I chose International Van Lines because of their reputation. The truth is that they were a bit more expensive than other companies, but I did not want to take the chance and get burned like I did the last time I moved. My move was from Houston, TX to Los Angeles, CA for a three bedroom house. They did all the packing and packed very well. They showed up in a nice clean truck which made me feel even more comfortable. I received my load in about a week with no damage. My sales rep Alex was very detailed and made sure things went well for me. I would use them again.

Moving is very stressful and finding the right company is not an easy task. I spent day and night researching companies and came across these guys on a few 3rd party websites. My move consisted of a 4 bedroom home with packing. Although IVL was a bit pricey I chose them based on my gut. My rep Brian was great at explaining details and he wasn't pushy at all. Other movers would call me non stop and use pressure tactics to try and win my business. I've been in sales for 20 years and can't stand high-pressure salespeople. Well, my move went fine and I got everything with no damage and no added charges. I was very pleased with their service and would use them again if needed.

International Van Lines and their team did a great job overseeing my move to Ontario, CA. My move was fairly small, but it is all I have and I wanted to go with a reputable company. They were referred to me by a friend who also had a great experience with them. The fact that I didn't pay more than the estimate or have any noticeable damage was nice. I'm not big on leaving reviews, but I wanted to spend a minute and leave some positive feedback. My account rep was Justin who was amazing.

Updated on 05/03/2019: I called International Van Lines many times to verify the scheduled delivery day and time. I had to call repeatedly because there was NO communication from the Florida office. I explained in writing that the service elevator had to be booked in advance and that there were three hour time slots from 9 am to 6 pm each day. After 17 days I was told that the shipment would arrive between 3-6 pm on a Sunday.

I reserved the service elevator with the concierge and then called International Van Lines to confirm. I asked for an emergency weekend contact and was provided with the dispatch phone number. I called dispatch on Sunday morning to confirm and the voicemail box was full. With no one to confirm, we waited until 3 pm. The shipment didn't arrive and there was no one to contact and no one called me.

The following morning I received a call from the concierge informing me that there were two people in an oversized 18-wheeler van waiting in the lobby. I asked the driver why they didn't call or show up during the scheduled delivery time the day before and he became belligerent. The drivers spoke Russian and I had difficulty understand him and his helper. He said that they had only received the order on Sunday afternoon. The van was too large (a first at my highrise) to clear the freight entrance. The concierge came out and the driver verbally attacked him and the valet parking crew and the driver threatened to call the police.

The nightmare didn't end there. I had to pay an additional charge since the van couldn't clear the entrance. I asked the driver to show me the contents before he began unloading and he refused stating that I had to pay before I saw anything. He finally pulled a curtain back so I could peek inside. My inventory took only a fraction of space on the van. They insisted that I owed about $1000.00 more than the amount I was told had to be in CASH.. I showed them the paperwork I had that verified the final payment. Thankfully it was a weekday and they were able to verify that the amount I stated was correct.

The first package they brought in was a 200 year old gas lamp and it was not in the same box as the original and it was shattered. They reassembled my bed upside down in spite of me telling them it was wrong. The had to take it apart and reassemble it. At 2 am the following morning the bed collapsed with me in it because they hadn't secured the legs to the underside.

They refused to place boxes in the rooms that were marked on each package. They told me that they weren't here to decorate, they were merely dropping off. My assistant marked off each package as they brought them inside. You can't always rely on the box number because one box contained bedding that was clearly not mine and I later realized that all of my bedding was missing. Normally I would file a claim with the van lines but after my experience, I do not want to ever engage International Van Lines again. Keep in mind that they use subcontractors who then subcontract their work. You are at the mercy of a company that totally disregards the customer.

Original Review: You should be aware that International Van Lines uses subcontractors to pack and ship. I would never have used them if I had know this. After they have possession of your things, there is no communication unless you call repeatedly. Initially, the movers didn't show up within two hours of the scheduled arrival time. I called several times to find out when they would arrive. That’s when the first creeping delay began. I was told 1-2 hours. They were over 7 hours late and didn't leave my home until 1:30 am the following morning.

After I drove across country and then got settled in my new home I called the International Van Lines point person to get an approximate delivery date. I was told to 'expect delivery in 2-3 days'. After that time period expired I was told to expect delivery in another 2-3 days. Now it's 3-4 days with an excuse that the third party driver was detained at an inspection station and couldn't leave for 48 hours. Communication is key - especially during a stressful move. The bottom line is that if you’re planning a major move, you should use another carrier and vet them thoroughly. I’ve lost all confidence in International Van Lines and could never recommend them.

When I contracted with International Van Lines: it was under the strict agreement that my budget would not exceed 3500 for total shipment cost, they verbally agreed that except to say that the provider was not liable for any custom or finishing fees. I had gotten quotes from other providers but found them comfortable to chat with. They also initially mentioned that your provider would take care of all packing and handling. I was surprised initially the day of shipment, that they did NOT provide any handling or packing service, I cleared this up with at a cost of more than a thousand dollars to do the job that I expected your company to do. I was then surprised to receive a note saying additional fees were being charged because of storage. I got a bill for an additional 1500$. I am seeking legal advice as to next steps.

I contracted with IVL for a cross country move based on all the positive reviews. Their quote was off by 50% ($7,000). The packing was a little sketchy, and actual pickup was done by two guys in a Budget rental truck. I just had a feeling that something was off about this company and then it dawned on me that International Van Lines IS NOT AN ACTUAL MOVING COMPANY WITH TRUCKS AND EMPLOYEES WHO PACK AND DRIVE. They are a broker who collects an upfront fee (your initial deposit) and they then contract the move which whatever company takes it.

You are at the mercy of the actual moving company with respect to the actual charges, storage, and delivery. They subcontracted my move to a company called Cobra Van Lines out of NJ. Bottom line is whether you luck out and get a good subcontracted company or not, you will still be paying their broker commission ON TOP of what the move actually costs. I will never use them again. It is just a sneaky pricing situation and unreliable outcome.

We have used 10 different moving companies over the years and this has to be our absolute worst experience. It started off badly when they did not arrive on the agreed upon date - but rather after lunch the following day. They claimed it was in the acceptable window - but NO ONE communicated with us! We just waited and waited despite numerous calls and emails to the people that said "call them anytime we need something...".

Once enroute, they could not update us on an expected arrival date until the day before! Again they said they legally had a window and would arrive within that time limit. I just wanted them to give me an estimate! This week? Next week? The week after??? Nope, "We will let you know the day before..." How is that possible??? Like they had never scheduled a move before and knew how many miles they were traveling? Lastly as we now continue to unpack, we keep finding vases and lamps etc with absolutely no wrapping paper or cushioning of any kind... The care they took with our belongings was abysmal!

After 23 years and a dozen military moves, this was the worst experience we’ve ever had. They were very responsive until they had our household goods on their truck. Their estimate was off by nearly $7000. We were unaware that estimating the cost of moves by cubic feet is a known scam. Only after they had our belongings did we realize that they had not loaded and packed the truck honestly. Also at that time, we realized they had failed to label over half of the boxes. We were told they only label boxes if the customer requests it. The delivery driver apologized profusely and said that was not true. Many pieces of furniture were damaged and we will file claims accordingly.

As of now they have stopped responding or following up as promised. The “customer service” rep that dealt with us was the most unprofessional, rude, obnoxious person I’ve run across in a long while. His sarcastic, snarky replies never aimed to solve a problem or help the customer. His name is Jeremy **. Movers showed up and I thought they were from the moving company I decided to go with. When I asked them if they were from Mayfair they shrugged and said yes. The movers loaded their truck and I received a phone call from Mayfair telling me that tomorrow they would be by to pick up my stuff. IVL had just finished packing up my stuff so obviously I was forced to go with IVL. IVL is very frustrated to work with. They damaged 2 of my most expensive items. Their claims department is a joke. They make it so difficult for you to file a claim that I believe it is sham in order to get out of paying for people's damaged goods. I am very frustrated and would never recommend IVLs.

    Reviewed Jan. 9, 2019

I have over 14 major moves in my life, some were international moves. My recent move from Nebraska to Virginia using IVL was the worst move I've ever had. Pack was supposed to take 2 days but the packing crew showed up in a Budget rental truck at 2 PM after driving for 9 hours from Chicago. 3 guys to pack us out in 2 days, hmm. They worked the first day from 2 till around 7:30PM when I asked them to wrap it up for the night. They put some stuff on the truck that they had packed and promised to return next morning between 8-9AM. They never showed me an inventory of what they loaded onto the truck that night. THEY DID NOT return the next morning.

Instead, another crew called me around 10AM on the way from Chicago also and said they would be at our house around noon. They said the first crew left last night and drove back to Chicago (with part of our stuff). So, the first crew lied to us and also did not show us an inventory. They also put some things on our truck that we did not intend to ship.

Crew two got to the house around noon and was surprised to see so much stuff remaining to be packed. This was 3-man crew too. We let them work till 9PM and then they had the truck full (another Budget rental truck) and had not finished. They called dispatch and said a semi driver was coming through next morning between 7:30-8:30. They would meet him at their hotel and offload their truck onto his and come back. After repeated calls and text to them I finally heard back from them around noon and said the semi had just gotten there and they would put our stuff on his truck and come back to the house. They got back around 2PM and back to work, ran out of boxes too and had to go get more (too several hours).

Around 6 or 7PM they said the truck would not hold the rest of our stuff so we moved some remaining household things into the garage and the head of the packing crew assured us that he would come back from Chicago and pack the remaining items the next day. This did not happen. In fact it was two more days before anyone came back and we had already departed, leaving access to our home to the realtor who is selling our house. We had extra expenses for additional hotel stays and had to hire a cleaning crew to clean our house after we ran out of time to do it. On top of this, Crew 2 said we owed more money because our cubic feet was over by about 500 CF, so it cost me an extra $1400 just to get them going. This was also after IVL sent a person to our house and did an on-site estimate and came up with the cubic feet.

About a week after we arrived to our new home in Virginia we contacted IVL to ask when our belongings would be delivered, the response was "Are you actually in the house now waiting for delivery?" We said, "Yes, had been here over a week and no one had contacted us for date of delivery." The person checked with her dispatch person and he said he did not know we were ready for delivery either so had not scheduled us. I told them to check their paperwork, our desired delivery date was on THEIR paperwork. Later they replied back to me that it had been an oversight, an OVERSIGHT. They finally delivered our stuff 20 days past our stated delivery date.

We have had damages due to their poorly packed boxes. Many boxes just had our stuff tossed into it with little to no wrapping paper or other protection. My military shadow box was supposed to get a special pack, hmm, it was placed in a large box with other stuff just shoved in around it and it was a miracle that it was not damaged. We are missing several items, maybe more that were brand new, still in the box unopened. One was a vacuum cleaner that cost around $200. IVL said they would give us $.60 a pound for damaged or missing items. We also told them about several items that came to us that were not ours. They will eventually send someone to pick up those items. We have pictures of many of the boxes that show how they packed stuff.

My wife and I are in our 60s and we have pets. There has been a lot of stress on us and our pets due to the incompetence and mismanagement of our move by IVL. For a company that is supposed to be near the top of the best moving companies in the USA, they certainly did not show it with our move. They showed a total lack of respect for our belongings by the way they handled our things and the way they packed us out. Do not use this company to move you. We will be filing a claim with them and also asking for compensation due to mismanagement of our move and the associated stress.

Moving day in FL was fine but delivery to VA was delayed two weeks. Every day we had to call and get an update on their schedule, while living in temporary housing. Some days they did not return our calls. The day our van finally arrived, it was the wrong household. We were getting things from people who lived in the midwest. The moving company had to take it all back and go find our belongings. All of these mishaps are perhaps to be expected in moving. However, the packers were TERRIBLE. Our belongings were in many cases DUMPED into the boxes without protection. For example, my expensive jewelry, which was organized for the move inside a very nice portable wooden jewelry cabinet, still cannot be found. I do not understand why it was removed from its jewelry cabinet. I am so afraid that it was dumped into the moving paper and that tiny items like rings and gold chains were accidentally thrown away with all the moving paper.

I am devastated. There are still a couple of large boxes we haven't unpacked where our belongings were literally dumped in, so I have a small hope that the jewelry can still be found. When we unloaded the china, it was CRUSHED. The movers wrapped each plate with ONE--ONE!!!--layer of packing paper--no bubble wrap---and laid the plates upside down on top of each other randomly, so the plates near the bottom could not withstand the uneven weight of all the dishes on top. I am not a professional packer but even I would know that would not work!!! I am so UPSET. Please BEWARE of this company. Our insurance deductible was so high that we cannot be reimbursed unless our loss totals thousands of dollars. This was our fifth experience with moving companies as we've moved from NC to CA to UT to FL to VA. This is the first time we have had a bad experience. BEWARE!!!

It's a good sign when someone is with a company for many years. Anyhow, the crew did a fantastic job. They worked really hard to make sure everything was properly packed, loaded and nothing was uncovered. They spent about 8 hours packing up my 3 bedroom house. The foreman (John) was so polite and helpful. This is not the first time I had to work with a moving company. I worked with IVL before and several other companies in the past. IVL was the better of the few. I wanted to spend a couple minutes and leave them a review because they deserve it. IVL performed well! My move was pretty complex considering the size, autos and a large trailer. The moving process was grueling and took 3 full days of labor. IVL sent a massive crew on 10 people to get the job done. The guys that came out worked so hard and I was very impressed. Keep in mind that movers don't make a lot of money so I was happy to leave them all with a $150 tip each as well as bought them lunch and dinner all 3 days. Even though IVL said this was not mandatory I felt compelled considering their hard work. My stuff ended up on 3 trailers and arrived at my San Francisco residence in 4 days. Although the delivery crew was different than the pickup crew they were just as good. I was surprised to see only 1 item get damaged. The fact is the move went flawless. I did not even file a claim for the dresser because it wasn't that important to me. The guys at IVL really went above and beyond and I would 100% use them again.

Paid my deposit, made the second payment at pickup and then I went through hell with this company trying to get my things delivered to me. Terrible customer service, no one picks up when you call and no one called me to keep me informed about delivery delays. I was only able to speak to someone once and even he couldn't explain where my things were or when they would be delivered.

The person I spoke with eventually told me they had sub-contracted the job to another company. I ended up sending several emails back and forth trying to figure out where my things were. Had to call the other company several times. For almost 3 months my little girl and I suffered without our things after moving across the country when I was told it would take about 3 weeks.

The emotional trauma and stress this company caused me is something I never hope to experience again. I made a report to the BBB about them and filed a complaint with the DOT. The worst part is that not only did I NOT get an apology when my things were finally delivered but I still had to pay all of the remaining balance after all the stress and trauma caused. I ended up having to buy some things again especially for my little girl just to have some semblance of normalcy till our things came. My daughter would ask every day if our things were coming or if I had heard from IVL about our things. It was terrible. The stress affected me emotionally and my work. Worst moving company. With news of our mother plus receiving new jobs back East we wanted to find the most highly rated moving service no matter what the cost to not have to deal with any more stress. This all happened in August but we have not wanted to go back to this place of anger but we believe it is important for consumers to hear our experience... IVL may do great work in the state of Florida but we could not have been treated more poorly. They hired a third party company (SAFE WAY MOVING). They assured us we were in good hands but it could not have been more horrific of a situation.

The movers were great upon arrival even though it ended up costing WAY more than we were quoted but the nightmare began when our things were delivered. They opened the side and our possessions were literally crumbled into one ball in the trailer. We were the last stop and they did not have moving dividers or anything holding our possessions in place. EVERYTHING was damaged. We were speechless... The staff unloading said that this was the worst they had ever seen with damaged possessions and then they continued to tell my husband and I about how poorly they were treated by the driver and how he stole their tips.

When we confronted the driver calmly he was extremely rude and unprofessional just like his staff and they left without delivering our things into our warehouse. When we called we spoke with Jeremy **, he basically told us that we were out of luck because of the type of insurance we had and he did not even want to know what happened with our situation or even care to follow up with us nor did he offer any compensation. Moreover, we just wanted them find another third party company and to care about families in the future so they did not have to ever go through we had to AND THEY DID NOT CARE. International Van Lines need to do better research with the companies they dispatch it was probably the cheapest for them which then the customers have to suffer with poor service. Move from Beaufort SC to Belton, TX. You will receive lots of personalized attention right up until the moment you book your service with them. After that communication is spotty at best. When they send you the estimate based on your “estimated” cubic foot shipment it will be a low ball shot. To get the price down I eliminated all but 38 pieces of furniture for the move. The salesman used his “never wrong” estimator tool and I was told it would be 826 cubic feet. I then actually measured the dimensions of each piece of the furniture that I was shipping and calculated the total cubic footprint of all 38 pieces at 750 cubic feet. I thought I would be paying a little less than the estimate, because I did not deviate from the list of furniture I provided them.

Not so. Despite telling me that they have their own fleet of trucks and drivers and they do not sub-contract, a sub-contractor (unmarked truck) arrived to load my furniture. After packing and loading, the driver discovered that my 750 cubic feet of furniture took up 1200 cubic feet on the truck, and I would have to pay an additional $1500.00. That “loose” packing seemed like a scam to get more money out of me and it worked. Additionally the driver left off 5 pieces of furniture from the inventory which I didn’t discover until it was all on the truck. He assured me the shipment would stay together, and that it would all arrive safely. Fortunately that was true. I called them frequently about delivery and they showed up with it 17 days after picking it up, which was OK.

The other issue is the payment scheme. The salesman told me that all packing materials would be included, but when they picked up my furniture they were going to charge me additionally for packing tape and wrap. That was pretty rinky-dink, and the driver told me he would give me a break since they had already gotten an extra $1500 out of me. I also got a runaround about paying the pick-up amount by credit card because they didn’t want to pay the credit card company fee. Of course the drop off payment had to be in cash to another sub-contractor (Uzbeck Trucking). The whole payment experience smacked of unprofessionalism. Caroline at QA was the only bright spot for me. All she could do was check on things with dispatch and operations, but she did do that for me.

I did lots of research before settling on International Van Lines, and I was under the impression that they were a bigger and more efficient company. Alas! I also fell for the “helpful” sales pitch. It would have been a better move if they had been honest about the cost upfront. There are some moving companies that pay by the weight of your household goods, and that might be a better way to go if you have standard furniture that is not made of lead. Some of the other companies I dropped from consideration admitted up front that they sub-contracted. At least they were honest about that, but IVL was not. I would not use them again for a move.

I used this company to move from New Mexico to Michigan. I called to schedule an appointment well ahead of my move. Things seems to be going well then the movers were a day late. I paid over $4,000 upfront and they let me know what I would owe when my stuff arrived. They gave me a total of over $4,000 more in cash or cashier's check. The two crew that unloaded the items were very good and professional. They let me know my mirror broke and that I need to make a claim. Not a big deal. It happens.

After I unpacked my boxes My Football Signed LaDainian Tomlinson Jersey was not in Any of my items. I called to make a claim and sent pictures of both items. I had to keep calling and finally their dispatch called and was upset at me because he thought I was accusing them of stealing the jersey. I told them in no way did I think that, I just thought it got misplaced. I continue to call to try and make a claim for both the mirror and jersey. I have yet to hear back and I don't think I will. Very disappointed, in the profession I am in moving is a constant and I know I will never use this company and I will be sure to let everyone I know my experience.

Between United and their carrier MAP moving they have stolen 4,000.00 above and beyond the 4,200 contracted amount.

Of course there was more than the usual disappearances and breakage. The mattress covers were ripped open and urinated on. My items were held for ransom. The driver showed up at the destination alone and high, passed out in the cab, demanded more cash to unlock the truck, and I had to find local people to unload in a new town at 9 p.m. BEWARE.

I moved from across country recently. I brought only a few pieces of furniture with me. A small U-Haul showed up at my house late in the afternoon and I told the mover it wasn't big enough. He thought it was but found out really quick it wasn't so he had to call in another truck which got to my house around midnight. They were going to take my things to Raleigh and move them to a larger truck. The movers arrived at my destination on time BUT they broke 2 antique tables and acted like they didn't care. It made me think they broke them on purpose. Most of my belongings had to go in storage. They paid NO attention to boxes marked fragile and some of them ended up at the bottom of a stack of boxes 5-6 boxes tall. They put large boxes on top of small ones. They also would not give me time to check off my boxes so I could make sure everything was delivered.

The movers were still moving in my stuff and I unpacked my flat screen TV and it was completed damaged, which I showed the movers and he took photos. I went outside and could see inside the truck my entertainment center had a lot of items on top and it was very visual that it was broken, again I showed the movers and he took photos. I opened my microwave which was completed damaged as well. I called the company was told that I would have to file a claim, which I did. Received a call stating that the would only reimburse $325.00 as they go by the weight not the price of items. As of today I have not received any other offer and I am planning to file a charge against them. Would not recommend this company at all.

I'm having the most horrendous experience with International Van Lines right now. I'm beginning to think it was a mistake to book them. I moved from Cambridge MA to London UK. Container arrived in the UK and was scheduled for delivery today. They never showed up, as it had been cancelled at the last minute because International Van Lines had not released the shipment. Spoke to customer services on the phone who said he was trying to help but hardly listened, such that I never even got to the point of my complaint! He even said I was being ridiculous when I said I was trying to escalate to my point of contact's manager! I have also been trying to resolve with my logistics manager but her responses seem contradictory to both the factual timelines and information in writing from the local shipping agent!

IVL suckered me in by beating competitors' quotes, and then attempted to overcharged me on the final invoice. The driver arrived hours early with the container and they tried to charge me for this. When I complained they didn't resolve the complaint until 2 days before scheduled delivery at my house. I also got charged because they couldn't get the container to the ship on time and it had to wait in the US over the weekend. This was a big surprise to me and was not mentioned at the time. It all felt a bit like a bait and switch to be honest.

Despite the fact that I paid on time (considering the late receipt of the corrected invoice) they did not see the payment, nor did they see the chase-up email sent by the local shipping agent. Consequently they did not issue the release for my container, resulting in a last-minute cancellation of a scheduled delivery. This has further escalated my costs (parking restriction costs and port rent charges per day) which would have been avoided had the release been issued on time.

I made a simple reasonable request that International Van Lines be responsible for any additional charges caused by the last minute cancellation which was their fault, either based on the late resolution of the invoice problem, or based on the late processing of the payment received and the lack of responsiveness to the local agent's query. That request is yet to be adequately considered or addressed! I am beyond disappointed and would never recommend International Van Lines to anyone. I wish I'd stuck to the company that moved me to Boston in the first place!

We had a horrible experience with International Van Lines (IVL). Ryan ** (nice at first but once we signed up for the move was not available to answer any further questions) initial quote: 3285 dollars Told would get in home estimate but 2 days prior to move we learned one could not be done. IVL brokered job out to Moving Masters. Moving Masters arrived at 10 pm (8 hours late) in an unlabeled suburban truck (no moving truck, no uniforms). They said they had a flat tire and then the truck broke down. They packed for 3 hours the first night and returned at 1 pm the following day with a moving truck (they told us they would arrive at 9 am). They said they had trouble finding a moving truck to rent.

Took them 17 hours to pack and load truck. Stayed until after 1 am 2 nights in a row (originally told would take 5-7 hours total). Did not use picture boxes or TV boxes as we were told would be used by Ryan ** and Moving Masters (1 nice painting wrapped in bubble wrap and stuffed in wardrobe box). IVL unreachable by phone or email to verify if these movers were in fact associated with IVL. Called Moving Masters and we were told they did not know IVL and were unaware of our move. 2 additional 'movers' arrived the evening of the 2nd day and said he was not there earlier because job was not posted on Craigslist. I had to pay them 10 dollars because Moving Masters mover did not have enough cash. Movers left without me signing paperwork or giving me an inventory list (had to drive to a gas station to pick up the list from them). Inventory list was inaccurate.

Karen (Ryan’s assistant) and Ryan did not answer many of my calls despite Karen telling me several times she would call back. Requested our things to be delivered to new city on August 7th. Despite us telling them we would be out of town, they arrived on August 1st. They were delivered by a different moving company (Not Moving Masters). Were told our things were in warehouse in Chicago, IL when in fact it was in our previous city the entire time. The movers that delivered our things to the new city actually called us to get the storage locker code from us. We did not know the code because it was never given to us. Final price requested: 6,285.50 (although we never agreed to or signed a new binding estimate.)

We felt very misled by IVL throughout the process. They initially were very friendly and answered phone calls promptly. After there were multiple issues with the move, they were very difficult to contact. Spoke with managers as well with one manager stating “I have listened to you for 10 minutes. Can I please speak now?” They also told me IVL was only paid to find us a mover and they were being “nice” to even answer our phone calls now because they do not have to do that. I hope this review can help prevent others from having a bad experience during their move.

I used International Van Lines for a move from Richmond, VA to Chicago, IL and the experience was absolutely terrible. There were several incidents where I was lied to, hundreds of dollars of damage were caused to my belongings, they did not deliver within the date I was promised, and there were several other issues. Please read all the other negative reviews before using them.

A quick summary of issues is bulleted here, feel free to read about the issues in further detail below. Sales rep promising a delivery date that the items weren't delivered during. The Manager promising another [later] delivery time that wasn't followed either. Management then communicating several other timeframes that weren't met. Movers created hundreds of dollars of damage to multiple items. Management saying that the delivery will be leaving on one day on a truck by itself, then the movers informed me that items actually left the warehouse multiple days later with several other loads.

The office/"customer service" rarely picks up their phone and likely blocks you if you call consistently trying to find out where your items are. Movers up-charging above the "Binding" contract after poorly packing and not disassembling items in order to increase the number of boxes needed [Note: The contract says they disassemble and reassemble basic furniture which they did not do.] Movers/packers showed up late [after rescheduling 2x] and weren't prepared for the move/didn't have all the materials they needed to pack the items. Truck drivers being dishonest and saying they are headed your way when they are not - also communicating incorrect "expected" delivery times.

We moved from GA to WA, and it took 1 month from 6/30 to 7/30 with 2 separate loading and 2 separate offloading. The quote and the actual price difference was $4500. Though we mentioned about our furniture to Ryan as we signed our contract, this unbelievably rude loading crew won't load our large armoire, and they kept on complaining how heavy our furniture is. They contacted their manager, and the company manager literally yelled at us and told us they won't move our furniture.

As we're waiting for our furniture in WA home, no one gave us any updates and Ryan or Kathy never answered the phone or responded to our emails. Customer service rep LeKale is the only one who responded to our emails. When the 1st shipment arrived, the driver asked for the remaining balance upfront, but at the end, the driver said he forgot to tell us that he didn't bring everything and doesn't know when our rest of the stuff will arrive. We waited 2 more weeks to get our belongings, but all furniture got partially or fully damaged or didn't show up at all. The driver for the 2nd shipment said he needs to charge extra to unload our piano because it's a heavy item. We told him that it's been paid for already, but he wouldn't do it without an extra fee for our piano. We paid him. We've moved 30 times in the past, and this is the most stressful move by far.

Due to the delay, I was charged an additional 4 days rent at my Ohio address. I requested that IVL reimburse me the rent. I sent George the receipt. After 3 inquiries I have still not received an answer, let alone a check. When the truck finally arrived, the driver was rude. Again, I contacted George. He did remove some of the additional charges, but the move still cost me $1100 more than the estimate.

In Alabama, the driver called to say he would deliver my belongings on June 7. I was unable to accept delivery on June 7th because I could not get the addition $1100 until June 8. George called the morning of the 8th and asked if I had refused delivery. He told me the truck (with my belongings) was on its way to Atlanta, where my belongings would be off-loaded, stored, and in 2 weeks or more reloaded and delivered to me. He also told me I would be charged for the off-loading, storage, and reloading. George did manage to get the truck turned back and my belongings were delivered on the 8th. Boxes were carelessly packed, with items from all different rooms in one box. No organization to speak of... no labels on boxes to determine what possibly might be inside.

So many items were broken, TVs, tables, dishes. They wrapped loose small items in my sheet sets and shoved them in boxes, so the fun surprises of stuff literally spilling out into the floor when we unwrapped the sheets was lovely. We had a giant safe that we were told would be handled with care. So you can imagine our dismay as we watched them FLIP it end over end down the driveway. As my husband yelled and tried to stop them. But it was too late. The damage was done. The hardwood floor was gouged in the process.

They left all their coke cans in our house, garbage everywhere and even spilled coke in the floor and just left it there. I have never in my life been more upset with a company in my life. I was assured by Ryan that my move from NYC to Miami would arrive within 5-7 calendar days (the ONLY reason I chose this company seeing as though I was 8 months pregnant at the time of my move)- the move finally arrived 8 business days later... Big difference.

When myself or my husband would call to get an update on the move, on the rare occasion someone answered their phone, we were told by both Ryan and his assistant Karen they would call us by within a hour- NOBODY EVER RETURNED OUR CALLS... EVER, only until we were given a 12 hour heads up they were arriving. On the same note of non-communication, I also updated my inventory list to Karen prior to the move, again with no response, and the movers arrived with an incorrect moving list- all of which equated to an additional over $800 in moving costs (apparently a few extra boxes is worth that amount). The moral of the story- DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE, THEY ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST.

I didn't have a good experience like other reviewers. My pick-up went smoothly. It was easy, quick and the movers were helpful and friendly. Though I was somewhat disappointed with what I felt was a lack of communication from my assigned account manager. I have moved to 3 states within the last two years and due to my experience with the delivery of my items this was by far the worst. I had to reach out to dispatch for an update on delivery; again, lack of communication.

They gave me a 3 day window for delivery and told me someone would be calling me that day with a more proximate day and time; however, I never received a call until two days later when the movers called to let me know they were in the area and wanting to deliver within in the hour, which wasn't convenient for me without the proper notice, and it was after 5 p.m. I live in a downtown area in a secure building that is not public accessible after hours. Additionally, the freight zone to ensure a more convenient loading/unloading process is limited to daytime hours. If they would have called in advance all of these matters could have been communicated and addressed.

Yet, they insisted on delivering my items that evening due to other jobs in another state the next morning. The movers arrived after 8 p.m. they wrapped at 11 p.m. They were inefficient and ill-prepared. On top of that, they lost my television in which they packed at pick-up. Since I have reported my television missing I have only received one email from the company. There hasn't been any follow-up, nor options for resolution. I am continuously having to stalk them. I am extremely frustrated. I chose the company based on previous reviews, which was a mistake.

Our experience with IVL was nothing short of terrible. Starting with the fact that Ryan quoted us a price $5995 after glancing through our house on the real estate website, and never sending anyone out to give us an in-home estimate, we felt we were not given honest information. Significant charges were added to our estimate on the day of the move, at which time we were told that we included more items in our inventory that were originally not there. (We actually added only one item that was not part of the original list.) Ryan specifically told us that IVL is a moving company, not a broker, and yet on moving day, a crew showed up from another company in a leased Penske van. This crew came with no inventory list and insufficient moving materials (not enough boxes, packing paper, etc.) to properly handle our move. This is just one example of the lack of communication that goes on within the IVL organization.

One aspect of this insufficient communication that was very upsetting was the fact that IVL did not have a clear understanding of our two-part move, due to Ryan’s rushed manner on the phone at the time of booking the move. Trying to get this issue resolved was quite stressful due to the fact that individuals at IVL are rather reluctant to receive or return phone calls in a timely manner. To say that customer service is lacking with the company is an understatement! This coupled with the hidden fees, misinformation, and evasiveness of the employees from the top down made our move a stressful and difficult experience.

YOU BETTER THROW AWAY YOUR STUFF THAN CHOOSING THIS COMPANY. My experience with International Van Lines company was awful. Waste of money, time and energy. Short story: The customer service is so poor. Everyone in this company is raising their voice and start yelling!!! They have lost and damaged everything, furniture, bed, tv table, suitcase, floor lamp, China, and the list goes on... All the boxes with fragile sign on it, was taken care of, to make sure that it is broken!!! They lost all the screws for my furniture and technically they delivered me pieces of trash. Anything else that has not lost, it has a scratch on it, so I’ll remember their service for my life long.

Long story: I picked the company based on the reviews on the internet and I believe it’s my obligation to come and make everyone aware of their POOR service. I moved from Missouri to California, and I wanted my furniture arrive ASAP. First when I talked on the phone, they told me it would take a week and in worst case might be two weeks. When I got my contract I see it was mentioned 7-21 business days. I called back but this time they assured me that’s formal contract and they can’t write less than that because they don’t have control on moving truck if it gets flat tire or etc. but they said they will put a note to expedite the whole process. This was a LIE!!!

3+ weeks passed I have not heard back anything and when I called they said my stuff was sitting in a storage in Chicago for 3 ** weeks!!! After couple days I called back and they set a delivery for the weekend. The driver called and scheduled my delivery for the Sunday but again couple hours later he called and canceled. He scheduled it back for Monday which I was supposed to work so I asked him to give me a window so I take couple hours off from work. He didn’t show up on that time, and called and rescheduled again!!! Till this point it was all good compare to the rest. All my furniture's screws was taped to my bed. Believe me it was taped very well. But so conveniently when my stuff arrived there was no screw!!! So I am left with useless pieces of wood, which is technically trash. My China was broken. They lost a big suitcase. All my tables were scratched. My tv table doesn’t have a leg anymore!!!

The driver who was moved everything to my apartment, was throwing all the boxes right in front of my eyes. And he damaged my wall in the apartment as well!!! Can you believe this!!! Besides this I called to complain about the drivers bad behavior and the customer service started yelling at me. :))) If you want to pay to someone to make a trash and deliver it to you go ahead, otherwise don’t make my mistake. They will promise you the world and then not care a thing about you once they have your business. They will also change companies without notice (and without telling you). They will charge you a broker fee and then forget about you (they will then later claim it is a liability issue). BE CAREFUL -- they have all sorts of hidden fees as well. The best part is that at the very end they will try to offer you money to never speak about your TERRIBLE experience you had with them and Ocean Moving and Storage.

Moving out of our home went as expected. However when they delivered our goods to California they arbitrarily added $450 to the cost of the move for a “long haul”. The “long haul” was about 120 feet from the truck to our back door on mostly flat surface. So be prepared. Once they are in possession of your goods they will find a way to hold your goods hostage until you pay some trumped up charges.

We decided to use International Van Lines for our move in part because of the recommendation provided by this website. Our experience has been rather disappointing. First the good points: They moved our goods from point A to point B with only a week delay with respect to the best case scenario. Very little was damaged and nothing was lost. The staff was accessible and responded to complaints and questions in a reasonable time frame. Next the bad: They are very expensive. UPakWeShip provided an estimate for similar door-to-door service that was almost $2000 less ($3700 instead of $5600). We went with IVL/OSI because of their reputation and the mistaken idea that $5600 would be an all inclusive price. If anything goes wrong that results in an increase in the price, you the shipper will be held responsible.

The trucker they hired to bring our shipping container to the door showed up 8 hours late because of mechanical problems. (The driver told us that the trucking company was trying to save costs by using cheap diesel fuel that would not work in cold northeast winters.) As a result, my costs went up by $300 because the crew of four guys that I had hired to help load the container had to wait idly for several hours. (The truck was always "almost there" and would show up in "fifteen minutes".) Because of the delay, the container with its chassis was away from the seaport for a couple of days, and IVL/OSI would like me to pay an extra $100 per day chassis rental fee. (So far I have refused.) Tolls are not typically included. They may be as much as $100

Scale fees for the truck are not included ($150 in my case). iv) If the delivery of the goods at point B is more difficult in any way, there may be an additional $500 charge. For example, the delivery service may charge if they have to carry goods more than 20 meters, or if they need to shuttle the goods from the container to your house using a smaller truck, or if your house has more than two stories. In conclusion, if you have been reading carefully, you will have noticed that the final bill could be as much as $1000 more than the initial estimate.

The information about which ship the container would be on and when the container needed to be at the port was constantly changing. Apparently, the initial container ship was overbooked, which caused the week delay in the shipment of our goods. IVL/OSI is not particularly nice to its employees. When we pointed out that toll fees were in our contract, they claimed it was an error by one of their employees. They docked his pay by $72 to give us our money back.

They respond to complaints about billing with threats. Here is part of their response to my complaint on the Better Business Bureau website, "[T]he sea container has or is due to arrive very shortly, if the invoice is not paid quickly, the port will place a hold on the sea container, and not release the container to the agent in the UK, and the steamship will begin to accrue daily charges to the shippers account, called "Demurrage", and the port will accrue "Port Storage" fees up until the day the sea container is removed from the port.

Depending on the steamship line, these charges can go as high as $150 per day, since their equipment (container) is being held stagnant, while they need their equipment back quickly to place back in circulation, as since this is the way they generate their revenue. In closing, we wouldn't want the shipper to be injured like this, so the shipper must check his email quickly to view and pay the revised invoice with the toll fees removed." It may well be that other international moving companies are simply worse than this one, but my personal experience with this one has not been inspiring.

Called for a quote in Spring of 2017. Ryan looked online at my house pictures and gave an estimate for around 6000.00. No one ever came to the house to estimate. He stated I could have a price for a December move as someone had cancelled. I was planning a move in July. All seemed good. Communication was less than desirable and I was given over to Karen. Moving day came. They arrived at 1-2 pm to pack and load the entire house. They were from Estes. They advised me that they expected a cash tip for their services. They finished at 2 am. Then left and stated it was going to be more money. They loaded everything in a rented Uhaul type truck.

My stuff was to be stored for 2 weeks until closing. I notified them of the date and they now said I owed 8000.00 more. Held my stuff hostage until I paid and there was significant damage and loss. I contacted a lawyer and AMFA. They said it would cost more to fight this than they would give in compensation. Totally shameful experience and rogue manipulation.

    Reviewed Jan. 7, 2018

Please help me with my recent moving issues. Allow me explain quickly: My husband and I contacted International Van Lines in March for Storage and Moving services. We were living in Winter Park, Florida, a little Northeast of Orlando, Florida. I spoke with Ryan and he did the quote on the phone. I specifically asked and was assured that IVL storage was air conditioned, not just climate controlled. This is one of the reasons that I selected IVL, the other is that the reviews on Google were so positive. (I was under the impression that Google reviews are verified.) Logically, if I had know that IVL was not air conditioned, I would have looked for a cooler, less humid environment and gone to the north, not the south.

In April, IVL came to our house with three men (Serge was the driver) and picked up about 90 boxes that I packed and put them in storage. They had an IVL truck and Serge wore an IVL shirt. This is the last time I saw IVL logos on any trucks or uniforms. Our home in Winter Park closed on June 19, 2017 and on June 16, 2017 IVL came to pick up our remaining furniture and put them in storage until our home in South Carolina was ready for us. The truck was not an IVL truck, but a rented truck and four men came including the driver—Serge.

We were expecting them at 9-10 am—Sean the dispatcher said they would leave early and be at our house in this timeframe. The non-IVL truck showed up at about 2:00 pm. The person assigned to pack everything breakable (this was in the agreement) had never packed before (I distinctly heard him ask another of the men how to do the packing). When I unpacked the fine crystal wine goblets, two of them were next to each other wrapped in one sheet of wrapping paper (whereas this person used so much wrapping paper on things not likely to break)!

There were just four items I wanted crated because they were so fragile: Two antique mirrors, another unique mirror made from plaster of Paris, and a marble top for the dresser in our master bedroom. To me crating was using wood on the outside and very carefully wrapped in good materials to absorb shocks and jars from the moving process. These items were put into cardboard only—when I asked Serge why he didn’t used wood he said this was how they CRATE! When Serge finished “crating” the antique mirror we received as a wedding present, I picked a piece of it off the floor and put it away to be repaired after the move-in.

Later in the move-out, it started to rain and these men in no way tried to protect my flooring and as a result the carpeting was a mess and they scuffed the wood floor and marked the walls. The truck used to move a 4-bedroom house was not large enough to hold all our things—we had to give away the following items: a Metal Lathe, a jewelry armoire, a floor lamp. My husband was really upset about losing the metal lathe. They rushed the move because they were all calling their family and friends and insisted they had to get back by a certain time.

We asked for the move-in to be done on December 19, but the house wasn’t ready and so we cancelled it and rescheduled for December 28th. I was informed by Sean that when I cancelled that it was no big deal because my things were already in South Carolina. He was annoyed I rescheduled and that his timeframe is more important than mine. I can understand this, but I’m the customer and their customer service is really poor—I know, because I did Customer Service for years and never treated a customer as I was treated by IVL. When I contacted Jeremy ** from IVL, every discussion always ended up by him lecturing me and making me feel as though I was a completely unreasonable person.

I received a call from Sean on Dec 26 to tell me about the delivery plans for the move-in on December 28th and to inform me that MS Relocation would be doing the actual delivery. I missed a call from MS Relocation on December 27th because I was in a plane on the way back from New York. I returned the call about an hour later and was told by Danny (**) that the delivery would be the following day around 12-2pm. On December 28th at 10:40 am I called Danny to find out how the delivery was looking and he told me they were 10 minutes away. Mike (**) the driver and the person in charge from MS Relocation was called at 3:19 pm and told me he would be there in about an hour and was just crossing the South Carolina state line.

I called Danny and told him that I thought it would be too late to do the delivery and that it would be dark soon and he assured me that there were 4 men and it would be much faster than normal. 2 men showed up in two trucks at 4:30 pm! I was assured by Sean that there would be a kit to protect my new floors and walls and nothing was provided by IVL—my husband put cardboard on the floors and instructed them how to bring the items in to do the least damage to the house and items.

By 9:00 pm we were so upset with the entire ordeal, that we wanted them to just finish and leave us alone. They finished at 1:30 am the next morning after telling us when we asked them to put the beds and piano together, that they don’t do that and that it is the job of the homeowner to remove the cardboard and tape left over from the move. No boxes were unpacked, just the furniture was unwrapped. We are not neophytes at moving and have moved before and never have been treated so rudely and lied to so much. I need a bed to sleep in and my grand piano put together as soon as possible.

At this writing, no one from IVL has called me. I called Jeremy ** and was told to call a handyman to put the piano together and that he would discount it to me. What discount is he talking about—we paid everything in full and at no time did we ever give them a minute's worry about the monies owed to them. WE PAID PROMPTLY FOR EVERYTHING! As an aside, Dana from their accounting department would send me emails for the first few months our items were in storage asking for the storage fee due. I told her it was sent and she wrote me back saying that she found the payment and it was at the company before she knew it—they are not very organized if this is the case.

Honest & True illegally upcharged me almost double what had been originally quoted and insisted that, if I wanted my things moved, I would have to go to the bank and get a new cashier's check. Since everything was packed and my lease was up, I did it. I had asked that delivery not occur until after 9/1/17 and was told that I could expect delivery in North Carolina 5-7 days after that. My actual delivery date was 10/12/17!! I called weekly to find out where my belongings were and was consistently told it would be in 5-7 days! Honest & True even made up places where they last tracked the load.

Turns out my things didn't even leave CA until some time after 10/1/17. Now, after several request letters and unreturned phone calls, I still have not received the promised compensation for the delay. Unless I go to Florida to file a small claims suit, I am left without recourse. DO NOT USE INTERNATIONAL VAN LINES OR HONEST AND TRUE MOVERS. THEY WILL UPCHARGE YOU, LIE TO YOU AND NOT HONOR THEIR OWN CONTRACT. Horrible experience!!! I have given up any hope of obtaining any satisfaction or money from these people, so I am writing this review in the hope that others will learn from my experience and thus avoid the stress and frustration I was subjected to.

But there were some things that were messed up, like the scheduling of the company because they put so much to do within a short period of time that they had to pack everything. The workers left with our stuff, then they had to go to two more on that same deadline before they could get ours at our new place. If they had more time, there wouldn't have been a problem. Everything was done mostly through a smaller local company in Nashville which is where some of the materials ended up. It revolved down to whoever company they used for such system to run on their end. So I worked with that company directly when I got down to that point, through the times, dates, and quantities. And I was very, very happy with that. The way it worked out was perfect and I am glad that I was able to find a company of their nature and caliber. I would use International Van Lines again.

International Van Lines had a good rating online and they quoted a good price better than United Van Lines so I went with them. However, I have a real mixed feeling about International Van Lines. They did well when they packed up and moved my things. Since the house was to wait, I have to keep my things in store so they still have my things in storage and they’re moving it the end of November. The crew that handled the move was excellent.

The thing that was aggravating is that my friend was in Gainsville and that’s where I’m staying right now. International Van Lines was supposed to do a pick up with my truck since he doesn’t have that much stuff to take and then we were going to have the combined move. For some reason, they took my stuff all the way down. I was moving to Venice, Florida and they took it down there. The whole price changed for his move since they have to come all the way up to Gainsville and then back down again. It was a bit of a price difference and I was not happy about that. Ryan, the gentleman who set this whole thing up, has not called me back. Right now, I have Karen who's been trying to be very helpful but it’s been hard since she wasn’t the one that originally told us about the pickup in Gainsville. I’ve tried several times calling Ryan and he doesn’t recall phone calls. So, I’m very unpleased with him and things have not gone smoothly.

The crew that handled our move was primarily non-English speaking with the exception of a couple so I had not a great deal of interaction with them other than them packing up and moving things back to the truck. They made a huge dent in my hardwood floors by moving something away that shouldn’t have been moved, but otherwise, things came over fairly well.

Also, I had told them that the house would not be accessible via semi so they were supposed to use a back truck. Still, they used a semi and then they couldn’t use it to get here because we're in a fairly remote mountainous area. They had to unload stuff from the semi and load it on to another truck and we ended up having to drive the truck driver to a place to pick up a rental truck. It was an interesting experience.

I moved and International Van Lines was the one that transported my car. Whenever I talked to the reps, they were always very defensive. They wanted to speak before I could speak, an attitude which was not good. My experience with the driver from the subcontractor that picked up my car was a really bad experience. International Van Lines promised to resolve the issue by giving me credit for $150, but it never happened. It was promised that the car will be picked up a certain time so we had to make arrangements to be there. Then the guy that was picking it up said that he would be a little late. We said it was all right and we'd just do our errands and asked him to let us know before he comes. We went back home but he didn’t come, and he said there were another company and a more important pick-up or whatever he had to do. That was just the first part of it.

The second part was, on his way to the house, he was asking me which way to take, which was our building. They’re the experts and they know how big their truck is. I never had this experience when the car was shipped from New York to my house in Albuquerque but I had problems with this guy. He wanted me to meet him about a mile away and bring the car over there. The third thing was when I was talking to International, they said I could put stuff in my car as long as they were not heavy so I put some Christmas stuff and boxes there. We were on a tight schedule that day as we had to drive out of Albuquerque and he made it worse because by the time we came, he was late and we were rushing. On top of that, he told me to take the boxes out and shove them back in my garage to get them going.

By this time, I was really fed up with the whole experience. So, three strikes and they were out. My advice to International Van Lines is to listen to their customers and to whatever complaints they have because normally, the customer is always right. It was not the first them that I used a car relocation company so I have somebody to compare the experience with.

I used International Van Lines for my move from Bloomington to Wisconsin, and my experience went really well. I graduated and I got a new job and needed to move. I was doing some online research, and there was a website where I had to fill in some details and I would get a call from various companies. I got a call from International Van Lines and as I was looking at the reviews, they were good and I've seen that the number of negative comments was less. I got in touch with their representative and we went through my list and the estimation was done. And the process was smooth but I felt that the estimation was high. Otherwise, it was accurate and there was no change in the estimation.

The movers came on time, and there wasn’t any delay. They packed up everything fast and it was done in less than an hour. Also, the seven days duration that was promised was followed very well. But when they arrived at the destination, some of my stuff was missing, and I talked to their customer service team and they said that they'd be following up with the driver and find out where the actual luggage is. I was also following up with the driver, and he sent me the tracking details. I was a little bit worried initially about them because I had some of my important documents and things, but I got them so I was happy.

The estimation can be improved because it’s done on the phone and then once the crew arrives, they don’t do it again. The cost was based on the number of boxes and stuff and wasn’t based on the weight. I didn’t know the size of the boxes that I had if they were falling under medium or small. There were boxes that were in between small and medium but still I had told them I needed large ones where their estimation was based. It might have been the reason for the high estimate, too, and if it’s true, they may revise it and not increase it. And if they decrease it, then it makes me happy. Other than that, I would definitely recommend them.

Then they asked us what we wanted tied to the LIFT GATE of the truck and what we were LEAVING behind because there wasn't space. We had to leave thousands of dollars of our stuff behind because they only sent a 20' truck for a 3br house and garage after my husband spent 20 minutes going through our house and garage detailing every item we owned. On a previous move, a different company sent double the size of truck.

We were leaving to go cross country the next day and they gave us no option of taking the remaining items. We set up delivery and at this point it has been delayed by the company the day before telling us that they don't even have it loaded in another city. These are just the main points. I called International Van Lines and I liked the people I talked with. They said it seemed like they could make the move happen and they did. The only negative feedback that I have is I thought they were going to come straight from North Carolina. It was eight or nine days before my furniture arrived over here. They were a day later than we thought they were going to be, and I don’t know why that was - whether it was on my end or their end. But she had to get back and so we had to leave packing everything.

Nevertheless, they did a really good job. There was a gun that was missing, but I was going to rid of it anyway, so it wasn’t a big deal. There were two, three other small things missing, but I'm sure there always is whenever a person moves. But I don’t believe that International Van Lines was responsible for that. They gave us a deal on storage so the fact that we could have everything moved from my house and storage was really helpful in not having to move it into a storage unit ourselves. The whole process was great and the customer service guy I talked to initially giving the box quote was really great, too.

The 1st phone call went fine after quite a long conversation about why I needed a personal inspection i.e.; a large home, piano, steep driveway, etc. cross country move (PA to ID), and confirming with manager, as he left the phone and came back to agree to send out an agent to personally view my items. I didn't want to have the problems that so many people seem to have with "over the phone quotes". I was told that the local agent would contact me with a time and date.

When contacted, by email, again, not local, he sent a "fill in the blanks" form. I called the second agent Jeremy **, I started to explain why I needed someone to come out, he rudely interrupted me, saying "we are going to pass on this move, goodbye." After dropping other movers, time spent with the 1st agent, waiting for response, this is how this company treats people. Well there was one good thing that came out of this is, imagine how bad they would be if I had actually used them!!

I had just retired and needed to move all my household goods from Maryland to Texas. I went to the internet, did my research and a list of moving companies came up. I boiled it down to three and got quotes. International Van Lines was in the middle but only they came out and helped me verify my inventory list. They also added a level of security and comfort. The moving crew who came was good. Though the driver that was doing the pickup had been stuck in a snowstorm, it’s nobody’s fault. They could only start loading the truck when he got there at 6:00 o’clock at night. Overall, I was very satisfied with the move. The crew at International Van Lines are efficient and they offer courteous service.

My dad was moving out-of-state to Boston, Massachusetts. It was a whole-house move that included one king-sized bed and about 10 years’ worth of household items. So I went online, did my research, and found some feedback about International Van Lines and my friend also used them. The crew that handled the move was very good. They came on time, and they wrapped up and secured everything. The only thing I wasn’t too crazy about was they decided to put our stuff in storage until we found a place in Boston. I only knew it a day before so I informed them about it and they insisted that they were going to charge me for a whole month of storage when we only used it for one day. But overall, I had a good experience.

    Reviewed Sept. 13, 2017

My husband and I moved cross-country six times during our careers; there were more missteps in this International Van Lines move than all of the others combined. People were generally friendly; however, communication throughout was poor, and planning and execution were unacceptable. The short story is that the estimated space required to move a four bedroom house with full basement was sorely off causing a second partial load to be transported. The initial guaranteed estimate was over $10,000, but another $1600 was added on at the end of moving (out) day due to the necessity of a second truck. We were told there were no additional items, just that the items took more space than anticipated.

A third delivery was required after I notified the company's president that a number of items were still missing. Some of those items never showed up and International has chosen to do nothing further. Some minor damage can't be avoided; but there were numerous pieces seriously damaged due to improper packing or due to loss of parts. Framed wall art was stacked four or five together and wrapped as bundles causing glass to be broken and art to be slashed by the glass. All three floor lamps were broken, the washing machine was scraped and dented, leather sofas were scratched in multiple locations. Knobs were removed from the gas grill, legs removed from the picnic table, mattress detached from the frame of a bed made to lift the head section all with the pieces required to re-attach, lost (and items left to be figured out by us).

We had been assured that the same people who packed and loaded us would also be the ones to unload our belongings. That was definitely not the case and, as a result, there was no accountability for anything that happened. If you're interested in more detail or examples of why I could never recommend this company, read on. The guaranteed estimate was to hold firm unless there were pieces of substance not included in the estimate. As I said above, the team lead who packed us and loaded us (until he ran out of room) said there were no additional items. We were charged more money nonetheless and there was nothing we could do about it. They wouldn't load the remaining household goods without agreement to pay and they wouldn't unload anything at the new destination until it was paid.

When I ultimately lodged a complaint with the company's president, he said he would look into why we were charged and into possible reimbursement, but I never heard anything again about it. Prior to the International Van Lines team showing up, I packed my costume jewelry. I used a shoebox-sized box, layered necklaces between tissue paper and topped them with small zip lock bags of earrings. The box was wrapped with duct tape and placed in a dresser drawer amongst clothes. The dresser was delivered with clothes still in the drawers; however the box was never seen again. The necklaces were found tangled in a box of workshop tools (packed two stories below). The earrings were not found anywhere.

On a much larger scale, we had five wheels/tires and the original rear axle for a classic car. When they did not arrive with the second truck, I started making calls. After some persistence and contacting several people, I got confirmation that they were still in a warehouse in Pennsylvania. After contacting the company's president (I didn't know where else to go to get answers), I got commitment that they would be delivered as soon as possible. When the third truck came, it arrived with four wheels and tires. The fifth wheel and the axle were not part of the delivery. Again, I have been unable to get further information on these items and, ten weeks after our move, presume, that we will not.

Lastly, each of our (three) deliveries were partial deliveries, meaning that someone else's belongings shared space on the same trucks. In the first delivery, only a couple of things that weren't ours ended up in our house. (They were returned to the truck before it left; but had we not noticed them in the confusion of the day, they would likely have never made it to the rightful owners.) In the second delivery, tags for both families were of the same color. The movers opened boxes and asked if it was our stuff. In other words, we had the option of picking and choosing.

Clearly none of this is what we expect when we entrust a company to move our belongings. It's certainly not what we pay for. They had three delivery chances to make us whole. All were disappointing for various reasons. The president, who was responsive in calling me when he initially received my letter, had opportunity to improve upon the poor experience and he disappointed as well. I couldn't possibly recommend this company to anyone wanting a professional move.

On the pickup, of the items that IVL packed, most of the furniture and electronics were reasonably packed and prepared for the move. But when it came to the other items like lamps, shades, and especially my prized pottery, glass, and the most expensive items, the oil paintings, the packing was not adequate. The pottery and glass were only packed with paper and then were packed on top of each other in a 29" tall box. The two oil paintings were again only packed with a few pieces of paper and then worse yet, both were packed in the same box. I pointed this out in both cases when the packing was being done but the packer insisted everything would be fine. Well it wasn't with one of my most prized antique candlestick being broken in half. And the oil paintings were damaged with both having paint loss rubs and the large one has a dent in it where the second painting must have pushed against it.

Besides the candlestick and the paintings, one of the marble lamps was chipped, a lamp shade was crushed, a glass lamp shade was totally shattered, a corner of one of the oak cabinets was crushed, and the wooden frame around the hall tree mirror was cracked in the move. Also the large leather sofa has been damaged with bad rub marks on the leather. What was especially aggravating was that I pointed out that these items were not being adequately packed but nothing was done.

On the delivery of the items, the driver was insolent and not communicative. And his two helpers did not speak English and could barely understand what I said. The truck doing the delivery was not in good condition with all kinds of patch painting. And the boxes were not being carefully handled with some being thrown around in the truck. When the large leather sofa was being moved into the front door the driver was ready to leave it outside because they were having problems getting it through the doorway. My husband had to intervene and tell these "professional" movers how to angle it to get it inside. Nonetheless they damaged the front door frame as well as the sofa.

And then the final issue was the two helpers who stood in my house even when the driver ordered them to leave. And for a few tense minutes they would not comply. The driver then said he was calling the police and they moved outside to the front of the house. I then discovered that these helpers were day laborers who because of the time and effort of my move felt they were owed more money than what the driver had promised. The police came and had to negotiate between the driver and the day laborers. And this was all being done in the front of my new house with my neighbors watching. A great start for us in this very close and quiet community.

So in conclusion I was not happy with the IVL move. With all the good comments from other moves I don't understand why my move went so badly. If you want to get a quote from them insist that all employees on both ends are IVL and that the move won't be contracted out. I believe this was the real problem with my move.

The two movers handled the move well and did a great job, but we probably could’ve cut a few hours, for sure, if there was an additional or third person. But I think the number of movers is based on how many square footage of furniture one has. But overall, IVL was transparent, and efficient and their process was easy.

This company contracts everything out to other moving and storage companies. Their quote to move a one-bedroom condo from D.C. to FL went from $2,840 originally, to $4,800 the day before the move, to $8,035 after they loaded everything on the truck on moving day. Also, I had packed everything myself! At that point, you are stuck! Nobody calls you back or answers emails. They do not come to your home to check on items to be moved to give you an accurate quote. My mattress was soaking wet on arrival even though it had a plastic cover. Seriously, $8,035 to move a one-bedroom condo of 970 sq. ft.??? DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!

This did not occur, instead 3 guys from the Bronx came in a budget rent a truck and many days later A single individual came and delivered stuff. Avoid at all cost. First of all, they are a broker not a mover, which means they'll subcontract your move to some other company that you know nothing about. Second, they'll do your estimate over the phone and then you'll invariably get charged more once your belongings are loaded on the truck. Third, expect your move to start late by hours or even days, and for delivery to be at their convenience and not yours. Best thing to do is find a mover with local offices that will send an agent to your home to survey and provide a binding estimate. BTW, the majority of positive reviews you are reading here are paid for and fake. Still not convinced? Go and read the complaints at the Better Business Bureau and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Hired IVL for a cross country move, and specified that an on site estimate would take 2 weeks. Was pressured with just over the phone estimate rather than an on site estimate. Quoted $5600. Subcontractor movers arrived and stated that the cost would be more but could not provide an estimate until they began loading. We checked in with them mid load and he said that they would figure out the cost at the end which ended up to be $9800. All the paperwork provided as my 'ledger' and evidence of shipment was illegible and impossible to track against what was actually moved despite numerous requests to try to get clarification and details on the ledger during the. The paperwork is only provided at the very end of the pack and you have little to no choice but to sign due to all of your belongings (which you can't track, by the way) has already been loaded onto the truck.

Movers/packers of were inexperienced (i.e. day laborers) and paid cash by the foreman at the end of the day and left in a separate vehicle. They also did not complete the packing of items and left drawers and closets untouched. I complained more than 6 times via email with IVL with no resolution, complaining about the service, as well as scratches left on my floor. Trash was left behind, and an inventory list that was never shared with us during their "packing." The sales person quoted 2 weeks for delivery and the items were not delivered until 4 weeks later and could not provide accurate updates of the date of arrival. Upon arrival to the destination (we were quoted 12 pm and they arrived at 5pm). Two "movers" arrived and could not decipher the inventory list that the previous foreman generated.

Additionally, they tried to charge for a flight of stairs, which was quoted as included in the original estimate. Because of their inexperience and lack of knowledge on fragile items, they DROPPED our Steinway piano and broke an antique dining room table. IVL touts code of ethics on their website, but subcontracts all of their work with unprofessional, and unlicensed employees that are clearly not on their payroll. Do not use International Van Lines as a moving company!

This moving company preys on military service members that only have a short time to make moves and make decisions. I got a quote from IVL that seemed reasonable at the time just to be told "it's just an estimate" only for it to increase by several thousand dollars. Our accounts representative also told us that the move would take seven business days. We were without our belongings for an entire month at my new duty station halfway across the country. Just make sure to pack enough underwear and deodorant because International Van Lines will cheat you out of house and home.

On the day of the move, we thought someone from IVL would show up. Two men from Safeway Moving showed up and badgered, coerced, and bullied my wife into signing their "bill of lading". What we didn't know is that we signed for thousands of dollars more than we were quoted at. This was after our account rep. told us that they would measure our belongings and refund us the difference in cubic feet. Liars! Then when our things finally did show up, we lost items and suffered over a grand in damages to our belongings. We found it disheveled, disorganized, and damn near falling over in Mayflower double semi trailer. We even got someone else's belongings.

I was relocating from Ohio to Georgia and scraping up my household in Ohio and downsizing and moving to Florida, where I had just purchased a house from and I'm waiting to move in to. I had to have a moving company that could take a portion of the household goods that were going to my son in Northern California. That’s why I used International Van Lines for. The other part of it was going to an estate sale and those people had their own moving people and then it was going to be stored in Georgia. I wanted a Georgia moving company to come up and get it to stored temporarily in Atlanta. I got International, to do a partial move to Northern California.

The move went very well. The only problem was that they were too disappointing. They called and asked if they could come back the night before the scheduled time because the driver sort of had a family issue and was in Cleveland. It was going to snow. It didn’t make any difference to me. I said he could come get it now and he did. I described the load to the person on the phone but it turned out that it was not the same way it looked to the driver when he got there. I had said it was going to be 16 12-bottle cases of wine, regular wine shippers of the standard type. My son in California is in the wine business in Napa and he had helped me buy a lot of wine and I was sending it to him.

The estimator called them 16 small boxes which were, in the driver’s view, a completely different size than the ones he thought, but wine shippers are standard size so that was disappointing. I called back and had told him what the different items were that we were adding on to the load and he said not to worry, that we were way under the minimum. So we didn’t worry and when we got there and he showed up, the driver was telling me was that everything that I had told them I was shipping the fellow had estimated it to be much smaller than it actually was in reality.

He estimated it as one of those under counter wine fridges which it clearly is not. I told him I was shipping a toy chest which was an upright toy chest, but it looks like a little house with a soldier on the front and in the driver’s mind it was a little toy chest like you put at the foot of the bed which it clearly was not. It's not any bigger than that and looks different. The upside of the whole thing was he went around and measured everything and said that it was gonna be $200 more which didn’t seem outrageous to me, but it seemed odd that the estimate was below the minimum and we ended up being over it. I wish the estimator had either asked more questions or been more thorough.

The other problem was they said it would be delivered within 15 working days. They picked it up on December the 5th and it wasn’t delivered until the end of January and that was $25,000 worth of wine that they potentially could ruin. It was in Cleveland in a warehouse for weeks. They went way past the time and compensated us on the other end, but that really wasn’t the issue. The issue was how much product they could have ruined and it's very expensive wine. The timeliness on the other end was very unsatisfactory. I've relocated nine times over my life across the country and have had all kinds of moves and some I have enjoyed really good, outstanding and some had been just horrible and I would not put this at either one of those.

I used International Van Lines when I moved from Seattle to Florida and my experience was really great when they came and picked up everything. They were super helpful and everything was very concise. However, the cost of my cars was raised for no reason and I paid $300 extra for each car. I complied and didn’t complain.

But then I got a call about 10 hours before the move arrived and they said that they were gonna have to charge me $700 extra because they had to change from the bus to a shuttle. What bothered me about that was first, at no moment did I ever need a semi-truck because that’s not even the amount of things that I owned. And so, I paid for a semi-truck when it could have been in a shuttle from the beginning. Second, the fact that they thought I had $700 in cash out of the pocket to pay them in less than 24 hours. Moves are really expensive especially when you're moving that far away, and for them to think that I could just pull money out on order was offensive.

I did call them out on it because I was very angry. I told them that I wasn’t gonna pay that money because it's their responsibility. They had one month and a half to look at my address and see if they could drive in with a semi-truck or not. And now that I live here, they absolutely could have driven up with a semi-truck because there's a construction happening right across the street from me. It took about seven calls and finally they agreed to take it from a $700 charge to $200. At that point, I was tired of arguing and I decided to pay it. But aside from that, all of my things arrived and everything was fine. Everything went really nice and easy. The movers themselves were very nice.

They came, took all the items and gave me the receipt. My car was delivered on time, but my household items were delayed by roughly 10 days because of weather conditions in Indianapolis on their way. I would suggest that if there is a delay, they should call to give an update once every two days. I had to give them a call and only then would I get an update but I'm not raising this as a concern or complaint. Their crew was good and friendly. Whenever I called, they answered and forwarded me updates. When I sent an email, they replied on time. Other than the delay, I'm satisfied with the service.

I was relocating from Boston area to Cincinnati area and I used International Van Lines. I lived in a single bedroom apartment so I didn’t have too much stuff. So, the estimation was very good. In fact, I also estimated a little bit more so that we don’t have any last-minute surprises. I didn’t have any pain in the cost. The people who handled the move were very professional. I had to call them to make sure that they are trying to come at the given window. It’s a little bit delayed but that’s fine. Once they came in, they were able to put everything in their truck in less than one hour. So, it was very fast. Also, they were very good, especially when putting the things in their truck. They also took care of them that nothing got damaged.

My stuff came in two days. I was driving from Boston so I asked for a five-day window but I got on the same evening when they came to Cincinnati. I paid an additional $5 because this one was on the second floor but it’s okay keeping in mind the efficiency and time. If I need to relocate one more time, I would definitely strongly consider using them. In fact, I have already recommended them to a couple of my friends who are moving. So, either their move is already scheduled or they’re working towards it.

The moving crew seemed nice but every time I would do stuff, prices kept on increasing. And along the way, things kept disappearing from my stuff like wedding rings, and I don’t know how I can possibly even tell because they contract out to so many different people. In the end, my experience was very expensive and IVL had a poor timeline.

When I moved from Connecticut to California, I shortlisted a few companies, took the quote and checked their ratings, and International Van Lines gave a better quote for me. My experience with the crew that handled my move was good except that I had one minor issue. There is a minor communication gap. They asked me whether the vehicle is reachable to the destination in front of the apartment. I booked the apartment remotely so I was not sure. I gave them a screenshot of that apartment but they didn’t tell me anything whether they can or cannot park that vehicle there. I was not aware this big truck was going there so they charged me an extra amount for that and nobody contacted me. The driver asked me the extra amount and at that time, I contacted that lady whom I can speak with, but she didn’t even ask me how was the experience or anything that happened. Except that amount case, everything was okay. Their service was working and I had already recommended one of my friends to them.

When I Googled "best van lines," ConsumerAffairs came up with a list of 6 of them. A few of them didn’t go to Texas or weren’t in Philly so that’s how I got International Van Lines because they’re in Coral Springs which is not far from us. I used them twice within the year for my daughter when she left and went from Philly to Austin, and Austin back to Florida. The crew in Philly was great but the crew in Austin was horrible. They lost boxes and the stuff were damaged. They looked like they had thrown it off the truck. They also put the bed frame on upside down. When I called the guy who I dealt with at International Van Lines, he took care of it. They rectified the situation and had fired that crew so they were no longer using that subcontractor. So the ones that picked her up in Austin the second time were good and the the guys who dropped her off in Tampa were also really good.

Overall, it was an easy and flawless move. International Van Lines did what they said and were very accommodating. They tried to make it as headache-free as they could except for that crew in Texas.

I researched International Van Lines online through Angie’s List and some other consumer review type websites and picked them. They helped set up a date that was acceptable to me with a backup date if they couldn’t make that. I've moved with them twice. The first time they accommodated us in trying to have a more dedicated truck rather than a big semi ‘cause I lived out of the country and had a very long driveway that was about 700-foot. I was afraid that since the move was in November, it might be difficult to get the semi up if we had a lot of snow. We did not know what the weather would be when we scheduled it a couple months ahead of time. But they worked to try to get me a smaller truck, which was nice.

I then had interactions with the person who was also dealing with the insurance and found out what my options were. And although I had an idea of the date they were going to come, they called a day in advance to let me know that they would be there the next day and gave me an approximate time they would show up. We had several pieces of furniture that we bought brand new up in Minnesota ‘cause they were cheaper to move down, and unfortunately, they got damaged and that wasn’t very nice. We weren’t very happy with the damage upfront, which if they had taken a little more time to wrap it slightly differently, we wouldn’t have had that issue.

But they tried to do a good job, though. On most of the stuff, they wrapped them pretty well. But it was five rooms of furniture and I wasn't able to watch everything they did. They damaged a couple of pieces but I had the higher level insurance and the person that they recommended to fix the pieces did a really excellent job and we were okay with that.

International Van Lines subcontracted out to other people and I wasn’t really quite clear of that when we first went with them. But I liked them enough that we went with them the second time. We moved three rooms because we had moved our son also down here. They damaged several pieces but much more minor than the time before. They weren’t new pieces so it wasn’t quite as big a deal. When they loaded up or in the act of transferring from one truck to another, perhaps that’s where the damage occurred. I only fixed one of the items ‘cause it was too expensive to replace them. When they unloaded, they did fine, though.

My biggest complaint would be that they rush a little bit and sometimes they don’t wrap as well as they could some of the more complicated or delicate furniture pieces or when they stack it to try to fill the truck as efficiently as possible. They could have told me upfront too that there was a waste factor for packing. I measured and weighed everything for them ahead of time, so they had a good idea what they were going to get. Their estimate based on that is what they used for the charge. With a more efficient packing, the 10 to 15 percent excess that they liked to put in to make sure they can pack up the truck, the cost could have been adjusted. Once they set the cost, that was final and there isn’t any negotiation of that.

Nonetheless, we didn’t lose a single thing where we moved. We had a mini van and a Subaru Outback so we were able to pack everything nice and I purposely made it so they were moving either books and/or furniture. I made it in some ways easier for them than maybe somebody who had to move all their personal possessions through the movers. I would still recommend International Van Lines over some of the horror stories I’ve heard about other movers. The people were nice, they cleaned up after they came, and they called to check on things and to give us a heads up when they were going to drop off.

Also, moving companies have this window when they’re going to deliver and they give you a window that can be a couple of weeks long. Waiting for two weeks for your furniture could be irksome even though that is within the limit of what their contract allows. In both my cases, they didn't push the limit stated in the contract and they tried to be within a day or two or what they thought could be a reasonable date to deliver on, which was nice.

My family and I relocated from North Carolina to Colorado in October 2016. Prior to selecting a moving company, I contacted various companies within the industry and did extensive online research regarding their customer service, reliability/punctuality, professionalism, etc. After a month of working with each company, my husband and I selected International Van Lines. This decision was based primarily on the exceptional customer reviews and Better Business Bureau rating. We opted to insure both the contents of our move and the moving costs for $73,177.20. All insured items were inventoried prior to our moving date.

Over the 2-day moving period, I inadvertently left my jewelry inside my jewelry box. Of note, I had not insured my jewelry, as it was not my intent to have it packed as part of the move. In retrospect, I should have contacted International Van Lines once I realized this oversight but I did not. This is a regret that I must now live with for one small box contained 3 wedding rings from both my mother and grandmother. When our items were unpacked in Colorado, every item contained on our insurance inventory arrived. Several items were damaged (dryer, 2 tables, glassware, etc.). I have since filed our claim for damages and I am currently awaiting feedback on reimbursement for these damages.

The box that contained my family’s wedding rings also arrived but the jewelry box and rings that were kept inside were missing. I immediately contacted International Van Lines and tearfully explained my situation. The customer service representative, Lisa, was extremely helpful and sincerely apologetic. Several days later, I was notified that since these rings (1 carat solitaire, 1.5 carat solitaire, 1 platinum wedding band) were not on my inventory, I could only be compensated 60 cents per pound. After working back and forth with the customer service department, I was offered a final offer of $500 as long as I was willing to sign a confidentiality agreement. I was told in writing they did not have to offer even that. As though that was a favor. As I explained to customer service, my trust in their company has been shattered. And, therefore, I felt compelled to share my story as a precaution to future customers.

Until a different moving co. (American Knights) showed up to load our things on Nov. 2nd & take back to Cleveland, OH to await other hauls in order to fill a semi for trip out west. I was told our things would probably be in Colorado by the end of the next week. We arrived @ new home on Nov. 6th but our things didn't get here until the night before Thanksgiving (Nov. 22nd).

So for 16 days I was redirected to a different person every time I contacted the moving co. to see when our things would be delivered. They kept putting me off & led me to believe it would be soon but that didn't happen! Everyone was nice that I spoke with but be prepared for things to not go as you might expect. And please, insure your things. I didn't and regret it... damaged furniture & some inventory that didn't make it to us. The complaint is about the poor service offered by the company and the excessive charges levied once we had signed up. They used unethical tactics to extract money out of us as they were holding our goods to ransom. They didn’t respond in time to emails seeking clarification on extra charges and left it too late to be resolved for consequential delay charges to be applied. Also they had not mentioned in the contract the terms at the destination country especially about the charges, the free time allowance and the weekend working restriction. I actually had decided to go with another company but this company lured me in by offering a cheaper quotation and bad mouthing the other company.

On the day of packing, the crew weren’t adequately prepared or resourced. They didn’t have enough boxes as they used our cartons which were flat packed from the last move we did (our cartons turned out to be much more durable than the ones they had). They also kept wasting time as had to wait for knives to be available from other members. Prior to the move date, I had raised concern on the amount of time they had allowed for packing and loading, all to be done within the same day. I was told by the management that it's their own crew, not subcontracted, and they know how to get it done within the time allowed. They also emphasized that my contract was for a full 20’ container and I shouldn’t worry as to how long it takes or how much material they use to pack it.

On the day, the container arrived around 1pm but the crew didn’t start loading till about 3pm as they hadn’t finished the packing. Me and my wife ended up bringing the stuff out of the house ourselves as the crew had stopped working. We requested to put more stuff in the container as there still was space, but the crew leader refused and closed the doors after putting only a few of the things we brought out. Whilst talking to IVL management team about the extra charges for loading delay, they said we had too much stuff to pack! They still loaded a 20’ container and I had initially offered them to view the goods prior to packing, but they refused stating they know what they are doing. I argued that it was their crew who were packing and loading and therefore I shouldn’t be held responsible for their inefficiency and delay, but the management didn’t bother listening.

I have plenty of pictures from the arrival day, to show the empty space and the fact that boxes had fallen over in the container as they weren’t stacked properly, implying there was still space. Had the crew wanted, they could have put the stuff that had been left behind and also some of which we had to throw away as it couldn’t have been brought in a flight.

Anyway, I called the company Sunday afternoon and evening and no one answered. I emailed George and he still hasn't gotten back to me.

I did speak to Steve - another one of International Van Lines representatives - and he is the one person in this organization that does communicate. He said he would get it taken care of and find out what happened. Of course no explanation ever followed. So I promptly asked for a refund and he sent me a copy of the email he sent to dispatch because I never got an answer, an explanation for them missing my pickup or a call when they could reschedule. International Van Lines is just a front company. They are part of a corporation that has several moving companies. Be aware of whom you're dealing with and do your research. They come up as one of the best reviewed movers on Consumer Affairs. Don't believe the reviews!! I call B.S. on them. My story as follows:

I was in a desperate situation when I called them. I was moving across the country and had another moving company, Colonial Van Lines, (Which is another horrible company to deal with) leave me with a good portion of my furniture that they couldn't fit on their truck they sent. I had a garage full of leftover items that I needed to get moved when I called them. I called IVL because of their online reviews and my huge dilemma I was now faced with because of the last mover. I explained to them that I was looking for a company that used their own trucks and their own drivers and a contact person who could help me finish this move. The "Salesman" guaranteed me that they only use their driver and trucks and everyone is an employee - First LIE.

He sent an estimator to my house to calculate how much and what kind of items there were left to pack. I was quoted a price and scheduled the move. I was trying to coordinate all this from across the country now as my original move had already happened. I needed a company that could come through for me. WRONG CHOICE! The mover did not show up on the day I was told after coordinating family and neighbors to help facilitate the process.

After calling the office of IVL all day long to find out where my truck was (no answer BTW) I finally received a call late that afternoon telling me that the movers would be there the next day at 3:00pm. I rallied my help once again only to be let down ONCE AGAIN. Some random Penske rental truck showed up at my property at 8:00PM, proceeded to back up a narrow driveway, in the dark, and then drove off the side into the planter destroying the asphalt. My neighbor called me and I spoke to the driver. He was an outside hired, independent mover. No affiliation with IVL at all. They farm out all their jobs, like all the rest of the movers.

Anyways to make a long horrible story short: After he came back the next day at a reasonable time he told me he didn't have enough room on his truck to guarantee all my items would fit, He couldn't guarantee that my items would not be broken in the move, his "dispatcher" wanted to charge me an undisclosed sum to box up my items prior to loading. I finally told him "No thanks. I would make other arrangements." His dispatcher got on the phone and yelled at me and threatened me.

The Salesman at IVL got on the phone and blamed me because we had several outdoor pots and told me that I was going to pay the deposit, no matter what. I disputed the charge with my c.c. company, but lost due to a late cancellation clause, which I was never told about, never saw any paperwork, nor signed anything. If this is the kind of customer service and follow through they provided me BE CAREFUL when looking for your mover!!!

After a positive interaction with International Van Lines, Trenton increased their star rating on Dec. 12, 2016.

    Updated review: Dec. 12, 2016

IVL has resolved this dispute to my satisfaction.

    Original Review: Oct. 19, 2016

This is a corrupt company that lost or destroyed over a third of my household property. My wife and I contracted with International Van lines for a move from Baltimore, MD to Lafayette, IN. We agreed to a binding estimate for our move and paid the down payment. When the movers arrived, Simon, the foreman, immediately started complaining that there was more stuff than we agreed on. And in fact, there were three more bookshelves than we had mentioned in our estimate. We had forgotten about them in our original planning.

After Simon had everything packed on the truck, he continued to complain about the extra bookcases and to say we owed more money. He called his boss and we agreed on a revised price to include the extra items. While he was rude and overly dramatic, we were just happy to have our stuff on the truck and Simon out of our lives.

After two weeks, we get the call that our stuff was being delivered. To our great surprise, instead of International Van Lines, we were greeted by a representative of different moving company. The foreman said he had picked up our stuff at a warehouse in DC (BR Moving company), and that when he picked up our stuff he noticed that a pipe had burst in the warehouse, completely soaking over a third of our boxes. He took pictures of the warehouse and the burst pipe to prove it.

When we began to unpack the wet boxes, it was clear that the contents were ruined. We had a large collection of antiques that was completely destroyed. IVL made no effort to alert us about the water damage. What's more, they made no effort to check the inventory to make sure they had delivered everything. We refused to sign the inventory on delivery and upon checking each box against the inventory discovered that we were missing 26 boxes plus all of the glass for one of our pieces of furniture. Almost all of the furniture was damaged, either by water or other abuse. Two chairs were completely broken, one of which was missing its entire back. Our cabinet was warped from water damage.

I alerted IVL of this immediately, and they referred us to the moving insurance company. Our policy with the insurance company only covered certain pieces of furniture, not the scores of boxes that were destroyed or missing. The insurance company has been very kind and helpful, but we have still received no compensation from IVL for our damaged and missing items. Steve ** from IVL assured me that the manager, Sean **, was looking our missing boxes but it has been two months and we have heard nothing from Sean. He has not returned my emails or calls.

To add insult to injury, IVL delivered a box of someone's contents (books). The other person's name is clearly listed on the box. When I alerted IVL of this, they did not seem concerned. Despite repeated requests for them to send someone to pick it up or to send a call tag so I could return these to their rightful owner, IVL has ignored my requests. They clearly lack concern for my property and the property of others.

Like most of you I chose this company off of the reviews and hoped to receive that same type of "great service" people talk so much about. Let me just say that this company (IVL) needs to try a lot harder to win any type of praise from me. When the driver showed up he had no identifiable type of uniform nor anything that says he works for a respectable moving company. Honestly he looks like someone gave him some cash and said "go here and pick up." My instructions on how to navigate my driveway were ignored, thus he showed up alone and could not move my items in a timely manner. I had to help him load and unload all of my household goods onto my truck, down my driveway onto his U-haul trailer. I am an injured vet with back problems (bulging discs, pinched nerve) so you can imagine how unhappy I was to have to help in all of this. But forget that.

So my items leave Pasadena, California (25 Apr 2016) and are headed for Virginia. Most of my items arrive around June 10. When the truck pulled up and I looked inside... holy cow!! What a mess!! Items (not just mine) were piled up to the truck ceiling and some had fallen over on my things... broken boxes, broken glass, just a total mess! Obviously the people who packed this particular truck were... in a hurry, not experienced, or too busy to care for the belongings of others. So I (once again) had to use my truck to load the items around to the backside of my house... again... annoying but not a big deal. As the drivers/loaders helped fish out my boxes, I had to remind them once or twice to not throw them into my truck bed! (Yes I had a few broken dishes, but no biggie). So once the unloading was done... I quickly realized that two items were missing... my computer monitor with cables and a large suitcase with my military uniforms.

I had the drivers sign the papers and they said I should contact the company because they have no idea where my items could be. I have been in contact with a few people since then about my missing items and they were very polite at first but then some just ignored my emails and phone calls (I won't say their names). I was told to contact the man in California who was responsible for my move and he could help me out.

Well, today is October 19, 2016 and I still have no idea where my monitor or my uniforms are! They never call me back with any updates. I always have to call and remind them that I'm still waiting. Now I know it's a large business and they are busy. However, how many more months do they need? I feel that I have been very patient with them. I have given up hope on my computer monitor... however my uniforms are extremely important and I can only hope that they were not stolen. I am livid with this company and I have no clue how this will turn out. This is an honest and true review, please consider it when making your decision. P.S. I would have included my receipt but my scanner cables have not arrived yet.

I moved for a job. I didn't have a lot to move but I didn't want to drive. I checked the reviews and International Van Lines was one of the better reviewed moving options. However, when I called and told them what I have, they gave me a quote and under-estimated by a lot, like the actual square-footage. So it was a little surprising when the movers got there and had to do the adjustments, and there was a significant difference. It's not a problem but it would've been good if they told me ahead of time. Better logistics in the future would be helpful because a lot of people that have never done this are not very familiar with the square-footage, how things work, and how much is needed to calculate them. Also, I was missing one or two boxes. I didn't submit a claim because they give cents on the dollar so it's not even worth my time.

I wish there was a ‘minus 10’ option to rate this creepy company because I would never ever recommend the service to anyone. I blame myself for the lack of thorough review and for allowing a few reasonable comments to mislead me at the time I ignored bad reviews. I only now realize the overwhelming majority of negative reviews and how true they are. If you read carefully each and every victim experienced nightmares during their moves and relocation with this sub-par company.

Of course, at the beginning, when they try to sell you they treat you like customer but as soon as you pay them upon packing, they literally treat you like **. This company is the champion in the industry for absence of structure, period. They outsource the service to unreliable third parties. Be advise, when you need to speak with someone they IGNORE you, they do not read emails, they do not pick up the calls, so you have to use private numbers, they do NOT CARE. When you get a hold of someone they will blatantly tell you "we were busy with other customers" and forget about receiving a call back after leaving a message.

The packing was a disaster, items that I asked for special care and handling arrived unpacked or broken. ALL my furniture, no exceptions, showed signs of damages. Drawers from chests do not open, do not close properly anymore and the WORST part, missing boxes. Missing items from boxes. They moved our personal belongings carelessly from one truck to another and we estimate that 10 boxes were lost. When we complained, their answer was, “Action your insurance”. No one even tried to find the boxes and forget about a follow up call. I moved my entire house and not every item was properly itemized in the insurance (we are talking more than 200 packages) so chances are that I will not get a single penny back from the insurance.

So after the nightmare of begging these people to expedite the process, the only answers were, “Where is the final payment”. We even received a call from the driver of the trucking company (third party) requesting the payment directly and even threatening that ‘it could take weeks to schedule the delivery’ if the payment was not done immediately. The unprofessional, rude, deceiving and heartless service that this company provides has pushed me to alert consumers not to EVER use their services. Don’t become a victim of this SCAM.

I gave International Van Lines the job to move me from Miami USA to Mallorca Spain. I was quoted $6252 for a door to door service. That figure has basically doubled. I have been continuously billed for things. I was advised in Writing by Judy ** the international sales agent that the destination THC were going to be APPROXIMATELY 300-450 Euros, this ended up being 1372.51 Euros. I realise approximate doesn't mean exact. However the meaning approximate does mean very close to the actual figure you will pay. However the THC ended up costing more than 3 X that amount. More recently I have been billed for additional transportation from Valencia to Mallorca. The sales person Judy ** failed to realise there was no direct ferry from Miami to Mallorca. Therefore the goods have to be trucked from Valencia to Mallorca. International Van Lines are responsible for this additional fee. I paid for a door to door service.

The agent in Valencia (WillMove) has already told me via the telephone that IVL have completely messed up and it is their responsibility to pay this. However WillMove has invoiced me additional transportation fee's based on IVL instructions, as International Van Lines refuses to pay this bill. I was continuously told lies by IVL. I was told "we are not brokers" when in fact they outsource the job to other moving companies. I was told by Judy ** "We are upfront with all our fees." It is all lies. They even say on their own website "We are not brokers". When in fact they are. I was even billed additional fees because the movers truck in Miami didn't make it into the port on time. I don't even know if these fees are legitimate. IVL are scamming people that are not aware of shipping laws.

I specifically told Judy ** on the telephone when arranging the booking with them that I didn't want any unexpected surprises with additional fee's. She said "oh no there won't be any as we are upfront with all our fee's." Total lies. The fee they quoted has virtually doubled and the move has ended up costing $12000. I was also informed by moving.org that International Van Lines are registered with them as (broker member). On the quote IVL sent to me it said in capitals "We are not a broker company". Clearly they have breached the agreement that they had with me. In addition to this many items of furniture arrived broken and not packed properly. Avoid this company at all costs. You will regret it dearly.

I chose this van line because they had the highest rating on Consumer Affairs. However, they subcontracted with Empire Van Lines and this company had all the characteristics of a poorly rated van line. The furniture arrived thirteen days after the delivery date. The supervisor was rude and left early even though we had thirteen boxes missing. There were gouge marks on our bedroom dresser and my husband's computer table leg was broken.

I had put out a lovely brunch buffet for the workers but the supervisor insisted they leave because they had another delivery, so the workers never got to eat. I suspect our lost boxes may have still been on the truck and went to the next delivery site, but I had no way of knowing. They did not do a walk through at the end. Apparently they expected my 94 year old mother to move her corner curio cabinet herself because they did not put it into the corner. Because we packed our own boxes (and did a good job, nothing broke) the insurance only covered the furniture damage and we were not compensated for the lost boxes. Overall it was a very negative experience.

My experience with International Van Lines was horrendous and extremely stressful. I found the company on Consumer Reports and called in the beginning of June (2016) to hire them to move me from Atlanta to Denver. The move was scheduled for June 30 and I was told by the sales person, Ryan, that they have their own fleet and don't contract their jobs out. Big plus for me. But that wasn't the case.

After the sale with Ryan my move was assigned to an 'account manager,' Kelly, who was supposed to be "handling my move details". It took me multiple emails and phone calls to get Kelly to respond to me any time I needed answers. And she typically would respond to my voice mails or emails with a vague email. I think it was a rare occurrence she ever called me back.

My pick-up on June 30 was scheduled for a 12-4 window. My personal belongings would then be in their storage unit until I found a place in Denver for delivery. The first 30-days of storage was free and each month after that was a set (what I thought at the time) reasonable fee. The movers showed up at 4:30 (30-minutes outside of their window). I know it is 30-minutes but it then took them 5-hours to move my stuff out of a 2 bedroom house. (I didn't even have a couch). This is when I learned that my move was contracted out to a company called David and Goliath. I was told, originally, they don't contract moves.

My stuff went into their (D&G) storage in Georgia. When I called 20-days later inquiring about when my card would be charged for the additional month of storage I was directed to a they told me I couldn't pay with Amex which I had previously asked and they [IVL] confirmed I could. So after tracking Kelly down I got this resolved and they charged me $300 on 8/10 for my August storage (July was free).

Kelly then started becoming harder to get responses from. By this time I had a clear move-in date of 9/2. At this point I am now talking to the owner of David & Goliath, Eli, who is one of the most despicable human beings I've ever come across. He took every chance to condescend me and make me feel as I am to blame for every misunderstanding. At one point, on 9/2 (first date of delivery), he told me that he was going to "sell my stuff on the black market" and asked me "What do you think you are doing? Ordering an Uber or a delivery across country."

I was trying to get clear answers to two very simple questions; 1. Why was my final quote $300 more than the original quoted final payment? It couldn't be for an additional month of storage since he told me the movers left Georgia on 8/29. 2. Are they assembling my furniture? I didn't even get to ask #1 because he went off on me about the assembling the furniture question. You would think I was unreasonable. So I hung up on him and avoided any calls from him, because remember... I HIRED INTERNATIONAL VAN LINES to do my move! Why am I dealing with this horrific person from another company! So much more happened before the delivery finally happened on 9/6.

On 9/6 the movers called around 9 am (I was supposed to have 24-hour notice) to ask if they could unload that afternoon. Because I was anxious to get this whole experience done I rearranged my schedule to accommodate. I arrived at my house at 4 pm and they were outside waiting. The supervisor took a page from Eli's book. He was just as horrible. Condescending, rude, telling me where I should put things (because he didn't feel like moving stuff downstairs to basement). "It would be a lot easier on (us)," he said. He also claimed that the additional $300 was for another month's storage (of which I didn't use!) but I am still waiting on clarity from IVL. All of my wine glasses were broken. An $800 mirror was broken. A media console has a big chunk knocked out of it (to which he replied, "You shouldn't buy this type of wood."

When they were assembling my beds the hardware was all missing. He blamed me saying they didn't disassemble the beds so it isn't his problem. THEY needed to complete the job I paid them for. I went to ACE hardware to buy more screws for the beds and by the time I came back the movers were gone. They left all of my doors open, my furniture in the middle of the living room, beds not assembled, and garbage in the yard.

I wrote Mike at IVL (remember him...he was supposed to be one of my reps from the beginning) an email. To his credit he called me right away and was able to secure a local handyman company to complete the job the next day. But not to Mike's credit, he did tell me he would follow up the next day with me and find a way to compensate me for my experience. It has been two days and I haven't hear a word from Mike. I don't expect to. Silver lining - I have the MOST amazing handyman now in Denver. And if I can save anyone from hiring International Van Lines and David and Goliath movers EVER then hopefully I am helping another person.

    Reviewed Aug. 28, 2016

I hired this company because of its positive review here on consumer affairs. It was a move from NJ to Illinois. After all the research and speaking with other moving companies, I chose IVL. Turns out, worst decision ever. Most uncaring, most dishonest, and worst customer service company I ever encountered. Bar none. I know moving is a stressful process, but companies like IVL make the moving process 1,000x all the more stressful. I really do not understand why there are good reviews on this company because my friend suffered the same fate with this very poor performing and uncaring company.

I was asked to list down every thing I was going to move; number of boxes, all the furnitures, etc. I am single so I did not have much stuff. I was quoted $3200 which included the $700 fee for moving my car from NJ to IL. But the guys who picked up my stuff (which turned out to be a different company from IVL. They are called Premiere Relocation Co) told me I had to pay $5,070 because apparently, the initial quote was not an accurate estimate. My friend hired IVL also for a move from NJ to Alabama. She was also charged $1,500 more than her initial quote after her stuff was picked up. I know a quote is an estimation, but to be so far off from the estimate is such a deceiving tactic. What if you did not have that extra amount of money to pay off those guys?

After I paid for my initial downpayment, my contact guy Justin just stopped communicating with me. I left voicemails and emails repeatedly for the next two weeks. I was actually begging them to reply and let me know when they would pick up my stuff since they gave me a time frame of 3 days even though I asked for a specific date. Whereas, when they were trying to close the deal, they called day after day. I was not contacted until the day before the pick up.

On the day of the apparent pick up, I stayed at home and did not go to work of course so I could be there. The dispatcher called me at 8PM and told me they could not pick my stuff up because there was a confusion with the customers. I was so infuriated and was on the brink of just finding another company to deal with, but of course, I had no other choice. I was working, I had no more time, and I had already paid my downpayment. I was left with no choice but to accept whatever they say and to find another coverage for me at work.

On the contract, the delivery time frame was 7-21 days. They said usually stuff gets delivered within 10 days, but not a guarantee. After 10 days of waiting and not hearing anything from them, I started calling and emailing and begging to let me know the situation of my delivery. Finally I got an email saying it would be delivered between these certain dates. And of course, come those certain dates, still no words and no calls and no replies from anyone. Finally they showed mercy and told me when to expect my stuff. It was after 23 days that the stuff was delivered. They have no answer why it took that long.

On the day of the delivery, some of my boxes were dilapidated and some of the boxes' bottoms were damp. My book shelf was unrecognizable. 2 of my lamp posts were bent beyond repair. And a big piece of table top mirror which I did not own was included in my stuff. When I told them it is not mine, they said "you can keep it if you want it." I said, "I'm sure the owner of that is looking for it", but they just shrugged the thought. Imagine if it was one of your precious stuff? So, I emailed Justin and telling him what is the insurance policy regarding my broken stuff. I never got an answer. I am not expecting anyway.

So, just warning you if ever you deal with this company. They will not communicate with you once they have gotten their downpayment. And then you are handed off to individual external contractual companies from all over the place, who also do not communicate with you. But you will get your stuff, maybe after 3 weeks, expect damage, expect a lot of frustrations. I just hope you have no valuable stuff because clearly this company does not value their customers.

I understand they were late because they were stretched in terms of them moving somebody else in Chicago, and then they drove from Chicago to me. I would not recommend International Van Lines under any circumstances. My movers, who I believe IVL contracted the move to, arrived late. They left trash strewn about my apartment as well as bolts and screws from furniture they disassembled. Based on the number of boxes I had, the team leader stated he believed I had over 100 cubic feet (cf) more volume than I estimated. This amounted to several hundred dollars. He offered to give me a break and only was going to charge me for around 70 cf more. I disputed his method pointing out that several of my boxes were small. After seeing how my belongings were packed in the truck, I disputed the volume again.

I phoned IVL several times to seek guidance but no one answered. I was told by the team lead if I signed the revised written estimate, I could work out my issues with IVL later. Based on this and because my lease was expiring in two days, I signed the paperwork. When I finally reached someone at IVL the next week, he and I agreed on the phone that the movers and I could measure my goods upon delivery to ensure the estimated volume was accurate. I confirmed this through e-mail.

The delivery team did not have knowledge of this plan, however, and stated they would not measure anything. I phoned the dispatch manager who told me that if I paid the movers in full I could measure the inventory myself and report any overages. Before paying anything I requested an e-mail confirmation: he stated "We will take care of any extra [volume] that was extra charged to your account." I paid in full and measured my inventory. I calculated that I was overcharged for 51 cubic feet. I requested reimbursement for the overages as well as for the team's failure to reassemble my bed properly and to reassemble my coffee table at all.

After more than a week with several phone calls and email exchanges I was offered $200 for overages, subject to me signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and $150 for failure to reassemble my furniture. When I requested an explanation for the $200 reimbursement for overages--which was far less than I requested--I was sent a picture of a spreadsheet with my name and the volume that the actual movers had charged IVL. No other satisfactory explanation was given for why $200 was the appropriate amount. A supervisor also explained that "legally IVL doesn't have to give [me] anything, nor does the other moving company, because [I] signed the revised written estimate."

I offered to accept the $200 subject to a modified-NDA where I waived any right to legal action or any other method of seeking reimbursement but retaining my right to post about my experience online. IVL rejected this offer. A supervisor offered to pay me the difference between what I was requesting and what IVL was offering for the overages. I rejected this offer, refusing to take money from an employee of the company. Only after this employee offered to pay out of pocket did I received a phone call from a more senior leader. At one point he told me that, if he were in my shoes and disputed the volume he would not have signed the revised written estimate unless someone held a gun to his head. Still, he would consider the case and get back to me the next morning.

The next afternoon he offered me the amount I requested for overages but still subject to me signing an NDA. I rejected this offer explaining that IVL employees had not told me about this restriction on the phone or in email when we initially discussed the plan for remedying the overages, if any. In addition to the items listed above, I was shocked with how unresponsive IVL was. By my estimate around 77 of the 96 phone calls I made to IVL went to voicemail from the day before my move until the day I was offered $200 for overages.

Disastrous experience! Pickup was 7 1/2 hours late (I had to meet 2 men at a deserted storage facility at 8:30 pm and didn't leave there until 11pm. I am a single woman!). I come to find out from one of the movers (a subcontractor - New Life Transport) that they weren't even told about my pickup until 5pm that evening after I had been told early that morning that my pickup would be around 1pm! Once there they attempted to charge me DOUBLE the agreed price. I told them to forget it and to leave, then they came down to 'only' $1000 more than what was agreed upon. The drivers never filled out or gave me an inventory list (which is in violation of Federal Regulation) which their 'boss' (the subcontractor) on the phone promised me he would send me. I continually called to get the paperwork and was given the runaround each time and LIED TO about when my things would be loaded onto the truck from a warehouse in New Jersey.

After a dozen or so calls and a threat of filing a formal complaint to the FMSCA I was told my things would be here first thing Monday am. Didn't happen! Kept getting calls that they were delayed and would be to me in the afternoon. Hah! Got a call at 6:30 that they weren't coming until the next day. It took them 28 days to bring my things! Two chairs, bathroom cabinet, a piece of exercise equipment and a huge plastic bin of valuable handmade costumes all missing!!! They even tried to give me 4 items that weren't mine. You can be sure I will be filing a formal complaint with the FMSCA!
