down the pressure it would be worse.

We spent $20,000 at sears in 7 years - craftsman rider and garage door openers, Kenmore fridge, microwave, dishwasher, stove, washer, dryer. A treadmill and vacuum cleaner. All in 7 years. All Kenmore was elite series. Problems with fridge were almost immediate. We have a light fixture meltdown, complete freezer ice up, control board changes, several ice maker issues, water dispenser always slow then stopped working. Complete shut downs with error codes. Most of these I have fixed myself, including yesterday’s episode after he left us high and dry. Even had a wire break smack dab in the middle of the water dispenser door that we were told could not be fixed because the doors are sealed at the factory and cannot be opened up. How does a wire break inside of a sealed door unless it was damage when being installed? Said I would need a new $800 door.

My wife and I managed to peel open enough of the door to see 2 wires that had very clear slice marks in them one being all the way through. We fixed them and the water dispenser worked like it had never worked before. Those 2 wires were cut during manufacture and hung on by a strand or two till finally letting go and then no more dispenser. Microwave tray would clunk and tip every time it went back and forth till I figured out the wheels were on the arm wrong and once I switched them it has been fine. Dishwasher needs to be run twice per load to get dishes clean. Stove works great. New washer sometimes stops mid cycle and says no H2O. Consumer reports says by Kenmore Elite. Well I will tell you they don't know crap.

I have almost no Kenmore appliances that work without problems, spent about $9000 on them, none older than 7 years some as new as 1 year and I will never consider another. We used to buy everything at Sears including a Dyson vacuum (love it) and a Nordic track treadmill (very good) and all my craftsman hand tools over the last twenty five years. No more. I am done. They have done almost nothing to help us or to keep us as customers. When Sears finally goes out of business (been hurting for years) I am going to call the customer service center and laugh at them. Goodbye Sears and I hope you’re gone soon. Kenmore is trash!!!!!!! Sears does not like their customers, just their money. They got mine, for the last time.

The last leak damaged our hardwood floor and sub-floor. The third time the leak developed I called Sears service center only to have them tell me they don't service in Anchorage, Alaska when in fact they do. I suspect that the reason they denied me service was because my protection agreement had expired. I purchased a $2000 Kenmore 3-door bottom fridge, Model# 79571304012, manufacture date of 2011.12. About 3 months after the warranty ran out, we noticed a loud noise coming from the freezer. We noticed a large ice buildup along the back wall. We knocked it off and the noise stopped. That lasted for a couple of weeks. The noise was back along with the ice buildup. Tried this a few more times over the next month or two. Then, the noise got really loud and we noticed that the freezer wasn't cooling properly. We then noted that after the ice was removed once again, the freezer was doing okay, but the refrigerator was getting warm. Well, by the next day, we lost all of our food and it was not working at all. We called a repairman and he charged us $250 to remove the door and replace some part. Now, one year later, it has started this same cycle - DO NOT BUY THIS! It is roomy and nice, but this has been a headache!!!

In September of 2012 we bought a new Kenmore refrigerator from Sears. In less than a year we noticed severe ice build up on the back panel of the bottom freezer. We contacted service who sent someone out. He did nothing other than tell us that maybe the door was left ajar, or that we basically open the refrigerator too much! Really?!! It's never been a problem with any past refrigerator. This was August and he said once the weather got less humid it would probably slowly disappear. Well we waited and it didn't and how convenient and cost saving for Sears....it went off warranty! Now it's added a new problem to go along with the ice build up. A loud noise probably coming from the evaporator fan motor from what I have read online.

Several weeks ago I pulled out the inner drawers and used a small hammer to chip away the ice build up myself. It stopped the noise for about 3 weeks, but now it's started up again and there is ice showing up again on the back panel. I contact Sears service and was told basically tough luck since we didn't buy the extended warranty. But they offered to give us 10% off of a service call. Big deal!! They never fixed the problem to begin with when it was still under warranty. We refused to pay $479 for extended protection on a $1200 large ticket item like a fridge that should last for more than a year without issues! They obviously know what they are selling is junk. I'm quite certain from what I've been reading that this is a design flaw. It should be recalled. I'm completely disgusted and will not deal with Sears again.

This is a follow-up to an earlier description of our problem with a Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refrigerator, purchased at a local Sears store in 2008. The prefix of 795 in the model number indicates, according to my extensive research, that LG manufactures this refrigerator. I just received notification, written in extremely poor English, that LG flatly denies manufacturing this refrigerator. They pass the buck to Kenmore. Since experiencing our problem starting last weekend, I have seen numerous references to this problem of the light staying on in the refrigerator section - getting so hot that it fries the surrounding area. I don't care about the food we lost, but I do get angry at the loss of a newly purchased bottle of $200 insulin (which was on the top shelf near the lights that were intensely hot) which I paid cash for because it's not covered by insurance.

I received no notification of any problem with this refrigerator at any time in the past 6 years. I spent numerous hours on the phone today, talking to people who can't speak clear English, being switched from department to department, being hung up on, being referred back to all the numbers I had called previously. With no repair persons/companies in our area (or within 100 miles) to service LG/Kenmore appliances, we have no options but to junk this incredibly expensive refrigerator. I can guarantee that I will never, never, never buy anything from Sears again or any LG product. I will run in the other direction. The customer service for Sears and LG is absolutely horrid. They should both be forced out of business.

Last weekend we noticed that the light in our LG manufactured (purchased 6 years ago at Sears under the Kenmore Elite name) bottom freezer refrigerator was staying on until it got too hot and shut down the top part of the refrigerator. The top part of the refrig. was so hot that it not only destroyed all the food there, but a newly purchased $200 bottle of insulin (not covered under any kind of insurance). I could smell the overheated light unit and immediately shut down the refrig. and unplugged it. I am paranoid about potential fires and wanted to avoid one until a repair person could check out the problem. We could not unscrew the light bulbs as they were too hot and, even after cooling down, were in so tightly that we couldn't get them to budge.

We lost most of the food in the refrig. and freezer. We contacted Sears regarding the light problem. Their reply was "This is a known issue with the refrigerator lights staying on all the time. The repair for this is to replace with a light kit with a new and improved part. For this repair ONLY the warranty was extended for the life of the product." Sears refused to send out a repair person or to tell us how to get the "new and improved part". We have absolutely NO people or companies that repair LG products in our area (or anywhere near where we live). We have been turned down by everyone we contacted to ask, beg, or plead to fix our refrigerator.

Given that this appliance only lasted 6 years, for the exorbitant price we paid, for the total lack of service (using the pass-the-buck routine), we deserve something - from LG and from Sears. Having to purchase another refrigerator at this point is almost impossible financially, but we have no choice. I am thoroughly disgusted with both the customer service departments at Sears and LG. One thing I would strongly recommend to both of them - hire people who speak English - CLEARLY.

Returned back and turned the fridge on with no issues. I was advised to leave the fridge running while we were on another trip in January 2014 but found that our fridge's compressor had failed during our 2 month absence. I am guessing it failed early after I left, because when I returned on March 20, 2014, I found some of the items in the fridge had spoiled. In all, this fridge was only in operation for less than 11 months theoretically, and possibly only 9 months.

The fridge now runs constantly and won't keep cold. The designated Kenmore neighborhood repair guy said it's the compressor that's shot, the motor runs, the compressor doesn't get cold. Sears won't stand behind it because it exceeded its one year warranty, according to the calendar. Since Sears and Kenmore are not willing to stand behind their product. It is my intent to inform others of this issue with my fridge.

The only reason I got a replacement is because I kept out one rack for the door of the refrigerator and a shelf from the first refrigerator. You CANNOT adjust the shelves. They are fixed. We had 5" or so between one shelf and the other.

After waiting two months and 3 visits from the repairman, we're told they cannot fix our display on our refrigerator. They could fix it if we had a black refrigerator, but they no longer make that part in white to go on a white refrigerator (They did offer to put the black part onto our white refrigerator which takes up a substantial part of the front and would look ridiculous to have a white + black refrigerator in our all white kitchen).

Top of the line refrigerators are supposed to last more than seven years. And their warranty is crap. They used to be rated high for customer service which is why we bought a Kenmore and paid extra for the warranty, but now it seems they're all too happy to collect money, but when it comes to replacing parts with the correct replacement parts, they can't deliver.

We had purchased a home warranty when we purchased the house so we called Old Republic and reported the problem. On the 12th a repairman from BJ Appliance Service came out and said he was afraid to do anything because he wasn't sure that it wasn't in the sealed part of the refrigerator which is under a ten year warranty so he would report back to Old Republic.

Old Republic set up an appointment with Sears (A&E) Repair for November 19th. Since that time they have returned SEVEN times, replacing various parts each time, oftentimes more than once. Twice the repairman who was sent said that it was probably the fault of the first repairman that was sent. I insisted he did nothing but look at it. They finally agreed to a replacement because the fault was in the sealed part of the refrigerator but it took hours on the phone, seven times waiting for service and almost FOUR MONTHS without a working refrigerator.

Twice customer service people told us that because we hadn't bought the warranty it was up to us to replace it. And we were also told by Old Republic that Sears and LG were arguing over who should replace it because it is really an LG product. No wonder Sears is failing - they used to stand behind things that had their name on them. And the warranty on this $2600 refrigerator was almost $400! Well it just happened again and the unplug/replug procedure worked again. Low and behold, my wife found out from the manual that the unit should be shut off if you are away from home for more than about a week. Makes us wonder if this failure mode is known by the manufacturer and is programmed into the controller. Kind of an unusual way to go Green, don't you think. In addition to that issue, when the solenoid opens to fill the ice maker it is so loud it sounds like an alarm going off. So I reported it and they send a guy out who does nothing but verify the model and serial number, orders a new solenoid and charges $250.00. 2 weeks later another guy shows up to install it and charges $350.00! Now this is under warranty but come on... I only paid $1000.00 for the fridge! Anyway the new solenoid is just as loud as the original one and now they want to come change it out again. I told them I want a different model refrigerator and was told they have to make so many attempts to correct this problem before they can declare it a lemon and have the whole thing replaced. My letter to sears customer service: I am writing to you today to express my sincere displeasure with the quality of customer service I have received from Sears. As you are probably aware, I purchased a new, top of the line Kenmore Elite refrigerator from my local Sears store in May of 2012. Since then, this refrigerator has stopped working twice. Both times I called Sears to repair it and both times I was told it needed a new PCB (part number EBR 73093602) and a new Duct assembly (part number ADJ 73252202). The first service call was covered by the manufacturer's 1 year warranty, the more recent call was not.

The technician who was sent on the most recent occasion mentioned to me that the problem I am experiencing is a known defect and has been assigned "Service Bulletins". This was confirmed by the customer service representative that I spoke to on the phone. The CSR went on to give me the actual SB numbers of CREF20121236 and CREF20131371. Knowing now that this is a documented recurring problem, I had reasonably expected Sears to stand behind their product and cover the cost of the repair. Apparently I was wrong. After numerous phone calls and being transferred form one representative to another, the best resolution I was offered was a 10% discount off the cost of the repair. I find this totally unacceptable.

My refrigerator has been inoperative for 2 weeks now, and will remain so for at least another week as that is when the parts arrive and the next service appointment is scheduled. Again, this is totally unacceptable. In the interim, I've been forced to incur the additional expense of renting a refrigerator to avoid further loss of food due to spoilage. My experience with Sears up to this point has been extremely disappointing to put it mildly. The unwillingness to stand behind their products, especially knowing of the recurring defect, is deplorable. Going forward I plan to leave numerous online reviews, documenting the issue I've mentioned above. I think most people expect more from Sears. Thank you for your time.

Please all of you that have had problems with the Kenmore Elites, call their Kenmore manufacturer complaints department at 877-878-3687. The more people that call and complain about these fridges, the more likely we are to get the darned things recalled. I know they have different models, but mine is 795.713.02.012 and at least 3 other similar models have had the same fan/icemaker/condenser problem with icing over, loud fan noises and the icemaker not functioning. Unfortunately for me, the last tech replaced the icemaker but didn't note it in our file. He used a hair dryer to defrost the coils and told us to do it ourselves instead of waiting on service.

He also said it would only have to be done once or twice a year. Well because we did as he instructed instead of calling the last 5 or 6 times it was acting up, we aren't eligible to get a free replacement. Had we called in and complained about it, they would have. I also found out that if we complain enough about it and they get enough calls, they will recall it so please spread the word and don't do anything yourself if possible. These models are substandard and aren't manufactured in the USA so they are junk. Sears used to have the best reputation for service and products, America used to produce wonderful products that we were proud to stand behind and put our names on.

All of the Sear reps I talked to were very apologetic and I'm sure some must feel horrible about having to fail those who rightfully have complaints. I'm going to find out more about lemon laws for one but I think Sears and other retailers who sell foreign made items need to get tough about the products they are putting their names on. They need to demand higher standards and better quality or stop doing business with these people. I'm sure the fridges they manufacture for their countries aren't having these kinds of problems, to be sure.

Our refrigerator was professionally installed in 2007. On a Spring 2013 morning I opened the refrigerator door to find our food hot & a "burning" smell. The interior light had melted the light fixture. A repair person was not available for several weeks. We removed the light bulb. A repair was made. Interesting that a recall had been made. We had no notification. We did have to pay for the service call. Early in December, I noticed that our hardwood floor in front of the refrigerator seemed to be warping in areas. We pulled the refrig away from the wall to find that water damage had occurred behind it. Thankfully, a plumber responded to an emergency call. The water line for the water dispenser & ice cube maker had hardened & cracked. So any time either was used, water sprayed on the floor. At this time we are drying out the floor. We will not use the water features again. I would never buy a Kenmore product again.

Having been unaware of the problem, I took a major dive on the kitchen floor when I slid in the puddle of water. One more reason to BEWARE of purchasing from Sears. Seems like Sears will not change their irresponsible practices until a law suit forces them to do so.

I purchased this $2300 refrigerator in 2011. It has had one repair already and is scheduled for another repair this month. During this repair, the man stated the "dryer" unit failed. He repaired that and then stated that the computer board may need to be replaced as well; he did not do that, as it reset. Well, that was wrong as the freezer continued to not be as cold as it should. We go out of town for 2 weeks and the entire unit lost its cooling power. Get this... The temperature rose to 80 in the inner cabinet as well as the freezer so I had to remove all food and try to clean out the smell.

When I called for service, I was told the earliest they could come was 7, yes, 7 days later. Why would they take so long for such a vital part of a household? They are due here in 5 more days as we live with two ice chests and no items that need to be refrigerated. I am not sure what the outcome will be of this visit, but I am seriously considering junking it and buying something else. I can not trust it to work properly. With holidays around the corner, I don't want to lose more food. I am not at all happy with Sears products. I feel that they have just shifted to the cheapest versions possible to maintain the highest profit margins they can. If appliances are so poorly made and require continuous repairs, maybe they should get out of the appliance business.

I have a Kenmore Elite ref model #795.72053.110 purchased at Sears. For the life of me I cannot find out who is responsible for anything on the ref. When I call the different companies that have their names on it, they all say it's not their responsibility. So what I have found out: They like my money and want me to purchase another ref from them after this one lasted two years and I have been told it has to be thrown out because it can't be repaired. If you didn't purchase a service agreement they can't talk to you.

The warranty expired just minutes before my ref quit and that there never was a warranty for the problem I was having. You must pay for a service call before they will tell you what I already know and get nothing in return for that service call. If I purchase another ref from them, I will be treated just as poorly the next time I have a problem and because you're not a new customer, we will find another way to treat you even more poorly because now you're family and that's just what we do. I hope nobody has the same issue I do but don't be afraid to take the Sears beat down. Just keep in mind that they like to do it slowly so take a day or two off of work to get the whole experience.

They replaced it and it was working fine. About 4 months later the same error occurred. They came back out and replaced the ice maker blower motor and the circuit board control that was suppose to fix the problem. It went out again and we tried to get them to replace the refrigerator but they wouldn't.

Our warranty ran out in October of 2012. I had to pay $280.00 to have the same blower motor replaced about a month ago. Everyone of the repair men have told me that we are not the only ones with this problem. Why don't the company do something to fix it? The same motor has been replaced 4 times on my refrigerator. The first year that we came back and opened up, we could not get the refrigerator to work. ERR was the reading where the temperature should have been displayed. I contacted Sears and they informed me that my warranty had just run out. In my defense, it took several weeks to have the repairman come to our area. Then after both my husband and I took off from work and drove the two hours so that we could be here when he arrived, he never showed. We had to again set up another appt. and that is when the repairman said the design of the bottom drawer freezer was a bad design and we had to make sure we closed it from the exact center or the fan would not work properly. This lasted about one month before the same thing happened.

Sears sold us the extended warranty (another $300) and after limping through the summer, we arrived this year to the same problem and again our extended warranty had expired. So far this summer, we have had the coils freeze up 4 times. My husband has to take off the back of the freezer after removing the drawer and use a hair dryer to defrost the coils. The amount of food that I have had to throw away is a crime. Not only was this refrigerator/freezer expensive but the customer service was horrible and the problem still exists. Bad design or not, it is not the fault of the consumer. What rights does this consumer have? All I have had offered to me was to purchase another extended warranty! One star rating = angry. My beautiful Kenmore Elite Bottom drawer refrigerator died suddenly a week and a half ago. It was 5 1/2 years old and I came home from shopping to find the freezer had turned into a pool of water. Two repairmen and dozens of hours shopping around, reading reviews, talking to repairmen on the phone and salesmen at various stores I've come to realize that no average priced refrigerator made today is expected to last more than 7-12 years at best and though 5 years is a little short, it's not all that uncommon. Kenmore refrigerators are made by various other companies... Whirlpool mostly, though mine was made by Amana. We've looked at the wonderfully rated LGs and Samsungs only to back off when reading other reviews full of complaints about electronic failures and shoddy workmanship.

For me as a consumer, IT'S ALL ABOUT RELIABILITY AND SERVICE, not fancy bells and whistles. Having both would be nice, but I don't know if that's an option anymore. Ice makers seem to cause a lot of problems too, from what I've read. Seems like buying SIMPLE would be best. The less money you pay, the less you stand to lose. Sad statement on the quality of products out there today. Maybe we should all buy cheap since the stuff is basically built to be disposable, and send a message to the manufacturers. Hit them in the pocketbook. We all need refrigerators, but we just can't expect a good product it seems. Or anyone at that end who cares. WE still haven't decided what to buy... Our stuff is crammed into our old 15 year old GE extra out in the game room. Our neighbor offered us use of their old 35 year old in their garage. Pathetic, isn't it?

I purchased a Kenmore refrigerator in 2008. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the ice was taking days to freeze and the ice cream was defrosting. I called service and was told that my 1-year warranty had expired and I had two options: purchase an extended 1-yr warranty for $298.00 and the repair would be free, or call service which would cost $109 to diagnose the problem and approx $300+ to repair (based loosely on the symptoms I described).

Neither of these options is acceptable for the following reasons: 1. I purchased this refrigerator for about $490. 2. If the average lifespan of a refrigerator is 15-18 years, my EXPECTATION is that this unit will last the average lifetime without major repairs. Had Sears advertised that this unit may only last 4 years before needing major repair, of course I would not have bought it. 3. The estimated cost for repairing this appliance is between 60% and 100% of the purchase price. This is ridiculous. Why would I have bought a unit that would need this type of repair after 4 years.

I contacted Sears and they offered me 15% off repair or 15% off the purchase of a new refrigerator. Neither of these options are acceptable. The unit is obviously defective so why would I invest that kind of money in repairing it. If this is the level of confidence they have in their own product, why should I buy another Kenmore refrigerator. Right now, I am out of $500 because I have to purchase another refrigerator, and Sears has basically benefited by selling a full-priced defective product.

All were covered under warranty. Then, the motherboard in the fridge went out. Sears came out and fixed that. Sears came out, and the drawer is $330 for the part and repair plus the service call fee, and the door they couldn't even get open to fix or recommend a fix, other than saying the door would need to be replaced and it's very expensive and might not fix the problem.

Shouldn't a freezer last more than a year? I ended up having to buy a new freezer, but not a Kenmore. I'm wondering if this was refurbished.

I called Sears - they said to order the shelf and we will credit you $65 back on to your card. I ordered the part online at searsdirectparts.com, Sears’s online store for $111.76. Then, I called back to give the order number so they would credit me back. I was told I had to order through tech support and that they would not give me the credit anyway or would they cancel my order made 5 minutes ago. Bad refrigerator, worse customer service; I was directly lied to. I will never buy Sears again.

I bought Sears Kenmore Elite refrigerator 795.77563600 in 10/2006. It has always had problems with the ice maker, but I've learned to live with it. Today, however, I opened the fridge at lunch time and noticed the smell of burning plastic. The lights had stayed on and melted the plastic light cover. The plastic was dripping down onto food! I tested the door switches to confirm that the doors weren't simply left ajar: 1) Open doors: Fridge beeps and lights on; 2) Open doors + press switch: Fridge stops beeping and lights on; 3) Close doors: Fridge stops beeping (and presumably lights still on). I am happy I caught this during the day! I shudder to think what would have happened if this occurred at night. Kenmore/LG should recall these fridges before they cause a house fire!

I purchased a Sears refrigerator in late August 2010. Of course, it is a Kenmore product. I had my fridge for 22 months in working order. I paid $1,355.98 and for a fridge to last that long is ridiculous! The compressor went in my fridge, which had to be faulty or a lemon. I'm a single mother and that is a lot of money for me to come up with. Unfortunately, I never purchased the extended warranty which at the time was close to $300.00. I lost $200.00 at least of food in my fridge and to repair my fridge will cost me $400.00 for the part and $300.00 for the service. Unbelievable that Kenmore and anyone working at Sears can stand behind this product and actually write on their invoice, "The brands you want at the store you trust."

I contacted the service center and the store I purchased at. They would not do anything to compensate for this or even meet me halfway on the part, I would have considered repairing it. So, it's GE product for me from now on. I will never purchase anything from Sears again. If I bought a $20.00 clothing item and it ripped, I would definitely have no problem bringing it back. But a large appliance after 22 months of purchase and for no one to seem to care at Sears blows my mind!

We purchased this refrigerator (Kenmore Refrigerator Model 970-420423) on April 26, 2012, and it is the noisiest fridge I've ever seen. The motors keep constantly running. Apparently, it has 3 motors in it, and with requiring so much pressure, every time we open the fridge portion, the top freezer pops open and often. It doesn't close completely, leaving a gap of about 1/4". If a person is gone all day, they can easily find that the freezer section has been open 1/4" all day. We're so dissatisfied with our purchase and because it takes awhile to realize its problems, Sears would only send a repairman out to check it out. He says the material they use to insulate the fridges now does not do anything to soundproof them. He gave the reasons for the freezer door popping open which doesn't help us any. We're very sorry we purchased from Sears. We won't trust them again. This product is supposed to be made by Maytag, so, watch out.

The model number of these two Kenmore refrigerators is 106 71194101; S/N for the one in our kitchen is EM2815239, the S/N for the one in our basement is EM3413223. The refrigerator in our kitchen started depositing water in the cabinet area, coming out of the tower. I placed a container under the tower to catch the water and this continued for a week, when we finally called the service department. The service representative knew immediately what was wrong with the refrigerator. He said it was frozen up and was depositing the water that should be going into the defrost pan into the cabinet area via the tower. He said it was a faulty design of this particular model refrigerator. He tore the entire freezer area apart and there was ice accumulated on the coils and under the bottom pan of the freezer area. This cost us $140 (a senior discount).

Just a couple of weeks ago, this refrigerator again started to deposit water in the cabinet area, so we knew what the problem was and we tore the freezer area apart, as the service representative had done and removed all the ice that had once again accumulated in the freezer area. These refrigerators are supposed to be frost-free and this is getting to be quite a job, as in the last week, we also found water had accumulated in our basement refrigerator. Quite a large amount of water was in the cabinet as we do not get into this refrigerator daily. So once again, we had to put all the food in coolers and dismantle the freezer and had to use a hair dryer, due to the fact that the ice had become very thick around the tower and we could not remove the bottom pan until we melted it.

This is getting very annoying and a lot of work having to remove all the food from the freezer and trying to keep it frozen, so it won't spoil. We have been very loyal customers of Sears. We have always had Sears washers and dryers, many tools have been purchased by my husband, lawn mowers, blowers, etc. Actually, I worked for Sears in the Credit Dept. Canton, OH after my graduation in 1948, until I was married in 1949. I was a very active shopper from the catalog, for our children, when I was working, made if very convenient to use. Just had to pick up the items at the catalog dept. I still buy many things of clothing for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Sears. We are so disappointed in these 2 refrigerators. I would like to know if you have any suggestions as to how the poor design of these refrigerators can be corrected so they do not freeze up. Thank you. I will be waiting to hear from CEO Lou D'Ambrosio.

I own a Kenmore Elite Trio French door refrigerator and the large glass shelve shattered in little pieces when I went to clean it under water. This is the second same type of fridge I owned and the problem is that the freezer keeps freezing up and then defrosting to the point that even the food gets defrosted. The ice maker freezes up and stops making ice. The ice melts down, then freezes up to one block of ice. This is a $2,000 purchase and it is the second one that I have owned. The first one was left behind when I sold my home and I only experienced it for five months as I had to move.

My freezer has frozen up and the tracks were frozen. When I went to pull on the freezer handle to try to open it, the door hinge came off and the door is hanging on by one hinge. It is Saturday and I had to put a trash can up against the door to try to keep the freezer from defrosting until Monday, when a service man can come out to fix the door. I am reading all of these complaints and I am not a happy camper. I will be calling Sears Monday morning with all these complaints to back up my complaint and I will get back to you to let you know how it goes. I bought this fridge last September 2009.

    Updated on 05/06/2012:

I followed up on my service call. Well, it has been one week, and today, I finally have my Kenmore Elite Trio bottom freezer made by LG working again. Never buy Sears appliances. I spoke to the corporate office, and you cannot speak to anyone above the so-called customer service executive office people. I spoke to a Lana, and she would not tell me her supervisor's name. She said it is for security reasons. Ha! The service man came out on Monday, ordered the part, and came back Thursday to install. Well, it was the wrong part for the freezer door. I ordered it again, and the appointment was made for Saturday. The service man came out, and it was a different man who came out to service the fridge. He did not charge me! I am sure they made a mistake, because I was told I would not be reimbursed for food and I would only get maybe a 10 to 15 percent discount. It's not acceptable to me, since I lost over $300.00 worth of food. Lana was not helpful; she was very rude and would not let me speak to anyone else in corporate nor would she gave me any name of who was above her.

So I called another number, thinking I would get someone else. And lo and behold, I ended up being transferred to Lana again. I told her that I wanted to speak to the CEO. She said I could not speak to a higher authority. I said I will be writing a letter to the CEO, and she said it will just go to her. I also stated in our conversations that I will be standing out in front of Sears appliance entrance, telling and showing everyone about these complaints that are out on the internet about Kenmore appliances and the lousy service you get now. She said to not threaten her. So I said it was a promise, not a threat. Hmm, I wonder if she had second thoughts and really did authorize the service for free.

Well, we will find out if they contact me. I will be telling them "Too bad!" And I will not be paying for anything, except the service call. Stay tuned. Remember my freezer door got stuck, then I tried to open it and the door fell off the hinge. That is my story. Spread the word. Do not buy appliances at Sears. Oh, I also told her I was a realtor, and I was going to tell everyone in the industry not to buy Sears appliances. Hopefully, she came to realize I was not joking.

In 2011, I purchased a Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator (stock #46-54789) from Sears, for my elderly parents. The ice maker and dispenser are extremely poorly designed. Ice chucks drop inside the unit on its own; shaved and crushed ice falls to the floor, outside the unit each time used, causing my 77-year-old mother to wipe hardwood floors each time the ice maker is used. Chute appears to be too short, was not designed to have ice go directly into a glass/cup, therefore ice dispenses everywhere outside the glass, on to floor, well of unit, and shoots sometimes on to countertop across of unit. We purchased a Kenmore Stainless door side by side refrigerator from Sears.com. They delivered five units before we finally got one acceptable. Not right just acceptable. The bodies of the units were so out of square, one door would be between a half to one inch higher or lower than the other and there was dried expanding spray foam sticking out up to three inches past the metal front plate. The real bad part about it was as long as the refrigerator was all packed up with the foam shipping blocks and strapped down, it looked fine. They would get it in the house, start unpacking it and that's when everything would go to hell. We eventually found out that the model we purchased manufacturing facility had been moved to Mexico. We purchased it in 2009 and because of all the problems we had, Sears gave us a five-year parts and labor extended warranty that we have had to use frequently.

Both door seals have gone bad. It took three refrigerator doors and four freezer doors delivered to our home before we got one that didn't look like it had been through Wold War III and you could tell they came from the warehouse that way. Also the plastic surround on the shelves keep breaking. We're on our third shelf. Now, the unit has quit cooling and supposedly has a bad evaporator and drier tube, model# 106.59123801. I'm wondering if anybody else has had same problems. According to Sears, this is supposed to be one of the most reliable units Kenmore makes. That's a joke!

I had to call for a service repair on 5/20/2010, because frost had built up in the freezer and the food in the refrigerator was not getting cold and the water dispenser would continue to flow after the cup was removed from the door. A repair person came out and fixed the problem, stated ice had built up in the panel behind the freezer so cold air was not flowing into the refrigerator area. I forget what he said the problem with the dispenser was due to.

After about a few months, my husband and I noticed the problem again, such as frost building up in the freezer and water dispenser still not working properly. Within a year, Sears replaced our fridge with a new one. After about 3-6 months same problems, the dispenser never worked properly, we just keep it locked now. I defrosted the fridge and it worked okay for a little while, but the same problem keeps happening. The fridge isn’t even 2 years old. We are tired of losing food and defrosting this thing every few months. We are talking of buying a new fridge but these things are supposed to last at least 12 years, we are not even close to that.

I talked to service dept. The lady was pleasant at first, then when I asked if they (Kenmore) would help with the purchase of a new fridge, her tone changed and she asked me in an accusatory voice "Why didn’t you call when you were having problems with the second refrigerator?!" Of course, that upset me a little, I have several of this company's products and would probably buy more, but not if they are not going to stand by their products and customer service upsets the clients calling for assistance.

I explained to her how I was trying to fix the problem by defrosting and not paying for service calls every six months, which if it is a quality product, I wouldn't have to do anyway. The water dispenser has never worked properly. It is nothing my family or I could have done to make this refrigerator malfunction, it is a manufacturing defect or possible just a lemon of a fridge. However, I should not have to pay $1,000-1,500 for a new one when this one is still practically new. It’s just not operating like a new. Why should I have to pay for a service call and repair when this like new fridge malfunctions? Sears should pay for the repair.

Service man told us today that this is a problem with this model's bottom drawer design, because you think it is closed but it is open enough to cause a frost problem that freezes the fan. It appears to be a similar problem to other LG refrigerators that have been recalled and the fan can be a fire hazard.

Our model has not been recalled, but serviceman said we better get extended warranty because this is a lousy model. If he is telling the truth, it should have been recalled. If he is lying, it's a Sears scam to scare us into buying expensive extended warranties. It also took the one week to come out and service, because they ordered a new PCB, but that wasn't even the problem.

The service man said that this model has been out five years with this problem with no change in the design. There is too much "play" in the bottom drawer door. He changed the PCB anyway, because he said he changes 30-40 bad PCBs a year on this model. He also changed the sensor in the freezer drawer door that communicates to the PCB.

I feel that in light of his information, Sears should give me the extended warranty for free. They also dented the door when it was originally delivered, and we could never get through on the 800 number to get compensation. And they count on us being too busy to follow through.

Our side by side Kenmore refrigerator, serial no. 253.44503609 came with our condo, probably purchased in 2007 but maybe 2008 when we purchased the condo. Last year, we discovered a rust spot on the exterior back panel behind the freezer side and a large amount of condensation. The interior was working fine but clearly it was just a matter of time before the rust would eat through the paneling and cause a hole making interior cooling inefficient if impossible.

We called Sears and a repairman paid a visit. After looking at the unit thoroughly, he concluded that nothing could be done. The problem was with a lack of insulation in a small area behind the freezer inside the unit, i.e. a problem with the manufacturing. When I called Sears back to see if there was anything else that could be done, the person on the phone said that the repairman who had visited wrote that we had refused service to the unit! Can this problem be fixed or not?! Their response: they could send another repairman out and put the $60 we would pay towards a new refrigerator if that's what needed to happen. Would we like to buy the extended warranty for $250 at that time?

This refrigerator was doomed before it left the warehouse and now I will have to replace it at full cost. Thanks Sears, for your crappy products. Would this issue have even been covered under the one year warranty? I will never purchase another Kenmore product nor one from Sears. Kenmore Elite Kenmore refrigerator (Model number 59676522500) required frequent service calls. It would have been nice if the repairmen told us that they were repairing the same part over and over again. It is a horrible design flaw. The copper tubing that goes from the compressor to the evaporator runs through the drain pan. The moisture corrodes the tubing causing loss of Freon. The repair is expensive (Sears wanted $900). If we had known the other four repairs were caused by this design flaw, we would have continued the extended service plan which had expired shortly after the last repair. So, this $2,000 refrigerator wasn't built to last even a year. It was repair every year since purchase. It is now 5.8 years old and needed to be repaired again. You'd think they would fix the problem, not just put band aids on it.

We purchased a Kenmore refrigerator several weeks ago, and the ice coming out of the ice maker had a horrible chemical taste. A Sears repairman came out to check it (it took weeks for him to come), but he could not find anything wrong. He sent us a new ice maker, which we installed ourselves, but this did not solve the problem. The ice still tasted awful, like gasoline. I called Sears again, and they sent a different person out. He did not know what was wrong, either. He took the water filter out and told us to see if that made a difference after a few days. Yes, that did solve the problem; the ice now tastes normal.

Apparently, poison chemicals were leaking out of the water filter into the ice maker's water line. The reason why we purchased this $1,000.00 fridge to start with was because it had filtered interior water and ice maker. Now it has no filter in it, so consequently, we do not have the filtered water that we paid for. To top it off, Sears refuses to replace the defective water filter. I will never deal with Sears again!

Two years ago, I bought a Sears Kenmore Side-by-Side Refrigerator, Model 106.58144.801. When it was under warranty, the repairman had to come out 4 times to fix the ice-maker! The technician told me Sears will only come out so many times when it is under warranty, and then, they won't honor the warranty any more. Now, after only two years it stopped making ice totally and I had to replace the whole ice-maker. It should last more than two years! Poor engineering to say the least. Sears needs to apply pressure to Whirlpool to correct the problem with their products, or refuse to do business with them. As it stands, Sears benefits from the shoddy workmanship by selling parts, but in the long run people will stop buying the products at Sears as they will have lost faith in them. I replaced the ice-maker from a local vendor -- not Sears! I will not buy major appliances from Sears any more.

On 21 August 2011, we returned home from after a weekend away and noticed that our Sears Kenmore refrigerator (Model: 71309) was not working at all. We have purchased this appliance in June of 2009 with a three year extended warranty. We assumed that since the manufacturer warranties the appliance for the first year, our protection would begin once that ended. Clearly, we were misinformed at the time of our purchase. The entire contents of the freezer/refrigerator were lost.

We placed a call to 1-800-4MY-HOME and were informed that our protection agreement expired on 30 June 2011 (not quite two months prior). We were told at that time that a technician could not even come to look at the refrigerator until 09 September 2011. When asked if there was any way someone could come and, at least, look at it before then to determine what was wrong, we were told no. On 22 August 2011, I called 1-800-4MY-HOME again to try to discuss any possible options since we buy all of our appliances from Sears. Meanwhile, I had to have another company come out to look at the unit for $89.00 to, at least, find out what was wrong. They came on on 24 August 2011 and determined that the mother board fuse was blown and a whole new mother board must be installed.

On 22 August 2011, I spoke with Ella after calling the 1-800 number. Ella was helpful. She informed me that we could purchase a one year extension for our appliance for $163.98. I asked if we could possibly have a courtesy extension to help move the service request along and perhaps avoid the $89.00 fee for someone else to come and look at the refrigerator, she advised no. Once we paid the one year extension of $163.98, we could schedule an "emergency" service call where someone would come out within five days. I asked why we were not notified that our warranty was going to expire, and was told that no notification was being sent out. Only as a courtesy, we were given the option of extending for the $163.98. I then asked if we could schedule the emergency service first and then my fiance would just call back to give our credit card information. She said no and that we must call back and pay the extension first before we could schedule.

My fiance called back that same day and was given an extremely hard time. At first, they told him that the amount to pay was $251.00. He said that I had just called an hour or so ago and was told $163.98. He was told again that it was $251.00. He called me to ask who I spoke with and I advised him that it was Ella. Finally, after being transferred three times, the amount of $163.98 was found to be the amount to pay. Then, when tried to activate the "Emergency Service call," they told him that no one could come out until 07 September. He said that there should be a note saying that we are requesting an emergency service because we had been without the refrigerator since 21 August 11. Reluctantly, a call was scheduled for 29 August 2011 between 1 - 4. We asked that a note be put on the account stating that this could not be cancelled.

On 29 August 2011, after taking the afternoon off from work, we received a call at 3:30 saying that the technician had called out sick and they had to cancel the appointment. (Why wait until 3:30?) Then, we asked, "Does it say that this appointment cannot be cancelled?" The reply was, "Yes, but there was no technician available to come." They could reschedule for 30 August 2011 between 1 - 4 again. We were not happy but we agreed. I also called to inquire about the food we lost and was told to give the list to the technician. He would have to call the food loss department and verify a few things.

On 30 August 2011, at about 3:45, we received the call that the technician was running much too late to get there, asking if could they reschedule. My fiance had been home since 1:00 p.m. After he informed me of this, I called the escalated customer solutions phone number and was treated with no respect stating that we were given the option of cancelling. This was done if your customers had to go back to work or had other plans. I said that the technician wanted to cancel the appointment again. It was already too late to return to work and we had taken two half days already. This was unacceptable. I advised that I didn't care how late they were going to be. I would be there and I wanted a technician to arrive, prepared to fix my refrigerator. The lady on the phone reluctantly checked with "scheduling" and I was told that someone would be there that day. She could not give me a time, though.

I left work and headed home. Half way home, my fiance called to say that the technician arrived at 4:20 and was there for 9 minutes. The technician determined that the mother board was blown, had to order a part, and no one could come back until 14 September to install it (This was Karl from the Blue team). Karl then proceeded to tell my fiance that if he was handy with a screwdriver (since the part was being mailed to our home), my fiance could open up the back of the refrigerator and install the part himself. Wouldn't this void my warranty that I just purchased? He then said that the part would arrive Thursday to our home. My fiance stated that he was not going to install it himself and when he said that he had the food list to give to the technician to call the food loss department, Karl said that he couldn't take that list. It wouldn't be covered anyway, and there was nothing he could do. We would have to wait until the unit was repaired to even attempt to call it in. My fiance was at a loss of words. Karl left after being there for a total of 9 minutes.

My fiance called me as I was still on my way home so I attempted to call Sears again and tried to explain that I was extremely dissatisfied with the events that took place. I was told to hold and the line got disconnected. (It was 4:45 when I called). When I called back, I was told that the offices were closed until 8:00 a.m. the next morning. Needless to say, I was not very happy. When I arrived home, I was shocked to find in the mail a "renew your warranty" letter. The worst part? It said that I had until 03 October 2011 to renew. The cost? $130.00, which was $35.00 cheaper than what we had paid. I am finding all of this to be a huge game being played by Sears. The notice led me to believe that I was covered until 03 October, and to renew, all I had to do was reply and pay $130.00. But I had been disconnected earlier.

At 8:00 a.m. on 31 August 2011, I was calling the escalated number once again. The person who answered, after asking for my phone number, did not even let me talk. She said, "I see here that there is an emergency part ordered for you and it will be delivered tomorrow." I asked about the 14 September 2011 installation and why was I disconnected last night. She said, "Hold on. No, we can have someone there Saturday. I don't know what 14 September you are talking about." I tried to explain what had happened but she said, "I can read it all right here, no need. Is Saturday okay for you? Between 9 - 11?" I said yes, but..." She interrupted me and promptly said, "Have a nice day, thank you for calling Sears," and hung up. I have never been so insulted by this entire process. At this point, if the technician does not arrive on Saturday, I would like my refrigerator replaced with a three year warranty.

As a bright note, I called the food loss department myself on 1 September 2011. I spoke with Ashley, who was, I must say, amazing. I told her the whole story and asked if the department would be open on Saturday so the technician could call-in the food loss as I was instructed. She said, "No, but I can see what a problem you have been having." She proceeded to process the food loss claim without any problems. She was absolutely amazing, nice and helpful. If my whole experience was like this, I would not have been so angry.

On Friday, 02 September 2011, we received a call confirming our appointment for Saturday 03 September between 8 - 12. So, by 12:05, when no one had arrived, called or anything, I called the escalated number that I had been calling all week. They informed me that my account was locked and it had been referred to corporate with a case manager. They could not help me other than to pass my number along and have someone call me back within two hours. I expressed my extreme displeasure and the representative informed me that she understood and would have the corporate case manager call me.

I decided to call the number that had confirmed our appointment just to ask why no one had appeared at our house. After holding for 17 minutes, the representative informed me that my appointment was cancelled. I said, "What? Who cancelled it? You confirmed it yesterday." She said, "Well that is an automated call. I said that I didn't care if it was automated or not. It was confirmed, and this is an emergency call that has been an emergency for a long time. I asked to speak to the person who decided to cancel this without letting us know and after holding for a considerable amount of time, my call was disconnected.

I called the escalated number and after holding for 15 minutes, I was informed again that my account was locked and referred to corporate. The representative assured me that she would take my number to her manager (who would get in touch with the case manager) and someone would call me back shortly. I had been at home waiting since 8:00 a.m. and it was now 2 p.m.

Then, I received a call from case manager Edwin's assistant**. She stated that she reviewed my case and that she understood my frustration. Edwin would contact me today. I explained that I would have never known the appointment had been cancelled had I not called them several times. I informed her that I was completely aggravated and that I could no longer afford to take any time from work. It has been 17 days without a refrigerator, I have been hung up on, given more excuses that I can count and lost time from work. I wanted either someone to come on my time to install the part or I wanted the refrigerator picked up and have my money refunded. At this point, I don't want anything from Sears in my home since it's nearly impossible to get it fixed or get any help on an emergency situation. I've had to eat out for three weeks, which I cannot afford. I can't go another day without a refrigerator.

As I am typing this email, I received a call from a technician that he was at our home to install a part. I am flabbergasted. I informed him that someone was supposed to be there on Saturday but no one showed up. There was no one home today. He said, "So, you are telling me that I can't install this?" I said, "That is what I am telling you. No one showed up on Saturday and we found out that it was cancelled after six hours of waiting. He said, "I just install parts. I don't know anything else." I said, "Well, there is no one home. No one knew you were coming. I know that it's not your fault but this has been escalated to corporate. No one can get there because we had no idea you were coming."

At 9:45, Rowland in routing just called me apologizing. He informed me that someone cancelled the appointment for Saturday, set it up for today without letting anyone know and that should not have happened. He doesn't understand why but he realizes that this was the wrong thing to do. He said that he can have someone come first appointment on Wednesday, 07 September 2011. Meanwhile, I still have no phone call from the case manager or corporate offices. This is completely unacceptable!

Today, 07 September 2011, I just got off the phone with 1-800-469-4663 since Rowland informed me that we would be first on the appointment. But now, they informed me that I am on the schedule for tomorrow between 8 - 12. How much longer is this going to go on? I still have not received satisfaction/ resolution from the case manager. I still do not have a working refrigerator (this is Day 19) and again, we are being pushed off until another day. I feel like this is being treated as a joke. This is still completely unacceptable. I am tired of hearing "we are sorry," this is beyond being sorry.

Kenmore refrigerator 2007 (manufactured by LG) malfunctioned when the inside lights did not go off upon closing the doors. Heat buildup caused the control panel encasement to explode off its binding and heat from the bulbs scorched the light bulb receptacle and melted the butter inside the butter enclosure, and sent it down the whole side of the door. A dog can container was actually hot to the touch from this and the unit had to be unplugged because the bulbs (from the heat) melded to the unit. It went out today (quit cooling) and they not only don't seem concerned about such a quick malfunction, they say they don't work on Sundays, are booked on Monday, and can't get out until Tuesday. It's very frustrating to lose a week's worth of groceries when the warranty proclaims "Call anytime, day or night." This is something to consider before buying from Sears or Kenmore.

We purchased a Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator with the ice maker and water dispenser in the door and freezer on bottom in 2006. Within less than a year, we had to have the ice maker fixed. A year after that, we had the same problem--we had to pay for it then.

After spending $2200+ for the refrigerator, you should not have to buy an extended warranty. The water filter for the refrigerator costs $50 and I was told the ice maker won't work unless it's been replaced. Now the whole thing may have burned up had my husband not been home. The light had not been turning off after the door closed (we had never changed the original bulbs), which caused the plastic around the lights to melt an bubbled the plastic on the refrigerator above it.

I had the same issue as the other complainants. I bought a Kenmore refrigerator in 2008. Four weeks ago, the compressor went out. It took two weeks to get someone from Sears to come out and evaluate the fridge. After this, it took 10 additional days for someone to come out and repair it.

My family had to live out of coolers in the backyard for nearly a month. We paid nearly $200 dollars in bags of ice. The refrigerator was finally fixed (for the time being).

I bought a Kenmore because my parents have always bought this brand. Sears has always been a trusted name as I grew up. It is unfortunate that the appliance has become so unreliable and customer service has been forgotten. I will never buy a Sears appliance again.

I purchased this refrigerator right after Christmas last year when our refrigerator died. First thing I didn't like was that I had to wait nearly a week for delivery. I wasn't really happy with the layout of it after delivery, but figured I could live with it. Then as soon as the weather started warming up, we noticed the freezer foods had a "wet" feel and ice was sticking together. Upon examination, my son discovered when the cold section door was closed, the freezer door popped open! Most of the time it would close on its own but occasionally it didn't. I was glad I had paid for a Master Service Agreement with the purchase!

I called the repair service. The technician came out and made a big deal of leveling the fridge, etc. – leaving without a fix for the freezer door. I stewed for a while then called repair service again, relating what had happened on the first visit. This technician decided he would tell me how "You can fix that problem yourself". Hello! Not when I paid over $400 for someone else to fix it!

Knowing this fridge was made by LG and sold by Sears with their Kenmore name on it, I contacted LG. Meanwhile I had gone to KMart, where they sell Sears products, and tested all the Kenmore refrigerator doors. This model is the only one the freezer door "popped" open on when closing the cold section! The person, who answered my email detailing the problem, put me in touch with a Sears CEO who sent Sears' "Blue Ribbon Team" out to look at the fridge.

The technician at that time stated there was no fix for it unless LG made a stronger magnet for the freezer door, which they didn't. And though he declared, when he spoke with Sears' advocate on the phone, that the fridge was working as it should, he would also recommend 100% customer satisfaction if it were up to him. When I finally got a call back from the Sears CEO, she claimed she could not exchange the fridge because the technician stated "the fridge is working as it should".

So I am stuck with a fridge that has manufacturer defects that the manufacturer and the seller are both aware of! Even I can look at the refrigerator and see that the space between the bottom of the freezer door and the top of the cold section door is larger on the left side than the right side. Whether this has anything to do with the problem, I have no clue. But I doubt it. I’m just saying I can see it. I have copies of all email communication between myself and LG, and myself and Sears for what it's worth.

I purchased a Kenmore Elite side by side refrigerator in December 2007 for over $1100 as well as other Kenmore appliances based on reputation and reliability reports. Just yesterday--about 3 1/2 years later--the temperature control went out. The technician said the main control board had gone out and required replacement: total parts & labor comes to $450, just less than half of the original cost. The refrigerator is no longer under warranty but it seems to me that a company such as Sears that "claims" to back up their products (e.g., Kenmore) would at least admit that this is a little unusual for a high end product. I complained that this is unacceptable to have such a major problem so soon.

I requested that they adjust the cost of repair downward to something more reasonable but I got the normal scripted response that since it is not under warranty there's nothing they can do. At this point I will have to assume that if I ever purchase another Kenmore product (which I won't) then I will have to factor in the additional cost of an extended warranty at hundreds of dollars above and beyond the selling price of the product.

I later noticed water was leaking into the freezer from the vent in the back, and freezing. I had repair come again. He couldn't figure out why it was leaking, so he decided to replace the "motherboard", it was ordered and installed. The repairman told me I shouldn't have anymore problems since the motherboard was replaced. The same thing happened again, it's not cooling properly, and there is water leaking into freezer again.

They have been to my home either 3 or 4 times, I called service, and was told since I'm out of warranty and didn't purchase the "master warranty plan", I would be responsible for service call, any service, parts, etc. they would have to do. I told them this has been an ongoing situation with this refrigerator, and it all started right after I bought it. I was told if the service man comes back again and says he can't fix it, they "might" be able to give me a 10% discount on another refrigerator. This is unacceptable.

The appliance has never been right, and still isn't. They told me if I had purchased the "master plan", they could have replaced it. This should have fallen under the warranty that came with the refrigerator, and I should have been offered replacement by the 3rd service call. I have always bought Sears appliances. They of course told me of all the things I am doing wrong by adjusting the dials. Not sure why they are there if I can't adjust them. Ice cream is so hard, it must be left out for 15 minutes before a heavy duty scoop will even touch it. Items in the fridge keep getting froze but not every day. Eggs, gallon milk jugs, gallon KoolAid jars, juice, and soda cans in the fridge section from levels top to bottom get froze solid.

Again, I called the tech, and after very intense arguments, they agreed to send a tech. Again, I am told nothing was wrong (dials at zero and that day the fridge was not frozen). After several calls, they sent a service man. He claimed I must leave the dials set to the factory position of 0. Again, not sure why they are there if not to adjust the temperature.

Finally, I purchased a fridge thermometer. The freezer was running about -15F with the dial set at the 0 mark. I tried to adjust, and the dial made no difference. Just different temperatures on any given time or day. Ranges from -17 to -6 degrees F without changing anything. The fridge runs from 25 degrees F to 35 degrees F from any given day or hour. I purchased Kenmore Refrigerator Trio, model # 795.77304600, from Sears in June 2008. Unit was manufactured in March 2006. One year later, June 2009, the unit stopped working with error code ERFF showing. I called Sears and a repairman came out about 2 days later. He said he replaced a board and told us if it hadn't been under warranty it would have cost $550. Eleven months later, the unit did the same thing. This time Sears said it wasn't under warranty. Since the symptoms and error code were the same, I figured repair costs would be $550 minimum and I didn't want to sink this into a refrigerator only two years old with a bad track record so far.

So I started reading about the error code on the Internet and found, unfortunately, much information about the poor quality of these Kenmore Trio / LG models. Apparently, due to unethical practices by LG, the dehumidifier fan doesn't run often enough to keep ice from forming around the freezer fan, hence the error code "FF". The freezer fan moves cold air to the refrigerator and in line with this apparent problem is that we hear the fan making a loud noise before the unit fails- which is the fan hitting ice. Whenever we hear this noise, (if we hear it- sometimes we're either sleeping or not home when it happens) we unplug the unit and open the freezer drawer for an hour or so. Often, this melts enough ice that we get several weeks of good performance.

When this doesn't work, we go to work chipping and melting the ice off the back of the freezer compartment around the hole leading to the fan. Sometimes the unit quits and gives us the FF error code if we don't get to the ice problem quickly enough. When this happens we work on the ice AND unplug electrical cord. Unplugging it for several minutes usually resets the error code. Attacking the ice and unplugging / replugging the electrical cord several times has allowed us to keep using the unit but it is a major pain. What a piece of junk. We paid almost $2000 for a refrigerator that requires manual ice removal 5-6 times each year. I'll never buy a Kenmore or LG refrigerator again and will work hard to convince my relatives and friends to avoid these brands.

In 2007, I purchased a Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator with model # 79577309600. On November 14, 2010, my wife smelled burning plastic in our kitchen. Upon opening the refrigerator doors which are side by side, we noticed the entire light fixture and control panel hanging from the top of the fridge in melted plastic. The lights were on for God knows how long and the bulbs were too hot to touch. I unplugged the refrigerator, unscrewed the control unit assembly, and removed the light fixture that is simply plugged into the digital control unit. I got larger screws and some washers so I could re-mount the control unit minus the light fixture and see if the refrigerator would still work. It did. I did not simply trust just removing the bulbs.

In Sears, they were able to tell me nothing other than the model information and year of my purchase and warranty expiration which is 2008. They had no information on a recall but I figured it would cost me more for a service call than it would to do the job myself. I would simply need a part number. Now after reading many of the same complaints on this site, I am not so sure I wish to do that even. I have also removed the bulb from the freezer compartment for fear of it happening there as well.

I have read posts here by other consumers who have had a replacement part installed only to have the unit malfunction again a short time after. We were fortunate this incident happened while we were home and I do not want to risk a fire. We will do without lights in the fridge for as long as we can and purchase a new fridge when we feel it is time. Rest assured it won’t be a Kenmore/LG brand.

Kenmore Sears frig (model 253.6419240) bought Oct 2008 and is not freezing enough; also non-freezer section stays at 42 degrees. Read numerous complaints from former Sears customers on your website so it's useless to go after Sears. I will bury my two-year old and buy a new one at a more reputable company and shame on you for not helping those in need!
