RE:Model # PTWN6050MOWT, Serial # TT194436G. My attempt to navigate to this page was meant only to agree with what another customer. However, since I have to give my own review, suffice it to say that my husband, a Consumer Report guy, thought this washer would be a good one. I was enthused with the High Efficiency idea and all the washers bells and whistles.

However, we did not get an extended warranty, (Consumer Reports does not recommend these). So no repair person has come to try to correct its issues. But why should there be any it's a GE Profile! Unfortunately, I must say - Yes to lint, gray or black all over light colored laundry. White or gray lint on dark laundry. Yes to suds always remaining even with 1/2 a teaspoon of HE detergent used. Yes to soggy laundry if 5 or more, non weighty, items are washed at the same time, regardless of the 'heavy duty' setting.

One must spin them out at least 2 times. Forget doing ' a load of towels'! My husband refers to the streaks as black residue from the agitator. This is what I think is compressed lint. The forum here seems to concur. These issues began as soon as we got the washer 3 years ago. At first, I thought it was a result of liquid fabric softener clogging the dispenser and become moldy, but that was not it. I have tried the 'clean your washer' products with no success.

The washer has ruined items, and/or caused items to need rewashing as individual pieces on the delicate or hand wash cycles. I have looked for a discussion of why all these problems are happening but have not found an answer. This was an expensive item that I thought would be wonderful and last. Ultimately, I hate it but cannot afford to replace it. But I can suggest that people not buy one.

Purchased new in October 2012 GTWN3000M2WS. Washer have had trouble since day one. Called, they won't fix it. It needs a new motor after 1 year and 2 weeks. When repairman took back off, found many used old parts inside so either it was sold as new or GE employees aren't caring about job. So, so upset I have been 6 mo without a washer because I can't put more money into fixing this one. This washer is junk, junk, junk! Will not spin our or agitate. Just sits and hums grrrrrr! My old washer was 27 years old. I raised 6 kids with them. Now it's just my husband and myself doing a couple loads a week and it falls apart. What happen to quality workmanship? GE, I'll never ever recommend or buy your products again! Customer service and quality is a thing your company past!!!

Thank goodness I got a 2 year extended warranty when purchasing the GE Profile Washer and Dryer in April 2012! In less than 2 years, a flimsy plastic knob and a timer have been replaced on the dryer. Initially, the washer snagged and destroyed some clothes and sheets. Service came and did something and told me not to cover the short center paddle. That means you have to wash smaller loads. The wash cycles are very long (an hour or more).

In the past, I needed heavy duty washer & dryer so did not expect them to last. I purchased refurbished sets from used appliance stores at that time. They worked better and longer than this new GE Profile set that only washes clothes and sheets for a retired couple! To think I was excited to finally have a NEW set! If I cannot get another extended warranty on these GE machines, I'll get rid of them and buy a different used set.

I purchased my GE Washer Serial # GTWN4250DOWS ON 9/12/12 and have problems with it since day one. The problems are: water only fills up halfway in the drum; clothes don't come clean; clothes are all tangled up with other clothes; clothes are covered with lint. Top half of drum is covered with detergent/softener because water level is too low. Loud banging noises when cycles change. Loud scraping sounds during agitation. Takes too long to wash a load of clothes, 1 hour is the average. I can only put 4 towels in to wash at a time because the water level is too low. Clothes on the top don't get wet, never mind washed.

I purchased a 4 year extended warranty. I have had service come out dozens of times and they have replaced the drum/tub, ground strap, bearing, and water sensor. I still have problems and want to get a new washer from GE. The service department is sending a tech out again Friday. I will never buy a GE Washer again. This washer is junk.

Yes we bought a GE washer from Lowe's model #GLWN2800DIWS in Oct of 2013. This washer keeps going out of balance. We all know washers get out of balance now and then, but this machine does it on a regular basis. GE's told us that you can't wash small loads in their washers. REALLY I will never buy a GE product again or buy anything from Lowe's either. They were no help in this matter either. Has anyone ever heard of such a ridiculous statement as to tell you that the fix on your washing machine is to tell you can't wash small loads. The machine states right on it small, medium, large, xlarge on. How stupid does GE think we are?

6 MO old GE Washer Model GLWN2800D1WS serial # LA111944G - This is the replacement washer the local retailer gave me to replace the 1st one when the paddle broke and tore up a load of laundry. The 1st was just a couple weeks old. This one at first was off balance repeatedly jumping around wildly on the floor so I figured it had a touch balance on spin cycle and was very careful to make loads even in the barrel (The paddle design looks bad to me as clothes can get caught by the bottom of the paddle and bunch up. I have 180 IQ and not being the average housewife I investigate things when they are dysfunctionate). But yesterday I put a load in, turned it on and left the house. Four hours later my husband came home and found the washer overflowing (rinse cycle) and both floors of our home flooded.

I will be filing a complaint with the BBB (which GE must resolve or the complaint will stand publicly) and I am writing an Official Complaint letter to the GE Board Of Directors (which must be read and put into the official record of minutes). I will also be contacting the retailer for a replacement. I just searched the web and both of the issues I had with the bouncing and overflow, to find 'numerous' online complaints for GE washers. I found a site that will investigate for class action and filed to participate since my floor pucker and dimpled and will need replacing.

We have a Hydrowave CTWN425OD1WS top loader. Don't like it. No timer, has a super load setting but only fills up half way - so I am adding water - always a fun thing to do when it is a new washer. Our Duet broke and swore would never do another side loader machine due to the washer not using enough water. I did not know they now do this with top loaders. Obviously a woman never scrutinized or tested this machine before they put it out to unsuspecting consumers. Don't buy it. Not sure what to buy. It's a shame as GE used to be a good brand. The issues are with engineering and design. It just doesn't do the job!

GE sure does have good engineers to design their parts to break just after they go out of warranty! My washer is only 1.5 years old and the transmission shaft for the agitator broke. I researched it and found this is very common... After a week of calling and dealing with the claims people and telling them what's wrong and asking what they can do for me like at least goodwill warranting the part, I've gotten nowhere. You would think a big company like GE would care about making good products and standing behind them but they are not! I will never buy another GE product again!! Regretfully I bought all top of the line (or so I thought) GE appliances at this same time when I bought my house. I was hoping to pay a little more up front and not have to worry about them being a struggling new couple, but now I'm not confident in any of them. DO NOT BUY GE APPLIANCES!

I bought the Profile series washer and dryer. I wasn't satisfied with the performance on how the washer cleaned. I had an old Maytag and that was a work horse but it didn't look pretty so I replaced it. I called GE after a few weeks using the washer that it did a poor job cleaning my clothes. The technician came and said everything was normal. I wish they just gave me a different washer. Right after the extended warranty was over, the washer kept flooding. Call GE and paid $100 to let a technician do a diagnostic. He didn't even do anything but turn it on and told me it's a transmission problem which will cost $500!!! As much as buying a new washer. GE needs to do a better job with their products. I got a 100-dollar voucher to use on another GE but I would never buy them again and anyone who wants to save money... then don't buy their stuff!

I contacted the department store I bought it and they gave me the number to GE to schedule a repair appointment. It was two weeks before I could get an appointment and then the serviceman came out and had to order parts. He stated that because of the holidays the earliest he could come back out was December 31, 2013. On December 31, 2013, I received a telephone call stating that the serviceman could not come out and I would have to reschedule. It has been downhill since then. It is now January 2, 2013, and I am still being given the runaround and my washing machine is still not repaired. I have contacted GE customer relations who states this is the highest that I can talk to and the only thing she can do is reschedule a repair date. This is crazy and I have now been without a washing machine for about 6 weeks with still no appointment. Whatever you do, do not buy this appliance!!

I am filing a complaint for the service that I have received from GE about getting my washing machine fixed. I purchased a new GE washer from Lowes last May 2012. At the end of November 2013 the agitator came loose from the washer. I called GE the week of November the 25th I was scheduled for service on Wednesday November 4th. A technician came to my house and walked right in and knew what was wrong. He said that it was the transmission. He left me the number to Consumer Relations and told me to call them and see if my parts and labor would still be covered under warranty and he would go back and get the parts ordered.

When I called the lady that I spoke with was really nice and said that my parts would be covered and that she would give my 50% off the labor. I told her that I wanted to know how much the labor was going to cost before I scheduled an appointment. She emailed me for three days following our conversation letting me know that she had still not had a returned call from the technician. So I called on the 9th to see why it was taking so long. The lady that I spoke with said that the parts were ordered and were scheduled to be delivered to my house on the 10th and that the technician would be there on the 10th to repair my washer. No one had contacted me to let me know that I had an appointment schedule. My husband and I have full time jobs so a phone call to schedule an appointment would have been nice. The lady told me that the next appointment would be the 21st. Another week out.

Keep in mind I have been carrying my clothes to the laundry mat since the end of November. So I asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor was able to schedule me for Monday the 16th between 1 and 4 and was willing to cover the cost of all my repairs and send me a $50 check. I was very grateful. I requested to be the last call on the 16th. I left work on the 16th and arrived home a little after 4. I received a courtesy email from Sheila checking on my service that day. I responded letting her know that no one had showed up to fix my washer. I called GE around 5 to see if my technician was still on a call and the lady told me that someone had cancelled my service for the day but she could not tell me who it was. So not only does GE schedule appointments for customers without contacting them but apparently they cancel them as well. So now my next appointment could not be until Dec 27th.

I contacted my local news station to help with my situation because I was at a dead end wall. I was being put off over and over again because of mistakes made by GE. The news lady contacted customer relations and when I returned the call all of a sudden GE can send a contractor - The Trading Center - to my house and they can come on the 19th. Oh.......so now you tell me that 3 weeks later. So the lady at GE set up service for me through the contractor for the 19th and she told me that they would contact me with a time. On the 18th and the morning of the 19th I called and left a message for the contractor. I have gotten no response. So I called GE back the morning of the 19th. The lady also tried to call the contractor and got no answer.

I am extremely frustrated because someone is suppose to come to my house today to fix my washer but I have heard from anyone. I asked the girl from GE if she knew if the contractor was open and she said no. I tried to call GE corporate and what do you know I end right back up at consumer relations. The gentleman on the other line tried to call the contractor again and they did not answer. I asked him if he could go ahead and schedule for a technician to come to the house on the next available date in case no one showed up today and he said he would have to cancel my current appointment in order to do that. So here I am, still with no washer almost 4 weeks later and still having to lug laundry for a family of 4 to be cleaned. Every time I am given to a supervisor it is a voice mail. I have never received such poor customer service from a company. Please help me get my washer fixed ASAP.

Leg and Platform assembly damaged by counterweight. Washer bought at Home Depot October 2012 (14 months old), 1 year parts and labor warranty. The leg and platform assembly has two threaded bolt holes in it, a metal bracket that holds the counterweight in place is fastened by two .25" dia. bolts to these holes. Problem is that the leg and platform assembly metal is not thick enough to allow enough threads to support the counterweight. The bolts pull through the threads allowing the counterweight to fly around inside the washer damaging other parts of the washer and its wiring. To fix just the counterweight problem, you would need to replace the leg and platform assembly. The part costs $ 246.00 + the labor to install this part.

You would need to completely disassemble the washer to replace this part. I am not an Engineer but if you replaced the leg and platform assembly with the exact part in the washing machine, the same problem would happen again because the metal is too thin to support the counterweight. The washer is a write off because of the cost of the repair and the fact that the repair won't fix the problem. Also the counterweight can and will if not quickly rectified cause other problem with this washer because the motor, wiring and other components are in the same area as the counterweight.

I just purchased and had delivered/installed a GE Washer GTAP1800D0WN. I have never owned a GE product - all my washers and dryers have been Inglis Liberator and have lasted 20-25 year - I have only purchased 2 sets in my whole life and I purchased a set for my mother about 5-6 years ago. Needless to say, extremely happy with them but finally the Inglis washer went about 2 weeks ago - the gas dryer still was chugging along but I waved good-bye to it as well. Went to do my first load of wash in the new GE this morning - delicates, small load, gentle agitation - it started to give some big bangs and then sounded like it was washing gravel, for a while, and then stopped so I never paid it too much mind.

Went to do my first regular load of wash and the banging and gravel noises continued the whole time the machine agitated. Looked up a troubleshooting tip which said that the noise could be caused from a shipping bolt. I am no way mechanically inclined plus, I'm sorry, I just bought the darn thing so I'm not going to do anything myself. I called the appliance store and explained politely but when I got hemmed and hawed as to what the solution would be, I got a little perturbed and said, a little louder, that I wanted it looked after right smartly or I wanted a new washer.

My husband let me know this morning that he thought it was used because it came with old hoses - it got me thinking that maybe it was as I did not get an owner's manual nor a registration card whereas with the dryer, I received those items. I knew the washer pricing was "scratch & dent" but my understanding is that "s & d" is still new, never used, just some scratches/dents in the outside body. The appliance store owner told me not to be bitter with him as he was just a salesman.

I was impressed. To give him points though, he quickly stated that he was just trying to think through the process of how he could get out here and how he could also come with a new machine in case it was not the shipping bolt.

Reading all the reviews on the GE products has actually frightened me and I just don't want to see my money fly out the window. From all the places I went in search of washer/dryer, I was told by all that I shouldn't expect any more life than 8-12 years and that's if I'm lucky, the dryer should last 20 - how very sad this diagnosis is. Anyway, long story short (as the story has not yet ended) through all these reviews, I have not been able to find out anything about this model - am I missing something or is this the only model that is excellent?

I bought a GE machine and it flooded my room on the first try. I did not want it repaired; instead I switched it for another one. The second machine started vibrating a few months later. I assumed it was out of balance due to the clothes. But no matter how they were adjusted it continued. I finally called a repairman. He stated the machines were bad and made in Mexico for cheap and then sold them for a huge profit. He recommended not to bother fixing it. I then called GE and told them what I had been told. One escalation person said she would send a GE repairman and if it couldn't be fixed she could authorized $250 towards the purchase of a new one. The repairman said he could fix it for $190, then the price came down to $140 after the escalation person talked to him. He strongly suggested that GE should pay for the entire repair since the machine was so new. When I told this to the GE escalation person she refused to even considered it. This machine is used once every two weeks at most. There is no reason for it to have broken so soon. It is barely one year old. GE knows it is producing inferior products and is failing the consumers. All I want is for it to be made right.

On August 23, 2013, we purchased a Unitized washer and dryer on the Home Depot website. The unit was delivered and installed, by Home Depot people, on August 25, 2013. After only a few uses, the dryer no longer worked. A service person, from GE, came to look at the unit and advised that something was wrong with the vent, in the condo, which when it reached a certain temperature, caused the dryer to be damaged and unusable. They said that the damaged parts, in the dryer could be replaced but that the same thing would happen again, when the dryer was used.

We checked with the management office for the condo community (at least 200 units) and they had never heard any such thing or ever experienced this problem. When we got back with GE, we were then told that either the vent, to the outside, was blocked or that it exceeds the allowable distance of 16 feet. In order to ensure that there was nothing wrong, with the vent, we had it checked, at our own expense. We were advised that there was nothing wrong, with the vent itself and after cleaning the entire system to the outside of the building, we were advised that there was very little lint in there, certainly not enough to cause any type of problem. We have checked the instruction booklet regarding this issue. The recommended maximum length is 33 feet with one elbow, 22 feet with two elbows. Therefore our vent system is within the recommended maximum length.

GE came back a second time and replaced the damaged parts and told us the dryer could not be used above the delicate setting and even then, may not work , very long. Now there is burning smell when even used at delicate cycle. We are very afraid it could cause fire, so we stop using it. We are now approximately 2 month past when the dryer first became unusable. We made multiple trips, the approximately 50 miles to Wilmington, DE to try and rectify the problem. We made a good faith purchase of a GE product, from Home Depot and have had nothing but problems, since. We are now, almost a ping pong ball being bounced between, GE and Home Depot, each denying responsibility and more than once changing their stories. We have, from the outset, made it clear that all we want to do is get the useless unit returned, get credit for it and purchase another unit from another manufacturer. The complete lack of cooperation, from GE and Home Depot and what, at times, certainly seems to be their dishonest business practices have made this impossible.

This GE Profile Washer PTWN8050M0WW was purchased as part of a pair on Jan. 19, 2012 for $2096.90. It was the best top load model at the time sold at Lowe's. It was delivered on Jan. 23, 2012. On Oct. 3, 2013, the Infuser Assembly (the thing at the bottom of the tub that moves the clothes around) broke free. I called GE to inquire if this was under warranty. They could not tell me. They said I had to schedule a repair visit at the cost of roughly $100 to determine if it was a warranty item. I declined to schedule a visit at that time. I did some disassembly to determine what part had broke. The stud on the top of the Mechanical Housing Assembly had sheared off. The Infuser bolt attaches to this stud. I called GE back with this information again to inquire about warranty status.

Again, they suggested I schedule a repair visit. I did not need a visit since I knew what part had failed. Eventually, I was told that this part was not covered. I inquired as to how much it would be to buy the part from GE ($360) and how much it would cost if they came out and fixed it ($700 plus any additional). I feel a $1100 plus washer should last more than 19 months without needing a major repair. Fair warning to anyone considering a GE appliance, buy the longest warranty possible. You will need it. We scheduled a pick for Oct 5, nobody came to pick it up. Then we rescheduled for Monday, October 7. Again, nobody showed up. They stated they had the wrong address. It was rerouted for October 8. I called numerous times from 9:00am-4:30pm and nobody came, and each representative stated there was nothing they could do. I have explained that I am nine months pregnant (due any day) and that I need this taken care of before I go to the hospital. I have rescheduled Dr.'s appointment and kept my young daughter from going to school so that I may be home. I feel they are giving me the runaround so that they do not have to come get their broken products and that I will be stuck buying a washer/dryer that is broken.

I had to purchase two washers from GE within the past two years. I purchased a top loader GE machine at the end of 2010. In June of 2011 I had to have the machine replaced because it kept leaving residue on my clothing. I had to make up the difference in the purchase of the new machine which was a front loader, suggested by the salesman stating the this was the Cadillac of washers. The motor on my front loader GE model #GFWN1100L1WW, serial #FV2067197 died just after the warranty expired in August of 2013, only after I had to have the machine repaired when it stopped spinning less than a year after purchase.

At this time I felt that GE should have replaced the washer free of charge, but they refused. I lost confidence in their repair service because this was the second time that the machine required repairs. Then they offer me to purchase a discounted machine; however, I would have to pay the difference on the new purchase with charges for shipping and handling to the tune of $414 on the first offer and $240 on the second. After talking to several technicians and writing letters to the corporate office, I am convinced that these people are selling merchandise that they know is not worth the money that we the consumer pay and their warranties are keeping them in business.

I have gone back in forth with GE on this issued for two months (August and September 2013). They ignored my registered letters that I mailed and now that I couldn't get any response from the CEO, they’re starting the process all over again. Again they’re coming to examine the machine for the second time even though they have my repair issued on file. This is the second machine that I have purchased and the second time they've had to repair the second machine. They've taken my money and have taken advantage of me. Years ago, customer satisfaction was guaranteed and companies valued their customers. But these days, buyer beware and save join all warranty clubs.

Purchased new GE 3.9 top loader last year at Lowes and have not liked from day one. The main problem is the spin cycle sounds like combat boots banging around inside. We convinced ourselves it was a new self-balancing mechanism and have continued to rearrange the load manually ever since. Now the sound is unbearable. After research it seems the concrete counterweight is probably broken. I moved the appliance from the wall and indeed found concrete dust on floor. Other parts might be affected by the banging as well. Machine now out of warranty. Will not buy another GE product.

My washer failed due to a broken drum spider support. The engineers at GE have designed the washer to have a pot metal support for the drum. Having two different metals immersed in acid water causes the weaker metal to decay, to be eaten away by the electrolysis that happens while washing clothes. The unit is doomed from the day you first use it and the frequency of use hastens the failure.

If you buy this appliance from GE it WILL fail and the repair is $500 for the replacement part and the installation takes hours. I asked for help and they want to sell me the part to address the design flaw. I feel that paying $200 for the discounted part and $300 labor is more than the washer is worth. I’ll be posting many, many complaints against GE to discourage others from buying their products as I feel this is by design to have the product fail.

I have the GE Hydro Wave Quiet agitator washer system. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I bought it in May of 2013. This is September. I thought I was not using the right settings for the loads but after beating myself up I know now the washer will not wash a nice size load of laundry like my old washer. It is a large washer top loader but in order to have a nice amount of water to agitate I have to split a load of laundry in half and wash two loads where before I could wash 5 pair of jeans and a couple t-shirts.

I called a repairman. He came out and told me it is what it is. It has ripped off bra straps, broke the plastic strap holder on one bra, and my bath towels are getting torn. Hate it. They need to start over. 11 inches of water in a empty washer does not work. When you put in your laundry it gets sucked up and it is like washing on a rock in a muddy river. It will be cheaper for me to go to the laundromat. $1.75 for a load for three loads that I would have to divide up into six. I want my money back but where I bought it closed. And I don't think the guarantee is with them. It is with GE.

Purchased this unit in 2006. Other than a sometimes irrational spin cycle and front door seal (boot) replacement, there have been no major problems - till now. Seems that the main bearing is shot; this happened without warning. During the spin cycle, the machine developed a loud banging noise and began vibrating very strongly. I unplugged it immediately.

I did a bit of troubleshooting to see if there might be a fairly simple solution, but such is not the case. The noise and vibration happen whether the machine has a full load, or a small load, or even when there's no load. I checked the springs supporting the drum and they're both intact. Checked the four 'shock absorbers' under the drum and they're all working properly.

Today, I called Customer Care at GE to see if there are any recalls or what, if any, recourse there may be. No recalls, but and they offered 1/2 off on parts and labor after a $94.95 service charge (refundable if I have them do the repairs). I declined to make an appointment, informed the very nice customer service person that I'd prefer to have a new machine since this major repair shouldn't be needed after only seven years. In my opinion this GE washer is a piece of junk. I'll be buying a new washer - and it won't be a GE.

It is now September 9th and the machine is doing the same thing. I called GE. When I contacted GE, I spoke with Lorena. She then stated that since my warranty expired August 1st, that they would give me 50% off on the part and $50 off on the labor. I only wanted them to send the repairman back out to fix what was not repaired the first time. She said it would cost me $84.95 just to come look at it again. She said that they are going to take 50% off the part and service. Why not just send the repairman back out and honor their guarantee on parts.

She told me that her offer had a 7-day expiration. I don't think that it is fair that I have to now pay for a service call when the problem was not fixed while I was under warranty. Now they offer me 50% off parts when the parts I received are still under warranty.

We have a GE Front Load Washer that we purchased in 2006, and seven years later, the bearings are completely shot. The parts are under warranty, but by the time we pay a repair guy to replace the bearings, and whatever else he might suggest, then we can just buy another machine. The odd thing is that we stayed in a beach rental house this past July (2013) which has an older ('80s model) top load washer in it, and it washed the clothes just fine!! As far as we know, that ole GE washer is still getting up! My point is that I totally expected an $800 machine to last more than 7 years!!!

Another issue with these front load machines is that the rubber gaskets tend to dry rot and collect mold after a couple years of usage... even when you clean them regularly, keep them dry, and leave the door open. We spoke to a Lowe's salesperson to get an idea of the best and worst machines to consider going forward, and to our surprise our local Lowe's refuses to carry ANY GE Front Load washers now. Apparently, Lowe's was plagued with more returns than sales on the GE Front Loads, so they no longer stock them. In GE's defense, many of the major brand front load machines have these same issues. We will be going back to a TOP LOADER, and unfortunately it will not be a GE brand due to the customer reviews placing GE at the bottom of the list!! GOOD LUCK and Research before you buy!

I now have to reset it about every other time I use it. Yes, I put in a complaint on it with GE. They immediately put in a service ticket on it and sent a serviceman out on it. After checking the machine, he said it has a faulty board on it and he will have to order it. Meanwhile, I'm still resetting this piece of garbage. "WE WANT TO BE A COMPANY THAT IS ALWAYS GETTING BETTER. A company that understands where it fits in the markets and in society and appreciates its responsibility to both." ~ Jeff Immelt, CEO of GE

Either Jeff Immelt is a liar or his employees are mistreating customers behind his back. Regardless, something is very wrong.

In 2008, I bought a brand new GE Profile Frontload Washer and Dryer set from Lowes for over $3500. (Yikes!!) I have never had any trouble with the dryer. The washer, on the other hand, has never worked properly. Over the last 5 years, I have had to call to have it serviced multiple times - once within the warranty period and a couple times after the warranty had expired. I have had to pay a few service call fees, but the repairs themselves have always been covered. I’m guessing this is because nothing was ever actually fixed on it. The detergent does not dispense properly from the pedestal, if at all. The clothes are often dripping wet when the cycle ends, and I have to run them through an additional spin cycle. Sometimes the washer will stop mid-cycle and just shut down completely. Over the last 5 years, I have seen my clothes get dingier and dingier from the sub-par performance of this washer.

Two weeks ago, something snapped in the washer. No longer was it “not working properly;” now it was not working, period. My kids said they heard a loud noise, and when I opened the door to my laundry closet, there was smoke coming from the washer.

I called GE and spoke with Carsen. It turns out there is a RECALL on my washer! Nothing could have surprised me less. He took my information and told me that a part - a computer part to sync up to the washer’s computer - was being shipped out to me. He also gave me the name of the service company (Bob’s Appliance Service in Westbrook) that would be coming out to my house. Three days went by and I had not received anything in the mail. I called Bob’s and they had no record of a dispatch from GE. I had to call GE to get the [dropped] ball rolling again!

A few days later, Bob from Bob’s Appliance came out to address the recall issue. After thoroughly examining the washer, he stated that it wouldn't be worth fixing. It would require parts and labor costing more than the price of a new machine. “Thank God!” I thought, “I will finally be rid of this piece-of-junk machine once and for all!”

I called GE while Bob was still here. I spoke with them. Bob spoke with them. It was made clear that this machine was broken beyond repair. I was told that someone from GE would get back to me later that day, and if I were getting a new machine, it could be delivered as early as Tuesday. Yes, Tuesday - today. I did not get a call back that day. I waited and waited, and no call came. Finally, I called GE to find out the status of my complaint. Was GE exchanging my machine? Um, no.

GE said that since my machine IS repairable, it is going to be repaired. (Even a “totaled” car is repairable if you’re willing to put enough time and money into it, people. That doesn’t mean it’s the wisest choice.) Nope. Not wise at all, but… I was told that the part - the parts - the ENTIRE drum assembly! - was going to be overnighted to me and my washer was going to be fixed.

That was last Thursday. Today is Tuesday. Remember Tuesday? It’s Tuesday here at my house. Guess what hasn’t arrived at my house? A drum assembly! In fact, I haven’t received anything from GE - - except a duplicate part from the original phone call to GE. Not helpful.

So, I called GE again today (do you see a pattern here?) asking where the ‘overnighted’ drum assembly might be. I knew it wasn’t at my house. But it turns out it’s not even at GE’s house. It’s on back order. Until December. DECEMBER! D.E.C.E.M.B.E.R!!! That is unacceptable! Completely unacceptable! This is a broken GE product. It is broken due to a recall from GE. There was an error in the way it was manufactured. It is not my fault. And yet, I am being made to suffer.

GE: Just ‘fess up and admit that the original washer was a piece of junk. Give me a new one. I’d prefer a Maytag or Whirlpool, but if GE’s are all you have, I’ll take one of those. One that works, please.

I told the woman on the phone today that I cannot be without a washer until December. I have a husband and 6 kids, and the nearest laundromat is 20 minutes away! In the last 2 weeks, I’ve spent nearly $40 doing my laundry someplace other than my home because the GE washer in my home is broken! And GE won’t even reimburse me any laundromat charges! But don’t worry… someone at GE is “looking into it” for me.

Everyone I speak to at GE is very friendly. They are very sympathetic and apologetic. The “Sympathy and Apology Training” classes must be top notch! However, there seems to be no department at GE to actually address problems or make things right.

If GE does manage to make this situation right - if they can somehow see through their idiocy and replace my machine - I will not take back all the nasty things I’ve said about them because I’ve said nothing untrue. But I will tell everyone that they finally did the right thing… But I’m not holding my breath. I try to see the silver lining where I can, and I see two great things that have come out of this ordeal. 1) Thanks to the laundromat, I have been reminded how clothes are supposed to smell, look and feel when they are actually CLEAN. 2) In telling this story far & wide, I have high hopes that no one else will have to go through what I have gone through. Learn from me, don’t buy GE! In fact, that would make a nice bumper sticker! Thank you for reading this letter!

PLEASE NOTE: I have every intention of sending this letter to the Better Business Bureau, several area newspapers, all the local tv stations, and countless friends and family members. It will also be posted on GE’s Facebook page as well as my own Facebook timeline.

Washer model WHRE5550K2WW - I contacted GE about the malfunctioning machine. My wife had been using it for three years, never realizing that the machine was not washing or rinsing the clothes. After watching the machine cycle through its wash and rinse cycles several times, and having to manually agitate the clothes... I called the GE help line. I spoke with a nice male volunteer who agreed that it was a complete engineering failure.

I informed him that I had to manually fill the tank by holding the water level knob to reset - since it only filled the tank halfway - regardless of the size of the load. The agitator only vibrated the clothes on the very bottom of the load so the clothes on top merely moved slightly.

The rinse cycle was a complete joke. Water would enter... in what was called a 'rain water rinse'... Meaning that the water came in, hit the clothes on the very inside of the spinned dry clothes against the tank and then ran out. The tank never filled nor did the clothes get agitated in a tank of water. So, they never really got rinsed.

He agreed that what I was doing was about the only thing to do since the machine did not wash and rinse as one should do.

I then sent an email to GE and some days later got an email from a representative. After going back and forth about the problem without resolution, I finally threatened to file a class action lawsuit. She then said further research had revealed that they could send out a new agitator and motor. Those parts were sent and installed by a local tech at no charge to us.

They did not fix the problem. The tank still fills only half way. The bottom clothes are the only ones agitated. The big change is that the 'rain water rinse' now is a normal rinse - though the tank only fills half way and the clothes need to be manually agitated... as they do in the wash cycle. I was told by the volunteer that the machine was manufactured to meet the requirements demanded by environmentalists. Well, GE created a worthless machine, and the environmentalists have caused more problems for everyone than this effort prevented.

We have purchased almost everything in our kitchen from GE. It used to be a very good product, but as we had the service people down to figure out why our washer was dead in the road, we were told after I tried to fix it on my own paying 135.00 dollars, trying to save myself some money, for a new computer board, which is non-returnable, a friend told me he thought that’s what it was, the one on the top side behind the knobs, my bad there. The tech said they used to put inline fuses in them to protect the motor but they stopped doing that, so we were told the motor was burned up, at a cost of almost 400.00 dollars, excluding labor.

So the price I paid for the computer board plus the 95.00 dollars service call equals out to 230.00 dollars, without purchasing the motor and having it installed in our 2011 GE washer, which gets used two times a week and as I read the other peoples reviews GE doesn’t do a very good job backing their product. I can go out and buy a new one for that kind of money. So when it all comes down to it would have cost 630 dollars in my 2011 GE washing machine. I talked to the service tech; he tells me he has replaced a lot of motors on the GE washers which also have a computer board on the top of the motor. So where does the moisture from the washer go?

He says one lady has her washer out on her back porch and has replaced two motors on her washer, it’s a GE also. So all that said, it’s time to go out and shop for another brand since mine is unrepairable because of the cost of getting it fixed back up in running condition. Our dryer is squealing, I think there are bearings going out of it, but it still works so far, our 2011 GE dryer. The tech did not look at the dryer by the way. That’s just what I'm thinking, to be fair with GE corp. but the longer it runs the louder it is. We go to the Laundromat now to wash our clothes and bring them home to dry them until we can get another brand washing machine.

Worst appliance purchase I've ever made! First of all, the washer was delivered 2 days late because their truck delivering to Home Depot broke down. Bad omen! The washer did 4 loads before it broke down and wouldn't spin water out. Repair tech came and it worked fine. He basically told me I was crazy because he couldn't find anything. 2 weeks later, not only wouldn't it spin water out - it wouldn't stop running water IN. So with 2 inches of water over the floor - it was time to get another repair tech out here. The washer worked fine when he was here as well. . . which to me made it obvious there was something wrong with the timer which would not move forward at intermittent times.

He said he would order parts, not to use the machine for the week it would take to get the parts in, and he would return. How could I ever trust the machine in the future when the repair techs couldn't even find the problem and were just guessing about how to fix it? Home Depot is taking care of this problem by delivering another machine (which hopefully works!) but GE would not honor any quality commitments to Home Depot. That being the case, I would advise we eliminate the problem by making sure no one buys a GE Hotpoint washer.

I came from a family of GE appliances and previously had great experiences myself, so I did not hesitate to replace my washer with another GE unit. This washer has been leaking out of all sides and soaking my floor during a hot cycle since I purchased it. I purchased it through a Home Warranty, so I couldn't simply just return it in the first 30 days. After much arguing and escalating, the unit was replaced within the first 30 days of purchase.

The 2nd unit was also doing the same thing. I have had a minimum of 6 visits from technicians to address the problem. Most won't stay more than 5 minutes, they don't investigate and then they call into GE to report that I don't have a leak. On the last visit, I sat in the floor with the technician and forced him to stay long enough to see the water condensation at the top and on the floor. They said my water heater was turned up too high and turned it down to a level where I didn't even have a hot shower. I still have the problem in spite of that.

Customer service called me after this visit and told me that a request for a replacement was denied and that "a little condensation was normal". They couldn't replace the unit, but they could send a different technician out to service the problem. I will never buy GE again and am trying very hard to find every venue possible to share my story so that no one else has such a horrible experience as me.

It now makes a terrible grinding noise and after researching it I found that they put out a Service Bulletin for the issue and my machine is listed as the model number that has the "sagging apron" issue. This means that it wasn't built correctly to support the wash load and so the motor scrapes on the bottom metal. It is very loud. All the various appliance sites know about the issue and I have a copy of the Service Bulletin.

When I contacted GE, Samantha got back in touch and told me that there are no known issues for my machine even though I gave her the part needed and what the problem was called. She then stated that since it is a new machine that they would give me 50% off on the part and $50 off on the labor. I only wanted them to supply me with the part so I could repair it myself. Same difference it seems since they say they are going to take 50% off the part and service. Why not just give me the part free. They both equal up to the same thing.

Problem is, they won't make any money that way. I sent her a copy of the Service Bulletin and she still says there is no such issue. My son's comment when he heard it running was, "What's that?" I tell him it is my new washer - that is how it sounds. Extremely noisy and makes all sorts of odd sounds. Okay? But the real kicker is that for its rating of large capacity - it's nonsense, you can't put much in it. Why? Because its water setting is very low. I do not overload machines or do other such harmful things, but this is a top-loader that barely fills up. I showed my son that. His comment was that it doesn't clean - it only moves the dirt around. Worst piece of garbage ever. Water conservation might work for a front loader. At least the water gets tossed around. I can't get king bed white sheets to come out bright and clean, bleach, Oxiclean, etc. I hate this machine, but have to stick with it since as they say, I am not made of money. It is a piece of garbage, noisy and does not do the job. I am being fair, I have tried everything. Tonight to wash a comforter I manually added extra water, we'll see if that helps.

We are seniors and thought this would be our last appliance purchases. In Jan. of 2008 we moved into our house and bought all new appliances. We purchased our last GE washer from Home Depot on Feb.16, 2011. It is already going out. Of course the warranty is only good for one year. That's as long as they expect it to last. It is $300.00 to repair the washer. If the past 5 years the stove went bad. Home Depot was kind enough to replace it. Not GE. The dishwasher is down to one wash cycle and this is the second washer in 5 years. We will never buy another GE appliance.

I bought a GE Washer and Dryer in October of 2008. In January of 2012 a tech came out to fix my washer. They ended up replacing everything on the inside of my washer on the exception of the shell and the controls that you switch to change load size, water temp, extra. Then in May of 2013 the washer quit agitating and spin cycle quit working. I had a GE tech come out to fix the washer. They fixed a switch. Then again the spin cycle had quit working again. I had another GE tech come out and fix the washer and it was the same switch that went out before. The tech told me that it was a bad switch. Then in June the washer's spin cycle quit working again. Another GE Tech came out and fix the same switch and I was told that it was a bad switch.

Then around July 12, 2013 the washer quit spinning again. Then I got a GE tech to come out on July 22, 2013. They fixed the same switch and I was told it was a bad switch again. They also told me they would give me a deeply, deeply, deeply discounted rate off a new washer that was comparable to what I have. Which came out to 600.00 without tax, delivery. Then they told me that it would be 413.00. That would be with the 100.00 that I paid back in May. Then by July 26, 2013 my washer quit again (which was only 5 days after the tech had fixed my washer). I called GE again and I had another appointment for July 30, 2013 but they were able to come out on Monday July 29, 2013. The GE tech had fixed the switch again and was told that it was another bad switch.

This time instead of lasting longer it went out late Tuesday night (July 30 2013)/early Wednesday morning (July 31, 2013). But this time it was not just the switch for the spin cycle. It also stopped worked. I had found the number for a GE Appliance Headquarters office in Louisville, KY 40225 (Carmin Office) 203-373-2211 and I spoke with a person named Wendy and she was able to knock off another 100.00 off a new washer. Which I would have to use a major credit card. Which I do not have. So they ended up keeping my appointment with the GE tech for August 5, 2013 which is on a Monday. After I had spoken with Wendy, I decided to check my breaker box. And now it threw my breaker off that controls my washer.

At this point I believe that a four and a half year old washer that GE built is a lemon. Because every time they try to fix my washer it does not last and now it's causing my breaker in my breaker box to be throw. I hope today's GE tech can fix my washer (today is Monday August 5, 2013 / my appointment is between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm). I do not have any faith that they can fix this washer.

I also am getting grease stains on items. This happens in the washer (GE Profile Harmony) and I've learned to check items as them come out before I put them in the dryer. I think lightweight items get drawn into the cylinder holes during the spin cycle resulting in grease being transferred to the clothing. I have had to start using a bag designed for delicates for all lightweight clothing. I've received no good answer from GE on a fix for this. Mine model is a top load. I always keep it clean, so the blame isn't on the homeowner. GE's own site says I'm a sloppy cooker, haha. Crazy. Never buying GE again.

I've owned GE Front Loading Washer, model WCVH6800J a little over 4 years and I can honestly say it is the worst appliance I have ever owned. Just a few months after I purchased it, it began dancing around the laundry room during the spin cycle and making loud disturbing noises. I don't have a large family or big loads and do only about 2 - 3 medium loads a week, so it's not like the machine is being overused or overloaded, but it doesn't do even an acceptable job of washing and spinning. Sometimes the clothes get spun and are ready to put in the matching dryer (also a huge disappointment) but about 1/2 of the time I have to rearrange the clothes during the spin cycle or add additional spin time to the load before putting it in the dryer. This adds to the cleaning time and energy use and demands that I babysit the darn thing throughout the long wash cycle.

I have never noticed any energy reduction from this machine on my electricity bill, which I expected because it replaced a supposedly much less efficient 20-year-old top load Kenmore. The GE machine has never cleaned anything particularly well, and after about 6 months, all my expensive, natural colored organic towels were a dingy gray. I researched and experimented with different detergents and laundry aids, but the only thing that worked was to soak the towels with a whitener in the bathtub before even putting them into the washing machine, as the presoak option on the machine never made a difference. Again, this added more time on my part to get clothes clean and negated the water efficiency benefits.

I expect new, more advanced, and more expensive appliances like this one to reduce my workload, not add to it. I expected this product to be greener and more environmentally responsible, but it has been a big letdown.

A few months ago, the machine began making much louder noises like a jet engine taking off and vibrating like a 4.1 earthquake. I called a repairman, paid him $100 dollars to evaluate the problem, and he said it's "probably" the drum and the cost to replace the part would be about $600, plus $437 labor. Then he printed out the estimate on his mobile printer and handed it to me. The estimate for the part said, $26,296! I'm not kidding. I pointed out the discrepancy between his verbal estimate and the printed estimate, and he said it was just an error in the database. Like no big deal. He was a nice enough guy, had lots of experience and seemed to know the machines well, but he sure didn't do a good job of selling his company's brand to me or building my trust in GE appliances.

Yesterday, the machine completely broke down and would only perform two feeble little turns of the drum before it would just stop and whine. The 20-year old Kenmore this machine replaced is still running in a rental house. It has never had a problem or needed a new part or repair. I know the front loading machines are fairly new technology, but when I pay nearly $1,000 for an appliance -- more than twice what the old Kenmore cost -- I expect something much better than what I got. I expect less work, cleaner clothes, less wear and tear on my clothes, reduced energy use, reasonable repair costs, and a product that is greener and more environmentally sustainable. I didn't get any of those benefits with this machine and needless to say, I will never buy a GE appliance again.

If you are buying a front loading machine, please research and consult reliable reviews before buying. I believe there must be better products on the market than this one. I did not do that when I bought this one and I regret it. I could have avoided a very costly mistake.

My second repair call (for the same problem) was on 7/26/13. Both times, I was told the problem was fixed. It wasn't. My third repair call will be 8/5/13. I don't have much faith that this will be fixed. This has all been handled via the 12-month manufacturer's warranty. I paid $539 for this machine, and GE has paid approximately $293 to fix it.

The machine still sounds like I'm washing rocks. The same screw keeps working itself out of a part that helps keep the drum stable. When the repairman showed up on Friday, he put something on it (probably Locktite) and said the screw shouldn't come out again. He ran the machine empty, and there was no noise. After he left, I ran a load of wash, and the banging is back. I am so unhappy with this machine, and wish I'd stuck to Whirlpool.

My fiance and I got a GE Washing Machine less than a year ago. It does not fill enough water to cover the clothes when washing. It does not spin the dirty water out of the clothes before it rinses. It does not agitate at all if you do not select the "power rinse option"; Keyword: OPTION. When this is selected, it will add a maximum of 11 gallons of water into our 22-gallon washer. And get this: it only agitates for 5-7 seconds, then the clothes just sit there. Tell me how clothes are supposed to get clean when there is not enough water to cover them? Or when they rinse, they sit in dirty water? Or when the washer doesn't agitate longer than 5-7 seconds, and not at all if it's not on power rinse?

We bought this at Lowe's. We had three service calls through Lowe's that were of no help. A GE repair guy came this week and had to replace the motor. He then confirmed that our machine is like this because it's a water-saver machine. We did not want, nor did we buy, a water-saving machine. It does not say it's a water saver. GE is trying to tell us the machine works as it was designed to operate. Well, it does NOT CLEAN OR RINSE CLOTHES!

It's very sad that GE used to be a reputable company; now, they cannot design a washing machine to operate effectively! We want our money back. You would think GE would want to keep their customers happy and not lose customers in the future! I will take this as far as it needs to go to get a washing machine that doesn't give us stinky clothes that don't even get water to cover them when on the super large wash level...

Less than a year ago we bought a GE washer and as time went by, we noticed a rust-like stain on our clothes. After investigating, we saw that it wasn't our water but the tub was leaking some kind of fluid. We called to get it serviced and month after month we had service men come and do different things to service the machine. They finally determined that it was a defective machine and ordered us a new one. After one month the new machine started to have the same problem. A new service man was sent and he said that it just needed a new tub. When the new tub came, a different tech came and didn't even bother to change it out. He told us that it wouldn't help, that there is some kind of leak in one of the seals of the machine and that we needed to contact GE to resolve the problem.

When we called them, we were told that the tech had put on his report that he changed out the tub and that everything was fine (a lie since the new tub is still in the box that it was delivered in and still sitting in our garage). GE then told us they would look into it and get back to us. A week later they called us and told us that he did acknowledge that he didn't change anything out. They then told us that we needed to wipe out the machine with a towel after every washing to prevent the rust from ruining our clothes. We said that that was unacceptable. We followed the guidelines in the manual on washing the loads and there is nothing in there about wiping it down constantly. We know how to do a wash.

The other alternative was to give us a different machine (more expensive of course) at our expense. We found that to be unacceptable and told them we would be happy to just have our money back and we would take our business elsewhere. They refused.

First of all, I want you to know that I have been a faithful GE appliance owner for at least 40 years. A couple of years ago, maybe three, I needed to replace my washer and dryer. I went to Lowe's and they were having a sale. I wanted a large washer as I have horses and needed a washer large enough to wash horse blankets (equivalent to at least a queen bedspread). I was assured by the saleslady that this would be the best bet. This washer is the biggest piece of junk that I've ever used. Within a week, I was calling GE with complaints. I just kept getting the runaround and was offered a chance to exchange it for one with an agitator for an extra $300 or so. So I've continued to struggle with the one I have.

The only way I can get anything at all clean, even towels, is to put in an extra gallon or so of water. Today, as I was washing, I decided to get online and see what others are saying about this piece of junk. I got on the YouTube demonstration of the Infusor Washer, dated 2010. In theory, and in your video, your system works. In reality, it doesn't work at all. Then I read all the complaints. I can honestly say that I experience every single one of them.

    1. The water doesn't cover the clothes if I don't add at least a gallon of water in the beginning of the cycle.
    2. The load after a load done with bleach put into the dispenser are all bleached out. I have several brand new towels that I just bought that are ruined.
    3. Dark clothes come out with grey streaks.
    4. Denim will NEVER get clean, whether they are pretreated or not. They can be washed four times and the knees are still dirty. No more than 4 pair can be put in at a time.
    5. Nothing large can be washed... No blankets, no quilts, no horse blankets, no throw rugs, nothing.

    6. My clothes come out of the washer looking like they have been drug behind a truck for 20 miles. They are wrinkled, knotted and even the dryer can't smooth out the nasty wrinkles.

So at this point, I feel that you should take responsibility for this engineering fiasco. Even though it's been a while, I would appreciate my money back and not have to pay more for an exchange. Your credibility and reputation is critically damaged.

Have you ever bought an appliance from hell? We did, and wished we hadn't. We purchased a GE infused low washing machine in order to conserve water, and save money. What we got was the worst appliance we have ever had in our 56 years on this earth. It came with a one year factory warranty. We never buy extended warranties on the belief that if you buy a good named product, you don't need it. Boy, we were ever so wrong. The first experience we had with this hunk of junk was about two weeks of ownership. We noticed our clothes weren't getting clean and had a faint musty odor. We called Home Depot, who told us to call GE about the problem. After talking with GE, we learned that dirty and smelly clothes are not part of the warranty, and there was nothing we could do about it. They suggested we call a plumber to see if that was the issue. We did, and it wasn't. After all, we lived in this house for twenty years and never had the problem with the 15 year old Kenmore that we replaced with this machine. We just had to grin and bear it.

The second issue happened conveniently after the one year warranty ran out. This time, the motor burned up and had to be replaced. It cost $285 to replace that. Then finally, after 18 months, the hub disintegrated. It destroyed the basket, hub assy, tub, tub seal, and the transmission. This time, the repairs would be over $750, which was a total loss. When I contacted GE, they offered to pay half of the repair bill, provided I use their repair person. I told them that I already paid the other guy $125 for his service and didn't want to shell out more for their guy. Besides that, the machine is a piece of junk, and I wanted to buy something else other than a GE.

They then offered to give me 20% discount on another machine as long as it is a GE. I told them no, that I didn't want another piece of crap GE. I said that I would rather have them give me back the $350 is spent for the repair, or issue me a certificate for another product GE makes. They said no, and that in order for them to help, I must either buy another GE washer or get this one fixed. I refused and went back to Home Depot, who told me that they were standing firm on GE's offer and that was it. I told them if they didn't make this good that I would get rid of my Home Depot accounts. They said that they didn't care what I did, they have plenty of customers and a couple of accounts won't be missed. I then called corporate, who echoed the same sentiment as the store manager. IT SEEMS THIS IS CORPORATE CULTURE. HOME DEPOT’S NEW BUSINESS MODEL is screwing every customer it can. And why not? There are more like me out there. BUYERS, BEWARE!!!

However, we have been battling with this washer for a whole year. Tomorrow, we are having the repair technician come for the fourth time to replace the agitator. This will be the fourth agitator that has broken in a year and we also had to replace the motor which was supposed to correct the overly powerful torque on the agitator. The new motor did not correct the problem.

Clothes get stuck underneath the blades of the agitator and as a result, all of the fins at the bottom of the agitator have broken. Since there is a sliver of space in between the smooth base of the agitator and the broken fins, clothing gets stuck underneath the broken fin. Most of our clothing has holes from the sharp edges of the broken fins. Hopefully when the technician comes tomorrow, he will allow us to move forward with their "lemon policy" and replace the washer. I will certainly not go for another Hotpoint! GTWN4250D0WS Clothes Washer - This is the worst washer I ever purchased. Same as some previous reviewers, I have to add buckets of water to the machine with any size load. The clothes just seem to rip back and forth, and with some loads, the top level of clothes do not even get wet; hence, the adding of water. When water is added, the clothes roll over nicely and get evenly clean.

I called GE twice about this "high efficiency" washer, hoping that the first technician was wrong, that my washer is supposed to work like that and uses less water than I was used to. I've been washing clothes for 50 years and never have had a problem. I was told that even when I use the manual setting to set the water level - and I am setting every load on "super" level, even for a few items rather than using the "sensor" cycle" - it will still only fill partly. Well, when the clothes don't turn over and the same ones stay on top, and sometimes stay dry unless I add water, I know sooner than later I will have shredded clothes. I don't even see any detergent evidence reaching the top of the load!

The second tech couldn't tell me why the tub was made so big if you can't even fill it halfway, even filling it lightly. I didn't buy it for the tub-size anyway, I bought it because the outside dimensions fitted in the small space that I have for the washer. He stated that he's gotten calls like mine from others, and even if he sends out the technician to repair, they don't find anything wrong and they say that's how the machine works. Horrible!

As soon as I get done paying off bills from Super Storm Sandy, I am dumping this washer and getting one that works properly. To tell me to divide those "old" loads I was used to doing into two smaller loads...doesn't that defeat the purpose of high efficiency? Now, I'm running the machine twice rather than once. If I have to wash two small bath towels, two hand towels, and two wash cloths separately, I STILL HAVE TO ADD WATER ON THE SUPER CYCLE. This is a serious design problem.

I called GE Customer Service numerous times about this problem, and they stated that it was a water-saver model and that's just the way it is. In order to be able to wash clothes, we always have to carry buckets of water from the kitchen sink to put enough water in the drum to cover the clothes.

Several weeks ago, I called the GE Customer Service and asked them on the super-size load setting just how much water should be in the clothes drum, and they told me 14 inches from the bottom of the drum to the top of the water. I set the size on the load setting to Super and turned on the machine without any clothes in it. It quit filling with water at 10 and 1/2 inches. I called GE Customer Service and told them what I had found, and after a lengthy telephone conversation, they said they would send a service tech out to confirm my findings. He arrived several days later, only to confirm what I had found, so he ordered a new fill valve for the washer. They sent it to me, and the service tech came back and installed it, only to find that it would still only put 10 and 1/2 inches of water in the drum.

GE Customer Service called me back several days later to find out if the machine had been repaired, and I told them that the new part still didn't fix the problem. They called me back several days later and offered to replace the washer with a different model, as this model was no longer being made (I wonder why?). They told me that to get a new model comparable to the one I have now, it would cost me around $450.00, at which I replied I can buy a brand new one of another brand for $600.00, so why would I pay them $450.00 when this washer was only a-year-and-a-half old? My mom has an old machine; she has used it since 2001 and it's still going strong, 12yrs+ later! My brand new (back in 2009) is dead only 3.5yrs! I called a local appliance repairman and he said that he has TEN of these machines with similar problem sitting at the back of his shop. He doesn't bother repairing them because '"It's not worth it". He could've charged me his fee of $70 to come over to take a look, but luckily we have an honest Abe here so... I'm going to give GE customer relations a piece of my mind!

Profile Model: PTWN8050M0WW: Sheila **, my wife and I, Steven **, are very dissatisfied with the product we bought from GE Appliance. First, we are both in law enforcement. Wanted to buy an American product and keep our hard earned dollars in the American economy, only to be upset and find after we made the purchase that the washer was manufactured in China. When we decided to purchase a washing machine, we decided to by a high end product such as the GE Profile for longevity and durability. Again, upset and completely dissatisfied with the GE Profile machine.

At the beginning of May 2013, the agitator broke off from the motor on our Profile. We contacted customer service and they sent out a technician. He was surprised to see the broken part and said he would have to order the parts, which he did. This only inconvenienced us by having to utilize laundromat. My wife, Sheila **, opened a claim with customer service representative Kelsey. Kelsey advised that GE would refund the laundromat investment. The replacement parts were sent to our residence under the name of Ms. **. We have no idea who this person is.

Your technician arrived a week later and installed the agitator, only to find out the Profile washing machine was not filling or draining properly. More parts needed to be ordered. Your technician, at this time, advised to call and demand a full replacement, which my wife did. Kelsey told my wife the technician needed to tell her (Kelsey) about the product replacement. Another week went by, other trips to the laundromat, other parts arrived at our residence and over a week later the technician arrived to try to repair the Profile washer a third time.

Your technician replaced several circuit boards still experiencing a problem. After several hours of working on the Profile and several telephone calls to whomever, he finally told me the GE Profile was wired wrong at the factory!!! Really!!! Several days after your technician did his final repairs, the Profile has been experiencing a problem with the final cycle - leaving the clothes soaked with water. I attempted to contact Kelsey on approximately four occasions, only to get her voicemail... Assisting other customers with their broken Profile???

Besides all the headaches and inconvenience we have experienced through these issues, Kelsey sent us a check for the laundromat made out to Ms. ** and a form letter addressed to Ms. ** closing out our case... Who is this Ms. **? The technician's wife??? Why did we spend one thousand dollars on a GE Profile, only to find out the Profile was not manufactured correctly at the factory? My wife and I could have spent two hundred dollars on a Roper and have more confidence on reliability. My wife and I have absolutely no confidence in the Profile we have right now and demand for GE Appliance to complete a full replacement. Also, what do you want us to do with the check made out to Ms. **???

I bought a GE washing machine about 2 or 3 years ago from Lowe’s. It is a top loader machine. Every time I used the machine, my clothes would come out with a ton of black lint. One time when I put a beige blanket it the machine, I had to use a lint brush to try to get all the lint off of the blanket. However, it didn't work. GE serviceman came to my house twice and they could not fix the problem. One of GE customer service representative told me that GE forgot to put a lint collector in the washing machine. GE also sent me a coupon for $150.00, but I had to use it on another GE product. I didn't use it because I never plan to buy their product anymore. GE told me that they would not replace the washer machine because they have repairmen. But the problem was unfixable. I just got beat out of my money. If you buy a GE Profile washer or dryer, then make sure you buy the extended warranty for it as you will need it! I have had nothing but trouble from this washer, and now the dryer, since the day I owned it. I have had it repaired 3 times in 3 years. Basically the same issue - just won't spin right. This washer is advertised as a high efficiency washer and that you will use less water. Well, it might use less water but it takes three times the electricity as a top load one would. If you want your clothes rolled into a ball, then this is the washer for you! If you want to have to take your clothes out and hand wring them out so it can spin, then this washer is for you! If you want to have it serviced once or twice a year, then this washer is for you! If you want to take 2 hours to wash a load of blankets, then this washer is for you!

I don't know if this is a front load washer problem or if I just got a lemon. But I have to tell you that I would not advise anyone to purchase a GE washer and dryer ever. They do not stand behind their products. When contacted, they just say there is nothing we can or will do. You need to take this matter up with the company that holds the extended warranty. Nice huh! Buyer beware! Steer away from any GE Profile washer and dryers!

It is a High Efficiency (HE) model, thus uses very little water and has only a small agitator action. The issue we have is that every batch of clothes small, medium, or large - colored, whites, towels, etc., comes out covered with lint. It doesn't seem to matter what the conditions of the wash, cycle, time, etc. are - there is lint on the clothes that does not come off when dried! We have read and re-read the instruction manual and troubleshooting tips provided for any hint at what we need to do differently - to no avail. From reviews I've read, GE seems to have a problem with multiple HE models that should warrant some remedy to consumers. Please help us!

After experiencing the problem of having clothes come from a finally completed "washing cycle", the clothes were covered with lint. When I called a trusted repairman (I saw no sense in calling a GE technician), I got the sad news. When I gave the repairman the model # WJRE5550K2WW, the immediate reply was "That's a piece of junk." GE HE Washer Model gtwn5050m0ws - I must agree with the 75% of others who have rated this machine negatively. I've owned this machine for almost 2 years, and it is, hands down, the worst purchase I've ever made. I have been fortunate, only owning 3 washers in my 20+ adult years of living in my own household. The folks at Best Buy talked me into upgrading to this expensive washer from an old-fashioned agitating machine (energy rebate, etc.) when my old washer broke at the worst possible time (the day my son came home from surgery and experienced an emergency, using every towel in the house - Due to this, I had no time to do my usual research prior to making this major purchase).

I had a repairman out in the first two weeks of owning it, as I washed a doormat-sized cotton area rug, and the lint clogged the washer (these washed up well in my old washer). The dispensers are worthless (I only use the fabric softener cup when washing towels, because lovely blue streaks/spatters will appear on any clothing if you use softener). I need to pour my bleach in the washer water once the load starts agitating as the dispenser holds onto some of the bleach, damaging items in the next load you wash (because of this, I always follow up my bleach load with a load of towels to avoid damaging clothing items). The "large capacity" barrel, due to the shorter agitator vs. a traditional one is worthless, as you could never completely fill the barrel or cover the shorter agitator (per the instruction manual) or the load will not get completely wet, and the washer will not operate properly. The load settings are also worthless, as all loads must be washed on "heavy" or they will come out of the washer sopping wet.

I also agree with others that my clothes just do not smell clean - kind of gross. And I paid extra for all these bells and whistles? It's a complete joke! I often stand in front of this machine, counting the days until I can justify dumping it to go buy a good, old-fashioned washing machine that takes 20 minutes to wash a load, not 45+ minutes!

I am truly impressed by Kelly and I do apologize for not giving enough credit to her efforts. It took a while, but we are quite satisfied. My lonely star is only for the washer that, by the way, Standard will come on Friday; deliver a Speed Queen we chose; and take the GE washer. The first day we used it, we noticed that there was very little water and the clothes did not come out clean. Naturally, we thought it was our fault and for about two months, we tried different detergents, settings, etc. but the results were always the same. We tried small loads, twice the detergent and nothing really worked. This is a washer! It was designed to get your clothes clean. It did not do it and obviously is a really bad design. I can go on and on describing everything that is wrong with the machine, but everyone else had already done it. We called the place we bought it from (Standard TV and Appliance in Beaverton, Oregon) and they passed the buck to GE who sent a technician who changed a belt and of course, nothing different happened.

We called again and Standard sent a technician who determined that the washer was fine but since we had a warranty, he will change the infusor. We had to wait almost two weeks for him to come back and replace the part. It did not make any difference at all. We called customer service. We talked to Kelly ** who initially seemed very interested in our dilemma. We explained to her that we did not want a replacement from GE. We just wanted to buy what we originally wanted to buy, a Speed Queen, but we let the sales people talked us out of the option. She said she will help us but ultimately she stopped responding to our calls and finally as a grand gesture, she called me and said she had a great deal and we could buy the Speed Queen for $650. I could not believe her but she was dead serious and told me that it was a great deal.

Standard will come and take the GE and install the Speed Queen and it will cost us only $650. I mentioned to her on a separate message because I never was able to get her on the phone again after several days that that was an insult. The difference in price between the machines were only $116 and we will gladly pay even $200, but to charge as twice for a piece of junk they originally sold to us was not our idea of a good deal. I never heard back from them or GE. The washer is sitting in the garage not being used. I would never buy anything from GE again or from Standard TV and Appliance.

GE Stackable Washer/Dryer GTUP270EM1WW - On Tuesday, 4/23/13, Lowe's delivered this unit to me. I was so excited to get a new washer/dryer! My excitement quickly turned to tears that night when I tried to wash a load of clothes. The washer would only agitate if it was set on the auto sense setting. I tried turning the unit off, moving to a different selection and starting it again. Nothing worked. I read in the manual that it may need to be reset, so I unplugged the unit, waited for two minutes and plugged it back in. I turned the selector to spin only because at this point I just want to get the water out. The washer would spin a few minutes then stops. This happened a few times, then the unit would not spin any longer. There was about 5 inches of water left in the machine.

I called GE and spoke with Jackie. She thought maybe the unit was in demo mode. He had me unplug the unit, wait one minute then plug it back in. Then she had me raise and close the lid 6 times in 12 seconds and put it in a spin cycle. When I pushed start, the lid locked but the unit still did nothing. After trying idea after idea and spent over an hour on the phone, she was stumped. We wrung the clothes out by hand and put them in the dryer. Guess what? It would not heat and the timer would not move! I tried one more time to spin the water out of the machine and nothing happened. I turned the knob to off and the spin light and lid lock light remained lit, so I had to unplug the machine and leave it unplugged.

I called the Lowe's service line and they scheduled a swap. So today they brought me a replacement. The dryer heats! The washer will fill and agitate on all settings! The washer will not pump all the water out. I now have 5 inches of water in the machine and it will not spin or pump water. I called Lowe's again and tomorrow I will go pick out a different brand and they will come pick up this useless one!

We bought our front load washer and dryer about six years ago and have nothing but trouble out of our washer since day one. Clothes never smell clean, and washer is off balance all the time. We have put the cleaning agent in the ad as directed and cannot tell a difference. Our washer has mold around the seal around the washer tub that won't come off. Clothes always smell molded and we have to rinse and spin two to three times before water is out of the clothes, and that does not matter if it is fully loaded or it's just a couple of things in it. Also, no matter what cycle I put it on, it always takes at least 45 min. at the least to wash, and that is the least amount of time that it washes.

Now, my washer will turn on and act like it is going to wash, then kicks off and won't do anything. My GE dryer has started in the last year not shutting off. Clothes will run for hours unless you shut it off. It is a huge fire hazard and I am very disappointed in this set. I was excited when I first bought these appliances. I heard that front loaders were the best. All I have had out of mine is trouble. It was a whole lot of money spent for nothing. This set is not energy efficient at all especially when you have to run the spin cycle two to three times and the dryer never shuts off. My sister and I just moved into an apartment 3 months ago with a new GE washer/dryer combination (model GTUP270EM1WW). The washing machine seems to work OK so far (knock on wood), but the dryer has a loud oscillating-like hum during operation. Also the dryer is destroying our clothes! Beware if you have clothes with a drawstring. We have had drawstrings twisted so bad that it will be partially or totally pulled out of the article of clothing into an extremely tight accordion shape. When you try to straighten the string out, the material has become so hard and brittle that it will break apart. We have both had bras that were twisted so badly in the middle that they tore apart. Also, I had a workout jacket and the dryer broke the zipper pull off.

I spoke to another resident in the building and he informed me that he had problems with zippers being destroyed as well as the buttons on his shirts being torn off. I tried the delicate cycle on the dryer and that did not change anything. I finally had to buy several garment washing/drying bags, which seemed to be doing the trick; however, my sister said that the side seam on one of her garment bags was torn in the dryer. Also, clothes that I felt would be safe to not put in the laundry bag will occasionally come out very twisted with other clothes. Today the zipper pull on one of the garment bags was torn off, which prompted this review.

I am in my 60's and in all my years of washing clothes in personal machines and at laundromats, I have never ever had clothes destroyed like this! This dryer is of poor quality and I am sending this review to Consumer Reports.

This results in clothes, towels, etc. having large unwashed areas! Do not buy this machine. GE Washing machine Model # WBVH5200J1WW Serial #: HR206724T - My husband and I purchased this washer from GE in 2008 and purchased the extended warranty for $100. The warranty ran out in December 2012. The washer broke right after Christmas. I emailed a complaint into GE and they did send a tech on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 to look at it at no charge to us. The tech came in and opened the washing machine. He shook the basket and said, "Just what I thought. The basket is broken." Then gave us an estimate for $529. They told us that we were doing too large of loads of laundry, which is not true. Now they have been in touch with us and stated they will give us the parts for free, but we still have to pay for the labor which is $529.

I am very mad as they are doing nothing for us. We paid $600 for that washer. Why would I pay almost as much to fix it? Also, I come to find out that they do not make that model any longer. I just find it very strange that he knew what was wrong with it as if he has seen it before. I am hoping maybe someone can help us to get this resolved. Thank you.

I have had this washer for a couple of years and notice that it keeps a mold smell all the time. I have to clean it out with Clorox and hot water often so it won't get dirt and smudge on my clothes. I've been washing clothes for 47 years and never, ever have I had a washer that requires you to clean it out like this one. I hate it. I wished they would make them like the old ones were, with the lint catchers on top of the adjectors so you can get rid of the dirt and lint. It makes sense to me. Now the new ones go in holes and molds. I wish I had my old washer back. I never had this kind of problem and my clothes were always clean without having this smudge and grease looking stuff on my clothes. I saw the reviews of other people and my son has a GE. His does the same way. What happened to good washing machines? I don't know what to do next. I think GE should recall all their washers because they don't wash for **.

My washing machine had minor problems with gentle cycle for a couple of months before Christmas. I was having trouble with the clothes being sopping wet with all cycles. I had a serviceman from another company who came out for free and told me that the motor board is malfunctioning and said that it would cost over $250-$300 to fix and that this particular model has had these problems. In fact, a number of people have had complaints about this model. Therefore, I called GE and you referred A&E Factory Service. I was not told of any charge.

When I called A&E, they said that there would be no charge. I waited 4 and half hours and when the technician called, he said that there would be a $75 charge. Then you were closed. The machine is defective. I will let the whole world know. By the way, most companies in El Paso charge about $30-$35 a visit. What a rip off. Thanks for this truly poor service and for not standing by your products. I bought this washer last January. My confirmation number was **. He said he had ordered the part, so the waiting begins. I was told it would only be a 3-day wait for the part and he would be back to fix it. After a week, I called him and he said he was still waiting for the part. So after a few hours, he called me back and said I was not going to be happy because they were telling him my part would not be in until Jan. 14, 2013. This was only on November 26, 2012. I called the company very angry over this as we are not in the summer months, so I needed the dryer. They said they will see what they can do to help me get the part faster.

Well as you can tell, it is Jan. 16 and still no one knows where the part is, when it is coming or even if it is coming. I have been dragging my wet clothes to the laundromat for 2 months, paying extra money out for their dryer; and my gas going there. Besides that, I have back problems so it is hard for me to carry bags of wet clothes. I really feel this is not acceptable. I also had my over-the-range microwave go after just having it for 2 years. I called GE and was told, "Oh well, nothing we can do for you. The warranty was up a few weeks ago." Unacceptable again. I will not be buying their products ever again. I bought a front load GE washer and dryer stack combination. After 4 years, the entire ceramic tripod in the machine fell apart. I was puzzled when my husband took out the drip pan underneath the machine and it was filled with crumbled ceramic. Apparently, ceramic deteriorates if you have hard water - which we do. We called customer service and argued with them that this shouldn't be happening on a $900 machine. After a few weeks, they told us to pick out a new machine and they would give us 50% off - free shipping and installation. Well that was before Thanksgiving. So on Black Friday, I wanted to get the machine at Home Depot because they had a sale of $200 off, which would bring the machine down to $700.

Customer service said that we have to get it straight from the warehouse at a regular cost. When all was said and done, it was 50% off $900. We had to pay shipping and it wasn't even installed. We ended up paying $616 when all was said and done, which really only saved us about $150. Now here's the best part! We got the machine and when it spins out, it sound like a train is coming through the house. We immediately called customer service, which is horrible. They will never give you their last names or extension numbers. We told them we want a new machine, not a refurbished one. They keep insisting on repairmen to come fix it.

Well they have now come to my house 4 times with wrong parts, etc. We are now fighting with customer services, who won't ever call us back, as I have an unusable machine that cost a lot of money in my house. We are taking this further. I am writing letters to anyone I can get an address for and we are probably going to take this to small claims court. Word of advise: Don't ever buy a GE product. They are not what they used to be!

I never hated an appliance as much as I hate this machine (model GHW N 4250 DWW DD 767-816). It takes 45 minutes to wash a load of clothes with a second rinse. My old Maytag never took that long and the clothes in the GE is no cleaner. The GE spins so fast that it is destroying and wearing out my clothes. Everything comes out so wrinkled that the average thing that never came out wrinkled before (like jeans and towels) have to be pressed after coming out of the dryer because the GE mangles and spins everything to death. In order to keep my clothes from being spun to death and worn out, I reverted to washing everything on delicate. I have lace curtains that I have washed many times over the years in my Maytag, but am afraid to put them in the GE as it will rip them to shreds.

When I called GE and complained, they told me there is nothing wrong with the machine and I have no recourse. I bought it in August and I will badmouth GE from now on out. I have had GE washers in the past, then Maytag and then this time back to GE because of the price. I was never so disappointed. I purchased my machine at Home Depot and they have three of the same machines that have been returned because the customers are unhappy. But I passed their 90-day return policy, so I am stuck.

Some areas are impossible to reach and therefore cannot be cleaned. Thus far, we have replaced the rubber housing that is just inside the door due to the mold. This repair was about $250. I have no confidence that items are ever clean due to the mold. The repairman suggested that we leave the door open when not in use and to open the dispenser tray to control the mold. The dealer told us that sometimes GE washers get out of balance and the noise would go away. It did not go away. However, the spin cycle worked. About sixty days into our use of the machine, it stopped spinning with regular loads. I called a technician and he looked at it and listened to it run and told us it was the transmission. We found that hard to believe because we always thought GE was a reliable producer and this machine could not be more than a few years old and the exterior was in such good condition. So we paid for a second opinion only to get the same finding. In our search for technicians, most of the ones we contacted would not work on GE washers. We will not buy another GE product and we will encourage those who ask us to do the same. We have an excellent looking shell that seems to be such a waste to get rid of, but the transmission replacement cost is too expensive.

I had a 4-year old GE front load HE machine that was advertised as being 'top of the line' with a stainless steel drum, etc. It saw maybe “every other day use” and was never overloaded or abused. Last week, my wife informed me she was afraid to use the machine as it had become very noisy and there was a burning smell during the spin/rinse cycle. I found that the drum had about 2 inches of free play. I contacted the GE authorized service, and to their credit, they had an available appointment within two days. The repairman examined the machine and determined that the whole drum assembly (he called it the tripod) would have to be replaced. He was honest enough to tell me that that particular part was poorly made and the replacement part was of the same quality and that in his opinion it would not be worth the money it would cost to fix it. I later took the back off the machine and discovered that the whole support structure for the drum is made out of plastic and found the broken piece from the 'tripod'. I can't fathom that a machine that cost over $800 was so cheaply made. Needless to say, I will never purchase a GE major appliance again.

We purchased a top of the line GE washing machine. It had various problems from the beginning. We have had horrible customer service dealing with repairs. We had 20 different repair visits from GE technicians for 6 months. They have replaced each and every part 2-3 times. I had to call, schedule an appointment, and wait over and over while they replaced every single part. I requested a replacement after the 10 technician visits. It was denied. I stated that it could be any model but the one we have had nothing but problems with. They stated that they never replace products and that it was repairable. It has been a nightmare. The washing machine has never worked correctly or consistently. They finally replaced that machine after the 28th repair visit. They sent a new one, same model. They sent the wrong color, but I really didn't care that it no longer matched my dryer.

On December 1, 2012, it started having serious issues again. A technician came out on December 6, 2012, and stated that it had major problems and was not repairable. We waited for 1 week, hoping for a replacement. I have not been able to use the washing machine at all. It is completely non-functional. When I called 1 week later, they said that they knew nothing and that their repair technician dropped the ball. They would look into it and call us within 24 hours. They never called. They have never returned our phone calls. I spend every lunch hour trying to contact them and see what is happening. Everyday, same answer. "Oh, I don't know. I see something here. Let me look into this and call you back" or "Oh, we are going to try and repair that problem. We will send a technician out."

I will not go through 25 repair visits again. That was overwhelming and never worked. It is almost 1 month later, and we still have no idea if and when we will ever have a functional washer. We have spent thousands of dollars over the years being loyal to GE. I just cannot believe how horrible they have treated us and how upsetting it is not to stand behind their products. I just cannot go through months and months of repair visits, replacement of every part numerous times, and still be going to the laundromat. I just want to wash my clothes in my own home, and we paid top dollar to do that. Unfortunately, they could care less.

I will keep this short and simple. I bought a dryer and washer unit in January 2012. Both the dryer and washer had problems. I kept calling for the repair tech to come and fix, but it's taking him several attempts to come because the machine keeps failing. The longest time I had to wait for the tech to come was about two months because he was supposed to make a rush order for the parts to fix the washer. But I don't think he did. No one had called me to tell me about the part if it was ordered or not. I had to call them several times to check, then they told me the parts were back-ordered so I had to wait a good two months for them. Finally, they came and installed the parts which worked at the time. But the next day, it was broken again.

So I called back the very next day to address to them that the machine is broken again. They said they will send the tech out again to take a look one more time. This time, it's on a Friday from 12:30 to 3:30; he was supposed to call me. I kept on waiting for them to call me before they come, but they never did. So I called back and the lady said he called me but I didn't pick up. So he went on to his next customer. I think these people just don't want to do their job and are making all these excuses and attempts to make their customers think its the customers' fault but in fact, they're not doing what they're supposed to. I am very unhappy with the repair complications and the poor management of this whole ordeal. I would never want to deal with anything like this again because it's a very big hassle for anyone. Therefore, I won't buy a product from GE ever again.

Zero stars because I am more than angry. I purchased a new GE washer (GTWN4250DOWS) this past November 2012. I am fed up with the washer and fed up with GE. My GE uses the new HydroWave technology. The tub does not fill all the way to the top, so I can no longer wash my comforters. My work aprons get tangled in the agitator so bad that I have to call repair to get them to take the machine apart and remove them. When I complained to the repairman about the problems, he told me to take my comforters to a laundromat and to put my aprons in garment bags. The reason I have my own washing machine is so I don't have to go to a laundromat. I did, however, go out and buy two garment bags and the washer ripped the zippers off them. I only used them one time.

If you realize the machine is on the wrong cycle and try to change it, the machine drains the soap and water out and you have to start your wash all over again. My machine cannot be reset, so that this does not happen. The amount of clothes that I use to be able to do in one load with my old washer now has to be divided into two loads. Plus, it takes one hour to do a load of wash, no matter what cycle the machine is set on. The GE repairman and the appliance store where I purchased my machine both blame the Department of Energy for the problems, but GE is the manufacturer and should have designed the machine better. Instead of saving water and energy, I am using twice or three times as much water and energy to do my laundry than I have ever used with any other washer that I have owned.

I have called GE's customer service and gotten nowhere. They told me to call Consumer Relations. That was another waste of time. Again, I got nowhere. I wrote to the Chairman of GE and received a letter from GE's Program Manager who told me to call her at my convenience. I called twice. The first time, I got her voicemail. The second time I called, I got a woman who told me that the Program Manager would be out of her office until Jan. 3, 2013. The letter was dated December 18, 2012. It would have been nice if the Program Manager would have told me that she would be unavailable until Jan. 3rd. For anyone reading this, I would not recommend GE to anyone. This company could care less about customer satisfaction or its customers.

I purchased a mid-priced GE top load washer at the end of Oct. 2012. Within days, it started making a huge banging sound during every spin cycle. About a week ago, I couldn't take it anymore. I opened it up and saw that there was a large bolt sticking up, not holding anything down and then realized that the grey brick counter weight had become detached. I got a neighbor to come over and re-bolt the thing and as soon as the spin cycle started, it stripped again and began very loud banging again. I was very upset, as this was basically brand new.

I called the store where I bought it from and they told me to call 1-800-561-3344, which is the Canada company who looks after the warranty on these GE washers. The first service rep was great. He noted that I live in the middle-of-nowhere, Saskatchewan, and I was hours away from the nearest authorized service place. He told me that I live in the red zone, meaning there is no service available and that they would probably just replace the machine. He told me a manager would call me back.

On December 27, 2012, I got a call from Louis **, who is some sort of customer service manager. He was rude to me and basically told me that because I lived no place near an appliance repair place, I had to load the washer up and take it someplace to be fixed. I am not a young person. I don't own a truck and why should I have to do that? Louis also said to me, "We can't be replacing the machine every time you call in." I had never called in before. I would never buy another GE product because they aren't worth the hassle and their warranty (in rural Saskatchewan anyway) isn't worth a penny. I am very disappointed. What a waste of $650.

I purchased a WJRE5550K2WW washing machine in early 2010 at Lowe's. Being "new technology" (high efficiency) and hydro something design, I was never satisfied. My clothes were ever really clean. Whites were pitiful, but we endured for a year thinking most of the trouble was based on our well water though we use a softener system. After moving to a new home on city water (and softened), we began having issues with mid-cycle stoppages, agitator not working, and finally, failing to spin out. The tub drained, but it seemed the motor would not work sometimes. After calling GE and setting up a $99.95 service call "plus parts", I decided to instead call someone else. We called a repairman through a local dealer, and it became obvious that he was not familiar with the "new technology." After two hours of just poking around and scratching his head, he determined it "could be the main board ($200+) or it could be the motor ($175+) or possibly both ($400+)."

I was not about to put that kind of money into a machine that poorly cleaned clothes anyway, so I began a search on the internet, and voila! GE had published a video of a reset procedure for the kind of symptoms my machine was suffering through. After several attempts at getting the timing right, I was successful in getting the machine reset. It worked for the next four months. Now, it spins out sometimes and often not. I go through the reset procedure and it spins out, but I am tiring of going through this every cycle now. We are looking to replace our washing machine with another more reliably engineered product.

We have used GE laundry equipment for years and even often recommended them to others. No more. Seeing how this model was so poorly engineered and GE closing their eyes to the problem(s), which by virtue of their own release of a video to reset the machine, constitutes an admission that the design was faulty, this tells me they truly do not have the customer's trust anymore. Do they look at the multitude of complaints on this and associated models of washing machines? Do they deliberately manufacture products to fail within a few years? Has company greed gone that far? I hope they discovered the true source of the problems with these defectively manufactured products. I also wish GE executives would do the right thing by those who suffered financially and issue a recall or credit to those who bought this horrifically designed equipment!

When I pulled the back cover off, I noticed the (concrete) counterweight and a piece broke off. The drive pulley was ob-longed on the shaft causing slop and the belt was off, which probably flew off after so much wobbling shaft. I purchased a large capacity top load machine (model GTWN2800D0WW) in July 2012. In September 2012, it flooded my laundry room. Service technician indicated that it required a part that was on backorder and would not be available for several weeks. Consumer advocate supervisor declined my request to refund my money. Instead, he upgraded and sent me a new machine (model GTWN4250DWS). After having machine for two weeks, I noticed that any clothing with a drawstring or extra long sleeves was getting wrapped so tightly around the agitator that they were getting small rips and tears in them. Plus, it was quite difficult and time-consuming to untangle my clothing.

In addition, fabric softener dispenser leaks and leaves stains on my clothing. I have waited today, November 29, 2012, for a service technician for four hours. After he was one hour late, I spoke with a representative, who indicated that he was still working on one call, had another call before me, and then could get to me. Therefore, my waiting time would increase from 8 am-12 pm to possibly 3 or 4 pm. I canceled my service and will contact my attorney, if necessary, to have my money refunded and the unit removed.

My GE Profile washing machine, which was purchased in July 2011, would not spin the clothes dry enough to put in my dryer. We shut off the power button but the machine kept running, so we disconnected the power plug. Later at 4:00 AM, our alarm system went off. We got up to check why it was going off. Water was pouring down into the basement from the upstairs utility room. The utility room was flooded and the water was going down the heating duct, which caused my water heater to short out. We turned the main water system off, but the damage was already done and my utility room was ruined. Should a washing machine 16 months old be doing that? It has caused over $4,000 worth of damages. We will not buy a GE machine again!

We called for service on Monday, November 19th. The repairman came on Wednesday, November 21, but said the part had to be ordered. The machine filled with water, without it even being powered up, and overflowed and ruined my Thanksgiving. Should I contact my lawyer to recoup some of my expenses?

Update to previous entry: My son did tell me several weeks ago that there was sand in the washing drum and small gravel pieces in the drain hose filter (We filter out the lint to keep it out of the plumbing). A salesman told us that it looked like concrete (in output filter) broken down into smaller pieces. We disconnected machine and looked under it, and there is a large circular piece of concrete that is part of the machine, and a piece is missing from the outer edge of it. Has anyone out there had this happen with sand and gravel in their washers?

I bought my machine (WCVH6260FWW) 6 years ago for $850! I know but it was first really high tech machine I bought and it uses less water and less oil to heat the water. When first delivered, it made the noise and GE came through and replaced the whole machine immediately. It has been a nice machine for 6 years, except it seems now that the ball bearings are shot. It could have been misuse on our part. I have been away and my sons have used the machine. I have told them not to overload it and I think they would heed that advice, but I really don't know. The warranty is over. The repairs will cost between $600 and 700. I think I'm just going to scrap it and buy a good, simple, old-fashioned machine if it is available, because we have noticed with dishwashers that the simple ones are no longer available. I'm curious - if a lot of people have this problem and have not overloaded, is it the machine? It has been discontinued now. Is there a class action lawsuit?

We bought a GE frontload washer and we've had it for 5 years. Then, we had to replace the pump; luckily, I found a cheap priced one on eBay. We also didn't know of the filter clean out until a neighbor of mine who bought one found out about it after the repairman took his apart and cleaned it. We have a very loud spin cycle which we set on medium spin speed so the washer doesn't jump around. Our machine also smoked on a spin cycle and pieces of melted rubber show up in our clothes every now and then. The washer also smells like old stinking sour water when it runs, and gets in our clothes. I've read that Whirlpool has a class action lawsuit against them for the same problems of the smell. I wonder if there is one against GE. I see that I'm not the only one with these issues.

My nightmare started on 9/11/12. A GE repairman came to fix my washing machine. I did not have a warranty and it cost me $300.00. As soon as he left, we did laundry and the machine started making noises which sounded like a train was going through our house (I have this recorded it on my phone). I thought since some parts were replaced this might subside. It did not, so I called GE and they sent out another repairman. He told me that the 1st repairman did not tighten some things correctly and it caused damage to another part that he would have to order which would take a week to be delivered. The parts were delivered in the week and another repairman came to fix the machine. Repairman #3 replaced the part, said the machine was fixed then left. I then went to do some wash and again, the machine made the same noise but this time water started to leak into my basement. We then had to cut a hole in our drywall because of the water damage.

I called GE again; they scheduled me for another service call which took another week. Repairman #3 came out again and said there was more damage created by this other repairman and he would have to order more parts to fix it. So again, I waited another week for parts to arrive and another service call but I was told that he fixed the machine enough so it was usable. I washed some clothes, went to check to see if there was any more leaking and again it leaked in my basement so we could not use it. At this point, my husband has been taking our wash to a laundry mat which has cost us to date $140.00. So repairman #3 comes out again and says he has to replace the whole inside of the machine. He ordered about 8 more parts that are now sitting around my house. Repairman #3 was supposed to show up to repair my machine last week but never did because he claimed he didn't have the right tool to repair the machine and had to order it!

Long story short, there had been 9 service calls to my house by 3 different repairmen and my machine is still not fixed! And it's been almost 3 months since the 1st repairman ruined my machine. I have talked to Consumer Relations many times with at least 13 different people. This past week, I have requested a new machine as I don't even know if fixing the machine now will be viable. I have had to sit at home 9 different times (countless hours wasted) to wait for repairmen, I have to get my basement repaired, and I still have to spend money to do my laundry. Not to mention the waste of time I have had to call Consumer Relations and explain my situation over to at least 18 different people in the past 2 months. I still, as of this date, do not have a fixed washing machine and continue to get the runaround from this company. I want a new machine, money reimbursed for our laundry and money to repair the damage done to the basement. Thank you.

The washer doesn't clean worth a darn, started making this loud screeching sound and leaks water. So, I called a repair person to come in and the transmission gear is gone. I am spending way more money on my electric bill due to the fact that it takes two hours to dry towels because they are so damp going in. Energy-efficient washer? I think not! I only wish I had read these consumer reviews before I purchased it. The techs coming in to repair have told me not to buy GE as they make the worst appliances - good to know for the future. We purchased a GE front load HE washer model GCVH6600H1GG about 4.5 years ago. The matching dryer is fine. The washer was flawed from the beginning. It looked great but lots of rocking, shaking and noise. We made the mistake of replacing the pump (about $240) and what might have contributed to that is there is a secret filter under the front cover that they don't tell you about, but you need to clean out every few months. We did not replace the front door, which was cheap plastic that was cracking, which would have cost another $300+. The parts could not be found in Canada for less than $219.

And then only two weeks after the pump, we had the most serious failure of a washing machine anyone has ever seen. My wife came home to smoke pouring out the back. The repair person figured that the bearings had failed or that the T-bar broke. Not worth anyone's time to open it up. It had singed the rubber seal around the front of the drum. Lucky that nothing set fire. This model is a serious lemon. If you see it used, don't buy it. If it is broken, don't bother wasting your money. I'm leaving this message here should someone Google the model number.

GE Profile Washer WHRE5550K2TWW - I purchased a brand new GE Profile clothes washer in June 2010. I have a family of 3, so the loads are not over the top. 2 weeks ago on occasion, the machine started operating out of sequence. It would spin at the time of filling. Then, it would agitate at the time of drain and spin. Then two days ago I could not get it to spin at all. A local repairman came out and diagnosed the problem as the control board (mother board) and the motor. Parts alone would be close to $400 (which is the price I paid for it brand new) not counting labor. I was informed that the motor going out within two years is a very chronic problem as the motors are made outside of the USA - in Mexico, Indonesia and some in China. The motor alone is worth 75% of the value of this appliance and it can't hold up past 2 years?

I went online and did some more research and it appeared that there are hundreds of complaints on the same issue(s). The repairman said that he has had 6, this month alone, with nearly the same issues but the underlying issues are always the same, the motor and the control board. He said everything is electronic including the motor. I am a 3rd generation GE consumer, but no more. They may "bring good things to life", but they obviously can't make a basic washing machine last longer than 2 years.

I purchased a GE top loading washer about 10 months ago. I have had GE washers in the past (like 10 years ago) and was very pleased with them. This new one is a piece of junk taking up space in my laundry room. The tub is inconsistent as to how much water goes in, sometimes it's barely enough to wet the clothes; other times it overflows all over the floor. But the main problem is the rinse cycle. It has something called a "rain shower" and the dirty water will drain out but not spin at all, so dirty water is left in the clothing. A 15-second fill of water occurs and then the tub will agitate for 15 seconds. That's it, that's your rinse cycle. The clothes smell dirty and don't feel clean. I finally got smart and now, I wash the clothes and let the cycle complete. I then put the machine on another wash cycle without detergent. A total waste of water but at least my clothes are clean. I will never purchase another GE washer or appliance until GE replaces this piece of crap.

I bought a GE front loader washer about 3.5 years ago. It would always rock and slam back and forth. I took it off the riser and this did nothing. I called out for a repair. The repairman said it looked like a shock problem and replaced it, but it had just passed the year warranty so I had to pay for the repair call. It never stopped going off balance and two days ago, the transmission appears to have failed. I called GE and they told me of the recall two years ago. They said they were building a case on my problem and then referred me to the department to schedule the recall repair. They said not to use the machine because a thermal event could occur. I asked about the other problem (transmission) and was told that they were not certain if I would have to pay for the visit with regard to the new problem. I stayed on the line for literally 45 minutes and no one picked up to schedule the repair visit.

I called back two more times, each time staying on the phone about 30 minutes and still no one would pick up so that I could schedule the repair. I cannot believe how abysmal their product is and how terrible their response is to customers. There clearly is a problem because a major distributor is not selling front load GE washers. A salesman at the same major distributor told me, "I try to steer customers away from any GE appliances with moving parts." I bought a new washer tonight. It is a Samsung. I sat in front of it prepared for it to start walking and rocking. It did not. I was so used to hearing my GE washer making terrible sounds and slamming when it spun at high speeds, that when I saw my new Samsung spinning at a tremendous rate of speed with no problems, I was quite literally shocked. I yelled to my wife to watch it. I was so impressed.

My old washer is in my driveway. I am going to get the recall fixed, and then take it to the dump. It is waiting for the repairman. I figure that I could at least waste GE's time and money on a free repair since they have wasted about $1,000 of mine and created countless arguments between my wife and me. I also thought I could turn it on its side and make a planter out of it or turn it into a home for two stray cats that hang around my yard. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I may very well sleep on the floor of my laundry room tonight, listening to the sweet silence of my new Samsung washing machine. If I were small enough, I would crawl up inside of it and go for a swim. I love my new Samsung washing machine.

Did you know that the plastic balancer that goes around the clothes tub is filled with acid? GE doesn't want to offer any help with my question why there is a corrosive liquid in a household appliance that is not needed. One said it's filled with saline solution and another said that I had no right to open a factory sealed part. My thought is that GE is so big that they have come up with a way of getting rid of old acid by putting it in to a very thick well-made rings that are almost indestructible so they just go to trash yards. Sounds like the love canal and a place not too far from me found drums underground at an expressway bridge site under construction.

Please someone help me get info on getting this company to stop it. And it would be nice to get a new pair of shoes and pants it ruined, not to say I was walking on my carpet in my house, and walked the whole way across my grass as it emptied to recycle bin. I pulled it out this morning and there is a little bit of acid left in it. Trust me, my tongue and stained penny tells me it is acid. Please help. So one woman tells me they recycle their old machines by getting release forms and that they were disposed of (that's crap). Look how many you see on the side of the road. If you put a product in people's homes, you better have stickers all over each part saying what it contains. This economy is driving folks to scrap for income and the government needs to know that there are products in every home that kills everything from drinking water to our sight. Help please.

When our washing machine was delivered, we called saying we were struggling with not having enough water in the tub to wash the clothes, but we were told that it was normal and to read the directions. If we wash two or three items, it's fine but anything more than that, there's not enough water. After calling several times, ABC sent someone out. By this time, my husband has done everything he could to make the washer run properly. We were told by the repairman to raise the hose because the water was draining out of the tub. We did that and to this day there is not enough water in the tub and our clothes and towels continue to smell like mold. I clean the wash machine with the special cleaner, but it doesn't take a genius to realize the clothes are not being washed in water because there's not enough in the barrel.

My husband adjusted the holes so it's not draining out, but the washer is no good! We shared this many times with ABC Warehouse. Now, a year has passed and I know this because they called last week and asked us if we would like to purchase a warranty for our washer! I asked them what they mean by this. I've been telling them since day one that I don't want the washer! They said, “Well, it's been under GE, so that's why you didn't get any support and help with your washer. We will help you with no cost and you can pick out a new one if you buy the warranty!”

GE, did you even know we the consumer were totally dissatisfied with your product? Several times per day we are living with the mold smell not only switching our laundry and trying to get rid of the smell with bounce, but now we have to buy a new washer when this one is just a year old. We went into the store to talk to a salesperson and we were told it's normal to have a little water. We were asked, “Are you loading it right?”

We are totally frustrated with this HE washer. If we purchase a new one, there's no way we would even give this one away. Please consider looking up our records at ABC Warehouse in July of 2011 and please let us pick out a new washer. Right now we are not pleased at all. You wash your face and then dry your face with a towel that smells like mold. We are not happy at all and getting more frustrated as our clothes smell more and more! No, we do not want an attorney involved in this manner, but we do know that GE has been around for years and have earned a great deal of respect from many people! We have expressed concern from day one about our HE washing machine and have gotten no support! Thank you for reading my letter of concern!

I bought a GTWN3000MOWS washing machine from Lowe’s in September or November 2010. I went back to the store and told the salesman that sold it to me that it made loud noises when it changed gears during the wash cycle. He said that was just the machine and it would work its way out - not to worry. Well, I am worried. I had a used washer and dryer for 5 years before I bought a new one. And I decided to, just in case, buy a new one when I got enough money saved. Well, now my machine will not spin out all the water and I have to re-spin the cycle and the loud noises are still there. It is so loud I can hear it on the other side of my house when I am watching TV and it really upsets me that I trusted my salesman when he told me that it was just the machine and not to worry. I did not get an extended warranty because I have never had any problems with a washer or dryer before.

When I went back to Lowe’s and complained a couple months after I bought my W&D, the salesman said not to worry and it was a good machine. So, I trusted him. I trusted Lowe’s not to sell me a defective product. Now, I worry every time I wash my clothes if it will be my last load. I am disabled and on a very fixed income and I really don't need the extra stress of worrying about my washing machine breaking down on me. My dryer works great; it's just my washing machine that is defected.

I wish I had kept my old washing machine and dryer. I sold it to my neighbor's daughter and she is very happy with my old one and it still works great. I feel like GE should just fix them without all the extra expense of warranties. I have been washing clothes for over 40 years and never had a problem ever. I never overload and I never use too much laundry detergent. Sometimes, my clothes still have soap in them and I have to wash my clothes all over again to get it all out. I will never buy anything GE again!

I called the consumer line to file a complaint about the product. So they wanted to send a tech out to check it, and they did. The tech came out and explained what had happened, and I told him what the fire department said also. The fire department called to see what happened about the issue. The tech was saying how much the replacing parts were, which by that time you can buy a new one. So in the effort of GE wanting to help, they only offer me a prorated amount for a machine I paid over $1,000 for and the pedestal that goes under it. I have the dyer also. It's ok. So all your products are only supposed to last 5 years, and that's it. For the kind of money, it should give at least 10 years. I had the extended warranty on it, and they had come out a few times after buying the appliance. I've already had broken shocks replaced once about 8 months after purchase. Many times, I have to put on the spin/rinse cycle after the first cycle didn't rinse or spin. I cry almost every time I use it! I have a family that’s always on the go. This washer has no recourse for its biggest problem an extra spin. So many times, my clothes come out still drenched with water, especially my towels. Well, in order to spin out again, I must do a rinse and spin cycle, which is like washing another load again. Don't tell me the soap must be getting on the clothes, causing the sensor not to work. I already had someone up and they told me if so much as a drop of soap or softener falls out of the dispenser, it causes problems to spin cycle.

How many washers out there don't have a separate spin cycle? If I do a hand washable, I cannot put it in my junk washer to give it a quick spin unless I do about a 45 minute rinse and spin cycle. If I wasn't out so much money, I would take an ax to this. I am married 31 years and my husband has always stood a strong GE consumer but as far as I feel, I am seeing red! I have never liked GE products but the builder who built our home went with GE products for everything. Today, May 12, 2012, I was doing some jeans and khaki shorts in the washer. I was folding clothes when all of a sudden, I heard what sounded like a bomb exploding in the laundry room. I went to the laundry room to find smoke, dust and the front door on my washing machine wide open. The tub on the inside had literally exploded.

The metal tub, the fiberglass encasing, hoses and wires were everywhere. It exploded out where all four sides and the top had dented outward and even dented the dryer which was right next to it. The dryer will not work now as well due to being dented in on the side next to the washer. GE tells me that there is nothing they can do except send a repair man out to fix it, but it will cost us $79 just to have a repairman come out.

We will have to pay for everything because it is not under warranty. It exploded so bad that it even dented the wall as well. There is no way to even repair this. I have never seen anything like this in my life. I actually took a bunch of pictures as well. It was damaged so bad that it even ripped and punctured several jeans and shorts that were in the washer. The GE repairman came out and "fixed" it, got it going again, and left. This machine has a tendency to go off balance no matter how much or how little you fill it. I had to call GE probably 3-4 more times to have it fixed. One repairman told me not to fill it to capacity! Another one forgot to hook up the water hoses before he left! The back legs on the machine broke off and we had to put a piece of wood under the back of the machine to help keep it balanced (which of course didn't work). This machine makes so much noise when it goes off balance that it's frightening and sounds like a train going through the basement.

I'm 67 years old and I ultimately fell down the stairs trying to get to it before it did too much damage. At this point I refused to do the laundry - my husband had to do it. They replaced the machine (Bray & Scarf, Bethesda, MD). This one leaves scum on my clothes, so I always use second rinse (does not save water). The cycle is eternal. I use the correct amount of H.E. liquid. It must use more energy than our old regular machine - it runs twice as long. Also, sheets or towels are so twisted at end of cycle you can barely get them untangled to go in the dryer. My husband says they smell. I blame the washer. I follow the directions on the washer perfectly.

Our washer has automatic water fill, so I have no control over that. I just bought two pairs of expensive black pants and a pair of dark brown ones. You can't imagine how horrible they looked with scum on them after using a short, hand wash cycle. I just put them back in to wash again without detergent to see if the scum comes off. I would give anything to have my non-H.E. washer back. I'm convinced it was more energy efficient and cleaned better than this one. The only thing good about this one is it is quieter. I mean really, if I always have to use a second rinse and rewash certain clothes, what is the point? Thank you for letting me vent.

I told her I already have a qualified technician look at it from Sears and she got smart and said, "Well, he can't offer you a five-year warranty on replacement parts."

So they will give you a five-year warranty on replacement parts but only one year on a new washer. So I guess GE builds their products to go out after a year so they can charge you to come fix it. They will charge you for the parts and labor what it would cost you for a new washer, but you will get a five-year warranty. I bought my house four years ago and bought all GE appliances, but I just purchased my last GE brand.
