I'm an electrical contractor through HomeAdvisor and we mainly do electrical panels and services. I call them occasionally when I get a lead that isn't what it purports to be and I'll dispute it. Their reps are good about that, but they aren't very good about giving credits where credits are fair to be given out and that's money out of my pocket. Sometimes they don't give us credit when we don't take it further than just typing it in. Overall, they are good but could be better. Nevertheless, HomeAdvisor has definitely had a positive effect to my business.

The intake valve on the dishwasher stuck open and flooded the kitchen and ran into the basement. I turned off the valve and then the mop-up began. Rang our plumber of 20 years and got no response. Went to HomeAdvisor the next day and found Apple Appliance Repair. They came out promptly, diagnosed the repair necessary and said it would take a day to get the part. They rang back in 2 hours, had the part, came out and installed it. Reasonable rates based on other plumbing work we have had done, quick service, and they cleaned up after themselves. The only "complaint" is that their English is not all it could be and communication required a bit of effort at times.

Our business is generally a tree service, and we have been with HomeAdvisor for 5 years. Their team is all pretty good. I call them a lot for different things. Although I can update things online, I like to do it over the phone. They find my account and I've never had an issue. It's usually a good experience. The only negative thing is that they're a little stingy on giving credits back for certain calls. It generally falls within their user agreement, but sometimes there's a gray area where I think I should get credit but they don't think I should get one. Like when I call and the homeowner never picks up and I've called 5 times, they won't give me a replacement and that don't technically fall under their rules and regulations.

Jason called me almost as soon as I clicked submit on the HomeAdvisor form. About 30 min later Jason called back advising that he had a tech that was just finishing up at another site and that he could have him come right to me from there. I was pleasantly surprised by this! The tech was here for no more than 10 min. When he figured out the issue and took just under a half hour to fix it. All in all was a great experience. Will definitely call Jason for any future HVAC or plumbing work that I need performed.

Our business offers roofing installation and solar services. We were a member of HomeAdvisor a long time ago. The HomeAdvisor team has been fine but the problem I had with them was a few years ago when they were ServiceMagic. They were using our website and created our kind of landing page. If somebody googled our company name, their landing page would come up and it was supposedly a direct match lead. Of course they were looking for us but if they inadvertently clicked on that link, it would go to their phone and they would answer it as us and then sell me the leads. That's why we canceled them. Their leads are hit or miss and I don't really need HomeAdvisor

We used the site to select a highly rated plumber and even booked an appointment through HomeAdvisor. We got an email with our booked time telling us everything was set. This was a minor plumbing emergency, so that gave us some measure of relief. Unfortunately, we got a call in the morning from the company telling us that they were unable to come out for at least five days. So then we had to scramble to try and find a plumber to come out the same day... work we could have done the night before. I don't know if it was HomeAdvisor or the plumbing company (EC Plumbing?), but either way, this made for a poor experience and makes me distrust any appointment made through this site.

My only problem with your service is that after my project was done, I completed a review online and it seemed to be accepted. Until a week or so later I started getting more requests to complete a review of the work that I had done. You shouldn't let a review be accepted unless everything is complete and if it is, you should not be sending further requests.

We do painting services, and I have such frustration with HomeAdvisor and such mixed feelings. Sometimes I get some decent leads, but then other times I feel like they have people who just sit there and generate leads because I can't contact the person. They don't respond, or when you do contact them, they say, "Oh, I didn't want an estimate". Sometimes, it's all right and then other times I feel half the leads are bogus. For the most part, however, their reps are good.
Reviewed Sept. 3, 2015
HomeAdvisor (formerly, Service Magic) doesn't qualify any leads. Home Advisor's standpoint is that they provide you with info that has been gathered from a survey sheet, and that the service provider, Me, can market to those leads anyway that we choose. I was told on numerous occasions from HomeAdvisor that they are aware but that they would lose revenue providing info any other way. That's just a way of justifying crappy service practices. Soon I will have been with HomeAdvisor 6 months and I have a good reputation with my clients. However, it is really hard to work if you are spending your time qualifying leads that I get charged for regardless of whether I can help the customer or HomeAdvisor has done their job of qualifying them. So, if the client isn't a good fit or if they are not in my area of work, then I must call HomeAdvisor and let them know asap to be able to get another lead.
If I don't call then I am charged for the lead period. I didn't have this problem with Dodge Reports. Dodge Reports is very straight forward. HomeAdvisor told me that their program was $119.00 annually, which was a lie that I found out the hard way. After being charged another $119, I called and was told, "I'm sorry that happened but you would need to speak with sales". That answer doesn't help me because the sales department just didn't respond to my call. It seems to me that the problems with HomeAdvisor are all solvable and that business can be gained. But only if enough people respond and create the change that is necessary for success within HomeAdvisor. If not then the invisible hand of competition will take care of the problem long after success wasn't implemented.

The site is easy to use. The professionals seem well qualified. I like the tool to determine what cost I can expect, what people are paying in my area. The response from the vendors has been super fast. Follow up from HomeAdvisor is excellent. Apparently the cost for a vendor to be listed on HomeAdvisor is a bit high. Both vendors mentioned having to pay to be on the site. As a consumer, it makes me uncomfortable. Either I'm getting a better deal than I normally would because they had to pay to find my business. I'm a self-employed finish carpenter and I've been a member of HomeAdvisor since 10 to 15 years ago. The sign-up process to become a member with them was simple. I was already a member of another association and they gave free memberships to those people to get the service. I'm a one-man show so HomeAdvisor is looking to provide a lot more opportunity for my business. I require very little of their assistance. I get one lead a month from them and I get most of the leads they give me and for the small guy, it works fine.
You can get as much service as you want or cut it back as far as you want. You can modify your service area, or the number of jobs you do, or what kind of jobs you do. You can control it yourself. I've changed my service area and what I do. You do it all online on the website. It wasn't even having to contact them. You've got to figure out where you're going and what you're trying to do. HomeAdvisor is a good service, but I wish they would detail the leads a little bit more. Some people call me to patch a tiny hole and I don’t want to patch anybody’s hole, since I run a masonry and tree works business. These are stupid things that I get charged for. I try to get credit and sometimes they do it, sometimes they don’t. It’s frustrating and it makes me not want to deal with them because I’m busy and I have other things on my mind. I also think the leads are too expensive. Why should I spend the money when I can do other stuff for free? I’d recommend them but I’d also tell them what I think. I’m dissatisfied with a lot of things that they do and the way they organize the leads. It seems that they just want to get the call and forward of the leads to as many people as they can. We use HomeAdvisor but it's very few and far between. I try to keep HomeAdvisor turned off because in the long run it costs me too much money. With them, I pay per lead, share them with a minimum of 3 other people, and we usually only get about 30% to 40% of the leads. About half of those are only people looking for an estimate, and not actually getting any work done. It's a good service if you're starting out, trying to build your business, and you have to spend some money to get started, but I now have 120 customers that we do either once a month, every two weeks or once a week, and including about 40%-45% of that is commercial work, so we stay busy.
What happens normally is I'll start turning on HomeAdvisor towards the middle of November or first week of December to try to get some of these people that are lingering last minute trying to get their place cleaned up for holidays with relatives coming in. And by that time, we're slowing down a little bit, but only for December up to part of February. We also use those few months to evaluate irrigation systems, clean equipment and get equipment ready for spring since plants stop growing and go dormant so things go a lot faster. We'll start using HomeAdvisor to fill a 2-hour gap per week and if we can't get enough off our website. So I would recommend HomeAdvisor to a friend if they're in need of business and they don't have a website.

I love Home Advisor. They're really useful for me. We're a painting contractor and we do everything from interior, exterior painting to cabinet refinishing, staining of all types of wood surfaces, concrete coating, staining, ceiling. Everybody at HomeAdvisor is nice. Basically, the way the system is set up, they send me the leads based on my criteria, and if it's not the right lead, I can submit a request for credit against the lead, and most of the time if it has been submitted incorrectly, they'll give me a credit on it. Because of their position in the market and of people's comfort in going online for resources, I get about 75% of my business through them.

Home Advisor sells unusable "leads" at a premium price. They distribute the same lead to all competitors in the area, making the lead essentially valueless. The contact number they provide is not usable - it is a blind number to which the customer does not respond. Most "leads" have already been serviced by another vendor BEFORE given to others - a presumably fraudulent practice for which they offer no apology. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!

I had a very difficult time finding a recommended plasterer for 2 ceilings that was licensed. Plasterers didn't want to handle a job for just 2 ceilings and painters usually aren't insured and not all do plastering. I wound up hiring the only person interested in doing the job although he had no license and did not want to come out for a free estimate. He wanted to do the estimate via phone. He owns and runs the company but has no part in the work and you only contact him by phone or e-mail. He doesn't take responsibility for overseeing the project due to disability. I felt like I hired him blind and hoped for the best. Thank goodness it did come out well although I can't say I would want to do it that way again.

We do cleaning, commercial and residential cleaning services. We've had HomeAdvisor for a year and I feel that it's a rip off because if anyone is searching for service, looking for an estimate or hires someone, HomeAdvisor charges to four or five different companies. I'm paying a lot of money for nothing. They send me same leads. I needed exclusive leads. I tried to discuss that before and they would not listen. We are a legitimate company. We don't compete with lowest price, which a lot of people look for. We compete with the highest quality.
We offer very fair prices for what we do. People would say "Wow" after we get the job done. Other companies are $10, $20, $30 lesser but not even half the service. It's a big risk and that makes the difference. We don’t work that way so I told HomeAdvisor I don't want their service anymore. Right now, we advertise with another company and pay $300 a month. If there is one, three or five calls a day, I pay the same amount, and it doesn't go up or go down.

Mr. Brian Cooper and his Team of Professional Tree Expert Professionals are simply the best. We had a very difficult tree cutting project at our Home in Hyattsville, Maryland, and the Treescape Services Team Members Performance during this highly intense and surgery-like six hour operation was simply fantastic. My wife and I have a highly sensitive and a distinguished old books specialist lady neighbor whose daily mission is to be a constant provocateur and call the county, and the city and the police department and complain about every little thing, including the velocity of any high winds passing through our backyard.
We had a severe case of poison ivy in our backyard and recently hired some landscapers to remove the poison ivy and its roots penetrating throughout our backyard and specially around our beautiful tall pecan tree. In the process of removing the poison ivy and its roots, one of the workers using the machete had accidentally scraped some of the bark of our beautiful pecan tree. Our neighbor discovered a perfect project to complain about. While she has previously cut all the tall trees in her backyard and now has mostly grass covering her yard, she called the city of Hyattsville and complained that we had intentionally damaged our pecan tree and that the tree was in danger of falling on her house and had to be removed immediately.
After calling multiple times and accompanying numerous county and city Officials and trespassing into our backyard in our absence, she had one of her favorite city inspector friends issue us a $1,000.00 unjust and baseless fine for intentionally harming our tree. The city issued a directive condemning our beautiful pecan tree and forced us to have our beautiful pecan tree removed immediately.
Before starting the tree cutting project, Mr. Cooper approached our neighbor with a warm greeting, handed her the Treescape Insurance and Bond Credentials, and assured her that if any leaf or branch fell on her side of the property, he would ask her permission and go clean it. Then Mr. Cooper climbed the tree and meticulously and methodically cut our beautiful, healthy, and tall pecan tree that had been condemned by the city of Hyattsville based on repeated requests of our Neighbor who was paranoid it might fall on her house in a storm. Mr. Cooper's team worked in unison. Some team members were on the ground and with choreographed symphonic roping actions made sure not even a small branch fell on our neighbor's property.
We had kindly asked her to move her old and beat up Volvo car further back in her long driveway. Her car was somewhat under the large umbrella shade of our beautiful pecan tree. She refused to move her car further back in her driveway and instead had her camera in her hand and was snapping pictures during the entire 6 hours of this hard tree cutting project. Perhaps hoping that a cut branch might fall on her car or on her property fence and then she could sue us the Treescape Services.
However, my wife and I were amazed at how artistically Mr. Cooper cut every limb and branch with the precision of a surgeon and his team members and he made sure nothing fell on her car that was intentionally parked under the scene of our operation and ensured that nothing fell on her fence or her property. At the end, our highly impressed neighbor simply had no reason to be complaining about anything falling on her property or on her car.
Then, before removing the tree stump, Mr. Cooper and his team placed large rubber guards against our Neighbor's fence to ensure that the stump chips during the stump grinding would not fly onto her property. After the tree removal and stump removal project, Mr. Brian Cooper and his team of professionals, raked and vacuumed our entire backyard, our neighbor's driveway, and even blew the fine saw dust off our neighbor's old and treasured Volvo.
My wife and I gladly paid $2,600.00 for this difficult job. And we gladly tipped every one of Mr. Cooper's 6 Team Members, $20 each as a small token of my appreciation. This was a truly difficult job that was handled in a excellent manner by a truly professional team. I would highly recommend Treescape Services and Mr. Cooper and His Team of Professionals for any of your Difficult Tree Cutting Projects. Now we know whom to call if our Difficult and Highly Prodigious Neighbor calls and complains about any of our other trees to be cut down. God bless you and your family Mr. Brian Cooper. You are a true gentleman and a true professional of high caliber.
May almighty God bless your parents for raising such a wonderful son. And may almighty Creator of this vast universe bless your wife for working so hard behind the scene in the office. And may our blessed Creator bless our extremely sour and bitter neighbor with a dose of pure love and honey to make her sweet and at peace with herself and her neighbors and the environment that she lives in. Thank you HomeAdvisor.com for finding such a tree expert for our difficult project. May almighty God bless you and your team for a job well done.

We originally joined this organization with the hopes of expanding our home improvement business thru legitimate leads. They try to gain your membership by falsely explaining to you the initial membership. They inflate the annual membership fee to make it look like they are giving you a deal of the century e.g. $1,199.99 vs $287.99. Then a salesperson baits you into a monthly marketing budget and begins to explain that the more leads you get the better the chances of land a job. However, when the leads come in 85% of the leads are BOGUS. Most of them seem to be robotic phone numbers with no real person attached to them, etc.
HomeAdvisor never screens their requests for work because the monies are immediately charged to the contractors through a percentage of whatever the work requested get submitted thru the system. Which is a false way of indicating to contractors that leads are true to fact. We brought many occurrences to their attention of these actions and were brushed off indicating that they refunded the disputed leads when in fact they did not. We were forced to dispute the charges through our credit card company. HOME ADVISOR IS A MEANS OF BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE THRU FALSE ACQUISITIONS OF MONEY THRU FALSE MARKETING SCHEMES.

Multiple responses from qualified contractors; results were professional, on-time completion of the scope of work for a reasonable price. The winning bidder company was articulate and timely, and did everything I had hoped to complete the work.

I've been with them for so long but I really don't need HomeAdvisor since I don't have to advertise. Most of my work is word-of-mouth, and I guess they just changed how they do their business where I don't actually get leads anyway. But I have over a thousand customers and I work by myself so I have plenty of work. But I have nothing bad to say about them and everything has been great.

Needed roof repair due to wind storm damage. Did not know how to find such help. Found Home Advisor via internet search and used their service to find a roofing contractor while excellent credentials.

I learned not all appliance services are the same. They all do not service Sub Zero. Very pleased with the outcome using HomeAdvisor and will use them again.
