I bought this piece of junk at Metro Appliance in Tulsa, OK. After one month, the motor goes out. I called them and they don't want to talk about it. I said when I bought it a technician would be out to our house to fix it if anything happened to it. Lies! I couldn't get anybody to come here to work on it. It's been about a month without a washer. Don"t buy from Metro Appliance! They just want the money! This is going to be the last GE product in this house!

There are balance issues, cycle is too long, and it started pausing every 10 minutes and lasts 7 minutes. It stops and you have to switch to drain and spin before you put in the dryer. Dryer takes over an hour to dry a load of towels. According to reviews, every owner hates this machine. Class action, anyone?

GE top load washer (model number GLWN5050MOWS): The water level is not high enough on any setting. Clothes come out twisted and tangled, and the clothes are still dirty in the cracks and crevices left by the tangled clothes. This product is not worth buying at any price. I tried for 6 months to adjust to it. I took it back to Lowe's, but they could not/would not let me exchange it for another washer or get a refund. On a scale of 1 to 10, this product is a zero. I am through with GE products.

I purchased 3 GE front load washers and 2 dryers in 2010 for myself and daughters. I have never been more disappointed in a product by GE. I have purchased many GE appliances, but this has turned me to never, I mean never, buy a GE product again. My one daughter had to have the door gasket replaced at the cost of $350.00. The balance on all 3 washing machines are terrible no matter how many times you re-balance and lock the legs in. The clothes get oil marks on them especially dark colored t-shirts and no matter what soap I use, it continues. Other owners have told me they have the same problems. I think they should recall all their front load washers until they can produce a product that is suitable for resale and works properly. I also have a refrigerator that is useless and very loud, does not stay cool and crisper drawers only rot veggies. I hope this stops someone from being ripped off by GE's lousy products. Give it up GE if you can not produce a reliable product.

I bought GE washer in 2008 from hhgregg. In less than 2 years, the washer overfilled and caused 15,000 dollars worth of damage to my home. After writing a letter to one of the upper people at GE, my washer was replaced. Same thing has happened again, twice. Casing water damage enough to have Sev-pro come out and set up fans and dehumidifiers up for 3 days to dry everything out. I will never buy GE products again. I would love to be contacted by GE to hear what they have to say.

GE front-load washer with model number WCVH6600HWW: It's constantly unbalanced and just started smoking like it was going to start a fire. I thought it was a belt that had worn out (Maybe?). But I opened the door, and the smoke rolled out of the drum. Our clothes smelled like burned rubber (NASCAR anybody?). Also, there's shaking and moving with the unbalanced issues. Then, clothes need to get re-rinsed and spun to help remove excess soap and water.

In 2007, when our 25 year old GE washer sprung a leak for the second time and could no longer be repaired, we bought a matching GE Profile Washer and Dryer. The washer is King size and has a knob indicating capacity for Extra Large and Super Size loads. It is also marketed as Energy Saving. However, since it doesn't rinse the clothes properly, leaving them soapy and wet, I must run an extra 18-minute rinse cycle. So I don't think I'm saving either energy or water.
Whereas I could wash almost anything in my old GE washer, this one doesn't handle small floor mats or winter blankets, presumably because they are too heavy. The inner workings are made of plastic and immediately fail. After several visits from Sears Repair, I had the inner tub and supports replaced. But they told me I have to take all my floor mats and big blankets to the Laundromat and spend time with the neighbors who don't have their own wash equipment in their homes. I don't find I have the opportunity to do this often enough.
Fortunately, I bought a 5 year warranty from Sears and so it hasn't cost me anything additional but I still need to take time off from work and the time to have it repaired. However, next year my warranty will run out. I am afraid I will have to get rid of the washer shortly after that.
Someone needs to figure out what is going on and fix it. Did the government regulations force GE to alter the product design so that it no longer can handle the work it was intended to do (as one woman in your listing suggests)? Or is it a combination of GE trying to squeeze every penny out of the customer combined with government legislation written by people who don't know how to build a washer? I suspect both are at fault. I would like your organization to go after both of them and get them to fix this mess.

The washer and dryer is a combo sold by Best Buy. The washer does not spin the clothes well enough. They are still very wet when the cycle stops. The washer also does not rinse well because soap suds are still in the clothes when the cycle is done (note: I make sure to use the recommended amount of detergent). The dryer trips the circuit quite often and often just fails to operate in the middle of a drying cycle. I have to take out the wet, heavy clothes and take them to the laundromat to dry them.

We purchased a GE front-load washer and a dryer from Home Depot. We have had multiple problems where the washer unit has a very loud noise when the unit goes into spin cycle. The unit has been balanced and checked multiple times, but the inside drum and suspension acts as if the unit is off balance. The authorized repair persons that come out to access the situation run it through a test cycle without clothes, which does not duplicate the problem. We have continued to stress that we would like to run a load of clothes and/or towels that will duplicate the problem. They have refused to do so. We have had four different repairmen come out, after we have called GE, that want to run the same test cycles without clothes, which does not duplicate or uncover the problem. One of the repairmen said you can only run the washer if you have a full load of clothes or towel—ridiculous! Nowhere can we find that in the paperwork nor was I told of this at the time we bought the units.
The second issue we have is the soap in the soap dispenser will drain into the tub unit and will not stay in dispenser if set for a delayed wash cycle. The repairmen did not offer any explanation or attempt to correct this. Our son has the same exact unit as well and does not experience any of the problems we have. I’m very dissatisfied with GE's washer and their authorized repair personnel. All we have ever asked was the unit be repaired to a workable condition. If this cannot be done, then they need to replace with a unit that works properly. We have bought GE products in the past, but this experience has really soured us enough to think twice about buying their products in the future.

I purchased the GE Washer Model WCVH6800J1WW in September 2009 from a local appliance store. The washer was delivered and installed by the people from the appliance store. We have been trying to get this washer either repaired or replaced since the first time we used it! No matter what we do, the washer does not spin out properly.
The spin cycle will begin, then it will stop, then it will start again, then it will stop and start again, then repeat. It will eventually manage to complete the spin cycle but it takes two to three hours for each load of laundry. We've tried all different combinations and amounts of clothing. It makes no difference. We've had the repair people from the appliance store here to try to get it fixed. They cannot get the machine to work any better than we can, yet they just tell us that we are not loading the washer properly and there's nothing wrong with the washer.
We had a front load washer previously and had no problems with using that washer for over ten years. I think we know how to use a front load washer. The problem is a lemon of a washer, not how we are using it, but we can't get the appliance dealer, who is an authorized GE dealer and repair agency to take responsibility and do anything about a brand new washer that is a piece of junk!

In less than a month, I have had to call the repairman 4times! Apparently, the clutch had gone the first time. It would not spin. The second time the repairman came out, it was again due to the fact that it would not spin or agitate. He replaced the lid switch. It worked for about 2 loads, and started the same thing. The third time we called, he told my son that it must have been a defective lid switch. After 3 loads, again it would not spin!
I have the extended warranty with Sears. You would think it would be considered a lemon if you had to call for a 4th time in less than a month! I am hoping that this happens, and I can get a new one. I will never buy a GE again! It is just junk! A washer should not present such a problem for being 2 years old! Not only is it a pain to have a repairman come out so often, it also messes with people's time from work, or their regular routine. If there is ever a consumer lawsuit against GE, let me know.

I purchased a GE front loading washing machine after my top loading machine died on its second birthday. It was a Maytag. I called Home Depot and explained to the manager the problem. She agreed it should have lasted a lot longer and said a replacement would be sent out. I asked to upgrade to a front loader and was advised to purchase the GE. I was so happy that I did. We are a retired couple and I feel our laundry is very light therefore, I thought the upgrade to the GE would have meant many years of service. I was shocked to find out the bearings were out and not worth the repair cost. I also do not believe in the so called extended warranty. Most people can't afford them and I believe if the product is from a good company, it is a cost that is not needed (I thought).
I called GE and asked why I should purchase another GE washer and if someone could tell me how long I could expect a new one to last. Didn't get an answer, but was told to go on the internet and compare. Of course, I didn't get a name of the rep that I talked to. I was upset and at that point, I didn't even care.
My front loader has been hauled away for junk. I watched it being loaded into the truck. I was very sad and once again, a very expensive mistake. Can you tell me why I would or should even think about purchasing any GE products in the future? My dishwasher of 19 years is ready to give up. Please give me a good reason why I should buy a GE, or even consider it. I did attempt to wash my mattress cover on "Extra Heavy" but not enough water came in and it came out with so many black soot marks and black lint that I had to toss it. I'm not sure where those could have come from. The machine is only about a year old.

After the first year of use, we started noticing an article or two of clothing coming out of the wash with a stain or two on it. It was sporadic, but we checked our owner’s manual for suggestions. We cleaned out the fabric softener dispenser and have done so on a regular basis since then.

I purchased a GE washer front load and matching dryer with pedestals on 12-18-09 (model number WCVH6800J1WW). I paid $2,033.59 on 1-25-12 (2 years later). I found 4" of water in the pedestal drawer of the washer. I called for repairs, as I had a 5 year warranty (I actually had 1 yr from GE, and thought I was purchasing 5 additional years, but actually got 4 additional years).
The repairman from A & E factory service came and repaired it. He said the leak was from a cracked 'water inlet' piece, from soap dispenser into tub, that cracked due to an unbalanced load. There was heavy jarring from a blanket or bath mat, which makes an unbalanced load. He said when it cracks, it leaks right away. I was washing an ordinary load of clothing that day, not a blanket, and it cracked. The plastic piece had a very thin top around the gasket, so no wonder it cracked. If it were made of a flexible material, it would have been better.
He then informed me that although I had a warranty, that particular piece was not covered, even though my warranty said parts and labor for 5 years. So I said, next time you come and it's something else, you could say sorry that piece is not covered as well. He then informed me that you can never wash a blanket, or bath mat, even though the booklet that came from it, says you can. Only wash sheets with sheets, shirts with shirts, or light pants, and towels with towels. You can never mix light clothing with heavier clothing. This would require all sorts of different loads to be washed. It does not make much sense to me. So now, I must take my blankets to a laundry?
I have heard that mold can grow in the door and under the gaskets of the washer, causing horrible odors in washer and on clothing. So I never close the door to the washer. After washing, I wiped the water under the gasket. So far, there is no odor. Here's what the problem is, our grand government, the EPA(Environmental Protection Agency), makes all the rules for energy, water saving, etc. They require the manufacturers to make products that no longer are able to do the job they were designed to do, but you save energy and water. This is not so. If I have to wash several loads, instead of one, where is the water and electric saving? The EPA also make the rules for toilets, low water, so some require 2 flushes. Where's the saving of water?
I have had, in the past, 3 Insinkerator hot water dispensers on my kitchen sinks. They lasted exactly 10 years. The new one I purchased at $125, lasted under 3 years. The tank under the sink leaked water. I came within days of the manufacturer's warranty. The repairman installed a new tank under the sink. I asked why it lasted not even 3 years. His reply, the EPA made them take out a piece of 'something' (bad for the environment), and now the unit lasts 3 years tops, not the usual 10 years.
I'm afraid this is our future. From this point forward, we will never really be sure of our appliances lasting, or doing the job it was designed to do. I hope you 'green' people, the global warming suckers realize what a hoax have been perpetrated on us, all under the umbrella of 'environment protection'. You will be replacing appliances, and paying a higher price for everything as well.

Our washer and dryer had had multiple problems. Before Christmas the machine broke again. We contacted GE and we scheduled an appointment for someone to come see the machine. They came and said we needed a new timer. We ordered the timer and scheduled an appointment to fix that. They came back and said that the belt is broken. We ordered the belt and scheduled another appointment. They came again and said that there was a broken nut and bolt that was very large and clearly broken. At this point I had had enough. I contacted customer service and they agreed to send us a brand new machine free of charge. They had someone contact me to choose the new machine. They asked me "is your machine electric or gas?” I said, "I believe it’s gas because it has tubes coming out the back but I don’t have the machine in front of me to tell you; maybe you can look it up being that you’ve serviced the machine 6 times now." They look it up and said, "The machine is electric, please chose from two options.”
I chose a machine and they said the dispatcher would contact me to schedule an appointment to deliver and take the old machine away. They did a week later and we scheduled the appointment for 7 am today 1/20/2011. They delivered the machine and it turns out the machine is a gas machine after all. So I called GE to reschedule and get the correct machine. After waiting hours for them to call me back and without response from the person who was supposed to be working on this case, Stacy, whom I contacted by phone and email, they give me a phone number. The number is for Home Depot. Home Depot forwards me back to GE. GE forwards me back to Home Depot. Home depot once again forwards me to GE who says that we are supposed to contact consumer affairs. I told her I did and she said they have to help you with this and they are only available Monday-Friday (9-6 pm). At this point it is 6:18 pm. I will be going on another week without a machine.
This is completely unacceptable. I don’t understand how you can treat consumers this way. It is horrible and I will never purchase and appliance from GE again. I live in a condo and they are all brand new units. I will be talking to the board about this issue because there are a few other condos who are having problems with their washer and dryers and I will make sure that you hear from them as well. I will make sure that Timberridge is aware about how you treat your customers. If there is one thing they don’t like it is unhappy buyers and poor reviews on the appliances they have in their new condos.

GE Energy Star Top Load Washer model # GTWN505MWS, serial # AV134045G: It was delivered from Home Depot on Jan. 26, 2010. The product did not wash clothes clean on day one. Lint and dark spots were left on clothes. HE laundry soap was used. I tried different HE products, sizes of loads, and sorted clothes. It never came out clean. I installed a house water system with 1 micron filter plus a new water heater - temp set at 140. The clothes were still not clean.
I went back to Home Depot and complained about the machine. I was given GE’s number. I called for service after 3 months. I was told I would have 2 weeks after service to determine if the service was effective. I was going away and cancelled the service call due to their time restrictions. I returned from extended stay and tried new water filters, different water temps on cycles, and smaller loads, but nothing worked. It ruined more clothes.
I called for service. GE was happy to send service. The serviceman arrived today and greeted me with, "Let's go see what you are doing wrong." We proceeded to the basement and he asked me to "demonstrate putting a load of wash in" (I have managed a front load commercial laundry system from 1979 and own one since 1985). He proceeded to tell me “You did it wrong. You never put the soap in first. You put the clothes in first." I pointed to the top load lid and read the instructions to him. I was doing it right.
He said the machine was "siphoning" the water out and I needed to put an "anti-siphoning" valve on my washer drain line. I asked him to show me where it states that in the manual. He was not able to find that. We were told we would be billed $59.00 plus for the service call since it was not warranty work (less than 1 year old and under full warranty). The only way it would be covered is if I call him and tell him it still didn't work (he did not have the parts or offer to install the system himself).
I had the anti-siphoning valve installed by another service man at my expense today (parts and labor $100.00). I then washed one load and it came out looking worse than when the clothes went into the washer. I did a quick rinse on the load. There was no change. I rewashed the entire load in heavy and hot, and lint was still on clothes after the added 2nd rinse. We are now talking 4 hours of washing one load to get clean. Yes, the water for rinse does not even fill the holes in the bottom of the washer during the final 3 rinses. The amount of water that flows in during this period is for only 30-40 seconds before it drains out without agitating. My drain was not siphoning the water.
GE thinks this will clean clothes. GE, Home Depot, and the GE serviceman deny having any problems with this GE model. I have taken photos of clothes with residue and peeled lint of the clothes. The serviceman, my husband, and I observed the lack of water in the system plus no agitation in the rinse cycles. GE and the serviceman will be called again tomorrow.

My mother-in-law bought a new GE Wavetech washing machine, model number WCRE6270H1CC. She was complaining of it banging when it should be washing. I checked it out and apparently the clutch system had failed, causing the machine to try to agitate the clothes with a stuck clutch.
Realizing it was something that needed a professional to address, I called and had it looked at. I was told the "Mode Shift Coil" was bad. True enough, the coil was open (an open circuit, non-functional). The repairman said he could fix it but it would cost between $335 and $400 to fix. I decided I would try to find the part myself.
Apparently there have been numerous complaints about this machine having the same problem. As I disassembled the unit, I discovered that I could remove the clutch coil itself. However, GE does not sell just the coil, rather, you must buy the assembly at an average cost of $125.
Being experienced with electronic motors, I realized there might be a "fuseable link" internally that may have gone out. I had to cut the riveted body of the clutch coil to gain access. Upon inspection, I found the coil was in pristine condition, the only thing that failed was the fuseable link.
That link can be bought at a local electronics outlet for less than two dollars.
As in my experience with manufacturing, that particular part is on the order of cost about 2 cents each (guessing). Nevertheless, it is the weak link in the system.
I replaced the link with the one I bought at XXXXX and the washer is working fine. In fact, I'm willing to bet it will never have that problem again.
$2.00 versus $335 for a repair? GE has quite a racket going on with this one.
One further comment, in my search for parts, I discovered that model number WCRE6270H1CC is common with many more models with the last four characters changing from C's to D's, all using the same clutch assembly, and likely the same cheap 2 cent part.
GE should make good on this. But if they don't, I fixed my washer for less than $2.00. Go figure! GE should have a recall to fix the defective part.
Working as an inspector nearly 30 years in the manufacturing electronics industry, their Receiving QC department should have done tests on the component to determine if it can withstand 130 degrees Celsius at 2 amps current at the same time. My bet is it wouldn't pass QC testing.

I called because it died again; the service company said that they figure the problem was the pulley and would order it. By 8 months, the mold smell was horrible. I peeled back the gasket and there was mold all around. From then on, I alternated with bleach and vinegar. I called the warranty company and they said they never heard of such a problem and to just keep spraying it with bleach. Fast forward 3 years and bottles of bleach and vinegar later, the laundry room smells of mold as well as all of our clothing. My husband now has an inhaler and has been coughing and seems to have a cold all the time since Dec 2008.
I recently called the consumer relations for GE. They said they can get us the gasket at 1/2 off . I went ahead and purchased it but haven't had it repaired because it will cost us over 100.00 to have them repair it. The repair man that came out just looked at the gasket and said it needed to be replaced but didn't take the time to see if mold was elsewhere. I have had constant headaches beginning 4 weeks after we purchased it. Been to a neurologist and ended up finding out in the beginning of 2010 from an allergist that, I'm allergic to mold which in turn could be the result of the headaches. Was so hoping they would replace the washer but they won't. Any one know of any good Product liability attorney?

The water (and clothes) smell, the washer shakes so bad when it is spinning, my detergent fell off the top of washer when in spin cycle. This week I put a load of clothes in and left the laundry room, within 5 minutes, my laundry room was filled with smoke. I pushed the power button off, opened the door and the smoke poured out. I bought a GE Profile Washer, model WPRE6150K2WT, in 2010. This was touted as a high-efficiency, water-saving model. It does not get things being washed cleaned. In fact, there is often more dirt on the things being washed when they are removed after the complete cycle. It just does not rinse and remove dirt well. The "low water use" claim is a sham because more water is needed just to get the dirt off, if you're lucky. I wrote to the manufacturer to complain. They responded with a list of problem solving solutions to the "lint" problem. This was not just a lint problem but soil and other residue.
However, the list covered not using too much powdered detergent (which I don't use at all), separating lint producing items from lint collecting items. My personal favorite: "Water level: Setting the water level switch to a higher setting than needed will cause linting due to excessive movement of the clothes in the water." Well, I should have been suspicious in the showroom of a washer like this that featured three separate second rinse settings. Believe me, they are much needed because the first rinse often does not do the job. Sometimes, the second rinse does not do it either and so, back it goes through the whole cycle again.
Energy efficient? Not at all. This is false advertisement of energy efficiency and this should be stripped of its stars. I am not a novice at this. I have had Kenmore, Magic Chef (believe it or not) and Whirlpool over the years. This is my first, and last, GE washer. This was a bad buy that I must live with. I use much more water than ever before. I am writing this complaint because I believe that they have pushed off a product that does not do what they say it will. False advertising.

The repair person was back again. On September 2011, the washing breaks down again. This time, it's the belt and the gasket (which was already replaced in the first breakdown, but because it was under warranty and I didn't pay for it, it is not warranted now), and a $488 bill.
I paid $600 for the machine. I argued with GE and they gave me 50% off for parts and service. So now, I have a $244 bill. It's the second major repair in two years and I suspect more to come. I don't want to send this machine to landfill, so what are my options?
GE should stand by their products, recognize a lemon, and either repair or replace it for free. A washing machine should certainly last longer than 2 years. The repairman even told me to put all small items like socks in delicate bags to keep them from getting caught in the gasket. This is completely unreasonable expectation. I purchased a GE Stationary Washer (top load) Product #WSLS1500JWW in June of 2010. I made a first service call in August because the machine would not fill with water and was giving me an FF code. The technician came and showed me these tiny filters that were located where the water fills into the machine. The filters were the size of a pencil eraser and were getting clogged with sand which was coming through my water.
Since the technician showed me what to do, I figured I would clean it myself to avoid making a service call. Well, I am now cleaning out the filter every other wash load. I find this odd since I have a full water filtration on my water well system. Personally, I think the filters are useless and I will be removing them before I damage the fittings that I have to keep taking apart. I would not suggest this $800.00 24-inch machine to anyone. I was stuck with this system due to the size of where the last machine was already hooked up. Going to the laundry mat is less stressful than dealing with this mess.
NEVER again will I purchase a GE product. They do not stand behind their products. Also, I have problems with an over-the-range microwave oven (a broken door handle after 3 years, possibly due to the cheap plastic that they used for it). The vent on top of the microwave oven falls off every month or so for NO apparent reason. I replaced it 6 times during the 3 years that I owned it and I finally decided to just let it go without a vent cover. It looks like hell, but I figured that there was no other way around it.
Do yourself a favor and avoid GE products at this time. Maybe down the road, they will start to make a product using materials that will stand up to some wear and tear.

I wanted to give this machine a fair chance before writing a review or complaint (model # GTWS3000M1WS). I've done laundry for well over 42 years and have always owned a GE brand machine. Recently, my old machine developed a transmission leak. Had I known then what I know now, I would have had the old machine repaired regardless of the cost. I'm sure it would have been far less than the $450 I just spent on this new one. The first machine I received not only didn't wash, it didn't spin either. It just filled with water then dumped it out, mostly on the floor. Lowes gladly replaced it. The second machine works, but does not get the clothes clean. I emailed the GE consumer relations department to make a complaint. I explained to them that a washer is purchased with the sole purpose of getting your clothes clean. This was their response.
Your washer model, GTWS3000M1WS, has what GE calls the water saver rinse, a timer, and a dual-action agitator with a fabric softener dispenser. Here is an explanation of what happens in these cycles: The washer fills normally for wash, but defaults to water saver rinse if the fabric softener setting is not selected. At the end of wash, the washer pumps out, but does not spin, retaining water in the clothes. Rinse fills with approximately eleven (11) gallons of water, agitates for approximately ten (10) seconds, followed by approximately a three (3) minute soak. At the end of rinse and soak, the washer completes a 2nd pump out and then a final spin. There is no end of cycle signal.
If fabric softener is selected, the washer will pump out and complete a high speed spin to dispense the fabric softener. Next, the washer will add water to the selected load size for a deep fill rinse. The load size selected will determine when the approximate ten (10) second agitate will occur. If small load size is selected, agitate may occur at the end of rinse fill. If super load size is selected, agitate may occur during rinse fill. After agitating for approximately ten (10) seconds, the washer will soak for approximately three (3) minutes, followed by a pump out and a final spin. There is no end of cycle signal.
It does seem that if you use the fabric softener choice on the settings selector, you are getting two spin cycles (one of which is a high-speed spin) and a deep fill rinse. Yes, this will use slightly more water than the standard cycle. But it still uses less water overall than the older washers.
I would also like to give you some suggestions that you may find helpful when using your new washer. Please keep in mind that since these are different machines from the past machines, some adjustments may be needed. This is the same as in any aspect of life where technology has made changes, which I'm sure you can understand. If you think about how we cook our food (gas oven to microwave oven to convection oven), it has changed. And some adjustments have to be made in order to use this new technology, so it is with doing laundry.
We now have high-efficiency washers and detergents. With this technology, much less detergent is needed because less water is used. A helpful test to determine if you are using too much detergent is to place small item. An example is a wash cloth from a load that has been washed but not yet dried in a bowl of hot water. If a white film develops on the top of the water in bowl, too much detergent is being used. Also oversudsing can occur, especially in houses with a water softener, if too much detergent is being used. This oversudsing can cause an overflow of suds and water, resulting in what appears to be the tub leaking.
I found their response a bit condescending. They acted like I came out of the stone age and didn't understand the latest technology. I wrote back and asked how did they expect a tub full of water to remove soap with a 10-second burst of agitation. The process of agitating the clothes is what removes the soap lodged in the cloth. Soaking it for 3 minutes isn't going to remove much of anything. My whites are all dingy looking. If I can't see a difference there, it certainly isn't getting the moderately dirty clothes clean. The truly dirty clothes washed on the super load didn't come clean at all. The ground in dirt in the knees of my grandson's pants didn't come out even after retreating.

GE Washer - top load, Hydro Wave, transmission failure: I had problems with the washer from the beginning. It ate clothes and often failed to rinse out the detergent even using the 2nd rinse option (I was never able to use any type of powder). After three years it stopped agitating. Mid-way through the fill cycle it begins to spin. My husband looked it up on the Internet and it is due to a defect in the transmission; it will short out if the lid is ever opened during the spin cycle. Apparently, GE has fixed the problem in subsequent models, but no recall has been issued. (Say it isn't so! )
We also read where one customer went back to Sam's Club with the same complaint. They looked the purchase up in their system and even though it was a year out of warranty Sam's gave them a replacement washer, no questions asked. Wow! So we went back to Lowe's where we purchased it and they apparently don't have a very up-to-date computer system as purchases are not retained after 6 months. We could probably dig up the receipt (misplaced it when we sent in the energy rebate) but based on Lowe's fat-chance attitude, it will be a waste of time (We even went armed with print-outs of this being a GE-known problem, along with the story from the happy Sam's customer. And they didn't care when we pointed out that we have purchased all of our appliances from them in the last several years, two of which were still in their system).

Clothes have come out dirtier than when going in due to the fact that there is no center post (a new innovation) and clothes don't wash properly if they are not lined around the tub.
Oversized loads cannot be achieved due to the fact that they do not clean properly, even though this tub is larger than my old machine. Clothes come out of the washer with lint all over them, forcing me to use the dryer to try and remove the lint. So much for putting my clothes on the line to air dry. Going green now goes out the window.

All of my knit tops have little holes in the front of them. I separated my clothes to be sure nothing was catching on the knit tops, but still, brand new tops have holes just the same as the others. We received a recall on the machine and I decided to check on line about it and came across a complaint which was the same problem I am having. Now, I know that it's something within the washer and not something that I am doing wrong. Unfortunately, based on her complaint, it doesn't sound like GE is taking responsibility for this problem.

We purchased this washer in 2007 and from the start, it has given us problems. During the spin cycle, the machine violently shakes, creating a loud noise. We have done all of the things that GE requires to remedy the situation--put the machine on a pedestal, off a pedestal, on rubber reinforcement blocks, off rubber reinforcement blocks, verified shipping rod removed, and small-medium-large loads of normal laundry--but they all produced the same result. I am not financially in a position to replace this machine at this time so I have to live with it. I cannot believe that GE would put their name on a machine that seems to have a design flaw. I read many other similar complaints online, and even see that people have posted a demonstration of this madness on YouTube.

We purchased a frontload washer and dryer, and have had consistent problems with both. The bearing had to be replaced in the dryer after three years (and shredding many clothes) and the washer has never worked properly. It's large capacity, heavy-duty, but will only handle small loads. It takes forever to wash a single load because it stops mid-cycle and has to be restarted. It sometimes doesn't spin, and we frequently have to drain it manually.
We live in a rural area and have to take it to the appliance repair shop ourselves, and at this point we are so frustrated that it isn't worth it. On a previous visit, they were unable to pinpoint the problem. We also bought a GE dishwasher, and are disappointed with its performance as well. We are definitely doing our homework now as we plan our next purchase, but we won't even consider GE.

Has there been a recall on GE washers? The reason I am asking is because my washer is 5 years old and predicated on your (Consumer Affairs') info that it should last about ten years. Well, the Agitator came off? And even though my husband slipped it back on, it does not agitate. What now?
Well, we contacted the store owner where we made purchase and got an answer, "Not that we're aware of." No recalls. But we can call GE service.. Well it's like this, I had a Hotpoint in 1981 when I bought my first house. It had bad transmission in about 5 years. Get it fixed. Two years later, same thing. Seems to me that something is intrinsically wrong with the design in order for that to happen. Or, the attitude that if you don't pay top dollar in the short run, you will in the long run. Although my sister-in-law just bought a new washer, top of the line and she's not real thrilled either! I actually loved the performance of this washer, the most of any I have owned.

I called last week on Wednesday to complain that my GE Washer **** had a bad pump. I am a licensed electrician and a maintenance technician for a 330,000 square feet facility. I took the lines apart and made sure the unit was not clogged and that it had control voltage. The service department stated that they would have a 3rd party company Central Plains Appliance out for a service call on Friday from 8 am to 12 pm. I stayed home until 1 pm with a call to Central Plains and only got a voicemail.
I left to go shopping awaiting a call. I came home at 4:15 pm with no call from Central Plain Appliances. I called Central Plains and only got a call person saying that she did not know where the technician was and there was no manager/owner to help me. I called back to the GE Service Center stating that they are sorry and would reschedule the no show company. I escalated it to a supervisor and asked for a more reliable company. I was scheduled out to the following Tuesday afternoon, 12 pm to 5 pm wait time. The technician called and said he was on his way. When the technician that I thought was with A&E Appliance showed up, it was Central Plains Appliance. I called the GE Service Department again and stated that the wrong company came out and wanted to talk to the supervisor that I had talked with last week and gave them his name and employee number. I was told that they would send him an email. About 30 minutes later, A& E Service Department called and said that the technician will be out around 5 pm.
I called back GE and asked what was going on? They said that A&E was the correct company and to turn away Central Plains Appliance. A&E Technician called and showed up shortly there after. He had to get approval due to Central Plains’ showing up. The technician did not have a pump with him and I would have to wait for the part and spent another half day off next week if the part shows up! This is the second time within 2 years. I have been dumped for a no show call from the technician.

Bought a GE front Loader washing machine. Doesn't fill with enough water to properly clean clothes. Doesn't save energy as wash cycles are over an hour long. Can't tell from one wash to another if spin cycle will work and it smells musty, my clothes smell musty, even my laundry room smells musty. Yes, the repairman and GE swear it is working okay.
I bought a product to replace a washer/dryer that were still working to save energy and water costs. That didn't happen.

GE should be fined so badly for it and should replace every single one of their washing machines for something that actually cleans clothes without destroying them. My husband and I have been trying to figure out whether the washer or dryer is ripping the clothes and staining them, not to mention not even cleaning them. Well, the problem is with both GE products, the washer and dryer.
The washer is putting black grease marks on the clothes and not even getting them completely wet during the wash. It's absolutely disgusting. They should not even be allowed to sell such an item. Yes, they will come hopefully and under warranty fix the grease problem. However, there is nothing they can do about the clothes not getting clean. The whole "high efficiency" idea of putting hardly any water in the machine and just banking on the idea that when it agitates it splashes water onto the clothes on top is absolutely infuriating to me.
That is not what I call a clothes washer. Back to the rips, they are being caused by the cheap plastic right on the inside of the dryer. It is not manufactured with a smooth surface and clothes are getting stuck on it and getting ripped. I know that the dryer is not under warranty although it is only a couple years old.It used to be when you made an appliance purchase you knew you were good for at least a decade. What has happened? It's higher costs and terrible quality! Needless to say, I will never purchase another GE appliance. My husband and I looked at the GE clothes dryers the other day while at Home Depot and could not believe they are still making the dryers the same way, with the cheap plastic and nothing smooth inside. Therefore, I can't even begin to think of how many people must be affected with ripped, damaged and stained clothes. I can't help but think that maybe there should be some type of class action lawsuit against GE for making such shoddy, cheap appliances.

Back in 9/22/08, we purchased a GE front loader washer and dryer with the pedestals which of course were extra. I called the place of purchase and they were wonderful. My trouble started when I called GE appliance for help. The model we purchased is WCVH6800JWW washer. I was not impressed with the washer or dryer but they were new and I needed them. While using the basked clean cycle, I went to check on the time it was taking that is when we had a basement full of water. Things that were stored in the basement were wet and destroyed.
We could hear the water coming from the bottom of the washer in the back. I called PSEG because I have a contract with them for several of my appliances. They came out and looked at it and said that a bolt from the motor mount came loose and caused the outer tubs to shift and now we have a crack in the tub. The water was just running out of the washer. PSEG stated that they would not cover the part or labor and advised me to contact GE that the washer was not that old and that this should not have happened. This is where I was very frustrated. I first called the 800 answer center and spoke to Andrea. I was told that I could pay for a GE service rep to come out and tell me what was wrong to the cost of $89.95 without tax, mind you. She told me that if it was considered, a manufacturer defect by the GE service rep that they would pay for parts and labor. If it was not considered a defect by the service rep then they would pay for the parts, I just had to pay for the labor.
I explained that the washer just turned two years old and the motor mount bolt came loose. She told me that it was not considered a manufacture defect according to GE. To me, it is a manufacturer problem. How was it something that I caused? She said they only give a one year service agreement with the purchase and the year was up. I agreed to have the GE service rep come out and I paid for him to tell me the same thing that PSEG told me, however the GE service man did not say anything about the motor mount bolt coming loose. Funny isn't it? I received a print out for the cost of the "replace outer tub" for $174.99 times 2 for a total of $349.98, which with tax comes to $374.48 total.
This washer is just a little over two years old. How am I responsible for a bolt coming loose from the motor in a covered area of the motor and on a pedestal? So I called again to the same 800 number and spoke to Joyce who also would not listen to the fact that the GE service man did not say anything about the bolt being replaced. She stated that he would fix that if it was broken. I told her that he didn't say anything so I am not going to assume that he is going to fix it and what happens if the tub cracks again? Apparently, the motor and tub are not stable. She said she would have the GE service man call me and explain why the slip that he printed out stated $174.99 twice on the receipt. I am very unhappy with the service. The GE service person came with a computer and only took off the back of the washer. The tech from PSEG took the back, top of the machine off and had already told me what was wrong.
I paid this GE service guy for nothing including that he never even mentioned the bolt on the motor coming loose! I will never purchase another GE appliance. They do not stand behind what they manufacture or sell and at a hefty price might I add for the front loaders. I should have stayed with Maytag instead of GE.
I also have a GE profile dishwasher that is good for nothing and a GE profile ref that is good for nothing. Any chance I get, I am going to let people know how horrible GE appliances are! I work for a very large company and have contact with many people and I will not be afraid to tell them what kind of service and runaround and how the company does not stand behind what they make for more than one year.
I am in the process of looking for a up right freezer and I can tell you even if GE was giving one away for free I would rather pay for any brand but GE. I hope people do check with Consumer Affairs before they buy. I learned a bitter and costly lesson. Bottom line, do not buy GE products!

It would not stop filling on the first load tried. I called service. After two weeks, someone showed up and took it apart, breaking off tabs and denting and scratching it by using a large screwdriver. He could not get it to stop filling. He said this being a new model he was not sure. He came back two days later and said I needed a part ordered. I waited two weeks until the part came in. After installing it, it did the same thing over fill.
I went back to the store and said I paid for a washing machine. They gave me a replacement machine. After hooking it up, it did the same thing. Took that one back. There were five other returned machines sitting there with the same problem. I said I want a different brand. So they gave me a GE. This one worked but after a year, it started to clunk loud. They said looks like the main shaft/ shifter is broke. I mean it is just my wife and I and it gets used 3 times a month. It is now out of warranty and I look forward to a $300 to $400 repair bill. We have a two-year-old GE front loading washing machine. I feel that we spent a little more on this appliance than I wanted but was certain I would get what I paid for--a quality washing machine that would last and clean my family's clothing very well.
Instead I have a sub-par machine that consistently "chews up" our clothing. We have now had several items of clothing completely ruined because, it seems, the material somehow gets caught on something inside the machine and causes the garment to literally shred to pieces. In addition, the machine doesn't wash very well, is extremely noisy (it sounds as if our house would lift off the ground if possible), and the cycles seem to take forever. The door doesn't stay clean for long and needs to be constantly scrubbed or else it gets a disgusting build-up caked around the rim. Often when I wash towels, although it claims to be a high-capacity washer, it can't handle the weight of the items and the load comes out completely soaked so I have to re-run the spin cycle, pray that nothing gets shredded in the process, and hope for it to drain a little better... and sometimes have to repeat this process more than once.
This is the worst washing machine I have ever owned!

The gasket on the inside of the washer door holds water underneath it. It would not spin dry the load enough to put in dryer. Have to reset to drain and spin to get clothes as dry as possible. Repair/Service was called and could not find the problem, was told that the load was improper, by repair and GE, and that machine needed to be full. It does not matter what size load is in machine, it does not remedy the problem. After the warranty had ceased GE did not want to deal with the problem, kept telling me the load was improper.
Called GE today, number above, and they wanted to give me a discount on another GE washer, don't think so! Said they could not replace washer because warranty had ceased. I do not want another one of their washers after reading all of the complaints associated with them. 1. The extra use of electricity (having to reset to another spin cycle after each load), they are supposed to be energy efficient. 2. The physical strain associated with having to move the machine back in place after jumping all over the floor. 3. So far, the tile underneath the machine has not cracked but with the way this thing bounces all over, afraid it is just a matter of time.

Purchased a stackable GE washer and dryer in May 2010. This unit replaced a GE stackable that we had for 17 years and had no problems with. The new washer had a permanent press cycle which I normally used with my earlier washer. However, on this new machine it would drain after the wash cycle and then begin to fill up again before advancing to the rinse cycle. Drain again and then advance to the rinse cycle shown on the knob. Sometimes, the first rinse fill-up was complete; sometimes, it is only partially filled.
I called GE customer service to see if this cycle had a double rinse since no where in the owner's manual did it say that it did. According to the first, he had “no idea" if it did or didn't. This was after about 20 minutes with him on the phone and him implying that I didn't know what I was talking about. Since we are on a well/septic system, I am very conscious about water usage and did not want a second rinse.
I called GE again the next day to get a second person's opinion and this rep immediately said that the permanent press cycle or any cycle on this model did not have a second rinse cycle. She scheduled a service call. A repair person came and guaranteed that he fixed the problem, which was that the drain hose was not properly inserted causing the partial/second fills. After he left, I ran a load of clothes and the same problem occurred. A call to GE resulted in another service call a week later. Same service person. This time he talked with a more experienced repair person and found the schematic papers hidden behind a panel on the door, which the average consumer would not know about or know how to read. This diagram did indicate that there was in fact two rinse cycles on this machine. Now, why did the owner's manual not indicate that and why did the dial on the machine not indicate that?
I am very unhappy with this product. It was expensive and is very noisy. GE customer service is inefficient, insufficiently trained, and at times rude. This is my last GE product. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with this one since I can't afford to replace a new washer and dryer.

We have cancelled the credit card payment and are now disputing the receipt the merchandise we ordered.
Note: We were forced to buy this machine, at a slightly discounted price, as a result of your policy. This new machine is replacing a washer used for only one year of service where we had continual problems. We had GE service on site three times during the warranty period, but never identified and thus acknowledged as a problem by the technicians. We can only surmise the strict directions the technicians are under to avoid finding the true cause of a problem that might require replacing a defective machine.
We had constant complaints by our tenants using the machine with washes; for example, that it would stop half way and not continue. The problems continued after following all the recommendations, such as, using the correct soap and balancing the wash with the correct load; but over a long period of time, these suggestions proved to be a decoy to the real problem. We are now no better off with the new machine, if not in a worse situation with a machine that doesn't work at all.
It's no longer just an issue to get a properly functioning GE product. My wife has literally spent hours on the phone with GE Cares that include long waits. She has a record of her recent calls including names and phone extensions. Many times we did not receive the return calls that were promised (including supervisors). Perhaps the best and perhaps only way to get your attention and the proper service is in small claims court. The Denver City court house is just down the street where it will be much easier to see you in court, where we can publicly disclose that your service is just as poor as your products. As landlords, we are in a distressed situation where we have compensated our tenants in the hundreds of dollars for their severe inconvenience over a long period of time. Actually, it will be much easier to file a claim and see you in court than be jerked around."

So we started searching and came to find out that a pair of pants caught fire in the washer. Yes, the washer melted them to the side. We freaked and called GE. They sent a repair man out to fix it. He cleaned it up and said it's my pants' material. I said, "What? You're joking, right?" So I called GE again and they argued with me saying it's my pants and it was bad material for the washer. Oh, well, we went on using it. Again, it happened. Again, we cleaned it ourselves. Well, now we find out there's a recall because people's houses have burned down due to the same issue. And all they can say is, "You should have bought an extended warranty." All buyers out there, beware: GE is a bad idea for a washer.

I hope you can help me. I am a very dissatisfied customer of General Electric. I purchased a washer Model no. WJRE5500GOWW Serial no. HM902319G, in September of 2009. I have called GE since November of 2009 because this washer continues to leave my laundry drenched in water.
.
During one of these visits, an electrician advised me to wash less than 10 towels at a time; the machine is a "king capacity" model. I have a family of 5 and purchased this model in order to accommodate the size of my family. At the end of the cycle, the clothes are also left tangled and stuck in the mechanics of the washer. Several times, I have torn expensive sheets and clothing in order to release them from the washer.
I have owned several washing machines over the last 30 years; I have never seen anything like this machine. It is very frustrating because I have contacted the company over 20 times and continue to be given the run round. I have a case number with GE and I also sent a registered letter to the Consumers Relation Department at GE and never received a response. Thank you in advance.

This is a GE defect and should be replaced at no charge from GE.

I have a 2000 washing machine that has sounded like a machine taking off like a plane (spinning loud) for about the last three years. Then it started to only agitate and not spin. I have had my own personal warranty and have called a technician out twice. This time in June, I was told that the machine needed a transmission part WH38X100002 for the Model WSSE4220 GE Prodigy. The cost is $60 for the visit and then $271.62 for labor and parts (covered under the Choice Warranty). I now was told to call GE, who could not come out for three weeks.
I called GE myself and found that the part was not covered under warranty, therefore, Choice Warranty agrees to pay a settlement cost of $222.64 (I lose my $60 already paid). I called GE back since their service visit is also $74.00 and asked how much they charge per hour for labor. They refused to give any kind of idea of cost. I am uncertain whether to go back to the Choice Warranty and ask them to complete my repair. What if GE diagnoses the problem at a more expensive cost? This is frustrating, especially since I have already paid a warranty fee for the entire year to have my house covered.

In April of 200, we bought GE Adora front loading washer and dryer for approximately $1,755.00. The washer Model # WHDVH626FWW has had several problems over the last 4 years requiring attention on my part. The drain pump failed within the first two months of service and had to be replaced. The gasket between the door and drum then separated and leaked water below the washer into the electrical about a year later. Recently, we noticed our clothing has not been smelling very clean therefore we purged the washer with vinegar and although this helped, the problem returned within a few months.
My son put laundry in recently resulting in the local Fire Company visiting my house because he thought the washer had caught fire. To top this off Medics had to check him out because the house was filled with smoke and my son had an asthma attack. We called GE and they offered to come out for an analysis of the problem for our cost of $85.00, in turn they would issue a coupon worth $80.00 only online. I decided to take a look at the problem myself and completely removed the drum from the washer, split and removed the inner drain basket finding the problem.
The drive shaft that attaches to the back of the inner drain basket had broken in 3 places. Further to this GE in their infinite wisdom had engineered the broken support from Cast Aluminum that will corrode and break when the back seal leaks detergent into this area of the drum. The inner basket, since it rotates had come in contact with the outer plastic front non rotating drum rubbing it's way to leakage. Cost to buy seal, bearings, inner basket with shaft and front drum? About $600.00 with shipping. Now the dryer Model# DHDVH526FOWW: so far I have had to replace the gas solenoid and the drum bearings twice since 2006.
What happened to expecting appliances to last 10 or 12 years? We have completely lost our faith in GE products and will not buy another GE product again.

This all started on June 5th and today is June 25th. I called for a service call on June 5th for a noise in front load washer during spin cycle. It was scheduled for 6/10. I took the morning off work on 6/10 only to be called to be bumped to 6/11. The repair main came on 6/11 only to be told he did not have the parts. He ordered the parts and they arrived on 6/13. I called the repair man as he said he might be able to get us in earlier, but we were scheduled for 6/16. I called the repair man and he was unable to come any sooner than the 6th. I took a day off work on 16th only to be called at 1230pm that the repair man could not come, and it was rescheduled for 6/18.
I took the day off work only to find out I need additional parts and a 2 man job. I ordered parts which arrived on 6/22 and the new repair date was 6/25. GE service called on 6/23 to verify that parts were received. On 6/24 CG service called to confirm the repair date of 6/25. I took a day off work on 6/25 and no one came. I called GE service to be told that it was a 2 man job and was scheduled incorrectly internally. I have now been on and off the phone with Consumer relations for 3 hours with no resolution other than we are scheduled for 6/30. They cannot do the job today because they have no repair man or any sooner, yet we were bumped 3 times.
I have now taken 4 days off work, and have to take another day off, plus my third trip to laundromat at $25 each time. So, I figure at this point they owe me 5 days’ pay to replace vacation days I have used and $75 in cost to do my laundry. That’s over $1000! So as of today, I have no working washer, and 3 boxes of parts are still sitting in my home.

I purchased a new home 2 years ago, with new GE appliances. The washer was just identified in a GE/CPSC recall as being a fire/shock hazard, which required remedy from a GE technician. I called the hotline and was directed to their website, to schedule a 4 hour time block for a technician to repair the machine. I chose to remain on the line despite indications that it might be a long wait to speak with someone. A front line employee promptly picked up my call and verified all my information then scheduled me for a technician visit for the upcoming Thursday.
It was only Friday, which according to their "recommendation", meant a week of no laundry for a family of four (GE recommends disconnecting the machine from a power supply). I asked to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold. The same front line guy came back and tried to explain that the time delay was to ensure that the technicians had the needed parts in their possession. Not good enough. I asked to speak with a supervisor again and was transferred to Shawn, who graciously patronized me with a date of the upcoming Tuesday. Wow, no laundry for five days instead of seven.
When I asked for someone today, Shawn rudely replied, "That's not gonna happen." and then tried to explain that she doesn't have the ability to open an opportunity for a technician to respond today. She must have forgotten that she just exercised her ability to move the schedule up two days. I mentioned that I read where the recall is in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and was the CPSC aware of the hardship that they are putting on the consumer. Shawn quickly mentioned that all aspects of the recall were in conjunction with the CPSC and have received full approval from the CPSC. I appealed to Shawn that I was home today, and would need to take Tuesday afternoon off work so that they can fix the faulty washing machine and that in the mean time, we will have to take our clothes to the coin-op laundry and her response was that there would be no reimbursement. I asked if she was in my shoes, how would she feel about GE's lack of responsibility and she responded by saying that she "would be perfectly fine with that". I think she is a liar with no moral responsibility, apparently, a good "company girl". There have been no consequences yet, as this has just begun to unfold. There will no doubt be damages in the future as I said, I have to take off work and cannot use the machine.

I had a GE washer that lasted for 5 years and then stopped spinning. GE said it wasn't worth repairing. So we bought a replacement in Nov 2009. 7 months later and under warranty, it crapped out with the same problem – not spinning. GE service says this is a "common problem" with these units and thus, it takes about 10 days for the parts to come in. (I guess they have so many units failing, it’s hard to keep parts in stock!) GE customer service gives you a different story each time you call in for status. One time, they will expedite overnight the parts to you. Next time, they've sent out the parts to the GE repair service. So who knows when it will be repaired! Recommendation is to steer clear of GE appliances. They know they do, but they keep selling it to the public using false advertisement.
My machine, which will not be a year old until September, is out again. I am waiting for the parts and for the serviceman to have time to fix it. GE servicemen are very busy people. I was not satisfied with their determination and called Appliance Smart back and asked to speak with their manager and continuously got into a runaround argument with him. He said there was nothing he could do. After getting nowhere and having a washing machine that randomly leaked, I gave up. Now, the entire wash load cycle leaks out every time and also leaks onto the electrical circuit board inside the machine. This machine had been nothing but trouble from the beginning and the least they could do is give me a new part for free of cost to resolve the issue like they should have initially. He orders 5 parts including; pressure switch, air chamber, power board, inverter. I don't know what the other part is. On 6/2, get a call from GE Factory Parts that one of the parts is on back order, due to arrive to GE 6/4 and they will fed ex out that day, due to arrive to my home by 6/8. A woman in the Factory Parts explained that GE does not reimburse for any laundry I have to do but maybe I should call customer service.
No part arrived. I call GE on 6/10 and talk to Mary in customer service x5254. We talked for nearly 40 minutes. I explain I'm now on week 3 with no washing machine. I gave her my model # and serial # of my machine. She gives apologies for GE, says her department is here to fight for consumers. Says she has created a case # for the problem case # **. Says she will call me back on Friday 6/11, with info on the delayed part. 6/11, no call, my family of 4 laundry is piling up from baseball games, etc.
Monday 6/14, I call Mary 6/14 8 am leave a message. She returns my call and leaves me a message on my mobile (I'm in a training class). She, amazingly, refers to my case # and tells me my machine is from 1997 and that "it seems to have really hung in there." She says that the best she can do is offer me a discount on a new machine and refers me to the GE website to look for a model. Huh? I call Mary back and her system has picked up an old GE washer model # in her system, not the new model # and serial # I gave her the week before. They have a new system and she is terribly sorry. I explained that I have already spent $60 in Laundromat plus another $108 to drop off laundry and have it done, so far $168 spent. Mary does get a $90 check sent out to me, sorry GE will allow $30 a week for laundry. So I'm out $78.
6/14, Mary tells me that the soonest my part can be shipped (from Asia) to GE is 6/24 (no guarantee, she says) and they will get to me as soon as they have it. I say this is all completely unacceptable and GE must fix the situation. To look at minimum 6 weeks no washing machine for a GE Profile machine is egregious and GE should be embarrassed at this service level. I request a new machine ASAP. She hangs up to check on it and calls me back that afternoon promising a new machine.
6/16, Mary calls back with bad news. GE doesn't have any of our Profile washers in stock and they won't be produced in Asia until earliest 7/15 with no guarantee. Delivery to me is then minimum 3 weeks from that. So we are looking at first week of August! 11 weeks with no washing machine! And this is GE's best washing machine? She tells me I can go to the GE site and pick another machine that may be in stock but won't match my machine. Can you believe this ? How I describe a family of 4 (husband is general contractor, 2 kids playing little league and softball this spring), without a washing machine for now 6 weeks?

I don't think it was. I have sent several emails to GE appliances and to the business group. They tell me that they cannot call me back because they cannot call customers from their location. This is lies. I think GE is having more problems with this unit than they want you to believe. They are making a bad product design and won't do anything until someone gets killed. In trying to exchange for an actual machine that washes and rinses the first time through (not even return for my $500 plus buckaroos) a new GE top-loading energy/water efficient washer due to having to wash and rinse loads twice in order to get them clean. Not an energy efficient model at all! I was told the machine performs as described. I was also told I had "buyer's remorse" as apparently expecting a machine newer than my 18-year old machine it was replacing to at least perform efficiently the first time a load is washed and rinsed, not needing a repeat performance of either cycle.
Lint is left on dark loads, which doesn't come off even in the dryer. This leads one to believe the lint is not rinsed off in the rinse load. A repairman stated I should "rinse twice", defeating the energy efficient quote. He also said my machine doesn't wash as well because it doesn't "beat up the clothes" like the old ones or agitator style. But if I'm washing each load twice--and rinsing them twice--they are getting double the action and not saving any energy or water, correct? I was told by GE consumer relations that the machine performs as stated, but it doesn't if one has to repeat wash/rinse. The point is GE isn't backing what it says it sold me: a washing machine that washes with energy and water savings if I have to rewash/re-rinse.
Financial damage: I paid for a globally known product (GE) that doesn't perform what was represented. It doesn't wash/rinse with efficiency. All I would like is a washing machine replacement that does what it says at a cost of about $500 for exchange or replacement. I am not asking for my money back, or a higher end machine. I simply want a washing machine from GE that is agitator style (as in my 18-year old machine I was replacing) as apparently the machine I bought has been misrepresented by GE as an efficient machine. It's not. I don't have "buyer's remorse" as the machine was supposed to have cleaned at least as well as my 18-year old Speed Queen.
I am a teacher. The first raise I have received in two plus years went toward this new machine, which doesn't wash as stated, either by GE or the sales rep who sold it to me. I want simply a replacement machine--unfortunately even if it's a GE--that is an agitator style as apparently there have been no improvements since that style was invented. Certainly not the GE EWA5600KWW washer that I enthusiastically purchased as a (poor, misinformed) replacement for my old machine. Help.

I purchased the GE washer model number p260, a top loading "Energy saving washer" that has a short agitator and is supposed to "tumble the clothes. I have experienced exactly the same problems as Karen of Cranston, RI March 20, 2010, reported on this site. Those are: 1. All of the water is not removed from the tub. 2. The water is not removed from the clothes. 3. The clothes do not come out clean.
Water stays in the tub, sometimes it is visible in the upper tub, and sometimes it is not, which is worse, because you do not see the problem. If you shake the tub a little you can hear it swishing around underneath. This dirty water is then added to the next batch of laundry. If no laundry is run for a while this water becomes moldy and smelly. This mold issue is big for me as I am very allergic to all molds. The second spin is required to aid in getting the water out of the clothes. It does not super spin, as it is advertised, and does not save energy because the clothes are still wetter than in a normal washer spin cycle for blankets or any heavy items like jeans the clothes are still dripping after both spin cycles.
When a full load is run (according to the instructions on the lid about how to fill the washer), the clothes do not get clean, some parts do not even get wet. The clothes come out with soap in them and streaks of lint stuck to them. The clothes are also twisted into knots. It is necessary to use a full load setting and wash about 1/2 load to use the washer at all. The capacity of the washer is about 1/2 of my old washer, and for it to work at all I can put in only about 1/4 the amount of clothes.

When I looked in the machine, it appears that something has broken and the tub is off center. Also, I noticed water was on the floor of my laundry room.
I removed the wet clothes with a bucket and placed in the bathtub. I pulled the machine out and mopped up all the water, which was two buckets. I then continued to remove the water from the inside of the machine. I took the wet clothes and the remaining loads that needed to be laundered and drove 20 miles to find a laundromat. I washed the clothes and then drove home. I think I have been sold a lemon!

Bought a new washing machine on 4/6/09. Inside of the 9 months, it needed a new motor and transmission. Service guy told me that my model breaks all the time and I should seriously consider the yearly $60 service contract going forward. So over the next 10 years (which should be the typical life of a good washer), I will spend more on service contracts than what I paid for the washer and endure countless service appointments like the one today, where the service guy left water on the floor, used a whole roll of paper towels, left two boxes of trash in my house and a muddy, dirty floor.
The consequence is that I will either need to spend $60/year going forward or endure countless $280 repair calls or have to buy a new washer in a few months to replace my washer that hasn't even celebrated it's first anniversary!

I hold a valid extended warranty on my G.E washer, but it seems after a long 8 months of weekly repair calls and continuous replacement parts, my machine still doesn't work! I've had repairman service, my washer over and over and replace parts even twice, but still cannot get my machine to function properly. I wish I had never purchased this warranty because all it has caused me is lose of time and wages but no working machine as of 8 months later. G.E will never get another hard earned dollar from me, my family, friends and I will make sure I stress to anyone they are not worth it.
My washer, no matter what cycle I use on it, will not complete its drain and spin cycle due to an error reading "laundry out of balance trying to rebalance" but it just keeps recycling (which means it fills with water and generates the cycle to begin all over again). In conclusion, the machine can have a few articles of clothing in it or a regular wash amount and it still reads the unbalanced error, which at the end causes the machine to power down after not being able to complete its cycle. I have been using public services to wash my laundry, lost days out of work waiting for service and thats goes with serviceman that never shown up for service calls.

I purchased the GE Profile dryer model # DPSB620EC4WW on 3/17/2006, so the dryer is just 4 years old. At the end of February, I called for service because the dryer isn't heating. This dryer needs a new control board which I have been told is over $618.00 more than the price of the dryer originally. I am outraged that products that are supposedly built for heavy duty and long term use are being so shoddily built and prohibitively expensive to repair. Obviously, I am going to buy a new dryer-one without any electronics and definitely not a GE product.

Do not buy these! I purchased the washer (WPDH8800) and dryer (DPVH880) as well as the Smart Dispense pedestals (Model SPBD880). I have been extremely dissatisfied. After a few weeks of washing, our clothes did not smell clean, so I called GE. They sent someone out and he said that the person who installed it (Sears GE delivery) set it up wrong. (He did not connect the hoses correctly, so no soap was getting to the clothes). He fixed that and several weeks later, we still had bad smelling clothes. They just were not fresh or soft.
So back out another GE guy came, and he said it has do to with the drain hose not properly installed and that too much water was being drained out! After several loads, there was still no improvement! I have been told by a GE service man that this is just the way these machines are, due to the fact that they use so little water, they do not get the clothes thoroughly cleaned! Now, I am having problems with the dryer. It is supposed to receive its information from the washer through the USB hook up. It does, but after it has been on for about 2 minutes, it shuts off, leaving me with wet clothes. GE service man said it's the Sensor Dry Level and it will cost $200 parts and labor to fix.
I have to run each cycle on a timed cycle now. Another problem is that many times the washer runs through a cycle and levels me with sopping wet clothes, I have to re-run it on a drain and spin cycle a few times to get all the water out of it. After all the money I spent on these new GE innovations, they are not working correctly, not cleaning efficiently and their GE Service men do not know how to properly hook them up or fix them right the first time. I'm done with any GE Product. I will never buy GE again!

I was in the market for a new dryer to replace my 12 1/2 year old Kenmore. After consulting Consumer Reports, and doing a lot of research, I went with GE Profile because overall these particular models got good ratings. Also, I have Profile appliances in my kitchen and have been very happy thus far with their performance. I decided to purchase the matching washer since there was $150 in rebates being offered, and it was only a matter of time before the washer went too.
I, at first, was going to purchase the washer that was not Energy Star rated, but was the exact same washer in every other way. However, I decided to go with the GE WPRE6150HWT and paid about $80 more for the Energy Star rating, thinking that I would be saving electricity and water. What a joke! The first day I had it, I realized that it didn't hold nearly as many clothes as my Kenmore, and the water level, even on "super load" didn't fill up enough to even cover the clothes. Consulting the manual, I loaded the clothes exactly as the manual said I should and the clothes didn't even get wet at the top! I thought there was something wrong with it, so I called the place where I purchased it and they set up an appointment for a GE repair person to come look at it
The repair person did, and he determined that the fill switch was faulty. He also believed that there wasn't enough water going in for a full load. We both consulted the owner's manual, which specifically states that the water level should be above the clothes, and to load the clothes to the top holes in the basket. The water, however, was maxing out way below that, leaving 4 rows of holes showing from the top. He ordered a new switch and a week later he replaced it. Same thing happened. He measured it and there was 13 1/2" of water in the basket at "super". He said that the specs call for 14" of water. He said that he too agreed that it didn't appear to have enough water.
He called GE and spoke to someone else who said that this is the way it's supposed to be. Now, supposedly, I have no other recourse, even though my manual is contradictory to what is happening. I still believe that the washer is faulty. If it isn't, and this is what they tout as "High Efficiency," it's a pure scam. Now, because this new washer doesn't hold nearly the amount of clothes as my Kenmore, and doesn't fill up all the way, I just have to do extra loads of laundry. As a result, I am using more electricity and at least the same amount of water if not more in the long run. What a joke this has turned out to be.
Since this washing machine was delivered on 1-3-09, and I wrote the first review about the washer not filling completely, the washer hasn't drained completely on several occasions. As many others have written, I too am experiencing soap and water remaining in the bottom of the tub at the end of the cycle. This has definitely gotten worse over the past several months that I have owned the washer. I spend so much time running up and down stairs to reset and wait for extra spin and drain cycles and extra rinse cycles. Doing laundry should not be this much of a hands-on activity!
On average, I need to reset the washer at least two times using the spin and drain cycle or quick rinse cycle (depending on how much soap is left); This is in addition to the extended spin cycle which I am constantly forced to leave on. What prompted me to write this second review is that the problems have continued and GE refuses to accept any responsibility for the problems. I have just come from my basement to take my one blanket from the washer to put it into the dryer. It is still dripping wet and covered in soap, even though I used half the amount of soap as recommended and used the extended spin cycle (which, again, I am forced to leave on all the time).
I have called the appliance store that I purchased the washer and dryer from, and although they have tried to be somewhat helpful, I have been told that I am basically left to fight with GE because they came out and serviced it the first time, and now they can't get involved. I have had GE at my home 3 times and am waiting for them to come for a 4th. This means that I will have missed work 4 times for a washing machine that is 2 months old! The GE repairman has flat out refused to take the machine back and said to me "there is no such thing as a lemon!".
Now, the latest scam by GE is to replace the pump, but not the one that pumps out the water, the main pump, whatever that is, and the electronic circuit board to see if this solves the problem. The parts sit in my living room as I write this, waiting to be installed, having been shipped directly to my home after being ordered by the repairman last week. I find this idea of replacing brand new parts to be totally ridiculous, since GE is aware that many people are having the same trouble with this washer. However, I have been told that this is the only recourse that I have. The last time the repairman came, I did a load of washing just prior to his arrival, which consisted of one regular size blanket and two bath towels-that's it.
I actually showed him the inch and a half of water and the remaining soap in the tub. He tried to tell me I was using the wrong soap-until I showed him the Tide HE (specifically that one that doesn't say "for front loaders") and showed him that I used 1/4 of the recommended amount. I blew that excuse out of the water (no pun intended). He then reset the washer to the 6-minute spin and drain cycle. When it finished and there was less water in the bottom of the tub (although it wasn't completely dry), he replied, "It's working fine now." I told him that I did not think that it should take 3 spin cycles for most, but not all, of the water and soap to drain. He then stated, "Well, what can I do? I can't fix something that's working fine."
I told him that it wasn't working fine and he told me that was just my opinion. Then he told me that I really shouldn't be washing blankets and comforters saying, "Washing machines really don't like those things!”, I told him that my old washing machine handled these just fine, and as a matter of fact, handled much more in one load than this washer does. He then had the audacity to tell me that it appears that the washer just isn't suiting my needs! I told him that if washing blankets, comforters, bath towels, work pants and shirts and socks and underwear is what he considers suiting my needs, I guess it isn't and all the more reason for GE to take it back.
I told him that something is definitely not right when 100% cotton sport socks remain soaking wet when washed only with other socks and underwear. He just shrugged his shoulders and said, "They tell me there's nothing wrong with the machine, but I agree that it should be filling more. They keep changing the rules and the specs on these things and I just have to go by what they tell me." I just stood there flabbergasted at what I was hearing! I then asked him for the phone number so that I could speak to whoever "they" are. He refused to give me any telephone numbers, saying, "I will call them when we are ready to cross that bridge." I told him I was ready to cross it now, and he said, "No, we have to replace all the parts first."
Then I asked him to give me a receipt for his visit and he refused. When I told him that I wanted a receipt to prove he had been here, since he told me that GE wouldn't even consider taking the washer back until at least 4-5 visits and this was visit no. 3, he stated ,"Oh, this visit doesn't count because I didn't do anything. I only ordered parts." I told him that this was just unbelievable. He then told me, "Listen, I can order the parts and replace them or I can leave your house right now and not do anything else. But if I don't replace the parts, that's it! You own it the way it is."
I am so angry about the time, energy and money that I have wasted since this washer was delivered on January 3rd. I have missed 3 days of work (soon to be 4) and have been held hostage by this company and their (lack of) customer service so far. So many people are having the same problems, and obviously GE knows that this is a design flaw and they just don't care. Maybe it's time for a class action lawsuit? I have essentially thrown away $526.96 plus 7% tax. (You can do the math because I have to go downstairs and see if I have to do another spin and drain cycle, be right back...)
Okay, I'm back. It didn't spin out enough yet, still too much water to be able to put it in the dryer (good thing I got the stainless steel drum in the dryer!). By the way, don't bother buying the companion dryer either, my work uniforms come out all wrinkled even though I use the "easy care" setting on medium heat. (My old dryer did them perfect-no wrinkles at all. I wish now I had invested the money to get the old one repaired). I'm not sure if that's a result of the crappy washing machine or if it's the dryer itself. I have a kitchen full of GE Profile appliances, but I can guarantee I will never purchase anything from this company again!
Since these 2 reviews were written, the repairman even said that the machine was faulty. He contacted customer service and gave his blessing on the theory that the machine could not be fixed. After 5 calls to GE customer service, Mrs. R. offered me a replacement washer. I told her I wanted a full refund. She refused and offered a new washer, same model. I told her no because it was obvious by all of the consumer complaints that the line was faulty. She told me I could choose another model of equal or lesser value with no refund for a lesser value. I did research online and found that most GE washers were experiencing the same issues.
I insisted on getting my money back. She said "no" and then offered the WPRE8150KWT (more expensive), I checked out reviews on them and found they too were having the same problems. I said "no" and again insisted on getting my money back. She said she wasn't authorized to do that, and I asked her to put me in touch with someone who is. She then put me through to her supervisor Alex P. He was rude, condescending and at one point told me that I was getting overly excited about the situation. He was very sexist and treated me as if I was just an overly dramatic housewife. I was so frustrated and insulted at how he was treating me that I put my husband on the telephone, saying to him that he obviously didn't believe "the little woman" and maybe he would believe my husband since he is male.
My husband then told Alex the exact same information and advised him that I had missed several days of work trying to get this brand new machine fixed. He refused to refund the money and made the same offer to my husband. My husband made it clear to him that we do not want another GE washer, only to have the same problems with the replacement. As of this date, I still have the washer, nothing has been done by GE or Wickford Appliance, where I purchased it, except for GE to send advertisements in the mail trying to get us to purchase an extended warranty on the machine (yeah, right...still trying to soak us for more money). I have a washing machine that does not spin, drain or clean- in addition, it leaks all over the basement floor.
I have still photos with audio narration of the water all over the basement floor, the clothes still in the washer covered with soap and still soaking wet after 3 spin cycles. I have missed many days of work waiting for GE repair to show up and fix the problem, but it never got done. I am simply amazed at the amount of complaints about this machine and others like it on Epinions, Yahoo Shopping, etc. and no one has taken up a class action lawsuit on this yet. It would be a hands-down winner for the attorney who chooses to take it on and there would be many grateful consumers if someone chose to challenge GE. I am simply waiting for the piece of junk to break again, now that it is out of warranty, and I will be forced to write off almost $600 of my hard earned money to go buy a new washer, because I refuse to sink another penny into this machine.
The consequences are that I am extremely frustrated that GE is getting away with taking such advantage of consumers with absolutely no consequences, I am out at least 5 days of vacation at work, I will also be out almost $600 when I have to go buy a new machine in the near future. Hopefully, I won't have damage to my belongings in the basement when it leaks all over the floor the next time. Please, I am asking that someone hold this company responsible for all of the frustration and anger that they have caused so many people. This is just not right what they are doing. GE should not be allowed to sell this washing machine any longer, knowing how many problems people are having with it. I would like to be included in the litigation if an attorney decides to take on this case. Thank you for taking the time to read my complaint.

After 25 years of good service from my previous GE washing machine, I purchased another one (model #WWSE5240G2WW), thinking I would be as satisfied. Wrong!
The motor and mode shifter needed replacement within the first nine months. Fortunately, they were covered under warranty but I had to fight to get an extended warranty from GE longer than the original one year. The information that came with the machine is inadequate and doesn't answer questions re: operation or specific "how to". I already know how to sort my clothes.
Trying to speak to a person at the GE consumer line is impossible unless you want to set up a repair appointment. I'm sure they make many of those and those are automated. I found out today, another service call for banging noises when in Pause, that the motor that was installed in 9/09 will compensate for opening the lid when in operation. That was a big problem with this washer but they are very reluctant to give you this info. The repairman wouldn't answer me when I asked how many service calls/new motors under warranty he has replaced. Their standard reply is that they only repair those that breakdown and don't have a figure.
The literature says to "open the lid or press pause" to pause the cycle. The repairman says that should never be done because it damages the motor. The new manuals have been rewritten and those instructions taken out.
They have an inferior product and are not informing customers of the difficulties that have occurred. Never again will I buy a GE product and I will not buy an extended warranty. I'd rather spend my money on a different brand washer when this one fails than to repair this lemon. I expect that to be quite soon after reading all the complaints. I just hope it's something other than a flooded laundry room. If you haven't purchased one of these inferior pieces of junk yet, don't even think about it. After washing a large load of laundry, it quit spinning. I contacted GE for a service call, which they were going to charge $79.95, plus parts and labor. I opted for local, highly reputable repair service instead at $48.95, which would be applied to the labor. The tech immediately said, "Oh, GE," when he walked in. After testing it, he said the motor was burnt out and would need to be replaced, which would cost at $300 for the part plus labor. He said there had been lots of problems with these motors and that a replacement motor would be the same one.
He recommended I junk the machine and buy a new washing machine from a different brand. I called GE's Consumer Relations Department to complain and tell them what the tech had said. They said they would have to send one of their techs out (again, at $79.95), plus the tech would charge whatever labor cost he wanted to. GE would waive the cost of the part only. She couldn't give me any idea what the labor cost would be, saying it was completely up to the tech, which is unbelievable. I was out $53.72 (including tax) for the original diagnosis, plus I will now be spending $600-$800 for another new washing machine to replace this one that is less than 2 1/2 years old.

This time it was the motor (replaced 2 months ago). I was told they were on back order and wouldn't be available until February. That's 5 weeks without a washer. I hate my GE Adora Front Load Washer model #WHDVH66OHWW. Same as other complaints I've been reading. It does not spin towels dry. I literally have to wring the towels out before putting in dryer. So much for conserving energy. It takes twice as long to dry. I had a repairman out, he cleaned filter. It did the same thing 2 weeks later. I'm not a novice at this. I've had 2 other washing machines which lasted 8-10 years each! Clothes smell musty. I've run bleach through it. I always dry any excess water around the rubber seal after every load and I keep the door ajar so it is never sealed tight when not in use. Of course, it's out of warranty. Very dissatisfied. I wrote GE and they sent me a $75.00 credit. Not much help there.

I bought a GE washing machine and dryer in April of 2008 (model number WLSR220J3WW serial number FR168028G). I had a one year warranty through Lowe's for both the washer and dryer. I lived alone for almost a year before my husband moved in. So, I was not using the washer more than 3 times a week. On December 25, 2009, I was doing laundry after getting back from Christmas parties and the washer would not stop filling. It overflowed and ruined my floor in my laundry room, not to mention soaked our brand new Christmas presents. I called on December 28, 2009 and the woman I talked to said I would have to pay someone 100 dollars to come out, not including for him to look at it, or put in the order for the part, or the part or to install the part.
My parents also had a GE washing machine. Just a month before mine messed up, theirs did the same exact thing. A guy came out to look at theirs and said that they needed this and that done and it would be over 500 dollars. They decided to get another washer instead. They got another GE washer for cheap from a neighbor or friend in the beginning of December and it has not worked right. It almost overflows and floods their house. Also, my aunt and uncle had a GE washer for 2-3 years. A few months before my parents and my washer flooded our houses, theirs did. That's three people in my family that the same exact thing has happened to, twice with my parents.
In addition to my, my parent’s, and my aunt and uncle’s washers, I ran into someone a few weeks ago dragging his washer to the curb. I asked him what was wrong with it and he said that it won't stop filling and overflows. It ruined a table and carpet throughout most of his house. I asked what kind of washer it was and he responded GE. This totals 5 GE washers that have had the same problem in the last 3 months. There is something wrong with GE and they are not willing to help their customers. I will never own a GE washer or any other GE appliance again.

I had purchased a General Electric top-load washer (WHDSR316G1WW) in 11/08. It was noisy and in self-destruct mode from the start. Home Depot/GE gave me a replacement 2 months after the purchase date. Now, the replacement model is also going into self destruction.GE won't cover the replaced washer, because the original one was purchased one year from the date. The washer's parts are engineered to fail after one year.
This washer is advertised as the quiet model. It makes enough noise to run you out of the house, once it goes into self-destruct mode. Please save your money, and buy a different brand--something with a better warranty. This model is engineered to fail after the warranty period is over.

I bought a GE Washer from Lowe's November 2008 with a 4 years extended warranty. A quite washer with the HydroWave wash system. The washing machine started jerking really hard and making a thumping noise during the wash cycle. I made the first call to the number Lowe's gave me the first week of November 2009. They sent a repair tech to my house on November 12, 2009 using A & E Factory Services. Tech said that it needed a new shaft because the brake was not engaging. Scheduled repair day for November 25, 2009. Tech showed up, put in new shaft but said that the shaft had nothing to do with the problem, and said that it needed shocks. Ordered shock and rescheduled repair for December 9th. Same tech (this time) showed up on the 9th and installed the shocks.
Added clothes, washer still has the same problem. Told my husband that he bent a piece of metal out of the way so that it no longer thumped, but didn't know what else to do about the jerking. In the mean time, he has messed up the lid switch so he had to order that part. Said that I could continue to use the washer. I tried to do a load of laundry on December 11th. Washer would not spin after the wash cycle. Called A & E and told them that I was fed up with this and wanted a new washer.
Was told to call GE. I called GE and was told that the only time they'll issue a credit for a machine is if A&E states that its unrepairable. Was told to call A&E. I called A&E and they said that the tech and the engineering department would have to make that decision and that if they could still order parts then they would keep repairing it. Called GE again to complain, was told that it was an extended warranty problem and transferred me to the extended warranty department. I told them that the call was made under the manufactures warranty, was told that it would still be up to A&E.
Called A&E again was told that they would send a tech out on December 18th. A new tech showed up and said that the problem was with the shaft. I told him that they had already put one of those in it and it still jerked and thumped. He seen where the previous tech had bent the metal on it. Said that the only thing he could do was order another shaft but that he would also order a new motor as well. Scheduled my next service for December 29th. Another tech showed up and took the washer apart and started putting it back together with the new parts. When he attached the new motor, it found that it was "locked up". Said that he would place an emergency order for the part which should arrive Thursday, Dec. 31st and that when I received it I needed to call A&E so that I could get it fixed that week. Said that he would be working that Saturday and could probably come out and fix it. As of January 4th, 2010, I still hadn't received that new motor, so I called A&E, and was told that the part was in transit. Said that the earliest time for the tech to come back out was January 12th.

Front load washing machine. Model #WCVH6800JMR. Whenever I do a load of towels, the machine is out of balance. It shakes and makes the loudest noise. The machine never sits straight next to the dryer because of the shaking it does. I had one repairman tell me to fill it up with as many towels as would fit. The next repairman told me to not put more than 5 or 6. If I put more than 4 towels in, it gets out of balance. We are talking 4 out 5 loads. Just towels! Repairman told me I should not buy such nice towels. I get them at Costco for Gods sake. I am under the extended warranty now. As I sit here, I am waiting for the repairman. I always have to put the load through the extra spin cycle. The towels are still wet and so it takes 2 hours to dry them. I don't think that is very energy efficient.

I purchased a new front loader washer GE Adora WHDVH626fww. It does not currently have a warranty. I purchased the appliance along with the matching dryer 6/13/2006 at Home Depot. I have had problems with the washer having mold growing on the inside and outside of the rubber gasket that the door closes onto. I suppose I should have reported it then, but really thought I could take care of it.
This gasket keeps the water inside the washer. There is a small section in the middle of the manual that says to wipe the gasket after each use; otherwise, there is no warning about special care regarding this. I do far more than this. I wipe the gasket inside and out, and dump water out of the drawer and then wipe the inside of that cavity with a towel and then leave the door to the washer open for hours after doing several loads of laundry to help the interior dry out, which it never does. It has always smelled mildewy inside, except for when it was very new.
A few months after getting the washer, I was horrified to discover an actual mold colony (black and elevated) growing on the inside of the gasket. I cleaned it with bleach the best I could, but never could completely remove the stain. Since then I have been extremely diligent in wiping the gasket dry (although because of the design, this is quite difficult to do) and the other steps I mentioned. In addition I have run the washer with special tablets purchased at Lowe’s that remove the musty smell from washers like this. I do not know if they contain fungicide. I also have run bleach through the empty washer in an attempt to kill mold spores, but that didn't seem to work, at least on the gasket itself.
They had no explanation for why this is occurring, even after my ongoing attempts to reduce moisture. This is an appliance designed to be wet, so I do not understand why all this is necessary or why the company does not make a big point of this in their printed materials. I do believe this may be a known problem with this washer, from something one of the consumer relations reps said to me. Answer was to have a new gasket installed and I would still have to pay for the home service call and labor - they will not budge on this.
My worry, and I repeatedly stated this to the supervisor and to the previous rep, is that there are mold spores inside the washer, behind the perforated steel inner liner, which will not be removed by simply replacing the gasket.
I find their laissez-faire attitude about this type of problem extremely odd, warranty or no warranty, since mold is a health hazard and I have done so much to remove and prevent it. Although to be fair, they only know what I tell them, but still you would think they would do more if for no other reason to keep a customer with a house full of GE appliances and to prevent a potential lawsuit.

Now it has stopped working altogether. Our front left burner element on our electric cooktop has stopped working. Now our microwave has decided to stop heating. All I have now is a very expensive $600 hanging "clock." So much for a quality microwave. All of this stuff couldn't have happened at a worse time for us. GE now has re-manufactured this part due to the defect, but has failed to notify its customers or reimburse them for their trouble. Our situation has caused us time, money and pure frustration! Not only that, all the appliances in our kitchen are GE, except for our dishwasher.
There are thousands upon thousands of complaints about GE Appliances going bad after 2 years or less. A national class action suit was settled against them in 2006 for 304 defective models of GE Refrigerators! Now, a firm is doing research regarding their line of microwaves since there are many complaints about the microwaves causing major problems, even catching on fire. GE has turned a blind eye and is ignoring the very people who pay their mortgages! There are hundreds of people who would be willing to file a class action lawsuit against them.
Help! GE is totally unethical in its business practices. If you are reading this, please send your complaints to 60 Minutes, as I did. Get the media involved. What GE is doing is no less than criminal. When we are at Lowe’s or Home Depot looking at appliances to buy, there should be a warning sign that says, "Beware, this appliance that you will pay $450 for will break after 1-2 years." They came out and he was not able to hear the noise because the noise didn’t happen while he was here. I came home from work and used the dryer and heard the noise again. I'm like crap, why wasn’t the rep able to get the machine to make noise?
Okay a week later, Sunday 11/8, I can’t take the noise from the dryer and called. And on the darn service line they say common problems loud noises. I’m thinking to myself if it’s a friggin’ common problem, why didn’t the repair tech check the cause for the common noise problem? Well if that isn’t bad enough, the customer service won’t replace my machine. They want to send another tech to check the problem. I decided to call the store before the first 30 days go by and have the machine replaced. What did I get from John, the sales person, at the store about the return policy? I can’t return the product unless the repair tech hears the problem and put in a repair or replacement request. I'm like, are you serious? Economic damage is to be seen. I am on the hook for over a thousand dollars for this washer dryer; sounds like I am going to have a problem with the product and the sellers. We purchased it in 2007 as we wanted to upgrade to a front loader, as was told by our Home Depot representative that this was the latest and greatest. We had a lower brand top loader for years. So here it is 2 years later, you can't really do a load unless it is totally filled (I have to add towels so that I can fill up the washer to do a small load). When I add towels, half the time when the load is done, everything is so heavy from water that I have to do the rinse and spin cycle 1 or 2 times to try to get the water spun out. Why is that not just a spin cycle? Why should my water bill and electric bill be so much higher each month when this product is supposed to help to reduce your cost? Why do my clothes come out looking streaked from bleach when I don't even use bleach in the washer?
We are hoping for the best. We thought that the product would last 5-10 years and be great. But instead, we are wishing we kept our lower brand top loader. There really were no problems with it, we had purchased a new house and decided to upgrade our appliances with it. Wrong decision on our part! I would love to go back and buy a top loader, but who will buy this product off of us? No one if they take the time to read consumer comments. I think everyone who purchased these products should be reimbursed. Kind of like when a car has a recall, they fix it at their cost. Same goes with this product. There is also a moldy smell in the washer from time to time. We try to look under the rubber rim and clean it monthly, but it does not seem to help. Brand new two years ago and my clothes at first were treated to stripes of oil and grease (had to throw some really nice stuff out!) and now that that has ended (took 6 months, intermittent), the washer never delivers me any clean clothes. I wash loads twice. The dryer is useless since it takes 24 hours to dry one load. In the summer, that sometimes makes the clothes smell sour. The lint builds up around the seal in the dryer door and needs to be cleaned after each load. Crummy and double yucko. No more GE for me.

I bought a GE Adora washer/dryer in 2006. But due to renovation work, I did not start using them for another year, mid-2007. It started having problems within a few months - clothes not spun dry but heavy with water; timer off showing 1 minute to go for perhaps 30 minutes, I lost count; mold growing in basket and rubber lining as a result of the water not emptying; machine not starting though it lights up with "door locked." The rubber tire around the face of the drum, I can't understand the drawings of the manual online of parts so I don't see its actual name, this has a big tear in it. This is the reason why my floor keeps getting puddles.

We bought our GE washer 17 months ago. Yesterday, it stopped spinning on any cycle. Today, I thought I might look online for some ideas on what could be the problem, and maybe, I could fix or get it fixed. This site is the first I stumbled upon, and after reading about so many GE washer problems and responses the other consumers have had, I think to fix or have it fixed would be the beginning of lots of wasted time and money. I'll buy new, but not GE. Is the GE factory on Wall Street?

I bought a GE front loader washer and dryer from this place, also the extended warranty .The cabinet of the washer started falling apart. Rust was forming on the outside around the door. Detergent dispenser drawer was broken. The leftover bleach that didn't cycle completely from the previous load ruined some of the following load. There was a leaking crack in the control panel. The handle on the door had to be glued back on. The dryer catches a small object when it makes a revolution, getting hung between the cabinet and the drum and makes a thumping sound. It burnt places on my linens and some clothes that look like little loops or branded places on them.
Warranty only covered mechanical. Appliancesmart hung up the phone on me even though I sent them plenty of business before this. GE sent tech 3 times. He suggested full replacement on both. G.E gave me the runaround. The set is 2 years old and I have been trying to get something done for over a year now. Meanwhile the rust has spread more on the outside of the machine. I expected when I upgraded to these appliances to get at least 10 to 12 years out of them and now I am very frustrated. I always had good luck with GE and all my major appliances have their name on them, but I will never buy another GE product.

We purchased several GE appliances, including a washer, dryer, range, and a refrigerator from Lowe's. Almost immediately, we had to call service on our washer. The technician informed us that our extended service contract was through Lowe's and not GE. So we cancelled the Lowe's contract and bought a GE service contract for all the appliances at a cost of over $1000, because we wanted GE service rather than some local contractor. We have since had numerous service calls on all of the appliances. Don (It's not a good sign when you are on a first name basis with your GE service guy.) has been great, but getting him here was almost impossible. The last time we called for service on our refrigerator for not cooling properly, we were quite surprised when a local service company (A&E Appliance Repair) showed up, unannounced, to handle the call. He replaced a thermistor but broke a cover in the process. He said he would come back to replace it.
The cover arrived in the mail, then more than a week later, we arrived home from shopping to find an A&E truck sitting in front of the house waiting to come in and install the new cover. Now, we are having more trouble with the refrigerator. Typical of all the others, it doesn't cool properly, the ice/water dispenser is intermittent, and it is making a high-pitched whining noise from the fan. When I call GE, I am transferred to someone with Assurant Solutions in India which tells me I can only be serviced by A&E because they serviced the original problem. But I didn't want A&E to service it ever! That was the reason I paid $1000 for GE service.

I, like so many others, have had the worst experience ever with the GE Front Loader Washer. I replaced my previous set only because I wanted the newer, updated, water-saving front loading sets, but instead I've received frustration, stress, humiliation, larger water bills and larger electricity bills! The washer doesn't spin correctly, it doesn't drain correctly and sometimes it leaks! I have not been happy with my washer from day 1 and I have never been so dissatisfied with a product as I am now.
GE charges over $70 to "look" at it, and other service repairers won't and don't work or fix GE front loaders because of all of the problems! When the repairers complain of a product, you know there is a problem! It seems to me that the only benefit from this washer is to GE for the money of the purchase and again on the back-end of the amount of money that they make from servicing their horrible product. Financially, due to the non-spinning, and non-draining of my washer, I literally have to wash each small load at least 5 times just to be able to drain them enough to dry. Therefore, my water and electricity bill has grown tremendously.
I have purchased more Tide detergent in the last 8 months than I've had to in the last 3 years! And now, I am forced to drive to a nearby launder mat to wash my clothes in a public washer because it has stopped spinning altogether. Mentally, I am drained, defeated. I have been stressed, frustrated, and humiliated (I sold my former set to a friend for $100, it works great, while I've updated to a nightmare!). I will never make the mistake of purchasing another product from GE again.

I bought the GE Adora washer and dryer in the summer of 2007. The washer has been a complete disaster. About two months after owning it, it was making horrible sounds, wasn't spinning properly and kept stopping mid-cycle, shorting out. A repairman came and said it was a computer issue, so fixed something on the computer panel. It was still having the same issues after that and one day, we were sitting in the house and smelt "fire." The laundry room was completely filled with smoke. My husband and I frantically grabbed our baby from her crib and I went outside while he tried to quickly figure out the cause of the fire before calling the fire dept.
He found it was coming from the washer. We stopped the washer. I phoned for a repairman to come. He said, "What do you mean it started on fire," like he didn't believe me. He looked it over and said it looked "fine" and fixed the belt. It seemed to work okay after that. A couple of uses later, it was up to the same old thing. The repair person couldn't find anything wrong with it and I almost felt like they were trying to convince me it was my imagination.
Now, it's a month off warranty and it completely stopped working. I phoned a new appliance repair company to come look at it. He told me that the bearing was completely unusable and that it looked like it once burnt out. He asked if it ever smoked or seemed to start on fire to which I replied, "uh, yeah." He said it should have been replaced then and couldn't believe I got the use out of it I did after that. He said he could fix it for around $600.
Home Depot said they don't accept returns or liability and to deal with GE. GE said it's off warranty and not their problem. I challenged that it was their problem because it should have been repaired while under warranty. I'm not getting anywhere. This whole situation is frustrating. I now have an unusable washer and am not sure if I should continue to fight this, fix the darn thing or just go out and buy a new one. I haven't even used this one for 18 months, so it's cost me almost $100/month to use it if I scrap the washer.

Oh, how I wished that I had read this site before my purchase; that hindsight is always 20/20. As stated by so many consumers before me, GE appliances are useless. I purchased my machine brand-new, straight out of the box; and it broke down one week later. Yes, you read correctly, one week. It took about a week to hear from a service man and another two to three weeks to received the part. The machine worked for a little over one year and broke down again with the same problem. Imagine that, it worked longer enough until the manufacture warranty expired.
I'm told by Home Depot, which is where I purchase the machine, to call GE. GE told me to call Home Depot and see what they would do. Yes, you guess it, the blame game is being played. I asked that the machine be returned and another one be sent to me, but I was told that I had to have GE look at it first. You can usually take back any item within 30 days, so why could I not return this item? I spoke with Natasha, and she stated that they have to treat all of their customers fair. I nearly fell out of my chair. Did she say fair? I was not asking for anything extraordinary; I was simply asking that the machine I paid for work.
She proceeded to tell me that I should have purchased an extended warranty. I asked for her supervisor, and he told me that Natasha was correct. I guess it's the norm with the company to blame the customer for "shottie" appliances. Let's get this straight. Pay for a machine that's poorly made, and then let us squeeze you for more money for a warranty. As I'm discovering, I think that GE is fully aware of the poor craftsmanship of their products and eagerly pushes the purchase of warranties. This is the company policy as I perceive it: Sell a product that is guaranteed to break down shortly after purchase and request that the consumer buy a warranty. And if they do not, too bad, they are on their own.
With so many complaints, why is this company not investigated for better practices? GE will continue to operate in the manner it has if no officials step in. I've purchased two machines before the GE purchase, one lasted ten years and the other one lasted twelve years. Yet, GE wishes to push, saying "It's man-made, and things can break." Well, if you know that, require more from your engineers, not from the consumer.

The front load High Energy clothes washer I bought from County Appliance in Stamford, CT is the most poorly designed and malfunctioning washing machine I have ever owned. If you put too many towels in the washer (more than 2), it gets off balance and will not spin water out of the load. If you put in too few clothes, it also gets off balance and won't spin out the water. And, the machine makes a loud banging sound and moves all over the floor when this happens. I am constantly stopping loads and rearranging the clothing. It is the most poorly designed machine and customer service at GE refused to listen to me. The machine is 3 months old and I told them I wanted them to take it back. They refused. The machine has been serviced twice and had a broken water pipe at three weeks. I will never buy another appliance from GE nor will I ever shop at County Appliance again.

I purchased a front-loading washing machine in February 2008. Since I had this machine, I had to have it repaired four times. The first time it was the gasket, after that the timer/lock mechanism. I have been without a machine for one month today, and I was told that it will be another two weeks until the machine will be repaired. I have a family of five. I spend about forty dollars a week at the Laundromat. In addition to that, I work up to sixty hours a week and spend twelve hours in school. I have three boys to raise. I cannot afford the time or expense. I also cannot afford to go out and buy another machine.

My wife and I purchased a GE front load washer from Home Depot. The washer, when running in wash, rinse or spin cycles, vibrates like hell. We complained to the GE service department. They sent out a service tech. We told this service person about all the problems we had with this washer. I asked where this washer was made and he said it was made in China. I told the service tech that had I known that this machine was made in China, I never would have bought this machine. I never had good luck buying anything built in China. They use inferior materials and poor design. The people who run GE should hang their heads in shame selling this piece of junk to the American public.
My wife and I have had the GE service people out four times. They changed the shock absorber to cut down all the vibration and it did no good. Now we have other problems - stains on white clothes and holes in the clothes.

I purchased a GE washing machine (model no. WPRB8050D1WW) in January '06. The machine started leaking in December '08. The transmission and motor had to be replaced; it seems to be a problem with this machine. It took until March '09 to get the parts replaced. In the meantime, I'm spending a lot at laundromat. Warranty covered the parts but not labor. In June 2009, machine started leaking again. This time, GE agreed to cover labor as well as parts. Again, with a new motor and transmission, I washed one load and machine was leaking again. I contacted a repairman and he informed me that the outer tub would also have to be replaced. GE then wanted to give me a $70 discount on a $430 machine. I said, "No, I could beat that deal at the local Lowe's and I wanted the machine repaired."
So GE sent parts but after consulting with repair shop, they said machine was unrepairable due to bent shroud. This was the first time the shroud had been mentioned. I checked the shroud and it is not bent but GE said they would have to take word of repair shop. Now GE refuses to repair a 3-year old machine and wants me to shell out another $360 for another piece of junk. When I mentioned to the customer service manager that she should check the number of complaints concerning GE products on the internet, she informed me that she had a life and did not have the time. I realized GE is more than appliances, but no wonder their stock nosedived long before the recent recession if this is the attitude of management. Never again will I buy a GE product and thankfully, I got rid of GE stock several years ago.

For the second time, since purchasing and installing in 5/30/08, the spin cycle is not working on my GE washer. The first time to repair was without a charge. This time (same problem), I'm told $145 plus parts, plus whatever else needed since I didn't purchase the extended warranty that was offered. For the same repair to be needed within 1.5 years, two months "out of warranty" is abysmal! I feel that the repairs should be done without charge since it's the same parts giving the problem.

The cycles last forever and they just suck! I paid over $1,400, including a useless warranty. It is only 1 and 1/2 yrs old and now I’m stuck with these because I can't afford new ones.

I bought a new GE front loader washer and matching dryer in May 2009. I have had 3 prior service calls and am waiting for a repair person as I am writing this. I have the same problem: washer will not spin or drain. I have gotten the run around from the service department, even though I purchased a 5-year extended warranty. I contacted consumer relations and all they want to talk about is setting up a service appointment and they do not talk about why the same problem keeps happening. I spent 07.03.09 waiting all afternoon waiting for the repair person from an authorized GE repair and he didn't show or call. I finally called Home Depot’s extended warranty service and he finally called (at 5:35) to say he was running late. I run a taxi service and I don't have time to sit and wait for service that isn't going to show or even have the courtesy to call and tell me what is going on.
I have always bought and been very satisfied with GE washers before. I bought my first one in 1965 and used it through raising 3 children. I sold it to a friend in 1990 and it is still working. So, of course, when I bought a new one, I went back to GE. Wrong move. Apparently, GE is like other manufacturing companies in the US who have built obsolescence into their product. And their service is a joke. Consumer relations and service are a joke at GE. I am sure I will have to call them again for repair as they have built a defective product and won't admit it. I have spent approximately $300 at laundromats since the purchase of this machine plus time that I didn't have. Also, the soap dispenser leaks soap when you are loading soap into it. So I wonder how much soap is actually going into the wash cycle. My sister is in the market for a new washer and I have told her not to buy GE and I will advise anyone else who is buying a new washer the same.

I bought a new high efficiency Front Load Profile GE Washer and Electric Dryer. These things are the same kind of energy efficient as water saver toilets. They use 50% less water but you have to cycle those 4 times to get them to work. Do the math. The cycle times on these things are measured in hours instead of minutes. I immediately started getting mildew smelling clothes.
I called for service and they cleaned the trap that is hidden in the front under a service panel that is difficult to get to. Problem persisted. Service called. Same result. Take a shower and dry off and you smell like old sneakers! Calling GE was useless, as the bozos they send out don't know enough to install them, much less service them. They are parts changers. This machine seems to know the value and color of clothes as anytime you put something expensive and white in it, you can be sure it will come out with brown grease stains on it. If you put in some expensive color item it will decide that now would be a good time to dump some little cache of bleach that it has been hiding from 5 loads ago. Many of our clothes develop small holes for no apparent reason. It only happens to your favorites.
The dryer just stopped turning altogether and the motor would trip out on thermal overload. I used to have an appliance repair business so even though it was in warranty, I was fed up with their so called service and tore into it myself. Everything spun freely. I tested all parts and all function tested fine. Put it back together and it works fine. I hate intermittent problems. Mine is about two years old and I have not encountered the transmission or gasket problem yet. I think it's time to donate these things to charity or sell them cheap with a disclaimer and abandon GE. By the way, LG is no better on their appliances or service.

End of February 2007/early March 2007, I purchased a GE top load washing machine model # WDSR2080G2WW to replace our 30-year old Hotpoint. Our Hotpoint was used daily and never had a service call until it died after 30 years of use. End of February/early March 08, GE washer transmission, motor and brakes were replaced; parts and labor under warranty. In April '09, transmission was replaced again, but this time we had to pay $125 for labor. On July 1, 09, transmission has died. The family-owned business we purchased the washer from directed us to call 1-800-GE-Cares and report it as a lemon. GE employee was sympathetic but said we needed to call the Customer Care Phone Center at 1-800-626-2001. Their hours are 8am-5pm EST M-F and 9am-4pm EST Saturday.
This is the third transmission failure in a washing machine we've had barely 2.5 years. Our research reveals that transmission failures were not uncommon with GE washers in the late '90's and into the early 2000's, but our experience indicates that chronic transmission problems still exist. Faulty parts? Faulty design? Regardless, this is unacceptable. After the first few months of ownership, the washer developed a constant squeaking on spin cycle that could be heard several rooms away and a strong mechanical burning smell. A few months after installing the 2nd transmission, the noise and smell returned. Noise and smell were constant after 3rd transmission was installed and it burned out completely after only 2-3 months. Knob to set water level also broke off after two years and was replaced the same time the 2nd transmission was replaced.
