    Reviewed Aug. 1, 2024

Updated on 08/09/2024: UPDATE: My final straw was hearing from the construction company where I work that they have previously had to fix thousands of dollars worth of structural damage caused by the shoddy work of Down Home Plumbing. Homeserve was unwilling to pay for those damages and the poor customer had to sue for satisfaction. State Farm took 48 hours to approve a claim under my homeowner's insurance. They allowed me to hire a well-reviewed and trustworthy local plumbing company to replace my main sewer line. I implore everyone to check with their homeowner's insurance company for this type of coverage. When I requested Homeserve to least refund my premium for their failure as a company, I never heard back from management. Steer clear!

Original Review: 0 stars! Homeserve is a scam. We had our main sewer line back sewage up into our basement due to a tree root intrusion. The techs they sent out from Down Home Plumbing to repair the blockage ran an auger through the line and then told us they didn't hit any major resistance and the issue was resolved. They did not camera the line to source the blockage or to make sure they had cleared the blockage because Homeserve does not authorize them to do so. Not to mention the techs arrived 3.5 hours past their estimated appointment window and one of them spent the entire time on his cell phone while his (possible barely 18 year old) partner did the work.

Water began backing up in our main again immediately as the auger had done nothing but temporarily push the roots aside. So we called Homeserve again and told them this time that cameraing had to be approved so the issue could be fully resolved. The first company they requested to come out was unavailable so they sent the job back to Down Home Plumbing. Down Home Plumbing confirmed the appointment with Homeserve and I received a text and email confirmation they would be on site the next day. But when I called the next day to confirm the arrival window they could not find the appointment/repair information without calling Homeserve. And once they did find it, the tech and his manager called more than once attempting to reschedule it for 1-2 days later because they were busy and didn't feel sewage backing up into my basement was an emergency.

After several heated conversations and multiple calls from myself to Homeserve, a tech did show up. He called Homeserve again before doing anything to make sure the cameraing was authorized and then proceeded to camera the line. He found a massive tree root intrusion and informed us the line would need to be dug up and at least a portion of it replaced. He let us know he would contact Homeserve with this info and they would be in touch ASAP. Two days later we had heard nothing, so I called Homeserve to be told Down Home Plumbing had never sent them the information. They assured me they would follow up with Down Home Plumbing and send the repair request for approval.

Another 24 hours later, I got a call from Homeserve saying we needed to remove the tree that had caused the root intrusion. I informed them it would be down that day. They then asked if we would like to add a cleanout to the main line at the street at an out of pocket cost of $830. I told them no. They said that was fine and Down Home Plumbing would be in touch to schedule the repair. After I didn't hear from Down Home Plumbing for another 48 hours, I called them and was informed that they had told Homeserve the installation of the cleanout was mandatory by code and they could not schedule the work. Homeserve got it wrong! Had I not called Down Home Plumbing, no one would have called me. Mind you my sewer line has backed up for 2+ weeks at this point already!

When I called Homeserve they refused to take any responsibility for their miscommunication and doubled down that the cleanout installation would have to be done out of my pocket because it isn't covered under their policy. I informed them that their policy states they exclude "Any replacement, correction, upgrade, or move of Your existing System in order to meet any code, law, regulation, ordinance, or utility directive, if not directly related to the necessary Covered Repair." But when you're replacing my main sewer line, putting a cleanout on it IS "directly related to the necessary covered repair."

After half an hour of asking for a manager, a manager named Alisha tried to tell me the repair wouldn't work without the cleanout and then hung up on me. If that were even remotely true, that would also make it "directly related to the necessary covered repair." These people can't even read their own policy. Meanwhile, the work still isn't getting done! Avoid Homeserve like the plague. They are slow, stupid, and overpriced for the nothing they provide. And they use the worst (read cheapest) possible installers who could care less about customer service or quality workmanship.

Do NOT use.... They will leave you ALL weekend without water and sewer. Sent a plumber that stopped working at 6pm on a Friday without resolving the issue leaving me without ALL water and sewer facilities ALL weekend. Have been calling repairs and customer service all day Saturday requesting emergency services to get my family access to water and sewer facilities. Customer service reps repeatedly stated and were confident that emailing their service provider and waiting for Monday to schedule repairs were an acceptable resolve to their customer being without water and sewer access for any length of time let alone ALL weekend. DO NOT purchase or do business with HomeServe USA. They do NOT provide "peace of mind" or provide EMERGENCY services. They will contract the work out and blame the providers for not being available when emergency services are needed.

I'm canceling all the plans I have with them for their service is HORRIFIC!! Having both the highest level of inside & external plumbing contracts, I called about an outside faucet that would not shut off. I fully explained to them, repeatedly, that the issue was the faucet itself and needed to be replaced. Also stated that because of the high flow rate from the faucet I had to keep all the water to the house turned off at the street. Homeserve sent me notification that a local plumbing company would be out the next day between 9-1. That company never contacted me, and when I attempted to contact them received voice-mail. I left a detailed message, including multiple ways to respond, to no avail!

Homeserve called them, to find out the status at 3PM, when I called to find out what was going on. They said that the plumbing company had gotten caught up with another large job and would be to my house the next day, Sunday, between 0800 and 1. I AGAIN explained that it was the faucet that needed replacing before I could turn the water back on. I was told that was not an issue. The plumbing company finally showed at 2PM, with a bad attitude. When they commented that I looked angry, I started that I am frustrated that they neither arrived when promised, and put me off for an extra day. He asked, in a rude tone, "Do you know of anyone else who would come out on a weekend?" I started that there are plenty of plumbers in the area that would do so and he clarified "that work for Home Serve??" I just showed him where the faucet is located. His assistant took my shut off tool and went to turn the water on.

The main person was quickly able to determine that I was correct, and the faucet needed replacing, BUT Homeserve does NOT cover that. They turned off the water, returned my tool and left. (There was no way I was going to hire them to do the replacement!) I came back inside to the phone ringing with Homeserve calling me. The affirmed that despite my having been paying for the top level of both internal & external "protection" they did NOT cover the replacement of the faucet. When I asked why they didn't just tell me that in the first place, they stated that they had to verify that it was the faucet, and not the pipe leading to it, which they do cover. I'm done with them and will be purchasing from a reputable company.

We have the electrical surge and lightning protection plan with Homeserve, on or about the last week of May 2024 an electrical storm hit our area, we knew it was close but only noticed a couple days later an unusual smell in kitchen. On June 3rd my wife was cleaning up stove after preparing dinner and noticed power would go off when shutting the oven door, I started checking and when I closed the door myself and explosion happened in the back, the power and terminal block melted. There was a fireball and smoke coming from behind stove.

Reported this to Homerserve and after almost a week of talking to different people every time I called they said a company named National Platinum Service would call me about the repair. NPS said they did not have anyone close enough to me to check it out. Another week went by and more calls to them and NPS called again with same answer. Homeserve then said they could do nothing but if I wanted to get my own repair person to fix it, and it was a lightning strike then they would pay. I saw enough responses on the reviews that was not going to happen, so why would I pay a company in Ct for service they can't provide, if you want to pay a scam artist every month, go ahead, but I say keep your money.

5/2024. I live in a small town in Ohio. I have had to use my HomeServe Plan several times in the last few months. I had sewer back up in my basement about a year ago. I called Home Serve and had same day service. They actually had to use the router to remove tree roots from my sewer line. Fast forward to early this year and I again had sewer backup in my basement. Called and had same day service, come and router out my line. This was done every 3/4 months. Service was same day every time. Everyone I spoke with from Home Serve was polite, kind and helpful, as were the servicemen they sent. Then a week ago, I had back up again. I called and explained to the customer service, they called me back that I would have service 4 days later. I replied and send I cannot wait 4 days, I cannot use any facilities in my home. This second person said they understood and would see what they could do.

I waited and hear nothing, so I called a 3rd time. This lady was fabulous. She got busy making calls and had someone scheduled for that afternoon. She had to call around to other areas them what I had before, but she had people scheduled to come within hours. They were on another job, but called me and gave me an estimated time of when they would arrive. They were running late and called and kept me informed. They arrived and went to work. They had a camera and screen and showed that it was not my sewer line it was within my home sewer.

Long story, but they were excellent and after several hours everything was fixed. I could not be happier. "The Trenchless guys" were professional and got the job done. I am hopeful that they will be used on any future jobs at my home. A+ The Trenchless Guys, C for the first service rep I spoke with, F for the 2nd and A+ for the 3rd! I am so happy that I am in thus plan with Home Serve. I only wish they had plumbers and service people from my Tuscarawas County area rather than from Stark and Summit County areas. However, The Trenchless Guys would be preferred.

December 2023 I had a gurgling noise coming from a drain. My husband called HomeServe (we have a plan through the company for this service). HomeServe sent out the company they use..Geisel Sewer and Plumbing. Long story short the company basically said HomeServe serve is a rip off, they will only cover 10 feet of new sewer installed. The man did not have one nice thing to say about HomeServe. Obviously we needed our entire sewer line replaced as it was cracked in so many places and it was close to backing up into the house. HomeServe never called to tell us they did not cover this, no follow up. Nothing.

I had to come out of pocket to have my sewer line repaired. My husband called HomeServe to cancel and the lady asked why. He explained, she then told him don't cancel we cover up to $5000 in repairs and she was curious why the company they sent out told us they didn't. She then told my husband that we were entitled to a reimbursement. We sent them everything they asked for. Here we are almost March and we are still paying for exterior sewer line coverage. And every time we speak to someone they tell us they will call us back. They never do. The last person we spoke to was a Julie ** on February 5th and she was supposed to return our phone call on February 7th. She did not. I emailed her and still no word back. Any advice what to do?

He went out a couple of times to his work truck on the phone. He came back in and showed me a part that went to my furnace and showed me a new part side by side. He said he was going to try this and hoped that it would fix the furnace. Five to ten minutes later Mathew came up from the basement and said that the part did not work and I needed a new furnace that would cost $4750 because I had a "crack" in my heat exchanger. He showed me the "crack" in the heat exchanger and a new furnace exactly like mine that he had recently put in. I said ok and they sent me the contract.

My son said he knew someone because I was unsure of this company because something didn't feel right. Mr. ** came to my home a few days later. Mr. ** from The Basement Pros LLC came out and walked me through what he was doing and what he was looking at. First, Mr. ** asked why didn't Mathew red tag the furnace if it had a cracked heat exchanger. Second Mr. ** showed me that Mathew did not change the part that he said he was going to change because it was burnt at the top and I had not had a flame since the furnace went out the week before. And third, there were all type of wires and things disconnected that should have been connected that more than likely Mathew had taken apart.

Mr. ** came in and FIXED my furnace for $625.58 (2 parts and labor) and it would have be cheaper if Mathew had put the new part in because that was one of the parts that I needed. (Again HE DID NOT!) I would NOT recommend this company because they are not honest. But who I would recommend is Mr. ** at The Basement Pros LLC. He did an excellent job and was very honest and he explained what he was doing. Plus my furnace WORKS! Home serve you NEED TO CHANGE THIS COMPANY AND USE ANOTHER!!!

I thought that HomeServe sending a plumber on the weekend day that my sewer backed up was great--until he arrived 8 hours later and had no equipment (had to borrow it). I was then permanently attached to this plumber per HomeServe and it took him 4 days to arrive with the 2nd occurrence. When it was determined that my entire sewer line needed to be replaced, he said there was not room in my yard for trenchless repair (in truth, he did not have the equipment); I repeatedly asked HomeServe for a 2nd opinion (I even offered to pay for it!) but was told that if I wanted to use my benefit, I would have to use the original contractor they had sent.

He dug trenches through the entire yard, extensively destroyed patio concrete and grass, and had raw sewage exposed in my yard for weeks--but 2 months later I still had no functioning sewer. My job was the first he had done for HomeServe (so they knew nothing about him, but liked the low bid he submitted, I think); he had to postpone starting for 1 week as he had lost his insurance and had to obtain more. After my calling HomeServe almost every day for 2 months, they finally brought in a capable company who completed a trenchless repair in a few days (this was the company I had originally wanted to provide a second opinion; to the credit of HomeServe, they covered the increased cost of this company as a goodwill gesture).

After completion, the city inspector said that original contractor would no longer be allowed to pull permits in my city due to his egregious errors and encouraged me to pursue a lawsuit to recoup some of my repair costs. Now I am left with destroyed concrete and landscaping and drainage problems throughout my yard that I am responsible to repair.

Also, be aware that HomeServe covers only $7000 toward a sewer repair and requires you to use the contractor they send (who may be totally inadequate for the job); a sewer repair easily costs 3-4 times that amount and you will pay the rest. They also cover only $1000 toward restoration of landscaping and concrete; my concrete repair alone has cost over $7000 (this would not be necessary had HomeServe allowed me to use the contractor I requested who was equipped to do a trenchless repair).

As an alternative to a home warranty, I suggest setting aside a significant emergency fund (which you will need even with the home warranty as it covers very little) and get several bids on a repair if needed; you might be without a functional sewer for several days--but a few days in a hotel will allow you to choose a capable contractor and you will ultimately save both money and time (and extreme frustration and worry). Even if you have to take out a loan. Trust me, I've been there.

    Original Review: Dec. 30, 2023

Two of the three service calls that I needed and were repaired by very good contractors were rejected for payment after the repairs were made!! I would not recommend HomeServe. The company has never indicated to me repairs that were not covered by the policy. My Heating unit would not start, I called and a repair man was there within 1 hour, he fixed the unit (a simple fix). A few hours later I received a call that the repair was not covered. A broken tube which would not allow the heater to start. The tube was repaired and reconnected!! Why would a fix that did not cost HomeServe anything in parts not be covered? So I have to ask if the part was 2 or 3 hundred dollars would they have covered it? This makes no sense.

I’ve paid for HomeServe coverage for the last several yrs, feeling confident that as described in the contract my home/electrical wiring interior and exterior was protected…JOKE’s on me! When I had an interior electrical wiring issue, the rep informed me they would NOT cover it, even though that’s exactly what I’d been paying for! Essentially, they will categorize your claim under one of the many things they claim it will not cover. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! They offer attractive monthly payments, promising coverage, luring you in…Easy money making for them, but when you need to utilize the coverage…they bail!

I have never had a warranty program impress me as HomeServe did in our recent gas line leak. The customer service was helpful, but we ran into issues finding the right contractor to do the job. The first company they sent out said they couldn't fix it, and the Homeserve customer service reps tried unsuccessfully to locate one of their providers who would be able to fix it in a reasonable amount of time. Once we were at a standstill and my faith in HomeServe was tested, I found my own contractor -- figuring the warranty program was a joke. Once job was completed, I submitted my documents and photos of the job to HomeServe and to my surprise, they reimbursed me and stood by their warranty of the gas line. I have never been more impressed with a warranty company. Would highly recommend to anyone at this point.

I can't even begin to register both my irritation/disappointment with Homeserve - please read on: Back in June of 2022, we signed up for their appliance repair program, and the person I spoke with (and I made sure to clarify it twice), indicated to me that if the appliance cannot be repaired (i.e. if a unit is too old to repair due to the value of the unit vs. repair costs), it would be replaced with another unit of equal or lesser value. Being senior citizens, this made us feel good because it definitely sounded a worthwhile investment and we signed up.

Recently, we had to call in a service request for our Samsung Dryer because of a motor grinding noise and it not heating anymore. I paid the $25 service fee, but when I spoke with the customer service rep handling the call, I clarified again (based on what I was told previously) that if it could not be repaired, how would they replace it? She stated that there was no replacement and that this policy does not cover replacement costs. I was devastated - fit to be tied (based on what I was promised in the very beginning).

I've since requested both a refund of the $25 service fee (which I canceled) and also the amount I paid for the entire time since I first signed up for that program. Now whether they'll do that remains to be seen. This is the 2nd time I was short changed by Home Serve. Several years ago we had an Air Conditioning issue (and we had an AC repair policy with Home Serve). When the service tech arrived, he diagnosed that the coils in the attic needed replacement (estimated cost of around $2500). Home Service disapproved the request and we ended up having to purchase an entirely new AC/Heating system instead of getting it repaired. We were fit to be tied, and we immediately canceled that particular Home Service policy.

So please be aware that with regard to both appliance repair and AC repair policies, stay away from Home Serve, especially if you have older units (even if in great condition). Even when talking to customer service, I was passed off back and forth between agents before I finally talked to somebody who seemed to care and/or knew who could handle this issue.

Description of complaint: Wed Nov 8... Called Insurance company to fix 1 outlet that went out in my sleep. He came out and said that that switch on the wall was bad and the electric outlet that had a wall light attached on it was bad. He did something in the breaker box (which he said was bad - and that is COVERED by the insurance per the electric company that read over the policy for me) and then all my lights in the bedroom and bathroom as well as other bedroom went out. He said he could not turn them on as it would cause a fire. He got an extension cord and ran it to my computer so I can have wifi. He said he had to come back and check the attic tomorrow.

The next day I was told by the company that the electrician said that I was not covered and to talk to the electrician that was out here now. I said he was out last night and asked her to repeat and she hung up on me. Called the electrician and he said he was working on it with the company. My friend called them with me online and explained the problem and was told would escalate the problem. The electrician said he would come out on his own to check the attic but then he got sick. He also told me to go ahead and report them to the BBB as you can see in the conversation I had with him on Text.

I called the electric company and they said I should never have let him leave - I said he told me if he turned it back on there would be a FIRE and that he needed to come back the next day. I have LUPUS and can not be sleeping on the sofa but need to sleep in my bed with my electric throw and not in a dark room without a clock or working lights ... Please HELP Me. --

I have insured my water line, sewer line, and hot water heater with HomeServe for several years. I noticed water standing in my front yard in my flower bed. I called HomeServe and filed a claim. The company representative came out to my house. He did not attempt to locate the leak. He informed me that he will need to set up a leak locator to come and determine the location of the leak. I waited a couple of days. No one came by or contacted me. I called the customer service for HomeServe. They advised me that the leak was under my concrete slab and it was not covered. I contacted a plumber.

In approximately five minutes he informed me that the leak was in my flower bed at the shut off valve. Not under my slab or in my house. He said it was probably due to the roots of the scrubs. Due to it being an emergency, I told him to fix it. HomeServe will not reimburse. They had no intention of honoring the agreement. Stay away from "HomeServe" or you will regret it.

Had my sewer line back up last Sunday to where it was coming up in my basement sinks and bathtub. Didn't have a choice but to call a local plumber outside of normal business hours to come clean out my lines before the problem persisted and so my family could use the water for daily needs. Called Homeserve the day after, they set up an appt for me for today to have one of their preferred plumbers come out to check the pipes. I already told the person on contacted me to set up the appt.

I had a bellied pipe. Emailed it over to them as well as the plumber who showed up to my house. Got a call shortly after the appt from an agent at Homeserve letting me know my fix is not covered because the water is running freely through the pipes now after having a short term fix done 3 days previous so I didn't have a bigger disaster waiting for the next plumber appt. So now I have to wait for my sewer line to back up again, call homeserve to set up another appt, wait to send another plumber out there so they can see the mess themselves? Complete garbage! Proof was already sent to the plumber that I have a bellied pipe.

The fact that this company wants homeowners to sit on a sewer problem for days without running any water in the house just so their preferred technician can report the problem is absurd. I am sure once it happens again, they will find another excuse not to fix the problem and will be right back to square one. Sewer line belly or sags require immediate attention. Well you had the proof but could care less about fixing it. Easier to find ways not to cover the fix than actually fixing the problem that is covered until the plan I pay for on a monthly basis.

Stating the reason being is that I paid on a yearly basis. The representative did not consider my 25 years as a customer with very few service calls. The representative also stated have If I had chosen to pay on a monthly basis, payments would have ended on the cancellation date with no additional fees, because I paid yearly they don’t refund. I would have saved $277.00 if paid.

Original Review: I cancelled a premium heat service contract 6 months into the contract. The contract states refunds will be prorated. I paid $554 for the yearly premium. Home Serve refused to refund any portion stating that they preformed a 20min boiler tune up that is included in the agreement. However if I would have paid on a monthly basis they would be no additional charges but if you pay the premium yearly they will not send a refund for the remaining months.

I bought a home at an Auction. I asked for everything to be covered. They read the terms and conditions so fast and worded things like up to 10,000 in repairs and replacement...of parts. They do not replace and what they call parts is the parts they choose to repair and some are just simply not covered. I spent more time without A/c than I ever have with no home warranty.

I put it on 2 homes and one took weeks to get someone out. They had no worry at all about it till I called daily upset about the home I was living in and after weeks finally sent someone out to the old house. They hire Jokers to come out. I was charged for my condenser to be cleaned and they only cleaned the front of it not the back or sides. I paid 500 out of pocket because they only covered one pound of freon and we needed 3.

I I can give 0 stars or negative I would. THe customer service finds every loophole to leave you screwed and the people charge more because of the home warranty. I have never paid so much. Then my A/c stopped again took days again to get someone out. Was a simple fix and a week later the compressor goes out. Guess what? It not covered. Apparently it isn't a part? 9k for a new unit out of pocket. I call again because I thought I might be smelling gas. I specifically said I wanted everything covered. The lady I spoke to was so rude, talked over me when I talked. They had to pull the call to see if they can do anything. THey heard me say I wanted EVERYTHING covered but I did not specifically ask if the gas line was covered so there is nothing they can do when it is the only thing apparently I am not signed up for.

I tell her I may smell gas so now I can't sign up for it. They won't back date it apparently. 3 months ago it wasn't available in my area but now it is. When they ask about inside lines outside lines electric water heater tons of things I pay separate for each and I specifically say EVERYTHING. Still sorry about your luck. In 3 months I have spent over 10k that Homeserve did not cover while I pay them monthly for nothing. They don't have empathy or understanding or see what it is like being a mom of 4 trying to have protection and think my back is covered when all they do is make my life hell. Some years ago I purchased a sewer line insurance policy. Recently, my sewer line was clogged and backed up into the house. I hired a plumber to attempt to open the line with a snake and after a great deal of effort, he was successful. I contacted homeserve about the incident as I had a policy to cover this specific type of claim. Homeserve sent out a contractor who sent a camera down the line and videoed the roots that remained after the initial snaking that contributed to the clogging. Their contractor provided them a quote to remedy the issues with the line (a clay tile line) caused by the roots. They asked him for a second video which he provided. Apparently, they did not like his videos or quote to repair so they hired a second contractor to video the line.

Based on the second video they completely denied my claim saying that as long as liquids can pass through the line they considered it open and functioning even thought roots invading the line were clearly visible in all videos. I attempted to reason with them an obvious point that liquids are not the only substance to travel from the house to the sewer and that any solids would quickly clog the drain. They were insistent in their denial of the claim. I'm going to pay $15,000 to have this line repaired. The fact that they have collected my premiums for years to insure precisely against this type of loss then denied the claim is a deceptive and predatory business practice and, to me, the height of dishonest corporate greed.

When we have a claim, we call up the insurance and tell them that we have a problem and what area it is. They look up our insurance to be sure we have it and then they tell us that they will call someone to get in contact with us as soon as possible. We had a problem in the front yard a couple of weeks ago with our water service line leaking and within an hour, a plumber called and said they were on their way. It's usually pretty prompt, especially if it's something serious. The contractor comes and looks at the issue, and then they call up the HomeServe and tell them what they found and how much it is and what they would need to do. All of that is going on with them rather than us. Then they come and tell us that we've been approved to get this done.

Sometimes, if it’s gonna be more, then they obviously have to talk to us about that it’s not gonna be fully covered. So there's a little of that going back and forth, mostly with the person that came to do the job and with the insurance. And then they do it. Then they give us an invoice saying what happened, what they did and it's done. It's pretty simple. In the beginning, I was a little nervous about how HomeServe does the claim because I was used to doing all that myself. But they have it worked out pretty well with the companies that they use. Everyone's been very good. The claims have gone through smoothly and we feel very comfortable with it now.

It's been a good experience with HomeServe. I just call the toll-free number and tell them what the problem is and they either tell me it's covered or not. If it's covered, they arrange for a plumber to come out and make the repair. They give me the name of the contractor that'll be contacting me. The techs have been very good. We've had some very difficult issues that they had to resolve and they took care of them. The most recent repair was a stoppage in my kitchen sink. They worked until it was freed or unclogged. I've recommended HomeServe to several family members.

My HomeServe experience has been terrible. They put the paperwork on my claim down for a refrigerator, and it's supposed to be for my washer. The tech came out yesterday and come to find out the paperwork that he had in his hand said for refrigerator. So, he had to go back and order the part possibly tomorrow. Furthermore, my dishwasher has been out and they told us it wasn't covered. They told me this twice. My wife called today and got it confirmed that it is covered. So all this time, we've been without our dishwasher, but being charged for that part of the appliance coverage, but they weren't covering it.

They should honor their program. Here we are handwashing dishes, and it's very inconvenient going to a public place to wash your clothes. I don't like it. Also, the place that they set us up with for the repair, A&G, was closed the weekend and they didn't even tell us. So, I kept dialing, and come to find out that they don't even open on the weekend. Right now, as a grade A through F, I'd give them an F.

We have a sewer line coverage agreement with HomeServe paid through our electric bill. On Sunday morning we woke up to sewage overflowing in our home. We immediately called HomeServe. Someone came out on Monday afternoon and couldn't find the clog. On Wednesday afternoon another company came out, put a camera down the external sewage line and found a broken pipe 4 feet in front of our home. They reported the problem to HomeServe and HomeServe told us in 24 hours we'd have approval to begin work. Once we received HomeServe's approval, we'd have to additionally get a permit from VDot.

Time is of the essence. 24 hours passed and HomeServe had still not approved the work. Another 24 hours passed and HomeServe still had not approved the work. ---- Meantime there are 5 of us in the home. The kids are all home for summer and my husband and I both work at home. We cannot flush any toliets, let alone take showers, do dishes or laundry. That is A LOT of POOP not to be able to flush and our house smells like a sewer. So far, 6 DAYS without plumbing and it is a MAJOR INCONVENIENCE to say the least.

Just called HomeServe (again) and was told (FINALLY) that the work had been approved, but it's after 5 pm on Friday so the contractor is closed, and the earliest they can contact us is Monday. It will have been NINE DAYS WITHOUT PLUMBING on Monday and we haven't been able to contact VDOT yet because they were already closed when we called to find out that the work had been approved. We asked about a hotel, but HomeServe said our plan did not cover hotel expenses.

Meanwhile we've had to eat out and find other places to shower and extra expenses for laundry outside the home. ---- In conclusion, called Sunday morning early, now is our SIXTH DAY WITHOUT PLUMBING and the earliest this job could possibly be done is (fingers crossed) Tuesday -- our TENTH DAY WITHOUT PLUMBING. Very disappointed with service from HomeServe.

Customer service took complaint info and had to call us back. She said upper management agreed with plumber's findings and they were not sending a second opinion plumber or anyone back to the home.

Meanwhile my almost 80 yr old mother is having to deal with this problem. The repair people came to check my air conditioning unit because that's where I thought the water was coming from. It turned out that it was coming from the sink line in the house. I got the insurance with HomeServe with the plumbing, so they sent the plumbers. From my deduction, we figured out what it was and they fixed it. They told me that I had to pay 1,800 to change the line where it was bad, but it wound up that the whole thing wasn't bad, so they only charged me 1,000. However, I used up all of what I'm allotted for the year. I had the regular plumber come first to try to snake the sink, then they came with the camera to do the job. All in all, they came when they said they were coming and it was good. It could have been a little better if I didn't have to pay the 1,000, but out of pocket, I saved money, so it was worth it.

Our meter is 100 yards from my house, and it goes all the way down to the end of the neighborhood. The PVC pipe kept breaking on our neighbor's and twice on ours. We didn't have HomeServe at that time. We had to get with the Water Works Board and negotiate something for the water bills. Recently, HomeServe took care of that for us and our neighbors. Their contractor came and replaced some of the pipes outside that had busted. The rooter had initially unstopped it then they came back and put the camera down. They verified where the stoppage was. I was a little bit confused because when I called, someone called and was talking about something else. But we got that taken care of. They came out there, got down, dug it up and had it repaired in less than the full day that they said they were gonna need.

Even though my phone number is on account, they didn't ask who I was or why I called. That was confusing. But the contractor was out within an hour. What they did didn't solve my problem. And I had to pay for an interior. They came out because we thought it was an exterior problem. They worked on the exterior, determined that that wasn't the issue, and worked on the interior. And I had to pay for that. But it was a great experience. And I'm glad we have the coverage.

I'm having a problem with the plumbing businesses that HomeServe sent out because they're not doing a good job. When they came out, they told me that they cleared out a pipe that I had a clog in. But what they did is jerry-rigged the pipe. It came right out of the ground and they made a hole in my other pipe on the bottom. Now, I'm having all kinds of issues. I'm getting dirt up through my commodes and everything and all the waste is going into the dirt. All they do is come and unclog it, but they're leaving me with a bigger issue. They hammered things and then they told me who put all the stuff in. It was there a company that did it.

I was told that if an inspector comes out, I'm going to get dinged on all that because it's not out in the street, and that they already had a flush-out in the street three months ago in my area and it wasn't even out in the street. It's over here on my part. I'm supposed to be covered for interior and exterior pipes. So, I'm having a problem with that right now with HomeServe. They have to authorize and get this all fixed for me.

There were some things I talked to HomeServe's rep that by that time it was approaching 6 o'clock on a Friday. And I had a couple of things on my bucket list. I said, "Can y'all do this?" He said, "Yes. And it'd be under your contract.” I said, "Let us get settled from the other things we're going through. The in and out of towns and schedules, and we'll get back with y'all." But I would like to have him do the work. HomeServe's rates are very modest. But even if they were more, I would keep my service where it is. Because inside electrical things always go out. And that's not something I'm trained to do.

I had two inside electrical switches not work every time you flip them up. And the gentleman replaced those and was excellent. For the dishwasher, HomeServe gave me the runaround. But the gentleman was excellent. He was as cordial as he could be. If we have anything else, I would request him. I was very satisfied. This happened on a Thursday. And he was able to get out later that afternoon. I got a text. HomeServe said he would text me. They thought he could get out late that afternoon or first thing in the morning. But he texted me 45 minutes prior to getting to the house, which a lot of them don't do. And he was on time. He was one of those guys that did it by the book. If I’d want to run a quick errand, my office is five minutes away. And it was easy to run down to my office. I was very pleased.

I called in to request access to the documentation regarding the work completed for my claim. First Alex asked "why" I needed such documents, and then he shared that it was not an option. Unfortunately, this does not sit well with me, as It is documentation of work/services completed for my home! Because I am a paying client of HomeServe for my home warranty needs I should have access to such documents for record keeping for any claims reported and/or services provided. Despite whether or not the services were completed by an outsourced business, HomeServe has the responsibility of sharing any documentation regarding my account, services rendered, and information of any kind for my property from the onset of my account.

I do not believe that this is professional business practice, and leaves me questioning "why" this seems logical to you? I asked this question to Alex, he stated that there was simply no way to send or share the documentation of work completed by the party referred out to complete the job! I truly find this hard to believe in this age of technology where fax, email, etc. are used to communicate business-to-consumer regularly. There simply just isn't an excuse! You can generate a text, email, and phone call to send/communicate reminders and appointment verifications, but you choose not to share detailed record of services provided...not okay! Lastly, after being placed on hold almost 10 minutes, I was told a supervisor or manager would be in contact with me within 24-hours. It is my hope that this phone call occurs as promised!

I've been with them long enough to have noticed the change, and not for the better. I shared my needs and concerns, no response. I was offered better plans that would support my needs, when I called to cancel a few contracts, with 10+ years. As for the service pros, after HomeServe business methods changed I noticed the service techs wanted to replace things that were fixable.

The last straw came when a service tech came to look at my water heater, they refuse to fix it, suggest a new one, around $1500 or more, and to drain this one they had to take it outside. HomeServe didn't cover any of that. The "take it outside" is what got me. I don't have professional training, but I have more than common sense. I called a plumber, the same day, not through HomeServe, I had my tank drained, a few parts replaced a few hours later my tank was and still is running great. All done in place. The savings and the trickery was insulting.

I have a long standing insurance policy with Service Line Warranty of America, covering both sewer and water issues. When trying to call to actually *use* this policy, I’m instead told it’s being serviced by “HomeServe”, something I’ve never heard from. Much worse, despite TWO plumbers confirming an issue with my line, including one referred to me by the insurance provider, I’m told that I cannot actually use this policy as - hey, stupid me- I had it cleared to remove the raw sewage seeping up into my home because nobody from the insurance company would answer the phone or help me.

Now that the line is somewhat cleared but in need of actual repair, I have to wait until it backs up again, call a company that apparently doesn’t exist, and only then can I *maybe* receive service and have the policy honored. This is beyond absurd. I have insurance for a very specific use case, have had it for almost 10 years, and now when I attempt to use that insurance I’m sent into a Schrodinger’s Plumbing situation of a pipe that is both dangerously close to failing and yet not failing enough to warrant fixing under the policy.

I still hadn't heard anything from anyone and called back at 3:26 pm - went from "Charlie" to Angela to Roslyn to unknown male to disconnected. Re-Called to "Charlie" to Teresa who said the request for warranty service was still in the pipeline, but she called it up and got the request referred to a service provider. Very impressed when Teresa called me back saying the first service provider rejected the request and it was being sent to another provider with 24-48 call back. Service provider called & service was set for the next day.

7 Jun - problem assessed - yep it's broke. It will take 2-3 days to get an answer on whether or not repair authorized. 8 Jun - Called 9:40 am - service provider verified report sent to Home Serve. Called 10:13 am Home Serve Jessica started the report was not yet on the system. She verified it was in the CRITICAL category but could take 24-48 hours before it was available in the system. 9 Jun - 8:12 am called Home Serve - Charlie" to Colby transfer to Appliance Repair Team (ART) - Robert not the right person to Cassandra not the right person who sent an email because she couldn't get through to the ART and they would call within two hours. 10:23 am Jessica called to let me know the determination that the fridge was no longer economical to repair and she was submitting a buy out proposal. She would let me know something by Tues at the latest.

The 9th is a Friday, Tues is the 13th. I am right now looking at seven full days without a working refrigerator that it supposedly a CRITICAL incident with Home Serve. 12 - 16 Jun NO contact from Home Serve. 16 Jun, 9:22 am, I called and was ultimately connected to Cornishia who couldn't help me because of privacy info contained in the buy out proposal. Jessica was unavailable / not in yet. Cornishia said she sent Jessica an email and Jessica would be in touch on Jessica's next business day. 17 Jun - received an email from Home Serve requesting "details & documentation necessary to review your reimbursement request" along with photo documentation. The claim wanted to know who repaired, how repaired, & why I repaired without authorization. NO repair was performed as it wasn't authorized. What I have done is purchase a new refrigerator of the same type as what broke. I submitted the purchase document, and claimed the cost of the new fridge and associated installation & removal costs.

This is supposedly a CRITICAL incident for Home Serve. I am now 11 days without a fridge. Thank goodness for friends who can keep my meds cold in their fridge. Due to supply chain issues, the earliest date available for delivery & install is Thurs, 22 Jun. What do I feel Home Serve should have done -

    1. Not transfer me multiple times - if the call screener can't get a caller to the right person the first time maybe the directory is too complicated. This wasn't a one-time occurrence as documented above.
    2. Reasonable updates - Teresa was able to call me back within one hour with an update. The 2nd service provider called me back within 30 min to schedule the next day service. All other updates occurred because I called and persevered through your system.
    3. You, Home Serve, should be proactive in calling with CRITICAL updates - not make me call and pester you to feel like something is going to be done.

    4. Honor your promised call window.

If this was my first stumble with Home Serve I probably wouldn't be this upset. This is the 2nd CRITICAL event where I feel like the CRITICAL terminology is used to make the caller feel like Home Serve is pushing for a fast resolution. Where in fact, Home Serve just pushes things along in an established slow, grinding system - there is no critical mass moving things quickly forward. I wish Dominion Energy hadn't sold out to Home Serve. With Dominion Energy I had a repair determination the same day as the assessment, in fact during the assessment, so the parts could be ordered. Repaired within two days.

I had claims to HomeServe with the utility and the AC. The first one was reasonable, but I want to cancel the air conditioner claim. It’s been a while and I haven’t seen any contractors. My husband found someone else to take care of the AC. Other than that, the service is convenient when you need it, without having to go through so much as we once did before. So, I like the service now.

I've been with HomeServe for many years and they come and they do what I need them to do. I'm a single homeowner and I don't have someone handy to fix the problem for me right then and there. It works out for me. I have every plan that they have just in case. I pay $175 a month for all the plans that I have and even the home equipment plan is no longer valid, I was grandfathered into it. I'm grateful for that. Recently, something was wrong with my washing machine and they came and fixed it. I really liked the tech. When he came the first time, he assessed the situation and told me that one of my pipes was clogged and he placed the order. The only thing I didn't like was I was told that they would follow up with me but I had to call HomeServe to find out whether or not the pipe was ordered. The pipe came in and they gave me the number to call Bing back so that they could schedule to have somebody.

My Ring doorbell wasn't connecting. It wasn't getting power from the box downstairs. Came to find out that my box blew. We had to replace the box. Rainbow Electric came out. This was not the first time that Rainbow's come to my house to do repairs. The guy was very specific and attentive to the situation. What I always liked about any of the vendors was that if I asked questions, they didn't mind answering. I shadow them all the time because this is my house and I like to know what's going on. Everybody always says to me, "You're doing the right thing." I like that they say that. They also don't mind me following them. Plus, they're entering into my home, so I wanna make sure that what they're saying they're gonna do is actually what they're doing.

I like the vendors that they send. Whoever vendor they send, everybody always explains to me what they're doing. They take their time and they explain to me. They tell me what I need to do with my boiler. Only one time, I had one vendor that I didn't particularly care for. But once the supervisor came and took care of everything, and I said, "Don't send him back." And they didn't.

It started off wrong when I called for service on my hvac system .. I was paying for 2 systems.. Found out power company had cancel my contract 'cause they thought was duplicate.. I was not aware they could do that.. I called a week ago for service. My plan was added back no problem. The tech Dave came the next day. He was great and very informative. My ac was not working previously and I paid 1000.00 for a capacitor and I was told it was fixed. Dave told me the tech should have change the evap coil at that time as well. That’s why my r22 leaked out. I was not told that before. I was told it was fixed before. He said I can get an evap coil and r22 or a new system.

I had to wait for rep to call me back from Home Serve. The rep called me on Monday about getting a new system. I advised her what was done and what Dave said. She told me she would research and call me Back. It’s Friday evening and I have not been call back yet. I am so disappointed in this company I have been paying monthly since 2021. Instead of assistance I got a survey and no call. from rep. Please have rep call me. I need help!!!

I've been with HomeServe for years. They deal with the smaller companies. I like the companies they deal with. The contractor usually asked what was the problem to find out, and they would schedule the appointment that they could come out on. I've had HomeServe for my heating system which didn't work right. This other company came out because the company I had before were plumbers. He said, "I know what part's wrong with this, but I don't know if you're covered." And he came up and said, "You are covered," That part was very expensive. I have the zoned heating and I know if one of the zone valves go, that's not covered. But I could call HomeServe and they would get somebody there for me.

I had a guy here a week ago because I had the wax ring in the toilet and my toilet was leaking. I thought the wax ring was covered on the toilet because that was replaced five years ago when I had the contract and it was covered. I said to her, "I don't know if you dropped covering that or not." But they didn't. Putting in new guts in my toilet was not covered, but HomeServe was good for putting on wax rings because you got to take the whole toilet off.

The week before that, I had the pipe that is outside the house for the spigot that you would put a hose on. I called HomeServe for that and it wasn't covered, but I had a plumber here. I said, "Do it." I asked for the same company when I called back the second time because I liked it very much and I also asked if I could have the same person back. They were available. And it was the second time that company got the plumber here the same day that I called. That company was very good. If HomeServe wouldn't cover it, I would use them as my plumber. You got a plumbing contract, they don't cover spigots. So, I have to have another plumber. I could get help and use the help because it's not easy. Most plumbers do not want to do repair work. They want new work. I have another plumber, but I don't know when he could fit me in. He is so busy because he does repair work. Also, plumbers' rates are terrible.

My hot water heater went out on a Wednesday evening and I immediately contacted HomeServe. I was told someone would be calling me more than likely within the hour. Thursday morning 0930am no one had called. I called HomeServe again. I was told they were working on contacting someone in my area who could help me. I called them back with a list of local plumbers and phone numbers. Mind you I am a disabled veteran and my wife is disable too. Thursday night comes no one calls, so I have to take my wife and granddaughter to a hotel so we could shower because my granddaughter has school the next day. We have guardianship of our granddaughter who is 15. The motel was $101.00. F

riday morning comes and still no call. I call Home Serve at 1000am. They tell me they are working to, get someone and they will call as soon as they do. A lady named Kathy calls me and tells me she has someone on the way to replace my hot water heater, but because they are coming from Danville, Va. I have to give him $400.00. She also told me she would refund my motel if I had a receipt, which I did and she would try and get the plumber to reduce the cost so she could refund me a lot of my out of pocket money. She tells me to call here if I have any questions or concerns that she is the only Kathy with home serve. I give in even though I told her I could get a hot water heater myself at Lowes for $400.00. She replied no way that this guy pay a lot more for one at Home Depot for me.

We hang up and the plumber arrives. He is very excited because I had already drained the old hot water heater and emptied the water lines. He did not have a hot water heater and we looked online at Lowes. He showed me one for $465.00 and said this is what he was getting. My old hot water heater was a 52 gallon, but he said I would be better off getting a 40 gallon for power reasons than a 52 gallon and I would save on my power bill. He also told me Home Serve could not get anyone here because they cap their hot water heater replacement at $850.00. So he and another guy goes and get the replacement. It takes them 15 minutes to install it. He ask for $400.00 and gets informed me “yeah you’re getting screwed, but Home Serve is allowing it”. He gets in his truck and leaves. As he is leaving his secretary calls and tell me to make sure I have all the air out of my lines before using the water.

I felt totally screwed. Home Serve never told me when selling the insurance to me that they could not get anyone in my area to service my home, instead they told me that they do all the worrying so I don’t have to. You figure it up, the hot water heater cost $465.00, he worked 15 minutes and was gone. He made $785.00 for 15 minutes of actual labor. I have left numerous messages for Kathy and no one has returned my calls. I have canceled all my Home Serve insurance because I cannot handle another screwing like that being on a fixed income. Do not use these people or you will end up like me with a smaller hot water heater and a additional $400.00 out of my pocket.

When I submit a claim with HomeServe, they respond either the same day or the next day. It depends what time I call. Sometimes I'll call in the morning and the techs come in the afternoon. And sometimes, if I call in the afternoon, they'll come the next day. The last two times, I submitted a claim over their app and I didn't have a problem. But I'm a people person and I like to interact with somebody. And with the app, they can't really tell the type of emergency, like when I had a situation where I had a baby, so I really needed them to try and get the plumber out ASAP because I had a baby in the house and I had a backup.

Recently, I had an electrical issue. The plug wasn't working and when I went to the breaker, I would click it and it was coming, but it was tripping. So, I called them and the tech they sent out was great. He did the test and he took the GFI apart. It looked like the wire in the back of the GFI wasn't screwed properly. He had to do something and reconnect a wire. It looked like it got loose. Then he went back into the panel box and fixed something else. Other than that, HomeServe has gone up in pricing, but so did everything else. So far, I have no problem with them. But I would feel more comfortable with a package deal versus individual projects because I have them for six homes, and I use them for electrical and sewer backup.

What I like most about Homeserve was I found one of the contracts and when I called the number on there for repairs, it was an easy process. They answered the phone and got somebody out right away. I wasn't here for the repairs but one of my kids was. They shared their findings with my son and he sent me pictures of what the problem was. So far, so good. I just gotta fix the hole that they left in my wall. This was my first time using Homeserve and I didn't know what to expect. Even though I pay monthly for the service, I thought they were gonna charge me something for coming out, and that they were gonna charge me for the repair. They have a robotic answering system and you get contacted by the company that they sent it out to. The company calls me to schedule the appointment. Generally, the times that I've had to use Home Serve, it's been the same company. So, I'm familiar with them. HomeServe is timely with the work that I've had done. The cost is relatively low and I get a renewal every year. They're easy to file a claim with and I have never had to pay for any service.
