The technician was very courteous and knowledgeable of the situation. He arrived at the scheduled time and performed a great job. I'm Happy we signed up for Home Serve and would recommend it to our friends. Well done. Even though the service is great, it's the type of service I hope we don't need again.

HomeServe will always show up to unclog my exterior sewer line, but they refuse to fix the underlying problem. One of the local companies that came out said there was a "sagging" section of line and it should be replaced. Homeserve refuses to acknowledge this, and refuses to replace the pipe. I get nothing but a runaround, even though they have to come out twice a year to unclog the drain. They train their reps well to talk in circles, and you get no satisfaction. Very frustrating!

Had a water leak noted to me by the water dept on Wed 11-27 and no water for 5 days. Went to local motel for 2 nights. Home had become a health problem. Was on phone continuously. Had a terrible Thanksgiving. Andrea, LaChandra and Theresa tried their best to solve the problem along with my sons. After 13 days and three different plumbing companies 2 leaks found and repaired by 2 of the companies. It was a ongoing nerve racking thing that I never want to go through again thanks to those three ladies.

The repairman just walked in. Took out old icemaker. Replaced with another one and never checked to see if that was the problem. We are still without ice since he was here on the 5th. Called back. They said they would reschedule the appointment and never returned a phone call to reschedule the appointment. Very poor customer service. Very poor repair service. Overall rating big fat 0.

Clogged line. This has been paid for for a few years and this was the first time I used the service and had to do a bit of work on my end first. After some due diligence, everything was handled professionally by Tusa's Plumbing. I had to do this all by phone from another state and it worked out. I have yet to receive a bill but I did receive a follow up phone call telling me everything was handled that day. Thank you HomServe.

HomeServe has really helped me and I've been with them for quite a while. The payment for the insurance is taken out of my water company bill and when I call them, they always come out. Recently, before Thanksgiving, my sink was stopping and backing up. It was doing everything else it could do and HomeServe sent out a tech from Stan's Discount Rooter & Plumbing Repair Inc. to do some work on it. He was very nice and very polite. Everything was working when he left and it’s been working ever since. All in all, the warranty has been a blessing to have. Whenever I have a claim, I call the number that I call on my water bill and technicians come right away. They also have someone call me to tell me when the techs could come out and everything’s been working out well.

I do appreciate that FPL stepped up to the plate and I thank you for that. This has been a very bad experience and to be told by Hers and His Plumbing that I committed fraud because I quit the service after such a bad experience even made it worse. I do consider my beef with Home Serve to be resolved, I plan to let others know about His and Hers plumbing in Orlando because what I learned while the tech was back to repair their poor workmanship. The Tech sent a picture of the problem back to the person he was talking to at the office and that person kept insisting it was a power surge. I have whole house surge protection and only after my son arrived and took his own picture did Her and His Pluming fix the problem..

Submitting the claim was quick and easy. To get the job done, the contractor expedited quickly, which I was pleased with. I would recommend giving a receipt of what was done or letting me talk to somebody to let me know what happened and what they found when they dug The customer service was responsive and the action taken to remedy the repair was swift. It was a great experience.

This is long, but please read. In less than 2 weeks’ time I have had 4 service calls from HomeServe, waited at home for the 5th service call all day only to have no one show up or call to cancel, and today we still have no heat. I’ve had a HomeServe contract for years. 5 scheduled service calls later and we still have no heat. First appointment - I called them less than 2 weeks ago because my vents were only blowing cold air and not heat. The tech came and said it was because the air filter needed to be changed. We took out the filter and the heat was working, so we thought problem was solved. Second appointment - Later that night the heat stopped working again. We called and weren’t able to get anyone in for 2 days due to a backload on their end. 2 days later, with no heat in NYC, the service man comes and says we need a new control panel. New one was installed and heat was working.
Third appointment - A short while later the heat stopped turning over and blowing air all together. Another call to HomeServe brought about our 3rd service call the next day, by the same guy who installed the panel the day before. He checked the unit and apologized, saying that he “pulled too hard” on the pressure hose while changing the panel and that’s why the furnace wouldn’t heat. He changed the pressure valve, tightened the connection and the heat started working. It worked for a couple of days.
Fourth and fifth appointment - Lo and behold the heat once again stopped working altogether. Another call to HomeServe to schedule our FOURTH service call in just over a week brought another service person a day later, who after checking the unit informed us that the last guy installed the wrong pressure valve which resulted in the heater not working. He ordered a new valve and said it would be in later that night or the next morning (which would have been yesterday) and that we’d get a call to have it installed. Yesterday after multiple calls to HomeServe explaining how we’ve had multiple 20 and 30 degree days and nights with no heat, that our problem was the result of negligence on the part of HomeServe technicians, we finally got a same day repair call and they were supposed to be here between 12-8pm. No one showed. No one called to postpone.
I called and was on the phone with HomeServe last night for about an hour. Talked to the call center rep. Talked with a supervisor. No one was able to help get someone to my home and we spent another night in our home with no heat. We waited home and missed work for 5 days in barely 2 weeks and have no heat. No one from HomeServe has done anything to rectify this except to keep scheduling appointments. I have never experienced such poor service, such uncaring “professionals,” such incompetency on the part of a company that I pay a service contract for. Very disappointed and I would definitely not recommend HomeServe to anyone after my most recent experience.

My heat went out on Friday night so I called HomeServe at 8:30 Saturday morning. At 11:30 the repair person called me to tell me they could not fix my heat until Wednesday which was totally unacceptable. So I called back to let HomeServe know that Wednesday was unacceptable so they started searching for another repair person.
In the meantime we called our OWN repair person and they came out within 30 minutes figured out what the problem was and was ready to fix it but they didn't have a contract with HOMESERVE. So we could have had heat around 1:30 that afternoon but NO we had to wait until one of their repair people was available which was NOT until WEDNESDAY. Mind you, my experience with Homeserve has been mostly good. I've had two covered plumbing repairs on my inside plumbing policy, and both times a plumber came promptly, fixed the problem, and charged me nothing for the service (I had to pay for a part, but that is fair). My issue is with my Heating System warranty - and honestly, the problem arose from me not reading the correct paragraph of fine print. I had read on their website that if a unit was deemed non-repairable, they would contribute up to the yearly repair benefit to the replacement. This turns out not to be true. That is true in their appliance policy, but not in the heating policy.
Subsequent reading of the fine print was a little ambiguous, but it does not promise anything toward full replacement. They did say they would offer me a pro-rated refund of my premium back to the time I bought the policy and this turned out not to be true. When I followed up on this offer, what they actually offered me was a portion of the current month's premium in refund - $6.99. I'm on the hook for the full replacement cost of my furnace - which if I'd read my whole policy, I would have known. So now you know.

HomeServe is the best. An excellent technician came and found that the furnace was fine, it just blew a fuse. He replaced it and I have heat! I appreciate his expertise and his honesty. The previous day I had called a local plumber who charged me $85 for a service call fee + $375 for "diagnosing the problem". He said it needed a new electrode and it would cost $1,400 (that's without pricing the part). I thought the service call fee should be part of giving me an estimate and didn't trust him. He left without reassembling the furnace, leaving the metal panels on the floor like a piece of junk. I was very glad to call HomeServe. Kenny was very professional and reliable. He found the circuit breaker had flipped. Then he found the problem and restored my heat in minutes. I would never call anyone else now. Thank you, HomeServe!

I had been a paying customer of Home Serve for over two years and called for service due to a leaking hot water heater. I waited two days for the service visit only to find out Home Serve only offer "repair" services for hot water heaters, not replacement. In my experience most all hot water heater problems are caused because the tank is leaking and cannot be repaired. So, I had no coverage and had to pay my plumber nearly $800 to replace the heater. Ironically, Home Serve shows a leaking hot water heater in their advertising material which is grossly misleading. When I called to cancel I was told that it was my fault that I did not fully read the coverage contract. And, while that is true, most people do not read the fine print when the pictures present a far different impression showing the prevalent problem which IS NOT COVERED. Stay away from this huckster firm.

Beware! Do not join HomeServe utility insurance in Virginia and neighboring states nor use Clean Air technologies out of Richmond, Ava. Homeserve was originally with Dominion Energy. I received excellent service from dominion energy insurance on all of my plans. Homeserve is totally different. Stay away from them. All you have to do is read the most recent reviews to see how dissatisfied the customers are.
I have low water pressure in the masterbath toilet and sink. The first 2 "Plumbers" from clean air technologies said it was debris that had built up on the pipes and it was gone after they flushed the toilet. However, the low pressure and gurgling noises remained so I called homeserve who sent a 2nd "Plumber." he was 1 1/2 hours late; double parked in the street; carried no tools; and was there for one minutes. He said something about having to check the pipes but left with the toilet still not working correctly.
When I called homeserve to complain that it was obvious he was not going to repair the low pressure issue, they said my claim was being denied because the problem was within the toilet (a valve) which was not covered by the plan. Neither of the two groups of "Plumbers" really assessed the issue and neither came up with the same resolution to the problem. Additionally, if there is low water pressure with the hot and cold water in the sink, how is this controlled by a valve in the toilet?
It is obvious from my experience as well as others this company is a scam. When I initially called homeserve to see who is on their list of plumbers, I was given two names of companies, neither of which I had ever heard. Previously when dominion had the program, the companies were well-known and reliable companies in the Richmond area. When talking to the manager of homeserve, he could not provide me with a resolution no matter how much I tried to clarify the misinformation he had. Run away from any emails you may get asking for your subscription. Right now I get a letter a week asking to join their water heater plan. Throw this junk away!!!
I have been a member of this program for at least 6 years. That's about $6,000 of payments made for the various plans I have. As someone else states, put this money in a savings account rather than wasting it with this horrible utility insurance company and pretend-to-be-plumbing company, clean air technologies of Richmond.

Initially Homeserve was told I would owe $550 but when I told the rep no way did the plumbers need to do inside work they called the plumbers for me and cleared up the issue. Homeserve called back to confirm no out of pocket costs and told me I was good to go. The plumbers replaced my entire line that day and now we are all back to working order without one dollar out of pocket cost.
This was a very easy process with Homeserve and I do recommend them to my neighbors despite being told that normally these types of companies will only put "bandaids" on these leaks even though once a line is moved it tends to leak again and again and should just be replaced. When they arrived they were quick to assess the damage and get started on the job. It started to pour down rain on these guys and they still worked through it. They put up a brand new power pole & installed the service on our Mobile Home instead of another wood pole in the yard. They ran a new wire electrical line under our MH & grounded it to make sure it was up to code and did this all in the same day. The job was almost completed in the same day but due to the inspector not coming out that night we didn't get power until the next day.
The next day Coe Electric came back out and fixed our aeration system, it had to be re-wired. All this was done with great efficiency & great customer service! The last one came and basically told me if they damaged anything outside my property while they were doing work I would be held responsible for. That was intimidating to say the least. We are both seniors but we are not going to lay down and take that kind of thing. We did contact our water authority. They just said to stop the letters to contact HomeServe we have done that. Also asked them if they were aware of their shady letters and they said they do not mail them out. So someone is playing kickback there. Time to go to a city council meeting.

While I was driving to work this Friday, my wife called me and said she noticed the hot water tank was developing a small leak. Since the tank was almost 20 years old, I suggested that she call HomeServe since we have had warranty services through them. The experience was great. They arranged to have a plumber come to our home the next morning and install a new hot water tank. The insurance company paid the plumber $700 for a 40 gallon tank with a standard 6 year warranty. There is no deductible. Newer codes for hot water tanks require "expansion tanks" which I was aware of before the install. I also knew in reading the contract that this portion of the install (expansion tank) would not be covered by HomeServe, so I had to pay $165. It was well worth the cost for a new hot water tank that works great. Thanks HomeServe.

Have had their interior and exterior plumbing policies for at least 10 years. Recently noticed sewage pipe in basement was leaking, not water, but some oozing looking brown crystallized crud along the seam of the pipe. Called for service. Tech came out and was very pleasant...the only reason they should receive 1 star! Bottom line, the sewer pipe isn't leaking water, so it's not technically leaking. Pipe is 64 years old, original to the house. It's obviously going to fail soon and when I have a basement full of sewage, I suppose then they'll replace the pipe. BUT policy wouldn't cover cost of clean up or damages to sewage filled basement, only the pipe. READ YOUR POLICY people. Their service is worthless!

Most recently, when I asked the vendor that completed the work I was told they do not show the cost to the customer and I would have to ask HomeServe USA.
HomeServe USA indicated an invoice would be provided as requested when I contacted them after being denied access to that information by the vendor. I did notice a few concerning things during the yearly maintenance, that was included as part of the service contract, but I foolishly continued to maintain the service contract, nonetheless. Later on, when I had trouble with my A/C system, I realized that I made a big mistake by continuing to use them for HVAC service. Certainly, some of the service technicians are qualified. However, some others are grossly incompetent. Still, others were very ill tempered. One even showed up smelling of alcohol. The customer service is often impolite, even rude. To add insult to injury, I found them to be highly dishonest. The service contract price is very competitive, but the service contract is effectively useless. My central AC died after 14 years. Now, I understand I shouldn't expect it to last much longer, but I would have appreciated a "heads up" last year and the year before to let me know it was starting to go. The unit was originally put in by LILCO, and the maintenance contract was outsourced to HomeServe some years later. Every year in March I faithfully called HomeServe for a maintenance check (and paid them $363 annually!) The technician was usually in and out in about 20 minutes and would tell me "You're all set". I believed him.
THIS year the tech from HomeServe took about an HOUR and 20 minutes and told me that the unit was all rusted and filled with black mold... SERIOUSLY??? YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT THIS HAPPENED IN A YEAR??? Last year I was told everything was fine!! So, we called HomeServe to give us a price on a new unit (3 tons) and they quoted me $8,400 (PLUS the yearly $363 maintenance). No thank you, I didn't trust them after they blew off my inspections year after year. We asked for special price consideration because of the service snafu and the sales rep said he would have his supervisor review our case... STILL waiting to hear from him.

My elderly parents have been paying for their hot water insurance (and five other types of insurance) for years with this company. When the hot water heater went out, it took more than a week to get someone to come out and look at it. When they did come out, they told them the heater would need a new burner. The problem seemed to be in the igniter, but they told them that the parts were now connected because the water heater was "too new."
More than a week went by and still no burner. When my parents called the company they told them that the new burner would cost them $230, or they could pay $285 to have the entire water heater replaced. Later, when I called, they told me that the burner is no longer available for that water heater because it is "too old." My brother found the burner at a local chain store for $100 with very little effort. The 40 gallon replacement heater is a little over $400, but the costs exceeded their maximum benefit value by $285, according to my first call.
When I called back a second time the story had again changed and the $285 was to "bring it up to code." The second guy was not as good at lying as the first guy, and I caught him in several. The first guy only got caught a couple of times. In the end I may have the installation done because it's cheaper than buying one and installing it myself, but these contracts will most certainly be cancelled. They will steal money from the elderly, defraud them, and steal more money when it comes time to actually do the repair. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!

I had coverage for less than one year before my washing machine required repairs. After an initial call to establish a work order, I was told that I'd receive a call back from a repair contractor by noon the following business day. No one ever called back.
After six calls to HomeServe repairs, I was told that they (HomeServe) would have to get a "cooperating" contract repair shop in my area to attend to my problem. Still, no one ever responded or called back. Finally sensing that this is a scam, I called their Billings & Cancellations Dept to terminate my contract. HomeServe's agent told me that I'd receive the remaining credit, < $5, back to my credit card. In the end, my washer problem was solved by hiring a legitimate local repair contractor. Lesson learned.

Original Review: Please do not waste your money on this insurance company. I have been paying annual premiums for my gas line replacement insurance for 13 years and now that I need to use it, of course, there are loopholes and it won't be covered. So I'm trying to get a copy of my plan with HomeServe (since it changed hands from Dominion Services) and it's been 5 days and I can't even get an e-mailed copy. They tell me it takes 24-48 BUSINESS hours to get the e-mail to me, since I haven't been in their records a year yet (since they bought the plan from Dominion Services, not my fault).
So I asked for a postal mailed copy. And again, they have to process the request and I was told it would take even longer to get that. So of course, we will get the work done and not be able to debate with HomeServe for payment since I can't even get a copy of my plan. And I also set up an on-line account with HomeServe, at their urging, but my plan is not on-line either. Of course, it's because I haven't been in their records a year yet. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE COMPANY. Do not waste your money on them!

Updated on 03/24/2019: Minus 1 star-- Follow up on my recent review: After calling HomeServe again, recorded the conversation to them having informed them we were recording it, as suggested by my attorney son-in-law and low and behold a service person appeared an hour later and attempted to fix the blocked line of the sewer as the service contract stated they would do-- but no luck. The plumbing company owner came and said the problem was due to the town sewer line so husband called the town. They sent a company who blocked out over 4 blocks and worked all night cleaning main lines-- no help, sewer still very high in our home.
Next morning we called HomeServe, they had closed our record. It should have been fixed by what the town did they said. We tried standing over the high sewer pit repeating that phrase "you should be fixed" but it didn't work. Called the plumbing company ourselves, had to pay them in cash for service call, they came out, and were able to clear the line--$175.00 in cash (plus an additional tip as the service man was a sweetheart). So now we have spent $200 on bills to stay over night to stay somewhere to use water and $175 in plumbing fees--$375. We are waiting HomeServe, don't keep calling other to say a check is in the mail.
Original Review: Do not use this service. They talked us into this somehow--came out once. Handled a little problem, we renewed it. Then there was a major problem--response was inadequate, but worse than that they lied--said they would come back with a camera and diagnose where the sewer line issue was. Then went back on it and said line problem was ours with no diagnostics--because it would cost money. They hired a clairvoyant. I guess to diagnose it was not their liability. Left us with NO sewer, for many days, yup no toilet, shower, etc. I wish I could give -negative stars!

Ok so like many customers I too have had a really bad experience with this company. Let me start by saying this company is the biggest scam company you will find. I sold my parents house about 1year and half ago and did not know that they had purchase a plan with HomeServe and neither did they somehow they must've signed some kind of paper cause I know my parents don't know how to use computers. At any rate I'm in control of their finances now so I check their account make sure rogue companies like this one don't take money out. I found they had a policy that was taking money monthly out of their account so I called and spoke to a very nice lady that said she would cancel my policy and refund the last month's amount, I said thanks.
5 days later no refund but another charge comes out so I called them on the phone and ask if my account was still active and they said, "Oh yes your account is still active and you have coverage for electric, sewer and water heater." Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I was like I canceled my service 5 days ago and had the lady's name written down (apparently no one knows her). Anyway, I spoke to the cancellation department a very nice well spoken lady who canceled my whole policy and said wait for 5-6 business days for a refund. I am very skeptical that this will happen and am closely monitoring the bank account for other withdraws from this scam of a company.
From what I am reading not only do they NOT cover/repair premium policyholders claims they even give them the runaround. DO NOT PURCHASE A PLAN FROM THIS COMPANY IS A TOTAL SCAM. Small claim courts must be busy dealing with this company. I know I will be taking them there if my policy is not canceled immediately. Thanks.

They are as of now, 100% incompetent. They subcontract for everything, which leaves their customers at the mercy of people who aren't getting paid directly. They schedule repairs with a subcontracted warranty company, who then subcontracts out for repair calls. I took off work to wait for 5 hours for someone to come out, only to be stood up. When I called back, I was told nothing could be done, except to reschedule.
When I asked for something after hours or on the weekend, I was told there wasn't any availability. When I asked which one of their reps would come and wait in my place, I was told no one would. When I asked if I would be reimbursed for my wasted time, I was told no. I had a terrible experience with this company. Beware! And, understand what is covered! I purchased a policy for my hot water heater through Florida Power & Light. When my hot water heater began leaking, I contacted HomeServe. They sent out their local provider. Via their provider, HomeServe approved a new hot water heater, but said that I would need to pay the local provider $425 for "pipe modification". A HomeServe representative told me that the local provider was charging them $640 for the water & installation, but that I needed to pay the $425 out of pocket because "pipe modification" was not covered under the plan.
I asked numerous representatives at HomeServe to explain "pipe modification", but nobody could answer my question. They referred me back to the local plumber. After speaking with the plumber, I understood that this would need to be done for any basic installation of any water heater and I didn't understand why this would not have been included under my policy for installation.
Next, I contacted a plumber in my neighborhood who looked at my job and said it was the most basic of installations, which they would charge $200 for - a full water heater install, including the dreaded "pipe modification". I next spoke to a supervisor at HomeServe and she explained to me that a "pipes" clause was in the fine print in the contract and I should have understood that when I agreed to the contract. I'm not a plumber, but OK. So I asked her why would I pay their provider $425 for "pipe modification" when I could get a full install for $200 from a local plumber.
Since I was apparently so stupid not to understand these terms, I asked if I could then just have the water heater covered under my policy and I would pay out of pocket the $200 for installation vs. the $425 from their provider and I was told no. This is a scam. I'm not sure if HomeServe is the scammer and getting the insured to pay for the installation via the "pipe modification" clause. Wink, wink. Or, if the local provider is the scammer. But, it stinks. I am a single mom who purchased a policy for peace of mind.

I had been home all day, waiting. The technician was in the little white car. He serviced the furnaces. I don't blame the tech. This was clearly a training issue. Dispatch should have called re: the delay. David should have been able to contact the tech. Why didn't the tech have a phone # to contact me? HomeServe needs to streamline their customer contact procedures.

We have a contract that covers our heat and air conditioning with HomeServe. In early summer, our air conditioning was not working and they came and said it was not repairable and needed an entirely new system (priced at $19k). We had a second company come and repaired for $295. Fast forward to the fall and we had a 4 hour window for them to come and repair our heat. We are now 90 minutes after the 4 hour window and are told we have at least another 30 minutes before someone arrives.

I purchased a home warranty through Homeserve USA covering several different items in my house, one being the exterior sewage/septic line. My premium was 143.88 a year which I paid every month on time for 6 years. I had an issue with one of my exterior sewage lines breaking away from the main sewage line. This kind of unforeseen incident is exactly why I bought this coverage. I called Homeserve USA to have them come repair the sewage line just to be told that unless I can see sewage water leaking or backing up in the line it is not covered. WOW! What a slap in the face.
I paid 869.28 over the last 6 years to be told, "Sorry about your broken sewage line, but we’re not fixing it. I obviously canceled all of my coverages that I had through Homeserve USA immediately. If their exterior sewage line coverage doesn’t cover a broken sewage line then how can their water heater coverage be trusted to cover my water heater? I’m also going to assume that my exterior water line coverage doesn’t cover a broken exterior water line. After paying $575.88 for exterior water line coverage, $869.28 for exterior sewage line coverage, and $683.28 for water heater coverage combined for the past 6 years, Homeserve USA managed to get $2,128.44 out of me and not cover a broken sewage line. Learn from my costly mistake and do not deal with Homeserve USA in any capacity. They CANNOT be trusted!

The claim was process and approved for a water heater in July 2018. Today is October 15, 2018 and for the 6th or 7th time calling and giving a customer service rep my mailing address, still no check. Was told the matter would be escalated and a supervisor, who was busy at the time of my call, would call the next business day. That didn't happen even though every call they ask to verify my phone number. Today I called and asked to speak to a supervisor. Was told all supervisors were busy and one of them would call me back within three hours. Like that's going to happen. The main problem is there is no way to get past the customer service people to a manager or a department. They seem very nice on the phone and sincere but each call they tell me they see my mailing address. So why does accounts payable keep mailing the check to my physical address. This part of customer service is absolutely horrible.

This is a FOLLOW-UP to a previous complaint. RECAP: $600+ annually for multi "contracts". Inside of toilet tank problem: Kudos! They sent a plumber in half-hour. Great but not worth $600. Before he even got there, HomeServe phone rep stated that the inside of the toilet tank is (also) a fixture & that is not covered, read (section/item) 2 of your contract. Plumber charge $200+ but what could I do. Gave the contracts to an attorney: SO ambiguous that HomeServe has openings to interpret any way they require.
Spoke with 6-plumbing companies on Staten Island, Brooklyn and in New Jersey: No, the inside of the tank are NOT fixtures. The toilet itself could be considered a fixture but NOT the tank insides nor the pipes in & out. HomeServe would give me $100 for the "misunderstanding...WE (HomeServe) call the inside of the tank fixtures: we don't repair fixtures." THERE is the contract ambiguity: at ANY time, HomeServe can describe anything as a "fixture", no matter how incongruous, at their own whim. LOOK OUT! These are robbers!

I have had a contract with HomeServe for many years. I was having trouble with drainage. I called HomeServe, who sent out Draingo company. The guy Justin ** came out---shined his phone camera under house and said that there was sewage under there. He then said he would let me know. A short time later HomeServe called hollering that they would not pay 800.00 dollars to remove the sewage. I got my flashlight and looked and no water. A little later Justin ** called and said he had a friend that could remove the sewage {there was none}. He even asked how much money I could come up with? He lied to HomeServe whereas they wouldn't send anyone else out.
HomeServe said I would have to find my own plumber which I did and found out the pipe was stopped up. My plumber didn't have a drop of water on him when he went under the house. He did when he took the pipe aloose. I was told to find my own plumber and I cancelled that contract with them. They listened to a lie from Draingo and wouldn't send someone else out to check what Justin told them. That was a week or two ago, but it still bothers me about the lying that boy did to HomeServe, because he couldn't make some extra money from HomeServe and me.

Much to my surprise--no callback. I then called back to cancel the policy. The CSR asked what the problem was and I told her. She agreed that it was nuts that they wanted to come 4 months later to do a tune up and she checked the schedule. She verified there were no appointments open until Jan. This company is the worst company I have ever been associated with. It is sponsored by South Jersey Gas Company. The supplier of gas to my home. Keep in mind you must wait 30 days before the initial maintenance can be scheduled. I certainly understand that policy. I was told I had maintenance on all my equipment with a maintenance program. The call was recorded by them and you had to agree to the plans.
The process from the beginning... Well, it took me over 3 hours to join. It took 4 people to set the plans up. I thought they had it right finally. Wrong! I purchased the two plans as I have a large home with 2 A/C units so I purchased the basic plan and an additional premium plus plan which included maintenance and repairs on the A/C units, heating and water heater or so they told me it would. They were supposed to send the information in the mail, which was never received. I called and spoke with the representative and he assured me the literature about the plan was on the way. It has been over 45 days and nothing has been received from this company...
Well today I called to schedule the maintenance and it was surreal. I was put on hold for over 50 minutes being transferred (no exaggeration) 6 times, I wrote down all their names. End result... no appointments were made. I did get disgusted and talked with customer service and cancelled the plans. If they cannot make an appointment to maintain the units under warranty, they certainly will not be able to make an appointment to repair the units if necessary. End result, I called South Jersey Gas Company, cancelled my automatic payments and told them about the hassles I had been thru. Stir clear of this horrible company...

In three months, HomeServe couldn't manage to communicate with us whether our claim (underground pipe repair) was approved or rejected, and each time we called within that time frame, we received a different offputting response, conflicting statements, or just lies. After many intervening calls for a status, we were eventually told our claim was CANCELED. This, with NO NOTICE, and us still believing one representation that approval was still being discussed. I requested a copy of the contract/policy that would advise me of my rights and obligations but it has not yet arrived.
I asked for a copy of the plumber's estimate and I was told that HomeServe would only provide me with the amount ($1500) they would cover and the amount ($1126) I owe, with no explanation as to how that figure was determined and what the overall estimate was so I could obtain my own estimate that may be more affordable or even determine how my out-of-pocket was calculated. Even the plumber HomeServe had contracted with would not provide me with their estimate, stating they work for HomeServe, and not the homeowner. Why so many secrets??? This company is scandalous. No communication; no customer service; no coverage.

I'm a landlord and use HomeServe a lot and they are fine, occasionally good. But we have a new trend and it's that plumbers are scared of spiders. So now, HomeServe is requiring policyholders to hire a specialized exterminator anytime one of their plumbers is scared of spiders. This is outrageous. Tell the plumbers to wear a special protective suit if they are scared of spiders, don't put the burden on the policyholder - the policyholder has already paid - they pay premiums. The policyholder has already held up their end of the deal. Now HomeServe has to provide a plumber, when the coverage allows. If a plumber is afraid of spiders, that's too bad for the plumber. It should not be a problem that the policyholder is responsible for. How outrageous.

Appliance warranty companies are risky as it is, since they lead you to believe your AC or furnace are "safe" but they only cover specific items. HomeServe (aka Home Emergency Insurance Solutions), however, is a cut below the others. For one, their mailers look like official utility-sponsored endorsements, misleading residents - like my 82 year old step-father - into thinking the company is working with the city. Worse still, when my step-father's old AC unit died, the HomeServe repairman told me the problem was not covered (surprise) and - get this - that even if the part was covered he could not replace it since they don't make them anymore. So HomeServe sold the old man a policy that they never intended to honor! And good luck getting anywhere with their customer service department. The "supervisors" were all polite, but did not return my calls and finally just told me no one "upstairs" will address the complaint. Wow.

At that time I was told that I was not covered because the issue was inside and I was covered for the outside. I was also told that I should have gotten inside coverage. (Where have you heard that before). Their contract is so simple that it would be hard for anyone not to understand it. Called HomeServe. They sent a tech from MANY MILES away - and according to him, he could only diagnose the problem BEFORE attempting to repair my electrical problem. One day when I entered my home office I flipped on the light switch and all the lights went out after I heard a receptacle blow. I looked at the circuit box and a breaker had turned off. I turned it back on, but it blew again. I turned off the switch and turned the breaker back on and it didn't blow them. I replaced the receptacle with a brand new one, but when I turned the switch on the breaker blew again.
When the "electrician" saw the new receptacle, he said he couldn't repair the problem since I had done that. He just left and I never heard another word from him or HomeServe. The "electrician" said that because I had tried to fix the problem, it was NOT covered under my warranty - it was an exclusion. I don't know if I'll be charged with a "diagnosis" cost as yet. I had to wait 2 days for him to arrive, and never got the problem fixed. I finally had to call in a REAL electrician to fix the problem which was a short in the receptacle box that wired a series of receptacles together. Cost... $150.00 - but for a top notch LOCAL electrician with excellent references.
It could have been MUCH worse... my house could have been destroyed by fire, so the $150.00 was worth every penny it to find a REAL, LICENSED AND EXPERIENCED electrician, to get the required repair done, and to discover HomeServe warranties aren't as good as several others. I purchased the HomeServe warranty since it was strongly recommended by AARP. I wonder if they vetted HomeServe before they recommended them and offered a discount for signing with them.
Too bad HomeServe doesn't work with him. But I had to wait almost a week to get it repaired since the REAL electrician wasn't available sooner. I guess it's my bad that I didn't know the exclusion in the fine print. But I learned a lesson... DON'T buy warranties that have more EXCLUSIONS than INCLUSIONS. If ever I purchase another home service warranty, I'll read the FINE PRINT ON "EXCLUSIONS" beforehand. For now, Bye bye HomeServe!
