I purchased a new GE Adora Dryer and Washer set after years of saving up. I was thrilled to have these Bronze Beauties adorn my laundry room! This was right before the holidays and I looked forward to washing every item in my home before the guests arrived! Three days before Christmas I threw a load in my sparkling new dryer hit the start button... and nothing happened. Was in shock, called GE and was told I would have a two week window before they could get anyone out. I had my kids, grandbabies, elderly parents and multiple four legged guests coming to stay for a week!
I owned this set no longer than a week before the problems started! I could not get anyone from GE to understand or care about the situation I was in. I had to go to the local store, buy ANOTHER DRYER (not GE) and place it in my laundry room between my new "Bronze Beauties" (renamed brown beauties). It has now been a little over one year, I have had 5 service calls for the same problem, months of a having a broken dryer and weeks of waiting for the serviceman and his 5 hour window! The same fuse blows every two months, the same serviceman comes, replaces some random part because he says he has no idea what is wrong and leaves saying "they should give you a new dryer, see you in a few months".
Calling GE is like calling the IRS... after all of the hundreds of calls I have made to this company I have never once talked to anyone that was courteous, caring, empathetic, or just plain nice! They have all been miserable, demeaning, judgmental and just plain rude! THEY DO NOT CARE and refuse to make a WRONG RIGHT! I will never buy a GE product again and am on a mission to spread the word to their future unsuspecting customers about the horrible treatment and apathetic attitude this company has towards the people that have PURCHASED their products.

Bought it 7/6/2015 at Lowe's. First one delivered had metal on metal grinding, they delivered a new one the next day. Today, 2/28/2016, agitator fell off, $300 duvet ripped to pieces and stuck under agitator bottom. Plastic pieces everywhere from agitator. Jumping through hoops to get a repair man. He will be here in 4 days? I even bought extended warranty. I have the receipt but do not have a scanner to submit receipt.

Purchased this GE Washer - model# GTW46OASJWW because it's apparently the only one remaining with an actual agitator and the option of letting you pick the water level. After the first load, my clothes were still wet and sudsy. Thinking I may have pushed an incorrect button, I ran the load through a second time. Still quite wet, less sudsy. Ran the DRAIN and SPIN cycle. Water still remaining in the tub. I consider myself a pretty intelligent person, at least bright enough to operate a washing machine, but this one seems to be smarter than I!!! Returning this machine ASAP!

GE Washer GHWN4250D1WW - Poor Product. I bought this washer 04/11/14 and after it was delivered and set up I and my wife both thought it was a bit louder than our previous washer in the spin cycle. Since our laundry room is on the first floor we bought this machine because it was advertised as a very quiet running machine. We thought that we would just accept this and decided to keep it instead of dealing with the inconvenience of replacing it. (Big mistake!) After 15 months (out of warranty!), we noticed it getting louder in the spin cycle. I went online and started troubleshooting. I was told it was probably the tub bearing (actually a flanged bushing) so I read the article and watched the video on how to replace it. It looked like a major job so I decided to check about having a service person do it. I searched and found that it was very expensive so we put off having it done and we just struggled with the loud noise.
Of course it kept getting louder and louder (started to sound like a jet engine). It became so loud that we would stop it if we wanted to watch TV or talk on the phone. I decided to try and repair it myself. I bought the tub bearing ($20.20), tub seal ($5.99), spanner wrench ($17.14), drive belt ($14.49) and got started. I watched the video and took plenty of notes. When I removed the top panel I noticed that one of the 4 dampening straps was not bolted down (no screw, trust me I looked). I'm thinking this may have been the culprit that started the problem. I finished disassembling and when I removed the drive shaft and tube assembly, I manually spun the shaft and heard a grinding noise. I knew then that I still had more problems so I went back to the store and bought the shaft and tube assembly ($115.03, I have all the receipts). I re-assembled the machine and so far after 1 week it's working fine. (I think it's quieter now than when we bought it).
Bottom line, I understand that in assembling a product like this mistakes (missing dampening strap bolt) happen. I would like a response from a GE representative to help satisfy me before I would purchase another GE product. Finally, I spent a total of $172.65 in parts and quite a few hours (good thing I'm retired) to repair this washer. Thanks for reading and I hope this will help someone who may have a similar problem.

GE front load Washer/Dryer Set. Purchased 5 years ago from Home Depot. Washer delivery service caused a huge scratch in the plastic window. Offered $100 off. Told them to bring new one. Over 30 days to obtain. Finally arrived. Within 1st 2 weeks door gasket failed. Found out new upgrade gasket was available and it was installed. Gasket leaked, operation became extremely noisy, flooded my laundry room. Returned and replaced gasket. Leaked again. Offered upgrade floor model for exchange. Installed and worked well for about 6 months. Same problem with spinning and leaking. Repaired under service contract. Worked for about 6 months. Repaired again, worked for 6 months, same spinning and leaking. Complained to Home Depot.
Dryer operational for 2 months. Serviced by warranty people as noise and out of balance tumbling were very irritating. For about 2 years it was adequate. Failed after 2 years, bearing replaced. Many garments ruined by dryer. Clothes get stuck in drum. Worked for a while and more grinding, squealing, etc. Now about 5 years old. Dryer eats clothing and makes loud, irritating groans, squeals and wobbles. No warranty taken. Cost of warranty barely covers repairs. DRYER MODEL #: DHDVH52GF1WW, S/N: RM757140A, Washer Model #: WCVH69, SN: FS - 161T. Recommend: NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM GE. Poorest of quality in the marketplace.

1st off, I have NEVER complained about anything like this before. I also know that NOTHING will be done, and I understand that. However, I have a washing machine that I paid good money for. The funny thing is, this machine WILL NOT GET MY CLOTHES CLEAN and has been this way since I got it. I did entertain the thought that it was the machine. Then quickly I dismissed that, after all, this is a GE, I mean they don't make faulty washers, do they? So off I went, I purchased stain removers, over and over. Different soap, I always used Tide, but thought, maybe it wasn't working well, after all these years. Oxy Boosters, everything one could think of to get my clothes clean. To no avail!!!
So I did a test myself, I took a brand new white wash rag, bend town, and wiped up my floor. The washrag, had a off color grayish streak running down the rag. I put it in the machine, with a cup of detergent, and hot water. I put a few more items in the wash, and put a safety pin where the stain was. The wash was over and the washrag came out with a STAIN on the entire area I had marked. People, this is unacceptable, not only is it not getting things cleaned, it is ruining the new things. If I was to pay to have it fixed, what would they fix? I realize we are in the age of throw away printers, fax ,machines, even throw away phones. But goodness, are we at that point where it is "throw away washing machines?" Please tell me what to do. I need to get my clothes clean!!!

Bought this GHWN4250DWW washer 10/9/2014 - it worked great until a few weeks ago. When it is on the spin cycle, the washer literally sounds like an airplane is taking off inside my house. The "click" that you're only supposed to hear at the beginning of end of a cycle... my machine is making that sound during the entire agitator cycle. It sounds like someone is smacking a metal ruler against the side of the washer. Does not fill up to "set" load type, leaves marks on clean clothes and does not get all the soap out of the clothes!!! Paid $547 at home depot for the machine. From what I'm seeing so far, looks like I'll be purchasing another washer (not Ge) very soon.
I called the GE consumer line, the rep was helpful, and did grant me a waive for the 99.95 fee to have someone come out and diagnosis the problem and allowed the parts to be free, but the labor I would have to pay for. No one in my area until next week Thursday from 8-5, that's 6 more days away. At any rate, while I was on the phone waiting for 10 minutes to get the approval to have the fee waived since I was only out of warranty by 3 months, I came across this page and started reading everyone else's issues (which are the same as mine).
The rep came back on the line, apologized for the hold, told me they would waive the fee. I thanked her and then I said "So, I noticed this particular model has been discontinued and according to the consumeraffairs website there are almost 800 complaints about this washer. Why hasn't there been some kind of recall on this machine if everyone is complaining about the same problem?" Her response "Ok, we'll have the repairman in your area next week on Thursday between 8-5 to diagnose the problem with your machine." Question disregarded. Period, end of story, goodbye. I will update on the progress next week. And I'm going to start saving money for a Kenmore, Samsung, anything OTHER than GE.

1000M3WW - Gave up my working washer for their washing machine that doesn't work. Rinse cycle will not fill up which then your clothes are washed. Your clothes end up in a super very tight ball. The clothes of mine, it has ripped up or stretched out of shape which in turn pushes the agitator off center distorting the bottom water seal, which leaks all over like the Titanic then leaks on the spin cycle motor destroying it. Their repair company A&E is more like the Keystone cops. One screw up after screw up. It hasn't worked for three weeks. Their motto on their operating states "Laundry Your Way", that refers to a working unit. Something they don't care if we the customer has or not. This is the second unit of theirs all not even lasting a year. If I wasn't on guard to assure the rinse cycle had enough water to cover the it would have been very much sooner on break down.
It doesn't even have a spin after the wash which leaves your clothes very nasty on top of their thimble of water on the rinse cycle. Not a true washer. It just transfer nasty filth to your cleaner clothes. I'm a retiree, seems a rock on the Missouri River will be my new source of water with that old nasty river brown shade to sport on my clothes. Dang shame it's not a set and forget washer, the old wringer type washer is preferred to this Titanic disaster.

GCVH6260HWOW upright washing machine began not following proper cycles. Did not wash properly, then did not drain, eventually did nothing. Called the local repairman (we live in a rural area) he attempted to repair but said he had no access to the codes that came up. Apparently GE sold the codes to someone in a foreign country and you would have to purchase them, which he was not willing to do. Called the GE service centre in Winnipeg and they only do house calls. They would not travel the 100 KMS, and they do not have a shop where I could drop off machine. I then called GE directly and they basically told me, "tough luck". I then contacted Barkman Appliance Repair in Steinbach. Nice people. Delivered my washer to them. Had an estimate by the next morning. Over $700.00 for a new main board. This washer is 7 years old and cost around $1500.00. Another piece of scrap metal for the shredder. I called Best Buy, they said it's passed their warranty so I called GE consumer relations and I was told they would NOT refund my money but instead would send a service man out. Given that this button needs to be pushed with each and every load, I would hope that GE would look at replacing this mechanism. GTWN4250 noisy and low water level. From day one this washing machine makes a loud thumping noise while spinning. A GE repairman replaced the tub under warranty, then after the new tub still made the noise he said all of these washers make that sound. This washer has never filled the water level to cover the clothes since being new. Six months earlier we purchased a set of speed Queen washer and dryer for our northern home. The speed Queen was an excellent choice because you can select the water level as you used to do in the old days and there is no rumbling noise when spinning. I wish we would have purchased speed Queen for our Florida home.

Wish there was a zero star rating. Bought a stackable washer/dryer combo less than a year ago, completely broke down in six months. Called GE to arrange repairs, had to wait for someone to contact us. Finally, someone gets back to us -- we have to wait a week for the repair person. Repair person looks at the washer and tells us it will basically need a complete overhaul, wait a week or so for the parts to come in. Parts take their own sweet time. Repair person calls us -- the tub is cracked, have to send it back. Wait another week plus some for new part, another week for repair person to come. Repair person comes, decides it's un-fixable.
Wait a week for GE to decide to do something. Wait for service repairman's boss. Boss tells GE that they need to replace machine. Wait a week for them to decide that they want a SECOND OPINION. Wait a week for new repair guy. New repair guy says the same thing -- it needs a complete overhaul. Drags parts away, tells us it will be a week-and-a-half before parts come in. Called us last night to tell us that GE says the parts won't be in until mid-February. We have already been without a washing machine for more than two months, looks like we won't know if it can be repaired for another two and a half months. Four + months without a washing machine. We've already spent more than 600.00 at the laundromat, not to mention the lost days of work waiting for the repair people to show up. GE has offered to reimburse us 50.00 for laundry costs --- 50.00. Can't get anyone on the phone. This is freakin' ridiculous. Never buy GE. Never.

Hello to everyone who has had trouble with moldy washer issues. Here is the absolute truth about front load washing machines: THEY ARE CAUSING TROUBLE ALL OVER THE PLACE AND THE COMPANIES (mine is GE) TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEMS THAT ARISE. Both the companies and the technicians know EXACTLY what is going on, but since the almighty dollar is more important than customer satisfaction, you will just beat your head against a wall trying to get some sort of assistance that won't cost you more than a new washer. The area beyond the inner drum builds up with scum and mold beyond what you might imagine. I know - I have seen it for myself a few times.
Once you have an odour issue, it won't matter if you leave the door open, use Affresh tabs, run bleach or vinegar through the washer, or remove the door gasket and clean around it. All of these are temporary solutions to a problem that will almost certainly occur regardless of operator habits. Why? It is the nature of the design of the machine. There is no way to drain all the water out of the machine, and if you use a biodegradable soap, the problems are worse, since the soap biodegrades as it sits in the water beyond the drum. Any good technician knows the truth. There is no way they have not seen inside the workings of a washer that makes clothes smell bad. But, once again, their income relies on these little fix-ups that make you think they will last, when in reality, the moldy smell is only a week or two away.
We have been all over the internet and read reviews on all washers. After reading many, we are switching back to a top load washer once our current one develops the odour issue or breaks down. The only reason we are able to continue using the front load we currently own is because my handy husband dismantles the washer, piece by piece, until all inner surfaces were exposed, allowing us to clean them with CLR. He is not a washer technician, but the videos on YouTube helped him to do this job. Warning to those purchasing front load washing machines: EXPECT ODOUR IN YOUR CLOTHES AND DON'T BELIEVE FOR ONE MOMENT THAT THERE IS AN EASY FIX!
If you currently struggle with an odour issue, you would be wise to pull apart the machine yourself, since it is about an eight hour job, and the cost for a technician to do a thorough job would be greater than the cost of a new machine. Then, be sure to do the following: 1. Leave the door open between loads 2. Don't use too much laundry soap 3. Avoid biodegradable soap 4. Don't bother asking the company for help, especially if the company is GE. GOOD LUCK TO ALL! I HOPE THIS HELPS!

How can a big company like GE not know what is going on! Never have I seen so much incompetence in one place! Now on to my problem! Right after we bought this machine (modelwbvh5200j1ww), we had problems with it no spinning, all the water out of the clothes - so we called GE for warranty work to be done. We also noticed around this time that the drum was doing more than spinning - it was wobbling. We told this to technician - he told us that GE would not warranty a stainless steel basket to be replaced.
It was not the basket that was the problem - the spider on the rear had broken into three pieces! The tech called it operator error! Now, I get a message in the mail telling me that the warranty will be up next march, and they want me to extend my warranty! If I know now that they wont cover the spider, why would I extend any warranty on this junk machine! You can bet that I will never purchase another GE appliance again! At the recommendation of a local appliance store, I purchased the above dryer. (I could not find anywhere to post reviews for GE dryers). During my first use, I noticed water sitting on the floor below the front of the dryer. Also, the items in the dryer never completely dried, even after running the dryer for over an hour. My contractor looked at it (we assumed it was an installation problem at first). But then discovered that this dryer is designed to have water sit on the floor at the front of the machine with each use. I was not used the steam technology "feature". Apparently, with the dryer, steam will come into the dryer whether you select that option or not.
Water sitting on the floor is documented in the manual, so GE is not trying to hide this. But since most people do not read the entire Owner's Manual prior to a purchase, prospective buyers should be made aware that items will never completely dry and water will always be on your floor when using this dryer. Again, this is not a one-off problem. This machine was designed to not completely dry items and was designed to leave water on your floor with each use.

Washer GTWN4250 - OMG where to begin? This is my first online review ever. Do not buy this washer - all of the reviews are right... I am not a competitor nor a disgruntled employee. Just a consumer who purchased this hunk of junk October 2014. I am in my second and it is October 2015. GE's consumer relations department is a joke and beware of Anya, the person who I would continuously be con feted with regardless of department I called. She is rude and unprofessional. When I asked for her supervisor, she said there wasn't anyone. It was a Complete nightmare. It took at least 3 repairmen to come to my house to evaluate the first machine. The first one said to call consumer relations. The second couldn't see any problem with it but didn't take it apart. The third one came to my house at 8:30 pm! But took it apart and agreed that this machine was flawed.
Issues? How about having to spin dry a load 3-4 times to get all the water out, how about water in my floor regularly, and the tipping point? Black streaks on my new white towels which I had to wash over again. We are on a well so you can imagine how ticked I was having to waste more water. Not to mention all the electricity having to respin! Oh and it left white steaks in some black clothes - go figure. I wanted my $ back but GE would not agree. So they sent a new machine. Same troubles with this one and I have pics to prove it. Now I am going to attempt to involve the president of GE in Fairfield, CT or someone in corporate rather down south in their God-forsaken consumer relations department. I will NEVER buy another GE product after this experience and I really do want to support an American company. This has been a nightmare.

We have had our front end GE washing machine for about 5 years and ever since the day we purchased it, I have HATED it. I have tried to contact the company of GE but because of my lack of knowledge to find the right place to contact them - I have had no success. If you put more than 3 pieces of material in this machine, it shakes and makes an awful noise and the clothing feels as if it never went through the drain cycle. This should not happen. It also has an awful odor that comes from the machine. Does anyone know how to reach GE?

We bought a washer from hhgregg in June of 2015. In October I was washing my mattress cover and it got stuck under the agitator. Repairman came as I was directed to do by GE and found no problem with machine. My mattress cover has black on it and 2 cm holes. I purchased a new cover at $95. Called your insurance dept and had several communications with them. Said nothing they can do if machine is fine. Then the woman today said it was probably how I put it in. Really!!! I have washed for 40 years and never had a machine do this. I will never buy another GE appliance. You should stand behind your products.

My parents in their late 60's and 70's are lifelong GE customers. In January 16, 2015, my parents purchased a GE washing machine serial GTWN7450H1WW. Serial Number VD103328G. After renovating their kitchen, they got a washer, double door fridge, microwave, and dishwasher. In late July, the machine started having problems. After less than 2 minutes of being turned on, water filling in, it would read on the screen - Sense. The machine would still be locked, but wouldn't work. My mom called GE, and was transferred all over different department, she eventually went to Home Depot to her sales agent, who she has worked with for years to help. The lady, called GE, and GE arranged for a contract person came out from their end to fix the problem. The gentleman who came was quite rude to my mom. Problem was fixed, but it was a temporary one.
Problem occurred on August, I decided to call, spoke to someone to explain that the problem started again. During this time I took off work due to my mom's work scheduled and her taking off work twice already. GE apologized, however less than a few weeks in September, the problem happened again. At this point, we were given a case manager, Maquita. Since this was the third time in less than 3 months, I asked what could be done. They said they could only send someone out as the one year manufacturer warranty did not cover replacements, only repairs. If the machine is fixable according to their service workers, then that is the only option. My parents live alone, so the machine only gets used every 10-14 days.
On October 13th the problem occurred again. The door of the washing machine wouldn't open even after you unplugged it. Called GE, spoke to Terry and they ordered Mckinney Appliance repair in the Philadelphia area to come to fix it on the 15th between the hour of 8 and 12, Mckinney was a no call/no show. I called and spoke to Eric and Jamie, who confirmed nothing could be done, but another service order. A service order for October 19th was done by Alicia (who has originally called to see how the appointment went. I told her to read the notes from Eric and Jamie, cause no one called back). She apologized and order Mckinney to come. Once again the contract company was a no call/no show.
Our wonderful sales agent at Home Depot called, and spoke to Kate from GE. After Kate read the case, she understood the frustration on our end and the sales agent from Home Depot. Kate mentioned she would try to see a replacement after reading the notes on the account. I finally received a call from the case manager Maquita today, who I had left numerous messages for since October 13th, only for her to call me to tell me that the request from Kate for a replacement was declined, and a GE service person would be out on Monday the 26th between 8-12. This is the 7th time someone has had to take off work for a washing machine. This is going to be the 4th repair order, 2 no call/no show. I explained that this was unfair as I have to commute to from NYC to help my parents on this issue. We have spent a total of about 80 hours calling, taking off work, going to Home Depot, being on hold with this issue.
GE has refused to do anything to extend the warranty another year. I explained this product is less than a year old. This was the 7th time someone has had to take off work to deal with the problem. The case manager wasn't very helpful, neither was any of the individuals we spoke with except Alicia and Kate to some degree. This is a total waste of human capital, resources, time, lack of empathy and training, and lack of sophisticated operations. I don't understand the premise of a consumer advocacy department from GE appliance, when these people aren't advocating for lifelong consumers.
Can someone please tell me what a one year manufacturer warranty truly covers? We can't afford to keep taking off work to repair a potentially defective unit. It looks like it will actually be cheaper to purchase a brand new washer than deal with GE and their "generous one year manufacturer warranty" extension. Unfortunately, we live in America, where we get 14 days of vacation. Sick days and vacation days shouldn't be spend on nonliving items. This entire experience has been quite frustrating for my parents who are senior citizens. GE continues to lose loyal customers, and future customers.

GE washer model # GTWN4250D1ws: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!! THERE IS NO BIGGER PIECE OF CRAP ON THE MARKET!! Never filled properly from the time of the very first load. Always had to keep a bucket near the washer to add enough water. Water temp is a joke. Once you close the lid it will only fill with cold water no matter what the temp setting is. Make horrendous noise when doing anything because it has no transmission and everything runs directly off of the motor. Now less than a year since purchase it will not drain all of the wash water. After it runs the rinse cycle there is still soap suds left in the clothes and now it does not spin fast enough to even get the clothes close to being ready to put in the dryer. It deserves no stars and it should be recalled by the Consumer Protection Agency and anyone who bought it should get their purchase price refunded.

GE Model # GTWN4250DWS 3.8 cu. ft. Top Load Washer - The 754 Complaints with ConsumerAffairs are right and as of today 755. This washer is less than 2 years old and it is already showing signs of disrepair. The washer in no way cleans an extra large load and that could consists of a blanket and sheet set. The tub is large but deceptive because it does not fill even halfway for an extra large load leaving clothes not as clean as if you made the load medium.
The "Auto Fill" Load Sensor is a joke. I did not use that again after my very first load when the water only filled up enough for a small load when I had a large load in the wash. This is not efficient because I would have to wash a number of mini loads on the Extra Large load setting to get them all clean. Since the washer does not agitate, but bounces the clothes up and down (HYDRO) the loads are always uneven. I have to stop the washer and situate each piece of laundry in an effort to create a perfectly even load for the wash cycle and 9 times out of ten, the rinse spin will have the washer banging all over the place so I will have to stop it and rearrange the clothes in an effort to get a perfectly even load before restarting the rinse.
I experience uneven loads with all size loads. Somehow the items end up all on one side of the washer. No one loads a washer; putting all the items on one side of it. There is no warm water. Even if you set the water temp to warm, the warm comes out hot and the hot comes out hot so there is no warm. Don't change and setting during the fill. The washer will stop empty, out all of the water and detergent and start over. I purchased this washer September 2013 and now it takes forever to start spinning, while it clanks and makes a bunch of noise as if it is trying to get started.
What is so disappointing is that I gave my Kenmore Washer & Dryer set that I had for 6 years to my daughter. In the 2 years that she has used the Kenmore set it is still in excellent working condition. And here I am looking for a repair service to fix my failing 2 year old GE. I have had to modify the way I sort my clothes and my load sizes for this washer to manage what my Kenmore had no issues with for 6 years. This is the only GE product I own and Now I would not consider another GE product for any reason. If this HYDROWASH is new technology it is actually setting us back and ripping off the consumer.

Checked things out, restarted, and washer decided not to agitate or spin. Repairman out this morning and said it's pretty well shut. Cheaper to replace than repair. This review is regarding GE Profile Washer model number WPDH8800J0MG. I purchased the washer in 2011. Recently, it made a thunking noise and I smelled burnt rubber at the end of the cycle. I went online to see what the problem could be before I called the repairman. Turns out, my washer was one of many GE front loaders with a safety recall. The machine spins so fast, it can break the seam in the basket.
A technician was called to install the recall repair (slowing the machine down). Turns out the concrete counter balance in my washer broke and fell off the basket. The machine spun so fast it had cracked the concrete! According to GE, this was not covered under the recall. Apparently it is acceptable for this to happen to a four year old washer. I was told I could pay 2,300 for the repair or they would happily prorate a new machine. They would give me about 15% off a new washer. Not only was I sold a defective washer, but GE took no responsibility. Never was I told, "sorry, this happened." 15% off a new washer - I passed on the offer.

Washing Machine is about 7 years old, a top-load center agitator machine from the GE 'Profile' line with a stainless steel basket. After about the first year it started shedding some kind of powder or gritty residue on clothes. Sometimes it's a whitish powder stuck to clothes, sometimes it's clumps of grey crud rolling around in the bottom of the basket. It's usually easy to brush off, though sometimes dark clothes need to be washed again. Then for the past year it's been shedding larger chunks of metal - these chunks at first were the size of a fingernail, rounded, eroded chunks of grey cast metal. They come from inside the agitator, as they end up in the pump (a separate unit on this machine) and occasionally jam up the pump. Now larger chunks are coming off - I can hear them bouncing around under the basket while the machine is spinning and then they find their way into the drain hose and with a clattering sound they stop the pump.
Lately the pieces are so big I have a hard time getting them out of the pump. I am fortunate to know how to diagnose and address the problem, but each time it creates about a half-hour of work, more if it happens when in the middle of a wash cycle and I need to empty the washer with a bucket to clear the pump. I am wondering how much longer until this thing just self-destructs, but when it does I will be looking for another brand! This definitely appears to be a quality control issue, but GE will have nothing to do with it..

Purchased a GE top load washer (model # GTWN5050M1OWS) after reading a number of positive reviews at the GE web site. Those people must have been paid by GE to write them. Let me start by saying that I have had training in appliance repairs and at one time owned a repair business. The first problem came after it was first installed. It made some noises I had never experienced in a washer. I called the company and they sent out a technician that told us it was a normal sound for this type of machine so we lived with it.
After about three years of use (we normally used it three to four times a week) it began making even more sounds. This time it sounded like a bearing was going and it progressively became louder. I decided to replace the bearing. When I took the machine apart I became aware of some metal filings on the clutch which is a sure indication that there is some metal on metal scraping going on. As I delved further into it it became very obvious that not only the bearing was bad but the clutch was also gone.
After adding up the total cost of just the parts needed (including a special tool for removing the tub) it came to more than half the cost of a new machine with no guarantees that this would not happen again. This machine was put together with inferior materials. I just junked the machine and went out and bought a new machine (definitely not a GE). My complaints to GE have thus far gone unanswered. Someone mentioned a class action suit to be brought against GE. I am all in for that.

Shameful that a major brand appliance did not last 7 years. I was a serviceman and manager for many years and rarely saw such an issue on a major appliance. I could repair this with just the basket assy and keep it in service for the rest of an assumed life expectancy. My only complaint with GE is that it takes me too long to do a load of laundry. I live in an all-electric community and the washer does not give short time cycles. It takes me an hour to do a small load of clothes. Even the speedy cycle takes too long. Between washing and drying it takes me two hours. And on off peak hours after 9 PM, I am up until 11 PM or 12 AM doing laundry. That is so stupid. Go back to the turn knob for the people like me who just wants to wash a five or ten minute cycle. Let the customer decide how much time they want to do a load of laundry.

GE Profile Washer - This is by far the worst washer I've ever owned. I purchased this HE washer so that I could save water, electricity, and overall save money. Well... I wish I had not given away my old school washer. The GE Profile will constantly reset once the washer has filled with water and then it will empty on its own, fill up, empty again and so on and so on. I'm not saving on water, detergent, or electricity WHATSOEVER!! It will eventually complete a wash cycle. And something else, heaven forbid that I need to soak an item. The tank will leak all over. Thank God my washer is in the garage. I've called GE countless times and have gotten nowhere. They tell me they've had no other complaints like mine and the product has not been recalled and to pretty much consider buying a different GE washer.

Had this GE washer (gtwn4250wwn) 6 months. About 2 mos. in starting seeing towel and sheet hems torn, frayed or torn off as well as holes in cotton clothes and towels! This machine also leaks underneath, not all loads but a lot (under front and left side can feel wet). Repairman 4 months in said agitators rough underneath (I could feel it and noticed before he came), said is a common problem in their agitators. He's smoothing down agitator and ordered new one but felt would be same and it did come rough underneath! Even though it still is shredding my towel hems and side heads as well as holes in cottons. He couldn't see prob w/ leaking underneath but continues, and under review see others are experiencing!
In my opinion you can't have these lower water levels - clothes need to be covered with water and their agitator system - hydra flow and the jet airplane sounding spin cycle is all too abrasive on the clothes. Gov't gives these save water regulations and these washing machines are terrible and just don't do the job like old ones, horrible to get new washer and it shreds and tears your clothes. I say screw these low water regulations. They don't work. And also it looks like large capacity but since water levels are so low can't put as much clothes in and have to wash more extra loads and that doesn't equate to water or energy savings!
And wash cycle way longer than older machines so more electricity doesn't equate to energy savings in my book. I think gov't and appliance manufacturers need to rethink the mess they made with all this so-called energy saving and the garbage appliances. They are allowed to rip all of us off with poor quality and no agency is overseeing the ripoff to the public of our hard earned $s!!! I would not recommend this washer to anyone. However we do need a good old style agitator washer again as they never tore my clothes.

Bought a GE Hydrowave machine 5/14. The outside housing of my 20 year old Kenmore series became detached from the basket inside of the machine so I decided to replace it with a new one. WHAT A BIG MISTAKE that was. In all that time I had to have it serviced only once. I wish I had kept it. I went looking for a new one. I was looking for one that you had control over the water level and with one of the new type agitator. There was NOTHING out there that was anything like the Kenmore. I told the company that I bought it from what I wanted. They could not come up with anything I wanted. I went through 3 different washers. They finally said that this was the last one.
I do a lot of antique linens for my antique business. I need to have control of the water level. This washer will only fill to the halfway mark. I have never been able to fill it to the top even when I set it to the highest level. It never seems to have enough water. I will say I like the fact it doesn't tear up the clothes. I haven't had a leakage or spinning problem YET. At least after reading these comments on this washer I will know what to look for in the future. When it comes time to sell our house I will be leaving it here and let the buyer contend with the problems in the future.

GE Washer Dies Early Death: Shame on You, General Electric! Shame on you, GE! We believe you knowingly sold us and many others a defective washing machine that breaks down as soon as one year after purchase (even earlier for some folks), and you offer customers no compensation via recalls, replacements, free servicing via extended warranties, or free estimates on repairs. You have cheated us, and we are extremely angry and demand compensation.
Have you even reviewed the complaints online? One of your victims brought up filing a class action suit against you. After what we experienced and what we've been reading about your poor product, we believe this is a viable option. Our washer broke down after only about six years of service when, according to one source, the average lifespan of a washer, whether it is a top-loader or a front-loader, is about 14 years. This is determined by calculating seven loads of washing per week, or doing one load per day. *We did only one load a week, but your washer couldn't even handle that for more than six years.
We purchased our GE washing machine, model #WPRE61501WT at Lowe's, Highland Heights, KY, in 2009 for $430 plus $159 for a four-year service contract on the washer and companion dryer after doing extensive research online which included positive reviews. So much for believing such reviews. (Did your public relations department write them, we wonder.) Since then we have spoken personally to an expert on GE machines, and he and others online assert that all models like ours with HydroWave technology have been problematic from get-go; specifically, the washer has a faulty motor and mode shifter. Customer complaints online support their assessment and our experience with the machine.
Our problems with the machine began when we noticed a disagreeable odor being emitted from it about six months ago. We used the HE detergents, as instructed, but this didn't prevent the foul odor and neither did a washing machine cleaner. Then quite suddenly, about a month ago, the machine stopped spinning and draining. My husband did some troubleshooting, following the brochure you supplied us with, but to no avail. The spinning/draining function wouldn't work. To drain our wash loads, we have been using a 20+ year old washing machine made by one of your competitors. It is still working fine after all these years.
Thank you, Whirlpool! We should have never left you! We thought we would give your company one last chance to right the wrong we've been dealt, and we had a GE service person visit us and diagnose the problem and estimate repair costs. Wouldn't you know it it would cost us more to repair the machine than it cost us to buy it! Over $400 in repair costs, plus the $89 service charge. We should have skipped the service call and applied to $89 to a new washing machine from another manufacturer!
We believe we deserve to have this defective product of yours replaced with a new functioning washing machine or, better yet, since we no longer trust your products, we would like monetary compensation, including a refund of the $89 service charge. We don't believe there's a blue book on washing machines so we don't know what a fair refund would be on a six-year-old machine, but we would like part of the purchase price refunded. When we purchased the machine, we thought it's life expectancy would be much longer than six years.
Of course, we'd also like to hear your side of the story: are we expecting too much from your company regarding the life of its appliances? Should we expect one of your washing machines to last only a year or so or six years at best? If so, shouldn't your company be upfront about this? How many others have written to you to complain about problems with this model washer? And why is the washer we and others purchased so poorly made to begin with: flawed design, defective parts, inferior construction machines programmed to self-destruct early so that consumers are forced to spend more money on repairs or a new machine lack of quality control?
Another question: why aren't recalls required for poorly made products with serious problems other than safety issues? To say that we are disappointed in your company is an understatement. You have lost our trust. And we regret that you leave us no choice but to never purchase another GE product of any kind and to spread the word about the poor quality of your washers and urge consumers to question the quality of your other products before spending their hard-earned dollars to purchase them.

So we replaced that. The next thing to start happening is it will not always do the spin in the rinse cycle, thus I think the clothes are done and they are still soaking wet when I go to get them out. Due to the frequent randomness of this, we haven't figured out what is causing it yet, so that has not been fixed yet. But now that is the least of my worries because now the machine just wants to constantly overflow on the wash fill up!!

The washer failed recently and upon inspection of the tub assembly we found that extensive corrosion and breakage of the spindle was the cause of failure. Electrolytic corrosion. It looks like they used the wrong material for the piece which is constantly submerged in water while the washer is in use. The spindle has 3 spokes, and all of them were broken at the base by the hub. To replace the part, you have to order an entire new tub assembly. Since this occurred I've read reviews on GE washers from the last couple of years. The problems are consistently this portion of the tub assembly, no matter what the model. All we got was an extra set of fins. We will never buy GE again!

Purchased the GE front load washer model WCVH6800J1WW from a local family owned appliance company 7 years ago. It began leaking water out of the bottom about 2 years ago. Tried all the suggestions in the Manual in the trouble shooting section. No luck. Now began shaking violently and making an extremely loud noise during the wash cycle. When I opened the door at the end, everything smelled of burned rubber and there was smoke in the air. After I took everything out I tried rotating the drum with my hand. It is obviously warped and completely ruined. After the fact I've found numerous similar reports. I agree with all of the others who state they will never buy GE again!!!

I purchased the GE front load Model gfhwh1400d0ww in August 2013. Today it was diagnosed with a bad drum seal, which was causing leaking. The repair will be $575. Why in the world does GE not warranty seals longer than 12 months is beyond me. I use the washing machine about 4 cycles a week, I use the HE soap. A part that cannot be damaged by user error should be covered longer. I would not recommend GE products. If you do purchase, make sure to buy the extended warranty. My previous washer dryer set was Kenmore and it lasted 15 years, still working when I decided to upgrade. What a mistake.

I saw all the posts for this washer not draining clothes and having the clothes wet. GE service came out today - my washer is 1 month old today! My clothes sometimes drained fine and other times were wet. The problem is that my machine is in the basement and my drain is elevated about 5 or 6 ft above the washer. This requires the extension drain which the store provided. However their drain is too narrow and is not a GE part. Service ordered me the drain that came with it plus the extension kit. Also I was told that the washer needs to be set for a high drain hook up and it wasn't. So glad it was an easy fix. I love this washer. PS he told me not to use auto sense because we have a well and you need 80 psi of pressure and we only have 50 so the washer won't fill on big loads. Hope this helps.

Purchased this machine from Lowes and within months of having it, it stopped spinning. Our clothes would come out soaking wet. It would also reset itself so a 30-40 minute cycle would last 60-90 minutes if not longer. Called to have it fixed and someone came out and ordered a new part, which consequently cost more than the washer originally cost. Luckily it was still under warranty. Within a few months the same exact problem started happening again. By now the warranty had expired and we were not having it fixed again. Needless to say we will be going shopping for a new washer this week. We will NOT be purchasing a GE model. Please stay away from these washers.

But in February 2015 the washer stopped working. We called GE and were set up with a 3rd party repair company (A&E Factory Service, about whom I will be writing further reviews). After 4 visits and 2 replacement parts they informed us that the warranty was void and that we would be charged for further service. At this point we are so incensed that we want to dump the appliances on the street in front of the showroom and sue for damages, but at least if we can dissuade others from considering purchasing GE our experiences will not have been totally in vain.

After a few months my cleaning person was telling me black tar marks were staining my white sheets. Over the course of the year I had 3 service calls for the same issue. Only being resolved temporarily. After numerous phone calls with GE customer relation department they decided to replace the unit with a new one at a $800.00 cost to myself. The rep assured me this was not a common issue (actually she said she never heard of this problem), so I chalked it up to having a lemon and what were the odds of it reoccurring with a new machine?
A month and a half into the new machine, I not only have black marks from the dryer on my white sheets but now big streaks! I am being told the warranty only covers servicing not replacement. A technician needs to deem the unit unfixable! I have spent hundreds of dollars replacing multiple king and twin bed sheets not to mention the cost of a lousy product. Adora washer model GHWN5250DOWS - Absolute garbage from the get go. First (first as in from the day it was delivered) it leaked water inside the drum constantly so unless you immediately removed the clothes after the wash cycle, they would be too wet to be handled by the dryer (they came in a set and the dryer is nearly as bad, made loud squealing noises which required service). In the course of a week the washer will be half full of water, maybe or maybe not. The service tech came out and repaired; kinda sorta, now it sometimes leaks and sometimes doesn’t, you never know.
Now after two years (and out of warranty) it appears to have broken a motor mount as the drum does not sit right in the machine and bangs against the side of the housing and is not usable. GE kindly offered to pay for the parts if we pay for the labor which will run us somewhere in the neighborhood of $200. Not paying another $200 to fix a 2 year old washing machine that cost over $600 to begin with. Overall this is the worst buy of any type I have ever made and will never ever buy another GE appliance (or anything else GE for that matter). Complete crap from day one.

If not the machine will continue to run using your electricity never able to correct the balance until the cycle runs out of time, now you have to manually pull and re-adjust the ball of clothing and use more electricity to now put the cycle on rinse & drain but if you don't manually add extra water to the rinse cycle, it could continue to pull & tear up your clothes and go off balance.

GE Hotpoint Washer Model: HSWP1000M2WW S/N ZZ182666H - We bought this machine for my father. He passed away so I took since the Sears Kenmore was almost 13 years old. What a mistake that was. Almost every load gets off balanced. We race to stop it. I broke my damn toe on one occasion while racing to to stop it from banging around. It has a large load capacity but will only fill below half full so I wash more times with it. New issue, it will fill and wash but won't spin. It will only fill 2-3 inches of water in the Rinse cycle while trying to wash the clothes. What's up with that?
I called GE and they sent me over to a guy named Cory in the GECHS Consumer relations Dept. 1-800-386-1215 - Extn. **. He looked up the machine and told me it was 2 years old and there was no warranty left on it. He told me he would help me by sending me parts so I cold install them myself or I could have their Tech out who wold charge $99.00 to show up and look at it and then more money for any labor and he would grant me 25% off of that. I told him at that price I could be close to a newer machine like another Kenmore.
I didn't abuse this thing. The Sears Kenmore was still working when I pulled it out and the only part it ever needed was a small plastic clip which made it spin. I replaced that part myself. Anyway, I tried the Timer first because it seem like an easy part to try first. Got the part, installed and the problems are still there? Why?? Is there some other type of circuit board in there somewhere? I pulled a copy of the Owners manual from their web site and it mentioned fuses and relays but didn't say or show where they were. It also didn't mentioned anything about issues like this in the trouble shoot part of the PDF.
I don't want to try and fix it anymore and I don't want to be out of pocket any money for a tech to come out for a machine that doesn't seem like it was designed very well. I will call someone to haul it off and just be out of pocket for the cost of the machine. I have a feeling, if I fix it it will probably break again. I bought a GE washer/dryer combo about two years ago. After a year the transmission went and it sounded like a helicopter landing in our house every time the washer was in spin cycle. They sent out a technician who took the whole thing apart, said it was the transmission, and said they had to order the part but didn't put it back together. They didn't come out again till weeks later when the transmission finally came in. After arguing multiple times, they finally replaced the machine with a new one.
Five months after receiving the "new" machine, the washer stopped agitating. The same technician came and said it was the transmission AGAIN on the new machine. Plus he said it was all rusty inside. Curious for a new machine... When the transmission came in finally, even the technician said it didn't look like a new transmission that was delivered. As soon as he left the house, it would not agitate. I called the company again who said he wouldn't be back for a few days, so after an hour of arguing with them again, they finally sent someone from another company. He came out and said not only was it the transmission, but the motor was failing and it was all rusted inside, the water was probably spilling over onto the motor and rusting the machine.
I called GE again and they told me they would send someone now to put a new motor in a FIVE-month-old washing machine. After many hours of arguing with multiple people, they finally agreed to give me a third washer/dryer combo in two years, which would take two weeks to arrive. I received the third "new" washer on a Thursday. As soon as the deliveryman left, I washed a load of clothes, put them in the dryer, and the button on the dryer did not work. Called them again, argued again, and the technician came out again saying he didn't even know what the problem was because they didn't inform him before he came to our house. He himself couldn't believe a one-day-old product was faulty! He assumed it was the relay switch and had to order that part again. More calls, more frustrating arguments, until the relay switch was delivered to my house.
A few days later (yesterday) on Tuesday 1/26 GE called later in the day and said someone would be there to fix the switch tomorrow between 8am and 5pm. I took yet another day off of work, making a total of 5 days in the past month, and waiting around my house until 3:30pm, when I decided to call them to see what time the technician would arrive. I was then told that the technician cancelled and would not be making it, yet they didn't bother to call and let me know.
At that point, I was beyond frustrated and began yelling at everyone when I was told there was absolutely no openings until February 5, yet another week away. More yelling ensued and I was told they could get someone out here Friday, January 30 between 1pm- 5pm, when I will yet again have to take more time off of work to have my "new" appliance fixed yet again. This company takes no responsibility for their products, services, or technicians. I recommend staying away from GE appliances.

Since my husband and I bought our GE appliances (fridge, stove, over the range micro, washer, dryer), we have had nothing but problems with them. The washer in particular is the biggest pain in my behind. To start with, the washer has always leaked via the rubber seal on the front door. It was so small however, I never noticed since it would catch the drips at a seam and it wouldn't never end up on the floor. I only noticed when the seam started to rust!
Second, the washer gets stuck on the wash cycle about 25-50% of the time; meaning the timer will count down until about the 18 minute mark, and then jump back up to 22 minutes. It will repeat this over, and over and over again for HOURS. I once made the mistake of putting the washer on at 9 pm... it was still washing at 6 am when I woke up.
It also randomly doesn't dispense the fabric softener and seems to skip the rinse cycle entirely, as it has just now done. Also I often have to add on the drain and rinse function as I will open the washer after a cycle and everything will still be dripping wet! Why did I pay an inflated price for a brand new, supposedly excellent washer, if I now have to keep paying for service calls for them to tell me it's working fine? I will never, ever buy a GE product again.

We purchased a GE washer (GTWN2800DWW) from Home Depot on Saturday, December 14 because our old one broke. Home Depot doesn't actually stock the appliances, so a GE-representative company delivered the new washer Friday, December 20. They refused to remove our old one due to "corroded lines" and so could not install the new one. They also didn't stock 8-foot hoses (which even the delivery guys said is ridiculous, as most houses need them). When my boyfriend hooked up the machine himself later, he found that it was broken. All the knobs were stripped and the machine wouldn't even turn on.
After being transferred to various departments at GE, he was told that we'd have to wait for someone to come out and verify the machine was in fact broken. This person did not come to the house until Monday, December 29. It took this person seconds to verify that yes, it was definitely broken. We had to then wait for this guy's report to get filed, and then for someone to deliver us a new one. GE was supposed to call us and schedule a pickup and delivery and never did. My boyfriend had to call repeatedly, was constantly put on hold and transferred.
When he finally found someone who could locate the report, they told him we'd have to wait for someone else to call us to schedule the delivery. My boyfriend argued with her and asked why she couldn't just do it, and after being placed on hold for 15 minutes, she said she could schedule it. We did not get the second one delivered until January 9. This machine seemed to work okay the first few times we used it, although it seemed to spin WAY too fast and the clothes would all be tangled and stuck around the agitator when done. Then, I attempted to wash our bath rugs. It was like the machine was possessed. I've seen a washer become unbalanced before, but this was so beyond that! It moved so far across the laundry room that it detached a hose and the ground wire.
My boyfriend rebalanced the machine, and I proceeded to then wash a quilt-- a quilt I had washed many many times in our 20+ year old machine. The same thing happened again. After all the hassle we had already been through, my boyfriend called GE and demanded that they come pick up the machine and that we get a refund. The same thing happened as had happened every time before--he was transferred and put on hold so many times, that he eventually gave up. He instead called Home Depot, and they helped us out immediately. We were able to get a refund and order a new washing machine-- A MAYTAG, because I never want anything to do with GE again. I'm only 26, and I will never purchase a GE product ever again-- even if their other appliances were great, their customer service was so horrible and unorganized.
Before we even received the second machine, on January 7 I wrote an email to GE's customer service telling them about our experience, and how their third-party companies should probably be organized better, etc. It was not an unkind email. However, it was never even acknowledged. (You know how normally you at least get a confirmation email, like "Thank you for your email. We will contact you shortly..."? I received no response whatsoever. Thanks to GE and their lovely customer service, we've been without a washing machine for over a month now.

I was told we had service scheduled the following Monday for the replacement part to be installed, repair guy didn't show up so I called GE and said repair guy accidentally marked my case resolved and the appointment got cancelled.
Over the course of the next 2 weeks, I was scheduled 6 times and the tech never showed. 6 days off work, 6 days calling GE to hear they have no idea why. Well somewhere in the mix, I got a survey call on the tech's performance, I rated him pretty badly because my washer was still broken. Now it turns out the tech says he refuses to return to my home because my washer is in the bathroom, my house is dirty, and he doesn't feel it's a healthy work environment with the toilet and bathtub right there. GE says they can't force him to come if he doesn't feel "safe."
SERIOUSLY!! Don't buy a GE unless you have a separate laundry room and a maid service to clean for you because my house is far from dirty. The tech is retaliating for the bad review I gave him. Didn't offer anything to replace the ceiling tiles of my basement, which were ruined by the water leak and flooding. The agitation and louse noise never stopped but got worse. It became so bad that the speakers on the family room wall behind my laundry room were shaking due to the vibrations. I kept calling but GE customer service didn't do anything besides keep sending totally worthless service guys, who could not do anything. They would not wait till we run an entire cycle to see the problem. They would check the balance by touching the washer and leave. Finally I started complaining openly on their facebook page. After almost three months of aggravation, they decided to replace my units. Guess what, the new units were slightly better in the beginning but same problems started after about 3-4 months. The spinning cycle sounds like an airplane landing in the house. The clothes are coming out with patches of lint. And the lint trap in dryer traps lint all around except for the wire mesh, which is where the lint should be. We purchased a GE Profile washing machine Model PTWN8050M0WW 3 years ago and it is already needing to be replaced. The tub stopped agitating, and when it did engage to spin it made a terrible noise, so we called a repairman. He inspected the machine and found that the gears (which are plastic) have already worn out. The cost of the transmission repair kit to replace the worn parts was over $400 and the labor was $250. He further stated that the last time he attempted a similar repair on this type of machine he ended up having to replace the tub as well which cost an additional $200. We naturally elected to replace the machine. That is not much of a life of service for a washing machine that only receives light use for two retired adults.

GE - GTWN4250DWS. If you like soaking wet clothes at the end of your wash cycle, you'll love this washing machine. It has taken me as many as 4 wash cycles to get the water out of some of my clothing. I am only able to do loads half the size that I use to do with my 25 year old Maytag and it has nothing to do with the size of the tub. I followed all installation instructions so that these issues could be avoided. This machine has been a huge disappointment. Who knew doing laundry could be so frustrating. If you have an older washing machine I would recommend you hold on to it until it can no longer be repaired, no matter the cost.

GE Hydrowave washer - From the day I purchased this machine it has never worked correctly. It will start filling, then stop. Push the start button, and it empties. Now you start over, and add detergent again, because it drained out. It does this 25% of the time you use it. Other times you just can't get it to keep filling. And heaven forbid you open the lid once it has started. It will automatically drain. And, it is impossible to talk to a real person at GE. I don't want to spend hours emailing a machine. I want a few minutes with a real person. GE is no longer the company it once was. They have absolutely no interest in assisting the consumer.

I purchased a GE washing machine in February 2014. I am now on the 3rd repair call for the same issue. Washer gets off balance and during spin cycle it agitates so hard the walls are shaking. Repair person is able to "re-set" my washer but here we are a month later and it's doing it again. GE warranty only covers parts and repairs, not replacement (unless a repair person deems it non-repairable). Obviously the machine is faulty but they keep "putting a band aid" on the problem. In turn I have to take off work to have the repair person come out.
Bottom line, I am stuck with a faulty washer and am in a catch all with the warranty. I will not buy another GE washer nor will I ever purchase a warranty beyond the basic warranty that comes with anything unless it includes a replacement without all the loopholes and jumping through hoops. It's a machine, it is possible for it to be faulty and no matter how many times you re-set it it will do it again. Wish someone could help me get a replacement without all this hassle and being treated like someone that abuses the system. Any suggestions? I have called and written GE. No luck yet.

My family and I bought a brand new washing machine (model: GHWN8350D0WS) from Home Depot on November 1, 2014. From day one it had issues. It would go into a pause, which the manual tells you is normal, and never come out of it until you pressed start. This only happened occasionally so we thought it was a fluke because sometimes it would work. However, 17 days after it was installed it went in to "pause" and then "sense" and then just quit working. We called for service repair that day and waited 6 days for someone to come. The service repairman updated the software and said it was good to go. Six days later it did the same thing. I called repair and they couldn't get out for a few more days. When they did come, they found that the whole motherboard needed to be replaced along with a hall sensor. These were not parts they normally keep in their truck so they would need to order them and come back out (keep in mind this is a brand new washing machine, installed a month prior). They scheduled me for 11 days later. The day before they were scheduled to come out they called and said they had to cancel and reschedule.
They rescheduled me for Dec. 29th. 28 days after the issue was first reported. I finally was able to speak with someone to voice my frustrations and they said I could go ahead and hire an outside service company to put the new parts in and they would reimburse me up to $250. I called an outside service company and they were here in a day. They put the GE parts in and the washing machine still wouldn't work! The tech tried calling GE to speak to an engineer and gave up after being placed on hold for 20+ minutes. I emailed my case manager and was told to call her to set up a time for service to come out again to look at the washer and take notes. I called her that day and was told it would take 24 hours for her to get back in touch with me to set up a time for service. I spoke with a manager regarding all of this and was told that GE doesn't typically replace appliances. It's why they have the service agreement. Unfortunately for consumers it means we are out of luck. They will come back to "fix" the problem as often as necessary. I called a manager at Home Depot and was told that we could still return the washing machine and get our money back. So we did. And we will never purchase another GE appliance again.

I used to love my old GE washing machine back in the 'ol days when it didn't have to be HE-compliant, it had an agitator to clean the clothes properly and we had phosphates in our laundry detergent. The washing machine I purchased 4 years ago (WPRE6150K2ST) is hideous! I never liked it from the first day. You have to fill the clothes only enough so that it gets below the water line because if you go by their instructions, you'll have laundry detergent all over the clothes and the clothes still have dirt. Furthermore, my whites have all now turned gray; they are no longer white. Because there is no agitator in the tub, my clothes NEVER come out clean. It's frustrating that I have to agitate the clothes in the water first before I let the washing machine take over. All it does is swirl the clothes around that my sheets get all tangled up and I have lint everywhere. I literally want to throw the washing machine out the window.

There is dark residue on fleece blankets and our white towels are now gray. Why? There is not enough water generated to wash out the soap. And clothes don't smell clean. I end up going to the laundromat to wash larger items to get them clean. Now that the warranty is over, I am ready to start dumping an extra bucket of hot water into my washer to help it wash my clothes. Anyone tried this and not wrecked the machine? The clothes do smell clean which is a plus, but they don't look clean. There is soapy residue spread around on many items of clothes. The amount of liquid HE detergent used is 2 tablespoons as noted on the bottle. I have tried doing smaller loads of wash, below what the directions on the machine paperwork calls for. There is no difference on the clothes. I always use the super water level to get as much water as possible to clean the clothes. I am now starting to use an option on the machine which adds a 2nd rinse and spin. The results are 70% better. The time to get a load of wash complete with this extra setting is 1 3/4 hours. This is too much time and more electricity, plus more water which is what is needed in the first place. This washer fails in getting clothes washed and rinsed successfully.

Purchased this product brand new from Lowes. Within a month the washer started making a lot of noise like it was off balance. We called Lowes who put us in touch with GE. We were told to tilt the product back because sometimes water builds up and caused it to become unbalanced. Okay??? I thought this was extreme odd but accepted what they said and tried this. This did not work. I called GE again and scheduled an appointment for the tech to come out. He found that indeed the washer was unbalanced and working improperly. He ordered a part and told us GE would be in touch. GE never called. I called GE and made an appointment which was a week away. Now I am weeks without my machine. I have four children and a spouse to do laundry for. I have to go to the laundromat daily.
Finally it is the day of installation and I receive an email not a phone call but an email that the tech is sick and my appointment has been rescheduled out another 7 days. I called the number on the email to request an earlier appointment date and was told that was the only date available. I asked for a supervisor who told me that there is only one tech for my area. Wow!! I thought it was just me but everything said about this machine is true. I wash all loads on hot water, extra rinse & highest water level. It takes forever to do a load of laundry. Clothes are very twisted & left with lots of lint. So much that the water line became plugged and we had to have a plumber out to remove the clog from the drain pipe. We are considering putting drain in the pipe occasionally.
Whoever designed this machine should go back to school to learn how a washer machine should work. All these energy efficiency appliances that supposedly use less water & electricity are a joke. We have a dishwasher that is about the same situation. If you can find any appliance that is not energy efficient buy it. Clothes need agitation & adequate water to get clean - both features that are lacking from this machine.

We purchased a GE washer and dryer from Home Depot on November 19, 2012. The washer is model #GTWP2250DWW and the Dryer is model # GTDP180EDWW. The washing machine has never cleaned the clothes and has never filled with water to a level sufficient to even wet all of the clothes put into it. After numerous calls to Home Depot shortly after purchasing the machine, they referred us to GE who in turn dispatched a technician. The technician did not put any clothes into the machine or run it through a full cycle. He simply ran it through a fill cycle, proclaimed the machine was functioning properly and reviewed with us the instructions for operating the machine which we had already been through many times on the phone with Home Depot and which we had been following to the letter.
The purpose of a washing machine is to clean clothes and this machine does not even come close to accomplishing that task. The machine has never once filled with enough water to wet the clothes regardless of water level setting or size of the load. I regret purchasing GE appliances and do not feel GE has been honest about the failure of their equipment to clean clothes. To compound the dissatisfaction, the dryer quit working when it was less than a year and a half old. I would not recommend purchasing any GE washer and dryer products and am currently waiting on a response from Home Depot and GE to get some satisfaction in resolving the problem. If they do not step up and own this problem, I am considering legal action to hold Home Depot and GE accountable for selling this junk. When a problem is this obvious, well documented and widespread, the manufacturer needs to be held accountable. It's nothing less than consumer fraud.

GE washer/dryer model GTUP270EMWW - I purchased this GE washer/dryer combination a couple of months ago. A few weeks ago the washer began to make loud noises when washing clothes. About two weeks ago, it was really banging and shaking. I looked inside and my clothes were wrapped so tightly around the agitator I could barely untangle them. I took some of the articles out and turned the washer on again. In a short time I heard the same loud banging noises. Looked inside and the clothes were tightly wound around the agitator again. I took out more clothes, and tried once again. Same thing happened with very few clothes in the washer.
So I called Lowe's. They tried calling GE to set up an appointment for me to have a tech come out. The Lowe's rep said that GE evidently didn't have any techs in my area, and he would make some inquiries of GE and I should call him back in a few days to check. In the meantime, I called the GE 800 number. Again, an electronic voice: "press number 1, etc." Then it asked me to say the type of appliance that needed service. I said "washer." The voice then said a repairman would be at my house the next week to fix my "stove hood."
I hung up, and called again. Went through the same procedure, this time I said "electric washer." The voice told me a repairman would be coming to fix my dishwasher. I hung up and tried a third time, this time I said "electric clothes washer." I don't remember what they said they would fix that time, because I was furious. I hung up and tried another GE 800 number. I finally got a human voice. Told the woman why I was calling. She informed me that I was probably not loading the clothes in the washer properly. I told her I have been using an electric clothes washer through 60 years of marriage and I am pretty sure I know how to load a washer. She then said if the problem was of my making I would be charged for the visit and any repairs. She then stated again that the repairman would give me lessons on how to properly load a washer. I was really seeing red by that time, and hung up on her.
A couple of days later, I received a phone call from GE at 9 in the evening. An electronic voice told me that a tech would be at my house the next day. The voice spoke so fast that I couldn't catch the phone number he gave to call back if I needed to cancel. We had an appointment with a lawyer to get our wills updated, so I canceled the lawyer appointment and I stayed home all day so I wouldn't miss the GE tech. The problem was something had come loose under the tub that was causing the problem. The tech snapped it back in place and said he also put a wire or something in it to keep it from happening again.
I have really been afraid to use it since, and keep listening for unexpected noises. It is a stackable all-in-one combination machine, and today I washed a load of clothes and put them in the dryer. When the dryer stopped I opened it, and lo and behold, all the clothes were so tightly wound around each other I had a hard time getting them apart. There isn't an agitator in a clothes dryer, and I had it on the delicate cycle. This machine is a piece of junk, and I paid too much for it to throw away. But I am afraid to use the bloomin' thing at all now. I join my voice with some of these other reviews. I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to buy a GE appliance. Their appliances are not worth it, and their customer service is terrible!

We shopped around and bought this to replace a 14 year old washer that started having issues. Now we have more issues. First thing we noticed is this washer will not rinse clothes clean unless you always use the Power Rinse Option. This machine is constantly off balance, nearly every load (whatever the size) makes it thump and jump and rattle around. In the last 3 days it has been off balance so badly that it has displaced the entire tub inside the washer so it rubs the inside of the case. The plastic lid that caps the inner and outer tub is broken in two places where it has contacted the frame of this washer. I have taken the front off both times and there are two little ears that sit down between 2 sheet metal bars, apparently there to keep the drum from moving too far to the right or left (and also to hold the shipping rod in place). The off balance situation caused one of the ears to bend and the entire unit (Drum is suspended by rods from the upper frame of the unit, which is thin sheet metal that has bent from the off balance conditions) had shifted over about 3 inches at the bottom, causing the belt to rub on a hose in the bottom of the washer.
Look at other reviews, here and elsewhere, you will see the same balance problems again and again. I don't know if there is a counterweight on this model of washer. If there is it does not do the job it should. We have only had this washer 16 months, we were expecting to get 10-15 years out of it. We can hardly leave the room when this machine is running for fear that the washer will move enough to pull off a hose or smash a cabinet.

We purchased a brand new GE energy star washer and dryer from Lowe's when we bought our new home in 2010. We decided to get a quality machine in anticipation that it would last us 15 or so years. After 2 1/2 years, we had multiple issues (spin cycle did not work leaving all water in machine and clothes soaked, not washed properly) and had to have the motor replaced. This cost us only $80 for the service call. An 'additional part' was ordered and we were supposed to have a follow up, but no parts ever arrived and no one ever followed up. After the repairs, the machine worked well for awhile but we began having the same issues a few months ago.
A repairman came out (and I will credit GE for honoring our request to NOT pay additional service call fees) and after some confusion; he said the motor was fine, but the wires weren't connecting. He didn't have the part to fix it but was able to make 'rig it' to work as a temporary solution. He stated that he would need to order a wiring harness to fix the issue. No parts came, no follow up. So we called again; another repairman came out, he knew his stuff and quickly identified the issue and asked about the last repairman's 'fix'. He indicated that he could tell the prior repairman did some things that wouldn't fix the problem and were done incorrectly. He said to give him a week to order the new wiring harness (the same part that hasn't been ordered by the last 2 repairmen) and he would come back and install.
A new motor arrived at our home with a bag of wires a few days later and the next week, another repairman came out and informed us that we need a new wiring harness. We know this, we have had multiple repairmen come out and tell us this, while we continually have no washing machine and are assuming that the right parts are coming. However, he said the prior guy ordered the wrong thing, the pictures they upload for ordering can be confusing, and other excuses. He was polite, but said we had to wait yet another week so that he could try to find/order the part (wiring harness).
After a few angry calls by my husband we were finally informed that the part doesn't exist, the machine can't be fixed and we should buy a new one. We were offered $500 off some washer that would only cost us $600! What? I can buy a new one for $600 with NO discount. Highly upset that we have been strung along for so long, no washer, and no options but to buy a new one.

Even so, when the clothes came out, they don't smell fresh. It seems now those products are no longer working. I phoned GE today to ask what to do about this problem and my nice case manager said it couldn't be their machine and it had to do with the water flow into and out of the machine. I explained to her that our plumbing was just changed to copper piping a couple of months ago. She said it had more to do with the source of the water.
I then explained to her that my previous washer was 10 years old and had the same water source and I never had these problems. She said she had no idea what the problem was and that I could have a technician come out for $99 and he could tell me the same thing. In other words...TOO BAD FOR ME!!! I am appalled and disappointed that a company who has rightfully had such a great reputation for quality products can act like this is an acceptable practice, when we all have un-explainable rashes and allergies to our clothes. I wonder if they will think they have a problem then?

A GE top loading washer that was 16 months old, stopped spinning then stopped agitating, rinsing and spinning. This machine had extremely low usage - average 2 loads per week. A local technician came out and the motor had blown. GE Consumer Affairs began sympathetic stating that should not have happened so soon.
After numerous phone calls, emails and one letter, I gave up. GE's best offer was to sell me a new motor at cost, I did this and they sent the wrong motor! The advocate I was working with, implied I was wrong about the motor even though I had my original technician there to install. I was informed that to get the correct motor, I had to pay for a GE certified technician service call and then GE would discount the cost of installation (160.00) by 25%. This was after I paid for the first technician service call. It would have cost me 250.00 to fix a machine I paid 350.00 for.
I bought a new Maytag. CONSUMERS BEWARE - GE CONSUMER AFFAIRS DOES NOT HELP OR RESOLVE ISSUES. My Consumer advocate (Andrea) ended up being rude and dismissive. DO NOT BUY GE APPLIANCES!!!!!!!

Purchased this machine and the base. Always thought something was wrong with it because of the out of balance issues we had with it. The machine wouldn't spin out the water, the water ran into the bases, ruining several shoes that we stored. The noise got louder and louder, and within the week: smoke, and the smell of burning. We pulled out the warranty paperwork since we had an extended warranty and called the company only to discover the company dated our warranty to when it was purchased probably by the store and not by us as the customer, therefore, no warranty. Called a repairman who said to scrap it. What an expensive lesson to learn. GE just found themselves rated with Frigidaire.
Never will I purchase GE products again. Your stuff is just expensive crap! Thanks for not standing behind it and ruining the reputation of a good company name. GE should consider a recall, seems like a common complaint.

I bought this from Lowes. Two years later, after some of the loudest wash and spin cycles in my life. So loud that I had to turn on subtitles while watching videos two rooms away with a closed door. Plus the main tub seal failed exactly two years and ten days after installed by Lowes. After some effort to find someone to service it, the local GE repair person said to not bother, they are hard to work on, unreliable, and the same parts typically fail time and again in shorter and shorter times. He offered to work on it but he advised me to set in on the curb and buy another machine. It's two years old, started out as loud and annoying and is now about to end up on the curb with the rest of my household trash. Very frustrating.

Purchased a brand new GE153 washer and dryer hydro wave. Also would like to add after my experience, couldn't find not one good review. Not one. GE needs to take this washer off the market. Anyway, used the washer for the very first time and it was extremely loud, banging around, sounds of metal scraping or grinding. You could hear this throughout the entire house. I had no idea what was going on. Long story short, upon reviewing, this washer is unacceptable and falsely advertised. Really thinking about suing. My God, it's brand new.

I have had continuous problems with the GE Profile top load washer that I have had for 3 years. I even bought an extended warranty. This was to no avail. This washer has ruined several black and white pieces and I am at my wit's end. Please advise what I can do other than suing the company for compensation for clothes and the machine.

We purchased a front loading washer & Dryer 5 years ago. I always thought something was wrong with the washer. We purchased the extended warranty. I had the repairman come out right before the warranty expired and he said "I was loading it wrong". The water leaking into my pedestal was a non-issue according to him, the shaking was a non-issue according to him. It was all because I was not loading it full enough and accurately enough. Well, 3 months after the warranty expired, it started rattling, loud noise on spin cycle, burning smell and smoke coming from it.
My husband took it apart and the fingers that hold the drum on are gone. The cast metal you used to make this crappy part is deteriorated, it is all gone. So the water leaking in my pedestal makes sense, the rattling makes sense. The loud noise makes sense. I believe the repairman knew ALL of this and did not want to repair it for the cost of it. He knew the warranty was almost up.
The below picture shows the defective part. I believe this machine had a terrible design flaw on this part. Who would make this out of cast metal? It should be steel. GE should recall all of these washers. A washing machine should last more than 5 years. Especially at the price we paid for it. I will NEVER buy another GE product again. It is a shame that you took a good household name and ruined it.

NEVER, EVER consider buying this washer. It NEVER uses enough water to clean your clothes. It NEVER agitates enough so that the clothes cycle from top to bottom. It NEVER fills the washer with water for the rinse cycle unless you select "second rinse. " It only "spritzes" the clothes with a few drops of water for the rinse. Worst of all, the water temperature selection is a FRAUD ON THE CONSUMER! If you select "Hot," the hot water will indeed enter the machine for a few moments - THEN cold water comes on to finish filling the machine.
You can NEVER get a hot wash unless you trick the machine by turning off the cold water at the wall connection, and then only a little hot water comes in for a short time and the machine stops filling. Then you must open the washer lid for the hot to come back on and fill the machine. Of course, then you must remember to close the lid for the machine cycle to commence. You also have to remember to turn the cold water back on before the "rinse" cycle. Please DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE and perhaps we can force some manufacturer accountability for misleading the consumer. This machine is an abomination!

GE Hydrowave - The worst washer I have ever owned. Clothes come out with some type of dirt residue, and one spin does not sufficiently spin the water out of the clothes. And you can forget about the sheets/towel cycle, it never completely spins out water. I was shown, by a GE tech, a small plastic box on side of tub that fills up with soap scum and dirt. This is released back into the wash. He told me to use a product called Affresh to dissolve it. Well that didn't work neither did a host of other products including degreaser, vinegar, bleach, etc. My machine is less than a year old and I have had 2 service calls already without satisfaction.

We purchased our GE front loader and dryer 7 years ago. Last July, the gasket shredded and we had to pay $150 for a new one, including labor. Yesterday, I went to put a wash in and during the spin cycle, it started making a loud banging noise along with smoke and the smell of rubber. I had a friend of mine who used to work for GE take a look and said that it looked like the drum and some other part needed to be replaced and that one part would be about $300 and another about $400. I called GE and they would not help me at all.. but said they could schedule someone to look at it for $99. I said "forget it". We ended up buying a new LG top loading washer.. It will be here on Saturday. I will never buy a GE Front loader again.

We purchased this unit (GTWN4250DWS) from Lowe's 3/16/12. Within 6 months, the motor burned out. Service was done under warranty and resolved. Thereafter, intermittent problems with electronics hindering the unit's operation. Finally, 5/6/14, unit fails to start as if no power related to electronics. Given my experience and the poor reviews written on this unit, I'm surprised GE has not make a recall. I'm very disillusioned with GE product and performance. Chances are high I will never purchase a product from them.

In 2007 when I built my new home, I purchased a GE Profile Washer and Dryer, believing that they were reliable appliances. I had left behind in NJ a 17-year old Maytag machine that still worked like new. After only a short time I began having problems with the washer; it would "time out" during the rinse cycle. I had a repairman come more than once; unless I could recreate the problem it could not be fixed. This has been an ongoing problem that has now become worse. I will never purchase another GE product.

My GE washing machine is 7 years old. It made a loud noise and smoke was coming from the drum. I called a repair person and he said the bearing went bad and I would need a Rear and Front Tub and Basket. Parts were going to be almost $900 and labor between $200 and $250. So I called GE on 4/28 and explained that is unacceptable for a product only 7 years old. They told me they would sell me the parts for $235 and give me a credit of $100 towards the labor or give me a discount on a new washer.
So I emailed her on 4/29 and said that I would prefer to buy the parts. I got no response. I sent 2 more emails and then called twice. Finally I called the main number and they said that they could order the parts, but if I want them expedited, I would have to pay the shipping. I said that if I would have gotten a response to my email in a timely manner, the parts would not need to be expedited. I will NEVER buy another GE product.

We purchased a General Electric He Washer Model GTWN4250M1WS in July 2011. In early April 2014, the washer began leaking from the bottom. A local repairman spent about 45 minutes evaluating the problem. He enumerated several items that need repair, most of all specifying a transmission problem. Also, he said the the cost of repair would be worth more than the machine itself. I contacted GE with the details. A customer service rep responded, offering a discount on a new washer or assistance with the cost of repair. Our contention, however, is that a washer used by a family of three should not fail in less than three years. GE will not replace the washer or repair it free-of-charge. My wife and I do not want to pay to have the washer repaired, especially after noting the high frequency of repair ratings for GE washers - both top and front loading - by a well-known consumer magazine. We will continue to press GE for full repair or replacement. Needless to say, we will not purchase a GE product in the future.

Prior to my present washing machine I have owned six top-loaders and one front-loader over a span of 49 years. Only the Westinghouse front loader was a problem a leaking door seal. The rest of the machines Maytag, Hotpoint, Kitchen Aid, Kenmore and Whirlpool all were passed on to needy families for extended lives when replacement washers were purchased. None ever went kaput.
However, my current machine, a GE HydraWave, which is now in its second year, has turned out to be a frustrating disillusionment. Since installation it has failed to adequately clean clothes the way all previous washing machines had. It is embarrassing to wear tee shirts in public because they now are a dingy gray. A variety of detergents have been tried, but none seems to make a difference. I thought this to be a consequence of the washers low water volume, but even tricking the washer into adding more water does not seem to help. There never seems to be enough water. Separate bleach soaking is now required, something never necessary with earlier washing machines.
Anything with straps bras, nighties, etc. gets snagged by the agitators fins. Thin materials get wedged beneath the fins and must be very gently removed, being careful not to tear the fabric or distress the fins because they have to be bent up to free up the entangled clothes. During the wash cycle the clothes do not seem to undulate - what is on the top at the beginning of the wash cycle remains there, never getting tumbled below into the wash water. Anything sizable - i.e. sheets, blankets - get knotted up, as do trouser legs and shirtsleeves. Snarled might be a better term. Towels get frayed.
Too often the load goes out of balance at the start of spin cycles the result is thunderous booming akin to a band of bass drums all being beaten simultaneously. The din is very alarming! One dares not go outdoors while the washing machine is running; it should not be necessary to have to baby sit a washing machine. The plastic agitator needs a design overhaul.
Three of the four fins broke off, not the result of any mistreatment on our part, but occurred during routine wash/rinse/spin cycles. The fourth fin is hanging by threads. Now the agitator needs replacement. While GEs HydraWave conserves water, saves energy, and is frugal with detergent, it fails to clean clothes. A washing machine is supposed to get clothes clean! To say the least, GEs HydraWave has been an agitating experience - the only thing being agitated here are the users of this washing machine.

The washer (top loading hydrowave washer - energy star) stopped agitating and spinning, 2 months and 4 days after warranty went out. I didn't bother trying to force them to repair my washer. If they can't build a washer that lasts longer than 1 year, I surely don't trust their repair technicians. I will start making the repairs myself, unfortunately. It really angers me that an American company, with a CEO who is put on an important advisory board for the White House (Jobs Council), is in charge and influencing decisions. His job policy, build shoddy products so people will have to buy more of them - great for the economy, creates jobs because people have to replace them more often. Not really a forward thinker in the realm of environment and economy, long term. He should be spending his time standing behind the integrity of his products. Oh and by the way, he's venturing into aviation. If he puts as much integrity in his aviation sector as he does in his appliance sector, take a train!

This is the WORST washing machine ever made! DO NOT BUY this machine. There are serious design flaws that GE will not address. To begin with, there is a space at the bottom of the agitator that catches bra straps, hoodie straps, panties and then tangles the garments with anything long sleeved so that pulling the clothes out is like untangling a ball of yarn. There is not enough water to clean the clothes and the agitator is PLASTIC so there is a soap residue which must be manually washed off. It is unreasonable for a consumer to be expected to wash an agitator in a washing machine!! GE customer service claims that since the washer is operating as designed, there is nothing they can do. When pushed, they will offer 50% discount on another one of their inferior products. These are serious design flaws that cannot possibly be known to the consumer until after purchasing and using the washer. I was a loyal GE customer for 35 years - not anymore. I am totally disgusted with GE.
